The Bun Bo Hue here is really good and Bun Thit Nuong looks very delicious. Mi Quang is not that good, the taste is not strong enough but its soup is super delicious. What I don't like about this restaurant is that it's kinda small and a bit smelly. But the food is really good so I don't really mind!

Presentation was good . I ordered a number 29 (supposedly just everything but without pig feet) And guess what was in my bowl ?? Gah ... Found a long strand hair in my water too! The noodles were undercooked as well . I mean they were so hard I just ate the bean sprouts and garnishes that came on the side instead . Not sure if I'll be back .

This is the only place I go to when I'm craving bun bo hue. I like that the soup comes out piping hot. The soup is not that flavorful anymore. Their chili oil is super spicy so beware. The prices have gone up a bit over the years.

My friend and I ordered the banh beo and bun bo hue. The flour for the banh beo was very thick. Didn't taste anything but flour. As for the bun bo hue, the meat was chewy and the broth was not flavorful. The only good/fresh thing was the pork cake.

They have the real deal: real authentic Hue food. And I mean it hard core Hue food, which I love. My favorite place to come when I am in town now. Lunch time can be a little busy, you might have to share a table.

Definitely not the number 1 place for bun bo hue. Not sure if it was a bad day but the noodles were kind of dry, cut into small segments (supposed to be long), and varied in size! The soup was sub par. My cafe sua da tasted like it was watered down. Well guess what, came up to pay and saw the worker pour hot water into ALREADY MADE COFFEE. I could have forgiven them and tried another day, but seeing them jip me with the coffee sealed the deal. Won't be coming back :(

The good: Bun bo hue broth is not funky..it actually tastes natural and not a hint of MSG. The slices of beef tastes and smells fresh. The bad: Veggie presentation needs improvement. Portion size for the large bowl looks like a small to medium. Noodles were broken; pieces were too short. The ugly: Parking is not ample and it's situated near a popular Pho restaurant so go figure. Restaurant is small as well, and they need to stock their restroom.

Mediocre and typical of Vietnamese restaurant place . The bun Bo hue we had today was just mediocre , nothing special to say. The soup we got was not cook hot enough to be hot soup. However , the meat was tender and well cook .

I wanted Bun Bo Hue so I went to a restaurant that specializes in that. This is probably the best Bun Bo broth I've taste. It's similar to VN on how authentic it taste. The only thing that made me not enjoy the meal was the the noodles. The noodles are cut up in small pieces, which means I can't put in the amount I want in my mouth when I'm slurping up the noodles. They lose 2 stars because of that.

Came here for a quick lunch and it was ok at best. The bun bo hue broth was flavorful but it was way too salty. The noodles were hard and broken into short pieces which made eating with chopsticks a little difficult. The only thing that I loved was the chili sate on the table - beware as it is EXTREMELY hot!

  • Julie P.

Bun bo hue wasnt all that. The noddles was kinda hard, my fiancè hadda add some fish sauce, hot sauce and salt to it. And it still didnt taste right. Bummer cuhz I was looking forward to it. Banh beo was alright. I hesitate first but order it anyways. It was blehh. Too oily. We also ask for a small bowl, it was dirty. Yea, not coming back.

Best bun bo hue in OC. Especially, it's not spicy and kids can eat. Affordable price and fast service.

My friend took me here since she wanted to eat bun bo hue. Please be careful when parking your car here, if I were you I would park several blocks away and walk instead of parking my car in this lot. This lady was backing up her car, and backed her car right into the dumpster. Her rear bumper was falling off the car when she left the parking lot. I have a feeling that those types of events happen often in this area....asian food galore also means asian drivers galore.. We both ordered regular size bun bo hue, and I got the salted lemon soda. I never tried a salted lemon soda before, and was glad I tried it. It was really salty and had a slight lemon taste, it was made with the fermented dried lemons that asian grandmas love to chew on. I feel that it complimented the bun bo hue pretty well. Bun bo hue came with the requisite pork blood ( 2 large chunks), part of a pig foot, etc. came out in less than 5 min. The bun bo hue was tasty, and I especially loved the spicy sauce it came with. I added so much spicy sauce that my lips became swollen... I know.. I have a problem... This was one of the few viet places that served banana flower with veggie plate!!! Less than $10 a person with tip!

Noodles were thick and hard, broth was blan meat was extra rubbery. Other than that they are #1.

The great Bun Bo Hue debate rages on. Who makes the best Bun Bo Hue??? Ask any Vietnamese kid and they'll say "my mom who grew up in Hue." That's my answer and I'm sticking to it. Well, my Hue mom didn't want to make Bun Bo Hue so we headed here instead of the usual Pho Cong Ly/Saigon Deli. This was my first time and I was really underwhelmed with the signature dish. The broth was great - even my Vietnamese-food-hating fiance enjoyed the broth. However, everything else goes down hill from there. My noodles were tiny broken messes when the dish came out and they continued to break as I was eating the soup. The meat was small, clumpy and not tender. The pork hock tiny and not fatty enough. The pork blood and cha hue (pork meat loaf) flavorless. I'm giving a 1 star consideration for the banh beo chen which was my favorite dish as a child. The actual rice cake/banh was good. The nuoc mam cham lacked flavor and there was no deep fried pork rind. However, the dishes were piping hot and straight out of the steamer and the consistency/texture of the banh was good so fine. I've had better Bun Bo Hue at pho restaurants in Riverside (where I suspect they probably used a "Bun Bo Hue" paste or bullion cube - sacrilige? maybe - but it was still better than Bun Bo Hue So 1). Bun Bo Hue So 1 - well, Bun Bo Hue Sao 1 (one star). With so many options in OC, I'd rather go somewhere else.

Yes! Found another place that can make pretty good Bun Bo Hue (my all time favorite dish). TID BITS: 1) Small parking lot 2) Decent size restaurant. Don't expect anything fancy. Just be happy you have tables, chairs, utensils and clean floors and good food. SERVICE: The bare essentials! They take your order, bring you your food, and you pay at the front. MSG rating: 1/5 ***THE FOOD GIST**** BUN BO HUE (beef noodle soup): Their specialty; hence the name. Duh! Broth had the lemongrass essence and just the right spices. I loved the texture of the noodles; had a slightly larger diameter size (like the old school way). Authentic and RIGHT ON. I sincerely enjoyed it. And that means a lot for me to say this b/c my mom makes the BEST bun bo hue. **CAUTION w/ the garlic/spicy/sate sauce. It's SPICIER than usual. Do not add a big glop like you usually would. My mouth was on FIRE. BANH BEO CHEN (individual plated steamed rice cake): another mastered dish. The rice cakes were steamed to just the right texture. Not over or under cooked. Had a slight chewiness to it. YUM. Garnished w/ chopped shrimp, green onions and pork rinds. Fish sauce on the side; not too sweet or sour. Great complement to dish. They are SOLID!

As Bun Bo Hue being their main dish, I felt it could have been a bit better. The broth is very flavorful and delicious, really spicy too. I also like the meat, its pretty chewy and tender. And they actually give nice portions. But I really dislike the noodles, its always cut into small ass pieces and just not soft, honestly I feel as if I could cook the noodles better than them!

    (3)
  • Kim C.

this place has a great broth, but that's about the only thing that was good...the noodles were the cheap hard kind that broke really easily and weren't chewy at all..they were kinda grainy...the meat was kinda hard and they didn't give much...but then again it was only $6. being in the Viet area, i feel like i could've gotten a better meal for that amount of money. the banh beo was fine though... i think i prefer ngu binh to this place

    (3)
  • Tina N.

Delicious bun bo hue. The broth is on point and the meat is tender. I like squeezing some lime in it for some acidity. This balances out the flavors well. Service is hit or miss but that's with most asian restaurants around here anyways.

I've been on a binge to find different bun bo hue alternatives around Garden Grove and last week I ended up at Bun Bo Hue So 1. So I ordered the following: 1. Combo appetizer - Banh beo, nam, bot loc 2. Bun Bo Hue The combo was decent. You got a little bit of everything, so that's cool. The bun bo hue was just average. Not a whole lot of flavor, it wasn't hot at all and it just did not pack the punch. The portion was huge and more than enough. I'd describe their bun bo hue to essentially just bun bo and missing the personality of the city of Hue.

  • Lisa N.

I have been going here for years (over 10 years) and the food is always consistently delicious. Bun Bo Hue is so flavorful. Their dessert is also to die for. Try the Che Hot Sen (lotus seed), you will be addicted.

I found this wonder hair in my bowl of bun bo hue..no service, no greeting.. And why is bun bo hue made and serviced by Hispanics server? Where is the homemade traditional Vietnamese cook? I don't taste any Vietnamese flavor at all.

  • marie c.

This place has the BEST bun bo hue ever!!! I love the fact they have the option of beef only which I absolutely love !!! Their broth is good cz they start u off with neutral n u cn add the spices urself because I cnt take so spicy n at some places they either make it too spicy or not enough ....we live in Baldwin park n we literally drive all the way to oc js for bun bo hue we would drive the distance for this place n plus it's so cheap !! It's the perfect hole in the wall spot but with grade A quality bun bo hue !! I wish I cn rate this place much higher n plus the staff is so nice n tentative n is not shy bout giving extra lime like some places

  • Jones T.

The Bun Bo Hue here isn't very good. Tried the #11 and #14. Service was fine, the food wasn't. The only thing that I liked was the longan drink.

  • Timothy T.

Bun Bo Hue so 1 has the best Bun Bo, made with fresh ingredients. We have been to many Bun Bo in Bolsa, but this one is still the best. The restaurant is not fancy, but service is fast and friendly. We come for the bun bo and my quang. My kids love the banh beo and banh nam.

  • Christine N.

Okay, first off... this place is located in such a cramped tiny parking lot... not to mention after trying frantically to find parking... you have to sit super close to strangers inside their restaurant... ahhhh, I'm so not used to that! However, I find that if I don't have to drive and that my family goes at an off-peak time... It's really roomy with 1 to 2 other families in there... some room to breathe and enjoy their delicious bowl of Bun Bo Hue. yelp.com/biz_photos/bun-… . Best? Not so sure, but it's definitely up high on the list aside from the crazy tiny parking lot.

    (3)
  • Michelle R.

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall place, but they have great slurpy noodles. When you walk in, you'll get a big whiff of fishsauce or whatever that smell is. Don't be alarmed. Sit down, order, eat. Service can be slow when busy, but its good asian comfort food

  • Tram N.

I go here every time I'm craving a bowl of bun bo hue. Their broth is very flavorful. Very homemade style. I also like that they use fresh bun (noodles) instead of the dry noodles some other places use. Btw, they close on Thursdays (usually when I'm craving bun bo) :)

  • Dat N.

my all time favorite place for bun bo hue, Great price, good portions, and great service. They lost a star because the amount of veggies they give you and 2 out 10 times the broth isn't up to par but still better then other places.

my wife loves this place prices are low, they give good portions a good place for quick and easy Vietnamese food

  • Jonathan T.

Best bun bo hue in town, very original to mom cooking, good tasty soup, well cook noodle and meat, and fresh vegetable and mint leaves serve with each order and the chili on the table is fantastically hot and tasty. The only way to eat bun bo hue, sweating while u eat.

  • Mai N.

Their bun bo hue is pretty good. Not #1 like their sign says but decent for about 6 bucks a bowl. Pros: Strong broth, could've been a bit spicier, with soft noodles Cons: Not enough meat and the meat that they did give was pretty chewy, service is quite slow (we had to wait a good while for our food to come out even though it's already made in the back), they gave a dinky sized plate of veggies. Decent food for decent service at a pretty cheap price. I'd come back

Ordered to go. Noodles have a weird texture as others have mentioned. Skimpy on the beef and veggies.

Pros: I've been going to this place just to eat Bun bo Hue for the last 10 years now with my family and it has one of the best Bun bo Hue in Santa Ana. The soup is delicious and so is the seasoning for the meat because it was dead on my favorite. Cons: Okay here is what I noticed going here for the last 10 years; Parking is way too small and crowded so you either have to park far away (or at the Pho place right next) and walk over. The restaurant is also small, so if this place get crowded which it do at times, expect a lot of cramming. Service was bad. There are times when the service was alright (taking orders, bring out foods) most of the times however the guy did not even want to take our orders and made us waited for over half an hour! When he finally takes our order and ask what do we want for drink, if we say we do not want any or just water, he would glare at us and snatch the menu back from our hands. This has happen numerous times during my visited here and I have to said that is one of the worst customer services I have seen. Overall: I gave 2 stars even though the foods is delicious is because the customer services is pretty bad. Maybe this just happen because they were having a bad day? This place do get crowded sometimes. Regardless I only come here because their Bun Bo Hue is really good. So try it for yourself. But be warned!

My recent visit to this place got me a surprise in my bowl of Bun Bo Hue. I've always come here for their "famous" Bun Bo Hue. But this time their quality control has slipped. I found a long strand of hair at least 5 inches long tightly embedded in one of the pork slices. Ouch and Ewwww! At least the hair wasn't short, thick and curly. Well what was I to do? Complain? That'll get me nowhere in places like this. So I showed my party members the evidence and manned up and ate the rest of the soup. So sad! I don't think I'll be back here as long as I still have the memory of that long strand of hair in my mind...

I love bun bo hue the most and this place has authentic one. Cant wait to have another bowl tomorrow. You should come and try on the bun bo here.

  • Anya L.

Their bad service is nothing compared to their bad food. This place is by far the worst Resturant I've ever been to. The banh beo was too thick and the bun bo hue broth was horrible and too sweet with no depth. Someone should teach the cook how to make proper vietnamese food. I'm ashamed for this Resturant being a Vietnam born chef myself. I will never return. Stay away! You have been warned people.

  • Joseph H.

From what i heard from friend and wife, the bun bo hue is good. I just tried their Mi Quang and it was horrible. It tasted really tomatoey like bun rieu! I don't think i would come again unless my friend dragged me... I have my main choices for Bun Bo hue and the day was too hot for Bun Bo Hue. I'll give their bun bo hue a shot one of these days but not anytime soon...

  • Lynn N.

My favorite place of all time for bun bo hue, not much on meat and veggie compared to Ngu Binh but the broth, noodle, meat, satay...just perfectly cooked like how I wanted, if you're a bun bo hue lover you should try this place out. The service is above average for most Vietnamese places but they still charging you for ice water/ice tea and cash only, other than that they still my number 1 place for bun bo hue and bun hen. I recommend their satay to anyone loves spicy like myself, only 5 bucks for a jar of home make satay....yum

I have eaten at this restaurant for over 10 years now and I love the taste of their BUN BO HUE. I ate at other restaurant too but so far when it comes to bun bo hue this is my favorite restaurant. :D

My coworker brought me an order of banh beo to-go for lunch. The wafting smell of fried shallots, green onions, and freshly ground shrimp made my mouth water. Nom, nom, nom...I was surprised the box made it back in one piece since I might have dug into it well before. It was probably a good thing that I didn't go pick it up then. Normally I would order the banh beo chen, which comes in the saucers that they steam the cakes in, but seeing as they probably would want the saucers back, I just ordered the regular banh beo. But there it was, in all its delicious glory. Thin circles of rice cakes smothered with shrimp, onions, and shallots. All it needed was some fish sauce with fresh spicy chilis to go with it. Luckily, they pack that in the box as well. Word to the wise, be careful while transporting it since fish sauce will stick up your car if you spill it on the upholstery. Yum! It was worth the wait. Did I mention that my coworker drove all the way to Westminster from Irvine and back? Um, yeah I'm a lucky girl.

  • Karen D.

Decent and cheap Bun Bo Hue but I don't think they're "Number 1" Noodles taste hard and they're short which makes it hard to pick up with chopsticks. BEWARE, it is extremely hot in this restaurant and the bun bo hue broth takes up the entire place so your clothes will stink.

  • Natalie T.

The Bun Bo Hue is REALLY GOOD Here! I also ordered the mi quang (egg noodle) so moist and Delicious! The Broth was soo Tasty! Perfectly flavored and Spiced! I really Love the fact that they gave us alot of fresh Veggies. It was such a great value (around$6) and quality! This restaurant is so Clean and well-maintained, the service is Great. We asked for extra mint and lemon, and the waitress a Hispanic woman was so nice and brought it immediately, she brought us extra plates and napkins aswell, so kind ...always a pleasure eating here :))

I used to come here often back in high school (that makes me sound so old...but i'm really not) =) Back in those days this was the best Bun Bo Hue place that I know of and remainded to stay that way for a long long time until I discovered Ngu Binh on Westminster and Magnolia. I think over the years this place has lost its flavor...sad but true. The broth is plain and boring and really does not truly have that "bun bo hue" flavor and smell that I love so much. Maybe i thought it was good before because i've havent had anything better. Then when something better did come along I realized that i deserved better bun bo hue so I had to say my goodbyes. I had good memories here, but i'm making better memories at Ngu Binh so c'ya Bun Bo hue so #1....i have another #1 in my heart and its not you. For Bun Bo Hue lovers out there....do yourself a favor and try Ngu Binh. If you think this place is good....then you don't really know what good bun bo hue is. I still think my sister makes the best Bun Bo Hue ever....maybe one day I will be lucky enough to learn how to make it...but for now i'll just eat it.

I live near by this place but never had a chance to try it out. The name was appealing to me because it's called Bun Bo Hue # 1, so therefore they should have THE best bun bo hue. Arriving at the restaurant, there weren't much people; a lot of take out through. Decor wasn't appealing either, seems pretty ghetto. I ordered the Banh Beo (one of my favorite dishes) and my dad ordered the Bun Bo Hue. My dish came out first and it looked whatever to me. First bite: "oh it's not warm." Second bite: "that's weird, this one is more warmer." I noticed that there were barely any ground shrimp in my dish, so that bummed me out a bit. I would say that Ngu Binh on Westminster and Magnolia is still my favorite. I finished my dish, and my dad's BBH still hasn't come out yet. Took them about another 10 minutes for it. The Bun Bo Hue: Noodles were a little hard, and broth didn't have much flavors to wow me. It's probably because I'm used to eating BBH spicy. It's decent for its price. I would give their bun bo hue "Chua So Mot."

  • Kitty K.

I am a big fan of bun bo hue and the name of this restaurant is what brought me in despite the reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately I have to agree that this is not the best I've had. The actual broth was not bad but it could have used a little more spice to it. The noodles were a bit choppy and I would have preferred it a little softer. The pork blood was too firm but the meat was pretty good and cooked nicely so that's what added the 3rd star to this review. I also tried the banh beo. Nothing special about this either--I've had better.

Rubbber band in my bun bo hue is not ok. Dont try to play it off like its common. U and your cook should of been more careful. Guess what, you know that health department guy that came out the other day? I told him to.

this place is pretty hard to locate. i found it while i was in the same plaza getting a massage and the aroma lured me in since i was hungry.. the place was really small and there were no seats left so they squished me in at a longer table, shared with other people.. i kinda dont lkike that. they would have separated it a bit -_-' anyways.. i was still very excited for the food due to the aroma. i ordered their house special, the bun bo hue. however when it came out i was disappointed... the noodles are a bit stiff, the broth was not nearly as flavorful as i thought it would be, and the quality of the meats, pork blood, and vegetables did not meet me standard.. .. i know it was only $6 and that's cheap IN GENERAL, but they're competing with other equally cheap places out in this area so i expect more from them to maintain their little shop. I guess it's decent and people who arent picky would enjoy it. but it just doesnt cut it for me. i will definitely not come back. but they still deserve a 3 star cause it was 'okay' and it's cheap, and the workers didnt really offend me (i was just annoyed that i had to say my order like THREE times cause they owner's daughter is too white washed.. once in viet, once in english, then i gave up and gave her the #)

It's ok..but the noodle was too hard they need to cook it a little bit more. The Soup base is decent.

I love going to this place for Hue food!! The goi cuon and combination is super yummy. Food taste very fresh. I kind a needs remodeling, kind a old inside but the food is delicious!! It's fairly cheap also like $6 an item.

I am not a Bun Bo person but sometimes I feel like eating it after I haven't ate it awhile. My cousin wanted to eat here so I came along for the ride. I been here many many times before but i don't really like the bun bo here. The only thing that I think is pretty tasty is the thin banana leaf w/shrimp inside. I can eat a lot of those things but I never can force myself to eat a full bowl of Bun Bo. The only place that I think Bun bo is good is Ngu Binh on Westminster/Magnolia.

Upon the suggestion of a Vietnamese friend, we came to try the bun bo hue here. Apparently this place has THE best Bun Bo Hue in town. We got there around noon and the place was already packed. We had to wait for a table -- about 5 minutes -- and hubby and I were the only non-Vietnamese in there. I saw some people eating Banh Beo Chen, although at the time I didn't know what it was called. I had eaten it before at Nem Nuong Ninh Hoa and didn't know other restaurants had it too. The owner (I'm presuming he's the owner) came to take our order. I said I wanted that pointing to the Banh Beo Chen. I asked him what it was called and he showed me on the menu. I pronounced it the way it is spelled which garnered a huge chuckle on his part. OK, I'm sure I butchered that completely. Then I ordered 2 small Bun Bo Hue and 2 lemon sodas. The Banh Beo Chen arrived. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as the one at Nem Nuong Ninh Hoa as there was too much of the steamed rice 'pudding' and not enough topping. The Bun Bo Hue arrived piping hot with plates of shredded lettuce and a combination of sliced lemongrass, bean sprouts and what I understood from the owner to be banana blossoms. By adding this concoction into the steaming broth let off this wonderful aroma of citrus wafting through the air. I didn't care for the pork knuckles or the blood custard floating in the soup. I should've told them beforehand, but forgot. It also comes with the Vietnamese version of spam and some gristle-ly beef which hubby found hard to swallow. However, if you like this sort of authentic types of noodles, then this is worth trying. Our meal came to $19 before tip.

The bun bo hue is really good here. They have a variety of different meats that you can order. The egg noodle (mi qang) is good too. Love that they give a lot of veggies, including bap chuoi. I don't know the English translation, but my parents say that it is a part of a banana that grows out before the banana is ripe. Something lime that. This place is one of the few that serve this veggie, and I love it. Plus, the bowl comes out piping hot! My sister and I usually share the combo plate. It has banh beo, banh nam, and banh bot loc. A favorite for my sister and I. They make pretty good dessert drinks that are served with crushed ice. Service is pretty good. The servers always bring items requested without being grumpy. Another big plus is that the place is clean; you can tell b/c the sauce bottles that are kept on the tables are never sticky or stained. The floors are well kept and not littered w/ crumbs, napkins, and miscellaneous items. My family loves this place and never hesitate to come back.

Bun Bo hue here is not #1, but the mi Quang is superb and the Banh beo is decent. Mi Quang 4 1/2 stars Bun Bo 3 stars Banh beo 3 stars Trust!!!!!

Ok, so this place is a dump. Apparently they have never remodeled since its beginnings many decades ago. But I gotta give credit where credit is due and this Bun Bo Hue is the bomb!! An ex gf of mine introduced me to this place and I was sold right away! This is a no frills or thrills joint. For 6 bucks you get the most tasty noodle soup with all the toppings. They got all the hardcore stuff too like the pig hooves and pork blood for you real gangsters out there. There's not much ambiance and the plaza its in can get tough on the parking but if you love Bun Bo Hue like me, then this must be added to your repertoire.

My favorite place for bun bo hue. So delicious. I have had bun bo hue at other locations and have been disappointed, I will only have it here now. Also try their version of che thai - it isn't sweet or super rich but i love the combination of black jelly, logan, and jackfruit. Very refreshing, I always make sure to buy an extra one to take home. Service is prompt and quick.

I work nearby and come here often for the last 10+ years. Bun bo hue here taste more authentic, consistently good. also like banh beo and spring rolls with lemon grass barbecue meat with fresh basils. often, one can spot vietnamese celebrities like Y Lan and other restaurant owners eating here. there is no shortage of bun bo hue in Little Saigon, but this place has been here for more than 20 year; and i have been a fan for more than 10 of those years. recommend you try! :))

Weak! Usually, when going to a Vietnamese restaurant named after a dish, it's an unwritten rule that the dish in their title is their specialty. Assuming this premise to be true, than Bun Bo Hue So 1 either needs to get a new Bun Bo Hue recipe or find a new specialty. Why? (my greivances) 1. Their noodles were wayyyyyyy overcooked and were in tiny segments, thus making chopsticks near useless. The noodles hardly had texture and were horrendously mushy. 2. Skimpy as hell on the (mediocre) meat. I have never seen such a small serving of pork feet in my entire life. Bun Bo Hue is a dish that showcases different cuts of pork and to skimp on the meat in this dish is a fatal error. 3. It wasn't spicy! Really?! Bun Bo Hue is supposed to threaten the very survival of your taste buds upon entering your mouth. It's supposed to bring you to the verge of tears. With that being said, the broth at Bun Bo Hue So 1 was closer to water than actual Bun Bo broth. I had to add liberal amounts of chilis to my Bun Bo Hue.... which unfortunately doesn't amp up the taste at all. This was one weak restaurant, with only one positive aspect - I didn't get MSG head ache afterwards!

What do you eat when you're tired of Pho?? Bun Bo hue why not! My pops been taking me to this place since i was a kid. My family is from the South of Vietnam, so that's the way they make it here. It's certainly not the best ever Bun Bo hue ( my mom's is pretty good), but it's still alot better than other places. There's a reason why this place has been in business for so long.

Not good. Tastes like they are definitely cheap in quality ingredients. Typical and not impressed. Who am I kidding though, this is a Viet place. As long as you don't get the runs right? I don't think they are good enough to open a number 2 store, but are good enough to make you do a number 2. I wouldn't go back.

You would think that a restaurant that would name itself after bun bo hue would have good bun bo hue. Sadly it doesn't even have edible bun bo hue. The broth was tasteless and there were hardly any meat or anything else in the broth. If your friend tries to take you here, RUN don't walk away.

Let's get something straight here. First off, you shouldn't come here to eat bun bo hue if your mom makes better bun bo hue. That's all I've been reading about this place from ignorant reviewers "OMG MY MOM MAKES DUH BETTAH BUN BO HUE." Yeah, who gives a damn what your mom makes. Or as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would say: "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR MOM MAKES (unless she just so happens to own a bun bo hue joint then that would make sense)." Obviously if your mom makes better bun bo hue, then don't eat the bloody bun bo hue here. Ahem. That being said, I personally don't come here for the bun bo hue. I'll steal some from whoever's eating it with me, but I go here for the banh canh tom cua or shrimp and crab noodle soup. The banh canh tom cua is simply unique and stands in its own class. The broth is thick and savory while the noodles remind me of udon from Japanese restaurants. It's most unlike many of the other banh canh tom cuas you get at other Vietnamese places like Quan Hy or Kang Lac. I can't really describe it in words. You really have to go there yourself and eat it. I mean, the broth is orange for starters and is scalding hot when they bring it out. They have crab and shrimp cakes in the broth which is mighty delicious coupled with some fried onions. Great stuff. A word of warning. Don't consume all of the soup. You'll be feeling the wonderful dry effect of MSG in Vietnamese soup. Another suggestion is drink lots and lots of water. That being said, I've been going here since I was born, so I know the repercussions. Happy eating y'all

on my quest to find good bun bo hue, no matter how many places i try, this place continues to be one of my fave. i love bun bo hue, and the one here is pretty good. i don't know what people are talking about when they say the broth is bland. usually i add many scoopfuls of the chili sauce and i'm fine..i made that mistake here, added a scoop, and it was burning hot =( it was this burning sensation that felt so AHHHHH but was sooo delicious at the same time...plus, the prices are decent, $5-$6 for a bowl i believe. don't order the banh beo here though, it's not that great and it doesn't even come with the pork rind =(

Bun Bo hue is my absolute favorite thing to eat. It's a spicy lemon grass soup accompanied by slippery white noodles and your choice of meat (usually pork or beef) Now onto the review- the service is terrible, and every time I've been there, it's been packed with people and one server. The service is poor (but in their defense so are most of vietnamese restuarants in the area) Now I've been here a couple times and it's hit or miss. The broth on some days was the best thing to cure a rainy day. On other days, the soup was lacking flavor. However, I like foods spicy, and if you do too, there is a little jar of chile infused lemon grass that you can add to your soup- YUM-O. I usually get Bun Bo Thit Cha- which has both beef and pork. The meat can also be hit or miss. it either can be tender or chewy and tough. I've had a bowl that was mostly sinewy tendon and tough meat before- not good. They have tons of vietnamese desserts for cheap- so be experimental and check it out. I would recommend Che Ba Mau. If you want a really great place for Bun Bo Hue-definitely go to Saigon Deli on Westminister. The place has better service, quality, and more options if you are looking to expand your repertoire of vietnamese cuisine.

Number 1 Bun Bo Hue? Maybe number 41. I love bun bo Hue as much as the next person. I used to go here a lot when I was in high school and I had many fond memories of it. The spiciness of the broth that you can make even spicier by adding some chili paste, the gobs of sweat as you endure each bite. The feeling of content as you chew on a big piece of pork. Yes, that is what bun bo Hue is supposed to be. However, in the past few years that I have been frequenting this little stop, I feel that the quality is slowly slipping away. Given, most Vietnamese people claim that their own mother cooks the best version, and I am guilty of that as well, I can not help but think how this place is changing. After a recent visit, I knew there was going to be slow service and the tables were going to be sticky, yet I dreamed of that spicy bowl of bun filled with a hearty blend of cow, pig and noodles would appease my watering mouth. To my discontent, the broth was watery and bland to say the least, the noodles were saturated with water from overcooking, there was so little meat, a vegetarian would eat this dish and the fact that I was not sweating was the nail in the coffin for this bowl. Next time I have a craving for the good stuff, I will just call my mom to make a pot and wait for the weekend to visit her own version of bun bo Hue, since that is still number one in my book.

Great soup. Service was excellent as well. I'll be back - good times.

This is not numero uno by a stretch. Why? First of all, my parents never heard of it. Second, I tried it and didn't like it. I had their BBH and Banh Nam and Banh Beo. The broth lacked flavor, the meat was tough and chewy. Banh Nam was pretty good. The dough used for the banh beo was to tough and chewy, like it was uncooked or something. Nothing to rave about.

the broth is really good but the noodles are a bit lacking, they're hard and short. the meat is decent enough i guess. the workers are super nice though. all in all id come back once in a while

If you want some good Bun Bo Hue, then come to this restaurant. It is appropriately named because their Bun Bo Hue is delicious and very flavorful. Almost good as Vietnam haha. Their Banh Beo is not too shabby either. However, I will comment and agree with most reviews that their service is nonexistant but if you eat at Vietnamese restaurants regularly, you know its just stop, eat and go in about 30-40 minutes. The waiter forgot one of our orders. However, whenever I go to a restaurant, my rating mainly goes based on the food and I cannot argue there. It's good.

I was asking one of my youth, some of her favorite places to eat and she mentioned this place to me a few years ago. Her family had been going to them for years, so I thought it should be good. I tried going a while ago but of course I choose a day they were closed on (it's one of the weekdays). And since it's bit of a trek from my work, I haven't had an opportunity to go again, so I just finally went today and ordered their #10. I'm no bun bo hue expert since I believe this is the first time I've had this dish but I just found it just okay. I think I was expecting more with the soup especially since other sources had spoken highly of it. I was expecting more flavor and I wasn't really feeling the noodles. It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall type place. And I've been to other hole-in-the-wall joints but this place could be a lot cleaner. So I can see why it's hasn't passed health inspections in the past. Service was okay.

Yeah I really like this place as well. I haven't been here in a while so I hope they didn't change the cook cause Bun Bo Hue is Numbero Uno. My pharmacist goes here every Thursday just to eat the BBH. The BBH is pretty authentic cuz it's one of the rare place that actually gives you banana blossoms as opposed to lettuce. Banh Beo Chen is not bad either, but they're really known for BBH. I would totally recommend this Place. It's by Pho 54 and tuck away on the side. It's not one of those trendy place like Quan Hy, but it has real Hue food.

I love this place xD It doesn't have the best bun bo hue but i don't know what other place does x_X So if you know, please do tell me hehe.. But yea, I love the service here and the food is decent and they weren't stingy on the vegetables ^^ Well, at least not to me.

This place is still good, but it used to be REALLY good. My last visit, less than a month ago, was the worst I've ever had for years. There was some speculation that an old lady that oversaw the cooking had left some time ago, and that's why the food didn't seem that good. There weren't enough noodles and meat, and my lemonade soda had too much sugar and ice. Never ran into these problems before. For now, it's still #1 in my book, until I happen to find a better place. That will be a sad day because I really like Bun Bo Hue So 1.

This place is way overrated and the name is misleading. The broth is bland, it just doesn't have umami and it has an aftertaste that leads me to believe it's got MSG. The meat is tougher than I like and it's not spicy as I would like but that's fine because I just add more chili oil sauce. Hue Rendevous on McFadden and Brookhurst across the street is much better.

The BBH here kicks ass! Especially when you add more of their chili sauce in the already spicy broth. Anyway, we were down in the OC for 8 days and 3 of the meals were at this hole in the wall. They would get 5 stars if the rest room was cleaner and the place have a/c. Definitely will come back for more!!!

This is mine and my family's go-to place for bun bo hue. I love that the broth is very clean and smooth tasting and not too overpowering. I also like the banh beo and com tam here. This would be a good spot to take bun bo hue newbies as the flavors are the most delicate here

the place is dirty filthy, always have a strong smell of fish sauce, shirmp paste combination. they need to circulate the air and get rid of the smell. the food isn't that great comparing to other places in the areas.. I tried 1, tried 2 and now away from this place. btw, don't leave tip here. it goes to the owner. Their Hispanic cook/server ladies get none but a miminum wage. want to improve your community? tell the owner how you feel.

I'm a connoisseur of bun bo hue and this place is not good at ALL. The broth is very bland and on the sweet side. The meat is very chewy. Definitely will not come back. If you're looking for good bun bo hue, try Ngu Binh or Pho Cong Ly (I know, the name has pho in it but, trust me, most people order bun bo hue here. Actually the big sign from the street says Saigon Deli; the much smaller sign says Pho Cong Ly. Go figure.) on opposite sides of Westminster Bldv at Magnolia. Pho Cong Ly's version is closest to the bun bo hue I remember eating in Vietnam as a child. The broth's spiciness is a slow burn and kicks in just when you think, "oh this is not that spicy." My only complaint is that they're a little stingy with the meat. Ngu Binh gives you much more meat and the broth is much richer but can be too salty at times. I also liked the version offered at Nguyen Thuy but the restaurant is closed now :(
