Let me clarify and explain my 4 star rating as simply as possible: inexpensive. For $8, you get access to an all-you-can eat salad, soup, pizza, and pasta lunch. There aren't a ton of options, and none of the food is amazing, but you really can't talk shit if you're only paying $8 for lunch Downtown and getting to stuff yourself as much as you want. I actually kind of dig their crust. The employees are nice, they are quick to replenish items and pick up trash, and there is plenty of seating (including a patio). One star off because you have to use disposable everything (plate, bowl, utensils, cup). I realize this probably cuts down on the work for them (no dishes), but it is WAY bad for the environment (everything is Styrofoam, not even paper) and I frankly hate the way Styrofoam feels. That said, I will be back for lunch.

I automatically give this place such a good evaluation because of the friendliness of the employees. On busy days such as the days of a convention or a random event, this place is always worth going to. Now, their soups and pizzas are beyond wonderful, and if one wants to order something that is not part of the buffet, that item will not disappoint by any means. Upper Crust all the way!!!

Got here on a Saturday morning about 11:30. We did the all you can eat that includes a salad bar. Pizza was hot and delicious and the salad bar was fresh had lots of tasty toppings.

Great lunch under $10 right across from the convention center. All you can eat pizza, salad, pasta and soup.

Pizza was okay. Not the best but okay. Chicken wings are horrible! No sauce on them and when I asked if they had sauce for them and they gave me Tabasco sauce. The chicken was mostly fat and not seasoned at all. No salt or pepper or anything. Think they just through some frozen wings into the deep fryer and serve it with a side or ranch.... gross.

Pros: salad bar and a variety of flavors of pizza to choose from. Easy to grab a quick bite before heading into a movie. Cons: the quality of ingredients and the pizza aren't made fresh. They're frozen. Knowing that, it's hard for me to justify paying $2.50 a slice.

I was impressed with their buffet selection for only eight bucks. They offer salad, pasta and clam chowder as part of their buffet. And they don't cut the pizza slices up in small slices, either. The portions were huge. Another positive is they're always making fresh pizza. And there were several varieties, too, from pepperoni to vegetarian and Hawaiian. If you're in downtown and looking for a cheap buffet with a good selection, Upper Crust is the way to go.

Fantastic pizza, fresh ingredients, good vibe, best pizza ive had in a while. :-) Staff was friendly and good music.

Good basic Pizza and Salad bar. Friendly staff, quick service, clean. Just good standard pizza. Every other Pizza joint in the area seemed to be focused on Hipster type goat cheese / balsamic / aren't these ingredients cool $30 Pizza. We couldn't even get a basic Pepperoni or Hawaiian at Pizza Rock. Sometimes you just want a nice standard well done, this was it.

Summary: BREADSTICKS = YUMMY!!!!!!! I started eating at Thee's Upper Crust Pizza back in the early/mid 1990's in Greenhaven (that site no longer open). The BREADSTICKS were what we always ate, being in high school and on a lunch money budget. After moving out of state, then coming back, I had a craving for those good 'ol things. Well, Mrs. Thee still owns the place, and the breadsticks are still AWESOME! FYI- they are pizza dough covered in garlicky deliciousness, with mozzarella, then baked to perfection; served with their delicious marinara or ranch- or both! They come in the same sizes as the pizzas, and are very reasonably priced! I don't live as close to downtown as I used to, but when the craving calls, it's definitely worth the trip! Thanks for keeping it going, Mrs. Thee! See ya soon!

If your heart is set on an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet, this is your place. If you're just looking for some legitimately delicious pizza, I'd venture a couple blocks down to Pizza Rock. This isn't a place where you order your slice and they heat it up. They decide what pizzas to prep and stick 'em under a heat lamp. On the one hand, this is great for people who need a super quick lunch and don't want to stand around waiting for a slice to be ready...you're pretty much guaranteed to get a slice at any given time. For those of us who don't mind waiting a few minutes for non-heat-lamped pizza, this may not be your shtick. As for the pizza quality itself, what can I say? In my opinion, it's got enough in common with pizza to barely satiate my cravings...but this is NOT amazing pizza by any stretch of the imagination. The sauce is kind of weird and spicy...not as in "hot," more like "filled with a bunch of dried Italian spices." Which would be fine, I guess if it tasted good. But it tastes like jarred pasta sauce you could pick up at Safeway. Crust is mediocre. Final Say: Fine if you're in a rush, in the area, and want a slice of pizza that's just "good enough." Take note: They close before 4pm on most weekdays. This place is meant for the business crowd. So if you're planning to stop by after 4pm, I'm afraid you'll be S.O.L.

Was decently impressed with their lunch buffet. They being out pizzas pretty efficiently and flavors are good. But, their sandwiches were a little small for my liking. Staff were very nice and accommodating. My group did a pizza request for the buffet and they were happy to grant it. It was their pesto chicken pizza, which was very tasty. I'm not a huge pizza fan, but I would come back for the pizza. Everything tasted fresh.

$7.99 for lunch buffet. It was good. You had choices of two soups, salad bar and pizza buffet. I tried the chicken noodle soup. It was good. Had a salad, although the blue cheese tasted a bit funny. My hubb thought the blue cheese tasted funny too. Then he tried the ranch dressing and said it was way better. There were a variety of pizzas. The sauce on the pizza was a little more bitter than I prefer, a bit acidic. I like my pizza sauce to be less acidic, but not sweet. I recommend, three stars. I got my monies worth for $7.99 plus tax.

This place was good and reasonable. Kind of has a Round Table taste to ot which I happen to like. The service was good. They being everything to you and large drinks have free refills. I tried the plain cheese with jalepeno on it and really enjoyed it. A small was enough for me and two kids ( 7 & 8)

My car broke down in one of the parking garages. So I decided to wait it out and head out to get Pizza. My Friend suggested Upper Crust Pizza. Setting The spot is showing its age - it feels like I was in the twilight of the 90's. Hopefully they can update the look and feel. There is a buffet Pizza option, which I didn't try. It is a very casual spot and good for a quick bite. Good for a lunch break especially in the specific area with some overpriced options. Food We went with the Vegetarian Option and my only Pizza choice - Hawaiin. The order was quick and we had our food in under 15 minutes. The food was fresh and the pizza delicious. The dough did not feel heavy and the ingredients was fresh. Experience I'll definitely head out to the spot or even order Pizza's for my office in the future. If you want an alternative to very expensive Pizza on K Street I would suggest Upper Crust Pizza.

We went here for a lunch on a busy day at the Convention Center. They had a quick lunch that offered Pizza, Salad, and soup. The Adults were $7.50 and kids $4.50 without a beverage. There was a Potato salad and a cold anti pasta, as well. The soup was Chicken noodle soup and they had a Spaghetti rotini pasta dish too. The Pizza was the star of the show. Light crispy crust and very abundant choices of pies. I had the Hawaiian and the combo pizza. There was plenty of seating inside and outside and it was pretty clean. Definitely will be back for lunch.

Okay, here's the deal, this place is nothing fancy. You pay at the counter, eat off of paper plates with plastic utensils, the salad bar was pretty standard and I would not touch the pasta on the buffet, personally. But the pizza was solid, the price was right and they were easily able to accomodate our party of 16 on a Saturday night. It was my husband's birthday and we wanted to get together with everyone for dinner before going to the IMAX across the street to see The Hobbit. We were going to have several kids with us for the dinner portion so we wanted something kid friendly - pizza it is! Originally my husband wanted to go to another pizza place downtown, we called more than a week in advance and they said they were all booked up. We called another pizza place on K and they rudely told us that unless we were a party of 25 and paid a deposit we would just have to take our chances. We had a movie to get to and kids who don't take kindly to waiting in line, so that wouldn't work for us. Finally I called Upper Crust and the lady on the phone was so nice, such a change from the two previous places. She said she would reserve our party a table, no problem! When we arrived soaking wet from the rain we saw that the restaurant was pretty much empty. However, the buffet was well stocked and for $7.75 it couldn't be beat. I honestly don't know of any other pizza place that does buffets for dinner as well as lunch. Our group has a wide variety of incomes and since we could not afford to pick up the bill for dinner this worked for everyone in our party. They had four different types of pizza out at any given time. I saw cheese, pepperoni, veggie, Hawaiian, supreme and sausage/pepperoni. The slices were generous too. I ate the supreme and the sauce had a little bit of a kick, which I really liked. No bland pizza here. The salad was fine, nothing fancy, but they did have balsalmic dressing. They also had pasta and soup but I did not try either one. They have beer by the bottle and wine, although I was told it was box wine. My brother and I kept talking about how much potential this place has. The dining area is huge and with a little sprucing up it could really go a long way. Also real dishes would help and maybe redo the counter area. A few more groups of people came in after we did, so maybe they aren't as dead at night as it first seemed. The staff was nice here, although not super present since it is self-serve at the buffet. It seemed like there were only two people working that night. They have a ice cream novelty freezer by the front door where you can pick up an ice cream sandwich. Very casual. Ultimately we were pleased with our experience. This is not Pizza Rock, so no trucks coming out of the walls or dancing pizza tossers...but you also don't have the crowds, the high cost or most importantly, the nasty attitudes.

Much overdue review. Maybe I wasn't sure how to rate it. But the pizza quality and price for the buffet $8 is top notch. Only reason not to give it 5 stars is the lack of a dessert and not a fan of the paper plates and cups. Only place you'll find a pizza buffet in the area during the evening on weekends I should add also.

This is a great place to stuff your face without spending too much dough. The lunch buffet is awesome and they earn extra points for providing baby spinach and CORN at the salad bar. Also extra points for the cashier who was fast with his hands, professional with his speech and sported a sweet Megadeth T-shirt. The pizza wasn't anything to rave about (I'm still spoiled by Pizza Rock) but it was definitely worth the price, especially for all you can eat!

Took the students on a field trip to Sac State and this was where we took them to eat. The service was great! We were able to get a discount for the students for the all you can eat pizza and salad bar! I believe it was only $6.95 per student. There were enough tables inside and outside to hold 40 students. They even allowed us to bring outside drinks since our program doesn't cover more than the amount listed above. (Water was free). The thin crust was not too shabby and they kept refilling the salad bar and pizza so that the kids never went hungry :) There is a turn out if you go down 13th between J and L to drop off the students right outside the restaurant. Afterwards, we took the students across the street to see the blue painted trees (25k worth of our tax dollars) and to the Starbucks (which we regret since we had to do a quick pit stop prior to our next trip to UC Davis). On a beautiful day like Monday, this is a great location at the heart of Sacramento! Raised in Sacramento myself, I love telling my students about Sac Town the Mack Town!

I went because I was in the area for the Wizard World comic con convention. For 8.00 I got a buffet of Pizza, Salad and Soup. I love Pizza with tons of sauce and that was a highlight for me. The cheese wasn't awesome but generous toppings. The place is pretty run down considering the location but I was there to eat and I loved how the refilled the pizzas and salad's often. I give it 3 stars instead of four because of their flimsy plate and bowls and plastic utensils. How can one eat a bowl of hot calm chowder with a styrofoam bowl.

The idea of a pizza buffet is fun. Too bad Upper Crust does not succeed. The pizza had a strange tasting sauce. I resorted to pulling the cheese and pep off the top to eat because the crust is worse than some frozen pizzas (I would gladly choose a frozen pizza over Upper Crust). The salad was sad. sad salad. 90% soggy iceberg with a few pieces of wilted romaine topped with two huge burger-size slabs of tomato. That's it. I should have said - No thank you. I like trying new places because sometimes you find a gem. This was not one of those times.

Surprisingly decent pizza buffet. I did a work event downtown on a Sunday, and everything seemed like it was closed. I didn't WANT pizza, but I'd been here before, recall it being pretty okay, and it was really my only option. Though the selection wasn't great and they should have brought out new pizzas more often, the pizza was fresh and pretty tasty. Nothing too special, and the sauce was a little bland, but not a bottom-dweller by any means. A little more zip to the sauce and a little more variety on the pizzas and this would be a winner.

Was on an excursion downtown about 3 weeks ago. Needed something quick and happen to find Upper Crust. I thought about the buffet but decided against being I was on a time limit. Ended up just getting grabbing a slice. It was pretty good. I want to go back and try out a sandwich I saw someone else order. Good place for a downtown work group to go at lunch time ;-)

Omg took my special education ILS class here. Yes they might be a little slow to eat but they asked us to leave before all the kids were done. The owner said she didn't mean to be rude but she need the space . Ummm ..... There were still tables and we were paying customers. Wow

They advertise free delivery for orders over $10 in downtown/midtown area. They would not deliver to N &15th? That's barely 5 blocks away. Common man. If you cannot deliver, do not advertise it.

Was not very impressed with the food. I chose the buffet for $8.00. The pasta tasted almost like they had put horseradish in it and was not at the requisite 140F. The pizza had the same strange marinara sauce that the pasta had which overpowered the toppings. The blue cheese dressing tasted sour. Over all the food was not very good. Although the potato salad was good.

The food is good - nothing bad, nothing outstanding. The customer service is what kicks this up to a solid 4 almost 5 stars. Big smiles. Kind words. Good jokes. Open Saturday afternoon when there are VERY few options around the convention center for a quick bite. Awesome prices - 2 topping 'mini' pizza (more than enough for one person) for about $7. Add in a soda with unlimited refills and you're set. We got cheese sticks also and with only 2 of us it was WAY too much. They were served with Ranch and Marinara sauce which was delicious but just too big to even put a dent in. Great price, great location and above all, awesome, sweet customer service.

I was walking along The Kay, not certain of what I wanted for lunch, when I spotted Upper Crust. It had a great mix of people including Sacramento Police digging into the lunch buffet. I also had the buffet. It was quick, stocked, and easy to access. Several pizza choices, pizza bread, and a more than adequate salad bar. I did not try the soup or the pasta. Price was more than fair. The staff are friendly... lively even. Although I'm not a fan of the styrofoam bowl and plate; it did serve its purpose. Dining area had lots of windows: great for people watching. Staff offered to help a man in a wheelchair access the buffet. Strange that they didn't offer to help the mom with 2 toddlers access it. Her hands were full. Also, I don't recall seeing a booster seat for the kidlets; they were on their knees upon a chair, trying to get to their food. I'll be back.

This is currently my kid's favorite pizza place. We discovered it during the SacAnime Summer Con. We were pretty hungry and didn't want to have to walk too far from the convention center (he was wearing a really elaborate costume and it was just too hot). So we walked past all the places that were uber super crowded and found Upper Crust right there on K. Pinching our pennies for goodies inside the con, the pizza slice deal (like $2.50 or something per slice) seemed just right for us. It was cool because we got to choose our pizza from the buffet instead of having some soggy piece reheated for us like many other "by the slice" places. It wasn't my most favorite pizza, but it was good enough that when my son asked to go back for lunch the next day I said yes. And when he asked if we could go there again a couple weeks ago for his birthday dinner with grandma I said yes again. This time we splurged and got the buffet. The salad bar was pretty basic, but all fresh. I didn't care for the soup... it tasted like Progresso. I didn't really go there for the soup anyway.

$8 for all you can eat salad, pizza, and one kind of soup. Don't expect fancy cuz it's not. It feels like a cafeteria actually. Go on a day they have the tomato soup b/c it's bomb. The chicken tortilla soup not so much. The salad bar is really basic (it's not souplantation) but the ingredients are clean and fresh and sufficiently varied to custom make a salad the way you like. Bright crisp cold romaine, cherry tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, black olives, peppercinis, bell peppers, onions, egg, cheese, croutons. dressings include your basics too: ranch, a solid balsamic vinaigrette, 1000 island. and 3 or 4 different types of pizza which are pre-tty good considering. somewhere between pizza hut and dominos.

Walked in to grab a turkey & cheese sandwich. Not bad - better than Subway. They warm up their sandwiches, which is nice, and each comes with a bag of chips. Many folks were flocking in to circulate the buffet bar, consisting of salads, soups and a few types of pizza. The place must be doing fairly well. SUM: 3 stars for the friendly service, cheap food and its great location facing the IMAX theatre.

I only go for the lunch buffet, it's hard to find lunch for $8 downtown. The pizza isn't very good but the salad bar makes up for it. I always take my pizza plate and fill it with salad, afterward if I have room for pizza I go for the pizza.

Upper Crust has slowly been working it's way into my lunch-time rotation during the workweek. There are two things I generally believe are impossible to screw up, and one of them is pizza. Well, Upper Crust certainly holds true to this belief. Their pizza won't blow you away, but for an all-you-can-eat buffet it's certainly worth the occasional trip when you get a craving. For about $11.95, you can eat all the pizza, salad, and soup that you desire. They generally have 3-4 pizzas out at a time, and it seems the most popular ones are the standard cheese, pepperoni, and then a veggie pizza and some other meat lovers one. The salad bar is alright. You have a few big bowls with lettuce, and then the usual assortment of toppings, including carrots, various beans, broccoli, etc etc. They have about 6 or 7 kinds of dressing, so you should be able to get whatever you want. Despite all the windows, it seems to get a little bit dark in the non-summer months inside. I haven't had any bad experiences regarding staff being lazy or 'weird'. I'm an environmentally conscious person, so I wish they didn't use so much Styrofoam. But given that there aren't really many all-you-can-eat options downtown, this is worth the occasional trip!

My daughter loves musical theatre and we had tickets to see Legally Blonde, the Musical close by. We were meeting a couple of friends from out of the area for lunch before the play and since we had limited time and were in an area that mostly caters to the M-F and evening crowds, we ended up here. Friends ordered a calzone to share and each had a salad from the salad bar. My family all did the pizza/salad/soup buffet. For the three of us, lunch was only $27.00 including drinks which we deemed reasonable. The pizza itself was fine-nothing special and we have all had both better and worse. The salad bar was the same-nothing special but had fresh stuff on it and was constantly replenished. I can't say I would come back here on purpose, but it was good for what it was.

In response to Angie T, regarding my previous review. I was not looking for a suggestion. But the fact that I got a response January 2012 and I wrote the review in July 2011 says a lot about how you represent your business. You have to take the good with the bad when someone reviews your business. I meant what I said. I did not ask for my money back because it was pizza and not a Steak House. I gave my honest review. Don't tell me I could of asked for my money back. I know that is always an option. So I guess it would of been better for me to say "this place has nasty ass pizza but hey I did get my money back". It does not changed the fact it was nasty. Remember this is called Yelp. Real Reviews. Real people.

Upper Crust Pizza is easily one of my favorite places to come for lunch during the work week. How can you deny an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet for $7.75?!?! What's even better is if you're not feeling the pepperoni, Hawaiian, combo, or veggie pizzas that they normally have out, you can request one to be made just the way you like. I haven't done this yet, but an all meat pizza covered with onions and mushrooms sounds like something I want them to make! Now to me, pizza is pizza, so I'm not one to choose favorites and rank UCP's pizza on my 'Favorite Pizzas' list, but I would say that their pizza is really good. Then again, for a lunch buffet, you don't really expect the best of the best or the crème de la crème, you just want something to fill that void and stuff that craving. Their crust isn't as hard as some other pizzerias. They're always topped off with just enough toppings and they're always cheesy. As soon as one pizza pan is starting to run low, staff is always quick to replace with another fresh out of the oven. The slices they make are pretty big, too. So for an all-you-can-eat, you might just be able to eat 3-4 and then you're ready for a nap back at your cubicle. The all-you-can-eat buffet also includes salad, soup, and sometimes pasta. Their salad bar is full of different choices. You can choose between spinach or romaine for your greens, tons of different toppings, and many different dressings. Everything always tastes fresh and I have yet to have a bad salad. As far as the soup and pasta goes, I haven't had tried them, but I'm sure they'd be good, too. The only thing I don't get they give you a Styrofoam plate and bowl, but on the counter where the pizzas are, they have another set of paper plates out. There's a note next to it that tells you to use that plate when you go up for your second round. Now I haven't been there in a few weeks, but last time I was there, I saw this. Always thought it was odd, but I don't know they're still putting that out there. All in all, Upper Crust Pizza is definitely a place to consider for your lunch time during the work week. For $7.75, you can eat all the pizza, salad, soup, and pasta you want and they always keep things coming out. Dammit.............I shouldn't have written this right before lunch time. Pizza craving has activated......

One big MINUS- Unless it's some special bio-degradable kind, I really frown upon using styrofoam and plastic utensils. Why not paper plates and real forks? Would that really break the bank? BUT- The pizza was actually really tasty. I'm very picky about pizza. For a lunch special it's fine, but I wouldn't put it in the excellent category, like I do Pizza Rock's pizza. Shoot- if you're in healthy mode, you could just get salad, at that price. Everything was really fresh the day I was there. The only extra item I would've liked to see would be black olives. big PLUS, outdoor seating. I originally didn't want to go because the weather was beautiful and didn't want to sit in an overly air-conditioned building. Since I live in the neighborhood, I will frequent this business because they are open after work hours and on weekends. Not alot of places do that on the downtown part of K St.

The employees were very courteous, but the cheese on the pizza had no flavor, and they use the sauce from the pasta as the pizza sauce. There are better pizza places in this city.

I came upon this place while on lunch from jury duty. The staff at the counter was SUPER friendly and nice - kudos for that. I ordered the salad and pizza buffet. The salad bar was good - food seemed fresh and there were plenty of options to select from. The pizza, on the other hand, not so good. It sat in a pool of grease (and was fairly freshly set out on the buffet, too - it wasn't sitting there very long at all), the dough was very flimsy and greasy, and the sauce was very sweet - too sweet for my tastes. I scraped most of it off. I'm a huge pizza fan, who normally scarfs on pizza as if it's my last meal on earth. I couldn't get through two pieces here, it was terrible. I tried the bread sticks - flavorful but I couldn't eat much. I could wring the grease out of them - it literally dripped off. I see this place has great reviews so maybe I caught them on a bad day? I don't see myself going back, though - way too greasy.

The pizza here is good and cheap. I came here recently with a large group and was pretty impressed with the taste. I guess I judged a book by its cover since there was no outside signage and it looked a little sketch. But since I work so close, I am going to have to come by for lunch or pick up a pizza for dinner in the near future.

We wanted something quick and cheap after going to IMAX (and blowing all of our money on that, lol), and Upper Crust across the street appeared to fit the bill. We ordered a medium pizza and a salad bar to split between the two of us. Initially we sat by the window, but it was absolutely FREEZING. no wonder the few other people in the restaurant were all sitting in the same warm section of the restaurant by the salad bar! We moved over and were more comfortable. Upper Crust was a pretty typical looking pizzeria outside of the cold temperatures. The food wasn't anything to write home about, but the pizza was ready in a reasonable amount of time and was good enough if nothing really delicious. The salad bar was similarly "eh" decent. The guys who were working were super chill. They accomodated all of our requests and was fast with the free refills when we brought them up. I liked the vibe they gave Upper Crust. This is really more of a lunch place than a dinner place, but I'll keep it in mind in the future as a quick and cheap lunch stop in Downtown Sac.

Pizza was fresh and tasty. The slices were cut large, so you get a nice wedge of pizza. They had a veggie pie out, as well as combination, hawaiian, and pepperoni. The soup of the day was chicken noodle, there was a fairly extensive salad bar, and pasta curlys with marinara sauce stewing away in a warmer. Everything was okay. Nothing stood out, but for an all you can eat buffet under 8 dollars it was pretty good. I would recommend for a cheap quick lunch.

Another frequented place during Youth & Government conferences. This place is okay. The all-you-can-eat with a drink with $9 is okay. The soup is good. The salad bar's a'ight. The pizza is thin crust and typical but not like I'll-do-whatever-you-want-if-you-get-me-some-Upper-Crust or anything. The lady at the register was nice and laughed at my jokes. Not sure if she remembered me though as I used the same joke twice, but I'll chalk that up to the influx of over 2000 people during that time. Oh, and this is my teenage immaturity poking through, but you have to look more closely at the logo.

This was an unfortunate experience. My gf and I waited in a long line for about 30 min. I ordered two slices of cheese pizza, which is on the menu for $2.50 ish each. The guy at the counter said they don't do orders that way, that normally they do a buffet and that's how I have to get my slices (but the buffet is $10 and ordering by the slice is on the menu!!). He said that they'd do it anyway and call my order by name and it should be ready in about 6 min. About 15 min later a cheese pizza was put out at the buffet, so I grabbed my slices. I tried to just let a female coworker politely know what happened as we were leaving. The male coworker who took my order asked what I was talking about (I never mentioned or motioned who I was talking about). She rolled her eyes and rudely asked me what I was talking about. I tried to politely repeat myself. She rudely told me that he never would've said that so that never happened. She wasnt even there! My gf reiterated that that was exactly what we were told. But the lady remained steadfast in her rudeness and unrelenting attitude. Foods ok but is completely overshadowed by their service and disrespect towards their paying customers. Someone from the company will probably now sign online and argue with my review.

Just an update to my previous review. I wouldn't have even though of going to Upper Crust Pizza on a Sunday, because I've found most of the restaurants that cater to the state workers near the capitol are closed on weekend. But because another pizza place on 16th near Broadway wasn't offering their advertised deal, I though I'd give Upper Crust Pizza a call. I'm glad I called, because they are open on weekends and were very busy. UCP is one of my favorite pizza places and I like their salad bar. I'll be coming back on weekends more often when I'm in the area. If you're thinking of coming by car, parking can be a problem. On Sunday the parking around Capitol Park is free, but crowed - I had to walk a couple of blocks from where I parked. No worries, I need the exercise.

It reminds me of Costco pizza. I like Costco pizza, nothing fancy but dependable and cheap. I always just get a slice of pizza for like $2.50. It's the cost of a frozen dinner, and it tastes better! If I eat it along with a pear or something it tides me comfortable over until dinner time.

This place is gross....the pizza tastes like its frozen and from a box and the salad bar is limited. You each off styrofoam plates and bowls and they only have plastic utensils...it's about the same price as round table and I wish I was there now. Also the creepy staff has you come behind the counter because they are to lazy to get your soda refill. Stay away!!

I had a conference over the weekend. Not knowing if this place was going to be a good eatery a friend of mine and I went in and got blown away with outstanding service and delicious food. An older lady was so welcoming she reminded me of a "Motherly" type who expressed appreciation that we stopped in to try the place. The price for the "All You Can Eat Buffet Pizza, Pasta, & Salad...very worth it.

Still in town for the convention, and hungry around lunchtime again. Too bad there isn't much choice in Sunday afternoon fare downtown. I was worried that the pizza would suck or something, but when there's not much choice you eat what you can find. The lady behind the counter welcomed me with a smile. I ordered a small ham and pineapple pizza and then she showed me how big it was - better order a mini instead! The mini and a coke came to $8 and some change. I sat at my table, pulled out my book and felt someone staring at me. I looked around and there was some creepy homeless guy sitting on their patio furniture making weird faces and staring at me. Ugh. The lady behind the counter noticed too. I overheard her say to one of the other staff that he can get belligerent. She called the cops and he was escorted away a few minutes later. My pizza was good. It was like someone made a pizza crust, put a little bit of tomato sauce, a tiny bit of cheese and then covered it in huge slices of ham and pineapple. Good stuff. I'd eat here again!

My friend had a BOGO coupon from the Entertainment Book & we wanted to order some take-out on a Friday night. I called to order & the guy told me that they were closing early because it was slow. I couldn't believe it! Closing early on a Friday night? Weird. He asked how long it would take us to get there & after we told him we were close he begrudgingly said "Well, I guess I can turn the oven back on." Gee, thanks. We ordered a creamy pesto & a vegetarian pizza. My friend said when she went to pick it up the guy asked her if she was there for take-out, she said she was & the guy goes "Good, because if you weren't I was going to tell you that you can't come in." LOL! Despite all of that, the pizza was hella good! I don't even know which one was better, the sauce on both was tasty & the toppings were fresh & plentiful. The crust held up to the toppings & had good flavor. The ranch was even good! Better yet, with the coupon it was cheap. I had no idea this place had a buffet! It sounds like the buffet here is inexpensive & pretty good! I'm not very likely to try it because I'm almost never in the area, but if I were I would definitely give it a shot. I did have a tummy ache afterwards, but I think was due to the amount of pizza I ate lol. I'd be down to eat pizza from here again for sure!

There is nothing better than paying a small price and getting all the food you can eat! The pizza is actually very good. The salad bar is also clean, fresh, and well stocked. There is usually a pasta dish and soup also available, but with the large selection of fresh pizzas they keep popping out I rarely make it past the salad bar. This isn't high end chicago pizza. But if you are down for a casual dining experience with endless pizza for a small price, then this is your spot!!

Upper Crust is the epitome of a three-star joint - and I mean that in a good way. You probably wouldn't bring your out-of-town friends here, I mean, pizza & salad are pretty ubiquitous, but once in a while our office makes a short walk over and we're always happy, not to mention STUFFED. Order the all-you-can-eat buffet, and you'll feel the same way, I'm quite sure. There're usually at least 5-6 different kinds of 'pie' to choose from, with two or three new varieties by the time you come back for seconds. The salad bar is pretty well stocked; so it's easy to get your $'s worth here. I recommend eating outside on the patio, under the awesome Chinese maple trees, across from the IMAX theater, watching the downtown crowd wisp back and forth. Definitely A-OK

I was here about 5 years ago and totally forgot it existed until I was at the convention center on Sunday and Subway was closed, so I stumbled into again, and I'm glad I did. It totally hit the spot. $7.75 you get their soup, pizza and salad buffet. That alone gets them 4 stars, and really, the pizza isn't bad, the soup is good, and the salad is alright. The people working there are nice as can be, and I really have no complaints. I'll definitely be checking them out at some point in the future, and you should too.

It's probably a good thing that downtown doesn't have a down home, smack-you-in-the-ass-good pizza place. During my contiguous stints within three blocks of the capitol, I relied on Upper Crust to satisfy the occasional pizza craving without letting it become an addiction. You'd think there was some law out there that you can't serve pizza during lunch without having a buffet. I initially got tricked into this reverie of unlimited slices, soup, and salads, but I soon realized that with a soda, not only did this tear a hole in my wallet, but it was way too much food. Soon, I became wise to this and opted for this exact order: one slice, one side salad, soda - done. It ended up being a perfect lunch, for less than I'd usually spend at, say, Ambrosia. Then I took this one step further. Upper Crust has an above-average salad bar, with a few extra things your don't get at the usual pizza place salad bar, like mandarin oranges and whatnot. The guy at the counter would give me a Styrofoam plate for my slice and a tiny bowl for my salad. Rather than use the bowl for my salad, I just used my plate. It made it so much easier to pile all kinds of salad goodies for myself without the cottage cheese touching the honey dijon dressing! The workers never seemed to mind, and I saved them a few cents by not using the Styrofoam bowl. It's that kind of laid-back spirit that made me happy to come back. Thank you, Upper Crust, for letting me exercise my cheap-bastardness.

Simply put, pizza was pretty unimpressive. No real comments one way or another...it's just pizza. Not to thick, thin, and no real topping or style that stands out in my head. Setup is pretty nice, the "pizza bar" is a good way to get some variety in you, and if you want their pizza that's the way to go. The real reason for the good review and 4 stars...the tuna. The hot tuna sandwich with mozzarella cheese is fantastic. The only issue on this sandwich, is that when they're really busy it doesn't feel like it was cooked quite enough, so you only get a slightly warmed sandwich. Still, service is fast, and this is a regular stop-off for my fiance on her lunch hour. Good place to grab a bite with no real complaints on service or food.

On our way to a presentation at the Memorial Auditorium, my friend was starving so he jumped in and purchased a slice of the pepperoni pizza. Not bad crust, thick and cheesy, although I found the middle to be a bit doughy. But he ate the entire thing and it was so perfect, he was sleeping through the speech. Cheap, fast and efficient staff. Perfect place to grab a quick lunch or snack.

I have been to Upper Crust Pizza before and have always been pretty satisfied - but not today. I went in intending to get a salad, but ended up ordering the baked mixed cheese sandwich instead because I thought the price for the single serving salad to go (from the salad bar) was a little steep given that the container was pretty small. I realized this wasn't going to be a grilled cheese sandwich as it was labeled a baked sandwich, but I was pretty shocked with what I received for the $7+ price tag. The sandwich was basically your VERY standard sandwich roll filled with a horrible mix of fake cheeses. The menu listed the cheeses and I can't remember what they are now, but I recognized American cheese, a very stringy and chewy cheddar, and something like the consistency of the cheese you find in a Stouffers macaroni and cheese dinner. It didn't taste very good, but even worse was the fact that it was so gooey and stringy (and not in a good way) that I felt like I was going to choke my first bite. Needless to say I threw it away after this. I think what annoyed me the most was that I paid so much for this sandwich when the ingredients were clearly very, very inexpensive. This sandwich was the same price as all the others that include meat and other more specialty ingredients so I guess I figured they might put some higher quality ingredients on it to justify the cost. It really should be at more like a $4-5 price tag if they keep using the same low cost ingredients - but regardless it is just not a good sandwich at all and I would never order it again. There are plenty of really good sandwich places around this restaurant that have a similar price point. I know they aren't focusing on the sandwiches here, as it is a pizza place, but they should be a little embarrassed about this sandwich. It was pretty much a waste of a lunch and money and I am questioning whether I'll go back any time soon. The sandwich is one star, no question, but since I've had decent experiences in the past I am giving the restaurant two. I wanted to email the owner directly about this instead of putting it on yelp, but I couldn't find an email address anywhere on their website, so figured this was my next best way to let them know about my experience.

I was at the Convention Center this past weekend and I happened to stop by. It was the early afternoon and we had a late breakfast that kept us satisfied until now. We looked around and we all agreed that pizza would be easy, do-able, and satisfying to get us until dinner with the main group. I was definitely surprised by the little pizza joint. It was a small pizza buffet with salad bar. I only got a slice but it was quite nice to have the option of just spending a few more bucks to grab some soup, a salad, and a slice or two of pizza. The pizza was alright. I would say it was mediocre at best most likely because of the size. I suppose I'm just too used to my Berkeley and San Francisco pizza in which the slices are simply monster-sized (or at least bigger and thicker than Upper Crust's). I couldn't complain though. I loved the combo pizza, as it simply just had piles and piles of toppings. I know I never get that back home. Good stuff for a quick bite. I wouldn't make a complete meal out of it.

Mediocre pizza... i mean its ok, but nothing special at all. I've had better frozen pizza. The salad bar is very unimpressive... just iceburg lettuce and a few toppings. The only good thing is that it was relatively cheap for the salad/pizza buffet (no drink included). Maybe ordering off the menu is better.

We were in Sacramento for the day and had been wandering aimlessly around the downtown area looking for a bite to eat when we stumbled across this little place. It was pretty dead when we got there, looked like the lunch rush had just ended. The staff was friendly and the pizza was delicious! Will definitely be going back there the next time I find myself wandering around Sactown looking for a bite to eat. =)

Overall this place is pretty good although i was a little disappointed in the salad bar. The salad was very watery and didn't look appetizing. However their pizza is why i went their and it was good.

I have been to UCP 3 or 4 times in the past year, and the pizza was always good. 2 weeks ago I went with some friends at my recommendation, and the pizza was horrible. What gives? The crust was horrible--tasteless, and the toppings were not much better. New recipe, suppliers, or new cook? We will give it one more try. I think Chicago fire pizza is more consistent, and the price is not much more than UCP.

I was staying at a nearby hotel and wandered out to get something to eat. Only to find on a Saturday every place closed except Upper Crust. So I went in and decided to order a pizza. I assumed that it would be like other places that try to gyp you when it comes to the size of the pizza, so I thought I was being clever by ordering a medium pizza for myself. Oy, it was way bigger than I expected (in a good way) but I couldn't eat it all--as hard as I tried!!! The place was really busy (guess that happens when no other places are open and hungry people are meandering by) but the service was fast and friendly. I would go again if I was in the area.

I went here for a big group lunch not long ago for the first time, and I was expecting a dim Midtown pizzeria with a massive bill and mediocre food. So I was very excited to get this full lunch buffet for like $6.97. Pizza, salad bar, soup, pasta and drink all included. Where else can you get a decent buffet around here for less than $10??? I mean, the food is not going to blow you away, but it's perfectly fine and fresh and a great deal. I will be back.

I can't believe Upper Crust gets all the stars it does! Must be everyone's low expectations for good pizza on K Street. It has to be the most pedestrian pizza/salad bar lunch on the planet.

They have a lunch buffet. The pizza didn't taste very good to me. But at least they had a small salad bar. Its hard to mess up raw lettuce. I don't think I'll come back here unless my friend is treating me here again.

  • Keri B.

It's been years but back when I worked on K street this place was a life saver, they carried their lunch special into the early evening and it was nice to get a little pizza and all I could stuff into a box salad for dirt cheap esp. since post lunch K street is a freakin ghost town. The staff was always friendly and the food wasn't bad, not bad at all.

  • Julie B.

The lunch buffet is not bad. They need to add more greens to the iceberg salad lettuce and skip the spinach but the add-ons aren't bad. If you can get the pizza when it's fresh, it's worth it. I enjoy watching people from the window, which faces the convention center. It's a good restaurant for someone eating lunch alone.

I really like this place. I give the food three stars, but I am adding the extra star for my appreciation of the great deal that this place is. For the price of the all-you-can-eat, the pizza, pasta and soup are good, and I appreciate that they have a housemade balsamic dressing on their salad bar, and offer grated mozzarella, sunflower seeds, fresh watermelon, etc. I only wish they blended the iceberg lettuce with romaine. It is nice to have a place like this Downtown when you do not feel like being in a pretentious overpriced place where you have to leave a tip the amount of what an entire meal at Upper Crust costs.

Alisha and I decided last minute to have lunch. She wanted pizza and since I ate my lunch for breakfast, I wanted lunch. So we met at Upper Crust Pizza. And all I can say is skip the salad and plan on eating pepperoni pizza. They do have other options but the only seem to crank out the pepperoni pizza regularly for the buffett. The pizza is okay. Could fill a craving but isn't stellar. I am still in search of stellar pizza in Sacramento.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
