This place was quite the pleasant surprise! We came here on our way back from a wedding and it was exactly what we needed. Huge, juicy burgers and amazing fries to go with. This place fulfilled the burger craving and kept us full for the next four hour drive in traffic. The setup is reminiscent of Smash Burger, if you've ever been, and has really cool lighting fixtures I wouldn't mind for myself! Will be back if we're ever in the area.

Love . I had the pretzel burger with chicken, sooo good! It was extremely messy because of the BBQ sauce oozing from the sides, but I didn't care at all because of how good it was so my hands smelled like BBQ for the next hour. I had to get some extra pickles on the side after trying them on my burger, and let me tell you that's a lot coming from me considering I have never been a fan of dill pickles. Sweet potato fries were nice and crispy. All in all, everything seemed fresh and tasted great, and the staff was friendly!

If it's your first time here this is how it works: walk in grab menu from left side wall near door, have a seat take a look at what you want then proceed to the front/bar area to order meal, they will then give you a buzzer to take back to your table and bring out your food ( mentioned due to how confused hubby and I were entering ). Now on to the food...only a selection of 4 burgers. We had "Maui burger" & "hickory burger" both were very tasteful! On the small side so don't come here expecting a red robin or carls jr $6 burger in size. Also you must order fries separate, no combos here! Basically for me this is more of a lunch joint!

I ordered the Hickory Burger (6$) and it was huge and bursting with flavors! Definitely would order that again. Also shared some fries with a friend and that was nice and crispy too. Was not disappointed. The atmosphere was cute and casual - nice restaurant for a casual date or just grapping a quick bite. Very clean. Small selection of beers and wine on tap but they had shock top so that's all I care about! Worth a try.

Love the Hawaiian Burger, it is so delicious! The staff at this location is beyond friendly and attentive.

Hook burger is awesome!! We love Hook burger!!! Even my parrot loves them. He goes to town on their burgers. He eats the meat and not just the bread with them. We both love their salads. They have amazing Ranch dressing and I don't like Ranch dressing.

(Dined 10/26/13 SA @ 4:00pm): I could get hooked on this joint! Hook Burger Bistro was recommended after a day of wine tasting with my coworker, her husband, and her sister as we needed something to grub on before we headed home. I'd never heard of them - and apparently there's a closer location in Burbank - but they've got my attention! Parking was easy, so we lumbered in quickly, eagerly perused the thin laminated menu, and I ordered thusly: 16-oz Draft Shock Top ($4.75) - As much as I needed water to hydrate myself, I decided to hit up one of my favorites to go with my meal; just seemed more appropriate with a burger. This cold one went down beautifully on this hot day - ahhh! yelp.com/user_local_phot… [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 4.5 of 5 STARS] Onion Rings ($3.25) - Delivered in a conical container, it magically seemed that the smaller rings were at the bottom point and the larger ones at the top opening - ingenious! Lightly golden-brown, crispy but not crunchy, hot but not scalding, when you bit into each one the onion wouldn't pull out...these were simply lovely even though they were standard yellow onions. This cornucopia felt endless as ring after ring appeared as I dug my hand into it. yelp.com/user_local_phot… Hickory Burger ($6.25) - First ingredient listed was "thick cut bacon" so I was sold! Also included were homemade crispy onions, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and mayo all covered with Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce. I couldn't believe my wine-goggled eyes when I saw how stacked this behemoth of a burger was in all its gluttony glory; I had to smash it down to a manageable size. Each bite was a juicy mouthful as the patty was a perfect medium-well. The BBQ sauce mixed well with the crispy onions. But my one disappointment was the lack of thick cut bacon. It was there but not very thick and I wished there more strips of it. yelp.com/user_local_phot… Service - Only a couple people were here so we stepped right up to the counter, placed our order with a young woman, and a short time later our food was delivered to our table. Our trays were cleared away soon after they were empty. But overall, it was really hands-off since it really wasn't necessary. Parking - There was plenty of free parking since they were located in an outdoor shopping center. "Nuff said. Atmosphere, décor, ambience - The façade was nothing special and actually was like all outdoor mall restaurants these days, while the inside felt dark and warm with its brick walls and wooden floors. Although spacious, they managed to cram as many tables and chairs as possible with just enough room between each. However, I believed there also was an outdoor patio. Several framed pictures and posters hung on the walls that broke-up the dark bricks and wood motif. Plenty of electric lighting hung from the ceiling and natural lighting easily shown through the glass walls. I noticed a couple TVs once you entered but no background music. Attire - It was totally casual so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, be gentle with me Hook Burger Bistro, as you've caught this big fish with the right kind of bait. They had a real simple menu, the food tasted great, and after I researched them when I got home, I discovered they were completely environmentally friendly as they used the freshest of ingredients, used reclaimed recycled materials whenever possible, and all about sustainability. I had no problem with any of this. I found excellent value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total experience was around $16.00 before tip), and again, wonderful food all for an inexpensive price. And, although I didn't pay (thank you, Sharon!), they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!

Hook Burger was the perfect, late lunch stop on our drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. It was affordable, fast, and delicious! Between the table, we tried the Turkey Burger, Veggie Burger, and Hickory Burger. Everyone really enjoyed their burger choices, as they were good sizes, with fresh toppings and great flavors. We each ordered sides of french fries - which could have easily been split - the portions were huge! They were also piping hot and fresh when they arrived to our table. For dessert, I had to try the Strawberry Cheesecake Shake. It wasn't the best shake I've ever had, but was still really good. Hook Burger is also centrally located, with plenty of shopping if you need to pick anything up, or just want to browse. Highly recommended by me!

Great food. My family came here starving and were not disappointed. The hickory burger was tasty but the fries and onion rings were our favorite. The milkshakes were also outstanding. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good burger and fries.

This place is delish! My bistro burger was so tasty and the Oreo milkshake was heaven. My kids loved their meals and so did I because I kept digging in their plates.... Everything was good! Fries, sweet potato fries, chicken, shakes, onion rings, and burgers! We will be back ASAP. The staff was also really nice!

We were out of town looking for a yummy burger when we saw this place. It was very fancy inside but the prices were right. The sweet potato fries are super yum-crispy with a sprinkle of sugar and the onion rings hd an amazing crunch! I had a burger with bacon and crispy onion strings with Bbq sauce on an amazingly fresh bun. The servers were always available to refuel drinks or bring extra sauce. I hope to visit here again!

Excellent veggie (black bean) burger, which can be ordered vegan, and excellent seared ahi sandwich! Outstanding onion rings, and outstanding proactive service staff!

The prime burger, hickory bbq burger, & the trio(onion rings, French fries, & sweet potatoes) are all so good!! We definitely will come here next time! 5 stars! *thumbs up*!!

Love this burger joint! The people working there are so very nice, the food is freaking phenomenal. I love their strawberry cheesecake milkshake, sooo good. I usually always get the Maui burger. It is very crispy and the bbq sauce makes it even better. Their prices are reasonable, a little bit more expensive than your regular burger joint but worth every penny!

Nice Upgrade Like Carl's Jr., you walk in order and get your table number and find your seat. Unlike Carl's, they have leatherette seats and a rustic feel. They even have an old replica US flag that was way cool. Got the Hickory Burger, $6.50 + fries $2.50. No options on the length of cooking on the burger, all come medium. Upgraded ingredients and bun gave them a winner. Now time to compare. Carl's Jr. $6 burger: This is far superior, not even close. However, the $6 burger is bigger, so if your only desire is to get full, then go to Carl's. Umami: Went there today, just to solidify my opinion. Unfortunately, the TO location tripped today. But, still their burger is superior. However, it is $11 and smaller. Same bun, same desire to use great ingredients. So, do you want to eat 2 burgers for $13 or only 1 for $11 and go home hungry at that? For me, I'll be back, skipping by the both of them.

I had heard of Hook Burger but had never tried it. Since I'm always up for a good burger, a visit was a must. Since I happened to be in the area anyway, I stopped in. The wait was short and I found a table quickly. I ordered the Hickory Burger and a large Diet Coke (no fries. This sugar-challenged guy doesn't need all those carbs). My food arrived, hot and ready to eat. The burger was tasty and not very messy. Of course I ordered it without a lot of the slop that can come on a burger. I liked the shoestring onions that came on the burger. I don't usually spend much over about $7-8 for lunch; this lunch was out the door for just under $10. Very reasonable considering what you get. I'll definitely be back to try something else.

We got the BBQ Chicken salad (see picture) and Roasted Chili Burger (see picture) BOTH meals get 5 stars - I tend to rate burgers higher by the number of napkins required to consume one!!! This one took 7 - do the math!!! Very tender, perfectly cooked and tasted like a ground sirloin - fresh and beefy! The salad had the right ratio of chicken to lettuce and other veggies - they have it right here! Great, cheerful service, great food and atmosphere.............. Now if we could find some way out of paying 10% sales tax on these meals you would have something! Time to google "states without sales tax"!!!

This is our first time here at the Oxnard location. We are a family of 4. You get to pick your own burger and order it then sit anywhere you like. It is Delicious!!! We had the Turkey Burger, Prime Burger, Kids Petite Burger & the Hickory Burger. We all tried each others burgers. Everything from the fresh Toasted Buns to the fresh toppings to the yummy seasoned meat of your choice tasted so good!!! Everyone here is so friendly and Alex our waiter that brought our food was so sweet and attentive. He kept on coming by to make sure we had everything we needed and would refill our drinks and brink more dipping sauces. This is a Great place with delicious burgers!!! You must try it!!!

2 of my girlfriends and I were here last Monday for lunch. The wait staff are always friendly and attentive to our needs and we always get a smile...they seem to genuinely love their job which makes for a very pleasant atmosphere We ordered the veggie burgers and as usual they were perfection! The grilled black bean patties were so flavorful and all the fresh veggies were a perfect touch with the chipotle mayo ...my all time favorite burger I must say.! We also ordered onion rings which were cooked to a delightful golden crispness. 5 stars all around! The only drawback I can speak of is sometimes the music is a tad too loud but not so much it would stop us from returning THANKS HOOK for a wonderful meal.

Was so not in the mood for a burger, so I was going to get a salad, but I kept looking at everyone else's burger and I knew I had to get one. Got the veggie burger and I couldn't put it down. Pretzel bread is genius. The burger was tasty. The fries (sweet potato and reg were great). Everyone was very friendly and I would def recommend coming here.

Friendly people, clean and comfortable atmosphere and most important of all best burger I've had thus far. Fries, shakes all so good.

Okay, I know I use the word "love" a lot, but when I do, I MEAN IT! Hook Burger is fantastic. Outstanding burgers, ALWAYS smiling/attentive service, and a clean, spacious facility. I always order the Maui Burger in a lettuce wrap (a little more paleo and it lets you savor the teriyaki sauce better), with a side of sweet potato fries. I usually order a water but they also have beer and milkshake selections. Check it out!

I consider myself a Burger-Connoisseur and I think they're were pretty damn good. It was my first time here, and I've never heard of them before. My honest opinion: The prices are fair, the quality was very good, the presentation was good and the service was friendly. My only complaints are that the fries were over-cooked. They tasted like In-N-Out fries. If you don't eat them right away, they get dry real fast. I would have liked the option of how I wanted my meat cooked (like Red Robin). I like my meat with pink in the middle and this one was probably a perfect "medium" (no pink) I'm sure if I ask next time, they can cook the meat and fries to my liking, but I didn't know.... One other thing. The music was TOO LOUD :) Background music is nice, but it was up too high. Overall, this place has a great burger and I would definitely eat there again!

As a first timer, I found the ordering process standing at the noisy bar with TVs blaring, really stressful and hurried. The order taker, who was not the least bit cordial or helpful, hurried me through the process, shouting over the loud TVs. She couldn't have cared less that the menu was confusing to me and if I don't like all the specialty items in and on the burgers, how do I get one I like? Can I build my own? There so not list of items available. There are about six burgers, all with several things I don't like on each one. So without help, I ordered the Prime Burger with cheese, no onions and plain mayo, rather than honey dejon mayo that it comes with. It arrived with onions and the dejon mustard. The personable wait staffer took it back, promptly letting me know they took the onions off and gave me a new bun. Really? So the re arrived meat was cold, dry and this time no mayo at all. I didn't love the burger at all. Hubby's Hickory Burger fared better and he had no complaints. The experience would never warrant a repeat visit. The order process is really unpleasant. If your job is to take orders, for goodness sake, take some time to help a new client through the difficult menu. My recommendation: The front line is your first impression-get someone who cares and finds value in the customer and their experience. I do however commend the door greeter for her pleasant welcoming.

Great customer service that's why I keep coming back. Just today my LO dropped a pack of wipes (not a big deal) and one of the guys ran after us make sure we got them.

When you are ready to get out of your car and stop going to the drive thru then hit this place up. It's well worth the Dine In experience. Tasty Burgers and great side options. They have beer people! Burgers and Beer!!! Oh, and probably the best Onion Rings in Ventura County!

    (4)
  • Blanca O.

their customer service is so on point. And these kids are young and so polite and courteous it's like a rarity these days. Many can have a great burger, and this place does. But no as many these days have such great customer service kudos to management.

This place is AMAZING. We had been driving around looking for a place to eat and found Hook Burger on Yelp. The hostess/cashier was super friendly and pleasant. We ordered the Prime Burger, the Hickory Burger and a side of onion rings and fries, and 2 drinks. First off, the prices- I paid $25.00 for all that! I expected small portions for that price but the burgers were huge and the sides of onion rings and fries were perfect for sharing. Next, the food- both of the burgers were excellent but the Hickory Burger was exceptionally delicious. I knew when I read "Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce" that it was going to be a home run. The fries were good but the onion rings were better. They weren't the typical onion rings at a burger place that look like they came frozen in a package. These looked fresh and tasted like it too. Another plus was the fact that they bought us a side of ranch and offered to bring more- unlike most places when you ask for ranch they act like it's going to come out of their paycheck! Overall, this place is great. We loved everything about it!

  • Renee M.

If I break down and eat a burger, this will be the place!! It's just one of those meals you know you probably shouldn't complete but it's so damn good. The pricing is fair. My only complaint is the ordering at the counter, it feels rushed.

  • Jonathan R.

Awesome and quick service. One of the best burger places i have been to. It is definately worth the price. Even after closing hours, they have even taken my order to go over the phone while i ran a quick errand and it was ready by the time i had gotten there. Love this place! BBQ bacon Bourbon burger is the besr!

I am a CLEAN eater but have came here more than 3x now for a cheat meal. I always get the hickory burger and that Oreo shake they sell there. Honestly dream about it sometimes! Lol I really appreciate customer service and I have to say this place probably has the besttttttt customer service I have ever experienced next to trader joes and that says A LOT lol.

This was our first time at Hook Burger and we are 100% satisfied! The burgers are so fresh and delicious! Onion rings are amazing.. and customer service couldn't have been better. Definitely happy with our Hook Burger experience.

When I go to Oxnard I expect food that isn't great. Hook Burger was the exact opposite. The veggie burger was epic! I've tried so many veggie burgers, since I am a vegetarian. Burger King gets a zero star on their veggie burger meaning it is barely edible. This place gets 5 stars, because it isn't just a veggie burger so they can say "Yes, we have vegetarian options", no they go the extra mile. Their veggie burger had avacodo and was over all delicious. If you are a vegetarian you know it is hard to find something good enough to even come close to calling delicious at a restaurant that isn't aimed at vegetarians. Heck, they're better then one vegetarian restaurant I go to. Long story short, this place rocks. '

Its not the burgers that amazed me. Don't get me wrong. This place has tasty burgers and fries. What astonished me the most was the meritorious customer service! The staff was very friendly and eager to make your dining experience here a memorable one. It was a lasting impression on a first timer like myself that will keep me coming here.

  • Sara S.

Always great! The veggie burger was bomb, added pickles of course with no cheese. The fries were hot and crispy and amazing, my mom said the onion rings were the best she had ever had and this lady has had a lot hahaha! 4 adults and 2 kids all with meals and drinks and a side of coleslaw (which was delish too) and the onion rings total bill $65ishi have to say for as much food as we put down that was pretty good. I will be back and if you haven't been you should give it a shot. Staff was helpful and very attentive. They found the ingredient list of the veggie patty just so I could make sure there was no egg! What a nice effort on their part.

This place is delicious! I ordered the veggie burger and sweet potato fries, both were amazing. Great service as well. The place was packed but they got our food out quickly, and brought us requested condiments right away.

    1. Smell: Nice pleasant smell. 2. Fixtures: Nice sink and toilet 3. Design/Decor:Nice tiled flooring and walls. Earthy tone that really matches well with the restaurant. 4. Hand Dryers: Auto paper towel dispensers that dispense 1 towel at a time conveniently located next to the door so that you can use the towel to open the door. 5. Toiletries: Didn't really use toilet paper, so no comment. Towels were white and absorbed water well. Soap was run of the mill clear liquid variety. 6. Privacy: Single room bathroom, and for lunch time it was surprisingly not busy. 7. Cleanness: Very clean and up to the standard of the restaurant. 8. Space: Plenty of space and room for whatever you need to do. 9. Changing Station: Not available but I think there is plenty of room to change your baby's diaper whether you need to lay something down or use your knees. 10. Miscellaneous: Nothing out of the ordinary. Overall: I give it a solid 4.5 stars since everything was quite what you'd expect from walking into the restaurant to the bathroom. Nothing to take it over the top, but the restroom is well maintained and gets a solid 4.5 for cleanliness during peak hours. I really wanted to give it a 5 stars, but it would need to be exceptional.

Perfect Roasted Chili Burger full of flavor from a bit hot to sweet, juicy, and fresh bun. Consistently a perfect gourmet burger that hits my taste buds, great side choices for everyone, killer shakes, good beer and wine selection, and nice clean comfortable atmosphere.

Why are there meat hooks dangling from the chandeliers?! that and the plethora of super enthusiastic employees creeps me out. The staff are really attentive and the foods pretty good. I get the bistro burger cuz it has nothing but the basics and tastes great.

High quality hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, etc that is supposedly non gmo and reminds me of Smash Burger but with prices a bit more expensive. May return as all items were quite tasty.

first time here and pleasantly surprised by the food, prices, and especially the service. Whoever manages this place should be given an award. This small chain is clean and very comfortable with updated style. I wish there was one of these in my neighborhood! we enjoyed a turkey burger, sweet potato fries and Cobb salad; everything was delicious.

  • Esmeralda G.

The burgers are beautiful to look at and tasty! They stand up nice and tall and you can see the fresh ingredients. Some other burger joints just squish the burger and don't worry about the appearance. They also serve huge portions of fries and onion rings. In conclusion, it's a great place to go grub! I wouldn't recommend it for a date though. One bite of that huge wonderful burger and it kind of just goes all over the place. BUT it's the best bite ever!

  • Cheryl G.

This place is AWESOME. Excellent quality food and service. I ordered the Prime Burger. The bun was soft, light and airy and toasted well. The meat was very juicy and tasty. The toppings did not overwhelm the taste of the burger. The kids hamburger was a perfect amount of food for a kid. My son ordered the Hickory Burger and said it also had a good balance of flavors. My husband ordered a Chicken Caesar salad and loved the "plate" that it was served in. The lettuce to chicken balance good. The staff was very attentive and checked on us several times during our visit. They all were smiling and friendly and were even willing to adjust out order while it was cooking (removed cheese from kids burger- I didn't ask for a refund). They all seemed to have a guest matters attitude. The atmosphere was pleasant. The music was a nice volume, you could hear it and not have to raise your voice to have a conversation with the people at your table. Nice decor nice touches of classiness but not stuffy at all Would definitely return. Wishing we had one in Fair Oaks CA!!

Wow. Words cannot describe how great my juicy hickory bacon burger was last night. If I could even try to some up my experience at hook it would be ...hmm... Okay i guess... Haha Jk but really hook has some great burgers and sandwiches. And let me tell you they have never done me dirty, never, I always leave happy and feeling alive like I can now die in peace into burger heaven catered by hook and then listen to some classic Billy Joel.. Would that be nice billy Joel and aHook Hickory Bacon Burger that's the life.., Anyway I'll probably eat here again today after church Good day everyone!

Nice place with a good vibe and energetic atmosphere! Clean (even the restroom when I went to wash my hands) and modern with flat screens and cool music playing in the background. Cashiers and wait staff were absolutely helpful and professional! Great choices for food at reasonable prices and they also offer various craft beers! My order came lightning fast and did not disappoint! The Prime Burger was delicious! Thanks Hook Burger! I'll definitely come back again!

Just moved to this city from the Bay Area, me and the BF were craving a burger and fries. First of all, we love how close it is to our home- walking distance so we walk over with my dog because they offer outdoor seating. So, back to the important stuff, THE FOOD; burgers are ridiculousy HUGE, your have to literally smoosh/flatten it down to bite it. (not complaint here, this is a GOOD thing!) You basically get to choose what you want in your burger, I got the Prime Cheeseburger with avocado, delicious! There also offer french fries, both regular and sweet potato fries. On our second visit here, we sat at the cute bar area, and watched the waitress make a milkshake, immediately we ordered a cookie shake because it looked too good to pass up, plus it was hot outside so perfect for the weather. The milkshakes are ahhhhmazingly good here. Do not hesitate to order one, if you even have space after your burger and fries. Prices are very reasonable for what you get-quality is worth the price!

We were staying in town for our friends' wedding weekend. On Saturday morning I got up and went for a long run/walk. I passed this place on the way back to our hotel, was intrigued, and later looked it up on Yelp to see if it would be a good lunch option. I ordered the turkey burger with veggies and avocado on a wheat bun. My honey and I also got an order of sweet potato fries to share. The burger was really good. A little skimpy on the avocado, but flavorful as far as turkey goes. I could have done without the fries. They had brown sugar sprinkled on top which was overkill to me since I think they are sweet enough already. When they brought us our food, they offered various sauce options. We had one that came with the sweet potato fries and asked for BBQ. Both were also on the sweet side. Service was great. You order at the counter, take a seat and they help you out from there. If we spent more time in Oxnard, I would probably spend more time here.

The food is alright and the service is nice but the place itself is really dirty, which is why I'm reviewing so low. At first glance it seems clean but sitting at the table we took our napkin to dust off some left over food and the napkin came up black. Did it again in a different area and the same thing happened. Can't imagine when the last time they actually cleaned the tabled with soap and water.. not just a quick wipe down. Gross. Also there is dust on almost all eye level surfaces. Completely takes away your appetite.

A great place at a great price. I expected this place to be a little more expensive just on the ambiance alone. It has that high end burger house feel, but not that big of a dent you get from your wallet. An affordable burger place that falls within the everyday lunch allowance. If your here for the first time, you have to try the burger named after the restaurant...The Hook Burger. Caramelized bourbon onions, lettuce, tomato, honey dijon mayo, all on what feels like a freshly baked bun. Every bite seems like the first, a savory bliss that doesn't make sense, but will make sense when you try it yourself. I will be back and come to think of it, its been at least a week that i've been here. I need to get on it with the lunch group and voice my opinion for another Hook Burger. FYI: If you come here on your birthday, they will give you a treat. A fan that will be back as soon as i can pursuade the lunch group.

I eat out quite a bit and have highly recommended Hook to folks. However, most places let you slide with coupons that have expired but not Hook that day. Love the burgers but really dislike the management that institutes a strict policy like that. Soooo...management sucked that day but the burgers ROCK...everyday!!!!

Service is always great, one of the best burgers in Ventura county. Great beer selection on tap, what more can one ask for?

This place is cute, and the staff couldn't be any nicer. The prices are pretty good for a burger joint and it's nice that they have a bar area for beer and wine. But the burgers just aren't as good as what you will get at a Habit Burger or In and Out or Red Robin. I had the veggie burger just to try it, and it was pretty bland. Hubby had the bacon cheeseburger and it was also pretty bland. The fries were pretty good - we had the combo basket of sweet potato, regular and onion rings. The onions were not cooked enough so it was impossible to bit thru the rings. I would say there is nothing wrong with this place, but it is just okay.

I decided to take my friend here after some friends recommended this place and after reading some of these reviews. Let me start off by saying that this place has a staff that's friendly and accommodating, and the restaurant has a rustic ambiance that's similar to cafes. When I arrived I was greeted by a server who handed us a menu, told us how the service works, and her recommendations. Often times restaurants have a unique system of ordering and service that it confuses clients; glad to know that this place is aware of this and informs customers off the bat. The greeter recommended the Hickory Burger and because she was cute, and I was gullible, I went with her recommendation. I was pleased to see that they served some beers on tap and bottle. I ordered the burger with a Downtown beer. Let me say that as a beer connoisseur, I was hesitant to try a dark beer because of its notorious reputation for having a harsh taste, but this beer was flavorful and smooth; pleased I was. My friend ordered their Grilled Chicken Cesar Salad, which she really enjoyed, and a glass of their Poppy Pinot Noir. The wine selection is very limited, but it's a small burger joint so it's understandable. When the burger arrived, it look exactly like the pictures online and in the menu. As I grabbed the burger and took a bite, I was hit with a rush of barbecue sauce, bacon, and beef; overwhelming it was. It was what a gourmet burger should be... except for one thing: the bottom bun! It fell apart immediately that left my finger tips covered in mayonnaise and looking like the Rocky Mountains. Additionally, the shredded lettuce began to fall on the plate and made it look like I ordered a Cesar salad. However, the fries were delicious and the combination of beer and burger made the trip worth while. Thus, my only gripes with Hook Burger Bistro is the shredded lettuce and crumbling buns. Besides those minor gripes, the place is a "must try"! I'm coming back, but if my buns crumble again so help me that I'll reduce the stars from 4 to 2. I've done it before... and I did it while laughing devilishly..

Still one of my favorite places for burgers (among Bachi, and Cheesecake Factory Americana burger and a burger at the Four Seasons in HK). I always get a double prime burger. This is top 4 on my list of burger places

Really good burger, fast, fast service!!! Soooo much better than fast food burgers, and it's still really fast.

I heard so many good things about this place so I was excited to check it out. There was a long line when I got there but didn't mind the wait. I was disappointed that they didn't have any combo options. If you want a burger with fries and a drink, it'll cost you. Still though, I wouldn't mind the cost if the product was worth it. Spoler; it wasn't. My burger was overcooked, the fries were soggy and the bun was cold. I left unsatisfied and will not be returning again. 2 stars for the friendly staff though!

Fabulous, fresh hickory burger. Establishment is focused on providing humanely raised, hormone free burgers, chicken and turkey. Shoestring fries are delicious and the side Caesar salad was crisp and perfectly dressed. This is not a sit down and be served restaurant but it's not fast food either. Great for a quick bite in a comfortable setting. Very clean and lively!

I wanted to save my 200th review for some place that gave me a positive experience. This place deserves it! It was my first time here and I was just grabbing lunch to go because I had somewhere to be for school so I was really crunched for time. I ordered their turkey burger on a wheat bun and a side of fries (because I love fries and you just can't have a burger without it!). There were people who ordered after me but got their food before me. But I patiently waited. But still my order was not there yet. I can hear the lady who was taking care of the orders from the kitchen mentioning my order but the cooks somehow skipped my order. So it was delayed and I had to wait a bit longer. The lady did apologize and acknowledged their mistake. So I waited some more. As I got my food (finally) the lady gave me the manager's business card and wrote that I get a free turkey burger on the next visit since I went through that inconvenience. I was extremely impressed and I was not expecting that! I just wanted my food and I didn't want to be late to where I needed to go. The customer service here is more than what I can imagine and more businesses need to be like them. I actually didn't get to eat my food until about 2 hours later but it was still delicious nonetheless! Turkey burger was on par and juicy! Fries were soggy but I love fries so it didn't matter! I did get a few bites of some fries when I first got my order and it was nice, crispy, and perfect in my book! Next time I would like to try the sweet potato fries! I recommend this place and I will be back (to redeem my free turkey burger)!

Burgers are to die for and I hear they make a mean inside-out burger too. It's clean, casual and quiet. The service is polite, quick and attentive. If you stop by try and make it after noon so you can hit up their sweet bar! Parking is a bit of a hassle but only because if their location. Other than that it's great for a quick bite.

  • Katie A.

Great food and great service. Lost one star due to horrible phone in order service. They turn off their phones when they're busy so you'll actually have to go in to do a to go order which is frustrating if you're in a hurry. Other than that they're great.

Great burgers, seared ahi sanwiches, turkey burgers and grilled cheese. Perfect onion rings. Good sweet potato fries and salads. Fresh iced tea, beers on tap, fun atmosphere. Nice clean restrooms. Staff cares about your experience. Have been back plenty. Ranks right up there with The Habit, with nicer decor. On our last trip, I had the seared ahi again, but I didnt remember them putting the dripping wet cole slaw right on the sandwich? Next time I'll order the Cole slaw on the side.

This place is Off the HOOK! My brother and I came here on a Friday night, just looking to see what this cool little join in the middle of the semi-ghetto (yes you oxnard, you kind of are, but I still love you) was all about. This location is in the strip mall across from walmart, the same one that has fresh and easy, Buffalo wild wings and yogurtland so there is plenty of parking. Its a cool divey setting thats a cross between a hip restaurant and a coffee lounge with a lot of tv's. There is plenty of seating too. The line is usually long but it moves along very quickly. My brother ordered the Prime burger ( 5 oz prime chick, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato and honey dijon mayo) with sweet potato fries, while I ordered the Bistro Burger( roasted red pepper, onion, melted jack, avo and lettuce tomato, honey dijon mayo) with onion rings. Both came out at a decent time and we found seating on the little counter tables they had scattered near the registers. At first bite it was YUM! We loved it! Hook does not play, our burgers tasted divine! 100% fresh USDA prime chick on a super tender, sweet bakery bun! The sweet potato fries were not too big they were normal fry cut not steak fries which I can dig. The onion rings weren't overly seasoned or salty, they were just right and I could eat a couple orders of those alone! For the price, you just cannot beat this place. Its less than $6 for a burger that is fresh, delicious and sooo mouth watering.

...another establishment that my gf introduced me to... pretty good atmosphere with tvs to go around... if youve noticed with most of my reviews its important to have tvs for one i dont normally watch tv and two tv helps keep me occupied while im eating but there are other ways to keep one occupied besides watching tv... anyways hook burger gets pretty busy and i can see why... theyve got good food with good service to go along with it... i only tried their hickory burger which was pretty awesome but i have yet to try some of their other burgers... hook burger is definitely 'the business'...

  • Frank D.

Strongly recommend. My fav is the hickory burger. They have good service, restaurant is clean, and the food is fantastic. The only problem I would say is that their bottom bun on the burger seems to fall apart easily. That's probably because the burger is loaded. Expect to pay about $12 with fries and a drink.

  • S. M.

This place is AMAZING! One of the best burger joints I've been to. The service was excellent. The food here is sooo bomb. I tried the hickory burger with the pretzel bun and wow- it was delish! I wasn't a big fan of their french fries, but the onion rings and sweet potato fries were pretty good :)

  • Maricela G.

I like how I phoned in an order before lunch, i get there 15 minutes later and it isn't even ready. I pay at the front and still sit down and wait...as all these servers are passing by me and serving people, 20 minutes pass by and nothing until someone recognizes that I've been sitting there for a very very very long time. As they get to my order they realize the sandwiches have been sitting there for who knows how long and just put in the fries. Much to say that my taste buds weren't having it after I got home since the bread was soggy already.

Great experience at this burger joint. Staff Helpful, greeter at the door handing out menus, servers check on you to see if everything is ok Food Delicious, high quality Ambience Has booths for groups, tables for couples and a counter for a quick bite. Drinks - a selection on wines, beer and lemonade sodas available. Friendly environment

I'm sorry, I shouldn't go to a burger joint and order a chicken sandwich, but I did just that. So, I can't tell you how HBB delivers on burgers. What I can tell you about is my experience. This is a new trend in many restaurants. Instead of having a wait staff that takes your order, you order at a counter, they give you a number and then they deliver it to you. Let's talk about the ordering. You look at the menu and choose your sandwich (e.g., burger, chicken even salads). We had a chicken sandwich, onion rings and for the little one a grilled cheese sandwich with fries. They then give you an electronic number. Once they give it to you, it tracks how long the staff is taking to make and then deliver your food. If it starts to get too long, the kitchen staff is notified and then the onsite manager. So, this place is big on service. We weren't at our table long before everything arrived (plus the wait staff was attentive and helpul... a bonus). The chicken sandwich was good. The onion rings were crispy and good and the fries were good. The grilled cheese was crispy and good too. We had no complaints witht he food. This is your basic $6-burger joint. Because of the great tastes, I would choose this over a chain burger place. However, I like the concept. Give people a great ambiance (TVs, nice furniture and nice environment), and deliver great burgers and stuff. So, you should visit if you're in the Oxnard area. You won't be disappointed.

This was the first Hook Burger I had ever beenyo when a friend took me on a lunchdate years ago. I only came here once after that and when i moved to LA, I became a frequent customer of the Burbank location. This one is just as good as the Burbank location :) Tasty food, great service, neat atmosphere.

I took the kids here on a weeknight and I thought their indecisiveness was going to drive the order taker crazy, but nope, she was super nice :) There is not enough good things I can say about this place, the staff is friendly, patient and helpful. The food is delicious, a bit pricey for a burger joint, but totally worth it! The fries are just perfect, thin, crispy and they taste fresh. And its nice and clean inside, has the ambiance of a small restaurant but its more like a fancy Habit Restaurant. I can't vouch for the burgers because I don't eat meat (I know then wth am I doing in a burger joint) but my two little ones swore they were delicious. I had the seared ahi sandwich, the old way, (which is without the sugary teriyaki sauce and slaw) and it was simply delicious! This place is definately worth a drive into the Nard :)

Came in for a burger, fries, etc. It was my first time, the cashier was excellent (sorry, didn't get his name). The burger was very good; not exceptional, but well worth the $6.50. FF's were excellent. So, food, service were both excellent. Atmosphere very good, very clean place. Looking for a burger place, this is an excellent place to go. Thank you very much for your time.

Been here a few times and have always enjoyed the food. Tonite however the fries we not burnt but too crispy. I have had them befits and they were better. Prime burger was good but had better and the strawberry cheese cake shake was horrible . No flavor at all. Gave 4 stars because still like the place and know it was just an off nite.

generally good place to get lunch with one glaring exception, the veggie burger at hook is awful. its thin and flavorless. if these guys used garden burgers or Boca burgers it would be a hundred percent better. I would have given this place 4 stars but on our first visit a manager told us they were going to be switching to veggie burger in a couple of weeks. that was several months ago. Anyway, a nice enough place, good people, good quality food. Meh +.

My wife and I were just looking for a place to eat and this place looked inviting. We had never heard of it, since we are not from this area. The burger options were interesting. The employees were extremely nice. We had to wait for about 15 minutes to get out meal (a bit long), and the server apologized for the wait. We never complained or said a word, but by the time we were done with our meal, the manager came by, apologized for the wait, and gave us a voucher for two free hamburgers on our next visit. Since the food was really good, we went back the next day and got our free burgers. Again, very great and friendly customer service. The burgers, salad, and onion rings were excellent. I later looked up other locations and found that the closest one to my home is in Pasadena. Hope they open one in the Inland Empire soon.

I really enjoyed this place! The Hickory burger and the sweet potato fries were absolutely delicious. It wasn't busy so it was nice of the staff to check to see how we were doing. They came by our table at least 4 times, which seems like a lot but my friend and I were there chatting from 5:30pm until they closed at 9pm. I appreciated that the staff asked if we needed refills and took away our empty plates right away.

My review will strictly be on what I ordered: Bistro Burger - Yum! The meat was well-seasoned and cooked to my liking upon request (medium). The roasted red pepper gave it that nice smokey/peppery taste & aroma... I was going to opt for regular mayo, but figured I should just get the burger as is and it turned out the honey dijon mayo they use wasn't over-powering at all. Good size burger, more than what I can consume (then again I am someone who gets full from a protein style cheeseburger at In-N-Out) BBQ Chicken Sandwich - Good sandwich if you are looking for that "bbq" taste. The bbq sauce was more on the sweet side with a little bit of tang behind it. Bistro Club Sandwich - LOVE that they chose to use thick slices of sourdough bread because it help up well to all of the components. Again, the honey dijon mayo really pulled it all together. Would recommend to anyone looking for a hearty, but not heavy sandwich. Fries - On the thin side... well seasoned however, I don't think I got a freshly fried batch, so they were starting to get chewy Onion rings - Really sweet with an awesome crunch to the batter. Sweet Potato Fries - I mean, a fried sweet potato is a fried sweet potato. If you love your sweet potatoes, no doubt get these over fries. OVERALL - Would consider coming back here, but more to try the other sandwiches. I do love burgers, but I lean more towards sandwiches. Do NOT hesitate to try this place, it is definitely worth the try. Prices are SUPER reasonable and portions are more than average.

I had a prime burger with bleu cheese and fries, and it was delicious. The service was EXCELLENT, the servers check on you multiple times and are very friendly. The only reason I give 4 stars was that it was a little expensive for a burger joint. $25 for two burgers with fries and drinks.

  • ME. D.

Very good burgers! Very reasonably priced! The staff is young, but VERY friendly and pleasant! The customer service, I felt was impressive! When it comes to the food, I would actually say they are gourmet burgers! Everything is a la carte, but you still spend less than $10 a person. Not sure if this is a chain, but if it is, we need one in NorCal! :)!

Meats are non-GMO! Great start. . . We enjoyed lunch here post race of the Ventura Marathon on Sunday before returning home. They have beer on tap and that was all the approval needed for my husband to enjoy his well deserved burger and fries. I had the Bistro Club sandwich and enjoined it very much but the bread ratio to chicken was not sufficient to my liking. I ate half but truthfully I devoured the french fries. They really hit the spot! I don't eat french fries often and it showed during our lunch. Mike ordered the Hickory Burger, and mentioned although he liked it, it was overpowered by the shoestring onions. He got in a fry or two when I wasn't looking but I pretty much dominated those alone. The price was very reasonable but sides are a la catre.

I always get the steak sandwich. It is super. And I love the sweet potato fries. But when hubby brought dinner home for us, the sweet potato fries were no longer crispy. They got limp on the drive. : ( The price is high for fast food but normal for a restaurant. The place is in between the two. Service is nice, and you can get a taste of lots of sauces on the side.

Yum! Some of the best burgers in town. We had two BBQ bacon burgers and it was under $20. The crunchy onions are a great idea and add a wonderful texture and flavor to an already delicious burger! Fries were crispy and salty and delicious! Great service and prices. Will absolutely be back!!

Really tasty food! They are pretty fast even at lunch time. They don't have an extensive menu, but they are great at what they do serve. I enjoy the Maui and Bistro burgers. You can get anything custom made too. They have the best sweet potato fries in town and they are served with horseradish sauce... Yum! It's not 5 stars because you have to order all of the food separately, so be prepared for a $12-$15 lunch.

  • Kayli D.

Great food (love the Cobb salad!). And excellent service... Tonight, the manager stopped by our table to introduce himself and ask what he and his restaurant could do to improve. Truthfully, there is nothing he needs to do different. But the fact that he took such pride and ownership of the place left a great impression on my husband an I. He even came back with a second serving of fries for our family to share, on the house, when I mentioned that my toddler loved them. We will definitely make this a regular place to visit and recommend it to friends. A tad pricey, but worth it for a nice environment and top notch customer service.

Top notch burger joint!! It was better than I was expecting. I thought for sure I was going to pay minimum $10 dollars for a burger, but the burgers are fairly inexpensive, super fresh and really tasty. Service as well was great. They have plenty of outdoor seating, but it was cold, so not a soul was dining outside. Very busy Saturday night, could have used more indoor seating. Will be back for sure!

Double Prime Burger w/cheddar.... This was great. Great flavor, great char, great seasoning. Simply, one of the best burgers I have had, ever. Fries.... Very, very good. Not the best, but worth eating. Bistro Club Sandwich..... My GF said this was delicious. Well cooked, very tasty and filling. She was impressed. A must go. I will be back.... Went a third time. Burger was good, no complaint there. But the Fries were so undercooked, they were limp. Not good at all. So, had to knock it down to three stars....

Great, just Great. Wonderful burgers, fresh tasty ingredients, good fries, nice portions and price. But the best part is the AMAZING, CORDIAL, CARING SERVICE from everyone in this place. I've since tried many of more of their lettuced-wrapped burgers and am in love! Just had two bistro burgers w/ added bacon yesterday. Mmm... They come w/ an extremely juicy patty--and I mean the juices are running down. Very flavorful!--engulfed by roasted red bell peppers and onions, melted jack, and avocado. I asked for the topping on the side, though it's really delicious if you order the burger as is. I love that it's reasonably able to accommodate those on a Paleo diet (does anyone in Oxnard know what that is??). Makes me one happy gal! As for the sweet potato fries, I asked and they fry them in soybean oil, in case anyone cares to know.

I love this place! They serve gourmet burgers and uses fine ingredients. The prices are descent. The sides are also good. Yet another burger joint in California like we don't have enough. They're food is good but I don't know I really wouldn't call burgers food at all to be honest. I'm used to eating heavier foods that will fill me up a burger is just a snack. High school Students go here after school as well. I would recommend this place if you're lazy to cook or in a hurry and longing to get food.

The shoestring fries are fantastic, I have never had a bad burger or sandwich here. Its nice to grab a beer with lunch. Very happy with the service I have gotten, the only reason for 4 stars is there is only one. This place is always pack and I am more than happy to wait, but, can we get a second in Ventura County already.

Wow was this an amazing find. The best burger I've had for $6.75. Sweet potato fries with chipotle mayo were so yummy! We got the bistro burger in lettuce so it was healthy and delicious! Wish they had one in Santa Monica!

Ski Rider Ultralight's amazing coastal ultralight flight, and super fun Jim Hall Kart racing got me in the mood for MEAT. Thanks to my trusty Yelp app, DG and I found this place! Decorated like a Houston's, with multiple TVs showing sporting events and beer and wine choices, but with order-at the-front and table service, this place is pretty cool! Our burgers came out fast, were served by very friendly staff, and were super reasonably priced. My soda was refillable, and during our relatively short dining experience here, we were checked on by 4 separate, very cheerful servers. I dare say that the service experience here would get the Ciara G stamp of approval! The burgers were impressive: Bistro Burgers - DG's on a glossy brioche bun with bacon, mine bunless and lettuce wrapped. Both juicy and topped with roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, avocado and mayo, and messy gooooood! Coleslaw - fresh, crunchy green and red cabbage in a mayo dressing. Yum! This yummy experience makes me want to try The Habit - which apparently is owned by the same person!

After the land-sea-air tour that comprised my weekend in Oxnard, I was getting to the point of being famished. Enter "Hook". I'm not sure where the name came from, but I did get the impression that it was a vague allusion to the bubblegum-pop music that was playing over the sound system. I walked right up to the counter and ordered a Bistro burger which was adorned with avocado, layered with lettuce, and bejeweled with bacon (which was a Washington extra). There were also roasted red peppers placed on top of melted cheese. Paid with credit and was given a number, after which I selected my seat. I bit into the burger, and found that the bun was simmerlar to a brioche, with a touch of sweetness. The bacon was a tad overdone, but the juicy burger, avocado and roasted red peppers more than made up for it. I added barbecue sauce to complete the goodness. Service was very friendly and sinseer. If you like a good burger, get your buns in here!

This restaurant was very nice. They have many options instead of beef for your burgers. I got a salad with ahi and it was pretty good. They cook the Fish to your preferred temperature. They got it wrong once but after the corrected it it was good. It's very clean and I would definitely recommend it.

My favorite is the bistro salad with pan seared albacore. But also love the burgers. Great service, everyone is helpful and nice.

Hands down the best steak sandwich I've ever had, which was a pleasant surprise. I had the flat iron steak sandwich, medium rare with onions and blue cheese. I was hesitant upon service seeing the amount of juice under the sandwich assuming the bread would be soggy. The fresh bread which melted in your mouth with the tender meat was never soggy. The steak was tender, not chewy or fatty. When you take a bite you don't end up pulling the meat of the sandwich with you. I highly recommend!

Really great experience. The hostess Brenda was very helpful and explained the menu as soon as we entered... 4 burgers, 4 sandwiches and 4 salads. I got the hickory burger which was AWESOME and my wife got the cobb sandwich or something which was also yummy. Fries are great, onion rings are really good. Free refills on lemon-aid.

These burgers are the best , as you like it. Nobody comes close. I would have given them a 5 , but they had to go and get rid of the best fries since McDonalds gave up lard for canola oil! Skinny was great. Fat fries , eh OK. But why does Hooks want to mimick every body else ? Guys bring back the skinny fries!

Food was delicious! Best burger I have had in Oxnard. Atmosphere is nice, and great look on the inside. Only thing its missing is more TV's.

Being in Oxnard can make me really depressed. All they have are chains that don't even compare to other locations and terrible service (there are a few exceptions to this rule) and lots and lots of families everywhere I go. I don't know why, but when I see families... I think dirtyness because kids are just messy and parents nowadays don't discipline their children and don't make them clean up after themselves. *shakes head in disappointment* This theory has proved itself over and over again so when I came to Hook, I was pleasantly surprised that it looked like a more upscale burger place that was immaculately clean and not overflowing with screaming children. Now, onto the food. The burgers were good. I've never really had an upscale burger, so I had nothing to compare it to, but it was at least a notch up from The Habit, which is yummy. The bistro burger is delicious, but my favorite item from this weekend was the bistroclub sandwich. The only disappointment about the sandwich was that the description said it had honey dijon mayonnaise. I'm extremely picky when it comes to mayonnaise because I think that its by far one of the grossest things in the world, but seeing how its in a lot of things that I eat, I'm trying to get over it. I can now have chipotle mayo, and pesto mayo and I figured that I could probably handle honey dijon mayo. nope, that was pure mayonnaise. i had to take off the top layer of bread because i just can't stand it... (don't ask... I think it looks like lard. I can't do it) and it was still delicious. Their milkshakes are really good too!! get the caramel latte milkshake!

In terms of aesthetics, service, quality and burger joints in Oxnard...Its as good as it gets. Its like a 4.5 rounded up. I'm super happy with this place. The service is genuinely nice and friendly!!!! The place is just really well done in terms of design and materials, even the restrooms are pretty! The burger combos are well done and the size of the burgers are perfect. We went with the hickory burger regular cheeseburger and fries and sweet potato fries. I truly think the sweet potato fries had sugar on them...some would love that, just too sweet for me. I'd go in just to have a beer. The white bar top, tile and exposed wood beams is cool and hip...makes you want to chill and have a beer. They have a bunch of wine racks as though you're in a wine bar but wine is not what its about. You would not know you're in a Ventura County strip mall and definitely not an Oxnard one!!!

Although I am new to the area and this place came highly recommended so there was already a high level of expectation. Truth be told, the burgers and sweet potato fries were mediocre at best...three star, but the extra star is for the value of the meal. Burger, Sweet potato fries, beer, Laker's game for $15 bucks not too shabby. I am going to come across as a total OC snob but I prefer 5 Guys in the OC. Better quality burger overall in taste and value, but Hook is close enough to warrant my return...and isn't that's what it's all about! REPEAT Business!!!

Hook Burger Bistro Breakdown: -The Food: Good. Burger and onion rings were really good. The fries were not so great. -The Value: It was $22 for two burgers, fries, onion rings, and a drink. -The Experience: Really good service. They were nice and attentive. They lost a star for the fries. I feel like great fries are a must for a burger place. They were too soggy for me.

The buns are too soft they need to get fresher fish. my mother got sick from there ahi sandwich my club sandwich had enough mayo on it to put on 3 other sandwiches. The Only reason I gave this place 1 star is because the service was great.

I had an amazing experience the first time I was here...I have been back numerous times since that first time and just wanted to update my review with the little things I have noticed. Since this is a new restaurant it seems like maybe they have been working out the kinks that any new restaurant might have. The line may be long at times but they really do seem to move through customers fast. Do not be discouraged by the small interior, it always seems like there is a seat available to eat. I guess the first couple times I was here I did not realize that there is an outside area that will make for nice outdoor dining most of the year. I am addicted to the Hickory Burger. I usually get my burgers with no lettuce, tomatoes or onions but the Hickory Burger has those fried onion strings instead of regular onions and the combination of those onion strings with the burger and BBQ sauce is completely amazing. After dining here a number of times I think I have figured out what I like about this spot. It seems like a combination of The Habit, In n Out, 5 Guys, and Red Robin all in one spot. You get the nice restaurant type burger and experience in a non-waiter type environment. Saying this they still have team members who come around and ask to refill your sodas and take your trash away. They really do a great job at customer service here. I am very pleased with my Hook Burger Bistro experience and I will be eating here much more in the future. :0)

best. burger. ever! My lady and I came here for a quick bite, and found it to be the best burger we ever had. the sweet potato fries were so good we ordered a second round after we ate. And...they are GMO free as well so I can really support the company. totally worth it!

Two new places in Oxnard have been on my radar for a few months now. Fishermen's Catch or Hook Burger Bistro? Which one should we go to today? Drove to Fishermen's Catch only to find a sign in the window "Gone Fishing". Go figure. No 1.5 pound lobster for $20.00 for me today! Catch you next time Fisherman's Catch. Off to the Hook! I knew it was on the corner of Rose and Gonzales, but there's so much new stuff going on there it took a little while to find it. Rolled in about 1:30 p.m. on New Years Eve day. It was packed to the rafters with burger eating humanity! Snagged a little two top table and browsed the menu. A nice booth opened up, bonus! Jamie V- 24 oz. Can o' PBR. : ) Bistro Burger- 5 oz. prime chuck, Roasted red pepper and onion, melted jack cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, honey dijon mayo. Ordered it medium rare. Arrived more like rare. I'm part vampire so no big deal. Literally, a bloody good burger! Shiny (oily) bun too. Good. Woman- Iced tea. Ahi Tuna Burger- Seared Ahi, lettuce, tomato, wasabi tartar, red onion, toasted bun. Very good too. Wasabi tartar gave it that hint of Asian flavor. Solid fish burger! Onion rings, ranch dressing- Similar to the Habit, but some how better. Maybe a little thicker cut. Maybe the PBR had something to do with it. Delicious! Sweet potato fries- Freaking crispy, salted, hot and fattening. Carbs deluxe. Dam you Hook Burger Bistro! Note to self- Commence operation code name "Atkins". Scheduled for Monday, 1/3/2011.

This is a great Boyguh place! And I love the light fixtures, very cool and retro, the bulbs are awesome! But enough about the decor howz about the food! The Hickory Boyguh was fantastic! Tons of bacon and BBQ sauce, on a toasty handmade bun. The onion rings were superb. Yeah the food was really good. It came out fresh and quick, literally they brought it out within 5 minutes of me ordering. Its a great place to take the kids. Its casual yet elegant at the same time. I have to comment on the service. So after the meal I decided I would like to wash the Boyguh down with a 5,000 calorie milk shake. So I get back in line, and then a server walks up to me and offers to start making the shake so that I do not have to wait to pay for it! Awesome! Oh yeah, the prices were more than fair! Five guys who?

This place is fabulous. I discover this place about 9 months ago and since than I have tried almost everything on the menu, and liked everything I tired. Even though, I'm a very picky eater. If you like steak than you have to try their steak sandwich, their ahi Tina salad is delicious but my favorite it their chicken sandwich.

I've been several times, tried several different burgers. THE BEST!! Great service. Best burger place around. The difference is their meat. They're not using McDonalds or Carl's or Wendy's beef.

Great restaurant concept... nothing novel in any sense but it is always nice to get a step up from fast food. Plus, an adult beverage never hurts (for the over 21 crowd). Had the sweet potato fries which were good but not a big enough portion. Haha. And I'll disagree with other reviews... they were not too sweet. Bummed to find out later I could have asked for a dipping sauce. The hickory burger was too barbecue sauce-y for me, the bistro burger was perfect. The patty isn't that big to call it truly gourmet, the lettuce shreds are not preferred over a lettuce leaf, and the avocado needed to be sliced and distributed out, I did that myself) but it really was delish. Easy quick clean service and a nice restaurant feel. Next time I make the drive out of Los Angeles I'll remember you and make a stop!

Their burgers are works of art. Almost too beautiful to eat and they taste great. The place is very busy, so expect a bit of a wait.

  • Tim R.

I'll start with the sweet potato fries. A lot of places have sweet potato fries and a lot of Yelpers say their great. This is one of the few places that stand out for me as being unique and great. I think it's the seasoning they use but they are really good. The burger was big, juicy, cooked med rare and delicious. Fresh shredded lettuce and a toasted soft bun made the burger one to remember. This place deserves its good reviews. Nice but busy interior is a good place for an energetic dinner or lunch.

Hook burger is on my way home from work, I would go there more often if it was soo pricey. It's menu is similar to habbit, just cost more... Other than that I prefer habbit fries... Otherwise is it's a great place if u wanna spend some extra money

  • Gofu K. Yoself W.

Meh. The pattys themselves are pretty flavorless. but the real problem is the kitchen right next to the ordering station with no wall or separation. The runner would yell loudly in spanish at the mexicans in the kitchen and they would yell loud and fast back, again, in spanish. Extremely annoying! It ruined my dinner. Im tired of hearing spanish everywhere I go.. I certainly dont want to hear it shouted loudly during my dinner. I wont be going back.

This was quite good. Went for the first time on a Sunday evening. The place was full but there was no line. I'd have to say that the food was very good. I had the BBQ Burger and my wife had the signature burger. We both appreciated the juicy burger we were provided. For Oxnard, this was a food choice.

Simple menu with great burgers. More on the gourmet side. I love their salads too. Really nice and trendy decor. It's a nice place to go for a date. I wish they were open later. Mmmm, I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

Nice inside. Seating is a little limited, but the tables change often enough that you will usually get a seat. Food is average. Great presentation, but taste is very average. I want to like the place and give it a great review, but it is just OK. I've had about four lunches here and every time I've walked away disappointed. If I pay $13 for burger, onion rings and a drink - I want better than average. Hamburger Habit food is way better, Hook has better looking restaurant.

Great burgers however extremely crowded. Got the prime burger and fries. The burger was delicious but the fries tasted as if they has been reheated. Will be back but will not reorder the fries.

Love this place! Everything I've had here is delicious. The burgers are good sized and tasty, the sweet potato fries are good and I love the rotisserie chicken. The service is also wonderful, someone was always checking on us, refilling drinks, etc. Very busy at lunchtime on weekdays.

  • Aaronela O.

Excellent quality burger for $5 and change. Though small, tap selection of brews is legit. Great stop for a burger and beer! My only complaint is that the bottom half of my bun immediately split in half dropping all my lettuce on the plate. I'm now sure why, as my burger wasn't overly greasy or anything.

Hook Burger Bistro - it is what it is, wonderful hamburger made with a gourmet twist. Yes, they even have turkey and chicken burgers if that is your thing. I love these burgers and always go here when I want a delicious burger. So many options too. All I can say is "I am HOOKED on Hook Burger".

    (5)
  • Daniel D.

In my opinion, the best burger in town. Also, it's pretty darn cheap for the high level of quality... easily a burger worth 8 bucks. Fast and overly friendly service. Use your calories wisely. Don't order fries and just eat 2 burgers, they are that good. For those comparing it to the Habit, as far as I know they are the same owner.

    (5)
  • Erica R.

I always order the chicken club and a glass of wine. The chicken club is simply delicious and the selection of wines they have are more than adequate. I love that there's a waiter who comes and brings the food to you (based on your number) and that they check on you a few times throughout your meal. I wish I could comment more on the food, but other than the chicken club and fries, that's all I've had. I keep ordering the same thing because it's so delicious. I've taken a star off because the line can be long and sometimes they only have one cashier working, which can be frustrating if you are fighting hunger pains. But the wait is well worth it and those hunger pains are quickly sure to be replaced by fullness pains!

Very surprised I didn't expect much but I was overly surprised. Got an order to go. Cheeseburger for my son and skirtsteak sandwich for myself. The burger was a nice sized patty and had good taste. Good price. I ordered the skirtsteak medium rare and that's exactly what I got. I delicious sandwich jammed with meat. When i'm in the area, i'll definitely stop back.

The first impression is a fast food joint with more flare. I ordered the hickory burger and was it ever juicy. The first bite to the last was pure flavor and deliciousness. Most burgers will dry out as you chew not this one and the added bacon and BBQ sauce made it all the more enjoyable. The fries are good as well but being shoe string its not easy to share.

  • David S.

I really enjoy this restaurant. The burgers are awesome and the onion rings are the best!! To try something new, I opt for the sweet potato fries. I have yet to try all their milk shakes but the cookies and cream shakes are da bomb!!! Only downside, the place is kinda small and when it gets crowded, finding a seat can be hard. Try this place if you haven't, you won't be sorry!

First off, I only review burgers. Whenever venturing outside of the OC/LA area, I always yelp to see if there are any burger places worthy of a visit. Hook Burger Bistro showed promise because of the website and number of positive yelp reviews so we added it to our list of destinations. Great decision. WHAT I ORDERED: Main --- Prime Burger: 4/5 Very good burger. The caramelized onions gave it an overall sweetness Hickory Burger: 4/5 Also a very solid burger. Reminded me of Stacked Sides --- Sweet Potato Fries: 4/5 Standard goodness Regular Fries: 3/5 No complaints STAFF: Very friendly. We were given menus at the door while we waited in line. WAIT TIME: Quick and we came at noon on a Friday. Place was crowded, but we got a seat in the patio. PORTION: Decent sized burgers. Patties could be a tad thicker, but overall, no complaint BANG FOR YOUR BUCK Very cheap for the quality of burger you get. The only thing keeping this from getting the full 5 stars is there was an extra charge for cheese. Come on now... WOULD I RETURN If I was in the area...definitely!

We had been looking forward to trying this place for a while and last night we finally had time to go. The place was clean, not packed and the staff was very attentive and friendly. I had looked at the menu online and had the Seared Ahi Tuna Sandwich on the brain when I walked in. My finance's mind was set on the Hickory Burger. I have a standard rule that I break more than I keep. If you go to a place with a food item in the title (like Burger) you should get that item. This is one of those times I really wish I had followed that rule. I ordered the Seared Tuna Sandwich rare, it was cooked just past the point of well done, The menu claimed there was a "homemade wasabi tartar" my sandwich was tasteless beyond the red onion on it. I do not know if they forgot the tartar or if it was just weak but I did not get any sort of wasabi flavor at all. Such a big disappointment from the awesome picture and description in the menu. My finance's Hickory Burger on the other hand was GREAT. What she couldn't finish I gladly gobbled up. We got both the regular and sweet potato fries and both of those were tasty as well, though for me the sweet potato was the clear better of the two. Overall it was a mixed bag for us, I would give the sandwich 2/5 the burger 4/5 and the sides 4/5 that said based on the price and the few bites I got of that Hickory Burger I would be happy to go back and give it another shot, this time staying far away from anything that does not have Burger in the title. I would not be surprised if I felt the need to bump that 3 stars up to 4 after a more satisfying trip.

For the price, my Bistro Burger patty was small and literally fell apart. The shredded lettuce, tomatoes were too wet and made the entire bottom bun soggy and hard to eat with my hands. The bun was tasty and nice ambiance but not a standout burger.

I was impressed with this spot. It did me right on this visit. Burger was nice and I loved the buns. Fries were cooked perfect and seasoned perfectly. The price, 5$ for a burger, was awesome in my opinion. They also had local Central California wine country wines too. Bottom line- It cost the the same price as a fast food spot and its 100% better. You will not be disappointed.

This place feels like a lounge...they serve beer and wine....We ordered 3 burgers 3 frys and 3 beers total was just under 40bucks!!! WWWHHHAATTT U CANT BEAT THAT WITH A STICK BALL BAT LOL. Yummy! I definitely recommend it! Meats: Hormone free, free range. Great quality Brioche bun: great taste, but gets soggy easily Bistro burger: good, but not a fan of the avacados Turkey burger: excellent standard turkey burger Shoestring fries: crisp and well salted. Chocolate shake: ok. Served in plastic to-go cups? Atmosphere: modern decor, casual atmosphere Service: very friendly! Cost: ~$20 for two burgers, a side of fries, and a shake.

It's a little up there in terms of price, because its around $10 for a burger, fries, and drink. It's worth it for the variety and quality of food. I'm a weekly regular at this place. Highly recommended!

Not the best burger, but still pretty solid. I really enjoyed the hickory burger as well as the platter of sweet potato fries, regular fries and onion rings. I left stuffed. I also dig their cream soda. It was delish.

Order the Turkey burger. My order in the turkey burger w/ Swiss cheese protein style no mayo, grilled onion and mustard= perfection. The side salad is perfect w/ balsamic and the sweet potato fries are on point. If you are wondering why I only recommend the turkey burger, it is just a matter of preference for me- being that it is in no way greasy. If you like a greasy burger or the prime burger ita made with chuck (ew). Either way this place has something for everyone

Holy cow this place is AWESOME!!! I was told to pick up some food from Hook Burger on my way to my sister's place and I had no idea what the menu was. I called and the guy who answered explained what they had so patiently and got everything ready for me to pick up within 15 mins. It was awesome. AND the prices are sooooo amazing. I was so pleasantly surprised about the bill. The Bistro Salad with chicken=muah! AMAZING. Sweet potato fries=YUMMMM BBQ Chicken Sandwich=nom nom nom Thank you Hook Burger. Amazing food, excellent services, really fantastic prices. Can't be beat. So happy this place is in Oxnard so I can go to it from time to time. And next time, I'll staying to eat there to enjoy a fabulous beer on tap or maybe a glass of wine :)

This was an unexpected surprise! Stopped in on a whim without even looking up Yelp reviews -- and I had no idea that this is a spin-off from the owners of The Habit local chain. There's a small bar area (the register where you order is next to the bar) and booth, table/chair and outdoor seating. There's a pair of flatscreen TVs above the bar, and another one off in the corner -- great for some Sunday football viewing (but note that TVs are muted; they have music playing inside). They have about 8 draft beers, which is NICE. I ordered the Hickory Burger and fries -- the fries were decent (albeit shoestring, not my fave), and the burger was great. The crispy onions that come on top really make the Hickory burger -- and make it look huge! Definitely plan on stopping in again next time I'm in the 'Nard...

I came to Hook Burger today and got the bistro burger. It was good. I also got the onion rings and they where a bit greasy. I know onion rings are deep fried but when I bit into them it was almost like drinking oil. I get them all the time and today was just over the top. Maybe they where just having an off day. I come to Hook on a regular basis and I do enjoy their food. My favorite thing to get is bistro salad with grilled chicken. The citrus dressing is very good. The service here is always top notch. I would recommend Hook Burger.

All I can say is that it's one of the best burgers in town. I had the hickory bacon burger and it was perfect, the fried onion crips on the burger gave it such the right flavor. I will be coming back for sure, great place, great food, great service .

I came to finally the burgers, because my friends from work told me about the burgers And how good they are. But I came in and placed my order. Had to wait 30 mins because they mess up my order. When I finally got my burger it was well done and I order it medium rare. But I was already hungry so I ate anywAy. It was good but. Had to wait 30 mins fora burger. The manager did nothing about just brought it to the table and walked away. I had to wait for the ketchup. Because he just walked away. Bad service

3.5 Very good. Great service. Hamburger patties on the thin side but cooked to order. Nice carmelized sweet onions, perfect bacon, fresh tasty bun and selection of cheese. Liked the shredded fresh lettuce---ate my burger with knife and fork. The burger deserved deli mustard but no, only standard French's----big mistake in my opinion. Had regular thin and chewy french fries nicely presented in cone. Stella on tap served in an ice cold glass (this is a huge plus factor for me). Total bill for two: $20. I like the concept of this average-priced burger joint but considering the drive from Thousand Oaks, not quite worth it. Charge me a little more and serve a more substantial thick patty of Angus. Had the burger been a little larger and appropriate mustard served AND please, perfect crispy fries this would be a solid 5.

Delicious! I'm happy the burgers are good! I love that they sell traditional European fries! That was a really nice suprise :). I'm all up for coming here and getting a delicious burger when I need some cheering up! Grab some extra napkins because sometimes the burgers can get out of control :).

This was our first time here...you order at the counter and then they bring the food to you. Prices were pretty reasonable and the food was brought out very quickly! Between the two of us, we shared the Hickory Burger, the Bistro Salad, and the Trio (sweet potato fries, reg fries, and onion rings)...soooo good and plenty of food. We will definitely be back to try the other stuff on the menu...oh, and the service was exceptional for a fast food place!

Great burger, great fries, nice atmosphere...REALLY good price. Most similar burger spots are twice as pricey, so for value, Hook is the bomb.

Why is Umami so popular when Hook has better food, better prices, and a less pretentious atmosphere. My buddy and I really loved our meals. I don't remember the name of the burger I had, but it was delicious. My buddy got the steak burger and was surprised to see that the meat was actual steak slices, not ground up shoulder meat that passes for "steak" in so many other places. Our food came in roughly 10 minutes and the service was great. This place should really be much more well-known than it is. In my book, it far outpaces Umami (you can read my reviews about them).

Ive came here once had the bistro burger it was ok pretty good flavor but nothing to wet ure pants over. From what I can remember it was a bit pricey but not too bad. I think the habbit is much better and cheaper then hook.

Hook is a nice upgrade from regular burger places in that it's ambiance is casual, chill, yet refined. That's about it. I ordered a Prime Burger with fries. The burger was ok, it came on a little wire-rack-like "plate" lined with wax paper and two pickle slices on the side. I tried to like it. I did. Maybe the bun was too thick or the lettuce/$.75 slice of cheese/sauce was overpowering, but the flavor of the meat was lacking. Sad face. I finished my burger with the thought that I should've gone to In' n' Out or Winn's for my burger fix. Hype defeated. The fries weren't that much better. I felt that they were too thin and, for lack of a better word, blah. The fries did, however, come in an appealing, wire cone "cup," again, lined with wax paper. Cute presentation, mediocre food. Bottom line: ~$16 for two burgers and fries... really? I DO want to come back and try a different burger, though! Maybe I'll have better luck with that... maybe.

My friends and I chose the Hook Burger Bistro completely on a whim after pondering on what new place to try. As soon as we entered the establishment, we were greeted by a very kind waitress. As it was seemingly obvious we were first-timers to the bistro, the waitress informed us on what to do. Their burger was pretty decently sized and priced, but its taste was quite delicious. For appetizer, I'd strongly recommend getting "The Trio" if you have a group of 3 or 4. It's a modestly sized appetizer consisting of regular french fries, onion rings, and delicious sweet potato fries. If you're ever in the area I'd definitely recommend checking out Hook's Burger Bistro

This place isn't bad, not 5 star good like a Father's Office, but it makes an attempt. It's nice to see these "finer" classier dining places popping up in The Nard. The prices are reasonable. The burgers are slightly overcooked especially for prime beef (I'm not sure why they didn't ask how I wanted mine cook, other than the ahi burger). I had the bistro burger, tasted pretty good, nice mix especially with the peppers heightening the flavor. Also had the ahi burger, not a big fan of these seafood burgers, but my mom enjoyed it. Also had the trio of sides (fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings) ... all were pretty good, and they give you a lot. Enough to share. Overall, nice place in Oxnard...hope to see more of these establishments pop up!

The people behind the already delicious Habit Burger decided to get fancy and open an upscale burger joint bringing the 'Nard the classiest, most delicious burger I've had in all of Ventura County! FINALLY!!! Along with the addition of Urbane Cafe it's great to finally see some legit restaurants in Oxnard and not another Jack in the Crack or Taco Bell (not to knock JITB as we all love it after last call.) So let's get down to business. I've had the Hickory burger twice. Excellent flavor, juicy meat and a toasted bun. Nice presentation as well. Sweet potato fries were good and the ranch was perfect. A good ranch dressing is VERY IMPORTANT and can make or break one's experience at a restaurant FYI. Basically costs the same as going to Carl's Jr but with first class burger quality?! Of course this joint gets FIVE STARS from Rie-Rie!

After months of reading and hearing about how good Hook Burger was, I decided to try it out. I was actually very excited and had very high expectations for this place! I must say that it met my expectations. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. DELICIOUS!! Let's start with the sandwich. It came on a French roll and was a generous size. The chicken was cooked right, juicy and the BBQ was good (I wonder if they make their own sauce?). I finished the whole thing because it was THAT delicious! This was my first time trying sweet potato fries and I am glad I had them here because they were great. I am a fan of them now and will probably not go back to regular fries. Overall, I had a very satisfying meal for $8. The place itself is very chill. It makes you want to stay there and keep on hanging out with friends. I rather come watch a game here over BJ's any day. They have a good selection of beer, which I will try next time I go. The service was great as well; it did not just feel like any other burger place you visit where they take your order and forget you are there. The employees here came once or twice to our table to make sure everything was ok. Props to them! One thing I would like to see in the menu is a turkey burger. Their burgers looked really good but I do not eat red meat so I doubt I will be able to try them :(. Offering turkey burgers as an option would definitely increase my visits to this place. For now, I will stick with the sandwiches. Glad this place is in Oxnard!

I hate to do this after I've been telling people about this place, but however today I brought my friend here cause of the yummy sweet potatoe fries. My mother met up with us to order food and bring some to my dad and sister. Well whenever I come in I order the same thing, the bistroclub. My friends ordered a prime burger and a bistroburger, my mom ordered the bistroburger as well. This is where it goes down hill for me. I was eating my sanwhich and it was good until I started having a funny feeling about the avocado. I'm not a fan of it but I'll eat it if it's in my sanwhich, but I started to feel bloated. I finished half of it and I felt super bloated. I thought I was just full, I struggled to eat the second half. (note that I haven't eatin all day, so nothing prior to this I could blame these symptoms on). We left and I went to the atnt store which was like not even far from the place, but I felt like throwing up. Not even the full kind of throwing up, but I feel like I ate something bad, and I need to get it out of me throwing up. I came home and what was the first thing I did? Went to the bathroom, as soon as it came in..... It all came out! Haha gross right.?? Yes gross I had a feeling it was the avocado and was i right! To save you the details, just use your imagination of what happen or how I know! My mom started feeling sick, feeling the same symptoms as with my dad and my sister. We all had avocado that's the only connection we could make. So just becareful what you eat from them, if something doesn't taste right take it back! I'm not trying to scare people away, just letting you know so you have a heads up. Consumer beware! Everything else, from my previous post still stands from the decor ,customer service and all that jazz, just wanted to end on a good note

Not really that impressed with Hook Bistro. Maybe my hopes were set too high by other reviewers on Yelp. Parking was very convenient, and there was a spot right out in front which is always a plus for us, because my husband's precious muscle car must be in his view at all times (rolling eyes). We walked in, and got stopped by a greeter who started reading off the menu that was RIGHT IN PLAIN SIGHT. I can read the menu just fine (or maybe we looked too old and feeble). Finally, we ordered after learning all about every item on the menu from our upbeat sprite of a greeter and both got burgers. I got the sweet potato fries, he got regular. There were plenty of booths available, so we grabbed one with a view of his beloved V-8 chariot. They were comfy! Good amount of room, too. My husband loves him some Hamburger Habit, so you can imagine his excitement of the perfect trifecta: Habit burger + TVs + comfy booths (I guess it's a quad-fecta if that's a word...because he could see his 550 horses out the window too). The excitement was short lived. Our server brought our food in a wire basket with wax paper lining. His order was wrong. Sauce on his burger when he asked for plain. The fries were weirdly chewy like they'd been reheated. The bun was fantastic though. The server took his burger back however the laughing by the cooks as they handed her a newly prepared sandwich uncomfortably led me to believe that hubby was getting a little something extra on his bun this time. He ate it anyway. :( Our server wasn't very friendly, she'd ask us how our food was and if we asked for a condiment it was like we were inconveniencing her. The ranch was watery, and it got on my shirt. Ketchup and grease from the burger leaked through the flimsy paper in the basket and got all over our table. I appreciate that Hook wants to bridge the gap between fast food and a bar&grill but presentation is everything. Don't try too hard, Hook. Just go back to the basics. Give me a plate! Give me a server with more training! You're a Bistro, Hook... make me feel comfortable as a patron.

Interesting concept. This is a quick-service restaurant where you order and pay at a cashier, and then staff brings your food out to your table. The restaurant also has a bar that serves microbrews. The only thing that was a little odd is that unless you've been there before, it's not clear what you're supposed to do when you walk in, i.e. sit down and wait for a server or go over to the bar area and order. Luckily, I went during the lunch rush so simply had to follow what everyone else was doing. Otherwise, I probably would have sat down and waited for a server like a dork. Perhaps they should post a sign with instructions. The food was fresh and tasty with a wide variety of burger combinations and side dishes. I ordered the veggie burger with a side salad, and both were very tasty and not too salty. Service was fast and efficient, and the restaurant was very clean. It was not super gourmet or unique or anything, but for what they were trying to accomplish, they did well. I would definitely go back the next time I am in the mood for a burger.

Was out in Oxnard for an errand that lasted longer than I expected. By lunch time, my friends and I were starving. Luckily we found Hook down the street, saw the menu & figured we would eat there. At first I thought it was a knock-off of The Counter, but no making your own burger here. I ordered the barbeque chicken salad (amazing!), my boyfriend had the flank steak sandwich (to die for), and his brother had the Hickory Burger (also fantastic!) Taking one-star off however because the fries just did not cut it for us. We had the trio (sweet potato fries, regular fries, and onion rings) and all of those items were greasy & lacked flavor. So if you're a huge fry fan like I am, I would suggest skipping out on the fries this time. Wish I lived closer to this place, but next time I'm in the Oxnard area, I'm definitely stopping by.

I went here for lunch today and I am so glad I did!! I've been meaning to try this place for awhile and finally got around to going. I love how it's decorated and the whole vibe of the restaurant. I ordered the Hickory Burger with fries and a water. The girls at the registers were great, very friendly. Since it was lunch time, it was a little crowded so I sat outside on the patio - very cute patio area. My food came out fairly fast. I was very impressed with the service, I never once had to ask for a refil or anything. Great food, great service, great experience!! I will for sure be back!!

Food and booze!?! I'm hooked as well. This place is owned by the peeps whom founded the Habit, they just wanted to create more "upscale burgers." Good food, new place, friendly service, beer on tap, and wine. Fast food ordering style with indoor and outdoor seating. Burgers are bomb, but i'd try the primo burger without the honey dijon mustard (not that much of a mustard person). Burgers are a yummier than the Habit and contain more beef on their patty. The average price of the burger? Around $5-8. Hook it up (combo it) for an additional $3.49 and you got fries and a drink. Fries (regular or sweet potato) are yummy and the burgers and sandwiches are delicious. The regular fries are similar to the fries from Hot Dog on a Stick, crispy and yummy. If you like the Habit and burgers, it's worth a try. Some other yummy things to try during next visits: their Ahi tuna sandwich, salads, strawberry cheesecake smoothie, onion rings

What an absolutely exquisite dining experience. Food was just wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. These people know a thing or two about customer service too. The place is clean and efficiently run. Everyone was smiling and checking up on us. They even held the door for us when we left. They pull out alllllll the stops. Two thumbs up. Can't wait to go back

I dunno...seems to me if you're running a burger joint then you better do burgers REALLY well. My burger was dry and flavorless...sort of non descript meat product. I wanted to taste a grilled flavor, but it just wasn't there. The bun to meat ratio was way off. (5 oz burger was a little small compared to the size of the.bun. The only special thing about this place were the two industrial light fixtures hanging over the booths.

They should call this place HOOKED UP Burger. After seeing Jose O.'s video of the massive burger, I bookmarked HB and waited till we were in Camarillo for a Soccer Tournament. After eschewing the close to the Holiday Inn sports bar next door, a dozen of us headed to HB after looking at some convincing pictures with a find something to please everyone menu, affordable prices. The restaurant has a clean, new and modern look. One of the employees opened the door for us and gave us menus. You order at the counter then they deliver to your table. The food came out fast, the beer and wine came out slow. They had a very decent selection of quality craft brews in the $5-6 range. Wine was $7 with one of our favorites Brander. The burgers start at $6 and add a patty fro $1.50 more, love that. I went with the hickory which was mounded high with bacon. It was about six -eight inches high. Thick patties and bun. Bun is a little too big but freshly made. The wife went Turkey with add avocado +$1. Chicken Tenders for the kid with fries and drink for $6, super fair. The trio has fries, sweet potatoes and onion rings, but the Rings are the standout so skip the others. Fries were real honest potatoes that tasted fresh and clean. The service was non stop and over the top. Clear your plates, refills, can I get you anything else etc all night long. Everyone was happy with this one.

Came in tonight for dinner and had a great experience. My niece and I shared the hickory burger and bbq chicken salad. My sister had the chicken sandwich. We also shared an order of fries and sweet potato fries. I was so hungry I scarfed down my burger. Every bite was mind blowing. Seriously. I even ate half of my niece's share. She didn't mind. The salad was one of the best things I've eaten in a while. Not just salad wise, but food wise. I don't even know what was in there. I just shoved it all in my mouth. My niece and sister couldn't stop saying how bomb it was. Hats off to the staff. There was something about tonight's team. They were on point. From the moment we walked in to when we left, every single person was just perfect. There's really no other word to put it. Perfect is it. They were just the right amount of everything. Friendly...check. Helpful...check. Accomodating...check. Everyone had a smile on their face and when you asked for something, they were on it. I left wanting to be friends with them. That's how awesome they were. Side note. I fully appreciate how clean this place is always kept. It's always the first thing I notice when I eat out. How tidy a place is. HB is always clean, even outside and everything is as it should be. I wish other establishments would take a page from their book. I want to kind of bring together all the managers from the places in the county where I've dined and had a horrible experience and make them see where they're lacking. Come in here for a meal and find out the proper way to treat your customers. So kudos to the managers and staff of Hook Burger for doing it right. Keep up the great work.

I'm hooked! We stumbled upon this place today. Awesome burgers, the best sweet potato fries I have ever had and great customer service! The patties are 80% beef and only 20% fat opposed to your average burger joint with 50% patty and 50% fat. All the sauces are made with the owners recipe and taste amazing! You must give this place a visit you'll be hooked too!!

I saw the 4 but of course, I didn't expect it to be Yay! I'm a fan material..I just hoped an a-ok experience and that's exactly what I got :D On the real though, customer service is clean. Super friendly, saw who appeared to be a supervisor being very attentive, his cashier left to take something to a table and he jumped right in, high five for that sh. Food, well it was alright, can't complain. The prices are highly reasonable which make you not feel ripped off about the food being just okay. The burgers will get the job done if you're hungry, it isn't a thick burger patty so ordering your meat a certain way will have not that much of an affect. The bun was solid, I liked that it wasn't too thick and complimented the portion of the meat well. 3/5 Onion rings- terrible, they were overly fried and just didn't taste well like that. Too hard at the bite 1/5 Sweet potato fries- these were alright, not the best but certainly not the worst, had a good taste to them, 3/5 Fries- eh. All there is to say. 2/5 This place is okay to try on a Wednesday night after doing some outlet shopping in Camarillo, but anything else would be a sacrifice of other better things out there.

We were out here for work and looking for a safe place to eat. Awesome food! We had a high end environment with average lunch budget. I had the hickory burger. The bacon slices were thick and the beef was juicy. The fries tasted fresh. An amazing lunch. Clean place. Friendly staff.

A-okay considering the cheap price. A server delivered my French fries and medium-rare Prime burger with bleu cheese several minutes before my shake. By the time the shake came, the food was no longer hot. My fries were hardly warm, making me think they were never hot. The potato fries and chocolate shake were mediocre. I would not order either again because the fries taste typical and the shake is not made from real chocolate ice cream, but rather some concoction with Nesquik-like artificial chocolate syrup. I even asked the order-taker if it would have a rich chocolate taste, and he said they can make it however "chocolately" you like. Should have taken that as a sign. The burger was by far the best part. The patty was true to medium rare, being pink in the middle with some juices. No soggy bottom bun, though the bread was not flavorful. The service was friendly and my waiter asked if I would like BBQ sauce or ranch once he delivered my food. The seating is nice too with lots of wood tables, booths, and sunlight or outside seating. It's a decent burger, though not homemade or gourmet tasting, and I wouldn't call it a destination eatery. I gave three stars to the Burger Lounge chain in San Diego and those burgers are much better IMO, though pricier. Their shakes are made of real ice cream too!!

The damn we loved every single thing about this place! Got a Bistro Burger with a Caramel Latte Shake, a Bistro Sourdough Sandwich with an Oreo Shake, a Bistro Salad with Strawberry Cheese Cake Shake & Onion Rings. We unknowingly ordered 5 min to closing and still had an awesome first time that we will alway cherish and look back on with fond memories. The staff was on point. Atmosphere was welcoming and just right. Did I mention the shakes? Soo good! We already planned our next trip back to enjoy the other burgers and shakes, oh my!

I was in the neighborhood and couldn't resist another good burger, especially from the creators of the original Habit Burger!!! I had heard they had started a gourmet gig. I went inside and looking at the menu, and the monster burgers coming out of the kitchen i ordered the Hickory Burger--6.50 Thick cut bacon, Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce, homemade crispy onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo!! I got a side of regular fries and a frosty beer Too. The staff was great. you get in line to order the line moved fast too. Then they bring your food out. They come back by and see if you need a drink refill and if you liked the food, mind you the soft drinks are self serve. cool nice touch! Good atmosphere too they have a good sized patio if you like to eat outside. Since the guys that started the habit created these now I'm gonna have to seek them out all over LA like i do with The Habit. #2 down

First thing first...This is NOT your typical sit down restaurant. Think of it more like a hybrid fast food/sports bar. You order at the counter like any normal burger joint, then take your buzzer to your table and wait for your food. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere, food, and customer service. The atmosphere is awesome, its like a mini sports bar with lots of comfortable seating, I have always liked the big comfy booths. The burgers and salads are always super fresh and not only taste great, but are presented like a high end restaurant. Imagine seeing those tasty burgers on the menu ads or in commercials and then when you actually get it its all smashed and looks like someone just threw it together. Well that's not what you get here, they take pride in presentation. The only slight negative is that the fries are a little too "skimpy", only way I can describe them. But not that big of a deal. Lastly, the customer service. They always say high when you walk in and offer you a menu and ask if its your first time. When I checked them out for the first time they explained the ordering process for me and made suggestions. I got the Hickory burger based off of that suggestion and its my favorite burger now! This place is definitely near the top of my all time list.

I haven't been to this place in a while but it's always been good and they are still good today. Decor is nice and burger concept is simple. Although they do have other non burger items on the menu their strength is the their 5oz prime burgers. Overall very good.

Love this place. I love the bar, the shakes, the interior design, the burgers...but I hate the waiting. Please open another location in The Collection at least, so that my entire lunch break isnt swallowed waiting to be served.

Had a Bistro Club Sandwich (chicken, advocado, bacon, mayo, lettuce) and it was amazing. My boyfriend got the Hickory Burger (got to have a bite of it, and that was also scrumptious)! Their portions are big! You order in the front, get a table, and they deliver your order to you. The service is great! There's indoor and outdoor seating. My boyfriend and I chose to sit inside since their booths looked super comfy. Will definitely again!

Delicious, well portioned burgers (: that's really the only thing on the menu I eat but they're delicious, actually juicy, and the presentation of their food is very appealing and original. I am also impressed with the politeness of the staff. They are genuinely happy to serve you. Well, at least they seem that way (: thumbs up! Their manager must have his stuff down

I ran over here for a quick bite during my internship training across the street at St. Johns. My gosh was it packed for a small joint, the line was almost out the door and there were no empty seats. I had Urbane Cafe last week and wanted something different, I've heard great things about this place too. They have a few small flat screens and a beer/wine bar...nice for after work if you are close. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a root beer float and some fries. It took about 5-10 mins but it was ok considering the amount of people in there. The root beer float was delicious! The real vanilla bean ice cream really made the float. The craft root beer was also great...Definitely how all root beer floats should be..they've raised my standards on the floats. The fries were good but not as amazing as the float. They had a crunch to them since they were shoe strings but there wasnt as much seasoning as I had hoped. I tried to use ranch and chipotle aioli as dipping sauces but the creamy goodness couldn't overcome the blandness of the fries. I'll be updating my review after I try the tuna and veggie burgers. Seems that everyone loves the burgers here so I gotta try at least a couple to make an accurate judgement. Had to dock a star since a full meal would be pretty expensive and from what I observed, the sandwiches themselves were not that big. Cheers!

I cannot believe how cheap the burgers are for the quality and the taste of this food. This place can afford to charge you more yet they don't. The service, the food, and the ambience was wonderful. If I lived in this area I would eat these burgers everyday :-)

Wow, my wife and I are hamburger aficionados and for a burger place the Hook gets top marks! We love the Flat Iron Steak Sandwich and the Hickory Burger. We lean toward the Flat Iron Steak Sandwich because we find that the burgers, though very tasty, are a *little too small* for the bun (-1 Star). Whatever you choose, don't forget to ask for a side of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce and Ranch Dressing too - they're a necessity for good dippin'! Great beer selection and sometimes they slip in a surprise special selection (Ladyface!). The real winner is the great service and attitude we always experience from the Hook crew - consistently, and on every visit! Is it a cliche to say we're 'Hooked? ;)

Great burger, location, service, and fries. I always get the sweet potato fries and the pretzel burger. I had never had a pretzel burger before Hook, but now I seek to get them wherever I go. Their milkshakes are super thick and creamy. If you have room after your burger and fries get one!

Absolutely love the burgers. Have never had a bad burger from here, the hickory burger is a family favorite along with the maui burger. But if you just want a classic burger go with the prime burger. We do not like the fries from here at all, we find them tasteless and usually over cooked, we tried them a couple of times but never again. There chocolate shakes are killer, handmade and thick.

I drive by the Pasadena location all the time, just never at the time I am hungry. Finally, I made it to try their food in Oxnard and I have to say I loved it much more than I thought I would! Service is some of the best I have yet come across. Order at the counter, get a number and sit down. Super clean restaurant, plenty of free and easy parking out front. The menu is great, my only gripe is the veggie burger is a black bean by Morningstar. I love me a good veggie burger and while these are fine, I can get an 8 pack at the store cheaper than a single there. That was going to be enough to deduct a star as i don't eat much meat, but one bite of my cobb salad sub ahi for chicken and I knew I could happily eat there here every time. Then I took a bite of my husband hickory burger and it was just over, that was the best burger patty I have ever had! Sooooooo juicy, moist, well seasoned, mixed with the ingredients of the hickory burger sub pretzel bun was just INSANE! The only place I eat (beef) burgers are In N Out, but from now on Hook will be the other place! Cannot wait to come back here and get a burger, my son also loved his kids meal, though I think portion wise he can go for a regular size burger next time, they are made more for smaller children. Service and that beef is really what gave them a clear 5 stars on being an excellent place for burgers and from now on in our rotation when when we are close to one of their locations!

This was our first visit, but we'll be back. It's standard burgers, sandwiches and salads, but I really enjoyed what I got (a chicken bistro sandwich on sourdough, with cheddar cheese, bacon and avocado, and Dijon mustard.) Hubby got a Maui burger, topped with pineapple salsa and cheddar. The menu is a la carte, meaning you don't order a number; fries, side salads, and cole slaw are sides, and you pay separately for them. The fries are thin and crispy. So-good food, nice decor and friendly, attentive servers; can't ask for more.

The Habit with a gourmet twist. Burgers, salads, sandwiches... Everything is pretty much good here: the service, the food, the ambiance. Boyfriend prefers this place over Umami Burger. Says a lot since Umami was burger place of the year in 2010.

The food is good for a burger joint and they have my fav, Black Cherry Floats just like Mom used to make! Service is so-so. Tonight at 5 pm, I tried to call an order in because they take so long and got a automated message saying they didn't take calls until 2 pm...well, it was almost 5 pm. Called in another time and they said 15 min. My hubby got there and had to wait an additional 20 min. I like calling ahead because I am handicapped and cannot stand around in there for 20+ minutes waiting for food. I don't care to eat inside because it's noisy and the tables are greasy from previous diners so needless to say, we went elsewhere to pick up a called in dinner. Will I go back? Hard to say.

Probably the best burger I have ever had. I believe it was called the "prime burger".

Great food but the stars are for the staff. Most attentive and engaged staff you can find anywhere and they aren't even working for tips! How they're making the staff so happy I would love to find out. A+++

I had the hickory burger it was yummy! My only complaint is the bun fell apart by the second bite. My grandmother liked hers and her bun didn't fall apart. Could have been a one off! The fries are good also and the ranch is on point! Boomchacalaca

  • Christopher L.

Pretty solid burgers. We took our order to-go. They were really quick, the burger was terrific (albeit messy). The fries were a bit soggy, but i think that was more of a function of fresh fries in a sealed container for 15 minutes, so I can't fault them for that. The root beer float was good too!

Great burger and is comparable to some of the best I have tasted at twice the price. Bistro burger is great and they will customize the burger for your child. Great services, sauces. I didn't see a big selection of cheese, but I could b wrong. Another pic showed Bleu cheese, but I didn't see that on the menu. Still great though! Would go back but I live far away. Will visit when I'm in the area. Went on a Sunday after the strawberry festival and the place was not as busy as it probably is during the week.

Yo Devine! Bring the Hook Back! I like this place. It's a cross between a high class wine bar and a down home burger joint. The burgers are PERFECTLY priced. I am not joking. I believe the Prime Burger (their basic, but far from basic) is $6.50, and it is worth every penny. $7.00 would even be acceptable, but I need that discount! They aren't even annoyed with those people who have to "add and subtract", essentially not ordering what's on the menu. The other burgers (I think I've hit them all on the menu) are also amazing. And I absolutely have to have the onion rings, no matter how many cals it adds, because they are great. The new year is the only reason I haven't been back this year, but when I give up on my healthy eating goals I'll head back in. Also, there's beer. So there's a thing. I don't even know if you can order the wine from the bottles they use to decorate.

Good food and excellent service. The trio is great you don't have to decide on the fries. The service is amazing.

This would be a nice place to eat if they would lower their prices. The employees were very helpful and polite. Burger was good. Shake was yummy. But like I said $11.88 is a bit high for those two items.

I was disappointed my last time here. The person up front didn't add fries to my order. I had to go back and re-order when I saw my receipt. The fries took a very long time and by the time they were delivered my burger was cold. They also ignored us when we wanted more soda. The food was alright.

We love Hook Burger! The food is excellent. From burgers, to tri-tip sandwiches, to the scrumptious sweet potato fries (with special dipping sauce); you can't go wrong here. We frequently bring our dogs and eat out on the patio. The service is generally outstanding, but they do get busy, so sometimes you may have to wait a few extra seconds or flag someone down for a drink refill.

  • Tom H.

$24 two burgers, two drinks, firies. Not worth that. Staff fairly dense. Ask you if you want to "make it a meal" and the you ask if you get a drink and they say "you want a drink." bill is not itemized. How a two six dollar bursts comes out to $24 with two cokes a fries is beyond me. Ripoff.

We have been there twice already although new to town. A reasonably priced gourmet burger. The drinks are a bit pricey (I would guess that is where they make their money) but they have Newcastle, Fat Tire and other good brews on tap. I tried the regular burger and the barbecue burger, and both were great--very flavorful. I like the seating area (a fan of booths) and the old American flag on the wall--an interesting historical touch. They do play the music a tad too loud.

The Hook burgers are tasty. I had the Hickory burger, one daughter had a plain burger and one had the Bistro burger. My wife had Tuna on sour dough she always has at the Habit. We also split an order of regular fries and sweet potato fries. We arrived at 11:45 and there was plenty of parking in the lot, no wait to order and our choice of seating. The food came quickly and people were quick to refill your drink. I really enjoyed the Hickory burger. The Bistro burger, on the other hand, was rated as inedible by someone who will eat most anything. I don't think the red peppers agreed with her. We all agreed that the shredded lettuce was a letdown. I would have expected hand shucked leafs on an upscale burger. The fries came in a paper cone and were OK. Nice and crisp but the flavor was a little off. Finally, the place was *L*O*U*D*. They had music TV blasting out the sound system. It was so loud we could not talk without having to shout over the TV. In all, the burger was very good. Maybe I will sit outside next time in hopes that the road noise is less obnoxious than the indoor ambiance.

First time I went to this place I decided to order a cheeseburger combo meal. Burger was a bit on the small side, flavor was good. I was a bit dissapointed maybe ill try something different on their menu next time. Great customer service though, I asked for ranch and got some in a flash, needed a soda refill and it too was refilled in a flash. See ya next time Hook!

I've been here 3 times already and each time I get the consistant amazing service. Employees are genuinely nice. Service is fast and always good! Manager cared if it was our first time or if we were repeating customers. So glad this place exists on my side of town! Hickory Burger is awesome. Fries are good & they have passion fruit ice tea. Maybe it's a bad idea it's so close to home because I crave it!

I come here all the time for lunch- though I've only had a burger and fries here once (and onion rings- all very tasty), I always get the salads or ahi tuna burger without the sauce. But what prompted this review was the the half roast chicken I had last week. I have to say, I do love roasted chickens, rotisserie style chickens, but this one is something else. The flavor is SO good, not salty and very herb-y tasting. I got the coleslaw too (good, but has celery and I'm not a celery fan). I'll definitely be getting this every single time, it's so juicy and smells amazing too. I love their salads as well, lots of yummy toppings like goat cheese, Gorgonzola, walnuts, cranberries and avocado. The presentation of each plate is so pretty too, and the atmosphere is awesome also! Your food is brought out to you and they're so nice here, always refill your drink and make sure you have any sauces or utensils you desire. I'm so happy this place is so close to my work, because I definitely love being able to sit down in a cool looking restaurant and enjoy some delicious, fresh food.

I discovered this new place to dine and was pleasantly surprised by our experience. There are not alot of great places to eat in the Oxnard/Camarillo area so I was really hoping the Hook would be a hit and it was. The decor is simple, sleek, mixed with modern and a bit of a rustic feel. Very comfortable. I liked the look of the restaurant alot. The service was friendly and quick. My husband ordered the Steak sandwich which came on a garlic toasted bun. It was delicious, especially dipped in A1 sauce, yum. I ordered the hickory burger with american cheese. It was good but not as good as my husband's choice. Cole slaw was fresh and crisp. We ordered the sweet potato fries but they were forgotten from our order. The manager came over to apologize and brought them out just as soon as they were ready... which was when we were finished with our meal. They bagged them up for us to take home and the manager gave us a coupon to come back for a free burger. I thought that was going above and beyond and was very delighted. We will most certainly be back

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile based on prior Yelp reviews and I am quite glad I did. I ordered Hickory Burger: good quality meat, nice bun, the barbecue sauce was not overwhelming and the bacon was a nice addition. My husband and I shared the fries which were quite good, thin but not over done; very fresh! My husband had the chicken sandwich; the chicken was pulled pieces rather then a chicken breast cut in half. It took my husband a little getting used to but ultimately he really enjoyed it. Service was very helpful and attentive. I do agree that it is LOUD in the restaurant, but the decor was nice. I liked that there were a lot of booths to select from. I would definitely go back and try another burger!

Really 3 1/2 stars. A little pricey for not full service place. Glad they are using plates not the baskets they had when it first opened. I like it for dinner better than lunch. Lunch is too, hustle bustle to relax. I'd order double patty to,avoid a "where's the beef" moment. Nice choice of toppings and salads.

This place is awesome! My family and I frequent this burger bistro at least once every couple weeks. My husband and stepdaughters favorite burger is the Hickory burger with blue cheese and American cheese. I myself enjoy the Hook burger with American. However I am partial to the onion rings. The place has a nice atmosphere and the service is great. You walk in order and get your number and take a seat, the nice staff brings your food fairly quickly and your on to a very enjoyable experience. Not only does the bistro look nice but the food is great too...

Almost exactly a year after my first review of this place, I decided to give it another shot. This time I went with the turkey burger with cheddar cheese and added avocado. The hubby had the chicken sandwich and we shared the trio. To drink, I had the root beer float and the hubby had the coffee shake(?). Both drinks were EXCELLENT! I loved that they used good quality bottled root beer for the float and the vanilla bean ice cream was flavorful and creamy but did not completely melt into the root beer. Next, my turkey burger was delicious however I was completely envious of my husband's chicken sandwich! The chicken sandwich has cheese, bacon, tomato, and avocado. I took a bite and immediately wish i had ordered the same! For a burger joint, they definitely make an amazing chicken sandwich! Also to comment on my previous review, it looks as though they took my lettuce comment seriously as there is no more shredded iceburg lettuce, it is all fresh pieces of romaine. I'm very happy to see they take their customers seriously! I will be back, and often! :)

i was told to try this place by a few people and i was not disappointed i loved the prime burger( i drench everything with ketchup and this burger was so good i didnt feel the need to ruin it with ketchup) that says a lot by my standards ;) my fiance had the bbq chix sand and the chicken was soo yummy i tried to convince him to split it in half with me but he wasnt having it ;) next time ill just have to get my own bbq chx sand.. the only thing i didnt like was that i didnt see any menus besides the computerized display by the cashier, since it was my first time there i felt a little rushed to order bc the letters on the computer menu are so tiny u cant see them until u reach the cashier station..next time ill just bring my glasses ;) ps. service was great.

YUMMY!! By far the best Burger I have had in a long time! I had been wanting to try this place out for a while and after my BFF said is was the best ever, well of course I had to go.... I went with my 2 boys after my son'sT-Ball game.... this place was poppin for a Tuesday night @ 7... sat in a spacious booth... Both my older son and I both ordered the Hickory Burger with Jack Cheese... I mean what is a burger w/o cheese!!! I put xtra BBQ sauce on mine.... which is so tangy and good! We ordered the Trio (I was REALLY hungry..lol) comes with Fries, Onion Rings, and Sweet Potato Fries... DELISH btw.... My younger son odered the kids Chicken Tenders with the side Ceaser Salad.. No, of course he didn't eat the salad... he is only 6 people.. he wanted all the fries from the Trio basket!!!... I ate the Salad, which was so good.... He ate all the chicken, both of the boys ate all the fries, half of the onion rings and they topped it all off with their own Shakes... Special ordered a plain Chocolate Shake for my youngest and my oldest had the Carmel Latte Shake... yum... I just drank the drink that came with the kids meal.... Yes the 3 of us put away ALL that food... I was starving!!! LOL. It was a feast! The price was fair, the place was super clean, the staff was very courteous, polite, and friendly. I highly recommend Hook.... you won't be disappointed!

had food brought in yesterday. got myself your basic burger. got raw onions not cooked. love my raw onions. got some sweet potato fries. seeing how this was take out, and it did take some time to get here to there.. the food wasnt the warmest. so i imagine it would get better rating had i got the stuff hot off the grill. burger could have been cooked a bit more, and the patty was pretty thin i will say. still was a good burger. for less than 10 bucks i got that and a soda too. the sweet potato fries were a big container too.

Burgers were delicious. I was impressed with their selection of beer on tap. It is vast. We had hickory burger with big slabs of bacon on it ,chocolate milk shakes and onion rings. They brought our food out to us and were very friendly. The only gripe I have is that the music was too loud. I was trying to have a conversation and found myself trying not to shout. Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy? Anyways I would recommend it and I will eat there again. It's not diet food and it's not fast food so you get what you pay for.

there burgers and fries are on point. fresh and delicious, period. i'm picky about sweet potato fries but there's are delicious. normal fries and onion rings are good too. pretty much everything here is good, can't go wrong. about $10 a person for a meal. soooo damn good.

  • Scott C.

Overrated; I especially think that after reading the reviews on Yelp. If you're in the Rose Ave area of ghettonard and have a craving for a burger, I guess you could do worse. It's basically the Habit with a few different things. The meat isn't seasoned at all but the burger is thicker. The meat at the Habit tastes better but they use those cheap skinny hamburger patties. The fries and the onion rings are idential to the Habit. I also got a vanilla bean shake...the shakes are better the Habit.

ill keep this one short...it wasnt bad, just didnt live up to the hype and the fries tasted like fish. on that note, the night i was there was busy as all hell but the service was still really good...did another gander with take-away, fries still tasted like fish

I had the absolute worst experience here! Not only do they not take phone orders, but they dont have a voicemail that says anything useful so I wasted my time trying to verify I had the right number and continuing to call hoping someone would eventually pick up the phone! When I finally got there, I had to stand in a loooong line of customers (both dine-in and to-go) before even placing an order with the cashier. They had two cash registers and one cashier-what a waste...although not as wasteful as the useless employee standing in back of my cashier doing nothing but irritating me further. Finally, after another 20 minute wait, I was able to get my order but was still missing the condiments that I clearly ordered at the register. I feel that this restaurant is not at all ready to be open. Yes, they have good food, but not at all good enough to make me come back.

I went here with my sister for a late lunch knowing it would be busy during normal lunch hours. The decor is really nice, if i remember correctly nearly the entire inside is filled with booths. I really like the layout, there are no stupid pictures on the walls or annoying art. There is a big american flag in a case with a little plaque that looks good. This place is surprising classy for a burger place and the area its in. It is well done and classy. Ok now the food. The menu is small with not a lot of options, which IMO is a good thing. Not a lot of variety but what they do make is great, they also serve beer but I don't like beer so I could care less, but for those who like a burger and beer it does serve a purpose. I ordered a hickory burger with a side of sweet potato fries and fresh brewed ice tea: It was really good, the meat is really good and juice, the bread and bacon was amazing, the topping's were fresh and the BBQ sauce was sweet and tangy. The only down side is that the fries were from a frozen bag and I could actually tell the difference since I have had fresh cut ones at other locations. the icea tea was fresh and good. My sister had the bistro burger which was good but reminded me a lot of the habit char burger. The only down side if I had to complain was the price. For a burger, sweet potato fries and drink I paid nearly $12, for a semi-fast food lunch. I think it should of been priced in the mid to high $10 range and not closer to $12. yes they bring you your food but you still order at a counter so it doesn't justify a restaurant price.

Hooked has got me Hooked! I love everything about this place. The atmosphere is great, service is great, prices are great, and their food is great! My favorite burger on the menu is the prime burger! It was simple yet so delicious! My husband had the hickory burger and that was also delicious. The onion strings on the hickory burger were a little over done for the both of us but the burger was still very good. I think the sweet potato fries here may just be my favorite. The onion rings were also very good. Everything we had was great. Great sauces to go along with the burgers or sides. Great selection of beers on tap and wine available. Can't wait to go back to try other things on the menu, wish there were more of these around!

  • Rose R.

Stopped by here on the way home from all points North. I think my burger was better than the one I had at my local The Habit. The onion rings were good, and so were the sweet potato fries. However, the texture, shape, and size of the shoestring potatoes were just horrid. I'd go again for the burgers if I lived in the area.

Seeing the high praise this place had received in the yelp community in such a short period of time, I was excited to try this place. Quality food this place serves. I had a bistro burger? hook burger? not sure the exact name but it seems as if its the default burger. It was one of the best burgers I've had in a while. It for sure exceeds anything I've tried in Oxnard. The flavors blended very well together, the meat and the bread, you could taste the quality. Onion rings and sweet potatoes fries were also good, but the burger took the spotlight! And for the gourmet burgers they serve, its very affordable! This place is different from a regular fast food burger joint. I don't just want to eat and go, its definitely more of a social place. Having beer on tap always adds to that! The place is plain inviting and the staff is super friendly. They successfully gave me the impression that they actually wanted me there. Definitely a place you could come for the food and the atmosphere. Too bad it is located in an intersection I always want to avoid

It was yummy. Ambience was LOUD! Music, people, grill...a little too much noise if you ask me. I little more pricey than used to but thats ok because the food was very tasty. If your a fan of The Habit like I am you'll love this place because everything was kicked up a couple notches but some of the familiar flavors. You order at counter & food is brought to your table. Waitresses ask if you need refills & clear your tray/dish. I didn't like the way the menu is displayed. There is a flat screen t.v. (42'?) displayed lengthwise but the words are to small to read until you are AT the actual counter. So you just stand there reading while the guy waits to take your order. Looks like Oxnard doesn't only have tacos & burritos to choose from now & I like this! Check out my food pics.

  • Yuri G.

This place is better than the habit and probably one of the better burgers you can get in VC! the burger patty itself is thick and juicy and the burger bun it's served on reminds me of a brioche bread it was good and different then the standard bun you get everywhere else. What's a burger without a good bun!?!? The service is also good The staff was nice and attentive. I liked the atmosphere inside it wasn't too busy when I went my burger came out right away! It all depends on what time you go obviously!

I'm definitely a fan especially since Oxnard rarely gets places as good as this! Bistro Burger is delish with its avocado. I got great service from a young lady who gave me a sample of the passion ice tea with lemonade. I ordered passion iced tea & she asked me if I ever tried it with lemonade. Good mix! Can't forget their sweet potato fries!! How about drinking some orange cream soda with ice cream.. gotta have that too. They let you take the bottle home :) I like the interior of the place. I'd come back since it's also a bar. Decent prices and glad its right next to fresh & easy, walgreens, urbane cafe, & cafe rio. Good choice of food!

One of my co-worker recommended that I give this place a try. I will definitely have to thank her. My husband & I enjoyed looking at the decor while we waited to place our order. There was a wait but I sort of expected it. It's new with many 4 star reviews on yelp. I ordered prime burger along with hef, & the trio. Our food came out blazingly fast, which I was not expecting as the joint was pretty crowded. The food did not disappoint us at all. I'm a bit of sweet potato fries fanatic and this was one of the best ones I had so far. Onion ring was a big hit for the both of us. We didn't care much for the regular fries, sorry Hook, very reason for giving 4 star. The service was great, especially Juliana. She made sure our stay was a good one. She was not only helpful with the questions we had and was extremely friendly. The entire staff did a great job as well, no complaints about the service, none what so ever. I would & will go back again.

OK I'm not going to exaggerate and say that this place was maximums prime ultra good. However when I think about it, this is the best burger joint in all of Oxnard. This restaurant is small in size (good thing) and a small menu! They have a menu for: burgers, sandwiches, salads and shakes! Judging by the burger, the taste is enormous! Love the taste, loved the presentation, loved the onion rings and sweet potatoes! I forgot the name of the burger I got, but it had, beef, cheese, avocado, grilled peppers, and pickles, i might be forgetting a couple of other ingredients. Perfect Californian burger, size was good, produce was fresh, bread and beef felt fresh, all what makes Californian cuisine different from the rest of the nation! Good job Hook! To drink I had a beer, a good old Paso Robles Firestone!! Go me and supporting local chains that support local products! And like others have pointed out, it is cheap! All this food I ordered was less than $15 including tip! The restaurant itself is had a really good decoration, it is not over done, they have white brick walls and wine bottled for some deco! The decoration is definitely modern, but not too modern where it feels really cold (Aka Starbucks). If this place was in downtown, I could definitely see myself coming here to watch the Laker game, the atmosphere was right! When I parked my car, I wad a little scared that the place was going to be too pretentious, but it wasn't. There wad sure a mix of people in the restaurant, young and old, so good mix! The staff was also great, since the place is new, it seems like they have not gotten annoyed with their jobs, they had natural smiles, no complaints there! They were also very helpful with the condiments that we needed and what not! They deserved a tip! I'll definitely come back again if I dare cross that busy intersection!

Here you'll find a solid burger, though what stands out most is the onion ring's and simple but elegant presentation. The batter on these rings is fantastic, a subtle sweetness with a great crunch leaving you wanting more after every bite. Here you'll find a solid burger, and sensational onion rings,

I got food poisoning here, had me running for the bathroom all night. I had an ahi tuna salad. There were scales in it, and the middle tasted frozen even though it was seared. The dressing was sub-par and the salad had too much/not enough going on all at once. Fries were nothing spectacular. Bacon burger was ok. Nearly 4 dollars to make your entree a meal with a dinky soda and cup of fries-- not really all that cool. I didn't like how there was a tipless waitstaff. Meaning, people bring you food and check on you throughout your meal, but you don't tip them. That seemed kind of nice to me. It was like they were trying to make this place into one of those suburban niches and failed. Really sweet wait staff. Music and kitchen were so loud the girl behind the counter was yelling at customers to make sure they heard her. Owner came around and checked on diners, which was nice.

Best meat I've ever had in my mouth! Exceptional service, decor, and straightforward food; although pricey, definitely worth it. Suck it Five Guys Burger!!

I think Oxnard will enjoy this burger joint immensely. :) Place seemed casual yet classy, serving beer on tap and wine! Burgers were big, service was friendly. Of course, nothing compares to Umami burger, but for the price, Hook is not bad. The regular burger and hickory burger both were good. Hickory burger is a bit sweet due to bbq sauce. Great lunch spot for a roadtrip!

Really good burger for a great price. Hard to beat the value and quality here, definitely a favourite for me. Good meat to start and the toppings are tasty but don't hide the flavour of the party because they do not need to.

Great amazing food! Hickory burger with bleu cheese, the trio and a shake! Clean restaurant beautiful decor and cannot forget the friendly staff and incredible customer service (Jackie, Nancy, Alyssa, Ana). Fun and positive atmosphere with Reasonable prices. I will definitely be back, but next time with my kids and husband.

Best burger in town! There aren't many good restaurants in the city but this is an exception. Prime burger its delicious, chicken club is great and of course wash it all down with a hipsteriffic P.B.R.!

High quality meat, large portions, and fed a family of 4 under $30. Ok so we have a 3 & 5 year old, but getting the Bistro, Hickory, and petit burgers, kids chicken tenders, and sweet potato fries all under 30, that is a reasonably priced meal. We made a to-go order but we definitely would've appreciated eating in with the nice decor including flat screens at the bar. Highly recommend.

Sides are average. Burgers were soild, although the bun was a bit big and sweet. Ahi sandwich was solid. Did not try milkshakes, but they looked great. Atmosphere is average. Good spot for kids. 6-10 beers on tap.

Why don't we have one in LA??? Hickory burger with onion strings and avocado! Oh yeah The trio of fries & onion rings wasn't memorable... but the burger was outstanding

Today's visit was not pleasant The noise in the restaurant was so loud, that I could barely even hear. the person taking my order. Fortunately, I have been there before, so I was guessing, what she was asking about the type of cheese, etc. There was only one cashier and there were at least 15 people in line behind me to place an order. It took almost 15 minutes to even place my order. The guy in front of me took at least 10 minutes to process his order. why ....................I have no idea.. A bartender, rang up a bar customer's food order for on a second register for a total o $7.52, which took at least 5 minutes to process. Someone finally took my order on at the back wall computer, and I had to wait for my receipt to be delivered to me at my table. Finally, the bartender started taking orders on the second register. After ordering, I selected a table the was away from the front door................however it didn't help....As the line to the slow order cashier process line became longer, people had to hold the door, because they could not fit in the order line, so they just kept holding the door open. With the Oxnard cold winds, my burger served was cold in minutes, after it was served.. As far the food............The burgers have gotten smaller and not as good as when they opened. As I sat waiting for my food, I witnessed 12 perspective customer walked up to the front door...........saw the line to order food..............and they headed for other restaurants!. Hook......you need to fix this problems.

The food is incredibly good and I love that there are servers to deliever your food to your table, refill your beverages and bring you any condiments you may need. It's a nice experience and the decor is great. I highly recommend this place!!!!

I had a Bistro Burger. Burger was good, Fries and Lemonaid ok. Inside is small but has lots of windows so it makes if feel big. Also, even when its crowded the inside eating area isnt loud.

Nice atmosphere, great service, and incredible burgers. Can't wait to go back to try more. Since I'm short on time, I'll keep the good stuff at that. But I do have 2 complaints which don't warrant me taking it down from 5 stars (because the food is that good). One of the things we ordered was the ahi sandwich. It was fresh and delicious. But the menu says it comes with a wasabi tarter sauce. It was very good tarter sauce, but I could barely taste a hint of wasabli from the huge amount I dipped in (I had asked for the sauce on the side because, when we got the sandwich, I thought they messed up and didn't put any on). My girlfriend couldn't taste any wasabi at all. My other complaint has to do with wines. My gf wanted a glass of merlot but all they had for reds was cabernet and syrah. Considering that the bar area kind of presents itself as a wine bar (there is a wine rack around the entire ceiling filled with several dozen bottles), I would think they'd have a better selection. I'm sure, if they did, they'd bring in many more customers and a lot more $. Like I said, I'm short on time so I had to be brief. Even with those 2 complaints, I'd still give it 5 stars because of the food, the casual ambience, the pricing, and the service. We'll be back - my gf will make do with iced tea or lemonade and I'll bring some wasabi to add to the tarter sauce.

VERY good burgers. Usually not a fan of gourmet burgers (c'mon, a double cheeseburger with mac sauce will do) but Hook Burger is an exception. My boyfriend took me here on my last visit to Oxnard and when I found out that it's owned by the same people who run The Habit I was excited! PROS: Great ambiance, very clean, servers are friendly. Location is good, ample parking, nice decor. Food is great quality, great presentation, and everything was nice and flavorful. Meat was juicy! BIG BONUS POINTS: Ranch is a very important condiment (seriously) and Hook Burger's ranch was delicious! Whatever brand it is, it's good quality, and they didn't charge extra for it! ANOTHER PLUS: Hook Burger also serves wine and beer (which is always great for us 21+) but since I was hungover I couldn't have any that day. Definitely will try next time though. CONS: Slightly higher prices, burgers kept falling apart, menu was kinda small. Also, quite a few teenybopper kids sitting around talking pretty loudly while spending 2 hours eating a single order of fries. Smh. NOTES: I had the Bistro burger and my boyfriend had the BBQ burger and I'd have to say, the BBQ one was significantly better. The Bistro burger was good, and of course for me the avocados in it were a plus, but if you're looking for more flavor go with the BBQ. TO SUM IT UP: Definitely recommend trying this place if you haven't already. Hook Burger's been added to my list of favorites.

Underwhelming. After reading the reviews here I felt I had to try it, so my girlfriend and I went in today and ordered the burger with everything. The woman taking the order was super nice as was the gentleman who brought the food. I was mostly dissatisfied with the patty size. I was expecting something substantial but all I got was a frozen little burger patty. The patty was hidden amongst a pile of lettuce and was so small it didn't fit the bun which was much larger. Disappointed. I wanted to like it.

We came here for the basic, burger, fries and a Coke and it was tasty. Consider it the Habit-deluxe version. Got a half and half of sweet potato fries and onion rings like the Habit and they were fine with that, nice. One star off for getting a cheese burger instead of the regular burger that I had wanted. It was all good though...

After a taste of the disgusting Mexican place next door, I was left dissatisfied and still hungry. I walked out and decided to try out this hamburger joint next door. I mean, it's kinda hard to mess up a burger. I'm glad I came. This place was great! The service was simple and quick and the people who worked there were really nice. I ordered the bistro burger with a side of onion rings and it was delish all the way through. The burger was big and made with good quality beef. My onion rings were juciy and crispy, not greasy like at most places. Unfortunaly, I couldn't get a beer because I was on lunch from work, but seeing that they served alcohol made think that this would be a cool place to hang out at with friends for a jolly good ol' time. Along with the excellent food, the presentation of their burgers breaks the tradion of sloppily thrown in a basket. Instead, Hook Burger Bistro places the burger on a nice modern looking plate and your sides (fries, onion rings) are served in this cool spiral thingy. You also don't have to be afraid to use the bathroom here. It was very clean and didn't stink. Hook Burger Bistro puts The Habit to shame. Wish there was once closer to home. I will be a regular after today when in Oxnard.

Great place for a quick burger or chicken sandwich. USDA prime meat, very fresh ingredients, made to order. I had the Hickory Burger and it was pile on pretty thick. Reasonably priced too. $6.00 for a Prime Cheeseburger. The place is very clean, has a small bar so you can watch games on TV too. Will be back soon for more good quality food.

I had lunch here today for the first time in a few months. It was after 2pm so I thought it wouldn't be crowded and I could have an ideal meal. The restaurant had only 4 or 5 tables. I was greeted upon my arrival by a friendly young lady. I ordered a RARE hickory burger without bacon substituting blue cheese, onion rings and ice tea. My bill was over $13.00. I asked her why it was so expensive, turns out I was being charged for the cheese even though I said no bacon. I objected and she returned 75 cents. I received my food within about 5 minutes of my ordering. My burger was not RARE but medium. I don't understand why I can't get a burger rare? The restaurant wasn't crowded. I think they pre-make their burgers and leave them on the side and throw them on the grill to reheat them. Never mind, eat and get back to work by 3. I tried to flag down one of the runners to get a refill on my ice tea but to no avail. I had to get up twice myself and stand in line to get more tea. They were nice about it but there were only 4 tables it did not make sense. In addition, I decided I wanted something to dip my onion rings in. I despise ketchup so I requested blue cheese dressing. Again, I tried to flag someone down but to no avail. I got up and instead of waiting in line I went up to the counter where the cooks place the ready orders and as it turns out, they don't even have blue cheese dressing. What restaurant does not have blue cheese dressing especially when they serve a Cobb salad??? Expensive, poor service, overcharged, cannot get something cooked as requested, and minus a standard served everywhere. What's all the excitement about this place anyway?

Very good burgers and shoe string fries. Although a little pricey it was definitely more worth the price than 5 Guys though which was disgusting and super expensive. We will be back anytime we're in the mood for a decent burger and friendly service.

The burgers are very big, so big that they can dry out and you end up eating spoonful of sauce with each bit. I actually recommend the sliders, they are smaller and tastier.

I just LOVE this place so much I can't stop talking about it. Today we had BBQ chicken sandwich, bistro salad, bistro chicken club and the trio. Everything was great we can't complain about anything. The cashier (Jessica) seem to know the menu pretty well she explain everything back as I ordered. The manager is very attentive with all the customers.

I've now been to Hook Burger more than a dozen times, and wasn't going to write a review because it's so good that I wanted it to remain a secret. However, the word is out, because the lines are usually long now (although they always move quickly). Plus, we went to Umami Burger in LA yesterday and Hook Burger blows it away (at half the price) so I had to give Hook Burger some props. This place is probably the best local example of an upscale (but not too upscale) burger restaurant. The food is great and thoughtfully sourced, the staff is friendly and excellent, the restaurant is nicely done and not too loud, there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating AND the prices are right on the money. It's our favorite burger place, and we've been to many. many "upscale" burger restaurants, from independent one-offs to the bigger chains like 5 Guys. I understand that the guys who started Habit Burger also own Hook Burger, and wow did they get it right on this one. Definitely go to Hook Burger if you can.

Very good! Gourmet burgers, thick milk shakes, wine and beer available, French fries, onion rings, or sweet potato fries. Cool atmosphere, and they are pretty fast too. I like their operation too, you wait in line, place your order, they give you your drink, then you sit down and your food is brought to you. The cool part is that people walk around and make sure you are happy and that your drinks are filled. no need to get up and wait behind 6 kids who are using the sticky soda fountains to make their super sodas with a little bit of every type of soda in it.

The Hook, it was all over Facebook when it first came to Oxnard, CA. How could I resist trying it out when my mom offered to take me and treat? The meat was tasteless, and probably of low quality. The fries were shoestring and were not the best I've had. For the quality of food and even service, it is overpriced. I think it may be over-rated.

I've been here twice and I love it. The burgers are big so sharing is ideal, unless you want to feel overly full for hours! The meat quality is good it's definitely not a fast food burger taste. Totally worth the extra few bucks!! The Hickory burger is my favorite! Their thin fries are amazing!! They might be my favorite part! The seating is comfortable and roomy! The servers have been attentive both times. Great little place!

The BF and I have been on a quest to find the best burger in each town and I think we have found Oxnards. We are both fans of The Habit and so that made him a lot more inclined to give this place a try. We went during the week in the rain and we were lucky to get a table. Nice to order at the front and then sit down. Table service with less fanfare. I had the Maui (or Hawaiian) burger and it was good. Lots of flavor and the pineapple salsa was just right. The BF had the Prime burger and he devoured it all. We got sweet pot fries and they were crispy and a tad over-salted, but you expect salt on fries. We will definitely be back. Very clean, very friendly. OH! And they serve beer. A decent selection for such a small place. 2 burgers, 2 fries, 1 beer and 1 coke was just under $30.

Where to even begin? Before I dive into the details let me state outright, this place is awesome! The food: Wow, makes me hungry just remembering the meal. I ordered the bistro burger and sweet potato fries. The food was super yummy, and the presentation was quite impressive (on par with meals that range on the $15-20 side). Good variety of food even if you aren't in the mood for a burger. The decor: I love the interior of this place! You get the ambiance and service of a nice quality sit down restaurant with the price of a to-go place. What isn't there to like about it? They also have a nice little bar area with some TV's setup, seems like a perfect spot to grab some food and a few beers and watch a game! The service: Ok this is the part that really puts this place over the top, you actually get real service! Ordering my food was surprisingly fast for how busy the place was, and then to my surprise a very nice young lady came and brought the food to our table! On top of that she always seemed to show up just in time to refill drinks! Overall this place delivers great food and great service at ridiculously cheap costs. I will definitely come back and highly recommend it!

This place has some of the freshest, tastiest ingredients found anywhere. I had the Bistro burger which was cooked perfectly, and quite mouthwatering. My wife had the Prime burger which was equally as good. We both also shared the sweet potato fries, and onion rings. Best onion rings on the planet, you have to try them for yourself. The restaurant was very clean, and inviting. The staff was excellent, and super friendly. I will be coming here for my burgers from now on. In N Out who? This place now offers military discounts as well, so go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I think this is a perfect place. Easy parking. We walked in and I was impressed with how modern and clean it was. We got menus and ordered at the register - for the three of us, we got three Bistro burgers and three orders of sweet potato fries as well as a side Caesar salad. The fries came out right away and were really good, especially with the sides of ranch. The salad was huge for a side salad! Our burgers didn't come out long after. I got mine with a veggie patty and it tasted great with all the avocado and red peppers. I couldn't believe the prices too - $6 for a great burger. We got a lot of beers and they all came out right away. The service was very good and accommodating. I would come again anytime!

The prime burger was delicious! It was very juicy. It came with onions and although I'm not a fan of onions, it gave the burger a sweet taste to it. Even my daughters chicken tenders were moist. I would return here - friendly workers, great ambiance and most importantly, delicious burger!

Every summer, my GF and I, along with another couple are in the area. Yes, the women love the outlets. This year I decide to hit up a local burger joint. This being the summer of the burger, it seemed only right. I yelp up the area's places and find Hook. Intrigued with the pics and the comment that it is better then Umami. It's pretty close to the outlets and we were starving. Walking up to the building I was surprised to see a warm decor, compared to the outside. The sign was really weather beaten and faded. Not to busy for a Saturday so there were a lot of booths to choose from. We were greeted with menus and told when we were ready to order, walk up to register. Once again, I order the namesake Bistro Burger. She, the Hickory Burger. We also get a salad and sweet potato fries. I got a New Castle to wet the whistle. Our friends got the Prime Burger and the Bistro Club along with the Trio. The food came rather quick. I really like the metal baskets. Nice touch. The first thing I noticed was the Bistro Burger was nothing like the pic. Way smaller and pushed together. The Hickory looked and smelled good. The portion of fries was rather small for two people. My GF had to ask for some ranch for dipping. The salad was really good and fresh. As for the burgers, we all agreed that the patty is to small for the bun. In first bite, it all I really tasted. All that was left on our trays were bread. I had asked for Med/Rare and I got Med. For me, that is too dry. Needed the pink. My burger was rather bland and plain. My GF burger had a lot more flavor and had a nice dose of bacon. Her burger also did not look like any of the pics we saw. Really surprised at that. Of the food we got, My buddie's wife loved the club. We were all happy for her. Nothing here really jumped out and said "Come back" other then the service. It was awesome. The staff was polite and courteous. When a plate was empty, someone was there to grab if from our table. Excellent service, hopefully the burgers will match on day.

Took 18 min to get my food... It appears they were getting alot of orders wrong...but this is their first week after all. Fries were great, they tasted as if they were from Mcdonalds but healthier. Burger was also good, I had the Hickory Burger. It seems they cook there meat temp @ medium well. Good visit... I still would have to say it comes close to the Habit. People here are friendly..which also haas the potential of becoming a good hang out point if they had more TVs

Nice modern but cleaned up rustic place. Perfect when i'm in the mood for a pretty great burger, fries and BEER.. Probably not a first date but for sure a 3rd 4th and 9th date restaurant... If you want something lean and you like fish get the grilled ahi burger

The interior decor is very nice! The place looks nice enough to be a sit down but you stand there in line and order your food! Despite not having a full bar, they do serve beer and wine. I got the hickory burger, awesome burger and I loved that it didn't have too much BBQ sauce, a lot of places just smother that stuff on. I also recommend getting The Trio, comes with fries, onion rings and sweet potato fries, excellent to share. I went here on a Saturday night and the place wasn't crowded at all. This will definitely be a new place for my friends and I to go.

You really can't tell from the outside how great this place really is. First off it's really cozy and pretty inside, very different than the usual burger place, yet the prices are incredibly reasonable. I got a burger and a lemonade for something like six bucks. The staff were great too, coming by our table to ask how we liked our burgers. My girlfriend and I loved our burgers and we loved this place! We will continue coming back.

3 stars: A-OK Umami is popular because it has the taste to back up its claims. Have you ever had a truffle burger at Umami? It's a small, pricey burger, but it's got great flavor. It might even be considered a bargain as it is 1/5 the cost of a Rossini burger at Hubert Keller's Burger Bar in Vegas, with about 3/8 of the taste. Hook's signature burger is not bad, but is it as good as Umami's Umami burger? No chance. The quality of meat at Umami vs. Hook is not even close. Comparing the two places is like comparing Larry Bird to Christian Laettner. They might look similar, but to a basketball fan, that's where the similarities end. Hook's not bad, maybe even a potential all star, but it's not in my top 10 burgers of all time. The atmosphere inside is trying a little too hard and a little too loud. The pay at the counter first, seat your own party of two in a booth meant for six is a little thoughtless and unsustainable if this place ever really gets busy. Once the food arrives, the waitresses don't check in very often. Unless you know them, in which case it seems they're pretty chatty. They've got beer, so 3 stars instead of 2. Good concept. Needs refinement.

This is a real good burger joint, the service is very good and the staff alway greets you with a big smile. The food is very good, I visit hook burger 2 or 3 times out of the week, and I have never been disappointed, if u go there at lunch time be prepared to wait in a long line, but it is worth the wait. The BBQ chicken sandwich is great , they use sweet baby rays sauce. And the shoe string fries and onion rings hit the spot every time. Mmmmm mmm good !!

People's taste in burgers are individual, for sure. However, this place should be tried by any burger aficionado. Clean, modern, burgers to perfection, flat screen tv's, and excellent onion rings. Don't miss this place. It's the best burger I've had in the area.

Since I had a burger last time, I thought I'd try a salad. I've forgotten the name of the salad but it has mixed greens, mango, pecans, and Gruyere cheese. I liked this salad but wanted to have Ahi Tuna added to it. They were able to make this happen and it was a really tasty salad. My only complaint would be that I expected larger pieces of mango and pecans. Besides that, it was delicious.

This place is awesome. Burgers are really good and the restaurant is nice. Kinda halfway between fast food and sit down. There's other good things on the menu besides the burgers (salad, chicken sandwich, etc.) but the burgers really are the best. I forget what it is called but the BBQ burger with the fried onions....noms!

Great burger for the price! The bun is amazing and the 100% USDA GROUND CHUCK is delicious. The burger reminds me of the one I ordered at Fleming's Steakhouse.....only smaller. It was cooked to perfection. The fries were also good. The only complaint about them is they are very thin and get cold quickly. The service was exceptional! The girls working there are attentive and friendly. I will definitely be back.

This place has a dog friendly patio so we took our pooches here for lunch one day. Very clean, the staff is friendly, patio is shaded and comfortable. There was a decent amount of variety on the menu. I ordered a burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was put together nicely, not soggy, not hot, but edible. The ranch was runny, wish they had honey mustard like Red Robin. My favorite to dip Sweet potato fries in! Affordable, clean, friendly, and delicious. Very laid back, quick eating place, though I wouldn't spend your lunch break from work here. Pros: Dog friendly, delicious, speedy, friendly, clean. Cons: not very much variety, must go inside to order, (not easy when you have dogs with you), watery ranch. (yes, I'm picky about my ranch)

I've been meaning to check this place out for a long time, better late than never I suppose. I had the "Prime Burger" ($5.25) and added blue cheese (.75) and bacon ($1). I was debating getting french fries but they only have one size and the lady at the register said that its a pretty large amount. I decided to skip the fries and get a water to drink. The burger was great. Juicy patty, ripe tomatoes, cooked onions, honey dijon mayo dressing, and a nice bun. It was enough to stand alone as a meal, and was a good value for the price. My only gripe is that they use shredded lettuce instead of leaf lettuce. It's kind of a downer to pickup your burger and have half the lettuce fall out onto the plate. It's not a deal breaker, but I think swapping the lettuce would add another star.

Like many restaurants these days, you order at the cash register, find a seat, and then they bring the food to you with a smile :) The Bistro Burger was great. Avocado, red pepper, juicy patty, + more all rolled into one! It is a bit messy to eat ,however, because the shredded lettuce gets everywhere! But hey.. what good burger isn't messy? Another favorite of mine is the Bistro Club Sandwich! Mm.. yea.. I think this one takes the cake for me. It's a nice piece of chicken breast on grilled sourdough bread! Ooh and the fixings include avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a mustard/mayo sauce. I am so satisfied every time after eating this sandwich! The only complaint that I have is that they give you so little avocado. I literally had no avocado on one of the sandwich halves and one dinky slice on the other. This sandwich comes with avocado.. so why do they put so little? I shouldn't have to ask for more avocado, although, I will next time this happens. The onion rings and sweet potato fries are good too! You can really taste the sweet potato and the onion ring batter is delicious. Service is always friendly here. They come to your table every now and then to check up on you, ask for any refills, etc., which is a plus in my book!

As a burger lover I was excited to try this place and let me clarify that for the most part the burgers are good. Like others, we walked in, were explained how everything works, ordered and waited for our food. I ordered the Hickory burger, my wife the Pretzel bun burger and my daughter the kids burger. The first problem occurred while ordering, "Are all the burgers cooked medium?" I asked. "Well we just cook them just until their nice and juicy, but no pink" so you cook them 'well.' All I got was a blank stare. I honestly got the feeling she really didn't understand what I meant and It was a bit sad, but on I went. I received my hickory burger and it was indeed cooked well, but it tasted great and for the most part it was the usual restaurant burger with 'bistro' flare, meaning it was packed high so as to be unwieldy and served open, but it still tasted great as was my wife's pretzel burger. Another problem came with my daughters burger, it was an unfortunately very plain hamburger with the top completely smashed like a pancake. Right from the kitchen, it was smashed flat like someone had taken the burger and smashed it between 2 hands. Sure, it's just a kids burger, but it was careless and obviously not up to an actual 'bistro's' standards. Finally, they stated that refills were free and we were in need of one. I waited 5 minutes, I waited 10 and didn't see anyone so I went to the front and interrupted the foot traffic to ask for a refill. Within minutes I realized that the table next to us were asked about refills; then a large table across from us had another staff member come by, ask if everything was ok then request to send their 'hello' to their 'cousin. Obviously I won't tell my cousin that nobody asked about them but refills would have been nice (considering they have no soda fountain for customers), in fact anyone coming back to the table at all would have been nice since all the other tables had. All in all, the burgers ranged from poor to good and the service, well, there was none. They are largely trying to be the 'Chipotle' or burgers, humanely realized cattle, repurposed materials, etc. it's all explained on the menu and I'm all for it, unless you can't even master the basic of customer service when you already offer only the partial experience and still use the word 'bistro.'

LOVE Hook Burger. Everyone is so friendly every time I go and I really appreciate that! Great service! Everything is cooked to order and the restaurant itself has a classy casual vibe. I have never been disappointed and they offer lettuce wraps as well. Quality meat.

I've been to Hook burger twice and it is A-OK. You walk up to the counter to order and they bring it to you; a little more fancy than say, "The Habit" burger...but not as fancy as "Father's Office". Shoestring fries are delish but the burger is kinda generic. The light fixtures and wood booths are very cool but the place in general has an upscale cafeteria feel. The have one or two televisions, but in positions that you can't see them from any booth...kind of odd. The fact they serve beer is a huge plus. Nothing I am HOOKED to here, so not really worth the drive if your more than a few minutes away already.

BRAVO!! This place is awesome. It's a fusion of classy and chill. This place is like a little hipster burger oasis. You walk in, the staff is always sure to ask, "have you been here before?" because things are a little different. You walk in and feel like you should wait to be sat down. The space is freakin gorgeous. It's a nice mix of industrial elements- amazing wood/metal ceilings, exposed element lights in their lighting, amazing hardwood floors, and nice seating. So when you walk in, you definitely expect to be seated. But you aren't seated. You walk up to a menu board (or they have little personal ones they can give you) much like a fast food burger joint, and place your order there. They have a small but quality selection of high grade beef burgers to choose from, and some quality sandwiches. I have ordered the Hickory (?) burger both times and its crazy tasty. My wife orders the BBQ chicken sandwich and it's tasty cakes too. You order your burger and sides a la carte. I ordered a Caesar salad the first time and fries the second. The salad was actually preferable (it was quite large too) though the fries were quite tasty. My wife ordered the onion rings both times and there were too many for her to finish. I tried them and they were suuuper tasty. I ordered roasted chicken for my daughter and it was a reasonably priced little meal that consisted of a leg and thigh quarter and fries. The chicken was outstanding. I wish they offered another piece as an adult meal. It was tender and delicate, and was cooked with expertise and precision. It was one of the best pieces of chicken I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Too bad my 9 month old daughter won't remember it... My wife and I finished what she didn't eat and split the rest of the fries. Yumm. (they also give one of those little gummy burgers for dessert which I thought was hilarious). They have a small but solid collection of microbrewers available on tap as well, including local brewer 805. I'm a Hefeweizen guy and they carry Pyramid, which is one of the top Hefe's out there. Solid. They have some good soft drinks too- their lemonade was delicious and refreshing. Hook was one of the better finds I've had off Yelp. 5 star reviews don't come easily for me, and this one definitely deserves it.

We stopped in here while visiting Oxnard and this is the burger place for adults. There is a unique selection of burger, I had the bistro burger that came topped with grilled peppers. They also serve beer. The burgers are huge so we got the fries to share which turned out to be perfect for two. The only draw back was you order at the counter and then get seated and they bring you your food and you do have a waitress but it was a bit difficult to get any service after we got our food for refills and things like that.

Chic-looking place, almost looks to clean and classy to have a good burger anything that will fill you up. But don't let that fool you. The Skirt steak sandwich is wonderful, some really good meat with carmelized onions and the toasted roll is delish. It was very sizeable too even for me. Maybe pricey to have as u lunch sandwich at $10-ish but it is high quality steak and very big. Not a huge fan of shoestring fries they take too long and have no substance but still theirs were good. The homemade lemonade was very very good, not too sugary and some real pulp. Their burgers all look good are decent prices, will be trying those next time I'm in Oxnard.

living in Santa Barbara has it's perks, but sometimes I just need to venture out to Ventura for my montly Target runs and to see malls and real life happening! I was craving a burger and since Eureka Burger came into town in SB, I have higher expectations for juicy burgers. I enjoy that they are USDA grass fed, really delicious beef! This place dominates Eureka burger in regards to flavor and selection and PRICE! They are half if not more CHEAPER than Eureka! The burgers are delicious, plump and filling. They have a beer selection and bar area inside of the restaurant and their ranch is amazing! I enjoyed their sweet potato fries and thought their buns were heavenly! WILL BE BACK!

Dang it! Been waiting all week to try their burgers and after going, it was a let down. The Bistro and Hickory burgers ordered looked amazing, but just tasted okay. It's just didn't hit the spot and we can't figure out why. Hook Burger has the right idea, fancy buns, USDA Prime meat, popular ingredient combinations and great craftsmanship, but it just didn't come together. Oh well, glad we went and tried. we can scratch it off our list now. It's a cool lookin' place with very good service. Probably won't be back.

Hickory Burger. It's got bacon on it. And onion crispies. And barbecue sauce. Did I mention the bacon? Not gonna lie, every time I end up here I honestly intend on ordering something different... but no. I tried it once. I got the Maui Burger. It wasn't bad or anything, it was just missing something. (Maybe bacon?) Pro tip: get the sweet potato fries, they're awesome. The regular fries are tiny in a sort of adorable but hard to eat way. The onion rings aren't that great. The atmosphere is pretty cool. They're trying to be hip and a little more upscale than the standard burger joint. They've also got wine and beer on tap, because who doesn't want a nice tall Shock Top to wash down all that bacon? I'll be back.

We had lunch at Hook and ordered the chopped salad. It was served without the goat cheese that was on the menu. Also, it wasn't chopped. It was tasty and they did bring us the goat cheese when we pointed it out. The restaurant is extremely noisy. I don't understand why they play very load music that you can't appreciate or really hear. It just adds another layer to the noise level.

Ordered the prime burger. The meat was perfect. Fries were crispy. Could use a few more beer choices, but their selection was decent. Would come again.
