Went to palace bbq for a birthday dinner and for the price, I would think it would be a little better based on the previous reviews. I must say that the korean bbq is pretty darn good, I just don't like the concept of having to wait for the food even longer because you have to cook it yourself. I suppose for those that can eat a whole lot of MEAT this would be a good deal. For those that don't eat a lot of korean bbq, this place is not for you. Also if you cook a lot on the grill you can ask them to replace it if there are a lot of burnt stuff on it. The chicken had a good spice on it and so did the beef, I didn't care for the pork. Some of the meat wasn't edible because it had so much fat on them (but I guess that is what gives it more flavor right?) Another bummer is that if you have parties of 6 or more you would have to sit on different tables. My party was a total of 7 and we were all adults so we had to sit on two tables. The sides were decent. They have white rice, fried rice, chow mein, egg rolls (could be better), all kinds of fruit and other interesting stuff that I didn't really bother to try. The miso soup didn't have tofu :(. My sister raved about the pumpkin soup and I thought it was rather bland and had a consistency that wasn't appealing to me. As for the service it was alright...I didn't know how many times I had to ask the ladies for refills until they actually did it. The birthday person gets to dine for free and you can go either the day on or the day after, since we celebrated a week later we didn't get one comped :(

My family likes coming here from time to time, mostly because there's a lot more variety - aside from just meats. Personally, I feel like you can find better quality meats at places, like Tobang, but Palace has so much other stuff to choose from that it`s worth a visit now and then as well. They also have ice cream, but it's behind the back counter, and you have to ask for someone to make it for you. Service is okay - there aren`t enough employees when the place is full, and parking can be pretty bad because of the grocery store next door. Also, you can eat for free on your birthday if you bring 3 paying customers (:

I biggest tip for this place is to wear clothes that you don't really care about and definitely wear your stretchy pants because you are in for a long delicious ride. Make sure to load up on the spareribs, they are marinated to perfection. They also have mounds upon mounds of thinly sliced meat so don't skip on those either. I would have given this place a higher ranking because I will definitely be back for my short rib fix, but the service here is dreadful. I understand that there might be a language barrier, but this was exceptionally bad. I went here with my friend and we were halfway through our meal before we noticed that we didn't get anything to drink or even asked. So we asked one of the servers if we could get 2 waters and 2 hot teas. 10 mins later still nothing. So we ask the same server again where our drinks were. She apologizes and brings us 1 water and 1 hot tea. Where are our other drinks? Also they ran out of rice and when I asked them if they were bringing out more, the servers looked at me like I was a crazy person. So I just sat down and didn't eat it with rice. Honestly, the food here is pretty good. If you are fine with practically no service then this is the place for you.

I'm not usually picky about Korean BBQ restaurants, especially if it is an AYCE Korean BBQ restaurant, but this place was very very disappointing. For one I was expecting it to be at least average compared to Koreatown LA's Korean Bbq. Then I thought hey the competition is not stiff so you shouldn't expect as much. Then I tasted the food and thought this is the worst Korean BBQ meat I've had even lower than the worst in Koreatown. What I'm trying to say is there's better options in the area. Much better! Food: Short ribs - The extreme thin cut takes away from the texture it should be giving. Pork belly - This was actually decent but they didn't have sesame oil w/ salt and pepper available anywhere Bugulgi - Had a sandy texture to it and it was unnaturally soft which hints the use of a lot of baking soda. Chopchae - This was decent though it did not taste fresh Cold Buckwheat noodles - Noodles was caked on Kimchi - I don't think they make their own because this taste like the jugs I buy in the markets. Beansprout - Well executed Missing staple Korean BBQ items - Rice paper, steam egg, sesame oil and soy sauce/vinegar mix. Service: I've never been to any Korean place where all the sides and placed on a buffet table. I was excited with the idea of it being in a buffet table where I can get as many sides as I want, but now I understand why they bring it to you. It is due to quality. Their panchan looked so run down I didn't even bother grabbing any. Environment: Plentiful parking in this plaza. Looks/feels like a Korean bbq restaurant that means business until you sit down and realize all the missing links. Price: $27 WTF! That is freakin expensive for KBB. I would not recommend anyone this place....especially those who are spoiled with the Korean BBQ restaurants in socal. Try Bob Sang Korean BBQ in Fremont or Jong Ga House in Oakland for a better experience/food. Food: 2 Service: 3 Environment: 3 Price: 1

Came by for dinner the other night and the experience has gone downhill from a few years ago. The short ribs were okay, although somewhat thinly-sliced and not super flavorful. From the cooked buffet, the spinach salad was bland and the egg rolls are now vegetarian (when they used to contain meat inside...) The string beans weren't fully cooked... The rest of the meats were okay. Upon request, they did switch out our grill. Drinks are extra, including sodas. Vanilla ice cream is included in the buffet and it was gross... Dinner buffet was ~$26/person + tax & tip.

The meats were delicious and the service was great. The waitress was very prompt and attentive. She made sure we had extra lettuce (to wrap the meats), brought my family and I more water and tea, and kept replacing our grill with a new one. If you come here, ask for some sesame oil with salt in a small dish. Dip the cooked pork belly in it and wrap it in the lettuce along with grilled garlic and jalapeno (which you should ask for more). The combination of flavor is exquisite so hope everyone can give it a try. The marinate short ribs/kalbi was good too, but too much fat. I guess some people like it that way, but I like it a little less. The napa kimchi was ok for me. I had better napa kimchi at other Korean restaurants, but the daikon and cucmber kimchi were delicious. Bean sprouts and seaweed salad were awesome too! Don't recommend the sushi here since you'll be wasting room for all the other good stuff.

Been here for the first time with my friend and we had a horrible experience! We have been to different Korean BBQ places. I think their food is alright, not that good. Service is terrible! We got there at 8:30 they close at 10, by 9:15 the waitress came by to drop off the check and asked us to pay right away because they are closing at 10... It was only 9:15 lady! She stood there and waited for us to give her to credit card. Fine, we handed her the card and 5 minutes later they came back to check on us to see if we sign on it yet, we didn't want to sign until we finish eating. They kept walking back and forth to check for 3 times! By 9:30 one of the waitress came and make us sign right away because they are "closing" seriously?! It's not even 10 yet! why in such a rush? They were lucky we gave them $2 tip! They don't deserve it. We will never come back again and would not recommend anyone to go there.

Solid buffet with pretty good quality meats. I preferred the marinated over the non-marinated meats. Kalbi and Bulgogi were excellent. Aside from plenty of meats to bbq, there were a fair amount of cooked dishes that were pretty good. I liked the fried fish they had. There's also the obligatory random sushi rolls all non-Japanese buffets require. Would come back again.

Palace BBQ Buffet is a great place to go if you're looking to give yourself a mighty case of the meat sweats. The buffet is packed with Korean marinaded chicken, pork and beef. The accompaniments are pretty sparse. I would like to have traditional Korean side dishes served at the table, this would improve things a lot for me. The quality is pretty good but not special, but like most buffets it's more about the quantity -- all you care to cook for yourself on the little grill in the middle of your table. The concept is cute, just like Yakuniku, but you're out to eat, so why are YOU doing the cooking? It's a lot of work to socialize, cook and eat all at the same time. It gets packed during peak hours because we all loves the gluttony. It's not a bargain, but Korean food never is (except maybe that Sweet Potato Stall guy in K-Town, but I digress....). Bottom line: if you want to go big at the buffet and it's Korean flavor you crave, Palace BBQ Buffet is the place to be. Good in a bad way....

Hot Buffet worth it, cold buffet.. not so much, some things were decent. Avoid the tuna salad sushi. My sum-up: Spacious Clean Yummy Variety

We went on a Sunday evening so it was $28 each. That's usually pretty pricey for the typical Asian buffet, but if you consider it's more like a Brazilian steakhouse in that you get unlimited meat, it's actually priced pretty decently. If you go there for a weekday lunch it's only $16, which I think is an excellent deal. So you come in, get seated at a table with a grill in the middle, the server takes your drink order and brings a plate of lettuce and your utensils. Then you're free to go up, explore the hot buffet, the cold buffet, and check out the meat selection. They have several kinds of beef, pork, chicken and seafood. I thought the BBQ beef at the end was the best, although I didn't even try half the selection there. Make sure you grab both a plate for the raw meat, and another clean plate to put your cooked meat on! I found a bowl of rice also works well for keeping your cooked meat hot while you're flipping the other pieces. The cooking is actually pretty fun, and it smells delicious! Even when we weren't cooking our own meat, you could smell the grilled goodness coming from surrounding tables. The one bad thing about cooking your own food is that your shirt ends up smelling like grilled meat afterwards, so don't plan on a job interview or anything directly after eating here. The hot buffet food was not as great as the cook-your-own-meat. I tried an egg roll and it was pretty cool and bland, and a couple other small samples from the hot section, but it all seemed really under temperature and old. The cold buffet food was great though. I loved the seaweed salad, various kimchi selections, sweet and sour radish slices, and they also had a sweet rice punch and a cinnamon punch available there. The maki rolls were typical buffet fare . If you want something sweet for dessert, they had a variety of fresh fruit including strawberries, pineapple and melons. They also had a line of soups along the back, but I figured I had enough. I thought the whole experience was a lot of fun, and all the food I tried (except for the hot buffet selection) was really great. It's a bit on the pricey side though, so I think next time I come back I'll do a late lunch, fill up on Korean BBQ, then just skip dinner.

it's a buffet place, if you were expecting 5 stars then hit up the ones in vegas. It's just a spot to fill up on fairly seasoned proteins and food meant to be cranked out quickly. If you're hungry I recommend going here for lunch, cheaper and just slight differences between dinner. Don't be afraid to flag down someone the minute you see them cause really you're not going to get any service being timid there.

We did not eat here. We had a 6 year old and a 9 year old with us. Most of the meat was raw. And there was a gas barbecue lit in the middle of our table. We still plan to try this place. But, NOT with young children. They should probably put something on their menu indicating that there is a gas barbecue in the middle of the dining table.

Hands down one of the best Korean BBQ places in the Bay Area.. Be ready to get on some serious food coma. If you go during the weekends for dinner, there is a wait but it is totally worth it. It is best to come for dinner (limited selection of meats during lunch). My boyfriend loves coming here..loves it so much that we normally drive approximately 30 minutes just to come and eat here. I must say, meats are perfectly marinated and they have a wide selection of side dishes. I love the baby octopus available in the buffet and the short ribs. I really like the marinated pork, super flavorful and they have so much more. We will certainly continue coming here every time the Korean BBQ cravings hit us again.

Was here for mother's day and it was the BOMB! Their meats were so tender, seafood was good too but we were here for the kalbi and it was heaven. There were other korean side dishes, dont expect any good desserts just some fruit may be 2 kinds of fruit and a soft serve vanilla ice cream, but you dont come here for dessert anyway.. right? Overall it was superb! I will surely be coming back.

For the past decade, if you wanted the best Korean BBQ buffet in the Bay Area, you pretty much were coming to Palace BBQ. This place was a monopoly in NorCal, and actually was pretty decent. That was before I had Korean BBQ buffets in SoCal. After realizing that it costs half the price down south, and the selection is much larger, I'm saddened by the lack of quality up north. Palace BBQ Buffet right near the intersection of Lawrence Expressway and El Camino Real. If you're coming here for dinner, or even lunch, parking here can get a little hectic due to the supermarket next door. However, once you find parking, you're pretty much right in the money. For lunch, prices are just around $18 a person, while dinner will run you $10 more. Once you get seated, then it's pretty much a free for all. Grab a plate, and get straight to the buffet aisles where you can choose from 8-10 types of meat ranging from: pork, chicken, beef, brisket, squid, and tongue. For those that come here for dinner, you get the mighty addition of the short rib. That sounds pretty amazing right? As far as taste goes, everything is a tad on the sweet side for me. That's not to say that I won't eat it, but you can even taste the sugar in their spicy pork. The quality of the meat is acceptable, but when compared to other buffets like Road to Seoul or Hae Jong Chon, Palace BBQ just doesn't quite stack up. What gets me when you compare this place to those in SoCal or even Yakiniq is the lack of selection. When you're paying $27 a person for dinner, I expect to get a much wider variety of meats as opposed to just having the addition of short rib. Service here is pretty attentive. If you need your grill changed, then just holler and they'll slap on a brand new one ready for grilling. For those coming here for birthdays, then make sure you come with at least a party of 4 because you need 3 paying customers to get a free meal for the birthday boy/girl. Palace BBQ, I will still come to you. For lunch, $18 actually isn't too bad. However, the selection is mediocre, and the meats are a little on the sweet side. With the addition of Yakiniq in San Jose, and other spots popping up, there leaves the patrons another option to go with. Nonetheless, Palace BBQ Buffet will always have the title as the originator in Northern California.

The four of us ate here on a Saturday afternoon. Their prices vary based on the day you visit, but you can see the prices you'll pay on a gold colored sign near the front register podium at the time and day you arrive. The place had about fifteen people waiting but we only waited about eighteen minutes to get a table. Not bad. Note: If you have a respiratory disorder, then this may not be the place for you to be since the air in this entire eatery is filled with cooking smoke. Your clothes will smell like BBQ meat when you leave this place, so be advised in advance. *The meats are all high quality and fresh. *The service is not too bad. *Great dessert selection. The space and elbow room around here is very good. You won't feel cooped up or claustrophobic in this place. Very spacious and roomy for comfortable dining unlike many other buffet places I've experienced. Like I said though, the environment a bit smokey in here! This is a great place for large family buffet style authentic Korean BBQ dining. We loved this place and will be back next month.

I used to come here a lot with friends because it used to seem like a good deal; I came back here again few days ago with my husband and it changed my impression at this place. They used to have the long ribs comes with the big bone (which was the only thing that my husband and I were looking forward to), but they don't have it anymore and still charge the same price ($26.50 per adult). Since we were already seated so we just let it and hoping the small ribs they served were as good, but I was wrong. I had their shrimps, squid, pork belly, pork tongue, beef in thin slices, gizzards and some ribs; my husband only had the ribs for the entire night. The shrimps were not fresh, it has some weird taste to it, other stuff were ok - just average food that you're get at any buffet. The ribs - we thought they were quite good when we were at the restaurant, but as soon as we got home (15min after we're done eating there), our stomachs were acting up like crazy; not sure which food caused it but my husband had been hitting the toilet for the entire night and the morning of the other day. Service? There was none. We'll not come back here again.

This is a really fantastic place to get your korean bbq fix. It's an all you can eat buffet with a whole aisle full of meat. My favorites were the short ribs, the bbq beef, and the spicy pork. Even though it's an Asian buffet, which are notorious for being low in quality (hence the piling of crablegs and the like), everything I had here was extremely delicious. At $30/person, you quickly eat it all back if you just focus on the meats. They also hand out plates of lettuce and this spicy sauce, so you pile the rice, sauce, and grilled meat onto the lettuce and enjoy! But really you can eat it however you want. If the grill starts getting charred and cancerous, ask them to change it for you. I haven't figured out exactly how the drinks and everything works because I'm used to just drinking water with these kinds of meals, but it might be included in the meal.

My first time trying this place was on my 22nd birthday!!! All my friends rave about how awesome this place, and it truly is! Let's start with the Pros!! PROS There is a good amount of food options here. Picky eaters like my mom and I found all kinds of things to munch on and cook. The meat is sooooooooo flavorful. They marinate it so well!!! Really fun dinning experience for the whole family. My parents never been to a restaurant where you get to cook! Very clean place. Most buffets are really dirty and messy, but this place was very neat. The bus boy was really nice and took are plates as soon as he saw them, and he gave us a new grill when we asked. Very well stocked. Not once did I have to ask a worker to bring out more of their selections. CONS!!! THIS PLACE IS EXPENSIVE $$$$$ The food is awesome but it almost $30 a person for dinner. You do eat free for your birthday but you must have a party of 4 *including the birthday person with a valid CA id 4 drinks was $10!!!!! The food labels are really small. Make sure you read what everything is! The server rarely came to our table. The bus boy was more helpful than she was!!! They only gave us one pair of tongs and one pair of scissors for the meat. My mom is super clever and hunted down another pair so everyone could eat happily. If it's more than two people you need two sets of tongs and scissors. Be prepared to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes in line. This place is always packed from what I have heard. I do highly recommend this place! I wouldn't eat here often though due to it's price. However, if you are craving Korean BBQ come here!

I use to come here years ago, and it was a really good all you can eat place for lunch. This is my first time back in years and I noticed the lunch meat selection has changed. The Korean short ribs are no longer available along with a few other meats. They told me it's only available for the dinner menu. That was the only reason I came here, so in my opinion the lunch is not worth it at all. I had the spicy pork, spicy chicken, and sliced brisket. None of it really stood out, and the brisket was so tough it felt like shoe leather (I ended spitting it out, so I can't even tell you what it tastes like).

I usually have good experiences at Korean BBQ places, but this is the worst customer service I've experienced at a restaurant. I've attended to my friend's graduation party expecting to indulge a great amount of meat and left very unsatisfied and paid $30 for 1 plate of meat. We were seated at 9pm and they closed at 10pm, that was our bad for not having enough time to cook and eat our food, but DAMN, did they have to keep rushing us to cook our food. The check came early while we were eating, and we had to scramble for our wallets w/ our saucy fingers just to pay for the check right away. The waitress came back like 3-5 minutes for the check....while were still trying to get situated about paying the tab. Staff was very rude and unpleasant. We had a plate of raw spare ribs to still cook and needed a new grill to cook on. OH EM GEE about the grill! The grill sucks! It's a small rectangular grill about the size of the meat plate. The grill didn't last us very long, it got burnt very fast. When we were asking for a new one the 2nd time around, the waitress says they are closed now and refused to bring out another grill. Then we asked what about the plate of raw meat, the waitress goes "you can bring it home".....You have no idea how awkward and silent the party was. We sarcastically asked "you want us to bring home raw meat?" Then the lady unprofessionally commanded one of the waiters to bring out a grill. I don't know how they treat their employees, but showing that kind of behavior in front of customers is very unprofessional. Finally, the grill came out and the waitress told us to cook whatever we can eat, mind you, we planned to eat everything. So we placed the spare ribs on the grill as much as we can. There were some raw pieces left on the plate, when all of a sudden the waiter that replaced our grill snatched up the plate of raw meat and ran off with it, with a quickness, even when we said we were still going to eat it. Someone wanted to get knocked the eff out! I had my cousin and my bf on standby, but we were civil because 1.) My friend's mom was there 2.) We didn't want to ruin the grad party with violence(not like it wasn't ruined already!). On a side note, the waiters took one of the party member's plate of food while she was eating off of it WTF!!! At this point we all wanted to leave the damn meat cooking on the grill and bounce, but my friend's mom asked the waitress if they wanted to wait for us to finish eating or take the food to go. The only nice thing that happened in this whole horrific event was them letting us bring home the food. The only good thing about this place is that there was a good variety of meat, but they did not restock on the meats that was running low. Would I recommend this place to anyone? HELLS TO THE NO! Would I eat here again? NEVER AGAIN! FIRST AND LAST TIME!

Thank God that a place like Palace BBQ exists! All you can eat Korean BBQ? Yes please! The strong point of this place is that it has a lot of different variety of Korean BBQ meats. Not only do they have gal-bi (short ribs), bul-go-gi but they have spicy pork, pork belly, teriyaki chicken, spicy chicken, and even spicy squid! They have various other Korean side dishes, dessert, and fruit. They even have mussels, some sushi, and ocean salad. The quality is on point. Definitely love this place and would come back to it. Why does San Jose have such awesome food!
