The early bird special used to be great, unique and special dishes. Now it's basic as f*ck. Not worth coming out to anymore for that. I'm sure the rest of the menu still tastes "fine", but it's pretty over priced for mediocre quality sushi...

12/18/13...Heidi was our chef and he was HORRIBLE! I'm usually there on the nights [M, Th - Sun] when Kyho [sp?] works he is on top of things listens and most importantly does NOT MESS UP EVERY ORDER Tonight I had: Tuna Tartare was on these triangle fried things = fried things = cold and not sure where the tuna was? Kobe Carpaccio is drowning in sauce and tastes let meat from the freezer section that you use for Philly Steaks Asked for the Crispy Garlic Sashimi and got just Salmon Sashimi took 40 mins to get acknowledgment and still did NOT get the correct item. Yeah, and I still had to pay for the bill and what P'O'd me off the most was the manager [dude in blue suit] came up to my side 2 times and not once said a thing that is so wrong. I will never come back and tell all my friends

Our server, Ashley, was amazing. She highly recommended the red Dragon roll, rainbow spider roll, and bbq eel which was delicious. The atmosphere was contemporary and nice. Go Ashley!

This review is for lunch only. They have some great combinations. The food quality is good. I would definitely return.

I have been to this place 3 times now and has been my favorite Sushi restaurant in the area. I've always had a good experience here...but the prices are pretty expensive. We always get kinda shocked at the end when we get our bill. Plan on spending at least 150-200 for dinner between 2 people. We tried the Kobe beef carpaccio, delicious, the spicy scallop hand rolls are really good. They make an excellent albacore tataki salad and an amazing miso sea bass. Actually everything I've had there was great. This I would say would be a special occasion restaurant though. I wish their prices were the $$ that they post it to be so I can be a regular. I would go once a week if it was! Good place just beware of an expensive bill.

My third time dining at this establishment. Sushi bar chef was very friendly and made a special roll for me. Front of house kept my drink full and cleared the plates as I finished each presentation. The plates were presented well and the portions were more than fair. The salmon skin rolls, seared albacore with crispy garlic chips were truly oeishi and balanced umami perfectly. Arigato! The chef initiated a conversation about my shirt (MMA) and was genuinely interested in my MMA combat experience. Great service does not end with what's on the plate, if you want a good experience check O Shushi out...you'll be pleased.

Food was top notch and the service as well! Love the baked lobster roll and crispy rice spicy tuna, yum!!!

This review is based on all the people in our party (22) that basically inhaled all the food as it came in waves by very friendly and efficient staff. Some of the menu items that went very fast were the Grilled Salmon Roll, Kobe Beef Roll, Crunch Tuna Tataki Roll and Rainbow Spider Roll. In all honesty having my roots in the Midwest I normally do not eat Japanese food but I found a few items I did like. But watching the large group I was with chow down I would say all the food was excellent. :) The presentation of the food was artistic and I will probably come back to check out other menu items like chicken and beef. I heard people in our group talking about how much they enjoyed the food so my review is based on what I ate and everything else that was eaten in our party. I would recommend this place for sure!

Came here for lunch during the week with a couple of co-workers. We all got bento boxes. I got the combination with salmon teriyaki and sashimi. I thought the salmon was slightly overcooked, but still decent. The sashimi was pretty fresh, so I enjoyed that. The one, lonely potsticker they gave was kind of sad. I felt bad for it, so I ate that first! It was a fairly decent amount of food for the price (I paid $14 after tax and tip), but my Titanic sized stomach was still a little hungry. Someone tell me how to sink the Titanic!!!

Sidney (Sydney?) is an awesome manager. Shina was our waitress and was on point. Fish was fresh, birru was cold, and ambiance was on point. Stand out items include the baked lobster roll and crunchy rice dish. Kanpai, oh my!

The sushi at O Fine is really good. We are very fussy and have high standards so I will say that there was lots of selection, the sushi was very fresh and tasted great! The atmosphere was also really pleasant and the service was pretty good although once it got more crowded, we did have to keep reminding our waitress about one of our sushi orders that she had forgotten. On the negative side, the prices are ridiculous! This restaurant is way overpriced and the sushi and sashimi pieces are very small for the expensive price. My problem is that I haven't found comparable sushi for a better price so I guess I will return based on that.

It's formal date night, which means my boyfriend and I splurge once a month on a date and dress up for the occasion. It was my turn to choose a place, and I came across O Fine Japanese Cuisine and after checking out the reviews, I decided to make reservations for Sunday night. We were seated right away, considering we arrived 15 minutes earlier than my reservation time, and our waitress was super friendly and helped explained everything. Chef choices (on the menu) and alcohol are 20% off Saturday - Tuesday. We ordered the 2 item combo (entree), which comes with rice, soup, and salad for $19.95. 1) Lamb chops were good, but not marinated enough. I felt it was missing the flavor. 2) Garlic beef is is a must try! The garlic sauce that comes with it is perfect. My boyfriend and I actually ended up taking the garlic sauce home, lol. 3) Lobster dynamite is delicious! They use real lobster, so none of that fake lobster stuff you may find at other restaurants. 4) The salad that comes with the entree has a very sweet dressing, but was a little drowned in it. The miso soup was delicious, but I didn't finish mine and the waitress accidentally took it away :( Service was very attentive and fast! We always saw a waitress either waiting tables or bringing out food, so it was quite easy to get their attention. They brought out our food quickly, and made sure our table was always clear of unwanted, empty dishes. I wished it was a little bit darker, just to add to the ambiance of it all. Some parts of the restaurant were really lit, and some were a little darker, but I definitely left O Fine Japanese Cuisine satisfied.

Coming here on friday night i was extremely pleased by the atmosphere. It has a good trendy vibe. Food quality was great, fish tasted fresh, I would say they use Top quality ingredients. Drinks were cheap too.... having to think about we did drink a lot last night..All alcohol was 30% off as well as the appetizers. I believe it was because of their anniversary. Well i am going to come back again with my friends again.

Finally, I have found some yummy sushi in Irvine! I would recommend sitting at the Sushi Bar for best service... As you get your order faster this way!!! Great for me, because I'm impatient! (Ask for Koki, he's awesome!) I LOVE the JALA, which is yellow tail sashimi with sliced jalepeno slivers and caviar. And they also make the best gigantic spicy tuna hand rolls. They are located in the Quail Hill Shopping Center, which is pretty convenient, but parking is a bummer cuz this center is almost always popping!

  • Lauren B.

What a shame. This time was not as good. Fish was not as Fresh and there was too much rice. My partner in crime disliked the yellowtail belly so much he spit it out. It that frishy. The regular yellowtail still had the blood line in it, which made it even fisher!!! They were nice enough to take that order off our tab. But I don't know what happened? Whether being at the sushi bar helps? Or the person who made our sushi wasn't as good? I am sad. Really. However, their tofu yakudoshi was great with the Bollinger we brought. :) Maybe next it will be good again? :( btw. the fish taste was still in mouth when I got home.

Been here a few times since it is so close to home. I would come here more often but the price is a little high. I came for happy hour and the menu only has 4 rolls (the cheap ones anyways!!). Pretty disappointing happy hour.

My date and I came here and it was just around opening time, we had a reservation later that night but we decided that we were hungry so we just came in anyway. We tried the tempura combo as appetizers. Got a few rolls in. The wait wasn't too long. All were delicious since I ate more than my date did. The food was great, I had nothing to complain about until the end. The server had asked if we were finished and we said yes but it was just weird at how they didn't offer dessert? Do they have dessert? I wanted some mochi or something. If not, then good to know! And when another server had put down the paid bill, there was no pen provided? Maybe because I just work at a fine dining restaurant and I'm quite observant about these things but I would think a bit higher scale sushi/Japanese restaurant like this one would cover basic etiquette. I would definitely come back again. I'm hoping the service would be a bit better, in a good way. Overall, not a bad experience, just the little things I was meticulous about.

I had higher expectations for this place based on the reviews. I thought the food was good but overpriced. The staff was nice but a bit disorganized and inattentive. I will say the decor is nice but a bit out of place in this shopping center. Overall, unless you live in the area this place is just OK and probably a pass in my book.

Some of the worst service I have ever had. Sushi quality has gone down since the last few times I have been here....maybe new owners? We ordered two waters and they brought only one, we had to ask for another one. We ordered two Miso soups and they only brought one and we had to ask for the other one. We ordered two exact same lunch specials and they only brought one. One person had to wait while the other ate. Then the bill came and it was incorrect and we had to wait some more for them to fix it. Then they didn't come get the check so I walked it up to them. When I came here before there was a long wait and it was worth it. Today the place was only 20% full at 12:30pm and service was horrible. Everything took forever. Will not come back.

Wanted to try a different sushi locale in Irvine, and friend recommended this place based on Yelp ratings. I was disappointed. Here are my opinions: Ambience: I liked the interior - nice and trendy, but attire was casual. Service: Ok - server was very polite, but forgot a few of our orders. Food: I agree with a previous reviewer, not authentic sushi. For this price point, head over to Tokyo Table.

Great selection of rolls. Decent quality. The uni was edible but not the best uni I've tried. Great service. The restaurant was very clean and ambiance was great. This is the sushi place to go to if you want rolls. It has nigiri and sashimi but i've had better. The rolls are not covered in mayonnaise or other rich sauces (more of a light ponzu if any). I will definitely be back :) My favorite sushi restaurants are: Nana San - newport Ohshima - orange Full Moon - tustin

I came here to order 2 rolls to-go. I waited about 10-15 min. And when it came out the manager, Sydney, mumbled something that could have ranged anywhere from "have a good day" to "fuck you"... God knows what he muttered under his breath. I politely nodded and received what i thought to be my order. I drove home opened the boxes and turns out he gave me the WRONG order. So I came back and said I wanted a refund and he gave me my money back. Obviously I would also want my food? Common sense. I didn't drive a total of 30 minutes to walk out starving so i had to reorder my sushi and paid FULL PRICE. The manager Sydney clearly doesn't know what good customer service is. All the other workers seemed nice but the manager is an ass. He insinuated that it was my fault??? He kept saying he said the name and I should have known it wasn't my order because it wasn't my name. If he had CLEARLY said the name and repeated the order as well, then obviously I would not have taken the order... I know my own name, and order. How rude to blame the customer... I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. He also should've checked the receipt because it said the person didn't pay yet and he watched me walk out of the store. I work at a restaurant myself and therefore am familiar with the proper etiquette regarding take out orders. Someone trained well would clearly repeat not only the name, but also the contents of the order just to double check. That's just good customer service and I would expect even more from someone titled "manager". Giving an order to the wrong person is an embarrassingly amateur mistake. O fine has good food but needs better management. If he continues to manage this restaurant I can guarantee a loss of customers.

This is about the most mediocre sushi I've ever had; to be expected in Irvine, I suppose. I mean, the place does share a wall with Sharky's, and from what I've witnessed, the latter tends to draw a bigger lunch crowd. The quality of food from the two places is about comparable, but you'll definitely get your food faster if you choose Sharky's. The sushi is pretty "meh". Not super fresh, but it also doesn't taste fishy. I tend to avoid the more adventurous stuff here and go for basics like tuna, salmon, and snapper. I've no desire to try the more luxurious items (uni, monkfish liver) because I'm fairly certain they would disappoint me. Pretty much the only reason I go (and will likely return) is because they are located close to my office, and there's never much of a lunch crowd. Lunch specials are reasonably priced at $11-13 for each combination, of which there is a very nice variety whether you're looking for teriyaki, katsu, noodles, sashimi, or tempura. sushi: mediocre service: mediocre (hit and miss, depending on the day and time) food: mediocre ambience/decor: good

Everything was good and fast and the sushi was COLD! Just the way I like it. The Hummingbird was very tasty and different. California Roll and Crunch Roll were pretty standard. The Udon is HUGE. Good for 2.

Great sushi! Honestly the most beautiful plate of fish I have ever seen, get the O roll, the caviar (first time having it ever) was so beautiful and made the roll exciting and tasty. A lil pricey but I'll be back. The chef was hilarious too, we sat at the blue lit up bar, it was a lot of fun and classy.

I have been there 3 times, and I was amazed and satisfied every time. We ordered the $35 omakase yesterday, the first day they started. It comes in 3 plates. First plate is salmon tataki and two other fish dishes. So amazing! three different flavors, all so delicious! Second plate is Kobe beef carpaccio, soft shell crab, and lamb. Kobe beef is so tender and flavorful. Soft shell crab is the best I ever had. I don't eat lamb, but my friend couldn't stop complimenting it. It must be good because we all have very picky taste buds. Third plate includes shrimp tempura and cold soba. All good! It concludes with claim soup and ice cream. We also ordered monkfish liver, which is my all time favorite! The chef is so talented. The waiter and waitress are very friendly is knowledgable. We sat until very late yet they were still so nice and polite. This is my favorite Japanese restaurant now! P.S. My suggestion: switch place for Kobe beef carpaccio and lamb. Kobe beef tastes better if eaten right away, and will be easier to eat from the right. Lamb stick is perfect for the left hand:D. Just my 2 cents opinion as a right-handed.

Good stuff here. Sexy laguna roll is bomb with pickled wasabi (ask for it on the side too, so delicious) Consistently good yellowtail and salmon. Randomly generous portions. Fatty tuna on occasion. Bomb garlic teriyaki sauce and good meat.

  • Tammy M.

We have been to a few sushi places but this is our favorite! We have never been disappointed with the service or the food. The sushi is incredibly fresh and the service is awesome. Get the Sexy Laguna roll, it's amazing. Get the pickled wasabi if you order any sashimi (some will come with it) because it's wayyy better than regular wasabi. Whenever we want good sushi, we come back here.

This place has a modern look and feel. So modern, they like to play DJ Jazzy Jeff in the background...well not really...but it's definitely not a soothing Japanese like atmosphere. The sushi was decent. We went omakase style, but I wasn't awed by the look, feel and taste. I saved the chu-toro piece for last but it was a moot point. That taste was pretty consistent with the other sushi pieces. I was hoping for that "melt in your mouth" feeling, but again, just another regular nigiri piece just like the rest. But I would definitely come back for the server girl with the glasses. Very pretty. I thinking I'm falling in love. ****Dear Taiwanese server girl with the glasses. Yah you...you served us on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at approximately 6pm with a party of 8. It was my birthday and you gave me a green tea ice cream. You must be a Yelper too so I'm hoping you would read this. How do I know? Well...1) You work and live in Irvine and 2) you're Asian. I would like to ask you out some time. Please contact me here. =) **** ****Dear other Yelpers. Please find this Asian girl with glasses. Not that hard to find. okthxbai**** Or maybe I should just go back there and just ask her out?!? Duh right?

Let me start by saying that I am in no way a sushi connoisseur. I simply enjoy it or I don't, and I lack the vocabulary or knowledge to express why. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised when I found this little restaurant. There was a wide range of rolls and appetizers and we sampled quite a few things (I can't remember exact names, but one was a Kobe beef appetizer that was delicious). Service was quick and kind and gave detailed explanations of what to expect. I definitely enjoyed the experience and would eat there again.

The first time I came here the Hamachi Toro made me jizz in my pants. Yes, it was that good -- or should I say, O fine? But the second time I came here, the Hamachi tasted almost rotten and I had to spit it out. So to say the least, the quality here is very hit or miss. In any case, if you decide to come here, get the Agedashi Tofu. It's aces.

Not your traditional sushi, its kind of fusion. We always get the o sushi roll and their omakase, all very good. Good quality, ok prices.

it was like entering into a matrix going into O. everything about this place is kind of unique, the name O, the upscale trendy blue themed interior, the hanging beads and glass table with blue lit light, and the glass plates that they use for ginger and such, so I was sold right away. This could be easily one fo the hottest date spot, a fancy place to go to. From outside, you could hardly notice this placce is at the corner, let alone know its such a cool looking place. Now the employee orchestrating service is kind of very scattered. They were kind of very random, walking around sometime they check on you sometime they dont, and at times we were left wondering who to call to ask for anything. We tried to flag whoever in a 3 feet vicinity - now that oculd be ok at sam woo , but that soo didnt go well with the decor. Step it up O! you can do it! On to the food, I tried the humming bird - tempura shishito pepper with some tuna thing in the middle. I was hoping for a dish with some kick to it, but just fell flat, and nothign i remember of this dish. it wasnt filling or tasty. The tuna cracker roll was not bad. and i ordered a bowl of miso souop for $1.50, which was good. THeir saki/wine list seems good. the prices from what I glanced wasnt that expensive. Chilean seabass could be the expensive dish at 18 or 19$s. I woudl come here on days I feel like i want to go to a niceplace. but if i feel like i want to eat japanese food, i might check myself in at FUkada, they have food which is tons of times better and good! Its not a bad place just not a great one at the moment. but i am sure they have their work cut out already!

OMG.... I was searching for a great place to go for lunch... its a good thing i called my Sis. She suggested that we meet up at "O", and OH MY was this place great. Everything was so fresh and mouth watering. We ordered: Baked lobster w/ snow crab ------ Outstanding Yellowtail Belly -------- Melts in your mouth good Sexy Roll -------- Exploding w/ flavors & spicy Tofu ------- Vegetarian delight Octopus Cucumber Salad ------- Refreshing These were a few that we ordered & everything was beyond my expectation. Once here, you'll never want to go else where for Sushi. MUST VISIT!!!!

Decided to try this place with a friend who lives in the area for dinner. We walked in and were instantly greeted by the friendly staff. We were escorted to our table and took a seat. Upon sitting down we noticed, this place could easily be turned into a lounge given the ambiance of the place and the style of furniture. Had a Miami, FL feel to it, but the music selection was off. We reviewed the menu, which is large. The sushi menu is HUGE. Usually, I go crazy when I order sushi but this time I didn't. I noticed that the chicken teriyaki plate, which is $13.95 and comes with miso soup, salad, rice and chicken teriyaki. The combo with sashimi is $17.95 and comes with 7 or 9 pieces of sashimi (I can't remember). I thought, what a great deal!!!! Will definitely keep that in mind next time. I ordered a cut roll of tuna and chicken teriyaki. I loved the cut roll of tuna because it came with the seaweed on the outside, versus inside. That's how I love it! The pieces were small though, not as generous as I would've imagined. The chicken was glazed/sauced well, I wish the chicken was grilled a little more but overall it was tasty. The rice could've been a little fresher but it was alright. My friend ordered the Soft Shell Crab Karaage (enjoyed it) and ordered the mixed tempura combo which came with miso soup, salad, rice and the main entree. The mixed tempura came with 4 pieces of shrimp tempura and several pieces of veggies - the batter looked light and crunchy. We both enjoyed our orders. The service was great, they are really on top of it. Maybe too much. But the staff was very friendly, and explained things well. I'll definitely order and try more sushi next time.

First time dining at O Sushi. The atmosphere is delightful . The whole staff is super accommodating and very friendly. gotta agree with justin b. on this place and really as the 2-stars says "Meh. I've experienced better." located in the quail hill plaza, O Fine looks pretty cool inside with wateraflls and blue lighting. had no trouble getting seated around 730 on a wed. we didnt sit at the sushi bar and opted for a table instead which based on previous reviews may have led to my dinner fail? i think the food is definitely overpriced for what you get. i got the sesame chicken dinner combo that comes with 3 pieces of shrimp tempura which cost me $17 -seems high to me cuz at other restaurants i can get a 3-item combo for that price. pretty decent serving of food and it tasted ok and everything but just wasnt impressed. whats even worse is that we waited and waited for our food. the manager and our server were very apologetic b/c of our long wait time...but saying sorry doesnt make my food come out any faster haha. i understand maybe the food from the kitchen takes longer to cook, but cutting up a slice of fish and putting it on a slab of rice really shouldnt take that long haha. if i were to come back here, i'd prob only try out their lunch specials which start at $9...

This place looks like a lounge. But the food is really good and it's got a lot of different specialities that are all awesome. If you're into that stuff then come here. If you want that traditional sushi experience then this place probably won't cut it for you( although the sushi is good too) Sunrise sushi - sunny side up egg with your sushi. Surprisingly really really good! Yellow carpaccio- standard dish. Solid. Avocado and spicy tuna- another standard that was consistent with what you expect to get. Avocado and soft shell crab- they add their own twist on it but this was a great dish to share. Chilean sea bass- bass is cooked very well. Super moist and flavorful. Definitely worth ordering. Monkfish liver- REALLY good. I loved this. The service is attentive, prices are reasonable, nice setting. Probably one of the better sushi places in irvine for sure.

Do not get the O sushi. Do. Not. Not worth it. On the other hand, the Japanese burrito is a palate rush! The portion is a little small, but the taste is great and the preparation is exquisite! I find it comparable to the Samurai burrito at Wafu of Japan on Bristol. The blue lighting & the waterfall are nice touches.

I came here and ordered a couple of baked sushi rolls with my mother. The interior is very nice, so it'd be a nice place to take a date or bring someone for a special occasion. However, the sushi served was just okay, and I feel like it didn't justify the price. Maybe I will return to show someone the cool interior, but otherwise I won't be back.

The place looks nice and modern. The service was good. However, the quality of the uni doesn't meet the price at all. Even the sashimi on the of the rainbow row was not great.

With a name like O Fine, I thought for sure it would be an authentic Japanese Sushi spot to add to my rotation of Sand Canyon area eateries. Wellllll, it has potential because of their lunch specials but it's just not my cup of ocha. We came here for lunch to try it out. It was before the heavy lunch crowd so we had our pick of seats. We sat at a booth since my friend wanted a bento type lunch instead of just sushi. I sat in the bench side and immediately asked my friend if we could switch seats. The bench back is so far from the edge of the seat that it was very uncomfortable for me since I was having lower back issues that day. Not comfortable at all. The chair was nice though. The interior itself was very trendy. We both ordered bento boxes, mine with Salmon Shioyaki and Sashimi and his was Chicken Teriyaki and California Roll. Safe choices we thought. You can tell a lot from a restaurant's sashimi selection. Our food was prompt since it was not crowded. I looked down....Salmon Teriyaki. Bleh. Instead of returning it, I just scraped off that gooey mess off my pretty decent looking piece of Salmon. It was cooked well and tasted okay. Now to the Sashimi. I was given Maguro, Sake, and Hamachi. Good portion size. My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that all the pieces were slightly mushy, even the hamachi. Hamachi usually has a very slight bite to it which is probably the reason I love it so much. Very disappointed. The maguro was flash frozen I think because it was not firm at all. I'm glad I didn't order just sushi. My pretentious a$$ would have been very sad. My friends dishes were good according to him. I still don't like the slathering of teriyaki sauce all over the meat. Moderation is key for me. Again, pretentious. The best and funniest thing in the whole box were the sides. ONE, yes one, ONE piece of takuan alone in its own little compartment. It's almost like someone accidentally dropped it in there. This lonely takuan made me sad. ahaha. Also, one deep fried gyoza came with the box. The filling was good but I'm just not into deep fried gyoza for some reason. It's not a normal side and it's not the normal way of cooking gyoza. Service was good. Our drinks were never empty. I could see myself coming here at night with a bunch of friends or with my wife and having a pretty good time dropping bombs and snacking on rolls but for a serious foodie, this would not cut it for them. Yes, I'm the picky one. I know. So if you're like me, you will say the same things as me. If you are normal and not a-retentive, this place is clean, well-run, well-staffed, and has good food. Try them out for yourselves.

My wife and I went to this place a few nights ago. It's great! Good food and great sake. The only problem is that it could get expensive. But then again, you are at a sushi place. Over all great experience.

A 3-star at best. I usually try to avoid the sushi + Irvine combination, but was meeting others who chose the spot. FOOD: The fish and rice were kind of lacking, and it's a bit pricey on top of that. SERVICE: It took over 10 minutes for them to 'set up a table' for us in the back room where there were no other patrons. It took another 10 to get waters for the table. I had to track someone down to give them our order after waiting far too long. The setting of this place is "clean", but it feels uncomfortable, staged.. too weird for me. Even if the service was better, I would not return based on the food.

Pros: Friendly service, sesame chicken, shrimp tempura Cons: Slow service, sushi was just ok, high prices New sushi spot in Irvine with 4-star average? I'm there. In retrospect, however, I think I should have waited a couple more months to see if the average stabilized. I went here yesterday with Kristin C. hoping to find a new sushi gem in Irvine. Unfortunately, the sushi here was just okay. Moreover, it was kinda overpriced. $5 bucks for plain old mackerel. Seriously? I got yellowtail, halibut, and salmon and they were just "meh." Not bad, but not super good either. The service here was kinda slow too. I think we waited a good 30-40 minutes just to get all of our food. So why a 3-star review? With that kind of criticism, my review should have been 2 stars right? Well, although the service was slow, our server was really nice. Obviously, not an excuse for slow service, but it counts to me. Also their sesame chicken and shrimp tempura were pretty good too. Lunch here is probably a better deal so if you really wanna check this place out, you should go then instead.

Wanted to find a nice place for a prom dinner with friends and we wanted some good sushi. Food was great, service polite but slow and they forgot some of our orders. On the more expensive side and the sushi was westernized. Overall great experience, good for a nice dinner once in a while.

Excellent sushi, good service, 20% off on Tuesdays, awesome! Honestly, great quality sushi and the flavors are worth coming back for. Garlic rose yellowtail was delicious, poki nachos were great too, quality toro.

My search is over! I have found the holy grail of sushi in Irvine! I've been sorely disappointed in local food options since moving back to Irvine from Long Beach. I've been down a long trail of disappointing sushi dinners for the last three years. A year ago, I decided that I would never find a place to rival my love for Sushi Studio. But as in love, it is when you stop looking that you find it. O Fine, I must confess my love for you. Your menu of daily specials and live options and oh so fresh and flavorful rolls fills my every need. We have not yet celebrated an anniversary, but I hope that this relationship will endure the years.

I found this restaurant on yelp 4 stars and decided to give it a try. My first impression of the restaurant was WOW the decors are really nice and upscale. The service was great as well, good quality sushi and generous cut. I think this place is great for first date or any special occasions.

Always love going wether its just a hangout or a group diner. Service is always good and the food is worth the extra you pay. Its way better than your run of the mill sushi place because of the quality of fish. Had gone one day for lunch and the head chef was cutting up a fresh tuna.

My husband and I recently went to O Fine Japanese Cuisine and notice several things.........new chairs, minimal interior changes and a new menu. My husband eats sushi although I do not, so I am a teriyaki chicken person. With this being said I am searching on the menu for the chicken dish and must ask the waiter, he says here it is and by the way everything is a la carte. I ask what the teriyaki chicken comes with assuming at least rice, he says no just the chicken! So you mean I have to,pay extra for rice? He says, yes. Wow, the chicken was $13 and it comes with nothing........that is like going to a me I an restaurant with no chips! Moving on, the prices were extremely high and the quality was extremely low! My chicken did not taste right and the sushi was made with a lot of rice. We will not be going back to this restaurant again. My husband was in bed the next day with a bad stomach ache and I had a migraine, not something you want after eating at a restaurant! I recommend going to another restaurant for anyone who likes Japanese food! Two thumbs down for O Fine Japanese Cuisine! Yuck!

If you follow my reviews, you'll know that I LOVE Japanese food... and I LOVE sashimi, nigiri, and sushi rolls! I was super excited to hear about O Fine Japanese Cuisine opening up in Irvine. Although there is a ton of different sushi joints in the Irvine area, O Fine has some quality fish which is exactly what you want from a Japanese sushi bar. Upon entering the decor is very modern. The chic decor is reminiscent of land and sea meeting. The ocean like walls gives the whole joint a great ambiance and the waterfall wall to the left of the entrance is relaxing and quite pleasant. We sat at the sushi bar with Sushi Chef Koki (or Kori? or something that stars with a K and ends in an I) Anyway, he was Japanese! Huge plus. Many of the sushi joints I go to have non-Japanese sushi chefs... He was friendly, attentive and very entertaining. Here's what we ordered: Sashimi: Halibut - Thinly sliced served with a spicy ginger mixed with a sweet soy sauce mixture. One of my favs, the halibut was super fresh and went amazingly well with the spicy ginger sauce. Octopus - quite generally sliced portion. I'm not usually a fan but thought it was OK. Salmon - fresh and fatty Tuna - super fresh Yellowtail Belly - DELICIOUS. My fav of the night. Super fatty-melt-in-your-mouth yummy sashimi. Everything was served well decorated on different plates with beautiful garnishing. We also ordered: O Roll - which I figured was their signature roll. It was a work of art! The roll came out pre-sliced, I believe 6-8 different slices. I believe it was a spicy tuna with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snow crab, avocado, and asparagus rolled in cucumber and topped with caviar. It was so beautiful it looked better than it tasted. Don't get me wrong though, it tasted good... maybe great but I wish I could have tasted all of the ingredients separately when I shoved it into my mouth. But since I couldn't, I started to break apart the roll and ate different pieces with different bites and that was just great! Overall the ambiance is casual yet chic. The service may have been slow at times but I'm sure the employees are still training. The sushi chefs seem quite legit. I would be back. Ambiance + 1/1 star (great interior designing!) Food + 2/2 star (super fresh fish!) Service + 0.5/1 star (slow on the refills and plates but sushi chefs were awesome!) Value +0.5/1 star (not the cheapest... but sushi never is, especially good sushi!) Overall +4/5 stars for a "Yay! I'm a fan" review.

This place changed names from Mitsui to O Fine Japanese Cuisine a little while back, and I don't know if the owners changed as well. Either way, the quality of the food has remained solid with a little upgraded ambiance. My friend was working here when it first opened, so I received great service and a lot of comp'ed drinks :D Overall friendly atmosphere, solid sushi and rolls, and a good selection of udon and teriyaki stuff for the kids to enjoy. Again, I am not critiquing this place based on the same standards that I hold for real fine dining restaurants like Roy's or Fleming's so keep things in perspectives. You will not be blown away, but you'll still have a good time and get some decent sushi. Pros: -Ambiance -Service -Quality rolls at middle of the road prices Cons: -Gets pretty crowded on weekends -Joseph

Ok I admit it. I had the Chilean sea bass misoyaki and I shouldn't because it's on the non environmentally friendly fish list. And it was delicious, as good as I have had in Tokyo. This place is pricey and worth the money. The sushi was good but the cooked food was even better.

Nice atmosphere, pricier sushi, omakase available..... Located in this strip of restaurants and the Albertsons so the inside was not what I was expecting. We stepped inside and were greeted by friendly hosts and a modern atmosphere with accents of blue lights and sleekness. Sushi was decent, pretty fresh and in the higher end price range. I think that was the thing that made it a 3 for me. I've had sushi just as good if not better than O Fine for cheaper. Maybe you pay for the ambiance then. Our party of 8 for Mike C.'s bday had the sushi chef prepare us whatever he wanted ala omakase. Happy Birthday Rewtenant! We had a couple of waitresses help us out. We asked one of them if they had sushi boats we could order since we had a large party. But she looked at us like we were crazy and shook her head no. Then we see some other waitress strut by carrying a sushi boat to another table. What the %&^^&*(*??? So we asked the other waitress again for a sushi boat and she said yes. Mmmmhhmmmm.... Will probably be back to help Mikey C find our Taiwanese waitress. Wing girl duties!

You walk up to the corner of a happening plaza. A giant O beckons you. Walking up to the entrance you aren't quiet sure if the place is open. Shades are down and it's hard to see if any lights are on. It is. Just open the door. Inside awaits you a sophisticated and upscale restaurant. Two sushi chef masters are quickly making orders, and a server swoops in to welcome and seat you. It's almost dreamy in the color scheme and tiny glass tile backsplash everywhere. Is this a snotty establishment? Not at all. The chefs are great: friendly, and with a sense of humor; the best kind. Servers are direct and honest about the menu giving you great recommendations. The hand rolls by far are my favorite. Baked mussels, and other appetizers not so much. I'd skip that. Hideki our ole buddy from San Shi Go in Laguna Beach started there recently. Really sweet guy and his handrolls are amazing. I don't know what he does, but EVERY handroll he makes is art and tasty perfection. I'm pretty sure we're addicted to just the handrolls. Slightly on the pricey side, but worth it and reasonable in terms of sushi pricing. Some things are hit and miss, but if you order sashimi and nigri and of course handrolls; it's out of the park everytime.

O Fine Japanese Cusine Restaurant is amazing! The sashami is fresh. I ordered salmon, white tuna, and albacore. Also, had the seabass which was grilled in a miso paste that was delish. The decor of the restaurant is contemporary and is clean. Sake and Wines were also 20% off as they had about 40 different selections to choose from. Great accomendating customer service.

Maybe it because I am a sushi snob but I was less than impressed with the quality of fish they were serving today at lunch. The hirame had a very fishy taste that even the ponzu couldn't mask. The yellow tail toro was nothing to write home about either. Their scallop sushi was something they mixed with mayo and their tuna toro was lack luster. Save your money and go somewhere else if you're looking for some serious sushi. Good thing there are many more sushi restaurants in Irvine. I don't think I will be going back to this place.

My wife picked out this sushi bar. I was not sure what to expect as I haven't really read much about it. Its located in a small plaza nearby a housing community. The decor was cool, and clubby but not obnoxious. I actually really liked the ambiance. We sat at the bar and the sushi chef was very attentive. Sushi quality was awesome! We ordered Hamachi belly, Ono, Uni, Salmon roe, and a rainbow spider roll. They were all amazing. Seemed like everyone in the restaurant were regulars and everyone was having fun, which made it more fun. The staff really know what they are doing and they pack some very good fish! This is on pair with my other favorite...Nana San...but I may like O Fine better since its not really crowded and the ambiance is slightly better.

I came here with my family last night for my graduation dinner. The decor and everything is nice. The staff were friendly except this one guy who I found rather rude. That's the only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five. I ordered the Scallop Dynamite with Snow Crab dinner combo. For the price you pay, you get a quality meal. The fish was fresh and the meal was delicious. Definitely worth the money. If I had a job, I'd come here more often. However, I am a rather broke college graduate right now...maybe another time. The atmosphere was nice and definitely a great place to bring a date. SGV really need more of these kinds of restaurants.

First time and I was NOT impressed. Server forgot our edamame and blamed it on cooks when she forgot. After waiting 20 min. she comes and says the kitchen is out of salmon and asks what I would like instead without givng me a menu. Then my coworker gets her food, I'm still waiting and so I ask for the manager. I tell him what happened and he not only brings my food, he brought me the salmon!! The manager apologized, gave me some mochi and discounted my bill but it ruined our meal and experience

Fish is fresh, staff is great, but the prices are steep. Their have been several sushi restaurants (different ownerships) at the same location and we ate at the last one once a week. We come to O about once a month as a splurge. The scallop dynamite appetizer is great if you liked cooked fish and the Hawaiian roll is delicious too!

I came here with a couple of friends to visit a friend at work and grab dinner at the same time. I have been to O Fine in Laguna and had a great experience so I couldn't imagine anything less from O Fine Irvine. I've lived in Irvine for years now and not once have I stepped foot in this plaza. I know for sure that I will be coming back. So much new food to try! It is a pretty busy plaza though! The parking lot was quite big and we still had a little trouble getting parking. The inside looked like a scene from a futuristic movie. Dimly lit and blue lights galore. A bit overwhelming for my taste. Plus blue lights aren't good for your eyes. This O Fine was much bigger than the Laguna store. The sushi bar had 5 chefs! Somewhat unheard of but made ordering very fast! We took a seat at the bar and started ordering off the bat. I got the white tuna sashimi, yellowtail hamachi nigiri, O roll, and a special item from our chef. Everything just melted in our mouths that night. Freshness to the utmost level. The O roll was definitely interesting. It was a combination of different fish wrapped in hollowed out piece of cucumber. It was good but it was difficult to cheap everything from falling apart. The chef special was seared white tuna combined with capers, steamed asparagus, onions, and ponzu sauce to top. It was great! The chef made a piece for everyone. Our chef recognized me from the other O Fine so he gave out group a complementary plate of baked salmon. It was a nice treat while we waited in between items! Next thing that I want to try that the chefs recommend is the Chilean sea bass! Til next time I guess!

Our neighborhood sushi bar. At first we had remorse that the owners of Mitsui shut down our Friday night dinner spot, but are more than happy to have O as our new sushi fix. I love the interior, although it seems like it would fit better in a bigger, more hip city like Chicago or San Francisco. The food is amazing, the ama ebi is to die for, and its walking distance from the house. What more do you need in life?

This place is a great place to bring your friends or date on a Friday night. The decor is very contemporary and upscale but still has a cozy feel to it. The service is great - meaning fast and attentive. The food is fantastic. I'm not into hand rolls so I judge them by the freshness of their fish - it's top notch. They even have an awesome lunch menu that's a slight blend of Chinese and Japanese. The flavors are awesome and within lunch budget. The chef sent us a miso cod and OMG it's to die for. Between Taiko and O Fine - I would rather go to O Fine. No lines, open romantic atmosphere that my boyfriend and I can enjoy without the screaming kids, and great food.

Not to shabby for a sushi spot in Irvine. Their menu is freaking huge, and their lunch deals are pretty good. Their sushi is actually decent as well! This place isn't like the other spots in Irvine. The decor is good enough to impress the date ;) I thought their sushi was pretty good, I liked that you can actually taste their tuna and albacore, like it actually tasted the way it is supposed to. strange concept for sushi, right? I admit, their snapper wasn't ace, and they had a salmon nigiri that wasn't on point, but their sashimi made up for it (sashimi version of the nigiri) I'd come back for lunch especially, wicked deals. Service, was just okay. They didn't check up on us after our food. But at least they were courteous.

As promised, I came to the Irvine restaurant to check it out since I'm a new loyal patron of the original O Fine in Laguna Beach. It was rainy 9pm last night and some sashimi and sake sounded really romantic for my tired soul. What a great pick me up! When I entered O Fine, I realized how similar the décor looked to the Laguna restaurant. The soft blue lighting and the original "O" of O Fine made me feel slightly at home. The quality of sashimi also brought about the cozy feeling of a raw night. As similar as the quality, décor, and prices, I didn't quite feel all at home here in the Irvine restaurant (even though I live less than 5 miles away). What was different was the service. Although my server was courteous and polite during the meal, the quality kind of tipped as it got close to closing time. My check was brought to me before I asked for it, so seeing that they were probably in a rush to close, I laid my card out for their convenience; however I was not done eating. Nonetheless, all our dinnerware was collected. I miss my Laguna Beach peepz because they just always know how to make you feel at home even though we would waltz in there at 9pm. They engage in friendly conversation with you and always ask you how you're feeling before they engage in your meal. What was also missing was the beachside; no matter how much sake you had drunk, you're still always feeling good once you walk outside and take a deep slow breath of the ocean breeze. The 4 stars are for the quality of food and decent prices and for the nice lady that gave me a plastic bag to put over my head before I left to the pouring rain. I would definitely be seeing my Laguna peepz again.

Came here with a friend for her birthday. We got 2 Dinner Combo plates, one with Salmon teriyaki and Miso Seabass and the other with Prime ribeye steak teriyaki and Garlic beef. Out of the fish dishes, the seabass was the best (i don't mind the fishy tast of seabass) because the Salmon was a bit dry. The garlic beef was better than the ribeye steak because the garlic beef was more tender and the ribeye was too fatty. I suggest the Jumai Ginjo Sake set (good value) if you want to taste 3 types of sake. When we were just about to take off, they came out with a complimentary green tea ice cream with a candle for my friend, which was nice. We had 3 different servers attend to us so we weren't sure which server was assigned to our table the whole time.

This place blew me away!!!! Best sushi place I have ever eaten at in my life!!! My taste bud for sushi has been forever changed!! Got the lobster crunch roll and oh my goodness it was just unbelievably delicious!! There were a great amount of fried lobster chunks on top of the california crunch rolls and it was just sooo delicious!!! And I also got the calamari appetizer. Uhm can I just say that I have never ordered calamari at such a great price! it was only about $5 and something cents! Usually I get calamari at the cost of around $8 or $11. And on top of it, the calamari was to die for! It was really good and it came with this yummy sauce!!

I took three guests from Beijing here to get their daily rice fix, and we all came away satisfied. In fact, they started making plans to go back almost immediately. I have eaten lunch here before and found the bento boxes to be tasty and economical. This trip with my Beijing guests was for dinner. Sea Bass in miso in combo with sashimi, Salmon terriyaki in combo with spicy tuna rolls, even lamb chops -- all were quite good and reasonably priced. With miso soup and brown rice, it was almost more than we could eat. (But too good to leave any). The decor and atmosphere here is very nice and the staff was wonderful, from the ABC Chinese server to another server who is half Chinese, half German. Friendly and attentive. All in all, a real surprise for Irvine.

Okay so the food wasn't too bad but the service was horrible. I'm sure I had a bad experience but I won't be back. I went in to dine and ordered some appetizers that never came out, was charged for them. Had some miso soup and they charged Me for it also, although it was part of the dinner combo. They were busy but it's no excuse when people around you are being seated and dining before you even get your food. When people come in and out before your even done dining, wow. It was probably just a bad experience but I won't recommend it and I surely won't be back.

I got their baked scallop roll under their O specialties or whatever it was named.... there were too many rolls to choose from so I don't remember the exact name. The sushi roll itself was pretty big and filling. It was a California roll topped with baked scallops, onions, and mushrooms. I never had onions and mushrooms on a sushi roll before so I thought I'd try it.. it was OK but I probably wouldn't order it again. The roll was expensive in my opinion ($16) and the waiter asked if i wanted to pay $1 extra for real crab meat, rather than imitation crab. I decided to get the real crab meat since I figured I was paying so much already, but I suggest you don't pay extra because you can't really taste the real crab meat since the rolls come with so much toppings. Service was good. Atmosphere is nice/romantic. Presentation of food: A+

Stopped by here for the first time and really had a great lunch. Things got off to a great start when I ordered the garlic edamame -- which was hands down the best appetizer I had as far as I can remember (oh so garlicy)! The main platter was a solid as well. Tasty miso sauce drizzled salad with rich tasting teriyaki salmon, crunchy mixed tempura and good California rolls. Service was very very attentive and extremely friendly (literally no empty cup or plate stayed on our table longer than a minute!). The very relaxing and soothing modern interior design tops it all off.

I'll start by saying that I do not yelp much but I felt the need to do so only because of the poor experience I had last night. My wife and I have been avid sushi eaters (once or twice per week) for more than 12 years. We went on our "date night" last night and our sushi chef was Justin. All was okay until we had ordered the sea bass cut roll that my neighbors sitting next to me had just had. Justin specifically told me "No, you can't have it, the kitchen is very busy right now and it will take too long." I looked at my wife in total and complete shock and disbelief as I have never been told anything like this (and we eat out A LOT). I asked Justin exactly how long it would take to prepare this roll and he said "15 to 20 minutes." So, I told him, don't worry I'll wait. Please make the roll for us. So they did. The neighbors sitting next to us (they had a different chef) couldn't believe it either. In my opinion, this is completely unacceptable. He could have told me they were sold out, he could have told me that the sea bass was not very fresh, or he could have easily told me that it would take 15-20 minutes and asked if that was okay or if i had any issues waiting that long. It's not like I wanted him to go out and catch the fish. Don't ever tell a paying customer that they can't have something that is in stock (especially when the person sitting right next to me got it from another chef). Although I am of African-American descent with a white wife I really do not believe that this was a racial issue. I believe that it was an act of laziness and use of poor judgment on Justin's behalf. Word to the wise to Justin, pay attention to the consumer in front of you and don't ever assume anything.

I was pretty impressed by O Fine Japanese Cuisine, considering that Irvine does not have a good reputation for decent sushi places. However, after seeing the photos of this trendy place and reading its reviews, my friends and I decided to give them a chance. We ordered three rolls, having snacked a little sooner. All were absolutely delicious, featuring light but tasty sauces, fresh fish, and decent portions. Prices were also reasonable for such a trendy place, ranging from $6 to $12 for most rolls. The staff here are super helpful and attentive. It's a nice change from most restaurants that abandon you once they realize you don't want to order any more food. My only issue is that compared to other sushi restaurants with similar portion sizes, this place is a little pricier. However, it's understandable that their prices have to make up for what's likely their higher-than-normal rents in the Quail Hill shopping center. I would return because I like the service here and the decor, and I can't wait to try their other menu items.

Delicious. Was looking for a place for dinner with a friend and decided on somewhere in the Quail Hill shopping center. Decided on O Fine because sushi sounded good and it definitely was! Food: Scallop Dynamite roll was amazing. Less like a roll and more like a delicious concoction of scallops, asparagus, and mushroom in a delicious sauce. The sashimi was fresh and chilled and delicious. My boyfriend and I split a dinner special which came with both of the food mentioned before, a really good salad, and miso soup and we were both full when we left for only $25 total for both including tax and tip! If you ask for green tea, they'll bring it to you free too! Service: The service here was great. They sat us right away and were very attentive...always refilling water and asking how the food is. They took a special request from my friend with no questions asked too. Overall: I would definitely recommend this place and plan on coming back next time I have a sushi craving!

This sushi is on another level! I've been to quite a few sushi places and this one is definitely better than most. The two things that set it apart are the unique flavors and the restaurant's atmosphere. At most sushi joints, youre gonna get your standard crunch roll, rainbow roll, etc. but at this place, youre gonna get that plus a whole lot of new and creative options! I recommend the O Roll and the Super Poke Roll. The ambiance in the restaurant is also pretty classy. Very clean with a lot of crystal blue highlights. One thing to note is that the restaurant is located off of a traffic circle and in the corner of a "strip mall." Its kind of deep in Irvine but definitely worth the drive.

A buddy of mine and I came here for my 1 hour dinner break to grab a quick bite since it was close by and we didn't see a wait. I saw that they had Wasabi Lamb Rack on the specials board for $10.95(normal price, not special) and decided to go with that and a rainbow spider roll($13.95). My friend went with the two-item dinner combo($19.95) with the chilean sea bass and beef teriyaki. My "lamb rack" was the first thing out and really just two little lamb chops. It was cooked well-done and I wish I could've asked for it med-rare but I don't think it would've been possible with how thin those chops were haha. I was thinking since it was wasabi lamb it would be like...crusted...or marinated but it was just plain lamb with sauce on the side. I was friggin glad I ordered a roll too because there was no way those little things were going to fill me up. My friend got his salad and miso soup quickly but unfortunately that was all he got. I finished my lamb, shared some of the rolls with him and after 45 minutes he still didn't get his combo even though there was literally only 1 other party of 3 who already had their food. Since I was on a time crunch he had to tell them to just put it in a to-go box whenever it was ready. The whole first-time experience was a let down even though our waiters were nice. Looking back, I should've known NOT to order lamb there but I'm a sucker for specials and lamb. The roll was decent but I'm not much of a sushi snob to really pick it apart. After I got back to work my buddy messaged me and told me the take-out food he got was pretty good. I don't think I'll be back. Pricier than what I want to pay and not worth it from my first experience.

Went to O Fine again in the evening. Four people, 4 beers, 1 sake and sushi later, our tab was $200. *Do not get their poke nachos. It's not worth the $15. It's very small and it's served in a huge bowl with chips. I easily could've eaten the whole plate in 7-8 bites. *Crunchy roll- is very good. The crunch was crunchier than most places *Hummingbird app- decent. Didn't come out very hot or spicy *Toro- $30 for 7 pieces of sashmi.. it was good.. not sure it was worth it though. *O Roll- very good, but it only came w/ 6 thin pieces and it was $15. Best part of the meal= the Green tea tempura ice cream. Had it the first time and it's still just as good. All in all, pretty disappointed. I like the ambiance a lot, it's louder and not so traditional and they play good music.

Thought I would give this place another shot since it is local and discovered it was under new ownership and has been for more than a year ..... atmosphere was alive and there seemed to be a steady flow of customers. We were promptly greeted and seated. The waitress was friendly and outgoing. We ordered the rib-eye steak and tempura combo, steak was just so so, not much flavor, but the tempura was great. Portions are plentiful. Overall it was an ok experience, nothing to write home about, listen to what I say cause you know I am always right.

This place was beautiful for a Japanese sushi restaurant, sleek and modern. The sushi was fresh and delicious. It was pricy as everyone wrote. Spent $200 for a family of 4 including tip. I really liked this place but the service was very slow. Maybe it was because they were going to close in half an hour or maybe they were understaffed. All in all, I would come back and maybe sit at the bar instead.

How lovely to have a "good" sushi place in the neighborhood. This place is a faithful counterpart to it's original in Laguna. The decor is contemporary, more so than usual Japanese sushi places. We were told that the "O" stands for Ocean which goes along with the blue lights and white leather theme. The atmosphere is very relaxed and soothing. I ordered the baked scallop roll. For $1 more for I got real snow crab instead of imitation. I think it was well worth the extra dollar. For about $15, it was a california roll on the bottom topped with baked pieces of scallop, sauteed mushrooms, onions and a creamy sauce. On top of that was sliced raw onion and masago. The combination was delicious, soft, flavorful and just a little warm. Also got shrimp tempura udon for 12.95. It came with spinach leaves and sliced shitake mushrooms. This was just okay for me. I think I've had better udon at other places. We also got an order of Ono (White Tuna) sushi and an order of Salmon sushi. The pieces were a good size, both were extremely fresh and just melted in my mouth. Not many places have Ono, and it's one of my favorites so this is a huge plus in my book. In general, O is a more upscale, good quality, sushi place. It is a little pricier than other places but going there once in a while is worth it.

My friends bought a house nearby so when we went to visit, they took us to their local joint. This sushi place is great. I liked the decor- totally modern and chic. I also loved the presentation of their food, so you know that you can bring friends here to impress them. The fish itself here was very fresh and I enjoyed my sashimi and sushi very much.

honestly i thought the food here was overpriced. i came for a friends bday dinner and ended up getting the seared yellowtail roll. i ended up paying about 19 bucks including tip for one roll. not worth it in my opinion if i can spend a few more bucks and get AYCE sushi at another restaurant. the seared yellowtail roll was spicy tuna with chopped yellow tail on top and a piece of jalapeno.. seriously? i mean the food is good but i dont think its worth the price i paid especially on the tight budget im on =/ the interior of this sushi restaurant is really nice. it looks elegant with the blue lighting and white chairs and definitely looks better than almost, if not all, the sushi places i've eaten at. i thought our service was pretty good. our server came around to check up on us and was there when we wanted to request some dipping sauces. so come here if you like presentation and nice ambience but if youre really looking to get your dollar's worth then i'd probably stay away.

My buddy is a regular and we sat at the bar for omakase. Looking at the other reviews I'm not sure how it is regularly, but they served us amazing sushi. We got hooked up with spanish mackerel belly that was amazing. At any rate, always sit at the bar!

Stop bashing the Sushi at this place ITS PHENOMENAL! The point of getting sushi is to sit bar side, have someone to talk to, ask whats good, and to be sure to eat ginger between each piece of sushi. Very friendly staff. And the sushi! My god, I had red snapper sashimi and it was wonderful. It had some awesome presentation too! They served it on a leaf, topped each sashimi with a little basil (I think) and made it all right in front of me. I was impressed. The place even has TV, you can have a good night out bar side and watch the xgames. I also think they have a guest room with a projector set up if you're going to have a party or something. Beautiful decor as well! I won't lie, the place is price, expect to pay 30+ if you're hungry per person. Still completely worth the price.

I came here during lunch hours because I was craving sushi and my work place is down the street from the Quail Hill plaza. Inside this place is super fancy. From what others have told me, this place use to be sushi as well but changed to a different, more revamped sushi place! Anyway, the first time I ate here for lunch, a friend and I easily spent $80 bucks on food. We mainly ordered the 2 pc sushi and sashimi so it was our fault that the bill was so high. The second time around, we ordered the rainbow spider row (MUST HAVE), tataki crunch shrimp roll and a spicy tuna hand roll. I really enjoyed the rainbow spider roll. I am a big fan of the rainbow roll, but when they added the spider in it.. it won my heart, for sure! They also included some more spider pieces on the outside of it. I believe all their premium rolls (like the ones we ordered) ranged from $12.95 to $17.95 from what I can recall. The rolls were pricey but I thought they were good. We also ordered miso soup for the each of us and it was the typical miso soup. With the soup, they gave us a spoon. I thought this was unusual as most authentic Japanese sushi spots are more traditional (meaning there are no spoons and that we drink the soup straight from the bowl). The service was on point for the first half an hour we were there (we arrived at 11:45 AM). After the first half an hour, it got crazy busy and they seemed like they were understaffed. What I thought was going to be a typical hour lunch turned into 2 hours because we kept waiting around for our server. As such, I only gave them 3 stars. I wished they stayed more attentive the whole stay.

This place just keeps getting better and better as the word spreads!!! Their crunchy shrimp hand rolls are HUGE...... I can't help saying that after having the mini one bite hand rolls at the Canery in Newport! Love you guys at. "O":)

A great sushi place! This place has all the freshest fish and a very friendly sushi bar staff. My personal favorite is Kevin. Good variety of sake doesn't hurt this review at all. I come so much now I don't even have to order they know what I like and don't like, so they make what they want! Hands down Sushi bar around

Blue lights, waterfalls, modern, spacious, and classy. They definitely have a unique vibe for a sushi bar... The blue lights make it modern/hipster but the waterfall gives it that Japanese feel. More of a dinner date spot.We ordered the O Roll (recommended by our waiter as their signature roll), Uni, and King Crab Roll. The uni was delicious. Very fresh and flavorful... Worth the $8? Probably not, but whatever I was craving it... As for their specialty rolls: Don't expect anything like the specialty rolls at Tokyo Table or RA. Both were pretty similar to the Tokyo Table spicy tuna summer roll; very light and fresh, no bold flavor. The rolls were, however, very very verrryyy nicely presented; topped with colorful caviar, surrounded with carved cucumbers and colorful thin strips of radish. All I thought to be unnecessary, but very beautiful to look at I guess? The King Crab in the roll was very fresh and flavorful... and the O roll was assorted fresh sashimi with king crab wrapped in cucumber. Both rolls tasted the same even though they sounded like two completely different things -_- They were good, but I would have liked some of our rolls to have more flavor and RICE. After dinner I felt like I just had a salad, which is great if that's what you're in the mood for... BUT I was in the mood for something a little...heavier, BOLD, spicy, and mouth watering... Overall, my experience was very mediocre. Everything was pricey and pretty, but overall kind of bland and unsatisfying even though everything was fresh and good quality... so you can be the judge of that? My boyfriend found the yelp coupon online for 15%...but even with that, I felt like the bill did not reflect my overall satisfaction. Anyway, I don't think I'll ever have an urge to come back...

The ambience is beautiful and classy, perfect for a date, although they are quite accommodating to groups too, as my friends and I found out tonight. The prices are a bit higher than the sushi places I had previously frequented, but man, the quality of the fish is excellent.

The cooked food were delicious--Ono, sea bass, dynamite, etc. however, im quite disappointed with the sushi. The only ones that stood out as good was the Ankimo, seared Ono, seared salmon....quite disappointed with the rest I ordered : uni had a bd aftertaste--the really fresh kind doesn't have aftertaste, they add these chem to preserve but I hate that taste, non seared salmon and Ono wasn't all that great maybe I'm used to eating very fresh sushi with that sweet melt in mouth taste. In their seared sushi, there was one that tasted so fishy (they put lots of black pepper to cover up the flavor) that I had to spit it out. so gross! To spend $45 or bad sushi was horrible experience.

O Fine Japanese Cuisine is trying to combine the decor and experience of a fine dining Japanese restaurant with the atmosphere of like a Tokyo Table. For those that have been to Japan, you will find hundreds of these styles of sushi joints which cater to the hipster crowd. The question is... did they succeeded in capturing that experience? I think they are close for the most part. If you end up going here for dinner, the first thing you notice is the dark decor and then immediately followed by the neon lights around the sushi bar. The atmosphere is pretty cool and is a welcome change from the traditional oak wood chairs and tables or the standard black table tops you find at most places. We ended up ordering a wide variety of things. On the sushi side, we ended up getting: * tuna * salmon * yellowtail belly - very good * yellowtail * unagi - pretty good * white fish - pass on this * amebi - the fried shrimp heads were tasty * spicy scallop roll with real crab - How do you make an awesome scallop roll... you use real crab. I normally thing most rolls are pretty bleh. It is usually really hard to impress me with a roll, until I had this one. This easily is one of the best rolls I have had. * spicy tuna hand roll For non-sushi items, we ordered: * Calamari - the sun dried tomato sauce was pretty good * Soft Shell Crab Karaage - either the waitress misunderstood what I ordered (even after pointing on the menu) or the restaurant/owners don't know what Karaage is, but what they brought out wasn't Karaage. The only reason why I ordered this was because I have never heard of Crab Karaage and I thought "hey maybe this might be one of those awesome new innovative dishes some talented up and coming chef might do". Uuuhhh... no. What they brought out was actually a crab croquette. It was decent though. If you're Japanese, it would be hard not to know what Karaage is... I am guessing this is a Korean owned restaurant. Overall, the food was pretty good and compared to other sushi places, its above average with grand opening busy atmosphere playing a positive part in the dining experience. Since they were celebrating their grand opening, they had a $1 draft beer special (limit 2). I knew going in, this place might be $$$ and it most definitely is. The food very good, but does the quality of food justify the price? I am on the fence on this one. Factoring in the price of normal pints of beer and it starts to become hard to justify it especially when you can get the same quality of sushi for cheaper elsewhere. I think O Fine Japanese Cuisine might have an uphill battle surviving in this location. I think they like many other restaurants get attracted to the brand new housing tracks (especially if they are in Irvine), but you factor in everyone around you having brand new mortgages with now even less for disposable incomes and you start to see the dilemma of opening a $$$ restaurant in Quail Hill. The food is good and its definitely pricey if you are coming for sushi. The only thing keeping this place away from 5 stars and at the same time getting very close to pushing them down to 3 stars is the price. I give it a 4... out of 5.

Four stars for the sushi which was very good. Everything was fresh and well prepared. We had a variety of sushi, sashimi and rolls and although nothing really stood out as outstanding, it was still very solid. My wife doesn't eat sushi so she had a steak which was poorly prepared and very underwhelming. We were also disappointed with our table service as we rarely saw our waiter. I would come here again for the sushi but would avoid the tables and sit at the bar.

It's probably an upgrade from Mitsui, which previously occupied this corner spot in this nice strip mall. But if you're looking for authentic Japanese food, this isn't the place to find it. The first telltale sign that it is not an authentic place is that the miso soup is served FIRST -- and with a spoon. Second is the rice -- dry, flaky brown rice. And third -- servers that haven't a clue what "daikon oroshi" is or what it's for! But I'm giving this place three stars because its saba shioyaki (grilled mackerel) WAS quite juicy and yummy.

Eek! Against my better judgement, I went to O for dinner with the hubs. The place used to be a different Japanese restaurant. They spruced it up and made it super modern with a white sushi bar and blue lights. Our sushi chef didn't speak much English and it was a little frustrating to communicate with him. I typically don't have any problems with communicating with non-English speaking sushi chefs but this one in particular was extra difficult. He was a little goofy and totally ADD. He was nice but not necessarily efficient. Our regular server also didn't speak any English and got our sake order wrong... TWICE! Both times, I pointed to exactly what I wanted. The first time, she brought out the wrong size and the second time, she brought out a completely different sake. She had already opened it by the time we noticed so we didn't make her take it back. The variety of sushi wasn't that great. They had all of the typical offerings: toro, hamachi, uni, salmon, ika, etc etc. The fish is relatively fresh but not the freshest I've had around town. The rice was horrible, though. It was undercooked and dry. I asked the sushi chef to make us a negi toro and he made it with and charged us for otoro, the more expensive of the toros. Eh, whatever. I should have known better than to go to a super modernized sushi bar. Although the place is run by Japanese people, the quality of the sushi is disappointing. Although not terrible or the worst I've had, I wouldn't go back to O. For the steep price, I can get way better sushi elsewhere.

I got my food to go so it's obviously a different experience than eating there but I was pleasantly surprised. I've been to quite a few sushi places in Irvine and everything is blah. A couple of friends took me here and I'm a little mad that they didn't take me here sooner! We sat at the counter where the sushi chef was friendly, funny, and inventive. We ordered a couple of favorites and daily specials, but quickly switched to chef's choice. The fish was amazingly fresh. Regardless of what the chef created, it was delicious. There was no pressure or rush. We sat for a couple of hours enjoying the food and sake. I highly recommend sitting at the bar, as well as, giving the guys behind the counter a little sake. The food is well worth it and the service was fantastic!

This restaurant is terrific and has a great little banquet room for about 30 people for lunch or dinner. The owner, Charles really went all out for my birthday dinner and all my friends commented on how terrific the food and the service was. We were extremely pleased on how smoothly everything went. Everyone was very excited to be there and they are anxious to return as soon as they can The food is always wonderful and we try to bring our guests there at every opportunity. When we have guests from Japan, we eat there and they always say, "Oishi". This means "delicious" in Japanese.

The food was good but not much better than Mitsui. The menu seemed very limited .. no tamago and some other items. Unfortunately, service was lacking. Came in at 9pm when they close at 930pm and they seemed to be in a rush even though only 3 other tables were full. Table didn't have soy sauce on it. Had to ask 3 times to two different staff to get it AFTER the food was already on the table. Again, restaurant was not even at 30% capacity so I don't understand why it can take so long to track down soy sauce in a sushi restaurant. Will spend the extra 10 mins and go back to Nana San (3 visits there now, perfect, 5 stars, everytime).

Came here with a friend to catch up; mainly just got a few 20%-off appetizers and chatted. The food is excellent (pricey main dishes, but I think the cost is justified), and the staff is extremely helpful (my glass was never empty). The place has very nice ambiance, including a fountain and relaxing music. Definitely a nice spot for a romantic date.

Came here on a Sunday around 6 without reservations and the three of us in my party were seated immediately. The restaurant is in the corner of an albertsons shopping center and from the outside doesn't look like much but inside it really is gorgeous with lots of blues and water just beautiful. Anyway, the sushi was fantastic. My favorite was the super poki roll. I think that's what it's called. We got a ton of rolls and weren't disappointed in any of them. We mostly ordered off the specialty rolls menu. I did get the house salad - pretty much like any other sushi joint and the miso soup which was a tad bit salty. The hot green tea is included which is nice but no edamame to start. The prices are a bit high but the quality was great. Will definitely be back. Oh and I think they have a back room for larger groups because we saw two people go back there and everyone yelled surprise.

My favorite place to have sushi, there a bit on the pricey side but every penny is worth it.... this was the first place I had ever had sushi and the chef's behind the bar were more than happy to explain any ingredient... it's almost a pity to eat the works of art they give you..... almost :)

Okay...just to start. My boyfriend and I are die hard O Fine Japanese Cuisine fans. we absolutely love the place. But the Irvine one was disappointing to say the least. If you like this place, check out the one in Laguna Beach. It has the BEST sushi ever. I'm guessing the places are owned by the same people but i dont know what happened to this one....so disappointing. We had a few rolls and usually we order more until we cant breathe and then still order dessert! But it was so disappointing we decided not to waste any more money :( Then we asked for the check and we had a 15% off coupon. (i guess this should have been a hint enough) Anyways one person was going to put it on our check but I gave my credit card to another server. I guess it was a bit confusing because they ended up charging my card full price. Usually....restaurants can just void it and then swipe my card again with the correct amount. Well, our server came over and said it would be "too complicated" so we should come back to use the coupon another time..... uhmm... how about not? Sorry it was so inconvenient for the restaurant to pay a fee to void the incorrect amount on my card. Anyway, not going back to this place. The one in Laguna Beach is WAY WAY WAY WAYYYYY better.

I came here for lunch, I got a chirashi to go (so I can sit outside with my co workers). It looked like a really big box but there's a lot of "filler" items that are not fish in the chirashi bowl. The fish was a good decent size but was just ok on quality. It was fresh but not the best sashimi. Staff was friendly but food was not impressive... will probably go elsewhere in the food court.

Scheduling for a dinner before the pageant of the master. Trying to find something that's on the way yo Laguna Beach, I came across this restaurant. the overall decor is okay. a bit trendy. However, we were a bit questioning the quality of the food since we were the only Asian in the restaurant besides the waitress and the chief. T Overall, the quality of sushi is not too bad. I have ordered the combination which have a dynamite and sashimi. However the meal is a bit expensive. The sashimi dinner is about 20 so was my combination meal. Since the reservation was only my wife and I, we were seated near the corner where my wife and I are sitting in an L shape. This is the first time I ever seated this way in a restaurant I gave a 3 just because this is a restaurant I would try again, but I probably won't have an urge to come back anytime soon.

Dined here with family last week. I thought the sushi was very good, but honestly it wasn't something that was distinguishable from another good sushi from another restaurant. We had three signature rolls with (sorry don't remember the names) the spicy tuna, philly, and salmon rolls. We were all very satisfied. The bill was appropriate given the area and the quality of the food. Would definitely dine here again.

O Fine sushi is now our go to place for take out sushi. Love the spicy tuna cracker. Love the poki nachos. It's hard to find decent sushi and they know how to do spicy tuna. In a bit of a secluded spot, but if you live nearby, give it a try.

the poorly trained staff made it one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences. so many things were just wrong, here're a few highlights for laughs. i asked our server to tell us about the night's specials and she said to look at the board over there. haha. i mean i can see the board, cant quite make out the letters. really? also asked about the drinks, but she was under 21 so she had no idea. honestly, this stuff i can kinda understand, i used to wait tables, my dad owned a restaurant. but then our server also got one of the special prices wrong by $5, and another lady snapped at me and demanded me to tell her who it was and made her come over and apologize. -_-;;; oye vey so uncomfortable! meanwhile you have the restaurant manager pouring/shmoozing/drinking w/ppl at the bar and you're not quite sure if this is a nice place or a really amateur place, like what is going on. the experience was confusing, felt like a fraud. sigh, unfortunate. i couldnt really focus on the food when it came out, it took a long time. all i remember was that some of it was fresh, some of it was really fishy. 2 stars b/c my company was great.

Boyfriend and I came here the other day. We were pretty much starving by the time we walked in the door, but I think it's still fair to say that the food was excellent! Even the miso soup was more flavorful than it is at most other places. We got a few different kinds of rolls and they were all amazing! The service was great, as well. We will definitely be back. If the next time is just as good, I'm updating this review to 5 stars. EDIT: We have been back a few times, and the food is always amazing. Yum!

Honestly Ive had better. This place was a bit of a drive for me and the food was just ok. I forget what I had but I remember that when I got the bill there was an additional charge of $1. I asked the waiter what it was for and he said it was for the optional upgraded "real crab meat" granted I probably would have gone for that anyways but I was never asked or told I had options. That is my only real gripe. Interior is very nice great spot for a quiet date.

Went there yesterday for dinner...given that they were in the soft opening, they did A-OK. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, loved the blue interior lighting. A friend and I went in with reservation and was seated right away. I started the evening with an order of uni sushi -- definitely had better but theirs was not bad in any way. It came in a decent sized serving too. Then for entree I got the yuzu grilled Chilean sea bass.......this one is a bit uncertain...the fish itself was overpowered by the garlic and pepper, border lining overcooked....unless they were serving stripe bass instead of seabass, the meat was firmer than what I have know chilean seabass to be....and that yuzu dipping sauce has a HEAVY kick of wasabi within....caught me off guard! My friend had the shio grilled salmon, looked a bit dry but didnt try his entree. When the food was ready, it would brought out by our server and an older lady. Maybe our server was new or maybe the older lady (presumed owner??) was too anxious...but they flipped our entrees even after we told them what we ordered, and after placing the plate in front of us, the older lady was arranging our drinks from one end of the table to the other for like 10 seconds......it got really confusing, as if we were playing human tic tac toe..... only the grids were their hands and the game pieces were our food....kinda weird... Here is the thing...bc this is their second location and they should already have the restaurant operation science down....i mean, at least more so than a first time restaurant owner. IMO, prep talk your servers before game time, make sure they are knowledgeable on the menu and let them do their job! Get my drift here? lastly, I have to say that I havent really tried their sushi menu...so my rating is definitely not final....I will definitely go back in a month or so and update. The visit left an average impression but fully look forward for it to improve upon my next visit.

Each bite is to be savored like you will never eat another sushil like this again... each dish, each bite is so delicate and perfect, even the toughest critics of sushi would leave this place smiling. Would I say it's better than Taiko?? Oooooh Man.. that's a very tough one... Yeah~~ Probably. I'll just say it's definitely the best sushi place in Irvine... haha :) it really is as good as it gets, especially here in OC. Oh, also, u should go here when you're super hungry... the sushi chef will keep feeding you amazing dishes until you really can't eat anymore. I cannot wait to go back for some more~~

I was really glad to see its new location in Irvine since I liked the one in Laguna Beach. Although the decor at both places are a bit too hip (too much blue lighting with white furnitures) for my taste for a sushi restaurant, I like sashimi- pretty fresh and generous portion. Sushi rolls were good too with good amount of fish. I can never decide so I always get sashimi combo. I've tried several sushi rolls and so far my favorite is the spider roll with tuna on top. Although I would like to give 5 stars, the service could be off sometimes depends on a waiter/waitress. Btw, poki appetizer is awesome too.

If you're looking for good sushi then O Fine Japanese is where you need to go. We sat at the sushi bar and the fish was so fresh and beautifully prepared. How often do you go to a sushi restaurant and a chef asks you "would you like real crab or imitation?" I HATE imitation crab so was impressed they offered the real thing in their rolls. The decor is loungy and cool which is surprising because it's located in a shopping center near the big Kaiser hospital. Service was great but the sushi was a bit pricey.

great ambiance and awesome food. If you're sitting at the sushi bar try and get Kevin, he makes the best rolls

GET THE SWEETENED ICE GREEN TEA :] (it's so good it deserves a happy face) This place pleasantly surprised me. It was a pretty small place, and the noise level was not bad. Don't be fooled if it looks closed! They just have black curtains to block out the sun from the outside. The food was pretty good the first time that I went there with my girlfriend. She ordered the Beef Sukiyaki, which had a little too much onion for her. I had the Nabeyaki Udon, which was really good, because I had a cold at that time. The second time we went, we ordered the Beef Teriyaki Combination Dinner and the Crunch Red Dragon rolls, which was really delicious. The presentation was really nice too. The service was really good. They came to our table constantly to check up on us and see if we wanted refills (I think we got 4) and they were really nice about it. The food came out after not too long of a wait. It's a good place for a semi-formal/formal event. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Planning on going back soon.

The shrimp tempura here is really good! Nice and flaky without too much breading. Our dinner for 3 consisted of 1) dinner combo w/ salmon teriyaki and mixed tempura 2) crunch roll 3) spider roll 4) sea eel nigiri and 5) salmon belly nigiri. The bill was about $60 not including tip. Reasonable price considering how stuffed we were.

First off let me say that i have been going to O for the last 2 1/2 years with my boyfriend, at least every other week for dinner. This afternoon, I was in the mood for some sushi so why not get it from my favorite place right? Well i phone ordered my order Togo and first there was so much background noise i could barely hear him which was fine annoying but fine. When i finished my order of two salmon skinned hand rolls and an order of sushi yellow tail he explained to me that it will be ready in 10 mins, that was at 12:20. When i arrived there it was 12:25 (i live around the corner) i was greeted by this guy (who i believe is a server since he is wearing white) i explained to him that i had an order to go, he then said "it is not ready" first thing that came to mind was that how would he know that without even asking my name. anyway, i explained to him that i could pay now and just wait for it since i am a bit early, he explained he could not right now because he had other credit cards he needed to process (RUDE) as time went on i waited and waited not until 3 minutes to 1pm did someone come and ask me what i was waiting for, once i explained to him that i had been waiting for awhile he went to go check and guess what it magically appeared. it made me think as to how long it was sitting there because by the time i got home the yellow tail was warm and gross and the salmon skinned roll was cold. Grrrrr i did not leave there until after 1pm after quoting me 10 mins over the phone.i love "o" but i will not be going back in there during their lunch hour because the service sucks. i honestly think it is because the owner is in during dinner time. everyone is always so nice and friendly and the service is awesome excluding lunch! plus i can tell they hired new people who do not know what they are doing. Do not go order take outs at lunch time you will wait more than 40 mins after expected wait time to get your order.

The most gorgeous sushi restaurant I've ever seen! The interior is stunning and the blue lighting gives it such a nice atmosphere. The sushi tasted great too. The menu is quite extensive and includes a wide variety of rolls to try. We ordered a variety of nigiri and sushi rolls. Everything was delicious!

Disgruntled and HUNGRY! Having previously dined at O in Quail Hill, we looked forward to our date. The waitress neglected to tell us about any specials, as she elaborately described to the next-seated couple at the table 1' away from us. Our Sushi combo was good, but unremarkable. Our second dish was so salty one of us could not eat. Summoned again, she brought a menu back for another order.....which she never bothered to take. 45 minutes later, we had to leave for our movie. We repeated our complaint of a too-salty dish, and no replacement dish, met with "I'm so sorry" BUT no adjustment. Recipient of a gift card we tried to use, staff claimed it would not work. In California, expiration of a gift card is illegal. Review: VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE.

What a pleasant surprise! A gem of a place in a shopping center minutes away from work. The modern decor was inviting and refreshing. Even the restroom was very clean and pretty. Went there for lunch during the week and greeted by this young lady with no smile and no makeup. Hmmmmm....... Dare I make a kind suggestion ? Yeap, you guess it, how about a little smile like your colleagues and put on a dab of make up. The food was actually quite good, hence the four star review. Our standard bento boxes were no doubt put together with attention and care. It showed. Did not order sushi this time but a quick visual inspection of other people's nigiri sushi seemed promising. Will definitely visit again and try their sushi and rolls.

Pretty good sushi here. Came for dinner because we were in the area, tucked into the corner of a shopping center. The decor is really nice, good ambiance. All the servers were very nice and friendly, we had about 3 different people waiting on us for some reason, which really wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I have ever had, but it's pretty solid and I would definitely go here again if i'm in the area.

It's a pretty good spot to drop in for sushi when you have a hankering. The quality is pretty on par for most of OC but pales in comparison to the top spots in LA. I'll be a returning guest ... While I generally only get sushi and a few rolls here. The cooked dishes are actually quite fantastic. My wife usually gets the chicken teriyaki and it's great.

We went twice. Nice and clean place. My son and daughter tried a lot of sushi and was just ok with it. For the price we paid, it should be much better, but my meal was good.

Location and the atmosphere is nice. Hip & posh, a nice place to go on a date. What a pleasant surprise in sleepy Quail Hill. The prices make sense with the quantity. Regular menu is $$ at most. It's not $$$ unless you have tons of sit-at-the-counter sushi and alcohol. I had their hot udon with California rolls. Me, a California F*$%n Roll!? You might say. But I can socialize. The quality is good enough to enjoy the company. If you want to come off as a trendy hot date who enjoys "good quality sushi" (I'm sorry, it's Westernized compared to Shibucho) then this here is the right place to go.

I found the place by yelp review. I went there Friday with my casual friends. Ambiance was very nice as seen at yelp. there were enough people eating dishes, not crowded. However, 3dishes I wanna order was out (it was not late to be sold out. 8pm) and the sea food dish was not great and fresh than I was expecting. I recommend this place for date but not really taste the food.

The salmon is delicious and the sushi isn't that bad. I like how the sushi tastes really fresh here but it's kind of pricey. The decor is amazing and beautiful but the tables are kind of squished together. The service is alright. The lady kind of had an attitude so I didn't like that. Other than that, I usually just order the dinner entree with Salmon Teriyaki and leave. It's a great place to take someone out on a date if you want to come off as fancy but once again, it's kind of pricey and just stay away from the asian lady.

This is the best Japanese restaurant I have had for years at this price range! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. We ordered lunch special - two item - Salmon Shioyaki and Sesame Chicken. Both are so good that my son and I were fighting for them. Will definitely come back to try their sushi!!

Love eating at the Sushi bar and very welcoming friendly staff. We have been there often and will go back again and again, the only reason it's not 5 stars is it's a little pricey but not enough to keep us away!

I am a huge fan of this place! My boyfriend and I go there at least once a week. We have always sat at the sushi bar though. The sushi is the best I have ever had; I am a sushi lover, trust me! :) Chef Koki is great. We always ask for him now every time we go. He is skillful, creative, and very warm. Scallop, yellowtail, salmon, toro tuna sushi's are always on our list. DO try them, you don't wanna miss out! You can also ask him to make you something special that's not on the menu. Try the sushi bar at this place and you won't ever want to have sushi anywhere else!

I am a complete sushi fanatic and think and outstanding sushi restaurant is difficult to find. This place has good sushi but not great. Albacore sashimi was the highlight. Salmon was good. Too much rice on the sushi and the quality of rice was OK but too cold and compacted. May be a better place to get rolls vs traditional sushi/sashimi. Good place to go if in the area.

Not worth it for the money you're spending. They have another location in laguna beach that is wayyyy better. The food was prepared better, ingredients were more fresh, and most importantly they had a much more professional team of staff. When a restaurant is called fine cuisine, I expect the fine cuisine experience. Either train your high school staff better or hire more professional people. Service at the irvine location is so different than the one in laguna that it might as well have been a seperate restaurant. Staff was slow, empty plates scattered all over the table and not a glance of an eye from anyone, empty cups were not refilled even once the entire time. Ive been and waitress before and i expect the same service I would give to a customer when I am at a restaurant.

We decided to venture from our normal sushi place and we were pleasantly surprised. I enjoy the feel of a "traditional" sushi bar, but it has been a challenge finding a restaurant that not only has the ambiance, but also has great sushi at a reasonable price. O Fine Japanese seems to fulfill all those requests and then some. The meal started with our drinks...ice cold tall beers served in chilled glasses....Mmmm. The started was a cucumber salad, which was refreshing and not overdressed. Next we moved on to sushi: Eel Tuna Salmon Octopus The sushi was amazing. The pieces were just the right size and tasted so fresh. The chefs are a little heavy with the wasabi, but it's not complete overkill. We also order green mussels, which were delicious. I am not a big fan of chunks of onion on my mussels, but even with the onion it was good. Additionally, we tried the Rainbow Spider Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. Mmmmm. Mmmmm. Mmmmmmmmm. The Rainbow Spider Roll was so good that I can not believe I have not seen a similar roll in any other restaurant. It is essential just what the name implies... A Spider Roll with a rainbow of fish on it. The Spicy Tuna Roll was also worthwhile; although I am not normally a fan of spicy tuna this roll was mind-altering. The tuna was not over spiced and contained a simplistic goodness. We will definitely be back!

absolutely the BEST sushi I have had!! And the service was outstanding as well. We were in a hurry to see a show and I told our waitress that when we sat down. Drinks came fast and our food was obviously given priority because it arrived in a flash. Holy cow, if you like lobster, you MUST get the baked lobster over a California roll. It's one of their specialties, and when you taste it, you'll know why. We also had the spicy tuna on a fried rice paddy...YUM!! And the poki nachos which sent us over the top. I would go back there and take friends as well; even with those with the utmost discerning taste in sushi. It is THAT good!

OMG! I don't think I could ever eat at another sushi restaurant after eating at the O Fine Quail Hill. My brother and I were heading down to Irvine and he kept telling me we just HAD to go eat at O Quail Hill because it's his favorite Japanese restaurant. We showed up around 6:30pm on a Saturday and it was packed. The pretty girl at the front desk asked if we had reservations. We didn't and thought for sure we'd have to wait a while, but lo and behold, two available seats at the bar. Yes! I was a little overwhelmed with the menu because I didn't know what to order. Everything looked really really good. Should I go with sushi? Sashimi? Something cooked from the kitchen? I don't know!!! So, A and I decided to go with the the sushi chef's recommendation. All I can say about that is, super fresh ingredients, very inventive pairings, really really really good food!!! We had the Spider Crab hand roll, the Hamachi, Salmon, Uni Sushi and some excellent Shrimp Tempura and the broiled salmon collar was amazingly delicious. Two thumbs up for O Quail Hill!!

excellent service, great atmosphere, and amazing japanese food at a good price. we came here for a really late birthday dinner and the waitress still gave us a free dessert even though my actual birthday was three months ago. i recommend any of the rolls and if you come at lunch, their combos are so ginormous but the quality doesn't make you think their food is put together in a slap dash way. Just a great place for a date or a nice dinner with friends.

Borderline for three stars. Here for lunch with a group from work; don't really expect to return (though it is in a very convenient location). The spicy tuna roll that other yelpers have raved about was fine, but unremarkable. Other nigirizushi (the usual assortment) was acceptable but again unremarkable. Maybe a bit above average quality for the price. The gari (ginger) was excellent, among the best I've ever had, and the wasabi was above average. Salmon Collar Shioyaki was way overcooked. Saba Shioyaki not overcooked, but meh nonentheless. My born in Japan coworker was "meh" about his Yakiudon. Nobody in our group of nine was especially enthusiastic about what they had. Service was generally good until late in our lunch when a burst of other people came in (starting about 12:45 pm - O seems to have a very late lunch crowd, at least on our Monday). The "background" music was far too loud, and the main lunch room is very acoustically bright (clearly no thought was given to sound deadening or masking in the design). Wouldn't be a problem with just a couple, but for more than four people having a conversation will be a struggle. I concur with the suggestion to sit at the sushi bar if you're only two or three - seems quieter there. On the other hand, if you want a good excuse not to talk during your meal, there you have it. The design and decor are indeed very nice from a visual aspect - though this being Irvine, your visual field may well be graced with some guy in t-shirt, shorts, and flops (luckily I had only one such fine specimen of modern Orange County manly attire to enhance my dining experience).

The sushi bar has a cool vibe. Our sushi chef was friendly. Most of the fish was fresh and yummy. They use real crab in thei rolls and serve a good varieties of rolls. It's a bit on the pricey side, but it's 5 mins from my house, and I am getting 1,000 points by booking a reservation through Open Table. So I'll probably go back.

Yes, I'm a fan. Although I'm not the connoisseur, my training in sushi tells me that if the Sake (salmon) melts in your mouth, then the inventory is high quality. Great decor and lighting. Blues especially give that Oceanic feel; parallel to what's being served. I had no idea Ó is a chain. I'll stick to this location since it's down the hill from my house.

Read a really good review on ocregister.com and tried it with my son. It was excellent. My son had the baked lobster roll for $16.50. It had a whole lobster tail cut up in large pieces on top of a calif. roll. Not too much mayo (like some places do), it was perfect. I had the O Roll, which was equally fantastic. It was filled with raw assortments of fish, topped with several different kinds of caviar, with a light citrus dressing underneath. I ordered spanish mackerel and it was the freshest, best mackerel I have ever had - no joke. The service was great. The sushi chef, waiter and manager were all very attentive and the decor was very stylish. We had green tea tempura ice cream for dessert, even though we were stuffed, and it was light and delicious. Overall price was good for the amount of sushi we had and the great quality.

I had a hankering for sushi and wanted to try a new place that was convenient for a business lunch. This place seemed central to our location, and had decent reviews, so I tried it. We both ordered their Sashimi lunch and shared their signature O roll with cucumber wrap. Their miso soup was a great start and the dishes came very artfully presented. However, the meal went downhill from there. The sashimi plate included salmon, snapper, albacore, and tuna, none of which I enjoyed. It's hard to go wrong with those basic fish, but the quality and freshness just wasn't there. Then we proceeded to try the beautiful cucumber roll with multi-color masago on top. I have to give credit that real crab was used in this roll. However, the dish looked better than it tasted. This was my overall impression of this place, good presentation but poor execution. Maybe we just didn't order the right thing. We were charged $3 each for our iced green tea and they did not once come to refill our empty glass. Service also did not hit the right notes.

Never again, i got a mild case of food poisoning from eating here on saturday. I thought their fish didnt look too fresh and unfortunately i was right. Its a shame because their service is actually quite good, but the food doesnt live up to anita laus claim in the register of decent sushi in irvine. In fact, they even cater to less sophisticated clientele, i overheard a table next to us ordering a custom roll with cream cheese in it (yuck). If you want a real sushi fix, make the drive to bistro anju in laguna or go to kula or kaisen for a cheap fix. Unfortunately for me, o fine ruined my appetite for sushi.

  • Paul H.

Perhaps my expectations were too high, having read the other reviews, but this place was a bit below average in many ways. The good first-the decor is beyond what you might expect in a strip mall, and O has the tremendous advantage of having a great wine bar next door (not part of O, "Bacchus"). I had reservations, but it wasn't terribly busy, though fully staffed. Service was quite slow. I asked four times for a glass of water, but only one was brought for my companion. Ordered the two saki flights (nothing spectacular) and some shrimp tempura and nigri. Shrimp tempura was fairly warm, and the sushi was ok. Toro had little fat on it, tuna was good, octopus was ok, unagi was acceptable. Again, not bad, but nothing great. The slow (and in the case of the water, non-existent) service was the major detractor here. For Orange County, the prices aren't bad, but the service needs a lot of work. I won't be back.

Nice restaurant with contemporary decor located in the Quail Hill shopping center. Service was good. Food was good. The salmon teriyaki was moist, not dry; seasoned vegetables-crisp. It was our anniversary and the champagne was on the house, which was a very nice gesture. Would definitely come back.

I tried this spot because of all the favorable reviews from fellow-Yelpers. However, on the particular night that I had made reservations-- there were complaints from at least five tables in our part of the restaurant from the less than speedy arrival of sushi ordered. Mine took at least 40 minutes to get to my table. The waitress was profusely apologizing to anyone able to hear. Ordering was just such a slow process that night. Most of my table mates were already finished with their meal when mine arrived. So now that we've established that the service was beyond slow let's get to the food part of this review. The Saba (marinated mackerel) sushi is the best in OC! The entrees ordered by everyone in our table were meticulously prepared with the freshest available ingredients. Oh, by the way... did I mention that all the sushi I had ordered were at least top 10% as far as taste and presentation are concerned. Bottom-line--- Service sucks but the food superb!

  • Elizabeth O.

Tucked in the corner of the Quail Hill Shopping Plaza, this location has some great decor and ultra-slick ambiance. The sushi was fresh, the right temperature (just slightly chilled), and delicious. The service was lacking, though. For example, I asked for a glass of water when I ordered my wine. The wine came, but nearly at the end of my meal the water had not appeared. I had to ask again for it from another server.

Came here for graduation lunch... This place is not an authentic Japanese restaurant. Chirashi came with "Takuan" (yellow radish pickles) which should not be included... Servers - RUDE, SLOW and don't care if they give attitudes towards their customers. Good thing I don't live near. I will not come back again.

One of my other favorite Japanese restaurants in southern California! I had a superb dining experience and am looking to go back regularly! This place is a total gem - food was fabulous and fresh; service was outstanding and attentive and the ambiance was just perfect. Over all I was impressed with everything. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants quality sushi/Japanese food!

This place looks modern and clean. We ordered mini okazaki worth $39.99. The food is visually well presented but the price does not meet both quantity and quality. Only 4 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi and udon with 2 pieces of tempta. The sause on the top of sashimi is too salty and fried food (tempra and fried crab) is so greasy. It was hard to eat and my wife left the half of food. The service was good but I will never return.

    (1)
  • LuCy t.

This place has a nice modern decor and the lunch specials are pretty good deal: $11.95 for your choice of noodles (udon, ramen, or soba) + an accompanying side dish ( Cali roll, tempura, agendashi tofu, sesame chicken, etc). Although not the most authentic, the food is good, noodle portions were big, and the sashimi was fresh. Considering Irvine prices, I'd say this place was good bang for the buck.

I've been here several times and always been impressed by how fresh the fish isand all of the of unique creative menu items. Everything I've ordered here has always tasted really great. Don't let the mini-mall shopping center fool you, the interior is a very chic place w/gorgeous blue lighting throughout that adds a nice ambiance. The service is also always very friendly and attentive. All in all a really nice place to enjoy lunch or dinner. Be warned thought that is is a bit on the pricey side so I'd consider it more of a place to go for a special occasion or a date when you're trying to impress someone.

Meh, that's all I have to say about this place. I went here earlier this week for lunch with a group of coworkers. Service was probably the worse that I have had in a long time. We all ordered from their lunch menu, nothing complicated, but our server was just BAD!! There were eight of us, and we all got our food at different times, and our drinks weren't refilled. I had the Udon special, which wasn't good at all. A few of my coworkers had the sashimi, they too said that their food was just OK. I really wanted to like this place, but nope, not good.

The food here comes in very appetizing plates, and the decor is very nice and modern. If you are looking for authentic Japanese food you might be disappointed. Minor details were cues of the restaurant catering to the US public, such as the over use of Ponzu sauce. Even when the sauce wasn't Ponzu sauce, it tasted like ponzu sauce. Overall though, I did enjoy the food for what it is.

Its hard to find good genuine Japanese food in where I live, and "O" is one of the best I found so far in Irvine. The Sushi chiefs are like artist creating all kinds of amazing dishes, we are hooked on the dishes they created and is one of our favorite places to come on weekends and for special family occasions. Highly recommended.

They ought to change their name to "O Terrible" sushi. There is nothing fine about this place. I made reservations for 3 at 7:00. At 8:00 we were finally seated. No apologies from the hostess or manager. Strike 1. Strike 2, the place wreaked of rancid fish and cheap perfume which turned out to be a bad omen. Strike 3, the fish was in fact rancid. That bad smell was the tuna. My friend got terrible food poisoning and all he ate was a miso soup and 2 spicy tuna rolls. Bad service, bad fish and lame atmosphere. Never coming back.

I don't give too many 5-star reviews. I think they should go to the best restaurants in the world, and this isn't one of the best restaurants in the world. But it bugs me that there are people giving O Fine Japanese Cuisine in Irvine 1 or 2 stars. I have some ideas why. For starters, it's a sushi bar. You go, you sit at the bar, you order sushi. You go here because you like sushi. You love sushi. The sushi here is very good. At times, it is exceptional. And you're in control of those times. Wha? That's right. You're in control. The two main sushi chefs are right there, and they're both artists. Amazing sushi experts. You ask them what's good. They spend all day inspecting and tasting and carefully slicing the different fish here. If the ahi isn't particularly good today, and you love ahi, the only way you're going to know to order something else is to ask. By the way, we're talking about nigiri. The sashimi here is crazy money. This is a very expensive restaurant. I like to estimate $50 per person, not including alcohol. But here's the deal: if you work with the sushi chefs to get the best fish they're serving, and take your time and give them your feedback, and listen to their suggestions, it's worth it. It is 100% worth the very high cost. But don't go to O Fine on a budget. Don't get me wrong -- it took me a while to figure it out. The first few times I went here, I ordered what I thought I wanted. And the food was good. But at some point, I decided to put my experience in the hands of the experts, and now the food is awesome. You can sit at the sushi bar in a party of two or four, you know. You should.

I have a love-hate relationship with this place. The only item I like on their menu is the tuna tartare. I have tried their rolls and the sushi, both are pretty average. The presentation is great though, every plate is very creative. The service is not that great. Every time we come, the restaurant is pretty empty, so you would think that they could pay better attention to their customers.

O Fine is Fine! We ate here based on reviews and because the location was close to the Verizon Amphitheater since we had a concert that night. For sushi we ordered a vegetable tempura roll that was not on the menu so it was a custom order. It turned out pretty tasty except the rice was a little mushy/soggy on some parts of the roll which we didn't know why since other sushi rice was fine but this one. Perhaps the tempura was still hot when they rolled it so the heat may have impacted the rice? However overall it was pretty good and my wife said it was the best "non-menu" version she has tried. If you have to order just one sushi roll, order the Poke Roll. It was really tasty. It comes with a mix of poke (tuna and salmon) in the center surrounded by poke (tuna) sushi rolls. For dinner wife had the rib eye steak which was good but a little on the thin side and I ordered the Chirashi. Both were very good, only complaint was that the Chirashi portions were small for a dinner order. I forgot the price but I don't think I would order it again unless they increase the portion size and add a little more sashimi variety to the mix. Lastly, service was very good. I mentioned we had a show to attend and the food came out quickly. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Despite the location is in a strip mall, I would definitely go back but order another dish to try but definitely will order the Poke Roll!

Friday night waltzed in just before 7 p.m., no reservations and got 4 seats at the sushi bar. It's a big restaurant with high ceilings and cool blue and dark interior. Ordered only nigiri and had J.T. as our sushi chef. Instead of ordering from a list, our group asked him what's good. I couldn't help myself though and saw ankimo on the menu and ordered it. It was incredibly creamy and the preparation was such that it would be good for people timid of offal. The liver was creamy and had spicy fresh wasabi on top of their creamy discs. I really loved it. They had fresh ama ebi--J.T. prepared them on the spot--they thrashed helplessly in the bowl as he was preparing them one by one. The fried heads were crispy and oh so glorious--the snap and crackle of their shell was contrasted by exploding brains and guts when you bit into one. The ama ebi itself was succulent, sweet and fresh. Hamachi toro was excellent, great texture--dissolved on contact. Aji was also good. Loved the scallop--something that you don't order if it's at a place you don't trust. It was also sweet and tender in texture. This place was casual and our sushi chef J.T. was a wonderful guide. My husband asked him to prepare something fun with quail egg and he did not disappoint--a beautiful, playful and tasty sushi wth quail egg and other roe: I think ikura and possibly tobiko or masago. It had such a wonderful mixture of textures. Uni was bright, clean and delicate. He also prepared unagi--usually it's something I don't care for anymore but this one was not overly sweet, and almost slightly smoky. Servers were pretty timly cleaning plates and kept the sake rolling. Come here for good nigiri sushi and trust the chef. I'll be back.

The restaurant is currently having a sale on select sakes. We tried the Kikusui black and it was pretty comparable to the original Kikusui. Always ask for Kevin, he is the best and will make you any special roll and can make useful suggestions.

I have walked by this restaurant a dozen times before I finally decided to give it a try. I went there for dinner with 5 other people and a few days later went back for lunch. Both times, I ordered items from the Sushi bar. The sushi was excellent. The presentation was excellent and the fish was fresh and melted in my mouth. Both times we ordered variuos rolls and shared them. There wasn't anything I wouldn't order again. I especially loved the Lobster roll. The reason I didn't give it a five was because of the service. Although the food was somwhat quick getting to the table, I had to order tea a few times and I could not get anyone's attention to refill it. When I went to pay for lunch, it took the waitress at least 15 minutes to return with my charge card while we were all waiting.

I like this place if you down in the Quail Valley area back were they were never supposed to build businesses ..haha remember the lies from Irvine company,...anyway, this place is really good, best place in the area for sure. they have lunch specials too., and we had a intern from China who actually ate like a dog from his bowl on the table..sooo creepy, (oh you didn't need to know that part), anyways this place is really good HIP Asian food , seems very high quality. Yeah I said it, cuz its true; Said DougieFresh

overall: Yum! Happy! Good value! Good service! this place is a little gem. the staff is friendly, the venue is inviting and modern and the food is good. it's not amazing by any means but I think that everything i ordered and the price I paid matched what I would expect of the restaurant and for me that gets high marks. we celebrated a mini anniversary here and the service was very attentive. if you've read any of my reviews before you'll note that I tend to split an entree with my girl. with very modest appetites it tends to work out and here it works out without an issue. we split the salmon shioyaki and got an appetizer. the meal was delicious, fresh and enjoyable. so all in all, there wasn't anything uniquely amazing about O Fine but I think I just appreciate that the experience went, without a hitch from beginning to end.

I've given O Fine sushi 4 tries to change my mind, and unfortunately, I've come to the decision to never return. The problem is not the food - It is the servers that are being hired at this restaurant. My first experience dining here, left a server running back and forth 6 times just to figure out what yuzu paste was, and it was quite embarrassing for him to have to bring me ponzu sauce, chili paste, and other random condiments, until I had to suggest for him to ask the sushi chef. Even with that first experience, I laughed it off, and found myself returning for their food, but each time I'm there I feel like i'm being tortured having to listen to the lack of enthusiasm in my servers voice, or the lack of effort in making sure that our table had our soy sauce plates, or our waters served before the food begins to arrive. Third time I arrived, not only was our server clueless about what some of the menu consisted of, but my plate was dirty with old rice stuck to it. The last and final time I came, it was embarrassing to have to point to Toro and asking for the market price, only to leave the waitress dumbfounded and returning to tell me that it was $73.86, I scratched my head and informed her that it's impossible to charge toro sushi for that much, where she realized that she mistook my question as if I was asking for the total cost so far on my bill.... who does that? I ended up leaving with the finalization that I cannot blame the server, because it is the hiring manager who are not assessing, guiding, and managing their employees correctly. Each time I leave O Fine Sushi, I feel conflicted, confused, and disappointed that they failed to get it right.

I was really disappointed with this sushi place especially when many people have said it is good. The sushi wasn't fresh on a Saturday night and that is pretty bad. If you can't have fresh sushi, you shouldn't be in the game. Definitely won't go there again. Decor is nice but that don't make up for the expensive and not fresh sushi. Not sure how this place gets such high ratings.

Celebrated Valentine's Day 2012 here at O-Fine Japanese Cuisine. I made reservations for 7pm arrived 5 minutes early. There were quite a few people who made reservations at 7pm also and so I was afraid we wouldn't get our table, however, we didn't have to wait at all. We sat at a table instead of the sushi bar. The décor is very modern, which probably works with the Quail Hill neighborhood. It wasn't a bad ambiance. They have a pretty decent menu. As for the food, we were very satisfied with our dishes. The beef tataki appetizer was good, but I've had better. It was a bit chewy for me and a tad salty (me being picky because it was a V-Day dinner). We chose the dinner entrées that came with miso soup, salad, rice, and steamed vegetables. The chillean seabasss misoyaki was really delicious and cooked perfectly. The scallop dynamite was also very good, maybe a bit too much mayonnaise in there but still appetizing. The service was just okay. We had to wait a while to get our refill of tea and we weren't attended to as much as I would have liked. But, it was Valentine's Day so I understand they were busy. Overall, a good place to go, but pricey for regular occasions.

Great sushi, we ate at the sushi bar and had a fabulous experience. The sushi was fresh and delicious, we both had the crunchy red dragon roll. Asked the chef to make mine spicier and he quickly obliged. Going back tonight!

A little expensive. Weird part, I went through my whole meal. Could not figure out how to get a beer. Other than walk around and ask several employees. I asked when I paid my bill. They said I should have yelled at the sushi chef. Honestly didn't think of that.

Delicious! Ordered the Crispy Rice w/Spicy Tuna, the O Roll, the Grilled Sea Bass Roll and the Super Crunch CA Roll. Everything was divine! Gave 4 stars because service was lacking. Our food was ready at the sushi bar for at least 10 minutes but our waitress didn't deliver it to us...the rolls would have been warmer.

Alright. This place used to be Mitsui, which was really good but apparently were booted from the location due to tax evasion, tough times. Now, O, has entered the building with a much fresher and more aesthetically appealing decor, as well as some elevated prices. My mother and I went here on a slow Tuesday night but there were still a good amount of people in the restaurant. Walking in, I felt like I had entered some kind of exclusive sushi club in Vegas. It is really modern and simple with blue lighting in the walls that really makes the atmosphere at this restaurant nice. We ordered, I got a california roll topped with spicy tuna (almost $14 WHAT?!). The roll came and was so spicy I couldnt taste properly for a few days. Along with the price ($53 for 2 rolls, 1 sake, 2 side salads) was just ridiculous. The food was good but for the prices you're paying it's really not worth it unless atmosphere is the deciding factor of your dining experience. I'd go back, but not if I was paying, and not if I had to worry about my intestinal health on an important evening. Overall vote: meh

O fine? More like O Shit! So sat down with my family and was told lemonade was 4 dollars, so do you still want it? (What! We could not afford it?) Wanted omakase in Japanese that means whatever the chief picked and I told the waitress I trusted him the chief. But I guess again the main chief think that I could not afford it so "sorry no omakase at the table only at the bar. Sat there while only the wife eat and kid and I sat and watch all the while only came one time by the waitress to said oh they will have bar soon. Soon after that they sat someone else down at the bar. Really? All this time no manager came to say anything at all. So I guess if they feel you don't fit the part of their restaurant than you are F@@ked! Is this where you want to go?

I have been here twice, once with a girlfriend at the sushi bar and once one New Years Eve on a double date and had to sit at a table...The NYE thing was not the best idea, we made reservations for 7:30 at the sushi bar and when my husband and I arrived the owner told us they were running behind....Okay no problem, well 8:00 rolls around and the sushi bar was still full. First of all when you make reservations they need to put aside the spots for people, they are just typical and didnt want to lose a customer so they sat people in our spots...On NYE people are sitting enjoying themselves drinking saki and beer they dont leave as fast as they do on a normal night...I was just annoyed that we had to sit at a normal table with BAD service! FOOD was GREAT though....I order the Albacore Tataki crunch roll and its soooo delicious, also the Poke was amazing! I will be going back again despite the reservation mess!

I'm really disappointed about my experience here. I wanted to place a quick take-out order this Saturday: gyoza, tataki sampler, and a side salad. The guy at the front desk was friendly and told me the order would take about 10 min so I paid and let him know I'd be back. I came back 10 min later and said hi, but still no order. After another 5 minutes, he went to the back and then came out and told me that he was very sorry, but my ticket had not printed out and that they were making it "right now." I said that was fine and waited another 10 minutes. Then he comes out with a bag and says he is "really sorry" again, they are actually out of gyoza but my order had "everything else." Well, everything else is 4 pieces of sushi and a little side of lettuce - not exactly a meal. They didn't offer me another appetizer and I figured I didn't want to wait any longer than I had to so I would make do with that puny meal. He then took to refunding my order so I didn't have to pay for the gyoza. In situations like this, I think it is good customer service to either offer a replacement item for free, or to give a slight discount on the order for the inconvenience. Well, no such luck. He tried different things on the machine for 5 minutes and could not figure out how to issue the refund, so he called over another server. She then futzed with the machine for several more minutes, apologizing over and over again and then asked for my credit card. Um, really? Yes, they voided the entire order, and now had to run my CC for a second time just for the items I had. By this point, I was really annoyed and had been waiting for over half an hour. I could not wait to sign the bill and get out of there. In summary, TERRIBLE customer service, no idea how to do basic functions on their POS system (issuing refunds), and also their salad dressing was nasty. The tataki was average. I am not coming back.

The food here is very unique and delicious. I couldn't find another fine Japanese restaurant like this in OC. Most Japanese restaurants I went to only have sushi & sashimi and maybe udon, sukiyaki, etc... But O Fine has many more to offer!!! Most important of all, this is the only Japanese restaurant that my husband is willing to take me to :) Need to come here more often!!

I gave it a 4 but I'd rather put 3.5. The decoration and atmosphere are great. Nice location. Lots of room. It does get pretty full though. The service is ok not amazing. The food gets to you fairly quickly (not slow but not fast). The sushi itself is good but not amazing. While I would not be against going back if I was in the area or my friends invited me, there are other good sushi options to explore. Check it out for yourself but no rush. If you're trying to impress a girl on a first date but aren't trying to spend crazy money, this place will do.

after a long long drive from huntington beach to fountain valley to costa mesa to santa ana and then to irvine just to find a place to eat dinner...we ended up at O Fine. The plaza was nearly empty on a friday night. we were so afraid the place was going to be closed...luckily they were open. the service is slow but decent. the seating is a little cramped and akward...they place wasn't even packed but they sat Hannah S and I in a corner with a side table in between us haha... the udon was alright... the shitake mushrooms in their had an extreme scent to it. the tuna tartare was ...so not for me. the masago on top was alright ...pieces of it was good but that akward chipotle mango sauce on it was not meshing for me. however I have to say their fish is FRESH and their spicy salmon handroll was amaazing...If I had ordered jus rolls or handrolls for the night this review might be much higher. i'll come back for the handrolls but nothing else :)

Total rip off. I paid $21 for a draft beer and five tiny pieces of Albacore Tuna and that's it. No soup, no salad, no edamame, nothing extra to make me feel like I was getting at least a market price deal. And frankly the preparation of the sashimi was horrible. I didn't ask for their special sauce: they just doused the Albacore with it without even asking. In fact, every other place I've ordered sashimi leaves it how it should be: RAW. Horrible flavor and not even top quality grade fish that I would expect at that price. I felt unwelcome from the moment I walked into the place. The staff ushered me over to the far edge of the completely empty sushi bar, near the wall. And they were constantly coming by to clear the plates of my guest and I even before we were done eating. Totally rude and totally over priced. I would definitely NOT recommend this place. With dozens of other sushi places around Irvine, why pay top dollar for this junk?

So decided to try this place. Walking in and waiting for a table was a bit rough. In fact I almost left. Glad I didn't. The food was excellent! Service was fast and quick. Would come back again for sure. Got the udon soup and it was delicious. Also ordered the baked lobster roll and that was fabulous.

One of my favorite sushi places in OC. The sushi is incredible, the service impecable and the atmosphere O' so fine. The chef's are great (and hook you up especially if you buy them a beer).. Most of the time I don't order anything.. my beautiful wife and I sit by our favorite chef and just tell him to hook us up with what he thinks is good on that day. Don't get me wrong, I have had the baked lobster roll, and other speciality rolls, but still haven't had a problem with any of the suggested dishes. I literally go there 2 or 3 times a month. Can't go wrong.

O Fine has a cool, contemporary atmosphere, and the restaurant seems a lot bigger inside than it appears to be from the outside. I had made a reservation on Opentable, and when I had to call and change it for a half an hour later, the host was very accommodating. We started with the Spicy Tuna Cracker. This appetizer was large and pretty filling for two people. The combination of flavors was really good. I can see why our server said it was a good choice when we ordered it. For my entree I had the Spicy Tuna Roll with 7 piece Sushi. It came with miso soup, which I enjoyed. The spicy tuna roll was definitely spicy, and it was nice that the tuna was chopped rather than pulverized the way some places serve it. All the nigiri sushi was tender and flavorful. With the appetizer, I couldn't finish all of the spicy tuna roll after eating the sushi, so I would definitely say the portions are generous.

Went on a Sunday night, we were quite a large group (12) so we were seated in a private room, which was cool. The decor is very nice but the music in the background is "elevator music" (aka very dull classic music). The service was very good, waitress often came to check on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Food was quick to come out As for the food, I was very hungry so i actually had the dinner special, chose the terryaki prime steak & terryaki salmon (come with miso soup, salad & rice). Everything tasted great! Then I had two hand rolls, spicy tune & spicy salmon. The tuna was made to perfection, the salmon was a tad bit too spicy. Overall the food is great They charged us 20% gratuity which was a bit high I thought, the place is pricy but overall you do get what u pay for.

O is one of, if not THE, best sushi restaurants in Irvine. I used to live less than five miles from it and probably went once every 10 days or so. I moved to Long Beach three weeks ago and have already made the drive to O for dinner. I always order a lemon roll - it's not on the menu so be sure to ask for it. And during the summer ask for the mango roll. They have a short happy hour that I have only made it to once but the waitress suggested we try the brussel sprouts and they were amazing! I am also a fan of the spicy tuna cracker. One order comes with four "crackers" and it's a great appetizer. I highly recommend trying O next time you are craving sushi.

Can I say -- FINALLY!!!!!! In the past I've always had to drive outside of Irvine to get some decent sushi, but thanks to O Fine, I now only have to drive 3 mins to get some. I've been here several times now and each time, the sushi has been of really good quality. The fish is very fresh and there is actual flavor in the fish. I prefer to sit at the sushi bar when having sushi, but on the occasions I've sat at a table, the sushi has been stellar as well. The lunch menu has some nice items, but I suggest you don't order the beef yakiniku if you are getting the bento combos. The beef was so grisly and tough I couldn't chew on it, which is a shame because the flavor of the sauce, onions and mushrooms were seriously good. I like the saba shioyaki and they are very generous with it, giving a big piece for the combo lunch. The other thing I really like is the spicy tuna on crispy sesame rice crackers.... that was very tasty even though I'm not a mayo fan and they drizzled some mayo over the top of it. Overall, I am very happy with this place especially its proximity to my home!

One of My GO TO places for Sushi during a lunch rush. You would think that being in a busy shopping center with several other restaurants that they would be busier... Someone needs to talk to the Marketing guy because they are never busy when I pop in for lunch and their sushi is amazing... I like to order what I am comfortable with. My ususal is a Rainbow Roll, Salmon Sashimi and an Iced Green Tea. It's slightly on the expensive side but it's so satisfying and light for lunch. I have never had bad or less than fresh fish here. This is a must for anyone looking for good sushi for lunch near Irvine.

I was craving sashimi and haven't enjoyed other places we tried in Irvine. We decided to give O a try since the Yelp reviews were pretty good. I'm so glad we did!! This is our new lunch spot!! I love their sashimi lunch combo A. The fish is always fresh, the service is always awesome, and they have fresh uni! The spicy tuna on crispy rice is the best! My daughter loves the fried chicken. Since we've discovered this place, we've been coming almost once a week. Some of the servers recognize us now!

I have been coming here for many years. I love the menu now. There is such a wide selection of items and the selections for the combination dinner are excellent. I particularly enjoyed the lobster dynamite. If you like lobster, this is a definite must! The sea bass trio was also good, and brings variety to the dinner. Service is fast, and the waiters are all very welcoming. The pricing is a bit expensive, but I think it's worth it for the taste and variety.

Absolutely No Complaints at all with the service and the ambiance here. They know what they should do. Atmosphere was aight. One kind waitress even made a curry ton katsu requested by my daughter that was not on the menu. Chirashi (scattered sushi) has to contain from top-quality sashimi down to common ones decorated together. The way of decoration looked just aight but the bowl contains just raw fish, common sashimi. There was no piece of Uni (sea urchin) not even yellow tail (Hamachi) But pricey enough Well, it might have to be common one due to its lunch menu. I might be trying one in dinner time if someone invites me.

Very nice and fancy. An ideal spot to take a date to eat sushi because it had a hip and modern feel to the interior. Waiter service was ok, it was hard to flag down someone when you need something. Tuna tartar: Excellent. A bit pricey for 6 pieces but they sure packed. TNT: I thought it was just ok. Super Poke Roll: Packed with poke and spicy tuna. I would recommend this. Tuna Salad: Pretty small for what it is. Nonetheless, it has a good mix. I wouldn't mind coming back here.

O man, what can I say... This place has the best sushi in the OC and possibly ever! At least for me. My BF and I came here after finding it on Yelp. And we've been twice since then! We made reservations for a party of 18. I'll start off with the dishes I had, then explain why you should never come to this joke of a restaurant. 10 PIECE SASHIMI LUNCH SPECIAL ($14.95, includes 4 pc Spicy Tuna, 4 pc Cali Roll, 2 Pc Crispy Tuna) - The actual sashimi was subpar except for the salmon, which was great. A few of the pieces were pretty tough, and one piece of sashimi was about the size of my fingernail. I guess that counts as a piece. The crispy tuna was fantastic, and the cali and spicy tuna rolls were whatever TNT ROLL ($15ish) - Pretty good. I'd order it again, as there was the right amount of flavor and fish. Well balanced, no complaints. The service. Oh my. I understand 18 people is a lot, but THE SERVICE WAS ATROCIOUS. The entire meal took over 2 hours because they were so slow. Half the table was completely finished with their meals before the other half even got theirs. When we asked where everyone else's was, they kept saying 'coming' and nothing would come. They weren't complex orders either. Maybe 1 roll per person and some appetizers. The long waits were bad enough, but the waitstaff just didn't care at all and became pretty defensive and rude towards the end. We had to leave for meetings (because no one expects to spend 2 hours at lunch unless it's the customer's discretion), and they wouldn't take items that weren't there after 2 hours off the bill - they said they'd give them to us to go. Uhhh. Who wants old sushi? Even the mochi took forever, and it's pre-packaged. You can get good sushi in a bunch of places in Orange County. I implore you to look elsewhere unless you want the slowest service on the planet mixed in with a touch of rude and complete lack of care.

First time here for lunch. The ambiance was nice and sleek in the main part of the restaurant, my friend and I were seated in the back room. No one else was in the room. We had that feeling that no one would know we were there. Sure enough no one came to take our order. I peeked out of the room, a waiter noticed and came into the room. He said, "You ready" I ordered Lunch F, my friend debated between Lunch B and C, she settled on Lunch C. When our food was delivered We were presented with a nice looking tray of Sashimi, and tray of Sushi. Another order came out, my Poke Bowl, 2 other trays of Ca rolls and Sushi burrito, etc. I asked the waitress if all of this is for two meals? She said is was three meals. I told her I had F and my friend had C, It appeared that B was also ordered. She took lunch B back. About 5 minutes later the waiter came back and tried to set down lunch B again, he told me that I ordered it. I said no. He proceeded to push the trays into our faces, insisting that I ordered it. I said why would we order three lunches for two people. It made us very uncomfortable. Pushing the plates in our face arguing with us about the third meal. Is this who you treat your customers? We are offended about how the waiter treated us. This is Irvine there are hundreds of Sushi places that treat their customers nice.

Super fast service. Quality food. We had the baked lobster roll, rainbow spider rolls. Eddie was awesome.

I tried one of their sushi lunch specials and it was a fairly average sushi experience. The fish was not the best quality, and it was especially noticeable with their traditional nigiri. I can see how their Americanized rolls might be enjoyable, as they are heavy on the sauces, creative, and mask the quality of the sushi. However, for people who enjoy traditional sushi, O Fine would not be a place I recommend. The lunch special also did not come with soup or salad. Not a big deal but felt like they were skimping. The "sushi burrito" that my waitress highly recommended was heavy on the rice and really not anything to rave about. This was my first time trying sushi in Irvine, so I am comparing to sushi in SF, NYC, and DC. Perhaps O Fine is a solid option in Irvine, but my experience was below average. Pros are they have quick lunch service, and the ambiance is nicer than most sushi restaurants. Parking is easy in the large strip mall lot.

This place has really gone down-hill. If you order a bento or a combo for dinner, you won't get rice or salad or soup. I ordered chicken teryiyaki and literally got a small plate of chicken. That's it. It was also very expensive. Around $25 for that small plate. I asked to speak to the manager, but manager refused. If you go there, you will notice that the customers are mostly Caucasians. Any Asian-Americans know better than to dine here.

Overpriced and small portions. Fried rice for $16 dollars and small bowl of ramen for $12 dollars!! Stay away from the teriyaki chicken because the portion is small and dried out.Absolutely ridiculous!!! I left here still hungry and ripped off.

I was really impressed by the presentation of all of the dishes. A lot of detail put into everything from the Izakaya sampler which they are known for to the beautifully laid out rolls. The beef was super tasty and the salad was fresh. To top it off was yummy green tea ice cream!

Saturday night @ 8:00 pm. O Fine was hopping. Smart move on our part making a reservation on Open Table at the last minute. Live Uni was stellar. Scottish trout was exceptional. Crispy sashimi roll and O roll were perfectly constructed. Charles, your service was flawless. Thank you for your personal attention on a very busy night. Your whole staff gave us another memorable evening. See you soon.

Should be O fine.. im cool with getting ripped off. came here for take out... ordered a seabass and chicken teriyaki... total came out to be $40. out comes two to go boxes that are pretty pathetic. just because you live in irvine doesnt mean we should be ripped off. rather go to tokyo table or taiko. food and service has gone down hill the past year. maybe the owner is too busy spending his $$$

O Fine Japanese Cuisine offers quality Sushi and Japanese in South Irvine. Until the emergence of O Fine Japanese Cuisine, South Irvine only had one real Sushi option and that was Izakaya Wasa which is located in the Spectrum. Thankfully if you want to eschew the mall experience but still crave an authentic Sushi you have this clutch option. O Fine has a very chic interior and an ambiance that makes you forget you are in a strip mall and capable service to boot. Add a full size Sushi bar and appetizer and alcohol specials and you have a recipe for a great evening. The menu is gargantuan and features everything from Nigiri to Sukiyaki and everything in-between including a righteous Chillean Seabass Misoyaki. Some notables on my several visits include the Salmon Collar Shioyaki, Scallop Dynamite (Baked Japanese Scallops with Onion, Mushrooms, Asparagus & Snow Crabmeat), the Potstickers and their amazing Avocado Volcano (Baked Snow Crab & Scallop on a halved Avocado. Are you kidding me?). The Sushi is also nothing to scoff at. Fresh seafood, perfect sticky rice and the skilled hands of the Sushi Chefs produce one legitimate product. The Toro, Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Albacore, Shrimp and Uni are all completely on point. Another must is their flagship creation; The O Roll. Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Avocado, Asparagus, Kani kama are served in sliced cucumber sans Rice. It is one of the most refreshing flavor combinations I have ever tried and absolutely perfect on a hot summer night in OC. The prices are par for the course and you can easily drop a bill on a dinner for two if you order less than modestly but I have always been one to spend a bit more on Sushi/Sushi Fusion for quality and O Fine puts out solid cuts. The restaurant has bare concrete floors and a young clientele so it can get quite loud at peak times, something to be aware of if you are looking for a calm meal or if on a first date. Other than that, O Fine rocks the house.

Decent sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen in California. This is a decent sushi restaurant. The ambiance is nice, it gives the impression of being more upscale than the average sushi restaurant. Service is great. I came here and got a couple rolls (sexy Laguna roll, rainbow roll), sashimi (yellow tail belly), sushi (sweet shrimp, albacore), and a couple other sides. Nothing special here. As several other people mentioned, prices are fairly high for the quality of sushi.

This place is phenomenal. I usually order the crunchy dragon roll & I love it every single time. Food tastes fresh & they're usually pretty quick bringing it out after you order. It can get pretty crowded come dinner time, but really worth it. I would certainly come back.

This was the first time that we visited O in Irvine & we were seriously impressed. The atmosphere was classy, open, & roomy & smelled clean & fresh walking in the door. The staff was exceptionally attentive & the suggestions they offered were spot on. Food was fresh, hot when it was supposed to be & cold when it was supposed to be. Beautiful presentation with bright crisp flavors. Tried Uni, Salmon Eggs, and Kobe Beef rolls. Amazing! The staff found out it was my Birthday & sang to me with some Green Tea Ice Cream with candle. Great ambiance, excellent food, fantastic service. We'll be back!

Whenever I go to dinner with my brother, we typically go get sushi and we rarely sit at the bar. However, something must have possessed my brother to take a chance and he chose to get seated at the sushi bar. OMG...RARE! So I was happy to show him the ropes, but unfortunately, O Fine Sushi is not the type of spot for omakase, but I entertained the idea anyway. Anything is possible. It's just a matter of how much you're willing to pay for it. Started off with Halibut & Truffle Oil. The truffle oil is so tasty, but definitely overpowers the delicate sashimi. A little goes a long way. Brother went with the Sashimi Platter B, which for $29.99 is NOT a bad deal at all for a few select premium cuts. You get 10 pieces total - egg, eel, sea urchin, Spanish mackerel, albacore, live sweet shrimp, halibut, yellowtail, bluefin tuna, medium fatty tuna and a fried shrimp head. That was filling for my bro, but I pretty much ate double that amount on my own. Sometimes I question my appetite too. My "omakase": Japanese snapper with a bit of shiso leaf and a small dollop of yuzu kosho (paste made of chili peppers, yuzu peel & salt). Chef says, "no soy sauce." Tender, melt-in-your-mouth perfection and the shiso/yuzu kosho added some aromatics to each bite. Hamachi (yellowtail). It almost tasted like the belly cut because it was very buttery, but I could be wrong. Raw oysters with ponzu sauce, some green onions and masago. They were about the size of Kumamoto oysters, although I'm not sure what variation of oyster it is. Not briny, but it was drowning in ponzu so there wasn't any other layers to that. Spanish mackerel. I'm not a fan of the fishy taste, but this one wasn't as pungent. The ginger on top really helped mask the strong flavor along with a light brush of ponzu sauce. Toro served two ways. 1) Nigiri topped with fresh wasabi and lightly brushed with soy sauce 2) Sashimi - lightly seared/torched, wrapped with a small sliver of shiso leaf and topped with the fresh wasabi. I LOVE WASABI so I tried the sashimi first to get the full texture/feel/taste of the toro. YUM! Uni (sea urchin). One of my fav things that I always have (unless they are sold out!). When you sit at the bar, you SEE things. The chef was doing kitchen prep and I saw how the uni was prepared and stored. He empties out the package and puts the uni on top of a few paper napkins. From there, he picks out the whole pieces to use for sushi. It was rad to see that, cause paying MP (market price) for mediocre uni is a waste and you're the one on the losing end of the stick. Ankimo (monkfish liver). Nothing special, I've had better. Tako (octopus). This was a bit tough and chewy for my liking. I was hoping it would be more crisp but it was whatevers. It was wrong of me to deviate from the plan haha. The chef had made a few recommendations like bluefin and something else, but I turned them down and this is what happened. Disappointment ahah. Kanpachi (amberjack) topped with that yuzu kosho. A great way to end the meal and now I'm just obsessed with that condiment. Yuzu is a game changer for sushi in my opinion. O Fine Sushi is a pretty chill spot, but not for omakase because they don't really do that. They also cater to a different crowd. Another couple had sat down at the bar and asked the chef, "what's good today? what's fresh?" The chef proceeded to list great choices, but they chose to start off with a Spider roll. Why did you even bother asking if you're gonna get rolls?? -__- The selection is fresh and some of their other menu items are quite tasty. For example, poke chips, Wagyu beef carpaccio and garlic shishito peppers are all great choices.

I went there for the second time for lunch but I had not previously reviewed the restaurant. In reviewing their revised menu, I was disappointed by the bento box offerings, so I ordered something called a Chirachi bowl, which mainly consisted of sashimi atop a bowl of sticky rice. The people with me ordered more lavishly, selecting the O Roll, the baked lobster roll, the baked scallop roll and the crunch BBQ eel roll. I have to admit that I am more of a purest and prefer raw fish to the baked rolls, that to me represent a kind of eye candy--tantilizing at first but ultimately unfulfilling and overly doused in various sauces. Overall, I give O Fine middle of the road marks. What I had and sampled was fine but I think there are better places for those who want a more traditional dining experience. I am sure from the reviews that there are those who disagree with that assessment and for them this may be the one they go back to again.

I'll start off by saying this is the best sushi you can find in Irvine. I've tried close to everything there but it took me a while to come across this place. The super poke roll is mine and my boyfriends favorite roll! It's $16 bucks, which is expensive but it's so fresh and piled with sashimi on top. The last time we went there, we got 5 specialty rolls plus the spicy garlic edamame and a beer, and the bill came to $95. It was a birthday celebration so we went all out, normally we get 3 rolls since it is pricey. It's really hard for me to subtract a star for the prices because i really have not found ANYTHING better in that area. It's genuinely delicious sushi! They also use less rice then most places so you really are getting a decent amount of fish. Service is always very fast, and I have no complaints about the staff! So far, they are nice, not over the top. They get the job done. The last time I went here, I took my boyfriend for his birthday dinner as our friends were preparing for his surprise party back at home... The service was SO FAST that our dinner only took 45 minutes, so I had to lag and take him out to dessert. Iv been here 4+ times, and have left happy and satisfied each time.

This is our go to local Japanese restaurant. We are there most likely once a week! The cooked food is ok, the sushi rolls are pretty good and the specialty rolls are interesting and creative. My husband and I don't eat much raw fish but we enjoy their low carb rolls that are done with no rice and wrapped with soy paper. We really like the Hamachi Kama but they always seem to run out rather fast even when we go early! For a while we would call ahead of time to have them reserve one for us. Now we just get the salmon cheek that is also pretty good. The nabeyabi udon is also one of my "usual". The udon is very fresh and chewy, the soup base is well balanced but it does have quite a bit of the black mushrooms. The agedashi tofu is good but not as good at some other places I've had before. We like going there because it's so close to our place and there is never a wait. The service is good too bad the food is just average.

So I came in today with one of my friends after a full day of work and school trying to just grab a quick bite and call it day... absolutely exhausted, we stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a try. I must say... LOVE LOVE LOVE I fell in love with this place from the getgo!! The interior is so modern and clean, the staff is so friendly, and the food is great quality too!! Everything was super FRESH. As you can see from my picture, I tried a lot of their different foods and I devoured all of it hahaha I came in at happy hour so I actually ordered a lot more but I got too excited and ate it all before I got a chance to take a picture... whoops... but it was just THAT good hahaha The place was slowly filling up but the chefs were right on their game, happily satisfying my fattiness hahaha even the manager came around asking how things were hahaha Shout out to our server Frances too!! She was absolutely adorable and made great recommendations. She even explained the different fish we ordered cause I'm allergic to some things. Great attitude and definitely knows her stuff!! The atmosphere is wonderful and it's a great sushi stop for family outings AND date night. Prices are reasonable and great considering the quality too. As I said in the beginning, I came in lowkey cranky, just trying to get through the week and my mood was totally changed by the end of the night. I left totally happy and my belly satisfied hahaha can't wait to come back!!

Came here today with my sister and the food and service was amazing. One of my favorite rolls is the Japanese Burrito. And I highly recommend the tempura ice cream. It's perfect! Not greasy like other restaurants. It's so good! And the prices are fair too! Our server Cody checked up on us very often and made sure we had a 100% satisfying dining experience. Very professional server. Other Japanese restaurants I've been too, I always had a few things to complain about. But here, I don't have anything bad to say. I highly recommend this place! Try it out!(: By the way, if you love ginger, this place knows the definition of EXTRA ginger. Not like the other restaurants where their definition of extra ginger is 2 more pieces..

At 11:30am, they open their door for the lunch crowd... if you are one of the first 10 customers, you have the option to order their lunch special which comes out with more dishes than you would imagine. I have gone twice for this special and both times, I have been thoroughly impressed. Here is what I had the last time I visited: - udon soup with tempura and other goodies - salad - 4pc crunch roll, 4pc spicy roll - appetizer platter- two cheese mussels, roasted Brussels sprouts, and two chicken karaage skewers (this was probably my favorite that day) All of this for $9.80; now that's a steal! This lunch special is indeed special!

Good service but bad food... Not worth the money. The rice was too mushy for the sushi and the quantity you get for the price is too little. What a waste.

Went for lunch today and had high expectations. We arrived and there were quite a few seats open, both at the bar and in the dining area. They put us in the back room that is used for meetings. It has a projector and pull-down screen. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO SEAT YOU IN THIS ROOM. It's a black hole. They forget about you. My lunch partner received her 2 rolls and I had to wait for my salmon skin salad. There's nothing to this salad. Why would I have to wait? We will never know. We also had to wait for the check, I asked twice for the bill...crickets. The rolls looked good, my salad wasn't. It basically consisted of mixed greens and chopped up crunchy salmon skin sprinkled on top. You can get a really nice Salmon Skin Salad from Tomikawa. I'll remember to go there next time. They have better service too.

This place is the BEST Japanese restaurant in Irvine! Sashimi is very fresh and yummy! Must try the oyesters and uni too! We always ordered udon with sushi rolls on the side for the kids and they eat them all too. Service is excellent! We will definitely go back again.

Our visit was more pleasing than expected. My boyfriend and I loved the modern interior designs, the comfy chairs/booth and music right off the bat. Because this was our last stop during our food adventure, we were stuffed. But I'm glad we were able to try the avocado volcano and brussel sprouts with pecans. THEY WERE SO GOOD. Highly recommended as an appetizer!! :)))))) The table next to us ordered the live uni sushi and it looked really fresh and the plating was clean and beautiful! We would have definitely tried it if we weren't too full The staff was super nice, quick and attentive. Chef Eric-san hooked us up with the cutest bear made out of orange. Cutest thing ever! :) Our waitress, Thien, was super cute and knowledgable about the dishes. Also, her water game was on point! Lol My water cup was never empty! I liked that they have sushi platters and sashimi samplers for dinner. The only thing that I wish they had was some sort of kitchen combo for dinner time, like they do at lunch time. But maybe they're trying to focus on selling more on their quality items like sashimi/sushi.. this IS a sushi restaurant... yeahh, its a bit expensive but you pay for the freshness, presentation and chill atmosphere.

This restaurant has changed its menu and is now ridiculously expensive. The rolls are all at least $15, and there are no options that are reasonable for young children who aren't yet sushi eaters. For example, chicken teriyaki is $14, and chicken skewers (you have to order three) are $9. This used to be a great neighborhood place that has taken a weird, wanna be chi chi turn. It's just too cost prohibitive now to frequent. If I'm spending this kind of money on sushi, it ain't gonna be at O Fine. What a bummer.

Got sushi takeout here for the first time last night. Easy ordering process over the phone and it didn't take long at all for the food to be ready. TNT Roll - This was my least favorite of the 3 rolls we got. Some of the flavors seemed a bit confusing for what it was and the ahi used wasn't of the highest quality. That said, it was still pretty good. Yellowtail Roll - Simple and tasty, just the way it should be. The jalepeno on top was perfectly and finely cut and added a great touch. Tiger Roll - My favorite roll of the bunch. The shrimp provided a nice snap and change in texture and the flavors were phenomenal. The creamy sauce it comes with was the perfect accompaniment. All in all the food was good and I would certainly go back. It has a great location and the restaurant itself seemed to have a cool vibe when I was there to pick up the food. I certainly wouldn't mind dining in next time.

Don't be fooled by the fancy interior of this restaurant. The chic and modern decor is there to mask the slow service, the deafening dining rooms and the mediocre food. The slow service--- It took our waitress 30 minutes to serve us water and to ask what we wanted for appetizers. When our room temperature calamari was finally served, we told the waitress we were ready to order. She said she'd be right back but didn't come back for another 10 minutes --after we'd already demolished our calamari. The food came out sporadically, which is fine because raw fish needs to be served fresh. But the combination plates took what felt like forever to be served. My poor mother was eating by herself because me and my brothers had finished long before she was served. The deafening dining rooms--- The concept is cool --small, private and intimate rooms to enjoy food over conversations with your table. The execution is terrible here. It was so loud, I couldn't hear myself think. I thought it was because I got unlucky with a large party at the table next to me. But as I walked through the other emptier rooms, I realized they were just as loud. What's the point of eating with people when you can't hear them speak? The mediocre food--- This place tricks you into thinking their food is amazing because of they're small portions on large plates. But the rolls and combination plate taste a lot like something I could get elsewhere for a cheaper price. I can't say the food is bad, but I can't say it's anything special either. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with this place. Maybe I was having bad luck that day, but I won't be returning to try my luck again.

There's something off-putting about a restaurant that puts the phrase "Fine Japanese Cuisine" in their title. That assessment should never be self-proclaimed. If you're truly a fine dining establishment, you don't need to tell people about it. I was really disappointed with the service here. After I and my girlfriend were seated, the hostess seated another couple behind us. The hostess chose to squeeze herself and the two other patrons between our table and an adjoining one instead of using the much larger walkway along the sushi bar. The net result was that I got a face full of ass from the other customers. The soy sauce dish on my table was dirty. I told the waitress about it, and she never came around to replace it. The next time she came around she proclaimed, "Oh! I forgot to get your soy sauce dish!" That was really all she said. No apologies, no follow up statement like "I'll grab you one right now". Minutes later I ended up fetching one for myself from another table. We also waited a very long time between visits from the waitress. It wasn't just our table. The table next to us also complained that the waitress hadn't shown up to take their order for quite a while. We were all ready to order another bottle of sake, but we had finished our meal by the time she finally came around. The wait staff is very inexperienced. They are very young and you can tell that this is most likely their first job. Their attention to detail is very poor. The only thing preventing me from giving O a single star is because the food was good (although the food is **way** overpriced). Calling yourself a fine dining establishment doesn't give you license to overcharge for a meal. O might be a good place to go for lunch, if you stick with the lunch specials or if you don't mind paying high prices. As far as a romantic or celebratory dinner goes though, O is not a good option.

I love Japanese food, so I was really excited to go to this place. The restaurant is super clean, very modern looking with nice lighting. We were sat down at the sushi bar, and waited, waited, waited..... After about ten minutes, the sushi chef looks up and says hello. We ordered a few rolls and started our meal. I ordered hot green tea, and they brought me a cup of warm water and a tea bag????????Yes, a tea bag??? That's equivalent to going to a Mexican restaurant and they give you a bag of Doritos. That was the first sign that something was amiss. We ordered calamari, wow, the picture of it looked awesome. What came was about five to ten small pieces for seven dollars. This just made me love Taiko more (only Taiko customers would know what I mean). The worst thing that happened on this forgetful night was receiving the bill. It was over fifty dollars! I thought there must be a mistake, so I scrutinized it. As i was going down the bill line by line, item by item, our sushi chef was looking away and seemed to be avoiding my gaze. There were two Dragon rolls charged to us, and we had only ordered one. I waited, waited, waited......(Our chef, the other waiters, other restaurant staff members were busy). They seemed to avoid me??? After five minutes, I stood up and walked up to a gentleman at the cash register, and I had to almost yell, "Excuse me, I need some assistance......" Oh, yes what can I do for you?" he replied. The bill is wrong. We have been overcharged by $12 dollars. He said he would correct it. He didn't even ask the sushi chef. He just changed it???? I sat back down, and our sushi chef looks up like a bear had just come out of hibernation, "Was there a problem?" "Did I write down two rolls instead of one?" The whole thing seemed like maybe it has happened before?????I know these kind of things happen, but this felt odd???? Scratch OFine off my list of Fine Japanese restaurants in Irvine.

Very, very expensive for lunch. They have lunch special menu posted on their web site but don't offer it. They say : "oh, sorry. We changed our menus months ago". I came for the 11.95 bento/combo and had to get the $13.95 price for it. It is good quality, but very expensive. Oh my god, the salad dressing was terrible. It was the hottest dressing in my entire life. It tasted like straight wasabi. Soup was a bit salty. One of the 5 person in our group got his dish quite a bit after everyone else got theirs. I think they might have forgotten since it was a very simple single-course dish. The wait staff, although friendly, seem to be somewhat inexperienced (and all young). Restiarant was clean and very nice decor. Portions were large, thus the 3rd star.

Excellent sashimi and a very good sushi selection. I have been here for lunch four times in one week and tried both their set lunches (chirashi and their sashimi plates) as well as purely al la carte. In all cases, the food has been first-rate. The place is attractive in a typical outdoor dining/mall area that appears to be quite new. Their lunches represent excellent value. Even when adding in a portion or two of high-end sashimi, the price was reasonable. Highly recommended. I will certainly be back when I am in Irvine again in a few weeks.

There was no wait time to be seated, service was great, and the food is delicious. Sushi is on the pricier side but it's totally worth it. The fish is extremely fresh and the chefs work really hard as well! Will come back anytime only if I didn't live too far.

I almost did not write a review for this place until I ate at a place two days later that was noticably better yet cheaper. I had the Seabass Trio, and 2 sushi special rolls, (The Crunch Red Dragon Roll and Tiger Roll) and green tea ice cream. I only liked one part of the sea bass trio, the grilled sea bass and i still did not like it that much, it was a bit to flaky and did not taste like sea bass. The miso seabass was really salty and the Tempura Seabass was dripping oil greasy. I did not eat the remaining two-thirds after taking 2-3 small bites from each. The special rolls were just not very good. I don't like writing positive reviews b/c i don't want my favorite restaurants to get pricier, but I write negative reviews hoping they will improve and that I can come back and enjoy my experience. The sauces were just generic spicy mayo or some with teriyaki or eel sauce, which they called their "creamy sauce"...The tiger roll was too salty, and crunch red dragon, with its eel sauce just can't compete with some of the stuff that I have tasted, although the texture was good. Occasionally using just that basic eel sauce can work, like at sushi Dake in anaheim, i ordered a spider roll , and it was better than I expected. Also the green tea ice cream tasted awful as if it were a kroger brand or walmart brand, I ended up one eighth of the two lumpy scoops they gave me. I also had a green tea at sushi dake, where I received three scoops beautifully presented with some whip cream, chocolate sauce, and strawberries. Sushi Dake's Green Tea ice cream tasted like Haagen Daz compared to the kind at o fine. I finished all three scoops inside of three minutes and was licking the plate. The place does have a nice lighting, which lends to the atmosphere although the waiters and hostess seem like high school kids and they definitely aren't Japanese, which takes away from the atmosphere.

My new fav sushi spot. Very authentic Japanese restaurant. They have happy hour from 5-6:30. Great spot for lunch as well, and service is great

Awful. Terrible. Horrible. Horrendous. Disappointing. Frustrating. THE WORST. It's kinda like Alexander's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Except without the humor and at the same time, much worse. (sad that negative stars isn't an option) Unfortunately, this review is about the business and doesn't actually have anything to do with their food. If you enjoy eating food from a restaurant that fails to pay those who do work for them, have at it. The lack of respect that this company has for those who have worked tirelessly on their behalf is incredibly disgraceful. Would eat grocery store sushi FROM A DUMPSTER before stooping to purchase something from this mockery of a business. Really frustrated with this place. Hoping to never have to stop by again. As a side note, the employees at the front were really rude. I came in to pick up a check--and they were basically too busy to even talk with me for more than ten seconds at a time. It felt like nobody cared to help or take any time to even try to listen to what I was there for. I repeat: THE WORST

I've been here a few times with my family. Their sushi is fresh but expensive. My kids like the miso soup. Portions are smaller but service is friendly.

O Fine is trying too hard to be something they are not. The decor and fancy plating trick you to think you are eating at a fine-dining restaurant, but the bad service and mediocre food states otherwise. First of all, why have a sign by the door about the daily specials when NONE OF THEM ARE AVAILABLE? I asked about the kanpachi that was on the sign and they said they were out of it. Okay, fine that can happen. So then we ask about the oysters. Don't have that either. Now that's annoying. I could understand if they were super busy, but it was pretty empty in there. Also, our server had no clue about any of the market prices for the fish, and she was just soooooooooo sloooooooowwww. Very spacey and clueless. Every time we'd ask her a question, she would need another server or the sushi chefs to answer it. Honestly, I would come back if the service was at least better. They need to hire new servers and/or train them properly. I just always end up leaving annoyed.

Food here is a little on the pricier side, though the sushi's quality and taste is immaculate. I had the Sushi A platter, which provided an assortment of sashimi fish. Also, we chose two different roles, one was the popcorn roll. Comparative to other sushi restaurants in the area, such as Taiko, the quality and taste is much more exceptional here! The ambiance was a huge plus as well--perfect for dates or business meetings. Loved the modern look! Reminded me of the nice high-rise restaurants you would find in Los Angeles. With the seats white and plush, and the lightning providing an oceanic blue, one would feel as if you were blasted into a futuristic Japanese spaceship.

Food is excellent but very pricey. Their yellowtail collar, which is an appetizer, is 17.00. typically, this is 7.00-9.00. Its a special occasion place.

Came in on a Friday night at 9:20 got seated right away when we came in. The environment looks really nice. It was our first time here and we asked the waitress what would she suggest she told us her favorite. We got what she suggested and it was so Good ! We ended up getting 3 rolls. It was all raw fish.

Lots of potential but needs to work on service. Don't bring all the food out all at once! Please let us enjoy it. Plus, the plates are big and it crowds the table so we try to eat faster and don't really taste it. Izakaya was yum if you can handle some spice. Toro - yum!! Soft shell crab - very good!! A must get :) Lobster roll - eh...I've had better but then I'm not a mayo person. Decor and space here is great. Kid er stroller friendly! Plus you can make reservations.

Very good service. We went on a Saturday night and it was decently filled. The rolls are extremely good and my prom group really enjoyed the Laguna Roll. Pricing is completely reasonable as well. The atmosphere is very soothing and looks professional. Very nice dinner.

I was kind of worried when reading all the negative reviews on here. However, the good reviews made me want to at least try this place at least once to see for myself. I'd actually only been to this rather nice small to medium size strip mall located just a couple of miles straight down the road from where I live. I really like the size of the place, the atmosphere, and availability of parking. Anyway, I entered this place with lowered expectations and prepared myself for the worst....service wise. As soon as I entered, I thought this was a very nicely decorated modern and trendy restaurant with an open sushi bar with about 3 chefs busily making their sushi.....no one was sitting at the sushi bar, but the rest of the restaurant was pretty busy. It took a little while for the hostess to notice me as she was busy preparing checks, so once she saw me standing there waiting, she said to just give her a minute and she'll be right with me. Ok, I was starting to get a bit worried now. Once I was led to my table, the mood changed. I could see that the servers were very busy attending to other customers who had just been seated and it was obvious that they were a bit understaffed. However, before I knew it, a server came up to me and asked me if I had ordered a drink yet, and I said no. I asked for Ocha (green tea), and she gave me a blank stare and said "Ocha?" .....eer, ok, green tea I said....oh ok! Hmmm. I had taken a look at the menu online before coming here since some reviewers mentioned it being a bit confusing. Yes, it was, but I had decided to go with the 2 item combo with Chicken Katsu ($1 extra for breast meat) and the 6-piece Sashimi.....I think the confusion comes with the conditions some of the items have when you select them from the different groups of choices. For example, items (pricier) from the second group can only be selected if you choose the 2 or 3 item combos, and so on. I figured this was my first time here so I'd judge the food on my basic Japanese items that no Japanese restaurant should get wrong. Within 2 minutes of ordering, my sashimi arrived. It actually looked good....nicely presented and looked fresh. Taste wise, yes, it was definitely fresh and yummy. I had a bit of an issue with the size of the cuts though.....rather small and thin, but I guess this may have been because it was part of a combo lunch special (i.e. special lunch price). Perhaps the main sashimi orders had larger portions....will have to try next time. Then there was the chicken katsu (fried breaded chicken cutlet). It was good. Unlike some other restaurants that flatten the meat till it's really thin so that it looked bigger in surface area, this one still had its juicy thickness to it, and you could actually see the meat....it was actually pretty good. With the combo came a bowl of rice (cooked perfectly), a bowl of miso soup, salad with Japanese dressing, and some vegetables (grilled or boiled I don't remember). Overall, it was a much better experience than I had expected. Service was quite good as the server kept my tea cup filled and the various servers did ask me how everything was and if I needed anything else? Considering how busy it was, I would say they were relatively friendly. Oh, and for those who are on a carb diet, I did notice that there were some sushi rolls on the menu served without rice. They looked like they were wrapped in a tortilla or something......in fact, it could be a thin tortilla as they have an item called a "Japanese Burrito" on the menu. Because I like this strip mall for its location, convenience and the good service and food I had today, I'll definitely be back. Yes, it's not cheap, but like everybody knows, this is Irvine.

I came here with coworkers the other day, and we ordered about 8 different types of sushi. I can't remember all the names but we definitely had the baked lobster roll, rainbow roll, Sexy Laguna roll, and spicy tuna roll. All were very fresh and absolutely delicious! I do have to admit, though, that I've had better baked lobster rolls. The one at O had a terrific flavor but it was slightly on the tough and fishy side, compared to others I've had. We had started with miso soup as well (which does not come with the meal)- it was good but nothing special. The ambiance and service is excellent! I gave 4 stars and not 5 because it really is on the expensive side. I'm sure you're paying for the classiness as much as you're paying for the food. I would highly recommend this place for a date, lunch with a client you are trying to impress, or special occasion. However, if you're just in the mood for sushi, there are sooo many places that are equally delicious but more affordable.

Charles runs a great establishment. The servers and chefs are very nice and accomodating. As regular customers we love our time at OFine and the excellent food and service. Compared to quality sushi restuarants we have visited from NYC, LA and elsewhere I can tell you OFine is outstanding! Quality fresh fish, great selection, wonderful creations and of course they have live Uni when many others don't have any! I can say we appreciate your efforts and we always are excited when we know it's OFine night!

Pluses: It's clean with nice decor. The food looks nice and is decently fresh. The house sake is a nice deal. Unfortunately, I've been here many times (no other sushi places are close or convenient nearby) and learned that problems here are far from flukes. To be fair, I've probably had at least half my visits be free of problems... but not a great ratio. -Pacing is a problem. Once came with a group, and they only brought food out for half the table! We waited politely FOREVER for the other half. We chatted for a loooong time. Finally started eating slowly at friends' insistence. Actually finished our food. Friends still starving and without food. No food until after several complaints. Then we had to sit and watch them eat. Other times were on smaller scales: The waitress MIA after we needed one more minute with the menu. Waiting and waiting for the check. -I got stabbed in the roof of my mouth by a huge bone in my salmon nigiri. Received just an apology and a new plate of dangerous sushi. Thankfully the wound didn't get infected or I would've sent them my doctor's bill... Been too scared to eat salmon here since. -No sushi or sashimi combo on the menu recently. Just a la carte. What's up with that? Somehow, I keep venturing here out of laziness. I'm still hoping to see some improvement...

Had mixed experiences here for lunch. Came on a Friday for lunch in June and the sushi/sashimi combo was delicious...fish was pretty fresh. Then I came back today (Wednesday in August) for lunch and the fish was not good!

Best Sushi by far, the best we have ever tasted, and we have tried several different sushi restaurants. But I must say, service was excellent. Sushi was very fresh, and If you are looking for well prepared sushi, you must try O fine japanese cuisine in Irvine if you don't you are missing out. We tried the cheese cake for desert , it was so light and delicious not to sweet just perfect. From beginning to the end, management and staff where friendly and very attentive to all our needs. Thank you for the great service and food, we will definitely be coming again.

I think it was a very good experience. Upon reflecting, I would say that the fish was of very good quality, properly aged and sliced, with no tough parts. There are special sushi items more likely creative fusion art food style that I've never had before. Chef recommends having sushi without soy source and it tastes awesome. The rice was very good, and in a good ratio to fish on my sushi. Presentation and service were excellent. Price for the quality and quantity was reasonable. I wouldn't say that the fish was better than any of the better quality sushi/sashimi places that I've been to. They could have been a little more generous with the servings. Finally I find the favorite place where I can enjoy the best sushi in Orange County, especially in Irvine.

We came here on a Friday night with reservations. Upon arrival on time, we were told that it would be another 15 min wait. I thought with reservations, you wouldn't have to wait? Luckily, they were able to seat us immediately after telling us about the wait time in a large booth area, probably reserved for a bigger party. We ordered a cold sake, four pieces of sushi (albacore, yellowtail, tuna, and eel), edamame, and tempura. The food was sufficient to fulfill us and not induce a food coma. The fish pieces were decent, not as fresh as I thought they were. The edamame and tempura were decent as well. Service on the other hand was quite horrible. We had a hard time getting service once they took our order and served the food. They hardly checked back on us. Even trying to wave them down was a bit of a challenge. Come back? Probably not as the place is quite expensive (our total bill came out to be approx $60/excluding tip).

I used to live in Irvine. Whenever I had a craving for seafood, I went to O Fine Japanese Cuisine. I love eating here because they have very high quality fish, delicious good-looking dishes, fancy interior and comfortable seating. I brought my families and friends there many times. Everyone enjoyed eating here, including my mom in law who is always very picky about food when she eats out. ;) A few of my friends said they did not step in the restaurant before for it looks like a very pricy restaurant, until I brought them in to eat. Indeed the restaurant has a high-end look, their price is very decent and reasonable though. Recently I went back to eat there again when I visited the area. I found they changed the decoration a bit, also they serve some new dishes that I've never seen before. I was happily trying them out. Normally I refuse to eat raw food but I ended up having some sushi and sealed scallop as well because they look so yummy. All the dishes I tried were very delicious and fresh just as what I expected! It is good to see the restaurant constantly puts a lot of efforts to impress and satisfy their customers. I guess that is why I always want to eat at O Fine Japanese Cuisine whenever I go back to Irvine. :)

Finally found a delicious, fresh, well managed sushi restaurant in Irvine! No need to go all the way to Costa Mesa anymore. First of all, the fish cuts and quality is exquisite. Secondly, the service and the management was very delightful. And to wrap it up, the vibe and the atmosphere is just soothing and relaxing with well drink list as well. Thank you!

DEAREST O Sushi, First of all, I really debated giving you one star. Your hours are terrible, and if you stayed open throughout the day I'd eat there twice a week instead of every 3 months. I'm very sorry, but I'm a high maintenance lover. Okay. I forgive you. I worked in sushi service as a bartender for a year at one of the best most innovative restaurants in the country. Totally gloating, but it's for your own good. YOU HAVE THE BEST SUSHI IN ORANGE COUNTY!!! Do the yellowtail sashimi in ponzu with jalapeño (called "new style" elsewhere) and a specialty roll. The sushi chefs are GREAT servers, the table service is... Adequate? It's a little pricey for sushi standards but it's on shady canyons doorstep so... Amendment! The sake selection is kinda blah. I hate having to order "the blue bottle" but every other time I've actually been selective they've been out of my choice. Probably 3 or 4 times this has happened. STILL THE BEST SUSHI IN ORANGE COUNTY!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love O Sushi. The service is always great, chefs are fun to talk to, and the establishment owner is a great guy too - oh yeah the food is great too ; ) I always come here whenever I'm in town for work and have a sushi craving. They are always experimenting with the menu and I love their new chef's menu for $35. It's an extremely great deal for what you get and I highly recommend it.

Came here a few weeks ago for the first time and it was great. Most sushi restaurants are hole in the walls but we were looking for something a little fancier for a birthday dinner and came across this place on Yelp. After reading some of the other reviews we decided to check it out and ended up loving it. Our waiter, Cody was really helpful and patient with us. It was probably some of the freshest sushi I've had. Loved the Super Poke Roll, the O Roll, and the Sashimi Roll. Also loved their Toro. The only con is that it was pricey but the food was amazing.

Excellent, fresh and great quality Sushi in a friendly environment. My family chooses O Fine Sushi for all of our special family gatherings. Although the prices are a bit higher than some other sushi places, it is well worth the price. Generous portions, excellent quality and the salmon, my favorite on everything, is always superb!!

Came here for my friend's surprise birthday party. The servers were very accommodating and very friendly. We came here with 20+ people and they helped us out with the birthday surprise. My girlfriend and I got the BBQ Eel roll and Albacore Tataki roll. Both were really good. The BBQ eel was really savoy. I love the crunch of the Tataki roll. We also got the server recommended Lemon Salmon Roll but we didn't really like it so they gave us free beer. +1 in my book. This place definitely did not disappoint. Fast, friendly, and attentive staffs with good food.

My friends and I were craving sushi, so we stopped by to check this place out. The atmosphere is really nice and interesting, and the staff were very pleasant! Incredibly clean and friendly! We came in for happy hour, but ended up getting a few items off of the normal menu. The sushi came out quickly, and they were all amazing. We got the Tiger Roll, Lemon roll, Crunch, and BBQ eel, and boy where they all delicious!! I don't even like spicy foods, but that Tiger roll was good. We also got tempura icecream. The green tea was to die for! The three of us split one and loved it. The staff were so sweet and attentive as well. I will definitely go back! and I recommend anyone else give it a try! The menu varies, there are some inexpensive items, and some that are a little pricey, but all pretty doable. Great place! Thank you very much! We will be back.

There were so many great combo choices, it was hard to make up my mind on what to eat for lunch! The owners must have sat down and thought of every combination possible. You can get a salad/roll combo, 1 item, 2 item, 3 item combo, or noodle/roll combos, and you can choose from sashimi bowls. I'm sure I'm missing more choices but I'll just tell you what I ended up with. I chose the poki bowl ($13.95) and it was a huge bowl of poki and rice. Maybe a little too much rice actually. The poki tasted really fresh and flavorful, and I appreciated how they werent stingy with the portion. My friends ordered salmon and chicken teriyaki which both looked pretty healthy and tasty. The presentation here is very clean and I loved the modern decor. I think overall it's a great stop in Irvine to have lunch and I would definitely consider coming back for more. Side note: Parking can be a major pain in the plaza during lunch time so come early if possible!

Went there and ordered the California roll with blue crab. Our chef looked to another to see if he should make it with blue or imitation. Made us uncomfortable. Also the chef's get wayyyyy too drunk, and make the food inconsistently . Went there last night for dinner and everything was spot on... UNTIL we received our baked lobster roll. It's basically a California roll topped with baked lobster, sautéed onion, mushrooms and sauce. Also, it comes with a lobster tail garnish. After finishing the lobster roll I turned over the tail and saw it was infested with dead ants!! I told the chefs who started laughing. I then proceeded to tell them it was absolutely disgusting that I eat food that was infested with insects. The manager, Sidney (only professional in the restaurant) was completely apologetic and comped our meal. He said that he would contact the exterminators and get the issue resolved. I told him for the 10th time that the chefs SHOULDN'T BE DRUNK on the clock. He said he has no control over that. Overall the dead ants and the drunk sushi chefs ruined our experience. On a high note the manager mentioned if these guys didn't get their shit together that he was ready to fire them and had a stack of resumes of candidates to replace them.

Since my boyfriend moved to Irvine from Oceanside. It's been difficult for us to find authentic sushi that is fresh and tasteful. This place is always our go to for Saturday night if we're too lazy to cook up a meal or if I'm craving for sushi. However, even though some nights the sushi isn't consistent, it is still one of our favorite place to get sushi that reminds us of home.

The sushi and service are averagely decent. I have been here for lunch a few times. Have had the rainbow roll and toro. The best meal I had was the lunch combination. Thus if you do go here, I do recommend trying out the combinations even when it says "Fine Sushi" in the restaurant name. Have tried the chicken teriyaki one and the chicken katsu. The white meat chicken teriyaki is a bit dry but overall decent. The chicken katsu is a little bit better.

Happy hour sucks balls. $5 for 5 pieces of steamed limp potstickers. The spicy tuna, salmon rolls, etc are so blaugh and at $7-8 dollars, it's kinda disgusting they charge more for these simpleton rolls during regular hours. Booze wise, they'll offer up a 20% discount on wine and sake. Their least expensive wine is Beringer ($5 wine at most gas stations) at $9. So during happy hour I get that for $7.20. Really?? They really rely on their trendy white furniture to make up for the inflated prices. Won't come back!

Their rolls , fish, and fresh uni are tasty however their cooked food is lacking in flavor. If you go during happy hour and order veggies or skewers they simply slap some garlic sauce on them, which aren't tasty. Their prices are high as well. They recently re did their happy hour menu and removed their CA roll and shrimp tempura roll, why????

I've been here about 5 times in the past two years but I think I'm done. I went here because I enjoyed the Laguna location and the Irivne location was ok too. I really like their Lobster Popcorn Roll and my wife likes the O Roll. I just went last week again and I must say that I really don't like their new menu. They took out all the combinations and they said everything is a la carte, but the prices didn't really go down. They don't include miso, rice, or salad with anything. And the menu is super complicated and unorganized. The categories don't make much sense. And the food is not the same as it was a year ago while the food prices have definitely gone up.

The sushi is excellent and the customer service is fantastic. It has a clean atmosphere and plenty of options, had the Japanese burrito and would definitely recommend to everyone. The lunch specials are definitely worth while so it's a benefit to go in during lunch time. It's not to expensive either and it's in an easy to find location with plenty of parking.

we were a group of 5 that ate there about 2 weeks ago. We ordered a little bit of everything.... We ordered the Salmon sushi, tuna sushi, yellow tail sushi, 2 different rolls and 3 Chilean sea bass the sushi was cut thin and was average....not great and not bad.... A solid 3+ stars. The Chilean sea bass was not good.... it was very bland and over cooked with a "rubbery" texture... Anyway, we then ordered dessert (mind you this was Friday night) and the waiter said they were out of nearly everything except for the ice cream and the tempura ice cream .... which we ordered one vanilla and one chocolate tempura ice cream The chocolate Tempura ice cream was frozen solid and had freezer burn.... The place was nearly empty by 8:30 pm (not a good sign for a Friday night) The bill came up and it was $285.00!!!! WAYYYYYY OVER PRICED ... I have eaten at some of the best places and this was way overpriced..... Matsuhizo in Los Angeles charges the same and you get way better quality sushi I am completely confused on where they get these exorbitant prices!! The service was good, but when asked how everything was, I said the Chilean sea bass wasn't good and the sushi cuts were sort of thin and I complained about the frozen solid chocolate ice cream tempura and the hostess then said..."Oh.... I will tell the manager" 3 minutes later she brought the bill over and left .... No manager....no waiter or anyone .....We paid the bill and left NOT RECOMMENED !!!!! Over priced and VERY uncaring towards customers!! COMPETELY confused at other ratings.... I am guessing most don't know good sushi or Chilean sea bass!! Wild fish for Sea Bass in Newport beach and 10 other places for better sushi!! PEOPLE............AVOID this place!

I came here for lunch because my co-workers suggested it, and was expecting the worse. But I was actually pleasantly surprised. We all had the Early Bird special posted on their blackboard outside and it was an absolute steal at $10 for the amount of food that we got. It said it was only for the first 10 customers, so luckily we snagged most of them. Rundown of the special: Striped bass and salmon sashimi with crispy garlic and chili oil -- nice and refreshing, the crispy garlic bits gave it some good texture. Garlic beef -- it was surprisingly tender and flavorful. Salmon roll and crunchy roll (4 pc each) - pretty standard, but adequately executed, not too much rice filler, which is a good thing. Agedashi tofu - thought it was fine, nothing wrong with it. Mini udon and salad - these two were probably the most disappointing out of all the food, but minor quibbles.

Overall I would give this 3.5 Stars Fresh fish Service ranges from snail speed to sonic Decor is modern and cozy Sit @ the sushi bar if you do go and you will not be disappointed. The only reason I give this place 3.5 stars is because the execution of rolls is inconsistent. They either WOW you or leave you wondering what the hell happened here...lol Cheers.

So here I was expecting some ordinary sushi place to grab dinner with friends and family after an event. We called to check how long the wait was for our party of 12 (with kids) before even deciding to go there. They said "no wait"! Take note, this was a Saturday night. We were there in a jiffy! We walked in to a blue-lit modern contemporary decorated restaurant. I'm a sucker for beautiful ambiances who cater to large parties so here I was already loving the vibe of the place. I was getting impressed by the minute because I like that they have this sectional area that can almost be semi-private if you want to have a party here. This was where we were seated and it was perfect since the other party next to our table was also a big group and had a separate table for all the kids. It gives me comfort knowing that if my toddler cries, they'll probably be okay with it. As far as their food goes, their menu offers some pretty good dinner combos which most of our party partook. The 9PC SASHIMI and GRILLED CHILEAN SEABASS COMBO ($21.95) was popular on our table that evening. It's served with a starter salad which was superb! The dressing obviously had some mayo, or lots of it. Whatever it is that they made it out of, I can eat salad all day everyday with their dressing. The sashimi came next and everything was beautifully cut and served very clean and fresh. I particularly liked the salmon the best on that platter. Finally, my plate of grilled Seabass came with steamed veggies on the side and a cup of white rice. I can't tell you enough how wonderful the fish tasted. The marinade they used was perfect for the Seabass which is already flavorful on its own to begin with. Nicely charred and flaky, I appreciate that it wasn't dry at all. My favorite here! yelp.com/biz_photos/o-fi… yelp.com/biz_photos/o-fi… I was able to have a taste of the CRUNCH RED DRAGON ROLL ($13.95) that my sister ordered. It was delicious! She, on the other hand claims it's the best crunchy roll she's had, ever. yelp.com/biz_photos/o-fi… We wanted some uni sushi for starters but they ran out of uni. Major bummer! So we ordered TORO SUSHI instead. For me, it didn't compensate for the uni that I wanted so bad and what sucks more is the fact that for two pieces, it cost us $15. A bit too pricey don't you think? yelp.com/biz_photos/o-fi… If you want dessert, skip the TEMPURA ICE CREAM ($5.50) and go straight for their GREEN TEA ICE CREAM ($3.50). The tempura batter isn't made well causing it to fall apart as soon as you cut it open. I've certainly had better. yelp.com/biz_photos/o-fi… Service here was decent. The waiters were really nice and seemed to care. My only complaint was, they should make themselves more available or visible to the semi-private area to make it easier for the patrons seated there to catch their attention. I caught myself getting up from our table quite a few times to flag someone down. Now, would I come back? Yes! And probably make this a venue for special occasions for our large group of friends with kids. It's a glamorous place in the Irvine bubble that serves good food and takes reservations. Better yet, it's located right next to a wine cellar for an after-dinner party.

I came for lunch, and ordered the ramen lunch special. So disappointing. The ramen noodles were overcooked and soft. The broth was watery and pretty tasteless. And the chashu pork was dry and tough. On the flip side, the sesame chicken was pretty decent, but not sure why they cut them up into bite sized pieces, like popcorn chicken. Service was okay. But the food was lacking.

I have been coming here for years and have always loved it. Life got busy and haven't been there in a couple of months. To my surprise, Koki, my favorite sushi chef is gone :((((( I still had a great meal but miss Koki's creative flair. Where ever you are Koki, know that you are missed!

I came here for a birthday dinner a few weeks ago. I've never had a complaint about the food here before but the service was a completely different story. I went in a group of six people which really doesn't seem that big but the waitress had a hard time keeping track of our orders. The food didn't come out all at once and they forgot about my bfs food. They didn't even realize that his dish hadn't been served until we complained. They didn't even apologize for it or even say much of anything at all. We waited around more and since the food still hadn't come out, we asked the manager about the status of his food. By this point, most of us were halfway through our food. He apologized immediately and comped his food which was really nice. The staff also didn't do anything for the birthday even though we had asked them to do something. Bummer.

What's up with the negative reviews? Honestly my experience at O Fine was BOMBDOTCOM! Food here is so fresh it melts in your mouth. And our server (I think his name was Cody) was super awesome. The decor inside was modern and hip. Perfect ambience for dates ;) Can't wait to come back for more toros!

THE AHI POKE ROLL! I dream about it! If you haven't tried pickled wasabi, this place has got a really good version. However, we didn't know they were going to charge us $2.50 and bring out a large serving of it. We only used a tiny bit with our sushi and ended up eating some of it by itself at the end - exciting and delicious! Everything was very fresh. Yellowtail sashimi was yummy, caterpillar roll was a good, milder counterbalance to the explosive ahi poke flavors. Amazing dinner. Yes it's on the pricy side but you get what you pay for.

So myself and 3 others came here for a double date. Service was extremely stand offish and rude from the get go. By the time we were seated and looking at the horrible menu we knew things were not looking good. After about 10-15 minutes, our server came and we decided it was not a good idea to eat here. Tiny, overpriced, band un-interesting menu.

*** I have NOT been back here yet**** But the owner commented on my review so I thought I would give some feedback and see if you yelpers see what I see or if they improve on it the next time you/I go there. Here are the things I think need improving.... BUT hey, it is up to you to change it. 1. The service- the ladies can be more friendly, it will not hurt. Trust me. You don't have to hire a japanese person for a japanese restaurant but you do need to hire someone friendly. 2. The menu- specifically the rib eye steak teriyaki or garlic teriyaki.... that item was so confusing that the waitress had to ask us five times to confirm the orders. It is just TERIYAKI WITH GARLIC OR WITHOUT GARLIC. She made it sound like it was two completely dish... gosh, the only difference was the fried garlic on top. 3. The seabass... this DEFINITELY needs to be bigger, at minimum the double of size we had. The one we had was about a size of 3 quarter coins making a triangle. She did bring more seabass later so that was not too bad. But still, it needs to be decent size especially if I am paying $2 extra bucks for it. 4. The lamb chop.... I don't know if the lambs are super skinny these days or what but one little lamb chop... just ONE... if there were two piece then the tiny lamb chop might be okay but only one piece and it is a skinny one too. 5. The bowl of rice..... seriously, ugliest bowl of rice. Put that darn rice in a bowl or a shaper first before you put in the bowl to the customers... it is easy and makes it look a lot better. My bowl of rice looks like hamburger meat... come on- it is supposed to be a fine dining japanese restaurant! And japanese food is supposed to look as pretty as it tastes and tastes even better than it looks! 6. Lastly, the tables.... those tables look like the most cheapass, common tables EVER. I only notice it because the entire decor of the restaurant is really pretty and the chairs....damn those chairs fit me perfectly making me feel like a baby. Then BOOM!! , ugly ugly UGLY tables. Come on! I will be back one day and I hope some improvements are made when I am back. But again, not my restaurant so take the advice or leave it.

Prices are a little high but that's to be expected in Irvine. Really like the variety of rolls and service was excellent.

I went here today and the waitress was great at keeping our drinks filled and stomachs full. We had plenty of sushi varying from tuna, salmon, mackerel, halibut, uni, kanpachi, and beef. It was all very high quality and delicious. The food was great. The sake selection was good as well and it tasted great. We had about 5 bottles of sake. In the end, a good experience.

Food is decent, environment is great, but the price is quite high for American sushi. I had much better food with lower price in the area. Pick a different restaurant if you are craving for sushi, there are plenty of choices.

This place is amazing. It went in and ordered food was ready in less than 5 minuets. I went with my bud and the second we sat down we felt like kings. They served us so well that we wanted to just sit after we were full. This place is absolutely fantastic for all ages. Young and old. Next time I'm gonna bring my baby brother. He loves these types of places where you just sit look at the atmosphere. The color in the restaurant brings out a calm and cooling feel to it. Best place in town!

Not exactly sure what people love about this place. The interior is very modern and appealing, but the food was ehh. I ordered the baked lobster roll, which I was really excited about (I mean, doesn't it sound delicious?). Ends up they just placed cooked lobster along with sauce on top of very simple california rolls.. which was disappointing. I was expecting the actual roll to be special. I felt... betrayed. Also ordered the dinner combo and had the sea bass with miso. It was pretty good, but my mom can make better. Basically, food wasn't bad. But not worth the money.

If you want good food in SD, you have to go to areas in town where parking is an absolute nightmare. Luckily, this lunch with my best friend and her fiance was in Irvine and parking was as smooth as gelato. So my day was already off to a good start. The restaurant is nicely decorated and well kept. Service was friendly and quick. We ended up ordering the following: Lunch Special Bento Box - you can choose between 2 items. The fiance went for the chicken katsu and yakiniku beef. Beef was a bit chewy rather than tender. Chicken was good though. Comes with miso, rice, and salad. Seafood curry - the star of the show (my dish!). The curry was flavorful and spicy but not overwhelmingly so and this is coming from the girl who can't handle spicy. Came with scallops, shrimp, squid, oysters, and mussel. I love a warm plate of curry with white rice. I'm still looking for seafood curry like this in SD. No luck yet. I would drive all the way to Irvine again just for this. My best friend ordered the Rainbow Spider Roll. She has good tastes because this roll was really tasty! Rainbow roll + spider roll in one... you can't beat that. Overall, it was a great experience. I'll be back!

I came here with my boyfriend for a date a couple weeks ago, and it was horrible.First of all, the menu is really confusing. It doesnt say whats on the dishes or whether or not it comes with anything. I ended up ordering the O Roll and it was pretty good, but seriously overpriced ($16 for 6 pcs?!). I also got the Rainbow roll and chicken teriyaki. The rainbow roll was mediocre but the teriyaki chicken was just horrible. $13 for plain chicken and tiny bit of sauce on the side. I got so disappointed I had to return the teriyaki chicken. Our waitress was confused the entire time. She's inexperienced and didn't know anything about the menu. I asked her for an appetizer that wasn't fried and she told me edamame? Seriously, I can make that at home. The decor was nice but the desks are old and frayed. Overall: Mediocre decorations, horrible service, and seriously overpriced food. I would not come back.

Taiko was too crowded so we tried this place instead. Albacore tartare - four small pieces of albacore and some greens? Yellowtail sashimi - four small pieces of yellowtail? And a couple of "so-so" rolls, including their spider roll. Average sushi, small portions, overpriced. Plus a mixed sashimi plate that had all kinds of dressed-up fish for a ridiculous price, considering you basically got eight small pieces of fish. My take: if you've got great fish, you don't have to put extra "stuff" on it. That's not sashimi anyway; it's something else, and it should be called something else. Sorry, but there are several excellent sushi bars in Orange County; this is not one of them.

I go to this place every time I am in the area. The quality of the fish is excellent. The service is excellent. The portions are very good and appropriate for the quality and price. I am not a beer girl but the Sapporo on tap is a must have.

So I've picked up food to go from this location several times now (I live nearby, so I'm there even more often now ;) and every time I've hit the place up, I've been very satisfied with everything. Their staff is very friendly and accommodating (my 1st trip their, I was asking for something they clearly state is not available for takeout, but they worked with me to get the equivalent of the order just to help me out). I've tried a variety of dishes from here, and the food is consistently top notch, with everything being flavorful and delicious. The one thing which threw me off, was how different their lunch menu is vs the dinner menu (they have very specific menus for both time periods). And the options can be a bit different from one to the other. All in all, I very much dig this place and will be stopping by often

WOW, This Place is AMAZING, and the SUSHI TOO! I have been eating sushi for almost 20 years and have eaten at some of the so called top Sushi Restaurants around, Nobu, barMASA, TAO, and so on. O Fine Japanese Cuisine in Irvine has set a new standard with not only the quality of the fish, buy also the creativity and presentation of the dishes, the staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly. Some of my favorites are the Chilean Seabass, Kobe Beef Carpaccio, Wasabi Lamb Rack, Baked Lobster Roll, Rainbow Roll, and my favorite the O Roll. The quality of the sushi is their highest priority, and the ambiance is great for any occasion, date night, birthday parties, private patties and more. If you love quality sushi, in a high-class setting and you are local to Southern California you need to stop by and check this place out!

Considering that sushi places are so common nowadays, it is hard to find an especially good one that sticks out above the rest. I was in town visiting a friend who insisted on taking me to O fine Japanese Cuisine of all places. Keep in mind I have recently moved and my apartment complex is literally attached to a plaza with a sushi place. One that is walking distance which makes for lots of drinking and sushi eating just a hop, skip and a jump away. Begrudgingly I agreed even though I had eaten sushi already this week, but I was happy that I did. To start the decor was pleasant, very modern and the layout was nice. We were seated right away even though it was a busy night with no reservations, but the hostess was very accommodating. I have my regular that I always have to order when I go eat sushi which I'm sure everyone does which includes, yellowtail (belly cut), salmon, shrimp, octopus, tuna, and albacore. Everything came out in a timely matter, and best of all tasted fresh. Most memorable though was the uni, which I am a huge fan of. Creamy in texture, silky smooth and delicious. I love uni and this place did not disappoint, especially when you see how they prepare it and know that it is indeed live which is as fresh as it can be. My friend ordered a roll which I typically am not fond of, but the seared yellowtail roll I think it was called was also delicious. We skipped dessert, had a couple more drinks. We never felt rushed, and our server whose name I think was Phillip, funny asian dude with spiky hair was also awesome. He was attentive without being intrusive, checked up on us just enough without ever being bothersome. I will definitely be going back, and also bringing my friends here. My one regret is that I didn't try the toro this time, but now I have something to look forward to!

Stopped by here on my way home from work. The decor was chic/ modern and clean. When I arrived I was greeted by Sydney, one of the managers. He was friendly and informative and shared some of their specialties. I was fortunate to arrive during "Happy Hour." I enjoyed a large Asahi beer I believe was $4 making it very reasonable. The "Uni" sushi was $7. The "Sea Trout" sushi (going to enjoy it next time as sashimi) and "Uni" was superior quality and taste. They decoupled the Uni from the shell right there!. You can't get any fresher than that. The baked salmon karma was very good as was the sake sashimi. All and all very good quality, services and ambiance. I definitely will drop in again!

  • Joseph G.

I was disappointed, given the reviews. The service was good, even if it was rushed and frenzied. (The staff was rushing about and shouting the whole time we were there). The sushi was fresh, but plainly presented. The price was high and portions tiny. Square hand rolls?? Maizuru is twice as good and a lot cheaper, a whole 1 mile away.

Was here last night with family and they highly spoke about it given than they've been going to this restaurant a lot. True enough, they have excellent service and their food is highly creative. If you want the option of traditional Japanese or fusion, you may ask the manager and they'd be happy to a accommodate you. Their Uni, and sashimi platter--toro and Kampachi in particular were fresh and could literally melt-in-your-mouth. Their gyoza was good too.

I have been here a couple times and every time I have a delicious meal with great service (thank you, Julie, for the wonderful service tonight)! The interior of the restaurant is very nice as well. The ribeye teriyaki steak is very tender and the Chilean sea bass was also yummy! I definitely recommend coming in for lunch be cause the meals usually come with miso soup and rice. Only dropped a star because it can a little pricey (during dinner, rice is not included and is an extra $2). Overall, I have always had an enjoyable experience here and would eat here again!

Went to O Fine Japanese Cuisine after checking out Yelp for a recommendation in Irvine. Tucked away in this little strip mall, it was a perfect place for some good friends, a little sake and LOTS of sushi. We made a reservation on Open Table, arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately in their swanky dining room. The place is truly gorgeous; blue mood lighting (think Virgin America) glows amidst sleek furnishing and contemporary Art. And the food.........fresh, delicious, special and made with love:) Saturday is 20% off Sushi and Alcohol day, so between the ambiance, food and good company, we couldn't have picked a better place. I will mention that even with the discount, this place feels a little pricy, but for the overall experience, Yay! I'm a fan. Yelp 100 Challenge: 70/100

Wow, the sushi here is amazing! We tried the omakase (set a & b) and the "sexy laguna" and it was delicious! You get a ton of food and it's high quality. Our server, Val, was very knowledgeable and helpful, so don't feel shy in asking anyone for recommendations. Definitely recommend this place! If you never tried omakase, this is the place to start

I came here because this place has a 4/5 star average rating on yelp and I love sushi. I couldn't have been MORE disappointed with this restaurant! Service was horrendous and the food was worse. We ordered the edamame to start, and it was hard as a rock, cold, and barely salted. First fail. Then came the lobster tempura roll. The lobster was cold, the tempura portion was literally about 1/3" thick, not light and fluffy as tempura should be. I picked a piece of lobster out of it and it was grossly overcooked. Second fail. Out came the waitress and we sent the lobster back stating that we didn't like it for the reasons stated above, and she removed it from our table. She then brought out the baked scallop roll and it was disgusting. It looked like the sushi chef made the sushi then brought it out into the middle of the street and had someone run it over. I'm not joking! It was mushy and had black flecks all over the top of it. When the waitress came out with the poki roll, we felt compelled to say something about our disappointment with the meal thus far. We said that we aren't ones to complain, but we were not happy with the food quality, preparation, and resulting bad taste of the food. You know what she said? "Well I can't do anything if you don't like our food." WHAT!? Her response was confounding. We didn't eat both of the rolls which we sent back, so we were not charged for them. Even so, I am appalled. Literally appalled. A manager should have come out, but there was no manager in sight. instead, the waitress who seemingly had no experience with customer service had the gall to say something as absurd as what she said. I will never come back here and I will strongly suggest to everyone I know never to set foot in here.

The ambiance here is really good. It's dim and has modern decoration. I love the music that they play here. The waiters and waitresses are in their 20s to 30s. I didn't eat anything here that blew me away. However, I did enjoy the uni and the orange bear dessert. The staff was tolerable even though my friends were loud and drunk. They didn't rush us out of the restaurant, either. I had to remove one star because I ordered the omakase and did not receive the correct fish that was listed in the menu.

  • Charlie H.

Fresh food and nice staff. I do like the Laguna location much better but this is larger and good for groups. I emjoyed the O roll, some spicy edamame (yum) and mochi, all very good. Can't wait to go back.

  • Julie Z.

the ambiance is great--perfect for a date night. I've also been here with parties of 10 or more; they gave us the more private room in the back. a lot of thought goes into the presentation of the food. the Izakaya is not only presented well, but also made with finesse. freshness of the food is a given; that's why I enjoy their sushi and sashimi (more than other places). comparatively, this sushi restaurant is one of the best in Irvine. it's worth trying out and seeing for yourself.

  • Frank C.

Irvine severely lacks sushi joints but having O just 10 minutes away from where I live is a life saver. If you're looking for a crowded rock-n-sushi place with black lights, this isn't the place for you. This place has class. The interior is very clean and modern with comfortable seating. They use clean, white quartz dining tables and sleek LED accent lighting throughout. Just from entering the restaurant you can tell the management pays extra special attention to detail and quality. You really feel like you're walking into an expensive establishment but without the $$$$ to $$$$$ prices on the menu. Reviewers who are knockin' this place and complaining about the prices and how the lunch special is "not worth the money" -- you either eat too much or don't have a clue what and where you're eating. You know this restaurant is located in Irvine, right? You know the ground that the restaurant resides on cost a lot more to lease than say in San Gabriel Valley? Shady Canyon is a 5 minute drive away, you know those homes up there range from $4M - $10M? O's prices are a freakin' bargain! I'm by no means rich but at least I know how to put things into perspective. If you're looking to over stuff your belly with mediocre sushi because you just "want your money's worth" then just go to a Todai because that's where the ghetto people belong anyway. Enough ranting and on to the service and food. The wait staff, very friendly and attentive. My glass was never empty. Empty plates never cluttered our table for more than 60 seconds. The best thing about O is the selection of sushi they have without sacrificing on the quality. I'm typically a nigiri sushi eater and like the simple things like uni, otoro, amaebi, sake, and ikura -- O nails all of those with flying colors. Fresh as can be. They even give you a choice of frying the amaebi head or to cook it in miso soup. Only the legit places do this. But sometimes, you just gotta have that fusion/creative roll -- O nails this too! They have something for everyone. If you haven't tried the monk fish liver, do it! It's so creamy and delicious with just the right amount of ponzu. Also, their absolute best item is... drum roll.... (no, it's not called a drum roll) their soft shell crab hand roll. It is the heartiest soft shell crab roll I've ever had. Most places will serve some sorry excuse for a tarantula leg with a bunch of rice and try to pass it off as a soft shell crab hand roll. Not O. These guys put in a piece of crab the size of a poodle with huge slices of fresh avocado and just the right amount of rice, you will be smiling and shaking your head out of pure satisfaction with every bite of that thing. Seriously, if you want to top off your meal and make sure you leave happy and full, make this your closer. Stop reading and go get some O, already. O for Oishi. O for Orgasmic.

I've been here about 15 times and I continue to love the food every time! Sydney is one of the lead servers and co-owners I believe. He always offers great service! To all the people out there that is given anything but four or five star reviews for this place, you just don't know what you're talking about when it comes to good sushi for a good price. The fish is always fresh and they have great specials. We have the how Macci every time we come and it's fantastic over and over again! Tonight we sat at the sushi bar and Alan (the head sushi chef at the time) made us a sliced orange with plum wine drizzled on top for dessert, and they threw that in for free! Come check this place out.

I have to say, I do really like the ambiance. Very cool, welcoming, and fun. I like that the place isn't dimly lit like a lot of restaurants. I know, what a silly point to bring up, but I hate dimly lit restaurants. It's well lit to not tire your eyes, and the use of the blue lighting is great because it gives that cool dim light feeling people like, without actually being dull. Okay, now to the important part, the food. Unfortunately, it was fairly mundane. I had their sashimi and tempura plate. The sashimi was very poorly sliced. Come on folks, it's not just about having the raw fish. How it's sliced and presented plays a huge role in the experience. Most of the tempura was good, but some of it was quite soggy. I suspect the temperature of the frying oil was fairly low. Soggy food is never pleasant. The service was adequate, but nothing to write home about. I will be happy to pass by O Fine Japanese Cuisine any day, and go for someplace else.

First timer, did the whole Yelp thing looking for a place to eat with a couple of friends. Got there for happy hour so ordered a beer ($3), they have a good number of rolls and other appetizers for happy hour. I ordered the yellowtail roll and my buddies ordered various things that had garlic as well as what the waiter suggested. They go a little overboard with the garlic from what my friends said but I'm not really into it so did not try it. The weird thing for me was the yellowtail roll had avocado, I can tell you they do not go well together. Rather have the green onions. For my main dish, the waiter said that I should try the sushi plate that is a $50 value for $30. I did. It was okay but for the money, I prefer going to Sushi Gen in Little Tokyo.

  • JP O.

First time at O sushi, I was greeted immediately at the door. The sushi chef was extra friendly and presentation my order of yellowtail belly was well executed. I'd like to add that my server Shynna is super cute and very attentive. I had a great experience, enjoyed my meal, and will come back!

  • Anna S.

3.5 Ya know, the food is on par. Ain't the best sushi I've had, but fulfills the typical sushi craving. The ambiance gives this place a fine dining feel. It's clean and modern. Take advantage of that 20% off appetizers and alcohol...makes it more appealing. Both the Crunch Red Dragon Roll and Caterpillar Roll were decent. Tempura was good. The chicken yakitori--not a fan. Nothing really memorable about this place. I'd be back if someone suggested it or for a celebration. Although I didn't try any of the alcohol, they provide a great list with descriptions of the different types of sake. Fun to peruse.

  • Nicki K.

My FAVORITE sushi place! The fish is so fresh. This beats RA and Kabuki any day. Their rolls are little pricey during normal hours, but the happy hour deal is great! The service is also excellent. The managers and employees are all very nice. My friend and I went here for happy hour two days ago, and the manager was so nice and personable. We had three rolls and sake for only $20 each. The Crunch Red Dragon roll is the best roll I've ever had. You have to try it!

My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner during happy hour. It was not good. It was overpriced... at happy hour. I would never ever go here at their regular prices. And, I ate the worst calamari I have ever had. What restaurant screws up calamari? It was chewy and the batter tasted like fried flour. You could taste the flour in it. The sushi rolls we got were meh, and just not worth it. The decor of this place is amazing, and the service wasn't bad... but I would much rather have good food in a hole in the wall dump than go to this place.

This place is one of my favorite fusion sushi place. The decor is white and blue and looks romantic but clubby vibe. The servers are great and the fish is pretty fresh. Japanese burrito is my favorite. But it's a but pricey here.

We are regular customers, visiting this place every week for the last three years. The food is delicious, and my wife and I enjoyed almost everything we ordered...... Until this evening (07/29/2014). I ordered uni (see urchin) sushi. The listed price was $ 9.99. I was surprised when realized that we were charged $ 29.99 for two orders! When I asked our server, who until this time was very pleasant and personal, she told us, without any apology, that this was "premium" uni. Such item did not exist in the menu and I did not ordered it. Anyway, I swallow that, and dully paid my bill, but did not appreciate the attitude and disrespect demonstrated by our server at the time we were leaving the restaurant. Too bad for this young lady! We will think twice before visiting this place again.

Great food but service was substandard. I was here during happy hour and I had to flag the bus boy down to order a second happy hour sake. Later my friend wanted a happy hour priced wine but there was no one to be found. We asked the manager to make an allowance and it was a no go!

This place still aims to please me. I sat at the sushi bar with my daughter and Allan the sushi chef was great. I always enjoy sitting at the sushi bar especially if the chef is "cool". The sushi as I've said before isn't too notch authentic Japanese cuisine but the quality and creativity of dishes are satisfying.

Been here a few times with reps. It's good for lunch since it's close to the hospital. The sushi is decent but not great. We go since it's convenient, but I would not make a trip out of it. They have Sapporo on tap.

Talk about treating potential new hires like crap and giving false hope. I went in for an interview since I received a phone call to come in. Was hired and when I called to ask when should I come in to fill out the paper work? Manager says oh I tried to call you and you didn't answer. B.S. You never did and you lied to me saying you filled the position. Needless to say I won't be recommending this place to friends and family. Don't lie to me and give me false hope. You're food is overpriced and management needs to be fixed. You don't deserve a star at all! You lie to your customers and potential new employees it's recipe for disaster. :(

I won't be going back the food was only... ok!!! I sat at the bar by myself I didn't order a drink and they weren't happy about that and they made me feel like I couldn't afford to eat there!!! If they only knew!!! I ordered a couple of rolls and would of had more but the sushi chef was eating most everything in site, a big turn off,,,, eating with his hand and then making my roll... I had to go!!!

Best sushi and sashimi I have had in a long time. Get the fresh uni and toro. Fantastic. Also the monkfish liver and truffled halibut were top notch.

Service was alright considered there were not many people in the restaurant. It look pretty nice and clean. However, it is not authentic. It is better to go with the rolls than the fish. -Ankimo ($16) : pretty decent quality. We got 2 pieces. -Yellowtail ($14) : average quality. 5 pieces -Sweet shrimp ($14) : bad!!!!!! very fishy and small -Miso Seabass ($15) : good and buttery but a little salty -Caterpillar roll ($13) : good portion and nice presentation. -Salmon crunch roll ($13) : pretty good. the shrimp tempura was not crunchy. It was over $100 for dinner for 2. I could of gone somewhere else and get better food.

Great Japanese burrito, the sauce was a little on the sweet side, but worked with the food. Good lunch combo

Still my favorite sushi spot in OC. If you're feeling adventurous, I suggest sitting at the bar with Koki or Paul. They are both excellent sushi chefs who remember my favorites and are always able to surprise me with something fresh and delicious. I usually ask them to "make whatever" with whichever fish is good; as a roll or as sushi. Last week we had Japanese Uni that was to die for! I wasn't a fan of Uni until recently but this stuff was definitely fresh and left me wanting MORE. I trust these guys to lead me through an excellent meal... ....now if only the owner was more trustworthy! I've been a regular patron of this restaurant since 2011. I've seen him on many occasions and he always seems to be fumbling around with the plates and asking questions about the most basic fish (...Tuna, yellowtail, etc). On our past visit, I literally heard him tell one of the chefs to "hurry up" when making a dish. Excuse me????? I'm not sure I'd ever ask anyone holding a knife that sharp to hurry up! Point is, the chefs are great, the waitstaff is great, but the owner is..... not so great. I've worked in food service for 7 years. The last thing anyone wants to be told is to hurry up when you are preparing food that takes precision and a sense of artistry. ++ We're glad Paul is back! We love Koki and Raphael too!! -- Owner, if you're going to be an asshole to your chefs, don't you dare let your patrons hear it. Shame on you.

Ive been wanting to write this review for a long time. Went here to work as a server during the summer. This is the worst job i ever had. The first day i started, i noticed that all the servers were young and arrogant and thought they owned the place. Despite the fact that i had worked at japanese restraunts for 5 years, it seemed like the workers were treating me as if i were incompetant. I noticed the female servers would gossip behind your back. I started the job with low confidence and it didnt help that the restraunt was large and sometimes they would understaff workers. I remember one day i would have to run around the restraunt and it was completly busy. There was only one other server there. Noone notices the hardwork the workers go through. I remember there was a mistake in the restraunt and all the workers immediately blamed me with no proof that i made the mistake. There was another incident where the manager was telling me i should become christian because i seemed lost. I think there is poor management in this restraunt and not poor service. Any complaints on service is are do overly complicated pos system menu. I used to be a customer here because i live close by, now i rather eat at other places i know for sure the fish will always be fresh. Sometimes customers would throw away full plates of sashimi that they barely touched. I would try the fish and spit it out in the trash can. rotten fishy taste .

Called ahead to order some Crunchy rolls and California rolls for a Super Bowl party, they said ready in 15 minutes and they were ready! Fresh, tasty, well done. Cost was reasonable enough, especially for its location in Irvine. Would've cost pretty much the same if we bought rolls from the grocery store, and you get more and taste much better.

Nice decor inside. Sushi was fresh on Saturday night. One of the better sushi spots around. The portion of the sushi isn't very large as some other places I've been to but the quality is good. I will return here. And no I don't eat rolls with tonns of sauce on it. I'm a sushi ans sashimi person. I know good quality when I taste it.

Huge portions, Cheap prices, fresh products.. I am a fan! Get the Ankimo or any of the sashimi style dishes! The only thing that sucks is the service.. but who the hell comes on yelp and gives a restaurant a bad rating because of service?! If you are one of those, quit doin that. rate the food!!! YELP IS FOR FOODIES, not FEELINGS!!! ;)

This place is a little pricey, but it's worth it. It's quality sushi and an awesome ambiance. The chefs and servers are prompt and friendly. The sushi doesn't crumble and fall apart, which you often see at the $2 sushi places. There are flat screen tv's throughout the place. I'd like to come back to this place to watch a game or get drinks with friends. It's definitely a hidden gem in a quiet little plaza.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant. My favorite dishes are monk fish liver, roasted lamb chops. I also like to try their chef special set meal. Although it is a little pricy, but you have a chance to try all their best dishes. It is easy to make reservations. Every time I brought my friends here, they were impressed. I highly recommend this restaurant.

My favorite sushi restaurant thus far! The fish is fresh and the food tastes just as good as it looks. Coming from someone who's lived in Japan for a while, I would say the sushi here is comparable to the ones over there. There are also many unique sushi rolls that you would not find anywhere else and they are definitely worth the try. The staff are very friendly and attentive. They are always there if you ever need anything and they seemed to be knowledgeable about the menu. The modern-chic setting is a plus! If you are ever craving sushi, this is the place to go!

The food is good. I had the Omakase, which loosely translates to "Chef's Choice". But they have two set Omakase, which is kinda contradictory. But everything was good. My lamb was overcooked, but everything else was good. One big measuring stick for me is Tempura. If you don't have good tempura, I outta there. They have good tempura. One thing that bothered me though was that they rushed us to turn our table. They brought some food out first, while others at the table had to wait for theirs. Then as soon as the last piece of food was 2 inches off the plate they were there to scrape it away and plop down the check. Lastly it is on the higher side for $$, more like $$$. Good enough for me to go back, just not too often.

The food is still fresh and consistent. The only reason we come these days is for the sushi chef Koki as he is an awesome chef. Very knowledgeable and also funny. Creative as well. Everythinh else has gradually gotten worse. Each time we come here there are always new staff and the service has become inconsistent. Why the high staff turnover? The restaurant has lost its charm. The menu has changed as well meaning no more entrees selection and mostly a la carte. If not for my wife liking this place so much because of the chef, we would take our business elsewhere.

I was welcomed as soon as I arrived. Rafael, the sushi chef made some excellent suggestions. I got the crunchy salmon maki and an appetizer of mackerel with truffle oil. Amazing... Until the lights went out! The area suffered a lengthy power outage but that didn't prevent me from enjoying the sushi. The staff handled the unusual situation very well, never forgetting about their patrons. Next time in Irvine, I'll be back!

I have been here once for lunch and definitely made a mental note to come back! I noticed there was a big lunch rush so the reviews must be right. Great for lunch but I could also see this restaurant as a great date night dinner spot too! I feel like the dishes are a little pricey unless you are ordering from one the lunch specials. I had the Lobster Roll based on some of the Yelp reviews and it was a hit! Tasty, fresh and delectable!

This place was OK but not amazing for the money. We arrived at 7:15 PM on a weekday and there was no wait. The restaurant was moderately busy, with about 1/3 of the tables filled. We were sat quickly. Pros: - Food tasted very fresh - the Hawaiian roll had some nice fresh tuna on top with a perfect texture. - Free hot green tea - Service was reasonably friendly, and drinks were refilled consistently. Cons: - Portions are smaller than I would like for the price - even the pickled ginger was scarce. The $7 vegetable roll was pretty tiny compared to what I've come to expect from their competitors. - Their website is out of date, and lists some dishes I wanted to try (the Hawaiian Tempura roll, for instance) that the "live" menu has since eliminated, and they would not make it since it's no longer on the menu. Overall, two sushi rolls, one (small) veggie roll and a small garden salad came to $48 after tip. A little pricey for what we got in my opinion. I probably won't be back.

I have been to several sushi places in irvine and I think I found this place to be my regular sushi place from now on. I usually go to Taiko and I love Taiko but O is on point. First off the decor is awesome and second you can't beat the lunch combinations and the freshness of the sushi. For those that say it's expensive sushi and they could go elsewhere then go because those are usually all you could eat sushi bars that have no quality in their sashimi and rolls. We got the Poki roll and the rainbow roll along with the 19 piece sashimi platter and I have to say I haven't tasted quality like this other than Taiko. I will have to say it's a tad above taiko because I am giving it 5 stars. Now that I found this place and unlike Taiko which takes no reservations the wait wasn't that bad. Good stuff I will definitely come back.

Went for lunch with a few co-workers and I was amazed by how gargantuan the portions were. My Udon was litterally served in a serving-sized bowl with a ladel! The bento boxes were nothing to sneeze at either! The broth in the Udon was not very traditional, and there were skimpy pieces of fish cake, but it was still tasty and served with a very salty miso (why you would serve soup with soup, I can't tell).

I came here on Sunday with my friends. We arrived at the restaurant pretty early and were seated automatically ( they open at 5). We ordered monkfish liver ( ankimo ) to share. I didn't know that monkfish was overfished, or else I wouldn't have ordered this dish. Too bad because it is delicious!!!! It has the same consistency as foie gras but with a slightly fishy flavor. I ordered the tuna poki roll & rainbow spider roll. My waitress misheard my tuna poki roll for a tuna poki bowl... I didn't bother to correct her since it wasn't a big deal to me. I think the tuna poki bowl probably comes with more stuff anyways. Tuna poki bowl came with avocado and crab meat as well. The rainbow spider roll was delicious and huge. My friends ordered beef sukiyaki & the dinner special of teriyaki steak. The beef sukiyaki didn't come with that much meat, however the flavor was very good. We had a 20% off coupon, I think that this place would be a little pricey without the coupon, but they have ankimo !!! Most Japanese places I have been to do not have ankimo.

I really want to like this place, a lot. I do think some of their dishes are creative and delicious and that's the only reason why we keep going back there. Their biggest problem is their staff--waiters, waitresses and some of their sushi chefs. None of them seem to get along. Of the many times we have gone to the place, they have messed up our orders about 80%. It has gotten to be a running joke in my family to see who's order they are going to mess up this time. Bad. Next time you go, do watch the interactions between the waiters and their chefs; it's a bad dinner theater.

This place is amazing! We just moved here from San Diego and the sushi is fresh, creative and they have wonderful side dishes to compliment the experience. Some of the finest sushi I've ever had! I was most impressed with the staff and how eager they were to make sure our experience was perfect. Sake recommendation was on target with the meal, just perfect! The person below (IvanK) who said the service was terrible because of the whole uni mistake for 9.99 blah blah 29.99 is just bitter and should remove that comment! This place is eager to make sure everyone is happy!

Party of 3 for a mid-week, belated bday dinner and we had a blast! I guess we'd pretty much have a blast anywhere, especially with a bottle of wine! Yes, we were the loud group, yapping and laughing with little regard for others around!! Don't hate cuz you weren't having as much fun! I noticed a few stares in the 3.5 hours we were there, and I could've sworn a chic at another table shooshed us! Whatever! We just got louder cuz we laugh in the face of shooshers!!! It'd be different if this was an intimate, quiet place but its setup, decor and echoing walls just spelled PARTY!! It felt like we were in Vegas, love the electric blue lights! Dazzle, dazzle, baby!! They need to turn up the music! We shared an appetizer, a few rolls and green tea/strawberry mochi ice cream. The one item that totally stood out was the spicy tuna on crackers, sorry, couldn't remember the name. Talk about creativity! Never seen anything like it before and it was so yummy!! That's a definite must on future visits! The strawberry mochi ice cream was highly recommended and so glad we tried it! Love green tea mochi but the strawberry mochi here was very yummy!! Service was friendly; however, I think they could've been more attentive. In their defense, I'm sure they were prolly afraid to interrupt 3 loud, buzzed ladies deep in conversation! I'll definitely be back! You guys are COOL!!!

I had an absolutely amazing experience. I'm not tempted to write reviews often but they deserve five stars. Every single thing in my face was fresh and delicious. My favorite part would have to be the people. The sushi chef, the waiters, even the host were all so unbelievably nice, fun and just cool as f*#@k! The thing that made them stand out was their undivided attention. They were able to cater to our every whim and their recommendations exceeded our expectations. Don't be an idiot in irvine that doesn't go here. Cheers!

Great, fresh sushi. Some of the better rolls I have had in a while. The poke role is a must get. Priced pretty well for sushi restaurants and the wait staff is really nice and attentive.

I had lunch here a couple more times after my last review. I'm not sure what happened, but the salmon/tuna poke didn't taste as good as before. They also reduced the amount of sashimi on the dish. That's too bad because they did have one of the best.

A couple friends and I came to this restaurant for our homecoming dinner. First impressions when I walked in: the decor was very modern and the lighting was very dim. Also, the interior was larger than most Japanese restaurants I've been to. They were very accommodating of our ten-person group (just make sure you make a reservation), and the servers were super friendly! The food was delicious, and I loved how they provided a mountain of wasabi for us. My only issue was the price of the sushi (total bill was about $20 per person), but that's expected, as the restaurant is in Irvine. I suggest trying the Crunch Lobster Roll or their Sexy Laguna Roll; you won't be disappointed! In addition, if you come in on your birthday, they'll provide you with a complimentary bowl of green tea ice cream and sing you Happy Birthday. Overall, this Japanese restaurant is as good a place as any. If I'm ever in the area craving sushi, I'll be sure to stop on by.

My favorite sushi restaurant in Irvine, and not just because it's closest to my home. The sushi here is always good quality. The toro is always good. The sushi chefs all have nice, friendly personalities. Maybe if I came here during a lunch break and it was crowded and I was in a hurry and the service was slow and I freaked out and yelped it to the world....but no I'm never in a rush here, the service people are always attentive to my needs. My green sweet iced tea is refilled a hundred times. Great food, great location, great decor. If you are relaxed and want to enjoy your company instead of fume over the pace, then eating out is for you. And if it is, O is a petty decent place to eat great sushi.

My husband and I always have a great time here. Our favorite sushi chef is Eddie, but we call him Easy E. He's awesome, quick and his plating is beautiful. Always a fun, eclectic crowd. We have gone with our daughter and sat at a table a few times, but we prefer the bar. Hot sake doesn't taste like rubbing alcohol, which is a rarity for most sushi bars. My husband LOVES the pickled wasabi - you have to special order it. I love the scallop roll, its very unique, huge portion, and its delicious. The staff has always been very kind and helpful, however they often need to be flagged down, as with most sushi restaurants, if you sit at the bar. All in all, this is some of the best sushi in OC, if not THE best I have had.

  • Jeff F.

Slightly better than average sushi for the price. Service was good. Fish was tasty but pieces were very small. Salmon, Yellowtail, Tuna, all good. Shrimp and Uni very good. Appetizer Yellowtail collar was good but at least $4 more than most places charge. Nice sake list and sampler flights. Place was very quiet last Sat nite. Maybe better sushi choices in the area?

  • Jess M.

FRESH FRESH FRESH.!!!! Now some places I go for the specialty rolls and fancy appetizers. But O is my go to for seriously good quality fish...Ahhh.... sashimi. Yellowtail Belly to be exact. I'm at this spot at least once a week for lunch! ALSO If you're a fan of Tuna Tartar, hands down best in Orange County, bold statement..i know. But trust me, you will not find another this good around here. Nick's in Laguna is a close second...

A group of 12 of us showed up for lunch. We shared several orders of sushi and rolls, and most of us also had a lunch entree as well. I'm not a sushi fan- so I skipped out on the rolls. But most people seemed to enjoy it, and even my co-worker who lives in Japan gave it a thumbs up. I had ribeye steak donburi for lunch. The steak was cooked perfectly and was really tasty with the glaze they had on it. I had a bit of trouble eating the long slices of steak politely when all I had was chopsticks. But the portion and price were spot-on for lunch. Won't be the first place I think of for lunch- but definitely a good choice.

Standard sushi restaurant. I've always wanted to try this place because it has 4 stars on yelp and I love sushi. However, for the prices and the quality of the [sushi] product received, I would rather visit another establishment. I ordered the sashimi lunch and it came with three cuts of fish: tuna, salmon, and red snapper. The quality of the fish was decent and the portions were standard. Standard sushi rolls are on average an extra $2/3. I would understand if the fish quality was fresh, but for the run of the mill fish I wouldn't come here again.

Hold up. Wait a minute. Stop. Just freaking stop. Oh. Em. Gee. Wow. Okay. Okay. I'm good. Lets write this now... Here we go: so I come in for take out but the sushi gods did not speak to me... They yelled at me with violence to sit, sit down. Right now. Okay, okay. Even a free beer and sake at this place would warrant a million dollar tip since the service is amazing. Now let's progress to the most criminal thing I could ever say. I've been a loyal customer to another amazing top rated place in Irvine, and don't want to bash how amazing they are or the wonderful service at the other place... However, my experience today was beyond great sushi and services, it was decadent. I thank Alansan for the amazing sushi and Cody for the service. I highly recommend this place and go exploring off menu or let the sushi chef pick stuff for you. I am coming back for sure, since the other place is getting so busy I can't get in anymore.

As I said before, I am a sushi nut so i can tell when fish is fresh. It wasn't. I got the omakaze (basically "surprise me") while sitting at the sushi bar. Asked specifically for no shrimp, and I got a shrimp roll. Hmph. They used a lot of toro, which was cut beautifully. Unfortunately when I got sushi, they used wasabi in almost every piece, probably to mask the fishiness. Fresh fish should not be fishy, you know what i'm talking about. A whopping $95 for three plates (probably 15 pcs of fish total for each person). Service is excellent though, but I didn't come here for that, I came here for good fish, which I did not get consistently. Of course the toro was fresh, but there were some questionable pieces of salmon and red snapper.

BEST SUSHI IN IRVINE! My boyfriend and I both enjoy great sushi (i.e. sushi snobs). Sushi chef Toru personally created an incredible sashimi platter for us. Guarantee once you've tried it, you will say "I've never seen this before". Not cheap but a definite must try. Ask for Toru.

O-fine is our go to sushi place in OC. They have a wide variety of sushi rolls for people who like simple rolls like the california roll, avocado, etc and people like me who enjoy good sashimi. My favorite roll is the Crunch Tuna Tataki- has crispy onions on top of tuna and we ALWAYS get the snow crab, none of that imitation crab crap. Beef carpaccio is delicious if you're into rare meat. The hummingbird appetizer is delicious! Don't forget to try the crispy tuna which is spicy tuna on crispy rice. Service is good there as well Pretty much everything is good on the menu!

Rolls are pretty good. Sashimi tastes fresh. My favorite dishes there: 1) Their baked lobster sushi roll for $18 is worth it! 2) Tuna Craker 3) Seabass in ginger broth 4) Sukiyaki for $14 will fill you up! 5) Crunch roll (shrimp tempura roll)

I had the three item combo with some co-workers. I had the Tempura mixed, rib-eye beef and the katsu chicken. everything was very tasty. It comes with miso soup and salad. It looks like the portions are small but trust me, I am very full. Trust me I can eat too! Great place, good service and very clean. I'll be back! 3 item combo with tax comes up to $15.61 PS...They serve very fresh sushi as well.

Tried O Fine for the first time and was very happy. The quality and craftsmanship of the sushi were exceptional. We tasted a lot of different things on the menu. My favorite was the "O Roll" which included a variety of fish wrapped in a thin cucumber slice with avocado and asparagus. All the sushi was great. The Yellowtail Collar was also very good but a little bit too pricey. Be careful though, the sushi is a little bit pricier and if you're not careful you will quickly have a $200+ bill like we did!

My husband and i are all japanese food lovers. We have been here for several times since we moved around Irvine. They have a great great eating environment and always consistent in their food quality and service. If you are a noodle lover just like us, really recommend their hot soba soup with Agedashi Tofu (or Sesame Chicken ). Also, their Fresh Yellowtail and Eel Sashimi are always on our must-eat list (^-^)!!

Wanted to try another sushi place other than my usual go to restaurant in Irvine. I was pleasantly pleased with O. Came with my husband, his two friends and my 3 yr old twin daughters. We started off with a favorite saki called Kikusui. What we ordered: Yellowtail Collar Kobe beef with scallops Spicy tuna cut roll Spicy scallop hand roll Grilled sea bass roll Rainbow roll Poke roll Seaweed salad Everything we had was fresh and really good with great presentation. I have no negatives to say about this place. We all had a great time including my daughter. I will definitely be back.

This sushi place is the new standard for all sushi restaurants in my book! The rolls are absolutely delicious, fresh, and large. The prices for their sushi is comparable to all other sushi restaurants, except you get a lot more in each plate. They don't pack a lot of rice and each sushi plate is unique from the others. My boyfriend and I usually come here to celebrate our monthly anniversaries, days when we have sushi cravings, or birthdays (mine and friends'). We usually order the tuna tartare, ahi poke salad, O Roll, TNT, Sashimi Roll, and a few others. Pretty much whatever you get will be good. Real crab is available for $0.50 more, so I highly recommend if you're not allergic. Real crab used to be free, but they have to offer imitation as default because of food allergies. The restaurant is clean and beautiful. The owner is very friendly and always makes an effort to come by and say "hi". The sushi chefs are really nice, but seems to change staff quite a bit. I still see some old faces, which is good so they could make recommendations from past orders. Overall, I'm very impressed and so very happy to have found this place. I've looked all over LA and OC, and none can be any better than this! :)

Great sushi! Best I've had in Irvine. The chefs are awesome. Super cool and friendly. The price is a little high, but worth it for the quality of sushi

The extra couple of dollars per roll is completely worth it, and they compensate with killer happy hours. Customer service is great, the ambiance is perfect for a date night, and the fresh fish never disappoints. If you're a sushi connoisseur, you'll be happy here with the seasonal favorites, like uni and toro.

Huge sushi fan and always down to try new Japanese restaurants. From the outside of this restaurant you wouldn't expect the inside to be so fancy. The inside is definitely fancier than your average Japanese restaurant. As soon as you walk in you're greeted warmly by the staff. Came here on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy, we were able to get a table for 2 without a wait. We had the Chillean Seabass Misoyaki, Prime Ribeye Steak Teriyaki, Jala Yellowtail and sushi burrito. My favorite was the Chillean Seabass, it was flavored and cooked to perfection!! The Jala Yellowtail was also a great dish. The only one I probably would not order again is the Sushi Burrito, too much rice. My only complaint would be the price. On average each dish is $5-$10 more than it usually is. If you appreciate a nice ambiance and fancy food presentation then you'll think that it's worth it!

Manager messaged me asking me to come back in. No discount no incentive to return. I clearly had a horrible experience here I dont know why you would even bother messaging me. My advice? Get servers who are there to provide good service not rush/push you out the door and turn off the lights on you while you eat your lunch. I still can't get over how badly they treated us. No. I do not ever wish to return here.

I'm not exactly sure how this place has such high ratings. These people seriously have to be rolling in the dough to be dropping such high dollars for such mediocre food. My friends live across the street from this plaza, so we decided to grab some sushi here. It's a pretty small restaurant, and we waited about an hour for a table on a Friday night. I was pretty surprised at the prices. Each entree was at least $15, and the two item combination was $20. Even a basic California Roll was almost $10. I tried to shut up about it, and was under the impression that either the ingredients were really fresh and good, or that the portioning would justify the price. I ordered the Japanese burrito ($11), which was spicy tuna, avocado, shrimp tempura, imitation crab, and rice, rolled up in soy paper. When they brought it out, it was about the size of a McDonald's snack wrap. I have to say it was nicely presented though, and quite delicious. This was for sure my favorite dish of the night. I got to try some of the Red Dragon roll, Rainbow roll, and Garlic Beef. I was expecting prime cut pieces of beef perfectly sauteed in a unique garlic sauce, but it was pretty much standard teriyaki beef. Pretty disappointing. I'm not sure what they put in the middle of the Red Dragon roll, but the consistency and texture of it was not very appealing, or tasty. The tuna used in the rainbow roll was flavorless. It tasted as if it was left in the freezer so long that it lost its fishiness. It was also not soft in texture, but rather hard. The quality was typical of sushi buffet sashimi, but unacceptable for a restaurant like this. I'm fine with small portions, but my BF eats a lot. His bill alone was $50. Which was insane....

This has to be one of my favorite spots for sushi in South OC. Why? 1. The quality of sushi is always very high. 2. The service is always very nice, friendly and professional. 3. The restaurant has a fun and clean atmosphere. Not sure what more you want from a sushi restaurant =)

I have eaten sushi for over15 years, all over the world, and rank my new sushi spot, one of the best! Quality is one thing, creativity is another. Fine Japanese Cuisine has both quality and creativity. I got the rainbow roll that had crunchy fresh crab, mmmmm. Delicious. The service was amazing too! The owner Charlie I think was his name...gave me a Complimentary house special so I can enjoy a delicacy on the house. I will go back, good food, good service, what else could you want :-) thanks! :-D
