Great food, good service and reasonable prices. Good portions too. I LOVE their beef chowfun, hot and sour soup, beef with string beens, and mu shu pork.

I used to come here once in a while and the food was, meh. I was in the area a couple times and the first time after a while, I went and the food was decent and the lady was real kool. So I decided to give them another try. I called it in and I was a little far from the location. I walk in and this new lady says "you are late." I told her yes, I was not in the area. I did not have to explain myself but did anyway. I have not experienced that at a restaurant. Even if I am a little late, they keep it there for me or call. Then she said it 2 more times. If I already didn't pay for it plus them going through the trouble of making it, I would have walked out. So I wait for her to bring me my food. Waiting, waiting and more waiting...I call out to her a couple of times and she doesn't answer me. So I said one more time, Excuse me and she said your food is ready. So I said my food wasn't even ready? She said "since you were late we gave it to someone else, this one is fresh." She just used the last part as an excuse. That's not right. I told her she could of called me if it was such a problem and she said "I know." ?? I said I am not coming back here and left. Bad customer service. They are expensive too.

This place was blah. The food was tasteless, we got quite a few different entrees and everything tasted like it just got cooked in and seasoned by water and water alone. We went here specifically for the type of soup they had, we accidently thought this was another place we looked up on yelp, but boy were we wrong. We got home with our food, tasted it and couldn't even finish it, it was so nasty. We looked at yelp again, and realized the place we meant to go was across the street with some other name, but we thought we had found it. This place has low star rating for a reason. Tasteless food, not too good of prices either.

Ordered Szechwan chicken. Was nothing but a delivery system for fried dough. Eggroll was so greasy I had one bite and the oil flowed out. Hard and stale rice. I won't be returning.

The service is great and fast! My family ordered a dinner for 5 and we were served under 15 min. Food is delicious and tasty and this is our 5th time at this place. Very close to home and open late. I definitely recommend this restaurant. The only reason i dont give it 5 stars is because the place is not that attractive inside but regardless food is amazing!

When I don't feel like cooking or driving and I want Chinese food, this is the spot. I can walk to it from my house. I place my order on the phone and they are always so friendly. It's never, ever crazy busy so your big group is fine and your to go order will be ready in a jiffy. My dad has lived in several places and he still stops by this restaurant whenever he's in the area, EVEN without me! Order the sautéed string beans and ask them to make it a little spicy and you can't go wrong with the pork chow mein Hong Kong style. Yum.

Cant believe no review for here yet.. Ive never been inside..only used delivery.. So if you are lazy.. or some more legitimate reason for needing food brought to your door.. it will work.. Nothing to say GOT to try this.. if there is .. I haven't found it yet. There have been a few "not my favorite".. Its ok..there may be better.. but sometimes those places are just ok as well. Give it a try and see whats your favorite.

We order dinner from here two nights ago. The pork chops were horrible. They were fried into bricks. To hard for an body. The prawn fried rice was alright. For the price we paid, everything should have been perfect. We spent over $50.00 for two people. It was our first and probably last time we order from them.

Man I used to love this place... till I order too close to closing time. My food was horrible. They didn't cut the veggies, just giant chunks of uncooked onion yum. Barely any chicken and the few pieces in there were fat and nasty. Oh and my pregnant fiance got a super sharp chicken bone in hers. We're so sorry we inconvenienced them during business hours.

Been ordering from them for 2 plus years. Not 1 complaint about food...until today. Only a couple of call ins on (extreme) lagging service and delivery time. The merlot I ordered was sweet and mixed with white zin. Bought it before. Color and taste way off. The food I ordered was sparse and not quality like before. Where's the beef?! Burnt egg roll. Not even pork. No sweet n sour sauce. Ugh. I call ONE time to communicate my thoughts and I was put on hold TWICE for other orders during the call. Then I was told I needed to take her 60 years of experience as truth and if I had any complaints, to take it to the wine n food companies. I barely got to talk about the food before I was shut. Down. Like kinda mean shut down. If I could give zero stars, I would. All about loyalty but I'll spend my money where it's appreciated. Sorry, I gave a choice. Spent hundreds of dollars here due to convenience...wait, now you're interrupting my call saying I'm out of line for not being happy about the order. Wait, now you are taking another order (no, 2 orders) n have me on hold. I kindly asked 3 times (after I got the proverbial finger)....please reimburse me for specific items or bad Yelp review. She argued and argued...choice made. You might get some good food if you're random, but unless you take what they give, you will see their customer service twist sideways and then doubt any cent you spent at their establishment. Horrible service when they are questioned...yes, you...Yvonne. Hong Kong Seafood off Tennyson will be my go to. Mei has been nothing but kind for years with good food to boot.

This place is great if you love bland food that's 60% onion and 2% metal shards from a scouring pad. Oh, and waiting 3x longer than told for your food. Greasy, flavorless garbage.

Online Ordering should not say 45 min... its been over an hour and I still haven't received my food... I called to check on my order and all the lady would say is that "You're far away, driver on his way" .... im 4 miles away, the website says they deliver up to 6 miles... So far not a very good experience at all. Its not proper or professional to say one thing and do something completely different. Got my food after an hour and 40 minute with no napkins and no soy sauce and no silverware....pork fried rice has no flavor, honey walnut shrimp was cold.. Definitely wont do that again.

Ordered General Tsos, orange chicken, chicken fried rice and a single serving of steamed rice. Total came to 25 and some change. I was warned on the phone that the General Tsos was 'spicy'. We get home and it was all BLAND! The two chicken entrees pretty much tasted the same and he 'fried rice' looked like steamed rice with some soy sauce mixed in. We tried The Great River on a whim and it was a BAD CHOICE. In our opinion it was AWFUL!

This is the best small business Chinese food in Hayward! The business is always great, and I always get service with a smile. I sat and ate once, and our server gave us a free appetizer. I live right around the corner, so I usually order my food online. (Which is AMAZING and CONVENIENT.) When I pick my food up, there's always a party in there. The food is always reasonably priced and the portions are pretty big. I'm a vegetarian, and they always offer good substitutes to my accommodations. this is always my first choice when I'm getting my Chinese food cravings.

My family use to come here when I was a child for breakfast. They have sweet soymilk and chinese donuts plus a small dim sum selection. I was searching for Chinese deliver in Castro Valley when I came upon this place and decided it give it a try. Ordered online and received a confirmation right away. The deliver, however, took way longer than expected. The estimated delivery time online was 45 minutes which is fair considering how hard it is to find Chinese deliver to Castro Valley. The food arrived an hour and half later...way too long! Food was decent though. I would allow for extra time if you want delivery and make sure you're not hungry!

We ordered for delivery for home and have for work parties and I usually don't have a problem with them but this time it was horrible! The delivery guy was rude to me and hung up on me when I was telling him what to push to get in our gate and had the nerve to tell me to come down right before he hung up on me! That to me is all bad for him! When we got the food, not even the kids liked it. The meat in the house chowmein looked recooked and burnt. My favorite which is the honey walnut prawns tasted only like mayonnaise (I hate mayo) , the orange chicken was gooey and didn't taste like usual either! The beef in broccoli beef was gooey and and the potstickers tasted old. I will say that we packed our food back up and the owner did refund our money for the returned food but I will never return there again to eat and won't order from here for work either!

They were fast to get here BUT!!!! THE FOOD WASN'T ALL THAT GOOD! The place didn't even pack the sweet and sour sauce, chop sticks or fortune cookies like i asked for. The lemon chicken was dry, the sweet and sour pork was soggy, The house fried rice only had two pieces of shrimp and the house chow mien had only ONE piece of shrimp... REALLY!!! Plus the guy called my phone and yelled at me to COME OUTSIDE... Wow... I wouldn't order from this place again... Knowing i had WAY better from other places in the area.... I'll random select or go back to any other place but this one... Eek! The food DIDN'T taste as good as it COST!!

I love restaurants that deliver and there aren't many Chinese delivery options in the area. Although I have ordered from here a few times, I would never go inside because it just isn't the best Chinese restaurant by any stretch, but it is edible. I ordered a ton of food tonight as I was binge drinking last night... and well, that's what I do on recovery days... eat and sleep! -Dumplings: Love that they are pan fried rather than steamed -Hot & Sour soup: Ordered medium spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. They also put chicken in it... might be good for some but I didn't care to have meat in my soup. -Spinach in Garlic sauce: Very good! The spinach wasn't bitter at all and the garlic wasn't overwhelming either. -Bok Choy and Beef: The sauce was a little too thick but I love that they have a bok choy option! I will definitely order this again. -Lemon Chicken: Good flavor but the breading on the chicken is too thick for my liking. My mom and nephew love it though. -Honey Walnut Prawns: I don't like breading on the prawns in this dish -- some restaurants do it and I'm not sure why! It's my favorite Chinese dish in general but not when it's breaded! -House Chow Fun: Way too many sprouts for my liking and probably one piece of each type of meat... not enough to be considered combination or house chow fun in my opinion. The noodles themselves are decent. I have never had an issue with delivery service... they've always arrived in speedy time and have been very nice.

We stopped in here on our way to mini-golf at GolfLand, this was on the way and a new experience for us. It was just OK. My husband and i both got lunch specials( one entree and side of rice/ chow mien) for $16 and some change, a little expensive but usually for $7ish a plate you get a huge amount of food, well not here. The containers they use have three sections, makes more sense to me to have two sections, since you only offer two things in a plate, instead of cramming rice/chow mien under meat and all over the smaller compartments... The meat portion is very small, i suspect that is why there is so much rice and chow mien pilled everywhere, could be cheaper if that is the case. Orange Chicken and fried rice: The chicken was crispy and good, but not the greatest. It seemed like a small portion, compared to other places. The rice was OK. Ill probably not order it if we return. i noticed chunks of black and brown with some yellowish in the rice, upon closer inspection i saw it was a pieces of an egg! Ew! Mongolian beef and Chow Mien: The beef was Minimal, again pilled all over chow mien it was hard to tell what was what. there was maybe three pieces of beef in the whole plate.. plenty of vegetables tho. The beef was also very mild, usually Mongolian Beef has a nice spicy to it. overall probably wont go back, we have had better Chinese food around the area.

The one star is for the hot and sour soup, which was the only tasty thing out of about 6 different items. I hear the cook ringing the bell that the plates were ready. I assumed they were ours since we were the only people there. After 7 minutes or so I stood up to see what was the hold up. The waitress was playing solitary in the computer and talking on the phone. She quickly minimized the screen and acted confused when she saw me standing there. She then proceeded to serve our now cold food to our table. I use to come here often but I will NEVER go back.

One bite of food and I can already tell you my intestines are getting a flush tonight. Disgusting and oily. Ordered honey walnut shrimp and felt like throwing up. Sent it back because of how disgusting it was and we still had to pay for it. Don't go here!!! If I could give zero stars I would.

DO NOT COME HERE. Came here with my bf to buy a rice plate for his sister. As we were looking at the menu I asked the woman employee about a certain item they had and what was in it in particular and she just gave me attitude reading the name of it off the menu as if it told me what kind of chicken it was already or if it was boiled, sizzled, fried, or etc. She just stared at me after reading the name and it got awkward so I just picked something else I was more familiar with. She then tells me the total is $7.65 so I gave her $7.75 (all my change was quarters), once she sees the money she yells "NO I SAID 7.69" and I go "huh? Ok well that's $7.75" then she goes "wait!...... (Doubles check with the calculator) Oh ok" Once that's all processed, me and my bf are sitting down waiting and I hear my boyfriend go "I understand you guys" (he was talking to the lady and another older man who I think is her husband/business partner) this is the worst part but I'm going to make it long story short, I couldn't even understand anything that was being said because I don't speak Cantonese but little did the workers know that my boyfriend DOES. And he heard them talking so much crap about us saying things like "wow they're so poor for buying one order" "they must be trying to lose weight" "who comes in before closing to order one plate only, that's just sad". One thing led to another, I didn't take the food with me, but they didn't give me my money back. They need it more than I do anyways. They need to really watch their mouth next time, their business won't last much longer especially by the way their restaurant is presented and how they present themselves.

We chose this restaurant for dim sum today and was shocked not by the food, which was edible for Hayward, but by the state of the dining room. Three of the tables were filled with the owners personal belongings (e.g. Metamucil, lotions, papers, walnuts, bags of stuff) . A vacuum cleaner was parked on the wall in dining room. A fan with plastic cover was sitting on another table. It felt Iike someone's home, not a restaurant. Clean up your dining room! No one wants to see that stuff when out for a meal. Gross.

Got an order for delivery from this place. We usually just go with China Garden since they're close by but were in the mood to try something different, and this place has a small menu of dim sum, so why not, right? We order delivery a lot. We're lazy. So chances are at this point we've tried the majority of delivery places for CV. This place is probably not one we'll order from ever again, unless we're desperate for dim sum and that's all we order. As far as the quality goes, the dim sum was ok. Not the best by a long shot but edible. The rest of the food was not very good, and the orange chicken was downright bad. Zero flavor, neon orange, and the breading was thick, tasteless garbage that fell off overly tough low quality chicken. The curry chicken was probably the best thing we ordered of the entrees and it was also kind of mediocre. No level of spiciness, same low quality chicken, but the bell pepper was well cooked and that saved the dish for me. Overall, not a place we'd come back to unless we're ONLY going to get dim sum. The delivery was actually very quick, which I appreciate, and the delivery person was polite, so it brought this up to two stars instead of one. We'll probably stick with China Garden though.

Got delivery last night. First experience with GRC and must say that I was pleased. Even though the delivery was a bit late....most deliveries to my neighborhood are late so that wasn't a big surprise. Food was delicious. Even their fortune cookies were tasty.

Before you order, ask if their delivery driver is the woman or the man, straight up. If the man is delivering, go ahead and order. Good luck.

My sister and I came in for dinner and there was only one other group so we thought we would get our food/service fast. We ordered our food/drinks and when I got my hot and sour soup, the pork was raw. I assumed it was supposed to cook while in the "hot" soup? It never did. So I at the risk of not getting food poisoning, I just didn't eat it. My lemon iced tea (rather country time lemonade mix with brisk iced tea mix) had a fly in it and when I asked for another one, she brought me back a lemonade with another bug on the bottom of the cup. I wasn't going to try a third time. It literally took 20 min just to get the check and some takeout boxes and we were the only ones there. The restaurant was hot and muggy inside and there were tons of flies all over the window sill. The only "good" thing was that the chicken with string beans were decent. I'm surprised health inspectors haven't shut it down for the mere lack of cleanliness. Bugs everywhere, dirty carpet, and piles of junk/garbage bags in the corner of the restaurant visible to customers. I can see why nearly ALL of the reviews are for take out/delivery. But I would definitely check out where all of y'all are ordering your take out from. Definitely never coming here again.

Fast and friendly. I love that you can get dim sum delivered. The salt and pepper pork chop, Hong Kong style pan friend noodles and the shrimp and leek pan fried dim sum are so good! I get delivery from them every week.

Worst service. Dumplings are dry, prawns are completely Fried and dry as well. Lemon chicken is like mystery meat. And the POT STICKERS Fell apartDelivery guy stopped 2 houses down from mine for a few minutes before delivering to the right address. Then maid a copy of my credit card, kinda weird cause I had ordered and paid over the phone. and worst of all opened my fortune cookie to find no fortune or I.O.U.

I ordered my first take out meal here today. I'll not be ordering there again. I ordered some of my favorite dishes -twice cooked pork, broccoli beef, BBQ pork chow mien. The broccoli beef was ok. The pork dishes were terrible. I simply threw out the twice cooked pork after a few bites. It was that bad (a first for me). It had a strong chemical flavor. The vegis were over cooked massively. The chow mien was ok if you took out the pork! Taking a closer look at the pork it definitely looked orange on one side (the orange looked sprayed-on) and gray on the other. I'm new to the area - I hope there are better Chinese take out places here.

So I ordered to-go from here and like any Chinese food restaurant I visit for the first time, I try the same thing every time. I ordered the General Tso's chicken, which is my favorite dish and I can be fairly forgiving of places that have sweeter than hotter sauce or softer chicken verses crispy and browned pieces. As long as its good, I can accept "not great". So I ordered and the older Asian lady that seems like the owner helped me. I took my food home and where I made my first mistake was not checking my order before I left. In any case, I got home and opened my container and all the chicken was mushy, over-coated in flour, white and as far as batter goes, it was under-cooked. I couldn't believe any cook who cooks everyday would serve this platter this way. They were not very busy in-store, but they were receiving a good deal of phone orders while I waited for my food. So..... I would have no problem with any of this except for how the situation was then handled. So I call back to the place and the same lady answers and I tell her about my order and that I would like a refund at this point. That was all. She says " jus bring bock orda!" and hangs up without saying anything else. I went back and handed her the platter and she was already getting my ticket out and making my refund. She said nothing for the whole 2 minutes until she handed me the money back and I said "Thank you!". She replied in this way and I am not fabricating any part of what she said to me. "Tank me? Why tank me?!?! You bring back orda fo' no reason and get you money back so just take and leave!! Go now!" Mind you, she's yelling this, like I just kicked her cat and humped her leg. I said "Look at it!! It's all batter and mushy!" which she never did. She took it completely personal and seriously, this food was not even fit for a dog.... So we had a heated exchange of words where she would tell me off in broken English, while reminding me to leave and I would say some fairly rude and inappropriate things in response. There was a white couple in there eating in at the time and they looked disgusted and terrified, but oh well. "Thank you!" and a refund on bad food should have never ended us up in this situation. Fuck this place.....

Im soooooooooo furious right now! Ive ordered from this place 2 or 3 times now, and it was ok- They deliver to me, so on that alone, it was worth it for me. Ive always had them deliver to me quickly, too, and the guy was always so polite and nice! Today was completely different. The delivery lady has called me twice checking my address and keeps saying her GPS cant find it. Really? Im a house in a regular neighborhood. Youve delivered here two or three times before in a speedy fashion. I try to direct her to me, two streets off of Mission Blvd below Cal State Hayward, but she is acting so dumbfounded and oblivious! I tell her "How about you GPS to my cross street, thats why you ask for a cross street right? Surely it will lead you to Central Blvd off of Mission. "HUh, oh, what? Central? Can you spell it? Ohh I dont know, i dont know.." I say "If you think you really cant figure out directions to get to me, which Ive NEVER HEARD BEFORE IN THE 12 YEARS IVE LIVED HERE I guess youll have to cancel my order" anmd she goes "OK THANK YOU BYE BYE" Serious!?!?!?! You have got to be kidding me? Listen, this is your livelihood, your business! you need to pay more money to have a real delivery driver, point blank period.

This place is excellent. A casual atmosphere with great service. The food is always fresh and delicious! We've been going there for a few years now and never have had a bad meal. I love the way the vegetables are cooked, not too soggy, greasy or undercooked. Simply good, fresh food for a reasonable price and in a comfortable atmosphere.

They deliver beer! Plus, their fried rice, beef and broccoli, salt and pepper wings, crab rangoons, chow fun, and more and more and more are all so good. They always throw in something for free, the delivery guy is always very kind, and they're as quick as delivery can be. Best choice for Chinese delivery in Hayward.

Very nice little restaurant. The menu is pretty, though could use a new cover. Good service, good food...just what you want when craving some Wor Wonton soup on a rainy day. I will go back here a lot. Even though it is right on Foothill, it is set back a little so it is quiet.

I really enjoy this place, I think they serve excellent Chinese food. My favorite thing to get here is the won ton soup. I normally take my orders to go but I have eaten in side once and I was pleased with the prompt service.

Food was okay, my aunt said their panned noodles were very bad but nvr had a place to compare to myself. Service was alright. When an error came up with the food they tried to fit but I think they could of tried harder. They put meat on my aunt's vegetarian dish, a manager came out and fixed it right away but acted like we were bothering her and did not apologize. The place was not every clean either. Dirt on the floor, plates weren't 100% washed, and even a few flies inside. Panda Express is a better choice.

Umm, never again. I saw that they serve xiao long bao and my curiosity got the best of me. It took about an hour for them to delivery and the wait was not worth it. The dumpling wrapper was thick, the pork was tough and there was no soup inside. Not to mention, the taste was bland. It was definitely not worth the money I paid. No thanks and I'll pass on this one.

This place sucked ass!! I went for lunch. I was the only person there, i sat down n they gave me a takeout menu instead of a normal menu. They took forever to ask me my order. The lady was hella rude. I ordered the Shu Mai (pork dumplings). Took forever to get my food and i was sick after the rest of the day. Spent the rest of the day on the toilet. Worst Chinese restaurant i ever been to. Never again!!!

We dropped in on a Saturday mid-afternoon at a time when there was only one other banquet table of diners. The hostess was cheerful and very welcoming. When we were ready, she promptly took our order, so sweet when I tried to dust off my long-neglected Mandarin. We ordered a really mixed selection: braised eggplant, crispy duck, steamed pork dumplings and pork/Chinese chive dumplings. Unlike a lot of restaurants where everything is prepared in advance (vegetables cut, sauces pre-mixed, etc.), it was clear that everything was made to order. Sure, this takes a bit longer, but it was worth the wait. Here is an evaluation of each dish: Braised Eggplant: I haven't had it done right in so long, that this brought mews of pleasure. The large chunks of eggplant and green onions were beautifully charred, and combined with a few shreds of bamboo shoot and mushrooms. Praise be - the sauce was not that sickly sweet cornstarch-gummy crap that is so common to this dish. Pork/Chinese Chive Dumplings (jiu cai jiaozi) : The portion was generous and had an excellent handmade skin of the correct texture and thickness. Again, praise goes to the cook who created a pork-heavy filling that wasn't super-saturated with salt and sugar. The chives were cut large enough to actually contribute nicely to the overall texture. Steamed Pork Dumplings (xiao long bao): These were good but not great. They were meaty enough and seasoned well, but we didn't receive the obligatory 2nd degree burns resulting from the exploding juice upon first bite. I didn't expect perfection here and find that most places screw them up. Crispy fried duck: This was clearly cooked to order. The texture was dense as duck should be, with a suitably crisp skin. Much to our delight, it wasn't the usual super-saturated super-sweet 5-spice clogged stuff that you usually find. No, you could actually taste the duck meat! And surprise! There was absolutely no oil on the plate or on the bony undersides of the duck pieces. White Rice: Yes, this deserves a review. We often neglect to recognize that the rice is not just a carrier for sauces and a means of filling up. Flavor and texture matters. So often it is served in restaurants overcooked or undercooked, and of an unpalatable texture. This was simply good, 'nuff said. Tea: Aha, no crappy Oolong here! Inside the pot was a cloth sachet of a decent tea with what tasted like toasted rice. We'll be back.

Very rude service! We asked for Mongolian beef which is beef and green onion...pretty much came out more onions! And then we also ordered chow main with meat ...same thing apparently two-four pieces of meat was all they put. Besides being very stingy we also ordered steam rice which was not delivered at all and no apologies ...btw this was a delivery that we ordered ... Called the restaurant later lady would not tell me the name of manager and just defensive instead of making up for it....I highly recommend not being a patron of this place if they want to treat their customer who aren't Asian like a pos ... I will definitely visit the restaurant and put my two pieces in with the "manager" which I wasn't allowed the name..horrible way to run a restaurant completely unprofessional! On top of I asked the deliver to please bring chop sticks when he said he had it in his car, dude went to his car and drove off. No apologies at all for messing up this is a terrible establishment treat people how you want to be treated!!!!!

Got food delivered. First and last time. Crab Rangoon - WORST I've ever had. How do you mess up crab rangoon? Here's how: It was so over fried (i could barely chew it) and barely any filling. the filling we did get was dried up and tasteless. Pot Sticker - best part of the meal. Nice portion, good filling. Crispy on outside tender in the middle. Lemon Chicken - not what I was expecting. Very heavy batter - taste like your dry tough chicken is wrapped in pancakes and covered in thick lemon sugar gel. Szechuan Chicken - sauce had a decent flavor but chicken was dry and chewy. Can we get some good Chinese in Hayward? Please!

Went here last night for take out. YUM! It's so nice to get some dim sum with the regular fare. We enjoyed dinner very much. The lady who takes orders and money is very very nice. We will be back!

This is definitely my favorite Average priced Chinese Restaurant! The ladies are so nice and the place is never crowded which I really like. Ive been going here for years and the food has never dissapointed. I recommend the won ton soup, beef brocolli, lemon chicken, and any type of rice or chow mein dish. Check this place out :)

These guys are always serving and delivery very good chinese food. Their Chow Fun, Fried Rice, Beef Broccoli, Pot Stickers are the best! If you order more than $30 worth of items they give you a free item. They also deliver beer which is pretty nice. Always friendly and adequate delivery time. I will keep ordering from them as long as I live in the are.

The soup was too full of onions and bland, the sweet & sour pork was all grizzly and could not be eaten. The chicken fried rice looked like it was just boiled rice and mixed together with a few pieces of frozen pre-diced chicken and had a fish smell and taste to it, the egg foo young could not be eaten at all. I will "NEVER" order from here again. And for spending over $30. for food it should have been decent. What a huge disappointment. We threw it all away. If I didn't have to I wouldn't have even given this 1 star, that is how awful it was. Buyers beware!!!!

For $34 (orders over $30 get a free order of pork dumplings!), we ordered: Cashew Chicken Broccoli Beef Potstickers House Fried Rice Pork Chow Mein with lots and lots of veggies Ya know, it was pretty good. A solid meal, worth the price and tip. I'll be glad to give them a go again.

First time I ever went here was for take out, and that took FOREVER. But! the veg chowfun saved this establishment from putting it on my banished restaurant list. Their fried rice isn't really fried at all, it's just steamed rice with peas and carrots in it. Although, they'll pretty much make anything, with tofu, which is great for veg's out there. Anyway, key to this restaurant is to get it delivered, it's really fast, and if you live in an apartment complex, they'll somehow make it to your door, no need for walking down. The vegetable chow fun is super good, and so is there kung pao tufu, but i think it's called something something bean curd... kung pao bean curd? Eh anyway, we asked them to substitute the meat with tofu and it comes out delicious! -A

i love this place!!! the food taste delicious!!! the resturant has pretty chinese art and is kinda big. its family owned. i rather eat here than corporate panda express. the prices are moderate to cheap. the sweet and sour soup is the best here. they do take 4ever to deliver bc they deliver to anywhere. they are located next door to ihop on foothill. FYI when u order delivery: order easy foods like ricem chow mein, soup, chk wings. bc if u order complicated ass unique hard to make dishes on delivery, too much time passes and the foods texture change it sits in the juices and u cant really send it back... they have $5.50 weekday lunch specials that come w soup and tea...and when u order a large take out order they give u a free mini side dish.

I noticed the mixed reviews about this place so I took a chance. Being fairly new to the Hayward area and the time had come where I was in desperate need to find a good Chinese take-out that could meet the my needs to help nurse a nasty cold. I was willing to drag myself out of the house to pick up some hot soup but came across this place that delivers.. still skeptical. After weighing out my options & not feeling like I was in any shape to leave the house I decided to take the leap of faith. To my surprise, not only did they quickly deliver my soup, I was greeted by a friendly delivery person. :-) Btw, the soup wasn't overly salty and they were NOT skimpy with the portions. I ordered two large soups and rec'd 4 quart size containers. This was much much more than I expected. Plus I requested to add Bok choy & they only charged me .50 cents additional. I will order from Great River again.

Eva the owner was so hospitable even though it was already 10 mins after they closed. The food is soo fresh and they are soo sweet. Lemon chicken is bomb and the chow mein is nngggaaa. Oh and the rice isn't over seasoned, but it's soo good.

Don't bother dining in. This place may make for a serviceable take-out joint, though... This place has been around forever, and I often see it busy at lunch time. When I stopped in for lunch recently at about 11:30, there was no other diners there. The lady who greeted me seemed pleasant enough, but after sitting me, she proceeded to ignore me for over 10 minutes. After ordering, it took quite a while for the food to come out, with the second part of my order making it to my table almost 15 minutes after the first. She never did come around with the bill, and after some time I just left some money on the table and split. I'm not normally offended by bad service at Chinese restaurants because it usually is the norm, but this was ridiculous... The food, however, is decent enough. My pot stickers, which took about a half-hour to come out, were obviously handmade. That in and of itself deserves a star. They needed some dipping sauce, though, and with the server nowhere to be found, I had to go without. The chicken dish that I had as a lunch special was your typically Americanized hodge-podge, but it seemed to hit the spot. The amazingly low prices here are killer...

We've tried every other Hayward Chinese restaurant that delivers. This one is the best! I ordered Shrimp Friend Rice (full of shrimp and very fresh), Veg Egg Rolls, Veg Chow Fun (yum), Sesame Chicken (very sweet, we loved it). Also, delivery was fast, staff was super-courteous, and they threw in free fried wontons.

saw xiao l's response, so i tried this place again. checked their website. absolutely nothing was done to it. called great river and got the same lady. initially, she resisted giving me 10% off, (" how do you spell yelp?") offering instead free egg roll and free ....which i didn't understand. i said no. after awile, i got the 6.50 listed for lemon chicken on the website. when i got there, she couldn't find my order. she had wrote my phone number wrong and couldn't figure out her order in hand and mine's were the same. sampling: -kung pao chicken (6.50 ) lots of large pieces of zuchinni destroyed the spicyness of kung pao chicken, because so much water came out. lightly breaded chicken was tender. -lemon chicken (6.50 on website, 7.25 listed in store) small pieces of breast meat breaded and fried. lemony taste, chicken was dry, not juicy. -beef chow fun(5) small size, comparable to chitown standards, definitely ok.. takeouts: -website still lists all chicken items at 6.50, the takeout menu lists 8 chicken items at 7.25 -some items, fried chicken with spicy sauce, ta-tien? are no longer listed on the main menu and are no longer available. -asparagus beef wasn't available, -nothing was done to the website. *when i was leaving, the lady/cashier asked me did i called a few days earlier? me: "yes".

I took a chance on this place and it was worth it! Looked them up in the Yellow Pages and just wanted a Chinese place that would deliver. I ordered garlic spinach, mu shu prawn, fried rice and I cant remember what else. Probably some kind of chicken. Oh! Won tons... When it arrived, it was hot, had good flavor and it got to me pretty quick. they quoted 45 minutes but I think it made it in 25. It had a good taste to it and I was happy along with my daughters dad who is SUPER critical. I wonder why he's not on YELP. lol The only thing I would say bad about this place is that they are a bit high in price in comparison to other places that are just as good. But I guess you get what you pay for right?

Went here last Saturday with my family on the spur of the moment. We used to come here a lot in the past but this was our first visit here in several years, and sadly, it was awful. When we arrived there was one other table, so service was okay. We were seated quickly and our order taken without trouble. They gave us the 2 menus, the regular menu which is what you can find on their website, and the laminated page which contained the cheaper northern style type dishes. We ordered two bowls of sweet soy milk that comes served warm and in a bowl, some tripe, thick noodles, pot stickers, beef stew with rice, green onion cake with beef, and rice wrapped around a chinese fried donut with pork sung, and red bean pancake. As the waitress left after taking our order we went to grab the white vinegar to go with our potstickers and there was a dead fly in the container. When the waitress came back she told us that there was no more red bean pancake, and then we told her about the fly. She was like "oh, now how did that happen" and took it away. We never got another vinegar afterward, she didn't even bother to bring another one off another table. Personally, I wouldn't have trusted it if she brought another container of vinegar from the back because she probably would have just dumped the fly out and gave it right back to us. As we waited for our food these two elderly ladies came in and sit behind us. Our waitress comes back and is holding 1 bowl in her hand and says, "Since you already have two bowls of soy milk you only need 1 bowl, right?". Talk about stingy, there may be bowls for the sweet soy milk but we still needed bowls for the salty dishes so we had her bring us 2 more bowls. After a few of our dishes have arrived the waitress comes back and takes our two bowls and puts them on the other table and says, "Here, I'll put them on this table here so that they won't get in your way. If you want to use them you can get them". I can't believe this woman, she's so cheap about 2 bowls, unfortunately, this is not the end of the story. We then start to get our food, which tastes alright, it's not bad and it's relatively cheap to order off the laminated menu. Later on the elderly ladies order and as they finish, we hear the waitress say in Cantonese to the people in the back to cook their wonton soup first because the old ladies eat slowly. What the hell? Who prioritizes which dish comes out first based on how slowly the customers eat? This is getting pretty outrageous because I'm pretty sure the people that had come in before us hadn't gotten all of their food quite yet. The waitress said all this fairly loudly, and she had been speaking to us in Cantonese before so clearly she has no shame. While we're still eating, I had just finished the food I had put in my bowl so it was empty. Then the waitress comes along again. She then reaches for my bowl as if to take it away and I said to wait, I'm still using it. How can someone be so stingy over a few bowls? And how can someone be any less obvious about it? It's really annoying and rude for business to treat customers like this. We were only a party of 3! To top it off, later on, at the elderly ladies' table she asks them if they don't like the tea, and says she can take it away. Clearly she wants to take the tea away because she doesn't think they're drinking it. The women then said that they like to eat their fortune cookies with their tea, and that they want the tea. If I were them, I'd be insulted. Anyway, we get our check and we got charged $5.25 for the beef stew and rice, which was on the white board as the special. I thought it was $5.25 on the laminated menu as well, but my mother and sister clearly remember it as being around $4.25 or $4.50. We decided not to bring it up and just pay and leave. We sit there, waiting for the waitress to come back in this nearly deserted restaurant, and we wait nearly 10 minutes before she re-emerges from the back to pick up our bill again. As we're leaving, we suddenly realize, the waitress was so cheap that she didn't bother giving us, the only Chinese customers in the restaurant at the time, fortune cookies. Regardless of the cheap food and it's average taste, the cleanliness was extremely suspect and service so rude and cheap that I doubt we'll ever come back again.

This is by far one of the best chinese food in Hayward. I'm a foodie and I know good food when I come across it. The sauces are wonderful and prices are very reasonable. They also give a lot of food. Enough for left overs or lunch the next day. I love their peking spareribs, dry fried prawns, crab ragoon, and string beans. They also have taiwanese lunch there where they serve soy bean milk, steamed buns, thick noodles and fried donut. YUMMMY. The people who own the restaurant are two sisters. Very nice.

Breakfast is what you come here for. This restaurant is located right next to IHOP and a bit easy to miss. Our family always gets warm soymilk & chinese donuts here for breakfast. You should also get the "fan tuan" (salty sticky rice roll) because it's the bomb! Expect a Chinese donut and pork sung wrapped with sticky rice. I would come here just to get that because I can't find it in the immediate area. It's pretty good and not that expensive even though owners have changed a couple times already. They also have the typical Americanized Chinese menu too.

The first thing you would expect when you walk into a restaurant is a nice hello from the hostess. Nope, not here. (I entered the restaurant) Hostess: Cash or credit card? Me: What? Hostess: You pay cash or credit card? Me: Oh...cash. Couldn't I ordered first before you ask me that? There was no customers in the restaurant. It seems to me that they do take outs and deliveries more than dine in. I ordered the Oyster Tofu and Full House Chow Mein. I was not expecting anything from this place other than for it to fill my tummy. When I tasted the food, I was quite surprise at the flavors. It was pretty good. Not bad. Because this place is cheaper than the restaurant across the street, I guess I'll come back.

Good place for your quick fix on Chinese food craving. Try their House special Fried Rice and you'll know exactly what i'm talking about! Typical greasy food but tasty and cooked fresh. Good food, private parking lot and prompt service.

So far, this place has the only chinese food I'll eat in the area. You can tell what everything is just by looking at it and the chicken they use for the lemon chicken is all-white meat, no mystery gray stuff. major plus. The fried rice isn't the best, but they have some really good vegetarian stuff. Also, they've got good prices, around $6.50 per entree if its meat, a little more for shrimp, a little less for veggie. EDIT: Came for lunch last week...its definitely gone downhill. still good, but not nearly as good...down to 3 stars.

I love this place- pretty good food, affordable, and the people are nice. How sad- they just got robbed- insidebayarea.com/dailyr… oh well. I will have to go here more, just not any time after 7pm, or anywhere else in east bay area for that matter... sigh. I really like the fried rice, and the pan fried noodles (I love any place that actually serves pan fired noodles) Other than that, i have been in big groups, and just by myself recently, everytime has been good, and i am usually pretty picky.

They have a good lunch menu!!!! i always get the shrimp veggie with fried rice!!! the shrimp and the veggie are always fresh and tasty. the fried rice is good, because they don't use a lot of soy sauce on it!!!!

I went to Great River for lunch and it was very, very good. For 5 bucks I got a cup of wonton soup, a pork egg roll and Kung Pao Chicken w/steamed rice. The Kung Pao was perfect. It was loaded with red peppers and to me, Kung Pao is not Kung Pao without those spicy red peppers. The chicken and veggies were fresh and the sauce was delish. My friend had Kung Pao shrimp and she loved it also. Going back here soon!

Food was good, but they got cold quickly as the room was cold. When we came in, only one table was occupied, and there was a heater right next to them. The heater stayed there after the customers left the table (on or off, I don't know) . Wish they offered the heater to be moved to our table. It took a while to get a check and to go box. I agree with another Yelper this place is good for take-out.

I don't know how this place is still in business... I never see anyone there. The food's not terrible, but it's not good either. Their idea of fried rice is white rice with a few randomly tossed peas and carrots. I think I may have seen a few specs of egg as well (maybe not though!). I ordered the cashew chicken and most of the meal was just cashew, and the bits of chicken I did have were fatty. Seemed to me like the pieces were the cut off fat chunks from chicken breast. Not good. The veggies (zucchini), however, were good. I think those were the best part. Fortune cookie was stale.

I am soooooo upset!!!!!! I love this restaurant, the food is great and I have never had any complaints for the last two years I have been ordering from here. I unfortunately have had the WORSE encounter one could have have with a restaurant.....you guessed ROACHES!!!!!!! We ordered the usual and everything went smoothly, my husband took the leftovers for lunch, put it all out on a plate, microwaved it and started eating and to his surprise we got more than we paid for...not one but TWO roaches!!!!!!!! How can this be? I am upset not only because of this disgusting experience but the fact that I now have nowhere to get my chinese food from. It's not like bad service that you can overlook because the food is so good, there is never any turning back after this. I am so sorry to give a bad review but I feel obligated to say something. To the management: Shame on you!

This used to be one of our favorite Chinese restaurants. We would drive from Oakland to eat their cherry pork (similar to sweet and sour, but with a sour cherry sauce instead). My son, a little guy at the time, cracked us up when he opened his fortune cookie one night and said solemnly, "long drive equals good pork". In recent years, the food has gone WAAAY downhill. I haven't had a satisfactory meal from this restaurant in a long time. I live in Hayward now, so occasionally order delivery from Great River. Twice out the last three times I've ordered, they've screwed up the order (orange chicken is NOT moo shu pork). On one of those occasions, they delivered the right order later. On the other, they agreed to do so -- and then never showed up before closing time. The last delivery put me off Chinese food for months: the orange chicken tasted like it had been recycled, the chicken fried rice had no chicken in it and seemed like steamed rice with frozen peas and carrots, and the broccoli beef was an oil spill. Dinner was literally inedible. I will not dine there again.

This is my family's favorite "let's get Chinese!" place. Not the best place for, say, Rehearsal Dinner or 40th Birthday Party, but excellent standard fare. The owners and wait-staff are nice and they give me free food all the time. They will also do custom dishes if you're clear about what you want. For instance, I like a good green bean and wok-fried tofu in black bean sauce dish. It's not on the menu, but they make it every time I ask, and they price it at an average of their menu dishes. The Dim Sum's also a nice touch; I can't get to Yank Sing very often, but I don't need to since they have my absolute favorite Sesame Balls at Great River. Yay! And now, I think I'll call in an order for their quick delivery ... :)

I wanted to update this to say the last few times we have ordered here have been disappointing...way more greasy and fried. I am not sure if they changed chefs or were having bad nights. I'm sure we'll give it more chances since there is no good Chinese in Hayward that we have found, but we will definitely try to find something better if this continues. Original Review (Gave it 4 stars then): I have never eaten in the restaurant but I order food here every few weeks so I can definitely review the food. It is pretty darn good. We used to go to a hole-in-the-wall that had greasy Chinese but that closed. So, we tried Great River. It was different because it was fresh and not-so-greasy, you could taste the meat because it wasn't fried beyond recognition. It took some time to get used to, but now we love the fresh and edible Chinese food we get here. I am not a huge fan of the pot stickers which is usually one of my favorite dishes. But, everything else we get is great; as I write this review we are waiting for all of our yummy food to arrive...mmmm... which reminds me, it takes a long time to arrive usually so if you are being lazy like us, give yourself almost an hour.

Came in for lunch with a friend after having driven by so many times. After being shown to our table and looked at the menus(with color photos of some dishes) we realized we had been left alone for a looonnng time before a man came to take our drink order. Then another long wait for the food and I was hungry! The food tasted yummy (not my holy grail though) and would try maybe takeout or the weekend where they do dim sum.

Quite possibly the worst Chinese delivery my wife and I have gotten. Both the pork and veggie chow fun were bland. The sweet and sour pork was dry and over cooked. The crab rangoons were burned to a crisp. They also screwed up the order and sent pork chow fun instead of the pork chow mein that we'd ordered.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
