This is a family run restaurant and it's very consistent. The mole is authentic, the garlicy shrimp tacos are awesome, and the homemade salsas are also great.

Love this place! Great traditional food, beautiful presentation and they treat you like family.

  • Lee O.

Love this place! The family is so friendly, the daughters are total goof-balls and they always remember us. Their hot salsa is so good, I also buy it at the co-op. The ranchero burrito is at least two meals. Chicken mole is awesome. Their soup is always good, and they have a surprisingly extensive salad bar. There are lots of options for Mexican food around here, but this one is a standout.

Pretty good. I have gone a few different times. I got the mole burrito and it was very good and a good size. Salad bar is yummy. Family that owns it is super nice! Tortillas and salsa delish. Fairly expensive compared to other Mexican places. One time I went and got the mole enchilada for $15. Enchiladas were super small and I got the smallest side of rice and beans ever. Plus the rice was under cooked. I have gone other times and it has been better.

This place is amazing, my boyfriend and I moved up here from a border town and we've been looking for a place that reminds us of home, and this place definitely does! It's authentic food and atmosphere, and the people here are super nice.

Absolutely the best Mexican food in Eureka. The chips are definitely homemade and the salsa is excellent and beer is cold!!

  • Stan W.

Best mex food around...great owner / operator...salad bar above par and "pepper soup" is unique and very tasty....oh and don't forget the mole..best by a damn sight

  • Joseph B.

Good food good service but I think they could use some help bussing tables, the place was a bit of mess but the food was excellent and the owner was extremely friendly and I would recommend you give it a try.

Best and most authentic mexicanish food available in humboldt. Great family ran business. Prompt service and very polite. Definitely the better choice if youre looking for a delicious burrito and quite place to eat. And yes they serve plenty of beer options!

  • Alicia M.

We had a great lunch. The mole was some of the best I have ever eaten. My wife had scrimp tacos that she also really liked. Good chips and Salsa. Definitely would give thumbs up.

  • Melissa D.

The fish burrito is fresh and filling. I love that they have fresh tortillas! And the waitstaff is friendly every time. I would definitely recommend trying this place out.

Our favorite Mexican food in Eureka! Great flavor and friendly service.

  • Cynthia Y.

Great honest and friendly service. My family stopped by per these reviews, as we passed by on a road trip via Hwy 101. We were super satisfied with our service and delicious food. I had chicken enchiladas with green sauce, topped with baked cheese. The chicken filling was tender and juicy. Yum.

Food is authentic. Their hot salsa is fantastic! The owner of the restaurant waits on tables, really nice gentleman. Best Mexican food I'm Eureka.

  • Rebecca D.

There are a LOT of Mexican restaurants in Humboldt but THIS one is the best! Amazing food and wonderful service EVERY time! Soup or salad comes with all the entrees and strange as it sounds for a Mexican place, they have a really great salad bar. They also have AWESOME cream of jalepeno soup.

  • Andrew S.

This is currently my favorite mexican restaurant in Humboldt County. The family that owns it is really nice and they really know how to cook. Even the salad bar is good, with some ingredients from the farmer's market. I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I've ordered here.

    (4)
  • Jessica F.

Prawn taco salad was pretty good. Enchilada style burritos not as good. The kitchen and wait staff worked really hard to ensure we had enough water, chips and salsa, and our orders were ok. Probably wouldn't spend $12 on a burrito there again. It was ginormous, but I think other things on the menu might be better...

I really wanted to like this Mom & Pop restaurant, but the food just didn't measure up. The salsa was PERFECT, mind you, but the main course was bland. When asked to make a simple & common substitution (for 2 different flavored enchiladas,) the answer was no. We won't be returning.

Oaxaca Grill is wonderful. It's a small family run restaurant (Mom makes all the tasty food and Dad and the daughters help out and serve) They are all really friendly, and great people who clearly care about what they are serving. Whenever we have out of town friends and family come to visit, this is always on the short list we have to come. The food here is always fresh and tasty. I always look forward to starting out with the homemade chips and two types of fresh salsa they bring to the table. No, the salsa isn't super hot for you hot fanatics, but it doesn't need to be. It's rich and full of flavor. (you can buy some to take home, or buy it at the local natural foods stores) Try all of the homemade soups, especially the jalapeno cream. The mole is out of the park tasty. Everything is good, but I always tend to come back to Ranchero Burrito, which is a ton of food. More than I can handle in one sitting - so it makes great take home lunch for the next day. Bottom line, this is my vote for the best Mexican food in humboldt county.

  • Fn A.

Chile Relleno tasted weird in a few ways! Chile was tough, strange seasoning in with the very little cheese and tired tasting egg batter. The carnitas tacos might have been ok, if the carnitas hadn't been dry and tough. The salad bar was ok and the salsa and chips above average but a bit greasy. Service was friendly and attentive.

Oaxaca Grill might be the best thing that has happened to Eureka because when it comes to Mexican food Eureka is shooting blanks...that's an awesome analogy. Oaxaca Grill is a family own restaurant where you'll find the family taking care of business. Oaxaca Grill is known in the community for their mole, a dark brown chocolate spicy sauce that's a b*tch to make. When I use the word "b*tch" I'm using it lightly, the sauce is a Mother-F***!!ing pain in the ass to make -when done right. The sauce is usually served over chicken with the added side dishes of rice and beans. Many restaurants like Oaxaca Grill have started serving mole over enchiladas. I had the pleasure of tasting the mole over spinach enchiladas. The restaurant serves mole in the traditional Oaxacan style, sweet, with almost no trace of spice. I personally like the spicier versions but you can't fault them for my personal taste. When it comes to mole Oaxaca Grill delivers Oaxacan mole. The side dishes are another story. The Mexican rice was red (a signs of tomatoes) but was tasteless, like steam rice. I'm willing to bet the rice kernels weren't pan fried prior to steaming. The beans had to played double duty to save the dish and they did. Eureka has really low standards when it comes to food, and although Oaxaca Grill is the best thing in Eureka its not the best on Yelp. Note: Oaxaca is a southern state in Mexico.

Best mexican food in Humboldt county. Best salsa ever. Great service, very friendly, very very tasty burritos. Homemade tortillas.

  • Ryan W.

Very authentic mole, jalapeño cream soup was delicious and the chips and salsa were also very good

  • Pamela M.

Being a "Foodie," my judgment is extreme: I found the food disgusting. I could only get down two mouthfuls and then later wished I could throw up. No one asked about the fact that almost all of the food remained on my plate, though two employees looked at it afterward. This is the kind of restaurant which makes one wonder why someone who does not care about quality would open and run a restaurant. I began on a quest for decent Mexican food when I moved here many years ago. The only good Mexican food I have had within 75 miles are the chicken enchiladas at the hot buffet in the Northcoast Coop......and they are only made on Tuesdays. The Strauss sour cream makes a great addition. I am constantly amazed at what the locals here think qualifies as good Mexican food. Having lived in L.A. for 18 years, I have a point of reference.

Awesome customer service. Best salsa ever (you can buy their salsa at co-op and ENF as well). Unique menu. Fresh and Authentic. I really love this place.

    (5)
  • Mark S.

Great staff!! Very kind, helpful and generous. Food is average Humboldt Mexican food. I always say, if the chips/salsa and rice/beans are good, usually everything is good. Not the case here. Salsa is the high note. Both are pretty darn tasty. Chips are dull, though. Ordered the Al Pastor tacos per recommendation of the staff. Fairly dry and flavorless (Rita's is better). Most places will give you lime wedges with your soft tacos, not here. Rice and beans are very bland. A bit pricey, too. 12$ for a two taco combo. But... having said all that, the salsa is very good and the staff rocks!

The food at Oaxaca Grill is great! We stopped here for a quick dinner and it really was nice and quick!

  • Stoney C.

We love this place! An oasis in Eureka. A true small scale family restaurant. Even a salad bar that packs more flavor per sq ft than u can imagine. The specials have all been great. The mole' is superb. The salsa unique and delicious. Stuffed Chiles special highly recommended.

Meh I was not impressed, there is nothing amazing about their food and their selection of alcohol is just sad.

simple, inexpensive, good food & to go. For Mexican, you will be satisfied

I'm from Texas where Mexican food is a big deal and I was just passing through Eureka on my way to the Redwood forest and I don't regret it! The garlicky prawn tacos come with a mango chutney and are delicious! The fish tacos are also great with a jicama coleslaw. The salsa is good but isn't chunky at all, which I know a lot of people prefer, it is also garlicky.

  • Cookie B.

Great find thanks to other YELP contributors... Large portions of freshly made family recipes from Mexico. Very authentic and DELICIOUS ! Would gladly come back, but it's a fiery long drive from Maryland to Eureka just for dinner .

    (4)
  • Karl S.

This place is great! Friendly family service offered some of the best Chicken Mole I've had. We also enjoyed fresh and spicy salsa, guacamole, and homemade corn tortillas. Even the Barley soup was great! All at great prices. Don't miss this spot!

  • Klay A.

I was in Eureka for one night with my husband and 3 year old. We found this place on yelp and it sounded good so we went. The owner was very warm and inviting. I am gluten free and we were so happy to hear that this restaurant had taken flour out of all their sauces to help accommodate those with wheat sensitivities. They have a wonderful little salad bar, salsas are amazing and the margaritas are large! We could tell that this was a neighborhood favorite as many people came in while we were there and knew the owner personally. If we ever find ourselves in Eureka again we will go back.

    (4)
  • Mike B.

Just the most wonderful family owned Mexican restaurant. The food is all hand made and tastes awesome. Mom in the kitchen with dad and sometimes daughters serving. Hot, fast, clean and memorable. They will make what ever you want and how you want it. Very good salsas. Can't beat it. In Henderson Center on Henderson with parking out front most of the time.

  • Janet G.

We had a late lunch here yesterday. The garlic shrimp tacos with mango salsa were terrific. The plates arrived piping hot. The little tortillas were fresh and warm and the grilled shrimp served with grilled onions were fresh and cooked perfectly.

  • Daniel K.

I can't love this place enough. The service has always been superb with the waiter moving like there is purpose and being rather johnny on the spot with drinks and chips and salsa. The prices are more than fair with $11 getting you a huge entree served with rice and beans (black beans on request) as well as a bowl of soup or salad (get the soup its always good) to top it off the food tastes fresh and home cooked and its all delicious. I recommend this place for lunch as you'll usually have the place to yourself(they are open for dinner also). For good Humboldt Mexican that doesn't end in "ita's" Oaxaca Grill delivers.

    (5)
  • Julie F.

I love this neighborhood restaurant. The whole family seems to work here so it has a very personal and homey feel. No loud music, no TV, nothing over-the-top. Always too much to eat, so I leave with a meal for the next day.

  • Keljo R.

I had a positive rating for Oaxaca until tonight. I ordered a burrito ($8) and then i asked to get a salad from the salad bar for which i was charged $8.00. i was shocked because i'd had one small plate of greens with some canned beets a few cucumbers and dressing. I mistakingly thought i was getting a salad bar with dinner, but apparently that doesn't exist. I paid more for my burrito and tiny salad ($16) than my husband paid for his Chanterelle mushroom enchiladas with soup ($13). This was ridiculous and when we questioned the owner he said the salad bar was organic and organic is very expensive. No doubt it is, but his salad bar is not completely organic and this is sad that he pissed us off enough that we won't be going back. If you go, don't make the mistake of getting a salad bar ala carte for $8.

  • Lacey Jane H.

Sooo Good! I love how they really shoot towards local produce..they even get their chile's from willow creek! I was deeply impressed, and loved every bite. They have a great salad bar with yummy local greens, and offer a daily soup. Last time it was a vegetarian cream of red pepper which was delicious. THE BEST CHIPS N SALSA!!! friggin awesome fresh made salsa's, even the mango salsa is superb! The family working there is so sweet and they always talk of catering to us vegetarians and will make everything how you like it. recommend it , you'll always come back!

  • Matt v.

i moved close to this place, and i have to stop myself from eating their. I love this place. The burritos are huge and delicious. but their dinner and combo plates are amazing! The owner and poeple that work there are super friendly and happy to be there. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a big, delicious, different, tasty, the best meal every...

  • Mitch T.

This place is really a delight! Nice salad bar and truly friendly service. We only discovered it last week, despite some of us living less than half a mile away. We sympathize with the person who is having a hard time not eating their all the time. We had the fish tacos and the chicken mole. Both are excellent. Humboldt has many good Mexican restaurants -- this one is superior.

    (5)
  • Jeff A.

Wow, what a find. We closed the place down on a Wednesday night. The chips and salsa were the best I've had. I had a garlicky prawn burrito, which was huge. I couldn't finish it. My wife had the massa soup which was very tasty. Her garlicky prawn tacos were also delish. I wish we had a restaurant with this quality in my home town.

    (5)
  • Beckie M.

This little hole in the wall offers up some amazing Mexican fare, and with great customer service. The price is a little expensive but the food is sooooo good. I especially like the prawn or fish tacos with mango salsa, and if you're not on a date go for the garlicky prawn tacos - you won't be disappointed. The server knows all the regulars by name, and is warm and accommodating to new customers. If you're in Henderson Center or anywhere near and looking for food, this place is definitely a winner.

  • Donna Blue H.

What a gem! We are from Texas and we have a hard time finding good Mexican food. But we did here! Along with charming and funny. This is a family run restaurant in the most traditional sense. Mother and wife in the kitchen, husband and daughters taking excellent care of customers.

    (5)
  • Frank C.

Great home style Mexican food, we had delightful service from the owner and his daughter. The chips and salsa where amazing and our food was very flavorful and fresh. With my meal I had a choice of salad bar (which did not look good)... or Clam Chowder, out of curiosity I got the Chowder and it was a really bad choice. Very fishy smell and very watered down, could not even bring myself to taste it. OWNER--- PLEASE stick to your roots and don't offer Clam Chowder in a Mexican restaurant.

  • Cierra H.

Top 5 Mexican Restaurants I have ever been too. Everything homemade, everything fresh, they have SPICY SPICY food which I LOVE!! Service is incredible, friendly and above and beyond. I absolutely love this place.

First time there. Can't believe I never made it there before. Will definitely be back. Fish tacos were outstanding.

  • Sara T.

The man who greeted us and waited on us was very nice. The chips were thick and crunchy, but a little greasy. Overall, they were pretty good. Unfortunately, the corn tortillas were those small, thin ones you can buy at the grocery store for like $3 for a 100 pack. I was really hoping for a tasty, thick homemade tortilla. The black beans had a strange burnt flavor to them and were a little soupier than I like. My husband was hoping to order a vegetable enchilada, rather than a meat one, but he ended up going for the shredded beef in the end. Apparently, if you don't want meat, you only get to choose one vegetable to go in it (spinach, potato, or mushroom). You can't get a blend of vegetables. My 2 year old daughter did enjoy her pinto beans and rice. Prices are much too high for Mexican food too. Almost everything on the menu was $12 or $13. My seat cushion on the bench had lost all of it spring or cushion, so I kind of sunk down real low in my seat. We wouldn't go back.

  • Sheila K.

We stopped in while passing through town. The restaurant is a no frills authentic food kind of gem. The mole was perfect and everything made there with local ingredients. Great food and service!

    (5)
  • Genevieve M.

Completely rude. Between the the other ruthless customers who completely bypassed the wait for tables and the spineless waitress that didn't tell them to get up and WAIT for the people who had arrived first to be seated my experience here was miserable. We were kind and patient when trying to wait for a table on a busy night but after watching three other parties muscle there way past the waitress to the empty tables we never even got a chance to try to food before I felt to annoyed and disrespected to even want to stick around to MAYBE be seated.

  • Stephen M.

Small restaurant with a staff of three, clean and the food was fresh. I only give this a three because there are a few Mexican restaurants that I give a five for taste. To me $14 for a three item entree (taco, enchilada, relleno) is a little pricy but it does come with a salad bar. Only bad mark I will give is that they were out of rellenos for an early evening dinner and I asked for a soft taco and got a preformed hard shell instead. Cleaned my plate and we were all happy.

    (3)
  • Jeff H.

I can't say enough nice things about this "newish" mexican restaurant in Eureka. The chips, the service, the homemade horchata, tortillas, and to-die-for Al Pastor are the highlights of my frequent dining experiences at Oaxaca Grill. I can't vouch for the corn tortillas because I've never tried them...but I assure you the flour tortillas are on par with Carmela's and La Costa for deliciousness. Prices are slightly higher than other local offerings but it is a worthwhile investment as nothing on this menu is "run-of-the-mill" and you will leave satisfied. I recommend this spot for lunch, dinner, probably breakfast too.

    (4)
  • Denny B.

5 stars because the food is awesome and the owners are the nicest people I have ever met. The mole' is elite and they make their own hot sauce.

    (5)
  • Sarah K.

We love eating here! The people are so friendly and make you feel so welcome. The food is delicious and obviously homemade. None of that canned generic enchilada sauce! Their Mexican hot chocolate and margaritas are soooo good! The salad bar seems a tad out of place, but what the heck. More fresh veggies is a good thing. I try a new thing every time I visit.

  • C C.

Family owned and operated. Very friendly service, they remember you and what you like after you've been only a few times. I moved and hadn't been for almost 4 years, and moved back and came in and they remembered me and even the things I like, crazy awesome! They said I was one of their original customers back in the day and they love that I'm coming in again. I always wave to the mom in the back. Dad and daughters wait tables, and mom cooks. Why is this important? Because you don't have some disinterested guy who just needs a paycheck in the kitchen like all other Mexican food places in Humboldt. This is my favorite Mexican food place in the area. It is very unassuming though, it could use some remodeling inside, don't let that fool you. The jalapeno soup is great! I'd rather give my money to this family than any other Mexican food place. One criticism, some nights the food can be a little salty.

  • E. S.

I will never go here again because of the bazaar service from the daughter. I went with a group of friends and the daughter-server was so strange and rude to our table that she made us feel uncomfortable throughout the meal. I assume she thought she was being funny, we politely laughed or sat in silence. I like the food and love the service from the owner, it's too bad...

    (1)
  • Shelly W.

Amazing Chips and Salsa... The young lady who is a waitress is hysterical and adorable and is always smiling. The owner is so nice as well. He always remembers me and my husband. The food is phenomenal. I dare say the BEST mexican food humboldt has to offer... so freaking delicious. GO NOW!!

    (5)
  • Jenni M.

Before I even start talking about the good food, I will mention the staff! Our waitress was hilarious!!! The service was great! I felt like I was treated like I had been coming here for years instead of this being my first time. When it came time to pay she didn't assume we were together and brought a separate check as well as a combined one. She joked with us the whole time. My husband and I still bring up things she's said and laugh. My food was great and way too much for me to eat in one sitting. The free chips and salsa were so yummy and they brought us more without having to ask. When ordering a side of guac (omg so much for the $$$) we still had plenty of chips. I can't wait to eat here again!

    (5)
  • Charles G.

The food here not so great , especially for the price ! This food is great for white peeps that don't know any better . But if your Latin you would probably want to fight these people cuz now were pissed off . Just saying ! Don't come here "" get tacos from taco truck, cheaper . Lol ! :)

    (1)
  • Daniel B.

Excellent food, excellent service. The chips are a great start. Light and crispy with tasty salsa to dip in. The Ranchero Burrito was huge and well done. I will return without question.

  • Jamie M.

Ok so it takes a bit of finding and its not the poshest looking place BUT the family that run it are just great to talk to. Genuinely friendly and welcoming and the food was as good as it was cheap. They kept refilling the free home-made tortillas which where the best I've ever had (and they came with two different types of salsa). There was also a great salad bar. This place was as good as any Mexican I've eaten in and much cheaper than most. Loved it. They were great about my wife's celiac disease making her gluten intolerant. Unpretentious simple, good food. Maybe not the ambience for a romantic first date but I've been married for years so we really only care about cheap good food at this point.

  • Marcos A.

This place is great! It is family run and the customer service is great and friendly. The salsa is made fresh everyday and their spicier salsa is my favorite. They have a large variety to choose from and any dish is sure to be good ( My top 2 regular dishes are the fish burritos and the fish tacos with mango salsa)? The food is great and affordable and can definitely fill you up without emptying your wallet. Comida rica!

  • Jordan W.

Best salsa and chips in town. I go every couple weeks and the guy remembers me and my order. Very friendly people. I want to order different things, but the garlicky prawn burrito is just too good not to get.

    (5)
  • Sylvia C.

Great menu and reasonable prices. The choices go above and beyond the other standard 'Mexican' food in Humboldt. The owner is friendly and service is fast. Vegitarians will find options as well. Will definitely be returning when I'm in the erueka area.

    (5)
  • Joe S.

So hard to find good mexican food up here but the service is excellent and the chips and salsa is superb. Forgot to mention the salad bar was not bad either.

    (3)
  • Catherine M.

The food is good and the staff is likable. That being said, the service is lousy -- and this is coming from someone who patronized Oaxaca once or twice a week. Expect to wait 10 to 15 minutes for a simple refill of water. Also, while the salsa and chips are good, the serving size of chips is measly. Today, there were about 10 (yes -- 10) chips in the basket. When I asked for more chips, I was told a charge of $3 would be added for each additional basket of chips. Apparently the chips are now being rationed. To sum it up, the food is good, but at a certain point good food does not make up for bad service. I regretfully will not be coming back.

carne asada and prawns, flour tortillas, soup, and a coke is the usual add a little spicy salsa and chips ...mmmmm

  • Hana M.

Came here on a suggestion by a friend. Boy was I not disappointed. Their salsa is the best I've tasted up here in Humboldt. Being from Los Angeles and having a Mexican grandma, I have searched for good Mexican food up here. This is it, this is the spot. They make their own salsa, Jamaica, and horchata. All delicious and all worth it.

    (5)
  • Erika P.

Salsa was amazing and the homemade chips were the cherry on top! The service was phenomenal, very family oriented and everyone was so sweet and talkative! For the meal we both got carne asada burritos with rice and beans on the side and the waiter immediately realized we were from southern california and chatted us up about it for a good 10 minutes, such a sweetie!!! We are from san diego and i used to go over the border and get authentic mexican food too so we are really picky about the mexican food up here and this place went above and beyond our standards in every way! I highly suggest this place over any other mexican food in humboldt!

Went on a Thursday night, family of 4, and had no wait. Prompt, friendly service. All sauces and salsas were great, especially the mole.

  • James J.

I feel like family when I am here. The place is a real family establishment, with the daughters and the husband and wife all working very hard to provide fresh food at a decent price. I always leave satisfied. They have an excellent selection of salsa. The way this family works together, and so hard, reaffirms my faith in the human race.

    (4)
  • Jeff R.

Very busy! They were covered up the night we were there, and the staff did a good job of handling the crush and staying positive. The food was good, especially the salsa, but I was a little underwhelmed. I know lots of people that rant and rave about Oaxaca, but it seemed like good, run-of-the-mill Mexican food to me.

    (3)
  • Sarah S.

Authentic Mexican food, friendly staff. I forgot how much I love this place. I've been making the mistake of going to other boring places in eureka when I realized that they have the best food. It's like someone's grandma's cooking in the back.

  • Sonya C.

By far the best salad bar ever!! Each container held something yummy that was made with love! They go above and beyond with the quality and creativity of the choices for your salad plate. "Artichoke Hearts!!" Yeah, a whole container of just artichoke hearts!! The service extremely friendly and prompt. The main courses delicious! Large portions, definitely getting a to go container! YUMMO!!
