Classic Cerviche was good. Chicken avocado causas was excellent. Free bread, butter, and chimchurri sauce was a nice touch. A bit pricey so won't visit as often as I would like but worth the asking price. I applaude the entrance of a peruvian restaurant in Roseville. Came here for second time. The Lamb shank was delicious and so was the purple corn drink. There was live music and the restaurant was full.

Excellent. Delicious. Unique food. We are new to the area and looking forward to GOOD food and we found it here! Great prices. Ceviche was fabulous. Antucuchos were amazing (I had chicken and fish), Casusas was delicious. They brought out a custom order of veggies for the kids that was great. We will be back. I highly recommend this. Not sure what happened with other yelpers' experiences but our service was also great.

Great service and food. Staff is very courteous and informative. The food was served in a timely manner and was excellent. Have tried about five different entries and all of them were tasty.

Waste of money. God knows how they have such good reviews. Expensive and tasteless. Please spare urself and don't even try it. For $20 a dish u can do a lot better than spending money here. Ordered Cordero and lomo Saltado BAD!

Wanted to check out a Peruvian restaurant and this one had the best review. Being from San Francisco, we loved this one Peruvian restaurant so we were hoping this would stand up to the expectations. Unfortunately, it didn't. I'm guessing a different kind of Peruvian cuisine? My friend had the loma saltado, I had a version of that with chicken and the hub had the fettuccine loma. They had a Peruvian fresh fruit soda which was really sweet. We also shared the mixed ceviche with calamari fish and shrimp. The entrees where good but I didn't feel like it was unique or special. I could have been eating a Mexican rice plate with grilled chicken and no beans. The ceviche was bad, it was super duper sour. They also don't serve it with chips or baguette slices or anything to scoop the ceviche with. You basically take your spoon and scoop up a little bit of everything, including the juice and your tastebuds will be left with a sour sensation. I thought that was weird. We didn't finish the ceviche because it was so sour. It even irritated my friends' lip. Not good. However service was great, dude was nice. All in all, don't think we would really come back unless we had to. I'd recommend to try it because it's fine just not what I expected. I'm spoiled from my sf Peruvian restaurant.

I'd been curious, and finally stopped in for lunch today. The ambience was better than usual around the area: Real tablecloths, artwork, etc. Unfortunately, I was ignored for the first few minutes, and the place was almost empty. Finally when I was seated, I asked for iced tea, but it wasn't brought until later when the meal was served. I ordered the Jalea de Pescado (fish and chips,) and the fish was excellent: tender and with a good batter, and the tartar sauce was very good as well. Unfortunately, the "fries" (made with a Peruvian potato, I understand) were so full of threads that portions of each fry were like chewing on broomstraws, and they were bland - no sauce - and so large they required cutting up. Also unfortunately, everything on the plate was the same texture and the same color - beige. The fish did have some onions and tomato shreds, but not enough to really flavor the fish or make a difference. The plate could have used some greens or other color on the plate (there was one small romaine leaf.) An oddity: The iced tea is served in extremely tall glasses that hold very little tea. With the extra long straw, I had to lift the glass up, then far down below the edge of the table to drink out of the ultra-long straw, then way up again. After doing this a few times, I asked for a fresh glass of tea in a water glass, which made a lot more sense. The service was ok (friendly) but not great (nobody checked on me after serving the meal.) And later, when I asked where the ladies room was, the waiter said, "On the other side of the wall" and pointed. But when he saw me walk back there to the left via the bar, and obviously I couldn't find it, he said nothing. Then he pointed to a screen. I saw that I could not get behind the screen, which was also behind potted plants. Finally he told me, "You have to go out by the front door and make a U-turn." Why not say so earlier instead of watching me flounder about? A major clue to this place: It was lunchtime and only about 3 tables were in use. I won't be back. The food just wasn't good enough, the price was too high ($20 with tea and tip for fish and mushy chips) and the music was too weird and too loud.

I must say after losing my cool and going in to talk with the manager Ismael , I definitely feel a sense of relief . Ismael stated that the charge was due to his credit card company not reporting the tips on time , which makes sense. Ismael took ownership of the problem , rectified the situation and made me feel like I was a values client . The food is still fantastic , just hope the 3rd party doesn't make any more mistakes . Will be back !!

Whats not to love here?? I have never been to Peru, but who knows, i just might some day. in the mean time i can enjoy some Peruvian food, decor and music at LaHuaca. the decor is very simple yet very welcoming. Its very clean too. Beautiful wall designs in various colors comfortable seating and wonderful authentic Peruvian music playing.. Our server was very sweet and efficient . We enjoyed her and had a good timie joking around a bit. The food is fantastic. Different . I did not really know what to expect. I had no problem finding Veggie options. Extensive menu for meat eaters as well. It was nice to explore the menu, its not the same ol thing. The portions are generous.,prices reasonable I like to try different types of cusine and this was a first for me. I will defintley be back. Very relaxing atmosphere. I feel like going to The Andes after dinner here. . they also have a good selection of wines and some beers too. they also serve some mixed drinks.

First and last time here. Although the service, location and ambient was great, the food doesn't have the necessary elements to make it a great peruvian place. While the Passion fruit drink was really good, we ordered Jalea to start, an that is when the unpleasant food experience started; the jalea was over batter, and did not have any seasoning. The ceviche, presentation was ok but flavor... like my buddy said taste like "spicy water"... no galic nor lime taste. One of my favorite dishes is the lomo saltado but did not keep up with the expectations, flamed with Pisco, had a dry appearance and was not worth the $20. If this restaurant would like to survive they need to be realistic about what peruvian food taste like. I understand that some ingredients are hard to find but can change the food this much and charge that much

The food was very flavorful and the portions were large, however given the price I would have been sorely disappointed otherwise. I really enjoyed the chimichurri and the creamy peruvian hot sauce. I ordered the tres carnes and I was completely shocked by the amount of meat the plate offered - one or two chicken fillets, a healthy serving of succulent pork and one of beef. The menu offered tres carnes with corn cake, so I expected a bed of polenta with sliced meat. I was happy with what I recieved, but the plate was 23 dollars so I also felt it wasn't overly generous. I am not giving it the highest marks because my date did not really like the atmosphere or that they did not have a liquor license and so would only offer wine spritzers. For me, I didn't give it the highest because I felt the service was lacking and it took some time to recieve attention. Upon exiting the restaurant, we were admonished to post a review about the restaurant on Yelp and facebook, and given several postcard advertisements. Bottom line, good food and if it weren't for the price I would like to go again.

I really enjoy the food here, it is fresh and new in my cuisine book. However, Why I co not rate this place higher was the fact that for Valentine's Day I called in advance to reserve a table for two, made sure HAPPY HOUR was on for the day which they confirmed. But when I went on Vday there was NO happy hour. Your business would be growing more if you guys were the only ones in town with specials on Vday..... that actually were true. More people would go and recommend your place because it is so very different than everything else out there. Why try peruvian food if the price is the same or higher than all the other foods I can choose from? I have been in multiple times and there has not been many people there. I wonder how you stay a float with a minimum customer base. Offer more discounts and more will come to eat, then raise prices cause we already know how good it is first not second. I love your restaurant, location, atmosphere, and the food. Be more encouraging to customers. Peruvian food is different, if you want to be more successful, make it easier for us to try.

Amazing food, incredible service, and great ambiance: one of my favorites! The causas are so fresh and the chicha and maracuya (both the drink and the flan) are to die for... the service and management are incredibly welcoming; I make it here whenever I can!

Best meal I've had in a while! Attentive and friendly service, good wine, good beer. Now the food....incredible! I had fillet mignon with some creamy cheese fettuchini. I order steak medium and it came out well. No matter, this cut was so tender and flavorful I ate every bite. Husband ordered lamb and it was fantastic! Yup, it's pricey but I'd rather have one great meal than several crappy (insert roseville/rocklin chain name here) dinners. Yum!!

We popped in by accident on a Friday night, after a long work day, cranky that the restaurant near our house was full. Worse, my spouse is the worst food adventurer in the world - ethnic food, vegetables, oh, no, not for him - so I was anticipating total, epic disaster - especially when he ordered a dish featuring yucca. Let me say, the service and food were so outstanding that I'm taking the time to post a review. The food was lovely, fresh and perfect in presentation. We had the Arroz del Pacifico Sur and the Jalea de Mariscos. But while the food was excellent, the service was so energized, the staff so welcoming, it set the tone for many future return visits. But first, we have to get through our leftovers - the food was generous in portions.

This is just flat awsome. I've eaten there twice and both my wife and I love this place. The food is excellent and quanities are more than sufficient to leave with enough for lunch tomorrow. I'f you don't try this place you're missing a great resturant.

Im peruvian and had the lomo and the meat wasn't cooked very good. It was pink inside and cold. The flavor was still there thankfully so I could eat some of it. I can cook it better. First time coming here and I dont know if I will come back but if I do; I will order something else and give it another try.

Excellent and authentic Peruvian food. Friendly, capable staff. Causas were very good and the octopus was tender. I also had Moriscos that had a very good flavor with a nice sauce. Peruvian food is not for everyone, but if you like it this is a great place to go!

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, we were the only occupants other than the six employees. After looking over the lunch menu long enough to decide they took it away and told us we needed to order dinner. The prices were very high - but we decided to stay, that was a mistake. The food was not good, the service was non existent. We waited for over half an hour for our meal and watched all the servers going around putting forks on tables. Then they moved all the forks from the left side to the right side - then they carefully placed the knives on the left side. Except for our table, they all avoided placing knives on our table. This went on and on - ever watched Candid Camera? I found myself look for the hidden cameras. I was served watery boiled chicken with undercooked potatoes in a bland sauce with plain boiled rice. That was it! No bread which would have been good since I couldn't eat the hard potatoes or the stale gooey rice. Salad would have been nice too, something other than what they put in front of me. My husband was served a trio of meat in the same sauce - he wondered how old the pot roast was they they re-heated and poured sauce over. The decor is nice . . . . everything else was really, really bad.

the first time i came here about a year ago. the food was ok, my husband and i ordered rice and duck, causa rellena, one kid meal, and one chicken plate,it was about 80 bucks. the dishes here is too pricey. the causa was just a little bit :(

Decor is classy, menu sounds delicious and has great variety. Food is plated well and appearance is really top notch. Flavors were disappointingly bland, wait staff friendly but inattentive. Prices are on the high end but align with the ambiance. They are in a tough location during a hard economy. To have a shot IMO they have to kick it up a notch. Tried the ceviche calisco with two sauces on the side. The "spicy" one had taste but no real kick and too much mayonnaise. The other was tasty. The portion was ample and fish fresh. The Amazonas River salad was beautifiul but not very tasty. The Causa Limena which was glorified chicken salad - nice appearance, no interesting tastes With such a good menu and offering exotic Peruvian foods, we expected more. Let's hope they hit their stride soon

If you're missing Peru, this is the place for you. The food is delicious and authentic, it's exactly what you would eat in Peru. We had the Lomo Saltado, which was cooked to perfection and perfectly marinated, and the Aji de Gallina, which is one of my favorite Peruvian dishes and absolutely didn't disappoint. The portions are huge and filling, which was disappointing as we were too stuffed for desert and their deserts look amazing. I will definitely be coming back and I would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends. I think the few negative reviews of this restaurant are from people who have either never been to Peru or who think that the Gaston Acurio designer cuisine they see on the Food Network is authentic Peruvian food.

  • William B.

Everything was perfect, the food, the ambiance. A classy restaurant destination. Portions were large. I had the Lomo Saltado (tenderloin with tomato, onion, rice and french fries) - excellent, with enough to take home for another meal tomorrow. My wife had a shrimp and pasta dish - don't recall the name. The "tres leches" dessert is a favorite of my wife, and she called it the "best ever." I don't know where all these poor reviews are coming from, but I must say that they are LEARNING from them, and I think you will be well rewarded with a great experience, as we were, if you ignore them and go to La Huaca when you are in the mood for a classy meal.

We were invited to their private dining before the opening day and we are glad we went! The food was absolutely amazing! We tried about 8 different plates and every one of them was outstanding. The Lomo Saltado is the probably the best I have ever had and I have eaten it in Peru. This restaurant is something you expect to find in San Francisco but it's here in Roseville. Can't wait to came back and bring all my friends.

Excellent. La Huaca definitely uses the best ingredients. The ambiance is unique. And the service is awesome. I don't have any complaints, after trying plenty of different Peruvian restaurants in the US and Peru I can definitely say that La Huaca is one of the best. I would recommend a ceviche de aji amarillo and saving room for a desert sampler!

Got the groupon and so glad we came! Causa camarones was soooo good! Dinner entree, took waiters advice and ordered tacu tacu, yummy rice with yucca & beans ,shrimp, fish and calamari in the most amazing sauce!! Chimichurri sauce they bring with the free bread is very good. Paired my dish with peruvian malbec and finished off with sampler dessert which was supper good, next time i will get the full size of the Suspiro de Limena, it's like liquid caramal, i licked the bowl! My fiance had the lamb (Seco de Cordero) and it fell off the bone. We love Limon in SF and can say this definetly can compete! !

What a gift to have found this restaurant! Each dish we had was better than the last we were served. We did order a second helping of Jalea Mixta, the delightlfully light and crispy mixed seafood. We also cleaned up every morsel of the ceviche, causas, and antichuchos. I would not hesitate to order ANYTHING on the menu. The decor is sparse but charming, Everything was superb. Keep up the great work. We'll definitely be back!

Have had Peruvian many places and ranks amongst the best. Grilled octopus and ceviche some of most flavorful and best cooked ever. My 6 year old devoured the octopus. It is a huge value for the price! Better than la Mer in SF!

Love this place! My husband is Peruvian and I've had many Peruvian meals at home and at many diff. Peruvian restaurants and have been to Peru--and La Huaca is def. authentic Peruvian food to me AND my husband; (although I've heard some Peruvians knock it for not being homey enough or not following some strict guideline they believe would make a dish authentic--but, to me, I just see that as their own stubbornness and lack of culinary adventure rather than a real, critically valid take on the authenticity of the dishes, as I believe the chef has artistic license and can re-interpret a dish and that's not a bad thing in this case!) La Huaca ranks high as one of my fave restaurants! I dream about the Yuca Frita they have there--so good! The service is friendly, knowledgeable and available. We bring our young son and the kids menu is perfect for him. The prices are fair for the amazing culinary adventure they take you on--it's well worth it! I wish La Huaca the best and I hope they will be in business for many years to come! It's awesome to have such a great Peruvian restaurant close to home to avoid a trek to S.F.

I drove by this restaurant and have been wanting to try it so when I saw that they had a Groupon special, I bought it and went to try this place. Before going, I read the reviews about how they should change the Peruvian music and how they should not pour the wine at the table... I was like what the heck kind of review are these?? Anyway, me and my boyfriend had lunch here and it was fantastic. The server was very attentive, filling our drinks without us asking. The music was the regular Peruvian music and the environment was very nice. All the art work in there symbolizes Peru. The food was delicious.. A little bit expensive but I am definitely going back. This place reminds me of Limon which in in San Fransisco. I would highly recommend this place!!! :)

We just enjoyed lunch at this restaurant. Food was great, service was great, and portions are large enough that we brought a good portion home in a to go box. With wine, appetizers, entree, and tip, we did spend almost $100 but the experience was very pleasant. On the weekend, this restaurant doesn't have a lunch menu, so this was a dinner experience.

La Huaca is a nice addition to the Sacramento area dining scene. The cuisine of Peru is not much represented in these parts and it is done quite well here. They have several cerviches on the menu and you would be remiss to not try one as an appetizer. We had the mixto and found it to be absolutely superb. In a world of appetite deadening starters, cerviche is perfect. It is light and beautifully textured and flavored and primes you for the entree to come. The entrees range from about $17-$27 and so you'll have to spend a little money here but the food is nicely done and quite generous. You will probably take home lunch for the next day. In fact, for the first time in recorded history, my brother required a take home container, unable to polish off the enormous plate of Pachamanca Tres Carnes which is an entree of three meats. I had the Lomo Saltado, another generous meat dish. Everything I saw heading to another table looked good. Give this one a try.

The service at lunch was great. The food was over salted and lacked portion control. This restaurant is average and based upon that, over priced. Very lousy beer choices ...

I don't usually yelp things unless I am motivated by of a rather strong dislike or a strong approval. In this case, it is approval. I like new things, so never having had Peruvian food before, I went to La Huaca with an open mind. Man, was it good. Over the years I have grown to appreciate flavor, the more intense, the better. But, I also have continued to dislike more and more plain old heat. I found this food to be intensely flavorful without burning my mouth. Admittedly, I can't compare this with any other Peruvian restaurants because I haven't been to any. All I can say, therefore, is that the food was great, and if other Peruvian restaurants are this good, they should sweep the nation. The atmosphere was nice - not incredible, but nice. There were lots of people there when we went, but it wasn't too noisy, just lively. The service matched the food. Our waiter (Mexican, not Peruvian) was an absolute gentleman. He was so classy that I thought I was being waited on by a member of the Peruvian royal family. His name is Ocatvia. Ask for him if you go there. But he was not alone. Whenever I needed anything, someone popped over with it. The receptionist was always checking on us to see if we needed anything. Price was decent, and the food was not only great, but lots of it. You will not go away hungry. A wonderful experience - I am looking forward to taking friends there.

I had the Salmon del Sur which was the best salmon I have ever had. The pesto sauce was delightfully refreshing and the salmon itself was flaky and buttery. It came with a bed of quinoa which had robust flavors and a nice pairing of artichoke hearts, asparagus, baby corn and tomatoes. My boyfriend had a filet mignon which he said was comparable to a filet mignon that he had for double the price at a well known restaurant in the Central Coast. The ambiance was quiet and romantic with interesting decor and La Huaca had an extensive wine list. If you are looking for a fancy and romantic dinner for 2 or a group of friends I would highly suggest this place. We will definitely be back for more, and I am glad I found this treasure so close to home.

I bought a Groupon to try this place and found a great hidden jem. My friend and I had two different chicken dishes. We both loved them. The portions are large and the dishes are quite flavorful. We will definitely be back. Oh and did I mention the chimichurri sauce they serve with the bread. Yummm.

What a great find for ethnic food in Roseville. The food was outstanding, the service was excellent and accommodating. The restaurant seems quieter than most. Portions were very generous, order an entree to share. I recommend the Mixto Ceveche, order it mild unless you want a burn.

I have read some of the other reviews on here, and I do have to disagree with them. We had a wonderful dinner tonight. Our waiter, Mark, was very friendly yet not fawning, helpful with the menu and attentive throughout the dinner. We had a wonderful ceviche and a chicken appetizer, a lamb shank and sliced steak entrees with a wonderful Peruvian Malbec and dessert sampler that we shared with coffee and tea. Yes, the menu was a bit pricy, but no pricier than a good sushi restaurant that served good sashimi or nigiri sushi. We drove from Sacramento and will gladly do so again. While La Huaca will not be habitual dining experience, it is on our list for when we want a dinner for a special occasion or feel we deserve a treat. And I have eaten at Peruvian restaurants in the Bay Area as well as in friends homes who were from Peru, and the ceviche I had was definitely in the same league as both the restaurants in SF and Bay Area and with the homemade ceviche I have been served in Peruvian and Ecuadorian friends homes.

Excellent service. Both the hostess and our waiter were excellent. The ambiance was very comfortable. The place was clean, though I would've liked some Peruvian art pieces on display. Wife ordered Lomo Saltado and she cant stop talking about. I ordered Ceveche decrocoto. I must say, to enjoy ceviche, u must like raw fish b/c it is not cooked. The prices were more than reasoable and I would recc this place w/o any reservations.

Just like the others have written, I was VERY excited and happy when I saw the restaurant when I happen to drive by one day. I looked forward to the opening and when I actually went, I was kind of disappointed. I wanted to LIKE this restaurant and was hoping this would be one of my FAVORITE restaurant to go to frequently...however, I haven't been back for over 2 months! I went there for lunch looking forward to possibly having Papas a la huancaina or anticucho and lomo saltado or aji de gaina. First of all I was VERY surprised on how expensive everything was and that they didn't have what I wanted and thought was a very standard item. After staring at the limited choices, I had the lomo saltado. The presentation was nice but the amount was so little I was shocked. Maybe it's just their style but was expecting the french fries to be mixed with the meat and peppers but was on the side as though I ordered a stir fry with fries on the side. Wanted some chimichurri but when I asked the waitress she didn't know what I was talking about and I had to describe it then after waiting for about 5 minutes I got a little in a tiny dish. LOVE Peruvian food so wish they would improve/increase their food, maybe make it a little more relaxed with more feel for "homemade" food and more food in general. Although it was tasty, I left still feeling very hungry....but it would have been too expensive for me to order one more item. Nice decor.

I liked the food here. Not sure how authentic it is, but I enjoyed my meal. I ordered the ceviche mixto for the appetizer and the Peruvian paella for my main course. The ceviche was small, but it filled me up. The paella was a very big portion, which was nice because it was not a cheap choice. I absolutely loved the complimentary bread they brought to our table. It was just too bad they gave us the bread, appetizers and dinner ALL at once. We had a reservation for six, on a Thursday night, and although the place was half empty, our waiter was MIA for most of the night. I would give this place four stars for food quality and one for customer service, therefore, I give it three stars. Will try back and see if service was "off" that day. I ordered a small ceviche appetizer, Peruvian paella and a diet coke. My bill was $38 including tax and tip.

Went here for dinner yesterday with friends. We had the mixed ceviche which was amazing. The fried calamari and shrimp app and the skewers app were yummy. The duck confit dinner, lamb shank dinner, and the mixed seafood were all delish. Our server Cat was professional, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable about the Peruvian cuisine which is probably one of the earliest of the fusion cuisines. All if the dishes were beautifully presented. The only thing I think needs a little improvement is the type of bread used to eat with the chimchurri dipping sauce. The restaurant is well decorated with a light and airy atmosphere. I will be definitely coming back as this is one of the top restaurants in Roseville, CA.

Though I have nothing to compare Peruvian cuisine to as this is thus far the first and only place I've ever had it, I'd say it's pretty damn good. The first time I came here was on Valentine's Day. I indulged in the anticuchos tres especies and the fettuccini a la huancaina y lomo anticuchero. Both were actually really good and the dinner plate was unusual but delicious for my Spanish seafood tongue. My only concern is the appetizer was a little on the lukewarm side. Again, it was delicious, but that's a bit of a red flag when serving fish. I give them the benefit of the doubt as 1.) it was VERY busy and 2.) maybe that's just how they serve it? Again, I'm no debonair with Peruvian food, so I've nothing to compare it to... The 2nd time was more recent and again, everything was pretty tasty. This time around, I shared a plate of yucas a la huancaina and for dessert tried their sampler, the dulce aventura peruana. The yucas were amazing for me and surprising in a way. The sauce and potato/mozzarella combo was perfect. And you really can't mess up desserts... they sure didn't. Oh - and their chicha morada is REALLY good. My only complaint from the most recent rendezous is they're advertised to stay open until 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays, but around 9:30 p.m. they turned off the music and some of the lights in the restaurant. This took them down a couple pegs for me because I do believe customer service is a huge part of a dining experience - especially when the place isn't necessarily cheap. I understand everyone wants to get out on a Saturday night, but the vibe was incredibly pushy and a bit uncomfortable for me. I prefer not to sit in the dark in an almost completely silent restaurant, especially when I'm not the only patron left. I believe there were 3 - 4 other parties remaining inside that took this hint as well. I suppose third time's a charm as this place really does have good food, but seems a bit hit-or-miss. I woefully admit in the meanwhile, I'll be on the hunt for a more consistent Peruvian based restaurant.

My partner and I went to La Huaca for Valentines Day. We had the special three course dinner they had prepared for the evening. Everything about the evening was perfect. The food was amazing. I remember taking my first bite and looking at my husband who was also experiencing that magical moment when good food transports you to a very happy place. The service was exceptional. The place was super busy. He had made a reservation which was great or we would not have gotten a table. Despite the busyness, we were attended to in a most conscientious manner. We did not have to wait to be served. We were not rushed. We really felt like honored guests. It has been many months since we visited La Huaca, and I wish I could remember details of what we had for dinner. Sadly, the details escape me. What remains are memories of a premium experience - the perfect marriage of ambiance, amazing food, and great service. I can't wait to go back.

My 2nd time to go to this place and not definitely my last..... Food servings are moderate. There were 4 of us and shared 3 entrees....it was more than enough! The seafood paella, Arroz del Pacifico Sur, was very good, i would highly recommend it. We also had the salmon, loved the quinoa salad and veggies on the side. Lastly, we had beef tenderloin cuts, Lomo Saltado, it was delicious too, my friend enjoyed it a lot. For dessert, we had the flan....it was a super-duper bite size serving not too elated about it (thus the 4 stars and wouldn't recommend it for sharing) BUT they were delish. The next time we go back, we will have the ceviches.

We ABSOLUTELY LOVED LA HUACA. The food is beyond flavorful and delicious and the service is excellent. We came here after multiple recommendations from friends and family - and found a groupon so thought hey, why not. I got a steak dish and my husband i think a seafood pasta and we were NOT disappointed. I can't believe I'm only just not discovering Peruvian cuisine! We can't wait to go back (it's a bit pricey) and am just looking for an opportunity to do so :) This is definitnely one to try - the flavors are so bold and developed, it'll be hard to go back to anything else! I think they do a lot of events here too - definintely they have the painting events here - there's a whole section of the restaurant dedicated to it - and i think they have brunch and various events at other times. Ready to go back!!!

The food here is amazing!! I ordered the lomo saltado and everything was cooked to perfection. I also had the chicha morals and it was very refreshing and fruity. The service was great also, they were very attentive and checked on us constantly. I would definitely come back!

Amazing, fresh, delicious food at a good price :-) service is excellent too!! Viviana was very attentive, helpful, and answered all of our questions. The lunch special was so good and only $13.95 for an appetizer, entree, and drink. Will definitely be back!!

I was in town for work and of course wanted seafood so I turned to yelp for a recommendation and this fantastic Peruvian place turned up. I've recently gotta really into Peruvian ceviche, I love how it's made with mostly white fish compared to traditional ceviche made with shrimp. Their Mixto was the mostly highly recommended so I went for that. It consisted of mahi mahi, shrimp, octopus, calamari, roasted & steamed corn and sweet potato to cool the mouth. My server Octavio was very nice, the restaurant is clean and there was a lot of people dining for a Monday night. For $20 including tax and tip the portion was a little small but I'm comparing it to the portion I get at my local place in San Diego called Cafe Secret which is large enough for 2 people to have that and only need to share a main meal. But overall it was good and I would come back! Oh and make sure to check in on yelp as they give you a glass of wine on the house, I'll save that for next time!

By far the best Peruvian food in the sacramento area. You can't go wrong ! It is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Now I'm hungry.

Oh oh oh! This place is amazing. Happened to be in roseville and stumbled onto this place. A bit pricey, but the food is Amazing! The free bread is yucky. The chimichuri sauce is bland, but ooh, ooh, ooh the food is super yummy. Our table had the mixto ceviche, paella and shrimp chowder. Wow all our food was excellent. I was really impressed with the fact that the squid and shrimp tasted really fresh and were not tough but cooked perfectly, tender and succulent. Imho this is rare to find. Flavors spices were excellent not watered down. House red wine was very good, for a house wine. Will definitely be back.

An excellent food experience, not just a meal!!! I was very pleasantly surprised at every facet of this restaurant. The decor and cleanliness is comparable to a 4 or 5 star restaurant. However, they make it feel like their grandmother's kitchen. There was a paint night and ever member of the staff is so courteous and helpful. As for the food...one word DELICIOUS times 100!!! From the complimentary bread and the spread, to the insatiable octopus appetizer, the duck confit dish, to the delectable lamb shank...it was ALL awesome and so fresh. The dessert sampler is a must! If you want to impress a date or business partner please bring them here ASAP!

Stopped in here for lunch and at first, thought the place was closed but I saw that the "open" sign was on. When I walked in, there was another couple who looked puzzled as to whether the place was open. Not sure how long they were waiting but I was almost tempted to walk out because of the confusion. But soon enough, a friendly hostess/server seated us. It may have been an off day because most of the lights were off and the ones that were, was dimly lit. Good thing, I waited. Once the couple were seated, the kind and friendly hostess seated me immediately after. I ordered the Peruvian paella lunch special. It was only minutes before my hostess/server brought out my drink and complimentary rolls with the delicious chimichurri. My paella was beautiful in presentation. Loaded with shrimp, two clams, calamari, and octopus. My only complaint was that it was too salty and I only ate a quarter of my dish because of it and found that after a few bites, I lost interest. I've had better paella elsewhere. At $13.95, I just didn't think it was worthy. The service was on point and it may have been an off day. I'm not sure if I'll be back any time soon but the other items on their menu look a bit more promising and intriguing.

What a great place in an unassuming new suburb strip mall. Much larger than i expected. Tons of cool art line the walls with Peruvian accents throughout. A large menu of many choices that i had a hard time narrowing down. I wanted everything. Chiccarrones, chupe de camorone, causa sampler, pork/beef/chicken stew with corn cakes, and the tacu tacu de mariscos. That was a ton but i felt it just scratched the surface. The chupe was especially delicious and could have been a meal in itself. Portions are large so the more people you have the better. Chicha morada and maracuyá are good beverage choices and ending with the lúcuma dessert is never bad either. 4.3 stars

4 solid hefty stars. After school, I was craving some lomo saltado. Looked up Peruvian and found this Roseville establishment inside of a strip mall. What a find! Plenty of parking in the lot...clean restaurant...fantastic service. We were greeted immediately upon entering. Food was served at appropriate times and we were checked on in between. Appetizer: ceviche. We stuck with the regular fish ceviche. It was served with hominy, corn, and red onions. Delicious. You have the option of picking how spicy you want it. Fish was fresh...flavored were spot on. Oh, and you can't forget the rolls to start off the meal served with chimichurri. Yum! Entrees: lamb shank and lomo saltado. The lamb shank was cooked perfectly...tender and falling off the bone. It was seasoned well and served with beans and rice. The lomo saltado was awesome. The meat was super tender. It wasn't too salty and there was plenty of food...probably enough for 2 people. I loved that the French fries weren't mixed in. Dessert: We ordered the sample platter. That included tres leches, Peruvian ice cream, rice pudding, and some sort of caramel mixture. The ice cream and caramel were my top 2. I'd skip out on the tres leches. With our 10% yelp discount, the bill came out to $65. I thought it was fair for the amount of food and the quality. Solid 4 stars and a definite return.

This is the most awesome food I've had in soooo long! Flavors are not of the everyday fare... delicious, exquisite, really! I had some white fish, which was cooked to perfection! Service was very good. Ismael was our server, and I assumed that he was the owner since he was so attentive but not overbearing... He's a Five Star Server! Friendly, and feel free to ask him for suggestions if your not quite sure what to order. We did, and we're not disappointed! I had the Tatu Tatu with White Fish... SUPERB!!!

Food was great! Service was meh. Had to flag server down constantly to order items and barely understood his accent. I think service should be better for the high meal cost and factored in tip IMO.

This place never disappoints! The ceviche classico is hands down a must try! I swear they sprinkle some crack in there. I tried the shrimp saltado this time and it was mouth watering. The house hotsauce is a must with whatever dish you get.

OMG this place rocks!!! Me and my family went to this restaurant for the first time just to try something new and we loved it. I always heard and seen pictures of it on fb and thought lets go check this place out. This place was very nice, clean, and friendly. The waiter came to our table got our orders and brought the food back really fast.. The food looked so pretty and tasty. Lol We will definitely go back to this place again.

My parents went to Davis for my commencement yesterday and lived in Sacramento because everywhere else is booked. We could not have dinner in Davis or Sacramento because every restaurant is booked!!!!!!! So we search on Yelp randomly and found this place. OMG this place is awesome! First of all the waiter is super nice. I would give him 10 stars but the limit is 5. The menu looked like a foreign language textbook to me so I had to carefully read the English description below every item. Food was served quickly. Food: The portion is huge for me. We order two appertizers and four entrees for six people to share. Maybe we were still full from lunch, but we couldn't finish any of the entrees. Chicken skewers was yummy. Super tender and juicy. Ceviche combo was so satisfying :D The duck is a must! The rice that comes with it was my favorite! Peruvian paella is another must! I love love love it! The seafood doesn't have a "previously frozen" taste if you know what I mean. Lamb shank was too salty for me so I won't ne ordering it next time. Saddly I don't remeber the other entree that we ordered. This place is highly recommended!!!!!!

Let me preface this by saying that the service was phenomenal and that I always give restaurants the benefit of the doubt when it comes to pretty much everything. I came by as they were opening and felt welcomed by the staff. It was early and the restaurant was getting set up, so I was the first customer of the day. I ordered a chicha morada which was delicious. The friendly service, delicious drink, and lovely music made me feel like I stumbled upon a hidden gem and potentially new favorite destination in Roseville. Then the starters come out: ceviche mixto (fish, shrimp, octopus, calamari, corn and sweet potato) and the Anticuchos Tres Especies (grilled tenderloin, chicken, and fish served with sauce and small potatoes). Mid bite, I began to notice the gnats. Freely walking on the tenderloin as if they were about to plant a flag and claim it as their own territory. I found myself swatting a lot throughout the meal. The ceviche also tasted like it had just been thawed prior to serving instead of fresh. The main course was Arroz con Pato (cilantro rice with duck confit and salsa criolla). The rice and salsa criolla were amazing and I would've happily eaten heaping bowls of that, but the duck confit was really tough and a bit hard to bite through. Based on the reviews, I get that it may have been an off day and would normally go at it again, but am just a little put off by the gnats. Still giving 3 stars.

The food was out of this world! This is the best Peruvian food we have ever had and we live in LA. The manager Ishmael was so nice and provided great service. We loved the cerviche mixto, lomo and pollo saltado, and the duck. You must order the Pisco cocktails. My sons wish this restaurant was closer to home!

We've been driving by La Huaca for months pondering a visit and finally made it in today for lunch. Wow. One of the best meals I've had in some time. First - general impressions: The restaurant is spotless, orderly and very nicely decorated. Robert Irvine would approve. We came in around noon on Memorial day. There was only one other table occupied when we arrived. Apparently because of the holiday we were ordering from the dinner menu. I believe during the week they have a lunch menu that is slightly less expensive. My wife ordered the Tacu Tacu de Mariscos - a traditional mix of rice and beans (Tacu Tacu) bathed in Peruvian peppers sauce with calamari and shrimp. The flavor was outstanding and the portion was considerable. She stopped half way through intending to take leftovers to work the next day. Then she thought better of it and finished it off. I had the Salmon del Sur. Salmon with a nice crust topped with La Huaca's chimichurri sauce accompanied by sauteed veggies (artichoke hearts, zucchini, broccoli) and a quinoa salad. Each dish was about $19 - more than we typically care to pay for lunch. But the food quality simply cannot be beat. We'll be back, probably for dinner - their wine list looks reasonably priced so I suspect we can have two entrees, a bottle of wine and possibly an appetizer for under a hundy. Pretty reasonable for a date night.

Went last night, a great restaurant. Quiet atmosphere, very , very professional staff. Good food, a nice change from the everyday menus. They had an octopus al olivio that was a new spin on octopus for me. Quite good. Surprised, it was not more packed with people. If your looking for a new spot to mix it up, I highly recommend checking it out! Also:try the yuca bread ball appetizer stuffed with cheese..and a Peruvian beer!

We celebrated our anniversary here. Ambiance was intimate with table clothes, soft lighting. Food was delicious, service was excellent! Our server was helpful, friendly and timed arrival of the dishes perfectly. We first had Pulpo de Olivo, wow, would have licked the plate if at home. A lot of perfectly cooked octopus in a lovely sauce. Then we shared the Mixto Ceviche, the fish was fresh and the marinade a touch spicey...just right & enough to share.I ordered Peruvian Paella, a large portion with lots of seafood. Our server noted that I liked extra spicy food and brought a little dish of "pepper sauce"..wow XX spicy and I loved it! Husband enjoyed every last bite of Camarones Entre Lima y Pisco. We look forward to returning soon. Hope to see the new website soon!

Great experience. Food was delicious, but a little pricey. Being new to Peruvian food, I was impressed. Hubby and I shared an appetizer of yucca-cheese balls. They were soft and filled with melted cheese. Slightly spicy. Delicious! Hubby ordered lamb for dinner. He loved it enough that I only got a small taste. Pretty good. I ordered a slow cooked meat plate that had chicken, beef and pork over potatoes and corn cakes with gravy. The smell and look reminded me of my mother's pot roast. The taste was much better. Large portion so I brought half my meal home. We split a dessert sampler also good. It was a good way to figure out which dessert we would want next time. All in all a good dinner.

Well, this place was quite a pleasant surprise! Interior is very classy and modern. We haven't had Peruvian dinner since we were in south FL. (If I knew the decor earlier, I would not have come in lounge wear.) There are a lot of menu options to choose from. Complementary buns with chimmichuri sauce. I ordered the potato cake with avocado and chicken salad. Very cooling and refreshing with substance. I would definitely order this as an entree on a hot day. Everything coming out is very visually pleasing. He ordered a trio of meat, fish and chicken in a rich sauce (which reminded me of a pakistani/Indian curry sauce). My entree is the salmon which was dressed in chimmichuri. It came with a quinoa salad and mixed vegetables. Service was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely return. Very nice to have this type of caliber restaurant in the neighborhood. Authentic, classy and satisfying!

La Huaca rocks! They have the best genuine ceviche...of u are more familiar with Central American style ceviche. I am Panamanian and felt like I was swept away to Panama when I tried their ceviche. And I was very impressed to learn they carry corvina...a fish that is hard to find outside of Panama (has been my experience up to now).

My wife found this place in one of the Sacramento magazines where she gets her hair cut. Having recently discovered Peruvian food, we had to go here. Happily we were not disappointed. The ceviche was great, and the causas (we had the sampler) were all amazing. This was one of the best meals we have had in a long time.

I love this place! Been here a couple of times and have never been disappointed. I have never been fond of ceviche(any marinade), but I love the way they prepare it, and now I can't get enough of it. I've had some Peruvian guidance as to what to order. The Lomo Saltado is awesome. The meat has always been tender and flavorful. I'll keep going back and trying different items.

How I've driven past this place and not stopped in until today is beyond me. Ceviche De pulpo, Lomo saltado. This little restaurant really has great food! It's a great place to go for lunch or dinner and the staff is very friendly! I will say the portions are a little inconsistent as I have gotten different sizes every time I go. I also wish they had a better selection for kids. All in all this place is a must try for something unique and different!

Another outstanding meal! I had the beef skewers, which were cooked perfectly at med-well, (I usually like mine med-rare to med, but they still maintained their juiciness) they were tender and flavorful served on grilled potatoes and red onions. I also had the chicharron served on sweet potato purée and red onions. But the star was the Ceviche` Classico with med heat! It was accompanied with roasted peanuts, Peruvian corn, and pickled carrots. The ceviche` was made with white fish and marinated in a citrus, cilantro, hot red pepper, and red onion concoction that was nothing short of amazing. I never had anything like it! The fish chunks were larger than in your Mexican version. I will order the larger version next visit!

First time eating here. Went for lunch. Like others have said, there is no bell to announce your arrival, so I recommend walking into the restaurant to find someone. Not a big deal to me. I had the Cuasa de Limena which was very good. very flavorful and beautifully presented. Next was the Seco de Carne. The meat was very tender and cooked to perfection - fell apart. I love the flavor of the beans. The bread with the chimchurri dip was a nice surprise. Yummy. A bit pricey, but I'll be back when I can afford to treat myself again.

Outstanding Peruvian food! A good selection of Peruvian wines and beers, which is kinda of fun. The food was excellent. the Tres Ceviche plate was very tasty. It was a good way to try a few of the Ceviche styles at once. Another tasty plate we tried was the Calamari - Shrimp and Fish plate which was just outstanding! The location is very clean and the décor is fun to check out. Service was great.

What a find ! La Huaca is becoming one of our favorites in Roseville. The lunch menu gives you an opportunity to try something different with every visit. Try the Paella, delicious and loaded with seafood. The brisket over mash potatoes was tasty as well. Great food and drinks with friendly service and good value priced, what more can you ask for. We will be back for dinner and bring some friends

I had a little bit of Peruvian food at a street fair a number of years ago and haven't had the opportunity to try it again until I heard about this place. I wasn't sure where it was exactly, only that "its next to the yogurt place by the Urgent Care" from what I was told. When we walked in, the first thing I noticed (besides the music) was that the walls had pictures of the Nazca Lines on them. I thought that was pretty cool. We had the Mixto for a starter - fish, shrimp, and calamari with tartar sauce and some other spicy sauce. It was very good. I ordered the blue cheese salad and it was a huge salad. Practically a dinner entree itself. My meal was the Lomo Saltado - sliced tenderloin with onions, tomatoes, rice, and fries. The meat was very tender and the rice had a nice flavor to it. My favorite part was the fact that just about everything we ordered included a big pile of red onions (some thinly sliced and others large chunks). I like onions so I wasn't complaining! It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night but the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was a little expensive; the bill was over $80 just for the two of us. Maybe next time we'll get a $8 salad to split instead of another $20 starter. What I find a little disappointing is that many people are commenting that this place doesn't serve "real" Peruvian food. I can't dismiss their claims (nor would I want to anyway because we're all entitled to an opinion) but to me its like someone saying you have to go to San Francisco to get "real" Chinese food because the Chinese food here in the Sacramento Valley is too "American". Maybe it is, maybe it isn't but my point is that just because it might not be exactly like the traditional cuisine, that doesn't automatically make it bad food. I'll be back again sometime.

We were promptly greeted by the owner and seated Excellent service continued through our whole experience. A round of drinks and ceviech to start was fresh and full of flavor. Chicharon appetizer was my favorite dish explosive with flavor. Ariz con pollo Chicken and pork fried rice Two other dishes (I will update lster) This was lunch Flavors were fantastic. Want to give this place 5 stars because the food is amazing. Had the pachamanca trio and I can't stop talking about it. Plus they have authentic chicha morada!!!! But the live music group they had was so bad and so off key that it was actually difficult to listen to. And it was also very loud. Uncomfortably so.

I'm so bummed to do this! We went here before and the food was delicious and service was decent. Went here tonight with a groupon at 5:30 and only one other family was there. We let them know right away we had a Groupon and I'm not sure if that had to do with the poor service. Other tables filled in after us and they all had their food before us. Bread service didn't come by until 40 minutes before we were sat. Almost an hour after we were sat before our food arrived. It was so bland and mushy, we couldn't finish it. The only plus was the chicken skewers. A little past 7 we were finally out the door. Don't think we'll stop by here again

My mom and I liked to "adventure" with our food and we decided to try this place. I'm glad we did! The restaurant is beautiful and the servers are very knowledgable about the menu and the culture. :) Ceviche is amazing (although understandably pricy) and their other dishes are delicious also. The sauces are so good. Their potato dishes are so good - they are cold, which I didn't think I would like, but the one with shrimp was so delightful. I will definitely be back.

It is quite hard to find Peruvian food in the Sacramento area, it is even harder to find ''good'' Peruvian food. La Huaca is a very stylish, good looking restaurant. Inside, it has Nasca lines on the walls accompanied by Andean music. The restaurant is fairly spacious. Service is decent, hostess took a while to attend to us, the waiter was knowledgeable about Peruvian food. After ordering, the food took a while to be ready but it was reasonable considering the amount of people they had. The food at La Huaca has great taste, the amount and type of condiments give unique flavor to the food and are not overused. The Lomo Saltado is delicious, Causa Rellena and the Mixed Ceviche are just mouthwatering. Unfortunately, this place is quite overpriced, the portions I was given were absurd considering how much food costs here. Unfortunately, there aren't many Peruvian restaurants in Roseville/Sacramento but overall, this is a good place to try Peruvian food, expect to spend quite a bit for it though.

After reading other reviews, we were looking forward to our initial visit. We studied the menu in advance after scoring a Groupon coupon for dinner. Only one other table was occupied as we entered at dinnertime. No problem with reservations! The empty tables concerned us. Knowing in advance what we wanted, we promptly ordered entrees, no appetizers. Of course, we confirmed the wisdom of our choices with our knowledgeable waiter. The waiter offered to let try two Peruvian vinos, a red and a white. Nice touch. However, the wines were disappointing and, at almost $10/glass, pricey. We ordered beer instead. La Huaca serves a small dinner roll plate with a dipping sauce but it does not precede dinner. It arrives with the entrees. So, we nursed our ShockTops as our stomachs rumbled for something to nibble. Not a bad idea to get that plate of rolls on the table right away even if they don't do this in Peru. My entree of Pachamanca Tres Carnes was decent except for a large amount of fat (3 or 4 ounces) underneath the three meats. Unappetizing display once the meat was moved. I shifted it to the bread plate. Everything tasted good but the Peruvian corn cakes were pretty much inedible, like stale bread. Maybe this is how they are supposed to be. I chiseled my way through one, left the other. My wife's entree of Seco de Cordero con Frijoles (lamb shank) was disappointing. The meat was very hard to cut. We had to request a steak knife. And it was quite red, suggesting undercooking. However, our waiter said it had been slow cooked for six hours. We wonder if they turned on the crock pot. The best stuff on the plate was the frijoles or white beans. The meat flavors were good, though. Not a knockout by any means. Only two more tables filled during our time in this very attractive establishment. Overall, less than 10% of the tables had patrons. Best part of the meal? The ShockTop beers. This is an American-made Belgium wheat beer, unfiltered. Very similar to Bavarian Hefe Weizen, our all-time favorite. We won't return any time soon.

This place was amazing especially the ceviche. I will be coming back very soon for another taste. Loved the environment and the staff were very friendly recommended us to try many amazing food. If your looking for good food and friendly staff this is the place to go!!

Nice selection of dishes from pot roast to ceviche. Great atmosphere as well. My only complaint is that every dish we ordered came with cilantro on it.

I was very anxious to try la huaca because of all of the fabulous reviews. My experience was mixed, however. Sangria was Excellency, as was the service. The server explained the menu and have us some suggestions. There was so much to choose from. I ordered mahi mahi with seafood on top..the calamari was good, but fish was a little dry...spices were adequate, but I expected more flavor. My friend ordered the paella, sick did not have that great flavor...somewhat bland, which was way below our expectations....the cerviche appetizer was good, but again I expected better. We ordered the sampler dessert....it looked really pretty, but again, not great. Four of the five had a at potato base and different topping...I am not sure if I will return, but if I do, it'll need to get the cerviche.

Great little restaurant with nice ambiance, cool Andes music playing, great & attentive service, and really good food. Went for my birthday lunch with the folks and I had an amazing tilapia dish. I could've eaten a gallon of the sauce that came on the fish, it was that good, and the fish was cooked to perfection. Served with white rice and veggies. Mom had a beef dish that reminded me a bit of stew but with better flavor. Dad had a pork dish, and unfortunately, since dad doesn't like onions and ordered it without its sauce, the pork was very dry and didn't have much flavor. We were also served yummy rolls and a sauce/chimichurri that was very, very tasty! Overall, very nice experience - looking forward to going back!

Absolutlely Wonderful service, and fantastic food! Ismael was our waiter, and he was attentive, informative, kind and amicable. My husband ordered Ceviche, which was absolutely wonderful! Ceviche is an acid cooked/cured mahi mahi (at least the one he had) and it was refreshing, light and satisfying. The menu is VERY reasonably priced. The food is wonderfully prepared, and presentation is high class. This was our first Peruvian dining experience, and may become a new favorite date night stop! I could write more wonderful things, but I'll just wrap up by saying this place is TOP NOTCH!

This place continues to deliver consistency everytime I eat here. I have eaten here at least ten times and I still love it. The wait staff is professional and attentive, they always accomidate my "picky eater" choices so I can enjoy my meal more, they are delightful. I have had items I don't like as well as others, but the meal is always beautifully presented and full of interesting flavors. Just has dinner with my family the other night everyone loved it,like I said this place continues to deliver consistently.

Wow, just wow. Fantastic service, phenomenal food, great ambiance. Checked in on yelp for a free glass of wine (YESSS)! Went with a friend and we ordered the mixto ceviche which was very refreshing especially with medium level spice. Also had the Amazonas River salad (which doesn't come with lettuce, btw) and it was a really interesting combo of flavors, we both loved it as a starter. The highlight of the meal was the octopus causas, mostly because octopus is rarely served so finely cooked and the overall flavors were just to die for. That one is served cold but it works well with the dish. Those three plates were plenty for two people and we had a lovely time! Highly recommend.

I went here for lunch, but I ended up leaving without eating any food. Why? Because they made me wait for more than 15 mins at the front door while the whole restaurant is almost empty. What kind of service? At the beginning, I feel it's fine, I can browse the menu first, all food are quite expensive, like appetizer charges more than 1$0 each. If you wanna charge for premium price, you'd better provide premium service. However, what I get was no service. I guess you guys don't really wanna earn money. Okay loh, I get it.

Let me start off by saying this was my first experience having Peruvian food and it left a lasting impression on my taste buds. The food was so flavorful that you just cant stop eating literally. When we arrived we started off with a plate of there homemade bread and a cilantro jam that was heaven. For a appetizer we had Anticuchos Tres Especies, which was a top tenderloin, chicken and fish all marinated in a special homemade anticuchera sauce served with slice potatoes and salsa criolla. This is a must to try the meats were all prepared perfectly and the flavor was intense. Dinner was nothing short of perfection, i ordered the Fettuccini a La Crema de Pesto con Churrasco. It was a plate of thinly cut grilled beef aromatized with parsley and cilantro served with our homemade cream of pesto sauce topped on a bed of fettuccine. Throws napkin in the air and raises hands yes , yes this was a winner all around. If you are in the mood for some amazing food i suggest you go here for any celebration or even just to treat yourself to a beautiful meal. The ambiance is inviting and the staff is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

I would have loved to give this place 5 stars but the appetizer portions were just laughably small. Don't get me wrong, the food was on point and entrees were a more decent portion size. I would go back however I could skip the appetizer and order another entree to split.

  • Terese L.

Service was excellent! The food was well presented but wasn't very flavorful. Maybe it was the dish I ordered (Aji De Gallina) but it tasted like an ordinary home dish with chicken, rice and gravy. I was hoping for more spices or sauces to bring out the flavor. It was worth giving it a shot, but I won't be returning.

The food was so good! The service was spectacular! We are definitely fans! We did have a Groupon, which is prompted us to try it in the first place, but we would definitely come back! My bf got the Arroz del Pacifico Sur, which he loved and I got Arroz con Pato which was really good! His dish was basically seafood (calamari, shrimp & clams), rice and some amazing spices and mine was duck confit with rice and cilantro sauce. There were so many amazing looking dishes on the menu that honestly, it was hard to choose. We agreed that next time we go back, we're just going to get a bunch of apps so we can try a lot of different stuff. The dishes are not what I would call inexpensive - his dish was 18.95 and mine was 19.95. But I felt that it was fair given the serving sizes and the quality of the food as well as the atmosphere. We both left full and with the leftovers - enough for our lunches the next day. Bottomline: a great place for a delicious dinner!

Really dissapointed with our last visit. We ordered the same thing we always get but this time with a coupon we purchased. I can't stand restaurants that don't properly honor these deals. Our order of ceviche was so ridiculously small it was straight insulting. We ordered it to go so we could sit at Final Gravitys patio. We were adiment about to go silverware. We sit down, no silverware. Had to ask FG for some. They were happy to oblige. They also happen to mention why they (FG), stopped carrying the LA Juaca menu. What they said made sense. They just don't care. If you haven't eaten here before, its very good but very expensive. They definetly take their customers for granted. Hope it was worth it La Juaca, you just lost a customer.

Went here for the first time on Friday night. We made a reservation through OpenTable and were seated promptly. I work at a restaurant, so I was paying close attention to every detail. In the special requests we mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday and they even brought balloons to our table, sang happy birthday, and gave us a free dessert. The staff was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. I wish I could remember the name of our server because he was great! The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the Lomo Saltado. Great experience!

Really enjoy La Huaca for dinner. We have been a few times and each time we have had excellent food and happy staff. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It is quiet enough that you can actually hold a conversation while having dinner, unlike so many restaurants. Give it a shot and try something out of the ordinary. Can certainly highly recommend the salmon dinner, fantastic! We will be back, again and again.

Fantastic service! The food was beautifully prepared. Can't wait to come back here! We let our server pick everything- from the Yucca Rellenos, Ceviche, Lamb dish, Paella, Beef dish. Too full to move! Waiting now for the dessert sampler!

    (5)
  • Pal T.

Food was overall mediocre and a little bit pricey. The paella was salty. The lamb dish was a little bit salty but very tender. They wouldn't give us the free glass of wine by checking in on yelp because it was mother's day (they had one free sangria for mothers). The offer on yelp didn't mention excluding mother's day.

Hello La Huaca....I have been trying to drag my husband here for months and finally we made it. His words "this is bomb". Seriously amazing food and service. Brenda was our server and she was friendly and knowledgeable and had great suggestions. But the food....oh the food....we started with the anticuchos tres especies and then I had the fettuccine Huaca y lomo and my husband had the pollo saltado. Mine was best because I always pick best I recommend the house Malbec from Peru as well. It was perfect with the Filet for sure. We will be back!!

Just enjoyed our 3rd dinner at this thriving La Huaca Peruvian Restaurant. All evening the service was prompt, attentive and friendly. Our waiter was knowledgeable and gave helpful answers to our meal and wine questions. Food: Five Stars! Could not have been more delicious. Entres enjoyed: Arroz con Pato (duck confit); Arroz Del Pacifico Sur (Peruvian paella); Salmon Del Sur; and our birthday girl ordered Camarones Entre Lima y Pisco (shrimp in a light wine & lime juice with vegies over fettuccini). All 4 of us ate 2/3 of our entrée and brought the rest home, because we knew we were ordering desserts (so we saved a bit on our appetite). Desserts: we ordered the 4 dessert sampler Delce Aventura Peruana, and Suspiro de Limena (merengue with caramel), and since we were such a pleasant, fun group (I guess) celebrating a birthday our waiter brought out a complimentary slice of Chirimoya Peruvian cheesecake and sang "Happy Birthday, dear Marcia" with us. Yes, it is a bit pricy, but excellent food, creative varied menu, great service, clean & warm environment all comes at a justifiable price. This is our special occasion go-to restaurant.

This is such an interesting place, with great Peruvian food. I've enjoyed lunches and dinners here, but this review is for their Happy Hour. All the menus selections are great, Ceviches, causas, and anticuchos are my favorites. Ceviche is prepared with large chunks of marinated fish. The marinade was so good our group joked about getting a doggy bag for the marinade, since no fish was left!! Our server Ismael ensured our group of five was well cared for. We were surprised to realize we had lingered there for over 3.5 hours, while he kept us fed and wined. This is a great choice for good food, good drinks, good service and quiet enough to enjoy the company of your friends.

Was so impressed with the food. Came here twice in 7 day period. This review is 3 months old btw. First Timers to Peruvian food. Lets just start off the decor is unique, I like it alot! Pros: Staff is super friendly, knows everything on the menu. I asked about 10 different dishes, the first time I went. She was patient, and answered all my questions. For starters: The Causas are amazing! $8-$13 [It's similar to a potatoe salad but way tastier] I dont know what they are supposed to taste like, but that it was delicious!!! I don't eat octopus or shrimp, so I tried the: limena, de vegetales, de escabeche de pollo. My fav was the limena :] For entre: Fettuccini a la crema de pesto con churrasco. Sounds fancy, but its just Fettuccini with pesto & thin cut grilled beef. $20. The pasta with pesto were on point! But beef was a little chewy. My sister got the Seco de cordero con frijoles, $22, which is baked lamb, with rice & beans. She like it. The meat was super tender, fall off bone type. Rice & bean was delicious. Couple days I realized they did lunch with lunch specials & there was a yelp deal. So we went back with a couple of friends. I forgot what the deal was but it was something like $20 for $35. The deal is per table, not per person. Its cool. Ordered the causas again, sampler this time. Still amazing as was last time. We got 1. Fettuccini a la iluancaina, delicious, to me it tasted like a take, blackened chicken with a delicious cheesy pasta, almost like mac n cheese. $12 2. Jalea de Pescado, best fish & chips ever. I think it was halibut & calamari. $12 Oh and I forgot the BREAD & HERB OIL or Butter whatever is was, IS THE BEST THING EVER everrrr! Not exaggerating either. And lastly dessert, it wasn't my favorite. We got the sampler. $13. Dont remember which ones we specifically didnt like. But I just remembered it being super sweet. (just my opinion) Bill turned out to be a disaster, for the yelp deal, our fault for not mentioning that we are splitting the bill. After a lot charging here and there, refunding, then recharging the cards, after so much confusion, the another server figured it out. Thank goodness for her. She WAS AMAZING, and calm!

I don't know about you but I had multiple bad experiences with this place. My girlfriend convinced me to try groupon for the first time in my life, and why not spend money on a local smaller mom and pop type restaurant and give them our support right? WRONG. 50$ worth of food for 30$ was the groupon deal. I called in an order for the entire family, which totaled at about 80$, so essentially with the groupon I would be spending 60$. When I walked in our food was already bagged up and sitting in the front (for who knows how long) only to have the lady tell me that the groupon is unusable unless we "dine in", (even though I told her I had it over the phone before I came in to pick up the food and even before I placed my order) in a good business practice a person would do anything to try and keep your business and would do anything to try and help accommodate you even if there was a mistake made with the groupon, but my family was already waiting on the food back at home so I decided to pay the total 80$ but before I could leave the lady said she had to check something in the back and would return to complete the transaction in a moment. She literally vanished for nearly ten minutes, the entire time I was considering walking out, taking the food without paying, or asking them to re make our meals since they were more than likely cold, after reappearing from the back much later she said "ok looks like everything is already finished" (meaning she had me sit at the front staring at my already finished cooling food for almost 10 probably so she could run to the back and take a dump or something), so I paid, re heated our food at home and that was that. About 5 months later my girlfriend suggested we use that groupon or it would expire (I did not want to return because of the first bad experience mixed with the unforgiving attitude and the cold food). Yet still we got dressed up, and prepared to dine in on a Friday night. When we showed up we were greeted by the same lady from the first time (I believe she is the manager or owner or the owners wife). We showed her the same groupon and told her about the problem from last time and asked if we would be able to use it as long as we dined in and she said "yes, you just show it to the waiter when you are ready to pay". We were seated at our table, ordered appetizers, drinks, sat and talked for a bit, then when our waiter came to take our order my girlfriend decided to ask the waiter how to use the groupon, if we just show it to him at the end and he scans it or what? He then told us "oh sorry that thing is only good Monday-Thursday" and that we would have to come back Monday if we wanted to use it. As we stood up to be turned away with our groupon (for a second time) the waiter said to me "sir you still need to order your dinner" as to which I said "dude the rules about this groupon thing keep changing, and despite my returning business you guys keep turning us away with bad business ethics". He then said to me "well hopefully we see you again on Monday so you can use your groupon (mind you I have never used groupon in my life and had already bought food from la Huaca 3 times prior each time paying upwards of 100$). The manager asked us as we walked out "what happened?" And we told her "well even though you told us our groupon is good, the waiter is saying it's only good Monday-Thursday, she smiled and said "ok thank you for coming to la Huaca see you soon :-)" and walked away. Again if they cared to actually keep your business and get good reviews and carry a respectable reputation, they would bend some rules once and a while especially for returning customers in order to accommodate... Forget this place, good food doesn't mean crap if you have terrible customer service and bad business practice. La Huaca? More like LA CACA. I'm just glad the appetizers weren't on the table before we got kicked out or else I'm sure they would have tried to force me to pay for that too.

Came here on a whim as my daughter needed some cultural credits for high school and was on one of the restaurants listed to try, 1st the friendliness was superb, from hostess to busboy to server, though it was friday night and crowded we were seated almost immediately, service was fast, portions were huge and flavors to good to explan, this is NOT a mexican restaurant with a flashy name and a couple fancy dishes, it is all Peruvian dishes that are just amazing, we had seafood, beef, chicked and pork dishes and everyone loves the, the pic of me well thats pork, chicked and beef and is as great as it looks, no comment on desert yet as we were so full we ordered the tres Leches to take home, give it a try if you are looking for something different you will not be disappointed and we will definitely be back

Service and ambiance was nice, however the food was not very good. I grew up in South America and know how Peruvian food is supossed to taste. The Yuca appetizer tasted nothing like yuca. Perhaps they used some pre-made yuca powder....I don't know, but it didn't have the texture nor the flavor of real yuca. The lomo saltado, which is advertised as tenderloin, was chewy and the seasoning was just very basic. A chewy meat dish with French fries should not cost $20. Def. something I could make at home. The salad was ok. Lots of cheese and mushroom, some tomatoes and artichoke. Sounded really good, but it was not memorable. I didn't get the Peruvian influence at all. Sadly I will not going back.

Excellente! Delicioso! Maravilloso! I've been wanting to try this unique and well-received restaurant for quite a while, but I was hesitant only because I have a digestive disorder that doesn't take kindly to certain foods and spices. Today, I threw caution to the wind and ate an early dinner there with my mom. So, so, so very delicious! And, I found I had a good handful of choices for my situation. The one I chose not only went well with my condition (no troubles at all), but my taste buds went wild. The talented chefs at La Huaca know how to introduce and present Peruvian cuisine in the very best way and with excellet service. Now I want to take my husband and go there again, and again, and again!

Friendly staff, great food, and nice specials! We happened to go on Wednesday, 30% off wine, nice! Tastes just like in Peru! Great flavors you can't get at any other restaurant around! Cozy atmosphere, quiet, but they put the baseball game on at the bar- which is fun! Highly recommended!

At other Yelper's recommendations, I ordered the Lomo Saltado during lunch. The tenderloin was very juicy and good. It wasn't ridiculously memorable, but yes, good. It came with vegetables, fries and rice. The vegetables & fries were also good but pretty run of the mill. That brings me to the rice. The RICE. Ok, let me say I've never really liked rice. It's whatever. I always thought that was the nature of rice -- to be, meh, whatever... ya know, rice. Yet for some reason their rice is the best tasting rice I have ever had. I didn't know rice could possibly be so good. I had to ask what they do to their rice to make it so good. The server told me they steam it. No, that is not the trick. There is some bit of magic he left out. I think about their rice all the time. I want more of it. It's bordering creepy how much I loved it. So with that said, if you aren't sure what to order, get some rice & you won't be disappointed. ha.

I really, really wanted to like this place, but our experience was mediocre, at best. We arrived early on a Tuesday evening, first customers. A nice gentleman, I assume is the owner, seated and served us. We ordered a classic ceviche, Salmon Del Sur, and their version of paella. The soft rolls and dipping sauce was fine. The ceviche was good, but not $16.50 good. Paella was just okay. The highlight of that dish was the tender pieces of octopus. But, the dish was a little oily, and salty. I picked out the seafood, left most of the rice. Worst was the salmon dish. The salmon was over cooked, and lukewarm. The stir fried veggies were room temperature. The service deteriorated later in the meal. A waiter showed up, was serving one table next to us. He walked by our empty water glasses 5 times. Meanwhile, the owner must have gotten busy and he didn't check on us for quite some time after we finished. A table he was serving was getting its order taken as a table that came in later was getting its entrees! The owner took 10% off the tab when we mentioned the problems with the salmon dish. Like I said, he seems like a good guy. Maybe we just hit an off-night. But, when you're spending $70 for a simple weekday meal, you're not likely to give a place a second chance.

I have tried this place and normally it is pretty good. I'm originally from Chile, so this is the closest I have to Chilean food. Today, the lomo saltado was extremely salty and after we complained to the waitress.. .she said that she told the kitchen and their response was they would make me a dish without salt. "I didn't want the dish without salt!" I just wanted the regular dish with normal amounts of salt. Again, I have tried this before, and it is normally ok. I'm disappointed they still charged me for my lunch. I barely ate it. Don't they try the good before thy sent it to the table. I can still taste the salt in my mouth. Not going back there again. I would rather drive to San Francisco to find good consistent Peruvian food.

Great food with a modern clean and lean ambiance. I loved the rolls with the chimichuri sauce. I ordered the Pata rice dish, which was duck leg and thigh over cilantro rice. The rice had peas and carrots which was very well seasoed. Marinated onions on the side which added a great flair. I had them bring a side of their pepper sauce which was great flavor but definitely a bite!! I will definitely go back and try something different. .

I can't say enough great things about this place. I love the food. I've tried the Arroz del Pacifico Sur and Arroz con Pato, both were excellent. The ceviches are delicious and fresh tasting. The service is top notch. It had taken me a while to visit La Huaca because of the location. It's in a strip mall and nothing really draws attention to it. Based on the businesses around it I thought it was going to be a super casual order at the counter establishment, but it's all table service but not stuffy. If you're looking for something different, food that really wakes up your mouth with new flavors, this is the place to go.

We had the most amazing experience this evening! We were welcomed by an amazing woman, Brooke, who became our server. We've never had Peruvian food before...... And were we in awe! The De Aji Amarillo ceviche was incredible......as was the Pescado a lo Macho and the Medallion de Lomo Salsa. Since we shared the Festival de Causes......we experienced some amazing flavors. Our experience was so much more memorable because of our wonderful server. She expertly shared her knowledge of the various dishes...... And navigated us blissfully from one course to the next. I cannot wait to bring more friends here. An unexpected pleasure-wow!!

We had a very tasty dinner at this Peruvian Restaurant. Four of us shared and enjoyed each and every dish. The Mixto Ceviche was soooo good and the Shrimp Causa was delicious. We will tell our friends and return as well. Thank you for being nearby :-)

Service during the day is slow. I come from southern California and have eaten lots of Peruvian meals at various restaurants in the LA and greater LA region. The food is not what I was expecting. it was alright but did not have the flavor I was used to.

Great find! Delicious, unique, friendly, uncrowded. Great waitress who helped us with menu recommendations. The hardest part was deciding! I don't think I've ever seen such a great assortment of Ceviche's on a menu! We tried one with shrimp, octopus and calamari. We couldn't decide on just one item each, so we decided to eat ate family style, sharing all the dishes. Everything was just delightful, the seafood Paella, Camarones entre Lima y Piso, a seafood dish and an amazing beef dish called Lomo Saltado. For dessert we had a custard, Suspiro de limena. We also tried the Pino Grigo from Peru and it was the perfect wine to pair with the meal. I'm so glad we gave this a try, and so excited to see the other positive reviews. Can't wait for our next trip here! There's a large room for groups, which was occupied with a group having a birthday party. The hostess passed out hats from Peru for everyone to wear. It was fun to see the peruvian culture being embraced and shared.

There is not much for Vegans or Vegetarians but the Peruvian Cuisine is very seafood based and therefore their menu is very authentic. They have always been friendly and open to helping me find something that I can eat though and I appreciate that. My mom was from Lima, Peru and so when this restaurant opened, you can imagine how excited we were to try it. They did not disappoint! The food has always been great and the service excellent. It says a lot to be able to appeal to typical Americans and someone who spent the first 30 years of her life there. My mom loved the food here! My mom's last birthday was celebrated at La Huaca and they treated her like a Peruvian queen. The staff went above and beyond to give my mom a very special celebration. We originally were not sure where to take her to celebrate and I am forever thankful that we choose to celebrate, what turned out to be her last birthday, here. They brought hats to the table, a special desert, they sang to her, helped us take photos, had no problem with us bringing a cake. It felt like we were with family and they made her feel special. I have to say, this was the kindest restaurant treatment of an elderly woman's birthday, that I could imagine. We had them cater her Celebration of Life several months later and once again, the food did not disappoint! Thank You La Huaca!

Everything was fantastic from the service to the meal! Really a treat to have such a quality restaurant so close to home. Our waiter was very charming and the wine pours are very generous! Truly a very enjoyable dining experience in Granite Bay, don't miss out!

Had a groupon deal I used a few months ago. This place is interesting. They are expensive as heck even with the GroupOn deal. Can't remember what I had but it was good and was different. Would I come here again? Sure if they lowered their prices. $20+ for dishes is a little expensive for a non upscale restaurant.

My lovely wife and I pulled into the parking lot to go to a deli, then we saw the sign and thought we would try it for lunch. We waited at the front to be seated but after a minute or two we just wandered in and a server said "Please sit anywhere." It was dark inside so we sat by a window. We decided to split a salad and to share some samplers. We had the Amazonas Salad which was good. Then we had a Festival de Causas sampler, Veggie, Octopus, Chicken, Shrimp, with sauce topping a yellow potato. Then we had Grilled Appetizers on skewers, Chicken, Beef, Mahi-Mahi fish. Then we finished with Dessert Sampler: Spicy pudding, Rice pudding, Caramel sauce, Peruvian ice cream. We thoroughly enjoyed the dishes and definitely plan to go back again soon.

I recently had lunch at La Huaca. It was my first time going there. I have heard many people say good things about the place and I concur. Excellent service, fresh hot food and nice environment inside. The thing that is the nicest is that the foods were familiar but unique. That is lots of ingredients like you would see somewhere else but combined slightly differently. Several gluten free items (noted on menu) as well as several spicy dishes (also noted on menu). Prices were reasonable. Nice big parking lot. Plus shares parking lot with Final Gravity and Nuyo so can grab a beer before a fro yo afterwards.

Yummmmmmy! Nice staff, quick food, and rich sauces paired with tender meats. What else can you ask for? Really think we will be going back OFTEN! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because although the dessert sampler was good it wasn't as spectacular as I was hoping for after such a great meal.

Delicious food! We ordered 4 dinners and 3 appetizers and everything was very good. Service was also excellent. I'm sorry I couldn't give this restaurant 5 stars as I feel they are overpriced considering the location and size of the restaurant. Don't buy the $25 for $20 as long as there is still a 10% discount available; that is the better deal unless you are dining alone.

I highly recommend La Huaca. I had the paella and it is on par with the ones I had in Spain. The flavor was right on and the shrimp and calamari were cooked to perfection. My friends had the lamb shank and fish in a very flavorful white sauce. The serving portions were large with all of us having leftovers.

  • Monica M.

Food was ok. We ordered various dishes to try including ceviche, which was good and some rice cornmeal dish not too tasty. We had the beef stew type dish which was alright served with small potatoes and rice. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was a bit pricey but good tasting. I won't rush back anytime soon I'd rather save my Peruvian cravings for San Francisco gems that are yummy.

We've been there a few times now and have yet to be disappointed. I keep going back to the ceviche, there are a half dozen or so varieties, and I've loved them all. Also, if you have a birthday make sure and let them know! They will definitely treat you right.

Wow..that's all I can say. 2nd time I've been here and pretty sure everything on the menu is amazing. By far the best restaurant in the area...if you like wine you have to try the Malbec, it's so smooth and delicious..it pairs well w just about anything but of course red meat. Ceviche is wonderful, the ceviche trio highly recommended. Anything w rice is also amazing. The trio appetizer w chicken, fish and steak - also amazing. Peruvian ice cream - wow. When it comes to food I'm a definite fat kid so trust me when I say you need to check this place out. Promise it is worth every penny! Like I said, pretty sure anything you get here, you will love. Definitely a must-try if you're looking for an amazing restaurant in Roseville...not to mention if you enjoy Peruvian food, this is a must!

Terrific beer, outstanding food and phenomenal service. Try the Ceviche trio, amazing flavors and artfully presented. Also try the ice cream (can't remember the name) that they fly in from Peru, so wonderful and perfect size for 2. Our waitress, Brook, made excellent recommendations and was so attentive. We will definitely be back.

Wonderfully peaceful, very attentive waiters and the food is fantastic! It takes some time for the main entrée to be created, but it is worth the wait! That's what dinner is suppose to be! The filet was flavorful, tender and the accompanying veggies perfect! Enjoy!

Honestly, we came here because we wanted the 1,000 points on OpenTable but, really enjoyed our dinner there. I saw an offer on Groupon or Living Social but, didn't get it and wasn't sure what we were in for except a co-worker told me that she went there for dinner with her husband and the food was good. With all of the choices on the menu it was hard to decide what to order especially since we never had Peruvian food before. Everything on the menu sounded good so, it was hard to decide what to order. We first had bread with chimichurri sauce. While I have had chimichurri sauce before I never had it on bread and it was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the salmon del sur which came with quinoa salad, artichoke hearts, and grilled tomatoes. The salmon was good with the chimuchurri sauce and the quinoa salad was good for the most part but, I did have a couple of bites that seemed a little too salty. Other, than that I enjoyed my dinner. Friend ordered the Fettuccini a la Crema de Pesto con Churrasco which sounds more like an Italian dish than something from South America. According to my friend though the dish tasted better than any similar dish that he had at an Italian restaurant. We will be going back and I definitely want to try some of the other dishes there along with some of the desserts. This may possibly be one of our new favorite places.

One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I reserved a tale through Yelp and told them that it was my birthday. The table was decorated nicely and I was given balloons, which was very generous of them. The hostess in the front was very accommodating and so funny, it was clear that she wanted to take care of the customers and treated us very sweetly. I ordered the Pescado a la Mocha (sp?) and it was fantastic! The sauce wasn't that spicy and had a little kick to it, the fish was expertly grilled and I loved the shrimp. The calamari was a little chewy, but I've never had non-battered calamari so I wasn't sure what it normally tastes like. Our server seemed a little awkward, but was a very sweet gentleman who took care of us. At the end they had me put on hat and sang "Happy Birthday", I always hate being sang too, but it was too lovely of a dinner to be unhappy. Desserts are always what I judge most on. We had the cheesecake and a caramel treat, not sure the name. The caramel dish was extraordinary and I was just in love. The cheesecake wasn't as fantastic, but still very good. Overall the whole ordeal was fantastic and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. For the two meals and two desserts we had a very inexpensive meal. Thank you La Huaca!!!

Six of us met for dinner the other night and had an absolute blast! The service was more than excellent. The food was unbelievable. The staff was very accommodating and helpful when some in our party had questions regarding dietary restrictions. Believe it or not, our 16-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son also raved about the food. We will definitely return for more.

Sucked... Does anyone know what they are eating here? Do they know what good Peruvian food is supposed to be like? It's a nice place with good service but the food is awful. Fish tastes muddy. The causa was super mushy all over; like no texture; just a glob of mayonnaise with oxidized avocado. The chicha morada (corn drink) was basically half sugar; you could've induced your own diabetes as you took a sip. They provide beautiful Peruvian cookbooks in the waiting area, displaying all this gorgeous delicious looking food, yet they don't deliver what they're advertising! I don't taste Peru at all! The food is way overpriced for the level of quality. It's a shame bc Peruvian food, when done correctly, is truly an amazing life changing experience. This is far from. Chef needs to step it up about 12 notches and crack the whip on himself and his staff... Tastes nothing like Peru! Rent is expensive in Roseville. This is just not how you'll generate $$ or run a business. You're feeding the customers garbage and charging them high end level prices. Go to Jimmy's Peruvian Restaurant. It's a dump but at least the food is solid and is fairly priced.

The service was great and the restaurant is very nice inside. Should have known better when we went in at 6:45 and there was only one other table seated. I am surprised by all the rave reviews here. I had never had Puruvian food before, so I decided to go with whatever the waiter told me was his favorite. I had the braised lamb which was really not that great. It's basically a crock pot nightmare that has been boiled to death and then smothered in gravy. My wife had a steak with a mushroom sauce that was pretty good, but overall with a table of 8, I think she was the only one that really liked her food.

My new favorite restaurant! I went for my birthday in December, and it was fantastic. From the service to the décor to the menu, everything was a sensory delight. The ceviche is fresh and flavorful, and the pasta was only surpassed in it's amazingness by the birthday dessert. Great date night place.

This is my 3rd or 4th time at this wonderful looking restaurant. The place is absolutely gorgeous and as a Peruvian I'm proud to have this restaurant to introduce my friends to the incredible Peruvian cuisine. The Cebiche sample platter was incredible. I have never tasted Mediterranean Cebiche and will definitely try it again. Do not go in there if you are tight on time. Our party got to restaurant when it first opened. We ordered appetizer and my plate right away. I made sure to let the waiter know I was on a time crunch. The appetizers got to our table about 30 minutes after we ordered. My Chicharron Sandwich arrived a whole hour later. I was late for my meeting and the restaurant was about 1/3 full.

I just finished lunch at La Huaca and I enjoyed it so much that I came right home to write my review. Not only was my lunch tasty but the service made me remember what amazing service should be. The restaurant is much larger that it had appeared from the outside. It's a large L shape with a long bar area in one half of the L. I really liked the decor - very clean and modern with splashes of bright colors. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious that I had a difficult time narrowing it down to one choice. I decided to go with a classic; the arroz con pollo. The servings were huge and the presentation was beautiful. My chicken was perfectly grilled, served over a large serving of flavorful rice with veggies mixed in and drizzled with a super tasty sauce. Although I wanted to finish the whole plate, all of that rice filled me up quickly so the waiter brought over and box and packed everything up for me, even offering to include the leftover bread :) After we paid the bill, the waiter brought over a tablet and asked if we wouldn't mind completing a short survey about our experience. I was happy to offer feedback and thought it was so great to see a restaurant making an effort to listen to what their customers want. As we were leaving, the waiter walked us to the door and thanked us for coming. He handed us a flyer with the happy hour menu - $4 appetizers, $4.50 wines and $1.50 beers! I will definitely be returning to take advantage of those deals soon. Stay tuned!

Didn't get to try it. They don't offer a lunch menu on Saturdays--only a much more expensive dinner menu at lunch time. Place was nearly empty, and it took a while before a server even came to help us.

A good Malbec. A delicious crispy appetizer. A scrumptious entree reminiscent of Mom's pot roast -- but with an exotic twist. A sweet, tangy and refreshing dessert to finish the evening. This was our La Huaca experience! We tried the cheese stuffed yuca (sp?). I had the tres carnes dinner. My husband had the chicken stew with rice. arrive hungry, and leave satisfied. My tres carnes dinner will stretch into lunch tomorrow. So moist were the three meats. Delicious sauce but not overpowering. The chicken stew came with very flavorful rice. Our cherimoya cheesecake was light and just right in size-- A sweet way to cap off the evening. We will definitely be back! I'm glad we found this place through Groupon. Didn't know it was there!

Ate dinner here the other night. The service was great they are attentive and friendly. Great menu with lots of Peruvian authenticity. I had the tres carnes - 3 meats chicken, pork and beef it was fantastic. Slow cooked with great flavor. Someone at my table had the lamb which was excellent. Portions are fairly large and they have some beer and wine choices from Peru and other parts of South America. The Malbec from Peru was very nice. Prices are $18 and up so you will probably spend some coin here. Great to try something new as there are not many Peruvian restaurants in town. This could be the only one? I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We went for a birthday dinner last night and loved the ambiance and food. My husband had the lamb and said it was the best he had ever had. I had the Aji de Gallina (chicken in sauce with rice) and it was so good. The flavor reminded me of chicken and dumplings in the best possible way. Our 17 year old daughter accompanied us and had the pesto pasta with steak. She said it was great. The sangria was fruit-filled and delicious. The service was flawless - quick, accurate, and friendly. La Huaca is a quiet, calm restaurant with some very cool decor, such as knotted ropes separating the dining room from the front of the restaurant. It's probably not the best place for young children. After not being so sure we'd like Peruvian food, we're now looking forward to going back!

Not knowing what to expect from a Peruvian restaurant, we were surprised at how upscale La Huaca was; we were sadly under-dressed (nobody seemed to mind). The menu had a wide variety of interesting dishes, many of which we'd love to go back and try. We had the causas sampler, which I did not expect to be served cold, but was delicious. The octopus was tender, the chicken with sauce delicious. My boyfriend had a beef dish that was so tender and flavorful, I wanted to steal it from his plate. We tried replicating it at home a few days later, but it wasn't even close. The atmosphere was lovely, and the service wonderful. We will be back with the rest of the family soon!

We had passed by La Huaca a few times during our jaunts to Roseville. I had never seen a Peruvian restaurant in Sacramento and was intrigued and curious to try it. As luck would have it we had found a Groupon and decided to do lunch there. The first thing I noticed when I walked into this place was how minimal yet well put together the decor was, it gave the place a classy, yet warm vibe. We were greeted by a friendly and very professional looking waiter, we were seated and given our menus. The kind waiter saw that the menu looked a bit foreign to us and took the liberty of highlighting some of the menu items. Again he was very pleasant and professional, always referring to me as sir and my girlfriend as miss, not something I need for a dining experience, but it was pleasant and added to the classy vibe of the place and as I always say, friendly service is always a huge plus for me. We took a look at the menu and found many different and enticing looking entrees. They had 5 different kinds of ceviche which was interesting, I had no idea you could make ceviche so many different ways! We didn't end up trying any ceviche, but the causas caught our eye and we ordered the sampler of the 5 different causas and I had order something called Seco con frijoles. My Spanish isn't great, but I found this dish interesting because that translates to "dry with beans"! The waiter took our order and shortly thereafter we received our meal. First off the presentation of the Causas was beautiful, there were cubes of yellow mashed potatoes topped with the different ingredients of the different kinds of causa. One was topped with chicken, one with avocado, one with shrimp, and one topped with Octopus. Now I know I don't like squid, but I was feeling saucy and gave the Octopus a try, it was actually pretty good as were the rest of the causas. Another interesting part about the causas was they were served cold, with was kind of a surprise for us, but didn't detract from the dish whatsoever. As for the Seco (It's a beef dish) that I ordered, it was anything but dry, it was actually moist, flavorful and tender. I would learn later on that they call it Seco because they dry the meat a bit before stewing it to make it more tender, and boy was it tender! The rice it was nested on had wonderful texture, and usually I'm not a huge fan of pinto beans, but the ones that came with this meal were very good! Over all this place is a great place to go for a nice dinner out with family or a date night. We felt a little under dressed when we went, but the service was stellar just the same. This was the first time I had Peruvian cuisine and I loved it. Definitely worth a visit if you'r looking for something interesting and different!

Great food. I mean the quality overall is great. The ambiance is welcoming and relaxing. Peruvian music is always playing, which is flutes and guitars mostly. Had the Lomo, I would say this one was different in that it was all separated. If you've tried Lomo elsewhere you'd know that the beef and fries are all mixed. Here they served it separate. Good deserts too. No better peruvian in Sacramento. 4 stars for it being a bit pricey. $19.95 per entree

Located in a strip mall plaza. Beautiful restaurant. I kinda felt odd being there for happy hour.. I think of happy hour and I think sociable and communal settings.. We sat at a table to ourselves and I didn't mind at all. I just felt like a broke ass asking for Happy Hour specials but it wasn't imparted by service or anything. Just my own brain. Happy Hour: Monday-Friday, 3pm-6pm. Food and drink specials. Flipped through the regular menu.. Man, it's a little steep. We had a few things for happy hour and it was like getting little tasters of what they had to offer. Enough to taste to say yeah, I liked this and that and recognized I would come back even without the specials.. Before we left, we were handed a couple pieces of paper. It turned out to be an article on them by the Sac Bee and the other was a coupon to return. My favorites thus far: Medditeraneo Ceviche and Tres Leches.

Went here with my girlfriend today. I had the Carne Seco which was horrible. The beef was ultra low grade almost like a chuck roast which was cooked in an oven for 8 hours then thrown on a plate with some sauce over top. The beans had been simmering about 4 hours too long. It was seriously one of the worst lunches I have ever had. My girlfriend got the Mediterranean cerviche and it was small and lacking flavor. Honestly go to a good taqueria and get two or even three cerviche tostadas and you would be much better off

Finally got around to eating here.Had a lovely dinner here with my cousin & his wife.He has been to Peru so was excited to try it as well.I had a Peruvian Pilsner {CUSCUENA} and they had Chica Marada { a purple corn non-alcoholic drink.} It tasted very interesting. Enjoyed the Yucas a La Huacaina appetizer, yucas stuffed with Mozzarella. cheese and breaded, fried and served with Marinara sauce.I ordered the Camarones entre Lima Y Pisco { fettuccine with Shrimp & vegetables} very good. They got the Arroz con Pato { duck confit } & Arroz del Pacifico Sur {Peruvian Paella} .Both were excellent dishes. The service was 4 star & the Owner was very gracious. We will be back very soon. Please give this cuisine a try.

This place was a big disappointment. I was hoping for a great Peruvian restaurant that is close to home but left wanting. I was craving authentic Anticuchos, they don't have them on the menu. They have them made out filet, chicken and fish. My whole family was craving alfajores too, but they don't have those on the menu either. The food was too pricey (not even the restaurants in San Francisco charge that much) and the food was ok. We had the Lomo Saltado that was bland but made from filet mignon. Maybe that's why it was priced so high but for that price I would expected it to have more spices. We also had the pesto spaghetti served with completely unseasoned steak. The place is really fancy and they have a ceviche bar. But for this Peruvian, I will not return. The dishes didn't reminded me of the motherland at all. I still gave them three stars because the servers were attentive and the place was clean.

La Huaca restaurant is one of those treasures hidden in an unflattering location (in a small shopping center). From the outside it looks somewhat prepossessing. But once you walk in, the elegant decor and sumptuous aromas draw you in. The service is excellent, the attention to detail quite so, and the food is a fine representation of traditional and fusion Peruvian cuisine. I am originally from Peru and have had the good fortune to find many Peruvian restaurants in California. This is by far, the top of the list. I've been here twice and have been overly pleased. A visit here will most definitely elicit a memorable experience. Much recommended.

Based on a recommendation from some friends a group of us (8) decided to try La Huaca. As only 2 of us had Peruvian cuisine in the past, this was a new experience. Given the overall experience, the service and the quality of the food, I am sure we will be returning with some regularity to try more. Relying on our server for assistance in ordering, we had quite a variety of food. The appetizers were amazing and each entree was better than the next. A terrific experience well worth a trip and a great value, a combination that can't be beat!

My wife and I enjoyed a superb anniversary dinner here on a weekday evening. The restaurant was uncrowded and had a nice casual atmosphere. Everything we ordered was very tasty and well prepared. The price points are higher end, but so is the food and experience, so it's definitely worth it for a special occasion.

Fabulous service! Great food. First time we went here we weren't sure what to order or expect. We asked the waiter for some suggestion and he was very willing to provide for us. We all tried something different, and having a vegetarian with us she had lots of options to choose from as well. Everything was so tasty and fresh. We had ceviche for appetizers it was so flavorful and light. Owner even came by to talk with us and our experience. He was so wonderful Great live music playing set the ambience for our dinner. A must try if your looking for something new. Enjoy!

First time at the restaurant, because we wanted to try some Peruvian food. We went for dinner on a Saturday evening and were greeted promptly and seated. There were many other customers here, but the service was still quick (at first). We ordered the Clasico Ceviche, the Limena Causa, and the Limo Saltado. The food was very good. The ceviche and causa were excellent. The Limo Saltado was good too, but the beef was a little dry inside. Still, the food overall was great. So why just 3 stars? Although the food was good, it is a bit pricey for what you actually get. Still, I wouldn't mind that too much. The part that really lowered La Huaca's rating was that after we finished the meal, the service really went downhill. By this time, the restaurant wasn't busy anymore as many of the other customers had finished their meals and left. Still, even after a server came by and boxed the leftovers, it took almost half an hour before they would come by and close off the check. Our server didn't come by until after 20 minutes. At that time, I presented a Yelp deal, $20 for $25, that I had purchased upon entering the restaurant (didn't know it was available until looking up the reviews on Yelp to decide what to order). The server acted like they did not want to accept the Yelp deal, and said it was only for Monday through Thursday, and only for certain hours of the day. It was not in the fine print, and NO WHERE on the Yelp deal did it mention anything about day/hour restrictions. I asked the server where this was mentioned. I would have been fine with not using it and using it another day, but he couldn't find where it was mentioned either. He took my phone to the back and took another 10 minutes before he came back with the bill, saying they would honor it anyway. Seriously, it was only to save $5. By this time we were looking to just get out of there after that long wait. If I would have known it was that much trouble, I wouldn't even have bothered to purchase the deal, and would have eaten here anyway. Really though, it was mentioned no where on the deal about any restrictions of that type. La Huaca should just settle that with Yelp if they're that picky about it. That experience just left a bad taste in my mouth, even after the good food. Because of it, I don't know if I'll be back or not, and I would just have to give La Huaca an "average" rating. A total of 30 minutes is just way too long to wait after finishing a meal to close out a check.

The ahi amarillo sauce is excellent. Pesto well done. Would have given 5 stars but the food came out cool and had to be redone. Once done came out great.

3.5-4 Stars Food was fantastic. My friend, fiance and I ate dinner here last night. Our waitress was very friendly and we each started off with a Peruvian beverage. Then we ordered the Ceviche Mixto which was good. For entrees we ordered the Seco de Cordero con Frijoles (lamb) the meat fell off the bone and everyone enjoyed this dish. The beans that came with it was delicious as well. Also we ordered the Arroz Chaufa, a fried rice dish that was so yummy! We ate these dishes family style because the portions were large. Although this place is delicious and the large portions make it possible to share, it is a bit pricey. We took advantage of the yelp deal 20.00 for 30.00 worth of food but the total bill was still around 60.00 I think originally it was close to 90.00 Over all, good experience. Good food. A bit on the pricey side.

We were invited to this place by some friends, thus made the trek from midtown, to the burbs for dinner. Located in a strip mall with few other businesses open, except a frozen yogurt place next door, it was quite the opposite of where we would expect to find a decent restaurant. Once inside, we were pleasantly surprised. The dining area was clean and nicely appointed with traditional Peruvian symbols. Ropes with knots, the ancient counting method, woven wool blankets and drawings of the animal symbols carved into the Peruvian landscape and only visible from the sky. Traditional Peruvian music was being performed by a soloist, playing various wind instruments, making for a pleasant ambiance. The service was superb from the moment the owner opened the front door, greeting us. We were seated once all of our party had arrived and the only disappointment was that they only had beer and wine, thus the Pisco sour I had been thinking of, eluded me. They had the lie alcohol version, which was okay-but I was looking forward to the real thing. They had a nice assortment of Peruvian beer though and again, in what has become a bit rare, our server really guided us on drink and menu selection, despite being very young (below legal drinking age). She answered all questions I had about the menu and guided me into a delicious civiche, while my wife ordered a rice dish with clams, shrimp and calamari. We shared and really enjoyed both dishes. I would have liked to have had a mixture of fin and shellfish in this particular civiche, it had only Mahi, but it was very fresh and there were other menu options for civiche that had a mix, I just wanted the Aji Amarillo chile sauce. The menu had a nice variety of options, and portion sizes were large by our standards. We love spending our $$ at family owned operations, as being in the business, I know how hard they work. I'm quite certain our young waitress was the owners daughter. I would definitely go back and despite what we think of as an odd location, (not used to strip mall dining) I would recommend them without hesitation. Seek out this little gem, tucked away in a strip mall. You may be surprised, as we were!

You don't have to like Peruvian food to go here; just like good food!!! My wife had the lamb and I had a fish dish. We also had two appetizers. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The decor is nice and the restaurant is clean and inviting. The staff is friendly and helpful. We will return.

We love the food and the service here. Victor was awesome. We told him what we liked and he made a great suggestion that's not on the menu yet. Amazing food and an amazing dining experience like you've never had before!

Funny how something can change your opinion quickly. Tonight for V day my lovely girlfriend Liza and I dined at our favorite Peruvian food in Roseville. We unfortunately were late to our 8pm reservation. And California law still doesn't allow you to use your Verizon cellphone while driving. When we finally arrived with money. Instead of its a pleasure to have you. I received a lecture for being late and a snarl. Don't be late to this restaurant.

Came here for dinner with a friend Friday night. Made a reservation for 830pm. Got there and it was completely empty! No reservations needed at all! The waitor was extremely friendly and helpful though. The complimentary rolls with the chimichurri sauce was delish!. As a starter we ordered the Festival de Causas. I remember seeing a picture of it on yelp and it looked amazing. I was not impressed with the taste. It was cold. It reminded me of frozen mashed potatoes cut up in squares and topped with different meats and sauces. My friend had their Salmon de Sur. Presentation was beautiful. Too bad it didn't taste like how it looked. She shared a piece of her salmon and I couldn't even finish it. The flavors was different and definitley not fresh. They obviously didn't warm it up all the way. OMG i swear it was kind of cold still in the middle! I had their Lomo Saltato. It was like pieces of grilled beef tenderloin and french fries. I had two pieces of the meat and shared the rest with my friend. She seem to like my food more than hers. Our bill came and it was like $70 for two pple!! I'm glad i purchaced that $30 for $20 deal on yelp, but still it was pricey!! Not sure if i would go back for dinner, but maybe Happy Hour though.

The lamb was extremely tender and delicious - think .... Falling off the bone. Malbec is a great wine paring w the lamb. Ceviche was tender and fresh. Menu has a lot of interesting dishes to explore and live flute on Friday night. Worth the $$!

We were in town visiting family and went here for my birthday. I had the BEST dinner! Tremendous authentic Peruvian food - stop by here and treat yourself if you are even close to the Sacramento area! Savory menu filled with so many choices. Huge fan of the Camarines Entre Lima y Pisco, Fettuccini a la Crema de Pesto con Churrasco and my personal favorite the Medallón de Lomo con Salsa de Champiñones y Pastel de Papa!! Oh my goodness yummy! Great flavors and not spicy. Atmosphere was incredible, we were celebrating a birthday and the service was excellent and the traditional birthday hats was just a fun end to the evening! We will be going back next time we are in town! Memorable evening with amazing food!! Gluten Free Menu is also available! Huge plus for our family!

You deserve to eat here! The food is delicious. We enjoyed a small ceviche which was ample. My husband loved the lamb shank which was flavorful and literally fell off the bone. I had the beef soltado which was also very nice. Just wish we had more people in our party so we could have tasted some of the other dishes. Our waiter, Octavio, offered very good service and answered all of our questions about the Peruvian cuisine. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has a good feeling about it. We plan to return here soon! Los vemos temprano! See you soon!

I came here for dinner with my coworkers on a business trip which means six different people to please, and I've gotta tell ya, that this place got us 6 for 6! Somehow we ended up all ordering the same main dish, which reduced our variety, but we also had ceviche and ice cream and we loved it all! We are glad to be staying in Roseville another week so that we can come back to try more!

I found this restaurant through OpenTable and we decided to give it a try. The restaurant had really cool artwork and we were greeted warmly by the host. We went during lunch time and we were seated promptly. I had the Lomo Saltado (which was the most common food ordered) and my husband had the Seco con Frijoles. Both entrees were excellent! The rice that came with my meal reminded me of a Filipino style garlic fried rice and I couldn't get enough of it. The meat was really tender and the fries were really good. I didn't taste my husband's food but he finished it. A cousin of mine told me to try out the pisco sour. I had the passion fruit version and it was really tasty. I'm so glad we're finally getting a wide variety of ethnic food in our area. This one is highly recommended. I would totally go back again.

Me and siblings were not to sure about where to take our mom for dinner for Mother's day since usually every single restaurant in town gets crowded and the waiting times are ridiculous. Long story short i found this place through yelp and thanks to the reviews we decided to go here. My mom is a very picky person specially at restaurants but she LOVED every single dish we ordered. Her favourite was the pulpo al olivo! it was tasty and fresh! I would totally recommend this place for people that have never tried peruvian food. Great Service and great good!

My first time here. Easy to find. Nice building and ambiance. Had the Ceviche Mixto, made of delicious fish, a couple of shrimp, pieces of octopus and nice calamari. This is a cold dish cooked in lemon (or lime?), nice strips of onions, something similar to garbanzos but better, crunchy toasted corn and two slices of sweet potatoes ($14.95). Next time I will order only the fish (my preference). Had a singer/guitarist on Saturday night. The menu is extensive and enticing, so I expect many repeat visits.

Came in for a friends birthday and was warmly greeted and seated. The friendly service would be a constant throughout the evening. The only drawback was they were out of a few drinks and menu items. I wanted to order the Pisco Sour drink and a starter of Crema Andina soup but both were out. Switched gears and got an appetizer of "Yucas a La Huancaína" with a spicy huancaina sauce. The best way to desrcibe this dish is think of the best tater tot ever with mozzarella inside and a spicy cheese sauce for dipping. Fricking amazing!!! For my entree I ordered the "Tacu Tacu de Mariscos" which is Calamari and Shrimp sautéed in a homemade Peruvian Pisco liquor sauce served with criollo rice and white imported Peruvian Lima beans. The shrimp was cooked beyond perfectly. The beans and rice were well seasoned and sopped up the delicious sauce. After dinner they brought out these Peruvian birthday hats for pictures. Perfect service, perfect food, perfect evening.

It's like we took a trip to Peru. The server/host Ismael was so helpful in navigating the menu. We started off with a glass of Malbec each; a bold red wine that wasn't too heavy. Then, Ismael recommended the lamb shanks. I do not normally eat lamb, but took a gamble. I have to say that melted in my mouth and big my husband and I tasted flavors we have never experienced before. My husband had the mixed meat plate and was also very happy with his choice. Do not miss out on the fried potatoes with mozzarella cheese and the dessert sampler. We live over an hour away, but will be back me t time we want to get away.

I have been to La Hauca for lunch and dinner at least 10 times. It is one of my wife and mines favorite local restaurant. We are a couple of foodies and have traveled to some of the best restaurants in the world. La Hauca is a true gem. The Seco de Cordero con Frijoles is to die for, the Lomo Saltado is out of this world and you have to try the Fettuccine a La Huancaina y Lomo Anticuchero or the Fettuccine a la Crema de Pesto con Churrasco. Everything we have ever tried has been delicious. The only complaint I would have is the Peruvian wine is more expensive than the Argentinean. I would probably drink the Peruvian if it were priced right.

La Huaca is my favorite lunchtime spot! The service is great, the food is delicious, and the decor is inviting. If you're not familiar with Peruvian food, the causes are delicious but they are served cold, which is typical for this dish. I love this place--I've dined there several times.

Great Peruvian restaurant tucked away in a suburban strip mall. The food and service are excellent, even by San Francisco standards! We ordered the vegetarian causa, regular ceviche, and fried rice. Oh and a beer and a glass of wine. It's very reasonably priced and our server was very friendly and accommodating. We'll be back when we're in the area next!

Service was good. Decor was great. I ordered Causas, the chicken one. It literally taste like potato salad with chicken salad on top. Like exactly. It was even cold and mayonnaisey. I wish the menu would have said that these dishes were cold. Also, we (husband and i) ordered the cheapest items on the menu, no appetizer, no drinks, and no dessert and spent $26. Too much for a pile of potato salad. If this is what Peruvian food is like, it's not for me.

I don't really care if this is "real" Peruvian food or not. I figure if you want "real" ethnic cuisine, you're going to go "there". I certainly wouldn't hate on a place just because it didn't my definition of "real" cuisine - I'd judge it on the merits of the food. That said, I've been there twice, and been overwhelmingly happy both times. I got a ceviche sampler the first time which was really good, but then blown away by their Lomo Saltado. This is a marinated beef dish with tomatoes, rice, and french fries (carb fest, yes, but you can order salad or veggies instead). The flavors were intense and very tasty. The french fries were in a class by themselves (and I'm a picky fry eater). The portion size was in the extreme value range as I took half of it home and had it for a meal the next day. There's not too many $12 plates at a restaurant that you can do that with. I found the service very attentive both times. I'll definitely be back.

I went there really hoping to love it. I didn't. Everything was just okay. There were a couple of dishes that were beautifully presented and then others that looked like they were just thrown on a plate. It seemed odd since for the most part, this place carries a nice clean ambiance. As much as I like the decor and the idea of Peruvian so close to home. The food just didn't do anything for me. Staff was nice. I give it 2.5 stars but seeing some of the other reviews makes me think of going back and giving them another try.

The dishes are between $18 and $25. You'll definitely spend over $30 if you get a beverage. Appetizers are around $10. The portions of the entrees are generous but none of the three dishes we tried had much taste, I've had much better peruvian food in other cities. It definitely wasn't worth the price.

I returned to La Huaca with my boyfriend for my birthday dinner and again, fabulous food and service. They found out it was my birthday while I was there and decorated the table. They took photos of us in cute little hats that they had. It was nice and not over the top. We tried all new dishes this time not because we didn't like what we got last time ( we loved it all) but just because we wanted to explore the menu. We ordered Chicharrón de Cerdo for an appetizer. I think I like the Anticuchos Tres Especies we got last time better but it was still DELICIOUS! For dinner my boyfriend ordered Salmon del Sur which he loved! It was a fresh and light meal. I ordered Aji de Gallina which was amazing as well. It had a lot of sauce which I loved but definitely not as light as the salmon. They gave us a free dessert and sang happy birthday to me but I'm really not sure what the dessert was. I didn't really care for it, it tasted like alcohol. I think it was Suspiro de Limeña after looking at the menu and photos later. (I am not including this in my 5 star review because I didn't order it, it was on the house). Ambiance was nice and mellow. It's a casual place but I would say its not super kid friendly. There aren't many mild dishes for kids and the atmosphere is calm. We definitely didn't need a reservation for a Tuesday night. On the other hand, I see that it has become more popular so you might want to get one on the weekend if you don't like to wait. I will definitely be back!

My first time at this Peruvian restaurant. There were 8 of us for a friend's birthday. The wait staff were very friendly and patient with us since we were so busy catching up we didn't order for awhile. I wish I knew the exact names of what we ordered but everything was incredible! My entree was the Lamb and it was to die for. Highly recommend this place. All of us ordered something different and not a single person was disappointed. They serve beer and wine only which didn't bother me but may bother others. Can't think of a reason to knock down their star rating. Great food and great service...a must try.

My second visit was as wonderful as the first. The wait staff are personable, efficient but not too 'in your face.' I'd made reservations and when I gave the hostess my name, she knew how many and led me immediately to our table. The bread tastes home-made and the pesto sauce to dip it into, was simply delightful. The ceviche is awesome - and this is from someone who doesn't, as a general rule, eat much fish. And the beef pasta dish was excellent. Savory. It isn't spicy, or hot, but just a delightful blend of herbs and spices. I will go again when my wallet can sustain the hit. The one 'down-side' was the price. Dinner for 2: 2 main dishes, 1 salad, 2 glasses of wine was over $80. But the place was full on a Monday evening. Maybe I'll try lunch next time!

Our first visit was last night. We had Brooke has our waitress. She was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the food, gave us some great recommendations. Service was impeccable and the food that we ordered was fresh, delicious, and we will most assuredly return for more items on this menu. The peruvian cuisine, if you have not had it, is a must try.

We really liked this place. Gave a different feel from the usual - in a great way. We ordered several dishes - including seafood - which was fresh and delicious. Service fast and professional. We will go back again. The purple drink was interesting, decent, and kind of a must-do if you are there - pretty sweet, but not bad. I don't understand some of the negative reviews - which seem ridiculous. If you want to stuff yourself with giant portion sizes go to a chain; if you want well prepared food, it isn't going to show up in 5lb aliquots delivered in a trough. Complaints such as "my free wine was open too long . . . feh" seem over the top. If you are looking for a change of pace and decent food - this place works. This was a fun stop.

While in the area to go shopping someone got a migraine and wanted the Salmon dinner from Cava in Montecito well since we're 400 miles away I had to find a southern Latin place in a quickness. The pan de sal bread and the parsley chimichurri was light and not an overwhelming parsley taste. We ordered the chicharones appetizer, thick fatty pork brined then fried I knew it would be the savory crispy thing we needed to help a migraine go away. The way they prepared it with a sweet potato purée and a light bright relish of onions and tomatoes was an excellent balance. We had the salmon and the shrimp prepared like the salmon it was light bright and the host was very accommodating because of our migraine. He turned the music down, and shut the binds. You'll love this place. *Vegan friendly *I told them I don't eat pasta so they made my shrimp plate with quinoa instead. *You won't feel like Shrek when you leave, well not in a bad way. You'll be able to get those errands done.

This is a true hidden gem in the Sacramento area! I have been here for happy hour and lunch, and am happily looking forward to my return. First and foremost, the service here is stellar. The waiters/owners are proud of what they serve, knowledgable about the menu, and will bend over backward to make sure that you have the best possible experience. They recommended dishes and drinks for us that enhanced our experience. On to the food. If you have not previously had Peruvian food, you are missing out. This is the real deal. It is authentic, fresh, homemade, and oh so tasty! There is every attention to flavor, seasoning, and ingredient. The ceviche is to die for as is their octopus causa. Be sure to try their chica morada which is a drink made from boiling purple corn, an alcoholic version is also available!

I wanted to update my prior review. I have been consistantly going back to see and eat the changes I heard of. I must say that the management/owners have listened. Many of my original complaints have been taken care of. To start the portions are much better now. The menu is also much easier to navigate. The menue now has some great items listed. In spaking with the manager it also seems like there will be some peruvian favorites added soon. Thank you for listening.

I've been twice....the ambiance is fabulous....the owners personally take care of guests...the food is exceptional. Great lunch menu is very reasonable; dinner is well priced for what they offer. Disclaimer: I have never been to Peru so I cannot state whether food is authentic or not :-) I came here with a co worker today, having never tried Peruvian food, I was unsure what to expect. Decor- modern and bright, the restaurant is much larger inside than it looks from outdoors. Well spaced tables, great natural light from the windows. Our excellent waiter promptly brought ice water with a lemon slice, some soft rolls with butter and some tastey chimichurri for dipping. I had the Lomo Saltado (tenderloin with tomato, onion, rice and french fries) and my coworker had the Arroz con Pollo. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly to order, seasoned very nicely and my portion was huge. I don't eat dinner on Thursday and Friday nights due to school so usually have a big lunch- this fit the bill perfectly. My co workers huge plate of jasmine rice loaded with cilantro and some sauce nestled a nice piece of chicken that he devoured quickly. I will definitely be back again, and am contemplating the drive from Midtown some evening to try their dinner offerings. This is a most definite return for lunch away from the office.

Hi all..so to my surprise because I am Peruvian..we have one in Roseville! wow! Went on a Sunday ordered all i could on a single order. The place is very nicely decorated it felt very close to home to have actual waiters and a waitress with Peruvian roots. Its huge when they know they know food, our traditions and can tell all that walk in about our country, culture, our tastes..our wonderful full of flavor food! Ceviche was good i told the owner that walked me out the door that i would be honest! Only way we are:). the ceviche entree can be a bit more but yummy! . El lomo saltado riquisimo and fresh! didnt try the causa but saw others have it and it looked nicley plated and delicious. The desserts were fresh and good portion! To all get out of your comfort zone ask all questions and try the most authentic dishes ask what's it made of, is it fresh..and especially what the Menu of the day! oohh yes el arroz chaufa amazing! Will I go back ..Mos Def! Enjoy one of the richest tasteful foods you'll ever try in your life! not just fluff..try it! :-) #Peru4life!

I tried some Peruvian food for the first time the other day. I order causas and while I was waiting for my order to go, I was asked if I'd like to try some chicha morada. The causas were served traditionally, and I loved the sauce and vegetable accents on it. And the chicha morada was sweet and awesome. While I was waiting, the server also showed me some pictures of Peruvian cuisine and explained what chicha morada consisted of - purple corn! Definitely an interesting experience and I'll have to write an updated review once I go back and try more.

Food was more into the fine dining side, so dishes weren't as big and the prices were above your average Peruvian restaurant. Still, it was pretty tasty. One of the reasons for the price is that the restaurant hired 3 chefs who used to work at the Marriott hotel in Lima (according to the owner), which would also explain why you won't find the same homemade-style Peruvian food. I went there a week after they opened their doors and they were still 'tuning' the dishes, service, etc. before their grand-opening, so I don't know what changes were made after that. Anyways, this is a place I'd visit occasionally for special occasions, but not too often due to the price. Btw, if you want to try some dessert, I'd recommend the suspiro a la limeña.

I was invited to a private tasting and I must say that this restaurant would be successful even in Peru. The food was simply amazing even to the point that it made me wonder if I would ever miss going to Peru! Unlike other peruvian establishments that lack the upscale atmosphere of Lima's famous restaurants, the decoration of this restaurant is refreshing, modern, and very inviting. The food presentation I thought was spectacular, and the taste simply out-of-this-world good. My palate cannot wait to come back to this place when it opens. I am very picky where I eat. This place has all the right elements that make it an absolute winner. My congratulations to the owners, the chef and the staff!

Finally a Peruvian restaurant in sacramento(or at least close to)!! I have tried Peruvian food in other cities before so i was excited to find a deal on living social! Upon arrival they bring out a basket of bread with chimichurri and butter. I ordered the lamb dish called "seco de cordero" it was not bad but not impressive either. My husband ordered the "Lomo Saltado" which was very flavorful and delicious! I like my food spicy so they gave me some hot sauce called aji amarillo and it made everything better(with my rice, bread and meat)!! Though my dish was not spectacular I would definately come back for the Lomo Saltado and the Aji sauce!

This restaurant looks very nice. The decor was thought out and planned and appreciated. The service was very slow, especially considering there were only a few tables occupied. The menu seems to cover a variety of food options, but I felt that they missed the mid-priced category. You either have to have something small for ~$10 or something huge for over $20. The food was fine. I had the filet mignon bites with rice, tomatoes, and french fries and my husband had the lamb. Again, the meal was fine, but nothing to draw us back again. I didn't feel that the tastes of Peruvian food were special enough to repeat. Oh well!

I was really hoping that this place would be good, I have had REAL Peruvian food, and this is NOT it. Really disappointing. Do not waste your money. Over priced, poor service, food was really bad.

Had dinner at La Huaca Peruvian Restaurant in Roseville with close friends, whom we invited to try out Peruvian food. We chose Monday evening, assuming business would be slow, ensuring good service. What a disaster! The wine. After our order was taken, we selected a Peruvian wine, something new to all of us. The wine had a strong metallic flavor. We asked our waiter to try it, he declined. I was surprised by his lack of interest. The dinner. Even though the restaurant was nearly empty, our dinner took a loooong time to prepare. The Lomo Saltado (top tenderloin), looked great when brought, but after the first few bites found it was mushy inside---as if it had been frozen, then thawed in a microwave. The Dessert. We ordered coffee and dessert. After fifteen minutes, I walked to the bar, where employees were chatting, and asked about our order, and were told the dessert wasn't ready. I asked for the coffee, and was told they prefer to serve it along with the desert. If you enjoy poor service, poor food, undrinkable Peruvian wine and an experience straight out of "One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest," this restaurant should be at the top of your list.

On, the pricier side, but very good. I ordered ceviche which was really good, and not overly acidic or filled with tomatoes like some mexican ceviches can be and came with hominy and what i think was pine nuts for a nice texture contrast. The octopus is kind of a strange texture, very dense, which i didn't mind, but could see how some would. My fiance got a seafood and rice dish which was really good, but had a little more rice than necessary. The service was very attentive.

We tried La Huaca because they offered a groupon. Upon entering, the restaurant holds a lot of promise. Pleasant decor, nice lighting, no booths, high hopes. Our waiter was nice, although disappointed that we were using a Groupon. When serving our wine, he brought the bottles to the table to fill out glass rather than just bringing us glasses with wine already in it. I understand that he probably did this to show us what we were getting, but pouring my glass from an almost empty bottle was a major faux pas. Clearly that bottle had been open for some time and the wine was oxidized. Dinner was average. Our first course, the Festival de Causas was just ok. At $12.95 it should have been more than 4 little bites on cold yellow potato. The Seco de Cordero con Frijoles (lamb shank) was cooked well, but not seasoned. The Salmon del Sur was completely uncooked. I chose to take it home to cook it for lunch the next day rather than tell the waiter about it. La Huaca could be a gem, but the food needs to be brought up to scratch.

We enjoyed everything we ordered. I'd definitely go back and try other things. Service was also fantastic.

Love love love this place! Food is delicious and unusual, but not so "exotic" it alienates people. The staff is so friendly, and really patient at explaining the menu to novices like me. I hope to return here often!

I want to love the place but it is 2 stars for me at best - 1 star for the tasty and delicious food and another star for the nice setting inside. Here's why I deduct 3 stars. First and foremost is the outrageous price. IMO, it is 30% overpriced. Their menu items have the same price as restaurants in Saint Helena or Carmel. Another star I would deduct is for the staff. Our waiter Octavio was nice and respectful, however the other staff were noisy they didn't gave us a farewell gesture I would expect for such restaurant on our way out. The final star I deducted is the location and the type of music played. Next to a Goodwill Donation store? The type of Peruvian music does not fit the high-end atmosphere of the restaurant. I dont plan to go back for dinner but I'd consider lunch (also expensive) for special occasion with family and friends only.

My sister found this little hide-away and we were pleasantly surprised with how delicious the food was. My sis, cousin and I ordered off the "tapas" menu and then an entree salad to share and the foods were just delicious, really freshly prepared. Our favorites were the Jalea de Mariscos, Yucas a La Huancaína and the Causas Duo. Everything was prepared and plated beautifully, we are foodies and appreciated the presentation. We will definitely recommend this to friends.

I visited La Huaca today for Independence Day and of course I had called ahead for a reservation. It was buffet style for $28.99 and it offered every traditional peruvian dish you can think of like "Seco de carnero, ceviche de pescado, lomo saltado, aji de gallina, chicharrones, paella, ensalada rusa, carapulcra, roast beef, mondongo, to include dessert as well. I was satisfied with all of the dishes; I can taste the condiments maybe the ceviche could have used more lemon but every pallate is different. This can always be added to taste. I became when I found myself chewing on some small white particles of something found in the steam rice. I was told it was plastic from the packaging. (I called it porcelain) the hostess called it "uncooked noodle". I was chewing the rough particles and I felt that it was scratching my teeth. Once I had informed the Hostess/Manager/Owner, he told me he was going to find out what it was. He came back and told me it was noodle, uncooked noodle that had gone into the rice portion. Unfortunately, he did not apologize, he did not take responsibility for this mishap, and he felt I guess like we can move on discreetly as possible. I did three small servings of steam rice and on the third serving is when I found more of the white rocky porcelain particles. Furthermore, an automatic gratuity of 18% was included for a table for two. Is this new? As consumers, I thought we had choices as to how much we tip our server. Feeling irritated as the owner completely ignored my complaint about the white particles.

So I came here for my families' wedding .. first time being here, and I ordered the Lamb dinner. It was fall off the bone, seasoned prefectly. Their wine selection is great and the service was awesome; even though we did come with a large group. I will defiantly tell everyone a out this place and be a repeat customer!
