I came to Cattlemen's for my parental-enforced celebratory birthday dinner even though I'm in my early 20's. I was expecting something like Outback or any other chain steak house, but was pleasantly surprised with the friendly service and seemingly realistic decor. I had a steak. There's really isn't much else to say. It was an average steak. Think of an average steak and that's what I had. However, our waitress was extremely friendly and saw to it that we were taken care of comfortably -- all while my parents saw to it to mention it was my birthday in order to embarrass me while the employees sang. The friendliness of the staff complemented the somewhat realistic Western decor quite nicely, and I had a great time pretending not to be embarrassed while they sang. Overall, the steak could've been cooked better (I honestly don't remember if it was good or not, meaning simply that it wasn't good enough to be memorable), but the dining experience is something to be had...but probably not on your birthday.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. What have I been doing?! I was introduced to this place somewhere last year and it was love at first sight. I love food, especially giant portions. To this date, I still haven't actually ordered steak here yet because every single time I get to the part of the menu with the full rack of ribs for $19.99, I can't look elsewhere. :O The hot sourdough bread is amazing with butter. :D When I order the ribs, it comes with "endless" salad (although I rarely get a second bowl because the ribs + a baked potato come shortly thereafter). We like to discuss which one of us would die the most terrible death if there were to be an earthquake while we're in the restaurant. (None of us want to get impaled by the buffalo head.) The service is consistently good, and the waitress we had here from the time we went for my birthday was especially awesome. She told us that the Sheriff could feed 2-3 people. (Cue our exchange of glances. It could probably feed one of me. Or 1.5 of me.) I've gotten pretty talented at scarfing down the entire rack of ribs every time I go. This feat apparently amazes most of the staff. In fact, our whole table managed to finish everything that time; she was pretty impressed, partly also because we cleared 6 bowls of salad and 10 baskets of bread before that. So she came back with those fake desserts and showed them to us. (For the record, they look disturbingly real.) Waitress: (introduces each of the desserts to us and touches all but one) Us: ...How about that one [that you didn't touch]? W: You mean this one? (touches it) Us: ...Never mind. We realized it was fake when the ice cream dropped on the ground, bounced, and they picked it up. Thoughts! -The ribs are amazing! (Monday = $2 rib night) -I love the sourdough bread. -Salad's good. :] -I got a hat for my birthday. :P -...Okay, never mind. Just. Everything's good. This is one of the places I miss most after no longer being in Davis. [UPDATE] I finally ordered something other than ribs! The New York steak is amazing! (As is everything else. I still feel like you really can't go wrong with anything at this restaurant. So much so that I came here twice for dinner in a span of 3 days! [It was graduation weekend.])

Lots of food. Definite BANG for your BUCK. Steaks = good quality. Deliciously prepared...well, except I wanted mine more rare than well-done. :-P ( I order medium rare, and 2/3 was perfect and the other 1/3 was dry.) Prices = moderate. You get a lot for what you spend though. Table begins with hot sourdough bread and butter and ice cold water. Steak entrees come with a side (potato, mashed taters or $1.99 extra for mac-n-cheese); endless salad. I tried their Pete's Special which was a 10-oz sirloin with a 'complimentary' beverage (I ordered a root beer, endless refils too). It came with the endless salad, and I had their baked potato. $16.99 only! My husband enjoyed his ribeye, but it was too much food for him (14 oz!) His friend had the 30+ oz porterhouse, and finished the whole thing, with only some mashed taters left. lol (it's a $31.99 dinner) Oh, we all split the Sampler appetizer (chicken tenders, zucchini strips and mozzarella...on a ginormous bed of shoestring onion rings). We were in over our heads in food. ($11.99) And for dessert, the four of us split two desserts--a giant slab of chocolate cake (cake was good, but icing was too sweet) and cheesecake. Decor = totally Old West. I'd prefer a bit more lighting so I could see my food better, but it's okay...the red juices still sparkled in the semi-darkness ;-) Service = friendly. Overall, I'd come back here if I really, really wanted a big dinner of steak, starch and sugary hell-and-heaven. I'll let the boys do return trips, on their own. :)

Its like falling in love all over again! I've been going to Cattlemen's with my family for many years. I recently went back and enjoyed my food once again. Service here is amazing, their staff is always very attentive and friendly. If you come in around 4ish (I think thats when they open for dinner) it won't be as difficult to get a table... So first off, plates here are large so come here hungry. Drinks come in pretty big cups as well. I love their iced tea. On occasion I would split the dinner for two portion with my mom. It comes with a choice of appitizer, 2 smaller portioned main courses and a choice of dessert. I always opt for the extra crab legs plate too!! Typically I order the Prime Rib Medium Well, but this time I had their Roast Tri Tip - Medium Well and that was a much smaller meat portion since I'm trying to cut back a bit on the red meat. Comes with bottleless salad and roast beans. And a choice of potatoes (baked or reds sliced) , fries or rice. I usually opt for the baked potato. For an extra charge you can get their white mac and cheese. Very tasty and creamy! Their bbq sauce is also delicious, however, the meats here are so tasty on their own I barely use it. The bread here is also warm and fresh ....too delicious for words! Enjoy!!

Visiting Texas Roadhouse for the first time yesterday provided the added bonus of reminding me about the fantastic $1 (now $2) Beef Rib Special on Monday nights during my undergraduate days. Though not nearly as good a deal anymore, they're huge, tender and slathered in yummy BBQ sauce. I've been there on at least a couple occasions for dinner as well and the steaks are solid for the price. Without the added awesomeness of signature touches though, Cattlemens stays comfortably at 3 stars.

Steak and prime rib heaven. I always order the Rustler's RibEye - it's topped with Cattlemen's famous onion strings. Instead of a regular potato, I had their baked sweet potato with pecan butter - excellent! I won't need a menu next time - Rustler's RibEye and Sweet Potato for me. They are always friendly and helpful and courteous if you point out any mistakes (rare to find one considering how busy they always are).

One phrase: Harris Ranch Meat Entree highlight: Pete's special. 10 oz. sirloin with a complimentary beverage for $17. Service and food is consistent and I have a good experience every time. If you're in the redding location ask for Black Butte beer to compliment your meal.

Got to work off this steak so I'll be brief -Food: Ordered 14oz Rib-eye with double-baked potato. Even though ordered "well-done", steak juicy and can't rave enough about the double-baked. A must! Wife ordered Steak and Shrimp special...loved it. Daughter had HUGE burger, mom Fried Shrimp. Overall, everyone was satisfied. The bread had to be THE best I've had in far too long to remember. -Service: Our waitress was kind, attentive but not hovering. Almost seemed to be there at the right time. Kudos for that since we were tucked away in a corner and I got a little worried we'd be overlooked. -Price: Sure, a little more than the rest but like anything, you get what you pay for right? Well, gotta run...literally! I think I ate 2 days worth of food in one sitting and unforgivable to not try and exercise some of this off. :)

Yep I'm a creature of habit, that's for sure. On a return visit we had the cowboy steak, bacon wrapped shrimp and patron margaritas. Everything was wonderful as always, the steak was better than I remember. Yep youda youda best! P.S. I won't ding you on the sandy gritty beans cause I don't really touch them anyways...

...Host staff ?... too many of em' / not personable / robotic... Most of the time I dine there at night,...and there are usually 5 hostesses there.. all of which do not know what they're doing... I could be the only person on the wait list... and no one else will be sitting there.. yet.. they will announce my name... "Chente?" as if no one is there.... Anyways.. when you go... ask to sit in christy's section... she's an impeccable waitress.... she is always watching what's goin' on and she knows what to do and say all the time... Get the 'cowboy' steak - bone in rib-eye with tumbleweed onions.. with the fixins...and save room for the carrot cake... Great place.. without the price and glitz of a fancy steakhouse...Cheers.!

Eating at Cattlemen's is one of those things that is required of a UCD student...like it's part of the UCD experience. I was somewhat disappointed when I came here for dinner with some of my friends. I assumed the meat and sauce was going to extraordinary but it fell short of my expectations. The portions were huge but it didn't make up for the rough meat and okay barbeque sauce.

Best damn steakhouse I've ever been to. It's juicepacked and when you first skewer your knife into it, the meat bleeds. It's that amazing. I'm impressed.

My roomie and I had dinner here since we're both very carnivorous human beings and we need our STEAK! Before we sat down for dinner, we grabbed drinks at the bar and sat in the lounge for a while. I ordered a Sunkist Mojito, which was a very creative cocktail. So, bit ups for good drinks! Instead of following the norm at a steak restaurant and ordering a steak by itself, I ordered the Motherlode Burger, which is basically a sirloin on a soft sourdough roll. I also ordered a sign of garlic fries! YUM! Although I didn't try it, my roomie recommends the Chocolate Outlaw cake. Oh, and if you decide to celebrate your birthday here, the wait staff comes out to sing a happy birthday song to you and gives you your very own straw hat as a souvenir!

Went here with a group of friends after our rafting trip. I had their steak and shrimp dish. It was delicious. The shrimp was a bit overcooked but the steak was good. The unlimited salad was great and I love their sourdough bread, especially when it is nice and warm. My bf had the prime rib steak and it was good. Nice and juicy. The loaded baked potato was okay. Could have used some bacon pieces..hehe. And I could also do without their chili beans. All in all, this place has some great steaks. Next time I'll leave room for the gigantic desserts =) The service here was great and the prices are pretty decent for the amount of food you get.

In my college cycling team days, this is where I went to load up on the protein I burned after a 90 mile race. I wish my metabolism were still so high. This place has a 2lb (yes that is correct) porterhouse, which is the union of the NY strip and Filet Mignon. If you think about it, it's roughly about 1lb per steak. I used to be able to eat this, with a salad, sourdough bread, baked beans and then have dessert. I have since lost my superhuman eating powers and since I don't live nearby anymore I might once in a blue moon see the Cattlemens in Roseville, during a trip to or from Tahoe. So this review is for the memories of the largest steak I ever consumed and Candace, one of the cutest hostesses I ever met.

Poor food quality: chicken dry, mashed potatoes like wallpaper paste. Manager did nothing to rectify. Personally witnessed two employees not wash hands when leaving the bathroom. Will not return.

No, no, no! The customer service here is terrible! I'm usually quite a patient person, and this place seriously tested my nerves. A group of friends and I came here for $1 rib night. The front hostess tells us that we should find an empty table in the bar area for the rib deal. We weren't novice rib eaters, so we knew the deal. However, the last time we came here, they had us sit in the upper dining area towards the back of the bar. With the Jets/Vikings game on, the bar was packed, and people did not look like they were getting up. As we headed to the upper seating area, the waitress very curtly informed us that the seating area was no longer open for ribs, and shut the saloon style doors as soon as we stepped away. Really?! We then proceeded to wait 45 minutes, as none of the tables opened up. When we were about to leave, a table finally opened up. Then we sat. And sat. And sat some more. No one brings us water, no one brings us utensils, no one bothers to even look at us. As we catch the waitress' attention twice, she simply keeps cruising along. What in the hell?! Finally, after waiting another fifteen minutes for the non-existent waitresses to show up, my friend, enraged, heads over to the bar and asks to be served. They tell her, "Christina" will be with her shortly. Who the hell is Christina? How are we supposed to know who this is? I understand that they were busy. But really. We were never served or even paid attention to. Finally, Christina decides to show up and take our order. Oh, and we finally got some water. So generous! The last time we were here, we were able to buy ribs for take-out for another friend. This time, they let us know that the price for a take-out rib would be $2. Okay. I understand that the ribs are already super cheap at $2, but last time, there wasn't a price discrepancy between sit-in and take-out. This was just another negative on top of a whole night of negatives. I blame it all on Brett Farve.

Har har I hope I'm reviewing the right Cattlemens, I see three listings... We were coming back from Tahoe, back to San Francisco and we stopped here to eat... I remember the steak was pretty good but the seafood was okay. The margaritas were great. My older brit cousin saw someone getting that whole clap/song thing for their birthday (it was all the young employees) and she was like "TINA... lets pretend it's my birthday! I want a bunch of hot guys to clap for me!" Lol.

I love their baby back pork ribs! A half order of that goes pretty far since it comes salad, bread, and a side. It is very spacious inside given he amount of people that frequent the place. There is ample parking and it is right off the freeway exit. I expected to see more students there since it is just ten minutes away from Davis. All the servers were very friendly. One thing hat I wished they did was offered moist towellettes before or after I was done with the ribs. My friends ordered the prime rib. Meat is meat but I'm sure they thought their cuts of meat were terrific. I will definitely be coming back here.

I really enjoyed their salad because of their great ranch dressing. I ordered the 9 ounce prime. Not House of Prime Rib status, but pretty good with a nice serving of au jus. Love their garlic fries. Just like the ballpark fries at AT&T. Also their twice baked potato is pretty good too.

First time to Cattlemens and definitely NOT the last. It was great!! I went on a Monday evening for their $16.99 9oz prime rib dinner. Yummy!! The mac n cheese is to die for and so is their corn on the cob. I passed on the dessert as the dinner was more than enough food. So if you're needing a place to grab a hearty meal, stop here! The staff is great and super friendly. They're helpful in every way when it comes down to recommendations. A shout out to Bobby, our waiter. Thanks for your service. You made our night a very good one! Check out my pics: what2eatz.blogspot.com/2…

Pete's Special. Go there, get this. It's the best value on the entire menu. $17.99 for a 10-oz steak and a baked potato (or your choice of side), plus salad, beans, and bread. And it comes with a soda (or beverage of your choice). Service is pretty good, atmosphere is hokey cowboy but I'll overlook that aspect for the crazy good steak.

The volume of food here is crazy so make sure you're hungry. I've gone a couple of times and my steak has been great. The bread is delicious and the salad is good too. I swear the tables are like little stables which is cute but I think they are uncomfortable.

Love this place! I've gone here with my family a few times, and another time for date night. Food is delicious. I always get rib-eyes medium rare and they come out perfect. If you come here, call in to rsvp cause it gets packed and the wait is long!

I am surprised I can write this now as I am a minute or 2 from putting my hand under my waistline Al Bundy style and falling into a deep food coma. My buddy talked me into getting the 2 lb Porterhouse. JEEZ. Of course I had it topped with Bleu Cheese and ate 2 helpings of salad, a few pieces of bread, and some bbq beans. My daughter is a vegetarian and she had plenty of choices to pick from. She left very full and happy. I can bring her back again and she would be more than ok with it. It's not a perfect place but pretty dang good. My steak was a little more medium than rare than I liked it and the seating was a little like sitting in an old wagon crossing the country. I am not fat but I am a big boy and I only had a few inches of clearance from me to the table. Service was very good and friendly. If you are driving along the 80 to or from the bay area, stop in. Get someone else to drive though because you might fall asleep behind the wheel after all of that food!!

With a place that has $1 ribs Mondays, why not give it a chance! Be warned, this place is crowded.. The crowd is feisty and the people are aggressive! -- but onto the food. Racks on racks on racks of ribs!!! Yeeeeee! 45 ribs for a party of 6 is ideal. In all honesty, these ribs are moderately disgusting. From the fat coating to the thick pieces of chewiness, eating these surely will lead to punishment of the toilet. But I mean... $1 per rib, I am willing to sacrifice my body for momentary enjoyment.

I have frequented Cattlemens for occasions like birthdays and graduation dinners and explored many of the menu options available. I have tried their sourdough bread, steaks, and seafood dinner for two. I have even tried their appetizer nachos. None of these dinners left me blown away. In fact, they stirred in me thoughts that I could have prepared the same dinner myself if I had put in the effort. However, my stomach has come away satisfied and stuffed every time I have come here for $1 rib night. I find the wet ribs too wet, and the dry ribs too greasy, so I order the dry ribs with sauce on the side, leaving me in control of the amount of sauce and grease on each rib. Be prepared for a blanket of forgetfulness that covers the waiters on Monday rib nights. Sure, there are a lot of table for them to wait on, but it is also not too difficult to bring an accurate number of ribs if they invested in the technology of pen and paper.

Great place for an evening steak. Staff friendly. Food quality is great. Helpful hint: for no waiting, eat at the bar. Same menu... The main eating area can get crowded on Fri/Sat nights, so plan accordingly.

I finally came back here again for their ribs special. As always, the ribs were delicious! They were all big and flavorful.. We ordered 10 but we were all stuffed after eating 2 each. We also ordered their beef kabob.. Medium rare.. And it was also really delicious. It's like pieces of steak smothered in teriyaki sauce.. Verrryyy good! Our waiter recommended the summer drink.. Which has like bits of blueberries and raspberries and a little vodka.. I finished that in like one sip. It was just really refreshing. I also notice that they have specials every day of the week now. I remembered.. On Wednesday it's $9.99 for 8oz steak, Kids under 10yrs get a free steak meal on Thursday, and Monday was $16.99 for sirloin steak meal. I forgot the others but I will definitely be back here next Wednesday for the steak!

$1 beef ribs on monday night football whoooo. I'm not a big sports fan or at all, but I come for the ribs! Came around 6pm and the bar area was pretty packed but found a table booth in the back score! I had 5 ribs and my roomie had 4. Plus we got the garlic fries on the side for $5.99. It wasn't worth that much portion size but the flavor was pretty bomb. The ribs were delish! But i must resist coming here every week, it is no good for the body! Haha. Will be back soon enough!

If you want good steak around the area, you should definitely hit up Cattlemen's. Great steak, good service, love the twice baked potatoes! Pls remember to order the prime ribs. It gets quite packed, especially dinner time and weekends. People love to go here with their families. The setting is of typical steak houses - dark, random accessories on the walls, and butchy place settings. The restaurant is off in a deserted area by itself, and it gets a little dark, so it might look closed but if there are cars, then it's open.

PROS: This place is nostalgic. I remember coming here when I lost my first baby tooth and eating their carrot salad. I came back a few months ago and ordered the cut I get at almost EVERY steakhouse--The medium ribeye. It's SOOOO good! Add a little bit of sauteed onions and blue cheese crumbles and it's awesome on a plate. I'm also a fan of bread and butter and this place has yummy bread. CONS: It's SOOOOOO far from San Jose that I'm only able to eat this when I go boarding, so summer I miss out. Open one closer.....please!!

I come back here from snowboarding and almost always order their rustler rib eye. It's good enough for me to make a trip out here just to get it. The portions are large. Two people can easily share and be full.

Went for our holiday party. The private room was rented two months prior to the event. We showed up and were notified at that time that there was a larger party who got the room in place of us. No one notified us of this change so that we could make other arrangements. Very unprofessional. There was so much noise that we could not speak to each other without yelling. Our waitress did not check on how our meals were after they were delivered. The person paying for the meal got skipped when the orders were taken. I placed my order for dessert first and did not get mine, but everyone else received theirs. Very disappointing experience. Large parties are definitely not their forte.

Yeeeeehaaaaa! What do you feed a bunch of starvin' cowboys? Steak... beans... potatoes... that'll do just fine, pardner! In our case, our party consisted of ten to fifteen starving softball players, fresh after toiling through a two-day tournament in Elk Grove in September (temperatures often reach the high 90's or low 100's that time of year). Roughly, half way home to San Francisco, this is the perfect pit stop on a Sunday night. We arrive here just before their 4 pm opening time and often beat the dinner rush and line. We'll have a few drinks in their bar and watch some of the late NFL game action on their TVs. When we're finally seated, it's time for business! Depending on my appetite, I usually order the T-bone (24 oz.- $25.99) or porterhouse (32 oz. of Harris Ranch prime beef, if in a splurging mood - $31.99), medium rare please. For an extra $0.99, I'll top it with sauteed mushrooms (love my shrrroooooms!). The meal comes with an all-u-can eat salad, ranch style beans (served like cowboys do in a handled cauldron - Blazing Saddles moment), and your choice of mashed or baked potato or rice. Trust me when I tell you that you won't even think about dessert after finishing this meal! The atmosphere is very homey with mostly local families from the area. There's also often a party (anniversary, birthday, etc.) going on when we're here as it is a nice occasion destination. If we were to order a steak in the finer steak houses in the Bay Area, we'd expect to pay 1.5 to 2 times the amount of money per person for a meal, at least. Wish there was one closer to the City.. or maybe not as I'd be too wide to walk out the door! Footnote: As review #365, this is a reminder that this should be at least an annual trip!

We go to this Cattlemens all the time on Wednesdays for their Sirloin special. It is just the right size to fill a person without killing you waddling out of the restaurant. The food is very good, fresh and has a good taste. We occasionally order appetizers, and we've found they are all good with our favorite being the Sample Platter (most expensive). We've found the wait staff to be reasonably good. Sometimes they are not as attentive, and one time we had one girl who was rude. I have two rules about tip leaving: 1) If I sit with my water glass not filled for five minutes, your tip drops to 10% and 2) If you, the waitress/waiter are rude, your tip drops to 5%; and 3) If both and the food is marginal, you get $1.00. I have had to drop my tip to 10% a few times because they are not always there to fill my water. (I usually drink two or three glasses during a meal.) But the food has always been good. Nearly all the time we go, we get our meal quickly. Once recently we sat for 45 minutes after ordering which was too long. By then, you just want to go down to the fast food place down the street and forget it. But when we got it, the food was good. They do not take reservations, so if you go on a Friday night, plan to wait for 30+ minutes. Wednesdays are busy too. We will keep going back in spite of the few issues that bother us. We really like the food, and we feel it is a good price for a good evening. I recently went for my birthday, and later I was sent a coupon for $10 off on a meal if I spend $40. I will be using this soon as it expires in a week.

Bang for your Buck! I've been going here since I was old enough to eat my order of Beef Back Ribs. I'm more inclined to order steak nowadays, but there was a period in my childhood where watching the waiters bring my order on a large metal platter filled me with glee and I'd start hopping on the hard but finely finished wooden benches. Ah, the good times. This location is right off the busy 80 and was usually packed with people heading toward Tahoe/heading out from Tahoe so mostly tourists and locals. Now mind you my parents were willing to drive the 30 minutes from the country outback just to take us here for a monthly meat worshipping: the ritual would still remain with me. For and price of maybe around $20 (if you order the BBQ Beef Back Ribs) the entree comes with large four ribs, a side of baked potato, and all the salad and sourdough bread you can muster your chops to engulf. If you order anything else (such as their to-die-for button mushrooms sauteed made lovely in a little red wine and lots of butter or their twice baked potatoes) these are extra, so bear that in mind. I've also had their Rib-Eye as well as the Porterhouse. The meanest SOB the West of Sacramento that covered the entire plate. Desserts here are pretty large too, not to mention if it is your birthday, they bring you a little scoop of ice cream topped off with a candle and the old fashioned way of singing to you. Hopefully, you'll have a bunch of the cuter waiters meshed in. The staff are usually college kids going to Sac State/UCD and are totally courteous and cute in their pseudo farm hand attire. I've never had the experience of a rude person here the past twenty years I've been going. For the family dinner in a laid back environment resembling an old barn replete with the bison head on the wall, I'd recommend a stop here any day to fill up your insides with a good juicy slab of meat.

For a 'certified trainer,' Pam has very little knowledge about customer service. That, or I just rubbed her the wrong way. Don't order anything medium rare unless you want a gooey, purple mess that's still mooing on your plate. I have NEVER sent anything back to a restaurant kitchen in my life until I was at Cattlemen's with my sister the other night. Having worked as a manager at a steakhouse though, I couldn't help it. I know what the different degrees of cooked meat are supposed to taste, feel, and look like, and this was not it. I was polite about it, and while I wasn't timing it, I'd guess that about 25 minutes passed before the steak was brought back out to me. Only it had shrunken to less than half the size it had been, was black on the outside, and extremely well done inside. There were some fries thrown on the plate, as well as a small saucer of mushrooms. I have no idea why, and there was no explanation given. Maybe it was Trainer Pam's way of apologizing...or maybe it was meant to be rude. I have no idea, but I won't be coming back unless it's to drink in their bar, since that's the best kind of payback I can think of :-) Oh yeah, and my kids never got their apple juice. And when I asked for more bread she brought me two huge loaves! I was excited until I realized they were really burnt :-/ I was so confused, and starting to be paranoid that maybe I knew this person from school or something and offended her before, it was just that awkward. I uploaded a picture of the 'fixed' steak plate.

Went here with a group of 18, all hungry from a day white-water rafting. Cattlemens did not disappoint. Huge portions from salad and bread filled us up nicely before an even bigger meal of meat, beans, fries, and mashed potatoes. The Pete's Special is a great deal - 10oz sirloin steak with a beverage for $16.99 The half rack of pork ribs was also quality. The waitress did a pretty good job, considering there were 18 of us. A few drinks were forgotten, but the food left me satisfied and in a coma on the way back to the South Bay.

I beginning to think this place is hit or miss with their ribs. We always come here on Monday nights for their $1 ribs. I've been here twice and my first experience was really good. The ribs were nice and juicy and fell off the bone easily. The second time, not so much. The ribs were tough and chewy. I'm not so sure about this place. I would come back either way because it's fun to hang out with friends without having to spend a lot of money.

I would normally never ever dine at a place like this, but once in awhile curiosity kills the cat and we just couldn't resist. Ordered conservatively and got the 6 oz fillet Mignon cooked medium. It came out pretty rare and we suspected they had gotten the cooking temps mixed up on our order. Mainly because the man in our group who orders steaks 'as little cooked as legally allowable' steak was done medium and mine was redder then I like it. The beans are a joke. I suspect that is why they bring soooo little out. Nobody ate more then a scoop. Salad was decent. I enjoyed the family style with individual dressings. The sage butter sauce was tooooooo rich. The peppercorn sauce had a hint of spice which is nice. My pescatarian husband actually found something to eat. Can't go wrong with deep fried shrimp and french fries. It was calorific! Can't go wrong with a baked potato. Pay a little extra and get a twice baked. Didn't appreciate the taxidermy but I did like the fake roof. (Flat roof on the outside - pitched roof on the inside. .... ) Made it more lodge-y and makes you want to eat more meat I guess. Ya know, stocking up for winter or something. . . .

Nice place. Daughter got free ice cream and a hat on her B-day. Food was good. Make sure you call ahead or you will wait a long time on the weekends. Wait staff was nice and quick. They did forget to put the mushrooms on my wife's steak though.

Nothing better than going to Cattlemen's after a busy workday to find that it's $1 RIB NIGHT! You wouldn't believe our surprise when we found out or old $2 rib night has now become $1/rib! I Don't know how long it'll last, but get them while you still can, and enjoy watching Monday night football (or baseball) with your fellow fans! It's time to let your inner carnivore out! (And if you're feeling extra guilty after those ribs, just have a salad when you get home. They charge about $5+/person for their unlimited salad/bread if you decide you want that in addition to your ribs. This adds up depending on how many people are with your party, and defeats the whole purpose of eating your fill of ribs at this awesome price.)

Excellent atmosphere, excellent steaks, great service and all around happy and filling experience eating there. My favorite dish is the Chomper, with two sides, unlimited salad and bread. Great Staff !!!!!

Went here for the first time a few nights ago. Why hasn't anyone told me this place was so good? We went on tues. night and there are week night specials this night was $5 long islands. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer. The lime butter is the best. I ordered the 20oz rib eye with the baked macaroni and cheese. the steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. I'm gonna have to pass on the mac& cheese next time. Although the food was great the thing that would make me come back is the best waitress I have ever experienced while dining out. I wish I remembered her name but she get a star all by herself.

Go to Cattlemen's for the ribs! They are soo tasty and the meat falls off the bones! The bbq sauce makes the ribs delicious! Yum! I ate these at the bar section. Service wasn't attentive though. Our waiter only came to our table four times: 1) to order; 2) drop off food; 3) refill waters; 4) bill. We waited around for a while until our server came. I also went to Cattlemen's for a dinner party. The party had the typical salad and bread. We ordered several appetizers such as the spinach dip, buffalo wings, and potato skins. The portions were huge, but the quality of the food was mediocre. For the main entree, I had the prime rib with a baked potato. Eh, the steak was cooked rare. There wasn't anything special to the meat. I ate a cheesecake for dessert. It was so rich and dense. I felt my arteries clogging.

I love this place for watching football games. I also love their beef ribs. Best ribs I have ever had. I love their $1 rib night. I also became part of the 20 bone club which is if you eat 20 $1 ribs you get a shirt. I love this place and what a dive. They have a barside which is for the $1 rib night and they have a finer dining side, but it isn't too fancy, I consider it casual at best. You can still wear shorts and get a great meal. I love this place and love the ribs. Best ribs in town and probably in all of Yolo County and Sacramento area.

Our family has been coming here since back in the day and I mean way before Outback and Tahoe Joes. It has definitely taken on that commercial feel with the menus and items being offered( "would you like blue cheese for an additional 1.99?") but none the less the food is good, the prices fair, the portions decent and overall it doesn't feel like anything has changed in the past 20 years. The Dixon restaurant makes for a great pit stop between SF and Tahoe. The bread and salad will fill you up so don't get the appetizers...otherwise you will regret it for being overly gluttonous full. Bon Appetite...or something like that

Cattlemen is just one of the kind steakhouse you are going to remember on top of that because I went to UCD, yes GO Aggies! :P Just went visit this weekend, and man, steaks are good and bring back LOTS of memory. Tip- they always have long lines and depend on your party size the wait can be more than 1 hour. So if you don't mind, you can head right to the bar and just order- YES, you can order regular menu not just drinks! Got the Rustler's Special, endless Salad and Bread, with twice back potato!

Drove by cattlemens countless of times, on my way home after a crazy weekend of snowboarding. Finally got to try this place after a day of river rafting and boy was it worth it. I had the cattlemen NY steak and bacon wrapped shrimp, w/ a whole potato topped with sour cream, bacon and chives,. Only for $32! Scoree! My order can def feed two, but I was being greedy. Since the waitress recommended this as a SPECIAL DISH. The steak tasted extra tastier because of the special peppercorn sauce it came with. Servers were def friendly, but I can tell they were short staffed and need more workers on the floor. It was hard to find anyone to refill our waters and bring me my condiments. I tried flagging down waiters/waitresses, but I guess they were to busy to see my hands waving?! The interior design of the restaurant is cabin unique, wait until you walk into the restroom! SHOCKER! Overall the steak was good, my bacon shrimp was good and the sauce was good! WILL BE BACK FOR THE FOOD!

Either people on Yelp have very bad taste or Outback and Applebee's have taken over the world and brainwashed us into thinking we're eating decent food. Both are most likely true. If you think you're getting a gourmet cut of meat at a real, good quality steakhouse here, think again. It's nothing more than one more branch of a money-making and probably poor-paying restaurant chain. The food was simply not good, the service was rushed, the servers were just trying to make their tip for the night, and the building was packed not only with people, but with far too many tables and chairs than what the fire code probably permits. Cattlemens is simply not a restaurant; it's a business. And now, the food. I got baby back ribs, full rack, garlic fries and salad on the side. The ribs were awful. Dry, tough, hard to get off the bone. Disappointed. The garlic fries weren't bad, but you don't go to a steakhouse for garlic fries. I go to AT&T Park for garlic fries. There's nothing like a good salad, and that was nothing like a good salad. Totally bland greens and grotesque dressings. Steakhouses are for steaks, but I still expect to find a decent salad at one in this day and age. Thinking about getting a steak salad at this place? The meat is bad and the salad is bad, so I think it's safe to keep looking at other restaurants instead. The other folks in my party of eight agreed that the ribs were as bad as I thought, and that the various cuts of steak that we ordered weren't much better, suffering the same symptoms as the ribs. Our waiter, like pretty much every employee there at the time, was not professional and undeserving of anything more than a 10% tip. He gave us one basket of bread and one teeny tiny cup of butter for eight people, and in our attempts to call him and any other employees to our table for more resulted in us being very clearly ignored. Not good. Also, for those who enjoy hanging out in loud, crowded, claustrophobic, heartburn-inducing environments, be my guest. It was not my cup of tea. Observing the workings of the restaurant reminded me of the movie The Slammin' Salmon, where the big tough restaurant owner needs money so he pushes all the poor servers to sell as much as they can to as many people as they can, often ignoring quality or common sense to meet the needs of the owner and not the needs of the customer. Cattlemens couldn't possibly be more "Slammin Salmon." All in all, after a hard week's work, on our way back home, looking for a good meal to fill our hungry and tired bellies, this was pretty disappointing. Two thumbs down.

I've been coming to Cattlemens since I was a swimmer in my mothers womb. I used to be in love with their food but as with most resturants they too have gone down hill. I usually order Steak and Lobster, and I recieved a small 6oz steak !! Come on and give me a break! Yall know I'm a big fella! I parked my horse in your coral after traveling through the desert and this is what I get~!! Gimme a break. Wish yall would get it together. Offer bigger sizes 8,10,12 oz steaks!

My friend recommended this place as a restaurant famous for its ribs. We came in a huge group of 15 people. They have a huge open seating area as well as a bar area. We hung out at the bar waiting for our table, and got to sample their new Rambouer chardonney, which was nice. The $2 ribs are definitely worth it. Each one is pretty big, very juicy, and two of them already filled me up. Along with that, my friend and I also shared their "star-ed" appetizer that was a combo of the fried mozzarella cheese sticks, fried zuccini, fried chicken, and fried onion rings. However, this plate was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. The onion rings were WAY overfried when they first brought it out. They looked like ashes o_O The other stuff just all looked over-cooked and not fresh, so we had them take it back. Fortunately, our waitress was super nice and brought us another plate, which was better...but still not that appetizing. We only ate a bit of it and then moved on to the ribs. The portions are all pretty big, so sharing family style is definitely good. Honestly I'm not a huge fan of bbq and ribs, but once in a while, it's pretty good. I would just come here for the ribs and ribs alone next time. They said Monday is $1 ribs night, which is always a good deal.

This place simply rocks. It is a little on the expensive side, but the food here is so worth it! I came here with a group of 4 and we ordered the dinner for 2 (which can feed 4) special that included prime rib and a rib-eye steak. For an appetizer we munched on the Artichoke dip, which is my favorite out of all the appetizers. The rib-eye steak is made very well, but the prime rib was incredible. The taste of the meat and tenderness was perfect, along with the amount of rareness and seasoning! The portions are very large and I have already gone back a couple times! For dessert, try the Outlaw Chocolate Cake. It is for all chocolate lovers, trust me.

I had dinner with my parents, aunt and her boyfriend. It was Monday night so there was the prime rib special. 9 ounce prime rib dinner for $16.99. Everyone else got that. I got a full rack of baby back rib.

We came to cattlemens for an after graduation dinner and it was fantastic. My dad really urged us to get the t-bone steak and I'm really glad he did. As we waited for our food we were served warm sourdough bread and a side salad. The bread was delicious and we kept asking for more which they were happy to do. I ordered my steak medium-rare with a baked potato. As other yelpers have pointed out they cook the meat just a little bit longer than asked so keep that in mind. But my steak came out medium so I was happy especially after tasting the first bite. I'm notorious for smothering my steak in steak sauce but not once did i have to reach for it. The baked potato was eh, but was saved from the bacon bits and cheese. For desert, my brother and I split the chocolate outlaw cake which was a great ending to our dinner. Waiters and waitresses were very friendly and were very keen on refilling drinks.

Pros: The service was excellent and she was extremely helpful and knew all her information. The food was great and I ordered the Rib Eye Steak, which was delicious and full of flavor. My girlfriend ordered the Beef Back Ribs and it was tasty as well. Portions were great and we ended up taking some food back home. Cons: Although the steak was delicious, I had better ones somewhere else. Also my steak had more fat on it then I expected so I lost a lot of meat and couldn't eat it. If you like to eat the fat too, then by all means you will definitely love their steak here. Other than that, this place is great and food is great. I would definitely come here again!

This is the standard that I hold all other steakhouses to. and guess what? I'm always coming back here! First things first; come hungry. With unlimited bread, salad and beans to contend with, besides your steak and side, plus a few drinks ... you might wanna consider wearing your stretchy-pants to this place!! The atmosphere is where they could use some help. It's not a classy joint like Buckhorn ( yelp.com/biz/buckhorn-st… ); Cattlemens is much more casual. Like a really, really rural Outback Steakhouse. Sure, it can be pricey, but when you consider the sheer amount of food you are getting, it's pretty reasonable; not to mention that the steak will be among the best that you can buy. Steak sauce? You don't even need it. This steak is so melt-in-your-mouth delicious, you'll want to savor its flavor without any help from sauces. Oh, almost forgot! Attention Hungry UCD Students!! When your parents come to visit, have them take you here!! It's probably only ten minutes away from Davis. This is good eating, *especially* when your parents pick up the check!!

We've eaten here two times and will likely come back. The price you pay is worth it for the amount of food you get and it's really not that pricey. The warm sourdough bread (endless) is extemely good. I ordered chicken the second time around and will probably stick with the beef the next time we come. It's not that it wasn't good, but it wasn't as good as the steak. They have a pretty good dessert selection, which they bring out the fake versions so you can see what you should expect to come out. There's a sports bar on one side and the restaurant on the other. We've always gone on a weeday because we're fairly certain it's packed on the weekends. We got the same server both times we went and he was consistently good. It's good for kids because it's a pretty casual set up and although the noise level is not too loud, it's loud enough to drown out a loud kid.

From outside you feel like your going into a farm :) once you step in be ready to be sitted by a hot waitress ... The service is awesome and friendly. The food is great great great. The only thing is stopping the five star is the price im poor and can't afford to come here everyday:( Parking is endless So if money is no issue come and try what they have to offer..

I used to love Cattlemen's more than anything. But they're quality hasn't been too impressive lately and they have a tendency to overcook my meat a little. I ordered the dinner for two which includes bread, salad, shared appetizer, two entrees, and two desserts. I ordered the 14 oz rib eye with mashed potatoes. Beware: They serve a lot of food! I know that it doesn't sound horrible, but I went with 11 members of my family and my fiance and I had the dinner for two special and before we even got our entree, we were getting full off the appetizer, bread, and salad. Its great if you have a lot of people, but I don't eat that much food and I'm not a skinny girl at all. My fiance has a huge appetite and he couldn't barely touch his dessert lol. Overall, they are always satisfying and delicious! Just be careful because you get what you pay for and then some hahaha

This place has become kind of a fall back "safe" place when my husband and I want to go out to eat. Although the food is nothing spectacular, it is pretty good. He gets a steak, and I get the coconut shrimp (they are HUGE). The salads here are really good. The only thing we don't really like is the beans that come in a huge bowl with the meals-kind of weird and out of place. The service here is usually pretty good for us. There's always the occasional bad service, but that happens anywhere you go. For the most part, it is good. The atmosphere is good for family dining-loud. There is never a shortage of screaming kids in this place. Not really good if you're looking for a romantic dinner. All in all, I would recommend it. If you're looking for a good steak or seafood, it is a pretty safe bet. Prices are reasonable as well.

So we were supposed to come here for my MIL(mother in law)birthday but she started feeling sick and we were unable to come but decided to order take out. Keep in mind there were 10 of us ordering so I was a bit nervous, I hate doing BIG to go orders, especially when they're individual orders and not catered items. With my fingers crossed and the repeating of our order twice I sent the men w/ the money to pick up. Lindsey did an AWESOME job w/ our order. All the steaks were cooked right, every item was there, nothing missing! I would have loved to have a sit down dinner but this was the next best thing. $300 later it was all worth it.

I grew up in Dixon and this placed used to be great, but it has fallen off significantly. We went there for dinner a while back and the service was poor (our waitress got our orders wrong and did not pay much attention to us). The salad was slightly frozen, the potatoes were average, and the steak was not nearly as good as it used to be. It's sad, but we won't be going back anymore.

This place is AMAZING! A little expensive, yes, but SO, SO worth it! +Dakota Chicken w/ mashed potatoes +Full rack of Baby Back Ribs w/ mashed potatoes +Pete's Special steak w/ garlic fries +2 Corral Cooler's; 2 waters; 1 Coke +NY Cheesecake =80.96 (not including tips) The portions are HUGE. The only order that was finished from our party was the full rack of ribs that was split between two people. The food is absolutely DELICIOUS. So much flavor! Nothing was lacking. Endless salads & bread with every entree. You get to choose your own dressing, so for our party, we got one big bowl of salad and 4 individual servings of salad dressing. I've never been a fan of red meat, but this place can change my mind. Wait staff are really nice and helpful. They're also the ones who handle your bill. The staff at the front only seat you/page you when a table is available for you and your party. There's a lot of interesting decorations. Our table was directly under the hugeee buffalo head, so it was a bit interesting. I took my time looking at all the decorations around us. I regret not bringing my camera. The location's not bad, either. I drive past Cattlemen's every week I go to/from Davis. I definitely want to come here again and I've already recommended Cattlemen's to a bunch of my friends. But again, it's a little pricey, so I might wait until I want to treat myself to something real good.

One of the better steakhouses in the area. I've never ordered something that I didn't like. I always enjoy the bluecheese bread for an app. Their homemade bluecheese is nice balance of salt and a little bit of sweet. It is great on this bread, but also try it with the salad. I almost always get the sheriff steak (cooked medium). It's a huge 2 pound sirloin ($25) that is adged and well-seasoned. I think it comes with vegetables and a potato, but I usually spend the entire time eating the steak. The steak sauce is also very tasty (kind of a combination of A1 and a barbeque sauce). I love the ice tea here and the drinks from the bar are always top notch. You really have to go early to eat if you like to eat in a quiet environment, because at around 7pm it gets really crowded and extremely noisy.

Two quick tips for you mobile app users: If you go, make sure to emphasize how you want your steak done - they err on the side of well done. Second, order everything on the side - salad dressing, sour cream, etc. Now, the reason I know you're looking at this review on a phone is because you've seen Cattlemen's calling your name during that drive up to Tahoe. You can't help but notice that big glowing sign coming upon the right as speed towards the snow. Then you see the sign once again when you come home tired and ready for some serious protein. We saw, we succumbed and I kind of wish we hadn't. This is a super friendly restaurant with *huge* portions. The people sitting around you look like they regularly enjoy the massive dinner portions, and throw in an appetizer or two before dessert. Seriously, some folks couldn't fit in the booth. Cue Jamie Oliver. In general, the food was OK. Each meal is served with a ho-hum salad and warm bread. We may have been the only customers who actually ate the salad... The meat is rumored to be fabulous. What I will say is the ribs are great. Get the ribs! Unfortch, my ribeye was way over cooked. Ugh, who eats meat this well cooked?! If you want medium rare, I suggest you say BLOODY. I didn't bother sending it back because the ribs my husband ordered were great, and a serving was large enough for both of us. So, let me reiterate. People who eat here often will not be able to fit into the booth. To save yourself the workout, order everything on the side. The meat is supposed to be really good, and the ribs indicate that the rumors are true. Make sure to emphasize how you want your meat done so you can enjoy the delicious meat. Finally, don't eat it all, or you will end up dead at 35.

The main reason I went here was for the $1 ribs with a few of my friends! The only thing that turned me off is that you have to sit in a certain area to get this deal, and that also means hunting down your own table. It was a little awkward standing around to try and get a spot, but it was worth it in the end! We had nice warm bread, and these huge ribs and I believe we had about 3-4 per person? I probably could have been fine with 2, but I mean, It was only a dollar... I haven't tried anything else on the menu, but the $1 ribs are a steal! Especially since I haven't gone out for ribs in YEARS! And our waitress was really nice, and had a smile the whole night. Great service. I loved it :D Although one of my ribs was a bit chewy... but it was also only $1 so I can't complain!

This is a solid chain restaurant. The rib-eyes are rich juicy and tender. The baked potatoes are, well baked potatoes! Simple but dressed right they are the perfect compliment to a steak. The salad is ok...iceberg. Big beers, friendly service, all wood interior complete with neon signs, stuffed animal heads mounted on the walls and a fireplace. Make reservations, bring the kids, and enjoy a steak in a casual setting.

It's decorated like Frontierland, but don't hold that against it. I came here for a Birthday party and we had great service for a table of 8. Everyone ordered meat of some kind. The ribs looked particularly juicy. The table had garlic fries to start and they were quite yummy. I had my eyes set on desert so I had clam chowder and a side of button mushrooms. A must have if you like mushrooms! Unfortunately I should have had a pile of meat and skipped the desert. The brownie sundae looks the best but was less than satisfying. The brownie was dry and the ice cream was nothing special. Friends at the table fared better w/ the carrot cake and cheese cake which looked amazing and by their accounts was good. As a side note, for my friends birthday, all he got was a dish of ice cream. When your mains cost $15+ you would think they could kick down a $5 desert. Oh Well.

I love steaks. I'm the definition of carnivore. I live to eat good steaks. With that being said..., let's move on. I really, really love steaks in Cattlemen's Restaurant. I routinely dine here whenever I visit my friends in Davis. First thing I do when I get to Davis is eating Twice-cooked Pork at Hometown Chinese Restaurant. Then, I hang out with my friends til we hit up Cattlemen's for dinner. This is sort of a tradition now. Whenever I come visit, it's expected that we eat at these two places. I believe I have eaten over 100 times in just Dixon location. I also dined at Cattlemen's in Livermore, Roseville, and Petaluma. For 9 years, I have faithfully dined at Cattlemen's and will never stop. I can say with a confidence that I have thoroughly tasted every steak on their menu and came to a conclusion that their Rustler Ribeye Steak with Twice Baked Potato is the best/winning combination. This dish never once failed me in satisfying my steak cravings. Next time you visit around Sacramento area, try this place's Rustler Ribeye. It will not disappoint. *Their website is BESTSTEAKinthewest.com and they aren't kidding. They really serve the best non-expensive steak in the west. For the price to quality ratio, this steakhouse has no match. NONE. p.s.: Out of their many locations, I found their Livermore branch has the best quality steak consistently.

The food here is plentiful. I had a 2 lb. porterhouse steak medium rare, and it came with string onions, a community salad, bread, beans, and mashed potatoes (with au jus sauce since they didn't have gravy). The steak was huge and I was very tired afterwards from the "itis." Service was responsive and friendly. It seemed like we had multiple waiters at times because they were so acommadating in refilling our drinks or removing plates we no longer needed. The decor is nice; reminds of an old Western movie. I wish I lived nearby one so I could partake in the special deals on various days. They have a huge parking lot, but it was still packed. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated on Saturday night for a table for 2.

like many reviewers have mentioned, you will probably go here to get the best bang for your buck, but if you want a good tasty aged steak (like one from Ruth Chris) this is probably NOT your place. Ordered the bone-in rib eye and baby back ribs. Ribs were good, not great but better than the rib eye which was not very flavorful and needed salt and pepper. Also ordered the "beefy chicken wings" which were standard, nothing amazing about the wings, and the chucks of steak in this app was way too overcooked and salty. The only shining star of the night was the GARLIC FRIES. these were amazing, and yes, very garlic-ey. very casual atmosphere with lots of families, birthday's and groups, wait was 25-30 mins for sat night at 6:00 pm...so prepare to wait on weekends. Would i recommend it? maybe...for a casual easy cheaper steak dinner, but probably not go there again, unless i really want the garlic fries!

I've been going to this restaurant ever since I was a young kid. I'm grown now. I must say that I appreciate the food sooo much more now. I love the food! The service I've received has been GRAND! they were prompt personable but not too intrusive. Being a California girl I love the old west decor. I didn't give it 5stars simply because of the other patrons. They were a bit annoying it felt like I was in Wal-Mart. I must say though, they know where the good food it is. Lobster was cooked perfect, not chewy. My medium steak was cooked perfectly and was like buttery pillows. My salad was cold and crisp all my food was hot! My drinks actually tasted like alcohol. Once i started eating that steak I forgot all about the less than civilized patrons. I will always go back there.

AWESOME RESTAURANT Love eating there, but they do have a take out menu, ask for David, kitchen manager, Recommend the Ribs, Bread and Salad. Great for SUPERBOWL, or any other PARTY, Since they cut all their own meat in house, you cannot find more ,meat on ribs, and they FALL OFF! VERY REASONABLE for the quality, and the ribs, you can't find a better deal with that much meat on the ribs.

If you can get over the large dead animals plastered to the walls, then you'll enjoy their food. The meat is pretty tender and are large portions. I always make sure to get the carmelized onions on top and well as their mash potatoes....delicious! I dont know if they still have this but for a once poor college student, $1 rib night makes life easier. The ribs were huge and I didn't know many guys that could eat more than 5 or 6. The service is ok, not great and the waits usually not too long, but the earlier you go the better, and be ready to eat!

I had one of the steaks and it was pretty good. I liked how it came with some really thin onion rings, or whatever they're called. Hella greasy, but it's soo good. One thing I didn't like was that the salad didn't come individually. They combined everyone's salad into one small bowl. Even though it was unlimited salad, I'd rather have my own bowl. I would have given 5 stars, but one of the male waiters was not friendly.

I reckon you've seen this saloon driving towards Sacramento on the I-80 pretty often, no? Cattlemens' biggest attractions cater to the meat eaters in everyone and they are: huge steaks (you can opt for petite cuts, princesses), and ribs. But they do offer some dishes with chicken, pasta, and some seafood. After your first step through the doors, you'll find yourself in a barn. This barn is decorated with animal trophies, lamps made with antlers, and anything else that scream "Welcome to Cowboyville." The wait for a table for 7 took no longer than 5 minutes. Our server was very nice and attentive. Though she did seem to neglect refilling out drinks at times. I had myself their porterhouse steak that clocks in at two pounds and a side of garlic fries. My company had ribs and other steaks. First thing you'll be treated to are warm, freshly baked loaves of sourdough bread with a side of butter. It's really good -- just don't go overboard and fill up on this. Salads came along a few short minutes later and is exactly what you'd expect. I'd like to mention that their italian dressing here is very deep and "smoky" even. My steak was grilled to perfection and carried a wonderful beefy flavor. The garlic fries had some crisp to them and were a garlic explosion in my mouth. I tried some of my friend's mashed potatoes and regretted opting for garlic fries instead. The mashed potatoes were very, very light, fluffy, and super rich. It's no wonder they didn't come with gravy. Just didn't need it. Watching my friend eat his slab of beef ribs was a bit of a show in itself. They weren't exactly fall-off-the-bone goodness like the baby back ribs here. The beef ribs seemed to be a bit tough and mentally tiring for my friend. The more "premium" dishes that most people will be getting here will run for about 18-28 dollars. Most of the dishes that fall into that range should keep you happy. But if you really want to drop 35 dollars or so on a 2 pound steak and come out feeling like you killed a bear, then please do. If you're in the mood for some intense meat action, Cattlemens will be waiting off the I-80 with open arms -- super meaty arms. It may run you more than 15 dollars for a dish, but you're not exactly going to be eating here every day. Make it count. 4.0/5.0

Came here late night on way up to Tahoe! Parking lot was packed, wasn't sure if there's a long wait for table of 3! My 2 friends and I all ordered the same thing "the pete's special". All you can eat salad, bomb ass sourdough bread and a beverage of your choice (beers,soda,coffee,etc...) and of course a 10oz steak! The steak was da bomb! I would definitely come back!

This place is great. The food is really good and the service is great. The tab can get pricy and sometimes there's a wait for a table. Overall, this is a great steakhouse. Best prime rib and sirloin steak I have in a long time. The garlic fries are to die for!!

I have to drive to Sacramento a lot. Every time I drove past Dixon, I could not stop myself from going to Cattlemens. Their salad is very fresh and crunchy. I had 24 oz Cowboy steak almost every time. It's the best steak I ever had. Their service is great too. I really enjoy it.

  • Marcus W.

I love Cattlemens. I live in Folsom and Dixon is the best one in the area. If you want a good steak you would love it too. I order the Pete's Special which comes with a drink. It also comes with Salad, Bread & Beans that is all you can eat as well as choice of potato. Prices have gone up during the years but not much and is still worth the price. The reason why Dixon is the best is the wait staff tends to your needs and never had a problem.

My friends and i usually stop at Cattlemens on our way back from Tahoe or Reno. I am not a big steak fan but i have to admit Cattlemens' steak literally melts in your mouth. I LOVE the unlimited salad and bread. The restaurant is pretty big and there are plenty of parking even during the busy hours. The wait isn't very long for a big group and the hostess seats you fairly quickly. Cattlemens is definitely a great place to eat on an EMPTY stomach! the portions are huge plus the salad, bread and beans, you will leave STUFF. I still find it funny that one of the workers have to carry a pot of beans to your table and ask if you would like some beans. I call the girl with the pot of beans = THE BEAN GIRL

Came here with my g/f on a Monday to try their $2 ribs. Not great at all. Kinda burnt and with a funny/bad after taste. Most of it seemed like it was fat and no real meat. Somehow, that wasn't the worst part.... We also ordered their nachos with steak. Yep... even worse. The cheese and chips were burnt. Not a good burnt, but an overpowering flavor taking burnt that makes you wonder what the flavor is supposed to be when its not burnt. I couldn't really taste anything on that thing. The steak on it was so chewy, thick, and flavorless as well. Based on the nachos and steak they should get 1 star. The only thing that brings them up to 3-stars is that they catered to my work once and all their fried stuff was great! The fried cheese, mozzarella sticks, chicken strips, and tumble weed onions deserve far more than 1 star.

If I was rating C'mens just on the meat flavor and preparation, it would be FIVE STARS. However, I'm chiming in with just Three, and here's why: -Our waitress started off the experience by taking our drink orders and informing us that the back banquet room was having a "Purse Party" hosted by one of the restaurant's "regulars" This is where my mind took me...... "wow is she really telling us the place is peddling counterfeit goods in the back room" then... "well we are in the damn country" then... "purse parties are so early millennium" then...all I could respond with was "oh so there is a swap meet happening here tonight?" She just kinda laughed, shrugged it off and walked away.... (she repeated this same process later when my BFF told her there was a piece of junk paper served on our plate with the dip "oh" *insert any blonde joke here* ) -Spicy Buffalo Wings with some Beef. Okay, this sounded interesting and our pal highly recommended them. They were tasty and spicy but...I suspect the "beef" is just pieces of cow garbage they trim off the real steaks... I got tired of chewing my one and only piece after five minutes... -Baked Potato with sour cream and chives but no butter? So, we asked for butter and another server said "oh we can bring you butter if you want it" YES we eagerly replied. She brings back one for the three of us. Ummm, hello we did not get these lovely voluptuous shapes sharing one slice of butter... GET with the Program. HAHAHHAHAHHA After, we finally got out butter...the baked potato was FAB!!! I guess that is pretty much it. The Fillet Mignon was miniature....advertised as 6 oz but clearly only about 4 once it arrived. It was just like BUTTA tho.... I joked it was fresh from the cows in the back... it was that NEW. Loved it.... Here are some other good things: -Warm, doughy sourdough bread with butter... TD4 -They are super on top of the refills....always appreciate that -Some cheesy gooey artichoke appetizer dippp TD4, part II I'd like to say I will give it another try, and I am sure I will one day....just don't know when since they are way the hell in bumfugged Egypt.

Yes, this is a chain, but the quality (particularly of the steaks) surpasses that of other steak chains. I do have to say Tahoe Joes has them beat on baked potatoes. Cattlemen's started offering small plates in the bar area only last year, and these are a great value. The only thing I miss is the "bean girl" (the person who used to wander the restaurant with a large caulderon of baked beans, refilling customer's plates)

I had a crappy ass waiter and crappy ass service the first time I was here. I didn't come back again until about a year ago, and I haven't had a problem since. My date and I always order the prime rib here. an 18 ounce is good enough to share here anyways, as it comes with a large salad and a side. It seems though that the best day to go here for prime rib is on a Friday, which unfortunately due to my work schedule I can no longer enjoy. There is most likely a different chef that seasons the prime rib daily, so there may be days where is perfectly seasoned, and days where it may be hardly seasoned at all. There was this one time where I did come and the steak was melt in your mouth tender. Oh how I miss that day. (daydreams about good prime rib)

After driving past this place all through college and back-and-forth numerous times from the Bay Area, hubby and I finally tried this place out....and we left wondering WHY DID WE NEVER stop by sooner. We have been missing out! Cattlemens has a cozy atmosphere. And we got seated in one of the small booths. We ordered the special dinner combo for two which includes an appetizer, salad, bread, beans, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts. WOW...we were hungry from shopping at the outlet but this was more food than we could handle. We choose the Tumbleweed (shoestring onion rings) as appetizer. And it was so crispy....with a hickory salt taste. The batter was very light. Came with BBQ and ranch to dip. For the entree, hubby had the rib eye and I had the prime rib. Both were done to our liking. The meat was flavorful and cuts well. And the dessert....we had had too much by now and had it boxed. We had a slice of the triple chocolate cake and a mocha cake. They were big and evil slices! We will be back to try more...but no more combo dinners since we learned our lesson this time. Having an entree will be quite enough.

I've only gone here for the $2 Rib Special and it is so worth it!! It is only on Monday nights and about 3-4 years ago, the ribs special used to be $1 ribs. Now they racked up the price but it's still decent. The ribs are very tender, some ribs are smaller than others but 3 ribs will fill up a girl. So a $6 rib dinner is pretty good. I recommend Monday nights! But come early, sometimes there are tons of people that go and the ribs may run out. Bring your appetite especially if you love meat.

Great place to stop by for steak and potatoes on your way to/from Tahoe. I'd recommend the 13oz (or 18oz if you're so inclined) prime rib. Deeeeeeelicious! The steaks are very affordable and beats outback, hands down.

  • M C.

It was nice coming here and having a steak. So accustom to Black Angus and Outback that I didn't know what a good steak should taste like. The place has a true Texan feel. The only thing we weren't able to try was the chili, the chili lady ran out before coming towards us. And was amazed we weren't the only Asians in there, if you still count the bananas.

You drive on 80 east and see those yellow neon lights.... Cattlemen's..... then you see SUPERCENTER WAL-MART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In all of its florescent lighted GLORY!!!!! I was originally brought here during my college days, for Monday night football... but who cares about football, because its BUCK-A-RIB night at cattlemen's. $3-$4 and I'm super full, totally sick of beef. I will eat salads for the next couple of days. Parking is ample. But business is booming, probably b/c theres not many dining options around here unless you want popeye's or subway or wendy's.... As far as the yumminess of the ribs during buck a rib.... Well you can order 20 ribs that come out on a silver platter (you get one t-shirt stating you are now in the 20 BONE CLUB) hahaha tacky cheesey, makes a good muscle tee if you're I dunno... like XXL. After for 5th or maybe 6th if you can even go that far.... You feel like you're eating tires covered in BBQ sauce. The beef ribs are HUGE like the size of my forearm practically. Chew chew chew chew.....Yeah, not so great. But if you're looking for a memorable time with some friends for cheap thrills, this will be something you will want to do once, maybe twice, each football season.... Their deep fried onion shoe string fries are super good. Pretty similar to what you get at buckhorn grill. Steaks are pretty good. they have the server tell you that their meat is from harris ranch and is aged for some 30 days... Def try their twice baked potaterrrrs. I LOVE how they give you this tiny little mini metal bucket thing... and this big lady with a bucket with beans literally comes up to your table, and SLAPS down a ladle full of refried beans in your little bucket thingamajig. My friends liked it SO much, they stole it so they could use it as an ash tray. I KNOW, so ghetto. Those turd faced idiots. Anyways, I don't think I've EVER left this place hungry. Its one of those I need to unbutton the top button of my jeans kind of full. Or thank goodness I'm wearing an empire waisted dress kind of full. Actually its more like, hey guys, lets go to WAL MART and walk around for a while to let myself digest before I hop in the car to go home and knock out from food coma kind of full.... Atmosphere wise, its not your run of the mill house of prime rib, mortons, harris, lawrys.... When I first walked in this place, I feel like I'm in texas. Never been there, but this is what it looks like in my head and after all the stuff I see on TV, b/c we all know everything we see on TV is totally TRUE. its like you walked into a ranch barn, saloon, cabin, log house, something-rather. Wooden carved Indians, wooden benches, HUGE buffalo hanging from the wall. Decor wise, its totally TEXAS!!! Then you look around at the people.... And you feel like you're in TEXAS!!!!!! (aside from the skinny starving college students from davis who are GORGING on food). EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS!!! ..... maybe dixon toO!!!! Well I've moved on to my next stage of life, will I ever come back to eat here?? Maybe... if I have friends that want to try out buck a rib.... But HIGHLY doubtful. I run with a classier crowd now.

Cattlemen's is like an abusive relationship. Sometimes it's freakin' spectacular and you're on an enormous high, but sometimes you get beat and betrayed and you feel the lowest of lows. Overall I've had many great times here, and I guess I choose not to look too much to the bad. I should probably give this place a lower rating, but I freakin' love this place. Do I sound like I have a complex? I must, because I have the Dixon Cattlemen's number saved in my cell... Cattlemen's is the closest you'll get to a cowboy steakhouse in Northern California, but it does a pretty good job at it. The restaurant looks like an oversized barn, and when you walk in it looks like you just walked in a barn. The decor adds to the cowboy feeling of the establishment, and so does the dining. They start your meal on a huge bowl on salad that you share with everyone at the table. A simple, fresh salad that is best topped with ranch. They also offer up some fresh, warm bread that's crusty on the outside and fluffy (ready for butter) on the inside. Your steak comes with a choice of potato, and then the "bean girl" comes around with baked beans. They have some good choices of potato: baked with fixings, mashed, country, and twice baked. If it's your first time, get the twice baked. Now to the most important part, the steak. They serve Harris Ranch steaks there so you know you'll be getting some quality, flavorful meat. Lightly seasoned in their own rub, the steaks are grilled and come out always looking perfect. No need for any sauce here, because the flavor of the Harris Ranch beef hinted with its rub gives you a great bite each time. I've had the sirloin, the New York, the Prime Rib, the Ribeye, the T-bone, and the 32 oz. Porterhouse. My favorites are the Ribeye and the 32oz. Porterhouse. If you go for the porterhouse, make sure you have an appetite to tear through TWO POUNDS of meat. This place has topped off many great snowboarding and wakeboarding days. A good, hard day on the mountain or in the water builds up an appetite and Cattlemen's has been there for the many groups I've gone there with. But because we depend so much on that steak dinner to top off our tiring day, the lows can be real low. Sometimes the service is slow, sometimes the service is inept. The big letdown is when they overcook your steak. This has happened on many occasions, a big no-no for a steak joint. And how can you get past thinking about rewarding your day on your board with a steak dinner just to get a steak that has no red in the middle. Do you send it back or just eat it? Oh the anguish in such a decision. Do you wait for another or do chew on the still flavorful but overcooked meat? Either way you're kind of screwed and you just feel a bit sour. But you still have to love the place for giving you so many good times and so many good meals. The price is reasonable too. No meal tops a day on your board than a meal at Cattlemen's. For that I will keep going back, and for that I will give them four stars when they actually deserve three. Feels like an abusive relationship I tell ya.

I had come here once in the past, before I really started eating red meat again, and I think I got some sort of chicken dish and wasn't impressed. Fast forward about 4 years and 53 steaks later and wow! I was so pleasantly surprised by the food and service here that I will definitely be back. My fiance and I got the meal for two that comes with an appetizer, entree, and dessert and I loved everything. There is no way you can leave this place feeling full- with the unlimited bread and salad. I'm excited to go back!

Honestly as I write this review, I'm still over stuffed from eating here. Wheny my waitress said the portions were big, she was understating the fact. I have to eat every 3 hours and yet I ate here 5 hours ago, but when you eat here you might as well call it a night. The first thing you notice here is the smell of the meat being cooked. God, it was the best smelling food I've had in a while. Dollar beer night and ribs too. But my family opted for the dining in the restaurant. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms and bacon wrapped shrimp as appetizers. The mushrooms were really good. The shrimp wasnt as good, but yet how can you go wrong with bacon. My two little cousins had ordered the kids menu items and from what I saw and had some of, I wasn't impressed. But seriously you aren't coming here for the kids meals. My order of the Steak and surf came with a steak portion that was so tender and juicy that would make you swear they just slaughtered the animal mere moments before. I love the fact that you don't need steak sauce or anything to add to the premium steak cuts they use. Rule of thumb when eating steaks, if it needs sauce then it wasnt cooked right the first time. The shrimp scampi that came with my dinner has to be hands down some of the best scampi I've ever had. The portions were pretty big, I thought I ate my last shrimp and low and behold 8 or 9 jumbo prawns later I was finally done. Go here with a big appetite or bring it home. This steak is something to write home about, because the quality of steaks here is just beautiful. I want to go to happy hour here, dollar beer night and ribs, how can that go wrong. man...

Cattlemens has hanged their theme and menu many times over the years. They used to be cheap, had good beans (at one point you had to ask for the beans as a side and pay for them), and their prime rib used to be awesome. Nowadays, the wait staff is rude and lacks the charm that would invite one to linger over a meal. The past few times I have been here has resembled a crude attempt at joviality-our waiter really sucked ass. My prime rib (ordered medium rare) arrived cold on the middle. It also lacked any real flavor and I tried putting more au jus and horseradish on it in hopes to revive my beef. Nope. I took it home and put it under the broiler and it turned out okay. The beans were mushy, we had to ask for more salad and dressing. It took me forever to even get a refill on my water.

My husband and I had dinner here last night. We just sat in the bar area (in their big, oversized, very comfortable leather couches) and order a few appetizers and split the New York Steak. It was excellent, and I am pretty picky growing up in a cattle ranching family. Excellent Service as well! I have been to three Cattlemen's Restaurant's and this was the best one yet.

$1 rib night can't be beat. Went on a rainy Monday evening to a packed room. Don't understand how my Coke was more expensive than a domestic beer, but whatever. I guess I'm just not much of a caveman style eating person like my friends, who grabbed each rib by the hands and went at it.

I've been going to Cattlemen's for nearly 20 years now, and I don't think I've had a bad meal there ever. The new york steak is awesome and the bar is great too. We've celebrated dozens of birthdays here for family and friends and they are always helpful. There are several large tables to accomodate big groups.

This is the restaurant you pass by on the way back from Tahoe. Twice. Once in Roseville, then again in Dixon. The temptation finally got to me. OLD SCHOOL. My dining companions had to remind me of this at least four times, every time I said something like: "Would be nice to have something GREEN on this plate.". "Can I request bok choy as a side?" "Why does it cost more for zucchini as a side? I don't want a potato." "They grilled that zucchini just like it was a steak. Look, it has cross grill marks!" I had ordered the 14oz rib eye steak. However, I saw our waitress deliver this giant steak to the table next to us. On a white plate with only a potato. A steak and a baked potato. Nothing GREEN, no garnish. It just didn't look that appetizing to me. I changed my order to the 7oz fillet mignon. It was good, but just a little too OLD SCHOOL steakhouse for my tastes.

Cattlemens is so delicious and the staff is amazing. The steaks are so juicy and full of flavor, and everything actually taste home cooked. This place is seriously the best place to go for a steak hands down. The decor is very country feeling, and their dessert tray is to die for. They're very affordable as well. I suggest you go. Mhm. I'm drooling just thinking about it (; Oh and their Chocolate Cake. ZOMG. Delicious!

Came here and had a Sheriff-- two pounds of pure meat. My friends also recommend the Porterhouse if you don't mind the bone being factored into its weight. Warm and crusty sourdough table bread with butter to start you off. Minus a star because their toss-it-yourself salads are pretty weak, with the only variations being in what kind of dressing you want at the table. Tasty strawberry daiquiris, but not particularly exceptional. The Sheriff also comes with a potato done to your liking; twice-baked was pretty garlicy, I'd just go with single baked next time. Service was okay, parking is fine, bill was hefty. Decor was... I can't say anything nice after being born and raised in Texas.

A pretty decent steakhouse in the way steakhouses go. Better than Outback, and not as delicious as Ruth Chris or Morton's. The portion sizes are very large which goes nicely with the endless salad. The steak was cook a little more redder than I liked (more on the medium rare end than on the medium), but still delicious. After I let it sit for a few minutes to cook internally, the color and texture was more to my preferences. The service was pretty good, but our waiter seem to always be in a hurry. He was very efficient and quick. I guess you have to be to with the crowds they get in. Overall, a pretty good place.

This restaurant has the best prime rib and best ribs that I've eaten. The meat is always so tender that you have to wonder if you're really eating meat. Sure, they don't have soup but they have great bread. Recently, they started offering their ungodly mashed potatoes as an optional side for no extra cost. They offer complimentary salads and beans, which mixes things up a bit. The wait staff has always been pleasant and one time, our server even boxed up fresh bread for us to take back to Davis since she "recognized starving students" when she saw them. There are better steakhouses out there, I'm sure, but none that are better for the reasonable prices at this steakhouse chain. ==== Rubric: 5 = Mindblowing 4 = Excellent 3 = I see the charm 2 = Disappointing 1 = Never again

Sorry. Sorry again. Sorry again again. I think this place is popular but I have yet to see exactly WHY!? anyone would eat here...I've been to this place a couple times in my time when I lived in Davis, and it's always disappointed me. The meat was ALWAYS tough and either overdone OR underdone, and it just was not cool. I'd have to chew chew drink water, swallow, and STILL have it go down with much difficulty...For the prices they charge I could buy my own filet mignon and cook it and STILL have it taste better. I guess I'm spoiled by good food in the Bay... Poor Dixon...they need a better "steakhouse"....

Question: Snowboarding or shopping? Shopping or Cattlemens? How about shopping AND Cattlemens? We were supposed to go snowboarding after a day of snowshoeing in Tahoe but we went shopping at the factory outlet instead. After shopping at the factory outlet for a few hours, we came here for dinner. This place is pretty nice since it's my first time here. I moved here from Denver, Colorado. It reminded me of a Black Angus Steakhouse in Denver. We ordered a full baby back ribs with two helpings of mashed potatoes. We also ordered a full beef ribs and stuffed mushrooms for appetizer. Everything here was delicious. We couldn't finish the ribs so we took them home and had it for dinner the next day.

Cattlemen's, this place got some of the best steak in the area and I'm definitely a fan. I've been coming here for awhile now since I'm originally from Vacaville, and I went to school in Davis for 4 years, and to this day, I have to say I've never had a bad meal here. Most of the time, especially during the college years, we'd come here on Mondays during football season for its $1 rib night. Sometimes we'd plan out class schedules to have Mondays free, in case we had a late class or lab just for these damn ribs. I wouldn't say it's the best ribs I've ever had, but for $1 for these big ass ribs, I doubt anyone can complain about that deal. After 6-7 ribs and bottomless sodas to wash it down, it's a damn good meal while watching MNF on TV at the bar. For the steaks here, I've ate here numerous of times as well. From its porterhouse, to their 2lb sheriff. The prime rib here is pretty damn good as well, I'd definitely recommend that cut of meal here at Cattlemen's. From the bread, salads, sides, and of course the steaks themselves, it's all very good. I was tempted to give this place 5 stars, but I don't think it's the BEST steak I've ever had, but this is a solid 4-4.5 star review. If you live in Solano or Yolo county and haven't tried Cattlemen's, do yourselves a favor and try it. It's that good!

I have been going to this place since I was a little girl. I have always liked the food, not to mention I have had most of my friends work here at some point or another. The atmosphere is pretty cool (if you have no problem with stuffed animals everywhere, and I mean gigantic elk and moose head everywhere....and in Dixon, a boars head as well... with tusks and everything). Call me a red neck hippie, but I dig it. Sit in the bar area. Full menu and a little better service.

Service took awhile, but the place was pretty packed. the waiters are really nice too. it was cool that we got to dine in the bar area instead and the waiter hooked me up with a free bake potatoe! SCORE! the starters are well priced. the entrees my seemed over priced, but the plate is pretty big... and i end up taking half of it home. OH AND MY GOODNESS... i LOOOVE the bread and butter!!! freggin good! the only down side is that there wasnt much to choose from.

Great place for ribs close to Davis. Only been here for rib night. $1 rib night is only during football season from what I heard but otherwise, $2 for a giant beef rib is still good. The bar area is first come first serve. Service can get really slow on busier nights. As a side note, if you come here for your birthday, you get a cowboy hat.

I love this place! Best place to get a steak around. The salads are huge and you must try their homemade blue cheese dressing its delicious. The porter house and the T-bone is my favorite steaks they cover the plate. Outback steakhouse is a joke compared to Cattlemens!

Scuba Steve Ms. Koehler English II- period 2 10 October 2011 Cattleman's Cattleman's the name even gives it away. It is a place where families can go pig out and eat for fewer than 70 bucks. As soon as you walk into cattleman's they great you with a warm welcome. This place isn't just a historic stockyard city; they also have historic items inside the restaurant! It's a casual family own business that has been attracting all kinds of people for 40 years. This place founded in 1968 has been popping out western style food ever since. Even though there are 8 locations; they each keep the same love into their food. The ambiance of this place is fantastic you can either sit in an old western tavern, or at the hand carved booth. The appearance of the food is just mouth dropping, they take their precious time to get the exact detail done so you can be left speechless. The mouth-watering dish and their main attraction are the crunchy, saucy, baby back ribs. These ribs are tender and they have a beautiful scent that you can smell from the kitchen. These racks of ribs are tarnished with a perfect mixture of sauces. These ribs are cut perfectly to make 24 saucy ribs just eyeing you down to grab it and eat it whole. Even though this rack of ribs is sauced up they give you a separate container with more sauce! Also with a side of French fries that deify other French fries rules. There is even more selections at cattleman's, they have medium rare steak that just blows your taste buds through the roof. This steak has its own charbroiled taste going straight from the grill to your mouth. Their salads are exquisite with the perfect crunch of lettuce and croutons combined with their homemade thick milky, saucy, ranch dressing. Finally after the meal has come to a close you need something to wash everything down and they have the right thing. Their thick milkshakes make you want to crawl up into a ball and lay there. They have different flavors from their chunky cookies cream to their classic but oh so good vanilla. Cattleman's is a great place to go in under a low budget and pig out. Everything is perfect, from the service to their jaw dropping food. This restaurant is for people who like their food oozing with sauce and getting down and dirty, but this cowboy was satisfied with cattleman's and will be going back shortly.

Horrible service. Completely overpriced. I'd rather eat day old beef jerky that has been laying outside in the sun. Maybe if this place had servers that cared about the quality of your food, a reservation policy that let you be seated at the time you designate for your reservations (and not 60 minutes later), and Although the steak might be good (if you can get it cooked the way you order it), it is still pricey. Add that to the fact that some of the servers here are about as attentive as a three-toed sloth and this place has all the appeal of a gaudy Western from the 70's, and you have Cattlemen's. Thanks, but no thanks.

The steak was good, but nothing to rave about. The salad that came with it was blah, but I did enjoy the warm sour dough. Service was also decent, but the place was a little dirty (we went at 9:30 pm, so that may explain the the level of debris on the floor given that it seemed like a family-friendly establishment).

SO sometimes I ask myself, self is your job really that bad? Yes you have gone four years without becoming any closer to your goals than when you started, you do work that has become unfulfilling, and you work for some people that you question their abilities everyday. But on certain days, when you can convince your boss to spend some of that budget that he has to spend on food (give it up already dude it is Oct and you have only spent 20%) and he takes you all out to Cattlemen's, it doesn't suck as bad. Let's be clear... he pretty much had no choice. The food was good, warm, and the portions are huge. I have eaten here a number of times. I like steak, but I like the Dakota chicken more so I always order that. It is covered in cheese, mushrooms and bacon. A little mustard sauce so that you can have some cumin with your fat covered grilled chicken breast. The work homies ordered a million appetizers. My favorite was the mixed appetizer platter. Fried onion rings, cheese sticks, fried zucchini, and fried chicken fingers. Granted, all things taste better fried, but the amount they give you makes it worth it. I would only order it if I were with a party of 8 or more. My food came with salad and bread. I also ordered and shared a brownie desert. It was good. This is not fine dining, it is on par with Chevy's and Outback, but it is good enough. Nothing amazing, but it is close to Vacaville and for Dixon residents it is probably a taste of something good. Meat and potato fans unite! So today... and probably the rest of the week I will think of Cattlemen's as I stand in front of the mirror and coax myself to go to my dead end job. " I say self "It pays the bills, I want my retention bonus and to cash out my stock options, I like some of the people I work with, and they bought me steak on Wed"

My wife and I are starting the 3rd week of a road trip with our 94 pound labrador/rott. We were getting sick of eating takeout food in our hotel. I called Cattlemens Restaurant in Dixon Ca. this afternoon (Sat.) and was told that even though they don't have outdoor seating come on down and they would take care of us. We arrived at 5:30 and they had set up a table for 2 on the Wild West style wooden sidewalk where people normally wait for their table. Luke, the manager, had gone out of his way to accomadate us. Pat, our waiter, introduced himself to Rocky and made sure he had plenty of water. A very nice prime rib dinner with all the fixin's. Reasonable price for all the food. Beyond dog friendly. I don't think they would ever have more than 1 dog friendly table available so call in advance. Thank you Cattlemens for a great experience.

My bf and I wanted some steak. His brother recommended for us to go to Cattlemens. Our main server Angelin was great, ensured us that if we want medium rare steak, we will get that. We were worried because another restaurant guilt tripped my bf into just eating a well done steak. "That steak still looks yummy, I would still eat that." that waitress said. However, there was none of that BS here. Steaks comes out and we were happy with the hole in the wallet. Will come again.

I was a bit nervous going in, as some other reviewers noted dirty dishes. As soon as I sat down, I made sure that the dishes and silverware were clean, they were! We had a wonderful waitress and other staff that made sure our drinks were filled. I had the Baby Back Pork Ribs and baked potato. Wonderful!! Of course, I didn't get to eat much of it, as the sourdough bread that they bring, before the meal, was soooo good!! Everyone else at the table enjoyed their food as well. A mixture of Ribeye, Grilled Shrimp, soup and salad. I didn't mind the dim lighting; however, it was quite noisy, so sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant made it difficult to hear everyone at the table. Overall a good experience and will dine again.

Cattlemens MMMmmm! Great steakhouse, I've been here many times and never had a bad visit. You can sit in the saloon or the restaurant. Their saloon has a bar and several bar height tables, a couple of booths, a fireplace and a saloon menu. There is also a separate happy hour menu which is a pretty good deal with drink specials and some small plate options. I recommend the beef ribs & the artichoke cheese dip. The prime rib is my favorite thing. I love that entrees come with salad, their EXCELLENT fresh sourdough bread, and beans. That's in addition to the side that's on the plate. I go for the good ol' baked potato with sour cream and green onions. I always end up with a box for "lunch tomorrow" or "2 hours later on the sofa while binge watching Walking Dead". Mm zombies, anyone else craving rare prime rib? The desserts are ho-hum, but the margaritas are delicious!

The food is really good, the service is a bit slow. The baby back pork ribs are very tender and highly recommended. I've had the t-bone and it is excellent. Dinner is served with bread and butter, and a side plus a salad. The fried apple pie is very unique and highly recommended. One portion can easily feed three.

I love steak and have been to many top steakhouses in US. Cattleman reminds me of Big Texan steakhouse in Amarillo, Texas. Don't be fooled by it's rustic structure. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. The service was friendly and the price was very reasonable. If you like to enjoy juicy steak in a relaxing casual restaurant. This is for you.

We typically go here when we're in Vacaville for Christmas Eve with my MIL every year. Its never too busy that we cant get seated right away. The services is pretty attentive. The steaks are delicious and very tender. We often go for the deal where you get an appetizer, entree and dessert and it never seems like there is enough room for all of the food. Wine and drink selection is pretty good as well. Over all we enjoy going here and plan to keep coming back.

If you like your meat, this is the place for you! Quite a ways out of the city but worth the drive if you're already shopping at the outlets nearby. I would suggest making a reservation, this place was packed on a Sunday evening! Service is good and I just can't help but think about that show, Fresh Off The Boat when I got here. Yes!! This is the closest to Cattlemen's Ranch I'll ever get to. I ordered the Western Cut prime rib which was way bigger than I thought it'd be. I rarely can stomach this much meat but we came here for a birthday celebration so it was definitely a special occasion! The meat was flavorful, the drinks were ok. I got the legendary margarita which was a bit watered down. The mai tai as well. For dessert, we ordered the fried apple pie and the cowpie. Way to end the meal :)

Since this place isn't too far of a drive from Davis, it's become my go-to steak place in the area. Not every experience is great but I love the place. Positives: 1) Bread: Love the bread. Love it to death. I basically will eat the bread for my meal. 2) Weekday deals: Mondays through Thursdays, Cattlemen's have special deals for cheaper meals and drinks. Personally my favorite's are Mondays when I could get the Motherlode Burger (which lasts me 2-3 meals) and Thursdays when I could get the shrimp (I ask for the cocktail, though it's not listed). They come with quite a bit of food, add in the bread, salad, and beans, and you can squeeze 2-3 meals out of it. 3) Prime rib: Probably my favorite dish I've had here. It's a bit on the expensive side but it's delicious. I always get it rare because it'll become medium rare to medium on the plate. I also recommend the garlic fries as a side. 4) Service: Always had good service here. Some better than others, but never bad. Negatives: 1) Appetizers: Generally not a fan. I've had the mushrooms, eggrolls, potato skins, etc. They're all clunky and not very tasty. 2) Desserts: Same as the appetizers, clunky and heavy. Not worth the calories or cost. 3) A lot of other cuts of meat: This should really bring my score down but I love the bread and prime rib so much that I don't care. But generally, the other meats were...not good. I usually order rare or medium-rare and the meats were sometimes overdone or they just weren't fresh tasting. Maybe my 2-3 experiences with these dishes were a coincidence but I'm not gonna risk it. I'll stay with the prime rib. Overall, I love this place. It's not perfect but you can get a good meal for cheap or you can indulge a bit and get a nicer meal.

Bad service. Racist waiters/ress. I went with my family and they sat us in the corner of the room, way in the back. We were practically ignored for over 15mins, no one came to ask about our drinks, no appetizers, while the tables all before us were getting served. We spoke to the manager, he apologized, and attempted to remedy the situation. In all honesty, he did his best, but the waiters/resses need to get it together. We have gone here a few times and even bought their tshirt for our daughter. The experience we had tonight really made us sad and we felt we were profiled right from when they made us sit in the inner back corner of the restaurant.

It's a rarity when even years following a previous visit, the food tastes exactly as you remembered... Even more of a plus, when that experience was positive... In this case, my previous visit was a life altering "foodie" experience, involving the "Cattleman's Cut Prime Rib"... My previous trip to Cattlemen's was a good 5 or so years ago, back when I lived in the Solano County area. Even years later, I could still vividly imagine the taste/texture of the meat, the perfectly seasoned crust infused into the outer thin layer of crispy fat, etc... I'd strategically eat my prime-rib, savoring the outer edges until the very end... Most recently, when presented with options for a spur-of-the-moment dinner for a Birthday get-together for family in the Solano area, Cattlemen's was the first thing that popped into my mind. Called ahead & they assured they'd have a table available to accommodate our fairly large party, even with less than a few hours notice... Upon arrival, we were escorted to one of the back areas to a large, combined table with more than sufficient elbow room for everyone in our party. Servers immediately dropped off large loaves of warm bread & butter (Crispy outer crust, soft & tender on the inside), paired with the softened butter & we were already off to a great start... When rounds were made by the server inquiring on entrees, I of course relayed what has been on my mind for the last 5 years... Cattleman's Cut Prime Rib, medium-rare... My fixings included a loaded potato soup (drizzled with tabasco), All-you-can-eat Salad with ranch dressing & a side of rice. Soup was decent, though I refrained from finishing (just a teaser prior to the meal), considering I wanted to save my appetite for the 16 oz. Prime Rib. (Not to mention the fact that I nearly polished off a good 2 loaves of their killer bread)... When the entree's arrived, everything from the Rib-eye, to the Baby Back Ribs, to the Lemon Herb Chicken Breast (even the Shrimp Scampi) looked picture perfect... No bait & switch here... My Prime Rib looked just as good (if not better) than what I remembered. After snapping the pic, I was seriously contemplating making it my screensaver... Was it just me? You be the judge: tinyurl.com/ppohwdz In all seriousness, everything was absolutely amazing... The wife enjoyed her chicken breast, in-laws enjoyed their meals as well (ribs stripped to the bone) & Rib-eye's vanished into thin air... The Prime Rib I savored until the very end... Very well marbleized, perfect temp & of course that amazing, seasoned & crunchy outer crust/fatty-goodness. I was literally shaking my head in disbelief during each bite... Dipping into the Au jus & a dab of the horseradish, chased with a forkful of rice. I doubt I said a single word during the entire meal (with the exception of the toast from the massive, frosty mugs of Anchor Steam). Top this off with the KILLER service (reasonable pricing) & this became one of the most satisfying meals/experiences I've had in quite some time... We shall return...

$1 ribs on Mondays during game season! What's better than that? Driving there is a little scary. There are few road lights and there's a sharp turn in the road before getting to the lot. The inside is pretty homey. There are animals heads and paintings around every corners. During the sale, they separate the people who want ribs and everyone else who wants to eat from their actual menu. Our server was a bit cold to us :( telling us that we couldn't combine certain tables and we'd have to wait if we wanted to eat with all six of us together. The ribs itself were pretty good and hearty. It just gets cold fast under all the fans. I can't really give any less stars for such a good deal. Other menu items are pretty good to me. The fries were crunchy and the right amount of salty. The steaks are super hearty and the sides are pretty perfect!

Looks delicious but had no flavor. Also, some woman who looked like a manager kept giving me a scowl. Maybe smile? Other than that our server was nice and attentive. I was really disappointed to have driven all the way out to Dixon to not be satisfied with my meal. I felt like the food was lazily made. The artichoke dip had no flavor whatsoever.. I was expecting something comparable to elephant bar artichoke dip but I literally could not taste a thing with each bite. Not to mention it was extremely oily.. I ordered a lobster tail plate with mashed potatoes. The only thing I really liked was the minimal amount of beans that me and my boyfriend had to share as a side ... But even the beans tasted like they came out of a can. The lobster had no seasoning and I could tell it was just boiled in water and placed on a plate. The mashed potatoes were nothing special either. Luckily the birthday boy enjoyed his crab and steak but we will not be coming here again. :(

Worst experience ever (the evening of August 31, 2015). Within 15 minutes of sitting down in the bar, I was alerted (by another patron) that my vehicle had been broken into. The thieves took two computer bags. The manager's only concern for me: was I planning to eat my meal. When I asked for a band-aid (my finger was cut from clearing the broken glass), the good for nothing manager denied me one. It took other victims (also patrons) to call the police. The manager eventually mentioned that car theft is very high at the restaurant. Never, ever, EVER again. SMH

I had passed by this restaurant plenty of times on the way to Sacramento and always pictured it as a place for cowboys with a name like Cattlemen's :p Decided to look it up on Yelp and for the most part liked what I saw in pictures and reviews. I finally was able to check it out just recently. We got there around 4:30pm on a Saturday and were seated at a booth. Disappointed right away upon seeing the food specks stuck to our plates, and when I unfolded my red cloth napkin to put on my lap I noticed a white stain on it. Ewwwww! The disappointment kept coming as the salad that came with our meals was not up to Olive Garden standards :p Didn't care for the bread either. The whopper: my well-done steak was cooked medium rare! To top it all off, we decided to order their cheesecake which was not good at all. It looked and tasted more cheese than cake, nothing creamy about it at all! Plus my dessert fork had a fingerprint on it :/ The whole time I was there I was wishing I was at Tahoe Joe's instead, dusty tables and all! I satisfied my curiosity but will not be coming back here. If you must try it just know that it gets very busy at prime time dinner hours. It wasn't even 6pm yet but every table was taken and there was a wait. Lots of people seem to like it, but this place isn't for me.

The waitress we had was wonderful, attentive, helpful, and sweet. The food was delicious, our out of town guest was very pleased. Dim lighting, slightly difficult to read the small print, I had to use the flashlight on my cell for people at the table to read the menu. Yummy Cheesecake

Forget driving down I-5 to Coalinga! Cattlemens in Dixon offers the same great tasting all natural, Harris Ranch beef without you having to drive by and smell all the cows on your way over. Definitely a win-win situation. My boss recently treated our team out to dinner here to celebrate some work anniversaries and we all left the restaurant stuffed full of deliciousness. Since I had never been here before, I took my friends recommendation and decided to order the 12oz. western cut sizzling prime rib. Melt. in. your. mouth. The sizzling meat was so tender and came paired with the au jus gravy for dipping. I also chose the mashed potatoes as my side which were rich and creamy, and in addition, the dinner entrees came with their all-you-can-eat salad. As good as the salad is with their individual dressings for each person, I'd say to try not to fill up too much on the salad or bread cause you gotta save room for the star of the meal! Since it's on the pricier side, I probably wouldn't frequent this place too often, but it's definitely a great place to go for special occasions or when you're craving a big, hearty steak.

REVOLTING!!!! We came here with a party of 30 for a retirement party and I immediately canceled my order after I saw THREE MICE crawling on the floor in front of me. The server told me that "he knew," WHAT?! Hire an exterminator before your customers get sick. I have never in my life had this happen - I will NEVER return to a Cattleman's restaurant. What's worse is that all 30 of these people are going to tell a friend, terrible for business. Oh, and the server opened the door to try to let the mice out and cigarette smoke started billowing in. Never spend money here. I cannot emphasize this enough, I'll be contacting the health department. And where does the hole in the wall where the mice went go, you ask? THE KITCHEN. The server didn't even offer to refill my water after I canceled my meal. No worries, they probably don't sanitize the drink fountains either.

Cattlemen's 6oz filet cooked medium is delicious. The staff are exceptionally friendly. If you are looking for a great steak, great service and a western atmosphere, Cattlemen's is the place. I haven't been here in a few years and it was always good. We went here tonight for dinner. The food was delicious and huge portions. Comes with bread and salad to begin with plus we got a appetizer. Then our main dinner came and none of us could finish it. They give you so much food. We all walked out of there stuffed. Excellent place to go. I had the ribs. Yum yum!!!

Great service, gets busy early. Went at 4pm on a Wednesday when they opened for a late lunch/early dinner and there were several parties before us. Porterhouse Bone in rib eye Sirloin The filet part of the porterhouse was most flavorful and tender. Besides that its nothing fancy, good ol American style steak. Drinks are huge.

Incredible value for a huge piece of well-seasoned rib eye! If you've never been to Cattlemen's, it's reminiscent of Black Angus and Claim Jumper's, both of which are casual family friendly chain restaurants that deliver legit value. Even the western old school decor reminded me of Black Angus. * Cowboy Steak ($25.99) - 3.5 STARS: This 20oz rib eye was pretty good for the value. It's a huge piece of steak, perfectly seasoned but quite chewy and tough. I don't know if I would say it is "thick and juicy" according to the description but they didn't skimp like most restaurants you leave you with more bone than meat. And, it was better than Sizzler's. There is a cheaper version, 14 ounce without bone, called the Rustler for $3 cheaper. I loved that each entree came with a generous variety of sides: * Unlimited Salad: Nothing special. I prefer Olive Garden's. * Complimentary Bread: Oh. My. God. So soft, warm, fresh, chewy. * Veggies: I opted for fresh veggies but for $1.99 you can get the sweet potato * Baked Sweet Potato: With nut butter, it was incredible. I'm not even a huge fan of sweet potatoes usually but this was amazing. Overall, great service and great value. The steak was unamazing, but you simply need to set your expectations before coming. I was happy with the gigantic piece they serve dme, and all those delicious sides.

This was our first time eating here. We had potato skins & buffalo wings and they were pretty good. My son who is s picky eater said the burger was delicious and that it melted in his mouth. Broccoli cheese soup was good too. Service was excellent. Karie was our waitress and Kyle kept bringing in the refills. Can't wait to come back for the Steaks!!

Let me just start by saying the negatives. Sat in bar area with no acknowledgement for almost 10 min. We had to ask for help. And no, the place was not busy at all. Then didn't even get an apology for the wait. The waitress had no personality. Although it started off bad she could have turned things around by having a better attitude. Positives Food is always great. Juicy tender steak Drinks are good My 12 yr old has a t shirt you pay 10 for and his food is always free as long as he wears it. The place is getting remodeled

I have been going to Cattleman's for over a year pretty frequently, and I have to say, tonight I have had THE BEST service. I want to give a shoutout to my server Adrian for being extremely attentive and friendly. This was the first time I have been to any restaurant and had quite literally everything be perfect. Everything was absolutely excellent, from my wait time to my service and food! Me and my boyfriend did the dinner for two, where we got an appetizer, two entrees, and two desserts for around $78 including both our drinks! The food was of course delicious as always! Highly recommend this place! Happy dining everyone:)

I would give 5 stars BUT the wait can be a little ridiculous! It is best to make a reservation. The all you can eat sourdough bread is my favorite part of the meal! I always order a steak (duh) and it is always on point! The other night I ordered the steak and shrimp meal. I wasn't fond of the shrimp but i wasn't going to complain. When the waitress noticed I barely touched the shrimp she recommended other substitutes for next time! Super nice! I wish I could remember her name! Love this place!

I cannot recommend this place. We ate here last night to celebrate. The wait was too long even though we had reservations. The service was lacking, the food was overcooked and the side dishes were uninspired. I'm sorry. Do yourself a favor and go to the Texas Roadhouse in Fairfield. We have eaten at Cattlemen's 3 times and this will be our last. The waiter, Bobby, dropped off bread at our table and split. He went to the next table and took them bread and took their orders before ours. We had been seated first. We were a party of 4 and they were an incomplete party of 10. Bobby came by and tried to get away with only taking our drink orders. I let him know we were going to order too as we had been there before the other table. Shameful that I would even have to mention that. If we hadn't already driven all the way to Dixon for reservations and waited for our table, I would have left. Needless to say, the other table was served first and their kids began to annoy the hell out of me shortly afterwards. Lastly, we were there with an exchange student from Japan. I did not want to make a scene by complaining, but the food was terrible. My medium rare ribeye was shoe leather. Bobby knocked over the bucket of beans on his tray, but still served it to our table and it looked like slop. I demand a recount on the vote that made this the best steakhouse in Solano County. It is terrible.

Ambiance was very casual, Loud but we didn't mind the noise since we were one of the many who made it. Service was very efficient and Crews have superb attitude, they even gave cowboy hats to our kids. There were few birthdays that day and kids enjoyed the crew singing:) Unlimited salad, and Tumble weed onions were goooood! Food was average. Mashed potatoes with no gravy ?( our kids did not like that). We had filet minion, new york steak and rib eye but all were dry:(

We've always passed by this place going to sac and finally got the chance to try it. I ordered prime rib with baked potato. Steak was alright, though the potato was a little dry, old somewhat. The chocolate cake tasted like somethjng you'd get from foodmaxx. Id rate this place a 3.5 just because the quality of food wasn't all that great, considering the price.

Cattlemens fills the void somewhere in between Outback (blaah) and Morton's (yaah), and what that translates to is decent food at decent prices. Of course, relatively speaking for a steakhouse, as Cattlemens is nowhere near cheap. The menu is standard western steakhouse with each entree accompanied with endless salad, hot bread, and beans. The beef comes from Harris Ranch and is all grain fed. The most popular item on the menu is Pete's Special which is a 10 Oz sirloin that comes with a side and a drink (soda, macrobrew swill or glass of house wine) included. They raised the price just recently to $17.99 but it's still not a bad deal. I also had a ribeye, NY steak, and baby back ribs here in the past and while steaks were done right each time, the ribs were not near the best I had. Lesson learned-order steak at steakhouse! The service is usually spot on but be prepared to wait as they're always busy, not just on the weekends. All included Cattlemen's is a good option for a nice dinner out that won't kill the budget. If you're looking for solid steaks in Dixon/ Vacaville/ Davis area this is your best bet!

What i ordered... Rib Eye with garden salad and baked potato, Artichoke Dip, chocolate cake and cheesecake Steak was cooked right but was too salty with lots of black stuffs.....meaning they need to clean and/or scrub that grill. bake potato was perfect, garden salad was plenty and fresh, artichoke dip was good. chocolate cake, though big in size was on far with what they sell at safeway. cheesecake was thick and creamy good but with a cheap tasting crust. complimentary hot sourdough bread was awesome........crusty and chewy, only if it was sharper i'll say it beats the frisco bread. ambiance... good (western theme, spacious and clean) service... great (my server "Shelby" and the bussers were professionals at what they do) cost... $$$ (fair)

Ate at the bar and had the ribeye. Service and food were great. "JJ" was the bartender & he could not have done a better job. I'll be back!

Tried Cattlemens again with a group of co-workers. Still surprisingly bad. Wow, again I just don't understand the crowds here. Steaks were tough and food was basic. My Cattlemen's special had a ribbon of fat through it and was low on flavor. All six of us had steaks, so no info on ribs. Sorry to say that all 6 of us gave the steaks and food a shrug with the statement I have had better. I suppose if you value price and service over food quality then it fairs well. I owe it to them to check out game night and to try the ribs, but never again for steaks.

C took me here for our monthiversary. It was my first time at a steakhouse, so take my opinion as you may. We came on Monday night (apparently every Monday is $1 ribs! or $2 for take-out) and it's only served in the bar area. We chose the dining area, because the bar area was packed and had a long line. After 20 minutes, we got our seats. We were served with warm sourdough bread with butter. C got a bluemoon on tap and I got a mai tai (so gross!). I was so lost when I looked at the menu. Each dish came with an unlimited order of salad and beans. But I went with the medium rare 9oz prime ribs (thanks to the Yelp photos that helped me chose). Every night they have an item on special and that night what I ordered was on special (nice!). C ordered the Hustler? (rare T-bone). It also comes with a side (mashed potato, sweet yams, twice baked potato, etc..) The prime rib was delicious! YUMMY! I couldn't finish it though, so I had it for lunch the next day. C didn't finish his either (26oz- whooo wheee). I enjoyed mine better :P We'll be back some day :]

Been coming here for special occasions ever since I could remember. The ambience is really good (just maybe a little too dark) but acceptable. I always ask for a booth since I like the bit of privacy they provide and they are conferrable. On busy days (like mother day) it's always a good idea to make a reservation or else expect to wait. The staff is great and helpful and even though they are busy they don't seem to be overwhelmed and extremely helpful. The servers are great too, they really make putting our order not feel like they are in a hurry. The salads are also great. They bring a big bowl of salad which great ingredients and they bring the dressings to you. The appetizers are good and always fresh. The main meal is always perfect and hits the spot (I recommend keeping it easy on the salad and appetizers or else you'll be full by the time the main meal comes through). This is a great place for special occasions and will definitely be coming back for sure.

Have been to this twice. I've also been to their location in Livermore. What can I say; I'm a "Tiger" and I'm a carnivore. The place is all by itself on the dead end road. You might get a little confused on how to get to it as you exit off the freeway. If you like steaks, and beef in general, you should visit a Cattlemens restaurant. Having been to steak restaurants in Texas, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Arizona, Nevada, and of course, here at home in California, I can unequivocally say that Cattlemens steaks hold their own. And there is nothing antediluvian about eating slabs of meat grilled to perfection in the simplest of ways. As a natural born foodie, I appreciate; and more importantly, respect all types of food regardless of the food's origin. The staff is respectful regardless of what ethnicity you belong to. And trust me. Having dined at literally hundreds of restaurants all over the place, this is not often the case. Bravo to all their team members, individual managers and their corporate policies as a whole. Nice to see and experience first hand equal treatment of all customers by their employees. Good Job! Their steaks are juicy, thick and take less chews with your teeth to dissolve in your mouth than their salads. They offer complimentary bread, a bowl full of fresh salad and free refills on your soft drinks. Each time I went there, the place was brimming with folks from different walks of life. Just waiting for my table in the waiting area, I met people who'd happily share their table with me. I'm affable by nature so, it was pretty awesome to meet friendly people. Will most likely write a separate review for their location in Livermore. I've visited that location thrice.

This review is purely based on the $1 rib specials on Monday nights. NOTES: - Only during football season. Generally from (Not sure if post-season counts) - The deal is only in the bar area! Let the servers know! - Come early as there is limited seating! - Other $1 items: Small pot of beans and sourdough bread and butter. I've been here a few times to watch some good football and eat some good ribs. My friends and I normally come around 6. The bar area is more than just a bar area. There's also a separate room that seats quite a bit of people. Like other bar places, seating is first come, first serve. My friends and I normally order about 6-10 each, depending on how hungry we are. The ribs themselves are normally really juicy and tender. They taste great with the Cattlemen's BBQ sauce! Be careful if you go later on in the day because I've had one or two tough ribs before. Service is pretty decent. The waitresses normally bring hot towels and refill water pretty often. Overall, I'll be coming back here again. Good ribs. Good price. Good football. Probably will go next Monday actually...

I could not believe how bad Cattlemans messed up my order tonight. To go out of my way to drive all the way to Dixon for them to get my order wrong is ridiculous! At that I order ahead of time and still have to wait 20 mins when I get there. And the place wasn't even busy! Terrible. At that I order 2 desserts and you don't give me ice cream!?! So basically I'm paying $8 for a cookie!!! I went to the dentist today and can't eat much but soft foods. I order salmon and MASHED POTATOES, and when I get home. NO Mashed potatoes! Paid for EXTRA bacon, and I didn't even get enough a regular order should come with. This such a pathetic dinner and waste of my money I will tell everyone From this moment on how terrible of service I had. Are you serious Cattlemans!!!? I'm so pissed off I will never eat there again. I can get better salmon elsewhere and closer and I'm sure someone else will be sure to get my order right!!!! A tip for them would be to make sure you get your to go orders right and give ppl what they ordered and paid/ waited for! Because you serve food other restaurants serve and they aren't in the middle of nowhere!

Food: Admittedly, their steak tastes real good. Either I order filet mignon or prime rib, I have never got disappointed. It also comes with extra two sides! If you go with your date or one more person, I believe that they have the course for 2 with appetizer/ main course and dessert with a reasonable price Service: Their service is helpful and professional. Location: You can see it when you drive on the freeway 80. Its located near Walmart. Huge parking and typical steak house interior decoration.

Well, here they they go again, after a good run of a few years of steaks that where off the charts, something has changed, ,, we eat there every week and the last 4 weeks have been horrible, 3 out of the last 4 was do to the quality of the steak, horrible , tough , gristle running through it, and dry, and the other was just cooked wrong, very very dry. Talked to the manager but he had no answer. I'm on a first name bases with almost all the servers and when I mentioned the problem they shook their head like they know , and they know something has changed ,, oh well I'm not paying 27$ for a 15$ steak, won't be going back for a few months. When their steaks are on the money , they are better the. Ruth's Chris steakhouse , but when their bad as they are again, I rather go to mcdonalds , what a shame,

I've been to this cattlemen's a few times now over the course of a year. In the last year this place has gone south. The place will be empty and the hostesses will make you wait for a booth for up to 20 min and then give you the excuse that they don't have enough servers or waitresses. So what they are telling you is management is too cheap to have more servers working and you the customer must be inconvenienced. Unacceptable. This has happened the last 3 out of 6 visits here. I get great service at the Livermore ca, cattlemen's. The food here is okay. Portions are small and you wait forever for your food. Some of the serving staff is good but some of the big guys are slow and rude.

I was craving steak, so we made an impromptu trip to Cattleman's. We live so close to this location, and yet have never made it out here. We walked in, the restaurant was packed, but the friendly hostess seated us right away. Our server was also prompt and friendly, and our drinks and food came quickly. While our meal was decent, this is a steak house after all, so I'm going to have high expectations of their steaks. Both of our steaks were overcooked and under seasoned. I ordered a medium rare and got medium well. The server was super nice and quickly offered to replace it. In all fairness, my replacement steak was cooked a perfect medium rare - but was still under seasoned, so I had to salt it. And I hardly ever touch the table salt at restaurants. Perhaps they were having an off day. I'll give it a shot another night, maybe to try some of their weeknight specials.

The wait was 45 mins long but worth it. The mushrooms appetizers were good and salad was fresh. The prime rib was great, full of flavor, buttery and amazing. The only negative thing is that I asked for a rare piece, but they gave me medium. HUGE difference. My dad's meal was great. He loved his rare 24 Oz t-bone. That bday boy was so happy and the service was great.

Laura our waitress was sweet but... 1. Water glass had a metal butter cup at the bottom 2. Salad bowls, silverware, and knives were greasy (nothing the smelly cloth napkins couldn't take care of, although my daughter's bowl was just TOO gross so we got a new one) 3. Daughter's steak came rare/med rare (ordered medium) it also tasted CHARRED, not char broiled 4. My steak tasted like SOUR MILK 5. They gave us our sides to eat while husband completely finished his steak (low on flavor but eatible) 6. after husband was long done his meal we got our steaks, this was frustrating 7. The gentleman that brought the steaks to the table, was indifferent, and asked me to try mine to be sure it was okay, it did taste better than the last one for sure! 8. After the first bite, each bite was FAT, I probably got 5 bites of meat that weren't completely fat, literally 3/4 of the steak was fat. 9. The gentleman came back and saw me searching for meat instead of fat, and asked if I wanted something else, but seemed irritated, so I just told him, no, that's fine (he made me feel uncomfortable, like I was in the wrong). The server was kind enough to take the steak portion off of our bill (rightfully so!!!), but that's not the issue, it just stunk not being able to eat with my husband, and it was just frustrating all around 10. My husband asked to speak to the manager to just explain that Laura, our server tried really hard, but wanted to make him/her aware of the butter dish in the water, the undercooked steak, sour steak, nothing but fat steak, and the uncomfortable feeling that we got with the gentleman that brought us our steaks. WELL, that, "Gentleman," was the MANAGER. I'm thinking that since this was NOT our first lousy experience at Cattlemen's in Dixon, it will certainly be our last. It is evident that work places are only as good as their management.

I was so disappointed! Came here for my wife's birthday "50" and brought about ten others. My steak was Luke warm and mash potatoes Luke warm. Gave it back and the waitress brought the same piece of meat microwaved! They had the air conditioner blowing down on top of us so hard that our hair was blowing around. The waitress was slow and not all that good. Definitely will not come back; instead I'm going to Texas road house! Over priced and over rated. They didn't even sing happy birthday or ice cream given.

DIRTY DISHES, every Fu@king time! food is okay, service is sub par, but the worst is the dirty dishes every single time we go here! We get at least 2-3 dirty objects on our table! Tonight, we tried again, and had every single salad plate had food stuck to it. We moved tables, and 4 more dirty dishes! They bring us all new plates and the manager comes out to explain that the dirt was just debris from other dishes. We then flip over the dishes to show her how much food was stuck to the bottom of these new ones also! They just wiped out the dirt and served it to us!!! Some of the stuff was orange, some green, some black, just OMG REALLY???!?!? The dish washer must be a dog that works for licks! Its that bad! They brought the salad, and the cucumber was so dried out, and deformed that it was more like a 1/2 way cooked chip! (green veggies are the #1 bacteria covered items that get people sick, other that seafood) IF THE OBVIOUS STUFF IS THIS DIRTY, IMAGINE THE KITCHEN!!!!!!!!!!! We walked out. Sucks because we don't know where to get a good steak anymore! they don't even look at the plates there giving you! When we got a dirty plate, and reported it, they brought us ANOTHER DIRTY PLATE! THEN, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE 3RD PLATE THEY BROUGHT WAS ALSO DIRTY!!!!!!!!!! MORONS!

DISGUSTING! They are not even deserving of a single star. My entire group got extremely sick the next day after visiting this restaurant, INCLUDING MY CHILDREN. What makes it worse is that after speaking with a member of this restaurant about the matter is that he KNEW THERE WERE RATS IN THEIR RESTAURANT..and that they're doing their best to fix it. (Setting up boxes in corners?...) service was bad to top it all off. Asked our waitress a few favors (like to please see a dessert menu) and completely forgot! Save your time and money...skip this place!

So I ordered a medium but they gave me a well done sirloin steak, and they gladly changed it for me and added more garlic fries which are so amazing and some mushrooms to say they're sorry :) I am happy camper

I love prime rib and when the waiter recommended a good rosee I was thrilled. He was polite, friendly, attentive, and witty. He kept out glasses and tummies full! He even laughed when my husband and I reenacted a scene from 16 candles. Thanks for making my birthday rock!

I have to say, we haven't been here in a while. Tonight I ordered the Salmon, a little pricey at $22, and it was clearly a frozen piece of fish, heated and then drizzled with bottled teriyaki sauce. Mashed potatoes were cold...I'm so disappointed. The bread was the highlight of the meal :(

This is my favorite spot for a quick affordable meal. I order from the $2. $4. $8 Bar menu. My favorite is the Lamb Lollipos and the Teriyaki Steak Kabobs with a glass of Merlot. The service is great. We never have to wait for a table. You can also order from the main menu in the bar.

This review is in two parts. 1) Cattlemen's: when you are closing your place of business for remodeling, you should be able to notify Yelp. 2) Yelp: you are a main stay for people eating out as well as a host for many other venues. I drove all the way from San Francisco to Dixon on September 27, 2014. Because of traffic, it took 1 hour and 50 minutes to get to the Carquinez Bridge. But, we were thinking the drive was worth what out end outcome would be. A nice dinner at Cattlemen's restaurant. But our journey ended at the end of Dorset to find that the restaurant was closed for remodeling. So disappointed. My wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday. All I wanted was a dinner with the family at Cattlemen's. If it was posted on Yelp that you were closed for remodeling between the dates of September 15-30, 2014, we could have been saved from disappointment. Just a consideration. I am still giving a 4 star review, because it is a nice place to eat. When they are open.

Left me disappointed. I went here for my birthday expecting a really good steak, but I got a pretty decent steak. Let's start with the service. The waiter was very nice, but after talking to my wife there were a few things to watch out for. The waiter was helpful, but would very subtly try and upset you items if you didn't pay attention. For example, My wife was asked what sides fries, etc, and my wife said fries, but the waiter interjected you mean garlic fries, which actually cost more. Next the silverware was dirty and there was lipstick still on some of our water, so order a soda or something if you don't want water. I guess its part of the old West theme? That was pretty much it for my wife. The food. My steak was cooked as requested, medium rare. I order the cowboy steak, which is 20 oz. The steak was good, but I honestly can't remember the sides because they were not very good. My daughter had the ribs which she said were good and wife had the Pete's sirloin, which was supposed to be a favorite. My wife said the way I cook steaks and the meat I order at home was way better. :| Dessert. Dessert was another disappointment. I wanted the deep fried apple pie with ice cream. The presentation was great. I thought it was going to taste like a old school Mcky D's deep fried apple pie with ice cream. Alas, it was not. I thought the apple pie could have been cooked a little bit longer as the consistency was a little limp. The price was a little steep too especially with my expectations of the steak. I would not have minded the price if the steak was great. Safe to say, I won't be returning here again.

To the owners of Cattlemens, First off let me say my father-in-laws birthday is on 12/31. When you go there on your birthday you get a birthday hat and cake. He has 20 hats. We have a group of 12 or more every year, it is an annual family event. I proposed to his daughter last year at this place. That is the background. Now the food. 4 out of 6 our steaks were cooked wrong. 3 of our guests wanted well done steaks, that were still bleeding. I received a steak that was supposed to be medium, but was "grey" with very light char marks and was cold to touch. I sent my steak back and the kitchen microwaved it. I asked our server did they even put my steak on the grill? He said the kitchen did but in reality they changed plates and microwaved my 30$ steak. Needless to say I did not eat my steak. Cattlemens used to be a great place to go. We have history with this restaurant. Something was weird when you pull up on a busy day and there is parking. Last year we had a reservation for party of 15 and waited to get seated. There was empty seats in Cattlemens, so it was not busy. Our bill was 220$, with 3 of our 6 steaks refunded. The manager was ok, the server could of been better, we did have to ask for refills for soda/bread/ranch. It looks like everyone just wanted not to be a work. I hope they get there act together, my father-in-law has a gift card that we purchased for his birthday there. It will probably be the last time that we every go to this establishment. Thanks Brandon

Food was just ok. Went with a party of 15 and most of our food was cold, not cooked right, or just not very good. Drinks were ok. Servers were very friendly, that's what made it 3 stats instead of 2. Pricey for what you get. Big portions

Pros: great menu for meat lovers - steaks, ribs, prime rib, lamb. Casual, bustling atmosphere. Cold, crisp, fresh self-serve salad. Good wait staff service. Cons: had to send prime rib back twice to be cooked as "medium". Was served "rare" during first & 2nd serving. Had to send filet mignon back once to be cooked"well" as ordered...served as medium and without the baked potato side. For a place that charges $30 plus for prime rib & around $26 for a filet mignon cut ---which is what you'd pay in a fancier high-end steak house --- then the kitchen should know how to cook the meats the way the customer ordered. In any restaurant where customers had to return food 3x to the kitchen, something should've been comped or the manager should've stopped by to apologize. This is an average, high volume steak joint that charges high end prices. For the money you pay, you can get more value, better atmosphere, & kitchen service matching the price at a different place (close, better choice is the Buckhorn in Winters). We won't be back.

I will give it four stars our server was really nice. It had a pretty nice atmosphere... The only thing that bothered me was that the wait staff stared at us the entire time my husband my son and I were there. We were celebrating my husband's 55th birthday and it was our first time there. We did have to send back dirty dishes and silverware. My food taste good but my husband porterhouse steak had a lot of grissle which made him upset. My son had a burger that had nothing on it. Just meat and bread and he wasn't happy. I may give them one more chance but will see.

Been here a couple times and it didn't disappoint. Heard mostly from word of mouth that this place was great. The first time my mother and I went just as they were opening. We were seated quickly in an oversized booth. The inside is old western themed and pretty dim to be honest. Waiter was super nice and sweet. As an appetizer we got shrimp. It was good. We both got steak fillets as well. Very nice and tender. Now the desert is I remember most OMG! It's something of a fried apple pie with ice cream. We came again a few nights later just for desert. So doughy and good! Update 2015: Something went horribly wrong with the fried apple dessert with ice cream. It doesn't taste as fresh as before? Canned apples or something. The magic is gone :(

Just left after a good meal. Didn't realize our waitress Katie didn't give back my credit card. Had to call Cattlemens front desk said that they didn't find it. Had to call and cancel it. What a hassle, I don't think our waitress even looked for it. Probably shouldn't have tipped. Bad review for the attitude, extremely unhelpful. I am visiting from another state so even if someone nice turns it in I'm not local. After writing the review I contacted the restaurant and of course they had my card. I had them shred it since it had been canceled. Miranda emailed me about the issue and offered a gift certificate. When it came it was a generous 40 dollars. We went last night. It was crowded but we had a great dinner...with the gift certificate, I paid the rest in cash. Funny thing happened as we were outside waiting for a table, a waitress ran out the front door with a card in hand looking for Jose..good luck Jose. Thanks again to Miranda, because of her I will put Cattlemens back up to 4 stars.

I grew up in Dixon and Cattlemen's has been around a long, long time. My sons and I stop here every time we visit Dixon. We devour more hot baskets of bread than I care to admit to. It's always warm. The shrimp cocktail and accompanying sauce are amazing. I order the filet mignon and it's always perfect. My boys have eaten most of the steaks on the menu and always want to go back.

Was a nice night out with our large family, the loud environment was great for our loud kids lol super busy which meant the service was super slow :-( don't bother your self with their "world famous margarita" it tasted more like watered down tequila than anything else ! The bright side were the southwestern egg rolls and the fantastic sourdough bread ..., awesomeness . Prime rib was decent but the crab was a bit dry but what did I expect at a steak house ?

Went here on new years day with a steak lover, two people that do not eat beef, and a vegetarian. We all found something to eat and were happy with our meals. They only have one vegetarian entree, spinach ravioli, which we did not try and the broccoli cheese soup is chicken based. The potatoes were amazing thought we had both Russler's Spud (cheesy and garlicy) and normal baked potatoes and both kinds were awesome!

We scheduled a celebration of life yesterday after a burial at the National Veterans Cemetery in Dixon. We worked with Michelle who is the banquet Manager for multiple Cattlemans. She provide a private room, multiple menu options and a dedicated staff. Our servers were Ashley and Daniel and food and drinks were excellent! Our event was at 1:45 and normal hours are 4pm, with only our party present. If you are looking for a place to hold a private event after leaving the National Cemetery this is the place!

ok, this is not the fancy gastric experience we all are searching for, but for a night out, in search of good affordable steak with friends, especially on birthdays, this place delivers just that! Many a time their broccoli is very salty, and sometimes overcooked, the steak might be lacking in complexity, but still this place is worth a try! Try their martini, and their stuffed mushrooms. When ordering a steak, and this is important so listen up: DON'T FORGET TO GET IT WITH ONE OF THEIR TOPPERS. I like their mushroom and onions, and the blue cheese. Anyways, leave your critic hat at home, come here, grab some beers, and make sure you laugh as much as you can!!

Love this place! Great place for steaks and any other kind of meat. I don't know why but I love coming here. We are always greeted with such enthusiasm. Once we had to wait an extra 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. They did not hesitate at all to compensate with complimentary appetizers! I love coming here for the $2 rib nights. Get my fill of meat! It's a really good deal and the ribs are cooked to perfection. Slop up that delicious BBQ sauce and wash it down with my favorite beer.

Cattlemens is very similar to Black Angus, if you know what that is! All the way from the theme and decor of the restaurant to the food and prices. First, our server Jesse took great care of us! He seemed a little busy at first but was patient with our questions and made some good suggestions. I loved the huge mugs that they bring the drinks in. My boyfriend and I split a full rack of baby back pork ribs with a baked potato. The meal came with the endless sourdough bread and salad. We both got blue cheese dressing. I wasn't a fan of the dressing, but everything else was great - especially the hot sourdough bread! Oh and the BBQ sauce on the ribs was delicious! And I'm usually not a BBQ person, so take it from me, it was good. We were going to get the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream for desert, they have those at Black Angus too and I know they are so good, but we were way too full. Everything we got, iced tea, a 25 oz. beer, and that meal, cost about $42. We tipped $12 so spent $54. Not too bad for a place like this with some good food, a good server, and a good atmosphere.

this place blows. service stinks, you will need to set aside at least 2.5 hours if you plan to eat here b/c it will take forever to get your food. the servers rarely come around to check on your table, and seem to be more concerned with talking to each other in the back and off to the side. worst part is the place is filthy. my buddy and his entire family got violently ill, including his toddler son. what a mess this place is, stay away!

This place really does a great job of making you feel like you're cast in a National Lampoon's film that was never released. We were lucky enough to be seated beside a table with a birthday boy (okay, grown man), who the wait staff surprised with their version of the birthday song and special birthday hat (umm...cowboy hat). Surrounded by wagon wheels, lassos, taxidermy and good-ol boys, this is not the place to go for ambiance, unless you prefer hokey. The food was just normal. My boyfriend had the tri-tip w/ fries and ranch beans. The tri-tip was yummy. I had the Dakota chicken (chicken breast smothered in cheese, bacon and mushrooms) w/ fries. My dish was super salty. We didn't have room for dessert because we stuffed our faces with unlimited salad and sourdough bread. Speaking of salad, they could do themselves a favor by making their own croutons or at least buying a premium brand. Sizzler has better croutons. So anyways, 2 meals, 2 sodas and service from America's last 20-something god-fearing virgin cost us $55 including a 20% tip. If you try this place, go in costume and just make the most of it.

Just got back from Cattlemen's. Not that great today!! Everything was great untill I got my steak. It was cold and the garlic fries were also cold!!! Couldn't belive it..but the server was good about taking it back and warming it up....still not hot!!! Lost my appetite from being pissed!!! Also my aunt and son's steak was still moooing!! Had to send those back..unbelievable! Then the manager came and comped me two dinners and gave me a free diner on our next visit. Me and my family just moved up from Socal..maybe expecting something like Steer and Stein! Maybe bad day for cooks? Place was packed..must be good or people dont know what a good steak tastes like? We will try again in future.

One would think that you would love steak and lobster at a famous steakhouse. Wrong. Lobster was horrible. It was way over cooked. And my wife ordered a steak medium well and it was rear. and when you send a meal back since when do the just throw a cut up steak back into a pan and cook it a little bit longer. You are supposed to re make the plate.

We stopped in for happy hour, which is always easy on the wallet. We got the blue cheese toast, mac and cheese, and the steak nachos. Servings were plentiful, but then again, it's a steakhouse, so everything is plentiful here. We washed down all this goodness with raspberry lemon drops made with chambord black liquor and fresh lemon. The appetizers were ok (blue cheese toast being the best of the bunch), but the cocktail was delicious. Definitely worth coming in just for that if you like sweet drinks. We got 4 cocktails and the above mentioned dishes, and spent about $30. Not too shabby. Service was good too.

Find a different steak house, they don't know how to cook them here. I think they are in a hurry to get them out and keep the money flowing. Overpriced and we had to send our steaks back twice till they got it sort of right, not everyone likes rare meat. Asked for medium well and well, and the first time it came back after like 2 minutes still red as can be. It was not even that flavorful (and I tried it 3 ways rare, medium rare and sort of medium well...) compared to other steakhouses nearby.

  • Tiffaney L.

I came here a few times in college when they had their infamous dollar Mondays. Even though I'm not a huge meat lover (I have been told that I'm an incredibly lazy eater), I still had a great time. It's big enough for large groups, has quick service, and most importantly easy to eat food. If my memory serves me right, I usually have about 3 before I'm done, but it's 3 glorious ribs later. It's off the 80, but you can't miss it. It's a huge building with CATTLEMEN'S on top. So grab your meat loving friends, pack a car, and go.

Stopped by here on the way to Reno/Tahoe just to avoid sitting in traffic. We ordered the ribs and lamb shank. All were pretty tasty and American-portion sized (AKA large & obesity-inducing size). All the meals came with a salad with your choice of salad dressing. The salad was SUPER fresh, especially the tomatoes. So juicy! It also came with a baked potatoes with all the fixings. I'm pretty sure that was the item that pushed me over the edge. The ribs were crispy, but meat fell off the bone quite nicely. The lamb shank was pretty good, can't complain. I would say the food here is pretty good, but probably not mouth-watering amazing. I'm not sure if it's just my crappy sense of direction, but I got lost trying to find my way from the bathroom back to the table. Everything in this restaurants look the same. #embarassing

Awesome service and atmosphere! Justin helped us out for the evening and he was really outgoing. Went there for my cousin's birthday. I had bacon wrapped shrimp and a legendary margarita (a bit strong). The food was great!

  • George T.

Well, things were really a lot better in the past, but everything changes. Still, this is a standard-bearer, especially in the area. The atmosphere is a classic country steakhouse, although maybe more "rough western" than you might think for California. Get the meats done as rare as you can handle it: the charcoal flavor gets really heavy.

Cattlemens is a great steakhouse. One of the best places to eat in town. I have never had a problem with their steaks not being cooked correctly, and the staff is always nice and willing to accommodate requests. They have weekday specials, which are always great deals. I've tried most of their appetizers and have never been disappointed. They do her crowded on the weekends, but no more than expected for a nice restaurant. The bar is open seating, so snag a spot for full menu and the same great service as the restaurant.

On a Saturday evening, my family and i celebrated my brother in laws birthday. I ordered Pete's special, and shared some garlic fries and the fried apple pie. - Limited parking. come early or expect to park on the sides. - Make reservations. We called yesterday to make reservations at 5 and we're so glad we did bc the wait for a table was riDIC! lol. ridiculous... - They put your name a chart board, along with others, near the hostess, wishing you a happy birthday :) - Christmas in full effect! All of Santa's reindeers won't be pulling his sled. Their heads on the wall. ouch. haha - Petes special: $16. Probably one of the cheapest on the menu. 10oz sirlion. Comes with a complementary drink. - Steak was perfect. Way better than Texas Roadhouse. Come for the Steak, not the peanuts. Perfectly grilled and pink in the middle. Evenly distributed medium steak - Honorary bday guests get a cowboy hat and an ice cream dessert! YEE HAW! - Garlic fries had their garlic on the bottom. fail. haha. - Must end the meal with the fried apple pie! Remember home run? LOL. - Best steakhouse. Better than Black Angus IMHO. haha. IMHO...reserved for special occasions unless you make da money man.

We usually order one of their fantastic appetizers like shrimp cocktail or shrimp wrapped in bacon, so I don't really want a full meal after that. Cattlemens is one of the few places where you can still order a meal and split it without getting charged an additional fare. Besides being able to share at no extra cost, they provide a salad and bread that is unlimited. They also serve beans with most of their meals. The bread is SOOOOO good. We love the food here. One time the steak was cooked a little too much, but they immediately fixed it. Very happy with the service too!

    (5)
  • Adam G.

It's pretty good. Food is usually spot-on every time I've visited. Sometimes the service is lacking and they could do with a better selection of beer. They never have craft beer on tap and the best beer they carry is usually mid-par like Anchor Steam or Sierra Nevada. Also a bit pricey compared to other steak joints in the valley. I hate the baked beans they serve.... too much cinnamon or nutmeg or something, not sure what it is. Decor is pretty tacky as well. We are in Dixon often and this is pretty much the best place to eat so we will probably be there more in the future.

This place is great for carnivores! They have a whole selection of meat orders that includes: prime rib, T-bone steak, fillet mignon, and etc. For a American steakhouse, they serve big portions with prices that are unbeatable. The location is so convenient because it is just off the freeway. I went here because I heard about their dollar rib night on Mondays! They don't have it anymore, but I still ordered their ribs because it was only $2 per rib. Their beef ribs are huge and meaty! The texture of their beef ribs were tender, seasoned well with black pepper, and smothered with barbecue sauce! My friend, who I went with, asked for the barbecue sauce off and they gladly obliged. Having the sauce off, the beef ribs were more peppered. I set my expectation on the flavor of the beef ribs pretty low because I thought that since I am not paying much for the quality of the ribs, it shouldn't be great. However, the overall taste of the beef ribs was a bit above average for me because the price of what I paid for was simply unbeatable in terms of the big portion and good flavor of what I received.

Worst birthday meal ever!!! How hard is it to cook a medium rare steak? It comes out rare - the manager wants to argue with me that a purple middle is medium rare - then they bring it back well done. We asked for a chocolate chip cookie and they bring a snicker doodle. WTF!!!

  • Paul G.

I have had only one bad experience here, and that was when a bunch of the cooks called in sick. I guess management and staff had a little disagreement that night, other than that I have always enjoyed this place. I just wish they would open up for lunch on the weekends. The steaks are all cooked to order, I recommend the twice baked potato, and I absolutely love the unlimited salad, even though that is a filler, and can hinder you from finishing your steak.

This place is nearby where we were planning to be for Xmas. I ordered 48 hours ahead of time to get three appetizers (catering) for our party. We pull up at the exact time they gave us, and they had no record of our order. So, they tell us to wait and they made it quickly (20 mins). It was Xmas eve so I totally understand if it's busy!! But I noticed two other people waiting who had issues with their orders. I also had to tell them the specifics of my order because it also contained a dinner of shrimp. She didn't really bother asking me for specifics. She acted bothered I even came up to say something. Finally we get the food but they forgot the dinner. We wait more. The dinner was not what we ordered and we noticed after we were already gone. We overheard the front hostess saying she couldn't take it anymore!! My boyfriend asked them to give us a break on cost for having this issue they basically said nothing and the manager just ran away. I asked my family about this place because it's nearby, they have lived there for ions, yet no one goes there. They said they had bad service a couple times. I would love to come back soon and have a great experience. I totally understand this could be just a growing pain of the place..

Came here a couple of times. Usually get the New York Strip and it always turns out great. Their barbecue sauce on the tables is great. If you are really hungry, or just want to try and one up your friends, get the porterhouse. The place is cattle themed and pretty dim but not too dim on the inside. They start you off with some bread and butter, and then you can get a house salad, one side, and a little thing of beans with your order.

Ok I get it...this is supposed to look like a Texas steakhouse (I guess). However, it looks very old and dated. The food was good, but overpriced. The service was WONDERFUL!

I always go here for the $2 ribs on Monday night! Sometimes, the ribs are more meaty and sometimes, they are less meaty but for only $2 per rib (it takes me about 6 ribs to get full), it is still a pretty good deal. Also , add onthe loaded potato skins and you wont regret it.

Wow had a great night! Driving up from San Jo every month I would pass by Cattlemens and dismiss it as a low brow, trucker pit stop for some decent-but-surely-disappointing steak. My GF and I got bored of the Davis scene and decided to venture out of Davis for our anniversary dinner. Why she chose Cattlemens, I do not know but hey a happy wife= a happy life am I right? Anyways, we arrived on a Thursday night at like 6:30pm and after bypassing one too many Romney 2012 bumper stickers, entered what seemed like a comfortable busy restaurant. We were seated in like 2 minutes, but if you come on a Friday or weekend night, be sure to make reservations, as a Thursday night was pretty hoppin'. After looking at the menu it was evident that we were going to get the "Dinner for two" which included an Appetizer, 2 Entrees, and 2 desserts for something like 56 bucks. Entrees come with unlimited salad, bread, a potato and beans. Between the two of us, we ordered the stuffed mushrooms, rib eye, steak and shrimp scampi, a pizooki thing, and the deep fried apple pie. What can I say? All the food was simple, yet delicious. Well cooked/ seasoned and full of flavor. Even though the steak and shrimp scampi was good, don't get it-- the rib eye or filet mignon would be a much better choice. Our waitress was very nice. She forgot to put in our order (which is fine, everyone makes mistakes) but apologized profusely for it and gave us free dessert. When we told her it was our anniversary, she gave us our appetizer for free too! All in all we left in high spirits and incredibly full with leftovers. I will definitely be coming back

My review is just for $1 rib nights on Monday! AHH TOO DELICIOUS AND CHEAP. I am definitely going back. It's first come first serve, so try to go with a smaller party, or else you will be waiting for a very long time. I got 5 ribs, but was full after 4. (Probably because I got a loaf of bread for only $1!)

  • Karina S.

This is not the steakhouse we used to enjoy. The service is not good anymore. The waitress brought our appetizer after the entree came. When I said to take it back since we were eating our entrees, and take it off the bill, she said that wasn't possible. I had to talk to the manager to make it right. The prime rib was flavorless, the rib eye was under par. Not worth the drive. We will not be going back!

Eating out can be challenging when you have Celiac's. I have got to hand it to Cattleman's. They have a gluten-free menu, with descriptions, pricing, and if something on a dish needs to be avoided, it's stated. All their salad dressings are gluten-free. There are even gluten free appetizers and dessert (although slight cross-contamination issue - BUT they let you know that on a disclaimer)!!! The servers seem knowledgeable in regards to Celiac and gluten-free issues and most importantly, they don't make you feel like you're being difficult by having to order differently. So many servers, and managers, take offense to being asked about their menu or requesting changes, even though you have a food allergy. The food was cooked perfectly. The staff, again, did a great job. Will definitely be returning!

This place had awesome food and awesome service! If I could give one tip to making this place more enjoyable to all people I would ask to please please please update your "gluten sensitive" menu to a "Gluten Free" menu and educate your staff a little on the dangers of serving customers with Celiac Disease gluten food. It's not just a "health choice" it's a sickness. I ate off the "gluten sensitive" menu that hasn't been updated since 2013 and today have been stuck on the couch sick all day! If this business doesn't want to participate in this kind of service please educate your staff to tell patrons who ask for a "Gluten Free" menu if they are "Gluten Intolerant, Celiac, or have Crohns Disease" that your establishment does not support a 100% gluten free diet so they do not have to get sick. They can go to another place to eat. Thank you for your time!! -Shay

Cattleman's is a family favorite. The food is a great deal at a reasonable price. It is not a place for a foodie as it is simple menu that is your classic steakhouse. We love to bring the kids to this place. It is a local staple. Try the mushroom appetizer.

Overview: At a midpoint between Vacaville and Sacramento sits this fabulous steakhouse nestled in the valley all by its lonely....needless to say if it existed anywhere near one of the following franchises it would put them to shame (my opinion). Its sad that Outback, Texas Roadhouse, and Tahoe Joe do not satisfy the tastebuds of a meat eater as myself and their quality and preperation of meat does not suffice. Loving my meat juicy medium-well to pinkish, ive had to send several steaks back on several different dining outings at Tahoe Joe. Outback's steak...OMG...um dry as the Sacramento heat. Texas Roadhouse, do us both a favor, please dont get the ribs there. Oh and the last time i went to Texas Roadhouse the one along side of Highway 80 (Manuel Campos) in Fairfield, they told me they ran out of steak after i asked for extra steak for my steak salad....Uh youre a steak house, how do you run out of steak.....????? Likes: Cattemens has the biggest steaks ive seen. Please, if you want a normal size steak then go to Outback. I dont settle for less at Cattlemens: 2-lbs porter house steaks, 2-lbs T-bone steaks...its all in the food chain my friends! Servers: uh Katie, petite blonde, young lady, extremely nice, and friendly. All the staff that have waited on us have been very freindly. If you go into a place and you have an attitude, dont expect people to be nice to you. Do unto others.....you know the rest! The bread, so good. Oven baked sour dough and smooth butter + all you can eat BREAD???!! :) Deep fried apple pie and vanilla ice cream???!! So good, i could go on forever! Dislikes: With all that $$ the wife and i pay for those steaks they could upgrade their carpet. with so many spilled alcoholic drinks my nose tends to pick up on these faint unwanted smells. Observations: They could spend a little more time cleaning some areas of this place. It is a little dark on the inside. if you dont like cigarette smoke dont wait outside to be seated at your table. get one of those flashy things that buzz and wait on the inside. Final Words: Next time you get a taste for some steak then give it a try. Til next time my friends......

The sourdough bread and butter is great but that's only the appetizer. The sirloin stake was salty when it came out although it was medium cooked as I requested. I ordered a mojito which was pretty good the second one I ordered came in a smaller glass and the last one was complete syrup which I left and didn't drink. The food over all was okay but not amazing and the meat is from corn fed cows not grass fed.

Made a reservation for 6:30 p.m. I was told at the front it would be just a few minutes. After waiting for nearly 30 minutes, we were finally seated. When we asked why it took 30 minutes to be seated and what they were going to do to make us happy, the hostess said sorry. We saw 2 managers standing visiting for the nearly 30 minutes we were waiting. We like the food but if management can't manage then I'll take my business elsewhere where a reservation actually means something.

I cannot believe we didn't find this place last year! It was such a tasty meal that I didn't even leave room for dessert! We ordered the artichoke cheese dip that came out with bread for us to dip with. It was heavenly, but I had to try and limit myself so I could save room for meat. Boyfriend ordered the 24oz bone-in and I ordered the 9oz prime rib. Both cuts were well cooked and I enjoyed mine immensely, even though I didn't finish. We also ordered corn on the cob and garlic fries as the sides and those were delicious too! Careful with the garlic fries - they're very garlicky and will stink up a room (or your mouth) like no other! But delicious anyway! (And service was great too!) I'd definitely want to go back and try a leaner cut next time!

Love this place! Great place for steaks and any other kind of meat. I don't know why but I love coming here. We are always greeted with such enthusiasm. Once we had to wait an extra 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. They did not hesitate at all to compensate with complimentary appetizers! On my recent visit we got the dinner for two. We just had the most fantastic service at Cattlemens. JJ, the bartender, was so friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him. When my steak arrived he said I want to wait until you cut into it, I don't think it's med. rare. He was correct and before I could say another word, it was whisked away for a do-over. A second steak was sent out and again he said, this doesn't look right either. Again, he whisked it away. When the third steak arrived it was perfect! JJ stayed to make sure I was pleased. He left us to eat our meal and a server, Shelby, was putting glasses away and said "Your steak right this time?" I said it was perfect and she expressed her relief. She said I just want to make sure you guys are happy. After finishing my meal, I asked to speak to the Manager, Abby, I explained everything that took place and how fantastic both JJ and Shelby were and how much we appreciated the good service. We are grateful for the time and attention each staff member gave us. We will definitely be back!

Wednesday night, my wife and I and another couple, tried Cattlemens. Kicked myself for not doing this much, much sooner. Everything was great. Bar server was Bobby and food server, Jessie. Both were terrific, congenial, attentive and professional. Also, kudos to hostesses Alex and Peyton for their engaging personalities. Jessie recommended baby back pork ribs. I ordered the big slab. OMG, delicious. Other orders were two sirloin steak specials and filet Mignon. They raved about the meal, the bread, the salad. We split the pizza chocolate cookie with 2 big scoops of ice cream and whip cream. So good!! Highly recommend this friendly, reasonably priced, kickass steakhouse. BTW, the menu is extensive if meat is not your deal. Go, you'll be happy you did

The only time I've ever started to become interested in football, other than the Super Bowl, is after I came to Davis. That's because when football season starts, Cattlemens' $1 ribs begin. Seating is pretty limited, because it does get packed. This place is a really great restaurant, with great meat, but I only go for the ribs. The ribs are big, but the amount of meat on them is okay. I usually get 5 and I am satisfied. Sometimes I order 7 or 8 and take a few home. If you take more than 2 or 3 they will charge you $2 for a "to-go" fee. This place is great to go, but you have to go a little earlier if you want decent seating. Also they have a limited number of ribs, so if you get there late, they might run out!

Cattlemen's was opened with cowboys in mind. What do they want? BEEF. BIG PORTIONS. NOW. Little tip: Stop by Costco in Vacaville on your way over to buy the Cattlemen's gift cards ($100 for $80). Now you can feel less guilty gorging on 18 oz of succulent prime rib! (At least I did!) I'm usually a rib eye kinda gal, and they do them justice here, but that prime rib I had kinda blew me away. Very tender and juicy with a well-seasoned crust and just enough fat to keep things interesting. I'm kinda debating whether I should ask for it rare next time since they serve it on a hot skillet tableside and it cooks a bit more as you work through it. Sides are basic but I like that you can upgrade to garlic fries, pecan-studded sweet potato or twice-baked potato for two bucks. Their adult-version of mac & cheese is creamy although any delicate cheese flavor is quickly and heavily masked by the rosemary crumb topping. If more than a pound of meat doesn't fill you up adequately, their AYCE salad, sourdough bread and baked beans do an excellent job in filling in alllll the nooks and crannies.

This steakhouse is usually my favorite place to go with my girlfriend, we go there about twice a month and it's always been such a great experience, the service is great and the good is impeccable. Except for the last two times we've gone, the last two times we've been led to our table by the same guy "Bret" who was very rude and unprofessional, tossing the menus on the table and giving me and especially my girlfriend a hostile dirty look, both times, making us very uncomfortable and non-welcome. It's a shock to see something like that happening at a great place, I hope management does something about it. Also the last time we went we ordered a WELL-Done sirloin and ended up getting a medium done which I couldn't eat, and about 25% of that sirloin was Fat. I'm not sure whats going on with the place but I hope it gets back on it's feet soon, it'd be a shame if the quality and service keeps dropping.

I've can't even begin to describe how long I've been wanting to try Cattlemens. I remember seeing it off 101 in Petaluma but haven't made the effort of driving to the North Bay. However, most recently I was coming back from a weekend trip to Reno and it was a perfect opportunity to try some Cattlemens and see if its as good as it seems. The most basic comparison would be Texas Roadhouse. As you enter Cattlemens, there's a large bar area stretching from one end to the other. We made it in with about 10 minutes before happy hour was to end, so we had ourselves some $1 Pabst. We enjoyed a few glasses of PBT while we waited for our table, which wasn't longer than 10-15 minutes. After being seated, we took a few minutes to look over the menu and our server came over. I don't remember his name, but he was friendly, engaging, and would always check up on us. I settled on the Steak and Shrimp Scampi under the Beef & Reef combos. The $20 entree included an 8oz. sirloin with six jumbo shrimp sauteed in a creamy scampi butter. The steak house was sure to stuff us with plenty of bread and butter as we enjoyed our $1 Pabst. The food order took about 20 minutes which was appropriate, especially with the dinner rush. My steak entree came with all the "fixings" which included an all-you-can-eat salad, beans, and your choice of a baked potato, mashed potatoes, french fries, or rice. The salad was good with the house vinaigrette dressing. However, the steak and shrimp was nothing spectacular and a little too buttery for my taste. I do admit that the salad and baked potato were tasty, but I was expecting a delicious steak and was left disappointed. I do wish I would of looked over the menu more closely, as I would of ordered a New York Steak or the BBQ Ribs. Nevertheless, I'm open to giving Cattlemens another chance, especially with the Happy Hour menu and the $1 Pabst. Also, service was top-notch from the moment we walked in, to the bar, to our server, which is rare at restaurants these days. Ambiance: 3 Stars (out of 5) Food: 3 Stars (out of 5) Service: 4 Stars (out of 5) Price: $$ Overall: 3 Stars (out of 5)

Yeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw YELPERS! Cattlemens Restaurants!!!! All I was missing was my cowboy boots, big ol' belt, and hat!!! Lmao!!! Not my style of dining decor but it sure did fit the same of the place. The food was good and we wanted to try something something different on the drive to Sacramento from San Francisco so Cattlemens it was!!! My friend and I chose the original dinner for two: 56.98... Now, with the dinner for two deal you get to chose 1 of 4 appetizers, 2 of 6 entrees, and 2 desserts!!! Yes two DESSERTS, shut the front door! It was tons of food, my gosh!!! So for our 1 appetizer, we chose the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail... Tasty, not bad, not amazing either. For our entrees, I picked the Grilled Salmon very tasty and plump, thought they had brought me chicken by mistake, they assured me if was fish LOL and my friend chose the 9.oz Prime Rib which he said was a little overcooked for his medium request but seasoned very well and he finished completely. For our two desserts... Drum roll... We chose the Grand Canyon Cheesecake, SO HUGE!!! Nothing special than your normal cheesecake from the Cheesecake factory however about 3 times in size so if you love cheesecake dive on in! And... We also chose the deep fried apple pie... Oh S$#^ imagine this... Apple pie filling wrapped in pie crust and then fried crispy and put in front of you piping hot with big dollop of vanilla ice cream and then drizzled with caramel sauce Ooooh my!!! The highlight of the night was that Apple pie for sure. We also both had the legendary margarita which came with a shaker for us to each take home :) 4 stars baby!!!

The best prime rib I've ever had. The $29 prime rib here blows away the $70 prime rib at The Stinkin Rose in San Francisco.

lets face it people, the meat from this place is from another planet, Most likely cattle planet far away from the milky way, the meat here is so tender and tasty that you would be thinking u making love to a cow, I recommend this place for all the meat fantasy pleasures.

Driving along I-80 West, you see a huge U.S. flag and the neon Cattlemens sign. What looks like a barn from the outside is actually a restaurant inside. This is usually my go to spot for meat when I attended Davis. You get a lot of food with your order. Bread was soft and warm. Salad was fresh and on point. The ribs were very good especially with their BBQ sauce. Great with their customer service. They also have a cool bar/saloon. I will be back!

I'm being 1 star extra generous because of Vanessa - our bar server! I have 4 years of Bartending and food service under my belt and I received the type of service is provide my clients with! The food was solid 4 stars, fresh, hot, tasty - my test is French onion soup - lots of places over salt it inexcusably, this one was good ;). We'd come again!! Thank you, Vanessa!!!

I still can't believe we ordered 90 ribs for 6 people. I posted pics. It looks ridiculous. Ordering 15 ribs a person was pretty fail. That night, we found the average limit to be about ~8 ribs a person (less for girls and a little more for guys if you're a big eater). Sigh, oh dollar rib night...this is what you do to us.

Had a wonderful dinner with my hubby. The waitstaff was very attentive and nice. Had one of my favorites "The Chopper" and it was cooked to perfection. Their meals are large enough that I was able to take home leftovers. Love it when that happens.

Was heading back from Tahoe and stopped in Dixon to eat here for dinner. Made a reservation and was seated pretty quickly even though the place was busy. Pretty good experience overall, quick and friendly service, decent food and reasonable price. I had the teriyaki steak with mash potatoes. The steak was marinated well, had good flavor and the mash potatoes were buttery and rich. Also got salad, some warn sourdough bread and kettle beans with my meal. Definitely a full meal. Also got to try the Peter Pan cookie (which is basically a pizookie) which was yummy also. Would definitely recommend this place for family dinners or a bday but would advise to make a reservation in advance. Not bad overall for a steakhouse and they also have a small selection of chicken dishes as well.

Portions are really big here. First time I came here was many years ago when they had dollar rib night on Mondays. I am not sure if they still do such a deal but over all food is good and hits the spot when craving meat. The wait wasn't too bad and food didn't take very long to come.

My wife and I went there about 3 months ago for dinner and a couple drinks. We sat in the bar area and waited about 5 minutes before anyone came to greet us. I ordered a beer, wine for my wife, then we waited 15 more minutes for those drinks before I noticed the bartender talking with some other waiter and our waitress stacking clean plates over in the corner. We promptly left. So, after that time we decided to give it another try. Last night we went in, sat down in the bar, and waited. What I assume was our waitress was talking with the host. We waited. The table behind us tried to order drinks from the bar but were refused because the bartender "didn't have their tab." Fifteen minutes after we got there without even being acknowledged, we left again. That will be the last time we ever set foot in there.

Make reservations but the food and wait is worth it! Even the salad tastes good. I usually order the T-bone and now they feature Harris Ranch beef. We had purchased a special Cattlemen's T-shirt and inadvertently left it at the table. Buying the shirt allows our children to eat for free until they are 12! What a deal! So we called while on the freeway (hands free of course) and requested to have them send us the shirt. They obliged and within 48 hours the shirt was delivered to my house. Now that's service...we've been patrons of this establishment for about 20 years. They just affirmed their good nature and personalized service (this was evening of 9-25-12). Kudos!

Hmm...what to say? Our server was sweet, but that couldn't save this dining experience from being one of my worst in quite some time. And it started about 2.5 hours before my arrival... I had called earlier to ask if Cattlemen's offered any vegetarian options. The young lady who answered had to place me on hold to "check in the back". When she returned to the call, she told me that there were lots of vegetarian options, and ran off a list that included...CHICKEN salad. I advised her that I was inquiring about vegetarian options, to which she said that she had just given then to me. I told her that vegetarians do not eat meat. She seemed confused. I gently reminded her that chicken is meat. Her reply to me? "Well, that's what's on the vegetarian part of the menu". Ok, sweetheart, ok. That being said, I still ended up going, and of course there is NO vegetarian part of the menu. There is a VEGGIES list, though. With chicken salad. Hmm...our order ends up taking almost exactly one hour to get out to us, and my mother's steak was not cooked as ordered. When the manager came out to apologize, apparently my squash wasn't prepared well, either. Weird, because I hadn't complained about it. Anyway, the server was great, the overall experience was not. And the salad was primarily croutons, to add one more complaint.

AHHHHHH CATTLEMENS... a special place in my heart is reserved for you and yours! Some 16 years ago my husband took me here for our first date, he fell in love with a girl who eats steak and beans... screw the salad (ok, I had salad too) and the rest was history.... ok not really. The rest wasn't history, it took me awhile to decide if i was ready for the man in a truck and plaid taking me out to eat steak. So when I finally realized how freakin amazing he was, we went to CATTLEMENS again! And we keep going, even though we now live 45 or so minutes away. My girlfriends and I eat here a few times a year... we head in on WED NIGHT for the $9.99 steak dinner and ALL WINES HALF PRICE by the bottle (yes it gets a little rowdy and we call this event bitches and beef). The staff has always been very helpful and attentive, never had a bad server. The meat is always cook to perfection and this women loves her meat! I will be going back in 2 weeks... I am looking forward to my dinner date with the girls! OH and try the buffalo wing steak bites... its buffalo wings and steak chunks all mixed together in BBQ buffalo sauce... YUMMY!!!

It would be 4-stars if I was not there with the waitress. I normally order Tri-tip, baby pork back rib, and prime rib. Their food is very good with reasonable price. The downside was the service. I knew that may be a very busy time as it's Friday evening. But it 's not an excuse to give me very bad impression. The waitress come and picked up the plates, before we got into entree. She dropped a big piece of food onto me. I thought she did not notice it and never apologized. Water refilling man was not often stop by our table and we need to call him many times. And at the end, they ended up charging me more than what I wrote down in the bill. I knew that I may give a low tip, but with that kind of service I could not give them more.

I haven't gone to Cattlemens in YEARS. It was good. I had the Monday Night Prime Rib Special. Mash was great. The service was very good. I feel that it might be one of their best attributes. The place is a bit dark though. The one change I would recommend is to not serve the food on aluminum plates. I don't like using a knife on metal plates and it gives the food a "metal" flavor. Please serve on a warmed plate, not metal. Next time I will tell the server that.

Truly is the BEST steak house! Their burgers are GREAT too. A great place to have family dinners and it's not disruptive like Texas Roadhouse. You can actually enjoy your meal and hear your conversation ( unless you go there on weekend).

I can honestly say that I've been raised on cattlemen's and my dad's baby back ribs. No other restaurants can compare to cattlemen's and taste anything close to my dad's home cooked ribs! My family and I have been going to this place for celebrations, get togethers and just family dinners. We've never been disappointed in the last 13 years we've gone there. The food is plenty, although every time we've gone I've only ordered a full rack of baby back ribs (I'll never pass up ribs from cattlemen's or my dad's home cooked in the world!). Their ribs are literally "fall off the bone" delicious! And not to forget, their baked potato is just as good too! There are two different types of barbecue sauces they have: one is actaully a cattlemen brand sauce, which is really tangy, and a regular sauce. Either way it's all delicious! Don't forget to pick up a tumbleweed while you're there as well!

Kind of hard to access this place, make sure you don't go onto the freeway by accident. Mostly spent my time at the bar which was great. Our bartender was a bright, friendly young lady. It was a great time. We ordered a small appetizer of their potato skins; which comes as two halves of a rather large potato.

When we want a great steak, no matter how much we could pay, we always drive to a Cattlemans. I usually order a ribeye rare and never a bad piece of meat. The staff is always supper friendly and call you by name...after they ask. The sides and deserts are always great too not to mention the family style salad. We have been going to Cattlemans for decades and never a bad meal.

Went here on a biz dinner with about 15 of us. Amazed at the service and the degree of service we received. They start you out with bringing out sourdough bread and butter. Very nice. The meal is well presented and served at just the right temperature. I had the steak and shrimp combo. All cooked to perfection and the baked spud was spot on. One member of the party had the 20 OZ. cowboy steak. He ate about half then pleaded for two of us to kill it off. WOW! What flavor (almost wish I had ordered that!). This is the type of place that does things right and it shows (the place was packed and looking at the meals on the other tables, they do many things right). If in the area again, I would go back.

I hate all the dead things on the walls and I'm not a country music fan by any stretch of the imagination, so the simple fact that I put up with those things says a lot about the food and the service. We've been going to Cattlemen's for 3 years, usually for birthdays, and I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there. The worst thing that's happened is the server forgetting to bring A-1 sauce to the table, but he was back with it in less than 30 seconds. I usually get the Pete's Special, but the guys get the ribs and big steaks, and they both rave about the ribs and how good the T-bone is. For 3 people we tend to rack up a bill over $100, but we get *a lot* of food for that. And go on Tuesdays when the bar drink special is a Long Island Tea. Holy carp, they make a good Long Island. It doesn't taste overpowering, but after 2, when you get up, you'll know you've been drinking. If you see me there, go ahead and point and laugh. I'm a stupid drunk ;)

Excellent atmosphere, excellent steaks, great service and all around happy and filling experience eating there. Everytime I travel to Sacramento, I have to stop here for lunch or dinner. My favorite dish is the rib eye steak, with two sides, unlimited salad and bread. Once, I had the beef rib platter and it looked like the rack of ribs that tipped over the car in the "Flintstones" cartoon, but though intimidating, all the prime rib meat off the bone was delicious! I've been to this Cattlemens the most, and visited Livermore and Roseville's, and the experience has been the same and that's why I tend to go to this steakhouse chain instead of the others.

This review, is soley for the Dixon location of Cattlemens. My friends and I had just finished a long day of moving, and decided we really wanted steak for dinner, and decided to make a mini-road trip out of it, and decided on Cattlmens. Let's start with the food, it was good, my steak wasn't cooked to my desire, but it was good none the less. Our waiter was somewhat attentive to our needs, and checked in periodically, but like any restaurant, the server always seems to bother you when you don't need them, but the minute your drink is empty, or you need something they are no where to be found. We all ordered the same entree, with the excpetion of one friend who decided to go for the 5lb sheriff, or I believe it's called that. To our disappointment, it was mostly bone, and fat, but it still tasted good. So now to the reason for such a low rating. A good dinner has to be finished off with a good dessert. To my surprise, Cattlmens has a dessert trolley, to help you see what the dessert looks like which I prefer over a menu. We each made our choices, with my friend disclosing, that she is highly allergice to peanuts, and wants to make sure that there are no nuts in the dessert, the serve, assured us that there weren't. We recieved our desserts, and within two minutes of eating it, my friend started to spit out her food, and examined it, and found a walnut in it, she immediately went to the bathroom, while two of us stayed behind and asked oru server to get the manager. Now, if I was the server, I would take this as a serious matter, even if it was just a little piece of the walnut, and I would make it my priority to find the manager and send him/her to the table, not the case here, we had to ask the waiter 3 times, and then ended up having to go to the hostess desk to ask for the manager, in the mean time, they had already called 911, and we were outside when they arrived, they examined her, and determined that she's okay, which she agreed. All the while, the kitchen manager and another server, stood outside and stared us down, then went back in. Not once during the whole ordeal did they come up to us to see if everything was okay. We went back in to speak to the manager, but were told to speak to the kitchen manager which we did, we explained what had happened, and the manager said, that they do not make the cookies for the dessert on the premises, that it's premade, and sent to them, so there is a chance of coming in contact with peanuts, which the server never disclosed to us. This of course brought up a whole other problem, but long story short, the food was good, the service adequate, but their response, and concern in what could have been an emergency, was far from satisfactory. The general manager, did call me a couple days later, and was very upset with what had happened, and apologized. I could go on and on about what happened that night, but we each have our own perspective of how thing's happened, and this is how we saw it, and what we dealt with, it's not really a review to deflect people from going, but hopefully it will bring to people's attention the importance of making sure a food allergy is taken seriously. It's unfortunate, that one little incident changed our view of this place. A little concern and customer service goes a long way.

Monday's 2 dollar rib night hell ya! I do miss it when it was $1.00 Setting: Big place with option of sitting at the Bar or at a table. Dish: 10 $2.00 ribs + Garlic Fries The Ribs are pretty damn big! I love getting my fingers smothered in sauce and face plant into the ribs. The ribs are about as long as a forearm well maybe a little shorter if you don't count the bone. the ribs have improved. I remember my first experience here freshman year of Davis which was 4 years ago (damn im old) and I thought the ribs where very dry and not that good and didn't see why people liked going here. Now (4 years later) I would have to say that it has been a big improvement on their part. Garlic Fries are my best friend and these are pretty good! they actually have REAL garlic in them and not some fake powder crap. I also recommend dipping the fries into the rib sauce. MmmmMmm

Portion sizes are huge! Slightly pricey but expected for a steakhouse. My wife brought me here for a nice steak after my deployment. A little disappointed in the cook as my steak was closer to being alive than cooked medium, but it was a Friday night and they were very busy. Our server was awesome and also a Chiver. I am planning on trying to eat here again at a less busy time. As many people were happily waiting an hour to be seated (we had a reservation) they must be good.

This is actually a great steak house considering that it is located in the middle of nowhere. My friend who currently studies in UC Davis recommended this place to us as one of his favorite steak houses nearby. After some extreme physical activity and not eating for about 10 hours, I was hungry. I mean really hungry. So I ended up ordering their biggest prime rib (believe it was the 2.4 pound steak) and finished it all along with everything else. In terms of taste, it may not be as good as House of Prime Ribs in San Francisco. However, it is not that far off. And service throughout the meal was excellent. Some of their waitresses are very good-looking, so that doesn't hurt either. Overall, real place to visit if you happen to be in that area.

I went to this restaurant some time ago at the suggestion of my hubby's family member. She said it was a very good restaurant but it had new management and she had not been since the switch. Having acquired a fondness for a great rib eye, I was going to try it. I won't get too detailed because my memory is not that great but Cattleman's made a lasting impression on me. Long story short, my rib eye was not good at all. Not only was the steak not seasoned correctly, but the steak itself was bland. Steak lovers know what I am talking about. It was if the cow was never loved or tended. There was no taste.... how can a place accomplish that with a rib eye is beyond me. So no cigar. I have not mentioned any side items because they left such a lasting imprint, I no longer remember what I had. Was not worth the money at all and about 150.00 was spent. Never again and that I cannot stress enough. At the very least, the essence of beef should have been present but alas, it was not. What can you do? (sigh)

Giddy up cowboy! Hehehe. It's got all the cowboy/western memorabilia for their decoration. But this is not my first choice for a great steak or rib place. The steak was a medium size portion and well aged, which I thought was real tasty. But NO marbling (aka FAT). Sometimes it's that little fat that gives a good steak a nice extra taste. Ribs were small and dry. The BBQ sauce was good so I can see why they started bottling it and selling it in the markets. My dinner came with veggies (which were boring & no frills) just boiled and a baked potato. Baked potato was so small, they should be ashamed of themselves. Most steak/rib places I have gone to give these GREAT GIANT baked potatoes. YAY! But not here! :'( It was so small, I couldn't create my "PERFECT BAKED POTATO", bake potato with tons of butter, tons of sour cream, salt & freshly ground pepper topped with a little bits of fresh bacon. All I got was a small amount of sour cream. :'( Oh... I did like their crispy sourdough bread and their basic all you can eat salad.

Great Steak House. I suggest the "Cowboy RibEye". But the last time I ate at a Cattlemens, I had the Prime Rib, "Cattlemen's Cut". THey serve it to you on a sizzling hot platter & dipped in Au Jus. The Grilled shrimp as an appetizer is to die for and their twice baked potato is delicious. I also love the fact that they grill their steaks over an open flame, not on a griddle. I've eaten at the Dixon, Newark and Livermore locations and I rave about Cattlemen's anytime someone asks for a good Steak House.

i am often scared of steakhouses, especially those that are near cows. i recently saw a news special where a slaughterhouse was cited for herding their cows with a bulldozer. i have driven by this place a million times (and its sister in Roseville). in the parking lot were parked a bunch of trucks that surely were driven by carnivores that are familiar with trailer life. the truck next to me had bumper stickers with pictures of crossed out ducks and geese, with endearing phrases such as "if it flies it dies." don't get me wrong. i am a carnivore, and had high expectations for this place. after all, the meat is from the Harris Ranch. my little sister and i were here recently, after a full day of snowboarding. indeed the place has generous portions. they start out with unlimited salad (who wants that at a steakhouse?!?). i had the new york strip with garlic fries. Lil sis had a 9 oz prime rib with a sweet potato. we enjoyed our meals but honestly were left somewhat wanting. i think that the place is a step above Outback Steakhouse, but surely in my humble opinion, not in the upper echelon of steakhouses. dude, i'm too fat to fly so don't shoot me for this review. service was good though, and Sabrina was attentive and friendly. i may give it another shot someday, maybe the Roseville location. i must admit that eating ice and cough drops all day may have dulled the senses.

Just came here yesterday for my friend's 22nd birthday . The bread & salad were pretty good . I got the 14oz Rustler Ribeye Steak which was alright . I got a side of garlic fries which weren't that great . The garlic flavor is too strong and there's too much of it . I heard that Monday nights they have a special where ribs go for $2 each ( what a deal , right ? )so I just had to try it . It was alright but there wasn't all that much meat on it . I think they're premade because when they came out , the ribs weren't hot or warm . The service was pretty good .. our waitress forgot to get us a few things but can't really blame her based on the fact that we had a party of like 23 . The decor of this place is very old school . It's pretty big with like 4 different rooms filled with tables and TVs in each to watch sports .

This is my favorite place for steak in Solano County and I'm not the only one because that place is always damn busy no matter what night you go. If you don't have reservations, expect to wait up to 45 minutes on really busy nights. The meat is always tender and always cooked just the way I like it -medium rare. If you like steak, you won't go wrong with Cattlemens.

    (5)
  • Keri B.

Despite the fact it's a bit overpriced and half the time they just don't understand the phrase medium-rare, I just can't help but love the T-bone here, could it be the salty spice or maybe it's just the giant chunk of aged beef . I even admit I kinda like the decor there's something about dining under a dead deer head makes me feel all cozy in the winter time and like camping in the summer. The bacon wrapped shrimp is something special too.

  • Erik S.

Pricey but I love the porterhouse steak here. They give you all the bread and salad that you want, for free. I've been here dozens of times and when done well, it's as good as any of the best steakhouses in the country. When done poorly, it's only ok. Most of the time it's great. I've always found the service to be outstanding, friendly and competent. I go here whenever I'm around.

cattlemens is the best place to be a MAN and eat a huge steak and bomb ass ribs and the salad and beans are a hit also. i love the food there but the barn look isnt for me.. THE END!

I've only dined at Cattleman's for their happy hour dollar rib special. It's $1 for each meaty beef rib. Order a few of their sides like baked beans or fully loaded baked potatoes and you're all set! Their portions remind you of the flinstones. My only advice.. wear dark clothing!

  • J L.

good rib, alright steak, maybe because i was not too hungry. :P

    (3)
  • Tricia S.

The steaks are nice size, good quality and a little pricey along with it. The service is inconsistent, however. My husband and I have been to dinner a few times here and the decor is like a larger Black Angus. The service was mediocre on a couple of occasions and good on others...the luck of the draw I suppose. Still if I have a hankering for a big Harris Ranch steak, I come here. (Although I think Harris Ranch is head and shoulders better, it's a bit of a drive!)

omg, i still dream about this place. man, we drove all the way to woodlands from sf just to get some mean porterhouse. this is by far the best steakhouse i ever went to. i just love the porterhouse here. i only finished it once. just bring back memories when i was at davis, man i miss this place. man, i crave this place so much!!

i feel like i have to wear jeans, boots and a cowboy hat when i go there, but all good. very casual restaurant. steaks are deeeeeelish! (when cooked correctly) but they never cook my steak correctly!! of all the times i've been there, they have never once cooked my steak the way i asked them to, unless it was after i send the first steak back. i usually ask for a rare steak, hoping they'd cook it medium rare (rare is ok too even!) but at cattlemens they just don't get it. always medium or medium well when i get it. aren't they supposed to be all about steaks? whatever. three stars for the food, took away the two star for service and the damn people not knowing how to cook steaks properly.
