LOVE this place! Portions are huge and the hummus is the most outlandishly delicious hummus I have ever eaten. I could eat that for days without getting sick of it. It's just that good. It's fun to nosh on raw onions, turnips, mint leaves, and fresh, pillow-y pita bread while you're waiting for your food to come out. Seriously, try the raw onion. It's not "spicy" at all. (Oddly enough, the barbecued onions that come with your dish is harder to eat than the raw onions.) I love the cornish hen dish. I dunno what the official name is on the menu, but it's delicious and so juicy that I don't even bother trying anything else. The beef koobideh is also ridiculously tasty. Probably my favorite place to get koobideh. Yummy! Every dish comes with a fun heap of white and saffron rice. Sooo much food that it makes me laugh cuz I'm so happy about eating. Barbecued tomato is fun to cut up and eat, but like I mentioned earlier, the barbecued onion needs to be cooked more. (And it needs a coat of oil or something.) WARNING: be careful about taking home leftovers - which you most likely will. You will end up gagging in your own car once the food enters the confines of your vehicle. Food smells awesome in person and when presented on a plate, but once it enters your car, it straight-up smells like some someone farted too heartily and left a lingering fart stain on every salvageable inch of fresh air that could have remained.

Food is fresh and delicious, you dont have to wait long either.Take out service is fast. Only con is that there are no servers, they come once to the table then you on your own.

Awesome & Authentic Persian food! I can not tell you how great this place is! Not only we order for dinner at least once a week, but also I also use them for my catering my events! All staff are friendly & very quick service. Love this place!

Just stopped in here and this is some really good food! I have never had Arabic/Persian food before but, it was fantastic! I got the chicken koobideh and will be back again for the same dish. The food is very filling and solid. The service was top notch and an overall five star experience.

Omg the best persian food ive ever had. Ther beef koobideh and chicken kabob is the bomb. Ive been to other persian restaurants but this one is pretty good. The prices are pretty decent for the amount. I recommend that you get takeout!

Always great! Even after all these years! I remember I was introduced to Shamshiri (the West La location) back in the early 90's and it was awesome. The best kabobs ever! Today they are even better. Way to go guys!!

I went with my girl friend to eat to this popular Mediterranean restaurant. We got seated in the corner of the window. My eyes started to wonder around to checkout the place and i was disgusted! I could not believe how dirty this place was! The window was dirty, the walls was extremely dirty, and the floor were dirty! I usually don't care about cleanliness, but if this tiny spot was this dirty image the kitchen! The food was good. However, El Taco Indio is probably cleaner than this place! This was my first time eating here and if the place was clean i would return. The food was good and service was good, but it is unlikely i would return and i live across the street!.

I have been coming here for years with my friends. Their lamb shank specials are delicious and affordable. The sabzi appetizers are always fresh. Onion and fessenjoon is amaze balls.

    (5)
  • Sam S.

The food is great and reasonably priced. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is that the location and interior isn't great. I usually just pick up.

I'm Iranian myself. I have eaten in all Iranian restaurants in La and Orange County as well. This restaurant is OK. If you notice , not so many Iranians eating in this place, because we know how Persian food should be. I was served by a waiter, who was very friendly but his shirt was very dirty. His pants had lots of oil marks on. My friend who is an American gentleman ordered chicken Kebab., I ordered Kobideh Kebab, my kebab was served very ugly on a dirty small plate . When I brought it to the waiter's attention, he said what is wrong with it? I did not say anything and let it go . My friend loved his food and ordered one more Chicken Kebab for his dinner.

3 1/2 stars. I came in for dinner on a Saturday evening after a round of golf. Shamshiri is located in a strip center with plenty of free parking. The restaurant was undergoing an expansion and part of the wall was boarded up which will enlarge the dinning area. My order the #36 Shamshiri - a combination of barg and koobideh. Served with broiled tomato, vegetables and basmati rice at $15.75 The entree came with a salad which was fresh and the dressing was sour flavored and unique tasting. My entree was large and I enjoyed the rice and koobideh but the barg was dry and overcooked. The grilled bell pepper, onion and tomato was yummy. The service here was below average. I had to request a refill for ice tea and also request my bill!

  • Kathy K.

Their koobideh kabob (ground beef) is my favorite. It's flavorful and grilled nicely. The kabobs come with an abundance of buttery, fluffy rice. May be large enough for two people to share.

Hands down the best food in the valley I've been coming here since I was a kid and its never disappointing the chicken shamshiri is my absolute favorite everything is always fresh and great.

Restaurant is clean and the Food portions are amazing. The taste of the food is very spot on. I've had food in the middle east and they come very close. Other places do just as well. Shamshiri is always busy and they have a ton of "to go" orders all day. They also serve large platters for parties which is great. The price is a bit tad high but then again...you get a huge portion. But for someone who wants to eat a fair portion size, bring a friend to split the plate. The wait time isn't long at all. I notice pple getting their order within 10 mins. I wish they had pictures for their foods since I'm not too familiar with the cuisine. I tried to order random things and that only occurred twice. By venturing out the two times, I was disappointed both times. So now I just stick to my 2 favorite items - lamb and beef koobideh. YUM!!

3 and a half stars. Staff was super friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. Great to have him help us choose our meals. Price was okay. I was hoping for a bit more veggies with my meal but it was mostly rice. Really liked the pita bread and toppings brought to the table at the start. This place is good if you are looking to try something new, but the food didn't wow me enough to warrant coming back again.

I went here for dinner last night with my wife. This place was like finding a diamond in the rough. The food is delicious and it gives you that authentic Persian feel. Highly recommend and plan on going here for lunch today.

  • Rihan K.

I have been to this spot a couple of times, it is pretty good. The food is good I have had the beef and chicken koobideh. The give a good amount of portion size on the meal, if you get the lunch special you get soup. Also one negative is they service is kind of bad at times. Overall it was pretty good and I will be back.

I never realize that Shamshiri is in multiple locations. The one in Westwood is one of my favorite Persian restaurants so I was hoping that this location would live up to the same standard. I'm not exactly sure what it was, the price was fair and the food was okay, but it just didn't sit well with me. My friend and I came after a visit to CSUN. We arrived for an early lunch and were amongst the only patrons at 11:00am. Seated immediately we were given our menus and then left alone for a long time after ordering. We got the following -beef koobideh and chicken koobideh. I've had both dishes before at other places and I can't say that I was that impressed with the flavors here. It was all a bit too bland for me..and for some reasons I think the portions here is a little bit smaller than the westwood location. -the chicken was on the dryer side, but the rice was nice and fluffy. -you have a choice of opting for a salad on the side and the salad was just sad.. We also ordered a side of hummus and our waiter forgot about it until we reminded him later. For the price, I believe the lunch specials around $7-8, the deal was okay. However, since i'm not in the area, there would be no reason for me to trek so far to mediocre food.

The manager is so great and the food can't be better. There's absolutely nothing lacking here. Authentic delicious great quality food and gray service. I can't say enough. Go here, you'll love it.

Great food. I tried the chicken and Steak kabob. The meats were flavorful and the rice was done to perfection. Try the humus with your pita they make it on site. The food was dne right and flavorful without overdoing it. This is a family run business that has been around for over 20 years. Next time I'm going to switch it up a bit and sample the menu. The true sign of a great eatery is if they can consistently cook dishes well.

fantastic persian food. better than some others i have tried in this area. was surprised to get a nice complementary salad with our meal which we dont get at any other persian restaurants. everything i expected and more, great Basmati rice, tender and juicy meat. very hearty portions, friendly service, this place does not disappoint.

Been eating here for over 10 years. Food is great, I always get the Tahdig and never disappointed. Bring your appetite, they give you a lot of food for what you pay. The chicken Shamshiri is my favorite. Their party trays are also very good and they deliver. Great for parties. Their Thursday Ghorrehh stew is AMAZING!!!

  • Erica S.

I rarely go to the valley, but when I do I am jealous of two things that the valley has in excess, and that those of us in east LA are lacking: an abundance of left-hand turn signals, and really good, inexpensive mom-and-pop restaurants featuring food from all over the world. Granted, there are great Indian, Mexican, El Salvadorean, Thai, Vietnamese, and so many other places in east LA, but not too many at the rock-bottom prices for huge plates of food and lots of parking. Where this place lacks atmosphere and friendly service, it makes up for it with really delicious lamb, fresh hummus and pita, and great stuffed grape leaves (even though I have yet to meet a grape leaf I don't like--hello last meal on earth!). It's stationed in a strip mall behind a "castle" building and next to a Mexican restaurant, but it's pretty easy to find, and worth the trip, especially at such inexpensive prices!

Back long ago when i was still employed, my coworkers and i would manage to trek out here for some good kabobs. I get same thing off the menu- the koobideh (chicken). Good meal each time, nice size, and the salad or soup and pita bread are a nice start to your meal and all for a great prize.

    (4)
  • Lance L.

their kabobs are the bomb.. they're great.. if you persian food.. this is the place to eat.. i just gave them 4 stars because the server was a little bit grumpy when serving the food to other customers..

  • Peter K.

I've been eating here since 2004 and noticed the gradual decrease in service and quality of the dish. I brought my mother here on her birthday last week and our lady server never greeted us. She was both very rude and unpleasant. To make things worse, both our filet mignon kabobs were badly charred. After I complained and she brought out a few pieces of meat instead of making us a whole new dish. She didn't even bother to check on us, not even once! I recommend not coming here. I think she's related to the lame duck owner standing behind the cash register.

  • Ry G.

The ultimate food experience. I value taste and quantity for your price. Based on this criteria, I am going to be eating at Shamshiri a lot. I love the Koobideh and Hummus and will dream about it tonight. The only negative I can say is that it is kinda crowded because the food is so good.

    (5)
  • Alex L.

Excellent food, great bang for your buck. The servers aren't the most friendly, but sometimes that's great, I don't always need someone with 30 pieces of flair on their outfit.

    (5)
  • Chris C.

i come here at least once a week. food comes up fast. the kabob, koobedeh, and the hummus are great. their entrees all come with soup or salad. they have reasonable lunch specials too! check it out! all the haters can stop ranting about other peoples' accents. JEEZUS. -Von Love.

  • Armen B.

Food is excellent. One of the best Persian food places, if not the best, in LA. Prices are very reasonable. The restaurant itself is not fancy...just functional with tables and napkins and utensils in a busy shopping center. Service is just there to get you the food....don't expect a french-accented waiter or waitress trying to impress you. Lunch portions are a very good size even for dinner....dinner portions are bigger. The place gets busy and they seem to have a huge take-out customer base.

    (4)
  • Sheena F.

Incredible food.... kind of a guetto looking hole in the wall place tho. But WOW the food.... amazing! Great for take-outs and catering big parties at home. Owner is very nice too.

great food..cheap prices...chicken kuebideh is my favorite but ive never had a bad meal from here...too much food, but thats never a bad thing

  • M M.

This place was recommended by our Persian neighbors. It's tasty. Huge enough portions to share or make multiple meals out of. Totally divey. Good prices. When I am in town, I try to go. I really wish I knew about this place when I was still going to high school a couple blocks away. Oh well.

    (5)
  • Scott W.

This rather unpretentious place has my favorite chicken koobideh and delicious, garlicky hummus that does not smell like...armpits! They give you generous portions and while the rice is pretty fluffy and tasty with the meat, if you're on a low-carb diet, ask for less rice or no rice, all salad. Their barg and Cornish game hens are quite good, too, but I did not like their stews or rice with cranberries. Definitely more affordable than its sister restaurant in Westwood and the food is tastier in the Valley, in my opinion.

    (5)
  • Joe R.

good food. maybe i go back when i know what to get instead of plain old kebabs.

they allow dogs here!!!!!!!! hahahha thats why i give it four stars!! they let my dog in here... i don't know whyyy buttt thankkkkksss!!

I came here with a group of five family members. Four beef orders, one chicken. Hard to decide which was more delicious, fresh, or flavorful. Everything was tender, juicy, and nicely seasoned. Plenty of tasty seasoned rice. A very good value for the money. I ordered side orders of the flavored rice: one orange peel and one cranberry. Normally I don't like orange peels or cranberries, nor do I like sweet things in my savory dishes. However, these two fruit-flavored rices are not truly sweet, and they are wonderfully delicious. Also, not on the menu but very tasty: crispy rice, which is the bottom of the pan where the cooked rice got caked on. mmmmm. Another bonus for some of you: the meal is completely dairy-free. The "buttery" rice has no butter at all. Beware, the setting is in a bland mini-mall and very casual. You go here for the food, not atmosphere. Doesn't matter. Will definitely return, without hesitations.

The absolute worst customer service! We ordered food to be delivered and upon arrival, the food was not only cold, the order was wrong. We called to let them know the order was wrong, and they basically made us feel like we were crazy. I will never order from this place again. There are so many better persian restaurants in the valley, I'm not sure how this place will stay in business much longer if they keep up with their bad attitude and horrible customer service.

Im a regular, and I'll never stop being a regular. Location- a little awkward small complex, very tough to park especially now with the new zumba place, can get pretty busy in the evening. Food- delicious. Beef kubbideh with orange rice is my go to order. Appetizers try the tadik both gormehsabzi, and fesenjon. Probably wrong spelling but it sounds like it lol. Ive had the steak filet too, delicious . Chicken shamshiri also bomb. All the meat is good. The lamb shank is amazing especially if you are guy and feeling lucky for the night get the lamb shank ull thank me later when you get lucky with the ladies ;/. Service - solid service, keep waters filled, check on you, bring pitas, food comes quickly. Love this place

I've been to this place twice. I have a close friend who loves this place and introduced me. My first experience was good my second was ruined by bad customer service. I ordered a $14.95 shish kabob plate and added a $4.95 skewer of steak for my hubby who I begged to go here, even though he wasn't hungry for dinner yet. I figured he could eat the one skewer of steak and I'd share some rice with him. NOT at this establishment... haha... They charge you to share food! I could understand if they charged you to split a plate, perhaps because that is more work for them but for my husband to take a little rice from my plate and they are going to charge me a fee?!?! I really wanted to walk out. My hubby was more patient then me and asked them to waive the fee, explaining that he wasn't very hungry. At first they refused then when I stood up to leave they finally budged but seriously this killed the night. The food was good not great and the policy ruined the experience. I won't be going back.

So ridiculously good. I have never have Persian food before and I'm glad I tried it here. The staff was very friendly. Our waiter gave great suggestions and was very hepful. The food was appropriately priced and the portions were huge. Not to mention, the food was very good. My friends ordered the salmon, the ground meat kabobs and the filet mignon. I had to try each dish in order to give an accurate review (or I was just greedy). Ha! I ordered a soup, thinking that I wasn't that hungry. But, as I ate it, I wished I had ordered more dishes. Overall, it was great. It doesn't necessarily have a date spot vibe to it, but it is a great place to hang out with friends.

  • lisa l.

I love this place!! The tahdig and eggplant borani are a must for me everytime I go. Took my sister and a couple of friends for dinner last night and they had run out of tahdig. The waiter saw my disappointment and said he would see what he could do. 10 minutes later, I had a freshly made dish. My hot tea and water were always refilled without me ever having to ask. The service is always great here!

  • Nahal H.

I ordered kabob, thinking it's a safe choice at any Persian restaurant, and to my surprise I get food poisoning. The food didn't taste right either, like Americanized Persian food. Overall a very bad experience. Looks like I'll have to go to West Wood for good Persian food!

  • Aerial A.

Came to this location twice for family outings and they had excellent food and service. The meat is so yummy! I normally prefer chicken to beef, but here the beef dishes are so tasty.

Ordered food to go got home %100 hands down DISAPPOINTED food was absolutely bland no seasoning at all the rice tasted weird I was so hungry but could not bring myself to finish this horrible meal I should have just went to in n out and I'm still hungry waste of time waste of money by the way it's not cheap!!! Don't mind paying if the food is good very disappointed I give this place two thumbs down and zero stars if possible

Great place for lunch! Generous portions and delicious food. You definitely get what you pay for and maybe even more. I had the yogurt dip- super yummy Chicken kabob lunch special- I asked for the rice to be substituted with salad and they gave a generous portion of salad. The dressing looked like it was thick and calorie heavy but it was light and yummy. The chicken kabob was well flavored. Really good actually. They also gave a complimentary vegetable soup. It was also good but too hot outside to eat. Will definitely return when I'm in the area!

    (5)
  • Ricky C.

Have had the chicken and beef koobideh and can confirm that it is some of the tastiest, juiciest dishes I've had. The value is there as they give you a lot for what you pay for. Very unassuming but very worth it.

  • Peter H.

I've been coming to this place for years and it never disappoints. I usually order the Barg/Koobideh combo and it's more than enough to feed 2. They start you off with endless pita bread and a plate of onions and mint and a complimentary garden salad. Entrees usually come out pretty quick and it comes out fresh, juicy and tasty every time. It usually takes a few minutes before eating the meat as you're busy putting some butter and the grilled tomato into your rice and mixing that all up. There is plenty of parking and plenty of indoor seating so you never have to wait to be seated. Service is also excellent and they're always attentive with free refills and to check in every now and then to see how things are. If you're in the area, or even if you aren't and looking for a great meal, give this place a try.

  • Shawn S.

Came here for the First time the other night, Man is the food good and super filling. I couldn't even order dessert. The Portions are huge, Big enough to share with another person and the Prices for what you get is really inexpensive. they sat us down right away and gave us menus and within 1 minutes we were greeted by the Waiter and ask for our drink order. after the drinks were delivered we ordered our food and everything came out so quickly fresh and Hot. the tastes here are perfect the quality of meats that they use are high grade and would expect to pay almost double from what we paid. The service is top notch and the owners are really nice as well.

Traveled into the valley to meet our family and was in the mood for some authentic Persian food! Luckily this restaurant came with a good recommendation. I had the #35 which is is a chicken and beef kabob served over basmati rice with grilled onions and tomatoes! Traditional but absolutely delicious. Also we had their cucumber you hurt and eggplant(something) goes great with their bread! The atmosphere was warm and inviting pull you could see slot of families and groups. Our server was attentive and always smiling. Ended up taking some to go as their portions were huge...not complaining! One full and happy yelper!

Love it here. I was super happy they had one right down the street from where I'm staying at on this trip to CA. Food is excellent and tasty, service is fabulous and fast. I still have left overs because the portions are BIG. We had the Beef Kabob Barg and the Chicken Barg entrees. Extremely satisfied and happy.

I have been coming here for awhile now, since I was a kid and to this day have not left disappointed. The food here is of excellent quality and the portions are enormous. You will never leave this restaurant wanting more because you will be stuffed beyond imagination. The employees are very attentive and friendly. Overall very great restaurant!

  • Sheyda S.

Not as good as Raffi's or Shaherezad's in my opinion. After seeing some rave reviews I thought I'd give this place a shot, but was disappointed in the muted flavor profiles in their dishes. The ghormeh sabzi needs more limu almani (dried lemon that is left in the stew) in my opinion, the kabob was also a little under-seasoned for me. My little sister got the badamjoon dish (they told her it would be like kashkeh badamjoon) and it was SWEET; something we've never experienced before - must be the Arabian influence more than the Iranian one there. Overall it was a very "meh" experience, but not BAD by any means. Maybe just not as "Iranian" as I'd hoped for; going to try House of Kabob next in my quest for great Iranian food in the valley!

Been ordering food here since 1998. My kids & I love their beef & chicken barg. The serving os big and the food is very good - it's worth the price! They also deliver which is another plus.

Yumba! So I'm a mixed girl and a part of that mix is Persian and I am so so so so picky about my Persian food. I am personally saying that this is the only Persian restaurant I will go to and ENJOY! I always get the fesenjoon and it never disappoints and vegetarians fear not! There is a whole page with vegetarian options which was helpful when I was one! The eggplant borani is to die for as well! Not to mention you get so many goodies that just come with your meal the bread, fresh herbs and salad! Every time I come in, I am welcomed with a smile and my choice to sit anywhere and the service is on point! The food comes out fast but so fresh and hot and delicious and everyone is so sweet! Coming here is such a memorable and awesome experience! As I've said before, this is the only Persian restaurant I will go to in LA and I wouldn't have it any other way!

  • Shant S.

By far the best Persian food i've ever had. I've been to even the "gourmet" places like Rafi's, and I swear by Shamshiri. I have been having lunch at this restaurant with my family for the past 20 years, and every single time we have left satisfied and full. My favorite plate would be the Chicken Lule or the Chicken Barg, but everything here is equally delicious and top notch.

  • Mohib Q.

I've come to Shamshiri's various locations since I was a kid, and distinctively remember demanding it for my birthday dinner whenever I could. On this occasion, my dad and I met at the Northridge location as it stayed open late and doesn't have a history of being packed, loud, or busy. In other words, it's a great place to have a conversation and find parking easily. I have ordered the staple Iranian beef koobideh plate. It comes with two juicy skewers of minced and flavored beef, a moderate supply of basmati rice (yellowed a bit at the top by food color), a grilled tomato (usually very juicy and tasty), and grilled onion. It's always consistent and the same. While I find their dish isn't as mind-blowing for the opinionated and picky koobideh connoisseurs, it does the job quite well. It will leave you full, and possibly taking some home if you chose. Now what does this stuff exactly taste like? Well, the fatty beef used is a minced mix with light herbs that are usually gushing with juices and (mostly) ground beef flavor. The herb flavor that will dominate the koobideh consists of onions and parsley. Combined with fluffy rice, you'll crave more of this comfort food. bit.ly/1hnwa2S I also tried the traditional persian ice cream with faloodeh. It's something I can eat every day of the week. You'll find that it's enough for two folks, and if you are splitting ask for more spoons. bit.ly/KpLIF7 I must note the service was slow on this occasion, and I found it hard to get the attention of the waitress. Had I been in a rush, this would have been aggravating. I plan to keep being a patron of this famed local chain, as I pledge allegiance to koobideh, one bodacious kabob, united by rice, and for all.

  • Mani T.

I have been going to this place and it's chain of restaurants for as long and far back as I can remember as a child growing up in the Northridge area so that being said the portions are amazing the food is fantastic the soltani is my recommendation. You're guaranteed to be full and happy when you leave this restaurant I definitely recommend this place.

Hands down the best salmon kabob ive ever had!!!!! It was a huge piece of grilled salmon with rice thats mixed with a whole bunch of green herbs!!!! sooooooo amazing! will be coming back here!!!!!

  • Elizabeth L.

My fiancé and I went in for lunch. He had barg and I had the beef koobideh. My question is.. Why is your beef gray color ??? What are you guys serving? If the place is as busy at it was when we there I would think you guys go thru a lot beef so there's no reason why the beef isn't fresh. Hope you all have good insurance when dining here.

I was craving for Persian food and yelped it. This listing had great ratings so I decided to check it out and ordered for dinner to go :P 1. Chicken Kabab (boneless skinless marinated chicken broiled served with broiled tomato, grilled onions, bell pepper and basmati rice): the chicken was great and juicy; they give you a lot of rice! 2. Bareh Kabab (Boneless marinated lamb ribeye skewered and broiled served with broiled tomoto, grilled onions, bell pepper and basmati rice): the lamb was cooked just right and not gamey at all! My husband said it's the best he's had! 3. Shirazy salad (diced cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and parsley): fresh and the dressing that came on the side was a little too sour but still good 4. Hummus: good and they gave a bag of pita bread :) The manager/owner are friendly and answered all questions I had and went over a few items on the menue with me. The restaurant is very spacious and clean. Located northeast of Roscoe Blvd. and Tampa Ave. Will definitely come back to try other items on their menu!

If you're looking for a low-key, straightforward Persian restaurant, then Shamshiri is a solid bet. I traditionally get Koobideh (ground beef) and Joojeh (chicken) and then judge the place based on these two skewers. The Joojeh was just alright, nothing worth writing home about, but the Koobideh was far better than I expected. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, but she had 3 different plates of veggies and was extremely satisfied. My only real knock on this place is that they didn't have feta cheese. Any self-respecting Persian restaurant needs to have feta cheese served with their bread. Its non-negotiable. Other than that, its a solid spot that I'll probably be revisiting soon.

I'm truly never disappointed with this spot! It's heaven in my mouth! I usually get the #40 which is the chicken Shamshiri it comes with chicken barg and a chicken koobideh but I opt for the beef koobideh instead! Rice is a ginormous in serving and also comes with a roasted tomatoes, onions and bell peppers!!!! Omg yummmm !!! Dine in and enjoy the house salad and endless pita! The staff is super friendly and they even have tapatio sauce for those that love the extra spice! Enjoy!!!

4 stars for the amount of food alone. Got the beef koobideh for pickup-took about 15 minutes. For about $12, I was given so much food! My container had a ton of rice, grilled onions/bell peppers/tomato, and 2 strips of meat. My order also came with 2 pitas, cubes of butter, raw onion, and a half ounce of sumac powder. The sumac powder was yummy to sprinkle over my food, but to be honest, I had no idea what to do with the raw onion. The koobideh was somewhat tough, but still very tasty. The rice was delicious, fresh, and fragrant. The pita was dry and lackluster. Overall, the food needed a side of hummus or yogurt sauce just because it can get too dry. Overall, great people, good food, large portions

I ate there for the first time and the Kabob was amazing. I had the Shamshiri kabob which is one koobideh (ground beef) and one barg (sirloin chunks) with white rice. The kabob was incredibly juicy, tender and delicious. My wife had chicken koobideh (ground chicken kabob) and it was good. She also had Lubia Polo which was okay. I would have given it five stars if it weren't for the slow service. But despite being slow, our server was nice.

We stopped here on the way to San Diego. The food was good, no complaints there. Hence, the four stars. Minus one star for the service (and I'm being generous here). Some older guy in a dress shirt and tie (the owner maybe?), walked over to us and literally threw two menus on our table without saying one word! Are you kidding me?! He basically treated us as if we walked into his store begging for free food! Throughout the rest of our lunch, the service continued to disappoint. We might have gotten a total of 10 words out of this guy. They were pretty slow to bring out our food and check as well. It's a shame, you've got good food, but terrible service. Will never come here again!

Superb! My girlfriend and I ordered the tadig and chicken kabob. The chicken of course was great, and the ghormeh sabzi I'm still thinking about, days later. The atmosphere was quiet, and the wait staff was not intrusive, which made for a more enjoyable eating experience. I used to go to this place with my dad when he was alive, and it brought back fond memories. Not the fanciest place, but the food is authentic and delicious.

This place is so good! Their serving size got smaller but great authentic Persian food. The service is not the best but the food makes up for it. Been coming here for 15 years!

BOMB! I've been going here since I was a little kid and I'll be taking my kids here, if I ever have any because the food is excellent. The location is old but don't judge. The staff is also very nice. I suggest going there earlier in the day so you can pig out without having to feel guilty because Persian food is very filling. The portions are big so you can always share and they include a dinner salad when you order a kabob dish. When youre done grubbing, just sit back and have a cup of hot tea to keep you from going into a food coma...yes you will need a nap after!

The food here is just..... Spectacular! Amazing, mouth watering. My beautiful Persian friend has been telling me to go to West LA for real awesome mouth watering food. But I gotta tell u, if u come here; u won't be disappointed. Large portions and very good.

Lowkey spot, the food is alright, but the service is the worst in my life. It was also pretty annoying how I was fighting flies away from me, kinda gross. This place needs a serious cleaning. The service makes it impossible for me to come back.

Shamshiri is one of my favorite Persian restaurants. If you like really good Persian food, then this the place for you. The portion size is huge. One serving is enough for 3 people. They give complimentary pita bread, grilled onion and tahdig (burnt rice). But if you don't like a bad parking lot and rude service, then you might want to think twice about coming here. Even though the restaurant was recently remodeled and expanded, I never dine in. The service comes with the typical Persian attitude from the servers. I only order food to go but I have my mom call them to place the order because she speaks Farsi fluently and I don't. The last time I ordered take out on the phone and went to pick it up, they wouldn't take my credit card because my order was less than $10 so they wanted me to pay in cash which I didn't have. They didn't tell me on the phone that I had to pay in cash for orders less than $10. After arguing back and forth the Persian waitress finally accepted my credit card. Really embarrassing and annoying experience for me. A few days ago I had my mom place an order of my favorite dish Ghormeh Sabzi. After I picked it up and went home, I noticed that they overcharged me. On the menu, it says $12.50 but on receipt it says $12.95. I know it's only a few cents but I don't like being overcharged. Even though the food is great, I'm really disappointed in Shamshiri.

This is my go to place. Oh wait I call up and get it to go. They probably know our order by now. We just give them my phone number and bam they already know my name .I feel like the dude from Cheers except this is not a bar.. I like the food here .The beef koobideh is my dish.(hope I spelled it right) The dish besides the beef and abundance of rice.comes with the pita bread grilled onions, bell pepper, and tomato , Even though my stomach says stop eating you are fool my brain tells me to keep on eating its to tasty to stop.. I have yet to try another dish. But there is always another day

Food was ok,place needs some work, but the main issue was the level of service. I think it was the actual owner too. I was charged for an extra plate, I brought it to his attention and he snapped at me that there was no issue. I calculated it and showed it again. He later brought over like $8, and said that is all he is giving back. I admit I didnt tip took my $8 with pride. He wronged me and was embarasssed.

Well. I came in once before a few years ago and it was ok. Wanted to give them another try last night and I really regret it. I came home only to find that the eggplant borani was spoiled, the mast o khyar runny, the tomatoes in my green salad mushy, the beef kabob super dry/chewy, and rice flavorless. I should've stuck with my go to persian restaurants, which are farther from me but so worth it especially after wasting my money on inedible food :(

  • Arik T.

Have you had the beef koobideh from here? What the hell do they put in there cocaine? Its so freaking addictive! Really really good! Every time I have it here I am never disappointed. And the lunch special is an amazing deal! $7.95 for a skewer of koobideh, soup or salad, and pita bread for the table. Excellent food and service, I've been coming here with my dad for lunch for years, and it has never ever changed...between us I hope they never do!

A favorite Persian food place. Portion's generous - one meal you can share. It's hole-in-the-wall place that we always love to go to whenever we have that craving for kebob and basmati rice. We had tried koobideh - ground meet skewer; lamb chops - big portions and very very tender!; white fish - tender, perfectly cooked juicy fish - with basmati rice with dill and fava beans (sabzi polo); filet mignon kebob; chicken kebob. Try their tahdig - it's a crispy basmati rice - the crisp that you usually get at the bottom of the pan when cooking rice. Fantastic! They top it with two (or more?) of your favorite stew. We usually get the gorme sabzi.

I highly recommend you look elsewhere to eat. This is the worst restaurant of any kind I have ever had the displeasure of being to. I say that, because I literally could not any of the food that they brought to the table. $45 later, I ran out of there.

I'm not sure why the 2 times I ordered everyone was extremely rude to me I spoke Persian and English the operator thinks I owe him money In any case they also charge minimum of 5.00 per delivery which they will not tell you unless you ask now what's the maximum depends on what mood they are I guess I'm not sure if it says in their website I don't care either way I'm not calling them again The bread was old very old (dried pita) some of you know what I'm saying! For 2 sultanies they gave me one piece of onion very small I had asked for extra mokgalafat I got not enough for my order!! Also the food sucked there was a piece of huge onion in my koobideh (I love onion and don't care but this shows lack of caring in proportion I wonder if the wash their hand !!! (Picture below) In any case I'm usually easy going but not in my FOOD ! Il take my wining ass business other place next time the rest of you GOOD LUCK!!

My first impression was, "Passed by this plaza so many times, and I never thought there'd be such good Persian/Iranian food so nearby." Truly a hidden gem, I first tried this restaurant during what seemed like their renovation stage. They have great prices for how much food you get, and its all paired with their complimentary salad, pita bread, and traditional raw vegetables and herbs. Their Basmati Rice was so fluffy, and with a mix of some melted butter, it was the perfect base to a wonderful meal. The Koobideh tastes very homemade, fresh, and flavorful. The whole broiled tomato also goes great with this whole plate. I also enjoyed their Eggplant Borani (mashed eggplant, onion, garlic, with yogurt dip), and the Mast O'Khiar (yogurt with cucumber and mint dip). I love the pita bread and both the savory Eggplant Borani and the refreshing, cold Mast O'Khiar. The lasting impression? "It'll definitely fill you up, it's Persian comfort food that won't disappoint. One of the best 'hidden gems' on my list."

Great place for lunch. Four of us went, less than $50 with the tip. Salad dressing light and citrusy, pita was fresh, service exceptional and attentive. I had the vegetable noodle soup, excellent, and the fesenjan (walnut / pomegranate puree) with chicken -- wow, amazing! Highly recommend, will absolutely go there again!

Went today for lunch, had the chicken kabob with cherry rice. I haven't eaten here since 1987. They give you more food than any one person can eat. Service was slow, took over 15 mins to have the waiter come take our food order, We didn't eat all day waiting for this meal. I also had the Ash_Reshteh soup, needed salt but still very good. Parking can be tough but all in all it was pretty good, would come again.

I'm a big fan of the Shamshiri in Westwood, so I thought I'd give this location a try. I'm sorry to say they're no match with Westwood. The food is good, but no where nearly as superb as the Westwood location. Also, the atmosphere in Northridge is simple and functional, but again nothing special. The one nice thing I liked here at the Northridge location is that they include a nice salad with each entree, which no other Persian restaurant that I've ever been to does. All in all, this is a good restaurant if you enjoy Persian food, but it's nothing special.

Not sure what's up with the yelp reviews for this place - my experience wasn't even close to what others have written. I LOVE Persian food and was extremely disappointed with the food here. It was very bland and just didn't taste right. I RARELY not like Persian food at restaurants but this place did it! The service was not good either. The server came once to take our drink order and then 20 minutes later to take our food order. That was it. The food was served by others and no one came by to see if we needed anything else. Seriously, so disappointed.

Came here once and will never come again. Paid with a credit card and they stole my information. They purchased high end purses and quicly racked up a bill in the thousands. I never use the credit card anywhere else. Credit card co confirmed charges came in right after the restaurant. Worst of all it was def from someone at the restaurant. I had a clear line of sight from my table to the register. My card never exchanged hands.

Food here is amazing. Chicken, beef, rice is hands down the best ; howeve, the service is awful. Not polite. Not welcoming. I suggest just order out. Enjoy it at home because this place really does have great food. It's probably my favorite place to eat, has been for over 20 years

Best Persian restaurant I've been to by far. I love the food here so much. Their meat and basmati rice is fantastic and their service is wonderful. I'm so happy every time I come here I'm pretty much a regular! I will always come here for some delicious Persian food.

Service sucks here specially if you get the bimbo who has been there forever. Too slow even when the place is empty. They also serve precooked leftover kababs and lie like idiots about it being fresh. Never again.

  • Justine Y.

Haven't been here in awhile, so it was nice to be back. Their chicken kabob is great, and their portions are huge so you can share. It was nice to see that they are expanding the place. One thing is that they should make sure their front door stays closed, especially when their own workers smoke outside. The smoke comes in and it's not very tasteful while eating their soup of the day.

Have eaten here dozens of times. Almost always very crowded, once was "asked-told" to change tables to accommodate a large party. No prblm, wait staff trdtnly all male as rude as the owner, they are always in a hurry. But rudeness aside food is amazing! I challange anyone to find a scrap of meat left on the bones after i get through my order of shishlick. And you will be saying: sheesh there is nothing left to lick on my bone. Portions are HUGE probly enough for two pple to share but once you taste you will end up fighting for last piece. Let's not forget the greatest appetizer called Borani. Mixture of eggplant and onions and garlic and God knows what other herbs and spices. Had this dish at other Prsian restrnts they just cant compare to Shamshiri's.

Can't find a better Persian food place for the price. One of the few good restaurant options in the valley. Aging myself but does anybody remember when they had carpeted flooring? They've been in business for many years for a reason. The food is top notch.

Great food for a great price! Favorite dish: Koobideh (especially for lunch during Lunch Specials) Serve radish and onion with Pita and butter to start and then a salad (I LOVE the lemon dressing they provide) and then the main dish with, of course, a ton of rice but also a ton of koobideh! Cooked excellently with a very friendly atmosphere.

Two stars for the food. But the service was bad. Walked in noone acknowledge us for about 3 mins .. We didn't know wether we should seat ourselves or not because we usually call in an order to pick it up. After we were seated took them 5mins to take out order. After we got our food noone came back to check on us. Very poor service ..

I should definitely go more often to this place but I haven't had many opportunities to go. This is a great little shamshiri Persian steak place. They give you very large portions of Persian steak, kabobs, veggies and amazing Persian rice. The Pros 1. Very large helpings of persian steak. I can't think of anyone that can finish one of their steaks. The Cons 1. They don't give you any kind of condiments, like ketchup, barbacue sauce or anything so yeah... alot of steak. The price is also $10 or more but it is alot of food so the money is worth it but you can't eat there often because of the price I think.

  • Allison M.

Staff did not make eye contact with me once during the hour I was there (including while "greeting" me or while taking my order). My dad, who thankfully speaks Farsi, had to loudly flag the server over to refill our tea cups each time we ran out. The meal ended with the check being slammed onto our table as the server sped by without ever slowing down to engage us. I might consider giving this restaurant more of my future business if the food were something special, but it's just not.

Wonderful food, my man and I are regulars here. I recently picked up some food to go and was also surprised by how loud the new Zumba class a few doors down was. As I was walking back to my car (and could hear it outside in full force) I realized the people in that Zumba class are both losing weight and their hearing at the same time. O_O

I give 5 stars to one dish not the restaurant overall because theres one dish I tried n I loved it so much that i cant resist and that dish is the chicken kubidah (ground chicken). Place has been around for over20 years and although I have not tried other dishes from my observation of other patrons the food seems to be quite popular. My bf has been coming for years. there are 3 locations [ westwood, glendale and reseda). Reseda has is the best location.

The place has some of the best food in town, if you like Persian food this place hit it home. There menu is great the food is amazing. The place is nice inside. The neighbor hood is ok. Parking is a little tough . But otherwise great place to eat. The people have become nicer, the waiters are nice the people who take your money are ok.

It's been several years since my last visit, and I was disappointed. The service was poor. The owners only are attentive to customers that they know. If your new to the restaurant, you don't get any attention after they serve you. The food was just average. The chicken kebob was dry and lacked flavor. Shamshiri Grill is not the same restaurant that I remember from years ago. I rather spend a little bit more and go to Raffi's Place in Glendale.

I had given this place four stars and was a great fan, but not sure what happened with the food, it literally is inedible. We ordered the combo which is the Barg and Looleh for a get together at the house and it was embarrassing, the guests barely ate and we ended up throwing a couple of hundred dollars worth of food out, the meat disintegrated in your mouth, it was grainy and tasted like grease. This is my old review: Persian food is one of my favorites, it's in my top 10 choices. Shamshiri has been around for a long time. The food is yummy, The service is not something to brag about.

Been going here for over 10 years, they made alot of improvements to their decore. parking still sucks but oh well. Portions are huge. Be prepared to share. The salmon is always off the hook, you get side salad with all the fixing. Hummus and yogurt sauce is a must!!! Only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars is sometimes the staff is a hit or miss. Love the food. Never a disappointment

Wow. Five stars for the delicious food, one star for the TOTALLY poor service, averaged out to a generous three stars. We were ignored completely after the delivery of the food. No water refills, no offer of anything else, *nothing*... Been there before and had no issues, but the service this time was horrible. Had to go to the cash register for a take out box and the check! We'll go back, but will be prepared to ask for proper service...

So I'm out in the middle of the valley, and wanted to have dinner with a friend. I'm out there like.......never. So I yelp, and I find this Persian restaurant is right around the block. Instantly seated, I ordered the Shamshiri (their namesake), which included two kabobs, the ground beef, and the tenderloin. The tenderloin was super tender, and my fork was able to cut right through it with little resistance. The ground beef was seasoned to absolute perfection. The basmati rice was ON POINT, and down right tasty. Portions: freakin huge. I would have been able to split the Shamshiri for two people (in fact, I took half home). So.....in conclusion....freaking far, but if you're in the area, well worth it.

Everyday, for lunch, this restaurant has a different "special," usually a half portion of some stew from the dinner menu. It is noted on the lunch menu as Daily Special. Ask the waiter (he looks like he'll bite, but he's actually pretty nice), and he'll let you know what it is. And on any given Friday, at lunch time, you can find me here, chomping away on their lamb shank, which is cooked in that special way that makes the meat just fall off the bone. It is divine. I recommend also getting a side of their yogurt. It is pretty refreshing and complements everything on the menu. Cheers!

I love Persian food at this restaurant. My brother-in-law is Persian and the we come here for family events. I really enjoy the free appetizers: warm pita bread with side of butter, plate of raw onion, fresh basil/mint, and lastly the fresh light salad. Their entrees come with 2 kabobs and are huge!!! enough to feed 2 hungry people. My husband gets the chicken breast kabob and I get the beef. Juicy and delicious.

I'd have to say their food is consistently good, never had a bad moment. I'm not a big fan of the service here. It doesn't alway feel very welcoming. Customer Service is a big thing for me which is probably why I didn't give it another star or 2. I've been here about 3 other times and it's always the same. This location is a bit hard to find only because it sits behind some old fairy tale lookin buidling. BOTTOM LINE: Good Food.

Great for big parties as portion size are huge but you can always take home leftovers as you will want more later. Hummus, chicken, steak, beef, rice, veggies, and salad makes for a complete meal to share with your whole family and friends.

My family has been coming here close to 25 years. Shamshiri has consistently delicious food, and an overwhelmingly helpful and polite staff. I moved to San Diego around 6 years ago and whenever I come back to the valley I always need to hit up Shamshiri for a #35 Barg. If you are looking for great Persian food in the valley, go to Shamshiri

This is a update to a previous review. I have returned to the restaurant several times since my last review and I must admit, they have improved a great deal! You now see more smiles, no more Ms. Attitude and they have learned to say thank you. The food is better than before. They no longer over cook it where it is dried out. It is nice and moist. We usually order the chicken koobadeh and the beef shamshiri and they are excellent now. Love it with their basmati rice and grilled tomatoe, bell pepper & onions! They have started serving the salad again at no additional charge, which is great & delicious! They serve the Arabic bread with butter, onions, mint leaves and sumac, which is also very delicious as long as the bread comes nice, fresh & hot!. This place is wonderful! The portions a very good size and very well worth the money. I hope they never change. I love this place. I could eat here everyday and never get tired of it! Love it! Love it! Love it! Keep it up!

The food here is delicious and cheap. Even if you were strapped for cash, you could probably still afford this place. If you can't afford to pay $7.95 for a buttload of yummy food AND tip, then maybe you shouldn't be eating out anyway. Or maybe you should carry it out. But the problem here is the service. Frequently impatient, sometimes rude. It's hard to get a refill. But you know what? I put up with it, because the food here is delicious and you get LOTS of it. I did get frowny faced when I found out that they don't have their lunch specials during the holiday season

Great service, pretty good food, with the exception of the salad shirazi because they use way too much lemon, but the kebabs, stews and rices are all good. This is like Persian fast food, but very yummy. The location and actual restaurant are not much to look at, but overall good place to eat.

Shamshiri is one of our family favorites. I'll go so far as to say it's a staple for us! We get the usual 3 orders: Beef Koobideh Kabob, Boneless Chicken Kabob, and the Grilled Salmon over beautiful basmati rice or the other rice types that they offer. It's 50-50 for the number of times we order to-go or eat in, both of which are excellent choices. You must try this place. They have one location in Northridge and another in Westwood and the plates are huge and just so crave worthy. If you do decide to eat in, you'll get a choice of soup or salad with your entree, even for the lunch specials. I personally prefer the salad, with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, but it's the dressing that makes it. Now, a lot of people can't handle this dressing, which is why they probably keep it on the side. It's really really sour, but I love it! I do I do I do. You'll also get complimentary pita bread, so if you don't like the salad there you go. It's warm pita and tastes great with just butter! Tip: if you stick the butter packs in the pita, they'll be softened and ready to put in your rice when your entree comes out (my dad likes to do this). When my sister and I were younger, we used to have eating contests here. The plates are so huge it's no wonder I gained 10 pounds during this time!! I always used to get the Beef Koobideh, which is a beef and veal blend, and now sometimes I like getting the salmon. Note: the koobideh has a very strong flavor so beware! Beef or salmon, the white and yellow soft basmati rice complements them so well. Thank you Persians for these amazing foods! I like my Shamshiri with pepsi or coke, by the way, and you might too. On a last note, enjoy this place but don't feel like you have to finish your meal. The salad, pita, and the plates that can feed 2 might make you feel so bloated and put you in a food coma. With great pleasure, I am happy to share this place with you!

This was the first place I ever experienced Persian food. I instantly fell in love. This is one of my main choices and I still frequent it on the regular. Amazing food, ok prices, friendly staff. Not my favorite place to dine at, but that wont stop me from getting take out.

Love this place!!! Delicious Persian food! Good prices & quantities. Service is good... very nice people who work there. I don't know if they are all family, but always make me and my guests feel at home.

$10 for a REALLY large amount of food, wow! The Chicken Koobideh is delicious and I ordered a large container of hummus for only $3.50. The Ghormeh Sabzi doesn't come vegetarian, only veal so I couldn't order it. This is very much a hole-in-the wall strip mall kind of place so not much of a date spot. But if you want somewhere consistent with good prices and great food you have found your spot! I walked in and ordered and was given a drink while I waited. 15 minutes later my food was packed up for me and ready to go. Food is five stars, but one star less for the atmosphere. Great customer service, manager cares, and the beef koobideh is bomb.com .

Good food to value ratio. This is the palce to go when my wife and I are craving Persian food. The Northridge branch is the "not so pretty" sister as compared to the Westwood branch (aesthetic-wise), but the food is the same. I like the beef or chicken shamshiri (both the koobedeh and barg). The portions are very generous. One tip: the salad dressing can be sour, apply sparingly.

As the saying goes, if you want good Japanese food, go to where the Japanese locals eat. In this case, Persians eat here so the food must be good. That is definitely the case here. We had dinner here on a Saturday when they usually have their grilled fish special (as I understand it's only available on Saturdays and Sundays), which is usually salmon or a kind of white fish. I've had their white fish before and it was fresh and good, cooked just right and not dry, same like the salmon that we had this time. We also got the chicken kabob, barg, and koobideh (beef) kabob which were all great and juicy. Being a rice eater all my life (like breakfast, lunch, and dinner) also made me rejoice that rice is an important part of their dishes. Their basmati rice which goes with each order is very fragrant and fluffy, and it also comes with grilled red bell peppers, grilled tomatoes, and grilled onions on the side. Great price with big portions, too. Dish prices average about $10.00 with a few at about $14.00. For me, this is the best Persian food in San Fernando Valley. The waiter is also nice and efficient. We were served the salad and warm pita bread with butter on the side at about 5 minutes after he took our order. Casual, no frills dining here. For dinner, best time to come is early evening like around 6 pm so you could surely get a table fast because it gets full early.

Pretty good. My favorite is their beef koobideh. They serve you complimentary fresh salad (with their special house dressing) and warm pita bread along with raw veggies and butter to customize your carbolicious appetizer. But there is one thing I'm not too fond of, and it's their rice. I wish it was a tad moister and fluffier.

This place is sooooooooooo good!!!! I've been coming here since I was a little girl with my parents (were Hispanic btw) because of its location you wouldn't think so but you just have to give it a chance. The portions are huge! And the meat is always so juicy and tender! No matter if you get the ground beef (koobideh) chicken, lamb, steak it's all delicious! The waiters are men who are friendly and prompt, also the last time I went they were expanding it. Parking is great! food Is great! Service is wonderful! Overall love this place! Btw my bf is middle eastern and he said its the best he's ever tried! And he is a bigger foody than I am!

i've been twice and loved it both times. we had the lamb chops and chicken, with the lamb reigning supreme. the price was excellent and the service was great. i will definitely make the trip from simi just to eat here...and with gas prices being what they are, that says a lot!

ZOMG I LOVE THIS PLACE !! I was first brought here by one of my guy friends, and I was very hesitant when it came to trying this place out. This was 7 years ago mind you, and to my surprise it was sooooooo damn good ! My friends were armenian and russian so they taught me how to properly dress up my food and I fell in love from that point on. I always order the Chicken Koobideh and most of the time I'm with my sister and mom who orders the Kabob and we trade one each. It is so much food for the little price. I want to say it's about $10 for my order. It comes with the dressings for the food, pita bread, salad, and I always get an order of hummus. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoy this place. The owners and staff are always very happy and are very attentive. I've never had a problem here. As I'm writing this review I'm craving this place and I can just smell the food .. mmmmm YUMMM !! It is in a little strip mall on the corner of Roscoe and Tampa. Parking is limited, but I've always found a spot. I need to go back and visit again soon. I've missed it way too much !!

Leftover report: AWESOME. Didn't think it was possible, but the Shirin Polo rice was even tastier day II... and I had just enough sauce from the chicken to make 2 full servings uber tasty. Not sure what the powdered seasoning was they included with my order, but it's so good I'm saving the leftovers to add to... anything. Mmm mm good!

I used to go to this place quite often a few years back. Then I changed jobs and it wasn't in the area. Well, the other day a friend suggested that we go there, and now that I'm back in the area I said Oh Yeah, that place is killer. Wow!!! I forgot how good it really is... Eggplant Borani... INSANE! I never knew this but they have Salmon... WOW! Lentil rice with Dates, white raisins, and currents... WOW! Not the fanciest joint on the block, but for the money you can't even come close to that plate of food. Small eaters... order the lunch portions It's like your dinner portions at home and then some... GO there!

I went here for lunch and it was really good. The food was outstanding, why no 5 stars? The service was brutal, waited 5 minutes for water after I was seated. Then I couldn't waive anyone down to get my check. So if service is important here than pass but the generous portion and the food was great. Tucked away in a shitty little strip mall, you'd never know it was here. I will be back.

Okay, if you love the Shamshiri in Westwood, there is another location in the Valley. I am not encouraging you to drive out here, but just letting you know that there is another location. Located in a nondescript strip mall near a Cuban grocery store and a Mexican food stand on the corner of Roscoe Blvd and Tampa Ave, Shamshiri-Northridge serves the same Persian fare at a far better price than its more popular Westwood branch. The dinner portion of the Beef or Lamb Koobideh at the Westwood branch is priced at $14.95. The Valley branch dinner portion of the same dish is priced at $9.95. Almost everything at this place it's a tad cheaper. Now is it worth driving to the valley to save a couple bucks... probably not, but if you are already in the Valley this is a viable option for a decently priced meal. The portions and quality are exactly the same as their Westwood counterpart. If you are not morbidly obese or extremely high, you will leave with leftovers, I promise. The great thing about both branches is that they serve gargantuan dinner portions and you definitely get your bang for your buck. Each dinner is adequate enough to serve two people. They will charge you a small fee if you opt to split an entrée. But don't sweat it, as it will be saving you money in the long run. The service is not the same as the Westwood branch, as your server will not try and sell you a bottle of sparkling water or wine at the beginning of your meal. In fact, I'm not sure if this place even sells alcohol. But other than the barrage of up selling, the service is adequate and gets the job done for the most part. I do recommend the Persian hot tea with a few sprigs of fresh mint and a single sugar cube, so good it almost makes up for the lack of alcoholic beverages. Get the Shishlick (Grilled Lamb Chops) or the Beef Koobideh... you will not regret it. Delicious Persian food at a great price. Recommended (If you are in the Valley)

The best Kabob I have ate in my life. I always get the lunch menu Shesh Kabob. I love it and I took my coworkers there. They loved it too. Keep up the good taste.

Delicious, perfectly seasoned kabob. Portions large enough to feed three people. Reasonable prices. Shamshiri is now my go to Persian spot in the Valley. This is a no frills kind of place. The food takes center stage and does not disappoint. Arrived at 2:30 and the restaurant was almost full. Many patrons looked to be of middle eastern decent which speaks to the authenticity of Shamshiri. I look forward to returning and trying more dishes. Thanks to my friend who recommended this restaurant and made the meal even more enjoyable. Check please! ;-)

The place was good. They've changed since I was there in the late 80s. My Kubideh was not as tasty as I had wished. I think it was cooked a little longer than usual. No liquor license but we went to the liquor store next door and bought a bottle of wine and drank it in the restaurant.

My friend told me about this awhile back and told me to try this place. Good portions, good price. I must say, he didn't lie to me. Thank you Chris! I hope you see this! haha. Been here back and forth just writing a review now?! Crap, I'm thinking about the food here and I'm dying. aha. Yes, I do love the beef and chicken koobideh. It's the typical dish, but good golly it's good!! The saffron rice accompanied by it is delectable!! :P I wanted to get the stew with the orange sauce so I asked the waiter and he recommended an entree. I forgot what it was, but it came with dates in the rice. Not too bad, but it wasn't the one I was looking for. I'm on a mission to find that dish cause I used to work for this lady and her husband made some bomb ass chicken stew!! I need to go back here again and again and again. :) I wished this was closer though.. all good the drive is worth it!

Been coming here ever since I can remember! and thats a long time! parents would bring me here when i was a baby. I would say its the best Persian food in the valley, even better than the Westwood location. Not only do they have delicious food, the prices are very reasonable considering how huge the portions are. Overall ur getting the best price for any Persian cuisine anywhere.

This place USED to be good, like 10 years ago. Dont believe the hype. Plenty of other places I'd spend my money on for better quality and no buyers remorse. The kabob barg has been consistently undercooked, chewy and just tasteless. The koobideh is uneventful, both chicken and meat. The veggies are always burned, and the rice is dry. Basically, go somewhere else.

    (2)
  • Susan A.

Some of the best Iranian/Persian food I've ever had. Meat was juicy and tender. And although I'm Indian and we tend to dump all of the saffron on the rice, I still like theirs with how they just put enough to get some flavor out of it. I like to think of it as healthier (at least I hope it is!). And I don't if it was cherry or pomegranate powder, but that was pretty bomb too.

I've been going to Shamshiri for well over 10 years. My go to items are beef koobideh and shirazi salad. Check out their lunch deals, too! I either call in and pick up or sometimes if I'm lazy, I call and they deliver. Love it!

Had a great experience for Friday night dining out. Just like that other dude said, rolled in there, place was pretty full, but there were a couple of tables left, and got seated pretty fast, blinked-and then there was pita bread with butter, onions, fresh mint, and radishes (also learned that pita + butter + fresh mint = [BLEEP]-ing good!!!). Had a bowl of Ash-E-Reshte soup, order of Dolmeh, girlfriend had the Shish Kabab plate, I had the Shamshiri plate (figured it would have to be pretty GD good if they named the joint after it!). Food was delicious and there was no shortage of it. Waiter was friendly, and wasted no time gettin to our order, just don't be shy if you need something. Dining room was clean, not too claustrophobic, chill vibe, parking right out front...definitely looking forward to next visit.

5 stars for Shamshiri in Northridge! A star for the abundant amount of delicious food (they don't skimp on portions here) A star for the great service for both dining in and take-out A star for the mouth watering kabobs & fluffy rice A star for the variety their menu offers A star for the many fabulous meals I always enjoy here

It is my first time trying Persian food and I really love it! This place is not very busy, but it got crowded later in the afternoon. The appetizers are delicious! I love hummus and pita bread, they are wonderful. Try not to eat too much because the main dish is very large! I was overwhelmed by the rice, but you can bring the leftovers home. You can bring the appetizers home too! I ordered chicken kabobs and chicken was great. Try one with filet mignon! It's pricey, but it is worth your money. I would come back to this place. :) My goal is to finish the entire dish, but it is impossible.

If you want some good kabob at VERY reasonable prices, this is the place to go. My family has been ordering takeout from here for years now, and it has always been amazing. It's great for those days when you don't feel like going through the trouble to make your own kabobs and just want to stuff yourself. Their portions are huge so you get quite a lot for your money. Shamshiri gets 5 stars from me for their good food and great prices. You can order by phone and go pick up your order in 20 minutes or so.

For more than two years now, every time my boyfriend and I get a craving for some Persian food we visit Shamshiri. Between the two of us, we have tried almost every dish. I am Iranian so I know our food and I can tell you that they do a job well worth your money. You might not see this place because it is hidden behind a large flower shop so when you see the flower shop just turn into the plaza What you should definitely try here: -Fesenjoon with chicken -kabab koobideh -Ash -Appetizers (but stay away from the dolmeh because it is from the cans and the tahdig which is the crispy rice is sometimes too crispy) -They have homemade yogurt drinks as well as the bottled carbonated ones, I love their homemade one so try it if you like yogurt drinks PROS: -large parking lot -Relatively quick service -Prices are decent, not the cheapest but the food is worth it -Great portions (I nearly always have some left overs) -The meals come with salad and my favorite dressing (home-made) -They have a pretty good menu, all the standards like Koobideh and chicken etc. and the more exotic features such as my favorite khoresht Fesenjoon -Good place to bring a non-Iranian to try Persian cuisine CONS: -I am all for family owned hole in the wall restaurants and that's why we keep coming back but I wish they would invest in some better chairs and tables -The decor is none existent asides from some frames hanging on the walls. I can think of sooo many ways to add a flair to this place but I guess they don't really care much for ambiance since they have a pretty large customer base -The waiter/waitress could be a little friendlier. They are not rude or anything but a smile would be nice once in a while. At times we have to wait a while for them to come by and check in to see about refills. I know they are busy but I want to be able to tip them well and they don't make it easy -Bathroom is all the way in the back and it is not a comfortable customer friendly restroom. -I wish I could give them 5stars but they are not consistent with the food and this is my biggest complaint, the rest I can move past. Sometimes it almost seems like they are warming food up in the microwave. The Ash is not warm enough and for soup that's a no no. Don't let any of the cons deter you from trying this place. My suggestion: Get take out! It's the best way to experience the food without the cramped space and moody attitudes Enjoy! I think I'm going to get some Persian food today:D

If you live in the valley and wanna host your party with some middle eastern goodies than call Shamshiri and order!! Always more than enough food and the delivery has always been on point for me. We had an issue one day where my bro took off with the money right before they showed up with our food. The delivery guy hung out for a good 20ish minutes (my fault ya ya) and showed no sign of impatience or annoyance. Great attitude makes for great service Never had any problems with this place, service was always great, and food was always amazing. Not one complaint in all the years I've been eatin/ordering from here

I work very close to this restaurant and my family has had catering done from them for a number of events. Until one day, someone who works in the area told me that they went here with a friend on the weekend and ordered some soup for lunch. As he was eating his soup, he saw something that made him lightheaded, stunned, and sick to his stomach: there was a DEAD COCKROACH laying in the bottom of his soup bowl!!!!! He was so shocked upon seeing it he almost passed out from disgust! The owner came and apologized and offered him free food for a month, however, he did not take him up on this offer. Ever since that story, my friend, my family, and I have not eaten here. I understand accidents happen, but that is just unforgivable.

Mmmmm mmmmm tasty! 1 plate is definitely enough to share... When sharing, I like to get the Shamshiri plate and add a chicken koobideh. Have tried other Persian places, but this one seems to have the best quality rice/meats. Everything is perfectly spiced and cooked.

My wife and I were craving Persian food and i saw some pretty positive reviews here on Yelp. Overall we were pretty satisfied. I had the Shamshiri combo which came with a large piece of barg, a lule kabob and a generous serving of white& yellow basmati rice. The portion size was huge. I had enough for lunch the next day. My wife had the chicken Shamshiri combo which is the same as what I had only in the chicken variety. Same sized portion and again enough for lunch the next day. The beef was very tasty but could have been more aggressively seasoned for my taste. The chicken plate was the same, may have needed a tad more seasoning. To start the meal we split the ASH-E-RESHETH soup. After adding some salt and pepper it was a mild yet tasty soup. We ordered hummus which was perfectly simple. The bread provided for the meal was ordinary store bought pita. The service did lack and the restaurant was not busy when we were there. I will definitely go back due to quality ingredients, portion size and authenticity of the menu.

Went to Shamshiri for the first time. The food was blah, big portions though. Beef was the worst, very chewy. Rice was salty and old. Yogurt was pretty good. During our dinner the staff decided to clean the windows and floors, stinking up the whole place with strong floor cleaner smell. Service SUCKED! Probably not going back.

Well, it was a good run, but I'm moving on. My family has ordered from this place numerous times since it's pretty much right next door to us. The lunch prices are decent, and the amount of food is satisfying. And service is speedy. BUT the problem (just about every time we order) is that everything is charred! Not the in the "yum! cooked to perfection char" sense, but in the "this might be detrimental to my health" sense. We always get the beef koobideh and we can bet the meat, the peppers, onions and tomato will each be surrounded by a ring of black. Not very appetizing. Time to expand my horizons, even it means going to a place that's more than 2 minutes away.

Friday night was a religious gathering at our place, and we were expecting around 40-45 people, mainly adults. I would normally prepare apps and enough food for everyone, but since Im not really feeling well right now, we decided to cater this event. I heard a lot about Shamshiri and wanted to give it a try. The food was piping hot and smelled unbelieveable, couldnt wait to rip into it! But being a nice host, I let the guests go ahead :( We had a huge tray of fragrant rice (sorry, cant recall the name) but you MUST try it, it has tons of raisins, dried cherries and green lentils along with cashews and a faint aroma of saffron and butter. I normally dislike raisins in my food, but this dish quickly changed my opinion and I now regret all these years I've waisted on my narrow mindedness. This ought to be a lesson for you all, if you think you hate it or even dispise it, you might actually end up loving it to death. SO TRY IT!! For the meat eaters, we had a tray with half lamb shikh kabobs and half with lamb steaks (since they only have lamb as halal meat, the chicken, beef and eveything else is not halal). I cant comment on the taste, because I didnt have a chance to try it. I like my meat medium, with a pink center, but my guests all prefer their meat cooked to the point to petrification......and I cant stand for that. Its sacrilege to let something thats already dead to die more and more! Eww. But, I can vouch for the tastiness of it because it was an empty tray by the 23rd minute of unveiling it, and my guests were very happy with it. The meat was garnished with charred roasted bell peppers, onions and tomatoes along with dresh bunches of mint, basil and cilantro. It was so good. Im glad I trusted my instinct and got this fruity-nutty rice, because Im craving it now and I hope someone can pick me up a plate!

This place is sooooo good! On my list to go when I visit my parents in Canoga. I usually order the koobideh (both chicken and beef). Love the rice and grilled vegetables w/it. Love the sald and tangy dressing. The pitas are served warm and it comes w/butter, raw onions and beets, and mint and thai leaves.. We also order the hummus too. You don't come here for the ambiance, it's pretty clean but plain. The food is great and the prices reasonable.!

Hmm, what can I say..... This location of this restaurant is the best. Not going into too much detail, but... if you want Good Authentic Persian food and you don't want to break your wallet, come to these guys. DELICIOUS!!! Humus: some of the best I've had, so much garlic Listerine won't get the smell out. Pita bread: even if it comes from a bag, they warm it up for you and it so fresh, also comes with fresh basil, radishes, and onions. Entrees: Fantastic, $8-10 gives you a plater of roasted vegetables, basmati rice, and a meat or vegetable of your choice which is definitely delectable to the MAX!!! Plus, there is enough food on the plate to last another meal (which they will gladly wrap up for you to take home). Service could be a little better, but meh, food is too good!!!

I like Shirin and Green Cottage, but this place has the best Persian food. I have been to other restaurants in this chain, but this location is my favorite. I walk into the place at 1pm on a Thursday and the pace is packed. The lunch specials are very reasonable, which explains the hordes of elderly getting their money's worth Even though I'm dining alone, I get the next available table, which seats four. Nice. The owner seats me and takes my order. Of course I order the house doog. Since it's Thursday, I can try the khoresh bademjan, a thick tomato/eggplant/lamb stew. While I wait for the main course, I smear butter on my hot pita and make a nice onion sandwich. The main course comes and it is absolutely wonderful: thick sauce, mysteriously spiced, chunks of lamb so tender it's falling apart, and tasty jelly-like slices of eggplant. The rice is fine, and they even give me some tadig (the wonderful crispy rice from the bottom of the pan) without my asking for it. Luckily I order the dinner size, because I go home with a fabulous supper in the bag and I don't have to wait until next Thursday to have some. For dessert, I have the strong black tea. I put a sugar cube between my front teeth and sip the tea through it, OG style. Mmmmmm, heaven, and enough caffeine to jolt me. I don't like writing reviews in present tense.

MEH! I asked my dry cleaning man where I can find good kabobs and told me to come here. This place is the complete opposite in terms of decor to its sister location on Westwood Blvd. I felt like I was having dinner in my poor grandmother's dining room. The portions are huge and the price is right. But the food is just MEH! I had the koobideh and it was so dry. We won't be coming back.

Huge portions , the family loves it. Please do not try their hummus though , persians don't know s**t about hummus...their chicken kebab is juicy and yummy. Alboolo pulao is great too. Over all for a nice kebob type meal with rice this place is great !

This is one of our favorite restaurants. It's a hole in a wall type restaurant. If you are looking for a trendy looking place, this is not it. The servings are huge (lots of basmati rice) and the prices reasonable. The food is excellent. These days we normally order the salmon kabob with adas rice ($12.99 + tax) which is very good. We only order take out from here but do so about once a week. One order is good for the both of us and we still have plenty of left overs for another meal. So, overall a good deal.

i cant believe i've never been to this place and it's so close to home tucked away in an old plaza, it's pretty hidden. when you walk in, it's amost full but seated right away. the atmosphere is very dull plain cafe tables that wobble, regular old chairs service is very fast - they bring you out pita, butter, onions, mint, and radish before they take your order complimentary cucumber yogurt dip which was absolutely delicious - one of the best cucumber dips ive had. not too runny and cucumbers had a nice crunch still hummus - too salty i had the shesh kabob (filet mignon) some pieces were really really chewy, 2 pieces were tender my mom had the bareh kabob (lamb) - thin strips of lamb - it was ok not tender either both entrees come with grilled onion, tomato, and a mound of basmati - which i LOVE (add sumac)

Utterly fantastic. One of my favorite restaurants in LA, and yes, it's in ghetto-valley. $9.45 for DINNER. I think the lunch-time entree of the same thing is like, $6.99. You can't beat that. Wondering about quality and flavor? Read on. Your pre-dinner offerings are complete with a humongous serving of scrumptious salad pre-meal. It has the traditional middle eastern type mustard dressing with parsley, tomatoes, and cucumbers. A warm basket comes out with pita bread, foil-wrapped butter patties, and a plate of fresh wedged onions, basil, mint, and radishes. Hurry up and enjoy that salad and those pitas, because your dinner will come AT LIGHT SPEED (yay!) in probably 5-8 minutes. No, it's not already prepared. Food there has always been MADE FRESH immediately upon order. You can tell this just came fresh off the grill. Thing to order: Beef Koobideh. This is the (simple and classic) mouthwatering entree with two gynormous beef skewer kabobs. The plate comes with saffron and white rice, grilled fire-roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, and onion. Kabobs are a huge portion... and my bf and I always order extra lemon slices so we can spritz lemon juice over them - we like 'em for an extra tang. The meat is SUPER SUPER SUPER flavorful - so much that writing about it is making me salivate right now and I just ate lunch... !!! Never ordered dessert, as we have always been more than satiated at the end of our meal. We hardly long for anything else after our Shamshiri meals and I don't think we ever will. :) We love you, Shamshiri!! Go to Shamshiri. This low-key really no-frills place is such a favorite... that we went there for Valentine's day. I give myself props as a girlfriend who actually chose to go to a delicious, cheap place for a big night. Total bill: about $21-22 including tip, for two satisfied (albeit seemingly 10 lbs. heavier) customers. 5 stars for reliable, consistently quick and delicious service.

I called to ask if the beef koubideh was halal and was told yes. When I got there, the answer changed to no. only the chicken koubideh is halal. The cahier over ordered for me, and I ended up with way too much food. The service was great. The walked the food to my car and the owner came to point put the other menu items that were also halal. Chicken koubideh wasn't that great. Parking was a mess. Not sure if I will go back

This restaurant was recommended by one of my Persian friends back when we were starving students at CSUN. I've tried other Persian restaurants but so far none of them beat Shamshiri on the Taste vs. Value criteria. My favorite dish is the Baghaly Polo with lamb shank, which unfortunately is only available Friday and Monday. The next best thing for me is the Beef Koobideh. If you want the Koobideh with spices and beans in the rice instead of plain Basmati rice, try the Lubia Polo. I also like the Lamb Shislick but with the bones you don't get as much meat out of the dish. They recently changed the decor and replaced the carpeted floor with tiles, making the place looks brighter and nicer. Although the restaurant is clean in general, they had on occassion vacuum/sweep the floor while I was eating (which bugs the hell out of me), so I took half a star off for cleanliness. The other half is for service since they do ignore you especially when the place is packed. To complement the dish, I always order the Persian tea. I also like the Doog but prefer to get them from the Persian grocery store than pay restaurant price for it. Other restaurants I've tried in the area are Shirin, The Spot, Kebab House, and Green Cottage. They are all pretty good but so far Shamshiri is still the best in taste and price/value.

I dont usually eat in (let's just say the ambiance is ..umm..not so much) but anytime we order persian food this is the SPOT. They've been around since I was like 5 (yes - that's a LOONGGG time ago) and their Soltani is DA BOMB. =) Ask for extra sumac and onions and your meal will be perfection in its purest form.

I've been here a few times and can tell you that the place is stellar. Yes it's in a strip mall -- seems like good places are always located in nondescript strip malls. Parking lot is a bit odd, but you can pretty much park anywhere you find a spot. Anyway, I've had the salmon, which I think they only do on Sundays and it's fantastic. But on any given night you can order Zereshk Polo, off the House special menu. I know everyone loves persian rice, but when you add Barberries it takes rice to new heights. For $10.95 this is the absolute best bang for your buck. The chicken is brought in on a separate plate bathed in a lovely tomato broth. When you add the chicken to the rice plate and let the sauce soak into the rice, it adds even more flavor to the Zereshk. The only thing you don't get with this order is a charred tomato, which is a favorite of mine. Customer service is ok, they're friendly but it definitely helps when you go with someone who's Persian. I guess that's the case with a lot of restaurants. There isn't much ambiance in the place and there's a lot of foot traffic with pick up orders coming in and out.

Visiting the golden State I always look forward to fine Persian food. Not being a customer who cares so much about all the frills a restaurant as far as decor has to offer ( but always paying attention to getting good authentic Persian tasting food and of course good service.) I ordered my favorite Persian dish ghormeh sabzi with rice and was really impressed. They were very generous with their serving size of both the stew and rice. The rice was very aromatic and long grain. There was enough food for two persons to share. The side dishes were reasonably priced. I would have given five stars but I do think that a place this busy should not overload the waiter who was friendly but could have used some helping hands. Overall excellent food and will definitely be going back to dine here on my next visit.

Love it, love it, love it. I was taken here by a Persian friend and it's truly authentic. I recommend any of the kebobs, but my favorite is the Kobideh with the cherry rice.

It s one of the best place I ever been in SF valley. Delicious food , good service, clean place and reasonable prices... They know how to cook. If you like eating sweet foods I recommended to eat fesenjounn which is kind of sweetchicken with wallnuts. It s yummy..

It is a great value and excellent food. We have been coming here for years, and is a place the whole family enjoys... I have tried almost every plate in their menu, and have always been satisfied. I mostly enjoy the wide variety of rices [polo dishes] and the stews. My wife always shares a plate with my daughter [portions are huge!] and includes salad, pita bread, raw onion and radishes appetizer and we almost always order the delicious hummus. Their service is friendly but not excessively, ah!! and I was served by the lady only VON time, but didn't notice the accent??!!

We've eaten here for over 20 years, probably 100 times. This isn't a fancy Persian restaurant. The prices are very reasonable. The portions are great. Their soups deserve five stars. The positive reviews are seconded here. The four star rating is due to the obvious limitations of the setting; however, for its type, it is a five star restaurant. Food consistency is excellent. Why can't higher end Persian restaurants on Ventura Blvd. taste this good all the time?

Loved their lamb shank!!! So tender and flavorful! Substituted for the barberry rice with saffron... Love the tanginess of the barberry and how it contrasts with the rich, buttery sauce of the lamb shank.

fFirst time here...salad was too sour for our taste... we got the chicken kabob, fish (salmon) kabob, beef lulu & filet mignon, & veal stew...out of all these, LOVED the chicken kabob.. not salty, and it was really Juicy and moist... veal was good.. the basmati rice was awesome ... definitely will come back...

I thought I'd try take-out from the Shamshiri Grill due to good reviews I read on YELP. 15 minutes is about how long it takes me to drive from my house to their restaurant. When I arrived, there were 3 people working the front of the house, a man and 2 women. The man was talking to a friend of his, one woman was talking on the phone, and the other woman was putting together the to-go orders. As I walked in, I noticed that my order was sitting on a table ready to go. After 10 minutes of me standing at the cash register, the woman on the phone finished her call. She turned to me and said the other woman would help me, and then she walked out the front door. She forgot to tell the other woman to help me, because the other woman was running back and forth to the kitchen, putting together the orders. After another 10 minutes, the phone lady came back into the restaurant, went behind the counter and started playing with paperwork. Finally, I had to get "in her face" to ask "where's my order?". This prompted her to get the other woman, who got my order. I paid and left. During all this time, the man never stopped talking to his friend, even though he was standing no more than 3 feet from me. As I said, my order was ready when I walked into the place, and it took me 1/2 hour to get out. If the food was absolutely outstanding, I would have considered going there again, but it wasn't, it was just mediocre. In fact, for Mediterranean food, The Felafel Palace on Reseda Blvd. is much better. Shamshiri Grill will never see my face again.

Food is amazing!!! The prices are good as well. The customer service is ok. I dislike the corner plaza and the tight parking spaces. I wish they were in a more hip location. I'd take my wife there on a date before a movie if they were in a better spot.

I can eat their Shishlick every day of the week! It's that good, but I treat myself to this every once in awhile. I used to have it delivered all the time that the driver knew where to park and knew my face. Their Shamshiri and Barg is also good, but I love love lamb so that's why I get the Shishlick. I would be very sad if they closed down, b/c it's good Persian "fast food" for me.

We're Asian. What do we know about Persian food? We've eaten at a few Persian restaurants in the Valley: (Shirin, Green Cottage, Shiraz, The Shamshiri in Westwood, this place on the corner of Vanowen and Reseda, etc.). Anyway, Shamshiri is our go-to place for Persian. We don't pay for any fanciness or over-friendly and tip-hungry service. We usually order (excuse my spelling) the Gorma Sabzi, Kubideh, the filet mignon kebab, joojeh, etc. At this Shamshiri, it's a no-frills experience. We enjoy the salad, bread, turnips, herbs, and raw onions that come out in the beginning. My wife likes to make little sandwiches. When my Gorma Sabzi arrives, it's served with this sheet of deep fried rice. Being Asian, at first I thought this was a mistake. Who serves burnt rice found around the edge of the pot? I was wrong and now I love the stuff too. One thing that I thought was the worst thing in the world that I have come around to and love - their House Doogh. The first time, over ten years ago, when I had this salted and herbed yogurt drink , I thought I was drinking watered down ranch dressing. But in the last year I ordered it again and now enjoy it very much. Bottom line, this is a no-frills and very plainly furnished restaurant. Nothing trendy nor romantic. The food is simple. The price just right. The only thing weird I had there was this eggplant and lamb dish called Gameh or something like that. It was curiously sweet. Oh, and another thing I can complain about is, we have been there on a few occasions early in the evening. I found it rather disgusting when they were vacuuming the carpet right next to me as I was eating. But that's a really small issue compared to the dozens of times we've eaten there and enjoyed the food.

This the best! Been coming here for 20 years. Consistently great food. I've been to the Persian restaurants on Ventura Blvd., but this is the one I keep coming back to. It's also the one all the Persian engineers at work go to. Everything is wonderful, you can't go wrong. Walnut and Pomegranate? Who would have thought. The skewers are perfect, nice fire grilled flavor, but expand your taste buds and try some of the stews. Huge serving of perfectly cooked rice makes a great meal the next day. My niece lives in New York, and this is the restaurant she dreams about when she comes to visit. My wife will kill for the home made humus. I'm Irish, she's Chinese, we're drooling over Persian food. Go figure.

Von. That's the magic number in this hole in the wall of Persian cuisine. Though the interior has gone through a recent renovation, unfortunately the staff and the rest of the place needs an overhaul. As you enter, you are greeted by the uber friendly Persian staff, not only ready to serve you as you walk in, but impatiently have you order asap, and to get you out of there asap. Considering how unfriendly their service, decor, and total atmosphere goes, I woulda loved to zip in 'n out of a place like this, but when I am with clients having a luncheon meeting, it is probably not the appropriate treatment I was looking for. Ya I've been coming here for over 10 years now. The food is decent at times. The salad, though big and abundant looking, is mostly comprised of low grade tasteless lettuce. The dressing is delish though. The kabobs are far from being the "best", the bread is definitely microwaved warm, and the service is at an all time Persian low. Persian, or any Middle Eastern restaurants for that matter, have never really strived as places that tend to good service. At this place especially, it is service without a smile, and with all the warm Middle Eastern hospitality thrown out the window. The lady serving us on this particular day I am reviewing about never said hello as she just stood there expecting us to order as we walked in. Never asked us what we want to drink or anything like that. I've seen this woman here before. I believe she is either the owner or some relation to the owner. Well I am almost positive this lady has probably lived in this country for over 10 years now. Then how come when I want "one" of something, she insists on bringing my "von"? I mean for Christ's sake, you've been here for how many years, and you still can't wipe that stupid "v" from in front of any word that starts with or pronounced as a "w"? People, you are surrounded by English speaking people everyday. Learn how to say certain words a certain way. it is not only embarrassing to you, but shows how unwilling you are to educate yourself properly. I am so over it and any excuses you have for not pronouncing certain words properly. So to conclude, this place is overrated in all aspects. You can tell by the lack of pride these people have in their restaurant as you walk in. The heater is never on, the walls are bare of anything except for paint, so it looks like a communist cafeteria from the 60's, let along the service with the typical Persian unhappiness (which has also reflected in the bussers attitude as well), and the prices aren't that great folks. I mean yes it is less than $10 for some dishes, but by the time you pay for your drink, tax + tip you are out $15 per person minimum. So my suggestion would be to give this place a total overhaul, get rid of the attitude and the mediocre foods and put in place a decent Persian restaurant instead. I love Persian food, but this place isn't even close to being average.

I LOVE their food! Been to several kabob places in the Valley and this is one of the best. Every time I go the meat is flavorful, the rice is moist and the service is great. I highly recommend it. The eggplant borani is also excellent.

Love love LOVE this place! Been going here at least 1-2 times a month for the past 6 year and I have yet to find anything negative about it. I mean how can every dish be so perfect with the exact right taste! Portions are huge and enough to share between 2 people. Prices are unbeatable! Free bread, butter, and a mint dish! Most entrees come with a delicious salad. Friendly and devoted workers (all of them have been there from day 1)! All in all, BEST restaurant!

I went here for lunch and ordered salmon kabab well done, when they brought it I notices it was raw inside just like sushi and I didn't like it at all, I called this tall guy and told him the fish wasn't cooked, he got upset and with a very rude voice said: oh you don't want it ? ok I take it back. It simply needed more cooking . I never saw the food again, he just gave me the bill. I paid for something that I didn't get! Also in the past I ordered to go and when I got home I saw the kabab was burnt so bad and I had to through it in the trash. This is a horrible restaurant, I'll never go there again.

Admittedly, having dined at the Shamshiri Restaurant in Westwood, my expectations were high at the start of this dinner. For starters our appetizers went like this. The eggplant borani was served in a soup bowl, mushed together, I suppose I'm used to a pretty presentation in which the warm eggplant is served garnished with a dollop of yogurt and sautéed onions. The hummus was also in a soup bowl, no garnish, looked like it was spooned out of a container. Ordered the albalou polo, and although it was in a sauce, the white meat was dry. The chicken koobideh was okay, not great, not nearly as good as the Westwood location. The beef koobideh was flavorful. The vegetarian sabzi polo was alright, nothing special and the vegetable kabob consisted of several grilled onions and a piece of green pepper. No skewer and I suppose a better description would be onions and a piece of pepper . Kabob doesn't do it. The pita arrived warm and when it cooled off, was quite hard . Service was friendly and adequate . Too bad this little step child takes a big second to the big sister in Westwood. Give this one the same attention, please..

One of the best restaurants in the valley in a most unassuming location. Fresh fare, friendly service, huge portions, reasonable prices... Good reasons to frequent this place. I love the lamb shank (limited days), the kabobs, the white fish, and the lentil soup. Huge, heaping mountains of rice are served with all entrees. You also get a complimentary table salad with a wonderfully tangy dressing. Did I mention the endless pita bread, butter, basil, mint, and radish? We're here pretty much 3-4 times a month -- which is why you should give this place a shot!

I have been going here for years with my family. They have complimentary pita bread, butter, and a salad. We always get the eggplant borani which makes a good appetizer. Then we order two dishes for three people. My favorite dishes are the beef and chicken koobideh. Always will be a hit. The next item on certain days is the lamb shank. This is a lamb leg that comes with a stew and Lima bean rice. The meat is so soft and the rice is so flavorful. The next item that I think is a hit is the lubia polo. This has a tomato base with chunks of beef in it and comes with a beef koobideh. I love this place. We literally come here almost every week. And I am sure anything will be flavorful. You get a good amount for what you pay for.

Came here for the first time with two of my friends on a Friday night. Never knew there was such a good restaurant in this tiny plaza! It was pretty empty when we came, so I really skeptical of the restaurant, but the food was yummy yummy yummy. The servers were very attentive and very friendly, and the food came out very fast. I don't eat Persian food very often, so I'm not sure what authentic Persian food should taste like, but I'll make the food from this restaurant as the norm! I don't remember the name of what I got, but kabobs are definitely the thing to get at this restaurant. The portions are so big!

This place is hidden along Tampa. I have only eaten in the restaurant once. I always call in for delivery or pick up. The Koobideh & Barg is our favorite. I especially like the Koobideh, while my husband prefers the Barg. Portions are huge and each plate comes with rice with saffron, roasted tomatoes & fresh onions and bread. I also LOVE the Dolmeh. Lentils wrapped in grape leaf! The meat is full of flavor & tender. Can't go wrong. Don't judge this place by the way it looks on the outside cause this place serves GOOD food at a fairly reasonable price. Enjoy...

Shamshiri is one of my favorite restaurants. My favorite dish: shishlick. That lamb is so tasty and tender and their rice is perfect (I could live off the rice alone). They also have the best beef koobideh and really tasty salads. My family also loves their soups and the mast o'khiar (tzadtziki, jajik, yogurt dip). The only down-side is that the acoustics are terrible. Unfortunately, a Zumba place recently opened a few doors down and they're incredibly loud, which definitely dampers my dining experience. Still, the food is so delicious and it's not the establishment's fault (especially considering they were there first).

SO DISAPPOINTED! Yelp usually gets it right. What happened?! I eat a lot of ethnic foods but I don't consider myself a Persian food expert. Just a disclaimer. We decided to do Persian last night for my boyfriend's birthday. The six of us were seated immediately and our drinks and orders were taken very quickly. I was super excited for this food as it seemed very authentic and hole-in-the-wall places can be real diamonds-in-the-rough. (And such high ratings!) Drinks and food came at a reasonable time frame. It started out so well.... Breakdown of the food: Persian tea: Super strong black tea that kept me up until 3 am (I'm not a huge caffeine consumer) Hummus: Delicious with the pita bread served. Generous portion that was enough for six people. Salad: Fresh lettuce with sliced tomatoes and red onions. Yummy dressing that I actually used as a dipping sauce for my entree too :D Chicken Koobideh: Very generous portion. You can probably feed a small family with this entree. The meat was OK... not sure if it was seasoned enough? Kind of a weird texture. I used the salad dressing as a dip to give it more of a taste. The rice was OK... definitely could've used more seasoning as well. Not sure if there is a difference between the white and yellow basmati rice but also kind of bland. Waiter never returned after bringing the food. Everyone felt sick after dinner and we ended up throwing away the leftovers. Yuck. I wouldn't eat here again.

Surprised the reviews of this place are so high. I have been going to this place once every so often over the last 5 years or so and I am sad to say that the quality and taste of food has really decreased. The service is okay but the quality, flavor, and taste of food is really no more than 2 stars. I have been to much better Persian restaurants on Ventura or in Glendale. This place needs to step it up.

Yummmm! The food is so good here. I had the chicken and shirazy salad and omg I died. It's full of flavor and then give you so much. I especially loved their salad, I could eat it forever! Ordered the Chicken Kabob and Bareh Kabob. The chicken and lamb were cooked and seasoned well. Overall, I liked the food, although there seemed to be too much rice and not enough vegetables (but then again I'm not as big on white rice as other people). Service was okay, but it was quick. The place didn't look all that nice and could've been cleaner.

Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The strip mall looked pretty old and shoddy but we went in anyway. The service was great; I don't know what experience others have had but it didn't match our experience. I think maybe there was some kind of cultural misunderstanding. In my experience, Middle Eastern eateries don't provide the "hang over you throughout the meal and assault you with check-ins as soon as you put food in your mouth" service. They are more about letting you enjoy your meal and socialize with your company at your leisure and figure you will flag them down if you need something. We found the man helping us (pretty sure he was an owner or family of) to be very kind and helpful. We asked about the menu and he answered questions and volunteered useful information about the food and ingredients. I got the beef kabob (omg, off the hook flavorful!) and dh got the koobideh (which I tried and was also super good). We also got a side of an orange and nut rice dish because it sounded so interesting; it sure was interesting and delicious, especially if you like sweet stuff. My dh actually liked it more cuz he's a sweet lover. I must try the green stew next time and oh yes there will be a next time.

Disgusting food and bad service all in one place. The food was smelling rotten, and did not look good.

Large portions and good food, I've had better kebabs but for the price you can't go wrong, they give you salad, pita bread and just a lot of food. Been here a few times I would go back but not my first choice for persian food.

The food was wonderful, abundant, and cheap. I had the Koobideh, and although it looked a little undercooked, I scarfed the entire lunch portion down (which is still quite large). A day or so later I became violently ill, but I'm not sure if it was Shamshiri's fault or not. Oh well; sacrifices to the porcelain God must be made for the sake of a good meal. Lunch came with saffron rice, grilled veggies, pita, and a side salad with a delicious lemon vinegarette. The entire meal was $10, including tax and a generous tip. Totally worth it; next time I'll just make sure to ask for the meat well done.

I don't usually like spending $ on persian food as my grandma's is the best :P. but this place is great, and the portions are generous too, Reasonably priced. I will be back when in the area and in the mood :) Service is great too. Why 4 stars instead of 5? The tables are a bit small for the amount of plates you get. Also, the bread doesn't taste fresh. And service is great, but can be slow at times

Not much to say about this restaurant. It's one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the valley! You'll have to rethink your thoughts about Persian cuisine after dining here. The atmosphere is great as it's very spacious and fills the restaurant with the freshest aroma of spices and so forth. The main appetizers offered together for every order include salad with a side of dressing, toasty naan bread wrapped up with some butter and a fresh heaping amount of fresh mint, radish, and half an onion. The beef Kabobs are very very popular here; including all the "Polo" dishes. Everything tasted fresh and was delivered super hot. The employees/owners are very assertive and kind as well. Great to see how this place had become. They increased the size of the original restaurant with ANOTHER room filled with more tables and giant flat screens. Truly an absolute must-try for all Persian/Middle Eastern cuisine lovers. The only downside is that a lot of their popular dishes are only served a couple days to one day a week, so with a busy schedule, it's nearly impossible to drive by to taste some, but you can't complain! Their lamb curry is spectacular!

I give only two stars b/c it was not good but not horrible. I thought it was going to be awesome rich in flavor but was disappointed. It left much to be desired. I had the chicken barb food came out warm wasn't hot like it was fresh. The rice was a lil hard and tasted like pot and the chicken was bland no flavor. My first and last visit most definitely not a four star.

Their lunch combo's are simply awesome. Several of us can share just one meat combo platter. Chicken and Beef Barg kabob's with great basmati rice, touch of saffron, fresh garden salads, hummus and pita bread. We have been patrons for years and they are consistently good, friendly too!

We have been to this place many times and the food is excellent on a consistent basis! The reason for three stars is service. One of the times while dinning there, I found Aluminum foil in my food and upon informing our server was notified that it was due to the way the "tadik" was prepared. No apologies or discounts were offered. OK, so big deal, not like I ate it? Or at least not that I am aware of? My hubby and I love the food so much that I took my family there when they were visiting from out of town. This turned out to be a bad idea as that day the same server was attending to us and he got annoyed with us because we asked too many questions about the menu. So, he started getting snappy with us, cutting us off and walking away from our table without even letting us finish our sentences. This kept on going on the entire night and needless to say the place lost its charm for me. So, after giving them two chances, we decided to not dine in anymore. We still eat from there on a regular basis and the food is consistently delicious, but we always get it to go.

Shamshiri Grill is delicious to the max! My Friend and I always come here whenever we hang out. This location is not bad; they can up a little in the decor and atmosphere, but for the most part its not too shabby. I also went to the Westwood location which is fantastic! The food is ALWAYS awesome. The portion sizes are pretty big and it's not that expensive. They start you off with warm pita bread companied with herbs and veggies. I get the Chicken Koobideh, my friend gets the Beef, and we tend to share the meat. We also order Tadig, which is crispy rice with pomegranate sauce on top, really good. I love hummus, and theirs is fresh. All the times I've gone, the service was good. No complaints there. I say overall, the food, service and prices are superb. Definitely give it a try!
