Ever felt the munchies come on at 12 am and you rummage thru your fridge to find NOTHING? Well...nothing enticing hehe. So my brother in-law says HAY! I know of a place and their open right NOW! So first thing I ask is what do they serve since it's so late...like 2 day old mircowaved chicken drenched in sweet n sour sauce?!? Cuz ya know, when you eat at some chinese places in the evening hours, thats the quality ya get..hehe --- Brother says this place is Korean! I'm like, strange, I never ate korean before! Sure thing! Bring it on! Shoot im starving! We got there and i noticed this joint looks like a hole in the wall but cozy and I try to ignore the bar next door and it's all good. Nice cozy lighting..cuz you know at this time of the night, you don't want people starin at you when you walk in with your midnight face, yall know what Im talkin about. The seatings are in booths so it's quite comfortable. We ordred the seafood tofu soup, fried spicy chicken, black berry wine, kimchi vermicilli noodle and korean vegetable pancake.....i dunno about everyone who ate here and what their reactions were..but i felt like I have sinned and got away with it. Delicious Korean food, found at this time of the morning and a place where I can't even find on the map (I'm not from sacramento) -what a gift to give me. Thank you Sarang Bang! Everything was cooked to perfection. Not a dry or overspiced plate to be found. That old lady is a korean master chef with a black belt in cooking. Great cheap price for this place honestly...please do not change it!!!! I'll be back many times, so i'll wear a disguise each time hehe.

It's open until 2am which is a plus! I have been here 3 times and it's a place I enjoy despite the poor service. The moment you walk in the waitress gives you the choice of your seat. This is a small place with about 10 booths, but each booth is divided with thin wooden walls providing privacy to each table--Very hole-in-the-wall type. It can get really crowded, as it is a popular spot after 10pm. Instead of water, they serve some type korean iced tea (not sure of the name). If you prefer to drink soda, they only serve canned sodas. The soju is cheap, and one bottle is enough to share with another person! They also serve a variety of minnie plates with several different pickled veggies. I really liked the sauce in the broccoli (some type of mustard-like wasabi sauce). On different visits, I've ordered their spicy chicken, bugogi, chimchi fried rice, and seafood chimchi che gue. I've ordered the spicy chicken with the sauce on the side so that I can control the amount of sauce on my chicken and for the same reason I also like to dip the bulgogi in the sauce--delicious! Everything I've tried is GOOOD! The spices are just right and not too sweet like some places. I really enjoy the food here as it taste more homemade. The service could use some improvement. If you need refills, you will have to inform them otherwise they will not approach your table. Once your food has been served, they will not return unless you request for them. Honestly, I really don't mind. As mentioned the place is small, you can easily wave them over if needed. My friends and I enjoyed the food and were able to just hang out wtihout feeling rushed. The good thing about this place is once your seated you feel no rush to leave; the downside is if you're waiting to be seated it could take awhile! No bill is ever brought to your table, you are to pay at the register.

Has a hole in the wall feel, but pretty good food. You'd miss it if you were just driving by. Even though their menu options are limited and the service is pretty slow, the food is pretty good! So, I give it a 4. :) Food wins over the slow service. The serving size is pretty good for the price. Also, korean food can be pretty pricey with all the sides but this place is decently priced.

An old style restaurant, kind of hidden away, but great foods. The soon dubu is really tasty as pretty much everything else. The place is authentic Korean and I wish it were closer to home (nothing Korean in my neck of the woods). Writing this review makes me want some great Korean food!

I go here at least once a week. They're open late and they have good Korean food. The ladies are nice and I also like Korean liquer, Soju.

Okay quality for Sac. 2 stars in comparison to KTown in LA.

This is my favorite Korean restaurant in town. It's as close to authentic Korean food as i can get. I like an assortment of things they have as i have tried nearly the full menu already. My favorites are the seafood pancake, the tofu soup, the bee bim bop, their assortment of kimchis, their crispy chicken, and their beef. The service is ok as they usually only have two people serviing but they are nice people. I have been asked to leave before because they were really busy but besides that, i frequent the restaurant.

Spicy chicken, seafood pancake, and spicy tofu soup always make me crave this place...the drive from Elk Grove is definitely worth it, and I prefer this place over Elk Grove Tofu House. So damn good and it's opened late.

Been wanting to come here for da longest time...finally found an excuse to come. I was drag here by friends. The atmosphere was a typical korean place...very authentic. Service was decent. Food was great! I recommend the pork belly with oyster kimchi cold salad. Fried crispy chicken was so ono! Food was tasty and fresh. Too bad not open for lunch :(

this place is ok when i walked in there was no greet but asked if togo or dine in and the lady just pointed the table direction and i sat down. then they were busy watching the tv and kind of ignored me and got to me in 10 mins and asked what i like to order. i tried the spicy seafood soft tofu soup when the soup came out they asked if i wanted rice and i said yes. then they gave me some ban chans in a square plate but divided in 4 sections with skimpy portions which i was like wow so small and not satisfy. they gave me a few slices of kimchi and bean sprouts and some other stuff with it. the ban chans here is not good if you like them a lot like i do. however the soup was good and the tofu was fresh and soft and silky. they also gave a lot of veggies in the soup, i ate a lot of zucchini which i loved. also on the bottom of the bowl there was a lot of mussels and octopus which i liked too. so the soup was a plus and they put and egg in it too. oh the rice was mixed and looked purple and i liked that too because it was different and i believe it is a bit more healthy than the white steam rice. there was no check up or anything. after i was done eating they gave me a ticket and i just went straight to the register and pay them because they were too busy watching tv. since i really like ban chains and this place ban chains was the worst like with skimpy portions and not a lot of variety i probably won't be back. i prefer yd tofu house because they give me 15 different kinds even if it was by myself ordering a soup. oh and mo du rang banchans still can't beat yd house but mo du range banchans is better that sa rang bang.

The spot has a very intimate atmosphere. In some ways it reminds me of going to school downtown on 12 street and hitting a restaurant for dim sum with some of my friends after school. There is writing on the walls which adds to the local flavor I thought was nice it was a very neighborhood type restaurant. This was the first time I ever have been told from any restaurant I was too round eye to have something on the menu. I wasn't insulted in the slightest it was actually kind of funny. I figured pork small ribs and potatoes how can you go wrong ha ha. The waitress even brought by another person to explain to me why I wanted like it. I was satisfied with her answer and went with something a little more unadventurous. We ended up getting the seafood pancake which was pretty good it was like a seafood egg foo yong that was super tasty. I have the bulgogi which was fantastic. We ordered a bunch of different items off the menu including the kimchi fried rice, the BimBop ... And some steamed potsticker like things that I forgot what they were called. Overall I was really satisfied with the spot. Definitely a good find.

Out of all the places in Sacramento that are open late, this one rocks it. I mean come on? Open till 2am? You got to love that. The food is awesome. Other than that, well, I hate to be "racist" but, the service sucks. It's as if they really treat Korean guests with more hospitality. The rock hardwood booths can be a little uncomfortable as well as the limited seating and also very few condiment to compliment the meal as opposed to other restaurants.

This place is actually my favorite spot to hit up in Sacramento when I have a Korean food craving. Having lived in LA for over four years, I was accustomed to having so many Korean places to go to, so moving back to Sacramento initially felt underwhelming. Aside from the slightly higher prices (which I would expect from most Korean restaurants not offering AYCE bbq), this place makes up for the lack of better Korean restaurants in the area. When I first went, their service was pretty slow and one of my friends had to actually go up to the server to let her know we were ready to order. However, the next couple times I've went recently, their service was spot on so I think they've improved in their service. Things I've ordered and loved: 1) Bulgolgi: super flavorful (they have a great marinade), tender, and sizzling hot when served. 2) Spicy Seafood Soft Tofu soup: plentiful amounts of seafood which include: mussels, calamari, shrimp. I like my food spicy, so this had the perfect amount of spice. Those who have milder tolerances might find this a bit too spicy. It's really comforting to eat and the soft boiled egg that they crack in the beginning right in front of you into the bowl completes it. +++the mixed, brown rice that they serve is so much better than the standard white rice I get at other restaurants. The texture and flavor is the perfect accompaniment to any of their dishes. Along with their roasted rice / barley water that they serve as a beverage. It's really refreshing/addicting. Things I've ordered and felt mixed about: 1) Spicy Fried Chicken: I really wanted to like this because I was excited to hear Spicy and Fried Chicken in one. However, I think the chicken came off as more sweet than it was spicy. Maybe this time when I ordered it, it wasn't as crunchy as I had hoped it to be. I might give it another chance because I LOVED the pickled cubed radish that comes with it (I later found out that the radish is a side dish that is only offered when you order chicken). 2) Seafood pancake: The first time I ordered it, it was amazing. It was actually my favorite thing I ordered form the menu. However, the second time I ordered it, it wasn't as good. The batter was thicker, so instead of being crispy, it came across as really heavy, soggy, and oily. However, the ingredients inside still made it good. They don't skimp on the green onion and the sea food. All in all, the food and the environment is what gives me this place 4 stars. The food is great, the service improved, and the intimate dim-litted booths gives the eating experience a cozy and friendly feel. I'd definitely recommend this place to any local in Sacramento

Sarang bang is located at a ghetto ass area. But the restaurant itself is pretty good. I went there at around 9:30pm and there was no line, got seated right away. We ordered spicy soup, Korean seafood pancakes that was delicious! And spicy rice cake. My favorite was the seafood pancakes! They were so crispy and yummy. As for the service it was alright. No one really stopped by our table. There was only one waitress and she mainly stood at the front desk. It is a little bit pricy and there were only a few side dishes. I wished they gave out more side dishes because I love side dishes

I loved the pork belly with kimchi and kimchi fried rice, downsides are that too little of banchan, and service was bad. Portions are a bit too small.

I absolutely love this place. The environment is really cozy and they booths so it would be slightly more private than if there were no walls. I ordered the following: Spicy Chicken~delicious! I come back to this place just for their chicken Ramen w/ Rice Cakes~I thought it would be spicier but it had a good amount of spice. I really liked it. Seafood Pancake~Also good! It comes with a lot too. Kimchi Fried Rice~Nothing too extravagant but still yummy. I didn't order any rice this time but I also love their rice. It's purple rice and it just tastes good. The service this time was a lot better than the previous times I went so I was happy. The waitress did not seem irritated at all so it made my dining experience a lot better.

This is my go to spot for Korean food. It's a hole in the wall, but it's open late to satisfy my late night cravings. I love to get their #1 plate (the waitress usually helps you cook it) it consists of bulgogi and squid with veggies and a side of udon to mix in with. I also like their boiled pork veggie wrapped and their spicy fried chicken! Oh and their seafood stoned bibimbap! I want to try their other plates with ramen in there, but we always get addicted with #1 to try anything else. Maybe next time! During their busy nights service might go downhill a bit, but I've been there enough times to vouch for the staff there. They don't talk much because their English is limited, but I love how they always come over to help us cook our #1 and tell us when it's ready to eat. They usually have to walk over 3-4 times to help us finish prepping it. Also, I still remember the first time I went she recommended us to order slowly because the servings are rather large and the last time I went this week. They were all really sweet and friendly. I like the mom and pop feeling of this restaurant.

First off-- they greeted us friendly and got us seated right away. We ordered seafood pancake, hangover soup and fried chicken with sweet and spicy sauce. For drinks, we ordered peach soju and yogurt soju. All of the food came out at once, even the side dishes. They should've bought out the side dish first before the main dishes. The food was good! Very delicious. When the dishes came out, I asked for extra napkins and refill on water and the waitress pretty much drop off our food and left to cater others. Felt like they are short staff or something!

It was my first time eating at this establishment in such a long time. There have been some few changes. My boyfriend and I ordered the dukboki and the pork/kimchi stir fry with tofu. For one they have increased their prices quite a bit and are pricier than most of the other Korean restaurants in the area. Their side dishes are quite measly for two people, and their main dish doesn't come with rice? You have to ask for it. The pork dish was quite yummy, as for the dukboki.....it had three piece of fish cake total. I don't know when they started becoming kind of stingy with their stuff lol. I'll probably stick to the likes of Mo Du Rang and YD House for my Korean fix.

Hi-ya! The place is chill and fun. The food is good and prices reasonable. It's open late and honestly if you want a place to kick it with friends and enjoy good late night food this is it.

Sarang Bang shot me in the mouth and in the stomach making me weak and wanting more. First things first, this place has horrible service, but I think the food here definitely makes up for it a lot. My friend and I came here around 7:00pm on a Friday night and we had to wait for about 45-50 minutes for a seat for two. It sucks that this place is really small and I think if this place were a bit bigger then service would be much quicker. But it might be because of the fact that the only waitress/server that night was an Asian lady who might be the owner of the place as well. I felt pretty bad for her and I give her props for serving everyone by herself, though there were a few times throughout the night where she didn't check up on us at all/forgot to get us the things we asked for. But enough with the bad service and onto the food. Looking at what the Yelpers recommended through the tips, reviews, and pictures, my friend and I ended up ordering three dishes: spicy chicken, seafood pancake, and the bulgogi. Our meal also came with 4 side dishes and purple rice. Spicy Chicken (12)- Oh god...these wings were de-li-cious! Juicy and a blast full of flavor; this is by far my favorite dish. My friend doesn't like spicy food at all but these wings weren't spicy and she ended up loving the chicken. Seafood Pancake ($13)- A different type of pancake than what I usually have because it was very crispy but I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely the right amount of flavor; crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The sauce that comes with the pancake compliments it really well. Bulgogi ($12)- Tender meat and marinated in the right amount of sauce; not too much and not too little. Another dish I really recommend to have at Sarang Bang. Though service is terrible here, I think it was worth the wait but probably not worth it if you are literally starving and are impatient. My cravings for Korean food were satisfied more than I expected and I'm glad I came here. I recommend this place for those who haven't been here or if you just want some good Korean food. I just hope you are ready to be willing to wait for a seat for a while. I actually suggest you come here for a very late dinner since it got less crowded after 8:00pm on Friday. Good thing this place is open til 2:00am from Monday to Saturday and 12:00am on Sundays! TLDR; horrible service but great Korean food. Get the spicy chicken!! It's to die for!

I enjoyed Sa Rang Bang's Soju, pot stickers and seafood plate. It was my first time trying Soju and the seafood pancake and I really liked them both. We got the peach Soju and the strawberry Soju. I am not a fan of the strawberry Soju because it reminded me of medicine but we loved the peach so much that we ordered two rounds! I am intrigued by the fact that they have yogurt Soju. I will be back to try that! For those of you who do not know, Soju is Korean alcohol. (I just learned this myself upon entering Sa Rang Bang!) By looking that their menu there are so many Soju flavors. I am looking forward to coming back and trying the mango. From what I saw on the menu there are many options and the prices are reasonable because you get a lot of food. This place is small, therefore the parking is limited. If you cannot park right out front you can park on the street. I can't wait to come back and try more food and more flavors of Soju!

This place is TINY! Food was ok.....tofu soup was missing some key flavors....but the pork belly with tofu and kimchi was worth the visit alone! That was the best dish for sure! I was disappointed by their lack of banchan.....only 6 (fish cake, broccoli, preserved bean, cucumber, sprouts and kimchi)...the purple rice was a nice change, though. Overall I prefer YD House off Folsom. (Also I find their $20 minimum card charge too high IMO- we couldn't split out dinner tab cuz of this).

This is one of those restaurants you go into expecting horrible service and amazing food! When you first pull up to the dingy strip mall, you see covered windows and shaded doors. Inside you find, heavily graffitied, but incredibly clean wooden booths lining the small dining room. If you arrive early (or late) enough you will be lucky to get immediate seating. But don't let that fool you, it will be some time before you get to order or even get a bit of that yummy roasted corn water. I usually order 3 or 4 of the same handful of dishes. We always order spicy chicken. This is not the wings. I like the whole chicken. Yes it is a bit dry inside. But that works perfectly with the thick coating of spicy sauce on top and the pickled daikon that comes with it. We also get the spicy cold soba noodles. I cannot find this dish anywhere else. It chewy and slick like yam or glass noodles, and filled with all kinds of flavors. But they make horrible leftovers. If you eat these the next day they will be mushy. The seafood pancake is decent, but with the dipping sauce it come with- outstanding! And we always order side pork, octopus, or squid with spicy vegetables. My favorite is the squid tentacles, since they use the long tender ones. The tofu soup and kimchee are good also, but not so hard to find that I order them every time we come here. And a side note, DO NOT TRUST THE HOURS ON YELP. They do open for dinner only, but they close at different hours. Just call and see if they are open.

The best Korean restaurant in town! (But remember this is Sacramento you're talking about) My favorite dish to order is the seafood tofu soup! YUM! I've tried other places and wasn't impressed. Other dishes are good too! Minus one star due to the customer service. The owner/workers are never happy or at least doesn't seem to be happy to see a customer. Kinda rude I must say!

One of the BEST Korean restaurants in town. My favorite things to order here are the spicy chicken wings and samgyupsal (pork belly). You get small plates of side dishes and refills on them which is always a huge plus. The wings have a great sauce on them but still manage to be cripsy when you bite into it. UH-MAZE-BALLS. Minus one star for the service. They never seem to happy to see you walk into the door which is kind of a bummer.

Sa Rang Bang is a teeny, hole-in-the-wall spot between a sketch looking liquor store and a dive bar called The Mushroom. The interior is made up of about 8 wooden booths, covered in Sharpie graffiti from frequent diners. A little dingy, but you get used to it - it's just how the place is, really. They have two TVs atop their fridge that's always playing some odd Korean shows (I always get stuck trying to figure out what's going on while I eat). The man and I dined here regularly when we lived in Elk Grove/Sacramento - the best place to eat for late night dinners (you'll probably have to stand around and wait if you're coming in late on the weekend). The ladies that work here are friendly and prompt - helpful when you ask questions. This isn't fine dining by any means, we don't expect amazing hospitality here. Our favorites: rice cake + dumpling soup, spicy chicken (sauce on side), spicy seafood tofu soup, short rib soup, and chicken gizzards. The seafood pancake and "hangover" soup is good as well, the kimchi fried rice and bulgogi are okay. We haven't ventured much around the menu yet. We're pretty stuck on the spicy chicken. So if you don't mind the personality of the place - and if you aren't looking for loud K-Pop music videos at every corner while a teenage server takes your order - this is where to go.

I've been here a few times and I haven't gotten a good experience from here. The services here needs big improvement. The last time I was there, it took them 15 mins to give our water and took about 20 mins to come get our orders. To be fair, it was dead when we were there. Only one other table was occupied so they should be more attentive to their customers since it was dead. It would be understandable if their were busy but they were not on that evening smh. Their prices went up a lot and it was already originally pretty pricey. The food is not too bad but its not worth this much in my opinion.

I will definitely be back. I can't wait to try more dishes. Food was good to great! Service was fine. I was late to dinner so I didn't order so I don't know names of dishes. Sorry! Bulgogi was excellent. I really liked the crispy seafood pancake and the soup with the small "rice cakes". I'm so happy I have a Korean restaurant so close to home. Restaurant is next to Mushroom Lounge and near gas station.

I give them three point seventy five stars. Late date night with the girlfriend, we ordered the dumpling soup, spicy cold noodles, spicy stir fry octopus. Dumpling soup needed more flavor for me, but the egg in there was yummy. Spicy cold noodles, not for me. Spicy stir fry octopus. That shit was bomb. :D Corn roasted tea- the after taste is refreshing and unique. I want s'more right now. If you're looking for an intimate hole in the wall place to eat and converse.. This is your spot. We will be coming back to try their kim chee fried rice. Oh and the service was good. She noticed that I didn't like the cold noodles and asked if something was wrong. Checked on us frequently.

Lets start with the overall picture of the restaurant. It was scary to me and 4 of my other friends since we came at midnight and everything around it was closed. From the outside, you can barely even tell the restaurant was even opened since all the lights inside were super dim. The lady greeted us to our seats (which was also very scary lol). There were writings all over the seats and the place just looks creepy overall. When the lady brought us our water, we were kind of scared to drink it since the light was so dim that we couldn't tell what color the "water" was. It had a yellowish color to it and it was warm. In one of the cups, there was a piece of corn looking object in it which made us not want to drink the "water" at all. But me being the curious person I am decided to try it and since it didn't taste like tea nor water, I stopped drinking it. Of course we could have always asked what was it, but the waitress never came back after giving us our food so... Now lets get to the food. Lets say my opinion on the food might be a little biased or skewed. Whatever floats your boat. I guess my expectations were set pretty high on the quality and taste of the food so when I actually tried it, I was disappointed. I got spicy pork with rice. The pork tasted very bland to be honest. You can taste more of the marinade than the pork itself, or not taste the pork at all. The rice was good at least... Oh yeah, the chopsticks were a little dirty, also. But with how dim the lighting is, you can't tell if you don't pay attention.

They weren't open 6pm on Sunday! Their phone was disconnected too! What else is there to say about a place that doesn't open when it's supposers to be.

I went here with my boyfriend last week around 11PM just to try it out, and I was intrigued by how rude the waitress responded when we asked for water in addition to the tea she gave us. Service was not on point, but I guess it's typical "Asian" service, and it was pretty late but still, they were open for a couple more hours. The food was alright, but tasted like a typical Korean dish. Nothing special about it.

Love the food but service is not great. They either dont have enough people on staff or they dont bother to check up on you to see if you may need more water. Best sea food pan cake tho

  • Tiffany D.

Their food is the best Korean food in the area. Love the seafood pancake, bulgogi, and the chicken! Service is slow cause it's usually just one server for the small place. Sometimes the Asian lady can be difficult to ask things for cause she seems like she doesn't want to do it lol. Other than that, we will continue to come back for the great food

One of the best Korean restaurants in Sacramento. Amazing food for a good price. My friends and I are always here for some late night Korean. Our regular orders consist of Bulgogi, Spicy chicken, seafood pancake, and the Kim chi fried rice! Definitely a place to try and it will leave you so satisfied you'll be craving for more!

Sarang Bang is, in my opinion, the best Korean restaurant in Sacramento. Period. They're tucked between a bar and a cleaners in a small residential road. It's a hidden gem (If you haven't already heard about it). They've got an extensive menu of Korean dishes, but here are my favorites at Sarang Bang (No, I don't order ALL of it every time I come!): Bulgogi: Honestly, my favorite dish here. I seriously order this by itself with a bowl of rice and I'd be golden. It's very flavorful and its probably the best bulgogi I've eaten anywhere. Yes, even better than the Korean restaurants in Korea Town in LA. This dish costs about $12. Bibimbap: Rice, sauteed vegetables, a slice of beef, fried egg and this chilli pepper paste is what consists of a bibimbap. The paste is just squeeze on top of the rice and its your job to mix the hell out of it to give the rice and other ingredients flavor. De-LIC! Seafood pancake: Perfectly made. The sauce that comes with this dish compliments the pancake very well. A "must order: appetizer that doesn't come in a very appetizer size. Spicy Seafood Soup: Even though it's a "seafood" soup, I feel like there is more tofu than seafood itself. Something that's good on a cold day to go with your other dishes. The bowl that it comes with looks small, but it can fill up 6 of those bowls they give you for the soup. The most I've paid for a meal here was $75, and the cheapest was $24. So you can imagine that it can get a bit pricey, but they do give you a lot of food and you'll walk out feeling very satisfied. The restaurant is small and they are opened late, so expect a wait!

This is a 5 star just because of its late hours. The food is decent but the service is super slow. Be prepared for a long wait so bring good company to distract you. You should try the fried chicken and kimchi fried rice.

Came here on Valentine's Day and it wasn't as packed as I thought it would be . We got sat down in about five minutes. Service was super super slow. They gave us all tea but my boyfriend wanted water also so I asked her and she was like ok give me your cup like wth why can't you just get me another cup of regular water. Bulgogi was the best. Chicken katsu was bland. Kimchi fried ride wasn't bad. Side dishes suck here, you only get 6 side dishes. Don't waste your time coming here. Same the time and money and go to pine tree, way wayy better!

I can always count on Sarang Bang to satisfy my late night cravings. The food is always good and I never leave disappointed. Must get items: - dol sot bibimbop - seafood pancake - spicy chicken - seafood tofu soup This restaurant deserves 4 stars but 1 star been knocked off due to their service. It's a hit and miss with service.

There are not many Korean places that we passed on our way back to the bay after snowboarding in Tahoe. I remember coming here to visit Davis and thought it was alright. We were seated immediately and I ordered the soft tofu soup. That was good and I didnt expect anything less because you can't really mess it up. My friend was wondering if he should get this one item off the menu but the waiter just so said no. It isnt for you and you wouldnt want it. I am not sure if that is a good thing that she was watching out for him or she was being mean for limiting his options and discriminating. I took it to be the latter and I didnt appreciate it. The meal also comes with side dishes and of course four people after a day of boarding will eat that right up. We asked for seconds and she was hesitant. Then we asked for refills on a few and she said no. Most places I have been to do not mind refilling and we did not appreciate the customer service. **TIPS** 1) Overall, I didnt dig the vibe I got from the waiter and the experience. 2) You should drive further down and just wait to grab some korean food in Davis.

The food here is amazing, even though you don't get a lot of sides like other places. But it's still filling and worth it. The lady may rush you sometimes, due to her taking all the orders, but it's worth it.

The food is soo good. They serve brown rice with you meal which is a pleasant and healthy surprise. I never really liked brown rice until I tried it here. The water is good too. Sounds WIERD but they put like a sesame flavor or something in the water and it is amazing. The food was pricey which is to be expected. Korean food is normally up there. I prefer this place over Oz because you can actually order a variety of things, you also won't get smoke in your eyes because they COOK IT FOR YOU. I do give it three stars because service was lacking, very nice but not very attentive. They only came to visit once and left us alone for the duration of the meal. I had to get up and ask for items and refills multiple times.

There is nothing worst than driving across town going to a restaurant that suppose to open, but when you arrive they closed early.

I usually don't write negative reviews but this place only deserves a 2 star if that. Food was decent I've had better and the service SUCKED. We went in with a party of 14 tonight and I will say I've never felt this upset over service. Maybe you shouldn't look like your giving attitude because we asked for more water. Smile sometimes it will help. I will never go back to this place.

My fave non-AYCE Korean spot in Sac. Get the seafood pancake, hangover soup, and kalbi!

I'm no Korean but watching all those dramas always gets me craving Korean food. There are hits and misses at this restaurant. Be smart about what you order! Their service isn't the best, the ladies at the front counter aren't the friendliest people. 1. Free roasted rice infused water. So refreshing! 2. Duk boki. Don't get it here. Their heavy sauce is extremely sweet and thick. 3. Kimchi fried rice. Standard. Can't complain :-) 4. Seafood pancake. One of the best- a must get! Not packed with vegetables but it's pan fried perfectly, crispy, and flavorful! 5. Pan fried oysters. It's a hit or miss. Sometimes the oysters aren't fresh and tastes very fishy. On good days, they taste perfect since they're dipped in egg batter before pan frying!

I come here to satisfy my cravings for Korean food and always leave with a happy belly! They give you corn(?) flavored water so don't be put off by the yellow liquid in your cup! It's actually quite refreshing and it's one of things I look forward to when I eat there. Some favorites are definitely the seafood pancake, bulgogi beef, and the spicy chicken. The seafood pancake is very crisp and the bulgogi beef is very tender and well-marinated. I usually get the spicy chicken with the sauce on the side so I can adjust my own levels of spiciness. The place itself is quite small and if you come in a large group, you may have to sit at different tables since the seating takes on a booth style type. The service is ok depending on the day really, sometimes it will be decent and sometimes practically non-existent. Often times, you will have to ask for a refill on the side dishes. Other than that, if you're looking for a place to satisfy that Korean food craving, this place is definitely worth a visit!

This is the best authentic Korean restaurant in Sacramento. I love that everything about this place is consistent. From the Seafood Pancake, to the Spicy Stir Fried Squid to the Western Fusion Spicy Chicken, I've never had a bad experience with the food. The service can be slow when they get super busy, but it's definitely worth the wait. Lack of customer service is expected when you dine at any authentic Asian restaurant, so don't take it personally. You might have to go to the front to get the server's attention if you need something, but it's not a big deal. The food here is served family style, so you might want to go with a minimum of 3 people. The last time I went there I noticed the prices went up a little, so you definitely want to go with group of people. It's better that way anyway because you'll be able to order more dishes. Writing about this place is making my mouth water. If you haven't been here yet, you MUST go! They usually open at 5pm and close late (anywhere from 12 midnight to 2am) depending on how busy they are. The hours are kind of funky, so you might want to call just to make sure they're open.

I give this place five stars for the fact that they are open late with pretty good food.. The walls are tagged up with customers artwork. Small place with a home feel to it. Great for late night chi chat with good friends. Only thing I found that I dislike was the hanging lamp that wrap a dirty/dusty ribbon, for the fear the dust will fly into to all my yummy food. Please dust!! All and all Great food tonight! I really enjoy it a lot, I will come back and ready to try something different !! Good job!!

Very poor customer service with lack of communication from this place. We came in and waited 30 minutes for a table for 4. Then a party of six came in and they decided that one of the booth clearing up was reserve for 6 only without telling us in advanced. I got so mad that I was about to throw a chair through their window when I left. However, there was no chair to be found so a window was spared. This place is always busy at night but they are always understaffed and slow. When we left I wanted throw something at their window but my cousin's car had nothing hard enough to crack their window so we left, shamefully and hungry.

I really like the food here and I go to ktown a lot. It really reminded me of the food quality and environment that ktown provides. Food: Seafood Pancake, Kimchi Chigae, bulgogi, Samgyupsal Kimchi Bokum all super good. Environment: Small and dim but I like it. It's ideal for smaller groups because you get your own booths. The waiters are nice to everyone though sometimes they're really busy because I think it's usually just one person serving the ~10 tables there. Definitely worth the drive from UC Davis. My little piece of LA in the dusty boring farmland of Davis.

If you are looking for authentic Korean food in Sac, this place is it! They have dishes I have never heard of or tried before! I got the following: #28.) Gul Bo Sam ($13.95)- boiled pork meat slice and oyster with cold vegetable spicy salad - This is a cold dish. You put a bit of everything from the platter on a lettuce wrap, then roll it up into a taco shell, and eat it. The taste is bursting with flavor in your mouth! #11.) Stir-fry Octopus With Spicy Vegetable ($10.95) - Chewy octopus mixed with warm, mediocre spicy vegetable sauce. At other Korean restaurants, I usually just get their tofu soup with a meat entree, but at this place, they have unique dishes so I stepped out of my usual Korean orders and tried different entrees! It was great! I would go here again to try more of their other dishes! This plaza is isolated from the busy part of town. It was kind of difficult to get the waiters/waitresses attention because the seats and tables are wooden booths, which you can get your privacy, but hard to get refills on tea or order more food if you wanted to. Final Say - I love their special Korean food they offer here!

This is a great little place that stays open late. My wife and I will always get an order of kimchi fried rice which is excellent, and either pork katsu or the spicy chicken, either one is really good, and the purple rice is awesome.

I have heard many great things about this place and was very excited to try out this place, but boy, was I disappointed. We waited for about 15 minutes for the table. As soon as we sat down, we were rushed to order food.We ordered seafood pancake, bulgogi, their famous spicy chicken wings, and the kimchi fried rice. Let me give you guys a quick rundown of what I thought of each dish. FOOD Their pancake tasted really plain that I have to rely on the sauce that they provided for the taste. I could not taste the freshness of the seafood in the pancakes at all. The Bulgogi tasted really different from what I had before. This one does not have a hint of sweetness from my past experience. As for the spicy chicken wings, it tasted pretty decent, the spiciness of the chicken is Perf. One thing about this dish is that the chicken is pretty dry. I felt like chewing paper towel at one point. Last dish is the kimchi fried rice. Nothing seems irregular about this dish, but the taste is really bland. I have to come to conclusion that either the chef might have forgotten to put salt in all the dishes or the fact that they were rush to send out dishes to customers. SERVICE Their service is horrible. When we sat down, they gave us water that are half filled. I could not find a logical explanation to explain the above scenario. When my friend asked for the appetizers, or even just a cup of water. They responded back very rudely. I understand that they tried to rush everything out to their customers, but being impolite will not help. It l certainly should not be used as an excuse to explain why the qualities of those foods are very disappointing. TL;DR If you don't mind getting horrible customer service, and enjoy somewhat decent Korean food. This is your place. Otherwise, you are better off finding a different Korean restaurant in the area.

Pretty good! I came with a big group of friends and they were pretty nice about pushing the tables together. Food was good and our waitress was attentive. The water or tea or whatever it was that they served tasted like popcorn!

I love coming here for Korean food. It's a mom and pop restaurant with only one waitress (wife of the owner?). Their service can be slow at times but the food makes up for it. The inside can be pretty small if there's a large group. I always order their chicken with special sauce and the pork belly with vegetables.

All I can say is WOW really. So my wife, son and I wanted to try a new Korean place so after reading some of the reviews for this place we decided to go. When we got there it wasn't even busy they had a few tables open it took them about a min for them to realize that we where there after that they told us it would be a 15min wait time we where ok even though they had open tables. So after waiting for about 8min a family that looked Korean showed up, as soon as they showed up one of the lady's that worked there asked them how many and sat them down in one of the open tables that they had. I looked at my wife and was like really we've been waiting here and they get seated as soon as they got there. Is it because we're not Asian that we got discriminated against. So after being treated like that we left and went to our favorite spot the YD Restaurant were we got seated as soon as we got there. If you don't want our business all you had to do is say something. We will never come to this place again and I'll be telling everyone I know not to be going there.

The nice korean lady is always by herself with no help. Service can be slow, but she tries to be as fast as she can. She never checks up on you though. besides the service, food here is excellent, and they are open late. when i come, i usually get the seafood pancake, seafood tofu soup, bulgogi, or some rice cakes. my all time favorites. Their water is unique, some time of rice water tea. its delciious though!

The first few times I came here I wasn't too pleased. The service was bad if you didn't speak korean and the food was just alright, but people change and so does food. If you come here there are 3 things that are a must get. The seafood pancakes, the fried chicken, and the tofu stew. The seafood pancakes are unlike any that you can find elsewhere. Their secret ingredient or I should say ingredients are panko and egg. They only use a little bit of batter and fill the rest of the pancake with barely mixed egg and cover it in panko. This results in a flaky and crispy outside with a nice fried egg consistency on the inside. You just have to experience it for yourself. The fried chicken is fried well and is for the most part juicy. What makes it really shine is the sauce that it is drenched in. I would be happen with just a bowl of rice and sauce but that isn't the most healthy. It is sweet, tangy, garlicy, and adjectives that aren't in my vocabulary. If you feel like something warm, try their tofu stew. The flavors were balanced out well. You got a nice umami flavor from the broth, and a creamy texture from the tofu and egg. Make sure you get rice with this or else you won't get the full experience. The ban chan here are plentiful in variety, and depending on the waitress that day they might ask if you want refills. If you're 21+ you might want to try the flavored soju. They have mango, strawberry and peach. The soju was good and had plenty of flavor, but I can't say its the best I have ever had. If you want other liquor, they have beer, soju, and some plum wines. The service here is alright, I can't complain... that much. The old lady here seemed unfriendly years ago, but I think her English and her attitude has improved. From the items that I have had, the food will not disappoint. If anything, just come for the seafood pancakes. Warning: The spicy cold noodles can be pretty spicy. Sometimes they add a little too much gochujjang.

Been here at least a dozen times within the past year, just wanted to give an annual update. The food was particularly good in my most recent visit. The beef tofu had a lot of flavor. We had the fried chicken with sauce on the side so the skin stayed crispy. I think the order is actually a whole game hen or some sort of tiny chicken. It was a little dry, but I still liked it. My friend and I split our orders and were completely stuffed. I literally just had eaten in LA Ktown and in Santa Clara earlier in the week and was still satisfied.

Hubby and I love this place !! Hubby comes here so often the owner knows him and his friend. Food is so good, but the service sucks. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, but it is very welcoming. The owner cooks the food herself and she only has one other who helps her (other than the two who busses the table and does dishes). It's a really yummy place and I will always go back. But I wish she would hire another server because after we get our order taken, we wait for the food then she's no where to be found.

I love the food here. Their Kimchi Fried Rice is my all time fave! I've tried others around here in Sac and no one else's compares. The seafood pancake and beef bulgogi are my other go-tos. So flavorful! You don't get as much sides as other places give, but I personally don't need too many sides. I want to be able to focus on and enjoy the entrees I ordered. Nevertheless, the sides they do have are good. They're always different and I always enjoy it with my meal. The corn water they serve here is also better than the others I've tried elsewhere. I don't know what it is that makes it stand out from the rest -maybe it's more corny and refreshing? Lol- but I do like it a lot! As far as food goes, this place is a 5! But I knocked off 1 star because the service isn't up to par. The lady that's usually there tends to have a stand-offish demeanor and sometimes it takes awhile for her to check on you. It could have a lot to do with her being the only one there tho, so I try to be understanding of that. Regardless of that, I keep coming back for the delicious food!

Came here a lot when I lived in Sacramento. They are open late have have a great selection of Korean dishes. The service wasn't always up to par, but it won't stop me or any of my friends from coming here =p ... so -1 star for the service. There are only a handful of great Korean restaurants in Sac, and this is one of them.

I love the tofu soup. It was so good. I love the flavor of the spicy chicken although it was a little dry. I had a hard time eating it. It was really busy so we couldn't order the extra soup to go. It did seem like the waitress was biased towards Korean. We sat next to a bunch of Korean girls and they got more attention than us. But overall, the food was good.

Location seems kinda sketch - small place in a strip mall that could use some more light. Or maybe it's just my irrational fear of the dark getting to me. Anywho, I've been to Sarang Bang several times, and each time it delivers decent quality food and lots of good times (largely due to the soju and beer we always order). They serve your standard Korean fare and make it pretty darn well. But if you've experienced Korean food from LA you know how phenomenal the food can really be, and unfortunately Sarang Bang is not up to par. But since we're talking about Sac, and there aren't many other options in the area, Sarang Bang will be one of my go-to spots to satisfy my bulgogi and seafood pancake cravings. Seafood pancake here is really good! The dipping sauce they serve with it is addicting as well. They give you a very, VERY large serving so prepare to split it with a couple other people! The spicy rice cakes are also good here. Not the best I've ever had, but still worth ordering. What I wouldn't order from here? The tofu soup. So disappointing! I got it one time and didn't like it, and then got it again hoping that I was wrong the first time around. But alas, I have come to the conclusion that Sarang Bang can only make a bland, boring, waste-of-tummy-space tofu soup. Skip on this, and order it elsewhere. Also, why are the ladies here so skimpy on the banchan? I'm sure it's not going to cost you thaaaat much more to give me a little extra kimchee.... especially considering all the business I'm giving you in the form of several bottles of alcohol. I like how the name of the restaurant rhymes. Sarang Bang. FUN to say!

I have been to this restaurant for 5-6 years. I come for the food. My favorite dishes here are the spicy chicken, seafood pancake, den jang jigee, tofu soup, dumpling soup, and bulgogi. Other dishes are ok too( I haven't tried everything on the menu but I have tried most of them). The restaurant itself is small so it's hard to get a table for groups larger than 4. I usually come early so that I don't have to wait for a table. They are not very good at estimating when a table will be ready when they are busy and the service is worse then because usually there only one waitress. They are open late but their hours of operation are sometimes inconsistent especially around the holidays as they be be closed for vacation (it's expected since its a mom and pop place). When in doubt, I call before making the 30 min drive out to find out they are closed.

What I recommend: SEAFOOD PANCAKES & SPICY TOFU SOUP - AMAZING! 5 stars for overallllll!!

Food, I'd give it 3.5 stars. Service, I'd give it 1.5 stars. My sweetie and I came here on a Sunday night after many hours or work and holiday shopping at the outlets. We had only tacos for lunch so we were pretty hungry when we arrived. We got there a few minutes before opening. Sarang Bang opens at 6:00PM on Sundays for dinner only. When it was 6:00PM on the dot, the doors were still locked. My sweetie and I were waiting outside in the frigged cold weather making eye contact with the lady behind the counter who completely ignored us. 6:05PM, the doors were still locked. We were a little confused, not sure if YELP gave us the wrong information on hours so we continued to make eye contact with the lady who continued to ignore us. I said, "if they don't open these doors in a couple minutes (I knew they had to open at 6:00 because we saw people prepping for dinner in the kitchen), I'd rather go elsewhere and give them my money because these people obviously don't care!" My sweetie then called them (mind you we are still standing right outside the doors) and the lady picked up the phone while looking directly at him! He asked what time they open and she goes, "oh now!" and walks over to unlock the doors and turn on the OPEN sign. Man, one star off for making us wait AFTER 6:00PM when you are supposed to open at 6:00PM. Tsk tsk! We were seated and offered tea. We already knew what we wanted to order: Bulgogi and spicy tofu seafood soup and rice. While we waited for our dinner we checked out the writings on the bench we sat on. It's called the Lovers Wall where in Korea it's a tradition to leave a love note. The notes and pictures we saw were more rated R than anything else. Pretty entertaining I must say! The rest of the restaurant is pretty small. A few minutes later our dinner arrived. The bulgogi was presented in a cast iron cow skillet which I thought was cute. The kimchee sides were very small, out of all the Korean restaurants I've been to; this was the least amount of sides we given. The spicy tofu soup was also in a cast iron soup bowl, piping hot! The food was pretty good. The food was nothing spectacular really, just good Korean food that hit the spot. Beef was well marinated with good flavors that wasn't too overpowering. The tofu soup was hot, spicy and had a lot of tofu and seafood. We finished the bulgogi and sides and had left overs for the tofu soup. I probably won't come back here. Although the food was good, they lacked service. They never asked if we wanted our tea refilled and they never checked in on us. But the lady who did seat us, brought out our food and gave us our check was friendly. So I guess one star for service can go towards that.

Been here twice and I don't remember my first experience here being bad, but when I came here a couple nights ago, the service was horrible! I am very disappointed! Never coming back. The ahjumma, yes, AHJUMMA who served my group (four people, me included) was very rude and impolite. Came in, she didn't even greet, she just asked how many and then pointed to a table. We sat, and waited forever for her to take our order. I'm definitely not a fan of the drink they had, so I asked for regular water. She gave me a snobbish attitude, and even rolled her eyes then took her sweet time to bring out my regular water. Our order was taken, and for quite some time, our side dishes wasn't even served until AFTER we got all our dishes. From my experience with Korean restaurants, the side dishes are usually the first to come out! I was not very happy with how she was treating us at all... Then when it came time to pay, I wanted to pay for my own dishes but you can't use a credit card or debit unless it's $20 and up. My dishes came out to be $18, and I asked if there was a charge. If there was a charge to use the debit/credit machine, I was willing to pay it because I didn't have any cash on me. First she said yes there was a charge, and then later said "no, whole thing $20 only, no charge." I don't think she understood what I was asking but by this time I was already annoyed, so luckily my sister had cash and paid for my part. All I have to say is, the food here is okay; I've definitely had better, authentic Korean food with way better service. Maybe our waitress was just having a rough night, but that doesn't mean you take it out on your customers, especially when they're the ones who are going to tip you.

This place is different from most Korean restaurants I've been to - it doesn't have the BBQ grill at your table! I've came here multiple times and this place is always packed - probably because it's super tiny with VERY limited seating. Anyway, my hubby ordered a dish that I do not remember what it's called; refer to my photo taken. It was a clay pot that had rice, meat, and an egg on top. It was very good! I also tried their spicy chicken wings my hubby ordered that I very much despise - considering I do not like to eat spicy! The meat was very tough and chewy. Although the clay pot was great - I was super parched once I left the restaurant! I, myself am NOT a fan of heavy MSG seasoning in my food. This is the reason why I've been avoiding this place since.

My go to place if I am craving for some authentic Korean foods. They have a lot of good items but since I don't know how to read their language..but they do have English descriptions..I still ordered the same thing every time I am here. The soft seafood tofu soup, stir fry gizzards, spicy chicken, seafood pancakes, spicy rice cakes. They all very delicious. I love the booth to booth environment..more privacy to enjoy a good dinner. The lighting inside of the restaurant is very warm feeling too. I couldnt find any place that can compare to this Korean restaurant. If I do I will Def write a review about the it :)

I finally found another Korean place to frequent, yay! This place is pretty packed for a Korean place in Sacramento at night, so if you are starving be prepared for maybe a 15-20 minute wait (which isn't bad, but I'm just not used to waiting for Korean food). My favorites are the soft tofu soup, kalbi soup (I've had much better, but it's still good here), bibimbab, and chicken gizzards. Give the chicken gizzards a try, it comes with green onion and garlic, and salted garlic oil. Dip the gizzard in oil, take a little bit of green onion, and a slice of garlic and put it in you mouth. It's really good! The spicy chicken everyone raves about is good, but I wasn't a huge fan. I think the roasted chicken (ask for it whole instead of cut up, because it's dry when served cut up) is a better. It kind of tastes like a baked/fried chicken. I like the spicy sauce as a side to dip with. It was better in my opinion than covered in sauce cut up into chunks. The bulgogi is also very good here, but I am just not a huge fan of bulgogi. The banchan is standard, but still good. I do with this place served grilled kalbi though... but otherwise, this place is a very good Korean option in Sac.

I love sarangbang! My boyfriend and I are regulars here. They have the yummiest spicy/red chicken (even though it's not spicy at all) and the absolute best daikon. The pork stir fry is my new favorite! I think it uses the same sauce as the spicy chicken but it also has onions, mushrooms, and zucchini; it's delicious! (and it's not dry like the chicken can be). Their spicy tofu soup (particularly with the seafood or pork) is also good, although it can sometimes be a tiny bit bland at times. The seafood pancake and bulgogi are just decent; nothing amazing but it's not bad either. I'd also like to note that they do not serve regular water, only cold barley tea/water. Service isn't really that great; their English isn't fluent and they can be a stickler about what side dishes(banchan) you can get. I love the atmosphere/setting though; they have booths and dimmed lighting which makes it very intimate. When there are groups there it tends to get loud though. Overall, It's a nice and cozy place to eat, they also open late and don't close till pretty late which is a plus.

When I first came here, I had no clue what Korean food was. This restaurant is small. The layout of the restaurant is booth style, so it would be hard to accommodate larger groups. After coming here several times, I grew to love their Seafood Pancake. It's always a must whenever I go here. The Kimchi Fried Rice is delicious, but the portion can barely feed two people. I recently tried one of their sizzling plates b/c it looked interesting. I ordered "Bugoki" which looked like shredded meat. This plate is delicious also. But I would like to try their other sizzling plates. The only thing I dislike about this place is that you leave smelling like the Korean food. I would definitely recommend it.

I have only eaten Korean food a handful of times, and I am just beginning to think that I am not a huge fan of the cuisine itself. I don't want to punish this place because it was a pleasant experience, but I have yet to hit the place where I bite into something that is just going to blast five stars out of my eyeballs! FOOD: Spicy chicken has great flavor, but it is bone-in. I found it difficult to eat with sticks or a fork, so I ended up with two quarts of sauce all over my fingers and thumbs. We also had some Korean Pancake thing that was made with egg and veggies and came with a dipping sauce. It was a tummy filler and had a decent flavor. We had a sizzling beef dish that went awesome with rice, so that was a high point. The one dish that had me scratching my head was a sausage dish made with polska kielbasa and cabbage... I wasn't aware that I was going to find cultural fusion at an authentic hole in the wall. While confused, I still enjoyed the dish. All in all, it was a good meal, but it's not a place I am going to think about when dinner time rolls around on any given day. INSIDE: Waitress was a bit snarky, but she was prompt and efficient. The place is clean, small and quaint. When we were seated, we were served with a half glass of cold smoked/fried tea (as was somewhat explained to me), but I swear it tasted like peanut butter. After I finished it, my glass was refilled full. I guess it is an acquired taste, so they only fill the initial serving halfway. If you love Korean food, I'd say give it a try. If you're on the fence, maybe opt for something else. Three stars is best I can do.

Been going here for years. The menu isn't extensive, but plates they do serve are all really good! My personal favorites are the chicken gizzards, seafood pancake (extra crispy), kimchi fried egg (with extra egg), and the fried chicken with red sauce. The hours lend to night owls who are looking for something that's not dennys or fast food.

I love that they open until 2am on Sat!!! We had a late lunch so we were not hungry until midnight. We had the seafood tofu soup and the Bulgogi with rice. Their rice is pretty different, it seems like a mix of sticky flavored rice and steamed rice which is a pleasant surprise. Their seafood tofu soup taste the same as all the other Korean restaurants which is pretty good. Their Bulgogi is very tasty and very flavorful. My husband was a bit disappointed that they did not have the bbq spare ribs but regardless we were very full and even took left overs home. Unlike other Korean restaurants, they offer refills on the side dishes for all of them except for the squid/fish dish. The free tea that they gave us was not literally my cup of tea. It tasted weird so I got lemonade instead. Overall, we had a great experience.

I love this place ! I went here with some co-workers of mine and they've been coming to eat here for a whole. So they knew what they wanted. I didn't know anything about the place. The environment and atmosphere was great ! The staff were very friendly and sweet ! I love how in the booth there are writings and drawings all over. It was fun to read them. It kept me and my friends entertained. Oh and the good was GREAT !! Just everything was great about this place.

I have always thought this is pretty authentic and tasty Korean food, but I recently have been told otherwise by some Korean friends. So I suppose I can't really comment too much about the "authenticity," but I still love the food here at Sarang Bang. During my college days at UC Davis, I would make the 30 minute trip with friends over here when we were craving late night food since Sarang Bang would often be open until 2 AM. There is something about getting delicious, hot Korean food at 12:30 AM with friends that you simply can't beat. And of course in Davis, only fast food would be open at that hour. Now, Sarang Bang is divided into a few different booths where there are tables setup. This is not a place I would take a group of more than 8. I think a group of 4 or 5 is the ideal size. (One full car.) Their alcohol is a little overpriced, so I don't recommend drinking here. But the food is great--especially if you do it all family-style, so that everyone has a little bit of something. Of course you also get the small plates that come complimentary with the food---so you usually have about half a dozen different small dishes to snack on while you are waiting for your food, or when you get your rice. I particularly think their seafood pancake here is pretty awesome. Even though that is generally an appetizer, it could substitute and be a meal for someone, I'm sure. I would recommend 1 seafood pancake for every 4 persons to share. The neighborhood and parking lot, however, does look pretty shady and I would suggest taking your valuable out of your car and locking the doors just to be safe. I have never had a problem, but if you are arriving to Sarang Bang your first time on a late night food run....you'll get my drift. I know there are more options popping up for late night food in the Sacramento area, but Sarang Bang will always hold a place in my heart for all of the fond times with friends I shared on those late night adventures.

Bul Go Gi $12 - 3/5. Not amazing, meat a little too light handed on seasoning, but cooked just right. Rice cake with ramen $12 - 2/5. Rice cakes were not cooked in the spicy sauce, simply cooked separately and sauce spread over. Ramen was just barely overlooked.

Yummy Korean food but sucky service. The waitress does not come and check on you. You will only see her when you order and when she gives you your food/drinks. And aren't they supposed to bring the banchan (side dishes) before the rest of the food? That way, the customers will be less cranky when the food takes a while to come out. No refills offered either. Roasted Barley Tea- It took me a while to get used to this. I used to go to the convenience store next door and grab an Arizona ice tea for me to drink instead. -Dishes I don't enjoy: (Spicy) Fried Chicken- My friends like to order this but I think the chicken is dry. Fried Rice- Too healthy. The fried egg was the best part. -Dishes that are so-so: Soup(s)/ Bulgogi Seafood Pancake- It would be better if there were less green onions. -Dishes I recommend: Kimchi Fried Rice/ Chicken Gizzards/ Cold Buckwheat Noodle/ Oysters

Holy moly did this place surpass my expectations! Let's hit the key points here: 1. Relatively large portions 2. Very flavorful 3. Quick service 4. Fairly priced for portion size 5. Ban chan isn't as good as other Korean places I've been to. Main dishes are to die for though! Let's explain.. Arrived at dinner time. Got sat right away. I love how each booth is made so you can focus on just your group of company. The Waitress was helpful with the menu, and very polite. She made suggestions while also clarifying any questions I had about flavor or spice level. I ordered the spicy chicken, seafood pancake, bulgogi, miso tofu soup, and one bottle of soju. The soju and complementary ban chan came out relatively quick. I must say I was disappointed with the quality of the ban chan. It came with 6 different choices one of them being macaroni salad which wasn't to my liking. And It didn't come with japchae or the bean sprouts. Anyway.. The rest of our food came out all together relatively quick there after. The spicy chicken was very delicious. It's not just wings either, it comes with breast meat also.. Huge plus! The flavor is exquisite, it's crispy, huge in portion, and it's not too spicy in my opinion. The bulgogi was marinated well and was sizzled to a perfect temperature so that it wasn't under or over cooked. The seafood pancake gets a huge round of applause in my opinion. Huge in portion and bursting with delicious flavor. I personally like it when It's not too seafood tasting (like its fresh from the sea). Also it stayed crispy through the entire night of eating. Lastly the miso tofu soup was not a favorite of my fellow dinner eater, but I thought it was good! I found out I ordered the wrong one that was suggested to me by a friend but I still enjoyed it! All in all this place is a great experience, with very delicious and flavorful dishes that is a must try! It's just lacking the 5th star for not so good ban chan. Nonetheless, I will definitely be back with friends to enjoy more soju, delicious food, and laughter. Hooray!

Pros: -Food was very tasteful, not as sweet as other Korean restaurant. -Prices are reasonable -Steam rice is very flavorful (forgot to take a picture of it) Cons: - Banchan not much variety compare to other Korean restaurant -Food portion is a little smaller then I expected -Fried rice needed more chicken in it Overall experience is good...for sure I'll come back again!

Came here tonight around 10:40 pm with a friend. It was pretty packed, which was encouraging, but I felt sorry for the lone waitress rushing from table to table. To her credit, she was so smiley- such a nice attitude. We ordered: Beef soondobu - not the worst soondobu I've ever had, but not the best either. The broth was quite bland- neither as red nor as spicy as I would have liked. Ddukbokki - tasty; however, the sauce was on the sweeter side, and some of the rice cakes were undercooked. Kimchi pork soup - minus the pork, which mostly consisted of squares of fat and/or cartilage, this soup rocked. I wish my soondobu broth had been this good. The banchans (of which there were 6) were so-so. The kimchi tasted like it had been sitting out for a little bit, but the bean sprouts were good. I wish they'd had pickled cucumber or daikon instead of the mayo-loaded macaroni/potato salad. I'll probably try another Sac Korean restaurant before returning... P.S. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place has an interesting vibe at night. Just get you, your friends and your stuff inside.

I love this place. love it so much that i crave for it time to time. The spicy Chicken .seafood pancakes. Beef on a iron plate. Spicy tofu soup. Pork belly stir fir with veggie. There side dishes, rice and they werid barely tea. I been coming to this place for year.s. Make sure you call tho if your planning to come late nite. If they are not busy they usally is close early. Just be prepare that not all of the server is nice and friendly. Who care tho if their RUDE. The food is GOOD. i can say this is a hole in the wall place. Its behide the shell gas sation next to a Bar. I can say this is the best korean place i ever ate at.. I cant wait until i go there to eat again. MY mouth is gettting watery from typing this review and i just had it a few days ago.. LOL

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall kinda place. Don't be scared when you roll up -- the food is definitely worth the trip. The bad, they don't open until 5pm; the good, they close at 2am. Servers/owners are really friendly and nice, but service can be slow at times. The restaurant is pretty small and dimly lit. There's writing and drawings all over the walls by customers; it's funny to read some of them. The tofu soup here is pretty good. It's full of flavor and not too spicy. The server will even crack an egg into your soup once they bring it to your table. The kimchi pork dish is also good. It has a tangy and spicy taste to it because of the kimchi. Too bad there's not more Korean food joints in Elk Grove because I would be all over it!

Sarang WHAT?! This is my new Korean hot spot because even though their prices are kinda pricey, their food is so bomb! Their seafood pancake is to die for, their bulgogi is really tender and thin, and their spicy chicken ain't so spicy at all! I think the bill came out to about 40-50 bucks for two people? Note: You will never get customer service here. I sat in the booth directly next to the cashier stand and they don't come to you unless you need something. Btw, they also don't give you side dishes if you order appetizers (spicy chicken & pancake) which led my friend and I to order our bulgogi dish and then came the side dishes!!! Also, the waiters give a little irritated look if you keep asking for side dishes. They aren't too polite. But a woman needed her fish cake cake cake cake cake cake.

My favorite Korean spot! This small place, complete with booths and two small TVs atop a fridge full of beers and sodas won my heart. I love how late they're open! On weekdays, they close at midnight and weekends at 2am! But, they sometimes close a little earlier if business is a little slow. I ordered their seafood spicy tofu soup and it came with a side of purple rice. My soup came with a tons of tofu, oysters, small shrimp, some crab, etc. You can also ask them to make it "extra spicy" if "spicy" isnt enough (; The sides were plenty and savory! Nothing to complain about. And aside from the usual water at your table, they also serve corn water! yummmm! I will definitely be back when i'm having one of those late-night, korean food cravings :)

My friends and I came here hoping for some good Korean food and lots of sides. To our dismay, not only was the food subpar, the service was horrible. The waitress was racist as f*ck. We asked for a refill on the sides and she gave us a horrible attitude about it and then proceeded to take 25 minutes to bring them out. When she did bring them out she only gave us 2/4 sides and barely gave us any at all. Might I mention, the other tables who spoke Korean got at least 6 sides and when they asked, she brought out ample sides a couple minutes later. When we proceeded to ask for a second refill (possibly out of spite) she told us that we could only get 1 extra refill. Funny.... You just gave the table next to us their 4th refill on sides..... Hmmmmmm. She was though very efficient on collecting the bill at the end.... Really?!? My friends and I were so mad about the service that it entirely ruined the mood. Pros: - the soju cocktails are very generous on the soju Cons: - portions are small for the price (my friends finished their food and they don't eat a lot) - service was horrible (0/5). If I could go lower I would - food was ehhh (2/5) - very stingy on sides - racist =____= (bring a Korean friend along with you..... Otherwise good luck getting anything)

SARANG BANG BANG !! The best korean join in all of Sac town.. well actually the only one I know and the only go to.. haha Friend of ours Linda Le introduced us to this hole in the wall korean restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Place is small inside with maybe 8 tables ? At the most but the service is awesome ! It feels like walking into my moms place and just grabbing a bite to eat. MUST HAVES ! MUST EAT ! NOW ! 1) SPICY CHICKEN ! .. yelp.com/user_local_phot… .. this lovely plate of deliciousness is the best chicken on the menu. Great spice to it and their sauce is tangy awesome. Great to start off with. 2) SANGYUPSAL !.. yelp.com/user_local_phot… ... this plate is something you will not see somewhere else. It has pork belly with kimchi on top and surrounded by soft tofu. OMG so damn good ! The kimchi is like Kimchi jigae.. for those koreans.. much like kimchi stew, its soft and cooked. 3) KIMCHI FRIED RICE !.. yelp.com/user_local_phot… .. more kimchi for your breath ! .. with an egg on top. Great dish and good for sharing of course. 4) BIM BIM NAENGMYUN !.. yelp.com/user_local_phot… .. this noodle dish is somewhat spicy and does not come with soup like the other naeng myun. Served with boiled egg, cucumber, ice and daikons. Great cold dish and soothing. We also ordered the rice cake (dukboki) but it was not all that great. I would pass on that next time and get something. But overall a good place to order alot and share with a group. Stop by here if you're in Sac !

In the wintertime, I get odd cravings for Korean food. And where's the best place to get go during that restless hankering? Go to Sarang Bang. Basically, this place is so tasty and spicy-good that even the leftovers taste just as amazing. One time I had leftovers in the fridge and the next thing I knew, my housemate ate the majority of it. Pretty much everything here was delicious - the soup, the bulgolgi, chicken wings, and appetizers, even! Considering the closest Korean-like restaurant to Davis is Oshios/Manna... this place is tenfolds better.

I used to come here after work all the time. The best thing is, this place is open till 1am or later sometimes. Yes it looks like a hole in the wall (and it is), inside of a dilapidated strip mall composed only of Sarang Bang and a liquor store, nonetheless, the food here is THE BEST in Sacramento. The ladies working there don't offer the best customer service, so don't expect much. We come here mainly for the food, drinks, and friends. A few beers and sojus later, you will forget about the customer service and just enjoy the time with friends and the amazing food. What I recommend: Spicy chicken Seafood pancake Kimchi with pork belly and tofu Any of the ones that you cook at the table (3+ people serving)

This place will forever holds a special spot in my heart. And it is why I am giving it a 4 stars. Sarang Bang was the first Korean drinking spot I've been to, back in 04-05 when I was still at Davis, my korean friends knocked on my dorm and asked if I wanted to go for a late night grub/drink. It was the first time I had Soju, and pudae jigae. there were 4 of us, one soup, and many bottles of soju. Since then, I would come to this place at least once every month with my roommates and just enjoyed a nice weekend out till I graduated and left Davis. We would always just order the pudae jigae, and sometime spicy squid or daboke, now that I think back of this place, the food really was just okay, but it was the experience and memory of this place that makes it so special.

This place is right near where I live and I've been here about three times. the first time was great but the two other times are okay. I think my favorite dish here is the stir fried squid dish that came with zucchinis and noodles. I'm a huge bibimbap lover but this place's bibimbap doesn't impress me much. Service isn't great. the waitress seemed grumpy and she hardly checked up on us. It was a bit pricey here but the food here is better than many other Korean places I've been too. overall, I give this place a 3 star rating for being Okay.

With all the Korean restaurants in competition in the neighborhood I was expecting the quality to be a lot better. We ordered bibimbap and bulgogi. For me, it was just okay. The bibimbap had seafood but the pieces were very hard and chewy. Portions were average but nothing special. Prices, I guess average. I asked for japchae but apparently they don't make it. Our waitress was very nice but new. She couldn't answer my questions and kept going back and forth from the kitchen. It was also very dark inside and the wait staff sat in the booths watching Korean movies on the tv.

The food here sure makes for a great instagram shot but for taste...not so much. My sissy's friend was visiting and she was craving korean food so we decided on this place. We ordered the beef and the seafood tofu soup, spicy chicken wings, some pork stuff, kimchi fried rice, and pot stickers. Holy crap, I was really shocked that every single dish was under seasoned. I've never had bland korean food before but the fact that every dish was messed up was amazing. My mom, who is just as picky as I am, agreed that the pickled daikon was the best thing we ate all night. Would not recommend unless you hate salt. If you hate salt this place is perfect!

I am currently sitting here and wondering why I am here... I haven't received my food yet but my impression of this place is less than impressed.. The lady is such a little B! She was unwelcoming and super bitchy. She was hurrying us to order and came back like 3 times in one minute. Then I asked her for a hot tea and she responded "well I have to make it" I'm like Duhhhhh! What else are you supposed to do? Is your job that hard? Anyways there's a bunch of graffiti everywhere solidifying this review. Anyways just got our hot tea and it smells like dish soap... Greaaaaattttt also served to us in a plastic cup... Real traditional. Anyways I'll give you an update about the food... That is even if I attempt to try it -___ - Food was okay, got bul gulgi and spicy chicken, there was too much sauce on the chicken. The lady insisted to fill my water half way every time and was very cheap on the sides. Overall this place did not exceed my expectations but after the horrible service I didn't expect any less. Not to mention she overcharged us.

I was very let down with this place. My friend and I were excited for some of their chicken wings and their kimchee fried rice since it seems like what everyone orders and rants and raves about. We did go when they were closing, but that doesn't mean give us the shit end of the stick. The wings were really old refried chicken drenched in their sauce. We threw it away and their kimchee fried rice was mediocre. I will not return to do any business here and it was a big let down. I called the next day to speak to a manager and got someone who hung up on me. So next time, I'll save my money the over priced food and go to OZ or some other place.

Been craving Korean food for a while, so we finally decided to eat here last night. We ordered Bulgogi, Kimchi Fried Rice and Spicy Tofu Soup (Seafood). The food was delicious, but the service sucked. The old lady who served us was seriously a witch. We initially ordered Bulgogi and Spicy Tofu Soup. We soon realized that they didn't serve white rice. It's something similar in taste to it, but not quite the same. So we wanted to add an order of Kimchi Fried Rice. When we placed the order, the lady rolled her eyes and acted impatient. Like seriously, was that necessary? It's not you back there cooking the food, just take the damn order down! The rest of the night, she didn't really check up on us, or ask to see if our food was okay. She didn't even ask if we wanted refills on our side dishes like how other Korean restuarants do. She just picked up the empty side dishes without saying anything. If the food wasn't delicious, I would never go back. -1 star for having the worse service ever!

A tiny place in a rundown strip mall in a crummy location. BUT, if you like Korean food, this place is worthy of a try. Many interest in dishes, most traditional, some innovated, all very tasty. The Spicy Chicken is hot, tasty, and finger licking good. My lovely bride says the Seafood Pancake is just great. The place definitely has personality. Narrow aisles, wooden bench seating. Walls covered with written messages (like the walls in a public restroom. A TV showing korean television programs (didn'T understand a word, so was not a factor) sorta adds to the experience. Not like most places with a tv where they are just an interruption to a dining experience. Feeling adventurous, this might be just what you are looking for.

Great authentic Korean food in the Sacramento area, but very lacking in service because there aren't enough employees. FOOD-wise: Their bulgogi and spicy seafood tofu soup are excellent, as are nearly all of their side dishes and the purple rice! Some of my favorites are the fish sticks, the broccoli with horseradish sauce, and definitely the kimchi, which is always fermented to perfection. Their drinks are overpriced, and the barley tea that comes with the meal isn't exactly pleasant because it's almost always lukewarm and very watery. The bulgogi is on the smaller end for its price, but always comes sizzling hot and flavorful. The tofu soup is just as delicious and always hovers right below my spiciness tolerance level, with tasty broth and generous pieces of seafood (mussels, calamari, shrimp). I usually never finish the soup and bring it to-go with the rice and some of my favorite side dishes. SERVICE-wise: The owner lady is a bit stingy with refilling dishes/tea cups and is usually busy with organizing/waitressing/cashiering the place, so service is always a bit rushed, stressed, and sporadic (ex. we had to wave at her for more than 10 minutes to get two forks). Sometimes she chases after people for extra tips (not kidding).... AMBIANCE: flat wooden chairs are very uncomfortable, but each table is partitioned with pretty screens for more privacy. Posters of Korean beer hang everywhere, and some booths have writing alllll over it (a bit like Boiling Crab), which looks a bit out of place. Overall: moderately priced REALLY tasty Korean food with not on par customer service.

This is my fav spot for Korean food. I usually order tofu soup, seafood pancake and the rice in clay pot. I've tried the same dishes at other local places and sarang bang makes it the best. I also like that its open late.

Old ban chan, VERY old kimchi. Not cool. All I can remember about the food was that it didn't taste too great. The waitress didn't really pay attention to us until one of us ordered for everyone in Korean. If one of us wasn't Korean, I'm pretty sure we would've gotten a very different sort of service.

A friend recommended this place to me and let me tell ya, this place is the bomb!! Open late too, which is a plus because I'm a night owl... Here are the things I have tried so far: Spicy seafood soup- 8/10 delicious, the portions are huge and although the menu says for two people, it's still really big! Seafood pancake- 10/10 perfectly seasoned, the sauce compliments the pancake and the batter isn't too overpowering like most seafood pancakes I have tried Spicy rice cakes- 7/10 has a small kick to it, was a little bland; it was just okay. Spicy chicken- 10/10 THE REASON WHY I CAME HERE. My friends have been raving about how good their spicy chicken is and it was amazing. Pork belly with kimchi- 8/10 he kimchi in this plate was really good, I like my kimchi on the sour side and it was delicious Bulgogi and octopus "soup"- 6/10 the menu said this was a soup and honestly there was no soup... it was just some sauce from the veggies when being simmered. Hard to explain but I wouldn't recommend getting this if you really want a soup-soup. Bulgogi- 9/10 seasoned to perfection, some people said it was bland in their reviews but mine tasted good to me! Just wish it was a bigger portion. My experiences here were good, the server is down to earth and I love how she speaks korean to us when we're not even korean haha! Such a sweet lady. I will definitely be back.

I've been coming here for years now and I am a regular here. This is Theeee BEST KoREAN restaurant in sac. I'm giving them 5 stars for their amazing FOOD :) Location- Kind of hidden but easy to find. It's behind a gas station and next door to a bar, yes... Kinda ghetto. The tiny strip is pretty run down. But there's always parking and they open til 2am which I love! Ambience- Tiny, cozy, funky decor (Xmas lights, bottle caps hanging, tagged walls) so please come casual. They have wooden bench seats and the tables are set up like cubicals, so it's kinda nice and private. This is a hot spot for college kids and the after club crowd on the weekends. So at times, it can get pretty loud. Service- Bad. Don't take it so personally when the waitress doesn't seem attentive or happy to see you. I know it's terrible but I honestly think that's just how she is. I'm not excusing it, I'm just letting you know. If you need something, walk up to the register or catch her as she's walking by or you'll be waiting forever. I come here so often that it doesn't bother me anymore. Plus she knows me now lol. But at the end of the meal, you can decide for yourself how to much to tip her and whether you'll be back or not. Food- DELICIOUS!!!! I LOVE the Spicy Chicken $12- I love it because it's actually not spicy so I can eat it. It's sticky, tangy, sweet. And moist on in the inside. Seafood Pancake $13- The BEST pancake I've had at a Korean place, the other restaurants just don't do it right. Something about the batter, it's puuurfect, not doughy at all. Lined with green onion and crispy fried egg, I always wondered how they get it into that perfect rectangular shape. Stir Fried Squid $11- Sooo good, the lady knows not to put carrots in when I order it :) I can't even explain how this dish tastes, it's just sooo yummy! Comes with a little pile of noodles and my fav veggies- mushrooms and zucchini. Spicy Tofu Soup $10- This is a mouth watering soup. Comes to your table boiling, then you crack and egg in it. Stir it around and ready to eat. It's spicy, sour and gives me a home good feel. Rice is a purpleish color- it's good. Sides- I like the bean sprout thing, potato and macaroni salad and the kim chi. It depends on what they make for the day, but they give you a variety. Water- It's like a rice tea. Pretty good. So these are the 4 dishes I usually order when I come. I've tried other stuff here but I just stick to what I like. And these 4 items, I LOVE!! I think the prices are good for what you get. And importantly, the food is always consistent! So remember, when you come, don't ask the waitress for suggestions, just rely on us on yelp lol. And I truly hope you enjoy the food because this is really as good as it gets for Korean Food in Sacramento :)

I LOVE THIS KOREAN RESTAURANT!!! Although I have to admit that service can be poor at times. However, the owner is awesome! I looooooooove their seafood pancake, kimchee fried rice, spicy seafood tofu soup, spicy chicken (get the sauce on the side), chicken gizzard, stir fried spicy squid (served with veggies and a side of plain vermicelli noodles), and their bulgogi. I also highly recommend their soup for two, especially the meat or the seafood one. If you don't feel like peeling shrimp and cracking crab legs, then get the meat one (I usually eat it with a side of rice). I'm drooling just thinking about their dishes :)*** This is a great spot to eat and drink, and it opens late.

Nice little Korean restaurant to go to when you are looking for a place to eat during late nights. This restaurant doesn't even open until 6pm. Their food is okay, I've been to other Korean restaurant but their food isn't something call special. They offer the purple rice, I guess many people like that but to me rice just taste like rice. The prices for the food, its average for korean food. the environment overall is okay, they have the same concept as boiling crab where you get to write on the walls. its pretty cute how they selection the tables out, so you and your group of friends or your date each have your own little cubical. Its pretty cozy and the lady is the only person serving you. Although I kind of dislike how the lady sometime rushes you to order or after you order she only comes by once with the sides and ask you if you want rice. for the rest of the time, she doesn't come by until you ask for the check. overall, a decent place i guess.

I am not sure why I came here with my friends. But I had to try it Mistake number one was thinking that the reviews were wrong. I was wrong. I think that I must have the American Idea of service because it wasn't here. But in all it was alright. The entire idea of the food was a typical Korean Menu with the same sort of food I can find over at another Korean restaurant on the other side of Bradshaw. I am not too sure if I will be returing.

My wife and I bought our house in this neighborhood several years ago and were not aware of this restaurant and that it is open till 2am. A friend recommended it because as he put it, it is more like street food for Korean cuisine. This is the sort of stuff that young people enjoy from Korea. I felt like this explanation perfectly summarizes our experiences here. The food is great and the service as well. The atmosphere is uniquely Korean, including the writing all over the walls (a Korean tradition we learned) as well as the Korean soap operas playing on the TV. This place is never empty when we eat here, and the people who we see, certainly match the "younger generation" demographic, although we have also seen plenty of parties of middle and older aged guests too. Because our friends treated us here for our first time, we continue to carry on the tradition by introducing various friends to Sarang Bang so that they too can have the sort of exciting and fun experience we had there for our first time. I highly recommend giving this place a try. The seafood pancakes are awesome, as is a dish I can't remember the name of, but it's pork belly, cabbage, sliced garlic, sliced jalepeno, and oyster with kimchi. Last night, we discovered that their Bulgogi is also *really* good. The only thing I can say, is that usually, I'm the only white guy there! But I don't feel like that is a problem either. The staff is very friendly and we plan to continue taking ourselves and our friends to this place!

Living in the Rosemont area for my whole life and always craving a late night snack, this place was a great find! I came here on a Thursday night with my girlfriend and two friends and it was to capacity. The food smelled great and we were sat at a table to wait where our order was taken in the mean time. After a short wait, we were seated and our food came shortly after. I ordered the Bul Go Ki and it was amazing. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good Korean food and a late night/after drinking stop.

Great Korean food for Sacramento! Very shady part of Rosemont. It's located in a ghetto strip mall. The restaurant looks closed bcz the doors and windows were covered up, scary! When you enter through the heavy door it's fairly decent. The place has booths with dividers so high that you can have privacy; and tagged with past patrons' names and such. I felt so claustrophobic bcz of the darkness and enclosed booth. To add to claustrophobia a server seats us and brings us dirty water! lol...I was advised it was corn and barley water. It reminded me of a Japanese green tea (gen mai chai brown rice tea) with an after taste of corn. It wasn't bad; if it didn't have an after taste that just sits in the back of your throat I would have kept drinking it. Anyways, what I've had here: -fried chicken/ sauce on the side: very spicy hot sauce, chix was a little dry for me, but overall it was good a dish for a snack -kim chee fried rice: much better than your typical Chinese fried rice -green onion pancake: loved this dish! I could do without the seafood and less green oinios, tho -spare ribs soup: it was good and simple -a sizzling rice bowl (#50 or #52 ??): I loved this dish as well, next time I'll skip all the cheap frozen seafood mix. Love how they cook their egg! Overall, I liked this place. I would probably skip their seafood in some or all of the dishes bcz it tastes like frozen mixed seafood package. I would've given this place 4 stars but the seafood isn't fresh =(

If you have late night cravings of Korean food like me then this is your go in place! It's so convenient that it opens late the only down side is the noise bar right next door and the drunk patrons. Besides that this place is awesome. The staff there are semi attentive but once I get my food I don't mind as long as they satisfy my hunger. I always get the seafood and tofu soup and seafood pancake every time I go, it's delicious! I tried the chicken gizzard for the first time and it was so good my favorite part of that dish was the stir fried garlic pieces. This place is definitely my go to place and they don't actually close earlier then they are suppose to like most places that's a plus!!!

Had dinner at a girlfriend's that lived close to here. After a few shots of Hennessy, we decided to check out the Mushroom Lounge which is in the same plaza as Sarang Bang. The Mushroom Lounge wasn't our scene so decided to check out the Korean restaurant. Sarang Bang was small but cozy. They were open until the wee hours in the morning and we ordered tteokbokki and peach soju. The tteokbokki had enough kick to it without being overly spicy. I never had soju before (even though I'm Korean) and the soju was very sweet - a lil too sweet for my taste but still good. I NEVER eat at a Korean restaurant because my mom makes bomb Korean food. However, I will definitely go back to Sarang Bang to try their other dishes. The Korean ladies that worked there were so cute and nice as well. I have never seen so many Koreans in one spot, especially in Sacramento but they were all eating there if that tells you anything about the food!

So I have been wanting to try this place out for a while. My friends talk about it sometimes and I heard that it is some people's favorite restaurant. I went here with 4 of my buddies late at night, and man, was it a big mistake or what? We were better off getting some Del Taco down the street to save us some money. The waitress here is probably the worst server that I have ever had and I am not just saying that. We sat in the corner for a bit and I noticed that there were some writings on the wall.. Some of them wrote that the service here sucks.. And indeed it did. Our waitress asked us what we wanted to drink.. 3 of us said water and one of them wanted the corn syrup water. When she came back, she got the drinks mixed up the other way around and just walked away. Like seriously? It's not that difficult. When she came back, I told her that I asked for regular water. She gave me this bitchy attitude, took my cup, and was really going to pour some of the corn water to my friend's cup... Lucky she didn't, or we would have just walked out. My friends decided to stick with the syrup water and didn't want to make a big deal out of it. The food here was mediocre at best. Nothing was all that spectacular. The seafood pancake was probably the best thing that we had. The spicy chicken was decent but had way too much sauce. The bulgogi was alright but the portion was not worth the price. We also had some ribs which I didn't enjoy so much. When we were finished eating, none of us were really full. The bill came out to be 55 bucks. We left 5 dollars on the table even though she didn't deserve a single penny. Anyways, I am never going back here again. I find it shocking that some people actually like this place. Do not ever expect any service at all if you come here.

Three and one half stars Made my way to the Rosemont area to dabble in Korean food. Decided to go against the tide and steer away from the usual Bulgogi, Mandu, Tofu soup, Bibimbap and tried their other specialties; Seafood pancake: wonderful texture with green onion and chewy delightful bits of octopus Spicy chicken: tangy and spicy wings and drumettes flavored with tomato puree and red pepper powder Fishcake soup: skewered slices of different fishcake in a subtle broth The rock hardwood booths can be a little uncomfortable as well as the limited seating and also very few condiment to compliment the meal as opposed to other restaurants.

I tried Sarang Bang for the first time because everyone raved about it, so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. I must say I don't see what's the big hype about this place is. The service was great, but the food was mediocre. We tried the bibimbap, tofu soup, and spicy chicken. Overall, the food pretty good, but not spectacular. Great place for late night Korean cravings.

Best bulgogi I've had. Ever. Yummy barley water refilled constantly. The kimchi tofu stew was served piping hot, tasted like heaven in a bowl. I've been back just for the stew four times now. Perfect balance of kimchi tart, spice and flavor. I need to try the spicy chicken next time, heard it's amazing. I'd describe this place as a tiny old Korean hole in the wall drinking spot with excellent food. It's not at all fancy, not pretty, but it has it's own "worn" charm. The wooden booths are super tall making you feel that you're in your own little private "room". The booth in the back corner is covered in graffiti. Bring a sharpie! Oh and it gets loud in here. The later it gets it starts to resemble a bar more and more. Some people I know have commented that the service here is rude. I MUST completely disagree. On each of my 10+ visits I've been helped by the same woman. She treats me as a welcomed guest and never was I left without water or beer ever, on any of my 10+ visits. I always have questions so she gives her advice, takes my order and goes back to working hard. I don't expect her to kiss my ass and fake smile. She's efficient and gets down to business, something I admire in a lady. My food came quick and hot, my kimchi dish was never empty. I will come back, over and over and over again. Doesn't open until 5pm each night (my only complaint) but stays open past bar closing. (Side note- seriously, you can get bulgogi until 2am!) In this sense, Sarang Bang needs exactly this type of lady to make it run smooth and while keeping the drunk patrons in check. Plus it's just fun to say "Sarang Bang".

Yummy Kimchee Fried Rice, seafood pancake and bulgogi but no short ribs?! I prefer Tofu House in Elk Grove since they have better tofu soup, short ribs on the menu, tastier sides and the best steam rice! Lol

Just recently tried out this place a few days ago and it is not too bad. We ordered a bunch of items off the menu such as the tofu soup with beef, bulgogi, kimchi fried rice, seafood pancakes, and much more. I recommend the bulgogi, which is like thinly sliced BBQ beef. It was delicious. My favorite was the seafood pancake! It is a must get dish! Long story short, this is a place you have to try.

The food here is good, they close really late about 2am. I always order the Spicy Seafood Tofu Soup. The food here is very authentic. Seating is kind of limited too so when you come here just hope you beat the crowd. The Cons about this place is that you always have to wave someone down if you need something. The place is kind of small so it gets stuffy, it's one of those restaurant that you will definitely smell like, the moment you walk out. But the food is what keeps me coming back. It's a great place to stop by if you're craving Korean food really late at night.

A small hole in the wall place that is kinda hidden. Booth style seating with ebough room to fit ~30 people. Expect to spend ~$15-20 a person after tax and tip. seafood pancake above average with some egg, batter, squid, veggies, and shrimp. bulgogi above average marinate with caramalized onions galore on the bottom that are soaked in beef juices. thinly cut with minimal fat. spicy seafood tofu soup cracked the egg in front of us. Can choose between seafood, pork, or beef. The tofu to soup ratio was heavily on the tofu side but was very flavorful. banchan kimchi was the freshest I have ever eaten. Only 6 sides and everything else was just average. Overall a decent restaurant and one of the few so far that I have visted are worthy of a repeat visit. Will have to try their roasted chicken next time.

Nomz, legit Korean food. Okay, the service can be a bit slow at times but what do you expect from a mom and pop shop that is open late so you can eat great? If you come to enjoy your company, then you won't even notice that it takes a bit longer to get your bill or to have your water/barley tea refilled. The banchan they serve aren't my favorites, and the cramped booths and awkward lighting don't make for a pleasant experience, but you always leave satisfied. I loveee the seafood pancake and the brown rice. I've had better Korean Fried Chicken (only in the bay area though, boo), but I did learn a trick here: if you like your chicken crispy, you can ask for the sauce on the side so you can dip as you eat and your chicken won't have to sit drenched in that sauce, waiting to get soggier by the minute.

This place is really a hole in the wall. Small and tucked away. Well, it is to me. Came here a couple of times and I enjoyed my experience here. I've gotten the kimchi fried rice. It's good. Can't go wrong. Tofu soup was good too. There are few other things that were ordered too and of course those little side dishes, but the kimchi fried rice was more memorable. It was favored to perfection. Well, to me at least. And it was topped with an egg. Now, that's awesome. The thing that got me is that it's like the Korean movie. Opened late (opens at 2 pm....very weird), small, and dim lite. Service? Meh, you know what you get yourself into when you get there. Can't really expect to have superb service. That's about it. I like it and will come back.

This is my favorite Korean restaurant to go to and I would really give it a 3.5...STEP UP YOUR KOREAN GAME, SACRAMENTO!! Late night craving for Korean food? Sarang Bang opens late. I like how the booths they have create an intimate party for your group. I like that they serve Soju and Sake and can make bombs out of them. The food is good, but it isn't amazing. This is probably because my tongue has been spoiled by the Koreaness of LA and its K-Town. I usually order: - Seafood Pancake - Bulgolgi (KBBQ beef) - Spicy Tofu Soup - Spicy Chicken Wings - Dukbokgi (spicy rice noodles) Not only is the food just "good" but for the price, you get a bit disappointed. You get even more disappointed when you realize that they are stingy on the side plates. I LOVE SIDE DISHES. SARANG BANG, Y U NO GIVE ME MORE SIDE DISH?! Like any Ma & Pa Asian hole in the wall, the service is weak. I'll keep coming back though...until Sac brings me a legit Korean spot.

I just came back from a recent trip to Korea, but on the trip I was sick and had lost my appetite. Therefore, my family and I were craving authentic Korean food near our home. We went about 7 and the ajusshi seated us at a small table for four (even though there were five of us) and told us to pull over a fold-up chair. While we looked through the menu, a bigger seat opened and the ajusshi came to us smiling and said we could move over there. A lady came to take our order and suggested the samgyupsal with spicy leaf, so we got that, spicy chicken, bibimbap, bulgogi and pajun. It came with two rices (perfect portion with the bibimbap), multiple banchan (the small dishes that korean meals are generally served with) and cold oksusu cha (roasted corn tea). The total was about 70 dollars for five people. We left very full. Pros: smiling ajusshi server :) he always came to refill our tea at the perfect time. delicious food ! good portions and two rices came with the food Cons: spicy chicken was dry (the sauce was delicious, but the breast meat of the chicken was dry) the location is a bit out of the way, but worth it. Overall, I will definitely return !! That spicy chicken (not really spicy) was so delicious.

The most authentic Korean restaurant in town in terms of taste. Every time I go here, I find myself re-evaluating the place. This last time I was fortunate enough to try the gam-ja tang. It was... amazing. Gam-ja tang is a soup made of pork ribs and potatoes in a thick creamy soup made which tastes heavily of black sesame. It tasted ALMOST like it does in Korea and the serving was LARGE. I will definitely go for the bu-dae jjigae next time after seeing their soup serving sizes.

So who on Yelp wants in on my plan to steal their secret recipes?? Only for personal at-home re-creation purposes of course. So you know those small, family-ran korean restaurants you see in Korean dramas/movies and so forth, yeah this is similar. So if you're looking for something close to authentic food/experience then this is the right place. Everything is similar from the bad english to the "dinky" dim lighting. This place is SMALL with limited bench seating and a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling at each table. Convenient right??? Not. There's usually only one person working the front house of the restaurant, meaning she multi-tasks everything. She will most likely be your waitress/server/cashier ALL-IN-ONE. That means you should be patient and you have no choice but to tolerate her bluntness, she's not giving you an attitude on purpose, it comes naturally and most of the regulars are used to it. Like most Korean places, they start off with an assortment of side dishes, pickled veggies, and KIMCHI (yeah, it deserves caps). I noticed that it's not always the same items brought out and varies each time. Not much we can do about that except eat what's in front of us. The Spicy Chicken has to be my all-time favorite. Your mouth will water for this stuff as you dream about it at work or school. You grow an addiction to it like some miracle crack and always come back for more. I'm not a fan of their ice tea they serve so I always ask for water despite the look I get from the her. They can be pricey because most of their items are meant for sharing, and they charge for rice which sucks. P.S. Don't get too excited for the addictive crack they serve up, you'll find yourself ordering too much when you get there and wind up with a fat bill, fat stomach, and fat too-go box.

I met a friend here for dinner. The food was good. I had the sea food tofu soup which I thought was good. I went back to try the beef bibimbap. I really enjoyed the bibimbap. The side dishes were disappointing and I had better. There are arts and word scatter all over the wall from prior guesses. I never have high expectation when going to an Asian restaurant about customer services. I would go back.

You know its good when the old Korean ladies are back there cooking away! Soon as you walk in - definitely a hole in the wall and you feel like you're in another country. Simply the best bulgogi ever! ============ Total size: Very small area for seating. No more than 4 should be in your party. Price: Kinda pricy for the Bulgogi, I think that was roughly $14 but its a decent sized serving. Very authentic food though! Quality: Food is excellent if you're looking for a Korean restaurant.

I've been here once with my sisters and I ordered the beef ribeye, bibimbap, and their fried chicken. My heart kind of sank when I discovered they don't serve short ribs. ): Like any other Korean joint, they serve side dishes which were probably the only thing I enjoyed here. Overall, the food tasted bland. Both the bulgogi and chicken lacked flavor even with the chili sauce ): Our server was just...eh. Business was slow, yet she seemed to be rushing us. After she delivered our food, she went back to stand behind the counter to watch her asian drama or something. I don't think I'll be coming back. I'm a fan of Korean food, but honestly, I prefer YD House over Sarang Bang.

I love coming here because it is open late and the food is delicious!! Many of the dishes we ordered were good but I am not sure what the names of the dishes were. The service was not that great which gave this place 4 stars. Overall, this is a great place for late night food but don't bank on the service.

S: I absolutely LOVE the food here; the service however, SUCKS. The restaurant is extremely small and opens up at like 5 so you really can't enjoy the food until later in the evening which sucks because I'm always craving this place for lunch. The waitress is a little rude and takes forever to take your order but when it does come out, it's all worth it because the food definitely hits the SPOT!! :D My favorite dishes here are the bulgoki, kimchi fried rice, and spicy chicken. I like to order the roasted chicken with a plate of the spicy sauce on the side. That way, my chicken can be all crispy :D

YES, the service here sucks, but really, what do you expect from a middle-aged Korean lady who has to serve old men and drunken college students beer & fried chicken night after night? I expect no less than the shoddy service she already gives me, so my review here is for the food at Sarang Bang. Best. Tongdak (deep fried chicken). Ever. 5 stars hands down. And I say this with the plethora of Korean chicken joints down here in So Cal where I'm from. My wife went to school at Davis, so whenever we visit the area, she & her friends always seem to want to eat at Sarang Bang. The tongdak (both regular & marinated kinds) and the seafood mix (in Korean: ojinguh bokkeum), in my opinion, are this joint's best dishes. The side dish of fermented radish to eat along with your chicken serves as the perfect salty, fried, and tangy combination for your tastebuds. The parking lot is a bit sketchy and there will always be some kind of Korean television program blaring on the TV, but seriously, if you're ever in the area, Sarang Bang is definitely a place you need to try out. Yes, you may need to walk up to the counter and re-fill your own water cup while the server is sitting right there reading the newspaper, but if you love Korean-style fried chicken, this place is worth enduring the bad service.

I came here a few months ago with my boyfriend for the first time and I have to admit, I thought the food was delicious! The only thing I don't like about this place is that they don't open during the day. We ordered kimchi jigae, the seafood pancake, and kimchi bukum (i think that's how you spell it). The kimchi jigae wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad either. I really liked the seafood pancake and the kimchi bukum so I am definitely excited to come back and order those again.

I used to come here alot when I was going to school up in the area. This little hole in the wall was a pretty cool place that some friends of mine introduced me too, you might have a wait a bit for a booth to open up as seating is limited. The food here is is decent, but I never really came here for the food, I usually came here late at night for drinks as they have a decent selection of Korean beer, umeshu and soju, and it's pretty decently priced. My favorite thing here would have to be the spicy chicken, the tofu soup is okay, and the kimchi fried rice is on the greasy side but, honestly if you need something to help soak up the booze, I can't think of a better way to go. The service here, is very hit or miss, some nights it can be pretty good, where the hostess is extremely attentive and friendly, other nights (which is more common) it can be extremely difficult to get their attention, especially if you want them to refill your tea, water or banchan. They do come pretty quick when you want the bill though. I do miss going here though.....

Came here since me and my friends were craving some tofu stews on a hot summer evening. Yup, we're weird. Rolling up to the place, Sarang Bang looks like it's in the midst of an abandoned strip mall with some ugly blue shades barricading the sun from intruding the restaurant, yet inside, it's dim-litted with booths. The ghettoness definitely stops at the door. We each ordered the tofu stew and I was surprised our server didn't ask how spicy we'd like them. We also ordered the rice rolls with spicy sauce. My cousin and I found the tofu stew to not be spicy enough, and the seafood pot that I devoured wasn't heavy on sea creatures as it had only small amounts of octopus and mussels in addition to tofu in it. The rice rolls were good too but also not extremely spicy. This is a cool spot, but in terms of Korean food, I'll stick to trusty Pine Tree House instead.

I live in the area and pass by on my walks always wanting to try Sarang Bang Bang. We ordered the Bulgogi, Octopus, veggies in hot sauce. It came in a huge skillet over a hot plate with lots of veggies and udon noodles. It was so good we coulldn't stop eating even though we were full. The service was efficient as they filled our water glasses with the toasted rice tea consistently. I saw other dishes on the menu that I can't wait to go back for. They have a substantial menu with plenty of things to choose from.

As far as Korean restaurants in Sac go, I think that this place is pretty good. Last time I went, we got the bibimbap, bulgogi, and dduk poki. The only thing is that the service wasn't great. And there was no other customers other than one other table. I would hate to see what would happen on a busy night. I tried going back again last night (Sunday) and their Yelp page says they open at 6:00pm. We were there at 6 and waited 10 minutes but they were still not open. We tried their phone number too, but it went to answering machine. After a long drive from Orange County, we were starving and were not about to wait until they decided to open. We went to Oz instead.

Well, after reading all the reviews, I decided to go give this place a try. There was a blue tarp right in front of the entrance so we thought the place closed down but nope it was still open. I think it's there to keep out the sun. The inside is dim and cozy. We ordered the seafood bibimbap and the spicy chicken. The bibimbap was delicious but the seafood in it were chewy. Lol. The spicy chicken was not spicy at all so the name is misleading. It looks similar to Peking Spareribs but made with chicken. Some pieces of the spicy chicken were a little dry. The banchan was pretty good. Service was not that great due to only one server. Luckily, the restaurant was not busy at that time so I could only imagine how the quality of service will be if they were busy. Also, they need to clean the seats better because I sat on something sticky and I didn't notice it until we got up ready to leave and I felt something sticky on my hand. Yuck. Aside from the service and the sticky seat, I will be going back for the seafood pancake.

This was highly recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. If you're looking for authentic Korean food, this is a must try. We ordered the kimchi fried rice, beef bulgoki and the seafood pancake. The beef was good but not the greatest. It could use a bit of texture. But the flavor was good. It was sweet as expected. Kimchi fried rice was flavorful. It complements the beef very well. It's just a little greasy. Portion size wise, it was a less than I expected. Only good for two. Now to the best part, the seafood pancake. It's the best I've had so far. Not too much batter, very crisp and flavorful. And you can actually taste the seafood. I can go there and order just this and be happy. :) The sides are nothing special. The only thing I noticed is that they serve them with your food so they are not really appetizers unlike other places. No refills either. Overall, great place to try. :)

One of my fave Korean spots in Sacramento! 5 stars for the food! My hubby and I will drive all the way out to this place from Elk Grove at 5am. Yes, it's that good! Like all the other reviews stated, the service isn't all that great. We didnt get a refill on our little side dishes but we did get refills on water. I felt bad for the waitress though. It was just her and there were several patrons that were pretty rude to her. I'd probably be in a crabby mood too if I had to deal with rude customers and drunks everyday! Anyways, it's worth trying!

Great food good price. I love the pancake and the soft tofu soup. The spice was just right. I take out one star from the poor service. They need to hire a waitress. I went there on Saturday night and the one lady had to take care of all the customers. We had to wait for drinks, extra utensils and everything.

My girlfriend and I are regulars here. She really likes all the little appetizers they give, and we both love their Seafood pancake! They are open late (I think 2-3am) which is nice for us as we get off work late sometimes. The area is a little off-putting, but once you get past that you'll really like this place!

There aren't too many good Korean restaurants in Sac. This was my second time here, it was really quiet for a Thursday night at around 8pm, but that's not a problem. They had the Giants game on, so I felt right at home. I ordered the yogurt soju, and "hang over soup".. no hang over but spicy korean soup is always my thing. My friend ordered the seafood pancake and the tofu soup. The seafood pancakes were very good, they're packed with seafood and a lot of flavor. The hang over soup had some beefrib diced into cubes still attached to the bone. All in all, a pretty good place I wouldn't mind visiting to satisfy my Korean cravings.

Went here spontaneously because it was late and we were hungry! I'm not a great judge for Korean food since I haven't had enough but this place is pretty good. The location is sketchy but you forget about it when you go in. It's dark and tiny in there but you can tell people are having fun in their booths. I wish I had a menu in front of me to give examples of what I got but it seemed like everything in the menu was pretty good. The two things that my boyfriend and I always get: a soup with little rice cakes and dumplings and some sort of shredded beef dish. The one thing we probably won't order again unless we are with a group of people is the tempura/fried veggies... there was sooo much and there were three of us. I think it was a little underdone too because the batter was a little gooey on some parts. It's open late but I remember calling and asking about their hours and a women said it just depends on how busy it is. It usually is open until it's posted time. A fair warning:: one time my boyfriend and his friend wanted to try out some korean beers. They didn't know that there are similar looking bottles with hard liquor in them. They ordered two and the waitress said "Are you sure? Do you want to share?" she didn't speak English very well and she just stared at me... as if I should change their minds, but I didn't know. They both chugged a big amount and both realized they messed up. The waitress finally came out with the shot glasses... HAHAHA. They got wasted... it was some fun times at Sarang Bang :D Definitely try this place out if you're in the area and craving some good food late at night.

Service is waayyyy better now... it was reaaaaal bad before... but we still went there at least once or twice a month.. thats how much we like the food there. The food is good, I love coming here, there is no other place I would rather go for Korean food in Sac. its a dive... but thats one of the things i like about it. the place is chill and the food is consistent. we always get the same things there... bul go gi, fried chicken with the sauce on the side, the oyster steam pork thing, tofu soup, kimchee fried rice, and the fried pot stickers. depending on the number of people.. we adjust these orders. but ya, this place is great!!! highly recommended... even back when their service was a 0 out of 10.... try not to come here though, with high expectations.. you will leave satisfied for sure!

I love this place... the only thing I don't like about this place is that it don't open till 5pm but it stays open till like 2am. I will keep on coming back.

The spicy chicken is SO GOOD! How good? Good enough that I'll put up with: The long wait (I once had some crazy girl try to cut me...like I said she's crazy and I cut her right back...no one stands between me and spicy chicken) The extremely rude service The noisy drunk people The so-so bulgoki No kalbi (which is my favorite!) And the bad service: That really should be said again, because sometimes the women will actually pretend like they don't see you! I no longer live in the area but I still crave the spicy chicken.

Who knew there would be such a little gem in Sacramento. I went here about five years ago on one of my first dates with my fiancée, who is Korean. It was delicious then and it was still delicious when I went last night to celebrate two birthdays. For two days we had contemplated whether we were going to go to Oz KBBQ or here. We ended up choosing to go here and we definitely got the more authentic Korean dining experience, with the mean waitress and all! Despite being a relatively small operation, they are were able to accommodate a rather large party and maintain a sense of privacy. They were extremely patient and came out with the food quickly after we ordered it. Everything we ordered was good. We had the spicy chicken, bulgoki, seafood pancake, kimchee fried rice and the spicy seafood soup. The sauce on the spicy chicken was soooo delicious!! Our party was stuffed and even had leftovers and I calculated that it was at least $100 cheaper than AYCE at Oz for our party. Being open until 2am is a plus especially for Sac when nothing stays open!

Poor customer services! We never got our water refilled! And omg, charged for rice! Are you freakin serious??!!! The side dishes came in late! the waitress brought in a wrong order, which we never ordered! She got pissed at us and started giving us attitude!! Seriously, no tip for your rudeness! I'm only giving a one star for cheap Korean food!!!

I never seem to get to try their other food BECAUSE I'm addicted to their "Beef short rib soup". The broth is just yummy with noodles and their beef is always tender and VERY flavorful. Their condiments are good as well, plenty to pick from esp their fish cake and their broccoli with that cream sauce. The place is small but charming. And there's only one lady that serves, so just expect to wait a bit. The drive is crazy long, but it's okay because it'll build your appetite and will be all worth it. =)

Finally visited this place for the first time yesterday and was mildly disappointed. Service was pretty good but the food is nothing to rave about. But then again, I'm Korean so I can get pretty picky about my Korean food. I think I'll stick to Sulzip. Good service, never too busy and better food.

Very good food in the restaurant plus a cozy environment that made it feel like we were having our very own private meal. This place had the typical banchan that comes along with your order as found in all korean eatery. For our entree, we had seafood tofu soup and Bibinbap. The seafood tofu was as good as most. The bibinbap was stellar and more than I could eat. The leftover a few days later was still delicious. The chief complaint and reason why I won't be going back to Sarang Bang again was the service. The waitress dropped our food off and did not check back with us until our meal was over. Having worked as a waiter, I understand the pressure of being over-swamped on a Friday night. However, she was chilling, not paying any attention to any of her customers. Top it all off, when we asked for more kimchi, she said no, because we were done with our meal. Great food, would def recommend. Just be prepared for some bad service.

Today, I went to Sarang Bang for the first time after reading the reviews on Yelp, and I can say now this won't be my only review on it since I haven't tried enough of their food. I didn't really look around outside of the booth, but from what I saw, there were only about 3 booths to sit at. It is extremely small, but it's a really lovely and comfortable place. The food itself and the menu didn't live up to my expectations, and I didn't find the "corn water" all that great. However, the food was still delicious even though it wasn't the best I've had. My friends and I ordered the beef tofu soup, spicy octopus, tonkatsu, and tteok bokki with ramen. The tofu soup was great although I preferred Tofu House's soup as it has more variety, is cheaper, and has more flavor. The soup here was about $10. The tteok bokki, $7, was okay. The tteok was very plain tasting, but it wasn't too bad with the sauce. (I would order it again.) The tonkatsu was a no for me. If I want to eat some decent tonkatsu, I'd just go to a Japanese restaurant or L&L. The octopus was pretty good, about $10, and worth ordering. The biggest disappointment here was the banchan. It was very lacking and wasn't served until our food arrived while other groups that came in after us received it almost right away. None of the banchan were very flavorful although the broccoli was really good with a hint of wasabi or something of the like. Our banchan also included kimchee, fish cake, bean sprouts, and macaroni that no one really enjoyed. For drinks, we ordered the peach soju cocktail and makgeolli. The soju was good but a bit too sweet for my tastes. The makgeolli, on the otherhand, had me in love. Maybe I'm just weird for liking it, but I wanted more and more. It was tangy and bubbly, very light in alcohol. Any weak sauce can drink this. The only sad thing was the price: over $20 for the two bottles. :( I don't have much to say about the service. Ahjumma was very kind and patient with us. Overall, I was highly satisfied and am currently bloated, still wanting more to eat. I will definitely be back to eat here again! It's now my go-to spot for late night eatings. :)

At first, i was excited read all the great reviews on yelp, but this place is mediocre at best. I was recommended to try the spicy chicken, it was ok. I also had the bulgoki and the green onion and seafood pancake. The chicken was the best of the three. I understand that they were somewhat busy and they only had one server, (it's a small place) but i notice she only gave service to those who were korean. She kept ignoring us until she served her preferred customers. She only came by our table twice, once to get our order, and another time to serve our food. I would have given three start if it wasn't for the bad service.

Ok, I've been here many many times and won't be there again. The portions got very small, no refills on sides. The whole place is driven by greed...If you want something close to korean home cooking meals, go somewhere else.

I would say this is best Korean food in town. That is for Korean street food and appetizer/snack kind food. (dduk boki, spicy chicken, boodaejjigae etc). Atmosphere is typical soju place, very crowded since the booths are so tight and the restaurant is small. I don't get the chance to go back to this place since I can't take my toddler here due to atmosphere, small space and that they are open only for dinner.

  • Dean W.

Alright, I gotta admit that the first time I came here I actually had a good experience even though its pretty expensive. 6 month later, I got shitty service, the Budae jjigae gave me a fat stomache ache, and attitude from the bitch at the counter when we asked for more banchan. Seriously, who serves 5 people 4 dishes of banchan. 2 middle fingers up for this shitty hole in the wall. I'm never coming back.

  • Kimmy M.

Anyway, I would like to say the food is below average and the service is HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! When we asked for the side dishes, the waitress told us we have to wait until the food is ready because the owner doesn't like people to eat too much the FREE sides. Moreover, when we asked for refill, she said we only can refill once. I went to soooo many Korean restaurants, we've never been treat like this. So, the conclusion is-- we will NEVER go back !!!! PS. the seafood hot pot is NOT fresh at all....so, be careful

I have been wanting to try this place out for the longest time, but my girlfriend, who frequents this spot QUITE often, never wanted to take me..smh..I know you're reading this! Any who, I finally had the opportunity to try this place for one of her friends going away dinner. I was nervous, I am not going to lie, I've heard so many good things about this place and after my last experience with Korean food, (see my review for Seoul Restaurant) I was scared I would be turned off to this type of cuisine forever! As soon as the first order of food came out, I knew I was safe. The crispy fried chicken was crazy good, the skin was fried just right and the meat was moist. I was told I needed to dip it in the red sweet sauce provided, and I dipped like my life depended on it. We also had an order of the kim chi fried rice and bulgogi. The fried rice came out a little bland but I was able to overlook all that with the taste of bulgogi, which was on point, on queue and all in my belly. The sides they provided were plentiful and everyone enjoyed their meals. I have to say that I was so happy that I was able to come here because it totally renewed my appreciation for Korean food. The place is very dark and quiet but if you're truly after good food, you won't even notice. I am told they open late as this is convenient for all the club heads. I can not wait to go back to try other items on their menu, hopefully soon enough. Eat Up!

Best Korean place I've ever had. People always diss Sacramento food but there isn't no dissing here. Yes, the service isn't great but if you want great service, go to mickey D's or bk and have it your way. I always order alcohol like OB or Hite beer or soju bc Korean food love dranking and they make their food to taste better with alcohol. For sure, the spicy chicken (isn't a authentic Korean dish) is amazing and is catered to Americans. The Beef Bulgogi is always sizzling hot and the tofu soups are good, the unique thing about Korean cuisine is the side dishes and Sarang bang delivers, this place also opens up late so it's great to hang out here. The bathroom is always clean so that's always a plus.

Great food, esp late night. I am a tofu pot lover! I crave it almost every week. The bulgoki is ok. and side dishes are great. I like how it is laid back and they aren't on your back constantly. A great escape from boring sac.

  • CK T.

Food is excellent with the exception of their chicken wings that are more bone than meat. Service has always been extremely poor and slow at night. They rarely make their rounds. A customer should never have to approach the front counter for a refill of water at a sit-down restauraunt.

Sub-par service. The tofu in the din jang guk was sour. Also, we got kicked out for staying at our table after finishing our meal, even with other tables open.

Terrific food. We really enjoyed all the dishes we ordered: -spicy chicken (closest I've had to Kyochon's in Sacramento) -the spicy rice cake and noodles -kim chee and pork soup -fish cake soup. The missing star is for the strange seating rules. The three of us (including my very pregnant wife) were made to wait for about 25 minutes even though several larger tables (6 tops) sat empty, because, I guess they didn't want us to take a larger table. Even though it was a Saturday night these larger tables sat empty the entire time we were there. But the waitresses were nice and the food was great and we'll be back.

This place is very, very small. Hole in the wall kind of treasure. Open late night, till about 12 AM. Food is excellent! I love their seafood tofu soup. Portion sizes are decent. Price is average. You pay for what you get here. Food is yummy! Serivce is lacking. They keep forgetting about their patrons. Great for small group of friends. Overall, would definitely recommend it!

Having been told that Sarang Bang was the preferred place of one of my Korean Colleagues I was really looking forward to dining here. However I have to say the food was just OK. The price was a bit higher than at other Korean Places (Korea House), and the dining area was a bit too small and noisy/hot. We tried the Spicy Chicken and while nice was nothing special, and actually quite bony. The Seafood Pancake was tasty, but too eggy for our liking (more omelet like than a pancake). The spicy squid Bokkum was cooked well but could have been spicier, and did not really need the noodles. Finally, the banchan selection was mediocre. The Kimchee was on the bland side (could have used more salt/spice) The wasabi Broccoli was a strange side to have. Overall not a bad place but definitely not the "best" of Sacramento.

I mostly come here for the spicy chicken, bulgoki, and the spicy sausage dish. When you order, it comes with rice and little dishes of kimchi and such. The food overall is very good, but on a few nights I came in, the spicy chicken was a miss. I mean the sauce and everything was there, but it wasn't just crispy enough, which really changes things. You get decent service here......on a slow night. If it is a busy night, expect to wait 15-20 minutes to get seated in a booth, half an hour for your food to arrive and little to no service. As someone said before, it is sometimes hard to get the attention of the hostess....but it really depends on who is working. If you come in for a late night meal, you get the really nice hostess. Other than that, you get the one people think is intimidating. Even though the service is not fully there, the time you spend in your little semi-private booth with your friends and family makes up for all the bad decor and service.

When I review, I review FOOD ONLY. I do not care about service. So here goes. This place does not have service but the foods are good. A cozy, friendly Korean hole in the wall place ran by family. If you like spicy food, beer, and just a good night of non-sense, drunk, bs filled conversation with old friend -- this is the place to be. Wife and I love to go here. Love the spices, the small dishes and cozy environment. The fried chicken with spicy sauce, port belly meat stir-fry. Hot Tofu Pot, chick gizzards with garlic, seafood cake are the best. You have to be a little bit down to earth to enjoy this place. Please do not complain about the food because you can't handle the spices. Its only fair. 4 star. Thumbs up! Open late is a plus. :)

Ok.. out of all the places in Sacramento that are open late, this one rocks it. I mean come on? Open til 2am? You got to love that. The food is awesome. Other than that, well, I hate to be "racist" but, the service sucks. Its as if they really treat korean guests with more hospitality. Honestly. I mean come on! I come here to eat food but damn I can't eat the food if Im choking on it. Yes, everytime I go there, I get no water refils and or rice. Lately, they've been improving leaving pitchers of that tea water. So, I would have given 3 stars... but it deserves 4 because, this is by far my favorite Korean Resturaunt... service SUCKS... how many times did I say that?

oh i miss this place so much! many drunken college nights were spent here dining on their spicy chicken and soups. best to come with a korean who SPEAKS korean though. you get better service. i wonder if all my graffitti is still on its walls? oh and yes, VERY VERY VERY VERY SMALL (like 8 tables).

So the weather was rainy and cold so me and the fiance decided let's try some korean tofu soup. Not being of korean descent knew it was a risky proposition, I knew i'd have to order off the regular menu and all the "secret" menu items were not to be had today, oh where were my korean friends tonight. So followed everyones reviews on the seafood pancake pretty good but relatively speaking to the other dish i ordered it was awesome..now on to the other dish. I saw oh they got a 2person meal we should give it a try there's only the two of us. so i figured we got our seafood, let's get some out meat on!! for dish two. oh how i was so dissapointed. Coming from LA originally and a veteran of korean bbq my brain told me this dish #5 the mixed meat soup must be filled with delicous beef, chicken and pork goodies. What a horrible disgrace this dish was to the korean culture. This cauldron of soup come out to our table hot, and steam but the ingredients ahhh i never felt so dissapointed in a restaurant before. This dish had a red soup base and inside of it the "mixed meat" was slices of spam, and hot dogs and little bits of ground beef. i couldn't believe me eyes 24.95 for this Sh*t.. it had also kim chee, some of the rice ovalettes, some clear noodels and sitting on top of the soup was a block of instant ramen noodles. As i dug around deeper to see if there was anything good underneath i came up beans. i mean literally beans i swear i think the just dumped a can of beenie weenies cuz it had the hot dog bits and the beans. So 25bucks for an instant pack of top ramen, a can of beenie weenies and spam and some kim chee. yuck!!! Sorry Sarang Bang your 4star today was but 1

My friends can't stop talking about this place so on Tuesday afternoon we decided to venture out, when we got there it was almost 5pm and OMG! the doors were locked!!! did we just drive all the way from San Francisco only to find a restaurant we wanted to try to be closed!?! we tried to locate a phone number or store hours but none to be found (points off). I was not about to give up, so went to the dry cleaners next door to ask about their where abouts and *whew* they were gonna open at 5pm. when we walked in: lovely little place, lovely little lady and awesome food! it was a happy ending after all with full bellies.

Went back the other day after a drought of korean food in my system. There was only one woman serving and busing as well as working the cash register. I had never seen her before but she was very friendly and managed to stop by our table a few times for refills and whatnot despite how busy she was. The soondubu and bean paste soup we ordered came a bit slow but we had been warned by the server that the kitchen was rather busy and that orders were coming out slow that night. Luckily she had brought out the banchan early so my friend and I had something had to snack on while we waited. As usual Sarang Bang's food filled my stomach with spicy goodness that'll keep me coming back for more.

Horrible service. We went in as a family of two adults, and two children. They had multiple booths available, but told us they were holding them in case "bigger parties" came in. Told us there were no seats available for at least 25-30 minutes, even though there were at least 3 booths available, that were not reserved. We had an infant with us, it would have been nice to have been given good service and a table. Talk about greedy.

When I was in college I would come here twice a week, the food is great for a Korean Restaurant in Sacramento. I am not Korean but will say for eating Korean food from other California cities (i.e. LA's K-town) I will have to say the Korean food here is pretty good for being in Sac. Spiccccccy Chicken is all I have to say. I can eat a whole dish to myself but unfortunately have to share with my friends that go with me. The restaurant itself is small and the service is hit or miss (sometimes its not bad one night, sometimes you have to get up and ask for something - depends if they are busy too) but really, when I go to Sarang Bang - I go there for the food. If you're with a bunch of friends and want to get some tasty Korean food where you can be loud, drink, and chit chat - this place is great. Be warned, it gets busy here sometimes and with it being a small restaurant you may get unlucky and have to wait awhile for table - but man is the wait worth it!

Love this place. You have to try the spicy fried chicken and get the sauce on the side. I think the sauce is a combination of kimchi paste and ketchup. It is really addicting. I love that this place is open so late for sac. Everything I have had here is good. The kimchi fried rice, bulgogi, bibimbap, etc.

Spicy fried chicken WHATTTT bulgoki WHAT!!! tempura VEGIIES SUPER WHATTT! i gotta say this is the best Korean food in sac BY FAR everythings full of flavor and they open until 1:00am for non Koreans, yes i did mean it in that way ,my only complaint however is the staff which i learned to overcome because of the delicious food, like i said if your not korean you get the seat next to the bathroom with 3 other booths open service is sorta annoying but when im there im there for food and food only.

Yeah Been here quite a few times... the ladies there are super nice.. but they give you some herbal tea rather than water which you kinda have to get use to (its good for you they say). very nice and homey place... lots of good choices..my favorite..spicy chicken..and in daing good portions too.

i've been to korean restaurants through out california, i've even tried Los Angeles/k-towns famous Hidori and i'll swear that sarang bang can show them up on every dish imagineable. The kimchee fried rice is sooo good, along with their bolgolki, spicy rice cake and ramen, and kimchee jjiggae. On hungover days the kalbi tang is the perfect remedy, better than Pho! Sad to hear that people are hating on the service, its usually the petite owner whose waitressing alone and i know the place can usually be a drunkin loud zoo but she holds it together well. She's always very sweet when we come in, maybe some of you should loosen up, grab a bottle of soju and relaaaaax!

So many favorites over there... Seafood pancake, dolsot bibimbap, spicy tofu soup... All so good. It's weird they don't have water, just a cold toasted rice tea. I don't recommend going there for Korean BBQ, the service is not the best (although I wouldn't say that in front of the Korean ladies there, I'm not brave like that), the biggest table there fits 6 people, and it's in a seedy neighborhood, but hey - that's what a hole-in-the-wall is suppose to be! The food is really good and it's always satisfying.

Well considering the dearth of Korean restaurants in sacramento, this place is actually pretty good. It's not your typical korean restaurant though. It's more of a drinking establishment with food. So if you want to order a bunch of typical korean main dishes(ie galbi), you might not want to come here. They have a bunch of great dishes that are usually served with alcohol. Two of my favorites here are the tong-dak (whole chicken) and the budaechigae. Tong-dak is usually a whole rotisserie chicken where the skin comes out crispy. But they quarter the chicken and fry it. You can order it with sauce or dry. If you order it dry it comes with a salt, pepper and sesame seed seasoning you dip your chicken in. This dish usually comes with a sweet & sour pickled radish or moo and jalapenos. The budaechigae is basically a stew of ramen, rice cakes (dduk), SPAM, ham, hotdogs, tofu, onions, mushrooms in a spicy red bean paste broth. Historically budaechigae was first created back in the korean war by refugees who lived near US camps/bases. They would pick up the scraps from the soldiers (hence the spam) and whatever veggies they had and the boiled it up all together. So most koreans thought of budaechigae as kind of a low class food, but lately since they've elevated it to normal food now. Anyways, this is IMHO the best korean restaurant in Sac.

Love it, love it, love it. I am not Korean, but my wife is. While I must say that my mother-in-law makes the best Korean food, this is a close second (at least in the Sacramento area). Very laid back and a bit of a hole-in-the wall.. with some holes in the wall. They always have really good banchan and their soups are excellent. Also a good place to grab a drink or two.

I heard about the infamous lady that works here, but apparently she wasn't working at midnight when we arrived so the service was fine. It's a comfortable place with sappy Korean love songs being played in the background. My girlfriend ordered the spicy chicken and I had the sliced beef with korean special sauce. The serving size for the spicy chicken is pretty big. Both were very good, and the sides that you get with your dinner are pretty cool (kim chi, pickled radishes, macaroni salad, spicy bean sprouts, broccoli w/butter/horseradish). I was disappointed that the kim chi wasn't very good; it tasted like the cheap kind you get in a jar. This place is cool though, and I would come back again to try the other dishes.

I was never disappointed when I used to come here when I was in Davis. I would not mind the 30 minute drive to eat here. Sarangbang's bulgogi is one of the best I've had ever. Beside's my Korean girlfriend's mom's and grandma's home-cooked bulgogi, I have never been obsessed with this dish. I order it everytime I go here. Their roasted chicken and spicy chicken are also delicious in addition to the bu-dae chi-geh was also very tasty. The tea they serve is also The restaruant is also open pretty late at night so it's not uncommon to see students out there along with Korean regulars. One downside is that they never have the soju flavor that I want so I have to order another flavor.

I've been coming here about 6 years. The best Korean food I've had and the only place open late at night worth eating. A little out of the way, but I gladly drive it for delicious food late at night. I'm a vegetarian, but Kimchi Fried Rice with no meat, tofu soup with no meat, their spicy cold noodles, and they'll make vegetables stir-fried with noodles for me. Their boricha (cold barley tea) that they serve instead of water is refreshing and cools spiciness much better than water ever will. My friends love the bulgogi, stir-fried octopus, and seafood hot pot here. The little plates of kimchi they give you with your meal is DELICIOUS. About the service, yeah it kinda sucks. But the ladies there know me so well I get treated a little better than most it seems like. Just be respectful, smile, say please and thank you, and don't be afraid to get up to ask for the check. It's family style here. It took me about 10 times to get on her good side. But to me, it's worth it for the yumminess of the food.

this place is made for the young. is a vibrant atmosphere and the food is pretty good. your expected to walk up and grab a beer out of the fridge if you want one here, sounds good yeah? everything here is pretty good. it isnt a korean bbq place so dont expect that. the line can be pretty long if you come after 10 pm so beware. its a hang out spot.

The food here is just OK. I would have rated it a 4 if it wasn't for the horrible service. The male waitor was OK but the female waitress was horrible. I had never experienced a worser service. The waitress was very rude to us. Call me judgemental, but I felt she was racist. She seemed to be friendly and attentive towards the Koreans but with the "non-Koreans", she was just plain disrespectful and rude. If it wasn't for my boyfriend, I would have walked out of the restaurant the minute she seated us. Yes, it was that bad! If you want to be treated like you are a customer, find another Korean restaurant. There is one down Folsom road just 6 minutes away called Tofu House. They have good food and better service there. To me, if the service is bad, no matter how good the food is, I will not come back a second time. Besides, the food here is just average.

love love love this place. besides eating at a korean resturant in vegas this by far is the best! the seafood soup is great if u have a big party going with u. i personally like the side pork with the tofu and kimchi that's my fav oh and the squid with kimchi and noodles OMG! love the little side dishes that comes with our meal. my husband loves the tofu soup that comes in that lil black clay bowl/pot type of thingy they bring that over piping hot and they crack and egg over it for u. service will suck cuz they only have one waitress working (idk y).good thing is that i know one of the waitress that works there. she actually works at kaiser during the day and comes to say hi to me every once in a while so i feel like i kina sorta get special treatment when i go there. we dont have to wait as long for our food and we always get a little xtra of the side dishes or maybe im just thinking that lol anywho........... this place is def a lil hole in the wall its kinda scary at night if ur driving in by urself ladies cuz there's a bar right nxt door that makes me think of old drunk stinky men who are always outside smoking hehehe. this place is a must in sac for korean food. oh i forgot to mention the spicy chicken omg bomb diggity!!! pancake is good also.

Sarangbang is a good place to drink late at night. Their food is good, but there's one waitress that gives terrible service. The other waitress is very sweet.

It was my first visit to Sac town. I didnt expect I will be able to find a good corean restaurant since i m from LA. However, this place is pretty good. If you are feel like corean food and soju in Sac town, this is the place = )

Only reason this place gets a 4 from me is b/c the kimchee rice is orgasmic, the foods pretty good, and the hours are cool; open super late till 3 AM on Fri-Sat. Omg... service is horrible but that b/c these waitresses are super Korean and it's a cultural classist thing i think... they're not into manners apparently.

Good Food. serivce is almost demand based, and self-service. It's open late, so it's a great place to get a home cooked meal!

Food delicious, service horrible, but my boyfriend says its because they're Korean. Who knows. I love the bulgogki, I don't know if that's how you spell it, but its seasoned perfectly. And they're sake is great!!

horrible horrible service and the food was so so. if you don't need to be inebriated to enjoy your food, then i would not recommend this place as an eating establishment. on the other hand, if you want to drink lots of soju and have a jolly time with your friends in a divey, dark restaurant late into the evening, then this place is perfect (and there are those times when you do).

let me just say that their service is horrible.. the lady at the front didnt even greet us when we came in.. she must be mute or something.. i like the tea that they have there.. and it seems as though if you are not korean they do not pay much attention to the patrons... the food is good.. service is horrible..

One of my favorite Korean restaurants in Sac. Open late so it is good to come and feed the munchies after a night out. Come here with your freinds and have good Korean BBQ and other Korean menu items. They serve you barley tea which was really unique and it grew on me after coming there a few times. The entrees are inexpensive and I love the seafood dish (forgot what it was called) but it was good for 3 people and was $20. The meal always comes with the usual Korean sidedishes of Kim Chi, rice, spiced potatoes and other Korean condiments to eat along with the entree. There isn't any extra charges for the tea and condiments which makes me come back.

i love korean food so my best friend took me here..it's kind of in a weird location behind a gas station and next to some whole in the wall bar but i never discriminate against location unless i might get shot! =P...the hostess didnt look very friendly but she ended up being nice...we ordered the spicy chicken and spicy tofu soup. the chicken looked very very saucy ad spicy but it wasnt that spicy which i was happy about. i liked how they used half chicken and cut them into pieces for this dish and it came with a side of pickled daicon (spelling?) which goes very well with the chicken.. like regular korean restaurants they served up about 8 little side dishes of different kim chees and veggies. The spicy tofu soup was really good and sure hit the spot on a cold night like tonight. the hostess made sure she refilled our waters when they were low or empty which was nice...the food was good the atmosphere was very inviting for a place to go eat and drink with friends (but tables dont fit more then 4)... i would come back here again.
