Arigato Sushi Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Lighting is dark and needs some air circulation. 1 stall bathroom and no toilet paper. Slow, inattentive, inefficient, and inexperienced servers. Ran out of chicken! Music suddenly turned on and off a few times. 45 minutes to make 5 rolls... Yummy though. Server forgot to refill our water. Guy with the hat, "Nestor," apologized. The owner took $5 off our bill... I'll wait a bit and hope they get better.

So far I've never had a bad experience. The food is good and they serve the right portions. It's a Japanese Restaurant and not a buffet!! Looks like some reviewers don't know about Japanese culture and food. Advice for the ones who don't like this place due to the portions, STAY away and visit a buffet so you can stuff your face.

First time here. They opened 4 months ago, but the 'Grand Opening' sign was up for a LONG time before that and my wife and I have been waiting expectantly. They did NOT disappoint! Service was great, food even better. We had two of their signature rolls and the large sashimi plate. Very tasty and exactly what I would expect from a higher end sushi restaurant; much better than anything else in Salinas, IMHO. We'll be back!

Love this place. The food is on the pricy side but is worth it. It is outstanding. Recommend highly. Staff is polite and fast. Restaurant is new and clean.

This is a somewhat new restaurant so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Usually new places will get better in the first few months as they figure things out. Number one complaint was that the rice seemed old and dry. The fish was fresh but almost ruined by the rice. The rolls look big and very creative, and the prices are the going rate for decent sushi these days. They do need to figure out which waitress is working which area. We sat at the bar for lunch and had about 5 different people serve us. When it came time to ask for the check, we had no idea who to ask. But the service was good none the less. I will go back to try some of the other rolls and to see if they do better with the rice.

Great ambiance, service, and unique and quality food. Love this new spot. Best in salinas and maybe Monterey too.

Everything was wonderful! Sunomono Salad = fresh & delicious. Pan Fried Gyoza (pot stickers) -my daughter loved! 3-Roll Lunch combo California w/cucumber added Shrimp Tempura & Teriyaki Chicken Really good! We'll be back!!!

We had dinner there the other night and it was amazing! The food was the best Japanese food I've had... anywhere. I had a favorite Japanese place in Napa and Arigato surpasses it. Great atmosphere and the service was outstanding. Skylor took great care of us and made our experience unforgettable. Ask for him when you visit and you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to go back and try another dish!

We went there for lunch excited to try a new sushi place. There was an unpleasant smell upon entering. It wasn't the food but like there was a problem with the plumbing. It was subtle and not overwhelming. I tried the bulgogi and my lunch date had the chirashi (dinner portion). The meat in my bulgogi had rubbery squid like bits connected to it. The first piece I found I just pushed it aside, but found more it was very unappetizing. The waitress returned it to the kitchen only to tell me that it was thick fat. The fish in the chirashi was poorly cut and not fresh. The service was attentive and very good but the food lacked flavor and was poor quality.

Disappointed on my first visit and will likely be my last. To keep it short, the service was not the greatest, food was good, and i think they're a bit overpriced. The place looks nice though but I still prefer Samurai or Harumi(Seaside).

I'd give this place a 5 out of 10. Because the food isn't gross, like throw away, but it's not good at all. I didn't finish my plate. Not good options for vegetarians. Go to Ikebana's. They are the best in Salinas. Even a tempura is bad here, which is usually the best part. Sushi is boring and flavorless. Udon was wack, no veggies, they are cheap and cut too many corners. Corporate style. Annoying music with cussing. Won't be back.

This place is a Monterey County game changer !!! Bravo to the Master Chef, JK & the great Nestor!! I highly recommend this restaurant!! Beautiful environment & great for the kids. Trendy, Hip and delicious Sushi!!!

My wife and I decided to try out Arigatos, because a few of our friends recommended it to us. The restaurant looks nice and the environment was great. Our server Emily, was a sweetheart and she was very helpful when it was time for us to order. She made some great recommendations and we were pleasantly surprised how good the food was. We highly recommend coming here. If you enjoy sushi and want great customer service you should definetly try this place out. Our server Emily was awesome, so if you do choose to eat here, make sure to request her. We will definetly be eating here again.

I've eaten at a wide range of sushi places in my life and I have to say this is one of the best sushi restaurants in Salinas & Monterey Bay Area. Service was outstanding on a busy evening. The rolls were very fresh and excellent. We ordered a dragon roll, SF Giants roll, protein roll & chicken teriyaki for our 3 year old & we loved everything. We will definitely be back.

  • Lyl A.

Food is amazing of course! Atmosphere, music, service, and the look of it is just amazing!!! I couldnt finish my food cuz it got me full quickly and sooooo yummy!!!

I liked the Nigiri and roll combo that comes with miso soup. Good price, good sushi. My wife doesn't enjoy nigiri and she was not a fan of this place. Too bad, since I would have liked to have a place where I can get a good deal on nigiri and still split rolls with her.

  • Kevin G.

I really wanted to like this place, but it fell short. While the initial service was prompt, the plates were brought to the table over about 5 minutes instead of at the same time. Then, he took over 45 minutes to not even get the complete order to the table (said the order had been placed while the other sushi came quickly), and then realized he had not even placed the order for the Rainbow roll. I cancelled the remainder of the order because the rest of the family had already finished eating. The server did not seem to care, so I do not either. I was really hoping though!

I just visited Arigato Sushi last weekend and was really pleased with my choices! I ordered the Titanic Fire roll, the sizzling white roll and yellow tail roll all of which were super fresh and delicious. The sushi chef, Kevin, was also kind enough to let me sample the "Japanese ceviche," which was served in a carved out orange half. I don't believe this item is on the menu, but I really wish it was! Overall, I think the owners really improved the look of the space. It's a nice place to have dinner with family, celebrate a bday and/or host an event (their banquet room is huge!) Definitely coming back here again! Hopefully they will open up there banquet room for a karaoke night!

I've have been to arigato sushi 2 times and it has been a great experience. The staff is super attentive and the rolls are just made on point. The atmosphere is just right (something different compared to all other places in salinas) they have some really good beer selection. Orion is a must if you do come here. I would definitely be coming back.

    (5)
  • Yana D.

The rolls I ordered tasted great and all the ingredients seemed very fresh. The serving of miso soup was bigger than I usually see at Japanese restaurants. The service was quick and friendly. The space is quite pleasant and was pretty quiet; there are two huge screen TVs above the bar each silently playing a different channel (I find them a bit distracting but imagine some people might actually appreciate these).

First time here. Delicious Sushi Rolls and big portions. Way excellent! Coming back soon;)

  • Michelle L.

Rolls are inventive and flavorful. Portions are quite large. Service is good. Menu is vast, contains some Korean items as well. Would definitely come back again. This is now my salinas Japanese restaurant destination.

    (4)
  • Evelyn V.

Very pricey for the small portions. The sushi rolls were pretty bland. Red dragon, salinas roll, tempura roll, red and sweet roll. The miso soup was barely warm. Spicy edamame was probably the best part of my experience here. It's a slow Monday night and the service was not that attentive.

  • J G.

I came to this place with high expectations but left feeling very disappointed. I wanted to like this place, I really did. The atmosphere is nice at least. I don't remember which rolls we ordered but I just remember that all 4 rolls had the same crab with mayo type of sauce. That really killed the flavor for me. The service was bad and just the attitude was just a killer. The prices were too high. The quality was sub par. I can for sure get better quality fish for a much cheaper price elsewhere. Like i I said I really wanted to like this place.....

I had not visited the Harden Ranch shopping center in like forever. It's definitely a lot more exciting than I remember. Arigato Sushi is tucked in the corner of a cluster of eateries including BJs Brewhouse, Five Guys and Yogurtland. When you walk in, you can't help but notice the nice decor, very classy and clean with excellent lighting. I don't know about you but I hate eating at places with bright overhead lighting. The seating is spacious and comfortable. The servers and busers were extremely professional and friendly. I was excited once I opened the menu, so many choices I had a hard time deciding what to get. I went with the Rainbow Roll and some miso soup and I was not disappointed. The fish was fresh and buttery. The food came out in the blink of an eye! My family were all happy with their choices too. I think we all licked our plates clean! I was also very happy with how they accommodated my two kiddos. My one year old ate a bunch of edamame in her highchair while my four year old devoured an avocado roll. Being a Bay Area resident for over 16 years, I wasn't expecting to be wowed by a sushi restaurant in Salinas but Arigato is just as good, if not better than my local sushi joint! Now I have another thing to look forward to when I visit my parents in Salinas!

Went in at lunch and got a lunch special box four around $12. Everything was great and service was friendly and tentative. Only negative is that they seem to use imitation crab for some of the rolls.

  • Jenn C.

I was so excited to see a new sushi place open in Salinas. After two separate visits, I have the following observations: 1. The servers and service was friendly and accommodating. 2. On each visit and with different food items, the tempura was disappointing. The crispiness and texture was fine, but the oil they fried it in was very "bitter" and left a nasty aftertaste. (Old oil?) Very unpleasant. 3. Sushi rolls were the lower end of average. Not very memorable. Each time I tried something different. Prices were on the high end compared to the quality. 4. BBQ Beef-the sauce was not very good. It didn't give the beef any notable flavor. 5. Green tea ice cream- icy and almost flavorless, not particularly creamy and ridiculously overpriced. 6. Music was a bit loud for conversation...it seems that they are going more for a younger, party oriented crowd. Will not be returning...just underwhelmed.

Always looking for a good sushi restaurant and this one just opened and am in love with their food! Would have given it 5 stars if they had wifi, but everything else was perfection for my taste buds, yum! My waitress Rickie was very attentive.

    (4)
  • Jenn Y.

Had the chirashi, SF Giants Roll & soft shell crab. Good size slices of sashimi, very fresh. Good green tea...though I had to pay $2 for that. Definitely coming back; Samurai has some competition!

Loved the food. I had the lunch box with the teriyaki salmon and the California rolls. This is my new favorite sushi place.

This place just opened. I am an avid sushi fan.i love a ton of fish fresh and good sushi. This place was out of control good. I had a hot zone roll. Now the tempura shrimp was cooked on the spot warm yummy and tge fish felt like it was just caught. I will be back.salinas has great sushi. I love shogun.but damn arigato had great food

  • Jerrie W.

First time, got take out. Ordered masago nigiri, got a bunch of eggs in a box? Nigiri is rice with seaweed? Rolls looked nothing like pictures, good but nothing to be excited about. Salad was okay, lettuce only? Only reason I tried is because my usual place was closed, next time I'll just do without! Samari Sushi is the best in town!

Opening day here, had the two roll lunch combo. I ordered the spicy tuna & California. First the spicy tuna: spice was very mild for me and I'm not big on spicy food. The California roll was much better, smooth and flavorful. Waitress was prompt and helpful. Background music is moderate, varied genres play in a shuffle, ***explicit lyrics*** came up in many of the songs during my 30 minute visit, they don't bother me personally but for patrons with children you may need to reconsider until it's addressed. Interior is nice and was remodeled completely for the resistants opening. Black sparkly granite bar top goes great with the darker interior and stainless, windows on the front and back walls let in good light but it gets lost in the center booths where the roof lighting takes over, overall very nice price is on par with other nearby sushi bars.

FOOD: 4/5 - above average VALUE: 3/5 - average The chirashi - my standing order and a good test of any sushi restaurant - was decent, though I would expect to pay around $16, rather than the $20 it cost. It came with five types of fish (one premium), though was served without wasabi or ginger. Others in the group ordered rolls, which they found to be excellent, generously proportioned, and well-priced at around the $6-$10 mark. Desert was also tasty and well-priced. Plating could have been better; while some items, such as the mango mochi, were plated quite elegantly, others looked a little dull and had poorly-arranged garnishing. SERVICE: 1/5 - poor While staff were friendly, they were obviously lacking in training and organization. There was no clear service desk at the front of house, nor did there seem to be a host. I was offered to be seated twice by two different team members, and was ultimately seated by our server. The drinks came out late, being served with the appetizers (salad, miso) and two of the entrees. Meals were served out-of-sync, so while some in our party got their food within 10 minutes of ordering, others had to wait for theirs for 45 minutes, receiving their entrees well after the others had eaten and the table cleared. One order (a hot tea) was missed entirely. Sorting out the bill took our server multiple attempts to get right, although we had told her when we were seated how we wanted it split. She did a good job of checking-in with us regularly, though (about every 15 minutes). The manager was friendly and helpful, and to his credit - and that of the restaurant - he comped multiple items for those that got their food late. ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - above average Arigato's owner(s) didn't skimp its décor. The wall treatments are elegant, subtle and well-coordinated; the furniture is new and comfortable; and the restaurant and bathrooms are clean. There is a good balance of bar, table, and booth seating. The lighting is appropriate. My only criticism here is that the music is just a touch too loud (an easy fix), such that having a cross-table conversation frequently required speaking up. OVERALL: 3/5 - average Arigato's food and atmosphere slightly exceeds par compared with other local sushi joints. We had a good dining experience overall, and I recommend it. It does have some serious service issues, which are hopefully just growing pains and will be ironed out soon. I look forward to returning here in a month or two and seeing how it has progressed.

Best sushi place to ever open on the Northside! Love the foooood and the people that work there. ...DK, Mike, Skyler, Edward...the owner Sean, always approachable. Service with a smile. this place. All the local peeps (islanders) would love this place, especially the sushi (just TUNA) platter, yummmm.

This was my first visit to Arigato and I must say I was impressed by the quality of food and the friendly staff. My inital thoughts were that I was not going to get great service, but I was wrong. After being over looked for several minutes, an employee came out from the kitchen and looked straight towards us with a friendly smile. He approached us and asked if he could help us. He introduced himself as Carlos, and let me just say that from this point on my view of the restaurant was quickly turned around. He recommended the Green Dragon Roll, and the Sweet Love Roll which were both delicious. We had a great time and though our server was not memorable at all we are glad that Carlos was able to give us a great dining experience, and hope that he will be our server in the future. The quality and price was on point. I will recommend Arigato to all my friends and family.

I am a big fan of sushi and my roommate is too. When we walked into this place, we were so impressed because we haven't stepped into a 'classier' looking Japanese restaurant in a while. My roommate ordered the Rainbow Roll & I got the Hot Fire (I forgot the name!) roll. Their fish slices are thick & beautiful. I wish I took more pictures of it, but Salinas sushi- you did good.

Horrible service, mediocre food. After seated it took about 15 min for a server to come over to us, despite there being few other customers and lots of wait staff. After the appetizer came the waiter asked if we wanted plates, stupid question. It took another 10-15 minutes to get plates after we had to grab another server. When they came they were wet. The server did not come to check on us once or refill any drinks. The tempura veggies were greasy and small portioned. The rolls were really low quality, I think they may have actually used Safeway imitation crab. Huge rolls, but the size didn't compensate for quality. Worst service I have ever had for any meal.

The SUNKISSED roll is LIFE. sake was bomb Everything else was basic. My two dates weren't impressed.

Walk in at 12:00 and you will smell the cleaning odor but. It does dissipate in about 10-15 min. That said, hubs ordered Sapporo I the 805 good choices. Temp & mussels apps. Yum on temp hubs loved the mussels though the green lips have always been a little more fishy than the black for me. Med. Sashimi had the freshest salmon I have ever had (For that reason I usually pass on it). Rainbow roll had a fish 3rd bite in that was too strong removed the rest of that one the rest were fine. Hubs had the Thai roll & Chicken Katsu Good roll but, they forgot to bring the chicken which they more than made up for . The severs were sweet and very attentive & made the first visit of many more to come. DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS ONE!! YUMMERS!!

This place is ok but I was expecting a lot more out of our experience. They have done the place up real nice the vibe seemed mellow and a place to grab some food and hang out. Service was decent, the hostess was short and to the point but I didn't pay any attention to that. Our server was nice and checked on us periodically. The food looked the part as we ordered a few rolls and some edamame but the taste did not hit the spot. The hot rolls we ordered were room temperature and not hot which gave it an extra slimy feel to them. The rice tasted stale and we had to cover them in soy sauce to get something to hide the taste. The price for two people to eat was a little high but that doesn't bother me if you get a great product which they fell short on. I wanted to love this place as Salinas doesn't have many spots like these but I can't recommend this to my friends.

This is an updated review from my previous 5stars---now I'm disappointed. The first time we went here we actually dined in; service and food was amazing. That is why I gave the 5 stars! However we have ordered out (for pick up) twice from Arigato and both times our orders have been missing stuff. The first time we were missing her tempaura and today when I ordered a lunch box for pick up we were missing the California rolls. I was willing to let the first time slide--honest mistake. But the second time is just ridiculous!! They should be very careful and check orders to make sure they are correct. I'm buying and paying for the food and expect to get what I ordered. Food is good but the fact that they mixed up my order the two times I have ordered is unacceptable!

  • Christian C.

If your craving for sushi don't go here is the worse place to go. Beacuse I order the Lion king and the portion of sushi is pretty small and a bit pricy and one of the chef is coughing while making order.so better head of to Samurai if you want some good and big portion of sushi.

Wanted to try this place on a day date with my daughter. She excitedly opened the door and was greeted by the young man with, "we don't open for another three minutes, sorry." My 8 year old daughter asked why the door was opened if they're closed. I'm not sure what the harm in allowing us to sit and look over the menu would have been, but feeling unwelcome we left and ate next door.

My first time going to this place today, because samurai was closed. Anyway, I absolutely loved the restaurant decor, is very modern and looks almost like a lounge. Staff is very friendly. I ordered the Johnny roll and it was very good. I always order mussels as an appetizer at every Japanese restaurant I go, so I gave them a try here but they were not too tasty. My boyfriend order the shrimp tempura roll and it was delicious however they made the rolls way too big I couldn't put a piece in my mouth (made a mess). It's somewhat pricey compare to other places, but it makes sense due to location.

After reading Joe Truskot's glowing review of Arigato Sushi in "The Californian," I had to come see what all the hype is about. My friend and I came in for lunch and were quickly seated. The staff at Arigato is especially attentive and our server, Rickie, never kept us waiting. My friend and I ordered a shrimp chip appetizer along with a couple of Sapporos and some hot saki; a delicious start to our meal. For our main course, I had the chicken teriyaki with tempura combination plate (super bomb!), and my friend ordered the medium sashimi plate (also bomb!). While dining, the restaurant's manager, Nestor -- young and energetic -- came to our table, greeted us, told us about the restaurant's history, and offered free dessert on the house (yes, please!). Overall, I was very satisfied and will be back here soon, as this is clearly the best sushi spot on the North Side of Salinas.

I had a great experience here tonight. We were greeted enthusiastically by the hostess and sat at a table promptly. Our glasses were never empty and our food came out in a timely manner. I found out later it was the busser, Carlos's, first day and you would have never known. He was very attentive and funny. Our server, Rickie, was great, asked all the right questions and made sure we were never unattended. JK, the sushi chef did an amazing job with all of our rolls! They all had tons of flavor and were beautifully prepared. The restaurant as a whole was very clean and well run by the manager, Nestor. All other guests seemed very happy and the entire place generally had a very great vibe. I don't live in Salinas but I can't wait to return the next time I'm in town!

  • A.R. B.

My wife have been here twice so far and we loved it. We were upset when we moved to Salinas to find out that Samurai was the highest rated sushi in town. Ikebana (rated lower) is better than Samurai. We are happy that these guys showed up to Salinas. The atmosphere is nice and the waiters and sushi chefs were great both times. As nice as the place is, I would hope they would have a full bar one day. If we ever have friends over and they want sushi, this will be the number one spot.

Went two days in a row, food is consistent and great. Nicely decorated inside with great big screens with sports on! Hard to find quality and fresh Japanese places to eat. Highly recommend !

This is our second time at Arigato Sushi. The first time it was great but the second time not so much. The service was horrible and they messed up our order and bill. Our waitress wrote down our order wrong and we got the wrong roll. We ordered the red dragon roll but she wrote down the dragon roll. Then our bill comes and she charged us for a combo tempura dinner instead of an appetizer. While we were eating she never refilled drinks until we asked. It was not a good experience and on top of it all it was our anniversary dinner. I don't think we'll be back.

  • Michelle K.

The service wasn't as bad as anticipated. I feel like people are making a huge deal of the new servers and hosts. They were all very friendly, though a little scattered in my opinion. The sushi may be pricier, but you are DEFINITELY getting what you pay for. This place is very posh and the sushi chefs serve quality sushi. I was blown away maybe because I didn't expect a place like this to open in Salinas. My other favorite sushi restaurant is Kokoros, where the rolls are a bit cheaper and bigger. But if you want to take your lady out for some quality, real sushi, this is the place. I would usually have to drive to San Jose for this kind of a sophisticated environment and awesome sushi, but I'm glad they're in town now.

My first time here today. Beautiful presentation! All the rolls we got was amazing and cool place to date. I love the fact that we have great sushi in downtown. Service, I'm sure they're working on it and saw them trying really hard already. We'll sure go back soon!!

In my upon opinion this establishment is still working out the kinks. The taste isn't on par with big city sushi bars. I feel it's a little pricy for quality and it wouldn't be my first choice.

Here right now and chef doesn't even smile and we are in front of him, sushi bar dirty and still waiting for food, I wouldn't come back here even if the food is good .

This review is not for the new/slow service. This place just recently opened and I expected some confusion. No big deal. We had the Teriyaki Chicken and Teriyaki Salmon entrees both with tempura. We also ordered a California roll and Yellow tail roll. The rolls were fine but nothing special. The seaweed was rather chewy tough. They were also falling apart. The miso tasted like something from a can and barely warm. Weak. The salad was fresh but the dressing would not be my choice. Some sort of creamy mess. The salmon was some factory made portion and just warm. The chicken was cold. The tempura seemed like something from a bag in the freezer. Think Mall food court quality food at fresh prepared food prices. Actually I have had food court meals I enjoyed more. Our favorite Japanese place in Salinas has closed and we had high hopes for this place. This is no replacement. I don't anticipate this improving with time.

Restaurant interior is dark with that modern sushi vibe. We were seated immediately. Music was played a lil too loud was hard to hear conversations of the person sitting next to me. Menu was extensive. I always order iced tea at restaurants and saw they had "Hawaiian iced tea" ordered that and was shocked when the waiter delivered a cup of ice and a can of "aloha maid" lol. I was expecting freshly brewed iced tea. our table was without utensils so when our appetizers came we had no napkins and we're given forks instead of chopsticks (strange) so we had to flag down busboy to get the rest of our tableware. Ordered superman burrito that had the "soy" rice paper. It actually tasted like a very thin crepe. I'd have to say it was an odd texture and definitely confused my palate. I should have listened to previous yelpers. Overall, ok

Decent atmosphere, but there are far better established sushi places in town. Service was good but rolls lacked originality , seemed every roll was a California roll with just different things on top!

  • Arnie V.

Restaurant offers a reasonable assortment of sushi. The sushi we ordered were fresh and flavorful. However, the Unagi Donburi and Tonkotsu Ramen were mediocre. And said order portions were unexpectedly small. Overall, prices were much too high for the quality and amount of food actually served. Prices were even higher than much-better sushi restaurants in the Bay Area. Only redeeming factors were the friendliness and attentiveness of their servers.

My husband and I were looking for new restaurant in town and heard this place just opened up few months ago. We ordered SF giant roll, rainbow roll and chicken katusu and paid $48.!!! Food was ok not super great. Service was acceptable also but quite pricey.

We stopped by for dinner on March 19 but ended up walking out. I believe the establishment is still too new and staff most likely still training. My reason for leaving is because they didn't have any green tea. A big no-no for a Japanese restaurant for me. They also didn't have any iced tea although listed on the menu. Will most likely give it another try once they are up to speed since the food items sound really good.

Restaurant set up is really nice, love the modern look inside! However, there was a terrible odor in the restaurant that everyone inside could smell while we were dining, weird?! The sushi rolls were poorly made, my California rolls were falling apart as soon as our server set them down on our table. When I looked over at the sushi bar the sushi chefs were drinking beer making a toast with each other and 2 other guests seated at the sushi bar..... That was very odd to me and so unprofessional! I asked our server if they saw the sushi chef's drinking alcohol while they were WORKING & our server confirmed they were. I asked if that was okay or allowed and our server said no and was so lost for words and just apologized for the situation. Needless to say, the rest of our dining experience was uncomfortable and my group was dissatisfied with our meals + the intoxicated sushi chefs making our sushi orders. I will not recommend this restaurant to my friends and family due to this terrible experience. I'll stick with my trusty Ikebana's or Samurai Japanese restaurants in Salinas.

My bf and I went to try it out today..we were very disappointed their staff weren't welcoming at all once the waitress sat us at our table we waited for like 10mins to be approached to ask what we wanted to drink when she finally came we asked her questions about the rolls and was clueless of the menu. After she brought our food she never came back to offer us refill on our drinks. I also thought I was over priced and the food wasnt even that great.

Spent $57 for a Large Sapporo, beef/tempura combo, Sunset Roll, and Oyako Don for the wife. Price itself is pretty average comparing to other nearby Japanese restaurants. The food however, beginning from the first to last dish. Initially wanted to order the Tonkatsu Ramen (I usually judge how authentic a Japanese restaurant is by broth/noodle) however they said they ran out of their usual noodle & only had Udon left, by the description the waitress gave me it sounded like Sun Noodle type of ramen noodle which is the closest I'll ever get to getting real ramen noodles with my broth recipes, sooo next time. Service was quick, staff separated by white & black shirts, white shirts taking & serving orders, black shirts for support. Overall good customer service. The Sunset roll (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, wrapped with eel & eel sauce) was good 4/5 (reason not 5/5 at end), Oyako Don flavor was spot on, only complaint with it was it was served in an inclined bowl instead of a flat surface bowl so you won't be getting equal amounts of rice & egg all the time, small OCD. for the beef/tempura combo, regarding all the dishes the short grain rice wasn't cooked with enough water so the rice in the sushi/oyako don/combo plate were all tougher & dryer, also not the biggest fan of short grain rice already so partly personal pref. tempura sauce was flavorless, added a little soy sauce for a little... something. Overall 3/5, not somewhere I'd go to look for entree's but if its just for a Sapporo & sushi then by all means. Once I get to taste the Tonkatsu broth & noodles end up how I hope they taste i'll say 4/5. I do enjoy tho that they have a kids combo menu, all 2 or 3 kids entree's are what my son love the most out of Japanese food. Edit: also, can't help but keep pointing out when I pass by... "Hey look they spelled their name wrong".

My family loves good Japanese food, and this being the newest one in Salinas we had to sample the food. The presentation is very hip, decor is trendy as opposed to other sushi bars in town. The hostess seated us rather quickly and began to review the menu. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame and were very pleased with the flavor of the dish. It had just the right flavor and did not over do it on the spice. We then ordered the chicken teriyaki plate with tempura and this was also quite tasty. The chicken had just the right amount of teriyaki glaze and the tempura was also very good. We then ordered 3 rolls, the Johnny b Goode, the dragon and one that was topped with a jalapeno. All of them were delicious, though my wife and I did not get to sample these as well since my children devoured them as soon as they were laid on the table. We will definitely have to go back to truly sample these for ourselves. However, we did like the location, the ambiance, and the friendliness of the staff were definite reasons to come back for another visit. Not to mention that they will be the only sushi restaurant in Salinas open on Sunday! This is definitely our new sushi stop in town.

I can't rate the service because someone picked up the food for me. I had the Red & sweet roll, sizzling white roll, and a house salad. The salad was good, I'm a present frequent sushi eater and I like a wide variety of different types of rolls so I know the difference in quality sushi and not-so-good sushi. I barely finished any of the rolls, the flavor was bland, the fish did not taste fresh, and one of the rolls had extremely crunchy carrots in it which did not mix well with the roll. The sushi was very similar to what you would buy at the grocery store or 7-11. I would definitely prefer Kokoro.

Sat at the sushi bar and waited and waited. After asking the sushi chef and hostess who I ordered from a waitress finally came. Oysters were almost tasteless but the rest was standard sushi nothing to write home about. Awful service.

I was not visually impressed by Sushi rolls. Not impressed with flavor. Decor is however very nice. The staff was nice. They took long to get my order ready. I ordered a Red dragon roll and Titanic roll and they topped my red dragon roll with what looked like noodles but tasted like crab.

This is actually the third time I went in. Second time wasn't notable but it wasn't bad either. Today we came in for early dinner and we get the table in front of their in/out door which isn't the perfect place to sit but it's fine. What made it worse was that the sun was coming down and the light just had to blind me for 20 minutes, so I highly suggest either move that table or invest in blinds, like Starbucks. Service, improved, but we were the first to sit and the last to leave from two other tables near by. And we only ordered a sashimi donburi and sashmi salad?! My sister always orders the sashimi donburi which comes with a soup and salad. The donburi always comes out different, but that's because each chef does it there own way. The issue is she never knows if she will get her miso soup and salad. Today we received two salads, even though I ordered a salad. Oh well, the food was excellent and I think that is why we keep going. We didn't want to ask the guy for the miso soup cause frankly we were waiting for a longer time then the other two table who sat after us. Plus they were busy since we could hear every conversation they had thru the in/out door.

Here for lunch with buddies from work. This location is smack in the middle of a large shopping center off Main Street in colorful Salinas, CA; home of the California Rodeo. Typical Japanese restaurant; food was not particularly astonishing but the over zealous waitress made up for the lack of mediocre food with genuine interest and enthusiasm. To the point of interrupting our working lunch. I ordered a teriyaki beef Bento box lunch and liked the price $10.95. Pretty decent save for the meat not being cut very well and being only supplied chop-sticks, proved to be a challenge. Bathrooms and kitchen appeared clean and there is abundant parking in a large shared parking lot. Going to try one more time before awarding anything over 3-stars.

First time here. Food was good. Watched a sushi chef make our roll and saw him cut his finger. He touched the blood with his other hand and continued to finish the roll. Then got a towel to stop the bleeding while in the food area. I had to tell them we no longer wanted that roll. Must not have thought it was a big deal because the waitress took the roll into the kitchen and asked if anyone wanted a roll. It is a huge deal ! You may not look sick, but you never know if you carry a disease and I don't want it.

I have been here twice for lunch, great seating area. Prefect for the business lunch or solo. The waitress are very attentive and will check with you while they are on the floor. Food was delicious and fresh! Ordering was smooth and came out perfect. You have to try the Jalapeno bombs! One addition to the menu I would add would be "BROWN RICE" I'm so happy that they opened this great Sushi bar in this shopping center. Love the decor/ music and just the great Vibe it gives off. Makes you want to go back plus the food of course!! ;)

We really wanted to like this place after we walked in on a Friday and saw how nice the decor was. It looks like a up scale Japanese place. We always have a combination Bento at a new place as our comparison to other places. I got their chicken teriyaki and tempura plate. My husband got their salmon teriyaki and sashimi plate. They give you have huge chicken portion but it was over cooked and dry. The tempura tasted like it had been sitting out for a while, greasy and pastey. I tried my husbands salmon teriyaki and it had a different teriyaki sauce on it then my chicken, I like his better. We had to wait 20 minutes to get his sashimi and only after we asked what happened to it. Overall the food just just barely ok. They have alot of wait staff but everyone is jumping from table to table so we had to wait for everything. Don't know if we'll be back.

Clean fresh sushi with a very friendly proprietor. Their sister stores are the Crab bucket and KokoRo in south salinas. My only recommendation is bring the macadamia nuts into the menu and you will see me here more.

Visited Arigato for the first time with my s/o and his friend. I was pleasantly surprised to see fellow Koreans enjoying their meal here, as well as hearing the chefs speaking Korean! (I know, I was just excited because I don't think I've ever seen anything Korean in Salinas, so it was a touching moment. I felt right at home hehe) The sushi is bomb, portion sizes are perfect and it was a very delightful experience. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because the air-conditioning was way too strong, and we were all freezing while eating our meal. Prices are adequate, I don't think sushi places really differ with their prices, unless it's a really high-end sushi place. Other than that, I think I would come again for their epic sushi :)

What a nice place. The setting has that warm feel to it. Very inviting. A clean up beat sushi resteraunt. The staff is on point. Friendly, attentaive, polite. Quick on service... I mean wow! Got our beers and not even a second later got our appetizer (potstickers) they have pork inside! Yum! Soon after the rolls came out; we got the Sizzling White, Red & Sweet, & Titanic Fire Roll. All delicious! But my fave of the 3 was the Red & Sweet. Our waitress was very helpful not pushy at all; she would let us be while still checking on us from time to time. The rolls are delicious and accurate on size compared to other places. The price is a bit on the high side but it's sushi... when is sushi ever inexpensive. Overall a great add on to the resteraunt scene here in Salinas. Will definetly be back.

I like this place. Nice re purposing of the old Peets coffee (which died because too many sheep need their Starbucks). Solid sushi. A few Korean choices. Good service. Try the Bul Go Gi (marinated rib-eye) for a nice change. The Johnny Roll is darn tasty as well. We will definitely go again.

This was my first time! First Impression: Visually appealing. I'm impressed by the decor here, it's definitely a big transformation from a coffee joint to a Japanese restaurant. Environment: The layout of the restaurant is rectangular length-wise, kind of narrow, but spacious enough to walk around. The lighting around the restaurant is a bit dim. I'm going to assume it's apart of the ambience for dinner time. It's clean, smells fresh, and seems like a lot of customers love coming here. Staff & Service: My friends and I arrived on a Wednesday night and upon walking in we were greeted and seated immediately, a plus. Our waitress (can't recall her name) was very attentive, courteous, and did well to get us familiarized with the menu, another plus. I always look for attentiveness from restaurants and Arigato Sushi employees were consistent in providing my friends and I this aspect (+++). Food: I ordered the Medium Sashimi plate ($23.50 w/o tax) and I will admit I was expecting there to be more sashimi when I received it. However, to my surprise it was actually filling with the side rice I had. Quality? From (bad)1-5(good)? I'll give it a 5. With sashimi being one of my favorite Japanese dishes, Arigato sushi serves it fresh, presentable and melts right in the mouth. Alcohol: I can see why Mio Sparkling Sake is one of the popular alcoholic beverages. It's very simple, sweet, and low in alch content. If you have a small to moderate appetite, this would be a good place. If you have a large appetite, be prepared to spend a little more than $15 per person. It's just an estimate, but the overall price will depend on you and your choice of dishes. I would come back here again, but only occasionally since this place can get pricey.

There is so much creativity in some of the special rolls here, I love it! I've been twice now; the service is good and the food is fantastic. Portions, freshness, and style are all exactly what i was looking for in a local place. My Dad and I are both looking forward to going back.

I needed something different from my usual Friday routine. It's Good Friday, can't eat meat, should have a healthy meal. This is where I ended up. They've been open 3 weeks. It is clean, there are TVs with sports on them, "go sports". I sat at the counter and watched the sushi chefs work; they are clean, professional, easy to talk to and they make beautiful rolls. There is a large menu to select from, with something for everyone. They also have a good selection of vegetarian rolls. I had the small Combination Sushi; tuna, salmon, yellow tail, seared ahi, and walu. With spicy tuna roll along with a good sized side salad and miso soup. I also had the hot green tea. Perfect, it was all very good. See photos. I will be recommending ARIGATO to friends and certainly coming back at my earliest convenience. Thanks guys!!

I've had gastric bypass surgery so I cannot eat rice. I ordered a riceless sushi roll and they did an amazing job! They went above and beyond with assisting me! The flavor of the roll was great! Above that they had amazing staff that was very attentive and nice. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone!

The three stars go directly to the Sushi chefs and the man with the hipster hat. We had the SF Giants Roll (our favorite) and the Red Mountain (also tasty). The rolls were really tasty and had a good portion of fish! We also ordered the tofu ramen which was, for lack of better words, not good. It tasted like nothing. And it had corn in it which was even weirder. Maybe it's because I started eating Ramen in Little Tokyo in LA, but this was the first bowl of ramen that I didn't finish. It had absolutely no taste. It tasted like nothing. The man in the hat recommended the pork (it's apparently more full of flavor) but we don't eat meat. I hope they find a way to add more flavor to the tofu ramen. Maybe add veggies besides corn. Or skip the tofu and add vegetables... Our waitress seemed like it was her first time inside a Japanese restaurant. I asked her the difference between the two ramens and her response was, "Ramen is like a soup with noodles." After we ordered she ran away (didn't even take our menus away) and we never saw her again. The man in the hat finally took our menus away, refilled our drinks, served us food, etc. Our waitress eventually brought us our check so we could finally leave. I would probably come back for the sushi...and I hope they get the service kinks taken care of. They all seemed a bit overwhelmed, lacked communication, and the guy with the hat was the only person to ask if we needed anything.

Gets 4 star sushi and 5 star service. They learn your name very quickly here. Salmon Fever Roll and the Red Mountain Roll are delightful expressions from the Chef. Full of unique flavor and traditional character. The lunch specials are great values and keep coming fresh out of the kitchen. Will happily dine here as long as I am around Salinas.

I really wanted to love this place. The ambiance is exciting beautiful and the chefs looked very professional from where I stood. I walked in on a very hot afternoon and had changed into jeans and a crop top after work to beat the heat. I flashed a bubbly smile at the hostess first thing when I came in and started to say hello when she interrupted by sharply saying "For here or take out??" Then proceeded to look at my midriff and raised her eyebrows. I ignored her judgment and politely asked to see a menu. All or her corespondance with me was pretty abrupt and impatient. I felt like she was hurrying me out because of how I looked. The rest of my time there I felt uncomfortable ,insecure ,and ashamed. So I left untill my food was done My food was great the chefs do a wonderful job. The sweet red was very very good. I just wish I didn't have to deal with the body shaming. Maybe she had a bad day. I might visit again if she's not around.

Location: This place is at the corner of the strip mall next to BJ's. Because the way it is situated in the building, their floor plan and their decor was severely hampered. This place is also competing parking spaces with BJ's, 5 Guys, red lobster, and a few other establishments. Food: The chicken teriyaki is decent, I think it tasted better then the rest of the Japanese restaurants. But it is still not top notch as they like to over cook the chicken. The beef teriyaki is so so, but as sad as it sounds, it is still better then the beef they served in the Japanese restaurants in town. But the portion is very limited. Sushi rolls are good, but I think it is still a bit lagging behind compare to Samurai at Sherwood Shopping center in terms of variety and designs. The Ramen is indeed bland as one of the pervious comments stated. I had the tonkastu Ramen. But to be fair, the pork they served with the Ramen is top notch. It is one of the best tasting roast pork I ever had. (Note, the pork is roast pork, unlike some of the places that serves you battered and deep fried pork) Unfortunately, for a $12.95 bowl, I got only 2 pieces of pork. ... The tempura is decent. The batter is about medium thickness. I personal prefer the lighter batter like they served at Samurai at Sherwood. Portion: The portion sizes are fairly large. I do believe any of the stand alone entrees/lunchboxes will more then able to feed an adult. Well, maybe not the Ramen, that one is iffy. During lunch, your best bang for the bucks is the lunchbox and not the lunch entree. They seemed to have the same portion of the meat size, but the box comes with 3 pieces of California roll and a small portion of tempura a well. The green tea: It is a very good green tea, complete with the fried rice flavor. But for those of you who aren't pure tea drinkers (as in don't drink tea plain), the green tea might be too strong for you. And it is also $2 a pot. And that is a small pot. The refill of hot water is free. What does a small tea pot has to do with anything? It means the first pot of tea will be very strong, and it will get even stronger the longer you let it sit there while waiting for it to cool down. Would I go back again? Probably, but on an off day when I want variety from all the other Japanese restaurants in town. Disclaimer: I am a dedicated foodie. I go to places for food and not for service. Unless the services are extremely hostile, I don't comment on it.

Visited this place for the first time. Got the cucumber salad and pot stickers for appetizers, and assorted nigiri for main course (yellow fin, salmon, fatty tuna). Everything came out fast. Everything was delicious, but be warned it is by far the most expensive sushi place in Salinas. The fatty tuna did not list a price as it is seasonal, and we were quite shocked to get our bill and find out each order of it was 14.95. For dessert got the deep fried ice cream, which was good but skimped on the ice cream, go figure.
