My favorite restaurant in all of Gilroy! Family run restaurant with a surprising large menu and very reasonable wine options. Especially fun for groups, but special enough for date night. We also order take out - the food is always fresh and flavorful.

Very very friendly place! The owner came out several times to check on us, to chat with us, to talk about where we were from and where he was from. (Italian restaurant, but he's Greek, and the influence shows in the menu.) This feels like a local hangout that has been around for years; a lot of the patrons coming out of the restaurant (we were near the door) also stopped to chat, and a lot seemed to know each other. I suspect this is a frequent haunt on a Friday night when you live in Gilroy and want to go somewhere nice, but a place that won't take a lot of energy. More than one of the waitresses came over to the table to chat too. There was no time when we felt we weren't being taken care of, or where we felt we had been left stranded and there was no way to ask for a refill or an extra sauce or anything else. I had the garlic steak, and I will probably still smell of garlic till around the end of next week. Understand: That's what I came for. They also have dishes that aren't overpowered by garlic. But the bread, for example, came with a dipping bowl of garlic oil. Because they know why a lot of people come to Gilroy. The food was solid, and very acceptable, but for a nice restaurant it probably leans a little more toward local diner rather than stretching to reach some new culinary fantasy. it's a very comfortable menu, well prepared. More than anything else, I was sold by the amazing, wonderful, friendly staff and service, and would be happy to come back again and be embraced again in that almost-family kind of way.

Tasso's is a great restaurant especially if you want Greek food. My husband and I have been there many times. We've had scalloni, (scallops and abalone together in a patty), moussaka, salmon, steak Diane, and prime rib (weekends only). Tasso will even make some things that are not on the menu if you ask. He and wife Maria are so friendly and welcoming. I recommend this restaurant highly

I was visiting gilroy and in need of a garlic fix, found this place and was not disappointed. I had the garlic steak rare yum yum It's a small quaint place with good food, the owner and his wife are great. I suggest giving this place a try

Prices are expensive for the area, 18-30 a plate. Service, rude, waitresses were mad at one another and had terrible attitudes with us. Lots of empty glasses, made us feel like it was an imposition to ask for refills. Waitress got a soup order wrong, then was not pleasant about correcting her mistake; she made our cousin feel like she had done something wrong for asking for the correct soup. Appetizers: Fried calamari was fishy. Cheese sticks were over cooked Moussaka, came with rice and squash. Rice tasted like minute rice with frozen vegetables. Squash was yummy, not over cooked. Moussaka was good, but nothing special. It was my first time having Moussaka so I don't have a frame of reference for how true to the dish it was. Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo: scallops were ok, prawns were mediocre, had those mini salad shrimp, $25 dish, could definitely have had better at an Applebee's/Johnny Carinos for $10 less. None of the flavors were worth the prices. Sadly, Applebee/Johnny Carinos/chain restaurants are better in quality. Will NOT be going back, save your money, go somewhere else.

This was my first visit to Tasso's. The food and staff were wonderful. We took my mother for her 89th birthday, although she didn't want us to share this with the staff. The soups, salads, entrees and sandwiches were great! We met the owner, who was more than cordial, as was our waitress. I will certainly visit again. My only negative comment was regarding the restroom. Upon visiting the ladies room, the smell of urine was overwhelming. In hindsight, I should have mentioned it to the owner. I think it needs a thorough cleaning. It was neat, but the odor was horrible. Besides this issue, I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends! Many thanks for a great meal, and for making us feel so welcome!

This is my absolute favorite place to eat in town . The owner will custom design your dinner plate if you ask for suggestions it may seem pricey at first but factor in the portion sizes and soup and salad are included with your entree; you're not paying extra on top of the regular menu price. Ask for the Greek Village Salad its not on the menu but I promise you won't be able to duplicate it at home!

We were searching yelp and had settled on a place that we were on the way to when we passed Tasso's. We stopped in because it looked adorable. it was. The owner and his buds were playing dice and gambling at the bar. The missus was serving.... The old world charmed was oozing out of the place! The food was classic greek and very good. highly recommend.

My husband and I went here last night for dinner and when we first walked in we were pleasantly surprised on how nice this place is, nice decor and clean. Tasso the owner he greeted us and is a very nice and funny man. We also really liked our waitress Lisa, shes great. Now for our food, it was delicious! We also had the best Tiramisu ever, they make it there! D-Lish! We did not have a steak last night but we will for sure next time because we hear they are Awesome! Coming from Tasso himself. We have found a gem of a place to dine! Can't wait to go back!

We were on vacation again and decided last minute on our way home to get something garlicky in Gilroy. We had always driven past before. We used our map app to find a restaurant. We chose Tassos. It felt like home. Outstanding service. Its called "old house" and thats what it felt like. There was 50's era jazz playing and the staff joked with our children and treated us as part of the family. (Like Nana and Papas house) The feta appetizer I ordered was great looking as well as great tasting with fresh ripe tomatoes in roasted garlic olive oil. Our entrées were all excellent. The flavors were rich but balanced. My garlic seafood combo plate was not overly garlicky. All in all, we had a great experience and are planning on going back if we are anywhere near gilroy. You should try it too. Its a great greek restaurant that knows garlic.

We went to Tassos after an excursion to the gilroy factory outlets. Not being too hungry, we ordered two plates between the four of us. The waitress offered us the vegetarian minestrone soup along with our plate of garlic penne pasta. Turns out the soup had beef pieces in it and had beef based broth. Neither of us eat beef and this was totally not cool. Once we told the waitress we got a stink like this was totally our fault and we were inconveniencing her by calling it out. Also, we got slapped with a split fee that was 30% of our bill for splitting the plates between us. This place is not cheap and 30% split-fee amounted to quite a lot. We were not informed about this at any point and when we asked the waitress about this, she replied like this was a normal practice in America! NEVER going back here. You will probably have a better evening almost anywhere else. Not to mention the money you will save on expensive food and needless charges.

This restaurant is very popular with an older generation, all of whom seemed to be having big nights out. It is pricey for the type of food that they serve. On the other hand, the owner is completely charming, and made a big effort to make us - and our dogs - feel welcome and cared for on the front deck.

  • Laura B.

This is the best place to eat in Gilroy! Prices are good and portions are huge! The garlic seafood pasta is our favorite but everything is great! People get too hung up on going to restaurant chains like the Olive Garden.... TASSOS has real family and real food!

  • Kerriee H.

The soup was great - beef pasta. The orange rouge was yummy. The tiramisu amazing. The out door patio is a little rustic but was very dog friendly. Service was great. I will go again when I am in the area. I love family owned places!

Excellent meal. However, when the waitress assures you they won't sing for your birthday, and then they sing, I was very annoyed. My husband is autistic, and hates attention, so next time you lie, please consider the person's feelings when they ask you not to sing.

  • Daniel C.

Steer clear. High price, below average food... The meal left much to be desired. They served kabobs with a loaf of sourdough, since when is kabob not served with pit bread...? The prices were what you would expect from a high class sit down Mediterranean restaurant, however the food was't fit for a kabob hut on the beach and should have been priced accordingly.. This was a pricey bad experience, and I have to mention the one crouton on my salad, it was larger than a walnut and clearly made of unseasoned sourdough bread from the prior day. Ii will never go here again. My friends meal was undercooked chicken kabob...wow!

Not impressed. A group of 10 of us went. The food was pretty flavorless and without greek zest. Server was rude and seemed annoyed to be there.

It's a small intimate venue that has a warm cozy atmosphere. The hostess Maria was more than willing to accommodate me when I requested a private table for two. This wonderful little restaurant gave me an opportunity to enjoy delicious Italian food as well as make an incredible first impression on my new lady friend. Highly recommended over Olive Garden and other national chains.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I go here for lunch weekly, and I am yet to have a meal I don't like. They have a great variety of dishes here, and the authentic Greek food is really good. I can tell that the food is cooked with high quality ingredients, and they have great service. I rarely hand out 5 stars, but Tasso's has given me no reason to give anything less.

  • Jenn G.

2.5 stars The food was decent but the service was lacking. We felt rushed the entire time during dinner. It was 8pm on a Friday night and the place was dead. Yet, the server came by and took my MIL's plate before she was done! They also tried to take the appetizers away when there was clearly half of the portions left. What really annoyed me, though, was that the male (owner?) poured our wine sooo sloppily! He poured the wine into the glass, then allowed it to drip drip drip on the white table cloth, moved onto the next glass, drip drip drip, and again. It was just kind of rude (and wasteful). Their saving grace was that they offered us a refill on our coffee in a to-go cup when one of the servers heard that we had a long drive ahead of us for the night.

We went on Saturday for a late lunch before going to Gilroy Gardens. All the positive Yelp reviews were on spot. It was delicious. My husband had the Lamb Shank and loved it. I had the Chicken Souvalki and it was moist, tender and juicy. The service was personable and attentive. We will be back!

Fresh vs. Leftovers Recently went back to Tassos to try the Prime Rib dinner. I am really disappointed with the results. It turned out that they only had Prime Rib that was medium to well done. Without thinking I decided to try it. It was dry with little taste. It was clear that this was not cooked today. When I pushed them they said it was actually cooked yesterday and this was the leftovers that was reheated. I understand that restaurants have to turn a profit but not at the cost of serving old reheated food from a day or so ago. It would appear the issues you see on the various "restaurant impossible" shows (days old, reheated, microwaved food) happen in more restaurants then you would imagine. I am sorry to say that we will not be back again.

My wife and I ate at Tasso's and Maria's (don't forget Maria! who is Tasso's wife and at the restaurant she appeared to be the center of energy! So just find an excuse to speak to Mrs. Maria! She is a tireless and enthusiastic hostess. So we went to this restaurant for the first time on Sunday/ I can tell you this! The hosts are amazing! They know how to welcome people to their establishment! I was observing Mrs. Maria saying something very special to all her guests.. Mr. Tassos was also amazing. He came and guided us on the menu. And when we ordered... What can I say! The best food from all the Greek American establishments in the Bay area. The food is just perfect! Now, beyond that, they offered us their expertise in choosing the wine. And they guaranteed the quality to the point that we were told that if we did not like the wine, they would open another bottle for us. So bottom line! If you do not live in Gilroy; find an excuse to go there! And then find an excuse to meet Mrs. Maria and Mr. Tassos. After you will finish dinner there, you will know that your trip to Gilroy was worth it! And do not forget to try Tiramisu as a desert. Many of the deserts are made by the owners on the premises, and you can taste the difference.

Perfect. Comfortable. Happy. We usually go for holidays but had an early Friday dinner. Love the portobello sauce on the steak, delicious calamari, and Yasso recommended a perfect cabernet for my regular order of Greek lamb chops. There is no where else to eat in Gilroy so happy to have this old style restaurant so close to home. Take home dessert when too full. So good! Would make my day if I could get snackies and watch sports tv here on slow afternoons!

A pleasant surprise after a long family weekend. I love Greek food so finding this place with old world charm and menu selection but also featuring Gilroy garlic was exactly what we wanted to finish our vacation. Everything was very good. Service was excellent and authentic. Our large family felt more than welcome and cared for. We will go out of our way to return to this restaurant. The food was gorgeous, delicious and well portioned.

Had dinner at Tasso's with a friend and was more than pleasantly surprised. The menu was loaded with Greek and Italian dishes and everything we ordered was delicious! The appetizers, the entrees and especially the Tiramisu for dessert, delicious!. It's a few blocks off of Monterey Road but easy to find, so any time you are in Gilroy stop by and treat yourself!

I just thought it was a bit...meh. Yelp listed this place as Greek or Meditteranean I think, so we found it and went. They have gyros, but that seems to be about the only Greek item available. This place has seen better days.

Can you say HIDDEN GEM??!! Tasso's was amazing! First thing you can't help but notice is the great service. I loved the couple that run it, great team. And the food?? WOW. I went with 3 other ladies & we all were more than happy with our lunches. We even had dessert--which were impeccable & coffee. Truly, one of the best restaurants I've ever been. I like the building(converted house) & the feel inside. Very cozy. They know whats they're doing & have such a great way of running this business. LOVED IT!

3.5 Stars If you like Italian, American, or Greek cuisine stop by to try Tassos Old House's in Gilroy. Don't worry, the restaurant isn't exactly someone's old house and it looks like your standard restaurant. The owner is funny and has a talkative personality to keep you entertained throughout the evening. Once our orders were placed our server brought us bread and olive oil with roasted garlic cloves. The bread wasn't very memorable, but I really enjoyed the roasted garlic cloves in the olive oil dip. First came our appetizer: Calamari. I'm not usually a big fan of calamari, but this dish was amazingly good. The batter was crispy and wasn't very heavy. The calamari pieces were very tender and not chewy at all. It came with two different types of dipping sauces: a white sauce and a red sauce. I'm guessing the white sauce was tartar sauce and the red sauce was cocktail sauce. I found it interesting that the two sauces were placed in the same serving dish so it was very easy for the two sauces to be mixed together. Oh well, I still highly recommend ordering this. For my main course I ordered the Greek Combination for $20. This consisted of Tasso's Famous Athenian Baked Lamb Shank accompanied with Mousakka and Rice Pilaf on the side. I saw that the Tasso's Famous Athenian Baked Lamb Shank was already going for $18 so for $2 more I was able to get Mousakka and Rice Pilaf too. What a deal! The meal also came with Greek Salad or Soup. I picked the soup, which was Minestrone that night. I felt the lamb shank could have been more tender. Some of my pieces were still very firm and just didn't fall off the bone. Although it wasn't the best lamb shank I've had, it wasn't very gamy at all and that's a plus. The accompanying sauce was slightly sweet and tasted great over the Rice Pilaf. I really enjoyed the Mousakka and I was able to taste the eggplant and ground meat. To finish off the meal with something sweet Tassos Old House is smart to bring out a dessert tray so you can easily see what the dessert items look like before you order them. What a tempting way to tease your stomach! I decided to try the Rainbow Sorbet and it was a light, tart way to end my meal. They were very generous with the portions and I counted at least 3 scoops in my cup. It was topped off with whip cream. I enjoyed my experience with Tassos Old House. There were some hits and misses with my meal, but overall it was good.

Went for dinner after the Ren Faire. It was not anywhere near the chain restaurants next the freeway so you will not find it if you are not looking. I was a bit underdressed but still felt graciously welcomed. The food was amazingly good. The sauces on the dinners were good enough for you to consider using the bread to clean the plate. But don't.. you need to save room for the Tiramisu. Made the drive home from Gilroy a very happy time.

We went here cause we were @ the Gilroy mall and was one of those day where we just " had to " eat Mediterranean food :) This is the first yelp result we got and we took a chance and I am glad we did . The place has a good ambiance , very friendly service and delicious food . However , we did not have a lot of Mediterranean options on the menu ( no shwarma, no hummus !) but we ordered chicken Jerusalem , chicken kabob ,Greek chicken, Greek salad , Greek lemon soup , pita bread bruschetta, baklava and tiramisu - everything was delish!!! But whatever you do - do not miss the tiramisu - spoonfuls of Heaven :) !

The food is more like 3 stars, but the service is great and the owners are incredibly adorable and super nice, so for that - 4 stars. For Gilroy, it's nice to have something different like Tassos. It's so cute and cozy - the outside is lovely but the inside decor can be off-putting to some - I find it charming. The atmosphere makes for an intimate dining experience - my fiance and I have gone a few times for dinner and the lighting is dim and it's pretty peaceful and relaxing. The food is decent - definitely filling. My favorite is the home made Tiramisu - not your traditional Tiramisu but it's really delicious! Would recommend for something different.

Looking for a place to eat at 9pm in a new town can be tricky when you don't want to eat at a Denny's or Big Bear and your not a fan of late night fast food. So, I got on yelp and started looking... It was 9pm so I started calling around to see what was open. Most places were closing at 9pm. Since Tasso's would be open until 9:30pm we thought it was worth a try. When we got there it was completely empty, but Maria welcomed us in as if they were expecting us. I have to admit at first I was a little nervous... I mean, why would a nice restaurant be completely empty at 9pm on a Friday night, right? It took me a few minutes to settle into my seat, but Maria assured us that we should just sit and enjoy ourselves. It took a few bits of olive oil with baked garlic and a few more bits of my wonderful Greek salad before I was sure I was in the right place. I had the baked lamb shank with my Greek salad and my lovely dinner date had the portobello penne with Italian sausage and chicken. It's a quaint place equipped with old manual cash register... Tasso and Maria were delightful and the food was tasty. As nervous as I was when we walked in about the place I was equally content afterward. I can't speak about the entire menu, but the lamb shank was good and the Greek salad was excellent. My eye catching date is a picky eater and she loved her portobello penne. We had a nice visit with Tasso and Maria and although we are unlikely to be in Gilroy again any time soon. If we do come to town and we need a good late night meal and good service we will probably have dinner with Tasso and Maria again.

Stopped in late on a Thursday a few weeks ago. The service was fantastic, all the food was fresh, Shrimp and Lamb were excellent, servings were generous. Also, the bread and garlic were top notch! I would definitely return.

I had been here before but didn't remember what I had. Today I had the Mediterranean salad (Greek with added shrimp, crab, salami, 2 dolmas) and it was very good. The salad is all about the dressing, and theirs was good. Wish it had more lettuce, but it was fine. BUT, I had to try the tiramisu and OMFSM it was the best I've ever had! It was more of a creamy mousse than much of ladyfinger cakeness that many are. And no strong flavor of kahlua or rum. Great flavor with plenty cocoa powder and a small amount of an artfully done chocolate syrup on top. Service was very sweet and attentive by who I believe is Maria. She makes the tiramisu and I love her.

Yikes! Tasso and Maria are very nice. The decor is horrific and long overdue for a face lift. The food is awful. My husband and I ordered their Greek specialties as both Tasso and Maria are from Greek and we figured they must know how to cook excellent Greek food. Maybe they do - but their chef does not! The spanikopita we ordered were bitter, doughy, burnt and watery. We took one bite each and sent it back. We then had the Greek salad - it's the only thing I finished of the whole meal - the lettuce was fresh, the tomatoes ripe and the feta cheese delicious. The dressing was on the oily side and the plate was completely filled with oil in the end. The Moussaka was uneatable. The top 1/2 inch was a rubbery, doughy bechamel sauce. The meat was oily and rancid. It's was clear that the Moussaka was pre-made and had long ago passed the point of freshness. It came with rice and vegetables. The rice was OK - again pre-made and old and then reheated. The vegetable the kind you find in the frozen section, then boiled to watery mess. i pretty much sent the whole thing back. Living in California where fresh food is so readily available and in Gilroy, surrounded by farmers it seems crazy to serve frozen, pre-made, re-heated bad food. The dinner cost $100 for the both of us. If Tasso's cut their menu down to only include the Greek specialties, focused on natural, fresh ingredients cooked to order - this could be a real winner!

We detoured and took a drive through downtown Gilroy. As we drove pass this cute little place it pulled right in. I was traveling with my mom, and niece on our way to my stepfather's funeral. Tasso and Mary are the perfect hosts. They reminded me of my husband whom i was missing terribly as he was left behind to manage our two resturants in Texas. Tasso suggested a fabulous Crete Wine and a combo Mosuskka and Lamb Shank plate. My husband is Greek so I was thinking "ok" bring it on. OMG!!! this food was out of the ball park it was the best I have ever had. It even topped my mother in laws. I will never be able to eat hers again without thinking of Tasso and Mary. For dessert we had the Baklava. I wish I would have ordered a pan to take home. Mary's Baklava was heaven. What made the lunch special was that Tasso took the time to have a toast of grappa with us in memory of my step-father. What a great man. If you are ever in Texas look us up! We will be back!!!!!

Family owned, very nice people! The food is unique and delicious! I have gone many times for family dinners, Valentines day dinner, Mother's Day brunch, and I even had my wedding rehearsal dinner there on short notice. They are flexible and accommodating! The calamari impressed my Italian family. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. I have never had a bad experience at Tassos'. It is our 'go to' place for a nice dinner in Gilroy! Support your local family owned businesses and give Tassos' a try : )

Enjoyed a great tasting dinner there, as in the past. The calamari appetizer is excellent, prepared perfectly. Wait staff pleasant and efficient. HOWEVER, we stopped going a couple of years ago however, because this is probably the only restaurant on the planet that charges for soda refills. An extra 5 cents worth of soda isn't worth two dollars, and their water tastes terrible.

The wife and I decided to try this place because we were in the mood for something different. Tasso's had decent reviews on Yelp so we decided to give it a shot. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. But maybe we shouldn't have. I got a crab salad sandwich with fries. The sandwich was pretty much tasteless. My wife got a Giro. She said it was WAY too garlicy. Maybe since it's Gilroy they think you have to drown everything in Garlic. Who knows. Anyway we were not impressed.

I have to say Tassos Old House is probably one of the few restaurants I remember going to as a child because the owners always treated everyone like family. Although the staff has always been very kind, but I have to say that the menu tends to be expensive for the area. Some of the waitresses can be cold feeling. I definitely have always felt like this restaurant's demographic is for the older crowd. The menu has a great variety of choices including Greek, Italian and American favorites. The overall taste of the food is good. Most people I know that go to Tassos have a specific favorite meal that they stick to and rarely try the specials. Tassos also has a private banquet room upstairs for the larger groups or private events. Because of the location being down the street from Saint Mary's, if you are looking for a place for a rehearsal dinner for your wedding, this could be a good option.

My husband had eaten here before and claimed to really like it, but the minute I walked through the door I was on my guard. The decor at the "old house" looked like a cross between my great-grandma's living room and a garage sale: wallpaper and carpet with scary big patterns; layers of paint on the woodwork; wicker-framed mirrors in the Tuscan-winery-inspired enclosed porch. The dishes and tableware were clean, but everything else seemed dull and musty with age. (And the tulip in a vase on our table was missing its petals.) We had to wait several minutes for someone to seat us, although there were lots of empy tables and lots of servers walking by. We were told twice, as employees came in and out of the reception area--once by Tassos himself--that someone would be with us soon. (It probably took longer for them to tell us that than it would have taken to seat us.) Finally we got a table--in the afore-mentioned enclosed porch, with grapes on the ceiling and grapes on the wallpaper--and while our waitress was friendly enough, her service was quite slow. Our food arrived quickly, and the busboys were quick and efficient, but we spent too much time sitting around waiting. The food was okay: nothing special, and certainly overpriced (like other reviewers have noted), but decent. I had the ricotta-and-spinach ravioli in gorgonzola sauce and it was tasty enough. The menu is different from what is posted online: it's more extensive in the restaurant, but vegetarian and other special-diet options seem to be limited. The dessert presentation was sorely lacking: we were presented with a tray of unappealing looking saran-wrapped items, and we passed. If you're in the area, I guess you could do worse. You'll pay more than you expect to eat average food in an outdated environment. But I wouldn't make the drive from anywhere outside of Gilroy--this is not a destination restaurant.

Nothing bad I can say about this place. Food excellent. Service Excellent. Very hospitable owner who helped us with wine selections and gave us a few samples after we described what we were looking for. This is a top-notch restaurant that is not to be missed.

Had a pretty decent dinner there with 3 friends. I had the gyro-plate with the Greek salad. The salad was very good. Lettuce and other veggies were nice and fresh, crumbled cheese on top added a nice flavor, and the dressing was tasty. Only downside was that it was drenched with dressing. The gyro-plate had a good flavor combination. However, the meat did not taste particularly fresh. I could tell if the issue was that it had been frozen and then thawed, or just popped into the microwave. But overall it was good and I would consider ordering again. The overall service was above average. There was only one other party at the restaurant so we received a lot of attention. We had cocktails, which were nicely mixed. My companions like their meals but didn't rave over them. One person had a veal dish, another had the gyro-plate, and another had a lamb dish. I would go again, but would not go too much out of my way to go.

The Fiance' and I decided to venture out to find a new place to eat around his place. So with a craving for Italian and after driving around Gilroy for a bit we found Tassos Old House. What was nice is they offered a handful of Greek dishes as well. It's was like stepping back into time, lights down low, roses on each table, old time cash registers and mirrors. We were greeted by the owners wife a nice Greek woman. I had one of the Gilroy Specials that had tons of garlic (mmmm delish, actual whole garlic cloves) it had scallops, shrimp, prawns, crab and lobster in a Fettuccini sauce. While it was good it wasn't something that set it apart from any other Fettuccini dish I had before. Plus I only had one scallop and couldn't find the lobster?? My Fiance' had a similar dish but with chicken, shrimp in an olive oil butter sauce. It was good but nothing that made it stand out. We had the homemade Tiramasu and the chocolate cake. Both ok. We decided we'll be back to try other stuff on the menu but won't be running back to do so.

The food. 4 star My husband and I ordered the appetizer for four. It had lamb- delicious, tomato, onion and feta. It was great, very small and cost 26 dollars!!! yikes- over priced, It should have been priced at 18 dollars max. This place is a weirdo mix of overpriced italian and overpriced greek food. I think the owner is greek.... and if so he should just pursue the greek. Overall the food was great but extremely overpriced, absurdly so... but it gets the 2 stars because "meh. I've experienced better." The drink. 1 star I just got water but my husband got a diet coke for 2 bucks. They didn't even give him a can or anything just a soda machine fill in a average sized glass. When the waitress casually asked him if he wanted more, he said yes.. we ended up paying 4 bucks for 40 cents worth of diet pepsi.

We've actually been going to this place for a year. Tassos is a place with a bit of a uncertain personality. They have a bit of everything there, although the good stuff is really the Greek food. It's a family run business, and kinda feels a bit old school restaurant as Tam would point out the doilies on the plates. We actually really like a couple things there - although we've tried lots and just don't remember everything. The first thing to point out is their Gyros is homemade. Not the frozen huge gyros things you see spinning around an "autodoner" (why do I know that???) at the fast foodgyros shops. This stuff is homemade and I could tell. The second is the Tiramisu. Tasso's wife makes the tiramisu every morning, and it has what I think is the perfect texture, and not an overpowering liquor taste (in fact it's just a hint). This place is really out of the way, has a bit of Italian, Greek, and whatever else, but the food is made with care and love. We make the stop every time we drive to or through Gilroy.

Hello: I've enjoyed eating at Tasso's a number of times with either friends or family. Each time except the last time was quite good. I prefer freshly brewed coffee served... freshly brewed! (go figure) In previous visits we've enjoyed being served by a "veteran" waitress that happened to be absent on our last vist. Thus, we were served by a seemingly "rookie" and she lacked the pleasant attitude that helps make a nice dinner even nicer. Our waitress on our last visit seemed "cold and distant" and elected to argue when I mentioned a problem with the coffee. --In my view, it's most unfortunate that the last "taste" of our dining experience was that of a waitress that seemed more interested in being right, and less interested in pleasing the customers. The above having been said, we'll nonetheless return again. The food is quite good!

My family and I just moved to Gilroy and pass by Tasso's everyday. We decided to try it and were not disappointed. Everything from the drinks, appetizers, dinner, dessert, more drink was fabulous. Tasso and his wife Maria are very nice people. Very Greek!!! I loved it. I don't review places unless I LOVE IT!!! If you review everything then it loses something for me, but if I'm at a place and I think "I have to review them" I know I found a gem. We went on Wed. which is a little quieter, but the upside it Tasso does the cooking that night. I could taste the heart and soul in the food, it was as if he were preparing the meal for his family. I'm sure like with anything they have their off night but last night wasn't it. Is the decor a little old, maybe but it was clean, and any cook/ owner that says come look at my kitchen, I like to show people my kitchen is more important to me than having the newest and probably the dirtiest restaurant. 5 stars to Tasso and Maria!!!

We will NEVER go again - the owner was incredibly dishonest! My husband and I live in Monterey but we have a son that moved to Gilroy about a year ago so we frequent the area often. We are always looking for a decent place to eat in Gilroy beside the 'chain-food' restaurants. I read the reviews on Restaurant.com and purchased a gift certificate to use at Tassos excited about the Greek/Italian menu. The food was a little pricey but overall - especially the lamb shank, which our friendly waitress recommended - was delightful and so was our waitress was excited to here we were from out of town. We ordered appetizers, 3 entrees and DESSERT--the total was $90 plus dollars, we handed over our credit card along with a $25 GIFT CERTIFICATE from Restaurants.com that Tassos ADVERTISED ON. The waitress seemed confused and we jokingly said it was probably due to gift certificate because it seemed like the 3 tables were all locals --then the manager came to the front of the house and got his glasses and angrily took our bill back with him to the back of the house--we knew it was our bill because we were the only ones left to pay --it was only 8pm-- 15 minutes went by before we saw our waitress. When the waitress brought us our check and credit card back to sign we KNEW SOMETHING was up..--- we noticed that our bill JUMPED up $18.50 THAN the owner deducted our $25 gift certificate. When we asked the waitress she couldnt explain and the manager refused to come speak to us... WE PAID - BUT WILL NEVER RETURN. Evidently they dont want out of town business nor should they advertise gift certificates if they arent going to HONOR THEM!!!

Come here for the tiramisu! Honestly the best tiramisu I've ever had... Not too heavy, not too sweet, not too rummy. It just melts in your mouth. Even if you're not a fan, you may be here. This place is a great alternative (off the beaten path) if you're shopping at the Gilroy outlets and don't want to eat at a sketchy chain restaurant. I chose something from the Italian side of the menu (the menu is amusingly filled with Italian and Greek pages) and had a wonderful lightly breaded and sauteed filet of sole. The entree also came with a salad/soup and a starch. I had the minestrone - way too salty for me - but the baked potato was delish. Service was a little spotty toward the end - the owner dropped by our table and thought we were waiting for our dinner entrees even though we were awaiting dessert. Still, a great experience and reasonable prices!

Ate here once in my life after my Roman Catholic confirmation at the SJ Arena back in like 2001 in my sophomore year of high school when hella folks from hella different Catholic Churches all throughout Santa Clara County got confirmed there. I remember the food being pretty good. I remember going with a pasta with meat plate and it was pretty good. Maybe a little over priced. This place is really small and literally looks like an old wood framed house, and overall it tries to give off a homemade feel with an authentic food setting. I think all the dining tables are actually set out in where the living room area would be if this was an actual house.

When my boyfriend and I came to Gilroy for a wedding, we had no idea of where to enjoy a nice quiet meal. That weekend we were also celebrating our three year anniversary. After searching on the internet for restaurants in the area, the menu and reviews from other customers convinced us to visit. We were not disppointed with the food and service we received. I ordered a pasta dish with crab and it was delicious. My boyfriend ordered a steak that was very juicy and exquisite. The money spent was totally worth it. If you're looking for a restaurant to enjoy a nice, quiet meal, look no further. You won't regret it! :)

Ok, I'll start off by saying I'm Greek and I don't typically eat at Greek or Mediterranean/Arabic restaurants because most of the foods can only be right if they are made with lots of time and by hand. So, it's hard to go to a restaurant and compare their food against mine, my mom's, or my yiayia's - no comparison! :) So, saying that, we went to Tasso's and I was impressed. It's a cute little place in an old house (hence the name) and a family run operation - the menu was great. Good items to choose from for the adventurous to the sedate. We had lamb, chicken, shrimp, gyros, and such in my party and the food was overall very good! We will definitely be returning here. Yasou!

It was a quiet Sunday night. We were driving through on our way north. Not in the mood for Mexican or Asian food although we were tempted, we were thrilled to find Tasso's on Yelp. It felt like I was having dinner at my family's house! The owner greeted us warmly. He smiled when we ordered Ouzo and poured a rather generous drink! He brought over a sample of Pastichio (spelling?!) to try that was fabulous. We love Greek food and what we had was delicious. The spanakopita was perfect, lambshank tender, mousaka scrumptious! Greek salad came with the meal. Our only problem is that there was too much food! We were full and happy!

Yum! A bit pricy but the food is great! My boyfriend and I came here after visiting the Gilroy Outlets and we both really enjoyed the food. Now I know where to stop in Gilroy for a great meal.

The menu is extensive (american, greek and italian) and some of the items our party got were... not too bad. Unfortunately the service we received was awful. They have a banquet room upstairs and there were over 60 people up there, and as a result we had to wait 1/2 hour for our table (and we had reservations!), and were then informed by the harried and not terribly personable waitress that because of the banquet party our food would be delayed. It was, over an hour. I frankly thought that being seated and then not being fed was quite rude, and that their staffing problems were not my problems, and said so. That said, if it's a quiet night your experience might be just fine. It's possible my opinion of the food was colored by having to wait so long for it, but we were underwhelmed.

My friend and I shopped at the Gilroy outlets and found this treasure in Gilroy just by chance. Lovely atmosphere: we sat in the garden room which had natural light but was cool (great to be in when it was 90+ outside!) the table settings were very nice with fresh flowers Great food: we had the salmon and the Chinese chicken salad - they have a great menu with lots of different dishes Excellent prices: We expected to pay more because of the atmosphere. Excellent service: friendly and attentive You can't get much better than that. We will definitely return again and again - It's worth the drive from the South Bay.

We have been going to Tasso's s less and less over the years. We have had great meals there and great service but then we have had ok meals with just ok service. It has been one of those places where you never know if the meal will be good or average. We do keep trying, hoping that it will be more consistent, it's too bad because most of the restaurants in Gilroy have the same problem.

I love this place. The owners are some of the nicest people you'll every meet. They truly care about the customers. They wander around the place ensuring that things are running smoothly. I am a big fan of greek food and can testify that their Moussaka is excellent. Other items on the menu are good as well. They have a full bar and make real good cocktails. The service is always superior. I have never had a bad experience here. I make the trek to Gilroy just to visit Tassos.

We had driven by this place many times and decided that it was time to check it out. We went in at 5:30 on Valentines Day...A man whom I assume was the owner was at the podium at the door and did not greet us. We had to be the first to speak. He asked if we had a reservation. We did not. The place had 3 occupied tables. He asked "how many?" when there were clearly 3 of us standing there..without further comment, he led us to a table, dropped menu's and left. Not quite what one would expect from the proprietor of a small town business that relies on repeat business...and when we left, there were no thanks offered.....The decor threw us off, it is well described by another reviewer as "a cross between my great-grandmother's living room and a garage sale." Our server was wonderful. The food was medicore at best and seemed REALLY overpriced. The owners attitude, coupled with the quality for price paid of the food is why we won't return.

Love the quaint, quite atmosphere. The menu is huge and is much more Italian than Greek but the Greek dishes they offer are amazing. Have also tried a few of their other dishes and found them worth the money you pay. Reading some of the other reviews confuses me because I found their prices to be surprisingly low! They have a dish where you get a lamb chop, a pork chop and a full chicken breast plus starch and vegetable for $21! (That's my boyfriend's favorite. MEAT+MEAT+MEAT!!!!) The portion sizes on every entree we've tried are enough to feed two people. I appreciate that they let the flavors of the food speak for themselves using light sauces and olive oil, instead of covering it up with heavy, salty sauces. I highly recommend the house made sausage appetizer.....presentation isn't fancy but damn are they Delicious!

6 of us had lunch at Tasso's today. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious! We had baskets of fresh, warm bread with butter and garlic butter, large greek salads, Gyros sandwiches, homemade soup, grilled salmon and a calamari appetizer that was very good. We also had sodas, iced tea and coffee. All great! The tab was 86.00! What a bargin for such great food. So much better than going to one of the large chain restaurants.

Not a very good experience. The food was just hum drum and not much to it. The whole time we were there all we could says was thankfully this was through restaurants.com 50% off dinner. We were seated and we placed the printed coupon on the edge of the table in plain view for the waitress to see. She finally came along and picked it p after we had been sitting awhile. I dont really know why the slow service but only about 5 to 7 tables were occupied. We sat for about 20 minuted before the waitress finally came over and started to explain how another waitress had not shown up for week etc... So we finally recieved our food, two Greek salads and dinner. The salads finally showed up and were for the most part wilted and just stuff from my yard I dig up. What about regular lettuce? So after a lengthy wait someone finally came by and picked up the weeds. After awhile the food showed up. Not much to rave about and just ok food wise. Then the waitress comes back and picksup the plates and sets off to figure the bill... Now about 10 minutes goes by we have been in this place almost 2 hours the waitress comes back and says "oh im sorry we dont accept restaurant.com anymore". So I ask for the Mgr. im not happy the paper was on the table the waitress took it and accpeted our orders. Now after eating wham we dont take these. The owner comes over and proceeds to tell us from a little kid how hard the restaurant business is and how hard things are and we need to just pay and get the hell out and its our fault for bringing the paper work in. In reality we wold not have gone anyway without restaurants, com giving us the discount to try it out. So in the end we were taken advantage of by the owner, cheated, and the food was not anything I would ever want to eat again...

Tassos Old House is by far the best restaurant in Gilroy. The menu is extensive and if you don't see something you want, just ask. Tassos and Maria (the owners) are very friendly and bend over backwards to make your meal just as you want it. They have the best hamburger in town (made from ground tri-tip) and always have fresh fish on the menu. Everything tastes home made. The bread was recently changed to ciabatta and it's fantastic. I used to pass on the bread, but now I can't stop eating it. They have plenty of parking. If you haven't been here, I urge you to give it a try.

We went to Tassos for Mother's Day because we had a gift certificate. We made reservations because we were expecting it to be a zoo. When we got there, 5ish, the place was empty. Our first though was "Is this place living on reputation? There's no one here and it's Mother's Day." We needn't have worried. The place litterally is an old house, I think we ate in the living room. The decore is a bit dated, and it wasn't cheep. But the food was incredible. Even the kids menu is great. My wife had some sort of steak. She said it was perfect. I had chicken, it was great. And my five-year-old son ordered "chicken strips" I was expecting the same ol' thing that he gets everywhere else. Well... first when he ordered his strips the waitress/owner asked "soup or salad?" Huh? soup? salad? with a kids meal? We try to get him to order his own meals, so we goaded him to answer, he said "yes" which of couse made the waitress laugh and she explained to him that he can soup or salad with his dinner. He then clarified that he would like a salad with orange dressing. (We clarified that he meant Thousand Island) We were served our salads and the kid's salad was as big as an adult's. WOW. Then the entrees came and I was shocked. The kids chicken strips did not come from a freezer bag. They were sliced boneless brests hand battered and fried fresh. WOW. Overall, a great experience. Dinner for 2 adults + 1 child + wine for two and desert for all three came out to $90'ish. I'd go back when I have a spare $100.

My wife and I have been faithful patrons for years! There's a thousand reasons why! Delicious food cooked the way YOU want it. An abundance of menu items to suit any palate any day. Attentive, friendly servers and bus boys. Tasso and Maria, (the owners) are the consummate hosts - warm, friendly - treat you like you are family. If you enjoy lamb, the lamb shanks are succulent, fall off the bone tender. Veal dishes are perfect! Seafood - try the Lazy Man's Cioppino - magnificent! Go for any of the Greek specialties - cannot be bettered anywhere! Great value, great selections - my mouth's watering as I write!

The service here has been terrible lately. The waitresses range from slow to very slow. The busboys are fast, willing to respond to requests, and deserve to be tipped separately. Price of the food is getting too high, it's hitting 3 stars now. The place has a lot of personality and some of the food is very good, although not spectacular. Bottom line, you're overpaying a lot by trying to get good food in town, which this place doesn't deliver. You have to drive to San Jose/Los Gatos to get some REAL fine dining. Two definite thumbs down.

Tasso's is a family owned business with Tasso Perakis and Maria Perakis combining to make you feel at home and appreciated. The food is fantastic. Try the Greek Lamb Chops or if you are a garlic fan, try the Garlic steak, my grand daughter's favorite. Ask for Maria, except on Thursdays, she will smother you with chatter and hospitality. She wants you to enjoy your meal, and to go away satisfied. Go often, and you will find that you become more to these astute entreprenuers than just customers. You become family. The food, the friendship, and atmosphere creates an enjoyable evening or luncheon anytime. Gene P...

Tasso's is wonderful! I have lived in San Jose for over 25 years and we recently moved to Gilroy, (about 4 months ago). We drove past Tasso's many times as it looks quaint but also a little rough around the edges. My parents came into town so we thought we would take a chance and check it out. The food was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!! I was blown away. I am not one for change and I usually order the same old dishes but I tried their Moussaka, that was nothing less than excellent. It tasted so good, that I felt as though I was having dessert and dinner wrapped up into one! My parents ordered the seafood and prawns and my husband ordered a vegeterian pasta dish that he enjoyed as well. We loved the service, they give you just enough time to enjoy each entree, without feeling as though they are trying to rush you out of there. It is a little pricey, but nothing out of the norm. Certainly not like paying for dinner at the Grille in the Fairmont! I am dying to go back again and have some more of that Moussaka! I would recommend Tasso's to everyone!!
