Definitely one of the best sushi spots in OC! Fun story: I used to be on the "Fish are friends not food" side, until my boyfriend convinced me I just needed to give it a try. For my first ever sushi experience he brought me here and it sparked my love for sushi now. Who would have thought, I would love sushi? Since my first visit I compare other sushi places to this one, and most don't compare. The atmosphere, the location, the service -it's all really great! I have been back here several times since our first rendezvous and have never been let down. And although it can be pricy here, their prices are comparative to most sushi and it's WELL WORTH IT - you can taste the quality of the fish here.

Pleasantly surprised with our first visit. We were seated immediately. The place is small, but well laid out with lots of windows. Our server was attentive and very friendly. We ordered the macchu picchu roll, Vegas roll, crunch crunch roll and spicy tuna hand rolls. Excellent food! We loved everything! We had a ton of food and our entire bill was $42. Completely reasonable. We heard the Chilean Sea Bass is a must for our next visit, so we have that on our list to try. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and is now our go to place for sushi.

Wanted to try a new sushi place, not impressed. the ambiance was nice for a date, a tad to dark for me but that's my personal preference. The server was fine, she was just very short and seemed to be in a rush. The food was nothing amazing. We ordered the spicy edamame, dont! It had no spice. The Vegas roll: was cold, and tasted like it had sat around for awhile. The fried onion straws on top were cold and they accomplished the taste and texture of an old sushi roll. The cowboy: good flavor combination. We would have ordered more but these rolls went great and I didn't want to be disappointed. The food does come out quite slow.

My all time favorite sushi place for the last 5 years! The service is hit or miss depending on how busy they are, the rolls are fantastic, the restaurant is nice, the prices reasonable, and the rolls are a decent size. It's a local favorite for many and waiting to be seated or waiting for service when they are really busy doesn't really bother me. We will continue to eat at FIAB for many years to come.

Well here we sit at our table , an hour after our order was taken. After we waited 35 minutes for a table. Haven't seen the waiter. The wife is about ready to go to sleep. The granddaughter is getting bored. Need I say more.

If you don't get sushi don't go here. The chicken was so tough we had to use a saw. The service was the worse I have ever had. We had to ask to clear the table. They never offered desert. Needless to say, I honestly had the worse service I have ever had. Shouldn't have such bad service with $25-30 a plate. I honestly think Mc Donald's has better service. Oh I told the manager, all she had to say was "sorry". That made me feel so much better. I thought it was a waste of money between the food and service.

I always drove by this place and wondered what kind of place this would be. Obviously some sort of take on sushi with a twist of a winebar perhaps? Anyways, I finally tried it out and turns out I really liked this place! It's a cool spot for some Americanized sushi. I'd say its similar to Kabuki except the ambiance is different. Kabuki plays House music and has a younger crowd, and Fish in a Bottle is a little bit more romantically lit and a better choice for a family meal or a date. Also...I don't think it's supposed to be a winebar thing.. but they DID have $5 glasses of house wine so I was a huge fan of that! All the food is pretty decent and it's not super expensive either. If you like Rolls, they have a huge variety! Our faaaaaavorite roll was the YA-YA ROLL, so if you heart yellowtail you should check that one out. We got some other rolls and Calamari was legit as well. In an area like Brea where, lets be real, there isn't that much to do or to eat (unless you go to chain places like Bucca or fish grill), I would check it out!

Food is delicious but service sucks right now. Plates are self stacked ready to be cleared yet no one to pick them up. Literally I'm writing this as I wait.

We love this place! Baked baby lobster was delicious, & the French Kiss roll is a favorite! Just tried the house sake tonight and it was a tasty little addition to the meal. Our server was great! Sitting on the patio is relaxing (if you tune out the cars rushing by). All in all, we really enjoy coming once in a while for a moderately priced date night.

I love this place. Every time in the area, this place is my guilty pleasure. This place knows how to make sushi. What I love about this place is it's original rolls. Haven't come across a place quite like it! Delicious! Would recommend the firecracker, crunch dragon and machu pichu! I also LOVE their chicken salad!

My first review was 5 star. I changed it to 4 star because the service is 2-3 stars. The food is really good but the service is below average. After being seated we were ignored while the waiter in the outside area was talking away to some customer buddies. He made sure not to make eye contact with us. Another waitress who was also trained in the ancient eastern art of no eye contact zoomed by us a few times. I hate being ignored and it wasn't busy. I assume poor management over staff. To long of a wait and customer service issues

FOR THOSE WITH PEANUT/NUT ALLERGY, BEWARE!!! My sister and I came here the other day after we were craving sushi and had high expectations based off the Yelp reviews and unique flare of the restaurant, but were thoroughly disappointed. We ordered the crunch crunch roll but was not expecting the crunch that came with it. Instead of the typical tempura bits that surround the outer layer, there was like fried noodles on top which made it a bit difficult to eat. Also, the flavors didn't stand out so much as it was pretty much stuffed with imitation crab. As an appetizer, we also got the calamari which was served with their slaw. After eating the tower of calamari, I discovered peanuts in it and I don't recall seeing peanuts served in their slaw from their menu and that's when everything started going downhill. With a peanut allergy, I asked the waiter the first time if they normally serve peanuts with their slaw and he said yes, although they are a side in the back and that was the end of that conversation. The second time, I asked him if it was in the menu that they advertise this and he said he wasn't sure and didn't bother to confirm it by bringing the menu. I have to give him a few points because he did ask if I was feeling okay, but I still feel like he should have double checked with the menu or give a complimentary dessert to wash my paranoia out! The service was on and off even if there were a total of 3 tables for the afternoon. We didn't even get a refill of water during our stay! Not sure if I would give it another go! This is on the higher end of your regular sushi bar!

After moving to Yorba Linda I was told by neighbors that this is a decent sushi place to try. We continually drive to Brea since our favorite sushi spot never fails. For our 6 year anniversary we came to Fish in a Bottle to celebrate. Our server was a bit short and seemed very busy. We ordered an appetizer and bottle of wine when we requested to order after we received our appetizer she seemed bothered. I understand that they were busy but this made a bad first impression. Our appetizer was amazing! We received the wrong bottle of wine we ordered but drank it as it was very tasty. Our rolls were tasty but the salmon on my roll was a very small portion compared to our regular sushi spot. Overall I thought the ambiance was great and food was okay.

Great place! We usually go when it's slow, so the service has always been great. Food comes in good time, tastes great and we always end up ordering most of the popular rolls but can never decide too quickly... They're all good.

  • Tracy K.

If they tell you a pickup order is going to be 15 minutes, plan on it being around 45. This has happened way more than once. I've awkwardly been sitting here for 30 minutes watching rolls fly out of the bar.

We are always looking for a new sushi restaurant. This place was worth the wait. California Roll was perfect and the shrimp was fresh and ice cold. The service was excellent and I would recommend Fish in a Bottle to ant seafood lover!

  • Christine C.

You want some great food? THIS IS THE PLACE! We ordered Sushi and a Pork plate. Yes two ends of the spectrum but both were excellent! It did take a bit to get refills and our bill but the place was packed. We didn't mind. We will be back, just maybe during lunch instead.

  • Kara A.

I go here often and always sit at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are friendly and quick. I rarely sit at a regular table since there is often a wait because the sushi here is so good! I think they've got a difficult time keeping servers and there usually aren't enough. Very good quality, fresh fish but I agree with other reviews with regard to the short staffing.

  • Joe M.

Went here for lunch with my wife. Sushi rolls were ok, but too much cream cheese. Service was terrible, had to wait 15 minutes for a refill. I wasn't even asked if i needed napkins, which i obviously needed. Also had to wait for approximately 20 minutes to get my bill. First and last time I ever come here.

Excellent Sushi with a vibrant feel. A little slow in service and a bit pricy, but a reasonable value when you taste it.

If you love mayonnaise, then this is definitely the place for you. Thank you. It'd be a bit nicer if the staff seemed a bit friendlier.

Food taste fine but service wise it's horrible. Not only the waitress forgot my order but they tried to charge the food knowing that they did not bring the food. I'm not expecting kissing ass to earn the tip but at least say goodbye when customer leaves the place...but I still gave the waitress a tip anyway....

  • Grace G.

Our family arrived at the restaurant around 11:10 am , the sign showed: open, so we went in, and was told that we need to wait 20 minutes to set up. We said , it is ok, we can wait. Today is cloudy and cold, my dad is handicap, the guy in the restaurant required us to wait outside, I hate to say, he is very rude without at least respect. That is their fault to put the sign in Open, and ask the guest to be outside no matter the senior health status and bad weather. What I can do is to change the restaurant, and use my feet to vote.

  • Sharone O.

I used to love going to this place, and although the food is still super yummy, the price has gone up I've r the last few years and the portions have become smaller. I ordered 3 sushi dishes for $40 and it seemed like a lot of money.

  • Sandra F.

First time there. I will be back again and again. We loved it. Fast service plenty of time to get there, order, enjoy and get back to work in one hour. We ordered the garlic enemame...delicious! We shared so we could try more items and would have ordered more if we had more time it was THAT good.

Celebrated a friend's birthday here. Fish in a Bottle is that Japanese restaurant you take novice sushi eaters in order to introduce them to authentic sushi. With that said, brought a friend who has never tried sushi ... like ever, and she's from San Diego! Insane in the membrane. So, definitely gotta start with 'dem rolls. The CALAMARI ENCHILADA roll (~11) is bomb! (Thanks Les L.!). Definitely not spicy, with thick slices of salmon on a california roll. Did I already mention, the salmon slices on top were thick? Oh and very generous and fresh. This place is kinda out there in placentia.... not the prettiest hood, but anyway, it caters to the flavorful roll loving crowd. Holiday decor was festive and adorable. Romantic ambiance. Great place for celebrations and/or night out with the s.o. Enjoy!

The good: Filet wrapped asparagus is the best. One of my favorite things at any restaurant! The sushi never lets us us. Among the best in the area. The bad: No coke products. Not really a bad, just personal taste. The ugly: Nothing of note. I am very happy eating here whenever I can!

To my yelp community. I am writing this review to inform you of the service that flows from the top down. Our server Belle did an amazing job on serving my wife and I with one exception. This was our fist time eating at Fish NA Bottle and our bill was over $80.00 We ordered different Sushi than we normally get and it was all amazing except the Mango Sushi Roll. The mangos were light years away from being ripe and when I brought this to Belles attention she replied,"well it isn't mango season." This didn't address my issue at all because I have no idea when mango season is. It was a $11-13 roll. As an additional gratuity for Belle we went and picked her up a very special desert we love and brought it back for her to have. When we came back in and explained our intentions on blessing her with this additional tip the General Manager Jordan was very RUDE to us and his employee Belle. He told us the company policy of no eating on their shifts but he would make an exception. He then degraded Belle in front of us by seriously telling her to clean up any mess she may leave in the back. I was taken back by his attitude and behavior. Shortly after we walked out of the restaurant with no thanks for blessing his staff he went out front to smoke and talk on his cell phone. I guess that is cool with the company policies? I called the next day to voice my frustration only to learn that Jordan the GM is the highest on the latter and he was sorry I didn't see things the way he does. FYI I told him about our un ripe mango roll and he told me....."well it isn't mango season!" Give me a break!

Sorry, not a fan of this place. Two of us sat at the sushi bar early on a Friday night. Restaurant was pretty crowded for that early. Overall, sushi was ok, service was the pits. Maybe we got stuck with a bad sushi chef--I don't know. First off, we weren't allowed to communicate with the sushi chef. If we wanted something, we grabbed the order sheet off of the counter and wrote it down. Half the reason to sit a the sushi bar is the relationship with the chef, to get recommendations, etc. None of that happened. We did get menus at the first, but no one ever came back to see if we wanted anything. Finally, about 3/4 of the way through, the busboy took the menus. There didn't appear to be any servers assigned to the sushi bar. Both beers we got were only after asking people a bunch of times. It's weird. I read a review about this place where the person said they might come back but not sit at the sushi bar. I thought that was sort of weird. I would now completely agree. The food. It was ok. I'm not sure our sushi guy was the greatest. A couple of pieces weren't trimmed very well, which is bad. The soft shell crab roll was ok, but clearly wasn't cooked to order. I keep thinking we just had a bad night. The place was pretty busy for being so early. Although, I did notice that the Crunch crunch rolls outsold everything else by like 4 to one. Prices were about the same as similar places. Sorry but terrible service and mediocre sushi doesn't make me want to return anytime soon (or ever).

Every time we come to the OC we eat lunch at this restaurant. The rolls and sashimi are good. My only criticism is that they put a lot of emphasis on the presentation instead of the food which is kind of annoying. We have ordered the salads and other Japanese-American fusion dishes and I am always disappointed. The food is too busy. Too much dressing, drizzles, toppings. Less is more. This time we had the Popcorn Lobster Salad. YUCK. Overly dressed, and frozen lobster, so heavily battered and fried it did not taste like lobster. We go to this restaurant for the YaYa roll, the dragon roll and the spicy scallop hand roll. Stick with basic sushi and you will be pleased.

I can't say enough good things about this place! My favorite sushi spot in this area by far! Let's start with the staff. The couple that owns and operates this place are great and always greet you with a smile. The servers are awesome and attentive. I could honestly say I've had only 1 bad experience with a server and I wasn't too worried because they got rid of her by my next visit. The cooks are phenomenal! The Hispanic chef is always full of energy and fun to interact with when you sit at the sushi bar. Now the food. They have tons of great non-sushi dishes, but I only eat sushi when I visit. I've literally tried every sushi option on the menu over the course my 100+ visits and have not been disappointed. My suggestions: Calamari Enchilada, Tiger Roll, Baked Baby Lobster Roll, and Midnight Sun. Con: Like any great restaurant, it tends to be super crowded in the evenings the second half of the week. It still definitely worth the wait, I would suggest calling the order in for pick up.

I have been going to Fish in a Bottle for quite some time now. It was my to go spot as a freshman in college, and it continues to be one of my favorites. I continue to go back for the YaYa roll. It's spicy and delicious. Also, they have good wine options. The servers have always been very attentive, and they have a nice patio. I definitely recommend this place!

I am ashamed because I've been to Fish in a Bottle many a time and I just now realized I hadn't reviewed them yet. I'm reeling with guilt because it's one of my favorite sushi spots in all of Los Angeles and Orange County and I think the world deserves to be in on the secret! Tucked into the foothills of Yorba Linda, FIAB boasts amazingly fresh and clean cuts of sashimi, some of the best creative rolls you've ever had, appetizers for days, and a decent beer and wine selection to boot. Our go-to's are the spicy garlic edamame, the filet mignon wrapped asparagus, the ya-ya roll, the honeymooners roll, the sashimi platters, and the hand rolls. Every item is carefully assembled to make your taste buds explode and they really succeed in their sauces - they come together magically with each piece of melt in your mouth fish that you'll try. You can sit out on the patio here and enjoy a warm, summer evening or sit inside and wash the sushi chefs make magic. I love the wait staff here, super welcoming and sweet. I've never had a problem getting my food in a timely manner but I've heard on the weekends it can get a little crazy, and rightfully so. It's an intimate little spot, great for a family night out or a romantic date with your beau.

I'm all good with fish in a bottle. Everything is good, service, food. Eating there or take out is all good. The only downside is the closing time. So I'll just have to show up earlier!!

My family has been touting Fish in a Bottle for as long as its been open. Having lived in TX for the last 10 years or so, it seemed that for every major event in my OC family's life, Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations have mostly been celebrated at F.i.a.B... So it was an almost obvious choice, when I visited SOCAL during the period of my birthday, that my parentals would invite me out to this restaurant. We were a party of 7 peeps and we sat outside. Our server had a pretty full section and I noticed her take some tables inside, although she could have been helping someone out. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday Evening, but my parents said that was normal. Reading thru some of the other reviews, there is a mixed bag for sure. you have to take the good with the bad. We order 6 different rolls and some Edamame for Apps. Is this the ultimate Sushi/Japanese/Seafood Restaurant? No. Is this a casual, family restaurant with good and inventive rolls, that satisfy both "Sushi Expert" and Little kids.... Maybe....ok, Yes. Was this a nice experience that made my celebration with my Family a pleasant one that didnt break the Bank... YES! Will I go back next time I am in SOCAL? Most Likely......

Terrible service, overpriced very mediocre food. We waited an hour for our food, we were constantly ignored by our waitress, and the non-seafood food tasted like fish. This place is poorly managed and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Yuck!

  • Anita C.

Service is a bit slow, but we were still able to eat and get back to work on our lunch hour. The food is always amazing. The YaYa Roll and the Spicy Tuna Dip (sub out chips for cucumber slices) are amazing. My boyfriend rarely eats fish, let alone raw fish and even he loved everything.

Hair in straw of Dr. Pepper, sake served without cooler/ice bucket & 1 glass for 2 people. Salad served with no dressing. Asked twice for chopsticks & salad dressing. Asked twice for another sake glass that never came. 2 stars as food was good overall. Peanuts served with dishes & not noted on menu..we have severe peanut allergies..as in anaphylaxis! Sushi served without ginger/wasabi on one dish & included on the exact dish for another diner! It's back to Sushi Noguchi in YL or Yori in Brea for us!

Love fish in a bottle! Went there today and the service was fast, always came back to ask if everything is alright. So thats a big plus. My fiance got the sushi platter he loved it and I got the baked baby lobster roll. You get alot of lobster and very filling. Will definitely be coming back here soon.

Ordered the sampler and it was ok (5 piece) for $14.99. The rice was falling apart when I was picking up my sushi. I also waited 20 minutes for my order to come out. Not the best place for sushi compared to other sushi places...

Fish in a bottle, sushi and grill. The name sounded interesting, so I figured I will try it out, without any sort of recommendation. My Friend wanted sushi, she doesn't do raw fish. When she said she wanted sushi, it meant a Bento. My first impression of the restaurant was it was trendy and I dont know why the music was so loud. I felt like I was shopping at like Holister or something. They had John Mayer and the flaming lips playing at full blast. I came here on a Superbowl Sunday. The place opened at 4pm and we got there at 4pm. We were the only one there. The server sat us immediately. She handed us two menu and took our drink order. My menu was falling apart, the plastic film on it came off and one of the pages was all wrinkled. While we were looking through the menu our server was spraying down some of the menus and wiping them clean. So my friend was disappointing that they didn't' offer any teriyaki chicken bowls. She ended up getting the Dragon roll. I ended up with the sushi platter, it came with an assortment of nigiri, and then you can get either Miso soup or a salad. I picked a salad. You also get your choice of california rolls or spicy tuna. I got the Cali Rolls. Added a spicy scallop hand roll. I love spicy Scallop hand rolls. However this one didn't wow me. It was bland and the rice sucked. Since my review is getting kinda long i'm going to sum it up right now. What is up with the rice? Might of been under cooked or something? It was was very dry. I had to drink a lot of water to swallow it. At one point I think all that rice like clump up in my throat. I started coughing. Not the best sushi I ever had.

Very worried when a sushi bar serves imitation crab sushi and tilapia for red snapper. Come on guys I even asked you if the red snapper was real red snapper and you told me its too expensive and its actually high end tilapia and just as good. If its tilapia, call it tilapia!

BE PREPARE TO WAIT. THIS PLACE NEEDS MORE WAITERS. There's one waitress for the entire place, and she's not that efficient. Came here on a Friday for lunch, curious to see what this restaurant is all about (as I've heard good things about it via word of mouth). The place was pretty busy, but there was a table available so we were seated right away. The waitress came and took our drink order within a couple minutes, but since we had never been here, we needed some time to ask the waiter of the popular menu items and then another minute to to make our final food order decision. Boy, did that minute turn into like 10+ minutes! I was wrong in thinking this would be the longest wait of our dining experience. We had ordered the sashimi lunch special, sushi lunch special, yellow tail sashimi, and the Crunch Crunch roll. There were about 2-3 sushi chefs filling orders, but could not find the one waitress to pick up the order to serve the customers. When we finally got our food, we were pleased at the quality of the fish and food, but couldn't get over the fact how horrible the service is. Seemed like the bus boy was our waiter while the waitress went MIA... he helped get our check, box our food, and take our payment. Forget about getting a quick lunch when you're dealing w/ this one waitress, probably faster to just eat at the sushi bar if you can. Our entire lunch almost reached 2 hrs... And back to the food. The lunch special only offers miso or salad... why not serve both (as many other restaurants do)?! And the Crunch Crunch roll has too much mayo flavor in their roll. The Yellowtail sashimi was my favorite (good quality fish). As disappointed as I was with my experience, I might have to come back and try their Ya Ya roll and give the wait staff another chance.

BEST SUSHIIIIII EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This place is by far my favorite sushi spot! I have had sushi all over the place, from the nicest areas and this is the best one yet! So fresh, so unique, so tasty! Sushi chefs are so nice, one was even helping me learn how to make sushi! I go here for lunch sometimes and sit on the bar by myself. It makes my days happier eating here! lol :)

First time here and was pleased. Had the spicy edemame, midnight sun, and red dragon (?). Very tasty and fair portions relative to their cost. Great menu with diverse selection. No pictures and by salmon they meant cooked salmon. Service was prompt and timely. No complaints -- very nice place to eat. Will definitely come back.

I absolutely LOVE this place. It's my go to sushi place. I eat here a lot. Their menu is very creative and delicious.. and reasonably priced. It's clean...modern...tons of parking...and the service is great. What more can you ask for? Love their outdoor patio.

This is our second time to this establishment after being impressed after our first visit. During our first visit, we were very fond of their house salad and glad to see we had plenty of choices with their vast sake selection. For every Valentine's Day, we always like to celebrate by eating sushi, like the time we spent on our first Valentine's. When we came to FiaB this time, we were not happy when we left. Service was good, cleanliness was good (except for being served a cracked drinking glass), but the sushi quality was subpar. I don't like to be negative, but my girlfriend and I felt compelled to say something after paying shy of $100 for our meal. We ordered the restaurant's sashimi platter and when we were served, the sashimi ended up being very dry and fishy (smell-wise and after taste-wise) well after being chewed and swallowed with soy sauce, wasabi, and even ginger. When we ordered the Mountain roll, the salmon on top was so cooked that all we could taste was the fish. We had ordered some other rolls that seemed unique to the restaurant, but we can't say that we were truly happy with our choices. I'm, by no means, an expert sushi critic, but the two of us have eaten enough sushi to know this establishment did not serve us quality food. Sadly, we were really disappointed with what we ordered. FiaB is by no means a bad place to eat, but for the price paid for the food received and the quality of the fish, we do not plan to come back when in the mood for sushi and Japanese food.

Noting to write home about. A friend wanted to try it. I had my reservations bc every time I drove by they had a Now Hiring sign. So when we first got there we waited about 5min which was not to bad bc it was after 5. Our table was ok considering there were 4 toddlers all around us, but their parents taught them well so they behaved for the most part LOL. Anyway when our waiter finally came after 10 min to take our drink orders we put in our food orders. He seemed like he didn't want to take the time to take our order and answer our ques.. Between the drinks coming and our food 25 min later he didn't bother with stopping by our table to check on us. When the food came It was not to bad, small portions I thought for the price. Overall I would try again. Maybe they will hire new ppl........again. LOL

I've been to a few sushi restaurants around Fullerton/Placentia/Brea/Yorba Linda and THIS Fish in a Bottle location is by far my favorite! The fish is fresh and tastes great! The restaurant is nice, clean, and even has a cute outdoor patio with tables to enjoy your sushi outdoors. They have a variety of rolls that sound original and tasty. I wanted to try them all! I ordered the lobster roll and it was delicious! I also had the Hawaiian roll which was good also, but was overshadowed by the amazing lobster roll. The garlic edamame was stir fried in a spicy garlic date and was a little too salty for my tastes. Next time I'll stick with the regular salted edamame. The staff was friendly and helpful, but I can see how it can be slow when the restaurant gets crowded. From what I remember, the prices are decent $8-$12/roll, around the same as many of the sushi places I've been to. But the quality was better than the other places I've visited in this area. I'll definitely be back to try more of their rolls, I had a great experience!

Not worth putting in my review. Waiter spilled water on me including my clothes and purse. Don't particularly care much for the lady owner.

Service is horrible, fish is decent. We won't be going back. Forgot our order, way to slow..we were with our daughter and then we're told "everyone came at the same time"....isn't that called dinner--you are a restaurant, right?? After waiting for our order, my daughter finally fave up (she is 3) and we told her we had to go..nothing off the bill. As we left, no thank you or goodnight. Sad to say, we won't be back. Must save up for sushi nogushi--so much better

Hands down our favorite place to get sushi! My wife and I have been eating here for years. In fact, she went into labor after a wonderful dinner here. Our daughter is now hitting her terrible 2s and not fun to take out to eat. My wife and I crave this place so much we've resorted to taking dinner to go and eating at home. We would simply be lost without Fish in a Bottle. If you get a chance go. The rice is so tasty! If you do get a chance the ahi and albacore specials will leave a lasting impression.

The wait to be seated and have our food served was a little long, but the sushi it's self was great. As long as you are not in a hurry, this place is a good choice

This is my new favorite sushi restaurant!! We have had dinner here about five times and the food and service has been great each time. I love sitting on the patio, but it's nice inside too. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, and if you aren't a sushi fan there are plenty of other choices.

My girlfriend and I went out to dinner tonight to this establishment. In past years the service was descent as well as the food. Tonight after 2 years of not visiting this place I realize how much a business can really go down the drain due to horrific service. After being seated we had to wait 15 minutes before our incompetent waitress by the name of "ASHLEY" finally got water for us but that was only after I had gone up to the front of the restaurant to fetch some help from a bus boy. So as Ashley the waitress arrives at our table she knocks my chop sticks off our table by accident. She picks them up off the ground and asked if I wanted to keep them and I said yes because they still had the wrapper but filthy bone head move on her behalf when she places the chop sticks that fell to the ground on my table napkin. So "I" not her had to ask for my napkin to be replaced. We then put our orders in a total of 4 dishes and 3 were appetizers and 1 main entree. We didn't see the main dish for my girlfriend until about 55 minutes from the initial time we ordered. We waited for ASHLEY the waitress to remove some empty plates from our table but once again she was nowhere to be seen. So I approached the bus boy to ask him not only for more water but for him to help us in removing some empty plates. I told him that if he helped me out and waited on me from time to time I would take care of him. I guess he wasn't allowed to and he told that waitress Ashley that I had complained about her service. Ashley then approaches our table and had the nerve to ask if something was wrong? She then told me "so what is it that you want? Do you want me to come over to your table more often?" That really ticked me off no common sense and very condescending. So I explained to her about how we had to wait for 15 minutes before having to go get some help for just simple glasses of water and about the chop sticks and her answer was "so we brought you water", "so I replaced your napkin" as if to say why was I complaining. So I asked her to leave our table side and I told my girlfriend how ridiculous the service was and Ashley heard my comment and she let out this sarcastic smirk. The rest of the night was ruined this incompetent waitress had no common sense or any manners what so ever for us. She was rude and very unprofessional. I have never had a more terrible experience at any other restaurant in my life. But the blame is more so on management than this Ashley woman for hiring incompetent and unprofessional people who don't belong in the restaurant service. Will never return to this place use to be descent but it is horrible now. By the way they comped only the beer for this mishap and I would rather much have had her reprimanded than getting any freebies. I saw the so called manager speaking to her and laughing with her 30 minutes after I complained to him. Thanks and be warned about this place!!!!! It's not what it used to be.

Tried this place for the first time on a friend's recommendation. My wife and I had the "Ya Ya Roll" - AMAZING. The Calamari was pretty bomb too. I also had yellowtail sashimi and the cut and portions were very generous. Friendly and attentive service; tasty sushi!

Wow the hamachi sashimi was amazing. So buttery and fresh. Service was good, although the food took a while to come out since there's only one chef working. Price is very reasonable. I will def come back:-)

Uhm yuck? I am so not a fan of fusion food. Crappy food, small portions, slow to no service and a crazy high bill and you have this place! We didn't just think the food was sub par because of the style, my asparagus was mush and the beef was tough on the roll I had, though I can't remember what it was called. And the dining area is crazy loud! Like, WTH is with the acoustics in this place?!? The food was so bad and we got such crappy portions that we actually ended up going to Carl's after we had just thrown down $70 here. No thanks. Never again.

This is our favorite sushi restaurant. We have been here at least 10 times in the last few years but this is my first yelp review. Our favorite rolls include the gold dragon, the baked baby lobster and the soft shell crab. The quality is always high and we continually walk away very happy that we chose to eat there.

Do not go!! I was just there and literally sick to my stomach, I think it may have been food poisoning.. First and last time.. Chomps on Fullerton is way better for the same price.. I had the crispy snapper more like soggy snapper.. Spicy garlic edamame was actually pretty good, miso soup I've had better.. Honestly the only good part was we were seated quickly, nice and quiet, and our waitress was very knowledgable of the menu and what to recommend since I'm extremely picky when it comes to seafood..

the short of it: decent sushi, average prices, & big portions accompanied by a classy atmosphere & John Mayer songs on the stereo. The bottle on your table that looks like it holds balsamic vinegar actually holds soy sauce! the long of it: * the sashimi platter is quite the bang for your buck. For $9.95, you get a full large sized 8-piece roll of either spicy tuna or California roll IN ADDITION to 6 slices of sashimi (2 yellowtail, 2 salmon, and 2 tuna) and a side salad. The accompanying spicy tuna roll I chose was OVERSTUFFED with spicy tuna, so they are very generous on the fish. The side salad seemed very "western" to me, with spring greens + candied walnuts + balsamic vinaigrette + julienned beets. * the Ya-Ya roll ($10.95) was a spicy combination of spicy yellowtail, jalapeno peppers, and a dot of sriracha on the outside, and cilantro + cucumber + yellowtail on the inside. This was a very big roll as well, be prepared to not talk to your dining partners for 5 minutes after attempting to put a whole piece in your mouth and chew it thoroughly. My impression of the menu is that there is definitely more emphasis on rolls and "Americanized" japanese dishes. Some of the more "creative" rolls did not strike my fancy (ie. steak, bacon, etc), as I enjoy sushi in a more traditional sense, but hey, whatever floats your boat :) The menu also has non-sushi items like tempura, teriyaki, and a whole page of appetizers.

I enjoy eating here because the quality is always fresh and the presentation is amazing. My only knock is that it's quite a bit expensive. Overall, if you don't mind spending a little extra, you can rest assured knowing you will get a good meal.

Have visited here several times and every visit has been exceptionally good. The owners & employees are always attentive and friendly, the food is outstanding ( try the crunch crunch roll! ) and the atmosphere is very clean & pleasant. Even the background music is modern & pleasant. I highly recommend this for anyone and any age group. Sit at the sushi bar, in a comfortable table or on the patio. You won't regret it. I do not work here, just really enjoy this place.

Fish in the Bottle is a pretty neat place. It's situated conveniently off the Imperial Highway. The maître d' was nice. I have tried the Midnight Sun, the Mountain, the Baja, and the Dragon Rolls. Out of everything, I'd definitely recommend the Baja: shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber, spicy mayo & chili sauce. By the way, there is no wifi service here. I'll be back for more.

The best sushi ever! I recommend the Yaya rolls- you won't regret it! One of the Su chefs Peter makes me a special spicy sauce to go with the Yaya rolls and it's delicious!

Came here from my birthday on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Starters: House Salad- Colorful salad with honey glazed walnuts. A slice of sweet pear was a welcoming surprise. Calamari Appetizer- Strips of calamari on a bed of cabbage topped with parmesan cheese. This is served with two dipping sauces Tartar and Cocktail sauce. Never had served this way and thoroughly enjoyed eating this. I would recommend both starters. Main Course: Ya Ya Roll- Yellowtail roll topped with even more Yellowtail with a dab of siracha sauce and a slice of jalepeno. Be warned this is spicy! Calamari Enchilada roll(Thanks for the recommendation fellow Yelper Les.) Salmon/Avocado on top of a CA roll topped with marinated calamari and cucumber salad. Quite creamy and a delight to eat. Place is not overly expensive, but it will make a dent in your wallet. Look to spend 12 bucks on a roll.

Giving 4 star because of great food! Been going here for a long time. Had the worst most unfriendly service the other night! Two waitresses and neither of them were friendly. Upon arriving blond waitress greets us with "just a minute". We hoped she wasn't our waitress but the other (brunette) wasn't much friendlier! We will go back and hopefully the next time, the service will be better!

My all time favorite sushi restaurant. Awesome rolls and appetizers combined with a great restaurant environment! I recommend the spicy edamame, crunch crunch roll, tuna a la tostada and the firecracker roll. You really can't go wrong with anything, this place is great!

First time here. Food was okay. Sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef's could at least smile and be more friendly. With taking with other customers, they said that the service has pick up and they are more attentive to your needs. Little pricey. Fish is fresh and melts in your mouth. Will have to try this place again and sit at a table next time.

I'm reading all of the reviews and some of them just make me laugh because people are so needy about such petty stuff. Listen, I get no kickbacks from this place, zero discounts and I don't work here lol. I have been coming to this place/location for over 3 years, consistently (twice a month or more if I can). This place is great. Yes, the owners would make great cashiers as one review said, but who cares. I'm there for the food and GOOD food I might add and the service is usually great (sometimes they do get busy, that's what restaurants with good food get sometimes) but 9/10 times they are on top of it, especially when pain-in-the-ass people like myself always need sides of sriracha, spicy mayo and eel sauce lol. The food is great. The fish quality is always A+ and the rolls are amazing and BIG (2 rolls will MORE than fill you up). My gf and I always have the tuna and chips. If you've never had them, you're missing out (IF you like spicy tuna, which she loves). I, on the other hand, start off with a hand roll and always on soy paper and usually have them make me a special hand roll that I just make up (because I'm a pain in the ass and needy remember?) and they make it with a smile. My favorite rolls on the menu are Crunch Dragon and Machu Picchu but I'm still yet to have a roll that I did not like. The place is simply the best and I will continue to come here over and over. Keep up the great work guys, there is a reason this place always has a wait every Friday and Saturday night ;)

Fish In A Bottle is my absolute favorite sushi restaurant. The atmosphere is romantic and the service is always on point. Most importantly the food is delicious! My favorite thing on the menu is the Chilean Sea bass, and for dessert the balsamic glazed strawberries.

Sushi and sashimi excellent quality coming from a regular sashimi fan. Beautiful presentation. Price was excellent compared to some higher priced places and portions were generous especially with the sushi sashimi combo platter for only 26$ and I was FULL. Try the fillet wrapped asparagus appetizer which was a new one for me and delicious. Waitress forgot my salad and to bring out my sake other than that was good service. Outdoor seating is very nice. Our toddler had a hard time sitting still and throwing food around but they were nice about it. Give it a try!

  • Laura S.

Pretty sure they had to go out and fish for and gut our fish. We went on a Friday night, so we were surprised to be seated in 10 minutes, but boy was that misleading. I realize we went at a busy time, but it took them 55 minutes to get us our food. 55 minutes. 55. No joke. At about 45 minutes we asked about the wait, and were told that the sushi bar was backed up because of take out orders. This made us feel like people calling in have higher priority than those who take the time to sit in the restaurant and leave a tip. I was willing to sit and wait because I was hoping the sushi would be really good. Unfortunately it is " higher end" sushi which means your sushi is covered in a bunch of crap, including fish eggs. I suppose if you are looking for something to impress a first date this is a good place to go. Otherwise I would suggest zenko's sushi in mission viejo.

  • Marcy M.

I've been to Fish In A Bottle several times. This place does have its pros and cons. Pros are most of the rolls are really good..my favorite is the Midnight Sun. MachuPichu is also good. I do suggest trying the one that has blueberry jam at least once. It's interesting but surprisingly good. The garlic edamame is pretty tasty here as well, but how can you mess that up? The last time I came here the place smelled really fishy and I was a little turned off. The staff is not very attentive, even when they aren't busy and as a server myself, I'm not sure why that is. Fish In A Bottle is more on the pricy side, that's why we only eat here occasionally. I would suggest making a lunch menu where the rolls aren't so expensive.

  • Susie E.

First and LAST time I will ever eat here. I went with my sister who was treating me and I am thankful of that. She had been referred there by two gals that were in her fitness training class. I really should have consulted yelp* and tried to convince her to go to Sake Sushi & Grill; it is rated higher and was closer to us than Fish In A Bottle. IF you are someone who has never eaten sushi this place would make you NOT want to try it again. I had sashimi and the fish did not taste fresh. The tuna had a slight bitter taste which put me off to the rest of the meal. My sister tried it and agreed that the fish tasted off. I would have mentioned it to the server but she failed at being attentive. She was very slow and did not come to check on our meal experience. She did stop by once to refill my sister's iced tea. I would say if I was an OC douche bag in the mood for an Americanized fusion roll with a hot waitress I would return. Unfortunately I like the food I eat to taste good and at least par service.

Great "modern" sushi place. Faves are Firecracker roll, spicy garlic edamame, tuna a la tostada, baby lobster roll. This is not a traditional sushi place like Taiko in Irvine (a great old school sushi place) but it has a unique, California flare. Love this family owned and operated business. Delish !!!!

Tried this place for the first time last night and the sushi was amazing! I has the salmon and aji sashimi, the spicy crunch roll, and garlic edamame beans. So delish!! I also tried their saki. Forgot the exact name but it was in a pink bottle and was so tasty! Went well with the food. I'm a huge sushi lover and really enjoyed their fish so not sure why this place has negative reviews! Service was great, very attentive server. And ambiance was nice. It is pretty Americanized so not a good spot if you are looking for an authentic Japanese experience but such a cute place for a date night! I can't wait to go back and try the whole menu!

  • Tim W.

Good rolls, terrible steak - $25 rib eye was about the same quality as a $6 steak sandwich from a burger joint. They should remove "grill" from their sign. Waitress told me I should not have ordered steak at a sushi place after asking me about my meal. She should have offered this information before I ordered the shoe leather special. "Well, don't put "grill"on your sign and "steak" on the menu" was my response as they quickly cleared our table and pushed us out the door to make room for the long line of victims waiting to be seated.

I had the dragon roll, crispy salmon roll, and spider. My favorite was the dragon, the spider was a bit soggy. The service was slow. It took about 30 minutes until our food came out but I really did like the atmosphere. Sit in the patio its nicer.

One of my buddies called me up and wanted to drink. Everyone knows it is part of the man's code that you can never let anyone of your buddies drink alone. What better place than fish in a bottle! My friend recommended this place saying that they serve really good sushi. Good sushi in Brea! Really? Let my taste buds be the judge of that. We rolled up around 7:30pm and this place was jammed pack. It was about a 30 minutes wait. I start to get excited. Maybe I was wrong?!? We finally got seated and I let my friend order since she has was a regular. Here is what we ordered: The oyster shooter was filled in a miniature wine glasses and it just looked strange. The oyster was fresh but it had way too much liquid. I had to take 2 gulps. That's pretty bad since I am a professional shot drinker. The Sweet shrimp was not fresh and the deep fried head was just hard to eat. The Spicy scallop hand roll was on steroids. There was a lot of scallop and tons of rice. This hand roll almost filled me up. It's never good when you see a hand roll stuffed with that much rice. Talk about Carb overload! Salmon and Toro sashimi - The salmon and toro sashimi was like butter. It melted in your mouth! For the rolls, we went with Baja, YaYa, Bora Bora, and Philadelphia. We were starving and started to attack the rolls like wolves. Little did we know that the server mixed up our order, so I did not know what was what. The server apologized and asked if we wanted to keep the order. I was so pissed and over this place that we just cancelled our order. The best part of the night was the booze and good friends. They should have kept all the fish/sushi in the bottle and throw it back in the ocean.

Hands down my favorite sushi place. All traditional sushi is available. Suggest Yellow Fin Tuna, Toro, octopus, specialty scallop, and Sweet Shrimp Sushi. Would suggest that you sit a the sushi bar as service at tables can be really slow otherwise. What clearly distinguishes Fish In A Bottle from most other places is their Ya Ya Roll. The roll contains spicy yellowtail (hamachi), cilantro, cucumber and suggest that you add avocado. Ingredients are then rolled in a rice seaweed wrap and toped with a slice of hamachi/yellow tail and a sliver of jalapeño with a drop of Sriracha Hot Sauce and drizzled with ponzu sauce. Original and very good! Japanese Ceviche!

Still my favorite! BF and I had a nice dinner here last night. It has been at least 5 months since I have dined here, and I was craving it bad! They have a new outdoor patio that we sat on. The heaters work great out there so you can't even tell you are outside. I'm glad they built the patio because the wait here used to be atrocious sometimes. Now that they have more seating there is no more waiting! Of course I ordered the spicy garlic edamame and the Macchu Picchu roll, it's my regular meal here. Neither disappointed :) BF decided to try new stuff last night. He went with the Honeymoon roll and the Blue Mountain roll. The Honeymoon roll had bacon, onions & cucumber - no fish. It was not for me. The pieces were way too big and the roll was dry due to all the crunchy bacon. BF liked it, but I wouldn't have it again. The Blue Mountain sounded bizarre...crab, avocado, mozzarella cheese and blueberry jam. It was served warm so the cheese was melted...this was surprisingly delicious! The jam was sweet, the cheese was mild. These were also big rolls, I had to eat them in two bites. It was really good though and I would definitely order this again. I love Fish in a Bottle and I can't wait to eat here again!

With a trendy "casual elegance" atmosphere, that feels out of place, Fish in a Bottle serves up 2 star quality sushi at 4 star prices. Skip this place and go down the street to Oishi.

They have great food! Came here around 12:30 pm on a Thursday and it was pretty busy. We were seated right away. We decided to try the teriyaki steak from the lunch menu. Very tasty and the steak was tender. Next time, I will try the lunch sushi special. Will definitely be back.

Went here for the first time on Valentines Day. We actually had a really pleasant experience overall. This is the perfect place for sushi lovers to dine with their non-sushi lover friends. I am not a huge fan of sushi and there were rolls that included steak and asparagus. I ended up getting a roll that was similar to a club sandwich. I probably wouldn't pick this place, but this is a sushi place I can at least stomach when my friends want sushi.

Tucked away in the corner of a Placentia shopping area lies one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever experienced: Fish in a Bottle. Driving by you would barely notice it was there...from the outside Fish in a Bottle blends in nicely with the surrounding buildings. It's a small restaurant, with only a 8-10 seat sushi bar, a few indoor tables, and a decently sized outdoor patio with space heaters. Attire is casual (as is for most sushi bars), and the decor is pleasant, but nothing special. Atmopshere during lunchtime is quiet and relaxing, but it can get a bit cramped and hectic during dinnertime for my taste. Either way, I always enjoy my experience. When I visit for dinner I typically order (and share) a sashimi appetizer, a roll, and a Sapporo, which is usually more than enough to fill me up. Fish in a Bottle offers a wide variety of unique sushi rolls that include options such a steak or chicken. You really can't go wrong with the rolls...I've had most of them and although I have my favorties, I have yet to try one I didn' thoroughly enjoy. On a busy day, parking right near the restaurant can be a bit of a pain, since the main bulk of the parking lot is away from the restaurant. If you're lucky you'll score one of the few spots near the restaurant, otherwise you'll have a short walk. Not a big deal for me, but something to be aware of. As I've mentioned, the restaurant itself is on the smaller side, so seating will be limited...expect to wait at least 15-30 minutes for dinner on busy nights. I recommend checking it out for lunch if you want a less hectic, more private experience. Prices at Fish in a Bottle are reasonable for a sushi restaurant, with a typical roll costing between $10 to $12. For me, the check tends to be on the higher side, since the delicious rolls, sashimi, appetisers, and beer selection keep me ordering. explorernation.com/2013/…

Walked in. Young man was hosting but on the phone for quite awhile. We only saw one server for the entire restaurant. Host got off the phone and looked at us without saying anything. I asked if there was room for us on the patio. Without looking, he said, "Not for you". I was waiting for a chuckle or maybe he mistook me for someone else. We saw two open tables, set and ready. We sat down to wait. Another table cleared; nothing. A couple came in and were seated. Another table cleared. After 25 minutes we left and vowed never to return. We were in plain view of him at all times. It was the single most bizarre experience we have ever encountered at a restaurant. No thank-you.

This was our second time eating in this establishment and much like the first time, we were not disappointed! The staff was courteous and prompt, and our rolls were delivered to our table in "waves" as we requested. Again, our favorite rolls were the Machu Pichu, Crunch Crunch, Red Dragon & Rainbow. Pair any of those with sine Sapporo and you've got one helluva meal! We'd love to see a restaurant open up in Northern California, and even mentioned it on the way out. Until then, we'll be satisfied with our visits whenever we're in town!

Service was horrible. Waiters and host were very rude. Food was ok. Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

I'm the annoying guy that goes to a sushi place but doesn't order seafood. Not a fan but my girlfriend has to have it at times. We usually go around lunch time and it's not too busy. I usually get the teriyaki chicken and its decent. I also usually get the club roll which is seafood free (a plus for me of course). My girlfriend has not had a complaint about the sushi. She usually gets the caterpillar roll and a yellowtail hand roll. Overall great for her cravings because I don't feel as left out. And not bad pricings either.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! This is my favorite sushi place and my boyfriend and I come here about once a month! My mom is also a fanatic and I'm always running into her there. My all time favorite is the Spicy Tuna dip with chips and their yummy sauce. All that sushi is good and if your not in the mood for sushi they have some good dinner entrees and I recommend the pork chops! For dessert you have to try the strawberries! It is a very unique recipe and I always have to get it when I go!

For Japanese fusion, this place is pretty good! They mostly specialize in rolls, with an extensive list of unique rolls I've never seen elsewhere. They have rolls with mango on top, one with ribeye steak, others with baby lobster, etc. The rolls are HUGE and decently priced, ranging from $11-15. Even though this is more of a roll place, we decided to give some of the sushi a shot. Everything we got was better than average, except maybe the salmon, which was inedible. I really liked the Hawaiian Ono, Yellowtail, and Albacore pieces. Try the seared stuff - we got seared yellowtail and seared albacore and I have to say those were my favorites of the night!! Service is very slow and the food took awhile to come out, but that's my one gripe... few complaints on the actual food.

When I think of where to get great sushi, the city Placentia will be the last place I would think of...until now. This place is AMAZING! My friend and I ordered a sashimi sampler, red dragon roll, and midnight sun roll. The Midnight Sun roll was definitely the winner. This roll was bursting with flavor. It contained crab, avocado, and cream cheese. On top was salmon baked to perfection with special sauce on top. Surrounding the roll was fried onions, jalapeños, and tobiko. Gosh i'm drooling writing about it. The Red Dragon roll is your typical california roll with ahi tuna on top with tobiko on top. The Sashimi Sampler was great. Jose, the chef, was very generous with the portion. The fish was so fresh...practically melted in your mouth. Super delicious. This place is right down the street from my house and I am so sad I now just tried it out. I should have given it a chance when i first opened...but hey it's in Placentia...I never thought of it as a city to have awesome sushi. I was definitely wrong for thinking so. The best part is...everything is reasonably priced. Specialty rolls usually go for at least 15 dollars...but here...from what I remember...most of the specialty rolls were $9.95 and under. The service is spectacular, the waitress came by every so often to make sure we were okay and cleared out any plates when we were done with them. I must warn you though, if you plan on going for dinner, prepare to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes. We got there at 7pm on a Friday night and had to wait about 30 minutes. I was so surprised to see a sushi joint in Placentia so poppin'. I'm in love with this place and I definitely plan on come back on a regular basis. Hope this review helps! =)

2 stars because of the poor service we received. Once the host sat us down, it took at least 10 minutes for someone to come by to offer us a menu and take our drink orders. That's a little long, isn't it? The restaurant was pretty full, but it wasn't "busy", if you know what I mean. There wasn't a crowd of people waiting to be seated. That said, it took forever for a waiter to come take our orders. And he blamed it on another waiter for being late. Sorry, son, the blame is on you. We ordered a rice plate and a few rolls. The last roll didn't come until we were almost done and ready to go. The waiter blamed it on the chef for the roll being late. The kid was making bad excuses all night. The food? Just like any other sushi place. The tip? What tip?

I happen to be a huge fan of fusion sushi rolls with crazy sauces so this is right up my alley. Half the menu is comprised of the rolls! The combination of ingredients in the rolls can be hit or miss but the place gets bumped from a 3 star to a 4 star review because it's Placentia and frankly, any place that widens the culinary perspective out in the North 'OC burbs is worth an extra star. Best roll of the night: CALAMARI ENCHILADA roll. It was a california roll wrapped with salmon, and marinated calamari and cucumber salad over the the top. The creaminess of the salmon & avocado in the cucumber roll went well with the crunch, vinegary bite of the calamari and cuke salad. I'm not sure why it was called 'enchilada' because i don't remember anything spicy. SOFT SHELL CRAB ROLL: Good version. Nothing special. whole plate is strewn with fried tempura bits and other assorted crunchies. FRENCH KISS. I think this was tuna, krab salad, cream cheese and fried onions on top. The onions had clearly been pre-fried so they were now limp and soggy. Disappointment.

This is my favorite reasonably priced sushi place in OC. The sashimi melts in your mouth and their cooked rolls are always extremely flavorful. My wife and I go there whenever we want good sushi and we have never been disappointed. We have lived in Yorba Linda for a number of years and have tried all the local sushi restaurants and this is hands down our favorite and most consistent.

Rice was soggy!! How can you miss that in a sushi place? The sashimi was also warm! Would not recommend to anyone.

Sashimi was lukewarm and the sushi rice was way too wet. Pricey for the quality - you are better off going to Oshima and eating real sushi!

If there is an option for 1.5, I will give 1.5 instead of 2. My friend said we will eat this place so I yelped it the day before and it has good ratings and the pictures looked delicious! But, i'm quite disappointed. Readers be aware: 1. Conversation privacy - this is not the place 2. on a date, especially if this is your first or second or even third date... THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. 1. The table next to us is less than 5 ft from you. It's close to the point if I extend my arm, i can touch ppl's shoulder. It's forcing me to eavesdropping. My right side was a woman complaining to a guy about all sort of stuffs and his daughter was bored out of her mind. My left side was two woman catching up and having conversation about "their friends"... Okie... food crtique... VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING... We ordered Vegas roll, Cruch roll (tempura shrimp in it), salmon roll, Spur ___ roll, and spicy garlic peas for appetizer... After we placed the order, my friend decided to try their uni roll since they didn't have spur ___ roll. My friend asked to put shiso leaves on the uni. The waitress asked "what is that?" I was in shock!! It's a common thing in Japanese restaurant, even if you don't know, the proper service is remembered and walked to the chefs and asked. NOT asked the customer!!! So my friend had to explain is a minty leave. OKie.. the appetizer came.. I ate it and it was HOT as out of the pot... TRADITION pod peas are COLD. If they want to make it garlic and spicy they should have marinated with the pod peas for at least 1 hr to let the flavor go in to the peas. The peas didn't taste anything because they boil it with the spice which you can't taste the garlic or spice.. it looks spicy no flavors went in. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I would suggest them put a little salt when they boil. The table for two is kind of small for the size of plate the food comes in. You barely have space to eat... 2. Food came in BIG PLATES and waitress gave us SMALL plates to put our roll. It's like 3 by 3 plate and the roll size IS 3 by 3 .. THIS IS WHY IS NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR A DATE. Good thing my friend and i know for a while; otherwise, I will leave bad impression. If you tried to cut in half, some of the tempura crumbs will fall off the plate. If you try to eat one bite, the crumbs will fall off and it will not land on your plate! IF you have a small mouth, you are facing a challenge how to eat CLEAN and not look messy instead of enjoying the food. Rolls... Vegas roll.. It was not the same from the picture!! They forgot to put the eel sauce around the plate to decorate.. They were not even busy so I dont know how they can forget with 4 chefs!!! The onions were over fried. not enough salt and mayo for the crab meat. The crunchy roll... the shrimp tempura, they didn't use the big size shrimp that you supposed to use for tempura. Shrimp was pretty skinny too wrap. The rice was soggy. Salmon Roll... its not as fresh but i guess that's okay.. but it was room temperature or semi warm.. that kinded taste nasty. Uni roll.. I didn't eat it.. The waitress did not come and check on us after gave us all our food.. my friend wanted to order sashimi. We waited for like 10 minutes to place the order and wait another 10 minutes to turn in the order! We ordered Salmon Sashimi afterwards... It was okay.. One of the pieces had an eyelash w/ mascara.. YUCK! we were looking at the salmon and the waitress came to our table and my friend point and asked what is this?! I think it's eyelash. She responded "I don't know.. I will ask the chef" It's an eyelash!!! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO ASK THE CHEF ABOUT?! It's sashimi, what else do you expect to be on there?! You should said, I'm sorry, let me give you a new one.. They didn't give you additional "small" plate for you to put wasabi and soy sauce so it was a challenge to eat the roll and sashimi by dripping soy sauce on your sashimi/roll w/o getting your plate all wet.. We didn't asked for the check but she just gave to us, which was a little rude.. didn't ask if we want dessert or anything.. anyways.. it doenst matter. Another lady came back to sign the receipt.. instead of giving to my friend, who is a guy... She gave it to me!! First of all, COMMON KNOWLEDGE, if you see a guy and girl... ALWAYS ALWAYS give the check to the guy.. not girl! My friend finded a little offended but I couldn't but laugh.. Service was not good.. with the amount of waitress (4 or 5 waiter/waitress) and 4 chefs... The service can be faster and better. I really don't want to come again... but IF I do, i will definetly yelp again to update.

Hate it when a place has good food but bad service and is poorly managed. I try to swear it off for the poor customer service but we literally have crap to choose from in this area, so I'll bitch and moan with no results and end up going back there once my grudge holding is over.

We went here for an early Valentine's dinner and it was a decent experience. We ordered the Gold Dragon roll, Sashimi Sampler, and the Chiliean Sea Bass entree. The good: Atmosphere, plate design, and fresh fish. The not-so-good: Long wait, seared sashimi had a chemically foul odor to it unlike most seared fish I've had. Overall: It's a pretty modern and fun place to hang out. I wouldn't recommend this place for large groups because most seating is for pairs and it can be crowded at peak hours, but if you're looking for a casual lunch or dinner place for two or a few friends, it's not a bad spot. I'd come back to try the rest of the menu.

I'm a bit torn in regards to this review. I have now eaten at FIAB twice and both times left me wanting. Both times I was alone and both times I ate at the sushi bar. Both, again, Fridays. Scene #1: Went for dinner at 5:30pm. The place was packed. They seemed to ignore me and it took a long time to get anything from the kitchen (drinks, miso), although the sushi chefs were on par given how busy the restaurant was. I decided that this wasn't because of an ineptness in waiting on a sole client, but because of shear amount of people there that night. Several months later... Scene #2: I'm in for a late lunch to celebrate completing my thesis defense. It's about 2:30pm. I'm the only person inside the restaurant when I arrive. The few clients they had then were on the patio. A party of three entered ten minutes after me and immediately received menus from wait staff. I had to ask for one a few moments later -- and it did not arrive with an apology. The waiter would continue to serve the other party before me. No one else entered the restaurant after that. Both times, service was outright awful. The food, however, is tasty, innovative, and fresh. I will probably go back to FIAB, but I won't be going out of my way nor will I take friends there.

The first time I was asked to go here, I was a little nervous due to the name. Fish in a Bottle didn't really sound that appetizing and I didn't know what to expect. However, upon going I was pleasantly surprised. I would have to say my favorites are one of two rolls, the ya-ya or the crunch-crunch. Apparently they are so good thay named it the same thing twice. The teriyaki steak is also a good choice, served with a salad and rice. Service has always been fast and friendly. There is a sushi bar at which you can sit or you can opt for the general seating area or an outside patio. All in all, it is a nice surprise to my expectations.

Kevin took me here to impress me with this hidden gem when we first started dating (he thinks its uber cool to eat at really good restaurants that don't look it on the outside). And lucky for him, impress me it did. Fish in a bottle has very cute atmosphere with dim lighting and sushi bar decor. We were sat at a small table for two, and needless to say, this place is very tight. We ordered soft-shell crab appetizer that was amazing. Two tempura battered crabs each sat on top of a slice of a tomato that met the same fate, finished with a drizzling of sauce and presented on a gigantic plate well garnished. The salmon entree we ordered was also presented in the same way: fabulous! Unfortunately, our table was so small you could only fit one gigantic plate at a time. But fortunately, we finished the appetizer just as dinner came. ( I can't imagine how we would've solved the problem if we both had ordered an entree!) This is a place for people who want to experiment with sushi in an global kitchen meets sushi mat kindda way. They have rolls like Chicken Cordon Bleu, the Tuscan Roll and the Cowboy Roll that use not so common place sushi ingredients such as cheese and sundried tomatoes. Make sure you are ready to experiment because flavor combinations that may sound appetizing might end up being too weird for your palate. All in all, this place is one of our favs. The staff is friendly, the food is out of the ordinary AND out of this world, good portions, fresh ingredients and wonderful presentation.

If you can, try coming here M-Th because during the weekend it's super packed. We went on a Friday and waited for a good 30-40 minutes outside in the cold (we couldn't even wait inside because it was so packed and the place is tiny). Once we were seated, the service was decent. The menu was full of options to the point that I couldn't decide which roll to get because they all sounded soooo good! I ended up ordering the Mountain roll and was not disappointed. It 's a spicy tuna roll wrapped with baked salmon and topped with a cream sauce and fried onions (just thinking about it makes my mouth water). The presentation of the food here is awesome. Anyway, the food here is excellent, but I deducted a star due to the long wait and small venue.

Seriously delicious sushi. I am so picky about my Sushi places and didn't believe my parents when they said they found a new and better sushi place but Fish in a bottle has an amazing selection of rolls and they are a great size too! Can't wait to go back!

I was thrilled to see this place as i've been wanting to try it for awhile. My boyfriend and I happened to pass this place and decided to try it. It's a small place and very clean. I found the food tasty but my boyfriend absolutely loved it. because it is such a small space it's a bit cramped but the decor and neatness does not suffer. The rolls are BIG which is always a plus...typical price-wise. The waitresses also all have flowers in their hair and everyone looks very neat. Definitely plan to return

as the star rating indicates its O.K. atmosphere is nice you can sit on the patio or in doors. however the food is just O.K price is a bit inflated for the quality of food. if you like good sushi find another place but if you live nearby and don't want to drive far, then its fine.

Flavor ful! We tried this place because a co-worker recommended it.. and it was a very pleasant surprise! My favorite roll is the Mango Tango ... (shrimp tempura, cilantro, roasted red bell pepper and mango on top) Delicious! We also liked the Baked Baby Lobster. It's fun to go with a large group and order as many different rolls as possible so that you can sample each one. Not your traditional sushi joint..

Considering how much I enjoyed my time eating and simply being here, and considering how I'm still excited to go take my mother with me next time, I'm having a hard time grading this place. The food is great. Not phenomenal, not original, not mind blowing, but enough to exclaim at first bite, "This is really good!" The portions are generous but not overbearing. The fish is fresh, but not still twitching fresh. They have the best vinegared rice I've ever had, but I don't know how many others take rice into consideration for their sushi. The atmosphere was the extra icing on the cake. The really non-cheesy Christmas decorations helped, but it was the understated classy-- the trendy without the hokey. Considering that the other Japanese restaurants are rather unimaginative in this area, it's really remarkable. Eating here, I forgot I was in Yorba "quiet hometown of Richard Nixon" Linda, and could have thought I was back in New York City, eating at a well-respected, moderately priced, non-hyped but still well known West Village neo-sushi place. The big question is, how do I grade all this? It's good, but not phenomenal. Is that a 3 or a 4? If a place is good overall, but considering the rather lacking culinary environment of the area, should it be upgraded to a 5? Ah. 4 seems like the least headache-inducing number. Also, a lot of people complained about the service. My friend and I waited a bit (wasn't too long), and we were promptly served thereafter. Everyone was more than courteous, and was perhaps one of the best experience in a good 10 mile radius.

I had to update because as many times as I've been here, the service has gotten worse and worse. If you don't want to be a waitress I understand, but don't take it out on your customers. The waitress I had last night was absolutely intolerable. I can't believe she still has a job. I understand that fish in a bottle gets really busy, but you don't need to take it out on me. 1. When we arrived, we waited about 15 minutes for her to take our DRINK order. When she first greeted us, she was holding two arms full of dirty dishes and she asked "What do you guys want to drink?" in the most condescending way possible. My friend had called ahead and asked the manager to put two wine glasses in the freezer... yes, he may be particular, but we frequent this place so much that they know he likes a chilled wine glass. They even great us by name when we come in now. 2. She spilled wine all over the table, which obviously was an accident and I did feel bad for her because she really didn't mean to, but the way she apologized for it was insincere, which made me then think she DID mean to. 3. I'm pretty sure she hated us. 4. I know my group is a little picky, but I have food allergies, and we all have different taste buds... so when I tell you what I want, and the rest of my party tells you what they want, don't make it a point to be a bitch about my shellfish allergies. This is NOT the first time we have had bad customer service here, and it's making me question whether i'd like to go back anymore or not, and we come here every single Tuesday, and we have been for the past 3 months.... Come on FIAB, get it together.

If I had to sum it up, I'd say Marie Calendars meets sushi restaurant. It may be the So Cal strip mall square that made me just feel mediocre about this place, but I just didn't feel any love worth writing home about. Fun atmosphere? Not really. Loud but not really fun. Cool lighting or funky decor? No. Just standard ambient restaurant lighting. Particularly interesting or helpful wait staff? No. Nothing bad, but nothing to go back for. Just no vibe at all. The Sashimi was tasty, the menu was fully of cool sushi rolls, some very unconventional concepts that if I were interested in a beef tip sushi roll I may LOVE. But I'm not. The sake list was extensive. But it all felt empty at the end. Is it me?

This place is great! You can't beat their salmon lunch special. It's $9.95 and includes a good chunk of salmon cooked to perfection, rice, vegetables and a yummy salad. My daughter tried the Bora Bora roll and loved it!

We frequent here and the food is always delicious. However, some of the speciality rolls are a bit too unique. I recommend the garlic spicy edamame to start off and the Manchu pichu roll as the entree. The crunchy roll is always a good alternative to anyone who is new to sushi. I have tried pretty much all the rolls and I still continue to come back so thats always a good sign. The down side to this restaurant is the horrible service from a select server (yea you Jessica) if u get her as your server I hope you have patience as her customer service or there lack of is horrible. On the plus side, If you get ANY of the other servers they are all very sociable and friendly. Its all the luck of the draw i guess.

What a hit!! The place has a great location and great sushi that is interesting and not just your boring, get anywhere rolls. They actually have interesting combo's especially the yellow tuna and chili's. Good stuff. The Asahi beer is served in large bottles and wonderfully cold. I almost could just drink the Asahi and forget about the sushi. The place works and is so worth the wait if there is a line, or if you're dumb enough to not make a reservation. As for a first date, I would take her here for sure!! A second date is a place that would run on garlic. Can't have a gf who doesnt like sushi or cant eat garlic. The patio is nice but nicer on a cool evening. I mean really, who goes to eat sushi for lunch while it tries to cook in the sun??? Go in the evening to enjoy the terrace and the creative sushi. If you end up having to wait, be smart and order some drinks to pass the time. Now off to find me a girlfriend.......who likes sushi and garlic (not in the same dish)........

if i had yelp when i started going to this restaurant, i'd have a bajillion check ins. instead of one. that's how often i frequent this place. i've eaten my way through most of the roll menu and decided that the french kiss roll ((salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, cream cheese, avocado, cucumber, crabmix, shrimp tempura inside topped with fried masago onions)) and the baked baby lobster roll. the crunch crunch, rainbow, caterpillar, golden dragon, midnight sky rolls are all good, too. a very unique menu item this restaurant has is the cowboy roll. steak, greens and gorgonzola cheese. while quite the novelty, it's just not good. when i think sushi, i want my seafoods, complementing the sushi rice. steak and gorgozola cheese do not complement sushi rice IMO. as far as sashimi goes, salmon is my absolute favorite and it's fantastic here ! always super fresh with that smooth, buttery delicious taste. the hamachi ((yellowtail)) was also really fresh when i sampled off of my friend's order. the ika ((squid)) sashimi is good, too. i'm also a fan of the salmon specialty nigiri. it's a long slice of salmon topped with mango, avocado and jalapeno over rice with ponzu sauce. my favorite appetizer is the baby lobster avocado spring rolls ! yum yum yum ! four pieces of deep fried, wrapped up avocado and lobster served up hot with a mango chutney dipping sauce ! soo good. i'm not a veggie eater, but i find myself eating the cabbage garnish with the sauce. i had the jalapeno poppers, and my friend and i had a hard time finishing them. they're very filling and could use more of a kick. filled with cream cheese and tempura deep fried it's a little too heavy for me. the jalapeno crab stuffed green mussels are my median i guess between the two appetizers i just mentioned. it was a lot of topping ! a LOT of topping ! so if you're not a crab mix FANATIC, i would pass this one up. buried underneath the crab mix is a tasty little mussel morsel. the calamari delight is really fun looking ! and actually not too bad. skewered up, rolled up calamari with julienned carrots and masago onions on the bottom. the seared sashimi salad is a mixed greens salad topped with perfectly seared pieces of sashimi with a shoyu ((soy-sauce)) wasabi ? dressing. haha, tasty nonetheless. the crab and baby lobster stuff baked red snapper was SO DELICIOUS. covered in a light creamy sauce and served up with a big ol' mound of slaw. by far the most delicious entree is the rib eye steak and grilled shrimp with mashed potatoes. the steak was cooked perrrrfectly and super juicy. the shrimps were large and the mashed potatoes divine. the side of veggies i didn't try, but considering the rest, i wish i had ordered this meal ! i kept stealing samples from my nine-year old cousin :] at nights and on weekends, especially for dinner, this place can get packed. to me, it's worth the wait ! i've sat outside on their patio, inside and at the bar. i've had a great experience throughout. i frequently get takeout and it's still really, really good. also, the best deal is to get rolls. ((they're max like $11-$12 i believe)) entrees are a little more expensive. two-three rolls are good for a couple people. + an appetizer ? i just wanna order it all ! they have really good iced tea.

The food is good, the service is okay. The sushi rolls here are reasonably priced and they have a wide variety of rolls to choose from. My party and I tried the fresh rolls, crunch rolls, and even a steak roll. The steak roll was really filling and perfect for my friend who doesn't like fish. I have to say the Crunch crunch roll was my favorite by far. We went on a Friday night as a party of 5 and we waited over an hour for a table. There were a significant amount of parties who came after us who got seated before us. Once we were seated, it took a very long time for one of my friends to get their drink and the waiter messed up one of our roll orders. At the end of the meal we waited over 10 minutes for the waiter to bring back our check with my card in it. I understand that it was busy, but decent service is still expected, especially since we waited so long for a table. I rate it as a 3 because the food was good, and the atmosphere is nice. I would recommend going here for lunch, but if you go for dinner, be prepared for delayed service.

Not a big sushi person but I am glad they have alternatives for it at every restaurant I have been to. Usually the selection outside of sushi is pretty decent and this place did have some pretty good eats. Went on a late Friday night and had about a 30 minute wait (although was told only 10). I did get a bit concerned when a couple who came in well over 15 mins than our group got seated before us and another couple waiting. The other couple asked what was going on and, clearly angry because they were being told it would be another 15 mins (I don't know how long they were waiting because they arrived before we did and 15 mins had already passed) and then they quickly left. So we waited and finally got seated before the group that came in after us (I was thinking a second group going before would have been the death of this place ... to me). I think I should preface this review with the fact of the waiting time and the irate potential customers that left which, to me, is bad. So finally sitting down and tried out the crab cakes which were a little salty for my taste but overall not too bad. I did order a dinner plate which I chose the miso soup ... I have had WAY better and it's miso soup! Really, not a complicated soup if you ask me but lacked a lot of flavor. I ordered the steak and shrimp dish with the green tea mashed potatoes. The potatoes were pretty good with the sauce around it and the shrimp were fine, kind of small and just two. The meat was ordered medium-well but it was way over cooked but the flavor was decent. The sushi that was ordered looked pretty nice presentation wise but I did not eat any. Aside from the front of the house staff being a little misstepped, the wait staff was very good although they never refilled my water. Overall I would probably go again but not anxious for it. The quality versus the price versus the overall service ... just fair and not really that worth it. Favorite dish: The mashed potatoes on my plate were very good but that was about it. Go out and EAT!

Have heard rave reviews about this place so we (husband and two kids with me) decided to go last friday at 6pm. We were seated right away on the patio which was nice because the tables are all very close together and a little claustraphobic inside. Even outside we definately heard the conversations from neighboring tables. We were served promptly and the server took our Yorba Linda local discount card without attitude (entitles bearer to free non alcoholic beverages with meal). Here's the food review: Wasabi chicken nuggets-daughter liked them, but dissapointed they were listed as being served with "asian slaw", When she asked server if she could have some edamame instead she was told no and there was no asian slaw and the menu was not updated to show it was actually served with salad. She asked if there was any other side she could have and was told no. (I hate when reasonable substitution requests are refused, give the 12 year old some steamed veggies for gosh sakes!) She didn't touch the mixed greens with beet slivers. Sushi-Husband and 13 year old son loved it. Butterfly roll was great, mountain roll had interesting flavors and tuna was good. Server was not very knowledgeable about what was in rolls when asked (she seemed to know little about the menu, surprisingly, even though we told her it was our frirst time so we had some menu questions. She did not offer to find out either!) Seared Ahi tuna with pumpkin seed crust-When I ordered this the server made a point to say, "you know seared is raw, right?" I assured her I did know and that is how I like my ahi. When the $25 entree came I was glad to see the generous slices of tuna atop a bed of mixed veggies and sushi rice however the tuna was totally overcooked which ruined the taste of it. Flesh was peach colored and not pink and the texture was off. The pumpkin crust would be great on another fish, but here it just overpowered the tuna. This entree was a real dissapointment for the cost. This entree came with a choice of miso soup or salad and the salad was a terrific mix of mixed greens with candied walnuts and a cinnamon pear slice. My husband said he would definately be back for the sushi, but I would stay away from the rest of the menu to make your visit worthwhile.

Love this place. Great sushi and friendly service. Try to eat here weekly. Always have a Blue Mountain roll for dessert.

This is very nice! Both my wife and I enjoyed the dinning experience and their food is fresh and good. Their sashimi sampler was fresh and great. Love the hamachi slice! My wife liked their Las Vegas roll and Twin Peaks. Both of which are "cooked" seafood. Alas, that's how she likes her Japanese food... Presentations are outstanding as well. I think I will go back there again to try other dishes.

Yorba Linda favorite for lots of locals. Amazing Sushi and Rolls with a variety of other options. Clean and modestly priced. I like the Firecracker Roll... spicey!

Ok, I love this place for a couple different reasons. First, I had never had sushi in my life! I thought it's a little odd to eat something not cooked and probably cause an influx of e-coli. But my girlfriends dragged me to this "secret, low-key sushi spot. I honestly didn't want to waste my money, but decided to tag along and get a bowl of white rice instead of the raw food. Well, suffice it to to say I LOVE THE SUSHI! Oh my goodness the ambiance is soft and romantic but not stuffy. This has been one of my favorite places to eat with my girls after a long work week. The staff are kind, the sushi chefs are efficients and have a bit of witty sarcasm that I adore. A few times we would come in 25 minutes before closing and they just smile and seat us and take our orders. Such a nice place, perfect date atmosphere and just overall a chill spot. I tooka star off because it is kind of too dark at times, other than that it's great

We would have rated higher but their service is sub-par and the servers attitudes seem like they really do not want to be there??? BUT, Sushi is good (not great) but really good.

I asked for uni (sea urchin) the clueless waitress brought eel. We had to ask for Little bowls for soy sauce. we had to ask for little plates for our food. We had to ask the hostess for refills. Read other reviews if you don't believe me the service here sucks the Carl Jr across the way has better service. But its not the waitress or staffs fault its the cheap ass management that one did train the staff on sushi and two did not staff enough people because the waitress was the only waitress for every table in the restaurant, and the host was too busy on his phone to bother to help. Its OC sushi so the wasabi is bland and everything is cooked or so overly prepared that you forget what your eating. AKA old lady sushi...fancy roles covered in sauce avocado and fried onions. And why is everything a roll. Food tasted OK 2 stars for okay, and i went for a cousins birthday and the company was more important than the location.... Look elsewhere if you want more authentic Japanese food Go here if show is more important that flavor and you don't really like sushi.

Unless you have no other options for sushi........ still don't come here. Get some Molca Salsa or instant ramen. I had the nigiri sampler which came with 5 different kinds of fish and one shrimp. Hopes sank with each bite, making me kick myself more for not picking up some pastrami from The Hat. The fish was not fresh, each was mealy, chewy or very fishy smelling. As for the rice, there was too much. Each grain was dried a bit and chalky. Just awful. I did not have the heart to finish the last two pieces of fish or even try the shrimp. I have NEVER not finished nigiri until this night. This changes the meaning of 'bad sushi' for me. Ok enough bashing. The decor, music, and atmosphere of this place was modern, upbeat, and comfy, respectively. To my surprise the salad that came with the sampler was nothing ive seen at a Japanese place and it was decent. It was mixed greens with candied walnuts, dijon balsamic vinaigrette, and a slice of pear(poached?). They did seem to have a big selection of special rolls though, if you're into that. Wouldn't the icky fish be in that too? Yes! But to quote Anthony Bourdain, "An ounce of sauce covers a multitude of sins" Lured with nice reviews here and a pretty waitress ne'er again!

Location is good. The service was actually not bad, thought it would be with reading some reviews. Had lunch with a friend. We came right before the big crowd came in for lunch.. :) So, if you can come just a bit early for lunch or dinner. We had the Crunch, crunch.. so so yummy! That was my favorite, so far. We also had the Lobster something...it is the second item on the "roll menu". Very tasty. The sushi platter was delightful. All the delicious food was tasty and fresh. The gal who served us was friendly and helpful...Being that it was our first time there! Two thumbs up! Will be going for lunch again!! Oh almost forgot the Salad...Wow! The salad was super delicious!! Thank you for a very nice lunch!!

Giving 3 stars because the host made us waited outside for 30 minutes in the cold so they can wait to pull up another table for our large group. The additional guests that will require the additional table didn't arrive till later so they could have sat us first and let us order drinks and appetizers. Also the hostess was really rude and tempermental but I put her in her place. The food is great, however I will not spend my $ here ever again. First impression always holds true to me.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I ordered the Macchu Picchu roll and it was bomb.com ! It had shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and cucumber inside, and jalapeno crab mix on top. It was absolutely delicious. We sat outside on a beautiful Monday afternoon...it wasn't crowded at all. Only thing I didn't like was the garlic chili edamame. It was too spicy for my taste, and my boyfriend said it was too garlic-y. But I would 100% go back! If you're in the area and want some fresh delicious sushi, this is definitely the place to go.

I give this place a 2 from a vegetarian and non-vegetarian standpoint, because the food was so-so: i.e. it was edible but not delicious by any means. I have had sushi that tasted SO MUCH better. Which is unfortunate, because they have a full vegan platter, which is unusual in OC sushi places, so I was very excited to try it. The good parts: the avocado was very fresh and my girlfriend ordered the terriyaki chicken, which was HUGE and she said it tasted very good (it was all white meat, which is super important). The vegetable tempura (and shrimp, since my gf got that!) was pretty good, though they had tempura peppers thrown in there. To me, that was an odd flavor. But their tempura sauce was pretty good. My gf also got a California Roll (she judges all sushi places by their ability to make a good cali roll), which she said was "just okay". Pretty average unfortunately. The vegetable rolls were OKAY...though there was some weird stuff in one of them that made it somewhat disgusting as a last bite. However, it was all very very fresh, and once I added the pickled ginger to it, the rolls tasted much better. The service was indeed a bit slow, but I saw the owner walking around helping out. It was a Tuesday evening (8pm), and it was packed--we got the last table, though there was bar seating. Overall, the food was so-so. Fresh but nothing I haven't had before. I would not mind trying it once more and giving their "Tuscan roll" a shot (it was tomato, pine nuts, balsamic sauce, and cheese I think; kind of like a bruschetta roll lol). That and the vegan platter were the only vegetarian MEALS on the menu.

I just signed up to review on Yelp after so many years of going to Fish in a Bottle. This little gem is exceptional. Your sushi is outstanding and the beauty of your work is exceptional. I have been to this restaurant at least 6 times in 2 years and have always been so happy with everything ordered. THANK YOU

My in-laws has been dying to bring me to Fish in a Bottle. So, for my b-day, they brought me there! When I heard it was fusion, I was having doubts. My husband and I had our occasional foodie adventure, and anything we tried with the word "fusion" in it, had failed us badly. My father-in-law asked me to yelp Fish in a Bottle. My main concern was that it wasn't a place for kids. I was bringing my two boys (age 3 years and age 5 months). My in-laws only get to see their grand sons once a month, so I'm bringing them anyways! My in-laws had a favorite server. Steve accommodated to every need we all needed. They didn't have a kids menu for my 3 year old, but Steve suggested the Tokyo chicken which was basically grilled chicken nugget with a bowl of rice, and a side of teriyaki sauce. My eldest loves chicken, loves rice, and loves to dip his chicken. My husband had the caterpillar and rainbow roll. I decided to give one of the fusion rolls a try (I believe mine is called midnight sun). My husband said whenever he tries a new sushi place, he always get the same sushi rolls where you can compare to other sushi places. He said his rolls were pretty good. My midnight sun roll was visually stunning and equally as good in the taste department. The rolls are pretty big, so I say the price is on the dot. So here's my tip about going to this restaurant: It's a place you go with your friends and you're so busy chatting that you don't realize it did indeed take forever for the food to come out. But then, you can't rush perfection :) Green tea ice cream is the greatest! And I'd have Steve as your server ;)

I don't know what everyone is talking about with this place. I came once and probably won't be back. When you advertise a sushi restaurant, no matter how creative your rolls are, I still expect the quality of the sushi and sashimi to be fresh, Fish In A Bottle, you disappoint. Not only was the sushi not fresh, but it was rubbery and not fresh! Get the hint? Freshness is key to good food! I'll give them credit for the creativity but that's about it.

While we were at Ginza a couple weeks ago, the couple sitting next to my boyfriend and suggested Fish in a Bottle. So, last week we went against our better judgment and tried it. Don't waste your time and money at this place because the selection and the quality of the sushi suck. They have a large list of rolls, but many of them don't even have fish in them. Some of them are what my boyfriend called Texas sushi. There's a roll that's prime rib with fried onions on top. Gross! I love me some prime rib, but not wrapped in rice at a sushi place! I get that it's cool, it's a fusion restaurant. But, some things shouldn't be fused. The poor platypus is a good example. All in all, you can find much better places near by.

Not the best even in Yorba Linda. I've been here twice and both times the service and wait were horrendous. Sad to say that the owner spent so much money making the place look great but the food and service just don't live up to the hype. I sat at the sushi bar and the chefs behind the counter had less personality than the guy you take your tax stuff too. If you look at the line outside this place you will see a bunch of people who think they are eating something "trendy and sophisticated." The truth is that the food is decent but the fusion really doesn't work that well for me. Kinda makes it asian food geared for "white people" like taco bell is to mexican food or panda express is to chinese. I've had better fusion than this... and to top it all off the service is very very slow so don't show up hungry.

Come here all the time. Service is never too great, but the food is so good that I really don't care. Must Haves: Calamari Enchilada Roll. BEST ROLL EVER. French Kiss: Second best roll.

This is the place we go when we decide we don't want true traditional sushi! If you want that look elsewhere. The roll selection is immense! Some of them are mind boggling when you read the ingredients. They are big and the sauces are great! Definitely NOT your typical sushi place.

Wow, when the lunchtime sushi craving hits, I'm definitely going to come back here! A coworker turned me onto this place and boy am I glad he did. Well, assuming we order less maybe bc I was starving! We had: spicy edimame- yummers! a little garlicy tasting too Honey Moon- bacon in a sushi roll? Strange but it worked. spicy yellowtail roll with the jalapenos (forget the name)= yum baby lobster roll- could be larger baby lobster but still good tuna roll- tasted good. Our server was a *bit* slow for lunch when we both had to rush back to the office, but we did order a lot of rolls, which they waited to bring out all at once. I wish they'd brought some earlier so we could munch along the way instead of sitting there starving. But it was worth the wait!

Finally checked this place out, and I have to say it was a little disappointing. Service was horrible, actually, the owner of the restaurant didn't know what customer service meant. Didn't even take our drink order because she wasn't our "server," and told us that our server would be right there. We waited about 10 minutes, still nobody. Finally, another waitress was nice enough to help us. It was obviously poor management (owners fault), they were short on staff. Anyways, the food was a little overpriced. I ordered the glazed salmon with green tea rice, and it wasn't bad. My friends roll was good, but nothing special. Their ginger was old and dry. Their hot sake always came out cold. I do have to give some credit for their decor though. Everything, from inside and out was very neat and elegant. The beer glasses were fancy, the plating was nicely put, bathrooms were clean, and the ambiance was dark and exotic.

First time here and I love the diverse menu. They have very different rolls, but they also have food for those who don't like sushi (i.e. my children). We can go as a family and all enjoy. Liked the option to see outdoors.

I would have to say that overall I was a tad disappointed with this restaurant. The prices are high so I'm forced to be a little more conservative with my review as well. Their spring salad (with caramelized apples, walnuts, Asian pears, and Asian vinaigrette) is pretty good, and their half plate is more than enough for most people; with this alone I would have rated them 4 stars. However, I ordered the crunch crunch roll, and when I got to bite into it, it just wasn't crunchy. The only thing that made it "crispy" was the flakes that they put on top. Maybe it's a wrong assumption, but I would think that a roll that is called "crunch crunch" would be actually be crunchy! In all honesty, it was actually pretty soggy. But i guess My opinion may not be completely valid because I expect my sushi to be crunchy. The decor is nice, and I think i'll definitely go back again because I only tried one roll. However, their first impression wasn't great (to my expectations)

Food was kool, but if you don't tip them at least 15% they will let you know that you should have tipped them more also don't ask to move tables Cuz they will be rude about it. It was completely rude and inappropriate.

This place has horrible costumer service ! Came here tonight with my b.f and we were excited to have dinner here . They totally ruining our night ! They sat us down and we waited 45 mins to get our food. By then we already lost the appetite and were already frustrated and upset by how the owner response to us by telling us to "calm down"( in a rule way ) and not even care about us. And their waitress didn't even come over to acknowledge us at all. Seriously the owner need to check her attitude and need to learn better customer service instead of telling your customer to calm down after making them wait 45 mins to get their food. She didn't even think it was a problem at all. Theres a reason why we were upset so don't tell us to calm down after waiting that long ! So many better sushi place in Brea that will appreciate their costumers so much more ! Please don't waste your time here ! It will eventually ruining your night ! I've been coming here in the past and after tonight my bf and I would not come here anymore ! Waste of time and money !

Definitely a well-rounded menu with lots of choices, whether you are a sushi fan (Mrs. C), not so much a sushi fan (me), or just want to try a bunch of stuff. Two very good friends, Mr. & Mrs. L. were nice enough to suggest this place, and there truly is something for everyone here. A quick run down of what I took mental notes on: -garlic soy edamame. These were slightly spicy, a little salty, & served warm. Get this for your appetizer! Sorry no picture. Too busy eating. -Chilean sea bass. If you get this, do yourself a big favor and get the miso dijon sauce on the SIDE. I swear they must make this with condensed milk or something, it's so sweet! I probably used 1/100th of the sauce they gave me, and I have Mrs. L to thank for saving my dinner. She had gotten the same thing on her previous visit, and it was her suggestion was to get the sauce on the side. Otherwise, it's a lovely piece of fish, and the green tea rice doesn't even taste like green tea, so don't let the color throw you off. -Spicy tuna. Good taste, moderate amount of heat. We got this as a roll, and something called a tostada with crisped rice as the foundation -Cordon blue roll. The idea sounded better in my head. As far as turning into a sushi roll, I love cordon blue as much as the next person, but this didn't really work for me -Cowboy roll. The blue cheese or gorgonzola cheese they use is a little strong, but is a good match for the beef. Knowing what I know now, I think would have skipped both the cordon blue and the cowboy rolls, and gotten the crunch crunch (tempura shrimp) roll that everyone keeps talking about. The restaurant got really busy about 7:30 or 8pm. so come early if you have babysitters& only a limited amount of time. Thanks Mr. & Mrs. L for a fun evening!

Fresh and creative / artistic sushi. All the rolls here are artfully and expertly made. Get the dragon roll and any roll that has berries / berry sauce in it. Crunch crunch is great too.

I don't even feel like it deserves a (1) star at this point in time. But have to put on to get this posted. We have been dining here since they opened and usually really enjoy. However, this past Saturday Aug. 3rd, will tell you that the food was not fresh contaminated or from someone not washing their hands. My whole family came home with abdominal cramping and diarrhea. NOT COOL when you spend $100 for dinner. Please reconsider going here. Don't think we will be back. Note, also put several phones into Owner/Manager still no response back yet. I will let you know if they try to make it right. By the way, service sucked and she spilled water all over my daughter's cast on her leg, which is NOT waterproof! And then had an attitude like it was our fault... seriously.... who does that! It's a shame they really have a great location... and we need good restaurants in the area. Read the reviews before dining here!

I was in Brea for a work a few weeks ago and was looking for a good sushi place in the area. Based on reviews, I decided to give Fish in a Bottle a try. They definitely has some interesting items on the menu. I liked everything we had, but it wasn't the best quality sushi I've ever had. We ordered the calamari delight, special tuna, blue mountain, and the ya ya. My wife found the blue mountain a little too weird for her tastes (sushi with blueberry jam and mozzarella cheese). However, I thought it was good, especially with some wasabi to contrast the sweetness of the jam. Not sure I'd go back, but I'm glad I gave it a try.

I took my family here for dinner last night. The sushi was fresh and the rolls were great! It was a Friday night and, as expected, was busy. It is obvious that the servers work very hard. Our server Ashley was hustling the entire time we were there. We tend to be a high maintenance group and, even with the crowd, Ashley was quick to satisfy all of our requests as well as checking in to make sure everything was going well. Definitely an enjoyable experience!

Killed by common sense and dish wares. *The Good: The ambiance, sharp dressed service, appearance, food presentation, and of course the food ^-^ *The Bad: the loud, irritating muzak, plates had broken sharp edges (excuse me?), the business phone ringing over the conversations?. Would have given 4 stars, just by checking the plates integrity, and putting the business phone on vibrate =P

I've been coming here now for a few years. It's become my home sushi spot. I recommend the specialty sushi. My favorite roll is the ya ya. My wife is not a sushi eater and she gets the teriyaki chicken which is also very good. So win win. The spicy edemame is also a winner. The wait staff is all great and have all been there a while, so turnover must be low. The owners are often seating you, and when they are not their son is. So frequent this spot. It's a gem.

Solid 3-stars for a sushi restaurant in OC. $9.95 got me six pieces of sashimi plus a California roll. The place is open and spacious. There is even a patio available for those wanting to eat outside. The menu consists of many different rolls, appetizers and entrees.

I am really surprised by the negative reviews of this place from other Yelpers. This has long been one of my go-to sushi restaurants in the area. I've never had a bad meal here, or truly poor service. Sometimes they get a little busy, and service slows, but that's understandable. The fish is fresh, and both the cooked dishes and the rolls are nicely presented. The baked baby lobster roll and the red dragon roll are two of my favorites. The menu also includes a variety of other cooked dishes, in case sushi isn't your thing. The layout and decoration of the restaurant is clean and attractive. The traffic noise when you sit on the patio is a little loud, so be forewarned. I'll be back...again and again!

Ive heard alot of good things about this place, so I finally got the opportunity to try it. I was really impressed with the decor. Very modern and spacious and the patio area looked very nice. I was also impressed by some of their sushi rolls. Some included chicken, beef, sun dried tomatoes, balsamic reduction, etc. I will definitely have to try some of those the next time I go and see if they are tasty or just weird. What I actually ordered was more middle of the road. Nothing too crazy and it was pretty decent. But maybe I had my expectations a little too high, hence the 3 stars. They also have a very extentive Sake and wine selection. More so than other Sushi restaurants that I have been to. Also, they have a more modern desert menu and alot more options than just green tea ice cream. I had the banana caramel cheesecake roll, or something like that. It was very tasty! Didnt get much banana though, which was ok. It pretty much tasted like a churro and a cheesecake had a baby. Yum! I definitely have to go back and be more adventurous with what I order.

I just ate here this weekend; sushi was great as were the rolls. They also have a great sake menu (recommend drunken whale) as well as great cuts of ahi, toro, etc. If you like you can choose to get a steak or a full meal with miso and salad. Plenty of place to sit (for a change) so no long wait getting a seat even on a Saturday night. I would definitely come back- they also have an outdoor patio area not to mention a dive across the street

So, what 8 year old loves sushi? Ours. It's her favorite food...with mac'n cheese as a close second. For her birthday, she asked for a sushi lunch. Wanting to try something less traditional and more interesting, we stopped here specifically for that fusion flavor. This isn't Japanese owned, so expect the sushi to be less than traditional. In fact, many of the rolls are really not sushi at all. This isn't a complaint. In fact, the next time I go back, I'm trying the steak and gorgonzola roll. The decor is nice. It's a bit OC (meaning that it looks like every other place) but not in a bad way. I was able to ignore the fake country rose decorations that were here and there. There is an outdoor patio that is pretty, despite being on a busy street. On a cooler evening, the heat lamps would make this a nice spot to enjoy a drink and some crazy rolls. We had: - Hawaiian Roll - topped with mango, it was pleasantly sweet - Red Dragon Roll - my favorite with some crunchy onions as a topping - French Kiss - nice and a bit more traditional, it was topped with roe - Tempura - not bad but not great Most of the menu is creative and interesting. The service was good. The place is very clean. Parking is no problem. Even feeding three of us was less expensive than when we eat traditional sushi. If you want traditional sushi, this isn't the place. If your palate asks for something different and you want to eat some crazy rolls, Fish in a Bottle is worth a try.

In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king. I guess this applies to being the best sushi place in Brea (whatever technically in Placentia). It's a nice enough spot and packed to the gills on a Saturday night at 7pm. Shhhhh... don't tell anybody but the owners are Korean. So are a lot of sushi places in the OC. The crispy rice with spicy tuna riff that every sushi restaurant in LA does was a total and complete bomb. The rice was too thick resulting in big soggy rice. Need a more compact surface area for more crispiness. The sweet sauce overwhelms everything. The other sushi was kinda hit and miss. The aji was very fresh and good. The maguro was bland and boring. The tempura was expertly fried and a pleasant surprise. Nothing here was terrible but at the same time no dishes were transcendent. If I was living in LA this place wouldn't show up on my sushi radar but things are different now. This has to be the liveliest place in town on Saturday. People were boozing it up and having a great old time. I hope this isn't what my life in the OC becomes. But then again it could be worse.

Favorite sushi place of all time! Ate here the other night and had a great experience...started off with the jalapeno poppers and garlic edamame both were delicious. I ordered the sashimi sampler and was more than satisfied everything tasted really fresh and the salmon was to die for. My wife does not eat meat so she ordered the Tuscan roll (very delicious and great for vegetarians) coming back next weekend!

What a delightful surprise! I would love to give that last star, but seeing as my friend and I just ordered take out, it's hard to judge customer service, though they definitely seemed friendly in the limited interaction we had. I ordered the Blue Mountain roll for myself and my friend got the Hawaiian. We were a little turned off by the price because we didn't have very high expectations from the restaurant's facade. This, plus our only slight hunger prevented us from ordering any appetizers or sides, but there was more than a fine selection ranging from the usual miso soup or salad to the lavish lobster dishes. Their menu had plenty to choose from if you're not into seafood, so don't be afraid to bring those friends here. Traditionalists will find very unusual rolls here, including ones with steak, chicken, or bacon. My Blue Mountain was delicious and was topped with blueberry jam. Jam! Completely absurd but totally savory and awesome. My friend's Hawaiian was quite good as well, filled with unagi and covered with mango. Our only complaint is that there were a few ingredients that did not seem accounted for. I don't doubt they were there, we just couldn't taste them! That being said, at $10 each for our rolls, it was definitely a great buy. If it weren't so late, dining in would be a great option as well because the ambiance was wonderful. It is more intimate, but outdoor seating during the day could be a little more casual and friendly. If you're looking for sushi, you've got to come by and try one of their unusual, but incredible, rolls.

I love their rolls, I wish I could say the same about their service. It seems like they have new servers every time I go. Side note: Order the spicy garlic edamame and seared ahi. Once you are done with edamame, pour the garlic sauce on the seared ahi- It's delicious. Overall, the fish is always fresh and the rolls are nontraditional. DO NOT go there if you are looking authentic sushi.

When my party was seated, we received the most awful service from Jenna. Well, that's what the receipt said since she barely spoke to us. She had an attitude taking our drinks down as if she didn't want to serve us. I wanted a water with lemon, and I assume she didn't hear me at first since she had the impatient look and tone. She never asked us how we were doing, but directly asked if were ready to order. When she brought out the food, she lazily placed each plate. I moved the plate for her, and she didn't bother making it look neat and walked off without a "thank you". As she sets things down on our table, the gesture was careless. I noticed she had been checking up on her other tables and conversing with a smile. Unfortunately, she never asked us how we were doing once. Many times she had walked by, hesitant in checking on us, but still, not a word. As she dropped off and picked up the check, she never once thanked us or asked how the meal was. If she didn't want to serve us for any reason, she could have asked another person to politely serve us. I do not appreciate the unwelcoming service especially when we made the effort to come out to dine here. Also, I find it rude to receive unequal treatment from the beginning until the end. We didn't even bother her throughout our entire meal. One star for the nice hostess who seated my party, dropped off the check to sign, and thanked us on our way out.

This place can get pretty busy for dinner, so come early or be prepared to wait. The place had both indoor and outdoor seating. If it's cold or rainy out, they do have the plastic to block it out so that eating outside is still an option. They have something for everyone. Their sushi is okay, nothing too special but it does the job. Sashimi is pretty good as well. They have a salmon dish with a special sauce that is just amazing. They do it with chicken as well, but it is amazing. They do a green tea rice, but you can ask for regular rice if that's not your thing. The staff is friendly and attentive, so you can always get what you want when you need it. Overall, a good place to take your dates / family to!

Yelp seems to be extremely selective about which reviews to post, so I shall post again. If I could have given this zero stars and still posted a review, I would have. My daughter and I ate here on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. We had the Ya Ya Roll and the Sushi/Sashimi plate. We got a little ways thru both before we both started to feel ill. The Sashimi was super fishy tasting and the fish was brown around the edges. Our wait staff Michelle was super nice; however, the place was crowded and service was medicore. We sat on the patio which was super loud and the floor is hollow so every time someone walked thru it vibrated. My daughter and I both feel ill about an hour after eating there and were up all night with food poisoning. I've called the Health Department and hopefully they have investigated so no one has to suffer they way we did. You want sushi....go somewhere...anywhere else.

Service is okay, location and ambiance is not bad, the sushi menu though is kinda bland and tired. A lot of focus on tempura this and deep fried that and baked that, which means they're not willing to invest in quality fresh fish. Service is hit-and-miss, takes them a while to refill the water or to clean out the table when there are obviously empty dishes piling up.

The sushi here was awesome!!! the yaya roll was very spicy but also very good.. the service was blah but i think the server was SWAMPED and we later saw the manager come out and apologize to the table next to us for something that happened and i'm sure the server got shit for it, so we cut her a break but just didn't tip as much :) the crunch crunch roll and the yaya roll were delish!

sushi was average but their dinners were delicious and portions were huge. Service was good the friday night we were there even though they were super busy. we sat in the patio area and it was very nice!

This place is more like 2.5 stars but I will rate this place for what it is. Fish In A Bottle is a sushi and grill fusion restaurant catering to the American palate. We were deciding between Kaori and Fish In A Bottle but the girl in me went with the cuter name. When we first walked in, we overheard the hostess (and owner perhaps?) mentioning that they had just passed the board inspection yesterday. Oh yay. We came when everything was super clean! The restaurant was already packed with people but we were able to snag a cozy table near the back. They also have an outdoor seating area for those that want fresh air. Their menu selection is pretty lengthy. They have everything from nourishings (vegetable appetizers), beginnings (appetizers), Land (meat), Water (seafood), and Flow (sushi). Since they are supposedly known for their rolls, we ordered the Ya Ya Roll amongst the usual sushi (albacore, salmon, and yellowtail). The fish tasted funky. Not like it was spoiled but it just tasted off. It definitely did not taste fresh. And it definitely was not even close to being outstanding sushi. Just. MEH. The fish sort of had this milky feel to them if that makes any sense. Their rolls are friggin' enormous. I don't think I would've been able to finish it on my own even if I only ordered the roll. The inside of the roll had albacore (we took out the cilantro) and cucumber. It was topped with spicy yellowtail, capped with jalapeno slices and chili sauce. The flavor was disappointing. If it weren't for the ponzu sauce, then the roll itself would've been pretty flavorless. There was the soft gooey texture of the fish and the firm rice but that was it. The sriracha sauce gave it a good kick along with sweet salty flavor of the ponzu sauce. I left satisfied but my friend was disappointed and still hungry. It's a decent fusion place. If I ever did come back I'd probably stick with the rolls.

Have eaten here regularly since it opened. Over the last couple of years both the service and the food have declined significantly. Ate there yesterday for lunch. I can safely say it was the WORST sushi I have ever had anywhere. The sushi that required a torch smelled and tasted like butane. The tuna smelled like fish and was obviously not at all fresh. The server was great but it took forever to get the sushi. There was only one other party in the restaurant but it took 30 minutes for three sushi chefs to prepare two rolls and five regular orders of sushi. We won't be going back...

What a nice place to take a first date to or even your significant other! This place was too beautiful for words, truly unconventional decor compared to most sushi joints. I was like, oooh and aww, when I stepped in the door. Located in a plaza on the corner of Rose and Imperial Hwy, this place overlooks the busy intersection and also has terrace seating outside with a metal overhang that would look absolutely gorgeous when the sun goes down. I ordered the lunch special salmon teriyaki with veggies and tea infused rice. It also comes with your choice of a soup or salad. I chose salad and am glad I did. The salad is not your typical miso dressing with iceberg lettuce type of salad. This salad comes with mixed greens, some yummy dressing, and I believe pecans or some sort of nuts. It was delish! I've had my fair share of salmon teriyaki dishes and this, ranks as one of the best I've ever had. The plate is huge. The teriyaki sauce is finger lickin' good. I saw people ordering sushi rolls, and they looked like a masterpiece. I definately will try this location or the one in Cypress. And I must say, this place was busy for lunch--that's often a good sign that the food is good :)

I love the sushi here, the customer service is awesome, the ambiance is just great (perfect for dates), but it lost the fifth star because they no longer offer the awesome Happy Hour deal the Cypress location does. At $5 on some of their best rolls, you can't go wrong.

One of the few Fusion Sushi place that I really really like!!! For some reason, I like this Placentia location more then the one in Cypress. I loveee their fish & chips!! Its something you won't be able to try elsewhere! I have to order this every time I eat at this restaurant! hahaha Their sushi is great too! Rolls are good too. (but I feel it is a bit pricey) The service are a so-so, nothing beyond but it's not worst.

The service is really slow, always has been. The food used to be a lot better, but the last few times the sushi tastes less fresh, really chewy and the rolls do not stick together and all fall apart. I know that sounds finicky but you truly want to pick up the roll and not have it fall apart and eat fresh sushi/

I love this restaurant! It's tiny but it feels quaint when you're sitting and eating in there. In the past, there's always a 5 minute wait but surprisingly, this weekend it was pretty empty. We went there for dinner this past Mother's Day and were seated right away. The food has always been really good here. I got the Ya Ya roll which was delicious and you definitely have to order the Filet Wrapped Asparagus as an appetizer! On this last visit, the service was very slow which surprised us because it was pretty empty in the restaurant. I'm not sure if the management has changed or if the chefs have changed but the food also tasted a little different this time (not as delicious as I remember it). Either way, I'm still giving it 4 stars because I've been here over a dozen times and always loved the food so I think it deserves more stars for that. This last experience was a bit disappointing but everyone's allowed to have an off day, right? :)

Love this place. My wife and I visit here often. The food is really good. Highly recommend the Dragon Crunch Roll. The service is ok. It seems like it may be a little under-staffed. It's a nice place to bring a bottle of wine and enjoy out on the patio.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, EVER. I was there with my BF's family for his Dad's Birthday. The food was commendable for Brea/Placentia area. However, the service was awful. Point #1: We made it a point to have the appetizers come first, but the appetizers showed up the same time as our entrees. We waited a long time for our entrees. Point #2: The Birthday Boy did not get his entree when everything else came out. Once we got a hold of the server, he was unapologetic and the fish finally came out after everyone was almost done with their meal. We addressed the situation with the owner/manager. Although he was minimally apologetic, it really put a damper on the birthday celebration. At the least, I would have expected that entree to be comped. It was not.

I've driven by this place many a times and also have seen ads in the local city magazines, advertising a higher-end sushi/fusion restaurant. Hubby, my daughters and I finally stopped by for dinner. The decor was very nice - a bit on the fancy side. We were walking up and thought it may have been too fancy, but we were already there and it wasn't that crowded yet, so we said what the hec. Decor was meant for a nice dinner night without kids - oops! They also don't have a kids menu - I guess that re-affirms it. Good thing kids weren't starving. Dinner prices were in the mid $10s to $20s, per entree. Sushi/roll prices were comparable to other sushi places. No udon for the kids, so we got then the grilled chicken (which were plain grilled chicken tenderloins) with a , mound of rice and sauce on the side. Also got them the BBQ ribs - both on appetizer menu. Ribs were great!! Extremely tender and a bit on the sweet side but both kids loved it. Hubby got the grilled salmon, and I got the stuffer snapper. We split both entrees - grilled salmon was much better than the snapper. Simple grilled salmon (just slightly more well done) in terriaki sauce, with green rice (that actually tasted like white rice), and grilled veggies - 4 stars. Stuffed snapper in a cream sauce, way overpowered ginger flavored rice, and ginger flavored cole slaw with peanuts - 2 stars. Service was very slow ... got very annoyed when I asked for two small bowls to split the chicken/rice wbetween the kiddies, and waited forever (5 mins for bowls??). That just annoyed me - simple request that should have been very quick. By the time we left, (7:30 pm, Fri), it was packed with people waiting for tables. I don't think it was/should be worth the wait. I would highly recommend Kabuki in Brea instead ... better overall japanese menu at a better price. (Did get the house pinot grigio .... excellent! Asked manager where to get - said it's not available, only for restaurants ....)

i've been here a couple times now and i always leave satisfied. please don't come here expecting high-end sushi...it's a fusion restaurant and it screams that when you look at the menu. if you want americanized japanese food, this place will do it for you. things i've had that i really liked: - spicy edamame: really good and flavorful - ya ya roll: get it with fried garlic, soooo yummy! - steak asparagus appetizer - green tea ice cream - house salad - soft shell crab that's all i can remember for now but i definitely remember those being really good and worth getting. i've gotten their sashimi which isn't bad but again, i would never come here to cure a sashimi craving. it's a little on the pricier side but this is probably the only place in/or YL that serves decent jap food so you're really paying for the convenience of staying close by. at least you save on gas! the service is always really good. deedee is my favorite server. she's super sweet and always on-point. the restaurant is always pretty clean and usually packed. i'm actually really surprised it only has a 3.5 star rating. i know of so many regulars that love this place!

Fish In A Bottle is an awesome fusion-sushi joint. It's not for the ultra-traditionalist sushi snobs, but that isn't to say they don't have sashimi or sushi options that could satisfy something who's looking for some raw fish action. I personally come here for the rolls, both seafood and otherwise... As for appetizers, I've had the garlic-chili edamame, fried softshell crab and the duck egg rolls (I think that's what they're called. It was a long time ago). I get the edamame every time, it's excellent. The softshell crab is great too, but I only get it every so often. The first time I came here, I had to try the Blue Mountain roll, just because it sounded so ridiculous... blueberry jam over melted mozzarella on top of a large california roll. Though ordered as a novelty, it was surprisingly good. I don't think I've ordered it since, but I'm glad I tried it. I've also done the Honey Moon roll with bacon, crispy onions and potatoes. Again, tasty, but more of a novelty that I've only tried once. That's the beauty of Fish in a Bottle, it's easy to try something new each time you go, while sticking to some good standards like the dragon rolls, spicy tuna, etc. There can be a wait on busy nights, but I don't think I've ever waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Service and food has always been good here. Definitely a place to check out if you're looking for something different, yet familiar. It's got a clean, cool and modern atmosphere... wouldn't be a bad place for a date, if you're into that kind of thing. They also have typical entree dishes, and plenty of options for the not-so-adventurous. So if you have one of those in your party, it can still work.

SHHHH...... SILENCE PLEASE! So I love sushi, I mean I love sushi! I could eat it 4-5 times a week, or more so I consider myself a connoisseur of some sort. As far as decor goes Fish in a bottle is a decent looking little place. You can tell that the owners have put some effort into making their restaurant shine, so I give them props for that. The sushi wasn't bad, but at the same time it wasn't great. The portions were decent so I guess if your looking for pure volume maybe this is your sushi bar, but definitely nothing extraordinary. In fact let's get down to brass tax! The sushi chef was almost rude at times. He would just stand there and chop hunks of fish, and toss them on a plate... "next" lol. He had zero personality to the point where I just wanted to leave. The restaurant had a depressing vibe.. like none of the customers were happy with their meal. It was weird. The bottom line? The quality of the fish... average. The display of the fish... below average. The amount of fish per serving... maybe above average. The crowd.... Don't waste your time finding out Sorry, but I don't need more average fish per serving. I'm looking for a little bit of service, culinary creativity, and ambiance for my hard earned money. Next!

The place is very busy and service is very good. The whole place is open no blinds or walls separating table from table. Had an oyster shot... it was not the best oyster shot I had... the chief added too much alcohol. I ordered the Baby Lobster Roll and Rainbow roll. Both were delicious and worth going for.

If i could have given 3.5, i would have. This is definitely one of those sushi places you go to when you are with a friend who only likes cali rolls or someone just starting out. Alot of rolls do not even have fish. So here is what i liked and didnt like: -Spicy Edamame. Very good! -Cowboy Roll.Non sushi loving friend bought this one and enjoyed it. Sushi loving friend bought it and hated it. Go figure :P Has steak and a very strong cheese in it. It was disgusting. Hey, I tried to spit it out very lady like-ish! :\ -Lobster Roll. DELICIOUS!! This is the main reason i keep coming back to this place. Its fairly inexpensive(around 10 or 11 bucks?) and the portion is great! Usually i pay 12 bucks for only 5 pieces at other places. yumyumyum. Service is hit or miss. My advice would be to go when it is not busy. It can get pretty cramped inside.

Has to be the best sushi joint in OC! Love the creativity and quality of fish in their rolls. It gets a little busy during the dinner rush so get there early or you'll have to wait a bit to get your plates.

Ate here about 3 years ago and had a decent experience. At that time, we really enjoyed the steak-wrapped asparagus appetizers. However we have gone about once every 8 to 12 months and have noticed that that particular dish that we enjoy has become meh (not horrible however definitely has gone down in quality). Last night was unchanged with a mediocre quality appetizer (I can't help but try for that magic again) and one of the worst main dishes I have ever had at any restaurant. Had the scampi which was so tough and salty it was inedible. I understand this is more of a sushi place however scampi is on the menu, and it should be good. The quality of the scampi was poor, the prep poor and the cooking poor. I was thinking I could have made a better dish at home (which defeats the purpose of going out to dinner), and I'm a horrible cook. It was late and I didn't want to even try a another dish so I didn't send it back however the waitress didn't even ask if it was good. Basically an uneaten plate of foot sitting there and no questions about how did I like it?. She even brought my bill without taking the plates off the table. And as far as sushi, everything seems to be swimming in sauces. Someone already posted about using sauce to cover bad food and I would ditto that sentiment. I'm a local and will not be going back.

Yum Yum This is a well managed sushi bar with good food and super friendly service. I think it was the owner that seated me last time I was there and he was very nice. The waiter was attentive and the sushi chief was friendly even though he was busy. The only reason for the 4 stars is parking is a pain and they are always crowded. Now I go early (before 6:00) to be seated right away.

This place came highly recommended but was a huge disappointment. First off the place has some cleanness issues -see for yourself. The sushi chefs are not Japanese and the wait staff are all rather young will seemingly little restaurant experience and sadly the owners are better suited for a liquor store than a restaurant. If there is a wait, you must do so outside as there is no waiting room. While their sushi and sashimi are truly a notch below average, they truly do have some of the best and most creative rolls, such as 'Blue Mountain', 'Manchu Piccu' and the 'Ya-Ya Roll' all three can be good.

My go-to place when I need something super rich and mouth-watering. If you don't like Americanized Asian, you might not like this. I personally enjoy Americanized sushi very much. Most of their rolls are put a twist on in that way. After coming here for several years and trying many of the rolls, the Midnight Sun is still my favorite.

This place doesn't even deserve one star... I was mortified by the lack of service we received on our first trip to "fish in a bottle". My friend and I arrived at the restaurant around 8:10pm and were hesitantly greeted by a male host with a very poor welcoming attitude. He took us to our table and promptly left. After around 3 minutes a server came and asked us of our drink requests. With a response of 2 Waters we expected a pretty quick return. Although to our dismay it literally took 5 minutes to receive our water. The server didn't even pause to ask us of any further requests. She quickly walked away as proceeded to help other guests. After another 16 minutes I began making gestures to try and catch out waiters eye. We were accompanied by only 3 other parties in the entire restaurant therefor we were not worries as to being too needy. We were already set on what we were going to order but were never checked back on. After making a very loud grunting noise we got up and left the restaurant. I have never been so upset with a a business before. I have never felt not unappreciated and unwanted in a place. I am truly disgusted by out visit tonight and will hesitate and warn others before ever returning.

Came in about 7:30 on a Tue night, fairly busy but still plenty of open tables. Got seated right away. Place looks nice, kind of unfinished near the restrooms but overall nice. Server was kind and greeted me with in a reasonable amount of time, although from the intro she seemed a little overwhelmed. Good amount of choices on the menu, a little pricey but we are in Placentia / Yorba so do nt expect to get cheap food. I should have left after the response to my question about the Sushi sampler menu item here is a summary for the conversation" me:I would like the sushi sampler with no shrimp please Server: there is charge for any substitution.. me:ok I just want to leave the shrimp out, I can not eat it. Server: I have to charge you for leaving out the shrimp, if you just order from the sushi menu it will be cheaper....(proceeds to leave the table)... If I had not already drank half my beer I would have left. But I try to move on. At the recommendation of a few yelpers I go for the ya-ya roll and the Caterpillar roll ( LOVE baked eel!!) Takes for ever to make two rolls..once I get them temps are all backwards.. the baked eel roll is cold and the ya-ya is warm...lol warm yaya do that have that on netflix... really was hoping for something great here. I guess if this is your baseline for what sushi is supposed to be then this is great. I have a higher standard for my sushi. Good presentation but crap quality.

Tasty food. The servers weren't as bad as everyone says. I actually thought the service was a bit above par. We were quickly sat for a table of 7 outside. It was pleasantly sunny outside, it buds up against a busy road, but we're sat slightly up from the road so the noisy motorcycles zooming by didn't bother us. The Sirius radio had some nice music on. Hawaiian Roll: good. Better than the Mango Tango roll. Blue Mountain: messy, but very tasty Only negative was most dishes were chipped and my lemonade was lemon water.

The sushi is fine, but not better than what I have had elsewhere. What makes me swear off ever eating here again is the HORRIBLE service. I have come here twice and we have been on the receiving end of the worst service ever twice. The second time we came with another couple and three of us got our food a full 20 minutes before the food came out for the fourth person. The servers are completely oblivious - it ruined our dining experience. Too bad - we won't be back a third time.

I've been on the hunt for great sushi in the northern Orange County area... this is one of the best. The sushi here is pretty good, fresh and a lot of different options and the prices are competitive. Would probably get 5 stars if it wasn't for one thing... the size of the place. This place could be the definition of hole in the wall if you look at size alone, however it looks brand new on the inside. This isn't so much of a big deal unless you go on one of the busy nights because the wait could be a while, and once you do sit down the wait for the sushi might also take a while. I will try and upload a picture of a sampling of the sushi. Overall i would recommend, just don't go on a busy night. If you don't mind the 'Americanizing' of sushi Chomp in fullerton is really great also, and is better prepared to handle more people.

Came here for dinner and their food was mediocre. My friend and I shared 2 rolls and an appetizer. We had the fillet mignon wrapped asparagus spears (looked like fingers.. hehehe) with a balsamic sauce, ya-ya and machu pichu roll. My favorite was the ya-ya roll. The fish here isn't very fresh. I've been here twice and that's been the case. Or, maybe since I didn't order the sashimi they didn't use the freshest fish they had? Even in the roll, I could tell the yellowtail wasn't very fresh. The appetizer was disappointing. I hear fillet mignon and I imagine biting into a small, tender piece of beef. Rather, it was dry, tough piece of beef wrapped around an asparagus spear on top of shredded cabbage swimming in a vinegary sauce. Not appetizing. Sadly, they have little competition for sushi/roll places in the Brea/Placentia/Yorba Linda area. Considering it was a Wednesday night, it was PACKED.

This place is super small which always makes my dining experience a little less enjoyable. I love hole in the walls but there are just too many people cramped in this place for you to use your chopsticks and raise your elbows. The sushi rolls are OK. I've had better, but for the area it's pretty good. The prices are a little steep, but again, for the area, its decent. The staff is friendly and its almost always busy.

Go somewhere else if you are looking for good sushi-it's a little too whitewashed for me. The menu items sound good but I wasn't impressed. I tried their cowboy roll but the mix of beef and seaweed didn't mesh well. Also our waitress was not friendly and seemed to have an attitude the entire time. On a positive note their garlic edamame was amazing!

Not so good. Far too expensive for what you get. Food is mediocre. This place calls itself a "Sushi and Grille" so, after driving past it many times and because our original plans went awry, we tried this place on a Friday at 6 pm. We waited only a short while (lines got longer later) and were seated in the main dining room. The decor is very dark, the table very close together and it was so LOUD we couldn't hear ourselves. We ordered Edamame in chile oil as an appetizer--it was tasty and good and we will make this at home sometime. For our main course, neither of us wanted sushi so we ordered grille entrees. He had the sea bass and got a very small portion in an odd tasting sauce. I ordered the stuffed chicken and got a breaded cutlet layered on top a pesto sauce. The sauce helped since the meat was too dry and it gave the dish some flavor. WAY too expensive for what we got. As someone else said, they serve your meal on a plate so large that it was actually hanging off the end of my end of the table and was awkward to use. Service was poor since our waitress had tables all over the restaurant and she seemed far too busy to scan her tables. We finally did get her attention to get the bill and blast out of there as soon as we could. That surprised me since we saw at the hostess counter that have multiple cameras focused on just about every part of the place so --I guess--the customers are always within someone's sight. Unfortunately, that didn't translate into good service for us. We left as soon as we finished since we couldn't stand the noise in the place and weren't tempted to stay for desert. The bill was way too expensive for the quality of the food and we will not go here again. However, let me say that if you do go there, ask for a seat in the garden section since it must be quieter there and is lighter and looks more welcoming. Also, if you go to Fish in a Bottle order sushi. It's beautifully prepared and has to be better than the grille items.

I came here for lunch on a Tuesday. The food was AMAZING - we split a Crunch Crunch roll and a Vegas roll, and shared the spicy edamame, and all of them were amazing. I hadn't been there before, and even though I'm pregnant, so I can't eat raw fish, there were plenty of options. However, don't come at lunch time unless you can take a long lunch - it wasn't super busy, but there were only to servers and we sat at our table for a least 10 minutes before even getting water. And one of the servers walked by us at least fifteen times to help the table next to us. So the food would've been 5 stars, and the service 3 stars, so I'm rounding it out to 4.

I was going to give this place 5 stars, but after an "incident," it lost that perfect score from me. Just read on. Being an enthusiastic sushi goer, I decided to choose this place for my birthday dinner with friends. The place turned out really nice for a quiet neighborhood in Placentia. We had a relatively large party and had to put our name down on the waiting list before being seated; we only waited for about 20 minutes. The outside of the restaurant was nice and the interior was pretty nice too. At the sushi bar, there's an awesome display of the Fish in the Bottle logo with a blue light behind it, adding a cool "pop out" effect on the sign. The diners are a mix of older guests and 20-somethings. I think when we were there, we were one of the youngest groups there (yay!). :) I do have to mention that the menu can be overwhelming, but my, what a selection! I only focused on the sushi menu. There were items like a Cordon Bleu sushi, with creamy shredded chicken, a Hawaiian roll with macademia nuts and some other crazy fusioned-up dishes! I tried the first two and it was GOOD and YUMMY IN THE TUMMY! The presentation was quite nice, too. I loved how they plated the sushi pieces. I think my party had a great time and loved the food. The experience was generally really good....until we left the restaurant. *da dum dum* Apparently, we mistakenly undertipped and did not tip the usual restaurant minimum for 8 or larger parties of 18%. My friends and I were outside the restaurant chatting and then a hostess comes out side and yells "Hey, hey....wait a minute, you did not tip enough." It was the weirdest thing. She wanted to collect the "missing tip". Though we did not hesitate to chip in the extra cash, we all thought it was rude and just unprofessional to chase after your patrons for tip. They should've just let it go. So with that, they lost a star from me. I don't know if I'd revisit this restaurant just because of that server's behavior, but I'd probably check out the Cypress location next time around. I'd like to try out their whole menu!

My family and I went to fish in a bottle tonight for Father's Day dinner, walked in about 45 minutes before closing, place was not packed. Sat down and were told they are having last call and they asked if we wanted anything else while we were in the process of ordering,,STUPID me thought they meant beer or wine...I was not thinking we had to also order our dessert at this time ONLY after our meal did we find out we could NOT order anything else...lol I said "are you kidding"? since we ended up spending a nice chunk of change...Our waitress asked the owner who said it would be alright after all..this sort of ticked me off. Over all Food is presented nicely.Portions are nice.Rolls are great I had the Roasted crispy duck very good,my teenagers had various rolls all were alright, Sushi is NOT tasting too fresh but NOT bad either . Atmosphere is low lights, seems like a nice date place. The whole time I was there I felt rushed maybe because they wanted to go home being father's day and all...lol Sushi chefs look miserable..not too friendly. They need more staff, Hot food was cold.Dessert was alright nothing special I had a banana carmel fried turn over thing ,kids had ice cream (green tea) presentation was nice. Over all I would NOT go back again! Iam sorry I forgot to take some photos...but you are not missing anything trust me!

THIS LOCATION DOES NOT OFFER HAPPY HOUR! (even though Yelp says it does, it doesn't) Ok, now that I haven gotten that out of the way I'll proceed with my review. My boyfriend and we here on a recent afternoon around 4 or 5. We chose this restaurant over another sushi restaurant mainly because of the Happy Hour. Imagine our disappointment when we walk in and we are informed by the server "Only the Cypress location offers Happy Hour." I wanted to leave, but my boyfriend wanted to stay. So we stayed. Now on to the food. We got a sushi sampler plate and shared it. The fish was fresh and it was more than enough for the two of us. We could definitely tell the difference in quality between this place and take out sushi places we frequent. If money was no object I would go here all the time. I couldn't help but notice we were the only customers the entire time we were there, which was about 45 minutes. Maybe they should offer the Happy Hour at this location and the employees won't be standing around with bored looks on their faces. But reading other people's reviews it seems like this place gets pretty busy in the evenings and on the weekends. The main point of my review is to warn others who are looking for Happy Hour. I will conclude this review with the following message.... THIS LOCATION DOES NOT OFFER HAPPY HOUR! (even though Yelp says it does, it doesn't)

I have eaten there about 5 or 6 times over a period of time and have enjoyed it each time. The nigiri sushi has been good (salmon, yellow tail belly, sea urchin mostly) and the rolls are good also. It is fusion cuisine so expect a very different selection of rolls. I like the French Kiss Roll quite a bit. The menu has a selection of other dishes if you have members of your party that do not like sushi. It appears to be a nice selection. We have always had reasonable service, but not outstanding...maybe it is because I get the feeling all the help are running their butts off so they don't have time be warm and friendly. I think that is a pet peeve of mine at nice restaurants. Also, the tables are a bit small for all the huge plates they bring out. The reviews seem to be mixed. I suggest you try it for yourself. I also like another sushi restaurant down the street which I will not name, but my son-in-law prefers Fish-in-a-Bottle by a mile.

the food was good but expensive and not worth it. the service was horrible. it literally took 10 minutes for a bowl of rice to be served to us. the one in cypress is a lot better. the chefs and servers were nice and friendly. p.s. the placentia location should bring back happy hour...jus sayin.....

This place is not located in an area that is well known for its delicious sushi; however, I was pleasantly surprised with my recent experience. I shared the Ya Ya, Mango Tango, and Red Dragon rolls. The Ya Ya was one of the best rolls I've had in recent months, and the other two were solidly good as well. The prices are reasonable, the place was extremely busy (even on a Monday night), and the service was a bit slow but decent overall. I will definitely be paying future visits to this location. This sushi is the best in the area.

Went here during a weekday with a coworker to grab some sushi. Never been here. Was greeted with a friendly smile. I had the French Kiss and the Vegas roll.. actually both were pretty similar and had a lot of fried onions on it. While it was good, my breath was KICKIN' afterwards. The fish was very fresh. Slightly pricey for a lunch. I had 2 rolls and water and it was just over $20... I think they should have lunch specials or small portions for the lunch crowd. Overall, good, clean atmosphere with good service. I would recommend if you're in the area. The inside is much nicer looking than the outside and neighboring stores.

Ok, I would hesitate to really call this a sushi place. I love fusion sushi, but this is past fusion sushi. I would say it is closer to American than Japanese, but since I love both types of food, I still found it interesting and tasty. I really did like the steak-gorgonzola roll. The roll came with steak, a sweet balsamic type sauce, gorgonzola, fried onions, and mixed greens. On a normal basis I love all those ingredients so I'm not going to hate it in a roll. I also liked that the rolls were very creative and unique. So if you're not looking for hardcore sashimi or traditional sushi, this place is a really good, interesting place to try.

One of the best places to eat around yorba linda and definitely the best sushi place! Nice environment and I love the unique rolls! Only thing I don't like is I think the soy sauce tastes a bit strange? Going to start smuggling some classic kikomen packs in

This place is quite possibly the best sushi place I have been to. I have only been here once but I do look forward to going again. I had the Machu Picchu roll. The slices themselves were two biters. The decor was of modern Asian fusion which I liked a lot. The sushi bar was set high so it was easier to shovel all those wonderful rolls right in, with out any problems. All in all this was a great sushi bar.

Wife and I went here a few weeks ago as it was recommended to us by friends. We are HUGE fans of sushi/japanese cuisine and dine at Yosuke in Anaheim Hills almost weekly. We waited around 30 minutes on a Saturday night to sit at the bar. Our first order was spicy tuna nachos (can't remember the exact name but it was something close). The plate came out with a massive pile of spicy tuna in the middle mixed with tomato, avocado, onion, etc., along with what had to be 5 dozen won-ton "chips" stuck in the tuna and laying on the plate. Needless to say, it was something that could've been shared by 8 people and since we wanted to try some other dishes, we chose not to finish it and move on. We ordered a couple of other rolls since they have a whole page on the menu full of them. They were OK; one had mango on it I believe....one was really spicy....but all were WAY oversized. In summary, the portions were way too large, making it hard to eat some of the pieces and leaving us feeling stuffed, and we didn't order all that much. This is not your traditional sushi restaurant and we knew that going in, however I didn't think the "fushion" of American & Japanese really worked. Having said that, I saw some of the plates at the tables around me and the entrees looked pretty appetizing. Oh...one last thing, the sushi bar seemed too high when sitting and it was a little uncomfortable (and I'm 6').

I came here during lunch hour because my office moved to a new location about two blocks away. I had the Macchu Picchu roll: shrimp tempura, cucumber, and cream cheese roll topped with jalepeno crab. It was 8.95, HUGE, and delicious except I'm not a fan of spicy mayo and they put a lot of it on there. Next time, I'll ask for no sauce. I tried their spicy tuna, albacore, and salmon: all great. They have a lot of interesting appetizers, the cooked food feels very Western, it is not traditional Japanese cuisine but the fish and sushi is great. I work at a sushi restaurant and can tell the fish here is extremely fresh, and the sushi men know what they're doing even though they are not Japanese. Only downside is that the restaurant is small and feels crowded and if I weren't dining at the bar by myself, I probably would have had to wait for awhile. The decor is very nice, perfect for a lunch meeting or get together with friends!

This is my first food review and after going onto Yelp and reading on "rave" places to eat, this place has been the final straw for crappy food experiences. the sushi, nigiri & appetizers are .. mmm no.. i've had better. a lot better. salmon nigiri - fish was poorly cut, thin. rice was HARD & chewy. wrong proportions (too much rice).. Price was expensive for what it was.. spicy garlic oil edamame - try beechwood in venice. that place has bomb edamame. flavor was good but could have been eased a bit on the garlic oil.. overspiced.. can kinda see what they were going for, but defeinitely killed it with the garlic. jalapeno poppers - fish overcooked. nothing spectacular. Had some crunchy fried white noodles on top that probably upgraded it from a C to a C+ french kiss - AGAIN with the hard sushi rice, wtf!!! end pieces crumbled as soon as I picked it up, the tempura didn't taste as if it had just been fried, and they had "fried onions" on top that were stale and cold. the previous reviews said this fusion placed seemed innovative. all the rolls seem pretty standard though. Do not suggest for people who enjoy sushi. Can't understand why there were so many people in there & why people on here rate it so highly. maybe the entrees are good? HAH.

??? I really hope this place is not going downhill... Haven't been here in a while and dropped in today to have lunch. The waiter there was a total space cadet and I got horrible service. I ordered the things I usually order and the quality was NOT GOOD. My fish was not fresh tasting and thick cut, in a sloppy manner. I really hope the owners read this and shape things up because I never have bad experiences here in the past.

Despite them almost frying every app on the menu, The flavor pairing's were pretty spectacular, (Duck confit, and plum sauce, was a Major Win for me) I recommend going at Happy Hour. its a little compact but the atmosphere was very comfortable, and inviting.

Mmm. I'll make this one short and sweet. Ambiance: clean, romantic, fresh. Jazz music plays in the background. Lovely restroom - marble tables and fresh flowers. Food: Had the crazy boy roll and the tiger roll. I'm not a fan of raw fish, but I like the tiger roll a lot! Both were delish, just wish I liked actual sushi! Service: We got a young Asian guy. He tended to everything - from describing the good stuff, to waiting for me to take forever deciding, to refills, to the check in his pocket waiting! No complaints here. He was courteous, pleasant, and down to earth. Prices: Average. about $10/roll. But the rolls are delicious enough that I think they're worth it. I'll be back, someday when I'm nearby again.

This is my go-to sushi restaurant when I crave sushi and I will travel there from Whittier. They give you generous portions with good amounts of rice, filling, and fish for the rolls. The sushi slices are thick, fresh, and tasty. The rolls are also nicely presented. Ditto on the slow service and inattentiveness by the wait staff. You basically have to flag them down to get your check and order anything that is not made by the sushi chefs. I have always sat at the bar, never at the table. Once the waitress brings us our drink order, we basically never see her again. We turn in our sushi order slip to the chef and we eat our sushi. She never checks up on us again, even to see if we need our drinks refilled. So, one less star for that. However, it is the best tasting sushi place I've found in my area so I can't complain too much.

Finally tried this place recently and it was alright. We went here before the dinner crowd show up, so we were seated right away. The service here is excellent. Always attentive. The food here is just...meh. The rolls were just alright. The cowboy roll was interesting, but it kept falling apart. The Machu Pichu was probably the only thing I liked. We had the dinner entrees, but it were so nondescript that I cannot remember what we ordered. This is good place with friends to share some interesting rolls they have here. If I come back here again, I will just order the rolls and maybe try their sushi/sashimi.

This place is a foodies whet dream! BEST BEST BEST fusion sushi I've ever had, they have the most original rolls to delight your eyes and make your tummy happy! [not just boring Rainbow, Crunch, and sashimi ontop of california rolls with cute sauces] The menu is B-A-N-A-N-A-S! Want Steak and Gorgonzola Cheese on your Sushi, then get the Cowboy roll. Want to through all you know about sushi out the door? GO HERE if you want traditional sushi in a quiet atmosphere served by geishas? THEN STAY HOME! HEY PETER, did you take your Daugher here yet!?!?

  • Jessica B.

The food here is good but the service is terrible! I have been three times with friends and every time I have had to wait over a 45 min for our food to come. It's sushi, no cooking necessary. It just seems silly for it to take so long. On top of that our waitress was nowhere to be found. I think this place needs to step up it's service if it wants to keep customers. Only go to this restaurant if you have a lot of time on your hands and you don't mind waiting a long time to eat.

I love this place! I'm picky about my sushi and their sushi always tastes fresh and deliscious. The portions are large for the same price as you'd pay elsewhere. But, this is not your typical sushi place. You can get the usuals, but they have some unusual things on the menu too. I like the salmon sashimi, spicy baja roll, and mixed tempura. Yum! But, I've tried many of the dishes. They have have a sort of "nacho"s that is a raw tuna pate with chips and an interesting dessert with strawberries in a balsamic dressing. If you sit at the bar, the chef will make you whatever you want. This place is getting more and more popular... for a reason. They expanded recently and now have patio dining. So, that helps. But, expect a wait on weekend evenings. I've never had trouble with the service, but the business is family run. So, I think they may be caught off guard when large groups come in.

4.5 A very eclectic menu..with so many special rolls to choose from, like mango tango, calamari enchilada roll and some roll called Vegas. They all sounded amazing but we ended up with the Mountain Roll, which had spicy tuna, baked salmon outside and garlic crab inside. (yum) When the roll came it was topped with thin crispy onion rings and onion slices. the baked slamon was warm and perfect. The roll was huge and verrry tasty with a little spicy kick. We also ordered from the Lunch Specials Menu and shared the Crispy Herb Stuffed Chicken..which came with seasoned veggies and their green tea rice. The herb chicken was topped with green japanese pesto! It was such an exciting cuisine-like dish. The portions are LARGE..plenty to share. The service was very good. The place is small with a nice and pleasant atmosphere. I am so coming back!

This restuarant is good for the experimental Sushi lover. The owners/managment is really nice and accomadable. The sushi is fresh and prompt...there's no waiting around for hours, like some places. I would definitely call ahead on a Friday evening to make sure that the place isn't completely filled up, it is a small sushi joint. If you aren't into Sushi, Fish in a Bottle has a great alternative menu. And if you think you might want to start easing into sushi eating, try the Cowboy Roll. They make this roll with angus beef, asparagus (not raw), and a little blue cheese. Definitely not a traditional roll, but it is oddly delish. Also this restaurant has a good sense of food presentation...very artsy looking dishes. Not to be confused with restaurants that need smoke and mirrors to sell their meals...Fish in a Bottle has managed to make delicately constructed sushi taste wonderful.

If your expecting super authentic, Japanese food, pass on this place. But if you like a little something different and like to experiment with new rolls, this place is definitely worth going to. For a fusion sushi roll place, you cant go wrong here. the hamachi kama is good as well, though the piece we got this time was a little on the dry side. usually though it is great.

Mmmm, one of my favorite places for dinner, decent pricing. Usually start with some house cab and some miso. I get the crunch crunch rolls & add cream cheese. I'm not a fan of creamy sauces, so I usually sub with eel sauce. For dessert, my friends usually opt for the mochi balls (strawberry, mango, or chocolate) but I love the green tea ice cream....! This place is definitely worth going to on my cheat days. Been several times & I can't recall any bad customer service, like sitting on the patio. Went last night & averaged out to $20-25/person with 1 order of rolls, 1 glass of wine + dessert.

This is the best Sushi Bar n Grill in Yorba Linda! Dinner time can get crowded especially on the weekends. They are almost done with the patio area for additional guests. My favorite is the Crunch Crunch roll and the Chilean Sea Bass.

Interesting menu w/ a broad and, dare I say, innovative offering of sushi rolls and appetizers. There's definitely something for the adventurous, as well as the neophytes. The quality and presentation of the sushi is above average, with the usual assortment offered. Everything pretty much comes a la carte - you won't find any combination lunch specials at this place. I will have to say the service is often lacking, for which I deduct a star. Though unfailingly courteous, the wait staff always seems inexperienced which leads to some frustrations I can do without. The food service takes an excruciating amount of time. Don't go there if pressed for time. But once the food comes, it's usually high quality. Update: I think they've worked out their kinks. On a very busy Friday night, the food came quickly and was great. Also, I neglected to mention their generous portions. The sashimi/sushi slices are thick and drapes nicely over the rice. The side of tempura and you get a heaping portion, served on top of a cabbage salad. By the crowd we encountered, clearly they've become well come and the word is spreading. 4+ Stars!

This place blows! I'm sort of glad I went here finally because after months of wanting to try it, I had my chance... and it sucked. So many people gave it 4 or 5 stars so I had to give it a shot. My mom, sister, brother and I came here on my belated birthday dinner. The wait was long for a Sunday evening, 25 minutes or so. The waiting area is 2 chairs. Really? There were a ton of people waiting, and there were only 2 seats. So lame. The hostess was very nice, though. When got seated and were notified by our waiter that he was training someone. Great, horrible service is inevitable, right? RIGHT. We had to ask for things multiple times (water, refills, soy sauce plates, wasabi, fork for mom, the check, etc.). Really slow service and they forgot a roll. They prepared it fast, but we remember him reading what we ordered back to us, so that was his fault. Pricey, also. The entrees are expensive, but the rolls are decently priced. $9 for a softshell crab roll is insane. Too bad the food SUCKS. My brother had the Yaya Roll and spicy tuna roll. He said they were both bad. How do you screw up a spicy tuna roll?! My mom had the snapper stuffed with lobster and crab. My mom liked that, but she wasn't a fan of the sauce, which they put WAY too much of, or the rice, which seemed like it was made with tea to me. They REALLY like their sauces here. With that said, I ordered the baby lobster roll and the softshell crab roll. The softshell crab roll was ok if it wasn't sitting in a pool of eel sauce. I like eel sauce, but I don't like a lot of it, it masks flavors. And boy did it mask everything. They placed the roll in a bowl, on top of the sauce, and it made everything so soggy. I ended up only eating the crab and some of the imitation crab. Awful. Then there's the baby lobster roll. I was so excited about this one, because I've recently grown a liking to lobster and it sounded great to me. When it came to the table, it was DRENCHED in eel sauce. OMG. Literally, there wasn't a grain of rice, piece of crab, or lobster soaked in eel sauce. I had one piece and I was done, it was horrible. They might as well have given me a bowl of rice with eel sauce all over the top and charged me $5 for it instead of $12 for a really disgusting roll. I didn't like the place, the food, the decor, the service, the long wait, the location, etc. There are so many other sushi restaurants that have like 2 stars on Yelp and is waaaay better than this ( Octopus on Birch Street in Brea is GREAT despite the awful reviews).

So after consulting Yelp for a Japanese place in the Placentia/ Yorba Linda area, i came up with Fish in a Bottle. The reviews varied from "don't go there" to "this is my fave". i figure that since my friend and i are not experts we would just give it a shot and let our mouths decide. When walking up, the place looked full but once we we walked in the hostess said there was no wait. so we were off to a good start. after being seated the waitress took our drink orders, she was fairly pleasant but said there was no Coke, only Pepsi! while she went for our drinks my friend pointed out that the menu did not have pictures of the sushi and she did not no what to order. i joke that it didn't matter because she was probably going to order a crunch roll anyways. she said ha ha very funny Mr. smart guy. meanwhile i scanned the menu and was amazed at the different names of the rolls at this place. there was Machu Pichu roll, dragon crunch roll, midnight sun, steak Gorgonzola, calamari enchilada and crunch crucnh roll. I'm actually surprised that they didn't have a Captain Crunch roll. at any rate the menus was nice and creative but overall seemed like your typical menu for this type place minus the pictures. when the waitress took our orders the first item my friend order underneath her breath was the crunch crunch roll, go figure. then i ordered the calamari enchilada and the shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura presentation was actually pretty neat. they set it upright around a salad mound. the shrimp and veg. tempura was nice and crunchy, just right. my calamari enchilada was good too. it even came with jalapenos. The crunch crunch rolls were OK nothing special. as for the service, it was fair. probably would have been better if they were a little more attentive. I'm easy but i can see where the service may have been a problem for others. if i were in the area i would come again. i think next time i would order different rolls, maybe the machu pichu roll because it seems like a popular one and I'm curious if its as good as its claimed to be..

Okay. This place. Hmmm. Not all that great. It's not that it's bad, actually it is good. I do want to stress that. However, when I go to a fusion restaurant or Sushi place I'm looking for these things specifically: 1. Personality 2. Ambience 3. Service 4. Tradition. Now since it's a fusion joint, I don't expect a traditional menu or decor. That's fine. The decor is simple and elegant like nite out in the city driving by high rises on your way to the "it" bar. The food is "meh." It's just okay. The sushi selections are decent. The number of non traditional sushi rolls are good. But you see that pic at the top of the page? Well if you can't see it I'll tell you that there's a piece of sushi with a friend noodle/onion on it as garnish. The two times I've been there every roll I had had that garnish on it. It's not necessary. That and a couple of the rolls I ordered seemed rushed together; they fell apart at the touch. To me, this is not great sushi especially for the price, which isn't exorbitant but still not worth it. On the other hand I did try their filet mignon one visit. That, party people, was very good. It was actually a bit sweet which was an excellent surprise. It was tender and well prepared. They get my props there, but the sushi really is just okay.

We tried this place on a recommendation last night. The decor was nice, there were plenty of open tables, and the food came out pretty quickly. If you go to sushi spots for the sashimi and sushi, this is not the place to go. The fish just isn't very fresh. If you go for specialty rolls (there is a huge selection) and hot food, then it might be worth a try.

my favorite sushi restaurant in OC by far. the machu pichu is the most popular and best roll..although they have many others. we always get that and the fish and chips, which is actually spicy tuna with fried wonton chips. all their rolls are good except maybe for the cowboy roll. the service is slow which is sort of expected. the place is always packed. guarantee there will be a line out the door. they really need to expand or change locations. the seating arrangement is not desirable. but they still win me over on taste.

Great local fusion sushi place that's a little different from the rest. For Placentia, this place is quite unique. They have your basic nigiri and sashimi fare, but where they shine is in their specialty roles. Mango/salmon, duck confitt spring rolls, etc. Nice atmosphere with good service in a small space. We were asked to move to a another area of the restaurant while waiting for our dessert because a large party was coming in. We didn't mind, but it would've been nice if they gave us the dessert...just sayin. If you want to try some new ways to do sushi and some innovative rolls, this is a great place. If you just want basic sushi or all you can eat, go elsewhere.

I've been to Fsh in a Bottle twice now, and absolutely love it. The best roll that got me hooked in the Hawaiian Roll... Unagi, mango slices, unagi sauce... amazing. I've had a few other great rolls as well as just straight sushi. Everything is very good and I recommened it to everyone I come across. I eat sushi 2-3 times a week and I know the difference between fresh and something that has been sitting in a walk-in for a few days. I'm def in shock and awe over the people rating it at 1 to 2 stars...

This is a great Japanese fusion place. My wife and I decided we didn't want to drive far from Brea and checked out this hidden gem. We ordered the soft shell crab appetizer which we normally do at all Japanese restaurant and this was by far the best we have ever had. It came with tempura tomato which was an excellent pairing. We also ordered another appetizer, forgot the name, but it was lobster wrapped with white fish. This was also very good. We then ordered a salmon roll, if you like rolls this place has unique varieties but my wife and I are more into sashimi and nigiri so the roll was not to our liking. But not to say it wasn't good, just not our thing. We definitely enjoyed the appetizers and would come back here just for some sake and appetizers. The service was also very good and the presentation was amazing.

I thought this place was really good.. well, aside from the smooth jazz. my sushi was good (salmon) as was my yellowtail sashimi (they call it sashimi even though it's seared.) ::sigh:: i don't have it in me to be funny anymore. death to long reviews!

I LOVE Fish in a Bottle! The food is excellent, service is very good and the prices are very reasonable for the portion size. It's my favorite sushi spot.

Expensive, poor service, no respect for customers. The menu says '...crab...' ; not imitation crab, or the crassly honest 'Krab.' I specifically asked the lackadaisical server if the sushi contained imitation crab - it's important, because I have a problem with gluten, and imitation crab is loaded with it. She confidently assured me that it was real crab. Of course, when it finally came, it was the same old imitation crab that everybody else uses. When I pointed it out to her, she finally decided to check with the chef, and determined that it was imitation crab, but didn't offer to replace the meal with something I could actually eat. I asked her about it, and she said, "No, everybody uses the imitation crab." I have heard that people will forget what you say, but never forget how you made them feel. I felt that all Fish in a Bottle cared about was my money - and not much about my experience, or my return business.

We had popcorn lobster salad, Chilean sea bass, and 3 special rolls. Everything was delicious and fresh! We came here two nights in a row because we were only in CA for a couple of days and it's out favorite restaurant in this area. Friendly and accomodating service. I will definitely be back!

A close friend of mine brought me here one night, making me promise not to tell everyone about this place. I loved this place. It has a great lively enviroment with a patio are available as well. I loved their sushi quality. I got a goat cheese sun dried tomato, pesto roll which was great. I love the variety and creativeness they have in their rolls. I highly recommend their molten chocolate cake for dessert which you should order along with your entree because it takes 25 minutes to bake.

I had to try this place based on other yelper's reviews. I had Sake, Hirame, Ikura nigiri and Hamachi sashimi. I wanted to try Uni(my fav) but they said they were out of it. Booooo. Fish was pretty fresh and tasty. I wasn't expecting much since this is in Placentia. I'm glad I tried this place. I'm not really a big fan of fake rolls.(I say fake because we don't have this in Sushi bars in Japan) The best way to know if their fish is fresh is to order nigiri and sashimi. I'll be back again for sure. Service was OK. Not much to remember about. I'm still looking for 5 star sushi bar in North OC.

Not the place if you like sushi If you are a true sushi lover. The fish all taste the same...possibly beause it was frozen??? It is soggy and bland You want sushi? Go west a block to Oishi and order sashimi. The only only reason I gave this two stars is it is a cool place to hand out with friends. I have to object about the date complaint because I think the crazy menu lends to interesting conversation. I'm married and love sushi, tried this place three times and wasn't impressed. Check it out but be forewarned despite the "crazy" ingredients the only taste you get is from your soy sauce.

We tried this place for the first time last Friday and it was FANTASTIC! The place is usually packed, but it was a Friday at 2pm, so it wasn't too bad, but there were at least 5 other tables besides us. We ordered wayyy too much food, but it was worth it just to be able to try a little of everything. I ordered the Crunch Crunch roll (their tempura batter is the best I've ever had), California roll, and the teriyaki glazed salmon lunch plate with green tea infused rice. Hubby ordered the Sushi plate and another roll - forgot what it was called here, but elsewhere it's usually referred to as a Heart Attack roll because of the jalapenos. (See what I mean? We ordered wayyy too much). Like I said above, the food was amazing. The house salad is the BOMB! Everything tasted so fresh and we were really happy with all our choices. However, I docked them two stars because of the service. Now, I would have given them even less stars if it wasn't for our waitress. I know, you're thinking that doesn't make sense, right? But honestly, our waitress was sooo sweet and nice...and TOTALLY covering the room all by herself! I noticed that all the different parties were seated at tables far away from each other (including outside on the patio), so she was definitely doing laps as she went around trying to do everything she could. There was another guy there when we arrived who seated us, but he disappeared right after that. There was an older asian lady dressed all fancy - I think she was the owner - and she just walked around doing nothing. Meanwhile, our drinks needed a serious refill, but our poor waitress was so caught up helping all the new parties that came in that she ignored us (and we didn't end up getting a second refill until the end when she came to bring us our check). At first it was irritating, but after a while we could see that she was busting her ass with no help from anyone else. Meanwhile, there were random people going in and out of the kitchen, all of whom were getting in her way. There was an older asian guy and a tall guy with glasses who kept walking in and out of the kitchen and it was starting to piss me off because it's like they all could see that she was having a hard time and yet no one did anything to help her! If the owners of Fish in a Bottle are reading this, you need to give Patty a SERIOUS raise, and maybe some paid time off to rejuvenate or something. She never ONCE got upset or frustrated, and if she did, she didn't show it. And maybe next time, when you've got a restaurant with more than 5 different parties and only one waitress, you'll show them the respect that they deserve and help them out. After all, how would you be able to run a business without them? Especially when they're as nice and professional as Patty is.

Such a cute restaurant, which you would never know from the outside. The staff is really nice and attentive. The sushi was delicious, and about averaged price for sushi (a bit expensive) Seared Albacore Sashimi (i always get) is as it usually is in most restaurants--very flavorful. Cowboy Roll, i didn't like, but my friends did. Baked Baby Lobster, was a bit saucy for my taste, but still very good. One of my friends order the Chicken Teriyaki Entree and he was not impressed at all. The restaurant is small, so sometimes they get very crowded. However i did see couples sitting outside sipping on sake waiting for their table.

Super fresh and very yummy sushi! You have to try the ginger creme brulee! The chicken teriyaki is boneless, skinless breast meat grilled and the teriyaki sauce generously poured over top. It's really delicious, and perfect for people who don't like sushi. Tons of sushi, rolls, and sashimi choices.

My husband and I stumbled upon this place one day and have not regretted it since! We're both not into sashimi so if that's what you're looking for - I couldn't help you. But if you love sushi rolls, this is the place to go! The menu calls for "different" sushi rolls and you'd definitely be amazed at the creations that they have come up with. At first I was a bit taken aback when our crunch roll came with carrots inside, but my husband loved it. We've tried maybe half of the sushi roll menu and haven't been disappointed yet. One of our favorite rolls is that Machu Pichu (something like that). It definitely has a little bit of kick to it and you've got to like cream cheese to like this roll. It's definitely a must try. The prices at first seem a little much (around $10 for rolls) but when you notice how much you get, it's really a great deal. We've also tried a few of their desserts - our favorite is the strawberries... they serve strawberries with balsamic vinegar and some other "secret" ingredients - but they're definitely tasty. I would definitely recommend this place to any sushi lovers! Be careful though, if you intend to try it on a Friday or Saturday for dinner - be prepared for a wait!

Fish In A Bottle is so unexpecting. From the outside, it doesn't really stand out, but the inside is like a small romantic hide-away. The first time I went there, I remember thinking I wanted to take my next boyfriend there on a date and I did. Now, we're there pretty regularly. All I've ever had is their sushi, and I LOVE IT. Nothing can compare to their dragon roll. They make all of their dishes look beautiful and taste wonderful. So far everyone I've taken there has craved it and been there multiple times since. I wish the prices were a little lower, but it's only a dollar more than your average sushi place for rolls if not less than or equal to. I actually find their portions quite generous. My boyfriend, who eats a lot, and I usually get half a salad and 2 rolls, our favorite being the dragon roll. Sometimes we get two of them or one and then another with salmon such as the vegas roll (yummy! it's five pieces but they're really large pieces) or midnight sun (yummy and filling but if you don't like cream cheese in your sushi, don't get it) and we're stuffed. Their salad is very good as well. I also heard a lot of their other rolls are delicious but I never get them because I'm allergic to shrimp and a few other seafoods. My only real critique is that sometimes there's a little too much cream cheese in the rolls with cream cheese that it gets overwhelming, but I'm sure if you ask for only a little bit they would definitely cater to you. As for their service, I've never had a problem with it. All the waitresses and waiters are lovely and have never been rude to me or any of my friends. They come check on you at appropriate times and it's not difficult to get their attention. The sushi chefs are also very nice. The first few times I went, I would sit at the sushi bar and continuously ask what they are making and what's in it, and they never seemed annoyed or anything. Basically, I love this place.

An innovative sushi restaurant with most importantly fresh fish. The rolls are not only creative but tasty as well. I would recommend this spot to those of you who've got both an eye and taste for Japanese Cuisine.

Pretty good sushi joint. Seems like their specialty is rolls since there is one page in 12 point font text of all rolls! Our group ordered a bunch of rolls. I saw the cowboy roll and had to try it just because it was different. It was huge but I would stick with the fish next time. One of my favs was this one roll with jalapenos on top. It reminded me of a Vietnamese sandwich. Also the spicy tuna with friend wonton chips were awesome! I would have eaten that all by myself!

This place really disappointed me. I was very excited to try this place but it was a HORRIBLE letdown. Went here last night and is started off promising. We got there just before 8 and were quickly sat at the sushi bar. The place was busy but not packed or super busy. We were sitting at the bar about 10 minutes before the server finally took our drink order. Okay. Still open minded. I'm hungry and love me some raw fish so I didn't think too much about it. They ended up either bringing us the wrong drinks or getting our drink order wrong, and we just got soda! We proceed to sit there for 20 minutes with no one paying attention to us. The sushi chefs completely ignored us so we thought maybe we needed to order from the waiter. We honestly spent 20 minutes trying to get either the chef's or the waiters attention. No one seemed to notice us. My boyfriend finally got up and had to wiggle our sushi list at the chef for him to pay attention to us. Once he did get our list he actually said "I have all of these tickets before you, but I'll take care of you when I'm done." We probably should have left at that moment but I was hungry and really wanted sushi on my mouth. Sushi took forever and was just okay. Nothing special. We got our order in sections and had a wait a long while in between. We never saw our server again after he got our drinks. Our drinks never got refilled. My bf's ice actually melted all the way and there was never anyone there to get him a refill. I have vowed to never go back but I will maybe, possibly give this place another try, maybe. If I'm starving and every other restaurant in the world is closed for some crazy apocalyptic reason and I can't find any stray animals to kill and grill over an open flame, then maybe I'll go here and give it another try.

I don't eat ANY seafood so every time I go have sushi with people I end up with teriyaki chicken or vegetable tempura. Not at Fish in a Bottle. They take non seafood ingredients and serve them like sushi rolls. I've tried three different selections and I would order any one of them again. Not only are they delicious but I get to participate in the sushi fun. My friends/family said the (seafood) sushi was fantastic. If you're in a hurry, make sure you avoid typically busy restaurant times. If you're OK hanging out it's worth the wait.

For a Japanese fusion restaurant, this place is well in the competition with other more traditional sushi places. Loved the freshness and texture of the fish. I was really impressed with the big slices they serve. Green tea was also really good. Restroom was clean! If you're looking for a good place to eat with comparable prices, please come here and check out the tuna, salmon and hamachi sushi. The crunch dragon roll was also delicious.

YUM! There aren't many decent sushi places out where I live so it was great when my friend took me here the other night. It was so good I took my bf here a few days later. Food: We ordered the calamari fritti as an appetizer...calamari strips breaded and fried with delicious seasoning and topped with parmesan cheese. it came with this really good dipping sauce, kinda spicy but def. good. We then got the French Kiss and the Mountain. Both really good! The only problem was that the french kiss roll was a little too big so you had to break it up to eat so you couldn't get all the tastes at once. My bf and I again ordered the French Kiss(it was that good!) and the baby lobster. the baby lobster roll came out warm and it just melted in your mouth. It wasn't my fave but the bf loved it. Service: the servers were decent but the host (probably the son of the owner) didn't do anything! rather than helping out the lone server he just sat there and read a magazine. it took us 10 min just to get the check since after the host processed the bill he waited for the server to bring it to us when he could have easily handed it to us. take into mind we were sitting right across from where he was standing/greeting. booooo!

This was our fourth visit to FI TB. Previously we enjoyed the food and always got a table even when it was busy. But this time ended that streak. We ordered the prawns with pineapple and black rice and were shocked with what we got. The prawns were overcooked to the point of leather. We each ate one and stopped immediately. When the waiter asked how we were doing we told him it was bad, that we had picked at the rice and pineapple to have some food. Well that meant we owned the dish and paid $22 for less than nothing. I mentioned this to the owner on the way out, and she said we should have returned the dish, that we indeed owned it at that point. So one less customer over $22.

ive been going here for great sushi for about 3 years. whenever i crave raw fish.. this is the place i go to. i would say the hot plates are meh... just eat sushi here. but the rolls are really creative and mmhhmm so good. they give you prob. the biggest slabs of fish on their nigiri than any other sushi place ive been to. and everytime ive been there.. the quality of the fish was pretty good. their sushi would be perfect if they served their raw fish slightly chiller. ambience: looks like they had a great interior decorator.. but the owners just HAD to add their final touches haha (hanging fake roses and ribbons all over) overall.. cozy.. bathroom is clean (if youre wondering).. and service is good (however management is prob. not so good because every time i go there.. the servers look so stressed out.. taking care of too many tables at once)

I went to grab dinner with a friend in the area and she suggested Fish in a Bottle based on Yelp reviews, so we gave it a try. It was surprisingly crowded, considering that it was a Thursday in the middle of the holidays and that it's located in an otherwise sleepy-looking strip mall. The decor and ambiance were also a bit more chic than I had expected. Unlike some other Asian fusion restaurants, the menu items were creative without sounding frivolous. They have a good selection of enticing entrees, but we mostly stuck with the sushi (some nigiri pieces and some rolls). We started with the lobster spring roll appetizer, which was crispy and meaty but not too heavy. The nigiri sushi here has some of the thickest, most satisfying slabs of fish I've ever seen in a sushi restaurant. We also had a mountain roll, which was loaded with what was truly a mountain of fried onions and other miscellaneous crispies. Finally, we got a butterfly roll, which also had generous pieces of fish on top. Their roll menu is large and varied and I'm sure there's something for everyone. The sliced cucumbers they included were a nice touch and helped to cleanse the palate between foods. Some people here have complained about poor service, but the service we received was friendly and efficient. Prices are decent too. It isn't fancy or, I'd imagine, terribly authentic, but all in all I thought this was a great place and I am definitely coming back. Five stars because I couldn't find anything to complain about.

This is the best sushi restaurant around. I love mackerel sushi and it's always fresh here. I am here almost weekly with either familly or friends and eveyone loves the food. Favorites include the soft shell crab roll and everyones favorite, the crunch roll. Highly recommended - but get there early, especially on Fri-Sat unless you're willing to wait ~ 30 minutes.

I have had dinner several times at Fish in a Bottle. I am not typically a sushi fan. It is very close to where I live and I have passed it a million times. Recently, they renovated the patio and I decided to check it out. I was pleasantly amazed at the creativity of the rolls they have to offer. The food is delicious and I have asked others to join me for dinner there as well. My friends were equally impressed. I only wish the service was better. Many times, we had to wait long periods of time for our order to arrive. I have to say, it's worth the wait.

Did not like this place at all. The place is so small and crowded... I felt I had no privacy! The place was too dark and loud. They tried to make the place look modern with the Japanese hint to it... I don't like their fushion style of rolls. I like to stick with the authentic style of Japanese food.

Sex...sushi...same thing, right? This place was amazing. The fillet mignon-wrapped asparagus was beyond belief. Freshest fish I have ever had the pleasure of devouring. It was like butter and just melted in my mouth. For dessert, I had the Mochi (dough-covered ice cream). Get the assorted where you get 2 of each of the 3 flavors (mango, chocolate, and strawberry). I am not too into strawberry ice cream, but that was the best flavor...and thats not just settling on the best. It was damn good! The others I was with had the banana something or other that looked really REALLY fucking good. I loved the Japanese/American/whatever fusion thing going on there. There is what I remember to be called a "Cowboy Roll" that is like steak and all kinds of manly American shit. (I'll never try it) Cool for late night. I went on a Friday at bout 9:30 and had about a 15 minute wait. Not bad... I remember their alcohol selection being pretty open, though I was not graced with the privilege of trying anything, for I was the driver. Service could have been a little bit better, though our waiter was very nice and helpful. It was just a busy night, I guess. Pricing is moderate. If you are going out for sushi you should expect to be spending quite a bit, otherwise you are retarded. This place is not much more than any other sushi place though.

My girlfriend, Liz, and the hubs came out here for dinner last night to celebrate my first time running in a half-marathon. We loved the unique and interesting names from the rolls from here and couldn't wait to try some new ones that we didn't get to try from our last visit. We came at the perfect time for dinner here, around 630 and within 20 minutes of arriving the entire place was full. It was only a Monday night! I was amazed and very happy little places like this do so well. We asked the server what he would recommend as some good rolls for us to enjoy, and seriously - each one that he pointed out - we would have ordered. I should have re-read my review to have realized that we had gotten the Ya-ya, French Kiss & Butterfly last time. This time around we ordered the Ya-ya (he gave it a major thumbs up) and the Honeymoon and crunch dragon. Hubby doesn't eat sushi, but he still came around to enjoy dinner. He ordered the filet mignon with wasabi butter and wasabi potatoes, shrimp and grilled veggies. We also split of order of perfectly salted edamame, a great way to open up the palate for all the sushi that you'll be devouring. All of the rolls were beautifully plated and looked too good to eat. But of course, Liz & I brought our appetite and couldn't wait to indulge in our sushi feast! Ya-ya was a tuna roll with a little dollop of sriracha sauce and a perfectly sliced jalapeno..whoa buddy, that roll was HOT! It wasn't flaming in your nostrils hot, but hot like heat warming up your body. It was not my favorite roll because of the spice factor, but it wa still tasty. The Honey moon was a cream cheese filled california roll with baked salmon on top, it was my fave roll of the night. The creamy cream cheese had paired well with the baked salmon and garnished with fried onion strings and more. The crunch dragon was our second favorite - spicy tuna with crunchy panko toppings and ponzu sauce. I might have mixed them up, or I'm not naming the right ingredients in them...but these were our top picks. Whatever they had in them was MAGICALLY DELICIOUS!! Order them and see for yourself if they are fantastic and worthy of a sushi-trophy. Overall, a highly enjoyable sushi dinner - great reccomendations from the server, and I can't wait to come back again for my next sushi lovers meal!

We must have stopped by here on a bad day. We ordered 2 rolls and an appetizer. The appetizer came first and was SO salty, we were bloated and feeling yucky by the time the rolls came. The rolls were nothing extraordinary. The lobster on one was mushy and tasted old. Definitely nothing spectacular and doubt we'd be willing to stop by again to give them a second chance.

Fish in a Bottle. What can I say. Yes, the wait can be long but they're always busy so I guess one should expect that. Sushi. YUMM. Everything I tried here has been great. Better than the OC sushi restaurants that for sure. They have the freshest tuna. So good, red, and beautiful. The fish and chips appetizer is REALLY good. It's tuna tartar (tuna mush) with wonton chips. WONTON CHIPS!!! Come on! That's the best! Hmmm I'm not sure on all the names of the rolls we tried but definitely anything with tuna, salmon, shrimp tempura, eel sauce, crunchy something, or spicy in the description was tried. Decor is great. Chic, simple, hollywood/LAish.... I definitely think it's worth the drive. If you don't have time to wait then choose something else but it is worth it. I am going tonight actually. LOL

If you're into asian fusion and rolls, this is the place for you. Their menu requires some meditation, meaning you actually have to close your eyes and visualize what their imaginative/creative items would look or taste like. I read somewhere the sushi chef is Korean but was born, raised, and trained in Japan. I came here with my coworker for our usual Friday lunch. H (my coworker) doesn't like raw fish so we ordered the baked lobster roll, machu picchu roll (shrimp tempura, spicy crab, cucumber, etc), and a grilled chicken breast entree to share. The baked lobster roll came in a bowl (hmm different) and the macchu picchu roll looked about 1 foot long (no joke). The chicken breast was served with a green sauce, grilled/roasted vegetables, and also came with salad and rice. The chicken was sort of on the dry side and wasn't really fusion-y (is that a word?) so I don't think I'll be ordering it again. The rolls are on the pricey side ranging between $7.95 to $11.95, with a majority of them at $9.95. Their sushi ranges between $3.50 for Hokigai to $4.45 for Hamachi to $9.95 for Toro just give a general idea. Nonetheless their rolls seem interesting and I probably would go back to check out their regular sushi. Update: We went back and this time I ordered the sushi lunch special which came with a california roll and 5 pieces nigiri sushi. The sushi is chef's choice which is usually tuna, salmon, shrimp, albacore, and something else (I forgot). The fish was fresh and it was a good portion.

Clean, friendly service, outside seating, always busy, decent prices. Food - Huge menu. Plenty of fusion rolls for those w/out a raw fish palette. Random dishes w/gorgonzola, balsamic vinegar, etc. 1. Ya-Ya Roll - Yellowtail, spicy yellowtail, siracha and jalapeno. Talk about a kick! Fish was fresh. Didn't like the cilantro. Flavors didn't blend well. In addition, texture was like biting into rice wrapped in layers of herbs and fish. No crunch! 2. Spicy Edamame - Highly recommended. Sauteed in garlic chili oil. Yum. 3. Crunchy Hand Roll - Nori was soft upon arrival.

I've read a lot of reviews of this place that comment on it not being great sushi, which I pondered on. I think there could be purists out there, possibly 1st generation Japanese or kin that are super-tasters and can tell the difference between 12 and 24-hour fish. For those folks, yes, I think they have a point. But for the rest of the world, you'll really love it.

If you truly like sushi, this place may not be for you. If you are familiar with Matsuhisa, Nobu, Sushi Wasabi, Sasabune, you may not want to venture in here looking for good sushi. As a matter of fact, the only time the fish is good here is when you order a roll that is covered in sauce so full of flavor that it masks the quality of the fish. I don't even like the tuna here as safe as that type of fish is at most places. Traditional sushi, it's not, but the fun atmosphere and good sauces make it a place I will visit every now and then.

After reading an article about Fish in a Bottle from the local city magazine and passing by everyday during lunch hour and seeing it packed made me wonder what the fuss was all about. I'm a fan of cheese. It really does enhance the flavors of a dish but cheese and sushi rolls don't mix. In fact cheese and Asian food never mix. Actually if you want to take it a step further, cheese and Asian people don't mix. We are lactase deficient people. Even though the place is going for a fusion route, I think putting gorgonzola as a sushi roll topping is going a bit too far. And I hate it when rolls have cream cheese in them. Cream cheese belongs on bagels people! Not on rice. I think I saw about 5 rolls with cream cheese. Ok, enough about cheese. The other rolls had some interesting ingredients in them. Very fusion, and I just wasn't in the mood to try. I opted for the traditional route of sushi and sashimi. The salad that came before the fish had a sweet soy vinaigrette with a slice of Korean pear that seemed to have been marinated in something. It tasted quite familiar, but couldn't place my taste buds on it. The fish melted in my mouth, which was an excellent sign. The menu is filled with fusion items and it's creativity though sometimes odd, is refreshing to see in this part of the town. (I am so used to Bay Area cuisine that I have almost gone insane here). At least they are trying something new and exciting in chain restaurant central OC. And I'm sure that others appreciate it to as the place is always packed with a wait during dinner time. Though the service is slow and sometimes confused (One waiter took our order, and then another one 10 minutes later wanted to take it again...) it was okay since I didn't even notice because of the people I was with. I would come here again to try out their menu some more.

Great place for the family or a nice romantic date for 2. Their sushi platter and Crunch Crunch Roll is a must. You can bring your own wine! Just wish the service was better. We sometimes find ourselves waiting too long for even a refill. If they can get this cured, 5 Stars!

I'm not a huge fan of fish or sushi but was pleasantly surprised by the selection of sushi items at Fish in a Bottle! Try the "cowboy sushi." It is amazing! The service is wonderful and they are very friendly!

best sushi in all of orange county. Service could be a little better but the atmosphere makes up for it. Will return again.

Truly, a real fusion sushi! If you like the American style sushi, this is the place for you. This restaurant is very neat, restroom is also clean. Most of all, food was delicious and I love the food decoration. But I think they need to put a bigger signboard for the first time visitors. I was searching around for the restaurant by car and it wasn't easy to find it at the mall. GO TRY IT!

I went here one afternoon for lunch, thanks to my boss who treated us, and it was really good sushi. I had the spicy tuna roll and it was one of the best i've had! The place was comfy, casual, and the prices are excellent for all that you get. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there but if I'm in the area and craving sushi, i'd definitely go there!

I've driven by a few times and my friend and I were looking for a different sushi place to hit up. I've lived in fullerton for 2 years now and I've yet to find my personal sushi joint, so I'm always trying to find a new place. And Fish in the Bottle, by looking at it, I didn't know it was a japanese restaurant. It is and its not japanese food. Yes they have a sushi bar with great sushi but the menu had a lot of cooler appetizers and a decent wine list. we came during a late lunch and we just went straight to the sushi bar. off the bat, its a nice looking place. very clean place and really nice decor. and a really nice patio. I ordered some tuna cut rolls and a spicy tuna hand roll, Sushi tasted fresh. and then I got the sushi and sashimi platter. It also came with a salad, which was in a vinaigrette which had candied pecans in it, definitely not a japanese type salad. But it was all really good. Its a nice change, a bit confusing but it was good. I'm feeling conflicted in whether or not to give this a 4 or a 5... they had great and fresh sushi but at the same time, I wasn't wowed either..... I'm gonna go again and try the dinner menu. so stay tuned...

The albacore specialty sushi is the bomb! I could eat it every night! I also love their house salad with their delicious soy balsamic dressing! I have not ventured out into too many rolls but the ones I have had were all good. The service has always been great and I like the new addition of the patio!

Is bacon the most perfect food ever? Does bacon really make everything better? Does bacon belong on a sushi roll? The answer can be found at Fish in a Bottle. Here, you can have a sushi roll - and, I should point out, that when you have a sushi roll that has bacon, potatoes and fried onions on it, it stops being sushi - that has that holiest of foods on it. To say that I liked it doesn't mean I think all sushi should have bacon. But I digress. The other rolls here are done in true California style. Lots of fusion going on here, which shouldn't be surprising, given the surge of fusion food over the past few years. There are other rolls here, such as the "cowboy" (which has steak and blue cheese in the middle) that are adventurous and different. I also dug the hamachi appetizer, with an ume soy vinegrette and jalapenos, and the other roll I had, which had tuna, avocado, and few other things that I can't remember. Overall, considering what we're working with here (the owners are Korean and Japanese, so I luckily did not have to be too angry over another Korean owned Japanese place coming into existence), this place is not bad at all. I think it warrants a further try. The interior is also nice looking, and the service was good. Though I'm still confused as to why it's called Fish in a Bottle.

This place was great! I went here last night with my brother and his fiancee. The three of us are sushi roll/sake aficianados and wanted to try something different. It is very nice inside but very small. The three of us had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, but whatever. Our waitress was very sweet, but a little absent. Generally service was friendly but not entirely 'there', there were long periods of time in between when that she'd come check on us. No biggie though, we had our sake to keep us warm! I didn't look at any part of the menu but the rolls, so I can't really comment on anything but them. The roll menu is sooooo extensive! It is an entire page, and since my peeps and I like everything, they were very tough choices. We started with the Vegas roll, the Hawaiian roll and the Baby Lobster roll. I can't quite remember what was in all of those (did I mention I was drinking sake?) but they were all delicious, and beautifully presented! When we decided we wanted one more roll we asked our waitress for a recommendation. She tried to give us an easy, boring Crunch roll, but we wanted to get something off the wall, so we asked her about their Blue Mountain roll. This roll is crab, avocado, mozzerella cheese, potato strings and blueberry jam. My peeps thought it was okay, but I really liked it. I am definitely a fan of sweet & salty, and blueberry in general. It wasn't my favorite, but it was good and it's fun to try something random like that. Overall I think this place is great, and I think you'll enjoy it! :)

Looooooove this place!! Truely a gem!! My freinds and I rave about it! Everything Ive had here was scrumdillyumptious!!! The baked Lobster Roll makes you wanna slap yo mama. All kidding aside, great place to come. Cute decor, very trendy and I have not had to wait too long for a table. The perfect Fusion place if you're looking for a little "kick" to your soosh. Cant wait to go back!

Absolutely wonderful food. The Chilean sea bass is the best fish I have ever eaten. Never had a bad bite there and we visit frequently. Nice atmosphere, friendly, helpful owner and staff. Not a big place and yes, it gets crowded in the evening. But it's worth the wait!

I've been to Fish in a Bottle several times now and really can't wait to go back. I love the food! The Baby Lobster roll is so wonderful, and we also really like the Machu Pichu, Crunch Crunch and the house salad is amazing! My complaint is like so many others...the service is not so good. It just takes forever to order, be served drinks, refills, the plates, chopsticks, food, etc.....even if the restaurant isn't full. So don't go here if you are wanting a quick meal!

I have been dying to try this place for so long as I pass it everyday on my way to work. I finally hit it up with BFF and fellow yelper Natalie L. on Friday night and am happy to say it was so completely worth the wait. This place was incredible. We had the Baby Lobster and Avocado Spring rolls to start (OMG, I practically came in my pants) two orders of tuna sushi (like buttah) the Ya Ya roll (Cilantro, albacore, jalapenos...It hurt So good) and the Crazy Boy roll (a heart attack on the plate but worth every bite). Yee gods. The inside is so damned cute, our waitress was a total sweetheart, and I ate my weight in sushi (And drank it in Asahi). This is definitely one of my new favorite places.

I was a little torn on whether or not to give a 4 or 5 star to this restaurant...5 star wins because overall it was great... The only negative - I drove up from San Diego for the weekend to stay with my sister at CSUF after I got off work, so we got to the restaurant a little later than I would have liked...at about 7:10 on a Saturday night. We were told the wait would be 20-25 minutes. We ended up waiting about an hour to be seated. We were debating on going elsewhere, but.... I'm so glad we stayed. As other reviewers have said, the decor was nice, the hostess' outfit was outlandish, and the people were VERY friendly. We ordered a California Roll (cause who doesn't love a California roll?) the Spicy Tuna Roll, the Crunch-Crunch roll (YUMM), and one other roll that I can't remember the name of (it was a baked roll with salmon on top and teriyaki sauce drizzled over it). Everything was excellent! We sat at the Sushi Bar and the Sushi guy (what are they called? Itamae?) was great. He was REALLY, REALLY quick getting our food out to us, which helped the rating a lot after the long wait, and he was totally friendly. The server was very attentive and super nice. All in all, it was a great experience. I can't wait to go up and visit my sister again so that we can go back! This time we'll try to get there a little earlier and maybe beat the Saturday night dinner crowd!!

This place is awesome!!!! The rolls here are so creative and fresh. We always get the Hamachi Kama too.. not sure if it's on the menu yet but we just asked for it cause it's our favorite dish at other places and they delivered. One of the best Sushi places in the OC!

We went there about a week ago. When we first walk in we saw this young guy with a tooth pick in his mouth and ask us 'in or out?" which means inside or patio. We pick inside with a weird impression of this place!! However, impression is one thing but their food was good~the presentation is good, and honestly, we like this place! We will be back!

Fish in a bottle? I wasn't very convinced when I heard the name of this restaurant, but a friend really wanted to go after work so I gave in. I was surprised to see a packed parking lot on a Wednesday evening, and even more surprised to find that there was a 15 minute wait. During our wait, we took a look at the menu and had a few good laughs.... Blueberry jam on a roll??? Sounded a bit sketchy but still, decided to give the place a shot. We sat down and the waiter was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a pot of green tea, mixed tempura (shrimp and veggies), Baja roll, and Mountain roll. The rolls were very "Americanized" (but we weren't surprised, the menu clearly said something along the lines of "Sushi, the American way"). The sauce on the Baja roll was a little too sweet, but the tuna tasted fresh which somewhat saved the dish. The rolls could have been better, but the tempura was amazing. It was served on a bed of cabbage with the Asian salad dressing and peanuts. The tempura was light and crispy, and we could tell that it was made fresh rather than pre-made and sitting in the kitchen for who knows how long. Best part of the dinner. Don't go to Fish in a Bottle if you are looking for authentic sushi, but the restaurant still deserved 4 stars. Fair prices, great service, and really just a nice place to sit down and eat dinner. The decor is nice and fancy, even though from outside it looks pretty run down.

Thanks to all the other yelpers, I didn't expect the japaneesy sushi restaurant I used to go to often in Tokyo. if you can keep an open mind (as i was able to) i suggest you go too to try. I suggest getting the tostada appetizer that has spicy tuna in it. The whatever sweet brown sauce they have on there goes very well with the rice and fish. They have a huge list of just rolls that takes up one long page. there must be more than 20 in that list!! i love the names they come up for each roll, very imaginative. the rolls were gigantic. very good. the cowboy roll (which had beef and i believe feta cheese) was a bit too out there for my tastes. we got some shrimp egg roll with sweet sauce, which was good too. the soft shell crab/tomato deep fried dish someone recommended was good too, but i wish they used a sweeter tomato to give the dish and crab extra flavor. enjoyed a glass of their riesling with the meal. we opted for a table and got a great seat by the window as we got there a bit early for the usual dinner time so we got to watch the sun set as we had our meal. they also have the sushi bar that seats approximately ten people. there is a Japanese head chef dude who probably cuts the sashimi for the sushi and then the non-Japanese helpers who probably roll up those gigantic rolls. we ordered the ya-ya and the Vegas rolls to go for my other sibling and wolfed it down without a problem and was told it was really tasty. the funny thing is, the lady who works the cash register, we kept seeing her at different places several times since we went there last week, i saw her shopping at nordstrom rack and then again at the old pancake house, lol.

I came here for lunch with my mother on a repeated rave review from our neighbor. Yes, we live in Yorba Linda. No, there aren't many options nearby. Thought: Hostesses at Japanese restaurants always confuse me with what they choose to wear. At least the decor was nice. Anyway, the food was definitely creative and adventurous for being a Japanese restaurant with a focus on sushi rolls, and since I've only been here once, I can only speak on four dishes: 1. Seared Yellowtail Appetizer ($13.95-ish) 2. Hawaiian Roll ($8.95 at lunch) 3. Soft Shell Crab Roll ($9-10ish) 4. Stuffed Strawberry Dessert ($6.95) The seared yellowtail was fairly mindblowing for me because I don't really like uncooked or even seared fish, but my mom pushed for it, and it was delicious, with appropriate sauce and other vegetable dressings. Good for two people to share as an appetizer. Both rolls were beauties in presentation. The Hawaiian roll's kicker was the macadamia nut crunch -- it really made the roll tastier, and the mango slices atop each roll were a nice touch. The Soft Shell Crab roll (aka Spider Roll in other Japanese restaurants) was pretty good, with normal portions (6 pieces). Dessert was a spur-of-the-moment thing. The waiter promised me that the tomato juice inside the strawberries wouldn't taste like V8. The dish came in all its trendy-long-rectangle-plate glory, spotted with 6-8ish strawberries stuffed with tomato juice and other stuff I can't remember, with ice cream on the side. Fairly satisfying, though I'm not sure I'd order it again... it was mostly the intrigue factor that made it cool. I'd come back to see what else on the menu is good.

The sushi is tasty and its probably one of the best ones in the area. I just moved to Placentia so I honestly can't compare to local competitors. As usual with great places, the wait is long for dinner. I'm a Nigiri sushi lover (fish on top of rice) and have had the albacore, tuna, yellow tail, sea urchin, salmon, etc. All were pretty fresh and yummy. 1 time the service was veeeery slow, but other then that I'd come here often.

i give fish in a bottle 3.5 stars. the decor is very nice. the quality of the fish is decent and the presentation is good as well of the rolls. like some of the other reviewers mentioned earlier they are on the slower side in terms of making your order so be sure you have time. went on a Wednesday night and it wasn't that busy either too! overall i am satisfied with the quality of the food and decor. service could be a little faster but overall i'm happy. they have lots of items on their cooked item menu which i might try if and when i go there again.

Went there Monday night. Must have been 15 people in the place. Nice simple decor and low lighting. We got 3 rolls, a hand roll, and an appetizer and it came out to be $70 which includes tip and two soft drinks. It was pretty good sushi, I have had better, but for Yorba Linda it is perfectly fine. I will go again for sure.

This place has great food. Their rolls are good Asian fusion, and their entrees are also good. I recommend the salmon and the machu pichu roll. One thing is that the service here is not the greatest. Expect a wait when it comes to getting your server's attention

It was both a huge surprise and a relief to find this place so close to my family's home. Their neighborhood is pretty disappointing when it comes to restaurants, but a few independent places like this are making it far more bearable have an extended visit there. The rolls were creative and really tasty, and the spicy tuna chips were quite good--though the portion was huge! The one drawback is that the sushi bar area is a bit cramped and uncomfortable, but otherwise, a place that I would definitely go again!

let me just preface: this is NOT an authentic japanese restaurant. so don't go there expecting excellent fresh fish. However, if you're willing to keep an open mind and appreciate the creativity and be adventurous this place is definitely very quaint and the food is very intriguing. i don't love it but i'll probably be back in for the atmosphere and to see what else they come up with. when it comes down to it, just go and give it a try.

I love Japanese food, used to work in one, and my fiance was a Japanese Chef. I passed by this place a lot and was curious of its name, but never went in. Last night my friend yelped this place so we decided to give it a shot. We waited for about 20-30 minutes, we called but they don't take reservation. This place is definitely small, it's not for large group. We started with softshell crab, the best I've ever eaten!!!! We also had lobster and avocado spring roll, I loved it because they put a lot of avocado, but couldn't taste the lobster. This dish reminded me of BJ's avocado eggroll but BJ's was better. Then we had 3 different rolls, the first one was Bora Bora, which had a sweet pineapple flavor in it and the interesting thing was we couldn't find any pineapple. Bora Bora was interesting because they sprinkled cheddar cheese on it! WEIRD! Second roll was Cowboy, rib eye steak with veggies and cheese! It sounded good but didn't taste so good, I think the cheese (I forgot what kind) was too strong, steak was dry, and the roll was too big. Imagine it was so big you can only eat half a piece at a time. I had the cheese first, it was so strong I had to hurry and eat the rest of the piece hoping that all of the flavor of cheese and steak would go well, but it didn't. I've had a much better steak roll at a place called SHOGUN before and theirs was very good. Last roll was interesting and very good!!! It's called YA YA, had spicy yellowtail inside with cilantro, top with albacore and jalapeno with ponzu sauce. OMG!!! It was soooo spicy but delicious!!!! I wish my fiance was there to taste it, he loves fusion food and sushi, this is definately something he would love. Lastly we had Sushi & Sashimi Platter, which was a little disappointing because I could tell all of the fishes were frozen. I've had frozen sushi from many places, but this one was bad frozen fish. So if you plan to go, try something new and exciting, don't do traditional sushi, it will disappoint you. If you want authentic Japanese with fresh fish, go to Ojiya in Chino Hil

this is THE place to go for fusion sushi. lots of different choices. rolls are gigantic. one roll is definitely enough for one person. my favorite was the midnight roll - cream cheese, crab, & avocado topped with cooked salmon & onion rings. super super yum! cowboy roll is slightly strange to me. steak, gorgonzola & butter lettuce wrapped in rice/seaweed topped with onion rings and sauce. tastes very good together but takes a bit of getting used to. mango tango (red bell pepper, shrimp tempura & cilantro topped with mango) is good too except i forgot i don't like cilantro stems. =P staff is friendly. prices are reasonable. can't wait to come back here again to try out other rolls. =)

Ok, So I have an afternoon free with my significant other and we head over to Fish in a Bottle since all of my friends are raving about how good the food is here. We stop in for lunch to order some food. I ordered the Angus Teriyaki steak and my significant other order the Pork Cutlet served with mashed potatoes. The food was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. However, one thing I consistently saw was food being served on plates that were chipped. We also ordered the sushi sampler but once again, it was nothing to call home about. For real sushi, I would recommend a more authentic sushi restaurant.

after much contemplation, I decided I need to review Fish in a Bottle... one of those places I don't want to share with all because I don't want it to get so popular that it loses quality or gets harder to get a table. (i know bad, I'm a bad community yelper) It is true that the service is slow. You have to go expecting to wait for your food. Having said that, the food is VERY fresh and nicely prepared. Their Uni is EXCELLENT-very fresh and creamy. I usually don't get rolls because all the extra ingredients take away from the flavor of the seafood, but a roll that must be ordered each time we go (always forget the name), has scallops with cilantro topped with onion bits. Their sashimi is very good... thick, huge slices. I'm partial to yellowtail, but the other fish are also good. Lastly, their wasabi is one of the best things about this restaurant. They serve ground wasabi, none of that powder/paste, delish.

This is my favorite sushi place so far. Love the baked baby loser roll and I recommend getting the caterpillar, crunch roll, red dragon, and rainbow roll. They are all amazing! The other great thing about this place is that they have a full menu full of food other than sushi so you can get steak or whatever if you don't want sushi. Everything on this menu is really good too. The service is fast and great.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! It has a great ambience and everyone who works there is great (the owner is there all of the time and is the best!). It is moderately priced and the only complaint I have is wait time if you decide to go on the weekend during dinner. It is a small place and alot of big parties come so it is understandably hard for them to accomodate everyone in a short amount of time. The sushi is great and always fresh. Not too small...the rolls are great too. I would recommend the Baja or the Ya-ya. I try new rolls every time I go and all of them are good but those are my consistent favorites. If I had a choice I would eat here at least 3 times a week. I have been a sushi lover for years now and have never been so pleased with the food, service, atmosphere, and price.

Here we go with the over the top just a little too much creativity in a menu. food that I had was good, service was OK, and if you want to eat fairly quickly get there early. This place is samll and fills up quick. Try not to order any of the abnormal rolls, most of the hot plates are good, and deserts are OK. Overall it's an OK place

I came here on a Thursday night at 8: 30 PM and still had to wait. The owner Steve was the first person to greet us. Although the staff was courteous, they were not very attentive. My boyfriend had the blue mountain which he said was really good and he was glad he tried it. I had the vegan platter which was really plan, no flavor to it and a little hard to eat with the size of the veggie sushi. It came out to $15 per person. The ambiance was great and I would come back.

The first time I visited this restaurant, I would have given this place at least 4 stars. Finally a decent sushi restaurant and in Placentia?!? The fusion sushi rolls were excellent and different than any other sushi I've tried. I fell in love with their asparagus rolled filet mignon, so tender and tasty. I recommended this place to friends and spoke highly of this restaurant. BUT, then on a recent visit to this restaurant, I was totally disappointed. Bad service, my order was somehow "forgotten" and took ages to get. The waiter forgot as well because I had to bring it to his attention. THEN, when I received my sushi rolls, it was just a pile of mush, overly soaked with sauce and fell apart as I ate it. I might as well have had a bowl of rice and raw fish. As they have become more popular, it seems like quality has declined. Plus, a "must-have" for a sushi restaurant is to at least have Asian chefs prepping my rolls (Japanese sushi chefs even better). Sorry but the "help" behind the sushi bar sucks....sushi is an art and a skill!

Absolutely delicious. Personally, I don't classify myself as a sushi expert -- I eat the pretty basic things. One reason I really like this place is because I can bring people who don't like sushi and they can eat some "regular" food. It's a win-win situation.

    (5)
  • R.B. S.

The food here is amazing. Literally everything tastes awesomely awesome. I would give it 5 stars if I didn't end up spending $45 bucks on just myself when I go here. Sure I could get out of here for less than that, maybe just grab one roll or something. But you know how sushi is, you can eat it forever and you aren't really satisfied unless you really go for it... There's not way to go for it here without spending a heap.

  • Jerry Dean C.

if you have never been to a sushi place before then by all means eat here. The duck rolls, you get 3 of them and one of the rolls might have duck in it, maybe. The fish is frozen. Its frozen!! The uni tasted like metal and sh!t, but the best part was the ice tea and the waitress (she was hot). Don't eat here if you like food.

I'm not sure if it's the presentation of the food or the ambience but I really like this place. The salmon, albacore and the crunch roll are my favorite. The fish to rice proportion is perfect. I recommend this to those who want to try different rolls. They're filling and tasty. It's one of the best sushi joints in the area.

it kind of gets to me when people who arrive after us get seated before us. but this is what happened, and according to my bf's mom, this happens a lot here. nevertheless, the food was good. i ordered a ca roll and an avocado roll (the usual) and was pleased with the presentation and the taste. it was very clean looking. and i like that. the bathroom was clean, too, so i was happy. they can use a little work on their xmas decor, though. c'mon, it's only september!

I dig the fusion sushi thing....so plowing through an assortment of exotic rolls is a lot of fun and challenges the pallet. Lets be honest, a Philly Roll just isn't for everyone. It gets pricey for lunch...as most sushi spots do...so I generally only go there for business lunches.

Great food, great service, reasonable prices--what more could you want? This place is a fusion restaurant, which means that you'll find your typical Japanese rolls and also some more exotic rolls. The traditional rolls are very good, but some of the fusion rolls are hit an miss (ham and cheese with rice? Steak and seaweed?) Nice date location, but it can get pretty busy on weekends. Everyone is always pleasant and very friendly and attentive.

I'm a big japanese food lover and wanted to try a new sushi place. After reading the yelp reviews, decided to check it out. For the most part, this small place has some pretty good food. Like to try different types of rolls and they had some interesting ones. Four of us shared 9 different rolls (yeah, we like to eat) and enjoyed all of them. We really fell in love with the french kiss roll, crunchy dragon roll, and the soft shell crab roll. They had a roll (forgot the name) with a jalapeo and hot sauce on top and that had an interesting taste. This place is definitely for you if you like going to sushi bars. The rolls range from around $10. This place does get busy though. We got there at 7, said it was a 30 minute wait, didn't get seated till 7:45 and they didn't start making our rolls till 9. They apparently ran out of rice. That was the drawback. Other than that, definitely check it out.

Nice place. Attractive design, upscale feel. Good food - but not really any better than Ichiban in Brea, in my opinion - and it's pricier.
