A small, family-owned restaurant with very friendly atmosphere. The owner runs and serves food herself. No part-timers so to me it felt very personal and I appreciated that very much. I have been to Thai restaurants all over the U.S. and I have to say this place is not bad at all given only a few people are running it. The ingredients are difficult to acquire so I wouldn't complain about some dish lacking certain taste as long as my taste buds, stomach, and wallet are happy. I ordered spicy noodle (medium Thai spicy level was perfect for me) and sticky rice with mango. Paid less than $20 in the end. Sticky rice was warm and soft just like how it's supposed to be. Both the owner and the chef are Thais so trust me, they know what Thai food supposed to taste like. It's almost like having my mom cook for me at home. I'm definitely going back for papaya salad and tom yum noodle before I leave Pasadena! Ps. Don't expect anything epic. Same goes for other Thai restaurants in this country. Nothing is more epic than Thai food on the streets in Bangkok.

Sadly disappointed with our delivery. We got 2 apps and 2 entrees; you'd think with $35 worth of delivery they could afford to include rice! Cream cheese wontons were the highlight, but the rest was bland and the spice levels were way off from what we'd requested (medium all the way, but ranged from super mouth burning beef with basil to bland as can be pad Thai). Also, pad Thai was lacking peanuts - my favorite part! All in all, won't be returning to this one.

Going to a far off thai restaurant was a usual thing to do when we had a pad thai craving, but now that we know that theres an affordable AND tasty thai place around the corner that ritual may expire. With its dish set with artistically-placed culinary delights in its lunch special, Tipparos is a must try. The whole place has a feel of a living room, so the environment gets a plus.

I just enjoyed the chicken larb with chicken and shrimp steamed won tons. Delicious delicious! I will continue to try other items on the menu.

A tiny Thai restaurant in Pasadena. Not much seating, so I wouldn't bring a group. Service is friendly, parking easy, and free Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, the food is truly weak. Usually Thai food can be the spiciest food, but everything we had was disappointingly bland. Also, portions are very small. I ate two entrees. The chicken sate appetizer was good (but small). The problem was the peanut dipping sauce. It was as thick as real peanut butter, so it wouldn't really stick to the chicken skewers. Four main dishes - Drunken Noodles with chicken. They tasted like boiled noodles with no sauce. I was shocked at how bland a supposedly spicy dish was. Worst I've ever had. The yellow curry was like nothing I ever had. It was totally bland and tasteless. It also lacked the creaminess you get at all other places (probably due to coconut milk, I would assume). Not good. The Kung Pao chicken was okay but not kung pao. So many vegetables it tasted more like peas than anything else. Still edible. The hot basil was all right but also bland. I paid extra to get shrimp added to the chicken, and got 3 whole shrimp. Most places suck at this, but I wish they'd charge more and add a good amount of shrimp. Won't be back. Sorry.

I have been here before for the lunch special I have tried Thai BBQ chicken and Tofu with basil those are my favorite. Oh and you have to try pad see ew (beef) and a side of chile. The food the tasty. It's a nice place to go to for lunch.

Was pleasantly surprised, had the chicken coconut soup and had lots of chicken and mushroom and great lemon grass flavor. For my main dish I went with the trout with apple sauce (don't think is your baby food type of Apple cause) it was fresh green apple and red onion julianed on top of a perfect fried trout. Sauce was sweet and tangy. Took advantage of check in special for free Thai ice tea. Will come back fosho

Over priced and totally not worth it at all. I ordered Tofu Mint Leaves. Paid almost 10 dollars and comes with no rice. The vegetables were over cooked and tasteless. It looked like I was eating fajitas with jello tofu, like they barely warmed up the tofu. Terrible food. If it wasn't because I paid so much for it, I would have tossed it.

The red curry is excellent, get a side of rice and you are set. We also got a side of steamed vegetables and a side of peanut sauce to go with it, very basic and light. Asparagus and shrimp is a nice light dish, also get rice. Overall we were nicely satisfied with the food and the service. We will be back.

We have ordered food from here several times but it is never disappoint me! Just be mindful if you order online that if you say spicy you are prepared for the heat! I definitely would recommend this if you were going to have friends over and don't want to go out they typically deliver in about 45 minutes and the food is always hot and taste great!

Tipparos is our #2 neighborhood Thai restaurant. You can dine in but they also do a bustling take-out/delivery business if you don't even feel like leaving your house. For appetizers, we've had success with both the Tofu Towers and the Soft Shell Crab. The Tofu Towers include "towers" of deep fried tofu and raw, sliced cucumber, topped with chopped peanuts, scallions, and a tamarind sauce. It's a little more interesting than the usual fried tofu and I like the crunch the cucumber adds. The Soft Shell Crab appetizer is one crab, crisp fried, and sliced in half. Tipparos does noodles and rices quite well. Their combination fried rice has a bit of everything - beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, with peas, carrots, onions and is really well fried. Their pad see ew has a ton of wok char flavor and a thick, soy sauce and American broccoli but it's one of my favorites about of that roasty flavor. Their pad thai is probably below average. The sauce is sometimes inconsistent and the dish is mostly noodles and skimpy on basics like peanuts, bean sprouts, and scallions. Their drunken noodles are okay too. We've tried their Pad Prik King and it was one of their least successful dishes. The beans were old, the sauce was very oily and pungent. TIpparos has been selling a lot of Living Social coupons lately. Be aware that the restaurant eliminates a small portion of the menu (specials) from your ordering, which is not identified anywhere on the coupon and if you come on a busy weekend evening (likely Friday or Sat during dinner-time), they will enforce the "reservations needed" language of the coupon as well. They REALLY like you to announce that you're using the coupon right at the beginning of the meal, but I haven't seen a noticeable difference in portion size when I have/have not. Other than that, using the coupon is no real problem.

Great food at a great price! I've eaten here several times and never had a bad meal. I recommend this place if you want really good food. Take out was always delivered on time and hot. Two thumbs up!

This place is really good. I loved the orange chicken and shrimp fried rice. My friend got a vegetarian plate and loved his as well.

  • Jerri F.

Just had lunch with a friend. Nice varied menu. Service is superb. My friend had many questions. All were addressed accurately and with patience. I had green curry with shrimp which was mildly spicy. I could still taste all the flavors the only down side is it doesn't come with rice, which is an extra cost. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her chicken with broccoli dish. We'll definitely be back.

My family and I usually come to the restaurant for lunch for their lunch plates. Very small and delicious combinations. I recommend their pad Thai or spicy noodles.

We like small, intimate, local, friendly neighborhood eateries. We also like a varied but not overwhelming menu selection. Most of all, we like tasty food. Tipparos has all of this.

Best food we have found as all the Chinese have left East Pasadena and all the Chinese food that is good to eat is gone. Love this place!

  • Reyna M.

I'm not sure how this place got 4 stars!!!!! This place is a joke!! There was 2 tables in the whole place and our food took forever. It was super hot like the ac wasn't even on. Then the spring rolls were basically 1 tiny Shrimp cut in half, the Papaya shrimp salad was ridiculous! And when my food finally came it had a hair! Don't eat here!

    (1)
  • R P.

Small place. Friendly staff. Ordered shrimp salad. I may have said make it spicy. Well. It was very spicy!! Nose dripping spicy!! Waitress apologized and brought complimentary watermelon slices to soothe my palate. I thought that was great customer service.

The chicken pad thai is very flavorful and delicious. I would definitely be returning to taste every dish they have to offer. The Thai tea is yummy. At the time I had my lunch the atmosphere is relaxing with music wafting in. It was an enjoyable first visit.

  • Diana J.

Got the crispy chicken wonton - it was ok. Bbq chicken and got all dark meat, also just ok. Got the garlic salmon and it was over cooked, not pink and slathered with garlic. It was late and I needed food so it was better than being hungry. Maybe I ordered all the wrong stuff?

Date is 18 Apr 15, wife and I first time dining at Tipparos Pasadena CA. We ordered shrimp Tom yum, pineapple fried rice and chicken satay. My Thai coffee was good, Tom yum was a little sour but could have been more sour since we love sour food; pineapple fried rice was good; chicken satay averagely good. The waitress was very friendly and she's pretty. The place has 11 tables and 4 seat bar, nice thai decorations.

  • S C.

5 stars for their service. VERY friendly and nice. The Pad See Ewe was good, I've had better, and wasn't very flavorful. The crab fried rice was very salty..way too much salt. The teriyaki chicken was a little dry. Prices are high and delivery took a long time. I would order from here again if nothing else was open.

  • Elizabeth O.

Excellent food, fresh, flavorful and just plain perfect. Stopped here on way home from airport and knew there was nothing to eat at home.. Ordered to-go the spicy noodle with chicken and extra veggies. The owner was very friendly and service was great. When I got home and dug in it was delicious. Flavorful and crunchy vegetables, not soupy, flavorful with a hint of chile, great welcome back home. There are lots of options for Thai Food in Pasadena so they have tough competition but this is definitely my new Favorite. Only wish I had tried them sooner

  • Laura S.

I really regret not letting them know I was Thai. I think they would had made my food differently. I ordered the food from the restaurant to be delivered to my office. They were surprised I was Thai when I came down to get my food. Then she went away... I immediately knew why. The food is catered to NON-Thai people. If you don't have Thai tastebuds, this would be decent for you. If you are Thai or have been to Thailand (I'm Thai AND lived there for a bit)... you can pass here. SOM-TUM: Papaya Salad: I was really disappointed in this. It was soggy and really warm. It is not suppose to be warm. I know the weather is hot, but it shouldn't be warm and soggy. Like bad soggy. DRUNKEN NOODLES: aka Pad Kee Mao At first bite, it wasn't bad. But then I saw all the oil... HOLY CRAP. Did they use a tank of oil to cook this? I could had made a better Pad Kee Mao. I would had made it healthy too. And add Thai chilies instead of the powdered stuff. :( DELIVERY: Fast. Within 30 min. OVERALL: I'm never going to find a good Thai place in Pasadena... -_-

This is my second time back here in two weeks. It's a nice, warm, welcoming restaurant with beautiful decor. They have a great lunch menu with great prices, as well as an extensive menu of Thai dishes. I've ordered take out both times and haven't been disappointed. The food is tasty and comes as a good sized portion. I love that it's only a few minutes away from my house too! I'll definitely be coming back to explore new dishes. For a small, local spot, it's definitely worth trying!

Do not order for delivery. Food was not as described and I felt like they gave me reheated leftovers.

I've been to this place for several years and it seems like they have recently changed the menu and maybe the chef. I have to say that it tastes better than before and the service remains superb. Highly recommended: spicy noodle, pork spare rib and pineapple fried rice.

  • Mila G.

This place is great! I love thai food, it's my favorite. Their sticky rice with mango is amazing. Also try the pineapple rice and the chicken satay. AMAZING

  • Melanie T.

Worst thai food I have ever had in my life! I got beef fried rice. The beef is flavorless and even with 2 soy sauce packets it taste like I made it myself from the leftovers in the fridge! Complete waste of money!!

  • Charles S.

Periodically this restaurant hang their flyer on the front door. The offering looks good so one day I decided to order. Ordering process actually quite easy although sometime it's hard to understand what the order taker said but they actually quite patient.Takes about 30 to 40 minutes until order arrived and the food is actually quite good. The Tom Yam Goong soup can be customized in spiciness level and being a daredevil I always order the extra spicy and they're not kidding... it's the kind of spiciness that is addictive. Fried rice is good and I always judge Asian eatery on how they do fried rice because it's the basic and can easily screwed up. The fried tofu with the soy chili sauce has become my guilty pleasure. They have several curry dishes to choose and all are delicious. I also have the the opportunity to visit the place in person and the presentation was quite nice. This place is worth to try and it's always good to support your local small business!

This restaurant was great. I had the Pad thai and it was very tasty. I very much appreciated that I got chicken AND shrimp with my meal. Very relaxed and friendly environment with good food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

  • Amy M.

The service was great and there was plenty of parking spots. Every time when I sit down and order food at any restaurants, I would always pay attention at a cleanliness and an interior decoration. This restaurant was well furnished, and cleaned. I personally love the lightning inside. As far as food, my favorite dishes were Chicken Green Curry and Shrimp Pad Thai. Those two dishes were so yummy and I couldn't stop eating them. Most importantly, the price and the food portions were very reasonable. I would say their food's price rages were cheaper than most Thai restaurants around this area. I would definitely bring my friends and family to have dinner here again.

    (5)
  • J V.

Quick service, my roommates always come here and the food smells great! Can't wait to eat! The chicken pad see eew is the meal to get!!

Really great little Thai place. My go-to for lunch during the week. Staff is always friendly and the service is consistently good. Cute ambiance and great food. I've tried a few things, and would certainly recommend the spicy beef salad, tom yum noodle soup (delicious), pad thai, and red curry. Stop in for lunch or dinner...this place never disappoints!

  • Nick L.

Food was fantastic, it was also very convenient that they were open past 9:30 and willing to take order pretty close to ten. Didn't get off work until really late and had no groceries so them being open late on a Sunday was nice

This place is great for quick, yummy thai food with great service . Try their fried catfish, you won't regret it.

Come east! Come eat! We have a lot of good Thai restaurants in the area, but the best in my opinion is Tipparo's on East Colorado Blvd. (Beyond Sierra Madre Blvd. - way east)on the south side of the street - don't miss it. All the dishes are presented beautifully. Everything I have tasted has been delicious. And now I make a habit of dining there. It will take time to get all through the menu, which is varied and extensive.

    (5)
  • Julia Y.

Seems kinda shady but the decor is really cute. We ordered duck rolls and mango sticky rice. Both were served very cutely and were nice snacks. We didn't order anything too big or heavy but the menu seems really delicious and has lots of options (healthy, vegetarian, starters, side orders, desserts, noodles, wraps and rolls). I think I'd come back if I was near; it's not too pricey.

  • Chuck R.

A little hole in the wall place with big flavor! I had two soups here, one soup: the wonton, was excellent and I ordered it thinking it was fried wonton!! The second was the Tom yum soup. The special broth was flavorful and the noodles tender and delicious, the chicken and shrimp, cooked ro prefection. I really can't wait till I'm back and try the other items on thier menu. All in all no negatives other than no restroom.

I've been coming here since '07! Great food, great atmosphere & great service! Lunch specials are great & their dancing shrimp salad is one of my faves.

I got the deal on Amazon Local for this place and thought I would try it out since I was in the mood for Thai Food. Me and my partner went for dinner and the neighborhood was dark and it was almost hard to find. It is located near a martial arts studio. The place and decorations were very beautiful and felt very comfortable. The staff welcomed us immediately and gave us a seat next to the window. Timely service and was very helpful with helping us use the coupon we purchased. We ordered the Tom Kha soup, it was really good and the flavors popped. I did not think I would like a soup other than the Tom Yum. I loved the hint of coconut mixed in with the chicken. We also ordered the Spicy Noodles with Beef. It was not that spicy and the flavors are what you expect of a thai dish, had no complaints and would order it for myself again. Then we had the spicy eggplant, I liked the heat that came from it. It was well done and I do not really like that vegetable. We both agreed about what we most liked about the food, which was that everything tasted fresh. We were stuffed but we decided to get dessert. Sticky rice with mango and OMG I loved it, the sweetness of the rice was just what I needed to end the meal on a good note. The mangos were not sweet, which complimented the sticky rice well. Also, the thai iced tea was good and not bad or weird as some others that I have tasted from other restaurants. Felt bad we did not have the cash to give a bigger tip because the service was exceptional. For that we will definitely head back to this place when we need our thai fix.

I stopped in today. The new layout and decor is gorgeous and relaxed.i had pad see ew it was great and fried tofu had very nice presentation so amazing. I totally in love in TIPPAROS.

  • Dexter K.

Lunch special prices are decent, but the quality just isn't worth it. It's not terrible...but just doesn't compare with other Thai options in the area. Not very flavorful, portions are a bit skim on seafood options, and, at least in my experience, they always forget at least one item (rice/egg roll) on carry out/delivery orders. This is definitely a last-resort option for a Thai food fix.

    (2)
  • Geiger L.

Best Thai I have had at ANY PRICE! Get here now and please ask if they have the mango with sticky rice available. I will make sure that any future trip to Pasadena will include at least one meal at Tipparos.

They hoard rice like famine has struck; who doesn't automatically serve rice with the curry.

i come here very often and i absolutely LOVE it here. from the food to the service to the decor of the place! people are always very welcoming and remember me. i usually always get the shu mai, the fried rice and noodles but they have very good selection and everything smells and looks delicious. portions are good for the price. love love love it here!

For a Sunday afternoon lunch this place is great! The seating is spacious and comfortable and there is relaxing atmosphere throughout. Our service was good, our waitress was attentive without being annoying and my glass of water was never empty. The food was delicious! I can't stress that enough, I was more than happy with everything I ordered. I will definitely be back again for more!

RUDE!!Very disappointed and I didn't even eat there. We live in the area and got on our door step the menu several times we decided to order and we're very excited. I called in the lunch special at 240. They said the kitchen was closed. The man said they close at 3. I told him that the flyer said lunch special til 3. He was a bit annoyed and raised his voice telling me they are closed! It's a thai thing that they close for 1 hour. I said oh I didn't know and I thought I had 20 more mins. Of lunch special. Again raised his voice. NO! I don't have to explain anything I said we r closed. I asked when they open at 4 if they could honor the lunch special. He said no. I was disappointed that they closed and especially the fact he raised his voice at me. My family was so excited to try this place but now I'm just angry I got chewed out on the phone I'm not thai I didn't know!

    (1)
  • David L.

So so disappointed. Beef skewer appetizer was a 0. Meat was so chewy that everyone in our party just left it alone. I think they used London Broil. Bbq chicken was not fresh. Never had a chicken this dry before. To add insult to injury, my son found 3 strands of hair in that dish. Pad thai was ok. A strong 2. Giving them 2 stars because at least the pad see ew was good. But that's kinda hard to mess up.

  • Lauren S.

Public service announcement: their Panang Curry with Chicken is outstanding. So flavorful, and the perfect amount of spice. The sleepy duck was very good, the drunken noodles were just okay (a bit too spicy for me, but that's my own fault for not asking them to temper the spice), and the fresh rolls were a bit bland. They deserve 3 1/2 stars, but I'll round up because of the Panang. Considering their portion size and their low prices, it only makes sense that they only have one waitress working at a time, so don't come here if you're in a rush. Small space, and you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the restroom, which I find oddly kind of charming. Overall a good experience. Get the Panang!

i love this place!!! really good prices and my favorite meal is the spicy noodles.

Saw the write up in Pas Weekly recently. I absolutely do not recommend this place. Went a few months ago and had an argument with some rude man working there over the place being so hot we could die. He was a bully and I would never support a place with employees that mistreat their patrons because they are having a bad day. Stay away!

  • Chris M.

Don't buy the groupon. They put too many limitations and don't let you use it if you don't show it at the very beginning

  • Samin E.

Oh my god. I was there last night and I had the greatest TOM YUM soup ever. I have tried too many thai restaurants in LA , but Tipparos has the best food. So fresh.that I wanted to cry. Also, I had Clay Pot which was so healthy and delisous with secret souce which was a sour hot mixture. Tastes like heaven. The place was so cozy and cute. frirndly service and plates were so fancy:) It was great. Keep up the good work.

Tried to order food from GrubHub and they refused to deliver to my location I was 7 miles away (15 minutes) in Highland Park and they said it was too far for them to deliver. Either they need to not offer food delivery or communicate with GrubHub that their delivery radius needs to be smaller. But if you are going to offer food delivery in the LA area, you should be prepared to travel at least 7 miles. They also waited more than 30 minutes to tell me they would not deliver. Needless to say, I will not give them my business again.

    (1)
  • Purti Awal ..

Disappointed. Delivery order - Pad Thai and Yellow Curry Pad Thai was meh. No peanuts. No spice when it was ordered spicy, and just underwhelming. Yellow Curry - Swimming in oil, no spice and lacked flavor. Was there any hint of coconut in this? I am not sure. Also, did not come with a side of rice which is now standard in most Thai restaurants. With so many Thai places in Pasadena, this place leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Christy N.

I come here every so often and usually have the PadSeeEew w/ Chicken and some Crying Tiger beef. Both very good but sometimes the taste is inconsistent like you'd never know it was the same dish. But I'll be coming back because the staff is friendly and the effort they put into the details of the food presentation makes me feel special.

Came for dinner, and the whole experience was extremely underwhelming. A curry went for $7.95 but they charged $1.50 extra for rice. First of all, curry should automatically have rice included, second of all, the curry itself was really mediocre and my friend felt their carrots were frozen. Third of all who the hell charges for rice when curry is ordered, let alone charges for $1.50 for one bowl. So if you wanted to eat here family style everyone would've had to get their own rice. Fourth of all, the rice was stale and was most likely left overs from lunch, seeing as how during our stay from 7:00pm-8:00pm we were the only customers there. If you want to eat here stick to lunch special, otherwise avoid dinner. Oh and avoid the tipparos sampler ($9.95), it's a complete rip and if the owners are reading this review you guys should either lower that price to at $6.95 or lower or give more in the sampler.

This place has some of the best Thai in Pasadena. Took family with a living social coupon and had a great experience. Friendly, fast and attentive service. My kids kept saying"We're coming back right dad?" Oh yeah, we'll be back.

Apparently they took the review from the Thai woman in 5/15/2014 VERY seriously. We love Thai food and visit Thailand regularly. I know that when I'm in Thailand and order it "mild", I'll just barely be able to eat it. When I ordered everything "mild" this evening, I wasn't prepared for the heat. I licked my fingers after I poured the soup into bowls. Just those few drops were over the top. I managed a few bites of the pumpkin/shrimp curry and the flavors were great, but a few bites was my limit from the heat level. I was planning on doing a big order for a party next weekend. I'm so glad I did a trial run first. My friends are very non-Thai and they wouldn't have been able to eat any of the food for dinner. Delivery was free. Food came on a Friday night in less than an hour. Too bad they can't be consistent with their seasoning.

As I knew, they just change the owner. And guess what.... It is so cute... All the interior and all the staff is so friendly . I loved the wok- rice , which is taste so originally. The mango sticky rice is incredibly awesome too. The yellow creamy toping going to boost your taste bud and make you feel so flavorful . Hmmm yum
