We were in Monterey for the Greek Festival, and disappointed at not finding any seafood (???) at the festival. But wait...Peter B's was close by, and I remember having excellent calamari appetizer plates there in the past. Since we were right around the area, we decided to go there for calamari and beer. We ordered the Monterey Cali-Mari appetizer...and what a big difference between then and now. Then...the calamari appetizer was presented on a nice size plate, crispy, tender rings and tentacles, perfectly fried. I thought...one of the best fried calamari appetizer I've had in the Monterey area. And NOW...a tiny handful of greasy calamari, presented in a little basket...What happened? The beers were decent, and stout and IPA nice flavor. Website menu needs to be updated as it did not list the 5 beers available at the pub, and for beer flight samplers. Extensive pub food menu...but if you can't make a good plate of Monterey Bay calamari appetizer, I don't think I want to go back and try other food.

Came here while on vacation with my lady, and I'll say this place is simply OK. The beer is decent, but nothing special. I got the calamari, the lady got garlic fries. Both were pretty tasty. The service was pretty good as well. Happy hour prices were not that great ($4 for a beer during happy hour? Gimme a break...) I guess I'd come back next time I visit, but all in all this place didn't really leave much of an impression on me.

My family and I come here at least 3 times a wake after we get off work. The wings are awesome and so is the beer. LOVE the service! David, Mariana, Peter, Jeff, Ivan you guys rock! :)

Amazing food and Heffeweizen that they make in house! Atmosphere is very inviting and relaxed. Service was excellent!

The food is great and the beer is even better!! Also a great place for the whole family; my kids keep asking to go back

Went with a large group today after the Big Sur Half Marathon. They found us a great spot back by the pool table with plenty of TVs, each turned to a different FB game. Service was pleasant, but not overly so (though I know big groups can be a hassle to wait on, so not a big deal). The seasonal beer (a chocolate porter) was great, and a pitcher was $18.00. The IPA was good too, though I'm not generally an IPA fan. I had a chicken ciabatta sandwich and fries, which were fine -- basic, good pub food. Everyone else seemed happy with their meals as well. Perfectly good lunch spot for anyone, including families and groups.

Happy hour is awesome, our server was great she was attentive. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the bartender Jeff, (it's funny how a person remembers rude and non professional individuals). Would go back as long as Jeff is no long a bartender.....

Service started decent, then tapered off to crap.

I don't like it when I don't have my phone to yelp! What happens is my dinners aren't as good... So, the bartender said the tap needed to be changed for the beer I wanted, then when questioned more said they were out. Maybe they should have crossed it out on the board... just saying.... The alternative beer was okay though. I ordered a "brewpup" staple, Fish and Chips (Alaska Halibut, yum?); not! The breading was greasy and the was so so... I understand that this is Monterey and a bit touristy, but fish and chips should be an easy dish for a brewpub. So, the bottom line is maybe for a beer or two during happy hour, but elsewhere for food for me next time.

We really like Peter B's. We've been their loyal customers for many years. They have recently revised their menu and added some cool items. Fish tacos are very good. Their Cobb salad is a really big salad. Swedish meatballs are very yammy. The beer is excellent, especially Alvarado street raspberry. The service is also very good. Dave is so friendly and helpful. Mariana is a sweetheart and is so professional. It is a perfect place for a casual and tasty meal. Is is also a good value.

Food is decent and they have good beer. Best part was the kids menu and the very good prices.

Best thing about this place? Happy Hour (4-7pm everyday)! Yes, this includes Saturday as well. During HH, all the appetizers are around $3~$4 and beers are around $2~$3. They also have free popcorn. Oh yeah, students can get a discount on top of the HH discount if you show your student ID when paying. Can't beat that eh? This place is jammed packed with students on Fridays, so Saturday is the best day to go. Only one unpleasant experience with this restaurant. My friends and I went there one day around 6:45pm and they didn't seat us until 7pm even though there were plenty of seats there. The waiter even lied to us and said the restaurant was full. I guess they didn't want bunch of cheap grad students coming in for the Happy Hour at the last minute. But there's no need to lie.....

Love the complimentary popcorn, service was ok and the food was alright. Calamari was just ok but the vegetable plate (cauliflower, carrots, black olives, celery etc...) looked parboiled. or steamed. We thought that wsa kind of strange. Had the Chocolate Martini which was heh ( I was picturing a milky chocolate color not dark brown) and the Sea Breeze cocktail which was good. Good place to go if you want to watch a game on tv with some friends.

this was a beer-only trip - sat at bar - stopped by on the way to a biz dinner elsewhere in town. nice selection -- liked this place for their beer for a while now. someday I should try the food, but the beer definitely works.

My friend and I happened upon this spot when we were trying to find a restaurant opened past ten on a Saturday night in Monterey. (And then I was reminded why I moved away from this town after living there for a year.) Peter B's came through for us, being open rather late for the drinking crowd. Of course, we were just there for food, and when we didn't order any alcohol it seemed as though our waiter stopped caring about us. The service was extremely slow. I got the cobb salad, and it was pretty mediocre as cobb salads go. Oh well, I guess beggars can't be choosers when you want dinner after ten in a town geared toward tourists.

  • Kim S.

I was going to come here once but they couldn't be bothered to seat us. We hoovered in the doorway a good five minutes before giving up. All the other locals I know who've tried coming here have found the service to be HORRIBLE so I don't think I'd ever be tempted to try it again.

Bordering on 4 stars. Good beers. Great happy hour deal. Pretty good bar food. Lots of tvs to watch a game. I guess I should do 4 stars, but am holding back because there was something that felt generic about it. And a few of the bartenders sucked.

Never really eaten here (even though I do remember some tasty appetizers), but the beer is awesome! Huge glasses of tasty beer for a good price. Great patio outdoors, and nice environment inside. Also a plus, the bathrooms are clean.

Stumbled upon this place getting in late to Monterey. The food was disappointing (don't try the artichoke dip) and their recommended Mac and cheese was bland. If you are looking for a sports bar for a game and drink this place will work; however don't eat here!

this place is nothing spectacular, but i will admit that it was fun coming in just to watch the basketball games. the reason we liked it was because of the fact that it was close and typically quiet. you could get standard food like buffalo wings. i think we had been in there so often that i eventually just told them what i wanted within reason... like one night all i wanted was a grilled cheese sandwich and some fruit and they had no problems even though it was not on the menu.

used to go there a lot, love the paninis...but the last time i went everything was going fine and we were ordering and my friend asked "do you have any onion rings?" and the waiter said " excuse me" and ran off literally. i assumed he went to go check if there were onion rings. a few minutes later, a waitresscame up and finished taking our order explaining that something came up with the previous waiter. food came out, delicious as always. thhen the "excuse me" waiter comes up, WHILE WE ARE EATING, and starts telling us how he is puking and shitting his brains out due to some bad chicken wings he ate earler that day on the wharf. Now mind you, I never had an experience like this before there, but ever since then, I will not go back...yuck

This is an excellent place to chill on a Saturday evening. We arrived here at around 10:30pm and they were still serving food and drinks; they have a full bar. I wasn't really hungry but I decided to order something anyway. My bf ordered the crab and garlic pizza (approx. $10.00) which is about an 8" pizza, no tomato sauce and is toppped with mozzarella and fresh crab meat. It wasn't anything special but is a good thing to snack on. I ordered the warm artichoke and spinach dip with crostini (approx $8.00). The crostini was a little too thick and crispy for my liking. I was thinking I should have requested for tortilla chips instead. We sat at a high table right next to the indoor firepit/fireplace which was nice because I was warm the whole evening. They have flat screen tv's pretty much on every wall in addition to a pool table. We obviously didn't come here for the food but rather for a place to hang out. FYI, this place closes at midnight.

Stopped by here with friends and it's decent if you want beer from a local brew pub. There are a couple pool tables..a outdoor patio out front and a small bar inside and booth seating in the restaurant. Not that bad. Noticed some local college students hanging out there , along with groups. It's hit or miss here. Sports play on several tvs in the restaurant and the bar. Food is alright...could be better..if you're vegan or vegetarian...they do offer a grilled veg sandwich.about $12...and appetizers like sweet potato tots, fried artichokes, fried pickles, fries, onion rings...and the rest of the menu is burgers, steak and pizza, pasta...it's pretty much an extension of the hotel there...so tourists and guests stop in..but a handful of locals are there for the brew pub...beers, which taste woodsy with hints of chocolate and citrus. Not bad. Cocktails average $10,$12 to $16..and happy hour is only till 5/6pm...I think? I ordered a Peach Fizz...vodka, schnapps, peach, soda and orange juice..it was "so so"..about $10..Reminder..they do not sell other beer brands here..except the beer they make...so don't ask. 4 stars for the in house brew pub. Cool to hang with friends to grab drinks here. For a party of three.we spent about $75 for two cocktails, two shots, a beer and three appetizers. Waitress was impatient. ..and kind of "rushy" and rude..then again...it was a packed house on a Friday night. Whatever. ..HAHA!

I love Peter B's. I love this place for their beer. I've tried the giant pretzel with cheese which was delicious, but I come here for the best beer in Monterey & the surrounding area! It's a must if you enjoy craft beer. Cheers!

We had bought a Travelzoo voucher for this place. We came here for a late dinner with two tired doggies in tow after a long day of hiking and exploring the area. The patio was empty because apparently they had just finished a private event, so getting a table was no big deal. Our server was very nice and kept checking on us even though we were the only table outside and they were pretty busy inside. Our voucher allowed us to choose two appetizers, two entrees and two beer flights (5 samples of 4 oz each). The beer flights were pre-selected for us. The blonde ale and the amber beers were my favorites but across the board the beers were quite good. The appetizer portions were pretty generous. We got the calamari and the crab artichoke dip. The calamari batter was great and the pieces were big but, a bit chewy. The dip was very good but all the crab meat was at the bottom of the dip. Our entrees were the grilled fish tacos and the steak. The tacos were tasty. The steak was a bit overcooked but it was good quality meat Overall I enjoyed the experience and I would come back, at least for beer and appetizers.

Very nice beers at decent prices. The fried artichokes are delicious. The patio has fire pits built into the tables and is dog friendly. There is also free pop corn in the bar area.

Went here for a lunch. Awesome little place. Be their own beers. Good food selection and beer menu. I had Hawaiian pizza (was actually make your own) and 2 pints of seasonal beer and my bill was $21. The place was clean, with good service, so I tacked on a $9 tip. They have outdoor seating, as well as a bar area, and TVs. Definitely plan to be back!

Came in on a Monday evening, was highly recommened. As a beer enthusiast I knew I wanted to get a growler. Showed up and sat at the bar. Was immediately helped by my bartender Robert, got a flight and he helped me with picking it the perfect growler. Which by the way is an awesome growler, prob best I own. (I own a lot). Didn't get to try the food but everything coming out looked amazing, if your passing thru town and love beer, this is a must stop. Sit at the bar and hope for Robert. P.s. cheap refills on Wed, to bad I'm leaving town on Tuesday, will deff be back.

I've been to this place over a dozen times since they first opened back in the 90's during the beginning of the microbrewery explosion. A recent trip back inspired me to write this review cause the experience was a really good one. I'll start with the beer (it is after all a brewery), it's AWESOME! My fiancé has never been a beer drinker but she's starting to enjoy it because I have her actually "taste" different beers. We had 2 flights to start, 5 beers each = 10 beers, that covered all their regular and seasonal offerings. I loved every one of them settling on the experimental IPA for my dinner pint. Here's the cool thing, my fiancé actually enjoyed about 2/3rds of them (she's not a hop head like myself). She settled on a pint of the imperial stout with dinner. The waitress politely schooled me when I questioned the size of their "goblet" glasses they served the high ABU beers in. She poured a 16oz pint of water into an empty goblet and sure enough, they are the same size. Most places won't serve a 9.5% ABU beer in a full 16oz pour so this was a bonus (just dont forget your designated driver...) For food we tried 2 appetizers and 3 different entrees and they were all super tasty. Here's a few words about most of them... "Cali-Mari" app, A nice portion of rings and tentacles fried up with some thin sliced red jalapenos and lightly drizzled with a garlic lemon aioli and served with a side of their serrano vinaigrette. Perfectly fried, not too greasy with a tiny teaser of heat from the jalapenos. Warm Crab, Spinach, and Artichoke dip app, A cute little clay pot with sautéed spinach, dungeness crab, artichoke hearts, garlic and jack cheese served with crostini. This was ooey gooey delicious with long strings of cheese following your dip across the table. House made Sausages, 2 good sized pork and fennel sausages served with warm German style potato salad and pickled red cabbage slaw and a side of stout beer mustard. The sausages were like a beer bratwurst style sausage perfectly cooked and perfectly paired to the stout mustard a real treat. The potato salad was probably my favorite thing I had, It was red skin on potatoes with bits of bacon, celery, pickles, and heated up just right with a touch of mayo and mustard to tie it all together. This must have been made fresh to order as the pickles and celery had a killer crunch and the bacon, oh ya, bacon! Chinese Chicken Cashew Salad, A huge portion with sautéed chicken breast, toasted cashews, jalapeños and apples, tossed in sesame soy vinaigrette and served over a bed of mixed greens, mandarin oranges topped with a crispy noodles. A great rendition of a classic, very tasty. After all of that we did not have room for dessert but I usually drink my dessert at breweries anyways so no big deal. I love this place and next time I'm in Monterey I'll definitely be back!

Hi me and my wife stop here on Vacation and the service was above and beyond not to mention the food and the Beer . Our waiter Carlos made our stay there memorable .we liked the service so much we went back the next day. Carlos was not our waiter but still took the time to say hello and remember our Anniversary. Will definitely come back here again from LA

The best service is directly at the bar. Anywhere else and I've either waited for a very long time or once my server disappeared for half an hour after we were finished with our food and beer. So why the five stars? Everyone is friendly and goes out of their way to fix something if they can...you know, if they're around! The outside seating is dog friendly and has nice fire pits and heat lamps, there's free popcorn, the beer is delicious, the food is pretty good. Best deal for two people is to share the huge plate of pulled pork nachos (hold the pork if you're vegetarian). Skip the Ceviche, it's a small portion served with super salty chips. Thursdays are $1 taco nights, at least as of this review. They have a mug club which makes you feel special and gets you happy hour beer prices all the time. Oh, but there's only one friggin' toilet so don't break the seal. Review written after too many visits to count.

I really enjoyed my experience at Peter B's. We had a couple of their beers which are brewed in house, I had the Broken Hand, which was excellent! Its 9.6% abv, so not for the faint of heart. The Belly Up Blonde Ale is also great. We had an appetizer of the nacho platter which was delicious, I was pleasantly surprised that it was topped with carnitas! My entree was the fish tacos which were wonderful. The service was top notch as well.

Came on a pretty busy night so we ended up sitting at the bar. Service was pretty good. Food left me leaving somewhat unfulfilled. Overall, nothing too special, they offer your basic pub style food, and the people, staff and customers both, were pretty friendly. I just wish the food was a little bit better. There's really not much else to comment on, I guess I was a little too focused on watching the warriors game

I normally don't write reviews, but I often depend on them when looking for a place to eat. I felt so duped by the reviews of this place. The only reasons I gave it 2 stars was because of Lauren, our nice waitress who comped our two meals that we disliked so much we had to send them back; the prices for happy hour were reasonable and the beer was good (we had the blonde, the IPA and the raspberry). My mom had the crab pizza. She couldn't eat it and had to send it back due to the fishy aftertaste and overwhelming amount of cheese. I had the chicken fingers and had to send them back. They were overcooked and flat as paper. Not sure what it was, but it was not chicken in those things. The friend pickles and fish and chips had the same overcooked issue. It also seemed like they haven't changed out the oil in a week. I will not be visiting here again except for maybe a beer before going to dinner elsewhere. Very disappointed! Thank you Lauren for being so kind and helpful. I will note, they gave us two free orders of wings to compensate for our two dishes that had to be sent back and the wings were decent.

Sit at the bar when you come in, you won't regret! This is a place my coworker and I hit from time to time. On my latest experience we had the beer flight and some appetizers. We ordered the cod fish ceviche and fried artichokes.. So yummy!! For drinks we got the beer flight, it is great you get to choose 5 different beers and they are a decent size! The bar is the perfect place if you'd like to socialize. We had two AMAZING bartenders, JEFF and JESUS. By the end of the night I managed to forget my debit card and Jeff saved it for me, totally relieved the panic I was in when I ran back in 1/2 hour later and he had it for me! A total thumbs up for these two! Jesus was just available for any questions and super fast service our food was out in no time!! If it helps we went in on a Saturday night even though it was busy we still had great service. We will definitely continue to keep coming back if you're ever in the area and happen to be at the wharf, make sure to stroll into Peter B's!!

If this review was just for the beer, it would probably get bumped up to 4 stars. Their beers were pretty good and during happy hour, are very well priced. However the dark interior and mediocre food bumped this down to 3 stars. This is a pretty standard restaurant with their own beer pairings. The perks of this being a restaurant is that they have a full bar and a few wines to offer. A place that will appease all the drinkers in your group. If you can sit outside, I would most definitely recommend it; even the bar area is better than the booths. However, I will say that the great happy hour is served everywhere in the restaurant and will definitely keep us coming back.

Stopped by, currently enjoying a Citra IPA, the craft brews are insanely tasty and would have given 5 stars but....sat here for fifteen minutes and no one helped me, the table next to me came 10 mins after me and the hipsters were served! Wth?? Ended up ordering from the bar! Anyways great place!

My fiancé and I were in Monterey for the weekend and we just so happen to stumble on this hidden jem. We've been here a million times yet never been to Peter B's Brew Pub. We had a delicious appetizer and their amazing in-house brewed beer. My favorite Belly Up Blonde Ale.. we spent our time at the bar and let me tell you Robert was the best bar tender and host that we've had in some time. Robert was atenitive and yet friendly conversing with us keeping us entertained. Best place ever! !!!

Walking in on the NBA playoffs, game 5 HOU vs. GS and the bar was full, with standing room available, we decided to go outside. Luckily, they have several fire pits and comfortable seating outside and the game playing. We were there towards the end of happy hour and got the margaritas. They weren't too bad. The best decision was ordering the sweet potato fries. They were crispy and not soggy (like most I've tasted). The service was fast. Getting there around 6 and sitting down with drinks (from the bar, which was fast as well) around 6:06. 4 stars!!! B

This tiny brewery makes some great beer. My go-to brew of choice is something packed with hops, thus I love IPA's. Peter B's Brewpub makes some killer Indian Pale Ales. The Dr. Strangelove is 6.1% , it 's quite tasty and not overly-filling IPA. The 8.6% "The Broken Hand" is another deliciously-strong IPA. Every so often they offer a killer GROUPON deal. For around $40 you get any 2 appetizers, then 2 entrees or basically anything on the menu and then you get some beer. Either a flight of the house beers or your can just get a 25 ounce mug of one of the choices. We had the Nachos to starts (sans Pork - black beans added instead) ... These were huge and very good. We also got a Crab-Artichoke-Cheese dip --- this was very rich, delicious and filling.... With these two tasty appetizers and our beers ... Geez we were already getting full, but heck we have a groupon (its like playing with house money) and we still and our dinner decisions to make. We decided to go with the house specialty pizza. A garlic white sauce crab pizza. This was another very rich and filling dish. The crab was fresh and the pizza crust was top notch.... We ate most of the pizza and took some of it home. We also got a 2nd basic pizza with all the fixings to go ..... This was so much food for a pretty cheap Groupon Price. ($38 groupon for over $70 in food) We also got a slice of Lemon cheesecake to go. It was divine. All of our to-go food fit perfectly in our near by hotel room fridge. It provided great late night snack and next morning breakfast. I will return to Peter B' again !!

when are you going to make healthy tasty food? i picked the healthiest you have - artichoke and hummus, both came with 80% bread. Artichoke is breaded and deep fried, its so overcooked, I took artichoke out and it was mushy and tasted awful. Hummus is nothing special, comes with cheap bitter olives and a lot of flavorless bread again. i demand healthy tasty food!!!

I had a groupon for Peter B's which included two appetizers, two entrees, and two beer flights. The waitress gave us the option to choose a 25 oz beer over the beer flight, which was nice considering I wasn't interested in trying a couple of beers they had on the beer flight. I opted for the IPA which was quite delicious and gave me the perfect buzz. We ordered the fried artichokes and calamari as an appetizer and both were absolutely delicious. Although both were fried, the batter wasn't too heavy and had great flavor. While the start of the dining experience was good, we were both underwhelmed with the entrees. I ordered the fish tacos, which lacked flavor and they were very, very bland. My mother ordered the steak. When one orders a steak, you imagine to receive one decent sized steak. Instead, she received three very small strips that were not cooked medium rare as requested. They were over done and like the fish tacos, lacked flavor. They did offer a pool table, which was nice, but we didn't get a chance to play as it was always being used. The ambiance was decent, although it was a bit warm inside. Overall it is a great place to grab good beer and appetizers, but I wouldn't order any entrees.

Great find located in the Portola Plaza right off of Fishermans Wharf. The atmosphere in the bar area is perfect: dark with plenty of tvs to watch the game. We were seated quickly and and the waitress took our order right away. The drinks took longer than expected(not more than a few minutes ) so our waitress surprisingly brought us a free appetizer to apologize even though we hadn't even complained. 5 star service! Bf and I each got the 5 beer flight with our choice of brews. All good and tasty enough that we bought a Growler for later. We split some apps since we just wanted to relax and catch the game. The fried pickles were the best I've had. The stout mustard and Bavarian pretzel were perfect. Loved the cheese curds and crab dip too. Loved Peter B's so much that we're considering staying downtown on our next stay so we can have done late night drinks here and walk back to our hotel.

Second time here. Food was good. Service was great. Atmosphere was good, they have TVs with games on which was big with my dad. Great piece for drinks with friends.

  • Robert C.

First off, the inside of this place is great! Has many TVs to watch all the games at once. The staff is very friendly are on the spot for whatever you need! Second, the outside sitting area is great!!! There is nothing like sitting outside by a fountain drinking a cold beverage in Monterey! The only thing missing is an ocean view. There is plenty of shade and for cooler weather there are heaters. The building also provides an excellent wind break. Third, they love dogs here! Bring yours and they will bring him a bowl of water before they get yours! I am a dog LOVER though soooo..... They also use the leftover grains from the beer to make dog treats. Completely safe and non alcoholic. The waiter even took a bite him self. The dogs seemed to love them. Fourth, you are right there in the middle of Monterey. Close to the wharf, Cannery Row, aquarium, downtown and the beach. There is also an excellent trail nearby that runs along the coast. Rent a bike for the day. And finally, the beer was excellent! They hand craft a dozen types of beer from lagers to double IPAs. All of the ones I tried were excellent. Get a sampler or just ask to sample a few for free. They want you to find one you like! The food we had was pretty good as well. We ordered some appetizers. The garlic fries were the best. Again, the staff is awesome. I'll definitely be back!!!

It wasn't the food as much as the service, the facility and positive atmosphere at Peter B's that made our meal nice. A comfortable setting with a genuinely nice server can make up for less than stellar food. It wasn't that the food was bad on this visit but it was far from special. I had the spaghetti and sausage dish ($13.). The sausage was severely overcooked and the sauce lacked originality. As a matter of fact the sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee. I hate saying this but that was my first thought on first bite. My wife had the buffalo chili. Ordered off the happy hour menu the price was a steal for this rich flavorful dish. As starters our party of three shared garlic fries and a basket of fried calamari. The fries are very good, the calamari while tasty was wet with oil. The beers we sampled lacked a bold hop boost I personally look for but they went well with the finger food. I have no problem recommending Peter B's Brewpub.

We came here on a Friday evening during the Big Sur Marathon weekend. It was packed with people! For a party of 3, we waited for about 30-40 minutes. We tried getting a table at the bar, but were unsuccessful. Lucky for us, we were able to grab a few bags of popcorn and a pint of beer while we waited. Once we were seated, we were greeted by our friendly and attentive server. We ordered garlic fries and for the entree, I had the handmade sausage. The garlic fries were freakin delicious! I would go back and just order that and a beer. That would just make my day. The sausage on the other hand were uneventful. Nothing about the flavors stood out to me. The sausages were huge (that's what she said). I wasn't even impressed with the sides. Maybe it just wasn't for me. I'll be back to try other things on the menu though. Seems like there are other, more fitting dishes for me. Also seems like a fun place to hang out and grab a few beers while watching the game. It's definitely a popular place for young people!

I had a great time at Peter B's this Saturday. The service was excellent thanks to Carlos H. who was helpful in finding the right beer for me. I will have to try more appetizers next time but I really enjoyed the warm spinach and crab dip while drinking my Blonde Ale. I will definitely be back.

We came here on a world series baseball game night so we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table (they said 1 hour), when we were finally seat our server WAS AWFUL. Possibly the worst server ever. About 20 minutes after we order we get a new waiter who was on break? THAT SAVED THE DAY!!!! I would have given this place negative 1 star. Our food still came before our beer which is not the way it should be, although I was impressed by the rest of the service and that they weren't pushy to move the tables on such a busy night. The food was actually above average for a pub. The beers were great but we barely drank half of our flights because we were wine tasting all day before that :( I recommend the catfish sandwich, it is different, the fried pickles on it are amazing!

Great atmosphere, food is good, and service is great. Awesome selection of beer. If you are lucky to have Carlos as server, you get the best service in bay area. Don't forget to try chocolate raspberry bomb.

The best!! Ethan G. Was such an awesome server we came back for a second time and made sure to be seated in his section! The food was fantastic! Ethan recommended the Helen Keller Estate Cabernet, and he was right! It was fantastic! Great food and awesome server, made for a great experience!

3.5 stars. Made a quick stop here because it was part of the hotel before heading over to dinner. It was cool that there were a few tables outside with a little fireplace since it was a nice day out. We came in during happy hour and only ordered a pink lady and beer flight. The boy got to pick what beer he wanted for the flight from the money as opposed to a pre fixe menu. He got 5 or 6, 4 oz beers and enjoyed them. The pink lady was a little sweet for my liking. If I was in the hood, I might come back. But not my first choice.

Went here two nights in a row with a wedding party. First night was great and the second was a horrendous experience. I'm giving two stars merely for the hard working employees we encountered on the Friday night; I'd give 1 star (or 0, if possible) if it weren't for them. With a reservation on a Friday night and some good brews, and the pool table to play on, we had a wonderful time after my friend's rehearsal dinner. The server was great and we assumed it would be the same the following night. Sadly, it was far from great on Saturday night. The staff was rude to the large group of us, grabbed drinks out of people's hands (including the father of the bride!), and instigated an argument by name calling on the patrons and pissing off the yes, drunk clientele. (They literally followed us out of the restaurant and through the hotel. Totally unnecessary!) Having worked in the food industry and alcohol industry especially, I know that you have to handle people... but the way that they handled this was absolutely unappreciated, unprofessional, and unacceptable. [See Megan B's review for further details. I don't want to get heated all over again!] Bottom Line - Most of the staff needs to be retrained on how to offer customer service and to be aware that not all of the patrons are drunk, so be careful what you say and DO!

Love hanging out there, but not when it's crazy busy. Beer is great, free popcorn is even greater! Food is so-so, but I don't come to a brew pub for food. A solid 4-star for overall experience!

We love this place. This is our second visit on this vacation and our server Lauren made this visit awesome. The food and beer is also delicious again today so no matter who's cooking and which ever server you get it's awesome and will make your lunch or dinner awesome. The happy hour actually makes you happy here. The prices are very affordable especially for being Monterey and the hotel it's attached to. Love this place and the staff. We will be back

Great food, affordable prices, awesome beer and even better service. Ethan was our server and he was on top of everything. He brought over our drinks quickly, and our food followed soon after. He was very polite and almost read our minds with our needs, bringing over napkins and refills before we even asked. He anticipated our needs and made the experience for us! Thank you Ethan, you are great!

Cheers for beers! Great beer flights and selection. Extremely affordable and a fun place to gather with friends. We didn't eat anything at the time... but the beer flights are fun especially if you want to try all kinds. Tons of TV's to watch games and cozy firepits outside! We will be back.

Love coming here when in Monterey. Tried a Moscow Mule and it was great. On the menu tonight was the House Specialty pizza. Good price, tasty pizza with crab. They have a nice bar, full restaurant seating and a room with a pool table. The pizza had good flavor and we were happy with the food overall. Service was great from the time we walked in. Megan was fantastic, helpful and very pleasant. Try Peter B's. They seem to love their regulars as well as visitors!

This is such a fun place! We watched the Golden State Warriors play and enjoyed the IPA they brew here so much, we bought our first growler. The cheese curds are the best I've had since my State Fair days living in the Midwest. Great and friendly waitstaff. We had a great time. Thanks Peter B's!

I love this place. The food is great for bar food. Their crab dip is so delicious. They have a great beer selection which seems to change every time I'm there. The staff is really upbeat and nice . The service is very quick and the servers are knowledgeable about the beer selection. They have flat screen televisions with just about every sport playing in each room. I'll be back soon.

The beer is good! There is a lot of "water downed beer" around, but this place is definitely a must try.! The Inclusion Amber Ale is fabulous ! I've been into alot of lighter lately and it definitely caught my attention. Our server Ethan was great, we got our food fast, with no problems, I would recommend a visit to any friends, or anyone visiting the area. The flight is priced perfect, taco Meat was decent, but the tortillas are definitely a one star. ... they should definitely look into home made or cook them a bit longer. . But my main focus was beer, so I was pleased !

Great $1 tacos on Thursday nights! (or 5 for $4) You can choose from beef, chicken, carnitas, or veggie. They're not very big but yummy and a good deal for what you get. They make awesome beer. Fave was the raspberry wheat. Oh, love their onion rings.

  • David B.

The best chili I've ever eaten. I think about it for days afterward. Yum!! Beer is very good. Service is good. Better than what you would expect at a brew pub. They are kid friendly and respectful of my food allergies. The grilled chicken was also tasty.

At a conference in Monterey, we were looking for a place to relax and get drinks and dinner. We were so lucky to find this place! The service was top quality (thank you, Alexandria!), the onion rings not greasy at all - the two of us ate 2 orders! Lots of sports action around us. The wait was only about 15 minutes and they used our cell number to notify us so we could wander the beautiful town a bit. Highly recommend this wonderful new place!

So my hubby had been wanting to try this place out for a while, and we had lunch there today. We had a really difficult time finding the restaurant, based on the address. My husband is disabled and cannot walk far, and we couldn't find convenient handicap parking. The restaurant was not crowded and we asked for an inside table. My husband and I were seated at a booth facing the bar, just next to the kitchen entrance, when there were many more appealing tables open. I should have requested to be moved at that point. Our server, Nadia, was fabulous, however my husband & I both heard another male server stating "he had to pee", from the hallway to the kitchen. Appetizer was delivered from a server other than ours, and according to my hubby, he was looking down my shirt. Really???? Food was not enough to bring me back.

Jesus Martinez is the best server here at Peter B's! Our food was so quick to come out during the Super Bowl when the place was full. He was always smiling and just so sweet! Amazing food and great atmosphere! I will most deff be back! Thanks Jesus :))

Their calamari is pretty good as is their open faced catfish sandwich. They have a nice selection of beers. I'd stay away from their tacos because they are extremely dry in my opinion. I like the sports bar ambiance. Customer service is not shabby as their servers are pretty attentive.

Come here once in awhile, but everything I do I am far from disappointed. Our server Gina was sweet, accommodating, and very patient (which is hard to do with the group I was with). I had the cheese curds (just can't get enough of those!) and my group also had various apps. I took one star off for the bathrooms. Still only one stall (same as last time) and there was no toilet paper so a box of tissues was left by the toilet. Weird. Overall positive experience :)

Every time I go to Peter B's I always have a great time. The host Dave quickly took me to a table in the bar area and I started with a Belly Up Blonde Ale... extremely good beer. The waitress, jessica, recommended the Seafood Linguini and it was delicious. It had shrimp, mussels, clams & I think swordfish in a white wine sauce... it was a really good pasta dish and a large portion. It also came with garlic bread. After dinner some spots were free at the bar so I moved to get a better seat to watch one of the games on the tube. I always get great service here and Jesus and Jeff never let me down. They let me try a few of their new beers and I settled with their Dear Abby... I believe it's Belgian style and its really good. I'm definitely be coming back to see what new beers they get.

Came here for beers last night, ended up doing a tap flight. My boyfriend ordered a pint of the stout and I got a pint of the blonde. The server was very friendly (a brunette girl). Came for lunch today and got the club sandwich. It was the best club sandwich my boyfriend or I have ever had. Super fresh ingredients. Our server Jesse was very friendly and attentive, and told us about some local beer places to check out. Great experience, will definitely be back next time were in Monterey :)

After moving to PG from Arizona it was proving difficult to find a casual and inexpensive place to go for drinks and food. So glad to have discovered Peter Bs! It is our go-to place; my boyfriend loves the beer and we have yet to have a bad experience with the menu options! Margaritas are strong and the beers are always unique. We love the chicken strips and the pastrami sandwich!

I love Peter Bs. I have been living in the area for 7 years, and as soon as I turned 21 this place became one of my favorite spots to stop at during weekend nights out. They have great beer, service, free popcorn, pool table and TVs basically everywhere. I was there during the 2012 world series when the Giants won, and it was insanely fun! Recently I was there for dinner, usually I stick to the bar, but it was for my baby bro's 21st birthday. Our server Jeff was awesome! He brought out our tasters and apps we ordered and brought 2 extras for my brother to try, since it was his bday! The food was pretty good. Had the crab cake salad! Will be back many more times!!

This place is a hit over and over again!!!!!!!!! The service makes it every time and the food, beer and atmosphere is icing on the cake. By far the best bartender combo in town, I like to call them J squared( Jeff and Jesus)!! I also love the extremely dog friendly patio where the team of Levi, Rob and Nadia never leave me with an empty beer or my dog without water or treats!!!!! Thank you Peter B's, thank you.

This place is a good stop. The portions are huge and the food is good. They offer lots of beers and beer flights, as well as wine. The prices are reasonable, especially for the large portions. I really enjoy their fish and chips. Come enjoy a meal then walk right outside to the water, can't beat it.

I went here for the first time with a friend of mine. Right off the bat I had a great laugh with our server, her name was Alexandria or Alex for short is what she she told me she likes to go by. Since it was my first time here I asked her what she likes and she recommended the Swedish Meat Balls & raspberry bomb for dessert. Once I got my food and drink, I was over joyed by how great they both were. I immediately thanked her for her recommendations and proceded to enjoy the rest of the night. I definitely will be a returning customer because of her great service and the great experience I had at Peter B's. I recommended it to all my friends in the area & told them to ask for Alex because she's awesome.

Enjoyed outside seating with dogs! Perfect weather. Had hummus and calamari appetizers and Beer flights. All very good. Main dishes excellent. Only down fall was service. VERY slow. Over 20 minutes from time seated until even acknowledged. Like that whole meal. I however recommend and I would go back hoping service was better that gets a negative rating

Some reviews just have to be repeats, or re-Pete's, get it? Aww, I'm corny...I know. We came back to Peter B's after lunch for a beer sampler. There are five beers to a sampler for $6.50 and each beer is about 5 oz. That's 25oz of Peter B's brewed beers for the price of one. So since there were two of us and nine beers on tap, we ordered a full set and a double of one of them. We both sipped the Blonde Ale, Amber Ale, IPA, Wheat, Stout, Fly by Night, 40 Acre Pale, Sleep Tight Belgian, Cask Ale. Oh yummmmm. After that, I ordered a Grey Goose Red Bull - since the fun was just starting and I needed a little boost of energy. Service is great, the beers are great and prices are great - so each time we come back to Monterey, you can find us at Peter B's.

Service was lousy. I ordered A burger with avacado and mushrooms. They forgot my mushrooms but charged me for them. My burger had no flavor whatsoever. Definitely not worth the price.

Their cheeseburger was the driest I've ever had. Their fries were soggy. I ate their because I stayed at the Portola Hotel and it was convenient,, but won't repeat that mistake.

Dog friendly patio. Nice beer selection of course. The fish tacos were ok. The pulled pork needed a bit more zest in the sauce. Ok service but not horribly attentive to us. It's a beer pub after all. The pizzas were yummy!!! We enjoyed the bar b que chicken/bacon pizza and a pepperoni pizza. Overall an adequate food experience at a fair price.

New favorite restaurant in Monterey!! Went here for the first time in a while and it was FANTASTIC! The place was packed but we didn't have to wait long for a table. The service was outstanding and the beer was impeccable! So great to have a local brewery with such amazing beer!! Good was great, too. Perfect pairing for their beers. Joined their loyalty club and will definitely be back!!

My fiancé and I stayed in Monterey this past weekend. We stayed at the portola hotel and spa. The great thing about this hotel is that Peter b's is attached to it. I ordered the ceviche. It was delicious. Although I didn't like tasting it the second time around while it was being violently expelled from my body. THANKS FOR THE FOOD POISONING. The service was good. But I don't real like paying $50 for something to POISON ME.

We used to come here years ago and back then we loved it! Although the service especially the food became increasingly worse we kept hoping that it might go back to its glory days. Our visit yesterday will be our last. We ordered things that we thought they couldn't screw up not only did they screw it up but they took their time doing it. The nacho was disgusting, my chili fries was gross and they put it on the same plate as my burger so it was a soggy burger. What a disappointment this place has become...

Our favorite bar in town! Great happy hour with food is a plus. The bartender, Jeff always gives us great service. I like that you can join the mug club and decorate your own mug.... Also get awesome deals by doing so! I would recommend the buffalo chili and the cheese curds in the happy our menu. The chipotle chicken sandwich and pizzas are also my favorite. Check it out !

Went here on a busy Thursday night and the service was great. Our waitress, Larissa, was great. She was really friendly and kept coming back to make sure everything was okay. She even asked if my friends steak was cooked to their liking. It was nice. You could really tell she cared. You always want waitresses like that! The speed of service was amazing too. I think we spent more time waiting for a table than we did waiting for our food. We were all surprised we got the food so fast. The only thing I didn't like was the chicken strips I got. It didn't really taste like chicken. It tasted like its fried with the fish, at first I thought I was eating a fish stick and it was way overcooked. Other than that, this place was great. All the other food was amazing.

I went here while on vacation, thanks to a great deal I picked up on another site. I want to give kudos first to our waiter, Jeff Allen, who was the friendliest, most attentive server I've encountered in years! He had a thorough knowledge of the menu and anticipated anything we needed. Service can make or break a dining experience for me, and having him as our waiter was a delight. The deal I purchased was dinner for two: two appetizers, two entrees, and two beer flights. My partner and I each picked different flights so we could sample all 10 beers. Being from San Diego, we have access to many great craft breweries. The beers here were ok, but nothing quite wowed me. Still, I enjoyed the selection. For our appetizers we chose the Nachos with Braised Pork and the Monterey Cali-mari. The calimari was cooked perfectly, and the garlic aioli sauce they drizzle on is delicious. The nachos were HUGE and tasted great. For dinner we ordered a Cobb salad and the Crispy Ranch Chicken Strips that come with garlic fries. After our two appetizers we were already full, so we ended up taking the rest of the food to-go. We ate both meals cold the next day, while on the road. Even cold and a day old, both entrees were great. (Yes, cold garlic fries.... If I can enjoy them cold, I can only imagine how great they were when they were fresh). I subtracted half a star for the beer, and half a star because they ran out of the salad I wanted to order (Roasted Salmon Nicoise). But overall, you can't really ask for much more. If I was a local I would definitely return and bring friends along.

Let me start off by saying that we're always very happy with Peter B's. The beer is great, food is often good and the service is always attentive. Unfortunately, Peter B's has updated the menu. We ordered the "Chinese Chicken Cashew Salad" (Sautéed Chicken Breast with Toasted Cashews, Jalapeños and Apples, Tossed in Asian Style Sesame Soy Vinaigrette, Over a Bed of Organic Mixed Greens, Mandarin Oranges and Sesame Soy Dressing, Topped with a Crispy Noodle Garnish). What we expected was a cold Chinese Chicken Salad. What we got was more like piping-hot sweet and sour chicken with sautéed apples dumped over wilting mixed greens. It was terrible. First of all, if it's hot, don't call it a salad. Sauteeing the apples and the tiny amount of jalapeño with the chicken in a copious amount of 'sesame soy dressing' (read sweet and sour sauce) was a let down. We were expecting the crisp crunch of raw granny smith apples complemented by a little heat from the jalapeños over a chilled and lightly dressed salad. What we got was weird and unappetizing. I'll continue to visit Peter B's, but the new Chinese Chicken Salad is definitely off my menu there.

Went to Peter B's on a Sunday night while visiting Monterey. Had a great time tasting beer flights and filling up on appetizers. The groups deal we fit was perfect. Almost too much food. But it was nice to be taken care of. Our server Megan was wonderful. She was very aware of the timing of when things were being brought out so could finish our appetizers. She offered to bring back a drink that was a bit too sweet to make it better with no issues and set us up at a fire pit outside to enjoy some drinks after dinner. I would defiantly go back :)

Loved the place! Comfortable atmosphere, Great food, great beer !! The service was awesome, but our Bus person..what a fantastic job he was doing! Not just at our table but he was working the whole place. That young man was not only attentive and quick, he had a great personality... loved his presence. The young man's name is LEVI. At first we thought he was a waiter because he was so ... knowledgeable and present. He would be great at serving. We'll definitely be back. Maybe he'll serve us next time as a waiter. "Good luck young man. You should, be Bartending..." thankyou...family 3.

Food was fantastic! Fresh seafood linguine was fabulous. Beers were even better. I'm a certified beer judge and the variety of styles were both fantastic and made to style. Experimental hop IPA, cream ale, blonde, stout, imperial stout, barrel aged barley wine, pale ales, bohemian lager...just killed it. Kid friendly, food was quick, fresh, and delicious. Beer was better. Thank you!!

Jessica our server was amazing. She had a great attitude and was extremely attentive. The beer was very good, the food was a great value with the Groupon and was quite good. I would have rated 4 stars, but our server was too amazing to not give 5 stars.

Everytime I come here, the service is amazing. All the servers are friendly and the specials during sporting events are great. Jeff the bartender, especially, is always very helpful and is never short, like some can be. This place is highly recommended.

From the beginning to the end, this was a great experience. Our server Ethan was patient with us and our small kids. All of his recommendations were spot on. The service was timely but not obtrusive. The manager Franco checked in on us early during our experience and was equally charming and accommodating. We were dorks and mentioned we were there on our anniversary. At the end of the meal they gave us a small growler of the Amber ale for the road. This was a great referral from our family friend Josh. Everything went above and beyond our expectations.

My 1st visit here only consisted of a beer (my 1st craft beer) & it was super. My 2nd visit: I partook in ordering $1 tacos and a $4 pint during the end of their happy hour on Thursday, where a lot of MIIS students frequent, and they were good (I´m really picky when it comes to tacos). They have beef, chicken, veggie, and pork and it makes a cheap dinner in Monterey! My 3rd & 4th visits were great because I partook in ordering food from the happy hour menu and they were delicious [3rd: chili & cheese curds and 4th: garlic fries & three cheese bombers (not on the HH menu)]. I always get the seasonal brews, but have yet to try their regular house beers, which should be great too. My service experiences have been hit or miss because my sit down experiences were much slower, but my times at the bar have never let me down. Regardless, this place is worth the hype!

  • Mira N.

I'm really torn about how to review this place. For Monterey, it's probably 4-stars; but for any place where breweries are commonplace, it's more of a 2. So I'm averaging it to a 3. They've revised the menu in the past few months. I was really hopeful about some of the new additions (e.g. fried cheese curds, pickles, pretzel) but have been underwhelmed. There are definitely some solid beer-drinking eats (e.g. nachos) and I will continue to eat/drink my way through the menu. The service is usually very good and it's a great place to watch sports. They have outdoor seating with some fire pits. Since it's connected to a hotel, which is connected to the conference center, you will sometimes encounter really interesting conference attendees.

I just recently found out about Peter Bs and it's awesome there's always a great atmosphere, an awesome brew, and a meal to finish it off. I plan on coming here for all my sports needs from now on. Jeren is the server I would ask for when you first stop in!

My room mate and I had the Best time we have ever had. Our server Megan was Excellent. So excellent that we had to tell the manager in duty how amazing our service was. She recommended an amazing beer to try and was very kind and helpful.

Thank Goodness for a GroupOn! Atmosphere and location are prime, but overall that's what stood out. I usually always find two-three beers I like at a brewery and nope not here... Only one sufficed. The appetizers were good portions but the artichoke crab dip had way too much cheese and the Calamari was ok. Hamburger was standard and the fish tacos... Disappointed in the flavor. Overall I'd go back if meeting somewhere there but wouldn't be my first choice.

On the road, looking for craft beer. Found Peter Bs and the IPA definitely fit the bill (Non-Californians heads-up: If you bring a growler to be filled, you have to have the Surgeon General warning printed out and attached to the bottom of the growler! They cannot fill it without this. Bummer for an Oregonian. But-- Tip: we MIGHT have pulled one off a wine bottle at the grocery store and used that. I'm not saying we DID, just that we MIGHT have. Problem solved, growler filled.) Food--totally mediocre, except for fabulous fresh and good popcorn in the bar, and the sweet potato fries, which are solid. Also--for more quiet sports-viewing and if you have your dog with you, plan on sitting outside at one of the fireplace table. It's terrific.

Stopped in with the groupon. Great deal for $40--- tons of food, came with 2 appetizers two entrees and two complete beer flight. We had calamari, crab artichoke dip, fish and chips, steak and fries. My wife and I both thought the food was amazing and the beer was pretty decent but could be better everything was a little bit too sweet. I did have a tall Imperial IPA that was pretty tasty ! I think we would definitely go back but it definitely helps to have a coupon or happy hour!

Bar snacks are above average quality and quantity is large. Entrees are about average quality compare to restaurants. Definitely try their beer flights. We LOVE it! The more you order, the bigger variety you can select. Absolutely recommend this place for your happy hour with a group of friends.

Went in to try a few beers and get some appetizers. Food is great, had cheese curds, jumbo pretzel, some crab spinach and artichoke dip. We had excellent service. A manager/hostess had borrowed our server and forgot to send her back in a timely manner so she comped us a free fried pickles dish. Enjoyed the beers enough to buy a Growler. 25 bucks for a first time fill up.

Staying at the Portola Hotel, I walked outside and over to this amazing brewpub. Why was it amazing? Well, other than the great selection of beer--this place is filled to the brim with locals. I was engaged by the locals while eating dinner--learning about Monterey and the start of the tech revolution years ago. Essentially, a lot of locals come here--and they're willing to share their stories. The food was good, but the ambience and beer made up for it. Visit the brewpub if you're looking for great beer and amazing conversation.

2.5 stars the place is nice, cute outdoor patio with fire pits and its dog friendly. We went on a Sunday late night and the place was probably about 30% full. My bf and I were seated quickly and our waiter was super friendly and promptly brought us our beers. We ordered quickly and he left. As we waited for our appetizers, a second waiter brought us our entrees and so I asked him to please hold off on the appetizers that never arrived. He was very apologetic, even though it was not his fault, and offered to bring it to us anyway complimentary. We politely declined and continued with our meals... but then we needed hot sauce, so my bf had to get up to steal some from the hosts table himself. No biggie. Ohh but look, there's our original waiter chatting at the bar, fantastic! I'm happy that he's happy. After a few minutes, he came to check on us, and instead of apologizing for forgetting our appetizers, he asked if we are missing anything. Umm yes we missed YOU dude! Anyway, we were just happy to be eating. Our food was great, beer was not so bad and the ambiance was nice. Our MIA guy came back and we ordered another beer. After ten minutes, a third waitress came by to deliver it, because I think the MIA guy was probably busy brewing a fresh batch at the back. Ahh, nope, he's at the bar again talking to his bud. Must be nice. We later made a ridiculous mistake of ordering dessert. Our guy then disappeared for seriously 15 minutes, ok 17 minutes, but who's counting? We had to stop waitress number 4 to ask if she could please bring us our bill. She proceeded to walk around to the bar to delegate to our poor waiter who seems to continue to get lost. He came over finally to deliver a slice of ice cream cake and our bill with a smile. Thanks guy. We smiled too, happy he's had such a great time. Had it not been for his carelessness and lack of service, I would be raving about coming back to this place, but he totally ruined this experience for us. The good thing is we always have a great time on our own. Too bad we won't be having one here again anytime soon. NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

First stop in Monterey is the one brewpub in town. They need another one. Peter B's was kind of hard to find due to the fact it's tucked behind the Portola hotel. But whatever. We went in and were seated immediately. Beer: Girlfriend ordered a flight of the following: Coffee imperial stout, stout, marzen lager, hef, and blonde. I got a pint of the IPA. The IPA was decent. My girlfriend's blonde was fantastic, and I'm usually not impressed with blondes. The coffee imperial stout was also really good. The rest were average. They listed they have cask beers available, but sadly they did not have any that night. Boo. Food: Eh. We ordered the wings and chips and salsa as appetizers. The wings were actually really good. Chips and salsa were mediocre. For food I had the pulled pork sandwich, and she ordered the fish tacos. Both weren't great. The fries were really good though Total bill was about $50. It was good, but I wouldn't go back for the food except for the wings. I would go there just for a beer and a bite...not a whole meal. Make sure you check out the candy store next door. We blew $30 in there alone.

My wife and I went to celebrate her birthday. Our server was Jessica. She was great! We started with the ceviche and the crab spinach artichoke dip. I'm not much of a fan of ceviche, but this was pretty good, and my wife loved it. The crab dip was delicious. Probably better with the chips than with the bread. Ordered two flights of beer. They went from good to pretty good. My wife's favorite was the coconut espresso porter. A bit of a dessert beer. Then we ordered fish & chips and steak. My wife doesn't normally order fish & chips, but she just ran a marathon. Lots of fries came with this! I had the steak. I may have missed it on the menu, but it came in three strips, which led to some confusion on how it should be cooked. The sauce was real good. Lastly, for my wife's birthday, Jessica brought her out some cheesecake! It was pretty good. I'd go back if I lived near here.

My husband and I went here on a groupon because we were staying at a hotel nearby. We were not impressed at all. It was so loud in there that we had to shout to each other to talk and so warm that I was sweating and fanning myself with a napkin. The food was mediocre, the steak was tough and hard to cut and the jalapeño bombs were RAW jalapeños, the seeds still inside and everything. We would definately not eat here again.

On an overnight trip to Monterey, we were in search of beer. But not just any beer, we wanted to taste some local libations. Peter B's sits in a really great location, just off the Old Fisherman's Wharf, but tucked away from the constant throng of clam chowder slurping tourists. The patio outside is pleasant and inviting, and we quite enjoyed the fire pits being lit. They serve their beer in two sizes, and as I most often observe, "go big or go home big." And their big is BIG! I imbibed on their Wheat Ale...loved the unfiltered-ness and how easy it was going down. In fact, I might have had a second mug, just saying. And kudos on their logo...striking and quite refreshing for a beer joint. Suicide (by beer) Jacks!

We held a party at Peter B's last weekend for our wedding guests the night before the wedding. It was a fantastic night and I have to say that the service we received throughout the planning process from Devin, as well as that night from our server, Megan, was wonderful! The space we were able to utilize was perfect for our guests. We made use of the pool table, the booths, and the tables throughout the night, and it was especially nice that our guests had the option of sitting or standing, allowing for a great night of mingling, which was our goal with so many out of town guests to the wedding. The beer was great, and everyone left happy! The complaint we have (and the reason we couldn't give 4 or 5 stars), is based on our service for a second visit we made on Saturday night. Our group had enjoyed ourselves so much on Friday night, and Peter B's was on the way back to our hotel from the wedding venue, so it seemed logical that when we decided we weren't done for the night when the wedding shut down, we would stop by for a nightcap on the way back to the hotel. That turned into one of the worst service experiences I personally have ever experienced in my life. We arrived at last call (around 12:30) which was surprising as it still seemed so early, but was no problem for us. Everyone grabbed a quick drink and we were enjoying ourselves. There was another wedding group in there as well, so we were all bonding with each other over our nights. About 15 minutes after we arrived, we were told that drinks had to be finished in the next 15 minutes. We are all used to last calls, so again, this wasn't such a big deal. But literally at the 15 minute mark, staff started coming around and grabbing drinks out of our hands. And this wasn't just a group of young people...my mother and father both had drinks taken from them. So of course people were upset. Things got out of hand at that point, and bouncers and staff began to harass our party to get us to leave, including one bouncer calling my matron of honor a "drunk bitch." I am not denying that our group was drunk at the time, but I personally was not drunk, and I did not see anyone acting in such a way that warranted that kind of treatment by staff, but I will account for the fact that that treatment did cause things to become a lot worse between our group and the staff at Peter B's. I have personally worked in the wait-service industry, and there is a way to deal with people who are intoxicated and there are certainly certain methods of reigning people in that should be avoided. I get that the bar needed to shut down, but I have never been to a bar where drinks were taken from people's hands. And the verbal harassment to get us to leave was beyond reproach. And to make matters worse, those same bouncers continued to follow our group and rather than let it go, continued to verbally harass and react to some of the drunker people in our group which caused the situation to explode. While I do not excuse the behavior of a few of my drunk friends, that all could have been avoided by those bouncers/security taking the high road and just letting it go and letting us go on our way. But instead, they followed us around the building, and even came through the building and continued to call out to us as we passed the front of the Portola hotel on our way back to our hotel. It is disappointing that the behavior of a few staff could completely ruin our impression of this establishment after having had such an enjoyable time there the night before. But the behavior of a few can ruin the impression people have of an establishment, and I'm pretty sure that as much as I loved my experience with Devin and our great server Megan, we probably won't be coming back.

This place is a great value! While the beers and food are not top notch, they are decent and very cheap. I was pleasantly surprised that the flight was only $6.50. I am an IPA kind of person and really liked theirs. I had fried calamari - very good, not chewy at all. I also went with fish tacos - I like the fish, and whatever else went inside, but the shell was hard and unappetizing. I also ate my friend's French fries, which were delicious! then just drank more beer. The service was little on the slow side, but they were slammed, so overall I felt they were handling the traffic ok. If you are looking for a good value place, this is it. Thanks

First off, I would like to apologize for my outdated reviews. With work and other obligations I have left yelp behind. Have no fear though for I recall the experiences well enough to write a legitimate review worthy of being read. We wanted to take our friends from out of town out for a good night. Our original plan was to go to Indian Summer for hookah but they were packed beyond capacity. Thankfully, Peter B's was nowhere near that busy plus there was the option of free pool, provided the table was up for grabs. At first, all we wanted were a few drinks and a round of pool but to our dismay, the table was occupied! After glancing over the menu, everyone decided to order food so I figured I would as well. For some inexplicable reason, I was craving a burger and settled on trying the Highway 1 (pepper jack cheese, Anaheim chili and a chipotle aioli. The food came out together in a timely manner. The server was prompt and did his job well. When it came to my burger, I was disappointed. While it was cooked as I had asked for, medium rare, everything else fell drastically flat. I was expecting an explosion of flavor and heat but instead it was mild at best. Where was the zip? Where was punch! I do not care for spicy food so I can definitely tell if its there or not. It clearly was not evident in my burger that night. Random tangent: while waiting for the bartender to finish giving shots to the guys in front of me, mind you they were in suits, she proceeded to ring up their tab. As soon as she turned her back they left with a big smirk on their face. She ran after them but they were no where to be found. No idea how much the tab was but that was shady business. Overall Thoughts Free pool, assuming you can grab it up + standard pub food = the night is what you make of it!

They recently revamped their menu and remodeled the place. Good and warm ambiance when I was there on Friday. I really missed the beer while they were closed. I had their steak and fries. Good portion, very filling in small bites, and I got no grief over the sacrilege of A1 sauce. The beer is incrediballs. For reals. Good job, fellas.

They keep a decent gluten free beer (Green's) so they get my approval! I did get an order of really burnt fish tacos, but everything else was good. When I mentioned the burnt tacos they apologized and the manager discounted the check... So I think they handled it perfectly.

Amazing sweet potato fries! My boyfriend and I where able to eat at the bar which was awesome so we didn't have to wait for a table. The service was friendly and quick. Good drinks at the bar. We will definitely go back next time we are in town.

This place is fantastic. I feel like every time I'm here the experience is outdone by the last. The beer is fantastic, and almost all brewed fresh at Peter B's. The staff is friendly, especially our most recent waiter Robert. He had great suggestions and remembered us the second time he waited on us, that's some awesome service! I definitely recommend Peter B's. The food is great, the beer is incomparable and the service is excellent, what more could you ask for?

Great bar, and the only (I think) local brewery . It's a really cool place, with a good bar menu. He finished shift before we left, but massive kudos to Jesus, for making us feel so welcome - the only reason we stayed to order the tasty food.

My friends and I usually come here every thursday for $1 taco night. Great price for pretty decent tacos great atmosphere and great beer. Last night we went for there reopening after their renovation. Jeff was our server and couldn't be more nice, helpful and accomodating. It was the first time I'd have something other than tacos there. My boyfriend got chichen strips and fries which came with three different types of sauces to dip. All very fantastic and favorful! I ordered the buffalo wings which were tasty and spicy which I love! I usually get their blonde ale which never disappoints and my boyfriend goes for the IPA's. We had the pleasure of meeting the brewmaster which my boyfriend and his friends loved since the like to brew there own beer. Overall, we always have a great time here. I encourage everyone to give it a shot!

We went to Peter B's for the 49er game and we had a great time!! Our server Jeff Allen was very attentive and made sure we had every thing we could possibly need! He even joked around with us about the game. A great server and we will be back because of him.

This is probably my favorite spot in Monterey. They have great food, a great atmosphere, good beer brewed right on location (and a decent selection), and I've never had anything but excellent service. The prices are extremely fair, especially if you take advantage of their daily specials and/or happy hour. My favorite day is Thursday, as they have $1 tacos (or 5 for $4!) and $3 pints of their own brews until I believe 8pm. This deal is ridiculous. The tacos are small but 5 of them will be plenty for you. Be sure to try the Citra IPA as well!

I really enjoyed our visit to the a brewpub. Beers were the highlight (we each did a flight of beers, which gives you a choice of 5 4-oz glasses to sample). Chicken wings were good and had a kick. Crab-cheese dip a bit bland. Steak tips were tough and over done. Service was excellent.

We were here on a Saturday night after walking through the plaza and noticing that their bar patio was dog friendly. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table with a fire pit but the host, David, called us on our cell phone when it was ready so we could walk around with our dog while we waited. The staff were extremely friendly and our dog, Jake, was immediately treated to a homemade dog biscuit which they make in house. He loved it and they explained how it was made with the residuals from their brewing (I forgot what he actually said). It was soft like a scone. I asked if they package and sell them, which they don't, but he gave us a doggie bag of some to take home. Thank you David! Enough about Jake's treats. We were going to have apps and dinner but were full after just the fried artichoke hearts (a must try, very delicious and a local favorite) and nachos (so huge we couldn't finish them, but the shredded pork was very good, maybe a little dry, but very tasty). We watched other food being delivered to other tables and it all looked good. My husband had a couple of their beers and margaritas were my drink of choice. All in all, a great atmosphere for hanging out, especially if you have a four legged loved one. The fire pits are great.

The service was extremely slow and it was not a busy time of day... late lunch time. It took a very long time to be acknowledged or offered drinks and those took a very long time to be delivered. Calamari portion was small and overcooked.. Expected better next to the wharf. Expensive cup of Soup took forever to come out and when it did it was very thin watery clam chowder and luke-warm. Yuck. Could have gotten it cheaper and faster and tastier at the "free sample" places on the wharf. We had to send the soup back to be re-heated and even then it was not very good. Ordered the fish and chips which were good but very small portion and the fries were also cold. My boyfriend ordered the club sandwich and my niece ordered the burger which I think were edible but nothing special. We are from the area but had out-of-town guests so I was a little embarrassed by my choice to go here. Wanted somewhere for my picky niece to eat and they had burgers. The only plus to this place was the beer was good and we were able to see the football game that my out of town guests wanted to see. We wanted to enjoy a quick lunch but it took almost 2 hours. Most of that time we were waiting for our food which was mediocre and overpriced. If you want lower end bar food and beer this is the place but I don't recommend it for a good meal or fast service. The waiter was not very professional plus did not apologize for the wait or offer any discount on the food. I visit Monterrey often and we stay at the Portola at least 1-2 times per year but will hesitate to go to eat here again. Since it is connected to the Portola Hotel I expected much better. Again, this place is good for a drink and watching sports in the bar but don't expect much more.

Peter B's is one of my favorite places to go out in Monterey. They have good beer and well cooked, well seasoned food. The last time I visited, my girlfriend and I used a Groupon with the intention of hanging out for quite awhile and watching sports on the many TVs they have. I know it can be frustrating for servers when a table stays for a really long time but our server, Jessica, was very cool about it and extremely nice. We told her our intentions and she came around every so often to make sure we were still doing okay. The price, the atmosphere, the service and the food are all superb which is why I gave Peter B's a perfect score.

This place is the only brewery in Monterey and we sat outside with the multiple fire pits. Food menu looked great but we came to drink beer. Staff was knowledgeable and happy to help you. The beers.... nice selection and also they try their hands at seasonal. Seems to be a great local hangout. You will pay about 5$ a beer when not under happy hour. A plus from Phoenix traveler!

Came here over the Labor Day weekend because we remember it being fairly good when I was stationed here. Service was incredibly slow. The place was only half full and our server would disappear for 20-30 min into the back somewhere as even the tables around us were looking for him. Food was pretty bad. The menu is smaller than I remember leaving us very little to choose from. I had the chipotle chicken sandwich and my wife had a burger. Both were unseasoned and tasteless. The only thing that added flavor was the side of cold chipotle sauce for the chicken or ketchup for the burger. Both the French fries and onion rings tasted like they came from a bag and poorly fried. Beer was equally disappointing. This may be a little biased since I now live in San Diego which is the craft beer Mecca in my opinion. I tried 3 of their beers hoping that one would be good. Hefeweizen- No real flavor here. Tasted like a watered down Blue Moon. Absolutely no citrus flavor or real flavor at all. IPA- Generic IPA with nothing special about it. In my opinion not hoppy enough. Also had no head and very little lacing. Barrel Aged Porter- had the potential to be a good beer but just fell flat. The chocolate and coffee flavors were weak and didn't fill the mouth like other Porters. This beer also had a watered down taste and had no indication of aging. This used to be the only place that you could get a beer that wasn't a Bud/Coors rendition in Monterey. Now with Cannery Row Brewing Company down the road there is a much better option for beer. Maybe the Brewmaster at Peter B's should go down there so he could see what a good beer actually tastes like.

Had a TravelZoo deal ($29 for two appetizers, two entrees, and two beer flights, a $63 value!). Since I don't like beer, and Hubby couldn't possibly drink that much beer himself and still drive back to our hotel, I asked if I could get something else instead, and I was happily surprised with my glass of Pinot Grigio. Lirio, our server, was very prompt and nice. The food was very good: I had the short ribs and fish tacos, while Hubby had calamari and a garlic chicken sandwich along with his beer flight. Altogether, a nice place we'd return to the next time we're in Monterey. Recommend! :)

Food has got better over the years. The beer has changed. The brew master has a great style in seasonal or limited beer. If you come often, get a mug membership. Best money I have ever spent. I've been a member for over 10 years. Cheers y'all.

Pretty good beer, but the service was slow. They kept saying that the bar was backed up, but it wasn't really a super busy night, so I don't know why that would be a problem. Didn't try any food, just beer. But the beer was defintiely worth the stop.

We only found this place because our friend recently became a chef there. I was so pleased. Outside fire? Check. Flight of (homemade!!) beer? check. check. Great service? Well now you have me. I'm definitely a fan and am planning on making this our new local hub. Best: the porter and the belgian red. Must. Have. My husband is a huge IPA fan and loved both of their brews.

Slow service Good beer, decent food Yummy dog treats, well the pups think so And dollar tacos on Thursdays! Fire pits are awesome Though that all being said the food is overpriced I wish they could price things correctly or up the portion size. But they do do a really good football Sunday special. We come here a lot but don't tend to recommend it just because of the pricing.

Great BBQ Pulled Pork Sammy. End of Story. What sweetened the deal? Multiple TV's for prime Football watching, being served by the owner/manager, and having a comfy booth - hey, it's the little things. Easy to get to location, the food was served quick, and the fries were crispy not mushy, again, the little things. If you are in the mood for a BBQ Pulled Pork Sammy, this is a great spot, but eater beware, it comes with an Apple Slaw ON the Sammy, I personally wasn't a fan, but it was easily removed.

I'll give them high marks for the beer, but the food is pretty bad. Today, I had the Reuben sandwich, and it is the worst one I've had in my life. I know Monterey isn't NY or even Kansas City, but c'mon! The bread is generic buttered white bread; Reubens are supposed to use rye or pumpernickel! The corned beef is dried and crumbly. The sauerkraut is scant and tasteless. There is some vinegary sauce, but it isn't Russian dressing. Just horrible, and I couldn't finish it. $15. Edit: I just saw the local paper's food writer gushing over the food here, including the Reuben sandwich. I realize in a small town they never write bad things about the restaurants, but this was more egregious than the usual pap from this guy.

Came here with friends on my lil mini vacay and I have to say I really liked this place! Loved the beer flights. Great happy hour prices and the beer was so good. I liked that I could choose all the beers I want and that there were enough options to not get overwhelmed but enough to have variety. Great prices on the 16 oz and 25 oz beers as well. Such a good choice for happy hour. We also ordered the ceviche which is made with Fish and its so yummy and kosher . The other appetizer we ordered was the fried pickles, also yummy. The breading is almost reminiscent of fried cheese but it is so slight and all good. There is also free popcorn in the corner near the entrance and at night there are fire pits that are lit up and keep you nice and cozy. Over all a great place for HAPPY HOUR.

First the inside of the brewpub is really cool!!. We did not sit outside but they have tables with fire pits in the middle and looked really cool. They even have a TV behind glass so you can watch a sporting event while sitting outside!!! Beer flights very reasonable at only $6.50! Our waiter was really nice....wished he would have come to the table more during dinner and drinks but none the less he did a good job. There were 7 of us......the sweet potato fries....YUM!! The cheese curds were not cheese curds but mozzarella cubes BUT they were good.....just disappointed that they were not actually fried cheese curds! My Partner and I shared chicken stripes with sweet potato fries and they split it up into two orders ......that was nice. 3 people had the fish tacos and all said they were good......they looked good. We had a great experience ......good beer.......and for a Monterey Restaurant/Bar/brew pub they are reasonably priced. Free popcorn in the bar too!! Glad we are local......going back soon!!!!

It was my first time at Peter B's Brewpub and had a very welcoming hostess named Claudia. She was very nice. Plus the customer service was awesome too.

We had the Turkey club and cheese curds. Both were solid. Fries were also very good. Beer was GREAT! Jesus was our bartender and he was very attentive, and friendly. We had lunch, left, and returned for another round. I definitely recommend.

I'm not gonna lie the service at this place has gone straight to the crapper since I was last here. I guess all it takes is two years and several turnovers in staff without a proper hiring process to turn this place upside down. My boyfriend and I came here only because I recommended it and I wish I hadn't. We were seated outside since it was a hot day and we wanted to enjoy the weather while it lasted (and we all know it doesn't last in Monterey). Well, 10 minutes go by and not a soul comes to greet us or, at the very least, drop water and silverware off. It was ten minutes too long to sit there with nothing so we moved in to the bar thinking we'd get noticed. It took us having to walk up to the hostess to ask where our server was and why we hadn't been greeted yet to get someone to come over. Our server took our drink order but it took forever to bring over a beer and soda. You'd think they were picking the hops or something..... We ordered the artichoke to start and that also took forever so we helped ourselves to popcorn and thank god that was available. The artichoke was drenched in the reduction sauce and was just okay. For entrees, I ordered the chicken caesar salad and had a cup of clam chowder and my boyfriend ordered the fish tacos. The salad dressing didn't taste like caesar; it was closer to ranch but still edible and the tacos were alright according to my boyfriend so at least the food worked out okay. All in all, it wasn't a great experience and I won't be going back.

We found this place with a Travelzoo deal and it was awesome! The beer flights were great as well as their food. We tried the cheese bombers and it was way too spicy for us so we asked to get another appetizer. The manager came out and apologized for the bombers, which was super nice! We had the calamari appetizer, the roasted salmon salad, and the crab cake salad. Everything was great and will totally come back to this place next time I'm in town!

I went to Peter Bs last night and had a great experience. I sat in the bar area and was given excellent service by a female server ( Gina?). We camped out in front of the t.v.'s and ordered the beer tube which was awesome. Overall 5 star experience because of the service and food. We ordered pizza and calamari.

Had the pleasure of my wife and I joining some friends for the re-opening night at Peter B's. They've done a great job of making it a place to hang out, enjoy a bite and a beer, and even take in some of your favorite sports on the added televisions. Not a quiet venue but fun. With new items on the menu the pub style food is filling and delicious. AND the beer... One of the finest brewmasters in California, Kevin Clark, creates masterpieces that are sure to draw National attention. I'm in love with his Scottish Ale aged in Jack Daniels whiskey barrels. It would be a crime not to mention his Russian Imperial Espresso Stout, or the special casks, or even the five "House" beers. Definitely go! Taste Chef Jason Giles food and drink Kevin's beers. You'll be back.

We came in for drinks only in the middle of the afternoon on Friday. I think we must have bugged the guy working because we hardly saw him. Not the best service, he seemed to only want to have a good time. The beer was okay, definitely not overly impressed. We ordered two flights, and either the server or bartender messed up the order. Luckily my husband is a beer expert so he was able to taste each one and tell what it was, but they put two of the same beer on one flight. Boo.

Our waiter was awesome, the beer was great, the food not so great. Our fish and chips were 70% doughy breading and maybe 30% actual fish. Plus my husband got a few bones in his... I mean you could barely tear the 'breading' it was so thick and undercooked. We got the nachos and beers as well which were amazing. Our waiter and staff were all very friendly and we would go back, but only for the beer and service, maybe have dinner somewhere else.

We went to this place purely because it was close to our hotel, and the BF was sick of seafood. It had a really cute outdoor patio area with fire pits, and we were hopeful that the food would be as good as we experienced at the Fisherman's Wharf, which was right next door. The food was actually decent. I had the Monterey Calimari, which on the menu said it came with a serrano vinagrette, but arrived with a white sauce already on the calimari, and a red creamy dipping sauce. If it was serrano, it was not that spicy. But even though it wasn't as I expected, it was quite delicious, crispy and light. The bottom pieces were oily but the top and middle portions were fine. We also had the steamed Castroville artichoke, which was ok. The dipping sauces for that were drizzled on the plate, so if you like a lot of sauce, request extra. The drizzle won't cut it. My BF had the pulled pork sandwich, which I believe must have been good, because I didn't even get a try a bite, he ate it so fast! What turned us off to the whole experience was the service. The service was SO TERRIBLE that we actually considered getting up and walking out without paying, which I have never done in my life! I just wanted to get out of that restaurant. Our waiter disappeared and never came back after our orders, and no one came to check if we needed anything. The food took forever to come out, and then when it did, it came out all together instead of the appetizer first. It was virtually impossible to get anyone's attention. Like I said, we never saw our waiter again. When we finally flagged some other waitresses to get our check, we had been there for almost TWO HOURS. Just sitting. It was an awful experience.

Awesome beer, awesome service! Stopped in with a few friends for drinks. I was indecisive with my beer selection but Jessica our server was super helpful and sweet she recommended the raspberry wheat, which I truly enjoyed. Our group liked it so much we ordered a few pitchers of it. Definitely would recommend this place the beer is awesome. Ask for Jessica she will give you great recommendations!

Came here for a beer and was enticed into having some wings. Best choice I made. The IPA was on point, mouth-watering wings were practically inhaled, and the service was phenomenal. I'll be back again! And thanks for the fast service Jessica! Such a sweetheart!

Best service ever by Lizzet our server. She was fun and attentive. Perfect personality for such a fun bar. The food was very good since it was my first time I ordered most of their appetizers if not all. The jalapeño poppers were my favorite, spicy and full of cheese, and the wings were amazing, we are wing fans and these were great! Definitely will be coming back!

I like the place itself, but I think the food and service need to take it up a notch. They have a nice patio with fireplace tables and the inside has a bunch of TV's for watching sports. The menu seemed kind of lacking to me, I can't quite put my finger on it. I had a burger and it was fine. The main problem was they didn't bring out my wife's salad for ages. It was literally another 20+ minutes after the brought out the hamburger. Maybe it was just a bad night for them. I think it has potential to be better.

Came here for a quick snack and cocktail last weekend. Food was ok.. (too much batter on their fried pickles) but the drinks were good and our server Ashlee was the BEST! Its refreshing to have a very sweet, out-going server who you can actually tell enjoys her job. The "fire-pit" tables on the patio are awesome!!! Seriously, ask for Ashlee- she's great.

I was there last night for their $1 taco night with over 20 of my closest friends. It was a fun time and though the tacos were coming out of the kitchen out of order, our sever, Jessica took very good care of us...all 20 or so of us. She made sure everyone had what they ordered in a short amount of time. We will be back...fair warning.

Went here many times during college, and even visited many times after I graduated. I had plenty of great times here due to the atmosphere and the great beer. Get the raspberry wheat if you havent tried it before, or try the 'wall' if you dare. If you want a good server, ask for Jeff. Hes a good guy and a great server, always quick to help you out, and always willing to tell you whats good on the menu.

A couple of buddies and I went over to Peter B's and had a great time with some awesome beer brewed there. The service was great too. Lizette was helpful with our selection and gave us nice attentive service. I will be back soon for another relaxing night with my friends.

Went to Peter B's last Thursday night for a friends party. They have good specials on drinks and tacos for pretty much free! Fire pits are awesome and attracts a ton people. Food is good, but the beer is even better. Our server, Jeff, was attentive and nice as well as Ashley who made us laugh. Will defiantly be back soon!

Came here with a friend for the first time and it was pretty good. I ordered the meatloaf and it was really delicious. My friend and I had the NY Cheesecake for dessert and OMG, it was mouthwatering! It's a pretty casual restaurant and they have a pool table that you can play for free but it's on a first come first serve basis. You will need to ask the bartender to use the table. Service was a little slow, but our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Prices aren't so bad either...our total dinner including two alcoholic beverages cost around $50. They also have outdoor seating with outdoor heating lamps. I would definitely come here again.

Understaffed, poor service, and lousy food quality. The only redeeming factor is the wings-the person on the fry station is great. Arrived mid afternoon to avoid the rush. Our server greeted us, gave us menus, and went to get beer flights started. It took a while to get the beer flights, surrounding tables (that got there 10 min after we did) got beers sooner- but beer flights take time. Ordered food when the beer flights arrived- after this we would never see a server again until the end. Food runners quickly came by and dropped the food on the table. They were unapologetic but honest to the fact they had no idea what was going on- concerning much of anything. No napkins, no utensils, we were left to fend for ourselves. Waited to see if our server would return with necessities, but eventually found the server station to acquire these items after realizing she was not going to return. Food runners returned with more food. Got the "steak and fries" and "meatballs". "Meatballs" were more like mini meat loafs with poorly prepped carrots. The "bavette steak" was a various selection of multiple end cuts of beef with no seasoning and fries; not an actual bavette steak, but more of what was left of a few of them (maybe they ran out?). Not what you would expect for $18. You would get a better cut of meat at a cheap, off the strip casino in Vegas. The fries came with no ketchup, so I worked to get the attention of one of the staff to get ketchup. No luck- servers were nowhere to be found. Off to the server station again. No ketchup there. It took a trip to the prep area and then the kitchen. One server stopped me on my way to the kitchen and asked if he could help. I explained I was just looking for ketchup- I was delighted when he said he would get some, but then walked to a table to begin bussing it. Ok, smart- making the most effective use of his trip into the kitchen. But then he emerged with plates full of food and just walked past me without a word; still no ketchup. Eventually, I found a server that was able to provide me with the elusive ketchup. To be honest, your going to get way better meatballs at Ikea and a better "steak" ANYWHERE else. The crab dip was sad. Need to start over with serving staff and the chef. The person working the fry station is a gem. Again,"The Wingman" was the only redeeming factor. If your just in search of wings and beer, this is your spot. Horrible value and service otherwise.

I had lunch there today. The fries were frozen, yuk, and I think the Fish was frozen also. Very disappointed as I heard that they had improved the menu. Maybe the chef could apprentice at In-Out-Burger to at least learn how to cook fresh made to order fries.

My poor wife became violently ill about six hours after our dinner here and spent all night in the bathroom. Obviously something she ate at Peter B's. I'm just glad that I wasn't the one who picked the restaurant, it would have been all my fault. Service was fine, and the beer was good. We each had a beer flight, and I enjoyed all of them but I wasn't very impressed with any of the food. For appetizers, we had jalapeno bombers which were pretty tasty and the dry cracked ribs. They were deep fried, the meat was tough and the batter tasted like burnt flour. I had a pizza and she had a club sandwich with a salad. The pizza was pretty average, I don't really have any complaints about it but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a good pizza. Wifey didn't comment on her club sandwich, but it's a club sandwich. It's exactly as good as it's ingredients which she never complained about, so I assume it was fine. It must have been the salad dressing or the dipping sauce for the jalapeno bombers that made her sick. Those were the only things she ate all day that I didn't, and she definitely doesn't have the flu.

The host took a while to acknowledge us and finally sat us in proximity of the open front doors. We enjoyed the appetizer and main course and the beer was good as well. We would come back for the beer and hot wings next time.

Our reservation for 4:45 was ready and waiting. Without a reservation, at least on Friday or Sat. night, you won't get in before ten. I tried to make mine a day ahead for 6, and was only offered 4:45 or10. I have had the fish and chips before. Very good, large portion and hot. This time had the Ruben sand. OK, but it was made with deli corned beef. Would be much better with real sliced brisket. Fries and red cabbage slaw excellent. Wife had a build your own pizza with olives, mushrooms and jalapeños. Ate the whole thing and pronounced it great. Beer selection is what it's all about. Had the Arches ale. Almost like a real German lager, but a little milder. Have tried most of their beers and all are very good. Only real complaint is it's hard to get in at normal dinner time (maybe I'll try a res 2 or 3 days ahead next time), but I guess that's good for them. Will definitely be back, but not for the Ruben.

  • Jake H.

Atmosphere and location are nice and it ends there. The food is mediocre at best. Ordered chicken wings as appetizer. Was told they were great by waiter. Some of the worst wings I've ever had. They taste much worse than the frozen Foster Farm wings you can get at the grocery. IMO, they are frozen and simply fried. Clam chowder was below average, wife didn't bother to eat more than half bowl. Kid ordered the roasted turkey leg, which I tried, and it too was dry and flavorless, tho it looked good. Ruben sandwich was ok, that's it. There is little excuse for a Brew Pub to have such poor quality food in this high end location. Get a new chef and new menu. Nothing on that menu tastes like it was made fresh or with skill.

The remodeled bar area and the changed menu are a definite improvement. The beer continues to be terrific -- certainly the best draw of the place. Definitely try the ribs on the Tuesday "theme night" menu -- a half-rack is plenty for one person. The big negative from the recent remodel is the addition of a jukebox. Gone is the background music of classic rock or something suitable for a bar-restaurant, and instead there is the random music of whatever someone happens to punch up in the jukebox. I can't imagine sitting at a table near it when someone selects club music, such as it is, with a heavy bass line. Peter B's is not a club -- why even have those selections? And why leave control of your restaurant atmosphere to the odd selections of random patrons?

We found this place last minute when we got into Monterey and we were glad we did! It has a great atmosphere. Big, high definition TVs all over that had different sports games on. The food was really good, including the appetizers. I am a fan of micro brews and I had two sample beer flights. You get to sample five different beers with each flight. Our waitress was friendly, but she appeared to be having an off night (it happens to all of us). We think she was tired and maybe had too many tables to pay attention to. She took way too long to take our orders and way too long to refill drinks. But when she saw the manager at our table, she sure jumped into action. The manager was extremely friendly! We really enjoyed his service as well as the man who brought us our appetizers and meals. Our bill was much less than we anticipated. I highly recommend this restaurant! I cannot wait to go back.

The chili and garlic fries were awesome! The beer sampler was fun, but ultimately sided on a Long Island. Very good. The chocolate bliss drink was wonderful along with the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Yum! Little slow service in the bar.

GREAT brewery and atmosphere. It is a great getaway from the other bars of Downtown Monterey. They have really improved the bears each and every year, and now it is in a perfect place. My favorites have to be their hoppy but drinkable IPA and their piney Session Ale. Me and my friends come here every week to watch a sports game or play pool. The best part about the place is the service. Asst Manager Brian and bartender Jeff are always attentive and friendly. You dont have to wait long for food or a beer. Im am in the Mug Club which is an INCREDIBLE deal. You pay a yearly fee but get a 25 ounce beer for only $4.50 and get to attend a members night with even cheaper beer and free appetizers. The nachos are the biggest crowd pleaser if you want a good snack to share with friends (or eat yourself).

T.V.s are great. The barmaid girl has an attitude. Could be more friendly and personable with such a job. Free popcorn and the fire pits outside are a nice touch. Some of the wait staff is personable. Probably just a generational thing with all their texting. Some of the food is good some not so good. Overall I say the place is average.

  • John-Michael C.

Its an ok spot.. not bad and its attached to the hotel. The food is solid beer food and the beers arent half bad. The nice thing is that there's also free popcorn. FREE POPCORN! And it's good! Of course if you arent staying at the hotel getting drunk here could be problematic. just saying ;D

Decent food, great location, good beers! Just hosted our wedding after-party here and all of our guests had a great time. The Peter B's staff was very helpful in coordinating our party and helping us put together an appropriate menu for a group our size (30 or so). Everyone loved the food and the pub itself.

Went during happy hour. Deals were good. My husband had the steak and fries. Was not very flavorful. I tried their dollar taco and chili. Taco was a small little guy with nice toppings. Wasn't a fan of the tortilla so wouldn't get it again. Chili was an interesting try as well but didn't like the fatty pieces in it. The fries cheese curds and pickles were tasty. Husband enjoyed his beer. Food value during happy hour. My long island was nothing to brag about. Will go again to try more of the bar food which is probably the smart choice.

I've only came here for happy hour, but I'd say it's the best happy hour in town. However, I am a big beer fan so that's maybe why I like it so much. They have a great selection of beers, and a fair price for them during 4-6:30pm daily. I highly recommend their stout resistance for beer and their calamari for appetizers. Very tasty combo!! Also, just to warn you, the nachos are huge, so be careful how much you food you order if these are on your tab.

Only five star because the food and beer were great.. But our server Jacquely was terrible. I'm a very easy going person takes a lot for me to get frustrated. okay, so i know from my last review i was raving about it... but today, We went back there because we liked it from last time. but today, it was different.... maybe because i did not drink so i actually tasted how horrible the food was. BEER IS AMAZING though!! but the food sucked!!

Pretty darn good! Found out about this place from the YouTube channel NextStop, and this was a must hit on our vacation list! We ordered a few ceviche appetizers, some buffalo wings, and ranch chicken fingers. My fiancé had the beer sampler, and loved the amber and stout. We were able to purchase the growlettes for $15 each, which he was happy about. The ranch chicken strips were tasty, and whatever the Orange-y sauce was went best with it, I think. Our server was a little hard to find at times, but it might've just been busy. Besides that we'll definitely come back next time we're down in Monterey!

Ambiance itself is worth the stars. (During football season). Decided to hit this place after the bartender at the Brit (Britannia arms) was complaining about the mimosa special they had, and how it affected their tips. This place is a decent restaurant. So far the food is solid to decent with no real complaints. Nothing eye popping, but nothing to b and moan about either. The drink specials on Sundays are great... 3 bucks local Beer and a couple of drink Specials. They open up at 0930 and serve "purportedly" decent breakfast. (Haven't made it that early, but haven't heard complaints either). Finally there's a good crowd here. Spectators from every corner of the country, supporting their teams. Bring a crowd and come early because it gets pretty packed.

This restaurant is a great place to dine when you're not in the mood to eat some sea food around the Wharf. Firstly the food is OK, not something I was expecting but it's not that I didnt like it, it was interesting :D. Secondly the service was extremely fast - feels like the fastest service I have ever experienced on my trip in California. But in my honest opinion, this restaurant does not deserve to be a 4-5 star restaurant. But if you are hungry, you should totally come check this place out!

The waitress is an airhead. The calamari divine. No utensils. At least our meal is prompt. Exciting TedTalks in town. Ought not to have left the hotel. Montery at its ordinary apathetic low. At least the fish is fresh. The food runner is gracious. But we will never come back. No loss.

Peter B's may be the only brewery in the Monterey area that serves up taster flights. With this knowledge, I knew there was only one brewery I was interested in checking out during our trip to Monterey. With that, we set out for the Portola Hotel and Spa which this brew pub is located in. You can't go wrong paying $6.50 for a 5 beer flight. Since it was our anniversary, you know my babygirl ordered me TWO! While I did terrible at figuring out which beer I was tasting, there wasn't a bad brew among the bunch. That's not to say it was amazing, either. Just decent beer, a chill atmosphere, and friendly staff. The Stout Resistance is an ironically not so stout, stout that is smooth and pleasant. They have several IPAs on tap that were pretty decent as well. Again, there aren't any spectacular beers here, but their overall beerfolio is well rounded. I settled on getting the Raspberry Wheat to fill the growler since it's rare that my babygirl will actually like a beer herself. Heck, she stole my whole sampler after taking a small sip. I'm not normally a fruity wheat beer fan, but Peter B puts such a subtle hint that it goes down quite smoothly. Speaking of growler... My honey surprised me by getting me the coolest growler ever! She got me the Hydro Flask that I've been wanting for awhile now. Peter B's had an excellent price with a free fill and she jumped on it. This bad boy will keep your beer cold for hours without refrigeration. I'm already picturing myself sipping a half gallon of beer as we cook by the campfire this summer. They often have a Travelzoo deal. If you see one and you're not V3gan, you should snatch it up. When we revisit this area, Peter B's will be the only beer stop in town unless somebody else steps up their sampler tray game.

Came in looking to try some beers and was pleasantly surprised at the variety of beers they make here. Jesse and Jacqueline helped us decide on what to have and everything was perfect. The beers were tasty and the food was amazing. Even the portion sizes for the amount paid is really good. Great little micro brewery right in the center of Monterey! Definitely will come back.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here last night. We purchased a groupon and our first experience here was great! The appetizer were delicious and came out faster than expected. I had the steak and fries and it was the best steak I'd had at a restaurant. The boyfriend had the chipotle chicken sandwich and he loved it. The beer flights were great we love having a little taste of each beer. I also want to say thanks to our waiter Ethan G. he was extremely friendly and made sure we were enjoying ourself. The whole staff seem friendly and attentive. We will definitely return and will recommended this place to our friends.

Wow! Brew grub is staying up with fine, craft beer - healthy, tasty food options with creative twists. All of which were featured here at Peter B's. We enjoyed a delicious flight of their carefully brewed and served beers (all came with business cards of description, with alcohol levels and IBUs). Shared two appetizers of cod ceviche (huge chunks with custom chips) and a lovely spinach, crab dip. Entrees were fish tacos (see pic) and a beautiful Reuben. Tacos came with roasted corn, from the cob (not canned or frozen). Service was provided by Amelia, who was helpful, responsive, knowledgeable without being intrusive. All was excellent - will definitely be back! Thanks Travelzoo and Peter B!

Peter B's, at least for one night, made a beer drinker outta me! I always joke that if I could only enjoy a beer, I would be the coolest girl in town. :) So thanks Peter B for at least one night, thanks to your amazing 5-beer flight for $6.50, giving me the opportunity to be a cool chick. I stole sips of all 5 beers purchased by the friend I dined with, and I did enjoy them! Should I ever succumb to beer's wiles, I will definitely be a pale ale girl. No limitations on what beers you can choose to personalize your flight - if they sell it, you can sip it! This just might be the best deal in town, and in a hotel restaurant of all unexpected places! I enjoyed a couple glasses of pinot noir with my vacation-y dinner of wings and celery, and their bar food was very tasty! Their menu is loaded lots of well-priced options, and the vibe inside is Sports Bar Casual. Even on a Saturday night, we were invited to relax and be leisurely while we enjoyed our goodies, and their awesome attitude was clear over the couple hours we spent there, as there wasn't an empty seat in the house! I can't wait to bring my beer-loving BF here on our next trip to Monterey - if you are a fan of the suds and want to grab affordable tasty food, run - do not walk- to Peter B's!

my good neighbor works here, and a friend (yes, i have one) suggested that we try the beer. i advised my fine friend that the beer better be good, because i only get to have 4 drinks per year. the very young staff and a couple of my customers warmly welcomed us. my friend ordered the "inclusion", and i asked our server - a singer in a couple of rock bands - for a chocolate beer. it was hard to hear in there, but i tried not to shout. she knew what i was looking for, and presented a "stout". the excellent liquid refreshment was too much for us to finish. it came in 16 ounce glasses. we ordered superb sweet potato fries and some succulent sausages so that were not knocked on our... peter b's is often crowded and loud. if someone other than my fine friend had asked me to meet there, i might have passed. we had a blast. the visit will not be our last.

Another good experience. Lunch in the bar area today was enjoyable. We had the seafood pasta and the roasted veggie sandwich with fries. The food, with minor tweaks, could be five stars. Good service, plus a choice of sporting events to watch. The flavor of the pasta was spot on, but it was a bit overcooked, and the sauce a bit watery. Nice quantity and variety of seafood for $14. Good sandwich, though I'd add some seasoning. Fries were very tasty but could have been a bit hotter.

Loved the chili! You should definately order the beer flight and get a taste of a couple of their own beers. Myself, I preferred the Laguna IPA and the Stout. The service is excellent even on a NBA finals evening.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary Anniversary staying at the Portola Plaza, we weren't disappointed! We decided to sit at the bar top instead of at an actual table and personally I say we received more personal service. Our bartender, Jesus, made generous beer and entree suggestions. We ended up with beer flights a set of 5 4oz beer tasters, fried Pickles and hot wings for appetizer. For dinner my husband has the Portola burger w/ fries and I had the veggie sandwich w/ garlic fries. Overall good was great, we had not a single complaint! We also had a groupon deal that we used and it was a steal for all the food and drinks we got.

I was so happy to come back Monterey and decided to stop by at Monterey's original craft brewery Peter Bs! The staff was great! I sat at the bar, and Robert the bartender was magnificent he told me everything about the new beer that was recently released the 40 acre pale ale! It was delicious and a great suggestion from Robert the bartender. Nicole the restaurant supervisor brought out my food and it was delicious I had the buffalo wings absolutely my favorite and a must try at Peter bs! Congrats on the fine beer and food! I'll be sure to stop by again!

I went to Peter B's on a Sunday while my wife was attending a weekend class at nearby MIIS. I needed a place to "setup shop" for the day while I did some work, and was hoping to find a location with beer, food, and a TV to watch the 49ers game. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and went the extra mile to get me a table near an outlet for my laptop. This initial effort is what earns them the extra star from our earlier review. This happened over a month ago now, so I won't try to piece-together a review of the food and drink that I had; however, I ordered exclusively off the Sunday Football happy hour menu, so I don't think it would be a proper reflection of their standard offerings anyway.

Called at 10:30 am to make a reservation for the big NCAA game, showed up before tipoff and they didn't have the reservation. Organized a big party to show up - when I showed up and they couldn't find my reservation, they offered to put me on the wait list. I normally am a big fan of this place, but based on my experience tonight, I wouldn't recommend organizing an event here if there is a chance they will be unable to keep the reservation.

Nice place, the service wasn't bad. Lots of tvs to watch the game. The food was bland. The Sausages were deep fried and over cooked, not grilled and juicy. The mustard was also very dry and bland. Mediocre at best. Beer was good though.

Love this place! Great food and usually the service is awesome! Last night wasn't so awesome. Poor service from our girl server last night. We sat outside and she totally forgot about us. Never smiled, never went up to our table when we got served and kept ignoring us. The hostess and busser were a lot more friendlier. We will come back but hopefully the server that served us makes a better effort serving others. If you don't want to be a server don't work there! I was a bartender for years and I get a percentage of your tip and if you're screwing up... You're definitely not gonna be on my team. You're awesome Peter Bs... But unfortunately one definitely let you down last night.

I love Peter B's. It's quickly become "our bar" after moving here and hopping around to find the right fit. The staff and regulars make it worth going by it self... The beer is AWESOME and I'm a craft beer snob. Their food is better than average for bar food... Try the chili, it's amazing. I wish they had some more healthy options but I also know frequenting a sports bar that I shouldn't expect that either. We tried other bars to watch our games - the boy and I are both avid sports fans and the vibe was just lacking everywhere else (except going to Duffy's to watch my Packers play!). Our go-to's are: Laguna IPA, Citra IPA for beers, the nachos or buffalo chili for starters, the boy liked the homemade sausages, we haven't had too many of their entrees yet as we're both usually too caught up in watching our games. My only request would be a kick ass kale salad... maybe please? :)

Dog friendly out on the patio :) Though the patio is a bit aged and not the cleanest. They have a happy hour daily, I think 4 to 6PM so that's likely more worth it than going just for drinks outside that time frame. My hubby and I each ordered a beer, I believe all they have are their own brews - they were okay - not the best I've had but decent. The prices were reasonable, but again you save even more during Happy Hour. I think if the patio area was a bit cleaner - and had more perhaps dog friendly things - like water bowls - I did not see a single one, and we were one of 5 with dogs on the patio - I would have rated it higher. Plus the food did seem pricey (non-happy hour - we missed it by an hour). But we'd go back - it's shaded, so on a hot day - it's nice :)

I know this and all the other poor posts don't matter to management. It's a busy place that brings in enough business that a couple of negative comments won't matter to the bottom line. But that's just a sad perception when someone can be seriously injured by the cause of someone not doing their job correctly. Not one, but TWO glasses were cracked and were served to the same person! You'd think that someone would check them while pouring and serving. Just not a pleasant experience overall. Food was decent, but it all goes south with something like TWO cracked glasses being served to you.

Food was piping hot! Beer was good. The cobb salad was substantial and the pizza delicious. The island rum punch was delicious and strong. Service was very friendly and fast. Lots of tv's kept our two year old entertained.

Had a great time. The tacos were great, although could use hotter salsa. Always loved the Calamari. Taco Thursday was great. Good selection of beers to choose from. Thanks goes out to our server Jesse for being so attentive to our needs.

I went there at day time. The atmosphere is awesome, beer selection (tried a few) is broad and premium. Service is great but food (the Turkey sandwich I had) could hardly by worse. Don't go there for food..

Well the food was pretty poor quality and the beers were lack luster. I had the legend of Laguna ipa. Nothing to write home about. Others in my group had the blonde, the rye pale and some other ipa. Tasted like mass produced swill with no heart. Would not come back here. Our server was nice enough at least so that's what the star is for

Even after reading some of the reviews, I thought Peter's wasn't going to be that good. I was wrong. We found a groupon deal online and decided to give it a shot. The pictures I saw online didn't really look that great, but when we arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The deal we got from Groupon was well worth it. It included two beer flights, two appetizers and two entrées. Our server was Jessica and we were very happy with the service she provided. My girlfriend isn't a big beer drinker, so we were worried that they wouldn't let us exchange for something else. We explained our situation and without hesitation Jessica let my girlfriend get something else. She was very attentive and always came to the table with a smile on her face. We ordered the cod ceviche and calamari for appetizers. Both were very good. For our main course, we had the seafood linguini and the fish and chips. I had a taste of the linguini and enjoyed it. The fish and chips was good too. I definitely recommend Peter B's Brewpub.

Oh Peter. Had lunch here and ate outside on one of the fire tables. Fire tables were a bad idea for a meal because there's not enough room to eat but that was our fault. We ordered chicken strips, bbq pizza, Hawaiin pizza and sweet potato fries. Sweet potato fries were the only redeeming part of the meal. The rest was pretty blah. The chicken strips were horrible. They reminded me of a small version of chicken fried steak. It was smashed and fried and very dry. Stick with the beers here.

Tried their beer for the first time at the Monterey Beer Festival this year (2014) and decided that we'd have to visit their restaurant sometime. Really, really enjoyed the food and the beer. On the food side, we had the pretzel, the sausage plate, and the salmon nicoise salad - all were excellent. On the beer side, we had a sample of each of there beers (there must have been 10 or so), and all were great; not a bad one in the bunch. Great flavors and carbonation levels, and it was nice to taste a beers with fruit notes like their raspberry wheat where just the right about of fruit flavors came through. For my palette, anyway. My favorite was the Belgian brown ale, but I could have a glass of any of them and been happy.

This spot was just OK. We came here for happy hour and beers since I love beer but the food was just meh. However, they have a lot of selections when it comes to beer so if you're a fan like I am, come and drink but bypass the food. The food we got was all overly fried and not so tasty. While a cool novelty, the popcorn in the popcorn machine was stale :(

Came at 1205 noon order beer and French fries and calamari. French fries came after a 40 min wait. Asked for my bill twice, and never brought our calamari. After the guy asked about our service and we told him he said thanks. No sorry, no try to fix it.

Small, and greasy food. TERRIBLE service but good beer. Waited 10 minutes on a quiet afternoon for a beer, while the staff stood around watching TV. They Slopped the beer all over the table with no apology and no coaster, calamari was served without lemon, and the bill was slammed down before they asked me if I was finished....

Got seated right away, friendly waiter, took our orders promptly, then kinda went downhill after that. Spent a good amount of time tracking down the waiter for drinks, water, following up on order and getting the bill. They forgot one of our orders, when it finally came it was cold, like it's been sitting out for 20 mins. 3 stars coz the rest of our food was ok. Stick with the fried food - onion rings, sweet potato fries, etc.

We had been looking forward to trying Peter B's - especially interested in the beer flight (five 4-ounce pours of whatever beers you wanted to try) - so we went down about 4 pm on Labor Day afternoon, figuring maybe all the tourists had gone home. It was very busy outside when we arrived, and the bar was crowded and quite noisy, so we asked to sit inside at a booth. I was kind of surprised, because according to the website, they open at 4 pm Monday through Thursday - they must have opened early this particular Monday due to the holiday. Our server came soon enough, and we ordered the beer flight, as well as some eats - the calamari appetizer, a hot wings appetizer, I got the Cobb salad, and husband got the fish and chips. We went through the beer flight and decided which beers we'd order in a full glass. We waited a while before the server finally came back and took the beer orders. A few minutes later, the busser came out with food - but took them to the table next to us! I didn't notice this, because it was behind me, but my husband said the busser set the dishes down and the people looked at them and said this was NOT what they had ordered. So the busser picked up the plates again and came to us (the only other table in the dining room at that time and asked if it was what we had ordered? Yes it was - the main dishes, not the appetizers! So we looked at each other like, hmmm, wonder if we'll even GET appetizers? Well, they did come out about 5 minutes later. Grrrr. The calamari was just OK, although I liked the dipping sauce. The wings were very good, although they were breaded, which I don't prefer - naked wings, deep-fried and sauced, now THAT is hot wings to me. The Cobb salad was OK, it had a pile of chopped Iceberg lettuce underneath the goodies, which were in good enough quantities to make me happy - but I had asked for both the balsamic and the bleu cheese dressings, and only got the balsamic. Husband liked his fish and chips well enough. The server never checked back to see if we needed anything else, and evntually he brought the check, which we paid promptly and left. We thought we might give it another try sometime, but after following that up with a trip to the Cannery Row Brewing Company a few days later (which was really good) - I doubt we'll hit up Peter B's again. Too bad - I do like that they brew their own beers there, but the juice just really wasn't worth the squeeze. It wasn't AWFUL - it just wasn't all that great either.

Was there on Saturday afternoon, around 2pm. Sat at the bar, close to the server's window where they p/u bar orders. Some party ordered multiple beer flights, and although the bartender had it well under control, pretty obvious the server who was trying to arrange the flight selections on his tray, was being challenged. To my amusement, he was writing down the makeup of the beers, trying to keep track, presumably so he could present them knowingly to his customers. Then to my horror, he tasted one of the flights apparently trying to verify which one it was, and put it back on his tray. Not so good. I like this place, but obviously that behavior was out of line. I'll keep coming back, just make sure if I order a flight, it's done in front of the bartender who clearly knows what he's doing, and not away from the bar, relying on the server to keep the beer choices in order. But I do like this place. The above specific noted behavior, however, no excuse. The amber I ordered, excellent.

Good food but not-so-good service. Will NEVER go back there again. Takes forever to get water & your food. An excuse for each problem & if you go in with a gift certificate, spend every penny or be prepared to order a lot of desserts to go.

I must say the new changes to peter bs have been great, love the new digs. The menu has definitely been going in the right direction, the nachos were spot on the beer was delicious, only thing better than the food and beer was the very attentive service, Jessica knew what we needed and was always one step ahead!!!

My boyfriend and I ate here and liked it. I had the veggie burger with mushrooms and squash on a wheat bun. For a side, I had fruit. It was so filling that I could not eat it all! This is truly one of the best veggie burgers that I ever have eaten. Absolutely, gourmet and of course, healthy. My boyfriend had the steak salad and a glass of their pumpkin ale. He enjoyed his meal as well. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. We hope to come back again sometime. I only gave it one less star because we were celebrating the anniversary of the day we first met and sitting across from us was a rowdy noisy group of people who appeared to be heavily drunk. It somewhat ruined our intimate moment. Pros: -great tasting food with generous proportions -very friendly and helpful service Cons: -can get rowdy here with people getting drunk

We came here twice the last weekend we were in Monterey because we liked it so much. We went to Monterey this weekend for Moto GP with a group and really talked the place up - unfortunately. It was pretty disappointing. We were seated very fast (I made a reservation), so that was good, but it went downhill from there. Some of our party are beer drinkers, and they loved the stout, but I'm a wine drinker. They used to have a very nice wine list, but the server said they scrapped it last week. Now they only offer the house wines, and if I remember correctly, there's only one white and one red, maybe one other, but they are all Estancia. Estancia isn't bad wine at all, but I like to have options, and even a five-list wine menu of local wines would be good. Just something other than Cab as the red wine option. The service was very lacking and the food was, as one of our party described it, "Meh." Our server even forgot my mom's main dish! We all had to sit around for a LONG time waiting to have our bills taken care of. My boyfriend finally had enough and took his up to the front after everyone else's was rang up (but not his). We were pretty embarrassed to tell our friends such great things and have such a sub-par experience.

DELICIOUS! You get tons of food and not bad pricing either. Next time I would ask for appetizers to done before our entrees were brought out because they came out only minutes apart and we couldn't really enjoy our appetizers. Everything we had was great - fried artichokes, cheese curds, pulled pork sandwich, and seafood linguine. We also had the beer flights. We will be back next time we're in Monterey!

Four of us stopped in last night for drinks. It was a mixed crowd, convention-goers and locals alike. A couple of our group had beer (blonde ale and amber ale, both very good @ $5.50 per pint), I had a cocktail ($8) and our DD drank seltzer and cran on the house. Service was friendly and helpful, explaining beers (look into the cask offerings at $3, very interesting) and there's even a "bartender's choice" cocktail or shot offered at a discounted price. Lots of TVs to watch sports, plenty of bar seating to go around, and a great patio to enjoy on a beautiful afternoon. Relaxed crowd, and some true beer fans that came in with big bottles for beer take-out orders! We didn't try any food but saw a gal tearing into some nachos that looked and smelled pretty spectacular! *Special thank you to the management for serving free non-alcoholic drinks to our designated driver. These locals won't soon forget that nice touch.*

The first time my husband and I went here we had a great experience! Awesome and attentive server and really good food! The fried calamari was great! We sat out front by a fire pit which we both really enjoyed. The second time my friend and I met for happy hour and planned to stay for dinner. We sat outside and it was pretty busy, but it looked like they were well staffed. The happy hour prices are really good, but the food quality just wasn't the same. Our calamari came out luke warm and tough and the fries tasted like they had been cooked earlier in the day. Worst of all was our service! She was absolutely terrible! I had to wait at least 15 min for my first drink to come and then she never even came back to ask if we needed anything else. We had to track her down and ask for the bill. We wanted to have dinner, but decided to go somewhere else because of how bad the service was. I am willing to give it one more chance. I just really hope we don't get the same waitress again.

Peter B's is a great place to grab a beer along with some apps. Try the wing man it was my fav! The beer is great, my two favorites are the raspberry wheat and the IPA. Peter bs is my choice to watch the game and there are plenty of TVs everywhere you look. Service is great, my bartender Brian did a way above average job. I came solo and he made sure my mug was full and I didn't look like the lonely guy at the bar. Great conversations about sports and knowledge of the surrounding area. He went out of his way to tell me about all the beers and the story of the brewery. Being a sommelier has helped me appreciate service, and I feel that this employee was top notch! Great beer fun people it's a must try in Monterey. Keep up the great work!

Bought a groupon for this place & it was totally worth it! The food was pretty good. My bf & I both ordered burgers & our groupon came with 5 beer samplers. Environment was fun & loud. San Jose Sharks were playing at the time. :) Service was great! I would recommend it for a fun night out.

Nice place with pool tables, sports, and free popcorn. They also have nice outdoor firepits (gas) for cooler nights. The beer is great, but don't bother with the food. The appetizers are not good at all. Service is nice as well; we particularly liked Edgardo who helped us with the firepits and chatted with us while he got the fires going. Go for happy hour, have a few cocktails, and eat somewhere else.

Service was friendly but the food is definitely pub level, a little on the heavy side and leaning towards lots of fried items. Beer selection was good. Ok for a spot to hoist a few with friends, but don't go for the food.

Good spot to hang out and watch some sports on TV. Burgers are decent; tastes fresh but overdone and dry. Dry cooked ribs are crap. Indelible deep fried pieces of baby back ribs. Beer was very good. Fresh, tasty, drinkable IPA in a solid sized pour. Bottom line, go for the beer.

Wound up here for lunch on Sunday since it was close to My Museum (a children's museum we were going to). They have a million TV's and the DirecTV season pass so everyone (patrons and employees) were all in their respective football garb and you could tell who people were rooting for based on where they were sitting in the restaurant. We were the lone 49er watchers in the restaurant....hubby assured me they were showing it in the bar and there were more fans but man what a pitiful game. Poor niners....but I digress. The food was better than expected. My little one loved her pirate mac n cheese and my steak salad was pretty good. Our waitress was very nice and they brought out ice cream and a cookie with a candle in it for my daughter's 5th birthday. I did think it was really cool that they brought an extra one for our 3 year old so she didn't feel left out. Not a bad place, for a brewpb/

This place is pretty much like Applebees, in my book. I came with a Travelzoo voucher on a night that the 49ers were playing, so it was pretty loud in here. My quesadilla was huge but I couldn't eat most of it. I was already kinda full plus it was more moist than I cared for. Club sandwiches were ok. The menu isn't really that extensive so there wasn't much to choose from, but we picked the club sandwiches since we could take it back to our hotel easily for breakfast the next day since were were already so full. Hubs had to drink all of our beer tasters since I can't really stand beer anymore. Seems more of a local hangout...they can have it.

It had been a few years since my last visit, and all i can say is the beer has definitely improved. I ordered a beer sampler and every single one of them had something unique and special about them. My favorites were the I Spy Rye and IPA. Personally i thought the wheat was too hoppy and the smoked porter...interesting and worth trying. Service was good with tv's all surrounding the bar area to watch the game. Will definitely go back for brewskis and will have to give the food a try the next round.

My college friend used to work here, so we'd stop in for Happy Hour every few weeks. The Happy Hour has some great deals, so if you're in the area before 7pm, stop in. Otherwise, the regular menu is very good. My boyfriend, our 2 friends, and their pug ate out on their heated patio the other night. We were the only ones out there, so the ambiance was nice, and the heat lamps were great! It gets chilly at night and the heat lamps had us sitting there without our coats on. We started with the green tomatillo salsa and I [heart] Artichokes apps. The chips and salsa had good flavor, while the artichokes were luke warm. They were still a good choice with a thick spiced up/almost BBQy batter, but I wish they'd been a bit warmer. For entrees, my boyfriend got a blue cheese burger and garlic fries. The garlic fries were super flavorful, but a tad greasy, so he didn't finish them. I got the Highway 1 burger with a turkey patty and onion rings. Everything about this plate of food was terrific. The onion rings were plentiful, large, and had the best dipping sauce. Our friends got the club sandwich w/ rings and the veggie burger w/ sweet fries. Next time, I'll try that veggie burger because it was covered with fresh grilled veggies and looked soo good. We also all got a round of beer. Peter Bs has some fine beers, but avoid the 'flavored' ones...raspberry and peach, etc. It's just added in and weird. The stout they offer is more like a porter, so if you're a porter fan, give it a whirl.

Great place! I heard about this place on the radio and tries it out and was very impressed! The garlic fire were so good I could not stop eating them! I would come back again...

We stayed at the Portola Hotel & Spa. We went to Peter B's for lunch. We sat in the bar to watch the baseball game. The service here was horrible. We were seated & given menus. We ordered our drinks a few minutes later but it took 5+ minutes to get the drinks. The waitress disappeared. Someone else came over to see if we had been helped & finally our drinks appeared. The appetizers were ordered were great. The service was slow. It also took awhile to get the check. Perhaps this was an off day but the service needs some work.

I would have rated higher but when I order a salad I do not expect to cut the lettuce myself. I ordered the steak salad and it's whole leaves of lettuce tossed in dressing. I spent more time on cutting than actual eating. The meat was marinated really well but working for my food was such a disappointment. Beer was pretty good but we probably won't be back just because my experience was not good. But the server definitely was polite and quick.

I write this with heavy heart because I'm a regular here. I like the beer at Peter B's quite a lot and being able to sit outside. Service takes a little longer than normal because it's a big place. But what really bothers me is that they always forget to bring forks/napkin when you order food. Really. I've been going there for years and I've just about had it with this. The servers don't seem to understand the basic necessities of eating. It didn't happen just once or twice, it's standard practice. The only reason I return is for the beer.

Ok I admit it...I was a snob. Being locals we bypassed this place for the past year because it was, I felt, associated with a hotel and the tourist crowd. We ended up there during a chill Sunday afternoon after taking in the car show in the Custom House Plaza, first asking for a menu to check the offerings and then to ask the hostess about the soup du jour. She went out of her way to find out after admitting she didn't know - her can do attitude, and the thought of potato basil soup and raw veggies for an appetizer got me sitting down (I like to think I'm easy to please) while the spouse was easy pickings with the brew offerings. So the story: ENVIRONMENT: Large interior that was clean and well lit with nooks and crannies, pool table, free popcorn from centrally located machine and multiple televisions with the football game playing. We chose to be seated on the well appointed patio under the heat lamp by the water wall with a nice view all around. Would have sat inside had there been European football playing (go Manchester United!!) but maybe next time? Bathroom at the front clean and spacious. The ambiance was nice on the patio, although the music was a bit too hip hoppy but hey, we were just at an old car show...what can I say? FOOD: Garlic and ale soaked chicken sandwich with avocado and a side of coleslaw - nicely done per the spouse; appetizer sampler platter (artichokes, wings, cheese bites, calamari, and quesadillas with sauces), potato basil soup, raw vegetable appetizer, one Imperial Stout 16 oz and one Cask Ale 16 oz. Big Reveal: we expected the brews to be good but not the food. It truly was the best coleslaw ever! And the potato-basil soup....perfect! Seriously. Additionally, the appetizers were not over soaked in grease - the artichokes actual artichokes and the calamari actually calamari (what a concept right?) with sauces that were tangy and complimentary to the foods. I also cannot say enough about the raw vegetables served: pepper strips, carrots, cucumbers, tomato, along with Kalamata olives (pitted) and sweet gerkins - very nicely plated and presented. Mid way through we added the Laguna IPA (award winning) and a double Belgian brews - both 16 oz. BEVERAGE: Excellent brew - all four ordered - and the spouse actually left with a "growler" of Double Belgian. We finished with a Long Island Iced Tea (perfect dessert to my way of thinking) setting us up for the longish walk home along the bay to PG. SERVICE: Thank you Lirio! You were attentive and informed. You were engaging and knew when to approach and when to back off - something found in all good servers. Ms Hostess (your name I forgot to get)...without your attention we would have done a Dionne Warwick and "walked on by" so thank you as well. And to the manager Franco (if I buggered your name sorry - you gave us your card after stopping by and darn if it didn't drop out of the backpack while we were placing the growler in there halfway home when the spouses fingers began to ache from the weight) it was nice that you stopped by to chat and exemplified how owners and managers should behave. I was also pleased to hear of upcoming dinner pairing events and plans for a better patio experience (fire pit/bench seats). PRICES: (Appx as I lost the darn receipt too): 4 -16 oz beers, 1 - veggie appetizer, 1 - sampler platter (large), 1- sandwich with slaw, 1 - very large bowl of soup, 1- long iced tea = 61.00. This was a total surprise given what we paid at Fandango in PG the night before (see previous review). OVERALL: Wow was I wrong. With excellent food and brew, attentive service and affordable prices...I was way wrong. We'll be back.

It has been seven years since I went to Peter B's - and since I was asked to join a very hot guy last night for a glass of wine, I accepted the invitation and went over. We were greeted promptly and shown to our booth. So...booths....for a germaphobe such as myself for some reason booths (esp. vinyl covered ones) totally gross me out. I think it is usually because they are never cleaned after each party leaves and so tend to be sticky and/or in ill repair. Our table and the whole place was really clean. I was pleased. Mariana was our server - she was absolutely delightful. The service was really sincere. It was Happy Hour and I was so very, very happy to be sitting with my babe in a cozy booth - we ordered a glass of Estancia Chardonnay (me) and a beer (him). We both were chuffed. Tortilla chips and tomatillo Salsa was next - SPICY and nicely cut chips. Chicken wings for him - LOVELY!! You actually get more of the drumsticks and not the wings - nice, plump wings with an excellent hot wing sauce. Two dipping sauces and celery. I forgot how yummy these were. For me - the Sanddabs. This was the only fish option on the menu and then Mariana and I had to make my meal carb and gluten free. I nixed the potatoes and off we were. The Sanddabs I received put all other Sanddabs to shame. Firstly, for someone who eats fish all the time, as I am sure you'll agree - Sanddabs are just a cheap fish which I overlook most of the time. Mine, at Peter B's were just lightly dusted and perfectly prepared - moist without being chewy or tough. So much better than what I had at the Sandbar. Nice veggies too. They were cold but that was quickly rectified with a new plate of steaming hot veggies. All in all - such a pleasant experience.

we went on a nice long bike ride up and down the coast in monterey and were quite hungry when we finished. peter b's was right next door to the bike rental store so it made a logical choice. i didn't have any of their brewed beers, but a sip of my dad's IPA told me that it was definitely the best part about this place. we got the jalapeno sweet potato fries and steamed artichokes to start, which were fine - most of the garlic and jalapeno bits had fallen off the fries, so we had to do a little maneuvering to get the full effect of the flavor profile. i got the grilled fish tacos, one of my favorite things to find on any menu! they were just OK - not super flavorful, but cooked well enough and accompanied by a pretty tasty apple relish/slaw. the bar got REALLY busy as we enjoyed our lunch/dinner (march madness games were about to come on), so our server got a little distracted, but it wasn't too bad. nothing to rave about, but definitely one of the better choices in montery from the places we passed during our exploration.

My boyfriend and I came here after 10p on a weeknight. Service was so-so. We grabbed a seat in the bar area at one of the tables and after several minutes of waiting almost decided to either leave or go sit directly at the bar..,Finally a waiter approached in the midst of our contemplation. We ordered the mozzarella balls which are very good! They come with a creamy based dip. The coating is different than the normal on these little balls of deliciousness. Recommended... I ordered the cobb salad which is the typical and includes avocado, bacon, egg, cheese, chicken. Kevan ordered the chicken sandwich. His chicken sandwich came on wheat ciabatta. We both liked our food and would come back for more quick american style grub! Bottom line: not great with the service but good for a drink and some bites...

Peter B's Brewpub can suck it!! I went here and was seated pretty quick. All i wanted was one beer. I am a beer brewer myself so I like to try all the brews. Some guy took our order of two beers then disappeared. Then some girl came up to take our order and we told her that the guy over there already helped us. She got pissy and butt-hurt and stormed off. We sat there for a long time watching the guy who took our order do nothing. We finally just had to walk out because we were apparently no longer being served. Is it the tattoos? Is it our appearance? Who knows. I do know we are nice and humble everywhere we go. What's the deal Peter B's Brewsuck? On the plus side we got a free coaster out of the deal. It doesn't work very well for us either. Brew yourself out of business.....fast. The world will be better off for it.

Great!! They actually brew their own beer, what a novelty for a brewery!! We had two flights and the waiter, Rafael, was great. He explained the brewery, their new brewmaster, how fast some of the brews were selling out. He really had a sense of pride in his employer, very refreshing. We had the appetizer sampler, very good, basic bar food, which we had actually ordered dinner after reading the reviews.

Peter B's has been the location of many occasions: birthdays, playoffs, graduation, Halloween, and well you get it...we got to Peter B's a lot. Happy Hour appetizers and Half Off Wednesdays are worth it. Was introduced to my first Hefeweizen here the year I turned 21 :) Things we like: - Ale Chicken Sandwich - Sliders (I love all 3) - Calamari - Root Beer - GARLIC FRIES

Stopped at Peter B's Brewery between meetings today for a quick lunch. I was shooting for a healthy meal, and this menu had very few healthy choices. I ended up getting the grilled fish tacos. The tacos were mahi mahi with some cabbage. A side of black beans and Spanish rice accompanied by some guac and sour cream. Everything was bland and "just ok." However, it IS a great place to grab a homemade brew and catch a game. We watched the Texas vs Alabama BCS Championship Game there. Overall - a 2.5 star dining experience, but a 4 star sports bar.

Hard to know where to begin with the accolades! The service, the beer selection!, the food, the atmosphere, all SUPERB - literally as good as it gets. We were bowled away by the lovely staff, from hostess to wait persons, bus person, and other staff who just stopped by to see if all was well and chat a bit. A+++ customer service, all too rare these days. The beer tasting "flights" were a lot of fun. Lovely Stacie even brought two MORE beers to try, "on the house" which turned out to be my favorites because they had an unexpected tangy cider flavor which I loved. They have lots of large TVs to see every imaginable game. Our jaws literally dropped and stayed that way when the nachos (appetizer) arrived. Jaw-droppingly HUUUUUUUGE does not even begin to describe it. SO delicious and satisfying - as good as it was enormous. Mountains of crispy chips, tons of cheese, pork (other meat options available), olives, jalapenos, guacamole, you name it, it was DELISH. We'll be going back SOON, even if "just" for beer and nachos. It was a meal for two, and then some. Their freshly made pizza was amazing too, though we brought most home because the nachos were so filling. There's much to love about Peter B's, but above all, the amazing staff is such a stand-out. It's nearly an hour drive for us, and worth every minute. Thanks, wonderful folks at Peter B's. You should be very proud of your top-notch brewery. We'll be back ASAP!!

I enjoyed the Zombie. Very tasty drink. Food was overly priced and the quality wasn't that great. Our server was not good at all. We would order something, like a drink, and he would disappear forever. Then we would see hit just standing around talking to the other servers. He should've at least came to our table to let us know that it was going to take a while; keepus informed, that is his job afterall. At least there was free popcorn...

Staff sucked, took forever to bring me the single beer I ordered. That said they're home brewed beer was pretty delicious. Strong, but enjoyable. I wouldn't go back, but if you're staying at the hotel next door this isn't a terrible place to stop a get a drink.

The time finally came. I went to Peter B's. No mistake... I was actually out for the night anticipating a broad judgmental night of highs and lows on the service/beer/sticky table spectrum. After all it is a sports bar, right? I was pleasantly surprised by a few things here...and just surprised by a few more.... Walked right in - to a full house- and the host person was awesome enough to clean a table for us immediately. Our server, Jessica, was fantastic. I didn't wait for a drink...ever. Poison for the night was a gin and tonic...which was a little off on the ratio of tonic to gin. I'm not sure how he knew, but the manager for the night, Franco, came right over and made a very smooth adjustment to my drink- making it the best gin and tonic I have had in awhile. He did this twice- maybe he was once a bartender, maybe he drinks a lot of gin...I don't know. I enjoyed the laid back environment. The bartender, Jeff, was friendly. The house made beer (it is a brewery) is interesting. I highly suggest doing a sampler. What I do know is that I will be back. Probably for the friendly faces and the free popcorn machine (yep- you heard me). What I will not be back for is the mean face some guy by the door gives you when you - graciously- take a handful of the hostess' mints and the "no booze after 10:30" (it was a Thursday tho to be fair) rule. Considering those where the only 2 things that I disliked, it is a pretty good joint. Final Verdict: House made Beer + good service + free popcorn + pool table + great location = the place to be for your sports bar needs.

Went here for dinner and drinks last night. Nachos were good and pizza was just ok. The cheese on the pizza was really runny. Beers were ok, had the wheat beer they brewed there. They are open late so that's cool.

This is a wonderful informal pub where you can really enjoy a totally unhealthy meal with friends and family. Kids are comfortable here too, thanks to the general noise and commotion, but staff are friendly, food is tasty and the beer is great. Don't come here for intimate conversations - not going to happen, but for a fun time it's great. Fills up quickly at night, so getting there earlier rather than later means no wait.

Peter B's is the only micro brewery in Monterey so while I was in town, I had to stop by. I ordered the artichoke hearts appetizer, Pit Boss burger and an IPA. The IPA was very good. Everybody I was with really enjoyed their brews so I will give the Brew master 5 stars! The artichoke hearts appetizer was incredible. They are fried in a spicy batter that put them in a whole other category from other deep fried artichoke hearts I have had. The Pit Boss Burger was also incredibly good. My only complaint about my experience at Peter B's was how my burger was prepared. I ordered medium well and it came back well done. Since the burger is half pound of meat, kind of made me feel like I was eating a brick at times. Too dry for my taste. Other than the dryness, the burger was very good with the aged cheddar and grilled red onions.

I've figured it out: if you want good service, don't sit in the bar. Since writing my last lackluster review of Peter B's, I've been back twice and did something completely different-- I sat in the dining room. Both of my experiences on these occasions were fantastic. Great service was paired with good food (their tortilla soup should not be missed) and the beer sampler made for lovely experiences. I don't want to bash Peter B's any more than I already have... I want to like it. Now I've figured out how to make that happen.

When on the Peninsula I favor the Portola Plaza hotel and I always look forward to a pit stop or three at this place as well. Clean, good service (not great), food is fine... Good beer selection and full bar. Feels like it belongs in the suburbs but it's a pleasant addition on a peninsula where the nightlife is almost always underwhelming.

Dined 10/21/2012. Located in the bay side of the Portola Hotel at Calle Principal & Del Monte. Good beer, food okay, kind of loud. It was worth a stop, and we had a pleasant meal, but unexceptional, kind of like Outback or Beef O'Brady's. A bit on the expensive side, but it's in a pricey hotel in pricey Monterey.

I hate writing negative reviews. It seems like thats all I do here on yelp...if something was seriously amazing believe me, I'd tell you. Again, this just wasn't Came here last night with the family, we were doing the Cherries Jubilee car show in the wharf parking lot and wanted something close by. We didn't want to go down alvarado so my boyfriend suggested Peter B's. I agreed and so did everyone else, because a couple years ago I remember I had a really good time. So we get there, there was a family already standing there, waiting to be seated but for some reason the hostess greeted us...when the family saw that she had skipped them, they immediatley chirped up and said that they were standing there waiting to be seated. So she wrote them name down etc. gave them this weird look. She then saw me and told me sorry, whatever and then wrote my name down. The family I guess decided not to wait and told her they were leaving when she was telling me how long the wait was, she kinda rolled her eyes and made this weird face and told them goodbye. She then looked at me and said sorry and kinda made the same face, I dunno she was kinda friendly in a rude way. So after that little encounter, I had to use the restroom. The entrance to the bathoom makes you think its gonna have tons of stalls. There was only 1. I don't judge restaurants on their bathrooms normally but dang, one stall? It was weird, why don't you make it one of those like closed bathrooms then? So then we sat down, our waitress was super nice. We ordered drinks and calamari. The beers were good, I had the blonde and my boyfriend had some amber ale, everyone else had hard alco and other drinks. When the calamari came out, I started laughing, the basket was so small and so was the calamari, I mean the rings were like so tiny and the tentacles...they looked like deep fried spiders, seriously wtf? Isn't calamari normally a pretty decent size? It didn't taste good either, kinda fishy not at all like calamari. So then we ordered, I ordered the shroom burger, my boyfriend ordered the octoberfest and his mom and dad ordred nachos, a bowl of clam chowder and garlic fries, their family friend ordered the sand dabs. Let me tell you, the food was seriously disgusting. I had a chance to taste everyones dish, we're a family lol. First off, I thought I ordered regular fries instead of garlic fries with my shroom burger but it came with garlic, whatever good thing I like garlic. And although I ordered my burger cooked medium, it was badly scorched and had the worst bitter burnt taste. The mushrooms tasted nothing like mushrooms and the only thing edible was the swiss cheese. If I wasn't starving I swear I would have walked out. I tasted the clam chowder, it was really runny and tasted like they put too much sage or some weird herb in it. I tasted the nachos, they were ok but they gave you a really small thing of sour cream and guacomole. The octoberfest first of all looked like they hacked the sausage to pieces. Instead of getting a whole sausage on a bun, it was like they cut the whole thing in half, like split it in half, so there was a round side and then a flat side, and thats it. And there weren't even 2 halves!! Where was the actual sausage? And it was SPICY like TOO SPICY. My poor boyfriend was like, I really wasn't in the mood for spicy thats why I got this. Yeah, it tasted like they put a bunch of jalepenos in it. Don't know about the sand dabs but the family friend said he liked it. Will go here for beers, and THATS IT. The food is horrible, our server was good, and because the food was that gross she agreed to take some of it off. So yes for beers and service. NO FOR FOOD.

While downtown on Sunday morning, I decided to check out Peter B's. They've recently updated their menu--perhaps to better compete with the new Cannery Row Brewing Company?--and I was intrigued. When I saw they had a turkey burger option--a rarity on local menus--I was sold. Sadly, lunch here on Sunday was a terrible disappointment. I started with an order of the fried mozzarella sticks. When they arrived, these weren't really sticks, so much as fried mozzarella balls. Many of them also burst during the frying purpose leaving behind just the fry batter and globs of cheese at the bottom of the serving basket. I was also a little surprised to see that the mozzarella sticks were battered in the same beer fry batter as the fish and chips. It was unexpected--though in Peter B's defense, they did warn us about this on the menu. I really don't know if this was a wise choice--the burnt beer batter overwhelmed the cheese and was all you could taste. The accompanying pepper aioli had no flavor and wasn't mixed enough--it looked grossly unappetizing. Sadly, things didn't improve with the main course. I ordered the turkey burger, of course. Yikes! I looked inside and the meat was white--I suspect (hope!) they used extra-lean turkey meat, not a wise choice for turkey burgers because it dries out easily and doesn't have much flavor. Sure enough, I took a bite and was underwhelmed. The burger itself tasted like charcoal with a few herbs thrown into the mix. I ate maybe a third of it and gave up. The mixed greens, instead of overly crunchy iceberg lettuce, was a good choice, as was the ciabatta bun, but these couldn't fix the disappointing burger. I ordered garlic fries with my burger and was disappointed with these too--they weren't crispy enough and had hardly any garlic flavor, especially frustrating because getting garlic fries cost $2 more. I could have forgiven the lackluster food had service been good, but that wasn't the case on Sunday. I definitely got the impression we were written off by our server as soon as he realized we weren't ordering beer. We waited and waited and waited to place our order, but the tables around us--full of beer--got prompt service. Sure, going on a game day might have been a mistake--the place was packed with football fans--but service shouldn't suffer *that* much because of crowds. I can be pretty forgiving of restaurants and I'd like to give Peter B's another shot, but food and service was so bad on Sunday, I doubt I'll be back. Next time I've got a hankering for pub food, I'll stick with the Cannery Row Brewing Company--sure, they might not be perfect, but they're infinitely better than Peter B's!

So the manager contacting me after I posted a review of my experience here and offered to provide a gift certificate so that I would come check out the place again. While I do not plan on taking the gift certificate, the fact that they were interested in resolving my bad experience really impresses me and I plan on swinging back by to give it another try.

They brewed their own beers and it is very STRONG taste to it. I am not a beer fan :-P Stanley and I had: Garlic fries, fried Artichokes(not fresh), and buffalo wings. Not the best foods but good enough for us to eat. My margarita was not good though and i got drunk from it. Probably won't come here for a while.

Peter B's is a solid three stars. While supposedly a brewery (makes their beer in house), I can't say that I'd ever had more ordinary beer from any other so-called brewer. They serve up your standard ales (blonde, pale, brown, amber, wheat, porter, etc) which don't really do much to keep my taste buds wanting more. I remember the food being ok. The atmosphere is pretty good. With televisions covering every wall, it makes as an acceptable sports bar. The best element however is the free pool table in the back! (and the free popcorn). Not a place I visit often, but when I do, I'm usually having a good time.

Stopped by for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by Peter B's. We sat outside with the puppy and enjoyed a unusually warm afternoon in Monterey. The beer was decent and the buffalo wings were actually very good. The jalapeno sweet potatoes fries were not as good, and we didnt finish those. Not sure if i would come back for a full meal, but happy hour is a win.

This is a good sports bar. Lively, good appetizers and food. More than enough TV's for every sports game, good for groups or just sitting at the bar and watching the game. Not the largest beer selection because they try to market their own beer which is brewed in-house; unfortunately it is nothing special. This is their downside. They have a decent IPA if that's your taste,

We had the worst service here on Friday night. * We didn't get the appetizer we ordered. * Our waiter disappeared after we ordered and we never saw him again. * The girl who i guess took over dropped the dinner with no silverware. * My BF requested Tartar sauce, which took 15 minutes to get and we had to ask someone else for it. * Never checked on us * We had to ask for the check * When I got the check, I asked if we had been charged for the appetizer that we ordered. The girl said no, but didn't apologize at all or acknowledge the mistake of never bringing the appetizer. * I noticed that we got charged for 2 20oz beers instead of my 16oz and my BF's 20oz. At that point, I just really wanted to get the heck out of there and so I just paid without saying anything. On top of all that, the food was nothing remarkable and neither was the beer. I'd prefer a Michelob Lite over the beer I ordered. It's too bad because we would have went back the next day to watch the game if we had been treated decently. It would have been a nice place to go with the dog with the outdoor seating.

Went to Monterey for a getaway weekend and we were looking for a bar to watch a hockey playoff game. This bar came recommended to us by the hotel we stayed at, so we decided to give it a go, despite the somewhat poor reviews. We should have trusted the Yelp reviews instead. A few things... 1 - Given it was a bar with a TON of HDTVs, I can see how this might be a great hangout for sports fans. However, it's 2010, and when you have HDTVs, you should have the games in HD. I'm not trying to be overly picky, but hockey playoffs in anything else doesn't do the game justice. If you're going to make the investment in the equipment, at least have HD. 2 - The food, as someone else called it, really is "dog food"... We had onion rings as an appetizer, and I've had FAR better. I then had a chicken caesar salad while my girlfriend had fish n' chips. The salad was small, and didn't have anywhere near a full breast of chicken. The fish n' chips were way too greasy (as were the onion rings) and she managed to find MUCH better on the wharf the following day. 3 - We walked right in and sat ourselves at a table, and didn't get service for almost 30 minutes. We later found out this was because you're supposed to be seated. This isn't how bars typically work, and if there had been a host/hostess to stop us, perhaps this wouldn't have happened. Numerous times I tried to get the bartender's attention, but he wasn't having it. 4 - Even though we got service, it wasn't much. Our waiter was a really nice guy, and we tipped him extremely well since we stayed for the whole game and we knew he wouldn't be able to turn over the table. However, he was basically working the entire bar area, and it was hard to get anything we needed. Once we got our onion rings, they were cold by the time I could ask for another set of silverware and a napkin. I'm not expecting a 5 star restaurant here...but given we paid $70 for a greasy appetizer, a small salad, underwhelming fish n' chips and 4 beers (they actually do have good beers), and that it was in a fancy hotel, I expected better. If they fix these things, it has the potential to be a great sports bar to watch games.

After hiking all day V picked this place for dinner. I think it's pretty good for American food at a reasonable price. Everything was under $20 which is nice. Our group of 16 crammed into 2 tables. It was doable but kinda tight. You have to asked for water because they are being environmental so not automatically giving it away. Huge glass w/ a slice of lemon & ice. Nice. They have Daily Happy Hr Specials from 4-7pm. I tried the artichoke & spinach dip $3.88 - pretty tasty dip w/ slices of bread some plain & others buttered. Also I tried the Monterey Bay Clam Chowder $5.75- huge bowl of chowder w/ many clams, potatoes, white chowder. I liked it. It came w/ a small bag of crackers. Veggie burger $8 - had grilled portobello mushrooms, bell pepper, zucchini & the veggie patty. I thought the portobello mushrooms was ok, other veggies too greasy. Patty way on the bottom, I thought was just ok. Stuff that looked good to me: seared ahi tuna salad $12 - looked good Fresh mozzarella & basil panini $8 - good for vegetarians. Looked good. They have burgers, pastas, fish, quesadilla, etc. Recommended if in the area & on a budget. Separate bathrooms in front left near the entrance.

You would think that a brewpub would have St. Paddy's day down!! Especially one that's been in the same location for years, is in the heart of downtown and around the corner from a large hotel...If it weren't for the friends that we came here to hang out with, we would not have stayed at all!! I counted at least 5 people behind the bar but it didn't appear they were capabable of serving anyone??? After waiting at the bar for 10 minutes, we went back out on the patio, where we told the heat lamps were out because they were out of fuel and other members of our group were waiting for their drinks, which they had ordered at least 10 mintues before we even got there. It took at least a half hour for drinks to come out to the patio. We didn't even attempt to order food....

I'll give them two stars because they gave a super cheap happy hour in an overly expensive town. The one star would be for the mess they called a pizza. I ordered pizza with grilled veggies. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect grilled veggies to be peppers or onions or mushrooms but grilled none the less. They took a scoop of frozen veggies: carrots cauliflower and broccoli and dumped them on top of the pizza. It's the kind if generic frozen veggies you get between a steak and a baked potato. When I questioned the waiter he sort mumbled and walked off. Maybe he was alarmed by the giant carrot chunks too...gross.

I came here with my boyfriend and even though the Giants lost we had a great time watching the game. Our waiter was attentive and gave great suggestions. After I decided on trying a Hefeweizen for the first time he brought me two small samples. One with an orange and one with a lemon. I never thought of fruit mixed with beer before... the concept was so strange. He suggested lemon as the best, but he let me taste it and came back to get my opinion on the matter after a few minutes. I chose the 16oz Hefewizen w/ lemon, as he suggested. (BTW: I was not charged for the samples.) Later, when more friends arrived we decided to order food. Our waiter gave us some suggestions but I tried the crab pizza and my boyfriend ordered the buffalo wings. On previous visits I've had their calamari, and the veggie sandwich, both are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Overall, I'm not going to give Peter B's a 5 star because this is not my favorite eatery or my favorite bar. I am a fan of Peter B's and their quiet, spacious, family friendly atmosphere.

I give the two stars for two reasons, good nachos and good happy hour prices. Other then that, they have some management issues. I went to watch a football game (since it was out of market) on a Sunday and the place was a zoo, which I'm ok with. But they were not staffed to handle this. I'm pretty sure the NFL releases their schedule months in advanced and doesn't throw too many wrinkles in it, for the last 100 years, most of the games are on Sunday. Somehow Peter B's didn't get that memo yet. I waited over 20 minutes to be seated, when they took my party to the seating area half the booths were empty, I'm not sure what the wait was for. Our waitress was trying her best but she complained to us multiple times that the bartenders and the cooks were what was taking so long, not her. We were there over the lunch time, on a Sunday during football season, I'm not sure why they couldn't staff accordingly. The menu looked like it had a good selection of beers made on premises but I stuck to cocktails because the happy hour prices were so good.

My daughter and I ended up at Peter B's while walking to Benihanas, the yummy smell from the brewpub lured us in. We were quickly seated in a nice booth with a variety of sports playing on multiple screens. My vegetarian daughter was thrilled to see a veggie burger and fruit on the menu while I opted for the "Shroom" with onion rings. Our orders were out quickly and the both our burgers looked great. The burgers were very filling and delicious, while the fresh fruit was at its peak and the onion rings were perfect. We both had order margaritas and desserts which were good but not over the top. The staff was responsive and pleasant. We would definitely visit again.

Three times should be a charm, but it wasn't. Beer and wings are better when paired with football (which was the case for each visit here), otherwise, it was just the average beer and wings. Service was almost comical...waitstaff dressed as referees (cute, but not really) and almost nonexistent.

Great go to place with awesome barkeeps, free popcorn, a pool table, and an AWESOME full bar for eating bar food to.... or watching sports... or getting that one nightcap before you stumble to your room. They make their own beers, and whats more the brewmaster is skilled! Go figure. A great locals place where good conversation always happens, you won't be disappointed if you are looking for a simple, unpretentious place to find camaraderie, a drink, or some good comfort food.

The service here was a bit slow at first, to be honest, but I was sitting in the bar during an NFL game. The bartender (Aaron) was running the show- waiting on tables as well as the entire bar. When he came over to me he was friendly and quick to take my order and deliver my food. I ordered the Sweet Potato Spicy Cracker fries, or something to that effect. They were really good, and spicy! I also had the soup, Chicken Curry and Rice, which was pretty good too. Aaron also brought me to-go boxes, the growler I ordered and got my check back to me faster than I expected considering the crowd in the bar. The bar was clean, the fireplace was warm and the game was on! I had a great experience for my quick little lunch and I'll definitely come back here when I'm in town again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Portola and Spa Hotel. He doesn't have a Yelp account and wanted me to post what a wonderful experience he had at this pub. The ambiance was very cool and he was so impressed by Alvin Olis who is the manager of the pub who was very welcoming and just took the time to tell him about all the great places to see in Monterey. Alvin is such a stand up guy and my boyfriend said he only wished the bay area had such great pubs like Peter B's Brew Pub! Thanks Alvin, for your hospitality! If your ever in Monterey, stop by especially during happy hour!

have been here several times with friends. we always sat on the patio and drank many, many pitchers. i enjoyed the place because i could smoke a cigarette and people watch. this past weekend i went there with 5 friends. we ordered 3 pitchers. we ordered food. i got a turkey burger. DO NOT GET the turkey burger. it was by far the worst turkey burger i have ever had. it reminded me of cardboard, but uglier. strike 1. then the balding midgit waiter troll told me i could not smoke my post crappy meal cigarette. strike 2. when we gave the waiter the bill he never came back. after 20 minutes i asked the bad bottle job blonde, yellow t-shirt wearing "hostess" where our waiter went. she said they were too busy to be concerned with us. strike 3. peace out Peter B. my pals and i will never darken your patio again. and we will make darn sure none of our friends or family do either.

If you're a local, you cant do yourself a bigger favor than to join the mug club here. For 50 bucks you get your own personalized mug, your first beer on the house, and subsequent 25 oz beers for less than 5 bucks!! I joined for a Christmas present to myself last year and have more than made up for it! They also have mug club only parties once a month or so with free food, desserts and cheaper beer!! They have made great progress recently making the place a little better, from their redesigned menu to their more local feel with their beers (Fort Ord Wheat, Belly Up Otter Blonde). I dont really eat there too often, and havent since they unveiled their new nicer menus. I have had the pizza which is decent... not bad, but definitely not the best around. The couple times I have tried burgers they have been kind of dry and not really fulfilling. BUT their wings are by far the best food item I have had. They have an initial sweetness before the spicy that makes them so good! And to wash it down with a beer is just the perfect combo! I must add that I only wish they had more than one pool table!!!

Terrible! Writing review while still at pub this is so bad...This place has really gone down hill. We used to come frequently. We are not going to come back. The menu is limited and you might as well eat a bucket of grease- even the grilled fish tacos were dripping in stale grease! Disgusting!!! It made us sick to our stomachs. The craft beer could have been Budweiser it tasted so mediocre. And it wasn't cheap- they wanted $12 for a pint glass when most places sell them for $6. (Not that we would by one anyways) Ridiculous! They need to improve things stat or it isn't going to last long. Even tourist will start to know better!!!

Peter B's reached out to me and redeemed itself, which was a nice customer service gesture. This time around, we really enjoyed the generous heaping of pulled pork nachos, spicy sweet potato garlic fries- which has a lil kick, and better than average waiter service. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to have a better experience. I will return :)

Pathetic! I love beer and I thought this place would have great beer considering that it was a BREW pub. First, the waitress asks if we wanted one of their wonderful mojitos. hmmm....thought I was at a brewery. Well, the beer was ick! so I opted for wine. Wait...wine...ummm....we don't have a wine list. Well, do you know what wine you do have. Well, we have red, white, or pink.... Hello? Aren't we in wine country?! The food was disgusting and was sent back. I don't know why anyone would go here. Bad beer, bad food, no service!

My girlfriend and I came during happy hour on a Wednesday. They have a full bar. We ordered a 5 beer sampler for $6 bucks. We loved the free popcorn served in the bar area. They have a 6 different appetizers on the happy hour menu. The calamari was served with three different dips and was just okay. We also ordered the crab and shrimp quesadillas which were okay too. It's a nice spot if you're near Fisherman's Wharf and in the mood for beer.

The beer is ok. It tastes very amateur-ish. The food will give you a stomach ache because everything is so greasy, but it's worth it. I really like the spicy tortilla soup and love the beer battered cheese. The service was 4 stars. This place is awesome if you're a sports nut.

The bottom line is that their home brews are just not that good. They need a new beer meister. I wanted to like this place because I love beer and micro brew in particular, but the one in Marina is so much better. The food is pretty basic and certainly isn't worth going out of your way to get.

The high light of my trip to Monterey from Santa Monica was definitely our last stop at Peter B's. From talking with the locals with their empty growers ready to be filled to having the best server in a long time, Peter B's was more than welcoming. Seated in axcomfortable relaxed booth over looking their amazing brewery, our server Lirio was the all time Best! Not only was he knowledgeable on their latest brews, he was accommodating and more than cool. He provided us with cool swag and offered taste of any beers we showed interest in without us asking. They have an amazing happy hour, great sampler and an interesting $4 brew on cask. As a family man and fellow brewer, this place was great for both myself and my family includiny 3 year old daughter. My father in law very much enjoyed his Swedish meatballs. Cheers to the brewer Kevin, who while working invited us to a tour of the brewery. My wife says your Otto Pale Ale is the Best! I would definitely visit again on my next trip through Nor Cal!

Food is HORRIBLE! Stale bread on sandwich, stale bread pudding, beer is not up to par. Everything is unecessarily super greasy, calamari is not fresh, service was horrible! We got overcharged by $50 and still had to pay it. Do yourself a favor and NEVER GO HERE!

We came on a Sunday to watch the football game. After paying for parking we were asked where we'd like to sit. Welet the hostess know we were there to watch the game but she still wanted to seat us In a booth in the back. Our waitress was robotically over friendly and took ten minutes to bring us waters and another ten to bring us beers. The crowd was cool and very diverse and the food smelledand looked amazing. I regreted eating before I came.

This is a hidden brew pub, in the Portola Plaza. Beer is okay, food is mediocre, service was capital T terrible!! There was 7 people in the pub, but got the crappiest service ever. Their Russian Imperial Stout was more of a porter, but their IPA was good. The barstress was to busy cleaning to ask if I needed another beer. All in all this place was okay, they get one star for service, but get two stars for their "home brew" as the barstress called it.

A group of us came here for drinks and dinner, and were pleasantly surprised! We came just in time for happy hour- $3 margaritas, $4 beers, etc, and appetizers. The spinach-artichoke dip was so good! Then we had dinner- I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and fries, which was really delicious. Other people ordered the pulled pork sandwich, burgers, sliders, and paninis and everyone really enjoyed their meal. I have to say though, our waitress was awesome. After sitting at the small tables at the bar, the manager kept telling us to wait for a seat even though there were many tables open. Our waitress said to "ignore him" and she sat us in her section. Not only did she deal with seven slightly drunk and loud college kids, she did it was a smile and was super friendly. After one of the guys ordered the raspberry beer, she first brought the whole table samples to try it in case we didn't like it (side note: interesting taste, close but no cigar). Time for the bill... for seven meals, numerous beers/margs/long islands, and two appetizers... the total (split equally seven ways) was only $10.71!! She compted a lot of the drinks and apps we ordered which was so awesome of her. Needless to say she got a big tip from us, plus many invites to come join us at the bars later!

I've been putting off writing this review for a while now because it means reliving my experience there. It was the fourth of July so I'm hoping they were working with a skeleton crew. So here it goes: I was exited to try this place since they brew their own beer and they've been around for a while. We were promptly seated and our drink order was taken by our seemingly reluctant waitress. Everything went downhill from there. Long story short, it took us almost an hour from the time we sat down to the time we got any food. BTW, we were one of only three or four tables with people in the whole place. When our food finally came, our "piping hot" clam chowder was cold. Not room temperature, it was cold. Clearly it came out of the fridge and into a microwave, though not for too long. We ask the waitress to nuke it. When she came back the chowder was just above room temp. We had to send it back again. 3rd time's a charm! Finally the chowder came back with some steam to it. This is seafood folks, You don't serve this stuff at unsafe temperatures!! The rest of the food wasn't too bad. I would definitely not return to this place. The beers were good but the service completely killed it for me. There are too many great places in Monterey to bother returning. Sorry folks.

I'm writing this review because I think this place deserves better than it's current 3 star rating. I eat here a couple times a month and the food is consistently good and the service is good. Try the fish tacos.

Been to Peter B's a handful of times - I'm a fan of their beers and the big mugs, but the service is usually mediocre and the food is nothing to write home about. To clarify, the bartenders and hostesses are great, it's the wait staff that's typically slow and inattentive. Garlic fries are yum, but hard to mess up and pretty standard (frozen? not sure). Also, if you stay late on a weekday, prepare to be kicked out slightly rudely. I think we got the boot at midnight-ish.

It's the final of Euro 2008, being shown on ABC, which I don't get ('cos there ain't no ABC on the central coast unless you have cable!) - time to find a pub or bar showing the game. The only place I've seen advertising their showing of the game was the Britannia Arms. My only question - how busy would it be? I turn up 10 minutes before kick off and the place is standing room only - I guess I'm not the only person in town who's interested in the game. Time for plan 'B' - which had already been formulated. I hit Peter B's brewpub as their advertising always consists of their own brewed beers and lots of TV's showing sports - sounds like a recipe for success and I'm sure I can get one showing the game. I turn up, place it almost empty, but the game is on the vast majority of their TV's - things are looking good - I go set myself at the bar just in time for kick off. It's also lunchtime, so this will be a beer and food review! First the beer - it's a brewpub, they brew their own beer (duh!). Happily, they brew their own IPA - I'm already liking the place. I order one, and get the option of pint, imperial pint or 25oz glass - this place is getting better. Given that it's before noon, I go for the US pint, and it's very tasty, better still. At this stage they're at a 6 star pace - so how did they get down to 4 stars? Well, two things (which, guess what, cost a point each). Firstly, the food - this place is part of the Portola Plaza Hotel complex, so you're getting hotel bar food - pretty much what you'd expect, nothing special, nothing bad - I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries - burger was tasty, fries were blah - I enjoyed it, but it was nothing special. Secondly, 13 flat panel TV's, but none of them had a high def feed - a real shame given the capabilities of the sets. So, 6 stars down to 4. The final itself was excellent - a good close game, Spain won and Torres netted the winner. Interestingly the place filled up about half way through the first half, and by the second half, was fairly packed. Most people seemed to be cheering the Spanish on, even better to enjoy the game in the company of like minded fans. With a killer IPA and sports on TV, I'll happily put up with nothing special bar food.

The beer here is great - now if they could only do something about the food. I think if you're not a vegetarian, you'll fare better at this place. But - jeez, guys, throw me a bone! You have pasta; just toss a can of chopped tomatoes and some cut-up olives on it, call it pasta primavera, and I'll have something to eat. My only option was a fairly weak mozzarella panini.

Awesome pub! We went in to Peter B's to grab a few drinks and ended up staying for lunch and vowing to return. The food was incredible... artichoke tapenade and the chili were delicious. Best of all was the staff... friendly, helpful and made sure we weren't without drinks or anything else we needed. Awesome!

I went there on Sunday to have a beer and watch a local football game outside on the patio. We sat down and wait about 10-15 minutes and still did not see a waiter. The service here is slow on a weekday, so service was really bad during a Sunday with a big football crowd watching games at the bar. We decided to go inside to the bar and order our beers and some food. The food was brought out to us on the patio shortly after we ordered at the bar. The food is good, but not great. I asked the hostess if she could turn the T.V. to the local football game. The hostess told me she had to wait till the one football game was over before she could turn the station on the television on the patio. We were the only ones sitting outside at the time. The over all feeling I had was most of the restaurant staff were under staffed, and some lacked customer service.

Took a minute to add that extra star... I went to Peter B's very recently. The lowdown is... pretty alright food for the prices (unless you go during happy hour **4-7pm** then the prices are GREAT!)... very slow service for the amount of people in there... great sports coverage and selection... alright beers on tap. When I went, I arrived at 7:02pm on the dot (somebody had to finish their cigarette) and I was told I was too late for the happy hour specials. Even after some prodding with the host; adding that I had come here expressly for the happy hour deals, I was told there would be no exceptions. I suppose that was fair... After being seated the waiter promptly took our orders and went away to get our drinks. We were going there mostly for beer so we ordered a pitcher of their Pilsner and settled in for some sports. I counted about 9 big TVs and even facing outward towards the heated outdoor patio. The reason they get 3 stars and no more is because our waiter took a LONG time with everything. From getting our drinks to him bringing the food each took at least 20 minutes. I would have understood if it was a packed house but there were only about 10 or 12 tables seated and not many people at the bar. Waiter was very attentive when helping us just horrendously slow. The table next to us asked for their check not long after we sat down and ended up just walking up to the bar to take care of their bill. To sum it up, great place to go have a beer and watch the game, just be sure you're there between 4 and 7 if you wanna take advantage of the $4 calamari, $3 garlic fries, $4 hot wings, and a number of other great deals including cheap beer!

BEER! If you are a beer enthusiast, or just enjoy a cold one, this is the place to go. I recommend getting a sampler if you haven't been here before, and if you get the opportunity, talk to the man who makes it, Kevin.

In a community that could really use an awesome restaurant, this place continues to disappoint. I've come to a conference here for each of the last three years, and every time I hope that they've "worked things out". Sad to report that, this isn't the year either. Truly average food quality (a clear indication that there's no real "skill" in the kitchen, as they have a decent menu). Consistently crappy service (even at the bartop), and forgettable brews. Moving on in 2009.

Cheetos on the food. Seriously does anything else need to be said? This place is deplorable! We get sat at a booth and the waitress first comes and offers us a cocktail. Wait a minute, I thought this place was a brew pub? We order the sampler then a couple decent beers. I ordered the Mac and Cheese with Spinach thinking anybody who has the nerve to put this on their menu must do a nice job. That is where the Cheetos come in. I was embarased for myself and the chef that I was supposed to eat Cheeto's for dinner. Maybe in kindergarten that would have been cool. My wife got the nastiest fish and chips I've ever seen as well. They both got sent back and we split. While our check was being prepared nobody stopped by to see what the problem was. Usually a manager would come by and attempt to make things right. Not this time! My wife alse queried about the local wines. She was told they had, white, red and are you ready for this PINK wine. Unfortunately we were looking for something more maroon or purple. :)

My wife and I went here because we were given a $50 gift certificate as a gift. Our meals were decent (not bad, not great). But get this, when we went to pay with our gift certificate and asked about our credit, the manager informed us that we would not be receiving one for the unused portion for future use. He explained that they have problems with their accounting department and that their policy is for patrons to use the entire amount of a gift certificate in one visit. If we knew that, we would have invited another couple to dine with us. As a consolation, we were offered to order two meals to go...thirty minutes later we picked the meals up, opened our "to go" boxes at home, and found they didn't even give us what we had ordered. Just a terrible experience. We're locals and we will not dine here again.

I took my husband to Peter B's for his birthday, on our way down the coast for a get-a-way weekend. I'd made a reservation, but the hostess could not find it. I offered to show her the confirmation, but she wasn't interested. Not a huge issue since the restaurant was relatively empty. Our waitress started out on a high note..even bringing an extra "sample" of beer when she found out is was my husband's birthday. The food was mediocre, and took forever to get to our table. Surprising since there were very few patrons. I had the Portola burger with fries, which was cold. My husband had the fish tacos which were a runny mess. His onion rings were good, but also cold. We asked our waitress repeatedly for a glass of water, and I can't tell you how many times she walked by our table without bringing it. Nice gal, but I'm not sure what was distracting her that day. Lastly, we had to wait an exceptionally long time for our check. I finally grabbed another waitress walking by, NOT ours, and asked her if we could please get our check. All in all quite disappointing. We won't be back.

Great tasting beer, amazing food, and great service! The staff was very friendly and efficient when it was a packed full house. I just became a mug member and if you like good beer, it's for sure worth it. I'm also just finding out about the happy hour. Wings, Rings, and Calamari!

My brother, who loves brew pubs and anything cheep for that matter, suggested we come here. I love the massive amount of TVs everywhere and the warm fire. Our server, Amanda, was very nice and attentive. The Monterey sand dabs are excellent; crispy and tender with a not overpowering lemon caper sauce served with fresh whipped garlic mashed potato's that are not too garlicy and fresh vegetables; definitely a nice satisfying filling lunch. The fried artichokes are crispy and greasless with a crispy outside and soft inside. We love the beer sampler which allows you to sample up to four beers; we had various light and wheat beers; I loved the blond beer and another one that came with it. It is fun watching the brew master do his thing. So, for great food and beer at great prices with friendly service to match, Peter B's cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.!

Very good drinks and a fun atmosphere - billiards and a bar, but still tables to sit at with a so-so amount of food. Get there earlier than later, though, if you want access to the pool table, let alone the full menu (it switches to a smaller "late night" selection after a certain hour).

despite the usually miss (vs. hit) service, i keep coming here. the beers are tasty. i can appreciate a place that brews their own beer and does it well. i agree that the hi-def TVs are not being utilized to their full potential, but the bar is still a comfortable place to catch a game or two (or five).

This place SUCKS. Food is like dog food. Wanted to get a bite to eat that wasn't touristy after coming down for the day. All there "Blue Ribbon" favorites suck. Round table down the street if you want pizza.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed it here. I had their fish & chips and was very impressed by it. I would say it was the best I've had so far. I washed it down with their beer sampler. Five decent sized glasses of beer, all brewed at that location. My girlfriend had a club sandwich with a couple of mixed drinks. She enjoyed the sandwich but said the her drinks might have been watered down. Other than that, it is a great place to eat.
