It's been over 2 years since I stopped in at this place and it was so memorable that I felt strongly enough to write a review. I was driving to a new duty station and randomly came across this place on my way. My husband and I went in on a busy night. We sat at the bar. The service was great. We had the the champagne and brie soup and the fig and blue cheese pizza. I can't remember all the ingredients but it was delicious. I would love to get back to this amazing spot one day. It would definitely be worth a special trip.

Wish there were more places like this around here. I first visited Brick & Fire shortly after they opened and I was so impressed! It felt like a place you'd find in a big city. I like that you can see the brick oven, loved the photography on the walls. I've never ordered anything that was short of amazing, much better than the majority of the food I had on a trip to Italy. But I have to say that the mushroom cobbler is an absolute MUST!! One of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. Makes me thankful for my taste buds. This is our favorite place for a special occasion where we can have an incredible appetizer, a satisfying main entree and an indulgent dessert (we look forward to trying whatever flavors of specialty truffles they are serving each time we go). Just get there early enough before they run out!

This is one of the few places open on a Sunday night. I had a lasagna and red pepper creamy soup. Both exceeded my expectation. However, the price is a bit hefty. Staff is friendly and attentive. This was a surprise find in Eureka. Highly recommend if looking for something unique in Eureka.

Amazing place and food! First time in Eureka, just stopped by to visit this little restaurant... totally worth the trip! We were driving from Florence to Mendocino, this stop for dinner was awesome! The bread was spectacular, the mushroom cobbler and pear bleu cheese salad were phenomenal. We ordered the Cobe Beef and the Rockfish.... again... it was super good!!

The best high-end restaurant in the area, and one of the more inventive selections of ingredients. As is often the case, this restaurant is in an odd location, surrounded by residential, so it took us a while to find it when we first moved here. Nevertheless it is my go-to place when a guest wants to eat as part of a birthday celebration. The only dish I wouldn't give 5 stars I've had from there was the frog's legs, probably because I didn't realize how tough and gamey they are. The wild mushroom cobbler is my favorite starter, and I usually choose the salmon or beef dish for the entree depending on the season. Ask the waiters about the specials - this is the sort of place where they may suddenly have locally sourced wild chanterelles, fern shoots or huckleberries available (I'm a mushroom hunter myself, so that extra effort for local weirdless is a selling point for me).

Great restaurant for a "out of town experience". Intimate, cozy, terrific menu, good vibe, fun and not over-done. Great for business lunch, date dinner. Very affordable and healthy choices. As a vegetarian, I would love to see the Elk meatballs, bone marrow and fatty goose liver disappear from the "special appetizer" menu. Or, maybe, just have a separate vegetarian menu...easy solution. PS. this is very affordable for diet budgets. Two could eat for less than $20.

While out on a business trip, I was looking for a place to spend the evening enjoying good food and good drinks. I stumbled upon the Brick & Fire Bistro for a very pleasant surprise. My first visit, I ended up getting lucky. I arrived just as the doors were opening and I was able to get a table. It is a small restaurant, and obviously very popular with the locals, as the whole time I was there, I was the only person who was able to get a table without a reservation. I highly recommend getting a reservation, even on the weekdays. Both times that I went the place was packed and they were constantly turning away people without reservations. The wine list is extensive and they have some very good pours. The servers seemed quite knowledgeable about their drinks also, if you're not sure what to order. The food was cooked to perfection. The salmon was fantastically prepared (and being raised in Alaska, I'm pretty snobby about the way my salmon is cooked, but I decided to take the risk and was impressed by the quality of the fish served). For dessert, they have a porter ice cream (which was quite a treat!). If you're looking for something to sip on, the Hatcher Port made an excellent dessert! After being quite impressed with it, I called all the stores in town trying to find a bottle, without success, so I had to go back a second time to have another glass. The service, food, and drinks were all excellent the second time around (and I was glad I made a reservation!)

This place is very nice - probably the best place for dinner in Arcata/Eureka area. It is a great atmosphere, and the staff are super friendly. The braised greens were excellent - red chard, spinach and kale, peppers, and garlic. Definitely go for that, regardless of what else you get. It is fairly small and it's a great little plate to share. The polenta lasagna was quite good. However, my only complaint was that it was a little burnt on the outside - perhaps a little too much fire? The inside was excellent, but the fact that it was slightly burnt hindered it a little bit for me.

We stayed in Eureka while on a road trip, and at first glance, it seemed a little.. weird. But after eating at Brick and Fire I'm certain Eureka is just peculiar-weird, and not creepy-weird. (The good kind of weird, in case you're wondering.) I'm not sure how we stumbled upon such a gem at the very last minute, but we did, and it was amazing. We tried the squash soup of the day with homemade cayenne marshmallows(!!!), the polenta lasagna, the steak, the study of mushrooms, and some wine... holy mother. All were extremely delicious. We would have eaten the mushroom cobbler, the calamari, and the entire dessert menu if we didn't have to go to a comedy show. I literally would have stayed there all night eating and would have exploded and would not have cared one bit. I also love the crowd. The decor is dark and sexy and you could dress up and sit in a cute corner and be cute, but there were also dungarees and hiking boots and all kinds of different people. It's small, but cozy, and fills up quick. Foodie food, but not snobby. All around just great. Summary: Make reservations! Eat a lot! Drink wine!

I found Brick and Fire on Yelp when I was visiting Eureka for work. 4.5 stars, lets try it out. I walked in on a thursday night and it was SLAMMED. They sat me at the bar (luckily I was alone, because there was only 1 seat in the house) I picked out a few basic things and told the server I had never been there before. He asked if he could suggest, and I'm always game for that. He suggested the grilled romaine salad and the polenta lasagna. It is a good thing I listened, because it was AMAZING. The food was 5 star, the atmosphere was 5 star, and the service was 5 star. I wish I remembered the mans name who served me, because he was great ... A little pricy (just a little) but for all around excellence, what do you expect? $36 for a huge salad, awesome entree, bread and a soda, tip and tax. Left stuffed and happy. I will be returning on my next venture through.

As soon as we walked in the door we were met by a surly woman who demanded to know if we had reservations. Once we said no she barked back that they "may" have something available after 9 (over two hours from then.) The place was not crowded and no offers or suggestions were made about possibly hanging out in the bar two doors down that served the same food as was served in the Brick, Very unfriendly. Will not go back,

Great place. Not as expensive as I thought, but still expensive. We ate meals, and left full and a little tipsy. Great neighborhood feel to it. This is is currently the trendy place to eat in Eureka, and the staff are very much 'hipster' and they know where they work is the trendy spot in town. I like how you have to walk through the kitchen to use the bathroom.

Perfect and what a surprise. In a rather iffy eureka area shines a gem. Wonderful. Inventive and perfectly prepared meal. From appetizer to desert. Don't miss it

If you love food prepared with care and thought then you must try this place. My parents and I drove from Ohio to California for vacation and stopped here on part of our journey. My dad's words review "this dinner alone just about makes the whole trip worthwhile". We started with the calamari and the apricot appetizers. Every bite was heavenly and full of flavor. The polenta lasagna entree was incredible. And do not skip dessert. The s'more was an unforgettable bite of a childhood favorite elevated to culinary excellence. Go here.

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner here last night! A super menu with lots of choices and a smiley staff happy at their jobs, and happy to make our day memorable. Pricy, but well worth the holiday extravagance.

They have dreamy appetizers! The mushroom cobbler is especially great! I got the rockfish for dinner and it wasn't' especially flavorful but cooked wonderfully. It had a pretty hip atmosphere with very nice servers. Would come back again for a date!

I am a frequent flyer at this little bistro. If you are going after 5pm, make a reservation, they fill up fast! Definitely check out 2 Doors Down if you visit as well. It is 2 Doors Down the sidewalk and they will open ANY bottle on the wine list and charge per glass if you will drink two glasses out of it. If you don't finish the bottle, it goes on the special list and is a really fun way to try new wines. Dress in layers because when the place gets packed and that brick oven gets blasting, it's toasty! The bathroom is through the kitchen, but don't be put off, they are really great about yelling "guest in the kitchen" and making way! On nice days, you can sit outside on the sidewalk, which my Kindle and I enjoy a lot. Brick and Fire is fun because it is a cozy restaurant with interesting, varied and well executed food. There is food for the wary, and food for the adventurous. My must haves are the Grilled Caesar- which is a head romaine sliced and grilled. This gives it a smoky flavor, but the lettuce holds up to the heat and remains very crispy. They top this with a wonderful caesar dressing (anchovies and olives if you are so inclined) and on the side is a toast point...and....wait for it.....a little parmesan panna cotta. Not sure what that is? Savory pudding, like creme brulee but no sugar topping. It, my friends, is heaven. My friends love the staples like the mushroom cobbler as well. I am a creature of habit and stick to my "usual", but that is a big seller. It is creamy and toasty and slightly crisp on the top from being in the brick oven. They make wonderful little pizzas as well. Good for two for a appetizer and one for a meal. Then I usually move on to the grilled steak with a blueberry ancho chili sauce and a delicious ramekin of creamy scalloped potatoes with a hint of goat cheese. I am not a goat cheese fan, but I like it in this dish. The dish also comes with some greens, and I like to mash those into the potatoes so they get soft as well. My own little personal trick. Brick and Fire, like all of us, is not perfect. But if you tell them something either fell below standard or you just don't like it, tell them. They will do something to make it right. And smile at you when they do it. SKOAL!

Driving in down the Oregon Coast, Eureka was the last major city before we started driving inland, and we were extremely lucky to find this place and grab seats; it was quite busy, and there were only a few seats available at the bar on a Friday evening. Our meal had an inauspicious start as the owner of the establishment seemed somewhat uninterested in a group that wasn't likely to spend a lot of money, and the drink that I ordered was came out of an aluminum can. However, the meal more than redeemed itself. I had the wild mushroom cobbler, which was filled with mushrooms and went well with the cobbler biscuit surrounding it. Also, they definitely aren't kidding when they call the calamari "not your plain old calamari"--the calamari is stuffed and grilled, and it is delicious. The polenta lasagna is also described as "not your everyday lasagna", and while it's not nearly as unique as the calamari, it's really well done, especially the vegetables inside. Definitely a place to stop by to if you're around the coast line that far north in California, but reservations seem prudent.

My wife and I spent Labor Day in the Humboldt area to check out the redwoods and wanted a nice spot for dinner so on Yelp's recommendation we came here. Food: My wife had the Brick Bird and I had their sausage pizza. I gotta say the pizza was excellent; I can't find any fault with it, but I had a lot of sausage pizzas, I guess, so it didn't blow my mind, but the Brick Bird, a full game hen with all the fixings, was phenomenal. Do not be intimidated by the "full bird" part; this is not a gigantic piece of meat, but instead a magical, manageable, roast chicken. I feel like I've had a dish very similar to this a thousand times in my life, but it seems like it's just so hard to get right. Brick & Fire get it right. The sauce, pilaf and veg that come with it just make it basically a perfect meal. Even the breast is tender and juicy and when you dip it in the sauce, well, my brain kind of exploded. I'm sure your grandma could make something similar or better, but as an average home chef, this what I aspire to create when I make a roast chicken. I couldn't get my wife to go for a glass of wine, but it really seems like you're missing out if you don't try some. They have a fully stocked wine bar. They serve nice breads with good olive oil as an appetizer. I also enjoyed that very much. Service: Excellent and knowledgeable. Ambiance: Casual and classy. Great place for a date. Bottom Line: You won't be disappointed with the wine or the food. I liked the Brick Bird a lot, but I'm sure all of their options will satisfy.

High quality food, kind of small dining area, and the menu and drink selection is quite limited even though I understand why. Not the best location (in the ghetto) but definitely a treat every time we go.

I enjoyed the food a lot, the noise level was that of a large raging party, it was fun and festive. The service was prompt and full of style (the guy in lederhosen was a trip). Our waitress got on hands and knees under the table to fix a short leg. all in all it was a nice experience. I'm not rating it high because it was a bit crowded and the food was good but not 5 star, more two and a half star. It's the service and style of the place that bring it up, and the fact they can pull it off in Eureka, a nasty little meth town. Also the waiting room is a bit of strange style, it's a wine tasting room just adjacent the restaurant. There we found good wine, great service and a mellow quite atmosphere and we got to walk down the sidewalk with our glasses once our table was ready. A bit different but good style.

Stopped in Eureka en route home (LA) from the redwoods. Found this little gem (thanks, Yelp!) and settled in for mushroom cobbler et. al. The atmosphere was food-friendly but tasteful. Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Food was adventurous but delicious. If I lived in Eureka, I'd wear out their doorstep.

We had the best meal of our trip here on Monday night. The mushroom cobbler, as noted by other reviewers, was delicious, especially with the mushroom focaccia bread. We had a pizza and the polenta lasagna, both exceeded expectation.

Ever had a "Eureka" moment? I did, and it was delicious. Let's start with two simple questions. Q1: Have you ever eaten at a place you liked so much that you were tempted to take a menu home? So that you would remember what you ate when you wrote your next Yelp review? (Why yes, I have!) Q2: Have you ever had about a hour to kill while you were having your car serviced? Like maybe getting your front right tire replaced after you collided with a rock slide on US-101 in the pouring rain outside of Leggett, CA, and then you had to drive 90 miles on your spare until you reached Eureka? Do you know what I mean? (Awkward pause. Well, kinda ... I get my oil changed at Jiffy Lube sometimes and go to Starbucks while I'm waiting. So, yes. Sure.) Good, then you know exactly why I felt like a kid at Christmas when I stumbled upon this place, broken umbrella in hand, on a stormy January afternoon. I was wet. I was still a little in shock. I had no idea if I would make it to my next destination. And I was hungry, obviously. I had been driving from the Bay area since 4 am (to beat the traffic over the GGB), so I really needed something good to happen. Enter Brick & Fire Bistro, a Yelp find that was on my list of "potentials" if I had time to stop in Eureka. I had the time. So I stopped. Good call. Step one: order a glass of Malbec. Drink it. Refill. Repeat. Step two: order small plates from their lunch starters and make a meal from them: Wild mushroom cobbler with oyster, shitake, and cremini, fresh thyme, and a creamy reduction sauce; Monterery Bay whole calamari stuffed with pawns, breadcrumbs, and leeks, grilled, and served with roasted golden pepper coulis and fried capers; Wood oven Kumamoto oysters from Humboldt Bay, with roasted onion and smoked chili beurre blanc (I had three of these at $2 each). Finish with locally roasted French press coffee. Perfect. Just perfect. Walk back to the garage and pick up your car, now with a new tire and ready to roll. And there was still time to go on an old-growth redwood hike in Prairie Creek before I arrived at the inn where I had a reservation for the night. That's freakin' priceless. It was my "Eureka" moment. Brick and Fire revived my lagging spirits and refueled my broken body. And the guys at the garage who fixed my tire got me moving again. But they didn't serve me those life-saving Kumamotos. B+FB saved my day and kept my road trip on schedule. For that, I shall forever be grateful. And that's why we Yelp.

Outrageously delicious. We were lucky enough to hit this place at an off peak time, which was probably good, since this place is very small. Amazing food, beer, and wine selection. Having just come in from a few days of camping, maybe my judgment was compromised, but this was some of the most seriously delicious food we've had on the coast. Must, must, must see.

Two words: Mushroom cobbler! Creamy, rich & decadent, loved it. Been here twice and that's been my favorite part both times :) Grilled Caesar was interesting, good...I guess I had to get past the "warm lettuce" part but I love trying new things and was glad I did. Good flavor to the sandwiches, although when I ordered the Kobe beef I was expecting something much more tender! The chunks of steak that were inside were pretty tough, flavorful but chewy. I'll go back again though because that cobbler has me hooked ;)

On a foodie road trip and using a combination of yelp, triple d, various magazine reviews and personal suggestions to eat our way up to Seattle and then back down through Portland to the Bay Area. Our first dinner was here a Brick and Fire Bistro. We didn't make a reservation in advance the place was packed when we walked in around 7:30pm. We left our name and went two doors down to Two Doors Down, their sister wine bar. There we ordered a sparkling wine for me and a sweet Riesling for her. We also ordered an appetizer but before she could turn it in, we were called to return to the restaurant, our table was ready. For apps, we ordered the Shrimp Stuffed Calamari, Wild Mushroom Cobbler, and Romaine & Spinach Caesar. For entrees, we had the Fish of the Day, Wild Ling Cod , and a House-made Italian Sausage Pizza. For dessert, we split a Maple flavored Ice Cream with Bacon served with a madeline cookie and 1/2 strawberry. The atmosphere both at Two Doors Down and in Brick and Fire were inviting and hip. All of the wait staff were friendly, made eye contact and smiled at every guest. Any questions were quickly answered and changes in ordering were accepted with grace and composure. The appetizers that we had were outstanding. The mushroom cobbler was a tad salty on first bite but then mellowed out and when the ramekin was empty, there were just too many people around to give a quick lick. The egg on the salad added flavor and texture to the salad and took it to a higher place. The only thing that could make the calamari better would be to put in some chunks of shrimp instead of just shrimp mousse. But overall, it was still awesome! The pizza was good but i'm a bit jaded having had the best at Patsy's in NYC and Tony's Neapolitan in San Francisco. The housemade sausage was good but I like a thinner, crisper crust. The Ling Cod was perfect according to my dining companion. I thought it was just a tad dry but I usually will not order grilled fish anyway. Dessert was okay but nothing special. Pricing was reasonable for everything but the dessert. I would rather pay more for a larger dessert. We will definitely come back for more calamari and to try other items on the menu when we're in the area.

I am giving this restaurant a full 5 stars for the great food, awesome staff and atmosphere. I was very pleasantly surprised about everything there . The pizza is as good as the best pizzas I have eaten in Italy. The oysters were absolutely delicious all baked in the biggest brick oven I have ever seen. Make the trip to Eureka. . This restaurant alone is worth it

If I had one word to describe this place, it would be mediocre. This place attempts to bring in that high end New York restaurant vibe, but I just couldn't feel it. The bathroom was situated far into the workers/cooks area and the place was cramped and small. The "table cloth" consists of a square white paper that drapes over the table.. Classy isn't it? The menu lacks variety and serves the basic, such as soup, salad, pizza, and sandwiches. However, I do give them props for creativity. My fig, stinky cheese, and some sort of pork pizza was surprisingly good. The prices were unbelievably expensive for what you are getting. However, I think this just for the experience in Eureka. A "high end" restaurant in a small town doesn't add up..

Visited this restaurant because it had the most hits. Coming from out of town, ive never experienced a restaurant inside a neighborhood that looked like a house. It was quite interesting here. The restaurant had a romantic ambiance. It looked like a house inside. If you needed to go to the restroom you would have to go thru their kitchen. Things i tried: Mushroom Shittake: This dish was alright. In fact, it was too mushroomish. Mushroom lovers would probably love this dish. I misunderstood what the waiter was telling me and thought it was 3 different types of restaurants, but it was one bowl that has baked mushrooms in there. the first few bites were good, but after that i had to force myself to finish it. Solei: This fish was good and cooked to perfection. I recommend this dish. Creme Brule: Pretty good. Had a nice crisp top. I enjoyed it. Made a good ending to dinner Service: Service was good. Nothing out of the ordinary. This is one of the better restaurants in Eureka. Out of all the restaurants i tried in eureka, this was probably the better one. It was decent, but not the best. Stars: 3

A great little gem - reservations recommended - it gets crowded quickly even on week nights. Our party tried pretty much everything on the menu and it was all delicious. The brick oven pizza was the best we have had in the area. The local snapper looked great and my friend said it tasted as good as it looked, as was the polenta lasagna. An extensive wine list, both by the glass or bottle, makes this little bistro well worth the effort!

The menu was limited but the food was decent. The place is very small & cramped. We were seated in between two tables near the door (brrrr) that were full of noisy children which was a bummer. The service was just okay, it took way too long for the waitress to bring out my sparkling water (like over 10 minutes). It also took about an hour for our food to arrive so needless to say I was about 20 minutes late getting back to work. Thankfully, nobody noticed! I'd try it again to see if anything has improved since then as it has been about two years. But if you're crunched for time I might suggest going elsewhere.

Totally lived up to the hype. If you want a great place to blow your eating-out budget, this is it. We tried the grilled oysters and mushroom cobbler for appetizers (the oysters are not cooked through, just warm and delicious! and the cobbler is mushrooms in a creamy sauce with a crusty cheese top) and I had the grilled romaine salad (again the lettuce is warmed through but not mushy-cooked) and bruschetta for main entree. My hubby tried the steak with blueberry dressing & au gratin potatoes. He said the steak was just ok but the potatoes were awesome. For dessert we had the creme brûlée, marshmallow s'more and a truffle. We had 2 glasses of Reisling and one glass each of the house barbera & Malbec. And a glass of iced wine with dessert (similar to a sweet cognac). So good we got a bottle of each! Small portions but we are stuffed! Morgana, our server was great & knowledgeable. Total meal 124$ plus tip. But each thing was only 8-9$, we just tried a lot of items. Highly recommend! Tiny place (in a residential area), get a reservation! Also, the house made focaccia and Zinfandel Parmesan bread was awesome.

I have been a regular customer at BnF for the past couple years, and am rarely dissatisfied with the food. I am lowering my rating because of the decline in the service. When I first starting coming here for lunch, the staff was friendly and casual. At my last visit, I didn't get the servers name, we had to sell ourselves a bottle of wine because she had no suggestions, and each time she checked on us it was abrupt and unfriendly. Bummer.

My friend and I went for lunch today and were SO disappointed! We have both gone for dinner before and both thought it was alright. My friend's soup was flavorless and over cooked. The shrimp looked disgusting and the clove of garlic my friend had to pul out fell apart. She didn't even eat half of it. She also got the mushroom cobbler and was disappointed. I got a pizza and it had TONS of olives on it. Like I could barely taste the other ingredients. Service wasn't great either. Got our water filled once but were never asked about our meal. For $40, it was so not worth it. Wont be going back anytime soon.

We saw this place on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives. Guy Fieri was doing a run through Northern California, and this was one of two places in Eureka that we saw on the show. We came in on a Saturday evening with no reservations and were seated really quickly despite a full house. The mushroom cobbler was really tasty! We also had the Margherita pizza and that was really good too. Good food, honest fresh ingredients, no pretensions, helpful, friendly staff. The ambience is warm, and inviting with lots of happy people enjoying the good food. The kitchen is open and you can see the owner mingling with his staff and patrons. A happy place for sure! Nice work Brick and Fire - we came all the way up from Oakland to eat at your place and we weren't disappointed.

Just went for my first time! I'd say it's a hidden Jem for eureka, Prices were pretty good! Next time I'm not sharing the grilled Caesar salad!!!!

Am in town on a business trip and found this little jem on Yelp. Went a little later on a Sunday evening without a reservation and had to sit at the bar for about 10 minutes before a table opened up, but the staff was very helpful. Based on the food would definitely recommend a reservation. They had a lot of fun things on the menu that I wish I had more time to try. Started with a salad-was sort of surprised when I ordered a caesar salad and was asked, " Which one?" One is a romaine & spinach mix with a fried egg on it and the other one that I ordered was a romaine lettuce where the romaine was lightly dusted in olive oil, salt and pepper then seared for a short time on a really hot grill. It was then covered in a great homemade caesar dressing and served with a very good small portion of parmesan panna cotta. Really different, but really good! Had the Fettina Steak for the entree which is garlic marinated and was perfectly grilled to my requested medium rare and served with a very, very tasy blueberry, ancho chili and red wine sauce. This was one of the best pieces of beef that I have ever tasted! This also included a very nice side of potatoes au gratin. Considering how great the first two courses were I decided that I needed to try dessert as well. Had the apple pear crisp with home made whipped cream. It also was spectacular! I was a little surprised that the sauce was a darker color and when I enquired from our excellent server, Morgana, she said that they use a little plum and a Zinfandel reduction sauce when baking-hence the dark color. This restaurant is in a neighborhood and a little out of the way, but oh my gosh is it good! A couple of nights earlier I had eaten at Thomas Keller's "ad hoc" restaurant in Napa and while it was good and had some fun things Brick and Fire blew it away as far as flavorful food. I just wish that I had more time to explore other things on the menu because they sounded great-can't remember the last time I asked for a menu to take home with me so I'd remember exactly what I had eaten.

This restaurant has great food and ambiance which makes for a lovely experience, but not worth going to too many times. The most recent time I went left me underwhelmed especially because I had been recently. The restaurant didn't offer anything exciting or new from the last time i went. The menu was the same, small and the specials "were on the menu". I ended up getting the same thing I had before because I was not intrigued by the pastas and red meat. I probably would have tried the fish dish, but they had sold out.

great find in Eureka. Loved the goat ribs, the mushroom cobbler and lovely desserts too. If I am ever back in Eureka, I'm definitely going back

Brick and Fire never disappoints! Wild Mushroom Cobbler appetizer, the Chopped Caesar with fried egg, any of the pizzas, desserts, etc----all of it so well-seasoned and FRESH. They also offer juices made with wine grapes for those who do not drink alcohol, but want a special drink! There is a reason that you might not be able to get a reservation or find your self waiting in line at this place---it is that good and worth the wait.

Yelp! saved the night a couple weeks ago. My sister and I were traveling US 101 and were looking for a place to stay over at before cutting East to Lake Tahoe. Eureka fit the bill. We were sick of fast food and wanted a nice sit-down meal so I did the search and found that Brick & Fire was highly recommended. Boy, you guys are spot on! It is likely the best place in Eureka for dinner. It was about 7pm Saturday night when we navigated our way up the small streets and parallel parked in the only available spot for blocks. It was rather cool out as we hurried our way to the front door. We were greeted by a warm gust of fragrant air coming from the open fire pit in the exhibition style kitchen. The hostess asked us if we had reservations, and we said we did not. She informed us that our only option was to take the two open seats at the bar, or come back tomorrow, for all the remaining seats were booked solid. This was fine with us, so we gingerly side stepped seated customers and waiters carrying platters loaded high with drinks and plates. As it so happened, we quickly recovered from the chill of walking outside. The bar we were seated at is located about 10 feet from the fire pit and soon our cheeks had a rosy glow. This was great, until about midway through the meal we were both almost sweating... The menu was small, but had excellent choices. We both started with the Imperial Golden Ale, which was a little more bitter than either of us would have preferred, but more than finishable. I elected to have the Wild Mushroom Cobbler for starters, and was very impressed. It was very hot, which is a huge plus with me - I love scalding hot food. The mushrooms were perfectly blended with the cream sauce, which was not overpowering as to lose the flavor of the mushrooms themselves. For our main course, we both decided on the Kobe beef Fettina Steak with potatoes au gratin and a small side salad. She had hers medium well and I had mine medium, per recommendation of our server. It arrived beautifully plated with the blueberry chili sauce creating a very nice color scheme against the dark brown steak and stark green salad. Flavors were everywhere, the potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Something about the goat cheese made them just divine. By dessert we were stuffed, but because of a slight mishap (my sister had asked for the blueberry chili sauce on the side, but it had come on the steak) we were offered a free dessert. She told me she could not eat another bite, so to choose whatever I liked and she would give it to me. I choose the salted caramel creme brulee, which was that week's flavor. Normally I do not like salted desserts, there is just something about salt and dessert that does not make sense in my head... but this was pretty good. Overall, I would recommend eating here to anyone held over in Eureka for any reason. I know that if I'm ever in the area again I will most definitely be back.

Great little spot. Cozy and intimate with a great, succinct menu of tasty Italian. Highly recommended! PS: Get the fava beans.

Start with the wild mushroom cobbler. They make them one at a time in the walk-through kitchen, and it is a fabulous way to start your meal. I had a pork shank that was fall-off-the-bone tender. They've got a chef here that understands flavor and blends. Service is top-notch. The seating area is small, so you'll want a reservation. Really, you want a reservation so you can experience the best food served in Eureka!

I dined here about 2 weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! It was my first time and I had been dying to go since I had heard such great things about it! I went with a couple friends on a Wednesday night but it was packed! Luckily my friend had made reservations! Also, because of the weird location parking was limited, though I did find an underutilized lot around back. It took us a little bit to look over the menu and decide what we wanted. We ordered the mushroom cobbler for the table and I ordered the steak. My dinner was accompanied by a delicious nonalcoholic wine. The mushroom cobbler was creamy, savory, and amazing! The steak was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Cooked just as requested (actually medium-rare!) I really had a fantastic experience until dessert, and that was partially my fault. I ordered the bread pudding, and didn't think to ask if it had walnuts in it (it didn't say on the menu). Once it arrived I saw something that looked a little nut-like and so I asked the waitress. She was very sweet about it but had to ask the chef. No one could tell me with any certainty that there were or were not walnuts in the bread pudding, and so I didn't eat it. The waitress kindly offered to replace it with something else, but by then I just decided to skip it, since my dining buddies were already halfway through theirs. Overall I had a wonderful dining experience at Brick & Fire and would definitely like to return, maybe on a romantic date with the hubby!

We were in nearby Ferndale for our first anniversary trip and when I searched for a local place to have some delicious food Brick and Fire seemed to fit the bill exactly. I am so glad we got in! We didn't even think to call for reservations but I recommend you do on a busy weekend night. We were lucky and didn't mind sitting at the bar, however we still had a bit of a wait until we could be seated. No problem being Two Doors Down (literally the name of the place) was the sister wine bar to the restaurant. The lady at the bar was sweet as she chatted with us about the local things to see and the restaurant while we waited for the hostess to call her when our table was ready. (BTW you can order small plates and wine at this place and just enjoy a keyed down and delicious meal as well) Our seats at the bar allowed us to watch all the action of the kitchen and sit in front of the roaring brick fire oven. It was fun to watch the head chef hurl the logs to the back of the fire and manage all the operations. Our meal was delicious, we started with the calamari, but my favorite was the Kobe beef with mushrooms over polenta cake. As spin on beef stroganoff that was so amazing! We were stuffed and I was sad that we couldn't partake in dessert. If we are ever in Eureka again we will definitely stop by to see what is on the menu at Brick and Fire.

Simply put, this is the best restaurant you can get without spending $100+!!! Everything was so delicious that I'll be willing to drive 5 hours from San Jose just to eat it in Eureka. The appetizer was good, salad was good, and the entrees were out of the world. Lamb and chicken were so tasty that we can't believe such thing exist so far away from big cities. MUST TRY on your way to Redwood National Park if you are from the bay area.

The service at this place was TERRIBLE! Server never came by to even check on us! Had to keep trying to get anyone's attention. Very limited menu choices. Food was just ok but very pricy! Portions were small. Itallian sausage on pizza tasted like dog food. The regular Ceaser salad was wilted. The polenta lasagna was ok but tiny. To use the one restroom they had you had to walk thru the kitchen with everyone in the kitchen loudly saying "Guest coming down". Overall the experience was pretty bad. Don't know why anyone would give this place the high ratings shown here.

Maybe I was just expecting more based on what I'd read in the reviews, but this place just wasn't doing it for me. Or maybe I'm just spoiled with good restaurants here in the bay. We came here to celebrate my sister's graduation from HSU earlier in the day. I ordered the mushroom cobbler to start and it was just ok. I shared the polenta lasagna with my sister based on a portion size described to us by our server. The portion was tiny, even for one. We seriously only had 2 or 3 bites each. The redeeming factor for this place was the nutella creme brulee. Not bad. What really bothered me about this place was the clientele. I am in no way saying I'm better than anyone else, but I have the common sense not to lurk right behind a table of a large party and talk shit. Another large party that was waiting for our spot just stood next to our chairs and loudly talked about how they wished we would "hurry the f@#$ up." Excuse the hell out of me, but we were eating plenty fast and trying to get out of this mediocre restaurant as quickly as possible. I really thought my tiny, Irish grandmother with no shame was going to drop one of them. If you don't mind paying lots of money for tiny portions of not-tasty food, go here.

What a great find! We had a couple of the starters, the mushroom starter was to die for, then the grilled Caesar salad, then the sausage pizza. Everything was great as was the wine list, and very reasonable . We will be back when in town.

I got food drunk off from their Fettina Steak and Wild Mushroom Pasta. "Food drunk?", you ask? Yes food drunk is when you suddenly become very chatty about the food you're eating, almost to the point of public embarrassment; the waitress is now your best friend in the whole the world because she delivered the food with such care; and the chef that made you the awe inspiring food? Well you're asking him to be the god-father of your children because if he took such good care of you, he's sure to do the same for your loved ones. The restaurant opened at five and the place was packed by 5:30. Definitely call to make a reservation if you want in. Now on to the food itself. The steak melted in my mouth and the potato au gratin was like stepping into a warm bath of homeyness. The Wild Mushroom pasta had the most amazing flavors of hearty mushrooms, shallots, garlic and a white white cream sauce that is other worldly. You won't let a morsel of food go to waste.

Don't think twice- eat here. It's a small place, so make reservations. Everything is great, you will not regret any selection off the menu. The menu is what I consider small, but that means they make everything very well. I particularly loved the grilled Cesar salad. It sounds odd, but is one of the best things I've ever eaten. It is warm romain lettuce, but not wilted, and it is slightly charred. Served with a yummy crouton and something block that looks like butter- but it's not! It's a combination of creme and parmesean that is to die for. Get the creme brûlée. It's very traditional in the sence that it is more creamy under the hard candy shell. The wait staff is nice, the atmosphere is romantic and vacation-like. Tables are close, but you still have privicy. AND you get to see what other tables are getting!

Ive eaten here a few times and the experience is always the same...Awesome food and great drinks in a trendy bistro atmosphere. The servers are knowledgeable regarding food, wines & beers served. They are very attentive to your needs and our service was excellent. The mushroom appetizer was delicious, the waiter saw we needed more bread and brought it w/o asking...xlnt service right there! Ordered the Polenta Lasagne which was divinely scrumptious but a very small portion for the price. ...I would def order again. My date got the mac & cheese which was not the traditional small elbows. It was yummy & just the right amount of cheese! I've had their pizzas and mushroom appetizer for lunch and they were scrumptious too! Again, xlnt service! These guys get 5 stars for total consistency...this is a perfect lunch or dinner dining experience! Call for reservations as it is a small place!

Since this place has opened I have had dinner twice and lunch maybe 5 or 6 times. I'm not exactly sure why I have gone back. I can't say that I ever left feeling excited about the meal. The ambience is lovely. Small and quaint. Service has always been good. The food, however, underwhelming. This week I had lunch with my husband and a friend. The table was very wobbly and the server tried to fix it. Our friend fixed it right away. Then I sat there in a chair that wasn't level. We would have been better off requesting a different table. I was interested in their special, a cod sandwich that came with a salad for I think around $12.00. The sandwich was not all that flavorful and the cod kept falling out of my bread. The salad had little flavor and not enough dressing. I was so not impressed. My husband very much enjoyed his couple of oysters to start but the pulled chicken sandwich was just chicken on toasted sourdough. The bread was a little burnt and completely dry. So it was super dry bread and meat. That's it. The salad our friend ate looked lovely but he wasn't excited about it. He agreed the oysters were good. He also noticed that my plate had a huge chip in it. The utensils are thin and look very worn. Not something you'd expect from a place that tries hard to be eclectic and somewhat fashionable. So for $57 plus tip lunch for three (there were two glasses of wine), it really wasn't what you'd expect. The value just isn't there. As a friend pointed out...they think they are much better than they really are. I don't plan on going again, which is sad because it's really hard to find a really nice place to have lunch in Eureka.

Brick & Fire Bistro was the highlight of my recent trip to Eureka. I was in the area for work and after a long day I was looking for a warm, comfortable and delicious place to get dinner and a glass of wine. Brick & Fire Bistro was p-e-r-f-e-c-t. I was alone (sob) and gladly sat at the bar where I could pretend I was enjoying my meal in the friendly company of the bar tender. I ordered a glass of pinot noir and poured over the menu. The menu is thoughtful, concise and TORTURE! Everything looked and smelled amazing. Locally sourced ingredients, interesting little dish twists a nice wine list were all appreciated. The bar tender was helpful in finalizing my order as I was stuck between several amazing sounding dishes. I'm sure whatever I ordered would have been excellent - I opted for two appetizers, knowing I would enjoy more wine and of course, dessert. To start I went with the grilled caesar and it was a really nice update on a rather standard menu item! A full head of romaine that they kiss with the open grill leaving the outer leaves slightly roasty-toasty while the inner are still cold and crisp. It was sprinkled with freshly shaved parmesan and served with dressing on the side. As my main I ordered the mushroom cobbler - a good-sized little ramekin stuffed with several types of mushrooms, a creamy but surprisingly light cheesy sauce and topped and baked with a toasted bread crust. I was not in the least disappointed and can't imagine anything on the menu would disappoint. For dessert the crème brûlée called my name. Perfect consistency and sweet-but-not-too-sweet, topped with fresh berries... YUM. Great atmosphere, wonderful menu, reasonably priced and I will definitely be back.

I have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times now and have really enjoyed it both times. I went with my friend and had the kobe beef with salad and it was so good, I ordered it again the next time i went. I also ordered the mushroom hordoeurve. It was delicious. I think the next time I might try the onion soup as a few other people in the restaurant had ordered it, and it looked delicious!

Our reserved table was right there ready on time. Waitperson was accommodating of my dietary constraint. Food was delicious! I had pasta with chanterelles, a few slices of savory pork, and sheep cheese. My friends loved the oysters. I just wish they could offer cocktails. btw I saw one review said they don't take credit cards, but that's how I bought my dinner, no problem.

The food was great. Our waiter was hitting on the 3 hot blondes at the next table. He even went as far as to ask them to join him for a sleepover. He spent more time taking pictures of them then taking care of our table.

I dined here last February the day before Valentines. I'd been wanting to take a lady friend (who considered herself a fine restaurant connoisseur) out on a date. After using Yelp to find a highly reviewed place, I found The Brick & Fire Bistro. The reviews looked great and I was impressed due to the fact that the restaurant opened shop only a couple months ago. Believe me, as a restaurant owner/chef and Culinary Grad, I know how hard and crucial it is to develop that great first impression when first opening a restaurant....especially considering the fact that the culinary talent in Humboldt County is very slim! Luckily my date hadn't dined here yet so we made a go for it. My first impression as I walked on in from the street side walk was "Wow!....I found myself a buried treasure!" The restaurant is in an odd location. The restaurant is buried right in a residential area, which I found odd but it totally adds to its magical splendor. Since it's in a residential area, there's only street-side parking. Love the ambience! You'll be taken away by the warm decor, soft lighting, and pleasant chatters. The center piece of the whole place is the fiery furnace and the open kitchen. The only mild complaint I had was the air was a little stuffy due to the fact that the kitchen is right in the dining room. I was really impressed by their waitstaff and service! They're friendly and very knowledgeable about their menu. Plus, they'll cater to all your needs. Trust me I know. They had a full house when I entered and as I was waiting for my dinner date, I found out that she was running an hour late! (She got called into work that night at the last minute). I told the restaurant about my situation and even though they were completely booked for the night, they were able to work me into their reservation schedule. That in itself did it for me that night. The menu is small but just right! Nice variety and GREAT PRICE! The highest costing entrees were $20. They use local and seasonal ingredients and the menu itself felt like a great host (whoever created the menu's has a great sense of humor! Nicely done.) Once my date arrived, we shared a Bruschetta App, a Caesar Salad, and Brick and Fire Game Hen, a creme brulee, and a couple lavender honey chocolate truffles. The bruscettas we're an alright start. Loved the favor combo of the fig and olive spread. Could have had a lighter spread to ease out the heaviness and boldness of the two other spreads (the other spread was romanesco). The Caesar salad I thought was a bit overdressed and once it arrived at the table, it looked as if it had been sitting in the kitchen for a little while. But the overall taste and flavor profiling was GOOD! The Game hen was simple yet DIVINE! Cooked to perfection! Dessert was good as well. I'd been a while since I've dinned out since I spend most of my time cooking and managing my own restaurant and let me just say. THANK U BRICK & FIRE for taking me back to my fine dinning days when I was in culinary school and eating out at the fine restaurants down in the Napa Valley. Keep up the good work!!!

No public restrooms is a big no-no! Food wise, the homemade bread was delicious. Pizza was forgetable. Price was high. Ambiance was cozy with an open kitchen and view of the brick oven. Have not been compelled to return to that sketchy area of Eureka, especially since there are NO bathrooms!

I've been wanting to try Brick & Fire and last night was the night. Wow, this place is WONDERFUL! First off, the ambiance is hip and upscale yet relaxed and warm. Super clean. Since we didn't have reservations we were offered one of those high tables with a couple of stools and that worked for us. The place was packed! The staff was totally enjoyable, friendly, happy and you can tell they have a good rapport with one another. The gal who attended to us was great! She very attentive and was very helpful. They have a complete wine list and beer. We both had wine -- the glass I ordered wasn't exactly to my taste, I sent it back asking for what my husband had and I wasn't charged for the glass I sent back (which I didn't expect). I had the grilled ceasar salad -- perfection! Hubby had the roasted red pepper soup and it was a perfect balance of flavors; paired with their homemade bread - a little savory and a little sweet. We both ordered pizza -- both were made with the freshest of ingredients and so delish! His a red-sauced, sausage type and mine a white sauce with carmelized onions, asparagus, quail eggs + can't remember the type of cheese (goat?). It was perfect and neither pizza was too salty and definitely not greasy at all. We just watched all the activity of the brick oven (totally open for you to watch) and all the beautiful food that was coming out of that kitchen. We were eating this feast and talking about all the foods we wanted to order on our next visits to this little piece of heaven on F St. Oh yeah, they had some very interesting appetizers but we knew we wouldn't have room for them. Stuffed figs -- oh, gotta go back and have that. A roasted chicken -- my hubby totally is salivating to go back and have that. Polenta lassagna -- Oh come to momma! LOL -- I can't imagine anyone going to this place and not loving it.

This is a really great restaurant. Specials change daily depending what's fresh and available. I live in los angeles. Travel all over for work and have the pleasure and good fortune to eat in nice restaurants. I was not expecting much. I was very impressed. I had the ciopino, my friends had the game hen and the Rabbit risotto with stuffed quail. All fantastic. The best thing we ordered was the trout and salmon charcuterie. Holy cow was that good. Maybe the best thing I have eaten in a while. Highly recommend. No doubt. Best restaurant in town.

I was starving and not in the mood for fast food at 7pm. Thanks to the fine folks at Yelp, I was guided to this place :) Aw jeez, what tasty food! This more than made up for the poor start to the evening. The first impression is less than welcoming. People waiting for tables just stand in the middle of the restaurant and are totally in the way of the servers. When I was there, a host person was not in place and many of the servers were intent on assisting their tables and were avoiding eye contact with the new arrivals. Eventually a server stopped by on her way to the kitchen to inquire if I needed anything...um, an ETA for a seat? A hello maybe? Upon hearing that I wanted a to-go order, I was told to wait and "someone" would be by. After waiting 4 more minutes I almost left, but I was really, really hungry and the food drifting by me looked and smelled amazing! Finally someone stopped by and I ordered the salumi plate, pear & artisan bleu salad, the brick oven roasted vegetable of the day (delicata with beets, pine nuts, and goat cheese). Holy cow! The food was so good. At first glance the salad seemed bland, but after a bite or two it was clear that all of the ingredients were balanced and played off of each other in such a way that I heard angels singing. Yes, that's right, singing. This seems like a small thing, but the bacon fat had been rendered so that it was perfectly crunchy and not oily. The salumi plate was ok. It was probably really good, but I couldn't get past the fact that I never received my crackers. Being a hotel traveler, I didn't have extra crackers at my disposal. The squash was tasty and is something that I will be recreating when I finally get home. All in all, a great place that I'm looking forward to visiting again. While I really want to give them three stars for the terrible first impressions, the food was so good that I'm giving them four stars with the expectation that next time will be amazing. But next time, I will get there when the doors open as it's such a small happening place.

On a Monday evening the 3 of us ordered 2 pizzas and the lasagna. The lasagna was quite burnt! I'm serious. The pizzas were cooked properly but the taste strong and heavy to me. For $48 (no wine) I wasn't happy. -=Greg=- a local Eurekan

Amazing! Had pizza, fish sticks, and baked ziti- pizza was perfect. Fish sticks were small in portion for 9$ and the fried baked potato chips with it were a little weird. The best part was the over easy egg on the caesar salad. Sounds gross but was delish. Huge wine menu. Nice ambiance, attentive server. Shoulda had dessert the apple crisp looked and smelled so yummy. Weird spot- in the middle of a residential area, parking was easy.

What a wonderful find! In Eureka overnight, and took a chance eating here because we didn't have reservations. They graciously seated us at the bar. My husband ordered the handmade pizza with house made Italian sausage, and I had Dover sole. Both were outstanding. Good beer, and a very generous pour of wine by the glass. The desserts sounded fabulous, but we were too full to even split one. The staff were friendly and attentive. Good thing we don't live close by, 'cause we'd eat here twice a week, minimum! Call ahead for reservations if you want a table.

I want to say that this is one of the best places to eat in Humboldt County, every time we've eaten here it's been good. The food is unique, especially to this area, the atmosphere is nice and makes you want to stay a while and the wine is good. We have always had a good experience here -- except for tonight. The food was still delicious and it was great until our entrees came, we saw that the salmon that was supposed to come on a bed of shrimp had no shrimp in it. I'm using word for word from the menu "salmon on a bed of bay shrimp, with corn grits". To us, this means salmon on a bed of bay shrimp, but the waitress thought otherwise when we brought it to her attention. Not only did she take no move to remedy the situation, or even apologize, but she went and got the menu and shoved it in our face telling us we were wrong. Really, that's your reaction? After shoving the menu in our face she told us that she knew the menu was worded weird but that the shrimp was in the grits and walked away. We dug through the grits and there was no hint of shrimp in them, and from that point on she would not make eye contact with us and did not come to our table again until we flagged her down to try and explain to us once more where the shrimp was. Again, she was vague and said it was the quote "semantics" of the menu. This comment was a little upsetting, does that mean there can be semantics on the price too since we're not getting what we paid for? All this says to us is that the kitchen ran out of shrimp, probably told the waitress but she forgot to tell us, and she was trying to cover her ass. It hurts to be treated this way as a local that is willing to spend a decent amount of money on a good meal. We've told quite a few people about this restaurant and had nothing but good things to say until this point. For everyone who goes here, try not to sit in the section waited on by the petite brunette, unless you want a waitress that will argue with you. The meal was still good, but don't misinterpret what you're serving to make it sound better.

This is hands down my favorite place in Humboldt. In fact it is one of my top favorite restaurants ever, even compared with ones in the city! Their menu changes based on seasonal ingredients. The chefs use these ingredients to make the most unique delicious dishes! I was reluctant to try their pizzas because I figured pizza can't be THAT special, but I'm glad I did because they are simply amazing. Also they have delicious homemade desserts including homemade ice cream. The wine list is extensive with good descriptions. They bring out a selection of delicious homemade bread at the beginning of the meal with good olive oil to dip it in. The service has always been very friendly and the waitresses and waiters are very knowledgeable. The atmosphere is romantic with a beautiful woodfired oven glowing at the back of the restaurant. Make a reservation, this is a great place to go for a special occasion.

Reservations....ONLY! But in my second attempt, eh it was great! I love the local ingredients and as fresh as it gets food. Great selection of wine...and they won't hesitate to keep on pouring! Oysters are fabulous, but huge indeed so prepare yourself for that! The truffles are to die for! Bravo! I will be back...

This place is awesome! We were up in Eureka for the first time ever, beautiful city. We are from the SF Bay Area and know good food.... Seriously.. Anyways, the hotel that we stayed at boasts a fine restaurant but I am sure glad we came here to Brick & Fire. For starters we shared a Fruit and Cheese plater as well as Mushroom Cobbler. The platter we had, had the best pink apples that I've never tried or heard of. They were not pink ladies, the actual inside of the apple was pink in color and delicious, as were the smoked cheeses. The Cobbler was out of this world, I mean it!! The Caesar Salad was great, tasty croutons and just the right amount of Anchovies, fresh Parm Reg, dressing was on point too. We then split a wood fired thin crust pizza, now I can't remember the exact name but it had toasted almond slivers on it and I am just craving everything we ate there. Can't wait to make another 6hr drive from the Bay Area and stay in this fine City and dine here again!!

Sumptuous and easy on the wallet. Their homemade bread alone is worth it. We had their bruschetta, tapenade, Caesar salad, lamb, chicken, and a nice Pinot Grigio. For three people this was still a feast. All of it was exquisite, the lamb and chicken cooked perfectly. All the flavors were savory and addictive. The salted caramel truffle and the sage truffle were a mouthwatering dessert. Highly recommended. Excellent service, and nice atmosphere considering the small venue they are working with. Let's keep this little gem in business

Great spot in Eureka. Good prices on wine. Best calamari EVER!!. Not the same 'ol deep fried rings. Great service.

We found this place while in Eureka, thanks to Yelp, and really enjoyed it. I made a reservation, but we still had to wait a bit for our table, so they sent us to their wine bar, 2 Doors Down, which is cozy and has great selections. For dinner, we started with the mushroom cobbler and a charcuterie plate which was a special, it included salmon and cured elk tri tip - both dishes were delicious and we found the mushroom cobbler really inventive. I had the rainbow trout for my main course, which was much larger than I expected and very flavorful. My husband had some kind of steak or short rib, I don't remember, but he really liked it too. Would definitely recommend this place, it was an unexpected find with great northwestern flavors.

mmm...was in town for business and looked through yelp to try and find a decent restaurant to eat at. This place is in the middle of a residential area, and it's pretty run down. I was by myself and scored the end bar seat. I would strongly suggest that you make a reservation if you are planning to stop by, because, the restaurant is really busy and people got turned away while I was dining there. As for the food, I gave the mushroom cobbler and polenta lasagna that everyone craved about a try. Since I was at the bar top, I got to see the kitchen in action and it was really neat getting to see all the food getting put into the oven. The mushroom cobbler was quite good but the lasagna was a disaster, I really didn't care for it at all. Overall, it was a nice place to sit, grab a drink and grab some food, but maybe it was my food selection that left me disappointed. I don't know about the super high rating that other yelpers have decided to give out, because I would beg to differ.

We went back this week for my wife's birthday and had a great time. The food was out of this world, and our server had excellent wine suggestions. While my last experience here was sucky, I knew we'd go back and I was very pleased with the quality of the food and service. Brick and Fire is again THE BEST RESTAURANT IN EUREKA. Hands down. Cheers!

Recently had dinner here while in town visiting some friends who live in the area. It is their favorite spot in Eureka and I can see why. Great selection of micro brews on tap and in the bottle, and some nice wine options if you'd prefer that. I had a bowl of the carrot and coconut milk soup....it was incredible! For my entree I had the Polenta Lasagna which was also quite amazing. My wife had signature pizza with figs on it and it was delicious. The chopped caesar salad was great too. We didn't leave room for dessert unfortunately but hope to visit again and try some. All in all, a fabulous restaurant. You can't go wrong here.

I have been here a few times. Each time the food is delicious and the service is good. I have had the bruschetta, which comes with three spreads; one time the spread was a pate and my friend and I asked to have two of a different spread instead and they were pleased to do so. One of my friends raves about the wild-mushroom cobbler...it was good, but I'm just not as into cobblers. My two favorites on the menu are the caprese salad and dark chocolate truffles (the truffle flavors change). I would say that it is priced well for the quality of food and service. Definitely make reservations.

Wonderful. Atmosphere is inviting and cozy and not pretentious. I ordered the brick chicken and my hubby got the fish special. Everything from the appetizers to dessert was delish and I understand completely the review that talks about being food drunk from the place. Oh yeah!

I thought the food here was quite good if not transcendent--fresh and tasty and often inventive. And the service was mostly pleasant if occasionally cold-fish as has been mentioned (and that's fine for the most part, although this is a bistro after all). I did leave here with a bad taste in my mouth however. My wife and I were coming up to Humboldt to run a marathon and after finding this place on Yelp (natch) I called to make a reservation a few days beforehand. I asked for 6:30 but was told, "We don't have 6:30...I can get you in at 6 or 7 though?" I said 7 was great and we exchanged info and that was that until the next day, when I was called so they could "confirm" the reservation. I thought it was kinda weird since it was still two days out but I was told the local university had graduation that night and they wanted to make sure we'd be there, which I confirmed. So, the night of dinner, we arrive 15 minutes early, at 6:45, to make sure we get our table since we were a little spooked by the call. After they look at the book for a while, I'm told by the manager that our reservation was for 6:30 and we were late and our table was re-set. He points to a table made up for 3 and says that was ours and we can eat there but the table of three is coming in in 40 minutes and they'll need it. I recount my story--that I was specifically told 6:30 wasn't available and confirmed 7 instead--and don't get a response to that other than an offer to eat at the bar, which we did. Oh, and then the three-top got filled shortly thereafter (this also raises the question that even if we were late--which we weren't--they had only planned on us being there an hour before shuffling us out?), well before 40 minutes, which made me wonder about Brick and Fire's veracity. I didn't really mind eating at the bar (my wife did, a bit) even though it was kinda warm there by the kitchen, but it was the way it went down. Basically I was accused of not meeting an obligation at best, and there was never any apology on their part, even for any possible miscommunication--we were made to feel like we screwed up, which we didn't. When we were called to confirm they should've just come clean with what likely actually happened--they mistakenly double-booked, and they're sorry, but they do have bar availability if that's OK. I would have been fine with that. And even if we did screw up (which, again, we didn't), at least apologize for the miscommunication. We're your customers. That said, the same manager gave us good recommendations. But their reservation system and bedside manner need work. I know it's Humboldt, but there are other fine options where we haven't been made to feel like we dropped the ball when we've done nothing wrong--the food here, while pretty good, just isn't great enough to overcome that.

Found this restaurant on Yelp during a drive up the coast. WOW! The food and service absolutely blew me away. We had a Kobe style steak and a pasta with Kobe style beef and truffles. Both were stunning! Also had a fantastic bottle of Oregon wine for about $30. The place was packed and we were lucky to get seats without reservations. All of the staff was extremely nice, helpful, and accommodating. I will definitely go back next time I am in town.

Living in the bay area, I was pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant like this in Eureka. Amazing quality and perfectly balanced seasoning. No particular flavor is prominent but everything is blended so well. The restaurant was packed but they could squeeze us into the bar section.

OMG...the best brick fired pizza ever! We started with the stuffed calamari which was a new one for us. Most places just deep fry it, not this place...it was stuffed with shrimp. AMAZING, The pizza is one of the best we've had. I think they change their menu often, but you can't go wrong with any of the choices. Had the Spicy Pants which had just enough kick to enjoy. My wife had the pizza with peach preserves and bacon. WOW, it was outstanding. I would suggest you make reservations as it is not a very big place and seems to be the place for locals to go. We lucked out and got in when we wanted, but others were turned away. It is worth the wait though, so just hang out and you won't be sorry.

  • Keljo R.

Delicious! They really know how to use that oven. The wine list is awesome and the ambiance is great too. Really enjoy the food, it's creative and flavorful. Although it can be hit or miss....we've had times where the food was amazing and then other times where it was just good and we ate the same thing. Maybe it matters who's cooking? We've tried a number of things on the menu and we've really enjoyed them all. The only thing that didn't make it a 5 star was the last time I ordered the lasagna (which is made with polenta and is usually so yummy) it was a little charred. It was still good, but not as heavenly as the first time i had it. Definitely try this place, but make a reservation, it's busy. Don't forget to order a glass or bottle from the extensive wine list. The service has always been great!

While passing thru Eureka I looked on Yelp for a place to go and this one was very highly rated - and for good reason. The food (we each had the Caprese Salad and Pork Chops) was first rate in terms of preparation, fresh ingredients and very well priced. They have a really good wine list for a smallish place and the red was actually chilled versus the typical 'warm' room temp. The service was good but not especially great which is why a less than 5 * equivalent (although I tend to think everyone either over or under rates the restaurants here). I would definitely recommend anyone going here for a meal and was surprised such a good place even exists in a smaller city such as Eureka.

I was up to visit Eureka again from the East Bay after 25 years. This restaurant was a little gem. Good food, the wine by the glass was nice, and there was a wine/desert place next door. We had the salmon, pizza, and greens. All good, bread was unique and enjoyable. I enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend it as a stop for anybody to have a nice dinner and some wine.

My wife and I ate at Brick and Fire Bistro today based upon the reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed at all. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming. The food was amazing. My wife had a special that consisted of penne pasta, shrimp and brussel sprouts, red pepper and shallot and garlic sauce that was scrumptious. I had the Kobe beef and it was prepared well with a wonderful sauce. The side salads were just the right size and refreshing. It did take a little long for the meal to arrive at the table, but our server brought some bread out to the table. The wait was well worth it for the food we received. I have to agree with Greg C, this is the best restaurant in Eureka, at least the best I've visited. We're anxious to dine during dinner. Highly recommended.

This was must first experience with Eureka before I moved here. Very unique menu and food was really good! Restaurant seemed understaffed for how many diners there were however, so service was slightly slow.

This restaurant could do well just about anywhere - and it is shining jewel in Eureka! We had the calamari - outstanding. It's whole calimari that's stuffed. If you won't eat anything but the most fried of calimari - skip this. You won't like it. It's ok. It's not for everyone. They had a new appetizer on the special menu - Moreno bread. Crostini topped with awesome mushrooms and quail eggs. Ourstanding! The brick bird was good, but the highlight was the pork chop. It's like ambrosia in the form of the other white meat brined in Zinfandel. We ate there two nights - and the following night we chose different entrees. The steak was delightful as well!

I've eaten here only once. I highly recommend it and can't wait to have the opportunity to return. Some great tapas-like plates for sharing, salad was super fresh with organic produce (dined here in June). So please, if you get the chance, go here and eat, eat, eat because it is some of the best culinary art you will find in Eureka. Great service too! UPDATE: I've eaten here a few more times now and recently, again for dinner... it was really, really exceptionally good. Try as much of the menu as you can. They were really good about taking back a dessert... oh, it was the creme brulee that wasn't quite up to snuff (after having had the amazing version from USS Nemo in Naples, FL a few weeks prior). They brought me out the tiramisu and that made all my troubles go far, far away. Yeah... really glad to have this place nearby to frequent. Thanks Brick & Fire!

OK so I feel like it's a 3 star, but I give them 2 because we were charged a corkage fee of $7.50 for a bottle that we bought from the restaurant's wine bar. We ordered a bottle of wine at their wine bar (Two Doors Down, very nice by the way) while we waited for our table to be ready--a twenty minute wait on our 7:30 reservation. We didn't mind the wait too much as we had a couple of glasses of wine from the bottle we purchased and then took the remains with us to drink with dinner. I've never heard of a restaurant charging corkage for wine purchased from basically the same establishment. We won't be doing that again.

I've been here for dinner and lunch! Both were great. I delayed my first experience because I had heard that it was a "pizza place." I figured pizza is pizza, why waste my time going to a strange part of Eureka for more pizza. HOWEVER, this is not a just pizza joint. It's so much more and I'm glad to say that I was wrong. They have scrumptious appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches and entrees. The food is upscale and the prices are decent for what you receive. The service is fast and the place is clean. You can see right into the kitchen. This is my new favorite lunch place. On the day that I had lunch, I had the Chopped Caesar Salad. It came perfectly dressed and it was topped off with creamy over easy egg. The yolk from the egg added just the perfect amount of softness to compliment the tart dressing. My husband had the Chicken Panzanella Salad. It was tasty and offered a great fresh taste. What I like about this place is that it takes traditional items and turns them into modern upscale cuisine. This is a hidden gem, not to miss.

This a special occasion kind of place. You come into the small dining area and are immediately greated by the warmth of the brick pizza oven. The entire menu is worth getting, but pass on the pork belly polenta. Friendly service and excellent wine round out the wonderfull dining experience.

Have been to this place twice-both times it blew me away! First time I had the lasangna polenta and then I had the sturgeon. My fiance had the kobe beef both times. Everything they do is magic! Lots of LOVE in every dish. Watching the kitchen and staff work together is amazing...truly a well oiled machine. Tiramasu was excellent!!!! Highly reccomend this place especially for special events like Anniversary, Birthday...Will come again next time we are in the area!! Dont miss it!

I was just in this Monday with a friend for dinner. Excellent food, attentive service and a great wine list. I live in San Francisco and was in Eureka visiting a friend, Brick & Fire Bistro would be a strong competitor in SF's food scene and absolutely stands head and shoulders above most others in the Humboldt Bay area. My friend and I shared the smoked fish bruschetta variety plate and a caesar salad, I opted for the tenderloin pork chop with mash potatoes and was transported to my grandmother's kitchen - delicious!!! We finished up with their tiramisu which was divine, it had so many favor tones to it. All in all a delicious meal and I highly recommend Brick & Fire to anyone who has the opportunity to dine there you won't be sorry and your taste buds and tummy will Thank you!

It's hard to find a place where the staff's interaction with the customer is so seamless you almost don't feel like you're at a restaurant. The staff here has it down pat. I can't stand when a place trains its staff to clear anything at the first sign it's available. Too many intrusions reflects just as bad as not enough. Camas, for one, knows exactly when and how to drop by to see if you're all set. This is rare for any restaurant. The grilled Caesar salad is excellent, the pizza is near perfect, but the truffles are worth saving room for. Dine here expecting to enjoy an uninterrupted dinner complemented by appropriately attentive and educated staff.

A great little restaurant. The ambiance is very nice, the service is excellent and the food is great. Only downside is that the place is VERY small. How small is it, you ask? So small that you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the restroom. Make reservations or you may not get a table. I had the Margarita pizza with a Caesar salad and both were excellent. My daughter, who is vegan, had the spicy carrot soup (daily special) and it was excellent as well. Nice that they cater to vegetarians! It's a little hard to find this place but don't miss it.

What a great little place! My wife and I shared the Fig and Fog Pizza. One of the tastiest pizzas I have ever had. Washed it down with a local brew and a glass of wine for the wife. Staff was very attentive! If I ever come back to Eureka, it will be for the Brick & Fire Bistro!

Make a reservation! This place is extra busy on Mondays when many other restaurants are closed, and it's closed on Tuesdays. It took two tries before we got in for dinner on the week we were visiting. Food was amazing -- hubby had the beef cheeks and I had the fig & fog (local goat cheese) pizza with arugula. Tried the wood-fired oysters and stuffed squid for appetizers -- could have been hotter temperature wise (packed house perhaps caused a delay between cooking and serving?) but flavor was spot on. Best of all? We inadvertently left a wad of money at the table after flip-flopping between using a card or cash for the bill, and the upright and honest staff there actually tracked us down to return the full amount! We had mentioned in response to an offer of dessert that we would have to decline because we had our sights set on the organic ice cream store at the waterfront (my next review ~ it's amazing!) and next thing you knew we were there at the ice cream store when the phone rang *for us*! Brick & Fire called there to tell us about the money left on the table, which clearly was too much for a tip considering we had already tipped on the card. Very appreciative of not only the wonderful food and atmosphere at this little bistro, but the honesty of the team there and the dedication to going above and beyond to make things right for the customer. Highly recommend!!

My dinner here was one of the best in Eureka so far. The bistro is warm and cozy, if you sit at the bar you can watch the chef and the wood burning oven. The menu is short but tasty and I got the impression is very seasonal. My pork loin dinner was wonderfully seasoned and prepared and the brussel sprout side dish was yummy. The service was attentive but not hovering, and the wait staff offered some terrific suggestions. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Bravo! Replacing the well-liked F Street cafe, Brick and Fire offers something not ever seen in a Eureka restaurant: Innovation. Unique pizzas and unexpected entrees and appetizers are the marquis here. Excellent service in a cozy premisis that would be more at place in the Castro district of SF than a street in the 'bad' part of Eureka. Enjoy, and dine without reservation...but get a reservation, it's busy.

Brick & Fire is a welcome addition to the Eureka scene. It's only been open three weeks and while there is room for improvement, they made a very promising start. The interior and atmosphere is perfect: cozy, warm and inviting. Be sure to make a reservation. It is a small restaurant and walking in will be a dicey proposition especially as word gets out. The food--while good--is still something that needs to be worked on. Every dish we ordered was tasty, but easily could have been kicked up a notch with more intense flavors. It wouldn't hurt for the kitchen to step out and be a little bolder. That may be the result of having just opened and getting one's legs underneath them. Unlike the other reviews our tab came to less than $50 (not including tip). The meal included bruschetta, a wild mushroom cobbler, carpese salad, pizza and a glass of wine. You don't have to spend that much to walk away feeling satisfied. Three stars for food Four stars for ambiance Five stars for potential Give it a try!

Went here tonight for dinner, what a treat. Mushroom cobbler for a starter was delicious, rich, and yummy with bread and a rich sauce. Pizza was excellent, made in a wood burning brick oven. Not sure what is in the pizza dough, some fresh herbs. Wines selection was extensive and the waiter was very helpful suggesting wines to pair with food. We did not have a reservation, and walked in on a Monday night at 6:30, and were lucky to get a small bar table. I would suggest making a reservation. Restaurant is in a neighborhood and is small, very charming, a place I imagine locals frequent.

I can not say enough about this place!!! Parking may be hard and seating limited but it is well worth it. I'm from San Francisco with world known restaurants but this hidden gem could stand up with the best of them! First thing they cook with a brick oven, in my mind a lost art. Not only was staff friendly and fast but the food... The food was amazing! Worth every penny! I had the well reviewed Polenta lasagna (thank you yelp reviews) and it was amazing even the small spinach and kamala olive salad served with it had my taste buds on edge! I wish I would have found this my first night here because with very little to work with in eureka this is a place nobody should miss out on... I will be back tomorrow, cozy fire friendly faces and orgasmic food

Absolutely the best place to go on a date in Humboldt county. My wife and I have a 2 year old and this is definitely our favorite place to go. I always get the steak they offer here and it is AMAZING. great cut of meat and seasoned to perfection. Great place to go.

Lovely place! Technically a 4.5 star, but round up because it is a great place. Food is interesting, fresh and good. Very cool to watch them make it too. I sat at the bar and watched my food being made and fired up. Their homemade bread is delicious. I had the mushroom cobbler, one of the citrus salads (very good), and duck prociutto pizza with quail egg and asparagus. Service was pleasant. I hope they stay in business for a long time. I am kind of with everyone on the "how did such a cool little place get here?" but very pleased it did.

Great food in a cozy atmosphere. This restaurant is tucked in a residential neighborhood which made us uncertain at first. But the service and quality food was great. I would give them five stars, but they did not have any chicken available which made it harder for my pregnant wife to decide on a protein source that wouldn't turn her stomach or make her run from the table. Food aversion is a bitch for pregnant women, apparently! We would go back again and enjoy the decadent Mac and cheese dish. YUM!

If you are in this town (Eureka, CA.) then you should come to this restaurant. This is one of the best of the best places to eat and drink wines. The foods are GREAT, the price is right. I suggest that this place is not good for a big group since the restaurant is small. Only good for couples.

  • Joe B.

Had dinner here with a couple of great friends who introduced us to the menu. The wait staff were very friendly and the cooks were also as i got to visit the kitchen on my way to the restroom. Definitely unique dining experience with the ambiance of the wood fire oven casting lights and smells that only entice your tastebuds more as we waited for our food. I had the steak and potatoes and goat cheese au gratin. The flap steak was seasoned well and roasted to perfection on the fire oven. You can taste the wood fire in most of the menu items. It kind of reminded me of camping flavored food with a definite better menu :). We will be making this a "Regular" stop on our travels to the coast from now on. Good Job Brick and Fire !!!!

My husband and I are in town overnight at a nice B&B in Eureka, which has a 4-star restaurant - but honestly, after a 3-week vacation, we've had our fill of eating overpriced food. And the Yelp reviews didn't make a solid case for eating there either. So, we went to our room and "yelped" Eureka - after some debate, we settled on Brick and Fire - and we are so pleased that we did. Great intimate, friendly setting but the tables have plenty of room between them. Bread was FAB, soy flax and honey oat - all made on site. For entree I had the polenta lasagna (YES!!!) and my husband ordered the steak with a side of braised greens. We both agreed my lasagna was killer - steak was a bit chewy, but greens and the accompanying potatoes were fantastic. Flavor on the steak was good. Staff was wonderful, our server was friendly and helpful, and a manager (I believe that's who she was) came to check on us as well. Everyone in the place seemed happy, well-fed, and sure to return - as are we!

So wonderful words can't even describe! First we got fresh bread, 3 types, which were all good. I then ordered for my main course a Cornish game hen that was put into the open brick fire to cook. I have never had one of these so I was happy that this is where I tried it because it was moist and juicy and so flavorful! The place itself was very neutral but the service was great and the people were very nice, it is literally a whole in the wall so if you drive by and blink you will miss it. Very warm atmosphere. Another restaurant that I love. Highly recommended!

Great meal. Nice little bistro! Enjoyed the mushroom appetizer dish with their homemade bread. Followed that with the grilled Caesar Salad. Both were very good. We went here for our 15th wedding anniversary and were pleased. They have a great wine list and both of us were pleased with the selections. Our waitress made a solid recommendation for a red for me. We both had nice salads. I had the grilled romaine caesar. It was nice but didn't top my favorite grilled salad from Blue Plate in San Francisco. I had the sweet sausage and caramelized onion pizza - very nicely done in the wood oven. They even did two eggs on top for me. I have been spoiled by Piccino in San Francisco for thin crust fine ingredient pizzas but Brick and Fire clearly cares about what they are doing and it comes through in presentation and taste. For desert we had their truffles - one was a hibiscus and lemon grass, another a blueberry and champaign and the third was a framboise. There were wonderful and we enjoyed individual french press kinetic coffee - a local roast. The ambience is relaxing, chairs are sturdy and comfortable, and overall this was a very nice time. Thanks guys!

We were here in early August of 2011. We had grilled romaine salad with panna cotta, steak with potatoes, baked ziti (mouthgasm!), and an incredible peach dessert. The wine was delish, the place was packed, and if I lived anywhere near this place, I'd be a regular. So! Good!

We found this place while traveling through and reading reviews online. From the outside it just looked like our kind of place. Luckily there was a table open even though we didn't have reservations. The place is small and gets busy easily. The waitress was great, very informative and on top of it. We shared the fish cakes which were pure meaty goodness and the side of braised greens were outstanding. I tried the polenta lasagna which was so good I ate it all! The husband got the roast chicken and wow... that was great too. Don't forget dessert (strawberry rhubarb tart) because they've got some nice little offerings there also. Yes, the portions are not enormous but plenty for a normal human being. The wine list was very nice... the Sixth Sense Syrah was so awesome we shared a second glass. Only downside is that we don't live anywhere near Eureka, so there's no telling the next time we'll get to try it out. I recommend you get reservations if you want to try it out... I imagine not everyone will be as luck as us. One more cool thing to us was that the bathroom is located at the back of the restaurant... which means you have to go through the kitchen! We'd eat in the kitchen if we could so it's fun to at least see the line cooking. It might turn some people off I guess but for minor foodies like us it was a perk:)

Since I wrote my original review we have been to Brick & Fire several times, both for dinner and for lunch. We've sampled a good portion of the menu by now and every meal we've had has been excellent - the quality of the food, from appetizers to dessert, the service, and the ambience have never failed to live up to our first impression. Their wine list continues to grow and provide new surprises, and they now have three beers from Arcata's own Redwood Curtain Brewing Company on tap. Anyone, local or visitor, who wants a really fine and original dining experience in Eureka should visit Brick & Fire first. But don't forget to make a reservation, even for lunch!

I love brick oven places. The pizza was exceptional with sunflower seed pesto and pistachio nuts! My daughter had the gnocci with game hen and my son had the skirt steak. It was all very good. The wine selection was great as well. Only downside was that it was very loud. That's what you get when a place is so popular.

This small, trendy restaurant served one of the best pizzas I've had in a long while. It involved goat cheese and arugula, and its thin crust was baked perfectly in the wood-fired oven. I ordered their "nectar" of the day, which was a delicious watermelon lemonade that wasn't too sweet. My brother ordered the steak, which was very tender and served with a blueberry sauce. The wait staff was very friendly -- altogether, a very enjoyable meal.

All I have to say is the Mushroom Cobbler was to die for! The grilled Caesar was also delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone! And the truffles for dessert , did not disappoint either!! To date it is still a memorable dining experience all in the positives. Service was excellent and who knew Eureka had such a great dining establishment.

Very nice atmosphere but not worth the price. The service could have been better and for a small $15 pizza it could have been a lot better. The pizza was dry, burnt, and not very flavorful.

I have to second the recommendation for the Caesar salad and the polenta lasagne - both dishes were absolutely amazing! The bistro is in the middle of a residential street and is rather charming.

Small and intimate. Great food and wine. This restaurant could be located in any city in the world and be a great find. I wish the space was a bit bigger so it was easier to get a table and linger after dinner.

Very good food. Great staff. High end of $$. Not a huge assortment of beer but I found something I liked. On a cold night, sit at the bar. You'll be glad you did.

Best, Best, Best food not only in Eureka but I'm from Berkeley Cal. where great food is plentiful. I have not stopped thinking about this resturant since I was there in Jan 2011. Holycow, I had to see the chefs to let them know how happy they made me with there innovative cuisine and delicious flavors. We had the most amazing stuffed calamri! I think it was stuffed with heaven. The beef cheeks and polenta was out of this world. We also had the crab risotto with perfectly seared scallops. They melted in my mouth. For desert we had a coffee/ mocha flavored creme brulee' and a HANDMADE salted carmel truffle. Now that's the way to end a meal! The service was great with the wait staff perfectly suggesting items to order. They really know there stuff at Brick and Fire Bistro. I wish I was there right now. If I can get my family to drive the 4 hours, I'm definatly going back. Your all rock stars! Thanks for one of the best meals of my life. I will never forget you!!!!!!

I can't believe anyone could eat here and give less than five stars. Sure, the place is tiny, but by the time the first bite of mushroom cobbler hits your lips you will forget all about that. The service was professional, by which I mean someone would show up a split second after you think that maybe your water glass is a bit low, but no one would ask you how your meal is when you are mid-sentence in your conversation. We had the mushroom cobbler and grilled caesar salad to start, which were both divine. Grilling lettuce seems like blasphemy, but as every other review on here says, it was amazing. Then my companion had the steak and I tried the polenta lasagna. I'm running out of synonyms for amazing, but that's what it all was. Although we were stuffed by the end of the night, we picked up an order of bread pudding to go for later because I couldn't bear to let the meal end. All this, and drinks, and a tip, and tax, was just under $100. Absolutely wonderful restaurant. Make reservations.

I was driving through Eureka on a road trip in February and we ate here based on the Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. First the location was great, a little restaurant in the middle of a neighborhood. We were surprised by the quaint feel and upon walking in the restaurant the mood was set perfectly. It was warm and cozy (freezing outside) with dim lighting and a nice crowd of people creating a perfect ambience. We were seated right away and I started off with a glass of prosecco. The wine options were great and reasonable. It has been awhile but I remember we really loved the baked mushroom appetizer, it was almost like a soufflé but I can't remember the official name of the dish, it was amazing. After that we had a pizza with grapes and pine nuts that was just perfection. We think back fondly on that night only wishing Brick & Fire Bistro wasn't a 10 hour drive from where we live. Next time we are in Eureka we will definitely be stopping here again.

Brick and fire is superb. They have fantastic food with awesome ingredients. The atmosphere is modern and trendy without being loud or garish, Great wines at prices that are high but certainly fair. this restaurant deserves a new location in old town!

My fiance and I went in here, curious about what replaced the F St Cafe, and were delightfully surprised. They opened 3 days ago and already the little place was packed! The menu has a good selection with beef, chicken, sea food and vegetarian options. Their pizzas are interesting and good, we got one with figs, caramelized onion, and pancetta, yum! The main dishes were delicious too, I got flank steak with beans, and he got pasta with veggies and shrimp. The service was good, our waitress was really nice. The portions are bigger than most places in this price range so my fiance, who usually leaves dinner still hungry, was satisfied. Though I gave this restaurant 4 stars, for Eureka it's actually 5.

I can't believe the rave reviews. This is one of those instances where I'm ready to not go the yelp route in finding a place to eat . That said, I'll stop my complaining and give my first impressions on this bistro. Basically, it's one of those places that charges an extra few bucks a plate just for being a 'bistro' . Not to get on their case about being 'experimental', but they shouldn't have. In all fairness, the entree wasn't bad (risotto) . The appetizers were HORRIBLE . Do NOT get the unusual calamari.. it looked pathetic.. three full calamaris made the tiny plate look huge . the Bruschetta was not bruschetta... it was a few wimpy pieces of toast with weird 'experimental' toppings . I feel rude writing this review, so I will stop . But, to give an idea... my girl and I had to go get burgers after leaving the place . However, if money's no object and you're bored, give it a try !

Above average in food and ambiance. First, the olive oil for the bread was rancid. I suspect they don't empty the bottles but just refill as needed. I had a sea food combo soup-like dish. Was better than average but not outstanding. Dessert was good. Try it as you may enjoy it more than I.

This is one of my favorite lunch spots. The food is delicious from the kobe beef sliders to the baked ziti. Tasty vino and beers are available and there fresh squeezed juices are to die for. If you like to eat this is the place for you.

This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in town! The service can be slow, but the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is lovely. The polenta lasagna and mushroom cobbler appetizer are particularly delicious. They change up their menu a lot, which I LOVE, and they almost always have a different variety of creme brulee (my favourite) on the menu. A tad pricey, but absolutely worth it.

Passed through town end of July on the way from Portland to San Francisco and found this gem...really had a delicious meal for our group of 4 adults. We were tired & hungry & cold and left with pep in our step and a smile on our faces. Wished I could have gone back and tried a few more menu items, even with sharing amongst our group I wanted to sample more. Everything was great and the service was good but not 'hovery'.

If you're coming through town from, say, Portland or Berkeley, you are not going to find much of anything in Eureka that lives up to your expectations. You are fortunate enough to live in a city with an amazing food scene, and trust me, Eureka just can't compete. But you still want to go someplace nice to eat, right? Where you can drink a really good glass of wine, order a nice salad, a wood-fired pizza or some pasta? Brick & Fire is your place. I give it four stars on the Eureka scale, which means that it is one of our best restaurants, if not THE best. You might need a reservation--and that's saying a lot. Before Brick & Fire, there was no such thing as a restaurant in Eureka that was full, ever, even on a Friday night. If you live in Humboldt and you haven't been yet, get over there. And if you're in from out of town and want a reliably nice dinner, this is your place. They've got excellent wines by the glass and are willing to give you a little taste before you decide. Salads, grilled vegetables, and pizzas are all excellent--that's all I've ordered there, but everything's been great. It's in a little neighborhood, not in downtown, but worth a short drive for dinner.

The City of Eureka should give this place an 'Awesome' award . Great atmosphere...knowledgeable, friendly wait staff...Good wine Great food...sooooo happy to find something to LOVE about Eureka...because for a mere passerby like me, this place completely turned around what easily should have been a horrible experience. Eureka --- get your s#*t together. Restaurants like this..should be everywhere in what was your once your fair city.....so you folks driving through Eureka....stop by for truly first rate cuisine. Your faith shall be restored.

The food and service here are a definite 5 stars! I've taken the kids here a couple times and had everything from roasted leg of lamb to fried frog legs and and everything in between- and all have been incredible. I love that they aren't afraid to put unique items on their menu... and pizzas and desserts are not to be missed, as well.

Stopped in for lunch on a road trip. Grilled Caesar salad was very good as was the mushroom cobbler. Porchetta sandwich was well stuffed and all the bread and vegetables were fresh. Service nice, a touch slow. If I lived in Eureka, I'd be here all the time!

  • J.A. K.

Popular and noisy. Probably the best Eureka has to offer and certainly far better than 301@Carter House. The creativity sometimes outpaces their skill level, and the shrimp risotto suffered from serious over-grilling of the shrimp. Bread, house-baked, is so-so, sounding better than it tasted. Soup and mushroom cobbler appetizer were outstanding, though. No espresso is offered. Their housemade truffles are an excellent way to end the meal. The black walnut was superb.

We stopped here on the end of our road trip hoping for something more than just the average restaurant...and we found it! What a gem. Reminded me of some of the small niche restaurants we have at home. We did not have a reservation, but they had 1 table open thankfully. I had the polenta lasagna, which was to die for. And my boyfriend had the roasted checken, which he picked clean to the bone. There are several reviews on here about mediocre food. My suggestion...ask the server for a recommendation. Our server was very transparent about what was worth trying and what was not. And she did not steer us wrong. Small place, atmosphere is perfect. We had been camping for two weeks and I felt a bit underdressed (wearing flip flops and shorts), but the temptation of good food didn't have me too worried about dress code. Wine list is extensive and the menu has lots to offer. If we lived closer we would definitely go back. It would have gotten five stars except for the creme brulee. Not sure what happened to our order. The carmelized sugar on the top was about 1/4 inch thick - I found myself pounding with my spoon to get through it. Part of the dish was warm, and then the center was cold. Just a little odd the way it came together. Something was off, maybe a rookie creme brulee maker in the back. Our server was fabulous, the manager that greeted us not so great...maybe she didn't like my flip flops. Overall a good experience and I highly recommend.

Very, very good restaurant in a city where good food is hard to find (Eureka). Very tasty, very well prepared and we had the opportunity to eat at the bar, so wemcould see the dynamics of the kitchen in full. Very impressing how very hard the team was working to prepare all this good food. Also ipressive is the realwood (pizza) oven as the centerpoint of the kitchen. Coming from The Netherlands but having very strong relations in France and Italy we felt very much at home. We appreciated the team, the ambiance and the food. One disappointment that I hope will be read by the owner is the following. Later in the ebening a guy showed up in the kitchen that we considered to be the owner, as he didn't do much but hanging around, pouring himself a glass of wine an giving us the impression that he ha some wine already. The impression may be wrong, but it kind of blurred our total experience. I hope the owner reads this and more than ever considers how lucky he is with such a wonderful and very committed team! Despite this, the Brick & Fire Bistro is well recommended by me and my family. Paul

Wow! Passing through Eureka looking for a good dinner, Yelped the area and the Brick & Fire reviews steered us there. The lasagna dish with a side of fresh greens was wonderful. The duck was great too. Nice wine list and local beers available. Friendly staff made the Brick & Fire our first 5 star rated restaurant!

I had heard about this place but had never been there before. It's out of the way, but not a bad little spot. The food is very good and the service was great and very polite. The was very little wait. The brick fired pizza was delicious as well as the flank steak with au gratin potatoes. Good food for the price. The atmosphere was good and the staff was very nice. I would definitly make reservations as it appears they fill up very easily. One of my top 3 places to eat in Humboldt.

killer food and attention to detail, cozy comfortable ambience , sweet cute waitress, good wine list and heh, Boont Amber my favorite, great tasting caesar salad with an egg in it, yum! excellent beef brisket, moist and good halibut and lip smacking good wood fired pizza. The appetizer bruschetta and the desert truffles were to die for. Downside? $150 incl tip for 3 of us but worth it

The food was amazing. I ordered the braised lamb, and it was cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the polenta lasagna, that was also amazing. For desert my wife ordered the bread pudding. It was amazing, and had little hazelnuts in it. I had ice cream with fresh fruit. The ice cream tasted home-made and was very good also. My only complaint was the very low lighting. By the end of the hour we were there, it started to give me a headache.

Truly a great find in an small out of the way store in a basically residential area. I would never have found it on my own! Great wood oven lightly baked oysters, followed by a grilled Caesar salad rounded out with a polenta lasagna. All really fresh tasting and just the right size. Wonderful wine list, certainly not large but very much on the mark for the menu and fair pricing. I normally reserve 5 stars for a really good fine dining, but this bistro fully deserves them! Oh yes the individual pizza prepared in a wood burning oven are also great!

Traveled through Eureka a few weeks ago and found this place on Yelp - it was AWESOME!! Nice cozy and warm atmosphere with the large brick oven in the back. Good beer and wine list. We tried pizzas, baked ziti, polenta lasagna, the grilled caesar salad and the braised greens. Service was excellent, they brought everything we needed and then left us alone! I wish a branch of this bistro would open up in my town, I'd be there every week!

Eat at this restaurant right now. It's a cute place in a residential neighborhood. The staff was fantastic--friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The buckwheat/blueberry bread was baked on site that morning and was so delicious. I'm not even a big fan of bread and I ate it all. I ordered the scallops wrapped in cod and I literally had a smile on my face as I ate it. Food preparation of this caliber is an art. There was no way I wasn't going to try their desserts so I ordered the orange creme brulee and was not disappointed. My server was so attentive and did a fantastic job explaining all the ingredients of the various dishes and how they were prepared. He obviously knew his stuff. Eureka is lucky to have this restaurant.

What a pleasantly surprising place! Because of the location (residential Eureka, in the middle of town) I did not expect to find such a charming, elegant Italian bistro! This place replaced F Street Cafe several months back, still in its infancy, but going strong already! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with gorgeous pictures of Italian waterfronts and buildings throughout. Very friendly and upbeat staff. I was not expecting the place to be crowded on a Thursday late afternoon (5 pm) but I'm glad we had reservations! The place was full up! They have a great menu, delicious salads, pasta dishes, and most importantly, brick oven cooked pizzas! I had the baked ziti, a very tasty cheesy pasta dish I am in love with. The chef was a tad underwhelming in his presentation, he could have spiced it up with more than basil flakes, but it was still delicious. Because of the newness of the place, I don't expect them to be as daring as those at a well-established long-standing restaurant, but I hope they gain some confidence soon. So much potential! The only thing I had an issue with was the cheese plate. We ordered one cheese pick, an Umbraico, which was very delicious. However, for 6 dollars, I expect more than two 1 and 1/2 inch pieces of cheese. Hardly enough to really share with my date and get the taste. Also, apple slices and toasted walnuts are great, but I feel they could have zested the plate up with some more pizzaz than that. But, all in all, a great little restaurant! Give it a shot for a romantic date as I did, or take the kids out for a tasty, home-cooked pizza and a glass of wine for you!

Thank goodness for Brick & Fire Bistro. It is a tiny island of flavorful, local, delicious, well-prepared food in an ocean of restaurants in our area which are evidently owned by people who do not care about quality of food. The prices are reasonable. There is a very small wine bar area and beyond it, sometimes the heart-warming sight of the orange flames in the brick oven. The cafe is a very small space with no cosy area in which one can feel secluded. I'm sure they had to settle due to a dearth of offerings. If they had a space 3 times as large as it is now, I am sure it would be full all of the time. They are consistently reliable. Wait persons have been attentive, enthusiastic, and friendly.

We ate here one night on our honeymoon en route from Portland to San Francisco. Despite the great meals we had in each of those cities, our simple and delicious meal at Brick & Fire continues to stand out. While we were probably destined to like this place after a friendly gentleman at the bar bought us a round of drinks, it was the service and quality of the food made us wish we had a similar eatery here in Virginia. We had a fairly simple meal of pizza, oysters and salad, and it was all just perfectly done. Also, the wine list, which features a wide variety of bottles at ridiculously affordable prices, rivaled some of the best of our trip. The meal itself made what could have been a forgettable night in Eureka memorable.

Great food, really good value (if this place were in SF it would be twice the price). Wine is amazingly reasonable, food is great. Get a seat at the bar - you get to watch the action in the kitchen.

Just took a couple of out-of -towners to dinner at Brick & Fire Bistro. An excellent experience--ambience, food, service. Exquisite salad-Watermelon and beet; game hen with a peppercoen cognac sauce; Fettina steak with a blueberry, ancho chili and red wine sauce; then for dessert a salted caramel ice cream--all to die for. Not a single disappointment. Our server was warm and gracious--a transplant from Maine. This is the place to take visitors!

What a slice of goodness tucked away in Eureka! Found this place based on reviews and research done by my wife, and glad we did! Small but nice dining room, views of the kitchen and wood burning oven, no bathrooms though...so careful with the wine. Excellent meal, we recomment the salted caramel truffles for dessert, the other truffles were not as good. Nice service with plenty of attention, good selection of wine and beer. Get a reservation as I expect this place fills up.

We found this restaurant through Yelp on a one night stop for us on our three week trip from Oregon to Yosemite. I was really tempted to give it five stars, but if ratings among restaurants found in smaller towns are compared to restaurants in big cities, then a strong four is a great review. We had bruschetta, baked ziti, grilled romaine caesar, snow peas and asparagus, a wonderful strawberry rhubarb tart and cookies and cream. Everything was fabulous except that I felt the Ziti was a bit dry and heavy. However, it was a good enough restaurant that I would give the Ziti a second try if I were a local. Atmosphere and service were great.

Definitely not impressed. For the price, I expected much better. When I arrived the server ignored myself and my party for close to four minutes while we awkwardly stood in the doorway near other patrons enjoying their meals. When we were shown a table, we waited quite a while for bread which came missing the balsamic and I asked for it but was once again ignored; I ended up getting up and retrieving one from a neighboring table, as our server watched while clearly remaining unapologetic. The food was lack luster and I can confidently say I can make a better Alfredo dish in my kitchen for much less then $14 which was served in a the size bowl Renata's serves their latte's in with no salad or anything else. The other 3 members I was with ordered different types of pizza ranging from $15-$17 and none were happy with their choice. In fact the only thing anyone was pleased with was the mushroom appetizer, we all tried it and agreed was delicious. It wasn't enough though that I would overlook everything else, I won't be back.

Easily the best upscale meal I've had in Eureka! I actually preferred the appetizers to the main dishes (although no complaints about the latter). In fact, I could have made a meal out of the mushroom turnover, which was loaded with flavor, and the seared Caesar salad. The oysters were also top rate, and the polenta lasagne and lamb with smoked white beans were top rate. The wine was served in generous portion and excellently chosen. The desserts were small, but out of this world - you don't need more. The atmosphere is nice, except that they need to work out something for people waiting for tables. Unfortunately, there's no room. Great service. I can't wait to go back and try one of the pizzas, the game hen, and the sturgeon - all of which looked and smelled great as they passed by me.

My 3rd time here, and again, it was the BEST dining experience I've had all year. Our server, Morgana, was THE BEST. She was not phased when 2 of the 4 in our party were late (sat us anyway), and even when only one of those 2 showed up... She brought us drinks and appetizers while we were waiting and had no trouble ordering a to-go dinner for the missing person halfway through our meal. We had a wild mushroom pizza as an appetizer (delish! and perfect for 3!). I had the Fetina Steak with creamy, cheesy potatoes, and my 2 friends had the Brick Chicken. We were all SO Happy with our food! We also had a bottle of Prosecco (recommended by our server, since we told her we'd be having at least 4 glasses) and beers. We also had 3 different desserts to share. The apple cobbler with ice cream was warm and wonderful. Tiramisu was great and the home made truffles - to die for...We sat there for 2 1/2 hours and were never rushed by staff. This place is hands down the BEST place to eat on the North Coast (make reservations!) And the ambiance and GREAT service make it that much better!!!!

Living in a *foodie* city...finding a Bistro of this caliber in a town I wouldn't expect one is a real treat. Unique and yummy dishes with a ton of creativity. I can't wait to come back through the area just to go back to this place. Only draw back is I usually prefer to have a cocktail before dinner but I had such incredible wine that I got over it pretty quick. If they had liquor it would be a 5 star for sure!! Love love love this place! Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Yummy!

What a fabulous meal! It helped that we were kid-free, but wow, what a treat for Eureka. I ordered the beer sample, all beers on tap from local Redwood Curtain Brewing Co. For an appetizer we got the stuffed calamari- yummy, different, and a perfect size starter. We were then given these two fabulous breads- one of which was a beet/pistachio- the colors and flavors, it tasted like earth, in a good way! We both got the fettina steak with a gratin potatoes and a side of braised greens. The meat was cooked rare to perfection, the potatoes nice and creamy. For dessert- creme brulee and a truffle. Our waitress was friendly, efficient and really made us feel like we were at home. The restaurant itself is small, a nice cozy atmosphere. Definitely doesn't feel like you're in midtown Eureka. We look forward to going back for more...

By far the best upscale dinner restaurant in this area that I've tried. A great wine list, with barrolo and pinot grigio by the glass at reasonable prices (I love Italian wines). The chicken liver pate and fig tapenade were both delicious - a perfect way to start the meal. The chicken liver pate was topped with roasted red bell peppers, a great combination. Our entrees were delicious as well. I had the duck shank, with crispy skin and tender juicy meat, accompanied by friend polenta still soft on the inside. The sauce was delicious, perfectly seasoned. My girlfriend had a seafood fava bean pasta with a white wine lemon sauce. That sauce was great - lively, acidic, garlicy, peppery. The seafood was perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. I really prefer a wine-based sauce to alfredo - a lot lighter and more tasty. Plus fava beans are always delicious. Our service was great and I really like the ambiance. It's an interesting location for a restaurant, in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I recommend this place highly. Not too expensive either, compared to restaurants like Avalon, Hurrican Kate's, Folie Duece, etc.

Went back again for my birthday dinner after my fantastic lunch experience. Had some really nice tea (give me a break, it was cold that night!) and they served us lovely walnut bread as an appetizer. I ordered the grilled ceasar again as a starter, and finished with scallops with pan fried winter squash and a celery pilaf. Everything. Was. Magnificent. Maybe my favorite eatery in Humboldt.

We were passing through town and were so lucky to have found this place on Yelp. It was exactly what we were looking for. A cute neighborhood restaurant with warm ambiance. We loved their beer choices and the brick oven pizza. The service was also so friendly and attentive. We would be regulars if we lived close by.

My husband is allergic to garlic and onion and this makes it very difficult to eat out at nice restaurants. I called before going and talked to the chef, he went over the menu, which had very few items that didn't include one of these and then check their refrigerator and offered to customize the steak (usually marinated in garlic). We made a reservation and then had a very delicious dinner there. My husband's steak was melt in your mouth delicious, he also got the roasted squash which was to die for and actually made the potatoes pale in comparison. It came with a small salad and they customized the dressing to exclude the garlic. I had a delicious carrot, ginger and leek soup with braised beef cheeks and polenta. Everything was delicious, the waitress was great and we had a wonderful time there. The restaurant itself is warmly decorated but a little noisy. We will be back.

We stopped in without a reservation early in the evening and were seated immediately. We were warned by our server that if we plan to eat later in the evening, reservations are a good idea and I can see why! I love the calm funky atmosphere. The food is top drawer, yet we were comfortable there in jeans. We had the duck breast and the game hen with grilled asparagus on the side. The duck breast was perfectly prepared and served with a delicious cheesy polenta. The game hen was delicately seasoned and also delicious. The asparagus was served with balsamic reduction and pine nuts and again perfectly prepared. We love the local micro brew beer choices and the wine selection was good also. The servers were very friendly and not so rushed that we couldn't chat with them briefly. We will be back many times in future.

What a great experience! So often I am disappointed by meals eaten in Eureka, so I guess my expectations were low to begin with, however even if they had been high I would have been more than satisfied. Not only was I thrilled with all of my food but my husband was as well! The calamari appetizer was truly a culinary experience, developing it's flavor with every bite- make SURE to squeeze the lemon provided all over the dish in order to fully appreciate it. My husbands pasta was great and the desserts were almost torture to hear about since we were already so full. I was also impressed with our server, who gave us great service as well as insightful information about the menu. I plan to try and eat here as much as possible & hope they have great success. As a fellow restaurant owner I can honestly say this is my favorite restaurant in Eureka!

It's only because of the generosity of the owner, after our disappointing dinner, we will try Brick and Fire again. First, we were seated and received different menus, none of which were current for the dinner menu that night. Service was poor. Based on other reviews here it seems Brick and Fire is inconsistent. We ordered the Grilled Caeser Salad, not a half heart as other reviewers mentioned. The blackened crostini should not have been served as burnt as it was. Our bread basket had only focaccia, not the three breads other reviewer mentioned. Tuscan bean soup was ok. The beans weren't quite cooked enough. Sweet sausage pizza with carmelized onions was not good. It was bland and the onions were for lack of a better word mushy. Mushroom cobbler was tasty, easily the best thing we ordered. Entrees were disappointing. Morel pasta with fava and garbanzo beans and carmelized sweet potato in a cream sauce with sage was served without the cream sauce, fava or garbanzo beans. Pasta was over cooked. Flavor was good however it was not as described on the menu. Scallops were served with a sunflower pilaf, sauce was delicious but everything on the plate except the scallops was served cold. When asked about the temperature the waiter offered to have the plate reheated. Yes, reheated. After we said no, please don't reheat the seafood dish he offered to bring another. Baked ziti sauce was broken. Again just ok. If I had cooked it and served it at home I'd eat it anyway but Brick and Fire should get this right. Thank you Brick and Fire for trying to bring us an interesting menu but, simplify things until you get them right. Again because the owner was very generous we will give Brick and Fire another shot.

What a delight this was. I swore after we went that I'd write a review - but it was at least a few weeks since we went so I'll have to evoke the full memory. Like others we loved the new ambiance and feel. The tables were lively and still filling up all the way through 9:30 (which is not the norm in Eureka.) We started with a version of a caesar salad that came with a fried egg on top - awesomely decadent and delicious. The mushroom cobbler was incredible though the topping could have been a little less hard. I had the roasted hen which I thought was incredible and took a lot home intending for lunch the next day till my daughter bogarted it, hmmmm. Husband had a flank steak that makes my mouth water thinking about it. It came with a ill conceived berry relish type sauce that was delicious on its own but not with the steak. That steak though was perfection. We were on a roll so we went for dessert too. The coffee ice cream with perfect cardamon cookies, oh my. And the chocolate bread pudding, wowzer. I got the impression the owner and staff had no idea just how great the place is. This is their first restaurant! They were all attentive and wonderful. Everyone should go to this place. There is simply nothing else like it. One day I hope to give it that last star.

My friend knows I like to eat, so I was in charge of picking a restaurant. This was my first choice for Eureka. We came here around 7:30 PM and the place was busy with tables already reserved. There were only two small tables outside that were available. We were given complimentary bread- cranberry almond and kale/hemp seed. I only tried the kale/hemp seed because I didn't want to fill up before the big meal ahead. The bread is made in house. I liked that it's not the typical bread basket you get at other places. Wood-oven Roasted Oysters- local Humboldt Bay Kumamotos I love oysters, and these were especially good. Wild Mushroom Cobbler- with shitake, porcini, crimini and oyster mushrooms, baked in the wood-fired oven with cheesy biscuit atop Because the people of yelp raved about it, I decided I needed to try it. I love mushrooms, but this was a bit too rich for me. Apricots & Goat Cheese Salad- topped with a pan-fried sesame & sunflower seed crusted medallion of local goat cheese with toasted almonds & a sherry vinaigrette Got to have some greens! My friend and I finished every last bite of this. The vinaigrette was tasty. Wild Lobster Mushroom & Pork Belly Fettucini- a sauté of local mushrooms with garlic, shallot, squash blossoms, heirloom sun gold and baby heirloom tomatoes, lemon Thai basil, white wine lemon beurre blanc sauce... topped with balsamic Chile braised pork belly and fresh ricotta We were already full when our entrée came out. My friend and I misread the menu. We read "wild lobster, mushroom" when it was "wild lobster mushroom". We kept looking for the lobster. Service was friendly, but I had to ask for the dessert menu 3 times. I first asked for the menu at the beginning of the meal because I wanted to know if I need to make room for it or not. Crème brulee- Chai It's one of my favorite desserts. I was stuffed but once I found out the flavor, I HAD to order it. I love trying different flavors of crème brulee and this didn't disappoint. Good food makes me happy and I thoroughly enjoyed my 5 course meal! :)

The restaurant is small so make sure you have a reservation. The menu is nice but if you don't eat mushrooms, chicken in the bone, or are a vegetarian there are limited options. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the au gratin potatoes are amazing! The fig goat cheese/ricotta Campanella pasta special was good but there pancetta was rubbery and uncooked. It would have added a nice bacon flavor had it been crispy. The wine and beer selection was nice. We will try it again!

Cute little spot in a neighborhood a bit off the main drag with a wine bar next door. Great service and great food. We got the roasted oysters, along with the lasagna, and daily vegetable. We finished with their homemade ice cream. Everything was fresh and flavorful, but the oysters were definitely the highlight. The Lasagna could have used a bit more cheese, and the ice cream was a little grainy/crumbly giving it an odd texture.

Apparently you can charge high prices, provide abysmal service, and still have a 4.5 star rating on Yelp? Me thinks not. Stopped by for dinner Thursday evening at around 7pm. Inside the restaurant was maybe 75% capacity, but we were told that due to reservations we couldn't be seated until 8:30pm. However we were offered one of the two tables outside on the sidewalk. Not wanting to wait, we obliged. After sitting down and taking a look at the menu, we started to wonder if we had already been forgotten. After 15 minutes, the waiter finally meandered outside (after having walked by us several times next door to the wine bar) to take our order and bring us bread. Another 30 minutes go by. Finally, our roasted oysters arrive. At $2.50 a piece, they were tasty and worth it. Then 20 minutes go by. The GF's polenta lasagna and my Italian mac & cheese are brought over. My mac & cheese was very tasty and certainly much flared up from something found in a Kraft box, but I question if it was $17 dollars good. The GF said the same thing about her lasagna. After finishing our meal, we waited and waited for our server to come back. Finally he comes by with dessert menus. GF and I were going to order dessert but after being at the restaurant for almost 2 hours and waiting so much we just had enough. I ended up having to walk inside and ask for the check. No complaints about the food. It was tasty and a little bit overpriced. But you know what? There's great food just about anywhere you go. At an establishment like this that calls itself a "bistro", service should at least above average.

We wanted to love the food after reading the menu, but they really didn't deliver on flavors. I had the steak and it lacked basic salt and pepper and was too chewy (yes it's more of a hangar cut, but this was excessive). The potato au gratin was good and rescued the plate somewhat but the tiramisu brought it back down since it resembled a cake more than a tiramisu.

Brick & Fire Bistro is a cozy gourmet.venue featuring local fresh, organic & artisan crafted dishes. The menu changes daily & they successfully utilize (what is said to be ) the largest brick oven North of San Fran. Atmosphere is small but comfortably so. Food is amazing. Service is good ~ but a bit of a struggle when super-busy

This was unfortunate. We came on a Thursday night at 7:00. Inside was half full but reserved for reservations so the options were outside or wait till 830. Okay it was sunny out, we decided to eat outside, it was a beautiful day. We got some waters. Ordered roasted oysters with garlic. $2.50 each. Very tasty. And polenta lasagna for myself. Boyfriend got Mac & cheese. After questioning our wait, we got our bread basket. Shortly after our oysters. I felt abandoned by our server. He was nice but rarely seen. Finally... Dinner is served. Piping hot Mac & cheese & my polenta lasagna. We loved our meals! Polenta lasagna, vegetarian. So good, so much flavor. Amazing. $17 Note: Small dishes. So why only 1 star??? Oh well then we waited waited waited... Cause you know we have nothing better to do. At this point it's about 8. We loved our dinner and thought we'd check out dessert. We got the dessert menu and our server disappeared! Again! So it's 8:30 and it's cold & getting dark. My boyfriend goes In and asks for the check. No longer interested in dessert after 2 hours!!!! Absolutely terrible service & extremely overpriced food!! Oh and the 2 doors down : same service!! (Same restaurant!)

Had lunch there this month with two friends - the service was very good. Going just before noon turned out to be the best time to go - not crowded and very comfortable noise-wise. Mushroom cobbler a huge hit, as was the very fresh and extremely delicious tomato mozzarella caprese salad with fresh strawberries and almonds. Will definitely have to return for dinner sometime!

This place is delicious!! The portions are good for 1-2 people (depending on how much you eat) with none left over. We had the Beet & Goat Cheese Salad, Polenta Lasagna, and house tiramisu. Salad: Delicious. Goat cheese was really good and paired well with the salad and dressing. Lasagna: delicious. Polenta was creamy but not overbearing. You get a mini salad on the side. Tiramisu: Good. Creamy. It was good; not amazing, but good.

I tend to hate acronyms, but OMG. A few months back, my partner and I took some out of town guests here and we couldn't have been more satisfied. I ordered the wild mushroom cobbler as an appetizer, which is one of the best things I've eaten. Mushrooms are one of my favorite things and I was thrilled to see local wild ones in so many of the dishes. I had the butternut squash gnocchi for my main, and while it didn't compare to the mushroom cobbler, it was still quite flavorful and a decent sized portion. And it still tasted great the next day reheated as lunch!

Absolutely amazing! Delicious food friendly staff. Definitely make a reservation if you can. The long cod and rock fish was perfectly cooked and had great flavor. My girlfriend had the game hen and it was delicious. Manager recommended some great places to stop on our road trip.

Really tasty italian influenced bistro, with very real and fair prices. The menu is small but well targeted towards innovative pizza recipes, and filling out around that. The oven, wine bar and decor in general are pleasing to the eyes, fun and different. A great date spot, tough for large parties, or families. Food wise things are really interesting here, lots of excellent flavors to discover. For appetizers we tried the stuffed calamari. It was very different and a bit rich. My son had the Fettina steak, the glazed flavors were amazing. That dish seemed to be number one, on the table for overall 'excellence'. My mom had the polenta lasagna, excellent combination of flavors, a little light on moisture, still a very bold and well thought out dish. The extra spinach was a real bonus for so much richness and flavor on the lasagna. It definitely was runner up to the steak for 5 star gastronomy. I had a carpaccio pizza and shared that with my wife who ordered the mushroom cobbler. A bit less stunning. The food is yummy, a tad on the rich side. Book you yoga class in advance. Items like the mac and cheese, i found too rich. The staff is lovely. But service is a bit spotty here. The wine list is far bigger and bolder than you would expect. The fact that they provide Amador Barbera, as a house red is very cool. A really strong, popular and rounded establishment, but pick an off time to get in, or call ahead. I think for this area it is a 5 star place, but I can't go there.

Staff: Eclectic and attentive. We didn't have reservations but they found a couple of seats for us, at the bar. Our server reminded me of Freddy Mercury. Very interesting to have a view of the organized chaos of the kitchen. Ambience: The place is very small. Seating for about 30. It is very noisy especially at the bar but you can still have a conversation with your dining companions. Our view from the bar at the edge of the kitchen was kind of fun. Lots of action and you can look right into the brick fired oven. It is a bit warm to sit here though. Funny deal with the restroom. You have to walk through the kitchen and through the chaos to get to it. Just adds to the experience. Food: Appetizer-Stuffed Apricots. Very good. Lots of flavors exploding on your palate. Sweet. Sour. Meat. Cheese. Spinach. Awesome! Main course- Black Bird - fire roasted game hen over rice with a melody of seeds. The bird was very tasty and spiced just right. It was a tad bit dry but they smoky taste kind of played well with that. I went with the recommended wine pairing and it was perfect. Polenta lasagna. Smoky flavor with roasted red peppers and eggplant with a side salad of spring greens. Slightly sweet but the cheese balanced out the flavors. Almost a pizza like taste. Very good. Desert - creme brûlée. Very chocolaty. Had fresh cut strawberries on top and under the crust a very sweet chocolate creme. Very delicious. Overall: A very fun and exciting time. I will definitely dine here again.

Sorry for pic of half devoured chocolate marscapone cheesecake! Best I ever had. It was The best of both worlds; rich brownie and perfectly light cheesecake. The food was delicious had the 4 mushroom cobbler as appetizer, "yummy" & so was the lasagna but it was all about the cheesecake worthy of a celebration!

Yum yum yum! I'm posting this review because the "brick bird" hen (an entire hen with rice and a peppery sauce) I had for dinner was delicious!! Great ambiance - a bit small - reservations recommended but we got in after a short wait, which we spent drinking wine at "Two Doors Down" - not near any busy commercial area - service was decent (our waitress was nice but disappeared a couple of times when we needed water refills). Also the bread and olive oil at the table was good. We had a Salumi plate that was average. My meal took awhile, but it was a small kitchen that cooked an entire hen for me so it was to be expected. I felt bad for my table-mate who only ordered a salad (which was tasty too, but took so long considering my order).

  • Robert V.

Basic bar food: We had the apricot salad which was OK as was the Mac and Cheese (hungry man portion!) The sausage pizza was not as crispy as I like and the tomato sauce tasteless. The mushroom cobbler tasted like it came out of a can with the main ingredients entombed with a layer of crust. We had the roasted vegetable sampler which appeared to be fresh but served lukewarm. Friendly wait staff. Kitchen staff overworked and appeared frazzled (we sat at the bar and thus could see more that we wanted to.) Kinda beat up atmosphere, not intimate or inviting - needs a major refresh in my opinion. Sad if this really is the best Eureka has to offer!

After seeing great reviews on Yelp went to Brick and Fire. Service was very attentive and friendly. The grilled Caesar was unique and delicious. However the mushroom cobbler is heaven for mushroom lovers. The Kobe Steak sandwich, Caprese BLT and Italian Mac And Cheese were all incredible. So different. The steak fries were excellently prepared in the wood fire oven but just didn't care for soft texture. Prefer "fried" crisp. Will return when visiting Eureka again.

I'd read about Brick & Fire and had seen it on various TV shows, so I knew that as my family and I visited Eureka as part of our drive through the Pacific Northwest, it was a must-visit location. On the other hand, I had some degree of trepidation, as highly-profiled restaurants rarely live up to the hype. Thankfully, Brick & Fire turned out to be even better than I could have imagined: 1. Service was beyond friendly. My wife and I were traveling with our infant son, and everyone in the restaurant went out of their way to talk with us and make us feel welcome. 2. The wine list would put many San Francisco establishments to shame, with a great variety of local selections, including a number of rarities, all at reasonable prices. 3. And finally, the food was incredible. The wild mushroom cobbler and the fire-roasted brick bird were as good as advertised, and the steak was a hit, as well--again, all with reasonable prices. If you're visiting Eureka, be smarter than we were and make a reservation. We assumed that on a Monday night, it would be easy to be a walk-in, only to luck out and snag the last free table of the evening, as there was a line out the door.

I had the wild mushroom cobbler a few weeks back. Hubby had oysters. So delicious. they have good tea and great cocktails. They need a Happy hour. Humboldt County needs a happy hour cause there aren't a lot of places with one. This bistro is expensive and reservations are HIGHLY recommended. I really enjoy going here and look forward to my next visit.

Wow. I love this place. It's a small, intimate place which is why you need to make sure you reserve in advance. We were very lucky to get 2 seats at the bar at 5pm sharp on a Friday night. The service staff we encountered had a little bit of an attitude, which is annoying, but warmed up after some time. Great wine list, great beer on tap. Had appetizers, entrees and a pizza (flatbread?) and all were absolutely delicious. My wine was expensive (there were cheaper ones on the menu, but the one I wanted was exorbitantly priced) but everything else was reasonable for what you are getting. The kitchen staff is talented and fun to watch. I love open kitchens. You do have to go through the kitchen to go to the bathroom which seems inconvenient for everyone involved but no one complains - out loud at least :) Definitely go!

Good food and great selection of wine. The brick oven probably has a lot to do with the popularity because the food taste good but it's not everything that it everyone seems to rave about. We had the grilled romaine which was good. Three different pizzas which were all a little dry and not so exciting. The wine bar next door is nice but the server there was not very enjoyable. The service in the restaurant was better. I would return, especially for the wine bar, but with average expectations for the food. And make reservations!

We were referred here by our bed & breakfast which is over 20 miles away. Wow. This place is amazing. The food is truly outstanding. This restaurant would be successful anywhere. We had the Italian mac and cheese pasta, artichoke and coppa pizza, and the Cesar salad which came with a yummy fried egg. The egg sounds weird, but it was sooooo good. One cool experience is that you have to walk through a gorgeous kitchen to get to the bathroom. The bathroom was very impressive with how clean and pretty it was. I wish every restaurant had bathrooms like this. Another thing I liked is the professionalism of the kitchen staff. They look very focused. Go out of your way and eat here.

Really Delicious! I have been to this restaurant a few times now and I have not been disappointed yet. I appreciate that the menu changes periodically with the fruits/veggies available at the time. This makes me feel as though I am getting the best quality meal they can offer. The service is always great, I have never had a bad experience with the employees and I have never heard of any issues with the staff at this bistro. The fact that they offer many different choices that aren't on the typical menu gives one a chance to try something new. I would definitely recommend to my friends and family. This is a great spot to eat at with family or friends from out of town who you want to treat!

Exceeded expectations - delicious, every bite Great wine suggestions. The server couldn't have been more pleasant. The food was of the highest quality without being fussy or pretentious -what I would call comfort food at it's most sophisticated. A great experience.

My husband and I made reservations here for our anniversary. When we arrived our table wasn't ready so we had to wait for 15 min for one to open up. Unfortunately the food was not worth the wait. I had one of their little pizzas, which wasn't bad, but my husband ordered the ziti and it was horrible. Sour and gritty, with a flavor that reminded me slightly of vomit. It was not a fun experience, and we will not be back.

Yum. This Beast-ro is D-licious. They use mushrooms in a lot of dishes, so if you like mushrooms, you are in the right place. If you don't like mushrooms, there are lots of other items to choose from. I really like their brick fire and the overall vibe is cozy. Their wine list is extensive. It would be nice if the space was a bit larger, perhaps this is why they opened a "sister restaurant" called Two Doors Down on the same block. Two Doors Down is a bit more focused on wine, but you can get food from Brick and Fire brought over if you want. If you are celebrating a special occasion or simply want to spoil yourself or a loved one, go to Brick and Fire, you will not be disappointed.

Really, really well done place! Small and intimate, yet doesn't feel crowded. Our server, Jackie, was really friendly and was solicitous but not overly so. The food was excellent! We had both of the vegetable sides, grilled asparagus and Brussels sprouts(cooked and seasoned perfectly) and the cooked kale and greens. The mushroom cobbler was really woodsy and flavorful, and the Margherita pizza had the best crust(no sogginess in the middle!) that I've had in a while. Best dining experience in 3 days in Eureka!

Great little restaurant in Eureka. I do emphasize little. There are only about 8 tables so reservations are a good idea. The food is very good. Pizza is my recommendation. I didn't like the stuffed calamari appetizer.

I've had many wonderful lunches here but never a dinner until last night. It wasn't for lack of trying but each time we called for a same-day dinner reservation they were booked solid until 8:30, too late for us. Finally I got smart and booked a day ahead for a 6:30 dinner last night for the two of us. We started with the mushroom cobbler. This was served without any bread and, looking at photos others provided, without the biscuit topping. It did have a thin topping of crispy cheese however. Regardless, it was delicious and ultimately the best thing we had. We ordered the steak, medium rare, and the polenta lasagna. The steak was raw in the center so I handed it over to my husband who will eat anything. I took a bite of his lasagna and didn't care for it. Even my husband didn't finish it. We ordered a side of braised vegetables which were horribly overcooked into a soggy mush and drenched in vinegar. UGH! For dessert we ordered the fresh peach and blueberry tart. What we got was a soup that tasted like the juice from canned peaches together with some peaches and blueberries which certainly didn't look or taste like fresh...more like canned or frozen. There was some kind of doughy disc in the bottom of the bowl which make no sense to me. Service was very slow and in all we were there for 2 hours. The acoustics are terrible and not helped by some loud music that was also playing. Too noisy for a conversation. The entire time we were there last night there were empty tables so I don't get why it's so hard to get dinner reservations here. Lunch is a different story here. Service is brisk and we are always in and out in time to get back to work. All in all, go for lunch, the food is better and the service is much better. I'd give it 4-5 stars for lunch but zero stars for dinner, thus the average of 2 stars.

Arrived there right as they opened, was greeted warmly and seated right away even though we had no reservations. Would recommend for special occasions or romantic evening out. Great experience!

Went here for my first anniversary. I had the oysters, and brick bird. My husband had the mushroom cobbler and the pork with polenta. It was a very quaint atmosphere, but boy was that food serious! My favorite things were the oysters, the perfectly cooked hen, and the polenta was the most delicious polenta I have ever had.

Grilled Romaine Caesar Salad and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup to start. Both were great! Had the Pork Shank for dinner- it literally fell off the bone and the polenta underneath was perfectly prepared. Great restaurant overall!!

Good food. Great selection of wines. Outstanding service! Worth trying, but don't expect to be "Wowed" by the menu or feel the need to tell all your friends about it. Knowing Eureka, it's in an odd location, but that's no big deal. There's a cozy dining area that has a nice look and feel.

I wish I could give ten stars! Brick & Fire Bistro is quite possibly one of the top five best places I have ever eaten. Service was beyond friendly and make sure you get a reservation. Even on what you'd think would be a slow Monday night, this place is packed. There was no question that we were going to start with the Wild Mushroom Cobbler ($10): shiitake, porcini, crimini, and oyster mushrooms in a savory reduced cream, topped with a cheesy cobbler biscuit and baked in the wood-fired oven. My mouth watered just reading the description. For my entrée, I chose the Fire-roasted Brick Bird ($22): a full chicken served with a basmati, sunflower and sesame pilaf and topped with a peppercorn cognac sauce. It doesn't get any better than that! Knowing full well that this wasn't a time to worry about the calories, my husband ordered the smoked Pork Shank & Corona Beans ($21): giant meaty and creamy Italian white beans and fresh arugula with a smoked pork shank braised in and served with local wild hedgehog mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and leeks in a light wine broth. Absolutely perfect. The wine list was huge and rivaled many I've seen at fancy-pants restaurants in the Bay Area. They had an impressive selection of French & Italian, nicely rounded out with some California wines. We tried the 2008 Trione River Road Ranch (Russian River) Syrah ($38) We did manage to save room for dessert and shared the Meyer Lemon and Wild Spruce Tip Sorbet just because it sounded so unusual ($7): lemon juice and candied chopped whole lemons with fresh spring bud tips of blue spruce. I would go out of my way to go back to The Brick & Fire Bistro...and so should you ;)

Had to make decision... Finish eating or out the fork down to start my review. Decided to take on more bite and slowly chew my next bite whilst working on my thoughts haha LOVE this place! Super cute and absolutely Delish! Have my found my go to place when I am on the road and want to feel like I'm still at home. The shrimp stuffed calamari was just beautifully plated with 3 pieces. The outside was perfectly grilled to a crisp without overlooking the calamari. The inside was warm and soft. I could have eaten two servings of this! The kale butternut squash salad is ample! Also displayed on a white rectangular plate, this dish is so full of nutritional goodness that I am absolutely stuffed! Usually I will eat a salad until my jaw is tired, but perhaps only 60% "full". Having inhaled the calamari and salad, I am ready for a happy nappy! Thank you brick and fire!! For this scrumptious lunch while I travel! Be back soon

One of my favorite places in Humboldt. I've never had a bad meal here! You can do pizza & beer or excellent wine and something unique to that weeks menu.

Glad we looked on yelp to find a place to eat! We are not from this area and had no clue where to go but yelp steered us here! The mushroom cobbler was fantastic! I had the tuna sandwich and they made a special dish for my daughter that was a penne pasta in cream sauce with chicken like a pasta Alfredo! Since that's her favorite dish and she is picky I was thankful they accommodated her! Excellent! The only odd thing was the bathroom is through the kitchen but the cooks smile and say "guest coming through" so you don't run into anyone! The place is charming and perfect for the rainy day with the warm brick oven!

We were on our way driving back from Seattle to the SF Bay Area and stopped in Eureka for lunch. We chose to go to the Brick & Fire Bistro based solely on the great Yelp reviews it received. It's located smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood. In fact, I thought I had typed in the wrong address into the GPS when it brought us to a small neighborhood where there were only private homes in the area and no places of business. But we turned the corner and here was this quaint little Bistro in the middle of the block. It had really nice ambiance and stylish decor. Two of us ordered the Kobe Beef Sliders. They were scrumptious! There was a definite premium taste to the ground beef and with the grilled onion and the awesome Dijon mayo along with those home-made buns (oh, those incredible buns!!), those sliders were so delicious. The dressing on the side salad was outstanding, too. My sister had the Caprese BLT and raved about that just as much as we did the sliders. We also ordered a side of the Brick Oven Fries and they were fabulous tasting, too! I highly, highly recommend the Brick & Fire Bistro!!

One of the best lunches I have a had in a while. Mushroom cobbler, roasted oysters, polenta lasagna, steak sandwich all just super. Service was very friendly and helpful, This place is really a gem.

Very good food. It's a little place, very hipster, but they make some very good brick oven pizzas and some great entrees. The staff are great. They have some kind of mushroom appetizer (it's kind of like a pot pie or something) that should not be missed.

Another great meal at the Brick. My one quibble was that i would have liked the "bird" cooked a bit longer buy I'll just ask for that next time. My friend's pork was great.

Sit at the bar, it's the best seat in the house..., in fact I can't believe they don't charge extra for it! You get to watch all the action going on in the kitchen and the woodfired oven. All the food looked amazing and ours tasted delicious. Friendly staff, good service, perfection!

Atmosphere was ok at best. Music was not appropriate. Tables falling apart next to us. Server was wearing a see through fishnet shirt. Our waitress wasn't very knowledgeable. However I got the oven chicken, it was delicious, so moist! Don't get the braised greens! So salty! A great place to bring friends during the day for a glass of wine and good apps. But not for a fancy dinner. Also I recommend the creme brûlée!!

Absolutely outstanding. The hostess was immediately helpful and curteous. They sat us earlier than our reservation time. Every aspect of the meal from appetizer, to the main course, to the wine was an absolute delight. The pricing was reasonable for the quality of the food. Make reservations!! This place was packed from the minute we walked in as well as when we left.

I've been meaning to check out brick and fire for awhile now, tonight became that night. I ordered a lot of food, starting with their oysters and followed by the cobbler and carpaccio. Of these appetizers my favorite was the carpaccio. I also loved the oyster and while I liked the mushroom cobbler I felt it needed some acidity for brightness. It needed that extra lift, maybe lemon juice and fresh thyme? Continuing onto my entrée, I had their famed polenta lasagne! Great flavor and lots of character. Loved the balance in this dish. Dessert was tiramisu, it was good but was dying for a bit of salt to wake it up. I also had their canary melon sorbet which was very light and refreshing. The service was okay, I felt the our server didn't like me because I asked a lot of questions and asked her to throw away a chipped plate with a sharp edge. The service was attentive but I felt it lacked some warmth, that did get better through the evening. Ambiance is great! The decor is quite Italian and everything is clean. The music choice was a bit bizarre for the setting and consisted mainly of MJ, Janet Jackson, and Madonna. Will I be back? Most definitely!

I'm from the Central Valley and came to Eureka for a business trip. We yelped several restaurants and came across this one. The place is located in a middle of a neighborhood and according to one of the waitresses the building use to be a bakery. Had the calamari to start with along with the eggplant sandwich. Both were cooked to perfection and the fries are to die for. Brick oven baked fries, a bit charred and seasoned just right. Who said fries have to be fried? Many other options, highly recommend this place.

My first experience with Brick and Fire was lunch with a friend. Our meals came quickly, were well presented and quite delicious. I had the daily special - a pasta primivera, which came with shrimp, but I had it veggie style. The sauce was light and delicious, the veggies cooked perfectly. My friend had a salad with apricots, goat cheese, steak and other things and he complimented it highly. If I have any complaint, it's that this tiny restaurant had only one restroom which was accessed through the tiny kitchen. Tho this gave me the opportunity to wait by the door and watch quite a few people do their work, including the dishwasher! How they moved around each other, and prepared such wonderful smelling dishes was quite amazing. I'll be back.

Dropped by for lunch and sat at the bar in front of the brick oven, with a full view of the kitchen. Great entertainment to watch the Chef and by far the best Mac 'n Cheese I've ever eaten!!!

One of the best meals I've had. Period. Mushroom cobbler. Yum. The biscuit on top was more cheesy than I expected, but super yummy (and pretty rich). Polenta Lasagna: I really loved it, but the description in the menu says the ingredients are sandwiched between "layers of firm and cheesy polenta." Maybe because we were the last seating, but the polenta was not too firm. Not that I'm complaining. J had pork and offered me some of the polenta that came with that--really good. She said maybe the best she's ever had. We also had the chocolate cheesecake. I'm not normally a fan of adulterated cheesecake, preferring a straight New York cheesecake, but I will depart from my orthodoxy to rave about it. It's not as creamy as some, but the chocolate and balsamic added to the flavors. Service was nice, but not overbearing, and our server's recommendations were spot on.

Excellent food, service, and ambiance. Can't complain about Eureka not having good restaurant choices anymore. We're vegetarians so we had the gazpacho, salads, Italian mac 'n' cheese, and polenta lasagna, plus a bottle of sparkling wine. Waitress was accommodating and generous with extra plates so we could share food. Can't wait to come back and visit my daughter again. Great place--make sure you get reservations--we were there on a Wednesday night at 8:00 and would've waited a long time for the limited seating.

We enjoyed the food here. The appetizers were excellent and had unique presentation. We ordered chopped salad and baked mushrooms. We also ordered pizza and lasagna which were very tasty but a little too salty for the pizza. The ambience was relaxing. Nice day to spend dinner at this place. Highly recommended.

I'm a little late (ok a lot late) in writing this review. LOL We had our daughter's graduation dinner here and the service was impeccable! Food was five star! Reservations are recommended as this is a really small dining room. Our server was knowledgeable and there when we needed her. (no hovering or rushing) We took our time to savor the food and wine. The wine list is a bit over-whelming. (too many choices) Portion sizes are perfect and allowed us room to eat all courses including dessert without feeling like we needed to be rolled out of the restaurant. Yes, prices are higher than most places in the area; they are well worth it. In particular we loved the Brick Oven Chicken and the Salmon with pistachio pesto was TO DIE for! The chocolate ice cream was yummy and our server did an awesome job of pairing wines for each course. (even bought a bottle to bring home) Their Wine Bar (Two-Doors Down) is also a GREAT place to grab a late snack and a glass (or 2) of wine. You can start at the wine bar, and when your table is ready, carry your bottle/glass to the restaurant. Everyone truly enjoyed themselves and we will be back.

Very cozy and enjoyable. The lighting, spacing, decor, and warmth emanating from the fantastic wildfire oven set the stage for a very pleasant dining experience. One thing that is immediately noticeable is that the clientele do not exactly mesh with the sophistication of the restaurant, but perhaps that is just quirky and lovely Eureka! The food was very well prepared. The bread was delicious and the pizza and Kobe beef carpaccio were very enjoyable. Nothing to write home about, but very good. The waitstaff was friendly, knowledgable, and attentive. They definitely rounded out the dining experience. And the bread pudding was the best I've ever had - that was indeed something to write home about! I was also very happy to try the flight of '4 oz' (they actually pour much more than that - a huge plus) offerings from Redwood Curtain Brewery, which is a local brewery not really found elsewhere, which proved to be great beer. Really the only negative was that they served Chimay in a regular pint glass... The beer snob in me did not appreciate that...

Very good food. Husband had mushroom gratin which was excellent. I had asparagus and potato pizza, wonderful flavors and crispy crust. Others loved the polenta lasagne and the brisket of pork.

Dinner last night was, at best, disappointing. Vegetable appetizer had a total of two poor quality radishes, one overdone artichoke heart, and four snap peas. The apricot salad had apricots that were not ripe and very few other ingredients other than lettuce. The sauage pizza cane over done with no visible tomato sauce. Service was also poor. Have been several times over the past few years...won't be back...over priced and under good.

Great, environment, warm & friendly staff. WAY TOO DARK INSIDE!!! Could barely read the menu. I understand ambiance, but this place was ridiculous. I ordered a gluten-free, mushroom pizza with wild, local mushrooms. It was incredible and a really great price for a GF pizza that size. The addition of creme fraiche was perfect and adds a little healthy probiotic to the mix. The bottles of wine were outrageously priced and my boyfriend ended up spending $50 on a bottle! That may not seem like much to some people, but to me that's crazy. The appetizer of salamis, cheese, nuts & crackers was good, but the portion was FAR to small for the price. Overall, the menu has a lot of good options, the pizza seems like the most food for the best price, everyone else's food looked great, but they said they could have eaten twice as much as what was brought on their plate. The wait staff was nice, the food came out fairly quickly and I would HIGHLY recommend a reservation because it can get packed and the place is really small.

I do not go out much as I am also a small business owner and by the time I get off work I am out of energy to socialize and be in public. However when I do, I always pick Brick and Fire. The staff is warm and fun. The environment is relaxing and honestly there are not many places locally that pay attention to ambiance the way this spot does. When my clients ask me suggestions for a good dinner place I do not hesitate to recommend this fabulous little place. Like Primal they have created something special in an area that seems out of the way and unusual. You think you are getting lost when you cruise through residential neighborhoods and pass a convenience store only to open the doors to a sexy, warm, slice of fun of Brick and Fire. Its great whether your on a date, rekindling some romance, or just having fun with your friends. I always get the warm Cesar salad with anchovies. MMMM never have I had a cooked salad and its so delicious I think about it for days before I know I am going to go. The wine is great. I am not a developed palate but the staff always picks something awesome that I then go buy later if I can at another great local spot John's Cigars on Myrtle Ave. Take my word for it. Its fun. Check it out. You will be come a fan. Jennifer McMahon Primal Decor

I too am not sure what the hype was all about, but I wish I could go back for a second opinion. This was our main meal after a five hour travel day and we were pretty tired. The service was ok and the ambiance was cool. $22.00 fresh black truffle & wild porcini risotto - my wife had the dish and said it was ok. The shredded cheese on top made the dish. $21.00 filet mignon of pork - this was a dish that I would again have again. Very flavorful, moist, fairly large portion. $16.00 Classic Italian white crust pizza w smoked salmon - i am really partial to thin crust, brick oven style, white pizzas, and I have to say the crust was outstanding. My daughter dug the pizza.

I am always wash up before I eat. I Went to use restroom and it was occupied. I waited by the door for a couple of minutes and then young tall man with the beard walked out. First thing I noticed was a dead nat next to the drain and the sink was dry. I tried my hands and noticed there were no paper towels in the trashcan. When I came out of the restroom I discovered the young Bearded man was a waiter. First thing I thought was thank God the pregnant lady was my server. Then the tall thin bearded man brought my entrée to my table I almost pooped my pants.

I'm not really sure what all the rave is about.... Went here for lunch, stood at the door for about three minutes before I was greeted. Everyone raves about the mushroom cobbler so I ordered it, it was okay but nothing spectacular. Had a soup that was disgusting their was literally a whole clove of garlic chilling in the soup and the "shrimp" were smaller then a dime and mushy. Would not have minded had I not paid EIGHT dollars for it. My friend had the fig fog pizza and said it was overwhlemingly salty from the over use of kalmata olives. We shared fries which were 4$ (a little pricy) bexuase they were steak style but there was only four of them. Never had our water refilled or checked up ob at all. Won't go back.

Found this place because of all the great reviews and I am so glad we stopped in! I was travelling through Northern California and dinner time coincided with our arrival in Eureka. After reading these reviews, I am thankful that we didn't need to make a reservation and were able to get a table almost immediately. The food was fantastic. I had the stuffed calamari, vegetables (which were seasoned to perfection) and the salmon pizza. I highly recommend a visit if you are after some delicious, reasonably priced food. I think I may have to come all the way back to Eureka just to explore more of this menu! On a side note- the restroom is in the back of the kitchen. Strange to have to walk through, but an amusing experience.

Excellent food. I got the Kobe steak and my friend got the roasted bird. The beef carpaccio was also delicious. Would have given it 5 stars but the service was a little iffy. Would definitely go back and also recommend to anyone looking for a great restaurant in Eureka.

I hate to say it... over-rated. It's not bad and it's probably one of the top New American bites to eat in town, but I wasn't overly impressed. The place is TINY, and to get to the bathroom would be considered a health code violation in different counties/cities, which was very surprising. Back to the tiny part - scarcity creates a perceived increased value. With barely a dozen tables, it can be hard to get one, but that doesn't mean the food is actually that much better than other places. About the food... I had some oysters, a salad, and the baked mushroom cobbler. The cobbler which everyone raves about, was good, but not the best mushroom dish I've had. In fact, the sauce seemed like a simple white sauce with mushroom pieces versus having been made from a mushroom broth. The salad and oysters were in the same category - good, but nothing to rave over. The bread was not worth the $2.50 charge. And the service... Your basic, untrained college kid. It took waaaayyyyy too long to get our check, even though the waiter walked by us a couple of times, and I couldn't get his attention. For the prices and hype, I expected more.

Small but tasty Italian in Eureka. A good find thanks to yelp! We ordered the grilled romaine caesar salad and a margarita pizza (did, unusually, have pine nuts by default for those with nut allergies). The tiaramisu was a little dry, but otherwise great menu with creative entrees like Italian Mac & Cheese (parmesan and ricotta based), pizzas and several dessert options including rotating chocolate specials. Tip: Make reservations!

We came here for two reasons one because we had seen it on diners drive-ins and dives. And second reason because it got good reviews on yelp. We would rate it average. We had the pork sandwich and a steak sandwich. The oven fries are soft so if you're looking for crispy french fries don't choose the oven fries. It's a small quaint place so it has a nice atmosphere.

Located away from downtown Eureka. Very small, intimate restaurant. Had maybe 11 or 12 tables and a few seats at the bar. Reservations are required since the restaurant is so small. You have a view of the brick oven and the kitchen. Open space, but not stuffy. Appetizer: Whole Monterey Bay Calamari (stuffed with prawns, leeks, and fresh bread crumbs, then lightly grilled. Served with a roasted golden pepper coulis, sprinkled with fried capers) & an assortment of wild mushrooms served on toasted bread Entrée: Snake River American Kobe Beef (the fettina steak is a "flap cut" from the flank, garlic marinated and quickly grilled, complement by a blueberry, ancho chili and red wine sauce. Served with our roasted potatos au gratin, ultra creamy with a hint of goat cheese), Fresh Black Truffle & Wild Porcini Risotto (A creamy camaroli & Arborio risotto with onions, shallots and pinot noir with a sauté of fresh local porcini mushrooms in duck fat, topped with shaved fresh black Burgundy autumn truffles and reggiano stravechio parmesan), and shared the Braised Greens (red chard, spinach, and kale, with sweet red peppers, and roasted garlic). Dessert: Crème Brulee All the food was delicious. Service was excellent. Highly recommend this place to everyone, but must make reservations.

Stuffed Calamari - very fresh...creamy stuffing. Just Wonderful. The Bleu Fig Pizza - the Bleu cheese can be a little salty, but the figs round out the salty to sweet ratio making the overall pizza thoroughly enjoyable. The crust was a good thickness not too thin and not too thick. The topping of fresh greens completes the pizza and makes a garnish very necessary. Palenta Lasagna - Very savory and the marinara sauce simple and delightful. The Palenta a little grainy, soft and dense. The textures are great. Great Ambience and the service is Outstanding. I cannot wait to come again.

Small but warm and inviting bistro located in a residential neighborhood. +consistently excellent wine list, I would venture to say the best outside of the bay area. Ask your server for recommendations if you are unsure, they know their stuff! +gracious and welcoming staff. +excellent food. Make a trip for dinner! The lunch menu is wonderful, with salads and sandwich options. If you're looking for the full experience, dinner is the time to come. The dinner menu consists of standards always available (Brick Bird, Fettina Steak, Mushroom Cobbler, Polenta Lasagna...) and a rotating fish, and protein dish depending on seasonality. The pizzas are delicious as well. Great for a date night, special occasion or a regular old Wednesday night. Support your local businesses! In addition to creating exceptional food, Chef and Owner Jim Hughes treats his employees like family, and loves what he does. Thats more than I can say for a lot of other establishments in town. Brick and Fire is a Humboldt County institution.

We were on our way to see Mike Birbiglia in Arcata and wanted to take my guy out for a nice meal. Many recommended Brick and Fire. It seemed like the nicest place in the area so dinner was a go. Now while the dinner was good ($20-25 per plate for a quality meal. Not sure that is the sole reason I would make a repeat visit), I was really enraptured by the social aspect of this establishment. Upon arrival, I opened the door and was immediately greeted by a waitress while simultaneously being forced to hold the door open for an exiting woman. I had not spent a whole 3 seconds holding the door when I was accosted by a nearby patron, "Would you puhlease shut the door. " I obliged. But that wasn't all. It got better. The waitress was so kind as to sit me in full eyesight and earshot of this male patron. Each time the door was opened, he would shoot the offender a glare that would freeze if it wasn't already chilly outside. He complained to his female company and I was shocked that he even remembered she was still sitting at the table with him since his nose was so high in the air he couldn't see her. A poor employee was delivering food next door (I can only assume since she was constantly going in and out with plates) fell victim to this man. About the fifth time she made her exit with hands full of dishes (and granted the door was difficult to get closed so a couple times it was left ajar), Mr. Holy pulled her aside and reamed her for leaving him in an icy arctic draft. While he did not yell, it was evident to the surrounding dozen patrons that this guy was indeed being an a**hole. Now this may not have been Christian of me, but I continued to not only enjoy, but revel in each door left open. I almost think people were doing it to spite this awful smear on good patronage. It made me smile. Unfortunately, I could not partake in the leaving ajar of the door since the couple left before we did, but as I walked out I crossed paths with the waitress. Before I crossed the door jam, I leaned in and whispered," thanks for leaving the door open." I winked and left with my date. Moral of the story, the food is good, but the people are great.

We had dinner there again last night. We don't go in very often but that was probably our 15th-or-so time since they opened a few years ago. As usual the food generally was very good. My wife had the chopped Caesar salad and Italian macaroni and cheese, both of which were excellent. For the main course I had the braised beef cheeks with firm polenta and that dish was outstanding. I started with the apricot and almond salad. The salad certainly had a creative flare but the dressing was quite bland. We both had the fresh peach shortbread crisp which also was outstanding. In the past we have greatly enjoyed the wild mushroom cobbler (no, it's not a dessert) and the grilled Caesar salad. It is interesting that they have two different salads that both are recognizable as and appropriately named Caesar but it works. The service is friendly. Last night was a little slow but we got there relatively late in the evening and our arrival happened to coincide with that of a relatively large party. I like this place and I will continue to visit occasionally.

All of the food we had good, but 3/4 of it was unacceptably cold. We pointed this out to our waitress as soon as she came to check in, but her only response was "Oh, sorry. Thanks for letting me know!" I was surprised that on $200 bill she didn't feel the need to replace the entrees or even compensate us in some way. I don't pay $20 to $35 to get a lukewarm steak or pizza. I'm very disappointed in the service. What kind of waitress hears a valid complaint about the temperature of the food and completely ignores it? Not cool at all. This will make me think twice about coming back.

Came to this place because we were staying in Eureka and wanted to try some great local cuisine. Pros: 1. Everything we tried was GREAT. Stuffed calamari, roasted caesar salad, the flank steak. Just DELICIOUS. 2. Service was not too shabby. Usually when my family of four (with two young, louder than most kids) come in, we get horrid treatment, but our waitress wasn't half bad. 3. Relatively easy to find. Cons: 1. In a SERIOUSLY shady neighborhood. Like took everything out of my car that I would hate to lose scary-sketchy. The parking was horrid. On the street, and you pray you can find something. 2. Great ready to pay through the nose. We ordered basically two appetizers and an entree and it cost us $50. We're not well off so it was definitely something we considered a luxury dinner. 3. Very small place: so get crammed and long waits. We got very lucky and got a table right away, but most were NOT this lucky.

When it comes to restaurants, I believe that there are three primary factors that should be considered: (1) Quality, quantity, and flavored compared to expectations, (2) Service, restaurant cleanliness, and group size appropriate server interaction, and finally (3) atmosphere, location, and experience. This place was a definitely a treat and I look forward to going back again soon! The ambience is amazing! Service was great! Prices were very reasonable for quality of the experience. If you're looking for a place to celebrate something, this is a great place to go! Make sure to call early and make a reservation. They book up fast! PROS: The Food was amazing... Fantastic... Wonderful I dare say. Brick and Fire Bistro is one the restaurants in Humboldt that embraces the Humboldt Made philosophy of using quality ingredients (organic, free range, grass fed, and local ingredients when possible). Some of my meal highlights were: The mushroom cobbler was legendary! In one's life, there are those foods that set your benchmark for truly amazing. This was one of those! I got the beef brisket which was fantastic! I loved every bite! I got a bottle of the house barbera and it was fantastic! I dream of having that wine again.

What a pleasant surprise this place was. After driving nearly ten hours, and checking into (and thankfully) out of a dodge hotel, we were recommended this place by the front desk at the Best Western (where we landed up staying). Well where do I begin.. The grilled Ceasar salad was the best I've ever had, bar none. Highly recommend the mushroom cobbler and my man absolutely loved the broccoli and white pumpkin roasted vegetable side. For the main we had the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection and deliciously tasty. Besides for the warm and friendly service, the restaurant was cosy, welcoming and the perfect addition to our road trip. Did I mention we were dropped off by the hotel in a limo? Right. Review not about the hotel. But that was a super cool trajectory to the evening to not include. IE: if you in Eureka, stay at the Best Western!

One of the best restaurants in Humboldt County!! You walk in to a small, intimate yet welcoming room and feel completely at home! Brick and Fire has such a beautiful yet comfy ambiance! The service is nothing short of 5 stars, also! The staff is extremely professional and welcoming! Make sure to get the stuffed calamari appetizer! You'll be sorry if you don't! **Great wine list! ;) Caution-you need a reservation! They get packed very quickly! However, there's a sister restaurant two doors down that also has a great wine list and menu that doesn't fill up as quickly! It presents a similar ambiance- just a bit less formal. :)

Passing by Eureka on the way up to the Redwood State Park on a late Thursday afternoon. We could not find many good food choices in the area so were excited to see this place popping up on Yelp. I absolutely LOVED how interesting and adventurous their menu was. They had frog legs, crab, polenta lasagna, duck, the list goes on. Everything looked delicious on the menu but I was a little disappointed in the slight lack of flavors. A couple other minuses were the fact that you have to walk THROUGH their kitchen to get to the restroom (odd set up) and the myriad of homeless people constantly loitering about out front (a bit of a shady 'hood). With all that said, it's still one of the better restaurants in the area and the staff was very attentive and friendly.

OK food way overpriced for what you get. Staff is kind of rude and snooty. Will not return. All the bums panhandling outside do not help.

Had dinner here with family and friends. This particular evening the food was not up to par, nor was the service. Waitress seated us and didn't return for half N hour. No bread, no water and no menus for half an hour! Had the absolutely aweful stuffed calamari (take this horrible dish off the menu!) who ever thinks this dish is tastey needs their taste buds examined. That said, there are tasty selections that are worth every penny. The daily veggie is usually delectable and worth every delicious daydream. On this particular outing i had the special, which was a large dry pork chop ...not good. The cauliflower dish was cold cold cold! Everyone at my table returned their cold veggie dish. I actually saw our order sitting for quite some time. Perhaps I'll try the pizza next time.

Stopped for a night in Eureka, saw this restaurant on Yelp with a plethora of stellar reviews. Wow! All I can say is find this place-and if tourist season is in full swing-call for reservations! Great food, wonderful wine, good service. Felt like I had happened on a San Francisco treasure with Eureka charm.

Soooooo the food was excellent and original, polenta lasagna and my mom got the baked pasta goodness. We looked up the 5 top resturaunts in eureka and this was on the list. Great ambiance really pleased with the quality of the food, wish the serving size was bigger for the price tho. Tiramisu and apple tart for dessert. ..delicious! Can't wait to come back again

New favorite place to go in town. Very hip. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Menu changes daily. Decent prices. Decent portion sizes. We loved everything that hit the table. Appetizers we ordered - Mushroom cobbler, Kobe beef carpaccio, squid stuffed with shrimp all Yum!! Kale and butternut squash salad yum! Entrees were great too! Braised short ribs served w/potatoes and carrots, wild mushroom creamy pasta dish, and my favorite the cheesy polenta veggie lasagna!! Some of the best creme brûlée and tiramisu I've had in a while. We were not disappointed with anything we ordered. Great service and ambience. Great date place with a wine bar right next door to start you off! I highly recommend and will be returning soon!

I've visited 20-25 places highlighted on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Brick and Fire is the least deserving of any attention. I really wanted to like this place but after 2 different visits I am unimpressed. 2 poor attitude servers, both visits included "reserved tables" sit empty for my entire dinner. Both times multiple pizzas had cardboard crust obvious sign of dough being frozen and not freshly made. Crust burnt too far to be edible. I understand it's a fire oven but I've had plenty of pizza in fire ovens and never so dried out and stuff as it's been at Brick and Fire.

Hello! I'm hoping anyone who knows what a good quality, well cooked, delicious food experience feels like will read this and take my advice and just don't even bother going here. We were 30 minutes early for our dinner reservations so we were encouraged to go 'two doors down' to the wine bar that also belongs to the owner of the Brick & Fire Bistro. Our problems started there. While the waitress was super tentative and nice, the wine was a different experience. The only single glasses of wine to choose from were from a list that was supposed to be of their featured wine selection. Anything else was by the bottle. I chose a white wine which was just OK (I'm being nice here). My boyfriend had to go through 3 or 4 different red wines because each glass the lady brought over was way too sour. There must be something wrong with the way they cellar their wine bottles or worse.. maybe they add/mix to the bottles they open after they sit there for a while? Either way, the price range per glass ($11-$15) just did not match to the quality of the wine. When we were called over to the restaurant for a table which was supposed to be ready, we were allowed to bring our wine glasses along with. Needless to say neither of us could finish our glasses because the taste was awful. When we walked over to the restaurant, it was clear that our table was not ready yet because we had to wait another 10 minutes to sit down. They were understaffed too so they must of called our waitress from the wine bar down the block to come over and bust tables because there she was! Cleaning off the table that was supposedly ready for us. When we finally have a seat it took the new waitress 10 minutes to even come over and offer us water, then another 10 minutes to come back and take our order! We waited way too long for our food and even noticed the table next to us got their orders before us even though they sat down and ordered after our arrival. Most of the food we ordered was just awful. The pasta dish I ordered reminded me of a pack of those instant stove-top lipton noodles with some chanterelle mushrooms and half-way cooked cherry tomatoes thrown in. The polenta lasagna was just ridiculous for $17. The 'polenta' cake was dry and burnt on one side to the point where it was dark brown/black and it was slathered in what tasted like cheap tomato sauce with a few vegetables thrown in. Portion too small for the price. We stopped here because we thought it would be a good stopping point on our road trip to have a nice dinner and what was supposed to be a nice restaurant based on reviews but our 2 hour ordeal at Brick and Fire left us bitter that night and not sure if we would ever consider stopping in Eureka again. The owner was also present at the restaurant and the wine bar and it seemed as if he had a little too much to drink. He might have even noticed that our dishes went back to the kitchen hardly touched but he didn't come over at all to touch base with us. The waitress asked if we wanted to-go boxes but I felt the need to lie to her out of pity and say that there was so refrigerator at our hotel to keep it in. ): I should add that the family sitting at the table next to us also might have been just as disappointed as we were judging by the sad looks on their faces. I think one of the sisters offered to switch dishes with the other because she looked like she was about to cry. PS. I forgot to mention that their tiny little bread basket was not free. They added it to our bill! For something that they just place down on the table without even asking you if you'd want any, they should not be charging you. Not that we needed butter for it but that wasn't included. They did have the most stale (or cheap) olive oil at the table so we regrettably used that. Bread was actually OK, but maybe because I was starving at that point)

The AAA guide recommended this place and then a check of Yelp reviews provided affirmation. We ate dinner there on September 11 - and I recommend it, despite a significant negative. Firstly, our server was terrific; she was pleasant and attentive. I ordered the polenta lasagna ($17), which was *delicious*. My husband ordered the cedar plank salmon ($21) and therein lies the negative aspect of our meal. The salmon was totally *raw*, so he sent it back and they rectified that problem - but it tasted incredibly bland, to the extent whereby he never would have known it was salmon. This restaurant is small and very popular, so reservations are a "must" (even on weekdays, which was the case for us).

I love the aroma as you walk into this place. It's one of my favorites. Great food and wine. Great ambiance. Very small place - so that's limiting, and a little pricey. But, if you want to splurge a little - enjoy! Pizzas are unique and delicious. Had a grilled arugula salad that was amazing.

This was wonderful. Please ignore reviews from people complaining about the service or how the food was "meh". We don't have a lot of choices in Humboldt County( unless you count 100 places with mediocre Mexican ), but this was epic by any standard. Every single thing we ordered - mushroom cobbler, antipasta plate, braised greens, and polenta lasagne - was perfect. The truffles and chocolate cheesecake also lovely. Haven't had a meal so competely cream-o-matic in a long time. Go.

When traveling to an area that I'm not familiar with I heavily rely on Yelp to direct me to the best food selections. Most of the time it works (like our visit to Prima Bistro in Langley, WA) but occasionally it'll strike out. I'm not sure if maybe I ordered the wrong thing but in this case, I wasn't terribly enthralled. POLENTA LASAGNA [2 belly rubs]: This was rated fairly highly on Yelp so I thought it was a safe bet. Unfortunately the polenta came out a little burnt on top and there was very minimal eggplant in it. More mushrooms than anything, which isn't a bad thing but I was looking forward to the eggplant. Also, the thing that I just couldn't get past was that the sauce had this overwhelming taste of Bath & Body Works. It really tasted like I was trying to eat the smell of a Bath & Body Works fragrance. Maybe some people like it that way but it definitely wasn't for me and unfortunately I couldn't finish most of my plate. OVERALL: I can't remember much about my husband's pizza although that seemed to be fairly decent. I do remember feeling a little cranky afterwards because we had spent the most here than other places we went to on our honeymoon -- and this includes going to the place in Langley, WA and ordering the marrow, cheese appetizer, 2 entrees and wine there.

We were delighted to visit Brick and Fire for a delicious meal. Our party of three started with the Calamari, Mushroom Cobbler, and the Caprese Salad. Each dish was unique and full of flavor. We could have stopped there but we forged ahead and ordered the Brick Bird, melt-in-your-mouth Pork Chop, and the King Salmon. Each dish was served with equally delicious sides. We topped the evening off with delectable Lemon sorbet and a Peach Cobbler. My companions had a red wine and a dark beer which they enjoyed. Our server was helpful with her suggestions, attentive to our questions and friendly. Yes,it's a pretty small venue but it did add to the cozy European feel. Pricey but worth it. We wil be recommending this place to others. Great experience in eating.

My bf took me here for a late valentines day dinner. We were both expecting to be really wowed & sadly we weren't. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. I had the brick roasted bird & my man had the Kobe flanked steak & we shared with each other. The bird was juicy, the steak tender, but after reading so many raving reviews & considering the price of the dishes we were both expecting a lot more than what we got. My man even said on the drive home that he thought I was a much better cook (& I believe he was being sincere) but then I had to ask who would have done the dishes? The dessert was the best part, again, my bf & I shared, he ordered the cream brule (today it was chai flavored) & I had the apple tart. The tart WAS something to write home about, which is what we were expecting of the whole meal, & my bf said he could have eaten a bucket of the brule it was so good. Considering how expensive this place is it's unlikely that we'll eat here again. Overall experience was pretty disappointing but that's probably my fault for having had such high expectations.

Don't get me started.... Mediocre at best and definitely over priced. We got the Mac and cheese (I would rather have the blue box) and the flatbread pizza with sausage. For all the hype (and the price) we expected a great meal. The flatbread pizza had no flavor and my friend got the same pizza but GF and she said it tasted like dough... The ambience was great! Thus the two star rating

Visited as a tourist on a Friday evening and made a reservation. Small place so must reserve. Split pea soup was super good: rich, brimming with the pea flavor and accented by the wild boar 'ham'. I also had a specialty pizza and left quite satisfied. My wife had two small plates: wild mushroom cobbler that was very good. But, she wanted the other wild mushroom dish but 'sorry, not available'. Their supplier did not deliver the shrooms. Bad form for a place regarded as the best eatery in town. Also had the grilled hearts of romaine salad which was very good and highly recommended. Server was just OK. Tall dude was great but not our server. Great wine selection and some good local craft beers. Definitely worth a visit and will return if we ever find myself in Eureka again.

We don't give out 5 stars that often but this place definitely deserved it. From the service to the food the experience was great. Go early or make reservations as they are very busy. We had the Koby beef and the lasagna and both were great and the recommended wine parings were spot on.

Found this place on Yelp with high rating during a visit to Eureka. I decided to give it a try. I was lucky that they were able to seat us given that they are usually booked for a small restaurant. I recommend you make a reservation and enjoy the Brick fired food they make. I give the place 5 stars. Everything is good.

We ate there last week. Amazing to find this wonderful restaurant! We had the rockfish and the Brick Bird, both were outstanding. And the cheesecake...WOW! I'll make sure to visit Brick & Fire every time I'm in Humboldt County!

I enjoyed the mushroom cobbler more than the polenta lasagne. Those and a glass of wine set me back about $40 - a little pricey. Great wine list.

We had a great time getting dinner there over Labor Day week end. We started with the chanterelle cobbler and since we love mushrooms, this was simply exquisite. Then my girlfriend had the polenta lasagna which made us feel like the food critic in ratatouille when he eats the ratatouille! The tomato sauce was amazing and just about everything in this dish was balanced and wonderful. I had the margarita pizza which was unfortunately not on par with the rest. It was too cheesy to me for a margarita pizza and lacked the classic intense tomato taste with mozzarella. Had this pizza been sold as a cheese pizza, maybe I would have been more convinced. Next we are in Eureka we will be back.

I just got done eating at Carter House..and all i could think of was wishing i was at brick and fire..I realized that out of all the places i have thrown my money to crap..i wish i would just keep supporting what is good.. Kobe beef sliders..the mushroom cobbler..oysters..are excellent in taste..and it fulfils a japanese concept called Umami..which cannot be defined easily..but is worth looking into..

I ate dinner here tonight and if I lived in the area I'd certainly be back. The only reason I even got to eat here was because I was dining alone and willing to eat at the bar. I showed up about 8:00PM and this small bistro was bustling. They take reservations, and I'd recommend you make one if you're not alone and need a table. The servers were very friendly. I have a feeling the menu changes on a regular basis. I had an appetizer of figs and apricots stuffed with goat cheese, nuts, and wrapped in pancetta. I ordered one of their pizzas for my entrée. Everything was perfect and delicious. If I'm ever back in Eureka, this place will surely get my first nod when looking for a place to eat.

What a hidden little gem. My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner here. We both started with a salad, she a charred Romaine and I the spinach and beets with goat cheese. Both salads were delicious. We then split an order of Mac and cheese which proved to be plenty for both of us after the salads. The Mac and cheese is not your normal Mac and cheese. It is wonderful. One of the ingredients, kalamata olives seemed a little odd. But I must say they worked. Add a little spinach and some Roma tomatoes and the dish was delightful. We will visit again on our. Next trip to the area.

Arguably the best restaurant in Eureka and certainly one of the top 5 in Humboldt county. All of the other great reviews for this place are extremely accurate. Tiny little place with maybe 10 or so tables. Do make a reservation. So worth it. Last time we went, we sat at the small 4 seat bar (with local Redwood Curtain brew on tap!!!) directly across from the beautiful brick oven. Just a warning if you sit at the bar. It's quite warm. Luckily the casual atmosphere was fine for my t-shirt and shorts, although I was probably the least dressed up individual in the place. Watching the small but professional kitchen work throughout the meal was a treat and always nice too see who and how your food is made. Highly, highly recommend this place for locals and tourist visiting Humboldt. Sooo tasty. Our check with two delicious entrees and tasty appetizers was less than $80. And worth every penny.

Weird that you have to walk through the kitchen to go to the bathroom....And when I did go behind the counter the guy working the bar area had basketball shorts on and I am almost POSSITIVE her was drinking a beer in a glasss..... Went here for my anniversary and think I was mostly disappointed in the fact that it was so loud and soooo small and very crowded. I guess with such high ratings and high end food I was expecting different things. BUT the service and food were awesome and I would go back.

I must be at the wrong place. Waitress was bothered we were there and the baked zitti was different bit nothing to write home about. Over priced crowded and again the waitress was annoyed we showed up. Wine was excellent.

Yay! I'm a fan! / Woohoo! As good as it gets! This restaurant really deserves 4.5 stars for its food, service, and the small homey environment. The complimentary bread placed at our table was very salty, so one person in our party asked the waitress if the bread was supposed to taste that way. She said it was supposed to be salty (which surprised us), and brought us another basket of bread, which tasted much better -- but nothing special. Two in our party ordered Kobe Steak, which was pre-cut and served in a small but healthy portion. Another person ordered a baked Ziti, which she didn't like much. I ordered a Seared Ahi and Chardonnay (the pricier one), which went well together. The seared ahi came precut, along with three juicy scallops. For dessert, we ordered about 6 truffles to share. They were good, but not noteworthy. I wish we had gone for a bread pudding. I think Brick & Fire Bistro could improve by providing fresher / warm bread and by eliminating a few of the mediocre food options. Other than these few criticisms, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and experience here.

On our second attempt to dine here, we knew to make a reservation, even on a weeknight. We were seated promptly and looked forward to the place that so many had raved about. I had the house red, a delicious barbera. We shared a cheese place, which was delightful. The honey, walnuts, apples, and pears all had a role in enhancing the variety of cheeses (some domestic, some European). We agreed, though, that we should have ordered it after dinner. I got the 'brick bird', a nicely roasted game hen. The rice pilaf on the side was not to my taste. I'm not sure if the rice was overcooked, or if there was something sweet added...something about it turned me off. My boyfriend was excited to try the pizza. After all, isn't that what "Brick and Fire" is all about? The house-made sausage sounded great, but in the end it was just mildly seasoned ground pork to him. The crust was the most disappointing. I felt he was being harsh in comparing it to frozen pizza crust, but it definitely wasn't the best. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and they do seem to care about the food they serve. The ambiance is certainly nice. It's casual, with info on a chalkboard, a few counter seats by the brick oven, and paper table cloths make it a cozy neighborhood bistro. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the hype for me.

What a fun little place!! It is small, cozy, and has great ambiance! It seemed like the kind of unique place you might find in the bay area...it was such a pleasant surprise! We went on a weekday and it was pretty full, so I would probably recommend making reservations, but luckily they were able to accommodate us. We tried some sort of mushroom appetizer that was really delicious. I tried a pizza that had grapes on it...that was a first for me, but I was surprised by how much I liked it! Our server had helpful drink and food suggestions. Overall a really great experience. A great place to go on a date!

Last night was the 3rd time that I have dined at the Brick & Fire, and once again I was not disappointed. I was first taken there for my birthday back in August 2012 and I went a little overboard with my ordering, easy to do, as all the menu items sound amazing. Second time I went back I ordered pretty much the same thing as nothing new on the menu sounded more appealing (Sucker for the Fettina Steak and potatoes!). Last night I went outside the comfort zone and ordered the Rabbit Sugo, lets just say I will be raising rabbits soon! I also had my first Sweat Breads which were served on a Chantrelle Risotto, F&*$ing amazing! Atmosphere is great, food is amazing and our waiter (same one I have had each time, I need to get his name), is funny, yet professional and attentive. I am worried now that I live only a few blocks away! Make your reservations, as you will be needing them!

If I lived in Eureka, I would kill myself. But before I did, I would have a last meal here. We found this place by accident and granted, low expectations are the key to happiness. Nevertheless, the service was perfect and the food was as good as anything you can get in San Francisco. If you are anywhere along the Northern Coast and looking for a great meal, Brick & Fire is worth the drive.

This restaurant is truly a gem in Northern Ca. I had the Braised Beef Cheeks with Gorgonzola Polenta and it was spectacularly good. Also had their Dark Chocolate Truffles w/a nice cab blend for desert. It was a dining experience I will remember fondly for a long time.

This restaurant is a gem. Not only good for Eureka or Humboldt County, but just really good period. They have a HUGE wine menu. They have great suggestions on wine pairings with the entrees. We got the wild mushroom cobbler which I was certain had cocaine in it. It was that good. So good we both closed our eyes to savor each bite. I got the polenta lasagna which was very good as well. I ate everything on my plate. We got a crème brulee dessert special and the peach crisp. Both were amazing. The service was stellar. Very friendly and attentive waitress. Amazing food at reasonable prices. I feel ashamed that we just ate here for the first time after living in the area for six years. Please eat here.

  • Basia K.

I would rate this place 3.5 stars. It's as good as it gets in Eureka: the place is clearly very popular, since all tables were already booked when we got there around 5:30 on Friday and it soon fully filled. We got seated at the bar, which was nice. I ordered the fig appetizer, and the duck breast which was recommended by the waiter over the game hen. The figs were quite yummy, a 4.5 star dish, but the duck was a miss. It was very chewy, overwhelmed by other flavors, and it was the smallest duck breast I've ever seen. The accompanying butternut squash was burned. It could have been much better dish, but the execution was sloppy. On the other hand, my husband's steak was quite nice. The hostess was already tired when we got there, but the waiter was very pleasant. You get to the bathroom through the kitchen, which I thought unusual and possibly a hazard.

  • Cliff J.

Excellent. Probably the best tasting food in the county? It's close with a few others that's for sure. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Actually, prices are great for what you get. The fettina steak is amazing! The pizzas are super tasty and unique. This place has a good atmosphere and decent presentation of plates, but the focus is on flavor. While debatable whether they have the best tasting food in the county, they also come in well under the price of their closest competitors. This place rocks!

5 stars for their appetizers, salads, & wine....3 stars for their pizzas & entrees=4 stars. Their avocado salad was so delicious and fresh, I have gotten it to-go a dozen times and it is always a perfect little dinner. The bistro has superb ambiance and feels like a dive in little italy...We had a fun dinner!

Had dinner here while driving south along the coast. The polenta Lasagna was great, and my girlfriend's pappardelle was also delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. We sat at the bar, which was interesting, because we had a full view of the kitchen and the brick oven, but it did get a little warm -- thought not enough to detract from the food! I would definitely stop in here again.

Love this place. I've been a few times and its always delicious. Very rich food though. Would be nice if they had more vegetable in their dishes but overall really good with good quality ingredients. It's really fun to sit at the tiny, tiny bar and watch the kitchen do their thing.

This tasty nook has redefined cuisine for Eureka. Far from drab or ordinary, the menu offers an exquisite and well defined variety of dishes, for carnivores and vegetarians alike. I'd say five stars for overall food quality, presentation, and variability. Portions were great! Not too much- not too little; the meals are well balanced. Both in quantity AND FLAVOR. The MUSHROOM COBBLER appetizer was very good; especially paired with the daily baked, soft and pleasant home crafted bread. Wow! Lives up to the exclamation. We ALSO enjoyed the BRICK BIRD...amazing.Simple and elegant. The pilaf, great texture. And the STEAK...amazing, again...i usually don't eat meat, but i was asking for a third and fourth bite of this meal off my boyfriends plate...The potato gratin is rich with cheve and creamy, a filler! for dessert, the seasonal CREME BRULEE. yumm As stated, 5 stars for food... But I had to dock brownie points for service. . . For such a gourmet food experience , the service was not up to par. The waitress was enjoyable, but there is no excuse for not attending a table in such a small establishment. Suggestions: make a reservation.

We arrived at the restaurant by Yelp's navigation. The waiter put us on the bar- only seats available in the restaurant on Sunday night. Two of us shared Mushroom Cobbler, berry loaded Caprese salad, Beef cheek with polenta, and Berry tart. Every bite was perfect from the home baked bread to balsamic vinegar they served. We will make a 300miles trip back to eat there! Their wine list was unique and the price and serving was amazing. I think they are pouring 4 glasses out of each bottle, and the glass price is exactly 1/4 of the bottle price. So you can match wine and food as you wish. I had a glass of Montavina Pino Grigio ($5) for Mushroom, and St Inn Pino Noir ($11) for the meal. My husband had a Boont Amber beer and Cab Blend Provocative. They comped us a half glass of Zinfandel port since they did not have enough for a glass. It was the last night of our road trip to Seattle, and their dinner made a great finale. Not only it was the best meal we had for 2 weeks, but also one of the best we had last 10 years. I wish it is closer to our home.

We had reservations for a birthday dinner, and when we arrived, they couldn't even seat us. We ended up standing in the doorway, on top of another table pretty much, for 25 minutes before they tried to seat us almost outside the front door of the restaurant. By 35 minutes after our reservation time, all they had gotten us was water. I will not ever be retuning to this establishment. When I complained to the waitress about the seating, about the lack of menus, or drink orders by more than 30 minutes there, she didn't even apologize. Instead, she gave me a smug smile, and walked away. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Stopped here for lunch. Atmosphere was classy, not crowded at all. Service was polite and prompt. Food was good. Redwood curtain on tap which is nice to see they support local beer. Would eat here again.

Ok - I don't do 5 stars often but seriously ... if you're in Eureka and don't go here you're missing out. It's not always on the menu according to the chief but get the Pork Shank. What? I know - I thought so too but ... we were there in July, and OMG you can't believe how awesome it was. Bravo!

Fantastic food, but it is so small, there is not a lot of privacy between tables. The creative dishes are worth every penny.

I love this place. Food is fresh and delicious. Wine is fantastic (thank you 2 Doors Down!). I took my parents here on their visit from Atlanta and they were genuinely impressed. It's a bit on the pricey side, however, it's worth it. We also had great service. Will be back!

The absolute best place to eat in Eureka, or anywhere for that matter. Appetizers are wonderful and don't forget the special appetizer menu. The oysters are the best I have ever eaten! We have had most everything on the menu and it was all amazing. Such good and fresh food! To top it all off they have the best restaurant staff around!

We wanted to like this place really bad. But the food was really bad. Ordered the calamari appetizer which was okay. Very small squid stuffed with a mushy bread and shrimp stuffing. Literally three bites. Good flavor. That's the only reason I gave them a star. Ordered the steak. It was a flap meat cut which is basically a boneless short rib. Chewy steak lacking any sort of flavor. It was served with potato au gratin. This is what made the entire plate inedible. It was chunks of hard potato drenched in a broken cream sauce with pieces of gritty goat cheese. My wife had baked ziti. Again indelible. It was like eating Mac and cheese with a broken cheesy cream sauce. The sauce was separated and dripping off the oily pasta. Not a hint of tomato flavor like a baked ziti should have. Relatively speaking this was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Place was pretty cool inside and from the reviews on here we thought we were in for a treat. A few things that stuck out. Dude with the beard cooking the pizzas was guzzling wine like a champ. Server had absolutely no energy or knowledge of the food or wine. All and all Eureka was a dump and this restaurant wasn't any better.

I finally got to try dinner!!! If I could give this another 5 stars, I would. My stepsons took us out for Father's Day and this was the most delish meal I have had out in a REALLY LONG TIME. My husband summed it up well "It's nice to go out to dinner and not be disappointed. I had the Kobe Beef entree (rare) and it was a total orgasmic meal! I even told that to the waitress! My husband had the pork, one of my sons had the hen and his girlfriend had the duck. My other son also had the Kobe steak meal. I was able to try very dish and they were all outstanding. We also had the grilled Caesar salad and it was so fabulous!!! I ordered the bread pudding for dessert and it was very yummy! I would recommend this wonderful bistro to anyone who was looking to have an culinary orgasmic experience!!!

Ah-mazing! Even the simple ceasar salad was absolutely delicious, best I've ever had & the pizza is perfect. The ambiance is beautiful & feels inviting, yet expensive. It's affordably priced for sure. My boyfriend and I spent about $30 for an incredible night out :) Will definitely be going there again.

Fantastic food, fun menu, great staff. That's all you need to know, plus you can go two doors down and have a drink while you wait for your table. The only thing was that the bathroom was through the kitchen which is always awkward.

Quarter to 8 on a Saturday night, walked in and got service within 20 minutes. It's warm inside due to the brick pizza oven but, I always forget the California gets breezy and cool quickly after sunset. I had a fabulous waiter...blue hair, amazing mustache, and a sheriff's badge on his suspenders. Very attentive and accommodating, even wrote down the general recipe for the wild mushroom cobbler. Extensive wine list, and had I not been driving would have gladly indulged but had a pot of tea instead. So, I was torn between 2 appetizers and just ordered them both. The marrow bone with crostini and some sort of cheese was excellent...nice and buttery, easily spread on the crostini. The other appetizer was the wild mushroom cobbler and I have to say that if you don't order anything else on the menu, you HAVE to order the mushroom cobbler!!! The only thing I can compare it to is the mushroom soup they used to have at J. Alexander's, so if you loved that soup you'll love this dish. I seriously thought about ordering another just to have for breakfast in the morning. For my main, I had the beef cheek with jalapeno and tomato polenta. I've never had cheek before but, I think it might be my new best friend! OMG...mouthwatering and definitely succulent. Polenta wasn't spicy, which for me was a good thing, I was a little worried about the jalapeno but there wasn't any heat and the pieces were easy to fork out. Then, I couldn't not have dessert! So, I got the chocolate marscapone cheesecake, and i nibbled a little on the way home and it is phenomenal! Nice and moist, not overly chocolately. This is a great restaurant in Eureka. I will definitely stop in here again before I leave the Humboldt County area. Also, I didn't have a problem finding a spot to park on the street.

I was not super impressed with Brick and Fire. Food is decent, there are some nice menu options that are not offered much here in Humboldt but the service was horrible. We waited at the wine bar next door for 40 min, finished a bottle of wine and were about to leave when they called us over. The ambience and decor are nice but I just can't get past the bad service. Our waiter was uptight and acted like a douche the entire time, not filling our water or even checking in on us. We probably would have been happier staying at the wine bar and ordering finger food.

Again Brick and Fire Proves its Top notch by any standard. Braised greens turned normal chard into a flavor explosion. The game hen was one of the most tender birds I've ever eaten and that includes fresh Quail which i've hunted and cooked the same day. Can't overstate that this is indeed the best restaurant in Humboldt!!

This little restaurant is truly a rare jewel! I love the atmosphere, the great service, their wine selection, and of course their amazing food! The bread alone is worth going there for. We usually get a bottle of their house barbera (yum) then get the mushroom cobbler, the grilled caesar salad, and then my husband and I get our own entrees. My husband always gets the flank steak and I choose something different every time and havent been disappointed. The desserts are yummy I always get creme brulee and my husband gets the marscapone chocolate cheesecake. We never leave unhappy and dream of the next time we get to go! and just fyi be sure to make a reservation and its not a kid friendly restaurant. We leave our toddler at home. If you go eat there I hope you enjoy it!

Probably the most consistently tastiest food on the north coast! I have probably eaten here around 10 or so times and have yet to have a dish I didn't love. The ambiance is nice and intimate, especially given its size (small). Great knowledgable wait staff, and a kitchen crew with much higher standards than I have been previously used to. They take a lot of care in each and every dish.

Great ambiance and the service could not have been better. Their freshly baked breads are varied and fantastic. We've been there for lunch and dinner. I'd suggest reservations for dinner. My only request: there are local wines that would be an asset to the wine list. Try the Zinfandel Port -- sooooo good.

I went to Brick & Fire last night for dinner. The server, Larry, was very nice and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. I was set on getting a pizza when Larry offered to go over the menu with me. After listening to him, I ordered the romaine salad and mushroom appetizer. The salad was probably one of the best I have had, and the mushroom appetizer was purely decadent. I savored every bite. Had some white petal tea instead of wine because I was trying to warm my core (still getting used to the Humboldt cold) and Larry offered to bring me another packet of tea for free with my bread pudding dessert! Try the bread pudding- its made with all of their house-made breads. Everything was great. I noticed that they have an extensive wine and non alcoholic beverage list. Many of the wines are from the northern California wineries, like Navarro. I'll be sure to bring my Fiance with me to this place when he visits me next weekend!

The atmosphere and food at Brick & Fire is excellent. They make good use of the small space, but I do wish it were bigger! However, they recently opened a small wine bar two doors down where you can have a drink while you wait for your table (you can also order some food over there as well). Great place to take a small party of 4 or less for a nice night out. Love the brick oven they use :)

Went there for date night last Friday. First time, and it was quaint. Server was attentive and timely. Ordered mushroom cobbler, and it was divine. Ordered seared Ahi, partner ordered Kobe fettina steak. He preferred the Rib eye from Alice's Sushi and Steakhouse from the week before. I thought the Ahi portion was pretty small. It was good though. We ordered two desserts, chocolate cheesecake and the huckleberry creme brûlée. I really enjoyed the cake. The brûlée shouldn't have been tainted with another flavor in my opinion. I would go again.

Love, love, love this place! My favorite for a fancy dinner date night. Awesome friendly staff, and grew wine bar. The food is fresh and delicious, I've never had anything but an awesome time here.

Very pretentious crowd. No gluten free options... .. had to opt for creme brulee. I LOVE creme brulee..but NOT theirs. It was watery and lacked flavor. The waiter appeared to have just got off the set of Party Monster but was very knowledgeable as far as the drink list goes. Don't care to return.

Best little bistro in the entire Humboldt county. Staff are absolutely wonderful, they are so much a big part this place. Now the food - the best oysters anywhere!!! So many fresh, in season items on the menu - and it changes often, so you gotta keep coming back! The octopus tonight is to die for! We have enjoyed everything on the menu, but they always surprise us with new and wonderful, delightful food. Oh, and the wine selection - no place can come close! They offer tastes so you know what you are going to drink. Don't forget their sexy little wine bar two doors down - and yes, it is called 2 doors Down, we love it!

I was on a road trip up north with my sister when we found Brick and Fire Bistro. So you ever go to a restaurant and immediately want almost everything on the menu? That's how we felt when we first took a look at this places. Everything sounded so delicious and complex. Luckily there was 2 of us and we could share everything. It was a tough choice but in the end we ordered the Mushroom Gnocchi and Fig Pizza. The food was fantastic! Both dishes were even better than the descriptions made them out to be. We already knew that if we ever found ourselves in the Eureka area again, we would be hitting this place up. And because the entrees were so good, we just had to order something off the dessert menu. Again everything on that menu sounded equally tantalizing but we went with the Bread Pudding. Not the best dessert, but still good. The food here was amazing and the prices seemed very reasonable. Our waitress was lovely, the atmosphere charming and the food utterly scrumptious. Be aware that reservations are a must, because if it wasn't for a cancelled reservation we would not have gotten a table so last minute on a Saturday night. If you are in the Eureka area, try this place out.

Walked in the early evening without a reservation on a Monday, sat down, enjoyed the food. Service was just right. Others were looking for wine expertise and the advice came from the heart. The ambience was just right. Loved the music and energy. I'll be back. What treat. I would say a reservation would prove to be strategic. These foodies are having fun.

This place is very classy and warm. The decorations are really nice and the big brick oven warms up the whole place, especially if you sit at the bar. It reminds me of a place you might find in San Francisco menu and food quality wise, but way less pretentious. Whoever wrote the wine descriptions really knew what they were doing - I wanted to try every wine! I got the Sangiovese and the Pinot noir and both were great. The bread and olive oil is really good. I got the mushroom cobbler for an appetizer and my boyfriend got the Kobe beef carpaccio. The mushroom cobbler was much more filling and satisfying and I loved the hearty mushroom filling. After the heavy appetizer I got the butternut squash and kale salad for dinner. I loved the pomegranate seeds and the balsamic dressing. My boyfriend got the Italian sausage pizza, and we shared the bread pudding for dessert. The whipped cream was really delicious and he said it was the best bread pudding he had ever had. Definitely the place to go for a nice evening out in Eureka.

We came on a Friday night before the dinner rush and got in without a reservation. We loved the stuffed calamari appetizer and both of our entrees, the peach pizza and salmon, were excellent. Service was great and she even let me sample the beer I was interested in before hand. All in all, this place will not let you down, but I am sure the prices are a bit higher compared to other alternatives in Eureka. Happy we went!

  • Bernie A.

The place is very small about 11 undersized tables and a small bar. The servings are equally small but excellent none the less. You can always eat more bread or go to the Black Bear if you want to leave stuffed. The is us predictably busy, if you don't make a reservation you will likely have to wait or find someplace else to eat. That being said the food is very good... worth the hassle of making the reservation. Very few places are this good in Humboldt County.

Brick and Fire has an imaginative menu and excellent service. Do make reservations if you can as we saw many people who didn't make reservations walk away when they heard the wait time. We couldn't decide so we ordered a lot and took some home (I had quite a delicious breakfast today!) Everything was wonderful, but dishes that stood out were the mushroom cobbler (as creamy, homey, and delicious as it sounds) and calamari stuffed with shrimp, breadcrumbs, and more. Oh, I almost forgot the pate! It was so creamy and flavorful and served with prunes (or dried plums if you prefer they be called that!) and spicy hot pickles. We also tried the chicken with a rice pilaf that got a nice crunch from pumpkin seeds and was served with a creamy brandy sauce. All the dishes were so good that we were surprised by the brick oven pizza with housemade sausage. The sausage was good, but what surprised us was that the crust, which we were expecting to have a bit of a char on it, really did not. Being from the East Coast originally, I am very picky about pizza. I tend to like brick oven pizzas better than other West Coast pizzas, but this wasn't the best I've had. On the menu it says you can order the pizza without the char so I'm wondering if ours just got mixed up with someone else's. Looking back, I almost wish we had asked them to pop it back in the oven for a bit because I think they would have been glad to do so, and maybe I wouldn't have anything negative in this review. I'm giving them 5 stars anyway because the other dishes and good service more than made up for the pizza glitch. They have quite an extensive wine list for being such a small place, and their enthusiasm for wine comes through in their descriptions. Our waiter was excellent. He kept the glasses filled and was quite knowledgeable about the food and the wine as well. He was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. It made me wonder if he was the front of the house manager as well as our waiter, or if they actually train all their servers to be this good. Something I noticed and asked about was the Pandora station they were playing, which was really fun. I loved that when I asked the waiter about it that he knew what it was (funk radio) and gave me details about how they put it together. What a lovely gem in Eureka. I'm so glad we went here.

Love this place. I have only tried the salads( Cesar and bread salad ? I forgot the real name ) but they are so amazing. I will defiantly go back to try more. Love the staff. Super friendly especially the dude with the sweet handlebar mustache! :)

First off...what a creepy town at night. Good thing is, this place wasn't creepy at all. The pictures don't do it justice. The inside is small but totally works as a quaint city style restaurant. We sat in front of the door and it was still a good seat. Service was supper friendly! Neat people working there made it comfortable. And then the food...which all was good. Nothing was amazing but everything was good, and the ambience and service made it worthy of a 5 star experience. The mushroom appetizer was tasty with flavorful oils, the kale and greens sauté in like a soy ginger sauce was very good. The salads were awesome!! The pizza was solid ( were from the Philly area so Cali has a tough time competing with northeast pizza). That considered, we'd recommend the pizza.

I was in town on a business trip and we asked the local contacts where to have dinner. In a room of 5 locals, when 1 suggested Brick & Fire, the entire room exploded with "Oh, yes....go to Brick and Fire". My colleagues and I were so glad that we did. The wild mushroom brushetta -- I am still dreaming about it deliciousness. And in combination with a bottle of Trione Syrah (which the waitress went next store to the wine shop to pull -- the restaurant and the wine shop serve each other -- interesting concept). The owner also came to the table when bringing our entrees and commented on how much he loved the Trione (we certainly agreed) and shared a story of his recent visit to the Vineyard, which is only about 2 1/2 hours away. Oh how I wished I was closer to CA wine country. Dinner was a short rib with a sweet potato hash -- while delicious, the app could just not be outshined -- which is okay with me. I don't know if I will be in the neighborhood again -- but if you are, I don't think that you can go wrong.

I love the food here. The problem I have with this place is their unreliable system for reservations. If you call when they're not open they ask that you leave a message with the time you would like and they will call you back if they cannot accommodate you. On TWO separate occasions, after arranging child care and driving from Blue Lake, my husband and I were told at the door that the number we left on the machine was no good and that they tried to call us. Interesting, as nobody else, over the course of many years, has ever had trouble contacting us using that number. Really lame to be all dressed up with no where to go

My first time in Eureka and I happen to stumble upon this wonderful little restaurant. Our server had the most awesome curled mustache I had ever seen, he was very attentive to our needs. I forget the name of the breads that were brought out prior to our meal but they were good, I believe one of the breads was a chardonnay? I ordered a Pear & Artisan Bleu Salad which was exceptional. I wasn't sure how the Pomegranate arils would work in the salad but it came out splendid. I had also ordered 1 Wood-oven Roasted Oyster which eventually turned into an additional 3 orders. The smoked chili beurre blanc was so delicious! My friend who isn't fond of Oysters was blown away by the flavor as well. I plan to visit this place a few more times while I'm here on business. I may have to order a dozen of the Wood-oven Roasted Oysters to satisfy my appetite but they are totally worth it!

I used to like this place, but recently had a bad experience. The food was good, but here's the topper. After almost finishing my entree I found a piece of hair on my plate.Things like this ruin the whole experience. I know I should have brought this to their attention, but just wasn't in the mood to complain at the time. Also the server seemed a little ticked off that we weren't drinking alcohol, and it also felt we were being rushed to finish. It seemed odd because all my prior visits were very pleasant.

One word - excellent! We ordered wild mushroom soufflé and stuffed apricots with goat cheese and wrapped with bacon as starters. Both are fantastic. Seared Hawaiian Ahi is soooooo good. The service is great. Super friendly. Ambience is warm and inviting. It has a great vibe. This is a very popular place so reservations are recommended.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
