Over priced average food. Left hungry and thirsty. We had 2 drinks guacamole and ceviche for $100. Won't return

Mexican food on a warm summer night...it's tough to get much better than that. My aunt & I had to wait for an outside table, (which was more than worth it). The perfect weather was just screaming to be enjoyed with some drinks, so my aunt ordered a Victoria beer & I ordered a Lovely 'Rita (basically a fancy strawberry Margarita). I was more than a little bummed when the waiter told me that they don't serve blended drinks (how is this not an option when you serve Margaritas?!), so I had mine on the rocks. Maybe it was because I always have my 'Ritas blended, but for a restaurant with "Tequileria" in the name, I was underwhelmed. I like my 'Ritas on the sweeter side, and this one was more bitter & very strong. In all fairness, I rarely drink so pretty much everything seems strong to me, but I had to add some some water to it so that I would be able to enjoy it with dinner. And speaking of dinner...I had the Chicken Tinga tacos without cilantro (rotisserie chicken, tomatoes, chipotle, avocado, queso fresco, crema). Initially, the flavors seemed well-balanced with just the right amount of spiciness where you think it's about to be too hot before it mellows out to a nice tingling where you're able to taste everything instead of your mouth being on fire. My only gripe was that after I was about halfway through my three tacos, the tomato flavor became overwhelming. I wish there would have been less tomato with more cheese to add a bit of sharpness & more onion to add more sweetness. The soupiness of the tomatoes also made the tortillas soggy, so the tacos lacked an element of crunch. (I hope it's not too obvious that I'm a Food Network addict!) My aunt's order of the Local Mixed Vegetable tacos was absolutely delicious! Each bite gave you a different vegetable taste and the sugar snap peas gave it awesome crunch & texture. I'm a total carnivore & would have never thought to order tacos with anything other than meat, but Copita's veggie tacos definitely proved me wrong.

I have been to Copita on multiple occasions and have always had a lovely experience. The food is authentic and fresh. Joanne Weir is the consummate professional. I have been following her work for many years. She is an amazing teacher and her PBS series is excellent. I was lucky the other day to finally meet her. She was very gracious. She was in the middle of working with photographers but took the time to speak with me. I can't recommend Copita enough. The food and service is wonderful and it is a great place to kick back and enjoy life. Go and have a good time. The margaritas are fantastic too!

I wanted to love this place, I really did. I have a thing for Mexican food; I can eat it all day everyday. But after going here, I think I'm better off sticking to my taquerias in the Mission in SF. The service was okay, nothing too extraordinary. They didn't have a kids menu so when I asked, the waiter said they do have food for kids, it's just not in print. What? How will your patrons know to order for their kids if you don't have a menu for it? Good thing I asked. I ordered the carne asada tacos. They give you an option of 2 or 4 tacos. I ordered two thinking they were decent sized or filled at least. I thought wrong! They were so tiny! Most of it was the meat and just the salsa drizzled over and a wisp or two of lettuce. That was a snack for me. Actually, the kids order had more food than I did! The food wasn't bad, but I wouldn't pay that much money for something that wouldn't even make me full.

the food was very tasty...too bad they completely screwed up the order. We were a table of 8 and they managed to deliver 3 correct plates...not good. Then the service took so long my meal had to be packaged to go (sorry but waiting 45 minutes for a chile stuffed with some goodies is a bit too long). The service was a total disaster. The waiter didn't know half of the items on the menu. Another waiter apologized for his lack of understanding. An order of 3 beers (for adults) took 40Min to get to the table. Great location, nice interior, good food but a crap service experience. Unfortunately, we'll probably not go back and or recommend the place. We will stick with Sushi Ran and some of the other spots. This operation is counting on never seeing repeat customers due to all the tourist. Too bad for us locals.

We happened to be hungry and in the area, so we checked Yelp and chose Copitas. We are so happy we did. From the yummy guacamole and warm chips to the excellent carnitas and Tikka tacos, we were happy diners. Highly recommend!!

Thank you for the great job of helping with my wife's birthday. The drinks were great margaritas and beer The appetizers guacamole and chips were top notch, I have had better chips I had the carnitas and it was fantastic The tacos also looked good. I was almost worried about the service but just then I started looking around our friendly but busy young lady would show up. She took the birthday cake from me and lit the candles and then sliced. Thank you

This is a hip, cute little Mexican restaurant in downtown Sausalito that it pretty good. They're plates aren't overly huge, but they are packed with flavor. We got chips & salsa to start out with and the salsa was fantastic. I then got the pork belly tacos, which I could eat everyday for the rest of my life. The only thing I didn't care for on the tacos was the pickled onions, which I thought overpowered the pork. Will I be back? Definitely!

Gorgeous location with delicious food. A friend and I stopped by for a late lunch on a weekday. We were immediately seated with no wait. The staff is very friendly and engaging. I recommend starting with the chips and salsa even though you have to pay for them. It comes with a traditional salsa and a salsa verde. Both were divine. I had the carne asada tacos and the mushroom and chorizo quesadillas. The quesadillas are more like empanadas, but were fantastic. This isn't an inexpensive meal, but it was fantastic food in a beautiful setting.

Great little place in Sausalito. I had the quail (first time eating quail) served with veggies and it was fantastic! It was very small, but then again it was just an appetizer, but perfect as I wasn't all that hungry. The chips and salsa were very good also. The waitress was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again with my EC ;)

The guacamole was very fresh. Red onion gave it a great little kick. The margarita was simple and delicious. Tequila, lime juice and agave. Will be back the next time I'm in town!

I parked in the parking lot right across from this restaurant and decided to check it out. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5....the service. It seemed a little unorganized when hostess as us where we wanted to sit. When we were seated it took them a while for someone to come to our table. As I was about to walk out somebody finally came with water. It wasn't even busy for them to take that long. I saw three people folding napkins and drying off dishes instead of waiting tables. The couple next to us waited for a long time for their food also. But when the food comes it is DELICIOUS! It's hard to find good Mexican food in the area but this is hands down one of the best. Their green salsa that comes with the chips is to DIE for. And the margaritas are great. They just gotta work on the service.

Great date spot alert! Def my favorite Mexican gem! Really loved the trio of ceviches along with their margarita. The carnitas are succulent and my server paired it with this amazing tequila. The ambiance was unpretentious and we felt the warmth not just from the open fire, but from great service! Will be back very soon! Salsa was a little hot for our taste and when we told the server she offered to ask the chef for a mild one. They brought one without spice for us.

I have always loved heading over the bridge to check out new sausalito dinner spots and now I've got another great restaurant to add to the list. I was first blown away by the setting. Really cool vibe going on in this place and the wall of tequila and ovens right there next to the dining area just made us feel like we were in someone's kitchen. Someone's kitchen with a ton of tequila that is... The service was great and the meal was excellent. I walked away without feeling too full (which is typical for most mexican restaurants), just a little tipsy from the insanely good margaritas. Overall, this is a killer new mexican spot with a great location and a great start. Already looking forward to the next visit.

Awesome chicken tortilla soup w lots of avocado, great margaritas made on the rocks - or I guess "rock" since they use just one big ice cube - old fashion style The polenta fried oyster tacos were delicious Chips and salsa - loved both of their salsas - chips were just alright.. Overall, Service was great and super friendly, i loved how they gave me jicima and cucumber right when I sat down, they have free wifi, indoor or outdoor seating - great view and nice breeze inside too The roasted chicken, guacamole, and carne asada all looked delicious too! Will definitely come back again soon!

Fast, tasty, Mexican fusion! I'm a native California who's been living in Massachusetts for school. Whenever I come back I'm craving Mexican food. The food here is *delicious*. My partner and my dish was spicy, crunchy, and just the right portion amount. Not too much that I'm still hungry, but not too little either. However, this didn't satisfy my Mexican food craving. It's not your local authentic taqueria burrito that leaves your mouth watering before eating and belly aching after consumption. There are no regrets eating the food here. It's too healthy. I can't taste any of that lard. I still have to go to a grungy taqueria, but I will eat here again. The food is yummy! It's a little pricey, but what do you expect in this location?

We really wanted to try this place after seeing the review on Check Please. I've watched Joanne Weir's cooking show and I respect her food expertise. I was excited to experience Copita. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. My husband ordered the Copita Margarita and I ordered the Autumn Margarita which includes house made cider. Unfortunately, after my order was placed, the waiter came back to inform they had run out of cider. OK. No biggie. It's a busy holiday couple of weeks. I ordered the Pomegranate Margarita, but had to ask about it as I was almost done with my food and it still had not come to the table. The margarita was rimmed with salt and spice, and I was eager to experience the spice. Unfortunately, the margarita was so tangy, and the salt rim did not work. It should have been a sugar rim; the drink was that tangy. My husband said his margarita was really tangy too. Odd. I haven't experienced such a tangy margarita, and I have a high tolerance for tart flavors. I really don't like most margaritas because I think they're too sweet, but this drink was pucker inspiring. They were out of the 24 hour carnitas, again due to the busy time of year. My husband and I shared a plate of 4 neiman ranch beef tacos, which were very nice. We also enjoyed the guacamole and salsa and chips. The wait staff was very apologetic over the poor timing of the margarita delivery and having run out of items. I don't hold that against them. However, I did have to wonder about those ingredients the Bartender was bringing together. The space is very nicely decorated. Really lovely. And the host and wait staff is attentive, and I get the sense they want you to have a good experience. Alas, there is only so much in their control.

Copita was great! My lady friend and I shared: - Chips & Salsa & Guacamole (Delish! We especially liked the tomatillo salsa cruda.) - Coctel Mixto Ceviche (Best ceviche we've ever had!) - 2 Oyster Tacos (A little fishy for our taste. I'd never had fried oysters before, only oysters on the half shell. The taste and texture of biting into an oyster just isn't for me. More of an acquired taste, I suppose.) - 2 Niman Ranch Flat Iron Steak Tacos (Yum. She especially liked these.) - 2 Pan Seared Lobster & Louisiana Shrimp Tacos (My favorite! The sauce was amazing!) I had a Corona. She had one of the cocktails. We can't remember the name of it. It was similar to an old fashion. It was STRONG. Nice bang for the buck. In general, we loved everything! Service was great. Staff was very knowledgeable of all the dishes. Very friendly. Next time we will save room for dessert. I've heard the milk shake is to die for!

This place was good but pricey. Highly recommend the tacos. I got the fried oysters tacos and my friend got the mahi mahi tacos and we split them. It was amazing. Better than I expected! The crunchiness of the oyster with coleslaw veggies on top was refreshing and delightful. The fish was perfectly seared; tropical and juicy with the pineapple salsa and al pastor. I might've slightly preferred the fried oysters more but getting both was the perfect choice. They serve you this cucumber and some radish like sticks for free covered in like paprika. Crunchy! We also got the chips and guacamole. Chips were a bit tough. The waitress was really nice too. My other friends got the enchiladas. It seemed really heavy just cause the sauce was on the sweeter side. My friend wanted to get the chicken originally but they ran out and would take 2 hours to roast so that tells you something I guess! It's probably really good. It's pricey-ish comparative to other Mexican places but it's Sausalito and the ingredients they use should make up for it. $21 for 4 oysters tacos and $19 for the mahi mahi. Not bad. Guacamole $9 which were pretty good but that's pricey for me haha. Especially since you have to buy the chips with it for $5.

Loved the carnitas. Great guacamole and sauce. Those drink, Wow! The only disappointment were the Bunelos. They lacked flavor. But the manager was very good and offered a replacement or taken off the bill. We had excellent service. If you're ever in Sausalito go in and try there food, you'll love it.

This is a truly amazing place in Sausalito. I am a resident of the area and I was hesitant to try it because it is located in the busy/touristy part of town. I finally made the trip and it has wonderful food, beverages and servers/bartenders. If you are a small party try to sit at the bar and get to know the bartender, Juan Carlos. He will take care of you. As for the beverages, there is an amazing tequila menu that will satiate any connoisseur. The food will satisfy any craving you have, whether it is fresh ceviche, to tacos, to a simple quesadillas. And don't forget about the guacamole! To end your meal, you must try the tequila milkshake. The combination of liquid chocolate and tequila may sound unusual, but you will not regret it! All servers and bartenders are very friendly and knowledgable. Not a place to miss in Sausalito.

Since 5 months ago, I have gone to Copita so many times that I think I can't say that I don't love this place and get a hankering for their Chocolate Milkshake so bad that I convince my friends to take me across the bridge to Copita! Gotta say, though, their roasted chicken was drier than expected (They have their own roasting oven thingy) but their Cerviche was still damn good, carnitas is a solid order.

Nice full bar with TV. Good beer & wine selection. Great chips & salsa. Get the guacamole! Delicious braised short rib! Great location in Sausalito with outdoor seating. Excellent friendly wait staff and manager.

My boyfriend and I tried Copita last night for the first time and were very impressed. We'd been meaning to try it for some time now, but just hadn't made it over (we live in SF). We decided to sit at two open seats at the bar to wait for our table and in the meantime, ordered the house margaritas. They were perfect. Made with top shelf tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice and agave nectar. That's it. We proceeded to order several more of course. The bartender, Juan Carlos, was incredibly friendly and very helpful with steering us toward what to order. We were already so happy we decided to stay seated at the bar. Our first course was the classic ceviche. It was so flippin' good. We often order the ceviche at nearby "Fish" and it's not nearly as good in my opinion. We then went on to enjoy the pork belly tacos, the 24-hr slow roasted carnitas plate and the lobster tacos. I can't even tell you that I had a favorite because each dish was so unique and so fresh and so full of flavor. My bf and I were downright speechless. Usually when we crave Mexican we head to Tia Margarita (blocks from our house) or to Mamacita or Tacolicious in the Marina. Copita wins on food and drink hands down. We didn't find the food too expensive (despite some reviews) and felt like we really enjoyed ourselves with 7 margs, a beer, and four dishes for $130. I will absolutely go back - as soon as possible. Even had a chance to meet the chef, a Michael Mina protege, and he was very sociable and told us about an evening coming up with Joanne Weir on 4/15 to taste my favorite tequila, Clase Azul, and sample the food again. I'm soooo tempted. Definitely recommend this experience highly. Enjoy!

Interesting menu, helpful wait staff, good service. Pricey for what you get. My favorite thing was the chocolate milkshake with shot of tequila in it. Very tiny serving though. The prickly pear Corazon margarita basically tasted like a decent regular margarita, ditto with the Autumn's Apple one. Smoking gun cocktail was more interesting by far. Ceviche was very good, fresh, tender. Tried all the tacos and was happy with them. Empanadas were a little plain.

I absolutely love this place!! First off everything on the menu is gluten free (even the desserts) and they have the most amazingly fresh guacamole! My boyfriend and I come pretty regularly and some of our favorite menu items are the following: The little gem salad (they often have new salads based on the season, we order them every time and are always delighted by the combination and flavors they create) The Mexico City style quesadillas are awesome, these have chorizo in them and are made with corn tortillas, need I say more? Seared California yellowtail, tastes fresh fresh fresh! Coctel mixto or the Sea Bass and Scallop Kummel, these ceviches also have the perfect combination of ingredients and flavors. Fire Roasted Chicken is always one of our favorites too! Also I might add that the staff is always super friendly and knowledgable, feel like every time we go we see the same friendly faces so I assume it must be a great place to work. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a hearty yet fresh and healthy meal with lot's of flavor!!

The taste of the $7.00 tacos was good, whole lot short on the meat, waitress stated the chef claimed the meat was proportioned out evenly. The shot of tequila was watered-down.

Having just moved from San Antonio, our family was very impressed with our meals. The ambience was relaxing and warm; very comfortable. The staff was very friendly, attentive and informative. If you go at night, consider a reservation as seating is limited. The town is beautiful and recommend to anyone.

Nice gig with good food but, small portions. The taco order is expensive compared to its small size; looks as if it was an appetizer. What truly caught my attention was the freshness of the Guacamole with a hint of lime; delicious!

My husband and I had a good experience. Our tour bus driver recommended it. The menu items are appealing. We only had small plates due to time restrictions: the tortilla soup, tamale trio (it's spicy), and apple cider mocktail and they were great. They welcome you with jimaca and cucumber sticks powdered with salt and chile. My only complain is that they didn't come right away after we were seated to get out order so we had to get their attention. But the service in general was good and they were nice to expedite the check and the put our beverages in to-go cups as we had to return with the tour.

$5 for salsa after I spent $9 on a side order of guacamole is unacceptable. I dine in fine restaurants around the world and have no problem paying for quality. While the guacamole appetizer was good (nothing special), it needed some spice and substance. I asked for a side of salsa which in most restaurants comes with. We had intended on having margaritas and a late lunch. The bartender informed us that it would be an additional $5 because they did not want their patrons filling up on chips and salsa. We did not stay for lunch after that. This establishment is only in business because they pray on tourists. Do not fall into that trap.

Wow, some of THE WORST service I have ever received! I came in on Saturday February 15, 2014 at about 5:00 pm. Upon walking in, we searched around for someone to greet us or for a sign directing us to seat ourselves. Right by the door, stood a man and woman watching us in our confusion. I finally looked over to them, as they appeared to work there and asked "Do we seat ourselves?" The woman replied with an attitude, "Um no...I'm not sure if there is room. Are you here for dinner or drinks? There are two open seats at the bar." As we decided whether or not we wanted to sit at the worst seats in the restaurant, a waitress came by and said she had a table open. Even after hearing that, the woman still seemed hesitant to seat us and said something along the lines of "As long as you guys are out by 8:00." We finally sat down and I made a comment to my boyfriend that the situation was really uncomfortable and awkward. The couple next to us overheard and said that they had the same experience. The service from the waitress was fine, not really any issues with that. We ordered the fish tacos and steak tacos, both of which were good. We also ordered two house margaritas which the waitress brought out in a cocktail mixer, mixed at our table and then poured into our glasses. The whole pouring at our table show was completely unnecessary considering how sub pare the drinks were. They tasted like the ones I make at home with Trader Joe's ingredients. Definitely not worth $10 a glass. After finishing our meal and paying, I saw the man who stood at the door when we walked in and asked if he was the manager, which he confirmed he was. I very nicely told him that the situation when we entered was very uncomfortable and strange and that the patrons next to us agreed. He didn't know what to say and finally explained that they had 100 reservations later that night, and were just making sure they were able to seat us. That was a pretty sorry excuse for the terrible service. If you are worried about having room for the reservations later in the night, close your doors and put a sign that you are no longer seating walk-ins instead of making your customers feel rushed and uncomfortable. Also, the restaurant was nearly empty by the time we left, so I really don't think room was an issue. The manager did not even apologize, he only made an excuse for the poor service. Once we got up to leave, he came back and apologized and said that he will "take care" of us the next time we come back. NO CHANCE I will ever return to this place. I worked in food service for several years and one of the first things you learn is that the customer is always right. The management was awful and despite the quality of the food, this place left a very bad taste in my mouth. There were too many things wrong with this place and looking at recent reviews of this restaurant, others are experiencing bad service as well. Hopefully the owners do something about these issues. Don't ever trust a Mexican restaurant that doesn't give you complimentary chips and salsa with your meal!

I'm just gonna be honest. Service was good. Our server took our order quickly and owner greeted us immediately after being seated. Food. My gf ordered a Mahi taco. Tortilla was soggy and the Mahi Mahi was a bit fishy. I question the freshness of their fish. As a recreational fisherman, I know what fresh fish should taste like. I ordered the ceviche and seriously I got 1 shrimp split in half and half a scallop split in half. half a small avocado diced and quarter of a cucumber diced for $15. I've been to Mexico many times, have expectations of what is good Mexican food and I was quite disappointed.

100% gluten-free menu!!! How wonderful to be able to order anything off the menu and not be taking leaps of faith hoping that the waiters know which foods contain gluten!!!! We ordered the tamalitos, ceviche trio, pork belly and skirt steak tacos. It is now confirmed that I just don't like tamales as a dish.... but the lobster ceviche was wonderful, as were the tacos. Excellent service, so excited to have found a good mexican place!!!

Copita is one of the best restaurants in this touristy area. They have an extensive tequila list and know how to make a killer margarita. The food is fresh and delicious. The service is good. What more could you ask for? I recommend the trio of ceviches. Why choose when you can try them all! Each one is unique and special in its own way. The atmosphere is light and fun; really an enjoyable place to eat. Stop in and support this local [seasonal] gem!

Nice of them to accommodate us on the patio on a busy Friday evening - no reservation. My main issue was with service - they said "here is some complimentary jicama and cucumber." There was no jicama, only cucumber. When asked, they said we are out of jicama. Then, they offer complimentary sparkling, but only provided one glass and then still. The portions were small. The tuna ceviche was very good, my salad was good, and the broth for the chicken tortilla soup was nice with lots of chipotle flavor. So, all in all, it was solid and I wouldn't hesitate to take someone there. Liked the people watching!

First off, the decor is inviting and makes you feel like you want to take your time here. The cucumber & jicama doused in a healthy dose of lime juice sprinkled with chili powder is a great touch that is brought to every table! I ordered the pork belly tacos and they were phenomenal! Super flavor with the pumpkin seed mole. I am highly recommending this spot.

Great experience! Our reservation for 7 somehow got messed up but the hostess and manager were more than accommodating and were able to get us seated quickly on a busy Saturday night. The food was superb. The portions may seem small compared to other Mexican restaurants but not everything needs to be jumbo-sized. The taste and quality ingredients are more than enough to justify the cost. Finally, our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

this is for brunch only, so I cannot comment on any of the delicious looking cocktails. I can say that most of the food is well-done, but I really wish there were more of it. like, a lot more of it. I'm not a big eater, but after a starter and a main, I was still sucking down the chips (which are delicious). the best part is the jicama-and-cuke-in-lime that comes gratis before the meal.

To start with I'm happy I'm not invested with this place. Their soft opening which was advertised in the Marin IJ as 1100 on 4/28 failed. Even at 1130 they weren't truly open for service. Protip: if you tell the paper you'll be open at a certain time/date, be open. Not only were they not really open they had no hours posted, and the bar was overloaded with inventory that belonged elsewhere. Further they'd left all their comment cards from their "private" party out. Not an auspicious start and very much the epitome of amateur hour. Just because one may have been a chef in the past does not mean they are currently on point or suited to run a restaurant. Perhaps they'll be offering discounts so their name brand chef/owner can get up to speed and figure out how to open on time. I wasn't able to try the food or front of the house service as the owners did not feel that opening at their advertised time (as given by the restaurant to the Marin IJ) was important. With such a myopic attitude towards follow through and accountability I'd rather give Taco Bell money for Mexican food than this bunch of no skill socialites.

If you want bad service, come here! We waited minutes and minutes for a greeting from our server. The blonde hair server really paid no attention to my girlfriend and I. We finished our appetizers of chips and salsa and wanted some more chips to go with our tacos. When we got them, our tacos were long gone. The service was bad and the thank you as we left the restaurant was not there. No eye contact and no thank you. The front of house manager was too busy flirting with a table of women to pay attention to everyone else. BAD SERVICE, mediocre food.

GLUTEN FREE 100% .......and can eat Dairy Free too! People who don't care for the taste of some GF foods love Copita's too. They are authentic yet contemporary and trendy Mexican Food. It's actually an easy food to make GF if the chef thinks about it. This chef designed the entire menu to be gluten free. They do serve dairy but you can order lots of DF food right off the menu, without it being altered. Cool atmosphere, lively bar scene, and the wall to Bridgeway Street pushes back to become an open air restaurant with indoor-outdoor dining. Chicken tacos and fish tacos are excellent. Note the fish tacos have some fruit, so are slightly sweet. Guacamole is perfect. Their taquilla menu is the longest I've ever seen. Decent wine list too. But hey, it is northern California. Enjoy great Mexican and eat GF, DF too!

I never been to Sausalito before but wow Copita totally blew my mind and not to mention by waiter Kristopher was exceptional and knew his food/drinks! I had the tacos ahogados and the enchiladas Manchu manteles. The sauces were out of this world and so fresh . I also had their pork belly taco topped off with this watermelon and pineapple slaw.. If you can save room for dessert you should order their light apple pastry with pomegranate seeds and cream sauce ... Wow! The atmosphere was so chill and cozy but I'd def come back because of the amazing service I had from my waiter. Thanks for the amazing time Kristopher!!

Such yummy food with fresh house made sauces and gauc. Their sangrias are also A-MAzing. I would recommend the 24 hour slow cooked carnitas, or the carne asada tacos and tortilla soup. On a beautiful sunny day, this place is the perfect place to be --a small restaurant, friendly staff, great atmosphere, great food.

Great lunch. Had Red sangria and mahi mahi tacos, which tasted great. The chips and salsa were some of the best I've had, they were warm when brought to the table.

We returned to Copita's at the invitation of the owner. There was very little of the meal or experience that could have be improved upon that was not. I really like the Pork Belly Tacos. My drink was delicious and especially so after they wiped off the chili infused salt the rimmed the glass. The Papas Brava were delicious and, damn, I did not try the jalapeno as I thought it would be too hot. (We will have to go back!.) We also had the Trio of Tamalitos which were great. The only item that could be improved upon is that the view from my seat if I looked beyond my husband's shoulder was into the kitchen at a stack of buckets. My gallant husband switched seats with me so it ended up being a non-issue for me.

Overpriced and not very good. We ordered chips and salsa, spicy potatoes, Mahi Mahi tacos and steak tacos. The tacos were just ok and very small. I did not like the chips or the salsa at all. Spicy potatoes were mediocre at best. The bill was $50 and we left slightly hungry. I do not recommend.

Best and most original Tacos I've ever had. Good Margaritas too. This is a perfect place to go after biking across the golden gate as the trail back takes you right by here.

I was pleasantly surprised by Copita. I'll admit.. I'm a bit of a food snob so when I saw the reviews on Yelp, I figured it would be best to go to one of the other higher rated restaurants in Sausalito. However, my friend really wanted to try this place so I agreed and I'm glad I did. We started with the guac and chips. Their guac was good and their chips were great. Nothing is worse than crappy chips in a Mexican restaurant. The guac was pretty standard restuarant guacamole. I got the shrimp and lobster tacos and the carne asada tacos. Both were FULL of flavor. I was shocked. I really enjoyed both. They lose a start because there were REALLY skimpy on the carne tacos.

Clean, relevant, Mexican cuisine. If your looking for giant combination plates of frijoles refritos con arroz y dos enchiladas, you are in the wrong establishment. Head to the Mission or better yet, to Fresno, Phoenix or San Diego. I always feel like I'm in Mexico City while eating at Copita. The menu is often changing and is very modern and delicious. They create inventive drinks and carry a solid selection of Tequilas and Mescals. I love the space and often sit at the bar to hang out with locals, tourists and the top-notch bartenders. Copita is a Mexican inspired oasis in a place that is sometimes overwhelmed by tourists. It's one of my favorite spots in Sausalito.

Oh My Goodness!!!! We were walking by on a quick trip to Sausilito and just happened to walk in for some apps. First, this is a Gluten Free Restaurant! AMAZING!!! We had the steak and fried oyster tacos to start with chips and salsa. I don't eat steak but my friends LOVED them! The oyster tacos were amazing and the chips and salsa were delicious! The tomatillo salsa was to die for! We then ordered the lobster ceviche. Seriously delicious! Joanne Weir was there and greeted everyone at her restaurant including us! What a treat! We loved her! I highly recommend this incredible restaurant!

Whenever I am in CA, I have to stop at this restaurant! Every time I go I thoroughly enjoy myself. Carlos (the bartender) is a great guy and you can learn a lot by sitting at the bar and talking to him. I'm from the east coast and he was talking to me about places to go, and even sat and explained to me about the tequilas in my tequila flight. I met Joanne last time I went and she is a doll!! The food is authentic Mexican, the drinks are reasonably priced and everyone in the place is so friendly. It really doesn't get much better than this!!

After seeing this Joanne Weir restaurant featured on "Check Please, Bay Area", we came with high expectations. Sadly, like many who've dined here before, it misses the mark on service. Fifteen minutes for your server to come over to your table is too long. Granted, he looked busy - for the constant flow of patrons in this restaurant, they really need more service staff. Bad service overshadows decent (not great) food and drink. The house margaritas are good (though $10 is a bit steep), chips are fresh and light, chicken enchilladas are tasty, and the classic ceviche is delish. (The other two ceviches were too acidic and too spicy; I could barely stomach them!) Speaking of spicy, the papas bravas are not for those with a sensitive palette. (Overly-spicy does not = good) Extra props to the bus boys, both of whom were around to service us when our server was nowhere in sight. My advice: Skip this place and stand in the long line nextdoor for a burger. From what I can tell, you'll get a better meal at a fraction of the price.

The good: food was excellent -- we had fish tacos and shrimp and lobster tacos. Also had the corn on the cob appetizer. Service was superb. The not so good: portions are tiny for what you pay for. Sangria was fair at best.

Wow, we ate at Copita for lunch without having checked reviews and now I'm seeing the great reviews and wondering what the heck! We had terrible service. Far and away the worst service I've experienced in quite some time. We stopped in mid afternoon for a late light lunch. We were greeted rudely at the door, so the rest shouldn't have surprised me. We waited a long time to place an order. Ordered minimally ( a couple orders of quesadillas and tacos) and waited...and waited...and waited for our food. I started to think they'd completely lost our order and forgotten about us when the food finally arrived. And the portions were tiny. Glad this was a late lunch/light snack, otherwise we would have been searching someplace else for more food. We then waited...and waited...and waited for our bill. Had to track someone down. And then waited for my credit card back. Then mistakenly asked for a small box for our son's leftover quesadilla and, you guessed it, waited and waited for a box! The food itself was fine, and I can't speak for much because we only ordered a couple items off the menu. But can't imagine any of it would be worth the lack of service!

Decided to eat here because of a recommendation. It was a cozy place and the first things I noticed were the delicious looking guacamole on someone's table, the scent of something with bay leaf and cumin, and a good selection of tequilas. We were promptly seated and taken care of. I didn't have a problem with the service despite the place being pretty packed. We ordered the breakfast enchilada with the black bean sauce, the crab churros, the hangover ceviche, mahi mahi tacos, and the tortilla soup. The only things I didn't get to sample were the soup and tacos. Got to meet Joanne afterwards; wow, what a maverick. She walks around projecting a matriarchal presence and along with the hearth that's burning you really feel the love of the place, plus she's really approachable and really friendly. Food: The food complimented the ambiance really well. The ceviche, like Joanne, was on the sweeter side but the dish that really stood out was the Dungeness Crab Churros. I really recommend it. Like but full of crab meat, I'm assuming it's a twist on the humble crab cake. The mint tomatillo salsa was good too. Portions however, can be bigger. Service: Greeted and seated, food came quickly. No complaints. Overall it was a pleasant experience. As you all know, good food and good company makes a great meal.

First time at Copita - Amazing! When we asked Jahun (John), the manager, advised us for the first visit - The Copita margarita, the pork belly or the lobster and shrimp tacos and the share the enchiladas. I am at a point in life where I don't want massive quantities of food. If I am going to take in the calories, I want it to be excellent food with well-balanced flavors. Additionally I have been looking for great Mexican food in the SF bay area for many years. Well, I found it all at Copita. Specifically, the margarita, guacamole, the mixto ceviche were all outstanding. Each was exceedingly fresh with distinct and balanced flavors. The mole on the enchilada was the best I had ever tasted, and the pork belly tacos are already on the list for next time. HOT TIP: put a little of the guacamole and the green salsa on the pork belly taco. One of our party fell in love with the green salsa and ordered two bowls. When chef Gonzolo Rivera came over to say hello, he told him that it was so good he should bottle and sell it. As we were leaving, the restaurant presented him with a small carafe of the salsa packed to go. Incredibly thoughtful. Very highly recommended. You must go for the food and take a moment to ask the staff for recommendations. I feel the prices are a value for the quality. Make a reservation, otherwise your wait may be lengthy. We can't wait to go back and try more dishes.

I went to Copita with my friends for my birthday. We took the ferry over and it was so convenient to just jump off and walk on over. We were greeted by the gracious hostess. When we sat down the service was quick with a little snack of delicious cucumber and jicama. Since we were celebrating my birthday we of course ordered drinks! I had a great mimosa and my friends really enjoyed their margaritas. I was so pleasantly surprised that the manager, Casey/Casidy?? I think her name was came over and wished me a happy birthday. The server was so nice and knowledgable, explaining the menu to us. When the food came out it was fast, fresh and quality. Loved this place! People seem to be having a fun time! Such good vibes!

I love this place. The servers are attentive. Brunch is a great time to come. I rode my bike here in the morning...arrived by 10am, got a great outside seat with a view, and ordered yummy brunch dishes, and the Espiritu cocktail..one of my favorites! They have a make your own Michelada bar that is pretty amazing, stocked with all kinds of fresh juices, shrimp cocktail...you name it, and it's bottomless.. ;-)

Excellent food, excellent customer service! We stopped in during a tour - Kris made us feel like super stars. From the moment we were seated to the time we left, we had a blast. The guac was special- the tacos and tequila were fantastic. We will definitely add this place to our "must visit"list when we return to CA.

Not impressed so far. I wanted to make a reservation for 12 for dinner on Cinco de Mayo. I was called back saying it was too close to the grand opening to give us one. WHAT??? the soft opening of this place was on the 28th of April, the big GRAND opening is to be the 1st of May. So, are they telling me by the 5th of May they wont be ready to book a reservation for a party of 12 ???? So they turn the business away?? If that's the case then I shutter to think whats to come food wise. Copita, if you want to stay in business in Sausalito where tourism is abundant, you will have to do much better than this!

Great new restaurant that opened last month. Great chips, red and tomatillo salsa, they also serve jicama with chili powder. Our server Danielle was attentive, friendly and out-going and we appreciated the great service and her recommendations. Great interior and location, prices were very reasonable and will defintely return and highly recommend when you are up for Mexican! The steak tacos are a must!!! They do have non-spicy items as well, although those are not listed on the menu as such. If you like it spicy, as the server for recommendations!

Spent a great evening with friends last night at Copita. the margs were the best we ever had - perfectly prepared with just the right amount of salt - not too sweet or tart. We loved them and had many. My dinner companion renamed the guacamole "crackamole" as he could not stop eating it! The vibe was fun and festive and we had so many great flavors throughout the night. A perfect spot to share and taste many items. will definitely be back!

I had an spicy margarita very smoky and flavorful. My girl had a coffee which was pretty good as well. Chips and guac are very decent. Service was great. I will be back to try more food. It looks delicious! I recommend this place to stop have a snack in their terrace.

This place is amazing! I have been here to eat with friends and family on numerous occasions and every time has been a memorable experience. Last night was no exception. I went with a friend to sit at the bar and just get a quick bite and have something to drink. When we arrived it was packed but we were immediately greeted by the hostess and she was so helpful and went to talk to the bartender to see if anyone might be leaving soon. She came back and let us know it would be about 10 minutes and took our name to hold them once available. We strolled down to Poggio and had a glass of wine and then headed back to Copita. I am so glad we did! By that time the bar had cleared so there was plenty of room. We were totally welcomed back in by hostess and bartenders and we took our seats at the bar. Juan Carlo was our bartender and he was awesome. Really knowledgeable, charming and attentive. We wanted to try a sipping tequila and he recommended something amazing. We had the pomegranate ceviche that was delish and the potato app that was also really yummy. We stayed and chatted it up with everyone and had such a great experience. Will continue to recommend and visit Copita!

May be the best fish tacos I have ever had. The halibut was pan-seared and the topping of avocado cream, cabbage and lime struck the right balance of flavors. The fresh corn tortillas were hand-patted and delicious. I also enjoyed their melon salad, which was pitch perfect for the Summer: light, chock full of organic fruit and lettuce greens. A wonderful addition to the dining scene, adjacent to the ferry landing.

I've been several times for dinner, lunch, and to sit at the bar with a margi, so you know I like this place. Get a mezcal margarita and some terrific ceviche at the bar, or grab a table for a larger meal. I'm partial to the pork belly tacos but haven't been disappointed by anything I've had here. Bar and wait staff are very friendly and work hard when the place is full. High recommended for a visit when in town.

Not a locals spot in Sausalito. Teeny tiny drinks. Food is average & waaaaay overpriced.

Small appetites only, expect tapas sizes with entree prices. My 3 baby Ironflank Organic Steak tacos came with cabbage, flavorful and spicy meat, but didn't come with chipotle crema as promised on the menu description - got it dry. To add insult to injury, we were the only ones in the restaurant not offered chips and salsa. Still, for soda lovers go for the unusual Kumquat soda, real fruit inside.

Very disappointing experience. We had heard wonderful things about this place so thought we would try it. Saturday night, wait was not more than a half an hour. Bar service was great. Drink selection was not so great but they do have a great assortment of tequila. Dinner, that is where things fell apart. Waiter had ZERO personality and interest in our table, needs and order. Food was sub-par and basically we felt we wasted a couple hours of our lives with the poor service and follow-up. We will not be back and hopefully the tourists visiting the area will sustain this place as the locals (we are local) will not be coming back and we will not be recommending. Best wishes and hopefully they can learn from Tacolicious and/or Mamacitas and figure out what exactly the crowds want.

Amazing chips and salsa, its so far the best I have had till now. The vegetarian options were a little less, so we ordered tacos and papas bravas(they were the only veggie dishes). Both of them were very good. A little on the expensive side, a small bowl of guac costs 8$!! Anyway, we were on a vacation, so it was fine. Awesome drinks too..Overall, a nice Mexican restaurant.

Yum, yum! I dare you to try the Ceviche trio and pick one as your favorite! That Chicken Ting, highly suggested. I was stuffed and still couldn't stop eating it. The only reason why I didn't give a five stars was the hungry palm tree kept poking me in the back. Maybe it wanted some Ting as well. lol Great food, will be back this weekend as we spread out 45 cyclist amongst the several food spots in Sausalito. You know where I'll be....

My wife and I were in on Monday with another couple and had the best meal we've had in the bay area in a long time! The purity of flavors was second to none. The service - the beverages - the food - a perfect 10 out of 10. This is a WOW restaurant not to be missed. Worth the drive too! Cheers to all of you @ Copita!

We had a nice meal here, though not totally perfect. The tacos and tamales were good, though small. The guac was great, but the chips were so thick they came across as stale. No free salsa. No iced tea.

I had a chance to revisit Copita yesterday. The food and service has improved which is good. The tequila menu is possibly one of the best in Marin. I have to agree with Dan O. on the price points on the menu, however. The prices are generally geared toward tourists who don't mind paying for the premium

The place is nice and had a good ambiance, it didn't seem too loud. Service was terrible, we had to flag someone down anytime we wanted to order, even first round of drinks. The best thing I can say about the food is that it was fresh. But everything was so bland, no flavor at all. We were hungry so ordered ceviche, tacos (steak & chicken), salad, albondigas, chips/salsa and one round of drinks. Nothing was great, we ate it just to finish and not feel like we wasted $100, but it still felt that way. I blame myself for expecting good Mexican food in Sausalito. Get a burger next door, they looked great.

Wonderful vibrant comfortable ambiance. Love the open air feeling. Really enjoyed the Steak tacos.... two are plenty. Loved the spicey veggie sticks as an appetizer. Ask for some extra sauce... all are so good it is nice to add some extra to pump up the volume of your meal. Great place. Eat big or small, all good.

Definitely 5 stars. The food and service here are outstanding. For food, we started with chips and salsa and guacamole. The guacamole was the best we had ever had. The tomatillo sauce had some mint in it, which made it even more refreshing. The pico de gallo was delightful as well. Our main courses were the chicken tinga tacos and the shrimp and octopus ceviche. The chicken tinga tacos were the best tacos I had ever had, and the ceviche was delicious as well. For dessert, we shared the bunelos, which are best described as deep-fried doughnut-like things (not quite churros). It was one of the best desserts I had ever had. The service here was wonderful as well. The chefs talked to us during the meal when they overheard us saying that the guacamole was the best we had ever had, and that it was worth the steep price of $8! The only negatives would be that the chips, pico de gallo, and tomatillo sauce were $4, and the guac was $8. However, it was well worth the price. This is still the best Mexican food I have ever had. Also, like most restaurants in or near cities, the tables are a little close together, but that's to be expected.

I went here for pre dinner margs (eating at another restaurant down the street) and had a good experience. My experience was good because of this one guy that was kind of 'front of house' guy. My friend and I just wanted a drink and maybe some chips and guac, but it was SO loud inside, I didn't want to be in there (teaching middle school all day, I can't handle noise like this if I don't have to) I asked a hostess gal if we could sit outside since there were 4 open tables and she told me it was 'for dinner only'. I was so bummed because I really wanted to have a drink in a quiet environment and it was so inviting out there! So then the 'front of house' guy stepped in and heard me asking. He not only told us to grab a seat, but he also took our drink order. I needed that to happen, or I would have left and not gone back. My suggestions for this place would be 1. sell margartias by the pitcher 2. allow people to sit outside and order drinks and appetizers and 3 figure out a way to make it less noisy inside Besides that, I think this place is sweet!

  • Elizabeth C.

The food was mediocre, and for what you get, it is so overpriced. For example, they charge $4.00 for a diet coke in a soda can, which is not only really tacky, but ridiculously expensive. Perhaps that's what I get being a local and eating on Bridgeway...

  • Robin W.

Surprised by some of the reviews here. We arrived for an 8:30 reservation on a busy Saturday (first table we could get). Had already had margaritas at my BF's Sausalito home so just one beer each -- love the on-tap selection. And every dish was terrific: 24-hour carnitas, tamale trio, and the ceviche has become our standard by which others are measured (and, today, Fish failed the test). Service wasn't perfect, but the ambiance was great. Will be back.

    (5)
  • Alex L.

Don't know why this place isn't rated higher. Margaritas were great as well as the sea bass and scallop ceviche. The bartenders were super nice and I loved the jicama and cucumber starter they give out. I will be back...soon.

Great selection of tequilas and good cocktails. Pricey food menu but I guess I expected that for this part of Sausalito where they're clearly looking for tourists who don't mind the prices. Got lobster and shrimp tacos which were yummy but I was still hungry. Hubs got chicken tacos which were better than the seafood but still, small portions.

Our new favorite Mexican spot in the bay area. From the salsa verde that came with the tortilla chips, to our ceviche, to our entrees (tacos/enchiladas), everything was incredibly fresh. The Oaxacan style enchiladas were a highlight for me, but everything that we had was fantastic. The drinks were also excellent try the cherry tequila drink, a must. Service behind the bar was extremely friendly as was our waitstaff. Copita blows away the likes of Nopalito, will plan on crossing the GGB to come here on the weekends when the weather in Marin is warm and sunny. Update: next two visits were very mediocre.

Completely Gluten-Free! I have visited twice now since moving to Sausalito. I have to say that walking into a restaurant and being able to order ANYTHING off the menu and know that it won't cause me to go into total gluten-shock is a pretty amazing feeling. I tried the young goat my friend ordered and it was not for me, though she enjoyed it thoroughly. I ordered the enchiladas and they were good. It's nice to finally find celiac friendly enchiladas. My Second visit was fun, as there were three of us we each ordered a different kind of taco and swapped so we each had one- rotiserie chicken, lobster/shrimp, and carne asada. My favorite was the asada. Perfectly seasoned, tender and dripping with meaty goodness. My brother-in-law concurred with my findings, but my sister enjoyed the seafood the most. Two reasons you didn't get my full 5 stars. One is service. The first time we were there, we had a group from my husband's work. There were 7 of us. We were asked if we had a reservation and when we said no (it was sort of an impromptu lunch outing) we were "huffed" at. Ok, no big deal, we knew it was a tall order for the small space, but we were willing to wait. Once we were seated, our server (a tall young man with glasses) was very rude and unattentive. We may have looked like a rag-tag bunch because my hubby's engineering crew works in construction, but we all tip well! Thanks for showing us your snobby side Sausalito. The second visit was with my sister and brother-in law. We were nicely greeted and accommodated, but our server didn't speak much English. It's a good thing my brother-in-law is fluent in Spanish. We didn't receive our cucumbers and jimica until I asked for it at the end of our visit, and he kept forgetting to bring us our tacos, he would tell us they were ready and he would be right back, and then..... Secondly, the meal portions are laughable. Be prepared to bring your wallet and pay for your chips and salsa (mediocre), order two entrees, or do what we decided and go get a huge portion of ice-cream afterward to fill the void.

I have been to Copita several times now, to mixed reviews. One night at the bar for drinks and bar snacks was great -- their bartender is terrific. Then at one of the outside tables in the late afternoon for drinks and a few small plates-- alright, but got REALLY tired of being pestered to order more food (which we didn't). Then dinner -- the food, as always, was good. But the service was pretty awful. Felt fairly ignored by our server, who took eons to take our order, then got it wrong. Did not get their customary cucumber/jicama appetizer, which is always put on the table or bar, and had to beg it from a bus boy. Was never asked if everything was good. And they have to get better about seating people --- we had a family of six standing practically on our table while the host tried to figure out how to seat them -- I'm not exaggerating -- we could barely move for about 10 minutes! Have to think twice about going here again...

Fun addition to Sausalito. If it's any indication, I've dined here probably 6 times in the last 6 months, so you know I'll be back! This is a real restaurant and the tequila menu is outstanding. I've tried a couple of the tacos offerings, and so far each has been strong. But I keep going back for the Carnitas. Yummy. Nice to have a patio in the summer, definitely worth the trip across the bridge/on the ferry on a Friday after work.

Run don't walk away from this place. As we drove past on Bridgeway the place looked closed, it was 7:30PM and we could see people inside but lighting in front was out. After parking the car we walked inside and were all but ignored by the the host (middle aged guy) who finally said he could have a table for us in just three minutes. The place was full and he soon returned leading us to the very back of the restaurant where a micro booth was located. There was a table of six next to the booth and the lack of room left one patron blocking the only access to the booth table. After having to ask the guy to move (server nor host asked) we sat down. We were given menus and quickly found there was not enough light to see anything on the menu. The noise in the restaurant was deafening and we could barely hear each other. The server returned and leaned over the patron next to us (still blocking her path) and she attempted to ask us for a drink order. My dining partner asked about the Pinot and the person at our adjacent table (two feet away) quickly quipped; "Oh the Pinot is terrible." After several more attempts at communicating the server (who was still leaning over the patron blocking her path, she said she was going to bring a "taste" of wine she had suggested. The server returns with a taster (again leaning over the patron blocking the way) and left the table. We tasted the wine and it was at best like a hearty grape juice. At this point we asked the guy to move and began to walk out, the server made no effort to ask us what was wrong (she just stared as we walked away.) The host also made no effort to ask what was wrong or offer any other seating. Absolutely the worst service, environment, and attitude ever experienced. Clearly there needs to be a quick revamp of employees and business strategy. Believe me, don't waste your time.

Great experience at Copita last week! Went with some out of town friends after Friday night music at the park in Sausalito . . crowded but we had a reservation so no problem. We were seated right away, the ambiance was lively with a great vibe -- everyone clearly having a good time. Our waitress (Nilu?) was fantastic with our large group, helped the kids navigate the menu and was very patient while we decided what to order. We all tasted each other's margaritas -- all the different kinds were delicious, my favorite was probably the house because it's less sweet. Our waitress recommended we try the corn on the cob, which is one of the best things I've ever eaten . . . topped with chipotle crema, and cotija cheese . .. melt in your mouth yummy! Then the adults shared several different taco plates: Oyster, Mahi Mahi, Veggie and Lobster/Shrimp . . .all of them delicious. We also loved the mixed ceviche. I've had the tamales trio on a prior visit and couldn't wait to try them again, but unfortunately they were sold out. Somehow we found room for dessert . . the chocolate milkshake with tequila is sinful and amazing! Every moment of our evening there . . . service, food, ambiance . .. was a hit. our friends are just disappointed that they live so far away . . . luckily we get to go back!

Great stuff! Stopped by when hanging touring the little town and stumbled in. Glad we did. The brunch items are delicious. Would love to try again for dinner!

Good food. Little pricey, but goes with the location and quality of food. Avoid the hyped goat dish. Don't miss the Mexican coffee- nice play on Irish coffee. They use top shelf tequila for all margaritas.

Stopped at Sausalito on our three week Harley trip. Decided to try Copita and order items weve never tried before. The appetizer, corn on the cob, was so unique and delicious. Will try to duplicate this at home. The carnitas definitely was not your typical tex/mex but rather had a very authentic taste. Loved the home made corn tortillas. The fact that it was a gluten free menu was a bonus! Prices were very reasonable. Enjoyed meeting Joanne Weir and the manager. Very personable staff! This would be THE place we would frequent quite often if we ever moved back to Bay Area.

It's really just...not that good. My tacos were soaked with liquid and it was very unappetizing. The tacos were also very small. My friends said their food lacked flavor. This place was also way overpriced. Try a different place.

I've been wanting to try this place out. The décor is nice, they have outdoor seating that is heated and just the name "tequileria" makes it sounds like it is going to be a fun experience. My bf and I had no reservations and we're told by the hostess it would be a thirty minute wait. Then a waiter came up and said a table is almost ready outside. ?? OK lets do this! After 10 minutes the waitress finally came and greeted us and basically stood there while we put in our entire order rather than offering drinks first, and asking if we had any questions about the menu or making suggestions.. I ordered a ker real tequila margarita type drink not so great it was bitter and not chilled at all. My bf's drink was way better the ay Chihuahua ( they have a 2 a day limit on that one, I don't see why it wasn't that strong). My crunchy tacos were drenched in a sour tomato sauce and not so crunchy and the portion of carnita was very small and was toppled all over the crunchy taco shell- i'm confused am I supposed to use a fork for my crunchy tacos???. So, the food was not the greatest but what bothered me was that our waitress never evem came back to check in with us, offer more drinks, or refill our water. I guess we were just not that important. Not very friendly service. We paid our bill and left with out a goodbye or thank you it felt akward. Way to create the experience! Customer service sucked. Its not as exciting as it looks, and my bf and I were both overall disappointed. Will not be going there again!

Fun place with great drinks and food. The outside patio here is amazing and helps spread the energy of this restaurant out into the street. If you like Tequila you will love Copita as it has a huge selection and for top shelf choices is well priced. Yum. The food also holds its own although do not expect large meals instead they have lots of flavorful small plates. We had the Ceviche which was awesome as well as meatballs and tacos. All good and made for a great night.

Copita was a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere was nice, not fancy but clean and open. Sat on the "patio," edge of the restaurant near the street...no view, but it was a nice evening and very comfortable. Sangria was just fair (small glass stuffed with ice and fruit, very little actual drink) but the only red wine on the menu was good. Chips and guacamole were very good. Both the carnitas and the chicken soft tacos were excellent, nice flavor and reasonably priced -- menu is more interesting than your standard Mexican place, no enchiladas or tostadas or bland beans to be found. Limited dessert menu. Looks like a good place for drinks (big tequila menu) after work or a solid interesting Mexican dinner out.

Flavor wise, this is among the best food on the planet. Beware , however, that you are going to $$$$ for it. From the jicama and pepper starter, to the homemade limeade, to the fried oyster, beef, and fish tacos, my family loved it, and for the first time in her life my wife used my line: this is so good I want to roll in it. I dropped $90 for 3 people with only 1drink and left still very hungry. I would do it again for that flavor, however.

Fabulous margaritas, and the fried quesadillas are not to be missed. The staff was lovely and accommodating, even when the bar got backed up. It was a thrill to see co-owner Joanne Weir strolling around, running the kitchen, and even taking time to sit down with friends for a quick glass of wine - as she should! Can't wait to go back.

I will say that Sausalito has needed a spot like Copita for quite some time. Excellent food, a great patio and very comfortable atmosphere. As for the most important thing: the drinks are excellent. The margarita is served with one large ice cube and not too sweet or too sour. One of the better I have had in the Bay Area. If there is a nice warm evening (a rarity in the Bay Area) make sure Copita is your first stop--but I warn you, you may not want to leave.

A nice place to spend a Sunday midday meal. Delicious menu, health consciously tasty portioned meal. Margaritas were yum! Loved the large ice cube and slice of lime touch! We had a group of 16 family members and all enjoyed their meals.

Fabulous margarita, delicious ceviche. Found that $12 for chips, salsa, and guacamole seemed steep. Would definitely return and would recommend.

Big fatty chunks of meat swimming in grease try to pass for carnitas. Black beans - about one half cup - slightly hard - $5.00. One half cup of pickled vegetables - $5.00. I wouldn't mind paying too much if the food warranted it but this is one on a scale of 10.

just a huge disappointment, absolute beautiful decor and amazing service, but ... the chips are like cardboard, they were not able to blend a margarita, they were out of the Cabernet, we ordered the tacos and regular ceviche, the flavors were average, the portions were TINY and the bill was HUGE, they were do diligent at refilling chips without re-iterating they were EXTRA ... just up the road at Fish you can get amazing guacamole with homemade chips, a huge portion of very good fresh ceviche and amazing fish tacos for a very competitive and not so passive aggressive price ... guess I'll just keep making my own margaritas ho hum

Menu states: Pineapple juice $3 Mexican soda $4 I love both, but I was feeling fruity so I ordered the former. It came transparent and I knew just by looking at it, it will taste like water. It did. I suspect the ratio of water to actual fruit juice was 10 to 1. Disappointing. At least, the shrimp tacos were really yummy and the service was decent. I definitely would have added another star, if they would have only added a few more ounces of pineapple juice in my drink. Instead they chose to add insult to injury - They charged me $4 for the water/juice!?! I didn't trust my temper enough to mention it to the nice lady server, so I let it go and decided to just vent here to my fellow Yelpers, who number in millions. So, to all Yelpers, both perusers and composers of reviews, the lessons are: 1) Don't let the nice restaurant fool you into thinking water is juice. 2) Also, the price cited on the menu should always be the price on your bill. I'm not coming back (won't be fooled 2x), instead I'll buy a burger from the super busy burger joint beside it.

  • Portia K.

Delicious! Very happy that it is now open. The shrimp ceviche was fresh and tasty. Sampled other items that were equally yummy. Agree that it is busy and hard to get served drinks, but that is to be expected with a hot new place. Someone asked me if there is a happy hour--well the proper response is--every hour is HAPPY hour : )

  • Mike J.

The other reviews are harsh...give them time. I was at the soft opening; food was pretty good and the drinks were too. They were VERY busy and not ready for it. When the dust settles they'll figure out what to do better... Good god people, chop their head off while you're at it.

We had learned of this place through Check Please on KQED and went to dinner last night after seeing a Cirque du Soleil show in SF. We eat a lot of Mexican food and were hopeful of the uniqueness of this place. Well, it delivered! My husband had the enchiladas, which he loved. He is a huge fan of Mole and this mole was very different and not what he usually gets. It was light in color and had more cinnamon flavor than chocolate. I had two small plates for dinner; quesadillas and tortilla soup. The 2 quesadillas looked like empanadas in terms of size and how they were crimped on the edges. Needless to say, unique! They were chewy and not full of cheese, which I really enjoyed. They were both very flavorful. The tortilla soup, again not prepared how I expected, had wonderful flavor and was full of fresh veggies and no dripping cheese. They were very quick to order and serve; by dessert, they took longer according to their own standard (which was normal for us) and comped our bunuelos. They were light, fluffy and easy to eat with an eggnog/cinnamon sauce which was yummy. To sum up, thank you Check Please!!

The service gets a star and the food gets a star. Copita is delicious, but you don't get much of it, at all. There were 4 of us and we ordered 2 apps and 3 large plates to share, and we had to order more food after we ate because we all hardly had anything to eat, and when it comes to heavy Mexican food, we can't consume huge portions alone. For the four of us with non-alcoholic beverages, the bill was over $100 and we weren't rolling out the door from indulgent gluttony, rather we were hardly satisfied. However, the carnitas and the pork belly were crazy good, melting-in-the-mouth goodness, the guacamole was fantastic, the black beans with chorizo were spicy and exciting, but it left us wanting for more, not longing, like seriously "I think you forgot to put the full amount of my order on the plates" wanting. Our server was incredibly friendly and festive, but the table next to us had a very brusque and rude server that left us feeling sorry for them compared to our gracious server. I'm glad we tried Copita, but I'll probably stick to Salsalito when I go back to Sausalito for fresh Mexican.

I had dinner here for a friend's birthday. First of all, the location is perfect. Right in the heart of downtown Sausalito. It was a warm night and the restaurant is both indoor and outdoor. We had drinks outside and then dinner in. The decor is pretty simple but I think simple is classy. The centerpiece of the restaurant is a large titled fire oven. For dinner, I think we started with meatballs (A+) and the civiche (A) . I had the roast Chicken for dinner (A) . It was so moist. Melted in my Mouth. The highlight for me was hands the the Tequila. I am by no means an aficionado but its nice when you are drinking Tequila to have more options than just Patron. If you are a aficionado this is the spot for you. All and all it was a really good night. The birthday girl had a great time and all of us left full and happy. What more could you ask for.

Okay, so this place has great food and drinks but the shinning star of my experience was the great service. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar to have some drinks and food. One word... Cassie. She was the best bartender ever! She was friendly, funny, there when we needed her, but not overly hoovering over us. We sipped on delicious tequillas and enjoyed the Mexican 75. She mentioned she also serves some days. If she is serving then sit in her section and you won't be disappointed. So onto the food. Everything we tried was delicious. The steak tacos were delicious, however I do wish they had pico de gallo. The chips and guac were mmmmm. The carnitas were also yummy and so was the ceviche!

Copita is amazing! I love the setting, right on the main strip in Sausalito with great outdoor seating. And the food is fantastic. I especially loved the chicken, which was roasting in the wood oven in the back of the restaurant. But my favorite thing by far was the margaritas. I'm not usually a tequila fan, but OH SO DELISH at Copita. I will definitely go back.

I met 3 other friends there after work tonight (Tuesday). When I got there (4:45), they had each ordered drinks, chips and guacamole (not much flavor). The waitress asked what I wanted to drink, I ordered an ice tea. She said she doesn't have ice tea, hesitated and then said they have hibiscus tea (um, isn't that iced tea?). She asked us to order and we asked her to wait a few minutes, since I had just arrived. She came back a few minutes later and one of the ladies told her we'll be drinking more than eating and she said we have to order more food to sit at a table so we ordered 2 more appetizers. The other 3 in my party wanted another drink, but wanted to wait a few minutes. We received the appetizers, and 15 minutes later the waitress again reminded us about the table (the restaurant was about 1/2 full). To make a long story short, the waitress was a downer. The bill for 6 cocktails, an ice tea, 3 appetizers was $93. We gave her a $30 tip so make a point that, just because we didn't eat didn't mean she wouldn't be tipped well. It was after the waitress retrieved the signed credit card slip, that she came back to say we don't have to rush (FYI, the place was even more empty). I won't go back and neither will my friends. The food isn't brilliant, by any means. Nothing about the restaurant was except the fabulous view. Sorry, Ms. Weir. You need to train your wait staff to be more welcoming since your food is so so. We are locals who won't return, which is too bad. Sausalito needs friendly local eating establishments.

The server was polite. BUT first thing is you can't take anything out of certain dishes like as if they are pre prepared. we had a bone in the tacos which hurt my bro. Real small portions. Shit I AM NOT COMING BACK.

After biking over from SF, we were ready for a good meal, but weren't interested in a sandwich. This place fit the bill perfectly. We had chicken tacos and the 24-hr carnitas, both including tasty homemade tortillas. The carnitas were especially good and came in their own mini-Le Crueset dish. There was plenty of meat for lunch. The jicama and cucumbers for a before-meal snack were a nice touch.

I won't return here!! Though the food is well-prepared and tasty, the portions are micro and priced outrageously high--even for Marin County. Three of had lunch today and I ordered their "large plate" lamb entree for $20. What i got was an appetizer-sized little 3 inch diameter crock pot that had at best four fork-fulls of meat accompanied a similar sized portion of rice and 3 small tortillas. $20 really? This should be an appetizer costing no more than 10-12 dollars. The lamb entree with two cirviches and a sides of rice and beans plus guac and chips--no drinks, just water mind you--cost $75 before tip. If we were drinkers the tab would have ren well above $100. I had much less expensive meals in Venice, Italy, a city legendary for goughing tourists. This is a tourist trap preying on unsuspecting visitors who are unaware of what they are in for. DONT' GO!!!

We ended up in this cute little town while on a tour through San Francisco. The smell drew us in! I ordered a cherry margarita, which was more like a sangria, but tasty! One suggestion I would have for the owner is to come up with a decently priced kids' menu, because they do not even have a kids' menu! When I asked if they could make a single taco for my son, the waitress said they couldn't and tried to convince me to buy him a seventeen dollar plate which I knew he would not eat. Really? Therefore, he went next door and ate a hamburger when we finished our meals. The guacamole was good, but tiny. The lobster street tacos were ok, but nothing special since the sauce they put on them hid any taste of lobster. The price for the three tacos was too high considering that it didn't come with any sides. This is a tourist town...be prepared for small portions and a large bill!

Great location and nice job on the interior.I was curious what Joanne and Larry would do with this place and food. It shows promise but does not quite deliver yet . Guacamole was very tasty ! We ordered this first. Then we ordered 3 other dishes and unfortunately they came all at once. A big no no. Halibut Ceviche could have had bigger chunks of fish but it was juicy with mango and cucumber and also quite tasty. Sadly the fish tacos with sea bass did not deliver, the fish was badly overdone. This needs to be watched. The main course of grilled chicken was juicy and tender but was cold when we got to it. The small dishes that came with it were a bit boring , like dried out black beans ,pickled vegetables. The salsa with it was great though. Some greens would have been nice with it. Chips are tasty also. We had coconut flan for dessert and it is a must try ! Quite delicious. Hope the owners are reading and watching and can improve some things. Corkage is $ 10 and a good deal. Will be back to give it another try in a few weeks.

Our server was wonderful, handsome and polite. He suggested the rotisserie chicken as his favorite meal for my husband, but he should have warned me about the Kobe steak tacos I ordered. YUCK. Stay away from those. They were super expensive, there was hardly any Kobe beef, and what little beef there was there was lost in a bunch of cabbage and SUPER spicy sauce that made it impossible to tell WHAT kind of meat was in the taco. Bad bad bad :( The chicken was great though, as was the guacamole, and we also really loved the appetizer they give instead of the traditional chips/salsa - cucumbers with chile. Loved that.

This place is absolutely amazing. I came in thinking that I was only going to have one entree as I had already looked up the menu online and decided what I wanted to try. My girlfriend and I ended up having a 6 course meal. Everything was light, the carnitas and shredded beef were tender, juicy and extremely flavorful. The ceviche trio was so good; my favorite was the octopus and I'm not even a seafood eater! The staff was extremely friendly and I love how Chef Gonzalo Rivera comes out and mingles with patrons, introducing himself and asking people if they enjoyed their meal. I had the ceviche trio, tortilla chips with 3 different salsas, papaya salad, pork belly tacos, tacos ahogados and the enchildas oaxaquenas. We had a dessert that is a play on bunelos and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the menu was 100% gluten free. This restaurant is also friendly for those who are dairy/casein free as there is not a lot of globby cheese on the food.

This is our favorite restaurant in the bay area!! Americans tend to over eat and Joanne has the perfect portions for the perfect meal. Everyone is very friendly. I read some of the other reviews and I can only share our experience which has been fantastic. The service and the food has been wonderful and we go at least once a week! My boyfriend was addicted to their corn-on-the-cob and was heartbroken when it went out of season!

The food was great and very fresh. We got the tacos (chicken and steak) and the three sample tamales. All three were good in their own right and the masa was very light and moist. I also loved the guacamole and the refreshing pineapple drink. The staff was extremely attentive and made a special effort to come and speak to us about the food. A great lunch experience to top off a day of shopping and browsing.

The jicama salad was lovely! My friends enjoyed the pork carnitas and mushroom tacos, and guac was shared among all. The patio area is super cute with a lot of open space. It's a very convenient location, a few minutes away from the ferry dock.

Being a Sausalito local for 41 years I am extremely disappointed by this place. First of all DO NOT go there if you are hungry and unless you want to spend a ridiculous about of money. The service was good, which is the only positive thing I have to say and that's why I'm giving them one star. If you want a $9 margarita with a gigantic icecube and no tequila then go for it! Spent around $80 with my wife and we left hungry and ate somewhere else. Don't waste your time or your money at this restaurant, it was much better when it was Piccalo Teatro. Fail, big time fail. Once summer is over this place is probably not going to be there.

Being local to the Sausalito area I really wanted to take a shine to Copita; unfortunately, I really doubt if I will be heading back anytime soon. We had margaritas and nibbled on the mushroom tacos. Needless to say, the taco's truly needed some type of spice or sauce because they were extremely bland. The margaritas were alright - nothing special here. Sorry Copita

Want great Mexican food if visiting Sausalito? This is the restaurant. Their Rose Sangria, even if it was only 12 noon....wonderful. Wish they sold it by the pitcher. Like Ceviches? try the Shrimp Aguachile, excellent. My husband had the Kobe steak Tacos.....another hit. Clean, staff extra friendly always with a smile, bathroom spotless. Average $50.00 for lunch w/ 2 Gl Sangria.

I had one of the best waitresses I have ever had today. Her name was Sara, and honestly, she made the meal for me. The food was very good as well, but I wish more restaurants hired waitresses with great personalities, because it really brightens up your day. Thanks for making my experience at Copita's an unforgettable one!

After biking across the GG bridge, we found ourselves craving a cold drink and comfort food. We decided upon Copita and were very pleased with our dining experience. The chips, salsa, and guac were very good. Unlike other Mexican places, the chips and salsa are not free. But they are worth puchasing. We ordered chicken tinga tacos and carnitas. Both were very good. The house margaritas were good as well. The location is perfect and the restaurant and bar are nicely decorated. Our service was average. Was it the best Mexican food, drinks, and service worthy of 5 stars? No. But it was still a good vacation dining experience.

This place is great! Food is almost close to authentic, you can tell the chef is not mexican born and raised, but he or she has experienced mexican cuisine to develop such a chic menu. Drinks- are really good and the bartenders are extremely nice and friendly. Too bad that the server station is at the bar, they could have gained more much needed seating space at the bar, and as a customer it would have been a more awesome experience to see the guy preparing the ceviches at the bar, but instead all the servers and busboys take over that area blocking the flow of the restaurant, they should have put the server station by the corner near the bathrooms, who wants to seat there anyways and watch people going in an out the bathroom adjusting their pants on their way out, or waiting in line to use the bathroom while you are eating. Also, they need more food runners, so the busboys can help out the servers as much as possible our waters weren't refilled once during our meal and the empty plates were left at the table for too long. I do like how fast they turn tables the food comes out fast and fresh. Ambiance- amazing, but they need to do something with the acoustics of this place, it's really loud you have to scream your order to the server and you still get the "can you say that one more time?" Overall this place is great for being so new and I can't wait to go back to see if they have done any of these improvements to enhance their customers' experience!

We've been waiting and watching the transition of the new restaurant, since they began construction on Copita. Sausalito has been missing a great Mexican restaurant and now we finally have one. The ambiance is perfect during the afternoon for a nice lunch. We strolled by the restaurant on Wednesday, and while the restaurant was busy, the customer service was exceptional and seated us quickly. While in the restaurant you can see and hear everyone having a great time with their friends/family. It is "tapas-esque" and allows for a wide variety of flavors. Recently I've gone there and had their amazing chicken tamales and ceviche. The chicken was moist and flavorful, on par with the finest restaurants in San Francisco. Too often ceviche is over marinated with lime, but not the one at copita. All the flavors mix together perfectly, without over powering the fish. I will definitely be spreading the word and returning in the near future.

Very limited wine and food menu, but food is good. Restaurant is very loud, however. Also, wait for table is very long (30 minutes) and that's with reservations. But food arrives within minutes of your order placement. Faster than taco stands in Sayulita, Mexico. Will go back for sure but on the week nights, hopefully will be less crowded. The service is "under construction" I say. It will take a while for servers to get better, it always happens when the place just opens up. I think Copita is not a place where you spend an evening, for that go to Poggio, next door - the other place Larry owns. That one has fabulous ambiance and you can hear each other conversations. But this little Mexican place is very good for in and out, or some drinks at the bar.

Went in today after having a hankering for Mexican food all morning. Nothing about the food was that spectacular, but everything was well executed. What I found to be a slight bummer is that nothing was pushing the limit. Very little heat, nothing was really packing a punch. Instead of delivering "wow"-worthy dishes, I think the menu is playing more to the tourist crowd. A little safe...

Delicious and delightful. The tequila selection is dazzling. The food is original, fresh, and thoughtful. We sat on the beautiful terrace but we could see the gorgeous wood burning oven coming from the back of the restaurant. Our waiter was charming and attentive and the food was served with care. We drove from San Francisco for my birthday lunch, and I'm so glad we did. We will be returning regularly.

Apparently they're too good to take a reservation for, and I quote, "just two people". I was given the option of calling ahead tonight to "see how long the wait is". Yeah, not bending over backwards to have the distinct honor of paying $14 for a taco.

What a shame. This place is a tourist trap. (Yes we were tourists). Extra charge for about a soup bowl full of chips and salsa. Believe charge was $3.50. Chicken tacos were very small. A lot of lettuce and a spoonful or two or chicken pieces. And ... waitress said they did not have any light beer. Service was uninspired & robotic. Nope. Won't go back again.

A solid restaurant in the heart of Sausalito. The food here is pretty amazing. The flavors are done quite well and it was executed well. I would recommend getting the 24 hour carnitas (with awesome guacamole and house made flour tortillas). The beef was cooked to perfection and it was prepared with the right amount of care - the dish was not oily/fatty in taste and it was not overly salted. I cannot wait to come again and try some of their tacos!

I have eaten here twice in the past two days. Delicious chicken and tacos. Fun, vibrant atmosphere. Try the Lorenzo Margarita with two ounces of Agave Tequila. $12 but a beautifully balanced cocktail. I will be back.

Very expensive for what you get. Even a can of Coke was $4 (Manhattan prices in Sausalito). The food is excellent - they are the Tacolicious of Marin (although not quite as good). If you're staying in Marin, this is as good as it gets - taste wise. Value is another story.

I've admired Joanne Weir for a long time, and was anxious to try this restaurant. It didn't disappoint. Everything I tried at a recent lunch was delicious: the margaritas, the guacamole, and the carnitas. Wonderful! Copita is right in the middle of Sausalito, with a small outdoor eating area. It's a casual and comfortable space with excellent food.

Went over on a Sunday 11:30 a.m. reservations party of 6--we were the only ones in there until close to noon. Place was cold as all the doors were open for patio seating. Ordered our drinks (a Copita margarita (okay), and two of us ordered what the menu said were unlimited mimosas. I was surprised that the waitress didn't come by more often to see if either wanted refills, so they had to mention it themselves (when the bill came we were charged for 6 individual ones, not the unlimited, a difference of $20. The day before I called to make sure we could get the lunch menu as well as the brunch menu and was told yes, although the host seemed surprised when I asked for the lunch menu and had to go back to ask the chef. Had heard so much about the oyster tacos so I was looking forward to getting them. After placing our orders the waitress came back a few minutes later and said "we've just run out of the oysters." I found this amazing since it was our party and at this point two tables of two. Just out? So I switched my order to the fried pork belly. The tacos were very good, as well as the brunch specials that we all ordered, but the tacos are small, and you get no sides. I asked about them and the waitress recommended the ceviches. Not what I was looking for. She mentioned some quinoa (which had some red onion and cilantro chopped on top--that was it) served in a small ramekin ($5). Not worth it. I should have ordered 4 tacos instead of 2. Ordered the chips (didn't bring salsa but charged us the amount they charge for chips + salsa), and ordered two dishes of the quacamole (first one went fast (smallish serving, but very good). Was probably our fault for not asking for the salsa, but you'd have thought that we wouldn't have to do so (at this point we were the only ones in the place). The chocolate ice cream/tequila shake for dessert was awesome. Overall tasty, but a bit pricey.

Food was absolutely excellent. Appetizers and large meals were amazing. Even their house made drinks were delicious and cheaper than a diet coke. The service is good until they get overwhelmed during lunch and dinner.

Cool restaurant, excellent location, decent tacos. I think they just need to work out a few kinks of being a *new restaurant before I can provide a better review. The tables are really too close to one another... I have no problem conversing with strangers and making new friends, but when people can't get their butts to fit between the tables to get in / out of their seat, then that's a little sucky. I have to pay for chips and salsa? Considering the prices of everything else, those should be free - especially since they don't get refilled. The house margaritas were decent, and I noticed some really good tequilas being offered so those are +'s. The waiter wiped down our table when we were done eating - after he had already taken our plates away - even though it wasn't that messy. It felt a little bit like he was anxious for us to leave so that they could seat new people at the table since it was beginning to get busy. Since I don't live near Sausalito, I doubt I will revisit this restaurant but I hope they improve since I think it definitely has potential.

Was our ladies night, and my friends and I were looking for somewhere to have a good time and this new place seemed the place to go. the restaurant was full and there was no tables available at the moment- besides the bartender with a captivating smile was the perfect excuse to sit at the bar (I thought someone with a smile like that for sure mix good cocktails) Our bartender Juan Carlo (hope I spelled correctly) a smiling ( yeah I liked that smile) and courteous guy who looked like a runner, was just the touch of the night! I had never been a big fan of Margaritas until I had one of his- the house margarita- finally a Margarita made from scratch- using real fresh limes- as our bartender explained us "We do not use any mix bottle at This Bar, everything here is fresh, and we make all our juices from real fruits" OMG I want to Have an accent like that... Ops! Five minutes later the hostess informed us that there was a table available for my girls and me, but none of us wanted to leave our bartender... and we all decided to eat at the bar. It was time to order food and what better than to ask for a recommendation to Juan Carlo, he suggested us to share an order of guacamole and ceviche and as main course "canitas" Mr. nice smile was right; the pork was delicious. After having dinner and drinking some Margaritas (perhaps more than we should...Ops) we ordered an Ok dessert "the Coconut pudding" Our ladies night was a success we can't wait to come back! Thanks

I was here with 3 of my friends. Even though the food was decent, the portion sizes for almost everything on the menu were really small. Overall, I think the place is overpriced.

We've now been here 3 times & while the food is excellent, there are indeed some teething problems, as there usually are with any new business. The service is, at best, uneven. Food arrives in a helter skelter order & you could die of thirst waiting for a drink order to arrive. Why is the service bar at the front entrance? Why not located back near the middle of the space so the servers don't have to wade through the entire room to get your drink order? Umm, well okay... let's see what happens. I was hoping for a new Latino place that serves imaginative food rather than a tourist trap.

This place is great! Definitely what Sausalito needed. Great food, low prices, lively atmosphere. The chopped salad is nice and fresh, and the mushroom tacos and tamalitos are delicious. Read more about the restaurant on my blog: wp.me/p1BHVB-bq

Well I finally got back to Copita and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Carnitas and they were fantastic. Portion size was also good. I don't discount my previous review as it was the experience I had but it was nice to know that other items on the menu were actually quite good. I love Mexican food and it is nice to have a local place which serves high end Mexican food. As I noted before the restaurant is beatutiful and the location is also very cool. I have upgraded my score and will definatley be heading back.

We ate our way through California for 10 days. We found this little gem after we rode our bikes over the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito. We sat for a quick lunch at the bar before we had to catch our ferry. My husband is gluten free and double checked that the corn chips we were served were indeed corn. The manager chimed in that the menu happens to be entirely gluten free. Even though he was trying to get some work done, the manager was patient as my husband proceeded to talk his ear off about gluten free eating. He was very proud of his product and it was evident. We were elated and wish we could take more time to sample the menu. We shared guac and chips and the pork belly tacos. The guac was decent but the tacos were where it is at. Delicious doesn't begin to describe these little beauties. The corn tortillas are definitely small but I see this as more gourmet than the larger tortillas because when you are enjoying pork belly, a ton of tortilla just gets in the way. The pork belly graciously overflowed the tortillas and the flavor was spot on. I highly recommend this place whether you are gluten free or not (because I'm not).

Food was excellent and so was the service, I had the 24 Hour Carnitas which were awesome. The place is a bit pricey for the proportions you get so I agree with the other reviewers on that aspect. Your bill can add up if you start ordering a few of their cocktails ($9 per).

I had high hopes for this restaurant, as does anyone when it comes to a "celebrity" chef's restaurant. Unfortunately this definitely disappointed. I really enjoy fish tacos and saw they had multiple taco options for the same price. I'm thinking, i don't want three of the same taco, but would rather have one of eat. No m'am, you cannot have one of each. Okay, fine, i'll just get the basic sea bass tacos. They came to the table, a little small. pinapple salsa on the side was okay, not sure what it was there for. The cabbage in the taco was dry and unseasoned, i took out most since all it did was made the taco bitter. There was a bit of avo somewhere but didn't make much of a difference. And my fish was dry. Really underwhelming, especially considering we live in California. There were other issues when it came to seating and service but i'm thinking that can all be worked out eventually. My limeade was sooooo tart that i almost was tempted to ask for a glass of club soda to pour in. I get what they're aiming for, but Sol Food has you beat on that drink by leaps and bounds. I hope Joanne Weir improves her restaurant, but for the quality and portion and price, I won't be going back. Let the tourists eat there instead.

Very disappointing. I read about this new restaurant in Sausalito on another website. It looked great. However, if you are a vegetarian - don't go here. There is nothing on the menu that is veggie and they are not accommodating at all. My wife and I left. It is very unusual in Northern California for a restaurant to not have some meatless items on the menu - especially a Mexican restaurant. Eating Mexican food is probably one of the easiest for vegetarians. Oh well. It seemed like a nice place, but not for us.

Came here with high hopes and so wanting to like this new Tequileria in the heart of Sausalito. Why wouldn't we? An extensive tequila menu, cuisine by Joanne Weir and a lively, open air atmosphere have all the makings of a great new eatery, for both locals and tourists alike... at least on paper. Unfortunately, this place has a lot of room to grow. Food: The halibut ceviche included mango, cilantro, cucumber and jalapeno, all the ingredients for sweet-heat greatness. I love spicy food, but the too big chunks of jalapeno brought way too much heat, made it unbalanced and difficult to enjoy. My husband ordered the flat-iron steak tacos for his entree. The meat was tender and cooked a nice med-rare, but was noticeably bland and under-seasoned. The rotisserie chicken suffered from the same problem; well cooked, but under-seasoned and lacking in flavor. The dish came with tortillas, a forgettable pickled vegetable salad and a ramekin of black beans with tasty bits of chorizo (the best part of the dish). The challenge of these dishes as a whole was that they needed a bit more flavor and something that pulled all of the pieces together. Service/Front of House: when we first arrived we were warmly greeted and were pleased that we did not have to wait very long for a table. After being seated in the patio under heat lamps, we had plenty of time to peruse the one page menu, as we waited a good ten minutes before anyone acknowledged that we were at the table. Service improved after our order was taken, but when we left the restaurant, the woman at the door simply looked the other way when we left instead of saying goodbye or thanks for coming. The unisex bathrooms also needed a bit more attention to keep them clean. These taken separately seem like nit-picky items, but when taken together, it does leave an unfavorable impression that is hard to ignore. Drinks: We loved the Herradura Blanco margaritas. They were really the highlight of the dinner (at least the first round). Unfortunately, I found a long hair half way through my second drink, which eliminated the desire to consume much else but water therafter. In my formative years, I worked in the restaurant industry for over ten years, so am sympathetic to new local places that are trying to gain a faithful following. However, there are a number of things that don't quite come together just yet. Overall, I have to say it was a bit disappointing. I'll try it again in a few months to see if they have worked to pull things together more. If things haven't improved by then, I wouldn't go back..

*EDIT* I'm adding one more star to my review. I've since returned and while it was still not a beguiling meal that made me long for more, they seemed to have fixed some of the problems that existed before. The Ceviche actually came this time and was spicy and well balanced. The tamales were cooked this time but nothing great. The pork was not old and stale, but still not great. Some of the dishes had flavor that outdid anything we had before, so the experience was a ton better. Overall, a two of 5 star review is still warranted. Keep in mind the only reason I went back was due to lack of options. At this point, I'd stick with drinks and a small selection of app-sized dishes. Anything beyond that is just throwing money away. ************** This place is garbage. All I've been hearing is "celeb chef" and "all star dining experience." Anything but. I don't care if you opened an hour ago or a month. Food was bland and cold...when it came. Drinks were expensive and average. When I finally ditched the $9 marg for a Dos Equis...I finally got something worth consuming. Ceviche and Guac ordered never came. Tamales came cold in the middle. Slow cooked pork which seemed like it'd been slow cooked since last month. Also, why are there meatballs on a Mexican menu?!? This superstar chef, by the way, sat drinking a glass of wine with two friends while the rest of the dining room waited for any food...or bad food...to arrive. Over promised and way under delivered. Here's a better bet...10 pack from Taco Bell and a tall boy of Corona. You'll not only be better served but keep your hard earned $ in your wallet rather than line the pockets of a generation of restauranteurs who just don't care. ***I'm editing my review based on some subsequent comments*** First off, I'm not a hater. I don't have mob mentality. I don't have a need to see this place fail. Quite the opposite. I've been looking forward to this place for a long time. I love mexican (all kinds) and I love margaritas. What I got here was cold, bland food and slow, inattentive (yet apologetic) service. Joanne Weir seemed unphased by the unhappy faces in the crowd...ours included. Our Carnitas were dry and way overdone. Our tamales were cold. Our ceviche and guac never came. Our drinks came very slow. I'm writing this so that the owners & operators read it and at least try to fix it. If they don't, then we're stuck with yet another in a long line of failed culinary efforts in the great town of Sausalito. Take my review how you will, but these are my thoughts of my experience. Period.

Meh. Very nice staff. But the very noisy bar is alongside the tables and that makes for a dinner surrounded by drunks on weekends. Extrremely small food portions. Our waitress told us that the owners are aware of the noise problems and are planning on fixing the acoustics, but as long as I have the butts of noisy commuters from the City who march over here right off the ferry, where they have had their first cocktail, I'm not going back. Perhaps if we could reserve a table outside it would be a different story. But this is what happens when the bar is part of the dining room.. Good guacamole though!

I recently had friends from Melbourne, Australia visiting me, and we were doing the tourist "thing" in Sausalito. We were in need of something to drink, and I spotted Copita across the street.....which I was aware of as I'm a JoAnne Weir cookbook fan and had read of the recent opening. Well, it was not busy but we were basically asked to sit at the bar which was awkward for visiting....since there were 4 of us. Three of us ordered margaritas and one the my Aussie friends asked for coffee. It seemed that no one knew how to make coffee (!!!!). The bartender had to start asking around to see if any of the other staff knew how??? The staff seemed confused and dazed, in general. No one seemed the least bit friendly or "service oriented". Service was slow. We asked for a bowl of chips & sauce which was not within reach of at least two of us without passing everything back and forth. "Someone" was chased down who could actually make a cup of coffee....but it took forever to reach us. Also, the owner made several extended appearances at the other end of the bar, looked and behaved in a rather "unfriendly/serious" manner with various members of her staff.....and not once did she acknowledge any of her paying customers with a casual glance or smile. We were not impressed with anything about Copia, but good luck!!!

This being my second time dining at Copita, I was pretty sure that I was going to have a good meal (after all, my first experience here blew me away) but there were a lot of special elements involved so I wasn't expecting fireworks again. We arrived for our 7:15 reservation and were seated right away. I was pleasantly surprised to see my waiter from my previous visit would be helping us this time and we both remembered each other which I was struck by given how many people he must see. I told him how excited I was to be back and he mentioned my Yelp review and how Joanne (Weir - the chef/owner) had called attention to it at the restaurant and how much it was appreciated. We were starving so before he could bring over our drinks (an Albarino for me and a beer for S), we ordered the Shrimp & Rajas tacos. Because only three come in an order, he asked if we'd like to add one more so we wouldn't have to share (or fight) which was a nice touch. The tacos arrived and they were delicious - each element was seasoned perfectly (poblanos, shrimp, corn, crema enveloped in an amazing corn tortilla) which when combined were simply magical - no small feat when only 5 ingredients are used. As we ate, Joanne Weir stopped by and I was once again blown away by her genuine friendliness, not to mention the fact that she remembered me. We chatted a bit and she asked if she could bring us something - another nice touch. It was a lovely gesture and she brought over some guacamole and chips. The chips were phenomenal - they're seasoned well with a toothsome crunchiness and all around great "corn" taste. And the guacamole is out of this world - creamy with a nice touch of heat - it was hard not to devour it all. Next up was the Coctel Mixto ceviche which contained lobster, scallops, shrimp and halibut, tomato, orange and chiles. Wow! I loved the halibut crudo I had last time but this was extraordinary. I'm typically not a fan of tomato based ceviches (they're usually watery) but this was different. The tomatoes were diced and only played an accompanying role in this dish. The orange flavor was so intense but wasn't cloying and was such a perfect complement to the seafood and shellfish. As we were eating, our waiter mentioned that they had added a new taco dish - Chicken Tinga which they made using the Wood-Roasted Guajillo Chicken that spins on the rotisserie - a focal point of the entire restaurant. The chicken smells delicious so we ordered those and the 24-hour Carnitas. The tacos were incredible and are up there with the carnitas as a favorite dish. The chicken is stewed with tomatoes, onions and chipotle (which you can taste distinctly - smoky and savory) and topped with avocado, queso fresco and crema. I could have eaten these all night and been happy. But, the carnitas were waiting and by this point my husband already had one and was about to put together another one when our waiter appeared with the pineapple, citrus vinaigrette (I tried this per his recommendation last time so requested it again) along with some diced mango. Also on the side was guacamole plus cilantro and diced red onion which when combined makes ones mouth very, very, happy. My husband had finished his beer and ordered the Sangria which was so delicious that we asked about how it was made - they use either a Pinot Noir or Rose and add strawberries with cinnamon and cloves. The spices give it such a smooth, vanilla-y taste that it was refreshing and sweet without being sugary. Joanne came over and brought her husband (whom I had the opportunity to meet last time). We chatted about my previous visit and how happy I was to be there again (without being stood up this time). They're both such lovely, down to earth people and at this point I felt like a member of their family given how nicely I'd been treated. After we finished our meal, we tried to order dessert (the coconut flan) but our waiter told me he was "hooking us up" which included not only the flan but the Oaxacan Chocolate Milkshake (my husband wanted to order this originally so he was thrilled). The flan was sublime - the coconut flavor was deeply present throughout without being overpowering and the cherries that accompany it pushed it over the top. They're soaked in agave and they're tart crispness are such a perfect complement to the creaminess of the custard. The milkshake was incredible - the chocolate flavor was deep, rich and lightly spiced. The Anejo tequila that's in it was subtle at first but finished on a warm, smooth note. On the side were Mexican wedding cookies which were crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. As an added touch, our waiter brought us a few of the cookies to take home which was so thoughtful. Sausalito has seen the addition of some pretty good restaurants but Copita has them all beat. The atmosphere, the service and the food all combine to create a dining experience that can't easily be replicated - especially for the value.

Nice atmosphere although very noisy. Inattentive folks at the door - the best margaritas ever... food was "ok"... and not very much of it... Pricing seems high for small portions - we left hungry. I hear they're not wild about locals and don't think they need them.... wait until November!

Finally! A cool place with yummy food and great vibe that isn't for tourists in Sausalito!!!! Living in the city, I've always wanted something like this too open and now that it has, I'm a huge fan & can't wait for many upscale mexican style fiesta nights there!

I have only been to Copita once and I can't wait to go again! We were a party of six. We started at the bar and had some amazing tequila served to us by a very friendly and knowledgable bar tender. Then we proceeded on to the family table at the front of resturaunt. What made me the happiest that night was finding out that the entire dinner menu is GLUTEN FREE!!!!! I have Celiac disease so this was such a wonderful surprise. The food and the service were excellent and the ambiance was fun and lively.

The food was amazing here. The drinks are creative and spot on. The service was great and the bartenders are badass. The guac is very good and so are the carnitas. For drinks; the Mexican 75 is REALLY GREAT! Also, the halibut ceviche ...awesome.

  • Happy C.

Think of this as a place to drink tequilla that also serves food, and you won't be too disappointed. The ceviche at Fish is much better, and a better value for portion size. The half chicken is much cheaper here than at Poggio, but wasn't cooked properly (the breast was overdone and dry). So, maybe they can improve the execution as time goes by, because with the crowds they are getting, the look to be likely to be there for a while.

We had the most lovely dinner at Copita. When we walked in, we were immediately impressed by the setting. The renovation is outstanding; the attention to detail is what makes this restaurant so lovely. Since it's a small plates restaurant, we first ordered one of Joanne Weir's amazing margaritas, if you love a true margarita, you won't be disappointed, and set to perusing the menu. We had amazing chicken tacos, several of the fish ceviche, (we love ceviche!), which were all super fresh. The skirt tacos were wonderful. The quesadillas are over the top delicious. I lived in Mexico as a child, and so it was real treat to eat traditional mexican food. Desert is fabulous. The cupcakes are the VERY BEST that you will ever have, and the milkshake with cookies is perfect. The atmosphere is happening and fun. Our waitress was helpful without being intrusive. If you are the kind of foodie, who likes to watch the kitchen--there are tables with great views of the oven and the chefs working. The outside dinning looks inviting. Joanne Weir did a beautiful job designing the menu, the chefs are doing super job. The location is perfect. After our dinner, my good friend and I took a walk along the ocean front with her dog. The art galleries were closed, but it was fun to window-shop, and the moon shone beautifully on the water, and we could see the lights of the city. It was a perfect way to end the evening. Her dog even had a nice little swim in the ocean. I am going back and taking my husband this weekend.

Lucky me! I first went to Copita on the Gourmet Food Tour that was a part of the 10-year Yelp Anniversary Celebration. I came back again for lunch. Returning to restaurants, or businesses, that host Yelp events is important to me for two reasons. First, I feel I should go back as a paying customer. Secondly, to give an unbiased review, I have to order from the menu. It just took me awhile to make my way back here. There are several interesting dishes on the menu. The pork belly tacos and the salsa & chips were so good when I tasted them on the food tour, I ordered them again. Spicy margaritas are not on the menu however, they did prepare one for me. Copita is an upscale Mexican restaurant in touristy Sausalito and does not have a typical Tex-Mex menu; the prices reflect this. The tacos were Niman ranch pork belly, pickled red onions, pipián green pumpkin seed & hoja santa mole I was almost drooling. With all those different ingredients, it sounds like they might be large tacos. Wrong! They are small nuggets--just a tasty bite or two. The $5 chips were fresh and the two seasonal salsas were good. The heat was not overwhelming. I just wished there was more or they refilled my little bowls so the salsa lasted until I finished the chips. The margarita was perfect. I did not go way hungry; I had a few chips to take home. The tacos were delicious. However, $30 for two taco nuggets, some chips with two salsas and a cocktail seemed too pricey to me.

We ordered the taco box with steak, fish, and chicken tacos. The chicken tacos were delicious, and I would definitely get them again. The fish tacos weren't that great. The fish was overcooked, and the tortillas were much thicker than the rest and rather chewy. The flavors just didn't quite marry together. The steak tacos were tasty, but the beef was a bit on the tough side. The complimentary chips don't taste of anything but fryer oil and tons of super fine salt. The red salsa was gross, and the green salsa was watery and bland. I'd still like to sample some more food from here in the future and see if it was just an off day, because I do see lots of potential here.

Copita just keeps getting better and better. The kitchen and bar never disappoint. This evening, my motley crew of 8 came in for dinner/drinks. Originally, we had made a reservation for just 4 people, but then suddenly our party size doubled. Most busy restaurants would have turned us away. But not Copita. They went above and beyond to accommodate our large group. After a short wait (translation: one margarita later) at the bar, we were all seated, and treated to a delicious fiesta. The food here remains top-notch. Our table happily noshed on their chips, salsa, and guac. And then we all split a variety of their gourmet tacos. My personal favorites are their Carne Asada tacos (Neiman ranch marinated beef, poblano peppers, caramelized yellow onions, roasted garlic & jalapeño crema, cilantro), and their Chicken Tinga Tacos (Rotisserie chicken, tomatoes, chipotle, avocado, queso fresco, crema, cilantro). A pair of these fine tacos will run you around $12/$13. Sure, it's a bit more expensive than some other Mexican restaurants. But then again, Copita ain't no traditional taqueria. These guys are offering some pretty amazing/modern twists to Mexican cuisine. And if you really want to treat yourself right (and don't mind the calories/carbs), be sure to get an order of their Papas Bravas (Roasted & fried Kennebec potatoes, fried jalapeños, cumin-arbol chile dusted, avocado crema). After trying one of these spectacular spuds, you may never order French Fries ever again. Yes - they're THAT good. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Copita's fine cocktail/tequila program. If you want a damn tasty margarita, then order the Copita Margarita (Herradura Blanco, fresh lime juice, agave nectar). If you're feeling more daring, I would recommend the the Spicy Pomegrante Margarita (House made spicy tequila, La Pinta Pomegranate tequila, lime). And if you're not in a tequila mood, their Mojito ain't shabby either. In my opinion, what really makes Copita stand out above the rest - the service. Each time I've been in there (whether at the bar or the restaurant), I've been greeted with warm smiles and friendly vibes. The employees (everyone from the hostess to the bartender to Cassie the GM) actually look like they enjoy working there. Their positive spirit is infectious. So when you dine at Copita, you can't help but have fun with them. I can't wait to come back! Keep up the great work, guys! : )

We were sitting down here at 3:00 PM on a Wednesday within 2 hours of landing at SFO, waiting for luggage and picking up a rental car. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that my margarita was just ok, the chips weren't very salty and the salsa didn't have enough zip for me. With all of that said, you have to visit this place. Waitstaff was very friendly. The guacamole was great, the on special pork tacos were amazing and the Mahi Mahi tacos were by far the best fish tacos I have ever had.

Amazing! We came up from Santa Cruz for a mini-vacay and the front desk guy from our hotel recommended Copita to us as his favorite place. We were thrilled! Good Mexican is rare in Santa Cruz so our expectations weren't too high. We were blown away! Classic ceviche was just the right amount. Fish was very fresh and so tasty. Molè enchiladas were outstanding, with so much flavor! The addition of bits of Asian pear was just perfect. Wait staff was efficient, very attentive and super friendly. Copita is worth driving almost 2 hours from Santa Cruz just for a meal. Thanks Copita!!

I wish I lived in Sausalito so I could eat here everyday! The ceviche is delicious. I love the salsa and guacamole. Service is good. Whatever they are doing here, they are doing it right. I came here a year before and was pleasantly surprised this year to see how much they improved their already amazing restaurant.

Found this place just by accident walking around in Sausalito. Very nice place inside and nice patio seating area. We sat at the bar and ordered off the hangover brunch menu. Margaritas were sooo good!! Very good drink selection, mainly tequila based. Good selection of tequila on hand as well. The food was excellent and the service too!! Highly recommend it if yoyu are not in the mood for seafood or burgers, which seems to be the normal fair everywhere else in town.

I am very picky about Mexican food, being a chef and also being Mexican. I can say that this place is pretty darn great. Great food flavors and profiles. The staff goes way out of their way to make sure service is great and the tequila is awesome! Same goes for margaritas. Make the trip. The tequila they serve is worth the trip. As for the hater who said the tequila is watered down. Um, stick to Chevy's. They have plenty of cheap tequila that will take the first layer of your teeth's enamel off. LOL.

I went to Copita this weekend with my hubby and our favorite date night friends and had a blast. You can not beat beautiful weather and a great new spot to eat. Copita was packed but our server was nice enough to get us a spot if we agreed to be out the seats by 7pm, DONE ! We were hungry and had no problem with this request. We ordered the whole roasted chicken which came with tortillas, beans & salsa which fed all four of us and was very juicy with great flavor. We also ordered the elote asado which we all loved and will be back for. A spot if you are visiting Sausalito or in the area.

Didn't have any food here, but the tequila flight was amazing (and reasonably priced). The bartender talked our ear off with useful tasting info about the tequilas and was all-around very friendly. As two tequila novices, we definitely appreciated that and would come back any day.

My fish tacos were the smallest tacos I have ever seen. Ever. And also disappointed to see that the pictures posted by other eaters, show a much fuller taco, loaded with toppings. Take a look for yourself. I was beside myself!

For convenience, it's right across from the Ferry terminal so a 1 For service it's a ZERO. In reading all the reviews the food looked great but if you can't get served or helped that's a problem. Waitresses are rude and do not acknowledge or check in with you and cater to certain tables. Our experience was horrible with the waitresses. The hostess on the other hand goofed off at the back bar with the rest of the waitstaff. When asking for a manager, she could not locate her. For a little effort explore and go up the street there are other Mexican options with much better service that treat you like a human being. Quality service needs to match quality food.

While staying in Sausalito one night, my husband and I were in the market for something quick and delicious that wasn't super expensive. So we landed here. The restaurant was packed the night we were there due to a tequila tasting or something, so we were tucked away in the back when we really wanted to be out on the patio, but it wasn't a huge deal. It took awhile for our waiter to come get our drink order, and then after he took that, it was another 20 minutes before he came and took our food order. Good thing we were starving or I would have been super hangry. It seemed like the people around us were getting much better service and maybe it was because they were ordering tons of rounds of chips and lots of drinks and we were just having a little meal, but service shouldn't differ based on what you order. My husband ordered the oyster tacos and loved them. I had a bite and they were very delicious. I ordered the trio of tamales. The pork one was awesome, the chicken one was OK and the shrimp one was disgusting. I love tamales too, so I was pretty disappointed. Overall, poor service and less than stellar food made it a less than perfect meal.

It was a beautiful afternoon and my wife, 5 year old and I had just taken the ferry to Sausalito and were walking on the bridge way. We stumbled across this restaurant and the ambiance seemed inviting. My 5 yr old was in full brat mode, being exhausted from the day's activities, was insisting for a burger. Luckily they had an establishment next door and we decided it would be courteous to ask if they would allow us to bring a burger in from the establishment next door while we, of course, would eat from their menu To my astonishment they would not accommodate. So I cancelled my reservation and decided to have a burger with my son when, in fact, I was really forward to having some Mexican food and a couple of cold ones. So even though I didn't try their food, the sour taste they left in my mouth was enough to dissuade me

Horrible horrible service. Do not go. The male waiter at the door greeted us with no respect. There are a ton of restaurants that are better on the same street.

Needed a quick byte while hooping off a tour bus for 40 minutes. My wife and I walked down bridge water road and while there were lots of places to select we decided on this one. I ordered a taco soup which included avocados, chucking and small prices of carrots and cucumber. The soup was not hardy but was enough to sustain for a couple of hours until we reach San Francisco. The soup came very fast and was worth the 11 dollar value. The ambiance was great, not the best view of the sea but we had sidewalk sitting which made for a pleasant view of people and the shops near by.

Lol I don't know who this place thinks they are. The food is mediocre, below average to say the least. And they charge $4 a street taco...

Tequila? Mezcal? Great food? Heck yes. It is wonderful The selection is 5 Star. The food look like a magazine set. OMG ... the pork belly tacos. Gotta have it. And the Appetizers. Wow. I love it there. But it is pricey so be prepared.

My husband and I drive all the way from San Bruno just to go to Copita to eat and have a drink! Walking by it all the time, seeing the fire and smelling fresh rotisserie chicken hitting my nose really made me want to try it. The chips and salsa are amazing, the fresh made guacamole is awesome, and my favorite drink is the red sangria (with a hint of tequila of course.) It gets packed and it gets a little crowded sometimes, but with the food, drinks, and ambiance going you don't realize it. Love it here.

I had better mexican food for a less price at a taco truck. I think this place is all about the hype and because it's in a busy location people like to go. The service was good, friendly and fast but the food was tasteless and very BLAH! I guess if you are looking for a margarita and pair it with chips and salsa this is your place to go.

One star for horrible customer service. The hostess was terrible and the bartender was inattentive. I recommend going somewhere else.

  • Jordan G.

First, the food is good quality and very tasty. Second the ambiance is great. But I do have to say (and why 3 stars) that to be charged for chips and salsa 5 bucks (and they barely give you any salsa) when every taqueria on earth gives them away for free is just offensive. Also, to charge an extra $6 for beans and rice to come as a side (also they give you barely any) for $21 tacos (which is already pricey) is just ridiculous. The food is good, but we won't go back again because it's just not priced / plated correctly.

I woke up today craving what I had here last night: Elote Asada. A must get!! It's a succulent, sweet grilled street corn on the cob, ribboned with a delicious spicy cilantro aioli, cojita cheese, and red onions. TO DIE FOR. The mahi mahi tacos with roasted pineapple pico de gallo and fried tomatillos in a handmade, moist tortilla were also delicious and perfectly balanced. To boot, our waiter was one of most attentive I've ever had and the entire staff was friendly and seemed genuinely happy that we were there and that we enjoyed our meal so much. An all-around delightful experience!

As a generalization, food in Marin is not as good as in SF or the East Bay. When the best burrito in Mill Valley is from the Whole Foods, that is a telling statement. Copita is located in downtown Sausalito, which is swarming with tourists. The worst ones are the people who rent bikes at Pier 39 and then bike across the Golden Gate Bridge and end up in Sausalito tired and hungry. After narrowly avoiding hitting a few of these tourists on bicycles, I found a convenient parking space. Since I am an American, I do not like to walk very far and there is no free parking in downtown Sausalito. The town is currently experimenting with three new types of pay-to-park machines, two of which are unintuitive and confusing and therefore cause long lines to form behind them. Why someone at the city couldn't just pick the best one is beyond comprehension, but I hope the reason involves cronyism. I managed to cross the street without being hit by any tourists on bicycles, and was promptly seated in Copita. It was about noon but the restaurant was mostly empty. I ordered a Negra Modelo in a bottle, which was delivered without a lime, so I had to ask my server for that, and he returned with a bowl which contained four limes. Maybe he thought I was going to order three more beers. I decided on the Neiman Ranch Carne Asada tacos. It sounded good and I was hoping they would be in the same ballpark as the Best Tacos Ever which are from Tacubaya in Berkeley. "Um, I forgot to tell you that we are out of carne asada, we got our delivery late today," my server informed me. Chicken tacos were my second choice. "We're also out of chicken." Fine, I'll take the Mahi-Mahi (the fish so nice they named it twice) tacos. You know to never order fish on a Monday, right? There are no seafood deliveries on Sundays, so any fish that is being served on Monday is two days old, minimum. Thankfully it was a Thursday. The tacos took a while to show up, and during this time I eavesdropped on my neighbors who were discussing what they were going to order. "I think the carne asada tacos look good," one said. I almost interrupted to let them know they're not on the menu, but was distracted when I got a text on my phone from my friend Crispian, who moved to New Orleans. After the guys next to me attempted to order carne asada, the server said, "Um, I forgot to tell you that we are out of carne asada, we got our delivery late today and it's not ready." They proceeded to order the chicken tacos, but for some reason that was now back on the menu. Five minutes after he had told me they weren't. I was slightly irritated that he didn't let me know they were available and did I want to change my order, but whatever. Anyway, I discovered the reason that my fish tacos were slow coming out was because the cook forgot them on the grill. They were not so overcooked as to warrant saying something or sending them back, but when it's $13 for two tacos, they better not suck. I hear the ceviche is very good here but I wanted carne asada tacos. I asked for the check and my server said okay and then just walked away. The manager saw my credit card sitting out and promptly brought me the check. Clearly it wasn't her first day. One saving grace was the Escher-esque tile job in the bathroom. It was fantastic.

Situation: There we were walking down the streets of downtown Sausalito when I spotted the Copita patio, where everyone seemed happy sipping on their margaritas and enjoying the beautiful day. I thought "That needs to be me, pronto!" It turns out that some of our friends were there, so we were seated inside with them. Order: Chips, salsa, and guacamole (I really enjoyed the green salsa, although they did fail to mention that it wasn't free). The pork belly tacos just called to me from the menu and they didn't disappoint. The ceviche was good, but didn't stand out. The copita margarita was spectacular (read: we ended up making it a mostly liquid dinner). Service: The service was a bit lackluster as others have mentioned. We were unable to track down our server several times and it took quite awhile to get our orders. However, the manager did come over and was very friendly about stepping in and getting us our orders. He was also extremely knowledgeable about tequila and the drinks that we were ordering and definitely made our night! So this review is mostly for him - if he could just duplicate himself! Price: Overall, the price was a bit steep for what we ordered. For two appetizers, four drinks, and part of the order of chips and guac, it was $100 including tax and tip. However, the ambiance was nice, and as mentioned we had a lovely chat with the manager and some free tequila tastings which certainly helped make up for it :)

The food here is fabulous! I would highly recommend the 24 hour carnitas tacos. YUM! However whatever you choose you will not be disappointed. The main reason why I am reviewing this place is because of their service. Everyone is very friendly and always making sure you are set regardless if they are your waiter or not. I never had to ask for one thing. If my chips needed to be refilled someone was in hand to do so. I did drive all the way from Sonoma county to have dinner there last night. Unfortunately an incident happened with another patron and it was a little disturbing. However the manager Cassie made sure that we were okay and took very good care of us. That is the kind of service I expect in any restaurant when faced with a problematic scenario. With that being said Thank you! I will definitely be bringing business back to this place. Valuing your customers goes a long way and Copita and the lovely staff definitely know how to uphold that!

Decent tacos, great cocktails. Guacamole was very good. They charge for chips and salsa.. I do like these style of tacos, very fresh, tasty chicken, avocado, cilantro.

We were treated to a tasting here on a lovely Friday afternoon. The margaritas were some of the best I've had ( and I'm a margarita connoisseur). I will be thinking of them in the months to come...(sigh) Guacamole tasted so fresh and the chips were really well executed. Not too salty or greasy. Just perfect. I'm usually not a fan of pork belly, but their pork belly tacos were really light and tasty. We got to try the ceviche tostada bites - mmmm I could eat a whole plate of those by myself! Would love to come back here and sit at the outside tables and enjoy a delicious marg and try some more of their food. I will be back!!

Where do I start? We (a group of 8) showed up around 4:30 yesterday afternoon and just wanted some drinks and appetizers. A host, whom I assume was the manager (taller blonde gentleman) said the bar was open but otherwise they were very booked with reservations. We started to leave and he said he did have a table after all, but we would need to make it quick and he out by 6. LOL, what?! After reading some reviews, I see that this is a common theme with this restaurant. Don't seat us if we're are such a burden to you. I have never been told that in my entire life, so you can imagine my shock. Our waiter was very sweet but I felt like it was his first day serving people. Maybe he was just having an off night. Our margaritas were $12, I believe. They were good, but not all that like we were expecting. The hubby and I got two chicken tacos to split and although they were expensive for some street tacos, I have to admit they were awesome. While we were waiting for our food, the same guy who told us we needed to be out at 6 talked to a group of four young men behind us and said "You guys are using my tables for drinks? If you're gonna be sitting at the tables you better be getting food, if not I need you out in 30 mins." WTF is up with this guy? Serious, stop seating people if you're booked up, and if you do, be happy they're paying for your overpriced drinks. That same guy sat for a good 30 mins talking to a buddy and watching golf on ESPN. He was practicing his golf swing in the middle of the restaurant, too. I felt like I was on an episode of kitchen nightmares. Did I miss something? I can happily say I will never go to Sausalito again with the sheer amount of people, but especially not this place.

This place was a pleasant surprise. It was very busy when we walked in so there was a slight delay in getting our drink and food order. As soon as our waiter noticed no one had come by he was immediately on top of it. The service was fantastic. Even the manager came by to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. The ingredients were very fresh and the tortillas were some of the best of Ive ever had. I had the 24 hr carnitas which was the best I've had. The flavor and texture was perfect and it was presented in a tiny la creuset dish. The salsas were very good as well (my test for any Mexican restaurant). The authenticity was refreshing. I'm definitely bringing friends back!

Disappointing drinks and even more disappointing food. The drinks were anemic and unimpressive. The food portions were small and generally overcooked (e.g., the chicken was extremely dry).

Aside from being pricey, I love everything about Copita. The decor and location are perfect. They have an extensive tequila selection. The food is delicious and fresh, i recommend the Fried Pork Belly tacos or the Tacos Ahogados (for something more filling). For dessert, the Bunuelos are addictive. The fact that everything is 100% Gluten Free is wonderful and much appreciated!!

Much improved since opening a couple years back. Guacamole is fabulous as are the fish tacos and the pulled pork dishes. Often will roast a great chicken on the open grill in the back (just ask them what they are turning). The Cadillac Margareta's are amongst the best I have had, they hit them with a decent amount of Grand Marnier float. Of course no mix here just natural lime juice with all the Margareta's. Johnny at the front has been a great recent addition to the place. Super nice guy and works the room like the expert he is. They do have several outside tables so when the weather is nice these are great for people watching and just relaxing. Can get crowded so call for reservations or try to grab a seat at the bar which is my usual move.

We've been wanting to try Copita for some time and really hoped it would live up to our expectations....as far as the food, it was good but service was not! We had to ask for small serving plates for our appetizers & every time they brought another dish they took all our utensils, so we had to ask for more! We didn't have 1 server dedicated to our table we had about 3 different servers which made it confusing. They were all over the place and kinda disorganized. Overall I enjoyed the food and cocktails but won't make the extra trip to Sausalito. -Trio Ceviche - tasty but small portions -Tamale sampler - 3 wrapped tamales with different fillings...good! -Carnitas - great flavor & served with salsas but pricey for portion size. Only got 3 tortillas & had to ask for more! -Watermelon margarita - Excellent!

I sat at the bar for a quick dinner when I was in town. Service was very friendly and food came out shockingly fast. I ordered the carnitas and a glass of sangria - both of which were bomb, and I am picky when it comes to both carnitas and sangria. I don't know that I really wanted to be watching UFC fighting while I ate, but whatever floats your boat I suppose. Everyone at the bar was in a good mood - all chatting with each other, so whether they were all locals or just super friendly I'm not sure. In any case, it lent a very communal vibe, which was nice. Prices did seem high, but when you look around, you figure that the locals can afford it.

I was hesitant to try this place because of the reviews, but I'm glad I did. I kinda think they should just offer complimentary chips and salsa (because it isn't super amazing- and c'mon who doesn't at a mexican joint??). But the overall atmosphere and great selection of tequila is great here. I've tried several things here but I recommend the pork belly tacos and the tequila with sangrita. Next time I may try the corn.

  • Sean H.

The place has the best margarita I've ever tasted -- with one major caveat. I visit Sausalito every few months, and on both this and my last visit, Copita has been closed as early as two hours before their posted closing time. No apology or explanation -- just, they felt like closing now. I think this is a more common problem on weeknights. If I were evaluating only the drinks, I would give this five stars. But since you don't know if you can actually *get* a drink during normal business hours, I have to bump it down to three. The food is decent, but I'm not sure it's worth the premium price.

Loved loved loved this place!! My husband and I are visiting from MI and decided to try this place out. In so glad we did!!! Our server was GREAT! I wish I remembered his name:-(. Copita was the perfect end to a day of exploring all that Sausalito had to offer! Our waiter, Vince, was the most accommodating guy ever. From the start of the meal, he worked the menu to make our experience exceptional. The bar was able to procure a virgin margarita for my friend...which turned out totally delicious! Vince also provided my other friends with excellent recommendations. As for our entrees, we ordered a variety of tacos: pork belly, pan seared octopus, and chicken tinga. The pork belly was crispy, but melt in your mouth goodness! The seared octopus had some heat to it and the squid ink added a little bit of the ocean briny flavor, different...but still good. We also added the ceviche trio. The trio was awesome, the seafood is acid cooked and its served with housemade tortilla chips. Yum! For desert, we wanted to try the oaxacan chocolate milkshake, but were sadly informed that it wasn't available. One of my friends is a diehard chocoholic, so we begged Vince to work chocolate into the bunuelos dish. The chef accommodated the order and served the bunuelos with some melted chocolate mixed with cinnamon, chilies, and cream. SO GOOD. We renamed it "C4" because damn it, it was a serious explosion of all things wonderful in your mouth leaving each of us speechless. We also tried the corn flan with black sesame ice cream. It was good, but it was definitely a hindsight in comparison to the bunuelos. Definitely coming back. Definitely.

Food is great. Service leaves a little to be desired. The key to keeping people happy is too put a drink in their hands first and foremost. Having patrons wait for even a hello and then even longer for a drink is unacceptable. No follow up once items were served. Bad sevice! Good food!

We came here for a bachelorette party lunch and were so happy with our experience. The food was amazing, the drinks strong and delicious, and the service was the best we had in all of San Fran. The entire menu is gluten free and they were very attentive. Love love love this restaurant!

Treating a friend to lunch while touring San Francisco and decided to take the ferry to Sausalito for lunch. She was traveling to London from Sydney, Australia and had an 11 hour layover at SFO. We were both pleased with the ambience, being close to the ferry terminal, the friendliness of the staff, and how quickly we received our order. We sat outside. Our order consisted of the pork belly taco and the tuna crudo ceviche and our beverages were the white sangria and a lime aid. The food was delicious, the portions were just right. It was a bit pricy but well worth it. I will be returning in the future.

Ok. What a very overpriced and overrated place. And is that Mexican food? not sure about that. Goto San Diego to any Mexican restaurant if you want real Mexican food. And you don't have to pay 13 dollars for two street tacos. This place really is for tourists and locals who don't know any better.

We love Copita and come here from SF for the margaritas, the ease of parking, and the carnitas. The margs here are really really good. Better than Nopalito or than the ones we make at home. The steak tacos are also noteworthy and worth a trip over the GG bridge. We had a yummy dessert last time- something small, lemony, and with graham cracker crust. Copita is a crowd pleaser, and we actually asked for a gift certificate of this place from my folks for Xmas. :) You won't be sorry. We also get great service there- I almost forgot to mention. Very thoughtful and nice to us.

I thought this place was going to be a crappy touristy place with stale food and overpriced drinks. It was a little overpriced making it not quite 5 stars, however the food is phenomenal and I would highly recommend to anyone coming into Sausalito. They're also gluten free (which I thought would hinder taste - but I was wrong) so if you have and dietary issues you needn't worry. Recommend: Caesar salad and tacos.

Came to eat mexican food for lunch on saturday. This place rocks. Came with a party of 6, they set up a table and seated us pretty quick. We shared the corn and some mixed seafood ceviche. Both were very good and went really quick. For lunch, I got the carnitas. It was excellent. My girlfriend got chicken tacos but ate them and offered my nada... she said they were good, they did in fact look good. We will be back

The food wasn't spectacular. The roast chicken was very dry. The horchatta was made with almond milk and had an unusual taste. It was also too sweet - even for my liking. I didn't like the customer service. The server came over and sternly demanded that we do not let our toddler continue to play with the fake tacky tealight on the table in case he drops it and glass ends up on the ground. I asked if she would like to take it off our table and she snatched it from my hand and snapped "yes, I would as a matter of fact". Very bizarre, especially as they served my toddler's horchatta in a tall glass, not in a plastic child's cup. Anyway, he didn't drop anything made of glass but he did drop grains of rice on the ground all around his high chair! Perhaps next time she'll want to take his dinner plate out of his reach too.

Came here for happy hour once with a few co workers and i digged the spot. Service at the bar was great. The wines, beer selections, etc was top notch and a large selection of tequila. The chips were amazing, thin and crispy, and the salsas had a nice zing to them. Not spicy enough for me though. The steak and mahi tacos were realy good but definitely over priced for the portion size. The fish ceviches also were such a treat, and this place would be a total 5 star, but i needed more bang for my buck. flavor is there but portion is lacking.

  • Haydee P.

So disappointing. Pricey for so very little that was truly not anything special. The pork belly tacos were good but could have used crema. Maybe I'd feel a little different if service had been on par for the prices charged. As it was, our server would disappear and never asked how our meal was. This seemed standard for the tables around us...except one. Apparently the table of four next to us was VIP all the way. Two chefs brought out their first round of food and one followed up to ask how everything was, practically scraping the floor as he backed away. Our shared waitress turned on the charm for them and even lowered herself to refill the water. Have no clue who these people were, nor do I care, but it really highlighted the poor service the rest of us peasants received. Side note: pretty sure I spotted the manager others have complained about, as he almost ran me over on my way to the wacky bathrooms!

Dynamite margaritas and tasty small plate Mexican. The tacos and appetizers are all awesome, but a hungry diner might find the portions on the skimpy side. Pro-tip: get the carnitas or roasted chicken and make your own tacos with the homemade tortillas...and get another margarita.

Order 3 dishes: the chips /salsa, pork belly tacos and the scallop. They brought us the guacamolleso we thought it was complementary. The bill came out with $9 guacamolle!!!! And then we had to pay for it. Food was average. Not worth a try!!!

What a pleasant surprise! I stopped in for an early brunch after hiking MtTam and was really wowed by the food and service. I absolutely loved the tacos' whole wheat tortillas. I randomly ordered the veggie tacos (I'm not a veggie), and they were AWESOME. As were the ceviches and margaritas. I can't believe how close I came to passing by this delicious meal. It will be a regular spot for me in Sausalito from now on. Fantastic.

Super tasty food that doesn't hurt the wallet! I came here from out of town during the fourth of July weekend with four others. We booked a table for dinner a couple days before online without any trouble. We specifically came here because one of us is allergic to gluten and everything on the menu is gluten-free! We had a sample of all three ceviches that came with tortilla chips, oyster tacos, seared mahi mahi tacos, and half of the wood-roasted chicken. It was just the right amount of food for us and everything tasted great and fresh. To drink, I had the 'Copita Margarita' (tequila, lime, and agave nectar), which the waitress shook and poured for me at the table. It was pretty strong and delicious! The bill came to around $85 (excluding tip), which, for five people wasn't bad at all. I would definitely come here again if I'm ever in Sausalito.

Surprised at the negative reviews... This place is pricey, but what isn't in Sausalito? I personally liked the chips and salsa. The red salsa in particular was very tasty and had a good fire-roasted flavor. Their mahi tacos are good, brunch is good, cocktails are refreshing, service has been great... I love it!

There seems to be a love-hate relationship from reviewers for this restaurant and in this case I'm on the love side. First off, service was excellent. The wait staff was prompt, courteous and friendly. We had drinks (Copita margarita and Kir Real, both very good). The manager came by twice to see how we were doing, so we weren't ignored at all like other reviews implied. We did start with chips and salsa. Yes, you get charged $4, but they are house made and are really good and you get a good bowl piled high. I had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce and it was really good, the sauce was perfect and the pickled onions on top really livened the dish up. My wife had a small open faced veggie taco which was only 1 of 2 possible veggie options and she really enjoyed it. Took a star off for the lack of veggie options (which should be easy in a Mexican place...especially one as good as this place) plus the $4 chips. Still got a solid 4 stars and we'd visit again for sure.

Attempted to have dinner there this evening. Yelp showed the restaurant as being open until 10pm; we arrived at 8:45 to find several tables of people dining but the doors locked. Finally someone came to the door, checked with the guy behind the bar, and told us they were closed. Considering Yelp and Copita's own Facebook page show them open until 10pm, and Open Table accepts their reservations until 9:30, maybe they should stick to that! Completely unimpressed and would give them no stars if it was possible.

Awesome tacos - who'd a thunk that oyster tacos would be so good?! This place is "New Mexican" and we loved it. Strange flavor combinations ended up delighting is and wishing we had ordered 4 instead of 2. Highly recommended!

Horrible experience. I called to ask when they were closing and the guy said 10pm. When my party arrived, they refused our business and they said that the restaurant closed at 9pm. I spoke to the guy on the phone in person and he said they closed at 9pm. I double checked the hours online and on yelp and both say 10pm. They refused our business because there wasn't enough business throughout the day. Their explanation made no sense, but one thing is for sure, we are never going back to this place, especially since I was given the wrong information and our business was not welcomed.

We ordered guacamole and tacos and feel robbed. The food is just okay but very expensive. Guacamole cost 8 dollars. Tacos were small and I thought the price includes at least some sides but None. The service was bad. We came at 3pm , not during rush hours. The waiter forgot our beer, didn't check on us how was the food, etc. Don't recommend to go there unless u r starving and you want the shortest line to get food immediately

Terrible service! We were charged $9 for a tiny bowl of guacamole. When we told the server we didn't want it she refused to take it back. We went ahead and ordered are food. We ordered a cheese quesadilla for my grandson and they brought out chicken tacos with sour cream. We had to sit and wait another 20 minutes for his food to come out. By that time ours were cold. Also the tacos are very tiny for $21. We will never go back

Been here twice now and I remember why I didn't remember the food the first time. The food is okay to pretty good but it's waaaay overpriced. The exorbitant prices took away from the enjoyment of the experience.

Frequent Copitas often and they never cease to amaze me! The food is always fresh and super delicious! But on this one particular visit, they went beyond my expectations! Deciding to go to Sausalito for lunch, my girlfriend and I took the ferry from San Francisco. I was craving their succulent wood-roasted chicken and was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this juicy flavorful chicken!! But to my dismay the rotisserie chicken wasn't available at the time because the cook was running late and the preparation for the chicken is about 2 hours long! The server, a young and amicable woman, don't recall her name was made aware of my displeasure- how I took the ferry from San Francisco simply to have their chicken. About 15 minutes later Gonzalo Rivera, executive chef, approached our table. He apologized and graciously offered that on my next visit the rotisserie chicken would be on the house! Not only do they provide yummy dishes but they embrace the true meaning of exceptional customer service!! No wonder I LOVE this place!!!! Oh by the way, the Oaxacan chocolate milkshake with anejo tequila is triple yummy and indulging!!!!!

I heard great things about Copita and tried it on Saturday night with some friends. While the service was lovely, the food was mediocre. My husband and I ordered the two "signature dishes" which both of our waitresses raved about. The first, the wood-roasted chicken, was flavorless and bone dry. The second, the slow cooked, 24-hour carnitas, was just ok and the portion was tiny. On top of the food, the tasty, but over-priced margaritas are way too small for the price. Don't go to Copita for great food. There are WAAAAY to many great Mexican restaurants in the bay area. I am surprised that this one has survived.

My sister and I were looking for a fun, social place to enjoy a drink and a bite when we walked passed Copita restaurant. There were two open seats at the bar! General manager Jhaun welcomed us with a smile and made us feel at home! We ended up having a few drinks and dinner. Thank you so much Jhaun and the team for your hospitality and for making our night out on the town!!! You guys rock!!! We'll be back!

Absolutely great. Shared plates with my parents and started with ceviche, chicken tingas (2), mole enchilada and 24-hour carnitas with a side of rice and more flour tortillas. Finished with a decaf French press and banuelos. Everything is considered, with the freshest ingredients. I'd love to go back. And it was wonderful of Joanne Weir to stop by the table and ask how it was. Apparently she was hosting a huge dinner night--women who love tequila! Lots of soul in the place, and in this food. I'm going to be back several times, I know it.

The restaurant decor is beautiful but little compact. Outside patio is nice, good view of the street & it is heated (I think). 4 stars I order a prickly pear (or cactus) drink, it was awful. 1 star. The food. Two stars describea the food perfectly "Meh, I've had better." The fish in the tacos was bland, and so was the taquitos. The ceviche was adequate. You can find much better food at your local taqueria, unless this is your local "taqueria" then you will have to go somewhere else. The guacamole was good, and the service was very good & quick. Bottom line the food wasn't nasty, but it wasn't great. You can find better at half the price. I would give it another shot if I went there with a group, the margarita looked good, I should have got that.

We ate at Copita a few weeks ago with friends.. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered several dishes and shared. The pork belly tacos were very good. The ceviche was also very good and fresh. The carnitas were very tasty and rivaled some of the best we have tried. The fish tacos we remade with ahi and very good but not quite what we are used to in a fish taco, but still tasty. Portions were small but very high in quality and had incredible flavor. We were pleasantly surprised at the authentic flavors.

Quite possibly the most disappointing dining experience I've had this year. Service was only mediocre. Food was extremely bland even though the entrées we selected came highly recommended by staff. Serving portions were way too small given the prices. There are plenty of better choices to spend your money on in an area like this.

I am sad to confirm that the reviews are correct, the food at this upscale Mexican restaurant is uninspired. I attended a Joanne Weir cooking class eons ago and enjoy preparing recipes from her book Tapas and Mezze. We had the guacamole & chips, a salad and carnitas. The location is killer but the food is average. Tasty but nothing special. This restaurant has a prime location, lovely outdoor patio and well appointed dining room. I am willing to try again and hope the cusine is elevated to meet the price point.

Stumbled in here with my family on a busy Wednesday night. Super friendly people that really seem to enjoy giving people a great dining experience. The tortillas were freshly made and were some of the best I've ever had. This was nothing compared to the carnitas - GOOD LORD - they were incredible. I loved it and we'll be back :)

Excellente' in every way. Try the Smokin' Gun Margarita - so good. 24 hr Carnitas are not to be missed - Mahi Mahi Tacos - delicate and yummy, add some tomatillo salsa to make them sing with flavor. Atmosphere - fun and convivial - crowded but not uncomfortable - noisy but still wonderful - been 2 times in a month.

Nice little place with a great location. Doesn't rely on location and view. Serves up some good, interesting cal-mex food at prices that are a little on the high side considering the portion size, but the ingredients are top notch and the flavors are great. We also met chef Weir who was very gracious and friendly. Will go back to get through more of the menu

Don't get to Sausalito much but I was dying to try this place and I'm glad we did. Arrived 10 minutes early for our 8pm reservation for four and were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders (Palomas- tequila, grapefruit juice, and sparkling soda). While she was getting those ready the manager came by and asked if he could help us or take our order so we wound up ordering with him (although I should note we weren't waiting that long so it seems the staff genuinely cared about making us happy). We ordered: chips & guac, classic ceviche, 2 orders of 24 hour carnitas, fish tacos, and spicy chicken tacos. Wow was everything amazing! If I had to pick one thing out of all of those it would be the carnitas. Someone even came by with extra tortillas after we had finished ours without us even asking! For desert we wound up ordering the Mexican milkshake which was also delicious and I've been thinking about it ever since. So when will i be back? Probably not for a while. I knew we were in for fancy eats and we did order apps, drinks, and desserts, but with tip our bill came out to $400. Ouch. I would definitely recommend this place as somewhere you have to try, but it unfortunately won't become a regular spot for me.

Overpriced tasteless Mexican food. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos for $13, when the tacos came out I thought a kid put it together. It came with a couple bland slices of meat with sauteed onions and bell peppers..no sauce, cheese, condiments. We also had the tortilla soup which was so salty that even my salt lover husband cannot eat. He commented to the waitress and her reply was "yeah a lot of the customers say that." Duh then relay that message to the chef..Waitresses are awful, they congregate by the bar and chit chat and not pay attention to the customers. The bus boys were much more attentive, refilling our water constantly. Had much better service at my local Taco Bell. Never again!!

We were exhausted after a long walk through San Fran and over the bridge. So the margaritas hit the spot. At $10-12 a pop, they better! Ordered a citrus salad, the guac and salsa for starter. All were small plates and very tasty. Had 2 each of the mahi and pork belly tacos. They were very flavorful, but probably only 3-4 bites each. Dessert was a churro like donut that was really light but so yummy. We loved our meal here, but after tip it was a $120 lunch. Be prepared if you are a "big eater" that you should probably stick to some of their larger entrees to get your fill. Otherwise, the service and atmosphere was lovely.

Dear Management, I consider myself a fair minded person and rarely write bad reviews, but my experience at Copita "Tequileria" was tragic and I feel there are a lot of easy wins with the right changes. 1. We had to wait 10 minutes for a bus boy to bring over some vegetables and sparkling water. The sparkling water was tepid and the glasses had no ice. How can this be? This is the U.SA.! No ice? The sparkling water tasted like poorly carbonated tap water. Why? I would pay for Pellegrino, gladly. Further, the vegetables were extremely unappetizing. 2. This same bus boy told us the "waiter would be right with us". He was wrong. And also, why couldn't this same bus boy/waiter take our drink orders? I just want a beer after 10 minutes waiting in a hot and noisy restaurant. Beyond that, why doesn't he just take our food order? You have staff there that you are not using, and all the while, we are waiting! 3. When the waitress finally came, she seemed flustered and overworked. You need more staff on Sunday nights. As a result, she did not warn us that 2 orders of fish tacos, means just two little mini tacos. I mentioned that we were in a rush due to a parking meter issue. I am not sure if something in my demeanor bothered her, but what followed in terms of food and service would suggest: yes. 4. We ordered chips and salsa which cost $4. The result was what seemed like a half order of chips and two flat plates of salsa. Both seemed to have a tablespoon of salsa. Seriously? At any tequileria, salsa is abundant. Usually you fetch your own from a large salsa bar, or there are ketchup size containers full of it. At least you usually get a large cup or bowl. I have seen photos of this on your website. So I am not sure what went wrong, but either way, MORE SALSA. I have got more salsa for free just for walking in to a terquilera. It's called hospitality! 5. I should mention I finally ordered that beer from the waitress, it never came with the chips. I was in the bathroom at the time of chip delivery so I could not ask about it. Never mind I thought. It must be coming soon. But the sad fact here, is that it never came, and it was not possible to find any staff anywhere which could help me. 6. After 15 minutes our tacos came. They were underwhelming. It looked like half a piece of mahi mahi, cut in half again to make 2 tacos. There was little in the way of salsa, salad, etc.. It was tragic. I have got free appetizers at restaurants that were more robust and appetizing. With no beer, I just asked for my bill. Photos on your website suggest the tacos are more ample, with more filling. If this is the case, please revise your quality control. I left your restaurant wondering if you had hospitality and food service as a goal or if you were some kind of scam. If it were a foreign country, I would have bargained down the bill. Basically, it seems that sometimes you really hit and get great reviews, but your quality is inconsistent. For a taco place, you are charging premium prices. You should rarely miss, improve your quality control and utilize all your staff more efficiently. Please oh please oh please. Thanks for your time and consideration.

This was our second trip to Copita and was just as good, if not better than the first time. Our first visit was for brunch. We enjoyed the Bloody Maria, Trio of ceviches (sea bass and pulpo was our favorite), divorced chilaquiles, and the kobe flank steak alambres!! We were about to leave when we saw the full menu and took home some lamb barbacoa. I'm a sucker for barbacoa, and it didn't disappoint. Service was GREAT!! Our most recent trip was on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was much busier and the service, wait time, or food quality did not suffer. The main reason for our return was the Sea Bass and Octopus Ceviche. I can't explain how yummy this is, the fresh citrus, the heat from the habenero, sweet from the orange marmalade, and the freshness and quality of the seafood is amazing. While were there we also had the pork belly tacos, YUM. Tacos Ahogados (better than my mother-in laws, shhhh). We were also treated to something that was not yet on the menu, birria tacos and a consomme with garbanzo beans. Just when I thought I might pop, dessert. Bunuelos, super light and fluffy, melt in your mouth, and a flan sauce I could licked off of the plate. Almost forgot the margaritas, BEST I'VE EVER HAD! Can't wait to return!! Executive chef Gonzalo Rivera is making great food and the front of the house is giving great service!!

Food was fine but I wouldn't be back after finding both a hair AND debris in my glass of water...! Disappointing since it's in a great location and I'm often in town on business. Had the fish tacos if I remember correctly.

This place was a huge let down. The 2 stars are for the decor and the fact that the food was somewhat edible. The service was awful. We sat for over 20 minutes for our terrible margaritas to arrive. Yes the margs were super bitter and small, but don't worry you will overpay for them. Our food took another 30-40 minutes to come out. Mind you we only ordered tacos so if have no idea what the problem was. The problem with the food was it is super small portions and my chicken tinga had maybe 2 thin shreds of chicken and the rest of the filling was tomato and sautéed onion. I was pretty pissed given how long I waited and the fact that I ordered chicken tacos, and not stewed tomato taco. My husband pulled out some if his carnitas so that I would have some protein. We decided the wait for mediocre dessert wasn't worth it so we cut our losses and left, still hungry. Good thing we know a good ice cream place to hit on the way home. My advice to this place is to make good food and drink and serve it in a timely manner. I know, what a concept!

Yummy, authentic Mexican food! Try the watermelon basil margarita. We had a large party, 5 adults and 4 kids. They seated us as quickly as possible, and made sure the kids were happy. There's no kids' menu, but they were able to make tacos & quesadillas for them anyway. The fresh guacamole was fabulous, as were the homemade tortilla chips.

I am Mexican-American so I am very picky when it comes to Mexican food. But OMG, these folks know how to make some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. I had the Ceviche Mixto with avocado and chips. The Ceviche was bright, tangy and spicy, and had the perfect blend of flavors. We also ordered the Fried Oyster Tacos, which were crispy and perfectly seasoned. The tortillas are made at the restaurant and are so tender, they melt in your mouth. For me the star was the the Mole Enchiladas. I know my mother doesn't read Yelp, so I can officially say that they were better than hers! The Chef/Owner, Ms. Joanne Weir was there that night, and made a point of greeting and talking to us. We just took my sister and her wife there today for lunch and they too, were impressed. The prices are worth it-this ain't my Mama's taqueria.

The service was unimpressive. The waitress did not remember all of our dishes and never came around to refill our waters or check in on us. She was also very difficult to flag down, even when we were trying to pay our bill. The Mexican Style Quesadillas were small, bland, and chewy. Not much flavor in either of the two different kinds. The tortilla soup was okay, but some bits were hotter than others, which made it seem as if it had been microwaved. Overall, nothing to write home about.

Had dinner last week and everything was delicious! The guacamole and chips were delivered with 2 delicious salsas and then we ordered chicken tinga, steak tacos, quesadillas. Chef Gonzalo Rivera stopped by and chatted. New bartender Justin filling in for Juan was delightful. On top of all this, tequila maker Chris was sitting next to me at the bar. He heard me order a margarita and asked if he could treat me. He works for Dolce Vida organic agave out of Austin. So Juan made my margarita with Dolce Vida tequila. Outstanding! So much so I decided to have another! Loved it!

The service was okay. Not very friendly but they were pretty accommodating and the wait wasn't too long. The starter was very refreshing: jicama and cucumber in lime, chile arbol and salt.I ordered a veggie taco. The corn tortilla was light and home made but I thought the sauce was way too spicy and overwhelmed majority of my palate. The heirloom tomatoes were probably some of the tastiest I've ever had but the "meal" itself should have been under appetizers because it was a tiny $10 dish and I was still hungry after. My friend ordered the $19 BBQ ribs with quinoa and though she enjoyed it at the time, she ended up puking later that day. She said she tasted all the sauces from our lunch so ... yeah. We shall not return. I'd recommend skipping this spot and trying another.

Great food and fabulous margaritas. Five of us had dinner here last night to celebrate a birthday. We had chips with guacamole and salsa to start, then we ordered the mahi mahi tacos, chicken tacos, 2 orders of the carne asada tacos, and the 24 hr carnitas plate. They even gave us a dessert on the house for the birthday. My favorites were the mahi mahi tacos and the carnitas. The flavors were excellent, the ingredients were very fresh, and the service was great.

Service was awesome, big thanks to Kathryn. The fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had, as good as I've had in San Diego. The snapper ceviche was unbelievable an the guacamole was outstanding. Our tour bus didn't mention this place because everyone was going to the hamburger place next door, but this place was a gem. Total Domination IPA from Oregon was on tap. Big fan of this place. Loved it.

Terrible TERRIBLE service. The bartender made us feel like we were doing something wrong by sitting at his bar having chips and drinks that we were paying for. THEN without asking (even though my girlfriend and I both had our cards on the bar ready to pay, he grabs hers and charges the entire bill to her card) - we asked him to retract that payment and to split it. . . after 30 minutes and 3 different people trying to handle the situation (i've worked in the service industry and have a LOT of experience with Micros and Aloha POS) they tell me that it can't be done. So I ask for a manager - she fixes the problem until my girlfriend gets her credit card statement -TWO CHARGES for the entire bill. Good JOB! Brain surgery is probably easier. I will NEVER go back. Just to add.. .its WAY OVER PRICED. The food is gross and the place is always messy.

Don't Bring Your Appetite The menu is segregated into small plate and large plates. I ordered the Pork Belly Tacos from the large plate section for $14. What I got was three mini-tacos that included nothing else. It did not amount to a meal in the nearest sense of imagination. So I don't understand the small portions. Does such a stingy serving really improve their profit margin that much? Do they think I will ante up and order more? This experience says to me "we dont care if you come back". Even a "pint" of beer in this place is just 14 ounces!

Mark of a good restaurant? You're planning your next visit before you leave your first! I was craving a really good margarita and remembered reading about Copita in a recent email from one of my many cooking mag subscriptions (was it Bon Appetit? Fine Cooking? Food and Wine? Maybe the Zagat email...either way, it was a good tip!) We got the chips and salsas, several margaritas, guac, and the carnitas. The margaritas were excellent! Just like I want them - tequila, lime, salt.... no yucky sweet and sour mix! They were delicious and so deceptively smooth that I didn't realize how having two had hit me until we stood up to walk the town a bit (so began a couple hours in Sausalito). The guac was some of the freshest and best I have had in a SF restaurant since moving out here a year ago. But the real star, by far, were the carnitas.... served in a tiny Le Creuset cooking pot with truly fresh and amazing house made corn tortillas as well as onions, cilantro, lime, salsa, and guac on the side. These were succulent. I overate. And I would do it again. The chips and salsa were fine, but I would prob skip them next time in favor of the guac and trying another appetizer. I will try and work my way through the menu, but not sure if I will be so tempted by the carnitas that it never goes any further... we'll see. Well worth the drive over on a sunny day to soak up some rays and people watch (more like tourist watch) from their open patio dining. Bottom line: Margaritas! Carnitas! Deliciousness!

Copita...Copita.... It's located in beautiful Sausalito, CA and they have a prime spot in downtown Sausalito with an open patio and window doors that open up so even if you are in the restaurant you can see everything. The food was good. My friend had the kobe flank steak tacos and they were quality! I had their Calirfornia Halibut Ceviche. It was a tasty blend of fresh mango, cucumber, lime juices, onion, cilantro and halibut. Our service was slow but not horrendous. I would definitely come back again.

This restaurant did well in convincing my parents that Mexican food is indeed very delicious. Now i'm glad that there can be a new genre of food we can venture out to eat as a whole besides just Italian, and asian food. The menu here is seasonal and will reflect upon regional cuisines that are ethnic and to different parts of Mexico. What I tried here today was nothing other than delicious! I loved the Cerviche that i had here. Anyplace that serves scallops in their cerviche is a winner in my book, as the acid helps "cook" up the raw seafood was tangy and zesty and such a pop of flavor with each bite. The only thing i can complain about is that not enough tortilla chips were given for dipping! The fish tacos here are adequate, decent but not the best. We had the mahi-mahi ones and they were probably the most lacking dish in flavor out of the whole meal. I understand that they were trying to preserve the natural taste of the fish but i've had better fish tacos like at a chain such as Rubios. The enchiladas on the other hand were amazing. The red sauce was sOOOO Good and the hand pulled chicken was seasoned and slow cooked to perfection. I don't think I've enjoyed an enchilada like this one in quite some time. Saving, the best for last as the 24 hour cooked carnitas. The meat was just melt in your mouth good. All the salsa and sauce that came with the warm tortilla wraps complimented the meat so well. It was definitely the highlight and nothing could mask its wonderful taste and aroma. It was the perfect meal to end a perfect day after a beautiful hike in Point Reyes and to enjoy such a quaint little town as Sausalito that helped end my day in smiles. When coming back this will definitely be a place to revisit!!!

The food is actually authentic and amazing, but the portions waaaaaay too small and hence, overpriced. The elixirs are many and varied, but driving outta there is always stressful unless, of course, you are walking home or live nearby, in which case it could be a very pleasant albeit expensive experience. Spicy margaritas are the best in Marin second to none!

Had the great opportunity to meet SARA yesterday at Copita after a friend and I kayaked on the Bay. Not only did we have an amazing lunch food-wise, but SARA was THE BEST waitress.....very attentive, considerate, making sure we were well taken care of. CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK the next time I'm in Sausalito! Thank you Sara and Copita! Such a great dining experience, thank you!

My husband and I ate here for the first time last night and really enjoyed our meal. Everything we tried was fresh, simply prepared and reasonably priced. The wines by the glass are diverse yet well edited and pair well with the food. The service was friendly and efficient. We ordered the fish tacos which came three generous tacos per serving with a spicy cabbage-cumin slaw and soft homemade tortillas. We also ordered the chips (handmade, not greasy) with salsas (both super!) and guacamole (perfect). Our dinners with two drinks came to $60 and we left plenty full. I'm completely confused by so many comments about small portions and high prices. I mean, how much do you people eat in one sitting?? No, you don't get a Mission-Size burrito but who needs that much anyways? This is not a taqueria people, it's a restaurant. I would much prefer an approachable sized portion of good quality food prepared with care than a giant plate of cheap food. The reason my review is 4 stars instead of 5 is b/c there are a few too many tables to feel comfortable anywhere in the space. We were first seated next to a LOUD group of 12 (about 6 inches away) and then moved (closely) between two groups of chatty women celebrating birthdays complete with piles of coats, bags of presents etc... Our chair backs were literally touching the chair backs behind us. If they just removed a few tables, that would help a lot. All in all, it's a fun dinner out and the food is good. The walk along the waterfront after dinner is nice too. We will be back!

Had 5:30 reservations for two on 10/6, we arrived about 10 minutes early. Greeted warmly at the door and shown right to a table. Yes, I know it was early for dinner, but Fernando thanked us for showing up a few minutes ahead of the res as it would help him later in the evening. Place was pretty busy even at the early hour. Ordered the classic ceviche. It was very good, I thought the portion size was huge for two people. Served with a large bowl of chips. I liked the jicama and cucumber placed on the table. Different and refreshing. I'm just fine with that instead of a bottomless bowl of chips that you fill up on and then can't enjoy dinner. Also had cocktails, the (1) Prado, (2) Paloma, and something that was soooo pretty pink/fuschia I had to order it. I believe the server said it had grape liquor in it?? Had the fish tacos, and the carnitas. Would order both again in a moment. Shared the chocolate shake for dessert. Just right to finish off the meal. Personally, I feel my 3 tacos were the perfect portion. The carnitas was more than enough. Our server was friendly and quick. I think the total was around $100.00 plus tip. Yes, I would consider it high for Mexican food...if this was your typical Mom/Pop place in the Mission w/ self serve counter, plastic booths, and napkin dispensers on the tables. But it is not. So we enjoyed ourselves. Will def recommend.

An impressive turn-a-round since their underwhelming beginning. The food is now superb, including the guacamole, salsas and chips.; the octopus and classic ceviche are as good as it gets. Now a solid five star restaurant - except for one serious failing: the most miserly, fastidiously measured tequila shots imaginable! Your average airport bar is much more generous. Should the front counter ever transform from a pharmacy to a cantina this otherwise high-quality joint would get much more of my biz. (It's not the money - feel free to raise the prices a few bucks - it's the principle! Don't insult your patrons with silly, parsimoniously measured pours.)

My husband and I were really excited to have Mexican food (we were really craving guacamole). Unfortunately, when we got there, there were issues about seating us and that took more than it should have... which is fine. But then our waitress was not very nice, she seemed annoyed the whole time. Also, my husband was stoked about the "Mexico City Quesadilla" because he visited once and they have AMAZING quesadillas there! When he got it, it was an empanada! What?! We were so disappointed. It wasn't even a quesadilla?! Anyways, my chicken tacos were ok. But I was really hoping our experience would be better. It's definitely not good when the best part about a restaurant is the chips they give you at the beginning!

Great way to relax and enjoy a meal on a Sunday. Great location on the strip to enjoy people watching. The food was very good for brunch. The salsas were tasty. 4 stars because the meal was on the light side.

I stumbled upon Copita on a "bike the bridge" outing and instantly knew I needed a margarita. Upon reviewing the menu I was stunned to realize that I had serendipitously found JoAnne Weir's Sausalito restaurant. I ordered the Tacos Al Pastor and the Lovely Rita (strawberry margarita - but not the slushy kind). Both were outstanding. Ordinarily that would probably have been enough for me, but I was starving having only had a latte and scone before biking San Fran - Sausalito. Besides which, I really wanted to try more! I ordered the mango margarita and the quesadillas. I have to admit, my preference was the Lovely Rita, but the mango was also very good. The quesadillas were absolutely outstanding - although unlike any quesadilla I've had before. Now it turns out that Ms Weir was sitting at a table in the back of the restaurant the whole time I was there, so before I left I swung by her table to say hello. She was so nice! She had been in the middle of an interview, but she stepped aside to chat with me - we must have talked for 15 min. For those who need to eat gluten free (I have celiac disease): the entire menu is gluten free. Ms Weir is gluten intolerant, so she knows what she is doing. Even the incredible quesadillas were made with fresh hand-made corn tortillas. And a note to those who thought the tacos were too small, they are called Street Tacos and are typical in Mexico. There were 5 or 6 of them on my plate of tacos al pastor, which was plenty.

Bustling upscale taqueria. We were seated and greeted with cucumbers and jicama is a roasted pepper dusting. Unique. Albondigas as an appetizer. Delicious. The main courses were the Kobe beef tacos and the Oaxaca enchiladas. Super authentic and tasty. Make certain you get the guacamole and chips. They are so very tasty. We were treated to banuelos for dessert. Thanks to Brian and Manuel for making our dining experience a memorable one. Slightly pricey but worth every mouthful. Thanks to Joanne Weir for her inspiration and planning. A great dining spot. We will be back. You guys do a great job. Very professional service and they love what they do.

Very creative Mexican cuisine. Beautiful mix of authentic cooking and fresh California produce and meats. Not sure you will find a better restaurant. Share as many plates as you can.

My husband and I were in sausalito for the day visiting when we encountered this restaurant. We decided we wanted to give it a try and walked. Our 1st impression was there was no hostess. We waited for a min or so then someone finally arrived and asked "table for 2". We said yes and she led us to our table. We moved tables since we didnt like were we were sat but no big deal. We sit at our new table and a few mins later comes our server Niloufar asking for drinks and we order 2 micheladas. We asked her how they were made and she very well explained how. We've never had micheladas with tequila so i asked mine on the side but it ended up tasting really good. I loved their micheladas. Id order again. I also loved the starter they serve you, cucumber with lime and chile de arbol. SOOO yummy! not made for everyone but we mexicans love our fruit and veggies with chile and lime. We then order a quesadilla from the small plates section of the menu since we didnt want anything large. Our quesadilla never arrived! our server then apologized saying the cooks might of misplaced our ticket and it never got made. At that point 3 tables that came after us had already their appetizers theyve ordered except for us. We were in a good mood had a good day so we just said to her forget the quesadilla please just bring us 1/2 a roast chicken we are going to share it. Maybe about 15 min later our chicken arrived. We had already been at the rest from the time we stepped foot inside 40 min with no food on our table until the chicken arrived. Long story short. The service was good by our server. We did appreciate she sincerely was sorry for the mistake made, and she better than the manager tried to make it better for us. We werent all disappointed with the long wait for our food to arrive but i do feel they should correct these types of mistakes for the future. Have a hostess not leave her spot for long, and the cooks and waiters check on their food to make sure their customers receive them on time. For the manager to be more attentive with customers instead of sitting around. Overall, The marinated chicken was great, the tortillas were made by hand, the guac was awesome by hand too, and the habanero salsa (we asked for) was also great. Id recommend the chicken and this place to eat and drink. We are mexicans and we know we arent in mexico so we understand food is not always going to taste authentic but we appreciate good food when we taste it. This is why we give copita 4 stars not for their service which they can pick up a bit but for the items we consumed. Our recommendation to copita is pick up on their customer service since the manager not once stopped by our table or any other table to make sure all was great. He just sat by the hostess place and talked to servers and hostess instead of walking around making sure all food was going out and everything was going smoothly. When one of our neighboring tables asked their server for the manager she went to get him from his sitting spot by the hostess/bar he then seemed worried when he should of walked around the rest making sure customers were ok. This is just our point of view.

This place is expensive but what isn't in Sausalito? I definitely feel like they didn't like us since we were in our 20's and early 30's and apparently "too young" to be at such a place. However, the cocktails were tasty, the soup was nice on a cold nice, the octopus was delicious, the steak tacos were good and the 24hr braised carnitas was good. The portions were small, I thought all the small plates were in the section "small plates" but that didn't seem to be the case as the tacos were street tacos ($5-6 each.... yes, for a fucking street taco) and the carnitas was tiny. A good plate for a bite as long as you're not a hungry hungry hippo like my boyfriend and I normally are. VERY slow service. One bathroom is regular sized, one is the size of an airplane bathroom. Both share one small sink that is tucked next to a bunch of chairs and high chairs. They're lucky the food tasted good.

As good as it gets... I came to Sausalito on business three weeks ago for a week, and I'm back for a second week. Copita has been amazing in every sense of the word. The staff, led by manager Jhaun, has been the most welcoming and engaging group of people I have encountered in quite some time. The restaurant itself is inviting and smiles abound. It goes without saying that the food is fantastic. While I have enjoyed just about everything on the menu, the carne asada tacos are out of this world. The papas bravas are perfect for starters. Executive Chef Gonzalo Rivera's passion shines through...and he just happens to be a really cool guy who truly enjoys meeting his guests. Lastly, the margaritas. There are no words to accurately describe the quality and slice of heaven that these drinks represent. Juan Carlos and Jesse behind the bar are masters at what they do. Not only do they add more texture to the Copita experience, but I have never had the pleasure of tasting such perfectly crafted drinks. I am a huge fan of the spicy margarita and the Corazon Espinado. You just can't go wrong with any drink on that menu. This review is stellar because it is warranted in every sense: the entire dining experience, along with crossing paths with people who love what they do. Copita is spot on. Go see for yourself.

Poor service. We arrived at approximately 945 pm on a Saturday night and they told us the kitchen was closed. Many peeps still in the place. Posted hours open 'til 11. When I complained they said they could accommodate as long as we didn't order most things on the menu. Normally I would've told 'em to fly a kite but Sausalito restaurants close up early. We didn't have much of a choice. We ended up ordering the chicken tacos . Once we got back to our room we noticed our order was missing the chips and salsa. The tacos were ok. We will not be going back!

If it's lunch, and you are a free-thinking human being, there is no way you should pass this place up. We were recommended to come here from our tour guide, and after Yelp'ing the shit out of everything else on our trip, we potentially would have skipped this place (too few reviews, not enough stars). GO! The food was some of the BEST we had in all of San Francisco, and that's no easy feat. The hitlist: 1. Margaritas -- AMAZING. Mojito margarita? Can't remember. It was that good. Get it salted, and unless you're driving or need to remain balanced on a bicycle, drink fast. My mouth waters for another. 2. Guacamole -- another MUST. (If you come here, and you don't order the guacamole, it's sacrilegious in some biblical text somewhere. Trust me). I've never tasted a more perfectly salted smoosh of avocado anywhere. And the addictive tortilla chips is like a romantic marriage. I weep tears of joy just thinking about it. 3. The Ceviche -- this was just so perfectly salted, vinegared, spicy!, and bold in flavor I ended up shamelessly drinking the residual juice at the bottom of the bowl when we finished the last bites of seafood. There must be pieces of fleshy halibut in there, but the fish was just deliciously seasoned. Repeat: I drank the ceviche juice. Who does that? It was OUTSTANDING. Truly. So, so good. 4. Carnitas -- these are small, but if you've had the other items, there's no reason to not be satisfied. The pulled pork was very tasty, and while you only get three tortillas, if you stuff those puppies full and really savor the tastes, it's exactly perfect. The place was exceptionally busy the day we came but we magically got seated ASAP right on the patio. If it's a nice day, and it's the afternoon, don't settle for an inside table. Wait for the patio, saddle up with a margarita, sip, watch, eat, and smile. We had a 12-day trip through all of California... translation, a lot of very expensive, very enjoyable meals. And of the 36 or so times we ate (at very good, very $$$ restaurants), Copita stood out as one of the most amazing meals of all. Not to be missed if you're in Sausalito.

I'm a sucker for even the basic street taco but this place goes above and beyond the standard taco. I really wish we had some place like this local in the South Bay but if you are in Sausalito I highly recommend stopping here for some delicious tacos and outstanding margaritas. They defininetly know their tequila! For starters their ceviche was spectacular, nice and fresh! My husband went out in a limb and tried their goat tacos and they were finger licking good! I actually ordered the potato tacos but my order got mixed up and I ended up with the carnitas and boy am I glad I did! Such amazing flavor! We both wanted to go back our second day in Sausalito but we knew we had to have crab at least once. I can't wait to go back to this place! YUMMMM

Wonderful high end mexican food restaurant just a few short blocks from where the ferry from SF drops you off. Excellent margaritas as well. Had the flat iron steak tacos and chips with guac both were thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely recommend this place to stop in for a drink or for food while in Sausalito

Short story: Lots of tequila, good food, small portions, high prices, no explanation or knowledge of the spirits from the servers. Long story: I was so excited to see that a restaurant with such a wonderful selection of tequilas. I'm a huge fan and have a big collection. I wanted to try something new, but the shots are $12-20 for cheap stuff you can buy at any liquor store. Tres Agaves is one of the least expensive brands and it's being sold as a top shelf tequila. $12 a shot, $14 a margarita? Insane! Markups are expected but not this high.

I really enjoyed my meal at Copita. Three of us who live locally (Mill Valley & San Anselmo) had dinner here Monday night. One of us had been there before and two of us were first-timers. (It was my first time.) We shared chips, 2 salsas, guacamole, papas bravas, fish tacos, the 24 hour carnitas, and for dessert buñuelos. Complimentary jicama and cucumber spears with chile arbol were served as soon as we sat down. It was the perfect amount of food for 3 people. Two of us had the house maragritas (2 each) and one had a glass of red wine. The margaritas were great and it's always a good sign that you're not getting gypped when you can actually taste the tequila. My favorite of all the above? The 24 hour carnitas! You get a hearty serving of niman ranch pork in a Le Creuset cocotte, tortillas, chopped cilantro & red onions, tomatillo salsa, and guacamole. I could eat this everyday. But I probably shouldn't. Yes, this place is pricy. But what place in SF & Marin that serves good, quality food isn't? Total with tip was $50 each. We probably could have saved a few bucks by not ordering the extra guacamole or the buñuelos for dessert or a 2nd margarita... But what the heck. Live a little, people. I will be going back and recommending to my friends. PS: I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because it is a bit expensive. I'd like to eat here more often, but at $40-$50 a pop per person, I find it hard to justify going here over other really good restaurants in Marin. And yeah, I'm kinda contradicting what I said above, but I have to be honest and therefore... 4 stars.

The service is absolutely amazing. I had a great, bald headed bartender. He is incredibly attentive and friendly. There was also a female bartender helping me out also; she is a sweetheart. He has great knowledge about his tequila. Make sure you get the house margarita. This place has the best well tequila I've ever had: Herradura. I mean really, what place has Herradura as their well tequila? It's only $10. If I could give this place 3.5 stars, I would. But I can't. Duh. The reason I say this: $14 tacos? You're kidding. I think in Mexico they sell tacos for like 50 cents. It takes a normal dude $30 to get full at this place. But the food was freakin' delicisio, though. But not worth $14. It took less than 10 minutes to get my food out. I stumbled on this place after I hopped off the ferry. If you're reading this, give this place a try, just be prepared to drop some "dough for show" if you know what I mean. Peace out girl scouts. Dueces!

This place sucks! I went in by myself at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. No one was at the front so a panicked bus boy desperately tried to steer me to the bar even though there were empty tables. I took a bar stool with a couple on my right and 2 recently vacated seats on my left. At least I assumed the seats were recently vacated because their dirty smudged glasses were still on the bar. There was a total of 5-6 people at the bar, not an overwhelming amount of folks. The female bartender (later was told her name is Ashley) came over after I had been there about 5 minutes. She cleared the dirty glasses next to me and shot one of the used paper coasters in my direction. I thought it was a mistake and that the paper coaster had simply gotten away from her as she was clearing the dirty glasses. I don't think I've ever been given someone else's used drink coaster. So I passed it back to her. I guess this pissed her off because she shot it forcefully back at me and with clenched teeth said, 'that's yours!" So now I had 2 problems a dirty coaster (gross!) and a nasty bartender. She went on to other bar patrons and she didn't come back to me for at least 10 minutes, no drinks, no menu, no eye contact, even though she was right in front of me. When she did come back, without speaking to me, she shoved a drink menu toward me. She didn't greet me, she didn't ask what kind of a menu I would like, she didn't ask if I had come in for food or drink. She wasn't welcoming, friendly, or jovial, like a bartender should be. She was a hard-ass, in your face, take no prisoners, kinda gal. Pretty unusual for a high priced, high profile, restaurant in Sausalito. Since I had come in for lunch, I wanted a food menu which she didn't provide. And she had once more departed so I had to flag her down. She again seemed pissed but did give me the food menu, no comments, just a dirty look. She was gone again so I had plenty of time to look over the lunch menu. She never came back to take my order even though she was in plain sight behind the bar. I waited another 10 minutes and then realized I had been there for 25 minutes all together without any service, just a dirty coaster, and I hadn't even ordered. I have never walked out of restaurant but seriously didn't want to spend my money there. What the hell does Joann Weir think is going on in her restaurant. So many other Yelp reviews are voicing similar complaints.

I sought out Joanne Weir's restaurant for my birthday lunch with the family. It did not disappoint! We ordered the chips and two seasonal salsas, traditional ceviche, three types of tacos for the adults, a cheese quesadilla and heirloom tomato salad for my daughters. Even the kids quesadilla was beautifully presented; nicely grilled accompanied by three dipping sauces. Our favorites though were the mint salsa cruda that came with our chips, and the pork belly tacos. The pork belly melts in your mouth-- outstanding. I'm surprised by any strongly negative reviews on this place, particularly those that complain about the pricing. I found it to be reasonable and what you'd expect for Sausalito. This is not your basic taquería. We had good service as well. As a side note, I was excited to see Joanne Weir at the restaurant. As a follower of her recipes for years, she is a true rock star in my book!

Sunday night, when the holidays are over... where to go for dinner? We were walking around Sausalito and Copita was the only place that looked alive so we decided to give it a try. The service was very attentive, we had to wait a bit for ordering but enough for making our minds on what to order. The complementary appetizer that day was cucumber and jicama with pepper flakes and lime... so refreshing! Really good and light, perfect for the nachos and the guacamole we ordered first. Then we tried four varieties of tacos. The fried oysters and the fish tacos were good, but the steak tacos were the best! Very tender and moist, plus good mayo sauce. Less good was the octopus taco that came with an extremely spicy sauce that made difficult to even taste the octopuss. Overall food was good and our server was nice and attentive. As I said at the beginning, for a Sunday night the cozy ambience, food and service of this restaurant were very good and the perfect spot to end our holidays with friends.

So the food was not that great, it was ok but the service was probably the worst service I have ever received. To start off we requested our table to be in the middle of the restaurant and the host put us way in the back basically connected to the bathroom and during our whole stay there was open tables where we wanted to sit and even when we left. Then our waitress was not welcoming at all, she gave attitude the whole time and made it seem like an obligation as we ordered food. She never even checked on us once to see how the food was or if we needed anything but what upset me most was she checked on the table right next to us twice during our stay.

We came here because of Check Please and thought, what the hey, we'll give it a shot for date night. The food is pretty spicy, so be prepared. Everything we ordered, had quite the kick, even the michelada. The food itself was great, we ordered a few tacos and shared an entree and dessert, enjoyed it all. Would we make the trip out to Sausalito to go again? Most likely not, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who was going to be in the area. I didn't have any issues with the service at all.

Great food and even better service. The tortillas are made on site, the chicken is spit roasted on an open fire. The result is fresh and wonderful. We has an unfortunate beverage spill and the staff could not have been more gracious. Visiting for several days--this is our favorite Sausalito restuarant!

The food was all right but totally overpriced. $4 for a cup of coffee, and $6 if you want it with cream. Nice. They completely screwed up my order and gave me beef enchiladas instead of the brunch enchiladas I asked for. I wasn't too upset until I looked and saw the girl next to me received brunch enchiladas, and then my bill came for beef enchiladas cost way more. I couldn't even bring it up to the waitress because she really seemed to just have half a brain, and besides, I'd already almost finished my meal.

Definitely a place I will go back to. Everyone was friendly! The food was amazing. I am usually very critical about Mexican food since I am Mexican and no restaurant beats grandmother's homemade recipes. They actually have yellow corn tortillas, which is rare to find. I had the carnitas and the tamales and loved it. The margaritas were pretty good too, considering that I am not a big fan of any silver tequila. It's a small nice restaurant; a place you may want to take a date, the parentals, or go alone and enjoy the bar, like it did.

Best meal that I had on my recent trip to San Francisco/Napa. My husband and I split an order of chips and salsa and the chicken tinga tacos. Both were great, but the Copita margarita was even better! We also found out that the entire menu here is gluten free, which is great news for those who have a gluten allergy. Overall, we were really happy with our choice!

The food here is so amazing! The pork belly tacos are a must! Also the 24 hour carnitas were fabulous and can easily feed 2 people. Everardo was our server and he was so attentive! Made sure water was refilled, brought as many tortillas as we needed, kept our chips and salsa full, and the other staff was very nice and helpful too. Very refined flavors and great open atmosphere. Everardo our waiter and this restaurant totally rock!

Check Please reviewed this restaurant and we decided to try. The good: Food quality is very high and the combination of the taco dishes were delicious. The bad: Food presentation is minimal, the prices are a bit high, but the food quality supports the prices, service was terrible. The hostess greeted us properly. We were seated and a person came to fill water glasses after 5 minutes. Still no waiter. Finally a waiter appears, takes drink orders, and comes back 5 minutes later. The restaurant was not busy nor was the bartender. We asked for the ceviche trio. Was told one was not available so they could not provide the trio. It was 1pm in the afternoon. Asked for the carnitas main dish. Was told they were out of carnitas. That was at 145pm. Upon leaving the same waitress told the table next to us the flank steak tacos were not available, the carnitas main dish was. Something is not right. Overall, the food is good, but the service, especially, when it was very slow and the availability of dishes is not acceptable.

Kristopher with a K ---- Best man server in the universe! I went to Copita expecting delicious Mexican food ---- and they certainly delivered. But... I found something else at Copita --- something unexpected --- I found a gorgeous man server. A gorgeous man server that gave me and my date the best service EVER! He was the kind of server I had only dreamed of previously. He was knowledgable, attentive, funny, charismatic... He was everything! I would start a sentence --- and he would finish it. But not like he just read my mind - he would read my mind and then finish my thoughts more eloquently than I ever could. When he walked over to our table --- he glowed like an angel. Like an angel from up above! He described items on the menu with such clarity that I would find myself drooling. He picked the perfect words to describe each item - I had a perfect visual in my head before the items even reached my table. And on top of that... he was just the perfect male specimen. Muscles resting on Dreamy Clouds of Man meat ---- I don't know which I enjoyed more - the gorgeous man server sent down from heaven or the delicious meal. Both were... OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING.

For a third of the price you can get almost exactly the same thing at Joe's Taco Lounge in Mill Valley. I had to get a second dinner later in the evening after eating here. With their prices and a second dinner it made for an expensive evening.

overpriced. 1 ceviche appetizer, 2 taco plates, 1 coffee, and waters cost nearly $60 after tip. The first two bites of my chicken taco had some kind of inedible gristle I had to yank out of my mouth which really turned me off. Server was nice, patio seating was pleasant but way too expensive for such a *meh* experience. Oh, and we were charged for the side of hot sauce so, yea, I won't be back.

I was SO excited when Copita opened because a) I love tequila and b) the main drag of Bridgeway was seriously lacking in the quality Mexcan food department! I went on a Friday night in the summer with a couple people and even with no reservation and the jazz fest going on across the street, there was hardly any wait and the waitresses didn't even groan when we added more people to our party halfway through the meal. We tried a lot of different items on the menu, all delicious. It was a battle not to fill up chips and guac, but I don't think anything could have stopped me from devouring my fish tacos. Ohhhhh, the drink menu. My jaw dropped when I saw some of the concoctions they had dreamed up. The house margaritas were pretty standard. I also had a Surly Temple, a tequila variation of my beloved Dirty Shirley (vodka + Shirley Temple), but not as sweet, and a Oaxacan milkshake. And then i was tipsy on cloud nine. Yes, it is expensive, but hello!!? It's Sausalito...you're paying for the ambiance and Copita has that down to a science. Even the dang bathrooms will make you go woah!

We eat here at least once per week. The menu is entirely gluten free; no substitutions required. When can you say that about Mexican cuisine? Their rotisserie chicken is the best I've ever tasted. Wonderful house made chips, and the house margarita is just right. The service can be spotty when it's busy, but if you know that going in and are OK with some people watching on the bridgeway you should have a great time!

Met my dear friends at this place to celebrate birthdays last Sunday. Afraid we were VERY disappointed. We were greeted "Are you almost done with those drinks." Several of our group had coffees and you would have thought we had the plague. Once we were seated, it took them FOREVER to take our order. When our food finally came, the tacos most of us ordered were TINY and if this wasn't already enough, our friend who ordered chicken tacos literally had a quarter-sized amount of chicken in each taco. Yes, we sent them back. We had to almost beg for a second round of drinks. The real shame is that the food and drinks were good, location awsome, but the service was RIDICULOUSLY BAD. I live in a resort town so I am not buying any of that either.

We're local, Sausalians, and really excited to try out the new Copita. It was great! The margaritas were exceptional. Our server was well informed of the menu, and took us on a tasting experience. We weren't sure what to expect, but should have know good things would come from the owners of Poggio. We'll definitely be back. Great place for a group or a date this side of the bridge.

the food is good - my favorite is the fried pork belly tacos. the margaritas are great esp when juan carlos is behind the bar & the wait staff is always super friendly.

I'm pulling a Bauer - i.e. I've dined at Copita 3x before writing my review. Instead of pontificating about the noise level - didn't notice if there was noise the doors were all open and the buzz of passersby was pleasant and I could hear all of my conversations. I will echo Dick B.'s comments that this is not a local taqueria - this is a real restaurant - no burritos! But if you want amazing guacamole and roasted tomatillo and tomato salsas with delicious margaritas (or even non-alcoholic limeade and jaimaca agua frescas) after your free jicama/cucumber sticks with chile limon it will be an excellent start to your experience. Like I said, I've eaten there three times now so I can offer this advice on ordering - salads are amazing (Joanne Weir's influence is here and she makes amazing salads), the coctel mixto is bright and fresh and you can taste each piece of seafood. I like cheesy goodness and the Mexico city quesadillas deliver. I'm a fan of tacos but I would order the most unique and different ones you see on the menu that day. The carnitas are great (don't share) and you might get addicted to the homemade tortillas made by sous chef Dilsa of La Cocina fame. DO NOT miss dessert. Yesterday we had the Oaxacan chocolate milkshake and the biscochito cookie that had a nice hit of ancho chile - I showed restraint not eating the rest of my friend's cookie. I live in the city and don't like crossing bridges but I seriously feel transported and relaxed enjoying the fresh air and fun crowds at Copita. Three times a charm and charming was also our server Antonio. Joanne Weir is pretty cool too.

Okay, this restaurant has it all! Not only is it delicious and festive, but the service is stellar. I have been there about three times now, and it keeps getting better and better. I try to order something new each time, and I have never been disappointed. I can't recommend this place enough. The quality of the food is unmatched with fresh ingredients that taste healthy and delicious. The staff is friendly, courteous and knowledgeable, and they treat their customers like they are the most important people who have ever walked in the door. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation!

I live in Sausalito, and have eaten here 4-5 times now. The first thing prospective customers need to understand is that this is not meant to be a replacement for the average, inexpensive Mexican restaurant that we're all used to. It's more expensive for sure, and should be considered a nice evening out. With enough drinks to satiate my thirst and enough food to call a meal, I tend to spend around $100 here for two people, including tip. Don't expect free chips/salsa, beans and rice to fill you up. Not here. You pay for everything, but with the implicit understanding that it'll all be really good. It's the "small plates" concept so popular in San Francisco, applied to Mexican food. (Personally, I translate "small plates" to "more expensive," and "quality focused") Now that the disclaimer's out of the way, I like the food. A lot. I just had dinner at the bar again Friday night. Corn soup and salad were really excellent. The organic, fresh vegetables really found their voice. The salad leaves were dry, not wet from lazy preparation, and dressed lightly -- just perfectly. Mexico City-Style quesadillas were all still excellent (I've had them several times), but it did seem to me that they held a bit less meat than past visits. I'll be watching for this issue when visiting again. I have had the house ceviche in the past, and thought it excellent. Guacamole, same. Trying unsuccessfully to recall the other dishes I've had, but thought that the quality was high in general. Margaritas are all scratch made from freshly squeezed lime juice, no cheaters using a mix here. Great selection of tequilas, like Tommy's in San Francisco.

5 of us had dinner here last night. 3 adults and 2 children ages 12 and 8. The kids had the grilled chicken special - they rank it in their worldwide top 3 chicken dishes. Adults had the fish tacos - perfectly seasoned and the carne asada. All were absolutely fantastic. I almost hate to give them 5 stars as a reservation will be harder and harder to get. The service was timely, personable and efficient. We had Repasado margaritas made at the table - delicious. Their chips are fantastic - not greasy and very wholesome. The decor is 100% authentic Mexican. They absolutely deserve 5 stars for food, atmosphere and service. It is hard to get excited about Mexican food in Marin County, but this restaurant absolutely deserves your attention and a visit.

The food was outstanding! A drink, chips, salsa and guac and two entrees (fish tacos and carnitas) all for $60. Very reasonable given the quality, quantity and location. We loved everything we ate. As others have noted: the tomatillo and avo crudo was really different and good. I found the chips to be a little too rustic for me to love, but they definitely were tasty and good. We liked the fact that our server told us the tacos come in three's but for a few more dollars they would throw on a fourth. Very nice that they were thinking ahead and offering to accommodate patrons. The not so great.... we got there about 6 PM on a Saturday night and it was busy but not packed. We sat inside and while it was warm it was not unbearable. The oven definitely warmed it up and compounded the warmth of the evening. By the time we were ready to leave (a little over an hour later) it was so warm I was beginning to feel claustrophobic and sick. So was my friend. There were so many people in the place by that time it was actually really uncomfortable. The noise level got to the point of downright annoying. With all the hard surfaces and high ceiling it got to the point where we couldn't effectively talk across the table and I misunderstood what our server asked us. The increasingly crappy ambience pretty much put the cabash on our otherwise very enjoyable meal. If management reads this - my suggestion is hire an accoustical engineer who can provide advice on how to create noise dampening decor (like cloth hung from or on the walls and ceiling, or sound absorbing boards strategically situated). Honestly, not sure I will be rushing back anytime soon. Which is disappointing as I really enjoyed the food and felt that it was a terrific value. If I do go back, I will be sure to ask for an outside table or one as far away from the oven as possible.

Food sounds better (on the menu) than it tastes. Tacos are $10 each making them over-priced. They are $7 tacos at best. They make you order a min of 2 so what you get is major disappointment when the check comes.

The BEST ceviche and margaritas in the Bay!!! I go here at least a few times a month and I have never been disappointed. I love sitting at the bar and chatting it up with the bartenders--super friendly and knowledgeable.

I've been waiting to try out Copita for a while since I LOVE Poggio and the Sausalito vibe. I am so incredibly disappointed, i don't think i've had a worse meal. The food was mediocre, not bad, just that I could have eaten a better, cheaper meal at a million other restaurants. The menu was surprisingly minimal. What I would consider a staple (guacamole), they couldn't even serve us for the hour long dinner we had, because the kitchen was making it and didn't finish until after we were gone. And the service, i feel like we had a server that had never waited on tables before! I'm so surprised. I'm an easy going diner, and honestly would have let some things slide just because of the location. But i just left borderline angry with my experience. I hope it gets better, the actual restaurant is beautiful and has potential.

I'm Mexican...and this is no where near Mexican food. First...service was meh and I ordered a brunch plate and it was not prepared the way I imagined a Mexican dish to be. So I asked if they could change my meal and I was told " the chef is to busy and it would be too much work for him" lol seriously? So I was forced to eat it. Second- way over priced. Period. Third- the only good thing was the tiny portions of ceviche we tasted. Fourth- I've never been to a Mexican restaurant/ tapas that charge for chips and salsa. Tourist trap.

I ate dinner here with my family yesterday (Sunday evening) and we all had a great time. We sat at the long wooden table that separates the inside from the outside and the windows to the outside were opened completely. The restaurant was packed but the first thing I noticed is that we weren't overwhelmed by the sound of the crowd. It was 5/6 so I'm sure the staff was exhausted from Cinco de Mayo. However, our sweet waitress was really on top of it. The menu is not long, but packed with really interesting, flavorful dishes. We started with just chips and guacamole- both amazing. However, I noticed mango salsa coming out of the kitchen later in the night and wished I'd ordered that too. Most of us had the margaritas. I don't know my tequilas so I actually just ordered the house marg and it was divine. I should let you know that I don't eat fish, so I can't remark on any of the ceviche or fish tacos. I recommend not trying to order an app and main just for yourself. The menu is really more full of sharing dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed the Copita chopped salad (dressing was super light and perfectly flavored), the trio of tamalitos and the mexico city style quesadillas. Holy smokes those are good. A few things this restaurant may not be right for- and this is to address an earlier review: a reservation for 12. This is a great restaurant for a date, or a party of 4-6, but it honestly might not be perfect for a huge resy. Its small, intimate and really great though. Its a perfect restaurant for a summer evening and I look forward to returning with friends in the coming weeks!

First time to Copita but not the last! 24 hour carnitas, BEST house made corn tortillas that i've had and i've been to the best and the worst. The portion sizes are the right amount. Table side margaritas are a nice touch, not the best but drinkable. Tomatillo salsa is a must. Oh what isn't to love about mexican spiced chickens being roasted behind you?!?! If you're looking for a top knotch contemporary mexican cuisine, please drop by.

Decent, but not great. Went there for lunch on a beautiful day. That was the best part - gorgeous weather in Sausalito. I had the Kobe Beef flank steak tacos. They were fine. Nothing outstanding. The chips are not complimentary, which irked me. Raise the prices on the other stuff a bit and give us the chips for free, it's a Mexican restaurant for chris-sake! It's an ok option for food but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. If i was in the area and needed to eat, for sure...

Copita is one of my new favorite restaurants to go to when I visit the Bay Area. The setting cannot be beat, and the food is absolutely delicious. If you enjoy Mexican dishes done properly, Copita is the place for you. It is not your regular corner taco shop, nor is that what you should expect when going to Copita. Eating at Copita is for people looking for a certain dining experience, like spending a beautiful night in Mexico City! The cocktails are perfectly assembled, and not too much of that overly sugary sweetness that so many restaurants screw up when making margaritas. A must-have dish is the 24-hour carnitas. BETTER THAN BACON! Go to Copita and you will not be underwhelmed. In the very least you will enjoy a fun atmosphere and friendly servers!

Could be five stars for the food alone. Erratic but friendly service makes it four. The prices also seem steep for the portions you get, but after the first bite you understand why the high tariff. Amazing quality and skill of preparation. Ceviche made to simple perfection, fish and beef flank tacos that melt in your mouth. Coconut flan and a Mexican chocolate milkshake that will blow your mind. And did I mention some of the best margaritas I've ever been served? But service is an issue. Slow and apparently a bit confused. Appetizer came out after main course and drinks cleared before finished (as if they needed the table on what was obviously a half busy night). Apologies were offered and a dessert covered gratis, so little harm done, but they could use some fine tuning with wait staff training. Wouldn't hesitate to return for the food alone. Too bad it's a fair trek for us.

Our waitress treated us to jicama and cucumber spears that had been dressed with lime juice and chile. Fun, healthy unique (instead of the trite chips and salsa). Mahi Mahi tacos with pepitas were wonderful tasting, beautifully presented. Enchiladas has a well seasoned red sauce. Service was friendly, attentive. Ambience was typical for a seaside tourist town--open to the outdoors.

Went for lunch on Monday and had a pretty good experience. The hostess wasn't very friendly, but seated us quickly. We started with the chips and guac, which was recommended by the waiter. I've gotta say, that I was pretty disappointed with the guacamole. It was very smooth and bland. I prefer more chunks of avocados and a bit more spice. For lunch, I had the carnitas, which was AMAZING, and my bfriend had the fish tacos, which were also very yummy. We also shared an order of the ceviche, which was good but really spicy so beware. Our waiter was nice and provided good service. Overall it was a lovely lunch and a great addition to Sausalito!

This place WAS my favorite restaurant in Marin. The wait staff was great, and the chefs were great when it came to requests to adjust something for a vegetarian. I have been there more than a half dozen times in recent months and have taken all of my friends and family. Unfortunately, the last two experiences have been such that I don't think I will be going back and I am greatly disappointed. I noticed some changes to the quality of food when I went in June, but did not think too much of it. However, I took some friends from out of town last Saturday (8/3) and it was a disastrous experience. Our waiter (Manuel M) was rude and slow to serve our table. When asked if an appetizer could be made vegetarian, as had been done every time I had been there, he quickly cut us off, and told us that everything was now frozen and pre-made, and the chef would no longer do this. When asked if he could at least ask the chef, he quickly replied no. This was frustrating, given that every other time, we had asked, knowing that the chef might not- and every time we had excellent wait staff who asked on our behalf and everything worked out. My sister noticed that the food has changed as well and the taste is not quite the same quality. To top it off, our food was served extremely late (after the folks who were seated after us), the quality was not good (cold, less fresh), and we had a rude waiter with a bad attitude. It was an all around unpleasant experience. The owners used to come around and greet everyone, and this also did not happen. I am not sure if they were out of town and the staff were just slacking off. I was left with guests wondering what I could have possibly enjoyed about this restaurant and they barely touched their plates. I guess the word here is to be careful. You could go in and have a great experience, or have a terrible one. For now, I am taking a break as I am not willing to pay for another meal like the last one I had at Copitas. They can also be sure that I am not bringing them any more business.

This place is an over hyped, way too expensive tourist trap. I wonder how long it will continue to exist? We are long time Marin residents . We eat out often. We finally decided to try this place, what a waste of a meal! We went for a Sunday night dinner with reservations. We got seated by the bathroom , between two large tables. Yuck, but there didn't appear to be other options. Our waiter was slow to take our orders, we ordered two double house margaritas , also the ceviche trio. We were feeling uneasy about ordering more food given the really nasty seats we had. Our drinks came with the waiter shaking them into glasses. Then he left and threw the unpoured drinks away. They turned out to be $19 each! Our ceviche was a very mixed bag. The ahi was just ok, mahi was better, the lobster mix was just plain bad. We opted to leave and rescue our night down the street at Poggio. This place is really a "wank". Tourists and locals beware, you can do SO much better almost anywhere!

WOW - what a bunch of frustrated mob mentality haters!! very disappointing. especially in the first few days of a soft opening. jeez! I've been anticipating the opening of this place. i LOVE the joanne weir show! even though i'm not a huge fan of mexican food but appreciate deelicious food i found the food completely blew way past my expectations. The carnitas was sooo out-of-this world...carmelized tender melt in your mouth euphoria. the ceviche was tender spicy lemony hallucinating to the senses. great guacamole. phenomenal margaritas! staff was welcoming delightful warm . can't wait to get back and see what new dishes they add to the menu as they grow and mature!

Yes it's a bit overpriced. But that's true of most restaurants in the area. Not a fan of having to pay for your chips and salsa though. Food was pretty good. We ordered the chicken and it was tasty and not too dry. The tacos were standard, nothing memorable. Good place to check out but I don't know if I would come again. I would probably check out the other restaurants nearby next time. I do love the trendy decor however!

I'm writing this review in hopes of sparing you from ever eating at Copita. I cannot believe that this restaurant even has a single positive review. We were seated after a few minute wait for a patio table. The service was very slow. Upon ordering chips (which were not complementary and TERRIBLE) and guac to start with, both my mom and I agree that the guac was very bland and tasted like paste. The chips were just disgusting. I had a feeling it was all downhill from there. You can always tell a good Mexican restaurant from their chips and guacamole. Next arrived the Halibut Ceviche- which to our surprise- was cold, soggy, lime-juice drenched fish-yuck, so we sent that back. After waiting a long while our steak tacos arrived. For $13 we were shocked how small the tacos were. They were literally filled with more cabbage than meat. What a rip off! My Copita Magarita was just OK. The drink was poured at our table, and only filled 3/4 of the glass. The staff was not friendly, except for one woman who bussed the tables. I will not return to this restaurant. If you don't mind driving across the bridge, I highly recommend Tacolicious or Mamacita in the Marina. This place is a wannabe Tacolicious. At Tacolicious, you can get four tacos to split for $12. They are out of this world. Unlike the taco's at this place. This restaurant gives Mexican food a bad name. My advice is don't walk from Copita, run!

Just don't go there! We ordered a large plate each with 3 super mini tacos in each. We ended up with a $100 bill, hungry and very upset!!!! Unless you are on a diet... Can't believe the plate is for $16 and the amount of food is so little in a plate considered to be LARGE!!!!!!!! Should be asking for a refund!

Just had a wonderful lunch at Copita. I am a 40-year Sausalito resident and am absolutely thrilled to have this as a new option for lunch or dinner. A friend and I went and began with a delicious guacamole and chips. We also had a crispy salad with the most incredible Mexican dressing/vinagrette. A combination of tequilla; lime; orange juice; agave nectar and orange zest. We sat inside because it is a rainy dayn but it will be wonderful to sit outside on a sunny day. I also loved watching the action in the beautiful big open tiled oven. Looked like they were doing amazing things with chicken there! This is a great addition to Sausalito. Larry Mindel, the creator of Copita, also started Poggio, the lauded Italian restaurant just a bit further north on Bridgeway. He has a magic touch and has really amped up the quality of food available in downtown Sausalito!

Everything I can say totally agrees with the review written above! I have been watching this place be renovated for weeks & awaiting the opening with anticipation. My boyfriend & I went to go check it out the day after their soft opening on Sat. The decor it absolutely beautiful! It has an inviting feel with everything being open & airy. But that is where the positives end. We started off with the chips & salsa. The chips were good & I enjoyed the mango salsa, not the soupy salsa. We also ordered the fish tacos. It should say "Not to Share". I honestly could not believe my eyes when 3 TINY little tortillas with a bunch of shredded cabbage arrived with a morsel of tasteless fish underneath! Tiny & tasteless!!! I'd pay $13 for TWO really good tacos instead of 3 that left me hungry & dissatisfied. Another put off was the fact that a kitchen member was out in the front next to the bar skewing up whole RAW chickens! Right in front of us! Right next to the bar prep area! This was at 6:00 pm. It seems they would do this prep work in the back away from the public & the bar. The cocktails were alright & decently priced, but if you don't like Tequila take note, that's the only liquor they offer. This place has a great location & beautiful decor. I hope they take these reviews to heart & turn it around.

Wow, no wonder Yelp has the reputation it does. Haters gonna hate, no matter what! I went to this place Monday night and it was delightful. Love the guac, the cevice and the tamalitos. The chicken was not as good as the rest but hey, they've been open almost a week! Margaritas with the single ice cube are awesome and the service was super-friendly. I'll be back, often. ***Updated since I read other posts*** Don't you love the hater who has been Yelping all the way back since May 2012?!? And the other one since April 2012?!? And all those reviews, phew! How do you find the time to review exactly ONE business in such glowing terms? Looking forward to that Taco Bell review! Glad you won't be crowding us fans out. Ta ta. Nicely located in a beautiful space on Bridgeway in Sausalito. Great place to stop on the weekend for lunch if you are in Marin. The food is very good here, but the portions are fairly small. You should definitely order more than you normally do. We also found the service to be quite slow. Don't expect to get out of here quickly when they are busy. We enjoyed the Mexico City Style Quesadillas, Fish Tacos and the Young Goat Birria. Highly recommend all three.

I live nearby here so I have been watching this place go up for a while in anticipation... I am happy to say it delivered. When I moved from sf a few months ago I was worried about no good local food spots. I am really happy to now have copita. On my first visit I did have to wait for a little bit - but I guess that is what happens with any new hotspot. When we sst down the first thing I did was order a margie. It was awesome - strong but not too strong ;) we also ordered empandas and tamalitos. My boyfriend ate them up so quick we had to order more!!!! I had the steak tacos for my main course and they were FAB. I liked how fresh everything was. We finished off with the copita ice cream cone! The decor was really cool - and I love how open the layout it. Also, our waiter was really nice and helpful. You could tell he was busy, but he gave us VIP attention. It was a great first experience.

Copita es mi casa! Love this new place. My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to snag a table last Saturday just as they opened. We had been patiently waiting for it to open and without question, it was everything we had hoped it would be - lively and energetic, knowledgeable and attentive staff, hip décor (love the bar), savory dishes and perfect cocktails. We started off with their guacamole. It was dead on! Best I've probably ever had at a restaurant before. Once we had that, we knew we were in good hands. I had the mushroom tacos, fantastic, lots of complex flavors. We sat on the patio, a tiny space but one of the best seats in the restaurant. Amazing people watching. Overall, this place is a gem. Any hiccups you see in some of these other reviews are just because they're new. We plan on frequenting Copita as often as we can.

What happened to this place ?? I ate here twice right after it was first open . It was fantastic then . Last night ....such a disappointment! ! The tacos decreased in size by half, I had 4 small shrimp in my mini taco, my friend ordered the fish tacos and literally two bites of fish. When I ate here almost 2 years ago the tacos were loaded with shrimp, simply delicious and wonderful grilled fish tacos with plenty of fish. We ordered margaritas and added our favorite tequila. I think they however forgot to put Tequila in our drinks . I was so excited to revisit Copita but such a disappointment I won't return .

just AWFUL!!! i don't even know where to start. i thought i'd treat me and my boyfriend to a day out and we headed over to sausalito. i had another place in mind for lunch, but this place looked so inviting, and it smelled good (i'm a sucker for the smell of masa ... love love love corn tortillas). the atmosphere is gorgeous. relaxing, even. we ordered a couple of lovely paloma cocktails and were given the jicama and cucumber with chili powder, lime and salt. yum. this is where the yum ends, pretty much. when our food (i ordered seared yellow fin tacos, and my bf ordered lobster tacos) arrived, it was like wtf? both plates smelled fishy, and we seriously should have just walked out then. 3 wee little tacos each, as though they'd used a coffee cup to cut the tortillas. it made me lol because i'd originally wanted to order the ceviche, but our waitress told me that it was appetizer size. she could have told me that my tacos would be appetizer size as well ... guess she just didn't have time to explain and/or discuss. at the table sitting next to me was joanne weir. i didn't realize that this was her restaurant, but from years of watching her pbs shows, it was comforting to have her 'dining' next to me, so i decided to go ahead and chomp into my wee tiny tacos. uninspired. the tortillas were wonderful. however, there was not much fish (thank goodness, as it turns out ... i'm sitting here as i type wondering when i'll get sick, and how bad it will be). a few googles on the ferry ride home let me know that ms weir is a co-owner of this place. who knew? how rude for the very owner to be sitting right out in the dining room and not ask *any*one how their food was. too busy schmoozing, i reckon. oh, and chips and salsa were charged extra. the chips sucked. totally cardboard tasting and had anyway: -pretentious -waaaaayyy overpriced -smelly fish -tiny portions -robotic staff (they actually handed cocktail menus to a couple of little girls with their mum at the table next to us ... everybody gets a cocktail menu i suppose) -has all the makings of a tourist trap.

Bummer. We ate there the other night and I have continued to get bummed thinking about it. It was a warm night which was a treat in Sausalito and we got a table without much problem...The lead in was strong, plus I love the idea. I always appreciate when someone takes on Sausalito. I love Mexican food... The space is good. There is a large open fire which lots of restaurants but many can not have. It adds a very nice touch. The commitment to organic, sustainable etc is to be mentioned and celebrated-thank you. The service was strong. We had a server that was very responsive and cordial. The food...not special. I kept looking for flavor and it was just not there. Also, I was annoyed by the price point. The food is really no different than Tacko or Tacoliscious, and in truth each of their dishes have more commitment to flavor, and yet the price is a significant leap. Perhaps for those living in Marin this can be ok as there are few and far between options for clean mexican food however for city folk...its not worth the drive. Sorry.

We had 7:30 reservations on a Saturday night and Parking Karma was working for us as we found a spot across the street. The night only got better - I started with the Cherry Margarita, my husband ordered the Copita Margarita, and our friend had the Paloma. Each of us was very happy and since I was driving I limited myself to one drink . The 3 of us split the Copita salad (lots of veggies, healthy & good), the Coctel Mixto (trio of ceviches, very spicy and incredibly fresh and good), the Tamalitos Trio, the Carnitas, and finally the Flank Steak Tacos. Everything was seriously good, absolutely no complaints about the service or food. We were too full for dessert, but the Flan looked tempting. Pricey? We thought it was a fair price for the delicious food, drink, service & location. We'll be back, and I hope next time I'm not the Designated Driver.

Excellent 24 hour carnitas, delicious guacamole and the mojitos were fantastic. The only draw back to this place is the limited parking. Additionally, the bar tender ran out of mint to make mojitos so we were only able to drink one. we found that the staff was really friendly and nice. My husband and I loved this place and we will definitely return. Thank you

Wow - what an extremely overpriced and over rated place. Stopped in for lunch while visiting the area. 4 tacos, a kids taco, 2 margaritas, 2 seltzers, guacamole, cheese quesadilla = $100. Ooofffa. If the food was superb and the service amazing, I wouldnt have felt so ripped off. But service by an inattentive waitress and mediocre food left me feeling put off. Not sure about everyone else, but I work damn hard for the dollars I earn. I like to spend them on places that offer value and good eats. I'm going to vote with my feet and eat elsewhere next time.

This was the perfect place to meet a friend for dinner and I loved their menu! No wonder why it was so good! They have a celebrity chef in the house, Joanne Weir, who has her own cooking show on PBS called "Joanne Weir Gets Fresh." We started off with guacamole and an heirloom tomato salad with avocado, cotija cheese, cilantro and tortilla strips. The California Mahi-Mahi tacos Al pastor with roasted pineapple pico de gallo, fried tomatillo & chile serrano salsa, red onion, cilantro was well worth the wait and won me over. I'm definitely coming back

I didn't ran by this place by pure luck. This place was on PBS program called "check please!" and since the chef owner is Joanne Weir (very well known chef) we decided to check this place out. The best thing about this place is the selection of their tequilas. You will have a fair amount of choices from regular to reposado, anejo and extra anejo tequilas from 10 to 66 dollars a shot. If you are a fan of habanero peppers like Try their habanero salsa. I tried their avacoda tomato salad and their fish taco. To my chagrin, the salad had only one piece of avocado. If I order an avocado tomato salad and pay 12 bucks for it then I want me some avocado! The taco fish had a Hawaiian touch - drenched in a lovely sauce but still drenched. In conclusion, this place was sadly over-rated.

I absolutly Love Love Love this place! Not only do they have an extensive list of tequilas, but their mixed drinks are fantastic! Anything on the rocks comes slow poured over 1 large block of ice for that perfect chill with no watering down, also they fresh make their mixed drink fillers everyday. Oh let me count the drinks I love... Barbed Wire: fresh @$$ strawberry and rhubarb mix (hello favorite childhood pie) with lime juice, tequila and marachino liqour...mmm nom nom nom nom Smoking Gun: made with grapefruit juice and rimmed with chili flecks...revigerating & spicy combo drink anyone? Some Like it Hot: alright, so after the Barbed Wire and the Smoking Gun I don't remember the specific make up of this drink, but I can remember...spicy, dry, delicious Copita Margarita: I think it speaks wonders that their house drink (what some might call a basic drink) is so refreashing and amazing. I love that you don't need to order anything "fancy" to get a high class drink here. Ok so despite how this review reads I actually come here for the food and service, the drinks are just a hard plus. I haven't had a bad dish yet and have even begged my husband to quit his job and work here so he could hook me up with my Copita fix. It was a no go eventhough he also loves their tasty dishes. The 24 Hour Carnitas plate means bussiness and I don't think I could live without them. I also drool over the Trio of Tomalitos, but really trust your server when they recommend the taco of the day. Unlike most places the special isn't something thrown together to get rid of yesterdays left overs. Here the cook puts together a fantastical blend of what is fresh and new today so it's always good and always amazing. Basically great vibe, great staff, great food. Copita for the win!

This was the first restaurant we encountered when we got to Sausalito and we were starving. I was hesitant at first because of the yelp rating but i was very happy with trying this place. The food was great and service was on point! We ended up sitting outside in the patio and it was perfect. Food came out quickly and we ordered the Guacamole (wonderful), Elote Asado (mexican corn - very very good; got this with the cilantro sauce), fried pork belly tacos (crispy and fresh! Absolutely loved it and would get it again), and the wood roasted chicken (basically a rotisserie chicken with a marinade, deliciously flavorful and moist; served with corn tortillas). They have a good option of drinks too but didnt get to try it. I definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting!

The meal starts off with refreshing and complementary cucumber and jicama spears with lemon and chili powder. The almond horchata's flavor is terrific but the texture is that of sand... I was incredibly impressed with the tacos, which are made with house-made corn tortillas that are fresh and light. You have a choice of getting either 2 or 4 tacos. They're on the small side -- only about 3-4 inches in diameter -- but they're full of flavor. That being said, if you want to feel full off the tacos, get 4. If you want to save room for dessert, get 2. The house-made corn tortillas are fresh and light. Service is what made me drop a star. It took almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to introduce themselves as our waiter/waitress or ask us our drink order. However, the hostess and serving staff were very cordial and hospitable. It is worth it to make a stop at Copita when in Sausalito.

Excellent! Not only is the drive to Sausalito amazing but so is the food when you get to Copita! I was greeted by the hostess with a friendly smile. I sat at the bar as it was only 1 for dinner. The bartender was friendly and asked if I'd like a menu. After looking the drinks over, I asked for something spicy. The bartender made me a spicy pomegranate margarita - off the the menu! It was great! Balanced not too sweet, not too spicy! Chef Raul came out and we started a conversation! We talked about Copita being GMO free, having gluten-free items, sourcing local product - overall just good food! A very cool guy! As it was my first time at Copita and since I had the chef in front of me - I left my dinner choices up to him and he definitely steered me in the right direction! I started with Pepinos & Jicama with chile and limon (Cucumber spears w/ lemon and chili powder). Second - Guacamole, chips, and 2 kinds of salsa (fire roasted guajillo salsa; tomatillo avocado salsa cruda). Third - Guacamole (avocado, chile serrano, cilantro, onion). Fourth - the Papas Bravas (roasted and fried Kennebec potatoes, fried jalapeños, cumin-arbol chile dusted, fresh avocado crema). Finally - the 24 Hour Carnitas (Niman ranch pork, guacamole, tomatillo salsa, cilantro, onion, lime and corn tortillas)! A fantastic meal! Great atmosphere! Great service. Everyone is passionate about Copita and it translates to their food and service! Get out of the city and make the drive to Sausalito for quality Mexican food! #SF #SanFrancisco #Sausalito #Mexican #Food

After biking from the SF Ferry Building to Sausalito, my friend and I decided to stop by Copita for a late lunch. We stood in the doorway for no more than a few minutes, trying to decide whether we wanted to eat inside or outside, when a waitress came up to us and asked us where we'd like to sit. It was a clear, sunny day, so we chose a table for two outside. The waitress gave us menus and then filled both of our glasses with cold water. Even though we were planning on taking the ferry back to SF, we decided against getting drinks. After taking a look at their menu, we ordered the following items: Mexico City Style Quesadillas - 11 Filled with yukon potatoes & red chorizo; cuitlacoche corn truffle, epazote, serrano chile, goat cheese, queso Oaxaca, lime crema, queso fresco (me) Birria de Chivo - 19 Slow-cooked young goat, sesame seed and chili de arbol salsa, avocado, goat jus and house made tortillas (him) Neiman Ranch Carne Asada Tacos - 13/21 (order of 2; order of 4) *According to their menu, all tacos are served on corn tortillas made by hand in house. Neiman ranch marinated beef, poblano peppers, caramelized yellow onions, roasted garlic & jalapeno crema, cilantro The quesadillas were beautifully presented, and I enjoyed the one filled with yukon potatoes and red chorizo the most. The exterior breading was also very well done. My friend liked the carne asada tacos and probably could have finished an order of 4, if not for the fact that we planned on eating dinner a few hours later at R&G Lounge. As for me, this was my first run-in with goat and I thought it was fantastic! It wasn't too gamey, nor did the sauce it was cooked in overpower it. Pairing that with chunks of avocado, diced red onions, cilantro, spritz of lime juice, and the chile de arbol salsa in a corn tortilla... wonderful. This restaurant is in a great location right across the street from the ferry and I definitely recommend it for those looking for, as the restaurant's menu put it, "modern Mexican food." However, if you want a few more entrée choices (i.e. burritos, nachos, etc.), you might have to go a little further up Bridgeway to Saylor's).

I have to confess something first: I love latin pop music. Enrique and Shakira? I'm there. When I first walked into Copita and heard their soundtrack, I was instantly sold. Then I ordered a margarita. SO good. And aside from the vibrant atmosphere and delicious drinks, the food is bursting with flavor. If you're in the mood to try the wood-roasted chicken cooking on a rotisserie, go for it. It's wonderfully soft and tender. I'd also recommend the papas bravas and guacamole for appetizers. The carne asada and chicken tinga tacos are also great choices. Maybe not the best date night options as the tacos tend to seep out a lot of juice, but that's also why they're so tasty. All around, a fun place to go for dinner in Sausalito.

Came here over the weekend for a bite to each for lunch during the crazy Sausalito Art Festival/Labor Day weekend. Had a short wait with no reservation. The guacamole was creamy and enjoyed the slight heat to it. Copita margarita was great on a hot day. We also ordered the pork belly and mahi mahi tacos - delicious!! If you are a fan of belly then this is worth a try - nice crispy sized chunks. Would definitely make a return if back in town.

Wow! This was a casual stop in date and we managed to grab a table just as it opened up. You can smell the fresh made tortillas and roasting chicken when you walk in the door, and it exceeded expectations! First off the selection of tequilas here is fantastic, but while I am a serious sangria lover I can't say their red sangria did it for me. I had a delicious cocktail, I believe it was called a cool house kuke? It paired excellently with my meal, highly recommend it! We started the meal with fresh chips and guacamole, good but fairly standard. My date ordered the fried pork belly tacos, they were very good but they paled in comparison to my dish. I ordered the 24 hour carnitas, oh my goodness I cannot recommend this dish enough! My date and I both agreed I won on the meal choice, it tasted like magic! Melt in your mouth meat, hot gorgeous blue, green and yellow tortillas, a delicious avocado tomatillo sauce and red onions, cilantro and lime make for the best tacos of my life! This place was fantastic, I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!

Great little place. The chef and bar super, but the manager unfriendly and not very customer oriented. Great tacos and jicama con chile to die for. Great tequila and agave.

Best Mexican food I've had in a very long time. Ask for the Taco Del Dia. Amazing flavors and exceptionally reasonable prices.

This place surprised me. Our party of 3 biked from SF to Sausalito and was looking for somewhere to get a late lunch. I didn't think a Mexican restaurant in the heart of the most touristy spot of Sausalito would be good - but it was! Our table got 3 dishes and shared: - Neiman Ranch Carne Asada ($21 for 4 tacos) - this was delicious - Seared California Mahi-Mahi ($21 for 4 tacos) - this was pretty good - Mexico City Style Quesadillas ($11 for 3) - this was meh This review is based mostly on the Carne Asada tacos which were great. Taste: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Value for Money: 3/5 Would I come again: Yes

I like trying different types of food and this place had a very different style of Mexican food, which I liked. They had the traditional dishes but spiced it up with something different. I got the mole enchiladas and my boyfriend got the lamb tacos. We loved it. The chips with salsa and guacamole were really good too except it was a bit pricey for what it was. And our server wasn't as friendly. She seemed like she was a bit annoyed and ready to just go home.

I enjoyed the Enchiladas de Pollo en Mole Manchamanteles, although they're a little overpriced at $19. My husband and I returned to Copita on our own after our Gourmet Food Tour of Sausalito ended. The Gourmet Food Tour was part of the 10-year Yelp Anniversary Celebration in San Francisco. The tour introduced us to Copita, which is colorful and fun, and has delicious homemade tortillas, homemade salsas, and a variety of wonderful tacos and seafood on the menu. I loved Copita so much that we stopped by on our own for a meal after the tour! My husband wasn't hungry, but I was hungry. Although my Chicken Mole Enchiladas were good, I don't think it's the best thing on their menu. There wasn't much chicken in the enchiladas for $19, although the mole was delicious. Next time I'm in the SF area, I'll definitely take the ferry to Sausalito again, and I'll order a variety of seafood tacos and tostadas with homemade salsas at Copita. Copita is a festive place to have margaritas and homemade tortillas with friends!

something has changed. Maybe Joann hasn't been around as much, or they changed chefs or business goals, I'm not sure. I wished I had taken a picture of the carne asade tacos I ordered. They were "less than." I seemed to recall the meat was a bit on the shredded side with char last time; these were cubed and covered in brown gravy. There was only one sliver of a pickled onion, no cilantro, carrot, nothing. The meat was tough and chewy. Hugely disappointed the oyster tacos were removed from the menu as well. With the higher prices and lower quality, it seems like its becoming just another tourist stop in Sausalito, I'm sad to say.

Service a 5. Food gets 2. The chips are like pieces of cardboard. Seriously, why would you serve those? We had the ceviche sampler--totally blah. The pork belly tacos were blah too. Sorry Copita!

Great ambiance, great service and great food. Tried many apps and really enjoyed all of them. The chef was super cool and came out to explain the concept of the dishes. My favorite were the guacamole and pork belly taco! This was a delicious little nugget...mmm... Great little place on Sausalito to stop by and enjoy some scenic dining.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
