They have very nice decor inside. Great setup they got here for a cafe. It's very spacious. Check out their menu. They serve much more than coffee. They've got breakfast, sandwiches, gelato, pastries, desserts, and more. I was in rush, and got an espresso to go. They ask if you want your order for here or to go, because they serve you with nice dishes and cups if you order for here. Next time I swing by I'll stay and chill. Great place. Sorry, I don't have any pix to post. But you got to check it out. I hope this is helpful.

I had the nutella crepes and thai bubble tea. The boba in the tea were really chewy and probably one of the best bobas I've had in tea, but it could have been sweetened. There was also too much ice. The crepe was delicious and it was also chewy and had just the right amount of nutella. Service was quick and the atmosphere was calm and a great place to work and focus.

Bean Scene is located in the most hip, happening area in a teenie, tiny downtown strip in Sunnyvale. I wish Bean Scene would stay open longer. Darn you, Sunnyvale! *shakes fists* The coffee isn't anything TOO special, but the really friendly workers and cute area make up for it. The boyfriend and I were craving an affogato and were disappointed that The Bean Scene didn't have it on their menu. Being the genius Silicon Valley geeks that we are (NOT!), we ordered a makeshift affogato with their gelato and black coffee. Twas' muy deeelish! We were very proud of ourselves that day.

I love going to this place! It's like a safe heaven! The character Bean Scene has can't compare to any chain coffee shop like Starbucks. The people that frequent this place are from all walks of life, and it's wonderful to see people from all backgrounds. The staff is friendly and always helpful! This is my place where I can sit down and draw.

I stumbled upon this small coffee shop and was immediately enticed by the 2pm deal- a small drip coffee and pastry for $2. The first time I came in I ordered a bran muffin (super delicious!) and a small, black iced coffee. A few weeks later I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by and order my muffin and iced coffee; sadly, though, I was informed that this offer only applies to a small HOT coffee (even though the sign plainly says "small coffee" with no specification as to temperature). I explained to the barista that I ordered it before and still was told no. I was tempted to take the stupid hot coffee and ask for a cup of ice but was too tired to put in the effort. Long story short, the macadamia nut coffee is good and there is plenty of seating for hipsters on laptops or old people playing chess and such. Though the friendly factor needs to be upped by the employees, this seems like a decent place and good for hanging out.

My daughter brought me in, and we've definitely enjoyed the atmosphere. Comfy chairs, comfy couches overall, neighborly welcoming. The coffee is ok, the Barista is really nice, the prices are fair. All in all, come, enjoy welcoming scene, free Wi-Fi and support Sunnyvale's downtown

Maybe I came on an off day (Saturday morning) but service wasn't friendly and a regular just straight up cut me in line. Coffee is good though. Better service at coffee & more just down the street (less than 30sec. walk away). But this place seems like a decent place if you're retired and a regular. I'll come back in a few facades..?

Wonderful little cafe on Murphy Ave to enjoy great coffee, sit outside and watch interesting people go by. The latte was quite good and was served in a nice mug. Wish I known about the free wifi... now, I that I do, it will be even better.

Just say no. This place needs to get it's act together. Customer service is lazy. I am more than disappointed with the uncaring attitude, poor customer service and general apathy toward customers. I wanted to support a smaller, local and non chain place. I have patronized them for a long time, and put up with sub par bubble teas and stale princess cakes. I wrote poor experiences off as a one time mishap. No more. I had a terrible experience here, and their indifference and apathy seems to be a chronic issue and can't be attributed to being an 'off day'. My experience here was horrendous. If you are considering catering an event with them, please reconsider. This Monday, I was responsible for organizing a back to school coffee morning for parents at our school. The event started at 8 am. I was debating about where to get the coffee from - Starbucks or here - and after calling and speaking with one of the employees decided to give them a shot even though it was a little further from my home. They had offered to provide me regular and decaf coffee in insulated urns, as well as all cups, creamers, sugars, stirrers, napkins etc. I called them a couple days before the event to confirm all the details, and I was assured that all would be ready by 7:30 am on Monday morning, and they would help load everything into my car..... So, I show up on Monday morning, after making stops at the donut shop and other places I had ordered stuff from, and the person at the counter says it will be a while because I did not call in advance....she had no idea what I was talking about. I gave them the name of the employee who took my order etc - still no idea. There was much scrambling, phone calls made etc... they started to scramble to get things together and I had to run up and down the store making sure things were OK. Needless to say they did not remember to add cups or creamer - so I reminded them. Was charged extra for cups. They were not sure about the amount to prepare so I had to come up with instructions on what they needed to do. 25 minutes later, I loaded the car myself. As I drive off, one of the coffee urns was not correctly closed, so have a huge spill in the car. Needed to pull over and clean, rearrange etc. Show up 30 minutes past the start of the event with 50 caffeine deprived folks just pacing and waiting for their coffee. Talk about stressful! With the spill, we ran out of coffee, so I had to spend the rest of the morning running to and from the kitchen brewing little pots and heating water for tea. They forgot to add a pump to one of the urns so the coffee would not pump out. Disaster. So disappointed with this place. I was stressed, disappointed and my pristine car has huge coffee stains. Not a single word of apology. I went back to return the urns - no apology, explanation, offer of refund, question about how the event went. They had my number.... but nobody called me to discuss or apologize. Terrible customer service. So disappointed. Stick to Starbucks. I have catered coffee events from Sbux in the past and it has been a smooth, efficient and painless process. I am sure if there was such a major screw up they would have issued an apology and a refund if not more. This place needs to get it's act together and start giving a damn about customers. Sunnyvale, please it's time for a new coffee shop. Philz?

After strolling around the Sunnyvale farmer market on a Saturday, we stopped at Bean Scene for a coffee and breakfast. This place was pretty crowded and we waited in line to place our order. We ordered fresh brew coffee, white mocha and a breakfast $3 (egg scrambles & cheese) with a croissant. And after waiting for a few minutes, we found a table. When the order was ready, they called our names and we picked up our things from the counter. Mocha was actually good. And the breakfast was decent. I wouldn't necessary recommend their breakfast menu; but coffees are good!

I like this place because: 1. It's in the downtown 2. It has a rusty look inside 3. Plenty of seating inside and out 4. They have a large menu I wouldn't consider free wifi as a plus since almost every coffee shop provides that now. I like that the place never gets too crowded, so it's kinda nice to sit here and enjoy your coffee. I would definitely come here over and over again.

Great coffee! Cheaper and better quality then Starbucks, good sweets and a cozy little shop. Service is always friends and quick, hardly a wait and definitely a locals usual spot. For decent affordable cup of Joe, stop gy he Bean Scene.

I love Murphy Street, the farmers market is here and it is great to have a relaxed cozy place to sit and have coffee and dessert. I love little coffee shops like the Bean Scene. We came to the Bean Scene to get some iced coffee and view the artwork displayed painted by a personal friend. I had forgotten why I rarely frequent there. I think I might be old fashioned. I don't get the tip thing. I tip generously when I tip, and I don't like to be prompted to tip. The last time I was there, there was a HUGE tip jar right in front of me. I had to maneuver around it in order to place my order. Then, because I paid by credit card, the guy aggressively had me view the tip page of the computer before finishing my transaction- which I found highly offensive. Today, we went and there was the giant tip jar again. We ordered, and the same thing happened only the computer wasn't so aggressively placed, it was gently turned toward me, revealing the tip and signature page. I didn't tip, and maybe it's me but the guy turned it around, viewed it and I thought I saw him grimace. This made me somewhat insecure about whether or not my drink would be tampered with. Tipping, for me, is an act of appreciation that the server went above and beyond service. T-to, I-insure, P-promptness. TIP. Not, Thank you for giving me the product I just bought so I wouldn't have to go behind the counter and make it myself. I don't see the tip-worthyness of that - especially with no friendliness, and practically shaking the jar in your face. My daughter disagrees, so yeah. I don't get it. But I do not feel comfortable with the way it was handled here. Twice now.

Sort of a three part review. Our order was for "to go" Drinks: We had an Iced Vanilla Latte and an Almond Cappuccino. I enjoyed my Iced Vanilla Latte. I like my drinks on the sweeter side and it hit the spot for me. My wife had the Almond Cappuccino but she felt that she's had better. She just wished the flavor of the almond was a little stronger. Food: My wife had a Lox Bagel. She didn't enjoy it as much as she wish she had. She gets a Lox Bagel quite often. But this time she found it not very fresh tasting. I had pancakes with scrambled eggs + ham + bacon. Eggs, ham and bacon weren't bad, though not great either. My main issue was with the pancakes. They definitely were not fluffy. They seemed rather tough or compressed? Those are the two words that come to mind as of now. Service: I definitely upvote for good, friendly service and usually do not downvote for bad service as people can just be having a bad day. Unless you're showing some absolute & unwarranted disdain for me or some other customer, or racist, I don't let it bother me so much. But back on point, I wish the person at this place who took our order had a more welcoming demeanor and less "order quick & leave quick yo" attitude. I did not downvote for our service.

First time here and was a little disappointed with my drink. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and my drink tested a lot like an iced coffee with creamer and vanilla. Only thing I fully enjoyed was the guava cake.

Granted, this review is for the bubble tea--the other patrons seemed to be enjoying their coffee and food just fine, so I assume everything else is likely good. Probably serves me right for ordering bubble tea from a coffee shop, but there wasn't anything else nearby showing up in my Yelp search (I'm not that familiar with this area), and bubble tea is what I was craving. I ordered the honeydew bubble tea here on my way to meeting a friend, as I was thirsty and hadn't really had much in the way of breakfast. To start, the pearls were unsweetened and a little underdone; for some, the former won't be a big deal and may even be something they like, but most of my friends and I prefer the sweetened tapioca pearls in our bubble tea. The underdone part was almost insult to injury, as the centers were a bit too solid and not really a nice kind of chewy. The honeydew drink portion was a bit weak in flavor as well. If I hadn't been thirsty and/or had had more time to find a better drink, I likely would have tossed it, but I had a schedule to keep and decided to sleep in the bed I'd made by choosing a bubble tea from Bean Scene. The rest of the menu looks fantastic for folks who don't have an egg allergy (ie. not me), and the guys behind the counter seemed to know what they were doing with making coffee, at least, so just steer clear of the bubble tea here. If bubble tea is what you're craving, go elsewhere.

The place is very cool during the week, easy going, lots of space, and relatively comfortable. On Saturday, during farmers market - a zoo..many people use, sadly, as a lounging area, occupying seats and crowding the place with kids, dogs, strollers, and other stuff. Saturday service, in spite of that, is great - very good, good flavors, timely, and polite. Outside Saturday, excellent.

Cafe Borgia Alert ;-) The Bean Scene is within walking distance from my house- however, I would still make a drive or train ride to downtown Sunnyvale to indulge in my fix. The atmosphere is very peaceful, a kick-back and stay for a couple hours kind of feel. The staff will engage in sparkling coffee shop conversation while quickly serving up a knock out drink. They keep the shop and bathroom areas very clean. You will never be rushed out, under the coffee table in the front/bookshelf area you will find several board games and a newspaper/magazine collection. They have several different seating options, from the checkers for two table, a squish over sized leather couch for 4, Breakfast at Tiffany's velvet chair window section, and the wonderful front patio "people watching" section. They have a good selection of specialty coffee house drinks, including my favorite Cafe Borgia ;-) They also offer bubble tea/milk drinks, and a huge loose tea selection. The cakes and pastries within the case look amazing, but I have never indulged past my Cafe Borgia sin.

Really nice place to come and chat over a cup of coffee or study. Great atmosphere and decently priced drinks, quality is okay but A+ for environment.

The breakfast "special" seemed a little pricey for what it was (croissant with egg/cheese). Small vanilla latte was larger than I expected. Everything was good though. The area is nice and quite. Plenty of seating in and outdoors. I'll have to come back and try a pastry or cheesecake

Bean Scene has been a go-to place for studying, working, and writing for me for the past 5+ years! Whether I order a hot tea or an entire meal, I enjoy the customer service and interactions with Kenny and the crew. I love that this place is a gathering spot for 'regulars' who may have been coming here for decades. And come in on a weekday or weekend, and you'll get a glimpse that it is also a spot for meetings, interviews, brunches, family outings, and social visits. Good quality, affordable offerings, free wifi, and a comfortable atmosphere make Bean Scene feel like a home away from home---and have made it one of my favorite local spots!

Not very nice service. Nearly rude. Café latte very unimpressive. I have a hard time understanding why it was so packed except that it is the only breakfast place open on Sunday morning in the neighbourhood.

Great coffee and personalized customer service. This cafe has that small town atmosphere in a city with a population over 120k.

Came here for a cup'o'joe with a friend. We both ordered the almond latte. I couldn't really detect any hint of almond flavour...maybe it was weak or my palette isn't as advanced. The coffee itself was deep, yet not too strong (I don't like strong coffee taste). I didn't try anything else, but they do have plenty of baked goods and other foods available. Smoothies too. I'd like to come back and try other things in the near future. Pros: -fivestar rewards! -Plenty of menu items to choose from. -Free wifi! -Great service -Fast

Eh, it was OK. It wasn't super bad, but it wasn't the best either. I like that it's open until 8 PM on weekdays. I like the free WiFi option as well as the games in the store. Coming to mediocre/bad points: the tables aren't "cleaned up" as fast as we'd like. There are cups from the previous people on the tables and I'm pretty sure it's not a self-service cafe.. So it's kind of gross to see others' cups on the table. I got the hot chocolate and it tasted like Nesquik.. If I wanted Nesquik, I would've made it at home but anyways, like I said the place was OK. :)

Right in the heart is of Murphy Ave, a group of us stopped by to get our coffee fix. We placed our orders, each with some specification of extra hot, low fat, flat, etc. The barista Nuraan was all by herself but had the most pleasant attitude. Every order was just perfect! My coffee was very good and everyone in our group seemed to be pleased with their drinks. It seemed to get rather busy while we were there but Nuraan stayed her pleasant self. Commendable!! They seemed to have a great selection of pastries but we did not order any. I recommend this place but think they need more staff to accommodate the crowds. There is only that much one person can do!

This place is great. If you are looking to do work or enjoy a small pastry this is the right place to visit. Great background music. The speaker is not turned up too high so you can make phone calls, and also meet a friend for coffee. Weak Internet connection. Parking during the evening is unlimited. Limited to three hours during business hours. I am very happy to discover this location.

  • Leslie H.

Super chill and cozy coffee shop in the heart of Sunnyvale's downtown. The location is great, but the parking can be a pain, just as it is for the rest of the downtown, but you can usually find a spot in the Macy's parking lot and just walk a little to Murphy Street. I stopped by on a wet and overcast weekday around 11. Almost all of the tables were taken with patrons on their laptops sipping coffee and having quiet conversations. They also have a front corner with a living room type setup. They have a cozy couch and love seat and coffee table. This is a great spot to hunker down with your latte and a good book. I liked the fact that there were so many electrical outlet strips distributed throughout the small cafe. And they provide free wi-fi! It was a bit spotty at times, but the proprietors were kind enough to offer to reset it when it was acting up. I'm not really a coffee person, but I was meeting a friend here, and felt bad sitting there without buying something too. The Bean Scene's menu is very diverse though, offering hot and cold drinks as well as smoothies. And they have bakery items in their case as well as offering freshly made crepes and sandwiches too! So I went with a toasted everything bagel with butter for about $1.60. I wasn't terribly hungry, but it was tasty and hit the spot and perfect for sharing. I definitely recommend The Bean Scene to anyone looking for a cool place to do some work while you are around people without being too distracted. I'll be back.

I went to Bean Scene after having lunch across the street. In the showcase, there was a variety of cakes and I decided to try out the mango cake and princess cake. I really enjoyed the mango cake and thought the flavors were unique. The princess cake (totally love the name) doesn't live up to its name. The thick pink fondant on the cake was way to sugary and the cake tasted like a jelly roll. Im pretty sure an actual princess would probably not like it. The cake itself looked pretty but again it wasn't tasty. My coworkers loved their chocolate cake and cheesecake. I'd probably come back here to try their other offerings if Im in the area. Overall, a decent bakery but nothing to really rave about it.

  • Sandy L.

I love the chocolate eclairs here! Delicious chocolate cover pastry filled with custardy goodness for only $3.75. Their coffee isn't bad too, cheaper and better than starbucks. My only complaint is, sometimes the pastry display cabinet looks empty like they are running out of stuff = saaad panda. A lot of people station themselves on the comfy couches and tables to use the free wifi. It's a nice and laid back coffee shop conveniently located in downtown Sunnyvale.

4 stars for drinks and ambiance, 3 stars for food. Great place to stop by for coffee or tea. I've tried their food, and it's just ok but their drinks are pretty good. I do like some of their pastries, including their chocolate eclair. I love the ambiance in that it seems like a really chill, laid back place. You could come here with your kid(s) or with friends or by yourself and it would feel comfortable. It could get crowded during the Sunnyvale farmer's market hours, but it feels great to find a spot, sit, and relax for a bit with a chai tea latte, affogato, or cafe au lait. Those are my 3 faves from there. Their chai tea latte is super flavorful!

There is really nothing special about this place. Just your typical coffee house that serves coffee, bake goods and sandwiches. My fiance and I came here on a Friday evening looking for some cappuccinos. I ordered the almond cappuccino and it was one of the best I ever had! I could not say the same to the almond cake. It was too dry and the cream was flaky therefore falling off the cake. I will next time try the crepes or sandwiches here and write an update. It seems pretty popular.

Love their coffee. The food is good, Especially one I always order, the Portabello sandwich on panini bread with a side garden salad. Alittle messy but..sooo good! ^_~

Bad service, good Sandwich! After getting out of a meeting and waiting for my train to come I went in to grab a quick bite! Outside it looked busy with all tables used up! Inside it was pretty much empty! Quickly I didn't feel welcomed! There was no greet! While I looked at the menu deciding what I wanted I was ignored! I waited for the cashier to finish making a drink and finish his conversation about the soccer game that was on. I walked up and I was the one who had to greet him!!! I gave him my order and paid. While waiting you can quickly tell the cashier welcomed more his regulars as someone came in and gave her her usual drink! The guy who ended up giving me my order didn't even say "Here you go" or "thank you"! Blank silence! First time here and will not return! I chose the chicken salad Sandwich on wheat with fruit! I was good and filling for its price! Too bad tho if it wasn't for the really bad customer service I would return since I do have monthly meetings in this area! I don't care if its open late for a coffee spot ill rather go sit in one of the many bars in the area! Since I Work in the same food service I am usually very understanding but this place was completely uninviting!

Delightful, mellow place. I've stopped in for coffee several times in the past, but today I enjoyed lunch while waiting for my car to finished across the street. I had a portobello mushroom sandwich and salad, and it was awesome. Really nice. Coffee is great and the atmosphere is calming. The back door to Sunnyvale Av is convenient; and I enjoyed the art that was offered as well. I'll for sure return. :-)

Eh, I've definitely had better coffee. The first time I was here, I didn't much enjoy my latte. There wasn't anything special about it. I also tried a savory ham and cheese crepe, which was just okay. The service was subpar as well. I doubt they were trying to be rude, but they were definitely not the most friendly. Second time here, I really don't think I'll be coming back. I ordered a latte with almond milk, which I've had before at other places and yes it can be quite amazing. This was just bad. The espresso had definitely been pulled for way too long because there was just this shocking bitterness that I could not get over. The almond milk also tasted slightly burnt. My mom didn't seem to enjoy her latte either, apparently she couldn't taste much of her espresso. I'm not sure what happened there because the same person made our drinks. Also, the service this time was pretty much the same...not super friendly. And at a coffee place, half the time I believe you're paying for at least a smile from the barrista's.

This was quite a disappointment. We ordered the Blackforest Mocha and a regular Mocha. Both were quite diluted. My mocha was basically only warm milk.

this place gets pretty loud and crowded quickly. i come here to study and can only find adequate seating at a table before 8 am, even during the week. their breakfast set (eggs with melted cheese, bacon, and a toasted croissant) is delicious and priced decently. i am sad they don't have their "ALMOND JOY" MOCHA anymore. the next best thing i get is the BLACK FOREST MOCHA. a gripe i have about this place is the parking situation. its kind of a hassle since it is on Murphy street in downtown sunnyvale, but it is in an area of great restaurants. it is also kind of a pain to find an available outlet since they are all along the wall and i don't want to have people tripping over my cord, especially if they are older (predominant population of this place). overall this place is an alright joint to hang out at, not super great for studying.

  • Chas A.

I'm a fan of their Almond Cappuccino! They offer pastries of all kinds. I have yet to try their breakfast selection. Inside there are a lot of tables and chairs to chill alone to read or hang with friends. They offer free Wi-Fi which is great if you want to study or go onto the internet with your laptop. I like how they also offer tables and chairs outside for you to sit. This is especially great if you want to bring your furry friend along with you while you get a cup of coffee and/or a snack. As for the service...it's friendly and quick!

Back while I was living in Sunnyvale, I'd drop in now and again to The Bean Scene for coffee & breakfast. There's plenty to like here: - Good coffee for a local coffee shop. - Free WiFi access. - Lots of food options. I've had a ham & cheese crepe & a couple of sandwiches on different occasions and they've all been good. That said, this place becomes a bit chaotic during the Sunnyvale Farmers Market. It seems EVERYONE in Sunnyvale congregates here during the market, so it grinds service to a near-halt. On top of that, while they have plenty of seating during the week, you're likely going to have to wait around for a seat on Saturday mornings. So, skip the food unless you want to be holding a plate & standing around (this literally happened to me there before). So, this place gets three stars for the good stuff. I really hope they can sort out the issues they face during the farmers market, because I really want to like this place.

Great latte! Their coffee doesn't have that bitter edge that most coffee shops do. Smooth all around. I also like the work atmosphere. It's a Silicon Valley joint, where you may hear deals and tech ideas floating around.

Best wifi available, better than cafes in Mountain View, cheaper too, with a variety of edibles, also inexpensive. Lots of seats to work, inside and out, plugs for charging. On Murphy Street with good restaurants and bars. Ice cream, crepes (love the nutella and banana crepe), salads, sandwiches, cake, health bars, etc. But I come to work and for the wifi. I've looked around and few places have decent wifi. I find the people that work here nice. I prefer the honest hello, not a fake "How are you".

A metaphor for empty, half-completed downtown Sunnyvale as a whole: this place has so much potential to be so much more, but just... isn't... especially when you're a Sunnyvale resident, business owner, or city official looking wistfully at bustling downtown Mountain View not far away. A perfectly average coffee house with forgettable coffee drinks, sloooooow service, and an overall tired look. Still, a somewhat generous 3 stars (a "passing" grade in my book) because it's clearly a favorite hangout for local residents and businessmen - casual enough where you can feel just as comfortable playing backgammon or studying as you can talking business. Although the regular food offerings are of the wrapped microwaveable variety, the desserts and baked goods are surprisingly good. I enjoyed the creme brulee cheesecake so much that I went back for it on multiple days. I now have the extra abdominal flab to prove it. With decent foot traffic on Murphy Street, a location next to always-popular Dish Dash (perhaps the best restaurant in Sunnyvale), and an untapped population of young professionals nearby (I was surveyed by a mobile app developer testing her user interface), this cafe could be so much better and livelier. Like the hollowed-out shell of downtown Sunnyvale, however, this place just seems lost in time.

When we are looking for some delicious coffee at a place where everyone will smile at baby, and the guy behind the counter will remember husband's name, we go to bean scene. When we're here we feel like we are home. It is one of those places where you are proud to be one of the regulars.

Coffee is coffee. I have been a Starbucks fan forever but during the farmers market today I tried a blended white mocha (basically a frapicino) made by the owner himself, Kenny, and it was far better than any I ever had at Starbucks or Petes! Kenny knows how to do it right! I am a Bean Scene groupie for life. I'll be back to try some of those home made pastries! See ya in the AM.

Honestly - the nicest vibe I've experienced outside of Europe. What the latte slightly lacks in flavor, it makes up for in sheer size and elegance (served in a gigantic decorated mug). Add to that the homiest, warmest atmosphere (adorable mix of chatty oldsters and chic bloggers), super comfy antiquey decor, and cheerful, personable service, and I am figuring out how to change my morning commute routine to be a regular here.

With its convenient location, cozy atmosphere, and extensive selection of food and drinks, Bean Scene is a great place to hang out. It's a great place to do work or study; there are tons of tables, lots of outlets, and free wi-fi, But if you're looking for standout coffee, food, and drinks to fuel your work session, Bean Scene falls way short. There is a generous selection of coffee, teas, smoothies, and sweet and savory pastries to choose from. In spite of the many options, all of it is pretty lackluster. As for the service, it's SLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW. ...so slow that my husband and I left peeved enough that we decided to never come back.

I don't know why I have never stepped into this place before?!?! especially since I am from Sunnyvale! wth? I cam here yesterday since I usually go to the farmers market almost every sat with the fam. The first thing I noticed, was the layout and decor of the cafe. The feeling of this cafe had this community loving feeling which was amazing! There were soo many locals and since this is a family owned cafe, kids were running around and SV natives were chit chatting with the owners. They serve gelato straight from gelato classico; Mountain View, breakfast crepes, brunch, soo much variety of coffee from Europe and Hawaii, italian sodas, and more! I ordered their Almond Cappuccino which was the best one Ive had soo far! It is cheaper than Barefoot and Starbucks by a buck and a half and their vegan pastries are delish!! We also had the creme brulee gelato which tasted exactly like the real thing. The prices are better, the taste is better, the vibe is better, etc. I have finally found my new home to study and relax with people! :)) I'm definitely coming back!

Written 8/12 Drove down Murphy twice before I could find a coffee shop. Lots to love, but the place needs a serious make over. Toss the TV, loyalty card sign up, racks of commercial real estate slicks, shelves of business cards, advertising LCD picture frame, ATM machine, silk plants, God Bless America on the garbage lid, embroidered polo shirts and dim lighting. The name Bean Scene is awesome. Remake the place with more mirrors like the 2 by the TV and go for the coffee society be seen socializing crowd. Love that they have a few signature drinks like calling a Raspberry Mocha a Black Forest. Love that they use real mugs, plates and silverware. The chairs are amazingly comfortable and the street patio seating makes the place look happening.

The interior is nice and roomy, and there's free wifi. Unfortunatelym the coffee is terrible and I've had generally bad service here. It's not that the people are actively rude, but like mentioned in a few other reviews, they are just completely uncaring.

Comfortable chairs, decent free wifi, good enough drinks and a diverse menu. Friendly staff!

I come to this place pretty regularly since I work nearby, and the best thing about it is the friendly service. The staff are all really friendly and always in a good mood. They know the regulars, which is nice. The ambiance is also great - lots of tables and chairs to sit at, and the outdoor seating is really nice. Unfortunately, I have found the internet to be spotty, so I wouldn't recommend trying to get a hard-core working session in here unless you have data tethering as a backup. I might just have had bad luck, but I've found it unreliable the past few times I have been. Coffee-wise, it's Starbucks-style not Blue Bottle. The cappuccinos and Americanos are solid. I'm not a huge fan of the iced drinks - the iced cappuccino has too much foam, and the iced latte is too large - but a flavor shot (not usually my style) makes them better, if I'm craving something cold. I've tried a few items on the menu that have been pretty good - the breakfast crepe and salmon bagel in particular. They have a loyalty program - every 10 drinks you buy, you get 1 free.

This place serves coffee and food. The coffee is good and the food is tasty. My only complaint is the rushed feeling I get when ordering my food and the cramped space inside. So many people come to this place that the staff is often overwhelmed and flustered. Sometimes the staff can be a bit snappy if you are unsure of what you want - so first timers come with someone who has ordered here before. Every coffee shop has their own lingo and the Bean Scene has their own variety of drinks. I also feel like the small tables and tight quarters brings about chaos and anxiety in the customers. The worst thing for a customer is to have food and drinks but no where to sit. It really does suck and it happens to many of my friends. I personally go to Coffee and More to avoid this problem. The staff cannot fix this problem but maybe the management can. Here is an idea, maybe management can limit the amount of time people chill at the tables to help bring more customers in. This might be helpful on the weekends. I recommend this because I often hear my friends and potential customers say, "lets go somewhere else where it is not as crowded."

2.5 stars for lattes. I came in the first work day of the 2013 work week en route to Caltrain Sunnyvale. This sleepy cafe had a bunch of locals (mainly elderly folks) hanging out at 7:50 AM. I was super hungry and had an extra 10 mins to spare. I ordered a soy latte. Its barely drinkable. The drink is sour, dry and tastes way too watered down for it to be worth $3.20 for a small cup. Maybe I'm a coffee snob now that I work in SF but I was expecting way more. +1-star for fast, friendly service from Ken (overheard the locals greet him) and drink was made promptly. +1 for taking credit card since I was worried when I saw an ATM inside - a usual sign of cash-only establishments. Overall, I don't think I'll return since I'm moving out of the area. I definitely see this spot being a good study or chill cafe for those who are in the area but skip on the coffee or drinks.

Drove all the way from South San Jose to check out this cafe... and loved it. Arrived at 10 AM on a weekday (today, actually!) and it was already fairly crowded. Fortunately, a couple that leaving let me have their table as I was looking for a place to work on my laptop. The Nutella & Banana French crepe was served well and promptly. The staff was very kind and accommodating. I needed to juice up my laptop's battery asked if I can rearrange a table so I can be closer to the electric outlets. They gave me the green light without any hassle. Very cool and helpful. The customers were quite diverse too. Extroverts. Introverts. Geeks. Business folks. Everyone seemed friendly and considerate of others. Great ambiance. Will definitely come back.

Neat spot | Fan of their Menu $ Our friend who lives in the area took us to this place for breakfast. We ordered and sat on one of their cool couches :) We ordered a breakfast bagel (the egg and bacon one, of course!) and split a strawberry banana smoothie. It had really hit the spot. Their ingredients taste natural and fresh. I'd like to go back and try their other smoothies/juice blends. I really like the location that it's in. One thing I'd like to note is this funky table that turns into a desk when you lift the top. I would've never known if I didn't see this guy use it!! So, it is a great place to also work on your computer.

Before I hopped on a Cal Train I was in Downtown Sunnyvale at Philz grabbing a cup of coffee when they told me they were pretty much out of all breakfast items. To avoid turning into my "hangry" personality, I decided to wander into Bean Scene to check out their breakfast options. I ordered a breakfast burrito (eggs, sausage, cheese). Took about 5-10 min for it to come out so I got it to go for the train ride. It was a very solid breakfast burrito. Definitely very protein oriented (which I like), and although it was very simple it was pretty darn good. I will definitely be back to check out their coffee and other breakfast plates. Seems like a cute spot to grab breakfast on the weekends!

Go here for (in the order listed): 1. The pastries - incredibly yum! One of the few places which has pastries with marzipan fondant. (Note: selection changes daily) 2. Coffee - delicious 3. Ambiance - cool vibe + location in downtown Sunnyvale

I would say my first experience here gives it 5 stars ! I was going to go to Coffee&More which is like a 1 minute walk away, but since the sign on the door said it would close at 2PM today, I decided to come here instead. I was a bit wary about coming here since the yelp reviews made it seem like it would be packed, but it was only like 50% full so it was OK. I ordered a large almond joy with almond milk and a quiche and tipped 15% (cheapest preset on the iPad) and the total was $13.. I think the quiche was good but a little too rich and cheesy for me .. I liked the drink a lot though--especially because the mug is GINORMOUS! Larger than a large size I get at other places! Wifi speed is about 12 Mbps, which is OK despite the amount of people, since I think most laptop users are here to work and send emails and stuff. A good place for me to sit and watch Law and Order, lol..

Nice place, has a very hole in the wall vibe. Plenty of seating and some comfy couches if you get there at the right time. Coffee is good, staff is friendly, and it's comfortable to sit for a while and get some work done. I'm hoping the new Philz down the street doesn't steal too much of their business.

Sometimes when the night is winding down you need that small little pick me up to drive home. After Tarragon my body was saying almond milk latte. The ladies behind the bar were friendly and all of our orders (there were 4) were correct. Having lots of milk options was nice since I do not always want soy. Their almond milk is unsweetened which is a huge plus for me. In looking at the pastries I did a double take.. mango cake? some crazy layered cake? Where has this stuff been???? I must go back and investigate...More to be continued.

The coffee was tasty. They have several choices of brewed coffee with the tasting notes. I had one called mocha which said it had hints of wine. I didn't taste the wine though. I also had a lox bagel. There was plenty of salmon which was good. I had the cafe au lait. At this place, they give you the mug. You get your own coffee. Then you bring back the mug and they add the steamed milk.

-1: Asked for a mocha freeze without whipped cream, but they gave it to me with whipped cream. Which is always okay, cause people make mistakes, but the guy looked so annoyed when i asked him to remove it. Yo I'm your customer, cmon, at least fake a "im s

Need a toothpick with your coffee? Might seem silly but the last 2 times I came here, I had to get a toothpick to pop a hole in the coffee cup lid. This little hole may seem trivial but without it, it's impossible to get the coffee to sip out of the little slot. The batch of lids they got must be defective as that little hole never got punched through. As for the coffee, its excellent, some of the best I've had. I would have given them 5 stars if it wasn't for this stupid little hole issue. You don't think you need a toothpick with your coffee so the first time I had to wait till I got back to work before I could even take a good sip, the second time I was lucky enough that my friend happened to have one in the car. Moral of the story, yes, you need a toothpick to drink coffee out of the togo cups at bean scene...

Slow customer service, good coffee, regular sandwiches. I like the colorful tequila bottles collection and that there is always people more talking than attached to their smarphones, but that is pretty much it. They don't sell anything special not they treat you like a glorified customer that they are willing to waive hands when you trespass the door. Is just a nice place to hang out but there are many other gastronomic possibilities around. For coffee, teas, pastries, yes. In the epicenter of Murphy street.

I love the atmosphere of this little coffee shop. It's very cute and the staff is friendly. Prices are good. They have more food then a typical coffee shop. Pancakes for breakfast or hot sandwiches for lunch. It's a nice place to hang out. I love it.

The princess cake is meh: yelp.com/biz_photos/bean… it uses dry, stale cake inside. I've gotten spoiled by the princess cake at Bijan Bakery. Minus 2 stars because their Square Wallet pay-by-app isn't working.

This cafe had fantastic service. My mocha was created quickly and with a smile and pepped me up for the whole day. The space is a bit dark, and they don't carry almond milk, but I'd love to come back, this neighborhood is super cute!

I was looking to do some work outside of my apartment, and I decided i'd try out bean scene on a Saturday afternoon. It did it's job--had wifi, a menu you could expect, and a quaint interior. What really stood out to me, though, were the baristas. There was one girl who was very kind and seemed to be genuinely enjoying being there which seems soo rare these days. It's pretty much the reason I stay away from Starbucks and chains where they manufacture their workers. I'd probably come back if I were in the area. Thanks, Ann (hopefully that's her name?) for a great latte and conversation!

Came here with friends on a quiet Sunday. Downtown Sunnyvale is a wonderful place to hang around early on a Sunday afternoon; most of the restaurants are closed and this cafe wasn't too crowded either. I appreciate the variety in the coffee menu. Blackforest mocha anyone? Or an almond cappuccino? They also have the sugar free almond and it tastes (almost) just as good as the real thing. The only glitch in the service was that there was just one guy behind the counter mixing our drinks and it took a good twenty minutes for them to get to us. I would also prefer to sit the outdoor seating anytime. The ambience inside isn't too comfty and does not have the staying power of your neighborhood Starbucks.

Not great , not bad coffee either. Expensive. Espresso was good but Samosa pretty bad. After a second visit, I would still maintain my rating as it is. However, I had a lot of time to kill the second time, and this place wasn't too busy, so I spent an hour-ish there without much of a noise are anyone bothering me.

3.5 Stars. This is a ho-hum coffee joint. High marks for the laid-back ambiance with lots of comfy seating and free Wi-fi. Coffee is pretty mediocre though still a world above Starbucks. The food is decent and sandwiches are better than anything else on Murphy. With that said, they could get you food a bit faster.

Since my last review (below), I've been enjoying near weekly visits to this downtown Sunnyvale cafe each Saturday after the Farmers' Market. It's fun to run into friends with the same Saturday plan. I almost always get a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich either on a bagel or a croissant and a medium coffee -- either their Sunnyvale Select or decaf blends. Yes, you could say I've been a little obsessed with these breakfast sandwiches lately. Sometimes it is challenging to find an open table, but I think it really depends how early we arrive. Earlier = more tables. Also, when the tables are full, it's hard to maneuver in the tight space. I've found the staff friendly and the environment inviting. My opinion has definitely changed for the better since I was last here so long ago. Looking forward to next Saturday! ---- Previous review from 2009 that I had accidentally posted to Coffee & More's page (I mixed up the cafes by mistake): Not sure if I should review Coffee & More, since I didn't actually order anything, but my S.O., friends, and I tried going here after a too noisy dinner at DishDash Saturday so that we could actually talk. I was completely overwhelmed by a strong cleaning supply smell. While I appreciate that it was probably very clean inside, I don't know about you, but that's not what I want to smell when I'm about to have coffee and dessert. My friends and S.O. would have stayed if I didn't want to leave. I'm willing to try again another day and hope that they didn't decide to clean right before my arrival.

Cheers Sunnyvale style, without the drinking crowd. I've been here on weekends, when families gather for their weekend brunch. On weekdays, it's the SOHO office. In either case, the place is always packed. Use their app to order and save time. ( bean.moappo.com ) Just a friendly home-town place for the natives to gather, work, and talk. Love it.

An Iced Vanilla Latte from Bean Scene Cafe (or as I like to call it, the BSC) is more delicious than any other coffee drink I've had anywhere else. What BSC does so well is ensure that COFFEE is the predominant flavor tasted THROUGHOUT the duration of the experience. At Starbucks I often have to ask for only one pump of flavor or at other places the coffee tastes good at first but looses its coffee flavor toward the end. The BSC coffee is PERFECT. I walk my dog here all the time (you might see him, he's the adorable shepherd/husky mix). Service is quick, accurate, and friendly. Indoor seating is comfy, outdoor is very pleasant. I highly recommend this cafe.

I really enjoy this cafe. The place is spacious and has a lot to offer. It's got the following: 1. Great flavored coffee (usually switches daily and is always good); 2. Free wifi internet access; 3. Plethora of tea options (tea in the boxes behind the counter can be chilled into iced tea); 4. Variety of coffee options (e.g. freezes, blends, the regulars - cafe au lait, espresso, etc.); 5. Sandwich options and baked goods; 6. Outdoor sidewalk seating; and 7. Lots of tables! Very casual but one of my favorite coffee spots!

Good food for a good price! Its quaint and cozy. Gets busy in the evenings and weekends. But a nice little spot for college students, chatters and relaxers :) Love their vegetarian grilled sandwich! Their orange juice is as fresh as it can get! Gelatos are alaright, i have had better. Never been here before, never going back - we wanted a coffee and dessert badly - the place was mostly empty, looked nice, more personable than S*bucks. Two gents were behind the counter - My brother and I were completely ignored, as we waited, by the register, for 5 minutes with wallet in hand. They must work as a hobby.

No Starbucks. No time. Bean Scene it is. 5 stars for: - Barista guy helping me decide what to order - Chai Latte - good creaminess to it, not too strong of a chai flavor - Mocha - not too chocolatey sweet, which I love - Pretty cheap (small - $3.10, med - $4.20) - Quick service... guess I got lucky there was no wait! - I think I'll be here more often before my Caltrain comes, so I signed up for the Five Stars Card. (BUY 9, GET 1 FREE -- what. a. deal HAHA) Haven't tried any of the pastries, but if I do, maybe I'll give an update if you're lucky.

Walking down the street to The Bean Scene has become my Sunday morning ritual. I'd prefer to stay there and enjoy my coffee while using the free wi-fi, but it seems to be more of a social coffee shop rather than one filled with people on their computers. I can only handle so much noise when I'm trying to write so now I take my latte to go. Everything I've ordered has been fantastic except for the iced latte I had one day. The staff is nice and they have a "buy 9 get 1 free" card but you have to ask for one. They have a variety of breakfast options, pastries, and desserts but I have yet to indulge since I'm so virtuous on Sundays. peace, love, and good booze ~ chase

There aren't many places around here where you can get good quality organic coffee. Bean Scene didn't have any until I asked Kenny if he might be able to order some for me. He kindly obliged and even emailed me when the coffee arrived. Since then he's regularly stocked some organic coffee in the back in case I (or others) come looking for it. Now that's old-fashioned customer service! Bean Scene also has that classic coffee shop atmosphere: comfy seats, plenty of reading material, locals chatting over coffee, and of course your random programmer plugged into their computer. I haven't tried a lot of their edibles, because I normally come here just for the coffee, but you can find sandwiches, and other sweet and savory items. Oh, and they also have gelato. So, if you're looking for a relaxing place to work, visit, lunch, or get your organic coffee by the bulk to go, Bean Scene is where it's at.

Almond Joy Latte?!?! I love it! Cute little coffee shop in Downtown Sunnyvale and great place to chill at if you are waiting to be seated at DishDash. The coffee was really good (I won't say great until I've tried more) and they have soda and boba options as well. Nothing special about their green milk tea with boba, but it was nice that they had such a variety of options. Service is definitely friendly :) I'll totally come back!

With all the activity on Murphy st, you'd hope that there were more cafes in the midst. Bean Scene seems to have the monopoly on that they're good on a nice sunny day and you can loiter outside. Just wished they were open later than 9pm as an alternative to all the bars in the area. Solid chai and espresso drinks.

During the winter, we come on Sunday mornings, and the experience is awesome. During the summer, we are here on Saturday for the awesome weather and farmers market. The last two Saturday mornings were the first of the season, and visited the Bean Scene both times. The two women here just need to get into the groove. The lady ringing you up has no personality and has screwed my order up. When I walk away from her, I leave with a bad taste in my mouth. The other woman that takes orders as well and helps make the food...same thing here. Guys...the espresso drink guy...you rock. The best drinks, good personality. The other guy behind the counter making food...also awesome. Great food, smiles, and excellent service. The ladies, no thanks.

Pleasantly surprised! I'll tell you the truth... I recently moved here from Dallas, TX and have not been impressed with the food in this area. BUT, the Bean Scene was above my expectations. Great coffee, sandwiches and pastries. Most of all, very polite service with a smile. Thank you!

  • Aubrey C.

2.5 stars The Bean Scene has below-average coffee -- the lattes did not have enough flavor and a burnt, sour taste. The cafe also has food like sandwiches and desserts. I've had a couple, and they're alright.. nothing too special. The biggest advantage of this place is that it's right on Murphy Ave. near a lot of restaurants, so if you really NEED coffee, you can stop by. They also have free Wi-Fi, which might be the best thing about it, unfortunately.

Important question - Can i give negative stars? Ofcourse not - So lucky them. They have worst barista in world - I asked for white mocha - and he gave me 2 Ghirardelli white mocha pumps and creamer mixed with spoon ? :) I mean seriously! To top that - they served stale chocolate pastry. First time in my life i had to leave stuff half finished. It was that bad. I think i will be foolish to try them again ... So not sure what to say people who have rated it so high. I guess my bad luck.

I always go on Saturday mornings, so beware, my review is biased to farmers market traffic. That being said, it's always packed. But it's packed for a reason, their coffee is great! The food is ok, I'd like to see a bit more variety on the menu. All the baked goods I've tried are all delicious, including the cakes!

Lovely, charming little coffee spot in the middle of the downtown Murphy stretch. Free wifi, several outlet stations to plug into, reasonably priced coffee. The people are friendly and service is nice. Lots of food selection as well. While, admittedly, I still love my Starbucks iced coffee the best in terms of taste (coffee snobs be hatin'!), I also love supporting local businesses. As a writer i love finding cozy, relaxing spots like Bean Scene to sit down with some caffeine and get some work done. Avoid the lunch hour, DishDash gets ridiculously crowded and it spills over in front of and into Bean Scene. Parking is also pretty bad. But if you're in the neighborhood and parking isn't insane, duck into Bean Scene for a buzz!

  • Judy L.

location is great, though it is a little stuffy inside on a warm day, lattes are lacking the espresso punch, but it's fun to sit outside on farmer's market days to people watch while sipping a latte or tea :).

Carlos the barista made coffee for customers who ordered later than us. He turned around and made our coffee when we approached asking "How come the other couple got their coffee before us?" He seemed utterly embarrassed. Apologized and went out to make one of the best cup of cappuccino. The microfoam is amazing. Almost gave this place a 2-star. But he is all forgiven. On a separate note for majority of customers here...if you work for Apple, and we know you just got out of the work day, there is no need to show off your work tag. You place it near your belt hiding half way underneath your tucked out polo-shirt. Ok, we got it. You work for Apple. Fucking big deal. However pple like you have inspired me. I am wearing my Vons rewards card near my belt too. I don't work for Vons but I am showing off my purchasing power at Vons. Screw you too.

Came here to study/work with my friend and found it to be a very cozy, family-friendly environment. Since we had already picked up some coffee beforehand, we decided to try the pretty pink Princess cake they offer here. Not only does the cake look adorable, but it tastes delicious! Moist white cake layered with raspberry jam and light whipped frosting and covered in a thin pink layer of marzipan. Kind of makes you feel like a princess when you eat it...lol :) Am interested in trying their samosas out sometime...

Been to this place twice, that too months apart and both time HORRIBLE service. The second time, went in around 11 AM on Sunday, I ordered my latte, an almond bar and a cup of hot water for my wife. The young Spanish girl and the guy with mohawk hair were busy chit chatting and two people who placed their order after me got their drinks before me. Then, the guy forgot my hot water, and the third customer got his drink before i got my hot water! WTF, ever heard of customer service?!? Oh, and the almond bar was the worst of it all. it was so cold and hard and i could not get to cut it with a fork and knife. The whole experience left me and my wife completely bitter about this place. I will most certainly will not be taking my business here.

10-15 years ago, this was one of my favorite coffee shops. Why? Three words- Black Forest Mocha. Now, raspberry mochas are pretty common. And it's not entirely unheard of to find a coffee shop that puts a dollop of chocolate whipped cream on your drink. But to blend coffee, black cherry syrup and the creaminess of chocolate whipped cream?!? It completely tricked your taste buds into believing you were drinking a piece of black forest chocolate cake! Fast forward to today. No more chocolate whipped cream. And even the cherry flavor was more muted than as recorded in my memory banks. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good drink, just not as life-changing as it had been in my youth. I will be back, but I can't wait until they master time travel...

I like this place. It's got free wifi, the workers are very friendly, coffee is great. I usually get a latte. I also like their fresh made immunity juice! They have indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of it. It's a place to see and be scene. ;) People are friendly and often seem to know each other here. It's a really great place to get a coffee to go, to sip on your coffee and hang out, or to do some work.

I'm actually sitting here right now. Writing this review in a hulk like rage. Maybe not that bad, and I'm smiling on the inside a little because this is fun. But I really am pissed off. Keep in mind, this is based based on this one visit really, and I know it might be a nice establishment sometimes. But today, for me, it was not. I don't even care that the chocolate chip cookie was garbage. It was the disrespectful, shitty attitude of the employees that killed my visit. Here's what happened: I ordered the piece of crap cookie as well as an espresso on ice, in which the worker looked at me as if that was an insane request. But thats alright, I was in a good mood and even gave her a dollar tip. Her reaction to that was to continue looking at me like I was a talking oak tree and then decided to neither smile or say thank you for the tip. That sucks but at least I still had my shitty cookie and coffee to look forward to. But they decided to ruin that for me as well. They made the espresso hot, which is usually no big deal in any coffehouse ever. Mix-ups happen all the time. I nicely told them I ordered it on ice. But instead of the dude being smart and respectful, the unintelligent prick that made it, said I ordered it hot. Now, I didn't even ask him to re-make the drink. I just asked for ice. He said they would have to charge me extra. For ice, after messing up my order? And the worst thing, he was not professional, respectful, or nice in doing so. He also had a bastard look on his face in the process. And all this was after a tip that I really had no business giving to these morons in the first place. So I'm looking at the coffee right now, trying to figure out what I'm going to do with it. I don't want to drink anything coming from the hand of an asshole. So I give you permission to stop by here, but look inside first. If you see a dude with one of those thin line beard track things on his jerky head, then don't come in. Wait till he goes home to his meaningless shit life of making this world a bad place to be.

This place is a little gem. Whenever I want to hide away from the world and go somewhere private with my love or friends I come here. It is super cute and what a fun location right in the performing arts center. I have been going here for a while. Very good vibes and friendly staff.

this is one of the few coffee shoppes on the small strip of murphy st, aka downtown sunnyvale. aside from the usual coffee, tea, and small pastries, they also offer milk/bubble tea, which is not a usual option for a coffee shoppe. since it was a hot day, i chose the coconut milk tea ($3.75) which was cold, sweet and very refreshing. i was very surprised at how crowded it was at 11am on a weekday morning, and unfortunately, due to the poor acoustics, it was a bit difficult to have a conversation with the people that i was meeting. this definitely wouldn't be my first choice for a meeting at a coffee shoppe, but if i have to meet in downtown sunnyvale, then it'll do.

Great coffee and really good breakfast! Their French Toast is amazing, I had it a few weeks ago and fell in love. Just tried their eggs, cheese, and toast and it's equally as good.

My friend seems to like their drinks. I got a chocolate cake, which tasted old and sickeningly sweet. My friend agreed. The frosting was hard and the cake bread tasted stale. We took a couple bites and couldn't go further. A waste of 5 bucks. I don't think I'll be getting any desserts here again.

Great array of desserts (various tarts and cakes) to choose from to go along with your cup of coffee that you poor yourself by usually choosing between 2-3 types of coffee (flavored, bold/french, and medium). It also has reliable wifi service with ~25% of the seats (tables/couches) within reach of an outlet.

This is a review of their cappuccino. One word: superb! I didnt know what to really expect but my family and I were looking for a coffee place after eating out. I looked at the yelp reviews and found this place. I'm a huge nonfat cap drinker so I stuck to my usual. When I got it, I was truly blown away. One of the best caps I ever tasted. Honest. And I dont even live close by which is a bummer....oh well.

Came here for a business meeting this afternoon, and had the Almond Cappuccino that many other Yelpers here raved about. It was pretty good, but not particularly outstanding compared to other flavored coffees. The place seemed like a decent local coffee shop, but nothing truly special. Definitely an A-OK rating - not bad, but nothing to write home about. This area is difficult to find parking during peak weekday lunch hours, so I'd suggest avoiding it around weekday lunch time.

A pretty great, local coffee shop in downtown Sunnyvale. I stop by once a week when I'm downtown for the farmer's market. It's usually pretty busy, and the line is pretty long, but they're good at moving fast to get you in and out quickly. The soy lattes are pretty good, I'm not a huge fan of the espresso they use, but it isn't terrible. I wish they had more vegan options (juices, etc) but it's pretty limited. It is a great place to chill out and read a book - if you can get one of the comfy chairs (the rest are wooden and not super comfortable). But, the comfortable chairs are really great and i could stay there all day.

Love the Bean Scene. Loyal customers for years. The owner knows the regulars by name, and their drinks by heart. He is there almost every day, and genuinely cares about his business and customers. The coffee is consistently very good. Pastries are very good as well. Oh how I will miss my chocolate muffin. Service is quick and attentive. Downtown location is great, and makes it convenient to sit outside with your dog, walk down to the newsstand, hit the nearby Target, or enjoy the Saturday farmer's market. Plenty of parking downtown, with a lot directly behind the shop. Skip Starbucks and support this awesome local business.

Who doesn't love a community coffee shop? My refuge during my job seeking malaise. Written some brilliant cover letters while sipping on their solid good brew and vegan baked goods. If you're staying for a while, you get the option of a nice mug out of which to drink. Love the free and fast Wi-Fi access but you will need to arm wrestle for a spot near an outlet if you're armed with a laptop. As always, the wall art by local talent is hit or miss. The energy is always at the right notch...more subdued inside against the foot traffic of downtown Sunnyvale outside. Always a nice mesh of folks. Alas, their crepes will leave you craving for real crepes.

Been coming to this cafe for years. It's a great neighborhood hang-out with a cheerful vibe and friendly staff. I love their chai lattes and a Chocolate Slush on a hot summer day cannot be beat! My only issue is with the hours, they never seem to be open when I'm craving a post-dinner treat.

I can't believe I've never been here! My dad treated us to lunch here yesterday and we had a great time. This was a cool little cafe with lots of locals just hanging out on a Sunday afternoon. There was a lot of seating inside, plus free WiFi so people had their laptops set up. We sat outside on the sidewalk patio, which was great. They had a huge menu, with lots of delicious sounding teas and coffee drinks. Next time I'll forgo Starbucks and try out some of their drinks. They also had a display case with lots of baked goods that I also would like to try. I chose the portobello mushroom sandwich. (It was the only vegetarian sandwich option; I had hoped there would be a few more.) It was cold but the bread was lightly toasted-just right to where it doesn't scrape up your mouth. There were plenty of big mushroom-y chunks, plus roasted red peppers, lots of avocado (always a plus in my book!) and Swiss cheese. I was starving and I devoured it. The others in my group got the tuna salad sandwich and a ham and cheese sandwich with different kinds of cheese. The sandwiches also come with a nice mixed-greens salad with Italian dressing (none of that cheap crappy Iceberg lettuce!). I gave them three stars for now. Service was very, very slow. Not sure if it's always like that or if they were extra busy or what. But I plan to come back and try a few more things, at which time I might bump them up a star. Overall I was pleased.

Last night, I got a chocolate chip cookie here. It was so good, like a cake cookie, soft and delicious! I only got a bite of it though, my boyfriend took it and ate the whole thing! :( Next time, I won't let him try it! 5 star for the cookie. I haven't tried anything else. See ya there!

My friend got the almond mocha, and I the chai latte. She really liked her drink, and I mine. I haven't tried the drip coffees yet, but I'll let you know when I go there next time. Their bathroom in the back smelled... lovely! I thought it was a good touch to have a diaper changing table, they really know how to treat their customers well. The environment is ideal to have conversations and relax. And it's good to see people actually talk instead of wallowing in cyberspace, even if this cafe offers free wifi. A bit on the pricier side, but it's part of the nicer area of Sunnyvale. Only the hours sucked. We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it closes at 5. But I guess that's just how business is in downtown Sunnyvale.

The Bean Scene has a cool scene that I want to be a part of. Meet my new fellow yelper on Saturday, Mercy B, for a quick bite and coffee talk. I arrived a little early and ordered a spinach salad and mango pearl tea. The spinach salad gets 2 stars. It was plain...and they ran out of walnuts. The Mango Tea was delicioso! I normally don't like bubble tea, but clearly I had not experienced good bubble tea. I was popping those "bubble pearls" so quickly and absentmindedly. Plus, you know me and my mango love. I had been here a couple times before. They serve crepes, sandwiches, and of course coffee. You should try the black forest mocha-oh yeah! Moreover, they have FREE WIFI, sofas, couches, and even computers for your use. I like this joint for some many reasons, and highly recommend this place for a study or hang out night. Heck...even for a "meet a new yelp friend' night, or in our case, late lunch! Thanks Mercy B-you ROCK!

A nice little place to get a quick coffee. I can honestly come in here and relax. I usually will get a coffee and a sandwich or snack. They also make crepes and all sorts of goodies. A minus 1 star on the food prep because some days they take a while to make a simple sandwich other than that I will most likely be back.

Whenever I am early for my train at the Caltrain station, I walk over to here to drink some iced coffee and check up on emails. I've had coffee from here and Coffee & More and while the workers are Coffee & More are a little bit friendlier, The Bean Scene has a bigger selection. I always get the Vanilla Iced Latte and have yet to venture far from it, probably because I love it every time. I actually don't even like coffee that much, but the Bean Scene has convinced me otherwise.

This is a decent coffee shop. I usually drink Americanos everywhere i go and this place super watered it down. There's hardly any plugs here if you want to get some work done or just hang out here. It's in a good location but overall was not impressed by their drink menu or my Americano.

Free Secured [you have to dig on the site a little to find the password for the secure line] WiFi is their best highlight. That plus a comfy chair and a cup of tea very early in the morning is the best they can offer. Their hours have always bothered me - they open really early and close early- and whenever I get coffee, it's almost always burned. They have food for every stomach, some of it is pretty good and a good price. But a lot of their breakfast stuff is overpriced.

We bike here occasionally on Saturday or Sunday mornings for a light breakfast and a newspaper. But I have to say, their breakfast food is bleh, and we've tried a number of menu items. All the egg omelettes we tried were either paper thin and overcooked, or runny and cold. Not to mention, it takes forever if you order anything that requires cooking. The bagels are ok, but be sure to tell them if you don't want it toasted (they'll toast w/out asking). Muffins were dry, crumbling, and hard (hopefully they can blame the bakery they buy these from). The last time we went there, I asked for a spinach and cheese omelette (which was on the menu) and I got a quiche...??? Admittedly, we go back almost every week. Why? Definitely not the food. It's the location we like - it's closeby, with outdoor tables, that serves light breakfast "stuff". Just don't expect stellar food and service.

I work near by, so it's a place to go have a coffee with my co-workers. I like how they make nice motif in your coffee and it's one of the few decent places around to hang out. I wish the decor was a bit nicer, some of the old furniture can go and some cups aren't in the best conditions. Actually they did get some new chairs, but more work can be needed to re-vamp the place a bit. A big part of the experience to go to a place like this is the ambiance, which is a bit below par. but the coffee is good, not sure about other stuff they serve. Service is good, too.

I was in the neighborhood for a lunch meeting (see my review of Rok) and decided to walk the Murphy Ave shopping block while I was there. Coffee after lunch is always a good thing, so I wandered into The Bean Scene. It's a nice sized coffee shop, with an eclectic variety of seating areas. At the bottom of the menu board was my favorite coffee drink, a Cafe Borgia; of course I ordered one. The Borgia was s little muted, the chocolate and orange flavors were overpowered by the coffee. I wish I could rate the place higher, but to be disappointed by my favorite drink makes it less likely I'd come back to this coffee house, no matter how nice the decor and space is.

My friend and I stopped here killing time between appointments. I'm a total Starbucks addict and she is a Peet's coffee lover. My favorite drink is a chai latte. I've had them at Peet's and I am not a fan. Starbucks really has been the only place I've had a chai latte that I love....until today. I was skeptical but still ordered one and I have to say that it was better than any chai tea latte I have ever had at Starbucks, even from my usual place down the street from where I live. Anyway, we come to Sunnyvale weekly and I will be back! They have a lot of seating in and out. Also, it's located on a cute little shopping strip which was close to our destination which was convenient. Anyway, coffee lovers, give them a whirl! ;)

First the positives: Bean Scene has a great ambiance, the local coffee shop feel is comfortable and a nice place to hangout for an afternoon. Their Chai is excellent, some of the best I've had locally. The negative: Their coffee is horrendous. I mean really terrible. I honestly have trouble understanding how it can be so poor. A chain like Peet's would mop the floor with them. To make matters worse, it's more expensive than the chains, AND more expensive then independent coffee shops in neighboring Mountain View and Palo Alto. It's extremely frustrating because there is virtually no competition on Murphy, so there's nobody stealing their business and forcing them to step up the game. The atmosphere is nice, the employees are great, if they just got their act together and changed their coffee supplier or fixed their equipment or whatever the heck the problem is...they could be extremely solid. Anyway, go, get the Chai, hangout, use the free wifi. Just for the love of all that is holy don't go expecting good coffee.

I love the almond cappuccinos here!! I love their chicken sandwich and the fruit salad is always fresh (which is much appreciated)!! I always come here on my break at work which is only 30 minutes. Unfortunately they take forever to make the sandwiches so I always end up having like 10 minutes to eat. It takes so long because they usually only have one person working. If you have time--check this place out, the coffee is better then Peet's or Starbucks and I love the little cafe feel!

2 words: Free WiFi 2 more words: Almond Cappuccino Both are awesome. What more could you want in the morning? When I was trying to find the place one morning around 8:00 PM the entire sunnyvale downtown looked like it was sleeping until I find Bean Scene and walk in and you see that probably all the people in Sunnyvale downtown are in this one little coffee shop. It was raining, cloudy and grim outside. It was warm, caffeinated and lively inside. 'nuff said? Everything was good the service was quick enough and they even give you the option of free "secured" wifi which is completely awesome I must say. I did order a nutella crepe to go with my cappuccino which did not fare so well. It was rather hard to eat. It seemed a bit undercooked and hard of the knife if that makes any sense. Anyway, good stuff either way. Will definitely go and check it out again and certainly recommend it to others. Check it out!

I like this place and their hot sandwiches are the best. I usually get the hot ham panini with cheese peppers and toasted to perfection. Their hot white mocha is a dream.... the coffee tastes so different than starbucks. Sheesh, talking about it now makes me want to go stuff down another sandwich. They used to have fruits and chips for sides. Havent been there in a while but I would stop by here if I am in DT sunnyvale

Long-overdue update: The hours still irk me a little, but since I've started going on Sunday mornings rather than late at night, it's no longer a huge issue. Or perhaps I've forgiven them because they do occasionally have carrot cake (with cream cheese frosting) now... although it's still not routinely available when I go. The other sweets are very good, and I sometimes like to order a crepe--specifically the tasty nutella and banana crepe. I've used the Wi-Fi, and it is reliable--and free. I've become pretty much a regular since my review ~1 year ago. The aforementioned reserved barista has warmed up to me--much to my delight--and knows what to make for me before I make it to the counter. The espresso is consistently good. Right now, there is no outdoor seating anywhere because the entire length of Murphy is undergoing a massive remodel. Consequently, the Saturday farmers' market has been moved to the Caltrain Station. But you can still get your coffee fix while you're getting your weekly necessities, because Bean Scene has a booth set up with an espresso machine and everything they need to make you that special latte. Gonna go with a thumbs' up.

Been here just once -- I think it's the closest coffee to the Sunnyvale Caltrain station. (They need to turn the empty ticket office at Caltrain into a coffee shop stand. A Peet's or Starbuck's or local shop, whatever. I guarantee they'd rake it in during the morning commute hours.) Anyways the Bean Scene is fine place to come and hang out - it has a very inviting feel, with nice wooden tables and chairs. I also nabbed a breakfast sandwich from them; it tasted alright but was overpriced.

Stopped in this morning on whim. I ordered a chai, breakfast croissant and a slice of princess cake to go. The chai was ok...I do like mine a little stronger in flavour. The croissant was just ok too. The best was the princess cake, which I stole a nibble off of. I cannot wait to dig into that!!!

Laid-back place, free wifi, good to work there, a bit dark but very non-chain style, which is good. Barrista on duty tried hard and it showed. Espresso shot was over-roasted (Not his fault, I guess he does not buy the beans) and under-extracted: thin and bitter. Place is nice - so maybe if you pay a "corkage fee" you can bring your own coffee and sit and work there?

The Bean Scene is somewhere I've just started going to on the weekends. Perfect for coming in with your laptop, or reading the paper. There's one guy here who is a GENIOUS and making cappuciano's. This is the "for reals" cap in a cap mug, with lots of foam and an espresso pattern on top. The food is pretty good, healthy, reasonable (6.95 for a chicke/tuna melt, comes with salad, fruit, or chips). I'm not too impressed with the coffe, but the specialty drinks are for real. I'll definitely be back.

You are so cute bean scene! I don't come here often because I'm quite partial to barefoot, but barefoot has gotten really crowded lately, and bean scene is closer. The quality of coffee is pretty good also. And can't forget free wifi yay!

A 3 star joint considering that it is located in the deathly hallows that are currently downtown Sunnyvale. Coffee is mediocre. Nothing to write home about and not worth coming out here for unless you are in the area. I only come here to escape construction during the loathsome remodeling process. Free wi-fi and lots of seating both indoor and out. But BOO to having only ONE bathroom in such a large establishment! How is that hygienic or practical?! -1 star! Customers who have bladders that are going to burst are NOT happy customers!

ooh The Bean Scene. It took me forever to find this spot because i couldn't find the darn sign. My advice is to just park and walk 'til you see it because it's so easy to spot as soon as your get out of your tin vehicle. The place has some real potential, but my experience here only qualified as acceptable. I love that there is tons of seating and free wifi, but the lack of (plug) outlets completely eliminates the purpose of bringing your laptop in the first place! While there, I had a latte and a ham -&-cheese crepe all while having to listen to accordion players and a guitar player sing his rendition of "i kissed a girl"by Katy Perry .. Awkward.. Any who, The latte was standard, but I will certainly skip the crepe next time and probably go for one of their delectable desserts. I wish on non-busy day's the workers would bring you your coffee like Crema Coffee, but hey can't have it all! Altogether, I would say this is a good place for a day date or morning coffee, however if i was to choose it as a place to study, i'd easily pass and just haul my booty over to the local borders; that is unless they answer my plea and extend their hours to 11:30PM and get more outlets.

Cozy little coffee shop that had more than I expected. The coffee was pretty good, but definitely not mindblowing. The baklava was actually better than I had expected, and the chocolate cake was very rich (but tasty!). Service is kind of mreh. It didn't seem like the person working really wanted to be there. But frankly, I'm not as much of a stickler for service at coffee shops. All I need is good coffee made right. Neat ambiance, lots of wood decor and some chairs that look like they may have been church pews or something at one point. I dug it. I'd definitely go back, but it's sort of on the fence between a 3-star and 4-star review.

After reading so many mixed reviews, I wanted to give Bean Scene Café a shot and see it for myself. I cannot resist a good slice of princess cake, and ordered a caramel latté to go with it. The princess cake wasn't nearly as good as I've had before: the cake was dry and crumbly, there was way too much buttercream, and the marzipan was dry. Very disappointing. The latté was decent - nothing to write home about. I do like that they serve in-house customers with actual plates and mugs, and the atmosphere seems to be that of a cozy local shop. Unfortunately, I was so underwhelmed by my experience that I can't recommend it to others.

Awesome interior and area. Free wifi. However, the terrible customer service drops its rating all the way from 5 stars to 1 star. They have gotten my order wrong every time I've been here and are very rude about fixing their mistakes. Customer is definitely not always right at the Bean Scene. Won't be returning. Or maybe I will just bring my own coffee from home and mooch off their wifi!

Every downtown needs a little coffee shop! The Bean Scene is the one for Sunnyvale! I'd highly recommend their hot chocolate, and to top it off, there's free wifi. I'm happy to support Bean Scene in downtown Sunnyvale, one of the few places where you won't find a Starbucks!

I am a solid supporter of our town, and we always love supporting the local businesses. So, let me start off by saying that I like Bean Scene's coffee. On a recent Saturday I had a good white mocha here, and hubba's almond cappucino was delicious. We also ordered crepes - the breakfast crepe and the chicken crepe. Those were also pretty good. Now this is where TBS falls short - ordering, customer service, and a clean and decent table on a weekend morning. Now for someone who isn't sure what they want or what the ordering process is, they might be turned off by the funny look that the cashier might give them ... or by the long-ish wait for the crepes. But the coffee will undoubtedly come before the crepes so at least you have that to sip while you wait. Forgive the cashier and enjoy your coffee ... maybe even order it extra hot so you won't down it before your breakfast comes. As for the clean and decent table, it's easier to find something outside instead of waiting inside for the guy looking at AK-47s on his laptop to leave. So take your chances, bundle up, and take your Bean Scene goodies outside to watch the people go by on a Saturday morning. Or at least be entertained while the little boy who is with his family inside TBS presses his mouth against the glass to leave squishy lips all over the front window. Note: I may up TBS's rating if they improve a few little things.

So I've walked by this place a bazillion times (that's a lot, I know), but for whatever reason on I've never ventured inside. Today seemed like a day to change that. I went to Borders, picked up a couple of books, grabbed my son and off we went. Said fella with the chinstrap beard helped me and I've gotta say .... he was friendly enough. No complaints from me. And he makes a mean latte. It's delicious. Nice and strong ... just like I like 'em (the coffee, not the man. Well, I like my men strong, too but I digress ....). He even makes pretty foam designs! The seating is good if you can snag a leather chair (like I did) or a spot on the couch. My son is sitting on this weird wood bench thing. We'll see how long he lasts before the complaining sets in. ;) There seem to be a lot of different pastries/desserts/deliciousness in the case, but I didn't get anything. My latte is my treat! They also have bagels, sandwiches and salads. Wi-Fi was a breeze to pick up. It's mid-day on a Tuesday and there are only 3 empty tables. I like it here and will totally come back. Although sitting by this window has alerted me to how dirty my laptop screen is! My next stop will be Office Depot to buy some cleaner. I think the Bean Scene has just found their newest customer!

I'm loving the delicious coffee that isn't overpriced. thankyou. My sister and I rode our bikes over and ordered. I got a an Almond Capuccino and she got some Mocha freeze thingy with german chocolate cake. The cappuccino was surprisingly good! For some reason I assumed it'd be crap. I found myself wishing I'd gotten a medium instead of a small... the free wifi has created some obviously loyal patrons. We felt like we were intruding a bit, especially since we came on a Sunday morning. I hope downtown feels better soon! I can't wait to come by more often.

This place is a total disappointment. We went there last weekend for lunch, we ordered some breakfast of scrambled eggs and crepe. The eggs were tough and the cheese was not fresh, the crepe got my stomach sick afterwards. On top of that, things were served with some cheap utensils including plastic folk and knife, which made the meals not so appealing. And the service kind sucked as well. I will never return to this place again!

So not only do we have to check the guy's pulse behind the bar....lame...but he tried to throw me and my service dog out. I told him that if he threw me out he would be breaking the law and he said "oh well, you still have to leave." I told him to call his manager to ask about ADA laws. Not sure if he ever call, I stayed until I wanted to leave and he never came back to tell me he was wrong or to appologize. So, Mr. Barista, if you are reading this and you know who you are, how about you educate yourself on ADA law before you get yourself sued! ada.gov/svcabrpt.pdf Needless to say I will never go back again and I hope this educates others.

Best mocha freeze ever! Better than the standard coffee chains ;-)) The place is pretty cozy, too. Since it's just next to Lunatic Fringe, Bean Scene had offered the performers at Lunatic Fringe to perform belly dance at some occasions. I went for the Halloween Belly Dancing party last year and it was really cool!!

Food is OK. Drinks are fine. Cake is great. Service, what the hell? To the stocky guy with the chinstrap beard - you need to find another job where you are paid to be surly and grunt all of your words. Perhaps a longshoreman? Rodeo circus custodian? Here's the great thing: he will make small efforts to be friendly/flirt with single young women, but as soon as any male comes near, it's right back to jerkcity. I've stopped coming in here because of him. Coffee and More up the street is much better and the people working there are always human.

Uninspired and limited for food. Went with the gang to check out this place today. On the plus side, I had never been to Murphy Ave, which is a really nice, University Avenue-like setting in Sunnyvale. On the minus side, the place has a very limited food menu. I went for crepes, so I ordered the ham & cheese. The crepe itself was rubbery and dare I say bouncy. The filling was only OK - partially hot, partially cool due to the lackluster preparation. Not large, and it cost $5.50. The people-watching is probably good for people who want to see a bunch of techie guys in their 30s. Limited otherwise.... In summary, I did not like it and I will not be back.

This is the best coffee bar by far!! Ordered a cappuccino, princess cake (I admit, it's got a non-manly name but I fell for its appearance), and a danish. The barista that made my coffee added a nice touch to it with some fancy art and the cake was incredibly delicious. Apparently the top layer was made of marzipan then layered with jam then cream and two thick layers of cake. Simply amazing. I cannot describe it in words, you must try it. Plus, free wifi (Starbucks forces its customers to register or something silly like that). This place rocks. It's now my new hideout.

Came here yesterday with my bf since we didn't feel like going to a big chain coffee shop like Peets or Starbucks. The shop was nice and there were lots of seating available. The frozen coffee drinks were just okay. Nothing really fantastic about them considering that Starbucks frapps tastes a lot better (hurts me to say that). I had the Hazelnut espresso which was good but too icy. I felt like I was drinking a slushy but with bigger pieces of ice. This surprises me because the drink is supposed to be made with ice cream. Shouldn't that make the drink creamier? My bf had the Mocha freeze which didn't have much of a coffee taste to it. It was more like frozen icy chocolate.

The food and drinks are good. They take awhile when u order food. My biggest disappointment was the soup I ordered. It was obviously Campbell's or a similar brand from a CAN. Really Bean Scene?!? However, I do love your espresso...

In my quest for good paninis and crepes in the south bay, I came across this place's website. The website is convincing. It makes this place look like a nice and tasty independent coffee house. So I decided to convince my co workers to try it out on a super hot day in Sunnyvale (95 degrees). We parked close by, and walked Sunnyvale's main street past many people eating "alfresco". We got hungry looking at other people eating at Gumba's and Thai Basil. We also wondered why there were so many breweries and pubs on this street, but that's a different story. So we finally made it to this place. Compared to the other restaurants on that street, this was deserted. We looked at the food menu and were not really impressed so we considered leaving, but after reconsidering we stayed... bad decision. We ordered crepes (ham/swiss and veggie) and sandwiches (mushroom and chicken salad). They were good ... fresh fruit as a side for the sandwiches was very nice. The crepes were not bad, but there was nothing special or extraordinary about them. Sandwiches look home made (as in I could have made the same thing), and were tasty enough, but again, nothing really great, just normal. Apparently, this place is good for wi-fi, as there were several people with laptops there. And it may be also good for coffee, which we did not try. Other than that, don't come here to eat.

Next to Caffe del Doge in Palo Alto, this is absolute top class coffee, in south bay. Its a remarkable place, with a calm atmosphere, friendly staff, good internet connection, pleasant regulars dropping in. On top of the coffee experience, its my favourite office away from the office.

  • Isa J.

It used to be so much better. Somehow the coffe is not that good anymore. The ambiance is still good.

This quaint little coffee shop has a nice atmosphere, there's always someone inside reading a book or working on a laptop, thanks to the free wi-fi of course. The staff tends to be quiet but friendly and the lattes and mocha always make the tummy and the palette feel good. The Bean Scene also tends to carry a few food items and their brownies should be considered fatal...in a delicious sort of way. My one gripe about this place is I wish it were open just a tiny bit later in the evenings, but that's my fault since I tend to have a long work day and I like to relax before strutting down Murphy St. for some grub or coffee. Regardless, you should stop by this not Starbucks establishment, it'd be very difficult to not enjoy yourself, even if it's just a little bit.

I would say a 3.5! I live near downtown, and noticed this place when I was out with friends on Murphy. I had been looking for a good little coffeeshop to walk to and do work or just hang out, so a few days later I gave it a try. They have a good selection on their menu, for both coffee and food items (of which I've had both), but I've never been too happy with their coffee. I don't know for sure, but it's just never tasted *that* good to me. Same with their mochas and lattes, though I will say that their Chai is some of the best I've ever had. They also have bubble tea on their menu, but seem to be perpetually out of boba. The food is okay, nothing spectacular but not at all bad. I like the atmosphere of the place, and there are a lot of areas that are good for sitting and working, plus outdoor seating. The service is alright, I can't complain.

As someone who is self-employed, it's been my quest to hit up all the independent coffee shops around the South Bay on the hunt to find the most ideal remote "offices" where I can do my "thang." Doing a quick search for spots in Sunnyvale, I found the Bean Scene. Based on that information, this is how Bean Scene bodes: The brewed coffee is nice and hot. I chose the Sunnyvale blend which was really smooth. I somewhat despise when coffee is in self-serve squirtable carafes, but it was hot and tasted okay, so I can't complain. I was bummed they didn't offer me a porcelain mug and just assumed I wanted it to-go (thanks Starbucks, you assholes). What's up with that? Atmosphere is a mixed bag. The decor has got a traditional old-house feel to it which is endearing, but the seating is very old-house as well. Meaning hard wood that gives a hurtin' on the ass. I don't think I could have extended stays at this place. The staff is only friendly to the regulars from what I've witnessed and there was a very minimal exchange of words when I purchased my overpriced $2 brewed coffee. The wi-fi is your typical AeONSafe access point but the great thing is that it's free and very reliable. I get a full-bar signal on my lappy and have yet to experience any problems accessing my typical net apps. The place is sorely lacking power outlets, most are located at the crowded corners of the shop. Not a good thing if you plan on doing some intense remote work. In summary, it's a decent place but nothing to rave about. As someone who enjoys working at remote locations, it's not an ideal spot to be productive. There are much better places you could go to get some work done.

Update: I tried this place again because nothing else was open. Staff still rude and act as if they have better things to do then take your order. the Latte was good. Still the earlier review below stands: -------------------------------------------------------------- Gosh, I wanted to like this place. It has a decent atmosphere and free wifi but they made it kind of hard. 1) the bathroom was filthy. I mean urine everywhere, wet floor, nasty. I mentioned it to the staff and their answer to one another was "Just put out of order, we don't have time to clean it". It's that against the law if there is only one bathroom? And there were not busy at all! They did not seem at all concerned that the reason I told them this was because I NEEDED TO USE THE BATHROOM. 2) I hate to say this but ordering was so difficult because the staff did not understand english. I was being simple. they were nice and smiled but then when I asked if they understood they just said "no". It just got frustrating. 3) I did not get what I asked for. Here is the conversation: ME: do you have a veggie sandwich? THEM: yes, the gardina sandwich ME: ok I will have that. THEM: Without meat? (really? isn't that the point of a veggie sandwich) ME: yes, no meat. THEM: What side? Salad, fruit or chips ME: Chips What I got: A small veggie sandwich on cardboard bread with FRUIT. The veggies were good but anything on cardboard is not worth $6. they said it came on panini bread. I know Panini bread. It was hard cardboard. Also, when your food is ready they YELL at you that its ready. Suggestions for a better place than this with free wifi? good music, reliable wifi but I am holding my legs together because I have to pee! As soon as i complete my project I am out the door!

this morning was my coffee date with a great friend who used to work for um, one of the bigger coffee businesses, which shall remain nameless. now that she is no longer under then employ, we felt adventurous and wanted to try out something new. it took us a while to decide what to have because they had breakfasts, pastries, sammies, coffee, tea, blended frozen drinks and all that yum. i decided on an almond cappucino and a veggie breakfast sammie on onion bagel. coffee friend got a regular capp and the sammie as well. at 9 in the morning on a sunday there were a lot of tables to choose from in this good sized shop. we picked one right next to the front window and didn't have to wait long for our orders to be called. i loved the tinge of almond in my drink. it wasn't too overpowering or too weak. yum. the sammie was SOOOO good. they toasted my bagel just enough an then loaded it up with cream cheese, lettuce, red onion, tomato and avocado. tasty morsels! i brought home a latte for the boyfriend and he raved at the taste of the coffee. he's very picky, so if he liked it, i know it's good! :) the atmosphere is very relaxed and cozy. there were a variety of people there ranging from twenty somethings to families with small children to a very cute group of grandmas sipping their sunday tea. i will definitely be going back here the next time i want to drink some good coffee, enjoy a light breakfast, watch some interesting people and let my morning unwind.

I live within walking distance of this cafe so I go often. However, every time I go I think the same thing: The coffee is pretty good (much better than the coffee and palace cafe), but the service is so bad. I'm not to picky about service nor am I the sort of person that goes to fancy, over-priced restaurants, but the people who work here are just rude.

I wish this place would stay open later so that this could be my official study spot. It's so much cozier than all the other places I usually go to. They have a great selection of drinks and food. Cal and I are here now, using their free wi-fi. I had a half a toasted bagel with cream cheese and Cal had the bran muffin (which is really good). I really want an Italian soda, but got green tea instead. Still good, especially since it's cold out.

God awful coffee, poor bean quality and burnt milk. but it's a nice place to relax. Got a latte and the milk was 1) not frothy and yet 2) tasted burnt. Is that possible? Definitely go to Barefoot for the coffee. however, they have comfortable chairs and free wifi. It's a definite kick-back neighborhood feel. lesson? I'm getting the iced tea next time and just kicking back with a book.

I've stopped in here before for a cup of coffee to go (which by the way is pretty good!). Today, I had a late lunch with Flor D. The Bean Scene is located in the old part of downtown Sunnyvale. Murphy Avenue reflects what Sunnyvale used to be like - but now it's lined with a variety of bars, restaurants and little specialty shops besides The Bean Scene. I had a vegetarian pannini that was messy, gooey with lots of cheese and lettuce - very good. I quenched my thirst with a honey dew pearl tea. I think that pearl drinks are quite a novelty, but it definitely was refreshing. As I looked around, lots of people were sitting with their laptops open - and from what I could tell, there's free wi-fi. This is a great place to sit a spell, have lunch, a refreshing drink and socialize. Thanks, Flor for the wonderful company and conversation!

I was not impressed with the coconut tapioca drink. They were skimpy with the tapioca and the tapioca was not cooked enough resulting in a hard texture. The coconut drink itself was bland.I did enojy the tiramisu dessert though, it was moist, fluffy and an ample portion. The register staff taking my order was slow and I'd say customer service was not the best. I won't be going back.

I like bean scene a lot. Spacious, coffee is great, sandwiches are good. WiFi too. Just enough people for people watching and part of Murphy Street! great fun and not a chain! Visit at least every other week and recommend it to everyone.

I was pretty happy with the White Mocha I got here a few days ago. Scratch that, that white mocha was f*ck*ng delicious. If it found itself in a dark alley and stepped on Starbucks' and Peet's brand new Roos, That white mocha would lay the mother effing smackdown on them. Anyway... I was surprised to see every single seat filled inside, and a lot of the seating filled outside. My girlfriend and I shared a Samosa and it was pretty damn good. I just found out via yelp reviews that they have free wi-fi and that leads me to believe that I might find myself at The Bean Scene yelping, myspacing, or doing homework one of these days. I will definitely make this my new stop on my way to work on Fridays and Saturdays (the only days I have time before work to get coffee).

My favorite place for a morning cup of joe. In addition to regular coffee, there is a delicious flavored brew each day: chocolate raspberry, caramel creme or coconut vanilla, just to name a few. Cozy ambiance and always full of locals. So why not five stars? Depending on who is behind the counter, you may get a smile or you may get a snarl (darned pesky customers interrupting her texting at work!). Fabulous coffee though.

  • Chris V.

I would have to say - that this place is one of the best coffee houses in Sunnyvale - far better than Peets or Sbux (even tho I am a Peets fan!) I have been coming here for over 10 yrs now, even before the current owners bought it. They truly make you feel like family, great atmosphere, friendly - a really great place to kick back, read the paper, surf the net, or whatever!

Good coffee - my regular latte from here is rather tasty. I had their lunch offer today (hot turkey + pastrami on panini) with the salad. First, the panini is actually some form of hard flat bread, not the usual Italian treat - its not that it was bad, just more lacking in taste and it didn't hold the sandwich together in any way or form. The salad was tasty but very salty - probably the cheese they put on it not being draining correctly before mixing in with the rest of the ingredients. Service was OK, although fairly non-descript. I didn't see any surliness and the staff kept to themselves. Being English, I found this fairly normal, although I can imagine it might come across brash in different circumstances. In general, I'd go back for the coffee but probably try somewhere else for the sandwich - for $6.50 it just wasn't up there in my top local sandwich spots.

It is so nice to finally find a place like The Bean Scene in my home town. They have really great service along with really good drinks and coffee. Once again, I was surprised by how good the food here was. It is the kind of place you bring a book to, or some homework, and stay for awhile without having to leave. The only downside is that there are only a few outlets in the place. The feel is kind of like walking into my grammas place, but they have a lot of natural light coming. Good hours too, open early and stay open late enough to get some studying done. Definitely a great place to stop at if youre in the area.

To be or not to be that is the question. - Hamlet, Shakespere. My Question is this: Is it the coffee beans that make a great cup of coffee? Or is it that the cafe that carries great beans that the brand new barista created a mediocore cup of coffee? Like too much milk or too much of that? You tell me. I ordered their white chocolate mocha with Raspberry. I thought that my cup of coffee was "alright". I am still waiting for an answer.

In general, it's desserts are good. But the pearl tea (boba) was horrible the one time I came. I think I had honeydew flavor -- it was too sweet and the pearls were the wrong texture entirely. However, this isn't really a place you come for pearl tea. (Ten Ren Tea in Cupertino Village is the place for that.)

    (3)
  • Elaine C.

The David Rio Organic La France Pear Tea is very good here. It is a green tea with subtle yet fresh pear accents. They also make fresh fruit juices here that are tasty and refreshing. Overall, this is a wonderful and comfortable place. They also display local artwork on the walls.

Nice shop, but really mediocre in just about every way. I end up going here from time to time, really only if I don't feel like making coffee at the office. Which is better...their coffee or my bag of Dunkin...sometimes its a tough call. The place is generally pretty quiet, but mostly because people are glued to the internet (free wi-fi I think). Though I haven't tried much of the food there (not a huge menu by any means) the sandwiches aren't to bad for a quick lunch. They do a fair job on the hot sandwiches as well. I also like the lunch special, which is basically just one of the sandwiches on the menu, marked down for a particular day; usually it is something good. I would almost give the place 3 stars, but it just isn't quite there. The staff seems kind of uninterested to be there, which is a little opposite of most baristas at the really good, independent coffee shops. For me, the place gets points for being a close, but not much else here is above average.

I came here for a late breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. It seemed to be a local favorite based on the number of customers hanging out with their computers. The food was great although a little pricier compared to similar establishments. I like its location, righ tin the heart of downtown sunnyvale. You can shop at Macy's and walk across the street to enjoy their coffee and outside patio.

I LOVE the bean scene! We used to live down the street, and have since moved up the peninsula. I will make the drive down there or take the train because you just feel SO welcome here. Kenny always remembers us. I'm able to crack jokes with Hugo, Candido & Itsel (sp?). They always want to know how my kids are and they remember my favorites! They also support belly dance from Lunatic Fringe which earns them extra brownie points! :D

Free wi-fi and enough space for it to feel like a REAL coffeehouse.. People are here all day more or less... They have really good food for a place that sells coffee! I love their chicken salad sandwich...nice and toasty! Their chai's are ehhhhh alright. It tastes like Oregon Chai... but their coffee is darn tasty! Sometimes finding an open outlet can be a challenge but you can usually swoop in on someone's spot after they leave to get one! Friendly people, quick service and makes me feel neighbor-hoodly... can't argue with that!

Comfy place to enjoy a cup of coffee or a cappuccino drink, socialize, and spend some time online. Free WiFi, Lots of outlets, and a mix of table seating and comfy chairs. Outdoor seating on tree lined Murphy Street. Friendly staff, light food and snacks at very reasonable prices. Next door to my favorite restaurant, Dishdash. Way better than the corporate coffee that's everywhere.

What a great place this is! A favorite study spot, with the elevating coffee tables and free wi-fi. It can be a bit tricky finding a spot to sit, but don't be discouraged, many people are there for just a meal. Which, by the way, their crepes are fantastic! I have a whole new love for Nutella. They also have the best chai latte in the area!!! (It's all about whatever mix they use...yum!) And don't forget...they have gelato too! Until we get a dedicated ice cream spot in downtown Sunnyvale, the Bean Scene fits the bill very well. I would have given the Bean Scene 5 stars, however it lost a star due to limited accessibility by people who are in a wheelchair, or using a mobility device. The area around the counter is especially tight, but the staff is more than willing to move tables around as needed. Gotta go, I'm on my way there now to grab a chai before work! :-)

A great place to get things done and hang out with friends. We were there for a ~3hr brunch. Nobody seemed to mind us taking up the space for so long. The breakfast crepe is not filled with cheese. It has a good balance of sweetness(crepe) and saltiness(filling), and it is stuffed with bacon. Only wish they made their own pastries. Baking goods just taste better when they are freshly made.

I LOVE this place. Okay, so what if I only order a mocha freeze [$4.15] everytime I go, it's GOOD. So yummy, I'd go there everyday but I must watch my figure :|. Anyways, this place is located on Murphy Ave, seemingly a small coffee store, but not at all. People were friendly whenever I order, and I enjoy sitting on a chair and admiring the different paintings they have up. However, don't compare this place to Starbucks. While Starbucks is speedy with their orders, they sacrifice quality (in my opinion, of course). I mean, their Mocha Frap is nothing compared to Bean Scene's. Bean Scene takes awhile, but I can definately taste the quality in the coffee. In terms of their rush hours...just don't go. Haha seriously, I never go during the rush hours because you'd probably have to wait a long, long while. So I suppose this isn't your place to go if you want coffee-to-go-fast, or somewhere to relax during lunch. But if you go during odd hours, you'll find it pretty empty with a few people here and there enjoying their coffee. I'll update this if I ever have something other than a Mocha Freeze. [p.s. they also have yummy snacks on display + gelato/icecream! ]

Things I like about this cafe: -Sunnyvale Blend Coffee -Bagel and Lox -Pecan bars -The Baristas -The sofas and big chairs -Free Wi-Fi Things I dislike about this cafe: -The wait when you order a sandwich (sometimes it's extensive) -The crowds on the weekend (especially the stroller moms, they clog the aisles) -The fact that they close at 8pm! Even in the summer!! Crazy. Overall, it's my favorite cafe in downtown Sunnyvale, but they don't have much competition either.

coffee: yes, cakes: no quiet little place that's quite nice to go study at if you don't feel like sitting at the library. i like that it's not a big chain like peets/ starbucks [though i really really do like peets' teas!]. call me easily amused, but i was really impressed at the fact that their cappuccino had this awesome design on the foam! i figured that i'd order the princess cake along to make studying for my exam more palatable... but it wasn't very good [SADFACE]. the custard was goopy, too sweet and cloying, while the actual cake was a little on the dry side. by the time i tried to get a chunk using my spoon the cake just kinda fell apart. darn. i guess when it comes to pastries i'd still stick with bijan's.

They take no responsibility at all for selling a really bad product. It was the worst service and the worst orange juice I have ever had. The fresh squeezed orange juice was so bitter it tasted like rind. It was undrinkable. When I talked to the guy at the counter he treated me like it was my fault for ordering it in the first place. He wouldn't refund my money or replace it with another drink. Whatever happened to customer service? I can't believe how rude he was. I will never come here again and urge you to find another cafe.

The coffee is pretty good here as well as the lattes. They also sell some pretty fine pastries. Better than those dry, stale, overly sweet things at Starbucks and Coffee Society. The vegetable crepe is yummy. Some of the other food is not so good. But the people that work here are great. Very freindly! It's definately one of our favorite morning hang-outs. Lots of regulars, nice music, nice ambiance. A place you can linger for a while with the paper and a mug. They are nice to babies here which is always a plus in my book since I have one!

Price for everything is great! Set 1 breakfast is enough for two and it is only $5! The cashier asked me if I wanted everything in a sandwich, but I told her no and it came out the exact way I wanted it. Everyone is friendly. It does get a little crowded on the weekend mornings, but nothing unbearable. I was there at 10:30 on a Sunday, and only waited about 10 minutes for breakfast. I enjoy supporting local. My only complaint is the freshly squeezed orange juice is a hit or miss. Some weekends it is so great! Some it is super sour.

The atmosphere at the Bean Scene is great. It's cute, comfortable and full of nice people. If you are like me and skip the fancy drink to stick with a simple cup of coffee, you'll be disappointed. And if you are there late and are avoiding caffeine, skip the decaf. It is undrinkable. Decaf is not especially excellent anywhere, but I guess nobody at Bean Scene drinks it because it tastes day old. In short, go hang out, have fun and have a cookie!

You have to wait awhile (10-15 minutes) for a sandwich but there is a reason - they use the best ingredients and take care in preparation. The food is delicious and the salads are great! They use roasted red peppers which I love. If you can deal with the chinstrap guy and the wait (it seems like he's the only one who works there!) then you will be well-rewarded with some delicious food.

For those who want a non-chain, local java spot, this one's just fine. Mix of faux leather and wood chairs, groups of regulars who play chess mixed with students and professionals, and the consistently stable free wi-fi. And the coffee is OK, pastries are better.

Best coffee in Sunnyvale, no doubt. I've been here a few times and have had nothing bad, coffeewise. The food sucks. If you order a bagel, be aware that it will come with a side of Philly cream cheese (bleah). I tried the "Set 2" for breakfast once. Only for the desperate. For some reason, you get eggs, ham and a croissant laid out separately on your place instead of together in a sandwich. The cakes are no good either. I think I've tried every single one. "Peanut" butter brownie tastes nothing of peanuts.

I really liked my veggie crepe. It took a few minutes to get, but it was fresh and hot. My friend got a mocha and just loved the little design on it that stayed on top as she drank it. Will be going back. It seemed like the customers knew each other. Just wish there were more seats. Lots of guys using the wi-fi with their computers.

Bean scene is great! it offers great value in the lunch specials.. my all time favorite is their Tunal Melt very delicious with some kind of tomato sauce. Also includes fruit or salad which makes it a complete meal for lunch. Their coffee and atmosphere is great too.. one thing I do not like is their regular coffee for some reason it's way too bitter and over roasted could definitely improve.

The coffee is SO good here I crave it! I'm from Australia where the coffee is mostly Italian - dark roast - and this is the closest I can find to that. Good strong espresso without a burnt or dirty flavor. Bean Scene regulars are like the United Nations, people from all countries, and are all greeted with a friendly smile from the guys who run the cafe. Given time they memorize your order too! Service is great out of peak and the cafe is cozy and warm. Peak time (Farmers Market on Saturday Morning) it is quite chaotic, loads of people squashed in with chairs everywhere. Grab your Latte to go and find a peaceful place somewhere else and enjoy! Oh, and my kids LOVE the chocolate Gelato and the Fruit Salad.

So I have decided to become a local on saturday mornings when I go to the farmers market. I stop by this coffee shop which is always buzzing with people getting their grub on. I grab my almond latte and on many occasion I am tempted to graba a bite to eat. I haven't yet....but theres still time! Good service and fairly quick considering how busy they are. A pretty good latte, one of the few places that I can actually get an almond latte. So far so good!

Love this place. The vibe and the atmosphere is chill and unpretentious. The baristas make a great latte, served in tall glass mugs. Haven't had such a great cappuccino since my days in Roma. Kudos to the Barista that created the foam art on my cappuccino-impressive! Never knew, but they also make a mean breakfast, serve ice cream, and have an entire display of lushious pastries. Located along quaint Murphy Street in Sunnyvale, the community gathers here to people watch, stroll the street to window shop, or come here for the Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings for fresh fruit & veg.

Coffee is consistently good. Food selection is varied, you can get anything from cakes, cookies, crepes (savory/sweet), bagels, fruit to scones. However, sometimes the selections don't look fresh, but I'm picky. Stick to the coffee and you'll be fine. Minus one star because the leather couch is always taken!

Coffee was okay...marginally better than Starbucks. The atmosphere is very bland, but it's not bad either. At least they have wifi. I was looking for an open mic night with local artists, which they had...but it was a high school crowd. There ain't nothin' wrong with that, it just wasn't what I was looking for. Would go back if I was walking on Murphy, but other wise...pass.

I am fortunate enough to have lived within walking distance of downtown Sunnyvale for the past 8 years, and the Bean Scene has been a staple of my coffee consumption for most of that time. The cafe mocha is superb - they use Giardelli's chocolate syrup instead of powder - and has been declared 'the best in the Bay Area' by my wife who considers herself a connoisseur. Their selection of teas is also reasonable (Stash brand, I believe) and their brewed coffees are usually very good. The place is almost always busy and has a very friendly atmosphere. The WiFi is now free, but I'm not a big fan of people who stare at laptops in coffee shops all day. On the downside: It is always busy, especially on Saturday mornings during the farmer's market. The hours are also rather limited and variable, especially in the evenings.

What can I say....I need my coffee...and boy do they deliver.... Fresh aromatic coffee....ah...first sip and it's transporting me to another place...LOL I just have to step in the door and they know which coffee I want for the morning or in the evening (coffee twice in a day?). Hey what can I say...The coffee is "GREAT". Oh...and another thing they have there that is great is the gelato...ah...HEAVEN...

a very cool local Sunnyvale spot; one of the only non corporate cool coffee shops in Sunnyvale; great to come on Saterday when there is a farmers market in the morning on Murphy ave; very nice staff and great coffee! if you into this vibe, you will like this place.

I've lived about 5-minutes walk from downtown Sunnyvale for over a year and I finally got around to trying this place out the other day. Pretty good so far. I tried a Caramel White Mocha and a Black Forest Mocha-- yeah, I'm a sucker for mochas in general-- and the latter was definitely more interesting and in fact, better. The former had a chemical taste that was not so appealing. However, it's a nice little place, they certainly have a variety of offerings beyond coffee (including sandwiches, pastries, gelato, and who knows what else they're hiding back there), and while it wasn't empty, it wasn't packed with roaming laptop hackers-- which means more room for me to do that. Downtown Sunnyvale needs to get some mojo back... make this a hangout from time to time, get the ball rolling.

Good coffee and good food. I almost always get the everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. A little pricey in my eyes 2 lox and cream bagels and 2 iced coffees = $20

I'm a bit biased, because they exhibited a few of my paintings, but I like the Bean Scene. My wife likes the pastries, and I like the pearl tea (my favorite is coconut). When summer comes, we hope to try out their ice cream selections. It's a nice place to hang out. People are just sort of lounging around, talking or burying their head in their laptop. It's clean and well lit. Everytime I come, there's a different person serving. If you just want to be with a friend in an inviting place, go to the Bean Scene.

I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who stops by downtown Sunnyvale. The coffee is definitely better than Starbucks. The white mocha freeze is the best! It's a nice place to stop by and have breakfast on Saturdays when they have farmer's market. Wish they had more than one bathroom at this place though.

First time visit. Coffee was good, as was the nutella banana crepe. For that they deserve 4 stars. I also ordered the cinnamon roll with nuts, the only one left and I got... a raisin roll? Silly me, I didn't check the bag I was given and didn't notice til I got home. I told the young girl and pointed to the roll I wanted, tried to tell her I also wanted the crepe but she interrupted and said (twice) "Is that all you want?" I told the lady at the cash register what I wanted as well. It took a very long time for the crepe but at least I had the coffee to sip on while waiting. Yes, I should've checked the bag before I left to make sure I got the right thing, but it would be nice if I didn't have to. Doubt I'll go back, as I didn't have the same

I went this morning around 10:30 AM because I had read good things on yelp about The Bean Scene in Sunnyvale. Boy, was I dissapointed! I figured I would try to support a local coffeehouse instead of my usual home espresso and/or starbucks. The woman behind the counter didn't make eye contact with me until I specifically asked her a question, "Do you have soy milk?" She simply nodded her head and then continued to look off into the distance of nothingness. Seriously, she was super distracted. Then I asked her about a muffin, she looked at the one I pointed to with a look of frustrated confusion, "Carrot-zuccini." So I ordered my triple white mocha with soy milk and waited. While the service was quick, I took it to-go and headed home. When I got home and took a sip (it was way too hot while there) it was the bitterest white mocha I've ever had. Upon further inspection, it didn't seem like she put in any syrup at all! Just espresso and soy milk. Bitter! Desperate, I searched my pantry for MY white mocha syrup (Toriani's is okay, but not great...Bean Scene had Ghiradelli!) couldn't find any, so I just added 20cc's of sugar. Ugh! I generally get the extra shot of espresso because I like the flavor of the white chocolate syrup, but not the overbearing sweetness, so for me to add that much sugar to what tasted like burnt espresso: no good! The muffin was a generous size and tasted wonderful. I don't think I'll be heading back there again.

So the biggest reason I frequent this place is the convenience. I live just about 3 blocks away and especially in the summertime when the farmer's market is going on, I love to walk and get a cup of the coconut coffee and either a crepe (banana/nutella is only 4 bucks) or some other deliciocity they offer. And they have tons! Princess cake, breakfast bagels, homemade gelato. Anywho, Prices are very decent and they have a cabinet wall where you can grab from the drawers checker boards and a checkers set and just chill. They also have a nice little patio area out front and often have evening shows, like a few weeks ago a belly dancing performance. Delightful! All in all, its a great place to hang with friends, set up your laptop and use the free wi-fi or have some gelato and play some cards. Gotta love this joint.

This place has a cool atmosphere and is great place to relax with some coffee or food while surfing. The only downside to it is getting a comfy place to sit. But that is pretty minor. I think the place is great.

Tried this place for the first time this morning, and I'm sad I waited this long! This place easily has the best coffee I've had in the south bay. I don't understand the people who have left 1-star reviews for this place because of the service. At least for us, the service was fast and the people working there were really friendly. Maybe you are one of those people who talks on their cell phone while ordering? I will definitely be going back often.

The Bean Scene is a pleasant cafe to stop and relax when you're in that part of Sunnyvale. I go here a few times a month. The coffee is good, the atmosphere warm and inviting. The barrista is actually quite skillful with the espresso drinks. The cakes and desserts are CONSISTENTLY BAD. The look good, but avoid them. You've been warned!!

Good: -good coffee -interesting atmosphere -decent prices -free wi-fi -great location Bad: -Boba is horrible -food is either bland or is too salty. crepes especially. - the place gets packed with people and sometimes the people behind the counter lose an order since they don't have any sort of tracking system. -needs a decor update -needs more places to sit -sometimes staff are rude. there is one in particular but I don't know his name

Good coffee, location, ok decor, etc. I'd give it four stars, but the service sucks (I'd rather be served by a robot), and the bathroom is just vile. It's like a bad gas station. I'm not very picky about this usually, but it's just gross in there. I'll save you the details.

Do yourself a favor and visit this and other independent coffee shops (like Barefoot Coffee Roasters). The coffee selection here is great and they have wonderful snacks and sandwiches as well. Besides the indoor seating, they do have some tables and chairs outside. A good place to meet friends and enjoy the coffee and other drinks.

Really enjoy going here to relax. I like the almond cappucino and want to try their bubble tea. They have desserts there as well which are really good. I've had their tiramisu and one other dessert. They also have free and reliable wifi. Wish they were open later though.

when i worked across the street (at macys) i used to come here for their mocha freeze, it is SO good. because i knew their mocha freezes are so yummy, i figured their coffee or espressos would be just as good.... i ordered an americano, and let's just say their mocha freeze will always be in my heart. thanks for the memories, bean scene, and keep working on that americano. i'm sure you'll get it some day. blame portland for making me a coffee/espresso snob!

Really nice atmosphere, great service and pretty good coffee. Very kid friendly and plenty of space. I LOVE their cake variety, and the fact that they have Napoleon cake almost every week. This is totally bad for my body and fat but I can't resist...... :-)

I like to support small, local coffee shops, however.... I had an unfavorable experience here. I had a bit of a confusing order: a medium sugar-free vanilla frozen soy latte. When the drink first appeared on the counter, I asked (to be sure) that it was sugar-free. It was not, so the man behind the counter prepared another one. I probably should have asked if it met all of the criteria of the order, but I didn't think about it until it was "ready" again. Then I asked if it was soy. The man was very frustrated, and told me that he would make it again, but that I now needed to pay an additional 50 cents for the soy milk, since they hadn't added that onto the purchase price. So, I had to wait while he prepared another one, and I had to pay more. I found this upsetting since I was a fairly regular customer, and if this had happened at Starbucks, I would have received apologies, rather than frustration and an extra charge. After-all, I did order correctly, since I ALWAYS order soy, and we'd had a discussion about the different sugar-free syrups. I will probably go back if I am nearby, and I really want a coffee. However, I have not been back yet, and will definitely no longer be a regular.

When I was a little girl growing up in New York state, we had a wonderful ritual on Sunday mornings. First, we drove down to the corner drugstore, where my parents picked up the paper, and I got to pick out a comic book. (Donald Duck and Huey, Duey, and Luey going on Indiana Jones like adventures were my favorites.) Then we went to the Capitol Bakery, where we each picked out two baked goods to have for breakfast. Anything I wanted- what a wonderful luxury that was! Over the years, I went through different phases of what my favorites were, and after having left one for a while would happily return to it again, finding it all the more delightful on second (or third) pass, like meeting an old friend after a period apart. So when I saw the bakery display Bean Scene, my heart started to pump a little faster. Could it be? Could they have tea biscuits like at the Capitol Bakery??! YES! They do. For anyone out there who craves a *real* scone, Bean Scene comes to the rescue! If you don't know what I mean, most scones you find in the US are nothing like a British scone. Now, I happen to love the Maple Oat Nut Scone at Starbucks, but it isn't really a scone. The texture is all wrong, and it's sweeter an higher in fat than a real scone. They're both good in their way, but the ubiquity of the American scone makes a British scone a real treat! Bean Scene is right next to the Farmers Market, so maybe I'll have to start a new tradition - Saturday mornings stop at the Farmers Market, and then swing by Bean Scene to pick up some baked goods for Sunday's breakfast!

This coffeeshop in downtown Sunnyvale surprised me with the quality of their mocha. A large place with nice ambience, there are lots of places to sit and enjoy the company of friends, a well-stocked bookshelf, and games.

I came here because of the good reviews and plus I live in Sunnyvale & never gave this place a chance. Hmmmm well after today, Im not going to be in a rush to go back. Came in around 11 30am and it wasnt busy at all. Went to the front with my bro and the two workers (an Asian girl & guy w/ brown hair) there didnt greet us at all and just stared at us like we were some kind of alien species! I ignored that factor and looked at their menu, hoping to be wowed. Ehh it was alrite. They didnt even bother asking if we had any questions about the drink or anything. They just continued on with their conversation. Even when I was ordering, they continued to have their conversation. SO RUDE! I ordered some hazlenut frap drink. Wait time wasn't too bad, considering there were 2 people waiting as well. The thing that REALLY ticked me off about this place was when the guy was done w/ our drinks. He didnt bother saying anything like "Maam, your drink is ready" (they didnt ask for my name) OR say my drink out loud so I can get it. Instead, he had the drink in his hand and made a gesture for me to take it! WTFFF?!?!?! Am I like some kind of monkey?!? He didnt say thank you orr have a good day or SMILE or ANYTHING! I didnt bother saying thank you to him. Lucky enough, my drink was pretty tasty. The hazlenut flavor was really yummy. But I was still ticked off at the service that other yelpers speak highly of. I was hoping to support local coffee areas, but Ive had BETTER services at Starbucks. At least they say have a nice day or thank you. Im not planning on running back to this place just yet. Seriously, greet your customers & when they step in to order, stop chatting amongst yourself! I left as a very dissatisfied customer, considering this was my first time!

Their lattes are delicious. They have lunch and breakfast items as well which is nice. Free wifi, and a few tables outside. Most of the staff are very friendly as well. Best coffee shop I've found in the bay area.

Since we were already in Sunnyvale I thought we would check out the coffee here. The atmosphere is cozy and nice, lots of tables and chairs, cozy sofa. Lots of nice spots to study or work. I liked it. And outside tables too, which is great for that street! The only thing I didn't like was the service. The guy that waited on me did not smile once. My daughter asked him something about one of the pastries in the case and he acted like he did not want to be bothered. I asked him a couple of questions about drinks and again, no smile, no nothing. Poor customer service. Another patron asked for milk, he got it, but never said a word to her, despite the fact she said thank you. Maybe he was having a bad day but still, a smile or a thank you or something would have been nice. I had a caramel mocha.....YUMMY! and we got a slice of Princess Cake......my daughter loved it! Marzipan on the outside, cream, cake and some raspberry jam inside. It was delicious! So, one star deducted for customer service. I will go back and hope it's better the next time.

I used to be quite fond of this place, for awhile it was even my favorite, but sometime this year the Barista changed, along with the old staff which I liked. I never see the owner there anymore, maybe he sold it...? In any case, very unfortunate. I hope they will improve so I can raise this back to 5 stars.

Love these guys! The place is cozy, and the staff are attentive. I do a lot of grading here, so they know me well...to the point that they remember my avocado allergy, and are very careful with my food (avocado's a staple on their sandwiches). The coffee is always good. Always. I've never had anything bad here.

Good coffee & a nice snack menu but the service at the bean scene is awful...the food always takes ages & in my experience there's often stuff missing from the order...could be a really nice place if they focused on the customer service a little more

Very good lattes and espressos - far better than Starbucks and ahead of Peets. The staff here is very nice and aims to please. The desserts look very appealing although I haven't had the opportunity to try any yet.

I liked the ambiance immediately I walked in. Quiet and spacious, yet has a homey feeling to it. I love places like this. I came here after work to meet up with a friend. I didn't want to be up all night from coffee and had dinner plans afterwards so I ordered hot tea and a banana & nutella crepe (been craving crepe all week too). So you can't really mess up banana & nutella crepe and it hit the spot, but doesn't taste as good on a plate as getting it from a stand in Paris. I would love to come back and try their breakfast crepe and coffee another time and earlier in the day.

I love this place! It's a great place to study or to meet up with friends and chat. Granted, most of the times it is quite crowded (I went here on a Tuesday at around 10 am and there were no seats), but they have comfy chairs and couches. Also they give you drinks in cute mugs if you ask for it! I LOVE the chai latte here, and I love that they serve different types of food like baclava here! Their tiramisu is DELICIOUS and huge :)

Pumpkin muffins. Good music. Old, broken-in couches. Nice staff. Low-key vibe. The only thing that stops this place from getting 5 stars is that they don't serve hash browns with breakfast, and there are never enough plugs for laptops. I charge mine before I go and have a fine time.

This may be my favorite coffee spot in the Bay Area. I lived in Sunnyvale not far from downtown for over two years and I was a regular at The Bean Scene for nearly the entire time I lived there. They have comfy chairs and couches inside, if you can get one, and free wi-fi. Saturdays are a zoo because of the Farmer's Market, but Sundays are mellow and relaxed. There are a few tables outside, but you can feel a bit in the way of pedestrian traffic if you get stuck by the building or on the inside of the street-side tables. Regardless, I usually opt for a table outside if weather permits. Murphy Ave is nice because it tends to stay cool and breezy even on warmer summer days. Oh yeah, and they have good coffee, and the staff was great when I was a regular -- they new my drink in no time. Hi Freddy! And the regulars are great too -- Hi Patrick! Also, they're a great local business to support. For me the Mountain View location leaves much to be desired, but I LOVE the Sunnyvale Bean Scene.
