Very creative, offers a lot more options, especially the most different slices. And they have vegan options. Open late. Always enjoy this place.

One of the best late night pizza places in sac. Pesto pepperoni is so good! The duck slices are always a good deal

One worker last night was really unprofessional and disrespectful. I explained to the nice bespectacled brunette that I didn't receive 1 out of 5 slices. She remembered me paying for 5 pizzas. There was a miscommunication between the cashier and the Hispanic male putting the slices in the oven (which is fine, things happen) I explained what slices I received and the one I was missing . Out of no where , a male worker with longer blonde hair and a du rag walked by and says "your story isn't adding up man, we don't sell meat ball pepperoni slices , sorry can't help you " and he said it in the most disrespectful way, the nice brunette had to apologize for him. The blonde worker walked by me and I calmly explained to him that it was disrespectful to accuse a long time customer and advocate of the business of lying or being a liar, and going forward he should stop and analyze a situation before accusing anyone of lying over $6, when I paid over 30 for 5 slices ..in midsentence he just walked away and saluted me with a sarcastic tone. (Unbelievable) The hispanic male also apologized for the mix up but the only coaching for him is to not throw Ur frustration to Ur customers. In the confusion he didn't keep his composure , he said twice " hey man do you see all the customers I'm dealing with right now, everything I have to do, look at all this , man " Pizza was good. :) will change my rating if I recieve an apology from the owner . You can email. Casamofleh@Gmail.com Thx

It's okay. It's very inconsistent though. No onsite management I've ever seen. Perfect place for late night bite after a bender. Not so great if you're not one of the hammered patrons who frequent this place. It's pretty expensive. Last time I ordered a slice on my lunch break to find out it was burnt to a crisp and stale. Time before that it was pretty delicious. Time before that they had plenty of options. Yet the time before that, they had no options. Zero pizza slices available because the pizza maker was on a smoke break and it's not the job of the other workers to do it (So I was told.) Just inconsistent but oh well...

    Incredible staff! Superb vegan pesto!

May the forces of Pesto and Pepperoni UNITE!!!! PESTOOOOOORONI!!!! Wandering aboot last night and hark! Thou hearest a loud sound grumbling...oh that's my freakin stomach eating my spine! Food...need to find food now. Pieces, but wait do I have cash on me?! O M G I do! It's on like Donkey Kong. As you have already read in previous reviews this is one of the few establishments left on planet (soon to be zilch) earth that is cash only. Is that a pain in the arse? Sometimes only if you don't have that paper on ya, but I do understand it. Luckily the place wasn't packed so I was able to take my time and fog up the little glass partition that separates a hungry fiend like myself from the display of pizza pies on the other side. I wanted pesto that's for sure, but there wasn't one with pepperoni already on it......"I can put some pepperoni on a slice for you if you like" says the lovely voice on the other side of the glass. YES YES PLEASE! "How about some fresh garlic on as well?" .......Have we met? Are you psychic? Throw on the garlic you pizza angel! Got a nice cold Stella Artois to go with my slice and I was back to being human again. Everyone has their favorite pizza establishment. I heart this neighborhood pizza joint and am totally infatuated with the pestoroni with garlic. If you have cash or enough loose change stop in and grab a slice.

There is a little piece of cholesterol in my heart because of this place. The pizza is the best I've had west of the Mississippi.

  • Christina M.

I used to go to pieces all the time and I loved it. But this last trip I had the worst customer service. The girl working was an idiot...she must have just smoked a bunch of bammer. $7 for a slice of veggie pizza is too much, especially if it doesn't come with cheese! Prob won't come again unless I'm hammered and got money to blow, but most likely not. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because I miss the good days. RIP

  • Patti M.

Like any other "by the slice" pizza place, EXCEPT they have lots of vegetarian and vegan options that are personalizable. Close the place we were staying, so we brought back the pizzas. No takeout "boxes," though, they just stuck the pizza on a plate and in a paper bag.

Always a favorite! Lived downtown and loved them. Now I live outside the area and will drive to get a slice! Always awesome and filling!

If you're into reheated pizza that sits there for who knows how long, this is the place for you.

Reliable and wonderful food. Can get busy, but like ricks they do their best to keep waits short. Long time fan of pieces.

    (5)
  • Roger S.

If you're over 25, not drunk, and even halfway care about what you eat, just skip this place. This is pure drunk food. All the previous good reviews are obviously by stupid drunk people. My pepperoni slice was greasy and surprisingly flavorless. At almost $7 for one slice, I left doing the walk of shame, like after a bad one night stand.

  • Latda V.

I really like Pieces by the Slice. It's in the perfect location if you're out downtown having a few drinks and then you realize you're in need of soakage! LOL. I like the pesto pizza with tomatoes and cheese. It's a pretty big slice, one will do you good. I usually order one and the babes orders something different and we share. Sharing is caring, half the calories! Workers are nice. We come here at night so the wait is a little longer. I'm a fan. Yay!

    (4)
  • Frank G.

mediocre at best. it's mostly pizza that has sat out under the lamp for a while. that's my experience. and the lamp didn't help all that much. maybe there's not even a lamp. but it sits out waiting sometimes. and those are times I'd like to go just down the block to an authentic quiet dark and cool place with a juke box that works sometimes.

What is that haunting aroma?! Ginormous pizza by the slice! They have out of the ordinary kinds like the pesto-roni that I have yet to try. My family wanted pizza for dinner and I remembered Pieces was nearby (also had it bookmarked). I noticed it was a small place, nothing fancy here but they serve the best pizza! We ordered the pepporoni and sausage and that thing was loaded with cheese, even loads of cheese in the crust. Yumm I was so full, everyone left a happy camper. Would've been better with a glass of root beer ;-) They're open on the weekends until 3am?? That would've been nice to know when i had those midnight pizza cravings that Digiorno couldn't satisfy (lol, jk). Well now I know!

    (4)
  • Aneilia M.

Open until midnight on a Sunday?!?! Thank you! I've come here twice now in the last 30 days and what can I say, I enjoy a slice of their mushroom pizza. Under $5, large portion and great for staving off a hangover the next day. Many, many condiments to choose from to adorne your slice of pizza and adorable woven paper plate holders that take you back to days of yore.

  • Mark J.

If your looking for a good late night pizza place come here great selections and you can have them add extra toppings to customize your taste buds But be prepared to take cash with you they only take cash :)

    (5)
  • Billy A.

One slice is plenty filling. So much flavor and a fresh as it gets.

  • Nick C.

Gotta love the owner of this place he's a really good guy! We were a bit short for a full pie and he hooked it up . So delicious and worth it . Don't really enjoy the new guys to much to be honest.

I'm not from Sacramento but my boyfriend lives out here in Midtown and has always wanted me to try this place. I want to give this spot more stars since they have yummy pizza and the guys working behind the counter were very nice and approachable. What I was uncomfortable with was the fact that there were 2 women casually sitting on the counter next to the cash register. I felt uncomfortable getting water that was next to this girls ass while she was casually drinking. When our pizza was done, the girls got up but the dudes put the pizza right where their ass was. This left a bad impression about the spot and made me wonder what else they are lenient about when it comes to sanitation and professionalism. I understand that it's just a pizza spot and I'm not sure if these girls worked here or friends visiting the guys but it was super tacky. I mean, what kind of customer enjoys seeing this before they eat?

    (3)
  • Tim H.

They don't have the best pizza but it is very good pizza and for pizza by the slice around Sacramento it is the best. The hours are nice because I usually get a late craving for this place and they are open when I get that craving. Prices are reasonable for quality and size.

This is most definitely one of my favorite pizza joints in Sac. If I stay away too long, I begin to get withdrawals. Yes...it's that serious to me. This pizza is just as good as a lazy weekday lunch as it is a late light snack after the club or bar hopping. Everyone who works there are so friendly, and more than deserve the tips I give with every visit. Their claim to fame is their pesto (which they make there), feta and sundried tomato slice. We get that every time, as well as the mushroom and olive (my favorite). I always get fresh garlic on each slice (they ask if you want that with each slice). The garlic and pesto twist breadsticks are pretty great too. They carry some obscure sodas (i.e. Bubble Up, Fanta), plus all the regular stuff. They always have a few (store bought) desserts in their glass case, but for me..it's all about the pizza. Oh Pieces...don't ever change!

    (5)
  • Joseph G.

I'll keep this review quick. Pieces is by far the best pizza joint in town. The staff is always friendly and the quality of ingredients is top notch. This place is great whether I'm blacked out drunk at 2:00 am or stone sober at noon. You'll definitely see some interesting characters the later you get here, but that adds to the place's charm. I highly recommend the Pesto-Roni and if they have any pesto sticks order one with chipotle ranch. This is the best pizza in Sacramento and if you love supporting local businesses this is an excellent place to spend a few dimes.

  • Marney K.

Friendly service and the vibe is real hip! The pizza was slightly too hot. I burnt my mouth! It was worth it though, their pizza was SCREAMIN'!!! Waaaaay too overpriced! What happened to the days were you could get a quality slice o' pie for $3.75? My pestaroni was $6.75! Crust was cooked to perfection! Thin and crispy! But the outer shell was thick and stuffed with pesto! They baked it with a little garlic on it too! Loved it!

I went in with a group of friends around 1:30am ready for some pizza. I have celiac's disease and we came here because they supposedly have gluten free crust. We get there, stand in line only to find out they were out of gluten free pizza. Okay :-( But when I asked the lady, she had the gall to tell me, "well if you come during the day we have it" and made it seem like its too late for GF pizza, and how dare I ask so late. Unfortunately people with celiac's cant turn on and off their disease. It's with us 24/7. I understand running out of pizza. I'm okay with that. My friends all ordered their slices and seemed happy with them. I was fine, but don't give me attitude when I ask about GF pizza, and don't make it seem like I am inconveniencing you. To me that was disrespectful. I can not eat regular pizza because my body rejects it. Just tell me you're out or you dont have any. Its all good. But please do not insult me by telling me to have come during the day, and that it is an inconvenience to you to have GF pizzas at night. As far as the actual taste and quality of the pizzas goes, I cant speak on that. All my friends seemed to enjoy their slices. I did enjoy my peanut M & M's and water :-)

  • Molly O.

Great pizza! Order the pestoroni-- YUM! Open until 3am, unless they run out of pizza. One negative-- their pizza is way over priced. However, after a night of drinking, it's the perfect fix.

Amazing small spot located in midtown Sacramento. They have a plethora of choices for toppings and their specialty is pesto pizza. Everything from Pesto bread sticks for $3.50, pesto ranch (!!!), pesto pizza with sundried tomatoes/feta cheese...the list goes on. To no surprise, I am the biggest pesto fan, so I can definitely count on Pieces to have my pesto pizza craving hot & ready for pickup the minute I walk in. They even offer gluten-free or vegan, draft beers for $4, and a happy hour from 3pm-6pm. Open until 11pm on weekdays and 2:30am on weekdays (WINTER HOURS), this place is sure to be open whenever you have your late-night cravings or spend a night out with friends.

    (4)
  • Brian C.

Had no vegan pizza at 1030p when closing at midnight. Dropped what was custom made on floor. They did refund the money though, but I had waited for 15 mins.

  • David P.

First of all, I really love places that serve pizza by the slice and I'm also more than willing to spend over $6 for some really good pizza, but sadly the slice I had today wasn't very good. I ordered the chicken club pizza with bell peppers and red sauce and I thought it was under seasoned but salty. I also didn't like the big pieces of raw garlic inside the sauce. The thing Pieces has going for it though are the late night hours, so if you're in need for a slice at 2am it's the place to be. Blah, I really wanted to love this place like so many others but I'm guessing alcohol consumption might've had an impact on some reviewers' positive reviews. Maybe I just chose the wrong slice but first impressions mean everything to me and I can't see myself coming back and paying the regular high prices for pizza. Tip: They sometimes offer older slices of pizza for just $2 in the refrigerator.

  • Sofia A.

Kind of on the pricey end, but good pizza. They have cheese stuffed crust, can't go wrong there. And it's cash only. But overall, good food.

    (4)
  • Lafayette A.

It's okay, nothing great. They put way too much cheese on the pizzas and only take cash. If you have no other options then go there but if you're not crippled, have a RT pass, car, plane, train or bicycle then go elsewhere.

    (2)
  • L C.

Hands down the best pizza in town! And one of the best pizzas that I have ever had. They are open late so it is a perfect place to eat after going out. One tip is to never order an entire pizza here. I drunkenly made this mistake and the entire pizza cost about $45 and took almost an hour to make. I guess thats why you don't order an entire pizza from a place called "Pieces Pizza by the Slice." Although it was still AMAZING. Especially the pesto chicken half of the pizza.

  • Andy N.

Being someone who never really carries cash around, I was a little bummed out when I found out that they are cash only. Not a huge deal since they have Chase right across the street, however, not being a chase member I had to fork over $2.50 for a withdrawal, but that's on me, not Pieces. The pizza is extremely delicious, albeit expensive. I drop about $20 for about 4 slices per visit, but well worth it. The staff is always really nice, the pizza is heated in a brick oven when you pick it out, and they have Tabasco. Go Tabasco. Also, they sell good beer at quality prices. Definitely an underrated establishment.

    (5)
  • Kara B.

Pizza by the slice and can come with pesto! I'm all about the crust and it is so crunchy and to die for here! So delicious. Cash only so be prepared for that.

    (4)
  • Gardner H.

Bar none, the best slice of pizza you can buy in Sacramento. If you are driving down 21, and blink, you might miss them, but this small little pizza shop is definitely worth a visit. I've never been disappointed by any of their pizzas, but i am partial to ANYTHING with their pesto sauce. It's ridiculously good, and they fold it into the crust...so the crust is amazing as well. Not a bad beer selection either. I like to get an Arrogant Bastard with a slice of their veg pesto pizza with extra garlic.

  • Ainsley C.

I had to write a review for others like me living in the land of the gluten free. Yes, this place has gluten free dough, and they will make you a custom personal pizza -- for the same price as a slice! I have cried over my pizza drought (more than once), so when a friend invited me for "pizza and beer," I went for the company, not the food or drink. But lo and behold! Twin Rivers Cider and a decent gluten free personal pizza made me a very happy (and still gluten free and vegetarian) camper! My only very small complaint is the lack of flavor in the crust, but the toppings more than made up for it.

    (4)
  • Brad D.

I spontaneously found this place while walking through midtown late one night and I had to try it out. I ordered the garlic pesto and it was pretty darn good. I like how they have like 100 different hot sauces that you can customize your pizza with. I love cheese pizza with a little bit of Tabasco and I've never been able to have that at a restaurant. It was a little pricey, but that's not necessary a bad thing since it was such a good slice of pizza. Still, I feel like it if was $2 - $3 a slice instead of $5, they'd have the perfect business plan. Also, don't forget to bring cash! No cards accepted here.

    (4)
  • Gayle L.

The only place to eat pizza in sacramento. The crust is awesome and full of flavor. The only drawback is that they only accept cash. No over rated decor. Just great pizza

    (5)
  • Ashley B.

Decent. Depends what you are looking for. The crust/dough is thicker than my personal preference, but it is delicious. There is a good variety and the toppings taste fresh. Good place to get a cold beer and enjoy with yummy pizza. Also, enjoy a little theater of the living as there are some interesting characters around here along with a tree with a scarf. ;-)

    (4)
  • Laura S.

The one plus is that they are open late, which also means they are crowded and it takes 30 plus minutes to get a slice. I find the dough too thick and something off putting about the sauce they use. This pizza is ok in a pinch or for late night (which is significantly limited in midtown), but given a choice I would go elsewhere for good high quality pizza.

    (2)
  • Mas D.

Seriously the most awesome pizza I've ever had. I never miss a chance to grab a slice when I'm visiting. And the crust. Oh my the crust is worth stealing from your friends for. A quick tip, you they have rainy day specials and you can get cold pizza slices too. Mmmmmmmmmmmm

    (5)
  • Steve M.

I can not tell you just how many slices of Pizza I ate here from roughly 1997 through 2006, but it was A LOT! We would visit pieces at least 2-3 nights a week after our now famous pub crawls through the grid. Weather it was the pesto, cheese, pepperoni, or the potato, Pieces never let us down. So many great memories were made at and around pieces. Half of the fun is watching the diverse and entertaining drunk crowds as they filter in and out. I have started taking my kids here on occasion since the pub crawl days are long gone. The magic lives on folks, yes even when you are stone cold sober! I cannot give them anything but 5 Stars.

    (5)
  • Becca K.

I only gave it one star so I could write this review. They are assholes. Denied us breadsticks because they were "too busy"- it was dead. The employee at the register I'm pretty sure didn't know her own name and then charged is FORTY FIVE DOLLARS for a pepperoni pizza. I could make it for $.65 . This place is a joke and is full of liars. I am beyond furious. Go anywhere else. Anywhere. I hate this business- if you can call if that- and will NEVER return. Run.

  • Brook Y.

The most memorable slice I've ever consumed in my lifetime: Pineapple Bacon from Pieces. I'm ashamed to admit I've been coming here post-drunken evening for the better part of ten years, but they are open late and close to Press Club :) And I'll admit, when I neeeeeeed garlic twists, I have waited 20 minutes for them. I only care so much that they reheat the pizza in the oven to order and that everyone that works here either has dreadlocks or excessive facial hair (yes I'm talking about the females). However... I have many a fond memory of a simpler time, when there was only one place to go downtown for food at 2am, and though best friends may come and go, I have had a slice on a paper plate with every single one of them at Pieces.

  • Carrie M.

Love the pesto with sundries tomatoes! Reminds me of my old college days. Great prices and great pizza !

    (5)
  • Angel M.

Their slices are pretty big, but it's expected for $4-5 a slice. The sell beer and soda and have cool combinations of pizza, like Pepperoni and pesto. I feel like it's a cool place to just come and get something to eat, kind of like a huge hot dog stand, where all you want is the food and leave. They do have seats and stuff but it's just one of those places to get your slice and take off!

    (3)
  • Drew L.

I was dragged out of bed to go to Pieces with my friends for the first time. When we got there the owner was working hard on getting the pizzas prepped but still took a moment to introduce himself and point us in the direction of the menu while giving us some suggestions. We ended up getting a "pestoroni" pizza that was beyond compare to other pizzas I've had here on the west coast. You watch them make it fresh as they toss the dough, spread the sauce, cheese, and toppings out to the edge before rolling the crust (none of which done sparingly.) The pieces you get are huge, with two being enough to put me well past full. I've been back several times since and have never had a bad piece of pizza at Pieces Pizza by the Slice!

    (5)
  • Rich A.

I love this place! My wife and I go there every couple weeks to get our pizza fix. The prices are a tiny bit high but well worth it in my opinion. The pizza slices are amazing. They come up with the best topping combos and use very fresh veggies. The staff is super friendly as well. It looks like a little whole in the wall, but don't let that turn you away...its a little gem.

    (4)
  • Lynnise D.

Really good pizza, the crust is amazing. It happened to be a busy late late night when I ate here so I wasn't able to enjoy the pizza I wanted but the slice I had to settle for was still pretty good. I will return to try a few more slices. A great place to come after drinks or partying with friends on the weekends open late night.

  • Roxanne J.

I just had my first taste of Pieces pizza this week and it was scrumptious! Since my eyes were bigger than my stomach, I ordered 2 pieces - the pesto-feta-sundried tomato, and a special celebration piece featuring carnitas, green chilis and an array of Mexican flavors. Needless to say, I took most of it home since the pieces were huge! My 87yr old parents accompanied me, and even though they are light eaters, they each finished their respective slices. My dad devoured his meatlover's piece and my mother savored every last morsel of her Hawaiian pie. And even though my dad is very religious and couldn't verbalize the name of his beer, he thoroughly enjoyed his chilled glass of Arrogant Bastard. I'm only sorry that it took me so long to discover such an iconic downtown eatery! I will be recommending this establishment to all of my N.Cal friends!

  • Dave S.

Why can't this place be cheaper!!!! This is the best pizza in Sac, but I can still only give it 3 stars because the price is absolutely outrageous. $4+ for any slice of pizza is just insane. I don't understand how they can justify charging this much. The only reason I go here is because it's open late compared to competitors. If you can stomach spending $9-10 for a couple slices of pizza, then Pieces is a great place. If you're like me, and are used to paying around $3 a slice, than Pieces will sadly be reserved for drunken late-night outings where I don't mind paying and everything else is closed.

    (3)
  • Andrew L.

LOVE their pizza here. I'm tempted to take a star off because it's so expensive, but then again, where else can you get dinner for $5 or $6? The one thing that sold me on this place is them asking you if you want fresh garlic before they heat your slice. Hell yes, I do! I don't care that I'm going to have garlic breath in bed because my SO will as well. She and I both adore this place. It's a low-key spot for a good late night slice.

    (5)
  • Jason G.

One large slice at Pieces actually can be a meal - the pepperoni was that classic greasy cheesy pizza, you know, the kind that you have to use lots of napkins dabbing the slice before you even start eating. Then there's the crust that's filled with more cheese. All of that equates to delish and good ol' American pizza, no Italian style here, just give me the meat and cheese and I'll exercise more tomorrow to work it off.

    (5)
  • Hope R.

Great pizza available until 3am on the weekends!!! They will actually stay open as long as there are customers. You stand in line and get to choose from the pizzas available. There are many types of sauces including red, garlic, and pesto plus you can add toppings of your choice. Sometimes there is a long line but they do their best to serve everyone as quickly as possible. They also have beer and desserts. There is inside seating and some tables out front.

  • Rachel A.

I'm really surprised at the high reviews of this place. The pizza was so incredibly salty I/we almost couldn't eat it. Maybe it was a bad night? All four of us agreed that it wasn't very good. We had the pesto, veggie and peperoni. Also it seemed a bit overpriced too, for the quality. I did like the strawberry lemonade. Staff was kind of rude (guy at counter), girl was nice, overall not that great of an experience, spent a lot of money just to get full, and were NOT satisfied. You can spend that much at Hot Italian and get a FANTASTIC pizza there. I won't be going back. side note: It only seems like a good place to go if you are drunk and it's late night, then maybe extremely salty pizza might taste good to you.

  • Pedro C.

Great Pizza! They are always really nice and stay open Late on weekends! Which is a plus in my book! Also every time I go they remember me Makes me feel like part if the community. A definite plus for anyone living in Midtown! Not to mention the pizza crust melts on your mouth!!

    (5)
  • Amber M.

Excellent! I seriously haven't had such good pizza by the slice, ever! I got the vegetarian pizza. I asked them if they could add garlic, feta and sun dried tomatoes to it & they didn't hesitate. Omg and their pesto bread sticks....to die for! They had outdoor seating, so the boy and I enjoyed some fresh air. I totally will be going back. Plus, they are open until 3am, that's always a plus!

  • Carol G.

Pieces is the go to place after a long night of drinking! They are open late and there's always a line on the weekends. This place is honestly a busy hole in the wall business that has become one of my fave in sac! I recommend their pesto pepperoni! Their slices are HUGE and their dough is like a breadstick! It is a little greasy... But cmon what pizza isn't! One thing about them is a lot of late weekend nights they run out of pizza! They are also cash only, but there is a chase bank right across the street! One of my fave pizza go tos in midtown.

My absolute favorite, favorite, FAVORITE pizza place in all of Sacramento, hands-down. I have literally dreamed of this pizza place before. My husband had been driving me crazy for months to take me here, and every day I have to look at myself in the mirror in shame that I hadn't visited here sooner. I became a vegetarian at the beginning of this year. I was taken to Pieces to have a slice of this insanely delicious pesto pizza I had been hearing about. I was underwhelmed by the plain decor, which was a good thing - all the furniture inside is super comfortable, even if the restaurant isn't fancy. And it's very cool inside, oh my goodness. A bonus on a hot day, for sure. Anyways, I put a piece of this garlic pesto pizza in my mouth after the very friendly and helpful young ladies (wow, I sound old) took our orders, and my entire world was rocked. A perfect amount of cheese, sauce, garlic...it's like they know pizza sorcery. It was only one slice, but really, one slice is all you need here - they are HUGE. And addicting, you've been warned. In the last 8 months I've sent my husband on more trips to pick up random-craving slices than I can count, and I'm not even pregnant. I became a vegan about two months ago, and since I can no longer eat my beloved pesto pizza, I still can eat at my favorite local pizza joint because they also offer us vegans a delicious vegan pizza option as well. I tried it and also instantly fell in love. SO. MANY. VEGETABLES. My goodness. I devoured the whole slice with great eagerness and I sincerely appreciate that they offer us vegans an enormous slice of goodness as well. They also offer a nice beverage selection. Just be sure to bring cash, since it is a cash-only restaurant! And remember to tip, they deserve it - the staff is always super nice! This place will definitely be getting all my business as long as it stays around, which I hope is forever. I wish they could deliver, or that technology was advanced enough to teleport pizza slices to my kitchen, because I would be teleporting the heck out of Pieces Pizza by the Slice. Just typing this review is making my mouth water.

Been frequenting here late night for years. CASH ONLY! The pesto pizza is by far the best pesto anything I have eaten in Sacramento. I typically get two slices of pestoroni and an order of pesto sticks. The slices are big, so the only reason I get two slices is to have one for later. The crust on this pizza is the only crust that I look forward to eating as much as the pizza itself, they put pesto in the crust then roll it up, it's so good! The staff is always friendly and ready to make you any pizza you want. Don't see what you want up there? They almost always have cheese pizza ready to put any topping on you like. Vegan? They even have pizza choices for you. One of my good friends doesn't eat any dairy, so this was an option for him, he said the vegan pizza was really good too.

Very large and oh so yummy slices of pie! Good selection of tried and true pizzas, this place sure lived up to its reputation on being a great place to grab a slice. I had the pesto cheese, paid a bit more than expected, but damn tasty and worth it. Good, but small selection of beers and of course sodas. Cash only, so be prepared for that. Other than that, I was impressed. I can see why this place is popular with the late-night booze crews.

**CASH ONLY** Looking for FRESH, DELICIOUS, HUGE, LATE NIGHT STUFFED-CRUST PIZZA?? Well, You've come to the right place!! Pieces dishes up one of the BEST pizzas I've ever had!! Came here late night and the line was pretty long so be prepared to wait! They put all the pizzas they have available on display so you can choose which ones you want. When I went they were offering cheese pizza with pesto sauce, sausage and pepperoni, and veggie pizza! I opted for their veggie pizza and ordered two slices (my eyes are obviously bigger than my stomach!) and my friends both ordered their pesto cheese pizza. Nick helped us at the front counter and was AMAZING! He was not only extremely friendly but even offered us fresh pizza that had just come out of the oven!! A++ for customer service!! Our order was up and ready within five minutes and tasted amazing!! Slices are HUGE and definitely worth $6!! My veggie pizza was packed with spinach, mushrooms, red onions, olives, and so many other things! (you can always look at the picture I posted) They even fill their huge braided pizza crust with cheese and was delicious---I almost finished the entire slice! Since this place is pretty small it does tend to get busy really fast and finding seating ca be a hassle at times. Luckily, a party was leaving so we were able to snatch their table! This is more of a to-go establishment (similar to how Chipotle is run) as workers don't have time to wipe down tables, etc. (I don't blame them since it gets so busy at nighttime) so don't expect everything to be spotless. They are open late on weekends (until 2AM) but at it nears 2AM your pizza options will dwindle as you'll have to choose from whatever they have left. Overall, a MUST TRY!!!

I love the pesto pizza with feta and sun dried tomatoes at Pieces. Every bite, right down to the crust, is pure bliss. Sure, I may wish it were a little cheaper, or that they accepted debit cards, or that the restaurant were cleaner, or that there were fewer vagrants loitering near the entrance, but all those concerns disappear when I'm eating my slice. Look at the picture I uploaded. That pizza is half gone. In almost every other picture I've uploaded to Yelp, the food is untouched. I just couldn't wait. My daughter always gets the pesto cheese pizza (the "green slice"), and though it's a pretty big slice for a six-year-old, she usually finishes it. It's also the only place where she eats the entire crust. The service is good, too. On this particular visit, my daughter wanted a straw for her glass of water (the glasses are kind of big and heavy for a kid), but they were out. To make up for it, they gave us a free bottled water, which was easier for her to manage. Pieces has a reputation as a late night, post-bar pizza place, but that's selling it short. There's never a bad time for a good slice of pizza.

I love pizza! Again, i love it and their pesto, olive/mushroom, and combo vegies are mouth watering. But Dom C. recommended something else to go along w/our pizzas and that is, the garlic/pesto bread sticks. The garlic bread sticks are crunchy, slightly soft but overwhelmingly flavorful. Ask for some fresh pesto and pesto/ranch sauce to give it a kick! Overall rating--4/5, the pizza is awesome but a CASH only establishment. I would give it 5/5 but they made a mistake with one of our orders, but you know what, no one is perfect and i would definitely come back for seconds. More bread sticks please! =D

LOVE this place. It's very special which is why it's been open for 20 yrs! They make great pizza, are open l ate, and are super nice! If you have a topping you like that they don't carry, you can bring it in and request to have it put on which they will gladly do. I like that the pizza has options for sauces such as pesto and marinara with garlic, a great crust and a crispy bottom. The place is into recycling which is a huge plus. It's great for late night as well as during the day and has a good amount of seating, so if you come w a group of friends it's great for your group. Don't forget to check out their awesome array of hot sauces to spice up your pizza and your life ;)

I just fell in love with Pieces!! A small hole in wall, yet the pizza is probably some of the best I've ever had. The slices are enormous and the crust is like a soft and gooey breadstick itself. I would highly recommend the pesto-roni dipped in pesto ranch. I am not much for vegan food but their vegan pizza was amazing as well. I was thoroughly impressed by the plethora of hot sauces that were available for dipping as well. Great pizza, friendly staff, and fair pricing! If you are a lover of pizza I suggest you get to Peices today.

Pizza pretty much rules my life. Pizza can be eaten any day any time. Pieces is the ultimate late night spot to satisfy those drunken cheesy cravings. You walk into this small shop where there's always a line and your nose is filed with aroma of the cheese gods. You stand in line and press your face up against the glass drooling and contemplating on what slice of pizza you should get. When you finally order and go to pay they have Carmel Apple lollipops I instantly turn 10, grab a few with my slice of pizza, and walk home in pure bliss. Bring Cash!!

Situated in the heart of Midtown, lies Pieces. It's the perfect stop for anyone from hipsters to bourgeoisie. Each slice of pizza is massive and can be considered a full meal. I get two slices because I'm a bit of a piggy. The pesteroni with mushroom and the vegan are my favorite flavors. They also have a massive supply of condiments. Warning: It's cash only. Also, the tip jar is filled with water so bums don't steal their tips.

OMFG. I have had Pieces recommended to me by everyone I know pretty much since I moved here in late 2012. I can't explain why my first visit didn't happen until last night. Never having cash when the pizza mood strikes? Spontaneous bouts of healthy eating? Forgetting that it exists? Trust me, I WILL NEVER FORGET AGAIN. This is some straight up serious legit amazing pizza. I got a regular cheese, just going simple, not expecting a lot. HOW was this so delicious??? Fancy cheeses, super hot and fresh, and *SURPRISE*! THERE IS A DELICIOUS CHEESY GARLIC CREAMY STUFFED CRUST!! Extra fun fact- staff is awesome. Friendly, funny, regular people, who I'm sure deal with semi-drunk assholes like us on the regular and laugh it off without batting an eye. Our new (read: unwilling) best friend Nick talked to us extensively about lasers. Well played, sirs. I was so enamored that as of this morning I still couldn't stop thinking about the pizza, and am consequently eating a poor substitute of pizza-flavored combos for breakfast. I never said I was classy.

So I called last night at 11pm and first they just picked up the phone and hung up, so I called back. Then some girl answered "suicide hotline". I couldn't believe she said that! So I just continued the conversation and asked if they delivered. She was surprised I didn't just hang up. Then I asked for a large pizza, she said it would be $49! Because they "charge by the slice". This place sounds like it's good during normal business hours from the other reviews I've read but that night crew is rude and horrible and because of them I'll never eat here.

Im shocked I've never heard of this place until the other night. I'm so glad I tried it out because it's really a cool concept. You order your pizza the way you want it. (They have menu options hung on the wall). You can order a slice or more. The pizza is already baked but it's left with room for them to add and re-bake it so it's fast and efficient. I tried the pesto feta sundry or something but for some reason they sold my slice. Nick was so kind and gave me options to remake my new slice of pizza. He offered 3 different types of pizza to choose from and I made my selections. Told him exactly what I wanted to have on my pizza and he made it happen! Nick, Tyson, Morgan and (crud I forgot the other guy's name .. I think Dustin..) were all so chill and funny. They have personalities and were able to be sarcastic and provided great customer service and interaction. I liked the fact they engaged with customers because it makes it a more personable experience. I would definitely come back. It was super late/early in the morning but they still had energy! My pizza was freakin awesome! The pizza was very crunchy on the bottom of the pizza and soft and delicious with my toppings and sauce. The crust was freakin awesome. It was stuffed with more doe and was soft on the inside with some cheese but yet crunchy on the outside. Yeah, pretty much a food-gasm in your mouth. They have a few metal/steel table and chairs outside. When you first walk in there are tables to your right for seating. It's all small tables so you can't really sit with a big group you guys would have to break up in small tables/seating. They have individual stools with a table/shelf you can sit that is against the wall. The decor they have painted on the wall it goes with their theme (it was a vineyard). You get in line and you order your pizza then you pay. After you get your pizza they have this table with all the condiments you may want to put on top of your pizza like chili pepper flakes, garlic powder, or hot sauce. Anyways, overall experience was fun and entertaining. We were in and out. And the pizza was .com

That I had heartburn all night is forgivable given that this was pizza. But the pesto left a lot to be desired, and I'm not a picky person. I do appreciate multiple vegan options and pricing.

  • Kahakauwila S.

I gave it four stars because they are a cash only establishment, but othere then that the slice of pizza is big and tasty! I had the pesto, cheese, and sun dried slice. Super good! Would go back!

  • Kayla M.

The pizza here is awesome! 95% of the time I've been here, it's been after a late night of dancing and drinking. The line can get quite long around 2 am since food options are limited at that time, but it's worth the wait! The pizza is nice and greasy, and the dough is delicious and chewy. I'm deducting a star since it's cash-only, and a lot of the time I've already spent all my cash at Badlands and have to beg my friends to help me get my next Pieces fix.

  • Jamie L.

This is my new favourite pizza spot. Here's why: open late for all the night crawlers, friendly and energetic staff and an ample variety of pizza, drinks - beer (draft & bottled) and dessert. Yes, dessert. Don't even get me started about the pizza! I had the sun dried tomato with pesto. It's re-heated to perfection with your slice being the right amount of crisp. It's not too thin or thick. Depending on your slice, there's extra cheese or pesto baked right into it too. The music is on point too, which is basically all I've ever wanted in life. Eating music while listening to pizza. :]

  • Megan K.

I have never had such a big piece of pizza. The prices are great, the pesto is amazing, the new kids they have working are not the best. They would rather mess around more then take orders and cook.

Since I can remember coming here I have always liked the pizza. It has been a little over done before, but on a very rare occasion. Generally it's always good for after you have had a couple beers and have been walking around downtown bar hoping. Best thing about this place is they stay open really late at night . The down side, which could be major for some people is they ONLY TAKE CASH. So hit the atm across the street first. Go there.

  • Martin C.

I love pizza and this is some very good pizza. However, my only complain is that the crust is way too thick, but other than that it is a very good pizza. I had a midnight craving and was in the mood for some pizza. Thought about getting a delivery then I yelped and found this place is about a 5 minute drive from where I was staying. Kudos for being open late and the staff was very nice. Wild definitely come back, and they have beer so that is a huge plus. Can't go wrong with great pizza and great beer

Best pizza in town!! Love this place. One of the gals here is so nice. We ordered three pestoronis and one meat combo. They didn't have any pestoronis so they just charged us for three cheese pizzas. Awesome customer service. There's cheese in the crust!! I love the crispy yet fluffy and chewy dough. So good. Bring yo mama!

Amazing. My favorite place to get pizza in Sacramento, hands down. It looks like a hole in the wall and almost like it shouldn't be a business, but you go up to the counter and are greeted with a variety of pizza from vegan veggie to pesto pepperoni. Not only that, they will add freshly chopped garlic on top before they pop it in the oven for you. They're cash only and I always make sure to have cash to end my night with them. My favorite pizza is pesto sauce with feta cheese and sun dried tomatoes on top. YUM

I was being stupid one day and deleted all my pictures for Pieces before I got to post them. It made me sad. I'm sure I will end up coming back and taking more since they are located close to the bars I like to frequent, and open late. This visit I came for lunch with the Husband. He had a slice of the Hawaiian Pizza with a Soda and I had other a slice of the Olive and Mushroom Pizza with a Cup of Water (free). There were plenty of Vegetarian and Carnivore friendly options. The total was about $15 which isn't too bad for two adults for lunch. Employees were friendly, and most of all the kitchen looked clean. They had all the cooked pizzas out on display, so when you picked a slice, they throw it back in the oven to heat it up a bit before serving it to you. We both thought the pizza was great. Both our slices were HUGE and had a lot of toppings. The crust of the pizza was flaky and there was a ton of cheese. I wasn't even able to finish my slice. Inside the decor could use some work. Mismatched cafeteria style chairs and tables with Goodwill finds decorating the walls. Yikes. Definitely best for a quick lunch or drunken late night snack. Don't expect to hangout here but for what it is, it's great! *Insert menu picture here* *Insert picture of kitchen here* *Insert olive and mushroom pizza picture here" *Insert Hawaiian pizza picture here*

Recommend coming here on a weekend at night. That's when things are in full swing and the pizza is the freshest. Came here another time on a weekday in the afternoon and the pizza wasn't quite the same so come at night. This place sells pizza by the slice and the slices are nice and big as to be expected. Lines can get big on weekends very late at night so don't wait too long. Oh and cash only. Also it's always fun to see the lovely residents of sac inebriated eating pizza late at night, kinda gives you that warm cozy feeling inside.

Stars for serving hoards of drunk patrons at 2:00 am. Being open late is worth a lot. Anyone that tolerates, with a smile, what walks into a business at this hour deserves a hug and a big tip. Mediocre pizza, Not so mediocre prices. $5-7 per slice seems fairly high, even in a semi-inebriated state. Bonus star for handing out caramel apple pops to the long line of hungry, boozy patrons.

This pizza is superfragilisticexpialidociously amazingness! I had the gluten free pizza with pesto, bacon, spinach, feta cheese and garlic! The pizza crust had awesome constancy and texture for being gluten free! The flavor was awesome and the price not too shabby! My mom got a slice of a vegetable pizza and at first was upset it cost $7 but then ate the whole thing even the crust which she never does and said it was worth it! The staff was really friendly, especially the girl with the purplish hair!!

To be honest, im not really sure what all the gleaming review are about. Id say Pieces is mediocre at best. I had the pestoroni which was very light on the pesto. Almost tasted like a regular pepperoni pizza. Id say Pieces is a good place to go if youre in a rush, or just in the mood for some lightly sauced, crunchy pizza. For me, it was kinda expensive for what I received. But hey, whatever floats your boat is cool. Pros: Staff was really kind and seemed like they actually care about their customers. Things to Improve: Clean up the place a little bit and wipe off the tables. That little bit would go a long way for me.

Honestly 100% amazing! If u have cash on u or can get it and have a craving for pizza...it's likely that Pieces is open and guaranteed they'll meet ur needs with 100% satisfaction. Oh...don't forget- tipping is not a city in China

Well, it's pretty hard to say anything negative about a pizza joint because it's almost impossible to make pizza that isn't heaven in your mouth. However, I'm not going to give a place 4-5 stars just for having pizza and being one of the few late night grub options in midtown. Pieces is cash only (boooo) and expensive, too! Last time I was here it was $20 for just 3 pieces, which seems pretty steep to me. Also, the bright florescent lighting is harsh and unforgiving when you've just stumbled out of a neighboring bar after putting back one too many beers. The restaurant space itself is unremarkable. And they don't serve alcohol. Pizza without beer?!?! Things that I do appreciate about Pieces: the pizza is pretty darn good, plenty of condiments, outdoor seating and friendly people behind the counter.

Came here for the vegan pizza...and they had a couple options! They had two different vegan pizzas with long names, something-something with something chipotle sauce--with potato something stuffed crust, yes! This place is a hole in the wall kind of place if you ask me, I would've never known about it if it weren't for Yelp because it sort of looks like a creepy "video store" from the outside! But on the inside there's good pizza, really good pizza...definitely at the top of my list for best vegan pizza I've had...and I've had a lot! They have beer here, too. And bad art on the walls.

Great pizza, great vibe and service. Ordered their vegan pizza. Loved how they were able to bake on the spot and also how the crust was stuffed with mushrooms/potatoes. Good selection of hot sauces as well. Ambience is nice and laidback. Slices are big, but are priced proportionately. :-)

There are a plethora of amazing pizza spots in midtown, and in Sacramento in general-- this place, in comparison is mediocre. $7 for one slice of pizza, I was already wary, it better be great-- down the street from where I live, there is a new spot that opened up called Urbano- near Peets Coffee, Low Brau etc, where a giant slice of pizza is about $3-5 bucks-- I'd get two for ten, and leave happy. However, the pizza did taste pretty good, toppings weren't sparse-- and that is important to me, I love pizza, and I want each bite to contain toppings. I ordered a slice with all different kinds of veggies, broccoli, squash, etc which I thought was delicious. And the boyfriend ordered pesto pepperoni-- which I actually thought was a bit tastier. Crisp foundation, hot cheese, etc. The crust is stuffed with cheese as well, but the cheese could've used a bit more seasoning, it lacked flavor-- in general it tasted a bit like standard, cheaper mozzarella. The ambiance, a bit outdated-- looked like maybe they haven't spent money on decor or updates in a few decades-- the tables were some collection of furniture from a thrift store-- which i guess works...but for $7/slice you'd think they'd be making enough money to modernize a bit. Overall, we decided we'd likely not return. Not because the experience was horrible-- but because we are huge fans of pizza, HUGE, and Sacramento has so much to offer that we'd thought we would just stick with our favorites-- paesanos, hot italian, urbano, trick pony, masullo pizza, even pizza rock, or pieology-- but if you're on the go, and you need 1 piece of pizza ready to go in just a few minutes, and you have the $7 to spend, the pizza does taste good.

Look, I know that you thought this place was a good pizza joint because you're drunk and it's 1:30AM. You were wrong and it's time to leave. Sure, you can drink more here, but when you wake up vomiting because you got food poisoning, you'll remember why I told you to leave. This place is dirty, its pizza is subpar and tasteless and my girlfriend got food poisoning the first time she ate here, and then when we tried it again, just to be fair, it sat like a brick in my stomach. This place is awful. Avoid it even if you are drunk. There are better late-night joints in Sacramento, and better pizza EVERYWHERE.

This has been my favorite pizza place, since living in midtown in 2001. I no longer live in Sac and I visited yesterday, feeling like I went back in time. Everything is the same, except the nasty couches were long gone. Even the people working there, seemed to fit right in as though they never aged. My favorite is the pesto cheese with green Tabasco. The prices have gone up a couple bucks a slice over the last 10 years (which seems a bit excessive for a SLICE of pizza!), and this is the reason for 4 starts and not 5. If my slice of pesto cheese pizza was $5 I could have felt a bit more like this would be a once a week treat, but at $5.75, I think of it as a "special treat" kind of place. Since they only take "cash", handing over a $5 and not have to BREAK a $10 is much easier for the consumer, and buying TWO slices would be easier. Having to break a $20 for TWO slices, NO WAY! Now if I wanted just cheese, that could have been done for $10, but the pesto cheese is a BASIC slice at this place. $10 should get you 2 slices.

I thought the pizza was pretty good. I got the veggie combo with pesto sauce. It was a big slice with lots of chopped up veggies on it. I liked the Crisp crust, the best part was near the edge. It's like they put sauce all the way to the edge and then roll it up. but the toppings tasted a little bland. The decor could use a little freshening up. The staff is really nice. What got to me were the dang flies and the price is a little steep. My slice was $7.

This place is a wonderful hole in the wall, I stopped here a few times a few years back while I was working in downtown sac, and I was still super happy to see it was still here. It's a little pricey $23 for a two beers and two slices, and it's cash only. But it is Amazing pizza. The staff weren't the biggest help wen asked where a SportsBar was so I could watch the World Series, they both replied with "we aren't those kinds of people." So kudos for the pizza, boo for the staff not being personable and not at least saying they didn't have any local suggestions. We don't like those kind of people!

I wish they had a MENU to take home so I would REMEMBER to come here more often!!! I LOVE their Plain Cheese PESTO and their Plain Cheese SLICES. I get one of each and take them home and eat half of each one ... Saving the rest for later! The Cheese in the Crust is a Great Surprise!!! The staff is friendly and the slices are reheated in their huge Pizza Oven until the toppings are melted and the crust is lightly toasted on the bottom. I just made myself hungry again....great Midtown Location!!!

Went there with my girlfriend last night, and it was excellent! They offer to put fresh garlic on top, and have three different kinds of ranch. We tried the all meat and the vegetarian with pesto sauce, with chipotle ranch. The all meat was great, it was my second favorite pizza spot, until I tried hers. I'm not usually a vegetarian guy but somehow that was the best slice of pizza I've ever had! It just brought the word delicious to a whole new level for me. What can I say: pieces by the slice has practically turned me into a vegetarian... and I'm perfectly OK with that lol. They also have a great selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. I give them 5 out of 5 this place is kicking butt and taking names!

Vegan pizza was delish, boyfriend loved his Pesto-roni and the customer service was above and beyond amazing!!! I love how I could customize the Vegan pizza (how much garlic, sauce, etc). The owner also seems very passionate about her business and keeping her produce local! Which is always a plus for me. Unfortunately the were out of their Vegan pesto but I will be back to try that too!!

I've been going to Slices for years. Freaking love their pizza crust!! Their prices have been going up, so I go less frequently, but will always remain loyal to them. Sometimes I question the cleanliness, lack of hair nets and what not, but maybe its the hair in the pizza that makes it so good.

"my review is subjective" I have nothing but great things to say about this place, it has been a couple years since I have been in town, but I have a lot of great memories with family and friends that revolved around eating pizza here. The pizza is so yummy! I am going to come back to you soon PIECES!

  • Rose R.

Still a fan but the pizza has been a little less consistent on its deliciousness and the prices keep going up and up I think a slice of pesto is $6 and if you want the sundried tomatoes and feta cheese I think its closer to $7 :-/

This place is the BOMB. Not only is their food amazing, their customer service is phenomenal. Just the coolest guys and girls working there!! Great energy, funny characters and all. Their Pesto Sticks are out of this world. It's a must have Thanks for hooking it up Dustin. You're the best. ;) I'll never forget the master chef of salads and pesto stucks!

Ive been coming here for years and never thought to write a review until now. This place is hands down the best pizza joint in town! It isn't fancy, rather quite modest. I love the music they play and the fact that they support the local arts by posting all the upcoming events on their bulletin and allow stacks of flyers. NOW ABOUT THE FOOD! Pesto pizza with garlic is not only my favorite, but a favorite of many, so they always have it in stock. However, whatever your taste and appetite is that day-whole pie or slice- whatever you decide order will be superb! You may think that 5.00 for a slice is a little steep, but their slice isn't skimpy and the quality is top notch. They have a a pretty good selection of beers, basics on tap, and the rest in bottle. IMPORTANT NOTE* bring $$ because they accept nothing other than cold, hard cash! They have it down to a science there, so if you see 5-7 people in front of you, don't fret, they are quick at getting your pie out hot, steamy, and delicious (unless the people in front of you are indecisive, I which case you just ask them, "are you ready to order?" Many are good at stepping back to let you through as they make, what can sometimes be, a hard decision- I know, cuz I've been there!) Enjoy! Say "aloha" if you see me!

Okay so I went to this place based on the yelp reviews. My friend and I were on our way to Amtrak and had to find something quick and easy. I have to say I just didn't get it... I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Ended up getting a pizza with pesto and garlic on it. Maybe the mistake was getting a pizza without meat as that tends to add a lot of flavor. The pesto was good, perhaps just not nearly enough of it to stand up to all that cheese in the thick crust. Pros- the staff was very nice and very helpful in making suggestions. Quick service and fresh ingredients. Cons- a bit pricey, not a great value especially after being disappointed with my order. If you like cheese and a thicker crust you'll like this pizza - as for me I would ask for light cheese next time- it was just was way way too thick. Decor: Simple, very spartan. The future? The next time I'm racing to a train and need something quick on-the-fly I Would be willing to give this place another try now that I have lowered my expectations and would maybe order a slice that has more toppings on it. (absolutely nowhere near as good as Arizmendi in Oakland and this place is three times the price! - no bueno)

4-stars for anything/everything served with pesto Minus 1 star for the long lines, late-night potheads, and drunkies on a Friday/Saturday night. Other than that....you the real mvp...

This is classic midtown Sacramento culture before midtown got expensive. The crust is thick. The meat is visible. And they have vegetarian alternatives. $20 can feed 2 adults with a slice & draft brew each no problem. This place ain't fancy. Shorts, tee shirts & flip flops fit right in here. Kind of a cool spot to catch up on local music magazines and people watch.

Pesto-roni, now that's a game changer! Who cares if you come intoxicated or sober, pizza is ALWAYS good (in my little 'ol book)! I've driven by this place tons of times, but never once thought to stop here. After tons of weekday drinking and bike riding, we sought something to soak up our pre-determined hangover for work the next day. Alas, Pieces was open after the last Rivercats home game. As per the usu, random characters were sitting outside, not the patron type. Once you got past the crazy, you were golden. I was NOT prepared for the goodness that is the rolled-up-dough-in-the-crust, that is Pieces! What in the world?!? I have been missing out, this is stuff was pretty tasty. Not to mention the decent offerings by the slice, I've never seen Pesto-roni! Pesto & pepperoni, that's like a perfect pizza marriage! Another one of those pesky cash-only grid places. The booze forgave you, but I'm still irritated at that. The staff was awesome, the two young, hipster boys were beyond sweet and very helpful. Unfamiliar with the ordering process, we were slightly out of our element. We ordered with the guy behind the tall glass who was dealing with the slices, then we walked to pay the other guy manning the register - I guess that's how it works! My Bestest was delighted that he could still order a beer, even though it was getting late. Nestling into our seats, we sat down and devoured our gooey, cheesy, almost-too-much-dough slices. We were in carb heaven! Absolutely nothing is fancy about this place, but then again, it shouldn't be. It's meant for a quite bite and drank, and then you're out! Sobering up Gridies one slice at a time...

Definitely a place to get your pizza after a few drinks! The Pesto with Fresh Garlic is a must!

I have been here a few times and every time I just absolutely love their pizza, especially the CRUST!!! It's amazing!!! The staff is awesome!! My favorite is the pesto cheese!! The last time I was here I asked if they would put chicken on the pesto cheese because I didn't want the pesto cheese with chicken and bacon and the guy was super chill about it and threw on some chicken for me at no extra cost!

Justin who works here is literally the sweetest! My vegan friend had called ahead to request a vegan pizza, but there was a mix up and it didn't make it into the oven! Justin made her a special potato mash thing and didn't charge her anything! Our non-vegan pizza was delicious and deceptively filling. One piece is enough! Really good happy hour, too.

always fun to stop in and see the downtown "folk" and have a slice, with a good beer selection

My girlfriend and i went here after hearing they have "good vegan pesto Pizza".We went at about 1 am on a Saturday and gotta say,It was pretty good Pizza. For the price you get a decent slice and they have a nice selection of pizza. If you are out late and want a good slice and drink,Then this is one of the better spots in Midtown to hit.Outside seating is nice.Staff is friendly and it has a mellow vibe. They don't rush you to eat and go and that is always a good thing.

  • Lance P.

The pizza was awesome, but we had to wait over an hour to get it. That wouldn't be a probably except we have small kids. We'll probably be back regardless, because the staff is always so friendly and the pizza is pretty good. Unless we hit a bad time you don't want to go there until you can wait.

I've been eating at this place since my younger stoner days and though I haven't smoked pot in years, this place is still phenomenal (even when I don't have the munchies). I've lived in NYC and enjoyed many a slice in the big apple, but Pieces is even better. Their pesto pizza makes my eye's roll back with gluttonous joy. I'm only subtracting one star because their cash only policy stinks!

  • Katie A.

I've been coming to Pieces for years. Is it amazing when drunk? Absolutely. Is it amazing when sober? Still -- absolutely. This is a great late night spot to stumble to; add a bunch of YOUR favorite toppings to a slice; and chomp down on a slice that is sturdy enough not to fall apart in your hand, has AMAZING crust, and can be covered in garlic and cheese to seal all of your toppings in. This was also the first place where I experimented with hot sauce on pizza and I've never looked back. Crowds can form, and there's a reason for that: the food is delicious and hits the spot. Not only that, but I've started coming back for the staff. Found myself shy and intimidated by them at first: DON'T BE! Get to know them, they're awesome people and they'll recognize you if you come often. This is my favorite place in Midtown -- hands down.

Pestoroni! AHHHHH!!! Fabulous pizza and a great spot to eye cute hipsters. Bring cash, no cards accepted. But there's a Chase across the street :-)

Bomb-diggity pizza. It just doesn't get much better. A huge, thin crust of deliciousness. LOVE their variety of hot sauces too. I just wish they had more seating. And that some of the clientele wasn't so shady.

Omg it's great!! Pizza lovers come here! Pesto&cheese lovers cometh here! My picture is a 1/3 eaten slice. A lil expensive but satisfies the crave:)

This is not your "perfect" "pristine" restaurant. It has some grit and that is part of the charm. It's a great pizza place and their vegan pizza is my favorite. It's full of flavor. My bf loves their pesto also. The people that work their have the same kind of gritty charm. They've always been more than kind and sometimes discount your slice if it is "less than" what they normally offer;-) I'm hooked!

  • Mark S.

For flavor...best pizza in town. Open late too. It's a dive place, you're not there for the ambiance that's for sure. You'd be stupid not to eat here! Yeah, I just said that.

I try to hit up Pieces once every few weeks as a treat to myself for being absolutely fabulous slightly narcissistic because I actually pass this place with some self restraint to not go here more often... Pros: Fast, fairly clean with upbeat staff Cons: No NYC prices so don't expect to walk out of here with a .75 cent slice of pie. Will go back....

Yesterday was my first time at this place. I've been searching for a pizza place like Blondies in SF that sell pizza by the slices for a quick bite when in need. I was determined to find this place after reading the great reviews and I wasn't disappointed by any means. I'm still thinking about the pizza! *The sun-dried tomato/feta, pesto AND the veggie pesto slices were amazing! Veggies are not over-cooked. Still hold its freshness and crunch. No need to pat oils off this pizza as it isn't greasy. The pesto and cheese rolled into the crust was a NICE touch. You will not want to toss your crust aside as empty calories. The bottled, root beer was probably the best I had. But above all, its the customer service that will take you back to this place. They're FRIENDLY, helpful, and kind people. So be sure to tip them when you're treated this well! :)

I just had this pizza for the first time today, and I have to say that it has to be the best pizza in town. Hands down, the best. Plus they have Mexican Coke and Pepsi. There's some chocolate cake there that looks amazing! Go there! There open til 2:30am on Friday's and Saturday's.

Stopped here with friends before we decided to go bar hopping in Sacramento, We came in and there was a couple of slices here and there and the guy working there (Dustin) Told us that there was a rush and that they are baking some new ones in the oven and asked us if we wanted those. We did and we had the Chicken and Spinnich one and it was sooooo bomb diggady! Its kind of hard to eat because the toppings are overflowing and the slices are so huge. Dustin the guy working there was overly nice! Just his customer service was amazing and how he introduced himself and everything was pretty cool.

Stopped by after leaving Press Club, we were completely excited... Order 2 pesto sticks, a vegan pizza, & a slice of pepperoni.. Everything took a total of roughly 25-30 minutes to get.. Not ideal at 1:30am. Got attitude from the female behind the pizza counter when we asked for a vegan pizza because apparently they "hadn't had any requests for it tonight & didn't want to waste the vegetables." Ended up just ordering a whole one to get them to make it anyways..told it'd be a 15 minute wait.. Ha.. Pesto stick are delicious, that's why I gave them any stars at all. The deduction of 3 stars comes from the pepperoni pizza WITH NO FCKING SAUCE on it... Umm yeah, I'd love the have pizza dough with just pepperoni & cheese...no.. Completely ridiculous... Not to say I won't come back but I'm just 90% disappointed with this visit, so I have to leave a review for it.... TIP: Check your fcking pizza before you leave, nothing is worse than getting home at 2 in the morning with a buzz hoping to have an amazing slice of pizza to find a weird disrespectful slice of "pizza"

Not bad, semi-crispy crust, fairly large slices, but this is definitely not a $5 piece of pizza.

  • MyShawn C.

Man oh man was I in for a surprise. The pizza was so good that I ate 2 not 1 but 2 giant pieces and had a piece of carrot cake. The pepperoni with feta on it was out of this world and I so love a good cheese pizza but pesto cheese, I was in heaven. You don't know what you are missing until to try it. And it's open on the late night on weekends, the place was packed. I can't wait to hit it up again after clubbing this Friday night.

Dropped in late afternoon on a weekday when it was dead to grab a couple slices to go. Got the pesto-roni and veggie pesto, but they hooked me up and only charged me for one slice! :] Veggie pesto was definitely worth getting again.

  • Barbara M.

The Pesto sticks are bomb, and the price is right for a slice of pizza and a soda or beer. The only thing that could give this another star for me is the uh... decor... the mismatched outdoor furniture does not, a nice place, scream to me. Other than that, they are always friendly and accommodating. Great pizza too, obviously.

This place is beyond amazing! Great laid back atmosphere and cool people who run it! I had the meat pizza, which was even better than most. And if you like fresh chopped garlic, you're in luck! I would recommend this place to anyone!

It was 11 pm on a Saturday night and I was starving for pizza! We found this place on yelp, and decided to check it out. A Little hole in the wall place, nothing fancy, few mismatched tables and chairs. The staff seemed super laid back and friendly enough. They have all their pizzas pre-made, and then they slice you a HUGE Pieces and heat it up in their oven. I tried the veggie pesto, it was pretty good, heated thru with a nice crunchy bottom crust, pesto sauce was good, but i could have been happier with more sauce. They outside crust was thick and rolled with some of the cheese in it. IT was good, kind of like having a pizza and cheese bread stick in one. I also got to try a bite of my friends meat combo, it was just ordinary, nothing special. I thought it was awesome that they had a little table set up with many different sauces to put on your pizza! I put hot Buffalo sauce on mine, so good. I thought that the prices were a bit high for a slice of pizza, but then again it was a huge slice, so its like two regular slices. I like the fact they are open late night. I will probably be back, even though my waistline will hate me for it. :)

Finally got to try this place out after a night of drinking and dancing....sooo happy that I did. The pizza is yummy and the people are warm and FUNNY. The pizza also isn't greasy which is a turn off for me because it makes me feel all blah afterwards. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Pieces is a perfect post-club stop if you're craving pizza. It's within stumbling distance of Lavendar Heights and various nearby bars, it's cheap and it is delicious. If you're a fan of garlic, ask for fresh garlic on your slice... soooo good! I've only been here late-night on weekends but based on my visits, the staff is friendly, service is quick and the crowd is pretty mellow. And, totally random, there's usually an interesting assortment of club and event flyers to be found. Gotta get my flyer fix somewhere now that The Beat is gone. ;D

I came here with a date a few weeks back in search of some amazing vegan pizza. SERVICE: Standard. Forgettable. They adequately served us pizza and opened a couple of beers. Nothing to write home about. [3/5 STARS] FOOD: It had been a while since I'd had vegan pizza and I'd never been to Pieces before so I was hopeful. I was a little weirded out at first when I realized that they used a veg chili as the sauce on their pizza until I put it in my mouth and OMG HAD TO PUT IT ALL IN MAH MOUTH (yes, that's what she said). [4/5 STARS] DRINKS: We had Stellas in bottles. [N/A] AMBIANCE: The night I was there it was dark and incredibly stormy outside so I think it make the bright lights seem even brighter. It's a super casual café style place. There was a (presumably) homeless man in a wheelchair asking customers to help him get money out of the ATM across the street. Apparently he'd been going back and forth with one of the employees, having been asked to leave and refusing to do so. It was and loud/awkward confrontation that completely sidetracked all conversation. I can't say for sure if this is a regular problem but it was super unappealing. [2/5 STARS] MISC: [N/A] THE TAKEAWAY: I would definitely come back here to nom pizza solo or with friends but I wouldn't suggest bringing a date here unless you're ordering to-go. Pieces Pizza by the Slice gets 2/5 STARS and is not recommended by Early Flirties as a potential dating hot spot. Love, Marie @earlyflirties.com

Had lunch here today. They were late to open their doors but like always their pizza is the best I have ever had. It's a big slice every time and they always have the freshest ingredients. The staff is great and congrats on being open 21 years!!

  • Jacob S.

Pepperoni pizza fans, lookout... not a good choice, here. Although it's expected to only have a few ingredients, this pepperoni was plain and didn't have much flavor. Nothing special, seriously. The pestoroni (pesto pepperoni), however, may be worth your visit. Don't be surprised if you see a few hippies hanging outside, there. Apparently, it's "the spot".

I keep saying I don't like Pizza Pie and then I keep reviewing Pizza Pie Places.... Maybe I do it because I think the term "Pizza Pie" is funny? Anyroad, here's the dealio on Pieces Pizza Pies by the Slices: It's punk rock, open-late, served New Yorky and is damn good when it needs to be. Walking in, past the scattered tables and out-of-place Naples-esque decor, you make your way to the counter, where you order up your slice - I suppose you could get a whole pie, but this place seems kind of slice-oriented. The slices are topped with various accouterments, pesto among them, and each time I've been, it's been big and greasy and amazing. A taste of New York in the City of Trees. You order your slice from some super-friendly punk-rockers and they toss it in the pizza oven to warm it up and then toss it back at you a short time later. It's a little pricey and cash-only, but in the end, worth it. There's a crowd that loiters around that's part punk, part hobo and part burnout and that adds to the charm. This isn't a destination place when looking for a night of Italian dining - it's a place to grab a slice late at night when looking to sober up. They stay open late, and that's rare in this town, and is something to celebrate. Get something with pesto and tip the guys working there - they deserve it.

    (4)
  • Sam J.

The crust. Oh lord yes the crust. I had to come back sober just to make sure my alcohol induced taste decisions were in fact correct... and ladies and gentleman, my, oh my, were they CORRECT.

I've been to this place plenty of times and also lived on the grid for a few years. in my opinion the best pizza spot in sac. huge slices, big crust with some cheese inside. only draw back for some people might be they only accept cash. anyways if you're DT check it out.

Some of the finest drunk eating available late night in downtown/midtown. Its pizza by the slice, so its reheated from whatever pies they have on hand, but its delicious. They turn enough pizza over that its never actually that old, and the twice cooked pizza is supremely crisp. SO GOOD. A missing star because it does get really crowded late at night and they never seem to have pesto sticks available, which is a constant tease. You are also limited to what they have at the time, but working within those restrictions, I have never had a bad slice. If you do somehow happen to go in late and its not too busy, have them throw on some extra goodies on for you before they pop it in the oven. I had them add bacon to a veggie pesto once and it was incredible! Bottom line: Go out and get a drink tonight, just for the sole purpose of ending up here to finish your night off right.

I usually go here after a night of drinking. Hands down my favorite pizza place in Sac. Great service, great pizza, and there's cheese in the crust. Also right down the street from the Townhouse. Oh yeah, there's a wall full of flyers for all the local events going on too.

I walked here for lunch and loved the quiet hidden location. Staff is super friendly and the pizza was good! I only spent $3.75 for a cheese pizza and it filled me up. I did like the crispy thin bottom crust and thick stuffed outer crust. I will definitely be back for more. Cash only business. And they have pepsi in the bottle!!! Major points for that.

amazing deliciousness at a fabulous price! i love downtown and love lil spots just like this. it's what downtown eating is all about! The service was great, the people are fun, and i have had nothing but the best pesto pizza here!

  • Jaimie S.

Pizza doesn't get much better than this! Great crust, real whole milk mozzarella cheese, organic veggies on top, and PESTO pies all the time. Yeah, it's $5 a slice, but this is not your ordinary slice of pizza. It's a meal in itself. If they had organic meats and cheese I could eat here all the time. Then again, that would probably drive the price up to $8 a slice and I wouldn't be able to afford it.

OOEY. GOOEY. HUEY. AND DEWY. Nah just kidding. It is very ooey n gooey, & full of comforting oil n all the things you can ask for in the most fattening thing on the planet next to lard itself. i LOVE that it oozes with oil when you bite into it. I try n stay away from pizza for the most part, but when I wanna splurge & if I was in the area I'd go here. When I was pregnant we went here all the time. I remember we'd but whole entire pizzas. And they were HUGE, have u ever SEEN these slices? We'd even buy an entire pizza to go. The fresh garlic is super yum.. dont be scared of the having some hot breath post pizza, its so worth it! Oil is love! The dripping oil when u lift the pizza..that makes it taste so much better! If it freaks u out blot it & eat healthy tomorrow! I usually get the mushroom with fresh garlic .

not much i can add that everyone else already said haha. the staff is indeed friendly, the pizza is DELICIOUS, the place is super chill, you can get beer (pizza and beer, now that's the key to a good and happy life!), you can even ring your vegan friends because they have great tasting options for them too =) my favorite pizza that i totally recommend to everyone is the veggie pesto. sometimes my friends and i go there and there's just the one slice left and we have to either share or usually i'll let my friend have it so i can get the pesto and olive pizza. can't really go wrong. they all taste great. oh, and they're open late. great place to go after you've been drinking because everyone there is so chill there is no judgement hehe.

LOVE PIECES!! they pretty much handle the drunks of downtown and midtown with grace. My favorite is the pesto with feta and sundried tomatoes, and I can hardly eat one piece. They have no ambiance but that is in no way why people go there. Its a great price for a great pizza and fast service.

AMAZING!!! their crust is great, plus: open friday and sat til 2 open thurs and sun til midnight open every other day until 11 Aside from the great hours, great crust, and cool people, its in a great location. I defiantely recommend it if you need to pick up a piece of pizza. also, NO PLASTIC. i see there was some confusion about that.

Pesto pizza with extra garlic and feta=yum Not spectacular pizza, but it's open nice and late, relatively cheap and easy mellow vibe. Unless you hate hippies, it's a fun little place.

I love this place. It throws me back to my college days where I was trying to be subversive for reasons unknown to me. This place has that underground music, indie film, mild drug-user's sort of vibe. I like how they have to kick the homeless out of there every now and then, and the tip jar has water in it so no one steals their tips. It's open late, and the pizza is some of the best around. They serve two styles of pizza by the slice with a variety of toppings - red sauce and pesto. The pesto pizza is killer. The red sauce is awefully good, but there's some sort of anise-induced flavoring that turns some people off. I like it, but a few people I know indicated that it tasted like toe jam or something that had died on the side of the road a few weeks ago. I think they're crazy, and that the red sauce is pretty darn good. There's a few downfalls - First, there's the red sauce issue as discussed above. Also, this place isn't for the health-concious. Don't even smell the pizza if you're counting calories. Secondly, every now and then, the place will fill up with the high-school kids, who tend to be loud and pointlessly crude and obnoxious. (Jebus... I sound like an old man writing that...) Lastly, the homeless people can get irksome with thier stenches and their begging if you're sitting outside, but that's a very rare occurance. I dunno. I've been there many, many times and will probably return sometime in the near future. Probably during a lazy Sunday afternoon while I do the crossword, or while in a drunken stupor at 2:00am. Either way, the pizza will surely hit the spot!

Amazing customer service, amazing pizza! I'm so glad I stopped here for a slice on my way home. The nice lady at the counter was so friendly and helpful and even gave me a glass of cider to sip on while I waited for my pizza to warm up in the oven, it's nice to know their is still great nice people out there, she was truly a pleasure to do business with. I will be comin back.

  • Clay W.

I really wish this place didn't have the best pizza by the slice in town because, as a business, they suck! I swear, every time I walk in there is a small group of foul smelling hippies that just stares me down. I really don't see the point in going to Pieces just to simply exist there, but maybe I am missing something. There have also been numerous occasions where I show up during normal business hours to find a paper plate on the door that says "be back in an hour", yet they don't state what time they left! Every time I have ordered a draft beer it was warm. One time it was even served in a plastic X-Men cup. And the last annoyance is of course that they are cash only. Like I said though, they really do have the best pizza by the slice (not best all around). However, I would still rather go to Uncle Vito's. At least I can enjoy myself there! Update: I actually dislike Uncle Vito's just as much.

Oh em gee. To be perfectly honest, my first and only experience at Pieces is a little blurry. However, the pizza was so good, it's hard to forget that much. I had the pesto veggie combo and it was delicious. The slice was so big, I woke up full the next morning. I'm pretty sure the crust was stuffed with pesto and cheese as well, as if there wasn't enough pesto and cheese on the slice itself. I believe an individual slice ranged from $4-$7 each, which is a little pricey. But it was sooo good. Not too many food places open late in Midtown, so this place is definitely a crowded pit stop between the bars and home on a weekend night. Expect to wait in a line to order. Definitely coming back!

    (4)
  • David P.

The crust on this pizza though! Never throw out the crust again since they roll their ends with cheese/stuffing on the inside and it is good. It opens late which is great but beware since reheating pizza that has been sitting out isn't as good as freshly made pieces. They can custom make slices for your high maintenance needs. The plain cheese pizza was better than the veggie combo per my taste buds. I will be adding Pieces Pizza to my late night/pizza craving rotation.

When you're one of the only places open on a Sunday night, you're bound to bring in a diverse crowd. Especially when serving cheap slices of huge, delicious pizza. Who doesn't like dinner and a show? It's a large space with a lot of slices. The staff is friendly, and lets you take your time choosing your pizza destiny. The slices are freaking mammoth, but it doesn't seem like it from your side of the glass. Add to the fact there is a delicious sea of cheese hidden in the crust, it's a sure way to food coma land. You really can't go wrong. They offer up a heap of garlic to party with your pizza. It's perfect for those long road trips where it's you, your driving partner, and a small space. The pizza was absolutely good for a reheated slice. I didn't have high hopes, but I definitely left happy. It's a beacon of cheesy hope in the late night wasteland that is Sac.

I tried a slice of pesto with mushrooms and olives, to die for! Loved it! I will be back!

This is the best pizza I have ever had. I've been eating at Pieces since 1999 and in all the different states I've lived in I still come back to Pieces. I order 2 cheese and a pesto stick to go. I've turned many friends onto Pieces and I'm a loyal patron. It's the sauce and the crust. Garlic, basil and crunchy. Just the best always

Beer and pizza on a breezy Opening Day.... (or finding a reaon to drink around noon) Finally got out of my hermit funk and met my bud Donald G for a quick slice of the veggie pesto...amazing~ I had a Newcastle (right out of the bottle 'cause I'm just like that) and he had a pretty tasting cider of some type on draft (heehee in a glass) We decided to sit outside and enjoy our pieces~which took us about an hour to eat- the slices are phat and loaded.... They say not to be a "napkin piggy," which I find hard not to do with the low quality napkins provided...Im not complaining...Im confessing;) Folks that work there are pretty chill, the bathroom is neato and filled with "magical" graffiti. I dig it. Huge slice, cold beer, sunny day and great convo- can beat that. Oh, BRING CASH~

You want the Best pizza in midtown? Come here....I was always a fan of uncle vitos (still am, the pizza is great)...but I think this place as them beat on flavor....customer service? Uummmm not so much...they are a little rough around the edges for sure, but it's worth any verbal lashes you get from the staff to taste this pesto pizza again! The décor leaves a lot to be desired, it reminded me of lawn furniture..which frankly all seems just fine, when you bite into the pizza. The slices are big, perfect amount of cheese, perfect crust, and the cheese filled top crust??? who thought of that? My suggestion is order a slice of the pesto to go....head home crack open a beer and propose a toast in front of your roommate, boyfriend, girlfriend, cats, dog, whomever....to good pizza!!!!!

Some thick, gooey, unhealthy pizzas like people love them, with oozles of garlic to top it all off. The only downside: the large population of hobos that seem to inhabit the area immediately surrounding the place.

They only accept cash? I get Midtown Sacramento has become hipster central, but what is this 1982? Screw off with that s*it. I'm not patronizing this joint just out of principle.

Holy cow, I had just finished watching Mystic Pizza on Saturday afternoon antenna tv... My date for the night came over and I put my foot down that even though we had somewhere to be in 45 minutes, I was demanding a slice of pizza before we went. He had been here before and I had never been. Pesto. Cheese. Crust. Pesto and cheese IN crust. Sprinkle lightly with sweet basil & parmesan. It's been less than 24 hours and I can't wait to try all the other varieties they offer. Also, it's not overpriced. It tastes like good, fresh quality ingredients. The staff is nice, and the place is so chill. Just like I said with my first two words of this review; Holy cow.

This place is no joke! I came in because of the reviews and the pizza is amazing and one slice is def enough. I bought a pepperoni slice for $4. The real price is actually $5 but the cashier gave me $1 because she thought the slice was too small. Honestly, I don't think I would have noticed. Anyhow the prices range by a few cents depending on what you have as the topping. I came a bit late so what I saw was what was available. She warmed my slice up in their oven it was perfect. It was slightly crispy and the marinara sauce was right on. Don't expect a healthy pizza nor think about the calories. Just enjoy the pizza for what it is. The place is dinky but who really cares. Great for late nights.

I have never been so pleased by a piece of pizza. Especially accidentally stumbling on this place trying to find Jalapeño's down the street. The first thing I noticed was the eccentric owners working there. They were so pleasant and excited for us to be there; we were the only ones in the shop. They let us know that they could just put any toppings on our pizza and they'd alter the price. It was a novel idea to me that they could just put different toppings on their existing slices, since I was used to regular places just serving whatever pizza they had already made. But Tony, the ovenmaster for today, put this smoky bacon on our pesto pizza and it was amazing. He even gave us the bacon on the house because it was our first time. Their condiment bar really is intense though; it ranges from savory and succulent to spicy and searing. From garlic and Parmesan, to Sriracha and Tabasco, they've got a large selection of condiments to put on your pizza. As soon as we got our pizza, my girlfriend couldn't wait till we got to the table. She took a bite and said this was the right choice. I wholeheartedly agreed as soon as we sat down and I took my first bite. This pizza is hearty and savory and delicious. It's got the pesto in the crust and the bacon was absolutely fantastic. It was oily but not enough to make me sick, it's not Uncle Vito's greasy, but it's also not dry either. Afterwards, the owner asked us how the pizza was and I shouted that it was amazing and she said, "Welcome to the family!" She came around and wanted to shake my hand but I gave her a big hug and she seemed touched and she met my girlfriend and I gave her a few more hugs. I met the other people working too and they were just as eccentric and caring. This place is wonderful and really quaint on regular days, but apparently really grimy and full on days when the club gets out; I'm leaning more towards coming during weekdays. Hahaha. This experience is really great and reflects the dynamic that, when you, as an owner, care about your product and your customer, your customer will be just as excited and caring about your product.

My favorite pizza in Sac! I've been going here to eat slices of delicious, delicious pesto pizza with sundried tomatoes and feta for years. It has never disappointed. The staff has always been equally amazing. Once, my car broke down in the parking lot across the street. They gave me a soda to pour on my battery corrosion at the suggestion of the Chase Bank security guard, and they cheered for me as I drove off victoriously when the soda did the trick. Ah yes, there is a special place in my heart for both the pizza and staff here. Go now! You won't be sorry.

I love pieces :) This has been a midtown staple for me ever since I moved here! The pizza honestly is what it is, 2am drunk food! I only like the pesto pizza (with sundried tomato, feta, and pineapple) and I will only eat it drunk. That being said, the staff is always kind friendly, and fun. I will love this place forever! Or until I join AA, whichever comes first ;)

If you want a giant piece of pizza along with fatty stuffed crust that will make your heart feel like its about to explode from the grease, this is your locale. Unlike other people, I didn't have bad service. When I called ahead, they made the pizza and had it ready to go right one time. But I do agree with other places, the store is not that clean. And like most hippy locales, they don't take credit cards.

    (3)
  • Justin F.

Pieces is an easy 4 stars for me. Why? Because it specializes in a type of dining experience and truly delivers. If you really want good pizza by the slice at a reasonable price, this is your place. I think the pizza is much better than Uncle Vittos, and at least as good as many other pizza places around town. All the pizza I've had there has stuffed crust, which I like. I'm not sure if all their pizza has stuffed crust. Note, I never give a restaurant 5 stars that doesn't accept credit cards. I still cant believe places can survive without accepting cards.

I will always have a place in my heart for Pieces. The slices are fat and the pizzas greasy, but even so it is difficult to resist Pieces. I'm not a picky eater, but I find it hard to find pizza joints that's worth coming back and but that is not the case with Pieces. I find myself wanting to come back whenever I can! The lady with the glasses that works there is so nice. Before baking the pizza, so offered to take the green onions off a slice of the Hawaiian. And the owner is also nice and funny- this place has been serving pizza for 18 years!

Hands down the best pizza joint in Sacramento. They do pizza by the slice, basically new york style but the quality of their pesto pizza in particular is just out of this world. They heat the slices in the pizza oven to order and they come out just fantastic. The place is a clean dive, very counterculture, retro, whatever, you can easily image it being a coffee bar or another kind of hangout. The staff look like the kind of people you'd expect to see in an artists commune but I've always gotten extremely friendly, helpful service so don't be put off by appearances, the food here is great and the staff is friendly and dedicated.

I LOVE PESTO. I think I had a mini heart attack on pesto overdose. I had to wash my face a few times to feel clean again. Get this, a pesto pizza, a pesto twister with a side of pesto. awesomeness. I doubt I can come here more than once a year as it feels like I took a bath in olive oil but I do love that pesto.

This is my favorite pizza in the sac area by far. Every different slice I've had here has been great. The pesto knots are awesome. They don't always have them but it's worth asking. Make sure you get your slice thrown back in the oven for a minute and if you like garlic and don't mind the dragon-breath it will cause they will throw some fresh garlic on for no extra charge. They always have a different local beer choice, sometimes they sound random but they have always been really tasty. Open late and friendly staff. Went in here really messed up one night and the guy who helped me handed me a cup of peanut butter M&M's while I waited for my pizza, I wanted to hug him. The slices are huge and I've never been disappointed. CASH ONLY.

If you've ever been drunk in midtown, you've probably ended up here. If you're new to getting drunk in midtown, you will probably end up here! What you need to know... This is a paper plates and plastic joint. I've never been here during the daylight, but this place ain't pretty! They have beer on tap! Most of your dinning companions will be inebriated! The employees wont put up with your crap! Keep your hands off the glass! ;) Get a side of ranch! ($0.25) Put a dollar in the water! (I think this also entitles you to a wish) Don't be a napkin whore! They have like 15 different bottles of hot sauce (self service, so you can choose your level of pain). If you need a big slice of greasy pizza, this is where you go! Oh, and take out includes a paper plate and a paper bag. Don't set this on your lap.

All of the other reviews summed up this restaurant in one word: YUM! Pieces Pizza is like Heaven in your MOUTH. Delicious crust, oodles of oozing cheese, fresh/tasty toppings, reasonable prices, friendly staff, convenient hours of operation, and decent music. The only bummer about this restaurant is that it's Cash Only! Aside from that, I'm hooked.

    (4)
  • Elizabeth P.

Yum! I love the pesto pizza, and it is usually on hand. They are accommodating when it comes to custom toppings. I love how friendly the staff is here, and I enjoy it every time I come in. They have the best condiment bar by far, choices galore for hot sauce to really make the pizza yours. I love the music they have piping through the stereo, it is versatile and eclectic as the staff. I believe this was the first place I ever ate in Sacramento before I moved here, and so that means I have been coming here for about 14 years. The only down side is it is cash only and the patio out front it not defined, so you have to drink your beers inside.

I went to Pieces yesterday around 8. They must have changed owners, because they painted over their murals and the food was TERRIBLE. They were all out of feta (well before their late night rush), the cheese on my Mushroom & Olive was not good, and the Veggie Pesto my boyfriend ordered was just bad. They should've left Pieces as it was, because this new place sucks.

I kind of feel like I've had a recent return to humanity. Going back to the places that I love and left when I relocated to the suburbs. I mean, it's like a 5 minute drive, what the heck? Ok, the biggest difference is that my kiddo is old enough for mommy and/or daddy to go out once in a while and have a well deserved drink, and she doesn't even try to kill the babysitter! (most of the time) Late-night pizza is fabulous. Late-night tipsy pizza is also fabulous. These guys are there for you when you need them, and the pizza is hot, delicious, fast, and affordable. Anyone who says there's nothing to do late night in Sac must hate pizza. And that is SO un-American.

Best pizza in town? Really? That's what makes this Yelp world tough...are the reviewers that rave this place is amazing...are they PAID? Is this the first place they have ever had pizza that didn't come frozen in a box? So...no. Not the best pizza, not even close. I actually stumbled in here after a couple beers at the Streets of London pub. A large group of us went in at around 9pm. This place was packed, and there was some show going on next door and there was definite spill over into their lounge. Was my pizza bad? No, but it wasn't something to write home about. Slice of pizza, a beer, and a tip and $10 was gone like that. I could have eaten two slices, but didn't dare wait in their incredibly long line. Would I go back? Only if a friend was adamant. There are way better places in downtown. Side note: Just read through several more reviews, it's clear that many people who frequent Pizzas By the Slice are normally drunk. This explains why they believe the pizza is better than it actually is. They get 1 star for being open late and one star for not serving me cardboard. Make sure to bring cash, no credit is accepted.

My first time having pesto pizza and it was amazing. The slices are totally huge and the prices rather cheap for what you get. They're open late and they're always busy. Perfect spot for watching ridiculous locals - hipsters, drunks, bros, whoever. I wish I lived closer!

Nice variety of pizza at this neighborhood pizza place. Gluten-free and vegan options. Not NY style, but they have a real pizza oven so its comes out pretty good. They have all the right toppings too.

I am such a loyal fan of Pieces that it's ridiculous! GOOD: They're open late Friendly staff Lots of seating Will make it the way you like it (i.e. adding additional toppings) Alcohol served Pesto Bread Stick = DELICIOUS GOODNESS! They RECYCLE People from all walks of life come here to do what humans are supposed to do: ENJOY GOOD PIZZA! Bad: Nothing! ** okay, actually one time at 11 PM or Midnite there was a long line but it moved quickly and of course there will be a long time at a great pizza place! It's worth it! Temporary pain for long term gain!

This is an insult to pizza. A better description: thick, tasteless slice of bread with Cambell's Tomato Soup on top. Oh yeah, greasy pepperoni and pieces of meat masquerading as sausage. The redeeming thing here was the bottled Coke imported from Mexico so it has real sugar.

  • Lacey C.

I LOVE PIECES PIZZA! It's tasty pizza by the slice. They have plenty of veg options and take care to keep the veg pizza away from the carnivorous slices. They also have a real awesome toppings table where you can adorn your slices with any and every condiment you desire. From tabasco and sri racha to garlic flakes and parmesan it's good stuff. Warning this place is CASH ONLY, there is an ATM across the street however if you do not bank with Chase you will be charged 3.00 so come with some cash in hand!

  • Brad L.

The pizza is great. I particularly like the pesto. The staff is always friendly and they make a great late night stop after a night of drinking. If you feel really decadent get the pesto sticks. The fact that they are cash only can be annoying. Also, the pizza is not cheap but at least the slices are large. This is not a place to feed a large group or get a whole pizza. It makes a better late night snack or small meal before going out.

  • Natalye R.

This place goes down as my all-time pick of the best place to get the best slice of pesto pizza EVER (or any kind of pizza for that matter) - one that is dripping with savory pesto and cheesy delicious gloriousness. Now that I'm vegan about 50 weeks of the year, this place takes a backseat. Plus, I don't even live in Sacramento any longer, otherwise I know I'd be tempted to break edge like every day. What sets this place over the top is not the amazing goodness of its offerings, or the fact that it's open late, or the rad (and somewhat eccentric) people who work at and frequent the place - no what sets this place at the top of pizza places is the attitude. Like the time I came in moments before closing. And I ordered my pesto slice, which was the last pesto slice available. And there was other pizza left. So the guy working asked if I'd like to have an extra slice, on the house, to avoid wasting pieces. I, of course, obliged. And tasted double the deliciousness. And that memory stuck in my mind alongside the awesomeness and simplicity of this place. So if any of my cheese or meat-eating friends ask me of the best pizza place to go to in Sacramento, this is always - ALWAYS - the place I recommend.

    1. Pizza is not to bad. 2. The service and staff were horrible and lost me as a customer. 3. The place is not very clean and i wanted to get my daughter and her sister out of there ASAP. 4. Not worth the price....at all.

This place is a little bit pricey per slice, but coming here on a random night, I discover the "Pesto-roni" pizza slice. This place is a little small with outside seating so it's real nice on a summer night. The pizza here is fresh and the crust is crispy and warmed before given to you. A slice will run you about $5+, but it's a good experience and taste!

It's alright. I don't know what the hype is all about. Doesn't even compare to Blondies Pizza or Pizza By The Slice in the Bay. Was not impressed the 1st time I came here. One of the workers didn't show up for their shift so they had to close shop early. No good customer service at all. The whole time there all we heard was them complaining how one of the workers didn't show up and how that they started the 1st shift. Not a great way to show all the customers "GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE" They were not attentive to our orders. They messed up on one of the orders. Doesn't even seem like a clean enviroment. They looked dirty like they have been playing in dirt. They don't wash their hands when they make the pizza. I was disgusted with that. I would not even go back. Plus they are PRICEY for their not soo good pizza by the slice. Maybe I had gone on a wrong/rough day. This my review for now. I might give it a second chance and who knows I might end up editing my review. NOT!

2.5 stars would suit this place, but I'll round up. Here is a breakdown: - 1 star for terrible service. Some crotchety old lady was working and she was getting all fussy at us for taking the only two fresh pesto/pepperoni slices and someone else behind us wanted them. Then another lady in line was willing to wait any amount of time that it would take to get one large pizza and the worker was being all rude and fussy about having to make a large pizza and wouldn't even acknowledge her asking how long she might guesstimate that it would take. It was an absolutely insane and unprofessional situation. -1/2 a star due to the fact that they have crazy unpleasant patrons as well as workers every time I eat there. -1 Star because they are cash only. But, there is a Chase ATM across the street. Non-Chase Bankers have to pay the ATM Fee's on top of their some what okay pizza, not cool--subtract a star for sure! +1 Star because the pizza is way more delicious when drunk. +1 Star because the pesto pepperoni is WAY better than Uncle Vito's pesto pepperoni!

The pizza: great! They have pesto options, vegan, and meatlovers! They also do stuffed crust! Great late-night snack in Midtown! A word of advice: transients and drunk college age miscreants hang outside this place (it seems) every night after sundown. They really add some flavor

My friend suggested that we have lunch here the other day. I had not been here before, but I'm a fan of pizza so I decided to give it a try. I usually go to Zelda's down the road if I want pizza so I wanted to try something different. I chose to have the pesto pizza and add garlic, and it was VERY delicious! The crust is very chewy and the slices are sized very well so one piece is just enough. If you like hole in the wall pizza places, this is a great place to try. Friendly service and atmosphere as well.

I went there with my husband, the piece I selected had just came out of the oven so it was good, unfortunately the one he got did not it was maybe made couple of hours before and it was very hard the pieces of chicken were dried out... Not very good for a almost $7 sliece... Service was ok some employees were not very friendly but I don't expect the best service in a location like this... So my advice make sure u select from the slices recently out of the oven.. Another thing I notice was there is some hygiene issues I notice some of the employees working withou gloves and some of them wiping their sweat out of their face off and touching food afterwards... But again in anplece like this I guess that's normal!!!

Do yourself a favor. Skip Zeldas dry, tasteless, pie crust (down the block) and get a slice at Pieces. Pieces is so delicious I can barely believe it. I get the pesto with sundried tomatoes and feta. One slice is big enough for a meal and I can eat some pizza! They roll the sauce into the crust, which is a like a huge, soft, yummy breadstick. My friend calls ahead and they make her vegan pizza! I don't know how they do it, but it is the perfect combination of soft dough inside and crunchy on the outside. You won't be sorry. It's the best pizza in Sac.

Last night after having a great time at Kupros. I went over to have a quick bite with my buds in the after-after party grub search. The place is small and easy to walk past if you are not careful. This isn't a date place but good for a quick bite. I tried a slice of sausage pizza and it was pretty good. Huge bonus points for having coke in a real glass bottle and the ever guilty pleasure drink Shasta Tiki Punch... (Yes I know... but it's really good!) The price was cheap and the pizza slice was pretty big. So a win-win situation in my book.

My girlfriend an I just moved from Sacramento to Pittsburgh, PA and wanted to grab a pizza from pieces before our flight. When I called, 15 minutes before they opened, Mari answered and was very friendly and helpful and started working on my pizza immediately. As soon as the doors opened Mari was there with a smile on her face, a hot steaming pizza in her hands, and even a love note written on the pizza box. If you want an amazing pizza and even better service, go to Pieces Pizza and ask for Mari!

Herbs and cheese are baked into the crust of the pizza. I had ordered a whole pie over the phone before they were closing and the guy was extremely helpful and is the reason for the 5 stars. He said if the place was closed on arrival to just knock and he'll still be there to give the pizza. Upon arrival the pizza was burnt and he offered to remake it if the wait wouldn't be a problem. That's exceptional service to me. Most people have a slow day at work and jet out as soon as they can and this guy handled it.

I am totally down with the late night pizza after going out. After going to Shady Lady Saloon we went by to my friend's place in Mid Town and found Pieces. Not having high expectations for a pizza after spot pieces was so good! Cash only with choices like Hawaiian, pesto, vegetarian, pepperoni, cheese, etc. They warmed your slice up and there is seating inside and outside. The tables and chairs were medal lawn chairs which was kind of cold on my legs. Free SMALL cups of water. The best part of the vegetarian pizza I had was that the crust was stuffed and super garlicky. Yum.

Pizza by the slice this good will save your life on the right drunken night! I have been to the mountaintop brothers and sisters, and I have been saved! Don't know of any other pizza-by-the-slice places in Sacramento, but this pizza is exceptional. The crust is unusual... a bit doughy but in a good way. The pizza chicks always call you "hon" and "sweetie" and will offer to top your slice with fresh garlic before they reheat it. They have pies sitting on the counter behind a window but will throw just your slices back into the oven to serve at the proper bubbly-cheeze-and-oozing-grease temperature. Love the purposefully graffittied bathroom and the fact that their tip jar is full of water. Perpetrators with wet pockets will be punished!! If you haven't been here before, do not hesitate to try it. Be aware that the selection of available slices is variable and hours are hard to figure (try to catch them open before midnite during the weekdays). Weekends are probably more likely to find them open at least till 1 or 2 a.m. Bless this place.

A little pricey for a slice of pizza, but the pizza was delicious - i couldn't believe i'd never been there and had to be introduced by someone who doesn't even live in Sacramento, and the employees were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Good (if limited) beer on tap, and an exceptional range of hot sauces (at least a dozen) - because they appreciate what a deeply personal choice that is, and provide options without judgment. (If we're in there at the same time, i will judge you by your choice, but the employees won't). Cash only, which is a bit annoying in midtown.

The pizza here is solid and the slices are LARGE. From my experiences, the pizza here are flavorful (maybe more if I don't dab the grease off) with bit of creative at times. I had some variation of a Hawaiian pizza last night. I asked for some extra garlic. I'm not sure if it made it better or worst, but I love garlic. I think you can tell a lot about how good a pizza is by the crust. I took a bite of my friend's pizza too, which had feta, pepperoni and some veggies. It may have been better than my slice. I was never a fan of stuffed crust, but I liked it here. The environment of the place is not upscale and I guess I can best describe it as "hippy-espe." Nothing I could complain about. Overall, if I was satisfied. It's not bland like a lot of the pizza places that are open late.

Pieces is one of the best pizza places on the planet! Pieces not only uses some of the best ingredients, but the atmosphere is unique and awesome! I would go there just for the atmosphere, I would go there just for the pizza, but together it becomes a magical experience. If your in sacramento and haven't been to pieces, you haven't gotten the full experience. Must GO

I was advised last night by a friend that I would be going to a hippie pizza parlor to my delight. I arrived and was greeted by a girl and this chill Rasta looking brah with a dread cap on. I checked out their menu board and saw what looked to be some pretty good stuff. I ordered the pesto and sun dried tomato and regular pepperoni. They didn't have any fresh pepperoni, so I had to wait like 5-10 minutes, but the girl was polite and delivered it piping hot to my table when it was ready. The pizza was damn good, man. The pan crust was perfectly cooked. Crispy but not burnt on the bottom and doughy on the top. The pesto was magnificent, and rolled back into the buttery end crust. Both slices were fantastic, and the crust was cooked to what I consider perfect. The slices are pretty damn big too. Two slices filled me up proper. They have a few beers on tap, and like ~$1 off a pint when it's raining outside, which is pretty cool. The staff was chill, the pizza fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. I'm a big fan of the heavy pesto bias here and dig the no frills paper plate approach. 3 slices, and an old school bottled coke ran like $16.

I feel like Pieces and I have a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde type of relationship. The drunk Kat stumbling back from the Press Club can't get enough. The sober Kat realizes that this place smells really, really BAD. Okay, the stench might have been coming from a patron but good god, I was eating outside and that putrid smell just kept wafting over each time the door would open and shut. I kept looking around for the valet from Seinfeld. So Pieces and I will make our peace during my next drunken bender. Until then, 3 stars for the simple fact that you serve Pizza by the slice and are affordable enough for even the stinkiest of folks.

This review is mainly for the pesto slice. It's to die for. I only get the pesto here however, I just don't like their cheese pizza. Minus a star for being cash only, having not the nicest staff, and for the worst ranch I've ever had in my life.

Probably the first time I went here I wouldn't leave giving this place a 5 star rating. ...And then the cravings began. Usually late night, but sometimes even mid afternoon. Fact, me and my wife have an ongoing joke where I'll begin asking a late night question "You know what sounds good right now...?" and the answer is "Pieces." The crowd is not really "kid friendly" for most, but I'd take my kid there and have. My recommendation - get a slice of anything with pesto sauce and if you love garlic as them to cover it with as much as they're willing to - and they will at no additional cost!

This is a great little hole in the wall restaurant. The counter guy was friendly and helpful. When I went to put a dollar bill in the tip jar I got a hand full of water. Gives new meaning to the term "Wet Ones" Argh, argh, argh.... Counter guy explained it was for security reasons. It's hard to pay for pizza with money you snuck out of the tip jar if it's all soggy. Likewise, it's hard to walk out with the cash if you have a big water spot on your jeans. Good low tech security idea. I was really impressed with this pizza I had chicken with some type of white sauce. I liked the thin crust because it was perfectly toasted and stayed firm. Other thin crust pizzas get soaked through so the crust is flaccid and floppy. Tilt it in the wrong direction and the sauce goes everywhere. There's nothing more awkward than walking out of a restaurant with a big sauce spot on your lap.

Four star average? Really? Here are my negative fives: -After Dogs walking around and sleeping in the kitchen, -pizza dough seen being kneaded up against a bare belly with a cheap bedazzled piercing, -human feces hieroglyphs on the bathroom walls, -an over abundance of insects, so much that they must be pets and have names, -and last but not least, human secretions that can never be wiped clean off the food preparation counter, I will never eat here again and my bowels have been thanking me for 8 years. Have fun eating here and get comfy on your toilet in an eta of about 13.5 mins.

Seriously one of the best dingy, grimy, open late, pizza-by-the-slice places I've ever been to. Better than NYC pizza. On of the few places I've been to that doesn't serve up burnt and crunchy slices, but just the right amount of doughy and chewy. They offer a number of good topping choices; I went with the uber mushroom and pesto one. Shit was D-lish. Huge slices, colorful crowd, the works. It definitely gave me a good impression of downtown Sac.

What the hell!? Am I the only one that has ingested pizza from Pieces while sober!? . . . and has lived to tell about it? Fortunately . . or, unfortunately . . things haven't changed much here. I've been coming to this place for about 15 years now. Back then (as a broke youngster looking for cheap lunch), I can remember only paying like $2.50 for a huge piece with meat and or veggies on it. . . . Today,(at lunch and totally sober again) I paid $5.00 for a tasty garlicky creamy-sauced veggie one. The nice rasta gal there asked me if I wanted fresh garlic and feta . . . Of-fricken-course, I did! While, yes, this place doesn't look to be the most hygienic (and it never did). . . .she wore "food-handling" gloves thee whole time I saw her prepare or touch any food. $5.00 for a BIG piece of pizza loaded with veggies, three kinds of cheese, and fresh garlic is worth it to me, and my rumbling tummy. Ya, ya the clientele can be a bit sketchy - but, hell ... it reminds me of the old days when the sketchy ppl outnumbered the hipsters in midtown . . and, that is strangely refreshing to me (not in the take- a-deep-whiff- kinda way) IMO, Pieces pizza is much better than Uncle Vito's pizza by the slice. . . and Pieces has been doing this for years! . . . so, they have pretty much perfected the big, greasy (isn't most pizza greasy by nature) pizza slice! Oh, and they even have a small selection of books for the kiddies to peruse while you sit back and enjoy a libation and BIG slice o' pie.

I'm sure St. Pattys night was a tough one for them, but all four slices we got were uneventful, not cooked all the way, and an overload of Sun Dried is not good for anybody. I love the concept, I'm sure a full pizza would be good. But if you know your going to get slammed, make 30 pies and wait for the rush. We didn't have to wait long at all, but the pizza was uncooked so the dough tasted....well, like dough in water. The pesto was cooked more but had about 50 sun dried tomatoes per slice. Ouch. I rarely offer words of advice, but I have some. Get some ingredients on your good crust, cook the pizza fully, and get some flavor in the tomato sauce. It does taste like campbells tomato soup as one yelper said before.

By far my favorite pizza by the slice place in midtown. Although there are two new similar places in the area, they can't compete with the flavor of these pizzas. Definitely try the pesto! The staff has always been friendly and the vibe is very laid back.

I love this place! Went here for the first time early Sunday morning after a night of drinking...like everyone else. I ordered the pepperoni while my two friends ordered pesto. I already paid for mine and had to wait for my friends because their pesto pizza was still in the oven. While waiting, the lady behind the counter was really nice. We had conversations with her and also, she gave us a free slice of pesto pizza and cut it in thirds while we waited. It was delicious! The crust was omg!..We stepped out of there at about 2:45 am...there were still people sitting in there after they told everyone it was time to close about 15 minutes ago. I took my slice home...the lover wanted some of mine, so I cut it in half and shared it with him. He was impressed. Said that it was better than Vito's on 16th, when he was praising how good it was the weekend before to me, trying to rub it in my face since I didn't get to have any. Ha! was all I said.

I am really surprised at the reviews here. I have eaten here twice and both times, I could honestly say the pizza was the worst I have ever had. I eat a lot of food, and do it professionally, and I have never experienced anything worse. The second time was worse more because I could not believe I wasted another few bucks on something I ended up regretting. I can see that people like a neighborhood shop sticking around, or that this place is open late, but if it is not late, go to Paesanos or Round Table, and if it is late, walk a couple blocks to Luigi's. The best thing to do is avoid Pieces completely and that is good advice me thinks. I read other reviews and it sounds like Pieces is consistent, so I doubt I had some bad experience, twice. Maybe it is an acquired taste, but I have yet to acquire a taste for trash.

Pizza is yummy! I love the pesto and pesto roll. The pizza is warmed up and when it comes out the crust is golden brown and crispy! YUMMY CASH only joint!! Beware, but there is a ATM near..

Granted...it's a pricey spot...relatively. I mean...it's pizza by the slice ya know? 8.50 was my total and thats with a dollar tip thrown in. They dont skimp on the cheese...so thats a bonus. And truth to tell...you really only need one slice to feel pretty full. The people there are great...they are always very polite and take care of business, i've been going there for years, and it's always the same level of service. all the workers are way hippied out bordering on lookin like crust punks, but dont let that scare you off... i've been eating there for years and never got sick and they are way nice -so remember to tip things to know about pieces that you might not have... -they have a frequent buyers card... buy 9 get 1 free...but you gotta ask... the cards are like random pieces of paper...i've had mine for over 8 years....and they are kept there. -you can add fresh garlic to any slice free of charge. -they have day old slices for 2 bucks... fuck yeah

Why... why.. why.. WHY did I do this to myself? Especially the day before the start of my new "eating healthy" routine.... It was love at first sight when I saw the black olives and mushroom slice. I've only dreamt of a pizza so loaded with olives before, but now it was right infront of me! You do not understand my love for black olives. After a couple of drinks at our local dive my friend and I marched on over here, he was shocked I had never been there before so he ordered me to try it. I suppose the random hippies and bums that like their outdoor seating was what drew me away all this time. A giant slice is $5, reasonable especially since everything is made there and the products are top notch. Once get our piping hot pizza we head over to a little table they have in the corner, it's filled with all types of condiments and every hot sauce under the sun! Yum, I love condiments! It was a little too warm for us inside but they do offer indoor seating but we found a nice little table outside to enjoy the breeze. The pizza was delicious, just the right amount of everything and perfectly cooked. The best part was, the crust is stuffed with pesto. It was like having a different pizza slice at the end! If I could have pesto stuffed crust all day, believe me I would! Now if the staff would crack a smile, it would be the cherry on top.

Large pieces of delicious pizza. Both the pepperoni and the pesto slices are excellent. The price seems a bit high for reheated pizza, but the flavor is good and the pizza really hits the spot. Not much for ambiance, but if you just want a slice or two of hot delicious pizza on the go, this is a great choice. They are CASH ONLY, which is really inexcusable in this day and age- I wish they would get a clue.

Best slice in sacramento. We call this place "stoner pizza"... it's a cultural experience. Late at night, this place is often operating on a vibe of its own. It's fun. Strangers talk to each other. No one really understands what anyone else is saying. I get the feeling everyone is high and has the munchies. There's often vegan pizza. Sometimes there are delicious bread sticks. Eat one of those. The employees are adorable and kind. Dogs are often sitting at the tables out front. This sucks when the dogs aren't mellow. There is a lot of cheese involved. Too much sometimes. I've never left unhappy. This place is iconic.

Piece's is great!!! I love stopping by if I'm in the neighborhood or for a late night slice of pizza. True, not the most beautiful little spot in town, but I came here for good pizza, not granite countertops and expensive wine. Piece's is great at what they do...really good pizza. The crust is amazing, and the sauce and cheese always seem to be at the perfect ratio. Late night hours make Piece's even better.

All I have is 3 words for you...Yummy, Yummy, Yummy! The pesto, feta and sundried tomato pizza with garlic is delicious. You might think at first, wow this is a little pricey for a slice...but once you take your first bite....all that changes and you realize you get what you paid for!

Midnight hunger wasn't the only thing. The place was open, it was close to where I lived, and found it there for me. I don't think the owner has much to do about that, which makes the pizza that much more enjoyable.... I came in late night, wanted something to eat, didn't want to make a big deal about it, except for the price, and found it to be good for the amount I was willing to spend at the time. The service was like any other pizza place....I thought the public went there for the service, at first. The place- like a fine tuned welcome to town kinda atmosphere. The price is what I'm after....a 6 dollar pizza slice that's like icing on the cake. I thought the "pieces" would fit, meaning I would be satisfied with my experience there. I keep going for more.....

The pizza tastes different every time. The pesto used to be rolled up into the crust, but it's not as thick anymore. You have to love the hours of operation. I don't like being hasselled by some of the patrons. The moods of employees change with the days. I prefer the dude with the deads. I don't know what it is about their beer, but I had a blonde ale and I woke up at 5 am the next morning with the gnarliest headache ever. I'll keep going here late night until I find a good bacon wrapped polish dog street vendor with a green health inspection card.

Yum.... their pesto pizza is the best :) This restaurant has a very calm atmosphere that usually has good reggae music or other chill music playing. It reminds me of Chico and I think that's why I like it so much. Their pizza slices (sold by the slice or as a whole pizza) are large and the crust is unique and tasty too. A can of soda and a pesto slice is about $7 and is a fun lunch every so often.

What I love most is that this place will never be popular. The people who run Pieces don' t care if you eat there. I really don't even think they want you to eat there except they need to buy enough pot to stay a little ripped. The place is on the dirty side and the service ranges from take it or leave it to surly (if you cop an attitude). The ambience could best be described as whatever the fck we want to do. This includes making any pizza they want whenever they want and closing whenever the hell they feel like it. That being said, the pizza is damn good. The pizza features the crust. It isn't deep dish but there is a generous abount of crust. It is VERY good. As one poster pointed out, there is no way to know what type of pizza they will have when you walk in. Though no one will tell you this, they will add anything to your pizza that you ask for...the only thing they advertise is the garlic added. I'd recommen that you gave the pesto pizza (as they almost always have it) and ask them to add one or two toppings if you must. Don't get carried away asking them to do special sht. Just eat your pizza it's really god dmnd good.

Loved the Pizza here and it was very well priced. They had a very good selection of pizza's and their willingness to cook two whole pies for my party of 10 was pretty awesome. I have to say that I like the enviornment and the people who were there.

Oh God, I seriously dream and crave their pesto pizza. Some of the best pizza with chill staff and atmosphere; minus the bums outside. Being asked for cigs or money is worth this heavenly pizza.

A bit on the pricey side when you consider it is sold by the slice, but boy do I enjoy every single morsel of their fresh pizza pies. Despite the negative remarks towards the employees they have never been anything but fantastic to me every time I've come in. One time in particular the mister and I made our way here during Second Saturday, and of course it was PACKED. They had a sign posted that they only had pepperoni or cheese with no substitutions or add-ons allowed. Maybe my BF charmed the harried girl behind the counter but she added some extras for him after telling us " shhhh, only for you two." We, or rather he was super jazzed that he got his pesto and pepperoni but as we were still in line I heard the same girl bang on the glass divider pointing at the sign for a customer who asked for a substitution. Ehhhh, rule breaking is great when it's in your favor but not so much when it's not. Still, even with semi soup Nazi-ish people manning the counter and the sometimes harassing riff-raff out front the crowd isn't bad, especially since it is downtown after all and the cheesy and gooey stuffed crust pizza makes up for any small misgivings.

  • Janine S.

Love it! The pesto pizza, with its oily goodness leaking through napkin after napkin, is my fav. One slice will fill you up and have you scrambling to plan your next visit. This is a great place to go after clubbing downtown (they have club friendly hours). This is definitely NOT your typical pizza joint, so feel free not to bring the kids for a sit-down meal, unless you want them to get a great 420 education from other patrons.

The downtown/midtown scene has changed a lot in the last decade, but thankfully Pieces has remained the same. NOTE - PIECES IS (and always has been) CASH ONLY (there is a chase across the street, don't worry) Go for a slice of pesto, stay for the people watching and a pitcher of cider. During the day this is also a highly kid friendly spot. My daughter gets her slice just the way she likes it, and they cut it in 1/2 on request for her handling ease. This is not a fancy joint, so if you want linen tablecloths and overpriced appetizers, go out to roseville, but if you want someplace to kick back and have delish pizza, this is a Sacramento jewel that I hope never fades away.

  • Monet N.

Pieces is an alternative place for pizza if you're used to like Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and Round Table. They do serve by the slice so it's good to go after drinking and whatever shananigans you're up to for the evening. Their slices are pretty darn big and I've heard their pesto is good as well but everytime I've tried to order one they run out. So I've had only their pepperoni which isn't too bad but not great. The staff and people here are chill and an eclectic bunch. Sometimes I feel a little uncomfortable like I don't belong there because I'm not edgy or whatevs. That won't stop me though but after reading about these "urban legends" is making me iffy about the place. So I say try at your own risk.

I like pizza by the slice places. Dives, food carts, and taco stands....I'm not expecting much but quick, good, greasy, comfort food. People were saying there are cobwebs, eat droppings..etc. I personally didn't see that. There were unbussed tables and unswept floors & I heard the men's bathroom was dirty (which I do think reflects on the cleanliness if a restaurant/kitchen). The pizza was actually really good. I like crispy crusts and cheese that gets burned on the edges and clings to the pizza with each bite. I'll update if I have any digestive issues. I'm worry about this after reading other comments while I was still eating my pizza. (Too late to stop mid-pizza consumption!) The music isn't bad, just really loud. No line on a Sunday night. This place is vegan friendly. Recycle bins are present. And CASH ONLY! Which I hate since I never carry cash. Definitely a hole in the wall, but so far, so good!

  • Kayla S.

Soooo good! Pizza with a crust that's basically a pizza in itself! The added garlic on top really adds more amazing-ness to the pizza. I also recommend a side of pesto ranch. It's definitely worth the extra .50 cents! Pretty small shop with tons of flavor. Great for a quick bite if you're downtown. Note: CASH ONLY!

I have had it with incompetent service workers. I paid for TWO slices of pizza to go and when I finally sat down to eat after a 20 hour day with no breaks or food, I found only ONE slice of pizza which I gave to my hungry girlfriend as I went without.

I find that I never write good reviews for places I go. It's like when you watch the news and all the bad stuff is shown, but rarely anything good?! I LOVE YOU PIECES, and I'll never cheat on you again... Tonight I actually paid for and ate the worst pizza of my life. It's probably rude to say where so I won't but here's a clue, it's a stones throw away and the title of an original Nintendo game. Anywhoo PIECES IS THE FREAKIN' BEST and I dare not venture out again. Promise!!

Pieces is one of my fav pizza places in midtown, and there are two things that elevate their status: that amazingly delish pesto pizza, and that they are open REALLY late. If I want to be nit-picky, I have two teeny, tiny complaints: they only take cash, and they need real to-go containers. Proceed to Pieces and you won't be disappointed.

A few friends and I wanted to go somewhere for a bite to eat for dinner on a Sunday night. Since one of us was vegan, we wanted to make sure we found a place that would be enjoyable for all of us. We came across this place on yelp, and I'm so glad we tried it out! Just make sure to BRING CASH since it's a cash only restaurant. They have a pretty good menu, and they also have vegan pizzas as well! Unfortunately, they were out of all vegan pizzas when we got there, but the guy at the counter simply made a new one. As for the rest of us, we chose whatever was premade already and it was reheated in the oven. Because he did have to make a new pizza, it did take a while until we were all able to eat. But I think the wait was worth it! Once we all had our food, we started eating. And oh. My. Goodness. I kid you not. The pizza was so good! My favorite part had to be the crust: a perfect combination of doughy and crunchy. I personally love doughy crusts, so it was perfect for me! The restaurant also has a table of sauces that you can add to your pizza for free! I thought it was a nice addition in case you wanted to try something different. (Sriracha, buffalo sauce, sweet and sour sauce, etc.) I would definitely come back to this place!

Lemme tell ya, the pizza is by the slice cos they are stuffed crust & freggin' huge! All you need is one slice & it'll set you off! The staff gives you the option of minced garlic to top off your slice. Garlic gives it a nice bite! Pretty cool set up on the inside & tables on the outside.

In regards to lunch hour, when me and a group of friends walked in no one was there to greet us, the pizza looked very old, a female employee with hipster bangs was very rude and impatient with us. After she rushed into the store after being outside with her friends, she tried rushing us the whole time and when we decided to leave she just rushed out to be with her friends outside. Overall this was very disappointing due to the fact of their high ratings.

Mmmmm. Pizza. It was 10 pm. I was craving pizza and found this place on yelp. Bring cash!! They don't take cards here. Boyfriend and I got PestoRoni and Pesto Feta Sundry (sun-dried tomatoes). Both with Garlic. The pizzas are all made, and when you order what you want they'll reheat it for you. I was iffy about it but upon tasting it. I'm definitely a fan. The crust is nice and crispy. You get it hot and tasted almost as if it were fresh. The crust has pesto!!! My boyfriend who never eats the crust likes theirs. The staff here are super friendly! Since we were the only ones there at the time, we were able to have a conversation with them. Great location in midtown. Definitely the place to go to for pizza after night life in midtown

I had always thought Pieces had great pizza, but it might just be because I always come here really late at night when I'm always drunk. The last time I was here I got a slice of pesto and I remember it being reeeaally greasy!! I mean, yeah it tasted good but my hands were a mess afterwards, my paper plate was transparent, and I felt really guilty for eating it! Also it doesn't feel like it's worth $5-$6 for ONE SLICE of pizza nowadays when you can get a whole pizza at lil caesers for $6. And I knooooww, it's all about QUALITY!! But I used to go to Blondie's all the time in Berkeley where they had a "pizza of the day" special where you can get a good slice of pizza for $2.99. Maybe something Pieces could start incorporating into their menu. And not to sound like a huge whistleblower, but I came here just last Friday and my friends said they saw someone come in with a wad of wet cash, and the workers just stuck the money in the oven to dry it...the SAME OVEN they cook our pizzas in?!?! That's kind of gross. Everybody loves money, but we all know money's filthy right?

Is this some kind of cruel joke? My $6.75 slice of pizza came with a surprise - jalapenos and pineapple hidden in the crust. GROSS!

Okay. I ADMIT IT. Better Slice Than I First Realized SITREP Or put another way: "Cheesier and Bigger than Luigi's." Sometimes it takes going to another pizzeria to put things in perspective, and this is one of those times. I hadn't been to Pieces in more than a couple of years, but now I've been 3 times in the last 2 months, and so I really need to drop this update and bump up my original review up by 1-Star since Pieces truly deserves it. A TALE OF TWO PIZZAS I live in Midtown, and I club in Midtown. LATE. So I am going to be looking at places nearby (since I tend to walk to venues in Midtown) that I can enjoy POST-CLUB SUSTENANCE with my friends. And as it were, also located in Midtown is both Luigi's and Pieces - which for all intents and purposes, comes my two reviews (the review for Luigi's and this update for Pieces) since they are the two competitors for my late night pizza dollar. As I mentioned on my Luigi's review, Luigi's me comes on my radar ONLY for late night munchies since I find better quality and better cost pizza / salad combo options exist during the day at places like Giovanni's, Uncle Vitos, Round Table, Rico's etcs. So I'd never go to Luigi's during the day by choice (and by day, I honestly mean "before 9pm"). Typically this is true for Pieces as well, but mainly because I'm never in the Midtown hood for lunch time, and if so, only because someone else drove and we tend to hit NON-pizza establishments, unless we are going to Vitos. MY PIZZA METRICS FOR RATING I gave Luigi's 3 stars. But in this review update, I'm giving Pieces 4 stars. I give the Pieces the extra bump over Luigi's for a couple of things: (1) It's open hella HELLA late - Luigi's shut down by 1am, whereas Pieces is open til 2:30am on the weekend. See the advantage here? If you close a club down at 1:30am in Midtown, you're screwed if you were hoping to get pizza from Luigi's. Not so with Pieces; (2) Pieces has the far far higher quality slice of pizza - much bigger, much thicker, I notice more pepperoni, I notice more cheese. It IS about a buck and a half more per slice. So a classic case of you get what you pay for. But when wanting a quality slice of pizza, I'd rather go with the rich, full slice at $5 than the cheaper, weaker in ingredients slice of pizza under $4; (3) Additionally, if I'm already out AND clubbing with friends at Midtown Barfly or The Press Club or the Distillery or The Townhouse (some of faves), I'd rather hit PIECES instead since I'm already in it's orbit and much further away from Luigi's. And also to be blunt, if I'm with people, I'd rather treat them to a BETTER QUALITY slice of the VEGGIE, the PESTO, the CHEESE, the MEAT COMBO, etc. etc. at Pieces. Luigi's is better for me personally when I'm flying solo, I'm walking home, and I'm looking more for something cheap to fill the hole in my stomach. So it all depends what the circumstances are at any given moment that triggers a pizza trip to Pieces or not. THE LOWDOWN A very good, quality slice of pizza.

$12 personal gluten free pesto with cheese pizza... Yummy and fed me 2 meals. I recommend calling ahead for the GF, as it is popular. Love that they have vegetarian/vegan options. Staff is super chill, comfortable to be around. Its a very relaxed environment. This place is like a hidden gem!

I am a big pizza fanatic so I would give this place a pretty big thumbs up! Especially the pesto pizza and draft beers for $4 bucks! Open late on weekdays till 11pm, this spot is a really cool place to come to for a moderate price.

I'm not going to start off by saying I wanted to like this place, because I didn't drive all the way down here from Fair Oaks to be disappointed. The atmosphere inside was friendly. There were few diners in spite of the dinner hour, but then again, this is a late night place. My order was promptly taken, and my pizza slices were delivered within minutes. They are HUGE, but sadly in this case size doesn't matter. I had the pesto slice and the plain cheese slice. The pesto slice was so loaded with topping that I couldn't pick it up to eat. It was greasy and overpowered by the taste of garlic (and I LOVE garlic). I put it aside. The cheese slice disappointed when I realized they had stuffed the crust with cheese too. WTF! Isn't that a chain pizza joint trick? I ate the slice, but the crust lacked any type of flavor, or if it did is was buried under the carpet of cheeses. I left with my pesto slice in a bag and a feeling of confusion as to what the hype is all about here. I'm Italian, from Philly, and I was weaned on pizza. This place has potential, but it's all about the crust guys, and for that I can't give you more than 2 stars. BTW, cash only.

I love Pieces! I've been coming here for over 10 years, and I'm glad it's still around. I love the pick a slice, heat it in the oven, and enjoy format. I love that they have massive slices of lots of different pizzas on hand at all times. I love that they have an amazing craft beer selection to accompany the delicious pizza. Well done, Pieces!!

Laid back, funky, friendly and delicious. The employees always make you feel welcome, and the pizza, particularly the vegetarian, is amazing. If you find it too hard to locate or not fancy enough, maybe you should try CPK instead, that just makes more room for the people who appreciate such a lovely little unpretentious whole in the wall.

Not the best I had but not the worst.Way too pricey for what you get, we spent 32.00 bucks on 3 slices of pizzas 2 pesto bread sticks and one salad and that's not including drinks. At five bucks a slice way too pricey, we could have gotten a couple of full pizzas for the price we paid. Overall not a bad slice of pizza.

I can never remember if this place is called Pieces or Slices. I've lived in Midtown for quite some time and still can't remember. But that's neither here nor there. My review of this place depends on what my current state of drunken-ness is. 3 stars currently because at present, I am sober because it is Sunday night. Had I started drunk-Yelping Pieces on Friday night, this review would obviously be a 6-star review. Yes, I am presently aware that 6 star reviews don't exist in Yelp world, but again, if this were Friday night, 6 star reviews would exist in my mind. I used to always get the pesto pizza, until one night a long long time ago, my pesto pizza ended up on my lap. Long story short, that greasy green monster ruined whatever I was wearing (knowing my luck, it was a white shirt). The mushroom olive has been my recent favorite. Shoot, if I'm eating pizza at 2am, I might as well try to eat some vegetables also to lessen my guilt. Is it me, or does this place have the most random decor inside? It's like, "Oh you're outdoors eating pizza near an arbor" when really you're indoors under florescent lights sitting next to fake plants. There are other little quirks about this place that I love. The tips pitcher. Dollar bills and change drenched in a pitcher of water. What's the purpose of this? Is it to prevent surly drunkards from reaching in and grabbing tips to pay for their slice? Probably. When did Pieces get bouncers?! I mean, in theory, a great idea because everyone is drunk in here past midnight on the weekend. In practice, it's just a little weird to me. It makes me feel nervous when I'm in there, like the pizza police is gonna come after me. I don't think I've ever actually eaten here without having a few drinks in me, so maybe I should be giving this place 6 stars and not 3?

Oh how I love my comvinient hippie pizza. It was better when they had the "ducks" for $2. But the pesto still rocks. Great dough. Fresh tasting toppings. Meal in a slice. Nuff said.

Pricey for a slice but portions are huge. Service is excellent and inside is clean. Plenty of hot sauce to choose from and they have beer. Perfect spot when hunger strikes in midtown.

Sometimes the place is the reason to go, not the just the food. The best pizza place to go in Sacramento. It's down to earth, tasty, and they play the best music. How can you go wrong when they play things like underground hip hop & good classic rock? You can hang out with real people with real personalities, eat some pizza with tasty sauce in the crust, and drink a beer called arrogant bastard(a perfect name for a lovable but kick in the ass beer). Beer, pizza, music I'm in love.

Granted, I've only been here late-night, after drinking WAYYYY too much beer and needing something to help soak up the alcohol so I don't sit down on the curb and fall asleep. The pizza has been yummmmmy whenever I've gone, but I did knock it down a star because I wasn't really exactly in a state of mind to be totally objective about the pizza quality... so, maybe I'll check it out sometime PRE-imbibation (not a word? really? it should be) and update my review.

I have mixed feelings about Pieces Pizza. It's a great place to grab a slice or two when you've had a couple of drinks downtown, but if you're sober, this place definitely loses some of its 'yum' factor. They usually have a good assortment of pizzas and the slices are huge and thin crust, the perfect food to eat with your hands after some pbr's at press club. The restaurant itself is big, lots of seating.

I am completely and utterly IN LOVE with this place! Two things that I wanted to comment on when I read other reviews: -$5 for a slice of heaven is completely reasonable. -I was not drunk or high on any of the many times I've been here, yet I am still obsessed with it! $5 for a huge slice of deliciousness is well worth it to me (even being a completely broke college student). The pesto pepperoni is to die for! and you definitely shouldn't wait until the end to eat the crust, that's the best part! :)

Some friends and I ordered a whole combination with the works...and it was deeelicious. Fresh ingredients make all the difference! The only possible gripe I had was that the crust was a bit dough-y at some parts.

this place rocks for having vegan pizza! it's loaded with fresh veggies and has a delicious olive-stuffed crust. i love that i can chow down on a huge slice without all the fat and grease from cheese.

My current boyfriend type brought me here on a whim while on the same block swearing that even though he felt it was "dirty," that Pieces had the "BEST" pizza. It was a Monday and well after lunch so the place was pretty much empty except for a man reading a graphic novel and the girl behind the counter. There was about four different types of pizza on the counter, the boy ordered his pizza and paid. I didn't even look at prices since I wasn't paying so I have no idea how much a slice was. The girl behind the counter was tattooed and pierced with dreads, she was one of the most interesting aspects of this establishment. Well, that and the graffiti-ed bathrooms. I drank a Diet Pepsi which was sold in cans and had a piece of the boys large slice. It was good, it was well pizza. I tend to like small places so if I was ever in the area again I would probably drop back in for my own slice.

Man, Pieces. This is where all the stoned kids go at 2 AM. In fact, it's right next door to a smoke shop. Very very casual, as in paper-plates, paper-napkins, drink-your-soda-from-a-can casual. But who cares. All the employees are nice, and even though all the women look like unshaven, lesbian hippies, they make a fine pizza pie! Anywhere I'm allowed to hang posters to promote a shitty gig while eating huge slices of delightfully greasy pizza is A-OK in my book. And I don't even have a book!

At the risk of repeating what all others have already said, I will agree the pesto pizza with sundried tomato and feta cheese is quite good. Definitely order a whole pizza with friends, because the singe slices do look pretty old, and not very appetizing. The people running it were nice, but odd. The girl at the register had a hard time adding up our order, which I found quite strange considering they obviously do a lot of business, but she said it was the end of her shift and she wasn't thinking clearly. Hmmm.... The best part is the "colorful" people you will see outside. The ambiance is not great inside, but the atmosphere outside and the delicious crust make it worth it. The creme sodas were also a real treat. Go here with friends and sit outside. It's a fun atmosphere and good late night pizza.

I just wanted to clarify the "sex on the counter urban legend" that gets mentioned. That IS NOT an urban legend. I worked there when the owner talked about having after hours sex on the counter. The wet spot would've been cleaned up eventually. I don't want to eat off my own wet spot, let alone the owner of Pieces. The dog in the kitchen coming out to beg food from the customers was fine by me. I like animals, and sure that's probably not real hygenic, but hey, it's a pizza by the slice place. Barefoot workers are there. But the owner talking to employees about having sex on the counter? Please for your late night drunken food, walk over to Luigi's or Hot Rods.

Before I start writing this review, let me explain something: I am a TRUE pizza connoisseur. I have worked in nine different pizza places, read 4 books about pizza, and have eaten pizza in over 14 different countries. I have ALL kinds of pizza imaginable. Ironically, the worlds best pizza as I know it is in Vienntianne, the capitol of Laos. The LAST place you would ever expect to have the best pizza you have ever had. Now, Pieces.... I have been going here for years. I remember when this place would have a line going out the door and down the block for people waiting for a slice. In fact, when you would wait 45 minutes to get a slice, and just as you're getting close, sometimes the staff would have to come outside and tell the line that they are out of dough/cheese/sauce, etc. For me, when that would happen it would feel like a fortune teller just told me I was going to spend the next 5 years of my life with no sex and a horrible case of irritable bowel syndrome. The pizza here is frigging fantastic. The slices are big, and do a good job of filling you up. Ultimately, I would like to think that good pizza is pizza that you can only get at the place that serves it. For example, there are TONS of pizza places that sell the exact same kind of pizza that you can get from Dominoes, or Pizza Hut. I'm talking about when you have pizza somewhere and the flavor, crust, combo of toppings, or any characteristics single their pizza out. You cant just go to another pizza place and get pizza just like it. Pieces By The Slice has this going for them. One thing that is unique, is their crust. It's rolled out extra long, so they can fold it over and fill it with herbs, sauce and cheese. When people say they don't like stuffed crust, it's usually because they've had some corporate crap pizza that only stuffs their crust with cheese. Yuck. At Pieces when you eat the crust, it's the same as eating the rest of the slice--minus the toppings of course. Another thing about their crust is that it has a distinct flavor, and a chewy but not soggy texture. The sauce has it's own flavor from their own recipe. It simply does not taste like a sauce I've had on pizza from any other place. The pesto sauce is famous here, and even though it tends to be really greasy, it's still VERY nice. There's something about it. You'll taste it, and want it again soon. Other than that they do a really nice job of making good topping combinations, and their toppings are fresh and of good quality. They also have all kinds of other interesting stuff to eat. Sometimes they have a breakfast pizza that is quite good, their pesto sticks are great, and the veggie chili is awesome and cheap for what it is. I wish I could say more about their calzones and deserts, but I have not had any of them--yet. I've seen a lot of reviews about this place that call it dirty, and say the ambiance is like a PHISH concert. But the truth be told I have never seen anything go on here that seems like dirty business practice, and they make the pizza right in front of you, so it's not like they're putting LSD under the cheese. There is a hippie vibe there, and a few of the employees are "hippyish." SO WHAT? The staff is some of the nicest I've encountered and happy with their jobs which ensues that they do nothing do turn you off. The crowd there is always diverse. You can usually see any type of people from business types to hipsters. So it's not like you have dread locks poking you in the eye, or body odor burning your nostrils while you are eating there. I don't understand why anyone would complain about this places' product, or staff. In fact, truth be told I was there the other night soooo drunk it is unbelievable that the staff did not ask me to leave. I don't remember anything from being there, but when I woke up the next morning there was a half eaten pesto slice in my bathroom sink and I had pissed myself while being asleep. I went back the next day to apologize if my behavior was in any way offensive or disruptive, and they let me know that yes I had been there, and that I was indeed shit-faced, but told me not to worry because they always like when I come in. How can you not like that? One other good thing about this place: They have what's called "ducks." If some slices have been out too long (I think thirty minutes is their rule--but don't quote me) they put it out as a "duck." "Ducks" are 2 bucks, making them a VERY cheap and delicious meal. Seriously good pizza, great standards, a good vibe, and great staff. FIVE STARS!! So go there and eat, and tip the staff. They deserve it for dealing with drunks like me all through the week.

I don't know what it is about this place but you either love it or hate it. I guess some people aren't into eating kickass pizza and listening to black metal. Personally, I subscribe to the former category. Yes, it's cash only but there's a bank right across the street so suck it up dude. I usually go in there starving and order two slices, preferably a pesto and a pepperoni or cheese. Consistently, I'm always unable to finish the second slice so I bring it home and watch the grease melt through the paper bag and leave a stain on my Herman Miller computer table. A++

Best Pesto pizza I've ever had. They have good to great pizza and beer for a reasonable price and they're open on the weekends till around 2:30am!! If you need a quick slice of pizza go here!

Overly greasy, chaotic & loud. Perfect for after the late night drinking binge and want pizza. Their tip jar is filled with water. Awesome. I don't like their "dollar tree" napkins. They don't do any good with the 4 litters of oil dripping from your hands. Wierd story: I was outside finding a place to eat when all of a sudden I heard multiple paintball shots fired by a passing car. A friend and I ducked. Everyone had a wtf face. Weirdos and their compressed air.

Want something fast, greasy, and has a NY style kinda zing to it? Well that's Pieces pizza! Pieces is the closest New Yorker pizza parlor that i've ever been to in Sac. I enjoy it every time, i go. My favorites are the meat lover combos and the pesto. They also have an assortment of beers and their garlic sticks is really good. Service can sometimes mean waiting for the pizza to be cooked and pricing is decent. Their portions are very generous and it is very filling as well.

Love the "regulars" atmosphere. This was a late night stop off on the walk home. A mid Saturday afternonoon snack. A 4 am drunk dial for pizza. And they have been known to be open at 4am. The staff is friendly and real diverse. Love love the kindergarten teacher that works there. Good pizza. Good beer always on tap! They even have pie. I mean dessert pie! When you become a regular you get a card to mark the amount of slices you buy. Once you reach ten you get a free slice! The twisty bread sticks are the best thing there. Filled with cheese and garlic. Only bummer- The smelly bums that "need" money for "food". When you offer to buy them a slice of pie they get pissed and walk away. Go figure...

Pieces has really heavy, delicious pizza. Being a New Yorker, I appreciate the laid-back environment and no-frills service. The last time I was there, the cook tossed a free slice to a homeless guy and stole my heart.

It's like a picnic indoors. The pizza is great. A little pricey for just a slice but the slices are pretty generous and there's usually a variety to select from. You got to bus your own tables and the seating is pretty low rent, but clean.

Something about this place makes me want to not like it, but it's probably just the vague, barely conscious air that its name invokes from having heard lots of bad things about it many years ago before I had ever actually been there, probably all more urban ledgend than anything else. My conscious brain knows that what we have at Peices (the truncated name by which it is most comonly known) is good pizza at a fair price that is open pretty late at night. I've often heard Pieces described by some as "greasy", but I think "oily" is a better adjective. I don't like olives, and maybe it's just my paranoia of them, or maybe they actually do put small bits of olive on or in almost every kind of pizza. If it's the case, though, they're very small, and it's something that would probably only bother me, as I'm an olive hater. And so far, it hasn't stopped me from eating their food, so it must be alright. You've got decent-sized slices with thin crust, not super saucy, but not the sauce is still definately there. The crust ends are great big pizza bones that are rolled around an inside of cheese. A nice fatty after-snack for when you're done eating the "meat" of the slice. Service is sometimes kinda slow and even when they're smiling at you, there've been times that I've perceived their expressions as ones belonging to people who seem to be thinking "yeah, I'm kinda doing my own thing, and getting you your pizza is in there somewhere" but I've also seen the staff bust their asses taking and shelling out orders to large crowds. Mabye a little nonchalant, but not oblivious or uppity. I don't get why the tip jar is full of water, somebody explain that to me. Is that to deter tip theft? The interior is nothing fancy at all, other than that there's some home-made-ish murals on the wall, but it's not abismal, mostly just functional/practical, and the pizza is good. One of the last standing bastions of being open after midnight, and cheap. It might actually cost more than what it ought to, but most of their single slices aren't too far out of the neighborhood of a five-spot.

It's shitty and delicious! Okay. I admit that this is no high-end culinary materpiece place. They make pizza. They make big ass slices, and one damned piece is a meal. (At $4) I wouldn't bother trying anything else but the pesto... the lovely, lovely pesto. Their pesto is what they do the very, very best. Their pesto is why I'm having a hard time making a commitment to veganism. Their pesto is something I can NEVER pass up when I'm in Sac. They have the perfect hours for us night-owl types, but they get SLAMMED at bar-thirty, so watch out for that. The workers are sweet as hell, always friendly and ready to make small talk while they create your slice. They even have a "slice card"... i think for the lunchtime folks. There ain't nothin better than a slice of pesto after a long night o drinkin. Oh, and they serve beer. Yeah!

I was drunk when I went here and it was crowded so I don't know how well of a review i'll be able to write, but here goes anyways... it was a Saturday night and after 3 bars and several drinks my friends and I stumbled into this place with the drunk munchies. The pizza was really good and the slices were big. I guess for $4 a slice they should be. It was crowded, but we still got a table and hey it was Saturday night! Would go back for more drunk munchies, but should probably try it sober.

Pieces is kind of like an instant rehab. Step 1, Use the restroom and wipe of all the mascara thats run down your face from dancing or being rowdy or whatever. Step 2, Look around at all the writing on the walls and see that at one point in time someone was more messed up than you gave you written evidence. We're all in this together. Step 3 Take one step at a time through the hall where you are greeted with about 25 people wearing tight pants and leotards. They are your recovery team. Step 4 Order and be greeted with people who deal with people like you everyday of their life. They are your mentors Step 5 they take your wadded up 5 dollar bill you stuffed into the depths of your only pocket and exchange it with the biggest , and greasiest slice of heaven. Step 6 Graduation. It will satisfy your hunger, and make the next day bearable.

I think this is like the only 'slicery' in Sac, because I've been all up, down, and around this bad boy and have not found another. They ONLY take cash, no cards at all. Pizza is huge and really good but it is pricier than it should be I mean this is not the Bay we're talking about people, it's SAC. The flippin place is run by hippies! Not yuppies! I don't get it personally but whatevs, if I'm really fiendin just one slice I come here other than that I'll grab a papa murphys cuz one piece here is like $5 and it's not the best I've ever had so I don't really get that pricing either.

A midtown icon and for good reason. It has great pizza and is perfect for those late nights after the bar closes, a quick lunch, or just a filling, no-hassle dinner after a long day. My favorite is the pesto pizza with sun-dried tomato and feta. The slices are more than generous with one piece being just enough to fill the average person up. If you even have the slightest interest in pizza (or good food) you must check Pieces out.

I love it. Clearly a locally owned business, and as someone else said before me "Pesto, feta, and sun dried tomatoes, enough said" Excellent pizza creation. I know, I know...easy target, right? Being a dude that's always for a fair fight, I will NOT mention: - drum circles - price - sex-on-the-counter urban legends - shelf life of day olds Actually, this place has gotten better. For a while there, it was pretty shit. Many disagree with me and say it is still shit, but they are shit. Avoid this place on Saturday nights...I always have a near-Fajitagate moment with sundry members of the Sac State Athletic Department. The workers are very nice. Todd Kelly is ALWAYS here...like Fonzie in the Arnold's bathroom! I always want to tell him that joke. DAAAAAY OLD....DAAAAAY OLD....

The ambiance is that there is no ambiance - mishmash pastiche, fluorescent tube lighting, outdoor furniture inside, and what-not. Straight up pie by the slice. Warmed in the oven with chopped garlic (if it so pleases you). It has the vampiric allure of the wee wee hours (open 'til 2:30 am on Fries and Sats) proffering fodder to the sidewalk sale barroom rejects (been there, done that). Usually the gig is run solo - employees playing the ironman game; seek out lull times or suck-it-up, wait, and sympathize with small biz wage slavery. Everything is pretty much customizable. Beer is ice cold (a must).

Best little pizza-by-the-slice place in midtown. Delicious, nutritious and they buy all their toppings from local Sacramento/San Joaquin Valley farmers (thus the slightly higher prices). And as an added bonus for former WaMu customers--since they only accept cash-- there is a Chase bank directly across the street.

Pieces is alright. I'm not a drinker nor am I up late all that often, so I can say it's worth grabbing a slice there even without one of these excuses. I only have a couple of complaints. 1. If they don't want to carry a cheeseless pizza that's fine. Most "by the slice" places don't. But why carry it once in a blue moon? It seems an odd choice to make something non-dairy available if you happen to be lucky enough to come by when they have it. Heck even if they just put some rhyme or reason into it. Like, bake one no cheese pie on Friday night or soemthing, so we'd know. 2. I used to have to avoid Java City on 18th because every poet without a job in town would hang out there and I didn't want to have to bother with trying to get away from people who didn't know how to take social cues intended to alert them to the fact that I just wanted to get my coffee and go. Now those people seem to hang out at Weather Stone and Pieces. Leave me alone poets. I just want a slice of pizza! The slices are really big, enough that it makes the price totally worthwhile. It's nice to sit on 21st and people watch. And half of the employees are really nice. The other half seem like they REALLY don't want to be awake. OH, and I read a great kids book there with folks stories from all over the planet.

Whose always there for you at 2am on a drunken Saturday night long after Round Tables has closed? Pieces, baby! I've known several of the employees and trust me, they know to how to use soap and water before preparing food. There are as many hipSTERS as HipPIES hanging out at Pieces, which is one reason I like this place. It's like a microcosm of midtown - and on a late Saturday night, everyone seems to end up there. If you want to avoid the crowds just avoid the weekend late nights. Yes, the pizza is greasy. But there's really no other food like it in Sac. They have good beers and cider, too. Three cheers for Pieces!

If you want the best cheesy (or vegan no cheesy) perfect huge slice this is it! I love pieces for more reasons than i can list, the place is always chill, the staff is amazing and fast! I love the graffitti bathrooms. They are open late on the weekend and serve up the best slice of pizza that $5 can buy that late! If you havent been here you should go right now!

I used to hit this place on my way home from work, because, at the time, midtown had no real slice shops. Once I weaved my way through the drum circle and the love-in, I made my way into the store where there was yet another funky hippie ready to take my order. There was a dog behind the counter which she was probably petting before I came in. Little half-clothed love children with dirty hands and faces were running around the store causing a ruckus. The pizza was decent enough, but a little high priced and the commune atmosphere really turned me off.

The best pizza crust I've ever had.

Fun place for a bite and to sit and talk. They open late and the staff is really friendly. Sitting outside is the best place to people watch, especially on a Friday night. I thought the prices were a little high ($6.25 for a combo slice) but it's a big piece. I did get a funny stomach ache after eating the pesto pepperoni but I'd still go back. It's a fun atmosphere and a great spot to be downtown.

  • Katie W.

I am thoroughly addicted to their pesto pizza... be sure to ask for extra garlic on top! You can also check to see if they have day old pesto pizza which helps with the price and still tastes as good!

  • Wes Y.

This is a very down to earth pizza place. I had a big slice of pesto pizza and it was good, but it might have tasted better because I was walking for awhile and I was really hungry. The pizza would probably taste better if you're stoned. Yeah...

  • Pippi L.

This is where you get fresh pizza by the slice when you have been out drinking and dancing all night. It's not "brilliant" pizza, but it is decent and for a by-the-slice place, they have a good assortment. Gets a 4 for me for just being open nice and late.

pizza, beer, late night. does it get any better than this?

  • Brian S.

I have to agree that the customer service here usually sucks and there can be "hippies" hanging out right outside the door but the pizza is awesome. Just try to ignore whoever it is that takes your order and enjoy the reason your there, the food! Also, I recommend trying the lemonade but bring cash for the bill because they don't take credit.

  • Nicole w.

This is a great trashy looking pizza joint. You would never know to go here unless someone recommended it to you. My favorite pizza is the pesto. The crust is really delicious. I once ordered pepperoni and regretted it. I really didn't care for it at all. Stick to the pesto! Also, they only take CASH.

An awesome hole-n-the-wall, type pizza joint! I'm going after this post =) Pros: - love the laid back setting..large window that brings lightening, outside seating - huge slice of pizza: can't go wrong with cheese and pepperoni, artichoke veggie pizza is the best, sun dried tomato I enjoy a lot, hawaiian, pesto pesto pesto! - CRUST..gotta love the crust! - pesto sticks I drool for - unlimited self-serve chili peppers and Parmesan cheese! - I like the workers there..they are so mellow and cool - Vegan eaters should check out this place - 3 blocks from the gay district =) Cons: - lines get long during the weekends during late nights - takes cash only (Wamu across the street) - cold inside - I don't like their dessert choices..typical brownies and chocolate cake - street parking Must go to in Sacramento!

Good pizza. Taste like they use quality ingredients but way overpriced. 6.50 for a slice??

    (4)
  • C W.

So amazing. The pesto is phenomenal! Love that they stay open late on the weekends, because there are definitely many times where I'm babysitting my drunken roommates and they need food. The only downfall: cash only :( which is the main reason I don't go there more often.

Pieces Pizza is so good! I love the pesto pizza and I always add artichokes to it. I think the prices are fair and the employees have never struck me in a negative way. They serve good beer and cider! OH, and for when I am craving it...GRAPE soda. They have the best tip jar ever..it is filled with water so you cant steal their tips so easily. The ambiance of Pieces is so awesome...while you wait for your pizza there are tons of fliers to look at and I can always find a cool person to chat up in line. The bathroom provides many hours or interesting reads and finds...I just would never spend THAT much time in any public restroom...but to each their own

If it's late, you're downtown, and you're hungry, you need to hit up Pieces for a slice. Everything is delicious, and fairly priced. It's around 5 or 6 bucks for a slice, but the pieces are so huge and delicious that even though you would love to eat more, you probably couldn't without developing a case of Type 2 Diabetes and having to cut off your big toe. The food is deliciously greasy-- the way a good piece of pizza should be. You can't go wrong with a plain piece of pesto. The neon green, goo puddles along the craters of fresh, melted cheese and warm, crunchy crust. They also have a great selection of bottled beer and draught, or ice-cold Shasta if you're not about that life. The people that work there are very personable, unless you are holding up the line. The place is always packed in the middle of the night, and if you're lucky you might get a performance from the variety of musical vagrants that seem to take up residence in that area. So if you're tryna get a slice, roll over to Pieces. All the cool kids are doing it.

If you are looking for that late night grease fix to aid in soaking up all the booze you drank, this might be the place you are looking for. With all the "hustle bustle" I thought that this might be fantastic, but I am sort of neutral. The Pesto slice, lacked Pesto... The mushroom and olive was pretty good, but it needed a little cholula. The one thing that was utterly shocking, was the heavy security. SECURITY? At a pizza joint? Now I've seen everything! LOL! Okay, Okay, I know it's in Midtown and there might have been some altercations with drunks, but 3-4 security in black uniforms with gloves? COME ON PEOPLE! I sat there with my group of friends talking about the way they were walking around trying to look hard. It was as though we were at some strip joint rather than a pizza place. I was waiting for the "Dont touch the pizza, the pizza can touch you, but you can't touch the pizza". That was worth the price of admission, let me tell ya!

  • chris a.

After a night of fun went in and ordered a whole pizza. Was told that they only sold by the slice, so I paid for each slice individually and also tipped $3.00. I waited about 30 minutes and asked the girl at the register what was going on, she responded that the pizza would be out shortly. Waited another 15 minutes and never got my pizza so I asked for a refund and didn't even care to ask for the tip. It would have been understandable if I didn't see them serving everyone else who was in line behind us the same type of pizza we ordered (pepperoni). I felt like the people behind the counter were too busy trying to mingle with their friends and didn't actually care to serve the customer.

This is my favorite pizza by the slice that I have tried in Sacramento. The crust when the pizza is re-heated/finish cooked takes on a unique crispy chewy texture. I ask them to leave the slice in longer, to let it crisp up nicely, as the way they normally cook the slices isn't crispy enough for me. I usually will order the mushroom/olive pizza with complimentary fresh garlic. This runs about $3.75 if memory serves me and the toppings are generously applied. They also may have "fat ducks", slices that have sat around for a while but are still good for about $2. A large selection of hot sauces is available for folks who love to have their spicy taste receptors stimulated. They have a small, but high quality selection of draft beers, running from Arrogant Bastard Ale, to Obsidian Stout, which can change as the kegs run out. You never know what they might have. They have a lot of employees that have been there for a long time (similar to Willie's) and I have always received friendly, efficient service. There's a lot to like about Pieces, and I do. Open late, Pieces is a great place to satisfy those late night munchies.

  • Helena W.

If I was still living downtown I'd be so fat because of this place. As usual I got a slice of the pesto pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and feta. After I scarfed down every last morsel I decided to get another slice of pizza, this time just cheese. I like Pieces because they put tons of cheese, just the right amount of sauce, and the crust is my favorite here. Thank you Pieces for always satisfying my pizza cravings!

  • D M.

My god this place is expensive (5 bux a slice). but like a drug, I am willing to shell out the ridiculous amount of cash necessary to buy the stuff. Just like any dealer, the workers here take CASH only... BEST dough I've ever had, crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside...and i'm always sad when it's over. The regular slices are good...but the BEST ones are the pesto slices. Trust me....I'm not a huge pesto person, and they are delectable. Unfortunately, the garlic breath gives you away every time...they don't skimp on that stuff (and its a free add on) and everyone is going to be upset that you're sharing the breath but not the slice.

    (4)
  • Drew U.

I was really hungry coming to Pieces Pizza, and only bought one slice of pizza because I couldn't afford a second slice. Good thing I only bought 1 slice since I found myself full after finishing the slice. They didn't skimp on the cheese and the crust was one of the better pizza crust I've had. I'll be back soon.

  • Austin R.

Pieces is delicious. I'm really surprised that there exist any negative reviews on here. The pizza can be a little greasy, but let's be honest. It's pizza. Their pesto pizza and pesto sticks are amazing. Great place to pick up a late night slice.

  • Reuben D.

Maybe it was the slice of pizza or maybe i was expecting too much. But i don't beleive Pieces deserves the hype. They hype of a good slice of pizza brought me to Pieces when i had some time to kill waiting for my friend to return home. The place reminds me of most pizza places now a days. They are rather hipster like ambiance with indie rock playing and a young (or young looking) man or woman behind the counter with tatoos and peircings baking it up. Which is fine by me. As often the case in California, these pizza places are rather tasty. But alas, Pieces was not. First, the slice is rather expensive. For $5, you get a decently large slice though one not deserving the $5 price tag. Second, i am a big fan of thin crispy flaky crusts. This crust was thin and was crispy but not in the appropriate way. It was crispy more in that it was burnt on the bottom and was not flaky in the slightest. Also, the pizza seemed to lack sauce. I am a big advocate of quality pizza sauce. It can make a break a pizza and the lack of sauce definately didnt help the pizza. But what truly broke this pizza experience for me was the crust. The end crust that some people love, i did not care for at all. The method of rolling out the pizza dough seems to involve a final rolling of the edge of the pizza after you topped it. When you bite in, you can see the roll of the dough. But my slice was very raw in the middle. Not cool. I'd say bail on this place and visit Vito's Pizza on 16th & O.

Delicious pizza. Personally, It's a bit pricey for a slice of pizza.

    (3)
  • Amy Q.

Great pizza by the slice! I mean the crust itself is good on it's own. I wasn't even hungry and my friend told me to take just one bite and it blew my mind. A crust that's rolled with cheese and sauce and has the crisp and chew of a fluffy yeast bread. I was sober at 2 am in the morning an this place was filled with all sorts of people not just clubby types. I like the mushroom pesto! Nice free articles and books on the side of the store if you like to read local articles.

Had to take away all my stars from Slices since I no longer arrive during the drunken hours. The pizzas are dry/stale, overprices, and lacking in flavor. The staff are decidedly grungy and slow. The establishment is in disrepair and in desperate need of a little TLC.

    (1)
  • Sonia S.

Best pizza in Sac. Sooooooo addicting. I LOVE both their pesto and their tomato sauces. Their crust is nice and soft with the sauce rolled into it. Don't let the run-down decor fool you. The pizza is amazing. After eating some of that crap they call pizza at Luigi's tonight (colored cardboard -yeah I'm pissed at them for serving pizza that bad - we deserve better in Sacramento!), I can't wait for my slice of yum from Pieces. Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amanda R.

My favorite pizza place in Sacramento. The staff is always friendly and the pizza is always great. I love that I can get garlic on my pizza! I wish they would accept credit/ debit tho. (I know that Chase/ WaMu is across the street but I don't like being charged $2.00 to take money out). Good job, Pieces!

  • Madeleine D.

I love Pieces. I think a big deal of Pieces being rated so highly for me is because of the great memories I've had there. Bottom line for me is that it's good piece, cheap, and fun to go to. I remember the first time I ever went to Pieces and went to drop a tip in the big jar they have... and I didn't want the extra change to make a lot of noise [no, I didn't just tip change]. So I stuck my hand in the jar and found my hand dunked in water. Haha. I was apparently not paying attention. But yeah, their tip jar is filled with water so if you do try to put your hand in it, your arm gets soaked. Funny. Anyway, I just really like this place, and I'm craving it now just thinking about it. Big, cheap slices of pizza? Yum yum yum.

  • Albert W.

I didn't like it that much. It's true.. large slice, bread stick like crust, very thin on the bottom and lots of topping. It just wasn't that good. Reminded me of elementary school pizza or Sbarro with better quality "stuff". I'd rather go to other places in town like Giovanni's Pizzeria. Oh yeah the pesto pizza with sun-dried tomato and feta was the best of the 3 slices I had by far.

    (3)
  • Arthur C.

-A little pricey for pizza, but well worth it. -Cash only and everything is priced by the slice. -Down to earth employees in a laid back environment. -Best pesto feta with sun-dried tomatoes (and free fresh garlic) that I've ever had. I have been to Piece

Go get the pesto slice when you want some comforting cheesy goodness. We love many of their slices and have been back several times.

  • Jennifer F.

Um yum!! If you haven't had a piece of their pizza your missing out. It's delicious not to mention that I'm a fan of garlic they offer it to you to top your pizza. Yes bad for a date but oh so delicious for the tummy. It's a unique little place I love the pesto pizza. Check it out ASAP if your craving a good slice it's quick and easy not to mention a short cab ride from where your at downtown late at night. The first time I went was at 2am in the morning. It was still delicious during the day.

    (5)
  • Leopard S.

Great place for pizza by the slice. I didn't want anything overtly greasy, so I opted for the mushroom olive with pesto. It was delicious, and not overtly greasy-LOVED the crust. We split a piece of their chocolate cake-very rich & sinful. Reasonably priced pizza, drinks and dessert. Cash only!

Delicious pizza. Pesto, meat, etc... This spot has their own style of pizza and the pieces are huge. NO ATM though. This is the location to go with all your pals to eat the drunk out of your system.

  • Shana M.

Loved the pizza, the two guys working there when I came by were great, the place looks cool, but the location itself had a couple of creepy people outside. Not their fault, but it did dampen the spirits a little. But I loved the pizza and will definitely come again!

  • K T.

Ok so...... I have never been a huge pizza lover. Like it's never been something I would suggest or go out of my way for.... I KNOW SHOCKER SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T LIKE PIZZA but anyways all that changed after Pieces!!! I loveeeeee the pesto with garlic and feta cheese. OMG SO GOOD. The crust is amazingly crunchy but soft and I love how they put cheese in the crust! One slice is huge so one is definitely enough for me. I love that they're open late on weekends but they only take cash and your bound to come across some "interesting" people at 2 am. Nothing I can't handle for a majorly good piece of pizza!

    (4)

This place is ok. It's not bad, but it's not really good either. It's a good place to go after going out, but not if you're really hungry.

  • Diana D.

This place may be magnet with hobos and pretty dirty for a food establishment but their pizza is better than most in town. The first time I was here I guess I ate my pizza wrong. I'm a pretty slow eater and my crust got cold, big mistake. I missed out on its glorious cheesy and saucy goodness. The next time I came here I ordered the pesto, which is really tasty with a good amount of toppings. I immediately went for the "golden crust" and realised what I was missing. I really can't believe people think this place is THAT terrible. Yeah, five bucks for a slice kind of sucks but what can you do when there are only two by the slice joints in sac? This place doesn't take ATM so be sure to bring cash.

We came here after the Music Soulchild concert. We were starving, and since it was almost midnight, our dining choices were pretty limited. Someone suggested Pieces, and although I like Pieces, just coming back from a trip to New York and having ate New York pizza, I was a bit hesitant. Well, either I was totally starving, or that was some really damn good pizza that could rival any slice from the Big Apple! I had the meat combo (pepperoni, sausage, and salami). It was delicious, and the thin crust was perfectly crispy on the bottom. The right amount of sauce and cheese. Heated up and served in a timely manner. Good selection of condiments. Nice staff. My only complaint was the price-$5 per slice. I remember the last time I ate here, it was $5 for your slice AND your soda. I blame Bush.

  • Nicky M.

As I am chewing on a slice of meat lovers asking and asking my friend for a review on the veggie, I am already thinking in my head that this place is a 2 star kind of joint and not overly pleased with my selection for the night...then I get down to the crust! The crust of their pizza saved the whole experience. It appeared to be rolled up with sauce and cheese and was oh so delicious. Little crisp on the outside and chewy gooey melty saucy on the inside! Had it not been for the crust, this review would have been written solely on expensive slices of pizza and being served a pesto stick that could have used a few more minutes in the oven. Although I greatly appreciate the selection of hot sauces...I can not appreciate the signs asking you to leave the cheese and peppers at the front table or the don't be a napkin pig. I guess that's how they roll.

This place is a midtown classic. Delicious pizza with awesome roll over crust. Always full of weird, semi-dirty people but after a night of drinking, there is absolutely nothing better than grabbing a slice here before you drag your butt home.

Great pizza for a great price. If you choose a piece made earlier in the day it's only two bucks, and still delicious!

Okay pizza. The quality is inconsistent. The crust is to die for when its fully cooked. Fresh toppings. Minuses - Inconsistent quality. The crust can be very doughy if its not cooked all the way. Its a little dirty and there is a methadone clinic on the same corner.

if your looking to fill your pizzzzza craving you must gobble down to this joint!!! By far I think this is the best pizza place in sacramento. They have late hours and coool vibes....not to mention free condoms at the community flyer counter! Trust me....its GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! Oh and the crust...is booooomb! Its lined with garlic and olive oil and sometimes loooots of chesse!

    (5)
  • Mona M.

I would have to agree with everyone...the pesto, feta and sun-dried tomato pizza here is divine. Literally one of the best slices of pizza I have ever had. Also, they put the cheese on the pizza and then roll the crust, so there is gooie cheese in every bite of crust. Deelish! The people that work here are all really friendly. I am convinced that every customer that was in line with us was stoned...I was sure there had to be a cannabis club next door but that turned out to not be the case. Maybe people just really crave sun-dried tomatoes when they are stoned? Who knows.... I was a little disappointed by the prices. $5 a slice? It is a bit steep for the amount of pizza they give you, especially because slices at other pizza by the slice places in Sacramento are larger. Overall though, great pizza, friendly employees!

Last meal before my cleanse... I really wanted a slice of pizza. My roomate reccomended Pieces Pizza by the Slice. YuMMMMMMy!! Service was good. The veggie with pesto...yummmmmy! Pesto cheesy crust hit the spot

Reminds me of a New York style pizzeria. The food is always fresh, staff is awesome and pizza is addicting. Great place to go for a quick lunch or a late night pizza. I either get the pepperoni if I'm missing New York or do the mushroom/pesto for my "California" pizza fix! This place only takes cash, but don't worry, there's a bank with an ATM across the street!

Lastime and i had a slice from Pieces pizza was about 3 years ago and i still cant get it outta my head. Its probably the best pizza I've ever had. I live in Southern California so I'm not readily accessible to this place but I always think about this place. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it after that first bite. Definately goin back when I go visit Sacramento.Love that pesto pizza with garlic!

Finding myself in Sacramento I opt for something fast and easy, filling yet good. What other than pizza to fill that order? From the reviews I saw Pieces was both highly/most rated and nearby. Entering Pieces is like entering a cute artistic painting as the walls were painted with countryside hills. There was plenty of seating but only one other customer. I ordered the Pepperoni pizza to satisfy the constant carnivore in me. Yes simple and oh so typical. However, they give you the option of having fresh garlic sprinkled on top before heating it up. That was a definite plus. The crust is stuffed with cheese and the texture of the dough was soft yet the taste of the crust, while herbed, was average - nothing extraordinary. The taste of the pizza overall was good but not impressive and a bit on the greasy side. I wish I would've ordered the recommended Pesto, feta & sundried tomatoes. Perhaps I would've given this place a 4 star. Nevertheless, I didn't and I only have the Pepperoni to base my review on. Now kids... the lesson learned from this experience is that if it ain't broke don't throw that brick at it.

What a visit to Sac town. After floating the river, then hitting up a few Midtown bars, I was ready to wrap up my Saturday in Sac town AND totally hungry. Lo, to which late night eatery does my Sacramento host carry me? Why Pieces, of course! The line was 12 people long, but well worth the wait. As we inched our way closer to the counter, I caught glimpses of the myriad pies whose savory aromas piqued my appetite to an even higher intensity. There they were-pesto, pesto with the works, cheese, veggie and my favorite oldie-but-goodie: pepperoni. Behind the pies I saw the pizzeria mistress crafting future pizzas with as much skill and care as Michaelangelo carved David. She deftly tossed perilously thin dough circles into the air, then, after safely laying them out on trays, she ladled thick layers of pesto and tomato sauce on top. She crowned the glorious rounds with mounds and mounds of mozzarella-more cheese than either my friend or I had ever seen grace a pizza. The pinnacle of pizza preparation was the fold-over crust (think stuffed-crust pizzas without the stuffing). Though I desperately desired two slices, my friend talked me down to a single piece. He knew the filling power of Pieces pieces. Too long have I settled for the partial-fulfillment from other thin-crust pizza purveyors. The moment arrived--and so did we--at the cash register. He got a loaded pesto, I a slice of pepperoni, fresh from the oven. It was as good as I thought it would be and more. Great cheese to sauce ratio and though it was a thin crust pizza, it had substance and structure-didn't flop underneath its own mass like so many other thin-crust pizza slices I've encountered before. The crust was a quaint and new experience. The fold-over crust was larger than basic thin crusts, but with the hollow space, it wasn't as doughy and overwhelming as thick-crust pizzas occasionally can be. Bonus that it's open until 3 AM. Too bad that at that hour most people are too drunk to appreciate the full range of flavor on their palates. So do yourself a favor and be sure to grab a piece of Pieces when your blood alcohol content is below the legal limit.

Some of these people are so damn uppity. LoL I've honestly never had better pizza than this place. Their pesto pepperoni is freaking amazing, though even a slice of cheese pizza here is great, especially if you get it with fresh garlic crushed all over it. The major difference in the pizza at Pieces is that you don't see people tossing away their crusts. Hell I come to this place BECAUSE of the doughy crust; it's delicious as opposed to being the "necessary evil" at most other pizza shops. Regarding cleanliness - I'm often here at 2AM, but I am even more often at Pieces around noon for lunch. I see the staff wash their hands rather frequently, and I'd be willing to bet that they wash their hands FAR more frequently than the chodes making your pizza at Round Table, you just don't see the guys at Round Table as much. I never thought I'd find myself defending hippies, but everyone working in this shop is a genuinely nice person, so quit the hating just because they don't like to rock the cheesy ass knock-off Dior sunglasses and blingy jewelry you're into.

The pizza here is very good. Customer service is not great, they are very abrupt or overtly friendly, but it's always slammed and we are normally there after midnight. The place is not really that clean, but better then it has been in a while.

  • Jeff H.

The best pizza in Sacramento! I go every time I'm back in SACtown. All of the different slices available are great and the beers they have complement the meal perfectly! If you are out late at night, this is the place to people watch, find some new friends or old ones and just chill out.

Thoughts I had while eating my Hawaiian slice at 1am: -Great crust, thin, flavorful, yummy. -Horrible everything else, which for most pizza is about average. -I really don't want to see the health report for this place. -Hey, tribal drum guy, can you perhaps find a less cliched way to show the world that you've taken the road less traveled? -I'm impressed by the people who can ride their cruisers while holding their slices to go. -I can only imagine that eating at Pieces when sober is like seeing a nightclub when all the lights are turned on--an activity best left to the strong in spirit, and mighty in gastrointestinal constitution.

Pieces pizza is the perfect place to go if your crazing amazing pizza. the restaurant has a nice feel to it but i don't tend to eat there unless its outside because there seating is just so so.. the pizza is pretty pricey but the size of the slices make up for it. All of friends rave over the pesto pizza, me being vegan and all i just go for there amazing vegan pizza (must be pre-ordered). and the options seem endless when it comes to ordering it because it seems like they have every topping known to man. But when ordering any of these pizza's i do suggest ordering it crispy because if you don't there dough tends to be pretty doughy so a fork and knife would be a necessity. Another pro to this pizza place is the fresh garlic option which is a perfect touch to the vegan pizza and i can imagine all the others as well. Once they slide the amazing golden brown pizza out of the oven you get to witness and consume a masterpiece. Once the pizza makes it to your mouth you are ready for the best part. as your biting your way into the amazing body of the pizza and tasting the delicious flavor your getting that much closer to the crust. this crust is hands down the best THICK AND STUFFED crust i have ever tasted. It leaves you wanting to eat another slice just to get to the crust again! Hope you all enjoy this place but don forget to bring cash or you wont be able to or at least until you make it back from chase bank right across the street to pick some up.

Are we really judging the way the people who serve you look? Anyway, my review won't be in any way affected by the way they want to appear because all I care about is the service which was friendly. I have tasted better pies and theirs was a-ok. Nothing else was open the Sunday that me and friends went there and we left satisfied. Not bad, not horrible and not great... it was eh. I had the pesto and I added mushrooms, olives and sausages to my pie. I also ordered a pesto stick and a bottle of apple juice. It added up to 10 bucks which was okay because I had left-overs so I saved it for later. The slice was pretty big. I don't think I'll be back because I know there are better places is Sacramento.

Squares beware! You won't like this place. It's earthy and has a mellow vibe. The Pizza is pretty dang good and they do not use animal rennet in their cheese, but the ranch has gelatin, so it is not vegetarian. They serve beer and cider and have a variety of sodas, juices and waters. The outdoor seating is great for people watching. They stay open late and that is a plus! The customer service is good, the people that work there seem to love their jobs. They will go the extra mile and reheat your pizza anyway you want it, warm, hot or extra crispy. They will even add extra garlic before it goes back in the oven if you ask. Very kid friendly as well. The only bad thing is the parking, it can be difficult. Seriously, if you are afraid of hip kids, hippies, stoners, punks and an eclectic downtown crowd. DO NOT GO HERE! or at least get your pizza to go, they are afraid of you too.

Maybe I just not drunk or stoned enough to fully appreciate this place. As I was eating this pizza I'm pretty sure I could feel my digestive tract sending out an SOS call. My body felt horrible after eating here. It's just not going to go on my pizza top 5. I will say that the rumors are true, I am a pizza crust snob. The pizza's crust wasn't my style, too doughy on the inside, it reminded me of that horrible creation one of the chain places had where they stuffed the pizza crust. (wtf?! don't mess with my pizza crust my sticking some of your cheap crappy cheese in it) That being said, they get 1 star because the guy who made my pizza and rang me up was really really nice. And, they offer to put garlic on top (1/2 star) and they have bins for recycling (1/2 star) So overall 2 stars. Oh and as a note, CASH ONLY.

Awesome hole in the wall pizza! Best crust in Sac. Garlic and pesto on everything please! Cash only isn't so bad. Totally worth the fee at Chase when it's 2 am and you might die of alcohol poisoning unless you consume massive amounts of (delicious) carbs asap or you're so hungover that asking for extra grease seems like an exceptional idea. The staff and the patrons tend to be pretty laid back. I'd definitely give it five stars, but there have been some consistency issues for me over the past year or so. The crust, which is the best part of a Pieces' slice, isn't always as stuffed as it has been in past years. I will gladly continue to do quality inspections.

Not only is the pesto pizza to die for but I love the "make yourself a sammy, kick up your feet" kinda vibe at this place. When I am here I feel like all of my cares have flown out the window. The boys behind the counter are pretty cute too. I'd like a slice of one of them next time!!

5 dollars a slice is steep on the food radar, one such as myself could crunch three slices at any good time of the day. The pizza is just short of great, the style in which the crust is so perfectly folded over and filled with scrumptious goodies gives Pieces it's "unique" pizza quality. Nuff said.

This review is long over due.. I was the biggest Pieces fan ever. Being that I love in SF, I made sure I went there EVERY TIME I was in Sacramento. It changes every time I go, at this point I will never return. They now have sucky Ranch, which is always my pizza dip. The past couple times I have gone there is some woman working who has obviously experimented with a LOT of drugs. I wouldn't care accept for she is always in a bitchy mood, and acts like customers are there to bug her. Oh well, on to the next pizza spot.

Loved the cheese pizza, crust was great! The only thing I did not like is that they accepted cash only. Was not aware of that, but overall really good pizza you get a HUGE piece for the amount you pay!

This place has character. Character, and really good freaking pizza. I really, really miss Pieces. I don't know what's wrong with the 1-star guy who wrote a review, but I think he's just overly picky and likes his stucco-clad chain establishments. My friend Tiffany thinks Pieces is disgusting and hates the taste of the pizza for one reason or another - she said it tastes like something gross that's very distinctive, but I can't remember what that is right now.....but mind you, Tiffany is a picky eater. My friend Ubersheist - who already wrote a review down the line here, really likes this place, and he's slightly more of a picky eater than I am. So, my suggestion (I'm not a very picky eater, I love just about everything that's good) is to go there and dig in. If you love pesto, you will LOVE their pizza, as they have the best pesto pizza on the planet. They always have interesting slices for sale with a combination of good toppings. The best part is, they warm up your slice in the oven so you have to wait a bit but it's worth it. Are you on a diet? Then either don't go here or follow these directions. Yes, it's true, the pizza is oily but if you blot your slice with the napkins they provide, you'll be that much better off. They say don't be a napkin hog, but you're going to need to grab at least 4 of 'em to sufficiently blot your pizza and have one to wipe your hands. I will definitely go back the next time I'm up in Sactown.

Love, love, love their pizza.. The pesto crust is so great, and they have vegan pizza so we can take our vegan friends there. I also like that you can order by the slice and it's open really late... but it is insanely expensive. Our friend that was visiting from SF was appalled by the prices, saying it's cheaper in SF to get pizza. But that's definitely my only complaint.

Tasty pizza. The crust was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The veggie had yellow squash and broccoli in addition to the norm veggie toppings like mushrooms and peppers. My slice was huge too. Although the place seems like it's seen better days, the kitchen looked clean and there wasn't trash piled up on the tables. The clientele as well as the employees were eclectic and the music they played was great. They also serve a good selection of beer (Lagunitas IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale were among them). P.S. Don't forget to bring cash.

Good stuff - Cracker bottom full of yummy choices on top. If you don't see it on the counter just ask to add items to a slice and back in the oven it goes - the final slice is just the way you want it - because you custom ordered your pizza. The pizza slices are huge and the outer crust is rolled up with goodies from the pizza - another little treat from your local midtown pizza parlor. You can even order a vegan! The parlor is hidden next to the Bombay indian restaurant. SEE YOU THERE...

When we first moved to Sacramento, this was one of the only places we knew about to get a late night slice of pizza. When I first walked in, it seemed like a quirky little hippy place. Then I looked a little closer and tasted the pizza. Pieces is the worst alcohol-induced hook-up in town. It was always a tragic state of affairs for the designated driver because there were no booze-colored glasses to make the experience anything other than it was. The pizza is greasy. Not the good, help me sober up greasy that you'll hardly remember the next day. It's the regrettable, oh my god what did I put in my body last night after the tasty alcohol greasy. It's amazing this place is still even around with Vito's and Luigi Slice open.

It's a little pricey, like all pizza-by-the-slice places, but the pizza actually fills you up, unlike other places. My favorite here is the pesto with sundried tomato and feta. So good. Their breadsticks are tasty, too. Everything is real greasy, but that is what kind of makes it Piece's! They do a great vegan pizza if you call in ahead of time, too, which is awesome if you aren't into meat and cheese.

We've been coming here for years, and yes, it was usually after consuming adult beverages. Still, I really enjoy the pesto pizza or the veggie. Went here last night and we took our son for the first time. He loved it, they have rootbeer and pepperoni pizza, he was in heaven. There were coloring books, story books and crayons for him to occupy himself with whilst consuming his massive piece of pizza. The gentleman that took our order asked which piece was for the little guy, and said he wouldn't make it that hot for him. I really appreciate looking out like that, it's the little things I guess. Why it may not be the best pizza I've had, it still gets the job done, late night eats or a quick dinner with the kid.

I dream of the Pesto Pizza from PIeces. I'm actually glad that I don't live in the Sacramento area because I'd seriously be at least 20 pounds heavier if I lived near Pieces. Love the service as well - very warm and friendly.

If you review the glowing five-star praises of Pieces, you will hear plenty of... (a) It's the only place open so late; and (b) It's great for when you're drunk. Okay, so (a) is no longer true. There's now better slices for $2-$2.50 less at Luigi's Slice. And (b), since when are drunk people good judges of food quality?!?! YOU WILL EAT ANYTHING! I do eat at this place every coupla years just to be sure that when I say in a crowd that Fieces (I mean Pieces, sorry) sucks, I can back it up with a fresh experience of an overpriced ($6 for a slice?!) pizza that's been par-baked for that petrified flavor and mouthfeel. The crust is like that Zweibach Toast that they used to give teething babies. I have also seen the homeless get free slices there, but instead of warming my heart, it made me understand why they sell their slices for $6 to the less unfortunate. I'm certainly more generous than average to homeless folks, but when it gets rolled into the bottom line of a $6 slice of pizza for me, I draw the line right there! One time I was at Pieces and was served by a dreadie crustpunk gal with a snot trail below her nose, and I noticed that she was walking around the kitchen barefoot. As she waited for the slice to warm in the oven, I saw the bottom of her right foot, and it was blacker than night. I began to lose my appetite, and the atrocious pizza did the rest. I also noticed then that about half the "customers" in there were crusties just hanging out like it was their loungespace to beat the heat. Now, whenever I walk by the place on the way to Zelda's or Jalapeno's, I count the people sitting at their sidewalk tables and notice how many of them are just taking up space. Does Pieces think that this is a good business plan? By making the place seem like it is bustling with activity, newbie passers-by are invited inside? At any rate, I'd sooner drive all the way to CostCo's snackbar for a slice of pizza. I really mean that.

Pieces is my favorite spot, exspecially for late night grub. Im not a pizza person at all but it has taken my heart! Best crust around! And the price is amazing.

Pieces is a perfect little dive. They are cash only, and in the past 6 years that i have been going the same people are always behind the counter: dirty, punky, hippy, friendly faces. (I'm not a real germiphobe so the divey-ness and dirty-ness don't really bother me). The service is great, the pizza is AMAZING!!! The pesto pizza with garlic, sundried tomatoes and feta is my favorite slice to get! I love how they roll the cheese into the crust. I am normally the kind a of person that can eat 3 or 4 slices at a time, but pieces always fills me up with just one perfect slice. They used to offer day old pizza slices for 2 dollars, but i hear the city put a stop too that (way to increase food waste). Pieces is a great place to end your night whether you have been out clubbing at Faces or attending the art walk, Pieces is always open late. :)

Piping hot pizza by the slice till' 3 AM? That's what I'm talkin' about. TRY: Pesto slice w/ sun dried tomatoes. STEER CLEAR: of the 'ducks' (older slices un-purchased from previous pies). I'm always a little weary of their food safety protocol, which appears to be limited to 'showing up with clothes on' and 'braid your dreads'. Good thing their service is great, and their always focused on the food, even when the line is out the door at 2:45. A large assortment of seasonings and hot sauces to enjoy with your slice make this a great place to stop after a sloshed or sober night. I once tried to show up when they opened, but after waiting 15 minutes, I figured it wasn't happening. Oh well.

Pieces is real. Pieces caters to the drunk, high and the crazy. equally. Pieces doesn't care about your weight problem. Pieces likes your money and sometimes they'll hook you up with ranch. You have time for pieces, and if you don't thats cool too. Yes, there is something in the crust, no its not narcotic. Pieces has bread sticks if you hurry. Pieces is not a sin.

I'm not saying Pieces is the nicest looking or cleanest place to eat, but the pizza tastes great, & they have fresh garlic. If you want real silverware, don't eat here. If you actually give a crap if the person making your pizza has tattoos & piercings, don't eat here. If you are bothered by mismatched chairs & tables in the dining area, don't eat here. If you are stupid enough to think that any of these things will affect the taste &/or quality of your actual slice of pizza, you probably shouldn't eat here anyways. Delicious stuffed crust, yummy pesto, lots of vegetarian/vegan toppings, & beer. I personally like a slice with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, & lots of garlic. 4 stars for big, heavily topped slices of stuffed crust pizza. 2 stars for feeling like your in a poorly decorated basement. I will keep eating here every time I crave a great slice.

I enjoyed the pizza from this place. They have lots of choices. The restaurant is kinda hard to find if you're not familiar with the area because it really is a small hole in the wall place, but just look for the chase bank because it is right across the street from the bank.

One of my favorite pizza spots in Sacramento next to Toppingz on K. They serve pizza by the slice. Like everyone else says, the pesto pizza is great. The crust is by far the best part. If you want an extra hefty slice of pizza get the vegetarian and tell them to add meat. They pile on the meat. The tip jar (pitcher full of water for theft deterrent)always makes me laugh. Ambiance is good if you like astro turf and lawn furniture.

If you get there close to 2 or after be prepared for the line out the door.I usually choose from whatever pizza's they already have prepared. The pesto with pepperoni is tasty. The crust is thick and doughy. The service is friendly and chill.Great price for pizza and it hits spot after a night of drinking in downtown Sacramento.

Delicious! This is the best place to meet up with people when you're ready to head out for a night on the town or when you need to sober-up and recap the night's happenings. Try the pesto pizza with roasted garlic on top. And the staff are some of the nicest people I've ever met.
