Surprisingly busy for a Monday night. I had to wait about 15-20 minutes because of a large group. Totally worth the wait, though. The waitstaff were still very friendly even though they were crazy busy. As for the food, the other reviews of their salsa were right on - it's amazing. I'm a lighter portion orderer so I got a quesadilla with bbq chicken and rice and beans. Really, really good food all-around for a reasonable price. I may order to-go next time but I'll be back.

They have veggie enchiladas that are amazing!!!! (And many other vegetarian options), which score major points with me and other vegetarians I assume! A lot of mexican food is meat-based, which is delicious but since I no longer eat meat I'm glad I'm still able to enjoy it in a veggie-form, don't get me wrong... it's absolutely delicious. Price is awesome, as well as the service!!

"Is it always crowded?" Most always, yes. BUT, it's just because this is one of the best taqueria's in town! Yes, it's authentic, yes, they have delicious food, yes, they have the great margaritas! My favorite dish: the Macho Burrito. Great flavor on the grilled meat, perfect ratio of rice & beans, love the guac/sour cream/sauce on the top. Mmm! Service has time to be friendly even as they're super-busy. We've been to all of the Mexican fooderies in Petaluma, and, again, this is one of the best.

Consistently good mexican food, every time no matter how busy the restaurant is. Parking is tough on the weekends but the chile relleno and hot salsa is worth cruising around the block 5 times!

Best Mexican food in town! Cheese enchiladas, chips and salsa are my favorite.

Dam good food, great prices. This place always has people in here and at times it is busy, busy, busy so be warned there may be a wait but a wait well worth it.

great family run authentic mexican, always busy but the wait is never too long and the staff is friendly . The super burrito is my favorite but any combo is really good, drinks are also really good and my fiance and the kids love it to!

Another good find thanks to Yelp and its reviewers. We try to patronize as many of the Mexican restaurants in Sonoma County as possible, and this was our first visit here. The first thing that spoke well of this establishment was noticed upon our arrival. It was packed! There was a decent waiting list to get in. But of course, it was a Saturday night, and we hadn't bothered to make reservations, so keep that in mind if you pick a peak time to visit. The staff was all very friendly and helpful despite the rush traffic in there. Once seated we were quickly served and orders taken. I was thinking because of the massive amount of people being served that it would take forever for our food to arrive, but no, our orders were up and piping hot quickly. Drinks never emptied, chips always full. The food was all very fresh and well prepared, and the complement of the variety of salsas from the salsa bar always earns a big thumbs up from me. To top it off, it was all very reasonably priced for the large, and delicious, portions. We would come back here again, but I'll be sure to note the time and maybe make a reservation.

This is usually the only Mexican Restaurant I'll go to. The service is fast, you will get your food very quickly. The salsa bar is delicious and the chips are usually very fresh. They Burrito H is my favorite, since I'm a vegetarian. This location is my favorite, out of all their others.

HANDS DOWN, THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT EVER! Beyond excellent! My parents used to take me here when I was little and 20 years later, I'm still coming. Every week when Friday rolls around, my fiance and I come down for dinner. We sit at the bar, have Chewy make us the best margaritas ever & watch whatever game they have on. My fiance always orders a BBQ chicken burrito (best chicken ever) with a chile relleno in it... he swears by that burrito! I love everything here, so I'm always switching it up. I love the cheese enchiladas, carnitas nachos, shredded beef tacos.. everything! There's always a line out the door, but it's well worth the wait!!!

Happy and Holy Guacamole! Wow! Whew-Wee! Five star visit alllllllllllllll the way, people! Five Star Everything! A special happy shout out to Yelpers who reviewed this fine establishment. Yup- due to the powers of Yelp, that's how the handsome man and I decided upon visiting this place for our few hour field trip to Petaluma. Trust me...many happy Petaluma reviews to come. * * * There are two Mi Pueblo locations * * * This particular location has a kick-butt ambiance. Simply put...not fancy, yet FUN!!! I almost burst into Mexican song...I was feeling the spirit. Salsa and chips are served and refilled as needed...good stuff. Salsa has an awesome kick to it. The handsome man ordered a "Macho Chimichanga." Can't help it...sing along "Macho, Macho, Man. He likes to be a Macho Man." My handsome macho man savored every bite of that gigantic macho chimichanga. It was served with large portions of rice and refried beans. I had a super steak burrito, minus holy-guacamole. I don't do guac. Wow! Delish! Huge burrito packed with fresh foods; steak, rice, beans and sour cream. There was a sauce poured atop of the super duper burrito which added a little pizazz. Service was pretty good considering the place was happily buzzing with many customers. Wait for entrees was a smidgen long; 25 minutes, yet the place was very busy. And we were content munching on chips. No doubt the place does wonderfully...take out orders were steady. Customers were beaming with food joy. We don't do booze, yet noticed they served mucho margaritas. Seems like had quite an extensive drinks list. Siddown. Sit Down. Cost for the table service outta-this-world food... a smidgen over $16.00. For my friend Raider... As per other reviews, it sounds like they have great fish tacos! :D

Mi Pueblo has only gotten better in the two years since I posted my first review. They seem to have recently re-paved their parking lot, which is great, and even though minor changes have come throughout the years, several important things haven't changed: their amazing food and incredibly hospitable and hard working staff! These aspects of the Taqueria have stayed consistently positive. Additionally, their salsa bar is still delicious, the margaritas still huge and the food overall is consistently flavorful and really generously portioned. Keep up the awesome work Mi Pueblo staff and owners!

  • Doron A.

Flat out - the bomb! Warm, crispy fresh chips, and an incredible salsa bar get you going right. Their carnitas taquitos are ridiculously good, and their chimichanga is off the hook. Everything here is delicious, the people are super nice and friendly, and they have a full bar where they make killer margaritas! We drive out of our way to eat here all the time. Dollar for taste, its my favorite Sonoma County restaurant. Period. Seriously!

    (5)
  • Kelly M.

We drive there at least once a month. There may be a 5-10 minute wait, but it's worth it. Fresh, fresh, fresh! The service is friendly and accommodating. The margaritas are wonderful! My favorite, the Seafood Quesadilla is like Heaven. Mr. Wicked Chef gets two or three different entrees, and is working his way through the menu. We love it!

Try the birria. Seriously, outside of East LA or my friend's abuella's house, this is the best birria I have had. Birria is essentially spicy goat stew . . . and in the hands of a caring cook, can be turned into a most tender, flavorful, and non-gamey meat. I'm a fan of gamey -- but even my friends the chunks that they happened to snag from me. Slow cooked all day, with the bones and all the good stuff in, the broth is the best part . . . it leaves that characteristic stickiness on your lips as you savor morsel after morsel, Portions were plentiful (my friends had the carnitas, which they enjoyed), and the service attentive. Indeed, from the outside, it does look like every other Mexican restaurant that you might pass on the street. With the neon Corona sign in the window and a special for margaritas. And if that's what draws you in, then great. Just stay for the birria.

  • Brittney R.

Quickly...service was good considering it was crowded. However, I think I left dehydrated due to the amount of salt in my meal. (I say combination of store bought verde salsa and too much salt added.) Oh...and there were ants at the table...really???

this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Sonoma county. We prefer their first location on Petaluma Blvd N. The blended margarita is perfect. the salsa bar ranges from very mild to quite hot. their food is fresh, quite tasty, and service is attentive, friendly, and lively. today i had their prawns wrapped in bacon. yummo. came with a creamy chipotle dipping sauce that by itself was so good that i was licking it off my fingers, not wanting to waste any of it. cost versus value: this restaurant gets an A+.

  • Trace T.

I've had better Mex food, but this is the best in Petaluma. The main problem I have is that in one can understand my order; granted its a specialized order but for some reason the language barrier is too strong or me to ever get my order right. I walk them through the list of what I want on my burrito and in what proportions and the look at me quizzically every time. Seriously; do I need to bring Google Translate into the ordering process or perhaps walk in with a preprinted Google translated order they can hand to the cook. If I attempt that I'm likely to end up with "extras" in my burrito. Let's just say that if I could actually get my order right I'd be there at least once per week or more.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Everytime that I come here I try my best to try something new, and everytime, no matter what it is the food is awesome. My personal favs are the padre macho burrito (steak, chicken, or al pastor), the tacos (piled high with tons of meat), the nachos (carne asada), the tamales, and bañuelos for dessert! If you like chicken, you can choose between shredded or grilled; I prefer the grilled. The prices are very reasonable. The only draw back is that this place is very popular. So it's always crowded andbyou may have to wait a bit at peak times, but it's worth it.

    (5)
  • Kim D.

Can't go wrong with amazing Mexican food at great prices, this place was so popular they opened a second one done the street! They have every food combo you could ask for with very fresh ingredients, the staff is always consistent and friendly, they never short change you on anything you order. You have to go here!

    (5)
  • Martín P.

OK food and big portions for the price, but the place was way too crowded and boisterous drunks at the bar made for a lousy dining experience.

  • Laura S.

This is possibly the best Mexican food I have ever had. It is consist ant, fresh, affordable, and comes with a smile. The service is great too. Chewy, the bar tender pours a great margarita and sitting at the bar is great for watching him in action. every single thing I have had is amazing. We go there weekly and often order something new as an appetizer. We have yet to find something we would not have again. Mi pueblo, I love you!

  • David B.

Mi Pueblo is by far my favorite restaurant. Sometimes it's crazy busy, but that's just because it's so good. The burritos are delicious, so are the nachos and quesadillas. I usually get a super burrito with BBQ chicken, black beans, wheat tortilla, and mole sauce. It's pretty much heaven for $7 and I always have half left. They have takeout too if you're in a hurry. David, the owner, is really nice and remembers all the regulars names and always makes a point to say hi. I wouldn't willingly go anywhere else for Mexican food.

    (5)
  • R G.

I've been here a few times and the food isn't very good. The chips are cold, thick and actually too greasy. The beans are runny because they probably don't take the extra 5 seconds to strain the water out. They don't have a lunch menu, just dinner prices and its too expensive for what you get. If all you want is a tortilla and cheese (quesadilla) its at least 6 bucks. Mexican food is suppose to be cheap.

  • Sean P.

This is by far and above the best mexican food in Petaluma, maybe in the county. I highly recommend trying this place. I've been eating here for years. Don't be surprised if you can't find a parking spot. (it's always packed) and don't be scared if you have to wait a minute or two for a table. And definitely don't be surprised when you are eating the best burrito you've ever had. I suggest that you order the Pollo Asada (it's the bomb diggity) but everything I mean EVERYTHING is scrumptious. A can't miss when in Petaluma. Thanks David for keeping it alive for so long now.

    (5)
  • Kimberly K.

This place is great. The chips and salsa are always fresh, the tacos are killer (true baja) and the chimichanga will conquer any appetite. An order of ceviche and a michelada will kill any hangover. Our whole family can eat out for under $20.00 here. I hope it never changes!

  • Violette M.

I live in the neighborhood, and this food is GOOD. I am from San Diego, and I have eaten a lot of mexican food to compare to and be disappointed by in comparison... But, the staff seems to like to pack the place as full as possible with waiting patrons rather than give out reservations. Why not give a realistic time to come back by at least? They tell you 20 minutes, which means 40, and it's very unpleasant to wait crammed into their tiny entryway and walkways while you wait at dinnertime. Too cold to wait outside most of the year. Even though I like the food here more, sometimes we go across town to another restaurant (La Azteca) for some good burritos and chill service...

I wanted to take a minute and write a highly positive review for Mi Pueblo restaurant in Petaluma. I've been enjoying the food at Mi Pueblo for well over 10 years and am the better man for it. The owner and the staff will do everything in their power to make certain your meal is delicious and memorable. As with all successful busy restaurants there are moments of chaos and mistakes. The key here is to remember to let your service person or the owner know what's happening so they can fix it. If you are shy about bringing up a problem with a meal please step up and left the owner know how about the issue right then and there so he has the opportunity to correct it! An owner or a chef would much rather replace your meal, fix what was wrong or return your money rather than leave their restaurant dissatisfied. By the way, remember to ask for their homemade tortillas. I am grateful for the great food and great service at Mi Pueblo.

I love everything about this restaurant! The lively, friendly atmosphere, delicious food and drinks and great prices. The parking lot is often packed and the wait staff can be somewhat curt, but they're so busy it's understandable, and everything else makes up for it.

I used to live in this area and would order so much that when I called I didn't even have to say my name or what I wanted (unless I varied from the usual) when doing a phone order. The place to be amoung the BEST Mexican food in Norcal. Dinner time is superbusy and packed (apparently everybody is in on the secret) and parking is very limited and a hassle. But it's worth it! David the owner is a doll (but again what girl doesn't love a guy that never fails to tell her how beautiful she always looks-even when she obviously doesn't :P) I always get pastor tacos...my favorite dish but everything else from their burritos to carne asada is deliciously authentic and tasty. I miss this place sooo BAD!!! I have yet to find a place of similar quality in OC (any recommendations?? anybody?) Pros: great food, lots of flavor and very authentic Cons: parking, service and paying for your bill can be slow I will admit that many people I know have stopped going because the food isn't as good as it used to be....like I said, I stick to tacos so might not be the best reviewer to listen too...

Sigh. Face it folks, Petaluma SUCKS when it comes to Mexican food. I'd like to think that growing up in East San Jose and not only patronizing places like Salsa, Super Taqueria, El Pollo Loco, etc., mucho taco trucks and the countless latino families homes I grew up with, I have a pretty good grasp of what's at least good.....even for a white-boy. So I listen to my fellow yelpers and other people I know who were raving about Mi Pueblo on the boulevard and gave it a shot. Two things I look for: #1 FRESH: the beans, the rice, the produce and the sauces and #2: Quality of MEAT and flavor (very important). I ordered take-out (per suggestion- and by the way, the phone was a busy signal for a good five to ten minutes...excitement mounting..place must be good!) and got the soft barbecued chicken tacos and a carne asada burrito. Now look: The meat in any dish needs to stand out on it's own. It should be flavorful (either by cut, spices or marinade), meaning, you would want to order just a big plate of meat and eat it on it's own. You accomplish this, and I will always come back and move on to other menu items (carnitas, etc.). Neither the chicken or the carne asada impressed me. Both were dry, with the carne having little flavor. The super burrito overall was very dry. The chicken tacos were marinaded with cilantro and onion on top. I only tried the chicken itself, not the whole taco. While the prices are great (3 soft corn tacos and a super burrito+big bag of chips= $15), food is very average. I give up. From now on (and I hate to say this) I will just stick to Chipotle (for the meats and freshness) or even Baja Fresh (chicken tacos with cilantro and onion)... These other places need to stop making meat in bulk, chopping it up and letting it sit to dry out or get skunky. I think "Authentic" to most people means you get a side of runny refried beans and spanish rice with your meal. If you want the gimmick of a 5 pound mucho macho burrito (or whatever it is), getting drunk on margaritas and having cheap accessible very average food, this place is fine. It is definitely better in food quality than it's sister site over in Novato (yuck). Maybe I should just drive to the Mission in SF?

Without a doubt the best Mexican in town. A regular staple in my diet. The burritos are bomb and the Fajitas are tremendous. The service is always friendly and speedy. Tip=chile Verde.

The is a hidden gem. Excellent burritos here. My husband and I ordered the Burrito that had double fillings, and it was HUGE!! We split it and only conquered half. And we eat a lot!! Very authentic Mexican food. Will go back when we are in town!!!

My wife, her co-worker, & I went to dinner here last night upon recommendations from Yelp reviewers. I was really looking forward to the Arrachera steak that some had raved about. When we arrived the parking lot was pretty full for a Tuesday night, & that was a good sign. The service was great. We had our 1-year old w/us & the waitress took really good care of him too. The chips were light, crunchy, & just lightly salted. The pico de gallo salsa was really fresh & the hotter salsa was quite good. The entrees were on the salty side. The Arrachera steak wasn't much to rave about. It seemed to have been marinated w/just salt & pepper. My wife's colleague ordered the same & wasn't impressed either. My wife ordered the mole chicken enchilada combination w/the carnitas tamale which was good. Overall, the food was good & the service was great. To me I would rate 3.5 stars but the service round the score up to 4.

I gave Mi Pueblo 5 stars for the simple reason that its all I can give it, but it deserves 7or 8 stars. The menu is awesome. The place is clean, the staff is friendly. The FOOD is to die for, cooked perfectly and with such great flavor. The only problem for me is that it is an hour and a half away from home, but that wont stop me! Its worth every minute of the drive. We had the Macho Burrito and Mi Pueblo enchiladas. It was excellent. But, I think my favorite is their chips and salsa; fresh and spicy!

MMMMMMM, Verde Carnitas Macho Burrito, Mariachi Band playing My Way and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Yummy Tamarindo Drinks. Salsa is tasty, Wait Staff appears more than happy to allow you to sit at te table and keep talking. Made me really happy since I was having dinner with an old friend I hadn't seen in a long while. Will go back next time in Petaluma

We have eaten at Mi Pueblo in Petaluma (both locations) and loved the food there, and so we were excited to try the new location in Rohnert Park. We were seriously disappointed. The "Happy Hour" sign was outside and when we asked about the times, the hostess confirmed we had arrived on time, but when we went to order a margarita our server said Happy Hour was only during the week days (this was a Saturday night). The guacamole, rice and beans were tasteless. The $8 Cesear salad was ridiculously small on a small plate. The chicken fajitas tasted like they had just poured enchilada sauce all over it, and despite the larger portion, the vegetables were way over cooked. We ate the salad and less than 10% of the fajitas and didn't take the remainder home. The waitress was unfriendly and didn't check back with us once until we were done, and the restaurant was not full. We spoke with the manager and told him of our disappointment and all he did was defend the fact that the same cook from the other location was in the kitchen. He offered no apology nor did he offer to replace our meal with something else. Unfortunately we will not go back to this location again. With the economy as it is, our dining out money will be spent at places that offer quality food and service.

Excellent, YUMMY!! Fresh, fabulous, and delicious. I have been patronizing Mi Pueblo since 1998. Have used them for company events catering, and my own personal dinner and lunch kitchen. I love the pastor, chicken, shrimp, and then there's the service. David (the owner) treats everyone like family, and the staff is consistent from year to year, they're always friendly, fast, and helpful. If you have special requests, or prefer exclusions on your dish, done, no questions. The Salsa Bar is AMAZING!!! Everything is so fresh. They don't freeze anything: meats, vegetables, or tortillas, and you can taste it. Seriously, what's not to love?

We arrived at 6:30 on a Sunday night and it was standing room only. Many people were ordering take-out and if I lived there I would definitely suggest that. We were quoted 20 minutes for a table and were seated in about that. Our table wobbled so badly that we literally took sugar packets and put them under the leg but we love good food so were willing to overlook the wobble. There was also a mariachi duo that walked around singing to various tables. They were actually pretty good. The chips and salsa were served right away with a choice of mild and spicy. We then ordered two large top shelf margaritas for $9.75 each and though the waitress mixed up which glass got the salt, they were very tasty and strong. I ordered the carnitas burrito with mole' ($6.95) and I think I sighed with pleasure with every bite. I've never had carnitas that was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was wonderful...and twice the size of a burrito anywhere else. I didn't even finish half of it though I tried because it was so f-ing good. There's also a larger burrito for $11.95 and I can't imagine how big that thing would be because mine was huge already. My husband had the combination plate with two carne' asada tacos and a shrimp taco. We were charged extra for the shrimp even though the menu says to choose your meat, but whatever. All of them were good but they did not come close to the carnitas. In the end it cost us $49.00 with tip for two huge meals, all you can eat chips and salsa, and two top shelf margaritas. It's not upscale dining but we didn't expect that. We left stuffed and satisfied, and we will definitely go back if we're ever in that area again.

We both had the chicken enchilada with guacamole beans & rice and it was very good. The salsa had a good taste and a nice bite. The chips were fresh. The meal arrived promptly, but after that our waitress seemed to have forgoten about us until time to pay.

Totally unremarkable. Totally. They boast having handmade tortillas but I ordered a hard shell taco and it looked and tasted like an Ortega premade shell. The only thing that was good was the bbq chicken filling. They make chili relleno's with fresh chili's but covered it in a really bad sauce. I'm new to the area and really was craving Mexican food....I will not go back. I must mention that although the food was not good, the wait staff was upbeat and friendly.

The carnitas is among the best I've had. Service was good even when the place was packed. Chips and salsa were great. Always enjoy coming here, leave very satisfied. Best in town, best around.

no taqueria will ever compare to my beloved mi pueb. it is really the atmosphere that does it for me. but the food.. oohh the food. here's my favorite part: when you're eating all those chips and salsa.. and your mouth starts to feel a little hot. not temperature hot, but spicy hot. and then your meal shows up. and you KNOW you ordered a combo meal to get those rice and beans. and then you take your first bite of the piping hot beans. and the spicy hot and the temperature hot mix and at first it's like a flaming firework on your tongue, and then moments later they counteract each other and you can start eating your meal. nothing compares to that.

Delicioso! I don't understand the negative reviews, unless people are really bothered by it being packed. It does need more parking and more space. But it's packed because it's yummy! Very authentic Mexican food- the real deal. Don't expect Tex Mex. Although, I can't vouch for any meat besides the pollo asado. It's delicious so I get it in every dish. Also very good mole.

This place, to my knowledge, is the best Mexican in the area. Get the carnitas!!! My hubby always get's a carnitas burrito and I get 3 carnitas tacos. Very crispy and yummy. They are a little slow with to go orders (due to popularity), but that's always a good sign. This is our fav for mexican.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Petaluma. Great lunch spot, though parking is difficult in the small lot. Must have patience! I keep ordering the same favorites over and over. The chile relleno burrito is tasty and cheap - about $8 now. The shredded chicken nachos is a meal all by itself. They serve chillaquiles here too (kinda soggy tortillas with green sauce and queso) - something I have looked for in the Bay Area since the days I lived closer to the border. They serve up fresh tortillas on Saturdays. Great family spot. Grab a to-go menu and order by phone. Portion sizes are large.

This is the best mexican food! The fish taco's and burrito's are the bomb, and the sauce that comes on the burrito is unbelievable! And BTW very inexpensive. If you go there you must try the fish taco, but everything their is bomb!

Well, I have been eating dinner at Mi Pueblo Taqueria for about six years. Maybe once every week or two. I had never gotten sick there and the food was always good. The owner and the waitresses are always friendly and your order gets to your table fairly fast .The margaritas are very strong and well worth the price. Having said that, about 10 months ago a party of four of us had dinner there and the next day the three people I was with complained of being sick. Mostly diarrhea including myself. So we decided not to go to dinner there anymore. But last night I was craving Mexican food. I decided that maybe that was just one bad nights dinner food at Mi Pueblo. So I decided to take to other people to dinner last night we all ordered different dishes of food and we did not have alcohol with our meals. And once again early this morning I was very very sick. and then I got a call from one of the person's that had dinner with us last night and that person was very sick early in the morning also. So I'm sorry to say I won't be going back to Mi Pueblo. I cannot understand why a bunch of us have gotten food poisoning their in the last year, and no one else has written on here about getting food poisoning from this restaurant. Considering the restaurant is always crowded with people and a lot of returning customers for dinner. .

Very good Carne Asada Burrito. Like the onion sauce (?) they put over the burrito. Great Salsa. Lots of people for lunch, but i was greated with quick, friendly service.

This was my first and only visit to Taqueria Mi Pueblo, as I was passing through on vacation. This place ROCKS. I would say its as close to eating south on the border as you can get in Cali. Chips and Salsa were free like most places, but unlike most places, the Salsa was Damn Good! it had some heat, not watered down for us americans. I got a burrito, it was HUGE. I really wished that I could have finished it, but it was just too big. my wife got the Chimichangas and she loved them as well. If you are just traveling through, or you live in the area, this place is special.

Best Mexican food in town. AWESOMELY huge burritos and great yummy green salsa. I am in love with the green salsa. GREAT place and even bigger plus because in Ptown you get coupons for free burritios in the mail! Only reason I give it 4 stars is because it can get a little crowded at dinner time, but it's not their fault. Best advice: call in your order. There's a Mi Pueblo in Novato too. Cheap, great, tasty, excellent Mexican food!

BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER!!! NEED I SAY MORE??? In case these words do not convince you to come, you can ask the crowds of people that are here every night. Whether you come for its awesome food, the salsa bar, their assortment of margaritas, the homemade tortillas, the decor, or Senor Juan Carlos Plata, you will not be disappointed. The owner, David, is very friendly and will make you feel at home. VIVA MI PUEBLO!!!

The best tasting Mexican food in Petaluma and the best service for take-out. Everyone is always friendly and goes out of their way to ensure "we are happy" we our selection.

Is there fancier yea is there tastier uh... maybe but for the bang for the buck there is none better! If you want to find a great food at a fair price just ask a teenager! I have several of those around and they all agree this is the place to be! Good food at a fair price, and don't tell the kids but they make a stiff drink too one margarita and I was feeling it :)

This place is great. The service is wonderful and the food is delicious. We love the salsa. My fiancee and I also really like the atmosphere and the place is always packed. Excellent prices and friendly service.

My favorite Mexican in Petaluma now that La Azteca has new owners. In all fairness I still haven't been to Lolita's although I've heard really good things about it. Dave, the owner I think, is a very friendly guy and the food is always good. My only complaint is that parking can be tough some times but you can usually find a spot.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Petaluma. I would come here all the time before I moved. The pollo a la plancha is GREAT! Horchata is great too. I love me some mi pueblo.

I'm always amazed at how people judge a mexican resturaunt on their Burritos. Explore that Mi Pueblo menu a little more! The Alambre, Cancun, Camarones Mi Pueblo, Chilie Verde, their combos are great too. The "Camarones Mi pueblo" is by far my favorite though. I compare everything now to it.

Best Mexican in Petaluma, possibly Best Mexican in the North Bay. There is something about this place. Twice now we've taken friends and family from San Francisco there, and then they come back to Petaluma and eat there again. They don't visit us, they just come up to Petaluma and eat at Mi Pueblo again. My son eats there more than he eats at home. The portions are huge and the prices couldn't get much lower...how does David make money there? The place is always packed, it's the real thing. It's not fancy and it might not be health food, but it is certainly addictive. I travel around the US for my living, and I find myself daydreaming about Mi Pueblo wherever I am. Sick, yes? Best burrito anywhere. Ever.

This is my favorite place for a burrito! I love the macho, which I can never finish and get at least 2 meals out of, I also love the super nachos...yumm! I've been to both Petaluma and Novato locations, and the food just seems to taste even better at the Petaluma one-Novato is still great but not quite the same.

I totally agree with Sabrino O....people seemed to really be annoyed by the wait.....I'm not sure how you can knock a place for that? Anyway....I have come here often and have settled into my comfort zone in getting the Macho Burrito. I love this damned burrito, it is simply the best burrito I have ever had.......THE BEST. It is huge and if for whatever reason it isn't big enough for you go for the Padre Macho and I defy you to eat it all. Not only is it huge but the flavors are awesome, so damn good. I always get Chile Verde and to date I have never had a piece of fat (pretty common in Chile Verde and totally ruins it for me). Chips are good and they have a great selection of salsas.

So I've been to Cotija's, Sonoma Taco Shop, Velasco's, and now Mi Pueblo in Petaluma. Maybe it was all the hype, but I was not impressed by Mi Pueblo. I still think Velasco's is better. The only reason I gave it two stars was the great friendly service and fun atmosphere. The food sucks. And the hour long wait sucks too. They put this weird gooey flavorless sauce on the burritos and the salsa isn't very spicy. It is hard to make a good vegetarian burrito, but this was probably the most boring bland burrito I've ever had. I miss Taqueria Guadalajara in Davis... Although I have a few more places to try in Petaluma - Los Potrillos, Chunky's, and I think there's a new place where Sonoma Taco shop used to be, so Petaluma Mexican review to be continued...

  • Natalye R.

I was surprised by this place. Taqueria quality and prices with a sit-down component. I understand why people rave about this place because it's some of the better Mexican food I've found in town. Yet, that's not saying much. It lacks something that I can't quite figure out, that crave factor.

This place is soooo yummy!!!!! Informal, extremely friendly service, and delicious food...I go here once or twice a week and always have a great experience...My favorite things here are Milanesa de res (deliciously breaded steak), huarache de carnitas (on the weekends), tacos (lengua, carne asada and carnitas), and tilapia frita. Also on the weekends they have fresh off the grill corn tortillas they make on the premises and they are divine with Mi Pueblo's guacamole...Yummy!!! Also, the owner, David, and all of his staff are incredibly friendly and they really cater to one's special requests. It's nice to see a local business grow and go out of its way to serve their clientele...I highly recommend this place!!!!!

Fresh chips, salsa, tasty margaritas! I LOVE their margaritas! They have a HUGE selection of meals whether you like meat or are a vegetarian! I love their wet burritos and I love the crab enchiladas, too! The servers are always nice and attentive and David and Chuy are great, too! Whether you are a a party of 1, 2 or 5, you will leave here full and happy! Very affordable, too!

I feel like a weirdo because I don't like this place, and it seems like everyone else is nuts about it -- Taqueria Mi Pueble is always packed to the seams. I like the salsa bar, but the food is mediocre (I prefer Cotija, which is grungier, but the food is much better). Not impressed by the service here, either. My experience is that on busy nights (which is almost every night) the servers can easily forget about you (which for me has meant no water refills, not enough napkins and waiting forever for the check). I've also had the owner ignore me for a very long time when I was waiting up front to pay my bill. There are better Mexican restaurants in Petaluma.

Been a fan of the Novato location. The Petaluma location is HUGE with two dining rooms. It was jammed with people waiting for take-out at 1:30PM and there were 15+ tables filled 1-1/2 hours after lunch time, so this is one popular place! Food was very good. much like Novato, however the grilled chicken taco was light on the pollo (vs. hefty in Novato) but my friends Mole burrito was the size of a hummer and she loved it. Salsa bar was very good but the same salsas I LOVE in Novato seemed watered down in Petaluma, especially the creamy, mystery orange-red salsa. Service was a bit better that in Novato, which is a plus. In my tour of Petaluma taco joints, I like the flavors here but the portion and service of Azteca...so far...

Good food, clean place, friendly staff. My wife and I had some soft tacos - Al pastor - marinated pork, spicy and very nicely done Chorizo - Mexican sausage, the cook did a great job, some crisp bits and still moist! Pollo Asado - great! The chicken wasn't dry, grilled nicely. We came in seeing the sign saying homemade tortillas. Excellent. Best part is their outdoor patio accomodates dogs, she loved the fresh fried tortila chips. Both the fresh salsa and the hotter salsa were very fresh tasting. Great!

Not very good quality ingredients nor preparation. Resulting in ho-hum tacos, burritos, enchiladas. This is a carbo-load that you may regret later. Petaluma is loaded with mediocre, cheap mexican restaurants. This is one of them...

My husband and I went here after reading good reviews about this place. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was packed. Seems like a good sign, right? Well right off the bat we have a 20 minute wait...which is never good with a one year old. The "waiting area" is tiny. Atleast 10 people cramped together in this tiny space, and I felt like I was standing over the people eating at the tables that are situated right by the door. So when we finally get called, we are seated near the back, and it took a good 10-15min for a waiter to come over and get our drink order. At that point we ended up just ordering cus we had so much time. My husband got a burrito and I got an enchilada. Took another long while for our food to get there, and once it did the meat in my husbands burrito was burnt crispy black. He picked around all those pieces and pushed it to the side to show the waitress. Another waitress came to clear our table and he told her about the burrito and showed her all the burnt meat and she said she would tell our waitress and get it removed. Well sure enough we got a bill and were charged for everything. My husband and I were just so fed up with that place we didnt even have time to argue and search for our waitress. Went up to the front, made our way thru the zoo of people still in the front, paid and left. Chips and Salsa werent great. We will never return.

Great chips and salsa and the tamales are really good. The cheese enchillada was good although I almost choked it had so much cheese in it. The beans and rice are good too. The taco salad was the best my friend had ever had-according to him. I could easily eat here at least once a week. Comfort food.

I absolutely LOVE Mexican food and Mi Pueblo is one of my favorite places (and coming from San Diego, I've had my fair share of Mexican food). Their menu has a great variety and it is inexpensive. Their margaritas are great, too! Enchiladas Mi Pueblo are my absolutely favorite. I go here way too often! My only complaint is that when we make reservations we never seem to be seated on time, which is annoying.

Mi Pueblo is hands down the best mexican food restaurant in Petaluma. I have tried them all, and nothing can compare. This place is always packed for a reason. The food is great, and the service is attentive and fast. Make sure you say hi to David, and if your lucky the mariachi man, Senor Juan Carlos Plata!

After eating nearly weekly for the past seven or so years here, my family has also chosen to break up with Mi Pueblo Taqueria. I have to agree with the post by Emily V. The service and food have really gone downhill since they opened their restaurant in Cotati. It now takes far too long to get service even AFTER one is seated, far too long to get the food after one is ordered and no one ever comes back to check to see if things are ok, drinks need refilling or someone would care to order another beer. Currently seeking another Mexican restaurant in Petaluma. Not thrilled with any of the other sit down places, but at least I don't have to wait forever for subpar food. I don't know what happened, maybe David is just spread too thin but things have changed. We miss the old days...

After living in Petaluma for 4 years and searching for the best mexican food... i believe I may have finally found it. on the 4 occasions i have been here there is a packed restaurant with people lining up out the door. Yet, i have never waited more than 5minutes for a table (go figure?). The staff is friendly and on the ball. Their food is fantastic. i could not believe how great the shrimp were that my friend had. As if that wasn't great enough, their margaritas are pretty good too. Oh yeah, and the kicker, their prices are very reasonable. I am so relieved to have finally found a decent mexican restaurant in Petaluma.

This place has the best margaritas and I alway get 2 shredded chicken tacos. I don't get the rice or beans, so they're only $5.00 and I'm always full anyway because of the chips. Service is great, too! This is my favorite local place.

I thought the food was ok. The surly service and tequila presentation kinda ruined it for me. I asked for a double Don Julio Blanco on the rocks, got it in two shot glasses. No biggie. When it was brought back, it was in a small rocks glass with a half dozen ice cubes. The server seemed like she would have rather have been doing something, anything, other than waiting tables.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Sonoma County. I love everything here. The Abondigos soup is great. I love any of the chicken dishes. The fish tacos are yummy. I have tried every Mexican Restaurant in Sonoma County and this is hands down my favorite. I live in Santa Rosa and cant find Mexican as good anywhere.

Why don't I go to Mi Pueblo more often? These guys, and their partners in Novato, have it down. They make great burritos in a variety of sizes, including the Abuelo Macho, which is not to be messed with unless you have a real appetite. Their chips are good and the have one of the best salsa bars north of Chiuaua. The Mexican guys that work with us prefer Mi Pueblo to Velasco for what it's worth.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
