one of the many mexican restaurants in the monrovia area. they have a little cart that comes up and makes guacamole in front of you. cute little restaurant. the shrimp cocktails weren't the best, the guacamole was great, but i was expecting better food overall

Terrific local restaurant with great service and fine food. If you are looking for exceptional you will be dissipointed, if you want good at a good price, you have hit the jackpot.

Well to start the place is really small. The smaller mexican places are usually good... not here. It took 20 minutes to take our order, even though the place was half empty. I think they were mad we did not pop for the guacamole. Then it took 45 minutes for our food to come. Yes, we were nearly going to leave. The salsa was watery, the food was warm not hot and the tamale on my plate was dry and ice cold inside. I would think that waiting that long meant the food might be hot. Not so. The rice was dry. The beans were OK... but my friend was sick later so the bean and cheese burrito she had might not have been so good. Skip this place and go somewhere else.

Food here is very good. I've been here many times and I have never been disappointed. For starters, the table-side guacamole is fantastic. You can't go wrong with fresh guacamole. It's a little pricey, but it's worth trying at least once. I've tried many different dinner dishes and they are all good. I can't say that I have a favorite, I guess it all depends on my mood. If you've never had any Mexican food outside of places like Acapulco or El Torito, you may not be familiar with some of the menu selections. Los Gueros has more traditional meals like Steak Picado and Chile Verde. Don't be afraid to try something different. Like I've said, I've never been disappointed here. One thing I really, really like about this place is that they are constantly (and I do mean constantly) refilling my soda. I might be down only 1/2 cup and the guy will fill it up for me. If you are a soda-freak like me, you will appreciate this. I usually go through 2 cups of soda before the meal even comes out. Not to say the meal takes long to come out. Actually, all of the service is very fast and the servers are very friendly. Not to mention the prices are reasonable. Dinner for 2 with 2 sodas (no guacamole) will be less than $30.

Los Gueros - not sure how authentically Mexican you are, but you seem to meet the bare minimum BACKGROUND: The family comes here once or twice a year, always with an Entertainment Book coupon in hand. Buy one entree, get one free. C'mon, we're Chinese - we love free! SETTING: Small little joint off of Huntington with a red brick design. We go in and there's a few workers visible, so just flag anyone down and start chompin' on those complimentary bottomless chips and salsa. HITLIST: Guacamole - so my old man wanted to spice things up and get guacamole, so they bring the little cart/bar over and give us freshly made guacamole. It was surprisingly delicious and the show was enjoyable, watching the guy make it. What was not enjoyable was finding out that the serving put me $6 back. Not cool. (5.5/10) Beef Tamale - nice corn coating and somewhat dry and firm beef. It was okay, nothing special, and nothing I can't get at any other place. (4/10) Chile Relleno - the chile was weak sauce, merely aesthetic with no heat nor flavor at that. The filling was forgettable - probably won't be getting this anymore. (3/10) Chicken Chimichanga w/ no beans - the sister doesn't like beans, so it's basically a chicken and cheese chimichanga, which isn't too bad. I really like chimichangas in general, so this chimichanga meets par. (6/10) VERDICT: I only come here when I have the BOGO coupon. The chips and salsa are quite good, but not enough to make me come back to this specific restaurant for bottomless chips. I'll go if it's convenient, but won't go out of my way for it. Servings are big, but not sure if it's worth the price.

Good food, friendly staff! The made to order guacamole was the best part of our dining experience. Doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a gem in my book!

Save your self a trip and pass on this place, I would never go back, food that seems old and out of a can.

I love me some Los Gueros! As everyone mentions, the guacamole made table-side is a MUST. It's delicious and can be ordered however your heart desires... me, I like it with everything. Chips and salsa are great, as they offer a bowl of spicy along with a bowl of mild. Currently, I am obsessed with their carnitas tacos. The carnitas is perfectly crunchy on the outside (not greasy) and so moist and flavorful on the inside, not one bit dry. You get a huge pile of carnitas in a warm corn tortilla, topped with pico de gallo and guacamole. I always get the combo plate because I love to have rice and beans too. My mom loves the cheese enchilada, my dad always gets a verde burrito served wet and my son gets the bean and cheese burrito, wet. The burritos are huge! Service is always great with super waiters, who are so nice, you feel like you're dining at a friend's house. Parking is weird though. Street parking isn't sufficient and the lot next to the restaurant has all the spaces marked with signs saying the spaces are for the donut shop next door, so I always worry about getting a ticket or something. I'll keep taking my chances though! I like this place!

Came here for dinner with a couple of friends and I enjoyed it. They give you complimentary chips and salsa, and then (if you pay for it) they will come around with a cart and make you fresh handmade guacamole! Yum :) They also have really cheap drinks. Since we went on a Thursday, we got the 99 cent piña coladas. Good stuff~ Unfortunately, I didn't really care for the Enchilada Verde that I ordered. But I wouldn't mind going back and trying something else. So the place gets three stars total.

I drive by this place all the time and the hubs and I finally tried the place out. Probably the first and last time we'll eat there. The only positive note was the guacamole. They bring a cart out and make it right in front of you. It was good. Other than that I can't say more for Los Gueros. We went on Wednesday where the margaritas were $1.50. And the margaritas tasted like $1.50. My two enchilada combo plate was pretty bland. The hubs had two soft carne asada tacos, which looked tasty, but according to the hubs didn't have much flavor. Sorry Los Gueros. I'll just keep on driving.

BEST Mexican restaurant in the area hands down. I can't wait to return. FRESH hand made guacamole at your table side prepared in front of you. Garlic SHRIMP.......YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only go here in the morning or afternoon when the server, Jesus, is there. he is very attentive and never forgets anything. I like the monday beer specials, and I love their breakfast dishes.

BF and I went to watch Robin Hood on his day off, matinee special just the way I like. When you get to theatres around noon on a weekday, they're literally empty and teen-free. I really don't like places that are packed with teens, and movie theatres are notorious for that. Anyway, we walked down the street to grab lunch, and stopped into Los Gueros Mexican Restaurant for a quick bite and happy hr drink. Our server, Danny, was extremely gracious and helpful and not annoying, and even gave us a coupon for a free side of guacamole upon our next visit. Yay! Anyhow, the chips and salsa were bottomless and the chips were piping hot--extra points! Salsa wasn't as spicy as we liked but heck, we're in Old Town Monrovia and the masses there probably can't handle hardcore spices anyway. I got the chicken flautas appetizer and hubby got a burrito. Then we got like five margaritas (three bucks a pop!). They were delicious, and so is getting buzzed and stumbling around the town on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. I speak only for myself of course. We shall be back.

I won't be returning! and yes, way OVERPRICED, very runofthemill , mediocre mexican food. I can make better food at home! Ok so apparently they have #1.one guy taking your order, and #2. one guy who comes and gives you chips and salsa. I asked the chip-guy the price of a Margarita, he says 3.75, so when they ring me up, the waiter guy says its $5 each Margartia; I told him the chip guy told me a different price, and i even asked the chip-guy in front of this loser waiter guy " didn't u just say 3.75 per margarita" and he responded" oh yes i did, isn't that the price" but yet the guy ringing me up said " nope they are 5" even though their employee , clearly said it was his fault. Honestly, whats the difference? like 1.25, he should have honored the price given on behalf of his employees fault. It's chum change but its just the damn principle. I was going to give them tip but i really did not appreciate that crap, so no tip and never coming again! I mean, it's the SGV, there are a million other mexican places around...had this guy just honored the difference in price, he would have gotten at least 4.50 in tips. Fine be a greedy dumbass and see what you get. This place is almost always nearly empty anyway. If you want great mexican food, great margaritas and better service, i recommend Margarita Jones in Pasadena.

  • Lisa L.

I have read so many reviews that I wanted to give this restaurant a try. So many people recommended the guacamole cart so we tried it. It was just average. I ordered their beef tostada I thought it was bland. How can you ruin a tostada? I guess it's possible especially if you eat at Los Gueros. If you want good Mexican food go to the ranchero restaurant in duarte. I went there this week and it was really good. One of the best tostadas I have had. Another place that has wonderful Mexican food is Ernie Jrs taco house in eagle rock. Highly recommended. Sorry Los gueros but their are better Mexican restaurants out there.

I discovered this restaurant on a Sunday bike ride eight years ago and have been coming ever since. I have not gone through the entire menu because I can never get past the table side guacamole, the carnitas tacos, the homemade tortillas, and the tasty menudo. My wife loves the huevos a la mexicana and the huevos rancheros.

  • Jonji P.

I've eaten at Los Gueros a couple of times for lunch with my girlfriend. It's a great local mexican restaurant in Monrovia with excellent service. Never had a problem the times we've gone there and always leave feeling satisfied. You get great food for the price and they offer fresh guacamole made at your table which adds a nice touch but also kind of expensive at $5.95. Chips and salsa are always complimentary. The menudo is excellent and made daily unlike most other places that only offer it on certain days of the week. They have a nice selection of combination platters which are all reasonably priced and no more then $7.95. I think most of the dishes also come with rice and beans and tortillas are made fresh. Parking can be a pain but I hear they have parking available in the back if you can't find any on the street. It's a great hole-in-the-wall place to eat if you're in the Monrovia area and craving for some mexican food.

A very good little hole in the wall Mexican Restaurant in Monrovia =). The waiters are very friendly and funny. Its a very chill/casual vibe. Its better food to me then most of the mexican chains in the area. Food is good, what you would expect, nothing thats out of this world. The highlight there is their guacamole cart, its so cute =) they come over with the cart and make it fresh to order however you want it, my fav. Recommend: Guacamole Cart Tacos Nachos (sooo goood) Hibiscus Juice (bomb fruit drink)

My friends and I have been going to this place for several years. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is high quality and tasty. The prices are more than reasonable. The servers are very friendly and they are more than happy to "customize" your meal for you.

I was vacationing over the Thanksgiving weekend in the area. On the way out, I had a craving for mexian food. Luckily on the exit I found Los Gueros. I asked if they had food to go. The food was excellent...my only issue was that while I was waiting I felt like an outsider (did not get chips while waiting). Anyway the food was better than expected...I wish I would have ate inside instead of while driving! I will be back to this place for sure!

Wow, this is akward... It seems to be there is a huge consensus on 5 stars for this place. I had a different experience last night. We were looking for a Mexican restaurant and saw this place and thought "oh ok, let's go there." So we did. Ordered Albondigas, a combo plate, and also their Guacamole. Bland... bland... bland.... Albondigas, bland, combo plate, bland, Guacamole, bland. How could you mess a Guacamole???? Anyway, will never go back.....

One Word: MENUDO! I love menudo, but I love how accessible it is to me during my short lunch hour. We used to go to Rigo's on Foothill but now that we've found Los Gueros we really have no need to ever go back to that place. Let me list a couple of the perks you'll find at Los Gueros: - 99 cent margaritas on Wednesdays (even on your lunch hour) - 99 cent coronas on Mondays - 99 cent pina coladas on Thursday - FRESH GUACAMOLE: a cute little man comes around with a rolling cart and will mix all the guacamole fixins right before you - Menudo SERVED DAILY and with all the accessories: lemons, cilantro, oregano and chili God bless Los Gueros! Thank you Yelpers, if not for you I would've never been able to feed my forever menudo craving!

    (5)
  • Adriana R.

SO GOOD! I literally crave their burritos. When you go, make sure yo get the guacamole. They make it right in front of you and it is seriously delicious. The service here is great too.

I like my city of monrovia! so many cute little hole in walls and a good example of that would be Los Gueros!. I have to quote George Bush senior "Read my lips--no more taxes"--My turn "FRESHLY MADE GUACAMOLE" and their nightly drink special for $0.99 coronas, pia coladas, margaritas" cant go wrong with that. About their food--good enough for what you pay for. Good taste, ok in presentation, but it is one of those place in you live in monrovia or nearby worth the stop! my recomendation--carne asada and their sopa de albondigas! yum!

  • Jason G.

I work just around the corner from Los Gueros, but I hadn't been there in about 2 years. I went back today for lunch and, just to try something different, ordered a big bowl of menudo. It was just amazing. Soooo tasty. If you haven't been there, and you like menudo, you must try it. They also have freshly made corn tortillas on Sat and Sun mornings until 2 pm, if you prefer to have your menudo then. Oh yeah, and they have 99 cent Corona and Pacificos on Monday, and 99 cent margs on Wednesday. I'll have to go back for dinner.

  • Andrea G.

I should have known from the name that this place would be geared towards a milder palate. That being said, I gave it a try anyway. I don't think this place was bad, just not the place to go if you like your Mexican food on the spicier side. I had the carne asada burrito which was fine, but in my opinion had too much lettuce in it. I saw the guacamole cart come out which is a very nice touch, but the couple that ordered it asked for no chiles and no cilantro. To me that defeats the purpose of guacamole. But to each his own! I also tried the chile relleno which also had no kick to it, was overbreaded and smothered in cheese. So if you like straightforward, mild americanized Mexican food, this is not a bad place to go. If you like spice and flavor, I'd skip it. (Sidenote: service was very good and the place was clean and cute.)

  • Rajiv P.

I like eating here only for LUNCH. For some reason it becomes super crappy at dinner, not really sure why. The carne asada burrito is HUGE, but I usually get enchilada verdes w/ chicken. I don't care for the chile rellano too much, but my sister orders it consistently. Fresh guacamole is hit or miss, sometimes its great, other times just mediocre. Fish taco's are also decent.

Warning* Stay Away from this place, food is overpriced and not worth it, your better off at Taco Bell!

  • chris j.

It was alright. We got a coupon for some guacamole and discounted dinner deal. That was probably the only reason we went there. The guac was good. They came and made it right at your table.. kinda cool. I had mole chicken which was just ok. The wife had a combo of some sort which she said was nothing to get excited over. I think that the biggest disappointment was that even with a coupon our meals with sodas cost us over $25. I won't be returning.

  • Peter L.

my menudo was disappointing. perhaps it was because i went there on a saturday at 4pm... i don't know. the bowl (itself) was a good size, however the portion was meager, skimpy (the ingredients and the broth servng). but, the broth had a good taste, and appear to have little or no fat present. the yelpers who gave this place 5 stars for their menudo, have they tried taco ready in covina, or ray's tepeyac, nick's taste of texas, or la tolteca? when it comes to menudo, i feel that it should come with feet (or on the side as an option). and because i went there at 4pm, i guess i missed the homemade tortillas, oh well. perhaps i should have gotten some fresh guacamole from the roll out cart. at least this way i could have been distracted from my menudo when the helper made the guacamole. for $6.95 plus tax and tip for a grand total of approximately $9.00 for a weak and tiny bowl of menudo, r u kiddin' me? time to move on. menudo served every day? it's too good to be true. on the plus side, the place was clean.

Went here with my wonderful gf on a Saturday night and we had a very pleasant time, having a cool brief demonstration on how to make fresh guacamole and eating moderately priced, but delicious Mexican food. The service was excellent. The waiters had great smiles on their faces and continually checked on tables to make sure everyone was attended to promptly. What's great is that we didn't have to wait on our chips and salsa (which is usually a pet peeve of mine)! The place is cheerful, cozy, and chillin'. Two thumbs up!

My bf has been raving about this place, so I made him take me here on a Monday for lunch. They have a special on Coronas on Mondays...for like $1.50 or so...was very tempted, but got coffee instead. Our waiter was pretty informative & friendly...recommended a lot of dishes I wasn't interested in. I ended up ordering the carnitas plate, & my bf ordered the enchilada & chile rellano combo plate, I think. of course we had to order the fresh guacamole! It was sooo good! Too bad my bf ate it all when I was busy "checking-in" on yelp. Our entrees looked delicious! But they tasted pretty bland...I had to add salt to my dish. My bf said that it was really flavorful before, but he also thought his dish was bland. Maybe some health-conscious person complained recently & messed up my 1st time experience for me! Oh well. I want to mention that I was pretty pleased with the restroom! It had a big window & I didn't need to smell what the previous patron had to eat. The bad thing was that both bathrooms were out of hand-soap. I liked how the decor had a lot of sun emblems...looked pretty sunny...j/k.

I have been going here since they first opened, originally as a convenient restaurant near my home and then just because I love the food. The service is great, and you can practice your Spanish with the staff. The original "White Boys" are the owners Jaime and Danny. Jaime isn't there anymore, but Danny is and remembers regular customers. It is one of the only places in town where you can show up at 7 on a Friday night and not have to wait for a table, but eventually this won't be the case. I've watched the clientele grow and grow. Another thing I like is the owner's commitment to the community. The restaurant sponsers local sports teams and donated money to my daughter's high school musical a few years ago. It's a great "hole in the wall" and you should definitely try it.

As my superhero name is Condiment Girl, naturally when I eat Mexican food my favorite part of it is the salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and the cheese. So of course I would LOVE a restaurant that has a guacamole cart roll up to your table, and make you fresh guacamole from their whole avocados adding ingredients and spicing it to your taste. It's oh so delicious! Everything here is great, from the chile rellenos to the tacos. They serve menudo everyday and the prices are extremely reasonable. The only problem is the sign telling you where the parking lot is located is on the door, so by the time you read it you've already circled the block 3 times trying to find parking. Good to know for next time.

This is a little hidden hole-in-the-wall along Huntington Dr. and the food is excellent! The decor is truly south of the border and gives you that feeling as you enter. My wife enjoyed the chicken enchiladas and I the Huevos a la Mexicana served to us by the son of the owner and he was very friendly as we chatted after breakfast. He was also very receptive to some minor recommendations we shared for the business. Pintoresco y muy Sabroso!

I wanted to like this place. It would've have saved me gas and mileage whenever I was craving artery clogging Mexican food, but alas . . . I will still need to trek on over to neighboring cities to get my fix. Nachos w Chicken- Shredded chicken? I guess I should have asked what kind of chicken was used. I would have been fine with shredded chicken if not for the pool of liquid sitting at the bottom of the plate. When they scooped the chicken, they scooped everything that was in the stewing tray...liquid and 2 whole bay leaves which were not appealing to find. It was just a bland soggy mess. Beef Burrito Combo- Shredded beef was okay, but again, everything was just soggy. They use red sauce, which was fine with the inside of the burrito was just a gooey mess of beans and meat. The beef looked like it was stewing too long and lost any texture. OH! and I found another delightful bay leaf. The was a $18.42 lesson learned. I ended up driving to Alfredo's in El Monte the next day.

Came to lunch today. First off it took forever to get seated so we decided to just sit at one of the many empty seats in this place. Secondly, it took 40 minutes to get our food so by the time we got our food it was time to go back to work and Thirdly, they ran out of Carne Asada!!! Who runs out of meat!!! I was told they were short staffed today!!!! I won't be referring this place to my co workers..

This is a great Mom and Pop sit down Mexican restaurant. Whenever I want Mexican this is the spot. My favorites are the chimichanga and enchilada ranchera. Margaritas are really good as well and fairly priced.

    (5)
  • Donna S.

Very small little place with a very warm and friendly server. They have different specials everyday like $1.75 pina coladas on Wednesdays, and Margaritas on Thursdays, etc. I see that everyone is wowed by the novelty of making the guacamole in front of you. But I have been watching relatives and myself make guacamole all my life, so I really don't need to see it. Just bring it to me, make sure you don't screw it up by adding sour cream or leaving out the cilantro, and don't charge a stupid price for it. I really only have come here when a friend has one of their BOGO coupons. The typical menu selections that you find in the usual American Mexican food places. The food is kinda bland and nothing has ever wowed me, so I don't come here on my own. But its edible. Nachos are always safe. Hard to screw that up, but I have still had better and more flavorful, elsewhere. 2.5. It's just ok. Not A-ok.

We ordered take out for dinner. Didn't know what to get so we ordered 3 of each kind of soft taco -- beef, chicken, pork. They came with chips, salsa, and we ordered a side of guacamole. The seasonings were bland, the meat was tough, and the chips were sort of rancidy smelling/tasting. I don't think we'll be getting food from there again. This was probably the 4th or 5th time I've had food from there and I am just not going to do it again.

I went there for the first time and I have to say I just love this place. Great service and good food. I tried the menudo that came with fresh homemade tortillas. This is my new go to place for Mexican Food.

  • Paul M.

Always forget how much I like this place. Yeah, the whole guacamole prepared at the table might SEEM gimmicky, but hey, it's a DELICIOUS gimmick, so why not?! (Now if only they can think of a way to set the guacamole on fire, like a Bananas Foster!) Chips come hot and fresh from the kitchen. As does a certain flirty server with a really nice smile. Maybe if I had downed a third margarita, I would have asked his name. Speaking of the margaritas, they are pretty decent, as is the food, but really, the best thing about the place is the extremely friendly service and the chill, pretend-like-you're-on-vacation-and-not-in-Monrovia, vibe.

This is one of the very few Mexican restaurants that i really enjoy. The carnitas are always cooked to perfection. The staff is always very nice and very helpful. And the guacamole is made at your table side. Even though i am moving out of the area, I will continue to visit this restaurant just because of the staff and food. Keep up the great work!!

  • Adriana K.

A small place, but really good. The friendly service and food quality are consistent. I love their fresh - made at the table - guacamole...especially since I don't like a lot of the add ins (I don't eat spicy) and I can see exactly what's in it. The chips are hot from the kitchen. The hard shell tortillas are made there, not from a box, albeit a bit greasy. The soft shrimp taco was exceptionally tasty. The margaritas are fantastic too. I first heard about it through an Entertainment Book coupon, but have been coming back for years since. Try it!

Ok so I really don't like leaving bad reviews on places but I feel like I have to warn people out there about this place. I live in Monrovia and always drove by this place. Even though I read the reviews on yelp, some good some bad, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out a couple of weeks ago. We are both Mexican so we know what Mexican food should taste like. Other than the friendly waitress and tasty table side guacamole, we were sadly not impressed. First, their margaritas tasted like they had cheap tequila or margarita mix u buy from the store. I got a headache after only one. We went on a wed so they were half price which was nice but by far the worse drink ever. My boyfriend ordered a coke but they only had Pepsi (not the same). The waitress recommended the chicken and spinach enchiladas which my boyfriend ordered and he said were ok. Beans and rice did not taste authentic at all. I ordered the carne asada enchiladas and the meat was unseasoned and the red sauce tasted like the sauce that is used on the enchiladas served at hometown buffet...really not good! And well I guess what makes it worse is that we paid $50 including tip for a meal that we were not satisfied with at all. Sorry, but will never be visiting this place again.

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. Chips & salsa is addicting, and the food is always delicious. My friend & I ordered drinks the last time we were here and they were great! Customer service is always great here too. Very home-y, authentic feel to the place. I'll always come back.

First time here , very clean and cozy place, the waiter and waitress were very attentive , chips very fresh, salsa perfect , we try the fresh guacamole and omg!!! It was delicious I had a shrimp cocktail and this cocktail was delicious my husband had chicken enchilada and the soft taco asada everything tasted very very very fresh.....I will definitely be coming back

Very friendly staff but their food was not all that. My Chileaquiles were delicious but my sister was eating egg shells I that were still left in her scrambled eggs. My mom orders chiles rellenos and they looked more like small stuffed serrano Chiles. I was in shock to see how small they were. The lemonade was decent, my fiancé had their burrito and it was huge! But for 11 dollars, not so much.

Stopped by yesterday and was not happy with this place, should've left when my friend who loves Mexican food pointed out how runny the salsa was. It looked like cut up tomatoes in water..... The food was not very tasty either it lacked flavor. I ordered a combination plate enchilada and chili relleno. It lacked flavor and lots of it. I won't return nor do I recommend it.

This restaurant has always been a favorite of my friends and family and again did not disappoint. I recently went with a few friends to get Los Gueros signature table side guacamole, which is probably favorite in all of SoCal. It is always fresh and I have always greatly enjoyed the other dishes I have ordered, especially the huevos rancheros. Los Gueros is an excellent and inexpensive Mexican restaurant

This is a pretty good Mexican place for the area. There tableside guacamole is really good. Their burrito is huge. I got the carnitas burrito and couldn't even finish half. There's shrimp cocktail is really good as well . The tamales were not bad at all. Their portions at this restaurant are really good. It is usually not very busy and located close to the Santa Anita mall. I have been here a few times and each time the food has been pretty consistent.

We usually have the burritos and they are always delicious. Customer service has always been really good and it's plus when the BOGO coupon comes out in the Monrovia Weekly. We have been coming here for at least 5 years and will continue on. Take a chance on this hole in the wall.

Gotta love little hole in the wall places. The chips and the pico de gallo were delicious! I ordered a triple threat: taco, tamale, and enchilada and they were delicious. The beef in the taco was so flavorful and so tender! I really, really hope they make the tamales in house because they were pretty good because the pork was NOT at all dry. The prices were good and the boyfriend and I stuffed ourselves.

This is the best place to get table side guacamole. The staff is friendly and attentive. Love coming to this hidden gem in monrovia.

New customer of Los Gueros here sending mucho love and gratitude. Mom & Pop feel and the table side guacamole is excellent. Have been three times now and it just keeps getting better! Excellent margaritas too!

One of my family's favorite restaurants for satisfying our cravings for Mexican food. We would go every week if we could! On our first visit there, the waiter, Pedro (if I remember his name correctly) was happy to accommodate my vegetarian daughter's requests for veggie tacos - and he made sure they were made just the way she likes. The fresh guacamole is made table-side so you can have it made how you want. When we are lucky, my husband scores homemade tortillas with his dinner. But they are so good, sometimes they run out by the evening! We don't get in as often as we would like lately, but even still, as soon as we walk in we are treated like rock stars! The waiter remembers our orders-drinks and all, and the busboy (wish I could remember his name!) rolls out the cart to make our fresh guacamole. Don't let the hole-in-a-wall appearance fool you. This place has good food, friendly staff and there even is a coupon to be found online for up to $9.00 off on a second meal! This gringa highly recommends becoming a "regular" at Los Gueros. ;)

You cannot leave this restaurant without trying their freshly made guacamole!! Yup, you order and they come to your table with a little cart filled with ingredients, and made it from scratch in front of you. Few minutes later, waalaaa~ the most delicious guacamole!! We had to ask for second basket of chips. Well, when it comes to other food, I wasn't really impressed. They're just ok. I had the fish taco + pork tamal plate, comes with beans & cheese & rice. The tamal was a bit dry on the outside. The fish taco does not have lots of flavor. My friends ordered the fajita combo (chicken and beef), and the beef taco + enchilada plate. We came here to celebrate their belated birthday, so a few margaritas, which according to them, not bad. I do have to give credit to our serves, both the guy and girl are super friendly and nice.

What is there to say about Los Gueros? Nothing good as far as food. The server was very nice however. The rice and beans were bland, the cheese enchilada was cold, it had a refrigerated taste, the chile relleno was the absolutely worse I've ever tried in my life. The salsa and chips were below average, bland tasting salsa/pico de gallo. I'll likely never go back to this place because there are better Mexican restaurants nearby.

It's a hole in the wall, but the fresh homemade guacamole and great food will knock your socks off. Handmade tortillas cooked on premises for weekend breakfast. They will go as mild or as spicy as you want so no fear for gringos. The place is not fancy but is my go-to place for sit down Mexican fare like it is supposed to be. Wait staff are great and know me so I just sit down and they know what I want.

We only went here because of the bogo free coupon in the Arcadia magazine. The chile verde burrito was awesome but the beef fajitas were terrible and the carnitas were fried to a crisp. There margaritas are made with wine so they will give you a super bad headache. They are overpriced and mediocre. I would only come here again for the burrito and with the coupon.

Hate to give negative reviews but this place was awful. Has the whole in the wall feel with chain sit down prices. To start the chips and salsa are very bland, but then again its free so no biggie there. I ordered the carne asada wet burrito and my girlfriend got the carne asada taco plate. The meat was beyond salty and fatty, I couldn't even taste the meat flavor. Beans and rice were ok and three guacamole was the only good thing I had. The service was fine, but the fact that I had to force myself to eat 1/3 of that burrito just so I didn't completely waste my money will keep me from ever returning to this place.

This place is pretty bad. The prices are high, the portions are kind of small and the quality is very low. The food tasted bland, dull and like it came from a can and a freezer. I didn't try the guac everyone is raving about but smothering a disastrous enchilada with great guac or on bland rice and beans wouldn't save it in my book. I love Mexican food and I know Mexican food. I have eaten at dozens of places in Mexico and a number of outstanding places in the states and this place is one of the worst I have ever tried. There are places near by where you can get better quality, lower prices and bigger portions and this isn't even a good area for Mexican food. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the service was very good and I didn't get food poisoning, so that's something right?

Four stars because of the fresh guacamole that they make right in front of you. The food is good for the most part, nothing extremely extravagant and it doesn't remind me of my grandmother's cooking BUT considering the location, it's definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants around. Been here about 4 times, I stick with the tacos and the tacos are a great size. Cost is as expected, very friendly staff. I recommend this place if you're interested in decent Mexican food.

I love trying new restaurants. I love it even more when it's at a discounted rate! So when I got a voucher from restaurant.com for this place and saw that it had decent reviews from Yelp, I figured "why not?" STAFF: 5-STARS Very friendly. My glass of water was never empty. Didn't give me a funny look when I asked for my sauce to be on the side or when I busted out my restaurant.com voucher. GUACAMOLE: 4-STARS First off, I hate avocado. But when she rolled out her little cart and made fresh guacamole right in front of me, I just had to try it. And I'm glad I did! It was so creamy! But at $6.. Hmmm... FOOD: 2.5 STARS Ordered the crab omelet. Maybe it's my own bad. I mean.. who goes to a Mexican restaurant and orders that right? But I was feeling breakfast-y / seafood-y. Would I come here again? Sure, but probably not without one of those coupon vouchers. And when I do, I would definitely pick something more Mexican-y! xD

I learned a lesson yesterday, a very important one. Don't try something you know is not all that good in the first place. I'm talking about the Spanish Omelet, this wasn't normal for me anyway. I'm a taco guy, nothing more, nothing less. Very few restaurants use flour in there egg mixture. I know ihop does, and some other Breakfest food chains. I didn't even think about asking, until it was to late. I have celiac disease, which means I can't eat anything with flour or any kind of wheat products, corn flour is ok, that's the mine reason why I stick to tacos and grilled fish tacos. I'll get sick as a dog, for about 2 hours which comes with other problems, yes you need a bathroom pretty dame quick, about every 30 minutes sometimes less. The Spanish Omelet, looked great with cheese, salsa and peppers on top. It looked awesome, thick, chunky, stuffed with cheese, after about 4 bites I started felling a little full. I did mix the rice and the beans with the pico de gallo salsa. (pico de gallo salsa was one of the best I've had) with this a made spanish omelet tacos, wrong thing to do, very wrong at this point. I'll never cheat on tacos again, it's the one and only meal. I did under special circumstances made a deal with protein burgers and some asian foods. Spanish Omelet with rice and beans, ice tea $11.40 tip $3.60 Lasting effect of the meal all day and the fear of Spanish Omelets forever.

I have read the negative reviews and don't agree one bit with them. This place makes great, FRESH guacamole and the food is hot and tasty. Highly recommended.

Came to this hole in the wall restaurant just to give it a try. Wow I was really amazed the service was awesome and the food is delicious. Reviewers that give low ratings to this place are the people that go to acapulcos, EL toro, Guadalajara Grill.. and THINK they are eating authentic Mexican food. This place is definitely the real deal. I came with a party of 4 first timers to this place and all agreed this place is the bomb

I never need a reason to go to Los Gueros. Just hearing the mention of Mexican food leaves me craving it. The ambience is so quaint and festive. To get the full experience of how cute and awesome this place is, you have to order their guacamole (customizable, prepared table side) and delicious margaritas! I typically order their chile verde or carnitas, but I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong. I'm looking forward to going back to try their breakfast. Nommy nom!

I came here after being exhausted from a workout. I knew nothing would satisfy more than Mexican food. The complimentary chips and salsa were just okay. The salsa was on the watery side and needed to be more chunky. My michelada was a little sour but I still enjoyed it. I ordered the taquitos combination plate. The rice and beans were delicious. The taquitos were small and cut in half. I would preferred more sour cream and guacamole. The beef was marinated really well. The server was attentive and refilled my glass of water without me having to ask. Would I come here again? Probably not but I am glad I gave it a chance.

No, no, no... I was excited about this place because I had heard about their freshly made guacamole, but even that wasn't good. The food had no taste, my co-worker ordered a shrimp cocktail which instead of being cold like it should be it was warm. My chorizo burrito had no taste, it needed salt.

The Camarones a la Diabla plate SUCKS!!!! Wow, I got a to-go order and what a rip off! $12.95 and all i got was a plate of red sauce and onions with only FOUR, I repeat FOUR, baby sized costo frozen-style shrimp... The rice and beans were super small in portion as well and they were super greasy and nasty... I took one bite, and the rest was goin to the dogs... But even my dogs turned their nose at this sorry excuse for a $13 mexican food plate... They also over charged my order and the prices were not the same as they are on their online menu... Bad first and LAST experience here... sorry los Gueros

Yum! Guac yum! Hand made tortilla.. Yum! Service is wonderful...perfect, almost. Too full to make a dent in huevos con chorizo but that was flavorful too. Great find.

We are regulars here. We love the kid plates for our young boys - grilled chicken tacos served with rice and beans. We finish the table side guacamole in 2 minutes, its that good. Depending on the server making it, you might need to add salt and pepper. The menudo is an all time favorite. The only down fall is they have one size now and it's a little too big! They need to bring back the medium sized bowl. I love the chile relleno and my husband likes the grilled chicken tacos!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
