An upscale spot with a sophisticated menu - not what you would expect in Redding. The black bean burger was fantastic - great combination of spices on a fresh buttered brioche bun. The fish tacos were very pricey at $17

I am now a fan of Moonstone Bistro. In fact, I would go on to say that it is my go-to special occasion restaurant for my family. True, it doesn't have the ambiance and view of the restaurant View 202, but it has consistently good food and that is all I really care about. While the prices are higher for lunch (~$14 and up), the portions are large and most of us had some food to bring home. They provided house made rolls at the start, and the entrees came out hot. The menu, it appears, changes periodically and it has already changed since I went in the beginning of this month. I tried the "Some Like it Hot" pasta, which had homemade tagliatelle pasta, veggies, and a nicely balanced hot sauce (~$16). Someone else got the Veggie Burger (~$13.95) and it was monstrous. As with the other burgers, it also comes with side a choice of salad, soup d'jour or pomme frites. The server was a really friendly young girl that was attentive and engaging. The restaurant workers also thanked us as we left. Overall, I wish they had a better location and ambiance and were a bit cheaper. But it is still a good restaurant for special events and we will continue to come here as long as they continue serving great food. They say it is" the belly that rules the mind" and in the end of this meal, my belly was happy.

Simply outstanding. Healthiest and best food in town, hands down. Portions are just enough, hand-selected wines, beautiful food presentation and welcoming environment.

The Fish Tacos were amazing. The plate comes with 12 mini tortillas and generous helping of fish. I'm not a fan of spicy things so I asked our waitress if the jalapeño was part of the coleslaw and she immediately offered to have some made without. She was very attentive all night and a real pleasure to talk with. Made our dining experience easy and fun. The dinner menu is a bit pricy though. I think $$$ would be more accurate.

Wow. Epic fail!! Of course we weren't born and raised in redding. I guess these residents are used to being treated like crap. We were asked if we had a reservation. we said no (at 5pm) and were told we could stay no longer than an hour. We asked what the soup was. After being told the waitress had to come back out and say the soup had changed. No offer to mention specials or anything. Their fish says "in season". I had to track the waitress down to ask what it was for tonight. $22 for a small bowl of pasta and half the noodles were clumped together like they weren't cooked properly. Tons of oil sitting in the bottom of my dish. Tiny tiny bit of red sauce and super bland. No salt and pepper on the table. I had to ask for some. I asked for a bit more red sauce and I was turned down, saying they wouldn't give her any. My husband ordered fish tacos. They brought the wrong tortillas and had to send it back to fix. Manager came out and didn't say much except she could get me some more sauce. She didn't offer to comp or discount the meal at all. Ridiculous. Won't ever be back.

Great food from good sources and the menu changes every now and then. Been here twice and really enjoyed it. Always the best place to bring visitors from out of town for a good meal!

So this is my first time reviewing Moonstone. I've been there twice now. The first time I was thoroughly underwhelmed, the 2nd time, last week, I was positively satisfied. The first time I will take on myself. I ordered the black bean veggie burger, which frankly, sucked. It fell apart, and pretty bland on flavor. Why offer this? I guess a black bean burger is unique or something. I should have gone for something else. Something like a veggie burger is just gonna be lame at a place like this. So that's on me. We had a bottle of wine, and we didn't want to spend too much and it was the only sub $30 red wine on the menu, and it sucked too. But again... that's on me. Overall, it was an ok experience but not for the price. The service was good and hey, they poured the wine in Riedels, so that was cool. But not impressed, especially considering our meal was around $80. So.... second visit: Went at happy hour, Booyah. $3 Stella Artois. Would like to see a light ale on the menu, such as Allagash White or Duvel, or Hoegarden. Also, I think this place would benefit from a nice imported German lager like a Weihenstephaner. Mostly saying that because they seem to have a lot of fish on the menu and with specials. Ok, so in addition to the $3 Stella, the cocktails were $2 off and so were appetizers. All good. We got the Calamari. Soggy and not what i Expected, but then the more I ate it the more I realized there was a method to the madness. This was a light a super flavorful calamari. The gastrique was cool, not amazing or anything, but nice variation from typical tartar sauce. The Chipotle sauce was solid. Not too strong on the smoke flavor. By the time I finished all the tentacles I was a fan of the less than crispy breading. It was definitely quality calamari. My only hit on this is that the peanuts were not crushed. Need to release the flavor. Moving on to main dish: I got the Fish tacos. One Word: Fantastic. Again, kinda soggy on the breading, but there was a method to this madness. also, it just comes out as a big fillet of fish, on a bed of tasty slaw with mini tortillas. Absolutely dig those mini tortillas. The slaw was plentiful and tasty. Loved making my own tacos. Maybe would have preferred one more mini tortilla, but eh.. no big deal. Great dish and well priced. Moonstone gets the gourmet fish taco right. Fiancee got the beef burger, but she asked for Munster cheese; meh. We both agreed that was not a good choice. Should have gone with blue or Gorgonzola, and that thing would have been a 5 star burger. I would not give people the choice of a bad fitting cheese like Munster. The only other cheese besides blue or Gorgonzola that I'd let people choose from is classic sharp cheddar, or pepper jack, can I get an amen? Was a very flavorful burger though. So the cocktails..... Let me tell you about the "Capsicum Junkie". THIS is what a spicy cocktail should aspire to be. Made from vodka, but had some kick. Didn't even taste the vodka, (as is desired, since too much mouth wash vodka flavor is a great way to ruin a drink) The spice was not your typical Tabasco or tapatio hot sauce flavor. Most definitely had to have been from a freshly juiced/pressed/grinded pepper. Not sure what pepper that was, but it had a really great earthy flavor to it along with the spicy kick. I am a major fan and want to go back soon just for that cocktail (and another fish taco). Service was solid, except that we were asked to move seating because apparently we were sitting in one of their most regular customer's most favorite seat who called in to reserve their spot which we were sitting in.... okaaaay then, I guess we'll get up and move so as to not set off an OCD shitstorm. Was not exactly stoked on that, but then the waitress said they were gonna comp us a dessert. Aaaaaaand we're friends again. We got the moonpie. Yum. Wish I had some ice cream with it. Here is my only reason for not giving this place 5 stars (at the moment), besides the first visit being mediocre, and it may come off as kinda lame, but this is it: Ambiance SUCKS. The atmosphere just feels casual and unimpressive. I can't help but let it effect my overall feeling of the place. Maybe it's nicer after dark but I mean, pair that up with being next door to a Starbucks and a Jamba juice, and what can I say? Appearances matter at this price. Also, the booth seats were not very comfortable. I'll give them star 5 stars soon if food stays good. Overall great food, but need to up their game on ambiance for the price range they are in.

We were in this little town for a short getaway this weekend and were trying to find a decent meal. Based on the reviews on Yelp we ended up here and I think it must have been at about 10 minutes after two. Being over 30, we aren't attached to our cell phones and had no idea what time it was and were looking forward to a decent mea and didn't realize lunch ceases at 2 on the dot. So we ordered a cocktail and were ready to order lunch just to be told the kitchen was closed and the icky Bistro menu was all that was available. Bistro = Carbs galore and unhealthy and I can't eat it..! I tried to get my husband to cancel my 13.00 dollar cocktail but it was too late and if the server had any smarts, he would have warned us that lunch was over before we sat down. At least that's my experience here in the Bay. So after all this is over and we are getting ready to leave, the host tells us: he would have made me lunch? (Really dude) I ended up having to eat food from a grocery store. I'm on a strict protein / no salt diet..so here is my tip to the untrained waiter that probably called me a nasty name and thinks I owe him a tip: LEARN HOW TO WAIT ON A TABLE PROPERLY~ You're welcome. This is much more valuable that the tip I would have given you at 20% DUDE

Terrific dinning experience. Sit at the bar, watch the head chef encourage the staff to make great food for everyone. High end food, reasonable prices and non traditional surprising menu. GO it's a five star!

This place is really good. I love that their menu changes with the seasons and it's usually full of amazing sounding and beyond unique items. I love that you can watch the chef cook. I don't eat meat or dairy so that keeps my options very limited. If my husband was reviewing this he would definitely give it 5 stars for the food. I've had the black bean burger and absolutely loved it. But that was many moons ago, haha, and the next time I ate there I had the mushroom quinoa burger. I didn't think it was great but good. There were a few items that was not served with it such as the candied jalapeños. When I asked my server what the deal was she brought out normal jalapeños which was fine but still not what was listed on the menu. Their fries (pommes frites) are incredible. They have an awesome fresh salad that I always get too. Amazing. And their mixed drink/beer selection rocks, they have a great bartender. I have a little beef with how 'upscale" it tries to be and in turn they never really treat us with much respect. No we are not 40+ or wear slacks but I've worked in the food industry for years and give amazing tips, if I do say so myself. The servers always seem more attentive to their other tables and the hostess usually seems turned off whenever we come in. Which is strange since I would never call Redding an upscale town. But overall an amazing restaurant in Redding.

Great local food! I would definitely give this place a try for a date night. Small, intimate restaurant near Holiday shopping center. Try the cocktails too - jalapeno mixed drink (fancy name, can't remember) but it is the best!! I wish they changed their menu more often...since I go a lot and have tried everything. ;)

We had dinner here when we were in town for the annular solar eclipse. It may be one of the best restaurants in Redding, it certainly looked good in the reviews. And it was good, except... We had the "Salmon Fingerling Potatoes" as an appetizer, which was 6 skinny potato halves, each with a glob of a salmon / cream cheese mix on top. It was pretty good, but was more cream cheese than salmon or potato... We also had the "Smoked Strawberries" as an appetizer, which turned out to be 4 strawberries and 16 almonds with a dipping sauce. Sort of spare... I had the "Denizen of the Deep", which was a small slab of salmon, which was fine and well prepared, but sat atop a bed of noodles that were just... not so great. Said to be homemade, but perhaps made some time ago - just not ... what I expected... I guess what I'm getting at is that you can leave sort of hungry from this place - it puts on a good show for the menu, but the execution, at least for our dinner, was not exceptional and left us wanting more. Then came the bill, the only thing not small about our experience here. Clearly priced as if offering a exceptional experience. I really wish I could give it more stars; we had high hopes from the menu online and it seems like it could be a great experience. Perhaps we just had an off night. Anyway, it still may be the best food you can find in Redding, but be prepared to adjust your expectations.

The staff here is always really great. Great drinks here but you have to go through HUGE menu... I would suggest their version of a French 75. Really fresh menu and vibe. The burgers are good, boasting house made pickles. Can't go wrong with salad or fries. The guy next to me had the pan fried chicken. I think I will have to have that next time.

  • Jane C.

To start, the drink menu is extensive, creative, & seasonal. The menu features local ingredients & that is highlighted right in the menu. I went with a party of 6 & every single dish ordered was impeccable. We all want to go back during our time in Redding. The restaurant is located in a strip mall but you would never know it once inside, the ambiance is great. The bartender & waitress we encountered were well-versed in the menu & were great for suggestions on what to order.

Recently made a first time visit to Moonstone Bistro. Yum, yum, yum! We had the pan-fried chicken and pork chops. This is comfort food at its best. Excellent flavor and presentation. Our waiter, Carlton recommended a delicious wine. Two gripes: 1. There was a lamb special, which sounded delicious, however, one of the ingredients causes problems for me. I was happy to see a Stackhouse Lamb on the regular menu, so ordered that instead. I was disappointed that the regular lamb was not available and so had to wait while another entree was prepared for me, 2. We were seated at a table in a high traffic area, with not a lot of room for people to pass in between. Our chairs got bumped several times. Neither of these things will prevent us from a return trip. One of the nicest features was seeing local produce and meats on the menu. For example: Julia's Fruitstand--Yeah! and Stackhouse Lamb--great lamb! This is a nice place for a low key, casual, but slightly upscale, meal to treat your honey or friends!

Really happy that Redding has this place; the most upscale restaurant I have dined at in Redding so far, with delicious food! Their soup was amazing as was the calamari appetizer. I loved the vege burger (perhaps the best I have had), but my wife thought it was only okay. Nicely appointed and good service. Definitely on the pricier side for Redding, but worth it for any special occasion.

Amazing food, Excellent Wines and Beers, Takes a while to get in but so so worth it. Filet Mignon w/ mashed red potatoes and asparagus was so perfectly done..

For Redding standards, this is the best burger in town. I would have to agree. Coming from LA though, I would say it is above average. A group of us recently took a trip up north and wanted to treat some of the friends out. They chose this place and we all got the burger in different variation. We walked out satisfied.

Great lobster risotto. The best place for lunch in redding. Conveniently close to the hospital, in case an emergency comes up. Can't go wrong with any selection on the menu.

I love this place. I love their responsible menu, the delicious drinks, the professional waitstaff, and their amazing food. I like that I can come here for a special occasion (we just went for our anniversary) or for a yummy brunch. I'm not a fan of calamari but THEIR calamari is delicious with so many different flavors and textures. I love their wine selections as well as the fact that they try to do as much local ingredients as possible and give back to the community/ animals. Oh, and the molten chocolate soufflé is a dessert to die for! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because once while sitting up at the bar with a coworker we witnessed one chef (or maybe kitchen manager, not sure) totally berating another employee in the middle of the kitchen in front of the bar. Totally awkward and unprofessional. It actually interrupted our conversation because it created such a scene drew so much attention. Do that stuff in private, man. Your guests don't want to see that. Rude.

we tried this restaurant and we won't be going back, I ordered the overpriced steak and it was inedible, too much gristle. When the waitress asked how it was I couldn't answer because I was removing a piece from my mouth. When I complained I was offered a free dessert, but I reminded them they charged $34.00 for a bad steak. They gave me half off and attitude. So much for a pleasant night out.

I'm okay with paying what some people would consider a lot, or even too much, for a nice dining experience. If I can't afford the meal, I'm not walking into the restaurant. What I'm not okay with, is paying the price for an enjoyable dining experience, without being treated as a valued customer. I've given Moonstone Bistro two stars because I appreciate what they are trying to offer the community, and because after all was said and done, my meal did taste delicious; unfortunately my friend did not fare so well with his meal. An unwillingness to make us feel welcome, coupled with inattentiveness to simple requests, translated to poor service. I decided to try the restaurant based on one reviewers positive comments about his sisters vegan meal. Unfortunately, I didn't experience the attentive service they received, and I certainly wasn't offered any tofu. As soon as the server brought menus I asked him what could be made vegan. "Possibly nothing" he replied. Finally he went to ask the kitchen, but already we were off to a bad start. I don't care if you're sure there's nothing vegan on the menu. For a restaurant of this caliber, the correct response is let me check with the chef. Only the chefs know exactly what is in the kitchen, and what they are or aren't willing to prepare. The friend I was dining with is far from vegan, he eats almost everything; except onions and garlic. He informed our server that he is allergic to both, before ordering the dish he had his eye on. They couldn't make it without (and I understand why), so he asked if they could just make some pasta with veggies for him. When his pasta came out, as yummy as it looked, it was topped with a pile of caramelized onions, and the only veggies in sight were a few snap peas. Apparently, sans onions, it was just plain pasta with olive oil and a little bit of goat cheese. Judging from the rocky start with our server, I'm guessing it wasn't the chef who forgot about the allergy. The owner had a lengthily chat with the table next to us, but she didn't even acknowledge our presence. I know I'm not a familiar face, but some friendly quality control of both food and service has the potential to turn a bad first impression into a distant memory, and in doing so gain more loyal customers. My veggie ramen was yummy, but with a price tag of over $30, I expected better service from this establishment.

It is a middle size restaurant. They just changed their menu. Yesterday it was full. But the waitress were very helpful. I got a New York Steak, it was delicious. Plus a glass of wine. I paid 47 $. Not bad. I didn't like Redding but if i come here again i will surely visit Moonstone.

We saw the good reviews on Yelp so decided to give the place a try. The food was a bit pricey and the menu wasn't very big. My wife's fish tacos were a bit spicy for her, but my Moonstone burger was pretty awesome. Overall, it was more hype than what it's worth. We probably won't be back.

My wife and I recently had dinner at Moonstone Bistro for our anniversary. The restaurant is always clean and the service was fine. I like the wine list and the microbrews that they have available. We have eaten at Moonstone over 10 times in the past few years and the food this go around was off for some reason. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon Steak Medium Rare. When she received her meal the steak was seared on each side and virtually raw and cold on the inside. One of our favorite appetizer is the Calamari Appetizer, with the peanuts and vinegar based dipping sauce. This time, the breading was not sticking to the calamari and the taste was different. I ordered the Halibut, which was very good, but on the menu they described the dish coming with fresh scallops, and instead they placed shrimp with the entree, not a big deal unless you were looking forward to scallops. The food was good, but not great, and when you pay $34 for a steak it should be great. I think that many times restaurants rely on reputation, which Moonstone definitely has a good one, but at the end of the day, they have to continue to strive for excellence every day, otherwise popularity and ratings change. We will definitely give Moonstone another chance in the future, 1 bad experience out of a dozen or so isn't enough to keep us away, lets just hope this trend does not continue.

I live in San Francisco and while visiting my daughter in Redding went to Moonstone because she had been told it was the "best restaurant in Redding." My experience echoes that of Justin R. It's trendy and hip, but the food is mediocre and expensive. A polenta main dish was priced at $24--way higher than comparable dishes in SF. My daughter had the steak ($32), which she liked, but it was a fussy dish, with green beans--oops, excuse me, they were haricots verts--sprinkled on top that added nothing to the flavor. My hamburger ($14.95) came with a choice of salad, "soup d'jour" [sic] or pommes frites. I chose the fries, which were cut in such tiny pieces that they were overly crisp and dry. The burger also came with aioli and pickled cucumber slices that had no flavor. This is a beautiful place, and I can understand that locals might want to eat here for a special occasion. Be warned that the prices are super high and the menu is pretentious and full of faux or misspelled French names.

Moonstone Bistro is a cute little spot located in a strip mall. Driving into the mall is off putting; but the Bistro, with a dining patio, is a gem. Skip the outside patio and dine inside where the owner/head chef will greet you. I had the pork selection that was succulent and flavorful, not being a fan of pork I was pleasantly surprised. The wine list was well appointed with several varietals. The wait staff was attentive; but not overwhelming.

Love, love, love this place. Definitely the best in town if you like fine dining. The atmosphere, food and service always delivers. This is the place I go when I want to have great food and nice wine. I highly recommend it for Lunch, Brunch and Dinner!

What a surprise! You really don't expect something like Moonstone Bistro in Redding. Four of us had an early dinner on a Saturday...to say we were blown away by the setting, service and most of all, the food would be an understatement. Of course, restaurants that are run by husband/wife teams can be outstanding or go bust. This bistro has been in operation for about five years...and it's a well run place. The drinks are large and well constructed and reasonably priced in today's market. The service was attentive and professional...you really didn't have to ask for anything...our waitress (Kelly) was on point throughout our meal. The little dinner rolls are something out of long winters I'd spent in Alberta, Canada...crisp on the outside and tender and bursting with flavour on the inside. Kelly made sure we had all we wanted. The shrimp tacos were a major hit...do not, repeat, do not leave without an order or two of these...perfect combination of spice, heat and flavour...the order size was plenty for hungry person. The chicken/shirmp poblamo chilli dish is still being discussed as a marvel of flavour combinations...everything was delish and moderately priced...for a place like Redding to have a dining spot like the Moonstone Bistro is amazing. Go, eat, enjoy...you will not be disappointed.

I can't believe the good reviews that I am reading. This was the worst meal I have ever been served. We came in for dinner last Thursday night. I ordered the pasta carbonara. It tasted like old mac and cheese reheated. It was dry and just tasted like salt. There was a large fried pork belly on top with 2 poached eggs. I sent it back and it was 24.00!!!!!!!!!!!! The 1 star is for the ice water.

I write this review not to discourage others from going, but to give feedback to the owners about my recent experience. I have eaten at this several times but the last 3 experiences have left me less than satisfied. The asparagus ratatouille currently on the menu was ok, but $15 for essentially a cup of vegetables. I can't help but feeling ripped off. Now to the service. Arrived early to beat the lunch crowd (11:45), two other tables seated. Lunch served an hour latter. While apologetic for slow service, I expected more, a free soda or discount would have been nice gesture. Prior visit I was served the wrong dish, while tasty was the wrong dish and given the slow service not really interested in sending it back. The booths and chairs are aging, not comfortable sitting on a broken spring. The understaffed cooking staff had one chef constantly wiping his nose on his upper sleeve, Not good in an open kitchen.

Not a bad place but certainly overpriced. We both had the filet mignon, I think $36 for 6 or 8 ounce. Tender but not much flavor. If I remember if you want a salad it's an extra $7. Service was adequate but certainly not worthy of the prices charged. On the night we were there most diners were ordering burgers. Maybe we should have had that. For two diners and I think three cocktails the bill was about $125. Simply not worth the expense. You can get a much better fillet at jacks for much cheaper. I don't think we will be going back. There are simply much better places to eat than here and certainly for probably half the price. But then, everyone sees different things out there. Many people I think would be happy with it but I don't see the price justification.

Thank you for being here in Redding,Ca.!!!!! Went last night for my 45th bday dinner with my family. Everyone was impressed! The portions were good sized. Homestyle food with a flair!!!! We loved it all! Also the wait staff seems professional which I find rare in Redding, great hospitality and food done right!

There's nothing better than tasty food and sweet friendly people to turn a sticky situation around. My boyfriend and I were headed up to Ashland today from the Bay Area, and we sadly got stranded in Redding due to the I-5 Northbound closure due to severe weather through Siskiyou County. After finding a motel in the middle of Sketchville, we were irritable, and we were HUNGRY. We found this place on Yelp and after looking at the delectable menu items, we decided to give it a shot. Our waitress Kristin was genuinely friendly and attentive, and the food was incredible. Garlic fries are usually overblown with cloves, but these had just the right amount of flavor and crispness. I got the Veggie burger, which was made completely out of black beans and tofu and sat on a house-made bun, dressed with avocado, muenster cheese, and tortilla strips. None of that weird soy protein stuff. We wanted to try one of the epic-looking desserts more than anything, but we seriously couldn't fit anything else into our tummies. Oh, and they give you house-made bread rolls before your meal. I could have eaten about 47 of them.

If this is the top-rated restaurant in Chico, keep on driving north! Chicken burger was average and my boyfriend's filet mignon was tough. Nice wait staff and good wine list, however. Next to a Starbucks in a strip mall.

The food is just terrific. Fish tacos, really yummy unique plating. But go try the Brazilian chili Prawn Appetizer. It is so good you will have to order it twice- I did. Fresh tortilla, pineapple salsa, chili sauce drizzle, over a perfectly cooked prawn. Delicious. Wine comes in an 8oz pour which is really nice. Matt the bartender is really helpful, offers good suggestions. The owners seem friendly and keep a really positive atmosphere. The chefs are clean and professional- it is an open concept kitchen so you can watch them cooking away. The restaurant is small but they are workin a small space to its maximum potential. Make a reservation. I went in on a Tuesday and there was only bar seating at 7:30.

We were traveling from San Diego and we wanted to find a GOOD place to eat in Redding that was not just a steak or coffee shop fare. We typically fly into Sacramento and eat there before driving north. This time we decided to take a chance and discovered Moonstone Bistro. The food and service were excellent. The ambiance is not what you would expect in a shopping center restaurant. It showed thought and creativity. The food was fresh and certainly not ordinary. The sauces are homemade and brilliant. In addition, hey had a wonderful wine list. Not the usual dull list found in so many food establishments. I would never think to suggest a Tehema county wine, but I would now. Desserts ... YUMMY. They tempt you with fresh apple pie as you walk in the door. After ordering three different desserts, we decided it was time to end our gluttony. Take the time to find them, you will be surprised and pleased with the results.

Definitely time for an update as I am no longer a vegetarian. The food is so good. The beef is outstanding, especially the filet mignon and New york steaks I have consumed there at some point. The restaurant is small and intimate, but delicious and worth it. Enjoy.

I took my niece out to dinner last night at Moonstone Bistro. The first thing that struck me was the atmosphere. It was classy and understated. For dinner we had the Lobster Risotto. It was very good but it was an entirely different spin on Risotto. For are entree we both had the Alaskan Cod with Aioli and Spanish Squash and for dessert ,deconstructed banana spilt with carmelized banana's and a peppermint ice cream to die for. The entire experience was wonderful and the staff very attentive. I will definatly be back for more wonderful food.

In my travels I've had a few great dinners, and some not so great. Moonstone Bistro will be the in between i might recall it if you remind me its there restaurant. Appearance on the outside you wouldn't expect a lot. located a supermarket district next to a Starbucks, but when entering the atmosphere is quite pleasing to the eye. It might be a little crowded sitting in the main section on the floor, because most of the time i was getting bumped by a waiter, but the wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the cuisine. Now the food on the other hand was a toss up, since my wife ordered a well prepared filet mignon, while i ordered the pan seared Lamb with pears. Ive had something like this at other restaurants and have enjoyed it in the past. Except while my wife's dish was good, i found mine misleading. First the lamb looked more boiled in peaches than pan seared with pears. Yes, peaches were in the dish mixed with the wild rice that came with it, and covered my piece of lamb. giving it a really sweet and soggy mess to my lamb. For the price you paid i was not expecting this. For the price i could have went to a maybe less ambiance venue, and gotten an appetizer, drinks, entree, and desert for the same prize as just two entrees. will go back again to see if i went on a bad night.

This place was a fantastic hideaway tucked away from main Redding. Service was prompt and friendly and our server, Regina, was too sweet. Our entrees were delicious, and my fresh squeezed mojito was perfectly refreshing, but the best part was the chocolate soufflé. One of the best I've had!! We will definitely be back!!

the BEST place to eat in Redding! We were camping at Shasta Lake for our anniversary and went into town for dinner one night. i think i found the place from google. the menu looked amazing so we went. The location was kind of weird but the place is super cool. we went all out and ordered two appetizers, our entrees, and a bomb peanut butter elvis chocolate bacon dessert. something like that :) the calamari was DIVINE!! and the asparagus with crisp pork belly and poached eggs, mmm!! husband got the fish tacos and it was HUGE! and delicious!! i think his was better than mine. I got the pasta carbonara which was amazing as well. the drink menu was LEGIT!! I'm sooo bummed i live 3 hours away from this place! i want to try every single thing on the menu. the ingredients are fresh and seasonal, and totally made with love and mad skills! our waitress was sweet. overall GREAT!! TRY IT!

Stopped into Redding on our way North and wow... just wow. This place was an amazing find and well worth the 20 minute drive into town to find it. The food is excellent and so is the staff. We will be back next time we are rolling through Redding!

Finally got to try this place! Intimidated by coast, I've been reluctant to stop by Moonstone Bistro, but curiosity eventually got the best of me. So, I saved up my pennies, and took my BF to lunch this week. We started with the Calamari appetizer which has been raved about a decent amount on here, and in no way did it disappoint. I'm not even a huge fan of the stuff, but this was succulent, crunchy goodness. I also loved the accompanying Chipotle and Jalapeño sauces. Honestly, I could just go back and eat the Calamari and be happy. My Honey ordered the Dagwood, a triple Decker of a sandwich filled with grilled chicken, avocado, tomato, and crispy onion straws. I had the Flatbread steak wrap. The portions were enormous! If I would have known, we'd have split our meal for sure. The sandwiches were tasty, but I'm not entirely sure they're worth 13-16 bucks each. The wait service was very attentive and friendly. The ambiance was fresh and modern, every table adorned with fresh cut flowers. I'm looking forward to cracking the piggy bank again so I can come back and try dinner. Four stars for now, but the calamari gets 5!

Went here for NYE with another couple. We ordered the lobster appetizer and it was delicious but pricey & very small. The boys ordered the Prime Rib dinner, it was perfectly cooked. The girls ordered the cod with black eyed peas. Wasn't overly tasteful but all around good. I liked the atmosphere and decor. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Everyone was dressed up in sequins and very festive NYE attire. I loved that. I ordered some martini with "debutante" in the name, it was excellent. Had 2 bottles of the Domaine Chandon red wine and it was delicious. 40$ per bottle. Had 4 desserts as well. Our bill between the 4 of us came to a little over $300. Ouch. I would go here again for a special occasion because the food was good, fresh and it's just nice to go to a place in Redding worth dressing up for. I wasn't overly pleased with the seating. There was one blonde waitress in particular that kept bumping our seats as she would roughly walk by. It was pretty crowded in there.

We drive here from Red Bluff, and are never disappointed (except one time when we were nearly turned away b/c they were full--fortunately there was space at the bar which was fun since it was just 2 of us). The best characterization of the food is "full of flavor"-not necessarily rich, but very flavorful. Menu changes frequently to reflect what is locally inseason. Breads/rolls are cooked thru-out the day (I watched them pull several pans out of the oven while I was eating) and they are lovely. I had lamb-perfectly done! Cool cranberry based relish and small pasta with chunks of pumpkin and other tasty stuff. Hubby had salmon and I never got to try it! It was all gone, quickly. I love that there are pages of cocktails to try, and watching the bartender is entertainment. Service is always courteous. Desserts divine. Won't you move to Red Bluff????

Found this restaurant on the way back home from visiting the kids in California. Though it is off the I5 corridor a few miles, the great food made the short side trip well worth the effort!! It was Sunday so they have excellently done but limited Suday Brunch menu. I had the best Eggs Benedict ever. Superbly done. My wife had a veggie burger, daughter the house hamburger and my son the Joe's Special. I would have been just as happy with anyone of them. Everything was great! We will definitely go again the next time we're rolling through Redding.

I simply love this place-- the best restaurant in Redding ! From ambiance to unforgetable meals and creative chefs. Wonderful occaisions and celebrations place with outstanding service attentive but never annoying. Please note for fresh, organic, free range and sustainable ingredients, expect to pay more.

Moonstone Bistro is located in a strip mall, next door to a Starbucks, but don't let this deter you from visiting. The decor inside is very nice, if a little dark, with maybe a dozen tables. It reminded me of a pricier version of the Nordstrom's cafe, with table-service. We visited yesterday after reading the reviews on Yelp, and were a little surprised, and disappointed, that because it was a Sunday, most of the menu was not available. No appetizers, nor most of the entree options, instead they were serving brunch, and a limited entree menu of hamburgers and salads. The brunch options were buckwheat pancakes, french toast (with pumpkin bread), a couple of eggs benedict variations, and a few combination dishes (i.e., eggs, bacon and pancakes). The coffee is served in a french press, and looked like fun but we passed since $7 seemed a bit high for coffee to me. We were brought a plate of biscuits, and they were delicious. Buttery and a little sweet, and moist, absolutely divine. My hamburger was fairly good, if a little overpriced. I liked the homemade pickles that came with it, and the fries were delicious, as were the potatoes that came with my sister's egg's benedict. Rosemary seems to be the favored herb at Moonstone. Overall, a good option for an upscale lunch or brunch, expect to pay about $20/person for entrees. I feel like the "$$" on Yelp is a bit misleading, as there's a huge difference between $11 and $30, especially when it comes to lunch in a little cafe. $20 for dinner might be moderate, but it's on the high end when it comes to a hamburger in Redding.

Went to Moonstone Bistro last night for the first time. Everything about it was wonderful. The drinks and food were great. The staff was friendly and professional. The service was prompt. This is a small intimate place with a hometown but modern feel. We will definitely be back and I plan on trying everything on the menu. Can't wait to take our out of town friends and family also.

I don't know what restaurant the other reviewers went to but I've had nothing but horrible service at Moonstone. I received a $100 giftcard for my wedding so on our honeymoon we went there and the service was okay so we went back a few weeks later to use the rest of our gift. The service was horrible. The manager or owner treated us like trash. we will never go back even though we still have money left on our giftcard.

Went here on Mothers day and our reservation was not ready. We were early and it was no problem, but they were nice and gave us a seat on the patio. the waitress was very courtious and brought our drinks and took our orders. There was a lot of options and it was difficult to decide. When we made the orders. the meals were all delightful, I and two others had the seafood delight and all of us found it delicious. Two had steaks and they were tender and grilled to perfection. My wife had a pasta dish and it was also great. The bill was high but it was such a fine establishment and the food was well prepared it was a well appointed place with fine employees. We will go back again

This place is getting a lot of crap along the lines of "people in Redding don't know good food when it hits them in face, and should really try the Bay Area for cuisine". But this isn't the Bay Area, this is Redding, and frankly, this is the best food I have ever had in Redding. Food ratings are like driving: you have to have your Bay Area/Southern California driving/food scale, and your alternate back up one for when you go home to Redding. Both times I have been here it's been absolutely delicious, and once we saw the guy from the farmer's market delivering produce, so you know it actually is fresh and local and organic and all that jazz (which I'm kind of amazed that anyone markets in Redding, because you're probably getting like .05% of the population with that hook). But anyway, it was really good. And a massively huge amount of food (could easily split an entree, maybe even three ways).

Oh, how I love restaurants where I can order a dish and not have to make a dozen changes to it to make it meatless! I had the Israeli Couscous: couscous, butternut squash, walnuts, spinach and pomegranate. It could have used a bit more squash, but I also love squash a bit more than the average person. I also had their French press coffee, which was fun and delightful.

Fish tacos were amazing. Fresh tortillas with a light battered white fluffy fish. Highly recommend this place if you are in the Redding area. This place should be in a big city. Our waitress, Melissa, was a delight!

It was Sunday morning, just before 10, and the man in black stood impatiently outside the Moonstone Bistro. I had been shadowing him for two days after picking up his trail at a car wash in Burbank. 544 miles, 3 car changes, and two bedbug ridden hotels later, I find myself exhausted in this small Northern CA town silently cursing my career choice for the millionth time. The restaurant, sitting at the corner of a newly developed shopping complex, was preparing to open for brunch. I could make out staff bustling around inside, although the neon 'Open' sign still hung unlit in the window. I watched as a young man in a white shirt and jeans walked up to the front of the bistro, picked up a newspaper, and proceeded to walk into the restaurant. Well, I guess it's open after all. Suddenly, a tall Asian girl was standing next to the man in black. Where did she come from? This woman wasn't in the file, but she was stunning and made a California dime look like a Canadian nickel. They both head inside, its game time. I wait five minutes and step into the restaurant. The man in jeans was now sitting at a bar overlooking an open kitchen, and my targets have taken a seat at the back of the restaurant near the restrooms. The waitress approaches me with a smile that is much too sunny for my current mood, and asks if it will be just me. I nod and out of habit I start walking toward a table against the wall. I learned a long time ago to always keep the room and the front door in sight at all times. I sat down and immediately began to take in the details. The place held about 15 tables of different sizes. The décor included shades of black, gray, and silver, and was very elegant given the location. Whoever designed this place knew what they were doing. On the black, wood tables were short flower vases that held colorful dandelions. There was fresh condensation on the outside of the vases, indicating that these flowers were likely cut, arranged, and watered just this morning. The bar appeared to have a great view of the kitchen, and the young man, who clearly had no interest in reading the newspaper or eating, was currently flirting with the waitress. I made a note to keep an eye on him in case things went south in here. The man in black and the Asian woman were sitting a few tables to my left, and I could barely hear what seemed like harmless chatter. I took a quick look through the impressive menu and found the Sunday Brunch section, then ordered the Moonstone Traitor Benedict (given who the man in black was, it only seemed fitting), and a black coffee. Deciding to try and get a closer look at this mystery woman, I got up and made my way to the restrooms. As I passed their table they immediately stopped talking. Unlike the nervous man in black, the woman seemed to be very calm and in control of the situation. Not for the first time, I wondered if this could be the break I was looking for. As I was walking back I noticed someone had placed a large French press on my table, along with a coffee mug and a tall glass of ice water with a slice of lemon straddling the rim. I sat down, wondering if the coffee had time to brew, when my heart stopped and every muscle in my body tensed up. That sound; did I hear what I thought I heard? Yes, it was barely audible, but unmistakable. A soft, methodical ticking sound was emanating from something on my table. Tick-tick-tick. I looked around quickly, something wasn't right. All the players in the room were still in the same spots. If someone had caught on and was trying to finish me off, they were doing a poor job of getting out of the way. Tick-tick-tick. The relentless ticking appeared to be coming from behind the French press. I slowly slid the press to the side and there it was...an egg timer! Relief washed over me just as the timer hit zero and rang. Well, I guess the coffee is ready. My breakfast arrived shortly thereafter and was absolutely spectacular. There was a house-made toasted brioche topped with organic spinach, sautéed mushrooms, avocado, a couple beautifully poached eggs, and an amazing béarnaise sauce. On the side were some brunch style potatoes, which were small, cubed potatoes stir fried and sprinkled with salt flakes. As I was eating I heard the man in black start speaking in Chinese. My ears perked up, now things were getting interesting. I couldn't understand everything, but I did make out the woman tell him three things: Redding Jichang, yibai shijiu, and jiuyue wu ri. (Redding airport, 119, and September 5th). Note to self, remember to send a thank you card to my Chinese teacher at UCLA. Just then my phone chipped with a text. My eyes grew wide as I read it. Things just got ugly and I had to leave fast. The man in black and the mystery woman would have to wait. Besides, I had a date and flight number now. As I headed for the front door I couldn't help but think, I guess even bad guys can eat good food.

Road trip. Thank you YELP! Excellent. Never expected anything like this amazing, healthy, gourmet, in Redding. Calamari/ amazing! With jalapeno peppers and wonderful dips, not heavy fried, surprisingly light ! The prawns were yummy! Such interesting blends of flavors in all their dishes. Scallop dish was excellent, again interesting additions of ingredients. Burger was delicious. House salad, organic greens. All wonderful, for this LA prima dona foodie. Thank you YELP!

In the middle of Redding we found this shining star. The food was good. The atmosphere was comfortable and modern and the food was creative and good! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the service was SLOWWWWWWWWW.................... but they were nice and the next time I'm in Redding I'm gonna take my uncle for dinner here.

There's a PARTY in my MOUTH & my mouth is at MOONSTONE BISTRO!!!! You definitely get what you pay for here. Fine dining prices, yes, but were talking organic & natural ingredients. How do you type a "smooch" sign for Flavor Combinations, because all I can say is "AWESOME". Make reservations because more than likely they will be busy. If it's busy & you forget to make your reservation, like I did tonight, have no fear the owners are here. Made room for us quickly & bought us the most amazing calamari appetizer i have ever tasted, just for waiting. So let's sum this all up..... Party in my mouth, smoochy sign, reservations.... This is the truth as I know it. I told you so.... If you are ever looking for more info on whats RAD in Redding, head over to our Facebook page and feel free to ask... This has become our new Lunch getaway. The service is always top notch and I love the fact the change their menu every 6 weeks or so. For Redding this kind of food is very hard to find, The place itself is a little on the small side, but they make VERY good use of the space..thumbs up for the designer of this place. Very friendly place, after our 2nd visit.. we noticed that chief and staff greet us every time, which is a simply nice touch. Their lunch time soup is always worth trying, and the prices are very reasonable. These guys know how to deliver good food at good prices

Went here for Sunday brunch. Pros: creative, lengthy cocktail menu and a diverse food menu. Service was friendly too. Cons: took 15-minutes to prepare my cocktail and 45-minutes for food to come out (even though only a few tables were occupied). Food was unevenly seasoned. Despite a few areas for improvement, Moonstone is a welcome addition to the bland food scene in Redding.

Had a great lunch last Wednesday. We arrived too late for the regular lunch menu, so we ordered the fish tacos -- IMHO far too elegant and filling to call a "taco"! Delicious mild fish, crispy mini-tortillas, fresh colorful cole slaw, generous quantity, beautifully served. Clean, pleasant decor, very friendly and attentive service. We don't live near Redding but often drive through on our way to visit family, and I will definitely be back to try more things on Moonstone's menu :) Big thumbs up!

Excellent food with a good menu selection. All of our dishes had a fresh local flare to them. They have an excellent and large wine list that their manager hand picks. The food is a little pricey but well worth it if you like eating good food.

Tonight I met some friends here. Thankfully I had scoped out the menu first as I forgot my glasses and couldn't read the menu. I had already decided to try the veggie burger. It was the best I have had outside my house! One friend had the harvest salad with chicken and the other had the chicken which they both loved. We had wonderful wine and cocktails! This place is a real gem in Redding! The atmosphere is as good as it gets!

Almost 5 stars. I wanted to give 5 stars but there were just a couple of details I couldn't help but get stuck on. We lunched at on off peak time so the restaurant wasn't busy. The service was great! No complaints. Our server was fun and accommodating. He knew his menu and was helpful at recommendations. Couple of minor details that bugged me: -Chipped dishes. 3 in all. 1 water glass & two plates. -Plating. There were actually visible finger prints on the edge of my plate and presentations were so so. -Overly chilled white wine. I know, I know, this sounds so picky right? Over chilled white wine zaps the flavor right out of it. If I'm paying $10 for a glass of Chardonnay, I want to taste it. -Not enough wines-by-the-glass to choose from. Good wines. Just not enough. -Booths were not very comfy. The backs made you sit very straight up and didn't have much cushion. I think I would request a table next go around. Some of the food was perfect and some fell a little short. Here is the 4-1-1: Calamari: Unique preparation that we LOVED. The Calamari itself was a little on the chewy side. It might have been a tad overcooked which I'm sure is easy to do with Calamari. Not a big deal. Pumpkin Soup: Adorned with Creme Fraiche and toasted pumpkin seeds. The three of us would have licked our cups clean if we had been somewhere in private. Fabulous! Prosciutto Wrapped Scallops: My husband's dish. He loved it. Photographed it for Facebook. Was ecstatic that the Scallops were cooked perfectly. Pan Seared Organic Chicken: I do love that most of Moonstone's food is organic and local. Cooked perfectly. Seasoning was forgettable. Brussel Sprouts and sweet potato were a nice side choice but the Brussels were a little undercooked and the potato was a little overcooked. It was still better than most dishes at most restaurants. Chocolate Souffle: O M G! Warm, gooey, sinfully good dessert. The French Press Coffee was a unique offering. It was super good and went perfectly with the dessert. Overrall, we loved our Moonstone Bistro adventure. I'm sure we will try it again on another visit to Redding. Maybe I can update with an added star upon a later visit? I hope. I love Moonstone but I want to LOVE, LOVE Moonstone.

Very tasty food and huge portions, BUT expensive. Cheapest lunch soup and salad $9.95. appetizers were big enough for a small appetite to be an entree. There were eleven of us, and at an off hour so they handled us well. Burgers were $14.00, but huge. Drinks were expensive. $2.95 for a coke. Good but costly.

My sister and I were driving from San Francisco to Portland and found Moonstone Bistro on yelp. My sister is Vegan so there are not a lot of options on the road so we try and stick to locally owned restaurants. Moonstone is indeed a very cute, well run eatery. The restaurant was full but we were able to sit at the bar which faces the open kitchen. Our waitress (Kristin) was exceptionally helpful and even brought the exec chef / owner over to see what he recommends as far as vegan options. He recommended their daily special with a teriyaki glazed tofu instead of the fish on offer for my sister, I chose the fish tacos off of the regular menu. As the bar faces a completely open kitchen, we were entertained by the exec chef commanding his brigade which I am always fascinated by. The special was great with house made noodles (or at least that's how they looked) the fish tacos were excellent with perfectly cooked fish and a nice cabbage slaw and were actually some of the best I have had in a while. All in all, Moonstone was a really great find and way more than you would expect for a nice dinner out. The prices were not cheap but overall, definitely highly recommended!!

Down a star.......Linguine and clams was overcooked fettucini and clams...... $18 Homemade noodles which are appreciated, but wrong shape, not cooked correctly............there is a difference! Soup was luke warm for a dinning companion, they made it right but why should we have to ask? The chocolate souffle was fabulous, order early as they make it right then. Coffee press is fab.! Their pressed coffee I cannot duplicate at home......maybe its the cream!

Quaint little place. The food is very good, fresh, & nicely prepared. I had the Traitor Benedict for brunch. Perfectly poached egg on toast with avocado & other veggies with bernaise! The potatoes were a little too salty. The wait staff was very pleasant & efficient. This is in a strip mall next to a Starbucks, lots of parking. I wish the restaurant was larger,it seemed cramped. There are few booths, mostly very small tables. Maybe in time they will move to a bigger, better location.

We were moving across country recently and found Moonstone on Yelp. We took a chance and it was really, really great food. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that it is small and it was packed. Which is not really their fault but goes to show how popular it is. They were able to fit us in two stools by the door though. We had sweet potato chips for an appetizer and I couldn't stop eating them. They were really tasty and a huge platter full of them. We got fish tacos and it was a full fish with little mini-tortillas and cole slaw. It was a different presentation and kind of do it yourself put together. It was very tasty. Definitely a place I'd recommend.

I'd like to start off by saying that I really honestly hate this stupid, snotty restaurant in general--more specifically, the stupid, snotty people that work in this dumb sham-show joint, probably more for everyone's pretension than their actual stupidity. The food at this place is not worth the price, and the place is not worth the general attitude of exclusivity demonstrated by nearly everyone who is employed here. The service can be good if you are able to encounter a person who doesn't have a stick up his or her you-know-what. The vulgar superficiality and snobbery of the characters that work at Moonstone Bistro is obvious--this I've accepted--but to have someone completely neglect and disregard a very special and important request while making me feel, quite frankly, like nothing, was absolutely unacceptable. Hey Yelp readers, have you ever had someone dismissing you with his or her every word and gesture? I'm specifically writing about an incident earlier this month in which I'd very politely and carefully informed the mindless and inconsiderate hostess that it was my mother's birthday and she did nothing either because she did not remember or care or both. We stayed for over an hour and watched the place pleasantly fill up. The restaurant is very tiny, and frequently, this hostess passed by our waitress, came near her, stood next to her and talked to her. I kept hoping that she would remember what I had said to her when the restaurant was practically empty with no other distractions--and she outwardly made it a point to let me know that she was not interested in my request and ignored me. She is of the "my sh** don't stink" persuasion along with others who work here...but trust me, honey, it does...just as much as the sorry attempts at fine cuisine at this ridiculously expensive, crap show. The wine burns going down my throat as well. Located next to Starbucks. Enjoy.

Not for big parties! Our family of 16 arrived at Moonstone bistro after a long day hiking Lassen National Park hoping to be served right away with decent food. But instead, we waited for a hour before the food finally arrvied with sub-standard quality. My sister's porkchop was hard as a brick, so was the fish my mom had - obviously over-cooked while the other dishes were being prepared. I noticed the other tables of 2 or 3 were served right away so I wasn't happy about the chef's ability to handle big parties. Definitely not going back!

My wife and I had lunch at the Bistro and once again had a superb dining experience. I ordered the Black Bean Fettuccini and my wife had the salmon. Everything was fresh, well prepared and the tasted great. The server was friendly, well informed about the menu and took great care of us. The place was full but the wait was short. Thank goodness we have this gem of a restaurant on the west side of Redding.

One thing consistent in Redding is that Moonstone's food is going to be fresh and delicious. Started out with Tiger Prawns- flash seared with caramelized garlic, on cilantro, avocado & asparagus salad, fresh bing cherry sweet & sour reduction For Lunch had: Crisped Panko Chicken Organic panko crusted chicken breast, fried rice cake stuffed with carrots, sugar snap peas & ginger, ponzu sauce, fresh cherry sweet & sour reduction She had: Three jumbo wild-caught scallops on garlic-dill mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas, patty pan squash, baby carrots, cilantro spinach nage After she had a glass or two of wine the meal came to around $70 but what is good food worth? I know most people in Redding would die to not see the meal outcome be around $20 a person but you pay for what you get.

Four of us had dinner at Moonstone last night. It was hit and miss. First, the hits: the Eel River Organic New York Steak with smashed sweet carrot & bacon hash, house ancho sauce, cheese stuffed roasted poblano pepper, cilantro chimichurri, butter cornbread crumble & cotija cheese was very good. I ordered it medium rare and it came more toward the rare (I know the difference) but I'd rather the kitchen err in that direction than to overcook this excellent cut. The Moonstone Burger (Prather Ranch ground beef on our house made roll, with cheddar, aioli, pickled cucumber & onion, organic herb & romaine salad, served with side salad) may be the best burger in Redding. For me, the real star dish was a made-to-order clam chowder, prepared with fresh-steamed clams and perfect little cubes of browned potatoes over the top - an unusual and creative take on the more usual potatoes-in-the-chowder. It's this kind of creativity that will set Moonstone above its competition. Now, the misses: the Lobster Risotto (white cheddar risotto with sweet corn, potato and hunks of pacific lobster, cilantro chimichurri, crisped tortilla chips) was under-seasoned, or perhaps unseasoned (referring only to salt), which ruined an otherwise good dish. The same was true for the Hushpuppies (cheese, jalapeño & beer fritters with smoked tomatillo verde, sour cream, green onion & adobo sauce). Actually, in the case of the hushpuppies only the hushpuppies themselves were under-seasoned, the accompanying sauce was not. Similarly, the Chili Verde (hickory smoked, thick cut Berkshire pork chop glazed with coffee molasses adobo sauce, smoked tomatillo chili verde with potato & roasted onion) was under-seasoned. It's difficult to believe that the same individual prepared the steak and clam chowder, both of which were seasoned perfectly, versus the pork chop, risotto, and hushpuppies, which seemed to be the work of an amateur (seasoning, after all, is one of the first things one learns in culinary school). One more miss (near hit): my martini. It came in a half-full-half-empty cocktail glass. Either fill it up, or serve in in a smaller cocktail glass. No half-full drinks, please...! The deserts were between good and excellent, I won't go into all the details. The service was good. Our server was enthusiastic and dedicated, and with time and practice she undoubtedly will develop better timing and refinement.

Wow. This place was, in a word, amazing. High prices...so it's definitely a special occasion restaurant. For us, our visit was our first dinner out by ourselves since our son had been born - and it was Valentine's Day! We made reservations beforehand. There were three seatings available - the middle seating was full, so we opted for the early seating instead of a late dinner. The building is kind of sad... strip mall building in between a Starbucks and Jamba Juice, with a view out the windows of the grocery store. Luckily the atmosphere inside is much more appropriate to the dining experience than the exterior surroundings. We were promptly seated. There can't be more than 10 tables in that place, plus some bar seating. Small, but not too cramped. I didn't feel uncomfortable or too close to the other patrons. I hate it when restaurants seat you so close to others that you can hear every word of their conversations...thankfully this was not the case here :) Because of the surroundings I would really give them 4 1/2 stars... We ordered a couple of drinks to start off with which were brought to us in no time at all. And their wine menu had some great offerings...the red wine I enjoyed with my dinner was so good that we actually ended up going to visit that particular winery driving through Napa area a few weeks later. Bravo to the Bistro for finding some great wines. They had their regular menu, as well as a few special V-Day items. I ordered the V-Day special steak dish, and hubby ordered their gnocci. Both were absolutely delicious. My steak was cooked just right - which, sadly, is somehow difficult for many restaurants to achieve. For dessert we shared the chocolate souffle - amazing!! Of course, neither of us have ever had a chocolate souffle before so we had nothing to compare it to, but it was soooooooooo good! Overall the staff was friendly and very helpful, and the evening was a delight. This is definitely a great addition to fine dining in Redding.

Guys, my wife dragged me their after reading some positive review on yelp, thinking anything with "bistro" in the name must be good. I was not in the mood for fancy food, so I just ordered the burger. $14 fancy burger was out of this world! Beef was top cut, fresh, and juicy, housemade roll was fresh, but it was artfully done with some kind of arugula salad or something on top. It was fancy, and it was manly delicious, even on a square plate. Excellent friendly service. Owner made regular rounds to chat the patrons. Wait staff and everyone kid friendly. Decor nice too, with original art on the walls. Nice bright place, feels more like Yountville than Redding.

A surprise of a classy restaurant nestled in the midst of a plain shopping center. The dishes offered are all very appetizing. I had the veggie burger and enjoyed it very much. Great service and atmosphere. The chairs in the middle of the restaurant create a bit of a hazard when trying to get to the restroom though.

Food is great. I have been here twice and have enjoyed both meals. The last time I was in, I was able to order a deconstructed chocolate cake with red velvet cake and it was amazing. I am not one for desserts but that was hands down one of the best I have had. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is simply because the salmon I ordered was a bit fishy but good nonetheless.

This review is in need of an update...So, here it is. I have been here a few times since the last review and have had minimal problems with the food. The service has also been excellent. A vast improvement from my first review. Recently, I had a burger and fries. While, the burger was delish, the fries were not. They were too salty. I asked the waitress about it. She was very kind and offered a re-make. When my fries came back, they were perfectly salted. After a couple of bites, I noticed that the fries were undercooked. Maybe they tried to rush them out? I don't know, but for a $15 burger and fries, I would expect the fries to be cooked for the right amount of time. The first batch, however, was not undercooked. I didn't say anything because it was just disappointing and I was in a hurry. So, I guess it's hit and miss. Gave a 3-star rating because of the delicious burger and wonderful waitress.

My Daughter took me here and I had the fish tacos. That was a lot of food. If you plan to go there take a friend and share your meal...we go sereral time a month and we learned that we like the Carlamari which was so good I think of it often and the Desserts are so delightful too. get dessert and get 3 spoons to share with your friends there is plenty to share....a little expensive but you pay for what you eat well worth it..I drive from Red Bluff to Redding just to eat here...

This might be the best restaurant in Redding, I don't know, this is the only one I've eaten at. It was very good, and I am judging it not so much based on location as based on restaurants in general - and it does quite respectably in that regard. The food was overall great to fantastic. The starters we had, both fried, were delicious and I would have kept eating them if we didn't clear the plates. In particular their Calamari, lightly battered and crisply fried and served with a spicy chili oil, was a delectable way to start a meal. My main, a braised lamb shank, was fall off the bone tender and lib smackingly moist. It was clearly a good meal, but the girl friend's Filet was a superstar (in fact they had a sign outside the restaurant that said "Try our Filet"! - and it does pay to heed such signs), perfectly cooked and delicious meat, served with an herbed butter sauce, mashed potatoes, and a bit of rosemary wonton. The lowest point for me was dessert. The creme brulee was good, but not great - the carmelized sugar on the top was unevenly browned, and the custard was a bit warmer than I prefer, but it tasted good enough. The service was friendly and efficient, and that's worth noting in and of itself. By all means, if you are in Redding and looking for a place to go for a fancy meal, Moonstone is a perfectly cromulent destination!

A friend and I went for our "just desserts" and we were moderately impressed. On this visit we had the peppermint creme brulee, which fell short of both of our expectations. Instead of a peppermint infusion it had more of a candy candy, processed sugar sort of flavor. I give this place four stars though for the wonderful service I have always had, not to mention the yummy souffles I have dined on in the past!

INCREDIBLE!! WOW!! We recently took some friends to Moonstone Bistro to celebrate a big birthday. They're still talking about the amazing food & incredible service. This was truly the best meal we have ever experienced! The choices were diverse & everyone at our table throughly enjoyed the evening. Having traveled quite a bit, we have a taste for fine dining & we tell everyone that Moonstone Bistro is over the top! Exceptional picture perfect meals, relaxing ambiance & service like you're the only one that matters!

This place was so amazing! The staff went it of their way to work with me in regard to food allergy. I ordered the calamari, which was the best I have ever had, gluten free or not! And that they made it special order for me made it even more awesome. I will definitely be back here, I want to try the plantains with guacamole...

My wife and I went here awhile back for lunch, maybe a couple of years now but all I can remember about the place is how expensive lunch was for two ($40 for lunch ouch! ), how long it took to get our food (I didn't know lunches were suppose to be 1.5-2.0 hrs), and the oakra (what a terrible vegetable). Anyhow needless to say the place left a bad first impression on me. My wife on the other hand didn't seem to mind. Needless to say I haven't been there again with her since. Dine at your own risk!.

We had a wonderful lunch here. My heirloom tomato sandwich was delicious. My son-in-law said his hamburger was probably the best he had ever eaten. My daughter and husband both loved the heirloom tomato salad. The macaroni and cheese was a hit too. If I find myself in Redding again, I won't hesitate to revisit this excellent restaurant.

We've dined here only once and were surprised by how small the dining room is ... it felt a little crowded and was certainly not intimate. But then, we didn't come here for a romantic interlude. We came for the food .. and they did NOT disappoint. In fact, we were delighted! Fish Tacos and Calamari were delicious ... Service was impeccable. We will definitely be back.

Weighting of all elements leads us to four stars. When we're back in town, we'll definitely consider Moonstone Bistro again. These folks are really trying to do something special in Redding. Service - 3 - friendly greeting and seating - server was obviously a beginner - but will get better. As example, server did not know all of the wines by the glass options that night (and there were only five or so - not a big list), did not remove used plates from the previous course as the next course arrived (but the helper pouring water seeing the old dishes on the table came by to remove them), did not check back at the table to see how things were after each course was delivered requiring us to "flag down". And so on. But as there was another server who obviously knew their stuff this apparently new staff member should have a good tutor available and the attitude was pleasant which goes a long way. Food - 4 - our expectations were low given this is Redding - our expectations were exceeded with good food even if the dinner menu seemed relatively staid. (Steak au poivre, chicken cordon bleu, ratatouille lasagna and two or three others of similar old classic style.) We ordered calamari, crab cakes and a house salad from the appetizer menu. (Had we known the lunch menu was available at dinner service we would have ordered the veggie burger which looked GREAT when the woman next to us ordered it.) The calamari had a nice rice flour dusting which is a perfect option for frying as it leads to crispier outcome and the two dipping sauces, a chipotle sour cream mixture and a tart jalapeno "gastrite" (per the menu) were both tasty even if the calamari was just a little shy of being perfectly done. The salad greens were fresh and crisp with a good balsamic dressing on the side. The crab cakes, two nice plump ones, had big pieces of crab and minimal filler, were cooked to perfect crispness outside and served with dual sauces of remoulade and a very nice tartar styled sauce. The dessert menu is limited to a handful of things, but they are good "cook style" options such as chocolate souffle and ice cream sundae with homemade caramel, chocolate ganache and candied pecans. We chose the latter and it was a yummy finish to the meal. All food presentations on plate were a feast for the eyes without being fussy. Nicely done. Wine list - 3.5 - they have quite a nice list of bottle selections but for a neighborhood bistro we'd expect more options toward the lower price point per bottle ($25 "ish") vs the higher price point ($60 and up) in particular given wine prices have plummeted at wholesale level, especially for Napa wines, they ought to be able to do better here. Also, they need more by the glass options and better quality by the glass wines than the ones offered. (Better quality does not mean higher priced - there are all kinds of good wines at a lower cost per bottle that would be a good fit for by the glass pours in a neighborhood place.) Still, they do offer a sparkling wine (Gloria Ferrar) by the glass so "thumbs up" for that! They might want to reach out a bit to find some good prosecco or cava options to change things up and introduce their customers to new things and also allow them to lower the price per glass for sparklers. Riedel glassware for wine service is also a nice touch and "thumbs up". Atmosphere - 4 - nicely modern ambiance with a good modern music mix on the sound system - lots of windows, open kitchen. We liked the "all are welcome here" neighborhood vibe of this place, a mix of what seemed to be locals, some regulars and some new to Moonstone - families, couples, singles, all ages. Prices were reasonable...two generous sized appetizers, a house salad, two glasses of sparkling wine, and a generous dessert clocked in at just under $60 after tax. .

I went there for lunch. My companion got a hamburger and I got the fettuccine. The hamburger, which came with a small green salad, was apparently pretty good. The fettuccine was billed as "house made fettuccini infused with blended black beans, served with shallots, roasted pasilla peppers & cotija cheese, kumquat, mint & red onion salad, crisped plantains...." The portion size was very small, and by far the strongest flavor in the dish was red onion. It was overpowering. I am still tasting red onion three hours later, and my stomach is very unhappy with life. I ate about half of it with the onions, and then I couldn't do it any more. I picked the onions out of the rest of it, and the pasta that remained was really, really bland. For the number of ingredients, it tasted like it had no seasoning. The only ingredient that had any flavor was the blood oranges (which were totally not on the description). The rest of it all had the same flavor. The plantain chips were boring. They were like potato chips only not. Maybe everything else they cook is really good, but it really wasn't anything to write home about. We both had the lemonade, which was really good but it was served in a small glass, half of which was ice. Homemade lemonade (even with free range lemons) is really cheap to make, and I saw no reason to skimp on the portion size. Finally, the bill was $50, including tip. $50 bucks for 1) a cheeseburger, 2) a small green salad, 3) about a cup and a half of cooked pasta, and 4) two lemonades at lunch? That's really, really steep. The price alone would probably keep me from going back.

Have always liked Moonstone, a fun stop for a good lunch, but had dinner there for the first time tonight. We thought the meal was perfect, delicious, memorable & reasonably priced for the fresh, innovative ingredients & how delicious it all was. A couple of weeks ago we ate at Mustard's Grill in Napa - honestly, nowhere near as good. And, no, we know no one who works at Moonstone. We had the Eel River Organic New York Steak with smashed sweet carrot & bacon hash, house ancho sauce, cheese stuffed roasted poblano pepper, cilantro chimichurri, butter cornbread crumble & cotija cheese...$34. As well as the lobster risotto appetizer of white cheddar risotto with sweet corn, potato and (big) hunks of Pacific lobster, cilantro chimichurri, crisped tortilla chips...14. We had no room for their tantalizing desserts! This meal was amazing and fantastic, as was my Cosmopolitan.. and wine. I also appreciate that they change their menu seasonally - maybe keeps the chef(s) inspired to create novel, tasty fare. And, their bathrooms are clean. (it matters)

Freshest food in Redding, inventive menu, attentive and accommodating staff - my favorite place to eat in all of Shasta County! I love the Big Salad w chicken, and am convinced that Heaven includes their coconut empanadas! Thank you, Moonstone, for a beautifully changing menu, and for being kind to lady with a baby, again and again.

Recently went back to Moonstone Bistro after reading some of the not so good reviews to see for myself...I was blown away! Not only did the previous people not know what they were talking about, but they were too busy being nit picky to enjoy all the amazing food Moonstone has to offer! We happen to go in on "new menu" night, which I guess happens every couple of months, wow, was it good. I tried the Chicken Mole which was juicy and super flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they make even the mole sauce. My husband tried the Pork Belly and he absolutely LOVED it! I was a little apprehensive, but once I bit into the delicate meat and felt the crisp crunch of the fat I was transported to a world where bacon can make a divine dinner. I wasn't sure I had room for dessert, but I didn't want to miss out on the Lemon Meringue so we took it to go. So glad we did, I almost ate the whole thing on the way home! All in all loved it the first time still love it now.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and ridiculously good food. I got the chicken with prawns and stuffed pablano. One of the most well balanced dishes I've ever had. I truly could have had 2 or three more of those stuffed peppers.

I just happened to be in the area a few weeks ago, and wanted to update my score by 1-star for one thing, and one thing only: french press coffee. Now, I'm not doing this because it was overly exceptional french press (really, when is french press bad?), but I wanted to commend them for the presentation. One thing that I think many shops and restaurants forget is the activity, the draw. Food is all well and good, but when I go somewhere I want it to be memorable, and I want choices. (This is where they bring out the french press pot of coffee, a beautiful set of sand timers--2,3,4, and 5 minute timers--and all of the dishware, with cream and sugar.) We get to decide on the time and strength, and it almost reminded me of an old fashioned coffee house (or something I would do in the private of my home). Needless to say my friend and I were extremely impressed. And for the price, I think $5, the quality and experience was well worth it.

First, I should say I've only eaten here once and it was a special menu (new year's) and perhaps I may have had my expectations too high! I was really looking forward to the food and expected something exceptional. For entrees we ordered the a pork tenderloin dish and the fried chicken. The portions were very generous, you get plenty of bang for the buck, but the chicken was dry and the flavors were underwhelming. The biggest disappointment however was our cheese plate appetizer. It had slices of a mealy half apple, about 4 candied pecans, 3 slices of watermelon radish and a small serving of Humboldt fog. Those favors together we're not impressive, not the right kind of contrast of that bring out the sweet and savory of a cheese. and for the price it really was a disappointment. I can say that the ambiance is nice, but for a better all around dinner locally I have to say I prefer market street steakhouse.

I have had both good and bad experiences food-wise at Moonstone. I am beginning to think that it coincides with the days that Che, the chef is working. Che not there, two stars. Che cooking, 4 stars. Two weeks ago, I took my daughter there when my husband was out of town. We shared an appetizer of fritters, a bowl of soup, and the fish tostada special. I had a glass of Pinot, she had tap water. The meal cost us over 50 bucks without the tip. The fritters were served on a cold, congealed cream sauce, the soup was pretty good, and the fish tostada consisted of an overcooked piece of fish sitting on a soggy homemade tortilla, covered with mostly cabbage. Overall a pretty disappointing and expensive meal. It was a non-Che night. My advice, if you don't see Che in the kitchen, head across the parking lot to Burrito Bandito.

I had a fine dish of fish tacos at the place but the dessert was overly-done and overly-presented. I felt that this place was trying to hard to be hip and cool, and needed to relax more. Sometimes, more is less.

We got a $50 gift card (from someone who WORKS there). When we finished our dinner, we gave the card and $40 dollars to the waitress and left. She chased us out of the restaurant and said the card wasn't any good. (Really?) The point is, if you get a gift card, bring the receipt because the owner won't honor it unless you have the receipt AND return the card. We can't find the card, so 3 months later we're still out the $50 bucks that my friend spent and she's up $100. That being said, though...the food was great! We'll just never go back because we were so embarrassed by the whole thing.

I'm baffled as to how anyone can derive an attempt at "political correctness" (loaded, often misused term for simply treating others with respect) from Moonstone Bistro, but I digress... (???) I have been to Moonstone twice, and never got the impression that the crowd was "moneyed" or trendy...just people trying to have a bite to eat. And what a bite it was! This place was a particularly pleasant surprise when it first opened in Redding. Initially, I was convinced it would not last long, simply because it was new, different, and ushered in change. (Remember the paranoid backlash that ensued when it was announced Trader Joe's was coming? Yeah so do I. One can't even get a parking space there now.) I am so glad I was wrong, and that this great place has been embraced by many, and continues to do well. I had the fish tacos and a wine whose name I cannot remember, but I was amazed at how delicious everything was. The ambiance was lovely, the service friendly, prompt, and helpful, and the crowd seemed very happy, and to be genuinely enjoying themselves. I have also had the burger, and it was superb. I've since moved from Redding, but in the event I am ever up there again, a visit to Moonstone is an absolute certainty. It's one of my favorite things about the town.

Quite possibly one of the top 10 meals I've ever had. This place is exceptional in every way. My husband (meat eater) and I (vegetarian) equally enjoyed the experience. I'd go on and on about the Spring Vegetables, but I heard they change the menu seasonally. If you live in Redding or are just passing through, don't miss this place. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere, great service. I will make it a point to get back here.

If you want to go out for the only really good food prepared by the only educated chef in town you will head over to Moonstone Bistro for dinner...of course because nothing in Redding even compares to the quality of the food at Moonstone, you will also pay through the nose for it. This is typical bistro type fare you can find on every block in the Bay Area and probably even make at home with some concentration, but there is only one place to get this quality of food prepared for you and served in a casual upscale environment that helps you temporarily forget you are in Redding (at least until you walk out the door and remind yourself it's in a strip mall), so I will keep coming back to Moonstone on evenings I can't manage to get out of dodge to find a better option.

Found this place on the internet. We really lucked out with finding this place. Vegie eatery, not really. Had plenty on the menu for those of us not wanting that sort of dinner. We started off being waited on by Jill. She knew the menu extensively down to how the were going to cook everything. We started with the Calamari which was outstanding in every way...and not chewy. We both had the Salmon which had Heirloom tomatoes, special sauce, Arborio Rice & Panko crumbs. We finished it off with the French Press coffee which was perfectly fine with the end of the meal. We had no room for the dessert but the ones they had was perfectly explained by Jill. If you are visiting Redding & crave for a lot better place to eat, then this place will be it. A little off the beaten track but so well worth it. I would strongly recommend asking for Jill since this lady knows it all. Cheers!

Awesome food. Wonderful staff. Great wine list. This place rocks. You have to respect the chef's passion. He tries to get local, organic ingredients whenever he can and he uses ingredients that are in season. My wife and I love this place. We are from Sonoma and it is nice to have a restaurant with wine country quality in Redding. I mean, come on, an organic burger with a fresh baked bun and housemade pickles and pickled onions. No stone is left unturned here.

Me & my parents ate here for dinner last night. All 3 of us were very impressed. The owner (Tonya) meets (almost) everyone & carefully is very involved in a little bit of everything to do with her restaurant. She also makes sure to constantly keep tabs on cooking in the kitchen & making sure that all customers are being waited on. She may recommend a dish based on the seasonal veggies available and/or based on your diet or where you're from. The small room was packed with a seat rarely empty. There's comfortable seating for about 30-40 people in a small to mid-size, yet very elegant room with an upscale, yuppy feel. Sorry if that word is rude for some people, but I was surprised that almost everyone (customer or employee working there) was dressed better than I was. I wore blue jeans, a yellow sweater & a hemp beanie. Lunches are $8-ish to $10-ish range & dinners are about $12 to $25 .... even $37 (steak). We're a vegetarian-friendly family, and finding a privately-owned (not chain-) restairant was a big factor in why we chose to eat here. The food we all 3 ate was all made in-house (including I think even the bread & sauces). Her husband is the head-chef & was working non-stop the whole time we were there. The dinner portions are large, so come hungry. The appetizer was sorta small, tho. This restaurant is very busy & I'd recommend making reservations, especially for dinner on weekends. Service is prompt & the quality of food (I think) is unmatched in Redding. Oh, they also have bar seating. We didn't sit at the bar, but Tonya recommended us a local wine from Sonoma (close enough to be local) & it was perfect to go with our dinner. The bill was $88 +tip for 3 of us including an appetizer, & the wine was about $30 of our bill. My parents are old-fashioned Hungarians & their expectations are very high for food this expensive, but here, their expectations were more than met.

Great food with good vegetarian options. I came here with my coworker a while back- I got a salad with grilled chicken and he got the zucchini spaghetti. Both of us were really pleased with the quality of the food, atmosphere and service. The desserts looked AMAZING but we had to pass. The only real downside to this place is that the prices are pretty steep. Besides that, I can't wait for a chance to return here and try other menu items.

moonstone is very slick and classy ... blonde / heather locklear-ish runs the place , although she did not seem to happy while i was visiting ... maybe she needs some love :-) . The staff is very friendly and down to earth , including the chefs , which you can see from the dining area ( the kitchen is open ) Also has a nice bar area ! They have an all day menu which is basically a shortened menu for the OFF hours .. however .. the lovely chefs made my choice for me which was on the "lunch" menu ... the fries are great .. have lots of herbs and stuff on them .... tasty !! i will go back on my next visit to redding !! maybe i will ask the kristin t. what she is doing later ...

My friend and I were traveling from Bend, Oregon down to the Bay Area, and were very hungry. We found Moonstone Bistro on Yelp, and it seemed to be just what we were looking for. Not expecting to find great food in Redding,, California, both of us were somewhat skeptical about the 4 star rating. It was a few miles off of the I-5, but well worth it. We were both more than pleasantly surprised. The owners, Che and Tanya were extremely hospitable. It felt like you were eating at their house in the sense that they were true hosts. The food was fantastic. The Pan seared Chicken was awesome. The Fish Tacos were very good. The service was also very very good. I recommend this place highly to anyone looking for a meal from a real Chef who loves practicing his art. The setup of the restaurant and ambiance, Tanya's expertise, was also impeccable. Great Job!

This was our first food stop on our way to Portland from the Bay Area. It got us a bit off-track from the freeway, but we were glad we went! The restaurant: The restaurant was in a newish but an ordinary shopping plaza next to Starbucks. The inside was much more chic with mahogany-colored (or maybe it was black) furniture, a high ceiling, and an open kitchen (a big plus!). We were greeted with a casual hello from the chef behind the counter, where bits of roasted squash were sitting in a roasting pan (an even bigger plus :) ). The atmosphere: Casual, not snobby. Some of the customers were clearly regulars, and some of the staff were chit-chatting with customers about their kids, the books they read, and even about their dates. It was a bit strange to see this level of friendliness at a formal restaurant like this. The food: We came out very happy! Moonstone Burger w/ Pommes Frites - Pickled cucumbers and onions were probably the only flavoring on the burger, but the beef was very fresh and the simple flavoring was just right. The ketchup from the fries was there to dip the burger in when I needed extra flavor. The fries served in a trimmed brown paperbag were crunchy and crisp. Prawn Alfredo - Nice firm homemade fetuccini. Very cheesy - my husband couldn't get enough of it until that cheesiness got to him at the very last bite. Smoky plump prawns were nice. Tomato Sausage Soup (soup of the day) - We expected the creamy type with chunks of sausages, but this was more like a bit watery version of chunky spaghetti sauce. The flavor was okay but not excellent. Would have tried the desserts if we weren't so full. ...Next time! This is a worthwhile pit stop for long distance drivers, who don't always want to eat junk food on the road.

Simple food done right! Our party of 3 (plus 2-year old) started with the fried calamari appetizer. Perfectly cooked, with a very interesting dipping sauce in addition to the chipotle aoili. My mom had the fish tacos--very well done, and my wife and I split the teriyaki mushroom burger and the chopped salad with chicken breast. The burger was cooked perfectly to order (medium rare) and the mushrooms were done just right--not too teriyaki-ish, just tasty. The chopped salad was one of the better presentations I've seen, and the chicken cooked to a turn. Finished off with an excellent chocolate souffle. First time in Redding, but if we ever come through again, we're making this a must stop.

My boyfriend and I went here last night for the first time and were very pleased. We started off with the Charred Naan and Pesto appetizer which was great and suprisingly inexpensive. For dinner my boyfriend had the TMS- Teriyaki Mushroom Swiss burger that was loaded with flavor and I had a pesto fettucine dish with corn salsa and lemon dumplings. I thought the dumplings sounded a little weird, but they were the perfect amount of lemon flavor. The wait staff was wonderful and after seeing the reviews on here about the chocolate soufflé, we had to try it and I am so glad that we did. It was a delicious rich soufflé and perfect to split. Overall I thought this place was great and very reasonable, we actually only spent $65 on our full meal, but without drinks (just had water). Definitely worth it.

My husband and I really enjoy this restaurant, particularly their Sunday brunch. From the ambiance/atmosphere to their unique twists on American classics. Also love the little details that take this place over the top: French pressed coffee, delectable bread, and attentive staff, what more can you ask for? Definitely one of my favorite places to eat, in a town that seems to cater mostly to chain restaurants.

It's so sad. I've had some many wonderful meals here with many great friends and clients. However as a member of the media I've been treated so badly by Chef Che and his wife that I refuse to go there any more. Maybe someone should remind them that sales reps are customers too. Well at least this sales rep used to be.

There is a saying in yoga that you have to meet yourself where you are. I believe the same to be true of restaurants. One of my greatest pet peeves about yelp is the folks who dock stars to a restaurant for being what its trying to be, instead of what they think it should be trying to be. So, all that being said, my rating of Moonstone Bistro is a measure of the degree to which it succeeds in doing what it aims to do - which is to bring a little bit of casual fine dining to the otherwise culinary wasteland that is Redding. In this, it succeeds beautifully. Would I personally love to see them do more exotic meats and expensive wines? Sure! Would that work for their mostly local clientele? You tell me - that they're 5 years strong indicates that they have a firm grasp on the reality of their business, what works, and what their customers want. The food is delicious and changes appropriately with the seasons, the staff is friendly and professional, the ambiance is warm and cozy. What's not to like? I have seen complaints from a few helpers on the prices, to which I will only say, those people have no idea. They are not meeting the restaurant where it is. If you want a $5 burger, go to McDonald's. Value is all about getting quality for what you pay, and Moonstone's value proposition is absolutely solid. You'd pay twice as much for this food in Napa or Sonoma, so consider yourself lucky to have such a wonderful place doing it so affordably in your very own town.

Hands down the best restaurant in Redding, I have been several times over the last year and the food never disappoints. The Fish Tacos are my staple on the menu, but each month they offer a number of specials which often grab my interest. Place is on the avg/high on price for Redding but still well below what the quality would demand in another city.

Very very good, but the price is way out of most people range, this is a special occasion restaurant only. If you go you most order the Molly Dooker syrah, a life changing experience.

I'm a bread whore. The bread at Moonstone Bistro is as good as it gets. Fluffy, warm little carb pillows that you slather the housemade herb butter on and consider skipping future orders to eat. I want to play chubby bunny with the bread rolls. We didn't make a reservation and the waiting area was, well...non-existent. Seems the owners didn't realize they would be so well received when fashioning their bistro and didn't think they would need a waiting area. We stepped outside, happy to await our table. It was hot out and the owner personally walked out two drinks to us. As soon as the table was ready we were also offered an appetizer on the house. The bartender/host/kind of waiter was less than charming but a view behind him at the kitchen sufficed as more than enough to distract us from the slowly fleeting wine and carb induced glowy feeling that was settling on us. Behind the bartender is where the magic happens and Chef and team deliver perhaps some of the best food in the Northstate. Everything is fresh. Everything is amazing. The prices are great for the QUALITY of food your getting. Simply put, GO THERE.

I would give them a full 5+ stars if their prices weren't so high. I wouldn't say their prices are outrageous, but I would say they are prohibitive. I also have to take into account that my family dislikes the location, which even if I'm driving, is a huge issue. It's not star deduction worthy, but I would give them extra credit if they were a little closer to central Redding. Other than that, the food is awesome! I also loved the dim lighting, rich colors & the overall ambiance. Our waitress Jackie was amazing as usual, she is always bringing her A game! Thank you! I had the fish tacos--ahh, they are so freaken delicious. My mom ordered the calamari appetizer, and it was delicious as well. It had a different flavor to it, but it was perfect with the lemon rind and lime juice! The first time I ever went here I was actually a bit disappointed, but after this last visit I am definitely glad that I gave them another shot. I hope Moonstone thrives in Redding!

Love It! One of the best places to in Shasta County, my favorite by far. Small menu but it is always changing so you never get bored. Expect to have a wait for your food, when everything is fresh and made to order it takes a little longer. More time to enjoy the wine list which is also very nice.

For as long as I've lived in Redding (31 years) I've always been embarrassed by the lack of fine dining in the area. There are several restaurants in Redding that are living on their past reputations and that makes the matter even worse. Then we come to Moonstones. Now at last Redding has a quality place for those special occasions. From the exterior it doesn't look like anything special, but once inside it feels like you've been transported to San Francisco. It definitely has that big-city bistro feel to it. The food and the service is great and well worth the money. As far as the money goes, if you want cheap go to Subway. And while you are counting the pennies that you saved compare the quality of the meals you just paid for.

Food is OK. However, this is the third (and last) time I have been turned away. First two were for "private parties". This time their ac was broken. I understand that things happen, but things seem to happen more frequently here.

I ate at Moonstone Bisteo for the first time yesterday for lunch. A friend named Jennifer and I both ordered the fish tacos and our servers name was Ashley. She was probably the best server I've had in the past year, easily! She was attentive but not too much so. It was just right. She was always there to see if we needed anything, filling our glasses, etc. The food was healthy portions and tasty. I tend to like my fish tacos with more seasoning but my friend thought it was perfect. I've never had fish tacos served the way they were. I forgot to take a phot...sorry. They were pan seared with a slight batter in them. Not sure what it was but it was done to perfection. They served the entire filet on top of the cabbage and we ordered avocado on the side. The cabbage was fresh and crisp, the avocodo was perfect! Well done! The only negative was we sat on the patron, which was lovely, until it started to rain. Fortunately we were already done eating so it just cut our visiting time down a bit. The decor of the inside was very easy in the eyes and trendy. Lots of windows(tinted), which I love, if I were to sit inside on another visit. I will definitely be back. Lovely experience and tasty food. I asked for more seasoning and it made it much tastier for me. Next time, I think I will ask them to make it spicy when they are cooking it. Mmmm good! Thanks Ashley and Jennifer! Wonderful first experience!

This place is over rated. I wasn't impressed the two times I have been here. Waited 40 minutes for food that wasn't as impressive as some of the reviews say. My chicken was dry and slopped with sweet jelly on top. The lamb was ok... Needed salt/flavor. The fish tacos were ok... You have to prepare them yourself. I say meh.

A bit off the road if you're driving thru Redding on your way to Oregon but well worth the diversion. The club sandwich with local bacon, whole avocado & heirloom tomatoes with house made bun was delicious. The burger even better with local organic beef and produce. Try the Pt Reyes Blue Cheese. Yum!!!

Love this place. The interior is really nice. Like the open kitchen. The plates are nice. The only thing is I always forget about them since they are out of the way. Have had brunch, lunch and dinner. A bit pricey. Food better than The View. Had a wonderful dinner tonight, just be sure to make reservations.

Well this was supposed to be the 'best' restaurant in Redding I thought. I liked the atmosphere here. Besides the many people who had snotty attitudes as though they were in Beverly Hills. But whatever that wasn't the issue. I came here to spend money on good food. But unfortunately it was one of the worst meals I've ever had. We spent $45 on a filet that was not properly cooked. It didn't even look like a filet. First off the presentation was awful. You don't put a slice of cheese on a filet ever. To make it worse there was wet onions underneath. It was almost comical. When I cut into it the top part was well done and then the bottom was red. So it was not evenly cooked. You shouldn't be serving steak if you can't properly cook it. Also, my Chardonnay was $15 for a glass. Your not a five star restaurant. That price is ridiculous. We started coming here every time we were in town but we will never be back and either will my family.

Went here a few nights ago and it was great. The service was all around amazing. From our nice, welcoming hostess (Eva) to our sweet waitress (mariah) i believe that was her name. The chef and bar tender were also very kind. The food was great. I highly suggest the duck confit tacos. This place is extremely small. Im glad we had reservations. And even with 7:30 reservations we still ended up sitting at the bar for some time waiting for our table. But that didnt bother us at all. If it wasnt so pricey I would eat here more often. But we will save it for special date nights.

We had an amazing dinner here. Everything was incredibly fresh tasting and original. They are a farm to fork bistro and they list their suppliers on the menu. They have a great wine list and some really original house made cocktails from the well stocked bar. We had the manchego and artichoke appetizer and the fish tacos. They were both exceptional. The freshly picked local strawberries with freshly made biscuit was the perfect finish to a delicious meal. Go!

Everything about this place is new and hip, except for the food and the prices. An open kitchen is always a very cool atmosphere and brings a theatre of transparency to what you are eating. Bar seating gives you front-row access to the action. A full bar and wine/beer list make this place legitimate, along with touting local, sustainable, and organic ingredients. The decor is aesthetically pleasing and the layout comfortable and intimate. The flatware, utensils and varietal-specific wine glasses make the place as modern as it needs to be without being pretentious. Looks great, right? Yes. But the food and the price points miss the mark completely. Example: Tuna Casserole, $29 Listen to the description: "sashimi-grade ahi, seared rare, served on house made tagliatelle pasta with cream, brandied mushrooms and english peas, topped with house made organic kennebec potato chips" Sounds divine? Yes. But what is the reality? A very small portion of Ahi, with barely any noticeable pink to it (seared rare, eh?) with bones in it! And a very large portion of what is actually closer to fetuccine alfredo. Nothing at all about this is a casserole. $29? That is at least $10 too high, even for San Francisco. Soup of the Day: Beer and Cheddar Potato $7. An experiment of flavor at best with dismal results. I could barely eat half. Should be priced around $4. Polenta Gnocchi and Arugula Salad: $10. This has to be the strangest "gnocchi" I have ever had, resembling tater-tots. I'm assuming they were deep-fried. The portion-size was very small, but it was advertised as an appetizer. This should be priced around $6 or $7. I was very excited to try the place based on the outward appearance of the restaurant, the website and the description of their philosophy. But it doesn't come together and is grossly over-priced for the quality and inventiveness of the food.

After consuming the finest pork chop in my life more than once (Chef changes the approach every season so how am I to decide?) and being greeted at the door like I matter... I ask the five-year old about her dining experience: "They keep the floors VERY clean. The tables are very clean." Would you say Moonstone is like Savory Spoon? "No!" (Sorry Yelp. You got it wrong on that one.) These guys are her favorite partly because the drinks are made to order for her. "I like the drinks. I get to drink it. And it's for ME." What she doesn't know is about the perfect orange juice to champagne ratio of the mimosa, the expertly crafted vanilla cheesecake pairing perfectly with Equator coffee, and the magical butter mixed by dairy fairies. Not to say anything of the efficient and friendly wait staff. No finer way to spend a family meal.

Best place my fiancé and I have eaten in Redding. The chef is a great guy, and he makes amazing food. Everything is fresh, local when possible and in season. You can tell he puts a lot of thought and passion into his menu. The service is also fantastic. Would not miss this place if you're looking for a great meal.

Nice atmosphere. A smaller place, with quality, creative food (which typically means a pricier menu). Menu is constantly changing since they serve seasonal food so what you like one time will definitely not be there the next. Fish tacos were tasty but were served with the filets over the tortillas just in a big pile that I had to assemble myself. With the sauce already drizzled over the top, this made for a messier-than-expected experience. This isn't really the type of place that you go to expecting to eat messy finger foods. I'll get past it. With the experience from my past two visits, I can say that I'm never blown away by their entrées, but I am always impressed with their appetizers. They have some really creative options with great presentation. The Baked Ravioi with lamb and roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic reduction (photo included) had amazing flavor. In conclusion, I like this place, but more for a mellow night of appetizers and wine with friends.

I visited this restaurant to meet up with two girlfriends after work for a light dinner and conversation. The evening started well, the waiter was very kind and attentive. I ordered a salad, and to my dismay... found a rusty, corroded metal hinge in my salad. YES... you read that right. Thank goodness I did not put that in my mouth! I was in shock... and how had a restaurant with these prices let their kitchen equipment corrode to the level of falling apart into their food supply??... I honestly debated on writing this review - I normally do not take the time to do so, and probably would not have if I felt the management did everything to make sure I was taken care of. However, when we got our bill - the only thing discounted was the cost of my salad. They charged me fully for my drink and appetizer with no offer to compensate or give me a free meal on my next visit ... NOTHING. And not on word from the manager as we departed after our meal. My friend even voiced that her dish was unsatisfactory, and bland to the wait staff. No offer to make her happy either. That is just unacceptable to me. The waiter, who seemed very embarrassed, apologized saying "wow I thought they would discount your meal further, it's out of my hands". Meaning, their staff has no customer service power... sad. Not a place I would enjoy working if I considered myself a professional. I'm used to service and restaurant culture in San Francisco or Portland, where my entire meal and the meals of my small party table have been completely comped simply for not enjoying the food - much less for something of this nature. Those restaurants have to manage reputation and there is great accountability to your audience because of the area competition. This is a problem in Redding... lack of competition, and no accountability. ...missing my Northwest and Bay Area restaurants...

The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and were very welcoming. The fish tacos were perfectly cooked, and the presentation was nice. I'm not normally a fan of coleslaw, but theirs was good. Ordered a med-well burger and even though it came out well done, it wasn't dry. The bun was artesian bread which was a nice touch too. Great quality and worth the little extra money.

My husband and I discovered while on a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle. It's a bit off course, but definitely worth the 5 minute detour. We had the fish tacos and duck tacos. Probably the best I've ever had. There was so much fish served with the tacos we had a tough time finishing them. And both so flavorful! We are already hoping for an excuse to come back!

SYNOPSIS: If you're looking for a special place and a memorable dining experience, look no further! Just bring your patience and your wallet because Moonstone Bistro is neither fast nor cheap. REVIEW: Nestled in a nondescript shopping center lies a weary Yelper's dream find, the Moonstone Bistro. The dining room was spacious and immaculate, the open kitchen a buzz with an actual professional chef and staff, and the waitress was attentive and spotlessly attired. We were greeted and seated (no "just sit anywhere" here) very quickly. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries off the lunch menu while hubby went all out with the fish tacos. The burger was amazing! The fries were generous, hot and expertly seasoned. Hubby's fish taco dish was interesting with the filet served over the silver dollar sized tortillas, but he tells me it was a fabulous piece of fish perfectly prepared and he was more than happy to assemble himself. Serve time was perfectly acceptable for what you are receiving. Remember, we are not at McDonald's so this would not be the place for a quick in and out meal. Our bill for 2 lunches with only water to drink was $42 with tip - but you get what you pay for. We will be back for the special occasion or when we've had enough of mediocre fare and are looking to be reminded what a great dining experience should be. I am happy to report the Moonstone Bistro is fully wheelchair accessible.

Food was O.K. but extremely overpriced. We had two hamburgers and two drinks from the bar and one dessert. The bill was an astounding $72.00 before the tip. I had a glass of house Cabernet for $10.50. A brandy and Seven is 12.95. This is by no means an up scale restaurant. It is a place to eat and is located in a strip mall in Redding! The food is not fresh and at least the chicken is previously frozen. At these prices one would think the meats would be fresh! If you want a good hamburger go up the road to Dunsmuir and try "Yaks"

First off, the service was great. Aron was extremely kind and helpful. He even stopped and chatted with us for a bit about suggestions for the rest of our road trip we are on. The veggie burger was so good! I had never had that combination of ingredients (mushroom & quinoa & more). It had such a great flavor! My mom enjoyed her salmon special. It had a yummy corn side underneath. If you are a fan of chocolate, definitely get the love by chocolate dessert! We will definitely be back if we every come through Redding again.

We ate here last night. We had to eat at the bar as we didn't have reservations. We started with calamari which was lightly breaded and came with 2 sauces. I liked the jalapeño bits that came with it. For our entrees, I had the Chicken Parmesan and my husband had the New York Steak. The chicken parm was a very generous portion. It's not your usual version. This one was lightly breaded and had a few thin slices of mozzarella and tomatoes on top of the chicken. It was placed on a bed of perfectly cooked veggies (yellow squash and haricot vert) with a pesto sauce. I only had half the chicken as I wanted to try their dessert. My husband ordered his steak cooked medium but the steak came over cooked. There was no pink at all. We told the owner of the restaurant that the steak was not cooked to order when he asked us how the meal was. He apologized and took off the dessert from our bill to make up for it. That was nice of him to do that. As for dessert, we shared the Chocolate Souffle with Creme Anglaise. It was great--very chocolatey and not too sweet. Perfect way to end the meal. We both ordered a glass of wine and they gave us a generous portion. My Reisling was the perfect choice for the 108 degree weather and my husband had a good Cab. If we're in town again, we would definitely go back for a nice meal.

Excellent. We were visiting Redding on a road trip and wanted something fancier than the usual for one of our kid's birthdays. They don't have a kids menu, but readily adapted the burger and chicken dishes for kids, while grown-ups could enjoy decent Californian and local food. Excellent steelhead and great desserts. Good service. Small and in a strip mall, but worth the drive as the alternatives are not in the same league.

This place is super cute and not your typical redding eatery. The decor is nice and semi trendy. The table clothes are a little much, but you can tell they are trying to be upscale. The prices reflect city prices, but I didn't mind. I could see how Redding people could get annoyed though. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food seems mostly organic, local, and healthy. I had the fish tacos and they were really good. They had a slightly different concept which I liked. My bestie was ecstatic that they had a gluten free menu. The pancakes looked amazing, but I didn't get to sample them. Next time I am definitely getting breakfast!

Love this restaurant!! Sunday brunch is by far my favorite. Where should I start..... Hmmmmm the almond crusted French toast with fresh seasonal fruit ..... Amazing!!! There potatoes are delicious and if your lucky u will get to bite into a roasted garlic chunk... Mmmmmmm. The blueberry biscuits to hold u over while u wait for your amazing plate of deliciousness, literally melt in your mouth with or without the honey butter that accompanies these perfect biscuits. If I had it's time I would get more into the menu but don't pass this place up if u are in town for the moment of live here. The burgers are amazing and so r all of the desserts.especially the apple pies, unfortunately they are seasonal

Moonstone Bistro is the best restaurant in Redding. Chef Che goes to great lengths to find the best local meats and vegetables for his creative offerings. This place is an anti-chain restaurant in that the focus here is on flavor and freshness rather than large quantities of mediocre, microwaved selections devised at corporate headquarters in another state. One needs to know what to expect to fully enjoy Moonstone. First of all, GET A RESERVATION! Moonstone is a relatively small, intimate restaurant. With few tables you may be turned away on many nights. Second, the menu is somewhat limited for formal entrees, usually 4 or 5 including at least one vegetarian option. They always offer some informal entrees including: salads, burgers, fish tacos, and soups. The desserts are to die for! (I hate that expression). The good news is that the menu changes often and the Chef will throw in specials and amazing creations when circumstances warrant. One will also find that the prices will be somewhat higher than Applebees, Olive Garden, etc., etc., but it is worth it if one wants quality dining. If you want Outback Steakhouse/ Marie Callender's, etc. GO THERE! Also, check out brunch at MB as well to rock your Sunday morning. Moonstone has it's kitchen open to the dining room which provides some entertainment with your meal. We have always found the servers to be professional, yet friendly. The owner, Tanya manages to organize the chaos but still has time to say hello or have a chat. I cannot agree with any reviews calling the management unfriendly or aloof because it is not the case. Am I a Moonstone fanboy? Why yes.... but I'm not normally that guy, so this endorsement counts a great deal!

On a road trip with 3 girlfriends and passing Redding at lunchtime. Wanted to try something other than fast food. Looked on YELP and found Moonstone. I would highly recommend this resturant. Nice friendly people, fantastic food and great service . A bit on the expensive side, but well worth every cent. We tried the spicy Bloody Mary. Fantastic! Also had the hamburger with fries. Out of this world! One of the best burgers I have ever had, and I am not even a burger person.

We stop at moonstone on our way driving to Seattle. We found the place through Yelp and it was great choice. Some of the best food ever! The place is a bit small. Make reservations; it's worth it! These foods were ordered and LOVED: pork belly ap. pork chop. Pan fried chicken. Fish tacos. Filet minion. Vegetable salad. And caprese-like salad. Put simply: GO, GRUB, ENJOY!

2.5 if there was such a rating due to cost vs quality/ambience. B for service only because it took too long to get the drinks to the table and recommendations were sub par. Otherwise service was B+. D for quality of meat. Steak was undercooked and tough with silver skin/tendons. (Grass fed beef taken into consideration.) Still poor. Fish tacos were mediocre at best. (recommended by wait staff) Props for the pasta. That was the highlight of the table. Bottom line: not worth the money. 4 stars? Should be 3 tops. Restaurant trying too hard to fake being a real performer.

Went during happy hour. Food was good. I had a delicious cocktail called mrs. Robinson but the staff was getting ready for the dinner crowd, the staff was loud and unconsiderate... it made me feel stressed like I was on the job too. I felt mildly like I was watching Gorden Ramsey.

Great option for vegetarians!!!!! Looking for an interesting place to eat in Redding, we found Moonstone on yelp and were intrigued by the menu. For dinner, we stopped by on a Saturday evening, we were promptly seated. The waiter was friendly and professional. We started with bread (rather warm bun) with a side of cream butter, this was very delicious and set the right tone for the rest of the meal. It's not often you find a veggie burger period and it's really rare to find one that someone has put some thought into. The patty is a mix of Quinoa and veggies that tastes a lot more interesting than it sounds. Their soup of the day was a fantastic tomato basil that ranks right up there among the best I've had. The chicken burger may have lacked a bit of seasoning but was cooked well. Their eggplant based entree was very interesting. The veggies felt really fresh and crisp, the dish was innovative in combining coconut rice with fried eggplant, snapeas and cheese. We did however feel that the tomatoes felt out of place in that dish but kudos for putting together an interesting blend of flavors in a vegetarian dish which is very rare as most chefs seem to take the easy route of a pasta or a risotto. The service, ambiance, overall experience was one of the best we've had. You can tell that the staff really want this restaurant to succeed and we really appreciate that. If we had to nit pick, we'd say the veg patty could use better binding as it had a tendency to slightly fall apart, the fries were too much in quantity and had too many bits and pieces. Overall well worth a stop in Redding for dinner. We wish we stayed there longer to try the lunch as well but we did have dinner there twice and it was good on both occasions. We'll definitely be back.

It is no wonder this place is rated #1. On the way to Oregon, we stopped @ Moonstone, first visit and LOVED it. The veggie burger has to be the best in California. The place is small and quaint with service (Aaron) being top notch. Passing through town, for sure this is a must have for me. If you go, you will not be disappointed.

Recent meal very disappointing. Owners were gone that night and all our food was very overcooked. Greens were also very bitter (which they knew about and failed to mention). Friends had same experience same evening. Certainly forgivable given the number of high quality meals we've had at Moonstone. So out of respect we reached out to the owners, but they had no interest in our feedback. Actually hung up on us after implying that our concerns were tantamount to harassment. Wow. We won't give up on Moonstone, but we will only eat there when the Chef is in, and will not tolerate any unreasonable inconsistency.

We chose this place for lunch because of the reviews. We got here at a good time thankfully because after we sat the restaurant was completely full within minutes. Our waiter was very nice. The menu is very tiny. I had the burger which was average. My husband had the chicken sandwich teriyaki which he said was good. The french fries were homemade however they were undercooked horribly. The atmosphere was nice. But I give it an overall average rating.

Two caveats - I'm a very good home cook and we ate there New Years eve, so, you experience may vary... 5+ stars for hostess and wait staff. I've eaten tn much more upscale restaurants with worse waiters. 4 stars for the ambiance - it's good. tables are not jammed together and it's very comfortable. 5 stars for the appetizers. The friend calamari was among the best I've ever eaten - lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. The cedar plank cooked cheese (yeah, sounds weird, just try it!) was awesome. 1 star for the entrees. I ordered the lamb and asked if it was medium rare and was told it was. When it arrived, it was grossly overcooked. It could have been shredded beef, pork or lamb. Really hard to tell. My wife ordered the chicken thigh / leg and it was dry and stringy. Again, grossly overcooked. Think Hometown Buffet. And with both dishes, the chef really needs to add some seasoning or put salt shakers on the table. I may give them another try when the kitchen is less busy, but our $100+ dinner came nowhere close to meeting expectations.

Disappointing for the cost - $120 for two people, including three drinks total and a dessert. We arrived for our reservation and were seated at a table less than ten feet from the front door. Every time customers entered or exited, the cold air of a winter night came to our table. Okay for casual dining but unacceptable for a restaurant in this price range. Service was okay but I was surprised that the staff was not more engaging with their customers. The food was inconsistent for the price range. The beet salad and soufflé dessert were good. However, we would have expected much more for the entrees. The restaurant was out of salmon and replaced it with scallops. The portions were small and the quality was mediocre for a $28 dish. The $17 fish tacos were awkward - a filet of fish laid over corn tortillas. Nothing special and not any better than what you would get at a Mexican restaurant for far less. If the cost of the meal was a third or more less, we might give this three stars. But at this price range, one expects outstanding food, service, and environment. Moonstone's potential in these areas is evident and, hopefully, they will further improve the experience they deliver to their customers.

Moonstone has a relaxed atmosphere. Looks like they have regulars. Overall the food is good but on the pricey side. We ordered pork belly for appetizer. You get two of about an inch and half of that and radishes. It was delicious but for $10.95? We also ordered fish taco. This was ok. Nothing to rave about. That was $16.95. The filet mignon was a bomb! It's one of best filet mignon I've ever had. I had no problem cleaning my plate. That was $44 but I think it's worth it. Now, for desert. Ordered a sundae. The presentation was good. The ice ream chocolate sundae was good but for $12.95? But hey, go for it! Moonstone Bistro is one of the best in the area!

One of the top 3 places to eat in Redding. Great atmosphere and menu. A delight for the palate. Great for a casual lunch or a date night with someone special. A great wine selection as well!

We went to moonstone for the second time only because we were given a gift certificate. Once again it was terrible! The service was good but slow, the food was overpriced, bland, and did not taste fresh. The choices are boring and the portions very small. I would never recommend moonstone to anybody!

Really great food served in a quaint/cozy atmosphere. Friendly wait staff with great recommendations. Food is just a little different which is what one looks for when dining out. A favorite of mine when in town on business.

If you are in redding, this is the place to eat. The food is made from scratch, everything is fresh and local. The chef will make something custom if you are gluten free or vegetarian or nut free! You won't regret stopping here!

I have to agree with Johnny W below, the Moonstone is a "prime example of location score inflation." I've been here on several occasions with many friends recommending it as the "best place in Redding for brunch" and it's terrible. Both times I've gone have been mediocre, but for the price are an outrage! The last time I visited I had their special for the day which was a vegetarian eggs Benedict special. Sounded good, but the texture was totally off. Brioche, sautéed mushrooms and avocado ended up being a mushy mess. In addition, the hollandaise sauce had no lemon zest to it and was totally bland. To top it off, one of my poached eggs was cooked hard. The chef is attempting to be creative but needs to get the basics down first. Forgot to mention: the service is excellent, but slow considering the size of the restaurant.

By far the best brunch I've had. On par with big city fare. The best place in Redding.

It's delicious, the portions are respectable for a higher end restaurant. The servers were welcoming but I felt a little off about them. Nonetheless, a lovely establishment for Redding.

Wow the food is to die for. You can taste the freshness & quality. The burger is amazing. The draft beers are local & very good. One of the best places in Redding. Try to make it for happy hour!

They have really great brunch menu on the weekends with great ambiance. Their sourdough buckwheat pancakes are a must try. I like how they use local ingredients and have great service.

The only 2 times I have been here were on both on Valentine's day. So on a regular un- holiday weekend night, I would love to revisit and see what the ambiance is like. The food each time was perfect. Fillet was that medium rare, juicy perfection that you would expect when you pay $44 for a minimal plate of food and actually that would be my only complaint. I'm small (5'1 102 lbs) and yes it was enough to fill me up, but my boyfriend was hungry after finishing his meal and ate my left overs. Service this February was on point. Last February, we waited an hour to get our food and they brought out a complimentary appetizer of their choice....Chips they made with fancy sauce to dip them in (not very good ones) and I cant give them less stars for people being seated about a half a foot away in each direction because we chose to go out on the busiest night of the year. So all in all, great food, good service for the most part and I will be attending on a week night so I can enjoy what a normal night dining here would be like.

  • Andrea E.

The food was great but we went on a Sunday morning and the wait to get our food was excessive. We had small children in our party that were ready to stage a coup in an attempt to pilfer a pancake. I'm guessing that if you were interested in a leisurely breakfast for adults this wouldn't have been that big of a deal. I loved that they incorporate organic and local ingredients whenever possible. The server staff was kind, though obviously overwhelmed by the Sunday breakfast rush. I'd be interested to try out the dinner or lunch experience, particularly mid-week.

My husband took me here on Sunday for a brunch date and I couldn't have been more pleased! The food was great (we both ordered Traitor Benedicts) and the Mimosa's were perfect. We were seated immediately and our waiter was outstanding.

Because the location is close which is convenient for a quick dinner out, I have eaten here more then a few times. Even though my order has bee forgotten, been given the wrong plate or forgot to bring us the drinks we ordered (yeah all of that happened). I still give them a 5 star. Each time a mistake happened, they took ownership and corrected it, with interest. The staff is nice and the owners are hands on, but more importantly the food is Delish. I recommend you try them out.

I eat a lot of veggie burgers and this was the best homemade veggie burger I've ever had. My wife had a wonderful salad with organic chicken. Service was fabulous. This restaurant is highly recommended and worthy of a detour off of the 5.

Best restaurant in Redding. I came down to Redding from Seattle and was in desperate need of an organic restaurant and came across this jewel. Their food was delicious. My sister had the fish and chips and they were so good and I had a salad and the ahi tuna tacos and I really enjoyed every bite. Fish and chips are a must, they are not greasy like most restaurants.

Food, service, surroundings all very pleasant. We went for brunch and were happy with choices and selection, neither of us ordered the eggs benedict but from viewing other plates it looked amazing. I was pleased to see mention of local produce in many of the entrees, would definitely like to return for lunch or dinner.

For the price, I would opt to dine elsewhere. While the ambiance is nice, it is not unique & the seating is very closely set. If you want to have an intimate conversation with whomever you came to eat a meal with, this is not the place for you. The food is just o.k. but certainly nothing very special. My husband's black & blue burger was dry and the patty was smaller than the bun which was small. They offer very few vegetarian options and absolutely no vegan options. when I asked for a plate of roasted/grilled house veggies our server acted put out. He made a comment in front of me to my husband, "hah, at least one of you can actually eat", which we thought was rude. The burger was served with pommes frites (french fries) and a garlic aoli dipping sauce. The sauce was not very garlicy but instead tasted more like bland mayonnaise. The outdoor seating is compact and in Redding, the heat is often so intolerable that the option is of the table. We did not appreciate the rude comment made by our server nor did I appreciate the lack of options for vegans. I simply asked for house veggies, cooked on a plate. The house has vegetables. I saw other people have them on their plates. To say no, we can't do that is poor customer service. I/we will not return to this establishment.

We found a recent visit to the Moonstone Bistro to be a huge disappointment, with the worst food and extremely long wait for our orders to arrive. I ordered chicken in a classic chicken sauce. The menu didn't mention what part of the chicken. I was served a leg and a thigh in a scant amount of sauce. I fully expected a chicken breast. I expressed my disapproval to the waiter, but sucked it in and blamed myself, because after all, I ordered the item, but when I cut into the thigh and saw that it was raw in the middle, that was the last straw. The waiter suggested I order something else. Meanwhile my friend was trying to navigate a fish taco that consisted of a large slab of fish atop a tortilla; this was not served in a manner either of us had ever seen before. Finally after an extended period of time, my quiche arrived (asparagus). It was a tiny little quiche with tiny little circles of asparagus on the top (about the size of slices of green onions, which is what I thought it was at first, probably less than a tablespoon. I ate the tiny little quiche in about six bites, getting pretty hungry by this time. We ordered coffee, but alas the only way to get a cup of coffee was to purchase a large pot (the pot had Starbucks written on it.). We left the restaurant pretty tired out after the long wait and ordeals we encountered. I left the restaurant kind of hungry as the tiny little quiche was really not a meal, and the tiny little portion of a green salad next to the quiche definitely wasn't filling. Sadly this restaurant is off our list, methinks they are trying to be elegant and very bistro-like, but missing the mark by a mile.

Nice atmosphere but pedestrian over priced food. The menu is small but creative. Our server explained that they were about to change menu's so one of the salad's was not available (the only entree salad on the menu) and the New York Strip was now a bone in rib eye. We ordered the fried eggplant appetizer ($8)which came out quickly. It was OK. We discussed how we would remake at home better. This seemed to be the theme. Good ideas for food. Execution lacking. Our entrees came some 20-30 minutes later. Bad timing considering the speedy appetizer . My husband ordered the burger, no complaints other than the price $15! The salad dressing for his side salad, blue cheese, was tasteless. I ordered the pork chop with mashed potatoes, red cabbage and a sauce.( $26) The chop was juicy but so smokey in flavor I couldn't taste the meat. Which, for a restaurant priding itself on heritage meats, is a real shame. The sauce it came with was so bland I didn't really know what it was. The red cabbage also needed something in flavor although it was cooked well. The mashed potatoes were awesome. Well seasoned(the only thing that was!!) and chunky, the way I like. I would've love some salt and pepper to add to my dish but none was on the table. Our server was lively, but way too busy. She stopped by ten seconds after our food was served inquiring about it and I hadn't even had a chance to try it. Then we didn't see her again until about ten minutes after we were done eating. Otherwise I would've requested she bring me salt and pepper. We actually overheard another diner complaining to the manager his pork chop was missing its bone and the food needed salt. And double cut pork chop by definition must have a bone and the manager was trying to explain the contrary. Then she went on to say they don't as a rule salt their dishes to accommodate low sodium diets. We were unimpressed with this. If you aren't salting your food at least put salt shakers on the table! All in all the food was OK. But the price way too high for just OK food. And where is the salt?!?

In a word: fantastic! Although a little ways off the interstate 5 path, this bistro is well worth the detour. From the second you enter this small bustling cafe, and are greeted by the friendly host, you know this place is going to be very good. While waiting for your meal warm buttery rolls are served. Tasty! We enjoyed the Bistro burger and the veggie burger (served with option of fresh garden salad, soup or French fries), which were served on warm and tender house-made rolls. The cheese on the burgers is thick-sliced all natural cheese, and not processed American cheese. Real quality ingredients for every part of the meal. While we opted for cola, guests at the next table ordered bloody marys to accompany their brunch, and the drink was as tall as I've ever seen. Polite service and reasonable prices earn the Moonstone five-stars in my view.

This has been my standard place to eat for lunch, dinner, cocktails etc. I'm super bummed with my last experience. I ordered the special on the menu which was a pork belly with soba noodles. The porkbelly was dry/overcooked and flavorless the soba noodles didn't elevate the flavor at all. I gave them feedback on the dish since I didn't eat much of it- and nothing was offered to remedy the poorly executed pork belly. Super disappointed, I'll be taking a break from Moonstone for awhile :(

Calamari, Burger and fries, salad and peach pie= epic. Dropped in (make reservations on Friday night) and Aaron at the bar, made room for us. Great service and atmosphere. Thanks for ruining my 85 year old mother's, Mother's Day. I made a reservation for 3 at Moonstone at 6:15 to celebrate an early Mother's Day. When we arrived we were directed to a small table next to the kitchen. It was small and crammed next to a large group celebrating a birthday. We requested a booth as there were 5 of them open. We were told they were reserved. I didn't know as part of the reservation we also needed to request a booth. Our waitress spoke to the owner and the refused to make other accommodations for us. We watched and waited over an hour while the booths remained empty. We asked again and we were told that the people that requested the booth had canceled. Really 5 reservations canceled? At one point one of the waitresses told my mother she would have to scoot in so she could get by. The owner finally came to our table and smugly explained that the 5 booths were no shows. She made no attempt to apologize or set things right and had a rude attitude. Our waitress was very sweet and embarrassed about the whole thing. I felt sorry for her and we left the full 20% tip. On to the food. Two of us ordered the Chicken Parm which was soggy and bland and tasteless on a bed of soggy rice with clumps of mozzarella tomato and basil on top. The other person had fillet on a bed of tasteless mashed potatoes and peas. The only thing memorable about this meal was the wine and dessert. The lemon meringue was very good. Our bill was $172.00 for 3 people and that's the kind of service we got. I had high hopes for a wonderful evening out. Overall it was a huge disappointment and I wouldn't go back again or recommend it to any one I know.

Ive been here a handful of times over the last several years. The first couple times I enjoyed the food for the most part but never felt it was worth the price. I've had the burgers, pork, pasta, fish tacos and several appetizers and to be honest the only thing worth the cost was the fish tacos. My last visit was on valentines day with my girlfriend and they had one special and limited the menu to 5 items none of which I had a desire for. I just think there's better food for the price.

Nice setting with plenty of parking. Great staff and open area near bar where you can see the magic in action. We recently went in. I was told it was a new menu. The food was pretty good. I ordered the cheese plate. It was alright. nuts, 1 cheese, fruit, and cracker. The cheese wasn't very good unfortunately. I ordered the big salad which was ok. My mom ordered the fish taco's which she loved. She said the fish was prepared just right! My tea was amazing too. So the service is great and food is pretty good. I just expected more I guess. My advice is just don't order the cheese plate and you'll be pretty happy.

Finishing off a day of disappointing eats, Moonstone proved to be another prime example of location score inflation. Dropping in for dinner on our drive from Seattle to SF, my sister and I find ourselves incredibly underdressed in our tees and jeans/shorts, while most diners fell between business casual to full suits, landing us a few dirty looks and more than a few stares (but not from the staff itself, who provided excellent service). We sit down anyway, ordering an heirloom tomato salad, Moonstone burger, and zucchini "spaghetti" (julienned zucchini, with no actual pasta), for a somewhat shocking $55 after tip. And while the the food was okay, it was not nearly on par with the high prices - certainly not worth the drive out from the I-5 for those roadtripping on the West Coast. And if this is what qualifies as a great restaurant out here, then I highly suggest that the residents of Redding visit Seattle or SF for some truly mind-blowing food in the near future.

I love this place! Fresh, local delicious food. Happy and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. I wish that the seating felt less cluttered and I am not particularly fond of the decor, but that really is very low on my priorities for an eatery. It would also be great if they had more gluten-free lunch/all day options (besides salad). But overall really lovely place to stop and eat good tasting, and good for you food!

My girlfriend and I had a nice dinner at Moonstone for our anniversary... We shared the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the fish tacos - both were great! I had an awesome Virgin Bloody Mary and my GF enjoyed their version of a Mojito. The service was good too. My only criticisms would be - a lack of salt/seasoning on the salad (though I admit I'm a bit of a salt fiend), the prices are super high (I was so sad that I couldn't finish my Bloody Mary so I passed it to my GF and asked the server for a shot of vodka to liven it up for her - she was awesomely willing - but I was charged $9.50 for the vodka - on top of the $4.50 I was already charged for the drink?! Wow...), and... when I called to make a reservation I asked if they could perhaps do something special to our table - just to make it unique for our anniversary - the person on the phone said she didn't think so but that she'd ask her manager and see what she could do. Upon arrival - she didn't do anything (I know this is not a service they offer but still...). Overall - a nice but expensive evening out!

I had read previous reviews and maybe I had my hopes up too high. It was the Swiss Mushroom Teriyaki burger I ordered. For the price, I wasn't that impressed. Bun was good. I think the teriyaki sauce needs to be thicker and sweeter. Having come from Hawaii, I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to local grinds. The ambiance and the service saved the night, though.

It's nice to see this place has been around for quite some time. Walking in, the vibe and decor felt very new wave/hipster. And the bar was strewn with fresh vegetables that had just been delivered, so that was an excellent sign. Service was very courteous, and we were seated right away. I felt slightly out of place wearing our hiking gear in there, but there weren't too many patrons on that Saturday noon, so I didn't mind so much. They had quite a wine selection and also some beers too, but I didn't want to feel too bloated before a long drive, so I refrained from ordering any. I decided on the Moonstone beef burger (they had a chicken option or a veggie one) with the homemade bun, and what also tasted like homemade pickles and pickled onions. It came with a side, which I was really tempted to order fries, but their soup of fhe day was black eyed pea soup with lamb meatballs and that just sounded much more enticing. I have to say the burger patty could have been packed a little better, but overall the flavor was very good and the bun was pretty amazing too, and all the ingredients inside complemented well too. The pickles were more sweet than sour (which I prefer). The soup was also good, wish they could have given me some more meatballs! It was a little more than I was hoping to pay, but I'd say the prices were still rather reasonable. I ended up taking home 1/4 of my burger to save for dinner.

What a gem of a restaurant, with it's intimate setting, freshly prepared meals and attendant staff! I came in to moonstone bistro while on vacation based on the reviews here, and was not disappointed. The ambiance is hip but not pretentious, with an open-air kitchen that allows you to see your food being prepared and the chef's communicating. The lighting was a little low and it was surprisingly not very full on a Friday night. I had a delectable black bean burger that was fresh and they changed some of the add-ons for my taste. Boo to extra charge for tomato when I leave out several of the toppings. The thing was way too huge, and the bun and burger were over and ill sized. But I did have a second meal later on from it. The fries were to die for, the clumped together ones were the best. I had really good service, as did everyone else in the place. The staff are friendly without being intrusive and got me on my way like I wanted. The chef seemed really nice as well. I wanted dessert, but couldn't find the room. Come on out to Moonstone Bistro the next time you want a quality meal with fresh, local ingredients.

Came by and picked up lunch for my mom and myself and had unfortunately done so when they didn't have salmon in stock. So I accepted ling cod as an alternative in the Salmon Soba Salad. I think the salmon would've been better as the ling cod was a bit strong in flavor for the soba noodles, but I will be sure to try this dish again with salmon in the future. However, the blend of flavors in the Mongolian Beef Wrap was impeccable and the portions were very generous as well! If you like your food on the spicy side, I highly recommend this entree. What else can I say? I was impressed by the attentive and friendly service as well as the tasteful modern decor and artwork adorning the walls. I'll be back!

I would give this place 5 stars but some of the food is quite a bit over priced for what it is. The drinks are, in my opinion, some of the best in town. My friends and I meet at here every other week or at least once a month for lunch, our waiter is amazing. I have gone at dinner time but the waiters are not the same, this made me not want to go back at dinner time, the waitress was not very friendly to say the least. Overall, the food is great, the decor is beautiful and the drinks are amazing!

Stopped here for lunch on our road trip to Vancouver; my friend and I joked that we looked like hooligans in our t-shirts and shorts compared to the regulars around here. The waiter seemed alright as did the food, which I expected from the price. One thing that really bothered me: they charged me five dollars extra for "splitting" the burger. I just wanted shrimp tacos and maybe a bite of that burger so I felt ripped off for being charged to cut that burger in half.. :/ Just dress fancy if you don't want weird looks like I received and be ready to shell out some dough for halfway decent food.

Best burger I've ever had. The homemade bun is the perfect compliment to the amazing meat and combination of Swiss and mushroom. I usually go for my burgers plain when the meat is this high quality but the teriyaki Swiss burger is in my version of heaven. A must. I order it every time. Also the coffee out of the French press is dark, full bodied, and brewed properly. A nice cup of joe!

We ordered Big Summer Salad ($11) and the Moonstone Burger ($15), with a side of tomato basil and cheddar soup. Both were delicious and well worth the price. Service was friendly and efficient. The burger was uniquely prepared with spring mix greens and cucumbers. My only complaint was that they serve french press elusively, which brought our price up to $27 for two. Overall, it was a great lunch!

This place is amazing. What an unexpected treat! We were visiting Redding last week from the San Francisco Bay Area and wanted to try a local restaurant (rather than a chain) for dinner the night before we left. Boy did we luck out on Moonstone! This place offers fine dining options in a casual atmosphere at pretty reasonable prices. Their food is all organic and seasonal and the dishes were very eclectic and presented well. I felt like i was eating a decadent meal at a fancy restaurant. I had the tomato salad (OMG so delicious i went to heaven and back) and the shrimp fettucini with the fried fresh mozzarella which was ridiculously good. I mean, we have restaurants like this in S.F. but they are way fancier and WAY more expensive. My husband had a salad with the homemade dressing (sorry can't remember which one) which he thought was delicious and the burger with the fresh baked bun which he also had to admit was the best meat he's tasted in quite some time (organic, grass fed is always the way the go!) The whole meal was flawless and so was my cosmopolitan by the way. The bartender clearly took great pride in every drink he made - i saw him meticulously blending and tasting each drink (hygenically with a taster straw) to make sure each one was perfect. It's obvious that these people take what they are doing very seriously and every detail is accounted for. They are perfection! Now if only they would move their operation down south so i can go there every weekend and try everything on their menu. The best i've had in years and years - highly recommended!!

Omigod. I was in Redding yesterday and today for a conference, and one of my companions had heard good things about the Moonstone. So, why not try it? I don't think I have had anything more delicious in my life. My two traveling companions decided to split an order of fish tacos and a huge salad. I decided on the Veggie Burger, with some fries. Conversation stopped, or went to a series of soft murmurs as soon as we tasted our food. Portions are large; I probably could have made three meals out of my burger but I ate it all and barely shared the crisp, gently salted, perfect fries. We split a desert--a confection that consisted of a layer of pecans, a moist cake of some sort steeped in spicy sweet syrup, a sprinkling of more pecans (and perhaps struessel? I wasn't taking notes, I was sighing between gobbles) and a dollop of cream (the waitress later told us, upon questioning about the interesting and unique whipped cream, that there was buttermilk added). I asked for coffee and got a French press with a timer so that I could brew my coffee to my perfect desires. The atmosphere is trendy, the service was wonderful. We noticed a wide variety of people, including some very well behaved young children, enjoying the delicious food. Oh, please, can't we transplant this place to our town? If I lived in Redding I'd try to eat here a lot. I am now hoping to be sent to more conferences just to revisit this amazing little place.

The only restaurant in Redding that provides you a city experience. The quality and presentation of the food is top notch. Besides incorporating many organic and local items, the food is actually professional chef quality, as the owner and head chef actually is trained and knows a thing or two about marrying flavors and ingredients that most chefs can only aspire to. I have eaten around the U.S. as some of the most prestigious restaurants which have won Michelin stars, and I can honestly say that Moonstone Bistro leaves me satisfied every time I go. Its my guilty pleasure, as I get to escape the small town grind and feel that I'm back in S.F., Napa, or New York when I dine at Moonstone. The only down side is the totally uncomfortable booths, I abhor sitting in them, its like having a piece of ply-wood at your back...but just ask for a table and you will be fine!

My wife and I went there for lunch today and had an excellent experience. Our server Aaron was spot on with all of his suggestions. The kitchen produced two wonderful main dishes and two extraordinary desserts. The wine we had paired nicely with our meal. If we lived in Redding we would become regulars.

We could not believe how amazing this place was/is. I heard it was a local "Organic Restaurant"; I am VERY picky about my food and had to check it out. Not knowing what to expect, I checked it out online. I was very excited to see that it looked to be a "fancy" place as we were looking for something for our date night. We were greeted and asked if we had a reservation. We did not but was still seated right away. (Next time I DO want to make a reservation in a booth though!) It was dark and an intimate, romantic setting, which is what I was looking for. I loved their menu. Everything is organic and locally grown. The front page of the wine menu showed the whole list of local venus/farms they buy from and use for all their produce, meats, wines and beers. Love that. Also, it states on the top of the list that if you are growing anything to contact them so they can use you and your "products" to buy from. My husband got a local IPA from Weed and I got a fabulous glass of their choic of a Cab. I ordered a house salad, which I could have done w/out (only because it was a lot of food), and their Southwestern-Silly Stroganoff made of black bean fettuccine and carmalized mushrooms. I was curious about it being vegetarian but it was heaven from first bite! My husband ordered the simple Veggie Burger made w/black bean, smoked tofu, and whole oats. I had to tell him to settle down sense we were in a nice restaurant and to restrain his orgasmic response to his food. I didn't finish my meal, as I HAD to try a desert. She recommended the Sugar and Spice and let me tell you~ it was ridiculously amazing in every way. It wasnt too sweet and it didnt matter how full we were, we MADE room for it! Yes, this restaurant was costy, but you have to keep in mind that you pay for what you get. Fresh, organic, free range and sustainable ingredients are worth paying for knowing what ISNT going in your body.

I love Moonstone Bistro. My wife and I dine there as often as we can. Their food is always amazing and I love that they change their menu every month or so. Unlike other reviewers, we have not noticed a difference when Che is or is not there. I think a good quality chef can teach his staff to execute what he creates and Che does just that. I will say that when he is there his energy is one of a kind. If you are interested in dinner and a show go and sit at the bar and watch the chefs in action. They also recently increased their cocktail menu to include a Mojito that my wife raves about. I would recommend to everyone that Moonstone Bistro is the best restaurant in Redding!

This is definitely the best restaurant in Redding. My husband and I have tried all the nicer places in Redding -- Rivers (blech), Maritime (meh), Nello's (good), etc., but Moonstone is the clear winner. The atmosphere, service, wine selection is all great, but the food is sensational. I had the filet mignon and my husband has a seared ahi "tuna casserole" -- both dishes were amazing, but my filet was without a doubt the best meal I've ever had. (The appetizers and desserts were also wonderful.) If you're looking for a nicer restaurant in Redding, don't even consider another place. Moonstone is the only way to go.

Went here last night. Good thing we booked, cuz they were packed. We had an interesting pate as an app, and it was pretty good. I dislike it when restaurants serve pates with toast points or some type of bread, and there are 3 pieces of it, when there are 2 people dining. Could they bring 4 pieces of bread? Would it really hurt them? And then there is half of the pate left, and you are out of the bread. Sheesh. Anyway, we had a very good salad that had candied walnuts and pungent bleu cheese in it - yummy. For the main, I had the pasta papyrus, and the pasta did come in sheets like paper. It was very good. The sauce was very delicate, and not too much on the plate. He had the fish and chips, and said it was good. His chips tasted a little too vineagery for me. Also $22 for fish and chips seemed a little pricey. we were too full for dessert, but we saw many come out, and they looked yummy. Oh, we would have like to try the special, but they were already out of them. It was a filet mignon served with udon and Chinese 5 spices. Mind you, we sat down at 6:45, and were told that there was no more of the special. They opened at 5 so.... what the heck? Anyway, I'd definitely go again, and probably go early in case I wanted the special.

This place is awesome. Food is Spectacular. Service is wonderful and friendly. The scallop risotto was so good I forgot I was in Redding. I actually felt like I was in a nice bistro in San Francisco. You will not be disappointed if you give it a try

Way over priced! The food is just alright. Tried it on a couple of occasions, once for dinner and once for brunch. Was disappointed both times. I wouldn't recommend.

After missing their booth at Taste of Redding, I think I was too full to eat any more, I finally got the chance to hear what all the buzz at TOR was about...the place is great and different! The calamari appetizer is fantasic and my salad was nice too.

Went here for lunch after reading good reviews on Yelp. The place was pretty empty and had table cloths and wine glasses, which made me skeptical I was going to get an expensive mediocre meal. Also, the menu had $16 fish tacos, and a $14 burger. Well, we took a chance and ordered the tacos and salmon fettucini. The food arrived and all skepticism went away. Both dishes had great presentation, and taste to match. Fish tacos came with a nicely prepared cole slaw, which complimented the fish well. A healthy portion of salmon came with the fettucini. The extra cost for fish tacos or a burger here is justified. Things are kicked up a notch. All ingredients tasted fresh. We seen the chef in the kitchen making noodles, and I suspect the tortillas were homemade as well. Wish we had time for the chocolate souffle, but the lemon pie we had was delicious. Glad we came and will be back.

Ate here a couple months ago and remember having the best BLT I've ever had - crisped prosciutto, arugula, fried green tomatoes, fresh bread and a great sauce. I'll eat there again the next time I'm in Redding.

After reading the reviews on Yelp, we decided to stop at Moonstone Bistro on our way home from Trinity Alps. Our lunch was fabulous, fresh and delicious. The menu is sophisticated and seasonal. I had a hard time choosing what to order. My 7 and 4 year old were also with us, and give the restaurant a thumbs up. They made the most delicious grilled cheese sandwich for my son. To top it all off, our waiter was so knowledgeable and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and will stop there again next year on our way back from Trinity.

5 stars for the fish tacos alone! Great presentation, huge portion, exceptionally tasty. And the salad with champagne-Dijon dressing was also excellent. Worth a detour.

I was recently visiting Redding,CA on business and dropped in at peak lunch hour to get take-out. I needed 12 sandwiches and salads for a business lunch and needed them to-go in 15 minutes. Not only did the owner and executive chef say yes to the large last minute order, but he and his staff put the food together in record time. And all of it was perfect and tasty! In fact, the burgers were so good that I came back the following day for lunch to try some other items on the menu. The food was SO fresh and a lot of the ingredients were local. I had driven past some of the farms while visiting some of the nearby cities. All I can say is that the next time I'm in Redding I'll be eating at Moonstone Bistro. Everything was perfect from the French-press coffee to the upside-down lemon meringue pie. The staff is also super-friendly and knowledgeable. The husband and wife team that own and run this place are superstars. Thanks for a fantastic experience.

I had heard many different mixed feelings about this bistro. I went in with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, and was a little surprised by the atmosphere. It appears very clean and orderly inside, however there really isn't much room inside.. It almost was claustraphobic inside. I ordered their burger, and he ordered their fish tacos. Neither of us thought it was to die for. Interesting and unique flavors, but nothing that blew my mind. I paid about 15$ for my burger.. which isnt absolutely unreasonable, but felt logans roadhouse has a burger with more flavor for the money. My boyfriend felt that Market St shrimp tacos and Cr Gibbs Fish tacos have by far the better flavor when it comes to the tacos. We weren't in love with the restaurant, so seeing as how there are such fabulous places to go to on the West Side for dinner like Market St, Girondas, and Jacks.. we probably won't be back for a long while, if at all. But hey, give it a try, and make your own opinions.

I've been to this restaurant on three occasions. The food has been wonderful each time, and the atmosphere is nice. Unfortunately, I agree that the service is very different when the owners are present (Che and Tanya I'm told). The waitress we had last Sunday was very rude. They were out of the stuffed french toast which was disappointing, and when we asked about substitutes we got total attitude. The rest of the staff was really nice and the Chef was really nice and okay'd my substitution with no problem. Thanks Chef Sean!

Found this place through Yelp while passing through from Oregon to the Bay Area. It is a little off the beaten path as far as restaurants go, but the food was fresh and innovative and the service was outstanding. We were traveling with our two yr old daughter and were a little nervous when we walked in because the place looked pretty fancy (wine glasses and linens) but we were seated quickly without a reservation. They even had Rocky chicken fingers for the little one which made her happy :)

Traveling through the area we read the other reviews and thought this looked good. We both selected the soup and salad. The soup was served luke warm and lacking any flavor and in need of seasoning. The salad was just a handful (very small) of mixed greens. The blue cheese dressing must have been bottled as there was no flavor and no cheese evident in it. I finally asked for some vinegar to help add some flavor and they gave me a small about of wine vinegar. Don't recommend this dish. We didn't try anything else.

We stopped for lunch at Moonstone Bistro on our way from Central CA to Southern Oregon. It is far superior to other places we have stopped in Redding over the years. It is great to have nice wines and interesting well-prepared food selections in the wilds of Northern CA. It gets 4 stars because I think the prices are just a bit too high for what it is. After all, they don't have to pay Bay Area rents, or Bay Area wages (which now include mandatory health care). Every item seemed to be about $2 too much. We had 2 glasses of wine, a soba noodle chicken salad and a chicken wrap. Our tab, with tax (before tip) was $53. Pretty steep for lunch. I don't mind paying for good food and service, but I thought it was high, and I dine out all the time, mostly in SF. We were greeted promptly on our arrival, and, due to previous bookings, were seated at the bar. The woman acting as greeter/front house mgr/cashier was our server. It was some time before she took our order, etc. (busy with someone about either a gift cert or a catering order or something). She did apologize for the delay. Worth the wait, as she was very knowledgeable about wine, how their wine list is developed, etc. Very informative as to the food prep, as we had questions. My soba salad was prepared al dente, with an Asian/spicy/ginger dressing that was very good. There were julienne of peppers, moist tender chicken (and lots of it). Very nice. It would have benefitted from a side of pita bread or something. My husband had the chicken salad wrap. (His fault: he failed to ask what was in the salad and he doesn't like bell peppers. Wraps are also difficult to eat so he wasn't thrilled, but, again, these issues are not the resto's fault). It was good-sized, nicely presented. The wines are interesting, carefully chosen. The by-the-glass selections change constantly and I believe there were 5 or 6 available. On balance, far better food than I would expect in Redding. Someone really knows food and wine and food presentation. The location leaves a little to be desired (mall). The decor and ambience: quite small, clean, nicely appointed but nothing out of the ordinary. If I found myself having to eat in Redding I would stop there again. However, I would rather leave home earlier and make it to Ashland where there are more choices and options for less $$ for eating on the road.

This probably deserves slightly better than two stars, but unfortunately, the exorbitant prices set an expectation that this restaurant falls far, far short on. I had heard excellent reviews in advance, and was fully prepared to love my meal, and was pretty disappointed. I started with a very lukewarm martini, followed by the duck confit. Although the flavors in the white bean sauce were quite good, the duck was so dry I considered sending it back (something I really never do). Seriously, how do you dry out duck, the greasiest, fattiest bird there is?? I had just one month earlier had the best duck I'd ever tasted at a restaurant in San Francisco, and it was the exact same price as Moonstone's, so I was doubly turned off. Redding has a problem with this spate of overpriced and underwhelming restaurants--Moonstone, Maritime, Market Street Steak House, and perhaps Rivers from the sound of it (haven't eaten at Rivers, but I hear very lukewarm reviews). None of them really delivers the punch that $30 entrees ought to, and I feel like they're passing off fancy plating and overblown menus as fine dining.

Well I went to Moonstone Bistro with two girlfriends and we were very pleased with our selections. The food was excellent and so was the service. I thought the prices were reasonable because of the quality of the food and presentation. Over all this is by far Reddings best.

PLEASE do not waste your money with this place. For starters the dinner menu consisted of fish and chips, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers...chicken...and pasta. For a night out with a significant other, 35$ a plate for nothing special is unacceptable. I ordered the "chicken" which was burned..tasteless...and dry. Nothing unique at all except maybe the greasy rice and over fried tidbits of veggies it came with. I ended up sick when I got home and was sick all night. No kidding. I come from the bay area and a family who own many successful restaurants down there- I don't even think redding folk appreciate this over rated and over priced tastless food. Moonstone Bistro- please get it together and stop trying to exploit redding people. It was my second try and will NEVER return. I am so disappointed because I really wanted for this place to be fantastic. There are not many options in Redding for spectacular food. Good luck.

well, talk about a breath of fresh air! we visit redding and trinity county periodically and have given up over time to eating at the really awesome same mexican family restaurant on the way up the mountain each visit...now, we have a new plan! if you are a fan of the trinity - shasta county area fly fishing and nature scene, but still love NOT roughing it for one truly great meal...welcome to the oasis north of sonoma - napa wine country! we were blown away by the hard-to find and glad we did charming family bistro in a low key strip mall location at the foot of the mountain near the center of redding and very close to the I-5 corridor. we asked for suggestions (with little hope) while visiting the local hospital for a special place to take family members and enjoy a nice meal, and -- no kidding -- this place was recommended over 3 times in one hour! 4 of us tried it out and the conclusion is that they are down to earth real family restaurant, with very sophisticated culinary talent that would work in sonoma - napa - san francisco bay area pool of foodie faves. very sophisticated amuse bouche comped to table: complex prawn dish - layered in flavors and texture. we were tired, so skipped appetizers and just shared house green salad -- server was passionate and fun suggesting 2 different oil & vinegar dressings (classic and champagne based) on the side so we could play around. lovely fish tacos ordered by 2 of us, fresh fish in parchment for 1 (bit dry, but still a delight) and steak frites for 1 -- succulent sauce, spicy, crisp frites. most entrees in $14-$24 range and good values for quality. killer chocolate souffle with creme anglaise for dessert. $15 corkage very fair and the by-the-glass pour of white was lovely (we made error of bringing a special red wine then 3 of us got fish!) \ easy-going service with appropriate level of interaction. very lovely overall dining experience and our local guests commented that they were delighted to hear it was there -- a new gem on the mountain. Full-tilt dinner easily under $40 per person with all the trimmings and tips. Lunch or dinner would be easy to do without drinks in the under $20 range. we will certainly return any time we visit the area. well worth a look and very different from anything else we are aware of north of sacramento. last note: while we were drinking wine and tea, we were quite impressed by the sophisticated cocktail list and fine wine list in by-the glass, 1/2 bottle and regular bottle choices. wish I had the energy and room for a lavender lemon drop -- looked nice!

We were a party of 5 on a Saturday night celebrating an anniversary. We started with the calamari appetizer, which has been a favorite of mine for some time. I cannot have a meal here without it! Our server was attentive and helpful with pairing wines and our meals. Members at our table ordered the filet mignon, the Ono (freshest catch of the day), and the fettucini. We boxed about half of our entrees so that we could have room for the luscious desserts and french-pressed coffee. We shared chocolate souffle and the chocolate hazelnut torte. Then Chef Che and his wife, Tanya visited with us at the end of our meal. How cool is that? Loved the FRESH FOOD - get on their e-mail list to get the latest menus & specials (and a libation to go with it!)! I do recommend a reservation for a Saturday night....because there is no hurrying and "turning of tables" feeling here. Relax! Their theme is "eat. drink. play." The kitchen "pirates' will keep you happy! THANK YOU!!
