I came to Cancun expecting real good food. The restaurant is real nice but the food is horrible. My spouse and mother in law ordered shrimp cocktail and what they got was unbelievable. No avocado no cucumber and can you believe they said they didn't have no more ketchup !! What kind of restaurant has no ketchup. The waitress should have let us know before we got our plates! And to make matters worse she said she would discount us for the inconvenience but we feel like we were over charged! Won't be coming back

Use to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in town but now they have lost their passion to make great food. Last time coming here for sure.

Cancun restuurant on E Miner St in Stockton, California. Yelp Challenge 43/100 My last two visits to Cancun have been really great. I was very surprised with the excellent service my children and I received on both visits. My kids can be very picky and a waitress/waiter's nightmare. Because they dont want this or that and add a little this and that. Cancun is pretty spacious inside and offers a banquet hall for large parties. There's an upstairs but the times I've come it's always closed off. There are booths to sit and it's big enough for about five people. Theres also tables to sit if you don't like booths. When we dined at night it's kinda dark inside. Maybe it's set for a romantic mood, I'm not sure. When we cameback for a first-time in a long time. We came to eat after watching Disney on ice. My Princess had the beef taco lunch and she liked it a lot. My son had the # No7 enchilada and taco. Beans and rice on a separate plate. He likes it that way no gravy and beans and rice have to be on the side always. I had the quesadilla lunch and it was pretty good. Our latest visit my eldest daughter hit me up and said "Dad I'm craving Mexican food" So my tribe and I hit up Cancun once again. My eldest daughter chose the No #22 Cheese quesadilla and chili relleno dinner. She really liked the quesadilla and didn't finish the chili relleno and took that home. My Son had his No#7 again chicken taco and cheese enchilada beans and rice on a separate plate. I looked up for a quick second and he told me he's done lol. He killed it with the quickness. My youngest daughter had the child's plate which has chicken, beans and rice. She didn't want gravy over the chicken just in a bowl so she could dip her chicken in. She got really full off the beans and rice alone and we took the chicken home. She liked her meal. I had the burrito lunch with gravy over the burrito with beans and rice. It was pretty good, just the right amount of meat inside. I love beans and rice, I grew up eating that basically 7 days a week. Each time we dined in, we had a blast talking and enjoying our dinner. "The simple things in life". I've said this many times and I'll keep on keeping on. As long as my children are having a great time that's all that matters. I don't care about the dumb stuff, ya digg? Doing what this Daddy does best, spending time with my three children. My kids are my world and everything else in life is a bonus. Sincerely Vincent D. So yeah VD and his kiddos will be back. Vincent D aka VD aka Vebola aka Vincent Vega. Always, Enjoying the simple things in life.

Server was rude, food was disgusting period. The corn tortillas were cold too. I started by asking about a Chile relleno lunch, server said "they are made out of can" wow I thought I was eating real Mexican food. I ordered an orchata drink the server then said "and there's no refills on that"! Rude tone of voice. Bad food, bad service. BAD EVERYTHING. One last thing Dirty Bathrooms!

Come here all the time with my hubby, the waitress's are always nice & food is served quickly. You have to ask for gravy and cheese but all in all, this place is a good place to stop for a nice big meal (:

Sometimes as I read reviews, I wonder if we visited the same place. As I see complaints about service or food, I can only relate that my experiences differ. Service from two standpoints has been fine. In October I took 70 of my late wife's friends and co-workers to a memorial dinner for her. On both service and food staff hit a home run for me. As I go in for take out, I'm always quickly taken care of and pleased with my order. I gauge certain places by how they do my favorites, including colorado, rellenos, and tamales. Consistency is what I want and get here.

It's been years since we have eaten here and now I know why ... It's cause food is terrible and the service is bad you get the check when they bring the food and you don't see them again .... Casa Flores is a better choice

I love this place. Ive been eating there since it was at the old location (where the movie theatre is now). My favorite thing to order is the chimichanga dinner.

Just visited Cancun restaurant. Service was slow to start. In their defense there was a huge birthday party going on in the banquet hall. Food prices were reasonable. The waitress we had was extremely engaging. She made sure we were happy with our food. The fajitas were good. Combo meals were a good portion size. Chorizo and egg burrito was just like I make mine. Salsa was fresh. Our group was split on liking the gravy and cheese with chips. I thought it was a unique side. I would order again. Yet my kids thought it wasn't authentic mexican food. It may be from a region we are not used to. I encourage people to give it a try. All in all we enjoyed this spacious restaurant and would go again if we are in the area.

Had to wait 30 minutes for someone to take our order. Got my food, to only wait another 30 minutes for then to bring me silverware and tortilla. Horrible service, plain food. Not happy at all

My family and I ate here tonight. We are a family if six and they made it seem like it was an inconvenience to put two tables together for us to sit down. Then it took 10 minutes for our server to come to our table and probably another 10 to get our drinks that were completely wrong. The service was horrible and the food was okay. I won't come back.

I have been going to this restaurant for thirty years at both locations, and it is not what it used to be. The service is atrocious. The food was marginal. It's sad that a good restaurant like this used to be, is in decline. The waitress acted like we were bothering her, by asking for chip and soda refills. She did come by once to see how things were going, but it was after we received our food. ~Safe visit.

This is my go to place for date night with my girlfriend, the staff are always very nice and happy. The food is great and cheap. I never leave hungry and still my wallet never takes too much of a hit. With my girlfriend the cost of our meals combined never really goes over $15, and we never have a bad time.

So after hearing some good words about this place I wanted to go check it out myself and try it out. But I was let down very bad I was hearing good things about this place and how the food is great and things like that. When I walked in I was not greeted at all and it was a find your own seating kind of place. So as I went to a table of my choice I sat there and one of the employees there was not very helpful at all I was handed a menu and was told the waiter will be with me in a min. So I waited for about 20 to 25 mins for the waiter to come and take my order, so I ordered and I happen to want the spicy shrimp dish that was ($12.45) it came with rice, beans, and some lettuce on the side. So as I waited I got some salsa with chips which was probably the best thing I ate there. I had received my food about 35 mins later and I was pretty disappointed with what I had placed in front of me. I have been to many taquerias and Mexican food restaurants and tried many different type of Mexican food and have a good knowledge of what good Mexican food is and this seemed to be made very poorly. The red sauce used for the shrimp tasted like something that came straight from a can that has been sitting up on a shelf for a long time and the beans and rice were ok, I also had got some homemade tortillas well minus the homemade part it looked and tasted like tortillas I buy at wal mart of Safeway. So I can say I was very disappointed with the food and overall visit with this place. The food had made me not want to finish my plate and in fact I didn't finish the food I ate most of the shrimp trying to get pasted the nasty taste of the red sauce and had eaten all my "homemade" tortillas and that was it I had enough of the food didn't want to take left over home because I knew I wasn't going to eat it. So just a FYI if you like not so much true Mexican food stop by this place and they have it. I would much rather go to Taco Bell or Baja Fresh which both I know are not real Mexican food either but I know I would enjoy it more then the food I had here.

I've been coming to this place since it was in the old location. I used to go with my mom when I was just a little girl. My favorite place to eat in Stockton.

My fiancé and I came into have lunch and despite being the 2nd guest there we were handed chips and salsa by 1 waiter and not offered water . The 2nd waitress came 15 minutes later and we asked for a substitute in one of our burritos and she was rude and said no, we asked for water and she didn't bring us water , instead she walked to the back of the waterfall and started eating . So my fiancé got up and asked the girl behind the counter, who was playing on her phone, for a glass of water. She later brought us out food and didn't come back to ask if we needed anything , not until she brought us the check . The food wasn't anything special . The burritos are small and the lettuce looked old . Never coming to this place again.

    Food is hit or miss. My enchilada plate today was ice cold, so much that the cheese was not even melted. We had the waitress at the red hair, she brought us our food and we had no utensils. I had to ask a guy handing out chips and salsa for utensils. She gave us one glass of water and never came back to give us a refill. As soon as our plates came to second letter came the bill and she said thank you and never looked at us again. I was so thirsty throughout my meal, I still am now, lol. She was nice, but not the best . My food was so cold, tasted okay... Would of been better warm. My boyfriend just informed me that he didn't like his shrimp cocktail and I makes me sad because I recommended coming here..... );

  • Karina P.

Hadn't been here in awhile. Came today and was reminded of why I stopped coming here. Bad service. All I heard during my lunch was employees talking about their personal affairs. Employees laughing loudly at the bar area. I had to flag my server down to get a refill on my horchata only to be told it would be an extra charge. Lol!

We ordered 4 chicken tacos... They were on hit.. Really it's hit & miss here.. Sometimes the food is great and other times it is just bland.

Beware!! Old yucky meat, ordered take-out and when opened the beef taco was so dark from sitting around it was black. Everything was slopped together and did not look good! It did not taste good either! Never going back.Taco truck by Home Depot on Hammer Ln is WAY better save your time and $$$ and go there!

Cancun was good about 20+ years ago, maybe ownership was different then? Either way, I'd pick any Casa Flores over Cancun any day. Not to mention that scandal they had years back with the cook getting caught adding his own "special sauce" to the beans! Terrible and maybe considered old news but every time I see this place I can't help but think of how gross that is and feel a major wave nausea. Skip Cancun and go to Xochi's!

    (1)
  • Robert J.

Food is ok service was good except for I ordered the #3 all chicken combination and my wife ordered the #1 all beef combination and we got the same order a chicken taco beef enchilada and a Chilli relleno it was good but I would have liked to got what I ordered

    (2)
  • Kayser P.

It never fails every time I come here there's a guy panhandling right in front of the entrance. It's unwelcoming and uncomfortable. This visit they actually came in and started asking me and my wife for money while we were eating, the employees didn't even stop them. Very unprofessional. The food was just ok

I've been to Cancun restaurant 2 times now and both times I've been very impressed. The food has been great and not to mention the meats are very tender. (I ordered a combination plate that had Chili Colorado, Chile Verde, a taco and enchilada oh and a chile relleno.) The 1st time I ordered that I wanted to have a little sample of everything but after during it the first time I realized how much I liked everything so I had to do it again this time. The staff are very attentive and always have a smile on their face :)

Rude people, zero customer service, and waiters that like to argue with the customers. For me it is sad since I have been coming here before they put the theater in and moved. Oh well when they say nothing good lasts forever their not joking and this place and it's rude sawed off owner could be the poster child for ZERO CUSTOMER service.

To tell you the truth, I've only set foot in this establishment when I was piss drunk. Even when I'm drunk as hell I get worried if someone suggests coming here for our late night drunk snack. The food pretty much sucks...

  • B G.

WORST SERVICE EVER! This place seriously has the most rudest workers ever! They took forever to seat my sister and I and the place was empty! The waitress was extremely rude and took forever at everything and would always disappear. I had asked for a box for my food and she was seriously gone for almost 30 minutes! And then when it came to paying the bill she was trying to be all nice so she could get a good tip. Psh yeah right! I wrote a big fat ZERO on the check and peaced out! The food is alright..its cheap so you pay for what you get! And it comes in small portions so don't expect to get full! Never going to this place again!

As for Stockton Mexican food goes this place is middle of the pack, some dishes are better than others, their biggest down fall is the use pre-maid tortilla's and the waitresses seem to be more interested in gossiping than doing their job. Maybe if they could see there consumers seated instead of being behind a mountain of a staircase would help

It took forever for us to be acknowledged once we sat down. Had to ask for drinks from the bus boy. I had to send my food back after I repeatedly stated no cheese on my enchilada. The beans and rice suck as well.

This place did not surprise me at all the hostess messed up orders and the burritos and all the food was over priced because i ordered carne asada and there was tiny pieces in it, it was stuffed with beans guacamole and sour cream worst burrito i ever had best thing they had was the chips and salsas, nothing else not recommended go to a lonchera instead and get your moneys worth

    Very average food and service.

I've never liked the food here. It isn't authentic at all, and I'm sure I'll catch a lot of hate for this, but they cater to non Hispanic people from how they cook the food. My ex in laws enjoy this food, however, and so I have to endure it from time to time during family dinners.

My second favorite Mexican spot. The rice is absolutely delicious. Sucks that the portions aren't that big. My favorite is the gravy and cheese. I cant ever go in here with out ordering it. Overall food is cheap and there's always seating. Not too shabby.

Good place to eat in downtown Stockton, where decent restaurants are few and far between. If you grew up on Stockton Mexican places like Tio Pepe's, you'll be happy here -- the two are so similar that some meals even share the same menu number! Great burritos and enchiladas, plentiful chips and salsa, and a neat dining atmosphere between the giant fountain and the people-watching that downtown restaurants provide.

Awful food, and even worse service. Do not come here if you are white, as you will not get waited on at all. Been here a couple of times, first time I just chalked it up to having bad service, but the second time there were literally tables of people getting waited on around our party. My mother and her cousins that go out once a month for a big party dinner had the same situation happen to them. After 45 minutes they finally went up and complained because their order had not been taken yet, some waitress angrily came and took their order. The food came, then they could not get a single refill on their beverages. Stay away, do not support racist businesses. Xochimilco is a couple of blocks away, give them your business. Also, they are delicious, so it is a win-win.

Eek! Methinks not.... that really describes it. I am writing about an incident that took place at Cancun's late this afternoon. Shortly after the meal was served, a cockroach ran across the table. Unknown if it was hiding under the table or under the plate. Stayed still on the table for a few seconds. After some discussion with the server and then another person (possible the shift manager) the dinner was comped on the house. One person had only taken a couple bites of her dinner. The manager's comment was "They seem to be coming out of the woodwork!" I have been there a few times in the past. Dissatisfied with the food (quality and portions) and with the service. The servers seem to congregate towards the back of the bar and to try and get their attention is quite a chore. I think the only 'draw' that Cancun's has is its proximity to the movie theater and the fact they are one of the few places that are open past midnight. The hallmark for me for local Mexican food is Tio Pepe's on March Lane. The quality is consistent, the portions generous, the price is a good value and the service is very good. I will never return to Cancun's....

People die every year from various ailments. This is already established to the point where even fifth graders know that women die of heart disease. Scientists have missed one sole cause of death. CANCUN. This restaurant deserves 0 stars - honestly. I love mexican food, yes, authentic mexican food. Not this taco bell crap people keep mentioning. This place takes mexican food, dips it in raw sewage, rolls it in garbage and 6 month old oil, and charges you for it. Honestly, the hospital is a couple of streets away, you might as well go there to meet your early, rather unfortunate food-induced death. Just don't go here - it will make you nauseous. Perfect Blend? Heck no techno

There are two or three Mexican restaurants in Stockton that serve the same kinds of foods...Cancun, Tio Pepes and Don Luis. Out of those three this is the last place I come...its only if maybe I just picked someone up from the train station and its like 11pm on a Saturday. Even then its a stretch to come here.. its in a pretty bad part of downtown Stockton...they have cleaned up the neighborhood a little but its still downright scary to try and get to your car sometimes. So in Bubba's review he talks about how he is writing about an incident that "took place" in Cancun where a cockroach ran across the table. I was there at that table when it happened. Its a completely true story. Even if it wasnt for that, the service here is HORRIBLE. Someone will usually come by and bring you chips and salsa but after you order you dont usually see your server till your food comes and then when you get the check. They hang out together talking and laughing back in the entrance to the kitchen. I have had to actually go up to the counter and act like I was paying to have them refill my soda. The gravy and cheese is decent but not as good as Tio Pepe's and not even close to Don Luis. I had high hopes for Cancun when it moved to their new location when they were building the downtown cinema, but it never fails to disappoint me. Usually I try and give a business a few more tries but Cancun is out of chances for me. I will most likely not be back.

Went there for the first time today for some food to go. Walked in around noon and was helped right away. So props to the customer service. I ordered a super burrito with carne asada and it was probably the worst burrito I have ever had. The meat was dry, hard, and disgusting. The rice were also not very good. After few bites I kept getting chucks of fat and ended up throwing the burrito away. I would never go back.

This was my go-to Mexican Restaurant when working downtown for a quick and reasonably priced lunch. They moved across the street once the cineplex came to town and can accommodate more guests; I'd have to say I preferred the old location on the corner of El Dorado and Miner Ave, a bit more intimate. This joint has fed the masses that work downtown ever since I can remember. Pop into one of the many booths and enjoy your lunch.

Cancun has been a Stockton tradition for ages, yet their food has never aspired to be anything more than mediocre. I remember visiting this place at it's original location as a child (currently the downtown movie cinema) and having a blast playing with the mini jukeboxes that sat at every table. My palette back then was rather simple, so a bean burrito more than satisfied my appetite. Fast forward 20 years to the new location (across the street and down the block from the original) and my improved taste buds, yet the food has remained stagnant. I know Cancun has it's loyal followers, but I cannot willingly eat here without it being 1:00 AM and under the influence from a few stiff drinks from Bradley's bar first. Even then, it's one of those meals you tend to regret the next morning as your busy burping it up the majority of the day. If you like red gravy coating every inch of your plate, plain tortillas (upon request only), ice-cream scoop beans and rice, with a decent atmosphere then Cancun is your place. Just make sure you take those TUMS before crashing out. Fun Fact: I've been to a few different dinner parties hosted at Cancun. They ranged from nicely handled (in the main banquet room) to completely ignored (tables sectioned off at the front), so it's touch and go in the regard. The bar tends to make sloppy drinks (which is great!), but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for them.

    1. When we asked what sopas were, the waiter said, "Uhhhmmmm, I need to axe someone else because my brain is like...." then he made some "wouuwouuu" noise and spun his finger by his head, then wandered off. 2. When the waitress asked at the end how our food was, and we said "honestly, it was really terrible", she then smiled and walked away. It was some of the worst food I've ever had, and Stockton is one of the worst places I've ever been. Head for ze hills.

Came here at 11.30AM to beat the lunch time crowd. It was pretty empty but the waitress took a long time to get us our menus. I ordered the chicken taco plate for $5. It was a crispy taco filled to the brim with chicken and cheese. The taco was a little greasy but that's what I expect. It came with tomato rice, refried beans and a small salad. They could have skipped the salad and I'd still be happy. Chips and salsa were also good. Even with the slow service I'd go back. Can't beat a $5 lunch.

A long-time favorite spot for Mexican food for me and my family! Excellent quality food! Tasty gravy! Beans and Rice is one of the best in town. Parking is ample - you can park on the street in front or on the side for no charge or a back parking lot. Be Careful as the neighborhood has it's vagrants and always begging for money. Service is decent but, the waitresses never look really happy - they're just blah. The food is good enough to get over the boring staff. Great place to have dinner and walk across the crosswalk street to watch a movie at the Regal Cinemas! Their flan is traditional and full of flavor, too.

I went here in May,2010 and we were a group of about 12. So, I was exited to try it because of all the good things people said in terms of the history in Stockton. The decor was on point and really amazing inside. The huge fountain and work on walls were great. They have ample amount of seating! The margaritas barely had any alcohol is what I WOULD SAY. Not exactly sure BUT they were so good. Tasted real chunks of strawberry and blended really well. If you had a hard day that day and wanted to get tipsy then not the drink for you! Let me get to the food. They had good combinations and a decent variety. I'm vegetarian and ended up getting a cheese quesdilla. It was ok...nothing special. Oh well...other people though the taste was ok. Nothing special. The food was overall bland. However, its one of those places you have to try yourself and you might like it. Pretty sure better Mexican places are out here somewhere. The chips were not that great. I honestly think chipotle's chips are WAY better BUT the SALSA is AMAZING!! They have their own lot for parking. I would not go here when its too late though. The area is not that great.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Gravy is the best and nice location. Perfect for before or after a movie.

  • John K.

So how do you rate an iconic restaurant like Cancun? I guess you have to go with the most current experience and with that I can confidently claim this restaurant is no higher than 2.5 stars. First, this thing about the place serving "gravy" as a side is just wrong on so many levels! The forementioned gravy, as all Mexicans know, is in fact the mole that makes the dish authentic. Some moles are black, red, with chocolate, sans chocolate etc. But to call this gravy is sacrilege. Now, granted the so called gravy is quite tasty, it lacks an authenticity and spice factor that caters to the more general public. General public meaning people that aren't used to spicy rich mexican food that uses manteca (lard), among other things to make the food rich and delicious and sleepy ;) So from what I remember, the chicken tacos were very good but greasy, the enchiladas are filling, and the rice and beans are adequate. For a bit of nostalgia, if you remember the original location on the Northwest corner of the movie theater and the push button juke boxes at the tables, up the rating to three stars. My dad loved this place and I guess I have a soft spot for the original Cancun.

Had dinner here the other night. The waitress took our order & never came back with our drinks or silverware. It took forever for our food to come out too. The food is ok there. You get what you pay for. The restroom was dirty with no paper towels either.

NOT GOOD FOR VEGANS! The beans are cooked in lard and they do not have boiled beans. I ended up having a tostada with lettuce, guacamole and rice. The orange juice was not very good either. My boyfriend got cheese cake and was pretty sure it was just Sarah Lee from the grocery store freezer section.

    (1)
  • Ruth C.

I've had worse but I've had far better. The salsa was watery, and what it lacked in flavor and substance it made up for in kick. The rice was remarkably bland, and everything was more deep-fried than I expected. I had the number five combo with the beef taco, cheese enchilada (underwhelming), refried beans (yawn), and steak ranchero (don't recommend it). I sampled my boyfriend's chile colorado though, and I was in heaven. Perfectly made, just as he described it (he sampled it at an event they catered, and if it keeps that well on the hot box...), and definitely worth coming back for. For dessert I had their flan, which I can never really argue with. Lots of parking within walking distance due to the proximity to the movie theatre. Gaudy decor, and the layout of the place looks structurally unsound. So basically if you pay them a visit, don't sit too close to that looming overhang without a pillar in sight, and have the chile colorado.

  • Debra M.

The server seemed distracted and nearly forgot to take our order which, believe it or not, was the one good thing about the place. Turns out she was doing us a favor. Everything tasted old and stale at best, though some was completely unpalatable. By the end of the meal I was literally bent over a commode in their bathroom losing what little I'd managed to choke down. Complaints to the waitress uncovered that the cook had quit, so the owner was coming in and cooking everything in the mornings, then they were reheating it plate by plate for the customers. Food tasted stale and old because it was. We were essentially paying for leftovers from that morning that was being reheated, plated and served by the waitstaff. At ten or more dollars a plate, i don't expect to reheated leftovers, and I certainly don't expect something so bad it will make me vomit. If that's what you're into, great. You'll love this place. If not, you probably want to eat somewhere else.

I miss the old Cancun...you know when it was across the street before there ever was a movie theater downtown. I miss the friendly staff and pleasant service. The food is like any other Mexican cuisine in this town. My dad knows one of the owners or managers so when he is working we get discounts hence the 2 stars. I only prefer sitting in the inner square as previous visits on the outside have left me waiting too long for waitresses to ever notice you on busy days.

The food here is super yummy and the gravy with cheese is the bomb! However the service is horrible! I have been coming here since I was a kid and I'd definitely say they are my favorite, just gotta deal with the service. Best salsa of all the places in town too.

I wish I could give a zero star rating for this place, but unfortunately, yelp won't let you. The place has never been very good, but the last time I went here, our company had booked the banquet room for a Christmas party. MISTAKE! First off, the banquet room hadn't been cleaned since its last use. We couldn't find anyone to clean the room, so we ended up busing the tables ourselves and wiping everything off before the guests arrived. Next we couldn't get anyone to provide silverware and glassware, so we ended up going into the kitchen and getting it ourselves. Next, about a half hour into our pathetic "party" the waitress shows up to take orders. She was instructed which menu items the guests were allowed to order and to provide pitchers of refreshments for each table. What does she do? She allows the guests to order whatever they want and allowing them to get individual drinks as well. This is what was the kicker, though. They started to allow outside diners into the "RESERVED" banquet room for service. We demanded to see the owner and he got real belligerent with us stating that it was his prerogative to seat who he wanted where he wanted and that the whole banquet room wasn't reserved to our party.WTF!! Next we noticed the waitresses were taking orders from the diners who were let into our room and putting their meals on our tabs. After that, all hell broke loose and a full-on argument with the owner ensued, who never backed down and basically gave us the middle finger. I can't tell you how good or bad the food was because myself along with several other people never got our food. This place SUCKS, their staff SUCKS and the owner REALLY SUCKS! Please don't patronize this jerk with your business. There's a lot of other options for dining in Stockton, especially when it comes to Mexican food.

The food is just OK, I have not been in a while because it is a bit of a trek for me and just not worth it. The food is boring, nothing tastes all that great and honestly it almost tastes like frozen dinner material :-( It has a private lot but it's so small it's dangerous to park in, and there are not many spots. Street parking is hard to obtain, you might end up walking a bit, the area has improved as far as safety goes but not enough for me to want to walk around at night for very far.. The last time I went there was a homeless person RIGHT outside the door begging for change *sigh* I almost tripped over him he was so close to the door and he scared the CRAP out of me :-(

Thanks for always being here Cancun...The meals are always tasty and the service is always manageable. But damn I do love me some gravy and cheese for the chips!

No plans to eat here again. I've dined here a few times and I've always left unsatisfied. You play the waiting game a lot, and the food quality isn't that good. There are plenty of other spots to go to for tasty Mexican food in Stockton. Wouldn't recommend Cancun to anyone.

This place has the worst service in Stockton. The waitress treat you like crap, that i was afraid to ask for a refill on my water. Ate here a couple of times to make sure it wasn't just me. The food is good on certain days and i cant figure out why. Maybe its because i was drunk after i got out of the bar across the street, who knows.

I really did not enjoy this place. We stopped there because we were having a discussion about Manny's and suddenly wondered why we were headed to Manny's because none of us was really all that enthralled with the place the last time we went. PF suggested this sit-down Mexican restaurant, implying it was like our beloved Rosalinda's. It. Was. Not. The food came very fast, but it was just okay. I got a 1 chicken taco platter. I ordered a child's plate for my finicky toddler. PF got a chile relleno platter. Our friend's family got two a la carte tamales, an a la carte taco, and a taco salad. Oh, and we got 3 flat sodas to boot. Meals, all lunch specials or a la carte except the taco salad, in total cost us about $40. At any taqueria, we'd be hard pressed to pay $25, and the food would have been MUCH better. For example: the overcooked pinkish rice was both dry and in the shape of an ice cream scoop. It also looked suspiciously like microwaved Uncle Ben's. The child's chicken plate came with a heavy layer of gravy (think canned chicken gravy, and you'd understand the heaviness.) The taco was okay though. The service really sucked. I don't usually say stuff like that. We had to get our own menus, napkins, forks, etc. by stealing them from all of the open and empty tables (all set for 2.) We were squeezed into a booth because the bigger one was taken and we had to seat ourselves. I don't usually mind this stuff, mind you. But the busser who came to deliver menus brought us all of two, and two waters, and then I don't think he ever came back with the rest. We had 3 children and 3 adults and 1 teenager. The waitress who served us was curt, not very sensible, and appeared to be harried and overworked. Which was weird. Because unless she was cooking the food, there was no reason for it. The place was pretty much empty. Things I noticed: Weird layout for seating, almost like they are trying to be the peppermill or something. Unecessary fountain sculpture Xmas decorations are still up Bathroom was clean Someone tagged the seat in our booth with some crazy giant graffiti that was never removed. Taco was deep-fried flour tortilla, and deep fried chicken breast. Salsa fell short of good. Chips were not very exciting/sorta stale. I won't go back.

Americanized Mexican food! Your order comes out literally 5 minutes after you order it. Which leads me to think every thing has been sitting there all day under heating lamps waiting to be put together and served. Store bought tortillas, bland salsa and stale chips. But hey, some people like that. People that don't often eat home made mexican food. Boo!!!!

The place was practically empty, yet there was no server for 10 minutes. My mom had to ask for a waiter. The food was expensive but only okay and the refills on sodas were a dollar. I spoke to the manager who was rude and didn't care to make any changes in fact said he was laying down in an office while the employees searched for him on that night. This place is dirty, the servers are lazy and rude and the manager is a jerk. I know the kitchen has issues. I will not go back.

Horrible place. The service is negative 100. Waited at least 30 minutes then left to Tio Pepe's 'round the block. The place did not look that crowded. Me and my buddy were hungry. Obviously they don't care for their customers.

Ok what can I say I have been going to Cancun's for a very long time since the last location where the server knew what we wanted to eat and drink, sad to say she is not there don't know where she went but she should come back! The food is great to me, but everytime I go I say I will not return because the service is bad but I always find myself returning to where I grew up. I like the salsa and my son loves the gravy (don't buy the childrens chicken plate.. chicken has been waiting a long time to see children) burrito's are good , taco's are good and greesey (just like I like them) Margarita's are a bit week. And Yes they do have the Christmas decorations up still and the staircase that leads where exactlly?

can you really rate a place negative 5. brother in law found 5 pieces of hair in his food, he really thought my sister had been playing a trick on him. Cancun is really a sick establishment. Do not go there I know I will only recommended this place to people I HATE. ****HAIR IN FOOD, PREPARED USING UNSANITARY FOOD PREP PROCEDURES.***

ok so i use to really like this place, i still think its decent but my friend had pointed out that "everything taste the same". at first i was like ok your just hating, but after she said that i realized she was right. maybe cause everything is covered in their gravy, which is good but yeah it makes it all taste the same. i probably would have given this 3 stars, but my sister found 2 bones in her chicken taco. ewww i so hate that! come on take the time to get the bones out people! second their bathroom was gross!!! they need to go and check in on them every now and then. also other yelpers are right, they are not very friendly. i also noticed after i left there i felt severely sodium overdosed. no bueno on that.

Personally I make trips from Sacramento just to eat here with my room mate. Although, I know that this is because I have been going to this restaurant since I was a child when it was located on the corner where the movie theater is now. It's nostalgic for me. So, This place has my favorite chicken taco in the whole wide world and THE BEST gravy dip ever. However, I realize that this kind of Mexican food is not for everyone. It's very greasy, even for Mexican food, and the environment is pretty tacky, but in my experience every family owned Mexican restaurant is tacky. They use chicken gravy instead of beef gravy and jack cheese instead of cheddar. Some people are bothered by their variations but I love them. Mostly the variations on the taco. Usually that food comes within ten minutes and the service is friendly. If you are so unfortunate to meet the owner just laugh at his face, He is a small arrogant Mexican man who thinks he's Pablo Escobar. Very pompous. But I will always go to this restaurant, I'm addicted to the taco and chips and gravy. Plus, it's super cheap. They have a large banquet room which my family has had over 50 people in, so it's good for parties.

Aah, Cancun. What can I say except that you've been there? You've warmed my spirits with cocido on cold, bitter days. I sit on the elevated platforms containing your booths and watch the world, and families and groups of friends, pass by, grow up, and begin families of their own. I eat enchiladas suizas when I'm feeling nebbish and quesadillas, with gravy on the top, when I'm ravenous. You've been serving me dinners for under five dollars since I was under five. Your tacos can sometimes be greasy, and your tables are occasionally marked with the remains of a former patron's glass of water, but those things make for more memories. I'll keep coming back for your spoonfuls of gooey rice, your beguiling wall murals, and for the sense of passing time I feel whenever I dine here.

We love this place! We've been going here for years, and it's our fav Mexican spot in Stockton. The service is fast and I always get the chicken enchiladas which are delicious. The $1 gravy dip is the bomb and my bf orders it every time. It's cheap, fast, and good. The building has an authentic Mexican feel and the people are always super friendly to us. It's in the heart of downtown and makes a nice night for dinner, movie, and a walk by the water all from one parking spot.

This place doesn't knock your socks off but it is some good food for the price. Service is ok but the young man that sat us had one to many hole in his face "earings are for your ears".

Once hailed as one of Stockton original greats has sadly become the poster child for mediocre generic Mexican food, right next to the majority of the Casa Flores restaurants.... I have fond memories of Cancun from my childhood, enjoying the mariachi bands, chicken tacos, and being in love with the well endowed Aztec chick painted on the wall.. I was good at entertaining myself, but bugging the shit out of my parents by continuously flipping through the music selections at the table-side jukebox.. Now Cancun is just a last resort after a long night of boozing at Bradley's and messing with the patrons of the Ave Bar on the corner aka "Troll Market"... The slop served here now only serves as a means to coat my stomach from the multiple AMF's that were previously consumed.. I now understand why I've seen soo many victorious "Dine & Dashers" while I've eaten here during the late night/early morning hours... It's just not worth you're money!!!! Go up the street to Xochimilco instead...

It seems like a lot of people have had experiences here that sound pretty crappy, but I can only comment on my experience here. The place was empty despite a major event having just gotten out of the arena, so it was nice and spacious (crowded restaurants are a pet peeve). The food was pretty good and super cheap for the quantity we got, our waitress was nice, and they had good drink prices. I'll be going there again soon, so if I have a bad experience I'll definitely change my rating, but for now this is my favorite Mexican food place in Stockton.

Cheap lunch menu. I have been going here off and on since high school and I have only eaten the lunch specials so my experience here is limited. The chicken burrito with gravy is pretty good and I said cheap.. so that is why you have 3 stars.

Cancun will never be the same since it moved. Maybe the table jukeboxes and odd placed booths help the memory of the food being so good. But this place is not the same.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
