Great food and great service!! And a lot of thought provoking sayings throughout. Only downfall... Its so far away from where I live or I would for sure be a regular!!!

Good portions and friendly staff. Definitely will be coming back. The food was good however its located in the industrial side of Escondido and looks sketchy from the outside. Fear not they still offer great service.

Not bad, not good--to me, this place is the epitome of "average." Nothing is actually overly expensive, but there's nothing actually cheap here either. The people are nice, but the service is blatantly slow. On the plus side, their blueberry pancakes are made with real blueberries. On the down side, their Philly Cheese is loaded with way too much bland cheese and inevitably overpowers the other parts of the sandwich that are actually good. At least there's more than enough food for each order.

I have been eating here for about a year now, the food is great and the service is outstanding. Since I am a early person it really makes it good cause they open at 5:00 am durning the week. I would highly recommend this place for breakfast.

If you happen to stop in, try out a half order of biscuits and gravy. First time to see chunks of Bacon mixed into it.

Just finished breakfast and I gotta say it was pretty tasty! While the food was good, the service was meh.. I would probably go back here but I just know to expect slow service..

Always Great Service and Food. May need a larger location but it is worth the wait.

Not sure how this place got 4.5 stars. I expected more for a high yelp rating. Came here for brunch with my cousin & sister. They were pretty busy. Serves usually brunch food but nothing to make it stand out. I got the blast sandwich - bacon lettuce avocado Swiss & turkey. It was pretty decent but something you could make yourself. However the fries were soft and not crunchy at all. They do not have much choice for vegetarians - just a grilled cheese sandwich or grilled cheese with tomatoes. The breaded chicken with gravy was pretty good according to my sister's bf. hubby got the philly cheese steak sandwich. But the steak was in cubes and tough to chew on. The should have this in slices - would have been much better. I may have been tempted to rate them a 3.5 star & round it up , but when we were served with the bill, my sister's BF took it up to the cash register to pay and after five minutes another waitress gave us the bill again on our table. Us the inside seem like it could use a little sprucing up. Will try another restaurant if I'm in the area.

Weird place to have a restaurant because your in an industrial district. When you walk in, you cant help notice the decorations...its very much like walking into grandma's house, but we didn't get the service and friendliness you would expect at grandma's house. There were two servers in front of us and they could have acknowledged that we came in, but instead we stood at the front for a bit until someone from the back came out and told us to seat ourselves. She was friendly and should probably give the others some tips on how to give better service. We did have to flag them a couple of times while we were there. Although the service sucked, the you get a lot for the price, plus the key to my heart is how the food taste, so that's why they get 4 stars. Food was great! My eggs cooked perfectly (over easy), bacon was crispy, biscuits flaky, and I was able to take my ice tea to go. Will come back for the food, we gave a good tip because everything taste so good, we should have walked to the back and given the tip to the cook.

I LOVE this place!!! It really is a homey cozy atmosphere! We found this gem on a whim and decided to try something new. We were a little skeptical because its located in an industrial type area but it exceeded expectations. I ordered biscuits and gravy( fav. breakfast!) and my boyfriend had a "Tomlett". We both loved my dish and decided to make this our new breakfast spot! it is so convent for us because how close it is to our home and it opens early so we can me up on the way home from work. We both work night and get off at 7am so its nice to get great food that early that isn't so commercialized. Also, be sure to order a hot drink! They have a collection of different mugs that they give you and it is always a nice surprise to see what quirky mug you will get. Very casual place where diner meets Grandma's house! The staff is great and very friendly. The only downside is be sure to not park too far back in the parking lot. There is a tire shop behind the cafe and we got boxed in by a delivery truck for ten minutes one day.. but that's just bad timing.

You cannot ask for more than have the owner wait on your table. Lisa was a friendly professional waitress. Great breakfast, my $3.00 milk was worth every penny. The water glass was even in a tumbler. Doug and I had plenty to eat and the hash browns were perfectly prepared. What a find, apparently its been here since the 70's and it's a stones throw from my Tuscandido home. My highest recommendation for flavor and value!

Friendly service. Old school atmosphere. Food was better than most. Eggs were scrambled nicely. Hash browns were done right but kinda plain. Chicken fried steak was tender but a bit thick. Gravy was better than average. Toast was perfect. Pancakes were perfect. Biscuit was only average. I am a chicken fried steak critic. Harry's in La Jolla is the BEST. This one is only one notch down.

A good breakfast spot. Food was fresh and good quality. Yummy pancakes:-). Really good customer service. Get there early, they get pretty busy & the place isn't so spacious. Nevertheless, it has a "down home/diner" feel. We were pleasantly surprised & will definitely be back...

Do not go here just because of the Yelp Reviews. The food is average, the waits are long, and the staff is generally disinterested in their work. It's like the Hostess, server, and food runner were all annoyed that we wanted to be served. We went here based on the reviews, and were solidly disappointed. It was average, we wanted great.

I can vouch for the eggs florentine and biscuits and gravy, full order. I have visited this establishment twice and have ordered the same thing and it has been consistently amazing. Pros and cons below: Menu: Pretty good-sized menu. Prices are average. There are two full pages of breakfast items and I believe the same for lunch items. My boyfriend and I shared a full order of biscuits and gravy and the eggs florentine, and he had a cup of coffee. The bill came out to $15.73. I rate restaurants on their food, and the food was awesome. Service was great. Ambiance is nice. Not a place you want to take on a romantic date or anything, but more of a family restaurant.

Located in an industrial area. Small mom & pop diner feel. Parking is limited. Food is ok. We were stuck in traffic this morning and decided to pull off and have breakfast to allow traffic to die down a bit. So we yelped nearby breakfast restaurant and Home Sweet Home Cafe popped up, based on the # of stars we decided to check this place out. Upon arriving we were a little surprised at the location. It's located in an industrial area with a small parking lot on the side of the establishment. It had a trucker feel to it. Small diner with looked like local workers from nearby businesses eating there. The waitstaff was courteous and the food was ok. Not amazing or above average just sorta "ah". Oh, the coffee was not good. Overall, for our 1st time here it was ok but I think if we're in the area we might take our chances with a different breakfast spot.

We went as a group of 6 on July 5th, following a night of wild party and dance. Once seated, the service was great. The gent seating people was hilarious and very attentive. He took our drink orders as we looked over the menu. We all ordered breakfast and we were all very satisfied. The breakfast burrito is actually 2 breakfast burritos (so much food). All our portions were big. The coffee cups are so fun! Salsa is awesome. This is a traditional breakfast/brunch joint. A very good one. It'll be busy on the weekends and for good reason.

I have been there twice really wanting to give it a chance but the biscuits and gravy everyone raves about were gummy and almost undercooked. The chicken fried steak was from frozen and you could tell in the texture, my waitress told me I could have the from scratch which I did but unfortunately it was just not very tasty, rather bland. There are better joints in Escondido and San Marcos to go to that puts this lovely place to shame. Not going back and am not taking recommendations from the folks that gave me this one.

Walked in on a Saturday morning just before 9 am and no wait! We were promptly seated and brought out drinks. We ordered a full order of biscuits ($4.50) and corned beef hash with home fries ($8). The portions are hearty, prices are perfect, and the food comes out super quick. And the food is so delicious--the perfect breakfast to start off a lazy weekend. The service is so sweet and attentive too. The mugs are mismatching and the decoration is a little all over the place but so cute nonetheless. Just wish we had nothing to do all day except good food and drink hot coffee. This restaurant is so homey and lovely and sweet in all the perfect ways; just wish I didn't live 1.5 hours away!

K... Found the best chicken fried steak in North county. Pegah's is now #2 (which isn't bad at all). As stated in previous reviews, I'm from Texas. Not hippy city-boy texas like Austin, but Ive lived in the middle of nowhere Texas where CFS is the shiz. Home sweet home is pretty dang delicious. You can choose between fresh and prebreaded. Please choose the fresh. It takes a little longer, but delicious takes time.

We had a Groupon for Home Sweet Home Cafe that was going to expire in a few days, so I figured that Kathy and I would grab some lunch here before heading out to the Flower Fields this past Saturday. (And just as well, too - the place is only open for breakfast and lunch. I bought the Groupon thinking that I could use it on the way back from seeing my lady up north.) While the location of the place is a bit jarring - it's in an industrial park which can be easily missed - the interior environs are reminescent of a homestyle diner, complete with sweet and surly staff and decor that makes you feel like home. We both ordered the Burger Special - either the 1/3 lb. or 1/4 lb. burger with fries and either soup or salad for about $9.50. The burgers are pretty juicy; they're made with a mixture of beef and pork sausage, but can stand to use some seasoning. While we both got our salads, Kathy got her fries (which were nicely seasoned)... and I didn't. I ended up ordering a side of onion rings, which came out crispy and not too oily. If anything, the food here comes out fresh. 3.5 stars overall, and I'd like to try their breakfast menu for Home Sweet Home Cafe's corned beef hash. Oh, one more thing about the decor - while seeing cartoon characters on the windows was nice and unexpected , Kathy and I were very surprised to see a handmade crucifix above one of the hallway entrances. Outside of our friends' places and churches, this was the first time we saw a crucifix in a restaurant... and as it turns out, they're being sold alongside the rest of the handmade jewelry next to the register.

Found this "hole in the wall" breakfast joint using the Yelp app for pancakes in the area. It is off the beaten path, as its on Enterprise in the industrial part of Escondido. The restaurant is a little on the smaller side, but it had a nice ambiance. We got there at 10:30AM, and it was busy with a 15 minute wait. They have a waiting area outside with lots of chairs. We had a combination of these: *Berto Special: Really liked this plate. Seemed like their take on "chilaquiles", which is a staple Mexican breakfast. They put green sauce with onions over chips with sour cream and feta cheese, and comes with scrambled eggs. Very good *combo, it even had a hint of spiciness. *Club Sandwich: Standard club sandwich, but they put in lots of meat. Very filling. Pancakes: Your run of the mill pancakes...put lots of syrup on these to finish off the meal. Service was okay, as the waitresses were really busy, but they were very nice. We thought the breakfast mugs in the way of comic book and cartoon characters was kind of cool. In the end, breakfast was very affordable, quick and would come back again.

In my effort to express my WW "creativity" and reward myself for running a 5k this hot morning, I took my "humble" wife to this well reviewed locals breakfast/lunch place. My "creative" side selected the highly regarded "skillet." The bacon gravy hiding under the eggs was delicious! My wife maintained her "humility"and totally annihilated her basic eggs and bacon. Needless to say, we came back the next day with our kids (no 5K warmup) and we tried the biscuits and gravy, veggie omelet, Cajun skillet, and turkey melt. All were excellent. We found a wonderful place for a great locals brunch and we still managed to lose weight. Win-win!

If not for Yelp, I would never have know about this Cafe. it's located in a somewhat industrial area and I only happened to find it because it showed up in a "nearby" search as I pulled over, confirming the location of my intended destination. I was hungry and though I was dreading waiting in line for breakfast one a weekend morning, I'm glad I stopped by. It's a very cool, casual diner. This might sound strange but the clientele and the staff, all seemed really friendly and nice. Almost like everyone knew one another and before I left, I had made a few more friends on Yelp. Having said that - guess I don't need to, but will mention - that the service was excellent. The server, or the few others who I encountered, all seemed genuinely nice and pleasant. As for the food - I went for the Chicken Fried Steak. I'll just say this - I wiped my plate clean. I even asked for more biscuits so I could soak up all that gravy goodness after I inhaled everything else. The biscuits were awesome on their own too. On my next visit, and there will be another visit, I have to try the Eggs Benedict. A girl next to me ordered it and if I had known her, I would have asked to try it.

Fantastic down home breakfast spot in an unusual area. Home Sweet Home Cafe is a little breakfast spot that is located near a lot of the auto body shops in an industrial area. If you aren't careful you might whiz right past this place. The place reminds me of a country kitchen that I grew up eating in with my mother and grandmother at the stove. Coffee is served in fun and unique mugs, not boring white ones like a lot of places. +1 for originality and character! The food is fantastic. I went out of my standard breakfast routine and ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. The server told me that I made a fantastic choice as it was her favorite. Several minutes later our food was served piping hot. No heat lamps for this joint - everything is fresh and made to order! The gravy was amazing. I usually need to add pepper to white gravy to get it to my liking, but not here. This was just perfect! Prices are VERY reasonable and they do take card.

Loved this small, old school breakfast place. Tucked away in a rather remote industrial area, Home Sweet Home Cafe opens super early at 5am and closes at 2pm, serving both breakfast and lunch all day. The service was friendly and fast, and it definitely seems like a popular place with the locals. I ordered the home sweet home omelette, that had sausage, bacon, onions, and home fries covered in gravy and cheddar cheese. My god. Tastes great, large portions, and cheap prices! If you're supposed to eat breakfast like a king, then come here to feast like royalty!

My first visit, was craving pancakes. Wow! 2 big fluffy cakes, with bananas and real butter. It was very yummy. Next time going to try one of the huge omelets. Place was packed but staff friendly and took care of all of us hungry hordes. Great find!

Large generous portions. Friendly service and they support our Armed Forces. Nice country decor inside. I tried the chicken fried steak due to a few others raving reviews. Mine was a little on the chewy and tough side. The gravy was kind of bland. I'm willing to give them another chance but will try a different dish. My girlfriend had the sausage and swiss cheese omlette. It's nice they give you a choice of cheese type. Omlette was very delicious. Lots of regulars come here. Located in an industrial area and not a lot of parking. Make sure to check in and you'll get a free drink

Thanks to Groupon for bringing this hidden breakfast spot to my attention. Prices are so reasonable, that I would recommend coming here with or without a deal. It's located close to the new Palomar Hospital location and is nestled among auto/tire centers and across from a business that offers welding supplies. Definitely strange, but definitely worth a try at least once. It reminded me a bit like an IHop or Denny's, but more personal given all the home sweet home-ish decor. You can tell who the n00bs (read: my aunt and I) are upon entry. We were standing a bit awkwardly by the entrance of the door until one of the waitresses told us to seat ourselves wherever we would like. I was amazed by how much seating the cafe could actually handle. There are plenty of tables and counter stools to choose from, making Home Sweet Home a perfect place for families and groups. Menus are already available at the table once you sit down! A convenience that I absolutely loved and appreciated. Why don't more restaurants do this???? I opted for some good ol' eggs and french toast. This meal comes with a side of bacon or sausage, but great news for fellow vegetarians - the waiter offered to substitute the meat with a fresh bowl of fruit. The two scrambled eggs and three triangles of toast (topped with cinammon, powdered sugar, and syrup. YUMMMMM), were enough to make me feel full and happy. The waitress actually forgot to give me my side, but no complaints, I didn't' need it. Food here is decent. I wouldn't say my absolute favorite, but given the lack of breakfast spots in Escondido, I'd definitely come back here when I'm in the area. Side note: The yelp check-in offer is a free beverage with purchase of a meal. The waitress was nice and granted the free beverage yelp offer to both my aunt and me, even though we came in with the groupon offer.

Great little place for breakfast! (Haven't tried lunch yet but will be back!) fast service good prices and the homemade flavor was in everything. I got an avocado provolone and sausage omelette that was to die for. The eggs Benedict was delicious and service was friendly (: The biscuits and gravy was okay but not the best. Still will come back for those perfectttttt omelettes!

Home Sweet Home is a wonderful place for breakfast, you must try the country skillet. The people are always friendly and attentive! It's a small place for how busy it gets, with not alot of parking but the food is always good. Just a great old fashion breakfast cafe.

We love this place. A definition of all American breakfast. We always order chicken fried steak and trust me you will not be disappointed. I also tried their chili and it was amazing! Go and try this place!

We aimed for breakfast/lunch here due to the previous good reviews. Mistake. The African-American bus boy *blocked* us from entering the section we were directed to by one of the waitresses because he didn't wish to clean up any more tables in the section. As I told the waitress when I complained, "I wasn't asking him to walk to walk the Green Mile." I ordered Eggs Benedict and was told it was incredible. Hollandaise sauce was from a packet or jar. Country potatoes had about 5 dices of onions and bell pepper. Worst I ever had. My partner had the cheeseburger -- it was good. But since we were one of the last people to be seated, the waitress took away my plate without asking if I were done. WORST breakfast place in Escondido. I am back to the Golden Egg Omlette House.

My first visit here today for breakfast and everything was great. Cajon skillet was excellent and their special for the day was cheese blintzes. Delicious! I haven't had those since I was a kid back in Chicago. Service was great, friendly (with a side of good ole Midwest charm) and fast. They have a good system where all the servers attend to you if needed. It is in an odd industrial location but no big deal. And the coffee was very good! I like that every coffee mug looks different, adds to that home style feeling. We plan to be back.

This place holds a soft spot in my heart because I had a lot of morning breakfasts here with my fella. That being said, this is a solid hidden gem diner. Yes, the parking lot is awkward, although I 'm usually there before the rush so it's not big deal, and yes the decor is older and hokey, but I would much rather pay reasonable prices for great food than have fancy flooring and a mediocre or expensive plate of huevos rancheros. I've gone savory and sweet on the breakfast menu, and neither disappoint. Expect friendly staff, bottomless coffee and colorful patrons, because this place is for everyone.

I have now been three times. I ordered bertos special the first two because it was so delicious. This last time I chose to go healthier and got oatmeal with the works which was delicious and more then I could of ever eaten on my own. The prices are great and the diner food is impressive. The negatives is its usually slow service, and the parking situation but they cant help the second one.

Best. Pancakes. Ever. No need for much fanfare as far as reviews are concerned. Hands down best breakfast place in the middle of an industrial park in Escondido. Its not pretentious and it doesn't need to be. Be sure to try them if you haven't... I know I'll be back for more!

This cafe is located inside the industrial park in Escondido off auto park way. At first glance, I was ready to run! The cleanliness is something I was not very into and the restaurant looked like it needed a deep cleaning and then some! Just because it is playing to a nostalgia aesthetic does not mean it has to be genuinely run down. To spite my instincts, I accompanied my sister and stayed for the meal. The food was good. Nothing to write home about but it came as ordered and seasoned well. My sister loved her meal so that's where the 3 stars come from. The other point being the very nice waitresses who seem to know everyone who walked in the door. I would not return because it just isn't for me - can't get over the cleanliness of the place- but I'm pretty sure my sister will be a repeat customer because her corned beef hash was apparently "amazing"!

three words: deep fried bacon. get it. Melts in your mouth. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and the cinnamon roll was heavenly. My grandfather loves the patty sausage and says it's "to die for". Oh and their coffee is always hot! Great service is the cherry on top of a great breakfast spot.

This place has been a breakfast date place for me and my man. We like the Man Section of the dining room area and the ambiance of the place. We come here and the food is okay but you know what makes everything better? THEIR GRAVY!!! Oh my goodness that gravy! There's something about this place that lives up to the name. Like the Snoopy coffee mugs, the "Lady and the Tramp" drawing on the wall or the sign that says, "The Deadline for All Complaints was Yesterday". The servers. They greet you like they are your Mommah from another planet. Something about their demeanor gets me. We like the french toast too. I have yet to try the pancakes and the burger/ lunch items. Anyway, I love this place.

This place is as legit as you can get. It's a very unique place to come and eat. The staff is INCREDIBLY friendly, quick and great at what they do. I love the decor, it makes me feel like I'm at "grandma's" mishmash house. And their coffee cups...are awesome! You never leave without a full belly and a smile on your face. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this gem!

Love this place! Great ham steak and eggs! I believe a family runs this little restaurant and they are the nicest people ever. Service was great and food was phenomenal. Definitely a place worth coming back to again. If your looking for a homey all american classic breakfast this place is definitely for you. But beware, the wait for a table can be long (that's how great this place is). Unless you are by yourself or with one friend you can go up and eat at the counter with a fairly short wait. I'll definitely be coming back sometime soon I heard their biscuits and gravy is amazing!!

So glad we found this place! ! Affordable and satisfying! It's located in an odd place with little parking, but we came around noon on a Sat and we're able to find a spot. You walk into the diner and its decorated like how it must have looked back when it opened in the 70s with a dozen tables and a small bar area. The coffee is served in mugs that you would buy as a souvenir or at a thrift shop, all of different styles and designs. I got the bacon spinach and cheese omelet with hash browns. My boyfriend got the ham steak with hash browns. First off, the hash browns were DElicious!! They are thin and light tasting, not oily, and upon digging in, you can taste each stand of potatoe rather than the mushiness that some places serve cause they flatten the hash browns too much on the grill. I love that! !!! The omelet was layered with your type of cheese (I chose pepperjack) which wasn't that heavy and didn't make the omelet too cheesy. Overall the omelet wad amazing! Light, fresh, bacon and spinach in every bite. My boyfriend said his ham steak was one of the best he ever had. I took a bite and was met with a nice sweet, not too salty, juicy and thick slice. Wow. sooooo good! ! Their portions are just right and doesn't over do it. Pretty much everything in the menu is under 10$ which is hard to find these days at a decent place, the two of us came out to just under 20$. Service was great, friendly, so I'm pretty sure we'll be back again.

Not a huge fan of this local spot. My boyfriend and I have been here twice for breakfast. Once while it was super busy and once while is wasn't too busy. Both times, we waited a long time to order (upon being sat) our food which was rather annoying. Getting refills on our coffee was also not a fun experience. The servers were nice enough when they did check on us. The food was okay. Better than some restaurants, but not the top, locally. Their Hot Cakes were really tasty though. I would highly recommend those if you do decide to visit this location for breakfast.

The food here is really good - this is definitely one of our new favorite spots! The location seems a little odd (cute breakfast cafe in the middle of an industrial area), but they've done a great job at making it really welcoming, quaint, and, well, very home-y! The coffee was nice and strong, and the gravy definitely lives up to its hype. My husband ordered an omelette and I ordered chocolate chip pancakes with bacon. I asked for the bacon on the softer side (not a fan of burnt, crispy bacon)- but when I received it, it was barely cooked, looked like raw bacon that was in the microwave for a few seconds. I couldn't even eat it. We'd already waited quite some time for our breakfast so I didn't want to send it back, I just left it. I was pretty surprised they would serve that, though. Back to the good- my pancakes and his omelette were both perfect and delicious...and that GRAVY. It's perfect. I would eat that gravy on anything! The guy next to us (we sat at the bar) had ordered a breakfast skillet that looked just incredible - potatoes and cheese and bacon with veggies, topped with eggs over medium. That's definitely what I'm ordering next time. I think they need a better system for people walking in. There's no area to wait, so we had to awkwardly stand around until we could sit, and we didn't notice people behind us who thought we were in line to put our names in. It was very busy, but our food took a really long time coming out - was it worth the wait? Absolutely. But maybe something could be done to expedite the wait. I think the good food outweighs the small inconveniences I mentioned, and we'll absolutely be back.

Traditional American comfort food can't get any better than this. Everything from the service to the food is absolutely stellar. The omelette I had here is arguably the best I've ever had. Not only is it delicious and flavorful, but the portions are gut busting! Prepare yourself for leftovers. My recommendation is any dish with their signature gravy, which is so good, that I would eat it straight out of a dirty old boot.. and pay $5 for it.

This place is absolutely bomb!!! Staying in Escondido for a few days before heading down to San Diego for a good long vacation, my girlfriend and I found home sweet home cafe through yelp. I have found some of the best eateries through yelp and this one did not disappoint! I ordered the biscuits and gravy, since they were raved about in other yelpers reviews. They were nothing short of fantastic. The home fries and salsa were terrific as well. My lovely girlfriend ordered the hotcake special, and was greated with truly home-style puffy set of pancakes. All in all if you have a chance to eat here, and choose an alternative, you are a fool... And you need to fix your life.

We love this place. The food is good but the service and feel of this place is great. I only recommend breakfast though. Lunch wasn't that good.

I am absolutely KNOCKED OVER ON HOW INCREDIBLE THIS PLACE IS!!!! The owner, Lisa, is an exceptional person. Friendly, beautiful, and one of the best conversationalists I have experienced in years. She has decorated this place herself. Her menu, her staff, and the ambiance of this place...all hers. The FOOD IS EXTRAORDINARY!!!! I needed to be wheeled out to my car. Try going during the week or first thing-7am-on the weekends. WORTH THE TRIP FROM EVERY PART OF THE COUNTY!!!!

Food here is great, service is always Fast and friendly. Only bad thing is the parking sometimes it takes 10 mins just to find parking especially on the weekend. I usually order the mess, it's delicious give it a try!

We came here for brunch, they were pretty busy. After waiting a few mins for A table, we were ushered to our seats. Drink orders were taken and they came out promptly. We then waited another 15 mins for the waitress to finally take our order. She was friendly enough and we ordered quickly. The tickets mysteriously got split so one person got the food while the others of us waited 8 mins for ours. The food is good. My parfait was way larger than anticipated and the fruit was truly fresh. We enjoyed it and settled the bill quickly. All in all it was a very average experience. Nothing overly exciting about this place, but it got the job done and they DO NOT HAVE WAFFLES!

Every one gets a different coffee mug. The service is usually fast and friendly. It gets busy on weekends. Food portions are huge. Gravy will make you fat. In other words breakfast as It should be. No frills very 'MERICAN atmosphere and it feels like what Escondido probably was like before me and my people invaded half the town. 4 stars just because it doesn't emotionally move me with awesomeness. Put gravy on dat

Not sure if Home Sweet Home Café is Escondido's worst kept secret or not but obviously someone told someone about this place because it seemed like there were a whole lot of locals/regulars in the joint for it being "hidden" right in the middle of an industrial area. Short and sweet, we found this place on Yelp and decided to come here because it was close to the hotel we were staying at for my daughter's soccer tournament. Best choice we made because we will definitely come back here next time we play in the area, and shoot, maybe even take a quick detour on the way down to Sea World or the air show in October. What I liked the most about this café was the friendliness of the staff and the overall teamwork that is evident while they take care of you. From the busboy to the servers to the hosts. I also like how homey it feels in there and the fact that when you get a cup of coffee, they're all different, just like at home. On this visit, my wife and I split a Cajun skillet which was more than enough for us to split. I'd probably get it again. My boy wanted steak and eggs. In my opinion, the steak was a little overdone since we had ordered it medium, but he liked it so that's all that matters. My girl ordered French toast and a side of fruit, and the fruit was fresh and a nice portion. Fresh is always better. Overall, outstanding experience for breakfast. I think I'd like to come back and try their lunch.

Absolutely delish! We were on the road and got lucky when we yelped breakfast. Both the Baja omelet and the spinach/feta omelet were fantastic. If we lived around here we would definitely be back!

Good food , clean yet, server uniforms?? Not good . Ice in storage bin , open lid not cool . But, overall not bad. I will return and the mild farmers brothers coffee is great

This place opens at 5AM!! We were on our way to San Diego Safari Park and opened up my Yelp app to find the nearest rated Breakfast joint and my decision did not disappoint. Definitely in the middle of an industrial park, one can find awesome smiles and up front customer service from the front house of the staff as if they were in Energy pills at 6AM! I had the breakfast burritos and split one with my sister who couldn't even finish it. They are fairly large sized and come with cheese eggs potatoes and your choice of sausage or bacon. Want quick and efficient service? This is the place to be!

We came on a Sunday morning around 10, we had to wait about 10 min. Took awhile for them to take our order but we got our drinks when we sat down. Food was good. Had chicken fried steak, chicken fried steak sandwich and eggs Benedict. Food came and out fast and was good. The gravy was great and we checked in so we got a free drink. Prices are great too...like nothing over $9.

I would like to be able to review this place, but the parking is so bad here, you cannot even find a spot. There are only a few parking spots in the "lot" and you can't park at any of the local businesses or really on the street very much since there are so many driveways and businesses crammed on this street. But, after seeing everything in the area, I doubt I would have eaten there anyway. It is in a very industrial area surrounded by welding companies, auto body shops and a few other businesses that I am surprised they allow a food eatery around. There is a good reason why I don't eat at my welding desk, or cook breakfast 12 feet away from someone painting a car...

I'm so glad we found this place. I had originally planned on eating elsewhere but that place had shut down. I found this gem via Google maps. The food is good (we had the Cajun and Country skillet) and the waitress checked on us often. The place has a old diner feel, which I love. Don't let the location put you off. It's worth it. Oh yeah, check in and get a free drink. :)

The food here was really good. Everything tasted fresh and they have lots of yummy options. The only reason they have 4 out of 5 stars is because of their service. It was really slow and they forgot about us multiple times. They would ask us if we wanted more coffee or ketchup etc. and they would leave and never come back. We would have to go ask this younger girl that seemed like she was just helping at the cash register but she was very nice. Our main waitress would go get lost in conversation with who I assume are the "regulars" that come in. I tried it and it was good but I don't know if I would want to come back. I also got a vibe of a regulars only place. Like they expected us to know what we wanted right away. But that could be just me. I say go ahead and try it for yourself. You might have a better interaction than I did. One thing is for sure that the food will be good.

  • Adam S.

5 stars? Why not. Everything was prepared perfectly....eggs Benedict that was still steaming, hash browns done perfect, vegetable omelette that was stunningly good, biscuits like mom used to make? Also have had biscuits and gravy plate and a Baja omelette. The latter could have had a few more ortega chilis in it but otherwise it was cooked to perfection. Still had some bite left in the vegetables and not overloaded with crap cheese (actually got the provolone for my omelette.) Service, super friendly without any fakeness and prices on point. Best traditional breakfast I've had since Cajun Kitchen Cafe in Santa Barbara. Can't wait to return. Highly recommended. Stacky's Best of Escondido Awardâ„¢-Traditional Breakfast

HSH Cafe is so amazing and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this business when reviewing Yelp! businesses in the area. The vibe is country, the staff is really friendly, the prices are fair and the food is amazing. To avoid a wait, I'd suggest avoiding this restaurant during late mornings on the weekends. Also, if you check in on Yelp! you get a free beverage!

Wonderful food! I mean amazing. Had biscuits and gravy and hubby had steak and eggs. The owner and her fiancé are super nice and funny. He is sarcastic but nice and funny. I like how he actually helps out around the restaurant and how they don't just sit around. They actually clear tables and set tables and all that. For sure will be coming back. Oh! And amazing prices. Less than $20 for breakfast. Use the coupon for a free beverage as well.

Went here with my sister for breakfast, it was just alright. The food was good, nothing to jump up n down about. The service was terrible, the moment we walked in the ladies looked at us like the hated us rolling there eyes and not even a single hello. There is not much room for you to wait for a table, you have to wait either outside or in front of the door. If it wasn't raining I'm pretty sure everyone would have been outside waiting but the waitresses looked at us like we were a burden to them waiting by the door for a table. Took a while for food to get to our table, the waitress never once came back to ask how it was, not even to fill our waters. I will probably never be back, which is a shame because the food was good and worth coming back for.

I've been a regular here for just over 2 years. I love it. Currently owned and run by a complete sweetheart, named Lisa. She was a waitress here for years and resurrected the place after it closed. It's now doing better than ever and has a mix of loyal regulars and locals. And of course the food is excellent. It's a diner's diner.

Good food, friendly service, relaxed casual atmosphere, decent value for money. Went during Sunday brunch, 10-minute wait. If parking slots are full, can use other closed business' lots. Place was full of families and happy couples. Don't be put off by its location in an industrial area.

Warm, homey and comfortable dining with great food and staff who love what they are doing. We look forward to returning often and are SO Glad that we found then on yelp! It is hidden in this industrial space, but close to Palomar Medical Center and open before 5AM!!

Where do I begin? This is a comfy family owned type establishment where the decor doesn't match but it just makes it feel cozy and like you're NOT in San Diego but in a small town restaurant somewhere in the middle of nowhere. The coffee mugs are the mismatched kinds you would have at home. The decorations are the kind seen at grandmas house. It's loud, people are laughing and chatting, it's just overall a comfy atmosphere. We loved it. Now for the food. Wow! Home cooking at its best. Eggs were perfect and fluffy. My biscuits and gravy were amazing. Yummy sausage pieces in the gravy. Home fried potatoes with onions and green peppers. Even the toast was good, perfectly crispy with butter. My husband loved his omelette. And his bacon. Fresh fruit was a mix of banana, apples, oranges, grapes, cantaloupe. Very impressed with the food here. Service was great too! We were checked on often and our water was never less than half full. Our coffees were refilled often. And everyone was friendly. We will be back!

Food was great we actually took it to go because the restaurant was a little crowded. There was a 15 minute wait considering it was Memorial Day weekend I wouldn't expect anything less. Everything was delicious great portions I probably will come back to try to eat eat there and set up to go. The pancakes were really good. Mmm

  • Suzanne K.

It's an unassuming diner smack dab in the middle of an industrial park. The decor is quaint with cartoon characters painted onto the glass windows and inspirational & heartwarming signs on the walls. The staff was very friendly and you can tell that the diner was filled with many regulars. My kids and I had hearty breakfasts: The chicken fried steak with eggs was very good. I had the Polskil Kelbassa ( I KNOW I absolutely butchered the spelling ) sausage with eggs. The kid portion of pancakes with eggs and bacon was perfect for my five and seven-year-old. We'll go there again for sure.

You either have to be a local or be regularly in tune to Yelp to even know that Home Sweet Home Cafe exists. It's situated right in the middle of a drab, ugly industrial area off of Enterprise in Escondildo. Indeed, if you were to drive down Enterprise, you would never expect to stumble across this little gem. The exterior of the restaurant's building is revolting, but what goes on inside its doors is what really counts. My parents and I decided to drive over one Friday morning to have breakfast, a departure from their regular breakfast spot in San Marcos. Upon arrival, Home Sweet Home was completely packed. Parking is at a premium; therefore, securing a space can be a daunting endeavor. Upon entry, we managed to secure a table towards the back. Home Sweet Home reminds me of those old and typical greasy-spoon breakfast spots my family used to stop at when traveling north through central California when I was a kid. No frills. It's all about filling up your gut and moving along. The ambiance inside is rather loud, chock-full of local insiders that don't even have to look at the menu to know what they want. It's one of those places where the waitresses know their clientele by name and know what they want before even being seated. Love it. Upon being seated, we were immediately given our own individual coffee cups (none of them look alike). After perusing the menu, I decided to try the Western Omelette with country potatoes. The omelette was delicious and filling. Loved the potatoes, too. My dad opted for the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs. HUGE. Smothered in what looked to be a delicious gravy, it gave him a run for his money, but he gobbled down every last bite. Service is friendly and prompt. Coffee refills without having to ask. The waitstaff do a stellar job keeping their customers happy, in light of how insanely busy they are. It's nice to see little places like this doing so well. Home Sweet Home Cafe has my full endorsement.

Came here for the first time being an Escondido local for 21 years!! Great atmosphere, organized hustle and bustle, and cool coffee cups! I was lucky enough to slide right into the last seat on the counter. I ordered French Toast (only 3 slices in a full order, but it suited well with eggs and hash browns) Coffee was nice and hot along side, claimed my free OJ with my meal. TY YELP! Deedee was my server and she was great, very nice, timely and polite. I serve breakfast as well, so it was nice to eat it myself and enjoy. Would return. Thank you!!

My go to place for breakfast/brunch. Prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get. Also love the quality of food! Pros: -Very reasonably priced -Great portions -Everything tastes great (came here three times so far, ordered 3 different things and everything has been awesome) Cons: -Parking can get a little tough to find, but it's not a huge deal. Definitely try their home sweet home omelet... one of my favorites.

BEST BISCUITS AND GRAVY I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. For around $7 you can get a huge fabulous meal. Only open until 2 so get here early. Hidden in the industrial area in Escondido off Auto Parkway. My favorite place for breakfast in the area and the waitresses are so nice and down to earth. The atmosphere is so cozy.

My fiance and I were enjoying a weekend getaway and decided to give this place a shot for breakfast before we headed to the SD Safari Zoo. Best decision ever! Everything is great here! The unsweetened tea, the mismatched coffee mugs, the super fluffy pancakes and really good eggs and bacon... loved it. Not to mention, it was JUST over $20 for the both of us. If you check in on Yelp, they offer a free drink with the purchase of an entree. Basically pays for tax. Works for me. Thanks! We'll be back next time we're in the area!

I don't get the hype. Breakfast was ok and cheap. Service was ok. Honestly, I probably won't go back. Not a bad experience, but I guess I just expected it to be better all around based on the other reviews. If you want a cheap breakfast and happen to be in the area I suppose it makes sense to go there. Also there is barely any parking.

Nothing out of the ordinary...I'm kind of suprised by the flurry of five star ratings. Parking is non existent but I do want to give a shout out to the cook for helping me out. I pulled into the drive way and ended up near the muffler shop in the back and after making my eight point turn to get of the bottle neck, the cook was waiving at me to take a pot he created. He moved a bunch of boxes and had me park right up against the wall and the back door...I'll take it! The food isn't a five star experience nor is the service, this place is very sub par. They must be doing something right though with the impossible location and parking and all of the flashy reviews....

Good diner food. Excellent service. Luckily, I got to try this place on a weekday. I'd stopped by once before on a Saturday morning and the wait looked too long (what is it with good breakfast places, always packed on weekends?!) The food is standard diner fare - only somehow extra good. I really liked my hashbrowns and my scramble. The biscuits and gravy looked really good too. The service stood out most of all - our waitress and other staff were really awesome and service-oriented. They accommodated our group of 10 with no problem and everyone was happy with their breakfast. No complaints except that maybe the coffee could be stronger... also, they used processed cheese on some of their stuff - real cheese would be infinitely better!!

  • Lidia H.

I visited this location on Labor Day. Even with it being a holiday the wait was less than 10 min. I got the Western Omelette and added provolone & bacon, with a side of fruit. The meal was excellent. There is only one thing I am disappointed about. My biscuit had mold. Yes, mold. I was told it was a poppyseed biscuit. Bullshit. It wasn't. I was just given another biscuit and they said I was given the wrong biscuit. Overall though my meal was great, and I'd still return.

I can't say I have anything bad to say about this place. There was exceptional service, friendly staff, the atmosphere was great and the food delicious. We like to order our kids food first so they're not bouncing all over the place waiting for my husband and I to figure out what we want. Their food was out in less than 5 minutes and of course gone before I figured out what I wanted. While we were there, all of the staff came out to greet us including one gentleman from the back. We were asked multiple times if we needed anything. Even after we told them no, one member of the staff brought crayons and coloring pages for the kids. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated that. Home Sweet Home was better than being at home. At my home I manage to burn jello (no joke. It's a good idea to eat before you come to my house) and possible catch a few things on fire. The food here is great. Again, I don't have one bad thing to say about Home Sweet Home. Thank you for such a great dining experience.

I came here today and they seem really understaffed, we didn't know whether to seat ourselves or to wait, when we sat down we didn't get drinks until after 10 minutes and then someone didn't take our order until 10 minutes after that. The food for me was okay but I wasn't impressed. The portions were reasonable and so are the prices. I probably won't be back because the food was just okay unfortunately, wish it was all around better but at least I tried it.

Stopped in today just before they closed because I was craving a Country Skillet and Grits...I'm not back home in the south so this is the next best thing. I've found two places here in San Diego that offer the perfect mix of comfort food...this is one.

The server was kind, and helpful when I took my order. I ordered the eggs Benedict; I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast this morning. The English muffin was slightly crispy, the ham had great flavor, the poached egg was slightly runny just like I like it. The hollandaise sauce made perfect. I chose to have hashbrowns as my side instead of country potatoes because they're my favorite.

I ate here a long time ago and thought it was pretty forgettable. I moved nearer their location recently and after seeing all the rave Yelp reviews decided to try it again. Walking in, it seems dark and a little dingy, I sat at the counter and everything behind it (microwave, etc) looked like it needed a good cleaning. So then,on to the good: I had the Cajun scramble which was really good and good coffee. Waitresses were right in front of me so service was excellent. Prices are very reasonable. The not as good: Parking, there are 5 spots out front the rest on the side are shared with the other businesses in the building. There seemed to be a lot of regulars so I assume they work within walking distance. Just an average place with a greasy vibe, nothing to go out of your way about, parking can be impossible, I can't imagine waiting in line to get in.

This is our go-to for breakfast. I love it. Nearly every time we go, its busy, but we almost alwasy find a seat quickly. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and extremely attentive. The hundreds of different coffee cups are my faborite touch. I love that they have flavored creamer too! So many places dont. The food is always good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is homey and warm, and the personal touches all over the restarurant make it a quaint little palce to have breakfast. Im definitely a repeat customer!

Thank you Yelp for pointing us to Home Sweet Home Cafe! Even though the decor is a little distracting, the food was DELICIOUS! Having grown up in a family owned restaurant, I love finding places that remind me of that. I ordered the bacon, avocado, and cheese omelet. I chose feta for my cheese and had hash browns and a biscuit. They were very generous with all of the ingredients in the omelet, and it was so good. My husband had the 2 breakfast burrito plate (only $7!!!), and he really enjoyed them. He said they kind of reminded him of the burritos from our favorite taco shop, so that's a definite plus! This place seems jammed full of regulars. We will definitely be visiting again!

My boyfriend and I ate here on a Monday morning, around 9:00. It was a perfect time to go. Plenty of seating and great service. The food was outstanding. My boyfriend loved his biscuits and gravy and I ate the best pancakes, hands down, that I have ever had. Prices are reasonable also. If you do not check this place out, you are missing a hidden gem.

We stumbled upon this place while waiting for some friends (who were late!) to show up so we could get tickets to this brewery nearby. This restaurant is located in a sort of industrial area but we're glad we found it! The place is charming and has that old homey diner feel. Their mugs are all random and funny/cute, which also adds to the charm. There was a short wait, but the staff was friendly. I love breakfast/brunch, so I was excited. We sat at the counter and I ordered the breakfast skillet with eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, potatoes, avocado and my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak. Both were pretty good and I was satisfied. Prices were decent too, and they have parking! I got a spot right out front!

Home Sweet Home is absolutely the best restaurant in Escondido. There food always hits the spot and their service is top notch. They have the most delicious biscuits and gravy!! The staff was so sweet and genuine it felt good to be treated the way we were treated. It's all in the name, this place is like home and we can't wait to come back. They also thanked my fiancé for his service in the military. And it was a genuine we thank you for what you do that almost brought me to tears. Thanks Home Sweet Home!! We wish more restaurants could be like you.

This is really one of the best kept secrets in Escondido. It really shouldn't be though because it is an amazing place for brunch. The hours are such that it caters to early birds (it's only until 1 or 2?) but because it focuses on breakfast and brunch, those plates are delicious. The service is superb as everyone is extremely friendly and kind. The atmosphere is very homely, hence the name home sweet home and it is a cozy place for singles and dates alike. The home sweet home omelette and country fried skillet are definitely go to dishes as both are specialties of the place and done to perfection. This is definitely a place I recommend. It's a great break from all those chains and well worth the affordable price. :)

Absolutely in love. You truly feel like you're at home here! Family owned and operated. Large portions and great selection. My favorite part is all the comic and cartoon mugs they have! Got a Mexican type omelette and it was on point.

Absolutely fantastic! Not from the area so relied on yelp for some guidance. Reviews were spot on. We were there for breakfast. We had sausage and eggs with toast, biscuits and gravy, pancakes. The gravy was amazing. Pancakes were giant and fluffy. Place was packed on a Sunday morning but we were seated pretty quickly. Service was fast and attentive. Looking forward to the next time we are in Escondido.

We were in the neighborhood, and my husband was craving for brunch. We did a quick Yelp search and saw that this restaurant had solid reviews, so of course, we had to come here. Surrounded by a bunch of auto centers and industrial buildings, this restaurant was situated in the most random area. Further, it looked really outdated and almost eerily to come in. We were told that it was going to be a 15 minute wait when really, it took them 45 minutes to seat us. RIDICULOUS, I tell you. Had I known the wait was going to take this long, I would happily be on my way. The food was blah and so not worth the wait. I ordered a ham steak plate and my husband ordered a biscuit. My steak was just sitting on a bed of (under cooked) potatoes. It was just too many potatoes and not enough steak. My husband's biscuit was salty too. Sorry to say, but the experience was just whatever.

Hey homeskillets, try the country skillet here! Even my most hardcore dieting friends can't resist the temptation of crispy crunchy hash browns and sausage covered in mouthwatering gravy topped by two eggs cooked to your liking. If you ask me it's worth the extra gym time required to burn it off. I've taken a pretty thorough tour of their breakfast menu and have to say I've yet to be disappointed! Only minor setbacks are that the coffee isn't my favorite and the parking can be a bit of a challenge (can I park at that random warehouse across the street if it's a weekend?).

It is our second time here and although our 1st one was not very memorable, (we didn't even know we've been here until we're at the parking lot) this time our experience is excellent. Food was so quick and good. Servers were attentive with checking the food and if we need more coffee. It's clean and noise level's at the minimum. It is a bit far from our house which would only be the reason why we would not to visit this place a lot more often but our drive today is well worth it.

food here is good nothing great today they messed order up again then waitress just walked away from wife as she was asking her a question, really odd situation to be put in . also we fought a constant attack of fruit flys. something is just off here...

Home Sweet Home Cafe is by far my favorite breakfast place in Escondido! Delicious comfort breakfast food and super friendly staff. Aptly named too, with charming homey decor and their huge collection of randomly wonderful coffee mugs. Weekends can get a bit busy, but the wait is never too long, and service is pretty quick. I take all my out-of-town visitors here!

Just moved into the area. Looking for Good Food Great Price (GFGP), you know ... a local favorite. This place looked like the one for American food, but sorry, no. - located in an industrial area - gets regular lunch crowd plus loyal customers for old style country vittles. I was looking for a great country fried steak/gravy and even though I ate it all, I'm still on the look for better. Also, I'm been watching too much "Restaurant Impossible", this place really needs to degrease/clean everything ... management's fault ... the wait-staff is great that's why the extra star.

Stopped for breakfast and had amazing eggs Florentine. My guest had corned beef hash and he thought it was great also. Fast service, too!

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday morning for the first time. The restaurant is tiny! Nevertheless, it really does have the homey, patriotic vibe. Cajun skillet: it comes with two eggs, toast and your choice of hash brown or home fries. It was pretty tasty. The dish wasn't sizzling when it arrived to my table. Ah well. Brocolli cheese Omelet: I'm not a fan of omelets, but this one is pretty good. The broccoli were soft and cooked to perfect consistency. I kept seeing a lot of people order gravy. I will have to try that next time. I wish they use fresh orange juice instead of store bough orange juice. -sigh- not a lot of places do it anyway. They have a coupon on restaurant.com . But, their prices are already low. You won't need a coupon.

Just left the place. It was amazing; just like eating breakfast at Grandma's. From their customer service, to the food...everything was up to par. This place is in a weird location and is a little bit of a 'hole-in-the-wall', but of course those are usually the best places. If you live in Escondido or San Marcos, this place is a must to know about and try (at least.) The fiancé, the kids, and myself ate all our food. Good stuff! Try the country skillet with hash browns...you will not be disappointed.

a nice enough place, friendly, with good service and fair prices...the food that we ate, however was pretty bland...one of us had the french toast special - dry and nothing to it, the other was eggs benedict with hollandaise...the sauce was tasteless and they use ham instead of canadian bacon...the waitresses could not have been nicer, and it is very popular, with lots of folks waiting to be seated, but the food that we had does make a return visit likely

Disappointed at the service today. The server did not listen to what we wanted and gave us attitude when we asked her to correct it. We love this place and come often. We mention this place to everyone we know.... Today I would have rather gone to ihop.

The food was good, better than Denny's but nothing exceptional. The place is in the middle of an industrial area and parking is hard; the parking lot only has 15 spaces or so and there's no real street parking. There's parking in the lots of neighboring businesses, but it's at your own risk; there's tow signs everywhere. I had the veggie omelet, home fries, an english muffin, and coffee. Coffee was good, and someone came by to refill my coffee several times (like, literally, I had five cups of coffee). The home fries were pretty good; not too mushy or greasy. The omelet wasn't greasy but just wasn't as flavorful as I'd expected. My good friend had the Tomlet, which she thought was good but not great. The service was good. Putting our name down for a table was weird; no one was around except for one woman ringing up another customer, who didn't greet or otherwise acknowledge my friend and I. But then, after we were seated, the waitress came by and quickly took our order, the food was prompt, and like I said, someone came by and replenished my coffee cup several times.

I've heard a lot of people rave about this place. I decided to check it out with my mom. We both ordered hamburger patty and eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the home fries were great. Both of our hamburger patties were hard as rocks. The seasoning on it was great but I could only eat a couple of bites in the middle of the patty. I had a biscuit. The biscuit was undercooked and very doughy. I was so disappointed in the biscuit. Our server was nice but spent the majority of the time chit chatting with the regulars. She only came by to take order, leave food and drop off check. Another server filled our coffee and brought us extra napkins. I'm going back and forth on giving it another try. If I do go back, I'll add an update.

The food isn't spectacular. However by no means does that say it isn't good. Just, not spectacular. Would I drive miles and miles to come here for breakfast? No. But if I'm hungry, in the neighborhood, and looking for a hearty meal? Yes. The portions are plentiful and very well priced. Expect to get a great meal and coffee for just under $10. The wait staff feels very homey, which translates to friendly people, slow slow slow service. It took about 1.5 hours to order, get our meal and pay.

  • Steve R.

Mediocre chili. Worse service. Server showed up once to take my order, once to deliver food (12 minutes later, for a bowl of chili) once to deliver the check, after successfully avoiding eye contact for 20 minutes. I've been in Escondido for 5 years. This was my first visit to "Home Sweet Home." It will absolutely be my last.

My friends and I come here almost every weekend and we love it here. Food is really good, slightly heavy but thats a good thing because it keeps us full the rest of the day until dinner time. Another plus is 20% discount for all military members!!!!! On top of the already low price, we always tip the waitresses the extra we get on discount because they are super nice. Try their home sweet home skillet, its the best! And try that with cajun sausage instead which makes it even better. Love this place!!!

I've been there a bunch of times and never had an issue. So its odd that a guy who has 1 review and has been on yelp for a few days has "nothing better to do" then to shake a restaurant down for free food. I hope everyone looks at how many positive reviews this place gets instead of 1 guy and his rant because he couldn't get free food from a small restaurant.

okay, WOW! I found this place online and decided to give it a try, and I am so happy I did! The service here is phenomenal. They greet you as you walk in the door and they come to your table right away. They have the best Chicken Fried Steak I've ever had. They use real, never frozen, steaks from a local butcher and they batter it and then fry it. YUMMMY!!!! New favorite cafe. I will definitely be coming back here.

What's with the 5 star reviews? This has got to be the best rated, worst restaurant. The reason could be locals/close friends/relatives bolstering the ratings and have no knowledge/taste of other far superior breakfast eateries in the area "cough" mama Kats. Nestled in a random industrial neighborhood, the decor is certainly uninviting and outdated, this wouldn't matter if the service and food lived up to its expectations as I have been to plenty of "hole in the wall" spots. Service was highly disappointing. Server walks away as gf was inquiring about some of the menu items, forgets to include the gravy in our order, no apology, no courtesy, zip, just an "oh." Idiot. It's definitely odd when the servers are all smiles and jabbering their mouths to all the customers around us and we're left with the company of hundreds of fruit flies. Honestly I think the flies outnumbered the customers that day. Oh yeah service charge, the cherry on the top. According to them " the best kept secret." This rings true, keep it that way .

I HATE DOING THIS TO THEM!! They always deliver and are such a great place for cheap and delicious food. This time they were cantankerous and dismissive with their service. My wife and daughter went and were kept waiting numerous times throughout the visit. Not short waits, but rather for LONG periods of time. They had to call over 3 different servers throughout the day to get anything done. Plus, they weren't super thrilled with the food either. WHAT HAPPENED? We will chalk it up to a ONE time THING and go again, but until we go back again, it is getting a 1 star. I will amend after the next visit.

Best breakfast ever. Party of 6 each had something different and everything came out hot and delicious. Gravy is freaking awesome. This food will take you back to sitting at the kitchen table with your grandma. Very cozy comfortable place. Priced very well. If you're in the San Diego area, it's definitely worth the trip. Very friendly staff and local patrons too!

Great, tasty food! Parking is horrible but food is worth it! They are always super busy so expect a little bit of wait for your food but that's because hey just have soooo many customers! Home sweet home omelet is delicious and heavy that will fill you up!

Home sweet home is my new breakfast place of choice. It really does have that homey feel with their different mugs, decor, and very personable servers. Their menu is huge so there are options for everyone, plus they are open for lunch and they serve both breakfast and lunch all day. Their food can be on the greasy side so be wary of that when you order. In addition, the location is off auto parkway and the parking can be a headache if you are going during a busy Saturday morning. If you are looking for a good hardy breakfast I would definitely give this place a try. Come with empty bellies, because the mounds of food they serve will surely fill you up!

Writing this review is hard because I am sitting in the middle of a food coma. Large and delicious portions of food. Their menu doesn't lie this place is the best kept secret in town. An unassuming cafe in the middle of an industrial park. This greasy spoon place reminded me of the diners I ate as a kid in New Jersey. Definitely coming back here instead of places like broken yolk

While in the area, we felt like a good home cooked breakfast so we scoured yelp and found this little gem. The food was hot, plenty of it, and just like mom makes. Delicious! We will definitely make the 30 minute drive again.

Nice find for breakfast or lunch. First time here and had to try the biscuits and gravy and the breakfast burritos. Gravy has the hearty, southern flavor. Very good. The breakfast burrito is 2 full size packed burritos. Top notch. Wait staff was friendly, attentive and refilled my coffee cup 4 times in about 35 minutes. The coffee was also very good! Felt like breakfast in a homey, comfortable spot with the decor and unique feel. We really enjoyed ourselves and will be back soon!

I stopped in here for lunch while my car was being worked on close by. There were two blond ladies that waited on me (I believe they may have been a mom and her daughter- I'm kicking myself that I didn't get their names). Both ladies provided exceptional service, which further complemented the great food. They also thanked me for my military service which never gets old. Overall, I had a great lunch experience at this restaurant.

Finally! A place in Esco that makes biscuits and gravy good enough to make me forget about the long-gone Texan Diner on Mission!! I dunno what it is these days about B&G, but most restaurants that offer it nowadays aren't bothering to make it from scratch. This place is a little different in that their gravy is made with bacon instead of sausage, but it didn't come out of a can, it doesn't have some weird tart aftertaste like they put buttermilk in it, and it doesn't taste like Campbell''s cream of chicken soup. What it does taste like is the sort of gravy I would make myself by frying bacon, adding flour to make a roux and then adding milk, salt and pepper and whisk to keep the lumps at bay! :) That's all there is to decent country gravy and it's a shame most places find it so difficult to do. Yeah, I'd prefer sausage to bacon in my gravy, but considering what usually passes for country gravy in San Diego county these days, I'll take this, thank you very much. The CFS (chicken fried steak) is likewise excellent and not appearing to be some pre-fab frozen steak; this one is a big, satisfying hunk of cubed chuck. Add the folksy wait staff that treat you like a human being and I must say that I shall return. Folks, you can't eat this stuff every day, but I would sure like to try!

this place was highly recommended by Harry @ Low Price Auto Glass yesterday after our car was done. there was no parking when we pulled up & we could see that the place was full from the outside; I was pleasantly surprised. Inside is homey & decorated w/ all things Americana, love it :) we were seated at the last avail. booth by the friendly waitress where we looked over the menu. we were told the chicken fried steak is amazing but I thought it would be too much and assumed they would use the same gravy for the biscuits & gravy so I got that w/ 2 eggs, 2 bacon & hash browns. my daughter got the pancake breakfast that has 2 pancakes, 2 eggs & sausage link. both were great! my biscuits & gravy were on point delish! my daughter had to take half of her pancakes home since they were huge! took up an entire plate so the rest of her food was on another. I hope to be back soon to try their chicken fried steak next! so cool, families & couples... it had a 'living room' feel.. there was even 2 guys sitting at a neighboring table playing cards waiting for their meals! will be back!

I'm not even sure this place is any good EVERY time I try to get in there I can't...ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING!! It's located off the beaten path. For all I know it's the best breakfast ever, I'm just not going to try again.

I don't know how this place has as many stars as it does. The prices are good but honestly, the food is pretty bad. First time we went here, we got BLT sandwiches and fries for lunch. I didn't finish my food and got pretty sick when I got home. It was really greasy and I think that had something to do with it. Next time I went, we got chicken fried steak and eggs and hash browns. The food came out cold and the chicken fried steak was soggy and seemed old. The gravy was good though. I guess for the prices they offer, you get what you pay for. Wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone. Don't waste your money.

So me and my boyfriend went there this morning. Let me just say this is the worst place I have been to in a long time. Horrible service.. We were told there was no seats but we could sit at the bar if we would like so we decided hey yeah let's do that. We waited and waited finally someone asked us what we would like to drink then walked off and had someone else get it for us which this person messed up and brought me a sprite instead of orange juice really how do you confuse those two. Then we finally ordered and waited 30 minutes and our food still wasn't up we just gave up and went home.. it ruined my date day that we set up every Sunday morning and I was very disappointed.. I will not be returning...

The pancakes were huge and it looked so good, but they were so rubbery. They were not edible. The over-easy eggs were cooked as ordered, hash browns and bacon were "okay," and the corned beef hash tasted exactly like the canned Hormel brand. It was so awful. However, the buttered wheat toast was good! It was good service, but I don't understand why there were 5 waitresses for about 15 tables. Majority of the time we were there, the waitresses stood around the register area and talked and laughed as if they were having a girls get-together because there really was nothing else for them to do. Also, one of the waitresses had on shorts that were so short and tight, there was quite an obvious display of camel toes. Ummm.., not something I want to see when I'm having breakfast! This restaurant needs to downsize their staff, implement a staff dress code, and lower the prices considering the quality. This was my 2nd visit here and I will not be returning.

Ok I have to change my review. Their breakfasts are great, but their lunches are horrible. I have eaten here several times and tried different sandwiches and they all sucked. The last one I had which prompted me to edit my review was a ham and ceder cheese with lettuce and tomato sandwich. It was horrible. Let me tell you they peel off some ham like your peeling a piece of paper off a tablet. This is that processed stuff that is sliced and comes in a package and taste like crap. This is disgusting. When I want a sandwich I want the real deal, not some processed meat. I want ham cut form the bone. I want roasted beef cooked at the restaurant, I want real pastrami, etc etc and I want it thinly sliced and piled high. If I'm having a chicken sandwich I want a whole large chicken breast cut across the grain and layered across the bread, not some whole breast that slides out of the sandwich when you eat it.These are commonly called deli sandwiches. They make a great breakfast but a horrible lunch, they greatly need to improve their sandwiches to include no processed meats and cut thin and piled high. Until I see them pay attention to their lunches and improve them I will not eat another lunch. I hope the owners read this and follow the lead and improve their lunch product. Had breakfast here for the first time and ordered a ham and cheese omelet and the gal (owner) asked me what kind of cheese would I like. Now I don't remember hardly anyplace asking that. So I said cheddar, then she asked if I want hash browns or home fries. I'm always a little weary of home fries as nobody has a clue how to make them right. Anyway she said both are excellent, so I risked it and chose the home fries. Then she asked do you like onion and green pepper and I said sure. Last what kind of toast would you like, English muffin. Now the results, the home fries were the very best I've ever had, the omelet was cooked perfect. All the ingrenents are incorporated into the egg mixture and it was fluffy, which is when the omelet is turned over it is done in a way to incorporate air into the mixture making for a fluffy omolet. The omelets I despise are when they are made when they lay out the wipped egg on the grill and spread it out to cook, then they lay the ingrenents and fold over the thin cooked egg thus nothing is incorporated. Last the English muffin was cook just right, in some places it's usually not done, because for a English muffin to get toasted it take much longer than normal bread. I give Home Sweet Home Café 5 stars for the Omelet and Home Now I've had a chance to try the biscuits and gravy and I must say I was very disappointed. Biscuits and gravy is a very traditional breakfast dish, but few restaurants make it correctly. Biscuits and gravy is supposed to be made with sausage, real sausage, like Jimmy Dean sausage cooked with the grease pulled off and them mixed in with good old fashioned country gravy. However this is not how it is made here and to my surprise I was not able to tell what kind of meat was in it, my guess is they used bacon. Anyway it was not good, therefore I give the Biscuits and Gravy 2 stars. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it did have meat otherwise it would have received 1 star.Fries. Next I'm going to try their biscuit's and gravy. This is going to be a big test as most places make up the gravy and leave out the sausage or at best sprinkle in a few bits and it tastes terrible. Some even use mystery meat. Once I have the opportunity to try their biscuits and gravy I'll be here to report the results. I hope I'm not disappointed, thus far I love this little Gem. I now have had a chance to try the Biscuits and Gravy and I must say I'm very disappointed. I could not tell what kind of meat was used, but my guess is it was bacon. Biscuits and Gravy is supposed to be made with sausage, Jimmy Dean type sausage, cooked with the grease pulled off and mixed in with good old fashioned southern gravy, For this dish I give it 2 stars, I would have only given it 1 star but because it did have some meat I gave it 2 stars.

I'd love to write a book about this place, follow the lives of the staff and regulars. If you've read Empire Falls by Richard Russo and fell in love with The Empire Grill, you'll love this place. The owner, a former waitress at the cafe, runs it beautifully and chooses fantastic waitresses to help her out. They all feel like her friends and have the same invested attitude. They're all over 30, care about serving you, and don't speak in corporate restaurant patter. It's like going back in time to eat at Home Sweet Home Cafe. We haven't tried everything there, mainly because they are so accommodating and happy to modify one of their skillet plates into a dish we absolutely love and hadn't had in years. It's so delicious, we rarely order anything else. But their portions are hearty, their ingredients fresh, their service fast--even when they're super crowded on the weekends, which is almost always. Love their coffee and that they serve it in non-restaurant supply mugs: Peanuts, Sponge Bob, quotes, etc. Wonderful touch.

I guess you just have to like this kind of food. I went with a friend this morning. She loves biscuits and gravy and country music. She said her breakfast was very good. I had a short stack. The pancakes were chewy. So take this review for what it's worth.

This place is in a poor excuse for a business park at the end of an auto mall. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall dive. This and the service and the DELICIOUS food make it the best place in SoCal for breakfast. You may be greeted by a waitress that looks like a super model or one who looks like your Aunt Gerty, either way they will call you, "Hun" and do all they can to make sure you are comfortable and well fed. I have a lot of food allergies which means I have no business in a place like this. But somehow I had the best breakfast ever! The Juevos Rancheros looked delicious but no eggs or cheese for me. In spite of being busy, the waitress listened to my P in the A requests and together we came up with the home fries and beans smothered in a delicious and incredibly spicy home-made ranchero sauce. Oh my! A note to the sales force in that auto mall; Send each prospect to this place. They'll buy the car out of shear gratitude!

Went there for breakfast, everyone in our group was happy. Basic breakfast food done well, what more could you ask for. Service was great, even suggesting the kids only get just one pancake to start, good idea, the pancake was pretty big. I'd frequent the place if it wasn't 400+ miles away. If you can find it, go ! BTW, it's pretty close to Stone Brewing, another must see.

So, the first time I decided to meet some friends at Home Sweet Home I arrived first and waited a bit before someone noticed me and gave me some coffee and I was a bit unsure if I liked them or not. Then I came back and noticed that they are just a very busy place! Great food and nice people. I'll probably make this a regular stop along side with other greats in the area like Little Debbie's Pie Shoppe and Mama Kat's. Check them out if you are near the Auto Park

If you have to be in Escondido and you want the best breakfast ever, then go find this place. The food is all homemade and it is excellent. Their chicken-fried steak is amazing and the portion is huge. Their hash browns are also really good, very buttery and a generous portion. I also definitely recommend the biscuits and gravy, which melt in your mouth. They have the BEST gravy (it has bacon in it!). If I'm ever back in Escondido, this is where I'll be eating breakfast!

This place was amazing, seriously! At first we thought it was in a weird spot, but we went with it. There wasn't parking at first, but people were leaving so we snagged a spot in the parking lot. Oh my goodness the food was soooooo good. I got Eggs Benedict, which was scrumptious! My girlfriend got the French Toast, which was unbelievably juicy and delicious. I wanted to eat hers! But mine was so good too! We also had to try the biscuits and gravy, I mean, that's what they're known for, right?!?! Soooooooo good, the gravy, wow, I can't wait to go back and pig out!!

Was hesitant at first due to industrial location .. GO IN!! Friendly staff, yummy breakfast, good prices- can't ask for more than that!! Western omelette was delish, biscuits and gravy yumm, serve coffee with a whole carafe of creamer! Gotta love that!

Home sweet home Cafe gives you the home away from home. Their oatmeal with the works give you a nice start to any day. While any one of their skillets can really make your Monday feel like a Sunday. Their strong hot coffee is the perfect complement to any option you choose. Just the other day I noticed the ladies had added a new member to the family, Mrs. Cholula. They have always had Mr. Tapatio but Mrs. Cholula will add so much more flavor to those home fries. I usually order from the a la carte items: Avocado, 1 egg scrambled with wheat toast...oh and don't forget the Cholula.

Delicious "greasy spoon diner". Inexpensive. Excellent service... every time! There's nothing pretentious about this place. It feels like your sitting at your grandma's breakfast table, which is the way a diner SHOULD feel. Home Sweet Home Cafe is my go-to breakfast spot.

Nice to have a home cooked meal when you are away from home! Had lunch here while my car was getting worked on next door. Good service Good food.

In this town, popular chain restaurants seem to be the last resort for breakfast. This town, being Escondido, is where there is an abundance of mom 'n' pop, sort of hole in the wall yet homey restaurants that serve food that don't have to be played up with colorful menu folders and semi-aesthetically-pleasing food presentation to compensate for taste. It's probably best to opt for the lesser known places. Perhaps, I'm doing a disservice to myself by getting this place on the map; but then again, I'm for the underdogs. Usually one to take chances, especially when it comes to food, I comply with the meager reviews I see on yelp for Home Sweet Home Café; I must add that reviews were high when I checked. It's hard to forget about a place like this especially when you start to wonder what a small diner like HWH is doing in an industrial business park (read: truckers and cement workers) on a street called Enterprise, a road I've never come across during my few years here. Anyway, the food... the pancakes are wonderful. Not exactly cake-y as one would expect, but still pleasantly textured that I probably should have gone without the syrup just so I could pay more attention to the nice chewiness of the hot cake. (Perhaps I'm making this hot cake a bit more special than intended. But if you look at it, don't you think that's an added perk??) Also, the special of the day, corn beef skillet, was delicious. Everything in the dish is made in house with home fries, diced veggies and a fried egg on top, all served in a small skillet - there's your food presentation right there. Free tip: pour the salsa that they offer on top (they offered!). If I had to balance out my awesome review of this place, I would just place a small complaint about their syrup and butter, but then again, I don't really care for those anyway. Service is great. The waitresses at this place are friendly and always on top of things. This place seems to have their regulars, which is comforting to know, but aside it being for the good eats, I get the feeling people keep on coming back here more for the friendly and familiar ambiance than anything. Good food. Good service. Good prices. Try this place out for breakfast for all three, or just to "get out of Escondido" for a bit.

When my husband suggested this place and said it was in the industrial park area of Escondido, I gave him a weird look. However, he did not disappoint me and neither did Home Sweet Home. While the menu is basic, the food is spiced to perfection. The atmosphere is adorable, as you feel as if you were in your grandmother's dining room. Everyone is polite, helpful and friendly. I would pick this any day over your typical Coco's, Denny's or IHOP.

Delicious food! I'm not from the area but I stopped here for brunch on a visit. Huge portions!! Very affordable!! Great service!! Cute intimate setting. I had the chicken fried steak and it was big and very good! Definitely will come back again!!!

Glad we found this gem in San Marcos. The staff is friendly and the portions are generous. I'll start with the gravy. Creamy, rich and the bacon base is a nice touch. The hollandaise sauce is very flavorful. You can really taste the eggs and it has a slight touch of sourness. The breakfast burritos are fantastic. They give you TWO of them, first of all. The tortillas are soft and dry. Their breakfast potatoes are cooked perfectly (not hard like a lot of places tend to do) and they don't put too much egg in them. Also, the guacamole on the side is home-made. Make sure to try the biscuits and gravy. The kielbasa sausage is wonderfully salty. I can't really speak for the lunch items, but breakfast here has been great so far.

I am a breakfast connoisseur... this place is AMAZING. The biscuits and gravy are the best in town, that is, unless you're from the south and you or your grandma can do better... but as far as San Diego breakfast is concerned, this is the best place to get biscuits and gravy. I wish they offered Cholula, but they make a damn good home made salsa. Bacon should be thick cut... it's weird that it's thin. (P.S. Best bacon in town for a breakfast joint is the Spice House in Clairemont). This place is in a random location, never too busy... a lot of rednecks frequent this place (which is a good sign, because rednecks know good breakfast). They don't have two coffee mugs that match, but what gets poured in taste great.

Honest, fair, no frills and to the point breakfast. Nice staff, clean, and quick service. Nothing about this place stands out. Upon first being there, I would have said, "3 or 4 stars", but keep going back and time after time, I just can't find better. Truly a 5-star place filled with 5-star people. Wonderful.

My favorite part of Home Sweet Home Cafe is that it actually feels like home cooking. They are super friendly to everyone who walks in, making them feel comfortable and welcomed. I always get the cajun scramble with no eggs and it is delicious every time. They're not trying to be fancy or anything so don't expect it. It is just comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable food. Whenever I go back home, I always stop here for breakfast.

Me and my wife came here for lunch and it was really decent, she had breakfast burritos and I had a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy with a philly cheese steak sandwich. my wife enjoed her burritos and i liked the biscuits and gravy they use bacon gravy and the sandwich i had better hopes for it wasn't anything close to a philly cheese steak sandwich the meat was bland in flavor and it was cut way too big your supposed to shred the steak the veggies were also too big as well they should of minced them more then cook them all together once they are cooked you add the provolone cheese and mix it then add mayo on the bun and put it all inside, so ya it was a bit of a let down but i used the left over gravy and made it better, all in all it was still a good dining experience, very friendly staff and wait times were on key :)

Not from the area but got this place off yelp and the biscuits and gravy are delicious I like my home fries more well done so I will go with the hash browns next time my wife had the banana bread french toast witch was good but dont but alot of syrup it is very sweet to begin with. Very small and of the beaten path with great service. I will be back when I can I live 75 miles away.

Just by the looks of this place, I never thought it would taste as good as it did. The soup Du jour was hamburger macaroni?.? I know right? I was intrigued, so I ordered it, loved it, and so did my daughter! In fact, she took it from me, it was that good! Great place, great service. Thank you fellow yelpers!

Food was good. Staff is friendly, but didn't come back to check on us until brining the bill. I had the chicken fried steak, which was good and the gravy was good. It was busy when we got there, only two tables, but it's a small place.

Great food! Getting drinks refilled and a bill could be improved, but only minor detractors. Wife had Cajun sausage and eggs; I had biscuits and gravy with poached eggs. Food was well seasoned and portions were outstanding!

I walked over from FAST Service Center while my car was getting looked at. All I can say is they warn you that sausage is in the burgers! That's like warning me of extra awesomeness. I will return soon and often! The server was nice and quick with our order even though it was about 20 till close. Very friendly and the food was EXCELLENT!

Went here for the first time today. Found good reviews online and I must say, I agree! I would have given it five stars except there isn't great parking and the service was a little slow. However I understand because it was bustling. And no wonder! The food is really good. I got the Don Juan: eggs and a sausage Patty on an English muffin and smothered in yummy gravy. He had the chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, and a side short stack. All good. Great prices and great food in a comfortable atmosphere.

Don't be deterred by location. Good breakfast even for jaded LA brunch snobs like me. Super friendly and helpful staff, and I even created my own spinach, avocado, mushroom scramble. Even better if you like the Southern fried stuff, but if you're a healthy brunch eater, there's plenty for you.

I just came from Home Sweet Home Cafe for breakfast! The food was outstanding, the staff beyond friendly! I've lived in the Escondido area for 35 years and never knew about this local treasure. This will be our new breakfast hot spot! Prices are VERY good for the amount and "quality" of food. I'm sold!!

Jeanne and I went based on Yelpers reviews. Everything was okay. The orange juice taste fresh. If was from concentrate I would love to know the brand. What I wanted was not on the menu and there was no problem making the omelet I requested. I like my eggs fluffy and Home Sweet cooks them well. Lots of ingredients in the eggs which is a huge plus. i could see the spinach and mushrooms. The Swiss cheese was processed and laid on the top and melted. I opted out of the home fries and hash browns... not a greasy potato person. Jeanne ate halt of her omelet and hash browns, but loved the biscuit. A table near us order the oatmeal with everything and it looked delicious. I will be going back to try the oatmeal and the pancakes.

Such a homey little cafe. Service and food was great. I had a veggie omelet and hashbrowns. Keith and country fried steak with gravy that was amazing (I only got a little bit because of my lactose intolerance). It is located in the business park in Escondido near the auto dealers. If you like home cooked food, this place is great.

I absolutely love this place! The location is a little scary looking [I thought I'd missed a turn] because it's near all these construction/warehouse businesses, but it's very home-y decor and great little mugs always keep me coming back. The service is great! Always a smiling face and I had all of my questions answered and the food didn't take too long either. My boyfriend and I always order way too much food so we can take it home and eat it later :] What I've had so far: Biscuits and Gravy - 4/5 French Toast Solo - 3/5 Onion Rings - 5/5 Breakfast Burritos - 5/5 There's nothing bad to say about the hash browns and the eggs were cooked perfectly when I ordered them over-easy and then again later when i ordered them over-medium. Great place! You absolutely must try it here!

Awesome food, awesome price! Yeah its in a more industrial looking area, but I think it adds to the charm. Place was hopping, and it was obvious that the majority were locals. Super friendly service, and everyone in our party thought the food was the best we ate on our mini vacation.

This is truly a 'hidden' gem of Escondido. If you love chicken fried steak and eggs...this is the place! Never had it better anywhere else. Their soups and gravy are literally 'too die for!'. Home Sweet Home would be my choice for my last meal. Staff is great and very willing to accommodate the customers on whatever they request. I will be a emailing Guy Fieri to nominate Home Sweet Home as my favorite "Diners, Drive-in and Dives!'

Every time we come here, we are treated like family. My husband is obsessed with their biscuits and gravy and my omelet is always perfect. Our favorite breakfast spot hands down. Every time we go somewhere else, we always compare it to HSHC and the other place is always left lacking.

Great breakfast. Had the sausage skillet. Coffee was good as well. Feels as if you were in a town far away from the city. Loved the atmosphere. Old school Diner would be the defining words. I'll definitely be back . Nice and friendly staff...

What can I say, they could not have picked a better name. They welcome you in with open arms and make you feel at home. Waitress was amazing and I let her order for me which always seems to get you the best of the best. Who else knows the menu better and eats the food everyday so they always have great picks. Chicken fried steak breakfast was amazing and the biscuits and gravy are better then moms. The staff seems to know 3/4 of the customers by name. Great place to eat and only wish I was in the area more often.

Sometimes you are craving a specific taste. I'd never been here but really wanted simple grilled cheese sandwich. Found this place so I decided to give it a go. I know a grilled cheese is such an easy sandwich to make but my god this tasted exactly like what I wanted. It was delicious. By far one of the best I've ever had. Sourdough bread (with some type of seasoned butter) and american cheese. Perfection. Fries are really good too. Minor complaint. No buffalo sauce to dip sandwich. Great prices too.

My first time at this charming, friendly and home style restaurant. The food was great and the service friendly and sincere. Since we were from out of town, I chose this diner based on reading the yelp reviews. Our teens slept in and by the time we decided to go out to eat...it was closer to 11am. Fortunately, we missed the breakfast crowd. Our teenage boys loved drinking a bottomless glass of orange juice. Our party of five enjoyed our breakfast. The service was friendly and quick. We enjoyed our meal.

If you're looking for home style cooking and friendly staff go here! Fun ambience. We came here for breakfast. The coffee was hot and served in huge and very diverse mugs. It was a bit weak for my taste but most diner coffee is. I had the French toast and bacon. All good. My husband and my son both had biscuits and gravy which appears to be a house specialty. Gravy was on the cool side but tasted great. Would definitely return if we're ever in the area again.

It says on the menu "Best kept secret in town" and I agree. The place has a great old diner feel. From the older gentleman sitting out front drinking his coffee and saying good morning, to the counter with the bar stools. Everyone working knew most of the people in there and would call out "morning Joe , coffe? " The staff was nice and the food was great. I had the home sweet home omelet. I'm so full right now! It was covered in heavenly gravy. My boyfriend had the Cajun skillet. It was devoured so I didn't get to try it. I love finding a great breakfast place.

2.5... Met up with a couple of friends for breakfast. This place is straight up in the industrial area. I would have missed it if I hadn't seeing the small "CAFE" sign with a designated arrow pointing to it. I ordered a custom veggie omelet (with egg whites) with a side of biscuit and gravy. The omelet wasn't anything spectacular and their biscuit/grave wasn't the best ever (so they claim). The service took a little while and our waters weren't refilled as often as other tables. It appears that a lot of locals come to this cafe as patrons were conversing with the employees. Cheap breakfast, but wasn't impressed... Note: There's a Yelp check-in offer and a promo on their website.

Don't let the location deter you from trying this restaurant. It was my first time there and I had the biscuits and gravy. It was soooo good!!! I love the fact you could order 1/2 an order or a full order. The staff was nice. Next time I want to try the Eggs Benedict.

I feel like we found a hidden gem is Escondido. I am a breakfast fanatic and my fiance is not. So getting him to love a breakfast place is difficult. We've been a few times now and each time the service is always awesome. Really does give you a welcomed feeling. And the decor is definitely that of a homey kind of place. Classic breakfast served fast and hot!! I always leave here with my tummy full and ready for a nap. If you're local or even from out of town, I would recommend it for sure! Don't expect anything fancy though, just good old fashioned breakfast! Yummmm!

Just got home. Barely made it up the stairs. Full order of the Biscuits and Gravy - handled the whole thing French Toast Special - devoured Girlfriend got Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs - she unwillingly shared half of that with me Food was awesome. All the ladies that work there are super nice. I will definitely be going back.

Great pancakes and service! Found Home Sweet Home thanks to a groupon! While I am a huge fan of the Pancakes (they have earned the right to be called HOTcakes, always super fresh!) the food is simple, delicious and service is fantastic! Keep your eyes peeled when visiting the 1st time because its nestled right between other businesses. I recommend your 1st time visit be on a Sunday, surrounding business's are closed and the only cars on the street are at Home Sweet Home.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's less than 2 miles from my home and the food and atmosphere is fantastic! And the prices are really reasonable too! I would give this place 6 stars if I could!

  • Gideon S.

As someone who has been cooking their own breakfast for decades, I consider myself to be something of an expert at completely screwing up a relatively easy meal. Plus I'm incredibly shallow and will completely judge a breakfast solely by the hash browns. This place NAILED it! Probably some of the very best hash browns I've had since, uh, ever. But perhaps I'm a bit ahead of myself... Got the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast because other Yelp reviews highly recommended it. It did not disappoint, and that's totally aside from the fact that it was easily more than twice as large as I was expecting to receive considering the price. And I'm usually not a fan of the light colored gravy that typically accompanies such fare, but since the gravy they serve here is somewhere between Awesome-Sauce and Transcendental, I may have to make this my go-to place when I need a gravy-fix. Pile on that the staff is very genial and attentive, the premises very very clean & well maintained, and the overall ambiance made me feel like a very welcome regular, Home Sweet Home is likely one of the most aptly named dining experiences to be had. Srsly, eat here. Reward yourself. You deserve it.

We discovered this "hole to n the wall" place using yelp.... What a gem! The waitress is always so friendly and the homestyle food is wonderful.. We usually get the heuvos rancheros. Portions are big so go with an appetite. Parking can sometimes be tough here but it's soooo worth it.

Home Sweet Home Cafe is located in a random industrial area of Escondido and is decorated with rural area American pride. I ordered the Cajun Skillet, which had a bit of spice but tasted great. The eggs, hash browns, peppers, and sausage made a great combination. I also did a half order of the biscuits and gravy which also tasted great. I only ate some of it because the flavor can get a little redundant. Service was good and many people seemed to be returners who knew the servers. I recommend this place for breakfast and brunch. I haven't tried their sandwiches or lunch plates, but I won't mind coming back to try out the other dishes if I am in the area.

We visited this restaurant for the first time the day after Christmas and then again this morning. . Found it on yelp with a 4 and 1 /2. Liked the look of the menu and decided to try. As others have noted the location might put you off but don't let it. The food is excellent. . We had at our table, avacado/bacon/cheddar omelet, French toast, Cajun sausage skillet, pancakes, Don Juan(gravy style eggs benidict) and everything was spot on. My son and family live in Escondido and had never been there. They now have a new breakfast/lunch place and we will request a stop there any time we are in town. A must try. Expect a wait. Service was good and staff was very nice and helpful.

Fantastic. Perfect down home Amerjcan breakfast. We were traveling south on 15 Fwy and Yelped " good breakfast. Glad we did. Pancakes light and fluffy, veggie omelet full of fresh veggies. Hand made sausage patty, fresh fruit. Friendly staff. Would have given them a 5 star rating except for the bathroom. It needs some help.

Sitting in this cute little diner made me want to move to SD. If everyone down here is like the crowd and the staff of HSH Cafe, I want these people in my every day life!! The place was packed, we waited 20 minutes outside. There were little chairs everywhere, and some shade to be found. After a while, we are called in and were sat at what looked like grandma's big round oak kitchen table with matching chairs. The servers all seemed genuinely happy to work there. Their "uniform" is shorts and flip-flops... Can't get better than that!!! The food took a while, and I was so hungry I can't tell you definitively that it was the quality of the food that was amazing or just me. I got Eggs Benedict. My friend got the Don Juan?? Something like that. It was my meal, with gravy and sausage instead of hollandaise and Canadian bacon.. He said it was amazing and pretty much licked the plate clean. I saw two separate couples get up to leave, and stop to kiss each other as they did. Very loving atmosphere. Maybe I need to get out of L.A. more often.

Had to go to a funeral in San Marcos & needed to grab some breakfast before the memorial. I looked on Yelp for nearby restaurants & Home Sweet Home came up with good reviews. When we first arrived we almost didn't go in because it was in an industrial area & looked a little scary from the outside. I'm so glad we decided to give it a try. Portions were big & inexpensive. The Don Juan (i think it's the name) is a sausage egg muffin covered in gravy with hash browns, YUM! Also chorizo & eggs very good. If you check in on Yelp you get a free beverage with meal. They actually let my husband get a chocolate shake for the free beverage for breakfast. SCORE!!!! That shake was thick chocolatey deliciousness in a cup. I doubt if i will ever be back in that area but if i am, you know where to find me....

I guess I got lucky the very first time I ate here because everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. It must have been a fluke because the second time I ate here, they served me raw potatoes in both my hash browns and home fries! I should have know it was too good to be true--a local joint with consistently reliable good food.

This is a great little place. Tucked away in a commercial area, I was pleasantly surprised to discover it. I love biscuits and gravy and they don't do too bad of a job. The prices are decent and service is top notch. They don't have a ton of seating though so you just gotta get lucky and hit it right or else you'll wait a little. It's usually not too bad though and it's definitely worth it.

Excellent breakfast spot. My little man and I shared a spinach feta omelet .. It was soooo tasty, Good prices, good service and good all around value. we were able to use the check in offer and got a free beverage. that was cool. If you want a real deal home cooked meal , with no frill, this is the place to hit.

My wife and I showed up at Stone Brewing Company two hours early! Doh. So let's have breakfast. Do you see anyplace that serves breakfast around here? Thank God and Apple for the iPhone - it finds places that the average person couldn't. Getting to Home Sweet Home was like having a third world nightmare - right next to a bulldozer and a big pile of dirt at the end of a barricaded street. Place was packed with locals (what else?) and noisy. It was decorated in American flag and patriotism. It appeared to be family-run because many of the servers looked like they shared some genes with the head lady (and they called her Mom). We were promptly seated and coffeed. I ordered the Don Juan special, which my server said was her favorite - sausage, eggs, and country gravy on an English muffin. Home fries or hashbrowns, she asked. (hmm, it's her favorite) What do you recommend? I like the hashbrowns extra crisp with fried onions and peppers. Can you do that for me? Yes. My wife had a giant bowl of fruit and some cottage cheese. The Don Juan was great, and the onions and peppers over the hash browns was a promise come true. If I lived near, I would eat here often.

Only reason for the 2 stars was for the young lady who actually acknowledged the fact that my boyfriend and I were sitting down at an empty table after we placed our order an hour ago...yep, a whole fucking hour. I really wanted to like this place, but seeing that I didn't even get to eat because they completely forgot about us, made us take our growling tummies to the nearest Chipotle. The gentleman who sat us down was really kind and courteous and even offered us a bigger table since we were crammed in this small ass corner. It was unfortunate the lady who took our order forgot to give it to the kitchen. YOU HAD ONE FUCKING JOB. Besides, I wasn't going to wait another minute for a mediocre breakfast that I can get at an Ihop.

So i returned and this place has good home cooked meals the ONLY thing we dont like is the staff. They are not prompt, they eat in front of there guest while working, if you tell them you need a little more time they take FOREVER to return or to even look up to see the customers menus are closed. They are also very slow movers if you ask for something. Props to the cooks!!!

Parking in this divey industrial business hood was a total -- dis-ASS-ter. Their small lot was packed full and on a weekday it seems workers of local businesses occupied every other space known to man. Please HEED MY WARNING...do not park in the very back of the lot (next to the restaurant). There is a giant diesel truck tire lying on its side and trust me when I tell you want to be as FAR away from that heinous artifact as you can. The cafe's ( homesweethomecafe.net ) exterior looks new and plain but when you enter the dining room it is straight out "Old Skool Midwestern Diner". "Tude" is a running theme here. In reality we experienced no attitude with the staff. They were accommodating, friendly and efficient. Bella said her dish was awesome! Yes, most breakfast food is simple eating but she said she's had plenty of subpar "Egg's Benedict" dishes and this was definitely not one of them. The breakfast burritos come as a pair and I chose one with breakfast sausage and one with chorizo. I forgot to veto the breakfast potatoes which added too much bulk. I should've asked for crispy hash browns instead. One burrito was eaten at the restaurant and one went home. Bella says I never miss an opportunity to visit the "can" when we go out. Thankfully, I didn't miss this one either. Note: See the pics from the restaurant posted on Yelp.

WOW!!!!! I found this place on Yelp and found great reviews, so I decided to give it a shot. NO DISAPPOINTMENT! I thought it would be a long wait to be seated, as there were 4 families ahead us......nope. We had out table in less than ten minutes. When I got my coffee, it was in a huge mug, which was great because I didn't have to wait for refills the entire time (although they cam frequently). The food - the portions were perfect, and the flavor was even better! Straight home cooking at its finest. I've country skillets all over America, and this place was the best. I will be coming back soon!!!

Finally made it to Home Sweet Home Cafe for breaky. Been meaning to eat here for a while. It was Sunday morning and I was worried it would be packed, but while busy there were two tables available. We grabbed the two top and ordered our food. The husband had chicken fried steak & eggs and reports they were good. I ordered my usual two eggs over easy with bacon and sourdough toast. I am VERY pleased to say that for the first time in a LOOOOONG time, my toast was actually toasted to golden goodness just like it's supposed to be. HOORAY! The hash browns were also crispy as was the bacon. Unfortunately, the bacon was overdone and not so great. But, overall, I enjoyed my food. Staff was friendly and everyone there pitched in , so we saw several different people. I'll definitely go back. It's definitely A-OK.

I would probably give this place 3 1/2 stars, but I'll go with four for a couple of reasons. One, I ordered the biscuits and gravy even though I have never had a positive biscuits and gravy experience (Cracker Barrel, company potluck). It's possible that I just don't like this item, and I wouldn't like it even if it were made by the best down home southern cook in the world. Two, the hash browns were awesome: crunchy, flavorful and I couldn't get enough of them. Three, the bacon and scrambled eggs were mediocre, but I am a bacon snob; my friend was very happy with them. What I really liked most about this place was the comfortable, casual and friendly atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and were happy to help with all of my friend's unusual requests. There's a reason this place is so busy even though it's located in the heart of Escondido's industrial wasteland.

Good breakfast spot with a good price. The chicken fried steak was amazing and the country gravy was the best I've had in a while. Pancakes were light and fluffy and the eggs were cooked great. Definitely coming back here!

Well tried this place because it was top rated . Look I only ordered coffee and oatmeal. The oatmeal was like not cooked and watery also had black coffee that was not tasty either .waitress never came by to refill.

I found this spot thanks to YELP! It is located in an industrial area, surrounded by businesses and right off the train tracks. Immediately upon entering, the environment reminds you of Old school style diner/drive/dine-In. This place looks just like places i've seen in the Midwest.. American flags everywhere, old wooden decorations, etc. Yes we were the ONLY ASIANS in there, YES people DID STARE but went back to their conversations... haha We sat in the corner along the wall towards the right and was swarmed by flies, YUCK!! My bf ordered corn beef hash, biscuit and gravy, and extra bacon on the side. I got the bacon, avocado omelet, and since I don't eat beef or pork, i asked to get the bacon on the side to give to my friends. My other friend got the home sweet home omelet which came with everything: cheese, bacon, veggies, sausages, eggs, and gravy poured on top. We all finished our meals and was quite please for the most part. It did not take long for the food to come out. The avocado was fresh, the bacon on the side was surprising a lot, 5 whole strips!! We took advantage of the yelp check-in and got ourselves a free drink (DONT FORGET TO CHECK IN!) My bf said his corn beef hash was alright. but the biscuit and gravy was delicious! The gravy is homemade, i believe there are little chunks of bacon in it. I tried a piece and found myself dipping my toast into the gravy. I would definitely go here again. It doesn't look like a spot that gets super busy often. I mean, when we came it was about half full, but they said its typically like that, even on a Sunday at the heart of brunch time.

The servers were nice. We got in quickly and were served quickly. My only problem, which is a big one was that the food was not good. We got the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was bland and had no sausage in it. The pancakes were too thick and somehow chewy, also bland. The bacon was good.

If I could give this place more stars, I would. This place is amazingly good. Now I am generalizing here, but white folks and southerners, typically know their gravy. The country gravy on their biscuits and/or chicken fried steak is just how my Aunt Lee, southern-est southern belles, gravy was. She made everything from scratch. And this place has that same loving care flavor mixed right in. The pancakes are huge and fluffy and so good (just how I like my men lol). Home fries were tasty and hash browns were perfection. Even the toast was done just right. The service was superb...super friendly. We even learned something from the young gal there: if you high five someone, look at their elbow as they are fiving you; you won't miss. I tried it. It works. The restaurant is small so there might be a wait, but we went on a Saturday and we waited no more than 20 minutes. If you go, nay, when you go, make sure you get some biscuits and gravy...you will have a piece of heaven on Earth.

Had a mini-reunion on xmas eve with Maria C and Dan P. This place was okay. It felt like a small town cafe. Looked like a nice place to bring your family for breakfast. The location is kinda off though. Barely saw the sign for cafe when driving up and it's surrounded by all these industrial type of businesses. I would never guess a restaurant would be on that street. So it's basically a hidden restaurant. I ended up ordering an omelet with spinach and feta cheese and added on cheddar cheese. The omelet was okay. I thought it was small but I can't finish my food anyways so it doesn't really matter. In other reviews people talked about the buiscuits. I didn't really like the buiscuit. What was good was the gravy. The gravy should be a soup. It's creamy with bacon. mmm. Im not even a fan of bacon but I really did like their gravy. Maybe i'll come back if I have family in town and they don't want to leave escondido. It is nice because it's local and decent prices. Really friendly people working there as well. Food was just okay. Nothing that special.

Home Sweet Home Care in Escondido is my 9 year olds favorite place for breakfast. Great place to take a large family. Portions are big so come with an appetite. We've tried most things on the breakfast menu and have never been disappointed. Family atmosphere and friendly staff. I would have rated a 5 if they had lighter menu options and the portions are just too big.

We drove down from Loma LInda to San Diego wild animal park, and we stopped by at Home Sweet Home Cafe for breakfast on Sunday. The place is very easy to find, and located in the area surrounded by industrial places. So if you go on Weekend the area is free of traffic. The Cafe settings is so cozy and you really feel like home. The services are superb. The waitress so helpful, friendly and very kind. She really makes us feel so welcome. Seems to me that she knows we are first timer, just by listening to the conversations between other customers and the workers there. Seems they know each other for a longtime. They called some customers by name that tells you how closed their relationships are. The decor just like a cozy home sweet home would be like. We order the cheese omelette, breakfast burrito and coffee. The portions is huge. 2 big breakfast burrito filled with fries, cheese, eggs and bacon. The food is very good. You got "check-in" offer, just too bad that we already paid for our food then I checked in. But I still can use it for next visit. For sure we will be back soon.

Well, after a short wait, we got seated and they took our drink order right away. Then we waited...and waited for someone to take our food order. Twelve minutes we waited. They just forgot about us. I was not impressed with the service after we were seated. The food was good, but the service was inadequate. I may give them one more chance, but if the service is the same, I will give them one star.

This was our first time here. Based on yelper reviews, this sounded like a nice little dive-y diner that caters to the working masses. Well, they were right. Even on a Saturday morning, there seemed to be a lot of hard working locals that are greeted on a first name basis. The waitresses were cute and friendly. But contrary to most other reviewers, my food experience was a big disappointment. Were we at the right restaurant or was I victim to an uninspired chef who sneaked in through the back door, then left after our meal? I ordered a ham skillet breakfast. The potatoes were good. I give them that. But caramelized onions and bell pepper? Nah, not even close. And the generous chunks of ham were just plain bland, not salty, smoky good. Hubby had a steak breakfast. Steak, to me, is an iffy thing at a small diner like this. They tend to buy a medium grade steak, so its just OK, but not tender. That is what today's was. Now, about the biscuits and gravy. It was just as described by another reviewer, creamy, well peppered, with lots of chunks of mystery meat (not sausage, not bacon, maybe ground pork). I had asked for a taste before we even put in our order. Hubby liked the gravy. I was not as enamored. The chef seems to love garlic. Way too much. The gravy, and also the homemade salsa, were very garlicky, and that turned me off. Well, glad hubby was happy. But even he ,who is known to scrape the plate, left some behind. Didn't even go in the take home box. And the biscuits. What is going on here? They were straight out of the box from Restaurant Depot. Not even a small effort to disguise them. And NOT flaky. Just white bread. I'll keep looking. Everything we ate was just OK. Probably won't come back unless they kick it up a notch and there is a good explanation of why this meal was an anomaly. If it is any comfort to those who wrote glowing reviews, Denny's, IHOP and Coco's don't have a draw for me either.

I am so glad we found this place through groupon. If you weren't looking for it, you would never know it was there. It's tucked away in an industrial part of Escondido (right over the border from San Marcos but still west of the 15). I love this place and my husband does too. We went in around 12pm and were quickly seated. They have REAL highchairs..not the crappy, cheap ones, but the kind someone would buy for their home. Nice. I ordered the breakfast burrito which is actually TWO large burritos. My husband ordered chicken friend steak and two eggs. We had enough food on our plate for a small country. No lie. The bill was 19 and change (two meals and OJ). Very reasonably priced and super enjoyable.

I like this place because it feels like 'home'. Its not fancy or pretentious, just feel good food. When we come here, our morning is not ABOUT this place. Its not a destination. Just a really good place to grab some breakfast before going to work or going on with our day. btw, hashbrowns are amazing!

Saw these guys on a Living Social offer so I decided to try them with the family. I have to say, it was a great find. The servers are very friendly and it feels like walking into a friends house. Seating can be a bit limited due to the crowds at times, but it's worth it. I started with a cup of coffee that eventually turned into three. They have really good coffee and I don't drink the stuff regularly. Very affordable too. I decided on the Eggs Benedict as that is my go to dish. The Hollandaise sauce was home-made and quite tasty. The eggs were cooked to my request, over easy. The ham was pan fried so it had that great almost caramelized flavor on the outside. I decided on a side of home fried potatoes which were good when dipped in the sauce. The other must try is their biscuits and gravy. The gravy was home made as well with chucks of sausage swimming in creamy goodness. The biscuits were flaky, and fresh which was also appreciated. Parking is a bit tight as the restaurant is located in a small industrial type area. The good news is that it's not too far from the Auto Park either. If you like breakfast, this is a must try location!

If you can spare 2,000 calories on breakfast, this is definitely worth a shot. I've only been there once, but I have been dreaming about the most delicious chicken fried steak (CFS), smothered in gravy ever since. There is something magical that happens in your mouth when you bite into the ridiculously generous cut of CFS that they put before you. I believe they have cracked the code on The Colonel's secret herbs and spices. If you're a fan of a KFC extra crispy chicken breading married to a mutant hamburger patty, then you can not pass up visiting Home Sweet Home Cafe. Other than that, the coffee is meh, but I'm not going to ding an establishment a star for coffee -- c'mon. Oh, unless it's like Starbucks or something, then I definitely would.

Order a shake. They're not on the menu but they will make one for you. My favorite quote of the day was when my wife said "It's too thick I can't suck it!" And the shake is FREE when you check in on yelp! Found this place because we were in town for a funeral & yelp recommended it as a place close by to the funeral SCORE, their breakfast was delicious & cheap. I wish this place was located closer to my home because I would definitely go every week.

We were headed to the San Diego wild animal safari park in Escondido and looking for a quick breakfast. This place was on the way and easy to find with GPS. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Was going to order a side of biscuits and gravy but the meal came with choice of toast or biscuits and gravy. Great crispy hash browns, gravy, large chicken fried steak, eggs to order, bottomless coffee, with tip all for less than 10 bucks.

Well I thought that I had found the perfect breakfast spot. The waitresses are the best and really work to make your dining experience the best , unfortunately the cook has ruined the rest, IMHO!!! I order the same thing everytime I go in and that is usually on Monday morning and I order the Cajun skillet. Well about seven visits ago the skillet started showing up with the sausage burned to a crisp!! I would pick out the really burned stuff and eat the rest and I thought that they would get the hint. About a month ago I started requesting that the sausage not get burnt and in four visits he cooked it correctly one time and that was last week when I heard the waitress tell him not to burn it, it came out just right. This morning when I ordered I asked that it not get burned and I watched the waitress write it on the ticket. The order came and sure enough it was obvious that the cook had burned the sausage. It looked intentional to me because of the degree that it was burned. It became obvious also at that point that the cook has absolutely no pride in his craft to let something like that out of his kitchen. It's hard for me to say but I'll not be going back.

Yummy food and great prices. Never would have known about this place without yelp! Pancakes are huge, iced tea is good. Husband got the home sweet home omelet and it was pretty tasty, I like the gravy. Gonna have to try the biscuits and gravy next time. This place isn't fancy but the people are friendly and the food is good. I would definitely return.

Just when you think your spoon couln't get any greasier, I found this place. Fabulous. Had the Chicken fried steak. Couldn't decide if I wanted home fries or hash browns, she brought me some of each so I could decide what kind of a breakfast potato guy I am. (Im a well done hash brown kind of guy) The bisquets and gravy seem to be very popular. I will try it next time. Its a once a month kind of place if calorie counts are important to you. Clean. Really nothing greasy about it. Pretty hearty (no spell check auto correct, Im not trying to spell healthy) and tons of savory goodness. Had to leave half. I was offered a box but for barely 8 bucks .... I can visit you again soon Home Sweet Home Cafe. Cant really figure out the strange addiction the place has to coffee mate vanilla creamer though. Big JUGS of it on ice prominatley displayed,

We love to support small businesses and we believe going out for breakfast is one of life's nicest little pleasures. I think that's because breakfast is such an intimate meal. It's the first meal of the day, when you're not quite all the way awake. To have a warm, friendly person serve you that meal (with credit to the cook in the back, as well) is a great way to start the day. When it's a leisurely Saturday, it's even better. My hubby and I went to Home Sweet Home for the first time this morning, a Saturday. He was a little put off by how crowded the parking lot was (the old crumudgen...) but I talked him into letting me do reconnaissance while he parked the car... When I walked in the door, there were quite a few people in the aisleway saying their goodbyes to the staff. Instead of being annoyed by the crowd, I took it as a good sign! When the crowd cleared, I spotted the owner, who I recognized from Yelp, and asked if I should seat myself. She was carrying a full armload of breakfast plates, but she gave me a big smile and pointed me to a cozy booth. I was struck by the fact that we were served by all the staff, who clearly worked as a team. I LOVE the big Charlie Brown coffee mugs they use. Super charming. We ordered the 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy with eggs, bacon and potatoes, plus the two pancakes with a sausage link and eggs so we could sample a little of all their basics. The eggs were really fresh and tasty. And I know fresh eggs from not fresh eggs. The home fries were perfect. Perfect. I liked the "al dente" peppers and onions mixed in as an option, too. My honey is a Bohunk (Boheimian) and loves his sausages and bacon. I had a taste of each before he devored them, and they each had a nice maple taste. The pancakes were good, but a little doughy, but if you like Swedish pancakes, you would like these. I'm not a pancake connoisseur, though, so don't go by me. I can't decide if I like the biscuits and gravy or not. So different from the midwest versions I'm used to. More flavorful. I REALLY like flavorful food. I think I will grow to crave this version of B&G for that reason. Others may not like it if they like bland/traditional. I can't wait to try the cinnamon buns, which a friend said are the best in San Diego. In all: The food was really good. The atmosphere warm and homey like the name. We will be back!

Dude, this place is insane. OFF THE CHAIN delicious. It was our first time here and hubby and I have been on the lookout for a new breakfast place in Esco. We found it! Chicken fried steak was MONEY. Biscuits and gravy was the stuff that dreams are made of. Gravy is just Christmas morning in your mouth. Pancakes were like little mattresses of Heaven. Service was just perfect. She took our order, (didn't judge the amount of food we ordered, ya know because hangovers) came back quickly with our food and left us alone to mack down on the bounty before us. EAT HERE!

Decided to come in today for a late breakfast around 11:45. We walked in and a few of the severs looked at us numerous times but never greeted us or said they would be right with us. We sat down after a couple minutes and got our drinks right away. We sat and waited about 15 minutes just to get our order taken, and we had to ask to order. We were sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant and we were walked by numerous times. We ordered the Western omelet which was basically a Denver omelet we also got the country skillet and a short stack of pancakes. All the food was good, I forgot a to ask for no gravy on my country skillet but it was good how it came. We were pretty much ignored throughout our entire dining experience no one asked if we wanted boxes or how anything was tasting. This is the second time we've been here and service was less then satisfactory which is a shame because the food is tasty.

First of all, I love a good breakfast. Anyplace that closes in early afternoon tells me that chances are, they serve a decent breakfast and don't need to worry about a dinner crowd to make ends meet. The restaurant itself is in the middle of an industrial complex. One could easily pass it by if they were not intentionally looking for it. That too may be a reason why they aren't open for dinner hours because I would assume that it is frequented by patrons who work in the area. So we walk in and the place is packed. The restaurant is rather small to begin with however we were able to find seating in the back. No sooner were we seated and we were asked our drink order. Ordered coffee and surprisingly the coffee was very good served in a LARGE mug. Another plus for me. I ended up going with the sausage patties, eggs, hash browns and toast. You would have thought Wilma Flintstone herself was bring out Fred's meal because the portions are huge and were cooked exactly to my liking. I got a glimpse of their chicken fried steak and that almost covered the entire plate. Again, you're not sacrificing quality with quantity here. The service even though they were very busy was excellent and friendly. I appreciate when you can banter with the food service people without the fear of something additional being added to the meal. Also, my coffee was repeatedly refilled without having to ask. The only problem was the parking. Since they share a lot with several other industrial businesses, parking is a little tight. Not sure if that is a normal occurrence or not but on this given day, it was a slight problem. HSHC as I so affectionately like to call it now since it and I are so close lives up to its ratings. The breakfasts here are all that and I definitely cannot wait to return.

Great breakfast place. Very homey and family oriented. This is not your dress up for brunch place. It is a small family business. The people working there are kind and helpful. Very good biscuits and gravy! And yes, the chicken fried steak is too! Lunch entrees are very good too!

Interesting experience here. Prompted by the great Yelp reviews my wife and I went here on a recent Saturday morning. First of all the place was jammed, had to park across the street at a welding supply company that thankfully was not open yet, but had signs that threatened to tow your car. Upon entering there was a wait for any table so we had to take a seat at the counter, surrounded on both sides by some rather rough looking and grumpy characters. Picture people that wear old jeans, stained and dirty long sleeve flannel shirts when it is 85+ outside and you get the idea. I was pretty surprised that the food was just ok. My biscuit was very dry and had no flavor, the sausage looked good but was bland. The coffee was terrible and had some sort of plastic taste to it, although I will say they kept it filled promptly. Throughout the meal we were constantly interrupted by the hostess greeting each patron rather loudly "waiting list only!!" as the place remained jam-packed our whole meal. Ok, I get it you are doing well but they almost overemphasize that there is a waiting list to show they are arrogant or something. It gets old quick. Anyway it's an ok breakfast but not nearly worth the wait or hassle.

Good old school good ole boy diner feel. Nothing fancy, good portions and good prices. No vegan dishes, no soy-lattee half calf extra foam BS either. Meat, potatoes, eggs, bacon, grease and coffee. American food. I yearned for a diner that reminded me of growing up and this is it. The smells, tables and attitude are all late 70's Mel's diner. Good stuff for a good price. Waitresses are all friendly. I will be back.

This place is awesome! Has a great "home" feeling, just as their name hints. The waitress that served us didn't really give off the vibe that she was a waitress, but a friend instead. Their service was pretty awesome. For breakfast I had their omelet and it was delicious! All these yelps were saying to get their biscuits and gravy, but I decided to be a rebel! Their orange juice was AWESOME! Anyways, awesome vibe and awesome food, definitely gotta come back on my next trip down to San Diego.
