I thought the L&L in Hayward was better than this one, but I still like this one. Interesting staff. This place will cut it when I don't want to cook.

Probably best in the area for Hawaiian barbecue. Lots bigger selection than the one in the Pinole Vista Shopping Center, so I prefer this place to that one.

Finally coming around to review one of my local favorite Hawaiian Barbecue joint in my home town. L&L in Hercules has your usual Loco-Moco, Hawaiian Chicken BBQ, Spam Musubi, Chicken Katsu, and more, but what I really like is their Chef's Special Garlic Mahi Mahi. I'm a real big GARLIC nut, so anything with lots of garlic I pretty much devour in record time. I got to agree with one of the reviewer that L&L's Mahi is usually served on a bed of cabbage bigger than half of the plate to drain out the oil, but it's Fish Oil, it's good for you. Don't some people take those capsules with fish oil in them now a days? (Just defending my garlic mahi mahi) So whenever my wife and I are too lazy to cook dinner after a long day at work (which is pretty much most of the time) L&L Hawaiian BBQ is our spot for a quick take home from down the street.

Good fast Asian food. I love their mac salad, bbq chicken and chicken katsu. The restaurant is clean but the family that owns it is super cheap! No free refills on soda and extra napkins are stashed away behind the counter. Please buy better quality plastic utensils...my knife bends when I cut up the BBQ chicken.

Chicken katsu w/rice & macaroni was an ok portion. BITE size Mahi Mahi w/ rice + macaroni was not worth $8.95. Total for a meh meal was not worth $$.

I've tried plenty of L&L's. Now L&L isn't all that great period but this place is gross! I ordered the Lau Lau and Kalua Pork with cabbage and yuck! When I first opened my container of food I already thought to myseld, "Hey! The portions are really small comapred to the other L&L's!" But after tasting it...the portions didn't even matter because I couldn't even bare to finish it. The Lau Lau was unwrapped, the meat was dry, the greens were over soggy and bland! The Kalua Pork was salty and really..really dry. I also ordered a spam musubi but was so turned off by the food I lost my appetite to eat it. I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN! 1 star...2 thumbs down.

Greasy. Oily.. Not as good as with the first owner.

I'm sorry but I've tried a lot of other Hawaiian BBq and nothing is compared to L&L The San Pablo location by me closed and I have no idea why. Good thing though I guess cuz as much as I was in there, I was surely gaining pounds Had L&L the other night since a very long time and boy I am never disappointed. The portions are great! I ordered a large rib plate w/an extra side of macaroni salad. I just loveeee their salad and the cabbage. It was great!!! Thumbs up :)

The only thing I get from here is the chicken katsu, its pretty good. I've only been here twice. the spam musubi is ehhh okay.

I thought I liked L&L, so knowing I was going to be in Hercules one day, I dreamed all morning of having the chicken katsu for lunch. Then my friend pointed out it was a Friday in Lent, and I conceded to order the mahi mahi instead. A terrible choice! I could smell its day old fishiness wafting out of the plastic container. Thin pieces of fish, but at least it wasn't soggy. And why do people love the macaroni salad?! I remembered it being overly mayonnaised, but not by this much. At least I only ordered a mini, which is the perfect small appetite size.

cash only = eat elsewhere, but if you do go, get the loco moco, don't get the garlic chicken

I like L&L , its a good place to have a quick and well priced lunch or dinner. Food is good, but nothing to die for, but I do love their macaroni salad. This place is very small, so try to go for take out for sure.

I only like Spam musubi. The katsus and what not are decent, although I never really crave them. Its all about the Spam musubi. Think of me what you will. You may think I'm gross. You may think I'm a freak for liking Spam. But I grew up with it, what can I say? I think its an Pacific Islander thing - Spam, rice and a fried egg for breakfast (or dinner if you're like me and running out of options). Thats how they do it in Hawaii, I swear. Of course, I'm not from Hawaii. But you know... I know how they rock it. And they rock it with Spam. Promise.

I would have given this place two stars for the price but I eat here often. This particular L&L is okay but the people that work there are kind of bitchy looking. It was never really like that before these people took over but I started noticing it last year. One thing they have to change is their cash only sign that is blocked by these toys in front of the cash register because many times I see possible customers get turned away by the cash only sign and a possible meal. All in all it's a good place to take out food rather than eat in.

  • Kristin P.

If you've been to any other L & L you will be disappointed. The food was good, but the options, portions, etc sucked. For instance their price for one piece of spam musubi was only slightly less than every other L & L's price for two. They won't let you get a mini plate of any of their seafood or pork menu items. Their katsu sauce actually appeared to be watered down. There is a sign on their soda fountain informing patrons that they are only allowed one refill and that after that they must pay 75 cents...for some water, CO2 and syrup! All in all they are cutting corners to make a buck, and it shows.

L & L ... If you have a craving for a loco moco, you can find one here. I love their chicken katsu. Lunch plates are the best...

  • Mel E.

The food is pretty decent here. I'd much rather go here for the Spam musubi or chicken katsu musubi than any of the meals. Sure Spam is the luncheon meat that never goes bad, but it tastes oh so good between warm rice and a piece of nori (seaweed). The chicken katsu one is good too, just because you get the crispy texture mixed in with the soft rice. Both run for less than $3. The one thing I can't stand is the macaroni salad that comes with the plates. Way too much mayo if you ask me.

I went out for a business trip around Hercules, CA and decided to stop by the plaza area. I was debating on either Subway or Hawaiian BBQ for lunch, but with the help of my lady, that made it easier deciding on what to eat. I regret that. Well, the foods come in two sizes, Mini and regular. I was so hungry so I ordered Korean BBQ, regular. I was amazed by the portion served for regular compared to mini. Mini is basically like the perfect portion for a 150-170 pounder, and regular is 200+ pounds. I overloaded. Regular price range around $7.95 and mini are $4.95. Anyways, the food is okay, I had better, but I was satisfied by the service and the speediness.

This is as close as I guess you can say to Hawaii. This place always makes my food just right with all the accommodations and requests I have. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I always order the Hawaiian BBQ plate. Their macaroni salad is the best, the chicken is always juicy and tender. I always ask the cook to remove the skin for me because I don't like chewing on chicken skin, and they're pretty good about doing that. I like that there's a bed of cabbage under the bbq chicken, 1 for soaking up the yummy juices and 2 for my veggie fill. Spam musubi is my other favorite. I love the special sauce they use in the middle. Super tasty.

  • Dave K.

The food is pretty typical for authentic Hawaiian food [read: not very good] so we'll go with 3 stars here because it's legit. The personal touch on this joint is the "No shopping carts" sign on the door. Really? Yes. Hilarious. I must have missed the bona fide watery Teriyaki sauce usually present at the L&L's in Hawaii. An extra star would have made it. Bottom line? Heaps of grub on the cheap, but don't take a date here... unless she's really hungry! Auf

  • Harmeet S.

Terrible food. It was not fresh and it tasted like it was the remains of yesterday's meal. I am not a huge fan of BBQ or meat in general and I heard a lot of good things but this place disappoints. Furthermore, the place also has a specific, rancid smell that I cannot identify because it smelled so bad. Also, the last reason that I gave this place one star is because they had a freaking insect in their meal. Avoid at all costs.

This is the only restaurant I've been to in the Bay Area where I actually threw the entire meal into the compost bin rather than eat it. I ate two bites, and that was it. The meat was overcooked, yet still gristly. The sauces were sparsely applied and flavorless. Even the rice was inedible (it was too dried out). I offered bits of the meat to my cats, but even they wouldn't touch it. Frankly I'd probably rather have canned cat food than this stuff, too. So into the bin it went.

I usually like L&L Hawaiian BBQ chains but this one is not what I expected it to be. Portion was small and the batter and seasoning doesn't seem as flavorful as the orginal chains. Usually skip out on this L&L in particular.

I refuse to go here anymore because the wait is so incredibly long!!! I was also observing the cooks in the back and one person in particular was running on snail's pace. All I ordered was a mini hawaiian ribs and I had to wait nearly 10+ mins.! It was ridiculous because it happens all the time!! I would understand if the cashier would have told me, it will be about an X no. mins. wait, but no, nothing is said and the customer is left waiting around for eternity it seems like. What ever happened to customer service and getting customers in and out as fast as possible without mistakes??

  • Jay B.

CASH ONLY! WHAT THE!!??!?!? This was sooooo inconvenient!! We came here to order a couple of party platters. Mind you these platters are between $25-$40. Who the heck carries hella cash, not I... Anyhoo, I got over it and got some cash from the bank next door. Next time, I will pre-plan and cook chicken katsu, bbq chicken, ribs, and noodles on my own!! When you order a small party order, be prepared for a SMALL ORDER.. No huge portions here. Yet the convenience was a thumbs up.

Didn't know what to eat, and it was 130p.. so I picked the first place I drove by lol. Wouldn't you know it was L&L Hawaiian Bbq, I don't usually come here because I think the food is mediocre and it's my daughter who really likes this fast food chain. Not really a big fan but I do like their Chicken Katsu =) The likes - They have mini meal for 4.50 I can't really say much, on their website it mentions the food they serve is a brand of unique fusion of Asian and American dishes prepared with a unique island flare. Really? I found nothing authentic or original nor fusion??? Awwh I've tasted better. Enough said.

For an L&L BBQ, I must say that I am somewhat disappointed. I have gone to several L&L's and this one is my least favorite. The only reason why I go here is because it is the closest one to my girlfriend's place. If we were at my house, I always go to the one in Daly City. The taste that comes from their food is not something I enjoy. It seems that they create their own recipes and it changes each time. I have yet to have the same tasting BBQ chicken or chicken katsu. Two stars only. I've experienced better and you should to if you can.

  • Ryan M.

They got some good dishes here. But the employees etiquette needs improvement and their portions of food are disappointing especially since their prices are higher than most in the surrounding area. Lastly they only accept cash, my message to the owners it's time to get with the program and make some improvements.

    (2)
  • Alan P.

Wow the portions have been getting smaller and smaller since the new owners took over, with a small increase in price. Just bought the BBQ mix from the Vallejo location made the BBQ mix from Hercules look mini.

I go here for my spam musubi, loco moco, and curry chicken katsu. It's not amazing but not bad. If you want some Hawaiian food, it's a good place to go.

I'm updating my review because last nights dinner was SO good. I literally finished all but one piece of meat from my BBQ mix. We ordered there then waited about 10 minutes for our food. Not that bad considering we had a big order. I never knew how much business this L&L got until I was actually waiting in there. (I usually call in then pick it up real fast.) Even if it is a inconvenience that it's cash only, seeing all the business they get, no wonder they don't feel it's a necessity to change their policy. People are still going to come regardless therefore they will be coming home with hella cash regardless. I just hope they don't get robbed.. Carrying that much cash is not safe. But anyway, I was so impressed with my dinner last night. The taste of my BBQ was delicious and they hooked it up with the amount of meat this time. It was the first time I tried the fried shrimp and it was delicious with the tartar sauce! Next time I'm definitely getting an extra scoop of macaroni salad cause it is just too good!

3 stars for the food, which was decent. Took away a star because of the poor service. Stopped by this place on the way home for a quick bite to eat with my little one. Hawaiian is usually a good bet with our family -- mmm, food with rice. First thing I noticed is the big CASH ONLY sign right next to the register. Next thing I noticed was the unsmiling cashier who curtly confirmed the information on the sign. I should have probably left right then but the hangries were due to set in if we didn't eat soon. I stared up at the menu for a bit and asked a few questions which she answered in a too-loud, very annoyed tone and a sour look on her face to boot. I ended up ordering a mini loco moco and some spam musubi. She cashed me out, yelled the order back to the kitchen and then promptly disappeared. In the interim, my daughter wandered up to counter to look for napkins and called back several times but with no answer. Our food was ready in about 10 minutes. Again, sour-puss lady come out, asked "eat here or take out?" and gave us our food. No thank you, no pleasantries, no nothing. On the upside, the food was good. The loco moco had a well seasoned beef patty covered in gravy and topped with an over easy egg. My daughter had no complaints about her spam musubi which we asked for without sauce. This is probably an okay place to get food so long as you take out and don't mind the sour-puss cashier. I get it, not-so-fast food is probably not the most glamorous job in the world. Even so, acting perpetually annoyed at your customers is NOT the way to get return business. i've been to other L&L's where they were at least courteous. A quick check of other reviews will confirm that others also found her rude so this likely wasn't an off day.

I don't mind shitty fast food and stuff, but this place is the worst L and L I've been to. By far the least clean and least friendly one I went to. I won't take off a star for the unfriendly service because well, it didn't bother me THAT much. This place is CASH ONLY so it kind of sucks, luckily I had cash. The 2 star rating is just for the food. UGH. Saltiest and most over-cooked meat I ever had at an L & L. And as a college/grad student when I was busy studying this would be my go-to place because it was fast and I dig that unhealthy but addictive macaroni salad. But....I'll never come here again. Ick.

Came here when we were craving some Hawaiian food. Just coming back from Maui and having lau lau and kalua pork, we were really hoping for some decent food. As everyone states, it is cash only and if you place a large order, it can be quite expensive and I just usually don't carry a lot of cash. Wells Fargo is near but that doesnlt help much if you don't use them. The lau lau is ok. Much more leaf to it than pork. The flavor was ok but I was just hoping for more than a small chunk of pork (like you would get at DaKine on the islands). The kalua pork was just ok. It had ok flavor but I was hoping for much more. The BBQ beef does have some good sweet, salty flavoring but no citrusy tang to it at all. Chicken katsu was crunchy and fairly moist, my daughter did like it and their katsu sauce is pretty good. The spam masubi is good and there are times I would just like to grab a bunch of these to munch on as a snack. The fries are usually ok, salty and crunchy but this time they got a bit steamed and soft as well as not much salt. There is not much selection when it comes to Hawaiian food and if you have a craving, you just kinda have to have it. L&L will do but I wish they just spent a bit more time on nuturing their flavors.

I'm not the biggest fan of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, but I still don't mind getting a meal from here every now and then. Personally, I feel like the food can be hit or miss. The only things I've had here that are consistent are their spam musubi, scoops of rice, and macaroni salad. Often, I find my chicken katsu a bit over cooked and dry, same goes for some of the fish. Today, I decided to try their ramen burger combo, which came with fries and a drink. Since ramen burgers have been such a huge success in other places, I was really excited to try L&L's, for I had never had one before. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed with my meal. The ramen "buns" were really soggy; it was difficult to hold the burger. The fries were over salted, which was a shame, because they were nice a crispy, just the way I like them. Regardless, I'll still come here for food every now and then, but I think I'll stick with the rice plates and musubi.

  • J'Ron E.

The food is hit or miss. Usually a hit! But the customer service is awful. They only accept cash, which is a bit of a hassle but not a deal breaker. The cashier looks like she never wants to be there, and seems disrespected when I say I ask for sweet & sour sauce instead of Katsu sauce. If she would turn that frown upside down it would be a much better experience.

  • Zoomer S.

Wish they had "fish & chips", instead I had the chicken bowl with brown sauce, don't know the real name, doesn't matter. After lunch my tummy was in trouble, rumbling...I needed to "go". Go eat elsewhere, like me.

I have come to this l&l several times but usually order the same dish so my review is not well rounded. I typically get the chef special fried rice with beef which is wonderful. Nice flavor, spam, BBQ beef, seasoning, rice...very nice blend. It is a little pricey but I will pay it every now and then to satisfy my craving. Their spam musubi is yummy. They don't overpower the spam with too much rice. One big downfall to this place. THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. seriously? Why? What year are we in? I will not go to this place many times because I carry only plastic. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who feels this way. Please, owners of l&l, avoid being cheap and allow consumers to use a modern day form of payment called a credit card.

  • Claire B.

I read the first 10 reviews for L & L in Hercules and still decided to go try it out for myself. I have been to several around the bay area and they are ALL the same. You know what to expect when you go in. It is like going to McDonald's. You know what to expect. It is not gourmet food, you can't expect it to be gourmet. It is what it is-hawaiian fast food. You get a lot for you money, the food comes out fast, the owner/cashier was very pleasant & yes, you have to pay cash. Spam musabi was good, chicken teriyaki was juicy, chicken katsu was crunchy (just the way I like it), and the macaroni salad was pleasantly good. One negative, ramen burger-SKIP IT...soggy, hard to eat, messy, and the 2 patties are too much.

    (5)
  • Amara R.

Their food is so good ! I love it. The only thing i dont like is how much more pricy they are the other locations. I go to the Antioch location and i always pay like $2 less for each plate.

  • Jessica N.

I ordered a spam musubi and instead of the normal sauce in it they put KETCHUP without notifying me and said I ate it and I can't get my money back. Ridiculous

They only except cash here which I guess would be okay however they have rude service and their Bbq chicken is way soo salty I don't think I want to go here anymore...I like other L&Ls but not this one.

  • York S.

This place is like a worst one for whole L&L bbq , Server is rude, and meat is over salty as they can keep longer time . Place is dirty , I will never come back . Worst worst worst. Disgusting

  • Kathleen T.

I don't even want to give this place one star. It deserves 0 stars. I ordered the seafood mix, there's no fish. Tiny shrimps, no rice and macaroni. I paid over 10 dollars for this? Never going back.

  • Laila K.

I've come to this L & L for a while because I live in Hercules and the location is very close. The food is good, but it is definitely not worth the excessive prices (which are raised every so often) and the TERRIBLE customer service. In addition, while the prices go up, the portions get smaller and smaller each time I go there. The owner/cashier lady at the front is very rude and stingy. The last time I went, she barked at me that they only take cash, which is very inconvenient. She also knotted the plastic bag so tightly that I had to rip it to get to my food, and when I asked for another one when I was leaving, she said she would charge me for another bag. Really? You also have to ask for more napkins, utensils, etc. because it kills her to supply her customers with them, and when you do, you are met with a nasty glare as if you are causing her problems. Lastly, she gave my friend and I three cups for water, and when she saw we weren't using the last one, she took it back and put it back in the stack of cups! I will definitely find a better Hawaiian BBQ place that is more worth it because I am sick and tired of this rude woman. I wish there was some business bureau that she would have to answer to.

  • Danny L.

Shame on the owner for turning a decent establishment like L&L into a seedy Chinese restaurant. There is nothing Hawaiian about this place. Prices are ridiculous, the quality of food is awful, the service is cold and unwelcoming, and they only take cash because I'm guessing they're too cheap to cough up the 3% commission fee to have a card machine. The chefs are confirmed Chinese, wouldn't be that bad if they were cooking Chinese food.

Good Food but they only take Cash which is pretty annoying

  • Chris M.

This place is close to where I live so it's convenient when I want some decent Hawaiian BBQ. I ordered the Chicken Katsu mini plate. The Macaroni Salad and Chicken Katsu itself are alright but nothing too special. The portions are also a bit smaller compared to other places. I thought that there would be a little more Katsu but there's just enough here to fill you up. I was the only customer that night and thought that the service could be slightly faster. I was inside waiting for about 3-5 minutes for my mini plate. The food is a bit pricey as well. I paid about $5 for my Chicken Katsu mini plate. I also really wanted a Spam Musubi but was not willing to pay $2.25. This place is cash only and will not accept debit or credit cards. I like Hawaiian BBQ and it's conveniently placed in the shopping center near where I live. It's not the best but also not the worst food I've tried. It's decent enough to make the trip when I have that craving.

Beef and short ribs barbecue plates are the bomb! I like their fried saimin noodles. SPAM musubi is bomb as well. But you have to try their Ramen burger! Bomb! Bomb! I just don't like the cash only option.

This place is A JOKE. I'm actually from Hawaii and trust me, there is ZERO Aloha in this excuse of a restaurant. Lady in the front is RACIST. So many negatives about this hellhole. First off the customer service is non existent. The old angry Asian lady who works in the front is so rude. She seems like she's stealing money from you because she is allergic to please and thank you. Hastily, she snatches money from you like Gollum going for the one ring. In Lord Of the Rings Gollum accepts credit cards because it is 2014!!! This place doesn't. Also this lady is racist. Hates anyone who does not look Asian. My other friends who are either African American or caucasian. Whenever my friends pay she doesn't give them their change, she gives it to me every time. She is racist. This place isn't even close to real Hawaiian BBQ. Save your money, don't go here. If you go here you might as well flush $16 down a toilet because it's the EXACT same thing.

like most negative reviews, everything what they say is so close to the truth, this l&l is one of the worst branch. racist asian lady is so funny that my eyes olmost popped out from rolling when the 2nd prson who is white greeted him with full on smile and sweet voice.

  • Dan T.

OK, I eat Hawaiian BBQ and love L&L a lot. BUT, This one does not fit the bill. The person at the front was very nice ( No it Wasn't the rude lady the other reviews talk of) However, the food sucked. I had the Kalua Pork and Cabbage. A normal L&L Kalua Pork is about 70 to 80 percent Pork with 20 to 30 percent cabbage. This one was 65 percent cabbage. The Pork was old and had liquid smoke so heavy I was still burping liquid smoke hours later. The Pork was still dried out and overcooked. Obviously I was served food that wasn't fresh. My wife had BBQ chicken that was dry and obviously had been REHEATED to save having to cook fresh food. We will never go back. Ever. There is another Hawaiian BBQ up at the next exit (Appian Way) If only we had looked at Yelp before we went there we would have seen all the bad reviews.

Tried this place twice and same results. I ordered chicken katsu the first time and it had a bad after taste. So sent second time I ordered the same and same bad taste due to using old cooking oil. Here is the best part a quarter of my sliced chicken was cold and the other part was hot. Read some of the other reviews and come up with the answer. To be sure I ordered the same dish at another l&l and no after taste. I have been to a bunch of L&l in CA & NV and this is the worst franchise ever. Stay away from this Hercules location

    (1)
  • Elenie V.

The chicken Katsura made me feel sick. It might just be because I'm not used to eating fatty foods so it didn't hit me well. Also, a lot of people have said that the woman who works there is not nice and I got to see that first hand with my friend. I also had some of the sriratcha sauce they had here and it was so nasty I think it was old. I wouldn't come back because 1. I don't like this kind of food and 2. The service is somewhat fast but not friendly. If you don't care about costumer service or things of that nature this is your place!

I absolutely love there food. Yet I rarely come here for three reasons. One is the lady that runs the front. Who I believe is the owner is so rude and a cheapskate. Second reason- they only take cash. No debit or credit. Which ice aged business still function like this. Again being cheap to not have a machine- she is losing so many customers. I've been in there before and seen people walk out once they realize they only take cash. Third- is slightly the deal breaker. Small portions. For me its a treat to myself to eat here. So when I come I like to indulge. Not usually the case. Food is still really good. Props to the Chefs in the back. I can come prepared with cash and dust off someone's attitude if the food is worth it. But after my last visit. I'll think I'll pass to visit the one in Alameda on my lunch break. So sad!

I've been to this location a few times and try to remember not to go there. I love L&L in general but this location is just off. I assume that there are standards that the chain adheres to, but not here. The macaroni salad comes in much smaller scoops but is the same price as other stores. I called in an order today for a Mahi Mahi mini meal and when I went in to pick it up I had to help the employee figure out how much to charge because this location doesn't offer this option (despite taking the order and it being made). When we got the price settled, I handed him my card, only to be told they only take cash. What chain restaurant only takes cash???? After a trip to Lucky's for cash and paying for the food and leaving very disappointed, I look at the meal only to find that rather than having nice large fillets of fish I was given the bits and pieces that fall off the fillets that then were over-fried. I saw a woman standing outside looking at the menu and advised her to never go to this location. If they hadn't already made my order I would have left to find lunch elsewhere. Please, just say no, never go to this location.

The food is alright. Will come here in a pinch, but it's not the best. It's funny that quite a few reviews mention this lady that works there. She is like a sauce and napkin natzi. We saw another table with their own bottle of Siracha and didn't know that there was a communal Siracha sitting on top of the garbage station, so we asked her for some. She glared at us like we asked her for her first born, mumbled something under her breath and turned around. Then, get this, she opens a cupboard that is LOADED with bottles of Siracha, and begrudgingly hands us one. It didn't ruin my experience or anything, but I thought it was funny reading other reviews that many people have experienced this lady's service.

By far the worst L&L spot Ive ever been to. Horrible service, lady talking on her cell phone (not work related) while taking my order, they dont take any type of cards for payments and comparing them to every L&L Ive eaten, they're shady in portions. Spam Masubi is probably the only thing I can give a star about.

This place would get 4 stars except for a few minor things. 1. It's cash only, its kind of a bitch because the meals can get expensive if you order a lot of food. Even though my bank is right next door I'd rather just pay with card. 2. It takes forever to get your food. If they were faster with it this place would be perfect. Overall it has good Hawaiian BBQ favorites like short ribs, chicken katsu, teriyaki and macaroni salad. It's good shit and I love coming here but I don't want to go to the bank and withdraw hella cash every single time I come here. Personally I don't like Spam Masubi at all but from people who do like it, I hear it's good as well for a snack. Step Your Game Up Guys!

Been here 3 times. Always the same meal... BBQ Beef w/ Teriyaki sauce and steamed rice. Each time, they have over-cooked the meat. Not completely gross, but the meat is SUPER TOUGH!!! I always tell them NO MACARONI and I always seem to find about 2 or 3 noodles hidden underneath the rice. Seriously?!?! If I could give them half a star, I would! You have patrons that love to dine-in, but there are NO napkins on the table. While I was waiting on my order today, another customer asked for a napkin and she gave her one off a roll. When the customer asked for more because her drink spilled (in the restaurant, mind you), she mutters and comes to their table with a dishrag! Ugh!!! If the customer service was a bit better, then I'd happily change my review. You serve me horrible food, you go out of your way to ensure that I get one napkin (my order was for takeout), and you have the nerve to request CASH ONLY?!?! No, thank you! Please let the cook retire!

Worst l&l BBQ I've ever had! Dry BBQ chicken, smaller than normal l&l portions,so called tilapia was small pieces very over cooked fish, shrimp were frozen before, you could tell by taste.wouldnt feed it to my dog! Wish I could give minus stars

I don't get it. Someone needs to give the owner an economics lesson. Starting with "sales cure all" She is cutting every corner possible instead of giving customers what they want so that they COME BACK! Let me start by saying the food is typical of any Hawaiian BBQ franchise. If you like rice, Mac salad, spam, and BBQ you'll find it here. And it tastes fine. That's why this is 2 stars instead of 1. The portions are smaller, as other reviewers mentioned. This owner is micromanaging expenses everywhere she shouldn't! 1) Cash Only. Owners typically do this for 2 reasons: To hide income from the taxman, or to keep credit card fees down. So inconvenient for the customer! 2) No napkins on tables or in the common area whatsoever. Requests for a SECOND napkin are met with a scowl. 3) Only one set of sauces in squirt bottles, but no little comdiment cups to put soy, teriyaki, BBQ IN. (It's SOOOO fun to ask another table if you can "borrow" the ONE salt or pepper shaker!) And asking the cashier/owner for what you need must be akin to asking for her dearest treasure... Prepare for an audible sigh followed by haughty placement of the requested item 4) Im not a fan of signs telling you what you CAN'T do... "No extra sauces", "No second refill", or "cash only"... That doesn't feel so "aloha!" (Though there is an ironic sign posted that says "Aloha Served Here") I seriously doubt she reads or cares about the reviews. But here's hoping. Napkins, sauces, and credit cards can go a long way in building repeat business that would more than offset the additional expenses, ma'am.

I am a LONG time L&L customer in Vallejo and other cities. I recently moved to Herc-town and was pleasantly surprised this little town had an L&L. The Bad: The menu is regular L&L faire but man can the portions be ANY SMALLER?!? Also, there is a BOLD letter sign on the Drink machine that reads: "Due to increased food costs, customers limited to ONE drink refill. Each additional refill for 75 cents." I mean I know its a recession but ALL the other L&L's I have been to do not have this policy. Also be prepared to bring cash only!!! Good thing there is a Wells Fargo next door. There is also a smattering of "extra" items to buy on the counter kinda like an oriental restaurant with Pocky sticks, Pudding Cups and the like. My kids like this because it is an opportunity for them to ask me to buy them something, I think it takes away from the pseudo-hawaiian vibe in the place. The Good: The owners are super nice and friendly and the food is ready fairly quickly. I go here to buy food when the wife and I don't feel like cooking (which is most of the time)... Also, there is no other alternative except for Ohana in Pinole, which is farther, bad service and equally chintzy on the food, or cross the bridge to Tha V but I ain't payin 5 dollar toll just to get more Mac Salad and another Hamburger patty for my Loco Moco.

It sad how the progress or should I say lack of it, is easily seen by folks who have been going to this specific L&L for quite some time. After they changed owners the quality has been going down hill. The portion of the plates aren't reasonable For the price they ask for. The portions used to be satisfying until the change of owner. Gradually they decreased their portion trying to go unnoticed. It's sad how they try to charge more for less. It doesn't make sense. Now for quality, this is where I'm pretty upset because when I'm really craving for some Hawaiian BBQ, I would have to come here, but the last couple of time my food was burnt and lacked in taste. I suggest for those of you who want some Hawaiian BBQ drive to the next city/town over and go to that place. Just letting you guys know its just this specific L&L because I love all Hawaiian BBQ's. This was the only one that gave me problems.

Ever since I moved to San Pablo from Daly City, I've been a fan of this particular L&L Hawaiian BBQ because they also have roasted pork w/gravy. For a while now, that was my usual order up until today. It's been a few months since I ordered that item from them but tonight, was just bad! The roasted pork, though it was soft, it was DRY. And they started to be cheap too! The pork slice is now a thin cut, where before it was a very nice thick cut. Their BBQ Meat Combo Mix also shrunk! You used to get 2 pieces of short ribs, now, you only get 1 piece and the price did not stay the same either, instead it went up! I miss the Daly City L&L Hawaiian BBQ! not only can I order a MINI Roasted Pork w/Gravy, I can get it for cheaper the price as this one and still get a nice portion size!

I think I've gone here so many times that the lady at the counter already has my order in before I get to the register. Living in Hercules for almost all my life and seeing this place change from my regular Chinese food spot which is now my regular spot for when I need my spam musubi fix. This location is a friendly establishment, good food, and you get your order pretty fast. The only things I've really tried on the menu are their chicken katsu, spam musubi, BBQ chicken and beef, loco moco, and their mahi-mahi. Their most popular items are the chicken katsu and the musubis which I can tell they have cooked till they had gotten it right. The mahi-mahi wasn't really my taste, it was actually quite bland and came on a huge bed of lettuce which was bigger than the portion size of my mahi-mahi. So if you're ever in Hercules and are tired of McDonald's or Jack in the Box, you should grab some L&L instead.

I've lived in Hercules my whole life and I used to go to L&L a lot , but ever since they changed owners a few years ago the restaurant has just been going down hill. The service is terrible, whenever I'm there I feel like the lady who works there is breathing down my back. If you're there for over 15-20 minutes eating you'll feel so unwelcome - whether she's staring you down until you get up and leave or cleans the table while you're still there eating your meal. And they are so stingy about how much sauce you can have, your drink refills, and even napkins (you ask for a napkin and that's exactly what you'll get, ONE napkin). On top of all that, the portions of the food are RIDICULOUSLY small. I have fallen in love with spam masubis, so sometimes.. when I'm really craving it, I cave and pick one or two up from L&L. But EVERYTIME, i end up regretting it when I open up the little white styrofoam box and see that the spam in my spam masubi is paper thin. So all in all, if you're craving that delicious, traditional, hawaiian bbq, do NOT come to the Hercules L&L, cause that is not what you're going to get.

Five-stars says, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!", but Abby A. says, "Woohoo! As good as it gets in Hercules!" Of course its not authentic Hawaiian BBQ! You can only get that in Hawaii, or at a family owned and operated type joint. However, in MY opinion, this is good enough! Whenever I crave for some BBQ short ribs marinated in L&L's Hawaiian Barbecue sauce, macaroni salad, smoky-flavored kalua, or their boneless, crispy chicken katsu, at least I know that I don't have to travel far, and I don't need anything more than a $10 bill! Oh, and their juice selection: the guavas, passion fruits, mangoes, kiwi-strawberries, papayas, pineapples and more; 'Ono, mikomiko! Abby A. says: until my next trip to Hawaii, I have no problem settling for some L&L!

Pretty good food and really cheap. For a little over $5, you can get a "mini" instead of the larger sizes, which looks small, but is really a good portion size. Their menu isn't too big, but everything looks good. Haven't tried much of their menu, but can definitely say that the chicken katsu, curry chicken katsu, and Hawaiian bbq chicken are all really yummy. Each comes with a nice scoop of rice (yup a scoop...), a scoop of macaroni salad, and some cabbage. Overall, a nice place to grab a quick lunch!

My favorite place to remind me, some what of Hawaii! Not only a good place to get you full and 10 lbs heavier the next day.. It's also a great place to order platters! YENNO.. For those unexpected days, when your in-laws, their siblings, and fifty billion kids decide to come over and visit..!! WTheeck!!?? I love their chicken katsu, bbq chicken, korean bbq short ribs, loco moco.. oh, and have you tried their seafood specials? My oldest orders it all the time! The shrimp is pretty good, so is the fish.. The Hawaiian music gets me all the time.. I feel like doing a solo, right then and there.. BUT wait, I can already hear my significant other and kids saying, "Mom, we're in a restaurant remember? Not Tahiti Fete!" Then reality hits me.. OOPSY!

OK, it's not as quite as good as the grub in Hawaii, but here in the mainland of the Bay Area, it gets the job done, braddahs and sistahs. What would I suggest to eat here? It's more like what I wouldn't suggest here! The BBQ beef is bangin', the mixed plates are mad tasty, and a gigantic order of chicken katsu will leave you catatonic (in a food coma sort of way, of course). This particular location is a tad smaller than some of the other ones I've been to on the Peninsula, but it's the one I live closest to, so I ain't trippin' off that. But yeah, I would suggest this place, brah!

Good food, but nothing too out of the ordinary. It's a good to go here every now and then because it can get tiring very fast. The only dishes I like are the chicken katsu and the bbq beef. I love the sauce for the chicken katsu, very yummy. Service is nice and the place is always clean. If you're not a big eater, go with the half sized meals. They give you a lot of the main dish, with just enough rice and macaroni salad. Oh, the macaroni salad is awesome. I love how they have their own shirts too. I've made it another life goal to own of those shirts. Gotta represent the Hercules area, yeeaah boi!!! Ok, Hercules isn't ghetto enough, nevermind.

i come here every now and then when i'm at a loss (i know what a shock) at what to eat. this place is a quick car drive from the bf's house so it makes it convenient. i always get the bbq chicken (comes with rice and mac salad). i appreciate that they also have a "mini" order size because i normally have difficulty finishing a regular size order. plus the mini size box is SO CUTE. anyways, back to the food. the chicken is pretty tasty - flavorful although a bit on the greasy/oily side (think: coating of grease in your belly/around your mouth post-consumption). i'm not a big fan of macaroni salad because of all the mayo but i will eat the mac salad here - it's pretty good, not too heavy and they macaroni to mayo proportion is one that i can handle. i've also tried the chicken katsu here (not bad) and the mixed bbq plate (short ribs, beef, and chicken). the bf always always orders a spam musubi when we come here - he likes them so they must be pretty tasty.
