Solid 4! I knew I was in for something great when I saw a l guy drinking beer from what looked like a Sparklets Water bottle sized mug. He was on his 3rd litter of beer, btw. Back to Wolfskopf: - Great beer - Dismal wine selection - Uber comfortable seating. . You will actually be able to hear the person across from you. - I specially liked their Cheddar Bratwurst and their Lobo Chicken Sausage They provide ample seating inside and out. They have an area downstairs for sipping brandy. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and stopped by frequently. TGOE Protip: Start with their sasage appetizer plate..it will give you a good sampling. A nice change of pace for Old Town Pasadena. A changing beer menu every time ive came here will keep you on your toes. The food selection in slim, but its really really good. Some people dont know this, but there both an upstairs (main section), a downstairs and a outside seated beer garden out back. Live music on occasions. Its a great place to start your night for a few beers and some eats before you venture out.

Dark wood paneled walls with slighter lighter tables with a traditonal blue argyle octoberfest pattern, half room long tables that seat 6-8, while the other half tables for 4. Not withstanding the bar upon entry. It's German all the way, and my heritage lives strong and true here. Ein bier und ein shot...down the hatch. With rock Americana at a medium level, this has got drink and sausage written all over it. It's more modern than the typical German barmaid, that would be horrible (not) anyway, and no Oom Pah Pah. Bar service, which is good, because you can check yourself after each beer. How am I doing? Still walking straight or how did I end up on the floor by the wall? I got a grapefruit beer to start: deliciously smooth, low alcohol (2.7%) and very soda tasting. The bartender said he drinks it all day. I moved on to one of my faves, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, and was ultra happy. 1. Wolfstyle Tator Tots - beer cheese, pickled peppers, caramelized onions, bacon & chives. Looks amazing, but I was underwhelmed with the flavors that did not exactly go together ($10.00, 4.0 stars). 2. Hot Polish Kielbasa: spicy pork & beef sausage smoked w/peppers & garlic. Good quality but very plain, wouldn't order again. ($8.00, 3.5 stars). 3. The Wolf Burger: ground beef patty, black forest ham, lettuce, swiss cheese, toasted bell peppers & sauted onions. Wow. Different and really good. Top 25 burger on the "Berger knows: Burgers" list, and great price to boot ($10.00, 4.5 stars). yelp.com/list/berger-kno… At 430pm, the ambiance while cool, was quiet...4 people tops. By 8pm, it was jam packed, and special bar opens up downstairs. I like, I really do.

German food with a twist? You had me sold at smothered tater tots. We came here after attending ScareLA nearby and wanted a hearty meal to finish off our day. Katie B recommended this place and since it was within walking distance; so we traveled by foot from the Pasadena Convention Center to this nice little eatery. If you're hanging around Colorado St., then this is a great alternative to all the chainy action going on down there. The restaurant offers your typical German fare like bratwursts and sausages, but then has gut bombs like the Wolf Burger and Wolf Style tater tots. We ordered both of those, stuffed our faces and had no regrets. Our meal: - Wolf Style tater tots: You can get these with fries, tots or a combo of the two. We went strictly tots and the the bartender reassured us that was the way to go since they held the toppings best. They didn't disappoint with their gooey beer cheese, pickled peppers, caramelized onions, bacon and chives. Again, not a diet food and you're stomach better be prepared for the greasy goodness it's about to take in. - Wolf Burger: We ordered ours medium and enjoyed it a lot. Besides the beef patty, it came loaded with Black Forest ham, lettuce, Swiss cheese, bell peppers and then covered with sauteed onions. It's a rich burger and very messy. I was ready to throw in the towel after a few bites since the tots were already taking up most of the room in my stomach. The meat was a great balance of pink, and I appreciated that it wasn't overcooked. - Bavarian Nuremburg: If it's on the menu, I'm going to order it. This was my favorite thing to eat while in Germany, and if a restaurant can do it right, it definitely takes me back to my happy place. This did not disappoint! The sausage came with your choice of topping and we went with sauerkraut. The pickled veggie wasn't overpowering and we smothered it with ketchup and mustard for extra flavor. They also had a house sauce that was sort of like a horseradish aioli - I felt it in my nose, but I liked it. - Schofferhofer Grapefruit Radler: I love the mixture of juice and beer - especially if it's the tart nectar of a grapefruit. This was my first time having this version and I liked it so much, I ordered two. It has a light alcohol content so you can drink multiples without getting sloshed, but it's a nice pairing to your food with a little bit of a beer bite to it. We even found ourselves at BevMo afterwards to pick up a six pack for later consumption at home. Service is great, but you have to order through the bar. It was a little chaotic since the bartenders are trying to sling drinks while taking requests - so be prepared to wait a bit if it's busy. Since they have a good amount of seating, I don't know why they don't have at least one dedicated server taking care of that section. I think it would streamline the process so that there aren't a lot of people crowding around one area. Parking is available on the street or nearby lots, and the place even has a decent amount of patio seating if you want to take in the beautiful weather. This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Pasadena and I'll for sure be back soon!

I really hope these guys make it because this spot has had so many companies move in and out over the past few years, it's a little concerning but here they are, and I wish you luck! I had the Woolfstyle Shoestring and the Bavarian Nuremberg and both were great. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. Washed it down with a light belgium beer and I was done. I like the decor and I hope to see what's downstairs next time!

After trying German food about 4 times in my entire life, I was content on file it away as something I wasn't too into. But Der Wolfskopf opened my eyes - the best German (or maybe German-American) food I've ever had. Two of my friends recommended this place and I was intrigued. The day before I enjoyed a cheese brautwurst from a food truck, so my food order was a little different. The salami/cheese - sandwich (9). Is this still German? Regardless, I've learned that German places love bread and I actually enjoyed my sandwich open face to save myself the calorie count. I was impressed. The pretzel bread was NOT overly salty like I was expecting and flavor was carried by the meat and sauces like it should be. Winner! The pickled veggies on the side were a nice plus. I took a bite of my boyfriend's cheese brautwurts (hush) (7) and it was pretty good! Very bread-y, but meat was better quality than the food truck (I would hope so). My roommate had the Oak Smoked Beer Bratwurst (7) - the toppings were nice and the beer element was subtle. Though the appetizers were the real star of the show. Pretzel Plate (10) - 3 pretzels and large beer cheese. My roommate said he could he this all the time. I would agree with him. Though I wished there was more cheese. There's never enough cheese, right? The cheese was gritty and was best eaten warm. This was a surprise treat. Walfstyle Tater Tots (10) - Included beer cheese, peppers, caramelized onions, bacon and chives. - was tasty, but of course anything on tots is great! The jalapeños were extra spicy, but pretty enjoyable. I was in love! Great place for a casual dinner with a big group. The decor inside is like hogwarts and the patio outside lacked ambiance comparatively. The downstairs bar was also pretty fun looking. The menu had a ton of misspellings, not sure if this was intentional.

I wanted this to be Pasadena's answer to Wurstkuche, but it's really not. There's a sign out front that says order at the bar and seat yourself but then the bartender was totally jammed up and no one else greeted us or offered to help so it was weird just standing there. Lo and behold the girl standing around was a waitress and it turns out she will come to your table and take your order despite the sign. Food was ok, $8 for a hot dog sized brat and $2 extra for tots and the tots aren't anything special. I've also had better beer cheese. I will say their grapefruit infused beer blew me away, it was soooo good. My husband really dug this place because of the German beer list, but I would probably just get that grapefruit beer and nothing else.

Been here twice so far and I really enjoyed coming here for Happy Hour after work. What more can you ask for when you have good company, good beer, and food? A nice establishment to go to especially if your'e rolling through with a big group of people. Plenty of bench seating, space, as well as patio seating in the back. Everything on the menu is pretty delicious including the beers! My favorites were: - the beer cheese with pretzels which taste a little bitter but absolutely delicious - woolfstyle tator tots: which are topped off with beer cheese, pickled peppers, bacon, onion, chives -sausage plate: (reminds me sort of like a charcuterie) -pickle jar: pickled vegetables which cleansed my palette :P All are very good to share! Service is very friendly (greeted right away upon entering). I feel like you get more attention when sitting at the bar however. If you're looking to sit at the benches, be sure to go up to the bar to order your food and drinks when ready since they WILL NOT come to you!

Great selection of German beers on tap. Awesome cocktails - I recommend the dark and stormy. Their sausage and cheese platter are amazing. Music volume is awesome enough to have conversations, but you have 8 screens the watch football games (for the ladies who have men who love watching sports). If you like Karaoke, yup they have that too on certain days. I came on Thursday night and they had Karaoke night. I did mention their food is good too right?

Oooh I love the smell of a new building, it truly smells so good inside and this is definitely one of the new places to be! Now I don't live in the Pasadena area but was in town for work and a friend recommended we try out this spot. My parents are also English so please don't tell my Mum and Dad I went to a German bar! :). I arrived before my friend and took a seat at the bar and had a great chat with Craig the bar tender. He recommended a great wine and informed me about the different types of cocktails he liked. I had a Riesling wine and eventually the Dark & Stormy Cocktail which was fabulous, I love the craze of the mules right now. He also told me other spots in the area of where I should check out as I wanted to see a few areas in the Pasadena area. I came here on a Wednesday evening around 8pm, it wasn't packed but no place in Pasadena was. There were a few groups of girls, guys, couples and overall a good age range. The food menu is very traditional and they have a lot of beers on tap in addition to tasty wines and crafty cocktails!

They've been open for less than a 1/2 hour and I love the place already! Craig, the manager, was very helpful in helping me pick a drink. Starting with the Nachzehrer, prost! 2/25/15 I ended up staying at Der Wolfskopf for quite a while and enjoyed items from both the food and drink menus. The Schwarzbier (which was on the happy hour) was malty and flavorful without being heavy. I also finally tasted a Berliner Weisse with the traditional woodruff syrup- not bad! For food, I went with Craig's suggestion and tried the Nuremberg sausage (veal and pork). Since I love pretzel-anything, I switched out the potato bun for the pretzel roll. The sausages all come with your choice of tater tots or shoestring fries, so I chose the fries. Everything was delicious! I liked the little cornichons and caramelized onions that also came on the side. Be sure to try the mustards, which they make in-house. I can't wait to try more of the menu! So far, there are no happy hour deals on food but I found the prices to be quite reasonable, especially based on the quality and quantity. I can't wait to return and check out the downstairs bar when it opens, and the patio area, which has walk up ordering windows. Der Wolfskopf is off to a great start!

If I were a big fan of German beer, I might bump it up to 3 stars. The beers are well chosen and respectfully served. What was lacking was the food and the services. orders were confused and came out not to order. The pretzels were not fresh tasting (almost stale), The sausage was dry and over cooked. The kraut tasted to me like it was from a can. They did have some tasty house cured pickled veg, though, so why not do house made kraut?

I am obsessed! I came across an advertisement for this place on Blind Donkeys Instagram, and since I love BD, I thought it give it a try. I really really like that there is a security that necks IDs in the front of the building -- no roudy, annoying children, crying babies, or kids with fakes getting drunk way too fast and acting a fool lol. THANK YOU FOR HAVING A DOOR MAN! 10/10 The vibe was relaxed and dim. It's kind of like congregation as far as seating and ordering. You order at the bar, and seat yourself at picnic style benches. 10/10 Our bartender was amazing and very helpful, he works at BD also, and he's always beyond helpful there as well. 10/10 The food was..eh. I thought it was weird that the sausage came out in such a huge bun, it made the sausage look so small and awkward. The only thing it came with was a side of onions (caramelized or grilled- either way they were delicious), pickles, and your choice of shoe string fries (I recommend over the tots), and tater tots. No peppers on top or anything, kinda odd. I believe there is a lot of room for improvement here. 5/10 I like that they have barrels with board games in the middle of the walkways. Really cool touch :) Now, that downstairs bar. OMG! 100/10 That's all I'm going to say. You'll be seeing a lot more of me down there. Beautiful set up. Bravo :))))) All in all, this place is worth the stroll up past Colorado for sure. I mean really, it's about time something new opens in this area!! 10/0

Of the several beer-centric places to open in Old Town in the last few years, this is by far my favorite. Some of the beers are obscure and hard to pronounce but don't be intimidated - tell the bartender what you like (even if it's just Bud Light) and see if he or she can't recommend something German for you. And most German beers, believe it or not, are even better than Bud Light. I'm not a fan of the sausages, but the tater tots, pretzels, and the fries are very tasty.

My boyfriend and I are huge fans of Red Lion in Silverlake and when I read in a local magazine that Der Wolfskopf was opening in Pasadena, I was super stoked to check it out and see how the two compare! We decided to stop by after a movie at the Arclight around 6pm on a Friday. It was practically empty....I'm hoping it was quiet because it was the day before July 4th. Anyway, we sat ourselves and saw signs everywhere telling guests to order at the bar. To our surprise, the server came over and said she would take care of us. The service was great. I ordered a glass of German Reisling and my boyfriend ordered the Krombacher Pilsner. They were both great! For food, we decided on a couple appetizers since neither of us were super hungry so we ordered the Small Sausage Plate and the Potato Pancake (with the garlic & herb beer cheese). To our surprise, the portions were very generous- 3 potato pancakes (which were very dense) and 3 different types of sausage. The sausage plate was accompanied by pickled beets and a couple different type of cheese cubes. We couldn't even finish all of it and it made for great leftovers for breakfast the next morning! :) In end, I can't really compare this place to Red Lion, since I didn't try any of the sausages. It definitely doesn't have the same German feel to it as the Red Lion seems way more authentic. However, the food and drink was great and I will definitely come back to try the entrees! PS- there is a biergarten in the back of the restaurant, however, we didn't have the chance to venture out there. Will definitely check it out next time!

Great new bar to have in Pasadena. Went on a quiet Monday to see what it was all about. Beers and food is great. I wish I could remember what the items were called but my German sucks. I took a picture so enjoy.

What a difference a day makes. Given my negative experience yesterday, one would think that I'd not come back THE NEXT DAY, but hey, I believe that people should try everything at least three times: once to say they've tried it, twice to make sure the first experience wasn't a fluke and a third try because, some things are an acquired taste. My mother warned me that such a liberal policy would likely lead to bisexual threesomes, MDMA and mail-order beluga caviar. And leads to German gastropubs twice in 24 hours. Same great service, same great decor. But I selected much better menu items. A really good Old Fashioned coupled with a tasty eggplant schnitzel (what we Italians call eggplant parmesan.). But the real star of der wolfskopf was our bartender Raymond: gracious, charming, knowledgeable and, perhaps best of all, he makes a fine Old Fashioned. So don't let first impressions be your last. Speaking of which, fuck you Mom: eating beluga caviar while having a MMF threesome on MDMA is like, the best thing ever.

Ausgezeichnet! Great place to catch afternoon matches, chew the fat, and imbibe. Beer hall style seating and festive decor remind you of being back in Munich. If you're anything like me, you'll want to plant yourself at the bar in clear view of the big screens. While there, say hi to your German friends: Radler, Weihnstephaner hef, and Aecht schlenkerla rauchbier marzen. Don't neglect the Wolfstyle tots and the tasty soft pretzel. Prost!

So we were out having the time of our lives and haven't been out in Pasadena since 2007.... We decided to bar hop and try out two popular places. We started at Blind Donkey and then decided to go to Speakeasy. I asked the door guy at BD for directions to Speakeasy. He told us to walk to Fair Oaks and make a right and then go down the stairs. So we did. We found this awesome BAR!! The drinks we AMAZING!! The bartenders were AMAZING! The bathroom was so CLEAN!!! The next day I got an email from Speakeasy and realized that this door guy sent us to the wrong place on purpose. Lol! He sucks. BUT, in hindsight, he made our night. The Der Wolfskopf downstairs bar was AMAZING!!!!! I am kind of glad he did that to us because it was so worth it. We will be back!!

What an awesome find! Celebrated a friend's birthday here the other day and had a great time. The giant beer steins were an excellent touch, but the best part was all the games that were available (battleship, operation, etc.). It's slightly off the traditional Old Town Pasadena path which provides a different crowd. Will definitely be coming back to hang out some more.

I came here for a friend's birthday, and we had reserved a group of tables ahead of time. The bartender, a bald guy, was clearly annoyed when our party started to arrive and loudly complained that he was going to be understaffed for at least another hour, so he hoped "we wouldn't give [him] any trouble." While I was maybe the 3rd or 4th person waiting at the bar to place an order, the same bald dude proceeded to get every other person's order before mine, including my boyfriend's who was standing right next to me and asked me what I wanted, but was promptly ignored by bartender man. Did I mention I was the only lady at the counter as well? Maybe that had something to do with it... Finally, since it was a hot day, I was really thirsty and asked for a glass of water. When I finished it, I went back up and asked for refill. The same guy angrily grabbed a glass bottle of water from underneath the bar, slammed it front of me, and mumbled something about people that ask too often or something to that effect. Mind you, I had already ordered a beer, and few plates of my food, so I don't think asking for a glass of water was too much of a put out for him. It's a bummer because the beer selection was pretty great, and the food we ordered was delicious. Great pretzels and pub cheese, and tots/fries combo was a deep fried heaven in a basket. But that service and the complaining was atrocious. And absolutely no excuse for it. Dude, I'm sorry you're understaffed, but as the customer, that is not my fault. But I can alleviate future problems for you in that department by never returning, and advising my friends to avoid the establishment. Your call.

Arriving early so as to claim one of the many tables available, Der Wolfskopf offers an atmosphere of fun in the form of delicious German inspired cuisine and beers. Calling my name the moment I laid eyes on it, the Sausage Plate was my first taste of Der Wolfskopf's food. Offering three different sausages, (Cheddar Bratwurst, Chicken & Hatch Chili, and the Nuremberg), cubes of cheddar cheese, and a cornucopia of expertly pickled vegetables, this was a meal fit for anyone craving charcuterie, German style. Overall, I know Der Wolfskopf is a spot I will continue to frequent. How can one possibly say 'no' to Jenga, sausage, and beer?!

My review is solely on my visit without food or drinks (I came by to meet up with some friends for a quick chat, did not stay long) sometime in mid April. Parking: I used the parking lot across the street which was quite convenient since the place is right by the corner of fair oaks and union. At the time of my visit, it was a tad hard to spot since there wasn't really any sign, but I saw the A-sign on the ground, I figured with was something a bar would have outside their entrance -- and it was them! I was greeted at entrance and quickly found my people I was meeting up with. I was greeted and offered drinks, I refused and just had some water. My friends ordered food & drinks and it came pretty quickly. I did not stay long, but the atmosphere was very nice, the decor was very interesting. I'll update my review on drinks and food when I get a chance to come and dine. :)

The beer, the food... sausages. Oh my god. Try the sausage platter, excellent. The pickle jar appetizer ... just do it, it's excellent. June 6th is a great opening of their bier garten. Bands, food and more... I am honestly depressed that I won't be here that day. Y'all should come out, if you like German beer and food... you won't be disappointed.

I've only been here one time. But my first which was last night, they really made a good impression. After running 4 miles, came here and asked them if I could sample their dark beer. Don't remember what they're called but I do remember one beer has some smoked wood smell and taste while the other beer...well let's just say chocolate. I went with the chocolate and before I know it, I was on my 3rd beer. My group and I sat by the bar so we got our food and drinks pretty much right away. Tator tots! Possibly the best tator tots I've had...don't ask me why or how but it was just fresh. With that said, this might be in my top 3 bars to go to in Pasadena. I have 1&2 but I'm still looking for 3. Then again, I might not need #3.

Can't pronounce the name, none of the workers could pronounce the name, sort of hate the name. Makes me sound retarded saying it. DERRRRRRR. It's a cool spot. The name almost makes it sound like a serious, grown-up bar. No way. Random movies playing on the screens, long communal tables, decent beers, full bar, friendly workers, board games to nerd out to (though they should get the big boy version of Operation, not the stupid easy one). Definitely worth a visit.

Food was really good! I've had better sausage at Brats Brothers in Sherman Oaks but the tatter tots and appetizers and beer were to die for! Really really great! As far as the service goes well we had to ask the bar tender twice to get some damn utensils and ketchup. They have no servers apparently and you have to order everything at the bar and they give you a number to take to your seat. It's a very loud and large place with a very nice Biergarten in the back with its own nice bar.

One of the few places in pasadena that I enjoy. Decor is pretty awesome. Big fan of mason/wood. Bar set up is clean and appealing. Very spacious (although it wasn't too busy when we went). Large wooden benches which I feel are suitable for a group of friends while out in old town. Plenty of tv screens for those who care, and a few familiar staff from The Blind Donkey (same Ownership) Beer selection is curated very well for the food they serve. Also their cocktails seem very creative and of quality. The only thing that kind of throws me off is the process of ordering your food. There are no servers or an official area to order food. You kinda have to work your way to the bartender and order with him/her. Wasn't too hard but I can see it being an issue if the place is packed. Quality of food: I tried the veal and beef and my girlfriend had the cheddar sausage. Both were very tasty. I just found it odd that they didn't come with an option of grilled peppers or any toppings for that matter. All that comes with the serving are mini pickles and sweet (grilled?) onions, including the condiments on the table. Also the plating seems a bit awkward when you're given a decent sized sausage in a huge (but tasty) bun. Also our friendly bartender Chris mentioned to us that there is also a cocktail bar downstairs, so we decided to check it out after our meal. Wow... I must say it's probably the nicest bar I've been to in a while. Also considering that it's brand spankin new it smelled really nice and the furniture was extremely clean. Also I really enjoy underground bars. Dimly lit, great drink selection, and again with the mason/leather/wood decor combo. Very similar to the blind donkey but a bit more intimate, they're focused more on cocktails rather than strictly whiskey. Bartenders definitely have skill and knowledge in their trade. Definitely coming back!!!

My boyfriend and I were in the area to celebrate our anniversary and were staying at the Courtyard Marriott literally just a few steps away. On our way back to the hotel from dinner, we wanted to grab a drink and hang out for a bit at a bar and I remembered seeing this place. I'm so glad we stopped by ...they played 90's hip-hop, the drinks were reasonably priced and they were playing White Chicks on the TV screens. This is definitely the type of bar that my friends and I enjoy and will be back again when we're in the area.

We have had a very bad experience overall due to a couple of employees in this brand new establishment. These people were more worried about the image of the new bar than their service of their customers, which I believe is not the proper practice for an upcoming bar that JUST had the Pasadena Star News take pictures to feature an article about this place. Der Wolfskoph is not a huge club that has a dance floor that causes issues with other people, but a simple dining and drinking place for people after work and after hours. They have good bar foods and great selection of drinks. However, if you're even slightly drunk (such as an acquaintance of mine), they will NOT take care of you. They will kick you out as soon as they have your money and the opportunity This up and coming bar who wish to solidify their placement as one of the great bars of Old Town Pasadena, they're doing an extremely poor job at taking care of their customers. I STRONGLY advise against going to this bar if you want to have a great time. If you display an inch of lack of self control (I mean, who has not in the time of celebration such as the success of a company), they will kick you out with no concern of yourself. There were only TWO servers that were of help of us and continually offered us water. The other employees of this bar, however, did not share the same sympathy as these two sole employees. We will remember not the two sole employees that helped us, but the rest of the employees that were so keen on kicking all of us out to preserve their image. We will not go to this bar until it's an entirely new establishment or these set of employees have been replaced with people who know more about the hospitality needed for food and drink service. Again, I STRONGLY advise against this bar and look for more friendly bars in the more mainstream Old Town Colorado bars, as they've had more experience in being friendly towards customers.

We had a baby, and 4 of us sitting at a large patio table. The waiter brings water, and broke 5 glasses and one cut my friends hand. Any apology, no. Baby, who was sitting in a stroller, covered with a blanket was ok, thankfully. When we told the waiter that he left broken glass on the table and we could't finish our meal; he shrugged and said "I didn't spill your drinks." That's A+ for safety! The manager did say "sorry, I'll take off a beer." Just skip the place.

I've been to this place twice with some friends to just hang out and drink. Also got the chance to catch the first two games of the NBA finals here. They have a great selection of beers, and a happy hour from 4-7pm. They have these amazing Tater-Tots which are similar to In-n-Out Animal style fries, with Jalapenos. I def recommend them. My only knock against this place is that they don't turn on the sound for the Televisions. You have to watch the games on mute with subtitles. But other than that, it's a nice place.

A buddy of mine heard in an internet article that this place, Der Wolfskopf, opened up in the last week so a couple friends and I went to check out it. First, I would like to say that as of when we visited Saturday, upon first glance, I wasn't sure we were at the right place - meaning that we didn't see much of a sign or anything saying that it was Der Wolfskopf. That being said, once we got inside, all the bartenders were super enthusiastic. Greeting the group for example and handing out menus. The menus were useful since most (all) of us are not experts in German beers. It does seem like they had a good size menu and the prices seem reasonable for the most part. And a fun little tid bit - Order the liter, you get it in a really sturdy hardcore glass. I didn't get one last time and regretted it after seeing the glass, so I will be indulging in that experience next time. The atmosphere definitely felt like an old school German establishment. The main room is beautiful. I liked it a lot. The tables are large and bench style and they have cool dim vintage chandeliers. The bathrooms could have been a little cleaner though. I was a little perplexed by this given that we got there relatively early, and that it was a very quiet night - i.e. the place wasn't full - probably because rain kept people home. They also have a cool stage in the corner which I assume means that they will have live music in the future. I'm sure we will definitely come back and give it another shot in the near future. It seems like since this is their first week, that maybe not everything is quite in sync yet. But I assume that in the next week or so, things will all come together. I'm giving Der Wolfskopf 3 stars, will some room for improvement, and if I have a different experience next time, I will update the review :). Cheers!

my friends and i were drinking at this establishment... my friend (a 90lb girl) had a little too much to drink, and wasn't feeling well, so the manager guy came by and told her she couldn't do that... and then left the table...i asked her if she was okay to walk back to our office, and she said 'no'. she then went to the bathroom and on her return, the manager brought a huge bouncer to kick out this girl who wasn't feeling well after drinking there for a good 2-3 hours... i told them she just wasn't feeling well, and they still insisted that she leave... i told them 'that's not right' especially since 'they' were the ones serving her... the bouncer replied 'she should have known better'. i just feel the lack of concern for a patron is totally unjustified at this establishment and will not return to support a place like this!

A nice beer house atmosphere- pretty laid back. Good selection of German beer with some California as well. The sausage menu is varied but not too exotic. Get the pretzels too!

"The Wolf head"... I usually don't give good reviews. If I don't review a place that means I was happy with it. So if I reviewed a place It wasn't a good experience. However, The Wolf head is new and without doubt my favorite watering hole! I'm very particular about my drink and the staff here nailed it every time! The food is really good and savory! Bottom line, you can't go wrong coming here. Unless, you go to the Blind Donkey on Union, another fave! Cheers!

Went here last Thursday and was disappointed to find that none of the appetizers were discounted for happy hour. There were only three beers on happy hour special, along with well drinks. I had the Hef and the dark of the three, and they were great. It was very quiet and slow until about 6:30... I had read about the tater tots on here, so I tried the regular ones and was disappointed with how bland they were. I don't think they had any seasoning beyond lightly salted. If you're going to get their tots, get them with beer cheese, and expect to pay about $10 for an appetizer. Yes, even during happy hour. Later, I had the kielbasa and shoestring fries. Very good, though the bun seemed large, and I'm not sure a sausage and fries are worth $12. This place seems to have an identity crisis. It appears torn between wanting to be fancy, and wanting to be a casual gastropub (they even have games like Connect Four). I even heard they are working on an "exclusive" cocktail bar in the basement that won't be open to the general public. Don't think I'll be going back.

This is a great German bar! It's got a great place to take a date or for a nice night with friends! Their beer cheese is amazing and it matched perfectly with their vast beer selection! I definitely recommend this place!

I want to be a fan.... I love German food. So I called ahead to make sure they had sausage, as rumor had it they had run out over the weekend. The person on the phone said yes, they had sausage. We drive to Der Wolfskopf, and the first thing we order is the Sausage and Cheese platter... They're out! Aaahhh! We quickly scan the rest of the menu, as we only have 2 minutes to order food, they stop serving food at 10pm. We settle for the Bratwurst on potato buns and a Polish Sausage on potato buns with french fries. Both sausage buns were good, as were the Pretzels, but were not a fan of pretzels with nacho cheese sauce for dipping. Just give us good old fashion mustard to dip our Pretzels. I was hoping to enjoy Potato Pancakes, or Bratwurst with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, purple cabbage, Schnietzel.......Maybe these items are too authentic for Der Wolfskopf? I'll come back in a few months, as they have only been open for 6 days. Hopefully thing will get ironed out. This location is very close to where I live, and the Germany beer selections are very good. And ther service seem to be very hospitable and courteous. Best of Luck to you Der Wolfskopf. I'm still craving my Potato Pancakes, Sauerkraut, Purple cabbage and Schnietzel.

First time visiting this location , it was awesome to start. The decoration is nice. The food : i ordered Bavarian Nuremberg which was to say delicious. I had two toppings on it which was the grilled onions and the peppers. Let's just say i'll be back again. I got the tator tots (wolfstyle) which is with Beer cheese, pickled peppers, caramilized onions, and bacon and chives. So good. Could not finish them because i was stuffed. I had the waitress pick out a beer for me. It was a nice light beeer. As far as the atmosphere it was nice , theyvhad live entertainment which he was singing great songs. Ill be back again thats for sure.

This new addition to old town Pasadena is a much needed no frills watering hole. My husband and I had our weekly date night last night and decided to check out the two newest businesses in the area, Der Wolfskopf was our first stop. We sat at the bar upstairs or shall I say street level, unbeknownst to us there is also a Rathskeller. Which we learned of after chatting with the door man while out for a smoke. We ordered a round of beverages, the house old fashion for me and the same for my hubs. In the Rathskeller I had a mule that was topped with small flowers. They offer sausages, traditional German varieties topped with your choice of traditional toppings. I had to go for the bratwurst with everything. The sausage was awesome, the bun soft and tasty, and it was topped with the the perfect amount of sauerkraut, onions and peppers. This is a cool place to meet up for drinks and spend some time talking over great cocktails and or beers. While talking to the bartender he informed us that they are working on opening a beer garden/patio out back, hopefully before the long lazy days of summer arrive. I can see this being a great place to celebrate Oktoberfest. I also love the fact it's so much closer to home than say the red lion. I can't wait to see how this establishment evolves!

I had just heard about this new German gastropub in Pasadena so I wanted to try its happy hour! It is a pretty chill place. I like the open setting of it with the German flags and two big screen TV's. We ordered beer and sausage plates which were really good. I had a lighter beer (it had a really difficult German name) and my friend ordered a darker beer. I had the Oak Smoked Beer Bratwurst on a potato bun which was super yummy! The caramelized onions and the pickles on the side were a nice touch. My friend had the spatzle mac as an appetizer and the classic frankfurter with fries, which also looked pretty good. The happy hour prices and service were also great! Overall, it is a cool place to sit and enjoy a great German meal paired with a nice beer! I will definitely be coming back!

This is a neat place - good beer, good food - on a low-visibility street. I didn't know it was here until somebody recommended it; I'm glad they did. Neat and unusual offering - last time I was there they had grapefruit beer. Of course they had plenty of normal options too. But I'd had this before as an import and it was really pleasant... ... cool place. I'll be back for sure.

I love this place. As a Pasadena native whom LOVES German beers this was perfect. I grew up in Pasadena and I hate the bars around old town. This bar opened up and a couple friends and I have come, I also come here almost ever week for happy out with a coworker. The staff is awesome, they already know us and our drinks of choice, so they serve us with out us asking. 5 stars all around. also check out the rathskeller! GREAT artwork all around.

german brauhaus in Pasadena yes please... This place was classicly what I expected except they didnt have an oompah band =( I can just imagine doing the chicken dance or hearing Ziggy Zag Ziggy Zag and the crowd thundering back Oi Oi Oi! to the call of the vocalist... The ceilings, selection of beers, long communal tables, this is what i want when I think of a bavarian hot spot. I am stoked its in pasadena. my friends had some of their grub and enjoyed it. i just had the beer. Pro Tip: Make sure to check your bill as not all of the beers ring up properly... I was overcharged but they fixed it quickly promptly and with an apology. The bartenders were johnny on the spot and happy to help. I definitely enjoyed the opportunity to come here on a Monday Funday with a bunch of my friends. They also have a bunch of HH specials and you can get a litre stein for $14! *YUM* Maybe I will see you here one day... And yeah they have a full bar, but I view this place as a beer hall!

My girl and I decided to get out for a few hours and wanted to try something new. Pasadena was always so off we went to check out Der Wolfskopf. Right away we were blown away by the atmosphere of historic decor. Walls are covered in hand painted Murals that gives you that pub feel. We had kale salad which was very fresh, the classic frankfurter and a chicken schnitzel and there is sauerkraut me high is very good. The food was incredible accompanied by an array of delicious beers. Definitely have to go back and try more beers and things on the menu. This is a great place for drinks, food and fun.

Oh, Der Wolfskopf. You enticed me with your German beers, your tots and your secret underground bar. We went to Der Wolfskopf last night with a group of 10. They were super accommodating and nice. Great customer service! I emailed back and forth with someone and he was awesome. Anywho, beers = awesome, tasty and delicious. I personally enjoyed the ones I got in the big beers steins. Those were my favorite. Food = delicious. We had the sausage and cheese plate, the tots, the tots smothered in deliciousness, the pickle jar and....I can't remember what else. But it was all great! Those tots though... Oh and they have board games. Add board games to anything and it instantly makes it like 10x better. After dinner we went to the bar downstairs. It was super low key and awesome. We took over this giant booth and had our own little party. Great drinks! Nice bartenders! And funny bouncers! I will definitely come back here!

So Wurstkuche has always been one of my staples. Now Der Wolfskopf is quickly becoming my go to German spot to get my sausage and beer fix. Been there 3 times since opening night. Honestly one of the reasons why I am liking it even more than Wurstkuche is that it is much closer to me. Oh and not only do they have an amazing selection of german beers but they also have liquor which Wurstkuche in downtown does not. I don't drink liquor, beer is my poison but many of my friends only drink liquor which leaves Wurstkuche out for them :( . No more lonely nights at wurstkuche for me. LOL. I have had 3 of their sausages and they have all been delicious. I have had the perfectly crunchy tater tots every time as well. YUM! Love this place so far!!!!! I also overheard that they are opening a speakeasy type bar in the basement sometime in March, how cool is that? Can't wait for Oktoberfest! Like Arnold says "I'll be back". :)

This place is new. How new? They don't even have a sign. I hope you're comfortable with barging into places in blind faith that it's the place you're looking for. This location used to be that bar (forgot what it was called) that was frequented by dudes with backwards baseball caps and flannel shirts. Now it's been "downtown-ified." Drinks: A pretty solid place to get beers. They also have beer steins the size of tank shells. When in Germany... Food: Their communal food is pretty good, like their loaded tater tots. However, their sausages are a quite pricey for what you get. It's pretty much a sausage in a bun. That's it. I hoped it'd be like Wurstkuche where they at least slather toppings on it, but nope. Der Wolfskopf is definitely not a date place. It's more of a place you grab a group of your friends for beer talk because the tables are very...communal. If your group doesn't take up the whole table, then you're most likely going to be joined by strangers.

My husband and I stopped in last week to try the new German place in town. We ordered the pretzels and beer cheese, Black Forest ham sandwich, and beer brat. Everything was really tasty and the service was great. I'm sure this place will be hopping on the weekends, but for a mid-week dinner we had fast and friendly service. I will definitely be back!

Great beer Haus. German and so on. Also, there's a brandy bar downstairs. Check it out. User friendly and if you're lucky enough to have Marnie as your bartender, ask about Canada and treat her well. She'll take care of you!!

Great beers and love the open space feel. #14 is a very aromatic smoked beer. #17 is a solid sour beer. #10 is fruity, #12 a syrupy dark beer

There we are at home on Sunday and Anthony Bourdain is on TV having schnitzel. Wife says "I kinda want some schnitzel" so off I go to yelp and start the search. Found Der Wolfskopf right here in Pasadena (I figured we'd have to go to hipstertown to find the goods). We headed over, so happy it was close to home! The beer selection was great and they also have a nice little scotch collection going on - though the pours on the good stuff are pricey, so we'll probably stick to pre-game action with our own collection...but I digress. We got a couple of beers (don't recall the name, but it was good). I went with the chicken schnitzel sandwich with regular tots - it was soooooo good! It had this perfect lemon taste to it and the pretzel bun was great! She got the cheddar brat loaded up with a pretzel on the side - it was also very good! We can't wait to go back for more! Lots of TV selections that would be great during football season. Apparently they have bands in there, so that would be fun to check out. the only slight knock would be the air conditioning - it was a bit of a hot/muggy evening and further back in the place, the air circulation was lacking, so it was pretty warm. I just hope this venue stays open - been in pasadena 11 years and this spot has probably been 4-5 different bars/pubs.

I came here with a group of friends and went up to the bar. The Irish bartender not only let me sample 3 different beers, but gave excellent recommendations on what was available. Plus, when we went out for a smoke, we came back to our table and our beers were gone! He replaced them without a question. Try this place out! This place is definitely a welcome addition to Pasadena.

I've been here twice in just as many days, and the place is awesome! Their selection of German beer is unparalleled in Pasadena, and great happy hour deals on it, too. This spot has a fantastic atmosphere and plenty of seating. A new gem in Pasadena. Try the Der Wolfstyle Tots & Fries; I'm you won't be disappointed.

Checked this place out with a few friends on a weekday night. It's still pretty new and wasn't very busy so the bartender just told us to let him know when we were ready to order and we chose a table to sit at. (All the tables are long family-style picnic tables so I imagine as it gets busier you'll be sitting with people you may not know - just an fyi) We ordered some German pretzels and some sausages. The pretzels had a cheese sauce that the whole table loved and the sausages were super yummy. Especially the spicy kielbasa. Sausages were a bit overpriced in my opinion (~$13 for a sausage and a tiny bit of fries) but I guess it could be worse. The beer menu was extensive and although I don't drink beer - my friends said the ones they tried were very good. I'll definitely go back to this place. Food was good and atmosphere was very laid back. Bravo and congrats on the new opening!

Biergarten! Lovely alley courtyard with all brick buildings surrounding you + drinking outdoors with pups! What more can I say?? I hear their sausages are great, but haven't tried yet. You can bring cocktails from Rathskeller out here. Can't wait to spend some lazy afternoons this summer hanging with friends here!

3.5 stars rounding up to 4. Went on a Friday night, pretty hard to find since there isn't a sign out front. Overall the vibe is exactly what it says, dimly lit, pretty loud like a normal pub. Drinks are pretty normal, nothing extraordinary came to my attention, I got the grapefruit beer which was pretty light. My friends ordered the other beers and an old fashion which they thought were pretty decent as well. Food-wise, they are pretty much the same as Doghaus, sausages, fries and tots. I thought it was pretty cool with the variety of sausages they offered, pretty unique there. Overall, don't think I will go back but definitely a good place to try if you're looking for a german pub vibe.

We came here because of a bar tender's referral from Slaters 50/50. The place is brand new, still in its opening stages, but it is great! I love the dim lighting, loft sort of feeling, with a splash of class. They have weihenstephan beer (which is really rare and taste great). Also Ray is an awesome bartender!

Cool bar in Pasadena. We celebrated our friends birthday here. The sausage and cheese plates were really tasty and they have a nice selection of beer. The AC was broken the evening we were there we made it terribly hot but otherwise a cool place. Nice downstairs bar with booths.

My first visit was OK, but they had issues with service speed/attentiveness. They might still be hiring servers since they just opened. Pros: + Interesting menu. The selection of German beers is very good. They have some German beers here I've never seen on a menu before (or for sale at Bevmo, etc). + The rolls were fresh and not as dry as they looked. + The sausage selection was good, although I would appreciate an explanation for what all the different sausage types are. What is a "Nuremberg," for instance? Cons: - Prices are a little high on the beers and appetizers. Pretzels and cheese are $10, and the pint beers all seem to start at $7, which is around 25-30% higher than their competition in the local area. The liters for ~$14 are a decent deal, but only if you care to drink that much beer in one sitting. - The big squeeze bottles of mustard are already getting greasy, as everyone touches them as they're eating (with tater tot fingers). I can imagine these getting gross pretty quickly. - The main dining hall is insanely loud with a full house. They really need some sound deadening material in here, currently it's just a rectangular brick echo chamber and it's very difficult to even hear the person sitting across from you. - They appeared to be very short staffed for a Friday night. I counted a few bartenders, but only one server (and one manager, I think) working the whole dining hall, so it took around 15 minutes to be able to place our order, and It's hard to tell if you should take a seat and wait for a server to come take your order, or if you're supposed to pester the bartenders to take your order and give you a number to sit down. I will try this place again, I just hope they're able to hire enough servers to satisfactorily manage a full house.

Chicken & Hatch Chile Sausage & Lobo Chicken w/Mango chutney were super flavorful. Pretzels weren't top-rated, but extensive German Beer selection makes up for it. Very tasty toys! Looking forward to craft cocktails downstairs -- opening tomorrow. No flights, but tastes can be accommodated before committing to a pint or stein.

If you are wanting to have a great time and great drinks come here! Their selection of German beer is unlike any other I've seen. Downstairs is the Rathskeller,. It has a more lounge type atmosphere, very chill, great for groups, and our bartenders were so accommodating! I will definitely be coming back!!

Wow! Awesome new bar. It's got something for everyone. The German theme with a--mazing food will keep us coming back -- personal favorites the spaetzel and cheese (like mac n cheese), Bavarian pretzels with beer cheese and the variety of sausages--hmmm....the list could go on. And who could have better German beers! Can't wait until the outside bar is open too. Oktoberfest should be amazing! Jeff and Michele E.

    (5)
  • Riley L.

For a German pub, the selection of German beer is significantly small compared to the other beers. Friendly and knowledgeable staff makes the place a regular place for me.

  • Paul G.

I find it pretty interesting that your a German beer hall and your serving nachos and a poor excuse for a sausage platter. The interior of your location looks great I'll give you that but why are you serving fancy cocktails. Seriously??? I've been to real German restaurants and I don't remember seeing anyone order an apple martini. If you're going to go with the German beer hall theme I think you should redo your menu and add more beers. If you need help please let me know because it's apparent your a little lost. And if you are German than you should be ashamed that you put nachos on your menu and you chose to serve hot dogs and call the bratwursts. You get 2 stars for the nice decoration of the place but that's it.

Let me start by saying this place is BEAUTIFUL! You can really tell that this place was built with passion. The ambiance initially won me over. It for some reason reminds me of a speakeasy, but a classier, more intimate one. The food is delicious, and the portion sizes are good. Great type of drunk food. THEY HAVE TATER TOTS. Went there for Happy Hour, and the prices are awesome. DID I MENTION THE TOTS. Pros: -Wide selection of beer -roomy -big booths -2 bars, LOVE THIS! I was able to get my drinks fast -Friendly service, good looking employees.. yes. i said that. Cons: Eventually closes. Wish I could have stayed there all night.

We just found this place and we love it. We will be going back often. They have a fabulous happy hour with many great beers. And the food was outstanding. We both ordered sausages on a bun with all of the fixings, fries, and a pretzel. It was all so good. And the servers were all fabulous. We had three different people working behind the bar and all of them were very friendly and helpful. It's definitely one of our new favorite places.

Fabulous happy hour ($4 well drinks until 7pm) with fresh and high quality ingredients (like luxardo cherries) . The main part of the restaurant feels really inviting and has sports playing on the TV. On weekends, the basement bar has specialty cocktails and a more clubby feel, and is a welcome getaway from the main drag of generic old town hangouts.

The service sucked, some of the workers seem not happy to be working there, and were kind of bitchy while serving us, but their music, appetizers n jinga made mine n my friends night we had so much fun after a few drinks ofcourse everything changes, I went there once I live in Pasadena n I really wanted to go back, so I did but I idk if I'll go again after the service provided, the 5 stars is due to drinks, jinga n appetizers..

This place is great! Came here Tuesday with some friends because I heard they were having a few special menu items for St. Patrick's day. My friends and I had such a great time! The food was delicious and the drinks were right on point! I love what the new owners did with the place! I used to come here 15 years ago when it was the old McMurphy's. This place is roomy with lots of potential, including a secret downstairs bar and large outside patio. The waitresses are friendly and helpful as well as the bartenders. A+ guys! Great job!!

Well done and more to come. Yes there are some kinks to work out but the place has only been open for a week. The food is great, beer selection is amazing and staff is figuring it out... can't teach someone German overnight after all. None of the negative reviews I've read are things not easily fixed and I'm sure the ownership is all over it based on this groups success. I can't wait to see where they take Der Wolfskopf and can't wait to go back and try the rest of what they have to offer.

I went on a Friday night and it wasn't ridiculously packed, which I liked. I expected a larger beer selection. I made the mistake of drinking their grapefruit beer which was not very good. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable, however so it was still an enjoyable experience!

Only had two beers here as part of a pubcrawl. I'm a sucker for German beerhalls so this hits the spots for me. If I was smarter I would've ordered the liter of beer instead of getting two pints. They play fun movies on the TV (it was Drunken Master last night, appropriate) but that may be too distracting.

Really disappointed , ouch. Friday night first week opening the waiter took forever and place half empty. No sausage plate, no pretzels no kartoffelpuffers no pickles because apparently they did so good on opening day they ran out! No live music... Anyways Very bad first impression for a German beer hall lover!

I was pretty dissapointed in this place. We traveled from pretty far away to have a fun night in Pasadena and try this new restaurant. We got there early on a weekday, so I'll give them credit for just setting up and not having to deal with a crowd, but our waitress was horrible! I wish I knew her name to call her out, because the rest of the staff seemed kind. There are just a few tiny things they could do to make this place awesome! The food was really good. Except they don't serve saurkraut.. at a German restaurant?? So weird. If the staff dressed in German outfits and played some simple German music, this place would be so much better!

    (2)
  • Jessica G.

This place was a disappointment. It was overpriced. The menu selections were sparse. And what German-ish restaurant does not have sauerkraut? It was also extremely loud. Music blaring as well as various TVs blaring. Not pleasant. The seating was also not comfortable. Think large wooden tables with hard wooden benches. Inexplicably, it was also very crowded. So expect to share a table sitting very close to strangers.I was excited to check this place out as I love German food, but this was just a glorified and overpriced sausage place with loud music and beer. And tater tots. I kid you not.

Me and my wife, took the night off and went to this bar. It was nice and clean. The barkeep was excellent. Good beer selection. Great German beer. I tried 4 different German pils and lager. All good. The food was tasty. Just wished the sausage, the smoked frankfurter was bigger. The bread overwhelmed it. Raise the price by a buck and make the frank bigger. Please add sauerkraut!!!

So disappointing! First night here on the first week of opening and they're out of pretzel & sausage!!!??? The 2 main things on the menu. I doubt I will be back
