When you're craving for some home cooked Guamanian food and don't want to cook, you come here!

My father and I were looking for something different and (thank you fellow Yelpers!) found this place. Guamanian food! Now that's different! And delicious! I had the Guahan combo and it was a great introduction to this cuisine. The "red rice" was very good; like a muted Spanish rice. The empanada was average and basically tasted like a chicken taquito. The cucumber salad could have been fantastic, but the cucumber slices were too large in comparison to the other ingredients, so you never get a good mix of ingredients. The spare ribs were very good. Fall-off-the-bone tender and very flavorful; maybe a little heavy on the soy. The chicken kelaguen was the star of the show. It was fantastic; citrus and spice that just tickled my tastebuds. I loved it! We also had an order of lumpia. This dish I am familiar with, though as Pilipino fare. The lumpia here was more like an egg roll than what I'm used to. The filling was good though and the sauce they serve with them is divine!

Fun place to come to with family, very themed, island feel. Food is average, but decent sized portion. Staff was very friendly.

Yelp doesn't steer me wrong again! Incredible food and friendly helpful staff. I went on a Friday night at 7 and the small restaurant was full...but we sat at the bar in front of the TV and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience. The chicken, shrimp and beef were incredible plus the RED rice was perfect. I will be back and this time with a bigger appetite!

It has been a while for me to try a new ethnic cuisine so I was quite excited about trying this place. We got here around 7pm and there was about 30 minutes wait. While we were waiting, there were more people coming in and wanting to dine at this place. So I thought this place must be great for this many customers. When we finally got seated, we were so hungry that we ended up ordering the mega dish (with all three different kind of meats) and two scoops of red rice. We also ordered shrimp ceviche. However, the waiter didn't ask us the spicy level we wanted for the meat while one acquaintance told us that she ordered spicy level 10 with extra chili pepper. So already I was not sure what to think. When the dishes were served, it was a pretty good portion for two people to share. But both of us were quite disappointed that the meat was not spicy at all. When we asked for spicy sauce, we were given the shiracha sauce. Overall dishes were a bit on the sour side, and typically I like sour for my ceviche and dishes. But for some odd reason, I didn't really like the dishes. I still gave this place a 3 stars as I think the food is decent.

Always accommodating when you bring large groups (a call in advance is a HUGE help). I work with someone who grew up in Guam and has compared Guahan with another popular Guamanian restaurant and she's gone so far to say that "this is as authentic as home!" Great vibe in the restaurant too - island music, colorful decor, and 2 flat screens for sports!!!

Delicious. Friendly staff. I've been here twice in the past month. I will be back again for sure. My only (minor) complaint is that the food is veryyy salty. Prepare to have the desire to drink a gallon of water a couple hours after your meal!

Why go all the way to Maui when you can get a little slice of island right here in Oside?! the Poke and a spam roll with a little finna-dinny (Guamanian spicy sauce) took me right back to the sandy shores of Maui. With excellent micro-brews on tap choice reggae you cannot go wrong here.

I love there food here plays good music, they have really good beers on tap with a great happy hr. My favorite is The spicy chicken dish or the fried rice. As for magic sauce! Haven't had anything I didn't like.

I seriously dream about their red rice! It was our first time trying guamanian food and I am so thrilled we did! It tastes like a great backyard BBQ homemade soul food with a lot of character and flair. For appetizer we ordered their famous chicken kelaguen with their homemade chips. It's not like anything I've ever tried. They were light, refreshing, and addicting. Especially those fresh made chips. Super crunchy and flavorful. Perfect vessel for the chicken keleguen. We tried their Chamorro style fried ribs with crazy delicious red rice and a side of potato salad. The rib marinade was simple but it was very unique and tasty! The ribs were fried but they were still juicy and tender, and that red rice... To die for!!! I regret not ordering extra red rice. It was simply orgasmic! Packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. Loved it!

This place is amazing! I have tried the Chamorro fried rice, beef short rib estufao, and the Chamorro style fried ribs. Along with the sampler platter. The food boosts with flavor and you can taste everything! The staff is courteous and helpful. Nothing but relaxing jams in the background and good environment. Not only a great place for food but a great place to have a drink with some friends. With 6 different drafts to choose from, sake, and other beers from overseas. A definite place to try. Ever since the first visit I've been coming back and back for more!

Delicious food, which shouldn't be a surprise with all the great reviews! We were seated immediately, and our food was served to us quickly, will definitely return! :)

I have never been to Guam. But, judging by the food at this place, it's a damn tasty island. Try the short ribs. They marinate them in some sort of devine happiness. Would be 5 stars, but the restaurant is too small. Needs more seating.

Yum for Chamorro food. Haven't been here in a while since it's in the far N. County. Food is consistently good, though a little salty. Staples of red rice and chicken kelaguen. Spam roll is bomb dot com. Beef short ribs were a little chewy. Fried pork ribs were fall off the bone yummy. The soy sauce dipping sauce is soooooo good. Yay for banana donuts with vanilla ice cream

  • Sherry M.

They got the meat, red rice, and finadene right. I wish that the empanada was a little more spicy. I remember the ones from back home having a sticky rice or flour consistency inside but this one I think is just chicken inside. It's about $13 for the Guahan Special; it comes with red rice, a side, chicken kelaguen, an empanada, and a choice of meat. It's $3.50 extra for short ribs. =[ Mannnnnn island food is expensive out here but this place tastes so good. The music is great, makes me miss home. Wish that they had a branch closer to San Diego.

I heard about this place from my boyfriend so we went here for lunch on a Saturday. There wasn't a lot of people and we were immediately greeted at the door and seated at a table. They have a lot to choose from in their menu, which I liked. Normally I would order chicken kelaguen at any Chamorro or Guamanian restaurant; however, there was so much to choose from here I couldn't decide. I decided to try something new and a favorite on their menu called the "Guam bomb" which is $9.95. It's described by one of the servers as the Guamanian version of carne asada fries. It's fresh fries topped with their chopped grilled chicken, grilled onions, melted Swiss cheese, spicy mayo sauce, and barbecue sauce. This is definitely enough to share for two people! I hardly made a dent eating it alone because it's very filling! My boyfriend ordered the chicken kelaguen with red rice $6.95 and the fried short ribs with red rice $10.95. I tried the chicken kelaguen and I thought it was pretty good but not the best I've had. Gave this place 3 stars because of portion size for their meal entrees. Although the Guam bomb was large enough to share with two people, the meat entrees like the fried short ribs was a little pricy for the amount they give you. It was kind of plain in my opinion. If I'm ever in the area again, maybe I'll come back and try the poke or other things on the menu.

We swam all the way from Guam to Ocean Side just to eat Guam food. Brody... But the food was bomb diggy! Well worth the trip.

Need a break from burgers and taco shops.. Guahan Grill can help with that with some classic Guamanian cuisine, aka Chamarro food. My husbands Guamanian and I'm Filipino so we love this island flavor and grew up on much of it. It's hard to find though. And every place cooks it a little differently. Their's is ok but I admit I have had better when it comes to the kelaguen, empanadas and vinidini sauce. But most everything else is on point like there red rice, lumpias and barbecu meats. Super good. Didnt really care for the cucumber marinated salad, cucumber is shriveled and brown looking from marinade. Never had that at any other Chamarro restaurant. Would prefer a slice of watermelon or fresh fruit but they do offer stir fry veggies or green salad. The dining area can be tight so I prefer take out. However one bummer about that is they have coupons and groupons and stuff but they restrict them to dine-in only. Boo! And they arn't cheap prices ranging from $10-$20 bucks.

I love this place! My first time trying Guamanian food was from here and it was deliciousssss. I live in Mira Mesa so it's quiet a drive but it's definitely worth it. I get the Guahan special every time with the grilled boneless chicken, kelaguen, red rice, and stir fry veggies. The chicken itself has a lot of flavor but they also give you this delicious dipping sauce for it that makes it that much better. The kelaguen has a citrus-y taste with a hint of spice. And the veggies are so good, I've been trying to figure out how to make it lol. I also tried the spare ribs and even though I'm not huge on pork, I loved it! The meat is so tender and falls right off. The 4-5 times I've been here, there was never a wait or anything. So you should definitely give this place a try if you're looking for some island food.

I can only attest to the spam rolls because I came in for a light snack. They were excellent. It will be hard to go back to regular spam musubi elsewhere.

I tried the Kadun Pika. It is chicken simmered with onions garlic hot pepper coconut milk vinegar and soy sauce served over rice. It's basically white rice in a chicken broth type of sauce, no veggies. The waiter warned that it has a salty taste. In reality you cannot taste the coconut milk. Salt and vinegar potatoes chips is what came to my mind. But it has such a delicious delicious taste! Not too overpowering. I highly recommend! Food was great! Service was great! Which is why I'm giving it a 5 star!

Went here with my roommate after seeing this place on yelp. It was very good. Busy for a Friday night and had to wait a bit but was worth it. I ordered the spam roll and was good but my entrée was superb. I had the short rib dish with red rice. That rice was amazing and my favorite part. My roommate got the chicken kati and also the red rice. His also was very good. Our server, Alyssa was very helpful and pleasant as was everone that worked there. Definetly will be back.

I had the beef short ribs with white rice. The food was tasty but a bit too much vinegar flavor. The ribs were tender but fatty, but most spare and short ribs are a bit fatty. The waitress was very polite and took my order quickly. I ate at 2:30 p.m., so the crowd was lite. I'm sure it's much more busy at peak lunch and dinner hours. The price range is fair for this type of restaurant, with most entrées priced between $10-$15. They have an extensive beer selection and serve hot and cold sake. I'm willing to give the place another try, but from the reviews I read before visiting, I was a little disappointed.

Awesome place!!!! The pork ribs are fall off the bone and delicious tasting!! Their lumpia and empanadas are crunchy and flavorful and unique. Even their vegetables are delicious. Grilled yet still crunchy and has almost a teriyaki flavor!! The staff is really nice and helpful. The place is clean and has a cute bar inside that offers beer and sake!!! My new fave spot!!!

I had Guahan Grill cater my graduation party last weekend. I wasn't sure how much food to get and Tony did a great job helping me figure out everything I needed. Everyone LOVED the food and we had the perfect amount. Would 100% recommend them for catering anyones party event in the future. Thanks!!!!

I wasn't impressed. I got the grilled Ono, red rice and cucumber salad. The fish was really dry, red rice was just ok, the cucumber salad was quite blah. Too expensive for such low quality. My husband did enjoy his meal, though. He had the Guam bomb, which was some sort of french fry thing. It had a whole bunch of toppings on it. I got the kids the chicken and rice, that was also just ok. Not impressed at all. :(

What a great find! I've never had Guamanian food before, so I don't know what to compare it to. The food was delicious! I had the Kadun Pika. Sounded similar to a curry so I figured I'd be safe with that. It was a bit thinner than the curries I've had and obviously had way different spices but it was amazing! I just ordered it a little too spicy. Loved it but my eyes started to water toward the end of the dish! (I was given a spice level selection 1-2-3, I chose 2. I can usually handle spice pretty well, but I definitely get a 1 next time) My husband got the Guahan Special with the pork ribs. The meat was perfectly cooked, fell off the bone, great flavor. We loved the red rice, and he was especially excited to see how many beer options they had. He ordered a Cali Creamin' from Mother Earth brewery. On top of the amazing food, the service was wonderful. The moment we walked in we were greeted and found a seat. My water glass never had the chance to be empty, and our waitress was really friendly. The staff all seemed to be having a good time with each other but also made sure their patrons were attended to. Great atmosphere. We'll definitely be going back and bringing friends!

Food was great and reminded me of the good food in Guam. Portion size was ok but food was kind of pricy. They don't have one in the OC that I know of so this was more for the experience. Still a great place to eat when you want some Chamorro food.

I'm very skeptical about trying new places because of my food allergies but my boyfriend convinced me to give it a try. And i must say i fell IN LOVE with this place! Its small and cute and you get such an island vibe from the decor to the music! I always dine in because of the atmosphere! Very chill and relaxing. Such a great place to enjoy a meal with your company you can sit and talk and you don't feel rushed like at most restaurants who want the turn over. The food is excellent! I cant tell you how many times I've been here lol but i can tell you the servers recognize me. I absolutely loveee the spam rolls (my guilty pleasure) I've had the chamorro fried rice with spam which is excellent! The local style grilled fish is also delicious, the cooks know what they are doing seeing as my fish is always cooked to perfection, i get that with the white rice and cucumber salad and im in heaven! The Guam bomb is DELICIOUS! Its definitely a must try when visiting here! The staff is very friendly and they never look annoyed to help, they check on you periodically and are always on top of refills! Absolutely love this place!!

Not sure it deserves 5 stars, or close...but the food is good and the server was very sweet. Had the special Chamorro Fried Chicken. It was fine, good...but nothing I would come back for. Seems like everything is tossed in a vinegar like soy mix. Not bad. But leaves me hanging.

Not a fan of the fatty beef, I had to chew and chew then eventually spit out half of my food. And I also found it to be overpriced. Portions are large fyi. Probably wont come here again. The waitress was very nice though, which is why this review went from 2 stars to three.

I've been here several times since it has opened. I've ordered several different things off the menu including the locals deluxe (my favorite), the guhan noodles, the fried ribs and several others. Everything has always been delicious and well cooked. The staff is always friendly and service is always great! The food is a little pricy but worth it in my opinion. Great little place to check out if you're in the mood for some island food!

I just checked Orbitz and the cheapest airfares right now between San Diego and Guam start at about $1500 and go up fast from there. Pretty much all of the options have 2 stops: through LAX or SFO, and then through Tokyo, Osaka or Honolulu - obviously there are no nonstops. It is looking like I may not make it to Guam for a while, so maybe Guahan Grill will have to suffice. I'd never had Guamanian food before, but now I've been twice to this restaurant. Guamanian food - with my only data point being Guahan Grill - is a lot like Hawaiian but just a little bit delightfully different. For example, on both visits I started with the Spam Roll, which was delicious. In a Hawaiian place the Spam Roll would typically have sported a soy based sauce - here the sauce is a rich spicy mayo. That is not to say soy sauces aren't featured - a soy based sauce was the star of my chicken fried rice lunch special, which I also liked a lot, especially at the bargain lunch special price of $6.95. That brings me to my next point - the menu has a great variety of tastes at various price points. Last time I had the Poke Tacos lunch special. I liked the poke itself but it was a little buried under sauceless cabbage, and I didn't love the hard taco shells. My buddy liked his chicken stir fry lunch special - I was a little jealous his came with broccoli - mine was uniformly brown, but still very tasty. Even the Lumpias are discounted at lunch - each is only $0.50, max 4 per customer. They are like little egg rolls but maybe a little meatier and richer. Really good, especially with the sweet sauce. The same server helped me on both visits, and everyone we met at Guahan Grill was super friendly. During my second lunch visit there was a big table of Navy guys - I'm pretty sure everyone attending was from Guam. For a wonderful taste of Guamanian food, or for a unique casual meal in general, Guahan Grill is a good place to try. Thanks to YELP for another great find.

Hafa adai! Like stepping into my grandma's house, but with a better beer selection. Guahan Grill has everything to make you feel at home. Grilled chicken to die for. Red rice. Tangy chicken kelaguin. Craft beer on tap! The price is right, and the food is plentiful. Do yourself a favor and split the mixed grilled meat plate. The empanadas were crisp and flavorful. Tasty (but not too spicy) finadeni. Not a single dish missed the mark, and I ate myself silly. Si Yu'us ma'ase!

We recently used their catering services for an event that we had, and we are very pleased with their services. We ordered red rice, BBQ pork ribs, chicken Kelaguen, empanadas, and chicken BBQ. Everything that we ordered was delicious! All of our guests were asking where we purchased our food from. Many of them said it's like they were eating food from Chamorro Village ;) Thank you so much Guahan! P.S. Carl (the catering manager) was very helpful and the ordering process was easy.

Beach and grub... Chamorro kine! mag lahi all the time, with left overs to eat again. I was order double rice and its never enough... the empanada not necessarily my thing, but its at least something I leave with the left overs to give to the husband :) feni deni all over everything. HIghly recommend. . . . also always good music to have an amazing meal to.

Coming here always reminds me of home. I came here when I visited friends living in San Diego. Of course, the islander in me needed to check out this place, so we did. I was in (Guam) heaven! We ordered the fiesta plate...and man oh man my taste buds were very happy. The red rice, BBQ chicken, cucumber salad and kelaguen is on point! We had to get a bottle of king car while feasting. The decorations they had brought back memories of living in the tiny island in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant is clean and the staff was very nice. I've tried other Guam restaurants, but this is by far my favorite one. If only they could open one in Vegas *hint hint*

This is another Chamorro go-to joint my family and I would frequent when we're feeling for some of that good-good (why do people say that? I've yet to understand). The only disadvantage to this is that it's SO far!!! I guess in a sense that's a good thing because otherwise I'd be there on the daily for my grind fix. But anyways... THE DIGS and SERVICE: Studding the walls of this less-than-40-seater restaurant are photos and memorabilia representing Guam and the community in which this restaurant resides. It's simplistic, warmly-painted establishment (like many mom and pops shops) invites you in with reggae-remixed versions of today's hits as well as a staff that treats you like family. However, it is tight in there so make sure to cozy up with your fellow diners. THE GRINDS: Ahi Poke: This by FAR has to be the best poke I've tried thus far (ON THE MAINLAND), but if you know of a place better let me know because I'm still hunting. The flesh of the tuna didn't have the texture that most frozen "fresh" fish have after being thawed and the mixture of green onions, spice and sauce enhanced the flavor of the fish tenfold. Shrimp Kelaguen: If you're familiar with the tart and tangy taste of chicken kelaguen, imagine that with shrimp and you've got yourself a flavorful visualization. It would be considered the Chamorro version of shrimp ceviche in my taste buds and It could do without the tortilla chips. If I could make a suggestion, I'd prefer it with taro chips to counter the salt with something more subtle. Shrimp Kadu: Just like my favorite dish (Kadun Pika), the shrimp soaks in a spicy coconut broth with zucchini and red rice. Its flesh still had a nice snap to it and the finadene sauce on top of the red rice helps to complete the dish. J's Baked Fish: Amazingly moist and flavorful, this dish takes me back to how my dad would prepare baked fish. The mayo, onion, and tomato crust on top of the fish helps to lock-in the natural juices and the flake of the fish is neither mushy or hard. The price for these grinds is fairly reasonable, especially for the amount of food they hash out. It's straight island comfort and it's something to warm the soul with. If you find yourself venturing out to the Oceanside/Vista area and you're looking for a place to dine, check out Guahan grill. The Chamorro hospitality will welcome you in before your find your way to a seat.

Unfortunately, being from Guam, I was really disappointed with the food. It's good but it's missing the essence of Chamorro food. They should stay true to their roots. If I wanted "American" BBQ sauce on my ribs, I'd go to Dave's famous BBQ or something. And for crying out loud, they were BAKED! (GASP!!!!) Bottom line is, the menu lacks authentic Chamorro "fiesta" food. The chicken kelaguen tasted really off and the empanada had no flavor. I enjoyed the red rice and the cucumber salad though. Other than that, I won't be coming back again....unless making a pit stop next door to get yogurt! It's too "haoli-nized"

I married a Chamorro and he loves this place. I had their empanadas, chicken kelaguen and fried ribs - all were super yummerz. You can also get hot peppers for the finadene since it doesn't come spicy - just ask! I can't wait to come back and try more things!

I was introduced to this restaurant by my cousins... This is one of their favorite restaurants in SoCal so whenever they're in town we'd always meet here for dinner. I haven't been here in a few months, but it looks like they changed their menu a little..I noticed the change bc on the way over I had my mind set to having the salmon...but when I saw the menu it was wahoo. Since I've never had wahoo I decided to get the Guahan Special. The beef spare ribs were cooked beautifully. The meat was well seasoned and very tender! It also came with chicken kelaguen (my fav!) an empanada, rice and a side! It came with so much food I brought my leftovers for lunch the next day! Which was awesome b/c I was able to enjoy it...TWICE! Service is always good! This is a small restaurant and everyone is friendly and attentive! Don't forget to save room for dessert and get chocolate wasted!!! Oreo cookies baked in cookie dough served with a side of ice cream! I'm drooling just thinking about it :P

I had a lovely dinner here while visiting family in Oceanside. The restaurant was not very crowded when we went for an early Saturday dinner. The server was very friendly. And they have a short but interested beer list, with a lot of local brews; we tried a large bottle of Belching Beaver peanut butter milk stout, which was interesting and dessert-like and a lot of fun. I ordered the shrimp kadu ($12.75), which was FANTASTIC -- succulent and flavorful shrimp cooked with zucchini in a light and creamy coconut sauce. A 5 star dish, for sure. My guy ordered the Spam fried rice ($9), which was tasty and a large portion but very simple, and a touch on the bland side. There were no veggies in it, and it was not very heavily seasoned; it would be very easy to make the same exact dish at home. We tried the banana "donuts" for dessert. Don't expect a typical donut, or anything with banana filling. Rather, it's more like banana bread made into a zeppole (deep fried dough, for those of you who have yet to experience the joy of zeppole.) They were tasty, and our leftovers reheated well the next day. Overall, Guahan Grill is a good option for Guamanian/Chamorro/Island food (and probably one of the only options in the area?)

Best Island Food in Oceanside!!! Took me back to memory lane when I took a bite of the Chamorro Style Fried Chicken & Pork Ribs with Red rice. Haven't been back on the island for 13 years and here I'm reminiscing my childhood days by the beach in Saipan. Some co - worker just mentioned this place and man after I week I ended up here. Also tried the Lumpia, Spamrolls, Empanada, & and man the "Chocolate Wasted!!!" Don't forget to order that for dessert, it's the bomb here! Made with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Oreos and a side of Vanilla Ice Cream. Best when they bring it out warm. Just wanna say "Si Yu'us ma'ase" to everyone in Guahan Grill, We'll be back soon.

Love this place, 4.5 stars. Ribs are crispy on the outside juicy on the inside. Stir fry veggies are soury, salty goodness. Rice is great, that chopped up chicken thing everyone likes is great, empanadas and lumpia-ish things are great, service is pretty good and friendly. Very unique flavors and laid back vibe. Highly recommended.

My sister-in-law lives in Guam and hence I had heard about their famous BBQ from my wife. She raved about their red rice too. When we discovered there was a Guamanian restaurant in Oceanside we just knew we had to try it next time we drove to San Diego from OC. Guahan Grill is located in a shopping center where the entrance is in the back.... very strange and a little confusing. The inside is relatively clean and they have a nice little bar with a TV. I would guess that they could accommodate about 30 people total, not including the bar. My only complaint is when they cleaned the table we were going to sit at, there were still some food particles on the table after he wiped out. The food is the real reason you come to this place... where else are you going to get Guamanian cooking???? There were a bunch of us so we ordered: - chicken kelaguen with red rice - beef short ribs estufao - spam fried rice with eggs - chicken fried rice - BBQ chicken with a cucumber salad and red rice The red rice is awesome. It has a coconut flavor to it in addition to something else that makes it very tasty and compliments the BBQ. The BBQ chicken is grilled and charred and served with a soy/vinegar based sauce that is yummy. The cucumber salad is basically sliced cucumbers drenched in vinegar and sugar(?) - love it! The chicken kelaguen is an interesting dish that takes some getting use to. It is vinegary and sour. Filipinos have the same dish and love it. The beef short ribs were obviously marinated in some coconut and something else and then lightly grilled. It was very tasty, however some of the pieces were too fatty for me. The fried rice variations (chicken and spam) were excellent. They do not skimp on the meat in the fried rice. Portion sizes for everything was a decent size and the friend rice was a lot. My wife says the food is authentic and takes her back to her childhood days when she visited her sister in Guam and ate the food. Unless you are going to Guam or have Guamanian friends, you gotta try this place out.

I've heard of Guamanian food. But I didn't think it would made without any soul or heart at all. Granted I only ordered one item; I believe it was Pika Kadun (something like that, it was pork I'm sure.) it was around $10.00 and you'd expect to get some amazing plate of veggies and other side dishes. All I got was the pork and red/white rice. Maybe it was the selection but I mean c'mon I was expecting something with a little bit more color and more additions of veggies and garnishes. But it was simple and plain. I didn't really get the feel of Guamanian styles cooking. Or anything close to it. I felt as if some white guy decided to open up a Guamanian themed restaurant and cook some Guamanian food. It was boring and heartless. But nonetheless less the food was mediocre at best.

The empanadas were good and so was the poke. There's no coffee but the island jams made me feel I was back home on Guam. 671 all the way! Check out Guahan Grill for some island flavor if your in the area.

Absolutely fantastic food and service, Had the $21.50 combo, which was really enough food for three people. Chamorro Style Fried Chicken, Chamorro Style Fried Pork Ribs, Beef Short Rib Estufao, Red Rice. Chicken Kelaguen = all excellent !

I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place! 5 Stars for the BEST Guamanian food I've had! Need I say more? Not really, but I'm gonna... Definitely a must try for those Islander food enthusiast. The Mega Lahi Special is what it's all about! Enough to split between 2 people, you still might even have some extra to take home! This entree comes with chicken, beef short ribs and pork spare ribs. All three are to die for... but the rib meat is fall off the bone tender amazingness... yes I'm making up a word to describe its' awesomeness. Love their cucumber salad, kelaguen and red rice too! I've had their catered food too and their prices are pretty reasonable. Location is a bit off the freeway in a stripmall, no problems with parking and they have several tables inside. I've always been able to get a table easily when going here. Simply decorated and good music playing, always a good way to enjoy food! Can't wait to go back. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. Ha!

Cool little place and this was my first time tasting GUAMANIAN Food! Impressions: It's a lot like 'Hawaiian' local food. Chris, one of the owners, was open and freindly You get a large portion every time! Only negative: If you want healthy options, there are not a lot of them. Overall, nice place to try something new, if you are in the area, like Guamanian food!

I live in L.A. and looking for island food round the way from l.a. to San Diego and found this gem. Never had chamorro food before but since I'm Filipino, there are similarities with the dishes. Friendly service and delicious food. Came in to eat lunch on the way back to LA and ended up with 3-4 to go boxes. Already tried all the food on menu. Favorites are kelaguen, beef estufao and of course the chocolate chip oreos. I always stop by here when I get a chance traveling back n forth. @instanino43

A fantastic new little gem I found near my house. All of the food was seasoned deliciously! I had the Guahan Special plate which was a little sampling of lots of different dishes from Guam. The service was amazing. We were greeted as soon as we came in, our cups never ran empty, and our bill was handled quickly. Excited to come back and check out many of the other dishes on the menu, lots to choose from!

Excellent. We used the groupon to try this place out and we loved it. Will definitely go back. I had the Kadun Pika at a level 8 spiciness. It was delicious! But very hot! I love hot, but next time I think I will go down to a 7. The flavors reminded me of Filipino food, lots of soy and vinegar. My husband had the Chimarro ribs- wonderful! My kids (4 and 7) had the Patgon Special- one with chicken and one with ribs- and they loved it. The kids also loved the special sauce (can't remember what they called it) it was soy sauce with onions and tomatoes and vinegar. They played reggae and had island decor. Very relaxing. Portion sizes were good size. Loved the whole thing.

The bbq is soooooo goood! Red rice is sooooooo gooood! My gf is from Guam, and she said this place really did things right. Except maybe the soy sauce stuff was not quite perfect and didnt have a spice kick to it. I liked the kelaguan.

So glad this place is in the area! This place is clean has plenty of seating and the food is always served fresh! The Customer Service is outstanding and Parking Plenty! Don't forget to check in to YELP here as they have a secret surprise deal! What I ordered: SHRIMP KADU $10.50 Peeled shrimp sautéed with coconut milk, seasoning, onions and zucchini. Served over rice. They also have a Special Happy Hour with a Sapporo and sake! The music is awesome and the decor makes you feel like you are on the island! Love!

One word, YUM!! Wish we had some thing like this in texas. The portions were a bit extreme, but if I could, I would have tried to finish it. make sure you save room for their cookie and ice cream dessert, not sure what it's really called but that itself was heavenly!

Got the locals deluxe with the boneless chicken, red rice and vegetables while my boyfriend got the kadun pika. Everything came out tasty and the chicken was moist and tender. The kadun tasting kind of like adobo (if you're Filipino you'll know what I'm talking about) with a hint of coconut milk. Everything is decently priced and worth the value. I will definitely be back to try more

This place has left me with a craving for Spam. I first encountered these guys at a food/wine festival and loved their sampling and had to check out the restaurant. Went in for dinner the other night and had the appetizer sampler and Spam fried rice. My favorite was the Spam roll that had a spicy aioli inside. I will definitely be back for that roll. The space is small and has a very casual vibe. They have TV's by the bar with sports on. Great place for a quick/relaxed dinner.

I did the Yelp deal for 10 bucks. What a deal. The food was bomb, our server, I think his name was Carlos, was super chill. Talked Chargers with us and kept up with a pretty busy lunch time crowd. The food came out quickly and accurately for our party of two. Things that stood out to me were the Lumpia deal, (50 cents each up to four)and the chicken with lemon my friend had as a side dish was amazing. Island themed, laid back, I'll be around again.

Drove 53 miles to taste this food and it is everything I thought it would be, this is Guam in the USA. The best I have ever had since I left Guam in 2010. Beef short ribs are to die for, red rice is yummy, and waitress was above and beyond the call of duty, she made the experience even better. I would recommend this to anyone. Delicious Chamorro food at its best!!!!!

    (5)
  • Edwin D.

Empanadas were bomb. I never had a chicken empanada that was that flavorful. All of the food I tasted here was delicious and packed with flavor and spice. Very unique to say the least. Had really good beers on tap too! Solid stop for sure. Highly recommend it.

I live in the city of Orange, Ca. I've been trying to get down here for awhile and Guahan Grill was definitely worth the wait! All the meats were excellent! Phenomenal red rice.. Dessert was great as well.. We had the cookies with hidden Oreo! I can go on and on! The staff was so helpful. I can't wait to go back because it is worth every mile. You need to open one up in Orange County!

Always wanted to try this place, but always would come by on the one day they were closed. Finally got to give it a shot and loved the atmosphere from the start. nice little bar with friendly staff who recommended the "cali crush" beer(it was the best tasting microbrew i have had in awhile) As far as the food i wasn't a fan of the empada but the rest was incredible, filling and more than enough for leftovers

The food is great and the owners and employees are wonderful. I have tired several Chamorro restaurants and none compare to the Guahan Grill. The Maga'Lahi Special and Short Rub Estufao are a few of my favorites. I love how they're friendly and the food is always on point.

Yummy! My son and I tried this place after his music lesson in the next building. He's a hard one to please, and he LOVED the fried rice with chicken. I got the red rice, chicken, lumpia and charred veggies. SO good. I'll be back . . .

Oside being home to so many islanders, it is refreshing to see a Chamorro restaurant doing well. My wife and I moved to Oceanside last year, and she was born and raised in Guam, so this is a must needed stop every once in awhile to get her fix. The owners are brothers I believe that grew up in Guam as well, so it doesn't get anymore authentic. Please go in, support a good family owned business with some good food. Chicken Kelaguen and red rice are my staples and a must eat at this spot, with a big King Car Iced Tea on the side! HAFA ADAI.

The Guam Bomb is literally bomb-diggity. Fries topped with BBQ chicken, spicy mayo, Swiss cheese, and green onions, this dish is absolutely delicious. everything on it was harmonious even when it seemed like they wouldn't be. the guy working here was really nice and was the only one working doing everything from the bar to being a server and the host. let me tell you, he was on top of eeeeverything. he helped everybody out and waited on all the tables and never missed a beat. so, good food and good service, If you're in the area you should definitely give this place a visit.

Pacific Island comfort food. I'm so mahalang for Guam! We weren't that hungry on our pit stop from San Diego so we ordered the Spam roll and shared the Maga Lahi Special. The Spam roll had a little twist, it had spicy mayo, OMG who knew that would make such a difference. It was sooo good! And I'm glad we shared the Maga Lahi special...who can finish that alone? We had to balutan the leftovers for later snacking. Now I know, go there when you've fasted for 3 days so you can eat to your heart's content. We're looking forward to our next visit, and the kelaguen sampler is on the list. I'm so jealous of you SoCal peeps!!!

Love this place! The food is so authentic and the service is great. Awesome little quaint hole in the wall place that has the games on and plays reggae music. They get busy for sure and the servers are busting their asses to make sure all is great. They have a good selection if like 5 or 6 craft beers on tap which is what takes it from A 4 to a 5. Alyssa the server is awesome. She could be so busy but knows what she's doing and has the whole restaurant and her tables in control. All and all love it and love Alyssa.

a great hidden treasure in Oceanside! of course i may be a little biased because my friends own this restaurant, but the food is truly great - a fantastic taste of the pacific islands! i've frequented Guahan Grill only a few times before as i don't get many opportunities to be back in Oceanside, but last night was for an extra special occasion: a lifelong friend of mine's fundraiser as he battles cancer. what a great way to enjoy great food and great company! the portion sizes will definitely leave you satisfied. my favorite is the short ribs, but pretty much all the dishes are great. the empanadas and shrimp kelaguin we ordered were also tasty, as were the fish with mixed veggies and red rice. for dessert we ordered the Chocolate Wasted which was exceptional as well. while you're at it, enjoy the game on tv or order something from the bar to pair with you food, it's all good! -civilities.

Seriously, we are addicted to this place. I sing their praises anytime I can. I crave their chicken kelaguan. We were so happy we stumbled across this place via Yelp! We have a new favorite go to! And the pricing is very reasonable. Love their craft beer tap list - they do flights now! Love love!

LOVED THIS PLACE. I definitely wouldn't come here if I was looking for a light or healthier meal, but the food was amazing last night! Our server was sweet and gave us ample time to look over the menu but never forgot about us. I ordered the guahan special and my husband ordered the baked fish. We noticed it was happy hour til 6pm so we took advantage of the $1 rolling rock amd the $2 small sakes. This is comfort food in a small setting. Red rice was tasty, pork ribs that were ridiculously tender and stir fry vegetables that were not overcooked or limp. We will definitely go back!

The Guam Bomb was really good but I just got pork spare ribs with rice and veggies and it was so not worth the cost. I think the food was okay, definitely not worth the price though. Way overpriced.

This place is on point. Best Guamanian food ever. The guys that work here are very friendly. Everything we ordered was great. Their Guam bomb fries were piled high with goodness and their keluguen was to die for. I am definitely coming back here.

Definitely a local treasure! The portions are rather large and the flavors are exquisite! The food is just delicious and and my taste buds thank me every time I visit. Pros: Good Food Decent Sized Portions Good Music Good Vibes Good people Con: I wish the location was a little bit more convenient! Perhaps a bit closer to the freeway or more populated areas. Nonetheless, it's worth the journey!

Guahan food! Yes please! Came here for lunch with some friends. I had split the maga lahi special with my friend. Damn that dish was worth every penny...3 different meats and 2 of each one ( BBQ chicken, beef short ribs, & pork spare ribs). Also chicken kelaguen was included which was my favorite. It personally reminded me of a Filipino fish called sisig. Only down side was they only have us 2 scoops of rice! How do u expect me to eat all this meat with only 2 scoops of rice! They should of given 4 scoops. This is definitely a meal that can be shared between 3 people. Overall definitely would recommend. Great service, food, and clean place.

So I came here because I'd heard multiple people talk this place up. It's right next to IHop and is a chill, casual little restaurant with an islander vibe. I had the yelp Local Special chicken friend rice with 2 lumpia. the lumpia were made to crisp perfection and the meat inside was yummy. The chicken fried rice actually reminded me of the Japanese fried rice my mom used to cook with all the spring onion and pepper that was in it. Unfortunately the chicken was just a bit overcharred for my taste, as we're my friends shirt ribs, but the overall flavor was good. I REALLY fell in love with the banana donuts and ice cream dessert- that shit is dangerous.

My boyfriend is 100% Chamorro and has lived in Guam for 10 years (Agana Heights represent) so when we heard about this place countless of times from his aunt, we had to try especially because we just moved in the OC area and my bf has no family to make him Chamorro food down here whenever he wants (except for me, his girlfriend who is trying to learn her best to make the Chamorro favorites, not exactly there yet so if needed we have a restaurant to turn to). We were coming home from the San Diego airport back to our house from our Christmas vacation in the bay area and we decided last minute to try it (which I'm honestly surprised we did because we ate so much chamorro food back in the bay) but I'm sure glad we did because it was amazing. Let me first off start off by saying Chamorro food is not Filipino food and it's nothing close to it so please do not compare the two - they are two different races and two different foods. Usually we like homemade food (espeically Chamorro) but since we were in the area we to try it and see how authentic it really was. The service was really good and they were super friendly. I love how they have Guam favorites such as King Car, as well as the other chamorro favorites, how awesome! One thing I love about this Restaurant that Chamorro Grill (another Chamorro spot in SD) is lacking is authentic finadene, seriously it's not hard to make but somehow Chamorro Grills version is so wrong and too pika in my point of view and Guahan Grills is SOOO right!! In addition the meat was really tasty, red rice was good and my boyfriend LOVED how they made Cucumber salad (I believe it's called) it's one of his favorite dishes that his mom used to make back in Guam. The kelaguen was awesome as well (my boyfriend prefers his grandfathers because its cut up in more tiny pieces but I like it big how they had it). Also I really like the hospitality they gave us, my boyfriend was asking one of the guys where to get some meat that you could only get in Guam he was really helpful and even had a conversation with him. Overall good experiences and we will be back whenever he needs his Chamorro fix and I'm too lazy to make. Thank you Guahan Grill for making my boyfriend feel like he's back on his island again!!!

After a weekend at the Guam cultural festival, it was nice to actually sit down and check out this vendor who was at the festival itself. If you love Guam food, you'll find yourself right at home here. The staff was friend and very helpful in the selection of the food. Went with the Maga Lahi special, which is basically one giant sampler of meats and food. Something I definitely recommend if you're not sure what to go for. We wanted to try all three type of Kelaguen they offered but they were out of the fish. So we ended up having the shrimp Kelaguen and the chicken Kelaguen. Both were SO good! You can even order a few Guam specific drinks. If that's not your thing they also have a fair selection of beers on tap as well as some sakes. Overall I could not get enough of this place and will be coming back here again when we're in the area.

Love this place. Reminds me so much of home. The staff and food are good. The dessert o of oreo baked in cookie dough is fabulous. Chicken is marinated to perfection and grilled just right. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area again. Try this place out. Your friendly Yelper, Jen

Service was awesome right from the start! Way to go yelp, always knows where the best places to eat are. The food is extra tasty! Great food and great atmosphere. I will definitely be back. They were nice enough to allow my little doggie to eat on the patio with me. Can't wait to try some of the other great eats... Gotta stop writing now, about to get chocolate wasted with their desert :-)

So excited to see a Guamanian restaurant nearby! I used to live in Guam, so it is so awesome to experience the food here in the states. First of all, it's Guamanian food, so I didn't expect to see white table cloths and binded menus and such, which is fine. I don't expect to see that at a Mexican restaurant. In fact, I kind of prefer the no thrills, nothing fancy environment when I'm eating at a restaurant like this. It's all about the food, which is the most important part. Speaking of, the food was very tasty. Their grilled chicken was full of flavor. The red rice was yummy and the stir-fried vegetables were awesome. Now, it is definitely sodium rich, some people dig it while others don't, but I thought it was great here. It's even better with a delicious beer to pair with it. There's nothing more to say here. Not that that's a bad thing, it's exactly what I want from a restaurant like this. The service was good. I talked to the proprietor, who was very friendly. It was great talking about the island life with him. Tasty food here that I can easily recommend to others.

So yummy. And healthy. I've been looking for a place that has great quality food, fast and friendly service, and healthy options. We tried the lumpia, empenadas, chicken & rice, fried chicken & red rice, spam & sausage plate with eggs. It was all delicious! We'll be regulars for sure!

I'm from Guam and was craving food from home and a friend of mine suggested this place. I ordered the guahan special w/red rice, BBQ spare ribs, chicken kelequen, and empanada w/ green salad. First off, all the above I can make, but Guahan Grill didn't taste like home. The ribs were to vinegary (didn't taste like they put soy sauce in the marinade ), the empanada only had strip of chicken in it,where's the rice and veggies grinder up? The c. kelequen lacked salt and lemon. Don't they taste their food first? So disappointed that this place is trying to pass off their menu as chamorro food when in fact it's not. When you want to represent our island, don't cut corners....do it right. Adai!

I finally remembered to go here. Someone told me about this place a few years ago. I couldn't believe how close it is to my home in San Marcos. I haven't had Guamian food in years! I ordered my all time favorite...chicken keleguen and red rice. Delicious and tasted like what I had before. I also ordered "Guam bomb" fries. I didn't expect it to be so large so I had to take it home. As for the service, she was not as attentive as I would expect. At one point my girlfriend was asking for the waitress for three minutes and there weren't many guests at the time. Probably only two or three tables of other patrons. I look forward to coming here again even for just take-out.

my favorite place to eat when im in Oceanside. the food is amazing. and the beer selection is great as well. the staff is very friendly. its a great place to get good food, a good beer (good selection of local breweries), in a relaxed atmosphere. during football, basketball, baseball season this is a great place to go to as well. they always have a game on

My kids jump for joy when we come here. The food is delish, made to order, and service is great. Love the atmosphere! We always use their groupon or Amazon local deal, and never had an issue using them. It says dine in only with drinks, but when they are busy, they allow us to use the deal and take out because we have little ones.

Three/Four star food with two star service. The ribs were very tasty and the grilled veggies were outstanding. The kelaugen was ok - but I'm not a fan of the kelaugen generally (sp?) so no knock on them for that. It's more a 'me' thing. But the service leaves lot to be desired. I tried to order the chicken and ribs as a combo. Couldn't - apparently you can't trade out the kelaugen for somethin else. Seems silly. I had a yelp check in deal that gets me lumpia, rice, and a drink for $10. I confirmed that I could order iced tea as my drink. Then I see the waitress and manager having a discussion about my iced tea after they served it to me. Manager was clearly not happy that the waitress gave me iced tea as part of the yelp deal. And when the bill came they tried to charge me separate for the iced tea! They removed it after I complained but not before "checking with the manager." Pretty awkward experience for a customer and just seemed kind of petty. I still spent $30 for two people to eat lunch so they shouldn't really be skimping on iced tea vs. "fountain drink." I'd have debated four vs three starts were it not for the bad service. Three stars was easy and I could have made a case for two! Be careful here.

Continuation of my previous update. Apps are about what you'd think offering lumpia, empanada's and kelaguen, but their kelaguen is shredded BBQ chicken, lemon, peppers, spices and it goes great with rice, red rice or chips or served as a side dish. Shrimp and fish kelaguen are good too, but the chicken is the premier. Their spam roll has taken a major leap forward when they added the spicy mayo and I throw some sriracha on it and it's a perfect appetizer imo. The poke is similar to the fish kelaguen, but with different seasonings. Chicken kelaguen and red rice and a spam roll is a meal in and of itself. Corn soup specials when raining is a little sweet for my liking and they chicken salad is a good size with a pretty light dressing. The desserts are fried banana donuts, battered oreo cookies, battered twinkie or cookies with ice cream. I'm partial to the oreos and banana donuts. They offer some pesc and vegetarian options, but not many, baked or grilled fish offers a vinegar or soy based marinade. The baked uses a special cream topping and the portions of fish are excellent. They do veggie grilled noodles and stir fry or shrimp curry fried rice which is pretty darn good. Like the fried rice, but with shrimp and a curry paste that brings it all together. They offer fried ribs, fried chicken and fried fish which make it all so tender and lock in all the flavor. Kadun pika is chicken simmered in coconut milk, onions, garlic, hot pepper, soy and vinegar that goes better with white than red rice. You can get this super spicy as they use a dried pepper paste to increase the heat and it's not to be taken lightly on the heat scale. Spam fried rice with an egg on top is something that's good at night or for breakfast the next morning. I gained many pound off eating this and an appetizer and a few beers a few times a week. The Guam Bomb is another specialty that they do. Imagine carne asada fries, but the island version. French fires, spicy mayo, bbq sauce, bbq chicken, grilled onions and melted cheese. It's a pretty big plate that most people share. They do specials for Chargers games, corn soups specials when it rains, drinks specials on Lakers games (please check their FB for latest and most accurate details). I've literally been here over 100 times since they moved which was shortly after my last review. It's family owned and operated, so feel free to bring yours in and enjoy food from a lesser known island. My only wish is that they brought back the daikon and papaya and that they were still open on Mondays.

My friends and I went camping recently in SD and prior to going back home to LA, I suggested we check out Guahan. Definitely no regrets and can't wait to come back! I was born in Guam so I know Chamorro dishes! They're red rice, chicken kelaguen, and BBQ meat was spot on...so, so good! My friends loved it too, we even placed orders to go. Hafa adai, Guahan and thank you!

This place has been great. Only been here twice but great food and great friendly service. Try spare ribs or Maga Lahi special. Red rice is delish. Will definitely be back!

The best food in San diego. Friendly staff, good beer, and the best food you have ever had. This place made me hate Mondays because it's the only day they are not open! Do your self a favor and eat here!

Yeah buddy. Words can't express how good this place is. Chicken kelaguen and rice is bomb. Red rice with short ribs is amazing. Thumbs up. Keep it goin! Fron the street market to a building, I'll stay loyal to Guahan Grills grub.

I used to love this place, now the empanadas have no flavor the portions are so small and the prices went up!!! Man don't they know Chamorro portions, the red rice they used a child ice cream scoop!!! I understand the economy is down but if you are going to raise your prices keep your portions the same.... I don't think we will be back for awhile. Oh man the banana donuts, what happened!!! I wish you the best bit something has to change.

Me and my squad hit up the grill for good brews, good food, and good vibes and we have yet to be disappointed. I like to keep it simple by ordering the bowl, sometimes with a small side of lumpias. Check it out!

I loved this place. Good was great! Everything was amazing. Server didn't even use a note pad, not a single thing was messed up with all 3 of us. I will be coming back.

Delicious! Can't wait to go back! Everything we ordered beat our expectations. If you want authentic this place is your best bet.

Brought my visiting family here, who lives on Guam now, and they totally approve!. Everything was authentic, lots of flavor, and good sized servings. Everyone that came in to eat while we were there left with a box of left overs. The owners are Chamorro (from Guam), and the staff is super friendly. We'll definitely be enjoying the food again soon!

Tasty Guamanian grub. A little pricy, but definitely very high quality. I ordered the short ribs and they came out with a perfect texture, nice and meaty, and the sides were excellent (red rice, and a cucumber salad). The missus ordered chicken, and it was splendid as well. They have beers on tap and the place is very clean. Check it out!

It's been a little over a decade since I've been home to Guam. Today, two old friends (they're still vibrant, beautiful ladies) and I met up for lunch at this new location of theirs (nice upgrade). Guahan Grill was well-worth the 1.5 hr drive- generous portions, authentic to the palate, and a welcoming atmosphere (balanced for tourists and tasteful reminders of home). The island silhouette on their primary outdoor sign, the "Hafa Adai" above the bar area, and the scenic island photos along with woven baskets hung on the wall were indicative of the island's cultural and topographic identity. I look forward to another visit back. Dankulu na Si yu'us Ma'ase!

I used to live on Guam and I have been craving for chamorro food. Though it doesn't compare to food back home, it is still the closest thing. During my visit, I got the Guahan Special: Beef short ribs, chicken kelaguen, empanada, red rice & potato salad. And my friend and I shared the banana donuts with vanilla ice cream. The beef short ribs & chicken kelaguen were delicious. The beef short ribs were cooked well. It was juicy and tender. The chicken kelaguen tasted just like the ones back home. It was tangy but not overpowering. However, my red rice seemed over cooked. It was really dry and a bit tough to eat. As for the empanada, It was a little on the bland side. I added a little bit of the finadene sauce to give it more flavor. The potato salad was okay. Nothing special about it. Lastly, the banana donuts weren't the same as the ones back home. It was a little on the dry side and needed a bit more banana flavor. Though, the honey helped giving it more flavor and a moist texture. And the ice cream was just a plain old vanilla ice cream you can buy at the store.

I wish I could give them five stars just because its hard to find good guamanian/chamorro food. So I heard about this place when I moved from las Vegas to la jolla. I've been wanting to drive to Oceanside to try it. I bought groupons (always an issue) I should've known better but I figured I was going there I might as well. Of course right when I arrived it was an issue to use groupons and manager had to be called. Went over usual guidelines and I agreed to use 2 of the 3 groupons I bought. Food ordered everything out on usual time, service good. Red rice, pork spare ribs, cucumber salad, lumpia, finedene good. Everything was good so I placed a order to go so my son can try at home. After driving home my son goes to eat and all the red rice is burnt (bottom of rice cooker) pork spare ribs crisp... I don't know what to think. Pretty disappointed... I should've checked it before I left... so I guess bottom line is you can get a good meal here just check your food and don't buy a groupon. Bummer!

First time eating Chamorro food! Eating here makes me want more! I got the empanadas and my bf got the ribs and they were both super tasty! There's a sauce they gave for the rice and it was kinda like shoyu with an extra little kick! It was cool. The experience was like a 8. She was the only worker working so it took her forever to like tend to one table kause she was dealing with another. But she talked a little with us at the end kause I had questions. But it was a def eat again!

The staff was really nice but all the food was incredibly salty. I've worked in lots of restaurants, I had a former french laundry chef who was my boss tell me my pallet is an over salter pallet. The pork ribs, chicken, and poke were all incredibly salty, not quite to the point of inedibility but close. Maybe we caught a bad batch or someone with my pallet was working the kitchen but I wont be in a hurry to be back. We had to cut the meats with rice wine vinegar and lime juice to tone down the saltiness. I cook with MSG, I'm not opposed to using MSG, but I feel like I got a large dose of it with this meal.

If you are tired of the same old burgers, tacos and pizza (or if you are craving Guamanian food) you must try the Guahan Grill! The restaurant is clean and casual and you are greeted by a friendly staff and Island music. There is silverware on the table as well as real plates and glassware for the drinks. No plastic forks here!! I ordered Guahan special and chose chicken as my meat and cucumber salad as my side. It came with a side of chicken kelaguen, one empanada and red rice. The empanada was the best I ever had. If you have never had red rice it is a treat especially with finadene which is a sauce made of lemon juice, soya sauce hot peppers and onions. The chicken kelaguen was delicious! This meal satisfied my cravings for salty, sweet, tart and spicy! Come hungry because the portions are huge so we ended up bringing food home! There are more menu items we have yet to try so we will be back!

Be careful about this place. Portions are big. Guam Bomb is huge. Very good value for the price. Like Arnold says, "I'll be back." I gave the price as one $, but most entrees were $7 to $13. and 2 $'s seemed too much.

    (5)
  • Miguel R.

.. you know it's a good restaurant when you have friends that are chamorro & they eat there. The portions are incredibly generous, the staff is passionate and helpful; the restaurant is absolutely worth the trip.

first off....it's called GUAHAN GRILL....what's with the jamacian music? jesse bias or kc leon guerrero much? the staff was nice but kinda slow. the food was ok, nobody's is ever as good as grandma's. but honestly, i will not be returning. wasn't getting the island feel that i long for at all.

After moving from the LA area, Guahan grill was my comfort food that I just needed. Chamorro fried chicken has a marinade that's just delicious. Banana donuts are a great way to end your meal. Service is wonderful and pleasant. When family or friends come to visit the area, we don't hesitate to take them to this spot. It's never disappoints & always on point. Did I also mention how affordable the meals are for great serving size. Btw, they got groupon offers too... So look out for those.

  • Dung N.

I'm surprised this place was empty the whole time i was there- must be the location because the whole area was pretty dead. I ordered the GUAHAN SPECIAL since i had no idea what to get! For only $12.25 You get one choice of meat, Chicken Kelaguen and one Empanada paired with rice and one side item. For the meat, I got the pork spare ribs and the steamed veggies for the side item with red rice. It was a lot of food! We decided to do a mini food tour since this was a far drive for me...I really liked everything on my plate. My favorite item was the chicken kelaguen.

RARE SIGHTING!!! (4.5 stars) I didn't have to go to Guam, I just had to go to Oceanside. HELLA FAT STATUS. - FOOD, bombalocious - PRICES, affordable - SERVICE, great - AMBIANCE, small cute and clean This is the 1st Chamorro/Guamanian restaurant I've ever ate at. I grew up and have so many Chamorro friends, so eating their dishes is not new to me. For those that are curious, it's not too different than hawaiian and filipino food so don't be scared. Infact, wear your bigboy and biggirl pants because they know how to throw down on the plate. HEFFER-STYLE STATUS. GUAHAN SPECIAL ($12.25) - One choice of meat, Chicken Kelaguen, on Empanada, paired with Rice and a side item. HELLA FAT STATUS. I only weight 105 pounds and I am skinny as hell but I tore threw this plate. I selected pork ribs for my choice of meat because i love how chamorro's bbq and i wanted some of that Finadene Sauce. Chicken Kelaguen was yummy, loved it. Empanada was kind of too spicy for me, wasn't that much of a fan. Red rice was something I missed and crave from time to time. To be honest, it was just ok here. Perhaps I am spoiled because I've had home cooked version at family parties. Selected pickled cucumber for my side, always a good side anywhere. J'S BAKED FISH ($10.25) - Seasoned salmon covered with chopped onions, tomatoes and mayo, then baked to perfection. Served with rice and one side item. Dabbled into this place, their salmon was baked just right and they kept the skin on which was deliciously crispy. Will I be back? HELL YAH!!!! JABA APPROVED. Until the next review....

My family and I were ecstatic to see that there was a Chamorro restaurant near the hotel we were staying at on vaca. However, the recommended reviews and ratings did not accurately depict the restaurants food and service. The food is over priced, there isn't a consistency in flavoring, and the portion sizes were small. RED RICE=BLEGH. Kelaguen tasted more like ceviche...WHERES THE COCONUT?! I have 5 in my family, and we all left hoping to pick up something from a fast food place before heading back to the hotel. Thats $100 down the toilet..might as well go to L&L. I was really hoping to give this place 5 stars, but it just wasn't there. The one star is for having King Car Lemon Tea. & to all of you recommended reviews, you're a bunch of B.S.-ers!

We go here at least once or twice a week. The food here is amazing! My husband loves the kadun pika so much that he has yet to try anything else on the menu...haha. I've had their fried rice and red rice, both oh so amazing and loaded with flavor. As many times as I try to make "finadene" I could never perfect it the way they do. It's a must try with their BBQ chicken! The staff is always friendly and the establishment is always kept clean. This place is a must try if you love Chamorro food!

If you ask me where the best place to get Guamanian food is, I can now confidently, and without hesitation, say Guahan Grill has taken the lead! My friend has been to Guahan Grill a few times now since he first told me about the place and each time he goes, he posts pictures of his food on FB for all of us to see.... well, it got my attention and I told him I'm on a mission to go within the next couple days. Today was my lucky day... After a 40 minute drive....yes, 40 minutes to get to Guahan Grill from my neighborhood, I was mentally prepared for the deliciousness I was about to experience. As we walked in, Island music was playin and the feel of the place quickly put me in the mood! (Still upset Kalohe Kai broke up.... The station played 3 of their songs.) Our server was quick to seat us and was very polite making sure everyone was accommodated. First thing I noticed on the wall was a Happy Hour sign with their daily specials.... Big plus! So expect another review for happy hour at a later date. On to the food: Appy: SHRIMP KELAGUEN - This had chunks of shrimp mixed with lemon, green onions and hot pepper served with tortilla chips. This was excellent! It was a cross between shrimp ceviche with huge kelaguen flavor! The chips were thick and crispy so it was a good compliment. Tip: Scoop chip in the shrimp kelaguen, then add some Finadene Sauce on top! Trust me! MAGA LAHI SPECIAL - This had all three meats: Boneless-Skinless Chicken, Beef Short Ribs, Pork Spare Ribs. Also includes Chicken Kelaguen and one Empanada served with rice and one side item. I opted for potato salad as my side item. If you're really really hungry, I would still recommend splitting this! It is huge! The boneless chicken was full of flavor and moist. The Beef Short Ribs had a type of shoyu marinade which was excellent. And the Pork Spare Ribs... OMG! The Pork Spare Ribs was literally falling off the bone as you picked it up! It was soft, moist and just pure awesome! This was my favorite! The marinade they used in this is something I've never had. It was simply delicious! The empanada had chopped chicken stewed with onions, hot pepper, garlic and seasoning. Then wrapped with a corn masa shell and deep fried. The chicken kelaguen was shredded and tastefully done! Add Finadene to it and you got a party in your mouth! My other friend ordered the Guahan Bomb and it was BBQ Chicken over fries with cheese, green onions and onions. Didn't get to try this but from what he said, he plans on coming back to order the same thing again. Pictures posted! Note: Finadene is sauce used to compliment everything! I honestly almost took the Finadene sauce bowl and downed it as a shot it's so good! Fo real!

The Chicken fried rice with two eggs was outstanding, don't forget to add the sauce to it! Portions are HUGE, good luck walking out of that place hungry. There's about 7 beers on tap (great little selection) and a whole bunch of craft beers by the bottle. The staff is really friendly and attentive, good vibe all around. It got pretty busy at lunch time, which is a positive in my book. Thanks for dakine grinds, Guahan!

These guys make done good island food. Each time I go there I seem to be on one of those all day hangovers, and each time they serve me I feel instantly better. Try the spicy chicken dish they have...and ask them to spice it out even more. You won't regret it...well, you will, but at the time it's soooo worth it.

  • Pamela M.

Yuuumy! This place is awesome! I love this blend of flavors and the spice is just right, heat with flavor. I'm so stoked I live close to this place, I'll be a regular. My husband loves the Guam bomb, I got a chicken dish with red rice spicy #5 and the fried rice with spam. It fed me for two days lol! This is, a place I won't be sticking to the same thing, I'm gonna try everything on the menu!!

  • Caroleann B.

Gosh, I was going to give a four star rating (needs to sharpen up on customer service) , but went ahead a gave a five star because the food was good and the service was "friendly." Tried: Fish Keleguen Shrimp Keleguen Side order of Portuguese Sausage Lumpia Empanada Spam Roll Chamorro Fried Rice with Spam Corn Coconut Soup The have Japanese beer, Plum Wine and Sake. Colorful & clean place, really friendly employees, clean restrooms. Everything was tasty! My favorite so far, the Empanadas. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. I wish there were more traditional desserts to try.

  • Cameron M.

This place is awesome! The price is $$ but you get TONS of food. My favorite thing to get is the guahan plate. Even on my hungriest of days I still can't finish that whole thing...seriously you could probably share that whole thing between two people. I'm part Guamanian and my family is from Guam. A lot of this food reminds me of my family's cooking. I live in Mira Mesa so the only bummer is that I have a bit of a drive to get there so if you guys are ever expanding, then open up a store down here. Also, my little piece of advice is that sometimes this place has groupon offers too so you can get some savings!

    (5)
  • Anne P.

Food was okay. Place is very small. However the service was pretty good.

    (3)
  • Jane W.

Excellent food. And thats hard for me to say considering my husband is guamanian and can cook up a damn good meal. Right on point. Well.. with the exception of the potato salad. But i wont dock u any stars for that bkus thats just my personal preference and the customer service made up for that. Keep up the good work guys.. double thumbs up. And im glad so many people are being familiarized with the island style.

We went for a late weeknight dinner, arriving just before 8pm. Pros: -some new and different flavors to try -red rice -spam musabi -empanadas -fabulous lumpia -barbeque chicken thighs were delicious Cons: -the wait, oh the wait... we all were about asleep at the table before our food finally came out. Definitely not a good spot for a later dinner with kids in tow. We were hoping for the whole experience to be a little faster. -chicken Kelaguen - not even sure if this is really a con, it wasn't *bad* just not our favorite. -cucumber salad - yuck If we were in the area again we may give it another try - especially for more lumpia.

    (3)
  • Brian B.

This place is amazing! The lumpia comes out fresh, hot and crispy. The Guam Bomb is epic. The ribs are great, the stir fry's great, and all the sides are delicious. I'm sure you can't go wrong with anything you order from Guahan Grill.

    (5)
  • Julie G.

I decided to try this place after reading all the good reviews. I wanted to try something new. The service here was excellent. The waiter kept checking up on us to make sure everything was okay and gave us recommendations. The spam roll and empanadas were delicious. The Chicken Kelaguen however is not really my cup of tea. It is probably just a personal preference. I just did not like the flavor of it. The ribs were kind of dry. I probably won't be coming back here anytime soon.

  • Krystin C.

I love love love this place! My mom, grandma, and I just ate there and they were awesome! They made adjustments accordingly for my grandma who had recently had a hip replacement. Their food was absolutely fantastic! Will definitely go again. We got the Guam Bomb and the Maga Lahi Special, and boy was It special!

  • Stacey R.

My best friend brought me here for dinner last night. I've never had this type of food, but I was expecting something in the neighborhood of Filipino and Hawaiian food. That was pretty much what I got; though it definitely had its own distinct flavor. We ordered spam fried rice (it had a much more interesting name than that on the menu) and a combo meal that included chicken keleguen (spelling???), beef short ribs, a fried empanada, and red rice. Between the two of us, we were stuffed, and we had enough leftovers for another meal. Our server was very friendly and efficient without being overbearing. My receipt came with a discount for a future meal, and I got another offer from Yelp for checking in, so I have all the more reason to go back again!

    (5)
  • Phillip W.

The food was okay, tho a bit pricey. The service was adequate too, but nothing to write home about. But going thru my credit card receipts today, I just noticed the bastards added a buck to the tip I left them. Which was already ~16% -- more than enough for the so-so service we got. I cannot abide credit card thieves. It's not worth my time to fight with them over a dollar. But we'll sure as hell never go back. And it IS worth my time to write this. ;-)

  • Susan N.

Being raised an island child, I had high expectations in this place but was let down. Came in on a Thursday night. Food has an inconsistent taste, some bites salty, next were ehhh... Not sure what's wrong with the cook. Maybe it was a bad day, or his dog just died. Who knows. Lumpia wasn't crispy either- ends were getting there, center was soggy. I felt like I was being tricked into something mean. Spam tasted like it came straight from the can and never touched a pan- the jelly was evident on it. Gross!

A local restaurant that serves quality Chamorron food. You can tell this place is loyal to their customers because they never sacrifice quality for price. Definitely worth visiting if you want to try island food.

    (4)
  • Renata K.

Fun variety on their menu but the food was just OK (the guam bomb was very good, but everything else was pretty "meh"). Nothing so spectacular that I would want to return. The service was good, until the end when we had to wait 15+ minutes for our dessert, banana donuts, (which was bland and boring and the vanilla ice cream was the best part, which I'm sure was store bought & it definitely wasn't worth the wait). Sorry but not a huge fan.

Great. Authentic. Island food. If you're from Guam and missing home, this is where you go! Staff is so friendly and the food never dissapoints

This place is awesome! Food was amazing and great portions for the price. I was going to do the Fried Rice challenge but was not prepared for it. Next time I come in I will definitely be prepared and attempt to conquer the challenge. Service was by far one of the greatest experience. They made me and my friends feel just like family. "Why you gotta be so rude?" was the jam that was playing when we came in but the service was no where near rude at all. Make sure to make some room for dessert. Chocolate Wasted is a must try so definitely save room for that. Thanks to our server Trisha for introducing it to us! I will be back for that fried rice challenge!!!!

Listen, this little spot hits the mark. Craft beers on tap, a small bar, friendly service, and the food is yummy. I love the spam masubi, and the fried chicken thighs with red rice. These guys r doing it right, check them out.

Best Chamorro food in the county, hands down! My boyfriend is half Chamorro, so he grew up with his grandma's amazing cooking (lucky mofo). We came here for the first time after trying Chamorro Grill, Yokoz, and Islander Grill... and this place takes the cake (or the latiya?). My boyfriend says this place truly reminds him of home. My favorite is the chicken kelaguen, while his is the beef ribs. And you gotta get the red rice with fina'denne ont he side always. The service is outstanding; we usually chat it up with our server. And all of the desserts are to die for. What makes me so sad is that we're a 45 minute drive away from here... but a weekend drive to Guahan Grill every few weeks is totally worth it.

Mussels are delicious and so are other entrees. This type of food is not found in many other local restaurants so it's a nice choice for variety.

  • Lynn F.

Checked out this place to see whats all the hype about but, it was not that great... Not at all what I expected... The sauces are very runny, my chicken was very rubbery, the red rice had no flavor and the cucumber salad looked very old, I didn't even bother eating it... It's was pricey for what I got, I can say the lumpia was tasty... I probably will never go back... I'll stick to my L&L barbecue...

Love this place! Food tastes just like home! Every time we get a craving for some chamorro food, we go here! Been to a few Guam restaurants, but this place tops it off. Plus the people are nice. We just moved from Las Vegas to Irvine, so this place is not too far to drive to. Restaurant is clean too.

Chamorro food hard to find in the states. Best chamorro food in the county. Staff very friendly, especially the owner. Also good chill spot for sake or beer. I went when they just opened and I like that it wasn't crowded. I wish they had apigigi

  • Mimi V.

I was not impressed. Lumpia was over cooked, beef very tough and not cooked enough, noodles were delicious, empanadas were over cooked with not enough flavor and the portions were very small considering you have to pay extra for the beef. Also the tab was very expensive considering the quantity and quality wasn't up to par. I wouldn't return based on my experience.

II went here for lunch on Saturday because I was looking for something different than Chinese and Thai (which my lunch partner wanted). Guahan Grill is advertised as Island Fusion. Guahan Grill is small, but they offer table service and have a nice Island theme (and a big screen TV). I was pleasantly surprised at the freshness and flavors of the food! Yum! We had the Shrimp Stir Fry and Guahan Noodles with shrimp. Lots of fresh, crisp, veggies and large, luscious shrimp! the flavors were amazing. The portions were large and the meal was very healthy. I really liked this place and I can't wait to go back and work my way through the menu. You won't be disappointed.

I moved from Guam back to CA last year. I've been craving Chamorro food and...this place hit the spot. I felt like I was back on the island. The Chamorro Fried Rice tasted just like the one at Shirley's. The chicken, red rice and the finadene...made me miss living on the island. We drove from Huntington Beach just to eat here and it was worth the drive. The customer service is just like the friendly people of Guam.

For my first visit, I was completely satisfied. Eating Chamorro (cultural name for people from Guam) food is a treat for me, as I only get to have it around holidays, when I visit the family. I'm half haolie, so this stuff isn't normally on our home menu, haha! This establishment is owned by one of my relatives (so I'm told), but I've heard this sort of stuff all my life, being that most Guamanians are related! If you're wondering, I'm a Cruz, with my grandfather being Fermin Meno Cruz, from Merizo. Chamorro's love to do the family tree thing! Anyways, I ordered the Guahan Plate, and it was just like our families style. A little bit salty, and a little bit savory at the same time. Red rice was good, and pretty standard. Just the way the auntie's make it. The Kelaguen was my favorite, and if you're unfamiliar with Chamorro food, this is our signature food that we introduce to all newcomers. Sort of like Pad Thai for Thai food, or Pho for Vietnamese, or Adobo for Filipino food. Try it. It's ground up grilled chicken, with lemon juice, salt, red peppers, green onions, etc. It's a chunkier version of chicken larb from your thai restaurant, with a bit of smokiness, and a lot more lemon in it. I chose to get the deep fried pork ribs as my meat choice, and it hit the spot I was looking for. They use a similar marinade that my uncle Rol uses, based mainly of soy sauce and perhaps some lemon juice, but they deep fry instead of grilling them. Still good, and crispy I might add. Nice job there. I chose to go with the Cucumber salad as well. This is another unique dish for newcomers, and it is basically quartered cucumbers, in a soy sauce and vinegar juice, with tomatoes. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but it's refreshing. Did I fail to mention that Guamanians like their food salty? Most dishes are on the salty or vinegary, bitter side, and less sweet, but if you're tastebuds like to venture off, then you'll like this spot for sure. It hits the spot for me, and for any other fellow Chamorro's, albeit half, who are looking for their fix of Chamorro food!

I'm Chamorro and I LOVE fiesta plates.....the only problem is, it's a lot of work to pull it all together for myself at home! Finding Guahan Grill is a luxury for me! Most Chamorro's are tough critics because we have delicious food, but I lived in Northern CA. for decades and haven't been able to find a restaurant that served red rice, short ribs and finadene. Luckily for me, I recently moved to the inland empire and now will stroll down to Oceanside to have some Guamanian chow! :) Wish the place was a little bigger though, but the ambiance brings me home....

Um, did I just eat at the same place you'll have reviewed?! This place is NOT good. Let's start with the fact that it's dirty. The tables were dirty, floors were dirty and the walls were dirty and in need of fresh paint. The hubs and I sat down at the table closest to the restrooms, only because it was one of the better tables for viewing the tv, and we were watching game 3 of the world series. But after no more than 10 min at that table we had to move because we both kept getting nasty whiffs of urine/cleaning supplies/dirty water smells which we couldn't determine whether it was coming from the bathroom or the kitchen. The hubs ordered the Guahan special with pork spare ribs and cucumber salad. The pork wasn't as tender as ribs should be and was really salty (pretty much everything was WAY too salty). The cucumber salad was overdressed in soy and almost inedible. The empanada was over fried and dry and the chicken side that came with the dish looked like cat food. I ordered the kadun pika and it tasted nothing like it was described. I was expecting a thicker, creamier sauce because of the coconut milk but I tasted NO coconut- only soy and vinegar. I got half red and half white rice and didn't like the red rice at all. The waitress told me it had a subtle flavor but I couldn't disagree more. And the chicken! Ugh, it was all dark meat (which I like) but was not trimmed of any fat and was rubbery in texture. It was low grade chicken in quality...not quite sure what I was eating. Needless to say we will NOT be back. Way too salty, dirty and just overall not good. By the time we left I felt like I was going to have a heart attack because of my blood pressure from all that salt! Ick.

My first try at this kind of food. It was very good. Crowded - seems like the locals must have figured it out. Small place not a lot of seating, get there early!

The clam chowder was the best I ever had! The grilled fish taco was not very interesting.

I want so much to like this place. Especially because they got jacked with a horrible location and crappy mall entrance. But that's not their fault- damn you Oceanside Planners! After watching an amazing drum corps competition at a nearby high school, my Pinoy took Ares and me to Guahan Grill. Who are these people called Chamorros and what do they have to offer my tastebuds? Never had Guamanian food so I was super excited; also, I love love love Filipino food; and i heard it was pretty close, so I was super DUPER excited! When we arrived it was just in time for HH- 50% off appetizers and adult drinks. I ordered the Sangria, which tasted like "Top O' the Line Wine" Carlos Rossi and Sprite, with an orange wedge. Eh. My Pinoy got a beer (good thinking), and Ares got a virgin milk. If my Pinoy and I spawned a food baby, I would name it Kadun Pika. That's exactly what I ordered. Imagine Chicken Adobo with coconut milk, onions and Thai chilies. The first few bites were DELISH. Then I noticed my mouth getting numb. There was so much soy sauce and vinegar. I LOVE anything with the soy-vinegar combo, but this was too much. I tried lil ninja's fried rice and my Pinoy's ribs and veggies... all salty. So maybe it was a bad night. Maybe we got there too late and the chefs were tired. I don't know. What I do know is that i'm willing to give Guahan another go. I want so much to like this place.

Tried this place based on the reviews and I was in heaven!!! Small little restuarant that you can sit down or take to go. Very clean, new plaza I think ,and their portions are ridiculously huge! Friendly staff and great food! Empanadas are huge and tasty. I got the special plate and it came with their fried ribs, chicken, beef, and red rice on the side is what I got. The red rice like everyone said is incredible. I ate and was stuffed...I took the rest to go and looked like I didnt put a dent in my food. The dish comes with this soy sauce dip that they make and I could just drink that sauce. Oh spam roll was amazing! Very similar to spam masubi but it has cucumbers and spicy mayo ans is just delicious! They have a few tv's there if you want to watch a game and a bar. They have a few beers on tap which is neat and different from other mini restaurants. I can usually find parking outside at this plaza though it is fairly new. You can find some other restaurants in the plaza that are fairly new but why the heck would you go there?!

Grade A inspected. Very clean and neat. NFL & NBA games are frequently played on tv. They also have draft beer at the bar. Enjoy great tasting island food and a piece of Guam in NCSD.

Guahan Grill is a one of a kind gem if you want something different and not very common. Despite having a handful of Chamorro friends, I have never had authentic Chamorro food so I had to make a trip here. This is only one of two Chamorro restaurants in SD county that I know of and my friend ( who grew up with a Chamorro family and has eaten at the other restaurant) said this is the closest he has had to homemade style food. I am Filipino and found the food to be very similar to Filipino food. My entire group ordered the fried ribs, I in particular ordered with sauteed vegetables and red rice. I didn't know you could fry ribs, but anything tastes good fried if you ask me! Taste was not what I expected but good nonetheless. The marinade had hints of either soy sauce and/or teriyaki, garlic, and ginger with a hint of salt. The red rice is delicious, reminded me of a mix of Filipino style garlic fried rice and spicy Mexican rice and went well with the ribs. The vegetable mix of broccoli, onions, and zucchini was sauteed to perfection. It was a very well rounded meal! The decor is a nice tropical decor although it is pretty small, They also have gameday specials for Charger and Padre games, I definitely want to try but don't know how they fit so many people in there. I will definitely be back to try more menu items as well.

Check your credit card receipt after your bill posts. These people cheat and try to add tip to your bill after it's signed. A review, also here in Yelp, showed that in April, they also did this (added more tip amount) to another customer who already tipped them 16%...will not be going back.

Chicken Kelaguen "key la win" 5/5 Boneless BBQ chicken 4/5 Beef Short Ribs 4/5 Pork Spare Ribs 4/5 Red Rice 3/5 Potato Salad 3/5 Spam Rice 2/5 Empanada 2/5 Overall great food at great portions. Place has a real good vibe. The staff is friendly. Food comes out quickly. All three BBQ items are tasty. The red rice is nothing special but better than steamed white rice. Potato salad was nothing special. The empanada was stiff and lacked real flavor and minimum stuffing. The rice with spam was the disappointment overall. It was fired with a little soy with fried spam. Something you can make better at home. The restaurant menu has more items than the online menu. Give this place a try. Definitely worth a revisit.

I love this place! We drove 106 miles to eat here because I was craving Chamorro food. The empanadas were probably one of my favorites. I'd/we'd definitely make this drive again. Haven't tried everything, but did eat quite a bit, and took some for dinner. Their finadene is like what you would make at home. :) Looking forward to trying the fried fish next time. We'll be back!

This place was so good and I was craving the chicken kelaguen and empanadas so much that I went back the day after I first tried the place. It also helped that the fiance was envious and wanted to try the food for himself as well. We went on a Saturday afternoon with one other friend and used my Yelp Check-In to get a free order of lumpia. SWEET! The lumpia was fresh, very hot and the dipping sauce was a good compliment. To start us off, they brought us a plate of sliced papaya and pickled daikon to munch on which was a very nice touch. They also brought the fina'deni' this time around. Our waitress was really great too! I ordered an assortment of items since I already knew how the Guahan Special with beef short ribs tasted like (delicious). I ended up trying the Chamorro Wings, Chicken Kelaguen appetizer with red rice instead of tortillas and an order of Empanadas. The Chamorro Wings were not exactly what my mind had fantasized about but they were good to say the least. You get about 12 or 13 wings for one appetizer order. The Chicken Kelaguen was fantastic as usual!!!! LOVE IT! Empanadas were hot, fresh and wonderfully satisfying. :) My fiance ordered the Chamorro Style Fried Chicken with red rice and potato salad. He said that the chicken was good but he wanted something more crispy and moist inside. He also had to add mayo to his leftover potato salad when we got home to make it more creamy and less dry. Our friend ordered the Chamorro Style Fried Ribs which were a little more charred than the rest of our barbequed items. Our friend said that the portions are great since they're so big but his ribs were too salty on the outside. The inside of the ribs however were moist and flavorful according to him. Speaking of portions, Guahan grill has awesome portions for the price and also compared to other chamarro eateries. Count on leftovers every time! I had mine for lunch, breakfast, lunch and dinner on two consecutive days! It's like a special treat in my fridge waiting until for me to get home. :) Thank you!

My boyfriend and I were missing Chamorro food (being Guamanians and all, how could you NOT crave this. Actually, you don't even need to be from the island to love the food...) I wish this place wasn't so far...but every time it's worth the drive! Their servers are attentive and the food is very, very delicious! I am a huge fan of their chicken kelaguen and barbecue chicken. This, aside from my mom's kitchen, serves the best Chamorro food in San Diego!

One of our favorite places for chicken dishes. Small place with great service. Grilled chicken salad is huge and delicious. Shrimp ceviche is a must have and noodle dishes won't disappoint. Great beer selections and the only downfall is they are closed on Mondays.

Easily 5 stars... Anytime we visit the SD/Carlsbad area - this place is a must! AND the MUST is the Chamorro Fried Ribs with the red rice...! LOVE. The service and ambience is great and the food is BOMB. Definitely utilize the Finadene sauce mixed with the Donne chilies!

was totalt worth it! food was very good, nice simple menu. i had never had kelaguen before ( a little to tart for my taste and I was surprised it was served cold) but it was good to try something new. their yelp special (my friend got) looked good with the fried rice. we shared the banana donuts but i could have ordered one of everything off their desert menu

I knew fInadene wasn't soup but it was so good I was holding the little bowl up to my mouth drinking it like soup! LOL! The sweet waitress kindly told me it wasn't soup. We ordered the Maga Lahi special and I shared it with my girlfriend. We had some BBQ chicken and Beef Shortribs and it was all delicious. The chicken was moist and lots of meat on the ribs. This was my first time eating Guamanian food. I wanted to tell everyone they need to eat at Guahan Grill! It is a casual restaurant and clean. My girlfriend is Chamoro/Guamanian and she said they are Authentic and her favorite restaurant in SoCal! I had the Pear flavored Sake and wanted more it was so good. Also e chicken Kelaguen and empanadas. There was a few of us so I was able to try all kinds of food and it was all good! We are actually going today because after reading these reviews, I'm hungry for Guahan Grill!! YOU MUST EAT HERE!! I would be shocked to read a poor Yelp review. We spoke to the owner and he was great!! Price is good for the portion! We surprisingly, had leftovers. We just couldn't eat another bite it was so good! I recommend them opening another restaurant in Southern San Diego. :-)

I wandered in here hungry one day and was looking through the menu and realized, omg, they have finedini sauce here. I lived on Guam for two wonderful years, and the food here makes me feel like I'm on island again. Keep up the great work!

As to my word, I returned with friends. Im just trying to figure out what took so long to get back there! This time we tried the kelaguen sampler, local menu chicken sandwich and the J's baked fish. Everything was wonderful and baked fish was amazing. Our waitress was awesome. She was working all alone in a full restaurant and had ot down. She took care of everyone! We didnt have to ask for ANYTHING!

Absolutely LOVE this place!!! My second time here...it was recommended to me by a good friend... I brought my husband here for the 1st time for lunch the other day and he LOVED it!!! He had the Chamorro fried ribs with cucumber salad and rice...and kept saying he was full but yet kept eating till he cleared the plate(now let me add that its not a small portion), I had the chicken fried rice special and 4 lumpia sharing with the hubby(I went home with more than half left)...DELICIOUS!!! Besides the food being great the employees are just as great!!! Great food, Great service, Great atmosphere!!!

I came by for lunch and tried the 50 cent lumpia. It was pretty tasty. I prefer the big fat chicken egg rolls at P.F. Changs. The lumpia had great crunch on the outside but I prefer more goodies on the inside. These lumpia are much smaller than egg rolls and there was not enough beef in each bite. I also had the fried ribs. They turned out pretty good. It was like a third of a slab of pork ribs. There was good pork flavor and it was pretty tender. Lastly I sampled the french fries and chicken tenders. The french fries were fresh and standard size with the skin left on. Pretty good. Loved the chicken tenders! They were really juicy inside and the batter and marinade worked well together.

Delivers and hits the spot for my Guahan food craving. Barbecue is great. The kelaguen sampler - fish, shrimp and chicken - is cool, but of course my taste gravitates naturally to chicken kelaguen. I wasn't as fond of their poke tuna, it was a bit bland and lacking the spice.

Damn, I never knew what Chamorro food was until I found this place through Yelp, thank you Yelpers for once again coming through and helping find a dank ass spot to grub(x ATTENTION MEAT LOVERS: This place is for you! I had the plate the plate that all three types of meats -pork ribs, beef ribs, grilled chicken, red rice, fish kelaguen, an empanada, and two sides I believe. All of this for under $20, honestly this plate is enough for two people to share. I consider myself a good eater, and even I thought this was way too much food, I wanted to finish it all but I couldn't =/ haha I had two beef ribs, a pork rib, and a side of steamed broccoli the next day for leftovers (which were still bomb BTW) The atmosphere of the restaurant is mad laid back, it has an island feel to it (obviously) and the reggae music they had playing made it even better, 5 stars for that as well as the food. They also have $3 beers during happy hour ("winning!" charlie sheen voice). I definitely recommend this place to anyone if that has an affinity for grilled meats and for nice, chill vibes. I wish I still worked by this place ;( ha, next time on my way back from Long Beach to Escondido, I'll be sure to make a pit stop here at Guahan Grill.

3.5 stars. Decided to stop by on our way back to SD from LA because we were craving some BBQ and red rice. We got there 5-10 minutes before closing so the place was almost empty. We felt bad because I'm sure they weren't too thrilled about having to serve customers a few minutes before closing. We took our order to go. We tried to use our Groupon, but unfortunately, the fine print read for dine-in only. We ordered two Local Deluxe meals, which came with one choice of meat (chicken, short ribs, spare ribs), one lumpia, and two sides (white rice, red rice, cucumber salad, potato salad, green salad, steamed vegetables, stir-fry vegetables). We also ordered a Guahan Special which came with one choice of meat, chicken kelaguen, empanada, and two sides. The prices were comparable to Island Grill, which is the other Chamorro establishment in the San Diego area. The serving sizes are also comparable (although, some people say Guahan Grill gives bigger portions). We were disappointed to hear that they were out of red rice because their rice cooker was acting up. Minus one star. The short ribs were a bit salty and greasy. I did enjoy the chicken as it was tender. The chicken kelaguen was tasty as well. Servings were generous; I was able to eat my meal in two sittings. I will probably be back to use my Groupon, however, until they move to a more convenient location, i won't be a frequent flyer here.

First time I tried this place I thought it was ok but nothing special. Think they must have a new chef or have tweaked their recipes because this last time was sooooo tasty. Had the chamorro fried chicken and the fried rice. Very well seasoned, chicken very tender. Big plus is that the service is so fast and friendly and prices not too high.

I've never had Guamanian food before so when a friend of mine told me she was bringing me some I was excited to try something new, I love an adventure. She arrived with some bbq short ribs, red rice and cucumber salad. Portions are big and enough for two meals and the smell immediately made my mouth water, I was super giddy at that point and couldn't wait to dig in. Like I've said before I never had Guam food before but I have had short ribs in the past and consider myself quite adept at recognizing quality good food when I see/eat it. The ribs are slice thicker than normal short ribs so you get much more meat on them, they are amazingly tender, melt in your mouth tender, and then the marinade/sauce kicks in and instantly delivers a mouth full sweet, salty, vinegary flavors that are very pleasing to the palate. The red rice was good, I added a bit of the sauce to it because even though it looks cool it lacks the punch of flavor that the ribs deliver. The cucumbers are fresh and crispy and mine came with a lumpia style egg roll that was a nice appetizer for the meal. I would definitely recommend this place over some of the Hawaiian places around in Oceanside much better flavors and same portions size for the same price.

My boyfriend LOVES this place and has turned me into a fan as well! I always get the Chicken fried rice w no egg. So HUGE and so good! He gets the chicken and red rice. And wow the ride rice is awesome!!!! Recently tried the corn soup which has a coconut broth! It was pretty delicious. Lumpia and empanadas is our go to appetizers which are also yummy.. Nothing but good things here! Must try.

WOW!!!! If I could give 6 stars, I would. Ate here last night, first time having the cuisine of Guam and cannot believe I haven't had it sooner. In fact, as I write this review, my mouth is salivating!! mmmmmmmmmm My wife and I shared their combo plate, which the owner Carl recommended and it was amazing. Carl the owner was super nice guy, and the rest of the staff seemed the same. Eat here, come here often, keep this kind of food in our neighborhood!! Forget the chains, keep your money locally and with owners like this. We will make this a place we come again and again.

We came all the way from Las Vegas to experience Guahan Grill in Oceanside. We were in Oceanside for only a few days and we wanted to make every moment of our experience count. Carlos delivered amazing dishes, a fun atmosphere and superb service -- they really go out of their way to provide a welcoming feel and that attention to detail translates in their food too!

OH. MY. GOD. Friend and I came here for lunch after about a year or so of talking about this place. She is from Guam, so she picked out what we would eat for lunch. We started off with Lumpia (always a favorite) and they were at .50/each which isn't too bad IMO. We also had some pickled guava and horseradish- I was a fan of the latter; the former was just too adventurous for me :-p Our entree was the Guahan special which included Chicken Kelaguen, an empanada, and our choice of a side and meat (we picked pork ribs and red rice and cucumber salad). Everything tasted like it had lemon spritzed on it which is finei by me. My friend also asked for finadene (sp?) which is a mixture of soy sauce and lemon with diced green onion which we put on our rice and chicken kelaguen for a nice added flavor. We washed out lunch down with King Car iced tea. I can't say anything bad about this place! The service was great, the price was reasonable since we split everything, and everything tasted amazing. I now see why my friend comes here when she misses her mother's cooking, and I'm sad that its taken me this long to come try out the food.

Ahhh we meet again! Trying the fried chicken this time and love the empanadas ordered extra. Got the hubby his short ribs fav! Staff is always friendly. Love this laid back atmosphere and the island music in the background, would love to come here often but this drive from San Diego ain't no joke. Hopefully they put one down south cause the one Guamanian place we have sucks.

Having ate there a couple times and ordered lumpia for a gathering, we decided to order the Mahi laga special to go. Husband called it in, I picked it up. The entire meal was horrible which totally surprised us. The chicken was burnt and dry, the meat was tough, difficult to chew. We threw it out. It was as if we got what was over cooked and put aside for someone like is to call in for take out. We could have spent $21 somewhere else and had double the food that they gave us. Needless to say, we will not go there again.

I've been wanting to go to this place for awhile. The first time I went was at night and there were no people in there. Decided to hold off and went there for a Sunday lunch- lot more people there second time around. The Filipino side of me decided to order the spam and portuguese sausage plate with a fried egg on the side :] It was really tasty. Just like home. Boyfriend ordered the fried rice with chicken. The chicken portions were generous delicious. Will definitely come back there.

Went here 2 days in a row! My hubby was kind enough to give in to me and let me have a piece of home twice. The first day, I ordered the kadun pika; medium spicy. They use boneless chicken breasts and it was delicious. My hubby (he's not from Guam) didn't really like the sourness to it, but I liked it. The 2nd day I got the Guahan Special which included one choice of meat (chicken, short ribs, or spare ribs), chicken kelaguen, empanada and 2 sides for $12.25. Its a pretty good deal! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the fish kelaguen...it didn't taste quite like I'm used too, which is spicier and more vinegary. But, I'm definitely coming back if I'm ever in the area again.

Excellent customer service. Two of us getting lunch, had appetizers (lumpia and empanadas) and he had the plate with ribs, rice (we had red- they also have a white)and a side (cucumber salad). Food was ok. Not bad but just not what I am interested in. The desert menu looks really good. I'd go back for desert.

LUMPIA: A bit on the sweet side but still good. BEEF SHORT RIBS: DELICIOUS! Generous portions, juicy and tender meat. CHICKEN KELAGUEN: AWESOME! Just the right amount of tartness to make the taste buds happy. EMPANADA: Just okay. It's almost like biting into a fried tortilla. Filling was okay. MOM'S COOKIES FOR DESSERT: SOOOO GOOD! The cookies are chocolate chip, soft, and warm served with two scoops of French Vanilla ice cream. **Ask for a side of Fenadeni Sauce. The flavor is spot-on!** The overall atmosphere is pretty chill with Islander music playing. They have a decent happy hour special and a very cool staff. The location is a little out of the way but I'd definitely come back for my Guamanian fix. Since Yokozuna in Chula Vista has unfortunately gone downhill, I'm glad I found a new go-to spot.

We were driving by just looking for a new place to try and happened upon Guahan Grill. We were instantly drawn in by the laid back atmosphere and kind staff. We truly enjoyed our meals and want to come back to try their banana donut dessert. Yum! I am only giving it four stars instead of five because our meals came out at different times, which was kind of weird, and because I want to come back and try something different and see if all their food is as good as the grilled fish. We started with the FISH KELAGUEN, spicy but very yummy! Great flavor. I had the grilled salmon, which was moist and FABULOUS! with steamed veggies and their red rice. My husband had their Locals Deluxe with the beer short ribs, steamed veggies and red rice. He loved it but wished he ordered what I got. :)

The BBQ meats are the star of the show and it is not even close. The BBQ chicken, short and pork ribs all have great flavor, and are great. I would order them anytime and be really happy with that meal. Some of the other dishes are good, but there is room for improvement. Most of the sides are ok, but in order for this place to get 5 stars they would have to live up to the standards of the BBQ meats. The service is friendly and attentive, and they are very helpful in guiding people who are new to the right dish for them. Overall I am definitely going to go back, as the BBQ is that good.

Pretty decent but need to try it again..... Chicken kelaguen: Chopped barbecue chicken mixed with lemon, green onions and hot pepper. Choice of tortillas or rice, of course I went with rice. This was tasty and refreshing. However, my bro found a short wavy hair in it that obviously didn't belong to him or myself. Not so refreshing. But our waiter was sweet and apologetic to bring us a new plate and took it off our bill. Kadun pika: Chicken simmered with onions, garlic, hot pepper, coconut milk, vinegar, and soy sauce. Served over white or red rice. This basically tasted like Filipino chicken adobo, not sure where the coconut milk comes in bc I didn't see or taste any of it. I liked this enough, but I like salty foods. If you were to serve this to someone else, they prob would think this was waaaay too salty. The red rice was yummy. Chamorro style fried chicken: Boneless skinless chicken thighs soaked in our special marinade then deep fried. Served with rice and one side item. This was yummy, don't remember what my bro ordered for the side. Spam and portuguese sausage bowl: A few slices of spam, couple slices of portuguese sausage, rice and eggs cooked how you like them. Only ordered this because we had a few dollars left on my living social voucher. Nothing wow here but can't go wrong with this if you're in the mood for this traditional brekkie dish. Place is clean and simple, service was great, ample parking and I will def. come back for a second try.

I have no idea where to start, I LOVE this place! Awesome food and service. The large portions you get with your meal do not reflect the price. This place is ridiculously affordable. My bf and I went here one day on a serious budget, spent less than 20 bucks AND even had to take some extra food home. They have an excellent selection of fruit infused sake. I highly recommend this place! In fact, sign off of Facebook, or Yelp, or whatever, turn off your computer and go there...now.

I try to stay away from American franchised restaurants because I feel like we have too many of them and not enough that are family-owned. This is Southern California where we're known for diverse people, awesome weather, and a Starbucks or franchised restaurants in almost every corner... and it's not that I mind the franchise restaurants so much; I prefer the diversity and friendly atmosphere that many smaller restaurants have established for themselves. Like for example, I love the Mexican "whatever-bertos" restaurants that are scattered EVERYWHERE in San Diego, and thankfully they're not all the same. They usually have something to die for (and sometimes to die with) like their California Burritos, Carne Asada Fries, Rolled tacos, Quesadillas... you name it. But the point I'm trying to make is the proprietor of the -bertos pack really made an impact in my life and led me away from Big Macs and Gordita Supremes. To the leader(s) that represent those restaurants, I applaud you guys for serving us authentic breakfast burritos with chipotle sauce available 24 hours every single day. Anyway... about a year ago a friend of mine tells me I should go and try out this Guahan Grill restaurant in Oceanside. It's obviously not the first time I've ignored her opinions and recommendations... but that's not really important. However, what IS important is a few days ago I found myself in this restaurant, and now she won't even return my calls anymore. It's like one of those times where you really feel like you should have listened to your peers, but instead you doze off somewhere else only to find out you missed out on a year of what could have been the most significant event of your life. Guahan Grill, there's not many restaurant owners that do what you guys do. Let me begin by telling you that this place serves beer and sake, and has a big TV showcasing sports... It's a sign that immediately tells you the restaurant owners know what they're doing. There are little visuals here and there that show appreciation of what the culture of Guam is like. I've never been to Guam personally, and this place will not take you to Guam no matter how many times you close your eyes and tap your feet... but you will feel appreciated that the restaurant has a pride for where they're from. I sat down at the bar and ordered the Guahan Special with chicken and short ribs... and it came with a bunch of sides like rice, chicken kelaguen, cucumber salad, and an empanada. They call it a meal. I call it a Guam-thanksgiving feast on a plate, because that's exactly how I felt after barely eating half of it. The BBQ chicken was cooked perfectly, and the short ribs were delicious... I can probably eat the chicken kelaguen by itself... and even the cucumber salad wasn't as salty as some Yelpers have mentioned. It could have just been me, but if you don't want to take a risk you have other sides to choose from. As far as the service goes, they're really cool and they seem like a big family treating their customers like real guests... they were happy, and even thanked me for my business. The only thing that really upset me was that I didn't learn any Chamorro, but my goal is to walk out of there next time knowing how to say words like "hello" and "that's what she said". So now we got the hundreds of American franchises, the dozens of -bertos pack, and the one known Guam place that stands out in all of North County. Because the food and culture is so authentic, I think this is what the people of San Diego really need. If you haven't already been here, you really need to give this place a shot. And to the folks at Guahan Grill, I will definitely see you next week.

This is a good place to go for dinner. When I went on a weekend evening, it wasn't too busy. There was a table for me when I arrived, I didn't have to sit at the bar. The service was a little on the slow side. I almost wondered if I was forgotten about at the beginning, but as time went on, the service got better. The spam roll is very good. It's very basic: seaweed, spam, rice, cucumbers, and spicy mayo. If you go by yourself, this roll might be filling enough for you (if you eat like a bird), but if you eat like a teradactyl (like I do sometimes) or everything on the menu looks good, you'll end up ordering more food than you can really eat. My only recommendation is if you generally don't eat things that are very salty, ask them to put extra cucumbers in the roll because it can get a little on the salty side depending on how much spam and how little cucumbers are in a certain area of the roll. Besides the spam roll, I had the grilled fish and lumpia. The lumpia was good, crunchy, not burn your tongue hot, but just the right amount of heat so you know it's fresh. The lumpia is also not oily. You know when sometimes you order fried food and it looks, feels, and tastes like it's swimming in oil, this is NOT it. The grilled fish (salmon) was delicious, but a bit on the salty side. I finished almost all of my red rice because I think there was a little too much soy sauce on it. But, it was very tasty, maybe next time I will order it with less soy sauce. Their cucumber salad is not your typical creamy cucumber salad. It's actually marinated in soy sauce base, so it has a nice savory taste. The soy sauce definitely cuts the watery sometimes bland tasting cucumbers, so it's a nice balance. Watch out for the pieces of cucumber salad that look like they have been soaking up all the soy sauce because those pieces can be a bit salty. Overall, I thought this place was ok. The service started out slow, but as I said before, the service got better. The food I found a bit on the salty side, but may also be me because I don't eat salty things very often (I do love spam though). I will definitely be back to try their spam fried rice, spam and Portugese sausage bowl, and some other dishes that caught my eyes.

Had the fried ribs which honestly were tougher than I would have liked. Spouse had the regular pork ribs which were better and juicier. Empanadas were ok - a bit too fried to a crisp for my taste. Overall didn't live up to the other rave reviews.

Another pit stop on the SoCal road trip and definitely a great spot for local grind food. Family owned and operated, which I always love to support and the staff was super friendly. They explained their menu and the popular items and away we went. I ordered the salmon with steam veggies and the red rice. It was excellent!! A little pricey, but the fish was fresh and moist and portions are big. Coming back if I'm ever in this neck of the woods.

I followed my friend's driving directions, full of confusion and doubt. The directions had led me to some extremely empty office/wharehouse buildings. I wasn't sure if I was being led to a restaurant or the site of my mafia execution. But hidden in the monotonous office buildings, I saw smoke rise. No, this was not the result of arson. The fragrance of grilled chicken said otherwise. I followed the smoke to the tropical gem of Guahan's. My students love going to this hidden place because of their chicken bowl that is only $4 bucks for students, and topped with their spicy/sour soy sauce, makes a crowd of very happy students. And let's be clear- their "bowl" is huge. With two huge balls as big as the nuclear power plant on the way to San Clemente and chicken grilled right outside, how could one say that this wasn't a good deal? I treated myself once to their short ribs, and they said there'd be 6 short ribs... but I got 10. I can't complain about that. The service is great as well. One of my friends came who was vegetarian, and they made up a dish on the spot for her. The next time we went, she brought a pack of firm tofu and asked them to make something with it. They looked at it with raised eyebrows, shrugged, and proceeded to make some (great) fried rice. In general, the workers are friendly and relaxed. Although I approached this place with much caution, this has become one of those hidden treasures you'd never expect to find in a business park. If I were to be executed by the mafia, i'd wouldn't mind requesting Guahan Grill as my last meal before they killed me next door.

Four of us went out to eat and decided to try this new place Guahan Grill. We were dissapointed. Out of the four dishes served 2 were ok. One of our party ordered a dish that was described as BBQ chicken mixed with rice and spices. When it came out it was a small bowl of what looked like cold cat food. It tasted about what it looked like. We thought they had gotten his order wrong when all he received was a small cold bowl and a plate with 5 stale tortillas on it. It apparently was suppose to be cold and gross. The best part was the young awkward confused waiter brought his dish out 15 minutes before any of the other dishes. Two of the dishes that were eventually served (30 minutes after ordering) were pretty good. One was a noodle dish with chicken and the other was simple BBQ chicken with rice. It was called The Bowl. When the three dishes came out the waiter brought a pile of utensils and napkins and unceremoniously dropped them on the table. So we set our own table with napkins and utensils. That was common to the whole restaurant just chairs and tables no place settings and certainly no flair. It looked like they could pack up the whole place in 30 minutes and you would never know it existed. The only savior was they had Shocktop cheap on tap. In the end we all agreed that there was no reason why this restaurant was reviewed so well.

I am Guamanian/Filipino, raised mostly with my Chamorro side and Proud Of IT! 8D For those of You that know and love Chamorro food, you will Love this place. Before I ate at this place, I've been wanting to eat there for quite a while. I just never made time to go. Finally on my way back down to SD from LA I decided to try it out, and I was impressed! Being a Chamorrita (Guamanian Girl) I know what to look for as far as taste and ingredients. Not exactly like Mom and Pops, but pretty darn close. If You haven't tried them out, go and try Guahan Grill.

Outstanding! We had a multi-generation of folks at the dinner, and everyone enjoyed their meals. (A rarity.) Ribs were fall off the bone tender, but with a crusty outside. Excellent. I had the roasted fish in a spicy coconut sauce. Also excellent (could have been just a bit moister on the inside - but I would order again in a second.) And, on top, its a fascinating meal telling the history of the islands. Empanada's from Spanish influence, Spring rolls from the overseas Chinese influence, island flavors and fish, even Japanese inspired meals. The red rice with the soy sauce topping was a revelation. And the banana donuts with vanilla ice cream really brought the whole experience together. It's a bit of a commitment to get there from downtown Oceanside or Carlsbad - but the food is great, and people are very nice. So, very well worth the visit. I'll be thinking about this meal for a while.

The best island BBQ I have had. If you ask yourself red rice and deep fried ribs?! SAY YES!!! This is one of my regular restaurants I go to which is very rare. Love to go here for the pick me up. If you go once 98% you WILL go again please enjoy!

Tried this place for the first time this weekend on our way up to the L.A. area. I am half Chamorro but have never been a huge fan of Chamorro food (at least not kelaguen which I know everyone loves). But my boyfriend and I were so impressed with the food! We ordered Chamorro fried rice w/spam, kadun pika, chicken kelaguen, and banana doughnuts. It was excellent! I really enjoyed the food here, definitely worth a 30 minute drive up to try it. They serve the grilled chicken kelaguen as an appetizer and with tortillas as you will see in the picture. The Chamorro fried rice with spam was very tasty (a little salty for my tastes but that's because Spam is salty. It would be better if they switched to a lower sodium Spam especially if they are combining with soy sauce - too salty) and they give you a 1-3 scale of hotness when you order the Kadun Pika. We ordered a 2 and it was perfect. I noticed that this Kadun Pika had a light coconut flavor to it. Oh and let me not forget the banana doughnuts with ice cream...that was my favorite part of the meal! They were firm and crispy and heavenly with the ice cream! We thought everything was so tasty! We loved it! There is another Chamorro food place in San Diego, but I personally liked Guahan much better and will definitely be back to Guahan Grill as well as trying to re-create the meals at home because getting to Oceanside from where we live in downtown San Diego can be inconvenient. Wish there was a location closer to San Diego!

When I arrived the lady who helped me asked if this was my first time and I did say yes. Lady was very nice and seemed genuine in helping me find recommendations. But that was the only good experience the food is not so good. Local Deluxe with Short Rib - Too Salty and the meat was so tough I couldn't eat it. As if they used the microwave to re-heat the food and nuked it. Ended up trashing this dish. Chamorro Fried Rice - This was okay but once again way too salty for my taste. Chamorro Fried Chicken - I thought this was not too bad but the cucumber salad that came with it was soggy. Kadun Pika - I thought this dish was good. I liked the spicey kick it had and the flavors. Over all verdict. If your the type to go to a Chinese restaurant and put tons of Soy Sauce on your rice you might like this place. The food over all is just to salty for me! I noticed alot of the reviews mention the food being too salty. To me this place uses salt like its going extinct. This was my first experience at a place like this maybe salt is how they do it but its not for me.

Disappointed considering there are so-ooo many reviews. kelaguen: first, it's cold! It's like shredded cold meat. That's how it's supposed to be but not sure I'm a fan guahan noodles: udon noodles stir-fried with veggies and meat....ugh, heavy with something like teriyaki sauce. One plus, the service staff is very friendly.

I was at Guahan Grill last week after a big disappointment eating at Chamorro Grill. A friend recommended this place and I'm glad I went! Finadene and red rice hit a home run. Empanadas were delicious! Crispy, greasy, and good portion of chicken and rice just like I remember growing up ;) The kelaguen was so good! It has a good balance of heat, lemon, and I can actually taste the chicken flavor (too bad no coconut shred on it). I ordered the happy hour price of lumpias. It was "ok", I had tasted better versions. The bbq pork ribs and short ribs almost tasted like I remember back in Guam. Chamorro Grill's short ribs tasted more like Korean version (I didn't order pork ribs). Last but not least, I ordered the banana donuts and it was dry and banana flavor was very suttle. More bananas please! I will definitely return when I'm back in town. I was told a second location will open up in SD! Yay!

Guahan Grill was a very good recommenation from a friend, this was my first time vist and all I can say is the food was excellent!!! The Restraunt had a nice and simple, CA casual, beachy vibe atmosphere. The service was great and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive they act as if they genuinely care that you are happy there, like family. I feel lucky to have this gem of an establishment in my own back yard/ city. I recommend the Keleguin Chicken WOW the flavor burst in your mouth,,, soooo good! I got the sampler plate so I could try it all at once and we cleaned the plates of all. This place leaves you wanting more and makes you look forward to the next visit which I will return and I will recommend to all my friends and family to try. If you like suttle spicy food with a unique flavor Guahan Grill in Oceanside is the place to go.

If you've never tried Guamanian food, get your butt(s) up here!!! My hubby was dying to try this place out...I was the less-than-enthusiastic participant, along for the ride. Now I may be the one dragging him back for a 2nd visit. Have to agree with Travis T. on his description of Carlos...very low key, super attentive, gave us lots of info about the basics of Chamorro food, helpful in deciding what to order, and ready with refills on our drinks before we'd even drained our glasses. My hubby had the Maja Lahi (?? the chef's plate)...a huge platter piled high with beef short ribs, chicken, and pork, red rice, cucumber salad, an empanada, and a bowl of chicken kelaguen. The chicken and pork were melt-in-the-mouth tender. I found the short ribs a bit too "vinegar-y", but that's the way my husband likes them. As for the kelaguen, my husband said it was one of the best he's ever had (and it's one of his favorite dishes). He has a huge appetite, and still took some of his food home for leftovers. I ordered the Udon Noodle stir-fry with chicken. Was so stuffed after eating only half, so took the rest home for another meal. Udon noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce was splendid, and the broccoli and zucchini were still crisp and flavorful. Definitely coming back....and bringing friends along next time.

I'm a big fan of their fenadeni sauce (I pretty much bathed everything in this sauce before consumption!), chicken and shrimp kelaguen, red rice and their beef short ribs. Mmmmm!! Other acknowledgements: friendly service, clean establishment, cool/island vibe. But let's be honest here, even if they didn't have all that, you'd be coming back for more of this delicious guamanian food because their menu is oh so yum. My only complaint is that they're a bit pricey (lunch and dinner prices are the same and for the good stuff you're looking to pay $7 -$12). But I come here for seriously/"I'm not kidding!" TASTY food all the way from San Diego or Irvine. A long drive does not stand in the way of me making my tummy happy. Nuff said.

Been hearing about this place for awhile now, so I had to try it out...Everything on the menu sounded good, but I had to try the infamous Guam Bomb that I keep hearing about..It was bomb for sure!Fries topped w/ bbq chicken, grilled onions, melted cheese, bbq sauce and spicy mayo oh my..I thought the price was very reasonable considering the portion..I was only able to eat half of it..The service was awesome, the girl that was working there kept checking on us to make sure our drinks were full and that everything was good. I have to say service was excellent! Going back to try out the other items, soon! Highly recommend this place!

The Oceanside cafe has nice atmosphere, you walk in there chill music playing you sit down come to find a simple but unique menu of Guam classics. I had the local special with pork ribs and a side of vegetables was so damm good. It was unique and fresh each item on the plate pairs well with each other.

This spot is the "Guam Bomb"! First time here but definitely wanna come back and try other dishes. Everything sounds so good! The food was outstanding! The service was fast and efficient. Our waitress was super nice! Everything was fairly priced. And they played reggae music which made my experience even more lovely. If you eat here, you won't be disappointed.

Favorite food! Best friends and I love this place just because, well because of everything! Though being raised Cham style I still and always will love their food! So delicious they have the best rendition of the usual California fries and created a much better, flavorful, and tasteful GUAM BOMB! Literally it's the bomb! Their pricing is very affordable, you can order a great meal for less than $10 and be full! The flavored of this island themed restaurant is just the best, and surely without a doubt "won of a doubt"!!! Well next time your in Oceanside take a tour and come on out to the best Guamanian flavor food house! Rate:(beyond my scale) 50000

Good, unique food for a faster-food joint. I've visited twice now, and still satisfied. Noot overly pricy, but a bit much for this type of food. They make up for it with a good variety of cultural cuisine.

AMBIANCE: I came here because this place was highly recommended to me by one of my good friend, but my experience here was not as amazing as his. Walking in, the decor was very warming with tropical sunset images. This little place was clean too. We came in with a party of 14, I admit that is a big party for our waitress who only started 2 weeks ago. She was the only server, every other worker was in the back. SERVICE: Our waitress was doing great in the beginning, getting everyone water and taking our appetizer orders. When it came to the entree, she took all of our orders and even wrote the bills separately for everyone. When the food came out, the entrees came one by one. Eventually all the entrees came out but my Kadun Pika and my friends Guahan Special. Later she came out with a dish and asked if anyone ordered the local something but no one did, but it was actually my friends Guahan Special. As for my dish, I'm pretty sure it was forgotten because she said it would be out in a moment, but I waited and waited, a few friends had already finished their entrees and mine still hadn't come. Eventually it did come and everyone was ordering desserts already. I would have thought they would possibly offer a discount on my meal or even an "I'm sorry about the misunderstanding", but I received none of either. FOOD: Portions were pretty large, but prices were not cheap. From the sampler plate, I tried the spam musubi, empanada, and chicken kelaguen. The spam musubi came as 4 and were little and cute but nothing too special about it, it tasted decent. The empanada was interesting tasting, wish there was more meat filling in it though. The chicken kelaguen which came with chips, was my favorite of the appetizers. The combination of flavors within the chicken kelaguan was delicious!! My entree, the Kadun Pika with red rice, tasted interesting. For some reason it tasted a bit sour, maybe too much lemon and not enough coconut? It was definitely spicy as the waitress said it would be. The red rice was the best part of the entree... And if you run out of rice, extra rice comes in 2 scoops that costs an additional $2. I also tried the Guam fries and I didn't enjoy the thicker cut fries, and it's definitely a heavy dish with the mayonnaise. As for the dessert, chocolate wasted, it was very very sweet & delicious. Definitely a must try dessert, well worth it! FYI: They don't take AMEX, so don't try :P They also offer happy hour from 3-6pm. Their beer selections are from local breweries.

Good lord this place is great. I'd highly recommend getting the Guam bomb. It's basically a giant serving of smothered fries. Much more delicious than my description. Haha. I can't remember the name of them, but they're like egg rolls and are served as an appetizer. GET THEM. You can't be disappointed here.

Came here extra excited because anytime I can have a taste of home, I'm in! And word of mouth was they were really good. Better than Chamorro grill and by a landslide it was amazing! We literally sat on the 5 for 2hrs to get here, and it didn't disappoint. We ordered: Maga lahi, local and Guahan special, mom got the kadon pika, and of course king car. All very very very mouthwatering good. I felt like I was at a home BBQ back on the island. Only thing was missing was the banana donuts which they were out of. :( their empanadas were bomb too! Better than up north. I wish I lived closer to frequent this place. But til my next visit! And if the boys wanna send me a neni girl shirt! I'd love that! Ha!

I love trying new foods so I thought it was worth the 20 min drive from Carlsbad. Jawaiian (Hawaiian reggae) music plays, friendly island vibes inside especially from the staff. Check their website since they have live music sometimes. Cool selection of beer and sake, the Me So Honey which is brewed locally is made of honey and cloves. GUAHAN GRILL - $14. Came with chicken kelaguen which reminded me of a cold chicken sisig, pork ribs with a Filipino twist since it tasted adobo style but not in a sauce, this crispy chicken? empanada, this soy based cucumber salad, and red rice. Delicious and with a good portion. ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… ) Nice change of pace from Filipino and Hawaiian food. If I lived nearby, I'd definitely come back. Now, I gotta go find me some chamorro food back home. ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… )

RED RICE, RED RICE & RED RICE please! I always get the Guahan special with pork ribs and extra red rice as my side. It also comes with the chicken kelaguen & empanada. - Pork ribs: Soft, flavorful and easy to eat - Red rice: AMAZING rice marinated with this red sauce. I wanna eat this with my meals everyday lol - Chicken kelaguen: Good but I think there's too much lemon juice in it. That's just me. (Don't forget to ask for the finadene on the side to drizzle the chicken in!) - Empanada: I LOVE this type of empanada. It's a crispy red/orange empanada (same taste like the red rice) with chicken inside. YUMMMM. && for those beer drinkers out there, they have local beers available on draft (Mother Earth, Stone, Belching Beaver, etc)

We've been cooking Chamorro food all our lives. My Husband is born and raised in Guam. I'm also from Guam. For some reason, we can never get our food to taste as good as theirs. Thank you, to the crew at Guahan Grill for such an awesome lunch. Empanada with that sauce was SPOT ON! The Barbecued Chicken, Pork Ribs and Beef short ribs, is a much recommended dish. I think they have it listed on the menu as, "Maga-Lahi." If you like raw fish, be sure to ask for their Poki dish!!! Best red rice I've had in a long long time. Finadene is the local Guam style salsa. You must ask for it and Drown your food in it! That's how we do it, in Guam. Hafa Adai is the greeting at this establishment! It means HELLO

This is easily some of the best "ethnic" food I've ever had. It was the first time I'd had Guamian food and I was pleasantly surprised at the combination of simple, natural, ingredients that result in great complex flavors over those outstanding pork ribs. Lemon, pepper, onions... At some point, I may stop back in just for a plate of their red rice. In my opinion, the best places out there are family owned/run restaurants. They seems to care, maybe not more, but in a different way about the quality and authenticity of what they're serving. When my food was delivered I asked the guy about everything that was on the plate. He recited the ingredients, cooking styles, and even what to put the side sauce on. All the way around, a great place.

I had been wanting to try this place for a while. Then I came across a Groupon for this place, so I swung by after work yesterday to try it out. They have lunch specials that go till 3 pm. Portions are a pretty good size. It's located next to the IHOP. I ordered: - lumpia ($0.50/pc, can't use the Groupon towards it though because it's a lunch special) - Guahan Special (pork spare ribs, Chicken Kelaguen and one Empanada paired with red rice and cucumber salad) $12.95 I have never tried Guam food before, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was good! They give you a soy sauce/vinegar sauce to go with your food. I asked for extra sauce for the ribs as well. Friendly service, it wasn't busy when I went so I was able to pick any seat I wanted. I would go here again, and I have plenty of food leftover for lunch today.

I was going to give Guahan a terrible review based on my dish: the Beef Short Rib Estufao. This is probably the worst dish I have ever had. The beef was so dry, fatty and devoid of flavor. I couldn't even have more than one bite. However, my girlfriend's Guahan noodles were delicious, so the server gave me an order of that instead of my short rib. If I went back, I'd be too afraid to order anything other than the Guahan Noodles. The service is really good though.

Been hearing good things about this place for awhile now and finally had the time to check it out for myself! Friendly/Islander vibes going on. Ordered the Guam Bomb since that seems to be one of the more popular items on the menu. I love anything french fries related but when their covered with sauces, cheese, and grilled chicken that's definitely a bonus. These were so yummy! A unique creation and taste, definitely something different. One is enough to share for two, they also have good deals for drinks if you make it in on the right time!

The place is clean. Good was good! The opener is really nice! His servers on the other hand are very rude. You have to try their dessert!

I've been here a couple time already. The atmosphere is reminiscent of mom's kitchen and her home cooked meals. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. They have a small bar and offer happy hour. Beer and BBQ, perfect combo! Their food is delicious every time, all I ever want to do is order all the sides and just take it home with me!

So I'm from Guam myself and once I heard this place opened up I had to try it. We do a lot of bbq's at home and wanted to compare. First off I just want to say that this place is overpriced for what it is. I guess being from guam I know how easy it is to make the food. I ordered the magalahi special which can feed 2 people. The red rice was delish as well as the kelaguen. The bbq however was alright. When I first had it when they first opened it was good and they gave a lot. I feel like now the quality and portions aren't as great. The ribs were smaller, chicken was less and they gave less scoops of red rice which mind you were tiny scoops. Back home they give a lot of food so I was hopi g for the same here. My friends and I who are all from guam think that homemade bbq and kelaguen is way better. I guess it's a good lil spot to grab quick food if you're too lazy to grill. Also, their booth at PIFA every year is terrible. They give sooooo little and is overpriced. You might as well drive to their actual restaurant and pay the same but get the normal portions.

We came in to try the food on a groupon which was the saving grace. The food is ok, ribs are way too fatty but tasty. I enjoyed the red rice but not too much on the spam roll. Maybe we're just used to the traditional spam musubi. I think the place is ok and the service is good but the food is way over priced for what it is.

I've only been here 2 times but I am happy to say that I am definitely coming back for more! I live in Chula Vista now and before I used to live in LA so this place is a ways for me but it's well worth it. Me and my boyfriend recently visited and the service was awesome, food was bomb, and.......just everything was great. We both had high expectations and big appetites and both were accomplished. If you want yummy food PLUS leftovers and a great atmosphere then this is the place

Guahan Grill is the closest thing to home. As Guam is over 5,000 miles by plane from San Diego, Guahan Grill delivers and makes you feel like you are actually eating food there. One place that comes to mind is Wednesdays at Paseo (i.e., Guam style farmers market). Authentic and full of flavor. Their meats are marinated very well and are ever so tender. Their pork spare ribs falls off the bones good. Love how they have their cucumber salad a bit different from the style it usually is prepared back home but nonetheless flavor again is intact. Hands down best restaurant that showcases Guam style food. Will be back for more! Tip: order the Maga Lahi comes with all three meats, chicken kelaguen and one empanada paired with rice and one side item. Perfect starter for those who have yet to try Guam style food.

Great atmosphere and unique food from Guam! Great value! They have a check-in special where you get a giant portion of delicious chicken fried rice, two Lumpia and a fountain drink! I'm stuffed! I will have some leftovers for dinner tonight!! Will return!

This restaurant is alright. It's just too pricey for me and the food is not that memorable. Don't get me wrong, it tastes great but I'm familiar with this taste since I've eaten a lot of "Hawaiian" and "Asian" barbecue throughout my life so it wasn't unique. Portion sizes aren't that great too considering the price (I mean, to me, Subway is a much better value than this). I felt ripped off Still, I give props to this restaurant for introducing Guamanian or Chamorro food to San Diego, which not too many people are familiar with. If you want to try the traditional Chamorro delicacy, fruit bat, well guess what? They don't have that

This place is its name, and truly represents the the culture, and food of Guahan. It's priced well and will fill you up. Right on the cover of the menu you are met with a gorgeous picture and at the bottom a brief explanation that is beautiful to out island. If you miss island food, don't want to cook, and have spare change; come to Guahan Grill. From chicken kelaguen with two scoops of rice for $6.50, to $10 some for BBQ plate, how can you go wrong? They have empanadas to poké, take your choosing. Not to mention they are equipped with a bar. Check it out. My recommendation is chagi (try) everything, affordable, great portions, and a sense of Guahan.

This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Oceanside. It has a very calm and laid-back environment that immediately sets you at ease. The music, the people, and the general vibe make you feel right at home. One of my favorite things to order is their Ahi-poke salad. The greens are delightfully fresh, the tuna is very well flavored, and their dressing makes me want to lick the plate clean every single time. If you don't particularly enjoy fish, they even give you the option of a BBQ chicken or beef substitution. In addition, their Guam bomb (a delicious combo of perfectly cooked fries and barbecue chicken) is a real treat, and the Guahan Noodles (A stir-fry type dish with a combination of noodles, veggies, and chicken or shrimp) is a must-have. For a more adult twist, they also have amazing craft beers from local breweries. Overall, I would 100% recommend this restaurant as one of the best places in the area if you're looking for a great island-style meal and a fantastic atmosphere to boot!

Checked this place out on a Friday night with a 20 minute wait. I had the Kadun Pika; it was delicious chicken dish in a broth with just the right amount of spice at an 8/10. My buddy had the short rib Estufao, also tasted great. This had a completely different flavor, almost like mole. My only gripe was the lack of a printed beer list and some beers from Guam. Service was awesome from Alyssa and the guy that greeted us. We will be coming back to try out the rest of the menu soon.

Every time I am in San Diego, I always need to make a pit stop in Oceanside for some Kelaguin and Red Rice! This time is no exception! Their Kelaguin is some of the best I've had, and Red Rice with Finadene Sauce. They're very generous with their portions. Chamorro Fried Rice with Spam is delicious and filling!

My boyfriend wanted to come here for our one year dinner because our first time was just that good, even if we were 45 minutes away he was willing to make the drive. We got the Maga'lahi again, but this time it wasn't as good as the first. The char on it wasn't as good. I think my chicken was a little undercooked, as was my short ribs. The first time they gave us three huge pieces of short ribs, and the second time they gave us two small ones. I don't know what it was, but I think the first time just put our standards up really high that anything after that is just eh. Also got the fried lumpia as an appetizer. Wasn't anything special, could've made it myself. Will come here again (just for the Guam fix), but not as eager, and not worth the 45 minute drive.

SO much food. We had a groupon to this place, otherwise I'd have never found it. Everything we ate was delicious, and we sampled a little bit of everything. It's definitely a little hole in the wall spot, and was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon, but it's well worth peeking in and having some food.

All the meat you can eat! And rice. Lots of rice. Because that's how Pacific Islanders roll. I went with the Chicken Fried Rice and two Lumpia. Hefty portions! I wish my food had more flavor. What I had didn't really wow me, although I think I liked the lumpia more than the fried rice. Next time, I'll branch out and try some of their other dishes. Other Yelpers rave about this place and mention some tasty sounding items, so I'll give Guahan Grill another try!

Well at least I know where Guam is. That's a start since I'm not sure a lot of people do. Other than that I know enough about it to write on the back of a 3 x 5 card. In big letters. I'm not even sure how I got started looking for a Guam restaurant on the mainland. Hint, there aren't many of them. I mean Guam is really small, and there isn't one major food item that stands out in people's minds if you mention Guam. So my anticipation level was high when I learned of Guahan Grill and it happened to be close-by to where I was staying recently in Oceanside. The reviews at Yelp were good so it became one of the few "planned" things during a spontaneous long weekend. It seemed appropriate for my first experience with Chamorro food to order the Maga Lahi Special with red rice and stir fry veggies, plus an order of 4 Lumpia. Because how good (or bad) something tastes is very difficult to communicate with words I'll just say to you with all the emphasis I can ... you HAVE to try this place! The platter consisted of a variety of barbecued meats. No, not barbecue like having the meat soaked in a tangy red sauce but barbecue like in having the meat cooked to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and charred by an open fire. The meats are boneless chicken, pork ribs and beef ribs. This was quite possibly the best barbecue meat I have ever tasted. The side dishes were equally bursting with flavor. The special is appropriate for two people to share and at that both of us were quite full. Maga Lahi, by the way, refers to the highest ranking leader of the Chamorro, equivalent to "chief", so the dish represents the best Carlos was very friendly and helped us newbies a lot. The entire place is clean and welcoming and has an unique and excellent beer selection. Guahan Grill is located in a strip mall (which is a shame, I would love to see a more rustic location, perhaps with outdoor dining) however the interior has a hang loose island vibe to it. It earns 5-stars hands down, and my highest recommendation to give it a try.

This place serves some of the best Guamanian food in San Diego county hands down! I'd like to suggest something but.. It's all good here.. The chicken kelguan is my favorite but you can't go wrong with the pork either!

Destination: Guam Did a rare trip up to north county to meet up with friends up in Vista at their favorite restaurant. The opening acts were revelations. The Poke appetizer with tortilla chips is as good as any offered at Peohe's or Roy's for dollars less. The Guam Bomb is a mouthwatering festival of gluttony - crisp skin on fries, charbroiled chicken, spicy mayo, and a sweet island BBQ sauce. Rounded my dinner off with the grilled wahoo, cucumber salad, and red rice ( white rice simmered in tomato and spices). The food is like island meets latin america and all the wonderments you can imagine that could produce. Excited to further explore the menu. Eat at Guahan today, thank me Chamorro.

As a 1/2 Chamorro girl who doesn't quite always have time to cook the traditional dishes, Guahan Grill has been the go-to place when my homestyle/meat craving kicks into high gear. The traditional stuff: (Like Grandma's!) - Empanadas -Any island BBQ meat they serve (chicken, pork spare ribs, beef short ribs) -Keleguen -red rice -cucumber salad -Corn soup -daigo (pickled radish) & pickled papaya (this will separate the O.G. diners from the regular ones) The new Chamorro fusion type stuff: -Chamorro Wings -Guahan Noodles -Chamorro Style Fried Chicken I have never been dissatisfied with anything I've ever ordered here. Everything is bold and flavorful. Not only is the food delicious, but the portions are pretty huge. The Maga Lahi Special includes all three meats, an empanada, keleguin, and two sides. I usually order this and divide it for 2 or 3 different meals for myself (I don't share, I'm greedy.) They also have discounts if you add them on The Facebook and mention to your server, as well as different random daily deals (i.e. 1$ corn soup on rainy days.) Go get some, yeah?

It was the first time I tried Guahan food so I was really excited about it. As I got my food, it looked really good. It didn't differ much from filipino, thai, or somewhat mexican food. As I bit on the first short rib it was super salty! I tired the mushed up chicken and it was salty also, I tried their empanada and there was nothing special. I didn't even finish the food because it just tasted so salty. I don't know if it was the chef or maybe a bad day from them. Either way, as first introduction to Guahan food, this experience ruined it.

Brie the waitress was super nice and the bisteak was mmm.... And sangria for the girls! Chicken Kelagun , chamorro wings, empanadas were bomb appetiZers... And the chef? in the back is super CHILL we he brings out the food! (identify: he has a tat on his right leg) I ordered the bisteak! Love the flavor if u like unique flavors! And the red rice is yummy I would come back here again!

5 B-I-G stars! The food here is DELICIOUS! Service is FANTASTIC! Prices are AFFORDABLE! This place is a MUST eat. This is AUTHENTIC Chamorro/Guamanian food. DO NOT wait for the Pacific Island Festival aka PIFA, which happens once a year for GREAT Pacific Islander food. The food here is the B-O-M-B-!

Lucky me! This is the only restaurant of it's kind in North County that's worth going to. The food is AWESOME! You can tell that the owner puts a lot of quality ingredients and heart into cooking the food, try it, you will taste the difference. This is what I ordered: 1. BBQ Grilled Chicken (juicy and flavored perfectly) 2. Steamed veggies: decent size serving of zucchinis and broccoli 3. Lumpia : Delicious, and fairly sizable, not like your typical small ones 4. Red Rice: First time I've had it and only place that I can find that serves it. Apparently the red comes from "achote" seed, from Guam. All that matters is that it's natural and tasty. 5. Guahan's version of a donut: more dense version of a donut, just the right amount of sweetness. I taste a little banana in the batter, but I can be wrong. 6. cookie: You have to try "mom's cookie," mom sure knows how to bake! nice a soft straight from the oven. They serve beer and wine (a plus) Great lunch specials ($5.95 plus drink)and happy hour specials (sake bombs for $3) Lastly, service is wonderful. You can see that they truly care about their customers. That's always a welcoming change from the typical corporate type environment. I am becoming a regular. Go there, you won't regret it. Support the locals! :) P.S. I'm not related to the owners, although I wish I was because I will then get fringe benefits. ha ha Tip: Call ahead to order if you are short on time...

We were in the area and craving Chamorro food. Friends told us that this was the best Chamorro place in the area. We were not disappointed. We ordered the kelaguen trio, steak fried rice, fried chicken, the boy had the spam and Portuguese sausage plate and X had the baked salmon. We ordered the empanadas to go. The fish, shrimp and chicken kelaguen is the reason for the 4 stars. It was as close to home made. The red rice was spot on. Husband said that the fried rice was delicious. I wasn't too happy with my fried chicken. It was a little dry and tough. I was hoping for breaded fried chicken with my finadene and red rice. The empanadas were crisp with just the right amount of spice. The chicken was a little bigger than I'm used too but it didn't ruin it for me. The service was great. Thank you for our king car. We will be back next time we are in the area.

After my initial review, I knew I had to try this place again to seem a little more fair. Almost every week since my last review, I have ventured into this place (which I found out was my friend's friend's restaurant) almost every week. Since the Fried Ribs, I have tried the following: _ Chicken Kelaguen _ Fish Kelaguen _ Cucumber Salad Side Order _ Red Rice _ Chamorro Fried Chicken _ Chamorro Fried Wings _ Lumpia _ Pickled Daikon Half the menu, huh? Well after opening up my taste buds, I have found this place to be one of my FAV restaurants to go to every week. Carlos is usually there and he's pretty chill. I brought a friend in and spent some of his time explaining to her his recommendations to her as well as what each dish consisted of. I support this place fully and I'm glad to see that it's fan base it steadily growing.

Delicious!!! This place is amazing!! Went for lunch for the first time and now we are hooked! Large portions of fresh, well made food. Great atmosphere and awesome music. Such the chill, island vibe and the food does not disapoint. Everthing we ate was so delicious! Looking forward to becoming regulars : ) I highly recommend the Kadun Pika. The flavors are so complex, I couldn't stop eating it. And with such large portions, I now have dinner too! P.S. You have to try the pickled Daigon (daikon). Yum!

Our friends has told us how much they loved this place, so I was super excited to go here. We went in for takeout on a Friday night. It doesn't look like a restaurant inside - which for some people might be nice, but I found it a little creepy. It wasn't busy, but it seemed packed because of the limited seating. The "bar" is a very awkward area that resembles a small corner of most middle class american kitchens. The bartender suggested the chicken kelaguen; he said it was like a ceviche, so the first thing I thought was, raw chicken!! Being that I absolutely HATE chicken, and won't eat anything that has even touched it, I let him know that anything that contained chicken, was out of the question. The very next thing he recommended to us was the chicken plate. What? Did you not just hear what I said? No chicken, please! After a few minutes, I decided on the udon noodle plate. Upon placing my order with the bartender, he asked if I would like it with chicken. Seriously. I said, "No chicken, I will have beef please." He then said, "ok, an udon noodles with shrimp." (I had to correct him again.) "Oh, I mean beef." Yikes! He told me it would be ready in 13 minutes. After waiting for 25 minutes, it was finally ready. So when I got home and opened it up, guess what I found? Chicken!!! Maybe the bartender shouldn't have had all those shots of sake with the "regulars". And sake with food from Guam? I don't get it. My husband eats chicken, so he had it the next day and said it was terrible anyways. I really recommend going to the Mediterranean grill next door or Cejas - Even IHOP. This place won't be around long. Also had their lumpia - and the Fillapinos do it waaaaaaay better!

I heard about this restaurant and wanted to try it after reading their menu online, but I was lazy to drive up to Oceanside until I saw the groupon deal show up in my inbox. Okay, that gave me a little bit more of a push so we went one night for dinner. I didn't know their hours had changed (I saw somewhere it was open til 9) so it was a good thing we showed up around 7:15. I would've been extremely angry to show up at 8 only to find out they're closed. Food was very good, had ahi poke for appetizer. I decided to get the kadun pika for tonight, rather than do my usual choice of red rice and bbq meat. I have to say, their kadun pika is a lot tastier than the one I've had at Chamorro Grill in San Diego. And what other way to wash it all down than have a nice king car? I was very satisfied overall and even more that I was able to use the groupon. I would definitely go back again only if I was in the area again though.

Found out about this place through Living Social ($25 worth of food for $12 - holla!) and have never been to a Guamanian restaurant before. I figured 'why not?' since I was born there (although don't remember it since I moved when I was a baby). The friend I met up for lunch here had already tasted some of their food from having eaten some of their catering, so he knew the food was good. He ordered the Guahan Special (chose the pork spare ribs with red rice and green salad) and I ordered the Locals Deluxe (chose boneless skinless chicken with half red & half white rice with the cucumber salad). I also ordered the spam roll since a girl friend of mine always talks about spam musubi (not exactly the same thing but similar), and it got me craving for some. The spam roll came out like 2 uncut short sushi rolls with finadene (Guamanian all-purpose sauce - I googled this lol). It sorta fell apart as I ate it, but can't deny it tasted good. Our waiter said it was a little spicy since it had sriracha in it, but I didn't taste much of it. When the food came out one of the first things out of my mouth was 'Wow!' purely because of the amount of food that we were given. Everything tasted so good, and I was super happy to see big chunks of veggies in my cucumber salad and my friend's green salad (I love my veggies!). I loved the flavor of the meat and appreciate the char from grilling (doesn't anything grilled taste good?) Our waiter suggested to try some finadene with my rice (I assume the white rice since the red rice was already seasoned), and I'm glad he told me because it definitely added good flavor. I also tried some of my friend's dish and it was equally as good as mine. I was most surprised by the taste of the empanada since the outside basically tasted like a tortilla shell (Being Filipina I'm used to a different kind of 'bread/dough' for empanadas, but I totally understand every culture is different... heck Colombian empanadas use cornmeal.) Overall, the staff was super friendly, place was clean, and the food was great with big portions. I can't wait to come back again and try some other items on their menu.

Chamorro Food in Oceanside! Sweet... I dig this place and love the island vibe. Menu is rich with Guam's Island favorites. Made an outing with the family on a Saturday night, all eight of us and ran into a little issue with seating together since it's a small location and the manger didn't want to move the tables around. Luckily the island vibe was steaming from the theme of the restaurant and a group of four kindly moved over towards the bar and allowed our family to seat together. Enjoyed the BBQ pork ribs, red rice, and potato salad. Large food portions and satisfying... Again the restaurant was packed the night of our visit, so service was a little slow and the waitress, who was the only one on duty, mixed up our orders and drinks, so it was understandable. Prices on the menu very but worth the cost. New facility and very clean.

One of my favorite places to eat! I love the atmosphere, food is incredible and the staff is excellent! My sister and I go once a week to enjoy this delicious food! If you have an apatite and you're looking for a good deal, this is the place to go. One thing though, I wish the service was a little faster. People who go on their lunch break from work need a more speedier service. Other then that, ENJOY fellow yelpers! :)

Ummm YES! I know I can make spam fried rice at home, but for some reason it tastes so much better here! haha Loved everything we ordered. Everything was fully cooked, still hot and so delicious. The staff there are so nice! They really know their food and help you with decision making if you're like me and can never decide on what to get. haha We're coming back for sure!

Loved everything about this place! I was not familiar with the Chamorro style of food and was extremely satisfied with my experience at Guahan Grill. Rolled in on a busy Friday night and was greeted and sat quickly. The menu was explained by our wonderful waitress and her suggestions were on point. I found the food to be very similar to that of the Hawaiian style grub and was amazed the volume of food for the price. For newcomers, I'd suggest going with the Maga Lahi Special, as it pretty much covers the gamut of what they offer, however, I'm going back to try out the Guahan Noodles & Kadun Pika in coming weeks. The red rice, cucumber salad, and especially the chicken kelaguen were my favs. The red rice has a gelatinous texture to eat, not unlike Japanese moche. I loved it. The cucumber salad too, reminded me of the type of salad you would get at the Tofu House or at Nijiya Market, delicious!. For those who enjoy alittle spice with their food, the chicken kelaguen was without a doubt my most favorite part of my experience at Guahan Grill. I have no words it was so delicious. Lastly, thank you to the staff who were kind and patient, even though they both were slammed with a packed house of customers. I urge everyone who is not familiar with chamorro food, but have had L&L Hawiian BBQ, make the trip to Guahan Grill. Support a local small biz and have a delicious ethnic meal experience.

Ok despite that my good, long time friends from middle school owns this business, I LOVE the food! Never had Guam foods till this place popped up in Oceanside. The chicken kelaguen is my absolute favorite! Being Filipino, it kinda reminds you of sising! Spicy goodness. Secondly, I love the beef short ribs! Just like moms cooking! :) Small resturant, little seating, kinda long wait, could have friendlier service, weird location, but nonetheless GREAT ISLANDER foods! And good lunch specials and happy hour during the week. It's just nice to have a different food choice in the middle of suburbia. Since the space is small, I suggest better furniture and decorations in the future? But these guys came a long way! It's nice to see old friends reach success even on a local level. :) GUAHAN #FTW!!!

Hafa Adai! As a Chamorra, I had to bring my Grandma here to try it out along with my fiance... we all loved this place!! super authentic and everything was just *good* we ordered the chicken wings appetizer = amazing. all of us had the short ribs with red rice and a different side. the portions are huge, we could barely finish our meal! we got an order of the banana donuts to go and they were *just* like my grandma used to make them. the guahan grill is totally worth the drive! yum yum!

The portions are huge and the food is phenomenal. Reasonably priced too and quick service. I had the pork rib and cucumber salad with red rice and started with chicken kaleguen. Can't go wrong there. I think my cousins who grew up in Guam would love this place.

Just moved to the area from Central Cali and have no experience with Guamanian food so I cant compare, but the food I had here was super tasty! The server seemed genuinely concerned about our experience and was very attentive. I do recommend the ribs and look forward to my next visit!

Finadene sauce - is a salty, spicy, sour all-purpose condiment used in Chamorro cuisine. It is made of soy sauce, vinegar or lemon juice, chopped white onion, and fresh chilies. Adding oil and/or water to finadene makes it suitable as an all-purpose marinade. I had a coworker from Guam who used to dip fruits in soy sauce. Most notably pineapple. She told me that was how people on Guam ate it. I tried eating pineapple the way she did but it didn't really catch on with me. I also tried to copycat her and put soy sauce on avocadoes - to this day I still eat avocadoes that way. People that put soy sauce on all they eat are accustomed to high salt levels and I think that is something to keep in mind if you're trying Guamanian food for the first time. No - the chef was not "in love" or asleep while dumping a whole salt shaker into the dish. LOL. The level of saltiness is just higher than you might be used to. For some reason Guamanian food keeps getting lumped in with Hawaiian food. Finadene sauce is a good example of how much it actually differs. Sure, Hawaiian food on occasion has some salty examples - rock salt on poi, salted kalua pig, soy sauce as a standard condiment, salty crack seed. Guamanian food, however, cranks that up a notch. Same with the tastes of sour and spicy. Anybody trying Guamanian food for the first time may get an assault on their American tastebuds. Kadun Pika, for example, is like Filipino chicken adobo but with way more salty and sour flavor. It'll make you pucker and it'll make you want to drink more. On the menu they tell you when a dish is spicy and the waitress also asks what spice level you want on a scale of 1 to 3. What they SHOULD also be doing is asking the same for the level of saltiness. Maybe even the level of sour. If you are eating Guamanian food for the first time be proactive and ask which dishes are very salty or very sour so you can avoid those or talk them into toning down the levels so you can have a more enjoyable experience. This is especially a must if you have any kind of sodium intake level issues. We had the poke with tortilla chips as an appetizer. It was good but I like it better with rice. It was a little awkward to dip chips in a solid dish like poke instead of a more watery salsa type sauce. We had a Chicken Salad and Kadun Pika as a main course - they were both good and filling. Unfortunately we had no room to try the banana donuts. Perhaps another time. The place itself is in a strip mall on Oceanside boulevard east of College it is the last section of strip mall if you're headed east. Lot's of parking available.

SO DAMN GOOD I could weep with joy!!!! My best friend is Guamanian and I've been enjoying her family's cooking for over 20 years. I make it myself but have never quite been able to achieve the flavors. Walking into Guahan Grill was like walking into heaven. The chicken kelaguen was amazing, quite literally the BEST I have ever had. I like to mix it with the red rice. The pork spare ribs were succulent and falling off the bone. The empanadas were good but the lumpia was terrific, especially when I dip it in the finadine. Had to order another plate of those. The waitress was wonderful and attentive. Sadly, I live in Vegas, but I will be coming back every time I'm in the area. The Chamorro Grill in San Diego is pathetic compared to this.

After reading so many glowing reviews, I was very disappointed with the food I received. The island style ribs I got were waaay too salty and dry. Almost inedibly salty. They get two stars because the server was nice and the rice was ok, but the main course was a deal breaker for me.

Among the several food quests I have (I really should write those down!) is the one for a great empenada. Ever since I had a truly great one at the Polynesian Island Festival on Ski Beach, back when it first moved to that location, I've been on the lookout for a good one, and aside from a Guamanian family party I was lucky to get to go to, I've not had one that even comes close. Enter Guahan Grill. I've heard from some friends that they guys are closer to the authentic taste and decided to test them by ordering empenadas of course! Aaaaaaaaaand, pretty darn good! They don't quite hit the spicy flavor I've had with the others, but they are good enough that I had to make a return trip and get "The Bowl" while I was at it. The Bowl is a couple scoops of rice and a choice of meat. I had the skinless, boneless chicken, which to me tastes better than the L&L version. The deal here is that you get big pieces rather than have them cut in strips like the other place. The sauce that comes with it has a very strong vinegar flavor which I wasn't a fan of, and the rice was undercooked slightly so that it was a bit hard and not fluffy. That would have earned this place only 3 stars but since the empenadas are much too good to allow for that, so 4 stars, at least for now. We also got to taste sliced pickled papaya and some other fruit which was too strong on the pickled taste for me, but since it was a new experience, I was happy to have it! The restaurant itself is a little barren with no decor but for the paint on the walls, but the bar in the corner is a nice locals sit down and there's a wide screen tv that's sure to have the Chargers on it when they play.

I love their chicken!!!! It was really really delicious !!!! And red rice was good!!!! At first service wasnt really nice cause had to wait like 7 minutes to get menu ... I guess they were just busy! But after we got menu service got better :-)

I really wish there was a Guahan Grill next to me in the OC. The food is awesome! I had the fried rice with spam....ya I said it..spam. It was so flavorful! I could have eaten this all day. We had something that looked like an egg roll and that was really good too! Great prices, very affordable. The service was great too. This place is all in all AWESOME!

Oh man, it's allll about the spam roll!! Brings me back to traveling in Hawaii. Crispy fried spam, sticky rice, crispy cucumber, briny seaweed and a spicy aioli to top it off... Lip smackin' good! This place is great to try if you want something different, and they have outdoor seating, and beer & wine- the perfect lunch spot. Their BBQ was pretty good, but I would def recommend the spam roll & cucumber salad.

Best Guam restaurant since ever since. Better than chamoru grill, islander grill, yokozuna's and ej's BBQ! This place does Guam food right. The kelaguen was excellent along with the red rice and empanada. They even have bunêlos for the rest of you that means banana donuts. The spare ribs fell off the bone and they even had pickled papaya and daigo (daikon). This place reminded me of my parents cooking. Great all around! The che'lu (brother) working here was a cool cat. Loved those empanadas Guam style baby! Wish I had more. My tiniest complaint was just a tad too much of saltiness. But for Guam (Guahan) it doesn't get any better, cept for grandmas house.

We went here for my kids' school fundraiser and it was AWESOME! First off, I love that they participated in raising money for the school. Second, I love to support local/family owned businesses. Third, the service was AMAZING and they were so sweet! And, finally....the food....WOW! SOOOOOO GOOOD!!! Go there, seriously, go there!

There aren't many competitors in the Guamanian food industry. But from the ones I have tried, this is by far the best. I love everything about this place, except location - I wish it was closer to me! But I would make the drive from RB to eat there. The portions are HUGE! Go for the Guahan Special, which comes with a choice of mear, chicken kelageun, one empanada, with rice and one side item. You won't regret ordering this and you'll have plenty of left overs! The chicken kelaguen was by far the best kelaguen I have tasted (I am not Guamanian and so my taste might be skewed). And their empanadas are simply addicting. 1 was not enough! I had to order an appetizer portion to go which didn't last long at home! There empanadas are 10x better than Chamorro grill. The spam roll was ok - just like getting spam musubi, but with cucumbers. And a great way to end dinner was with dessert - we had the banana donuts - i am not a huge fan of bananas but I loved this dessert. thinking about it right now makes me want to hop in my car and pick up some, as well as the rest of their food! Definitely highly recommended and a must must try!

The service is super friendly. I had their red rice with chicken kelaguen and it totally brought me back to my younger years living with my Chamorro family. I will definitely be back, and often.

Great Food. I've been here a few time's and I'm giving 4 starts instead of 5 due to the mushy tasteless rice I got the last time I was there. Usually I'm never disappointed when it comes to their food but that time I was. I always get a few lumpia's which are a great appetizer and sometimes only .50 ea. I love love love the j's baked fish. It is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great price for the amount of food you get.

I hadn't eaten Chamorro food since the college days and I'd been dying for it and when I heard of this place, I drove all the way from San Bernardino county to check it out, especially as a Pacific Islander I like to patronize businesses that sell island food. The place has a nice decor and the person serving me was a nice guy. I got some empanadas and the kelaguen and red rice plate with some fenadene and a cold beer. Definitely hit the spot and brought a smile to my face. Definitely going back to this place again!

WOW! If you want great home cook Island food this is definately the place. Nice friendly family atmosphere at more than reasnoble prices. I started with some appetizers(lumpias) they were outstanding. My main course was the shrimp stir-fry it was awesome, the shrimp, zuchinnis and brocoli mixed in with a speciel sauce over white rice I couldn't get enough of it. I also had a side prtion of their potatoe salad and red rice, the rice was good and the potatoe salad was amazing I thinki I'll just come back here for the potatoe salad alone. I think everything was excellent, way better than any other Island or Hawaiian place in this erea.

If you haven't tried this place out yet, you're missing out! Not only is the food fresh, simple and absolutely delicious, the atmosphere adds a whole new level to the concept of island food and island hospitality. The second you walk in, the owners and servers are ready and waiting to greet you with smiles and recommendations! Their attentiveness is impressive but not too overwhelming. I have yet to try most of their lunch menu but I do have to say that if you don't at least sample the baked fish (salmon), you've passed on a mouthwatering experience. However, if you're not a mayo fan you may want to steer clear. Their empanadas are also to die for. I may not be a connoisseur of home cooked Guamanian fare but if this is it, send it right over! Oh and one more thing, BANANA DONUTS. Of all the simple things in life to enjoy, BANANA DONUTS. Not too sweet and definitely a dish to share with others (I probably would order my own but that's a personal choice and consequence I accept as my own).

Yes, 5 stars. Perfect? Well, maybe not quite. But really damn good. A simple place that does what it sets out to do. Unique, well prepared food. Cucumber salad was a delight - beautiful sweet fresh vinegar spicy; udon noodles and veggies with chicken was filling and fulfilling - perfectly stir- fried with bbq'd chicken. Banana donuts were great, and they'll be trying Mango donuts soon! We'll be bringing friends and family here.

I am unsure why this place has such a high rating unless it is by a specific group of people and taste. Its been a while so I can't remember for sure which dish I ordered, but it was one of their main featured dishes. I got beef, and the gf got chicken from what I recall. What I clearly do recall is that the food tasted like you were pouring salt right into your mouth. Since both our dishes were salty, I can only assume that this is the type of food that is meant to be salty. Now don't get me wrong, I eat a fair amount of salt, grew up on it when we had less food so the saltier it was the more you could stretch out the food to add to the rice. However, in this day and age, this amount of salt is beyond unhealthy. Just imagine something salty, and multiply that by 3x and assume its just a hair below eating salt by itself. We are very hesitant to give it a second try, I mean seriously it wasn't just a bit on the salty side, it was just plain super salty. ( It was thin cuts of beef marinated, with what tastes like some lemon, and a truck load of salt.)

Okay , i'm gna have to break one of the ruLes here & write a review . My name is Bri & i'm a waitress at Guahan GriLL . This is a new business , & it's just amazing to see & be apart 0f the growth of this restaurant . Everyone works as a team & everyday is a Learning experience . Prior to getting hired here , i didn't know the owners .. & i have to admit that these guys are really passionate about their customers . They have speciaLs , coupons , & discounts ALL the time . & for a new business , even i thought that was pretty generous . A little too generous in my opinion , but i'm not in their shoes . BUT to get to the point .. i reaLLy enjoy my work environment & aLL the new & oLd faces i get to see every shift . The customers are what reaLLy make the difference & i Love answering questions & suggesting menu items to first timers ! Having any doubt about this pLace ? You shouLdn't , you are more than weLcome to Look at the menu when you get there & ask as many questions as you want . Theres something on the menu for everyone . i grew up eating food from Guam & i can honestLy say that the best empanada i've ever had is at Guahan GriLL . if you're from Guam , or grew up eating food from Guam .. you know what it's Like to go to a Chamorro party & eat the food after it's been sitting there for awhiLe . At Guahan GriLL everything is FRESH . Fried items are never SOGGY & BBQ is never COLD . Judge me if you want for writing this review .. it doesn't matter to me . i simpLy just wanted to give props where props were deserved & give you guys a LittLe idea of what it's Like on the inside of this restaurant . The owners , chefs , & even some of the waitresses & bus boys (not aLL , but some) are from Guam .. so you're getting quaLity food , with famiLy recipes , aLong with some Chamorro history . it can't get any more cuLturaL than that . Be sure to ask the waitresses for any speciaLs or promotions going on ... & take advantage of the 50cent wings & Lumpias , whos to say it's gna be on the menu forever ?!

This is in our neighborhood. We were so glad when the other two restaurants in this new center opened. OK, I was worried when they only had PEPSI products and no iced tea, but wow, water is cheaper. OK, to the point, the FOOD. I love interesting tastes and this is a great experience for that. We got 3 dishes. Bisteak, "Fried" Chicken, "Fried" Ribs Sides: White Rice, Red Rice, Potato Salad, Cucumber Salad. The Bisteak was an amazing mix of tastes, garlic, vinegar, coconut, but not in a thai sweet style, very different. I really loved it and had to eat it slowly to enjoy each bite. The Fried Chicken was more like what some places would call a BBQ chicken, but really perfect. Amazing flavor, great serving. (All servings were perfect size.) The Fried Ribs were not the favorite of the 3 as they were more bone than meat. Not bad, just not on par with the other two dishes. I really liked the red rice instead of the white. They may not ask if you want white or red, so let them know if you want to try red. The potato salad was really good... high end of potato salad. The cucumber salad was normal (I like cucumber salad) but the cucumbers were very large. We had Lumpias for a starter. Not great, average for a friend roll. Certainly not bad. Next time I will get the Fried Chicken for my entre and try the other sides. It will take another 3 or 4 trips to try all the things I want to try. Oh, staff is cool. Very much a family feel. The atmosphere is very comfortable.

Owner was super friendly, allowed flexiblity for the little one from the menu so he could have what he wanted! Maga Lagi special could feed 2-3 people so great value. Mainland BBQ Ribs were done right and tender, I could almost go there if I wanted some ribs even though it is not on their Guam menu. TVs and a little bar with sports on, great vibe..

This was the first Guamanian restaurant we tried out here in California. It was pretty good, reminds me of home. The red rice was delicious. The chicken kelaguen was good. The empanada was not the best I've ever had, but still good. We also had some of the shrimp kelaguen, which gave me a tummy ache, not sure why. It still tasted pretty good. My husband, however, had the bisteak. He thought it was too salty and doesn't really taste anything like bisteak. Other than that, the service was good and quick. Staff was very friendly and hospitable. I like it, and would probably come back again in the future.

I get the great reviews. Guahan Grill is an rarity in which it serves chamorro food on the mainland. Guamanians want to support familiarity. i was tempted too, but i have to be candid. i love Chamorro food but the BBQ here is extremely salty. perhaps my standards were set high eating at Proa while visiting guam 2 weeks prior to my visit to guahan grill. the keleguen, kadun pika and Chamorro empanada is average. Again, eating great tasting chamorro empanadas and keleguen at convenience stores on guam and home cooking during my visit two weeks ago promoted my average comment. This is merely my opinion. If i hadn't recently visited Guam, i would have given Guahan Grill 4 or 5 stars.

THANK GOODNESS for Island food in North County!! There's nothing like good ole' home style guamanian style cooking to induce flashbacks of Guam! Chicken Queleguen and Feni Deni the EXACT way its meant to be! When I go here, I don't mess around. Its all about the "Hungry Boy Combo" We're talking Chicken Queleguen, BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork Ribs and Kalbi Style BBQ - Serve that with some red rice and potatoe salad, you've got one EXTREMELY filled plate with left overs to spare!! The prices are very affordable as well!! A great place to stop in on your lunch break if you work in the North County of San Diego. Customer service is VERY friendly with a family atmosphere, I was greeted as soon as I walked in and everyone who worked there was more than happy to strike up conversation. Definitely a place I would bring coworkers/friends to, so they can try something they don't normally have - GUAMANIAN FOOD.

I came across the good reviews of this restaurant on yelp and decided to give it a shot. It was my first time tasting the food of Guam, so I don't have anything to compare it to. Nonetheless, I found the food to be delicious and a great value. I ordered the mana lana. The bbq was tasty and enjoyable. I especially loved chicken kelua and will be coming back for more of it in the near future!

if i could give this place no stars, i would. Our first time dining here, Customer Service was o.k., only downfall on that is the waitress talked way too much & when I ordered, she made recommendations "oh that's nice but...this is better", I felt like I couldn't order what I wanted. The Spam Roll was bad, the hot sauce is very very hot, the spam was not cooked at all, came straight from the can & I prefer my Spam fried. It really would have been better if they fried the Spam and gave you choices of mild, medium or very spicy sauce but sadly, no choices. The Cucumber Salad was soaked in soy sauce, at least that is what it tasted like to me, I did not taste vinaigrette at all, it was too salty, not pleasant looking and not delicious at all. The Lumpia is tasteless, all i tasted was the oil it was fried in. Chicken Kelaguen was to point but nothing to brag about, it was a little on the dry side. I was not impressed with the Beef Short Ribs, the marinate was again...too salty. It looked nice but did not taste good at all. The potato salad is also tasteless, it honestly taste like it came from a TV dinner they had bought at Ralph's grocery store behind the restaurant. I regret giving this place a try, I should have went to L&L. I seriously do not know how this place got 4 stars, I'm guessing their employees are doing the reviews on here.

The food was awesome and the service was fabulous. They make you feel at home island style. I highly recommend starting off with the Chicken Kelaguen. We tried the Patgon Special, the Guahan Noodles w/ Chicken, Guahan Noodles w/ Shrimp and Shrimp Kadu. All the food was absolutely delicious. We were stuffed, but our taste buds were screaming for more. I am already looking forward to my next visit!!

ok so when you walk in its super small inside maybe like 8 tables and a small bar. Its nice and clean inside. We got seated right away but then sat there 15-20 minutes to get our order taken and it wasn't until I walked up to the waiter to tell him we were ready to order. the guy got a clue that he had neglected us so he gave us a complimentary lumpia appetizer. The food is really good, but you do have to wait a while to get your food. The banana donuts are really good as well. So overall food good service bad.

I was super stoked to try some island grub. I had the fried ribs with red rice and some crazy donut holes that tasted amazing. The best part about the experience was they had a guy playing the guitar next to the bar. Made the atmosphere amazing! Great vibes, Great Music and Great food. Not to mention welcoming beer prices. I'll definitely make another trip.

I am from the beautiful island of Guam and I had an experience here, the food was great, the place was clean, the prices were reasonable, but the waiter "Tony" was the reason why everyone loves Guam. His hospitality was ***** that was five stars for him. The only thing their missing is shrimp patties. I will be sure to return there, although I live in San Diego.

I bought a Groupon to try out Guamanian food since my only experience was trying some Guamanian food at PIFA. My BF had the Guahan noodles and really enjoyed it, his plate was clean! I ordered the short ribs and I liked that they were thick cut and the marinade was delicious. The chicken empanadas were so yummy! I will definitely be back:)

Yummy! We ordered the Guahan Noodles with shrimp and the chicken fried rice. It was all very well-seasoned. So much flavor! The chicken was great! The shrimp were so-so (would like more sear and seasoning). We'll be back. The chocolate chip cookies were decent, too. Wish they had brewed iced tea & Splenda.

Delish! Went today for lunch and food was amazing! I ordered the BBQ chicken with red rice and cucumber salad and was in food heaven! My table also ordered chicken kelaguen, which was awesome! For an appetizer, we ordered chicken empanada, which is a bit different than what I get back home, but came out smoking hot and delicious. We ended our meal with bunelos (banana donuts) which again came out smoking hot with vanilla ice cream. I would leave the ice cream off next time - the dish doesn't need it. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name of our server, however he was attentive, informative and definitely representative of all that is down home Guamanian hospitality. All in all, I give Guahan Grill 5 stars. My only regret is not ordering more to take home...guess I will be venturing back down to Oceanside soon! If you are Chamorro and live in the SoCal area, make a trip down here - you won't regret it. Guahan Grill, you have my heart!

Started with some free lumpia (thanks Yelp!) that were good, not too greasy. I had the fried chicken with red rice, steamed veggies and cucumber salad. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the rice was quite good too. The cucumber salad was not what I was expecting; its big slices of cucumber in soy, rather than vinegar. Not all that great. The place is cute inside, and they have Oside Ale Works beers on Tap. The portions are LARGE. I'm totally gonna go back for the banana donuts.

I love Guahan Grill. They're close to my work so I go there often, first only on Wednesdays to get the BBQ chicken sandwich special, but now they did away with day specific lunch deals, so you can get any lunch special any day of the week which is nice. I still have yet to try any of the more traditional items, but I don't care because the chicken sandwich is awesome. Its chunks of grilled chicken, onions and cheese with a special sauce on a roll, and bbq sauce on the side. I also really like their potato salad, it has bits of peppers and olives and other goodies in it you wont find in bland deli style potato salads. At first I wasn't impressed with the lumpias but either they changed their recipe or my tastebuds changed because now they seem way better now then when they first opened. The staff there is very friendly, the prices are very reasonable, and there are some interesting things to try on the menu. Sometimes I wish the food would come a bit faster but usually its only an issue during a lunch rush or when there happens to be a large party. Also a word of caution, the pickled papaya is not at all sweet, very sour vinegary taste. I understand some people like it but sorry my taste buds are just too white to hang with that lol

Rocks!!! Fresh, made to order island food. Gtood island food, is hard to come by. Usually its greasy, heavy and the ingredients are rarely fresh. This place is just the opposite. The staff is very helpful. All your Guamanian favorites as well as Lumpia, and even Empanadas. We had a feast! They also have good beers on tap and I believe wine is available too. I will definitely spread the word.

Best island (Guam) food in San Diego! My family and I have hit every Guam restaurant we can find in the area and this was the best so far. We had Spam Fried Rice, grilled chicken, lumpia, and banana doughnuts --- everything was delicious. The red rice and finadene were awesome. Food was so authentic we almost thought we were back in Guam. Service was great with the server checking in every few minutes refilling drinks. Great experience. We will definitely be back!

My daughter and I got very ill after eating here our first time, sorry to say. We were looking for a good local place to eat since my husband is a Pacific Islander. Everything fried looked so black as if the oil hadn't been changed for months. Needlesstosay, we were very disappointed, hope the food is better now, but I don't think we will return ;(

I can't say I liked it. It was weird. I had the barbecue short ribs with two sides of steam vegetable and cucumber salad. The place it self is very small and had a "to go" atmosphere. There was no unsweetened ice tea. No big deal but a little irritating. Then the food to 30 minutes to get. For that locations I thought it was expensive. Not a good dining experience. The ribs were okay but not a lot of meat. My husband wanted chicken but they only have thigh meat. Repeat... they do not have chicken breast or any white meat. He ordered a burger which was burnt. They gave us this "KELAGUEN: which is cold mixed chicken with lemon onions and pepper. It was terrible. The only thing I liked was the empanada. Everything else was not good and the server didn't seem to know much. Sorry.

Thank you for such a wonderful meal! Originally stopped in for a quick lunch & came back with a Groupon - brought my husband there & he thoroughly enjoyed it. We will be back to enjoy their Family Night Meal Deal. Staff totally caters to the client - I even sent my kids down to eat while I was at Buff and Glo (I called in the order prior to their arrival)!. They are completely open to questions & meals were VERY plentiful. Absolutely lovely & we'll definitely be coming back!

Tried Guahan grill last night. The food was good. I've never had this type of food but really enjoyed it. We got the MAGA LAHI SPECIAL it was a nice variety. The only complaint I have was the Chicken Kelaguen didn't come with tortillas like it said and the cucumber salad didn't have any tomatoes. All in all we enjoyed it and would go back.

great relaxing island atmosphere, enjoyable music, friendly service and good food. we tried a little of everything with my favorite being the lumpia, empanada, white and red rice and chicken. i liked the chicken more than the beef but it was all good. we met the brother owners and they were very friendly.

I love this place. I've tried the ribs, chicken, shrimp and fish keleguen, corn soup and kadon pika. All were good. The peeps who work there are really nice. Large portions.

my elderly friend and i, also a senior, ate here last sunday evening. i had a certificate for $20 worth of food and the waitress suggested the sampler platter for $18.95 which she said was enough for 2 people. we opted for the red rice and the stir-fried veggies. all i can say is wow - what a wonderful meal. the platter had 2 large delicious ribs, 2 nice-sized pieces of delicious boneless chicken, 2 large pieces of shortribs, a large empanada and a bowl of chicken kelaugen (a cold chicken salad of sorts) and 2 scoops of rice. the veggies were in a soup bowl. the kelaugen was tasty but a bit spicy for me but my friend who is more into spicy foods enjoyed it. everything else was absolutely amazing, especially the shortribs - the seasoning on the short ribs was the most delicious i've ever tasted and i haven't stopped thinking about them since. the ribs were tender, the chicken was moist and flavorful, the veggies were wonderful and the rice was perfect. there was so much food that my friend took home enough for a whole meal and i took home enough for a good sized snack. i'm glad the place is nearby since i cant wait to go back for more of their shortribs. my mouth waters just thinking about them.

I stop by at least twice a week and love the variation in food. The quality of food is excellent and the people make you feel part of there culture. The chicken sandwhich is excellent and the kadun pika plate is an excellent culture dish.
