gosh darn this coffee was good. Ordered a velvet elvis like everyone said... Its rich, flavorful, and not too sweet. The barista accidentally put expresso whipped cream but it was better that way! Everyone was so friendly and the coffee so good I had to go back for seconds. The cold brew is delicious also; it was perfect- not too acidic or bitter, and I didn't even need to add cream or sugar. A must! ps the bagels are good too
After spending the night at Tuolumne Meadows Lodge in Yosemite, we needed access to WiFi for work and decided to head into Mammoth over going into Yosemite Valley. Left at 0930, made it by 1025. Looney Bean is the first coffee shop after driving in to Mammoth in a little shopping center on the right. Free WiFi, outdoor seating available, and very sweet staff. We ordered a 16oz mocha w/o whip and a 16oz Americano. The cashier was courteous to ask if I needed space for cream, which I didn't need and also asked if we wanted whip for the mocha (which my husband declined). The place had a steady stream of people coming in for a late Tuesday morning. Solid 4 stars because my husband and I like our coffee a bit more stout. Easily opportunity for 5 stars on our next visit, when we'll order an extra shot in our beverages. Nice round coffee, earthy, cacao bean/super dark chocolate tastiness in the Americano, a hint of nutmeg in the mocha. Espresso was not acidic, not overly fruity. Maybe an Indonesian blend? It was right up our alley.
Hot coffee here is outstanding and so is the cold brew ice coffee. I am only giving 3/5 stars because my last visit they were out of cold brew for the 3rd time in a row and when asked what time I should come in for cold brew they said "I don't know" and followed up with "we should have some tomorrow, we might make it tonight". Come on... Don't have it on the main menu if you're not making it a consistently available product. Have it be a special or something if you want to pick and choose when you feel like making it. Ok so cold brew isn't always available but it is excellent when it is. So I ordered a regular ice coffee and yet again, regular it was. The normal ice coffee was very very weak. Added a splash of cream to it and it turned almost completely white. It tasted like coffee flavored water. I don't want to give this place a bad wrap because it's a great overall spot with mostly friendly staff, but that ice coffee wasn't a good example of quality. My girlfriend for an ice chai tea, and she's not one for strong drinks and even she said it might be the worst she's ever had because it was so weak. I tasted it and it was really watery. I am obviously a very small sample size but I would recommend sticking to hot coffee drinks and their cold brew when available as they definitely kill it in that realm. Their other cold drinks thus far have been pretty terrible.

authentic Austrian/Bavarian cuisine. excellent schnitzel, spatzle, red cabbage, chicken, pork, veal, beet salad and strudel. well prepared and seasoned, cozy atmosphere, warm service. bar in back is mountain casual, where locals and tourists mix. great beers, bar menu, cocktails, and a killer happy hour 5-7pm of beer, wine, drinks, pizza, spatzle, calamari, sliders, bar treats, salsa n chips., poke! mingle!t
We came for happy hour and enjoyed the wide selection of happy hour appetizer selections. While the price for these 'appetizers' are discounted, the portion size is plenty to satisfy us for a meal. My favorites were the panko crusted calamari steaks and the grass fed beef cheeseburger. The beet salad was also delicious. While we didn't try this time, I heard the poke salad is pretty authentic stuff. I took a peek at the dinner menu and was very impressed with the offerings. However, I will say be prepared to spend $50 - $80 for an appetizer, entree and a drink. I'm looking forward to trying out the dinner menu.
Delicious German/Austrian food! My favorite dish was the jaegerschnitzel. The sauce accompanying it was tasty and wonderfully rich with mushrooms. The wienerschnitzel was also good, although I personally preferred the other schnitzel. The filet mignon was well-made and had a delicious mushroom with blue cheese. However, the best part of the meal was the apple strudel. One of the best apple strudels I've ever had - even better than some of the ones in Vienna! I would come back to Mammoth just for that delicious apple strudel.

Wish we could have gone here for breakfast (since that is what this place is all about). My friends and I came here for dinner, it felt just right to have a nice country cooked meal after a long day of boarding. We ordered the country fried chicken (nothing special, just fried chicken) and the chicken fried steak (pretty dang good, esp. since there aren't many restaurants in CA that have it). It was slow on a Saturday night so the service was good. =)
Next time we are up in Mammoth, we will for sure return to this little gem. This restaurant was near our cabin so we decided to try it for a late breakfast. All the food was very tasty and home made. We had eggs, sausage, french toast, blueberry pancakes and waffles. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The pancakes had a lot of fresh blueberries cooked inside. My boy friend wanted to try the chicken fried steak but they didn't have any available as we heard it was a "must try"..... This place is a must when in Mammoth.
This is a really good breakfast place if you're in Mammoth, especially if your body feels like ten midgets have been repeatedly kicking you to the ground the night before. All I really remember is faint screaming "we're Little People, damn it!" Drinks are served in quaint mason jars and the eggs benedict provide mouth orgasms. Pancakes are tasty fluff and even the potato skillets are pretty good, though not usually my choice for breakfast. Many a cute snowboarder frequent this restaurant, though it is quite worthless when you're with your sig other.
