My husband and I just moved up here and I needed my sushi fix! So, I yelped a few places and decided to try this one. It is by far one of the most amazing sushi places I've ever been to. We ordered a California tempura roll and the Roc 'N Roll (which tastes amazing). If you have a spouse that does not like sushi, my husband ordered the sesame chicken and absolutely loved it!

My brother recommended this place to me when I asked him where is a good spot in Oxnard to take a friend out for her bday dinner. He told me to make reservations because they get busy. So i called when they opened and the hostess told me they don't take reservations around the time i wanted but they can put me on the wait list [not really sure what the difference is]. I asked for a table for 4 people at 7PM. My friend and her husband got there before my BF and I and they got seated right away. Our table was AWESOME. we were right at the window looking over the water as the sun was setting. It was pretty and romantic! My BF and I ordered the Short-Rib a la carte and the Golden Tiger Roll. My brother recommended the Tiger Roll so I trusted him, I tried it and it was pretty good. The negative was that each piece were huge that I could not put the whole piece in my mouth! I don't like eating sushi if i have to bite into it twice - it just gets really messy. Overall the food was good, the service was less than satisfactory for me since they took forever to take our order. i'm not sure if i would go back, maybe, possibly but less than likely [haha!!] I was just disappointed, I guess I expected a lot from the place since my brother recommended the place. I also got sick an hour later when we went to meet up with my other friend and her hubby at Friday's for Happy Hour. It totally ruined my night =/

The best sushi around! Have been going there at least once a month for a couple of years and am never disappointed. Fresh sushi, great service and the atmosphere is very nice. Right on the water ... Miso soup is flavorful and not watered down. Feta tuna sashimi .. Delicious !!

Food is okay. It was too busy to get a table. There is some really weird employee tension here. I think Nina might be a lead or something, but don't expect her to smile or to pretend she enjoys her job. Maybe she is just overworked. Somebody needs to explain customer service to her and a few of the other employees.

The best, I'd say the best and affordable Japanese restaurant here in Oxnard. Love their Vegetable Yakisoba and their Veggie Roll, yum!

We came here during a weekend for dinner without reservations and were happy to be seated within a few minutes. Towards the rear end of the restaurant is the Oxnard harbor, so try to get a seat there :-) We ordered Chicken Teriyaki, Salmon Teriyaki, Heart Attack roll, and a few other sushi rolls that I don't remember. Both the chicken and salmon teriyaki were bland, they are for people who like to eat food without adding any salt. The sushi rolls were so-so, nothing really stood out for any of us. Service was blah blah. Mochi dessert was a dud. Not returning!

I've come, not that often, but every time I do I am always pleased with the food and the service. The oysters were fresh, the sushi is always fresh and tasty, and the sushi chefs and other employees have always been kind and made sure we were great.

The food was wonderful. I took my son there for a Sunday dinner due to all the great reviews. When we arrived there was a waiter at the check in area putting a receipt together. Not once did he greet us and say he would be with us in a minute. He just ignored us. When he finally said something it was just, How many looked around the room and asked my name. Wrote it down and walked away. He came back and said this way. He acted like it was an inconvenience we were there. Our waitress was impersonal and seemed like she rather be somewhere else. She took our order and then served us when it was ready but never came by to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything. I had to flag her don't to ask a question and order something to go. I have owned a restaurant and I would have been upset and embarrassed if my staff acted like that to a customer. I will come back but will only sit at the counter where the sushi chefs are. They were the only one the we're being friendly and having fun with the customers. I would recommend the Anaba boat due to its wide variety and the wonderful food.

Hands down! Best Steak and Chicken I ever had in my entire life! It is so juicy and delicious. Even there vegetables. Love this place. I highly recommend this place. It's in a great location. Great customer service.

What lucky people to have Anaba in their neighborhood. I was visiting friends and relatives and we were able to walk there for lunch. Service was excellent and the food very good. I had the vegetable udon lunch special. Perfectly flavored and filled with fresh vegetables. I look forward to future visits, even if it means putting up with my sister.

Best sushi restaurant that I can remember being in here in the US. We sat at the bar and were treated great by the guys behind the counter. Order the Kikusui Sake as it was smooth and tasty. Jun behind the counter gave us great sushi but the scallops order was the top of the mountain. It was incredible. Almost licked the plate. Scallops people. Best sushi in California and Arizona. Been to many places in boh states. The servers weren't too knowledgeable in the sake arena so that could be an area for improvement. Lucky for us the sushi chefs knew what they were doing w their recommendations. 4.95 stars or just make it a 5!

  • Shelby S.

Everything about this place is amazing! We eat here at least once a week. Although, I won't go into detail because it's already hard enough to get a table at peak hours :)

This was the best sushi I have had in a while. Top 3 of all time! I just moved here and my family came to visit. We shared dinner here and were all so impressed not only by their service but also their amazing food! We also purchased a cold sake, incredible. This is the best food we have had yet in the area (been here 2 months). This is our go to sushi from now on!!

Food was great. Not the best sushi I've ever had but definitely a close second.

I LOVE Anaba! I have been there more than a dozen times. It is defiantly all about the rolls here, which are AMAZING. I try to have a different roll each time I come in and I have yet to have one that I didn't like! ( I think the Channel Island Roll is my favorite though!) I'm honestly not sure if I can say this is the best sushi place in Ventura, just recently I went to Hanada Sushi which is very close to Anaba and both are just SO amazing I think its a tie. I would recommend both! Anaba - ROLLS, amazing, interesting, delicious rolls. Hanada - Nigiri, super fresh, buttery soft fish.

I've visited Anaba at least five times and all five times have been phenomenal. Their service is awesome! They're courteous and hospitable; always feel welcomed. The chefs are extraordinarily charming and are willing to talk to you about Japanese food and sushi. I always base my review of a sushi restaurant on how well they prepare their Dynamite Roll. Many places mess up my favorite dish, but Anaba gets it right all the time. They get the right amount of each ingredient right and it's prepared and cooked to perfection: the sauce is warm; the rolls are still in tact but not too solid; the scallops are cooked well; and onions are grilled enough to give it flavor but doesn't overpower the other ingredients. Anaba is my top sushi place for Ventura County. It's right next to the harbor so it's a nice place to have a date. My girlfriend really loves it hear, as well.

I am not crazy about sushi but was willing to explore their menu. I was amazed by the selection of rolls and other non sushi items. Before you order you have to try the spicy edamame as an appetizer if you like the spicy tangy stuff this appetizers is the best so far from all the other places I have been to. I asked about any recommendations for first timer and the dude told me to try golden tempura California roll. It was very delicious. I also tried the chicken ala carte served on a sizzling cast iron plate with grilled onions. For desert i recommend the green tea tempura ice cream its has a unique taste to it topped off withthe tempura batter some whipped cream and an orange slice. 10 points for presentation. Anything tempura is now mu favorite. They also dim the lights and play music while they sing happy birthday. There was like three people celebrating their birthday while we were there. I guess it's a great place to celebrate your midweek early bday. Any how great place and friendly staff.

This is THE BEST SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Anaba is amazing, the food, the service, the location, everything. The popcorn lobster roll is TO DIE FOR. I have never had a roll so good. And they throw a little mini "rave" when there is a birthday there. It's super fun. There are so many choices on the menu.

  • Vanessa D.

Brian is excellent! If you go on the weekend it is busy, but worth the wait! Food is great, people are nice, and the birthday song situations is so fun!!!

  • Tanya S.

We try to get here at least once a week.. Sulynn is fantastic and takes great care of the customers! All the guys behind the sushi bar are talented sushi chefs, very attentive, and friendly and the sushi is the freshest you can get! Great place to celebrate a birthday, plenty of tables and a good sized bar with views of the harbor when sitting by the windows. Prices are very fair too! I highly recommend Anaba to all!

  • Jillian J.

Anaba is flipping delicious, & completely Americanized sushi. It's so seriously good. Fully recommend: Monkey balls appetizer. Little fried mushrooms, + besides here, the only other place I know that serves them is Ozeki sushi in Ventura. Salmon sashimi with feta. Lobster tail hand roll (I could probably eat 10 of these; they were so good. + 911 roll (habaneros + pineapple so it's really not too spicy), + really any of the baked rolls (dynamite rolls are my favorite everywhere, but they're especially good here). Other than their food being really good, they've got a big old selection of sake, which only makes the food more delicious, it overlooks the harbor which is romantic if you get a window seat, + service is fast + really friendly. Birthdays are a blast here, as it's one of those places that dims the lights, pipes in Japanese electro-pop, does a little laser show + everybody in the restaurant claps + lets off poppers. Basically it's a lot of deliciousness + fun + if you live in Oxnard it should really be your favorite.

The sushi here is bomb! The fish is really fresh! The salmon just melts in your mouth. Service here is pretty good too. A specialty roll cost about $10-15 I'll be coming back and I recommend you try it out!

We have been trying to find a sushi place out this way...we tried Anaba tonight. It was the best sushi we have ever had!!!! Ambiance was really cool! Off and on they start flashing lights and turn up the music! Everyone in the restaurant was clapping and singing, it was such a fun night. Service- was nice, friendly and quick We had.. Albacore and Ahi Sashimi (melted in our mouths) 911 Roll (very spicy, in a good way) Tiger Roll (amazing) Oyster shooters (the best we have ever had) Spicy Poke salad (so yummy) Definitely our new place for sushi!!!!!!!!

Best Sushi Ever!!! I've had different kinds of sushi's in a couple of places including in different countries as well. This was just the place I would go back to whenever I can!

I love Anaba! I'm not that into sushi so I'm happy that they have a full menu of delicious appetizers and entries. Everything is always brought to the table fresh and hot, service is great: fast and friendly. The location is beautiful being that it is right next to the harbor so it makes for a fun date night!

The best I've had, prices are reasonable, great for date night, or family dinner. services is great and the restaurant is clean big plus

Good food slow service. The tuna collar was huge and cooked so well. Fresh and tasty rolls. I'd bet that everything here is tasty. It's a sushi place that likes you to stay a while, get plastered on sake, and keep eating. Unfortunately we were in a hurry so maybe next time.

  • Rod C.

Pretty good sushi. I haven't been in this area since the bakery/furniture store next door shut it's doors to slow business. The main chef actually studied Omakase (chef's choice) while in chef school. These sushi chef's recognize good fish, as they were even explaining to us the quality and where they source their Uni (sea urchin) locally and their Pacific oysters from Washington state. The servings sizes are perfect and often too much, unless you are a glutten. The bar seating seemed more convenient as you can also chit chat with the chefs. I tried the teriyaki salmon ($11.50), spicy tuna cut roll (($4.50) and the chef comp'd us with a heart attack roll (free).

  • Vicki T.

I had a very interesting, and good seaweed and mixed green salad here. The tempura filled sushi roll I ordered was also very good. My husband had the tonkatsu, but it was quite thin and dry. Anaba serves "California" style sushi, and their menu lists many elaborate sushi rolls filled with items like avocado and tempura. In spite of the tonkatsu, we liked this place.

Anaba Sushi is one of the newest sushi restaurants in Oxnard. It is in a great location in the new Seabridge shopping center, near Vons on Victoria Ave. It is beautifully decorated and is staffed by a friendly family group. The owner is one of the sushi chefs and is very personable. The sushi is fresh and beautifully presented, illustrating how artful this type of food is. The prices are very reasonable, making it a great choice for lunch. An all around good restaurant with a nice staff, good prices, and a nice atmosphere.

Just had the best dinner here tonight. First time as we are visitors to the area and I went on Yelps to decide which susui place to go to. You did not let us down. We highly recommend this place and we found it a lot cheaper than some of the places we have gone to in our travels. But the bottom line is the three of us were more than full and very pleased when we walked out. Oh and the picture menu was great! Really describes every dish so you know what you are getting.

If you are looking for real Japanese food and real sushi, then this is NOT the place for you. I went with GF and her cousin for dinner here after two other places were closed. We were starving so we were ready to get down. First thing I noticed wrong was when I asked for "Ocha" or green tea, they brought me a tea cup with a green tea bag in it...ehhhh wrong. That's when I knew I was screwed. Ordered some nigiri maguro, shiro maguro, sake (salmon) and hamachi belly. I will say the nigiri was not bad and the fish was fresh tasting. However, I'm not normally the person to order rolls of sushi but because they had such a large assortment of them I figured why not. Almost all of the rolls are some type of fish on top of "california rolls" . The California rolls are gross pure imitation crab. Baked mussels were not good and lobster roll was fried (what looked to be imitation) lobster balls. We had to order green tea ice cream just to get the taste out of our mouths. Lesson learned, when you're really hungry sometimes you make bad decisions.

after eating here once, i don't really know how i feel about it. i wouldn't say it's bad or really good. i would come back again.. maybe after the second visit and ordering something different (what i ordered was pretty basic) i can make a more sound judgement. but from my first and only visit i can say, the service is quick, the fish looks super fresh the day i went, the roll i ordered tasted good, but i just think that this place is missing something and i don't know what it is...

Sat at the sushi Bar twice now......I am picky about sushi and this is very good sushi so far! If you like Sashimi, try the Ono Sashimi with crunchy onions.....YUM!!!!!!! The fish is really fresh!! And they serve fresh Ginger (not the pink stuff!). The sushi chefs are real friendly and accomodating...that's why I always love sitting at the bar at sushi restaurants!! If you are a sushi fan......you won't go wrong at this place! & it's a nice atmosphere, you can take a walk around the harbor to walk it off afterwards.

I go to Japan several times a year for business and I have to say anaba is as good as it gets! Warm plumb wine and the sushi "b" is my best sampler but if a sushi place can make there food look like there pictures Im a huge fan any ways!! Delicious

Great location, overlooking Seabridge Marina. Unfortunately I don't think the staff knows anything about sushi.

Checked this place out with some friends who had been there before. The four of us were seated right away and offered drinks. I had one of the unfiltered sakes, it was great. We ordered a bunch of stuff, I can't remember it all - princess roll, rock and roll (tempura), hotate, maguro, etc. The toro was the highlight and it was exquisite. The chef did a cool presentation of sweet shrimp on top of an upside down wine glass and the fried heads on a skewer. Alas, they were out of uni :( Great food, good service. Recommended.

Have been going to this place since its grand opening. The service is fine and friendly. The fish is excellent. Can't speak much for the rolls, but the nigiri is terrific. Quality, fresh, flavorful fish.

I'm from LA and I love sushi, so when my friend told me that we'd be eating at a sushi restaurant in Oxnard, I didn't really have high expecatations. Boy... was I wrong. Anaba was one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to. First of all, when you walk in, the decor is really nice, the place is pretty spacious, and it's clean. If you don't mind sitting at the table instead of the sushi bar, make sure that you call ahead and reserve one of the tables in the back. You end up with a great view of the marina - again totally unexpected. We had this great monkfish (i think) appetizer that literally melted on your tongue. It was rich and buttery, almost like a fois gras. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. I've been to places were the salmon can be a little fishy smelling, but Anaba's fish didn't reek at all. The raw sweet shrimp was presented in a way that just made your mouth water and the taste didn't disappoint. We also had several rolls, including a mango salmon roll. If you like sweet and salty, you have to try this one. The rock n roll was good too. We had two other, but I can't remember what they were called. Overall, I was blown again by the fresh ingredient and the care that the chef put into the presentation and taste. Last but definitely not least, our waiter was awesome!! There was never a point when our water glasses weren't filled or we had to ask for anything. He came and made sure that we were completely satisfied. Because it was my birthday yesterday, our waiter had the restaurant turn off all the lights, turn on the disco ball, and turn on this crazy happy birthday song that lasted 5 minutes. He even danced for us keeping the beat with his chopsticks. It was totally embarrassing, but incredibly sweet and fun. I would recommend anyone going there for your birthday. You'll have a blast... if you don't mind being a little embarrassed. Overall, I was with great friends, wonderful food, and exceptional service. What more can you ask for.

I'm not a sushi expert but I know low quality when I taste it. I've eaten at Anaba several times in order to try different rolls, all with the same conclusion...I will never go back, even if it is in a lovely waterfront location.

Korean Sushi place. I could not even order nigiri sushi there. I really wished I knew Anaba is not an authentic Japanese restaurant. Then I would have never gone there! I have nothing against Korean people at all. Anaba may look like Japanese with Japanese decoration, but it is just not authentic. Tempura is not right. Their batter is not right. I don't care if it taste decent or not, it should not be called Tempura. I asked for a cup of green tea and I got green tea in a coffee mug. That is not how Japanese serve tea. They even charged for it. Also, they use a lot of imitation crab meat in rolls. (My husband ordered one roll.) When you see imitation crab meat in rolls, they are not Japanese. Imitation crab meat is so cheap; why is it so expensive!? I ordered udon noodle because that is something it is hard to screw up and what I got was very much like Soft Tofe Korean soup, with vegetables like mushrooms, bean spouts and zuchinis with little noodles; it is not at all Japanese! I don't know what everyone is looking for when going to a sushi restaurant, as for me, I like Japanese Sushi place. If I am going to Korean BBQ, I will be disappointed if chefs and the waiters and waitresses are ALL talking loud in Chinese or Japanese or anything else that is not Korean because I know that it won't be authentic Korean BBQ. Anaba is just like that. I think they are just doing Sushi because they make money no matter what. It is just too bad.

  • Xuan R.

Korean-owned sushi bar specializing in all those giant, saucy rolls Americans seem to like. Sushi rice and udon broth are too sweet for my taste. The crazy, disco ball, nightclub birthday songs they sing to customers reminds me of K-town and totally caught me off guard. Not thing, but the Korean restaurant a few doors down is pretty good.

  • Samantha B.

My parents live right next to here so we've been coming here for years. Love everything here. Udon, sushi, dinner combos... I've eaten a lot of Japanese food and this place is still one of my favorites. It is a little pricy but in this case you get what you pay for! Really friendly service too!

+ Great quality fish: ordered the salmon, yellowtail, Spanish mackerel, and fw-eel. + Thick slices on the nigiri-zushi and just the right amount of rice means you get what you pay for! + Their "Traditional Japanese Roll" is a gem: assorted Japanese pickle

Had their Tuna Garlic roll based on strong suggestion by another reviewer...it was AWESOME!! Spicy Tuna Hand Roll is my general test for new places I visit and here it was perfect!

My partner loves sushi so we have tried most of the sushi restaurants in Oxnard. She gives the biggest "thumbs-up" to Anaba. In particular, she enjoys the simpler rolls such as spicy tuna. They always seem fresh and flavorful. Myself, I'm not bog on sushi so I often order the vegetarian appetizers such as the gyoza or the tofu. Fairly tasty, though the portions are a little on the small size. My big problem with Anaba is the take-out service. I usually wait 10 to 15 minutes longer than the projected wait. Worse yet, it is very awkward to wait inside the restaurant for the to-go order. A somewhat rude employee always directs me toward a cash register in the middle of the restaurant. I wait, being made to feel like a big lug who is getting in the way of the staff members. A few times, our order has been incorrect and they are not quite apologetic when correcting the error. They could definitely stand to be friendlier. Despite staff issues and the long wait associated with take-out, we will continue to return due to the quality of the sushi.

Food was OK but over-priced. Been to other sushi restaurants in the area where food is just as good or better but much less expensive. And the service was not great either.

Came here on a lunch date around 1:45pm..Apparently they close at 2pm to get ready for dinner so I had to order and pay quick. Kind of made me and my date awkward but I handled it with finesse..charge it. Appetizers: -Spicy edamame w/ garlic salt ($2.95). -The "Heart Attack" ($7.95) tempura jalapeños stuffed with spicy tuna and cream cheese garnished with greens and vinaigrette was muy delicioso! All this spiced up our conversation next to the window with a view of the harbor which my date really liked. It showed her the beautiful side of Oxnard. Highly recommend doing this pimp... She wanted to aim for something different and this is what she ordered. Forgot the name but It was a "mango" sashimi salmon slices on top, rice, with imitation crab inside. It was different but delicious. I opted to get the "Dragon Roll" with unagi, avacado, and tempura shrimp inside! That was good and the presentation was beautiful. My date and I agreed to getting the Channel Islands Roll which was our favorite! That thing was bomb.edu ! Educate yourself and try it! Prices are reasonable for the quality and the restaurant looks nice and clean...While I was waiting for my date out the front a couple of businessmen walked out stuffed with levity, one saying "Best Sushi in Oxnard." I would have to agree.

First time experience and the sushi selection was Very good and very different with a few "common" selections. We live in Santa Barbara and drove the 40-45 minute drive and was completely worth the nice drive on the 101 and dinner. Will definitely be back.

  • Rachel W.

Overall, I had a very nice experience here. The service is good despite how busy it can get, and the food is delicious. Very tasty fresh fish sushi, and the lightly fried rolls are also great. I will definitely be returning soon. If you're looking for something good and spicy, try the 911 Roll (or something like that). It's got spicy tuna, seared white tuna, and a tropical habanero sauce all over it. Not for the faint of heart!

Came here on my way thru town. Got a great table by the window overlooking the water. Was amazed by how busy it was on a Tuesday night. We got there at 5pm and people were waiting to get in. The service was great - very attentive and friendly. The decor was nice The food was average. I'm from LA and fresh fish there tastes well, fresher than the fish I had here. It wasn't bad. In fact, it was better than most chain Japanese restaurants but for 4+ stars on Yelp, I expected better. I ordered the eel, albacore, salmon belly and blue crab sushi and got an extra flying fish roe + quail egg by mistake. The server admitted this was an error and tried to give it to me for free but since she couldn't deduct the charge, she gave me a discount which was a little less than the price of the item. Where I come from, this is what we call 'shady', but then, I'm from the big city so I just accepted it and took the extra out of her tip. I mean, it was her fault. why am I paying for something that I didn't order, even if I was told to eat it. While we were there, 2 parties celebrated birthdays. The light show, singing and popper along with the ice cream sundae were totally unexpected. Can see why this place is so popular with the locals. If I'm in town again, doubt I'd go back.

Looking for sushi here in Ventura County can be a challenge at times. And when it comes to Sushi - you really don't want to take your chances on a product that you have anything less than optimum trust in. (i.e.: Gas Station Sushi = bad idea jeans) After doing a little Yelp-search, we stumbled across Anaba and it's glowing slate of reviews. Figured we'd give it a try. So glad we did! What an awesome find down in western Oxnard. Totally worth the extra little trek off of the 101. HUGE menu of selection, prompt and quick service, friendly staff, and this place is most certainly FAMILY friendly. The place can get a little bit on the loud side, so don't go here if you're expecting a romantic sushi dinner. But c'mon...really.... who goes out for ROMANTIC sushi??? Sushi is supposed to be a fantastic, sake bombin, KOMPAI good time right??!! And Anaba is definitely that sort of place. Without spoiling the surprise for you - let me just say this - go on someone's birthday. And make sure that you let the staff there at Anaba KNOW that it's someone's birthday. I won't give away the surprise... but I will say... its worth it! ;-) Bit thumbs up to Anaba. Family friendly Sushi. Awesome menu that has someone for just about anyone (even those of you who don't like your fish on the raw side) and just an all around good time. We'll definitely be back!

The high reviews just boggle the mind. If you like feeling as though you are in a sports bar with noise, commotion such as music playing that drowns out the TVs that are on and a loud atmosphere with mediocre at best food then this place is for you. When it comes to mediocre raw fish...well that is downright scary to me. BUT if you like deliciously prepared quality, fresh Japanese food with an atmosphere conducive to a pleasant dining experience than do not consider this restaurant.

I give Anaba 4 stars bc my husband LOVED it, but I thought it was so-so...lets start with the rolls, I had crunchy tiger hidden dragon, I had heard good things about it on yelp so I thought "why not? Try something new" I regret my decision. It was not what I thought it would be at all! Then I had the shrimp tempura roll. Sooo good. But then again, that's what I get at any sushi resturant. Way better than my first roll but I've had better. Now for my husbands dinner...lets just start off by saying he is a huge sushi fan. And he loved his dinner. He had octopus, tuna, and halibut sashimi, he loved them. He also had the tempura spicy tuna or something like that and he thought it was pretty good. The best part of the whole dinner, something that we both agree on, was the mochi ice cream for dessert...mmmmmm it was amazing. We got strawberry just to try something besides green tea. Oh my god it was so good. By far the best part of the meal lol. Customer service was great. Our waiter was Henry, he was awesome. Very prompt and kind and seated us right away without a reservation. Always came by the table to see if we needed anything. The manager(?) Min, also came by to help us with getting more food and stuff. One thing I thought was kinda inappropriate was the entire staff was drinking alcohol. I'm all for having fun, but there is a time and place for it, and on the job is not the place for drinking. The atmosphere is really nice and comfy and a good dinner place for sure.

One of the best sushi places in Ventura county. The waiter was very attentive to making sure our needs were fulfilled. I would definitely recommend this sushi restaurant to all my friends and family members

This place is the shit. Don't get it twisted. I love all their appetizers, entrees, sushi and desserts. Appetizer wise - I usually get the gyoza, spicy edamame, and seaweed salad. Sooo good! Depending on how I feel, I would get something freshly made vs baked. Sometimes the texture of the sushi throws me off - but that's just me being weird. For dessert of course, I can't leave without having green tea tempura ice cream. I die every time. I just want to smother my face in it.

Best sushi I have ever had! The teriyaki chicken dinner was delicious as well. I love the dressing they use on the salad. It is a great place to celebrate your birthday. They make it fun with the light show. I also enjoyed watching the sushi bar guys taking shots with the customers!

I just love this place! It's close to home & every time I go it's better & better. Get the Toastada Anaba it's the bomb.

A great sushi place. We had multiple rolls and the monkey balls. Everything was delish! Our sever, Hanah, was also great. Only downside is the price. A little over priced for some of the rolls.

Average sushi, rock n roll was really good. Service was great. Although it can get very stuffy and hot when busy so beware.

  • Jasmine R.

Veyr good food and the service was great! Our waiter was constantly checking on us and was on top of refills and table clean up. We ordered the Mega Philadelphia Roll, Shrimp tempura udon, California Roll, all of which was good and would recommend any one of them, but especially the Mega Philadelphia roll. Definitely come here and try it! Oh, and there was a birthday, and they turned down the lights, played some music with lights and they sang to the birthday person. :)

I've been here about 20 times, almost always during lunch, and it has been consistently good. This is my go to place for sushi in the Ventura area for the following reasons: Good view of the harbor if you are seated near the windows. Great selection of tasty rolls. I totally dig their Jasmine flower tea. It's tasty and the presentation is awesome. Ramune! Service is quick and friendly. I had one instance where it took almost fifteen minutes to be served after sitting down, like they forgot about us, but that was a fluke given how good the service has been every other time.

This place was highly recommended by friends so we were very excited to try the food. The sushi is always consistently awesome. Best albacore around. The Golf Pro roll us a must. Always look forward to visiting Oxnard for dinner.

Excellent! We were craving sushi on the way back from SB, and yelped this place. There was a wait for a table but luck was on our side! Waited no more than 15-20 minutes, and was seated next to the window, overlooking the harbor! It was both romantic and beautiful! Service was impeccable and food was fresh and fantastic! Food: Appetizer - ordered the Heart Attack roll which was jalapeño stuffed with crab. It was an excellent start. Rolls that I can recall : Spicy Tuna Hand roll - This was one of the best spicy hand rolls I've ever had! It was spiced perfectly, and the avacado was a great compliment to this roll. Wish I had 5 more of this. :) The other rolls were great as well, I just can't recall the name of it. Sashimi A - fantastic and fresh that consisted of Salmon, Tuna, Halibut, and Yellow-tail. Excellent. Green tea iced tea - This was refeshing. I wish this place was in my neighborhood, but glad we came!

My boss and I are always looking for places around Oxnard to grab lunch that doesn't leave us disappointed. Anaba is on the regular rotation now. We dropped in this afternoon and had the blue fin and hamachi sashimi. They were perfectly melty and every bit as delicious as I wanted them to be. They gave us fresh wasabi today too - which they may live to regret because I will probably ask for it every time I am there now! We also had the albacore delight roll which was great, but we had already been spoiled by the sashimi, so I'm not sure anything else would have lived up to it!

Best sushi in all of southern California, by far. And an outstanding staff and kind and welcoming management on-site all the time. A family-owned, family run business and you can tell. The rood is A+.

  • Veronica R.

This is hands down the best sushi spot in Ventura County. You have to try the Feta Tuna Sashimi. Sounds bizarre but soooo good. Also the popcorn lobster roll is great. And the Crunchy Garlic roll...ok i'll stop. I'm craving it now! All the sushi chef's are friendly. I recommend this place to sushi beginners and sushi pros!

This place is bomb ! I come every time I want sushi. It's the best in the 805 and is always fresh. The waiters are real good to and always asking if you need anything. Real good sushi and service I recommend this gem.

I wrote a negative review today somewhere else so for balance I'm writing about a positive experience. I live two and a half hours north and when we came here to visit I was really impressed. it's nice that its by Sea Bridge, check out the marina if you get a chance. Really good sushi, service was normal for this type of place. No complaints here, loved the bacon wrapped tempura asparagus appetizer the most. We came back again the last time we were in town, will be back again.

After a morning of reading Yelp reviews, I had an almost insatiable craving for sushi for today's lunch. I'd like to thank all you reviewers that helped set me back over $40. - Ahi tuna - Albacore belly yelp.com/biz_photos/5bn0… - Yellowtail belly (2 orders) - A spicy, delicious roll including tuna & tempura shrimp (name forgotten) Bonus: a new chef has joined the staff at Anaba. Many of the locals may know Tony (formerly of Ozeki Sushi) who has a solid reputation for providing good quality food. Please tell him Jack F. sent you.

This is by far my favorite place to get sushi. The staff is always friendly and attentive. I have never had a bad experience here. The dynamite shrimp and the garlic edamame are amazing. I can't even name a favorite roll because there are so many. But the lobster roll and salmon delight are among the top few!!

    (5)

Eh. Toro sushi was awesome! Dynamite and flaming fire something roll was average. Chef was too quiet and had no personality. Meal was $41.

While not a sushi connoisseur I do enjoy some on occasion and this was the time. While visiting my Bro and Sis-n-law in Oxnard who suggested this place and it is great. We chose various plates as to get more variety and weren't disappointed! Washed it all down with a icy cold Sapporo draft.

My friends I went to lunch here yesterday after I saw good reviews about it on yelp. Located in a shopping center, there's lots of other stores/restaurants you can go to after if you want. When we walked in, we were greeted immediately and seated. The restaurant wasn't packed, but it wasn't super empty either. We got our water immediately as well, and the wait staff was always really friendly and attentive. There were a lot of options, including sushi combo plates. My friends and I just got rolls, however. I got the mango salmon roll, which was pretty good. We shared a rainbow roll, which wasn't the best I've bad, but not bad at all. 4 rolls between the 3 of us was more than enough, and it wasn't that expensive either, considering it's sushi. Overall, a pretty good experience.

Anaba gets a lot of things right, impeccably fresh fish, a wonderful wait staff and a diverse and interesting menu. This is potentially a five star restaurant but they need to pay attention to important details. A few examples that are variations of the same problem. The wonderful sashimi dish of jalapeno and yellowtail. There were seven or eight generously cut slices of yellowtail and equally thick cut slices of jalapeno fanned out across half the plate. This resulted in way too much jalapeno per slice of fish. The correct way to present this dish is to cut the fish slice much thinner, make the eight slices 16 and fan them out in a complete circle on the plate. The jalepeno is a condiment here and must be cut very thin so as to not overpower the fish. Do they not have the knife skills to do it right or is this their interpretation of a classic? Unfortunately, the the cucumber salad has the same thickness problem. The slices should be almost translucently thin, here they are so thick they are tough. I asked the manager about this and he said it was "made in advance" so the slices needed to be thicker? A sushi bar with this quality of fish should be making this dish to order as it is done at the best Sushi bars in LA. Sushi is an art form and it is disappointing when the details make the picture less enjoyable than it should be.

Wow I had a chilly reception , we get there maybe 4 minutes before it opens and the rude asian woman screams get out, we arent open yet.. we looked at our watches and it was 3 til now and she screamed..again GET out.. I was shocked that someone would treat a customer like that. needless to say we got out and left and ate somewhere else.. I went with my sisters at night and it was open, food was good but not great where I had to come back.. I kept thinking of the horror of the rude woman last and re living it... the food tasted bad to me.. I went to starbucks while on my day off during the week and was walking to my car and guess what I noticed that the same asian woman was screaming at people who made the same mistake as I and my collegues , getting there a few minutes early and they were being escorted out by the same woman as she was screaming!!! No thanks I am not interested in getting screamed at by some crazy person by coming in when the doors are wide open and then escorted out.. They need to learn to value and RESPECT their customers by communicating better to customers and respectfully telling them if they MIND waiting outside for 3 minutes.. not scream at them.. I dont care if the food is great, i will NEVER RETURN...

Has to be the best sushi around. Fair prices and great friendly staff. The restaurant is kinda small but well worth the wait.

  • Marta S.

The food is good. The service is ok if you dine in. Do NOT get take-out, though. When I called in my order they said 15-20 min. It was over an hour. I had to ask three people what was going on with my order and was told "we're bagging it up right now" several times over a half-hour period before they finally admitted they had forgotten to make something in my order. Why lie? Why not just say that to begin with? I would have been fine with that if I'd just been told! They made no offer to make anything better or do or anything beyond a mumbled "sorry 'bout the delay" on my way out the door. Two bags of now-cold-and-soggy food and one bag of just-made food later, we finally took the lunch we had promised to bring to one extremely hungry nursing mama almost an hour late. This place is closest to home, but if it's going to take an hour and getting lied to in order to get Japanese takeout, I'd rather just drive farther (and the other place we like is way cheaper so worth the 5 min more of driving).

I've been here 4 or 5 times. All have been great. We always sit at the sushi bar and have some of the freshest sushi (clearly high quality fish) I've ever had the pleasure of eating. It's ALWAYS buzzing - no matter what day of the week but somehow never a wait. Great and friendly sushi chef (though I did have one grumpy one). All the staff is extremely attentive. Love it here!!!

My mom goes to Anaba regularly and has brought me along to enjoy delicious sushi, sashimi and nigori sake! Every single specialty roll is delicious, but I like sitting at the bar and telling the chef what kind of fish I like and he creates his own masterpiece. Yellowtail Delight and Albacore Delight are my favorite specialty rolls. The Spanish Mackerel sashimi is amazing if they have it. Pricey but worth it. Beware the dinner hour, everyone knows how good this place is!

Always the highest and freshest quality seafood combined with reasonable prices. The plate presentations are artful and the food flavorful. Also, the staff is friendly and service is quick. You can choose to sit at a table with a marina view or at the bar with a televised sport view ( my fav). Best to make reservations on the weekend as it is a bit small and usually very busy.

Good sushi. I love the variety of the menu and the marina view. The sashimi was very fresh. I am never too trilled about strip mall locations and I am spoiled by the superb sushi restaurants of L.A., so my rating reflects that.

My husband and I love this sushi spot. We actually prefer it over Kabuki in Oxnard, which is much closer to our house. The quality of the sushi is very good. We love all types of tuna and they have so many delicious rolls with tuna. The service was fast and friendly. We recently sat at the sushi bar and the chef was very attentive and professional. We will be back again very soon!

  • Joanna V.

What a great place! the Service is very nice and friendly. They welcome you as you enter and when you leave. the ambience is pretty nice too- a little dimmed lights and warm decor. They even have a cool lights show when someone has birthday with some music. Our food was pretty tasty. We had sesame chicken and salmon teriyaki, as well as some sautéed veggies. Everything was really good- just the right amount of seasoning. The salmon was a decent size- i barely finished it. We also got some rolls that came with our dinner, miso soup and a house salad. It was a very positive experience, we'll surely come back there in the future.

This is by far the best sushi in Ventura and Oxnard. It is always fresh and there are so many creative combinations. I have never had a bad meal here. What's more is that you can sit by the window and look out on the harbor! We have never had a problem with their service. If you are there to celebrate a birthday, they really do it up right. I love the Mango Salmon roll and the garlic tuna sashimi. The Anaba roll is a favorite, too.

I have come to realize that this is my "go to" place for sushi! The food is always delish and comes out pretty fast! While it isnt cheap, I do think it is worth it! We have been everywhere and always try everyone's sushi. This is the best with large portions and beautiful presentation, with all the extra's. There no better than this spot. You may want to make reservation for more than 4 as they are always busy.

This was the best sushi I have ever eaten! The heart attack appetizer was the bomb!! We ordered it with crab instead of tuna!! Ymmmmmmmm I had the teriyaki chicken, California roll, hubby had beef yoka sobe. He ate the entire plate!!!! If in Oxnard, don't miss this place!!!!

The food was good. The service was not. We went twice in a week (The first time we paid at 8:48 pm on a Friday) and these were our first visits--based on yelp reviews. Were were never given the glass of water we asked for--twice. Hot tea was not refilled. It is served in large cups rather than a pot. We sat waiting to order for a long time, Saturday, in the mid afternoon when it was not busy. When we ordered a serving of sushi, it sat on the counter and didn't make its way to us for 10 minutes. I asked our waiter who owns the place and it seems the owner was there and didn't make himself available to ask how everything was. One server seems to have not much love for the food and was unable to recommend dishes.

Best sushi I have had. I like to try many different places, but I keep comparing everything to Anaba now, which every other place fails to compare. Fun environment for birthdays or just to gorge on rolls.

My friends come here a lot and suggested this place. I wasn't disappointed. My wife and I had the Poke salad, spicy tuna roll, California Roll, and the Golden Tiger roll. Good food for the price. Based on reading the other reviews I though it would be expensive but I felt it was very reasonable. They also have a lunch menu which applies for the weekends also. The place is new, clean and has a great location.

Anaba is my second favorite place only because Fisherman's house has THE best spicy tuna rolls. But everything else here is amazing, the view is nice, the sushi is fresh and good and the place is in top condition. It's a little pricey but if you're looking for upscale, then it's definitely worth it.

Omg!! Best sushi place ever. Clean and fresh food/restaurant. If its your birthday they shut out the lights play some cool music and have crazy lights go on and off for like a minute. Fun and great experience to be there. It can be more of an intimate place if you get the seats that lookout into the harbor but its also a great place for the family, or sit at the bar for a quick lunch.

This place was incredible! I went here with a friend on Friday night and we were so happy with our food and service. We came based on reviews and have decided it will be our new go-to spot! Service was very fast and friendly and the rolls were incredibly fresh and delicious. Highly recommend: baked green mussels, rock n roll roll, and the salmon lover delight (not sure if that's the exact name but something like that). SO GOOD!

I don't live in Oxnard so this was my first time eating here and am not familiar with any of the area or other places. I yelped sushi and found this gem! Thank you Yelpers!! Family was visiting in the area so we (my husband & I) drove out to Oxnard to meet them and go out to eat. I'm so glad my trusty Yelpers didn't let me down! Everyone loved the food here. We like traditional and fusion sushi, and our family likes fusion as well and teriyaki. So, it all worked out well. The sushi here is some of the best we've had considering my husband and I are discerning raw fish eaters. We can tell when the fish is poor quality or not made properly, and I must say this place is a rare jewel in California. (Our favorite place is in Nevada and we have a hard time finding an equivalent in Cali, but the quest must go on!) Everything we ordered was delicious! I can't remember all the names of the dishes, but I do remember the delicious firecracker (tuna stuffed jalapenos). Those I have not been able to find so far, other than a Nevada hang out, and was delighted to find them here! They weren't super spicy either. Yay! If we're ever in Oxnard again we'll definitely stop here for some sushi!

Let's face it. Oxnard doesn't have much to choose from when it comes to Sushi Restaurants. Case and point, I only stumbled upon Anaba after driving to 2 different sushi locations only to find out they were closed. My navigation detected this place as the next closest place to where I was. I must say, this place was a pleasant surprise. It had a a sushi bar which is great for people like me who dine by themselves. The sushi chef Sam recommended Toro as the fresh fish of the day which was SUPER fresh and delicious. Ordered the dinosaur roll which essentially is a California roll topped with Avocado and fresh water eel. Holy crap, I just got my bill. $12 for the Toro sushi. Well, ok then. My bill totalled $31 for hot green tea, Toro sushi, seaweed salad, and dinosaur roll. (yes I love to eat) but I'm going to walk away a content person. I definitely recommend this place for families, singles, and couples.

This place has pretty darn good sushi. It was crowded when we went but the servers were prompt in getting us seated and served. I'd have to say this is definitely my favorite sushi place in the Oxnard/Ventura area. I'll be back!

Ok ok, I was FINALLY RE-inspired to write a review of this place after last weekend =D Love the food, love the ambience, love the staff... Way to go Anaba! Let's see, getting down to the food, I have been VERY fortunate to try a plethora of different foods off their menu. My go-to favorite has always been the Albacore Lover's Roll. Fish is always fresh and flavorful, moreso than most any other sushi rolls I've tried @ other places. My cousin stared @ me because I was literally closing my eyes and savoring the bites. Mmm! If you like sauces on your rolls, I'd suggest the dynamite or tiger rolls, or any other one w/ unagi sauce. The chefs know how to complement the food extremely well and my tastebuds are grateful for that. Haven't tried a roll I haven't liked here, so I'd say it's ok to venture out in this restaurant. One of the chefs was even helpful in making a recommendation to me once. Is that a special order I hear calling my name? Yep! Other foods I've tried here include: ~Edamame: comes plain, salted, or w/ hot sauce on it. Haven't seen the latter at too many places. It's a nice little twist that makes a huge difference in flavor. ~Squid Salad ~Seaweed Salad: love the texture on this one. It's cold and refreshing, especially after you down something spicy! ~Udon Noodles: The flavors on the broth really come through in a very refined way. Nice, assertive flavors. One of my recent discoveries which I will be sure to order again. ~Too many rolls to remember the names of. ~Miso soup ~Mango and Avocado Salad: delicious! Again, it's all about how you dress it here. ~They also had chicken and vegetable noodles, which I declined to try, because I wanted to save room for dessert. Heaping plate of food though! ~There was also a cooked fish dish that I stole a bite of. Absolutely divine! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name, but may go ask for it on my next visit. AND THEN... Came dessert. It is a MUST every time! Forget the diet for a night and try the tempura green tea ice cream. They also have a fried banana version, but the tempura is hands down my favorite. The ball of ice cream is fried in tempura batter and then topped w/ heaping mounds of whipped cream and chocolate. I could probably eat it all by myself if people let me. They're good portion controls for me though, hahah =p The waitstaff always makes a noticeable effort to make sure we're comfortable and enjoying our time there. They make us feel at home, constantly asking if we need anything and making friendly banter. Feels like a special occasion every time we step in there. We tend to get the Spanish-speaking waitress for our table, whose name I sadly forgot, but she is great. Truly appreciated! Overall verdict: If you love sushi, this is a MUST. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try!

The best sushi place in town! The rolls are delicious and fresh. We order different rolls every time and have not been disappointed yet. The spicy edamame is super yummy! The atmosphere is great!

Anaba is good sushi. If you are a sushi connoisseur then you have had better. That being said, it is very good. I've had nights here where I thought it was amazing. I think they have improved the quality of their sushi over the past several years. I've been to many sushi places all over California and had better. But living in Oxnard it is the best option hands down. I've been there 20 - 30 times and will continue to get my sushi fix there.

The Place good - Beautiful view out the back window. Nice atmosphere - a big cut above the typical sushi place and a really nice Japanese restaurant for a nice strip. bad - nothing indifferent - hey, it's a very nice place, but casual - that's not "indifferent" The Service good - Everyone very friendly - good recommendations - courteous and prompt. bad - They were out of draft beer at 5:30 on a Sunday. What should I do? Sue them? indifferent - The waitress was a little hard to understand. What should I do? Sue her? (she was great!!) The Food good - Great sushi, decent portions and prices - creative rolls and a super menu - You get what you pay for - this is not for bargain hunters, but these are not Malibu or Beverly Hills prices either . . . far from it. bad - Not a big fan of the cucumber salad which I found had unusual (but not "off") flavoring that was not to my liking at all. indifferent - everything else was good to great Overall - The Real Rating - against it's peer group - 4.5 Stars - This could be one of my 5 favorite sushi restaurants - definitely will be back multiple times as I live nearby. A great fresh fish restaurant is two doors away, and it wouldn't surprise me if they source their fish from the fishermen who run that. This is a really good restaurant of its type, and the look and feel of the menu alone will make you smile.

This is a lively place, close to home for us The chefs are creative yet never overwhelm the star of the show, often a problem with fusion sushi. We love this place. The reasons I can't give them 5 stars are technical flaws only, such as,. paper napkins, and no hot towel or hand wipes. The food is great and the staff, very friendly. The service is usually excellent. The sushi bar seats at least 20 so there is rarely much of a wait The chalk board specials are a sure bet for scrumptious. We recently had the sweet shrimp: the sushi part was refreshing, HUGE and with a mango sauce treatment, The tempura part also HUGE and so sweet. I prefer it with tempura dipping sauce but it was not part of the dish. The Live Scallop was as good. The sushi was finished with black caviar, oshi. . The toro sushi was two ginormous pieces. Like Buttah. We started with oysters, shooters and half shell. They were fresh and sweet and the shooter was easy to eat. We ended with uni. I don't know when I have been more satisfied. The Sushi cafe John served the meal at pleasant pace. He did not serve any thing until we were ready. We never waited for anything. They have outstanding innovative delicious rolls here as well. We came here once and every one picked a roll but they ended up being really similar with crab meat in all of them. That was our fault but pay attention when you order. They were all fabulous. These are the kind of rolls that make California Sushi famous. if you want to please a new-to-sushi fan, this is a great place to start.

First and last time! We where in the neighborhood and decided to try. We get there, sign in waiting list. Where told 15min, 3 people cut in front of us,25min wait. Front desk girl doesn`t even pay attention to self seating rude newcomers as shock doesn`t leave my face. As I see empty table for two,I step up and say we could sit there and only then somebody payed attention to seat us (Like it would be my job to hunt for place to sit,as I am on guest list. Oh well!) Server lady came quickly, we got our water and beer to quinch the thirst. Ordered 3 rolls and a salad. lady brought mango rolls instead of salad. Its on the house, she said. Crowd was roaring, could barely have a conversation, Loud adults and kids. Quite jammed together, no private space. As I can smell and hear everything from tables around us. I don`t know is that me or what, but as its dinner and didn`t seem intended a "slappy joint place"as People came in their lounge clothes,pj`s and "did you forget to look in the mirror" Kills the atmosphere. Overall: Poor food and service quality.

4.5 stars! In the past month I have become the biggest Anaba Fan! Without a doubt it is my favorite sushi restaurant in the 805. My first visit was about two weeks ago. I have been meaning to try it because it was the highest rated sushi restaurant on yelp (at least for Oxnard and I like to spend my $$ locally). It is located at a strip mall and although that is always a turn off it is not too bad for this restaurant. The restaurant is nicely decorated and creates a relaxing ambiance, it also has a view to the harbor. The food here is delicious. I've been here three times (my first time was early March) and I've always left satisfied. They have a huge selection of sushi so it is very hard to get bored. I hope I can remember all the one's I've tried so here it goes: Salmon Tempura Roll, Macademia Roll, Rock n' Roll, crunchy dragon roll, Mango Roll and I've sampled others such as the Jalisco Roll and the Hawaiian Roll. To share, I highly recommend the popcorn lobster roll (I think that's the name) it is very good! I am not lying when I said they were all AMAZING! very well put together and at reasonable prices. Their rolls range from $8-$11.5, pretty average cost so it will not hurt your budget. Their sake is good too, I had the plum sake (cold) and I loved it. The only thing I have not liked about Anaba is the service...I am not the pickiest client, TRUST ME. I understand this place gets busy and there are a lot of customers to take care of but that is not reason to come to our table 5-6 times and try to give us plates we did not order. I also foudn it a bit rude when our waitress asked us if could "pay our bill already, she said it extremely rude and it kind of ruined the mood a little. I mean I understand it was getting late but she could have said it nicer or more "customer friendly". Sigh...so yeah, they need to be more organize and have a customer service workshop for some of their staff. Thiswill not stop me from coming though, the food is too delicous!

Entered Anaba today with raging hanger and the certainty that we were about to be tourist-taken here in Oxnard despite having done my Yelp research beforehand. Hostage Gastronome, HG Jr., and Don't-Care-As-Long-As-It's-Food all nixed Pepe's for fear of broad daylight rape (well, we did see some juvy thugs marring the lovely new Vons the night before), and we were too lazy to backtrack to the kayak renter's recommendation of Yolanda's. The welcoming decor and greetings made me forget my scowl, and I was surprised by the upscale view across the water - I thought this lone shopping center represented the extent of Oxnard yuppidom (there's got to be a new term...). After paddling around for 3 hrs., we felt we'd earned Sapporo/mint lemonade/Ramune soda all around. I also went for the blackboard special of blue fin toro from Spain that I'd heard so much about - yes, melt-in-your-mouth on warm tender rice, but not worth $12.50 for two pieces for a non-conoisseur like me. I forgot that Don't Care's eyes are bigger than her stomach (barely), and didn't object to her order of a bento box, dynamite, Crunchy Hidden Dragon roll, and Golden Tiger roll (their most popular). The waitress let us order off the lunch special menu even though we were 1 1/2 hours past the cut off time. All our food came super fast - miso and salads first - right away I knew this might be something special because the dressing just leapt off the lettuce! It was the usual orange stuff, but more tart yet still balanced. The kids later made fun of me for continuing to eat that iceberg while the fancy rolls sat unfinished... and those rolls were fabulous. The taste and generosity were remarkable, but the fantastic presentation actually caused me to photograph my food (thereby giving myself away as a tourist). I was mainly trying to impersonate a Japanese matron, but no need, the service was very attentive and friendly. The dynamite was the best I ever tasted - the scallops tender and retaining their taste - no hint of mushy mayo, but delectable sauce with a touch of mushrooms. I traded my unagi bowl for HG Jr.'s bento box after he'd eaten most of the beef teriyaki which we learned owed its outstanding flavor to grilling. The gyoza was also a cut above the norm. HG had a salmon bowl and fresh oysters, and began enthusing that this may be the best meal we ever had (he's sincere but has a short memory). We did agree that we should come back before we leave to try more things, and now that I've read the reviews, pretend it's his birthday ;) I think this is a place where I wouldn't be too intimidated to ask for omakase. Thanks Pepe's! If you hadn't looked so sketch, we might have saved almost $200! Oh well, you only come to Oxnard once!

Great tasting sushi overlooking the harbor. The restaurant is large with plenty of space of large or small parties. The service is prompt and friendly. The menu has many pictures to help with choosing food. The sushi is creative with many different options and unique flavors to try. If you don't eat dairy or mayo, make sure you tell your sushi chef or server as the crab meat and the spicy tuna contains it. They offer crab without the mayo for a slightly higher price. A must try!

Took my girlfriend for her birthday and we had great service. The waitress even did those popper things when they were done singing happy birthday. The sushi was outstanding, some of the best I've ever had. All in all a very good experience, 2 thumbs up or 5 stars. Next time I'm in Oxnard I will for sure be stopping to eat here again!

So, we got a little lost finding the place, but I was desperate for sushi on Easter and so we hunted it down. When we walked through the door, we were immediately seated at the Sushi bar and the staff was very friendly. The menu was HUGE. They must have 30 different specialty rolls? I opted to start with yellowtail belly. It was nice and buttery, but not as chilled as I like...my boyfriend got a specialty roll with spicy tuna, avo and asparagus, topped with yellowtail...and it was DIVINE. I don't really like spicy tuna usually (when they put too much mayo) but their spicy tuna was different, almost lime-y. I don't know what it was but it was delicious! I got the princess roll with baked salmon...creamy but rich. And the popcorn lobster was good, the roll itself kind of boring but the lobster tempura was to die for. I'd go here again--service was fast and not overly attentive, and the sushi fulfilled my cravings :)

My husband and I discovered this place when it first opened and 3? 4? years later it is still our favorite sushi place. Yes there have been times when the service has been slow, but 9.9998/10 times the food has always been worth it (once I thought one dish was not as fresh as the normal quality). We've even taken our sushi loving friends here and they loved it too. And now that I've seen the review recommending the chirashi, I will be on that train the next time we go. It's so easy to get stuck in a food rut.

  • Diana M.

This place has become a lot better since it first opened! Their food has always been good, but most of the time their service was lack luster. There was always a wait even when it wasn't full. However I was happy to find that on my latest stop here, the employees were friendly, quick, and mindful. Our food came out quickly and it was all very delicious! Definitely one of the best on this side of town. Recommendations: The dynamite roll, the rainbow roll, and (I can't remember the name now so bare with me) the one that has cream cheese, crab, and salmon and is lightly fried.

  • Jeff W.

I really like this sushi place. It has very nice decor and a friendly wait staff. Most of the rolls are very nice however I find them to be a little big and messy. I like my sushi to be cut into bite size pieces that do not fall apart easily. Now what I really love to get here is the chirashi bowl. Very fresh sashimi neatly displayed on top of ice in the top bowl, then when you take the top bowl off, there is another bowl with steamed rice, covered with furikake and omelot. If you are going to go here most of the rolls are 10 dollars or more and plates around the same. It can definitely get pretty pricey but the portions are decent size.

We had many different rolls all were good quality. I've had sushi in the Tokyo fish market so I know what I'm talking about. The price was reasonable. I would recommend it to others, and I would return.

This is one of my favorite sushi places in Ventura County. I found out about it while eating at Mori Sushi; a hundred dollar per plate place in LA. Apparently their fish guy knows this fish guy. It makes me wonder about the secret world of fish... At any rate, the place is well maintained and the fish is as fresh as can be. It is a bit expensive and their waiters do wear those silly bluetooth-like headsets, but the quality of the food outweighs the distractions.

Taking a leisurely Sunday drive from Tehachapi to Ventura and wandering around looking for a place to have a nice Japanese lunch. We Yelped and found wonderful reviews for Anaba. The service was absolutely wonderful, the sushi fresh and very well made. We had Spicy Tuna Rolls, and the best Seaweed Salad we've ever had anywhere. We also tried the BBQ short ribs which were tender and tasty. The only downside is trying to find this place. The directions on the GPS kept us from finding the place and what should be listed for the directions in Yelp is that Anaba is located at the Vons Shopping Center on 1171 S. Victoria Avenue which would make it easier to find. Definitely a repeater whenever in Oxnard.

I am giving it a 5 stars not because of the food i only took one bite of the Crounch Dragon something roll not sure and my angel ordered the Ch Island roll ( that is also the name of a plaza and apartments minus the roll). It was yummy umm I didnt taste my cousins roll but he ate it all and my daughters did also so that should same thing. I give it 5 stars because of the birthday acknowledgment we are eating chatting feeling great then all of a sudden the musics treble gets a little higher and then lights go dim and stobe-lights hahahahahahahahaha we had to pull a, what is it? " Night at the Roxbury"? move head side to side type of a thing..... lol it was great once over everybody continues to go on with what they were doing. Total flip scene!

Fabulous Sushi, great prices and a whole lotta fun. Fell into this place on a road trip after we passed on Yelps highly praised local restaurant Fishermans Catch. Fishermans Catch looks like a nice place but its not a restaurant, its a place to eat. Saw people streaming into Anaba (which is next door) as we were deciding what to do next. The place was Super crowded but they managed to squeezed us in at the Sushi Bar. Met a really fun guy right away and he told us to let the Sushi Chef order for us. Decided that was a good plan and we never looked back. Amazing sushi prepared with care and skill. Blue Fin Tuna, Amber Jack and an amazing whole Mackeral cut and plated half sushi and half sashimi. Food was fresh our seat mate got us drunk and the atmosphere was a blast. Definitely worth another stop over!

Of the places I've eaten sushi here in Port Hueneme, this is rated third, which is actually no small feat. Surprisingly, there is actually quite a bit of good sushi places out here. The other two ahead of this place is Sushi Holic and Sushi Hanada. The place focuses on fusion type sushi, although you can get traditional as well. But if I wanted traditional sushi, I would go to Sushi Hanada. I don't believe I've ever had a bad roll here, and the quality is quite good. Service is good, but nothing memorable. Good decor and ambiance. The main reason I don't give it a 5 is because there was nothing that stood out to me to make it stand out above the rest.

Finally able to get in and it didn't disappoint! Had a Flaming Joy Roll, California Roll and then Yaku Soba Popcorn Lobster. Delicious and enough I had to take some home. We will certainly come again...get here before 6pm evenings or expect to wait and possibly wait.

Min is amazing and really cares about his customers. I stopped in because of the yelp reviews and they did not do me wrong. Thank you Min. Excellent service, excellent food, excellent value isn't that what it's all about win-win for all. You really can see sincerity when you sit right in front of the manager who is communicating with the staff and cutting the sushi. I want what he has. They don't teach this in schools...

I recently moved to Hawaii from Oxnard and I'm finally writing a review on Anaba. The main reason, no sushi place I've eaten at in Hawaii has compared to Anaba. My experience everytime I've been there has been amazing. I have introduced family and friends to this restaurant and they all agree that it is delicious. My favorite specialty roll is the Golden Tiger Roll. Oh...my...gosh, this roll is heaven. My second is the Jalisco Roll, I'm a little bias since that is the state of Mexico where I was born but it's still pretty tasty. Oh and the gyoza is to die for. I think I've tried everything on the menu and I have not been disappointed. Now in regards to the service, I have not had an issue in all the times I've been to Anaba. If you time it right you're wait time will not be long. But it does get pretty busy during dinner, especially on the weekend. Needless to say, I really recommend this restaurant. Whenever I make it back to Oxnard I will definitely be stopping by to grab some sushi.

The word: "Anaba" translates to "happy belly" according to my inner foodie/fat girl ... I was born, raised in Oxnard and I am excited that Oxnard has decent sushi joint near the harbor. Too bad, the restaurant doesn't have more of that stunning view of the harbor-oh well, lets talk about more important aspects... like the FOOD! The portion size (huge sushi rolls) certainly gets one full, satisfied, for the overall reasonable price. It was my bestie's birthday and we ordered: 1. Albacore lover roll: shrimp tempura, asparagus & avocado inside. Seared albacore, crunchy onion, ponzu sauce and hot sauce on top $10.95 2. Lobster tail roll: blue crab meat, avocado, & cucumbers on the inside. Wrapped w/soy paper and topped with lobster, mushrooms, in some type of mayo/creamy sauce $13.95 3. Macadamia roll: green bean tempura, crab meat, avocado, & cucumber inside. Spicy tuna, macadamia nuts, tempura crunch stuff, and eel sauce on top $11.95 4. Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream $5.95 Service was okay. It was a busy Saturday night, so we waited a bit for a table. People passed by our table to primarily clear dishes. When the bill came, I paid cash and tipped 20%, but ordinarily waitresses usually ask if you need change back or just automatically bring the difference of what one paid -did not happen (thought that was a bit tacky). Gotta mention though, my BFF and I sat, ate, laughed and caught up till almost closing time and staff didn't pressure us to leave or order more food -I appreciated that. I'd be back to dine again

Food was ok..restaurant was clean.. prices are reasonable..the 3 stars are for the service!! would give 1 star but don't want to affect the restaurant's score..anyhow was by far the worse service ever...so unfriendly...forgot stuff from our order..never removed our dirty plates from the table..and took forever with our bill!!!

  • Joann A.

We love the food here however we frequently call in our orders and almost every single time we call, the ordering and pick up process has never been smooth. Also, it is a little annoying that they don't have their own website with access to an online menu. We have two little ones at home and we prefer take out so ordering has always been a challenge. Other than that, the food has always been consistently good.

This place is a great sushi location. They have clean bathrooms which I really appreciate. As far as food, this place is great. The price is so reasonable. It is about 10 to 12$ a roll, that is such a good deal considering living in DC and paying so much more for sushi rolls. So I kind of ordered everything. I recommend their jasmine tea it is only $4 for a brew. The tea has strong floral notes and pretty color when brewed. This tea is perfect for one to two people. They also add more hot ware to your tea leaves so your second brew is less strong, but the tea is not bitter at all so it is great for a second brew. Their rolls come with a side of marinated seaweed salad. Their seaweed salad is sweet and tart. It's a great palette cleaner. The one thing I wish is that they place multiple roll orders on one large plate instead of many small plates. We did not have enough room for our food. This made it a little uncomfortable to eat with our dinner party. The wait staff is awesome. We were thirsty so one of my husband's friend joked and said he wanted a lot of water, so she brought him two cups of water. It was very sweet and silly and so funny.

Probably some of the best sushi you can eat in this town for your money. This place is no hype just walk up to the bar and watch the sushi masters at work! My favorite is the Dynamite and shrimp tempura. They also have temp angel if you want fried rice but the sushi is where its at. It's always so fresh, the staff always nice and attentive. For birthday they do Sally lights show that's where amusing. I will even go as far as to say take drive all the way to Victoria for this sushi because it's a gem.

This was our first time here. Followed the recommendations on Yelp. We were not disappointed. The Sush looked like the pics taken. And it was fantastic. We araived at 5:30 and the place was already packed. The service was ok. Not stellar, not bad. But they got the job done, We sat at the sushi bar and really had a good time. The chef was great, and very attentive. The food was really good. The sush was great. My wife ordered the BBQ ribs with tempura. The ribs were very hard to chew. Very fatty and dry. The tempura was good though. Everything else was a kick. If the meat had been better Id have given the place 5 stars. I will go back. Just will not order the BBQ ribs. My wife will try the chicken I think next time. Check them out and see for yourselves. It was a nice surprise and I'm glad we went.

My husband and I take our dog for a walk to Sea bridge often, so we had been wanting to try this place and tried last weekend. Food was good and service was nice, but sorry, because I'm a Japanese, I have to be tough marker about Japanese food.....I ordered Sushi Combo A : 5 pieces sushi, typical California roll, miso soup and salad. Although salmon and sea urchin were good, everything was ok and pricy to me. I miss Japanese authentic sushi...you can eat better sushi in Japan at cheaper price... I know, I know. I'm in US now....

Oh goodness how I love this place. I always get their spicy edamame(delicious). I judge a sushi place first by their spicy edamame! And I order the Golden Tiger Roll(fried and delicious)! They have Ramune which is always fun to open and so delicious to drink! Their miso soup is so packed with flavor I highly recommend ordering it while you wait! And that spectacular view just tops it off.

It's really going down hill. Sushi rice was al dente. Customer next to got to the bottom of their white sake bottle and found a napkin. I order toro n got some bright red tuna but was charged for toro. If you want a great Sushi place, this is not it. If u want American sushi rolls with al dente rice, this is your place. Maybe it's new owners or just too busy to care. It's not the same place

Bleh! Poor service and trying to hold a conversation with one of the chefs is next to impossible. I speak Japanese so that's not the problem. The sushi is mediocre and the rice is just rice if they use sushi su with the rice they must just hold the rice over the su and say a prayer. Sushi su is a mixture of vinegar and sugar worked into the rice which is what sushi rice is. If they use it I sure can't taste it. Try and order Aji and they try to discourage you for some odd reason, declaring " it's a whole fish do you really want a whole fish ? ". What the hell? Yeah I want aji damn it, if you don't want to prepare it then don't put it on the menu. Overall this joint is way too Americanized for my taste. Hanada and Masa Sushi are so much better it's a joke.

This is one of the most amazing places to have sushi! We just ordered: Crunchy Onion Albacore Sashimi Chilean Sea Bass Awesome Roll Asparagus Tempura Roll Yellowtail Delight All of these were really good. The BEST was the Crunchy Onion Albacore Sashimi, the Chilean Sea Bass and the yellowtail Delight. Those are AMAZING! This place is Fantastic!! Try it. It's one of the best in Ventura County!!!

Wow! Great sushi in Oxnard! Had popcorn scallop roll and it was delicious! Hubby had short ribs and it was so tender. Kids ordered from "kids menu" and it came in bento boxes. Great place for families. Btw, they will do a whole light, show, disco number when it is your birthday. What a fun place!

I've been coming to Anaba for years (6years give or take a year) love the place, we have our own chopsticks on site! The sushi chefs are friendly and accomodating and wait staff too however I feel like it's been on a decline in quality the last couple take out orders. The spicy scallop roll was too saucy and not enough scallop. The spicy tuna roll was ok because the tuna didn't taste fresh(melt in your mouth kind of fresh) The seaweed used for wrap was so chewy (rather than crisp) I was scared a tooth or filling would fall out! Green dragon roll had too much rice such that I should have just ordered rice. Oh Anaba I hope you aren't turning toward mass production and losing your quality!

Ok so the food is pretty good. But my 3 star rating is for the overall establishment. I was expecting a lot more since I read all of the positive Yelp reviews. I think this is the first time we've been disappointed by following the reviews. We were seated right away because we got there at 6 right before the dinner rush. Because we had our son with us and asked for a high hair, we were seated all the way in the front but behind this large cabinet separating us from the entry door. So we were basically stuck in a small corner facing a wall. Not the most comfortable spots when you are spending $100+ for dinner. The service was horrible. We had to flag down the waitress each time we wanted something. And to top al of that off we had to shoo away little flies the whole time we were there. And the floor was super sticky. I'm not sure if we would consider going back anyway.

Sushi was so fresh! Try a sashimi plate, you won't find it any fresher then this place. Step outside and enjoy the harbor at sunset. Might as well walk next door and and bring home some shrimp from the fresh seafood market.

Loooooove this sushi!! It's right next to a fish market so I assume that's why all their sushi is so fresh ;) Order the king crab leg sashimi, so sweet and delicious. The tuna tostadas are my other favorite-lots of tuna come on those!! I would have given 5 stars but sometimes the waitstaff is oblivious. Last good roll I had here was the Snow Cone (I think that's the name) a baked roll with white tuna yum yum

Hidden gem in the farm lands of Oxnard. Throughly impressed from the fun atmosphere, outstanding funny staff, and most importantly good sushi. John is awesome, if I'm in the area again I will come back!!!

It's Anaba. It's known as the best in town for a good reason. Pros: So much sushi. What a great selection. The menu has pages and pages and pages of rolls. A sushi lover could die happy here. I always sit at the sushi bar cause that's all I order. Quality of the food is very high. Cons: The music sucks. I really don't want to listen to top 40 pop while eating a food as elegant as sushi. Smooth Jazz would fit this establishment much better.

Not for food but rather yet service! Wanted to have a birthday gathering here , but they were NOT accommodating. Very disappointed. Had a group of 15 people, had told everyone about the fabulous food but we were told since we are a larger group we would have to wait an extra 30mins to an hour on top of the regular wait time. They said they don't service large groups in the weekend. Love the food just sad with service. I would change the notation that they are good for groups- they are not.

This is one of the better sushi places to eat at! I sometimes stop by here when I'm going down to LA. I always get their specialty rolls which always come out great. Every time I come here, the sushi is always super fresh. I think they get new fish in like every day or two.

Down here for a conference and wanted some good sushi. I must admit service was fast and staff attentive. The menu has an extensive list of very unique rolls. Most unique to me was what they called popcorn shrimp (aka crayfish....uhhhh no thank you). Crayfish aside the other choices were great. The gyoza was decent and my Lobster Roll was delicious though more like a sushi roll with pizza toppings. The outstanding flavors were there and while my meal was by no means a traditional look they had some other choices that looked very traditional. With so many amazing reviews I am sure anyone who loves sushi will find something on the menu they love.

Long overdue Yelp review. Hands down my favorite sushi spot. Every item I've ordered has been delicious! This place is busy, so expect a wait during the weekends or around holidays. I especially love ordering the Spanish Mackerel (it's usually a special on the chalkboard). I usually have the fish Sashimi style with the whole fish deep fried at the end. Delicious! The sushi bar is always busy and the chefs appear to love their job. They are always interacting with the customers. There are lots of regulars that come which is always great to see. They do go all out for birthdays and even have a warning outside the restaurant. They use loud music and strobe lights, so be aware! :) This place is definitely worth a visit, will not disappoint.

Anything I have ever ordered here has been delicious and amazing. The golf pro hand roll was a life changer for me. SO GOOD. The Anaba roll was really good also. The service for take out is a bit shaky. The girl often seems confused. But I'll deal with that for the chance to eat such good food.

Four stars because the food was really good. In fact, I wouldn't given it five stars but the service was a little off. She messed up our order twice and was hard to understand. The bathrooms weren't the cleanest. Overall the prices were good for the portions! Food tasted delicious!

When thinking about all the sushi restaurants I have been to, this restaurant easily beats many. Anaba is on par with the best and I will definitely be coming back. The service was great, we were seated as soon as we arrived with no wait. Our chef, Min, was very polite and answered any and all questions we had and gave us a few recommendations for the more popular items on the menu. We never once felt rushed and even made a few customizations to our order. We did not have to wait long as we received our order within a few minutes. Min is very skilled in his art and stated that he has been doing this well over 20 years. The food was outstanding and if someone is ordering just the sushi, they are truly missing out on what this restaurant has to offer. The sushi, however, is what makes this place so great. According to the chef, the fish is flown in from around the world (Thailand, Hawaii, and Spain to name a few) and they receive their fish on Friday mornings to prepare for the weekend. Real wasabi is also used at this restaurant, where most sushi restaurants just use a fake wasabi that consists of mostly horshradish. The sauces used for many of their rolls are very flavorful and actually have some spiciness to them. Both the nigiri and the rolls were expertly made, consistent in flavor throughout and well-constructed, not falling apart once while we ate. If you are in the Ventura County area and are looking for a great place to get sushi, Anaba will not disappoint you.

Food - AWESOME. Decor - Modern & clean Service - happy & friendly (despite a slight language barrier) My date and I had the Mango Salmon roll, Yellowtail & Salmon Nigiri, and Cucumber Salad. EVERYTHING was impeccably good, particularly the large cuts of yellowtail. The salmon was light and buttery too. Henry was enthusiastic and cheerful and made our experience better than pleasant. I'm already looking forward to another trip to Anaba.

Someone recommended this sushi spot in Oxnard. Got the appetizer of fried calamari legs and the sashimi plate. Sorry, not sure what the exact name is but that plate alone was $18.99, if that helps. Fried calamari legs were good. The breading was really good. But the way that you have to basically swallow the whole thing at once is difficult. The texture of the calamari is to hard to break up so you don't have a choice but to stuff your mouth for about two minutes until you can safely swallow the calamari. I suggest they cut them a bit before they fry them. It's not cute watching someone do that and it's not fun having to chew for a long time while having your mouth stuffed. The sashimi plate was great! They brought out miso soup, a salad and rice along with about 12 pieces of mixed tuna, salmon and other seafood I don't know. Miso soup was good, salad dressing was great along with the rice. I like the red sugary substance they added to the rice. Gave it a good kick of sweetness! The sashimi was great. Prefect actually. Will definitely come back. Would come back more if they lowered their prices. Just seemed a little steep to me.

Have ordered to-go and dined in a couple times. I would say not bad... Satisfies that sushi fix whenever it hits! They offer a wide selection on the menu. The ambiance was nice... They have a small waiting area in the front of the restaurant. And when it's somebody's birthday.. ooohh.. yea you feel like you're in a Korean restaurant because they do the whole lights down, flashy lights, and loud music. The fish all tasted pretty fresh. When we ordered to-go, we got all rolls. I don't remember specifically which ones we ordered, but they were all good! When I dined in here, I ordered the salmon sashimi salad (points from me for having an all salmon sashimi salad!). I didn't want anything too heavy and this salad was perfect! Not too big, not too small. It had a light dressing and just enough salmon :) The miso soup here is also good! It seemed like the waitresses could've used a little bit more help. Actually, most of the times I've been here the service was slow.

  • Tarah S.

Only reason I won't give 5 stars is because the service was very slow for a Sunday night!! Came around 7:30/8 and waited too long for everything. Food, WAS AMAZING. The ahi sashimi was delicious. We had the golden tiger, salmon tempura and the Garlic tuna(?) No complaints about the food! Some of the best sushi we have ever had, in fact. Would definitely recommend it!

Stopped by this small sushi place on our way to Downtown Ventura since a friend recommended it. Sushi was fresh tasting and their lunch specials are a great deal! They also had uni which is a plus since a lot of places lately I've been to have been out. I don't know if it's the best sushi in Ventura since I'm not in Ventura that often but definitely a solid good sushi spot which is often hard to find in any city.

The reviews did not do this place justice. We were a split group of picky eaters and adventurous eaters, and we were all very happy with our choices. I had the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño... Fantastic. The fish was all exceptionally fresh, and we were attended to by multiple, very enthusiastic servers (one may have been a manager, actually.) Is it the greatest sushi in the entire world? Maybe not. But it was an exceptionally good meal, and reasonably priced, and we all left happy, so I would say it was a five star experience.

Wow, another great find in Oxnard.......how is this possible? No offense, but I never equate 5 stars with anything in Oxnard. Yet, Anaba succeeded in convincing me they deserve 5 stars. The last time I tried a sushi restaurant that had 4.5 stars (Kanda Sushi in T.O.), I absolutely hated it. But I digress because this review is happily about a restaurant that deserves all 5 stars it's getting. Anaba is tucked away in a corner of a shopping center. On one side is the parking lot, and on the other is the Oxnard harbor.......quite a decent view of the harbor from the restaurant. Nice surprise. What's on the inside of the restaurant, however, is an even better surprise. It's not the largest restaurant, but they definitely pack in a lot of tables (although not at all cramped) and a nice-sized sushi "bar." We went on a Saturday night, and it was hopping.... very crowded, yet we got seated right away. The menu, pretty much all things sushi, sashimi, rolls, and a few other assorted items, actually goes on and on for pages. Lots and lots and LOTS of options. It really took me a long time to review every single item as I didn't want to miss anything. While I was reviewing the menu, all of a sudden, the lights started flickering and flashing, a siren went off, and I wondered WTF ? Then, this blaring music plays on overhead speakers to some unfamiliar tune (Japanese version of a birthday song???? don't know), but all the waitresses started clapping while one waitress comes out with a hot fudge sundae with a candle. Kinda cheesy, kinda fun, and not at all something I'd have expected from a sushi restaurant. It made me smile, so it was worth it. Back to the sushi........ we ordered a plate of salmon sashimi that came with 8 very thick and healthy looking salmon pieces........the same came with an order of yellowtail sashimi. We then also ordered 3 specialty rolls, one of which was the salmon lovers roll, another was the yellowtail delight, and the third, sadly, I don't recall its name (I should've taken a "to-go" menu), but it was definitely salmon. The fish was ultra fresh, the pieces and rolls were amply stuffed with whatever ingredients they promised, and my husband and I devoured it ALL. We can really eat lots of sushi, and it was delicious. I was super impressed with this place, and I was even happier the 4.5 overall rating is QUITE REAL !! The only criticism I have, and it's not a big deal at all, is that their version of spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all. I had some chili oil on the side, and that went a long way in fixing the issue, so it was no big deal. I was just more surprised at how mild it was, but again, it was quite fixable. I love this restaurant, and aside from the mounting cost of eating all that sushi, I really don't care because it's THAT good. Great restaurant, great find, great food. Yaaay !!!

First time here with a large group on a Friday Night. The place was packed. They will not take a reservation and really we're not prepared for a large group. An hour and a half later we were seated. Service was fair to good. Again the place was packed. The food was Top shelf. Fresh, Tasty, if your into presentation it did have some flare to it. Portion sizes were good for this type of venue. We ordered the Teriyaki Salmon it was prefect. Not dried out, great flavor not all teriyaki sauce. The Lobster Roll was Outstanding. As was the Tempura Asparagus Roll. So Choice a must try. I'll definitely be coming back for a smaller dinner with the wifey. All and all it was avery good night out with friends. Our Server Henry (From Good Morning Vietnam) was good sport and very attentive. Saki Bomb!

Came to visit Anaba for the first time last night. I spoke with someone right before they opened to let them know I was celebrating something special there last night and by far they did not disappoint! Everything from the service, the staff's consideration of our occasion, the food, the ambiance and really the whole experience was just amazing! I have to say it is not the best sushi I have ever had, but for Ventura County it is very, very good sushi. This is going to become one of my regular sushi places from now on and if they keep up their consistency on the food and service than they may even win over that fifth star :) Items to consider: Anaba Roll - Fresh fish and delicious Golden Tiger Roll - Fried tempura deliciousness Seared Ono Sushi - Simply mouthwatering There are many more I wanted to try but honestly how much can we eat in one night ;) Next time I might do the sushi bar experience, this time I settled for the water view tables. Oh yeah and before I forget, try their Jasmine flower tea, simply amazing!! Just don't let it steep too much ;) And heed this warning, when they say its spicy, they mean it!!! Great job so far Anaba, keep it up :)

What the hell did I just do. Sat at the bar, my chef was cool the food was great. Service was confused as hell, hostess seating people all out of order people getting pissed that they got skipped over, my server seemed confused by the order I gave her...I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a yellowtail roll with a beer. Here's the kicker, sat for about 10 mins trying to get somebody's attention to get the bill. It wasn't until I stood up to leave and my chef realized I never paid that he asked if nobody gave me a check to which he summed my server who arrived another 5 mins later. Food was good but good sushi is easy to find

I could not believe how bad the service was the other day. Granted, my sister and I had a few young noisy kids, it was packed and hectic to begin with. A ten minute wait for a table turned into over 20. Sitting at the table we ordered drinks and that's it, no one ever came back. We watched all the tables around us fill up and orders taken. We were so exhausted with hungry anxious children we had given up. But when we saw the people who came in after us complete their meal- we realized how long we sat there without an order. I was livid, we paid for the drinks and got up. Over an hour had passed. A woman followed us out, I assume the owner- and for this I give her a redeeming star. She wanted to know what had happened. I explained it to her and she was very apologetic and offered us a box of edamame to go. Which, as a nice gesture, a box of edamame isn't going to do a thing for starving children and a wasted evening.

I haven't ordered a lot here as this is our go-to spot almost solely for uni and oyster shooters, which are awesome and not too salty from the ponzu, but I've never not liked something I'd ordered here. In fact, the last time I'd gone we'd ordered this scallop trio dish which was amazing! Look for this on the menu.

I think about this experience and laugh because it was the most ridiculous service I've ever received at a restaurant. We traveled to California to visit some friends and we went to Oxnard to get some beach time (3 hrs from their house). They recommended this restaurant since we wanted fresh sushi. So we went on a double date, the ambiance was great, we ordered a ton of food and all had alcoholic drinks too. Let me just say it started with great service, and the sushi was AMAZING and so fresh. I was going to do 5 stars for sure. We had reservations for 8:30 I think? I don't know exactly but basically when we were about half way through our meals, they came to tell us politely that they closed so they locked the doors, etc. That was fine. Then it gradually went downhill from there- the waitress came over twice wanting us to pay so that they could close the register while we were eating. The lights came on and there went the ambiance. The staff all congregated around the register with their purses, lunch bags, etc. Staring and glaring at us. We had to rush and finish our food and all of our drinks; it was very awkward, rude and disrespectful. I'm still shocked by the situation! Normally at a restaurant if people are there after closing you get the same good service as everyone else and they stay until you leave and don't rush you. Us and one other couple stuck it out until the end until we couldn't handle being glared at any longer. Not sure I'd go back just because of the service.

I have been to Anaba numerous times and I love it here! Some of the best rolls around and a great waterfront view as well! Their menu of rolls keeps changing to cater to vegans and having healthier options. Highly recommend the hand rolls and any of the specialty rolls. Excellent service and lots of parking. If you are celebrating a birthday, it turns into quite an event here - the whole place turns into disco light club for a minute or two with everyone clapping and their version of the birthday song. Can get busy on Friday and Saturday nights. I would recommend going for dinner - lunch seems different - not sure if they have different chefs for lunch, but it doesn't seem quite as on point as dinner time.

The sushi was okay. I had the Princess roll. The service was REALLY fast which is a good thing. The portions are a little small but hey its affordable and fast so whatever. The staff seemed to rush my party and give us dirty looks, but at the end of our meal they had a nice birthday surprise for my mom. My family and I went to the restaurant for my moms birthday and she loved it so I guess that is all that really matters. In short, go to Anaba if you are short on time (they're fast) and want some very americanized sushi. A few of the workers are actually quite nice.

I believe Anaba is either one of the most, if not The Most over hyped sushi place in Ventura County. I am very picky when it comes to customer service, especially at a sushi restaurant. I feel in a sushi environment, you need to be acknowledged and taken care of. I'm not much about decor like the majority of people when they enter a sushi joint. they expect it to look a certain way, its about the service and especially the food. I have only been to Anaba twice and both times I have walked out. The place is very cluttered, the seating arrangements is terrible. The staff is, I don't even know what to make of the staff, they seem to piss me off each time I have went. Now I cannot judge this place off of their sushi because I have never tried it. So this review is geared towards their service. The first time I went, was for a dinner party. The waiting sucks, you have to stand somewhere outside. the place is so small, narrow. As mentioned above, seating was horrible, felt very cramped when they sat us. They were quick to take our drink orders, felt rushed in doing so. Also felt like they weren't comprehending when i would ask questions. Caught myself constantly having to repeat myself to the waitress. Long story short, after placing our orders, and these are our first "appetizer orders" 30-35 minutes have passed by with nothing to be delivered. Nothing except for the water I ordered. You can call me impatient but after 30 minutes with not one sushi roll, uni shot or anything?? Thats just a joke, I walked out and went to another restaurant. Second time I went to Anaba was again, due to a party. I told myself I would never show up again to this place due to the first experience I had. So again, we get seated, its very cluttered, considering the place is so narrow you can hear everyone. I feel people have to speak at a louder tone. I was hungry, I did not want to wait for the waitress to take everyones order. So as she was taking drink orders, I told her I wanted to send in my order now and i would again order later one with the rest of the party. She told me no, that I had to wait because it would be easier for her to take down the orders all at once. Now what kind of BS is that? Its almost identical to rejecting an appetizer order because thats pretty much what I was ordering, So again, I questioned her and repeated what she just told me " you cannot take my order because its easer for you to take all of ours at once" she nodded and after that nod, I got up and left. This place is horrible at service, If I did wait to order with everyone else for the waitress conveinance, I probably would have waited an hour until I was fully served, considering it takes 20 minutes to order and an additional 35 to receive your sushi. Bad experiences both times i been there. Walked out twice. Customer service and satisfaction apparently doesn't mean anything to them. I instead went down the street to Sushi Ichiban. The staff, especially the owner are so friendly, very kind and very courteous. Sat me down immediately, took my drink order while I was looking over the menu. When they came back with my drink they also had miso soup that was complimentary. LOVED IT.(majority of places charge for it and most of the time it tastes like crap) The owner kept making jokes, kept making me laugh. The waitress kept my area constantly clean. Smiled everytime she spoke with me. Made sure I was taken care of. The place is small but roomy, didn't feel congested even though it was packed. The sushi was nice, clean, fresh, thick slabs of fish, and delicious. AND the complimentary sushi roll they gave me after I finished my order, They definitely won my service.

Is Anaba really ALL that AND a bag of chips?!? That's a pretty IMPRESSIVE yelp rating here! Well, it certainly is a POPULAR Oxnard sushi joint cuz things were hoppin' this Saturday evening! Whole BUNCHA peeps waitin' to sample the goods! Located in the Seabridge Marketplace on the extended part of The Oxnard Harbor, corner of Victoria Ave. & Wooley Rd. As there is a concentration of eateries here, close parking requires a lucky charm during peak hours. Nice Japanese motif inside and not the typical "sardine crampiness" that can be seen @ sushi joints. Staff seemed friendly and attentive throughout. Hannah, our server, was a SWEETIE! We sampled a few items... *BEEF GYOZA: Comes with 6 pieces, cooked just right. Pan-fried, not deep-fried. *ANABA ROLL: Low-carb roll using thin cucumber slices to wrap "crab" & salmon/tuna/albacore glob. Wifey enjoyed it, but I thought the cucumber watered down the taste. And, it seemed to fall apart easily. *YELLOWTAIL BELLY SASHIMI: This was served as REALLY thin cuts here. Probably the thinnest sashimi I've ever been given. DEFINITELY, have had better. *SALMON LOVER ROLL: No complaints here. Nice cuts of salmon on top of a flavorful mix of stuff wrapped in white rice. *DINOSAUR ROLL: Turns out you can opt to have brown rice on your sushi rolls at Anaba, for an extra charge. This was a tasty eel roll that arrived just the way we requested it. The fact it was called "Dinosaur" tested the imagination of the young squires and made for interesting talk ;) *SPIDER ROLL: My little man loved this roll. So much, after poppa's photo op, it disappeared in a flash!!! The "spider" part was cooked just right. *SHRIMP TEMPURA ROLL: For the little man's second choice, it was this. Happily gobbled this up, too! KIDS POPCORN LOBSTER PLATE: Popcorn lobster FOR KIDS?!? Wow! My light-eater loved it. He thought it tasted better than the popcorn shrimp he usually likes to eat. Worthy of a visit? Absolutely, especially in Oxnard. Knock your socks off Amazing? Not today, but good enough to make my family fans. Food arrived promptly and whatever was missed, they remedied the problem quickly and with a smile. There is mention on the menu that imitation crab is used for all rolls, and real crab can be substituted for an extra charge. Lots of California Roll varieties to choose from and standard sashimi options. Also a bunch of other food stuff choices except ramen. Reservations are accepted, but NOT on Friday & Saturday.

One year latter, we continue to enjoy our Sunday lunches at Anaba. My children have come from Santa Clarita to visit and love our suggestion to eat at this place. It is great to know that, whatever we order from their menu, will certainly pleases us. Nina makes us feel welcome with her warm greetings and personal touches. Thanks Nina!

We live close by and I feel like Anaba is our neighborhood gem. I'm super picky about sushi and this is up there with the best. The owners and staff clearly take pride in what they do. The servers are all smart, friendly and attentive. And the decor is actually beautiful. The first time I went a few years ago I was skeptical because of its strip mall location. But as strip malls go, this one is pretty nice and the vibe out back towards the harbor is nice too. It's worth the trip for people not in the neighborhood. About 4 miles from the 101 / Victoria Ave. exit. Sooooo good!

I had high expectations for this place... sadly I was quite disappointed... We were seated fairly quickly but after that it went downhill... It took 15 minutes for someone to get our drink order.. and 45 minutes later no one had even gotten our order yet! We ordered the following: Chicken udon for the kids Sashimi combo A Sushi combo C Squid salad Albacore delight roll The sashimi was decent could have had more pieces... My SIL liked her sushi combo The udon was ok.... lots of overly charred chicken...not enough noodles. But my husband waited an extra 20 minutes for his roll to come out. We were almost finished eating when his food came! They tried to make it up to us by offering free edamame but sadly it wasn't enough... no offer for drink refills until the end of our meal... Ps _ the restrooms didn't have tp! I can't say I'll be returning anytime soon.. Pros: the view was nice The server was apologetic The place was clean

It was friday night and the place was packed . at first i really didn't like it that we had to wait a bit to get a table but i guess this is normal for these types of places. Once we got a table food and drinks then i understood why people wait a bit to get in this place. The food was delicious and the pitcher of beer i got was really good. The server was very nice and and the service was xcellent.. I am coming back for sure and i recommend it to those looking for a good meal in a good enviroment. Thanx Anaba

Well! Being from Los Angeles (the valley) area, We didn't think this place was what everyone made it out to be. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, service was acceptable, but nothing to highly recommend to my friends if they're in town. I guess these people haven't ate real bomb sushi. The 818 has so many that are better that this place was average in my book. Pretty good, but not excellent. Maybe might give it a try again if I'm in town, but maybe not. Their anaba tempura banana desert was good!

Anaba on a Sunday night for two? Sign me up! My girlfriend and I were greeted by Hannah upon arrival and were recommended to the sushi bar for immediate service, the move to the bar was well worth it! For appetizers we started off with the edamame and calamari rings which the sushi chefs double checked the order to confirm. The chefs hands were flying as orders were going out left and right, as our sushi chef Brian promptly prepped our two orders the dinosaur roll and the scorching 911. Usually with speedy service, you lose points with presentation however this was not the case as our rolls looked beautiful. The icing on top of the cake was this dessert crafted like a bear. We came in with an open mind and are very happy with everything. Can't wait to come back!

Best sushi in the area! My favorite is the dinosaur roll and the dynamite roll. Service can be a little slow at times but the sushi chefs are very friendly.

Nothing bad, just a lot of hype for little actual good stuff. I spent $45.00 for my dinner (yea, just me) and felt hungry when I paid the bill. Pretty food tasted fine, just kinda felt ripped-off.

Food is very good. We eat here for lunch once in a while. Hours are a little stiff, make sure they are open before you go. Decent $$ but not cheap.

Another one of our favorites for sushi nearby. Everything is always good. Nina, one of the waitresses is awesome. Request to sit in her area. She's funny, outgoing & prompt. One of the few sushi places open on Sunday. Keep up the good work guys!

I was greeted by everyone there and was seated down ASAP. The server was nice, she immediately brought me something to drink and waited to take my order. I ordered the "Sushi A combo" that came with 5 pieces of sushi and a CA roll, and served with miso soup and salad. The miso soup was... Pretty unusual. I already knew I wasn't going to like it when k saw her bring it out. It was an unusual color, and it tasted like... MSG. So that kind of turned my stomach. I know there is different kinds of miso (red, white, etc) but this just left an unusual taste in my mouth. The salad was... I guess nice. It was just lettuce and spinach leafs dressed in ginger dressing. Would have been nice with maybe a bit of carrot or tomato or something. The ginger dressing also didn't taste so... Fresh The sushi was good though. Very nice quality and it all kind of just melts in your mouth. I was in love. The only thing I didn't like was the CA roll. The roll was a great size, but after all those great flavors it kind of kills the vibe, if you know what I mean. Despite the negatives, for the sushi, I will definitely be coming back :)

Definitely will be back sushi fresh and delicious staff really friendly attentive and chatty. Great location too you can go walk around the harbor if you eat too much like we did!

Best sushi I've ever had in my life. The customer service left something to be desired. It took a very long time for our server to ask if we were ready to make our order, or if we had any questions, and she didn't check on us. We had to beg for attention. However, the sushi was SO FRESH, such unique pairings of flavors, rolls I've never seen anywhere else, and reasonably priced! The ambiance was also great. I cannot wait to go back!!! Hopefully next time we will have a more attentive server. I must admit, the sushi MORE than made up for her negligence. Put this on your list of sushi to try! A new favorite for my boyfriend and me for sure. He contemplated driving the 120+ miles just to get it one afternoon. Yes, it's that good. Go! Go! Go!

Love love this place. I recommend the hidden dragon roll & the salmon lover role. It was soo good! We also ordered short ribs which were okay, I would opt for the roles any day though. We enjoyed the view of the harbor as we were seated next to the window and also the fantastic service! A friendly man was always so chipper serving us and he was adorable and cute as a button! They also include a small portion of sea weed salad with the roles! The fish was incredibly fresh as well. I would come back here if I'm ever in town again :)

I came here because Masa (my usual fave) was closed on Monday. Lucky for me, Anaba was open and it was fantastic. The restaurant is in a bourgie strip mall overlooking the water. We ordered 5 rolls and the Jasmine flower tea (which comes in a Teavana-looking tumbler). All were terrific, but if I had to rank them in order of preference, it would look like this: 1- Hawaiian (baked) 2- Dynamite 3- Golden Tiger 4- Awesome 5- Mega Philly I live 45 minutes away, but I'll be back!

I've lived in china all my life and have had sushi made by the pros i moved here this july and i got to say the sushi here is actually better than the stuff i get in china and japan, it feels like the sushi melts in your mouth, i just have to warn you about one thing: they already add wasabi to some dishes so don't put to much extra wasabi. The service is awesome they are very nice you feel very welcome and well what else is there to say i would give them 10 stars if i could.

I was in the area and decided to go again, and I was not disappointed! Not only are the prices very good, the freshness and flavors are top notch! You can compare this restaurant to the high end sushi establishments in LA! Be prepared to wait, but it is definitely worth it!!!

After years of swearing by Sumo as my favorite sushi in Oxnard, Anaba has surpassed Sumo with flying colors. My family has a beach house right on Mandalay Beach, so whenever we are in town we go to our favorite places, usually varying anywhere from the fish market at the docks to Toppers. What we like about Anaba is how close it is to our place, the prices, and how friendly and attentive the staff is. My grandparents come here frequently and have never had a bad experience, and the few times I have gone have been pleasurable. I have tried a few of their rolls, my favorite being the Channel Islands Roll, and also love their teriyaki salmon. The only caveat to this place is how busy it can be. I've had to wait at least ten minutes every time i've been, but if you're willing to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful beach weather, the wait goes by quickly. I can already tell that this will become our staple restaurant in town!

I have been here a TON of times for almost 6 years now (since about '09) and I can honestly say I love it so much! I'm pretty local (about 30-40 min. away in Oak View) and I keep finding myself coming back here. It's getting to a point where I'm almost a regular. The decor is immaculate, the fish and 'regular' dishes are amazing and fresh, and the service is awesome. I also give bonus points for their location and ambiance - a beautiful and chic Oxnard Harbor as a back-drop for a sushi restaurant, great food and sushi/sashimi AND good sense of style? YES. PLEASE! I'm more than happy to give my business to you, dear Anaba! I've had a lot of things from here since my mother and I started eating here way back when but what really stands out for me are: -salmon -octopus -yellowtail -Bugs-Life roll -salad w/ citrus house dressing -Dynamite roll -Green Tea Ice Cream w/ tempura banana -Spicy Tuna roll -albacore -Awesome roll -eel Those are my top favorite dishes and sushi/sashimi items here. I want to try a LOT more from here because it's that good! But, those items keep calling me back straight here. YUM!!! I want some now. This place always fills me up when I stop by but, not too much. And, it's so fun every time to get the Anaba's chef boat and watch the server "dock it". Haha. It's also a very nice bamboo one, too! Anyways, here's to many more visits! Definitely the only sushi bar around Ventura County that I would even consider AMAZING! :))

Came here for dinner with my girls on a Saturday night. No need for reservations or anything like that. Cute little spot by the water. Food was pretty good as well. We ordered a bunch of different sushi items: Heart Attack - it was REALLY good and not super spicy at all, which was nice and doesn't have a heavy batter to it. Golden Tiger Roll - I am not a huge tempura fan in general but this was pretty tasty. Garlic Tuna Roll - Didn't have as much of a sear as I would like to see on the Tuna but still tasty. We ordered a few other rolls that i can't recall, but everything was fresh and tasty. There was one roll with soy paper that was exceptionally good!

My son and his wife came up for a visit and we boated over and walked up to Anaba - my first time here. OMG we had a bit of everything between the 4 of us and everything was amazing! There are very few restaurants that you can get to in the harbor by boat - wait very few really good ones! We will be back!

I had searched out places, and reached out to another (locally experienced and very astute) yelper, but time got away so I defaulted to Anaba. Having just spent 8 months in Japan (Okinwa) , my taste can probably be called "swayed" by eating local and extremely fresh. I tend to default to 4 stars for most places, 5 stars for many. 1 star would indicate a problem. 3 stars for this place is a struggle. Service, on a Wednesday, was subpar. Sushi Chef was lacking in that normal Sushi Chef style: the ability to catch your eye when you're ready to order the next piece. I had to literally yell at one point to catch his attention. Quality was all over. Fish is ~ many things to many people. And texture, as well, is many things to many people. However, I believe the octopus was not of the best quality, tasting like it had been brined in sink water. The tuna was great. The rice seemed to change quality through the meal. I also found the sushi bar to be..shaky, as if hobbled together. This has little bearing on taste, but it simply irked me. Price is on average with what should be expected, though through reading reviews of other places, it might be a bit high. Yelp speaks highly of some other places, they'll be on my radar from now on. Over all, it wasn't bad, per se, just very disappointing for what it could and should be.

Had an exceptional service and experience in this place;-)). Received service directly from the owner because of a misunderstanding from my service. The owner himself came and apologized to me comped me my beer which i refused only once haha then said OK.. It was my first time here, I'm from San Fernando valley and my favorite and only spot is BISTRO KA, in Canoga park, located it Topanga mall. I'm a business owner myself and I definitely appreciate the owner coming to me and apologizing.. . The sushi chef was definitely awesome I'm bad with names or else I would put it on here. We ended up having shots together chef and owner. like I said again phenomenal experience will definitely be back. DELICIOUS FOOD!! :-))))

I love love love this place! My only problem with Anaba is that I always end up ordering way more than I can eat. I can't help it when the quality is always top notch and everything is always amazing. Go there for your birthday, you won't regret it.

Anaba?!?....more like A NO NO.....we came here on a Sunday looking for a great sushi place with a great view of the harbor. This place popped up on Yelp with awesome reviews...how could we go wrong?! We were greeted promptly and seated. We were seated by the window and wow a great view. Unfortunately there were multiple little fruit flies buzzing around. A waiter apologized and stated they keep the place very clean. Unfortunately it is fruit fly season. Ummm OK? So there is absolutely nothing that can be done but to allow these pests to fly around and land in our food. GROSS! Our waitress took our order, brought our drinks and that's the last time we seen her. No checking up on us. No drink refills. I got lucky to get a refill on my drink because another waiter came around to tell us we can't pay quite yet because the cashier is counting money at this time. Well okay. We were finally able to pay our bill and it took about another 10 minutes to get our change back. I also witnessed one of the waitresses being very confrontational with a customer. Rolling her eyes and being totally just plain rude to him. A lot of the waiters and waitresses just kind of stood around rather than circulate through the restaurant to check on customers. Sushi was good but customer service needs ALOT of work. So does the insect problem. Won't be back anytime soon.

Best sushi in Ventura County by far! The yellowtail belly comes with real wasabi which is light years away from the green horseradish paste most places use. Would be nicer though without the TV's playing sports...music goes better with sushi.

Today was my first time at Anaba. I went there for take-out. I got my food about 30 mins later, which was a reasonable time since it was super packed for Mother's day. I ordered the Green Mussels, Bug's Life roll (basically a caterpillar roll) & the Salmon Tempura Roll. Everything tasted great. I stuck to foods I usually order at other sushi restaurants, but next time I will try something different. Service was good. The hostess was very pleasant. My only downfall for this place is the very small waiting area (1 bench). Since it was packed today, and the waiting area was full, alot of us had to wait outside on the tables--- in the cold.

  • Robert N.

Came here based on 4.5 star avg. Definitely I've up to that rating and more. Solid 5 star all the way around! Even though had to wait close to 30 mins to get a table. But it says something about the place when it's standing room only. Ordered salmon tempura roll and macadamia roll. Both were really well prepared and tasted great. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive given how busy it was. Very clean inside and we are definitely coming back to try more items. Great job..our new favorite out by the coast.

  • Nicole M.

If you like rolls, this is the place to go for sushi in Oxnard. Lots of great rolls - Bug's Life, macadamia nut roll,,. But be forewarned: They tell you the wait's "10 minutes" no matter how many people are waiting. It's like that old Seinfeld episode.

I felt compelled to write a review because the food here blew me away. For me, it started out as a mission to get ramen. For my friend, it was a mission for sushi. Now, I didn't want to go to anaba because they do not have ramen but my friend and I came to a compromise when I looked at the online menu and they had udon soup. I am vegetarian, so I am not too wild about sushi, you can't really go wrong with veggie rolls, they're all the same. This place definitely turned my opinion on that thought. Anaba really went right with the rolls. I ordered vegetable gyoza as my appetizer, I was put off that it was green but upon first bite, my eyes began to water. The gyoza gods descended down from heaven's kitchen and into my mouth. So flavorful and delicious. Next was my vegetable tempura roll. Perfect crisp, so filling. I liked that it was rolled up tight so when I took a bite it didn't fall everywhere and I didn't look like a dumb ass n00b as usual. By this point I was full but I was waiting on my vegetable udon soup. I was expecting some small personal soup.... no this soup was enormous! I had to ask for a second bowl so my friend could help me eat it... we still didn't finish it. It was a little too sweet at first but we just threw on some sriracha and boom! FLAMES. The broth was so good, if I could just have a thermos of that broth and sriracha every morning, every day would be a good one. I ate until I hated myself... and isn't that the only way to eat food? The pricing is reasonable but your check can go from $10 to $450 in like three seconds because you want to try everything! But don't let the price scare you, treat yo self... it's worth it! My only ...slightly....tiny....insignificant con is that the service is not up to par with the standard of food. It was a little awkward service, like it was my hostess' first day or something. I think she had just come out of a cave for the first time in 15 years, she looked aloof and dumbfounded. It made me feel semi-uncomfortable. The server was not terribly fast and a little inattentive but honestly, with food so good, I would have not cared if they ignored me for an hour. Definitely not enough to give them less than 5 stars, I'm just annoying and like to point everything out. So my consensus after this novel, if you enjoy food, fun, happiness and respect yourself as a person, TRY ANABA. If you read this and don't instantly run out of your house to anaba, I will be extremely disappointed. Why're you still reading this? GO TRY ANABA!! Run. Run!!

One of the best sushi places I've been to. The food is great and always taste fresh. The staff is really friendly. They offer military discount which could really help, because they are a little pricey. If they seat you toward the back of the restaurant don't fret because you get a beautiful view of the harbor from there. It can get crowded at night and on the weekends, but if you don't mind the wait the food is well worth it.

I went here after golfing with a buddy. I ordered their sushi combo which came with all different kinds of sushi. All the sushi was fresh and oh man was it amazing. When I think sushi I think of eating the clean, fresh fish served nigiri style. I'm not one to order rolls, and places that are known for their rolls usually use a lot of sauce to make up for not having the freshest fish....however, that is NOT the case with Anaba. The sashimi and nigiri are very fresh, with a buttery texture and good size portions. They have the usual fish selection so don't expect to get the rare seasonal fish that authentic sushi places have. The rolls are excellent, and not over powered with sauce. I went with some people that don't eat sushi and they were even surprised that they actual liked the rolls. What to get: Their hamachi and walu nigiri are excellent Golden Tiger Roll - anyone would like this roll even non sushi lovers Garlic Tuna Roll - clean, fresh, love the garlic ponzu sauce Yellowtail Delight - another clean and flavorful roll

Def a solid sushi place. Rolls were delicious. We got 4 all together and all were pretty delicious. If you care about the location that is a plus too since it is right on the harbor. We will be coming back to this one.

Seriously one of the best sushi places I've ever been too!! The person sitting next to me is from Ventura, and said this is the best sushi place in Ventura County. I order the baked mussels for an appetizer, and they were very good. I would suggest sharing with someone because you get 8 of them. The Rock'n roll and Dynamite sushi rolls....amazing!!!

Food was amazing and service is great. One of the best sushi restaurant I've been too in Ventura County. Walked in and place looks good, they have plenty of space. Decor, view of the water and ambience was great. Plenty of selection in the menu including sake and they serve a few korean dish and soju also.

This has to be my favorite sushi restaurant in Ventura County hands down! And I have tried a whole lot of sushi in Ventura County, second best would probably be Sushi Planet. Nothing really ever goes wrong whenever I come here. Everything is always perfect and on point. This is probably my first review on the place. The food is a little bit pricey, but amazing! It's really true, you get what you pay for, it's always the quality over the quantity. I always get their Anaba roll and it never fails, I myself am not a fan of rice, so this was a no rice roll, with different types of raw fish wrapped in cucumber. Definitely a refreshing roll! The Hamachi Yellowtail is also delicious, it's pretty much a grilled yellowtail collarbone, usually they only have a few a day, so if you get lucky it's your lucky day! It's listed under appetizer, but could be an entree! Another favorite is their tempura green tea ice cream, creamy and delicious! The service is great here! Always attentive and friendly. My only concern would be to not come when they're about to close because then the waiters/waitresses get a little frantic and they forget things sometimes. The restaurant itself is beautiful, small and clean! Right on the harbor, if you get lucky you could sit in the back right next to the window which is an excellent view of the harbor during the day. At night you won't really see as much, but still a pretty view

What a fantastic experience! We sat at the sushi bar. Locals were friendly and quick to make suggestions. The sushi chef was friendly and accommodating. We had the: Spicy edamame - it was okay, but I wouldn't do it again. Gyoza - was a little greasy. The filling was tasty. Crunchy onion albacore - onion strings and raw fish, really??? What a delicious combo! I could live on that. The nice big pieces of albacore were fresh and flavorful. Anaba roll made spicy - this riceless roll with cucumber wrap has so much going on with the filling. It was delicious. There is plenty of elbow room at sushi bar, so you never felt crowded or rushed. The birthday celebrations are a nice break in the atmosphere.

Sushi was good but man was the service terrible. They seemed to have tons of staff yet terribly understaffed for prime time Valentine's Day. Maybe the staff were poorly trained or maybe their system is terrible. After our name got exed off the wait list and had to go up to double check, we waited over 10 minutes for someone to notice us, and another 30 for our sushi. Super disappointing - but can't complain about the sushi. (During the course of our visit, the service was so bad that I downgraded this review to two stars. Never experienced such terrible service.)

Best place for sushi in Ventura County ever. My husband and I wish we could get out here more often. The baked mussels are divine, all items are fresh and have a gourmet twist to them. This place was amazing!!! We went with a group of 9 for a birthday party and they had no problem taking us on short notice. We ordered about 17 different rolls, and I couldn't say a single bad thing about any of them. Fish is so fresh and so tasty. For birthdays they dim the lights and turn on laser lights and music when they bring out a dessert with a candle. I would recommend this place to anyone who is anywhere near here and wants great sushi.

I recent ate at Anaba with my girlfriend and her parents. This is easily the best sushi I have had in the Ventura/Oxnard area, and for the price its a no brainer. The wait for a table can be a little long at peak times, but it is really tasty and I will be going back next time I am in the area.

Good but not great. Food is better than good but average for the level and cost. Decor is cute but that's it. The operations of the restaurant is lacking. The layout of the location is terrible. There are so many tables stuffed into the location, because it's popular, that there is little room to move around for guests or servers. There is 1 bench to sit at if waiting, so you have to wait outside. Terrible plan when it's bad weather outside. The pick up order is in the back of the location so it's difficult to do take out. You don't want to stand back there and wait for your order, but they never tell you when it done. So you wait up front or outside till your tired of waiting then ask. The servers are always using the host POS so new guests have to wait till their done for the host to help you. Employees work hard when they don't have to. They are so unorganized. Be careful on take out. If you are missing anything they try and talk you into making it up "next time", but they don't. Make sure you get a refund. They say they can't but they can. Glad it doesn't happen often. I would recommend a larger location and some restaurant management because good food only goes so far for the total experience.

Sushi snob here in the first order.. Sashimi is my victim, and it must die.. lots of it. Not here, not so much... The rolls are SO DAMN GOOD! I have to limit myself to just three or four. Its brutal. I have sampled about 20 so far, and have yet to find one that wasn't stellar, tight and well built! There are 5 sushi joints in my town, and I find myself trekking up the 101 for 20 min to eat here time and time again. Well worth the drive and well priced, bring your appetite, and leave your amex black at home, you wont need it.

October1st for lunch What a beautiful place! You can sit at a table that has a nice view of the water. I sat at the sushi bar. I started out with albacore and then had a couple of hand rolls. Ended with unagi sushi....soooo good. Everyone was so nice who worked there! I will definitely be back :-)

Big Rolls, Fresh, and yummy. This is the best sushi I've had in Ventura County. Kudos to Yelp since I found Anaba here. I will be going back often.

Had OK food for 3-4 times, but last night I ordered the Seared Garlic Tuna Roll- which was a mistake. ( and cost $10.50) Seared Garlic should be just that, garlic seared in butter/oil and drizzled over your roll. This was NOT. The chef used old seared tuna, some spicy tuna and made a roll out of it. He then sprinkled what looked like dry corn flakes on top. Turns out it was burnt old garlic flakes! I explained that was not a seared garlic roll and he disagreed. I did not eat it and set it aside as I had lost my sushi craving. I ended up going next door to Jersey Mike's for a # 13!

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Anaba's. We had a fairly large party of 8 , but an hour to be seated is unacceptable. When we finally did sit down I was ready to have drink, we had to wait an additional 15 mins, and I had to ask the hostess personally if we could order some beverages. Food came out fast which I was pleased with, but than when we brought it to our waiters attention that they forgot a dish, they looked at us as we were lying, they even started counting the plates. Food was good, service very upsetting. Never again.

My experience at Anaba 2nd time around: I needed sushi dinner for three adults at 9:30pm, which didn't give me many options as to where to go. I was hesitant for Anaba because of my first experience, but this time around it wasn't bad at all. Yes I have still had better in more Metropolitan cities, but they had a few speciality rolls that were quite tasty and the price was very affordable! For about $50, I got a Sushi Dinner Combo, 3 Speciality Rolls, and an order of California Rolls.

They have delicious food, but the wait staff is VERY slow and they cannot take more than 3 credit cards per party, even if you inform them ahead of time they will say that is fine. If the service was better I would give this place a 5 star. The food is great...esp. if you are picky on the seafood you eat.

Anaba is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Oxnard. You're ALWAYS welcomed with a kind smile and a greeting. always a plus plus! Never have I walked in and I felt unwelcomed or ignored. The restaurant is ALWAYS clean and tidy. - I first became aware of this restaurant even before it opened its doors to the public, I personally know the owner because I opened his business account at Sam's club. Ever since then he always acknowledges me and always asks how I'm doing even though I'm not working at sams. waitresses and servers are always nice and helpful. I highly reccomend the green mussles as an appetizer, sometimes I even order it as my meal. ABSOULTELY LOVE it. CANNOT go wrong. Also the spicy edamame, they make this appetizer TO THE T, most surrounding restaurants make it too salty or too watery. Anaba definitely has the best. I always try different rolls and i'm never disappointed.

Meaty sashimi. Lobster roll ... yum. A huge menu including many non sushi items. Didnt get the yellowtail collar or the bluefin tuna sushi or the bugs life roll, but they all liiked great. Did get the sushi boat though. Bad news, does not come with a shot of captain jacks. Good news? Does come with a delicious assortment of sushi and sashimi! Ahoy matey!

In general, I love sushi and this place is as good as any other I enjoy. I've had their stuff a dozen times now and never been disappointed eating in or picking up. They have a pretty wide variety of sushi rolls, I enjoy their dynamite roll, bug's life roll, tempura california and some of their regular sushi, ahi and shrimp. Never had to wait coming in or picking up either. It is pretty relaxing inside, fairly quiet place most of the time. There are a few tables that can see the harbor a bit in the back of the place which are even more enjoyable if you can grab one.

Decided to give this place a try on New Years Eve, and I was not disappointed! I shared a crunchy onion albacore sashimi, toro sushi, yellowtail belly sushi, salmon lover roll, seared tuna roll (can't remember what it was called, but it was somewhere along those lines), and a tempura green tea ice cream. The albacore sashimi, salmon lover roll, and seared tuna roll were blessed with extremely fresh fish; however, out of these three, I can only really rave about the sashimi and the seared tuna roll. To me, the salmon lover roll lacked flavor. I enjoyed the toro and yellowtail belly sushi as well, but did not find it to be as fresh as the others. They were both still very delicious! It just probably was not fresh on the night I went. As for the tempura green tea ice cream, you really can't go wrong with that one. You'd have to try to mess that one up. Quickly summing up the rest of the experience, Anaba presented a very friendly staff, nice ambiance, and a clean atmosphere. Give this place a shot! I will definitely be back :)

Five of went here after reading the reviews. Definitely worth the drive from Westlake. Service was efficient. The rolls were amazing. The seaweed salad was delicious. They serve the sake in vessels to keep it cold or hot. The tempura appetizers are so lite and not greasy. One person ordered the beef teriyaki dinner and the amount of food served was surprising. This was not served in a traditional "box" presentation. They brought the tempura out first with the salad and soup. Then the rice and meat. The meat covered the plate. Favorite roll was the 911. Definitely going back.

Hands down- one of the BEST sushi places in Ventura county!! So fresh- and they have an amazing selection. The place is very well decorated and has plenty of 'bar' seating! Perfect for a sushi night out with friends!

I really like this place. Not the most traditional of sushi restaurants, but an amazing selection and creativity. If you are a sushi novice or just don't like raw fish try this place. They have a ton of very creative rolls! This is not to say there sushi is not fresh or delicious, because it is. My personal favorite sashimi is yellow tail belly and it is great here. 1 important aspect for me when it comes to sushi is the temperature the fish is kept in, and they keep it plenty cold here. what else? great spot, great atmosphere, very large menu, friendly staff. If I had to look for a problem it would be that it can fill up pretty fast, but that does not stop them from providing fast friendly service. All at a good price too, as far as sushi places go. favorites: yellow tail belly sashimi Anaba house salad - they may have changed the name Dragon roll Rainbow roll salmon lovers roll - I don't usually like much salmon when I eat sushi, but you have to try this roll!!!

What wow factor? I was none too impressed. That is a shame, as I wanted to be. There is no wow factor here. The prices are expensive. $80 for two. This place is a shake down for what it is. 4 rolls. 2 sashimi. 2 with rice. Two glasses of a "premium" red wine, that our server could not name when prompted, which turned out to be Rodney Strong, supposedly, but if it is not poured at your table, how do you really know what you are drinking? Another Korean Japanese sushi bar? I suspect this is yet another Korean owned place doing Japanese. Sushi is lucrative business. This place lacks real Japanese authenticity in food, service and decor. I have been to Tokyo twice, and Anaba is just average. There was no complimentary miso soup or green tea. They are both inexpensive. What gives? The tea arrived with a green tea bag in a western cup with a saucer over it. I much prefer a tea pot and a short porcelain Japanese cup and loose leaf tea. Miso soup. It is not pricey--even with a few tofu cubes and a little piece of seaweed. When does a compliment go too far? The server was not discreet enough. She complimented an article of clothing I was wearing, a Patagonia down jacket, but did not leave it at that and was really adamant about knowing where exactly I bought it. She was so busy trying to get the info on where to get my jacket that she forgot I ordered green tea, but did manage to take the address down that I offered her from an iPad. Her behavior was out of place for me. Japanese don't fawn over stranger's clothing articles. It was awkward. Japan has a large middle class. They travel far and wide. I think of all the well heeled Japanese tourist I have seen and they are usually so brand aware, shy or proud that they need not trifle you for details of your wardrobe because they already know what is good and how to find it. She nearly said, "Pay up! It is employee meal time!" As the clock drew nearer to closing time the server came to our table and said something to the effect of we need to close out your tab and have our employee meal. I thought that was too much information and not a tactful close or prompting to pay. Service and attention to detail is missing! Water was not served to both my date and I. She ordered wine, but water should have arrived for us both. Water is served in plastic cups--that is nuts for the prices the restaurant charges. My date resorted to asking for a second glass of wine from a Mexican bus boy because our server was not entirely attentive. It is not as though the place was busy or understaffed, or because we were difficult. When the second wine glass arrived, the first was not taken from the table. Do not expect red wine glasses for "premium" red wines either. I don't recall our server prompting us to try a dessert. That is non-sense. Japanese, generally, have a graceful style of service; whereas, Korean service conversely, as evidenced here, is not as attentive to getting the details right and lacking in the expected better sushi establishment etiquette. Look elsewhere. If this is Oxnard's #1, then hold out for Nobu in Malibu, or Little Tokyo in downtown L.A., so you have a real point of reference to draw comparisons and inform your opinion! The food was o.k. I remember a sashimi piece that was not entirely fresh, but turned a darker color and the flesh hardened a bit. They pad too many rolls with imitation crab as filler. The ginger was fresh. The wasabi was o.k. I did not see low sodium soy sauce on the tables. My girlfriend called me craving sushi, but the signature Anaba roll among the three others was not really remarkable. Forget the decor! The decor is nothing special. It needs work. They have these tacky fake flowers running the length of the wall. There are also these ornamental silver vines that look better left to the season department of Walmart running parallel to the flowers on the wall. The wall ornaments kept getting tangled in the hair of my date who sat beside them. The wall art could have been better chosen and presented. The place needs an interior decorator. Unless your are part of the idle rich, pass on this place and reward a better contender for sushi! This may be Oxnard's #1 reviewed sushi bar, but it leaves much more to be desired.

My husband and I have been coming to Anaba's for years. We feel like family every time we go there. Every dish is delicious -- Salmon Lover's Roll is my husband's favorite and I have too many favorites to name. Service is fabulous, sushi chefs are friendly and very attentive. We highly, highly recommend this restaurant.

Quality japanese food with an excellent view. me and my girl frequent this joint on a weekly basis. It is definitely good eats. Recommendations: 1. Anaba Roll: The anaba roll is refreshing, tasty, and fulfilling. Its a roll that has no rice or seaweed paper, but rather it has various types of fish in it thats wrapped in a thin layer of cucumber. The snap of the cucumber along side chunks of tuna and yellowfish with avocado are a good blend of flavors and texture. Extremely scrumptious. 2. Oysters on a half shell: Also a refreshing and delicious dish. I believe they come in 4 oysters. The oysters are fresh and have a subtle soysauce/srichee mixture on it which makes it very appealing to the tastebuds. 3. Asparagus in a Kimono: This appetizer dish is grub. Tip of life: Bacon makes everything that much better. With that said, this dish is an asparagus wrapped in bacon. Sounds simply enough, but the flavors are all there. The asparagus is cooked just right with a slight crunch. Add the bacon, and your visiting flavortown. 4. Seafood Udon: This dish or rather hot pot is packed with wholesome goodness. They don't skimp on the seafood that they throw in it. Its perfectly proportioned with shrimp, scallops, white fish, and tuna. It is also has a good blend of cabbage and mushrooms. Very flavorful and filling. 5. Beef short ribs: Normally, when you go to a sushi joint, you don't think necessarily of ordering meat, however, the short ribs at Anaba are very good eats. My girl and I have been accustomed to order a short rib dish al a carte. The meat is very tender and seasoned well. The short ribs sit upon a bed of steamed cabbage and mushrooms. Grub. 6. View: Anaba is located at the Seabridge Market place that overlooks the newly built Oxnard Harbor Area. Sit at the tables that are positioned to view the harbor. Come at sunset, and its money. The view of the harbor is quite spectacular, especially it being in Oxnard. This area in Oxnard does not seem at all like it belongs in Oxnard. I'm a born and raised Oxnardian, so i know. Overall good eats. The sushi, rolls, and food all taste fresh and are presented very beautifully.

Favorite sushi place in Oxnard. Try the garlic edamame, it's soooo good. A big variety, and their menu has photos of all their food. It all depends on what you like, but you can't go wrong if you know your flavor preferences.

I don't write reviews often, but I eat sushi a lot! We stumbled on this place while visiting Santa Barbara and Ventura on vacation. First look made me hesitate as the place looked very trendy and all of the staff had the secret service earphones on. We did not have reservations but arrived early enough that we had our choice of seating on a Monday night. We chose to sit at the sushi bar. We were promptly greeted and offered drinks while we looked at our menu. We decided on the ala-carte option. 7 pieces Salmon Sashimi--awesome, buttery, beautiful, considering flying back for the salmon! 7 pieces Tuna Sashimi--okay, have had better and have worse. Spicy Tuna Roll--approximately 3x the size of the same price roll in comparison to most sushi joints in Philadelphia. Totally awesome, yet almost overwhelming! Octopus sushi- excellent, should have ordered more Uni sushi (Sea Urchin)-- First time ever eating. Looks like a yellow tongue but melts in your mouth..why haven't I ordered this before! Toro--aka fatty tuna belly--excellent choice if you feel like splurging. It puts the regular tuna to shame Fresh Oysters--spicy yet tasty. Different from the classic lemon and cocktail sauce. Spider Roll--once again, very large portions in comparison to what I'm used to! Excellent sauce as well. I believe we also got miso soup, salad and warm sake and the green tea ice cream for dessert. If I didn't live so far away I would totally go back. Did I mention the girl next to us had been there 3 times in 3 days? Also, I would have to admit, the prices weren't too bad either!

Anaba is so close to my house, it's almost sinful. And if it were any less expensive, my wallet would be in serious trouble. At this point I've been there probably 4 times or so, and the service is always friendly and very quick and efficient--maybe almost too much so if you're dining with friends. Each time I've had their Yellowtail belly sushi, it has been outstanding. Same goes for their Japanese Scallop sushi when they have it. Last night was the first time I tried their Mackrel, an it was really quite bad, but that's the only miss I've had amongst their sushi. Anaba also has a robust list of rolls, most of which my wife and I have enjoyed. The one with the crispy garlic and spicy tuna stands out amongst all that we've had. Overall, I'll give Anaba 3.5 stars, as my "Best of Ventura/Oxnard" vote would go to Hanami just down the street, which is hands-down the best in the area. But Anaba is still well worth a visit, and comes in slightly less expensive than a trip to Hanami.

Mediocre and a lil overpriced sushi for amount served. My husband and I looove sashimi and there wasn't very much given. We only went once. The service was bad, staff was pushy, and it was so loud. The good partvwas they accept coupons from restaurant.com , so it helped the hefty bill. I don't plan on going back, even with the discount. Genmai down the street is waaay better.

My favorite place to go for lunch: Great view, awesome items to choose from made with fresh ingredients. I wish I still lived in Oxnard because I would find any excuse possible to go here at least weekly. Now I'm limited to the weekends I visit my family which are few and far between.

Great sushi, I always have a great time when I come here. I used to live right around the corner, then moved to Camarillo but still come back here for sushi! The owner Min is very attentive, which cannot always be said about the wait staff. That is the only reason I don't give it 5 stars - often they don't come by for drink orders for 15 minutes, and if you want a refill, it's waiting time again. Also, I agree with a previous reviewer about the paper napkins - please switch to cloth, or at least better quality paper. Otherwise it's a great place, and I love their birthday music! Anaba is always very busy and you have to come early to get a seat at the bar. Although the sushi chefs change quite a bit, my favorite at the moment is Sam. He is always smiling, very attentive, and he pays close attention to special orders.

It's a stand up place with quality and fresh ingredients. My wife and I will go there for the boat, usually after we've been out all day or working around the house to the point where typical hunger pangs are hours past. The boat is a legit display boat, topped with all the typical samplings the place has to offer, as well as one roll that you the diner select. The only roll I haven't enjoyed was our most recent which was some scallop concoction that decided to fall apart upon snagging it with the chopsticks, but besides that the food is good, the beers are tall, and the service is generally pretty fast.

Went here with friends the other night, and I can only yelp in regards to sushi & atmosphere; I didn't get any of the entrees. Next time. The best unagi I have ever had, and I've had lots of unagi. Tuna wasn't that great, sad because that's usually my favorite. I ordered Kirin which is probably one of the best beers you will have. No wonder they call it Kirin ICHIBAN. ;) They gave me a glass with my ice cold bottle to pour it out, classy. I LOVE THE INTERIOR DESIGN. I couldn't stop staring at the wall with the beautiful cherry blossoms on it, gorgeous. The happy birthday song was so intense! They dimmed the lights at first and it was very confusing and then the party boy music (you know, like in jackass) comes on, some of the staff come and bring dessert and start dancing, and I was jealous that it wasn't my birthday! It got old after 1 min and a half into the song, but I'd definitely bring a friend here for their bday and get them ambushed. update: my new fave here is the dynamite roll. priced around 10 bucks but comes with large pieces of scallops. definitely on point.

A very new looking and modern sushi bar. A great location over looking the water. A vast array of specialty rolls on the menu. Fresh fish at reasonable prices. The staff was friendly and cared about your dining experience. The albacore lover roll was big and covered with caramelized onions, very different but also very good. Worth a try--I will be back.

Came here on Friday night with my lovely girlfriends. Great atmosphere and decor. The walls had cherry blossoms painted on the wall very cute. I wasnt sure if there was outdoor seating but out side you can see the harbor. Would serve as a nice date place. Extensive menu. My friends and I were getting anxiety just by the sheer number of specialty rolls they have. I would say its a BIT overpriced. Maybe I'm just used to my cheap and delicious hole in the walls. Ordered a glass of their plum wine and the Awesome Roll. The roll was tempura fried with salmon and cream cheese inside, not sure what else was in it. I love my cream cheese, so that's all that mattered to me. Did the roll live up to its name? Eh... more like pretty good roll. I would come back though... especially on my BIRTHDAY!! So we were rapping up our meal then the lights suddenly dimmed... loud japanese techo music started bumping, and the servers came out with a plate of something with a candle.... it only meant ONE thing.. someone's birthday! The lights began strobbing i guess... and the music was thumping for a good like 3 minutes. Seriously... it was a mini-rave in there. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to enjoy it. So if you want some recognition on your birthday... come here!

ordered two rolls and an appetizer. the eel sauce wasn't heavy and the appetizer came out quickly. i ordered the awesome roll and i believe the crunchy tiger hidden dragon. hahah. not too sure but it was a clever name. both were done amazingly and tasted spectacular. my server was sulynn and she was very polite, happy, and more than willing to follow through with my requests and i appreciated it. i've been here a few other times and i tend to feel rushed by the other servers but it might be because they're busy or trying to get orders out. either way, a very good sushi spot in an even better location.

Best sushi around, and unfortunately, everyone is realizing it! Can get very crowded. Service suffers. Fish is usually fresh, but lately I've noticed poorer quality in freshness. I have gone from going there once a week to once a month. Started going there the 4th day they opened. Go there for your birthday.

This was the third time I have eaten at this place and previously had a good experience. We had a party of seven sat at the bar, a big mistake.! they had one sushi chef waiting on all seven of us. It took for ever to get our order. I ordered the blue fin sashimi which was not fresh at all!! The guy forgot our order. We were so frustrated we just left. I would go back again not with seven people. I probably would just stick with the rolls.

After reading this on yelp, I decided to try it out. I had Tiger Crunch Roll, it was a roll with some word Tiger in the name. The roll was huge. The fish tasted ok, not really fresh. Since it was a roll, I expected it has no salt in it, but I was wrong, it tasted salty to me. I did not even had to dip it in soy sauce. The service was good, the waitress was nice, she was checking on us often to see if we need anything else. I went there with a friend, my friend had a dinner plate, something with salmon. She said her food was very good. We went there on Tuesday around 5:00pm, so the place was not crowded. I am not sure if I would go back. I am going to wait for a while and see what others recommend.

I had a really fun evening here with some girlfriends. Definitely some of the best sushi I've ever had. We were seated right away and in the middle of the week this placed was packed. We ordered a bunch of things to share- the garlic tuna roll, the volcano roll, the heart attack, the salmon lover roll and some salads. Everything was amazing. I didn't care for the garlic on top of the garlic tuna roll but I just took it off before eating a piece. The volcano, the heart attack and the garlic tuna all had some heat to them and I'm usually a wuss when it comes to spice but it complimented the flavors nicely. The salads have big slices of avocado in them and the dressing is delicious. Definitely worth a try. My friend ordered the green tea ice cream and really loved it. It comes with two cookies on top and chocolate sauce. Yum! Occasionally the lights will go out and the music will turn into the Happy Birthday song with twinkling lights everywhere. I think it's original and cute how they do birthdays here. My friends and I clapped for the people who were celebrating their birthdays. Also if possible try and ask for a window table. The view at night and I'm sure during the day is really pretty.

LOVE this place! My husband and I have been there at least 5-6 times and everytime the food is excellent and the service is wonderful! We really enjoy the sushi! We try a different special everytime we go there and have yet to try something we didnt absolutely love! The ice cream is great there too. Uri is the absolute best. She remembers my daughters favorite food and she anticipates the service that we need. The "awesome" and "dynamite" rolls are the best so far!

I wanted to not like this place due to my recent war with Sushi. See my Harbor Sushi review: yelp.com/biz/harbor-sush… But my wife wanted something light and My brother suggested Anaba. I was expecting to find the place empty due to Sushi Hanada, and Hanami, not to mention Sushi Ichiban, and the CI harbor sushi place(cannot remember the name) all within 2 miles of Anaba. But alas Anaba was packed to the gills. I must say that our service was pretty bad. We sat at a table with a stack of Menu's on it. We were waiting for a server to come over and hand us one, but after 10 minutes we just grabbed one ourselves. Then after 10 more minutes the manager came by and took our order. No one ever came by to check on our drinks, or offer me another Kirin. We were pretty much ignored, and we were treated to at least 3 different servers, one took the order, one brought our food, one brought my rice late, and one brought the bill when I flagged him down. On the positive side, the Ahi Tuna was great, and My wife's Udon Noodle Vegetable soup was delicious. I'll give it another shot one day. I think my war with sushi may be ready to enter the cold war phase...maybe.

Since 3 stars= A-ok, thats how I feel. Anaba has a good selection of sushi, but coming from Sacrament, Ca where there are several sushi places that are better, I cant give it any better then 3 stars. The portition size of fish isnt as good as I thought it would be, and the sauce they put on their rolls arent the best flavore i've had.

I was happy to discover this place by accident tonight. It's tucked away by Von's on Victoria and the interior is spacious, authentic, modern Japanese style but not too much so that it kept it's traditional style too. The staff are friendly and service was good. We had Asahi beer and Rainbow rolls to start. My husband never ate sushi with me and even he liked it! I had a Chirashi sushi dinner and my husband got Teriyaki beef dinner plate. Both of us loved our plate and ate it up! It was a lot of food for two of us so keep that in mind. I'm very critical of Japanese food because I grew up in Japan...and I give this place my stamp of approval. It's rare to find the "real" Japanese food. I think the majority of the staff are Korean but they did a real good job creating a true, authentic Japanese sushi restaurant/izakaya food. I would love to go back and sit at the counter for sushi the next time.

I don't live very close to this Anaba, so I don't visit here as often as I would like, but have gone here maybe 10 times in the past couple of years. For the appetizer, always get the seared Albacore (with the onions). This is delish! I like to try different rolls and there was only one that was so-so, not because it wasn't fresh, but just because it wasn't my taste. Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll, Salmon Lover's Roll, Philadelphia Roll and others I can't remember -- all great! Fresh, fresh, fresh. One of the best places to go. Overlooks the water out the back of the restaurant. It seems someone is always celebrating their birthday here (kinda crazy, in a good way, with upbeat music, lights turned down, flashing lights, etc.). Highly recommend.

Love this place. I have tried the Anaba roll, Mango Salmon roll, Ahi seared Tuna in Ponzu sauce and it has all been great. They have a variety of rolls that are to die for. I can't wait to go again and try some more rolls.

Sushi is awesome. I love getting the sushi combo with chicken. The location and the decor is an A+.

Great quality everything. The food actually looks like what you see in the menu pictures. My only knock on the place would be that almost all of their sushi offerings have crab.

Sushi is one of my favorite foods and this place delivered the best, freshest, and largest portions of sushi I've ever had.

We took my great aunt and uncle, both of whom are in their 70s and had never eaten sushi before. Everything about this place was five star. The food was top notch. The service went way out of their way to make our experience memorable (they could tell this was a special experience for my aunt and uncle). Finally, the great view really set the right mood. I'll definitely be returning next time I'm in Oxnard.

Good food. GREAT staff. I sat at the bar tonight, brought in by sushi cravings and positive reviews of this place, and was blown away. The sushi was pretty good. We had the Spicy Tempura Tuna Roll, Salmon Lovers Roll, Golden Tiger Roll (at the suggestion of sushi chef Min who was very friendly, efficient, and skilled) and a pitcher of Sapporo for about $50. All those rolls are huge so they fed three of us, no problem. Whoever thinks this sushi is expensive of crazy. By SoCal standards, this sushi is pretty cheap. I'm from Hawaii and am not used to all the creative and crazy rolls that cali has and our sushi chef told us that the cali style is very American whereas Hawaii sushi is more traditional Japanese style but that it's all going to change as Japan is starting to pick up some of the new styles. Pretty cool to hear insight on the future of sushi from an actual insider, especially since he seemed passionate about it. I highly recommend this spot.

Ate here twice between the time I got out of the hospital (December 22nd) and the time I left Cali for Arizona, AGAIN (January 4th)...couldn't have rice, or nori, or sesame seeds...sashimi was the order of both days, and the salmon and fatty tuna were the best pieces of fish, cooked or raw, that I have ever had. Anaba, I will miss you.

Best Sushi by far. Hotel suggestion and we were so happy. The service fast and efficient (even at the tables). I had a Sashimi salad with a selection of mixed fish. I'd swear that they caught the salmon, fillet it, and served it. (it was like butter). Unbelievable menu and dish presentation was beautiful. Local crowd and a fun place for a birthday celebration. We live in the SFV, but we're going back just for the Sushi. FYI......they also have a kids menu.

Anaba is hands down the best sushi joint in Ventura County. I've spent hours talking to the owner, and they always make everyone feel welcome and at home. The star of this restaurant has got to be the Yellowtail belly. The owner flys his Yellowtail in from Japan and I have not had a bad piece of fish there yet. Anaba has quite the assortment of rolls, if you like tempura rolls...go for the Golden Tiger roll, you will not be dissapointed. If you love sashimi, go for the chirashi plate. You will not be dissapointed with Anaba, the only bad thing I have to say is that they need to work on taking away your plates quicker when you are done with them.

This place used to be pretty good, but never up to snuff to the Japanese restraurants in LA. Now the yaki soba is made with ramen noodles and the vegies are mostly cabbage and no identifiable sauce. The tiger roll was passable and the crunchy garlic sashimi which used to be so good is only fair. There is no white meat chicken and the meat is tough. I will never go there again.

Delicious food and great service. My sushi chef Ken picked out my rolls and they were fantastic. He suggested a ahi/salmon shooter and comped me a sliced apple desert. Highly suggest visiting and sitting with Ken.

My friend, Gaby and I went to Anaba a few months ago. I knew there was a new sushi resturant in the Vons shopping center, but I had never been inside of it. I was surprised to discover that it was a lot more spacious than the outside implies. The decor was nice & it was very clean. We were happily greeted by all the of sushi chef & a hostess. We were seated at the bar and were served right away. We ordered a few rolls. I always order Cali roll and so did my friend, I also ordered another roll, probably a specialty roll and the same for my friend. We were stunned at how much sushi we got! The Cali roll was HUGE. Normally you get 6-8, I think we got 10! All I remember was there was plenty of food and it was DELICIOUS! We didn't even have room to finish all the rolls. Good service, great food, no lines, now that is a good deal!

Everything is good and super fresh. The spicy rolls are spicy- they have chili diagrams and they don't lie! i can't handle the spice- but that's my fault! So the special rolls are so fresh i can't believe it... the server service can be improved, the birthday song is way cool! The fried banana and ice cream for dessert is highly recommended by me. Some of their sushi chefs are hot.... and the decor is excellent!!!! Oh and their tempura- you've NEVER had tempura like the one they serve... its WOW!...oh and their sushi rolls are nice and tight, they don't fall apart, and they aren't all full of rice like at other places i've had.
