Came here tonight for a birthday celebration. Was a total of 11 to the group. It took them 40min to accommodate our group, it wasn't even crowded and there were empty and available tables which we pointed out. They were insistent in putting us on the back side, were waiting for some people to be done, which clearly no sign of leaving any time soon even though they were done with their meals. They finally sat us down. Someoene in our group seperated everyone's orders that way in the end we all would get our own seperate checks. That's didn't work because at the end the waiter came back with one whole check, we made it clear that was the whole reason it was seperated at first, he said he had thrown the paper away with the dividers. So we sat there for another 17 min waiting for them to re do and hand out seperate checks to us. We should of just paid all together . We all got our own checks, each check got charged 18% gratuity regardless. Even for one person who had two items, got charged that 18%. Gonna wrap it up as an experience, never again will I set foot there. I'm gonna stick to going where I know best and enjoy their food , better service and that's kabuki.

let's just say, good quality sushi for the price. This is my go-to spot in Glendale because it is very inexpensive for sushi and it's very close by. Definitely recommend to anyone who needs to fulfill a sushi craving.

WOW! Really good place to get your sushi fix. Lunch menu is really awesome, $9.95 for 3 combination. "CAN'T BEAT THAT" Must try: Magic Mountain Roll Sesame Chicken ***** Service

If your the type that loves specialty rolls, you should definitely come here. I've come here on various occasions, and every time my stomach left happy. It's nicely decorated inside, and usually the wait isn't too long. I came here on a Friday night around 7 and waited roughly 15 - 20 mins for a table. So far I've tried the Red dragon roll, Crouching tiger Roll, Oh yeah baby Roll, Tropical Roll, Salmon Skin salad, and their crispy rice - all of which are amazing. The only downside is I've tried their tempura ice cream, as the tempura outside was not crispy. What keeps me coming back is their specialty rolls, so if you get the chance definitely order one. In terms of portion, I usually order 2 rolls or 1 roll and a salad to fill me up. I will definitely come back :)

I was craving sushi one night and I knew that Octopus had a reverse happy hour so a friend and I went to eat there. I'm a big fan of the Octopus in Fullerton so I was hoping that this location would be good. I ordered edamame, jalapeno poppers and the Alaskan roll. I liked it all except the jalapeno poppers were too spicy, and I noticed that it's because the seeds were inside. The location in Fullerton takes out the seeds which I love so I removed the jalapeno part of the jalapeno poppers in order for me to enjoy it. Other than that I enjoyed my meal there and the service was great. Oh and parking was right across the street with the first 90 minutes free :)

Stopped in after work to try out their happy hour and it was wonderful & delicious. I had my usual spicy tuna and another spicy roll which was albacore. They have this one roll that's spicy tuna, cream cheese and jalapeño tempura (I can't remember the name) but OMG talk about AMAZING. I will definitely be back. The prices weren't bad for happy hour, either. Atmosphere is really nice, I adored the space.

I came here yesterday to eat sushi and watch lakers! seemed like everyone was enjoying the game while eating sushi! Great happy hour as always, perfect place to eat good rolls and fresh sushi! Best sushi restaurant I've been in Glendale.

*****Warning Avoid This Place*** Service at a blind store is better than the people here. So me and my fiance came here to eat last Saturday night because we wanted some sushi and we didn't feel like driving to Pasadena to eat at Gin Sushi cause that's where we normally eat our sushi. This place is a complete joke, the staff is a complete joke and the manager is a complete joke. The manager was not there (how can a manager not be there on a saturday night?) We sat down and was greeted by some waitress that really didn't give a shit about anything and felt like she wanted to go home. I ordered the garlic edamame and the spicy tuna rolls. After about 40 mins of waiting for something to happen. Nothing came out to us and when we decided to leave the place I asked to speak to the manager and that is when I was told that the manager was not there and so I had to talk to some guy who was the supervisor and the only thing he told me was he was sorry..lol This place is a complete joke and worthless people working here. Avoid this place at all costs and trust me. Go to Gin Sushi in Pasadena. That place is the staple for sushi and service. Trust me people, look at my reviews and you be the judge. This place is beyond terrible. And all the people that gave this a 5 star rating.... Really????????

It's a decent local sushi place in Glendale. The quality isn't superb, but definitely fresh enough to be eaten. They have a nice variety of rolls that you can order. The place is clean and got a nice decoration as well. They can definitely work on the service a little, not attentive and a little too slow on a busy night.

09/28/2012 Review Update: Alright, I told myself I would never come back to Octopus again but then since I have a friend that work close to the area and I come visit her once in a while so I gave them another try and was pleasantly surprised. I especially loved the Sashimi salad, the dressing was just enough to season the mixture of greens and sashimi they put in there. Just thinking about it makes me drool :) I totally recommend this item if you have a chance to stop by. Other rolls which I can't seem to recall the names now since it was a while back then wasn't as disappointed as before. I'm thinking the management read these bad reviews on Yelp and they are working on improving the quality. I hope would be able to increase the star-rating to 5 stars if the quality remain as great as the last time I was there. P.S don't forget to stop by during happy hours for 50% of selected items. ========================================================================= I gave them many chances and found the quality to be inconsistent. Out of those 4 or 5 times I ordered from them, I was only happy once with my order. The only reason I give the 2 stars is because of their happy hours menu with quite a large selection of items that are 50% off. Otherwise, they would only get 1 star from me. They messed my togo order twice in the same month and gave me the wrong sashimi and some of the pieces could've been more evenly cut. I'm not sure whether I picked the wrong dishes or perhaps they do have a few amazing dishes that I haven't try yet but with the items I have tried, I wasn't happy with them. They are not worth the price! Do yourself a favor and yelp for other Japanese restaurants in the area, I have tried a few and thought they did a much better job than Octopus.

Cheap beer, cheap sake, cheap sushi with the HAPPY HOUR from 4pm until closing.. all good in my book.

they have good prices on their happy hour menu. great place to go for good sushi in downtown glendale.

  • Sarkis M.

Well to start off me and my buddy come here often for there happy hour and the sushi is good for its price during happy hour. The sake always goes down nice and the service is not bad. The only reason they get 4 stars and not 5 is i hate when i havent asked for a check and im still eating and they bring you the check like they just want you to leave already. As for everything else its not bad but make sure you get everything you ordered when you go before closing around 10 because the chefs are so anxious to go home they might forget one or two things lol. But if you let them know they make it right away and give you another extra one on the house most the time. Its not done on purpose so i dont really care about that as much. Just please let me ask for my damn check before you bring it and put it infront my face while im eating!!!!

For valentine's day, I came here after not coming for a while. I guess they went under major renovation and the place looks amazing! The food was delicious and service was on point. I would definitely come here again!

i bumped up their 2.5 to a 3. only saving grace was their food. service was sullen and inattentive. i got my salad/soup right away, only to receive my bento box 15 minutes later. i didnt appreciate either how the hostess merrily yelled out PARTY FOR ONE! as she guided my lonely self to my table. so i ate. when the food finally came, the first thing that struck me was the giant glob of rice stuck to the bottom of my rice bowl. you couldnt take that chunk off, seriously expediter!? wth? and the spicy tuna rolls, so sloppily made, albeit tasty. they were unraveling everytime i picked one up to soy sauce it. the edamame was unsalted. the salad dressing was suuuuuuper heavy and saturated. too much - i didnt think id have to request dressing on the side for an asian joint. server never came to check in on me. water? i coulda used some more.

Quick and simple menu. Great thing about this place is that they always have happy hour for some reason... And even so the price is very cheap for decent sushi! Highly recommended!

Oh, I haven't Octopus Sushi in forever. My friends and I were deciding what to eat, I was starving, but I didn't want anything heavy. I told them light and crispy. SUSHI! My friends mentioned Octopus and I giggled in excitement because I haven't had their Mozzarella Tempura in forever. So we drove other there in excitement and anxiously waiting. The best part about it was the happy hour, we all got 1 appetizer each and a premium roll. In total, Mozzarella Tempura, Spider Roll, Jalapeno Poppers, Philadelphia Roll, Calamari, Spicy Tuna Tempura. The Mozzarella was delicious! It comes in 4 pieces, but those pieces FILL YOU UP. I was like wow, AND you must eat it right away when its still hot and melted, mix it with the ranch and BAM. Heaven in your mouth! I tried the Jalapeno Poppers and the Calamari, the poppers were delicious! The contrast with the cream cheese and the tiny hint of heat with the jalapeno was delicious! The calamari was delicious as well! I loved it! The Spider roll was delicious, I don't know whether it was because I was hungry or what, but I tried to savor every piece of sushi out there... It was that good.. Maybe. The service was great. Each of our server was nice and sweet. Nothing to say about them but how nice and sweet they were. Hehe. 4 Stars just for amazing sushi, But the extra star is something I can't give them.. Maybe because the first time I came to Octopus was with an Ex. And thats the memory I get when I come here. Whoops. Oh well! Have Fun and Good luck!

This is hands down the best sushi spot in the Glendale area I never go anywhere else. They offer a lot of variety of rolls which are fresh and super tasty! On top of that, the service is always good!

This place is my most favorite restaurant with good services and reasonable prices. They have happy hours every single day and feel comfortable dining in with little kids. Prices of food are very affordable and even perfect for drinking --!

They have a great happy hour menu. I come here often with my family for happy hour. Foods great and the employees are friendly.

  • Anie K.

POOOR service. At times they forget to bring out your order, and they still charge you. Takes forever for them to catch your attention. That's all I have to say. But the food is good. Wouldn't go there whatsoever if happy hour did not exist.

    (1)
  • Amanda D.

Super long and decently priced happy hour but you definitely get what you pay for. They definitely don't make actual sushi rice with rice vinegar, etc, they just put plain hot rice straight onto the roll so they are super warm and soggy. They also roll them loose so the pieces fall apart when you try to pick them up. Fish wasn't remarkable and knife cuts were shoddy. 2 stars for friendly service

    (2)
  • Nathalie K.

One star docked for the service. Nice servers but S-L-O-W. They run around as if they just got their heads cut off. Great happy hour, I love their garlic edemame and their seaweed salad IS THE TITS. Being a veggie I was so excited for the huge portion. :)

This place has gone downhill since David, Jun, & Hanna left. The fish is meh the sushi is inconsistent. The chefs are slow. Bummer used to come here every week.

I have wanted to try this place for some time now and my mom suggested we try it today so we did. The place is very nice clean and servers are friendly. but the food I don't feel is authentic japanese and the flavors are eh! The food presentation lacks creativity. I ordered two appetizers a firecracker and a poke they were both the exact same dish only that the firecracker came with chips. not wonton chips tortilla chips (what happened did it switch to a mexican restaurant) realy greasy ones by the way they were so oily they were shiny. The apps were good but I was very dissapointed to have two of the same flavors and not enough tuna in the firecracker. my mom ordered a lunch combination for something more filling and I was confused when it came it looked like a chinese/ japanes/latin dish. There was this spicy chicken sauteed with onions and tomatoes very latin almost like fajitas . there was eggs rolls. chinese. and the tempura yeah japanese. the salad was cheap and the dressing bad. the soup was luke warm and needed a little more flavor. I wouldn't say it's totally bad i had a sumo roll which was actually really delicious and I can see myslef coming back for only that. but still very bad presentation on the roll. but they use real crab not krab in their rolls. so I would only come here to pick up a to go order of the sumo roll.

They just finished a remodeling, adding more trendy and hip atmosphere to the restaurant. Octopus is very well-known for extensive happy hour that covers not only drinks, but appetizers and most of their special rolls. Service is always on point and fast that you don't need to call anyone out. This is a must-go restaurant if you are in the area. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

You will find me here during their happy hour every other day! This is my new favorite place for sushi! Why? It's super cheap, the food is good and my favorite male waiter (I think his name is Iggy or something) is so friendly! But here's a secret: GET THEIR SWEET POTATO FRIES! Seriously, the best freaking sweet potato fries I have ever put in my mouth! They are crispy, yet they melt in your mouth. I can't get over how yummy these fries are, so GET THEM! Okay moving on... the sushi! My all-time favorite roll there is the SENSUAL PLEASURE. Scallops inside with tuna outside topped with onions/masago and finished off with spicy mayo and eel sauce. I'm drooling while describing this! Yum! My second favorite roll is the Sumo Roll! Filled with different types of fish, (salmon, tuna, white fish) imitation crab, cucumber and topped with some secret sauce. This one is not heavy, it's a light roll and it's super good! Try the H.O.T. roll as well and the Alaskan Roll! These rolls range between the prices of 5-7 bucks for a roll during happy hour! The prices are ridiculously cheap for sushi, but only during happy hour! The only downside is sometimes the waiters are not as attentive as you would want them to be. But be assertive and wave them down. I do it all the time! I also saw that they have an all-you-can-eat Saturday and Sunday brunch for $18.95. It looks like it's worth it because of the unlimited champagne and sake it offers! I definitely need to come back to take part in this soon! Who wouldn't want unlimited alcohol and sushi? ;)

So the other week (7/22/13) me, my girlfriend, and her two siblings decided to eat here because of their early happy hour. When we arrived, the hostess told us to wait, and clearly there were open tables. We pointed out one of the empty tables and asked if we can sit there, and the hostess replied, "We are saving those for big parties." We were a little confused because nobody was coming in through those doors. So we accepted that fact, and 20 minutes later we were seated in a restaurant that was half full. We ordered just a couple of rolls, nothing complicated. As we received our food, from that point on, we were neglected. My roll was made pretty lousy, there was no uniformity. Honestly, my roll turned into a plate of rice with seaweed on it. The next time we saw our waiter was when we flagged her down for our check. It took her quite some time to give us our check that we just sent my girlfriend's brother to grab it from the hostess. We actually decided to just pay at the front and not go back to our table. *Yesterday (7/31/13), my girlfriend returned to Octopus with her oldest sister, little brother, two nephews (one child and one toddler) and brother-in-law. They waited about 25 minutes and decided to leave because a party with the same amount of people came in after them and was seated before my girlfriend's family. As I read other people's reviews, apparently SERVICE is where Octopus is lacking! I do not know what happened, but I used to love going to this place.

Ick! I should have trusted my instincts, but the promise of a decent sushi HH in Glendale was too alluring for me! THE ORDER: Cucumber Salad: 2 stars - $2.95 (HH) for a decent portion of sunomono. It tasted a bit "off." No other way to put it. But, it was one of the best things we tried. Sad :( Baked Mussels: 2 stars - while these were decent, they were loaded up with so much crap, that the essence of the mussels themselves was lost. It was like dynamite on a shell. I didn't expect much. Yellowtail with sliced chili - 1.5 stars -$9.95 (not HH) - C'mon, people. How you eff up hamachi? The temperature was wrong, the texture was wrong and the taste was not that of fresh, succulent yellowtail. Eek. Mexican Roll - 2.5 stars - "Spicy" crab w/ avocado and jalapenos. Well, this was not spicy at all, but the jalapeno slices saved this little baby. The menu did not mention the roll being served with tempura crumbs, or I might not have ordered it. Sumo Roll- 1 star- Aboslutely no flavor of anything at all, except for hint of mayo form the crab mix. This roll was "rolled" like shit, too. Falling apart and not a pleasure to eat. Ultimate Salmon Roll- 1 star - Ordered this bc the picture on the menu had it with sliced lemon. Ugh. This shit was so bland and boring, drowning it in Sriracha couldn't save it!! No! Ulitmate Albacore Roll - 1 star - first off, this shit had shrimp tempura in it (HORRIBLE shrimp tempura). I ordered it bc it looked delish with the red onions all over the top of it. The tuna was nasty, the shrimp was gross, and the whole thing was falling apart. SICK. I would NEVER recommend this roll to ANYONE. Twinkie Ice Cream - 1.5 stars. We figured we might as well end on a high note of sweet naughtiness after such a dismal dinner. What a joke! The tempura batter that they use is ghetto and not appetizing. The ice cream was gross, too. How do you eff up a fried twinkie!?!? THE SERVICE: 2 stars - They were nice. Just a little slow and didn't really "get it." Like, if I ask for more Sriracha, don't take the stuff I still have left from the table. Duh, Genius. Whatever. OVERALL: If you like sushi, do NOT come here. This place is for people who've never had good sushi. I feel bad for people who think this is "it." HORRIBLE. No discount or HH special will ever bring me back. I am shocked this place is actually in business. Ugh! Also, I know it's bc of hard water, but the faucets int he bathroom are covered in layers of limescale and it's effin nasty. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANY YELPER, EVERRRRRR.. enjoy- xo- andrea

I am extremely disappointed in Octopus. The sushi and service was horrible. When I brought up my problems the manager rudely answered "I'll tell them(the kitchen)". Look at the sizes of the salmon, it is half of the normal portion. Second of all, if you look in the corner of the picture it has the "yellowtail" . It looks rotten and as if they cut off leftovers from other customer's plates and sold it to me. I was afraid to eat it, it looked like dead mice. Don't be fooled by their low prices, you get what you pay for.

I am so glad I stopped by this place. Easy parking across the street, very friendly staff, fairly huge place with modern interior, upscale environment, great place for special occasions, excellent service from all the servers, good happy hour menu, and excellent choices of alcohols. I will be back for sure.

Octopus is a chain restaurant. Under normal circumstances, I would feel very confident walking into any chain restaurant location and expecting the same experience as the last. Sadly this was not the case with Octopus in Glendale. Burbank's Octopus is fantastic, great food, great service, pleasant ambiance and layout. Glendale, not so much. The service was terrible and it was VERY loud. After waiting for about 25 min for someone to take our order, we gave up and ordered our rolls at the sushi bar. In addition to our rolls, we also wanted items from the menu, which we cannot order at the bar. After an additional 10 min, we gave up again and finally caught a server, that was not our own, to order from the menu. One of the items ordered was tuna on crispy rice. And I kid you not, there was ranch dressing on it. Like, hidden valley ranch. Like, for on top of a salad. On my tuna!! I then had to explain how their own menu item was made, which was hard enough in itself due to language barriers. After waiting for, what seemed like years for parts of our meal, we then are told it is last call. Before the rest of our food even came out, they are preparing to kick us out. They ran out of salmon, dishes were coming out wet, fake crab (crab with a" K") was coming out, when real crab should have, it was a mess. Sadly, the familiarity of one chain restaurant location, did not translate to another.

Probably the best Japanese Restaurant in the Glendale area, Crunchy rolls are to die for!

  • Ross R.

We have been a handful of times, this is the best of the three such I places within a very short walk, the service is not always efficient but never rude. The price reflects it is the better of three. The menu is huge so always something new to try although we tend to keep to the basics which are always very delicious.

  • Lana V.

I absolutely hate giving this place two stars because ever since they changed their menu and all you can eat (champagne, select sushi rolls, and sake for $17.99), it's just not the same. Do NOT order the Rose Roll. Not only was the presentation disappointing (roll cuts uneven and lopsided) but it tasted like cat food. The waitress dropped it off so fast I think she even knew it was terrible. This place was so awesome before... Now we are just sad :(

They are listed in the Entertainment book for a buy one get one free entree which is valid until the end of the year. I spoke to Kevin who said they no longer accept the coupon. If you can't honor a coupon for the length of time its valid for then don't participate in the Entertainment book. Good thing I called in advance. Makes this business look bad.

Probably some of the worst service I've ever experienced. We were there for over two hours on a non crowded Wednesday night. They almost didn't bring us one of our rolls, brought us an expensive roll that we didn't order but they demanded that we did, and then almost lost our credit card!! We heavily implied that we were frustrated with their service and they did nothing to change or compensate. At the end of the experience we asked if they validated (there is 90 min free parking across the street but we were there for longer because of their service) but they said they did not. I was so upset by the time I left the establishment. The upside is that they have relatively good sushi for the cheap price and happy hour is from 4-close. I would check this place out but be ready to give a low tip.

  • Nolan W.

Is this a restaurant for sushi snobs? Probably not... However - They have a great menu, a cool atmosphere, and better quality sushi than you'd expect for a chain: You can't beat it for the price! My wife and I love to go after 9 for their reverse happy hour: 1/2 off special rolls is a big win. The garlic edamame by the way - is INSANE. Try it.

  • Joshua K.

Visited this location again the other night for an event and I have to admit, they did a good job at remodeling the place. Best of all, they still have the quality sushi, beer, a wide array of sakes, and various dishes at a price that won't put a dent in your wallet. Best bang for your buck in my opinion... Friendly service, quick release of food, good happy hour time zones, and best of all good quality. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite, or having a nice birthday dinner, this place definitely provides. Their mountain roll and sashimi roll never cease to amaze. Would definitely go back!

Wow, never in the seven or eight years since I last ate at Octopus did I think I'd actually give it a 2+ star review. Well, after hubby was sorting through all our Restaurant.com & Groupon food stuff for a place to eat, he figured we might as well use the coupon I bought back in 2010 (yes, 2010)! Since it's walking distance from home, figured we might as well. Went in, obviously re-done interior since I was last there. Better tasting food, great specials (especially all those mini plates, almost like Japanese-style tapas, really) ... you could definitely get stuffed from just a few plates. We over-ordered, but everything was delicious. We'll definitely be back. Great second-chance impression!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Glendale! The best one in the city. All their sushi are fresh and tasteful. Their service is quick and friendly. It's always a pleasant experience eating here.

FOOD POISONED!!!!! Been here 3 or 4 times. The last time I noticed that the sushi smelled bad. Like it had been chillin in the sun for a couple hours. I had them take it back but the new stuff they brought was just as bad. It was the octopus and their yellow tail. It smelled awful. I had one on Sunday and am still suffering from food poisoning. Be careful!! Smell your fish!! It was ridiculous. Me and my cousin were smelling each piece before we ate it. Terrible. Never going again.

Love this place! Been here many times and never once did they disappoint me. It is my go to spot whenever I am craving sushi. My favorite appetizer are the broiled mussels. The customer service is always great. Servers are always polite and checking if I need anything else. The prices are incredibly reasonable and the quality of their food is amazing!!!

This is my favorite sushi spot. The prices are amazing. The sake is amazing. All servers were very attentive. The sushi chefs were very entertaining and put a lot of love in the rolls that were made for us. They also have a very good choice of music playing. I love sushi and love to try out different places. But by far this is my favorite one to eat at. I highly suggest this place. Plus u get free parking for the first 90 minutes. Other then that they will validate. Good job Octopus. Good job!!! We will be back many many times

  • Nazeli S.

The only reason I go here is because they have an amazing half off deal from 4-midnight. That sounds kind of bad, but I don't mean it that way! The sushi is good, it's not amazing, but it's not bad. It's fresh and good, but I won't lie and say it will be the best sushi you've ever tried or top 10, I have tried much better, but how can you not want to go order 100 dollars worth of food and only pay 50? That's awesome. The vibe is very relaxed, it feels like you can just come in and chat and be dressed up or dressed down. No one is trying to look super cool, it's just chill.

I was a regular at this place. Low quality but great quantity. Service is pretty bad but there are times the service is decent. The rolls are messy, and the ingredients aren't consistent. Sometimes, the rolls are drenched in sauce and all I can taste is the sauce. This is where I would go for budget sushi, but never the quality sushi. Don't have much expectation on the service. I really want to like this place because of the happy hour. This place was kind of great until I got food poisoned, nuff said.

Trust me when I say, go here for happy hour and order the Alaskan Roll. It is so freaking good. Believe me. I'm a bit surprised this place has such poor reviews. Everyone go check out their happy hour and let me know where there is another place with those prices and good sushi. I agree it gets busy and the chefs at the bar are definitely not the friendliest after they changed a lot of the original crew, But the food is great for the price. Service is overall great. Even during lunch check out their unagi rolls. The other dishes like dinner menu and bento boxes are not savory Or satisfying. Go here for happy hour sushi.

I was craving for some sushi, but I wanted cheap sushi, so I decided to come here because of happy hour. Big mistake. I sat down, received water, then placed my order. Everything went downhill from there. It took about 30 minutes for my order to come out! And no, not everything came out at the same time. The restaurant was quite empty too. Spicy Tuna Roll: Some chunks of the tuna were thicker than the others and you can really taste that when you eat it. Rainbow Roll: Five different pieces of fish on a california roll. The california roll consisted of WAY too much mayonnaise. As for the five different pieces of fish on top of the roll.. all I can really say is they were NOT fresh! Jalapeno Poppers: These were actually good. I'm finally done eating and now it's time to get the check.. and that took awhile too. I mean, with an empty restaurant, wouldn't you think it would be easy to take care of about 5-8 tables? After paying the bill, it took even longer to receive my change back! Servers would constantly go in and out of the kitchen but wouldn't even bother looking at the guests and asking to see if they were doing okay, or if they even needed anything else. I saw many other customers having to flag down the servers, just as I did the same. Horrible service and horrible sushi quality.

Konbanwa! I think that's what they are yelling at me when I walk in. Now, I'm not a great connoisseur of sushi. Except for a place I questioned whether the sushi was fresh fish, or fish at all, I generally enjoy sushi. So that being said, I really enjoy the sushi at this place. Just as important, the sushi is tasty and also very well priced. Depending on when you go, the prices change depending on when you order, Konbanwa!, the prices can be reasonable to a down right great deal. I enjoy their specialty roles very much... mmmm.. Now, this place is not very well decorated. It is a fairly open space with concrete floors, very low rent tables and booths, pathetic Japanese decorations on the walls that only make it look sadder that they tried to decorate, and two tvs over the sushi bar. I'm saying not a great first date place, see below. More of a we've been dating for a few months and let's go have some decent sushi at decent prices place. I do have to admit, this was the only place ever I got stood up on a date. Konbanwa! I don't think that has affected my review of the place though. She just missed out on some great sushi, oh and me. Konbanwa.

Went here, in spite of some not so great yelp reviews but this place is great! The service was very good and the restaurant was packed (it was a Monday evening). The food was awesome and they have a great happy hour menu. I will definitely be going back.

I Came to this restaraunt on my 21st birthday with my 3 close friends to have a beer and have some good sushi. It started off good when they brought my fresh water eel. I ordered a beer, the guy checked id and went to place the order. He came back a few minutes later and said "because it's your 21st birthday you can't get alcohol today ." I thought it was a joke at first so I played a long with it but he ended up being serious. I asked him to bring the manager so I talk to him about it And He said the same thing. Iasked him to show me the law and the manager Kevin told me that he THINKS he's not allowed to serve me on my 21st bday. He was not certain about it but he still didn't end up giving me my beer! I gave him the benefit of the doubt to look up and show me the law but he said he was not going to check. We ended up leaving and going to Ichiban and actually getting a beer! Apparently people can go gamble and drink in Vegas on there 21st but can't get a beer at a sushi restaurant in Glendale? I'll never step foot in this restaurant ever again!

I've been eating at this restaurant for years; it's a 7-minute walk from my office. I like their dishes, and they have a wonderful weekend brunch for those who can never get enough sushi. But, I have to write about my recent experience. Before I do that, I should inform you that I am extremely intolerant to sugar. If I eat any, I'm up at 2am (literally!) sneezing and wheezing, and my sinus drain near constantly for 2 days. Octopus uses sugar in its food. Lots of it. In all the sauces (not just Teriyaki). In the salad dressings. In the rice used for sushi and rolls. I'm used to this, and am usually careful when ordering. But I made a mistake Monday and ordered the spicy tuna roll on the lunch special. I asked for no sugar, but apparently this dish is pre-made and the last 2 days have been hell, working out all the sugar in those little rolls. I would have given this restaurant 4 stars, but because of the sugar issue, only three.

Came here monday night and I have never got service this bad for the longest time. We arrived around 9 pm, got seated and our orders were taken....20 minutes pass...30 minutes pass..... then 40 minutes pass. I had had enough. Its ridiculous to keep a customer waiting for 40 minutes and not be capable of bringing miso soup and edamame. They had apologized to us and apparently our orders were not even placed. The waitress comes back after an hour and tells us it would take 2-3 mins and our order will be ready. Another 15 minutes pass and I told them if were not going to receive our rolls then we would leave. They apologized and said they were ABOUT to place our order after an HOUR already. Its not like they were super busy anyway. Worst service I have ever received from here.....kind of disappointed in their staff.

Long time patrons...but after tonight....I dont know if we will return---we had to ask for everything---from more water, more tea, we didnt have napkins to start, no wasabi...very disappointing. After 20 -30 min wating for food. They all came out cold...they did offer to give new dinners,,I declined as all our dinners (total 4 combinations) wouldhave tobe returned and another waiting game would encur... the food is good. But the service need a major overhall.....managers included. they also did offer ice cream as a gesture. But at this point 2 hours later. I just wanted out.

The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and clean and open atmosphere. Free parking was cool to. We've been going here for years! We were there with a party, and there was this drunk fat lady at the sushi bar, and she would not shut the f### up... and no staff kicked her out. This is a family place, in my eyes, staff should regulate loud situations more appropriately.

I heard from a friend that this place had really good sushi, and I'm not such a big fan of sushi so this review might sound a little bias. Some of the rolls were definitely unique and creative, but I just stuck with a spicy tuna roll and a miso soup because I wasn't feeling too adventurous. The service was okay, nothing spectacular. Overall, I was just mildly impressed by this place. Maybe I'll come back, but not for a while.

Good times good times, Ahh came here for a nice little dinner to catch up with my sister and I really enjoyed it. It was good. And for a non sushi educated person to say that I mean come on it must off been good. The waitress was very nice and accomadaing/ especially because I wasn't overly familiar with sushi or how to even eat with chopsticks haha. Will definitely be back!

The best sushi happy you will find! A wide selection of rolls available for their half off happy hour. Very friendly staff. The good quality is great! You would imagine considering their low prices they would sacrifice the quality... Heck no. I go there so much I even have a favorite waiter...

What a damn shame... The Speciality Sushi I used to order was in my opinion super tasty and NOW??? HORRIBLE to say the least. Twice I have been duped and my rolls are not served as described in the menu. I remember seeing a report on TV about how so many Sushi Places who try and deceive their customers with low quality fish and or missing ingredients and that's exactly what happened to me twice! The waitress had the nerve to tell me that the Chef knows what he is doing in other words I don't and yet she couldn't point out to me where the missing ingredients were because they were not there!!!

It's a solid sushi place. The service is great, and they greet you very enthusiastically. The sushi is good, but it's even better when you get it at half price and during happy hour! Reverse happy hour is great to get a bite during the late evening hours. They bring a divided plate of spicy mayo, eel sauce, green spicy sauce (salsa?), and wasabi and ginger. It's nice because you don't feel bad about not eating the ginger piles on every sushi serving. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table, and I usually wait about 5. cons-Their iced green tea tastes like water, so just get water.

This place is solid - 3.5 stars. Got the Red Dragon roll and the Caterpillar roll. Very meaty and well-seasoned. Portions here are GENEROUS. My friend and I were satisfied having shared these two along with some spicy edamame (delish!)

Wow SAD! Saturday night and only 2 couples here. Service was just awful! Foid was worse. With all due respect, we are long-time patrons and we have seen this place decline rapidly. We won't be back. We are obviously not alone. Too bad really!

This place is not bad, but it's also not good, so it's a little below average. Quantity is high, but quality is extremely low. If you want cheap & large, you'd enjoy it. If you want quality, might be disapointed

Wow... talk about sushi. I love the scallop and Philadelphia rolls. I know they sometimes put too much cream cheese in the Philadelphia rolls. Yeah, that bothers me too. But other than that! They have great rolls. Their spicy tuna roll is SPICY! A lot of sushi places don't make it spicy and you can only taste the tuna. I hate when it's like that. I ordered Spicy Tuna for a REASON. Their Alaskan Roll is great too! It's too heavy for me for sushi but I definitely enjoyed the taste of it. The sauces are awesome. One has a creamy texture to it while the other one is eel sauce that's sweet and almost goes well with anything and then the green sauce that has cilantro in it. Man. I love the sauces. My friends and I always have to ask for more! They have parking on the other side of the street. You'll probably see it when you enter. Service is great and food comes out great! Come here for their happy hour! Not that crowded and their food is still good :)

The sumo roll and the baked california scallop roll and garlic edamame are amazing. The weekend brunch deal is amazing with all you can eat (on a particular menu which is pretty extensive) which includes all you can drink champagne or saki. I have not been for the happy hour, but will try that soon per some of the reviews here.... I often wish yelp would have separate reviews for "food" and "service", as most complaints here about service which wasn't my experience at all from the 5 times I have been here.

It upsets me that Octopus stopped serving Salmon On Crispy Rice, the best (appetizer) I've ever had. Guess I'll have to settle for Spicy Tuna... Anyway, my girlfriends and I used to come here for Happy Hour. Service fluctuates every visit. Sometimes they are understaffed but all are friendly. We always order different rolls for us to share. Each one of us like different sauces and we never hesitate to ask. They would bring you Spicy Mayo, Eel Sauce, Wasabi Mayo and more Ginger. Very much appreciated :) I've also taken my boyfriend to Reverse Happy Hour at this location. We took advantage of their $3.50 Large Beer (Sapporo and Asahi, Mmhmm!) while deciding on what rolls to get. Take your time with beers if you wanna get drunk first... couple minutes after ordering, expect multiple plates of sushi rolls leave the kitchen. Would be more than happy to come back for Reverse Happy Hour!

This location is just like the one in Burbank food wise. The prices are great, the sushi is fresh and delicious! I loved the Alaskan & Oh Yeah Baby Roll! The garlic & butter edamame is a must! especially during happy hour ( only $2.50!) The service was kind of dull. When we asked for refills on drinks, the server only filled our glasses half way. weird. There is a parking lot right next to this place that lets for park free for 90 min without valadation!

Why can't Burbank Octopus have same Happy Hour as Glendale?

  • Jonathan P.

I was surprised! I usually don't expect much from the classier looking chain sushi joints. I usually care more about the actual food and quality of the ingredients. With that being said, I thought the food was very good and great portions especially for the lunch specials. I was even surprised how good the sashimi they give you with the lunch combo orders was. First of all, I never have had tilapia sashimi. Its a pretty cheap and available fish, usually best served sauteed since it has a more delicate flesh. So, I never really thought about eating it as a sushi or sashimi. It didn't have much flavor, but it had good texture, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. The tuna and salmon cuts were also fresh and tasty. So far, all the lunch combinations have been pretty good. I can't wait to go back to try their happy hour rolls!!

One of our regular go-to's. It can get loud which helps us cause we take our toddler. Inexpensive sushi during happy hour. Service is great though slow at times. Menu is extensive. Haven't been to the one in Burbank so I cannot compare, but I hear the Burbank location is even better.

Not too good. The fish doesn't seem that fresh. Some of the worst spicy tuna I've ever had in my life. The place is oh kay and the people that work there are friendly. However, the food, the most important thing, is just not good. I've never left over so many slices of sushi in my life before. And I've been here twice. Go elsewhere for sure!

I come here sometimes for sushi with friends. The appetizers are hit or miss, but the Poke Tuna and the Tropical Sashimi are always delicious. The traditional sushi and rolls are okay, but I say skip'em and go directly to the premium and chef's rolls, because that's where the flavor is. I love the Red and Black Dragons, the Rose Roll, the Monkey Fry and the Sensual Pleasure. I almost never get anything but sushi and rolls, so I can't honestly speak for the rest of the dishes, but I save room for mochi ice cream. I love the vanilla and the coffee flavors here. Service is a little slow if you come in with a large group of people, but I've always had friendly and helpful servers. One of my friends has very specific allergies and the staff have always been super patient when she explains her requests.

So my roommate raved about this place that it's her "it" spot to get sushi in Glendale. I was hungry for sushi one night and decided to order take out. I looked online at their menu and was surprised at how cheap it was. When I called in, the server told me for take out he couldn't offer me the "half off price" that they supposedly have. I said that's fine. Positive: the server was very friendly and they told me it would only take about 10 mins for my sushi to be ready. When I arrived, the guy actually DID give me the half off! Negative: I ordered spicy tuna roll and yellowtail. I was super super disappointed with the flavor and the freshness. I have tasted better sushi from a cafeteria or grocery store! Honestly, the flavor was bland, and I'm pretty sure the fish was not the real deal. Maybe their other dishes are good, but if you're looking for good sushi, I'd go elsewhere.

This place never lets me down. The food is always good and the prices are affordable. The Bento box meals are a great deal ( $11-15). They are very generous in there servings and the staff is very attentive. One thing i did not like is the wait time for specialty cut rolls, it does not take 20 mins for one order. I have never had to wait for a seat since the restaurant never gets full. This place is good for big groups or a nice lunch or dinner with friends or GF/BF. Parking is free for 90mins

I've been here couple of times and today I had enough of their BAD service... We tried making dinner rsvp for party of 16, but was told they couldn't accept rsvp and waiting was "only" 30min-1hr. So when we got there they say another 1hr, so we've waited, then they say another 1hr, which put our group for a 10:45pm seating time from 7:30pm. Don't they realize that they close at 11 and their last call at 10:45pm? And yet they could have made 4 tables of 4 way before but gave to other smaller group of customers and how could they say first come first served? What type of service is that, especially for a large group...they don't even make sense...on top of everthing, they have an area for "large group" (30 or more ppl) that they don't want to open for us because that means they need to have another server waited for us and said we didn't make rsvp, WTF? I can't believe they even say that...not being a racist (i have best friends who are the same race), but this Japanese restaurant runs by young, bad attitudes & untrained Koreans from the manager, who can't even manage and defending his hostess, to all those that works on the front line.....they just lost a revenue of at least $500 tonight because they don't want to place us in the empty "large group section"...they don't even deserve 1 star. I regret of referring this place & giving them the doubts.

    1. Ichiban Roll (Yum) 2. Sashimi Salad (Yum!) 3. Sumo Roll (Yumm) 4. Sapporo beer (Mmm) all in one. Octopus is the place where you don't splurge on sushi, BUT, yes a huge big BUT it's very good sushi for its value. They do have happy hour specials. They do have nice sizes. They do have good service & welcoming staff. IF, and only IF I don't go for splurgy splurge for sushiization, I'd definitely will be found getting sushiied at Octopus. Get sushiied my friend.

Great food, decent service, great prices. Happy hour is prime time to go. Parking in the structure is really inexpensive, too- I only paid $1 after being there for a couple hours. Definitely my new go-to sushi restaurant.

I came here with a group of friends around 8:00pm, since Ichiban was full and we didn't feel like waiting. I ordered the bento box with steak and salmon. Surprisingly it was so delicious, way better than Ichiban. The service was really good, I love how the chef's at the sushi bar, as well as some waiters greet you on the way in and out. Also, there's an awesome waiter who performed in an episode of Shake It Up.

I was a waitress for 9 years of my life. It's hard work and there is nothing worse than not receiving a tip from a customer. I couldn't imagine walking away from a table without leaving a tip... until tonight! And I didn't even feel bad about it. My daughter and I were seated promptly and received our drink order right away. After that we waited... until I flagged down the hostess and gave her my order. I believe I have ordered from the hostess at this restaurant more often than I have with an actual server. Ok. Whatever. We receive our order and that's the last time anyone stops by the table. Unfortunately for ME, the roll I ordered was terrible (btw I am an avid sushi lover and i have never attempted to returned a sushi roll before). I would have ordered a different roll if anyone had come back to the table. But no one ever did. Eventually, I put a $100 bill on the table hoping to catch someone's attention. Here fishy fishy! Nothing. My daughter is only two and was starting to get restless so I gave up and went to the hostess to pay (leaving behind our leftovers because it wasn't worth the two day wait to get a box). As the hostess printed our check I informed her that there was a whole roll sitting on my table because I didn't like it and no one came back to check on me. I bet you think she apologized and offered to have a new roll made for me... HAHA! NOPE! She smiled. Ummm... did you hear me??? Why are you smiling? Oh, that's right, you don't care. She smiles, hands me the bill and tells me my total. So I requested that she remove the charge for the roll because I didn't eat it and was unable to order anything else. With hesitation, she removes it. I pay my bill, she hands me $70+ dollars in change without counting it back and I go on my way... angry, hungry and without the leftover food I had paid for. I don't know if the problem with this staff is lack of training or lack of give a $h!t, but I have reached my limit. Good food will only take you so far... and tonight I didn't even receive good food. I receive better customer service at a McDonalds. At least at McDonalds I can expect to be ignored at my table and only assisted if I approach the counter. It is clear that the staff at this restaurant doesn't care about keeping my business so I will be taking it elsewhere... along with the tip money that I DIDN'T leave on the table.

Great lunch spot. They have an early bird special that includes a drink for under $10. The only thing is that it is prefixed and you can't substitute. The early bird special is from 11-noon. Their other lunch specials are really good. You can get 2 item specials for $8.95 and 3 items for $9.95. All the lunch specials come with rice, miso soup, and salad. There are lots to choose from: spicy chicken, sesame chicken, spicy tuna rolls, ca rolls, teriyaki chicken/beef/salmon, just to name a few. All are very good options. Be careful w/ the salmon teriyaki b/c on more than one occasion, I found bones in my fillet. Definitely not good for a sushi place to miss the fish bones. Also, if you ask for the California rolls to be dry, they use fresh crabs, which they will charge an additional $2 for. The tropical tea is refreshing without the added calories of a soft drink. Servers are nice and attentive. My tea is always full and they even offered to get me a to go cup on some occasions. Our group has gone there so often they kind of know the extras to bring us without having to ask for it! The food comes out quick. Great for lunch on a budget and time!

It was Saturday night, 2 other sushi bars were PACKED - and we've never had a BAD experience at Octopus, so we headed in. The place was empty - 2 people at the bar - period. We gave each other a glance of 'should we do this' and for some reason - we did. The chefs that used to be young and energetic had been replaced by old grumpy men, no eye contact, nuthin. After one bite of the "fresh Spanish mackerel" I said enough and stuck with cooked fare. I was fine, my husband on the other hand was visiting the porcelain god all night long. I honestly believe the quality of the fish is a health risk. If you love mayo, fried sushi rolls, krab, cream cheese and rice, then by all means this is the best place in town. If you love sushi, fresh fish and personality in your chef, then this is not the place for you.

well it was good, i cant say i received some of my food cold cause it is raw fish for tge most part. the food was good . i been here a few times and i get good service the food was served on time and the portions are big, so order as you go or oder just a few ..... ive had for desert ice crea, it was vanilla and not bad. the staff was amazing and tentative to my needs and friedly the negative side the only bad thing was , the bathroom the floor is sometimes covered in water it might be urine i dont think they have a plumming problem....... little kids notice the conditiom of the bathroom i give the place a 7.... clean the floors in the bathroom

This is my to-go place if I'm craving sushi. It's not really authentic Japanese food (it's run by Koreans) but it's as good as it gets for cheap Sushi in Glendale. I always get the sushi (yellow tail belly and ikura are best) they are about $3.00 for 2 pieces. The house salad is delicious too, amazing dressing! My BF loves the chicken and beef teriyaki combo! They give you a lot of food but I think they've recently raised prices. If you want some quick & quality sushi, this is the place to go!

Ok. I really liked this place but today realized something I didn't know before. I am GLUTEN FREE and we always order the Eel with NO sauce. Well I tasted something sweet on it and asked the chef. They marinate the eel in eel sauce ahead of time. That is so lame. I now have a crampy stomach ache. Luckily they took it off the bill for us. Usually I like this place but that is a very tacky thing to do.

  • Jessica A.

This place was soo annoying, we were the first to get at our tables from the other four that were surrounded by us, and the last to receive our food, it literally took them 30-40min to receive our order, when all the other tables got theirs within 10 to 15min, and to top it off they didn't put in one of our orders we placed, sooo we had to wait another 30min for that as well. I immediately let them know I was annoyed by this, and they put the last order on the house. The only reason they are getting 2 stars from me is because my sushi was pretty good tasting, other then that I will not return here.

I was taught to round up, so I have with this review. Service here is super hit or miss. One time you get s super shy Korean girl that tailors to each of your needs, and other times you get a super shy Korean girl that's lost in space. Each time however, you get a super shy Korean girl, which (in my opinion of course) is no fun when outside of a study session at the UCLA library. But let's assume we see right past that, on to the menu. Why are you charging 1/2 off on everything (aside from the back page of course). Just charge what you need to for profits sake and give your clients a good product. Ultra tiny sushi (paper thin fish slices) with seemingly all rice rolls?!? Come on man. Again, I'm rounding up here (from 1.5 stars) for the sake of maintianing healthy karma. Get your acts together folks, this is embarrassing.

  • Barbara D.

They have 50% off the regular rolls all the time (ie $2 -$3 for a salmon roll, tuna roll, etc). They also have a reverse happy hour which starts at 8:30pm and it's 50% off all premium rolls and other appetizers and drinks. Service has always been good and it's never too busy that you would need to wait for a table (but never empty either). This is definitely not a fancy shmancy Japanese restaurant but a good place for lunch or a casual dinner. For sushi, it's a pretty good bang for your buck!

Food was great, service was wonderful, and the bill was small! The sushi was fresh and delicious, our server was attentive and very helpful, and because of their happy hour i was able to feed 2 people for a a fraction i would of at a different sushi place. Def one of my favorite sushi places!

The happy hour at Octopus is great. My husband and I are able have dinner for under $25. And normally we get about 4 or 5 rolls (we are always starving when we go). The staff is very nice and their sushi is very good. My favorite roll is the Spicy Tuna Tempura. We were there just last night and the food was delicious. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes their services have be quite slow. But the food is amazing. Try it out!

Had the lunch special, 2 items $8.99, 3 $9.99. The spicy chicken teriyaki and the spicy tuna sushi were good, but the California Rolll tasted like canned tuna. Large portions. I'll stick with Zono and Ichiban. Big place.

I really don't understand why people come to this place. Their sushi is definitely on the low quality side and the few times I've been here, the sushi men were cranky. Their rolls are mushy and oversized so it falls apart before I can put in my mouth. But the staff is okay and the happy hour specials are pretty good. The decor is cute too so I guess it deserves two stars.

really enjoy their happy hour! they have a great menu of very affordable rolls and other things to choose from! i always get extra rolls just because i know ill crave it later. other then the food, i think the service can work a bit faster and be a little more accommodating. The one in Burbank is more for a younger crowd and this one is more for a family sort of atmosphere, or at least thats what it seems like to me. all in all, great sushi place.

Been to this place several times. Can't believe I've forgotten to post. Fish and veggies are fresh, service is good and, best of all, prices are abundantly reasonable. Your water glass is always full, they always have low(er) sodium soy sauce, the bathroom is always clean and they don't mess up your order (which I especially appreciate). If you want super duper reasonable prices, go during their Happy Hour (or Reverse Happy Hour). You get free parking for 90 minutes. The whole thing is a steal. Prolly my fave sushi place in Glendale.

My friends and I visited the Octopus last weekend. We got seated real quick as we went there before the peak lunch hour. I've been to this place at least six or more times already, I have never been disappointed with their Sashimi...like my previous visits, this one didn't disappoint as well. My friends had the lunch combination, which was very generous in portion size. The food was cooked well from the Tempura to the Teriyaki's. Since I cannot speak for the food they had, I would give a rating based on the food I ate on this visit. The Ultimate Salmon Roll plate, the Salmon was delicious, it was fresh and beautifully sliced, very nicely presented together with the crab meat and asparagus roll. I also had the shrimp and vegetable tempura on the side, which gave a delightful crunch and balance to my order. My chopsticks danced between my plate of Sushi Sashimi and the Tempura plate, a very satisfying meal that pacified my craving for some fresh Japanese food taste :) Just an update on my previous review....the service was much better!, however, they still don't validate your parking stub :(

came here on new years day since it was one of the few places open. *we had to ask for water 3 times. *one waiter spilled creamy sauce from a used plate from another table all over a friend as he delivered fresh food to our table with his other hand. *most of the drinks on the menu were not available. *parts of my dinner combination were not available and i found out when she served the food that she decided to substitute it with this and that without asking me if it was ok. *we waited 45 minutes for some spicy noodle soup. he (different waiter) spilled some of the HOT soup on the same girl, and thought it was funny and was laughing! we had to tell him we did not think it was funny. he stopped laughing and said "uh, you wan sum ice crem oh samthing?" *soup was spicy, but had no flavor. it tasted like spicy water, no saltiness or any other flavor. we had all been to octopus before and had decent experiences, this was a non stop bad experience. way to start the new year, octopus! lol.

I have been coming here for years. They usually have great service, a great happy hour price for sushi, and the ambiance is not too shabby. However, after my last visit I will never come here again. They must have switched management and all of their waiting/service staff in the past couple months because my last visit was horrible. First, there was no greeting when you walk in. Normally they go out of their way for that. Second, all of the staff are in high school, so they really do not give a crap about service or hospitality. One of the waiters thought he was a hot shot because he was a fast order taker. However, when you bring out the wrong food two different times, speed becomes irrelevant. Third, they did not give us or even ask us if we needed any silverware. We literally had one plate. Try eating a roll with no chop sticks or a plate. Nobody ever came by our table to ask if we were "ok" or to see if the food was nice. All the little high school staff was doing was hanging out by the front desk podium flirting and grab assing. That's why they got a $0.25 tip on a $75 bill. No service, no tip. That's how it goes baby. I probably will never come here again...and people of Glendale...ICHIBAN SUSHI is right around the corner and they actually care.

The service was slow and the food tasted bad. I ordered the "Heart Attack Roll" and it was so covered with sauce and rotten tasting that my date couldn't finish hers.

So update on this place since my last experience. The manager Joon was awesome, and asked to make it up to us. We decided to try this place again since it was under new management. This time we were able to enjoy the sushi, which is actually quite tasty. The service was no where near as bad as last time. I believe the new management will turn this place around, and customers will be able to enjoy their experience and the good sushi

Its been a while since I've been here. It use to be good. It all went down hill once I stepped into the bathroom...the smell of dirty rags hit me like a tin of bricks. I ordered the lunch special....8.95 two items. I got the salmon and tempura. The salmon was extremely thin and fishy. The server was not engaged and that smell of dirty rag stuck with me through the entire meal. They must have used it to clean my table.

The only good thing about this place is the service. The fish is not fresh and does not taste good. I tried them again for the second time and still wasnt pleased. In fact, I got really sick when I got home. I will never return

I went to lunch here w/ a couple of coworkers as one of them said she'd treat & she had a special from restaurant.com where she got like $10 off if she spent $20 (or something like that). Hey! I didn't pay attention 'cos she was treating me! ^_^ So I ordered the sushi/sashimi combo (came w/ 3 sushi pieces of tuna, white fish, albacore sushi & 6 sashimi slices of salmon, tuna & something else and 8 california roll pieces). I usually know what I'm eating but apparently I forgot because the sushi quality was not that great. Also the pricing for lunch specials is more expensive than my normal eatery Sushi On Brand as well as Octopus' fish quality was lower. My Octopus sushi/sashimi combo is $13 vs. $10 at Sushi On Brand. And Sushi On Brand has a more fresh fish quality (not A+ rating like Sushi Go 55 in Little Tokyo/downtown LA but decent for being in the middle of Glendale). Service was prompt. Employees were younger here and actually knew how to kind of smile at the customers. However, I won't be coming back here. I'm all for service, but the quality & pricing of the food are my first two requirements to return to a restaurant. Parking is free for the 1st 90 minutes at the lot across the street. Since they don't provide validation here, I would be very wary of doing their happy hour as my HHs usually last about the full 3 hours that most restaurants give and that means I'd have to pay for parking.

Jun, behind the bar is awesome. Just to watch him make sushi and rolls is pretty entertaining. He would also serve off-the-menu items that would just hit the spot. So yes, I recommend to sit at the bar. I do think that the sushi here is great and everyone is just being over-critical and have no clue what they are saying. Yeah, there isn't always a big crowd because of it's location... comparing to Ichiban place which gets much more traffic. But the food competes! Staff is very friendly, I must say.

    (5)
  • C J.

I was dragged here again. Still below average. Sushi is not horrible but not very generous. Staff either ignore you or ask how your meal is every 5 minutes. Either way, no good! I will not be eating here again

The chefs are really innovative sushi artistes, but the cocktails are pure imagination. Sake makes me happy. Pomegranate-infused sake makes me happier. The service is impeccable, too. i wanna go back for a shameless sushi orgy during Reverse Happy Hour after 9 of the clock.

Happy Hour Review! 50% off premium rolls. Enough said. They're not stingy during happy hour, so I can get a good dragon roll (salmon and eel on top of california roll) for under $5. You can't beat that!! It's pretty delicious! Wayyyyyyy fresher tasting than Ichiban, probably just as good as what you'd get at Kabuki. The quality of the fish is good, not old or stiff tasting. The baked muscles are really good, too.

Words can't describe how awful this place is. I can't imagine ever returning after what I've experienced. First off it was a birthday dinner about 25+ people. We had our own area, which was nice but very crowded. They don't have private rooms, only an area that's sectioned off. Which was no big deal. We had 2 servers. We each ordered our own food on those papers you see at all the other sushi places. Since we had so many people, we put on names on it to simplify the process. They never got to one side of the room until we walked up to them and we never got our waters until half way through the dinner. My food didn't get to me until everyone else was done. I had to go up to them and asked them if they forgot my food. 5 minutes later I see what should have been a rainbow roll thrown onto a plate and served to me. It TOTALLY LOOKED LIKE THE CHEF SLAPPED THAT $hit TOGETHER LAST MINUTE. Sadly, the service was atrocious! I was extremely irritated. The food was beyond AWFUL. The fish was not fresh. I only had half a slice of salmon on my rainbow roll, a piece of roll didn't even have fish on it. And whatever was able to cling on was as thin as paper. The moment I picked it up, the roll would fall apart into numerous pieces. omg it was awful. For 11 bucks I felt like I was totally ripped off. The spicy tuna I asked for wasn't any better if not worst. Again, it fell apart at the slightest touch and it wasn't even spicy. It being not spicy isn't so bad compared to how disgusting the tuna tasted. Maybe I've never had "proper" spicy tuna, so maybe it is suppose to taste sour and rancid. The boyfriend and many of the fellow non-sushi eaters got the dinner combo and wow was that another disappointing blow to the wallet and stomach. A combo with 2 entree is 12 bucks, 3 entree is 14. The bf got his with some beef teriyaki, shrimp and veggie tempura, and some chicken thing. There was barely anything on the tray. All you see is their attempt to disguise the lack of food with freaking leaves. I've been to other places that offers dinner combo for a better price that had more and better tasting food. A friend of mine made a comment that he was literally eating cardboard. Holy crap how is this place still open?!?!?!? They gave major attitude plus they don't validate. Even though the service AND food sucked they got a pretty nice tip out of all of us because we had a huge group. I didn't know mandatory tip meant $hitty service.

The service is amazing. Our waiter was so attentive and helpful. That being said, the food is nothing more than ordinary. The rolls have way too much rice and the fish was not very fresh. None of the rolls stood out as great (we ordered 5) and we didn't LOVE any of them.

Not the best sushi place in the world, but if I'm going out for sushi in Glendale, I go here. Pretty good fusion food, but there are traditional options, like nabeyaki. Their non-traditional rolls are pretty good, too. I particularly like the H.O.T. roll. Sushi is always fresh and satisfying. One time my husband and I ordered regular tuna nigiri and we got toro quality tuna! We checked with them to make sure they got our order right (so we weren't going to be charged!), and they said it was right. We ate it, it was delicious, so we order another. Same thing! It was great. That hasn't happened since, but it definitely has made us come back.

Used to go here a lot when I was younger and didn't really have much experience with sushi. Most of the places around Glendale are relatively on the same level, nothing too amazing. I would rate this place higher because their happy hour used to be amazing (half off premium rolls, but now it's only select rolls) but after eating there again today realized it didn't deserve more than two stars. I was craving sushi all morning but didn't want to drive out to Komasa in Little Tokyo for my fix (plus the place doesn't open until 5PM). So weighing my options, I decided to go with Octopus since it had served me well in the past. Was ordering for take-out and asked for the sushi menu. I definitely wish they had told me the discount prices didn't apply, then maybe I wouldn't have gone so crazy with the menu. I only found out later on after I yelped reviews on take-out for this place. But for the record DISCOUNT PRICES NOT VALID ON TAKE-OUT ORDERS. I should have ordered one of their premium rolls which are pretty good, but didn't feel like spending too much (again, this was when I thought the food was discounted). Ordered some yellowtail sushi, a salmon roll, spicy tuna roll and a yellowtail sushi roll. After realizing how much I actually spent, I would have rather sat at the bar and gotten it for half off...or better yet just not ordered from here at all. The rice tasted stale like they cooked it four days ago, which made the quality worse because there was a lot of rice in the rolls. A LOT. The yellowtail roll looked like it was a steal for your money, until you actually looked at the fish and saw the tiny sliver of sushi drowning in rice. The fish didn't look very fresh either which makes me scared as to how I'm going to be feeling later. The actual yellowtail sushi wasn't much better. It was bland and not melt in your mouth like I've had at other places. The rolls were mostly rice with some sushi filling. Again, the stale rice left a lot to be desired. Even the ginger they provided wasn't fresh. It tasted and felt like it had been sitting out on the counter for days. The wasabi looked like pale green mush and had no kick in it whatsoever. Even half off I don't think I would order these again. It only makes me upset at how much good quality sushi I could have gotten in Komasa for even cheaper. If you want good quality sushi, don't go here. If you want a decent sushi roll drowning in sauces, then this is your place...if it's half off.

I knew I should have went to Tony Roma's instead. I had a BOGO coupon for Tony Roma's, but was tricked by the 50% sushi sign in front of Octopus. Upon entering this place, I felt a bit uneasy. It wasn't just because the place was nearly empty around lunch time, but it was also because the sushi chefs didn't scream at me like they usually do at other sushi bars! I later found out that the entire staff was Korean. So maybe that's why? The fish was decent, but not great. Their salmon had almost no fat....so that sucked. I like my salmon all fatty. and the rice on my nigiri kept falling apart, making it really messy to eat. Also, my brother ordered an oyster shooter from this place and they took forever to make it. And when it was done, they just left it on the counter and ignored us for a good 15 minutes before serving it. I don't know if that's what you are supposed to do when making an oyster shooter, but I really didn't like the part where were sat around with nothing to eat. I will not be returning to Octopus ever. Also, one of the sushi chefs looks like a killer or something. He has a staring problem that really creeps me out. UGH.

Came in for lunch with my staff. Place is nice clean we were seated right away since the place was empty great start...... after waiting 10 minutes for a server I had to ask the hostess that we were ready and she called over waiter. Take in to consideration that other people had been seated after us already had drinks and appetizers. Ryan our waiter arrived finally took our order 15 later brought our food which is great but we had still not had our drinks take it we ordered water! I asked is there any way you can bring our drinks WATER! brought it over never bothered to come and check up on us. Got the check it was cheap for all 3 of us. Food was good place is nice our waiter Ryan Horrible. I will be back I will just make sure to get another waiter or sit on the sushi bar.

This is actually one of my favorite places to go in Glendale. The sushi is always fresh, the service is always friendly (yes sometimes a little slow) but always friendly. I love this place so much I even had my birthday dinner here, where they gave me free Sake and dessert. Every time I have eaten here the sushi is fresh, and they give generous portions. If you come later at night, they actually tend to give you even more because they are just getting rid of the extra food at that point. Another plus to this place is it has 2 happy hours. One happy hour is from 3-6 and then 8:30 till closing. This place is just awesome and I love it. Also, one of my favorite rolls, the Snow Roll (warm baked fish cream cheese, avocado, unagi sauce...) is now on the happy hour menu and is only $5.99 or something like that. Cheap and delicious!!! :) Yay for OJR in Glendale! Love, Gab

The sushi is affordable. I usually come for lunch. The only problem is that the service is WAY TOO SLOW!! If you have anything less than ninety minutes--don't bother. I always get the lunch special. For ten dollars you get 3 items, which is more than enough food. I really enjoy the mexican roll--very spicy.

Ive been here quite a few times and every time i go, its pretty decent. aura is nice. they play current music, the servers are super nice, and if you sit by the bar, you'll definitely expect some laughs from the sushi chefs. food wise, its decent. I love going there for lunch and eat their combination boxes. its pretty good for a good price. favorite roll there might be the "sensual pleasure." give it a try, its mouthwatering. my all around favorite thing about Octopus, and the only reason why i am rating a solid 3.75/4, apart from the good service, is their spicy tuna salad. YUMMMM. i think its the best spicy tuna salad out there, just saying. or at least in the vicinity of l.a. county. hahaha.

So the GF calls me up to ask if I want to have lunch. Since I can never tell her "no" she knows I'm on the hook. I (like many of you) am always looking for a deal. When I asked what her preference was for food, and she responded with "whatever is fine" I knew I was going to use an online coupon. So I searched for one on Restaurant.com and found one for Octopus Sushi. I've eaten here in the past and thought it was good, but with a coupon I knew it would taste spectacular. BTW, I'm not repping for Restaurant.com or anything; I'm just always looking for deals. I am definitely in touch with my inner Scrooge. So with coupon in hand I set out to have lunch with the GF. I get there and the place is 90% empty. It was noon. Usually not a good sign, but whatever... So we have quicker service. Good times! We order the Red Dragon roll, some special roll and a 3-item lunch combo. This barely gets us to the minimum price point of the coupon. I kinda' planned it that way though. The server gives us some miso soup and a salad to start. You know, the usual stuff. The rolls were served the typical inside-out cut-roll style. They were bit bigger than normal cheapie places like Nikko-Nikko or Maki Yaki. The GF was starving so we dive into the first one that comes, Red Dragon roll. Yellow fin tuna & avocado on top with spicy tuna inside and a tasty sauce drizzled on top. Good stuff! Then the special roll came. It had fried red onion slices on top with jalapeno, spicy tuna, I think avocado... this thing had just about everything except the kitchen sink. This tasted great as well. Then we got the 3-item lunch thing. BBQ pork ribs, teriyaki chicken breast and a spicy tuna cut roll. It had some potato salad stuff (I'm still confused how Japanese food has potato salad... whatever) and a big bowl of rice. WOW! Was this a crap-load of food. Since I'm a bottomless pit I proceed to start shoveling... err... chopsticking it in. The ribs were great, the chicken breast was standard, as was the tuna roll. But the potato salad, that was top notch. So since I'm on my lunch break I have to rush out. The bill was normally $44 (not bad for everything), but with the coupon I got $25 off. So we had lunch for just under $20 with gratuity included. That's pretty friggin' good. The only crappy thing is I'm going to have to wait a month before I can use another coupon. In a non Ahhhnold voice... I'll be back.

I'm a weekly regular here and I love it. It's nice and cozy. The staff are so attentive! Their addition of the little sauces at the tables are awesome. great idea. Great presentation' Their new Lion King Roll rocks! Spicy goodness! I also love their happy hours and half price sushi. The only downside is a stray fruit fly. There is usually one there every time we go. Every once in a while our garlic edamame order is missed in the kitchen and brought to us last.

Excellent happy hour! from 3-6p.. Most appetizers are less than $3. Salmon, spicy tuna, and California rolls are 1.99, Soju martinis (assorted flavors) are about 2.50, and Japanese beers (Sapporo. Kirin, and Asahi) are only 2 bucks! You can't beat that anywhere else in this area! Service is always superb! Sit at the bar for the total sushi experience! Abundance of parking in the structure across the street and they validate! Totally love this place and as long as I'm still living in Eagle Rock this place will be my home for terrific sushi!

  • Lucy K.

I think i come here weekly. I will admit - not the best sushi on the planet but for the area its pretty damn good. The fish is always fresh and its never tasted bad to me. Yes the prices are a bit steep - i will give you that but overall its not bad. If you order just sushi (and not the specialty rolls) it is always half off. Their sashimi salad is GREAT! They give you so much sashimi in it with this spicy tangy dressing - I love it! My favorite roll there is the sensual pleasure - DELISH! Spicy scallop with spicy tuna on top its great! On busy days the service can be pretty crappy and slow. It kind of varies there and is inconsistant at times

At least in Glendale, I have not found a better place that Octopus. However compared to other places it would be more like a 2-star. The Good Nice decor Very Clean Bathrooms cool fake cherry blossoms on the men's bathroom door top 40 pop music softly playing in the background Cute waitresses $9.45 for a three choice combo Pre-ordered so our food was ready to munch upon seating Validation The BAD Didn't get a water refill so I was dehydrated at the table The sesame chicken didn't taste like sesame chicken. Service was weak after we got our food. The Ugly Terrible location off of Brand Blvd. This place needs to deliver more on the food and service side cause I expect so much more for a spot that this well presented. Keep on Yelping!

It has been several months since we last ate here. At that time, I would have given them at least 3, maybe 4 stars. For half-price sushi, it was consistently decent. Tonight, they get 1 star for their food quality. Note that I would give them no stars, if I could. So disappointed! We just had the worst sushi ever. We knew something was up when we got there. They changed their "reverse happy hour" from 8:30 to 9pm. No biggie. At first, we noticed a few differences: the menu, the water cups, the servers...we even asked if there was new ownership and they said that management changed. When our food arrived, there were big differences. The albacore didn't even look like albacore -- the color and texture were off. I asked the server a couple of times, but she just blew me off. We had to ask for ponzu drizzled on top. We discovered why they didn't do that in the first place: all the rice just crumbled because of the ponzu. It was horrible sushi rice. Also the sweet sauce on the unagi was not thick and dark like it's supposed to be. They were stingy with the ginger too. The tempura batter was so thin and the veggies were cut so small. We had a coupon for a free Alaskan Roll which was California roll made with real crab topped with baked salmon. Sounds interesting, but do not order this roll! It was covered with some kind of mayo and teriyaki sauce -- I mean drenched. Bad texture, bad taste, bad everything. Yuck, yuck, yuck. My hubby and I regret eating there tonight. Unfortunately we were starving and we ended up eating everything -- we ate it so quickly just so we wouldn't have to taste anything. Now we are at home drinking hot tea to hurry our digestive tracks to get this horrible meal our of our systems!

what money I saved on the sushi, I spent on imodium. this place gave me nasty food poisoning. I should've stopped after I realized the salmon in the philadelphia roll was warm (and slightly grey). an isolated experience I'm sure, but something like that should not, in my opinion, be tolerated. the waitress was nice though! I forgot my book in the booth and she chased me out the door to make sure I got it. too bad kindness doesn't exactly replace my bowels.

Ordered items on the menu but was not in stock, how can a restaurant run out of bananas? Not only was the restaurant was running out of key ingredients, the server didn't know what was available and what wasn't. There was more rice in my sushi than fish. The food itself was well below par. Took advantage of a coupon I had, but instead spent more on trying to get the discount. Took a little over an hour and a half for a dinner for 2, food took too long, funny that it's a sushi restaurant. With the amount of quality sushi joints in Glendale, there is absolutely no point in coming here.

Lunch on 02/15/2011 Here fishie, fishie, fishie............... Sushi just isn't the same without SAKE! Since I was here on my lunch hour...I kept to the Code and did not have any sake :-( Wait, this deserves another sad face :-( The sushi here is a-ok...not great/not terrible. The decor is pretty, not overpowering. The service is decent, no personality from our waiter. My friends ordered the lunch combos...they did look pretty good. One had beef teriyaki and the other had tempura. Very standard. When I have been here in the past, I ordered a combo with salmon teriyaki. It was good....................BUT, after each visit, the salmon got smaller and smaller and smaller. ~ Finding NEMO ~ ya know? This is a decent place to have your standard Japanese food and sushi.

Their happy hour is a great deal, with drinks being extremely reasonable and lots of unique and standard appetizers and rolls. All of the specialty rolls (spider roll, philadelphia roll, heart attack roll, etc) are half off too. The sushi pieces are always half off, so it can be a really reasonable meal at any hour. The fish is typically quite fresh, though I went one Sunday and it was horrible. Every other time I've been, and I've been a lot, it is good quality, especially if you're looking for a cheaper sushi option. The specialty rolls are great. The rose roll and heart attack roll are two of my favorites. And the spicy tuna is always great, so any roll with that is sure to satisfy. The service can be a bit slow, especially as you're starting and finishing your meal. Basically you can wait a while to place your order and for your check. But the food always comes out fast. There are some sushi places with melt in your mouth fish (Katsu-ya in studio city, for example), but if you're not looking to spend a fortune on a delicious sushi dinner, it's a great place.

My mom and I came here for my birthday a couple of days ago. My new birthday wish is to undo the dinner I ate here. It's my fault, really- I should have insisted on eating somewhere else the moment we opened the door and the stench of old fish washed over us. However, we had spent thirty minutes in 134 traffic and I really didn't want to drive anywhere else. We were sat quickly and our waiter came over to take our drink order. That was the last time we saw him for the night. After fifteen minutes, the manager noticed we still had our menus and sheepishly took our order - Dynamite roll and 911 roll for me, dinner special with Teriyaki Salmon, Yaki beef and a california roll. I thought a Dynamite roll was a california roll with sauteed onions and spicy scallops on top- apparently, it's a california roll with bits of the kitchen exploded all over it. We're talking raw onions, carrots, cucumber, soy sauce, mayo, half-cooked scallops, and bits of scary green stuff. The 911 roll (spicy tuna, jalapeno, avocado, rolled in tempura bits) suffered from an identity crisis. The rice was seared and missing the tempura bits, while the jalapeno had been replaced by cucumber and the spicy tuna lacked the "spicy" part of the name. I would have sent it back had a waiter stopped by our table at ANY point of the night. Still, my meal was better than my mom's salmon. Most sushi places use the same fish they use for sushi when cooking the dinner plates. If that's the case, run. I'm hoping they had it frozen, because serving fish that old at a sushi place is a certain way to kill a customer. It was also horribly overcooked and chewy. The beef was salty but okay, the california roll was decent. Granted, there were some high points- the guy who brought out our food also brought a tray of sauces with the ginger (sauces that helped mask the taste of our food) and the manager seemed genuinely embarrassed that our waiter pretty much forgot us. Also, there's 90 minute free parking at the public garage across the street. I wasn't about to let a bad meal ruin my birthday (especially since we just came back from seeing TRON, ftw) but bad food and bad service tends to equal a bad restaurant. I'll spend my pennies elsewhere, thank you

I do prefer the Burbank location because this one is 1) dead-always empty when I go. 2) sushi has never been quite fresh enough... I do like that they have an extensive menu with udon and such but Burbank location has better sushi chefs.

Octopus! Octopus! I feel like i need my fix every week. I havent tried a lot of different stuff but what I've had is pretty fucking good! They use real crab for ALL their rolls. I thought I wasnt going to taste the difference but I DID!!! The Lobster roll is mouth-watering good! The spicy tuna is cooked and I'm not a big fan of cooked tuna. This place is awesome, would be GREAT if the service was a lot better!

Every time I come to Octopus in Glendale I am amazed on how great the service is and how delicious the food is. I've always said that to have the whole package in a good sushi restaurant, one must start at the cor of it's cuisine. In this case my hats off goes to all the sushi chefs at Octopus in Glendale. Especially chef Jun! He is always diligent in his service and takes great pride in what he produces. Every dish is a unique delicacy wich sometimes I find hard to eat because of his talented presentation. Although once I eat it, I totally forget anything I was thinking before because every bit is so deliciously good. If I could describe Jun's sashimi at Octopus in one word that word would be Oshii! Which means ( Nice; Tasty and Delicious!) great job guy's I am definitely a customer that will be coming back. -Jesus E.

This is my 2nd time here. We walked in and were greeted by an unfriendly hostess. She led us to an undesirable table, so we requested for a more preferred spot. She looked around and said "well, then you'll have to wait a bit." Told us to wait while she checked with someone else, considering MORE THAN HALF of the restaurant is empty (check with who???). Anyway, 5 mins gone by and ended up a waiter came to us and asked if we've been helped. Curious to what happened to the hostess at this point. Joon our server brought us to our preferred spot instead. This is where I get really upset. Right as we sat down, that same hostess led another couple that came after us to the same section where we were. WHAT HAPPENED TO "let me ask someone and I'll be right back" ?!?!?!?! I really wanted to leave, but I voiced this to Joon and he immediately requested for the manager. After all her attempts to applogize, she offered appetizer or dessert (honestly at this point, she can offer my whole meal and I wouldn't be very happy). Joon really was the saving factor at this moment. His sincerity and friendliness convinced us to stay. In my opinion, the host/hostess is the face of any food establishment. Your impression of him/her dictates how your dining experience will be. So hope they can work on this for us and all other future pattrons.

I went to eat here with restaurant.com coupon with my family. We order a few things off the menu and order 3-4 dishes of sashimi and specialty rolls. The waitress told us only gave us the the appetizers and combo dish from the menu and forget to add in the order for the rolls. So we have to wait a while to get all the food. I really like the steak from the combo dish and my family like the sashimi. As for the avocado and Mexican rolls that I ordered, the flavors are not as good as last time I ate here. Somehow it has a little sour taste to them. I probably come back for their happy hour to try different rolls or the combo steak dish but not the Mexican rolls again.

I love coming here....you really want a bang for your buck, try coming in around 8:30 or so and tell them you want to see the reverse happy hour menu....most of the rolls are 50% off, so are the drinks and appetizers (after 9 pm)...a damn good deal if you are running late for dinner. I always order the crab ball, this is a must...no rice, all real crab in an avocado ball topped with sesame seed...this is reason enough to come here! The salmon roll is kinda sad, especially when you compare it to what you get at Midori Sushi. The eel roll is amazing too. Love the dynamite roll too....service is pretty friendly. If you have to order one thing, let it be the crab ball...OMG, its heaven!

I used to love coming to this sushi restaurant up until this past Saturday. A lot has changed and I can't exactly say it's for the better. The quality just isn't as great as it used to be. Parking is at the structure across the street. Parking is only free for the first 90 minutes. Which if there is a long wait then you may end up paying for parking. So bring cash.

Okkkkay. I have never been here although I live blocks away and for my own luck's sake went here for lunch today. Ordered Vegas roll, rainbow roll, red dragon and spicy tuna rolls. The sushi did not taste bad, I have had better. BUT the key is that I had lunch at 1:00pm and now it's 8:30pm and I have been vomiting that sushi out non stop. Food poisoning? You can say that! I usually have a very strong and tolerating stomach but you know what, if I got the shits and vomits after eating here, I will most likely never come back. Makes me wonder how fresh their fish is and what else do they put in their rolls :(

I don't know why the reviews are as poor as they are but this place is amazing! Much better than Ichiban down the street. Although the Happy Hour menu changed a little (some items were removed and price went up a bit) this place is still my favorite local sushi joint! Quality of the sushi has varied from time to time but nonetheless still awesome!

This place is OK if you want standard sushi and live in Glendale. Just about every sushi item they serve (the special roles) are a mixer of spicy tuna and something else....very boring, very uncreative. The service is OK but sometimes I feel the workers are high school kids put to work by their parents. It's a Korean run establishment for sure and you can tell by their service and how they act. Japanese run places are just a notch above.

honestly, i went there for happy hour and the atmosphere was very good. the waiter was very attentive and the service was great! our server was so nice and the manager came by and made sure that we were doing okay. shes too hot to be a manager. the sushi chef david heo made the best rolls. my favorite was the waka waloo flame and the snow roll. so bomb! superb! i loveddd it! the music was also really good. a definite returning customer!!

what can I say I heard good reviews from friends nope none but hey it can be different for others right nope not here... so my sister and her bf treated me out to eat for a celebration. so we decided sushi! so it was 945p and atleast everyone in Glendale is close at 10 so we tried Octopus and we were happy for its happy hour and they close at 11. big mistake. our waiter took forever and whenever we tried to call them over they dont hear us even when the whole table is waving at them too. the food was ok. we ask the waiter if the tempura was cook in the same oil as the shrimp he said no but when we ask the server girl she was like yes it is. (my sister is allergic to shrimp no worries she just got a tingling mouth) wait time for the food was terrible not worth the wait. for two pieces of salmon skin for $9 not a good price. thats a happy hour price. so closing time the head told us to leave i said give me a secs to finish my drink and he counted the seconds. we spent $70 for nothing. bad service. all the way through. 1 star for nothing and an ok sour apple.

I decided to try Octopus in Glendale because of a coupon I found on restaurant.com for $50 off a $100 purchase. First off, the waitress explained the exceptions of the coupon, which was perhaps the nicest thing she did all evening. Even though she was very nice, restaurant policy stated that all sushi would be full price (despite all sushi being half off on the menu 100% of the time, including non-happy hour times). Of course, it's a bit annoying to pay for a coupon that is basically worthless, but I figures we would still get a discount off of specialty items and drinks. We order some drinks and when the waitress came to take our order we went over it. First, they didn't have fatty tuna, even though it was on the specials menu. Our waitress mentioned that they don't always have everything on the menu, which, as a regular sushi patron, I understand. However, this was on the "Specials" menu, and it seemed to me that they should either change their specials if they don't have those items, or at least mention that they don't have 2 of the 6 items on the specials menu when we sit down. Of the sushi/sashimi we ordered, they did not have the fatty tuna, the scallop, or the uni. Okay, so we shall just go with what we ordered, which was very little after that. We would just order a second round after that came. As an accomodation, because they didn't have half of what we wanted, the waitress brought us some edamame. When the sushi came, it was very good. Not the best I've ever had, but everything was very well prepared and fresh, especially the spicy albacore. Then, our waitress disappeared without telling us. I guess her shift ended, but we never saw her again, and had to flag down someone after perhaps 10 minutes of waiting. When we finally did, we asked for another sushi menu, and were given one quickly. That said, no one came to our table for another 15 minutes, and I had to signal to the hostess that we wanted the check (we weren't going to deal with any more of this service). When we were given the check, the waitress charged us full price for our sushi (ostensibly because we had shown our coupon, though we didn't spend $100 because 1. They didn't have what we'd ordered at first, and 2. They didn't come and take our additional order. We asked for an adjustment, and were given one in a few more minutes. Ultimately, myself and my friend went out for sushi, fully planning on spending more than $100, and ended up spending about $40. We wanted to spend more, we practically begged them to give us the chance, and we failed. While the sushi was fine, the service was absolutely terrible. The restaurant.com coupon was meaningless, not only because we didn't use it, but also because they just double the price for coupon users. I left so hungry that I went home and ordered a pizza. That's not a satisfying way to spend money on dinner out. My recommendation: DO NOT EAT HERE. Go down to Los Feliz (maybe 8 minutes away), and eat at Kuma, which is very good. This place is garbage.

When you come to Octopus you have to know what to order. Their sushi isn't the best in the world but their bento boxes are incredibly cheap and delicious. The bento boxes are really big and difficult for most people to eat by themselves. The side salad that comes with the meal is probably the best tasting salad I've ever had. For the price, the bento boxes are a major hit. Always make sure to wash your meal down with a nice Asahi.

Ok so i have to say i've been to this place a couple times... and honestly their alright. The service was pretty friendly, but they weren't up to par for me. I defintely loved to feel welcomed when you come into the store. Although they all say hi to you, it just seems like a routine and they have to do that kind of thing. Now on to their food... I like their food, but definitely isn't the best sushi around. I've tried a couple of their rolls before and honestly i and a couple of friends liked it but didn't love it. Of course you can definitely get better sushi somewhere else.. and their sushi's are more amercanized. Although i did like their spicy tuna salad. i have to say it was very flavorful and spicy (hence SPICY tuna salad riiighhht? -___- ) anyways i also like their calamari. Their foods overall are pretty alright, and their service is ok. So that's why i only gave them 3 stars. Also i happen to find the food a bit pricey comparent to the places i've been too. Especially since some of the places i've been too have good sushi for a reasonable price. OHH also i do have to agree with the people it definitely is a nice looking place, and they keep it pretty well clean. That's definitely important cuz i've seen some restrooms at sushi places, and i lose my apetite.

Preface: I don't get special rolls or combo meals very often, so this revue is mostly based on nigiri sushi. This is one of my favorite go-to places for sushi that's fresh & low-cost. I frequent the place at least twice a month. All the nigiri are 1/2 priced & they even have a reverse happy hour, which is as tasty as it is easy on the pocket. I marvel at how they are able to keep the nigiri at such a low cost when the quality of their yellowtail, salmon, tuna, & salmon roe are comparable (and in some cases better) than any overpriced Hollywood sushi joint (Katana, Katsuya, Geisha house). And, I've found their staff to be very polite & they even throw in miso soup or edamame for me on the house. Verdict: this is a no-thrills-family-oriented-casual-dress sushi place If you want thrills & flashing lights & crazy rolls, go to Hollywood. But if you want to chill with some sake & good quality fish, save some money & grab a seat here. Tips: ~faster service when you sit at the sushi bar ~don't pass up the White Tuna & Seared Ahi Tuna nigiri ~1/2 price discount for nigiri is NOT applicable to take out

Not bad. Very standard. Nothing new or eye-opening. Come during happy hour (3-6p) or reverse happy hour (8:30-close) for cheaper sushi and appetizers. I do like their decor. Much cuter than Ichiban down the street. Music was nice, calm, and blended into the background, unlike the overpowering KIIS FM music they play at Ichiban. Service was not bad. We were greeted by the chefs upon entry. The food did not take long to get to our table. The server did lag a bit on giving me a refill on my hot tea though.

This place turned out to be a great lunch decision! We were afraid it might be way over priced for sushi during lunch time, but they had a great lunch menu and great pricing for lunch. The salmon sushi was fantastic! But it was only two pieces. It turned out to be a great appetizer to the other two rolls I ordered (8 pieces each). Unfortunately the other rolls didn't taste as fresh, although they were still good. I would say the taste was similar to most other places I had eaten sushi at. I guess I had a bit higher expectations. The restaurant was nice. Nothing special other than a really cool pond built in the middle of the restaurant. Overall, I definitely recommend this place and would go back.

"KONICHIWAAAAAAAAAA!" im not really sure if that's what the servers said.. but it's something japanese.. everytime someone greets me in a different language and i dont understand.. i wish they come with subtitles.. oh well.. mm the food is defintly yummmy. DYNAMITE ROLL is my #1 ! it's basically your plain california roll with Baked SCALLOPPSS and OTHER MOUTH WATERING GOODNESS on top! eek. the miso soup was a little to salty for my taste! but i didnt go for the miso.. so i didnt really care. green tea drink was good. but the green tea tempura ice cream.. umm not a fan. black dragon roll is my #2! mmm the eel sauce on top . so good. i always leave the place happy & satisfied. it's not cheap but it's not that expensive either.. not special or amazing about the service or the place itself. they were nice & friendly.. & THE FOOD IS GREAT. i have no complains

Usually, I am weary of fusion places but this restaurant had pleasantly surprised me with its fresh selection of fishes (salmon sashimi melts in your mouth) and interesting flavors (Spanish Mackerel was both tangy and delicious). The cream cheese in the Philadelphia roll was generous and my entree of Udon with Tempura Shrimp and Vegetable was plentiful and soothing. Another selection was Unagi (eel) sushi which crumbled delectably (not too sweet) in my......mouth, duh. My friends took advantage of the 2-3 combo meals (may I suggest Sesame Chicken - dry, not wet) which came with both soup and salad. Since you read this far, may I offer another tip: The closest parking lot is directly across the street from this establishment and offers 90-mins free parking. Bon appetit!

Based on my experience i'm suprised by all the bad reviews. However we only ordered 3 sushi rolls and they were all really really yummy and fresh. Like, so good i'm definitely going back and ordering the exact same thing. I only gave the place 4 stars because we didn't try many things and the service was on the slow side but not horrendous. Tropical roll - this is not on the menu but I really loved it. Spicy tuna, mango and I forget what else. Lakers roll - amazing. Covered in yummy grilled onions. Yum yum yum. If you like jalepeno poppers u will like this. Sumo roll - very good but fairly basic roll.

Living on Glendale there is a lot of Sushi to choose from and all have there own spin.I grown to appreciate Octopus more and more. The Bento lunch specials are affordable and really yummy with a lot of different combo's. I especially like the sauce tray that comes with them.It is a nice to added touch and adds flavor to my meals. The reverse happy hour is a great value.Yes I do go there for all the specials but it affords me to really chow down. The servers are nice and efficient but can be on the slow side. Sushi should be more of a dining experience so I don't mind.It tends to always be on the quiet side so if you are looking for an upbeat Sushi experience, this may not be for you.Low key is definitely the feel here.Overall a real value and the quality and presentation is way above average.

FOOD IS OKAY SERVICE DESERVES NO TIP. I was really ready to storm out of there. we have been regulars at this place but the quality and service has just spiraled down. Food: you get a lot of sushi for what you pay for. but i wanted to walk out the last time i ate there. the quality of the fish is terrible when you bite it, you know the fish is not fresh cuz it wont break in half when you bite it you have to chew the stringy fish. the sushi rice was TERRIBLE! i mean we would pick up the sushi with our chop stick and it would literally fall apart. not much care was given into making it. ordered the dynamite roll. the presentation of the roll looked like it came out of the dump seriously. the scallops were raw and i had to send it back. Service: we sat at the bar, but was not offered water nothing. took us 20 mins to get someones attention to get water. the sushi chefs behind the bar seemed to have been in a sour mood. and really when you sit at a sushi bar you want to indulge in their sushi making but the chef looked pissed off and didnt give a shit about us. didnt say hi no acknowledgement of our existence at the bar. We are heavy eaters and we ordered a lot of sushi. we got our first batch of sushi. and we realised after 20 minutes no one was making our sushi! and we had to call the sushi chef and he had to call another sushi chef to see where our order went. it was ridiculous. im really sad to say but we are NEVER GOING BACK. we were regulars and realy wish our business was valued to them. but yea never going back.

Sushi has never been very high on my food list. I can appreciate it, but never really crave it. However, I always find myself coming back here. It has a nice atmosphere, not to classy but by no means a dive. Happy hour 4-7 and reverse happy hour after 9 are great times to go. We ordered the Caterpillar rolls (which i highly recommend), Mexican rolls (not so much), and California rolls with smoked salmon (not bad), a large order of the house sake and 2 large beers. Everything was only $30, not to bad eh? All in all I would say if you're in the area, check it out if you're feeling sushi.

Okay - I'll start right off the bat by saying I've never actually had any sushi here, so i can't actually make any first hand comments about that, but I've been ordering their cooked food for a while now, and have yet to be disappointed! Stick to the sesame chicken, and I promise you won't be let down! I'm a fan of the restaurant as a whole - friendly servers, clean atmosphere, and not too crazy prices. It's a good go-to when you're just looking for a relatively quick meal of japanese food without crazy expensive sushi bar prices. Definitely suggest it to all of you...for the cooked food at least...

Normally Japanese restaurants aren't in my menu of likings, but after I went to Octopus, I learned why people pay as much as they do for Japanese food! And on top of that, the Japanese food here isn't even expensive! They have an amazing 3-6 happy hour. I've decided to bring my picky cousins as my taste testers as well the next week and they loved it. I'll definitely be returning to Octopus!

I think a good restaurant's formula for success should be: Good Food Good Staff Good Service This restaurant only had good food and that's about it. Our server forgot some of orders the first time around and then the Sushi Chef lost our sushi ticket 3 times which meant we had to wait for an hour for some sushi. I was supposed to give it one star but the manager gave us 2 small bottles of sake for free so I guess that merits for another star. Suffice to say, I'm never coming back.

3 stars for food - 5 stars for service! Came in for lunch with my friend on an early Saturday. We asked to sit at one of the booths as the restaurant was pretty empty. The restaurant decor is warm with a modern vibe. Our waitress came immediately to give us the menu and take our drink order. She came back a few minutes later to take our lunch order. We both had the 3-item combo lunch. I had: - Teriyaki salmon - pretty bland and dry. I prefer the salmon with the skin too and this one didn't have it. - Sashimi - they were fresh but didn't have much flavor. It was alright. - Shrimp and veggie tempura. Shrimp batter was a little thicker than the veggie ones but they were good along with the tempura sauce. I liked that they give a small cup of rice so I don't feel wasteful when I don't eat it all. The miso soup was fine; loved the salad in the cup drenched on the bottom with dressing that was totally yummy. They also give this trio of sauces: house mayo and a cilantro/japaleno sauce (both delish), and a typical teriyaki sauce along with the ginger and wasabi. Had a taste of my friend's California roll which our waitress said was made with real crab but it was a bit bland. Overall the food was a bit bland but maybe it's because it's catering to local tastes? Service was fantastic though. I asked the waitress whether the mayo sauce was the same as the salad dressing because I wanted to see if they sell them to go. She said they were different but asked me if I wanted to have some to go although they don't sell them. So I said yes please. She was so cool, she actually gave me both of them in quite large containers. I think half a cup each. Because of the fantastic service, I gave a big tip and would return just so that I can eat any food with the sauces.

I don't like this place that much. The seats we got were dirty.. The fabric on their seats had nasty stains. My nigiris were warm and my fishies were oddly textured. and their beef yakisoba.. it's not good but it's not bad.. it's weird. save me from these nightmares! *faints*

I looked at the previous reviews, and we figured that it is worth a shot. I also spotted a $25 certificate from restaurant.com , so the deal was sealed. When we arrived, we asked the server what it can be applied to. She told us that it is good for anything but 1/2 off sushi and rolls. We ordered some sushi, appetizers and a salad. The food was so-so. Not too terrible, but just not exciting or flavorful. The ambiance in this place is terrible, it felt like we went to Olive Garden or something. When the bill came, they told us that since we ordered 4 pieces of 1/2 off sushi, the $25 could not be applied! I tried to argue with them, but the waitress was rude, and actually wanted to confiscate the certificate since we were "not abiding by the restaurant rules"! Needless to say, we left to never come back there.

I came here for dinner with my wife and family. We ordered tofu salad for appetizers and the dish looked nothing like what the menu stated. We told the waitress that the dish looked nothing like the description in the menu and she stated they had made some changes a few months ago in the menu. I'm thinking to myself if changes were done to the menu a few months ago, how long does it take for you to update your menu? They came back with another tofu salad per our request but it looked completely different and tasted terrible. We also ordered sushi and it was not fresh. Overall, the service was below average and sushi not worth coming here to eat. I won't come back to this place anytime soon.

I come here from time to time to have a nice sushi dinner. I love the atmosphere, the staff are very nice, mellow environment, and the food's always good. They have happy hour for from I think 3-6 and then from 8-11 or whenever they close which is cool.I highly recommend the red bean fried ice cream for dessert, you'll love it!

i came here today, a Friday at lunch after my coworker suggested it saying that it had fresh sushi and huge portions for a cheap price.. I was extremely skeptical given that cheap and sushi don't generally go together and neither does white coworker and good judge of quality sushi. Nonetheless... I decided to check it out and see what the fuss was about. Surprisingly, when I first entered the restaurant at 12:15 PM there were barely any people. We seated ourselves by the bar and started our meal with a beer. For japanese beers they had Kirin Sapporo and Asahi if I remember correctly. I think 2 or 3 bucks per bottle not bad at all. We ordered the lunch specials because it was supposed to be a great deal. for 9 -10 bucks you really do get a full meal. I had their sashimi, chicken teriyaki, and gyoza. Everything was delicious except for their gyoza. Over fried and just not good.. I was surprised at how relatively freshly tasting and well cut their sashimi was. The atmosphere is kind of like a Wokcano.. very chill great place to just talk and be reasonably loud. By the time we were done with our meal.. the restaurant was full and there was a small line waiting. So I suggest you come earlier to avoid the traffic and I will defintiely be coming back.

Live review: 7:40pm Entered restaurant (no greeting - but I don't really care) 7:50pm Placed order. 7:53pm Edamame served - unsalted! UH! 7:54pm Observing surroundings - totally different from Burbank Octopus - less dance-clubbish - less trendy, more natural, home feel & less pretentious. Music is way better - instrumental beats. 7:58pm - This place is empty. I'm scared. 8:11pm - Still waiting on our food. At least they are getting me refills. 2 bro's got here after us & were served and have finished eating already. 8:12pm - My friends ordered large bottles of Kirin. They're out of them. 8:17pm - Our food arrived!!! 8:21pm - The sushi is pretty identical to Burbank, maybe slightly better. 8:28pm - I'm satisfied. Not amazing, but the price to quality ratio is great. 8:40pm - The staff is boring. This place is kinda boring - but I don't mind. It's just neutral. Neither here, nor there. 8:51pm - This place is dead. 8:58pm - Exiting restaurant - they say nothing! Wow. That's a first for a sushi place. No!! Thank YOU!!! I think it sounded worse than it was. It wasn't that bad. I'd go back. Time to head to Americana for coffee.

Horrible. I went there with a my goddaughter who is 5 and loves sushi. We ordered a few rolls that took over 40 minutes to make. So I ordered her some tofu because she was crying of hunger and asked the waitress to please hurry. She brings out room temperature sashimi which is a huge health violation. I sat there for another 40 minutes waiting for my salmon roll. Finally I called over our waitress and asked where is our salmon roll and she said she already gave it to me. I had to show her the number of plates on our table and had to convince her she did not give us our salmon roll. Then when she did finally bring it over, it was room temperature and very sloppy. I had to walk up to the register to get the bill. Horrible food, horrible customer service. Make the drive to the Burbank location. This location is no good.

The food is pretty good for a Japanese place but not amazing. There was something about the sashimi that made it seem not as fresh, it was a little gooey. The sushi roll was good. I'd go back again armed with another restaurants.com coupon.

I've never written a review before here on yelp. I only use yelp as a reference when I want to be bold and try something new. The reason why I'm writing this is because I want to warn anyone who even thinks about eating at this restaurant!!! DO NOTTT COME HERE! The place looks pretty nice. Not exactly fine dining but the place is clean and decorated. The food, however, is terrible. I understand that at cheap prices you cannot give fresh top of the line sashimi but not only was the salmon a thin poorly cut slice, it was discolored and it wasn't even stuck to the rice... I think even old plates of sashimi at the supermarket tasted better! Okay, aside from the food now. The main reason I wrote this review is because of the service! This lady with short hair (possibly manager because she didn't have a name tag on) is the most rude employee I've ever met. I came in with a big group and we all had to go to the cashier to make our payment, the check didn't even come to us -___- (not to mention they automatically charged gratuity for such terrible service). When the worker/manager was trying to get through us, she SHOVED US! Didn't even say excuse me or sorry. My friend was holding her balloons and it was covering some of the light and the worker actually said "You're covering the light" with the meanest facial expression ever. HELLO!?!? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SAY PLEASE?!? The worst thing is my other friend was in a hurry to leave and politely asked for her change. Not only did the worker say "You have a big party I need to take care of other things first" but when she was done she THREW the change at my friend. My friend was so mad she just left and afterwards realized that the change was short a couple of dollars. SHE REALLY NEEDS TO BE FIRED! I understand when things get hectic, people tend to be in bad moods but if you're an employee at a Japanese restaurant, you MUST have manners! Even the little Japanese shack near my house is filled with polite staff! I HATE THIS PLACE x12948102348

Should I even waste the time complaining about this place? Sure, why not. I'll spare a couple minutes. Browned edamame? Really? Even if they are complimentary, can't you serve some that are kind of green? Not only was the raw tuna in my salad not properly deboned, but it also had that old fishy taste. They probably forgot to toss it in the "mince to make spicy tuna" bucket. And what I had wasn't a salad. It was a bowl of dressing with lettuce and pieces of fish floating about. I literally poured the excess dressing into my water cup for them to see. Absolutely ridiculous. The whole experience was not even worth 1/4th of the total bill. Thanks a lot. I really appreciated that little piece of fish bone piercing the side of my mouth.

Bad food + high prices + terrible service = the worst meal out I've had in probably over a year. Please don't go here - there is such better food in the area.

The food here is ok. They recently (11/2008) changed the menu, they no longer have boats. I really wanted a boat, so I was very disappointed. But later, I got to thinking.... how the heck do restaurants clean the boats? They're wooden and varnished, it ain't going to make it thru that steam dishwasher thingy like in Rataouille. Does this mean they don't clean then? A gazillion people have been eating out of those things!

I have to admit that the name "Octopus Fusion" did not attract me to this place. However, I decided to give it a try when my friend wanted to eat Japanese food in Glendale. I was left with limited options since the other Japanese restaurant closed. Off to Octopus we went! Upon entering, I immediately noticed the high ceilings, fountain, sushi bar, and large dining space. I was surprised by the large space. It looked small from the outside. Our waitress was great and she sat us right next to the fountain. For about 12.99, you can get two meal options with rice, salad, miso soup, and orange. Let me tell you..the two meal options is enough! If you have a big appetite, you can choose to have one more for a couple more dollars. Their lunch prices go down to about $8-$9 for the same type of food. I personally like the california roll, salmon/chicken/steak teriyaki, fried dumplings, vegetable/shrimp tempuras, and chicken cutlet. Their salad is good too.

Sushi was decent. Rolls were coming apart. Service was slow even though there was only 3 tables taken. The server Kevin never came back to our table after dropping off food. Quite dissatisfied!

My friend told me of this place awhile back. Im very picky with the sushi restaurants because only a handful of them have met my expectations, but when i went to this place a few nights ago, i immediately became a huge fan. The atmosphere was very chill, relaxing and welcoming. Friendly waitress and server were eager to greet me and my girlfriend. Despite the superb service, the taste and freshness of the fish were fantastic! David, my sushi chef of the night served not only the finest fish i have yet to taste, but his friendliness and constant ability to make us laugh and enjoy our stay made us not want to leave! On top of that all the Sushi that he recommended tasted absolutely amazing! Where did you find this guy? And where have i been? Thanks to David, my girlfriend and i had an unforgettable night, and you can bet that we will be returning to this place again and again. If you ever visit this place and David happens to be working behind the sushi bar, dont sit at the table! Sit at the bar right in front of him, and i guarantee that you and whomever you are with will have the best experience a sushi restaurant has to offer! Highly recommended!!!

At a placed called Octopus, you'd think they served OCTOPUS!!!! So I came here on a Saturday evening with two friends after watching "Wristcutters" (Great movie btw). We arrive and were seated prompty. The venue is of Japanese style but with a tint of traditional blended into it. Also the place is pretty big, and damned clean and fresh inside. So we sit and all three of us are ever so damn hungry start off by ordering 2 bottles of Sake. Yes because we are all alcoholics. THEN we order the fresh Oyster shooters, 6-7 different rolls and the Fried Gyoza to start with. After about an hour of defining the word "gluttony" we were finally full and asked for the check. To my hella surprise, our total came up to $135.00. I mean, Jesus, that is HELLA HECKA good for three people who eat like pigs, 6-7 rolls, Fried Gyoza, Oyster shooters, and about 5 bottles of Sake and our regular drinks. To top it off of course the food was phenomenal. The slices of sushi we received were sized very well and an explosion of flavor erupted from the rolls we ordered. A great place for some delicious fresh sushi, delicious hot sake, hot chicks and well priced menu, Octopus is the way to go. You WONT be disappointed. **OH I FORGOT TO MENTION! THEY VALIDATE! LOL**

now i'm no fool, i've had my share or maybe more of sushi restaurants and have to say this spot is delicious. now before you stop reading this review and head over to the overpriced Todai down the street, lemme give you a breakdown of Octopus... i went here with two buddies of mine for lunch and we were seated very promptly. we ordered around 12 orders of different sushi, 3 rolls, and tempura. edamame was brought to us as an appetizer as we waited for our food. unfortunately the dumb waiter forgot our miso soup. nevertheless, our orders came in a bit and the presentation was nice. the salmon and tuna were sooo good and very very tender and they were also cut in generous portions. one word of advice i have to say is stay away from the scallop roll. the taste was a bit off and i got sick from it later on. another point of criticism is that our waiter didn't bother refilling our drinks and we had to flag him down to do so. our bill was actually not to bad and came out to ~$93 for three people considering we ordered like half the menu, lol jk. i was surprised that we saved over $30 because the sushi was half priced. nice! all in all a great place to go for sushi and beats Todai into a bloody pulp and calls it names when it comes to freshness of the sushi. the place takes most major credit cards (no Discover) and they also validate, so make sure you give them your parking thingy when you're paying your bill. and on a side note, my friends and i watched 'Vantage Point' at the Mann Theaters down the block after we ate here. excellent movie that shows different perspectives of an assassination. B+

went there 2 weeks ago for the first time, didn't expect much. But once I went in, there were cute waitresses everywhere. I went there for happy hour which is from 3 to 6. They had really good rolls. I like the alaskan roll the best. But what really seperates this place from the rest, other than the cute waitresses, was the service. Dont remember her name but she reccomended some great rolls that my buddies liked. She always made sure our drinks were topped off. I would for sure come back, but this time with a hair cut so I can ask that one waitress out!!!

I came to this place on a whim because I was really craving some sushi. Their lunch special is a really good deal, the sushi is about half their regular dinner prices. The decor is very clean, spacious and modern. The servers are very friendly and accommodating. As for the food itself, at $11.95 I ordered their sushi and sashimi combination which had three slices of salmon sashimi, 2 hamachi sushi, 1 ebi/shrimp sushi, 1 tuna sushi, and 6 pieces of California roll. Their cuts of fish are very thick and generous and the thin slices of raw onion and mini fish eggs complimented the hamachi really well. In addition to my meal, I got a very flavorful tropical iced tea (though unsweetened), a small cup of miso soup and complimentary edamame. Only two gripes about this place: their sushi rice isn't very flavorful as previously mentioned by Christine L. and doesn't do the job of complimenting the fish. Their miso soup also doesn't have a very good helping of soft tofu or seaweed. However, it is miso packed making it very flavorful and it was very hot, just how I like it. Overall, it is worth coming to this place for lunch, if you would like to sit down for Japanese outside the mall's food court.

Octopus is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. Why? Because they have my favorite fish, white tuna (a MUST try), a great happy hour, and awesome service! I went there for my friend's birthday on a Tuesday night, and we had a blast! The sushi chefs David and Jun were more than happy to take shots with us and hook us up with delicious creations. Our server Hannah was a sweetheart and was quick to bring us whatever we needed, even bringing my friend some bday ice cream. It felt like we were hanging out with friends, not at a restaurant. Must try: White Tuna, Hot Roll, Fried Shrimp with Jalapeno sauce.

Well, I went here last night for the 2nd time, and definitely the LAST time. It's a Korean-owned and operated Japanese restaurant...don't think there's a single Japanese person working there...but hey, as long as the food is okay, who cares, right? Well the food is okay, but that's it. Nothing to write home about. But the service? Horrendous, which is why I'll never go there again. Walked in last night at about 7pm by myself, with my friend on the way to join me. It should be a prime dinner time business hour, but the place was almost empty, except for a young couple sitting in a booth, a family sitting at a table, and a couple people seated at the sushi bar. I see a nice booth next to a window so I ask the hostess if I can sit there. She starts leading me there, then suddenly, does an abrupt about-face and starts leading me to another table. I asked her what she was doing. She abruptly replies that I can't sit at that particular empty booth. I asked why not. She says it's been reserved. At this point, I'm about to laugh. The restaurant is almost empty! So I look at a guy who looks like he's the head waiter or a host and I ask him what the big deal is. He then says something to the girl in Korean, and she tells me she has to go into the kitchen and ask her manager. I'm utterly dumbfounded at this point. They are turning this non-event into some sort of major issue that requires discussion with their manager? I hold my temper and tell her alright. She disappears into the kitchen, leaving me standing there. Several minutes go by, and she doesn't come back out. At this point, I've had enough. I tell the head waiter that this is ridiculous, that they are making me wait to see if I can get permission to sit at a particular booth, when the freaking restaurant is like virtually empty! I start to walk out and tell him that I'm just going to meet my friend elsewhere. He gives me this dumb blank stare and doesn't say anything...no apology, nothing. As I walk out the door, I notice that the girl finally comes back out of the kitchen, but at that point, I simply didn't care anymore. I wait out in front of the restaurant until my friend arrives. I tell him what happened, he laughs, and we end up having a great dinner down the street at Zono Sushi...a MUCH better choice for both food and service. Good food is important when dining out, but good service is just as important, so in this respect, I'd give Octopus in Glendale zero stars if I could.

Probably not the most amazing sushi experience you will ever have, but the food is tasty, the price is right, the staff is friendly, and the room is pleasant. The menu is fusion-y, with lots of novelty rolls and so forth. We always get the sesame-seaweed salad, which is usually great but on my last visit it was full of ice crystals, making for kind of an icky texture. The sushi is good -- very good, for the price. They use real crab in the California rolls, which is a huge plus for me! They bring out a little selection of dipping sauces with your sushi order, which is a nice touch. I haven't tried the garlic-butter edamame yet, but how can that NOT be good? If you live pretty much anywhere in Glendale, this is a very easy and fun place to bike to for dinner, and there's a bike rack in the garage across Maryland, right inside the south entrance.

Avoid this Place!!! This place was awful! My friend and I ordered the sushi because it was half off. The Salmon and Red Snapper had thick, ugly fish skin still on the sushi piece. Even though I had never seen that before, I decided to try the sushi. The skin was tough and hard to chew. Finally, we asked the waiter if they could cut off the skin which he gladly took back. When we finally got it back, the sushi tasted extremely fishy and almost tough. The service was terrible as well. They mixed up our order and we asked for more ginger and asked for our drinks to be refilled and they finally came by to fill our glasses and give us our ginger after our meal was over 30 minutes later. What I learned from this experience is don't trust a sushi restaurant owned by non-Japanese!

From my experience the place is great!!! i go there whenever i can! love the chefs specials rolls~ my favorites are the tiger roll and H.O.T. they also have awsome combination deals!! I almost never wait to be seated, and on a busy night, the wait list is not long either... They have a happy hour menu (from 3p to 6p) and a reverse happy hour (from 8:30p to close) and they are really amazing deals!!! definely stop by if you like happy hours~!!! Service is great and the ambient is cozy... definetely try it out if your looking for a decent fusion style sushi in glendale!! its right by teh americana and glendale mall :) plus free parking for 90minutes!!!

This restaurant has very good food and really good prices compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area. The luncheon specials for around $10 are so big that you can get 2 meals out of them. The sushi is delicious, always very fresh. Parking in the building across the street is free for 90 minutes. Give it a try; you won't regret it.

this place is ok, reasonable prices and the food is not bad. what i like about this place is that they are consistent. I been there many times and they never make it better or worse, I guess it's a good thing. if you live in Glendale and don't feel like driving much, this will do

Every time I have popped in here I have always ordered a gang of sushi, almost as if I had to have a taste of every thing. And aside from the Philadelphia Roll, everything was exceptionally good. Unfortunately, I can't go here anymore because of an incident that occurred a couple years ago that left with my family causing a scene over the slow service and forgetting orders. If I could go here again, then I would probably give this place four stars.

I'll say this much, this place is okay if you stick to the simple stuff. DO NOT order an entree. The chef has no clue how to cook. I have never returned something twice in my life until I came here. I really don't think restaurants should serve dishes they are unable to prepare properly. It's a waste of food! Speaking of the simple stuff... It might be pretty good but you'll wait forever before you get to try it. We ordered 2 rolls and waited for over a half hour. And yes, there is a creepy sushi chef that stares at you while you're eating. What's up with that?? ... I forgot to mention. Apparently, you only get the 1/2 off sushi if you order at least 3. That's no biggy except it says that no where on the menu! I guess one could say that's sort of illegal. Just saying...

Not mentioned in other reviews I read are two very positive things - HAPPY HOUR - they have a great happy hour (ends at 6 pm, however) w/ lots of great, cheap offerings. PRESENTATION - one of the best presentations for sushi restaurant. EDAMAME - Amazing garlic, buttery, warmed edamame - very creative!

Driest sushi I have ever had. It smelled, too. Not a kind of spoiled smell but one of those "other food' smells which may have resulted from improperly storing fish [with other food]. Either way, I don't know which smell is worse. Well, the latter would at least not make you sick. So, I did not get sick, but the memory of the smell still stays with me. What is a trip about this place is their horrendous service. I am referring to a particular waiter who served us, so maybe it is unfair for me to criticize their whole staff. Do I want to go back to find out if others are better? NO! Why open a restaurant to treat people like this?

Aaaaaaahhh Yelp. Why have I only used your precious information recently? If I had only known, I could have avoided so many sad left-overs and tummy aches...like my most recent experience at Octopus in Glendale, CA. Located near a couple of movie theatres and several yogurt / ice cream shops, Octopus is a great place for inexpensive and pretty good sushi and rolls before your movie. I don't frequent this place anymore, but I used to have favorites which included the Sensual Pleasure roll (not sure if it's still on the menu) and the Seared Garlic Tuna sushi. YUM YUM! Two or three years ago, I had a birthday get-together here, and as far as I recall - we all enjoyed the rolls and sushi. HOWEVER, I've read other reviews, and it sounds like maybe the quality of their fish has gone down since, which kind of supports my following critique: Now I'm the type who usually orders same thing over and over again, but since I'm trying to change and felt a little daring...I decided to try something new. And I've gotta say - it's not the best place to be daring. The 2-combo salmon teriyaki and tempura caught my eye on the menu, but it looked horrible on the plate. The salmon was overcooked, and looked pale. It had none of the healthy pink hue of salmon... indicating that the fish was not fresh. The teriyaki sauce did little to hide all that was lacking in the salmon. The first bite was for taste, the second was for measure and that was it! It was sent back. I asked for pork cutlet as its' replacement, and unfortunately, it didn't rate much higher. It was dry, and almost painful to chew. The tempura was nothing to write home about either; by the time it reached me, it was cold, and oily. Friends in attendance, however, ordered the sesame chicken and gyoza which they seemed to enjoy...perhaps I should have followed suit? But! lesson learned - I should stick to what I know when it comes to this place. Although, again - not sure if that's even good anymore based on what others have said... The rating I gave is for memories of past experiences (4), minus (2) the last experience which ended in a stomach ache.

sad to say, but the last 2 times I've been here the sushi has been prettty bad. I feel bad writing this review because the manager was so apologetic and took 20 bucks off of our bill. But the sushi has really gone downhill. It used to be a great place to duck into for a quick sushi dinner, but not now. The fish tastes old, the service is slow and some of the sushi roll combos are terrible. I hope they get their service and food back up to where it used to be, because right now it's depressing.

i loved this place i really loved this place but now i can't love it anymore i'd be going against my family if i did, the place was amazing and had the best salad with savory sushi but three years ago on mother's day they definitely dropped the ball big time by lagging on the food and screwing up the order maybe one of these days, i'll pop my head in there once again

one of my favorite sushi places! it COULD get a bit pricey if you order a lot of rolls, but those are the good ones..haha :) Some of my favorites are: black dragon mexican roll H.O.T. roll sensual pleasure (MY FAVORITE) and there's so much more! You should ask the waiter for the special rolls. The service is good, but sometimes when they're busy the food takes a long time! overall, i love this place.

this happend last week...(i have photos) I hope I dont git lynched for writing this,...BUT I found a Pube deep fried along with the sesame chicken in our food! To think I used to frequent this place 3-4 times a week since 06' when I worked in Glendale, but the quality has gone down the shitter! Literally 1st The Good, 5* for the sushi guys cause they'll have a drink with ya! and by drink, bottles of sake and by sake, I mean more beer and u know what that means- time for a fukcin' hang over. The employee turn around was quite high over the years, but thanks to these guys I never had to drink alone! The quality of fish has suffered though, a few of my favorite sushi men have gone to open their own or went off to do better things, but that's for another review. The Bad, I hoped that the manager would come apologize but it was more like... "Here's your check and Oh, we didn't charge you for that" The tone was like she did me a favor. CRIPES! -3* WTF- it was a fucking long-ass PUBIC HAIR...half crispy like the chicken (i don't usually get this pissed off when i see STRAIGHT long black/brown hair in my food. I just have them take it back and order something else) but halfway through dinner- One can only question, What the fukc is in the Ponzu sauce then? ... and the Ugly, the face my server gave me when I complained about a fried pubic hair in the tempura. that lil brat just rolled her eyes- no apologies what so ever just... "oh well, lemme get the manager *Der" -5* How would you like it if I pissed in your corn flakes, biatch! _____________________________________________________- The thing that salvaged this night was the fact that the Sushi guy came out and apologized for what had happened,!!! +5* for his service and utmost hospitality That my friend was eff-in' cool- Thanks!

To make up for the bad service they have half off sushi on some days to draw people in. Now some people don't care if the service as bad as long as the food is cheap but i am not that type of person. I like my food yummy and my service attentive and friendly. The food here is good but the service kills any chances of me going back. I have been there a few times and every time the service was horrible. The waitress gets pissy if you ask her anything or even try to get their attention, I have even got few eye rolls from them. One day I brought my friend and the waitress also had some friends sitting in the table next to us. We had to complain to get her to take our order. She felt we were dragging her away from her friends to work so she had another server take our table which took another 10 mins to take our order. We felt so uncomfortable that we wanted to leave while she sat in the table next to us with her friends (possibly talking smack about us). Anyway, the food is cheap and it's pretty good with nice size portions but not worth the shotty service you might receive.

I went to Octopus on a Sunday, a Sunday afternoon! Now you fish o philes know what a mistake that is. No one brings in fresh fish after Saturday. The fish will be old, the flavour fair at best. I went with an old associate and she likes to meet over sushi so Octopus on a Sunday afternoon was it. Now I like my sushi unadorned, I do not need clever sauces or silly confused rolls filled with cream cheese or mayonaise to get in the way of my fish. So dear reader please understand I knew I was set up for disappointment. Just fish and rice...on a Sunday, what was I thinking?!! We ordered rolls and nigiri and they came well presented and simply garnished. Then the shock....the fish smelled fine! It was flavorful and fresh and really tasty!!! I ordered the grilled yellow tail collar (a real treat for people like me) expecting fish with the smell of catfood and the consistancy of library paste. It too shocked and amazed me...the fish was fresh, with a little char, and was toothsome and tasty. My friend commented on how tasty it was and we both just sat refusing to believe that we were not disaapointed. Now I cannot vouch for its everyday operations, this might have been a once in a lifetime occurance. But for a day when other Sushi places usually close...when the fish they offer is fair to middling at best...Octopus really put on a good show. I will go back during the week, just to see if they can get any better!

Came in supposedly 10 minutes before Happy Hour and was charged full price for our meal. We didnt start ordering our sushi till 3:10 but because we ordered our drinks they charged us full price for everything and wouldn't change it, the food quality was okay but I have had better, and way better service.

So during April of 2008 a friend and I came to eat lunch here, around 4pm. The restaurant was probably 20% full but we could hardly get any service. We had to look around for servers and raise our hands to get their attention. It also took about 30 minutes to get our appetizer, of veggie tempura. When we got it, they had snuck a shrimp in there. This sucked considering we're both vegan, and we sent it back. The sushi was pretty alright once we FINALLY got it... all together it took the two of us over an hour to get three veggie rolls and get out of there. I would never come back considering the totally lame service, sneak shrimp, and I was generally unimpressed.

You can't beat the reverse happy hour (8:30) - fresh sushi at good prices - great service.

I loved the food here. Especially the appetizers. I really enjoyed the seaweed salad and cold tofu with yuzu. I also had an alaskan roll and the mexican roll. The rolls were mediocre, nothing to special or comparable to other sushi restaurants I have been to. However, the service was splendid. Our waiter was extremely bubbly and nice. Only thing I would complain from my visit is that our waiter had a pink eye.. it made me feel uncomfortable.

It's average in flavor and presentation. Because there are tons of Japanese places to choose from locally, we would likely never return.

omg came here for happy hour after browsing @ glendale galleria - only sushi 1/2 price not sashimi which we ended still with a 20+ bill - long wait on sushi hello it's cold & doesnt take that long to make - very bad customer service - waiting for the bill for like 20+ mins wtf!

These guys were my go to choice in Glendale for a while...but it's just not been the same for the last year. I kept going back, trying to give them another chance, but I gave up...First off, the sushi chefs kept changing all the time, second, the quality of sushi was very, very inconsistent. Plus one day they give you edamame, another they don't and it has nothing to do with ordering alcohol. And trying to get a water refill is impossible...at the bar or at the table. So I started going to Ichiban and am very happy - the same sushi guys all the time, quality fish, great customer service. So for now, I'm done with Octopus.

This is one of my favorite sushi places around actually. Every time I've gone the sushi has been amazing and the prices are pretty rad. They have a nice selection of options, and combo plates are great too. I love Octopus Japanese Restaurant in Glendale. It rocks!

me and my boyfriend love sushi and Octopus has become our go to sushi resturant ...they have happy hour which always helps with the price but we've eaten there during when it wasnt happier hour so the price is still not as bad.... i like the decor and ambiance of the burbank location a lot more over here its kind of dead , which i dont mind so much but the staff can be tricky....we had the girl like bother us literally twice for our bill , it was a sunday night at around 10, so yea basically the food is prettty good and usually fresh , i have had a few bad experiences in between the too locations, and sometimes the portions vary like they will give you less at times which is wierd but if your in the area and want a sushi fix then you should definitely try them out

yet another "a-ok" sushi place. not the best, not the worst. we had spicy tuna roll, spicy tuna hand roll, green monster (i think thats what it was called, with roe, shrimp tempura and avocado) and yellowtail. everything was fresh and tasty. nothing tasted too fishy. service was forgettable but satisfactory. and i recall thinking it was rather inexpensive. im pretty sure it was under 30 dollars for all that, plus a big sapporo. half price sushi is their specialty! i will come back. probably for happy hour though.

Octopus is a great sushi restaurant in Glendale. The selection is extensive, the prices are great, and the atmosphere is pleasant.

The lunch special is a deal, but it doesn't taste that good. The local cheap sushi joint near where I go to school is much tastier than this place. However...this place is super cheap for the sheer quantity of food that is delivered. I mean to give this place a 3.5 and I went for the 3 instead of the 4 since this place has an overall 4.5 average which is definitely an inflated rating.

use to come here a lot. somehow the quality is just gone down. the bbq ribs are more fat that meat now, the sushi doesn't taste fresh, the hot food quality has gone down. i was so excited at first when it first opened, but now it's just a disappointment.

I LOVE this place... I usually get the lunch special, which is a pretty good price for all the food you get. It's $8.45 for 2 item combo, which includes two items, miso soup, salad, and rice. It's $9.45 for an extra item. I usually get the California roll, the shrimp and veggie tempura, or the salmon teriyaki. I love this place because even something as simple as a California roll is made so well that you don't even need to dip it in soy sauce to give it extra flavor -- it just tastes great on its own. And their specialty rolls are really great. None of the specific ones come to mind except for one that has scallops topped over it... I think it's a lobster roll, not sure. And last, but certainly not least, I LOVE LOVE LOVE their green tea ice cream fried ice cream. They dip a scoop of ice cream in cake batter, then tempura, and then they fry it... YUM.

A fan because the sushi here is cheap (2.50 on average) and its never not been fresh out of the 5 times I've been here and the pieces are decently thick, not skimpy like most. I'm a picky sushi eater and I have not been disappointed by this place; when spots with lower quality sushi charge $5+ for the same I can't rationalize going anywhere else in the area. Not the absolute best service ever, but not terrible from what I've experienced. I had sushi: salmon, yellow tail, tuna, albacore, and a spicy tuna roll with tempura/avocado/ & tuna on top -Garlic edamame was good too This place is gaining popularity so be a little cautious about what time you go. They seem to like under-staffing this place too so all the more reason to get there a little early.

the one star is for value. you get a lot of food for your money. but service was very slow and the restaurant was empty at 4pm. martinis didn't come til about 40 mins after ordering them. server kept delivering the wrong food items to our table. food came at inconsistent times, leaving a couple of ppl watching the rest of us eat as they waited. pork cutlet and sesame chicken were overly fried and dried out. octopus salad was flavorless and boring. so sad.

My girlfriend and I came here for sushi. We usually go to Ichiban (just a little further down the street), but we decided to give this a try. At first it was quite alright, but halfway through the meal I started to feel really nauseous and couldn't finish. My girlfriend thought it was okay, but nothing special. Also, it took way too long to get our sushi. Ichiban is much faster and tastier.

Love the place. Great food, great service. We walk for 15 min to get there at lunch and it worth walking!

The first time we ate here, the food was pretty decent. It was better than other places we had recently tried out. They had blue crab rolls which drew us in. The second time we went, the experience was awful. So, they seated us off in the corner and then we ordered and we got our sushi quickly. The blue crab rolls were terrible, they were very mushy and milky. it was very disgusting. As was the vegas roll. I had also ordered some soup and rice, and didn't see those items for about an hour. The service was terrible, the hostess was chatting with her friends all night and our waiter was no where to be seen. i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Stay away!

Avoid both my daughter and I got food poisoning from this place. My daughter loves salmon but may not be eating it again after two days of being sick.

Alright well i've been going to this restaurant a couple times in the past 4 months, and i must say they have some really good food, now the regular priced sushi that they have are actually really expensive for what you are getting, but if you go during the "Happy Hour" time then its a really good deal for some really good food because most of the specialty roles are like 5 bucks instead of 10 or so dollars, now in terms of customer service its pretty much mixed, some waiters are really nice and cool, some are kinda annoying but all in all the customer service is pretty good, i will continue to be going here for cheap and affordable sushi whenever i can
