love dos...one of the restaurants I return to religiously for a good meal...(now it isn't really Mexican, more tex mex, be one with that concept and you'll enjoy the food) but their burritos are good...their salads are huge...and they have a great kids meal option!

Dos is a good place to get your Southwestern cravings. I wouldn't consider this as authentic Mexican food. My boyfriend and I usually order the Steak Border Burrito. The steak is tastier than the steak at Guad's. I've also tried the shrimp burrito which has rice, four pieces of shrimp, and a cream sauce. The quality of food is good as the seafood is fresh. The only bad part is that the burritos are soooo tiny!!! It's not filled with a lot of stuffing and meat, so I can easily eat an entire burrito. The salads aren't too good. Although they are a good size, the flavors don't stand out. I've tried the Yucatan Chicken Salad which has chicken breast, black beans, red onion, carrot, sweet peppers, cabbage, and corn. It is served on a flour tortilla with fruit salsa, chipotle cream and tortilla strips. The tortilla gives the salad some crunch, but doesn't help with taste. The food is more expensive compared to the other Mexican restaurants. The noise in the North Davis Dos is also a turn off. I am practically yelling across the table due to the noise.

I can't believe that as many reviews I have written, I forgot to review Dos Coyotes. First of all, I would NOT consider them authentic Mexican. You can categorize Dos as more of a Tex-Mex genre. Now for the review! I LOVE DOS COYOTES! As a fellow UC Davis Aggie Alumni, I have had many nights of over stuffing my belly with their home-fried chips and their wide variety of salsa. Yes, I have JUST eaten their chips and salsa. Please don't lecture me. By the way, their corn salsa is the BEST! I normally get their Border Burrito with steak, steak soft tacos or steak quesadillas. Can you tell I love steak? Mmmm! I order a side of chips since I love to munch on their salsa and chips before I get my "grub" on! Oh yes, their roasted tomato salsa is quite tasty but it has a kick. As sad as this may sound, one of the fondest memories of my stay in Davis was eating at Dos Coyotes. I live a very sad life, but at least my tummy is happy!

5 stars for the green salsa alone. Chicken southwest mild .... smother it with green salsa!!!!! The chicken ceasar salad is also awesome. The shrimp burrito is also great.

Love the decor.....beautiful Southwestern vibe, nice color palette! My kids love the computerized soda fountain. I love the healthful choices!

This place is mediocre. They have awesome burritos and a nice sauce bar that has quite a variety compared to other places. My boyfriend really liked his burrito and my quesadilla was just alright. I couldn't really taste the chiles that was in there? If I had the choice of eating here or a taqueria though, I'd probably end up at a taqueria because of the price.

I'm not gonna lie, I love this place. Firstly, the atmosphere is cute and gives you a cute mexican feel. Then the food is amazing. :) My boyfriend had to Mahi Mahi Burrito, and it was absolutely delcious. I had the Paella Burrito, it had sausage, shrimp, and mahi mahi, and I ate the whole thing, even though I was full about halfway through. It's amazing that I don't go there as often, but I would say it's my favorite Mexican place in Davis for sure. The only thing that upset me the last time I went for a visit was the person who took our order. He seemed like he didn't care and was not very polite. Definitely not a customer service type of person, but the food definitely made up for it.

  • Kevin V.

Border Carnitas Burrito was good! Beans were a little too saucy and tons of rice, but tasted great none the less. Busy during lunch hour though. Nice salsa bar and chips included, as any Mexican joint should have!

  • Alexander M.

Always a great place to get Tex-Mex. My usual is either the Border Burrito or the Navajo nachos. Pretty standard food but the portions are gi-normous. There's always plenty of seating and you can ask for chips and drink refills. Dog friendly, just so long as you sit outside!

Good food with a variety of vegetarian options. Plus, biodegradable "to go" boxes. Neat-o.

Probably the best food in Davis for your money. I can not recommend the Adobe Salad enough, especially if you are someone who doesn't particularly care for tortillas. It is the ultimate southwest salad, period. They also have great fresh fish, delicious meats, and a surprisingly large menu that recently has even embraced the seasons with daily specials. Last time we went they were advertising some extremely low beer prices, while I haven't yet had the opportunity to indulge, I'm definitely looking forward to sitting on their patio and sipping on some low priced cold beer while sampling their dozen or so fresh salsas. Oh, don't forget to get your burrito ranchero style, it rocks.

  • Alisha T.

I really only get one thing here, which is the quesadilla. I don't remember which one specifically, but it's tasty, a good amount of food, and a decent price. I'm not a fan of Tex-Mex, but I do love my quesadillas.

  • Crystal L.

The best mex food I have had in Davis, although I am a bit spoiled since I usually get my mex food from the mission in SF. This place makes some good guac and burritos. It's way more expensive then I usually pay for mex food, but the service is fast. I get mine to go since it's kinda loud in there.

I used to frequent this location ALL the time when I was in undergrad at UC Davis between 1998 and 2002. I just came back here a few days ago and they're still as good as I remember. They've now added and awesome soda machine where you can create your own personal soda formula. Still a fan, I wish they'd have these in San Diego.

  • D F.

Love my Dos! Okay, so it's not "real" Mexican food... more like "California Fresh" Mexican food. But still..... it is fabulous!

  • Megan L.

Only one of my favorite Burritos ever... oon man the ranchero burrito with steak!!!!!!!!!!!!! The salsa is great and they have the mexican cabbage stuff thats great! Plus the servers are always nice and there is always left overs for later!

  • Maggie L.

My housemates and I frequent this location at least once a week, especially when they offered coupons in the school newspaper. I am not a big fan of Mexican food but I love their burritos. My two favorites are the Southwest Burrito with steak and the Mahi Mahi burrito. Their servings are generous and they do not stiff you on the meat. I also enjoy their chips, which are much better than Guad's rock-hard cracker version. They have a wide variety of salsas, which they replenish frequently. I usually get take-out from Dos Coyotes, mostly because this location gets crowded fairly quicky. Their other location, in South Davis, seems bigger and not as busy, so it was a bit more enjoyable dining in there.

First off, I have to comment about all the sub-par ratings that complain that Dos Coyotes is "Americanized" or "Not Authentic" Mexican food. The name of the restaurant is Dos Coyotes BORDER Cafe, as in the US-Mexico border, and thus, it is SOUTHWESTERN food. Its a whole different genre of food people, get over it. Stepping off my soap box, the food here is quite good for fast-fresh food. I usually get some variation of fish tacos or burrito, and they are always great. I've tried a few seasonal specials and those have also been tasty. The salsa bar has a nice selection, and the place is always pretty clean. If you are looking for some good southwestern food, here is the place for you in Davis.

  • Dan D.

Fair prices and grubbin' chow! My friend accidentally bit into my wife's burrito; dos remade it for free. Not their problem but service above and beyond. WAY COOL! I was already a fan. That unnecessary gesture seals the deal. :)

  • Christina H.

I don't know why I never ate here sooner! Perhaps because I was told they over pack your plate with beans. I've eaten here twice and ordered their Santa fe steak nachos both times. They're that good! $7.95 for a huge plate of nachos. I've never been to any taqueria that is so generous on the meat (as in there are actually more than 3 bites worth). Their salsa bar is to die for! there are at least 9 flavors of salsa and each one is absolutely delicious. However, they don't have free chips or even the option of ordering chips on the side. All in all very great mexican restaurant!

  • Betty T.

HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THIS PLACE? it's great. seriously. salsa bar-thing was cool. GREAT tasting southwest burrito. chalk full of goodness -- and the service was great too! really fast; and they didn't mind that we stayed in for a little while longer after they closed. i'm sorry i'm mean, but i knocked off a star because...for the price of one here, i could get a bigger burrito at the guad. =/ i'm a penny-pincher, haha.

  • Jessica H.

The food is ok. I was hoping for more, but this is definitely more of the TexMex type of Mexican food, similar to a Baja Fresh. You get into a line to place your order and they call you number when your food is ready. They have some interesting selections and I would probably be more likely to go here to try something totally different than what you would expect from Mexican food restaurant.

  • Danny Y.

I ordered a southwest burrito with chicken here about 35 minutes ago. I took it to go and destroyed it in my apartment. The burrito was pretty good. I got some pico de gallo at the salsa bar and I really liked that too. The prices are okay. The only problem I had was that my chicken was a somewhat burnt. I would come here again.

    (4)
  • Jillian N.

It's clean and good. What more can you ask for? I only wish it was open later.

    (5)
  • Leslie P.

I ordered the Mahi Mahi burrito for less than $8. The fish was nice and moist. The burrito was huge, and left overs was good for two more meals. The plate came with chips and there was a salsa bar! They offered a small outdoor patio in the front, which is nice to dine at during the summer nights. This is definitely not an authentic Mexican place. It's more of a TexMex.

  • Jen T.

Love this place! I haven't deviated much from getting one of their seafood burritos. This is more unique than Chipotle and sooo good. Unique menu. Good atmosphere. Not a formal sit down place, but not fast food. It's super! I think their tortilla chips are only so-so. Great choice of salsas. Chips are the only thing I've tasted that wasn't what I'd deem excellent there.

  • Ryden T.

This restaurant has made me seriously question the quality of some of my friendships. That none of my friends would deign to tell me that the Santa Fe Nachos are so out of this world speaks volumes about their value as human beings. I've had the nachos here ~8 times and every time they were great, but one of my so called friends said they burnt his one time, so 4 stars to you Dos Coyote!

Here begins the tale of the hairy burrito, some salsa without chips, and some rice without beans. I've been going to this Dos Coyotes regularly for almost 10 years. In the past 6 months (last half of 2012) this place has really gone downhill. The final straw was when I found not one, but three hairs in my food (one long blonde one, one long dark one, and one shorter dark one). It really grossed me out and is the final straw for me and this Dos Coyotes. A few weeks ago they forgot to put chips in my to-go order for an item that includes a side order of chips (mesa taco plate). Next mess-up was a week later when they forgot to put beans in my mesa taco plate to-go order. Of course, by the time I get home with my to-go order I just don't feel like dealing with going back over there to complain about the hairs, forgotten chips, and lack of beans. From what I have experienced the management there is not really interested in hearing complaints about things like missed items or hairs in food. At this point, it's just not worth it to risk another hairy meal or to have to check through all my order before I leave the restaurant. So, I will not be going back, which is too bad. They were great for so many years. The shrimp burrito (without hair) used to be really good and for many years they never messed a single order up.

I found many of their meat items to be extremely overwhelming in terms of oil, and seasoning. The carnitas burrito felt like a cheap knock-off of something from a Taqueria. It was small, felt hollow, the meat was dry like it hadn't been braised long enough (pork shoulder should be tender!), and was over-seasoned and overpriced. The quesadilla was similar: filled with cheese fried meats, then grilled over oil - incredibly overwhelming. However, I did enjoy their fish tacos. The fish tasted very fresh, and the flavors were lively and pleasant. They have an extensive salsa bar, which is a plus, but I wish they served more chips. Final words: steer clear of the meats here, and go for the seafood!

  • Kevin D.

I always go here for the fish burrito. One of the best put together fish burritos I have had. And like some of the other reviews, I am no choosing this place for the best authentic Mexican food, no, that is not what they are about. It's just good food.

A hard review for me. I really like the food here. I have friends that love to eat here - and so by course I eat here quite a lot due to circumstances. That being said - I often don't feel well after I eat here. This shades my review a great deal. That being said - the Cheese Enchilada plate and the Taco plate with fish are both fantastic. And the salsa from their salsa bar is amazing. I love it. The Mahi Mahi burrito is quite good here. I highly recomend the santa fe nachos. It comes with lots of stuff and you can grab several kinds of salsa to go with it. No real waiter service here. You look at the menu quickly and walk up to a counter - often as you are part of a long line of waiting customers. You tell them what you want at a yelling volume because of all the people talking - and then they bring it to your table. They have some decent beer you can chase your food with as well. For flavor - I would give about 4.5 stars. Because I consistently feel unwell after eating here I only give about 3.25 stars. Unfortunately Yelp does not allow for partial stars. If you like Mexican food - I highly recommend you try it here for yourself.

The home of behemoth burritos, the size of a newborn baby! My friend Grace has been raving about this local college joint for days on end. So on our gastro eating trip in the Bay Area, we detoured over to Davis for a quick fix. Grace warned me that the famous burritos are filling and that it'll be the only meal I'll ever eat for the rest of the day. I then decided to starve my poor tapeworm Cedric, so that he'll be able to take the massive amounts of meat, rice, & beans coming his way. As we reached Dos Coyotes, we headed straight to the counter and ordered: 1 CHICKEN BORDER BURRITO (chicken, cheese, salsa, black beans, & rice), 1 STEAK BORDER BURRITO (steak, cheese, salsa, black beans, & rice), 1 glass of COKE, & 1 glass of FANTA ORANGE. We secured a table, headed to the salsa bar, & took loads of different types, as if they were free samplings of Godiva chocolates! We got: CHIPOTLE SALSA, W/ GUACAMOLE, SALSA FRESCA, & GREEN SALSA...w/c my friend fondly calls "GREEN CRACK"!!! The little "newborn babies" came to our table, and we immediately performed our surgical incisions at the crux of the fatty logs, dumped the salsas...including the "green crack", mixed the fixin's, & started the food inhalation process. DAMN! These burritos are worth the drive!!! Cedric was hating me afterwards : (

Loved this place! I got the special Fajita Burrito... it was delicious! Fellow eaters ordered the Border Burrito, Mesa Tacos, and Taco Al Carbon. All were given 2 thumbs up. The salsa selection is abundant and pleasing to all taste buds. I was happy to see a "mild" sauce that was indeed not spicy at all. The service here was awesome! Everyone was so friendly and genuinely looked happy and eager to please. I'll definitely be back (next time I'm 100 miles north of my house). =)

there must not be much selection when it comes to mexican food out here.... then again i do live in fruitvale where the mariachi music blares and taco trucks are a plenty! so we stopped over on our way to sac and i get the fish and shrimp taco. pretty hard to mess up but they did. i thought FOR SURE the margarita would at least make up for it... *sighs* sadly not. it tasted like old stale lime water. salsa bar? ick! best part of the meal? dos equis beer! dos coyotes? more like GROSS coyotes....

Want Mexican food? Then you should definitely go to Dos Coyotes. Their burritos are delicious. I can not get enough of this place. You get unlimited chips with your food with a delicious salsa bar.

I didn't eat here when i went to school in Davis, but i don't think I missed out much. Recently, i was passing by my alma mater, and I stopped by here for some mahi mahi and carne asada tacos. They were dry and bland. Mahi mahi was overcooked. I do however love the rice in their burrito. Just something about them that is so unique and tasty. I love the atmosphere... it's very mexicany.

If you want americana mexicana then this is the place for you. "It's not that easy to hear what people are saying, but it sure feels exciting" It's best to go right before or after the lunch rush to make sure you have a table. Or you can order it togo. Their salads and burritos are pretty good.

Best BC crispy tacos, bean and cheese burritos and salads. Very delicious. I am a big fan of southwest/Mexican food and dos coyotes is my favorite!

there are only two reasons anyone would want to be in davis and that's attending uc davis or eating at dos coyotes. my first visit to dos coyotes was on a busy saturday night and it was quite the party scene i must say. it was late and i saw very little food around me but the smells drove me crazy. i was astounded by the many people around me and all of the pretty ladies that were out. good looking women in davis is something that seemed very hard to come by at that time. after an hour or so we moved on to the bars next door but all i could think about was getting back there someday for a burrito. my next visit to dos coyotes would be on drive to tahoe as i persuaded my friends to stop for lunch. it would prove to be the best meal we had all weekend. since then i make it a rule to make the stop if i'm ever driving through and sometimes i'll make the hour drive for this one reason. ive had many good things at dos coyotes but these are my go to items..... mango and ahi salad paella burrito shrimp and scallop scampi burrito coyotes yin yang salad the atmosphere is always loud yet fun and very entertaining. i have never been to any of the other locations and that's fine with me as it gives me the one and only reason to be in davis.

Americanized Mexican Food. Not usually a huge fan, but i do really like this place. Aside from the obvious good choices of burritos. The Super Nachos is what quickly comes to mind. This plate of Nachos is HUGE. A definite must share. You get everything on it. And i mean everything! (beans, steak or chicken, sour cream, guac., cheese) They have a nice salsa bar ...yay to unlimited amounts of salsa and for having to-go containers to take some home! I wouldnt suggest ordering the Super Nachos to-go. You wont get as much as if you had dined in. I have pulled a fast one and ordered Nachos to dine in...and then immediately asked for a to-go box! There is always a way around the system! p.s. For some werid reason...this location taste a lot better than the one in south davis.

Love Dos! Chicken adobe salad is to die for and can definitely be shared by two people. Everyone I take to Dos absolutely loves this salad. I only wish there were more locations outside of Davis and Sacramento.

Back in college, I lived across the street from this place, so at least every couple weeks, I ended up having food from there. I've had so many different menu items that I've loved, I can't pick. Food is filling, tasty, and fairly inexpensive. The chips and endless salsa bar are flipping sweet! I wish there was one near me now!

  • Jacques L.

Been eating here for years. Most of the time I grab SouthWest Steak Burrito, Salmon or Mahi Mahi Burrito. Their grilled steak is full of flavor, regardless in what dish they put it in. Portions are more than enough and prices are fair for the most part. The only dish I wasn't satisified was their green chile soup (season special). It wasn't filling for what I remember to be about $7. Salsa Bar is good. At times there has been a lack of consistency on their quacamole base salsa, that gets really really salty. I do like that they rotate in a new salsa every so often; however I would have to say El Mariachi in Davis would have the best salsa bar though. Recently I have been really enjoying their special Fire Grilled Fajita Salad with Steak. In general when I want to feel a little bit healthy, I go for their salads. It's always fun to finish most of the salad and turn the rest of the entree into a salad burrito. Service is good. Staff are nice and efficient, however don't expect to get your drinks refilled. The place is always kept clean and I have yet to have had a bad experience.

This is the ORIGINAL DOS unlike the South Davis one so I give this one the extra star. This place is a love it or hate it because either people embrace the Tex-Mex style or not. Personally I'm in the middle of the road because if I want a burrito I can just walk over to Guad's and get a burrito that's more satisfying. I do credit them with their seasonal menu and usually try to get something different like the mango something or scallop burrito.

  • Jeff I.

You know... this place is not so bad. I always see it and walk by it, but never bothered to go in. Boy was it good that I did. It's a fast food style of Tex Mex, it's well priced and very good food. Shrimp Burritos are excellent, nice jumbo pieces. A definate casual place for both lunch and dinner when you are craving some good Tex Mex

    (4)
  • Don H.

Cheap, big, tex-mex burritos. Reasonably good salsa bar with 4 or 5 options. Ingredients rate pretty high on the fresh scale, which is a bonus. It's a good option for the to/from Tahoe trip.

  • Jonas K.

The first thing that I associate with Davis, CA is DOS COYOTES. I have been to this sit down fast food Tex-Mex themed restaurant for more than a few times. But I have only tried the burritos as that is what the place is known for. I remembered the Southwest and Border burritos were both excellent. They were reasonably priced burritos that came with plenty of ingredients. The self serving salsa bar offered several different types of fresh salsa. Frankly, I thought the salsa at Dos Coyotes is much better than those at other chain taquerias like Una Mas or Baja Fresh. Definitely make this a destination when you are around Davis

  • Surge C.

AMAZING place. The burrito rancheros was the best dish ever. All the food taste extremely fresh and the salsa verde is amazing. I think it was well worth the price for how great the food was. Seriously some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. A must try.

  • Steff L.

I love shrimp. Grlled shrimp, barbeque shrimp, shrimp scampi, butterfly shrimp, shrimp chow mein, coconut shrimp, shrimp, shrimp, shrimp! I'd probably have a great conversation with Bubba from Forest Gump. We'd talk about nothing but shrimp. Anways, the shrimp burrito at Dos is simply amazing! Huge, jumbo pieces of shrimp with rice and a tasty sauce. The shrimp was sooo amazing. The tortilla chips are great too. They give you lots and they're freshly made. If you feel like Tex Mex kinda stuff, this a a great place to go and try. You'll get full fast, believe me. Oh yeah the salsa bar is awesome! They label the mild to hot sauces so you won't have to risk tasting each one and finding your mouth on fire.

I was probably one of their first customers when this one opened in the early 90's.....I was only in my teens at the time, and the food has yet to be as good as it was when it first opened, however, it's kept true to it's roots and the food is still excellent. The A la carte burritos (chicken, steak) are to die for if you like the saucy wet burritos. The shrimp burrito is to die even more for, and the shrimps are substantial in size, easily qualifiable as prawns. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is moderately fast. They've gone thru several changes in ownerships, but the food hasn't. I've lived in Davis for my teens, but every visit I get to this area, Dos Coyotes is always a pit stop.

Awesome Burritos, Tacos, Salads...you can't go wrong! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Davis. The food is always fresh, and TASTY. The salsa bar is neat and tidy and almost always full. The staff is efficient and friendly, order first then find a table. My favorites are the Chicken Border Burrito, the Yucatan Chicken Salad and the Steak Crispy Taco plate. Now they offer gift cards too! Parents looking for a 'care package' item, just call Dos and they will mail you a card, or they can mail it directly to your starving student. Even the bathroom is always clean! Never a bad thing...

  • Norm Y.

"Dos" was one of my favorite places to eat back in my UC Davis college days. Years later, I always make sure to make a stop here on the way back from Tahoe. The shrimp burrito is my favorite, though the GF loves the Yucatan chicken salad. One thing we both agree on is that that green salsa is amazing. If you are ever in the area or passing through, you owe it to yourself to give Dos a try...don't think you'll be disappointed!

After reading some of the reviews and complaints others have on here, I have a few comments. First of all, this is not an authentic mexican food location. Yes, the staff actually making your food is probably Mexican, but this does not Mexican food make! If you want REAL mexican food, head on over to Guad, or to the taco truck out in Winters, or the one by the freeway in Woodland, but I digress. Dos is one of those places that's good for everyone. The food is more than tasty, there's a good variety of menu items ranging from seafood to salads, and their burritos have such different fillings that you could order one a day for weeks and not get bored. My personal favorites are the salmon and paella burritos. You can hang out here with friends, come here with discerning family members and even take the kids. Did I mention the awesome salsa bar? My personal favorites are both of the green salsas- the sweet one with onions and the one that tastes like guacamole. They're different from what you'll usually find at other Mexican places, so you have to try them! This last time I went back up to Davis I found another reason I love Dos, and frankly, this was the reason that pushed it from 4 to 5 stars. Did you know that you can get more than 30 beers here for just $2.25 each? I'm not talking exclusive happy hour prices, either- it's all day long! There are so many reasons to come to Dos. It never leaves me disappointed.

  • Reuben R.

If you must have "authentic" Mexican food, go to Woodland. If you want good Mexicanish California food in generous portions at a reasonable price, then Dos Coyotes fits the bill. The beef and chicken (basically carne asada and pollo, there are no carnitas items on the menu) perfectly nails that elusive grilled taste. The burritos are stuffed large and even the ubiquitous Americanized sides of black beans and rice are good. The Rancho Burrito, baked in their red sauce is an excellent alternative to the enchilada plate. The use of chiles is indeed spare. That's why they have their excellent Salsa Bar with several types of green and red salsas at varying temperature levels, from hot to mild. You get to choose for yourself which and how much. I think I'm going to go get a burrito right now as a matter of fact...

My rating really only applies to the Shrimp Burrito because that's all I ever order there! Needless to say, I love their shrimp burrito and whenever I'm in my home town I try to plan a meal at Dos to get one. Call in your order and avoid the lines! Reasonably priced and yummy food.

I happen to stop by Dos Coyotes once again after a snowboarding trip. It's about 5 min detour off of 80. It has been 8 years since my last visit and I have to say it was a lot better than I remembered. Food tasted fresh and delicious. There was a big salsa bar (green one was my favorite). I'm sure I'll be back again.

There is only one thing to order here: The Adobe Salad with grilled shrimp. It's ridiculously good and so fresh. I have no idea how they make the dressing for this salad but its awesome. I wish they'd open up where La Salsa is on Fillmore St. in SF where we live. We would go all the time. Yum!

I just came back from lunch here and had a great experience. You order food before you sit down so we didn't have much time to review the menu. My boyfriend ordered a burrito and I ordered a corn quesadilla. I paid with my aggie cash which was really convenient! We used the super neat soda machine (it's computerized with a million options within sub categories of soda...so neat) and sat down. The food came out promptly and looked great. My boyfriend cut into his burrito and noticed that there was avocado in it. That's great, however he is very allergic to avocado. I told him to just go buy another one and I'd take his burrito home as leftovers and as he stood up a waitress came out and asked if there were any problems. We explained and I said I'd take home the burrito and we'll purchase another one but they told us not to worry about it and they'll get a new one for us. They came out, again promptly, with the new burrito. We sat down and continued to enjoy our meal. I would give them 4 stars for food and atmosphere however their service pushed them to a 5 star rating.

I just tried this place for a late Tuesday lunch ordering the salmon burrito that came with chips. The place had a few customers but the lunch crowd was already gone. I checked out the salsa bar while waiting for my order that offered mild to hot salsa and bean & corn and cabbage & radish toppings. Even the free water tastes a lot better (just like bay area tap!) than other places in Davis. I was so happy when my burrito came because it was so good! It consisted of salmon, cheese, guacamole, rice, salsa and white sauce. The mixture of ingredients got a little inconsistent towards the last 1/3 of the burrito with barely any cheese, guacamole, or salsa left but it was still one of the best seafood burritos I've had. It's very affordable with all items around $7-$8. I'd love to try out more of their other offerings next time around.

I hate to admit it but I drive 85 miles or so just to come here. Their tex mex is probably the best I have ever had in my entire life. PAELLA BURRITO!!!!!

how do you spell addiction? D-O-S C-O-Y-O-T-E-S. i had a roommate in college that went to Dos (as we called it back then) SO OFTEN that she started paying us to go pick her shrimp burrito up, or even to call in her order (they recognized her voice and phone number...). she also started buying our burritos! my addictions wasn't quite one such that i would need an intervention (as in my roommate's case) but it was pretty bad. i think everyone at UCD had it bad. i bet they still do. they also have another location in Davis, Sacramento's Arden Fair Mall, Folsom, and i believe a few others... the best thing, in my opinion, is the MAHI MAHI BURRITO w/ the GREEN SALSA! i used to bring my own tupperware and fill it up w/ the green stuff. another good place to hit on the way back from Tahoe or Burning Man. take the 113/Woodland exit to Covell. OH YAH!

I'm a fanatic of Dos Coyotes. Whenever I'm in the area, I make the trek to one of the many locations. When I was a student, I used to go to the original restaurant many times when the shopping center first opened up. My favorite is the steak border burrito or the Mahi Mahi burrito. I love the green tomatillo salsa. I actually emailed the owner many years ago if he/she would share the recipe but I was denied. You can't blame a fanatic for asking. I've found a recipe online that is really close to that recipe but ain't nothing like the real thing. I'm not embarrassed to say I'm addicted to Dos Coyotes. It's a great addiction in my opinion. My brother who is also a Davis grad feels the same way. We've been known to buy 5-10 burritos and buy a pint of the tomatillo salsa to go. Back in the day, we used to bring our own container and fill up on the salsa. So bad, but so worth it. Wish Dos would open up a place here in the Bay Area.

The blue corn nachos were a staple for me back in the day. Not a hole in the wall taqueria but not a fancy sit down place either. Just solid Mexican food for very reasonable prices with big portions. Good selection of salsas and your typical college crowd ambiance. Still one of my drop bys for the trek to Tahoe.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in town! The chicken burritos are amazing. The dishes tend to drip, so make sure you have plenty of napkins or a plate handy. I've never had a better green salsa in my life. The prices are within reason, especially for starving students and the like.

One Paella Burrito, please! You can never go wrong by going to Dos Coyotes. It's been many years since I've graduated from UCD, so coming last night was a treat! It brought back a lot of memories for my friend and I...some wonderful memories! Yum! I think we enjoyed the food and company, more so than the reason why we were up there in the first place!

I've been eating here for five years and my whole family loves it. It's a great place to get a pretty quick meal and the atmosphere is very casual. If you go at the right time it can be a good place for groups, because the tables are easily moved, but I think it's best for groups of 2-4. The steak is great and anything with it has to be tasty. The nachos are particularly good and the Colorado enchiladas are great in the winter to warm you up.

Having lived in SF, LA and Austin I find Gross Coyotes simply mediocre at best. Yes they have a large variety of salsas but 90% of them are just bad. The meat across the board is never the same twice and it's never excellent. They do Tex-Mex really and they do it not very well. I'm sure for people that have never had any other real Mexican and or Tex Mex this place is AMAZIING!! But like most Davis restaurants it's sub-par.

I have been coming to this location since it opened and I have also tried every other location and everything on the menu including seasonal special menus. My standby favorite burritto is the Southwest (no salsa, then once I get it I drown it in the salsa verde). All the meats here are top notch, that cant be denied. Dont complain about the prices when you know they use high quality ingredients. If you want to save a buck or two then go down the street and eat the greasy mystery meat. But for my money, you cant be Dos. The seasonal special list always has those special recipes you dont see at any other place. Currently my favorite is the Smokin Chicken Burritto. Just like my GF in a bikini, its smokin hot!!! Smoked white cheddar cheese, roasted red potatoes, and grilled onions and peppers all coated with bit of smokey BBQ sauce. Phenomenal! My favorite special of all time that I havent seen on the menu in almost 3 years is the RANCH HAND BURRITO...for the love of God, please bring it back!!!!!!!! Tender ,shredded beef brisket, jack cheese, roasted red potatoes, and grilled onions all topped off with a chili stout beer sauce and more melted jack cheese that is just to die for. I could go on and on about how spectacular Dos Coyotes.,,how I could drink the green salsa by the pint, how tender the marinated steak and chicken are, how the free range carnitas has the perfect blend of spices and orange zest to make your tastebuds soar, how the spicy Lousiana style gumbo warms my belly on cool winter nights. Oh Dos what would I do without you. I am sure everyone will find something they absolutely love there so dont give up after one try.

Burrito size has gotten smaller over the years, but I always have to stop by on my way to the Tahoe. I love their salads, they are massive, I can seriously split it into 3 separate meals. I'm not sure what they use to marinate their meats, but it's delicious! Great prices and always consistant quality for each visit at all locations: So. Davis, No. Davis, Arden Fair, Folsom and Roseville.

Best Tex Mex in Davis. Love the adobe salad minus the onions, the chicken enchiladas, and the border burrito. Their specials change and they are usually pretty good. I find myself trying mexican food in other towns and thinking, "Dang, i wish i was at Dos." it's that good!!

    (5)
  • Brett R.

Their grilled salmon burrito is tasty and I really like their green salsa, nothing against their other salsas, but their green is awesome. Oh, and the nachos are HUGE. If you are in the mood for an authentic taqueria go to Guadalajara (their burritos are heavy), but if a TASTY Southwest / Mexicali hybrid is what you are craving go to Dos!

  • d g.

Tex-Mex food, not Mexican. When we went, there were flies buzzing around and the food took a while to get to us--not that it mattered much, it was amazingly bland. Aren't there chili peppers or something in that kitchen? Neither of us were impressed...disappointed, more like it. Not going back.

The first time I ate here, I won a raffle for a free dinner, and ordered the steak ranchero plate. It was delicious. Back in the halcyon days of high school, we would come here for lunch on Fridays, always making it back to 5th period a bit late. The steak border burrito and nachos were particularly good. Something happened when I went away to college. The service was still fantastic and familial, and the food prompt and hot, but the steak devolved from the tender, flavorful stuff of commercials to some sort of stringy beef reminiscent of a microwaveable TV dinner available at Safeway next door. Dos will always have a soft spot in my heart, but when I'm feeling southwestern, I'll head to Chipotle instead. Sorry, guys.

This is a Tex-Mex Restaurant so don't go there expecting authentic, but what they do they do well. Ranchero Burrito, Navajo Nachos with grilled steak, yum. Their chips and salsas are good and they have a salsa bar with a large variety ranging from hot to mild. Pace yourself.

  • Wayne C.

my favorite burrito joint during my college days, and nowadays, a mandatory lunch stop if i happen to drive by davis anywhere near the lunch hour. chicken and beef are grilled to perfection, but the star on the menu for me is the mahi mahi burrito. haven't found a burrito like that anywhere else.

    (4)
  • Kara M.

I love Dos!! Their paella burrito is amazing! It has shrimp, chicken sausage, cheese, mahi mahi, and rice. Chips come with your meal too. Try the green salsa...it is sweet and spicy! Slightly more expensive, burritos usually average around $7. The inner decor of the restaurant is cute too. You can get it to go or eat in and service is always quick.

  • Yolanda S.

I don't even like Tex Mex and Dos Coyotes is my favorite place ever! The shrimp burritoes are to die for (The mahi mahi burritos are also quite good). I also love their flavored ice teas. I always make it a point to go when I am in Davis!!!!

YUM YUM YUM!!! My friends and I were driving back to the Bay Area from Tahoe and decided to stop off at our old stomping grounds of our college days for dinner. First place that popped in our heads was DOS! And we weren't disappointed! My steak border burrito was delicious! Their shrimp burrito was also good. I hope Dos Coyotes expands into berkeley someday. =)

A place my roommate and I head out to after a long week of midterms! We would bike all the way from campus to the MarketPlace. Definitely worth the trek. We always order the salmon burrito. Sadly, this was how we got our serving of fish since neither one of us cooked too well! I agree with fellow Yelper that the portion size has gotten a bit smaller since then. But wouldn't keep me from stopping by.

I have fond memories of this place when I went to UCD. Steak Ranchero Burrito... a half dozen salsas to choose from (when they had it, the mango was excellent!)... don't be fooled by the newer South Davis one. That place is too new and the grill hasn't been seasoned enough! I'll put a little caveat on Dos however. Davis isn't too well known for its ethnic foods and Dos is as "authentic" as Chipotle, but being what it is, and where it is, it'll make you happy enough.

i was first introduced to this place by my husband. he loved to eat here when he was in college. he would rave about dos and i would think 'how good can this place be? i've been to chevy's before.' my first impression was that dos was okay. i had the chicken burrito on the first visit. then i had the shrimp burrito on another visit. oh my god!! was i mistaken!! i now know what he's talking about! whenever we drive through sac or davis, we gotta stop at dos!!! sometimes we eat in and then take a few burritos home for later. i love the shrimp stuff here! shrimp burrito and shrimp tacos are both good. the white sauce is so yummy!!! it's kinda tangy and sweet. the steak items are good too. steak is tender and seasoned well. my husband always gets his burrito wet. the red sauce is awesome. the salsas are awesome too! taste them all to find the one you like. everything here is fresh. you will not go wrong with anything you order off the menu or the specials.

Although Davis is a sucky city, this is one of it's highlights. It has been over 6 years, but I can remember that this was one of the best Mexican chains around. They have more seafood that the average place. It would be on par with Chipotle. If it were down here in L.A., it would do well. If you're ever in Davis (hopefully you don't live there), this is a place to try...

Everytime i come back from snowboarding this is the spot to go. Prices are cheap, food is tasty and good, and the 4 or 5 different Salsa's rule, especially the spicy-sweet green stuff. Last time i was there i had a scallop burrito for $6.50 woo! The Specials are worth it!

    (4)
  • Wilson L.

Their burritos were good, but their salsa bar was the best. They had this greenish clear salsa and OMFG, it's unbelivable what the taste was. Come for salsa bar, beware of anything with fish in it. My salmon tasted like chicken on my last visit!!

This place was one of the places that kept me fed in college. Healthy Mexican usually is a conundrum but this place does it right.

The ambience here was great, it was like an upscale Rubios ;) the Carne asada burrito was what I had, and it was definitely delish- good flavor to the meat, and a wonderful salsa bar that included guac, corn/bean salad, and at least 4 diff salsas. The reason for 3 stars- it's just not up to par with the SD Burritos =)

apparently there're 2 dos coyote's in davis, so hopefully i'm reviewing the one i went to. the paella burrito. just the sound of it makes me think some spaniard chef is pissed off at the idea. like how i'm pretty sure french chefs are bummed that they introduced america to the croissant, and we give them back the croissandwich. but the paella burrito is a winner. moist enough that i didn't really need a drink, but dry enough to eat with your hands. which is how burritos need to be eaten. in short, i'd advise the paella burrito. thank you.

Another Davis landmark...good food, but I always thought it was a bit overpriced (the burritos anyway). I dig the nachos!

I miss Dos. When you've got Davis grads willing to drive 1.5 hours to get a burrito at Dos, then you've got a hit. It's the first thing you think about when you visit Davis! It's worth skipping meals the whole day just to really enjoy a huge mahi mahi or shrimp burrito....with the green salsa. Now that salsa, I've never been able to find another place that has anything even similar to their green salsa. It's a little sweet, a little kick. Their daily special salads are great too. The original Covell Location is the best.

Oh...how I miss DOS! Everytime I head this way...I make it a point to stop by to visit the Dos Coyotes at the Marketplace. I've gone to a few others - in Sacramento & Folsom...and for some reason...they were not the same! --I still cannot pinpoint the reason.

Huge huge portions- and great quality food. The food comes out fast too. But the best best reason to come here is the salsa bar.

I still dream about their mouthwatering and delectable caesar salad! I am a human garbage disposal and used to be incapable of finishing this salad in one sitting. The crispy tortilla strips are the most delish topping! The cheese, beans, onions, and corn mixture is to die for! I never though a Southwest Caesar could be so satisfying!

  • Toni C.

I don't know why I haven't written a review of this place yet. I've been coming here since it had a grand total of 6 tables and people would stand behind you while you finished eating just to get a seat! Their mahi mahi burrito is the BEST! I have seriously tried to find a fish burrito that compares since I've moved 1.5 hours away and have yet to find any that even comes close. Their seasonal specials are usually really good too. Last time we made the trek we had the grilled sweet corn with chili-lime butter...sooo good! Their salsa bar, the tomatillo salsa in particular, is habit forming. In the 10+ years I've been coming here, I've yet to have a bad meal. Even though it's still a 90 minute journey to get there, any excuse we have to head by Davis is a definite stop for a dose of Dos. Now they just need to open one in the Bay Area for us Aggie alums who crave Dos!!

    (5)
  • Richard N.

Why does everyone rave about this place? The burritos are good, I will admit. But they aren't mouth watering, need to have, the only burrito I will eat if I'm in Davis kind of place. The paella one is the most popular, but I think they are overpriced for what you get. Also, no horchata?!

    (3)
  • Ara A.

My go to item on the Dos menu has been the southwest burrito; however, I am now a fan of the Spinach Salad with Salmon. This salad is on the seasonal menu, but every time I have craved it, it was available. :) If you want to keep the salad light, get the dressing on the side! Dos never disappoints!

  • Lea D.

I've been eating here for over 15 years. I still love the steak border burrito. Can't beat the salsa bar with a rotating variety of fresh made salsas. I love the avocado salsa as well as the sweet tomatillo salsa. The mahi mahi tacos are so fresh tasting and always hit the spot for me. Both the Adobe Salad and the Yucatan chicken salad are delicious and HUGE. I have found that asking to get my chips first as my meal is prepared is a great way to get a "free appetizer" instead of getting them with my meal. At that point, I am usually so into my burrito or other dish that the chips are superfluous.

  • Simei Y.

The bf and I get the (sweet) Sante Fe nachos, without fail, every time. With/without chicken, it comes to $7/8. Then we share. And life is good. The bf is also a diehard fan of the Ranch Hand burrito, which is seasonal. According to him, best burrito ever. For me, not so much. There's cheese and sauce and lots of beans in that thing. Anyway, place is always crowded or half-full at any time of the day. Lines are pretty bad during peak times, but you can usually get your order within 15-20 minutes after you place it.

    (4)
  • Jossue V.

I'm going to be honest here. This place is "okay". Their nachos and burritos seem to be their biggest hit when it comes to it. Their prices could be overwhelming (I bought a burrito for my myself and nachos for a friend and it ended up being 21 dollars!). Overall though, it has a good atmosphere and a good place to relax with friends.

I once had 19 separate charges from Dos on one credit card bill; the cashiers and manager knew me by name. Sad or a point of pride? Those were the "single days," where beer flowed like water, and Dos's famous green salsa did too. My drugs of choice were and are the southwestern steak burrito and the mahi burrito. My wife swears by the adobe chicken salad. Oh, and don't forget copious amounts of chips and every salsa they're slinging (usually 6-10 varieties in the salsa bar). Although I don't get to Dos that often any more, I make it a point to at least get take-out when we roll through Davis. What is amazing is that Dos has kept their prices down and their quality up. After moving to Natomas 7 years ago I would write Dos corporate an annual email begging them to open up a branch here; no dice so far, but I am not giving up. Dos, I love you!

Awesome food. Palella burrito was great and very reasonably priced. Loved the salsa bar, I tried most and a good variety. My only wish was for them to give you your chips when you order cause I'd rather munch on them with all of the salsas while I'm waiting for my entree.

    (5)
  • Tony J.

The food always tastes fresh and the service usually pretty quick even when it's really busy. They have a great salsa bar as well. The only reason for 4 stars is because sometimes their chips are very stale, tough, and oily. But this is very rare and only a few chips out of the batch they give me are like this. Also if this ever happens they are more than happy to give you new chips.

    (4)

This place is YUM!!!!! certain things are pricey, but the salsa bar is great and they give hella chips with all orders YUM!! If you need a mexican food fix GO GO GO!!!!!

after eating at a bad italian restaurant the week before, we decided to eat at dos. i ordered the carnitas tacos, my sister got the asparagus quesadilla (on the specials menu). i enjoyed the tacos, and i think i ate them too fast. the pork could have been a little more tender, but it was tasty nevertheless. the quesadilla was a little spicy, but good. service was excellent. decor uplifting.

Adobe Salad with chicken and a Margarita on the rocks with salt - The salad is huge and could easily feed two people. Davis has some good restaurants and this is definitely one of them. The fare was American enough for me. No lard-fried tostada shell for the salad, but a huge softshell tortilla. The greens were all fresh. There's a self-serve salsa bar that includes mango and melon salsas. I was sitting at a table between nerds/students and a father/son couple, right across from a huge family of about 20 who looked to be celebrating a birthday. A pretty mixed crowd of customers and a large dining area suggests this is a favorite among locals. It was pretty crowded when I got there, it seemed as popular as an In-N-Out on a Friday night, but according to the locals, it's the only location. I typically judge a good Mexican restaurant by the chips & salsa, but I'm not gonna do that in this case. They weren't the best I've had, but they were just accompanying the salad so I can't complain too much.

My friend likes stopping here in Davis, and I can see why. The seafood burritos are awesome! This Dos Coyotes is in a Safeway plaza. Very quaint with nice decor. They use real glasses for their fountain sodas and encourage you to pour one of their many salsas directly on the chips. About the salsa, I read that it won best salsa bar in the area in 2006 and 2007. I will say their salsas were pretty good. The pico de gallo was fairly standard and nothing special, but they had a spicy pico de gallo with plenty of jalapenos. That's what I'm talking about! There was also a good fire roasted style one and a nice habanero one that wasn't too spicy but left a nice bit of heat on your tongue. But enough about the salsa. How about those seafood burritos? I had the mahi mahi burrito, which has grilled mahi mahi. The burrito was a decent size, but oh so tasty. It had a great white sauce and was very moist, even with the rice in it. No need to drown your burrito in salsa! It comes with chips and you can ask for more if you want. Next time I'm going to give the shrimp burrito a try. I hear it's very good as well!

Overrated - but not bad ... Huge salsa selection but anything not pico de gallo is disgusting. Burritos are reasonably priced and taste decent, but I rather go to a real taqueria ... Overall it is probably on par with Chipotle (another franchise). I would pick Dos Coyotes over Chipotle just because my wallet is tighter.

Overall good gringo Mexican food. Healthier Mexican food with an American twist. The blue corn nachos are to die for. I have not been disappointed coming here. The staff has always been friendly and kind even when I come in right before closing. Overall, I like this place and come here when I'm in the area. Plus their said machine is nifty to look at. It has options for like 15 different kinds of soda.

I'm familiar with Mexican food from San Diego, Mexico, and Mexican communities in the bay area. So when I had this pitiful attempt to serve Mexican food, I was very disappointed. I'm surprised this place gets decent business despite the appalling food. They attempt to create a southwestern theme with pathetic tacky decorations and paintings. The line was a little bit of a wait to get my burrito. After I got my food I had trouble finding a table. Every aspect of the burrito was disappointing. The tortilla was a bit stale and didn't have moisture to adhere itself together. The meat's flavor was bland and lacked any rich flavor juices that normally come with freshly cooked meat. The mixture of all the ingredients at most created a dull taste in my mouth. Overall this burrito was low quality and what was the worst was that I was paying more than what anyone should be paying for any burrito. Burritos and common mexican foods are simple casual food. This place tries to throw in a confusing american twist to this cousine thus ending up with a restaurant that doesn't keep it real. Real Talk.

If you take anything way from this review, it should be this: CHEAP. BEER. This was a nice enough Tex-Mex, a la Cactus Taqueria (Berkeley & Oakland) or Picante (Berkeley) (although with a touch of Tex) spot that we found in Davis. They have a lot of cheap beer, which I loved. However, my fish tacos were OK, pretty bland, and the chips and salsas were, you guessed it, bland. I did like eating in the quiet of the outside to get away from the noisy indoors room, and the folks that work there are tops. I'd go back, but I'd order differently perhaps?

We went for lunch today. Food was great and was on the table very fast. Reviewing based on food alone i had a few issues. If you ask for something spicy in a Mexican restaurant it should be pretty hot. Sadly this is were it fell short. Other than that rather small complaint i will come back and frequently I'm certain of that.

Many would say that San Ramon is a very good place to live. Good schools, family oriented communities, friendly people...blah, blah, blah...BUT it's definitely not a place you would say, "hey, let's go to San Ramon and eat at xxxx." To those who graduated from Davis or lived in the area, if you ask them to recommend a place to eat, most likely they'll recommend Dos and will probably be in their top 3. Bored out of our minds yesterday watching kites fly in the nearby park, my wife and I decided to visit our Alma Mater 75 miles east of SR. Finally, another excuse to get out of the house. On a side note, I feel somewhat bad that my only visits to Aggie town is to go to Dos Coyotes on Covell and maybe stop off at the outlets in Vacaville on the way home...ok, I'm over it! (Queue the background reminiscing music) Geez, I still remember starting my freshman year at Davis and Dos was this lil hole in the wall place. In fact, I don't remember when the "Border Cafe" part was added to their name??? Nor do I remember that they had a mascot aka Bobby Coyote...wtf! (end music) Glad to see that the food quality hasn't changed over the years. So, my favorites...definitely the Navajo Nachos and the Ranchero burritos. If you haven't tried a Ranchero, the sauce is off the hook. Also, no beans, please..we don't get along well!! Gas is the silent killa you know. Prices are still very reasonable, about $6-$8. Their grilled steak and chicken are marinated well and very tender, never over cooked. Their salsas are always fresh and their chips are addicting. The chips are light and very crispy and will kick the crap out of Chevy's.

ok people. Let's get a much needed piece of advice out of the way: PLEASE STOP EXPECTING AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD NORTH OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY. Sorry that was as painful as it was, but most people cannot understand that 99% of the time, you won't be getting anything near the authenticity of food in mexico/san diego. Having lived in San Diego for 12 years, in LA for 4 years (go bruins!), and having explored so much of both counties, there isn't much good mexican food in LA, so why expect any better in Davis? This place is good for "mexican" food. It's not authentic, but there are the words "taco," "burrito," and "quesadilla" in there. They even go so far as to write "ensalada" instead of "salad." I had the mahi mahi burrito for $7.88. The fish was good, the size not too overwhelming, and they had a good selection of salsas at the bar. Two things though -- if I come back sometime, I'll ask for them to go easy on the white sauce, or get it on the side. Also -- not enough HEAT at this place! None of the salsas were very spicy at all, and that's what my meal was lacking. Otherwise, I try to think of it as a high-end Rubio's or something. Good meal. Doesn't seem to greasy and if you come in a group, there will be something for everyone to order.

This is such a legit place surprisingly! Hidden away in a shopping plaza. This came as a recommendation for someone who wanted Mexican but with a SF palate. By that, I mean actually wanting healthy, organic, and slightly bougie Mexican food, but without the bougie prices. Added bonus is the salsa bar - so many good choices! I always went back for more.

Their tomatilla salsa is what keeps me coming back to this place. It's especially good atop the spicy shrimp burrito.

Several days ago, my two girlfriends and I decided to go to this location to grab something small and quick since we weren't that hungry. I politely asked for a coke and two water glasses for my friends and paid for the food. The female cashier only gave me a cup for the coke so me and my friends ended up having to share the drink. I didn't make much of it. A few minutes later, I went up to her and asked for an extra plate, the same female cashier, with an attitude and rigid facial expression asked me: "What's the plate for?"!!! Confused, I replied: "To eat the chips with". In my mind, I was thinking, did I do something wrong? Why is she being so rude and hesitant to give me a plate! I went back there a couple days later, after paying for the food, I asked for a plate again to eat the chips with because they have it in a bag. As the cashier goes to get me the plate, the same female cashier from last time went up to her and told her not to give it to me! WTFFFF!!!!! GTFOH!!!! I can't believe what just HAPPENED!!!! I am at a restaurant, just paid for the food, but they are refusing to give me an extra plate!!!?? I was BEDAZZLED as though they were doing it intentionally to piss me off! I was already having a bad day and now this??!!! So I asked to speak to the manager. The male manager came up to me and told me it was COMPANY POLICY TO NOT GIVE ME A PLATE because they didn't want me to get the salsa with the plate, but instead, to use the tiny plastic containers they have by the salsa stand. I then asked for a refund and guess what? The manager said: "No, I cannot give you a refund because the food is already made!" At this point, I was furious, outraged, and I just exploded!!! I started cursing and yelling and created a scene. Finally, the male manager said: "Ok, I'll give you the plate". WTFFFF!!!! It took all the arguing, yelling, cursing, for them to finally hand me an extra plate to eat my chips with??? R you freaking kidddingggg meeeeeeeeeeee?!!!!! Even now, I do not know why they treated me the way they did. Maybe because I am Asian? I wonder, if my friends and I were White, would they have treated us differently? Would they have dared to refuse me a plate??! RACISM? !!!! Whatever it is, the owners need to look into it because it was OUTRAGEOUS to the EXTREME!!!! Never again will I go to the North Davis Dos Coyotes location. NEVER, EVER, AGAIN! I will make sure none of the people I know go there either! NOTE TO MANAGEMENT/OWNER: Please look into this and fire these unqualified people. It does affect your business negatively! You just lost some customers and accrued some bad reviews. Keep it up and your business will see a downward slope!!! All it takes are some delinquent employees!

These guys make my FAVORITE burrito of all time. The Paella Burrito is amazing. Seriously, I have been coming to this location for nearly 15 years and getting that same burrito. When I started ordering it, it wasn't even on their permanent menu, it was a weekly special item! It is that good. My husband gets the nachos and loves them. I can not really say much about other menu items as I haven't yet found the need to order something else. Their salsa bar has great salsas, lots of choices, and their chips and guacamole are tasty too. :) We stop by here ANY time we are traveling through Davis or Sac. In fact, the husband even picks it up if he is solo through that area and always gets points with me for that!! Like I said, the rest of the food I am unsure about, but they have been making my favorite burrito consistently, and deliciously, for nearly 15 years. That deserves 5 stars in my book. :)

This is part of my goal to try every restaurant in Davis before I graduate in the fall. I prefer this one over the location in the south end, but i could be biased. I am currently in love with the chicken ranchero burrito here. It's a burrito loaded with onions bell paper and chicken, covered in an enchilada sauce. For me, I love to dip foods. Drenched food is the same as dipping and it works well for me. The rachero sauce they put over the burrito here has a lot more flavor than the one in the south end, but their burritos and fillings are both just as good. Their tomatillo salsa is also a favorite of mine. It's sweet unlike the other salsas, and it tastes great on chips.

This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. The best Tex-Mex I have ever had. This is easily one of the better places to eat in Davis. While I was in school, I came here at least once a week. Since graduating, whenever I visit, no trip to Davis is complete without eating here at least once. They use the best steak ever in their burritos. So clearly, a steak burrito is a good option if on your first visit. However, I love their paella burrito, which is what I normally order due to its combination of prawns, mahi mahi, and chicken sausage. If with friends, ordering their steak topped nachos is a wonderful selection. Their chicken caesar salad is decent "healthier" option. You really cannot go wrong here. Well, unless you are allergic to awesome!

Dos Coyotes is the hot girl who doesn't know it and is dating a guy she is much too good for. By that I mean it's got the polish of a chain but the uniqueness and credibility of local restaurant---unfortunately, though, its already "with" Davis (I swear I'm gonna kick that wussy town's ass if I see it after school). The Adobe salad is a "two-fer" ---mild mannered salad by day, burrito by night. Yes, its big enough that it will take you that long to finish, but roll that puppy up in its tortilla and you'll hardly even recognize it was the salad you initially ordered. That's a nice trick indeed. Oh yeah, and the beer is cheap ($2-3 as I recall), with good selection (e.g. blue moon)

Davis, ah, it brings back such good memories. Although I lived in South Davis when I went to UCD, I occasionally trekked up to the Marketplace plaza for Dos Coyotes. The Marketplace's parking lot was also the one where my car got stuck in the mud in one of those parking lot islands that normally have trees in them. That was a fun AAA phone call, but yeah... that's a whole other story. Ah, the college memories. Anyhow... On Black Friday, my family went up to Sacramento to do some Christmas shopping (Arden Fair has a Lego store). On the way back, we stopped in Davis for dinner. Davis holds MY nostalgic memories, so my husband let me choose the spot for dinner. Since I'd somewhat recently been to Cafe Italia and since I wasn't in the mood for Silver Dragon, that left Dos Coyotes (the last of the three restaurants that I still remember from my days at UCD). Luckily, it was the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend, and most students were home with their families -- else we would likely have had a wait for the tables. This place can get packed! Dos Coyotes was such a good decision! It's been almost a week since we ate there, but I'm still thinking about those fish tacos with rice and black beans. The salsa bar is especially well stocked as well; I personally put down three little containers of that slaw, two of the avocado salsa, and two of the chipotle salsa. Great kids meals as well. Yum!

*This review is about their customer service* I bought an à la carte steak Ranchero Burrito from Dos today and upon eating it I discovered it was actually a pulled pork burrito. I'm not the biggest fan of pork but told myself I'd eat it anyways and attribute their mistake to the fact that it was Picnic Day, a fairly busy day. Around my third to fourth bite, I complained to my friends that I couldn't bring myself to enjoy the pulled pork. They suggested that I call in and ask for a refund. I've never felt comfortable returning food to a restaurant's kitchen or complaining about a messed up order mainly because of the negative responses my friends and family have gotten from staff in the past, at other establishments. I reluctantly decided to call in and the manager (Chris, I believe) answered. He was very kind and understanding and before I could even ask for a refund, he put in another order for me and personally made sure it was the right one this time (which it was!). I didn't expect such a genuine and positive response. So, thank you Chris! As usual, their food is BOMB and so is their customer service to boot. I'll definitely be going back soon!

Disappointed with lack of customer service. We love the food but today's service was bad. The manager Chris wasn't helpful at all. He didn't even give us an apology for the mistake they made. Instead he made excuses. Lunch rush busy blah blah blah. It was a simple request to have the dressing on the side. He insisted that the veggies come with the dressing mixed in but no where on the menu does it say that. My wife asked for a burrito bowl which is cheaper than the salad but he didn't even bother to give her the difference in pay. I had to go up there and ask. Yes it was busy but this is the time where one should step up the service and be helpful and make the customer happy. You do want them to keep coming back. I also do customer service and the easiest thing one can do is say sorry and fix the problem. I think we will be doing dos at home from now on.

I understand everyone in Davis loves this place for the ambiance and the variation on salsa, which is why I decided to try this place out. I didn't have a good experience because their menu board was very misleading. I was overcharged for a small portion of food. I called back at the store (I was on lunch with co-workers and couldn't mention it during rush time) and the worker there was very helpful and polite. But he even agreed with me that the board is very misleading and I am not the only customer to complain about this issue. I rarely write a review but this felt too unjust to not to. I felt robbed at this place. Go to taqueria and you will get better Mexican food for half the price. I hope you can fix this issue.

Pros: -very clean -large, delicious salad bar of salsas -great customer service -ample indoor and outdoor seating -tons of parking available -cute decor -HUGE portions, great for the price -unique flavors (I.e. Mango and raspberry salsa) Cons: -I've definitely had far better, more authentic Mexican food (this is more of a Mexican-American fusion sort of place). - $0.80 upcharge for sour cream (this annoys me; my burritos are always incomplete without my sour cream!)

This was the first place I ate in Davis when I was an undergrad years ago. I loved it then and even though my taste buds have changed through the years and become more "refined" through many meals over the years, I found myself back at Dos recently with great memories of college and hopeful expectations that the food was still as good as I remembered. Well, it didn't disappoint! I ordered the mahi mahi burrito, my old staple. They still make it nice and big, with a decent amount of fish and lots of fillings, including that yummy white sauce! I brought along two friends who ordered the same thing and they liked how it seemed lighter than other burritos they have had and how it was full of flavor. Definitely looking forward to my next visit back to the area, I'm glad that both in appearance and the quality of the food that Dos hasn't changed much at all through the years!

Loved this place when I was a student at UCD. Pretty much run by students working part time jobs. Food is cheap and delicious! Perfect for a student on a budget. Anyway, I just ate here today with my stepson. It was the first time I had dined here since I graduated in 2000. The food was just as good and filling as I remember!

Food ranges between 1.5 and 2.5 stars but service is always nice. Dos Coyotes is your typical semi-fast food college joint. I've been here a couple times since I live so close by. The portions are large and I usually have leftovers. In my experiences the meat is a bit more overcooked than I like. I prefer their quesadillas and enchiladas over their burritos. The soda machine here is one of those cool touch screen ones so that's always fun to play with. The chips aren't bad at they have a free salsa bar. The lines here can get pretty long but at least the service is pretty fast. Overall it's not bad for a quick late night meal or if you're really craving Tex-Mex. I'll usually buy take out since it can get pretty loud inside.

The Yucatan Chicken Salad is the bomb! I've tried their burritos and tacos, however I'm not a fan. I highly recommend their salads and salsa bar. Salads are huge and very tasty. Anytime I pass through Davis, this is the only restaurant I go to. I've been eating here for over 8 years. Good service, healthy food and great prices.

My experience here was delicious! First I asked the girl at the counter, Jessica what she suggested to eat. I went with her choice, the steak green chili enchiladas. I went with friends and we all loved our meals. There was a mistake with the order deliveries and a long wait. We did not complain to the management, but someone overheard us and instantly apologized and offered to remake the mixed up orders. We declined so she brought us lots of extra chips and salsa to make up for the service. So attentive to us. Great food and service. Will be back many times. Yum!

Every time I pass by Davis I always get a craving for Dos Coyotes. I've had a lot of both Mexican & Tex-Mex in all my years and I have to say that the Santa Fe Steak Nachos here are THE BEST NACHOS IN THE WORLD!!! I know I'm putting my credibility on the line by making such an audacious claim but until another restaurant proves me wrong, I stand behind my statement. Also, I love their special Seasonal Menu. They're usually very eclectic and tasty. I've never made this statement before but this is one of the few places that I think I could eat on a weekly basis.

Great service, always call my food in because I work down the street. They always have a friendly person at the cash register. Food is always ready by the time I get there.

I like this place because it is so close to my apartment, so it is super easy to just take a quick walk and order my food to go. I pretty much always order from the seasonal menu because, you know, it's good to eat local and in season and all. And they always have at least one vegetarian option on the seasonal menu, a great plus. Affordable, great food, good service, local, what's not to love?

The parking lot was a bit cramped and hard to navigate. The restaurant was clean and not overly crowded. The clerk taking the orders was friendly but not super knowledgable. My wife said she felt rushed by the clerk, however there was no one behind us. Now to the food: very generous portions and came out in a timely manner. It tasted as though it was put together fresh. My lean & mean burrito was very good and healthy. Wife burrito bowl was very large portion for her standards. I have little to no complaints about our visit. I would return again if I was in the area. Would be interested in expanding into other menu selections.

I would've gone to DOS much more frequently during my undergraduate years at UCD had I realized HOW GOOD OF A DEAL some of their food is. Many thanks to the Yelpers that promoted the Yucatan salad, which seriously can last two meals and is also great for sharing! But just because I love that one salad, doesn't mean everything is absolutely perfect. A lot of things don't come with chips/salsa bar and no way I'm ever going to pay extra for it. The Sante Fe nachos are mehhhhh, and the burritos remind me of chipotle but less stuffed. Actually, to think of it, everything just tastes like chipotle in more varieties. Must be the Southwest.

This is a hard because I've been going to Dos Coyotes for 10+ years, but going to review mostly based off of recent experiences. The food has always been inconsistent, often forgetting major components on the dish (usually sauces for tacos, in burritos, etc). I have had a dish be amazing and order it again a week later and it looks way different/disappointed. The worst is the salmon salad which was drenched in oily salad dressing that tasted like nothing, wasn't edible. To bad because the salmon and all the components were right on.

  • Vy M.

Food here is alright. I usually order the Yin Yang Salad with Chicken or the Mahi Mahi burrito. Usually for 8$, you can get a burrito else where for a lot bigger. I can finish this burrito in one sitting, which is unlikely of me when i order burritos at other mexican restaurants. However, i do love their salsa bar!!! they have a wide variety of salsa at the salsa bar. The only down side is their burrito is pretty pricey for what you are getting, which is a pretty small burrito. Or well, it fills me up but i usually like to cut my burritos in half and eat it for lunch then for dinner. Service is fairly fast here. Not too slow which is a plus. I reccomend getting the Mahi Mahi burrito if you guys like fish burritos! they have chunks of fish in there, i just wish they gave more.

  • Yvonne T.

All the food is decently priced. The salsa and chips are delicious . My favorite is the the border burrito bowl . Their guacamole is pretty good too. They make your food pretty fast, lines can get really long though. The steak and chicken they use for the burritos are really good. but idk Whyy they use difference chicken for the tacos, it's like shredded bland, weird smelling and pretty gross. Avoid the chicken tacos but I recommend the steak, beef or mahi mahi tacos .

  • James L.

This place has decent food for Davis and it's one of the only places to eat in North Davis. The service is also nice and the prices are reasonable. I'm giving it two stars (should be 1.5 stars) because they have some pretty poor quality-control. I ordered a chicken border burrito to go. I got home only to realize that there wasn't any chicken in the burrito. Out of all the things to forget, they forgot the main ingredient. I'll just drive to Chipotle next time.

  • Destina A.

I have never had a bad experience here. The food is always made to perfection, and everyone is super friendly. They are also INCREDIBLY FAST!!! You can go to use the restroom after you order and most of the time your food will be ready before you are even done washing your hands.

    (5)
  • Victor C.

Meal was alright. Orders to go always look horrible, as if they just shove all the food into the container, compared to the in-house plated version. The cashier for tonight, Melissa, was especially rude. I asked for no beans and she acted as if I had asked for no chips on my nachos. Granted, she had looked especially bored and unamused when I walked up to her. This isn't the first time I've had this response though. Food? Okay. Service? Mediocre.

Dos has become a staple of fast, excellent, Tex-Mex food here in Davis for the past couple of decades because it's SO damn consistent! The servers can be a bit young and sometimes inexperienced, but they almost always have a smile and seem to genuinely enjoy working for the management. The food is ALWAYS fabulous, and served rather rapidly, considering that it's made fresh to order. I love the paella burrito!!! Great pieces of shrimp, steak and sausage that makes this taste different than any burrito I've ever had! I often call in my order, and then pick it up on the way home, and it takes about 10 minutes - - very convenient. It's all good stuff. Highly recommended!

A number of years ago dos used to charge extra if you wanted the chips that come with your meal first. They just started doing the same thing again. The really ridiculous part is they say on their menu that if you need extra chips, 'just ask'. Apparently this only applies of it's AFTER your meal is delivered. Seriously, if chips come with your meal why can't you get them first so you can enjoy them before your meal gets cold? They supposedly have an award winning salsa bar, why be jerks about customers who want to enjoy it?

Quality. Consistency. Value. Taste. Dos is the go-to place for our fam. Always terrific seasonal specials, esp their fish. The lean and mean burrito is great. And, you can't go wrong w the Mahi tacos. Awesome cerveza selection too. Dos rocks

Dos is great! It's definitely a location that wifey and I have to go to when we visit Davis. The Paella Burrito and Southwest Steak Burrito are standards, but their salads are amazing/huge! Additionally, they constantly have new specials that are generally worth trying. Also, if you are a CAAA member, you get 10% off. Be sure to show that alumni card!

Can I give 100 stars?! I've probably spent a thousand dollars going to this place for so many years. This is my favorite restaurant ever and I go at least three times a month. Usually more! I actually have only eaten the same thing since I first went. It was just so amazing I never needed to try something new off the menu!! Since this location is the original, it is the best. The other locations definitely don't compare! My only issues with this place are that the salsa is not consistent. Some days it is watered down and has barely any flavor and other days it's thick and just amazing! Also, the burrito I always get, I ask for mild. I like spicy food, I just prefer this burrito without the spice. When I ask for mild, they don't always come out mild. It still has a ton of peppers sometimes. I just pick them out. Oh well. Still going to come here all the time!

  • Mandi K.

My college years were spent eating out a lot and this place was one of my usual spots because the food is delicious! My go to is the Southwest Border Burrito which I change up a slight from what they usually put inside. I am also all about sauces and I love the variety of sauces you can try out. This is were I mix and make my own delightful creations. (spicier the better . Just FYI, the food portions are HUGE and Prob be able to share or save for a snack later. Only other tidbit I heard is NOT to sit where the peppers are hanging because things can fall on your head since these are fresh, real peppers meaning flies and so forth. Haven't had that happen yet......

After living in davis for 5 years I finally tried Dos Coyotes! And I must say it ia GOOD tex-mex food. I got the steak burrito and it was huge! The meat was the definitely the star though. Their salsa bar is not that great. There is nothing really spicy there... but overall pretty solid. If I want tex-mex food ill be back!

Now I remember why we rarely order from the Covell Blvd. Dos Coyotes. We have not had the correct or complete order in over 3 years. They have the worst quality control. I just looked up the ingredients for the Yin Yang Salad. I thought I must have read the menu incorrectly. Nope. The food preparer (definitely not a chef!) forgot the scallions and snow peas completely. There were 5-6 tiny bits of red pepper, a smattering of jicama and red cabbage. What it did have: tons of lettuce, a half cup of chicken(extra cost) and a 1/3 cup of cashews on top of a tortilla---all this for a little over ten dollars. Best part is--I called to let the cashier (Alicia) know that we did not receive what we ordered. I described what we did receive and that perhaps she should let the kitchen help know of their oversight. She told me I could come back for another. Who wants to drive back for a redo??? I told it that this was not terribly convenient and it would be another half hour before we could eat. She told me that if I was "upset" that maybe I "should not come back". Is that the management's policy? We have had better luck at the Cowell Blvd. Dos Coyotes.

This place is a standard favorite of ours. Good flavors in the food, great salsa bar, and excellent service. It's a casual spot, so you order at the counter and then take a seat and wait for them to bring your food out to you. There is a huge range of menu options, for all types of eaters (see below) and consistent. Also, they have a rotating seasonal menu that offers some (mostly meat-based) changes to their general menu. As a texmex place, there are plenty of vegetarian options, some what you'd expect, some very creative, and as cheese and sour cream are usually the only further limiting factors to a vegan meal, asking for the food without those creates plenty of vegan options (and they're totally accommodating!). There are some traditional gluten-free options, like a burrito bowl, and some more creative ones, like very filling meatless salads. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and while dogs could work with the outdoor seating, it's an enclosed patio and the dogs should probably be left at home if they can be. Good for one-on-one meals and good for groups. The people working at Dos are unfailingly kind and regularly go to extra trouble to make the experience pleasant in small ways, like crowd control on crowded Saturday lunchtimes. Always a favorite, no matter where I roam.

I enjoy the food here very much. Especially the mahi mahi tacos. On the other hand they have an employee that is pretty unprofessional. She wouldn't make eye contact, didn't have good knowledge of the menu and choices, she never greeted me or told me to have a nice day.

The food is very good. You order at the counter food and they bring it out. Often the seasonal specials are great. I eat here a lot. But the restaurant is freezing. Why run the AC in winter? I hate that. I would have offered 5 stars if it wasn't so cold there.

This Dos Coyotes, undoubtedly, has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I ordered a ranchero burrito earlier today over the phone, and immediately after the order was made, called back in order to specify that a food allergy prevented me from tolerating the guacamole. The manager refused to edit the order claiming that the burrito had already been made. This seemed incredibly unlikely, but nonetheless a food establishment shouldn't hesitate to accommodate for polite requests made by their paying customers. I felt dismissed, patronized, and unappreciated for being a customer at this restaurant. What I felt was the biggest insult of all though, was how the manager herself (Emma) questioned the legitimacy of my food allergy as a means to shoo me away. One would expect a little bit more of respect and professionalism from a manager. This restaurant will not send food back, regardless of the satisfaction level of their customer - even in cases of allergy. The "customer being first" is absolutely not a standard of service that this establishment upholds. Emma (the "manager") then proceeded to further aggravate the situation by laughing and mocking us with her employees, and I have truly never experienced behavior like this from a restaurant manager. I will never be returning to this restaurant and I advise all others who expect a certain level of respect from customer service to do the same.

It was ok... just ok. There were a lot of people so I assumed it would be good. We ordered 2 tacos each... they brought us tacos but not what we ordered. It would take some major convincing to go back.

A favorite. It's loud and busy whenever we go, but the food is great and the customer service is always outstanding, no matter how busy they are. We usually get our order to go, and they've never forgotten to add packages of chips and to review the order with us before we leave. We love the shrimp burrito, the ranchero burrito with its delicious sauce, the quesadillas and the sinfully cheesy nachos.

I decided to try Dos Coyotes again after being away for a while. I was pleasantly pleased with the service, especially from manager Michael Salas. The Mahi Mahi tacos were delicious and fresh and the Southwest Veggie Burrito was very good, and myself being allergic to MSG, I had no head ache or MSG related symptoms. Very Fresh Salsa Bar!

Most of the Davis restaurants are definitely ideal for college students, Dos Coyotes is no different with their affordable prices and huge... I mean HUGE portions. It is definitely more Tex-Mex than Mexican food but a better deal than your common Chipotle. I ordered the Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas and had enough for lunch the next day. Good flavors but nothing super special. if you are looking for something to fill you up this is a great spot to go to! Located within biking/driving distance from the Quarto living areas in Davis.

One of "go-to" places for fast Tex Mex food with a homemade taste. The staff are super friendly and very helpful if you can't decide on which tastey dish to order. This time around, I chose to get the ranchero southwest burrito. If you like cheese and red sauce, it's the way to go! Food quality and flavors are top notch. Served on a hot plate, the food's flavors steam before you, inviting you to dig right in and enjoy every bite. You can always spice it up more the the assortment of salsas the offer at the salsa bar ranging from mild to hot. To quench your thirst or cool things down, feel free to enjoy an ice cold beer from their selection or soft drink from their digital coke dispenser. (See picture from other yelpers for what the dispenser looks like). Many different flavors to choose from! I've tried the other menu items and all have resulted in the same pleasant taste experience. Enjoy....

I love Dos Coyotes! During the winter my favorite thing ever is their green chile stew (OMG amazing!!) and during the summer is either the nachos or ranchero burrito. So yummy!

Came back here again, and this time ordered the chicken enchilada plate. It was AMAZINGGGG! Melted cheese and warm enchilada sauce.. Amazing! Can't wait to come back-- I've found my favorite item here.

It was an ok experience. Went there for the first time and the food was tasty but not a fan of the cheese (got some Nachos as well). I would give it another try though.

The drinks and quesadilla were good, but the bread was slightly too dry. Some parts were slightly stale. But I'm eager to try the paella!

Maybe it's just me, but this is the dopest mainstream burrito place in nor cal. Better than chipotle and whatever else hands down. The paella burrito w/ guac is my fav, whenever I'm in Davis I try hitting up this spot.

Got there at 9:30pm on a Friday, doors were locked and staff didn't even acknowledge. On the door the hours are listed and it closes at 10:00pm. LAME!!!

I've been coming to this place since I was an undergrad at UCD. I still come here for lunch now and then. The food rarely disappoints and the service is consistently good. I've tried most items on the menu now and my favorites are the shrimp burrito, adobe steak salad, ranchero burrito and red chile enchiladas. This is a great place for casual dining, good food and reasonable prices. Highly recommend!

Dos Coyotes is like your awkward long-lost uncle: you know that he is not the most savory character around but you still like him and can't help to laugh at his jokes. But only once in a while. On a beautiful warm Saturday we wanted to have some Burgers and Brew but the place was a ZOO and not worth the wait. Several other options Downtown Davis were super swamped as well, and since it's been a while from last visit to Dos, we decided to give it a shot. Unlike Downtown, you can always count on North Davis to score a dinner table, even on a busy weekend. This location is a bit smaller then their South Davis sister, but the drill is the same. Order at the bar, get a number, wait for them to bring the food. Upon this last visit we had Yolo Mango Burrito, Green Chile enchiladas (steak), and kids chicken burrito. They also had some beers on tap so I went with Lagunitas Undercover Investigation. The prices are in line with other large Tex-Mex restaurant chains in the area but the food is much better. The rice is not Spanish rice that they serve in more authentic Mex restaurants (my preference), but the black beans make up for the slight lack of seasoning. The enchiladas might have had a bit too much cheese for my liking but the meat was done right so it's not a biggie. The Yolo Mango was huge and looked more like a wrap then a burrito but tasted delicious. To not make it all glowing and shiny, there is one thing that always bothers me about Dos: they have an awesome salsa bar but you only get chips with your plate, and it is not that much. It would be much better if they could give a basket of chips for the table BEFORE the main course arrives. But yes, the salsa bar is definitely the highlight here as they have every variety of mild, medium, and spicy salsas and condiments under the sun. Worth the visit just for that. Dos is not the most authentic Mexican food around. It is probably not even the top of the line Tex-Mex for that matter. But you know exactly what you will get here: great ratio of quality and quantity, fast service, and consistency. When all else fails Dos delivers.

Great tex-mex food, great service and atmosphere! Southwest burrito- my regular, which comes with chips, and access to the salsa bar. Chicken is charred just right with creamy guacamole and a super soft tortilla. One burrito always makes two meals for me. Salsas in the salsa bar are good across the board. The spiciness is very mild, so hot is not actually very hot, which I don't mind, but just as a note to others. Recommend: (+) Southwest burrito (+) Taco Salad (or any sald) (+) Quesadillas

Dos Coyotes is really a Davis staple, and it's still good years later. For my first time back I ordered the Yucatan Chicken Salad. The chicken breast was cooked pretty well, not too over cooked, and the salad had a lot of different toppings, all great quality. The only thing I would have liked more of was the lettuce. The dressing was also very tasty and tied the dish together very nicely. The best thing I like about Dos Coyotes is the freshness and quality of their ingredients. Normally after eating Mexican food, I feel overly sluggish and stuffed. However, after having Dos Coyotes, I was full without feeling like I hated myself. If you're looking for some gourmet, yet non-traditional Mexican food, look no further.

Good quality tex mex, yummy salsas, good price if you know what to order. I buy their green creamy salsa by the pint, it's that good! Their chicken is juicy and not dried out and stale tasting like a lot of other affordable options. Two gripes: 1) Their cashiers are super hit and miss. I've had very friendly people who were patient and helpful while also being pleasant to talk to. I've also had a few moody girls with bad attitudes who did not make me want to return. 2) I got a burrito to go, and it was simply places in a box unwrapped with chips and a little salad and some orange slices. While convenient, it also made for a most and unpleasant tortilla once I got home. Why not wrap the burritos in tinfoil? C'est la vie. I'll still be back.

This is the place to be if you want tex mex. The atmosphere is great and comfortable. The portions are well worth it. Items that I recommend: Salmon burrito- eat this with lemon!! They always put decent chunks of salmon in the burrito. It's fresh and full of flavor. Asian chicken salad (forgot the actual name)- this thing is huge!! I love it because the variety in the vegetables. They have snow peas and jicama and everything else that's salad. The green chile enchilada was only ok.

This place is really good! I live across the street from this restaurant so it's my place to go when I am craving for some Mexican food and I am lazy to go anywhere else. Their burritos are delicious and their salads are huge and fulfilling too! I've had their Border burrito and their wet burrito which were both very good with the right amount of flavoring. I've also had their Yucatan Salad and their Adobe Salad which are both great and they give a lot with a tortilla underneath it. I am never able to finish it in one sitting so I always have some leftovers to eat later. Place is clean and nicely set up and the service here is great. The people are quick about the orders you make!

I have been a loyal, faithful customer of Dos Coyotes ever since moving to Davis-however, I always enjoyed the food at the SOUTH Davis location. Tonight was my first time at the North Davis location, and I was disgusted. First, there were flies at the salsa station, and salsa was spilled everywhere; there was dirt in the container that collects water from the large ceramic water jug; and the food was awful. I am a big fan of enchiladas with red sauce! At this location, it seems they cook their enchiladas with straight red paste from a can or jar! It was bitter and awful! I will never be coming back to this location, and I wish I had not gone in the first place. Also, no free chips in a basket like at the South Davis location; and they're not very generous with their guacamole or sour cream servings.

After reading some of these reviews, I felt that I needed to write my own to do it some justice. I've been coming to Dos since I was a kid. Always a staple, always a favorite. If I still lived in Davis, I would eat at Dos at least once a week. Even though I don't, I 9 times out of 10 I will eat here when I visit family. They have never once gotten my order wrong and never once have I had anything that wasn't fresh. The staff have never been unfriendly and your orders are ready so quick that they are sometimes ready before you sit down. As for favorites: Burritos: Southwest, Shrimp burritos, Border burrito, Paella. (That's the majority of them, I think. Which means they're all good for different reasons.) Salad: Adobe (you can turn it into a burrito when you've eaten half the salad and save it for later- a two for one deal). Nachos: Navajo Nachos (all the guac!) Salsa: Green "tomatillo" (sweet and incredible. You can also order it in quart and pint sizes if you want to take it home.) Others: Howlin Tostada As an added bonus, I know the guy (Bobby "Coyote") who started the restaurant who is very nice and friendly. And obviously he's doing so well that he was able to open several locations, including Sacramento. If you go to Sac State, there's a Dos very close to campus. And coming soon they're have online ordering! Hooray for Dos!

I discovered this place while going to UC Davis (graduated 2001). I was (and still am) in love with their salmon burrito. Every time I'm in or near town, I make it a point to stop here and order the salmon burrito.

Stopped by for date-night with my beautiful wife tonight, and I had the green chili chicken stew, and she had the apple chicken Quesadilla. Both were on the "specials" menu, and both were EXCELLENT! The stew had some heat, but not overwhelming at all. The quesadilla was really flavorful. Wife and I shared both dishes, and we took to dunking the quesadilla slices into the stew...awesomeness! The portions were very generous, and we left stuffed. I highly recommend these two dishes. Oh, today's date-night, and I'm sitting here writing a review!?!?! I'm OUT...good eating!!! :-)

I have never grasped the concept of "Tex-mex" food. To me, it just tastes like less flavorful Mexican food. I feel like the whole term of "Tex-mex" is just a more marketable way of saying "unauthentic Mexican food sold here!" Anyways, here at Dos, it isn't much different. If you are craving a good burrito, taco, or salad, just head across the way to Guads or pretty much any taqueria in Davis. +1 star because they do give good portion size here, but by how expensive it is, they better!

I was able to try this joint out while I was in town for a conference at UC Davis. I was trying to be healthyish so I ordered the salmon spinach salad even though I really wanted to try a burrito. You place your food order first and then they bring the food to your table, we decided to sit outside on the patio since it was a nice day outside. The flies were a little out of control but other than that it was pretty relaxing. My salmon salad was pretty solid, it was topped with some mango salsa and the vinaigrette that the salad was tossed in was a bit mild but was good. The salmon was super fresh but was a bit bland. I would love to come back and try out some other things on their menu!

Nicest customer service. Smallest burrito ever. Either I eat way more than the average person or am big boned or it was the smallest burrito I've ever seen.

Having come from SoCal, I had never experienced the magic that is Dos Coyotes before coming to school at UC Davis. In my time here, and especially since I moved to North Davis, it has quickly become one of my staples. Rarely do you find a restaurant with such phenomenal consistency. Even if the food is by no means the best Mexican food I've eaten, or even really Mexican food at all, the quality is always very satisfactory. No matter what I order, I can expect a solid meal that is sure to fill me up. I LOVE the chips and salsa here - the salsa bar has a great selection, whatever your spice tolerance may be. Even if your meal doesn't include chips on the menu, you can usually count on the counter staff to sneak you a bag of chips free of charge (at least in my experience). I have good experiences with everything I've ordered here - the taquitos, burritos, tacos, spinach quesadilla, etc. The ingredients are fresh and well-cooked. The rice is rather bland, but when combined with the beans, this isn't really a problem. My only real problem with this place is trying to find a table. The staff doesn't help you find an open table, so if there isn't a place to sit after you order, you have to stand around hoping a table will open up before your food comes out. Nevertheless, the tasty food and convenient location keep me coming back!

Ordered the Tres Tacos and guacamole. Guacamole inedible. I've lived in Mexico and traveled there extensively This is was not guacamole. Could not taste the avocado. Strong taste of onion, cilantro and something else. Really felt I wasted $5. The tacos were ok; just. Nothing special. Probably will not return.

I love Mexican food! Every time I visit my girlfriend we end up going here. So far I think I've tried just the border burrito and Santa Fe Nachos multiple times. I've never tried seafood in my mexican food, but I've heard the Shrimp Burrito is bomb so I guess I'll grab that next time. I love their availability of salsas. Most of them are good, some of them are eh, but that's fine with me, I can just load up on the ones I like. Service is relatively nice, and they have the nice soda machine where you can get a bunch of flavors. I'm looking forward to coming soon. I'm in Davis right now so sometime in the next couple days.

I've wanted to like this place for years, but just never have been able to find something to love here. Several of my siblings and friends live the place, but I've found it too loud inside and my food consistently was not prepared as ordered. I get that it is supposed to be somewhat industrial feeling inside with the decor and all, but whenever I've tried to eat there and get stuck inside, I can't hear anyone at my table without shouting...not my idea of a good time. If you luck out and get an outdoor table, get ready to feel like you're an animal at the zoo. The little cage is by a heavily trafficked spot in the marketplace and everyone just looks over to see what you're eating. The food itself isn't really Mexican, but kind of that fusion-Mexican stuff imo. It seems presentation is almost more important than getting the orders correct and quick, friendly service. But, like I said, many people I know love this Dos. It's just not for me, I guess.

My wife and I ordered catered food from Dos Coyotes for a luncheon with friends on Sunday. We ordered the Taco bar, Yin Yang Salad, chicken and cheese enchaladas and shimp skewer platter. The Taco bar ingredients were ample and flavorful. The enchaladas were very good and I recommend them. The Yin Yang salad was not particularly flavorful, and the dressing was blah and just seemed to wilt the salad rather then contribute to the flavor. The shrimp skewer platter was aweful! There were tiny pieces fo shrimp on 30 skewers for $42. To say this was a rip off would be an understatement. In short, my suggestion is find another place to do your catering. Came to visit some friends in Davis, CA for the second time. The last time I was here we at at Dos Coyotes and it was great. This time I took the advice of my friend and ordered the Adobe salad, it usually comes on a flour tortilla but we asked for it on corn tortillas because my fiend is gluten free. It was AMAZING really healthy and all the flavored were great together. We shared a salad and I was afraid it wouldn't fill me up, my friend assured me it would. The salad was HUGE, we were both full by the end of our meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was great, it gives you a great welcoming feeling. Everyone is talking and having a good time. One of my favorites parts was their salsa bar, it's not your typical boring salsa bar, they had great choices. Overall, probably one of the better Mexican restaurants, but not exactly authentic.

When I inquired about the Bleu/Bacon Guacamole special, I was kindly warned that it was a rather strange concoction. Unfortunately it's hard to deter me with a warning. I normally think, "Oh really, now why would that be?" So I tried it, and it was quite strange indeed to have a couple of extremely savory ingredients battling for power in something like guacamole. I applaud innovation, but I think offering samples to interested customers might be a good idea here. I like some things at Dos and not others. This nearly $6 cup of guacamole counts among the latter.

Yum!! I've been here twice while visiting Davis. When you walk in, you order at the counter and get a number and sit at a table. I love this because if you come in groups, you don't have to worry about splitting the bill! The next thing you should be doing is going to the salsa bar to get a little of everything! My favorites are the green salsa which is sweet and also the salsa which isn't really a salsa but more like salad with cabbage, jalapenos, and tomatoes. I used it as a side to my burrito. The first time I came here I ordered the Southwest Dinner salad. The portions are really big here! It was pretty good for something that's so low calorie. This time, I ordered the paella burrito which my friend recommended to me. This burrito was the bomb. I normally don't like Mexican food at all and granted, this is a little on the americanized side BUT I swear I could eat their paella burrito every single day. I ate half the burrito and saved half for lunch the next day. Side note, while I was eating at Dos Coyotes, we sat next to a man who ordered a gigantic chicken salad. I swear, it would last me 4 meals easily. I'm pretty sure that was the yucatan chicken salad. It was basically a gigantic open faced burrito. Anyways, love this place! Definitely have to get to the paella burrito when I come back to Davis!

Always yummy but it's no way near being Mexican food, super Americanized and lacking the flavors of great food.

Awesome food every time I come. Food is always very fresh and reasonably priced. They offer water with togos which is nice. My only complaint is that the salsa bar has been slowly appearing less and less fresh. I love the medium with the big chunks of onion. I've ordered here about twice a month for the last 7 years, and it's always been very fresh until my last 4-5 visits where the salsa looks very old and a hard crust has built up on the rim. I'm sure it's just a temporary hick up, but that is seriously one of my favorite parts of this place--the salsa. That said, highly recommended.

The Green Chile Burrito is barely edible I'd recommend something else, better yet somewhere else. The green chile was dreadful, luckily there was barely any on the burrito. The soggy tortilla was completely inedible, and the rice and pulled pork were mediocre. I'd take Chipotle any day.

This was my second time visiting Dos Coyotes. I ordered a burrito the first time I went to this place and liked it a lot. Hence, returned for a lunch with friends. This time, I ordered their Daily Enchilada special. As we came in for a late lunch, the restaurant was not crowded and service was fast. The enchilada was so-so, nothing exceptional. Would probably not return!

I wanna like this place sooooo much because I know many folks here in Davis who love it But I have tried several times and just feel flavor is mediocre on the dishes. I tried, carne asada burrito, fish tacos, salad with pepitas it's all okay, honestly it's not bad but it's not Mexican food, it's gringo style and if that's your bag then you should enjoy, if your looking for authentic Mexican it's not here.

Dos Coyotes is your typical tex mex place with standard burrito, taco, and salad fare. Their food is good though, particularly the Adobe salad, Yolo burrito (when they have it), and Tres Tacos basket. Although missing food items and improperly prepared dishes (over-cooked protein, having ingredients specifically asked to be omitted accidentally put in the dish, etc.) are a common occurrence here. I cannot count how many times I have ordered a salad to-go and it there is no dressing to speak of. Aside from the food mishaps, which I can forgive easily (shit happens), the service is what is sorely lacking here. While every manager I have dealt with has been pleasant (expected, since the only reason I've spoken to them is because of a problem), the workers definitely have their off days--more off than on it seems. There have been many an occasion when the worker behind the register is impersonal, unaffected, and with the slightest hint of attitude. That being said I do understand the type of place this is, but for the slightly overpriced menu items I am paying for I expect a little bit better customer service. Three stars simply because it is my "whatever" place that I only really go to because it is close to my apartment. OK food, but doesn't exceed my expectations.

First place I ate at when I moved to Davis, and I don't regret it! My burrito had chicken, mango, and avocado with a spicy kick at the back. Lots of local brews available, and their salsa bar is a plus. Would definitely eat here again.

As a UCD grad, I have many fond memories here. The fresh salads, deliciously juicy and flavorful burritos, perfectly carbonated sodas and AH-MAZING salsa bar..all consistently excellent for the past 15 years. Now, they have added a state-of-the-art beverage fountain that I can't even begin to describe. The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned, and service is just right. This place gets crowded during peak hours but is worth the wait. It is a must stop whenever I am in town.

I've been eating here for at least once a week for the past two years. They are never friendly and often mess up me & my boyfriend's burrito. Either didn't put guacamole, have super burnt chicken which ruins it or forgets a side. They really need better customer service and quality control.

There are too many Mexican restaurants in Davis and we especially don't need 2 franchise Dos Coyotes in this small college town! I love open bar salsas and they have a good selection on that! Pretty pricey for Mexican food in Davis, but they give reasonable portions for the price you pay!

  • Cynthia L.

I used to work here and the best part was the free food :) Favorites are the yolo burrito (sadly this is a seasonal special), mahi mahi burrito, and any kind of ranchero burrito! You can get any burrito in a bowl, just ask! I like to get my tacos on flour tortillas instead of corn too. A lot of people don't know this, but you can get free refills on any order that comes with chips (all burritos and tacos) The salads are HUGE! They can feed two people completely, trust me. Don't forget about the super high tech soda machine that everyone loves either ;D Great selection of salsas at the salsa bar. My favorite is the slightly sweet and tangy green tomatillo salsa! I add it to almost everything. This place is also great for large groups, they are happy to accomodate big parties and will move tables around for you. They also do fundraisers, just grab a manager to find out more.

I have been here twice & it's been good both times. It's a busy place & can be quite loud/echoey. That said the service is good. It is southwest/Mexican/California style so don't expect a taqueria. Tonight I had the steak enchiladas & they had strawberry salsa at the salsa bar. Such a good combo! The mango chicken quesadilla, tostada salad & fish tacos were good too. It has its own flavor, but if you like that, its a good place :-)

It is right across from the street I live on, so it's my go to place when I'm too lazy to go anywhere farther. The food is amazingly delicious. There's so much flavor in everything. Their homemade salsa is really good too. They catered for my club once, and they were really good about everything. They sent back emails promptly, and my food was ready on time. The staff are all super nice as well. Bottomless chips for dine-ins! On the other hand, they made mistakes 2 out of the 4 times I was there. They gave my friend my steak burrito and gave me his chicken burrito, and we didn't realize it until we bit into it. However, they offered to give me a new burrito. The second time, my wet burrito was not wet, but they fixed that as well afterwards.

The food here has consistently been very good over the years, but the owners of late have continually jacked up the prices. A seafood burrito now costs $8.95....hence the reduction in stars. The value is waning some. Lunch for 2 costs close to $20 with water. Much more increases, and going will get shelved for better valued establishments, or do-it-yourself.

I like Dos Coyotes when Im craving some Tex-Mex food. The ingredients are fresh and well prepared, and they use quality meats. I love their chips! And the salsa bar is not bad, although Ive had better salsas at other restaurants. Their soda machine is so cool! If you havent used it, its just one spout that you choose from a touch screen what type of drink you want, and they have all the diets/flavors/variations you can possibly want! They even have sparkling water, which totally sold me! Parking at this location sucks pretty bad, because its always PACKED at Safeway and you will probably have to park across the parking lot. They have tons of indoor and some outdoor seating. I do not like the inside table tops, they smell like pennies :( Prices are ok, they give you large portions so I guess it's worth it. My fave is the nachos with black beans, steak, sour cream, guacamole and cheese. Yummy!

I graduated in March 2011 and I still miss this place all the time! Living across the street, Dos Coyotes was literally a crosswalk away which means I enjoyed their food often! Dos has a lot of great healthy options but as a college kid, we usually went for what came with the most food for the price! I was really into the Sedona Taquito plate for a while. They were huge and came with a side of rice, beans and tortilla chips! My friend got me hooked on the Santa Fe Nachos. When the waitress brought them to our table for the first time I was in shock over how much food it was! Just a huge plate of blue corn tortilla chips absolutely covered in melted cheese, steak, a sweet hot sauce and rice! (I always substituted rice for the beans because I really don't like beans on my nachos) This plate is easily big enough for two to share! It definitely became my favorite and every time I go to Davis for a visit I pop in to get a taste of my College days!

When you order a salad, you get an unfolded, rice-free, vegetable-loaded burrito. Or at least that's what I consider it. I ordered an Adobe salad with pulled pork, and everything (pulled pork, black beans, red onions, corn, red bell peppers, salad greens, jicama, a few cherry tomatoes, some cheese, sour cream, guac) is nicely placed atop a flour tortilla. It's huge, it's filling, and unless you are really hungry, you will have leftovers. I also like their Shrimp burrito, which comes with 6 juicy grilled shrimp.

The paella burrito was soooo good! The Mahi Mahi was DELICIOUS! And the soda machine is out of this world!

Good food for a decent price. Their portions are huge, and they change out their specials depending on the season. I love their asada burritos with "dawg sauce." Scary name, delicious taste. There's lots of salsas to choose from and they are always delish! They have the crazies fancy soda machine ever, although last time we were there it was having issues, but it was fixed promptly! Oh! And there's a yogurt place next door, if you still have room in your belly after stuffing it full of burrito.

  • Cory H.

Don't get me wrong I love the burritos and the chips and salsa here, but on two separate occasions I have had maggots fall onto my table. Flies live in the dried chilies they have hanging around the place for decoration and the maggots fall from them. So just make sure to get a table not below some chilies? That's my best advice. Extra points for the amazing soda machine that let's you pick a soda and a flavor for a personalized drink. They will also give you more chips if you ask when you are eating there.

This place is okay but isn't was good as Chipotle (at least they accept Aggie Cash!). You order at the counter, get a number and then they bring the food out to you. They have a good variety of burritos, tacos, and "burrito bowls." If you are a poor college student who is in the area and is sick of DC food then you will greatly appreciate this restaurant.

Dos Coyotes is honestly the only place that I've been to that can make seafood inside Tex-Mexican food taste delicious. Usually when I try seafood in burritos or tacos at other places, it's super bland. Dos Coyotes really knows how to pump up the flavor with ingredients that complement the seafood perfectly. I've tried the paella, shrimp, and mahi mahi burritos and they are all delicious! For the shrimp and mahi mahi burritos, I usually like to opt out the cheese for red pepper aioli (which comes in the paella burrito) instead and it is so good. All their burritos are packed with a perfect ratio of ingredients. They also serve all their burritos with a side of tortilla chips and have a salsa bar in the corner of the restaurant as well.

Dos Coyotes is the best play for a burrito. Hands down. My usual for the last 17 years has been the Ranchero Burrito A La Carte which comes with your choice of grilled meat plus a wet cheese/onion sauce over the burrito. It is so good! No fillers either..no rice, no beans, just meat, guac, and salsa inside. Their homemade chips go well with the cheese sauce or just top it with some meat and you're good to go! I've heard their fish tacos are excellent but I never want to stray from my favorite dish...hmm actually, maybe I'll get both next time! Don't forget to check out their generous salsa bar. I should just buy a gallon of their salsas to bring back home. Unfortunately, there are only locations in the Davis, Sacramento area...none in the bay area. That's why Dos Coyotes is always a stop or pit stop whenever we had up to Davis, Lake Tahoe, Reno, or Sacramento...

Everyone raved about the shrimp burrito so I gave it a try and, much to my dismay, there were only 4 measly shrimp in the whole thing. The flavor was good and the overall size was big but come on, one shrimp every four bites ain't a shrimp burrito. My wife had the shrimp adobe salad and had the same outcome. Lots of lettuce and 4 stinking shrimp. I've been eating here for years and their food is consistently very good but they have really gone el cheapo on the shrimp items. Stick with the chicken, beef or pork if you want your money's worth.

This is a long-standing Mexican joint. It was fair new when I lived in Davis back in 1995. This was my first time back since then and little has changed. My margarita on the rocks was good. It was poured from a bottle (one I did not recognize), but it was a step up from Jose Cuervo and did not look like radioactive solution. My carnitas burrito was good and a fair size. The salsa bar is adequate, expect their "hot" isn't.

Great food but such rude service. It was my first time dining at this location, and I will not be coming back. My cashier, Adam was so unenthusiastic. I thought maybe he was having a bad day but then as soon as he was done ringing me up, he turned around and was chatting and laughing with his coworkers. During our transaction he did not once make eye contact or smile. I hope your manager sees this cause the attitude needs to go. You have delicious food and a super cool environment so you can do much better than a stuck up asshole. Check out the south Davis location instead!!

This place is NOT Mexican food, but it IS delicious. I grew up in Davis and have been obsessed with Dos for as long as I can remember. I usually hate ordering the same things over and over, but here I've ordered the same three things all my life. From ages tiny to 13 it was the Southwest Veggie Burrito (no salsa or guac because I was weird little child). Since then I've either ordered the Border Chicken Burrito or the Adobe Salad with Chicken (dressing on the side cause this is one salad that doesn't need anything else). The salads are two meals easily and without the dressing they keep decently. The other items on the menu range from good to kinda weird. If you like burritos without beans, check out the Mahi Mahi burrito. Not my style, but my mom ordered it for years. Two warnings: 1) The Southwest Burritos with meat are pretty much entirely meat. The Border burrito is essentially the Southwest Veggie + Meat, so I'd go for that if you like beans and rice and all that good stuff in your burritos. 2) They make a looot of mistakes on orders. I can't count the number of times they've given my vegetarian parents carnitas burritos. If you order on the phone, make sure they repeat your order back to you correctly! Even then there's no guarantee. It's a testament to how much my family loves this place that we keep returning on a semi-weekly basis.

Always solid Mexican food. The regular menu items are good, but the specials are consistently great. Some of my favorites include the white cheddar and chicken quesadilla in winter, the Yolo burrito in summer, and the ranch-hand burrito in fall. The salsa bar is huge and can be overwhelming at first. My favorite year-round item is definitely the Garden salsa. A little bit chunky like pico de gallo, but with just the right amount of spice. The seasonal salsas are always a favorite. The cranberry concoction that comes out around the holidays is delicious and the strawberry version in the spring is a nice change-up from the traditional salsas. This location has a tendency to get slammed on weekends. Be prepared to fight for a table if you're going anytime around a meal.

Just had a shrimp fajita and roasted veggie salad from the specials board. Oh my gosh, it was sooo good! Large chunks of roasted tomato, peppers (bell and something spicier) and sweet onion. The grilled shrimp portion was generous, and they were cooked to a turn...light char on the outside, juicy on the inside. It was a hearty meal, with refried beans included. We had a shady table in the courtyard which was super nice. I left satisfied in almost every way. My only suggestion would be more flavorful salad dressing. The cilantro-lime dressing was creamy and not very strong in flavor. I anticipated a zesty vinaigrette style dressing. This was easy enough to fix with a variety of salsas from the salsa bar. I would definitely order the same dish again.

It's decent. Food is hit or miss. BUT... I'm so tired of their messing up our orders that I finally had to write a review. We often do take-out, so it's an inconvenience to discover mistakes upon arriving home. Tonight we ordered a quesadilla with black beans for our 3 year old, and we got a quesadilla with ASPARAGUS. And hubby's bean/cheese burrito was nowhere near warm. I think the beans had just been sitting out for awhile. No visible sign of melted cheese anywhere. Our general conclusion is that they just can't handle rush hour.

Dos Coyotes is a pretty good joint. I was traveling on a road trip with a couple of friends and was able to stop by a decent place to eat (instead of resorting to the typical McDonalds or Subway). They food gets to your table pretty fast, and there is a wide selection of many different menu items to choose from. I ordered the Yucatan Chicken Salad and it was very very good. It had a decent mix of different vegetables - cabbage and avocado included - yummy! The chicken was very well seasoned and delicious and juicy. One bite definitely screamed freshness and variety. The salsa selection is also very good - they had a whole bar of it. Not only did they have a variety of different salsas, but they also had some of the delicious avocado sauce that I love. I am a HUGE fan of avocados in all shapes, sizes and forms, and definitely went to town on putting that on my salad. Sooooo delicious. Finally, a nice perk of Dos Coyotes is the little soda machine that has a computerized system for you to select the drink that you want once you order a fountain drink. So much fancier than the typical dispensers. You'll have a lot of fun playing with it (just don't play with it too much to get you kicked out). Bottom line: Good food, speedy and nice avocado sauce.

The worst Dos Coyotes I've ever been to... And I've been to almost all of them, including the one at the airport. Quick review because I'm in disbelief; this Dos Coyotes had flies buzzing around, screwed up all three of our orders, and the chicken in my border burrito and my to-go Nachos were dry and scarce. MEH. Try the other Davis one... or do what I do and go to the Arden Fair Dos Coyotes. :]

Navajo Nachos. The. Best. Ever. Be sure to get 'em with steak! The medium garden salsa is like nothing else - no other salsa anywhere can compare.

I used to prefer Taqueria Guadalajara for the price but Dos Coyotes has won me over. They have a nice variety and when I am in the mood Dos always hit the Tex-Mex comfort food spot. There are two locations; this one is in North Davis. My favorite part about Dos is their seasonal menu items. They are creative and tasty. I loved the Mango Dorango salad but that was part of their seasonal menu from years ago. But their permanent dishes are still good, like the Salmon Burrito, Border Burrito, Ranchero Burrito, Adobe Salad, Yucatan Chicken Salad, and the Steak Enchilada Plate. At some point I want to tr every item on the menu. They are friendly and have a nice salsa bar. What I recommend: -- Ranchero Burrito (a la carte or plate)

Oh...how I miss thee. When I went to school at Davis, I used to come here all the time. Sadly, almost four years had lapsed since I had the pleasure of eating here...that was, until yesterday! On our drive back from Reno, my boyfriend and I stopped here for a late lunch. To my disbelief, everything is pretty much the same price, including my beloved paella burrito! Well...it went up like $0.25 but considering inflation and all, I find it amazing. Dos not does skimp on ingredients and that is why I love this place. Plus, this is not your ordinary burrito joint...they have some really creative things on their menu (including a pulled pork burrito that is part of their specials right now). And how great is their salsa bar?! Where else are you going to find 8-12 different salsas on any given day? My favorite was this grilled corn salsa that they made back in the day but the fresh strawberry salsa I tried yesterday was pretty delicious too. Paella burrito...you are still amazing (although not as good as before). Until next time, I shall dream about you...

Yummy!!!! Dos Coyotes Border Cafe (or "Dos" as the locals call it) has some of the best food in Davis. The burritos and guacamole dishes are excellent, and the prices are unbeatable. Then there's the service too (it's just amazing)!! It can get crowded at times, but remember the golden rule: don't seat yourself until you order!!

This was one of my favorite restaurants until they recently decided that a main ingredient was "too expensive" to include with the meal. They have the best pico degallo around but will no longer allow the customer access to it. When I asked I was repeatedly told that it was too expensive. I was able to persuade them to sell me some, but it was like pulling teeth. So saddened to see my favorite restaurant lose its customer focus.

Their enchiliadas are gross! Made of mushy flour tortillas and a sauce that has no body. GROSS! Worst food EVER!

Dos Coyotes is definitely an institution in Davis, unfortunately the food here just doesn't do it for me. During my days at UC Davis I came here more times than I can count, and it was never my idea. College kids seem to universally love this place, and I'm apparently the exception that proves the rule. Pros: The chips and salsa bar is great. I love having the ability to mix and match different salsas. If there isn't one that you like, you can blend them to your taste. Cons: Everything else. I've seriously tried everything on the menu and there is only one thing that I don't hate, and that's the paella burrito. I love paella in general and I would much prefer to eat it on it's own, but they only way to order it here is in a burrito. I hate the tortillas they use here, they are incredibly thick and greasy. No matter what you order it turns soggy in a matter of minutes. The tortilla is always wet and loses it's texture. The best way to eat the burritos here is with a knife and fork, and even then it's hard to eat it before it gets soft and gross. You can't go to UCD without eating here at least once, just do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else after that.

This place is clean, has friendly wait staff (with long, perfectly curled hair), and, and HUGE portions. Best be sharing the burritos, because both my sister and I found that we only could finish at most half of our order. Nachos aren't super special, but the salsa bar that they have is quite delicious. I love having variety. I only wish that they provided bigger cups for the salsa, because I kept on getting up to get more to fill my obsession with the tomatoey goodness. Super delicious. Just wish the wait time was a little shorter.

5.0 Stars I used to frequent the South Davis Dos Coyotes location, but I've been to this North Davis location too. Since my dining experience here was very similar in terms of menu items, I'll borrow my review from the South Davis one. Dos Coyotes is not your traditional Mexican taqueria and it serves more of a Tex-Mex style of cooking. This doesn't mean though it doesn't deliver awesome tasting food. From enchiladas to salads to burritos to tacos, there is something for everyone. Trying Dos Coyotes for the first time? I highly recommend getting the Ranchero Burrito. The sauce on this wet burrito is sooooo tasty! It's basically a Southwest burrito baked with their signature ranchero sauce and melted cheese. The sauce has a slightly sweet and savory flavor to it and when mixed with the cheese it just accentuates the already amazing burrito. The burrito starts with a flour tortilla and is stuffed with cheese, guacamole, salsa, and your choice of chicken, steak, carnitas, or rice and beans. I went with steak and it was tender and flavorful. What makes this burrito different from other Mexican restaurants is the fact there is no filler. It's practically stuffed with meat, guacamole, and salsa. On the side you're provided with chips that are light and very crispy. OMG, I want a Steak Ranchero Burrito right now! If you love salsa like I do, Dos Coyotes offers a wide variety in their salsa bar that you can get unlimited refills from. I remember seeing at least 6 different types to choose from ranging from mild all the way up to hot. There's the standard Pico de Gallo and there's a unique sweet and tangy green tomatillo salsa that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. The green salsa pairs so well with the chips. Owners of Dos Coyotes, please please open up a Dos Coyotes location closer to the Bay Area. I really miss all the amazing Mexican food your establishment provides. I need my fix of "Dos". Geez, I sound addicted. I need rehab. == A MUST TRY! ==

On my most recent trip, I had a Yolo Burrito which was delicious, just like everything else I have ever had here. The amazing salsa bar, comfortable dining environment, easy parking situation and friendly staff are also reasons why I love coming here. It is a great spot for large groups because you get to pay at the counter and there is plenty of seating and the salsa bar is one the best I've ever seen.

Great food and great service I order my food and when they told me it will take 10minutes I was expecting more like 30 minutes but he was right it only took about 10 minutes. I would be coming here more often

A word about the salsa bar. Stocking the salsa bowls with shallow, 1/2 tsp wooden serving spoons does not inspire me to ration myself. Rather it inflames the 3 year old part of my personality that says, "Oh, you don't want me to take too much salsa because you don't think I'm a big kid who can be trusted to act with self-control? Well, let me just act down to your expectations and stand here for as long as it takes to ladle too much salsa onto my plate." Other than that I love this place. I like the California twist on Tex-Mex, including a lot more fresh vegetables and how they are always mixing up the menu. The portions are huge and the chips are delish, as are the salsa varieties. The computerized soda machine from the future is a little hard for old people like myself to figure out, but I guess at 29 I have to just accept that I am always going to be confused by new-fangled technology.

Please be kidding me. How could I not have reviewed this place?! This was a Davis staple to me. I think one of my "brothers" introduced me to the place when I was a freshman here. I used to hate burritos because my idea of a burrito was the type they used to (still?) sell in elementary school lunches, with mystery meat, refried beans and cheese--basically all the things I loathe (just throw in olives and you'll have yourself a winner). But behold, Dos Coyote's lean & mean market burritos! (On a whole wheat tortilla, black beans, and if I recall correctly, I'd add avocado if I were feeling particularly rich.) It was good stuff, and I really like the salsa they have for the chips. I used to get the mild one with just tomatoes and onions, but after my discovery of the one with mangoes during my last year there, I was a goner. During my last two quarters there, our trio would go out once every two weeks for dinner to try out all the places we'd never been to. We called it "team bonding," but it was really just an excuse to eat because food is amazing and fuels your soul. This was one of our trio's standard go-to places for celebratory dinners after we'd powered through yet another performance without making our coach cringe (yeah, we're awesome, I know). I'd also bike here after volunteering at Sutter to get lunch if I happened to actually have such a time luxury. Their little to-go containers for the salsa (and my endless mountains of tupperware) helped satiate my never-ending hunger on exceptionally long school days. :]

I love their food here, only downside is that you can't get unlimited chips like the other Mexican places. But I don't care, their food is one of the best Mex I have eaten at here in Davis.

  • Jeff G.

Eh...This is a generous three stars. Their salsa bar selection is vast but not one of the salsa flavors popped out to us as amazing. The food is plentiful but their burritos were not nearly as good as Rubios. And quite honestly it was kind of a let down. I'd normally give a place like this 2 stars but their soda machine rocks. Orange Mellow Yellow? Sure...Lime Diet Coke? Yep... Their soda machine has around 200 soda options. Pretty neat. Would I go back? Nope. But I might stop by and get a soda to go.

I've been to the South Davis location several times, but not once at this location. Even though I live closer to the North Davis location, it boggles my mind why I've never dined here in the past. Anyways, DC never fails on serving you the best, no matter which location you're at. I've never experienced a large crowd in South Davis, but in North Davis, HOLY COW. I usually get the burritos, but wanted to try something this time. I ordered the Yucatan Chicken Salad and wow, do they pile on the greens and toppings! The dish itself can probably satisfy your entire day's worth of veggies, or more (which is not a bad thing!). Served on a tortilla, probably for you if you ever want to transform it into a burrito. Loved every single part of the salad and the mango salsa was a nice addition to it. I devoured the entire plate (except for the tortilla) all by myself like a Tasmanian and walked out the restaurant all satisfied and guilt-free. I think this is probably my new favorite dish! Can't beat their salsa bar. Love.

I wasn't impressed. The chicken tacos were dry and bland. I could have done better at home. I was certainly disappointed to have paid for such a meal. Tasted like grilled chicken, cubed, placed on two small flour tortillas with a huge pile of lettuce and cheese. If there was salt, it certainly wasn't enough- and I'm no salt addict, either. My husband was slightly more pleased with his cheese enchilada but not overly impressed, either. We were also surprised that there is a salsa bar but you have to order a meal that comes with chips. So no snacking while you wait. I guess it saves on calories. All that said, they did have some good salsas. Not enough to redeem it, though. I won't be back.

Aww man. Dos didn't deliver today after I told my DH "This used to be my favorite spot in college." In fact, it's probably the one last remaining restaurant that my now older palette still enjoys. However, my steak southwest burrito was cold at first bite. "Is it supposed to be cold?" I asked my husband. Of course he didn''t know, "but may be it's cuz of the salsa," he said. I don't think it was supposed to be cold. Not to mention some of my chips were stale. He said he wasn't blown away by his tacos. I'm so embarrassed. *sigh* I hope he'd want to come and eat at Dos with me again, but I don't think he'd be too enthused if I was craving it.

Thank you god for Dos Coyotes. Without this, I feel like Davis would be a restaurant wasteland (and Guadalajara originated in Woodland, so I don't give Davis credit for that). This is really the only place where just the salsa selection would make me happy. However, the salmon burrito and the adobe salad are legendary. You really cannot go wrong with either of those, however, I also can advocate for the paella burrito. While it is usually packed and loud, they do keep the restaurant clean and organized. Overall, this is the one place I can tell people to eat at in Davis without feeling a bit of shame.

so I'm leaving Davis in a few days, I decided to get back to Yelp and do a mass review of all the places I've been over the past year. Dos Coyotes is a little pricey, it's not too bad though. Don't go in expecting true mexican food, it's definitely tex-mex or Southwestern mexican, which is fine. They have a nifty little soda machine, too. Their portions are more than adequate. Service is pretty good, and the kitchen is fast. I've had a paella burrito, which was actually a little smaller than I expected considering how much is packed inside, and the tacos a few times. Everything comes with chips too, which is a bonus. A pretty solid place in a little shopping center that doesn't really have many.

Dos was definitely a staple of my diet during my college years in Davis. I absolutely heart the shrimp burrito which has about 5 shrimps in a white sauce and the shrimp burrito doesn't comes with beans which is my preference anyways (taking one star off cause I always wished there was more shrimp). The shrimp burrito is pretty good by itself but the great salsa bar selection makes any selection on the menu that much better. I still crave Dos, but only get it in much smaller doses. We always swing by when we are in the area.

Not going there again! Was already having a terrible day so I went to dos for a late dinner. Around 8 pm. When I got there they were pretty busy. Took maybe 5 minutes for me to finally get to order. Saw that the owner who I had met before was there. Everyone behind the counter seemed very chaotic. I waited for about 25 minutes before I found out they had lost my ticket ... A few minutes later I received my food and when I get home (3 blocks away) my food was cold! When I start to eat I find a piece of steak in my chicken border bowl! I DONT EAT RED MEAT! So annoyed!

  • Christine H.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about Southwestern cuisine, so this review is of the food itself and not of its authenticity. That being said, their salads are two meals in themselves and pretty freaking delicious. I usually get the Adobe Salad, sans meat, and take half of it home with me. At first glance, the price is rather hefty (almost $12 for a salad...), but it'll last me two meals at least. The service is decent--you order at the counter--but I'm wary of the cleanliness of the water glasses. Mine felt greasy on the outside. Outdoor seating is great in the summer and when you have a four-legged friend tagging along. There's also a salsa bar for your nachos. Am spicy-phobic, so I can't comment on the more pungent varieties.

  • Ben T.

This place is good! I know its not authentic but the food is still tasty. The salsa bar is amazing and the workers are very nice! I recommend any of the seafood burritos if your a fan of fish. The Quesadillas are also very tasty with the special pepper that they put into them. Dos is very generous with their portions. This is one of my favorite places to get a quick bite on the go, or even if I want to sit and dine in. If you're in Davis, you must try Dos at least once, then you'll see what I mean by good mexi-cali food.

  • J F.

I have never had an order come out wrong and have always had great service. The food is super kid friendly and so is the atmosphere. We eat here often and I have no complaints. I love the seafood burrito (as a bowl - no tortilla) and love their salads. My kids like the nachos. Burritos are also a favorite of my husband. The ONLY thing I don't like is the margaritas... TOO sweet and too little alcohol.

Dos Coyotes is a restaurant that seemingly goes through mood swings. On some days, the service is spectacular, with polite and cheerful cashiers and chefs grilling and cooking like they are feeding Nascar drivers during a race. On other days though, the cashiers seem like they would much rather be elsewhere and the chefs seem like they are cooking an entree that needs to be completed a week later. Despite this unpredictability, the food here is satisfying. The paella burrito is my favorite burrito to get. Each bite is filled with something juicy and flavorful. However, if you are looking for something quick and cheap, the lean market burrito will satiate your hunger. I would recommend trying all the salsas to find your own, but my favorite is the radioactively green one that looks like slime from flubber. It goes well with all the burritos I have tried thus far.

I live in south Davis and when I'm too lazy to drive to Guads for my Mexican food fix, I just drive across my apartment to Dos. I normally order a burrito and put hellla salsa on it from the salsa bar. Nothing comes between me and a good salsa bar! They have so many kinds with different spice levels. My favorite is the green creamy one. I can eat it with their chips for days. I mean.. It's not "real" Mexican but it's still good. They also have %10 off deals with Campus Special so download the app or look for the coupons in those booklets!

I think their quality has gone downhill. The last time we ordered for lunch at work (pick up or I would have returned it) I had pieces of chicken in my steak nachos and rice. It doesn't come with rice.

  • Stephanie T.

I'm definitely not a fan of Dos but I don't hate it either. It's definitely too bland for my taste. I've had their quesadilla, burrito, and fajita. All are really lacking flavor. If I had to pick, the salmon burrito is probably the best tasting. There is a lot of salmon chunks in it but it's super wet. After one bite, things start to fall out. For the price, I'd rather go down the street to Guad's for their burritos. Although Dos is probably on the healthier side, lack of flavor can't compete. I will give them points for having a decent selection on salsa. Just too bad they give you a pre-fixed amount of chips.

One of my former coworker and his roommate recommended me to head to Dos Coyotes to tryout their burritos because I love burritos so much. They told me to order the Southwest Burrito with steak so I did. Southwest Burrito- I thought it included rice and beans because when I got home to eat it, I was disappointed. I then notice on the menu that it doesn't come with any. Stupid me. But overall the Southwest Burrito is pretty good. Lots of steak, very juicy, and good portion. Chips and Salsa- Free with order of meal. Chips are pretty good, lightly salted. They have a nice selection of salsa, however, none of them taste that good compared to Chipotle's hot salsa. The only salsa at Dos that I can stand is their corn and bean salsa. Overall, if you are looking for a place to fill your burrito craving, head over here. I totally recommend it.

What sets Dos Coyotes apart from another other Mexican food I've tried is their seasonal specials. I love the Yolo Burrito in the summer and their chicken burrito with red potatoes pressed and grilled in the Spring/Summer. When ordering off their original menu, I've found the nachos to be superb. The salsa bar they have is also amazing! There are many different kinds of salsa for the differing taste buds. I love their hot salsa with pepper flakes in it (my fiance, not so much), but their garden salsa is hands down the best year round. Along with the seasonal entrees, the seasonal salsas are the best. The cranberry salsa they have in winter works with any of the entrees as does their strawberry cilantro-lime in the spring/summer. The soda machine they got shortly after I started going here, made this place even more popular. There were times, on a Friday night, that we would have to wait to steal a table once someone let. This place is never short on business no matter when you come, yet they always are willing to help you find a seat and fast on getting you your order. Hands down one of my favorite places in Davis!!

Everyone is super crazy about Dos in Davis. I will say that I am crazy for their salsa bar! Talk about choices! I had a carnitas quesadilla a few days ago and it was grease city and the caramelized onions sounded good in theory, but weren't complimentary to the already sweet flavors inside the quesadilla. Maybe I just have a bad picker, and I'll definitely give it another go, but all that grease made me lose my appetite.

Beware, my friends, if you call ahead: there are two Dos Coyotes in Davis, and strangely, their locations are quite the doppelgangers of one another. So be sure you're driving to the one you called . . . is all . . . not that I've made that mistake or anything. *cough*

Dos is my favorite restaurant. Period. I know it isn't authentic Mexican food but it's not supposed to be, it's Tex Mex! The portions are insane so share or just save some for the next day. I've been going to Dos since I was 12 (13 years!). After high school I moved away for college etc but every time I come back to Davis to see my friends and family I MUST eat at Dos at least once. The Navajo Nachos are my fav, but the burritos and tacos are good too. Also the Yucatan Chicken Salad. The salsa bar is huge and I love the green salsa; I just wish I could get it down in San Diego! I like their BBQ chicken burrito but it's seasonal so sadly i don't get to eat it nearly as much as I would like. The specials are usually pretty good and I have yet to eat something here that I didn't like. Also, they also do to-go which is wonderful for when i don't feel like cooking myself dinner but want something tasty. Man, I wish I had a Dos closer to me in SD!

OMG BEST freaken place to get burritos/tacos hands down!! I go to this place at least once everytime I visit the area. Food is in GIGANTIC porportions. Love the complimentary chips & salsa, even when you order to go. Service is quick, even when it's busy, and it's very busy during lunch hour. You get in line to order, then find a table and they bring your food out for you. I'm madly in love with the shrimp burrito, salmon burrito, and southwest burrito, in that order. These burritos will feed 2 people, they are huge!

My husband and I loved going to Dos Coyotes in Sacramento and were pleasantly surprised to find one in Davis (closer to where we live now). The food was just as good as we both remembered and the service was great as well. Alex, one of the workers, made our day. He was friendly and had great customer service!

Have again: a single steak taco with double steak is a great, light meal. Delicious.

Everything I've had here has been delicious, and their salsa bar has so many choices. Plus, they always have a unique vegetarian dish on their specials.

Nothing special, only the BEST southwestern food in the world!! Crazy as it may seem, Dos Coyotes is one of the main things I miss about living in Davis. They serve up excellent fresh southwestern style food, and have an awesome salsa bar. The only drawback to this place is the noise level it can reach inside, but other than that, this is hands down my favorite restaurant.

After living in Davis for 3 years, I finally got around to eating at Dos Coyotes. For Americanized Mexican food, I thought the place wasn't bad at all and good sized (little bit too much rice but I'll let it pass). Like the spicy salmon burrito I had (comes with chips for free) and I really, really like the salsa selection (I think Guad is slightly better). Famous for: Salmon or shrimp burrito. Make sure you ask for spicy or not spicy.

I really, really wanted to love this place. The food is pretty good, the portions are enormous, they've got a great (read: pretty expansive) salsa bar, and they just got one of those create-your-own soda machines! Not to mention, all of my friends adore this place. Unfortunately, I've had a couple of bad experiences here that left a sour taste in my mouth, so to speak. The first time I ordered a veggie (I think it must be the bean and cheese) burrito. The menu did not mention any guacamole, but there was a generous dollop of it that I didn't realize was there until I tasted it. Now normally, it's inconceivable that one might complain about extra guacamole, but I personally have an allergy to avocado. I hate being the one who sends plates back, so I tried in vain to scrape it off so that I could enjoy the rest of it, but I still ended up with a stomachache for the rest of the day. Another time, I ordered the cheese enchilada (I specifically asked about guacamole this time), I was brought out an enchilada with meat in it. Being staunchly vegetarian, I had no choice but to ask for a replacement. The waitress/cashier offered enthusiastic apologies and was very nice, but when my new plate was brought out (it was correctly lacking in meat) it was cold. I didn't want to be a nuisance, so I just ate it. One time I had the seasonal quesadilla and it was very good. The dishes that Dos Coyotes offers are all pretty good taste and size for the price. It's just a shame that a couple of bad experiences kind of ruined it for me...

I always enjoy coming to Dos Coyotes. Their burritos are huge and I usually end up splitting half. I've had their paella buritto, which was delicious and unique. I also enjoy their border burrito, which is more standard Tex-Mex fare, but still delicious. What really makes Dos Coyotes stand out is their salsa bar. I live closer to the South Davis location, but I actually prefer going to the North Davis location because its salsa bar is hands down the best in town. It offers about a dozen different salsas, all of them delicious. My favorites are the black-bean and corn salsa, the roasted tomato salsa, and especially the green tomatillo salsa. I'm not usually a big fan of tomatillo, but the one at Dos Coyotes is the best salsa in all of Davis. It's the perfect combination of sweet and a little spicy, making it extremely addictive. I always get an extra order of tortilla chips and load up on the salsa. Half a burrito and chips, with about 10 helpings of salsa, makes for one amazingly cheap and delicious meal.

All the varieties Dos has is really interesting. Get the shrimp burrito! It's terrific. I want to try a lot of the seafood related things on the menu just bc you can't really get it anywhere else. Anything served here looks delicious. There's always 10% off coupons for Dos floating around as well, so it's nice coming here knowing you saved a few extra cents. The salsa bar here is also amaaaazing! The best in Davis. The restaurant inside is also really cute- you should sit down and enjoy your meal here if you get a chance to.

Everything here is so freaking good. Huge salads & delicious burritos (make it "ranchero style"). The salsa bar has 10+ salsas to choose from!

It's SOUTHWESTERN food, not Mexican, not Tex-Mex. Confused? Well, you should be. Consider it a mix of all the cultures that have or inhabit the American Southwest. So yeah, you'll get that sense it's heavily Mexican influenced, but shouldn't be defined as such. Be that as it may, I have always found the food here delicious. I always love to get the seasonal quesadillas. Some of them miss, but others are just damn good. I can't even remember any of their names, but just walk in and look for what's the special. If you're really hungry, the Ranchero Burrito is just amazing. I've never been able to finish it in one sitting, and I'm a pretty big guy with a pretty big appetite. My girlfriend always seems to get the Border Bowl (we frequent the Elk Grove location) and seems to enjoy it. Again, don't come here expecting Mexican. Go to the awesome Taqueria Guadalajara for that. Come here expecting a taste that is uniquely Californian.

I have no idea if this is authentic tex-mex or not. Come to think of it, I don't really care either. I'm neither Texan nor Mexican; authenticity here really doesn't matter. What does matter are generous plates of tasty, cheesy, flavorful food with very, very reasonable prices. Standouts are the nachos and the salads for me, although the burritos are fantastic and fattening in their own right.

Stopped by one a weekday for lunch. The outside tables were packed with happy eaters. The inside was full but there were tables to sit at. Normally I get a quesadilla with some type of meat that is a seasonal special-like chicken and mango. Today I spied on the specials: 2 Fish Tacos with Mahi-Mahi!! I am a huge Mahi-Mahi fan and thought that this place could grill it up right. I asked to sub the cabagge for lettuce and it had oranges, cucumbers, special tangy sauce, lettuce and the Mahi-Mahi hot off the grill. It took a bit to get to me but when I got it I saw why, it was pippin' hot grilled to order...Woo! I ordered the plate-I am not real sure why cuz there was no way I could finish it..prob typical eyes bigger than the tummy issue- the taco was hot and fresh and the Mahi-Mahi was sooo good, the sauce hit it just right with flavor and tang, the oranges and cucumbers were a good addition too. The rice was a nice mix of fluffy short rice mixed with a little carrot, corn and green chile really good! I would of loved it with cheese but that is me. Black beans good with some of the medium chucky salsa over the top. The green chile salsa and chips!!! That green tomatillo salsa is tangy and mouth watering good. Not hot just goooood.

I've eaten here on a variety of occasions and ordered regular menu items as well as specials and I have never been impressed. Some of the specials (particularly one that was intended to be an italian-mexican fusion item) simply did not work. There are many other better Mexican restaurants in Davis -- better to head over to Taqueria Guadalajara. Your money will be better spent and the food will be superior!

I don't know what happened, but I used to love this place dating back to when it first opened. Even after moving out of Davis, I would occasionally make a point of returning to enjoy a great burrito, but not likely again. My most recent visit started off with the woman at the counter being unnecessarily rude. Now obviously people can have bad days and I could put that aside even though it started the experience off poorly. When our food (there were 5 of us) all arrived cold, I began to think it may be my last visit. Perhaps it was a combination of things, but even putting the coldness aside, the magical taste I had fondly remembered was not there. The place has always had its issues to keep it from getting 5 stars, dating back to it's initial small size leading to long waits for a table. When they were able to take over the neighboring space and expand, thus solving the table issue, it led to a space with extremely poor acoustics, leading to a loud and unpleasant dining experience even when the food is good. This can best be avoided by dining outside.

I like eating Dos Coyotes' Mahi Mahi burrito especially with some lime and tomatillo sauce. I love their salsa bar because there is such a variety!

My favorite dishes at Dos Coyotes is the CHICKEN ENCHILADA PLATE (comes with rice, beans, and chips) and the MAHI MAHI BURRITO (comes with a side of chips). The enchilada has cheese and sauce all over the top and I love to dip the chips in it. One enchilada plate fills up both me and my sister, so the portions are big. They have a good selection at the salsa bar which is a bonus.

I'm originally from TX so I've had TexMex and although dos coyotes isn't the true true authentic TexMex, it is still delicious! It does get busy and with limited seating you might have to fight for a table but heir salsa bar is out of this world! I recommend shrimp burrito, Navajo nachos and border burrito. You won't be disappointed

The nicest thing about Dos Coyotes is that it doesn't have to be authentic. Instead of being fake, wanna-be Mexican like so many places that fall short, it doesn't even try. It's Tex-Mex and proud of it. And you know what, I damn well love my wannabe Texan Mexican at Dos Coyotes! I've eaten catered Dos Coyotes several times in the last year or so, but this was my first time visiting one of its locations. I've always been impressed by the massive, delicious burritos and flavorful chips, but this location won me over even more. The interior was nicely decorated and clean, and the outside area with tables was also very pleasant on a nice evening. The food is very reasonably priced, and while you order at the counter the fact that they bring your food to your table is a nice touch. This other thing that made me really happy was, and I am not joking here, the bathrooms. The women's room smelled so good and pleasantly scented - and not a fake, chemical-induced smell either! I actually kinda wanted to stay in the bathroom and hang out. Yes, I know that is a little weird. The South Davis location is actually closer to my apartment than this one (I came to this location because a percentage of the proceeds were being donated), so I'm hoping it's just as good as this one.

I was so pleased with my first trip to Dos Coyotes. I went here on a sunny Wednesday afternoon to get lunch and a drink. I ordered the the Southwest Burrito which one of the tastiest burritos I love guacamole so fresh and tasty! The chips and salsa were decent, but I wish they had unlimited chips, this is a must for taquerias. My margarita was okay, it tasted like a premixed Jose Cuevero Magarita. But I did like that the waiter complimented my choice in beverage (margarita on the rocks with extra salt). I will most likely be visiting this place again!

A couple years back I found a maggot in my mahi mahi burrito. The waiter told me it was from the dried chillies above the tables, but regardless I have never been back to this spot. Either way this place should be shut down for serious health violations..... BUYER BEWARE, MAGGOTS IN THE FOOD

Ahh, I did take-out here so many times that I totally lost count. I always had either steak or chicken enchiladas and it was plenty filling with the rice and black beans. The burritos are only so-so though, so I'd skip those if you have the choice.
