This place is barely visible from the outside -- tucked away in a strip mall; however, it is lovely and inviting on the inside. Everything about our experience here was excellent! The sushi was as good as it gets. The salmon and yellowtail nigiri were mouth-watering. The rolls were creative, beautiful and delicious. We didn't have a reservation on a Sat. night and the hostess sat us in about 5 minutes and thanked us for waiting. Service was excellent as well and the prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend trying this place out!

One of my favorite meals in OC. Ordered the Chilean seabass with sashimi and soup/salad. The seabass was one of the best cuts I've tasted and was extremely affordable for the amount of food given. The place was a bit small but we had a reservation and didn't have a wait.

Before I went to O Fine, I was skeptical about the 4.5 stars reviews they received on yelp. I was judging it by the non-so asian restaurant name. And I was thinking to myself that nobody would know asian food better than a asian. But I was so wrong. This place is well-deserved the ratings! On the first bite of the salad, I was surprised by the freshness and authentic taste. Then when my sushi and sashimi plate was served, I am totally a believer! They serve the best quality sushi I have ever tasted in US. The restaurant is very clean, the service is good, the food was authentic and the price was reasonable. I can't ask for more. I sent an email to my friends upon my return from the restaurant. One of my friends went and tried out the next day and she was surpised by the quality of food and awesome taste! We are happy that we finally find a place closeby and doesn't cost us a fortune. The most important---the food is superb!

I have to laugh at the people who criticize this place for its trendy decor... the decor is such a minor feature of this restaurant! I find it bizarre that anyone would take careful note of its material construction, its a restaurant not an architectural work of art. We love O. The price is great, especially for Laguna, like Goko this is one of the places to go to when trying to find local eats that won't break the bank. I don't eat fish, so I get the garlic beef cooked rare, its is my personal favorite, and for 13.95 it comes with MIso and Salad. Add to that a cup of complimentary Green Tea and its a great dinner. Their salmon is " to die for" according to my Fiancee who rates it favorably over Wasa, Sanshigo, Hapi, Abe, Laguna Sushi, 243 Fushion, Gen Kai and many others on the peninsula. We really like O. its small, but not crowded, the wait staff are friendly, attentive and cordial, and the food is delicious.

We went to 'O' around the time the place opened. The place had very fresh fish, and many of the entrees had a good twist to them. It wasn't anything great. location is kind of small so had to wait a bit...

this is my favorite place for sashimi. :) The freshwater salmon I've ever had raw was at this location. My boyfriend took me here randomly after seeing it on yelp when we were hanging out at laguna beach nearby. The restarant is in the same plaza as the albertsons supermarket so that made me think weirldly about the place at first but I'm glad we decided to give it a try. It was a weekday so it wasn't very busy at all and we were seated right away. For appitizers we had the miso soup and salad with miso dressing. Yum. For an entree we had the seafood dynamite and it was very tasty with lots of scallops in it. We also got salmon, tuna, and yellowtail sashimi with were just melt in your mouth not fishy at all good. we also git the o roll which was differt fish and caviar with crab meat wrapped in cucumber rolls. I little much cucumber but good amount of everything else to balance it out. No soy sauce needed for the rolls here. Yum. The decor reminds me of tribe cuz of the blue lighting inside. Since then we've been here twice and on the weekends its a little bit of a wait since it can get really crowded to where people just start ordering to go. Prices are around $20 for dinner entree and sashimi. Specialty roll about $15.

Came here on my first night staying in Laguna Beach and it was DELICIOUS!! I loved the Chilean Sea Bass Misoyaki. The Crunch Red Dragon Roll and Garlic Beef were good too. Service was excellent. They checked on us several times.

I was astounded when I saw the rating for this place. I ate here twice and was not impressed at all. The trendy decor inside might lure people, but I thought the sushi was extremely lacking. Any roll that comes with "crab" in it really comes with imitation crab, if you want real crab meat you have to pay extra. This is ridiculous for a place that is already serving expensive rolls. I never tried any of the entrees here, but if you are looking for good sushi, save your money and go downtown to Hapi Sushi where you get delicious rolls made with real crab.

  • Andrew D.

This place was awesome. Small, but classy. I had the Chilean Sea Bass (not the grilled or steamed... the last one that's marinated in the special sauce--I can't remember the name of it!), and the tuna roll. The sushi didn't impress me too much, but the sea bass was awesome! The plate came looking well prepared, the vegetables were delicious, and the fish was super tender and full of flavor. I'd recommend it to anyone!

  • Melanie B.

One star for a cool sushi bar counter. Sushi itself did not at all seem fresh. The salmon sashimi had an oily sheen on it that left ribbons of blue slick in the soy sauce. Spicy tuna roll had a nice kick, but fish was gooey and losing consistency (spoiling?). Worst, Philadelphia Roll truly tasted like a dirty dish rag -- mildewy and FUNKY. Best case scenario: the cream cheese had gone bad. Worst case, avacado, seaweed, or fish itself had rotted. Go to Taka O for much better sushi, or Dana Kai, for a far second.

Wow, this place is simply AMAZING. The fish is out-of-this-world-fresh. I'm blown away, and I'm not easily blown away. Had the dinner entrees as well as the Sashimi a la carte. The Beef Steak and the Lamb Chop Are amazing. We starts with 2 different appetizers, and they are usually different, depending on what is the most fresh and available. We had the absolutely new dish called the Hamachi Rib... OMG... it is soooo good, and yes.... I'm definitely going back whenever I can! The chef doesn't speak much English, but he tried to give us an intro every time he served something on the serving tray, and he served them one or two at a time - the perfect cadence contributes to a fabulous dining experience. We were served about 15 different types of fish, and the ones I can remember were: Toro Hamachi Sake and more Sake... Aji Albacore Premium Uni (Sea Urchin) Unagi And many more that I can't recall now... Oh, and when we were about 3/4 done, the chef looked at me, went, "still ok?", "yeah, for sure!" I went, and he delighted me by going, "ok then, 2 more!" I was in glee, and so very stuffed! One last thing. After we left the restuarant, chatting outside and waiting to get in our car, the cute waitress ran out with my IPhone and Cartier sunglasses screaming, "Sir, you left your things!" Guess I was so blown away by the meal I forgot my stuff! Honest peeps, wonderful fish, authentic experience. I'm sold. Will be back for sure.

Both the servers and the food are great. Our favorites are the special spicy sashimi salad and the special sea food, chicken, noodle and soup. (Can't remember the name of this one.) The waiters always remember us and what we usually order, are very attentive and sincere. (No "my name is Ben and I'll be your waiter tonight.") The decor is attractive, trendy and yet comfortable.

This place is great. The Spicy Tuna on crispy rice is probably the best ive had, anywhere [including those trendy and not so trendy places in la/oc]. the extra spicy tuna handroll in soy paper is bomb. Their yellowtail belly sashimi or sushi is cut way tooo thick and i believe they put too much rice with their sushi but their fish is fresh and satisfying. Many of the rolls are good, but i like sticking to plain ol sushi when i go to O. The sushi bar is great, the chefs r kind and great at suggesting whats good. (kinda their job). I use to go to San Shi Go in Laguna but now that ive found O i have no return n dont plan to. O puts San Shi Go to shame. truly. Highly suggest going to O and sitting at the sushi bar. Make Reservations bc it gets busy on the weekends nightly.

  • Kristine C.

Love this place! We've become weekly regulars for a small helping of sushi without much pressure to order so much that we wouldn't eat. Our favs include a tuna roll, spicy tuna hand roll, crunch roll and beef yakatori as an appetizer. If we're super hungry we'll order the mixed tempura. I absolutely LOVE this O for not using that spicy MAYO--YUCK! They spice it up with the oil which makes for a nice spicy tuna hand roll. The servers are great. The owner is always in the dining area at night. It's small and intimate with great decor. In addition, they play Frank Sinatra which is an ode to the modern and sleek decor. The fish is always fresh and I have never ordered anything that I didn't like. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for some fresh sushi without all the trendy hype. Servers and sushi bar guys are totally cool, welcoming and nice! Oh and I just tried the Albacore Tataki which is absolutely fresh and delish! Slightly seared and good portioned slices. A must do in Laguna Beach. They have the best and friendliest service you won't feel intimidated if you're a tourist :) Tips: 1) Due to limited seating you may have to wait for a table. Best times to go are lunch and after 8PM on a Fri/Sat. 2) Another FAB item is their "TNT" Roll! It's a spicy tuna roll topped with seared ahi tuna and avocado and fresh thinly sliced onions accompanied with a ponzu mustardy sauce-OMFG! Soooooo good! It's a spicy tuna roll upgraded to first class. Oh, thank you O for being a little hidden gem!

I owe these guys the 5 stars which is clearly my opinion as I visit them 2, 3, even 4 days in a row. I am the guilty as charged duke of this joint and I live in LA! The TNT roll and the toro are to *DIE* for.

This is a great new sushi restaurant. My parents are obsessed. It is in a location that isn't great for tourists but is great for locals living in southern Laguna. The food is consistently great. We really liked the Poke Nachos and the King Crab roll. The chefs are great with presentation and everything comes out looking beautiful! Another thing to note that my parents really appreciate is that they serve your beer in frosted mugs, which makes the beer even better. Also, if you are a regular customer here you can buy a massive bottle of sake and they will hold it for you in back so you can drink from it whenever you visit. Overall, the trendy modern atmosphere is pretty cool and the food is delicious and beautiful!

  • Natasha P.

What I love most about O is that they use fresh crab meat in all of their rolls... no mysterious hot pink, mayo-y crab substitute. Knowing that, we ordered the spider roll and the crab roll. Both were delicious! I was wee bit creeped out by the different colors of caviar that topped each crab roll but I got past that. The agedashi tofu, tempura, and udon were all pretty standard and tasty. All in all, a very satisfying meal.

  • Ben M.

This place was absolutely excellent! Granted - I am from Colorado and you could argue that being more then a thousand miles from an ocean I have no idea what good sushi.... But - I think I do - and this place has excellent sushi! We had the summer roll, red dragon, and an o roll. All were very good, and the service was equally impressive. I highly recommend this place to others. Prices were very fair - I was anticipating a much larger bill.

This is a hidden gem inside a strip mall with super market. They offer authentic Japanese cuisine. I loved the Uni sushi, scallop sashimi and Nabeyagi udon. It was also to my surprise that they have tasty rack of lamb. It really is a pleasure to take a walk down beautiful Laguna beach after enjoying great dinner with the chill and chic ambience of the restaurant.

We are regulars and love the people and the Sushi! Staff are friendly and attentive and the Sushi is some of the freshest I have ever eaten. This place is awesome and for the last year and a half it has been giving us our sushi fix on a weekly basis. Everyone I have taken there ends up going back. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

This place would be my #1 recommendation for a sushi restaurant. They are all about presentation! You would think that it would take a whole lot of time to prepare such an amazing, beautiful, and delicious plate of sushi but they actually come out pretty darn quickly! The atmosphere is pretty cool especially the sushi bar area. The table is set up with blue lights under a crystalized-like layer which makes it seem like you're dining in the ocean haha. The best roll I had that night was the "O roll" inside was yellowtail, salmon, snowcrab, avocado, and asparagus wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber, topped with plenty of caviar! Sure felt like an orgasm in my mouth...I also had the Lobster Crunch roll which came out decorated with the lobster tail on the side. The main thing I love about this place is that they don't fill your sushi with the imitation crab crap...They actually use real snowcrabs. Also, the lobster is from an actual lobster...not some cheapy baby lobster that most sushi joints use. This place is a bit pricier than most sushi places but it is definitely worth it because of the quality, taste, freshness, and presentation. Their service is also spectacular. Sushi chefs were on the dot. They make the rolls according to the pace you eat so that you don't have to wait a long time for the next dish and you aren't overwhelmed by a bunch of dishes in front of you either. I love this place!!!

This place is "O-mazin!" We moved to Laguna Beach at the time they first opened. They are consistently improving their menu. The quality of the fish is great. The Shimatara (spelling?) is fantastic and citrusy. The service is awesome, the owner knows us by name and let us take a set of her sake glasses just the other night ! We will be returning them out of guilt, lol! The prices are not great but not bad. Always sit at the bar and treat your chefs to a drink...It always goes along way!

Great sushi and staggering distance to my house. Friendly staff, we showed up 30 minutes before they closed at 2:30. Never felt rushed. Cool inside vibe, you don't feel like you are in a strip mall.

Delicious, friendly, great service! The king crab roll is as good as everyone says and you must order it. Their other sushi and cooked items are equally great -- well-prepared, lots of attention to detail, very fresh. The decor is also outstanding. We went twice in 2 days on a recent trip to Laguna. Don't miss this place!

What a wonderful dining experience! The service and food was exceptional. The price was very reasonable as well, for dinner we had the mixed tempura and Terriyakai salmon. Both entrees were wonderful. The portion size was just perfect! We plan to come back again next time we are in town.

  • Yi Shun L.

Full disclosure: The resteraunteurs are my cousins. I've eaten at all of their previous spots in Irvine and am constantly impressed by their sense of perfection, but O raises the bar. Everyone within striking distance of Laguna Beach must pay a visit to the absolute joy that is O. We ordered both sushi items and cooked entrees, and were ecstatic over all of it. On my sushi plate were albacore tuna, salmon, and uni pieces, and we had the kobe steak and chilean sea bass dishes as well. My dining partners had udon noodles, tempura dishes, and the spicy tuna platters. We capped it all with their baked lobster roll. People. All. of. it. was. amazing. Seriously. Like, right down to the edamame apps and the perfectly brewed green tea. Y'know how edamame can be served soggy, cold, or imperfectly salted? Yeah, that doesn't happen here. But that's just the small bits. The fish is the freshest I've ever had, and we eat at a lot of sushi joints. Richard, the chef, does something with the spicy tuna roll that elevates it far beyond mere tuna-ness. The Chilean Sea Bass was sublime, and I'm one of those annoying environmentalists who thinks sustainable eating is the way to go. The kobe beef? Perfectly grilled, big flavorful crystals of sea salt. Let us not speak of the uni. It was a transcendent thing that honestly must just be experienced. They have Sapporo on draft, served in big frosty mugs and pitchers. We tried the yuzu sake and it was like candy: More, more, more, please! We ended with the chili-spiced plum wine, and with a nice glow in our bellies, wobbled out to the car to drive home on PCH. Lovely, lovely eating. I've said nothing about the atmosphere of the place. It's fabulous, back-lit by blue light and terrific details. Feels like a lounge, eats like a first-class restaurant.

I like it when you can try a place based on a Yelp recommendation. We went to O for an early dinner on Valentines. Took the wife and two kids. We didn't have any intentions on dinner out but it was such a beautiful day. We went to the beach that afternoon and just didn't want to cook. Pulled up Yelp on the blackberry and put in sushi. We were at Aliso beach and I read the reviews. Twenty minutes later we were eating fantastic sushi. My wife is very picky when it comes to her sushi and likes a spicy tuna hand roll. She gave O two thumbs up on the roll. We also had the Sashimi roll, the O roll, and the TNT roll. All very good. The service was very nice. We have two kids under 10 and they were very attentive to us. We would go back.

Read about this place on yelp, and on a recent business trip, decided to try it. I was not disappointed. The fish was very fresh, the rolls were innovative and tasty and the service was phenomenal. I was there at about 7pm on a Thursday night and even though the restuarant is fairly small, there was available seating. I like that it's tucked away in a strip center - makes it more of a destination that is worth seeking out. There were many locals (from Laguna Beach) in the restaurant which speaks highly of the consistency and high quality of the food. I suggested they open one in Boston. Definitely plan to make it a must-do on my yearly trips to CA. I had the O-roll (a signature dish without rice) and because the fish was outstanding, I ordered pieces of sashimi/nigiri. Finished with a light, slightly chilled Pinot Grigio - excellent dinner!

  • N M.

They have good food here, not really $$ though, it's pretty expensive. but the problem is the atmosphere, its so not welcoming and so not warm! it's like a kindergarden, so small and loud. I wouldn't go back here at least not on a weekend night.

    (3)
  • Elaine L.

I am a huge sashimi and sushi fan.I read a lot of the reviews on yelp and decided to try this place out. The yellowtail sashimi and the sashimi roll was fresh and delicious. Didn't care for the scallop dynamite with king crab or the misoyaki Chilean sea bass. I don't know if the service was slow or they just aim to serve one dish at a time. The server definitely forgot to place in our order for the dynamite dinner. We had already been there for an hour. The server felt so bad he opened up a small bottle of champagne, on the house. Also, a lot of items on their specials menu were not available....being it was a Tuesday night its understandable. They are a bit on the pricey side where 5 pieces of yellowtail sashimi is $15, but it was worth it. All in all, I would actually give this place 3 1/2 stars, but I'll give the extra 1/2 for the freshness of the fish. I'd only go back on a special occasion like tonight...my birthday.

Went for lunch. My wife had an plate of sushi which was just excellent; nice size servings, impeccably fresh, and perfectly prepared. I had a bento box with cooked fish, tempura, sashimi, salad, vegetables, soup and rice. All was delicious. Each dish was $13. Service was warm and friendly Interior was contemporary but inviting. Five stars for a fantastic value!

While I was on a weekend getaway in Laguna Beach (made popular by MTV), I was craving some good sushi. Searching yelp for great sushi places turned up O Fine Japanese. It was a bit easy to miss since it's hidden away in a shopping plaza right across the street from the Montage Resort. It was quite the gem of the plaza. The sushi was amazing and very fresh. The bake lobster roll is the dish to get. It seemed like right after we ordered it, they went out to catch it out of the ocean and prepared to plate it. You can't go wrong with anything else on the menu, if you're a fan of miso soup, make sure you get the miso soup with clams, it's the perfect balance of miso and saltiness. If you're looking for a sushi spot in Laguna Beach, this is the place to go. The name of this spot should be renamed to be O SOOOO Fine Japanese Cuisine.

This place is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Laguna area and its only about 2 min away from the beach. The atmosphere is so cozy and intimate, and the interior décor is brilliant. The quality of food is exceptional - fresh fish plus creative menu and entrees. We enjoyed every bite of it. The restaurant also offers an impressive sake and wine selection and it's reasonably priced. Service was professional and attentive. It was an excellent dining experience and we are definitely going back!

This is the best sushi spot in Laguna Beach and probably all of southern OC. The price is right, the service is great, and the quality is excellent. 242 has its own distinct offering, but for high quality sushi at affordable prices there is nothing better than O. If not for the hidden location, this place would be packed every night.

I've worked and eaten in sushi restaurants in Japan and the USA. Nothing can beat the freshness of sushi and sashimi in Japan but O Fine is definitely a cut above your average Japanese restaurant in SoCal. Reasonably priced, generous portions and very fresh fish. This place is right up there at the top with Shin Sushi in the south Orange County area. You will not be disappointed if you want fresh sushi and sashimi.

Use to be a favorite of mine. Under new management. Beware, ITS NOT THE SAME at all! Still ok, by taste of food, the service is lacking. They just need major training in the art of Japanese cuisine. If they don't fix it, I will not continue to come here. Dennys quality service experience. They are super nice, but not the same as real Japanese servers.

I came here due to the reviews already on Yelp, and I'm glad I did. I had some of the best sushi ever. Granted, everything I had was cooked, but they were so huge I didn't have room for more. I started with the Avocado Volcano, which was an amazing combo of avocado, crab, and scallops. I followed up with the Baked Lobster roll. So good! The baked lobster that topped the roll was baked perfect, and the roll it topped was also delicious. After those I didn't have room for more. I wish I lived close so that I could come back and try more. I will definitely plan another visit if I happen to be in the area again.

This sushi bar is definitely one of my favorite spots to go to whenever I'm in the area. The place is hip but tasteful, making it perfect for dates as well as families. The service is excellent, the food is presented very well and everything I have tried was delicious! They have generous portions for the most part, unlike many sushi bars nowadays. I recommend their baked green mussels as well as their albacore belly sashimi. It's located in a shopping center so it's easy to miss but parking is no trouble at all.

Went here a while ago and can't remember much except that I was impressed by their rolls. Loved the real crab. Was surprised at how small the place was; I remember it being cramped, but then they moved us to a bigger table. I remember loving the rolls and wishing I wasn't with my fiance's parents so that I could pig out and not be embarrassed. Haha...yeah...Oink oink =(

went here 4 times when in Laguna for a week. dinner three times and lunch once. it is our go to when we are here and aren't staying someplace with a kitchen because everything is so fresh and light. Our girls love to share Udon and tempura. the udon broth here tastes a little different, better, than run of the mill. the sashimi is quite good too! staff is great too.

We went for lunch and ordered the bento boxes. I ordered the salt and pepper salmon and it was honestly the best salmon I have had in forever. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate and green tea mochi ice cream to split, it was a good small treat, perfect to share.

I love O Fine. I have not been within the past month due to a hectic schedule, but normally go once a week if not more. From day 1 the staff has all been very inviting and the service has been outstanding. The sushi chef's are engaging but not overwhelming. My favorite dish is the tuna tataki sashimi. I live within walking distance which makes for a good excuse to enjoy some Sake, and they have a nice selection of sake as well. I'm yet to be let down by O Fine. Happy Eating.

I went to this Restaurant for my Birthday. Made reservation for 7 ladies to join me. The food was great!!! The service was horrid. I had the manager/owner? consistently asked me when was all my people coming.( I had 1 late arrival). Then that same lady come to me several times during the night, asking when were we leaving, because they had other people who wanted to come... One of my guest ordered Salmon, we asked 3 times for silverware. She had her food and no silverware for over 10 minutes. I had a Ice Cream Cake brought in earlier, and when we were ready for it, it took almost 20 mins to get it to our table, after asking over and over again. Once the cake arrived, it had already started to melt!!! The service was bad, the waitress were rude and I will probably not go back

I thought with the rating being so high on yelp, this must be the top sushi place in Laguna Beach. I was wrong. Maybe the standard in OC is a lot lower than Los Angeles, because there's no way a place like this would even get a 4 stars rating. I tried this place four separate times to get a good idea the overall quality. The decor was nice, especially the blue light sushi bar. The people were nice as well. I had tried almost every fish, and I have to say besides the salmon, everything was quite "fishy". The sushi was definitely over priced. I guess that is more Laguna Beach for you. You're better off sticking to just specialty rolls or cooked items, but not a place for premium grade sushi/sashimi. I would not go back again for the 5th time. Perhaps I'll try the new Katsuya that just opened to see if it's better.

I seriously wonder why this place has received so many good reviews.... Fish was FARRRRR from fresh. We actually took out some of the fish from the place because it was almost un-eatable.... We had 3 dishes. Not only the fish tastes bland, but also dishes are taste-less. Honestly 345(just few miles down PCH) is doing SO much better. By the way, why do you want blue lighting in a food establishment? I don't get it.

We decided to try this restaurant for lunch during our anniversary getaway. We were not disappointed. We had some of the best sushi we'd had in a long time. I'd love to back at night to get more of an evening vibe, but this was still a great spot for lunch. The service was friendly and prompt. But the sushi stole the show. We'll definitely be returning.

Pass CVS and Starfish, head towards Albertsons. O fine is located in the corner of the plaza store locations where Z Pizza is. We made reservations 30 minutes before arriving. When entering, the hostess asked if we wanted a table even though we made reservations and escorted us to a two seater booth table. The sushi menu is huge with a great variety of things. Ordered the: sweet shrimp sushi ($8.99) salmon sushi ($4.75) yellow tail sushi ($5.45) eel sushi (4.50) sashimi roll ($14.95) sunset laguna roll ($13.95) The sushi's were really good, the quality was superb.. I'm not usually a yellow tail fan, but I was actually surprised by the quality and taste from this place. I'll definitely be back here for my yellow tail. Everything else was great. The rolls came with four different caviar's. The black caviar which most sushi place use, the other three were the same type but different flavors. Yellow caviar was lemon flavored, green was wasabi, and I forgot the red/burgandy flavor. This place also offers a variety of food from sukiyaki (hot pot), teriyaki, and other things. My party didn't really look at the main menu. The service was the best! I would give this place a 6 out of 5 stars. Also, the most unique intriguing thing about O fine. It's Chinese owned. The first Chinese Japanese owned restaurant I know of in Orange County!! Most are either Japanese or Korean owned. I can't wait to come back here!

Delicious! Every bite. Had the albacore, eel and tuna sushi, salmon sashimi, and yellowtail handroll. Also had miso soup and it was all incredible. So fresh and tender. Absolutely phenomenal! I am super sushi picky this place it definitely in my top favorites and there are very few.

My first 5 star review. Simply the best sushi I've tasted. Fresh sashimi, outstanding service and a very clean restroom. Coworker and I found O on yelp and the were not mislead. We even waited 30 minutes for the restaurant to open. Started with Poki Nacho. Not the exact name but close. Crispy NON greasy won tons (looked like Mexican style chips) accompanied by a delicious combo of sashimi and krab with fresh avocado and pickled cuke. OMG!! I could have eaten more!! The red Dragon roll was scrumptious. We ate so fast, no time for pics. Next Business trip, O is on my return list!

Had dinner here recently. Never heard of this quaint Japanese restaurant before but trusted other Yelpers. One word: Fantastic! Service was impeccable. Great selection of saki, both hot and cold. Misu soup was good. Tried a fish (the name escapes me now) based on a recommendation by our waiter and it was probably the best tasting and most tender fish I have ever had. Sashimi was fresh and tasty. Ginger ice cream and green tea ice cream topped off a superb meal. A bit difficult to find. It's in the corner of a small mall--look for the large "O" on the markee. Definitely worth trying.

Probably one of the best sushi bars in OC. Fresh fish and amazing presentation of the food and rolls. Chic place, perfect for a date night. Only drawback is that it's pricey, but then again, it's Laguna!

We eat sushi pretty regularly. Everything was fabulous. From the house salad, to the Mushroom Miso Soup, to the blue fin toro and the 3 rolls we had; we were very pleased with the quality and freshness of the food (including the fresh ginger).

I've eaten there twice now at my wife's suggestion. Once was for dinner and the other was for lunch. Both were good meals and we would go back again. I'm not so much a sushi person but the couple items I tried I liked and the non-sushi food good too! Defeinitately worth a try!

I would give it 4.5 stars, if possible. Yes, the location is strange, but inside is a different story. We wanted to sit at the cool, blue-lit bar, but a table opened up and we were hungry. The servers were very, very, attentive. We ordered nigiri (average of $4.75 for a pair), the double double roll ($15), and the chilean sea bass miso yaki entree ($20). The entree was the best value, as it came with soup, salad, and your choice of brown or white rice and tempura or 9 pieces of sashimi. I chose the sashimi and they gave me three pieces each of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. The double double roll was delicious, and I had no complaints about the quality of the sashimi. The highlight, by far, was the chilean sea bass. So, so buttery. Even though we were in fancy-shmancy Laguna Beach, I was surprised that the hot tea was free. I hate when restaurants charge for that! Anyway, I'm a fan. It was a little expensive, but for the service, the quality of the food, the ease of nabbing a reservation, and the ambiance, it was worth it. Absolutely no complaints here! GO!

Miso soup - salty Staff - attentive but shy and soft spoken. Got friendlier towards the end of the meal. There was an older staff woman who seemed to be scolding the younger two staff - in the middle of the restaurant? Really? Salad - tons of dressing, tastes like thousand island but looks super watery, taste is fine. Waiter said it was miso flavor? Hmm. Nabeyaki udon has an interesting flavor, has some slight citrus? Ponzu? Has a poached egg in it, pretty nifty. Lots of veggies. 3.5/5. Sashimi was ok, not +/- Chicken katsu (+1.00 for white meat) was good, on the thin side, crispy. The thinness made it go colder faster. Pretty decent overall, just eat it quickly, 4/5. Steamed veggies were OK, not +/-. Ribeye sukiyaki was okay. 2.5/5. Didn't like the veggies inside (nabe especially) - seemed old? Cooked fresh veggies tend to have a slight crisp-mess even when cooked. Not sure what was going on, but it was just okay. They also offered Kobe beef and Kobe pork(???), but decided to save the +$5 for tempura ice cream. Portions were pretty good, 3 dishes between 3 people definitely had enough to share with leftovers (lunch for one). Tempura (greenice cream 4/5. Could have been crispier maybe? Crispier bits (there were a few edges) were definitely more yummy. This was the highlight of the meal though, but I guess you can't really mess up the flavor.

My boyfriend is a big sushi person. Myself, not so much. So I regard most sushi places with suspicion, as their hot food is generally not worth mentioning. However, O Fine had us both fat and happy by the end of the evening. We got there perhaps twenty minutes before they were about to close, and they greeted us with the kindness and enthusiasm afforded to, I imagine, all customers during the day. We sat at the sushi bar -- and can I just say how cool the lighting is there? The see-through glass plates are particularly clever, as everything is backlit by a calming, if not very bright, blue color. My boyfriend ordered the tuna, yellowtail, and flying fish sushi, and had the Hawaiian roll on top. I had the edamame, miso, and chicken gyoza. He tells me that the fish was good, with the tuna as the star, and that it was reasonably priced, but not the freshest he's ever had. For myself, I think edamame is pretty hard to get wrong, but the miso was very good and the gyoza was impressively light and tasty. So if you have a non-sushi eater in your group, this is a sushi place to bear in mind for their hot food as well. It's hard to say if dinner is the right time to go, as we came in right before they closed, but I would definitely recommend checking them out as a lunch destination.

A friend reccomended this restaurant when i inquired about a good sushi spot to tke a friend visiting for back east. O fine was slightly hard to find. It is in a rather large shopping center and is located in a back cornor. For about 5 minutes I was that annoyingly slow driver breaking through the parking lot trying to read each name on the buildings. Luckily we finally found it. Although smaller then I expected, the decor was very nice. We had made a reservation which turned out to be a good idea because they were very busy. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered a few rolls and some cold sake. The fish was freash and tasty and the sake was good. I especially liked the albacore sashimi and my friend enjoyed the eel. Overal I would reccomend this sot, and would defenitely dine here again in the future

This is considered top notch quality sushi and it's true, it's really hard to find a good place in OC.

Great little place. Wasn't too busy on a Tuesday night. Nice atmosphere, clean, fresh sashimi, good service. Had yellowtail, halibut, tuna, blue fin, snow crab, albacore, and miso soup. A decent little wines by the glass list as well. I think we had the Wildhorse red, good stuff. Will absolutely go back. One note on directions, mapping it didn't work well because the Apple map kept acting as though the place was in the Montage resort. The sushi joint is actually across the street in a long strip mall with an Albertson's and CVS. There is free parking and the place is in the far right back corner. Go check it out.

I was looking for a nice restaurant to take a date to and my friend took me here to scope it out. He worked a chef for the owner of this "chain" and told me that the quality was actually pretty good, so I gave it a shot. I'm glad he knew where it was, because I would definitely have gotten lost trying to find it if I went alone. It's in a small plaza with a couple other restaurants and a supermarket. It was a little hidden in a corner, so I knew I wouldn't have found it right away. The parking lot was appropriate for the size of the restaurants in that plaza. Aside from the supermarket, there was not too much traffic going in or out. Can't really complain about service when your friend works for the owners. They take care of their own very well. Apparently, after every work day the workers eat dinner together and just unwind after a hard day's work. This is what I got and recommend to you. Not too many places have the items that O Fine has to offer, so take advantage of the opportunities you have before you! Uni Shooter - Combination of sake, ponzu sauce, tabasco, smelt eggs, and sea urchin. You pound it all day together real quickly and it's got a nice burn to it. I had to try this, because I absolutely love sea urchin! It's definitely very interesting. It comes in a martini glass so it also makes you feel pretty fancy, and I'm all about that. White Tuna - It's so soft and smooth here. It's the first place I've ever had white tuna at and when I got it, it easily because a new favorite. I get it everytime I come. Toro - I get it whenever I go to sushi restaurants mainly to see where I can find the freshest batch. Sadly, this batch did not really catch my attention to much. Yellowtail Hamachi - Hadn't seen it on a menu before so I had to have it. If you're a fan of yellowtail, this is going to blow your mind! Take it back, BLAST your mind! It was a bit of a drive for me, but now that there is an Irvine location, I can get good sushi without the long anticipation!

O Fine is an intimate, cool restaurant bordering the beach. It is located in this mellow, small strip mall with the biggest store in there you'll recognize as Albertsons. We came here today right when they opened at 11:30, and it was great. The environment was clean and calm, and the service was exceptional. My server was friendly and paid a lot of attention to us without doing the hover. We ordered 2 beers on draft, a deluxe bento box, a 6-piece sashimi 5-piece sushi plate, and a side of mixed tempura for less than $50 pre-gratuity. That is definitely a deal, especially when the sushi is of good quality coming in thick slabs. At the end of our meal, our server asked us if we were locals. We told her that we're from Irvine, which isn't very far at all. She let us know that there will be an O Fine Japanese Cuisine opening up in Irvine by mid-March. Although the food is great and probably will be of the same quality at the new store, my heart kindda sank thinking about going to the Quail Hill plaza to eat this great sushi. To me, the ambiance of being in an intimate area by the beach increased my sushi appetite. Plus, the after-meal gelato and walk on the beach makes the dining experience so much more enjoyable. I'll definitely make a visit to the O Fine in Irvine to get a review in, but I would definitely make the drive to Laguna for the experience!

The food is not very authentic but tastes pretty good, not bad for a Korean owned Japanese restaurant. So often, non-Japanese owned Japanese restaurants serve questionable Japanese food, but this place seems to be an exception. I would give this place 4 stars but I'm giving 3 stars because when I get a takeout from here, there has been mistakes made a few too many times. One that I hate is when they forget to put any rice in it. How am I supposed to eat Japanese dinner without rice? I've called to complain but they pretty much always say "come back and pick it up" Really? As if I'm going to drive back to the restaurant to pick it up(it takes 15 min each way). The last time we tried to get a take out from here, we called at 9:15 pm, and they told us that the kitchen closes at 9:15 pm. Their website says they close at 9:30 pm. We might go back sometime but probably not for a long time.

This place is amazing!! I went here for the first time a week ago and it was so good, I had to go back today!! I went with my boyfriend both times. We got the mix tempura, Chilean sea bass, and the T.N.T roll and of course some hot sake. OMG best sea bass or maybe even fish I've ever had!! It has such an amazing buttery taste!! Delicious!! The tempura was good nothing special and the sushi roll was great!! The service is very friendly and attentive! They're great about clearing dishes and making sure you have everything you need! The ambience is a nice beach feel with blue colors and decor and has a nice trendy feel. The reason I have it 4 stars is because the location would be perfect if it had an ocean view. However I LOVE this place and will definitely be back many times!!! Definitely recommend and have the sea bass!! :)

The sashimi was so fresh, the service was wonderful, and the place was chic and clean. It's a small little place hidden away between shops and an Albertson. We tried the a deal for 3 different shots of sake (dry, and sweet) for just under 10 bucks. Highly recommend this place.

Poor Service I stopped in for lunch for the first time today, just a little after 2pm. Everything seemed fine and I started receiving my food. Then, while I had a mouth full of food the chef asks "anything else"? I couldn't really answer until I finished chewing, but he started closing and the hostess handed me a check. Feeling rushed I said fine, I guess I am done. Apparently they shut everything down exactly at 2:30 even if you are mid meal. If they are in that big a hurry to close they should have warned me when I was seated. I gladly would have gone somewhere else. I was trying to relax. Not so much at this place

First of all I have to admit that I am a Sushi snob. I made friends early in my career with a Sushi chef and he spoiled the hell out of me. I know average from the good and the great. That said, this place will not disappoint you. I am happy to come here time and time again; it has few rivals in Laguna Beach. I would rate them as good but not quite great.

In just about 44 days I"ll be able to eat sushi again! I guess in 44 days I'll also get to meet my baby, but I think I may be almost as excited about the sushi. My husband adores sushi as much as I do so he's been suffering as well. We especially love the sushi in Cali...sure beats any raw fish we have in Chicago! Therefore, on our most recent babymoon in Laguna Beach I decided to be a nice wife and book a sushi restaurant for one of the nights. Figured the hubby would be happy and I could always eat the cooked (aka: boring) rolls. O Laguna Beach is very conveniently located right across the street from the beautiful Montage Hotel we were staying at. It's right in a strip mall, which may seem a bit random to Chicagoans, but strip malls seem to be the norm in the OC. It's a very tiny restaurant and although they had a table waiting for us, we opted to sit at the bar instead. They were serving toro on their special menu that evening and my hubby went to town. He loved it so much that he ordered in 3 (maybe 4?) times....among a few other specialty rolls. At $15 for just 2 pieces of toro it was a bit pricey, but he said the taste was well worth it. I was a bit jealous, but did enjoy eel and veggie rolls. It's kind of unfair to review a sushi restaurant based on their eel and veggie rolls, but these were pretty good...and as close as I've gotten to the real thing in 8 months. The sushi chefs were super friendly. We did have to remind them a few times about our order (and they don't have the pregnancy brain excuse) and my seaweed salad never showed up, but regardless we left very satisfied. I'll be back.,.and next time for some toro!

We were really thrown off by such a high rating, which is why we chose this place. It is no 4 or 5 star, but it is good. Service was worth a 5 star rating, but the food was just good. Not incredible, just good... Worth a try on a casual dinner, but save your romantic dates for somewhere else!

Quality of food = 4.5 Freshness of seafood = 5 Skill of sushi chefs = 4.5 Friendly/helpful wait staff = 5 Honestly, this is what I look for in a sushi restaurant. Hipper than average atmosphere (even though it's in a strip mall), a server who steers me towards the best stuff and discourages me from ordering something that isn't top notch, and a really interesting menu that won't bore me by visit number 3. Everything I ate was superb. The uni actually tasted like it was pulled from a nearby Laguna shore tidal basin 5 minutes before I ordered it. The Kobe beef tataki was amazing, and I love the pickled wasabi that was served with some of the dishes. Presentation of the lobster roll was beautiful.

This was our first visit to our neighborhood sushi spot. They are very busy and everyone was in good spirits. Even during a very busy time the service staff was really nice, team oriented and very helpful. The food was really good too! The mushroom miso soup, green salad dressing, T.N.T. Roll and the Garlic Beef dinner...all were very tasty. I recommend the Saki Sampler...dry, smooth & sweet premium saki.

Hard to not love O Sushi!! The fish is always very fresh. The sushi chiefs are funny and talkative. This is a regular for my dad who has tried about every sushi bar in south Orange County. Justin makes fabulous sushi and the taste is nothing short of the presentation. Highly recommend O Sushi!

Awesome sushi place. I just got back from 'world famous' Hamasaku in West LA and I'm telling you, this place in Laguna is in the ballpark for a fraction of the price. Yeah, there were some 'average' (not bad at all) rolls but that was the exception to the rule. Very creative and balanced... and fresh. It's a bit cramped in there but it's worth it. I'm shocked at the random 'one star' review, they seem like impossible to please people or something. Definitely check it out... I don't know of a better sushi place in Laguna.

  • Dave S.

Came here based on yelp reviews and was disappointed. To start off with, the waitress was a rather loud and pushy lady with a heavy accent who couldn't be bothered with answering some simple questions on the menu. She must have come by five times to inquire whether we were ready to order. Once the order was taken, that was the last time we saw of her, which I guess was a good thing. The two younger staff members where a bit more pleasant to deal with. The mood was set and the food didn't improve the situation any. We had garlic beef, grilled salmon and a selection of sashimi and super California roll. With the exception of the sashimi, rest was bland and without any flavor, including miso soup. It appeared they spent more time with the presentation (somewhat of an overkill) than the quality of the food. Quality of the rice wasn't good either. Sashimi, on the other hand, was good and would be the only redeeming feature of this place. We will not be going back to this place.

Talk about last minute thinking. The thought didn't occur to me that I didn't book dinner reservations anywhere from nye. Duh!!! My brain has been on overload this whole month, so 2 days before nye, here am I on yelp scrambling for 45 minutes. Boo hoo!! Everything is booked. I finally found this place next to our hotel. It wasn't packed when we arrived, of course when you book @ 6:00 p.m. Old people time. Sushi was too filling that the hubby cancel his last rolls, cause he was stuffed. I settled for the udon, boring, but I didn't feel like sushi. Service was great and they were on top of refilling our ice teas and emptying our plates. The place is in a strip mall way in the corner, it's not fancy or big, but it's authentic, since the servers and sushi chefs were Japanese. We will probably go again next time were back in town.

The food we ordered: -Tuna roll was good -Chicken teriyaki came with miso soup, salad, and white rice. This dish was good as well. -Gyoza was delicious -The ginger was very pungent.....cleared my nostrils, and no it was not the wusabi. Very fresh. Service: Our waitress was Shannon, she was very attentive, pleasant to talk to and nice. Overall: Great sushi place. I gave 4/5 stars because I did not explore too much of their menu. But I did feel it was great for the price.

Amazing sushi every time I go. Their tempura is delicious as well. The salad with some kind of orange dressing is addicting! They have excellent service and they're so kind and attentive. Doesn't look like much from the outside and even inside it is very small but the sushi was great. Toro, super white tuna, dynamite and volcano appetizers are on point. Our party had 2 hand rolls and 4 cut rolls. All of them were very good. I would recommend and I would return again.

Best sushi ever!! Not even kidding, had no issue throwing out 100.00 for 3 rolls and some oysters. First time here, my girl n I sat at the sushi bar. The chef was super fun, friendly and asking us a bunch of questions. When we told him this was by far the best sushi we ever had and informed him we live in SD he was shocked, claiming Sushi Ota was the best. Maybe to him since he works at O's and has had it a million times, but from someone on the outside looking in, no one has ever made rolls this good. Came again a few months later and decided to get the same stuff and see if it was as good as previous, and it was!!! We got the TNT, Sexy Laguna Roll and Rock n Roll. All were awesome. Sexy Laguna was the best!! Seriously, want to impress your significant other or a business partner? Bring em here, they will be in heaven.

This place is super fresh and delicious. The staff was super friendly and attentive. They are right by Albertsons and had a ton of regulars (which is a good sign) Their Baked Lobster Roll was beyond delicious. Their price range is anywhere from $6 - $20 which isn't bad for sushi in Laguna.

10 stars for the service!!! I must apologize for taking so damn long to write about them since they deserve praise asap. So Milky and I came in a Saturday and had RSVP's and were sat down immediately. I love the look of this place, the booth to the far left was a nice touch so him and I had privacy. We had about 3 ladies helping us and all very nice and made sure we were taken care of. Started off with some yummy soju drinks and a sake. Nice buzz. I love the the soju mixed drinks nice sized glasses and flavors were great. So the menu is a big one and yet again so many choices , I don't know what to do with myself LOL. Everytime I see porkbelly on a menu, I must have it! So we started with that and it was gooooood. They actually thinly (not to thin) slice the pork belly instead of big cubes of it. It was great! Not overcooked and very flavorful and a hint of sweet YUM. We also ordered one of their specials, halibut topped with uni and inside a carved out cucumber piece it was filled with real wasabi and I mean real wasabi topped with black caviar. That was good and combining the bites with all flavors took it up a notch. We ordered various nigiri rolls and some handrolls. EVERYTHING was very fresh , seriously no complaints. Just super nice people and I will be back with Mr.M as long as im in his neck of the woods...

Without yelp I would have never found this gem of a sushi place for a late lunch after a beach day a couple years ago. After that, it easily became one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Orange County! Whether it be for a quick lunch after a summer beach day or a romantic dinner date with my boyfriend, the ambiance is fabulous, the fish is always of the finest quality and the service is friendly, quick, and caring. This place may be small and a bit hidden, but I would recommend "O" to anyone looking for a top notch sushi restaurant in Orange County.

The service was excellent! And the ambience is very inviting with the eye-catching blue sushi bar. Usually the fish is very fresh but for some reason on the particular day that we went, it didn't taste as fresh as it should. Other than the fish, everything else was cooked to perfection. And the portions are huge! We had 2 boxes leftovers at the end.

Was visiting the area for work and was looking for a sushi fix. Came recommended from a co worker. Service was great but the sushi was just ok. My rolls lacked any flavorful punch. For two rolls and a bottle of saki the bill came to $35 for one person. I will try other sushi restaurants in the area before making a return trip.

Over priced. Sashimi salmon was cut very thin, not worth it. Sushi quality is low.

Great find through yelp. We were in Laguna beach and in the mood for sushi so we found this place on yelp. It was a great decision to go here. Not only was the food great but their presentation was impeccable. I ordered the O roll and it was a work of art. And it tasted as amazing as it looked. The fish was really fresh. Generally I'm not a fan of caviar but the caviar in this place was top notch. It is a bit on the pricier side but totally worth it. I'm glad I tried this place.

Amazing! First time here and it will def be a repeat performance. Service is great, friendly and quick and food is to die for. Don't pass this up. Or please do so there's a spot for us!

It was hidden in a nook in a strip mall along the PCH.. the staff were very friendly and the food was amazing.. my 5 year old critic loved the soup, the salad, the lamb rack and the eel and sushis.. this happens so rarely that i had to give it a 5 star rating..

Wow, this is officially my new favorite sushi spot. It is very unassuming in the same parking lot as Albertsons. But the food is phenomenal. Very fresh and full of flavor. I had the 15 piece sashimi plate. It was only $20 and a meal in itself and came with Miso soup. My girlfriend had a few rolls, one of which was topped with 4 different colors of caviar. Delicious and highly recommended. Oh yea, they had Mochi ice cream for desert :)

In Laguna, my favorite place used to be San Shi Go, but once I had the Sashimi platter and the rolls at O Fine I was smitten. O Fine is NOW my favorite Japanese restaurant around. I am a big sashimi fanatic and this is as good as it gets when it comes to the portions and quality of the fish. Now I have to be forthcoming - I can only attest to the sushi as I have never made it past that and had anything else. For $19 you can get a sashimi platter with 5 different types of raw fish. (i have posted the pic on here) The servings are generous and the largest portions I have had anywhere in the OC. The taste and quality of the fish I have had there, on many occasions, have been excellent. The fish melts in your mouth. I am drooling just thinking about it. Oysters - My personal favorite - are to die for. The garnishes they put on the oysters makes these my #1 favorite oysters around. The only bad thing is....you only get 2 per serving. I have to order 2 - 3 plates to satisfy my craving. Now the rolls - every single roll we have had has been amazing. They are huge and full of flavor. You cant go wrong with any of them. Crunch Tuna Tataki Roll - so good! One of my favorite rolls. The crunchy onions on top of the roll make it unique and tasty. Now the table service is ok. Nothing special. Sushi bar service is pretty good. What gives this place the 5 stars is the sushi. It's excellent. YUMM YUMM YUMM

The food is always very fresh. It's the best sushi restaurant I've been to in Orange County. The O rolls wrapped in cucumber are a unique twist and are definitely worth trying.

Yum! I will go as far to say this is the best Sushi in Laguna. I had no idea that they had more than 1 location until we arrived with our party of 11 and were told we must have made it at their locations in Irvine : / whoops... but the staff was accommodating and got us into the sushi bar right away. Can't wait to go back.

O Fine has a pretty wide selection of fresh Japanese food. Nice small and cozy ambience. The servers are very attentive and polite. We ordered the chilean sea bass." and tuna sashimi- both were above my expectations (minus the saltiness of the Chilean sea bass). Overall a great dining experience! Will be going back in the near future!

I'm from Texas. I'm a foodie, for sure, but until I ate sushi in CA, I didn't understand what "fresh" was. In the 7 days we were in CA (both LA area and SF), we ate sushi 4 or 5 times. This was by far the best sushi I have ever had. We each ordered one of the lunch specials. I got 6 pieces of nigiri (variety) and a 4 piece spicy tuna roll, which was around $10. We also ordered 3 of their speciality rolls. They were all excellent. I can't remember the names but one of them had a lot of mango on it, one was spicy tuna with regular tuna on top and the baked lobster roll for the 3rd. The lobster roll was so good -- real main lobster (not the langostino stuff others call lobster in sushi). We also ordered the Ahi Poke appetizer, which was very fresh and delicious and one other appetizer, that I can't remember now, but know I really enjoyed (sorry, I know it doesn't help). For this Texas gal, this was the best sushi i've ever eaten. Go check it out and I think for the next month, they're doing 20% off dinner prices!

I took my hubby back here for our 2nd wedding anniversary. This is where we had our fun (and very loud) rehearsal dinner and it brought so many great memories. The miso Chilean seabass was so delicious, so flaky, so melt-in-your-mouth good. The salmon on Sexy Laguna Roll was super fresh. What really stood out was an exceptional service by our server, Vickie! She was funny, engaging, attentive, and accommodating. She gave us 1/2 white and brown rice since I couldn't decide. She recognized us when we mentioned the rehearsal dinner and gave us a free ice cream of our choice! It's the simple things that change the dining experience from good to awesome! Thank you so much for a great time!

Yummy!!!! Tuna tartare was so delicious. Fish looked very fresh. Love mango and tuna and crab combo. Who knew? Pricey, but then again it is Laguna beach. Small and very crowded was not staffed properly as there was only 2 waitresses. Sushi chef James was very nice. definitely try it. We will be coming back.

I wish this place wouldn't be so far away. I love coming her to visit the best sushi chef ever. Request for Chef Miki and you won't be dissappointed. Fish is always fresh...and must try the halibut with fresh Truffle. It is out of this world.

O Fine Japanese Cuisine was really great food. It was superb service; to the point that our server waited to put in the order for our last rolls because I think hew KNEW our eyes were bigger than our stomach's. We were so grateful because we were too full to eat any more. It may not look like much from the outside, but it's well worth the drive down PCH!

  • Sylvia D.

I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants but I can confidently say that O Fine absolutely slaughtered the competition! They are pricey no doubt but the quality in fish and service were well worth it! The service was top notch. We went for my birthday dinner with a party of 5 and ordered a lot of food! I can't remember how many rolls alone we had ordered but before they even brought out the last one we were stuffed! The waitress could tell we had reached a coma like state, and offered to even cancel the last roll if we were too full!!! Where has that ever happened before! Places never do that! Long story short, try this place out, you will not regret it!

We are sushi addicts! It is our food of choice and I would call us "seasoned" and well qualified as a reviewer. For what that's worth... We went to O' twice in the week we were in LB. The service was excellent, both times we were seated immediately. We were celebrating our anniversary on our first visit and our server made sure we were treated special. The restaurant is small, but very nicely decorated with blue neon and nice furniture. The sushi chef was friendly and skilled. Other reviews said the prices were high, in my experience they are average, go for the sushi lunch special, the sashimi pieces were very large and for around $12 (and free tea) you will have a very nice lunch that is more than filling. Don't be fooled by the menu on their website, it is partial, the sushi menu is actually quite large with a lot of rolls and nigiri offered. Also, it should be noted that even the California roll is made with real crab...all was VERY fresh and tasty.

Just finished with a hike, walked in on Saturday night at around 6 o'clock was kind of worried about my clothes however no worries it was a relaxed atmosphere. Onto the fish; I wish I asked the chefs name, he was the larger of the two sushi chefs and he really hooked it up. It was delicious. The sashimi was fresh and melted in your mouth... literally.... try the super toro its the closest fish will get to a stick of butter. If your in the area, go to this unpretentious little restaurant in a shopping mall. Im glad I found it looking for a bottle of water, hidden gem right off the pch.

I came here for my birthday and i got free green tea icea cream! =D anyhow, i also ordered the chilean sea bass thanks to my fellow yelpers and you guys did not let me down, it was buttery yet steak-y...does that make sense? just go try it. The sushi was fresh and the flavors well balanced... and the highlight of my night was the sake. I dont drink much..at all, as in i'm always DD, but they had a sake on discount and i've never had sake before.. It was sooo goood! Dont remember the name, but it was pink and very sweet. Cold sake. i think i'd go back just for the sake until i find out the name so i can go buy it on my own.. drool. ~ i swear i'm not an alcoholic =]

It's been about 3 months or so since our last visit but our waitress remembers we've dined her before. My wife is Taiwanese as are the owners and waitresses and so we chatted for a bit on our first visit. By the way, don't judge that they're Taiwanese and serving Japanese cuisine. Many Asian cultures delve into other Asian cultures cuisine and do a great job with it and introduce their own unique twists. Tonight is Chinese New Year so we didn't want to deal with the "cattle" at Chinese or Taiwanese food restaurants. Our menu for tonight included: spicy tuna cracker; salmon sushi; saba shio appetizer; miso chilean seabass dinner; ribeye beef sukiyaki; green tea tempura ice cream. The spicy tuna cracker is once again as tasty as it looks. And that is hard to do as this item is stunning in photographs. I had a bite of the mackerel (sabo shio) which is normally a little fishy for me but this one is less smelly and tastes great. The miso Chilean seabass is a very good rendition. I didn't try the wife's sukiyaki but it looked and smelled nice. I would say that the green tea tempura ice cream was nice but surprisingly the red bean ice cream is better suited for this dessert as it is a little sweeter.

Nice mood lighting and great sushi make for an excellent place to take your date. Not too loud, so you can carry on a conversation without yelling. Not in the area that often but would definitely drop in again.

Just a little bit of a high price. I don't think its high enough to bring it up to 3 $$$, but most of their nigiri sushi is $6-$9 per order (kindof ridiculous for 2pc) and special rolls are all about $15-$17, then soup, tea, tax, anything else u might get. Just not quite a casual night. Other than that the fish is pretty good- that I wont complain. There u have it!

Long wait even with reservation for dinner. Small restaurant w about 7 small tables and sushi bar, located in the corner of a strip mall. It would be better to come as small group of no more than 4. Sashimi platter was good w generous cuts. Had brown rice option. Sushi rolls (rainbow and sexy something) were also generous in portion. By the way, their wasabi was the strongest I've ever had- it cleared my sinus :)

  • Debi J.

Not a fan of sushi- so I can't comment on that. But I stopped in here with a friend for a quick dinner before going into Laguna Beach for the evening. We were in a hurry and asked them up front for recommendations that wouldn't take long. My friend was disappointed because the sushi bar was backed up. So we ordered from the kitchen. I just had simple chicken teriyaki and she had shrimp and scallops. My teriyaki was very good- maybe the best I have ever had. It was on the early bird special so was a small portion but was plenty of food. Served with fried rice and chow mein- can't wait to go back. Service was good, attentive and fast.

Been to this restaurant about 3 times a week since they first opened. At this point I had to update my review. I will never step foot in this place again. To begin with (and this should be enough) my sushi roll was served to me with a thick black piece of the sushi chefs hair rolled into it and sticking out the top. Needless to say I almost threw up. I don't like hair on my husband who I love, do you think I want to eat the freakin' sushi chefs hair!! It gets worse. I let the waitress know and she tells the sushi chef and he thinks its a good idea to very loudly go on for ten minutes joking w/the other sushi chef about the hair in my roll and starts carrying on saying ooohh hair make sure you don't put hair in your food, laughing hysterically and high five-ing. RUDE AS HE'LL. ok let's move on. The manager is so freakin cheap if they bring an order of sushi that is a bad piece/cut etc (inedible) and you tell the waitress, the owner then makes a huge scene (embarrassing) and tries to force you to pay for it. They also ordered us 2 extra rolls at times (like 4 times to be exact) and they try and guilt you into paying for it. So unprofessional. As for the cleanliness, I'd say take some antibiotics! We have gotten sick from here several times. Why did we go back? Because we were being MORONS! Yes, I can admit that. The tables are greasy the floor is sticky, the silverware is not always clean and their food has gone WAY down hill and also become very inconsistent. Oh yeah almost forgot, who the heck likes being told repeatedly by the waitresses "wow you eat a lot or you don't need to eat so much@ WHHHHAAATTT??? Who in their right mind says that??? I'm very thin but imagine if I wasn't? I'd be deeply hurt. But in general it just ticks me off! This place SUCKS! My final comment, it's run by Koreans and Chinese. Word to the wise, The Japanese make the best sushi. Im still trying to locate the best sushi place in OC but OC Is so lame there really aren't too many halfway decent restaurants therefore we are always going to LA. All recommendations for sushi in OC will be GREATLY appreciate but please NO HAIR!! P.S. the Sushi restaurant in Ladera Ranch, KANPAI also has a fondness for hair in their sushi, you've been warned.

I'm not sure how they claim ocean views but it is really close to the beach. The sushi was really good. The atmosphere was a little different than I expected. The seating was a little tighter than I normally like. It was kind of like the movie Valentines Day. Not quite as bad but not a whole lot better either. My girlfriend ordered one of their signature drinks. An apple kind of thing. It was really strong. Not really bad, just strong. I really did like the food though. I might go back if I'm in the area and there's less people eating there. I'll give it a 3.5 rating.

This is a hidden jewel! If you love sushi, this is the place to go! The yellow tail and salmon are delicious! Extremely fresh, generous cuts. My daughter had the calamari tempura appetizer with tomato dipping sauce and she loved it. Appetizer very reasonably priced. We also had a crunchy shrimp roll which is basically a California roll with a shrimp tempura rolled in it. Excellent. The star of our dinner however was the spicy tuna roll with poki. It is expensive but considering what you are getting, well worth it! The Poki is a variety of fishes seasoned fairly mildly. Traditional poki like you get in Hawaii. Absolutely fantastic flavor! Beautiful presentation, modern interior decor and friendly attentive service ....top notch all the way around, highly recommend!

This is a must if you are in Laguna Beach. I have been here many times now, and I always bring my friends and they all love it too. The fish has always been fresh and delicious, and the service can not be better. They are always friendly and helpful. You never have to look around for a server, as they are very attentive. I never had to ask for my water to be refilled, they are always on it. I have had the beef yakatori and it is melt in your mouth delicious every time. You cant lose by coming here. The prices are very very reasonable for the quality and location. I love this place and I look forward to going back next time Im in Laguna. Thank you O Fine.

Mountain potatoes anyone? Prior to my maiden voyage to "O", I had never heard of these little taters. The julienned potatoes were served sushi style in nori surrounded by a quail egg; shiso leave and umei (salty plum paste). When I popped one of those babies in my mouth the raw quail egg exploded and the crunch from the mountain potatoes and salt from the umei blended very well together. Obviously, raw quail eggs are an acquired taste but this chef's surprise was a delight! The pieces of fish for the sushi were very large and very fresh. No skimping on fish at "O"!! My Crunch Salmon Tataki was a visually gorgeous cut roll filled with crab meat, crispy tempura shrimp and white onions (we had our sushi chef add asparagus for some veggie) then rolled with salmon slices that had been dredged lightly in cornstarch and quickly seared on the outside. The final result was a delicious roll which was topped with ponzu garlic sauce and red tobiko (flying fish eggs). I also tasted a hint of smokey flavor, very nice. Yes sir...may I have another!! (4.5 Stars will suffice)

This place is awesome. Great service and great (very fresh) sushi! We had dinner with the family tonight and they couldn't have been more kind and accommodating to our kids. Our baby squealed once and they rushed to the table with a kind word and help. This place goes on our weekly rotation list. Amazing!!

We had sushi here one night when our regular sushi place in Laguna had a very long wait. Got on Yelp app and looked for sushi places nearby. The reviews were good so we decided to give it a try. The location wasn't impressive at first, it's in a shopping plaza across Montage off the PCH where there's also an Alberton's in the plaza. But one step inside and we were impressed. The decor was chic modern with nice lighting. Although small, it was decorated to utilize maximum space. It was after 9pm on a Saturday night at this point and there were only 2 other couples there. The food was excellent, very seasoned chef and the sashimi was very high quality. The two rolls we did ordered weren't fried or smothered in sauce. Staff was great too. After this experience we realized we now had two favorite sushi places in Laguna.

oh my belly bursting.... nom nom nom.. i've been craving sushi and this was perfect!! dont let the location of the shady strip mall deter you, but once you are inside, it's like a whole different world! steamed sea bass, agedashi tofu, TNT roll, sunset laguna roll, and crunch dragon roll (or something like that). I was hoping to have more room to order one more roll, but that did not happen. the agedashi tofu is one of the best i've ever tasted... so yummy. the crunch dragon roll has crab and shrimp tempura inside with spicy tuna on top. very yum. the spicy tuna had a pretty nice kick to it. i always feel like spicy tuna is never really spicy, but this was great. the sunset laguna roll had crab inside and salmon on the inside. i think it couldve been a bit more creative. the TNT roll had spicy tuna on the inside and seared tuna and avocado on top and OMG this was my fav roll. but it takes a while to come out compared to the other rolls so dont get to full if you order other stuff. that was my big mistake. i wish i had more room to eat more food. it was so delicious. I definitely would come back if i'm in the area again, and its worth a try if you live close by!!

Thanks yelp for guiding us to this little gem. Some of the best salmon and yellow tail nigiri I've ever had (and I'm pretty picky)! The O roll was an original delight. Great service also. Awesome decor, not apparent from outside.

I am lucky enough to live 1 minute from O Fine, and that is a problem. When I did my taxes last year I wrote off $700 in Japanese food alone, I should probably go down to the canyon club and find a sushi Anon meeting. Mike, one of my favorite chefs there, has offered (with a call ahead of time) to make me live sushi for special events. Nothing says party like live shrimp and octopi! On my highly recommended food list would be the sashimi roll, a no nonsense, fish ++ roll. Plus anything topped with caviars has to be good. Say nay to the nay-sayers, and eat at O Fine.

  • K R.

The sushi was good, but the 4 stars are for the excellent service. We had a group of 7 with two different bills. They were extremely accommodating, and even noticed when we were slowing down on our rolls and asked if we still wanted the remaining food or if we wanted to cancel them. How cool is that? The server and owner(?) were fantastic to us - before, during, and after sake bombing and sometimes animated/loud storytelling. I would definitely go here again.

This place is great. We've been meaning to come here for a long time and frequently go to La Sirena next door. The sushi rice was super tasty and they had lots of fun rolls. We sat at the bar and the chef was attentive and friendly. My favorite items were the TNT roll and the fresh red snapper! I would definitely come back.

Finally I've found my OC Sushi Spot. I've lived here for 3 years and haven't found a Sushi place I love until now. Thanks to all the Yelpers who reviewed O Fine, I decided to try it out. I enjoyed absolutely everything about this restaurant. Small and Intimate with great decor, very good service, and best of all VERY FRESH DELICIOUS SUSHI! We ordered: California Roll. Sashimi Ahi Tuna and Salmon, Kobe Beef Appetizer, Veggie Roll, TNT Roll, Edamame, Miso Soup, Side Salad, Mixed Tempura and Chicken Teriyaki Dinner. We also had green tea and a delicious cold Sake. Wish I could remember the name. It was $22 for a 300ml premium sake bottle. It was very smooth and easy to drink. I highly recommend O Fine to anyone looking for great sushi. This will be my new go to sushi place.... O Fine, get my table ready. I will be visiting you often.

Don't let location fool you. It's across The Montage on Pacific Coast Highway, around the corner from CVS, next to a Mexican place. Step inside and you'll be surprised to find dark, intimate, elegant decor. The sushi is top notch, but salads and warm entrees also superb. We went back a second time and my wife got the same dish, a seared salmon salad that she raved over. I had crab/scallops stuffed into a half avocado shell that surprised me at how savory it was.

My wife loves this place. She's a die hard sushi fan and love this place. They have a good selection of sushi for her. Since I do not eat sushi, I order from the dinner menu. The sushi chefs are friendly and the waitresses are always nice. The restaurant has a beautiful and modern decoration. It's definitely a place worth going for sushi.

I was not expecting much when I walked in because the place was tiny and they had more on their menu than sushi. I work at a sushi bar and find it hard to find a place that beats my restaurant. But WOW. I was so pleased with EVERYTHING! All of the sushi was so incredibly fresh! My boyfriend and I had the salmon roll, Hawaiian roll, spider roll, and the baked lobster roll. All of the fish and crab was SO fresh that each bite was amazing! The avocado was also incredibly ripe. For dessert, we had the green tea ice cream tempura. Also amazing. even the little strawberry that came with our ice cream was so ripe I ate it! ( I absolutely HATE strawberries). And to top it off, our waitress was THE BEST! She was the cutest thing and she checked up on us at perfect times. She was very patient with us while we took forever to decide what to order because it was our first time. I believe her name was Yenni? Anyways, we will DEFINITELY be back whenever we want sushi because I have never been to a place that beats this one. I Love O Laguna Beach!!!

We came here for our Mother's day dinner. We experienced great service and quality dishes. The food was amazingly too great and all the dishes we ordered was soooo good! My parents-in-law loved the restaurant and they said they want to come back again to try other menus. They were very very happy. WE WILL COME BACK AGAIN and DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE!

An absolute find in Laguna..... Very trendy restaurant in the Albertson's strip mall on PCH. (Location doesn't detract at all from the experience). Once you enter, you will be greeted by many smiling faces and sushi chefs. Decor is modern and the dining room is immaculate. We visited for lunch on a Friday. Great specials and very fresh fish. We both ordered the sashimi lunch special. It contained 2 generous pieces of tuna, whitefish and salmon, along with 1 piece of yellowtail and shrimp each. Miso soup and brown rice was also included. Give this one a shot.....you won't be sorry. And neither will your wallet...

Well since yelp decided to filter out my last review I'll write another one. This place has been my Achilles heel since they moved in down the street from my house a few months ago. Contrary to what was recently mentioned, I have to say they have an amazing lunch special, that's a great value. You get either a rainbow roll, crunchy roll or caterpillar roll, plus five pieces of sushi, plus a miso soup, and a salad, and a huge wedge of orange to top it all off at the end... If you're not going the lunch special route, be sure to order the salmon nigiri. It's by far the best I've ever had, anywhere. The staff is very friendly and always attentive.

O has delicious sushi! Very fresh every time I've been. They always have great specials and prices aren't insane. The best roll I've had here is a summer roll with mango on top, so so good! The calamari with sun dried tomato sauce is to die for. this restaurant is definitely worth trying at least once.

I am dumbfounded as to why O ranks above San Shi Go here. I am a sushi fanatic and Laguna local who has visited Japan many times, and San Shi Go's sushi far surpasses O's sushi in my experience. I don't mean to rag on anyone; the sushi is fine at O, and they seem like very nice people, but in my opinion it really can't compete with the quality at San Shi Go. Not to mention that San Shi Go has an ocean view, and O has a strip mall view. By the way, I have absolutely no connection with either of these restaurants. I'm just someone who loves sushi..

Great sushi at a reasonable price. Not as crowded as a typical sushi bar. Good service. Easy parking.

Best sushi in Orange County. Been to both Laguna and Shady Canyon. Both are fantastic. Will be going back often!

Haven't been in for weeks, but a recent visit was unexpectedly better than memory. The selection of daily specials are the key here, along with some of their main dishes. The hamachi carpaccio was a unique and delightful dish - scallops, octopus, halibut and shrimp were also excellent The albacore sushi was just slightly seared, also a distinct treatment to O Laguna Beach -- the unagi was a standout as well, while the halibut sushi and yellowtail collarbone were delicious. In addition to the overall quality of the food, the service was really fantastic -- my hot tea was refreshed/replaced, and I got to enjoy green tea over dinner. The space is also clean, and very relaxing. Go early (before 7pm) and you can almost always get in, even on a weekend, though you might not get the sushi bar.

The miso seabass was yummy. Very tender and sweetly flavorful. However, I wished it wasn't so oily. It came with a nice salad and miso soup. The salad was fresh and I liked the tangy creamy salad dressing, but the miso soup was a bit too salty. Their sushi and rolls looked really fresh and interesting. I had the spider roll, which was fried to perfection and was abnormally huge too! I had a taste of the lobster dynamite. Surprisingly, it came baked in the original whole lobster tail shell and the pieces of lobster meat was large and fresh.

Great place for a sunday lunch - they have lunch specials all through the weekend and their portions are good and the quality high. I recommend any of the bento boxes!!! I guarantee you will not be able to finish it, but it's not like cheap japanese food that just tastes fried.

I was very excited when they opened right down the street and actually had a few good experiences there. The servers are very friendly and glad to see you. However lately I've been disappointed with the sushi chef. I don't know if he's new but he has had a really bad attitude behind the bar. I likely won't go back for awhile. Maybe he'll go someplace else to be rude and mimic customers.

Super fresh, delicious fish ! Some of the best sashimi I've had. My boyfriend and I came here while staying at the Montage across the street because the staff recommended it. Shannon was our server and she was lovely ! I mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday as we were paying our bill and then she and another server brought over a desert with a candle and sang happy birthday to him- so sweet and thoughtful. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the decor/ atmosphere , too bleak and modern for my taste. But the sushi was amazing and so was Shannon !

We were driving through Laguna, and we used Yelp to help us find a good sushi place. This place is tucked back in the corner of the Albertson's parking lot. The decor was cute inside. We sat at the sushi bar. The chef was amazing. I ordered salmon sashimi (as I do at every sushi restaurant) and it was like butter. Melted in your mouth! The only complaint I have is that it took a longggg time to get our drinks. The sushi chef even seemed irritated. The gave us the Anniversary Discount before we even mentioned Yelp. Overall, it was a good experience.

One of my best experiences at a Sushi restaurant. The food is very presentable with an outstanding fresh taste to it! My favorite dishes would be the Baked Lobster Roll, Extra Spicy Tuna, Sashimi, Yellowtail, hell with it, everything on the damn menu!! Glad that the atmosphere is kid friendly as well. BTW, they love the teriyaki chicken and the Mochi Ice Cream.

Came here for lunch for the first time this weekend. We ordered rolls and sat at the bar. The fish was very fresh and the presentation was lovely. But the rolls are just too "american" for our tastes. Very heavy saucy large rolls. Some might like that sort of thing but it's just not for us. I think this place would be great for their lunch specials and bento boxes and even a sashimi salad or straight sushi and sashimi. As I said their fish is very fresh. I'll be coming back just won't be ordering rolls that's for sure. The atmosphere is very nice tho and the service is great very friendly and on point my ice tea was never empty.

I was sooooo happy when I yelped this place and had dinner there last week. We were frantically trying to make last minute reservations and stumbled upon this GREAT sushi bar. ((Atmosphere)): Sophisticated, Trendy, CLEAN... ((Sushi)): FRESH, FRESH, FRESH- This is one of the only sushi bars I have been to that doesn't serve "imitation" crab meat in their rolls, not featuring "crab" as a main ingredient. They use delicious king crab legs (they even use the legs as garnish and decoration, to prove a point). Everything was super chilled (no warm sushi here) and delicious. We ordered the "King Crab Roll" (after reading quite a few yelps that this roll was to die for) and the TNT roll. We had some tempura veggies to start and was pretty typical for fried veggies. The highlight of my plate was definitely the King Crab Roll- If you are a lover of seafood like I am, this roll should be your 1st choice! There is NO RICE on this roll, just soy paper, Crab and caviar on top!!! SOOO GOOD! ((Service)): The hostess station was a little on the slow side when we first arrived, but they did appear to be understaffed for a Saturday. But once we sat down at the sushi bar, the service was fast and friendly. ((Price)): The price for the food was great, considering everything was fresh and the service was damn good. **Over all I give this play 5 stars! It really stood out amongst many other sushi places I've been to in California as well as Florida.... I will definitely go back just to have the King Crab Roll!!

I totally agree with Jackie W's review. It's not O's fault, but the strip center is a little "blighted" due to the failing economy. O's itself is very nice though...and a great place to take a date. I eat a lot of sushi, so even though I love it, I'm never surprised by anything new, but I was at O's. Our server recommended the King Crab Roll which was very unique. I highly recommend it. Although its not cheap, I highly recommend O's and would come again.

one of the bomb sushi places that i have been to! Their service was really good and also it was fast. As for food taste. it was quiet amazing. the fish was fresh and the rolls were just right! But, the one thing that i like about this restaurant is the interior design. Now i love the color blue and this restaurant has got almost everything blue. It gives the beach or sea vibe which is a perfect fit while eating raw sushi :D

I too am jumping on the band wagon here - O Fine Japanese Cuisine is AWESOME! Thanks to all the info here on Yelp, I called and made a reservation and they were able to accomodate my request on Valentine's Day. The sushi was the best I have had in a long, long time! Each item ordered was insanely fresh and the presentation was like looking at a piece of art. Our feast consisted of: Unagi sushi; Scallop Handroll; Spicy Tuna Handroll; Spicy Salmon Handroll; O Roll; Caterpillar Roll; Spider Roll; and to top things off we shared the Red Bean ice cream - YUMMY!!! We also enjoyed the decor of this small, but very inviting restaurant. Service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. O Fine will most definitely be my first choice when I need a sushi-fix. I would recommend O Fine to anyone who truly loves the freshest of fresh sushi...

I keep waffling between 2-stars and 3-stars... Stopped by for lunch & ordered the Nabeyaki Udon to go. Maybe that was my mistake. I was a little disappointed in the portion & the toppings. My lunch came with a small salad; that was a pretty standard salad. The disappointment came when I cracked open my soup. After digging thru the green onions, I had 2 thin slices of ok fish cake, 3 quarter-sized pieces of chicken, 1 tempura shrimp, and a few leaves of spinach, 1 shitake mushroom cut in half, and 1 egg. Of the entire dish, 50% was liquid, 47% was noodle, and then 1% was green onion & the remaining 2% was the rest of the toppings. For a $7 dish, this is fine. But for a $13 dish. Really? Don't get me wrong, the staff is really congenial and friendly. However, I do think they are a bit over priced for what you get; especially for lunch.

This place is a little hole-in-the-wall next to Albertsons, and it literally is a hole in the wall. So tiny, I think there are like 6 tables. But the sushi and seaweed salad was delicious. They also decorate the plates of food with pretty garnish, which makes the food that much more appetizing. The fish was very fresh and they don't use mayo in the spicy tuna roll, which is the only way I will eat it (mayo does NOT belong in sushi). The only part that was annoying was we had to wait 20 minutes for a table we had RESERVED, even though the table was vacant and we were 2 steps away from it. The food made up for it though, and the servers were really sweet and accommodating. I'd come back :)

Fantastic! One of my fiancé & my favorite places to get sushi- fun but mellow atmosphere, clean, friendly service, and great food. I love the red dragon crunch roll and the caterpillar roll (very artistic as well as delicious)! It also passed the test of my sushi snob friends for sashimi and more interesting items, also passed the "I don't eat raw stuff" test with some of our less sushi friendly friends with a variety of cooked options- the pot stickers were a hit. Yum

The 1st time I came here everything was perfect. The food was good, it looked clean and the servers were sweet and attentive. So I brought my boyfriend in. It's close to our house. This time we sat at the sushi bar. We had the same server. She is always smiling and does a good job. The sushi chef on the other hand seemed like he didn't like us from the get go. Seemed like he had an attitude. My boyfriend asked if they had Ono. He said its on the menu yes. Places sometimes run out of stuff and my boyfriend asked because some places just don't have it. He was happy to see Ono on the menu. We got a roll off the menu. It had spicy tuna and seared Ono. When he handed it to us I went to grab it and he held on and said "no, it's heavy" so my boyfriend grabbed it. Just the way he said it didn't sound nice. Seemed like he was tryinging to not be completely lame but I have to say he was honestly the worst sushi chef we've ever had. I've never had a bad sushi chef. I eat sushi kind of a lot. When we left we said bye and thank you and he didn't look up. Kinda ruined the experience.

I REALLY loved the sushi here! Let me just say that I used to live in Japan, so I know a **little** bit about sushi, and tend to go for more basic, traditional things, rather than the OTT maki zushi rolls. Instead we ordered California rolls, spicy tuna rolls, and shrimp crunch rolls. At $9 the shrimp crunch was the most expensive of these. Most rolls are between 6-8 generous pieces. We also got miso soup, which wasOK, but a steal at $2. All in all, we had dinner for four for about $50. And the sushi was amazing!

I am excited to update my previous review. I never write a review unless I truly feel passionate about what I am saying. Good or bad. My husband and I decided to give 'O' one more try. We were hoping the owner/management read my review. Thankfully they did! Service was so much better and the food was consistent. If you pay A LOT for sushi you expect good quality and good portions and the chefs delivered. The waiter even apologized and said they accepted my critique and was appreciative for our return. The plates were being taken away quicker, the water was being refilled often, and the sushi was really amazing. They are also working on the bell, but I get it. One more staff member might be useful because the servers are rushing everywhere. They are doing their best to keep up with the popularity of the restaurant. Anyways we will continue to enjoy O in Laguna :) thanks!!!

Yelped around for sushi places and this came out with good reviews so i decided to try and they deserve a review. I dont post reviews much but when i do i make sure ppl know the have to try this place. The sushi quality is actually comparable to little tokyos quality. I had a chance to get to know one of the chefs there and found out he once worked for Morimoto. If u dont know about him u dont know sushi. Definitely the guy has connections and knows where to get the fresh fish. This place is legit defintely coming if in the area.

Fresh creative friendly delicious ! What else do you want...? Lots of choices to choose from, helpful staff, very nice decor and clean as a whistle place Wanted to try everything! Garlic edamame is excellent, Japanese burrito is very delicate and a must try, crispy spicy tuna roll is yummy, albacore tuna roll is perfect, no rice sea bass roll is very good as well! A must try if you are in Laguna Beach!

Amazing sushi, super great quality fish and excellent plating and presentation. Came here for the first time when family was in town for Thanksgiving, and we are very avid sushi eaters and hold high standards (being native coastal Californians); they said it was literally the best sushi they've ever eaten! They are under new management now and things have only gotten better! New layout in the restaurant as well as a new menu that is much more descriptive with pictures of all the items! If you love sushi and are willing to splurge a little extra (this place can be a little pricier than your average sushi joint) then eat here. P.S. If you are a real sushi connoisseur, order the toro sashimi. It's the most expensive fish on the menu but their fish quality is top notch and the flavor is rivaled by none.

I really love Laguna Beach and try to make it a point to come here for a meal every weekend. My friend and I had originally planned on meeting for lunch at another recommended Japanese restaurant, but she got there first and realized that it was only open for dinner. She then Yelp'd for the next best choice and we decided on O Fine. It's a mile or two south of the busy and touristy area of Laguna Beach (133 and PCH), which was good as it's located at a nice strip mall across the road from the Montage Resort, with plenty of free parking. I had tried O Fine in Irvine since it's closer to my home, but this was my first time here. I kind of really like this location as it's a tiny bit out of the way, and you don't get the huge office or tourist crowds which will inevitably usually mean long lines. Upon entering, it's a nice cozy little place....much smaller than the Irvine branch....but it was trendy, cozy, and bright. We were greeted by a very smiley and friendly hostess who gave us the choice of sitting at the sushi bar or at a table.....we chose a table. The menu is has a pretty long list of yummy offerings with lots of colorful pictures to help out. Like the other O Fine you can and will likely get a bit confused by the vast choices......and will most likely need time to look it all through. Unless of course you're a regular and already know what you want. The menu looked a bit different from the other O Fine, but the one item that stuck out at me was the lunch special combo. I love sea bass so I ordered the grilled sea bass combo with brown rice (instead of white). I knew it came with a bowl of miso soup, a salad, a choice of Japanese rolls (I chose the California roll), but what I didn't realize was that it also came with a nice serving of mixed tempura! I wasn't sure if this was going to be enough and was tempted to order an additional plate of Japanese rolls, but after some time when I realized the tempura was for me, I'm glad I didn't order anything more as this was a lot of food! My friend also ordered a combo, but with the beef teriyaki and she couldn't finish.....but then again, she ordered an addition of a California hand roll on top of her combo lunch. When the food came, I was surprised at how nicely presented it was. The grilled sea bass was a bit thin, but still yummy....and the plate came with some grilled vegetables. The California rolls were very good....I loved the crab filling and the rice was just perfect. The tempura is just the way it should be done.....with the traditional tempura batter.....yum too! :) By the time I finished my entire lunch, I was definitely full, but not sickly stuffed....and that's good :) And best of all, it's so nice and quiet in the restaurant that you can actually have a decent conversation with your party and still enjoy good food at the same time. The friendly server or manager came by to check on us to ask how everything was, and this shows they care. I have a feeling the prices here are a bit higher than their other restaurant, but hey, this is Laguna Beach after all...so everything is going to cost more. I'll definitely come back here just because I love the area, and the fact that there's no office crowd with long waits, and that I can enjoy my nice lunch in peace and quiet, and in a clean, cozy, and friendly atmosphere :) Oh, it was also fun watching the Sushi chef carving the entire whole tuna from scratch!

Although they were slightly understaffed on the night we came, our waiter (Val) went out of his way to be very friendly and to make sure we were well taken care of. All of his recommendations were spot on, and he even went so far as to provide my wife with lactose pills so she could safely enjoy her dessert. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for high quality food and service!

I have recently started going back to O after spending most of the past year and a half traveling the world. It's under new management and I personally think the food and service is even better than before ~ !!! They have a great happy hour with fantastic food and drink choices, Sunday through Thursdays until 6:30, I believe ~ call to check for sure ~ !!! I love the miso seabass and the mushroom miso soup ~ the scallops with peaches are very tasty and unique ~ !! They even have a Brussels sprouts dish that I love ~ !!! I keep finding reasons to go there for lunch or dinner ~ have had excellent meals and always leave full and happy ~ !!! Val is fantastic at making customers feel comfortable and making sure everything runs smoothly ~ a very caring and personable manager ~ !!!

This is my first yelp ever. My first time back to O since new ownership. My last time and would expect the same from other foodies. Got my order wrong...never had this issue prior. Not a biggie per se. What the hell happened. I ate maybe 20% of my meal and trashed the rest. Every dish tasted the same...nasty. You will not receive my business nor would I ever suggest anyone go there...ever....just the opposite. Sad to see a good restaurant fall apart.

We have been coming to O for almost 4 years. Entering the restaurant this evening was a shock to the system. Everything is different, menus, decor, chefs, waiters. The former team knew us, knew Laguna. The new is from Irvine, heavy sell, telling us what we wanted. Very uncomfortable, they seriously need to chill out. We are not going to return, it was our family hang out with Shelly, Kathy and Shannon, now its just another strip mall sushi joint. I gave it 2 stars because the fish was fresh but otherwise if you remember the old O beware, this is new O is more expensive and service needs a lot of work.

This place gets five stars.... why?.. go there and you will see. It is a classy restaurant more so than just a sushi bar. It's decor is very modern and clean. The service here is excellent. And the food is phenomenal. It was my girlfriends birthday and she had no idea that she was coming here or any clue that I brought a cake to this restaurant just hours before. I asked the servers if they could just bring it out after or meal. They took it to a whole next level. ..they designed a plate with candles and cherries and sauce that wrote happy birthday on it. She was soooooo surprised when they brought it out. They even sang happy birthday to her. What a great place. Now for the food, I had garlic beef something and it was awesome, it came with grilled vegetables and some sauce that was sweet and flavorful. The beef was tender and sliced thin, but not too thin. The entree came with a Japanese staple salad. But to add a slight twist, they put shredded beet and onion strings on it and an orange to top it off with some fabulous miso dressing. I will definitely come back here often when I am in the area. It's a great place, and it's reasonable price for the area.

Easily one of the best sushi/general Japanese places I've been to. And that's saying something considering the number of places I've tried. First off, the food is fantastic. Every dish I've tried has been well prepared, and the quality of the fish, crab and chicken is impressive, considering the price. The pricing is somewhat up there, but considering the quality of the food, is actually not bad at all. The service is also on point, and the food comes quickly :) To top that off, the location is nice, and sports a huge parking lot alongside a structure underneath a nearby Albertson's, which is really nice seeing as parking can be painful in the rest of Laguna Beach. So yea I love this place :P

O was the best combination of sushi, service and drinks in LB for the past 3 years, an easy 5 stars. We've dined in twice since the new management. Though the menu has changed (and more expensive) the food quality did not disappoint. Not so the service and wine offerings we so much enjoyed each week for the past 3 years. Scatter brained servers 3x tried to deliver another table's order (and they only have 8 tables) forgot two items we ordered and eventually forgot us altogether. Their wine list has taken a nose dive as the prices have skyrocketed. O has become our new take-out only sushi.

Having been here many times before, this is a shout out to Val, our fantastic waiter last night. He recently transferred from the Irvine location and Laguna is lucky to have him. The food is fabulous! The service is superb. We try to make here once a week. It not only serves the best sushi, but the people are the nicest ever. One afternoon we had Van who was a total treat to be with. Super helpful in our ordering. We just came home from dinner there and our server was nancy. She is reason enough to come back. So kind, again, so helpful. Our experience every time we go is all around fabulous, wonderful...can't say enough about this place. I'm not family, really....but they make you feel like family.

For what you get,'some of the best sushi you'll ever find,' says this reviewer. On top of the sushi, their appetizers are succulent. Their lamb is finely prepared. Still, nothing beats moms lamb... But, again- I'm Here for the sushi- bonus lamb ain't gonna hurt nobody. Do it. Stop being so bland. go somewhere that sings.

Good food and decent ambience. Service was ok, not great. Sushi selection was decent, not overwhelming. With the amount of sushi restaurants available I believe a 4 or 5 rating should be reserved for something truly exceptional. This place is good and sushi was fresh, but I did not experience anything that would really want to make me go back.

I read claims that this was the best sushi in OC so I had to try it. Went to dinner this past Tuesday evening at 6pm and the place was pretty dead, which is never a good sign in Orange County. The atmosphere was pleasant and the restaurant has a nice, contemporary feel to it. Service was excellent and we were well taken care of. Now about the sushi...(drum role here) Survey says?! It's good and beautifully prepared. Amongst other things, we had the O Roll and the Lobster Roll (which was fantastic!) and those were definitely the highlight of the evening. Would I say it's the best sushi in OC? Uhmmm, probably not, but it is good enough. Downside? The price tag matches the claim of "best sushi in OC" when is not, but that's just my personal opinion.

The food is amazing! If you have children the staff are always eager to embrace the little ones and make you feel comfortable. We live up the street and as locals love this place!

Had dinner here a couple times - last time ordered the salmon skin rolls - they were awful. Told them they were just wrong and gross and they confirmed that's how they should be. Spent a good amount of money at the bar, and when I left, because I had brought that to their attention, the traditional thanks, see ya', good night fell silent - the sushi chef at the bar wouldn't even look at me. Spoiled - get over yourself. It's business - nothing personal - your roll was ridiculously gross. Just simply say "no problem, we'll take it off your bill - want anything else?" Instead they were pretty chintzy and charged me for barely eaten at all horrendous roll.

Decently priced lunch box but I didn't think that the food was the best. I usually get take outs for dinner. The spinach that comes with udon is a nice and tasty. Dinner can be more pricy.

We loved it!!! We started with the avocado volcano. It was the most incredible appetizer we have ever tasted! It was a hollowed out avocado stuffed with scallops and snow crab. For people obsessed with avocados, we were in heaven. The rolls were substantial and had fun and interesting flavors and textures. They were presented in an artistic way, and mixed ingredients you wouldn't expect together. We would definitely suggest the summer roll. The mango and spicy tuna was a fun combo! The staff was friendly, efficient, and got us seated 15 minutes before our reservation. It's small, but they make it work. Definitely a good find.

This is hands down one of the beat meals I have had in awhile. I had the Lamb Ribs that were perfectly grilled. The Miso & Salad were match to go with the Wild Horse Pino noir. The sashimi was fresh & tasty the food presentation was tasteful along with the outstanding service. My wife had the Sea Bass which was a beautiful piece of fish perfectly grilled as well. Each bite would melt in your mouth. The veggies were julienned and quickly sautéed in olive oil as well as smoky in flavor. Shrimp tempura sweet, flavorful & big enough to have a good 5 bites. Spicy Tuna handle roll: great balance in between the sea weed wrap rice cucumber & spicy tuna. Each mouthful was washed down perfectly with that bottle of White Horse Pino Noir from Paso Robles.

I have been coming to O Fine Sushi for 4 years and has been the only place our family goes for sushi. We recently went & learned that the management has changed. I was disappointed to see that the staff had changed (who knew us so well that we didn't even order our favorite dishes, they brought to the table without us ordering), but expected the menu/service to be the same. Wrong. The menu has changed (no more of my favorite rolls) and the prices have gone up. The sushi chef was so pushy! He asked me what I was ordering within 30 seconds of sitting down, and asked 4 more times while I was clearly trying to read the new menu. He was overly pushy in getting me to order one of the specials. There was good service from the waiters & the food did taste good/fresh. The portion sizes have increased too, which may be favorable to some who are sharing plates. I would prefer the smaller portions/lower prices because our family orders individually, and I felt stuffed after leaving, rather than full. I'm going to try other sushi places in Laguna before going back here again.

I wish i could give this restaurant 4 star cause the service is great, the food presentation is nice and I love their decoration. However, non of the dishes impressed me. We ordered a glass of plum wine, small bottle of sake and several dishes: ikura and uni sushi, avocado volcano, poki salad with soba, uni shot, halibut with uni and caviar and salmon sushi with mango.... The worst was uni shot, too much ponzu and tobasco sauce little of uni and sake so it tasted like spicy vinegar. The bill was $180, quite high for an average sushi dinner

The food was just ok. It was pricey for what it was but worst of all was the service. It was outright rude!

I love this place. Go for the freshest sushi and friendly staff! I always love the wild red, golden or black snapper.

O has the best bento box I have ever had! Try the salmon box or the combination box - steak and fish - and you'll get a nice salad; rice and veggies. ( They have brow rice, YAY!! ) Their ponzu sauce is delicious! The owner is great and knows you by the name... Nice location, easy parking; good atmosphere and good lunch specials.

Based on the reviews here, the location and my past experiences with the Irvine Branch, I anticipated that thier sushi would atleast be fresh. Our spicy tuna roll was made of tasteless mush. Crunchy roll - average. Sashimi roll - very average. Miso was good. The Garlic Shishito Peppers I would give 4 stars. I should have ate a plate of shishito peppers. Everthing else gets a deserved 2.5. Our rolls were sloppy with different shapes and sizes. Some were falling apart on the plate. It was New Years Eve - maybe the chefs were over being there??? If they were tasty and sloppy I could accept it, but tastless and sloppy is a no go. I could teach a 12 year old how to make better looking rolls. We did happen to have a very friendly waitress. The Irvine location is much better. I personally will not eat thier again based on sushi that's just not good. Too many higher quality & fresh sushi options in Orange County.

Sushi was very fresh and tasty! I made a reservation but there was. No need as we got right in. They have a variety of rolls and quit I big menu. To me service is everything and can really make or break a place. This place had EXCELLENT service! They had some of the biggest rolls I've ever had at a sushi place as well! The only thing I would change is that I would like to receive all my food at once so I can alternate the rolls I'm eating. The server kept bringing our food one plate at a time then got to a point where she asked us if we still wanted out baked lobster roll. Why yes mam we wanted it, otherwise why else would we order it? It was getting late so we did pass and I was a little disappointed.

There's good sushi and awesome sushi. This is definitely aweseome sushi. Fresh and tasty and the perfect temperature. The fish was all beautiful. The tuna was a brilliant red and the salmon was a nice orange with perfect white stripes. The night I went they had a red snapper special, which had a delicious paste on the top with a fishy (in a good way) and citrus flavor to it. Service is great - very attentative and fast. I highly recommend O Fine.

This is a great little sushi restaurant located in a small strip mall in South Laguna. I really love the king salmon. Often I just get takeout to go. It's very busy, especially on the weekend, so get there early or late unless you have reservations.
