My cousin took us to this place for some noodles before we headed to Universal Studios. It was pretty good, the place was pretty packed but we got seats within a few minutes. We ordered some Phnom Penh style noodles which tasted really different from the normal pho I'm used to in the Bay. Surprisingly, being of Cambodian descent, I've never tried it before and this was my first time. The noodles were the traditional rice noodles just like any other pho restaurant, it had some small from what I can assume fish balls, shrimp, fried garlic pieces, and bean sprouts. The taste was really distinct as when I try something new, I like to try it in its original form without any sauce or add ons. We also got some Chinese donuts. The taste of the soup itself was something new as the soup base is not what I'm used to. It had a very earthy taste towards it and a chicken/beefy taste. I'm not sure how to describe it but it's very different from traditional pho. It's in a plaza and parking is fairly difficult to get as everyone is trying to find a spot. Some of the servers were hard to talk to while ordering but since my cousin knew how to order and what to say, it was a breeze. Don't ever leave it to me to order haha! Although I've had this for the first time, I think I will have to go to a different place for the same noodles to see the difference in taste and flavor.

tip: closes at 6, and not recommended to come about 30 minutes before closing. Ordered number 2 Chiu Chou noodles ($5.50 plus tax comes out to $6 flat), had the thin noodles (like pho noodles) with soup in the noodles. The broth is light which it's supposed to be for this kind of noodles. The fish balls are homemade but just a bit small. Bowl of noodles had lots of items including shrimp, cooked sprouts on the side, thin slices of pork, and pork kidney (tender, not tough at all). Noodles were on the soft side, next time should request the egg noodles. They had sha cha sauce on the table which is great as well as rooster and the sweet seafood sauce. No pickled jalapenos though. Speaks primarily Cantonese and Vietnamese.

This kim ky service suck rude employees and they gave you alot of noodle and little meat.... $$. I wouldn't recommend this place their soup to much MSG.

Kim Ky Noodle House is all over SGV area but what makes this spot wonderful is how small it is. No that isn't a problem, the flavor of the food and the noodles still come out to be wonderful. I love the seafood and assorted meat rice noodle. Growing up in an Asian community and my family loving to eat noodles. I feel like this place is some what of a second home even with friends. Getting lunch here feels normal to me and having a big bowl of noodles on a cold day is really wonderful. Family, friends and even just chilling by yourself is pretty alright. The crispy doughnut that everyone is talking about is really good but I rarely get it because I feel too full from eating a bowl of noodles. Parking is simple, the shops all around it aren't always busy so parking isn't hard. If you are ever in the Rosemead area you should stop by this cute, cheap place for some good noodles. Drawback might be the furniture still looks like we are in the 70's or some year back in the day. But besides that it is all delicious.

Mixed pork/shrimp with egg noodles and soup on the side is my favorite. Chinese donut is not greasy at all compare of other places. Their crispy noodles look good as well even though I haven't tried it. But will definitely be back to enjoy their noodles. One pet peeve of mine is when you ask for the check and they just stand there after they bring it. The lady literally stood there and waited until I paid.

Kim Ky has just been one of those places that I've had my entire life, and never had a second though about it being on yelp. But this place is amazingly good for Chiu Chow style noodles. I come here often for my soup noodle fix. The interesting thing is that while their menu items are delicious, i always like my own custom order. You can tell them exactly what you want in it, sort of like ordering a pizza. You would first order the type of noodles you want (rice or egg), the size (wide, medium, or thin) then you can add exactly what type of things you want on it. My personal favorite is their fish balls, I think it's super bouncy and very flavorful. But you could say "i want beef balls and fish balls, and shrimp and extra cilantro" and that would be perfectly fine. Then you can order it either wet (with soup) or dry where they give you a bowl of soup on the side. I think that's an interesting feature that not a lot of people think about. It's funny that this review has been incredibly difficult to write since I always order in Chinese! But if you're not fluent in Chinese, they will provide you a waitress who can converse with you as best they could in English. Also prices of their noodles is great! You can get a big bowl of noodles for something like $6 depending on what ingredients you want in it! That bowl will fill you up, and have you leaving with a happy and satisfied sigh :)

I grew up eating here and I always order the same thing: egg noodles with pork kidneys and shrimp with soup on the side. I know it sounds gross, but I can't order anything else!! So delicious!! They have the best condiment ever: the satay! Always finish a jar every time I go :X Fast service and the quality/service is better than the Kim Ky in San Gabriel.

Since this type of review is for restaurants, I have to be a little more critical, so if I mention anything that you do not like. Please, excuse me. All right, here goes my review! The majority of the star ratings I have given for this restaurant goes mostly to the deliciousness of the food. I have been a big fan of Kim Ky Noodles for a long time, no matter where it is located. Their noodles, egg or rice, are absolutely fantastic! I simply love the fact that everything is hot and ready to go. It brings me great joy whenever I order food here because I know it will always be satisfying. Other than that, this Kim Ky in particular has a much larger serving than the one in San Gabriel. Today was actually my first time here and I've noticed that their portions are bigger, which is a good thing of course. The more the better and merrier right? :) I think by this point I've already made it clear on how good the food tastes, so I shouldn't be blabbering on anymore before this review gets repetitive. Service, they are okay. It's not too fancy and not too unfriendly either. It was a pretty quick process I suppose. The waitress come, took your order, and in about 3 minutes, your food is out ready and hot for you. No mean gestures or uneasiness at all. Regarding the layout of the restaurant, it can get pretty crowded considering the fact that the place is small. It's as noisy as any other Asian restaurants (if you notice). I would definitely give more stars if it weren't for the atmosphere of the restaurant. I understand why it needs to be so, but a fair review is a fair review. If it doesn't have a good presentation, I won't give it above a 3 stars. Nevertheless, go here for the food! ;D It's amazing, trust me! - 1st time customer

The food is great here. This place is always packed during lunch time and you get the feeling that they are rushing you to finish and leave. And as other reviewers have mentioned, not as clean as they could be... that's not to say that they're unsanitary. I guess what I mean by not clean is that it your first impression would be that its a tad bit ghetto. But then again this place is cheap! You can have a full meal, drop a $10 and still have change back after leaving tip. I always crave this place once every 2 weeks. For a better meal experience, take it to go and eat in the comfort of your own home. If it wasn't for the bomb a$$ food, I'd give this place a 3.

My favorite Chu Chow noodle place, my friend like noodle cafe better but I like this place more...you can not go wrong with the #1, and the rice cake with eggs...soo good. they make the rice cake a but cripsy unlike their location on San Gabriel. Yummy, just writing this review is making me want to go grab a bowl tomorrow morning..even on a summer day.

This is one of those places that looks like where you would take your mom to, or she takes you there. Then she did, and I ate with her. Noodles are A-Ok because my mom said they were ok, but not as good as how she would make them, 'cuz she makes them way better, and it's true! Overall, we usually go here when we can't find anywhere else to go and it's cheap. The place looks bland. Pretty much looks like every other Asian place. They all probably took the same class in interior decorating.... PS their vegetarian dishes suck and not worth going if you eat vegetarian, says my cousin.

  • Jaccee C.

i come here frequently because of the big portions that they give in a bowl. usually get the wonton noodle soup. it comes with wonton wrapped with pork and shrimp inside. they also have ground pork floating around in the noodle soup along with slices of very soft pork. their portions of noodles are huge! my only complaint is that their soup isnt salty enough for me and this isnt the first time, but it is every time that i go there. perhaps they do not want to make it too salty or maybe the soup was just right, but the noodles added on made it bland. not sure. But its okay since they have salt on the table for you to add on your own. :) this place is usually really packed depending on what day and time you go. normally on saturdays, they are packed and you have to wait for your number to be called.

Just like their other location in San Gabriel, I love this place! Bowls of rice and egg noodles with fish balls and pork kidney with a dish of fried bread (you tiao). My family and I are Teochiu and this place serves good Teochiu noodles. Plus it's awesome to hear your dialect when otherwise you can't hear it anywhere else :D

The bf introduced me to this place. His family has been going here for more than a decade. I don't think I will come here by myself because if you don't speak Chinese, they are more likely to get your order wrong. We usually come for a late Sunday lunch. The wait is ridiculous during peak lunch hours. You have to wait outside where it kinda smells. But when we talk about the food - it's authentic Taiwanese dishes, mostly noodles (at least that's what my bf says). I like my food simple - not a lot a spices. I usually order the wonton soup. Each pork wonton has a shrimp in it. The broth taste delish! The wrap taste pretty fresh - it doesn't break apart when I'm trying to scoop the wonton up - this is the problem I've been having with some other places I order wonton soup from. I also get an order of the donut (I'm not sure what the proper name is) and boba milk tea. The place looks outdated but people come here for the food. The prices are really good too.

I usually go to the one in San Gabriel, so it was my first time here. There was a wait at lunch because the restaurant is really, really small. The interior seems run down and kinda dirty. but what do you expect. So went down to sit and ordered the seafood chow mein which was 6.50 and my dad got the seafood chow fun. My dad's food came out first and upon tasting it he said it was really sweet. Like someone just dumped a lot of sugar in his noodles. When my came out, on the first bit I felt like I had just eaten a spoonful of salt. But then I was like hey maybe, it's just me. So I was like alright I will try some more. Nope! it was the noodles! which deserved one star, but the waitress wasn't rude when I told her it was salty, she took it back to the kitchen and in a minute it was out alittle better then before, but still. The nice waitress gave this rating one more star. I wouldn't come back here if I wanted some noodles, just stick to the noodle house in san gabriel.

  • Calvin H.

This place is exactly the same as the Kim Ky on San Gabriel Boulevard but dirtier and much more cramped. If you're looking to get your fix of Teochew-style noodles, go there instead, because they have the same menu. There's not enough seating in this joint, even at 11AM on a random Monday, so we had to share a table (which I've only had to do once before in the US). The waitress fumbled and gave me the wrong drink, but I decided not to press the issue. I ordered the hu tieu Nam Vang thap cam (jinbian guotiao if you speak Mandarin), which was #2 on the menu and had some incredibly unclear English description. I had no idea what I ordered but I knew I wanted something I've never had. These Phnom Penh-style noodles were exactly the same as the house special rice noodles (first thing on the menu) but with pho noodles instead of Chinese wide rice noodles. The broth was MSG-heavy, but the noodles were fresh and the pork pieces and shrimp on top were cooked just right. Edible, but not exciting.

  • Patrick S.

This location is about half the size of the San Gabriel location but still good. My favorite here: the satay sauce is the bomb! I usually order Chinese doughnuts on the side and a main dish of wonton noodle (dry: soup on the side) with big egg noodles. A couple of scoops of their awesome satay sauce, a squeeze of chicken sauce, few drips of re vinegar, and pickled chili; mix that all together = satisfying meal. Other notable items would be the seafood noodle soup with half egg noodle, half rice noodle. Almost everything here is very good.

I love their hu tieu, it's the best I've had and the prices are really good too. =D

Good noodle. I usually order white fat noodle with shrimps and chicken. Other wise ill order yellow thin egg noodle with shrimp and chicken. Its cheap and good here. I dont like the fried rice here, it was good at some part and some is so salthy. ;( like a ball of salt. I like this place better than the sg one. Even though sg is bigger

I grew up eating here and every time I go, there food is great. It gets busy in the morning, but it is worth the wait. Its cheap and afforable. If you are craving some noodles, come to this place. Their service is fast and the workers would check up on you to see how everything is going.

The first time I went to Kim Ky, I was on my Chiu Chow noodles crawl. I ordered my usual meat and shrimp noodles and really thought everything was quite fresh. The parking lot was better than most since it's a bigger shopping center. We did have to wait a while to get seated since we didn't know exactly how many people were coming and everyone was running late (not the restaurant's fault). Everyone was very friendly to us. The second time I went, I was by myself and my noodles clumped together and there wasn't much flair as my first bowl a few weeks earlier. I think it was because it was nearing the end of the lunch shift and the staff was starting to eat their own meal. I don't really see myself as returning since there are so many more amazing noodles to be found.

Filet mignon cubes with red rice - that's all I have to say about the food. The service is always good and the location is nothing to complain about unless you weigh more than 300 lbs. and have trouble fitting into a school bus.

I'm a frequent visitor here for breakfast/ brunch. This is the type of place where if you come enough you will recognize the other regulars who eat here on a regular basis as well. Definitely gives you cozy small-town vibe which I love. The place can get crowded between 10-1 but the wait is never long. The place is very efficient at getting food out on a timely manner which definitely reduces wait times during the rush hours. I always get the beef variety (sliced beef, beef ball, +two types of tripe) with large egg noodles + soup on the side. Their noodles always come out just right- not over cooked while retaining a pleasant bite. You can easily tell the noodles are fresh. The broth they serve with their noodles is light yet flavorful. They have all the standard condiments as well, but their satay sauce tastes different from other places and is definitely my favorite! Most people here comes for their noodle-soup but they also serve stir fried noodles and rice dishes- which I'm sure is pretty darn good as well!

3.5 stars. This is a bustling spot for breakfast and lunch. (I'm assuming for dinner as well.) Lots of customers ordering rice noodles (white) or egg noodles (yellow) in broth, ChiuChow-style. I looked around to see what others in nearby tables had ordered, so I had the assorted meat and shrimp with rice noodles, which was tasty, heavy on toasted onions. It had slices of pork, some chicken, two medium-size shrimp, a fishball or two, and a slice of pork liver. Tasty broth, a wee bit on the salty side. The menu also offers porrdige, chow fun, chow mein and rice selections. The setting itself is cozy. There are some booth-style seats along the sides of the wall. The tables down the center of the room are rectangular and allow about 8 people. If you are seated in one of these rectangular tables with a smaller party, be prepared to share the space. The clientele ranged from families, grandmas/grandpas, couples, and everyone else. Parking can be though as Kim Ky is in a busy strip mall with several other Vietnamese businesses. Service was efficient and basic but friendly. Verdict: a good place for ChiuChow "breakfast" or lunch noodles.

Pretty good noodle place in the El Monte area. This place gets packed on the weekend, you'll have to write your name down on a wait-list, for noodles! Favorite noodle here is the Beef Satay, well I'll eat it anywhere, but it's good here. If you have never tried it, it's super thick and somewhat oily, but really good and really unhealthy. Sucks that usually goes hand in hand. The food is cheap (less than $10). Service and environment is as expected, bad and dirty. So if you don't dine in, it is just as good to-go.

    (3)
  • Patricia J.

I love this place. The noodles are fucking delicious, and no it's not the soup. I'm a vegetarian so I always order the "big yellow noodles" with only vegetables, no soup or meat. Try it sometime if you want to see what the noodles taste like. I recommend ordering a Chinese donut to go with it too. Yummy and greasy! Also, the boba here is probably the best I've ever had. It's soft and chewy when you first order it, and the milk tea itself is delicious. You can actually taste the tea. It definitely beats Quickly's. One word of caution: if you don't speak Chinese or Vietnamese, they'll most likely get your order wrong if you make a lot of adjustments. So make sure you clarify your order two or three times before it actually gets to the kitchen.

Again, another downer from Yelp. I thought this place was going to perform well because it was packed (Yes, I have to wait for about 15-20 minutes before I got seated). Make sure you understand Chinese/Cantonese/Vietnamese because the lady who called your number does not call your number in English. The lady almost forced us to share table with others, but we refused it and chose to wait. When we finally got the table, we asked the lady for recommendation and we went for the recommendation. The portion was decent for the price, but their wide rice noodle (chow fun) was bland, almost tasteless, and a little slimy (oily?). That's the first time I ate Chow fun that disgusting. And I thought, WTH? What did the other people order? Why did I have to wait that long for this cr^*? I looked around and they all seemed to order noodles like mine. I even noticed one newcomer pointed at my bowl and wanted to order the same thing. I almost gestured to that customer not to order the same food, because mine was definitely lacking, but anyway I decided not to offend the restaurant owners who took the order. Anyway, for those of you who wanted to try this place, save your money and your time and go somewhere else.

the food here is GREAT!!!!! my favorite is fat rice noodles and skinny egg noodles with chicken and fish (fresh and fried!) the prices have gone up over the year.... My best friend and i use to eat here for $10... now more like $15- pricey for asian noodles!!! however rest is typically dirty and services isnt great

The noodle soups are always so tasty! My favorite is the shrimp and fish noodle soup with half egg noodle and half rice noodle. Our server was very nice and thoroughly repeated our order back to us. It's always busy here and there's a wait. However, I think it's totally worth the wait.

Kim Ky is bomb .com! A serious hole in the wall joint, Kim Ky delivers with food yo mama makes at home! I had their combination egg noodle with soup on the side. Your basic chiu chow noodles done right ! For only $5.50 that's pretty cheap for a filling bowl of noodles. Half rice/egg noodles is an option. The restaurant itself feels very dirty but that's what you'd expect. tNoodles

Unfortunately Not Impressed Plenty of authentic options but the one I got was not good. I got the Chicken and Fish Rice Noodles. There was almost no chicken and the fish was flavorless. The noodles and broth were ok. Also had the Chinese Donut (fried bread you can dip in your soup). CASH ONLY

I don't even know what I was eating. With the help with my vietnamese friends, I ordered the #1 along with their Iced Coffee. #1 was good. The noddle dish had ample amount of meat and shrimp in it. Make sure to put a lot of the sauce they give you or else it might be too try for some people. Although I didn't put a lot of it, my friends dumped a lot of sauce. The soup that comes along with was very flavorful too. Order the donuts and dip them in the soup! Also yummy. The portions are kind of small though...and it's also cash only. But everything is so cheap! Just order a lot!

One of the best noodle places in Socal!! Its cheap, authentic, and guaranteed to leave you craving for more. Its located in a small plaza with lots of parking spots, but you can also park in the street as well. Now onto the good stuff...they are well known for their Chiu Chow noodles. With that being said, I usually come during lunch and these are some of their BEST and most YUMMIEST items: 1) Chiu Chow soup noodles with half golden noodles and half white noodles - this gem comes with all the soup noodle standards - shrimp, assorted meat balls, green onions, etc. But the golden noodles are SO SO GOOD. 2) Chiu Chow golden noodles (dry style - no soup) - like the dish above, but the dry version (no soup) 3) Chinese donut - quite possibly one of the best Chinese donuts I have ever had...they are FRESH and CRISPY and go quite well with anything (but goes well especially with soup noodles)

Food: standard teo chew noodles. Delicious and satisfying. Service: lacking. The waitresses are pretty much talking to each other and I got up to get the green chilies and straws myself. Shady- when we asked for the bill. She just handed me a piece of paper with 15.30 written on it. No explanation as to the items or how that # came to be. Ordered two #1. Didn't look at the menu but prices couldn't have increased to that much...

This is my parents favorite spot for noodle soup! It's a hole in the wall, a bit dirty, and outdated. However, the food is great! Service is fast and it does get crowded on the weekend but the wait is usually short.

My first time here and it was a positive experience. I had the wonton noodle soup with the skinny noodles. Pretty good. And the restaurant is rated "A". I recommend this restaurant. I even like their iced Chinese tea.

A little hole in the wall restaurant that seems beloved by locals. Already at 9 am on Sunday, it was packed. They have 4 main options: thin egg noodles, thick egg noodles, thin rice noodles and thick rice noodles. You can get all these in broth or with broth on the side and an assortment of meats, seafood, etc. The noodles were long and very smooth, the best part of the meal.

  • Yi Z.

This place is good for when you're broke, hungry, and want something hearty. The decor is stuck in the last century and don't expect much in terms of service. The entire shopping plaza is a bit too third world-like for my taste but the bf insisted that the ghettoness is a sign of good food. There must have been 6 parties already waiting by the time we arrived but the line moved fast because people eat their noodles quickly. We both got soup noodles and I thought that #1 with rice noodles would be a safe choice. Both broths tasted the same and it was not good. The noodle soup seemed like an inferior version of its cousin, pho. Which reminds me...I wanted to get pho that day but I got vetoed by the bf. That just shows it's always best to listen to the woman.

Food is great just like the other 2 locations. Was very cautious when eating. Place is filthy. Only one star is because the place is so filthy. Thank god for chopsticks in the paper wraps. Spoons had filth in it. The sauce plates were sticky and had stains on them. The bowl they brought for my daughter had food stains on it. The lady that was busing the tables threw food particles and papers on the floor. If you are craving the noodles really bad just go to the other two locations. This is the dirtiest noodle restaurant I've ever been in. I'm going to go home and down some vitamin c and DayQuil for Safe measures.

COCKAROACHES!!!!!!!!!! Did nothing when we told them they just took it away and didn't even give us a second look. I would give it ZERO STARS if I could. We've been coming here for years. Go to the one kym kee it's much CLEANER.

I don't know if it's the service or the actual taste of the food, but I can't say I like this location over the other one in the SGV. After 3 visits, I've always left here unsatisfied. I absolutely love the filet mignon cubes with the red rice. My first time here, the sauce they used on the meat tasted odd, like too much of a BBQ flavor which I didn't appreciate. The next two times the portions were ridiculously small. I don't like stuffing myself with rice so this was just bad. Another thing I don't like is that they bring out our Chinese donut way too early every single time. I like it warm and it's always cold by the time they bring our meals out. Real bummer. The ladies working here really try their best and I do commend them for their hard work. Paying a little more attention to your customers will definitely help business out in the long run.

Been coming here for years. They're always busy for some reason, and there's always a line to wait in, but it's totally worth it. Their noodles are amazing. The broth is so addicting, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and the iced tea is really strong. Definitely try the thick egg noodles and the thick rice noodles. They'll generally ask you which you want, but make sure you ask them! Also, I don't know the name of it, but they have these fried bread rolls that are DELICIOUS when dipped into the broth. They should be on the appetizers side of the menu. TRY THOSE.

I came here for chi Chou noodles because it was the near by and there were decent reviews on Yelp. I didn't really think it was that good =( I am from the Bay area and we have way better kidney for the noodle at the place I go to up north. I did really enjoy the noodles and they also had some other good looking items I would like to try. Its also cash only, like allot of the other place in Monterey Park.

This place is really good! Best noodles house in San Gabriel. I come here every time I'm in the area since I'm from the OC. This place has flavorful noodles and you must try their crispy doughnuts!

  • Jeanie L.

I never came here until my dad decided to take my sister and I and introduced me to legit Chiu Chow style noodles. The broth isn't typically as flavored as I would have liked, but shrimp and beef gave the noodles an extra meaty taste. I didn't think it was amazing, but their noodles reminded me of home cooked noodles that my parents would usually make on cold days. I loved how cheap the food was! The bowl of noodles were only $6, which isn't bad. Like most Chinese places, the restaurant only accepts cash. The service was OK, the place is a little dingy and old judging from the interior, but I couldn't believe how long we waited until we were seated. Probably took us about 20-25 mins before we were seated..and this was on a weekday like for lunch, so I was surprised to see the influx of customers during this peak hour. Definitely going to give other noodle soups a try, but this place is definitely something to try if you're looking for something homemade.

Great noodle shop along this stretch of restaurant row. I've been going to their sister shop in Monterey Park for years and has enjoyed the House Special lo-mein. The seafood lo-mein is also very good. This place is cash only.

Very delicious rice noodles. The broth is so tasty and aromatic. I always get the seafood. The fish is sooo good. I've tried another place not too far from here and it's not as good. Tastes really good when you're sick too.

I've been coming to Kim Ky for Chiu Chow style noodles for years. My dad used to bring me here back in day when I was still in school. The restaurant is nothing fancy and may feel a bit dirty, but the food is fantastic here. When I don't get my noodle fix from home, I come here for it. I normally order the house special chiu chow style noodle, soup on the side, with both wide egg noodles and medium size rice noodles! You can request the type of noodles you want (wide or thin egg noodle, small, medium,or thick rice noodles), add shredded chicken, pieces of fish, pig liver, fish balls, shrimp, dry or with soup, it's custom to your liking. If you like spicy, you should try their Satay Beef noodles, it's really good. The fried rice cakes with egg is a chiu chow specialty called 'chau gueh' and is always good. I dip those rice flour cubes in a sauce made with soy sauce and vinegar with some sriracha in it, mind blowing good! When I was younger, I used to love ordering the shredded chicken and fish with thick rice noodles. That was the typical thing my dad would order me, it was good and simple...still good as of now. The food always comes out hot and quick. My family have been a big fan of the Kim Ky noodles and it's one of those restaurants where the whole family will continue to come as long as they stay open. The prices are great...a bowl of noodle average to about $6 depending on what you get in it. I love coming here with the family. Be aware, there is a bit of MSG used in the broth, so don't be surprised if you become thirsty after eating here. That's just how it is. I've been to both San Gabriel and Rosemead locations, both equally good. The staff is quick and prompt, you'll get what you request right away. Kim Ky accepts cash only!

Definitely an upgrade from the other Kim Ky in San Gabriel, the shop was much more cozy and smaller, easy for the waiter/ress to serve you. My friend's order of the Assorted Meat and Shrimp with small rice noodle came with plentiful amount of the noodles, I mean a LOT! Mine on the other hand, Wonton noodles with half big egg and big rice noodles, came in smaller portion and since I wanted it to be dry, which means soup on the inside, they put the wontons inside that soup bowl, interestingly. I've never had one with that. Usually they would put the wonton inside the dry bowl and soup separate. Anyway, let's move on to the taste. for Chiu Chow-noodle, I put this #3 after Noodle Cafe and Mien Nghia, definitely a contender, only for Kim-Ky at this location. I liked my bowl and the fact that they put more chives than the other places were a nice touch. The only one thing I would change was putting the wonton inside the dry bowl, instead of combining it with the soup. By the way, they had the biggest size wontons I've ever seen among other ChiuChow noodle places. Parking was easy, price was good, service was great, I'm definitely not complaining. Would totally come back here again.

I love noodles!! Lately I've been trying different noodle places within the San Gabriel/Rosemead Area. I've been wanting to try Kim Ky so I came here for the first time a couple of months ago. This restaurant seems to be my favorite as I go there pretty often. Their noodles are definitely fulfilling and comes with a lot of meat. Sometimes too much in my opinion. Service is not the friendliest but definitely fast as their soups are always ready to go. I like to order the combo #1 with shrimp and meat. Sometimes I'll try the egg noodles or half-half (egg noodle and rice noodle) but I always come back to the combo#1 with thin rice noodles. I love adding a ton of the satay sauce to the soup. They also provide bean sprout and green onion randomly. Sometime they give it to you and sometime you have to request it. I love eating chinese donuts with the noodle. Their seafood chow fun is actually pretty good. Although a relatively small restaurant, the servers are quite efficient so you can eat and leave within 20 minutes. There are plenty of parking in the parking lot and they close by 5 or 6 pm.

Chinese noodles and Chinese food in general are definitely underrated. If you're tired of pho and Thai boat noodles, you have to come down Kim Ky. Such a good representation of Chinese cuisine that doesn't involve stereotypical dim sum and chow-something-or-another. These noodles are to die for. They are light and non-greasy, unlike other cultural noodles. The best part is the condiments. There's this one in particular that is über delicious. Supposedly it's shrimp, but I'm not sure so don't quote me! I love it so much that I will scoop almost half the jar into my bowl in one visit. That fried shrimp cracker-ish thingy is also pretty bomb-dot-com. Sad that they don't offer it with every bowl :( I think maybe it's for the seafood/combination one only? Anyways, I just wanted conclude my review by saying that yes, they speak fluent English! No excuse not to come down! BTW, this is like Burger King--you can have it your way!

Been coming here since the 90s, my favorite is still the fried rice cake + egg. The porridge and noodles are good too! Come early or get a number as soon as you arrive. Wait can be long sometimes.

This is where my family goes for soupy noodles, Teo Chew style (also known as Chaozhou, Teochiu, Tiuchiu, Tiochiu, or Diojiu). But honestly I don't know if it's Teo Chew with a Vietnamese slant or authentically Teo Chew from China, because I have only ever had this exact soupy noodles in Vietnam (served by Teo Chew people) and I have never been to that part of China to try it there. The restaurant is located in a U-shaped strip mall on Garvey Ave just west of the concrete-lined Rio Hondo "river." Parking is pretty easy in the mall if you come here for breakfast. All my life I've only ever had this soupy noodles for breakfast so to me it is breakfast food. The restaurant is small so there might be a wait, but they have chairs outside if you don't mind sitting with the smokers, and the wait is usually quite short because this place has quick turnaround. The only noodles I have ever ordered is item #1 on the menu. You can get the noodles dry, with a small bowl of clear soup on the side, or with the soup in the noodles. The noodles are rice noodles and you can choose them fat or thin. I like them fat. If you're not a fan of rice noodles, you can ask for egg noodles. If you can't decide, you can ask for both. The staff speaks Vietnamese, Cantonese, Teo Chew, and maybe some English. The menu is in Chinese, Vietnamese, and English. The server who delivers the menu often will just stand at the table waiting for us to order, so there's no time to browse the menu. Most people don't even look at the menu when they sit down; they just order directly. Complimentary hot tea arrives quickly after you place your order. And the steaming bowl of soupy noodles will arrive just a few minutes after that. They usually serve this very quickly, and the soup is extremely hot! I love Teo Chew soupy noodles not only because I grew up with it but also for the following reasons: the soup is clear and sweet, and there are many things in the soup such as kidney (I love kidney!), ground pork, prawns, fish balls, and fried onions. It is just so flavorful. I ordered a side order of kidney once and it came out sauteed with chives. And the order was huge. I realize that I only like kidney when it is boiled tender in soup, so I can't order that again. After you have eaten, just walk up to the cashier and pay, then leave a tip at your table. One bowl of this soupy noodles is so filling that it's nice to stroll around the strip mall before heading into the car. The other stores in the strip mall tend to be very specialized. There is a store that sells only Chinese sausages; they are super yummy and fresh compared to what you buy at the supermarket. There's another one that sells all kinds of tropical fruits from Vietnam. When you walk by, you can smell the jackfruit that they are peeling and packaging onsite. Next to Kim Ky Noodle House is a store that sells freshly made soy products: soy milk, tofu, etc. All in all, a great little place in the neighborhood.

Anytime I want some Asian comfort food, this is the place I go. They're always packed, but the turn over is really high so you're never left waiting for long. I always order the gravy noodles or won ton mein. Depends on my mood. Of course I can't forget the Chinese donut with a side of condensed milk - just like in Thailand. The food fills you up without making you feel too guilty. Win win! The service is always friendly and quick. Alfred is the best! I definitely wouldn't go anywhere else for my comfort food fix.

I'm all about that PORK KIDNEY AND EGG NOODLES. All day, everyday. The noodle to pork kidney ratio is a bit skewed; there's way more noodles than pork kidney! I AIN'T ABOUT THAT. Really, though, I was left with a huge chunk of noodles by the time I finished my pork kidneys, so I ended up just wasting it ;(. The noodles were good and chewy, but quality definitely isn't as good as Noodle Cafe. They were an uncomfortable, dull yellow compared to beautiful and vibrant. Like wait what, who is this girl judging the quality of noodles based on color? It's an accurate measure, TRUST. I also wasted some of it because a good handful of noodle strands were glued together still, oddly and disturbingly. Aaaand, the soup was so bland I considered adding salt. I wouldn't come back for their noodles (yes, I know it's a noodle house...), but maybe to try their rice dishes or egg flour cake thangalang.

Been here many time and went there with family members on the 5/10/14. We had 3 orders of "hu tieu chiu chow." During the consumption, I took a bite on the pork meat and found out that it wasn't fully cooked at all, extremely raw. I let the owner know; she gave me the funny look and told the chef to cook it again. No apology whatsoever. Def won't comeback again. Typical behavior from some of the Asian restaurant that I have been to.

Whaaa, whaaat? I felt so lost here. Being that it was our first time and we didn't speak Chiuchow... I don't know. We waited a pretty long time to be seated. It was crazy busy on the weekend. And there's scary seagulls/pigeons all over the plaza. My greatest enemies. Awesome. So I had to hide for about half an hour while waiting for the shelter and refuge of Kim Ky Noodle House. After we were seated I felt pressured to order right away; I hate that! I understand that they're busy, but pleeease just let me look at the menu. I ended up ordering the wrong thing, of course. DEFINITELY get the egg noodles. That's what they're known for. Everything tasted really good, I just wish I got egg noodles instead of my .. rice noodles, or whatever they were :{ P.S. We felt some weird pressure to eat super fast too, so we did. And burned ourselves like crazy lol. The food is good, but I think I'll check out the SG branch next time.

Chiu Chow style noodles.. Had the house special without the soup and chinese donuts on the side. Pretty good, but I'm from San Jose so it's way better up north! =]

How did i not know there was a location on Garvey...oh well, this place has about the same quality of food as the one on San Gabriel except the kidney here is a little but cooked more. I ordered the thick egg noodle in soup with assorted meat; shredded chicken, ground pork, kidney, fish ball and shrimp. I like the broth of the soup combined with the super spicy green jalapenos and spicy satay i seem to already almost use up to the point where i have to go to another table to get more. You can also buy lotto tickets here.

Smaller than the other one, but food seems the same, theres more parking, it seems cleaner (no carpet thats so old and dirty that you can see two distinct colors) and it's faster to get seated. Noodles not served in soup are amazing - perfectly cooked, soft, but chewy, and you can taste the texture of each noodle. Noodles in soup are just meh, because the soup hides the flavors and textures and cooks it a little more. Rice cakes are hit or miss too. One time it was so mushy that it just split in two and fell apart from holding it with chopsticks. Overall pretty good value and cheap.

I just don't get it! What is everyone else raving about here? I've seen nothing but instagram posts of food pics from here and also plenty of check-ins from friends from yelp and facebook so I had this place bookmarked for a while now. This place was such a disappointment. First off, the ladies that work here are rude and unwelcoming. When they seated us, they literally tossed the menus across the table rather than gently placing them in front of us acting like they didn't even want to serve us. That simple gesture already turned me off. I figured, hey, that's the typical Asian service most mom and pop shops provide so I can't be expecting some A rated service so after a minor fuss I let that slide. I ordered their #4 Beef Ball w/rice noodles (Hu Tieu Bo Vien) for $6.25 and their infamous egg rice cake pancake in hopes that hopefully the food was better than service. Ugh, I think NOT! Poor service was also reflective on their dishes. My beef ball soup was so bland that it tasted like water with a pinch of salt. No flavor at all and the bowl really contains nothing but green onions? As for the pancake, that was OKAY but tad on the oily side. Sadly, this was a waste of space on my list of bookmarks.

    1. Taste: standard taste, typical a msg noodle soup, there is nothing so special about this place. 2. Service: not so good, you get service based on the water or waitress's mood. Sometime they serve u fast and sometimes late. 3. Hygiene: very low, I have had dried food debris around the bowl served. 4. Environment: typiclly a Vietnamese fast food restaurant. I give it a 3 star because of the time frame they prepared ur food and the price made it a 3 star

This place is hands down one of the best places to get dry noodles. That is the only thing I ever order here, because the rest of the menu is hit or miss. Their chinese donuts are good, complements the soup well. As an appetizer, I love the fried rice cakes with eggs. I mean, the service isn't the best and its not the cleanest establishment, but its good if you want dry noodles.

I am so surprised that there was a 10 minute wait for 2 on a Friday afternoon! This place definitely does not deserve another visit from me. Not understanding why it is rated 4 stars. Hmph! The food was sub-par. We had beef rice noodle and pork preserved egg porridge. The portion of the noodle is noticeably smaller than the other noodle places (Kim Kee and Noodle Cafe). And the beef in the noodle was choppy and not as expected. Both the noodle broth and porridge were loaded with MSG. The food left us really thirsty. The price, I guess, is what draws in the crowd.. but I would rather spend that $13.95 on something of quality. Worst of all, the place gives me an impression of being dirty and unkempt. Tables and utensils felt sticky with water marks on them. Not returning.

There is a B rating plastered on the window and peering inside the packed to the brim place one can't help but describe the restaurant as grimy. A couple of little old ladies with lots of missing teeth sit out front with their herbs spread atop newspapers on the ground for sale. You can bet that those grandmas probably grew those herbs themselves in their back yard. Old world style. Some people might call it a disorganized mess, I call it charming. It's okay for everyone to gather in this manner because that's how they would do it in Vietnam so people here don't blink an eye at the chaos. There is another noodle house down the street with a similar name Kim Kee Noodle Cafe that serves similar food but in a much cleaner environment. I've dined there and prefer the food here. There is a lot more flavor to the offerings here and they give you a ton of food for a slightly cheaper price. Tieu Chow(there are so many versions of the americanized spelling) noodles is what they are known for. Then you have the option of: thin or thick, rice or egg noodle, and with soup or without soup on the side. What most people go for is the egg noodle in either size with soup on the side. If you order that your first time, you'll get a good jist of this place.

I LOVE KIM KY!!! I wished they would have longer hours! I never make it back in time after work because they close at 6PM! :( The weekends get super duper packed. Expect a wait if you have a large party and go during lunch hours. My go-to order is #1 Assorted Meat with Rice and Egg Noodles and Soup on the side and an order of the chinese donut! I always pack on the satay sauce and the jalapenos!! Yum....

A hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant with a grade A health rating? That's also good? Madness! We Chinese know the lower the grade, the better the food (half-kidding). :) If you don't speak Cantonese or Vietnamese, you'll have to resort to pointing at the menu and/or interpretive dance. I got Vietnamese coffee, Chinese donuts, and a noodle soup with egg noodles, fish, and shrimp. The coffee was fragrant and strong, just how I like my coffee! It was also creamy and not too sweet. I know they brew it fresh because they have a bean grinder and espresso machine. No sissy coffee here! The Chinese donuts were fantastic. Hot, crisp, and not greasy at all. I like them with hoisin sauce, though I see a lot of people dipping thing in their soup. The noodle soup was pretty good. I loved the noodles and ingredients, but the broth was okay. It tasted vaguely like instant chicken stock, an ingredient I'm very familiar with. Not that it was a huge turn-off, though, since I drank quite a bit of it... that sweet, sweet MSG. The prices are very decent. Just remember to bring cash!

Great places for Teo-Chew Noodles. They have a great variety and the price is right. Sometimes it does get busy especially during lunch time, so plan accordingly. The noodles may be a bit oily but it always hits the spot. The place is not the cleanest but it's expected with Chinese places and those with high volume. There is also a parking lot but may also be full during lunch hours. If you're in the Rosemead area off Garvey definitely hit this place up!

Quick service and good food. If you haven't been to a Chinese restaurant the service might turn you off but you can't go wrong with their noodle soup! Be prepared to wait if you don't get there before 10.

Been here three times and kept telling myself that I should give it another shot again because their food is pretty good but the service is just meh. I understand that if it's packed you can blame anyone, and also I don't expect good customer service from Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants. However we always want to get what you pay for you know. I don't see myself coming back here anytime soon!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
