Just took the kids here on Saturday for breakfast. It was our first time. We were seated quickly but had to wait quite a while for someone to serve us, and the place was not busy at all. He was apologetic and nice enough. However, I really started to get irritated when I saw two other tables eating their food already, and they had been seated quite a bit after us. The whole time of waiting after placing our order (30 minutes), we never saw our server. The person filling our coffee and water, though, was very efficient and nice. We finally received our food and it was delicious. When the host came by to ask us how we were doing, we said the food was good but the wait was too long. He actually walked away as we were talking to him and really never cared what our answer was! If you don't care about having good service, this place has great breaksfasts and a nice atmosphere.

My party liked this restaurant. I ordered a pastrami wrap and it was quite delicious.

Decent food and service. Not very memorable so probably won't be coming back.

Been here twice, once for Dinner and once for breakfast. Food wise, dinner was slightly above average, fish was a bit overcooked, but the veggies were tasty and my steak was pretty good. Breakfast was really good. Huge selection, waffles were awesome, turkey hash was great. The real awesome thing about this place. The service is amazing. Everyone in there both times were super friendly and went out of there way to get us everything we wanted and needed. Also, never too crowded even on Saturday morning at 10am. We will keep going back, especially for B-Fast.

Recommend Beach Grass Poway for a great lunch spot. The fries (thick cut) for the burgers are favorites of mine. They have unique offerings and healthy choices. Coffee drinks are good too.

Why yes, I AM a fan. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I regularly look for spots that serve eggs benedict and very rarely find some that compare to the excellence that is Lake Murray Cafe (and it's chain of restaurants). Like any eggs benedict connoisseur, you know it's alllllllll about the hollandaise sauce. Beach Grass Cafe got it down good. Buttery, soft, creamy, NOT lemon-y, and NOT chunky/thick. If it weren't for the sauce, it'd just be a couple eggs on toast. Literally.

The Lox was yummy. The waitress was nice and atmosphere was relaxing.

Jeanne and I went for dinner on Sunday night, at 6.30 and the place was quiet. The food is good, service excellent, and the atmosphere is perfect for what it is. House Salad: this was available in two sizes; J chose the small which was anything but. I had the Blue Burger (no surprise there). It was okay. I like my meat rare and it was definitely on the cooked side but still juicy and not overpowered with blue cheese, and the caramelized onions were a nice touch. The buns was really fresh, and fries were thick and baked. The portion was large so bring your appetite. Sorry, but this time we did not get to the dessert. All and all it was pleasant place to grab a bit to eat.

OMFG people....4 stars??!! Really??!! I ended up here on a weekend craving Denny's, but wanted to be adventurous. I swear it never works out. Got the home made corned beef hash, the wife got the crab cake benedict something or other, the child "panko crusted" chicken strips. HA, HA, HA!!! So disgusted I can only laugh loudly once at each dish. Corned beef hash tasted like dog food, the crab cake benedict creation tasted like cat food, and my sons chicken strips had been tricked into a bag of flour...not panko bread crumbs. And to top it all off everything had some funny tasting spices in it. I can't quite put my finger on it. I have never tasted or even seen frankincense and murr, but those are the only words I can use to describe the god awful spices they used in each dish. Yeah, that's all I can come up with to describe it.....FRANKINCENSE AND MURR....YUCK!!!

Tried beach grass on a Sunday for breakfast. Service was friendly, but the food was uneven. My ABC omelette was lukewarm and came with only three thin slices of underripe avocado (perhaps should be called aBC?). On the other hand my wife enjoyed her eggs Benedict. Coffee is mediocre.

Do not order the turkey chorizo "hash" there was waaaaaay too much potatoe (and it's cut in huge chunks - seems like they used 3 large potatos) not your typical "hash" if u ask me and the amount of ground turkey was probably 1/3 of a cup worth of meat. We had to scrounge for meat. Our waitress came by our table after only a few minutes of serving it and smiled at us and asked, did we want any boxes? Didn't bother to ask "so how we doing? Hows the food?" --- maybe I was expecting too much from their service. Cuz it really was an inviting kind of place. We probably should've got an omelet or waffles. Or just something safer. Better yet ASK how the food looks or is cooked cuz these were large portions...but also large in size. Carb overload!

This Place is Po ways answer to the Mission...the blackberry banana pancakes are delicious...so is the farmers scramble...french toast yummm!! I ....Yes you feel like you walked in to into a cocos or a Denny's however the food is inexpensive and it speaks for itself....The next time I'm in the mood for a ginormous pancake without fighting the traffic at the mission I will by all means be hitting beach grass cafe and enjoying my meal at this unassuming little spot!

Great place if you are looking for not so run of the mill food. For whatever reason, this place always seems to be slow. No matter how busy it is. Not sure if the solana location is the same way, but man. Anyhoo, we really like this place and have some great healthy choices as well.

Yummy, yummy! Another little gem in Poway! It's a smaller little place with some much needed decor assistance but the food is great and the serving sizes are HUGE! You can NOT go wrong with the huevos rancheros, it is so good and the prices are equally fantastic! It's a great place to go for a weekend late breakfast/brunch. I have not been for lunch or dinner so can not address that perspective, but may have to real soon Service can be a little slow so don't think you're going to zip in and zip out, plan to take your time and enjoy it.

I'm not one for eating out for breakfast, but my dad was in town. I had driven by the Beach Grass Cafe daily as I went home from work in Poway, but never thought of stopping by. I'm glad we decided to go here though! The ambiance is like a Hawaiian Coco's, cept this place has a full on bar (that I might have to look into when Dad's not around). I'm a vegetarian and ordered a veggie omelet with fruit and whole wheat toast on the side. I always feel jipped with veggie omelets, but this veggie omelet was quite different. Packed full of veggies, ranging from tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, onions, spinach and fresh avocado on top. I was very impressed! My dad ordered sausage, eggs and potatoes, which he said were absolutely delish. The sausage was no small little linky links...it was a full on sausage (that's what she said!) and even though I don't eat meat, I was impressed, as was my dad. I'm interested to try the place for lunch and dinner sometime. It's so close to my home that it'd be a great change from all those chain restaurants here in Poway.

Very accommodating with our baby, the manager (owner?) moved us from a small table to one of the largest ones in the restaurant just to accommodate our baby carrier. Warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Fresh fruit with our breakfast. Potatoes were cooked with peppers and onion mixed in, tasted very fresh (and not greasy).

We came here for dinner and was impressed with the food! Good portions the table bread was REALLY good. Since not many people know or come here for dinner we got great service. The prices were on the higher side and the dinner menu lacks direction but the food is comparable to the price.

Went here on a weekday for lunch. The place was pretty empty so we were able to get a table without a problem. I ordered the ABC burger and my friend had the California wrap. I've got to say, I was impressed with my burger. It was delicious. The fries were more like potato wedges, very big - which sometimes meant a bit dry. The pickle on the side was too salty for me. But overall I was pleased with my meal. I'm not convinced that my friend was loving the wrap or the potato wedges. She said it was all right. I can imagine this place gets busy for brunch as they have, what looks like, a good brunch menu. I will definitely be back to try it.

I got an acai bowl and espresso. Our server was very nice and attentive. The problem was the food. I took one bite of my bowl and made a sour face cause the bowl was too tart. I don't like sending food back, so I ate what I could. Even if the overly tart flavor was a fluke, the construction of the bowl made it difficult to eat. They put the granola (rolled oats, popped rice and dried fruit) on the bottom so it's very cold making it hard to chew. The espresso was average. Not great - not terrible. I won't be back.

First time here with my wife and daughter. The children's chicken tenders were fresh and delicious and came in adult portions. My wife got an ahi tuna sandwich and I had the blackened salmon (both on ciabatta). Both fish were fresh and tasty. The fries were thick steak style and were the best my wife has ever had. The service was excellent and the prices were almost too low for the quality (we got away under $40 including drinks and tip) My only regret is that I've lived in Poway for 1.5 years and just found this place.

Logged in to see the hours and was surprised at the poor experiences some patrons have experienced at one of our favorite family restaurants for a casual breakfast or lunch. We have tried most of the breakfast items on the menu and I do understand where some of the comments are coming from. But I encourage diners who were unhappy to consider giving this gem another chance if they're in the Poway area. If you have questions about the food, or special requests, the wait-staff know their menu and have always seemed eager to accommodate some demanding eaters in my group. If even one waitress or cook calls in sick during a peak time, it can really throw a small operation like this one off. While I don't know that was the situation, I do I know it happens. I would I hate to see a good place take hits when my family's experience has been uniformly positive. I would further encourage patrons to inform the manager of any dissatisfaction to give them the opportunity to address it immediately. Especially when simple requests like water, ranch dressing, or change for a 20 are being overlooked. I'm guessing the management would want to be informed of things like that.

Ordered the acai bowl and it was great! Not too sweet and plentiful. The wait staff was very personable and polite. Definitely looking forward to experiencing other menu items.

All I can say about this place is. Nasty, over priced, and wont go back. I have heard rave reviews about the pancakes that they serve here. I thought i would try them because i never get pancakes. I believe it was 850 for a plate of there special fancy pancaked. Bannanas and nuts in them or something. I cant remember its been a few months. Well... the service was very slow. Appeared that they didnt have enough waiters or table cleaners to cover the restaurant. I could not get a refill on my water... let alone the coke i ordered. The pancakes arrived and they looked like basic pancakes. I tried them and was not pleased with the taste. I was trying to get to the point of psychologically thinking I am going to eat this. Well..... i ended up sending them back and asking for my money back on the bill. I am one that is embarassed to return food. I just never do. How can you make nasty pancakes?? They were nothing special and had a super super floury taste to them. I will not be returning here.

Been here twice and each time enjoyed my orders. The lox and bagel is my favorite- a nice huge platter with the most moist smokey salmon I've had in awhile, and a nice array of sides to go with it- toatoes, avocado, capers, red onion and bagel with cream cheese- YUM!!!! The wait was a little long, and maybe adding more staff may help, but still would come back.

First off, service was horrible. We barely sat down, and the waitress asked us if we were ready. I told her we needed a couple of minutes, and she never came back. After about 10 minutes of waiting and looking around to see where she was, a different waitress came to our table, apologized and took our order. We ordered the eggs benedict and artichoke omelette. Both were over cooked!!!! When the waitress brought our dishes to the table you could already tell the pouched eggs were over done, as they were stiff. It was probably the worst poached eggs I have ever seen, yolks were cooked through all the way. It was very disappointing. Not only were the eggs in my omelette overcooked, but the ham was as well. It was like chewing rubber. The home fries looked like the cooks were in a hurry and didn't want to take the time to cut them into smaller pieces, as they were chunky, and huge and without much flavor. The best part of the meal was my rye toast. My husband and I decided that there are way too many breakfast places in and around the area to try this place again.

This hidden little gem is the best place to go to for breakfast. I highly recommend the banana blackberry pancakes. They are oh so fluffy and have a perfect blackberry/banana flavor. The farmer's scramble was also very delicious! They load the plate up and serve with some bread. The french toast was pretty good. It wasn't anything spectacular, however the maple syrup they have will make anything taste amazing!! If you're in the mood for some great and pretty inexpensive breakfast food, this is the spot to go! They also have a few other locations in the county, so if Poway is too far, I'm sure the other locations are just as good!

Food: Best part of the place! Consistently good without being pricey. I'm a big fan of the lobster omelette and their fruit side dishes. Fruit bowls get taken for granted at most restaurants, but the Beach Grass has strawberries, blue berries, pineapple, honey dew, and cantaloupe every time. Unfortunately, I've received burnt toast and english muffins a few times which is a little sloppy. Restaurant: Clean, quaint, and cozy. Sometimes it's a little too cozy when crowded and you'll be bumping into the next table which is an arm's length away and every once in awhile a few flies like to keep you company. Overall the decor is nice, with newly upgraded fans and lights, and well taken care of. Service: This is why I avoid going to the Beach Grass. I've been here about 10 times for breakfast and I keep coming back because this place has so much potential but the service is always slow. I finally counted the tables vs waitress ratio: 10 tables and 8 booths with only 1 waitress and 1 bus boy. The waitress (tall, skinny, brunette with short hair who is always there) does a great job but she is over worked! I don't blame her one bit, but I question the establishment when I always have to wait several minutes at the door before I'm even recognized. Then on average it takes only a few minutes before you get water, 10 minutes before you get your coffee, 15-25 minutes before you can even place your order, and almost 45-60 minutes before you're eating! If they improved wait time, this would be a 4 star breakfast spot.

Instant fan of this place! Ordered the "Stuffed French Toast" and it was amazing! Had strawberries and cheese inside, dusted with powdered sugar and coated with strawberries on the outside! Got my daughter some chocolate chip pancakes and she devoured the plate! Love this spot and it is now my local breakfast joint! Keep up the great work!

This has become my family's go-to breakfast place in Poway. The food is good, it is usually not ridiculously crowded, and the prices are reasonable. We have eaten there three times now. I recommend the Eggs Florentine; the eggs were poached perfectly, they did not drown the dish in hollandaise sauce, and there was a generous amount of spinach. My son loves the biscuits and gravy, and my husband has tried the scrambles which are good. I especially like their fruit bowl (nice and fresh) and the salsa they serve to put on your eggs. The jam for the toast is excellent also!

I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews.... we went at 11:30 today. They were not overly busy and we were seated right away. The person who seated us brought out our drinks. It was several (like 15 or more) before someone came to take our order. The waitress was friendly. It then took about a half an hour for our food.... Eggs Florentine and their "Special" hash. The eggs on the Florentine was poached to the point of being hard.... it is usually standard for Benedict eggs to have a runny yolk. I always order my eggs over medium so that my white is cooked and my yolk is runny. My yolks were hard. We asked for new eggs. The waitress was nice and apoolgetic about the eggs. My daughter's Hollandaise sauce was also cold. When the new eggs came for both of us we attempted to eat.... I had been picking at the potatoes in my "Hash" but they were very overcooked. I am not sure if it was the kitchen or if the waitress picked up our food late I gave this place 2 starts because the waitress was so nice (otherwise it would have been 1. She was hard to find in addition to the food issues). She gave us a huge discount. We tipped her based on our original check price. I would like to go back and hope this was a fluke based on other reviews but I am afraid to waste the money!

Late lunch? No problem! Beach Grass Cafe was located near all the places my friend and I had to be in one afternoon. This place wasn't too busy. The wait was reasonable. I tried their Tropical Storm smoothie that was so thick, you had to use a spoon. I ordered Kailua Pork Tacos (soft flour tortillas). I was very impressed of how the flavor of the pork resonated in my palate. I loved the smokey and sweet taste that made me savor every bite. Don't forget the Cholula! My friend ordered their Ahi Salad. She said, "This is the best Ahi Salad I ever had and I'm not a fan of raw fish." The food portions are huge. So make sure you go with a big appetite!

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit here very much despite a delayed seating because of name mix up. Thereafter service was great and very timely. Must say great value for the money and the food we had quite excellent. Lobster Asparagus Omelet Lobster Asparagus Benedict My poached eggs cooked exactly as requested. No reservations taken mid morning to early afternoon on weekends, but our wait would have been about 15min as originally told. We'll be back as we take a break from the Original Pancake House for awhile.

This place is AMAZING! I ordered Steak and Eggs with a bloody mary on the side. I ate it all up! They have a great menu..I am definitely coming back for more!

I have been here twice now with co-workers. Both times the food was great and the portions are definitely abundant. We have tried eggs benedict, ham & Cheese & avocado omelette, pineapple pancakes, french toast and banana & walnut buckwheat pancakes....all of which were better than we expected!

This location only got 4 stars because well it's not exactly like the one off the coast hwy. I love Beach Grass Cafe but it's just not the same as when you are right by the water. The food is tasty here but it's still missing something. I created my own scramble and it was delish! Portions are huge, so I ate breakfast and lunch in one meal. Definitely was too much for my tummy to handle. Great service. I would go back. But I think I would make the drive to the one along the coast hwy because it's just gorgeous there. Eat and then take a stroll...what more can you ask for when you are in San Diego.

There are only 2 tables with diners here and we have been waiting 25 minutes for our salad orders. After waiting 30 minutes the meal arrived. I had asked for the calamari wrap - said it was with oriental vegetables. Actually with very bitter arugula and a very large dill pickle. I hate dill pickles. The steak fries were not completely cooked. My husband had the Ca grilled chicken salad - it was OK. Pretty hard to ruin a salad. This was our second try here. This was not any better than the first time. We won't be back. Oh the presentation of the lousy tasting food did make it look good. The wait staff were good too.

I've been here with my husband maybe a dozen plus times in the past couple of years. I always get the same thing, Farmer's Scramble with sourdough toast. Their sourdough is thick and amazing. The food has been consistently good almost every time with the exception of a month ago when my eggs were a little overcooked and brown on the bottom. They also have great vanilla lattes. My husband was hesitant to go here with me because he kept getting dishes he didn't like. The Chilaquiles was one such dish. Overall I recommend this place for a great breakfast, good service, and fast service. Note: This review is for breakfast ONLY.

By first impression, this place looks sketch from the outside. There is no beach nor grass around. It looks like a billiards bar. Once you step in, theres more of a garden-ish ambience. I came in for brunch with my friends and we were all surprised with how good the food was. I ordered a chorizo omelet and the chorizo was surprisingly not greasy at all. My friend ordered the banana and walnut pancake--this is a must have! Our server was really nice. We ended up staying for a quite a while chit-chatting and she never even rushed us out the door even though the place was getting packed. Very welcoming atmosphere. I'm sure the Solana beach location is also great. Gotta try that one too.

It seems they're big Costco shoppers due to everything I used having the Kirkland label on it (c'mon at least but the brand name Splenda). The coffee was terribly bland and watered down. No one even came by to ask if we wanted a refill (not that we would have taken it). The gluten free pancakes were very tasty but the service and everything else was terrible. Just real generic tasting. You'll be better off buying your own breakfast from Costco and reheating it

We love this place for breakfast. They give you an abundance of food for a great price. They have such a variety that everyone will find something there that they love. 4 stars cause it's only open until 3 and I live so far away. :-(

I felt compelled to give this place props, especially because the service is quite phenomenal! We were seated quicky despite a minor wait, water and coffee were constantly kept full! I'm not too much of a food snob but the quality is about on par with the Broken Yolk or any other non-chain breakfast joint. What's also cool is the menu is quite diverse & has something for everyone. Definitely will be back next time I'm in the area with a hangover!

I am sort of new to the PQ/Poway area and Do not dine out much in the area. Overall it was decent. I am a professional chef and so some of the shortcomings I experienced today can be forgiven. I can also agree with some of the other reviews. Here's my breakdown: I ordered the chorizo egg benedict. Potatoes were steamed and had no seasoning or oil/dressings. But very yummy and healthier than usual breakfast pots. Eggs were poached perfectly, and the Chipotle hollandaise sauce was pretty epic. If anyone knows the speed & insanity of a brunch kitchen for a busy restaurant, they know both of those items are difficult to turn out perfectly everytime. I thoroughly enjoyed it. DEFINITELY ORDER THIS DISH! She ordered: Denver omelet (vegetarian w/o ham) overall was decent. Large portion but nothing special. She wasn't psyched about but wasn't upset about it. Coffee- we definitely got the bottom of the pot or just a pot that was sitting for a long time. But we did get there around 11:30am in the middle of a shift change. Overall: busy Sunday and we waited around 10 minutes max which is great. Service was good, fast, attentive. Menu is a bit big but seems to have some new style gems and breakfast classics. For 2 people, bottomless coffee, 2 large entrees was under $30 with tip. I WOULD go back for sure.

Generous servings, delicious food, and great service. I would recommend the homemade hash, stuffed French toast, and pineapple upside down pancake. Huge portions that you can share with another unless you are starving. Food was tasty. Nothing too sweet or too salty. Can't wait to come back to try their other food. Oh! They also have a bar!

I like it here - there's never a line, the service is friendly and the food's pretty darn good. I'm a benedict fan, so I tried their lobster benedict. I'm not really sure if it's real lobster or not but it was pretty tasty and I'd definitely get it again. They also have a chipotle hollandaise sauce for one of their benedicts, but I asked to have that on my lobster one - no problem and I'm glad I did :)

This place surprised me! We came here for lunch and ordered the chorizo eggs Benedict and salmon LOX on a wheat bagel. The chorizo eggs Benedict was spectacular, covered in a chipotle hollandaise sauce. The eggs were fluffy and light. They came with a side of buttery, roasted breakfast potatoes. Wow. I'd eat this every morning if my stomach would allow. The salmon lox was good and it came with tomatoes, lemon, a lot of lox, and capers. Exactly what I want when I want something light and healthy. Will be back to try their other eggs Benedict creations!

I was pretty bummed out after my husband and I ate dinner here. I was CRAVING soup and salad and ordered a bowl of clam chowder and a Caesar salad. The soup was good but my salad came out with about 1/2 pound of dried cranberries in it! Seriously??? That's just really weird and pretty disappointing. If you want to impress me bring out cracked black pepper and fresh Parmesan!!! I could care less about weird and random garnishes I really just want good food. My husbands filet came out garnished with a 1/2 taco shell and weird little sticks.... We probably won't be back

Came on a Sunday around 11am and it was busy but we got a table in about five minutes. We had a great breakfast... Stuffed French Toast, Popeye Scramble with spinach, mushrooms, bacon an cheese and then a ham and cheese omelet. All very fresh and very tasty. Good prompt service and a fun, homey environment. I want to go back and try lunch and dinner as well but for breakfast it's one of the best in and around Poway. Go and enjoy the Beach Grass Cafe for yourself it's one of those "must try" places.

PROS: * We were able to get a table right away with little to no wait * Customer Service was good and everyone is nice * Plenty of options to choose from on the menu CONS: * It took a long time for our food to come out. * Compared to some other places the food was just ok. This Place is a very open and welcoming place to go. If your not picky when it comes to food and you have time to kill this is a great place. But, if your in a hurry I would suggest you go somewhere else.

Food was mediocre at best. I had the Cubano sandwich. It was edible but pretty bland. Fennel slaw was not fennel, it was shaved Granny Smith apple. Tasty but not what I was expecting. Ice tea was weak. My daughter had a kids mini breakfast an the bacon was undercooked and what I mean is raw! Oh and so fatty I wouldn't let her eat it. Service was slow and we had to ask for basics like more water, silverware and extra napkins. Next time I'm in this part of town I think I'll look for another place.

I thought their food was fairly good. Better than expected. Needs some work on their decor and cleanliness. The dining area looked very outdated. Syrup bottle did not work, neither did the bottle on the next table. I had the french toast and it wasn't too sweet and good texture. My boyfriend had the chorizo benedict and it looked really good, but the potatoes was raw.

I do like this place quite a bit. It is really clean, and cool inside. The food is really really good, good price and good portions. The turkey chorizo scramble with the salsa is mouth wateringly good. They make smoothies and the bar is cool. The only reason this isn't a fiver is that the service is so so...but we keep coming back because everything else is awesome. If you go in knowing that your server will be almost robotic, but the food will be amazing, well you wont be disappointed.

Very good place for breakfast, they do an excellent job with service and I think their sauces are excellent. We went this past Friday morning for Valentine's Day and it wasn't busy at all. The wait was slightly longer than my liking but the food made up for it. My wife had the eggs Benedict and she forced me to have some of her food. The Hollandaise Sauce was terrific just enough flavor to compliment the eggs. I had the chicken fried steak and the sauce on this was great too it had little pieces of sausage mixed in the white gravy. The potatoes are prepared with onions and peppers seasoned just right and a better alternative to hash browns. I love sauces and these two dishes will bring me back for a second visit. One last thing that I thought was a nice touch was the cranberry jam that they included along with the butter for the toast. Nice alternative to regular jam. There is only one thing to be critical about and that is the coffee, not a place for a second cup. The service on the other hand was very good they were very friendly and gave good recommendations that were spot-on and helpful. A "must try it" for breakfast!

We found this place on yelp while looking for a near place to eat breakfast . Now is my husband and I favorite place to go for breakfast either Saturday or Sunday, the food and service is awesome!

This place is okay. It's not a favorite of ours, and we go here if our favorite breakfast spot (Kountry Kafe) isn't open. My boyfriend loves their Bloody Mary, and I'm a fan of their salads. The portions are big. Not a fan of their breakfast potatoes, I wish they had regular hash browns. Overall, not a bad place for breakfast or lunch.

Had breakfast there with friends a few weeks ago. FANTASTIC meal & service. Have the green omelet! Probably the best omelet I've ever had!

Came here with my friend for breakfast after hearing great things about it. I definitely left with a happy belly. Between the two of us, we shared the lobster benedict and stuffed french toast. I was very impressed with the lobster benedict, but felt the stuffed french toast was just meh. Their portions are quite generous; service was really good as well. Overall, it'd be a place that I'd stop by if I was in the area.

Service was good, but that was about the only thing that was ok. My girlfriend ordered the "gourmet" caesar salad with chicken. The chicken was so dry that the dressing on the salad still didn't make the entree as a whole any better. The only thing that was decent was the lettuce. She also ordered a mocha that, when it came, was completely luke warm. I ordered the stuffed French toast with "home fries." The home fries are really sautéed, chopped up potatos with red and green bell peppers. They need to redefine their home fries because they're not really anything close to being what home fries are supposed to be. We won't be back.

My boyfriend and I have made this our Sunday brunch spot. We've been here 3 times since moving to the area recently & we love this place. Its only open until 2pm but the food is excellent. Ive had the #6 with prov cheese instead of cheddar & egg whites. Veryyy tasty, fruit is always incredibly fresh as well. I also recently tried the classic vegetable omelette with egg whites & it was very yummy. The breakfast mimosa is my favorite & my boyfriend enjoys a bloody mary. He gets the Ensenada omelette & absolutely loves it everytime!! The staff is always pretty friendly & happy to seat us right away. Two Sundays ago we had a bit of a not so great meal, our toast was incredibly burnt & our server wasn't really on top of things. She was quite rushy & we both already knew what we wanted & she continued to interrupt us everytime we spoke, it got a bit irritating... Every other time has been excellent service however! We'll def be back as we really enjoy the food & atmosphere :))

Beach Grass has the best breakfasts in the Poway area. No... not IHOP. Beach Grass is the place. Had the house has with eggs. Vegetarian hash (I asked for no cheese) which was awesome with the included japaenos and onions with a side of Chalula. Great coffee and great service.

We were STARVING and absolutely jacked some serious grub at the Beach Grass. Sat as we walked in, and ordered green tea and a latte which took a few minutes as there was 1 waitress for about 5 tables. Between the 2 of us we noshed on biscuits & gravy, the EL Paso eggs Benedict and the Machacas scramble. Ok, the Machacas scramble was absolutely amazing! Pulled pork, cheese, eggs, black beans, guacamole, sour cream and tortillas absolutely made that dish! Super yummy! The Benedict had a ton of avocado on it so the hubby was happy..land splitting the biscuits was the cherry on top for this breakfast. Needless to say the caffeine didn't kick in and I went home and took a 2 hour nap.

Used to be better. They've changed recipes around on our favorite items for no good reason. The House Hash now has feta cheese and other differences I can't remember. It used to be pretty basic: potatoes, eggs, peppers, onions, jalapeños, jack or cheddar. Seems like they'd tried to fancy it up and ruined it for me.

Went here last night and felt sorry for the Waiter. He had no help! No hostess and he had about 7 tables alone. Took 15 mins to get water. This is a staffing issue on the management side. I had The Blue Sky Burger. The Blue cheese tasted bad (yes this can happen! It was really weirdly strong, and I love blue cheese. I ended up taking most of it off.) Burger was barely warm and medium not medium rare, my sweet potato fries barely warm also. Whole thing was meh. Husband had the Ahi sandwich, which was pretty good. We will try again, as the time before this was a much better experience. Management needs to figure out staffing so customers don't suffer for it.

Food was good. Decent prices but I could only give 2 stars due to lack of service. Waited 15 minutes before someone came to take our order. And then she only came by once after that to clear plates and give us our check. Had to raise my hand to get refills.

This is just what I want from a breakfast place: a nice assortment of options on the menu, efficient service, a clean and friendly atmosphere, and delicious food. There are a lot of little touches that make this place 5 stars in my book. When I ask for hot tea, I get an assortment of tea bags, not just one flavor. The vegetables in my California scramble are flavorful and cooked well (not cooked into a brown mush). The fruit assortment is likewise flavorful and good (not just honeydew and grapes). The salsa and jam are delicious. Just every little thing is done well. This is the best breakfast place in Poway.

I was in the area for a conference and the complimentary Continental breakfast was just not cutting it. The Beach Grass had a really enticing menu full of breakfast classics like pancakes, waffles, and omelets as well as Mexican breakfast dishes like chilaqueles and juevos rancheros plus a variety of benedicts. The restaurant is located in a sad plaza. The decor is nondescript and gives off a Denny's type vibe. Everything was a bit run down and a tad dirty. Allegedly, the other locations by Solana Beach are nicer. I ordered the Lobster Benedict with the Spencer's (Palm Springs) lobster benedict still in my mind. It was much more affordable than Spencer's at a mere $10.95. That alone should have alerted me to my dangerous ordering. The lobster arrived and it was almost certainly previously frozen. Instead if nuggets of white lobster meat, it was shreds of reddish lobster. I'm not sure why red - was it the spice? It wasn't as bad as I feared and actually kind of okay as a salt component. The accompanying fresh fruit was generally okay too with cubes of cantaloupe and honeydew, strawberries, and pineapple. John did just as poorly with his crab cake benedict. It could have used a crunchier crust and jumbo lump crab meat instead of canned. We shared one upside-down pineapple pancake, which was pretty phenomenal. It was a thick pancake with a caramelized top studded with chunks of pineapple. The caramelized bites were tooth-shattering crisp and sweet. I would have loved an extra handful of pineapple but it was delicious nonetheless. For a place like this, I recommend against ordering anything fancy and sticking to pancakes and basic stuff.

First let me say that the food here gets 4 stars. We had breakfast and it was yuhhuummy. I had the Baja Omelet which was amazing. I should really learn to take pics of the food I'm going to review, buuuut I'm too busy eating it. Anywho the reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because in my humble opinion, if you go out to a place that has fantastic breakfast, they should be serving Bloody Mary's...this place does not...or at least it does not advertise breakfast drinks (I saw wine though). Oh and in case anyone cares, the service was decent, I didn't have to wait in line to be seated (we got there around 10 am on a Saturday) and the price is right.

  • Heather M.

I don't know how anyone can dislike this place! The food is delicious! So who cares if the service is slow and the decor is mediocre... when it comes down to it, it's ALL about the food. My recommendations: 1. Banana Blueberry Pancakes (I don't even like pancakes and I LOVE these.) 2. Farmer's Scramble 3. Classic French Toast (on brioche, yum) 4. Scramble #5 (mmmmm)

I used to love the Beach Grass before they changed owners this last time around. The food has gone downhill, with little in the way of seasoning. I always ordered their excellent omelettes and was never disappointed, but no more. Service is hit and miss.

We've been here once before and it was decent; but oh my goodness, this time, 5/6/15, it was worse. We wanted it to be good because we want to have a great breakfast restaurant in this area. It is needed. It is sad to day that Coco's was good in comparison to this and they closed!! The management makes you wonder how anyone could think they could own and run a restaurant with this poor quality of service and food and expect to be successful. # 1: We had to ask for utensils and napkins. Not a good start. The waiter was pleasant but did not understand our requests. We needed to ask for a coffee refill several times. There were only a few people in the restaurant and it took a LONG time for our food to be delivered. My husband had a stomach ache before we left. The ranchero sauce on his huevos rancheros looked as if it had been dumped out of a can purchased at Target and had a flavor to match. We were very disappointed. ONE person sat us, took our order, served us and took our money. There was an additional employee noted, but ???? We have never given a review like this, but something needs to change. Who gives one piece of toast with a $9.00 scramble? The decor and paint need to be upgraded. The entire restaurant needs to be deep cleaned. This place is rundown and sad! There is so much room for improvement! We hope that this can happen! This type of honesty is brutal, but it is accurate.

Decided to see what Poway had to offer besides Denny's, Coco's and Kozy Kafe(sp?). This is Poway, so you have to keep the expectations on the lower side, it isn't the Gaslamp. This place is right next to the Poway Bowling alley and is impossible to gauge from the outside how busy it is. Massively busy this Sunday morning, crawling with families and LOUD. Our server was an amazingly good looking young woman...big plus!(don't usually comment on that, but she was THAT hot). She was competent as well, mixed up some nice Bloody Mary for me and mimosa for my wife. I only wish the kitchen had been up to the task...check it. My wife got the stuffed French Toast, ate it all and was really pleased, although she did say that she didn't really consider two pieces of french toast with a schmear of cream cheese and sliced fresh strawberries inside to be "stuffed" I requested the biscuits and gravy, eggs scrambled with American cheese on them, and potatoes extra crispy. What I got was what I ordered, but the potatoes were burnt, and the standard mix of jack/cheddar was melted on them, the eggs were not cheesed. The sausage links were large, lukewarm and gamey tasting, not very pleasant. The gravy tasted like it came out of a can or jar. Bill was $35.00 with tip. I'll give it another shot someday, but I was not impressed

So glad they opened a location closer to home. They are on par with the one in Solana Beach, just not as crowded. Had the chorizo scramble and it was good. They gave you a lot of fresh fruit too. Their orange juice is fresh squeezed. Came here for brunch and didn't have to wait long for a table. Plus, the food came out fast. Bought a livingsocial and can't wait to go back and use it!

Went in for breakfast on Sun. Not even a third full. Wait staff non existent! Had to ask for our order to be taken after waiting 15 min. Coffee was awful, like they were re-using the grounds to save money. Had to ask 3 times for coffee refills. Had to again ask after waiting for 15 min for our check and then again had to ask for someone to take it. Food was ok. Definitely won't be going back.

Got to say, I have been looking for a GOOD breakfast place that isn't so far away from where I live. I was told of this place by a friend of mine and thank god for that because driving by this place as I did many times, the place from the outside is just not appealing. (In ANY way!!) The location is middle of nowhere Poway next door to the bowling alley and some thrift stores. But after hearing her rave about the breakfast food here a couple of weeks ago.. I just had to try it!! Well, to my surprise when I checked in on Yelp, an online coupon for $5, $10 or $20 off your bill popped up!!! (BONUS!!) Walking in, the restaurant is nice and inviting, there's a bar to the left and restaurant seating to the right. I went with my family so I skipped the bar!! ha ha We were seated right away. I ordered the Green Omelet ( I shared a pic of it on here) the Home fries and toast! It was a hard choice as so many things on the menu looked good. My omelet was delicious!! HUGE portions enough to share with someone else which is what I wanted to do but everyone else wanted something different. My son tried the Potatoes Rancheros and was super happy with it.. Again HUGE portions, he couldn't finish it all and he's a big guy! My daughter had chocolate chip pancake HUGE! in the shape of Mickeys head. My other son had Pecan Banana Pancakes (sorry can't remember the full name) and he absolutely loved them! their dad had the Stuffed French Toast with Strawberries and cream cheese.. I did take a little taste of it and loved it!! I don't know if I emphasized HUGE on here enough, lol but just in case...Huge Portions!! they do have a Split plate fee that I noticed.. $2. for Breakfast and Lunch and a $3 split plate fee for dinner. I'm not a big fan of the split plate fee (especially since you are not getting anything extra except for a plate??) but Still a very good deal because you are getting a decent amount. I would have given them a 5 star rating but I felt like the service could have been a little better They weren't crazy busy as far as having a full restaurant so I couldn't understand why our waitress took a good 10 to 15 min to come by our table at all to say hello, I will be right back to take your order etc... and our order took about 25 min come out once we did order. However, the host did start us on our drinks right away and always came back to refill them in good time. I will definitely be back to try something else on the menu! ohhh and another thing, this place is like a little hidden gems because most good breakfast places usually have a long wait to be seated and this one didn't. ALSO don't forget about the online coupon when you check in on Yelp!! we got $10 off our bill!!

On a Sunday morning, not having to wait in line for breakfast was great. Our server seemed especially rushed and not friendly at all. Not even a "Hello, how may I help you?"....just a "what do you want?"... which causes 1 less star just on principle alone. There were just 2 of us adults, and a wide open dining room, but they put us in a back room with a family with kids. Why? The food was good and so we'll probably go back if we have friends in town and don't want to drive down into SD...but more than likely we would make the drive first because we just didn't get a great vibe from this place. I want to like it, but when customer service is lacking or non-existent, you lose me pretty quickly.

We've lived in Poway for years, and only just recently tried this place...better than we expected! It's in a strange complex, and has never looked all that appealing from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised by the cheery interior and good food. Have only been there once for breakfast, but will go back again. We had corned beef hash (the real thing!), pineapple coconut pancakes (delicious; not too sweet, and plenty of pineapple and coconut actually inside the pancakes), and we went out on a limb with a breakfast pasta from the special menu (not bad! probably won't order it again, but glad we tried it). I'm a benedict girl, and they have several to choose from, so that's next on my list to try! Service was friendly, although we had to correct an error on our bill...no biggie, they fixed in a heartbeat. Can be a bit noisy when crowded, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other at normal conversational volume.

I have been here for breakfast a few times and the food is pretty good. I would give this place 3 stars, but I love pancakes, and their take on gluten free pancakes is amazing! They are so light and fluffy, honestly the best gluten free pancakes I have ever had from a restaurant. Other than that the service is okay, and food is decent. My husband always gets the El Paso Benedict with chipotle hollandaise sauce and he loves it. However their chef must think that people like bacon burnt and dried out like cardboard, we have been served bacon like this on at least 3 occasions, and when we asked for new bacon it was undercooked. No happy medium for the bacon I guess.

Had breakfast here today with Cuz. We are creatures of habit and so when we saw the acai bowl and the fruit, granola, and yogurt bowl on the menu, we had to order them, even though we get them everywhere we go where they are on the menu (the acai bowl for her and the fruit, granola, and yogurt bowl for me). They were both yummy. The acai bowl looked to be a bit bigger than the acai bowls at La Mesa Bistro and Kensington Grill. Coffee was good not great, service was fine. They had some interesting things on the menu like baked eggs. I don't know what it is but I wish I hadn't gone the safe route and tried them. Cuz's daughter had blackberry banana pancakes and they looked quite tasty. It doesn't hurt that this place is in a strip mall full of thrift stores, I love thrift stores! I'll be back I'm sure.

We knew the breakfast here is excellent but we recently tried dinner. We were very pleasantly surprised by the portion size, the preparation of the food and the service. Unfortunately the restaurant was almost empty at dinner time-- hope they don't discontinue dinner service because it was very tasty and a great value. We brought home lots of yummy leftovers to enjoy later because we could only eat about half of our entrees.

This is the place to go for breakfast in RB/Poway! They have a great menu, their portions are huge, and their prices are low. They are very accommodating when you ask for a substitution and the service is always pretty good. I've tried the omelets, scrambles, eggs Benedict, and pancakes. I've really enjoyed everything I've tried. I've never had lunch or dinner here but the breakfast is excellent!

Loved the pistachio crusted mahi-mahi. The veggies and other sides were excellent also. The night we went, Bruce was playing guitar during dining, and it was so relaxing. I just came back from this place. I went for a happy hour with 7th power networking - a meet-up group. The place was very clean and the staff were very pleasant. I ordered two small happy hour pizza's which I asked to be made vegetarian. They said no problem. The toppings looked and tasted fresh. I also ordered a avocado tempura that was really good.

Best freakin' breakfast. Period. I have never been for lunch or dinner but you can't beat the breakfast, it is phenomenal. I especially recommend the baguette french toast or the lobster eggs benedict- YUM!!! Portions are large, and the food is unique and fresh. Highly highly recommend.

The food was pretty good, the service was NOT! We went for lunch, not breakfast, on a weekday. They had ONE server for the entire place. There aren't many good and healthy options for food on Poway Road. When trying The Beach Grass Cafe for lunch, I was pleasantly surprised. The menu had an abundance of options, the service was friendly, and the food was tasty. What more could you ask for?

I honestly wish I could write a complete review, but I could not even get into the door at this establishment to rate the food. Sunday night, myself and some friends were wanting to go out to dinner in Poway. I mentioned Beachgrass cafe based on the great reviews going around. It was 7:30pm on a Sunday night, not an unreasonable hour to dine out. We pulled up to the building and noticed a gentleman glaring at us through the side door, I'm assuming one of the cooks. We entered the restaurant and noticed we were the only ones there. We asked the girl what time they closed, she told us 9pm. We said, oh we don't want to bother you, it looks like your closing. She in turn said they were trying to leave early and it would be better if we came back another time. I thought this to be extremely rude. I understand entering an establishment 10 minutes before closing, but this was ridiculous. We are paying customers not to mention excellent tippers. I was appalled. While walking to the car another two cars pulled up. I told them they were closing and that they weren't serving anymore. If Beachgrass Cafe wants to turn down potentially $150 in sales with all the lost business, so be it. I will never attempt Beachgrass Cafe again.

I recently moved back to San Diego from NYC to the Rancho Penesquitos area and I drove by this place thinking it looked cool, but was in a really weird parking lot. The restaurant is a dark and in a somewhat odd location, but the food and service are amazing! If you split a dish with a friend, they bring you an entire new portion for the friend and you end up getting more food! The salmon salad and all the salads are great - the dressing are homemade and delicious/unique. I've now been back 3 times since my first visit and it's a staple restaurant. Coming from NYC, I have lots of choices in restaurants and I'm really picky, so this is a gem!

i'll be honest. i didn't want to eat here. the outside of the building is not very, well, appetizing. it's RIGHT on the street of Poway road. they are still playing with how to set up the furniture right as you walk in. but i liked it. i was won over by the food. really interesting, diverse menu with a Caribbean appeal. the hollandaise sauce was respectable, they have great coffee, it is clean and they serve fascinating food. i had wheat toast with avocado and spices. where else can you get that?! so, do yourself a favor. bypass the "ghetto" outside and brave the quirky entrance. it's worth it for the food. the manager has been there each time, making sure everything was full and correct. and the prices are pretty reasonable for the average "eater-outer." cheers

I was here a couple weeks ago while driving around trying to find a nice little place for breakfast. It caught my eye and it was a great find. The breakfast menu was pretty vast, and the food was pretty good. The breakfast potatoes were excellent. The atmosphere was so-so, wide and spacious, but typical. I will definitely come back here for another breakfast, and maybe try it for dinner!

Hit this place for dinner and we were all very pleasantly surprised. The service was so warm and friendly, the portions were generous, and everything was just delicious. It was "burger night" so the very good Angus beef burgers came with complimentary pints of beer! I had barbecue pork tacos which were fabulous - better than any of the Mexican take-out places by far. This is a really nice restaurant - I will be going back for sure.

Great food, great service. Excellent coffee. Went for breakfast twice now, ordered different things each time. Pancakes are nothing special, if you compare them to Original Pancake House, but fine. I ordered Kulua Machaca once. Very good, but a little spice. Still worth eating, even if my mouth was on fire. They make their sauce fresh, so sometimes the chilies are hotter. My husband ordered omelettes both times. Very good. Yummy bacon. Delicious potatoes: Red potatoes with peppers & onions.

YUCK, is all I have to say. I ordered the home-style meat loaf & potato dinner. My daughter ordered Cajun Chicken Fettuccine; my meat loaf looked like someone mixed the leftover plate scrapings into Alpo. It was disgusting. In between trying to swat away the swarms of flies and gagging down my soda that tasted like the nasty plastic cup had never been washed, I was overwhelmed by nausea. The restaurant itself is dirty and the utensils and dishes are cheap, truck stop ware. Stay away from dinner at this place! I guess their breakfast is good? I don't even want to attempt to find out. YUCK YUCK YUCK!

We've been here for breakfast and lunch. Food on both menu's was very good. They have an eclectic menu and most people will find something they like. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Their lunches come with fries, slaw or fruit. Their fruit side is loaded with good stuff like blueberries and pineapple. Beware, portions are large! Boxes cheerfully provided. We'll be going back.

When I first walked in I had to wait 8 minutes before I could even find a hostess to take my name down. I was the only person in my part n waited about 15 minutes before being seated. My servers name was michelle which she neve told me and I had to find out from the hostess. She seemed frazzled and stressed and then completely pained to take my order. I asked if two of the beakfast appetizers would be too much for one person. She said not at all. Half an hour later I get my granola and fruit yogurt bowl which is gigantic and a whole other huge plate of baked eggs. I look at it all in shock and ask for the bake eggs to be packed because I most likely wont finish the granola. The server obviously annoyed does as I say. When I look in the box she brought me she had pretty much thrown the eggs in the box since they were all over the food and the box. I eat a little more then Half the granola dish and package he rest. I asked for the check and a napkin I never recieved. And without another word Michelle leaves n brings both things back 5 minutes later. I left upset by the lack of customer service and kindness. I won't go back

Poor service! We had to ask the manager what was taking so long. It took us 45 minutes to get pancakes and a chicken breakfast burrito, we had to ask multiple times for coffee refils, water and for an orange juice that we had ordered. The food has never disappointed us, the poor rating is for the poor service.

First off I ate here before the new ownership and decided it wasn't for me. After reading that new ownership took over I decided to give it another try. My parents were in town so we decided to try it for breakfast. Well I was impressed the service was great. The food service was prompt and even the manager stopped by to make sure we were doing ok. I had the machaca tacos and they were great!! The portions were also good! I will definatly be going back!

While I'll likely give it another shot due to the general lack of decent dining in the Poway area, the Beach Grass Cafe is currently not ready for prime time dinner service. There was a terrible odor like spoiled milk in the place, perhaps coming from the bar area which is currently under construction. The service was slow, the food was cold and even the bread was mediocre at best. They are not currently serving alcohol. No big deal but it probably should be mentioned before people are seated or soon thereafter. I was surprised to learn that they have other locations as the staff seemed very inexperienced. I'd love to give the restaurant another chance if I can convince my husband to return. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and our first impression wasn't good.

Nice place for delicious fresh breakfast, tried the asparagus omelette with home fries, very tasty. Little bit pricey, nice atmosphere when the fireplace is going.

This place on Poway road has a clean interior and friendly staff. The pancakes are good but the Monte Cristo was soggy. So far a mixed experience but I will try it again. The rest of the family had no complaints but it is hard to screw up pancakes.

Just left Beach Grass....will never go back again. The service there is absolutely horrible. It took them 10 minutes to take our order, another 10 minutes to deliver our smoothie, and we never got our food. The were only 3 other tables being waited on and they all arrived after us. There was 2 waitress' and 1 waiter on staff, they were not busy at all. I ended up asking where our food was and then asking them to box our food as I had to get back to work. ...we were there for 45 minutes. I told our waitress that I was extremely dissapointed with her. She never checked on us, never refilled our drinks and the other waitress deliverd the soup. The place has an open kitchen, so you could see that they were standing in the back just talking to each other. Too bad the service is so bad that it's stopping me from going back there, the food there is actually really good. If you only have an hour lunch, don't bother going to Beach Grass, you'll never get your food, and they won't pay any attention to you.

The food is quite good here, especially breakfast and they offer mimosa's and champagne on weekends which is a nice touch. Their omelettes are excellent. Lunch and dinner is good and reasonably priced. However, the kitchen frequently gets the order wrong and we end up waiting for a second meal while one of us eats the correct meal alone. Not fun for dining out. I noticed that the waitresses don't write the orders down and verbally tell the cooks special ordersor requested changes which may be the problem. Service is inconsistant. Sometimes excellent, sometimes slow, but always friendly. I will continue to go for the food, but will emphasize any special request.

After hearing great things about this place from some friends, I decided to go there today at noon. I had a choice of breakfast or lunch. I sat in the back room and everyone back there was ordering breakfast so I decided to follow their lead. I figured they might know more than me. I ordered the Machaca Tacos and received my order very quickly. They were great. The guy across from me ordered the french toast and it looked really good. The table behind me told the waiter that their breakfasts were excellent. I can't wait to get my husband to this restaurant for breakfast at the very least. Service was great and I didn't notice any smells that the other reviewers mentioned. I highly recommend this place for breakfast. Can't speak for any of the other meals.

Everything you need and expect from a breakfast joint. Price and food selection are solid and predictable for a san diego breakfast. I eat here regularly and take the kids as well. Once our panakces were not cooked all the way, b.vut hey mistakes happen. The service is friendly and we never have a hard time getting a table or good service.

This was our first visit to Beach Grass for dinner. We are fans of their breakfasts and decided to try them out for dinner as we had a coupon. Although dinner was good, I would say breakfasts are the way to experience this restaurant. Their dinners are on the pedestrian side. However, I have to say that the prices of their seafood entrees are pretty decent (under 20$). You aren't going to receive a fabulous seafood entree at those prices, but still... I couldn't resist and ordered the grilled swordfish (16$). My husband ordered the prawns and pasta (14$ I think?). The swordfish wasn't creative by any means but it was a good piece of fish, not too dry and well flavored. It came with tastily prepared veggies, a mango salsa and a rice pilaf, which was good if reminiscent of Rice a Roni. My husbands prawns were good and so was the pasta, although again there wasn't much to his dish that we couldn't easily do at home. We opted to have the dinner salad with our entrees that came with a nice rasberry vinaigrette. They serve an herbed bread with dinner that I think may be baking soda based. In any case it was quite good. I'm not sure I would ever come back to this place for dinner again. Even with the coupon, dinner was expensive as we had to get two beverages and a kids meal as well. But it was reasonable for being seafood. However, the food was pretty plain jane. Decent and healthy (which is a big plus) but easily forgotten.

Stay with the signature dishes. I have not been to any of the other Beach Grass Cafe's in this San Diego chain, but it has a great reputation for Breakfast. I came here for lunch.. This location has been cursed with failed ventures in the past so hopefully BGC has staying power. We ordered the Fish Tacos ( the fish was red snapper..icky for fish tacos in my opinion). If you're going to tinker around with a classic make sure it tastes good.. Another group ordered the fish tacos and complained about it to the waitress. We should have done the same, it was terrible. I ordered the Teriyaki chicken wrap.. I would describe this as a mess, a complete mess. Drenched in Yoshida's sauce, it oozed out everywhere. Back to back bad dishes.. I was all ready to give this place 1 star but I spoke with the coworker that referred me here. He admitted it's hit and miss after breakfast. Just stay with the signature dishes he said.. If I only knew this before.. I'll try this place again for Breakfast.

I think I like the Solana Beach location better. Not that the food is better there. It's the same food wise. I think I've just been spoiled with being able to walk to the beach after brunch at the Beach Grass there. But since moving inland, I'm still happy that they opened a Beach Grass in Poway. We were going to the Original Pancake House every weekend. That was sinfully good, but I would just go home and take a nap afterwards. Now, Ares and I can go there after his swim lessons (3 blocks away), and we can go to the Poway Train Park after brunch. We've made it a monthly tradition. The food is just so much healthier.. and not to mention, they've got mimosas! AND had my first ratatoullie here! They made it into an omlette. YUM!

i have conflicting opinions: FOOD: great! Lots of variety. Really well presented and yummy. DINING ROOM: seemed to be in a different class than the food. It was clean, but reminded me of a Denny's. Maybe because the dining room was so bright in color-off white? I don't know. But I was expecting one thing when I walked in, and was pleasantly suprised that the food exceeded my expectations.

When I'm craving something new to try I can always rely on Yelp for some of the hottest places to check out. Today's brunch selection was discovered there and after reading the great reviews from community members, decided to head out to Beach Grass Cafe's newest location in Poway. A bit far from any body of water, this diner's menu had everything from eggs and toast to full on entrees. I decided to try their corned beef hash plate with potatoes and sourdough and my friend treated herself to the turkey sausage, spinach, and provolone omelet with wheat (but was mistakenly brought sourdough instead). Considering how tasty the food was, we didn't really mind the minor mistake and really enjoyed our meals. The corned beef was awesome and seasoned perfectly. Not too salty and perfectly savory, I devoured the entire thing with my gigantic slices of freshly baked sourdough. I've never seen such thick slices of bread! Toasted on the outside, the bread had awesome texture and melted in my mouth despite the thickness. My friend's omelet had a great balance of flavors as well. I'm not sure if the sausage was made in house, but it was some savory stuff indeed. Besides the size of the omelet and toast, the most impressive thing about the plate was the fruit bowl. Filled with fresh cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, pineapple, and blueberries, the fruit unselfish would be worth the price of admission just about everywhere else. There was even a slice of watermelon and orange as garnish. While Poway tends to be known as sort of a desert for delicious foods, Beach Grass Cafe did not disappoint in the flavor department. Everything about the food was great. The only small gripe I had was with the menu advertising that both potatoes and fruit were included, but when I went to order, was told that it was a typo across the entire menu and that a lot of people complained about that. If everybody is complaining about it, the obvious solution would be to fix the problem and appease the customer instead of leaving the glaring mistake as it was. While I was a little frustrated with that, the overall experience was enjoyable and I would be likely to return to try something new next time. If you live in the area, this is definitely a place to frequent for breakfast, lunch, or even dinner. Food: 8/10 Service: 7/10 Price: $$ Atmosphere: 7/10

Their quality, service, and portion sizes are hard to beat! The pricing is so-so, but I guess you pay a bit more for the great food. I love being able to grab breakfast or lunch here when I feel like thrift shopping at the strip of shops next door. I only took off one star because I am not a fan of their decor - it's tacky.

We went here for dinner the other night. I ordered the ABC burger, and it was pretty good. Lots of toppings and very tasty. My husband ordered a steak, and the mashed potatoes had a sandy texture that was really off-putting, and the steak itself was dry in a lot of places. So, it doesn't appear to be a place to get a steak. We will be back to try more, though! Nice place to go with the family.

Great food, great service. Love the pumpkin pancakes. Tried the Acai w/ cereal last time. They were generous with the delicious Acai stuff. There's a nice separate room for private groups. Looks like it holds 15 or so. They have jar of their raspberry preserve on the table. Anything you order tastes good.

Went here with the family on a Saturday morning for breakfast. We were seated right away in a nice booth with a window but close to the fire place. It was a rainy day and I enjoyed watching the rain out the window wile I was warm inside by the fire. I orders the CFS (country fried steak) with eggs over medium, home Fry's and sour dough toast. My wife ordered the pineapple upside down pancakes. The wait was about average not fast but I wasn't sitting there wondering where my food was. When the food arrived the portions were big but not to big. the CFS was great one of the better ones I have had. the eggs were cook to my Likeness and the sour dough tours was thick cut like Texas toast. The Pineapple upside down pancakes were great but thought it could have used a special syrup or something. maybe crushed Pineapple cooked with brown sugar in to a syrup ya that would do it . all in all I enjoyed the meal and the relaxing atmosphere. I will be back .

My friends brought me here for breakfast. The food was good and the service was very accomodating. I ordered th Green Omelette and it was really good. My friend ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and I must say that I think that it's the best one I've ever tasted!! The best part of my experience here would be the upside down pineapple pancake. It was delicious to the point where it didn't need any syrup.

  • Mindy Y.

The food looks and sounds better than it tastes. They have an extensive breakfast/brunch menu but the food itself is just bland and flavorless. I ordered the Eggs Florentine and it felt as though I was just eating air or styrofoam, since I couldn't taste anything in any of my food! I got full but was not the least bit satisfied. Even adding avocados didn't make any difference, which is shocking. No next time for me.

I think I've discovered the best breakfast in Poway, although it's really no surprise - this place has been on my radar for awhile now, and I know that all of the Beach Grass locations are known for good breakfasts. I went for the pinapple upside down pancakes, although I was also eyeing the Pina Colada pancakes (same thing, but with coconut) that were on special. They were SOOO delicious. My only complaint is that the syrup is contained an olive oil dispenser, and it's difficult to shake out. Also, it would be nice to have other syrups to choose from... coconut syrup would be amazing, and maybe pineapple? Is there such a thing? The hubby ordered the chilaquiles after debating for a bit whether he wanted a scramble. Ultimately he was disappointed in his choice. Chilaquiles, for anyone who hasn't had them, is sort of like a deconstructed breakfast burrito and looks very much like a breakfast skillet or scramble. This one was made with colored tortilla chips instead of tortilla pieces, which is a fairly common substitution. I took a bite and thought the dish was yummy. We were there on Mother's Day and the wait was short and service was good. Not sure if they do this every weekend or just on Mother's Day, but there was free coffee out front for those waiting. Our server was attentive, the food came quickly, and our kids were treated well, which is always a plus. It's very loud in the restaurant, and isn't the prettiest place, but we were seated by a window, so we were fine. Beach Grass is located next to the bowling alley, in the sketchy thrift store strip mall. This particular restaurant pad has seen quite a bit of turnover these past few years (used to be Dad's of David Westerfield fame along with a couple of other name changes... Bluebeard's, etc.), so hopefully Beach Grass can keep it going for awhile.

Being new to the area I had checked this place out from the yelp site. Although there were mixed reviews for this restaurant I was willing to give it a try. Needless to say, the bad reviews were spot on. We sat at the bar, but there was no bartender. The wait staff was very unattentive. I had the Lobster Benedict, it was okay. Nothing to brag about. I don't think we will be back.

I would give this place 2.5 if I could. After reading their lunch menu, I was excited to try this place out. I went with some co-workers the other day and we all left disappointed. The décor was nice and there were plenty of seats. It wasn't busy for lunch during a weekday afternoon. I ordered the lamb burger while my colleagues ordered the tuna melt, salmon wrap and chili plate. We all thought the food was just ok. Based on other reviews this place might better for breakfast dishes? I wouldn't recommend this place for a work lunch though. We waited for quite some time to get our food and our check which was unexpected because the place was practically empty. I might try this place again for breakfast and maybe their happy hour but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Came here for Sunday brunch, thought the place would be packed, but luckily there was ample seating. The service was great, some of our friends were late, but instead of being annoyed, the servers made sure those of us who were there had plenty of coffee and drinks. The food was also great. I had the ABC burger, so good, and made to order. I tried my friends biscuits and gravy, it was really good as well. The gravy was perfectly seasoned, and the biscuits were light and fluffy. The pancakes came highly recommended as well. I liked the fact that you can request different fruits to be added, don't have to stick with what's on the menu. The pancakes were huge, one would be plenty me. Great place to have brunch with a large group of people.

  • Evelyn R.

Horrible. Not only was the food extremely unhealthy, but it didn't even taste good. If it wasn't drowning in gravy it was soaking in grease. Probably the worst place I've eaten all year. If I could give negative stars I would.

My experience is based on the Poway location during breakfast hours. Food- 4.5 stars Service- 4 stars Price- 5 stars Ambiance- 1 star Compared to the other breakfast locations in the area, this restaurant had good service, good food, good selection and good prices (especially on their drinks, Bloody Mary's are only $3!). The ambiance and location were HORRIBLE. When I looked up this restaurant on Yelp I was surprised to see their other locations. The owners definitely invested more time and money in the other two locations, apparently there's no love for their Poway restaurant. It's in an old restaurant that they repainted an ugly booger green (on the inside), it's dark with minimal natural lighting, and better yet it's in an old strip mall with thrift stores! If my boyfriend and I weren't going 10 mph on Poway Road, we would have never have tried this restaurant.

If you're going to go to Beach Grass, please visit the location in Solana Beach. The food is better, the atmosphere is better (by a LOT), the service is better, and the crowd is better. That said, the ratatouille omelet I had here was OK. Not great. It was huge, so I took half home. Luckily I got it with egg whites, I can't imagine eating that many whole eggs... Whatever my husband had wasn't memorable. And the service was slow & kind of spotty. I actually felt pretty bad for the waitress who was helping us. She just seemed sad. :( The location is really strange. It's definitely on the beaten path, but once you enter the area it seems kind of off. I don't know how to better describe it. It seems to be in an old pizza hut or something. I'm all for recycling, but for this kind of restaurant, it just doesn't fit. So yeah, I can still remember exactly what we had at the Solana location. And how great it was to sit outside with our dogs & enjoy a relaxing morning near the beach. I remember it all fondly. We'll be back to that location, but not this one.

Their breakfast impresses me every time I go. The first time I went I wanted something healthy tasting with fresh vegetables. I got an artichoke and spinach scramble and loved it. It wasn't greasy and was served with fruit that was fresh, ripe and had flavor. The second time I tried - and loved - the huevos rancheros. I wasn't expecting much since the other dish I had was so healthy and because they serve turkey corizo in another dish. But my meal was great! The sauce was great - it wasn't overly sweet like a lot of American-Mexican food. Great flavor and quality!

The curb appeal is not impressive , I like to refer to such a place as a " Hole in the wall gem! " Once you step inside, the restaurant has a warm romantic feel with linen table clothes, candles and a warm fireplace which gives it a cozy appeal. The service was excellent and very courteous. They made you feel like a member of their family. The food was artistically presented with good size portions. I loved the smell and taste of the hot homemade rosemary bread and the fresh crisp mixed vegetables were cooked perfect! My husband loved the chicken piccata ( not too lemony) and I was very pleased with the stuffed chicken breast . My husband loved the food so much he ate his and finished off mine as well ; ) I heard this place was a good choice for breakfast, and now I would also recommend it for a nice dinner out too! * One of the best values in Poway! Fives stars for service, food , cozy setting and price!

This place is so amazing for breakfast! I decided to try it out after moving to the Poway area recently, and it's now my regular weekend breakfast spot. I've always thought paying for breakfast was a waste of money since my husband makes an incredible breakfast, but I've changed my tune! At first I thought their Cafe French Toast couldn't be topped, but then I tried the Orange Raspberry Pancakes! I wait all week for these pancakes because they're so extraordinary! The wait staff is exemplary, and you can't beat the prices.

We went here twice--once for breakfast and once for lunch. Service sucked for breakfast and nobody was too impressed with the meal (eggs benedict and strawberry stuffed french toast). Lunch was better--salmon burger and french dip sandwich. The french dip had a ton of meat on it and looked pretty good! Green apple slaw was pretty icky!! Steak fries were good and clearly made out of real potatoes.

Love this place for breakfast. As per usual the Lady and I split our meals...I ordered the "Eggs over crab cakes with Hollandaise sauce" Amazing.....eggs perfectly cooked, sauced just right over two very tasty crab cakes. She ordered the house hash, which was also amazing. Service as usual was very good. Beach Grass Cafe is the way to go for Breakfast.

We have been regular breakfast customers. We've tried their new dinner service twice in the last 3 weeks. It is OUT OF THIS WORLD, in taste, portion size, service, price and value. All of the food is FRESH, not canned or frozen. First time we had Cioppino, Meatloaf, Steak Sandwich and an Entree Salad. Portion sizes were plentiful, properly seasoned, lighter rather than heavier, and fit the bill. Second time we had the sirloin mignon (a center-cut top sirloin wrapped with bacon, served with a blue cheese sauce) that is to die for, and their VERY FRESH clam chowder - lots of clams, potatoes, clam broth, cream, herbs and seasonings. The only downside is they don't have a regular dessert menu yet, but they are working on it. This is by far the BEST restaurant in Poway. No entree over $16.99 - that's value for you. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Apparently this location in Poway is no longer owned by the same folks in Solana Beach and is now independently owned and operated. Went for a Saturday night dinner, w/o a reservation and were immediately seated and quickly greeted by Miguel, our waiter. I had the crusted mahi mahi and my wife had the chipotle chicken, both of which were excellent. Preparation and presentation were both first class. The menu is very fairly priced, and even on the inexpensive side, as is the wine list. The portions and wine pours were both greater than the norm. Very attentive service and all in all, I would give this place 4.5 stars, if I could. The only complaint is that the chipotle chicken could have been a lot more spicy but, still very good.

Been here twice now, for two office birthday celebrations. Both times, the whole gang came here for breakfast. The service is friendly and attentive, and best of all - no wait at 9am! Both times I've ordered the Ensenada omelet, with potatoes and English muffin. Why order the same thing, the second time? Because all the other choices (especially the pancakes!!) sounded so delicious, that I couldn't make up my mind in time and just reverted back to my first dish. But it never fails, when they bring out those pancakes it looks and smells so wonderful that I tell myself to order it the next time. And I will surely try to decide more quickly the next time around! The portions are huge, that I always bring half of it back to the office and have it for lunch... at like 2pm. I left breakfast so satisfied that I wasn't hungry again until my day at work was almost over! Their menu is quite extensive, so there's definitely something for everyone.

Love Beach Grass! They have delicious breakfast & lunch! I just wish they were still opened for dinner so I could try them out for dinner but now they close at 2pm. Great service...doesn't get too busy on weekdays....great food....and PLENTY of it. Come w/an appetite..as you'll surely need it!! I recommend for lunch, one of the sandwiches, as they pile the meat on it...but if you come for breakfast, grab an omelette. You won't be disappointed. I hope this place stays around for a long time. They deserve it. :)

For Poway it is a good breakfast place. I usually get their omlette of some sort. Food is always fresh and tasty. They don't get 5 stars because they don't open early for breakfast on weekdays and the service is consistently slow. Overall good joint for Poway though.

LOVE the pineapple pancakes (a MUST try!!) and the scrambles. This is my favorite restaurant for breakfast in the area! I first discovered The Beach Grass in Solona Beach. Both locations are amazing. I rated it 4 stars because the service isn't as good as the food. The food is so good its easy to overlook! Sip on delicious coffee and relax while you're waiting. (the coffee is awesome) Please don't go expecting to rush in and rush out. It's a very popular restaurant which seems never to have enough servers/staff. I've experienced slow service both locations.

I came here once because I had a buy one get one entree free coupon, and I generally like to give local, non-chain businesses a try. The coupon was a tremendous value at almost $10 off. The atmosphere was cozy casual and not too fancy. I liked seeing the brick fireplace in the middle; adds to the feel-like-home effect. The home decorating side of me wanted to add lighter, breezier decor with more natural materials. Now for the food: I ordered a coffee which was good, and my son had a hot chocolate. It came in a big mug full of whipped cream. It was quite special and had a unique taste; kind of like Abuelita hot cocoa with notes of cinnamon. We both ordered eggs Benedict, though I had the El Paso version. Both were delicious! The hollandaise sauce was spot-on, and the El Paso hollandaise sauce had a subtle spicy twist and chorizo on top. The English muffin was easy to cut and not too thick, so that the sauce could meld with it. Fresh fruit on the side was indeed fresh and home fries were okay. There were some sautéed veggies mixed in, which was a nice touch. I would prefer the potatoes a tad bit crispier and with more herbs and flavor. Service was friendly and fast. I look forward to going back and trying other items on the menu.

Was in the mood for second breakfast with mum and Wee One Sunday morning so we decided to stop in. For starters, minus a few stars for the employees hating their jobs and taking it out on the customers. Ask for a highchair... don't care! Ask for some water... don't care! Ask for a clean table, syrup, a spare plate to share food with Wee One, a coffee cup without lipstick stains, the check, the RIGHT check... Don't care! You ain't gettin' it! But I guess if you don't mind eating at a dirty table with no water on dirty dishes and don't care whose food you pay for, then you could always just rate this place on the food. Ordered the stuffed french toast and the eggs Benedict with potatoes and added a side of fruit. The french toast was thick slices of bread (pretty tasty if you order it unstuffed, I'm sure), "stuffed" with cream cheese and fresh strawberries, dipped in egg and then cooked. Unfortunately, it leaves the inner part of both slices of bread uncooked with raw egg. So, sorry Wee One, no french toast for you. The eggs Benedict tasted like butter. Period. No lemony flavor of hollandaise, no vinegary flavor (which I find enjoyable) on the poached eggs. Just butter. Very disappointing since that is pretty much what I order at every restaurant and then judge then on. The potatoes were a bit overcooked which made the skins tough, but the peppers were undercooked so eating them was flavorly appealing, but texturally defunct. I will definitely not be back.

I almost feel bad writing this because the guy seemed nice, but our experience here was awful. We were the first ones here and the people who worked there genuinely seemed a little surprised. Our drinks took a bit... Plus the coffee was watery. Unfortunately the food was bad too! My waffle came out hard on the outside and raw on the inside. The bacon was burnt to a crisp and I had a shell in my eggs. I was so sad! My boyfriends good came out ok, mediocre at best. I have to say the server was nice to take off my breakfast; he was also very apologetic. I hope this was just a terrible day for them because our meal a few months ago wasn't that bad.

So I went there....was thinking about eating..there were 2 people eating there...I waited..and waited...and waited..."Johnny" walked up asked me where I would like to sit..I laughed and said in an open table...then I paused and thought. Why are there SO many open tables??? I asked where the manager was and he said not there and laughed. I said why are you laughing and he said b/c he's never here. I said ok, where's the owner? He's said he only comes 2 days a week. I said is he at another restaurant? He said no...that's just how Jose and Rico are..they are never here...HE "Johnny" just comes to work and does his job... I asked so what do you do when someone gets upset about their food and asks to see a manager? Johnny said he takes care of it and just "takes it off their bill". NOW FAST FORWARD....I LEFT...Came home and read the reviews below.. I AM GLAD I DIDN'T EAT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!

This half-burnt toast is a metaphor for my experience at The Beach Grass Cafe in Poway . It has good, high-quality food, but they haven't figured out how to make it part of a great experience. During my recent Sunday morning experience, the place was dank, the service was slow, and the food was cold. I was pleased to find that there wasn't waiting when we arrived. Unfortunately, the small staff was insufficient for the few people there. Also, the decor is dark and the booth in which we sat smelled vaguely of diapers. They took our order quickly, but had to wait a long time to get it. It was cold when it came and the toast burnt. It would have been great otherwise. Coffee refills were non-existent until it was time to leave. Although the food was good, the experience was wanting. There are too many alternatives to return.

The lobster Benedict was absolutely repulsive. The egg was raw and the second my fork touched ,there was a clear liquid substance that ran all the way to the other side of my plate. The sight of that along with the extremely fishy smell did it for me. I couldn't even eat the potatoes. I had high hopes the reviews were pretty convincing unfortunately my experience was awful. The waiters were nice I asked our waiter if this was normal and he said that that's how it served. I am not the type to return food or make a scene so I just left.

I don't like handing out two stars. I like the bright side of things, but when you send back bacon at a breakfast joint... No Bueno. I have been to beach grass a bunch. I think they serve a solid omelette and they know how to cook an egg. Every dog has it's day though. This place is super hit and miss. Service is usually bunk, especially on weekends. Today I went with a girlfriend, Friday brekky with a mimosa... Surprise!!! They apparently "gave up" their liquor license (really?), which takes mimosa or brunch totally out of the equation. Not thrilled. We proceed to order, as to not look like complete boozers who must have drinks with breakfast on Friday- My girlfriend gets a green omelette (which rocks), and I get the standard and fool-proof bacon and eggs. I have never sent back bacon in my life. I can cook bacon with one arm and blindfolded. If you are in the restaurant business and specifically breakfast- bacon is your bacon. It's inexcusable to serve a dried out, greaseless and cold plate of bacon. Period. Sadly- this place just misses. Service, mediocre food and now mimosa-free. Goodbye Beach Grass.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone smh!!... My girlfriend and I wanted to try this place out since we saw the reviews on yelp...But the service was not even to par, waited a long period of time for our order, and not to mention there were eyelashes in both of our plates! So with all that being said I give them one star only reason is cause the coffee was pretty good

The Coconut Pineapple pancakes are amazing, almost like a great pastry. Get eggs and bacon added for $2 more. Also lots of great lunch choices, plus they are open for dinner on the weekend. You can sign up for the 5 Stars program, gets you discounts and free stuff.

Poway is a rather far reach for me, especially for breakfast time but my friend and I decided to give Beach Grass Cafe a try. Located off the main Poway Rd. this place look deserted when we first showed up around eight for some good morning eats. This place tries to capture the cafe bistro feel, but falls short with a diner like experience. We were seated upon coming into this place, but we never really grasped who our real sever was the whole morning. Looking over their beverage menu they offer a huge variety of stuff for waking up in the morning, I always get coffee while my buddy went with a smoothie. Unfortunately the tropical storm smoothie tasted just like pineapple juice and at the end of the drink we found out why, it wasn't ever really blended ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ). I was in the mood for some pancakes, some sweet ones. I went with their chocolate chip pancakes combo ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ) which came with two eggs and some bacon. The eggs and bacon ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ) were rather okay, the bacon tasted too crispy for my liking, but all was well until I got to the pancakes. The hot cakes ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ) weren't fluffy and tasted very dense, almost heavy. Most of the time you try to go for light pancakes, that are crispy on top but fluffy in the middle, they didn't quite hit the mark here. However I did like that they didn't throw a whole bag of chips into them, a lot of places go wrong there. My friend had ordered a custom omelette ( yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… ) with a side of beans. She commented that it was a good omelette except that the jalapenos had the can taste to them, like they were pickled. The hot sauce that came on the side wasn't the spiciest, she ended up resorting to chuola. While Beach Grass Cafe isn't exactly a bad spot to grab breakfast, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice. The service was lacking for us, we had to almost wave someone down to get some water and some refills on my coffee. Then again, maybe thats because we never really knew who was serving us, different people came to take our order, bring the food, drinks, etc, drop the bill off.

We we're very disappointed, they didn't have everything on the menu to order. The food wasn't bad, it was just very expensive. It costs us over 50 dollars for breakfast. That's for my daughter, my husband and I. The juice was 3.95 a glass!!!! Too much money in my opinion and we were still hungry after we left!!!!

They've Gone Down. We've gone to this place for some years and were very disappointed today. I was given a napkin that was dirty because it had been wrapped around an also dirty/used (seemingly ketchup stained-knife). I requested a new set and did get one; but, the waiter was not that shocked or particularly apologetic in responding to me at first getting a clearly used knife in what I hoped was not also a used napkin! Yuck! Our Diet Coke and Iced Coffee glasses seemed all ice with very little beverage. This is a change from the past, when the servings were generous with the wait staff always coming to provide refills. Our waiter went thru the motions of doing the right things; but, our sense was that he was in a rush to get us to be done for his next tip. Again, a change from the excellent wait service we have had in the past. I ordered the Greek Omelet with Breakfast Potatoes. The omelet was good but the potatoes were very basic...no spices, etc. Seemed like they were just boiled potatoes. We decided today it is time to seek a new local breakfast place after this experience.

This place used to be good or at least what I remembered. We stopped by on Thursday, took them 15 minutes to get my name down then 15 minutes later, still waiting. Thats 30 minutes so far. Turns out it was graduation but they should have been prepared and staffed more employees. So we left. Attempted another try this morning. Got seated right away and our order taken quickly. Looks good so far. My fiancé ordered medium rare steak and eggs with a side of white toast and I got traditional Belgium waffles with a side of 2 eggs and bacon. Our food came out 30 minutes later. The steak was well done so he asked for another one. Few seconds later our server said sorry we ran out of steaks. At the same time I heard another server telling the table behind me that they ran out of leaks. Sounds like they don't have any to begin with. How do you mess up on the last piece of steak? My fiance said he'll just take the eggs and toast, thinking that they'll remove the steak and give us back the plate. Maybe that's restaurant policy but he said new eggs are being cooked. 15 minutes later eggs came out. 10 minutes later, burnt rock hard toast came out. I don't understand why toast didn't come out same time when they had the down time in between. My waffles were so-so, nothing special. However my bacon came out burnt like bacon chips. I don't know if it's the kitchen's fault or whatever but this place definately needs new ownership and new staff to focus on customer service and perhaps a new menu. I feel like they need to apply to that show on Food network like Restaurant make over. We basically got a box for my waffles and took his eggs home and I heated up our own toast. Could have had a decent breakfast at home. They didn't charge on his plate, just my plate and coffee that they never came around to ask for refills. Hate to say this but wouldn't recommend anyone else to waste their time here.

It pains me to write this review as I really used to like this place. Rewind about a year - green omelette special, fresh salsa, great taste, good bread and potatoes. Today - runny eggs in omelette, very greasy potatoes and burnt toast. Didn't feel great after eating. There has been a steady decline with this restaurant in the last few visits and now time to call it quits. Will not be coming back. Sorry owners, you had a good thing but are blowing it. Lunch has never been good at this place but breakfast was always a win until now. Looks like I'm not the only ones - read recent 2015 reviews ... place is on a downward spiral - avoid.

Beach Grass Poway SD: Poway 11am Monday 14th June 2014 Four Stars After hiking Iron Mountain, Liz, KatieO, and I went to the Breach Grass to enjoy Brunch. Since we were filthy with sweat, dust, and last night's alcohol were sat in the back of the restaurant. #dirtykidssitintheback. I had the Chile Verde chilaquiles with Kalua Pork ($2), Over-Easy Eggs, Black beans, and Spanish rice. When out food came out, Liz got a great picture of KatieO and I instagramming our food #inception. The food was great. The green sauce was nice and tangy but not really spicy. The pork was fatty and salty. The eggs were running. The chips had that nice in-between crispy and tender texture. I enjoyed the dish thoroughly. The rice and beans were okay. Next time a side order of sour cream.

I have never given a 1 star bad review, but my experience here was horrible. It took them 35 minutes to bring two coffees and a soda when there were only 5 other tables of people (not busy at all). The food came out before our drinks. My eggs benedict were cold, my friend got lobster benedict and said it was good. Once the drinks did come out mine was cold, sides were forgotten... overall very poor service.

Inconsistent! Ive been here several times and only a couple of times did I find the food great. The other times the food was just mediocre. Service is never top notch. It's adequate but sometimes they are slow and inattentive. My last visit our bill was $45 (2 adults and 1 child) which I thought was expensive for breakfast. Portions are fairly large but I'd rather have consistency and better quality food. We won't be back.

We've been coming here for awhile now...enjoying their breakfast and their delicious Bloody Mary's. But unfortunately today, we found out that they are under a new management and have gotten rid of their alcohol license!! NO!!! that can't be true!!! So no more of your delicious Bloody Mary's and Mimosas?? What's breakfast without the two? We almost were going to leave and go elsewhere, but we were so hungry that we decided to stay and order. To top off having no BM for breakfast...SERVICE was AWFUL!!! The food took forever to get to us...maybe over 40mins. The waitress had no clue if one menu included eggs or not...served us food without utensils and napkins...then refills my sons glass of Sprite with water...WOW!!! I don't know what to say...but new management means changes (in this case for the worst), new workers who are not properly trained, and cooks who can't get the food out on time means a Disaster to Happen!! Hopefully they'll get their acts together soon, because we don't want to deprive our kids their favorite meal here, which is breakfast.

What a great place!! Healthy food options and smoothies! Great service. Right when we walked in we were greeted with an amazing smell of holidays and a really nice man, Rico (maybe the owner) He was friendly and expressed how happy he was that it was our first time in. The food and smoothies were fantastic and the plating presentation was on point! I love when places take time to put the plate together in a fancy way, it makes such a difference! I will be back and can't wait to bring some friends!!! Thank you for great food and exceptional service.

Keeps going downhill. Food is still good but service is terrible. Forgotten sides. Toast arriving 10 minutes after food. 10 minutes to get drink order. Restaurant wasn't even full but still understaffed. Used to be our go-to breakfast spot in Poway. Hello Broken Yolk!

We've tried a couple times to give this place a go but we just don't seem to be having any luck. The first time we went it took 40 minutes to be seated because the hostess didn't show up to work and the wait staff was running the floor, their tables, and kitchen as best as they could. Which waiting happens, we understand, but they didn't know who to sit first, how many in what party, or anything. Once we sat down, we waited about another 10 minutes before someone came to get our drink order. The waiter was very nice and very apologetic for the short staff that day. We ordered our drinks, and asked the waiter to take our order as well. He seemed to get a little flustered that we wanted to order food right away also. (after just about an hour of waiting we were hungry..) 20 minutes go by, we get our food. We were really impressed. Thinking the food was well worth the wait. The kids were happy, we were happy, good to go and thought we would give it another try some other time. Fast forward to today, we decided to go grab breakfast again and hoped to have better luck this time. We got in and we're seated immediately, off to a great start. And that's pretty much where it ended. Sat for about 15 minutes before someone took a drink order, then another 10 before we had drinks. We had no silverware to stir our coffee and our waitress never stopped by to refill coffee until the end of our breakfast. So the coffee cup sat empty for a while. Once food came out, the adult plates were cold, the kids complained about the eggs not tasting right and still being soggy, and didn't even attempt to finish their pancakes. We decided to just pay and leave as fast as we could just to get out. This place is officially off our list, which is a shame because it has the potential to be good.

Sadly I can no longer recommend this place. The hot chocolate comes without whip cream, the sourdough bread has changed, and the fruit served was mostly rind. We probably will not be back....

My family is happy! We finally found a breakfast place near by that doesn't rhyme with Croken Tolk AND has GREAT service! And did I mention DELICIOUS food? I ordered the green omelette. It had asparagus and zucchini and spinach and feta. Once I added chicken sausage, like my husband said, the dish was made for me. And it was every bit as good as you would imagine. Came with a generous side of fruit and an english muffin with homemade jam. Oh and pretty decent salsa for dipping. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and he did not stop talking about how good it was. A generous portion but nothing that would keep you in bed for a few days! Most of the dishes were in the $8-10 range. The kids meals were wonderful too. Daughter had the funny face pancake with raspberry jam ($3.99). It was huge. 2 of them could have shared. Son got the chocolate chip pancake combo ($5.99). Came with eggs and bacon too. Another huge portion. The only not great thing as the coffee. It tasted like your typical drip coffee with no oomph. And no real cream. Just the little packs. The best thing about Beach Grass? The service! Top notch! Brenda was amazing. She made the crowded dining area feel like each was the only table in the place. Bravo Brenda!

The food is good, we like to go there for clam chowder and a sandwich on lazy days. The restaurant setup and decor is nice. The wait staff is good and very nice. The pricing is good. When you go, bring a sweater, it's always just a little too cold in there to be comfortable.

Wow... This place USED TO BE GOOD... I went with my family, my sisters fiancé and my boyfriend, and all I can say is how embarrassed I was to have even mentioned going here. Let's begin... First- we waited for quite some time to be seated- when we finally sat down and ordered... Then came the real "fun"... My poor boyfriend needed his chai (due to me waking him up super early) and they were out! How do you run out of chai?! Then they were out of grapefruit juice.... Their coffee machine was "down"... They seemed like they had nothing! After being there for a good 15 minutes we finally received our water... Found out my juice I ordered was out- got told they had cranberry juice... Which I didn't want but got anyways. After one of us was served, my dad was told his Ruben he had ordered was out of sauerkraut... My moms food came next... She had to ask for silverware for our table... Then my food came- they eggs florentine... The tomato was just the inside.. I didn't get my hollandaise I asked for on the side... My sisters food had an eggshell in it....my boyfriend s scramble was served last- after everyone was already done... His guac was brown. We asked for more water and the waitress spilled on the table and used my sisters fiancés napkin he was using to wipe it up... And didn't bother filling the rest of the waters... Terrible service, terrible food.... NEVER GOING BACK.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside... But the food and service never disappoint! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. If you don't love breakfast, then you are missing out! Ok, what to expect: ( I come either Sundays-can be a little crowded, but not usually a long wait or Mondays-no wait) Service: Great. I like that they always have the same waitresses and busser working. They are very friendly and attentive. Drinks get brought out and refilled quickly. Plates are cleared when you are done and we always get checked on a good amount as well. Prices: Average, with coffee or tea $12-$15 per person Food: DELICIOUS!!! Portions: Big- but perfect if you are really hungry. I have had many things on the menu. My favorites are their Benedict's and omelettes. Being from San Diego... I judge a restaurant by their avocados. Lol. May sound silly.... But I knew Beach Grass was a winner when I first came based in this theory. My big veggie omelet- stuffed with all sorts of freshly chopped greens, came with perfectly ripe avocado piled on top... A lot of it and no brown at all! I also judge a great breakfast place on their jam too. Yep, you will find the most scrumptious home made (tasting) jam served with your toast. Blackberry I would guess. I have had their acaii bowl and French toast too. And yummmmm. That's it! Try them out and you will be glad you did. On that note... I am now craving Beach Grass breakfast!! Haha

Good food! Horrible service!!!! They do not have a liquor license so they cannot make you a proper bloody mary. Thank god we had a living social and got ten dollars off. The California chicken wrap was quite delicious with the steak fries.

Dang - so disappointing! The Beach Grass use to have this amazing salmon scramble with onions, cream cheese and capers that was divine with a Sunday morning Mimosa but some genius decided to rid of the alcohol and the cream cheese. My fav dish is now just an ok smaller version of what it used to be. You'll get no warm and fuzzy feeling from the service and the former bar area at the entrance has become a wasted visible storage space and reeks we will be closing our doors soon. Even if they do stay open, I will have to forget before I come back.

I love the Solana Beach location so after a hike with gal friends we stopped here for brunch. The service was poor but the food was still tasty. Upon arriving the hostess didn't greet us but came to the stand quickly and left. She came back and told the couple in front of us, "we don't have any tables right now" and walked away. Um, really?! The couple took it upon themselves to write their name on the wait list and passed it to us. The Hostess slowly cleared a table and after about 10 minutes returns to seat the couple. She never greeted us but after another 4-5 minutes she called our name and seated us. We were tucked away in a corner and it took about 10 minutes for the server to even acknowledge us. Once we ordered the food arrived in a decent amount of time. They appeared to be short staffed and the servers seemed a bit flustered. I noticed that the waitstaff were inefficient as they would check on ONE table and go back to the kitchen. Then come out with silverware, drop at a table and go back to the kitchen. They didn't check on the tables all at once to save time and trips. This makes for slow and poor service. Not sure we will be back which is a bummer since we now live in Poway.

Very disappointed. This used to be my favorite restaurant but now it sucks. No alcoholic beverages and new management. The place has gone down hill. Very upset since there's not many restaurant choices in Poway.

Incredibly slow service. Waited 30+ minutes for our food on a Friday morning with 5 tables in the restaurant and two servers. Ordered our daughter's food 10 minutes before ours and it came out at the same time. Our food was cold when it arrived with the exception of my side of eggs because that came out 15 mins after my pancakes. We NEVER send food back and had to send my husbands meal back because it was too cold to even enjoy. I am actually writing this while I am waiting for our server to bring me the check...he is not in any rush. I was a server for many years so I understand the normal delays, but this was bad. One star because the gravy on the biscuits was one of the better I've had. One star because the food was OK and the server was polite. We don't get to eat out much, so this experience was especially disappointing.

We came here for the first time on a Sunday morning. There was a wait by the door just to give our name but no one was there to seat us. Wait staff approached the front several times but no one helped any of us. The two ladies in front of us finally asked if they could seat themself. When we sat down at the table in the middle of the room none of the waiters even attempted to not run into our chairs or us, I finally had to switch seats after being run into several times. The My husband and I each ordered the lobster eggs benedict. The eggs were hard boiled and not poached at all. The "home fries" were the worst I have ever had. They were cold, like they been sitting out on a plate for a long time. They were bland and hardly cooked, it was like eating raw potatoes out of the fridge. We will not be returning.

I went here with a group of friends after a hike and I have to say this was the best decision I could've made today. The food here is incredible. I had the country fried steak and unlike a lot of other places, it is the right amount to satisfy you without overdoing it. The gravy is delicious and everything was perfect. We were seated almost immediately and the food came out within half an hour. Honestly it would've been worth the wait even if it had taken any longer. I will be coming here more often to make this my go to breakfast place.

Great breakfast place for our fam. It is quiet and no wait on a weekend morning (but we are always there before 9). My toddler does well here so that is a plus. Haha... He enjoys the CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKE and can almost finish a whole order (and eats very little normally). In fact, we really like it too. It has a tad bit of crisp on the outside but is so soft and made just right - not too sweet, not too doughy, just perfect. The PINEAPPLE PANCAKE is another good pick for pancakes. I always tend to get the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK. i love me so me cfs... and this ranks top 2 for me. The breading is different - fried, but somehow light and fluffy. The gravy is oh so delish. you will not be sorry. For a healthier alternative, husband gets the ACAI BOWL. There is such a nice variety of options, for breakfast and lunch, including a number of different OMELETS as well. They will even make a MEXICAN MOCHA... yummos. The only downside i must say is that depending on who makes it, it's either perfect or just ok. I wish i knew who was acting as barista the days it is perfect. make sure to get it with whipped cream :) That's the only reason it's not 5 stars - because sometimes (although rare), there are inconsistencies in my orders, both the drink and food. Overall though, this is a place we consistently go to.

Always a good place for breakfast or early lunch. The servers are always doing something productive and always make sure were taken care of. The wraps are amazing and simple Dear server Who Had to help the gentleman Saturday around 2. With the eggs Benedict and the pancakes. Seven of us came here for brunch at 10:00 on a Sunday morning. I ordered pancakes and Mexican hot chocolate (my favorite). PROS: *We were able to get a table for 7 right away on a Sunday morning * Parking was hassle-free * They were flexible with our choice of sides to accommodate our food preferences CONS: * The table was really sticky. * They said they ran out of milk and did not bring our orders of milk and Mexican hot chocolate for like half an hour. They said they had to go get some! * The pricing was pretty expensive, especially relative to the caliber of our food. * The service was spotty. Basically, I would not go out of my way to eat here, but would if I was in the area.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I went just now to have breakfast - the server asked if I'd like something to drink. I smiled, made eye contact and that I would love a hot cup of coffee, thank you. As soon as he put the cup down, I noticed two large pieces of dried salsa on the inside of the cup. Before he took three steps away, I said "oh, excuse me, could I please have a clean cup?" And I pointed out the dried salsa. He took my cup & came back moments later with THE SAME CUP - a little less coffee & it looked like he tried to RUB OFF the dried salsa! I immediately left the restaurant. I have enjoyed this restaurant greatly in the past but this was an eye-opener. Ugh. Hello food poisoning.

Save your money. Uncomfortable seating. Very hot and stuffy inside. Sloooooooooow service. Food the first time I came here was good that was about 4 years ago. Then I came in a few months ago and the food was awful. I hoped they just had a bad day and went back again NOPE it's just plain bad! Won't be coming back. Such a shame too ;(

For a local breakfast spot in Poway I thought this place was 'ehhhh' lol. We came here with a party of 9 to 10 girls for a bridal shower. The staff was very friendly and let us rearrange the tables for our event and it must have been a slow day because no one sat around us. Almost felt like a private room for us with a TV and a fireplace. I ordered the Salsa Verde Chilaquiles because I rarely see this item on the menu and I wanted to try something different. My dad LOVES this item and we specifically drive to National City/Chula Vista area when he craves this...I guess I had high expectations but this place didn't taste the same. Portions were huge but the salsa itself was bland to me and the black beans tasted like Rubio's black beans...I'll order off the standard American breakfast items next time. While we waited for everyone to arrive, I ordered a Bloody Mary ($5.50) and later ordered 2 bottles of champagne ($18/each) and made our own mimosas with a side of OJ. Bloody Mary was already pretty spicy, but I like to add a little tabasco too.

This is one of our favorite places to eat for breakfast. We normally get the scrambles or pancakes that are absolutely delicious. The staff is great and very nice. I have brought friends there for breakfast who have loved it and continue to go on a regular basis.

Place didn't seem that busy, empty bar and a few open tables. Hostess then told us that there was an hour wait due to the cooks being behind, hire more ppl get established .

We came here today expecting the usual good food and atmosphere. We showed up and there was a long wait it just looked different. We waited to be seated for about 15-20 min. Once we sat down it took about another 5-10 min to get a waiter to take our order. We then waited 20-30 min to get our food. I asked to speak with the manager/owner. Someone came over and told us he was at the store because they ran out of something. We also had my 3 year old son with us who proceeded to step on the ground under the table and got scrambled eggs all over his shoes from what was left on the floor. I've never been so disappointed with a restaurant that I used to love. Sucks we will not be going back. Read some recent reviews and realized it has been the trend lately. I hate saying this but don't waste your time going to this place.

One of my favorite spots to stop by when im in the san diego area. Their omelettes and waffles are my favorite. The portions are very generous. It tastes very fresh and like if it was home cooked. Overall, the quality of the food and service is excellent. I would recommend it to anyone around the area. Cheers :)

It was OK. The coffee was OK. Actually, taste like Panera bread - I had it better. Vogue health salad was OK. Actually, if I need to mix the dressing myself I might as well go to get some spring mix from grocery store and get it myself. I feel bad to critic because the servers are nice and the place is clean. But what is there we do in the restaurant if we don't receive good food and drinks?

To begin with, we asked for a high chair for my grandson, which was never brought. The table that we were seated was sticky and something had been spilled on the end against the window. My shoes kept hitting something under the table which turned out to be a fork and a small slice of watermelon. When we brought this to our server's attention, he moved us to another table and without cleaning it up, another couple was seated there. They asked for it to be cleaned while they waited, and it was. The eggs benedict was tasteless and dry but the poached eggs were done nicely. The breakfast potatoes, peppers and onions were done to a crisp and too crunchy to enjoy. The stuffed french toast was only cooked on the outside, so the raw egg and cream cheese on the inside was a soggy mess. The menu says that when you add a cup of fruit to the meal that $1.50 is added. But they charged the $2 side dish price. But we didn't complain about that. When we got our check, an order of granola was listed along with our 2 meals, that we never ordered or received. When I brought this to our server's attention he removed it. It is a good thing that my daughter actually checked the bill. We won't be going back.

Server was very nice. Food, not so much. It came out barely warm, "well-done" potatoes were soggy and had a weird taste.. Maybe bad oil? I sent them back for hot potatoes and got piping hot well done potatoes, but they still had that weird taste- I couldn't eat them. Also, the veggies in the scramble seemed barely cooked at all. Disappointing, especially since we rarely go out for breakfast.. Next time we do, it won't be here.

I went here for the first time today and after growing up in poway with not many fun breakfast places I was so excited to try a new breakfast place but instead of leaving excited to come back again I left extremely disappointed. It took more than 10 min just to get a cup of coffee and then my order came to me wrong not once but twice and my husbands order was wrong as well. They sent us toast that was as hard as a brick and When it was all said and done after sending my food back twice and deciding I didn't want anything not once did a manager come by to apologize for the issues and I don't even know if there was a manager there. Long story short I will never be back and I will never recommend it to a friend either.

The service was fine but the eggs were over done, and the beans and guacamole came from cans. Tasted like the chef put the least amount of prep required for the meal.

Decided to have brunch on a Saturday morning after our hike to Potato Chip Rock. We found the service to be phenomenal. We didn't have to wait a long time for the waiters to ask us for our drinks. Everything for the most part came in a timely manner- refills, checks, etc. However we noticed the couple seated next to us got asked about their drinks about 4 times by 4 different waiters, one after the other. If I were them I would've gotten a little annoyed. But, again, from my experience, the service was great and pretty much makes up for the food. (Just be aware that you might be repeatedly asked about orders.) The food was not all that great. It was okay. My date had ordered a Baja sandwich and wasn't fond of the way the shrimp was cooked. He found it to be bland; he actually picked out the shrimp and ate the sandwich without it. I was also seated in a quieter section (near the fireplace). But if I were to be seated in the dining room area, I would feel uncomfortable due to the noise and how close the tables are together.

Only because a star is needed for a review. Came here for Sunday breakfast with our family from out of town. After waiting an exceptionally long time for our food ( watching people who came in after us being served was quite annoying). We asked for the manager & our waitperson said he'll send him over. Half our food came 1/4 was cold. I asked the hostess for the manager & she informed me there was no manager in the restaurant now. She would be happy to relay a message to the manager. The order was delivered in increments & not hot! BTW I'm still waiting for my food which I guess I can forget about it!

So the atmosphere leaves a little to be desired. The tables are coated with something that causes any hot dish to kind of weld itself to the table a bit...which can make picking up your hot coffee a harrowing experience. When it's busy, the service can be slow and somewhat lacking; when they're not slammed, they're pretty efficient. The place doesn't seem to have very good air conditioning and it gets pretty warm inside. The food is great. They've never messed up a meal. And I've been there 3 times. Obviously, the little inconveniences didn't turn me off too bad. They also give you a ton of food, and the menu is expansive enough that every time I've left looking forward to the other things I want to try. I'll go back again, and it takes a pretty good grub to get me to repeat-visit. Oh, and did I mention...I've only ever had brunch here?

I don't understand the new trend with breakfast places. Why do people wait two hours just to eat brunch? Seriously, what the frick? Who does that? A ton of people seem to! It just doesn't make sense to me. I've been spending a lot of time in Poway and found a ton of restaurants in the area. Beach Grass is really delicious. Last time I was there, I ordered a tuna sandwich and a side salad with poppy seed dressing. Best dressing ever! And the salad wasn't just some ordinary spring mix that they scooped out from a Costco bin, they added bell peppers, carrots, and huge chunks of tomatoes. The service is great and there never seems to be a line. I like that they serve moderate portions and that the prices aren't outrageously expensive. It's just a nice family restaurant where a lot of families go. It's not some hipster brunch place where you order a $20 dish and end up with a ton of leftovers that become soggy over the course of the day. Don't get me wrong though, I love leftovers!

Tough to give a good review when the first thing we smelled when walked in the door was a nose assault smell of sewage. Fortunately the smell was fainter at the table otherwise we were leaving. But for the smell, the service was very good. My Eggs Florentine Benedict was good. It came with home fries, but I prefer hash browns. If you enjoy hot tea, Lipton is there only option. Personally, I would have preferred eating at home.

Stopped here for breakfast on our trip. Excellent food and service. Only gave four stars due to the wait time for our food. I had the green omlette. Perfect amount of each ingredient! One of the best I have ever had. Good atmosphere and friendly servers!

Do you like standing in the lobby without being acknowledged, served coffee with no spoon to stir it, served tea with no tea bag, cold food, every order wrong? Then you'll love this dump. Otherwise, stay away. Seriously. This place SUCKS!!

I seriously love this place. I hit it up whenever I'm in the neighborhood. I like to take my family here too when they're in town because there's something for everyone and quality ingredients. Feels like "real food" when it arrives at your table. It can get a smidgen loud and busy at times, but I'll overlook that. This is everything I look for in a breakfast/brunch spot: comfortable, friendly, and unpretentious with moderate prices and good food. I see they're open for dinner now... I haven't tried that menu out.

Best biscuits and gravy plate in town, with sausages, bacon and country potatoes. Love going here for breakfast. Have only had breakfast items here, so don't know about rest of menu, but if what I've had is anything to go by, it's bound to be delicious.

I work right around the corner and i've gone here a couple times. I've tried their wraps which are good but definetly overpriced. I have also tried the South of the Border Omlet, this was not good AT ALL. ZERO FLAVOR. LIKE ZIP ZILCH. NOTHING. i could do better and i paid $12!!! so not worth it all! do not eat here unless you like tasteless food.

Finally found a place around here that has a decent breakfast menu where you can get north park variety in the menu as well as quality ingredients. I tried green omelette and it was delicious. I can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu.

I really hate to give this place a bad rating but as I sit here and write this while just receiving my drink that took a more then a half hour to get and the fact we were not given any water at all and no one even came to our table for 30 mins then it took another 20 mins to get my drink. but this is not all the other night I came here with my 3 year old son and 12 year old daughter and service was OK at first but when the soda was flat and I asked for new for a root beer I was told they only had coke diet coke and sprite then I wanted some extra ranch and they were out of ranch and I was still going to tip the guy but they didn't have change for a 20 geez this was one of my favorite spots although I don't think I will go back

Absolutely regret coming here. - service was neglectful - smoked salmon omelette was was full of cream cheese & barely any salmon or capers - house potatoes were bland - Belgian waffle tasted like hard wheat bread - coffee was like brown water I will never come back again.

What a gem! I didn't think a place like this existed close to me. I have always been disappointed by that one breakfast brunch place in Carmel Mountain. This place is awesome, service is on point, the menu is relatively simple however the execution of the dishes is far beyond its competition in the area. I only wish there was a larger steak portion with my country fried steak order. The eggs Benedict's are well executed but I also noticed they lacked adobada or shredded beef options, no matter there is still enough on the menu to find something to fit your tastes. I ordered the country fried steak, and a side of a banana strawberry pancake. The steak was perfect, it wasn't over breaded like everywhere else and for once I actually enjoyed the country gravy (I hate country gravy since most places use too much flour and it solidifies or use too much salt). I just wish the cut was larger. For the pancake, well it was perfect as well, a bit of a "shell" on the outside with a fluffy MOIST inside. Not fluffy and dry like literally everywhere else. It's rare to find a place that can make pancakes that don't dry your mouth out like a desert and this place does it. From the outside it lacks in décor and could use a bit of freshening up. Inside however is quite the opposite. The atmosphere and furnishings are splendid. If this was placed as a beachside café it would be perfect! But alas, Poway is it's locale and they do a great job of making it feel relaxed and easy like a day on the beach. 5/5 with a few small issues that hopefully can be cleared up in the coming years! I look forward to coming back soon!

I can only speak for breakfast, but I was totally surprised. I was having work done at Big-O, and wandered over with the family. I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but our experience was awesome. My only regret was ordering too much food (large portions!). My sourdough toast was as thick as a 2X4, the acai boal was huge, everything tasted good, and was cooked well, the staff was on it, and friendly. What else could you as for? I would easily go again, even if I wasn't already nearby.

I SO wanted to give Beach Grass Cafe 5 Stars, but I just can't do it at this time. I will go with a STRONG 4 Stars for now, cuz even with a pretty major misstep, the place is pretty darn good. I don't mind forkin' over the cash for an expensive meal, but people, ah be a PO' MO' FO', so I just can't do that every day. But once in awhile, ya run across a place that could get away with charging MUCH more than they do (instead of the other way around, which is all too common), & it's always a WELCOME breath of fresh air. Beach Grass Cafe is just such a place. I had a "dine-in" Breakfast, which they serve until 3:00 PM (they're closed from 3P - 5P). I love anything served "Benedict" style, but I've never had LOBSTER BENEDICT before! And for $9.95? They could easily charge $15 for this plate, and I'd STILL feel I was getting a fair price. Perfectly seasoned (OK, I did salt & pepper a lil', but more out of habit than need), and perfectly cooked. Wonderfully poached eggs, whites fully solid, yolk rich and deliciously runny! Big LUMPS of Lobster. Country-style potatoes, nice and soft, but peppers & onions sautéed to a tender-crisp. And a coupla slices of Watermelon to top it off. There was a cup of Salsa on the side, but I didn't use it; it would be a SIN to put it on the Benedict, and the potatoes were too good to cover up with any other flavor. If my pictures don't make ya wanna order this for breakfast, I musta did sumpin' wrong! To take home, I chose a Pastrami & Swiss Sandwich, with Fennel Slaw and a pickle, and HERE is where they dropped the ball, at least a little. This was my first experience with Fennel in any way, shape, or form, and I have wanted to have the experience. It was as tasty as my pictures indicate, crisp and fresh. In a word: DELICIOUS! This is something I'll definitely order again from Beach Grass, and I'll probably whip up my own version at home, now that I know I like it. But then there was...the sandwich; and it looked soooo GOOD, too. I was expecting a wonderful experience from that Pastrami & Swiss sammie; just look at my pictures and you can see why; it's expertly prepared and BEAUTIFUL. But as terrific as it LOOKS, there was a major problem with the MEAT. It was extremely tough and almost gristly, not pleasant at all. The problem is, the sandwich still TASTED GREAT! It was well prepared, but for that shoe leather of a serving of Pastrami. Pastrami starts out as a really tough cut of meat, but between the pickling / curing and the smoking, you're SUPPOSED to wind up with something that you don't even need TEETH for; THAT'S how tender it can be. By way of comparison, my now-favorite sandwich shop in Escondido uses Pastrami that is to DIE for! I had one of their sandwiches the very next day, and besides being delicious, it bought home the point of how off-the-mark Beach Grass' Pastrami was. But all in all, I feel like if I'd ordered ANYTHING ELSE off their menu, it would've been just a awesome as that Lobster Benedict. I'm hoping that was an isolated BAD batch of Pastrami. That's why I'm stickin' to FOUR STARS; if anything else were not up to snuff, I'd be going much lower. But you can tell they do really strive for quality, so I'd recommend you check 'em out, but avoid the (you know). Bottom line: Beach Grass Cafe is a QUALITY RESTAURANT, with a clean environment, wonderful food, friendly service, & nice decor. And most importantly, GREAT FOOD at a GREAT PRICE. I can't stress enough that this place is the REVERSE of what you see all too often, in that the food is BETTER than the price would suggest. Once again, I have NBC 7 San Diego's "THE GOODS", to thank, for their "two-fer" voucher. You have to use the entire voucher value during one visit (in this case $10 outta my pocket, for $20 food), and it was just me today, so I ate there and took the other meal home, as mentioned. Between Beach Grass' VERY reasonable prices & the 1/2 benefit of voucher, I walked out paying the whopping sum of SIXTEEN CENTS! I kid you not (excluding an $8 tip on my part). Needless to say, if you live in San Diego County, there's no reason NOT to subscribe to The Goods, unless you just don't like to keep your money in YOUR pocket; for those of you who fall in the THAT category, send me a message and I'll send you some of my DEPOSIT SLIPS! I keed you NOT. But it's NOT the savings that means the most to me. I don't live here full-time, at least not yet, so I don't know my way around like I do in Austin. It's more the sheer knowledge of this place that matters more, & on more than one occasion, The Goods has been instrumental in providing that knowledge, along with the savings. I will GLADLY go back to Beach Grass & pay full price, especially since it's such a great VALUE. And there are several BGC's in the SD area (currently, none in Escondido, but maybe someday). Voucher or not, Beach Grass Cafe should be on your list; it's on MINE now! larrythediner .

We came here for breakfast. As we walked into the door it smelled like sewer. We sat down and there was dried toast from days ago in a window sill behind us. The waiter gavey daughter a water that had dried old milk at the bottom of it. My husband ordered two different breakfast entrees that they were out of. How can you serve breakfast and not have biscuits and gravy? Or corned beef hash. ??? The server was aloof to it all. Seemed not to care one bit. And it was freezing cold in there!

The food was well cooked and tasty. However, the service was terrible. There did not appear to be anyone in charge or to give guidance. The Hostess was lost in what to do, food kept going to the wrong table and parts of the order just never arrived.

Used to love coming here. But sad to say they apparently changed ownership and the experience was less than satisfactory. We had reservations for party of 13 that were made a week ago. Hostess had no clue. Took the staff awhile to figure out what to do. The quality of the food went downhill. Waited 45 minutes to get our food. Pancakes used to be large and fluffy. Now they are small and thin. Chillequilles were dry. They lost their liquor license so no Bloody Mary's! Guess I'll have to go to Solana Beach for the "Real" Beach Grass! I give 1 star bc the waiter at least smiled and refilled our coffee.

This place was better off as Cully's. Started off being seated and not getting menus for a solid 10 minutes. It's like hello people we have 5 small children if you want to experience an atomic meltdown x 5, sure by all means let us sit here forever while we drive away the rest of your customers. After asking 3 different people, we finally got menus. Did I mention it was not busy at all? Kids menu is fine- reasonably priced and has a variety of options. My daughters ordered the Funny Face Pancake (shaped like Mickey with a smiley face made out of raspberry puree) and the oatmeal with sliced bananas. The portions were very large for children; they could have easily shared one meal and still had leftovers. I chose the Salmon Benedict. The Hollandaise was gelatinous and not very flavorful. I didn't expect a blackened english muffin...just toasted so hmmm, but maybe they were trying to give it a Smoked Salmon flavor I suppose? Amazeballs: The fact that they have champagne. Bummer: Service, Food Taste & Quality, Kidhaters (Next time try to at least hide the eyerolls from the patrons to whom the kids belong to)

The food is the same as the Solana Beach Beach Grass; which means fresh and a with a little twist to normal breakfast options. It is housed in an old Mexican Restaurant's building. This is a very good option in the area.

ALWAYS packed on the weekends. We come here for Father's and Mother's Day, birthdays, etc for brunch. Great little place in Poway with decent portions and great variety. I've had the Blood Orange pancakes which were DELICIOUS! Moist and not too sweet. Also had the Santa Fe Omelette which was just ok. Our group tends to stick with their regular choices. Go for the omelettes and the Corned Beef hash. The Lox dish was good but way overpriced. The staff is awesome and always gets it right!!

came in today. i've never heard of beach grass cafe and haven't thought about driving thru poway in a long time. A few of my family members came to eat here so i drove thru poway to meet them here. It is a interesting place. I have to agree with one of the other reviews, the building exterior is outdated. The buildings around the restaurant haven't changed in a long time. They need a major renovation in that area of town. It was a nice set up when I walked in. Lots of places to sit. They have a early bird special from 4-6 so I ordered from that menu because the choices was only $9.95. I picked the spaghetti and meat sauce. The portion was huge for that price and it was delicious. I would like to come back again and try other items.

Wow - I wish I could speak with the Beach Grass Cafe owner personally, since I think they would be appalled if they personally experienced everything we did!! it would take much too long to detail it all here, but here's our highlights... My husband and I decided to give Beach Grass Cafe a try for happy hour after work today. Living just a few miles away, we had driven by many times, but never stopped in. I was a little apprehensive as we walked from our car... I looked in the windows and noticed that there wasn't a single customer in the place! "Keep an open mind!" I kept telling myself. As we walked through the doors (complete with tacky signs that read, "Restrooms are for paying customers only") I thought to myself, "Are we in TJ or Poway?" The hostess/waitress was on the phone. She stopped her conversation briefly enough to point us to the bar area. I told her it was our first time there. She seemed pleasant enough, but continued her conversation for several minutes while we waited alone in the bar area with no bartender and no customer in sight. First the good stuff - happy hour prices - cheap domestic beer and wine prices (no liquor). I had Coors Light, hubby had Budweiser, both seemed deliciously tap-fresh. Everything from here goes down hill fast... I ordered off the Happy Hour Menu - the personal pizza - Hawaiian style, hubby ordered off the Early Bird Special menu - the Sirloin steak meal. My pizza was a frozen shell, with Ragu style sauce, and some chunks of ham and pineapple. I ate the equivalent of 1/2 of a regular slice a Pizza Hut medium pizza, and although Pizza Hut is NOT good pizza, it was 100 times better than the pizza at Beach Grass!! I didn't really care, since I'm counting calories anyway! Hubby gave me a piece of his steak, which was undercooked in spots and over cooked in others. It was ok. The mashed potatoes were yummy, (I tried a couple bites!). THE WORST was the dessert! Which is kind of funny since we NEVER order dessert out, unless it's a special occasion. But we thought we'd take a chance on the Creme Brulee. We should have gone with our instincts - good Creme Brulee is never found at a Beachy Cafe - EVER! It shouldn't have been on the menu, but that's not our fault, they shouldn't have PUT IT ON THE MENU! For the first time in my adult life - I sent something back! I told the waitress to try it herself! It was terrible! Worse than terrible! She was quick to take the dessert off our bill, but nobody from the kitchen came out to apologize or cared an ounce about the terrible dessert they sent out to our table. I wish I could help the owners to turn this thing around, since I like the idea of a trendy/beachy/fun place for happy hour or dinner in Poway, but I don't see this place lasting more than another few months!

Food was decent. My hubby had corned beef hash and he liked it a lot. I had the chorizo omelet and it was just okay. Nothing especially fancy. The portions are really huge though and they give you very fresh, fresh fruit. A plus for that! Also the service is really nice and friendly and the food came in good time. A plus for that too!

I'm leaning more towards a low 3 star rating or high 2 star rating here. The food is okay so I guess 3 stars for the food but the service is sooooooo slow. It seems like they are catering to the very elderly here which sucks when you are trying to get a quick lunch. I have eaten here 3 times and every time has taken us more than an hour to eat. (maybe 50 minutes waiting for food & 10 minutes eating) So really it is the service that I have a problem with. Oh, the fries are cut so thick that they never seem to be cooked well enough either. I like crispy fries not these soggy things they give you.

My husband and I came here for a late breakfast on Sunday, and will definitely be coming back! The decor was cute and bright, and they have nice big booths as well as a little bar area with some tv's set apart from the main dining room. I ordered the original Belgian waffle with berries, and my husband ordered the turkey chorizo hash. Let me just say, that my waffle was absolutely perfect. It was a perfect golden brown color and nice and crisp on the outside, dusted with powdered sugar, while the inside was light and fluffy. It was at least 2 inches thick. The fresh berries were a perfect compliment. My husband was extremely satisfied with his hash, and it was served very attractively in a large bowl with swirled sauce decorations on the rim. The portions were nice and large, but not overwhelming like The Broken Yolk, and I'm sure that if I wasn't 8 1/2 months pregnant I would not have been able to finish my food. There are several other things on the menu that my husband I definitely want to try, so we will be back. I liked the food here more than the Original Pancake House in Poway, and we didn't have to wait 45 minutes for a table either. The service was very friendly and attentive, the prices reasonable, and Yelp even had a coupon for checking in! For breakfast, this place definitely wins.

I came here this past weekend and have to say i was shocked at how good it was. I am not a breakfast eater but my boyfriend is so he suggested we try this place out. If I go to breakfast I always get steak and eggs., but the lobster omelet caught my eye so I ordered it. It was sooooo good! Will be back for sure!

Sorry Yelpers, i just can't go back here. after my meal, i walked by the kitchen on the way to the bathroom and the kitchen door swung open and i don't know if it was psychological or physical, but i got sick.... the kitchen looked so dirty and food everywhere... the smell was like one from a garbage disposal. YUCK. the food i was was already OK at best, then paired with the end experience... 1 star take away: there are other breakfast spots, PASS on this

I was disappointed because I've been to the Beach Grass Cafe in Encinitas and loved it there. When I came here with the hubby because we found out they opened one in Poway and because we always get coupons in the mail for here, we thought to try it out for lunch. Walking in, it looks like an old diner they tried to revampish. As far as the food, it was average. Nothing to run back to. The hubby had the reuben which was flavorful but was really chewy and didn't break easily. I had the ahi salad sandwich which wasn't what I expected. It's almost criminal to cook ahi well done and then to mince it into a salad sandwich. Not a bad experience.. Just not what we were expecting considering their sister chain.

I've been wanting to come to the beach grass cafe, and so when I saw this one in Poway I made my mind I would eat there. What a disappointment! I had way higher expectation for this restaurant. But when I walked in, the ambiance was like a cave. But that's ok I thought, just wait for the food. Well.... this place may have been great for breakfast, but it isn't for lunch! I had a blue cheese burger - a greasy one, with fries - that looks and tastes awful... The meal was greasy I feel sick after. May be I ordered the wrong thing there. But I don't think I would come back here again... At least not for lunch.

Wow what a great find, Another hidden gem nestled in the suburbs of Poway. This is a new location here in addition to there Solana Beach and Encinitas spots that are well established. The Food is top notch ! I went with the asparagus omelet, which consisted of Asparagus , spinach, tomatoes, onion and feta cheese topped with fresh slices of avocado. It was an amazing breakfast served with really good home fries and toast. I could not finish it all , so the portions are big. My little man went with the kids bacon and egg plate, he enjoyed the thick sliced bacon and fruit. My brother had the eggs Benedict and was very pleased , he said it was excellent. His little girl got the smiley face pancakes and enjoyed them as well, even the coffee was excellent. The service was nothing short of perfect and we were always asked if we wanted more coffee by more than one person. They let me try a Beach Grass Cooler , its a juice blend they serve as well it was really good. I will for sure come back here again when I want a good breakfast this place will be on the the top of my list now. My only regret was that I did not bring my camera....but I will be back soon : )

I love this place for breakfast! The staff is 5 stars, very friendly and professional. I've been here 3 times so far and the food is delicious. I've had an omelet and the banana pecan pancakes. The food is made very quickly and is always so fresh! I also love that they have fresh flowers on each table. I plan on trying it for lunch soon and *hopefully* it will be just as good as breakfast. Seems like people are hard on this place, which is disappointing, especially if you're a Poway local. We need more places like this in Poway! This place is no Denny's, and believe me, THAT'S a compliment. People who love busy, loud, mediocre dining experiences, this place isn't for you. Honestly, I hope this place becomes more popular only because they deserve it. But the bitch in me hopes people stay away because it means a better dining experience for me. I'll be sure to update when I go for lunch....

I really like this place! Free wifi makes it a MUCH better alternative to Starbucks or McDonalds. I even came back by myself one morning as a treat. Prices are affordable, service is courteous and quick, and there are tons of yummy offerings on the menu. The banana/berry pancakes are thick and plate size. I ate one here, then took the other home and had it for breakfast the next day. Egg dishes come with tasty home fried potatoes, the biscuits are excellent, and so is the homemade jam.

9 of us went here for dinner Thursday night, and it was GOOD. We ordered 8 different entrees for dinner ( pistachio mahi mahi, shrimp, mussels, chicken picata, flat iron steak, tuna, fish taco and 2 people ordered the Kobe burgers, so we sampled just about everything) Everyone really liked their food, with the exception of the fish tacos, which she thought were just ok. We had calamari and artichoke dip for appetizers, which were great. and the bread was delicious ( tasted like rosemary, herb) didn't get a chance to try the wine, since they hadn't gotten their liquor license yet. we asked to sit in the back room ( since 9 woman can be LOUD), the room had an odd smell, not moldy, maybe just freshly painted, but i wouldn't sit back there again till it smelled better) also, there was too much of an echo ( i know the restaurant that was there previously, had a tapestry on the brick wall, probably to cut down on that echo) Service was just ok, (i had to find the waiter to ask for desserts.) overall, it was a nice evening, and like I said, the food was good. Looking forward to trying the breakfast.

Went to Beach Grass on Friday night for a dinner date. I had the New Zealand Green Lipped Mussels, my date had the Ahi salad. My mussels came with thin spaghetti and marinara, it was really good. Mussels were fresh as was the marinara. My date's Ahi salad was also good. The Ahi was seared with a peppercorn crust (I think) and cooked just right. Both dishes were plated very nicely. From the street the place looks sort of fast food-ish, the green neon circling the roof doesn't scream "fine dining experience within". However, on the inside it's sort of half diner - half fine dining and very comfortable. The service was very good...friendly and attentive but not in your face (after all we were on a date).
