Disappointing. They charge 65 cents if you use a credit card, which is the highest fee I've ever seen. The internet was down, but the woman behind the counter didn't bother to tell me until after I bought my drink and she saw me open up my laptop. "I don't know if you care about that sort of thing, but the internet is down. It goes in and out every 15 minutes." Well, yes, I do care about internet, and the only reason I bought a coffee was to use it. No apologies for internet being down. I decided to try the internet, so I asked if there is a password. "Well, the password is ______, but as I told you, the internet is down." This woman was weirdly passive aggressive. I will not return.

So after my 6am workout, i was famished. i needed something hearty and delicious. fortunately, i had a groupon to coffee barrel and decided after reading all the reviews this was the place to go. first, the decor is adorable. the location is in a strip mall across from a lumber place and near target on e colorado. parking is plenty, but i assume it gets busier as the day progresses. nonetheless, walked in and looked over a menu that was extensive to say the least. i decided to go with the turkey cranberry sandwich...thanksgiving between two slices of bread. it comes on squaw with plenty of turkey, swiss and whole cranberry sauce. yum-o. the best part of this sandwich is that they put it in a panini press...the flavors just melted together and it was amazing. i ate half of it for breakfast (it has fruit. it has protein. it has my carbs hehe). the other half is sitting in the fridge at work just taunting me. you also get a side with this sandwich. i assume they only had mac salad since that's what i got. i also ordered a black iced tea. didn't need to add anything to it. it was good as it is. i'll be back. thanks to groupon i found a new place to go near my work!

This place was so disappointing. We had a groupon so we tried out a new place. I really wanted to like it! Cute decor and I love to help out a little guy, but the food was just ok and the service lady was annoying! When we walked in the lady was on a very loud personal phone call in which she proceeded to berate someone for being a hypocrite. Three of the items we asked for they are out of so we had to make fourth choices. My chili was Hormel out of can and my husbands sandwich would have been better if I made it at home. The side dish was salad in a cup the size of a half dollar, really?? disappointed I bought two groupons!

I want to love this place but I just can't. As hard it is, I'm going to be honest with my review. I came here because I recently purchased this deal through Groupon. I remember walking into the restaurant, and I thought to myself that this was going to be first of many visits. I looked at the menu, however, to find that it was very limited, and most of them sounded similar with just different cuts of meat. I decided to order the Reuben sandwich, and my girlfriend wanted the roast beef sandwich. Unfortunately, she said they were out of corn beef and turkey. I looked back at the menu board to find that meant I could only choose from 4 selections. I ended up ordering a breakfast burrito. Still, I tried hard to love this place. She handed our food from the counter and, from a quick glance, the breakfast burrito didn't look too appetizing. I gave my girlfriend her food and I sat down to a disappointing burrito. I had immediately noticed something wrong when I took my first bite. I wanted ham, not bacon. Being the only person in the front and kitchen, I simply brushed this off and continued to chow down the rather unpleasing meal. Meanwhile, I noticed that my girlfriend was not enjoying her meal as well. She said there was too much horseradish and she could not taste anything else. It's safe and rather easy to say that this was below expectations, and I would not be coming back for food. Maybe coffee.

I always like supporting "mom and pop" businesses, and this is one of those businesses where I feel good about spending my money. When I walk in, the owner always knows what I want. I love that. Good drinks, food, and a friendly smile. That's what keeps me coming back.

The sign says it all, "Sandwiches That Rock!" It's really a perfect sandwich, and being the son of a deli owner I take sandwiches pretty seriously. It's a pretty tall sandwich, even after a pressing in the panini, with lots of layers of meat so you can actually taste the meat. I tend to get mine with a mix of cheeses and ask to have peppers added before being toasted so they're mixed in with the melted cheese. Tony and Nancy really perfected them so the balance is just right. Such a great deal for a sandwich and side for under $6. Also good are the assorted pastries and baked goods, some of which are homemade. The english muffin breakfast sandwiches are great as well as the croissant sandwiches.

Hands down this place rocks if you want a tasty, home made style, fresh sandwich. The lady is really nice, helpful, and makes the sandwiches to order so don't get too impatient Pass up the chips and try the potato salad bomb.com

They are friendly and the food is OK but nothing special. SOOO SLOOOOOWWWWW... Honestly it takes like 15+ minutes to get a sandwich. And there's only like 10 things on the whole menu. Blah, I'm not impressed.

This is my first review...and I'm sorry that it's a bummer. I was hoping to finally use my Groupon today (it expires today) and when I finally found the place, I find that it was CLOSED! There was a regular "Closed" sign and a written "We Will Be Closed Today!" type of sign taped to the inside of the door. What a waste of money...not much, but it's still money. I tried to call, no answer, not even an answering machine! I ended up going to COFFEE CANTATA down the block and spent $5.98 on a croissant, ham, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich. (it was VERY GOOD, by the way) I'm just so disappointed that I didn't get to use my Groupon and this was a pretty bad first time experience that didn't get to happen, man! MODED me (:|

Haven't tried the sandwiches yet. If I do, I will update this review. However, for their ice coffee was so bad I had to toss it in the trash as soon as I walked out the door. It had a nasty funk to it. The moment I saw the coffee being poured into a cup of ice from a thermos, I knew it was going to be bad. Only barbarians do that! I really should've asked how the ice coffee is made before I ordered it. So that was a real disappointment, since I was craving an icy cold drink on a scorching hot summer day. I ended up walking over to Coffee Cantata to get a smoothie, but that turned out inedible as well and I had to toss that in the trash the moment I stepped out the door. So I threw about $7-8 in the trash within 30 minutes.

Stumbled upon this place by accident due to having to return my crappy cable box to Charter. The black forest ham sandwich was delicious and I look forward to returning for the tuna (served on Fridays and Saturdays only) and the turkey club as well. As others have said, a random strip mall next to Fu Shing and across from a couple deserted used car lots. But worth the stop if you're strolling East Pas or in my case, returning crappy hardware to the Cable company next door.

I'm a bit split about this place: -Food and atmosphere: 5 stars! -Coffee: 1/2 star... The cafe itself is very nicely decorated and clean. The workers are also very friendly which is a huge deal for me. I got a roast beef sandwich and it was great, fat with a ton of beef without skimping on the fixin's and condiments. Would be a great place to grab a quick meal or to study. However, for a place with "coffee" in the name, I was disappointed. The iced mocha was essentially some sort of sweetened syrup that was far too thick and sweet to be enjoyable. Couldn't taste the espresso either. We also got an iced coffee. Not trying to be mean or picky, but it tasted watered down and bitter/stale. Not the worst iced coffee I've had, but far from enjoyable. They've already lived up to the "Sandwiches that rock!" part of their name, hopefully the "coffee" part will be coming soon.

The coffee barrel is amazing!!! Extremely friendly and polite! They offer some of the best sandwiches and even better desert! Soup fans... They have the BEST lentil soup In the whole United States of America!!! To top this all off, their coffee is always fresh and more amazing than anything I've described! This place really epitomizes healthy and extremely yummy food! Trust me you will not be disappointed!

I told Nancy that I would be back for a try at her sandwiches. I had that opportunity recently and so I ordered the BLT. OMFG! This sandwich, normally, is a single decker toasted bread with mayo. Nancy takes this general idea and turns it up notches that I didn't even know a BLT could have. My son kept trying to sneak bites! This sammich was so incredibly huge and the bacon....uh huh....the bacon! I was completely satisfied.

  • Karen H.

amazing sandwiches. had their tuna salad sandwich, which they only make on fridays and saturdays and their BLT sandwich. I scarfed it down in like 10 secs. great portions. also the place is so cute. will want to hang out there more often. :) love this place.

Fantastic little place hidden in a really ghetto strip mall. Like so many others, I stumbled upon this place when going to the Charter store. Decided to try it out and got the signature turkey sandwich which was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.

My co-workers always brought sandwiches from this little shop. They would rave about how great this turkey cranberry sandwich was.. So one day I decided to try out this joint. Although, I'm not a fan of turkey cranberry, I did get the signature turkey.. and WOW! It was so delicious, and of course I got it with a side of jalapenos and a macaroni salad. To finish off my meal, I got one of those little chocolate things and it was YUM. Nancy and Tony are such great people.. Every time i come in, they know me by name and they are just a joy to talk to. Definitely worth a try.. and the decorations inside the restaurant is so adorable!!

Okay, I went back and looked up Nancy. I didn't want money back just another tasty sandwich, so I ordered the turkey and cranberry again. I don't think I'll ever try another sandwich here cuz this one's so good. Never would have thought I'd be a cranberry fan...but the sandwich changed my mind. Definitely coming back.

Love this place! Came here because of a groupon and I'm so glad I did. Service was a bit slow, but I saw that as family style because the owner, Nancy, treated me like I was a part of the fam. She was friendly, fun, and makes one awesome corned beef sandwich! She put up with all my questions when I was having a hard time choosing what to order. She also didn't mind that I hung out there all day writing a paper. I have nothing bad to say about this place and think you should go check it out.

Everyone loves Nancy! I eat here once or twice a month for lunch when I am working in the field. I usually get a tuna or turkey sandwich with a potato salad side and a bottle of water. Sandwiches are great, sides are made here and love the potato salad. Restaurant has a nice ambiance with a little mellow music on and free Wi Fi. The owner is charm and always friendly, appreciatvie and says thank you. Her 2 year old baby boy is in sometimes and the cutest thing I've ever seen. They offer patio dining also if you'd like to sit outside and people watch. Have had the coffee here a couple of times and great. Highly recommend - good food, great staff, great location and perfect setting inside.

We went there last Saturday after a failed attempt the Sunday before. (BF had no idea it was closed on a Sunday and made us all crave sandwiches before driving there to discover that it was closed.) Anyway, the sandwiches are delicious. I had the BLT (double decker) and the bacon was cooked wonderfully; thick, crispy and crunchy. And they weren't stingy with the bacon either! While ordering, I was asked if I wanted any jalapenos with my sandwich and I thought, why not? I love a good kick to my meal. But who knew it would be so good?! I sure as heck didn't. For the four of us, the price came out to be about $10 each person, (with drinks - smoothies). BF and friend ordered their ham and cheese croissant, which was made on a panini press and then other friend ordered another sandwich that I'm totally blanking on. The smoothies were ok, not made from real fruit. Overwall, if the mood strikes, we'll def. visit again.

My unlucky streak ended and I found the Coffee Barrel open! I'm upgrading it to the very best local sandwich shop. I had their vanilla chai latte -- oh, LORDY!! It was bewitching. The staff was as sweet and attentive as ever, and our sandwiches were absolutely perfect. Love you, Coffee Barrel!!

I love this place. But first, a caveat. It's in the ugliest most cracked out ghetto strip-mall around. But then again, so are many many other wonderful places in Southern California, so you just have deal with it. Why do I love it? Well it's privately owned by a really nice couple who make a point of getting to know you. That doesn't mean 'getting to know you in a nosy way', they are just upbeat and seem to really appreciate the business. The food is well prepared and the environment is cozy for a strip-mall coffee shop. It's not run by hippies (that means you Zephyr!) so it has lots of things you want to eat. It's just...well, it's a nice place. They have comfortable chairs, free wi-fi and zero hype. So if you find yourself cruising along E. Colorado and don't want to stop to enjoy the services of one of the many ladies of the night that seem to frequent the area...stop here for a refreshing family vibe and a good cup of espresso.

My friend got a groupon for this place, so we decided to redeem it today. I thought it was just going to be another coffee/ sandwich spot, but I was wrong! The lady which I am assuming is the owner was super nice took our orders and promptly delivered food to our table. She was the only working so it was about a 10 min wait but that was fine. I got a turkey signature sandwich and it was absolutely delicious! I thought subway was delicious, but this place blows subway out of the water. Plus each sandwich comes with a side of potato salad, and that was absolutely delicious. The lady came by our table several times to ask if everything was okay, my friend mentioned that she wanted more espresso in her coffee and said it was ok though, the owner immediately said that I will fix it for you and went on her way to fix my friend's drink. This is what I call excellent customer service, it's been a long while since I have experience this and it kind of refreshing. I am glad I discovered this place because I will be frequenting it from now on!

My family have been enjoying Nancy's hand crafted signature sandwiches for the last 3 years. My daughter loves the egg croissant sandwich and we love the Turkey cranberry and Veggie sandwiches. This tucked away restaraunt has survived this miserable recession because her sandwiches are one of a kind! P.s. They have the best holiday decorations P.P.S. they have great coffee and delicious ice cream! Oh I almost forgot..you have to try her tuna sandwiches..makes it real hard to stay on WW's because her food is so delicious! Great jazz music is a plus..

Small quiet place, owned by one friendly lady. Great sandwiches, try all of them. And I love their Belgian waffle. It's very light and fluffy.

I really wanted to like this place more. Truly. I, too, decided to try this place because of my groupon (the lady who waited on me possibly had Groupon Remorse as she questioned both me and my husband individually-- You guys gonna come back without the Groupon? In fact, our entire conversation revolved around groupon and her doubts about it working out for her.) I'm thrilled that there was a vegetarian soup option (lentil). But it was so very very salty. I didn't enjoy it. My husband ate it and agreed it was salty, but finished it none the less. The veggie sandwich ($6) was just OK. When the lady asked my husband how he thought it was and said "good" she replied "Oh, come on! You know that sandwich is Rockin'!" (No, but the service is Annoyin'!) I saw another review say that they enjoyed their side dish. No side dish for us other then sliced oranges which I consider more of an edible garnish. Also had a slice of carrot cake which we both agreed was the highlight of the meal. Our lunch order (1 cup soup, two veggie sandwiches- no sides, 1 slice carrot cake, no beverages) without groupon totaled about $20. I'm not in a rush to go back to average sandwiches that seem pricey along with disappointing service. There were like 4-5 occupied tables and it seemed like they were really in the weeds. After reading the other reviews, perhaps meat eaters have a different experience here. I'm sorry, lady, that the answer is no. We probably won't be back without our groupon.

Not worth the money. There're so many other places that does a better job. It took them 20 mins to fill an order of roast beef sandwich. BTW, I was the only one there. Its not like there were10 orders ahead of mine.

Work around the corner from this place and didn't know it existed until Thursday. Went with some coworkers, who also had never been there but heard good stuff. The owner (?) Nancy greeted us and recommended some coffee drinks. I got a double shot espresso and it was much bigger than most places and tasted great. Got the turkey club and macaroni salad. It was FANTASTIC! The sandwiches aren't enormous, but she stuffed tons of turkey and bacon. It tasted fresh and delicious. The macaroni salad had a bit of sweetness to it and was great! I'll definitely be going more regularly.

This is place is hidden in the back of the shopping center but totally worth it. The sandwiches are declicious and the service is awesome. The atmosphere is extremely comfortable and relaxing. I highly recommend EVERYTHING!!!!

Like most others I very much enjoyed the sandwiches and was taken aback with how nice and welcoming the owners were. They are the kind of people that remember your name and if your eaten there before. At first glance they knew I was a first time customer and they made me feel as though I had been eating there for years. Only downside is the plaza they are located in, doesn't look that appealing but it also does make it feel as though you have found a hidden treasure.

What's up with this place, everytime I go its closed and its not even a holiday or weekend! No notice that they'll be closed by way of their phone, just a handwritten note on their door when you get there!

It's been some time since I was able to return to this wonderful gem of a place, run by Nancy with such attentive and excellent quality. Met with a colleague for lunch, and the sandwiches (I had the BLT, he had the Turkey) were as outstanding as I remember! And the chili is as good as it gets, all freshly made. Great, chill music playing, very nice vibe, perfect place for a meeting or for talking with friends or just working. Free wifi, too! I'm planning on being back in January now that I'm between terms. The food and feel of the place makes this one of the Valley's hidden treasures.

Went to return charter equipment today and saw the coffee shop next door. Since it was lunch time i ordered the vegetable sandwich which was very tasty, i liked the bread they used, not sure what it was. They have a wide range of coffee selection to choose from and we also tried some of their homemade cake slice which was good too. Overall good place for the whole family too eat. And did i mention they have a kids menu too!

Their slogan reads: "We have 15 gourmet sandwiches and they all ROCK!" Totally true! Environment: Located in a strip mall but I've always had great luck with parking. There is seating outside (two tables) but the inside is where it's at. They offer free wifi, have great music and a flat screen tv, and the AC is always blowing. There are couches for comfy dining or waiting for your to-go order, as well as regular tables and chairs. The whole place has a comfy, casual vibe to it not only because the owners greet you with a smile, but you don't have to pay until after you eat (the owners trust their customers THAT much!) and they bring the food to you in jeans and a tee. Gotta love it! Food: Amazing sandwiches. Their turkey and cranberry sandwich is my favorite and it's hard for me to order anything else, but I force myself to try new things...so I got the turkey with swiss. Still good, but the turkey cran is my fave. The cranberry sauce really makes this sandwich good. It's flavored with spices (cinnamon and nutmeg perhaps?) and slathered between piles of turkey and fresh romaine lettuce. They also include honey mustard and cheese, but the sandwich is great without them too. Each sandwich is served with a side of potato salad, mac salad, or pickled veggies. Go with the potato salad! The other two items just aren't as good. My bf ordered a egg and cheese croissant sandwich with bacon and I had to take a bite. First, the size of the thing is huge! i thought it was one and half croissants, but it's just one large croissant. They toast the croissant making it warm and super flaky but still moist inside. The scrambled egg is fluffy and the cheese is melty and gooey...DEELISH! I can't wait to order that next time. They also serve pancakes and waffles (all you can eat on Sundays) and you can order a scoop of ice cream on your belgian waffle. How awesome is that? Why five stars? Their sandwiches are delicious and they are CHEAP! $6 for a gourmet sandwich with potato salad and great service!? That's why I keep coming back. Corner Bakery and Lovebirds has nothing on this place!

Nancy, the owner is so friendly ...and the sandwiches are great too. The area is not awful as some people have commented. Just a strip mall with not much else but not dangerous or seedy. The place is quaint and the ambiance is cozy. We had waffles, a bagels sandwich to travel for, tea and coffee. Everything was top notch and made this small location one of our favorite breakfast places.

i don't know about the coffee, but let me tell you about their gourmet sandwiches. yes, gourmet sandwiches. how does a place give you a heaping portion of meat (try the black forest ham), and charge only $6 for it? (ok, so it might have been $7, but with such quality meat, who cares?) nancy, you rock. did i mention free WIFI as well?

This place is great! The food is outstanding. The drinks are great. The people are wonderful. Excellent prices. Great selection. I used to live down the street and go there for lunch once or twice a week. I now live across town and still make it there at least once a week. It is that good! I've been in the area for about 20 years and haven't found anything that compares to the Coffee Barrel.

When I was craving tuna sandwiches during pregnancy, the Coffee Barrel turned up as a place that makes a GREAT version. Though the online reviews say that tuna is only available weekends, the truth is that they make it periodically but not just on weekends. The best way to ensure that you'll get their tuna is by calling in advance. What I like about their tuna salad is that it does not have onion in the mix - just celery and relish. They are also very neat and orderly in the way they make and wrap sandwiches as you can see. But the sandwiches are a little small as they are on regular sandwich bread, not overflowing with innards, and I think their salads may be store bought.

I ordered a roast beef signature sandwich which turned out just okay. Little too heavy on the mustard. Also, the meat was good, but sliced very thick. If you compare my roast beef sandwich with the other one posted in the photos, there's a big difference between what i was expecting, and what I got. My sandwich bread was crying out for more filling. Also, I feel cheddar is essential to a roast beef, but they ran out and I had to pick another cheese. The bell pepper was a great addition to the sandwich, though. I liked that it was pressed and cheese melted. The menu selection and restaurant interior were nice. TBH, I think I can get more bang for my $7.50 elsewhere. On to the next sandwich shop to try!

Went here to pick up a uhaul as they are a dealer. They were great, incredibly helpful and accommodating. They offered us free coffee while we waited and everyone was amazing the coffee was great too. It's too bad I moved out of state otherwise I would definitely go back again.

4th time attempting to give this place my money and again a bad experience. First time went for some morning coffee around 9am. They were closed. Seriously? A breakfast/coffee place doesn't open till 10:30. The dumbest hours I've ever seen for a COFFEE shop. Next two times a sign that said they'd be right back. The last visit was a stellar experience. I show up at 10:45. Door locked. I call, no answer. I call again a lady answers and acknowledges I tried to come in. She says she's still getting the meats ready for later and she'll be ready in about 10 minutes. I ask for the manager and she tells me she is the owner!! Are you crazy?! First off, you have the laziest hours of a breakfast/coffee spot I have ever seen. Secondly, you can't get your lazy butt up and all your prep work done before your 10:30 open?! And then ask the customer to come back because you're not quite done. Phenomenal service. I will never come back here. The gem who is running this place lost a lot of business. I'm a 2 minute walk away and love giving people money for coffee. Happily the Pencil Cafe were more than happy to take my money AND offered great service.

In addition to this location being a coffee shop, it is also an authorized uhaul dealer. Yes, people. It's a coffee shop that rents out uhaul trucks and this review is just for their uhaul service and not their food menu/service :) I'm a previous uhaul employee and I can determine the difference between good dealers and the bad ones. This is definitely in the "good dealers" section. Although it was a dealer based at a coffee shop, the service and rental was smooth, fast, easy and efficient. Ask for Tony. He demonstrates good people-skills and great customer service.

i think this place is owned by a married couple. well the wife Nancy is a total bitch!!!!!! yea i said bitch!!!!!!!! i dont see how they expect to get customers with such a shitty attitude and personality. her husband is such a nice guy but she is a total snob. if you walk around mad at the world then dont do customer service! !!! you are no better than anyone else lady. Nancy take some tips from your husband on how to talk to customers and treat people with respect.

I just love this place. Such a gem of a sandwich shop. I've never had the coffee, but looks like a pretty professional setup for that too. I had the turkey cranberry the first few times and it's so good. My new fave though is the tuna-- it's amazing! Best tuna sandwich I've ever had. Really fresh and light tasting. Big enough for me to split, especially since we get a side of macaroni salad, potato salad, chips or fruit with it too. I recommend the macaroni salad. She always offers some sort of homemade pickled veggies too.. Sometimes assorted veggies and sometimes jalapeños. They're delish. The owner is so super sweet and takes really good care of her customers. It's generally pretty empty in here, however I did come in one time and she was totally slammed because a big group of attorneys had come in on their lunch break. I felt so bad for her, and she was so sweet and apologetic that I didn't even care that my sandwich took like 15 minutes. But if you're in a hurry and the place looks busy, I wouldn't chance it. Honestly it's so nice to have a great little spot off the beaten path to go to-- I hope they stick around!

Great sandwich. Had the roast beef. It was a slow afternoon so mostly had the place to myself. They have wifi, I worked for a few hours. Didn't get to try the coffee. Lady was nice.

Part of my job involves reaching out to local small businesses. I stumbled upon the coffee barrel on one such visit. I was instantly impressed with the service. The (I assume) owner/barrista was very friendly. She offered to set up my brochures and call us when they ran out. She also gave me some coupons for discounts on sandwiches. I found myself returning because a sandwich sounded perfect. I got her tuna salad (something she claims is a favorite to the point that it has become a regular choice). I have to say it was quite good. There was not too much of any one ingredient and everything tasted fresh. I also really like the decor of the place. It feels like a cozy funky living room/cafe. Just a sense of good energy. As a sandwich lover I will be back.

We ordered the famous turkey cranberry sandwich. Delicious! The bread is toasted but thinly sliced. It was crunchy and tasty. The price was reasonable for the sandwich and a side of macaroni salad. I ordered a smoothie to top it off. Definitely will be back for lunch.

It was our first time going in on Monday because we were picking up a U-haul trailer. Nancy was great asking if we needed anything while we waited, so we ordered the turkey and cranberry sandwich and it was wonderful. I also order a large latte and it was perfect! Great coffee and not scorching hot like many coffee places. I love going to an independent coffee house rather than the huge corporate houses like Starbucks. Come here, you'll be glad you did. Nancy will take good care of you. Sue & Michael The Alpaca People

I bought a simple egg and cheese englidh muffin with bacon added, and it was delicious! I was expecting to get 2-3 strips of bacon, but got about 5-6. Definitely got hooked up! The ice coffee is good too. I'll be coming back the next time in town

I wish this were closer to my place, I would come all the time! I stopped by randomly for lunch because I was in the neighborhood for work and had a turkey sandwich with an iced tea. The sandwich really hit the spot - not your ordinary subway style sandwich. The greens were fresh and the sandwich was loaded with both meat and veggies. :) Overall flavor profile was great! The tea wasn't sweetened and was perfect for my taste. I still like to taste tea and generally skip the sugar. They have a stamp card so make sure you grab one and come back!

I can't understand why this isn't crowded all the time. It has great ambiance; good coffee and good food. Ample parking.

Wow what a find thanks to groupon. I have never heard of this coffee/sandwich shop until I saw the offer on Groupon recently. I read the reviews on yelp and thought why not and purchased myself the groupon for this cafe. The location is a little obscure, it's in Pasadena on Colorado past PCC and in this random little plaza off of El Nido Street. I passed it at first because I couldn't see the coffee shop off the street. It's located in a quiet little shopping plaza that has a pizza joint and a dry cleaners among other stores. When I walked into the cafe, there was one another customer who was on his way out. I was excited about the sandwiches because I read everyone's reviews about them and how amazing they were. After perusing the menu located to the wall on the right of the front entrance I decided on the roast beef. It sounded scrumptious- horseradish, pickles, roast beef, alfalfa sprouts, cheddar cheese, lettuce, bell peppers and tomatoes! The sandwiches also come with a side of potato salad, macaroni salad or orange slices...of course I chose potato salad, I love potato salad! And I ordered a iced black tea, freshly brewed. The owner was really nice and I was telling her I had never heard of this coffee shop before. The place has apparently been open for 6 years! I had no clue- what a hidden gem. So I sat at the table and read my book while she made the sandwich. When she brought it out, I was practically drooling, but of course I took a pic before I dug into the sandwich. She warned me that it was very saucy which I was fine with- I love sauce! The sandwich was nice and thick with lots of roast beef (yay meat) and lots of crunchy veggies. The bell peppers was a nice touch- it gave the sandwich some texture and a nice crunch. There was lots of zesty horseradish sauce which I liked and pickles. Towards the end my sandwich fell apart, but it didn't matter because I was too busy scarfing it down. The potato salad was good, it came in a little paper cup and it was nice and sweet. Oh and I also got a side of jalapenos- yum, nothing like a little spice to add to the sandwich. Next time I'm definitely going to come back to try the coffees and of course another sandwich :) I highly recommend this place, I will be making my second groupon purchase soon!!

Meh. The place is nice, it's clean, and has good decor. I got the raved about turkey cranberry sandwich, and it was fine, just not spectacular, also the accompanying potato salad was store bought, so that wasn't so great. I went here looking for a place to hole up with my laptop for some work/writing and intensive caffeination. There are no comfortable seats for long-term sitting, and there are no plugs for electronics, so for my purpose it just didn't work. Otherwise it's just okay. Not horrible, but not fantastic.

Love the freshly juiced fruits & veggies. Had the Famous Turkey Cranberry and the Barrel Signature, both sandwiches were amazing! I loved the dark rye and honey mustard on the turkey cranberry and the Barrel Signature was so huge and good!

Had an awesome corned beef sandwich. So excited, wanted to bring my family back. My daughter loves breakfast burritos----so we have tried twice, and they were closed both times. Today, when I googled them, it said they opened at 8am. I phoned at 8:15, and no answer. After many rings, a machine answered, but it was full and no message about hours, etc. So, I drove there. sign in window said "closed", but no hours posted. I give up!!!

Great Food. Great Drinks. Great prices. You get a loaded, high quality sandwhich, AND a side ranging anywhere from $6-$8. People gotta try this place. AND YES THEY'RE STILL OPEN!

Meh. I always support mom & pop stores when I can and give them a shot, but then, the onus is on them to surpass the chains (not a high bar to clear). Coffee Barrel has Sub-par food, IMO. In fact, the turkey meat in my sandwich tasted like Hormel factory rejects. I'll give them a plus for a cozy interior that would be good for chatting with friends, though when doing so, I'd stick with canned beverages...

Love supporting local businesses, especially when they deserve it. Had a sandwich and iced coffee, both excellent. Way off my beaten path. Will make a point of going back, sooner rather than later.

I'm disappointed with The Coffee Barrel. I've tried not once but twice to go to this place, but they were closed. I'll admit the first time would be my mistake as it was a holiday. Oops my bad. But let it be known, there was no sign saying they were going to be closed. On my 2nd visit, same thing, closed. No signs saying that they will be closed. It was pretty disappointing to see a note from someone else stating they waited for this place to open. I did call but their voice mail message didn't say anything about them being closed. It appears that they're still in business. But forget it. I'm not wasting any more time with them.

Here's a tip: call first to make sure they're open!! Going off of their hours as posted on their yelp profile, I showed up at 5pm on a Monday, hungry and looking forward to a nice hour spent leisurely eating and reading - only to be confronted with the grim CLOSED sign. Was superbummed, especially when I went out of my way to drive there. Reading one of the other reviews, apparently they close shop whenever they're catering, so beware: they may not actually be there at listed store hours and it's best to doublecheck, especially if you're driving from far to get there. It took two tries to finally catch the place when it was open, and the second time, the restaurant was closed when I arrived at 11AM, but I waited half an hour and the owner returned. The owner, Nancy, tries really hard to make her customers feel at home. A couple of kids and their father walked in, and she greeted them by name and reminded them to wear sunscreen when they went swimming that day. I really liked my turkey and cranberry sandwich, but the prices are a little expensive for something I could make at home. Other reviewers are right that the service is a little slow .. it looked like they only have one person (the owner) working both the register and making the food, so I had to wait a good 20-30 minutes for my food, and orders definitely got backed up.

Two words.. TURKEY & CRANBERRY. Well thats three words including 'and', right? Anyway, if you can catch them when they're open then in you are in for a treat! I have only tried one sandwich here, simply because I can't get over how good it is. The turkey & cranberry sandwich is so freaking good, its worth calling home about. I would eat the sandwich even after Thanksgiving day, when your just about sick of the turkey/cranberry combo. There is always a sweet lady working here, she's quick, polite, and chatty! The Coffee Barrel itself is small, and tucked away in a strip mall. And I have driven there a few times to find it closed. But oh well!

I love good food! And I'm very picky. I loved coffee barrel & the owner Nancy! Food was delicious ,customer service: great! Big plus-jazz music playing in the background. Also came across this: It was weird to see a couple ,who was sitting next to me and tried to act unhappy and were being ridiculous for no reason, when lovely owner was nothing but nice to them! I swear so many people give bad reviews only because they're having a bad day. Not fair! Nancy, it was pleasure visiting your restaurant!!! I'll Be back.Thank u for a wonderful experience! Please, don't take out my review! People need to hear !!;-)

I love this place! It is a great business owned by a very nice lady, Nancy. All of her sandwiches are handcrafted and created fresh! The Turkey Reuben & Tuna Sandwiches are EXCELLENT! The decor is very cozy, inviting, and fit the name "Coffee Barrel" perfectly. In addition and most importantly, the place is extremely clean!! This is a must-try if you are in the Pasadena area.

Best coffee shop in Pasadena for getting some work done. It's not filled will loud people, and there's always a seat. I love the egg/cheese croissant sandwich. And the coffee tastes really good.

This is one of those hidden gems that you find from time to time. Everything is fresh and always delicious. All of the juices are made right in front of you. I always stop by when ever I'm in the area.
