small rolls taste like rice and seaweed only. I give them credit for the rice bowls but too pricey. I can get the same tasting item in San Francisco for 5 bucks. Sorry to offend anyone.

My husband and I LOVE this place. Yes they are a little price but WORTH every cent! The restaurant is always clean and the service is great! I highly recommend it to anyone!

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to in a LOOONG time. I must admit, I am partial to Japanese/Sushi joints that are actually owned and run by Japanese people, and this is one of them. They have a wide variety of Japanese foods and many different sushi rolls. It's nice to see a Japanese restaurant that isn't just sushi and teriyaki. One of my favorite Japanese foods is chicken katsu-don. They have it here, and it's GOOD! The service is always on point when we go there, and there are many different servers that will come and check on you. It may be a bit pricey, but that's Japanese food for you. If you go to Japan, it costs even more! It's not like we can catch fresh tuna from Turlock Lake.

Sushi Garden II rocks. I eat lots of sushi so trust me I know.

Wait staff is adequate but when you get there they take their time in seating you. Had problem with bill. Charged me $30 each for two kids meals they made. A 4 year old and a 9 year old had a small tempura meal. I suggested $30 for both but not each. I even pointed out price in the menu. Total bill was over $120. I pointed out mistake to owner. He was rude and refused to fix the bill. I paid the bill but I will never return. I tell everyone that asks for good sushi in turlock not to go here. Food was decent. Service staff okay. But owner tried to gouge me and my family and that's not okay.

Long waits on the weekends 15-30 min but food is worth the wait! Staff is overall friendly. Food is not authentic Japanese sushi but a great variety of choices! Curry roll & anything with salmon is good here! Miso soup is served with each meal. Food is always fresh and waitresses are helpful.

I have been going to this place off and on since they opened. One thing that has changed: better quality sushi. One thing that hasn't changed: the manager or guy that runs the front desk. He will ignore you and is quite slow. The other day he gave me someone else's take out. The place is a little small but clean. Other than that the sushi is great and decently priced. 4 out of 5 due to the front manager.

I have always received good service at Sushi Garden II. They are always busy and there is usually a wait but the service is fantastic and the food is very good.

Well, I tried this place for the last time. Even tho the owners are Japanese they r clueless when it comes to Japanese food. The sushi is mediocre at best. 1. The food in general is not worth the price. 2. The quality of the fish was ok. The tuna(maguro) was old and had a fishy taste to it yuck! 3. Service was slow. It seems that their personal life is more important than their job. The pros 1. The staff is very friendly 2. It's a nice change from the usual places from Turlock.

The yelp page states they close at 9pm. However, I was their at 8:30pm and was not able to place an order to go because they were closing. When I asked what time they closed they responded with, "in a few minutes". They will continue to loose clientele by their inability to provide good customer service.

I love this place!!!! I'd give it 5 stars but I wish the place was a little bigger. Sometimes it's get so packed that it feels claustrophobic... but the food never disappoints.

Amazing customer service and food every time I go. I always recommend this place to people when they want to try sushi for the first time.

Great sushi my favorite is the spicy shrimp eel roll! Great service too! They always remember my families order when we go in there!

  • Yuri H.

Excellent service and great sushi. Too bad the prices went up so much and they increased the requirements for the stamp card. They know me by name, I'm a little ashamed lol. Still my go to place and also one of the few places that serve Sapporo light.

    (5)
  • Daisy R.

Sushi's ok, but won't come back for it. Calamari was rubbery, grossest thing ever. Beers weren't cold. Waitress was nice, but still not worth going back

Loved it, one of the best I've had!

Love! Love! Love! I have tried many sushi restaurants even in Maui and this place has them all beat. My favs are the spicy shrimp eel roll and the tiger roll. They are super friendly and they always remember us. I highly recommend them!!!

My favorite place in Turlock to eat sushi. I love how you get soup before your meal. It is also very reasonable price wise. I love the lion king roll. It is great for those who aren't used to sushi because it is cooked. It is a downer that they are closed at certain times. It is well worth it to make your way to this place. This is the spot for sushi in Turlock!

    (5)
  • Austin B.

This is great food!! The portions are huge and presentation is perfect. 2 people can expect to spend about $35. Without the beers or sake. I will have to check out their Modesto location next. Great place

Great service in a very busy restaurant tonight. Staff all seems to work very well and food is very fresh. Having sashimi with a seaweed salad. How yummy.

    (5)
  • Cathy R.

Not impressed! Went for lunch I feel it's a little on the pricey side, had the sashimi lunch $10.50 it's really weird for me to eat cold fish and warm rice. I also felt the place was not as clean as it could b, 3 sushi chefs and each one when not busy was on their phones and the would make sushi without washing hands and no gloves, kinda turned my stomach when I saw this .....

Great miso soup, yummy salad (with avocado!), and tasty spider rolls. Always very friendly. I've been going here for the past few years and have always had a wonderful dining experience.

  • Ivette A.

My favorite place for Sushi! Sucks its so small so almost always wait, but worth it. The rolls are large not like their competitor.

  • Kham S.

I love this place. The service is always great and very friendly. This is my Hubby and I favorite spot.

    (5)
  • Malati S.

MSG in nearly all dishes. Ginger Pork and sushi are only items on menu not to use MSG. Ginger Pork used cheaply cut pork rather than pork loin. Vegetable tempura lightly battered, which was nice, but the vegetables where tasteless. We went on a Saturday evening, 5:00 pm. By 6:00 pm it was starting to fill up.

  • JT T.

Sushi in Turlock? Well, I'm glad to have it. Previous owner of Sho mi in Stockton and the same owner as the Sushi Garden in Modesto. The sushi rolls are good and huge. My bro and I ordered 3 rolls and we could barely finish it. (we also had the fried oysters but that doesn't really count). We had a roll that had some almond chips on it, which added an unique flavor and crunchy texture to the roll. Loved it. I also like the curry sauce on the sushi roll. So good. Only thing bad thing about the place is the fact it is so small that the wait to be seated can be long.

    (4)
  • Mike L.

Not bad sushi, but not the best either. Had the Oh my god, spider, and spicy tuna rolls. The Oh my god and spider rolls were absolutely huge in diameter and rolled very loosely so they were impossible to pick up without completely falling apart. A disappointing number of rolls with imitation crab.

i love love love loooovvvvee this place!!!!!!! sushi garden II has my heart. Ive tried other sushi places in town, Modesto and Santa Cruz but I've never been as satisfied as i am with sushi garden Sushi garden II has never disappointed me, everything on the menu is Delicious and the staff is always so friendly. Once you try it you will never look to go anywhere else, and try everything its all so good the only thing i will say that is eh on there menu is the udon not so good.

Great place. Definitely the best sushi amongst the three here in town. I remember they even lowered their prices when gas prices were going up. Great business. Great service. Great food.

  • Donn B.

There is no better sushi available for at least 50 miles in any direction. (Rough estimate) The sushi chefs here are always very friendly. The fish is the freshest available. The maguro (Tuna) is deep-reddish pink, which is only possible when it has never been frozen. This fish is trucked in fresh, kept fresh, and served promptly. I have never had a bad or 'fishy' tasting piece of sashimi here. The Miso soup is excellent. Rolls are very creative, flavorful, and artistically presented. Sashimi is traditionally stylish. Teriyaki, Udon and other cooked dishes are all prepared fresh, and with very good sauces/broths. Tempura is very good. This place was recommended to me by a friend from Japan. 'Nuff said. I used to go to other restaurants in town for sushi until I discovered Sushi Garden II. Hands-down recommended above all others. Eat here.

Ok, if you have to do sushi in Turlock, this is as good as it is going to get. Not a world class place, but it is clean, the sushi is fresh, and they have a good variety of foods on the menu. There are much better places in Sacramento and the bay area, but this isn't too bad. Occasional slow service when they hire new kids.

  • Liz P.

I've been really wanting to try this place out because of all the good reviews on yelp, but I wasn't impressed at all! I ordered my rolls to go...and for two rolls it was 19 bucks. The price is way too high and the sushi isn't even that good. Maybe I would have had a different experience if I had dined in, but who knows! I ordered a deep fried sushi and it was way overcooked. Plus the sushi wasn't even wrapped well. I know better sushi places that are cheaper and way better. Just my opinion though.

    (2)
  • Becky L.

I come here all the time. This is the best sushi in town. I cheated on Sushi Garden a couple of times and went to the other sushi joint across town and was sorely disappointed twice. Sushi Garden is consistently good. I wouldn't say it's bay area quality, but for being so far inland, not bad. I like the nigiri, the Tempura Scallop roll, Oh My God Roll and, for noodle lovers, I recommend the udon too.

  • Rosie T.

I went to Sushi Garden after orientation at school and was pleasantly surprised. First off it was packed once we got in there. The service was extremely friendly. I forgot what roll we got :( but it was yummy and the fish tasted fresh. I know we got a baked roll and that wasn't bad either, I usually don't like baked rolls. The sashimi was amazing. The were big fat pieces too! Lol. I sound like a weirdo but I loooove sashimi, it's my favorite part of going for sushi, so I was pretty happy. Overall they have decent prices for relatively good portions. When I start school I'll come back for lunch. :)

Being that I have Celiac Disease, I can't have much here other than the Philly Roll, but that's okay because Philly Rolls are my favorite and there's is near perfect! ;) Every time I've went I've had a very positive experience with the service. They have been very helpful in accommodating my dietary restrictions. Update: haven't been here in a few months now due to some issues with cleanliness & finding hair in our rolls on more than one occasion. :-/

Never had a bad meal here. Excellent service, great food and nice staff. I recommend getting spicy California rolls and fried tempura vegetables as an appetizer.

Best Sushi in town IMO. My wife and I go there every time we feel like having amazing sushi in a great atmosphere. The staff is pleasant and friendly, they are always very appreciative of our patronage. Collect your stamped cards for free gift cards. Great overall place, a real gem in Turlock.

The best sushi place in Turlock love the food specially the dragon roll friendly stuff and good place to go out with the family unfortunately it's a bit small for big parties

    (5)
  • Irene S.

My aunt prefers this Sushi place over my favorite so we go here when we go out to lunch together. The customer service is less than impressive and the food is tasteless. I have to pile on the hot sauce to enjoy the food here and when I asked if I could add spicy imitation crab on top of my roll the woman looked at me like I was crazy and said it couldn't be done. When I repeated my question in a different way hoping she just didn't understand what I meant she replied the same. I don't see how this request was a difficult one but I shrugged it off since I'm not one to complain normally. Also, the rice wasn't cold enough. It's super strange to each sushi that isn't cold enough.

When I first got there (at the beginning of the noon hour) it was so quiet, I was one of 3 tables...But by the time I was leaving, all tables were packed... Dining alone is no fun, as I like to try a variety of items during my visit...I at least got to try 2 rolls UnaQ (low carb) and the spicy tuna roll (light on the rice)... a Miso soup was complimentary... Very tasty meal... not many Sushi Choices in Turlock to compare... But I know when I'm craving sushi, and I'm in the area, I won't hesitate on coming back.. Friendly staff (sisters look like twins- both were very sweet and knowledgeable on the menu) Never had an empty glass... Be back soon!

Whenever I'm traveling from Sacramento to Turlock I always stop here for lunch. I always get the sushi lunch. The lunch special is extremely large and very filling. this is what comes with it: potato salad is bomb, side salad with good Asians dressing, tempura vegetables awesome California roll 4 pieces are yummy and the fresh tuna and salmon. Great lunch under $15

I'm from Stockton where there are tons of sushi joints and my brother is a sushi chef so I'd like to think I know good sushi. Sushi Garden really blew me away. This place is quite small but they definitely utilize the space well. All tables and no booths, but I didn't mind since we got a nice table window. So I came in Halloween morning with my friends and neice. I'd heard great things about this place and have been wanting to try this place out. It really lived up to its reputation. Workers were dressed in cute costumes and treated us like family. Initially our order was taken by the male server, but it was dropped off by the female server. Both checked on us constantly to make sure we were happy with our orders (but not annoyingly). Clean restaurant. Friendly atmosphere. Delicious food. Generous portions. Definitely my go to sushi place in Turlock!

  • Jill R.

Awesome food. All the time. Everything is great!!! I wouldn't recommend ordering take out. But if you do, make sure it's your order.... We picked it up, got home and noticed our order was wrong. Called & re-ordered. Drove back (about ten mins.) & they tried to give us our food that was sitting there on the counter for the past 25 mins. No thanks. The food we brought back was given to another customer... Fresh, raw fish that made a trip to our house and back. Not good practices. We asked for some soup & he wanted to charge us! Keep your money. The manager, or whoever the older gentleman is, answering phones and taking your credit card, should probably get some training on customer service and OSHA/FFDA regs.

This is a good sushi place for Turlock. These are not very many sushi options in town, let alone with quality fish. This is a very friendly environment where the employees remember you and feels like a you're going to a friends restaurant. I love the picture menu! Yes sounds dumb, but I'll tell ya all guys secretly wish all menus had pictures, that's where yelp usually comes in for me, but they had it, picture menu- awesome!!

  • Zack C.

The sushi here is moderately priced, nothing too pricey, nothing super cheap. The seaweed salad needs some work, maybe a little more sauce. The Oh My God Roll is delicious and gigantic too! The chefs are very friendly and accomodating. All in all I will probably be back but this is not the best sushi I've ever had.

The valley is known to not have the BEST sushi but this place is great. The sushi is really good, good proportion and the prices are even better. For the most part the customer service is great although they do seem to get very busy on Friday nights.

Got here at 8:35pm and they refused service saying they were slow !! Sign outside says 9pm unbelievable :/

Bones in the sushi, no rice for the kids meals, and the teriyaki chicken roll was dry and flavorless! Skip this place. The bathroom and windows were also very dirty.

Service was overall pretty good. We got in and out of the place. They were quick with everything but didn't make us feel rushed. I had teriyaki chicken and steaks really good. My rainbow roll was yummy too. My date said it was he best sushi place in Turlock. He eats it all over. Restaurant itself is nice looking as well

My wife had been to this place for lunch and couldn't stop talking about how good it was so we went to dinner. It was on a Saturday so they didn't open until 5pm. We were there when they opened. We ordered the Philly roll, Tempura roll and the Vegi roll. A few mins later they brought our soup. WOW! delicious. Then about 10 mins later they brought our rolls. Both my wife and I were stunned how big they were. There was an ample side of pickled ginger and wasabi however I didn't use much of the wasabi because the rolls were fantastic. The Philly roll with smoked salmon, cucumber, and cream cheese was awesome. Then the Tempura roll with its crunch was delicious as was the seasonal Vegi roll. This is a difinate do over.

I wish more restaurants would cater to my diet! Sushi roll with no carbs? AND it is the unagi roll? Hello Una-Q Roll! Delicious pieces of unagi, imitation crab meat wrapped in slices of cucumber. Especially refreshing on a scorching summer day! Unfortunately, im a pig so one roll is not enough. Luckily they have mini meals! YAY! A mini meal that just hits the spot and regulates on your portion control? Thank goodness because we all know I have NO self control around food, especially good food! GUILT FREE EATING! Marry me, Sushi Garden! Never leave my life! Hours: Lunch: Monday - Friday 11:30am to 2:15pm Dinner: Monday - Saturday 5:00pm to 9:00pm (Closed Sundays)

Love this place. I live in Turlock and have always loved Sushi Garden in Modesto. I was so happy the opened Sushi Garden II here. It's the best Sushi in the Modesto area. I recommend the tempura scallop roll, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

  • Ally N.

Great food, and the ONLY place we go to for sushi. The only complaint I have is sometimes the service is excellent, sometimes, it's horrible! Even when they aren't busy, it took us 15 minutes for the check to come to our table. But their California Crunch rocks! So it obviously isn't THAT bad because we keep going back. Sometimes I notice their inability to keep up with everything, almost as if they are understaffed which shows, and we try to be understanding about it, but we have other things to do as well. So when we go, we just make sure we aren't in a time crunch.

My experience at this restaurant was bad enough for me to pull out my phone and make a yelp account in order to make this review. My girlfriend and I came here on saturday night. Our waters were never refilled the entire time we were there, and after we were done eating we waited for over twenty minutes before we got our check and that was only before we got their attention. While we were waiting to get our check there were other couples waiting to be seated with no sign of a server anywhere. The service was leaving much to be desired. I ordered the seaseme chicken entree and my girlfriend ordered a tempura Philadelphia roll. My food came with a side of some mashed potato like thing? I just about gagged after eating it, my chicken tasted like fish and was cold. Granted they were busy and I understand this and this is why I gave them two stars. They might deserve a second shot but they won't get one from me. I do not reccomend this resturant.

This place is always packed especially of course, when everyone around the area is on their lunch break. Don't come in too late though because they stop serving lunch by 2:15 pm and re-open for dinner at 5. (Sundays, they're closed.) The restaurant is right across California State University Stanislaus. If I were still a student, I'd go broke because I love sushi! They have great lunch plate specials and they come in pretty promptly. So, I can see how they have a lot of patrons who come in for a quick chow. Sadly though, I am not a fan of their kind of sushi nor their other offerings. I once ordered their Broiled Squid and decided that I liked it better at Sushi Cuisine (behind Safeway). We also found it strange that they serve traditional potato salad as a side with their lunch plate. We still prefer the greens with the ginger dressing. If there's any consolation, the place is clean, the staff is nice and parking is plentiful.

I was craving something light and tasty today and decided to pop into Sushi Garden for lunch. $7.95 for the lunch special and I got 4 California Rolls, five pieces of tempura, and sesame chicken with white rice. Oh and I forgot the Miso Soup. The California Roll was so good. It was rolled fresh for my order; the crab was delicious and the rice soft. The tempura shrimp was soft and sweet; the tempura warm, crispy, and slightly salted. That first bite was like butter. The Sesame Chicken was very delicious. I scooped up chunks of rice combined with chunks of the chicken and ate every last morsel. Great place and I will be back again and again.

Sushi sushi! I decided to treat myself to lunch today. I didn't have much time for a nice leisurely lunch, so I settled on takeaway. Since I couldn't eat meat today (lent), sushi was the perfect choice. I walked in the door soon after they opened for lunch. The waitress greeted me with a smile and promptly gave me a menu when I told her I wanted my order to-go. She pointed out the lunch specials, but I had my heart set on sushi. I chose the curry shrimp roll because I love curry and I love tempura shrimp. I asked if the curry was spicy. The gentleman at the register informed me it was mild. Sold. Within minutes the sushi chef personally delivered my roll to me. I was in and out in a little over 6 minutes. I returned to work and joined my coworkers who were already enjoying their meals. I happily opened my little box containing my roll. I took a bite and immediately noticed how spicy the curry sauce was. Yikes! I enjoy a little bit of spice every now and then, but I don't like it when my mouth feels like it is on fire. I ended up scraping off the sauce to the best of my ability. The roll itself was very tasty. I know everyone has different levels of tolerance when it comes to spicy food, so I will not hold this against the restaurant. I would definitely like to return someday. I'll just have to remember to not order anything with the curry sauce! ;)

One of a few Sushi restaurants in Turlock and definitely one of my favorites. I've pretty much stuck to the rolls and what I've experienced makes me very happy. Each roll is very savory with its own unique blend of flavors and textures. The sauces are right on the money and mix well with everything going on. There are no 'bento boxes' per say, but the plates are nice with a good selection for people who are picky or squeamish about eating 'sushi' because of their misconceptions of it. While there are plenty of selections with 'raw fish' to them, there are just as many (if not more) with grilled or smoked fish and everything cooked. I say get together with a bunch of people and order a mess of rolls to be placed on a single platter before digging in. Its how I would suggest eating at any good sushi place, and this one ranks up there considering you're no where near the water.

Sushi Garden II is the best sushi in Turlock! I love going here when I'm craving sushi. The service is usually great except for one time, my boyfriend called in for a pick-up order and they gave him the wrong order and then realized they never put his in. They gave us free edimame for their mistake, but my boyfriend was still pretty pissed about them not putting his order in as it was my birthday and he was trying to surprise me with it by a certain time. Besides that one time, it's been good. As far as the food goes, my favorite rolls are the philadelphia roll, tiger roll, and lion king roll! I don't recommend the Oh My God roll unless you have an abnormally large mouth...the roll really lives up to it's name. If you dine in, you get a free soup with your order which is really good! The edimame is a big hit too! It's not a very big place, but they make space if you have a big party...I recommend making reservations if it's a weekend. Another great thing is the stamp card. For every $30 you spend, you get a stamp and I think after about 12 stamps you get a $30 gift card. On Mondays you get 2 stamps! If you're looking for good sushi in Turlock, Sushi Garden is the place to go! :)

Valentines Day 2011... where to eat for a quick & casual dinner after work? Some place you can expect a tasty and relatively healthy/light meal? In Turlock where the majority of your choices are chain restaurants? Head over to Sushi Garden II. When you look over the sushi menu, you can definitely expect to get your money's worth on the "expensive" $14 rolls. These rolls are biggos, look pretty, and taste great too. Suggestions are the Monte Vista Roll and the Turlock Roll. Another favorite is the Curry Roll - an innovative idea of adding curry sauce to the top of a tuna/cucumber/avocado roll. They have this roll with tempura shrimp too if you don't like raw fish. For a cheap meal for two, try the Warrior's Platter - Rainbow Roll & Tiger Roll with tempura banana (delish) as dessert, all for $20. Seaweed salad is another staple every time I eat at Sushi Garden II. Service is very fast and you start off every meal with miso soup. The owner is always there and even helps out with cleaning tables during busy times. They are closed on Sundays which is a major bummer. Mondays is their "double stamp" day. Get 12 stamps (1 stamp each time you eat) and you receive a $30 gift card. Since living in the Modesto/Turlock/Oakdale area where there aren't many great options, I always try sushi during my travels - Bay Area, Maui, Seattle, etc. I always compare my meals to Sushi Garden II since I'm most familiar with it. Sushi Garden II is a great restaurant with good food - definitely as good as it gets in Turlock/Modesto.

Customer Service is pretty blah, but the food is fantastic, especially if you've got a savory palette. They're a little happy with the teriyaki sauce--almost every roll on the menu has it--, which isn't a personal favorite of mine, and so I order my Tiger Rolls without it. The Spicy Tuna is great because they're large and they have roe on top; I find it a nice finishing touch. I'd suggest going for the food and just don't expect much customer service.

You will NOT find finer, cleaner, more reasonably priced sushi in Turlock! I love the mini bento plate for five dollars and change, as well as their tempura scallop roll with almonds and a delicious sauce. The green tea is always piping hot, the miso soup is cleansing and filling, and the entire waitstaff is very sweet and accommodating. This is the only place I trust for sushi, and I've tried several others in town! My ONLY complaint is that they close from 2:00 - 5:00 every day to prepare for dinner, which bums me and my fellow CSU Stan attendees out majorly some days!

Have never been to Sushi Garden II before. Guess because I heard it was very expensive. Went there today for lunch and was very surprised. I like sushi but am not a very big fan of it. Can take it or leave it. We ordered a Cali roll and a terriyaki roll. They were very well prepared. Very tasty. The cost was the most surprising of all. Under $20.00. Now that's a deal. This is a place I will go back to again. Oh did I mention the service??? Nope, I didn't. Very fast and johnny on the spot. No waiting here. That's what I like. 2 thumbs up.

After eating here there times now I feel like I have a good grasp on the place. The service has been genuinely friendly. Prices are good for sushi and the roll quality is great. Definitely not the kind of sushi place where presentation trumps portions. The girlfriend and I have tried quite a few rolls here and the favorites are: Dragon Roll, Shrimp Curry Roll and the Rainbow roll. The only roll I won't try again is the OMG roll because it's just too big to eat without the mouth/jaws of a anaconda! Why anyone would make a roll so large in diameter I have no idea but be warned. The flavor it fine but personally I don't like having to look for the traditional fork/knife so that I can cut my roll in half. The soup they serve before your main course is salty goodness and a nice addition.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER AT A SUSHI PLACE! I wish there was a NO STARS rating! Lemme just start by saying that I drove from Merced to Turlock just to try this place out. My boyfriend parked the car in the parking lot, and we could see through the window that the hostess was already eyeing us. When we got inside, the hostess completely ignored us. I was so irritated that I had to go up to her and say that we wanted a table for two, please. She shrugged me off like she didn't care. Okay, I waited. Driving 30 min to a new place and starting off my date night on the wrong foot= does not go well with me. I don't appreciate, nor do I tolerate people who give me an attitude when it is unnecessary. She finally sat us down at a cramped table that she took apart from a table of 6! We had no room! She sat us down and didn't even give us a menu. We had to wait, cuz I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I could understand if they are understaffed and she's stressed or something. After about 10 minutes, my boyfriend had to ask for a menu. The chick had the nerve to glare at my boyfriend. We were starving and we just wanted some sushi. Is that too much to ask for? We finally ordered. The food took approximately 40 min or so to come out. People who got their table and sat down after us actually got their food before us! The food came out and it wasn't good at all. It was so shitty! How can you fail that epically in sushi? Maybe my expectations are high because I'm from the Bay Area. Still... We waited forever to get service. I wanted hot tea and it didn't come until the food came out! That's not right. You're supposed to get your drinks before your food so that you have something to fill your stomach while you're waiting. GEEZ! The bill came and I told my boyfriend to not tip them. WE'RE DEFINITELY NEVER COMING BACK HERE! Restaurants are supposed to offer you great food and great customer service. Here, you get neither. Food sucked. Service? There was none! I mean, how's a restaurant supposed to run like that? The staff here made me and my boyfriend feel like we weren't needed or wanted. That's fine with us. We can go somewhere else! *btw, sorry if i sound hostile. I do have my reasons...first time for everything...

I stumbled upon this place while driving back from Turlock to Modesto, and was pleasantly surprised. I had 3 different types of rolls and they were all delicious, artistically created by the sushi chief, who was very nice and helpful.

First off I have only dined at a handful of Sushi restaurants. A few others in town, some in modesto, in the bay and in Santa Cruz. So far this is the best. I thought if this little place in Turlock in the Valley was good somewhere right off the ocean like Santa Cruz or the Bay Area would be even better. I found myself dissapointed with anything else . I heart this place more than any other sushi place. I go regularly and this place really made me fall in love with sushi as where Mikis or Osaka failed. The Uni is great when its in season and I love yellow tail. As far as the rolls they have an amazing Curry Roll and the deep fried California is always good. The portions are way better than anywhere in the area and the rolls dont looked jacked like most either. Nice and Clean

Deep fried shrimp tasted good but, within 30 minutes had food poisoning. Major disappointment. My companion ordered spicy tuna roll there was a smudge of tuna which was barely enough tuna to cover the tip of chopstick. The tuna roll only tasted like cream cheese . Due to the bout of diarrhea from their food we will never ever come back or reccomend this place. Your food is poision.

The country folk in Turlock don't have many options to eat "fine cuisine" especially when it comes to Japanese food. We'd have to get in our covered wagons, put the cows to pasture, and head to Modesto if we wanted good Sake Nigiri. And what was the worst part? After trekking all the way to Motown to get to Sushi Garden, it would be closed!! Up until now, if you didn't want to drive all the way to Modesto Sushi Cuisine was the only good option when eating raw fish in Turlock. But not anymore! Turlock finally has its own Sushi Garden. Its only been open a short while and I need to check a larger selection but the first time I had it I was pleasantly surprised. The fish is really fresh and the service is great too. I'm thinking this will be my default from now on. So why only three stars? Well, to be frank, after having the great Sushi at places like Takashi in SLC and some of the finer places in San Francisco, I have to reserve 4 and 5 stars for the places that really amaze me with unique dishes. But until Takashi decides to open a place in this area, I have to say "Arigato" to the Sushi Garden folks for opening one in our neck of the woods.

Love this place! My bf brings me here & he loves it too. Food is always fresh & fast & they have great miso soup. Service has always been good or excellent. Staff is friendly & it looks clean. Always busy too, which is a good sign. Prices are not too bad. We can have a nice bite & not spend too much. It's just all around consistent & satisfying. We tried the other sushi spot near Verizon & Safeway & we decided we will only come to Sushi Garden II after that experience.

I LOVEEEEEEEEE this place. I HATED sushi before I came to Sushi Garden. I have had sushi in Chicago, San Diego, LA, everywhere! I never seemed to like it until I tried it at the Sushi Garden 2. The people that work there are so friendly. It's ALWAYS clean. I haven't ever seen it where there are plates still on the table. Overall, the best sushi place by far! =)

we love Sushi Garden in Modesto and are regulars there but decided to go to the Turlock location since we had to be in the area later the same night. It was a little confusing when we walked in since they were very busy and didn't seem to have a hostess like the Modesto location does. The space is smaller than the Modesto location and since it was a crowded Friday night we opted for faster seating and service at the sushi bar. Miso soup which comes with anything you order (at both locations) was standard except they do serve it there with a Udon spoon which made me wish more places did that, no risk of burning my mouth as each slurp could be cooled to my liking. The sushi roll menu seemed to have a few more choices than Modesto and they also had some set meals for 2 which looked like a good deal but way too much food for us that night. (appetizers, multiple rolls, nigiri, soup, salad, tempura, dessert, I mean that is A LOT). We had the Monte Vista roll which I really enjoyed, it had a nice flavor to the sauces but they weren't overpowering and I could still taste the fish quite clearly which is why we eat sushi. Also tried the Una-Q roll that is wrapped in cucumber instead of rice, refreshing but I found it a little challenging to eat as the end of the cucumber kept falling away from the roll right as I went to put it in my mouth. We felt we wanted to tackle another roll so we opted for a favorite from the Modesto location: spicy shrimp and eel roll. Sushi Garden II did not disappoint and delivered a tasty, spicy morsel. Would definitely go back and absolutely recommend this spot for Sushi in Turlock!

The food a sushi garden II is ok. The amount of sushi you get is pretty good so you can go there if you have a big appetite. Everybody seems friendly and the service is good.
