BEST PIZZA IN TOWN! LOVE THIS PLACE!! -and I love their ranch lol The younger servers have way better customer service than the older servers tho. Price is a little expensive but this isn't your chain pizza experience. Plus the history on the walls and with the building itself makes for a very cool atmosphere. I always find new interesting things to read on The walls or look at. Never seen any ghosts tho or had any cool Erie stories to tell. lol

Great place to take the family or your date out for pizza. The staff are friendly and you have an amazing menu selection.

I love this place because it is so family friendly. I have two little girls and this is their favorite pizza place too. I like the outside seating, staff is friendly. Salads are huge, I get one every time I go. I like its location too, its nice to go walk downtown afterwards.

Good pizza. Toppings are plentiful and taste great. I would definitely eat here again when I'm in town. The wait staff were also great and courteous. The housekeeping needs some help. There were cob webs on every corner of the window where we sat. We ate the Frank no onions or bell peppers.

I really enjoyed this place. The pizza was delicious! I've had trouble finding good pizza in the Tri-valley and was happy when some friends suggested we meet them here. We had the cheesy-garlic bread, which was okay, my boyfriend got a side of meatballs (also okay - but I'm holding them up next to my Italian Grandmother's standard), and then there was the pizza. We got a large with pepperoni, mushrooms and black olives, and it was delicious! Seriously. I was very impressed. The server was a friendly kid and the atmosphere is pleasant - kitschy in all the right ways. I would definitely recommend, and bring others here for a decent pie.

Hello Rob & Suzanne Thanks for your reply, I have been in in there many time I was raised in pleasanton. I was a little shocked when watching this happen and really felt bad for the young girl (employee) and made a comment at the time. I guess anyone could have a bad day ! I should have brought it to your attention at the time of the incident. I've always like gay ninties so you'll probably see me again. Thanks Alan

Damn!!!! I never heard of this place until the other day and I'm always this area. I really like the dough and crust on the pizza. Also not sure if we came on a good night or what, but our waiter Jack was on point all night and super polite, in fact one of the best waiters we've had anywhere! Even though it's about a 20 minute drive from Pleasant Hill, we'll be back.

When a friend told me I had to try a Pizza Parlor called Gay Nineties in Pleasanton, I won't lie, my eyebrow raised up and I thought the name was a little odd. (I'm used to Pizza parlors being named Tony's or Joe's) But looking at the decor and photos around the restaurant I quickly realized its a nostalgic interest of earlier days. Supposedly the 1890's even though most of the photos and news clips I saw were World War ll and 1940's era. Really straight forward menu with all the classic offerings at a pizza joint. I really wanted to try the veal parm or one of the complete dinners but instead we settled on: Chef Salad: this was a combination of lettuce, tomato, cheese, turkey, ham, and olives. I liked the salad. It was a good starter prior to the pizza we ordered. Maybe 3.5 stars. All Meat Pizza: generous portions of meat filled pizza with abundant cheese and a nice flavored marinara sauce underneath, along with a excellent crust. Nothing I can knock on the pizza, it's top notch ingredients and flavor. 5 star pizza. Service was excellent from our waiter Roberto. He always kept our drinks filled, and he was very pleasant. Overall Gay Nineties is one of the best pizzas I've had in the Eastbay.

Oh boy was that tasty! We ordered a large Waynes World with chicken instead of tomatoes. My oh my was it delicious. The crust was a little soggy but all in all it was pretty good. When I went to go pick up the pizza the take out guy even asked if we wanted ranch, bonus! There was no extra charge for ranch, which was a delightful surprise! The decor was something straight out of a movie, maybe in the late 80's/early 90's pictures everywhere with the favorable aroma of pizza and happiness. There were quite a few families in there as well, which was appropriate, and the staff was seemingly upbeat and happy to be there. All in all, yes I will eat here again! I would recommend this to anyone in need for some fabulously concocted pizza in the Pleasanton area.

Sat on the patio. Service was terrible. Food is good though. Took almost an hour to get our food.

The ambience is so cute and the service is great. The boy that help us was very friendly and polite. We ordered a Suzane pizza, a vegetarian pizza, and it was a incredible experience. The pizza is fantastic! Outdoor space available.

Had lunch here today with my two small children. This was our first time here. They seemed quite quiet but for a ham and cheese pizza took at least half an hour to 40 minutes, which was a long time to wait for myself and two kids. None the less the pizza tastes great and we left happy enough. Just a bit disappointed on the speed or lack of.

Ok so this is a legendary Pleasanton establishment. Not just for the fact that the building is like a million years old, but the food is all fantastic. In fact I think the building was built in the 1890's or maybe 1790's, hence the name. Hella mysterious lore behind this place with the underground tunnels and amazing history with the building and town. This place is full of awesome servers and service. Garrett helped us this time and was on point not just with our table, but the whole front area. Using both hands to do different tasks at hand for people waiting for tables and people already seated. Homie deserves big tips. Also Connor (the manager) has on multiple occasions made light hearted conversation of something I've seen other places over react about. Makes everyone feel comfortable and does an excellent job at it. My moms got a salad here and if you've never had a gay nineties salad you haven't had a real salad before. They're so delicious you could probably die after and feel at peace knowing you had the best salad you've had in your life. But my pa and I split the Frank's special. If you walk into this place and order another pizza from the menu, I wouldn't blame you, but I'd most assuredly judge you. All the meats and veggies on this pie are tremendous. Usually I can throw down anywhere from 2-3 pieces, but this time I sacked up and had 4 pieces. Walked away more full than a tourist bus in the Livermore outlets. The walls are all historical with newspaper clippings and classic license plates, I mean I could go on forever about how much I love this place.

Probably my favorite pizza in this area hands down. Great salads too! A little expensive but you are paying for quality I guess. The restaurant seats a lot of people inside and out and has an old fashion diner feel.

Came here last night after not coming here for years since I moved away. SO PACKED for a weekday! We were lucky to get a table. The pizza is delicious. We got half and half with one side of Lee's and the other half make your own with Pesto sauce, eggplant, and canadian bacon-that was my favorite of the two. We got thin crust but it was still pretty thick to me. All in all, delicious. Parking is easy downtown as there are several spots on the street.

Had something different today and ordered the chicken breast sandwich that came with a side salad. 10bucks plus tax wasn't to bad. And it was an actual chicken breast. Place is deffinetly a local hot spot. While I was there I had randomly seen a past friend of mine and he had ordered just a house salad. Looked pretty good. I usually get the pizza which is made of fresh cut produce and the meats are awesome. Also they fresh brew they're tea! Service is as good as this review!

Casual Pizza place in downtown Pleasanton. This place is bigger than it looks. Lots of booths inside and ample patio seating in the back that is covered and they have heat lamps. They had a wide selection of pizza and toppings as well as hot sandwiches and salads. Fun place. Can be on the loud side, great service. We found street parking with no problems.

The waiter was very nice and attentive, and the zucchini sticks were delicious with a crispy (not greasy) breading and a slight crunch left to the zucchini. Unfortunately the pizza was a hot mess, literally. The crust was undercooked and super soggy. Everything - cheese and toppings - slid right off. Plus, it was pricey for such a mediocre pie. The pasta wasn't much better. Too bad since the place itself was cute and casual, and the staff seems great.

I grew up with gay nineties and always bring people visiting Pleasanton. I always get a large pepperoni pizza (call me old fashioned). A few things to keep in mind, they do make the pizzas fresh so it will take a little time. It is also a smaller, independent operation so the prices are a little more than your average chain pizza place. Personally it is completely worth it. Whether eating at the restaurant or taking home, I always like to visit gay nineties and grab a pizza when I am in town.

Yum yum give me some. Put the pizza in my tum tum. Summary of my night: The city of Pleasanton is cracking down even harder on underage drinking, preventing us from bringing our little ones into the beer garden during First Wednesday. Drinking a beer alone while my husband stands on the other side of the fence with our kids didn't sound like a good time to me, so we decided to get beer and pizza at Gay Nineties. The back patio was packed and the vibes were good. Besides their awesome Frank's Special pizza, we also ordered zucchini sticks which were super yummy and plentiful. Side note: Two years ago, their version of prego pizza put me into labor the very next morning!

Went late at night-- and service was fast as there were few people in the joint. Pricey,$35, but the pizza was good, and a large was consumed by a family of four, with two pieces each. Thicker crust, fresh toppings. It it probably worth it if spending time relaxing downtown. For the price, would not take out.

I had to give them 1 star because I can't give them none. We ordered a medium pizza, two salads and some ice tea. I'm not sure about the tea, it sort of looked brown and almost tasted like tea but really didn't have any taste until I squeezed in the lemon and put in some sugar. The rougford dressing was watered down to a consistency of milk. The pizza, well, it was a medium but I've had more cheese on a cheese burger at Mc Donalds. And the crust was like 3/4 to an 1'' thick which was weird. It had to have been the thickest pizza crust I have ever seen. We asked for extra garlic but they must have put it on some else's pizza cause there was barely even a hint of garlic. The best part about Gay 90s pizza was leaving. I've heard about cutting corners to save money but this was ridiculous. I can remember when this establishment was the best place around. Lot's of cheese on the pizza, loads of toppings, thick tasty dressing and sun tea.

I absolutely love this place! Pizza is great... sauce is delicious! We went yesterday and I had ordered before hand for pickup a large pizza, well the person on the phone misunderstood and thought I had said small. When we went to pick it up we told the guy that we had ordered a large. He gave us the small that was already done for free and ordered a large for us and rushed the order, we waited about 10 minutes for it. Great customer service!

We've only been here twice, but it is the best traditional pizza we've tried in the Bay Area. We've had the Frank's special both times, yum! Good service, wish they were in Livermore, we'd probably be there every week!

Great pizza and lasagna WITH FULL BAR!! Best Pizza ever! I love Gay Nineties! This was my first time my wife and I tried this place and we are huge fans now. (Move over Zachary's pizza) I love pizza and Gay Nineties offers a ton of fabulous options with fresh ingredients and the crust to die for! Staff was friendly and fun will be back if I am every visiting the Pleasanton area again.

2 words - NO THANKS! The pizza always looks and smells better than it tastes. It is always very cheesy but soggy as well, not worth the trade off. The old waitress was so rude... She slammed our drinks down on the table when she brought them back even worse we had to get up to get our own drinks b/c she never came back. Overall bad experience so if you're looking for shi!!y pizza and bad service than this is place for you.

The Place: The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door was that the restaurant gave me a claustrophobic feeling. There's a sign on the first table near the door that says "Please Seat Yourself". As I walked to the back of the room, it opens up into a bigger area. It even has a nice sitting area outside with shade. The place is decorated with old street signs and just looks like a quaint place. As I sat down in the booth, I felt like a kid who had to peer up above the table to see the food. No, the table wasn't that tall, but it made me feel especially short. It didn't help that the tall pizza stand blocked my vision of the person sitting across from me. I guess they didn't put a sign up that this restaurant only seats TALL people comfortably. The Service: The service is just extremely slow in the afternoon. Maybe they're short on staff, but they really aren't the type of restaurant that has someone come by your table every 5 minutes asking you whether you need anything. The Pizza: I got half Maui Special and half Wayne's World on a medium sized pizza. Maui Special: Ham and Pineapples Wayne's World: Pesto, Garlic, Onions, Olives, Feta Cheese, Tomatoes I gotta say I still think about Wayne's World sometimes. Pesto, garlic, & tomatoes on a golden crust baked to perfection with cheese stringing from every bite. I really like their crust, it's not too thin, and it wasn't too bready. BTW, a medium pizza fills 3 hungry hippos. It's too much for two people. I'd come again, even if it makes me feel shorter than I already am.

Loved the ambiance -- pub, diner and restaurant in one. For a pizza place, their pasta was kick-ass. Tomato sauce on the pizza was a little runny, so the cheese and toppings didn't really stick to the dough. 1 star off for that. In hindsight, I should have probably asked for the pizza to be well-done. I have some leftovers and if a pizza doesnt taste good the next day, it aint a good 'un. The other star is pending the results of the leftovers test. More tomorrow morning

I was wondering if you could give a place 4 1/2 stars, but heck!! this place is worth 5 Stars !!! Very tasty pizza from someone who has been eating pizza for many many years !!! Kids love it here too !! Love taking the extra crust and slathering it with butter for an extra treat !!!

  • Jason R.

Really like this pizza place. Only give it 4 stars because it is a little pricey and there are no discounts like other Pizza joints. The food and service is great. I love their ranch. It is just a little sweet. Nothing beats a Franks special dipped in ranch!

Co worker T: "Gay Nineties, yeah good!!!" Me: "T, are you coming out to me or something?" Co worker T: "No, gay nineties.. you know...??" Me: "Yeah I know, you were Gay in the Nineties but now are married to your man! Sooo what does that..." Co Worker T: "No GAY NINETIES THE PIZZA PLACE!!!" Me: "LMFAO -- Wuuuuuuuut???" So we embarked on the journey to downtown Pleasanton to visit this location. On the way here T is telling me about all the memories of this place, how she took her kids here after soccer and so forth. What a funny name but wow, really great pizza!!! Its one of those places you have to try in downtown Pleasanton.

  • Jeff T.

The low rating from me is because we ended up waiting around 40-45 minutes for one medium pizza. Apparently there was a screw-up in the kitchen. I don't know if that means our pizza was burnt, dropped on the floor or given to someone else, I just know that people who came in after us were eating long before we were. One of the guys eventually brought over some bread for us, but taking that long to cook a pizza when there were less than 10 other groups there at the time is a little ridiculous. But what made our experience really ridiculous was that our waitress came by just once during that time to check our drinks (which were empty) and kept us waiting to pay our bill so long (10+ minutes with my credit card sitting in the little tray on our table) that I just went and paid at the cash register. Frustrating. The pizza itself was tasty, but the crust was undercooked (probably because they rushed it to us after the first one failed). Bottom line... OK pizza with potential, but with such poor service we'll find another place.

The true American Pizza, fuh-get-about your I-talian pizza's or you're CPK's, this place just makes a great pizza. Not tricks, no gimmick, just some great homemade pies and entrees. This was a staple for anyone who lives in the 3 mile radius of this place. Which includes downtown, 2 high schools, a middle school and thousands of homes. I ate here when I first moved to Pleasanton back in the 80's and I just ate there maybe 2 months ago and I still love it. You can hang out and drink a beer or grab and go. Friendly people, great service, great pizza. Enjoy.

This place is something America has sadly moved away from, an old fashioned pizza parlor!! I went in last week to pick up a pizza to take home, and I ended up staying to dine in. The atmoshere was fantastic and the pizza was better!! What a treat....I will be back!

  • Ana Marie L.

It's simple: This place has the BEST Pizza! Its setup like an old school pizza parlor - had lots of character! The cheese on their pizza is amazingly cheezy and stringy!! And don't get me wrong, the crust is great too! You can sit inside in a booth or at the bar, OR outside on the deck. My fam and I usually come here on Saturdays right when they open at 11am and we are typically the only ones there =) My niece gets excited because they have "quarter" machines that now cost $1, that pop out little toys. They also have really goood garlice cheese bread! Oh man, if I lived in Pleasanton.. I would so get pizza from them only!

tonight was a very rough night at gay nineties and it was also rough when i got home with my pizza. i have loved this place since i was a kid and it has always been my favorite but i really feel that straw hat pizza is my new favorite and always great. it was a rough night at gay nineties because the computers were down and it was a busy friday night. i have been in the restaurant business for so many years and i know how it is when the systems crash but the kitchen blew it big time. all orders had to be hand written and i was told it would be ready in 25 minutes so 30 minutes later i was there. there were so many people there and it was packed. the to-go line was busy and many were waiting to place an order and pick up orders. my pizza was ready when i got to the line but no garlic bread. the woman went back into the kitchen and checked and told me it would be right out. i paid for my order with no problem since i know how these things go. after a couple of minutes she told me the garlic bread just went into the oven and would be out shortly. she offered my my money back but i told her i would wait for it and it was cool. after about 10 minutes i finally had my complete order and i was out the door and headed home. when i got home we opened up the pizza to find barely any cheese at all when we picked our slices. i admit i ordered lite cheese but this was un called for. i get lite cheese most of the times i order pizza and there is still a decent amount of cheese but this had to be less than a sprinkle of cheese. you could see nothing but sauce and the toppings fell off it was so bad. i was so disappointed that my favorite place for so many years could do this but then again it has been getting bad over the years in the kitchen. i sure hope they can get back to the great things of the past but the current kitchen staff really sucks. i think they need some italian americans in there because this place isn't making tacos and burritos.

Best Pizza ever! I love Gay Nineties! I've been coming here for years and have NEVER been disappointed! I'm a huge pizza connoisseur and Gay Nineties offers a ton of fabulous options! My personal favorite is Wayne's World. I've never tried any of their other food options, but I've had many different pizzas. Their list of pizzas is great, but if you don't see something you like there is a huge list of toppings to create your own pizza. They offer a few beers on tap and a full bar if you're interested!

  • Kailey M.

I honestly thought this place was a gay bar, so I hadn't even thought about going there until my friend informed me that I was extremely and hilariously incorrect. I came here with my friend, Angela (See review below), and had a really, really good time. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive and helpful, and the garlic bread is melt-in-your-mouth, amazingly, BOMB. I am just not a fan of the pizza, which sucks, cause I love pizza. There is just something weird about the cheese they use or something off about the taste. It definitely wouldn't stop me from coming back, but I thought I would throw it out there. If you're looking for the pizza, just know that it tastes a little bit different than normal.

  • C. S.

I had initially gone to this restaurant back in the 1960's as a small child because it was the only pizza place in town. I decided to return and visit one of my old stomping grounds because of fond memories. Well, they have been shattered. I can't believe that a food establishment allows its employees to wear sandals, especially the flip-flop variety, and I have NEVER seen a place start sweeping and cleaning while patrons are inside eating. This is gross, both things. I would like to return so that I can replace this horrible memory. But the food was good, that is, if you can get past fruit flies hovering over your dish.

  • KevMo G.

They really did make a fan out of me. The pizza is cheesy and LOADED with toppings. Every time someone mentions "pizza": my place of choice is either this place, or Porky's in San Leandro. YUMMMM Quick tip: If you're ordering beer, you're better off getting a half pitcher or full pitcher, as their beer mug is more like an over-sized tea cup...

    (4)
  • Craig I.

Nice, friendly staff. The space is HUGE but feels really cramped because they shove a long column of tables in between the bar and another set of tables. And that's just in the entry, as there are 2 other seemingly larger rooms as well. The pizza was good -- not great. It was a bit doughy, and there was nothing crisp on the top, so it wasn't as cooked as I normally like it. It will be a lot better after a night in the 'fridge and several minutes in the toaster oven. :-) I'd go back with others if they wanted to go, but I'd rather go other places for pizza.

    (3)
  • Paul P.

First things first. This place is has way too many tables. You feel cramped. The wait staff kept bumping into us at our table never said excuse me or sorry. I found this to be extreamly rude. The pizza was okay. The sauce had no flavor. The cheese was ordinary. The best part was the crust. We ordered two medium pizzas one of which was just cheese. The other had chicken and artichoke. The bill was 55.00 before the tip. I do not plan on going back.

  • Amy S.

My favorite part about this place? I love the atmosphere. I came here before a roller derby match at the Alameda County Fairgrounds and it was packed with aficionados and families. The service was excellent, but I found the food to be a little bland. Keep in mind, I did order the pasta primavera; I should have ordered the pizza, which I hear is excellent. Their minestrone soup, on the other hand, was top-notch - lots of potatoes and veggies in a flavorful broth. Overall, you should come here with friends, order some pizza, and don't miss the minestrone soup and garlic bread.

Whenever we want pizza in Pleasanton, this is always our first choice. Zachary's might have the best tomatoes, but Gay 90s has the best crust to be found anywhere. Staff is extremely friendly. The pizza is so good that we always call in our order ahead of time so that when we arrive, we don't have to wait. I'm told their other entrees are good as well, with good sized portions. But I won't dare have anything but the pizza because it's so damn good.

  • Shereen R.

I love pizza and I love local spots. So you'd think that I'd have a higher opinion of this place. Sadly, the overall experience wasn't all that great. But, I give them credit for being a neighborhood joint. On our last visit, we had the Lee's Special - chicken, artichoke hearts, feta cheese and fresh tomatoes. I know, it sounds good, doesn't it? It was good, but spending $20 for an a-ok pizza just doesn't fly with me. The ingredients were good, but the crust wasn't anything special. We also got an order of buffalo wings. They were tasty, but as my sweetie says, "We could make that at home"... and better. The wait staff was uber-friendly. But service was sloooooow. I know it takes time to bake a pizza, but really! Atmosphere is also ok. The inside is a bit dark, so sit outside if you can score a table. This place will satisfy your pizza-craving but it won't make you a follower.

The restaurant name is in reference to the Gay 1890's and the decor in the front room does a great job of giving you that old timey feeling. I normally sit in the outdoor patio with the heat lamps and the nice atmosphere. Pizza pies are great. Have not tried anything else except their selection of fine beers. The front bar area looks like a nice place to hang out, eat pizza, drink beer and socialize. The back area and outdoor area are more family oriented. Nice clean place, easy parking, great pizza pies.

  • Tasha D.

Gay 90's has the best pizza in the world. Yes, it's more expensive than a chain, but it's a one-off, gorgeous little independent pizza place with absolutely delicious pizza, great root beer, excellent draft beer, and the cutest decorations all from around the 1950's. The building's been in Pleasanton forever -- as has Gay 90's. You know what, people, it's not referring to the 1990's, it's referring to the 1890's, which were actually called the GAY 90's. And you know what? GAY 90's 4EVA! I love this place. :) Also, Gay 90's is one of the places on Pleasanton's Main Street that is supposed to be haunted. I think it used to be a brothel and the ghosts of prostitutes are supposed to hang out there. Awesome!!

This place is pretty average - nothing too crazy, nothing too amazing or bad. Honestly, there's nothing much more to say. I'd probably just pay half and buy Red Baron's frozen deep dish pizza.

Stopped in for lunch yesterday and I loved it. Nice kick back atmosphere. I ordered a chef salad and it was a little on the pricey side but once i started eating it... it seemed to never end. Def worth the money. The lady who helped me was so wonderful and friendly. Great place to have lunch.

I'm a pizza snob. My second job was a pizza maker, so I'm very particular with my pizza. I remember when I was 16 years old, putting the ingredients meticulously and methodically, spreading the sauce first all over the dough in a circular motion, topped it generously with cheese, garnish it with meat, and of course evenly spreading out the vegetables. Obviously, not all of the pizzas I've made are the same. Some people's requests were so strange... "Combo pizza with no cheese!" (WTF?). "Extra cheese on our pizza but hold the sauce!" (Umm, ok). "Hawaiian Pizza with anchovies!" (What a gross combination). "Can you combine the marinara and pesto sauce?" Uh, sure, it's your pizza and your palate! " I've heard good things about this place, but honestly, I've deterred for one dumb reason: The name. Why would you name your pizza place Gay Nineties? I need to figure out the logistics to the name of this establishment. With my surprise, I was highly impressed! My group ordered 3 large pizzas, one was Vegetarian which was filled with a lot of veggie goodies especially artichokes (MMMMM!!!), sausage, pepperoni, and olives, which wasn't too salty for my taste, and finally a combination pizza. I love their crust and I prefer a thick crust over thin ones. It was crispy on the outside, but soft and hot on the inside. Yum. I can't wait to go back here. The only drawback, totally not their fault, is since I gave up ranch for Lent, I wasn't able to enjoy dipping my pizza and crust with the ranch. 40 days without ranch....Am I going to SURVIVE?! I'll come back here when Lent is over so I can REALLY enjoy my pizza: By smothering it with Ranch! :-)

Food was great, service was HORRIBLE. The food saved this review from being one star. I suggested this place to my husband, as he's never been there before and I used to eat here a lot about a decade ago so we made the trek out from Brentwood. I figured, it's worth the drive, right? Somewhat. We were seated right away (it was far from busy), our drink and food orders were taken in a timely manner. But once our food arrived we became invisible. The entire front section became invisible, apparently, because I almost felt compelled to sit the party of four that walked in and waited ten minutes for someone to seat them! Of course, as soon as they walked out, an employee walked in. We did not get drink refills, nobody asked if we liked our food (mine was ok), and we had to wait forever to get boxes for our leftovers. Meanwhile, we watched the servers horse around, talk a LOT, and go on and on about how much tip money they made the week before. Once we got our to-go boxes, we ended up building a sky scraper out of our plates to get someone to bus our table. I had ordered a dinner, which included dessert...which our server didn't ask about. She just brought us the check and I had to REMIND her. After she brought the dessert, suddenly she was coming by every few minutes to see if we had paid yet. I might go back, but it's going to be a while before I do.

Love the pizza and meal "to go" option (they pack up EVERYTHING, so you can have a complete meal at home). We had take out the other day, including an order of three meatballs. Didn't eat all the meatballs and put them in the fridge. A week later, meatballs still there so I did what people do (no, didn't live dangerously by eating them) - put them down the garbage disposal. OMG! Two MASSIVE LINKS OF SOME SWARTHY COOK'S BRACELET WAS IN THE BALL!. Gross, gross, gross. I don't think I can ever eat here again.

Gay Nineties is a downtown Pleasanton staple, however it has eluded me for years. I was trying to figure out the last time I was here and it had to be at a high school graduation party back in 1999. Now that I have dated myself, lets get to the review of the pizza. First things first, this place is expensive. I ordered a large sausage and bell pepper pizza to go and it came out to $26. Yikes. Once I got passed the sticker shock, I dove into the pizza. The pie was really thick with a ton of fresh toppings. Pretty much the opposite of Amici's in Dublin. The flavor of pizza was excellent and it was not too greasy. Overall, I was very satisfied with Gay Nineties. Next time I will come and sit in their patio and eat the pizza there.

We came here for lunch today hoping to sit outside, but they were not seating on the patio. Still, we had a very good lunch--pizza and side salads. The pizza is your basic thin crust pie, but the ingredients seem really fresh to me. I liked this one better than the one I ordered to go a couple of weeks ago. The crust on that one was soggy, which seems to be caused by traveling in the box since the one we had in the restaurant today was fine. Service was outstanding. Our waitress was juggling five or six tables, tow of them large parties, but still kept our water and tea filled and brought our check promptly. Price is the only drawback--lunch for three with tip was $50, but for Main Street in Pleasanton that's not out of line. We'll be back.

I would have given this place five stars, it used to have the best pizza in town but they recently started making their pizza differently and it sucks now. Update: they changed back! The pizza is now fantastic!

I used to come here when I worked in the area. Best Cobb Salad and their pizza ain't bad. The pizza is super generous with the ingredients, tastes pretty fresh but a bit pricey. Good spot to gather people to eat and hang out. The interior is a bit darkish, almost like a low lit cabin. So if you're afraid of the dark don't come here.

I love this place! I actually celebrated my birthday with friends and family in July on the outside deck. The weather was perfect and the pizza and beer were amazing. I love getting the Pepperoni, Jalapenos and Pineapple! My favorite, don't knock it till you try it! I tell everyone about this place. I really like the decor and the feeling of the restaurant. It's full of history, just check out the website and it tells you the cool story behind the building.

I was very upset about the last pizza I had here! We always considered this establishment to be top of the line, however my franks special pizza had very little toppings and was even missing one of the key ingredients and cost me 30 dollars I have since found another place in Pleasanton to take my business.

Hola. Just visited here last Wednesday night when first Wednesday was going on in downtown Pleasanton. It was PACKED. I mean we had to wait 30 minutes to sit but oh well...had nothing else to do. They have a small bar with a couple drafts available. Nothing to write home about. The pizza is good. Thick crust, greasy, cheesy, yummo. The toppings are fresh and the meat is tasty. The prices are not that bad for the Ptown area. PS They have a large outdoor seating area in the back that is nice in the summer.

  • Jonathan L.

Terrible name, phenomenal pizza. This is no typical pizza place, they use super fresh cheese, bread and veggies. The taste is absolutely a 10 out of 10. The cost of a pizza will run you between 12 and 30 bucks, but the 30 dollar version will feed 3, no problem. The service is very friendly, but don't expect a Michelin rated restaurant experience, just nice people who are friendly and try their best to keep you happy. The outdoor areas get very warm in the summer (complete with flies), so I'd recommend the indoor area for the most part. Overall, this is a very good pizza place, probably the best within 20 miles of Pleasantville, I mean Pleasanton.

Easily a 4-star place. Our waitress was great, food was DELICIOUS, and over all just had a nice experience. It was my first time there, and was I impressed... ..up until about 15 minutes before we left. An older male with a mustache, who I assume works there since he walked into the kitchen, was in the front of the restaurant (we were in the back part) and he started CURSING about his wife. LOUDLY. Apparently, she won't let him buy one g-damn thing, even though it's his f-ing money. Since he f-ing works all the time and pays the f-ing mortgage. And evidently, he is fed up after 10 years! Now, I'm not gonna lie, we thought it was really funny to listen to because of how angry he was. However, that was before we knew he worked there. I can not even begin to imagine yelling such things at my work. Other than that (and the price), it was really a nice place. I would imagine on the weekend it would be busy. We were literally the only ones in there for about 30 minutes. By the way, I tried to bribe my fiance to ask him how his wife was doing on the way out, but he didn't bite ;)

Mixed review, Service was good. We eat outside on the patio and were well taken care of. Regarding the food. The garlic bread was inedible, They smother it with paprika and some other red gunk and where is the Garlic? Stay away from that. The Pizza is mostly dough and my Veal Parmesan was pretty bland. BUT my wife ordered the Spinach salad and it was "A BIG SALAD" So go for the Salad but stay away from the bread

This is hands down my favorite place to eat pizza. The pizza is amazing, the wings are great, the anti-pasta platter (my wife's favorite) is a great start and the beer is always cold. Not only that, the atmosphere is very warm and inviting and great for a Saturday night with some friends. In the summer you can eat outside on the patio. After dinner take a stroll down main street in Pleasanton. Guaranteed to be a great night!

Great, original pizzas. There are just the 2 of us and they are always wiling to split the pizza in halves so each gets what they want. Good table service with frequent drink refills. Only complaint is how loud it can get in there when they are busy.

First - I didn't try the pizza. We wondered in one night, not feeling like pizza rather other dishes: lasagne and something else, forgot what it was because it didn't resemble anything else I have ever seen so the name doesn't matter. The waitress as she served the food, half apologized saying "people really like our pizzas". After tasting the weird cooking attempts we decided that we will rather stick with the pizza places we know - regardless if other people like their pizza. Such lack of care in food preparation doesn't make me think they put much care into their pizza as well. I guess I will never know.. i doubt I am losing much though...

This is the best pizza place I have ever been to. The crust is thick and has the perfect texture. Be prepared to gain about 5 pounds each time you eat there because this is definitely not diet food. They use a ton of delicious real cheese. This is the type of cheesy pizza that you have to eat with a fork because all of the topping will fall off if you try to pick it up. I've been coming here for more than 20 years and have never had a bad pizza. The pepperoni and olive is my favorite. I've heard their salads are really good also. As to the comments about it being expensive- it's really not that bad. Of course it costs more than cheap chain restaurant pizza but, if you think about it, they are using more expensive "real" ingredients. So it should cost a little more, and the taste is completely worth it.

I have been going to Gay Nineties since the late '60's - I remember the old times of eating Pizza and Beer there. Today's experience was completely awful! We sat down for lunch around 1:00p and placed our order (two of their small pizzas and a chicken sandwich). 4 parties showed up between 10-40 minutes later - we had still not received our food yet. Over an hour of waiting and the 4 parties that were seated after we had already ordered were receiving their pizzas - WE HAD NOT RECEIVED OUR PIZZA YET! How does that work? Someone sits down 30 minutes after you place your order and they get their food first. After waiting an hour and fifteen minutes - our food finally came and we politely asked for it to go instead. Our experience today ruined the last 40+ years and I will not be going there any longer. This business has obviously gone down hill and has lost our patronage for good. I'm not basing this off of just one experience - but this was the last straw after a couple of other less than satisfactory experiences. ONLY GO IF YOU LIKE SITTING AND WAITING AND ENJOY A LESS THAN SATISFACTORY EXPERIENCE.

Went there after the Christmas parade and it was packed! They sat us by the door and it was really cold so we asked to move and they had no hesitation and totally understood! Moved to a new spot ordered the cheese garlic bread, large pizza with half franks special and half sausage only. Asked to take off bell peppers and salami and they had no problem making it how we wanted. Pizza was delicious! Haven't found a good pizza place in the area and this will be my new spot. The cheese garlic bread is a greasy gooey garlic bread and is delicious! I'm not a health nut jut like good flavors! Also we never had an empty cup also a big plus for me :) I'll be back to try new toppings

I have been eating here my whole life. The pizza is awsome. I really like how the sauce actually tastes like it is made out of tomatoes. I have two reasons for not giving it five stars: the prices are a little high and the service often lacks. Still, if you are looking for good pizza in P-town, go here.

I don't usually find myself out this way, but my friends and I ended up here for dinner last weekend after visiting Indian Joe Caves. In brief, I thought the food and the service was fantastic. I looooove pizza and this place did not disappoint. We had half Wayne's World and have Susanne's veggie pizza, and it was absolutely scrumptious - fresh vegetables, delicious crust. The service was friendly and attentive. It's perhaps my favorite pizza in the Bay area (is it still the Bay area?), but I can't go as high as 5 stars until I make it back here.

Just moved here from NY and heard that this place was very cool. Walked in and loved the decor, really cool but service was awful. Bf and I sat at the bar on saturday afternoon and ordered a small pizza to go. After waiting almost an hour we received our very expensive($14), tiny, tiny pizza(about the size of one large slice). There were about three customers so I have no idea want took so long. I could have made the pizza mini myself with my eyes closed in the five minutes. Not impressed.

Kind of a weird name for a pizza place, but the food isn't half bad. There is plenty of outdoor seating. We ordered some zucchini sticks to start off with. It came with some celery and carrot sticks with ranch dressing for dipping. We asked for some extra ranch dressing, but it never came out until our pizza was ready. The zucchini sticks were lightly battered and tasted pretty good. We ordered a medium combination pizza and it was plenty for 4 people. It was loaded with olives and had plenty of meat and cheese on there, green bell peppers, ham, pepperoni and the sausage was the size of mini meat balls. The pizza is quite messy to eat and the dough itself under the toppings was pretty thin. I did like the thick crust though. It was like eating a bread stick with a bit of crunch.

Home of the $35.00 pizza. It is good, but really way too much money to pay for pizza. The staff is nice, the management is unhelpful when it comes to over pricing. I may go here again, but just know before hand, it is the most over priced Pizza I have ever had, and I have had pizza all over the world.

This is the best pizza place in P-town! The thick crust is to die for (the ghosts that haunt this place would agree with me!) I've ordered many things off their menu and have never been disappointed. It's a little pricey, but totally worth it.

My wife and I love ordering Pizza for take out from here. It's a little bit more than going to those chain places, but why go there when you have this? We usually get the combo or vegetarian pies, both are loaded with toppings, but thanks to a hefty crust, they don't fall off, or get soggy. Friendly staff, quick service, but with a little bit of a wait for orders, you know nothing has been pre-made. Don't forget your side of ranch.

My girlfriend and I come here during the warmer weather to dine out on the patio and enjoy a pitcher of beer and a pizza. Their beer selection is good, and at around $14 a pitcher it's affordable, and their pizza is truly VERY tasty and fresh. The patio is just plain fun... What can else can I say? You have your own space, yet the people around you are typically fun and interactive. The inside has a cute atmosphere, but we mainly come here for the outdoors (patio) experience. While the food and beer is excellent, I gave this place 3 stars instead of 4 because I think their pricing is a bit high. Last time we went there we got our normal pitcher of beer, and a medium pizza that had 1/2 pepperoni and garlic, and 1/2 ham and pineapple... I was disappointed when the bill came because they evidentally charge for a full topping for a 1/2 order. (I.e. the 2 toppings on each side got charged as a 4 topping pizza). I think that is a little unreasonable, but that won't really stop me from coming back. I don't mind paying more for a good pizza, but I think they charge just a little too much. Great experience, and great food though!

Tried this place tonight for the 1st time. My hubby had 2 bowls of clam chowder and Jumbalaya and I had a salad and veal parmesan with pasta. We asked for extra garlic bread and OMG.....The waiter brought us 3 big baskets full! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The waiter even offered my husband an extra bowl of clam chowder to go! Loved the atmosphere and the music was perfect....70's rock (my favorite). We will definitely go back for more.

We had a large pizza, spit in half between the vegetarian and the BBQ Chicken. When considering pizza places, it is always important to know if it is a thin crust, thick crust, frozen crust, deep dish etc. Gay 90s serves a delicious Sourdough crust. It is thicker than most places, but not deep dish. The cheese was excellent. Hot, stringy cheese that arches from the cut slice back to the whole pie - all members of my family loved it. The vegetarian pizza had crisp, firm vegetables. Most fresh tomatoes on pizzas appear soggy to me - these were just right. Crisp, yet juicy. The BBQ pizza was awesome as well. The sauce wasn't overpowering - just delicious. The atmosphere and interior decor were fun - we really had a good time eating here.

Gay 90s, I loved the name of this place, always makes me laugh. I've been here twice and both times the pizza was freaking amazing. The memorable one was a chicken with artichoke heart pizza. SO GOOD. Both times I've gone there has been good atmosphere and the pizza is always worth the wait. Try it you'll like it!

I went with my family recently. It had been a few years since the last time I have eaten here. It was a Sunday afternoon, service was very quick. In particular, the young female waiter who was serving our table, she did a good job. She was friendly, polite and attentive. We ordered the large Frank's Special. It was tasty and the crust was good. People have their preferences with crust. Some like it really thick. Others like it thin. I like mine thick. Gay Nineties did me right with the crust. We also had the salad with the vinaigrette dressing and garlic bread. The salad was fresh and with the dressing it was good. We were so full that we had leftover pizza (pizza in the morning?), which is never a bad thing. It is a little pricey but it was good overall. So I will come back here again.

Been enjoying the pizza here since I was a kid. I love the crust on their pizza! Of all the times I have been there, I am not sure I have had anything aside from the pizza, so I can't say much about anything else. But take my word for it, the pizza is phenomenal! You will not be disappointed! Who the hell came up with the name for this company?! I'm confused...

I don't get what the hype is about this place. I went there a couple months back to try "the best pizza in Pleasanton" and can't figure that one out. Okay, I don't like the thick crust, so okay give take that away and it was not so bad. It was edible, but not one that you could eat leftover because it just soaked through.... So, I thought the other night to give it another try. I wanted something fast, but not drive through fast and I live in the area. It was just at 9:00pm, so I wasn't sure if they were still open and didn't see a sign. So I walk in and ask a guy, he says yes. So I sit at the bar. The lady walks by gives me a scowl and asks if I need a table, I say no can I just eat here. Another scowl, yeah and walks away. A few minutes later comes back wandering by, I have to stop her..."Can I have a beer?"...Wow that annoyed her "What flavor"...I tell her and move on. So I ask the first guy "Do you guys close at 9?" and he says they close when business slows down. It was still fairly busy so I didn't feel so bad. I worked in the industry and know how annoying that is, but I also knew I was going to be out of there before most people there. Another guy comes to take my order. I decide to try the spaghetti since the pizza wasn't my favorite. Well the spaghetti sauce was just not good, had WAY too much basil in it and very little of any other spice and very little meat. But the garlic bread was good, I give them that. A couple times the first lady walks by but never a smile an acknowledment, or anything. The guys were friendly enough, not overly but I do understand everyone was tired, but at least they faked it. So unless dragged with no choice, I doubt I'll be back. BUT if I do, I'll try the salads - hard to go too wrong there...and for sure get the garlic bread.

This place was recommended by a friend who moved out of the area years ago. I took my family there for dinner last night and have not stopped thinking about the pizza! We ordered Jeff's special and the wings. Delicious pizza and huge, tasty wings. The service was good too. We're going back for lunch today!

I hate this place. The pizza is soggy in the middle and drenched with bad quality cheese. The pasta (i had alfredo) was overcooked and the sauce had weird undertones and a bad aftertaste (probably old). I would not suggest going to gay 90's, but i know there are some die hards out there that would kill for this place.

This restaurant was between a three and four starts; overall okay. What bumped it up to a four was the amount of food served for the price, the service, and the wine. The pizza was average, half veggie half hawaiian; the veggie was the best. We ordered an antipasti appetizer for two, this can easily feed four. The service was fantastic, no problems. I don't know if we will ever visit again, but it's worth to try at least once.

Ate here on 6/13/2009 Pizza was very good. (A little greasy) -I suggest the jalapeno and garlic Prices were reasonable. Staff was attentive and friendly. Negative: Not a great beer selection. Would definitely come again if in the area.

Ordered out a Veggie Special. The pizza was ready to pick up when they said it would be and was piping hot. I loved how the pizza was packed with toppings and had a fluffy crust. 1 slice is enough to make someone full. The flavors however weren't anything out of the ordinary or mind blowing hence the 3 stars or A-OK. I would come back to Gay Nineties to try the dining-in.

Would you like a hair cut with your lunch? Seriously. I took my kids there and when my youngest tried to go to the bathroom she was turned away by one of the workers that was giving another a hair cut in the bathroom. I'm guessing this is probably a health code violation, No? The food wasn't that great either. Maybe it's because I felt like I needed to inspect every bite to see if there were any loose hairs in my food from the bathroom haircut that took place at the same time our food was being served. We actually didn't even finish eating because we were grossed out and because my daughter had to use the bathroom and couldn't because of the whole hair cut thing. Not lying about any of this. Don't understand the hype. We won't ever go back. Well I take that back. Maybe when we're hungry for pizza and need a trim, but only under those circumstances.

Lunchtime staple in Downtown Pleasanton. We always get a Chicken Pesto pizza that hits the spot. The crust is doughy and deep. The toppings are massive and the pizza as a whole has a lot of breadiness to it. One of the best pizzas in town. Orders take about 15-20 minutes, so prepare for about an hour long visit.

Gay 90's is as the rating goes "A-Ok". Its nothing special but its not nasty either. I think I honestly prefer going to Round Table down the street over Gay 90's. I mean I dont have a problem with the pizza itself (its actually pretty good) but there was just this constant stench that smelled like an old dumpster mixed in with old spilled beer thats been absorbed into the wood deck patio where we were seated. The service was good and the pizza was decent but I would say that the place needs a good deep cleaning and maybe have the deck power washed. Untill that happens, I think I'll go else where. Oh yeah, it was on the pricey side too. We had a medium regular crust three toping pizza and one soda and it came out to $30 (with tax and tip).

I used to go here as a kid and just recently rediscover this great classic pizza joint. I had the garlic cheese bread which are very cheesy and taste great. Then I ordered a simple cheese and olive pizza, a simple pizza which if the seasoning, sauce, and dough are not great will be real boring. But the thick crusted pizza had the right amount of cheese and the perfect amount of full flavored sauce. This place is great for families or just a pizza and a pitcher.

I gave this place a shot. and it was nice afternoon for pizza. We were in downtown pleasanton, and didn't want to spend too much money, so pizza it was. The good: They have booths- one point. They have a good amount of choices for toppings. (zucchini!! on pizza!) Why I was not impressed: Pizza sauce lacks flavor. minimal cheese on my pizza. salami was a store bought flavor lacking kind...I was hoping for a good pairing to go with my pizza, most mom and pop pizza places have better salami for their pizzas. the side salad was a rip-off. lettuce and carrots...hrmmm 1.95 for a little over a cup full? yea, they really make bank off the suckers (ie, me) who order it. no olives even!! I am not wowed, I did not think it was so great, and yes, I have had better.

One of the best pizza's in the Tri-Valley. Taste and style similar to Primo's in Danville. Very good cheesy pizza with decent crust. Service is spotty. Some of the older staff look grumpy. Overall great place for old fashioned pizza and beer.

Not cool.......$40 for a large pizza and salad? If you do come here then get the thick crust pizza...b/c anything else comes out really really soggy. Even the thick crust was borderline soggy but it was OK. I cannot believe people rave about this place. RoundTable is down the street and taste much better.

Gay nineties has that perfect pizzeria vibe. Not to commercial, but built with some character and charm. I was craving that old fashioned pizza with a nice dinner salad that wasnt just dressing and lettuce. The dinner salad was full of veggies and great dressing for topping. Although, this was just the start I was already getting excited about my pizza. Once it arrived my husband (who is not a big of a pizza fan), my son, and my stomach were in love. On the plus side, the customer service was excellent. Will return back for some more!

I reallllly dig this place!!! The antique signs, old fashioned inspired decor, the soda jerk area thats reserved for beer (and good beer it is). The pizza is suuppper yummers!! Ooey, gooey goodness.. the cheese is imported from heaven I think, and all the toppings taste so fresh!! I eat anchovies on pizza... i know i know.. but they put it all pretty on a plate for me and make me feel more human about it. I always get an appetizer, too. Cheezy bread or zuchinni... im getting hungry just writing about it!!! oh yeah, and the wait never takes too long!!!

I love a local business, not a chain frozen and shipped pizza. I've only had it once, but very recently and this will definitely be our main pizza joint. (delicious pizza, but also a holdover from my husband's happy sporting event childhood memories, the team piling into Gay 90s for a celebratory pizza). We had the meat combination and California pizza. I prefer thin crust pizza, but this dough was so tasty! The California pizza was a little bland for me, won't order it again, but the combo was just classic good pizza. Yum. STOP THE PRESSES. My husband just told me how much it cost when we ordered two extra large pizzas for the extended fam last weekend. Holy smokes! But that dough sure is good....

Very good pizza if you are in the East Bay. They have a nice patio to sit outside. Their pizza crust is very nice. We usually have the vegetarian when we go there. Highly recommend it.

I been here twice and both times was work related. On the first visit, my supplier took us here for pizza. Being that it's a corner location you would think the restaurant was a good size. I was wrong, the dining room is pretty crammed. I didn't think there was anything spectacular about their pizza; it's greasy, the crust is thick, and the ingredients are fresh. The second time I came here, it was for a department meeting. The boss reserved the entire patio for our lunch function. I must say the patio is a nicer place to dine than the dining room itself, however the patio is weathered down and aged as well. Since my department had about 25 people, the staff set up a buffet style salad bar for us. When the pizza came, each table had three different types of pizza. For some reason, the pizza tasted better the second time around. Maybe a different pizza cook? I dunno but food should usually be consistant.

There pizza here is literally amazing!!!! There is only a few things. The best kind of pizza to get is just cheese!!! Seriously! & the prices have went up.

Came here over the weekend for the first time with the family and I would have to say I was truly disappointed! We decided to eat outside on the patio because the weather was nice and warm. Sat down with my family and the server (An older lady) came by and dropped off 2 small dishes and 2 sets of silverware and said she would be back to take our order. First of all there are 5 of us and not 2. Ok, I said she will return with more dishes and silverware. We ordered a 2 topping pizza and a Caesar salad to share. Why did she bring the salad out and no additional plates and silverware???? I had to flag her down and by now I was irritated. She dropped the salad off and ran without me being able to say a word.... The pizza came out and the cheese was running off the dough because the sauce was very watery. Ok,here is the kicker.I asked for the check and a box to go. WHY DID SHE TAKE THE PIZZA PLATTER AND FLING IT INTO THE BOX like a Frisbee. This lady has no etiquette and we will definitely NOT be back!

no question about it. this is the best pizza in the world. yes i said it, the world. it never lets you down, every time i go here with my wife and daughter we leave soooo happy we came. Seriously the best ever...did i say it was the best ever? it might cost a little more, but i would pay 2x as much. been there for centuries because they know what they are doing.

I have been going here for years with my parents. And, I have to say, they have some of the yummiest pizza (and pasta) that I have ever had. Perfect crust with lots of gooey cheese and such a wide variety of toppings. Service can be a little slow, but it's always busy when we go in, and being that we own a restaurant ourselves, it's something that I have come to learn not to get upset over. Overall, when I am visiting my parents in SR, I always suggest that we go here for some pizza.

  • Marla M.

The pizza is ok, the pasta is not. The service is mediocre at best. Either you have an ancient, or a kid. Neither has good guest skill. The atmoshpere is tired, dirty and old. The bathrooms are nasty. And certainly pricey for what you get, and conditions.... I wouldn't eat here again. Even if it was free...

I'm from Chicago, therefore, I love pizza (it's a valid statement for all you logic junkies out there). Almost any pizza, but truly, Gay Nineties is the best pizza I've found in California. Great crust, great sauce, great ingredients. I'll be back - often. Yum!

I like this place. Amazing crust. There are not a lot of places that I like along Main Street... Many of the restaurants are overpriced for what you get but I liked this place. We will definitely return.

Can't tell anything about the food but was really unimpressed with service there:WE, the three of us walked in to get a takeout. The waiter looks at us and then without a word turns around and walks away. Did not come back for at least five minutes while we stood at the entrance. Oh well, there is a great place across the street.

So I feel like I could only ever go to this place in the summer because I would have to sit outside. Inside smelled of something deathly and was kind of crowded space wise. The patio is kind of nice in a beat up, weathered down sort of way. The pizza was good and I didn't pay for it so I have no idea about the price thought I don't imagine it's super cheap. Our waitress hated her life despite being high as a kite. Next time I'll order to go.

Good thick crust pizza and awesome garlic bread. Trust me it'll be hard to share only one order. Their lasagna was okay. Nothing special. I'd stick to their pizza.

I have lived in Pleasanton for over 6 years and avoided going to this place for one reason or another. The name, the decor, I dont know what it was. However we took the family there when our daughter got accepted to a UC College just to be different for a change. We were seated inside right away. Service was decent. The menu consists of some Italian Food along with Pizza. We tried the Pizza. It was decent, the dough was average and the cheese was a little flavorless along with the toppings. I have eaten pizza at Many, Many Places so I am a tough critic. I have to tell you that I have had better pizza. Although I would say that if I had a choice between Round Table and this place, I may give it one more try. It however is not in any way special enough. The waitress asked if we would like french bread or garlic? We assumed it came with the meal, that was NOT the case. The waitress staff is also a bit on the older-mature side. All in all the place feels a bit 70's to mid 80's. The food did not "HIT" me as being "SPECIAL" I would not visit here again for a while. Better Pizza: Amichis for thin crust and ambience Round Table for variety and consistency and coupens Zacharys for herd mentality, everyone is going there, so it must be good! Della Torres Trattoria- Best Hand Made Low Volume Pizza Ciceros-(San Jose) Freakin Awesome Pizza, expect to see INDIANS Chicago Pizza (San Jose)- Best Thick Crust This place needs to change ownership. If your NOT BUSY BUSY with all the Pleasanton crowd, consider selling the place and let someone else succeed. I dont get people who say the pizza is great? They need to get out more? Generally the Tri Valley Crowd has NOT experianced great pizza and they may be confused or simply unaware of what KICK ASS pizza really is.... Many Tri Valley Residents get excited over a Panera or Chipotle openning up in town, sorry if I offended anyone. Etc Etc Update: Tried Pizza Take-Out. Pizza Dough is too chewey not right. You either love it or hate it.

Good pizza (not spectacular, but certainly enjoyable). Friendly service. Very costly. Cost us $25 dollars for two pizza lunch specials. We will consider them for a pizza to go option.

This place is on my refuse to go to list. The interior is dark and unwelcoming. The service has been eh, in my two visits. The pizza is gross. I still have trouble understanding why people wait outside in the cold for this stuff. It's never thoroughly baked through and has too much sauce. Leaving you with a gooey, saucey mess with little flavor and a spattering of toppings. They definitely make you pay through the nose for "designing" a pizza anywhere outside the norm. Go to Amici's instead.

    (1)
  • Patrick S.

Thicker crust, but excellent if you like that sort of thing. Just the regular crust--they offer an extra thick option that I find overly doughy. A nice quirky local spot in an area with too many franchised food options. The patio is great when the weather heats up, good selection of beer and non-pizza dishes.

  • Bobby D.

The service is good, it can get very busy at times. The pizza is just OK, nothing special. I've been here a few times, and been ok with the food for the most part. The pizza can be a bit soggy, and other times it has been OK. Not a fan of their crust, it's very thin and crunchy.

  • Karen K.

Our managers really like this pizza place and every so often they treat us to a pizza meal when they have a craving. Pizza is decent - generous toppings, good amount of cheese and sauce to make it tasty. Salad is good too. We always ask for extra beets for the salad and they are always very accommodating. Service has always been excellent here. Outdoor patio is a wonderful place to eat especially when you are cooped up in an office with no windows to let in the natural sunlight.

  • Christian C.

meh. pizza is acceptable. the crust wasnt as good as i had hoped. the toppings were so so. i dont really remember what pizza i got but i remember thinking it was better than dominos which doesnt say all that much. salad: boring and unmemorable pasta: i am currently eating chicken fettucini alfredo (easy, right). it is bland and flavorless. the sauce is too runny. the chicken is overcooked to the point of being inedible. i am not enjoying this at all. garlic bread: although the portion is decent sized, it tastes of things that arent garlic (weird) and not garlicky enough. the only reason i didnt give this place a one star rating is because the people who work there are nice. dont go here if want something good to eat.

I know what a funny name but I think it's name comes from a dance move done around the 1920's. Yes pizza is just pizza but this place does it best, just don't ask what the secret sauce is. : P

Once you get past the name (what was so gay in the nineties about pizza?) you'll find some decent pizza for what's available in the area. Beats the commercial stuff anytime. Went here some time ago with a few enthusiasts from a car club I was in. Decent, yet dark, atmosphere, complete with TV's and a bar/pizza pub kinda feel. Outdoor tables are a plus on a nice day. Bonus: this place is supposedly haunted with the ghost of a woman. When the hair on the back of your neck stands up, you'll know...

This pizza is the best!!! The crust, sauce and toppings are very fresh. In my opinion if the food is not worth the calories I won't eat it. Gay Ninties pizza is always worth the calories! Other pizza...no way, not worth it. When my dad visits from Chicago he always makes me take him twice within his 10 day visit because he says it's the best. He loves the crust. If you like real pizza... you will love Gay Ninties

I've only been here for lunch and had the small pizza, salad and drink 'special'. I am surprised by all the positive reviews. This place isn't as good as Round Table; there is no honesty in this reviewed pizza. The pizza crust was fairly thick and flavorless. The sauce was probable from a can. My one topping was olives - the best part of the pizza. The salad was standard iceberg type, likely from a bag, not prepared on site. The dressing was poor. Even the drink was not tasting right - from the tap. The service was reasonable. I'd only go back if I was intent on having coffee at Tulley's across the street with free refills and free wi-fi after lunch, on my break. The pizza doesn't deserve the rave reviews. Even based on other standard American style pizzas, it's just fair at best. I'd suggest NY Pizza - usually good and cheap on the same block or near Hopeyard and Highway 580. Don't do it.

I haven't been here in a very long time, but last night we went back for some "ooey gooey" pizza. Their pizza comes on a thick crust that is crisp on the bottom and just chewy enough on the edges. Generous amounts of toppings, great sauce, lots of very gooey stringy mozzarella cheese. The crust is a tad on the thick side for me, because I prefer thin crust, but my husband loves their pizza. If you eat there, service is really slow. I'm not sure what take out service is like... VERY kid friendly, kind of dark and loud. They have an interesting decor with replicas of 19th and early 20th century classified ads collaged on each table and historical newspaper clippings framed on the walls.

One of the best Pizza's in the Bay Area. But, they also have the best Cobb Salad. It is enormous and fresh. It has so much flavor you do not even need any dressing. Also, the antipasto platter is huge and inexpensive. The sandwiches are fantastic, made on the freshest sourdough bread rolls and believe it or not, they have some of the best fried chicken around. Also, try their take on Jambalaya and you have to get the Clam Chowder on Friday nights.

The food was decent. The service was amateur night at it's best. The pizza was decent. Good crust, cheese, baked well. Young kid's working there, he forgot 1/2 our order. Then once I stopped them, and they figured out what went wrong, the order was straightened out. YMMV

I'm torn between giving this place 3 stars or 4. The pizza and salad are delicious and they have a daily personal pizza and salad deal. Well worth the money! The downfall? I found a finger nail in my water. That was pretty disguisting. I have gone back a few times since, however, because the pizza is wonderful!

    (4)
  • Rachel S.

The pizza here is delicious, and I love how they are generous with the cheese. They also try and sop up a lot of the grease before they serve it to you, which is kind of nice. Service is hit and miss, usually a miss but the pizza makes up for it. Good place for kids, and they even have toys available to keep the little ones happy. Glad the bathrooms were remodeled - they used to be pretty nasty.

This review is based on three separate visits and sad to say the experience has been the same each time. The service is what sorely lacks at this restaurant. It takes a long time to get even a glass of water, and the wait staff seems to forget about you while you are there. You shouldn't have to grab them to get their attention. The food is okay, but overpriced for what you order. Save your money and go to Round Table or New York Pizza down the street.

Best pizza in Pleasanton, bar none (thick crust of course :-) ). And their's are your classic cheese, pepperoni, ham and "combination" fare -- none of those goat-cheese with sun-dried tomatoes and jamaican jerk chicken foo-foo gourmet pies. That said, their vegetarian combo with artichoke hearts is top of the charts. (Since I've only had their pizza's and usually 'to go', I can't comment on the rest of their menu items.)

I'm casting another vote for Gay 90's as having some of the best pizza on earth. Yes it's better eaten with a knife and fork, but most pizzaria pizza is. Their crust is a delightful sour dough, and everything is generously proportioned. They offer eggplant as a topping, which is the battered eggplant they use for eggplant Parmesan and it's awesome! When you order onions as a topping, you get a mix of red, white and yellow onions--also a very nice touch. A trick I've learned over the years is when ordering a plain cheese pizza to request thick crust, because the regular crust tends to get lost under the ocean of cheese. (They're also happy to provide complementary sides of ranch or blue cheese for dipping the extra crust in.) The service is good, ambiance is cozy and novel, and while I can't speak for the entire menu, their pasta dishes are excellent and their pizza is phenomenal. If you like the pizza from Frankie Johnny & Luigi Too, Georgios or Primos, Gay 90's trumps them all in my opinion. If you have never heard of any of the aforementioned places, prefer a wafer-thin NY style pizza with no discernible crust, or enjoy Pizza Hut and other such swill, you'd probably do well to eat elsewhere. That's cool, less wait for the Gay 90's faithful!

This place is BOMB. i ordered some ravioli and yes i can vouch to say it tastes good, it was cooked well and soft and the alfredo sauce they use is really bomb, it kills macaroni grill's sauce easily. They even gave me a free soda when i came to pick up. that was nice, I really enjoyed all the props they had Ill consider coming with a group or a few next time all in all it was good and they are generous with their portions too. just wish they would deliver though, yum.

Meh. I've experienced better. My wife and I came here today since we were in the area, and just left Murphy's paw one block down. We figured... what the hell, let's try it. We walk in, and it's seat yourself. We find a booth a few booths down, and have a seat. A very friendly waitress walks by and asks us if we'd like any drinks. I order an ice tea, and my wife orders a diet soda. "Pepsi ok?", asks the waitress. "Uh sure", my wife says. Already strike one... no Coke? C'mon! Everyone knows coke tastes better! :) I hate when places have Pepsi only. My iced tea was plain and original, nothing special. We ordered a small pizza, and got it half BBQ Chicken and the other half Salami and Zucchini. We also ordered a side salad. My side salad was with ranch, and my wife's was with Italian dressing. The salad was a good size for a side item, and was $1.95. It had fresh pieces of mozzarella cheese, lettuce, carrots and a pepper. Came with crackers. It was served in a wooden bowl. My wife's Italian dressing was very plain and not so tasty. No bread and butter? :( About 20-25 minutes later, the pizza comes out. We ordered the normal crust, and it was plenty thick. There was 4 pieces on each side, and smelled pretty good. Once we took a bite we both looked at each other, and thought "ugh, nothing special". The only unique thing was that the crust was pretty tasty. All in all, our experience was mediocre. Nothing special, nothing worth coming back for. I like Bruno's in Downtown Livermore better. Pizza was $16. Edit: I just saw Scotty D's picture of this extra thick crust. It looked just like our normal sized crust. Either we got a thicker crust or they just charged Scotty D an extra $3 for nothing :) (I think it's $2 extra for thick crust on a small, and $3 for a medium +)

Yeah so what if Craig Ferguson made fun of this place on his late night talk show. The food here is still good. It's been a staple in the oh so cute downtown neighborhood for as long as I can remember. Rumour has it, this place is haunted so if things unexpectedly fall on the ground get used to it. The pizza here is delicious. A size small pizza is definitely enough to feed four people if you average two slices a person. It's a wee bit pricey and if you get here during the last hour, you can only order pizza. That's your fault for not getting in gear before that time. It has that nice home town feel to it.

This place has been around forever! And is so yummy! Never disapointed when I come here. The service is fast and friendly. They also have a pizza for you pregnant women out there called the "pregnancy pizza" that's supposed to help induce labor. Love this place and will continue to eat here.

Beware those people that are even marginally lactose intollerent: the two pounds of cheese they dump on your pizza will turn your intestines into a boa constrictor on acid. We needed pizza, and De la Torre's (our pizza go-to place) was close because the owners were on vacation for a week. We hadn't taken out from Gay Nineties in about a year, and we were desperate for a pie. What we got was a doughy, slightly undercooked pizza with WAAYYYY too much cheese, bland sauce and very mediocre toppings. When we lived nearby, we used to go there often, and I had forgotten that we used to order our pizza "well-cooked, light on the cheese" in order to get a normal pizza. I give the place three stars because the atomosphere is awesome! You can't beat the place for a hanging out with a group on a warm Pleasanton summer evening, knocking back several pitchers and eating some mediocre 'za. Even in the winter, the interior of the place is warm and inviting. So, to sum it up, go there for the atmosphere, and prepare yourself for so-so pizza.

I was wondering when I'd get a chance to try this venue of the pizza kind. I didn't really care where we got pizza, but I'm glad we came here. The place during lunch time is slow, which meant that our pizza wouldn't take too long to come out. We received our pizza hot, fresh, and smelling great. We ordered a large All Meat pizza. I care not for the sausage, but it was a change of pace from my normal pepperoni only pizzas. I usually like my peps sliced thin with a bit of crunch to it. Although the varieties of meat were present, the winner goes to the sliced ham or was it turkey? Very tasty and well worth another try. The best part was the slice that was eaten a day later. The meats were smelling great, tasting ok and the crust still had that freshness to it.

Best pizza in Pleasanton! I wish they delivered, but will gladly trek to downtown Pleasanton anytime I feel like pizza. I usually only get their pepperoni and it's always great! Their run of the mill garden salad is really good as well and they have the yummiest ranch dressing!

It was a Sunday afternoon and after watching the Travel Channel's "Best Places to Pig Out" we were craving pizza...not the usual pizza chains you see all over the tube. So we logged on to YELP and decided to give this place a try. We were greeted and seated right away. As I looked around, I was trying to figure out the name of the restaurant. Nothing looked "gay" in the restaurant and everything I saw dated before the nineties. Honestly, I still dont get the name. But I am sure there is some historic significance to the name. Oh well. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, especially for being the only waitress there, and going back and forth between the outside dining area and dining room. The pizza and the cesear salad where delicious as well as the garlic bread. The waitress came back a few times to make sure we were okay. I would definitely come back to "Gay Nineties Pizza". Additionally, the price was very reasonable compared to the normal commerical pizza establishments that charge so much. Enjoy!

The pizza is tasty, especially the Wayne's World. That earns a star. And there's a large patio. Star #2. However, the service is horrible. Today, we arrived with a group at 11:30. After about 15 minutes of deliberation, at 11:45, we ordered three pizzas. At 12:15, people started commenting about being forgotten. We asked for our pizzas three different times, and each time we were told that it would be ready in just a minute. By 12:30 one of our guests went inside to look for the pizzas. At 12:45 -- a full hour after ordering -- the three pizzas were brought to our table... cold. Where had they been for the past hour? It's a mystery. This is not the first case of bad service here. The last time I attempted to come here with my family, nearly a year ago, we were completely ignored by all servers for 30 minutes, at which point we finally got up and left. Clearly, the situation has not improved.

Just went here last night after years. It was great! The pizza is so good - they just load it up with toppings. Service was fine - our waitress was a little grumpy but we didn't have to wait long for the food or the bill. In fact we are having family home tonight for dinner and we are going back. GREAT PIZZA!

So, this place has some pretty good pizza. Being that I grew up in Chicago I have to say it tastes the most like Chicago pizza out of places I have tried here. But, I go to this place and it gives me the willies. It is old and grungy, and looks unsanitary. I just feel a certain sense of "ick" when eating food here. The food is good, though. The fried calamari is yummy, the cheese pizza is good, and the garlic bread is pretty tasty. Their desert menu is limited, and the wait staff was rude-ish to us when we presented a coupon from restaurant.com , saying they haven't taken them in a long time. Well, sorry Charlie, California doesn't have an expiration date on gift certificates, so I told her she had to honor it, which she did with a bit of a huff. The outdoor seating is nice, although it would be better if it faced Main Street. Decent food if you can get over the atmosphere.

We arrived at about 5:45 PM on a Saturday evening. The parking lot and restaurant were pretty empty. I have no complaints about the service, but the pizza was just so-so: watery sauce and blah crust. My tap beer tasted kinda funky, too. I had a good case of indigestion into the night (which is not a normal occurrence), so something wasn't working for me. I liked the vibe of the place, though. It's definitely a good spot for families and I was able to catch scores on the t.v. It was a little chilly that evening, so we skipped the patio. That looked like it had potential to be a fun hangout. I give Gay 90s four stars for the atmosphere, two stars for the food. The kids liked it much more than I did, so we may venture back. I'll probably avoid the pizza, though.

update Oct 2007 - - - I tried the pizza, several times now and don't know why I waited so long! DELICIOUS! My favorite is the BBQ Chicken - tons of chicken w/ just enough sauce - melt in the mouth.. My mouth is watering - I'm off to order delivery. OK I have not tried the pizza but LOVED the meatballs - melt in your mouth! Can't beat the neighborhood bar feel, the wait folk are super friendly - feels like you belong. One can sit at the bar area and watch tv or at one of the many old style tables and have a good time with your family.

Was quiet when I went in today with a friend. , service was fast although we had to change the pizza when it arrives as they mis-heard our order, but when it came it was very nice food and hot, had a salad and garlic bread on the side which was nice to nibble while waiting for the pizza. really enjoyed my time here.

Located in charming downtown Pleasanton, the place is casual with nostalgic decor inside the place. They have tables both indoors and outdoors, and a TV inside (to watch games). Friendly staff. I had the Cobb Salad -- it was big! And the presentation was nice, but it was really salty -- if I were to order it again, I'd see if they can put the bacon and the turkey on the side.

I love their pizza, but there is always a wait for a table, then a server, then the food. The fact that it's crowded attests to the deliciousness of the food, but it is always really loud. I mean can't-hear-the-person-you're-with loud. However, I've discovered a cure: take away!

I dream about this pizza; it's no wonder it has a cult following. Everyone that I bring here gets hooked on it. Their pizza crust is really thick and their toppings have a lot of flavor. I always order pepperoni, mushrooms and black olives, but I've tried the sauage too, and that's pretty damn tastey. The restaurant is on the small side, but it's worth the wait. The wait staff is always friendly, especially at the bar. The weathered decor and dim lighting add the the restaurants old-school-P-town feel that is evident up and down Main Street. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. Pizza me long time.

This place is "Old Town Pleasanton". From the decor on the walls, you get a sense of the town's history...and maybe even from some long time patrons. My hubby was born and raised in P-town and has always loved the pizza here. It's thick crust and the menu also has pasta dishes. The family sized Caesar salad is a must, with a couple of huge croutons, YUM! This can easily be shared by 4 people. When it's busy, the service is a little lackluster. And the atmosphere with a lot of kids can make it a bit loud for my taste. There are also the times when you have stupid drunk people two tables away using profanity very loudly...but we won't get into that one. Ah, I digress. Well, it's not the first time, Yelper. But, as I have mentioned before, I do this for my husband who loves his pizza. Sometimes, we bring his mom here, she likes it too. The meaty pizzas usually weigh in first, I'm lucky if we have his friend Jim along--that's the only time I'll get my veggies! Actually, that is probably the perfect friend to bring, his wife likes meat and cheese, Jim likes veggies...maybe I married the wrong guy??? Naahhh, my guy doesn't treat me like a princess when he knows I'm the Queen. He's the pizza king. He says go there, you'll like it.

This place has great atmosphere and the pizza is really good. I believe there are 3 ingredients to a truly great pizza - Dough/crust, sauce & fresh mozzarella. This place got all 3 right. I've never tried anything but the pizza, but I also don't go to pizza parlors for anything other than pizza. The interior is entertaining and there is always something to read or tilt your head at and wonder where the hell it came from. Also enjoy the option to sit outside on the deck and watch the main street passersby.

I think Stacy C's comment is pretty close, although I give the place a bit of a better score. The pizza is ok, not great, but ok. When they're slow, it's better, I guess they're able to put more detail into preparation. I love the atmosphere though. It has some really cool little trinkets on the wall and whatnot, and definitely a fun overall experience.

I may be biased but I have been going to Gay Nineties Pizza since I was a little girl. I absolutely love this place. It has some of the best pizza I have ever had in my opinion. I moved away years ago and whenever I get pizza I compare it to Gay Nineties. I love the decor and the staff. This place has so much personality on top of great food. The last time I went there was about a week ago and it was fabulous. I ordered just a small cheese pizza and it was basically a work of art. The pizza looked like something out of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. The pizza they ordered always looked so good. Hot with really melty cheese. If you want delicious TMNT pizza in probably one of the coolest pizza parlors around then go to gay Nineties!

Pizza & Italian. The décor was old newspapers and WWII propaganda in display on most of the walls. The table was covered with newspaper ads from the 40's and 50's. No Reservations on SAT so we got there by 17:30 before he rush. Service was horrible; I had to get up to get the plates, the napkins and utensils. Ordered the Calamari (2) (fresh out of the box) soft rubber tasteless covered with thick batter. Then we order the Medium size 1/2 cheese & half Frank's Special (3.5) (Pepperoni, linguisa, Ham, Salami, Bell Peppers, Onion, Olives, and Mushrooms). Toppings: Meats: good, olives fresh out of a can. The dough was pretty good but the center was a bit gooey. Drinks they have Fat Tire on tap, Pipe liked the offering of Gatorade Punch, Gabi thought the Pino Grigio was OK. I was expecting to have a double espresso with my pizza but the espresso machine was broken. We had a sliced left and nobody wanted to take it home

I've been going here since I was five and i must say i still love it! The pizza is great with ANY topping and afterwards you can stroll about the shops in down town. The crust is thick and the topping are plentiful. They also have comfortable outside sitting for warm summer evenings. however, WATCH OUT for the weekend nights. They become SOOOO BUSY! that the service can just become CRAP. the best time to go is forsure on a weekday for an some what early lunch 11:30 perhaps. But it's definitely worth it!

Our favorite place for Pizza in Pleasanton! Whether you sit inside or outside on the deck, it always has a very "hometown" feel. Good pizza, good service, you can't go wrong.

Mmm, mmm good. This pizza is awfully tasty. It's thick, with good sauce and good toppings. The inside of the restaurant is really cluttered, but in a good way ... part of the charm. They've got lots of old antique-y things in a Friday's kind of style, but these are more authentic. The tabletops are printed with old newspaper ads that will entertain you when the conversation hits a lull. They've also got a decent patio out back when the weather is good. I came here alone once and placed an order to go and the waitress offered me a free soda while I waited. You can't beat that. Good times. Good pizza. Prices ain't too bad either. And if you're not in the mood for pizza, their Albacore tuna salad is pretty tasty, too.

This place has been around FOREVER but there's a reason why. The pizza is the BEST in Tri-Valley. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and I don't think I have ever ordered anything other than pizza and salad. I am a simple kind a girl - pepperoni, sausage and onion is the perfect pizza for me. I do agree with other reviewers - it is NOT think crust pizza. Also service can be inconsistent, but I will ALWAYS come here when someone mentions pizza.

    (4)
  • Chris K.

Just okay pizza. The crust is pretty good for the thicker crust variety, but there's too much sauce and the pepperoni was greasy. We split a caesar salad as well that was pretty flavorless except for the parmesan cheese. What really irked me was that the waitress brought our check before we were done eating and then proceeded to look for the credit card every time she walked by. We felt very rushed! Not likely to return.

I have been here a few times and though the pizza is a bit pricey, I enjoyed the experience both times. I love the outside seating, especially with a couple of pizzas, pitchers of beer and great friends. It isn't the best pizza I have ever had but it is still really good. Located in cute downtown Pleasanton, it is a great place to go.

My friend and I enjoying our Sunday afternoon exceptionally at Gay Nineties Pizza. We ordered a medium pizza and we walked away saying that that was the best pizza we had ever had before. The pizza was absolutely incredible and accompanied our pitcher of beer perfectly. We hope to go back very soon. The only reason I did not give 5/5 stars is because I wasn't too thrilled about our waitress. She seemed uncaring and rather slow. All in all, Gay Nineties is my favorite pizza place around!

My husband & I love the pizza here! So yummmmmy! We've been in a few times and l love the thick crust and all the fresh toppings. We've had a few unique combos that were really delicious. And the service was great. Mmmm....just writing this I think I'm starting to crave a pizza. :-)

Great ham & cheese sub sandwich, awesome pizza, yummy garlic bread. Same great taste for over 36 years that I know of. The pizza dough has a sweet taste to it in my opinion. Fun place to work back in the 70's. Highly recommend :)

I agree with Scotty on Gay Nineties! We had their pizza for our last party and it was so good. I love their pizza WAY better than Amici's which my husband loves so much. I think I would even eat the hair on my pizza that Lisa P mentioned because I like it so much. I will however pass on getting my hair cut there. Not sure if they are as good at the hair cuts as they are at making Pizza!

The pizza is good. I had the Waynes World, and it was pretty awesome. The environment is cool, and there is a lot of outdoor seating. We had a really good time, but the service was kind of slow. It was a little more expensive than your average pizza, but it's worth it.

I've been going to this place since I was a kid, and it is top notch pizza. You pay a bit more than some places, but it is worth it! We recently tried the caesar salad for the first time also, and it was excellent (and huge too). It can easily serve 4 people before the pizza arrives. I definitely recommend this place!

This place was jumping early on a Friday night. As mentioned in another post, this place is bigger than it appears. Since it was a pleasant evening, we decided to sit out in the patio. The interior of the restaurant was dark and very crowded, so we were very happy with our choice. The chicken, artichoke pizza was bland; however the crust was thick and delicious. The vegetarian pizza had the best flavor of the two we tried. Service was very slow, but again, it was to be expected to a degree since they WERE so busy. Would come here again for the veggie pizza.

My family loves this place, so my boyfrind, cousin and I went here about a month ago for a pizza dinner. The awesome calamari is the only reason this place gets 3 stars... And the bathrooms have been remodeled. They used to be SO gross. It is kind of nostalgic to people, I guess because it's been around so long, but I thought the pizza was mediocre and the prices were outrageous. $70 before tip for a pitcher of beer, one pizza and calamari? Ouch.

Gay Nineties Pizza Co. wins my award for best pizza place with a weird name. The pizza is amazing. Everything else kinda sucks. I eat my weight in cheese and peperoni every time I go. Their pizzas are kinda pricey but worth it. I wish they came in larger sizes but I'm not opposed to ordering multiple pizzas. The ambiance is great too. And the back pattio is nice as long as it's not raining. No one likes a soggy pizza.

We ordered their pizza to-go last saturday evening. It was one of the worst pizza's I ever eat, it was gooey and soggy. Hardly worth the price. I would not go there again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Walked in around 3 pm on a saturday afternoon. No one was in the restaurant except a table of ladies. There was a man behind the counter and a waitress wandering around. The man stared at my husband and I and said nothing. The waitress looked at us and walked away. The ladies at the table atleast smiled. We sat at the booth for a good 10 minutes and NO ONE came to us and acknowledge we were there. So we got up and left and never went back in ever again. All I can say is that I would NEVER EVER EVER go here if this was the last place that had no wait. I'd rather go to the grocery store and get a frozen pizza and cook it. I'd like to give this place a NEGATIVE # for service and attitude.

I LOVE pizza! Pizza of every kind. I try to get it everywhere I go, and I'm very picky on how I like it. This is pretty much the best pizza I have ever had, anywhere! Hands down, the best pizza in Pleasanton. It's thick, with a nice sourdough crust. You can even get EXTRA THICK, which is the way to go if you like a big slice! The wayne's world is a personal favorite (pesto, red onion, garlic, tomato). Go lite on the toppings as it can get really soggy if you load it up with stuff like pineapple and tomato. They also have Pastas etc., but the pizza is the star of the show. Why go anywhere else?

  • Sharon M.

Yum! I've been going here since I was a kid and have yet to be disappointed! The pizza is great! If you choose a signature pizza or wish of customize you can be sure that either way you pizza is going to be pile high with toppings. They don't just offer pizza, though you would be silly to pass a slice up here. You will find many Italian dinner favorites, along with soups, sandwiches and salads. They do have a bar and it's a great place to meet up with friends for some beers and a slice. I am also a big fan of local businesses who support other local businesses in which they do by offering a number of Livermore wines.

I have never had a bad pizza experience here. Tonight I tried the lasagna. Good...greasy...but good. Definitely get the garlic bread over the french bread. The Jello id much better then the bread pudding if you get the dinner entree...the bread pudding comes in a yummy raspberry sauce....but the custard on top is bigger then the bread pudding and extremely bland. If I order pizza I get the BBQ chicken...always yummy. Pepsi...no coke...oh well. We can't all be perfect. Definitely a friendly casual place for kids on Main Street. Sit outside on days with good weather.

The night I was there it was sooo packed! A wait and barely room to walk where you needed. I liked the way it looked when i walked in. It had a cool nostalgic look and feel. I actually wanted to sit inside, but no room. So, we went outside a waiting and waiting and finally someone! but they werent our server. So, we waited more then I finally just asked someone to bring us a pitcher of beer. Finally, our server came, They were really bogged down and running around like chickens with... well, you know. I could understand but Just didnt want to be forgotten in all the "traffic" going on. Anyhow, when we did finally get our pizza, it was very thick we didnt order it that way, it just was. It was "oooey-gooey" pizza. Way to thick, but thats what youll expect there sloppy thick and cheesy. Alot of people like it that way. Im not sayin its bad.. I liked it, it was just TOO much for me. Oh and yes, we did get forgotten. The wait just to catch the waitress to pay was as long as waiting for the pizza almost. WHEW! But during all this waiting, we got to watch a busboy not wanting to do his job and other bussers and waiters lookin for him to help clear the tables. The place was BUSY!! the guy was tryin to hide and use his cellphone. A little drama to ease the wait always kills time. This was over a year ago, BTW.

I really love their pizza! I order a small for myself thinking yea I could take on a small but man was I in for a surprise. This pizza had chunks of veggies and meat. It almost brought a tear to my eye. I was super excited when I picked it up and I drove home like I was driving a newborn home. The awesomeness is a bit more expensive then ordinary pizzas but well worth it. Yes I'm coming back here again and this time I'll sit down and eat.

We tend not to eat dairy anymore, but when we did, this was a favorite of mine and my family's. With food that good, it didn't matter that their patio seating was out-of-place-in-Pleasanton plastic. It's also a P-town institution. I can't even begin to count the number of times my late father told the story about the time he (on leave from the Navy) and my uncle went out with some friends and ended up tussling with carnies from the county fair. That was in the 60's and had all the brawl ingredients: beer pitchers breaking, people jumping over the bar, tables being 'cleared' What I wouldn't give to be able to tell a story about kicking some carney's ass in a pizza place. I need to get back to Gay 90's. Lactose intolerance be damned!

  • Michael G.

I also don't get the great reviews for pizza here. I am Italian and have had great pizza, this is not it. I think this is the "west coast" style pizza and maybe that's why so many like it. The service is slow and the prices are too high. There is better pizza in Pleasanton but for really authentic pizza you gotta get to SF, or, if you have time, get on a plane to NY, CT or even Chicago.

The pizza is quite delicious and the crust is great! Also, if you go on Mondays you can order the Chicken Parmasean sandwich! Yum! Sometimes the service is slow, but at the end of the day you will come out with a full tummy!

I am a huge pizza lover and this is my absolute favorite place to get pizza. Yes it's slightly expensive but I think you get a good amount for what you pay. The ingredients were fresh and the crust super tasty! oh and a+ for the beer!! Nothing compares to Gay Nineties!!

  • Nabeel Z.

There's a lot of hype about this pizza place, but I personally don't think it's all that exceptional. The last time I went there, the cheese completely slid off if my pizza. Overall its decent, but I would much rather go to another restaurant for pizza.

  • Nas T.

Okay so me and my fiance went there for the first time, we sat down, it was a really cool place nice and small, we ordered our food, the pizza was awesome but the service was plain how do you say.....BAD....HORRIBLE, it and not to say we paid a really big price for that one pizza, so its not cheap and its really in the end not worth it with the service. I would skip any day and go to California Kitchen!

There are some yelp favorites that I will just never understand... this is one of them. I'm torn between giving this place 2 and 3 stars. I really dislike the pizza. It's not really pizza, it's like cheese bread, there is sooooo much freakin dough. The sauce is bland. The toppings do seem pretty fresh. The staff is pretty apathetic, but it has an old school neighborhoody feel and the service is what you would expect. I'll give it three stars just so not to offend the yelpers who love this place so much. .. you're lucky Gay 90's!!!

Excellent pizza and I also have had the lasagna also very good, it came with a salad and french bread. the pizza had a good crust and it seemed like fresh toppings. It is worth the wait.

I went to Gay 90s for the first time last weekend and it must have been the weather or perhaps the planets aligned...something...because the place was empty. This worked out great for me, as I was hosting a party of 8. The service was top notch, one of the servers even gave us the scoop on some local folklore (ghosts, anyone?) and the pizza was divine. OMG I can appreciate why this place is normally hoppin, the food was fan-freakin-tastic.

I'm not denying that the food is good. I love Lee's Special like no other pizza ...but I never eat there anymore. This restaurant takes the cake in humiliating their guests. I arrived at the restaurant one evening, more than three hourse before they were scheduled to close, on an extremely slow night, and I brought with me a group of friends from out of town. There were four of us total. I myself am 6ft tall and pregnant and my husband and friend are not small people either. So imagine my shock when they insisted on seating us at a booth that barely fit two people and with my belly, I couldn't slide in at all. The center aisle tables were in use and the waiters would not permit us to pull up a chair because it would block the aisle. I politely asked to move to the back room (wich was filled with empty tables) and was abruptly told that they had already "closed" that side of the restaurant for the evening. My husband tried in vain to argue with the wait-staff, explaining that we had been patrons of their restaurant for years, as well as our families and just couldn't fit at the table offered, but the response was heartless and un-caring. We literally had to walk out because they could not accomodate our group with adequate seating. I was so embaressed, I had never felt so huge in my life! I literaly walked away crying.

My husband and I have eaten here a few times. I have had their pasta and found it hot, fresh and yummy. Their Fried chicken was good too, with a nice crisp skin and you could tell they used buttermilk. I like their marinara sauce, which has a strong tomato taste and light flavoring. My husband has enjoyed their pizza and usually orders sausage and cold tomato. I thought their meatballs were ok; they used a little too much breadcrumbs they were on the bland side. They also have some excellent appitizer's which come with carrot and celery sticks which I really liked! The place can seem a little small when you first enter it because of the single row of booths and the large amount of pictures and other flare on the walls. However there are more seats in the back behind the bar. The staff are friendly and the service was quick. I would eat there again but I haven't found anything extraordinary on the menu yet. Its close to where we reside so its just one of several Italian options downtown, its probably the cheapest one, and offers the best pizza, and is a good place to take the kids.

LOVE this pizza, love the antique decor, love that it's on cute Main St.! Great combo, crust so thick two slices will more than do you in We like Frank's Special (combo). Ravioli is pretty good, salads solid, good garlic bread, fried zucchini! Need to head back, but my last visit I encountered an ex with his new "Barbie" girlfriend. I won't let anyone ruin my visit or my appetite next time! :)

No. Well, slightly yes, but mostly no. Once again I find myself eating in an establishment that has more hype generated about it due to its' great location than it truly deserves. There's something to be said for "location, location, location..." because the diproportionate draw cannot be due to anything coming out of the kitchen. I would be magnanimous if I said the crust on the pizza was decent. It was in fact the best part but everything else was either sub par or down right off-putting. The olives on our pizza were chewy and metallic tasting. The sandwiches were boring, sloppily made, ho-hum in flavor and rather expensive. The calamari was super greasy, the salad dressing tasted slightly rancid AND the service was very slow based on the fact that we were sitting at one of only three tables occupied during lunch service. In a world full of pizza joints, this one is can barely tread water.

First time here & couldn't be more pleased. Delicious pizza & delicious garlic bread with cheese. The crust is amazing & the ingredients they use for pizza are fresh & they don't skimp. The bacon we had on our pizza were big pieces! I would def come back, great service to, our waitress always kept up with our refills. Ya it may be a little on the pricey side for some, but for good food it really isn't a big deal. Would come back :)

Fun place. I had driven. He this place for years and we really wanted to go in for a while. A co-worker of mine finally put a dinner together there and I was excited to go. The pizza was yummy. It was such a mellow crowd and the servers were very friendly. Like everything else in Pleasanton they don't stay open too late but the staff was friendly as we finished up.

I've literally been coming here for the past 20 years! Love this place, although my review can only attest to the pizza as unfortunately I have not tried the other menu items. I've had pizza in SF, Chicago, New York, and to this day, 90's has my favorite pizza. What makes it is the crust - Gay 90s pizza has the most delicious crust I've ever had. The pizza is loaded with cheese, which makes getting your slice a fun challenge. I can't say anything bad, after 20 years I've never been disappointed. That's consistency!

Comfy atmosphere, corky wall decorations. They have 5-6 beers on tap, nothing special. Decent sized wine list. One TV that always is playing sports, which is a plus. The salad was small but it had all the fixings. Plus they add a huge pour bowl of dressing on the side. Meatball sandwich was exceptional, they give you a side of marinara that you can add on. The servers are nice, all female from what I can tell. A little raspy in the voice, which meshes well with this place's overall atmosphere. Overall, this place is good.

I feel slightly guilty giving a Pleasanton institution only 2 stars, but it really is the definition of 'Meh. I've experienced better.' The ambiance is pleasant enough, although seating is a bit tight. The menu is very standard pizzeria - fried appetizers, salads, and then pies. Without going into the non-descript appetizers, the pies themselves are just a bit of a let down. These are the super thick and bready, chewy crust pizzas. Maybe in today's pizza space, where everyone's trying to do something artisanal or haute-cuisine, it's good to have an old school generic American pizzeria. But the problem is, other than being an independent and local pizzeria, I'd be hard pressed to differentiate these pies from the mass market stuff that chains like Round Table down the street are peddling. Gay Nineties goes way heavy on the bread and the ingredients don't taste fresh - kind of like the chain pizzerias. Service is on the slow side, although very friendly. Our waitress was incredibly personable. Since we arrived after lunch, it was seat ourselves. But it took forever for anyone to take our orders and then even longer for our pies to arrive (we had long since finished our shared salad bowl). Portions and prices were fair for what we ordered. I was certainly disappointed after having spent my high school years in Pleasanton and never visiting. Clearly they have their niche and they've been successful for years so I the most accurate and fair description I have for my visit to Gay Nineties is unmemorable.

Poor service (unless you are a local and frequent, then the staff goes out if their way for you), pizza is boring and cheese slides right off the slice, and salad is lacking creativity. I wish I could get a refund; we are not returning here.

I was just ripped-off. I picked up a pizza and salad to go on my way home from work since it has moderately good Yelp reviews. I experienced poor customer service (I observed the staff avoids you if you are not a frequent customer), the pizza is mediocre, and the $9 Cesar salad is just lettuce and croutons. I advise you try another pizza place.

Visited here in September after reading some reviews online. We shared pizza and wings. Both were delicious . I loved the look of the restaurant , old fashioned, cool, retro feel . Wait staff were really nice. We sat inside , outside was packed and we were too hungry to wait ! Really enjoyed our meal - cheap and cheerful and we highly recommend.

Love this place. Have been going since I was a little kid. Order your dough extra thick and dip it in ranch. No one has crust like this place. It is truly gourmet.

So this is my third time at Gay Nineties and each time I've had an issue with the service, but the food has always been good so I've come back. This last visit though, was dreadful. We walked in on a Friday night, and lucky for us there was no wait. Unfortunately there was no room on their cute little patio so we sat inside, but it was pretty quiet at the time, so I thought we would enjoy it. We sat down and about 10 min later we were asked if we were ready for drinks. Since it was a terribly hot day, I was really thirsty and thought this was a long wait, but when the waiter returned with the drinks I forgot about how long that took. We needed a little extra time to decide what we wanted to eat, but the waitress never came back after we asked for more time. Finally, 25 min later we had to flag her down for more drinks and to order. Another 15 min, no refills. Needed to flag another waiter down. Another 25 min, I was about to kill someone I was so hungry and thirsty. Honestly at this point, I would've walked out if I didn't have out of town guests with me. I found myself apologizing to them for the terrible service, after I had recommended the food so highly. Finally, our food comes out (we have to ask for more refills) and the pizza is cold. The quality was not the same as I remembered, and everyone seemed disappointed. I personally didn't want to leave much of a tip seeing as how I had to request a refill on my drinks and I didn't receive any update on my meal despite the long wait, but my guests were very nice and decent tip anyway. We finally left to go get more drinks because we couldn't find anyone to refill our drinks one last time and I was sick of trying to flag down anyone who worked there. Long story short, we won't be back. Pizza Hut had better pizza and better service.

I love this place. My family and I have only been there a few times, but it's a spot worth keeping in your short list of "go to" places. The staff is very friendly, and extremely casual. If you're looking for something along the lines of SF style of pretentiousness, then this isn't your place. The food is legit. It's not over-the-top with eclectic ingredients... No truffle oil and fish eggs here. We've had the pasta, pizza, and veal parmesan. Three thumbs up. Yes. Three. Go there, have some grub, enjoy the atmosphere.

LOVE the pizza. On point all of the time. Sometimes the service is great, other times its plain awful.

After reading most of the reviews for this place. My husband and I decided to try it out. It's too bad we didn't listen to what the other negative reviews wrote. We walked in, and saw the place looking like a DUNGEON with four people talking and eating on their tables. This place is RUSTIC. Really nothing appealing. Although we were not too impressed of the place alone, we decided to stay. First thing that annoyed us....took waiter a good 15 minutes to take our order. Once we waited for our food took another 1/2 hour to get it. It really puzzled us how it took so long when there weren't much customers inside. What is surprising that we were not aware is that once our food was served. That would be last time we saw the waiter. Throughout the time we were eating, we NEVER saw the waiter check on us. We finished eating 15 minutes . Then sat there wondering if waiter would ever show up since it had been 30 minutes since we last saw her. After waiting 40 minutes and no waiter to be seen. I had to get up and go to the back to finally ask to get our check and box for our food. Then another thing shocked us. After seeing our bill , we were quite surprised how pricey it was for a lunch of 2 on a simple pizza dish and a sandwich. My husband's sandwich came with a salad that to be very honest, the salad looked like it has been sitting for weeks. Just looked STALE. The chicken sandwich looked and tasted like a 10 years old could probably make a better sandwich. We have been to many pizza restaurants in our life. But even with some pricey place we didn't complain because it came with EXCELLENT service. But when you have a RUSTIC , DUNGEON setting combine a terrible service it's hard to accept a pricey food . I guess learned our lesson. LISTEN TO YELP NEGATIVE REVIEWS. We highly regret we didn't go with our first choice at Amici's. Would have enjoyed much better food and service. SERVICE HERE IS ALSO AS RUSTIC AS THE RESTAURANT ITSELF : (

My mom really wanted to try the pizza here after seeing it in the food network. I didn't find anything special about their pies. The crust was on the thicker side, chewy, and very filling. The take out service is slow and inattentive. Stood there waiting for someone to attend to me while my pie was sitting on the counter getting cold. Probably wouldn't make an effort to return again.

Went here earlier this week. We were seated quickly but that was the best it was going to get. It was hot so they seated us in the back. (yes, there is more seating in the back.) Our waiter got us our waters & menus & said that he would be back to take our orders... yeah, that didn't happen. I was hungry so I didn't bs when it came to wanting to know what to order. I was ready right off of the bat! An employee walked by & asked us if we've been help & when we told him we weren't he got someone in a hurry. The atmosphere is like a tavern mixed with Applebee's & when I say Applebee's I mean with all the memoralbilia splattered all over the walls. We ordered the special they had going on which was 12 boneless BBQ wings for $7-8. We split the flavors, honey BBQ & regular BBQ. They were okay, nothing too great to rave about. They did give us waaaaay more than 12. We also ordered Frank's Special without onions & olives. When we got our pizza it was warm, it wasn't cold but when we looked at the other tables next to us, their pizza was STEAMING it was so hot. All in all, it was alright. We tried this place on a count of all the recommendations by people but I think I would make a pass for it if I'm ever in Pleasonton again.

Gay Nineties is a dated restaurant stuck in the 90's. (The TV's and the decor). I felt like the quality of food was very poor for the price and found the servers extremely un-knowledgeable. When asking what came on the sandwiches, the server blatantly stated "whatever you want." The restaurant is not welcoming and there is no host person at the door waiting to seat people. Management needs to review and revise their management and procedures.

  • Sheryl R.

If I had to choose a pizza joint, Gay Ninties would be one of my top 2. You heard me....top 2!! Next to this place is Zachary's. I'll let you make the decision on who's 1st because I can't. Be sure to ask for honey and butter to dip pizza crust. (Be sure to ask for thick crust pizza) Mmmmmm....mmmmm....goooood!:)

Let's start off with the pizza, great quality and great taste! They also have a decent amount of beers on tap. They have a lot of outdoor seating which can also be heated, and a decent amount of inside seating. The staff here is excellent very fast and friendly service, you're not sitting around waiting for 15 minutes for a thing of ranch! Literally have it out a minute or two later. Even on a busy Friday night! This will def become a regular spot. They also have a tv inside that had some baseball going when we walked in! I hope you find this joint as good as I did!

Love the service. Had the first gay nineties pizza today, we the Franks Special and let me tell you it melts n your mouth.nthe best by far. Thick cuts of realbham, not the thin ones, thick chunks of sausage, pepperoni and salami. Just the right amount of toppings. Oh yeah the waitress was so cool she gave Ranch dressing to dip our thick crust in and it was sooo good.

This is the best pizza in the area with the best service. Connor, the manager, and his staff are always pleasant and so kind. The atmosphere is awesome and vintage decor is fun. It's a mini Pleasanton history lesson while eating pizza!

Management and service is great. I recommend this place to anybody who lives in or is visiting Pleasanton. It is a family environment and the pizza is amazing. Some days, I order the pesto, cheese ravioli. Other days, I order a large pepperoni, onion, garlic and pesto with regular pizza sauce. I am actually trying to have it added to the menu. Order it and post how good it is in hopes of it actually making it to the next print. I've been going here since I was a kid and can't go more than a few days without going back.

By far the best pizza place around town. The pizza tastes exactly the same every time. When you're in the mood for some good thick crust pizza, Gay 90s is the place to go. Every Server her is extremely friendly and they always welcome you with a big smile. The inside of gay 90s is very creative with all the license plates and old signs of the town. I'm a regular here and I love this place.

I have been coming here for over 25 years - how old am I!? Anyway, always a good experience. Huge portions, friendly servers, good food. I like to sit outdoors on the patio, or better yet, along the quiet sidewalk. Dog friendly.

We were seated outside quickly. The noise level inside was high but outside was pleasant. The waiter came quickly to take our order. The pizza was excellent and the salad was good as well. Based on a comment I had read here, I asked about beer sizes. (They are still 10 oz. so I went for a half pitcher). My one complaint was that it took a long time to get our pizza. We arrived at 7PM with tickets to a show at 8PM. We thought it was enough time. To be fair, it was very busy that night, but we could only eat a slice each and had to take the rest in a box. But the pizza was quick and the servers were as fast as possible. I will be order a to go in the future.

This place has a real small town feel. The tv is still from the 90's so don't come here hoping to watch sports in HD. However the decor on the walls kept me entertained. My girlfriend ordered the lasagna, which was really cheesy and drenched in sauce. I ordered the chicken sandwich, which tasted sort of plain so I had a side of marinara sauce for extra flavor. I supposed we should of ordered pizza... On a positive note...they serve a good selection of beers and allow for a single glass, half pitchers, and full pitchers.

The meals were a little pricey but very good. Im a little disappointed when I got there & ordered a coffee. We were on a road trip and coffee was so needed. The waiter first said hes making new coffee than comes out and says they're sorry but they ran out of coffee so my husband went over to Star Bucks and brought me one over. I told the waiter it was my husbands birthday so he brought out a small piece of icecream cake and charged me $7.95 for it. Not good, especially after the coffee incident. this review went to the wrong place. It was meant for Johnny Garlics in Dublin.

Well, I gave this place and another chance and was disappointed again. Came her on Mother's Day with my son. We sat out on the patio, nothing special there. I was really looking forward to a great pasta lunch and ordered the half/half pasta. I ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and ravioli with cheese. The spaghetti was lacking in meat and the sauce was bland and runny. The ravioli tasted like it had been frozen. I am surprised this place is still in business. The décor and furniture are outdated. Not giving this place a 3rd chance. Go somewhere else, save your money.

I've been eating pizza here for as long as I can remember. I now live in Fresno, CA and still come back JUST for pizza every so often (and of course, to visit the grandparents ;)) The pizza is just as wonderful as I remember Contrary to the other reviews, I've never had bad service. Slow service maybe, but people have always been really friendly and that's okay for me. Maybe because a lot of the time I order the pizzas from here to-go, so I don't have to deal with it as much. The atmosphere is pretty cool, there's a nice little outside seating area where you can hangout and inside there's a lot of randomness on the walls to keep your wandering eyes occupied. I remember thinking everything was SO awesome as a kid. Definitely a cool place to go with a group, especially if you aren't in a rush!

I generally wait for 2 trips somewhere before I "Yelp" them. Well a week or so ago when I brought my wife here for the first time I couldn't help to talk this place up. I had a really good pizza there a while back and we ventured down to try it together. Garlic Bread with Cheese was soggy. She had Frank's Special on one half and liked it, not the best pizza she's ever had. I had Hawaiian on my half... I've also had better. I don't think we're planning on coming back. There are several lanesplitter locations around our neck of the woods so we can't justify driving that far for "meh" pizza again.

Sourdough crust and homemade ranch dressing. What else really needs to be said? I have never been disapointed coming here. The staff is always friendly and timely, the crust is always crisp and I really enjoy the decore in the front room being in the fashion of the... well gay 90's They also have a bit of history being located in a 1864 building that was one of the first commercial buildings in town. It used to be a Wells Fargo with a Brothel upstairs and some people even claim it is haunted!

I picked up a pizza here just once and it wasn't that great. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but nothing right with it either. The restaurant did look fun though and I'm sure if I had a bunch of toddlers and kids I would appreciate the traditional pizzeria feel and casual atmosphere.

So we finally gave Gay 90's a try. And while the ambiance is fantastic, the pizza leaves a lot to be desired. Seating was rather quick, even though it looked packed on a Friday evening. The atmosphere is very pub-like. It can get loud and you might have to scream from across the table to chat. All in all, something I could relate too and have fun. Their menu is pretty standard. A mix of Pizzas, sandwiches, pasta, salads and soups. The alcohol menu is rather limited. I didn't see any cocktails on the list. But they do have a wide selection of wines and beers. We ordered the house white zin and a beer. The white zin was really good. I could drown in the entire bottle good. We ordered the sauteed button mushrooms, a tortellini in creamy pesto sauce and a jalapeno- pepperoni pizza. For a pizza place, I definitely agree with my fellow reviewer that their pasta is kickass. Their pizza sauce was very runny and the pepperoni was super greasy. Not my kinda pizza. The pasta was awesome, with the creamy sauce being just the right amount of creamy. Didn't feel heavy at all. And the mushrooms took the cake for me. Perfectly cooked and tasted phenomenal. However, they could do without the runny sauce it comes in. The service was strictly OKAY. I have experienced better. We felt like we were being rushed a little. The price was a little on the higher side. But it is Main St. Pleasanton. You can't expect things to be cheap. Set out with atleast $60 in your pocket for 2 people. Will we return? If every other pizza place shuts down!

I ordered a cheese pizza and a Wayne's World specialty pizza from this place for delivery. The pizzas were good, but when the Wayne's World pizza was delivered, all of the toppings were on one side, as if the pizza had been severely tilted to one side. I ordered online and I can only think that maybe the guy didn't like his tip. I don't know. But when he handed the pizza to me, it was obvious one side of the cardboard box was wet, so he knew what he was doing. The pizza also didn't come with the cheese and chili flakes packets pizzas are usually delivered with, another major bummer for me because I like the spice,

I absolutely love this place! their pizza is delicious and like no other pizza i have had. I've been to the original rays in new york and been to chicago and had deep dish this is a different type of pie in my opinion! it cannot be compared to round table or zacharys( aka nothing but tomato halves fro your topping) as they are different types of pizza . its a great place to eat with a cool atmosphere and nice staff. and i love the recipes and quality has never changed they don't rob of stuff you here and there like the chains do. I will actually be there tonight for dinner with my fiance after work. Keep it up Gay Nineties!!

Most expensive pizza I've ever purchased... And do worth every penny! I can't wait to go back. Their pepperoni and italian sausage are to die for. They just get them from a real italian deli. Good sauce, quality cheese and the crust is cooked to perfection. Super good hot wings too,

This place has really good pizza. It's kinda rustic inside and has long tables for groups. The pizza is one of the best we have ever had. They make their own dough and pile the toppings on! Kid friendly so it's great for the family. You won't be disappointed.

We ordered the wrong thing. Everyone has told us how great the pizza is- but we had pizza last night. The Caesar salad was okay. Certainly a generous size but they put hot chicken right off the grill on top of the dressed lettuce. Hot chicken - cold lettuce = weird salad. The flavor of the dressing was nice. My husband had sausage and marinara sauce on spaghetti. And he thought it was very good - it came with two sausages on the side. The warm French bread was nice -i'm afraid I wasn't a fan of the garlic bread. It was really more paprika bread just as our server said it was. Our server by the way was awesome. He was quick with the refills and very attentive. Will be back another time for pizza.

The atmosphere is good...they have a lot of old-style decor, and it's loud, well attended and bustling. The staff is friendly and they provide crayons and coloring book pages for kids. The pizza, however, was a bit pricey ($20 for a medium pepperoni), and very average. The "full meal" for the entrees is a decent deal (you get a salad/soup, entree, and dessert for about $18). The salad was decent, with iceberg lettuce, cheese and a peppercini. I got lasagna. The sauce was thin, the noodles were hard, and was generally not very tasty. I only finished about a third of it. My wife got the eggplant parmesan and only ate about half of it, saying it was bland. Both boys liked the pizza. The best part of it was the crust. Neither boy liked the bread pudding dessert though, and I really didn't either. I thought bread pudding was warm? Oh well...we like trying all the Pleasanton spots...still looking for our favorite!

Pizza was a bowl of un-melted crap. You could see the individual cheese strips. Threw it onto a hot barbecue when I got home. Fixed it. After I cooked it, the pizza was awesome! I don't know why they are afraid of heat. Cook the damn pie! They load it up, and then undercook it. It's a great take-n-bake pizza.

So disappointed. Went here last night with my husband and kids. First, an older lady who does the seating totally ignored us and took the party that came after us first. Then when it was our turn, she flagged us from afar to sit at a booth and when we sat, the table wasn't ready yet. Table was so sticky and cups were still there. She was really rude. Our waitress was nice I must say. She was very appolegetic.

This is legitimately the best pizza in the Tri Valley. It's got the most insanely fresh and fluffy crust that perimeters a cheesy gooey pie. You have to fork-and-knife it until the piece is manageable enough to pick up, but it's crazy good. I've been coming here since I was a little kid and I have never been disappointed by the quality. There's historic Ptown memorabilia all over the walls that really makes it fun while you're waiting for your food. There are a bunch of signs that are super old that say Bernal or Kottingers Barn--- guess you'd have to be a true Ptowner for that to mean anything to you lol! Definitely my favorite place to eat in downtown Pleasanton. In the summer, the patio is prime for al fresco dining.

Nice large outdoor seating, perfect for bringing your dog. Large bar and dining area inside with rustic 1890 feel. Good old fashion pizza, nice crust, a bit greasy, large salads. All in all your basic small town pizzaria.

WOW what a great afternoon! We are in town to see the Christmas Parade and decide to eat early so our daughter suggested Gay Nineties....what a great meal, I had minestrone soup with awesome garlic bread, which was suggested by our awesome waiter, Matt. He was so very knowledgeable about the Gay Nineties he made some meal suggestions and really did a great job! My husband...the "pasta" guy ordered Jambalaya and it came over pasta..he really thought it was delicious. Our daughter had giant raviolis and the kids had pizza...The cook deserves a thumbs-up on his food. Everyone enjoyed their choice. We even has leftovers which will be lunch today!!! Can't go wrong here my friends this is our kinda of place!

Old fashioned way to making pizza, which to me is the best. Very light and crunchy thin crust layered and layered by fresh toppings. My favorite is the Frank's Special and the Italian sausage is the star.

Was in Pleasanton doing some wine tasting with my husband, found this place via Yelp and saw the pics of the pizza and decided to give it a try. Cute interior; old-timey decor and a jukebox. Really friendly staff. We decided to try the spinach salad and our waitress recommended the poppy seed dressing and it did not disappoint. At first when the salad came, we were like "whoa, that's huge!", but whaddya know... we finished it. It was really good and the dressing was perfect. We also ordered a medium pizza with pepperoni, jalapenos, and onions. It came out right after we finished our salad, and it tasted just as good as it looked. It had this thick crust that was crunchy on the outside, but soft and chewy inside. If you like big crusts (which I do), this is for you. We ate way too much, but it was hard to stop. (We ate the whole pizza -- 3 pieces for me, 5 for my husband!) Actually, I kind of wish I had some right now. We will definitely go back there the next time we're in the area.

Customer service is great for takeout. Connor usually answers the phone and greets you like a welcome friend. The pizza is thick and delicious - we get half combo and half veggie and my carnivore husband frequently sneaks slices of the veggie because it is so substantial and yummy! I love the aroma of the pizza in my car the next morning - makes me ready for leftovers!

After wine tasting all day, what a nice ended with pizza.. The Wayne's world pizza was very good, we added chicken to it.. Then we had a all meat pizza, I called that one a heart attack pizza. My friends order a cob salad so it didn't look to bad eating all that pizza LOL!!

I can't believe such a delicious and unique eatery has only 3.5 stars! This place is awesome! Best fried zucchini around. The pizza is, I think, one of the best I've eaten in over a year. And it's such a unique and quaint little restaurant, especially in Pleasanton's artsy fartsy, wine drinking, boutique downtown.

I am really disappointed with our level of service last night. Hence, the two star rating. We arrived at 7:25pm and waited to be seated. There was another party (2 people) in front of us and the hostess seated them first; she clearly saw us standing behind them. We waited for 5 minutes before she returned. There were lots of open seating in the front of the restaurant and we asked for the first available table. The hostess then leaves for a brief minute to check on something and then returns to escort us to the last booth (next to the ladies restroom). Ewww! We waited 15 minutes for a server to take our order AFTER we flagged down the hostess. Her response was, "I told him but it's very noisy here so he must not have heard me." Ok, I understand (I said to myself). The server finally arrived and asked are you ready to order? I told him that we've waited for 15 minutes and yes, we were ready to order. His response was, "the hostess just told me. I didn't know." Ok, I understand (I said to myself). We ordered a Frank's special, zucchini sticks, and a pitcher of soda. The server brought the soda out in minutes. The zucchini sticks arrived a few minutes later. It was delicious! After finishing up our appetizers, we waited and waited. Finally about 25 minutes later; the pizza was delivered to our table by another server. NOTE: The pizza was delicious but was not piping hot so it must have sat on the counter before someone noticed to bring it to our table. Meanwhile, our server was nowhere in sight. I finally saw him on the other side of the restaurant and I flagged him down...(yes, with both my hands up in the air). He quickly came to our table and we asked for our check, a box for the leftover pizza and bread pudding "to go". He took the pizza to "box up" and then we waited and waited. Yes, that's right. We waited for another 15 minutes. FINALLY, Our server came out from the back room and slapped his forehead..."Oh my god I'm so sorry...I forgot." Really? You forgot about us AGAIN. I walked over to the register and said please just give me my bill. He kept apologizing but the damage was already done. We are not coming back to this place again for a very long time. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Do not sit by booth next to the ladies restroom..... We tried to flag a lady server for help but she blew me off and two other servers walked right by our table and did not even blink an eye. Management needs to have a staff meeting and review basic customer service policy.

Great pizza, great service, great location. It is an all around great place to go. I enjoy going here with a group, the pizza is wonderful and there is a nice outdoor patio you can sit on. There is something about the cheese on the pizza that just can't be described, it is so great!!!!!!! The ingredients are always fresh and the service is good as well. The waiters and waitresses are always willing to help you out with anything. I suggest the maui pizza and the cheesy garlic bread! One downfall, they have pepsi not coke AH!

NOPE! The pizza was a throw back to 1984 Pizza Hut pizza. The beer tasted flat and the ranch was tart. The patio and atmosphere saves this place.

If ghosts like it too, it must be decent. I can't say the pizza was too memorable, though the crust was chewy and substantive, and the pizza itself was tasty at the time. Their Bud Light tasted a little sweet... why? Was it because I was already drunk when I went there? But sweet beer never hurts anyone, and still gets the job done. I do remember thinking it was awesome that they have "half pitcher", because the party I was with can't drink even if their lives depend on it. The waiters are friendly, and the place is intimate (meaning a little cramped). In the dim light I could hardly tell if the person I was speaking with was a real person or if that was one of the ghosts that lingered in the pizza parlor.

I've dropped some serious coinage at Gay Nineties and its for one reason only: It's one of the best pizza joints in the Tri-Valley area! Let the reader take note: Most of the food in the Tri-valley (Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, San Ramon) is anything but exceptional! However, Gay Nineties knows how to make a decent pie! I purchased several of them for my last group outing and everyone raved (and thanked me since I could have gone the way of Dominos) about the pies. One person even told me that they were "dreaming about Gay Nineties pies!" Can you dig that? Let the buyer beware: check your order to be sure you get everything! I got messed over the last time I was here. While I do not believe it was intentional (a very friendly staff here) they forgot to give me 20 soft drinks and I missed it because they were loading my car with food (I was feeding a crew of twenty). Bottom line, if you find yourself in Pleasanton and want pizza, this should be your first choice!

I came here with my sister and my boyfriend because my sister had heard about this place and the ghost that it apparently houses. So my curiosity got the best of me and I said let's do it! The food was amazing! The sauce that they used on the pizza was really different, but in a good way. I ordered alfredo pasta and it was delish!! Also the calamari was great! Our server was awesome, I really wish I hadn't forgotten his name. I love the way the place is set- up on the inside. It's totally unique. I was sitting under the big mirror that apparently had the word "boo!" etched into it by the resident ghost. Hahah. It was a pretty neat experience. The food was good! Next time I wanna try sitting outside.. It looked so nice out there!

I don't like it, but since I first went there in 1960 or so, will have to admit that they must be doing something right. Way back then, it was about the only place local teens could hang out as there were plenty of bars in Pleasanton, but that was about it. So, we ate a lot of pizza, like it or not. When I was there last year the pizza was still greasy and heavy. I blame this place for the fact that I don't really like pizza. I know, it's ridiculous, but guess I just fail to understand pizza's popularity as it tends to be expensive, considering what it is. Once in a while you get a really good one, with real cheese, lots of vegetables and nonlethal meat toppings, but they are few and far between in my experience.

Despite the fact that every time I've been here, I've had to wait a long time for the food to come out, I think their pizzas are made well (huge, fresh, great crust) and their pastas are consistently nummy. They're moderately priced - you pretty much get what you pay for. The atmosphere is extremely casual and laid back, with interesting vintage decor. It's on main street, but they've got their own small parking lot behind the restaurant so you won't have to park on the street unless their little lot is full. I would come back again for sure, especially if I'm meeting with an old friend or on a business lunch where waiting a while isn't an inconvenience.

If there's one thing I enjoy, it's pizza. The pizza was good. We got the All Meat. It was cheesy and meaty, just like the Gay Nineties. We also ordered the BBQ Chicken, although I didnt eat it, heard it wasn't all that. They have a parking lot around the back, or street parking. We sat outdoors. Service was good, our drinks were refilled, menus were given, pizza was good.

Best pizza in Pleasanton. Really thick pizzas that will fill you up in just a couple of slices. Outdoor dining is nice when the weather is good, but it can get loud and cramped inside the main restaurant. Main gripe most people have is with the pricing. Pretty expensive for pizza and sides (you'll spend $35 for a large 1-topping and two side salads). Biggest issue I have is that they charge a $1 or so for a side of ranch dressing, because it is "house made". But if you got the cash, it's worth checking out. Located in downtown Pleasanton it is fairly easy to get to.

The pizza has been good every time I've come here. Their ranch is really good as well. I'm not sure what they put in it but with the Wayne's World Pizza, it's delicious. Service is okay with the servers being really friendly. I suggest eating here rather then taking it to go.

This is why I love Gay Nineties..... We always order the veggie pizza. The veggies are fresh and still slightly crisp, but the thing that blows me away is the high quality mozzarella they use... NO GREASE whatsoever! All you taste is those amazing veggies, the REAL cheese, tasty sauce, and decent dough. This is my fav veggie pizza, hands down. I would prolly like their other pizzas too, but this is the one I get end up getting all the time. Agree with other reviewers that I would like a better wine list!! The wait here can be bad, so we usually go at an off time... like late lunch/early dinner.

OMG-- the sausage sandwich!! Where ever they get this sausage it is amazing!! You can taste the caraway seeds but they are not over powering.. and the marinara sauce was perfect for the sandwich. We always go for the pizza- the crust is just too yummy but the sandwich called my name. Our only problem is all the kitzy stuff on the walls and shelves, also the iced tea was instant or old. Not too yummy, but other than that we loved it!

This is the first time that I have taken a slice of pizza and left the rest on the table. The crust was terrible and there was a lot of grease. It's also not cheap. I was a bit concerned when we were the only people in the restaurant. Now I know why.

My wife's family has been coming here for years and have raved about how good the pizza is, they were right. Delicious crust and they don't skimp on the toppings. We ordered salads and they gave us more than enough dressing, a nice change from places that give you a little cup and make you ask for more. Our server, Tiffany, was just a joy. It was her first day on the job but you would never have known it. The atmosphere is fun and inviting. I'm really wishing e had one close to our home in Huntington Beach. We will come back for sure next time we visit Pleasanton.

Ok , I've been a fan of the place since +/- 1968. Last night I was in for some take out. I was to be eating solo this night, so really did not want a whole $21. pizza. I really wanted a calzone w/ ham, pepperoni, and salami. They did not have calzones so I asked for if I could add pepperoni , and salami to their ham & mozzarella hot sub. NO! I add sausage to my favorite omelet at Jim's. I think you can even add toppings to a pizza. Not the sandwiches. The server mentioned something about the ingredients being pre-portioned or something? I was very surprised. Is this Applebees? WellI ended up w/ a $21. pizza. Which was very good.

It was a rainy day, there's some connection with rainy days and pizza. The sounds of the pouring rain provides sudden cravings to chomp down that flat bread of meaty saucy crust. What didn't occur to me was of all the days I picked to go to downtown P-town, I selected a day Main Street was barricaded for a parade - rain or shine, it's the Veteran's day parade on Main street. Took a long detour to go back around to get to Abbie street, found parking and went to gay nineties. Aha - a seat by the window. We were able to duck away from the crowd and rain and watch the parade go by while eating our pizza. The decor is captivating, street signs from local Pleasanton streets, old photos and news articles, dark lighting, wood walls, old bottles, I couldn't help but to scope out all the collections and imagine what it was like with a population of 4,000 people in Pleasanton. What did Pleasanton look like? A brothel was above where I sat and I'm now eating my Maui pizza with thick crust and fried zucchini and ranch underneath where all the action happened. They don't skimp on toppings on the pizza and the portions are pretty big for the fried zucchinis. You could tell that they've tried their own food before deciding to put it on the menu, they gave a big cup of ranch to go with the fried zucchinis, good o' plenty for the big cuts of zucchini and I can dip, double dip, triple dunk, even Kobe Bryant can't dunk enough times in this pool of ranch to empty it. Although I loved the historical feel of the restaurant, the pizza itself was nothing extraordinary that would make me crave for it. Maybe it was a bad choice of Maui's ham and pineapple to begin with or maybe it was the lack sauce. Tried it with the thick crust, but there was not kick to the bread crust. Something is missing. It has a bar area, it's definitely a cool place to hang out with your buds, have a few beers, eat some appetizers, and just downright enjoy the company in front of their TV at the bar. Service was good, topped off the drinks before we were completely empty, checked in on us, and very timely all around. Had to try it at least once and it's a perfect location to get a glimpse of main street to watch parades go by without having to stand outside.

Excellent pizza! Great atmosphere. Located in a historical building. Not a full bar -- limited selection of beer and few wine choices (given the fact it is located in the Livermore Wine Valley). This review is about the food so I gave a rating of "5" (woohoo!). Only one other pizza place in the east bay is as good......any guesses???? 3/17/2012

My parents used to bring me here a lot when I was younger, I remember it being a fun environment with good pizza. Neither of us had been in years. But I work right around the corner and had just gotten off work, so my boyfriend and I figured we would give it a shot. We walked in and saw a sign that said to wait to be seated, so we did, for like 10 minutes while multiple workers walked by us without a glance nor a "one moment please", nothing, it wasn't even busy. We eventually got seated and our waitress, an older woman, seemed to want to rush us through ordering, and seemed annoyed that we weren't ready to order right off the bat. Maybe if we had been seated quicker, she wouldn't have needed to rush us so much. But anyways, we ordered a meatball sandwich and an italian sausage sandwich. The server asked me if I wanted soup or salad. I asked what kind of soup they had, she rolled her eyes and stated simply "Minestrone". Well, I guess I'll take the minestrone then, obviously a very hard decision. My boyfriend asked what kind of salad they had. She responded with "Salad"... really? Not caesar, ranch, or vinaigrette, just "Salad." We could not find the kinds of soup and salad they offer on the menu anywhere, so I figured this is a reasonable thing to ask, obviously the waitress felt differently. This just about ruined it all for me. I always make an effort to be as nice as possible to waiters because they control whether or not there is spit in my food, so I was confused by the attitude; I'm not sure if we rubbed her the wrong way, that is just her personality, or maybe she assumed that because we're younger we wouldn't tip her, I don't know. We got our food, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, definitely wasn't worth the attitude we had to deal with to get it. I guess that is what you get when you purchase a sandwich from a pizza parlor. A few minutes after we got our food, the waitress brought a check and to-go boxes, but lets be clear - we didn't ask for either of them. So she obviously wanted us to leave, but there were tons of other people still there and they were open till 10pm, another 45 minutes. I walk past the restaurant after work all the time and often see people there after close, but she obviously wanted us out. So we left, and will not be back.

A few of us on our way to a multi-year class reunion for Amador high School stopped by for dinner. We had a large sausage pizza and it seems the recipe has not changed. (That's a good thing.) Service was fine, pizza was excellent and the patio ambiance was just right for a pizza dinner. No negative comments. What so ever.

I've been coming here since I was a little kid...I used to live up the way on Abbie Street. The pizza is good, they pile on the ingredients. I'm not a big crust fan...so I can't really judge on that since I usually just leave it on my plate. The two sausage appetizers are great, we always get them whenever we eat here. The garlic bread is also really good. The service can be hit or miss...but for the most part, it's good. The patio is a great place to sit on a summer evening. It can be a little pricy, especially if you create your own pizza. But if you're looking for some great pizza in the Tri-Valley, then this is the place to come to.

So sorry to contradict the all the glowing assessments of Gay Nineties Pizza but the record needs to be set straight here regarding their crust Everyone raved about their thick crust & you see, I'm a thick crust kind of girl, so I'm thinking heccccck yeah! But these reviews are deceiving my friends! And so are the posted pics! There is NO THICK CRUST!! Oh, the outer rim is thick, I'll give them that but the *entire* crust is NOT. It's thin to the point of being paper-fine, floppy, & all kinds of soggy.... soggy to the point of almost triggering my gag reflex We had ordered 3 pies - Pesto & Meat lovers on the "thick crust" and a Veggie on the "thin crust". Everyone had the same reaction And for over $60, that's a lot of disappointment Their thin crust just means the outer rim is thin but the middle part was the same soggy, floppiness Finding the silver lining here, the bready outer rim was very tasty - they baked garlic into the bread & it was salty & garlicy & good If you could make the whole crust this way, I'd be a fan But as of now, won't be back....

I have dreams about Cheese Pizza from Gay 90s. Usually when I get pizza I love getting all sorts of fancy toppings...but this is the only place where a plain CHEESE PIZZA will get the job done. So cheesy. So delicious. And the crust? It's perfect.

This place is good. It deserves more than an "okay", but I can't bring myself to give it more than three stars. The food is really quite tasty - if you aren't feeling pizza, rest assured that you'll find something else on the menu that is equally satisfying. I had to bring two stars down, because my dining-in experiences at Gay Nineties has been dampened by slow, indifferent service or plagued by friends of the younger staff members coming in to visit the establishment by the group and being irritatingly loud, and grossly obnoxious.

We stopped here for a quick bite, and I have to admit it was the name that enticed us. The atmosphere was akin to a bar loaded with character. We sat on the patio, with a great view of the street on a sunny day. The service was friendly and fast. We tried Wayne's World and Lee's Special. The ingredients were plentiful, and the flavors were robust. Each bite was a burst of pizza experience on its own. However, the crust was disappointing. Instead of providing a foundation for the pizza, the crust was tasteless and overwhelmed by the ingredients. It reminded me of stale bread. I would recommend this place based solely on its atmosphere, but pizza connoisseurs might be disappointed.

Gay Nineties has been around FOREVER! If you're familiar with Pleasanton at all - there are some local businesses that have been around for decades. Even 100 years! This is one of them! Why have they been around so long? How can they keep afloat with all of the competition from chains like Pizza Hut and Dominoes? Oh .. cuz they RULE. I've been going to Gay Nineties since as long as I can remember. My Dad has also been going here since as long as he can remember. It's a total Pleasantonian staple. Located right in downtown Pleasanton this spot is central to all that is adorable about this old western town. Expect a longish wait because the pizzas are huge and the crust is thick and tasty. It takes a while to cook these babies! You'll have plenty of time to look around at the memorabilia from decades past. Things like original street signs from Pleasanton roads and population signs from the 50s are hung on the walls. It's quite the spot to come with family or even on a date. This is a must-see if you're in Ptown. (Admit it ... there's not much else to see here anyway!)

Awesome pizza. We typically order the beef & onion and it's always amazing. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because they offer crappy wine and they don't serve hard alcohol. Once that happens I'll add an extra star :0)

Due to all the positive reviews on Yelp about the food, my husband and I decided to try this place out. Boy were we impressed with the pizza! Mmm mmm good! But...as the other reviewers have mentioned, this place is lacking in service. I don't know if the waitstaff was understaffed or just not well organized, but I wouldn't call it a busy nite at the restaurant. Oh who cares...I'll still be back to this place. The pizza is THAT good! Oh and the beer is affordable too!

Absolutely the best pizza in the area (that I've tried). Nice thick crust and fresh toppings. We get it for take out all the time, but its also a cool place to grab dinner with the kids during the summer. They have a nice patio area where you can grab a pitcher of beer and enjoy downtown Pleasanton. Pasta selections are ok, if your kids would rather have pasta than pizza (as our often do). We usually head over to Tully's or Cold Stone right after dinner and enjoy a coffee and get the kids an ice cream.

Love it!!! Love the pizza, love the salads! What is it that makes the salads so good? Beets - good, Mozarella chesse - good, fresh homemade ranch - mmmmm gooooood!! Not looking after your waist line? Better try the fried zuchini! Best part is the yummy ranch! Looking for a great lunch - their sandwiches are to die for. My co-worker and I split the eggplant parm that comes with yummy pasta sauce for dunking, a huge loaf of bread and a huge salad. Between the 2 of us we still can't finish the entire thing! Sweet talk the ladies there and they'll make a yummy chicken parm sandwich that's not on the menu.

This is the best pizza in Pleasanton. I like non-thin pizza, which this is. It's no Mama Celeste party pizza thin crust. Gay doesn't deliver because they know that they are so good that you'll come and get it. The family ceasar salad is also very good, and you should get it beforehand so you'll be less likely to stuff yourself so much on pizza that you make yourself sick. It's that good - you'll hurt yourself. There's great ambiance from the good ol' days, etc, but honestly, I'm too busy eating to pay attention. I don't know how that last reviewer had room for cold stone afterwards.

Fun place and very loud - all the better to drone out the toddler screams emanating from your table or the five other children-laced tables surrounding you on the patio. The pizza is surprisingly tasty. Only area of improvement would be the service - sometimes it can be a tad slow (but always friendly!)...but likely because they are being hammered by the orders from the family of triplets to your left.

The pizza here is the best in town, and we usually get ours to go. Ingredients are fresh, meat not oozing with grease, and crust very tasty. But the staff would just as soon ignore the customer. Also, they just seem to gouge their customers. At one time, they charged for a box for the to-go pizza. We like to order a salad to eat with the pizza and it is outrageously expensive. So although we go back because the pizza is good, I can't say we have a warm fuzzy feeling about this hometown pizza parlor.

Heard nothing but rave reviews from many on Gay 90's so we tried it out a number of months ago. I can't comment on the food because we actually gave up trying to get served on a light Saturday afternoon/evening (place wasn't even 1/5 full). They barked at us when we walked in to seat ourselves, we waited for over 20 minutes to get someone to bring us menus or ask for drinks. We asked multiple times for help and eventually gave up and walked out. A number of their employees saw us walk out and didn't even try to stop us or help. The food may very well be great but this must be an example of a local institution letting its reputation get the best of themselves and letting service suffer. Unfortunately, we were so pissed, that we'll never try the food.

Gay Nineties Pizza Rocks. I have a pretty large family and after random events when we are hungry, we think Pizza! We show up with 10-15 people and normally have a wait - expected - but they at least look like they are trying really hard to accomodate us. I wouldn't say the service is quick, but then again I don't show up anywhere with that many people expecting quick service, just friendly service - which they accomplish.

I hadn't been here in years, and really the last time I had been here was my first time there. When my friends from Georgia were out last month for my wedding we decided to go here for lunch as I was dropping my ring off at Kasaria's one block away to get "re-dipped" in white gold. When we originally told my friends we were going to go to "Gay Nineties" for lunch they thought we were joking and to their surprise and amusement upon arrival they realized we really weren't joking, needless to say a camera phone photo made it to one of their facebook pages shortly there after. We decided on sharing on hawaiian pizza and my other friend got a meatball sub, the pizza was delicious, I hate when places skimp on cheese because I looove cheese and they definitely aren't shy with the cheese here. My friends meatball sub also looked delicious as well and according to her tasted as good as it looked. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Definitely a cool place to stop in for some pizza or other italian delights if your in the Downtown Ptown area.

Pizza is pizza to me, I really have to be wowed in order to give 4+ stars to pizza. This place is not bad! I like that when you walk in, it kind of gives off this whole retro diner vibe, yet also kind of hip and pub-like. Interesting mix. They have other things on their menu, but when I came in today all I had was the Maui Special Pizza, which I split with my friend. We ordered a medium to split, which actually turned out to be a little too much. For two people, a small would definitely be recommended! Hawaiian-type pizzas are always my go-to, and I like that this one wasn't doused in too much red sauce. :-) Service was a little slow, considering it wasn't particularly busy on a Friday night, but it was good and we got to admire the decor. Our server was an older guy, he didn't really say much or give a name, but he did refill our waters, so can't complain! Might come back if I'm in the area again.

Ohhhhhh the memories. Grew up with this place and it was always special as kid. The mrs. was down in the area and was nice enough to bring me some gay 90's. It might be the memories but the pizza still tastes great. Got the pepperoni and the toppings were plentiful. The pizza is a lot of crust and not thin but cooked perfectly. I still love this place.

I just cannot believe it took us so long to finally come here and try it out! My friend, Gabe, checked in here many months ago and was raving about how awesome the food was, so naturally I bookmarked the spot for a dinner date sometime. We were finally able to go very recently. It was a weeknight, not too busy at all! We were seated immediately by a cheerful young lady who was bubbly and just super cool. We ordered the spinach salad. The salads are very adequate, so you can split them between 3-4 people (unless you are just hungry- then go for it). They had many beers on tap including one of our favorites: Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin Sumpin. So clearly the beers were had. The pizza comes in all sorts of styles. If you a vegetarian, do not fear. You can top your pizza with as many toppings as you like ($2.00 for each additional topping after 3, I believe). There are meat toppings for you here as well, carnivores. Everything was good. It isn't the absolute best pizza I have ever had but that was in Italy, so I would say their standards are hard to beat. The pizza here is fresh and really very good. I loved the huge side of ranch that it came with. Just to be a little more fat. Service was great, food was good, beer was crisp. Will definitely be back.

I heard about this place from a couple of friends so I decided to come here when my sorority sister and I wanted to hang out. It's a very casual restaurant with a pub-like atmosphere. We each ordered our own pizza (since I didn't want meat, and wanted to take some back for my parents). I ordered a pizza with fresh tomatoes. I really enjoyed the crust! It was a thick crust that was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. And there was just the right amount of cheese. Best of all, it wasn't greasy. Our waitress was really nice and always had a smile on her face. I'm sure their other entrees are good, but if you're here, you will be missing out if you don't order a pizza.

I am out in Pleasanton 24/7 and haven't ate here in years because of a bad experience 10+ years ago. Needless to say, it might be YEARS again before I try the place. We went there last night during Pleasanton's 1st Wednesday celebration. We arrived at 7:10 and waited 5 minutes to be seated. We were asked if we wanted to sit outside as they said that was the only tables open. We didn't think that would be a problem. However, while walking to the seating outside, there were about 4-6 tables that were dirty that had not been cleaned up yet. We sat down out in the back patio area at 7:15. There were a few other tables that had people sitting at them and they had food and drinks. About 5 minutes after we sat down, another table came out back and sat down next to us. Shortly after they sat down, someone came out to them and took their order, walked right by our table and check on a few other tables. Finally at 7:45, we got up and walked out. No one had acknowledged us in the 30 minutes sitting back there and we only saw an employee once. As we got up and walked out the back of the patio, an employee came running after us telling us we need to pay. Pay?? For what?? We had no water, no drinks, no food. Just the menus still from being seated. I was actually very close to ordering a pizza from another establishment and having it delivered to them to see if the pizza would arrive before an employee. Someone claimed they were short staff. If that is the case, shame on management. They have been around for years and they should know when it is First Wednesday to bring in a few more staff members. Second, if that was the case, someone should have at least acknowledged us or let us know. It doesn't take that long to place a pizza order and drink order. Needless to say, it might be years again before I give this place a try which is to bad because the places on Main St are fun to be at.

This pizza is so good. We ordered pineapple and ham with extra thick crust...it was ridiculously thick. In a good way. I ended up getting some butter so I could eat the crust. It was great as leftovers too.

Nice tick pizzas - love that crust! Service is not always the best though and the pizzas are over priced. But, this was my parents' favorite place when they were high schoolers at Amador, so that says something for this place!

They have great pizzas and great salads. The service is excellent too. The only reason that I gave them four stars instead of five stars is because the pizza was lacking pizza sauce. I like a good amount of pizza sauce on pizza. The pizza sauce on the pizza has a great flavor. I only wish it had more. I could always ask for extra sauce I guess. Nonetheless, it's a great place to go to and the pizza is really good even with the lack of sauce. Plus, the building is known to have a lot of ghost activity and one of the mirrors in the front room has Boo faintly written in several places. We will definitely be back.

I'm not sure what all of these negative reviews are about- every time I've ever been here (which is probably about 30 visits at this point) the foot has been spectacular. Sometimes on a weekday afternoon the service may be a little slow. However, on my last visit during peak dinner time on a Friday night, our server Jack was phenomenal.

I didn't realize the History of this building and how it began selling Pizza until after eating here gayninetiespizza.com interesting beginnings too bad they didn't keep the brothel part going!. I had other Pizza options in the area but I came here because they have a nice outdoor patio that is "Dog Friendly" so for anyone traveling with their DOG this is a good spot to come check out. I will say the pizza was "4-Star-ish good" BUT not without issues, and while the service was very friendly, it was also very slow. 1/2 Maui Special a.k.a. Ham & Pineapple - 1/2 Sausage & Jalapeno - yelp.com/biz_photos/gay-… Looks good! Maui Special a.k.a. Ham & Pineapple - yelp.com/biz_photos/gay-… "The Sourdough crust was Incredible" nice and crunchy, plenty of cheese, ham and pineapple, tastes real good! but I'd prefer a bit more sauce OR it was too thin and watery? I couldn't figure out what the issue was but the CENTER of the pizza was limp and wet yelp.com/biz_photos/gay-… Watery tomato sauce? Cheap Ham? I'm pretty sure it wasn't pineapple juice as it didn't have much/any flavor. But it turned a very good pizza into something I would have sent back if I could have gotten the attention of the waiter!. 1/2 Sausage & Jalapeno - yelp.com/biz_photos/gay-… Plenty of jalapenos could have had just a bit more sausage, plenty of cheese but again the sauce is too thin/not enough.... and the waterlogged limp middle, too bad because the sourdough crust is some good stuff. Service, as I said waiter was real nice, we sat outside so I don't know what was going on inside... maybe understaffed? he was difficult to get a hold of.

Great neighborhood pizza place! All the pizza options give you a good amount of toppings, pizzas are perfectly cooked in between soft inside with a crispy outside. Staff is always helpful. Also has a little addition to Pleasanton's town history (ask about the portrait in the bathroom)

New to the area and was looking for a place close by to eat, wow was I impressed! I sat at the bar and did not wait long at all to be greeted by their kind and welcoming staff. I haven't had raviolis for a while so I decided to give those a try even though I went in craving pizza. My awesome waiter Garret recommended a modification with it and I'm glad he did. Courteous staff and a tasty dish, I'll certainly be back to eat again! ~Chazz

This place is so slow. When we got there they told us it was an hour wait. We check back in 10 minutes and there were 15 open tables. When we sat down, it was an hour till we got served. When the food got here it was ice cold. Boo

Aware this place is a dowtown P-Town institution, but time is passing it by. Pizza is OK, doughy, but hey melted cheese and tomato sauce on warm bread, how bad could it be, right? My beef is at 6pm when most places offer happy hour prices, a 10oz pour of draft IPA is $5.25. Too much. At least pour a pint for that price.

BEST PIZZA AROUND. Its the good thick crust. I like thin wood fire but when I want some crust this is the place. We went with a decent size group 8 total with 3 kids. Will be back soon

When I first moved to pleasanton, I looked around for great restaurants with amazing food. If you're hungry for Italian cuisine or pizza look no further. This place is amazing!! First off the food... The have a decent sized menu, but my review is on the pizza alone. The dough is made from scratch, and is a sourdough. The dough is thick, and delicious! They are not shy on toppings. Overall, the pizza is probably the best I've had here in the east bay, by far. They have tons of seating. Both inside and out. They have a nice wooden patio out back with heaters if needed, plenty of parking. The staff there are all friendly and attentive... This has become my favorite pizza spot.

Several years ago, my friends got a Gay 90's pizza and I ate a couple slices. It was love at first bite. I swore I had never eaten any other pizza like one from Gay 90's. To this day this is still true. My favorite is Hawaiian; it has fresh ingredients and you get those cheese strings I thought only existed in advertisements. The service is good as well. Very chill environment, and really neat signs and posters throughout the restaurant. I wish there were more places like here.

WOW, just WOW. The perfect pizza: lots of toppings, thick and doughy crust with an outer crunch, not too heavy on the sauce, great customer service...what more could you want! I can't think of one thing they need to improve on

I am so glad my group decided to go here after a long day! We were seated quickly and on the patio (per our request). The beer and wine came quickly followed by our apps and then the pizza. The cheesy garlic bread was amazing! The fried zucchini tasted really fresh. The wings were saucy. All were really, really good. We ordered 4 pizzas but I only remember the Wayne's World. So good! The feta was not overwhelming and the pesto made it delicious. We asked for ranch and received a huge bowl which worked out perfectly because there were 11 adults. We received really good service which made the meal much more enjoyable. We'll definitely be back!

First time here! This is the best pizza I've ever had! Unique atmosphere and decor! staff is so friendly and helpful since it was our first time here! The pizza, is perfect thick crust with good amount of toppings. We got a small for two of us and it was the perfect size, with some left over! The only down side, is that took a really long time to get our pizza, overall is awesome will definitely be back and recommend to everyone!

Living in PTown for a long time, but never came here because the name sounded so weird that we assumed it was most likely not kid friendly. However, my girlfriends and I decided to bring the kids here on a Sunday afternoon. The weather was beautiful, so we sat outside. We did not even peek inside, so no comments about their decor.. The patio was a little dusty, but since spring wasn't in full swing yet, I don't think it was being used much. Not many people there when we came, so the kids enjoyed having a table for themselves. They ordered the peperoni pizza while we followed yelper's recommendations and ordered half Frank's special and half all veggie. OMG! The crust was light and crunchy. The inside was pillowy and super flavorful. All the topping ingredients were fresh and of good quality. I have to confess we enjoyed the pizza so much, we even ate the borders. There weren't many non-carbonated drink options on the menu. That's my only complaint. Service was fine and the lady was very patient with the kids' table.

Being from Chicago, I am a bit of a pizza snob. so i was skeptical when people told me that i have to try this place. Every place that had been recommended so far was a huge disappointment. Almost didnt even try the pizza cause we were so disappointed int he service. We arrived to "wait to be seated" sign. There were employees just standing around ignoring us. after 10 minutes of standing at the front by ourselves, we went up to a server, Roberto, that was working at a server station. He sat us right away. We were never greeted by a server. Roberto took notice of that and took care of us right away. He took care of us even though it was clearly not his responsibility, The pizza was fantastic as promised. Best I have had in northern California so far, and without the service, i would rate it 5 stars, But had it not been for Roberto, and ONLY his excellent service, we would not even think of coming back.

Pizza was ok , wasn't crisp no crunch, which is a thing I love about pizza. Sauce a little under seasoned. Not a bad place but not special but I did not try a entree

Had Jeff's pizza, ground beef, pepperoni, and onions... It was pretty tasty - and the cool thing is he was kind enough to to share. The pepperoni was a little salty, but still satisfied my appetite... I guess it's a staple in Pleasanton - because there's a lot of neat signs on the walls. Service was fast and efficient - heck they have to make a pizza, so if anyone else complains about that, get a life.

This is my new favorite pizza spot in the tri-valley. No wonder this place has been there forever. I had the Frank's special extra thick, amazing. The staff is friendly and the pizza is best around. There is parking in the back and it is on main street so you can go for a walk afterwards. My only recommendation is to order a half pitcher because the individual beers are kinda small. But if you order the half pitcher its about two normal sized beers. Only thing to add was I wished they carried local beers (i.e. Altamont Brewing Co.) Great place though.

I went here a couple of months ago with my girlfriend and sister in-law. The pizza was pretty good, 3 stars; I've had better but also a lot worse. The other reason I liked the place is the ambience. The decor, staff, and patrons were all pretty great. Everyone was in a good mood, and having fun. Something I like in visiting a pizza parlor. I did not get the feeling of a trendy place at all, it was one of those places that reminded me of what I enjoyed so much as a kid. Everything right down to the claw game that gave me some nice prizes :) Bring your family, and enjoy a fun evening at your local pizza parlor.

Took my kids here for pizza night with Dad last Friday night and it was awesome! Great service, great pizza, and all-in-all a really funny atmosphere. I remember coming here as a kid back in the 90's and it's still such a great location and place to go. We will definitely be coming back many times as a family.

Picture this: This is a screne something out of a TV show... This is the first time ever meeting my Step-sister who was adopted out.... My sister choose Gay Nineties Pizza Co to have our first meeting with dinner. ! ! Pleasanton has such a wonderful strip of trendy resturants and shop. I was amazed at what was on Main Street. Walking in here This is the cutest with memorbialia all on the wall. Keep you looking around at the decor. It may be small but pack big on impression. Thanks to Julie who greeted me as soon as i walked in the the most awesome smile a authentic outgoing personality to boot. ! I was so nervous but Julie & Maria settled my mind with their down home Hospitality. My sister was a little behine schedule so I waited patiently. This pizzaria is all about family dinner. As I was waiting I noticed sever large family being seated. This did not dicure my customer service from my waitress... she was very attentive. Our meeting went fantastic and we chatted it up just like we had known each other for years. Food: We had 2 salads before our main course came. We ordered a medium combination pizza that was huge. It certainly looked like a large. The pizza was one of the best I have tasted ever... the dough crust is tasty, the sauce is zesty and topping fresh ! I give them 5 stars on their pizza. Back to Julie and Maria they where nice enought to take several picture of me and my sister from our phone. Thanks again. to the both of you for making my one evening the most perfect ever. To the management of Gay Nineties Pizza Co. Julie is extremely extraordinary personality and brings noting but smiles. Be aware that JULIE is a Diamond jewel you have as staff. that bring a smile to all your customers.

This is a tough review to write because overall, I think it's a decent restaurant with good food. However, the service is quite lacking, and poor service can ruin your meal and dining experience! Considering the prices at the restaurant, I'd expect a better experience. Here is an example: I've been here 2 times. The last time was with my family (2 adults, 3 small kids). We went early since my kids are young, and we wanted to get there before it was busy. We arrived at 5:30pm. We had 2 servers come by to take our order soon after we sat down, as if they weren't sure who had what table and were fighting over the table. We let the first server take our order (an older woman, named Maria). We ordered right away (about 10 mins after being seated). We ordered a small 1-topping pizza (for the kids), a medium thick crust combo pizza (for the adults), a salad and bread. It was a very simple order. Maria let us know that the thick crust would take longer, which we said would be fine as long as the kids' pizza wouldn't take long. After 45 mins of waiting, we asked Maria about the pizzas, and she answered with a deep sigh like we were bothering her. She said something like, "It'll take as long as it takes!" We watched her head to the kitchen, and she returned to say that the thick crust would take longer, but my husband reminded her that other pizza was regular crust. She informed us that they WAITED to put in the small pizza, so they could both be ready at the same time, even though we specifically requested to have the food when it was ready, so the kids could eat. Since there wasn't anything we could do, we waited. And waited. They were very busy at that point in the evening, and we were reminded of that as the backs of our chairs would bump up against other patrons' chairs. (It was so crowded that it begs the question: What is the capacity of that room? Certainly we were over the max.) Anyhow, the worst part of the evening wasn't the long wait..nor was it the over-crowded indoor space. It was what happened next. The pizzas were ready at 6:45pm. That meant it took 1 hour and 15 mins! Then, within 15 minutes of receiving our pizzas, Maria came to our table to ask if we'd like our food boxed. My son and I (both facing her at the table) were HOLDING OUR PIZZA SLICES IN OUR HAND AND WERE STILL EATING. We barely ate half our food! The others happened to not be holding food at the time she came by, but they had just started. It was really odd. When we said we were still eating, she just dropped off the boxes on our table and would ask what plates she could remove. Though I appreciate efficiency, it was obvious we were still in the middle of eating our meal. When is it okay to be rushed to leave in 10-15 mins after receiving your food, especially after waiting 1 hour and 15 mins for the food to be ready?!! Perhaps if this was a "hole in the wall" restaurant, I'd expect poor service, but our bill was $70! I don't think every server is this rude, so if you go, you have to take a gamble. With that said, the over-crowded rooms and long waits will always be there. I do not plan to return to this establishment, and I will not recommend Gay Nineties Pizza to friends who care about service or want to be treated politely...which is everyone.

We came to Gay Nineties tonight for dinner as a group of ten. An unsatisfactory member of our party made quite the scene. Ryan, our waiter, was wonderful from the beginning. Alex, another waiter, helped out and was awesome. Conner, the manager, helped us and handled the situation perfectly. Alex, Conner and Ryan: we are so, so sorry about what happened. Please know that you do a great job and that we will always be Gay Nineties Fans!

Truly amazing pizza place. My wife and I heard about the place from craig ferguson during one of his late night show opening monologues. We got a small pizza with cheese and pineapple and a couple of Iced coffees. The pizza was very tasty - the crust was fluffy, they loaded it with pineapple and it came with a salad. We got all of this for less than $11. The service was pretty amazing too - server got us a water bowl for our pup and brought the food and drinks out with enough time to relax and enjoy the downtown patio. Highly recommended.

We came here for my son's birthday on a Sunday afternoon. I believe our server was Aisha, but everyone was so sweet and friendly. I had asked ahead of time if I could bring a birthday cake, and the person who answered was so nice about it: "Of course!" Our server offered to refrigerate the cake and cupcakes when we arrived (we sat outside on the patio), and she was very patient with our group of 10. She helped us choose appropriate menu items and was very attentive. The pizza, salads, hot wings, and mozzarella sticks were much better quality than many other places and just delicious. We relaxed there for two hours, without feeling hurried. It was lovely, and I highly recommend this restaurant. My mom even called the next day to compliment the staff.

I'm in agreement with those who review this restaurant understanding that it's a traditional west coast pizza place. This is not the place to go if you want something fancy/inventive. Nor will it be something that east coast pizza fans love. I lived in NYC for a long time and I love good NYC pizza. I also like good west coast traditional pizza (thicker crust, more toppings, etc.). Gay Nineties is an excellent example of the latter. The only knock on this place is it's a bit expensive. But the ingredients are fresh and the pizza is delicious.

I don't understand why everyone loves this place. Yeah, the building itself has character, I mean who doesn't love a good ghost story, but the food is terrible and the service is worse. I have been there several times and it is consistently bad. Our tables were always sticky, like they wiped it down with soda, the pizza always taste under cooked, and the pasta, I don't think there are actual words to describe how bad it was.

You know what's funny? People who don't get what this place is and try to rate it against pizza places like Amici's and give it bad reviews. It's a local hangout where they make the pies with love and it's totally casual. Good for kids. Awesome. Only complaint: 10oz beers or you gotta go for a half pitcher? I want a pint, baby! That would round this place out nicely. Do me a favor: it can also get busy so if you are thinking twice then DON'T COME and we'll take your spot. ;)

I just ordered over phone a special all meat pizza and hot wings+BBQ wings, don't like the BBQ wings, too much sauce and over cooked. The hot wings are okay. Pizza is great, I like it and all my friends like it too. The service for to-go is great. So 4stars

Woah, Gay Nineties Pizza! Chicago has some great pizza - but this ranks right up there! I stopped in Plasanton to visit some good friends, and we ended up at Gay Nineties for drinks, and brought pizza home. This place may alarm some of you, just by name - but rest assured that this place is the HAPPY gay... and has a great staff to go along. The pizza was fantastic - we killed those two pizza. 3 happy adults, 2 happy kids = WIN Great spot that I hope to stop at again in the future.

My girlfriend and I met at a Pizza Parlor, so every year on our anniversary we select a new pizza place and have a Heart Shaped pizza to celebrate. This year, we picked Gay 90's and they did a fantastic job! They made a great tasting heart shaped pizza, which we loved. Great place, great attitude, great management.

this is my all time favorite pizza place. I remember coming here as a kid with my family and the whole neighborhood. I recently worked not too far from here so on my last night decided to treat myself and celebrate my departure. I called my order in and the young man, Connor, who took my order was very pleasant. When I got there to pick up my pizza, I asked if I could purchase a drink, grab a table and eat my pizza there, the young man, I didn't catch his name, but he was very nice and said yes. All of the people working last night (9/18/2014) did a really fantastic job with greeting me and making sure I had everything I needed. I just wanted to share my wonderful customer service experience.

We came with a party of 10. They wouldn't take a reservation on a weekend. We're told it will be a 35-40 min wait. 90+ min later we're told they have no idea when they can seat us. Won't be back ever!

My fiance wanted to try this place so we decided to give it a shot. We're glad we did! Went on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty busy. The restaurant has seating for large groups and a nice and open back patio with heaters. We ordered the "Wayne's World" pizza to go. It was delicious! The crust is fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. There is no skimping on the toppings too! Ours was topped so thick that I choose to eat it with a fork. The service at the restaurant was also very friendly. If you want pizza in Plesanton then check out Gay Nineties!

I agree with the average reviews. Friday night so yes they are busy so I won't comment on the service. Friendly people though. 1. Pizza was VERY good. 2. Priced about right. 3. Good beer selection. 4. Not to my scale of cleanliness. Sticky gross menus. Dirty windows I could see before I went in. Sat at the bar (which is not staffed) which was very cluttered. Old decor which makes you think dirty place. All equals maybe a dirty kitchen. ??? Update: as I said the pizza was very good so no I have no suggestion. The decor was not my only comment that made me think the place was not up to "my standards". Plus I said my standards and was very specific about the details.

Great location for warm spring and summer nights due to the outdoor patio. Place seems to be fairly family friendly. Good service that checked on us regularly. Pizza to me was so-so, so I would come more for drinks than for dinner in the future

We ate here last night. We sat in the open courtyard behind the restaurant. It was very pleasant. Arrived at 6pm and it wasn't too busy yet. We were a party of 8. My wife and I asked for a separate check and that was no problem. I ordered the lasagna dinner with garlic bread and my wife ordered the eggplant parmesan ala cart . The rest of our party ordered pizza. My salad arrived in about 10 minutes.Pizza arrived in about 15 to 20 minutes. Our dinners arrived about 15 minutes later but I had to remind our server about my bread. I took a few bites of my lasagna and it was cool. I dug into the middle and it was cool too. I waited about 5 minutes and was able to flag another server and let them know I needed to have my lasagna warmed up. They took it away and I waited and waited and waited. My wife had finished her meal and the rest of our party had finished there pizza. Still I had nothing. We informed another server and then our server came back with apologies. At this point I said to forget my lasagna. She said they would take it off the check. I was never offered any other food. There was one piece of cold pizza left from our friends so I ate that. I was very disappointed in there lack of customer service. The few bites I had of the lasagna I new it was good but it was too cool. I only have to assume that it sat out before the server got to it and it had cooled off. When were back in this area I might come back here but there are many restaurants in downtown Pleasanton I would probably go to first.

Ordered milk for the kids, agreed with their opinion of sour when I smelled it. The waitress actually tasted it when I brought it to her attention! Gross! That was our third and last time there. The time before the glass of wine I ordered was rancid. All done.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
