I was looking for a 4 star (or higher) coffee/pastry/breakfast place in Coronado and couldn't find any, but I just walked by this place and what a hidden jem! Well it is not hidden for its location but hidden in Yelp. The quiche was very delicate, and even just a simple toasted Ciabatta with cream cheese and raspberry jam was good. I will try their other pastry in a minute and they look great.

Good food. Cozy atmosphere. Great service. The curry chicken salad is delicious and they specials are always a good choice...but the main reason I come here is for the Creme brûlée.

Key lime Cheesecake was good! My guy had blueberry bread pudding he really liked it! That and a chair latte $23 kinda pricey but I'm assuming its cause its Coronado! Were on vacay so its all good! They were really nice let is in when they were about to close!

This place is popular for its desserts. We came here for lunch. Food is not bad, dessert was good, service (at least our server) was pretty bad. We had the quiche with fruit ($10.50), croque Monsieur ($9.50), and ricotta pistachio tart ($8). The quiche was good. The croque Monsieur was way too salty. The tart was very rich and it would have been better with a little more fruit but still good. I also had a pot of the green tropical tea ($3.75). I thought it was going to be brewed tea but it was just a teapot with a tea bag. Service was not that great because our server was just so slow and inattentive. The food and ambiance warrants 4 stars but I was just so irritated with the server that I had to dock off a star. Cute stop for dessert if you are in the area. Lunch was ok but I don't know how the other food is.

Cute bakery. Good service. Good view. Food was ok, but kind of expensive. The desserts are great and the atmosphere is lovely. I'd go back for desserts but skip the food.

This review is only for the desserts. I found this place quite some time ago when visiting Coronado at night and heading for the park down at the water. We stopped off to pick up something sweet to eat while we viewed San Diego Harbor and Skyline. Now it has become a regular place for me and I don't live anywhere near here. They are located right across the street from Centennial Park and regardless if I come here late at night, early evening or daytime I have always found parking less than a block away and you have to love Coronado metered parking. Twenty-five cents for an hour! You just can't beat that. My most recent visit all I wanted was Creme Brulee, my favorite. I was going to just take it to-go as usual but they recommended that I sit down. I felt bad because I didn't want to dirty up a table just for a single dessert, but I obliged them. I also went ahead and had an iced tea (black). Although I was just having a dessert, they treated me as if I were a party of four having dinner. The iced tea was brought out in a tall glass and very very cold indeed. Then they brought over the creme brulee in a traditional bowl. The top had a beautiful caramelized layer with fresh berries atop. I used my spoon and broke through to find the top caramelized layer very thin. I can't say how many places I've been to, "fine dining" restaurants, that serve creme brulee with an unusually thick layer which is not at all the way creme brulee is supposed to be. There is a nice outdoor patio area you can sit and have the full menu. They are located right on the corner so there's quite a bit of foot traffic and people watching. Or just take your order across the street to the park and enjoy the stunning view of San Diego Harbor and Skyline. We have had many desserts here and they have all been amazing. But my favorite by far is the creme brulee and would have to say it is the best creme brulee I have had from anywhere. Their service is very good. Again, my server gave me first class service even though I was only having a dessert. I don't live anywhere near Coronado but I'll gladly drive out of my way to come here just for the desserts. I can only imagine with the quality put into the desserts that their food is equally good and someday I will try it! But if you want some of the best desserts you will find anywhere in San Diego, you need to come and give them a try.

Was sooooo looking forward to trying this place. Showed a few mins before closing and shut out. I understand for eat in but a 2 Min $20 to go order of ready to throw out pasties was not good...... May try again on next trip. Maybe listen to numerous reviews of how guests are treated! There's more than a few of the poor customer service, but still sounds like your desserts are good. Easy fix!!!

Stopped in on a Sunday morning for a quick pastry run before a golf tournament at the Coronado Golf Course. First impression, nice ambiance with a decent display of pastries. Second impression, less than welcoming servers. Most other coffee shops have very friendly servers, so it was a little off putting. In terms of pastries, one of the servers recommended the scones so we ordered a blueberry lemon scone, a banana walnut scone, and a berry turnover. All 3 were not very good and COMPLETELY forgettable. The blueberry lemon scone was probably the best of the 3 and was just mediocre. The other 2 were bland, and the turnover even tasted a little stale. Pretty unacceptable for a coffee shop with their prices. Definitely would not return.

We came to Tartine on a recent Sunday afternoon. We were trying to miss the huge crowds watching football and found this cute little restaurant! My husband and I both ordered the Greek Salad. We were both impressed by how good this salad was! With plenty of fresh tomato, black olive, cucumber, and mixed greens with a wonderful vinaigrette dressing, this salad was great! What was equally surprising was just how great our son's pizza was. It was positively yummy. Normally we wouldn't find such a good pizza at a restaurant that isn't known for it's pizzas! What this place is known for is their dessert. My son and I stood in front of that case (full the prettiest desserts ever) for a while, just trying to decide! Finally, with the help of a thoughtful employee, we decided on the Chocolate Mousse. It was rich and delicious. After looking at their wonderful menu, we'll have to come back and try a few favorites: Coconut Cream Cake, one of the Cheesecakes, Chocolate Tira Misu Torte, or that White Chocolate Pistachio Bavarian! I think we'll have to try each on our next visit...yum! We had good service here too! We had lots of questions about the lunch menu and desserts, and our waitress was extremely patient. Drinks were refilled quickly, and she checked on us fairly often. It was nice to find a cute restaurant with such pleasant service. We also thought the patio was wonderful here too. When visiting Coronado, Tartine was a nice place for a great lunch and a really wonderful dessert. We will have to go back and try all of those other dessert options sometime really soon!

We came here one morning for some coffee and a small breakfast. We opted to sit outside. It looks like you order at the counter, but they have wait staff who will come to your table. We kept it simple with coffee, toasted ciabatta and a bowl of fruit. The food was good as was the service. Prices were a bit high, but then again, this isn't a franchise. FYI: They don't take Amex. This is a nice little spot to sit outside and grab a quick bite.

Lovely dinner. Great wine list. Don't miss the French salad with poached eggs. And if you are a pastry lover, you will be in heaven. Kind and gracious service.

If you're looking for a nice friendly place where you can enjoy a dessert & coffee or tea, then this is the place for you! They have a good selection of teas & desserts to choose from. Our waitress Melissa recommend their vanilla black tea & it was amazing! She also recommended their lemon bar & of course it was delicious. I've been here a couple of times but always ordered to go. This was the first time I sat outside by the fire to enjoy my tea & dessert. It was my friend's first time here & she loved it. She got the mango cheesecake & it was delicious too! Staff was welcoming & attentive, & our waitress was just awesome! P.S They have a full food menu, a variety of wines & other things to choose from.

Our office decided to try Tartine today for our holiday lunch out. I had the grilled eggplant Panini sandwich, which was decent and filling. The accompanying salad was nice with hearty mixed greens. Others in the group had sandwiches ( turkey was declared "bland"); while the tuna fresh & tasty without being overpowered by mayo). Our servers for lunch were nice and attentive. Two in the group fell to the desert temptations and seemed pleased. The outdoor terrace is pleasant. Next time I'll try a salad. Remember this is touristy, pricey Coronado, though.....sandwhich, ice tea, tip & taxes about $15.00. Desert & coffee will send you over $25. This would be very popular with the ladies if you're out to impress in a casual setting (i.e., after your Ferry boat ride over from Downtown).

Stopped by for mid-afternoon coffee and cake. What we had Cafe au lait - Weak diluted coffee. Iced mexican mocha - Tasted like regular mocha. No hint of spice whatsoever. Again weak coffee. Chocolate mousse - One star for the mousse. It was quite rich, dark and intense. No complaints about the service - One star for the service. I may be tempted to drop by to sample their selection of cakes. Then again, at nearly 10$ a slice, maybe not.

Staff was extremely rude and the food tasted like it came from the grocery store deli a block away. We waited awhile before finally asking someone for our waitress and we got attitude just for asking. Our waitress comes out and barely gave us the time of day. It was like we were being scolded For asking to be helped after waiting nearly twenty minutes and the restaurant wasn't even busy. They also had some weird requirements stated on their menu. For example if you want to split the bill then they charge you more for it. Seriously?! I have never heard of a place doing this before. You also can't order fries at lunch (dinner only), which makes no sense to not serve fries during the lunch hour. This place use to be good a few years ago, but must be under new management who just don't care. Don't waste your time and money here there are plenty of better options in Coronado

I would give this place zero stars if that was an option. Tartine in Coronado is the home of the most rude hostess I've ever encountered in my entire life. We walked in and there were open tables everywhere but she would not allow my wife and I to sit at one because she said they save them for larger parties even though there were multiple tables with one person per table at a four tops everywhere. I then asked if we could make a reservation and she said no, that there wouldn't be any tables available at that time either. I feel as though I was discriminated against and I'm not sure why. I would never recommend this place to anybody and I will never go there again as long as I live.

Two visits in two days, covering breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was good, but the dinner (for four) was exceptional. Some passé, old fashion dishes like beef stroganoff and mac cheese were done in a light, yet exceptionally flavorful manner. Salad with endive and poached egg, along with the the veggie side dish make a very tasty non-meat alternative. The veggie side in particular was as good as you would get a in a Michelin rated restaurant -no frozen peas here, just fresh items cooked to perfection with a light butter sauce. Seafood stew had nice medley of mollusks and a spicy sausage. After week of dining out in Coronado restaurants, this one came on top by head and shoulders.

This was recommended to my mother and I by the lady we rented our condo from. We stopped in one morning on our way to our conference at the convention center. It was the best cup of coffee I have had in a long while, and it made the ferry ride across the bay even more enjoyable! The coffee was so good we returned every morning after that. Then we decided to try the food one night at dinner. It was even better. The crab cakes were fresh and so delicious. My mom had the pear and Gorgonzola sandwich, which was incredible with the amazingly fresh bread. Plus the nice view of the bay. And we were then able to walk across the way after dinner and enjoy a beautiful sunset. Highly recommended!!

Beautiful coffees and satisfactory service. We had cappuccinos and cafe mochas. All were great. The service was alright. The waitress failed at putting a happy face on, which is always a bit of a downer.

Meh. Been here three times and twice is was okay, last time not so much. They have great food and coffee but service is spotty. Good coffee, amazing cheese board (really amazing...had to beg for bread twice tho) Totally understandable when servers are busy but the attitude is what justifies two stars. You live on an island--be happy. Jeeze.

My family amd I stopped here after exploring Coronado for a bit. What a great find. They were so accomodating with me, my wife, a rambunctious 5 a year old, and a 1 year old that needed a high chair. The coffee was fantastic. I ordered a hazelnut latte amd my wife had the iced mocha. My was frothey, silky, and so satisfying. My wife's was very indulgent. Hints of fine chocolate was strewn throughout her drink. We had the creme brulee and raspberry silk cake. Both were phenomenal. I will definitely hit this place uo next time I'm here.

I been here 3 times. Twice with a group of friends (which often have group dates here) and once with my family. I like lunch better. Options aren't great but it's a light sort of meal. Salads are not bad. I like they have the coke bottle that is made in Mexico. Now to the point of this review. Today with my group date with my mommy friends the waiter spilled 3 hot cups of coffee on my friend sitting next to me. Ruined her new shirt , purse, and phone. Along with another friends phone. Spilled some on my shirt as well. My friends got the burn though. We convinced her to stay and the staff had trouble locating first aide kit. Second they said they would comp the meal and then came back with a $90 bill. Then they gave us a long face for asking for a discount, which was about $20 discount. My friend is still aching from the burn from this morning. Never going back there but the three times I was there, their service is stuck up. After the incident they came back to take the order and bring the order and then they never came back but only to bring the bill. Wow. What a terrible experience. They only enjoyable thing was the company of my friends. Update: owner called my friend and was told she was going to bring her Aleve for her pain! That's it??? I find this very upsetting and crazy. Her shirt, that was a gift was ruined, her phone ruined, and her purse ruined!

Came here twice during the week because I enjoyed the food. First time was for dessert and coffee. We ordered the Pavlov, chocolate mousse, and a decaf cafe au lait. Everything was perfect! My husband came back the next day for lunch. He ordered the turkey pesto panini and he loved it. We came back the day after that for lunch. I ordered the prosciutto panini. It was good. Came with a yummy side salad. The dressing was delish! Then we split the ricotta and pistachio tart. It was a great texture, not too sweet, just plain yummy! I highly recommend trying everything on their menu!

I've been going to Tartine for breakfast and for their delicious desserts for some years now, but last Friday I went in to buy a chocolate cake and a lemon bar one for a dinner party . Since I walked over there from the Shores and it was extremely hot, I asked them if Incould pick them up later when I went in my car and the answer was NO. I just couldn't believe it when the cashier told me that it had to be in less than two hours because they "needed the refrigerator space" I asked her if they could maybe save them in a refrigerator in the back and she again replied that there was no extra space for them. So after that I did not buy them, I still can't believe her lack of flexibility towards a paying client. I bet the owner of the cafe does not know how her staff makes does types of decisions. I hope she can do something about it, it really is a good place.

I loved this place! We randomly found it when we were driving around Coronado and I'm so glad we did! We stopped in during lunch and were lucky to find seating on their outdoor patio. I ordered the prosciutto panino and it was amazing! It also came with a fresh side salad for around $10. They also had a huge selection of desserts but I didn't get a chance to try them, next time though!

Bestie and I stopped by after walking around Coronado on such a beautiful day. We decided to just have coffee & dessert and now I completely regret not having lunch there. Neighboring tables had some great looking food! We ordered iced cafe lattes, coconut cheesecake, and a ricotta hazelnut torte. All were absolutely AMAZING!!! Wish I caught our server's name...he was pretty great too!! Only complaint was that our dessert detour cost the same amount ($24) as our breakfast at another establishment. Definitely worth it though!!!

Restaurant is in a nice location, where one can see downtown SD. One is also close to the Coronado ferry & outdoor shopping mall. Restaurant ambience is unpretentious welcoming to many. Varied meals have been consistently mediocre. Their desserts & service are average as well.

We tried the Chocolate pudding, it was delicious! The Creme Brûlée was ok. They had high quality tea. Most of all warm atmosphere and great service. $30 for two desserts, tea, milk, and cappuccino. It was a little over priced but was satisfied with my sweets craving.

BAD service! Second time coming here. This time we got the New York cheesecake which was wonderful, light and creamy. Coffee just didn't taste good. They still don't have more of the traditional type of pastries/desserts. This time when we came, the service was horrible. The older lady that seated us when we first got there seemed very put off and bothered by having to seat us and even made a statement that most of the tables where reserved. Was she hoping we would just turn around and leave? I wish we would've. The waitress wasn't very good. She seemed to forget us and we felt that she wasn't really interested in serving us. We only ordered dessert and coffee. I did enjoy there cheesecake and that will be the only reason I step foot in there again and it will be to take it to go. We had to get up and go to the register to get our check and pay for it since nobody was bothering to come to our table even though there where several people behind the counter that were just having personal conversations.

A cute cafe and the staff is friendly, but I was really disappointed in their high prices. I know it's Coronado, but $8 for a creme brule that's about 4" in diameter is ridiculous.. Especially since it was mediocre. I coulg go to another bakery and get a bigger one for less. Would not come back.

Great food, great service. Fabulous location! Luncheon menu has a great eggplant panini. You will enjoy this great warm welcoming environment. Never been to Europe (but it feels like what Europe should be, not rushed hahaha) if you are looking for super quick rushed service this is not it. They will NEVER rush you out the door EVER.

My sister recommended this place when I visited her in San Diego. She said the cheesecake was "to die for". We got the Citrus Cheesecake and the Tiramisu Torte. The cheesecake was surprisingly light and creamy, a nice change from the overly dense New York-style cheesecake. The tiramisu torte was delicious! Both the cream and the chocolate cake had the bare minimum amount of sugar (it was almost not sweet at all), but the toned-down sweetness balanced out with their richness and the sweet chocolate sauce. The quality and the flavor of the pastries are incredible!

Having not been to Tartine in a while, I headed here for lunch last week. It's a cute European style cafe in Coronado across from the ferry landing. They have a variety of paninis, sandwiches, salads, and pastries. I ordered the grilled eggplant panini to go. I was disappointed with this panini since it was pretty flavorless with soggy eggplant, too few slices of red peppers, and goat cheese that tasted like cream cheese. The side salad was also disappointing since it looked like they opened a bag of mixed greens and put it in my to go container without even adding anything...nuts, cheese, something! Service was friendly but not very quick. While I waited for my panini I ended up also getting a brownie and a bone shaped dog biscuit for my pup. The brownie was dry, because it wasn't fresh or they over-baked them. My pup seemed to gobble up her biscuit without any complaints. Now I remember why I haven't been here in a while! This place has okay food, better than good pastries (although not this visit), service is hit or miss, and they charge Coronado prices (AKA over-priced). I do like that they have puppy friendly patio seating and doggy treats, but I will wait to cross the bridge next time I get a panini craving.

You know, emptying out and counting your tip jar during the lunch hour rush is kind of rude. I ordered something to go. The food was very good. But the service was very haphazard. I could expand, but why bother - they didn't care about how I was experiencing their place.

I have been here a few times but last week went with the wife and she had the chocolate bread pudding and I had the pecan caramel cheesecake thingie (I'm not sure its official name). Absolutely delicious - can't even explain - its to the point now where we call ahead and if no chocolate bread pudding it is off to somewhere else. Can't comment about the panninis and other stuff but this is definitely in the dessert rotation. They are not gigantic but big enough (your waistline will thank you for it not being claimjumper size portions). Remember folks everything in moderation.

I would have given 2 stars but the food is pretty awesome. We came in on a Saturday morning and it was pretty packed. We got a little frustrated when it took 10 minutes for the server to ask us what we wanted to drink. We then asked the bus boy to call over our server but no one came over. Then asked waitress to call over our server and she gave us a little attitude, said she would but again no one came over. We then asked the bus boy to let his manager know that our table still didn't have a server. Finally our waitress came over, didn't apologize for the wait, but we were ready to order drinks and food so we chose to make a big deal. Drinks came out in a timely manner, and so did the food... Except for my dish, I ordered the ham and cheese Quiche with a side of fruit. 10 minutes later I still hadn't received my quiche, we had complained twice bc we saw quiches being served to other tables. We never got a "sorry" and then when my food arrived it came with salad... I sent it back and it took several more minutes for them to remove the salad and add fruits. Throughout the entire situation out waitress seemed like she could care less and really wasn't sympathetic at all. We noticed it's a theme at this place... The waitresses especially all have bad attitudes and are brats. Definitely not wasting my morning at this place again. It's a shame though because the food and pastries are delicious, that's what saves Tartine.

Tartine, a European Bistro has fantastic, deep, rich coffee! The shortbread melts in your mouth and is crispy yet chewy at the same time. The place is tiny but charming and a little off the hearten path for Coronado. Service is a bit slow. I ordered a bacon, cheese, and tomato panini. So far it's taken 20 minutes. I've made do with the yummy shortbread which I am pretty sure should have been eaten after the panini. Panini arrived. Fair. You can't go wrong with Epi toast jelly and cream cheese like my companion had. Fruit salad borin. Bathrooms beyond dirty. Not going back.

I've stopped by here several times for a mocha or other coffee drink when I need an afternoon pick me up. They are always very nice and make my drink quick. I've never had a problem with my order. I rarely do a sit down meal but the few times I have the service has always been fine and the food has been fresh and tasted good! It's dog friendly on the patio too which is always nice!

Great food! Beautiful pastries and view of the harbor. Light fresh food. A little pricey but worth the expense. My only complaint is very slow service. I stood at the counter to order take out an each waiter/ waitress passed me about 3 times before helping me. 4-5 minutes to even be acknowledged.

Went for breakfast. Oatmeal, diet coke. Oatmeal was decent. Decided to go for lunch also. Place was packed and a few waiters seemed frazzled. Order soup, I was told it was suppose to be chicken with risotto. Didn't see chicken or risotto in it. Bread was decent. Order a piece of chocolate raspberry silk cake, was unimpressed and shocked it was $8.00 a piece. 20 bucks for blah soup, and boring cake.

My girlfriend and I stopped in for dessert last month while we were vacationing in SD. I had the lemon blueberry cobbler, and my girlfriend decided to have the soup of the day. Both were amazing, including the fresh French bread and sinful butter! We will certainly be back for lunch next time we're in town.

I had a really great experience at Tartine on my husband and I's recent trip to Coronado. We drove by it one afternoon and I thought to myself "Oh! That place looks cute, what is it?!" So I right away (of course) yelped it out. Thanks to you trusty reviewers, we decided to give it a try for dinner! I was really excited about dessert before I even ate dinner. I saw the HUGE pastry case and got very excited. But! I waited, patiently. I ordered a glass of wine that was on special for $3! And then we ordered dinner. I got the gnocchi. You can never go wrong with gnocchi. Perfect little pillows of potato goodness. Then we did finally order dessert! A really rich chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. Quite the end to a very lovely dinner.

I've been coming here since we first arrived on Coronado. I now live here and still go here as often as possible! The pastry's are amazing, especially the "earthquake," and "mexican wedding" cookies, along with the Anzac cookie. The desserts are a bit overpriced (especially the mini cakes), but you're paying for quality. this place also has amazing breakfast food. My favorite is the epi bread with the homemade jam or the homemade granola and yogurt. the margarita pizza is also tasty and so are all the paninos, soups, and salads. The only thing I wish they had were french crepes.. But still, the other dishes more than make up for it. As for dinner, I have yet to eat any of those meals. However, they sound really tasty. their coffees and espressos are also very good...although they should have a french press coffee on the menu!

  • Naz G.

This place has some incredible desserts, I will give them that. The food is tasty too. But they are shrewd and extremely overpriced. Just because you are on snotty Coronado, doesn't mean you get to charge four times more for what they got just a few miles in downtown. Also, there is a female manager who is a big bitch working over there. She must be a manager since she's so pompous and bossy. I was having coffee and pastries with my uncle and brought him a homemade salad in a tuperware dish. He was eating some of the salad when Ms. Bitch comes over and rudely snorts, "You can't eat that here," right after I paid $37 for three damn pastries and a coffee. That's a dinner tab for two at a reasonably priced restaurant. The food was good, but the service is bad and prices are high. For that reason, I will not be returning there again. Lower your prices and stop being such douche bags.

I've eaten here several times. Always excellent service/excellent food. My husband is European and so he likes to come here for some decent food from time-to-time....lol. We just returned having dinner and it was delectable, delish....the best salmon I've ever had....(and I've eaten a lot of salmon). Too bad I do not live closer, but then again, that's probably a good thing. That's how much I love their food!

Tartine is one of my favorite places in Coronado & ideal for breakfast or lunch. They serve up some of the finest baked goods in the San Diego area here & you will feel the quality with every bite. They also have a relatively large area for outside seating- which is perfect for enjoying fresh air. Thumbs up for Tartine!

I'll only rate the restaurant on the food/service and not factor in the other part of the story I'll tell later. We stopped there around 9:15 a.m. for a quick bite while out for an exercise walk around Coronado. Service was friendly but slow overall. It took an inordinate amount of time to get menus, receive food, get coffee refills (and since when do you need to flag down a waiter to get a coffee refill during breakfast?), the check, etc. Had it been busy I would understand but the place wasn't even half full. As for the food my cheesecake was good but my wife's quiche was unimpressive. It came out lukewarm and lacking flavor (since when does quiche need salt). All in all not a bad place (friendly but slow service, average food, a bit higher than average price) but there is better in Coronado. As a FYI the place does not take American Express. Had they posted what cards they do accept at the door (like most businesses) or elsewhere I would understand but there was no mention so we ordered assuming they took AMEX but knowing I could walk home and get money or a Visa card if they didn't. When I tried to pay the bill and was told they don't take AMEX I said fine, I'll go home and return in 20 minutes with money. As we were walking out the door a waiter came and said the manager needed me to leave the credit card. I said no, I'm not leaving my credit card with strangers, especially a card they had just refused to accept. He then said that one of us would have to stay there. I said that was unacceptable as well and that we would not be inconvenienced in that manner. He tried to kindly argue (I will say he was never rude or mean in any way) but I cut him off and said we would return in 20 minutes. Alas, 20 minutes later I returned with cash and paid the bill with no issues. Now I understand why they don't want people walking out saying they will return later to pay and I get it. But, if you aren't going to take a major credit card then you should state that somewhere up front to avoid these situations. All in all I don't know what is more surprising: that they think an AMEX Platinum card holder would stiff them on a $25 tab or that a business in Coronado of all places wouldn't accept AMEX (I mean this isn't Fresno or Barstow). Maybe it's my fault for assuming a place that didn't have the Visa/MC/Discover signs, charged $10 for a average glass of wine, advertised the fact they have a "Chef De Cuisine, and is located on Coronado would take AMEX?

Cute euro style cafe with nice outdoor patio, i come here for lunch on and off. The salads and the sandwiches are pretty good, my fav is greens with pear and Gorgonzola cheese (a bit pricy..around $10). For breakfast they don't have much to offer except quiche which i have to admit is fluffy and delicious. The counter has a large glass stand with a few varieties of desserts.. cookies, petite cheesecakes. On Wednesdays they got a "happy hour" : half-priced selected wines by the glass. I would give this place 4 stars but the service is always been mediocre.

Just had a lovely lunch at Tartine! My first experience here & it did not disappoint. Had the brie & ham on a toasty baguette that was delightfully flakey and not too crunchy (yay!). Coffee was wonderful. All in all, DELISH! Bonus points for being so dog friendly!!!!

Mixed feelings about this cafe, but I am fan of this cafe's atmosphere to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. I do like the location since it's walking distance from my apartment. The menu and bake goods don't hit the mark for me, the wife and I tried breakfast a few times and left disappointed each visit. I had the keish and my wife had fruit bowl and their waffles really nothing spectacular that jumped right out beside the cost. I enjoy that they are dog friendly and have dog bowls of water in the patio area. Costumer service needs room for improvement, on our last visit our young waitress was consistently neglectful about refills and had a rude cloud hanging over head that seem to gloom over other costumers, at the end she left us hanging with the bill and credit card for over 20 minutes on a less then packed morning.

Even though the pastries are tasty, customer service always sucks here! I'm all about customer service! We, the customers are the ones that break or make a place so why not be nice to us and show some appreciation!

  • Jude E.

Yawn, what a pity, a great location has luke warm white wine and staff that need to focus on customers and their needs, not whether they went surfing or not. Friendly and hospitable are words that do not come to mind. Perhaps suggest some staff who in fact smile!

Food is excellent. Pricey but very good. Service is another story. We've gone some times and treated well other times not so good. Kinda of a "don't care" attitude. Maybe that's a part of the French ambiance. Lol. I just find it annoying so we don't go here often. We can bring our dog so it is nice for that. If you just get dessert and coffee your good. If you get a meal you get bad service because I don't think they are trained well. Quality food requires quality service... Or you are missing the boat.

This place was a nice atmosphere compared to places on Orange ave. great indoor and outdoor dining with prompt service. Breakfast all day, i'll be back for that, good coffee and deserts. Healthy menu options entree, salads, etc.

I tried this place last week one late evening after being at a bar for a few hours with some friends. One reason why I liked the place was because they had lots of places to sit inside and out. On top of that was the friendly staff that explained the menu selection to me. With prompt service, it was a very nice place to go and enjoy some dessert and coffee. I had the chocolate cake which went great with a cup of joe. Overall, I thought it was a nice place for dessert and to chat.

Seriously, the best pastries I've ever had. The vanilla bean tart is to die for and the espresso chocolate truffle cake is a close runner up. Also the wait staff is very friendly and helpful. Sergio is super sweet and always remembers to bring my water without ice. It's the little things that make this place great.

My husband and I normally come here about 3 times a year and we have never really had a problem; however, we went in this weekend for breakfast and had incredibly rude service. Our waitress was a woman with curly hair and glasses and she came off extremely rude. She was so rude we left before I even finished my breakfast. I don't appreciate a snotty attitude with my breakfast. I don't think we will come back again or recommend this place to any of our friends.

I've had lunch a few times and dinner once with a group of friends. I really like this place. Delicious food, and some really great desserts. The Pot du Crème (butterscotch) was so good. I'd go more often if not for the distance.

Came here for my friend's birthday, walked in and it REAKED of bleach. Wasn't greeted even after standing at the dessert display for a couple minutes. When we finally did order, her attitude was the worst! Then she couldn't hear my friend and I after us repeating ourselves multiple times so she came out from behind the counter and kinda got in our face. Yikes! She didn't even ask if it was to eat there or to-go, she just immediately packed it to go. I also ordered a coffee and she didn't offer any cream until AFTER I looked around to see that there's no bar with cream and sugar. The customer service totally threw off the experience and we clearly got the vibe that we were not welcome. Sucks that we won't be visiting again because this place has an awesome view of San Diego's skyline.

Snobby staff! Everyone working there has an arrogant, better than you attitude. There is no urgency, seeing as the bratty staff are too busy making themselves drinks. The food is good, next time it will be to go. Work on your customer service and standards Tartine.

I've only dined here once, tonight, on a Friday night with the restaurant at about 1/3rd capacity with my wife and young son. Their menu really didn't have anything super interesting that seemed very attractive to us, so my wife ended up ordering their Margarita Pizza and I ordered their Beef Stroganoff. My wife's pizza was served and about 20ish minutes later our waitress appeared to realize my meal hadn't be served yet. After looking at their computer system, she approached me to notify me that she somehow neglected to submit my request to the kitchen and could place that order for me now if desired (apologizing of course). I declined as my wife had 1/2 of her pizza left so I decided to just eat that. We also ordered some chocolate cake and a chocolate chip cookie for our son. The cookie was OK, the cake was somewhat dry. Our waitress brought our desert to our table. 15ish minutes after finishing the cake and cookie our waitress finally asked us if we'd like anything else, to which I requested the check, which took another several minutes. We probably dined for 80 minutes or so with a 5 year old, which isn't always easy. Our bill didn't include any deductions for the error and there was no offer of a discount for a future visit. I'll probably dine at Tartine at least one or two more times before judging it on this sole experience. Our negative experience was mostly due to the waitress, who could have just had an off night.

The best bakery in town, not as sweet as normal American style bakery. I tried almost every dessert here, none of them is bad. I love the skinny frite and steak the most on menu. I love the Turkey panino for breakfast sandwich. I don't love their croque monsieur, because they use quite thin breads. Came here over 5times within a month, I guess I'm a fan now.

My boyfriend and I stopped here in search of a lighter dinner. The salads were great except a few leaves that had gone bad. I had a pear and walnut salad with delicious cheese (possibly gargonzola I can't remember) and my boyfriend had the chicken curry salad which was served cold. Amazing selection for dessert! I had a pistachio tarte of some sort that was light and delicious.

Desserts looked great, and that's where it awe stopped. Really not worth wasting the calories in hindsight. Sandwiches were dry, and mediocre, and very pricy! $67 later for 3 people who were still hungry after lunch from pretty meager portions...Meh, sadly Which Wich wins over cost and quality. Too trendy for its own good,

My wife and I stopped by here for lunch again while out on our Sunday bike ride.We sat out front under the covered front courtyard because it catches the ocean breezes from across the street......and has a lovely ocean view as well.My wife felt like a cappuccino while I needed something cold like an iced latte. We decided to share a ham & brie baguette and a slice of chocolate mousse for dessert.Everything tasted extremely fresh and made with quality ingredients. Our server Moriah was very pleasant and made us feel most welcome. We checked out their dinner menu and hope to make it here one evening to enjoy more fine food.

Came here after watching the boat parade in the bay. Cute little spot to grab some coffee and a dessert to share. Never had an actual meal here but I've heard that some of the breakfast and dinner items are pretty good. They have indoor and outdoor seating, the patio area is a nice place to sit during the day. This isn't an 'out-of-this-world' bakery but a nice place to stop in while visiting Coronado!

A decor reminiscent of cafe's in Vienna not Paris is what came to this person's mind! With a nicely sized patio and genial locals in the morning make this a pretty nice place to start the day if staying on this side of the island (yes yes...technically Coronado is not an island!). Breakfast on a chilly morning with a a decent coffee and a decadent breakfast panini is enough to get you in the mood for work. The sandwiches in the afternoon thought not technically tartine's like I imagined them, were well constructed and tasty. Truthfully I think the ham and brie was definitely as good as sandwiches in France or the other France... Quebec City!. Evenings bring a short but decent menu. A recent trip had us trying the mussels that were perfectly steamed in a garlicky wine sauce, with bits of spinach and butternut squash adding a perfect herby-sweet earthy contrast to the mussels. The sauce was very drinkable and made for perfect dunking material for the charred bits of bread and fries that accompanied this dish. The airline chicken ...was we..ll chicken ..good..but still chicken...but it was served on bed of creamy risotto that was stick to your ribs good. I felt it was a bit overcooked, but the companions on this eating tour did not mind that at all. Topping off this meal was a crazy good lemon tart! Picture smooth tangy custard thankfully more on the lemony side that sweet on a perfectly biscuity crust! This was a perfect ending to the meal : substantial...yet somehow light!

Do yourself a flavor favor and order the Chocolate Bread Pudding!! The dessert servings here are massive, I suggest sharing.... Even the cookies are Dino-sized. The cappuccino here is a frothy cup of deliciousness that you must pair with whatever sweets you're picking up!!

3.5 stars Tartine is on the other side of Coronado from Coronado Beach, but it's a cute eatery, full of decent food items. Nothing orgasmic and noteworthy, but it's a good place to get lunch and catch up with a friend.

  • Carmen V.

Extremely slow and bad service, but I give 4 stars because the pastries are excellent as well as the coffee and paninis. Pastries are not cheap, but are elegant and very well made, and the location of this restaurant is very touristy, besides is a charming place, so I guess all that adds up. I like the terrace but somewhat feel the interior is more comfy and like taking a peek at all those good looking sweets! Is the place I keep coming back again and again every time I am in Coronado, but I think the service needs to be faster and a little more friendly, it does not cost anything to be nice to customers.

I've been going here for well over 20 years. It was our go-to place after hours when we wanted to get away, across the bay and wind down. More of a sit-down, coffee/dessert cafe with a French twist. A quaint alternative to Extraordinary Desserts without the hoity-toity crowds and lines. The dessert offerings are not as "extraordinary" but they're filling, well-made and a little higher priced than what you get at Starbucks. They serve it to you on fine china or bag it up for you to-go. Service is professional, personable, efficient. They'll help put tables together if you arrive with a larger group, very courteous. Indoor sound decibels increase when groups of people's caffeine levels increase. The outdoor seats are recommended on a sunny day when the weather warms up in our fine city. Stop by for a sip, sit down and breathe in the clean, bay air.

Don't expect great customer service. Sit down and wait 20 mins before a server will come take your order and by the time they do, the dessert you want is no longer available. The girl said she would be right over, yet she goes fulfills a to-go order, gets someone their coffee, fulfills some more to-go orders. To-go orders can wait, what kind of customer service is that? The food is not good enough to overlook the horrible disorganization and customer service. Will not come back

Pros: -Amazing sandwiches and salads at reasonable prices -Outdoor seating. Good for passing cyclists who want to keep an eye on their bikes -Great customer service. The waitress was attentive and friendly -Relaxing atmosphere. Not too noisy, not a lot of traffic passing by outside -Walking distance from the Coronado ferry boat Cons: -Expected a caffe macchiato but got a latte macchiato

Tartine is a perfect day-vacation spot in Coronado. I have been here numerous times and am never disappointed. They offer a wonderful selection of foods from: breakfast items (love the oatmeal and cream!) to lunch items (fantastic Croque Monsieur) and I have yet to try their dinners--but hope to soon! And the piece de resistance is their desserts! Homemade scones, cheesecakes, creme brûlée just to name a few!

Stopped by after our visit to the dog beach. Peaceful patio and delicious food. We enjoy our paninos and dessert while our pooch enjoyed the free water and surrounding views. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a pet friendly place with some solid eats.

A bit pricey, but a great place to swing by for a snack when you are in Coronado Island! During my recent visit to the Coronado Island, we came here to get coffee and a dessert. The cappuccino was just okay. The brownie and the ice-cream was good. Nothing completely out of the way from the other bakeries that I have been to, it's decent.

If their definition of "Fresh" means a week or more out of the water, then I must use a different dictionary. They tried to hide the stench of the fish in a thick green herb sauce, and the color of the salmon was closer to a gray than pink. overly oily potatoes, overpriced chardonnay. Vegetables were at least fresh. bread was good. what a let down. despite my polite complaint, they didn't even offer to help. i paid and left and Will NEVER go back. Been a client for more than 15 years.

I was told by another friend how good everything on the menu is. And I was not disappointed. I went in after stopping at the local Farmer's Market to see about selection of salads and sandwiches. I decided on the Spinach Salad and the chef told me he would add some strawberries. It was delicious. I got the order to go and while I waited took a look at all the desserts. Between the cookies, brownies, bread and pies I was highly impressed and had to resist the urge to get one that day. I did however get my two pups some doggy treats they sell that are homemade. Will be back again and again!

The usual coffee choices but nothing special for those who like a choice of coffee in presses outer or over. Food looked okay but really if you want a coffee and something sweet stop by 1134. More coffee choices and I felt like even though it's still off a main street it's more quiet.

We got a couple cups of coffee from their Cafe Moto labeled carafes and the employee said it was Cafe Moto. This coffee tasted more like folgers ground coffee ( I drink it black) The coffee was warm so pass on this place for a cup. The pastries were good though.

Great brew coffee and lattes (they even offer almond milk) but the caramel macchiato was too sweet to comfortably finish without cutting it with some more coffee. Nice selection of pastries and cakes but not too much for little kids on the menu. Cute location. Nice outdoor seating. Dog friendly!

  • Skye B.

The food here is good, but thats all it is, good. The latte I ordered was actually a cappuccino, but the tea and desserts made up for it. What didn't help was the poorly lit interior (many missing lightbulbs) and the inability of my group to get separate checks. Three stars.

A friend and I decided to make a trip from La Jolla to Coronado for a brunch excursion and even though the trip was far we thought why the hell not? It's Tartine..the one thats always in reviews and foodnetwork, so why not?? We drove pretty far to find out that it wasn't the same, but still decided to give this place a try. They have a nice patio and so we decided to sit outside. We ordered their house coffee and from their specials, pate and quiche, both of which came with a side of greens with a nice vinaigrette dressing and bread. None of which screamed amazing, only partially OK. After reading raving reviews about their chocolate bread pudding, we wanted to give that a go too. The bread pudding was nice and chocolatey, nothing too over powering, but still didn't have that wow factor.

We recently moved to Coronado, and Tartine has become a weekly outing for dinner and dessert. I have a six year old and two year old, and they have been great with my energetic kids. The service has always been top-notch, and the food consistently good. We wish they had a wider selection of wines, but the variety of dessert more than makes up for it. I would recommend Tartine for lunch, dinner, or dessert.

Before I became a local I stumbled upon Tartine and instantly fell in love. Maybe it was the friendliness of the wait staff or that they asked if my dog, Buddy (who also loves this place) could have a house-made dog bone shaped peanut butter cookie, the great food, good coffee, sitting on the patio in beautiful Coronado...it's a great way to take a few moments to sit back eat, drink eat and enjoy the beauty all around!

this place is an absolute dream. it's located right by the water and has a fantastic view only a walk across the street away. the people are really friendly, really outgoing, and super willing to help. the atmosphere is really nice and relaxing. they have dog water bowls in the front so im assuming it's puppy friendly. the tea and coffee is a little expensive but it's still amazing nonetheless. the apple streusel coffee cake was good too. definitely coming back and bringing my puppy next time too!

I see there are mixed reviews out there, but I loved Tartine! Both of my parents worked in Coronado when I was little, so coming back to the area to hang out was sentimental for me. I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this little cafe while walking from the ferry landing. Its very cute inside, and we had very friendly service. The desserts all looked awesome, and I chose the mango cheesecake. Delicioso! My friend ordered the chocolate mousse and it looked yummy too! I ordered a cup of coffee and I was in "kickin it" bliss. Nothing better than hanging out with friends, eating dessert and sipping coffee. Simple yet satisfying.. They serve dinner too which I didn't try but the menu looked very good. I may just have to try the food next time! But I'll definitely be back for dessert..

I've been here few times. I love this restaurant. One time they had the curried butternut squash soup, it was amazing. The dessert are the best part. you have to try the chocolate mouse. They also have dinner at night. They have dinner specials every night, but you have to try the flat iron steak. The service is professional, courteous and really helpful.

I love this restaurant or cafe. They have wide selection of desserts. The server is also very nice. He will pour you an extra hot water if you tea pot is empty. The coffee is refillable too. I tried the mango cheesecake, blueberry pudding and scones. They are amazing! It's not too sweet but perfect companion for tea or coffee. I will definitely comeback next time.

Love love love this place!!! Cute outdoor seating. Food is excellent. Must try the warm Brie wheel with fruit and baguettes!!! Had a Mexican mocha latte. It has a fruity nutty taste to it. Very good!!! I would of given this place a five but service was slow. We went on a Sunday morning. I think they should hire more people to work there.

Yes! Another Tartine to check off my list. Checked out Tartine last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. We sat out in the patio because the inside was a bit stuffy. Even with the wind, we enjoyed our brunch. We ordered the following items: 1. Charcuterie Plate - with salami, pate, brie, prosciutto, olives, mixed green salad and a baguette. Mmmmm so good and more than enough for two people 2. Turkey and artichoke panini - it was good but a bit dry, it needed something else, but I just don't know what. My friend said it needed hot sauce...I think some aioli would have been good. 3. House coffee - super yum 4. Oatmeal/cranberry cookie - you need to get a dozen of these! So good! I will for sure visit Coronado for another brunch at Tartine.

Excellent vanilla bean tart (with a lemony filling!). The rum ice-cream had great flavor but could have been sweeter, richer and smoother. We went their to try the cakes advertised, but didn't realize those are only sold whole and have to be pre-ordered.

I had really high hopes for this place as the pastries look fantastic. The menu is very cute and reminded me of a French Bistro. I had the turkey panini which was VERY bland and the bread was tasteless. My husband had the croque monsieur which was okay. The chicken salad was decent. The salted caramel cheesecake that we split was below average (which is what I was really looking forward to eating!) However, we spent $50 for this meal and it just was not worth it. On an other night, we decided to attempt dessert again and we split chocolate bread pudding and it was nothing special. We have all decided that we would NOT rush back.

Stopped by here on a day trip to Coronado. The wait staff was attentive and constantly refilling my water (I like feeling wined and dined). My food was definitely freshly prepared. The baguette was freshly baked and the tomato was ripe and sweet. Dessert and coffee were great too. Yes, it's expensive, but I thought the portions were large for European Cafe standards.

Great desserts and our server was awesome! Had champagne and mango cheesecake...delicious! Had to lower my review because of the service the second time I went there. It was busy for lunch, asked for my check and then watched them cash out other people that came in after us and ignore us. Had to ask for my check 4 times and finally got it, but made me late getting back to work.

I arrived here with my mom on a busy Sunday morning. Kinda confusing with the seating situation- it's seat yourself so don't wait around. The waitress was very kind and the food was very good. The house made jam and coffee drinks were my favorite. I also really liked the house salad and all the yummy pastries. I'll be back for sure.

I met a friend here for a business meeting in the late afternoon. We had a choice of inside or outside...the outside tables were completely covered by a solid awning, which as a person who burns very easily I appreciate greatly. Kind of a modern Parisian feel to the restaurant. Lovely restaurant, friendly professional staff, delicious food. I had the curried chicken salad, and they served it as a sandwich in a baguette without any fuss. It was moist, not overly flavored with curry, and the raisens and almonds provided a nice sweet crunch. It's a little on the pricy side for a lunch ($15 each with only water to drink) but it's in Coronado so what else would you expect? Only downside? Parking in Coronado can be a bit of a hassle. But on the flip side, the metered parking is cheaper than in San Diego. I would definetely come back here when I am in the area. Walk just outside the restaurant to one of the lovliest views of the San Diego skyline you will see, in the little pocket garden next to the condos, across the street.

Pavlova and ANZAC cookies are sure to bring to smile to anyone from down under. I've been here a few times when visiting parents and usually stop here for the desserts. The Sandwiches and Panini are okay, perhaps a bit disappointing all things considered. - Turkey Panino The turkey is actual carved turkey, not deli sliced. The Artichoke and Gruyere where there but left the Panino pretty bland. It may have been sacrilegious, but I had to put some BBQ sauce inside to give it some personality. The side mixed salad was fresh, though it was just that, a pile of Mixed salad. Besides the desserts, you want to come here for the patio dining. It's so close to the bayfront it makes an ideal place to relax and be seen by the tourists. - Get a dessert. - Service is kinda weird. It's seat yourself (at least on weekdays) and a server will claim you at some point. - Portions are on the small side with the exception of the mixed salad. - Great place to sit for a coffee or light meal. 3.5 stars

Hands down most unique and delicious food we've eaten in our tour De San Diego this week. My husband had the chicken of the day with pomegranate seeds a top a butternut risotto and i had the salmon with quinoa salad. It was phenomenal. The service was informative and kind. We were not rushed at all! Had the pear cheesecake and the chocolate bread pudding for dessert - they were both off the hook! Oh and get a baguette for sure!

I've been here 3 times during the week I was in Coronado. I'm not a local and wasn't treated like a stranger. I've been treated well by the wait staff, the food has been great, & it's perfect for a morning coffee and pastry.

Food was good, service was very slow - I actually had to stand up to get the waitress to come out to our table. Their chicken soup was very greasy. However, the ham and cheese is very very good.

The BEST desserts and they love pups! Animals welcome on the patio and they even have their own homemade puppy treats! True treasure to the neighborhood.

This is a very cute place for lunch or breakfast. I recommend sitting out front if its a nice day. The service here is good, they're not overly peppy like you find at some restaurants, which I appreciated. I got the eggplant sandwich which was so good and my boyfriend's turkey panini was apparently delicious - he was raving about it all day. I feel like the prices are totally reasonable. Definitely a cute stop for a bite if you're in the area!

Was in the area on Saturday evening after having a full day in the San Diego area. Viewing the incredible Coronado skyline with the Harvest moon, this place was set in a beautiful little area with some terrific eateries and fabulous oceanfront condos right by the water. Came in for a coffee and dessert. Coffee was delicious and the banana cheesecake was yummy. Service was great from the counter servers and place was packed. Food coming from kitchen looked really delicious. Would love to come back during the day and enjoy one of their breakfasts.

Purely reviewing drinks & drinks...but before I get to the yum, service. The staff was absolutely sweet 5 stars. In the beginning we did only order beverages but they were attentive enough to continually bring way over & check in on us. Now the fun items ;) +Mexican Mocha w soy: no complaints here, delish! +Peanut Butter Cookie: probable one of the best peanut butter cookies i've had. Chunks Of peanut butter, each bite is just perfection. +Chocolate brownie: yumm....I'm a peanut butter junkie, so that stole my heart but the chocolate bite brownie was yumm.

Tartine is a neighborhood gem you can only find on Coronado Island, San Diego. It is unfortunate that I do not live on the island because I would be here for lunch everyday. The food is delicious, the desserts are heavenly and the service is great. Their store front overlooks the bay and Centennial Park.

Cute little French place with tons of desserts!!! We came here for lunch and I had the croquet monsieur, and hubby had the ham & cheese Panini. Both were giant in portion size and the cheese in my croquet monsieur had so much strong cheese flavor! I just about died and went to heaven. It also came with a side salad that was very fresh tasting. Service was very prompt and quick. Prices were reasonable and you could sit inside or outside. We passed on dessert since we were pretty full from our lunches. So we of course had to come back the next day for some breakfast and I had steel cut oatmeal with fruit that was delicious!! Bill got coffee and a berry dessert that was average. I had pumpkin bread that looked so good but it a bit dry. I like my bread a bit more moist. Maybe an off day but we were not wowed by the desserts here. Service was good again and prices were average. So great for lunch but we were mixed on the dessertswe had!

Bring your dogs here and sit on the patio and let them mingle! Cute little place. Good assortment of coffee and tea drinks available. Wonderful pastries and desserts. The rissoto was actually quite tasty! I will def come here again and bring my pups!

I seriously love Tartine. I tag along with my Coronado friend (aka, drag her back to her island) for lunch sometimes JUST to go to Tartine. It is just so quaint and friendly and nice, and serves really great lunch. It is like a MUCH better vie de france, except that you don't have to deal with mall-people. Just lovely Coronado people. I got the Tuna Nicoise Sandwich - tremendous and not mayo-y at all. And the bread was very good indeed. I was supposed to eat just half and then I just went on living. Also, Curry Chicken Salad - also very great. I know people like bread and sandos, but if you are going to go bread-less for a second, make it a minute, and get this again and again. Well played, Tartine.

Very small menu and limited choices. Not many actual French choices. I could not get eggs with my breakfast because "they dont do that". McDonald's had a better "French" menu then the actual restaurant.

I had the pleasure of sipping something new than the ordinary: spiced chai latte. An aromatic flavor of Indian spices and herbs-topped off steam milk froth. It had a sweet and warm undertone of pumpkin pie that reminded me of Thanksgiving dinner with family. Tartine does not only serve great desserts and specialty cafe drinks, but creates an open environment for one to enjoy company with friends. I highly recommend their Spiced Chai latte.

The dessert was SO good!! Stopped in on my way out of Coronado. They have a really nice set up: lots of outdoor seating, but also a large indoor seating space. Everything was very clean and upscale. I got my dessert to go so was able to go in and pick out what I wanted from the shelf. They had a pretty good variety of options: lots of cheesecakes, cookies, cakes, and breads. I got the flourless chocolate walnut cake. Was given a huge slice of the cake, topped with a heavy heaping of frosting. I was skeptical at first because upon first bite the cake seemed too hard and dry. But after a few minutes the cake seemed to warm up and was so luscious, moist, chocolatey, and had a perfect amount of walnuts. It tasted kind of like a more airy form of a brownie. The frosting was even better: not too sweet, very rich, soft, and just completely delectable. They provided the dessert in a nice box and even included a little dollop of frosting. I definitely want to return to try the drinks and maybe one of their food items.

We had lunch here today, a busy Saturday, and we were supposed to rent our electric bikes in 30 minutes. The waiter made sure our food came out quickly, and it was delicious! I had the nicoise tuna sandwich on a baguette; excellent but more than I could eat. Hubby had the turkey panino and he loved it; thick sliced turkey, not pressed, and gruyere cheese melted over it; both with greens with a superb vinaigrette. Price was very reasonable we thought. Nice outdoor seating, and dog friendly. I would go here again, maybe for dinner!

In a nutshell: GREAT FOOD, VERY POOR SERVICE! We ventured out here because we heard really great things about Tartine. We were a little puzzled when we walked in because on the counter was a huge sign that read "for take out only." So we stood there... and stood there before we decided to seat ourselves. We were handed menus without any introduction or welcome. After what seemed like forever, our orders were taken from an employee who looked frazzled and tired. Our food was delivered and that was the last we saw of our server. I got up to order my own dessert from the counter and I got up to retrieve my bill. Our drinks were never refilled and we were never asked if we were doing okay. With that being said, I think their delicious food suppressed my irritation. For lunch, I ordered a ham and brie baguette. The baguette was lightly crisp and went nicely with the layers of ham and slices of brie. It also came with a side of green salad and a scoop of miniature pickles. For dessert, i decided on a sour cream and coffee cake. It was crumbly and not too sweet. My husband had the butterscotch pot de creme which was so creamy and rich with flavor. Only street parking available. We went on a weekday lunch and found parking right away. Best metered parking prices I've seen in San Diego: 12 minutes for a nickel, 24 minutes for a dime and an hour for a quarter!

3.5 stars In short, pricey dessert café located next to a beautiful beach. We ordered an Anzac cookie, champagne truffle cake, and Grand Marnier pot de creme to go. Unfortunately the pot de creme had to be scooped into a to go box and the presentation wasn't as pretty as if it had been in the container but that's okay. The thing that stood out to me was very powerful flavors. The Anzac cookie had a strong spice and granola scent and was in perfect contrast with the other alcohol-heavy desserts that we got. The truffle cake and was very heavy and rich in flavor, but nevertheless good. The pot de creme was not as heavy but I loved the taste of the Grand Marnier that came with it.

One of my favorite spots in Coronado, this charming cafe/wine bar /eatery is a guilty pleasure. The pastries here are to die for and the food is always delicious. If you come here take a camera because most of the delicatessen is surreal and photo opp ready. Tartine's has a fabulous patio to dine out on, it's pet friendly and lively. The inside has an artistic feel and has a classic modern cafe feel to it and has a large glass case featuring some of the most beautiful deserts you will ever lay eyes on. My son enjoys their bacon scones and Mexican wedding cookies I love their soy vanilla lattes and their signature pear and gargonzola salad with walnuts... which might I add, many have tried to imitate but never come close. My last visit here I here I ordered a bacon scone and a soy vanilla latte, my server Tasi was sweet and brought out my order in literally 3mins and asked if I needed the scone warmed up. Perfect service and fine food. This is a Coronado treasure and is cherished by the whole town, it's conveniently located near the bay so it's a perfect place to get coffee to go walk to the bay and take in the view!

I was being a tourist, riding the ferry from downtown San Diego, to the Tourist Trap of scenic Coronado and I was looking for something very different to eat...the question was...what? Talking to one of the locals in Coronado, they recommended I try TARTINE, which was about a block away from the Ferry Landing. As I walked in, I was a little intimidated by the place because my first impression was this was a dessert place and I'm really not in the mood for dessert. To my luck...it wasn't just a dessert place as the place appeared to be and the waiter even guaranteed to me that they did serve food and gave me a menu. I found that something different when I ordered the GORGANZOLA TARTINE Sandwich. This sandwich was light but filling and was loaded with Pears, Carmelized Walnuts, Spinach, Gorganzola Cheese, Mache' all on a Baguette Bread. My order came with a side salad that was just as delicious as the sandwich and it also gave me an easy recipe to follow at home when I want a good sandwich. In closing...I wanted something different...I got something different. The TARTINE is a nice little quaint place to relax and enjoy Coronado. Sure I didn't have any of the desserts that this place is known for, but I got something even better in return....a good lunch.

Review is based only on their dessert! I went here with two friends, and one of them happens to be a regular of this place. I loved the cute and modern setting of the place, but I was a bit disappointed with what we had. So three of us ordered three different desserts. Mine was coconut cheesecake, which I think was pretty good, but the other two was not as great! One of them was hard, like it was not fresh or made the day before or something, and the other was way too sweet for my taste. Tips: get across the street, and go to this cute spot where you can see the skylines of SD downtown by the bay! The scenery is breathtaking! Not sure if I will be back, but we'll see!

The chocolate mousse cake here is enough to send you to the Moon!!! For years, that's all I've gotten. Combined a Coronado Ferry trip to have lunch somewhere and get cake at Tartine. Decided to have lunch here...OMG!!! Friend got Caprese Panini and I got Gorgonzola/pear/walnut sandwich. She suggested splitting, as they came cut in half. She is SO SMART!!! Mine was unreal good and hers was excellent. Everything on the menu is appealing and all the counter eye candy is tempting. YUM...

When I used to live in SD, this was my "to go" spot in Coronado. Now, every time I come back to visit, I have to come visit this little spot. It's right across the street from the most beautiful view of downtown, right by the fairy landing. I love to come here to have a cup of coffee during the day to read a book or on a date in the evening for some dessert. I also came here for breakfast once and wasn't disappointed. As far as prices go, it's a little more on the pricey side but not too unreasonable. It's well worth it though. You can tell their food is really good quality. Even their jam is absolutely delicious and I'm not particularly a huge jam fan. Their food is great but if your on a budget, just go for coffee and a pastry and you'll be golden. Also, they're totally dog friendly and even sell dog treats at the counter:) Some tips: - like most places in SD, it's street parking. So it's meter parking. But if you go on Sunday or in the evenings, it's free! Also there's a parking lot across the street for the pier you can park at. -last time I checked, you seat yourself. So don't be surprised when no one greets you at first. Just go sit down and someone will bring you some menus.

It was ok. We went there b/c we found them listed online as a place that was "dog friendly" - so we could have our dog with us on the patio - nothing special, but they did have peanut butter cookies for the dog (although ours turned his nose up at it - not sure why). But it took FOREVER for someone to come and wait on us to the point that we weren't sure if we were maybe supposed to go to the counter. but when i went inside, the counter had a sign that said that it was "to go" only, so i went back outside and waited (and waited and waited).... Apparently, our waitress was very busy having a personal conversation with another table. The food was "ok".... We just had sandwiches - which were fine. We didn't have the desserts and it looks like they really specialize in those. it was blustery that day and the heat lamps were on, but there is no relief from that wind on their patio. I don't know.... 2 stars is "Meh. I've experienced better" according to yelp and that's just kind of what I feel... If we were walking by, we were hungry and it was the only thing for a distance, yeah - i'd try it again but i will certainly never be making a special trip to dine there. Incidentally, there were no other dogs there...

Place was awesome but my evening started off bad when i was really craving chicken the whole night and i choose this place over KFC down the st because well KFC is so unhealthy. The first thing the waitress let me know was they were out of chicken. It wasn't really busy so I don't know how they ran out of chicken. Go buy more at the grocery store people. The food i ended up getting was really great but i would have preferred the nice succulent flavors of poultry on my lips. The staff is really cool and there is this really hot blonde that works there, and if your reading this I want your number.

I went here Wednesday night to meet an old high school friend. We just went for desserts and coffee. I have to say both desserts were extrordinary! I guess for $6 each, it better be. We ordered the Key Lime cheesecake and a chocolate mousse pie and both were creamy, rich and very decadent. They were the size of a tall cupcake and we didn't even finish them. The place is cute and reminded me of a little French cafe. The floors needed to be swept but again, that was what reminded me of the French cafe. haha The service wasn't bad...every table was full when we got there but after 5 minutes we were seated and immediately brought menus. The waiter...who may have also been the manager or owner kept checking with us.

We all know that a restaurant experience is a combination of location, service, food, and ambiance. Tartine is in a great location just a block from the Coronado ferry landing. Additionally, it is the nicest coffee shop on the East side of the island. The food is tasty and well-plated. The ambiance is nice. That only leaves the service, which is why I gave it 2 stars. My Meetup walking group arrived at 9am on a Saturday morning. The place was crowded and table service was very slow, so we placed our orders at the counter. When we took a seat at one of their tables, the server told us we would have to leave because we did not place our order at the table. We were appalled to be treated like this! I was embarrassed because I had selected the place. With one misplaced comment and continued expressions of disgust at our daring to eat their food in their place, they managed to dissuade 12 customers from ever returning.

  • Charley N.

Disappointing. Last time I came here we had a great table outside. Came back and two of the best tables had "reserved" signs. One for "Norma" who was apparently coming Much later. So, we couldn't get one of those tables because those people must be better than the customers who are actually present and presumably just as good as the "Normas" of the world. But who knows? Well, I still like the place but if you don't like the feeling that you are less than some person, who btw STILL HASN'T ARRIVED FOR THEIR RESERVATION then avoid Tartine. I mean come on RESERVE the two best tables on a Saturday, (July 4th weekend), and hold them for 15-60 minutes?? Come on Owners it's this kind of managing that will do you in. Congratulations, you managed to annoy about 10 other parties who were obviously also wondering why they got treated less than by you. Well, we finished eating and one of the reserved tables is still empty. The other "special" party showed up 15 minutes into our breakfast-a chubby boomer in bike shorts and three cruella devilles. Nice?! Yelp user and defender of cities JC sent me this kind message, (below), recently, nice huh? Rant elsewhere please "I wish people like you would stay off Coronado and keep your political agenda off of Yelp. Your ratings and words show ignorance and negativity. You belong in LA. I expect you will bite back with more hater stuff!.... typical!"

  • Liz M.

Okay, the only reason I am giving Tartine 4 stars has nothing to do with their service because the people that work there are not very nice. The desserts however are a winner for me. So far I have tried their banana loaf bread, strawberry vanilla scone and banana nutty torte, all of which are super delicious! I've never eaten at this place, their lunch/dinner menu sounds a little too fancy shmancy for me and the menu just isn't my cup of tea, but boy can they bake desserts! If you want to drop by just to taste their desserts I would definitely recommend you try them out, just don't expect the employees to be friendly because it almost never happens.

My husband and I went on the recommendtion of a friend--and it was a disappointment. We ordered wine, 2 beers, a salad to share, the fisherman's stew and I had the baked pompano which came heavily coated with olive oil and some chopped vegetables.(the lowest price I saw for a glass of wine was $8.50) The stew was very good, loaded with shellfish and well seasoned--the pompano was a little aromatic with a strong fish scent and could have been fresher. When it came time for desert we had to go to the counter display case and review the offerings, slices of things already cut and sitting there for who knows how long.. I ordered the Ricotta pecan tart which was very dry and the base was reminiscent of sawdust. My husband ordered what they called chocolate bread pudding but which was not custard based but rather a dense moist chocolate cake cooked in a rich chocolate sauce. Our bill came to $115.00 with 15% tip and I noticed that they had charged $2.50 because I said we'd share a salad. The manager came over and went into great explanation about why they had to do that--you'd get more salad, etc. etc.If we had wanted more salad we would have ordered it. It just irked me that on a high priced dinner they'd get us for separating a salad that we would have been perfectly happy having in one dish. Most good restaurants do that as a courtesy. The best thing was the "bread pudding" which was large enough and rich enough to share--but don't use that word "share" or they'll tack a surcharge on it! May be time for new management--or who knows, maybe that was the owner! Seems to have a good local following, but It's an uncomfortable noisy place with concrete floor, hard chairs and equally hard wood benches on each end--the outside furniture on the street-front patio looked like it might be more comfortable and quieter . Probably best for coffee and a pastry--if you find something fresh in that case..

Before leaving Coronado we wanted to grab a quick brunch to sustain us for the 9 hours drive home (yeah, 9 hours...on Interstate 5..please, hold back your jealousy). Tartine looked super cute and cozy, so we stopped in. Greeted and seated immediately, and had the nicest waitress - she kind of reminded me of the girl that played Amelie in the French movie. Anyway, I digress - not a huge brunch menu, but very much like what you would find in a European bistro (with the addition of oatmeal). Hubby had quiche, and I had oatmeal with fruit on the side - everything was very fresh and tasty, and served quickly. All in all, great place to satisfy your brunch needs, and will come here again when in Coronado!

I came here with a group of friends after a nice day of sailing around the coronado bay and my friend suggested that we come to this little place and grab some coffee. I Was totally down with coming here and getting my grub on. I love just gettitng a nice hot little coffee drink, but when I saw their desserts that they had here, I knew that I had to have one of them and ordered one for my friends and I to share. When I went to pay, i couldn't believe how much I had spent. some of the things here can be a bit on the pricey side, but overall, the coffee drink and dessert were just all right.

My lovely Coronado native friend took me here pre-beach date... She said sandwiches, I said hopefully they have a veggie option. They did :) We walk inside the cute bistro and are immediately handed a menu, I skim the small selection and decide on the gorgonzola, pear, & walnut on a baguette... same as my friend. We wait around (about 15 minutes) and are soon handed our to-go bag. As soon as we settle in on our beach blankets we dig into our food. The bread was delicious... The cheese perfectly melted.... It was a unique sandwich, reminds me of salads I've had previously, never thought of putting those ingredients into making a sandwich so I'm glad Tartine did. The sandwich came with a side of mixed greens and a yummy vinaigrette. A perfect and filling lunch, just could have done without the dash of sand but there was a bit of a breeze at the beach.

Listen: THIS is where you want to go for breakfast on Coronado. The coffee is delicious, the variety of pastries & other baked sweets is glorious, and the staff are very helpful. But to be specific: We breakfasted there on the Saturday of our long weekend and really enjoyed the quiche, which was the creamiest, best-textured, tastiest quiche i've probably ever had. And the fresh fruit that came with it was indeed FRESH, varied, and delicious. A cut above most so-called "fresh fruit". And the icing on the cake was the SERVICE. Our waiter on Monday morning, the same gentleman who had waited on us two days earlier (Alberto L.), remembered us instantly and welcomed us back. THEN he remembered what we had ordered two days before, and KNEW that we wanted to reverse our orders, correctly, and even intimated what Dan was going to order (a specific French bread), which he got to-go, and he was so attentive the whole time. This is now our go-to breakfast spot when we visit Coronado and we look forward to trying their lunch and dinner, if their breakfast and pastry items are any indication of how good those will be! Thank you Alberto L, and all the rest of the staff and crew at Tartine on Coronado!!!

This place is my favorite stop on any trip down to San Diego! My mother and I are always impressed with the dishes, especially the gnocchi! Really, if you haven't been before do not order anything but the gnocchi, yeah, it's that good. Not that everything else isn't great too, I've been impressed with everything I've ordered. The atmosphere is wonderful too, nice and airy but still intimate, quite welcoming. Also, they allow dogs, which is awesome! Great outside patio for the summer months. The one downside can be the service. I've had great servers and I've had marginal one's, kind of luck of the draw from what I can tell. Meals don't come out instantly so be prepared to relax and enjoy your company. That said, they aren't especially slow, think typical nice restaurant times. All in all I'd say that this is a must stop location in San Diego!

"Casual European Bistro wonderful food and excellent desserts!" I have been to Tartine for a few occassions which have mostly until yesterday included just dessert and tea, yesterday we ventured outside of our comfort box to venture in for dinner. While we weren't teribly hungry we ordered the soup (curry butternut squash), endive salad, and a croque monsieur. The food was excellent, pricey but that is to expected in Coronado and the dessert = always amazing. I was a bit dissapointed, I saw the croque monsieur sandwich but didn't see a croque madame, I asked the waiter if they could make it into a croque madame but alas, no. The food is very homey and delectable, just missing the wow factor for an excellent but still very good. Still a favorite dining spot in Coronado. Our favorite desserts include the pot de creme, chocolate bread pudding, and the chocolate champagne truffle cake. It's good for small groups 3-4 people.

Charming oh so Charming! Sunday morning with loves should be spent in Coronado sipping teas and eating yummy quiches at Tartine. This place is a gem of a gem. It was busy, but not busy waiting in line busy. Easy crowd with locals, fashionable gals brunching, retired folk, and the token tourists - this place is lovely and so is their expansive menu. The quiches were perfectly cooked with the eggs just a tad bit soft, served with a little mixed green salad. The brie and ham sandwich was served slight warm with the brie melting and the sharp mustard delicately in the crux of the baguette for a little kick. Fabulous tea menu with yummyness overall. The bakery case has some pretty things to offer to hit that sweet tooth if you have it. Try the shortcake. It's a classic. I would recommend this place over and over again if you want to flee downtown and want a casual and slow meal. It's simply divine.

What a cool little french style bistro in Coronado! I first found out about this place from my friend who knows the chef. The last time I was here was for lunch with some friends. We sat outside on the patio, enjoying the low key charm of the place. We all grabbed different sandwiches (all priced around $12-13) I grabbed the prosciutto sandwich on a french baguette. Was wonderful, the thinly sliced prosciutto and fresh baked bread were dancing flavors on my tongue. We also all shared a cheese platter, the selections were varied and generous. By the end, we had all had our fill to eat. The desserts were tempting though. They are freshly made everyday by their pastry chef and boy did they look good sitting in the dessert case. Service was quick and friendly!

Hands-down, my favorite place to go in Coronado! It's got a great location by the water and on summer days the patio is the best! It's got a quaint, unassuming charm you cannot resist. The food is fresh and delicious and the prices are great (average $13 for lunch item). They also have the most tempting dessert bar ever, with lots of teas and coffees. And, I love the bread they bake! I can't think of anything I'd change!

Before you read further, I just want to start out by saying that you can not go wrong with Tartine. It is close to the Coronado Ferry Landing and it is a unique place that is great to visit. The location is wonderful, the service is usually very good and the food and drinks are good. The menu is limited and based more around the wine, coffee and tea selections. They have some good pastries. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A FILLING/HEARTY MEAL: DO NOT GO TO TARTINE It is pretty small portions for the price. That and the food selection make it 4/5 stars.

I might have to double my gym time to make room in my diet for endless pastries from Tartine! My husband and I originally started coming here for the sandwiches and salads, quickly realized how amazing their deserts were, and have graduated to realizing that their pasta dishes are amazing as well! I have literally never had a bad meal here! I've even come in once in the morning and gotten the oatmeal, which was, of course, phenomenal. I don't know how this place doesn't have 5 stars! The prices are completely reasonable, the service is fast and friendly, I have no complaints. They've actually gone as far as remembering who I am! This place is always busy, but the staff recognizes me, and knows I"m a cobbler fanatic, haha. The staff as ALWAYS smiled while greeting me. They have been quick with their service, and when they can't be because they're busy, they always apologize for it. I could live off Tartine cuisine, and might seriously devote my grocery money to Tartine money during my husband's next deployment!

Delightful desserts and a rockin' lemon snap cookie. We ordered the chocolate bread pudding to take on the road and were very very happy we did. They gave us little containers of white and dark chocolate to pour over the bread pudding. Yum. The caramel cheesecake was rich and made my eyes squint with pleasure each time I took a bite. The cheesecakes were delicately sprinkled with edible petals from flowers. Lovely to look at as well as to eat. I'll be back here to try the salads. It sounds like I missed out not being able to try some of the savories.

Ok, I see that folks are pretty stingy with the stars at Tartines, on the peninsula sometimes confused for an island: Coronado. Angie T.'s review summarizes the negatives of the place. Read that, put your ego in check, and go to Tartine's to enjoy your time and the food. The staff may not be automatrons like from a well oiled chain restaurant, but they all care, are polite, and treat me and my friends with respect. I believe that trying your best and maintaining your respect for others allows you to still get 5 stars. If you need to put wait staff down to feel better about yourself, just go somewhere else. I've eaten there at least 50 times. I lived in the city of Coronado on the type of land mass defined as a peninsula for a year. I went there with my beloved doggy and people I like, as it was a nice walk from the home. And more than 2 years later, I'm still going back fairly often. I have always loved the robust flavors and how they don't cheap out with their sauce or cheeses. As it should be when proper chefs prepare meals, the items on your plate are there for a reason. Try them together, try them separately, and enjoy the mixture of flavors and textures in your mouth. And their desserts are amazing. Take the above about trying all ingredients and definitely apply to the desserts. Every time with every dessert I've had, the flavor changes dramatically! I like to sample a little of each part of the desserts and then begin combining. A-May-Zing! They are dog friendly, but you might want to call ahead to reserve your place on the patio. I always go for dinner and sometimes on weekend nights, there is a bit of a wait. And I have always left there with a happy tummy and in a great mood. If you enjoy food with flavor, this place is a must visit.

We spent one week on Coronado and did the tour of Coronado and San Diego area and had a great time. We went to a lot of restaurants, some good some not so good. On our last day in Coronado 08/22/13 , we decided to go to Tartine for lunch and then make the drive back home. Our server was a pretty Blondie lady wearing all black with brown boots. We ordered salads and soup and were also planning on having some of the deserts that they make there. From the beginning the server seemed totally uninterested in us and gave both me and my wife that unwelcome feeling. I must admit that the salads and the soup were good. The only problem was that after she brought us our food she never came back to see if we needed anything else or even to refill our drinks. We never got any refills. She walked by our table multiple times to go outside and help others but never once looked our way to even motion that she would be back. After waiting for quite a long time my wife decided that she just wanted to leave and skip the deserts, which was too bad because our daughters were really looking forward to the deserts. I told my wife to go ahead and go to the car because our girls were becoming restless from the long wait and I would stay back and pay. Once the server saw us all getting up she immediately came to us and asked us if we would like any desert. I told her "at this point we just want to leave". She said she would meet me at the cash register where I paid in disgust of the POOR service. I left her a $2 tip hoping that she would get the message that her service was terrible, but somehow I doubt it sunk in. Poor service does not make up for good food. I will never come to this place again.

AMAZING : and yes it is for LOCALS!!!!! Decent prices for coronado, fresh ingredients, it is not a tourist trap. French food, wine was $5.00 a glass, dessert was great!!!!!! GORGONZOLA SANDWHICH AMAZING. Considering that it is for locals it is a fairly upscale place which people have to take into consideration when going there, i.e. dress like you belong or you just don't. Dont get me wrong I am not a snob but I appreciate places of this caliber and can dress down or up. Business casual works fine for this place. Did not have any problems getting service and they even comped me my glass of rose, fabulous!!!!!

We did not leave a tip on the debit card receipt. The waiter "Al" (Aldebaran M.) wrote in his own tip after we left the cafe. We found out later when checking bank transactions. This is not cool. Period. That being said, and legal ramifications being pursued, the service of a restaurant or cafe is the result of a team effort. It was fairly busy since we were on Independence Day. We were in the parade, but we had some time before to stop in a nice place for breakfast. We had been to Tartine before, and things weren't particularly special, but we thought we would give it another chance. Unfortunately, the plate looked bad, and the waiter should not have even taken it out of the kitchen. But it came out anyway. The spinach quiche was tepid, the grapes, all rolling around by themselves (some moldy), and watery coffee drinks spoke to an epidemic, not a slip. We are sorry, but we will not go back.

Absolutely loved this cute, european style cafe :) I came here late afternoon for my between lunch and dinner meal and ended up having a grilled eggplant panini, a spinach quiche and a cheesecake (No I didn't miss my dinner either!). They were all homemade, fresh and delish! Americans may find it a bit bland, but I like the real taste of fresh ingredients, not some crazy chipotle, or whatever the sauce they use to spice up their sandwiches at other places. They have a big menu for such a small place, and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have lots and lots of dessert to choose from, and they all look really good :) 4 stars because the service was a bit slow, and the place was not even crowded, but I'd definitely come back next time I visit coronado!

This place is great!! It's more on the expensive side when you're talking about cafes but everything tasted so fresh and delicious that it was worth it. I went here with my boyfriend and had a very nice chillaxing time. I basically came to SD for vacation just to go around trying out dessert places. And this place did not disappoint for it's sweet taste at all. I had the white chocolate cheesecake which was very light fluffy and creamy. If you're the type thy likes thick and strong taste in your cheesecake. Then this place isn't for you. But I like my cheesecake with a very creamy feeling and a light aftertaste of sweetness and cheese. It was almost like eating cheese whip cream. Yummmmm. If you want regular food and not just dessert, then try their sandwiches. It comes with a fresh salad on the side which is nice and refreshing. Also, their butternut squash soup is to die for. So warm and delicious that it just slides down your throat. Their latte was also delicious though I wish it had more foam. But it had a great flavor. Service wise: probably 4 stars. Nice waiters but barely any help. And we walked to the counter to order and pay ourselves. But they were all friendly when we were at the counter so I forgive them. :) Overall: a must stop-by when you are about to hit the beaches of Coronado!!

I've tried this place so many times and service is still awful. Great location, great pastries, wonderful desserts, and the dinner is pretty good too. It's a shame they just can't get it together- I just tried to get someone's attention because although you are to seat yourself, nobody seems to be in a hurry to greet you or even bring a menu. A young lady was delivering food to the table next to me so as she was walking away I asked for some help. "Actually there is a server for this section and she will be right with you." and walked away... Really? Because Ive been here for 15 minutes and everyone here has clearly been on a different planet. All she had to do was say good morning and listen to a simple request for black coffee or perhaps even a menu! It's so annoying that plain old customer service is so irrelevant. Im sure we have all had this similar experience somewhere, I was just hoping that finally this place would have figured it out. I guess they have a captured audience with the locals and tourist to keep them going for so long.

We have been doing more walking around the Bay side of Coronado because its not as bad finding parking and the breeze is truly nice and we can bring Apricot for a nice walk. He loves rolling in the grass and smelling all the smells. Tartine is a place we often passed by and always debated whether to sit on the patio (since our companion Aprico is with us). On this warm but breezy Sunday, we decided to go to Coronado but eat/drink a little bit before the walk. A bit because we were not really hungry and Brian just wanted a drink. So their afternoon menu consists of solid items, sandwiches, cheese plate, charcuterie plate, salads and of course some desserts. We ordered the wheel of brie with nuts and bread. When the order came, we realized that this was enough for a group of four as a starter. There were plenty of fruit and a decent size of brie. The brie was warm and wonderful and the fruits, nuts and other items complimented the cheese. I wish I had a bigger appetite. The restaurant also serves home made ice cream, selections of dessert cakes and of course coffee, espresso etc. I would like to try them out for dinner sometime. The area where the restaurant is located is relatively quiet away from the tourists walking around the ferry landing aread where there are also stores and restaurants. Tartine seems to be more accustomed to their regulars.

Oh Hi! OMFG!!!!! I turned invisible for the first 10 minutes after I walked into this place! I used to eat here all the time when I worked on NAS NI for two years. I find this place charming, the desserts are blissful to orgasmic and I LOVE the curry chicken salad!!! I didn't know that they had magic powers that caused me to become "the invisible woman"..!!! OMG! It was SOOOO amazing, servers walked by me and did not look in my direction! It musta looked weird seeing a menu fly through the air and land on a table there! I was SOOOO excited until finally, I guess the spell wore off when a server walked over and said that she would be right with me!! I said "OMG! you can see me?!" (minus one star - I did get good service once they realized that the invisible spell wore off!)

Yum. Took my mom to Tartine this afternoon. It's a very cute cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. They offer a very tempting looking selection of desserts, unfortunately I didn't try as I was stuffed and heading to the beach. For lunch, I had the Croque Monsieur which is, what I call, a French grilled cheese -- Brie, ham, and Dijon mustard on toasted melty goodness. It was good. The side salad that accompanied it was fresh and had a really light, nice vinaigrette. I also got the Pot of Tea which is an adorable single pot presentation and the African White Tea was so great. Service was pretty good. It's a little confusing when you first walk in, but seating is seat yourself and it can take sometime before anyone notices you. All in all, would definitely return -- next time definitely with dessert.

I really like Tartine's food and tea, but they really need to work on their service. It was too slow. At times, my boyfriend and I felt like we were neglected. If you want service, you have to wave to the waiter or waitress to get their attention.

After visiting my squadron at Coronado today, I decided to call a friend who works at NASNI to have lunch with me at Tartine. Timing was perfect for lunch place was pretty slow. Since I've been here several times, I know what I wanted. Gorgonzola Tartine - Gorgonzola cheese, caramelized walnuts and sliced pears served in a warm baguette with mixed greens and for my friend the Proscuitto Panini -proscuitto, parmesan and arugula grilled in a panini roll with mixed greens plus their soup of the day; Lentil soup. We both got iced teas. We enjoyed our meal, the servers were nice and polite.

You probably see from my profile that I generally don't give 1 star reviews often. In fact I think I have only given one in the past. Deservingly so I will now be adding a second 1 star review to my profile thanks to this establishment. We were driving around Coronado in a recent trip to SD and walked into this place for a cup of coffee and since the pastries looked good we thought about sharing one. We sat down and my fellow comrade was quick to bring two ice waters and menus. He then wandered off to make sure the tables were cleaned up and everyone was hydrated. He was the only person I actually saw working and being friendly. The waitress who appeared to be responsible for the dining area seemed to be only focused on this one table outside in the patio. She walked out made sure they were alright, had a glance at us and walked back into the counter. A man off the street who seemed to know that one table stood speaking to the folks at the table and the waitress went straight too him and asked him what he wanted. Within a minute she was back served him his ice coffee, glanced at our table and a couple next to us who had a young child and nope nothing, not a "I'll be right with you" or "Have you been served" or "Welcome". Nothing. At this point we were like WTH? Are they serious? Maybe Coronado is immune from the financial situation. She came back out one more time and well that was it. Adios muchucha. I'm of the opinion now looking back at it that this place is clearly geared towards the locals and anyone they don't know or recognize they have no care about serving. The Russian couple next to us with their kid was being totally shunned too. My wife and the lady from that table sort of acknowledged what was going on with a wink. They stayed, hopefully they got served. We'll good luck to you folks, your better of placing a sign that says "locals only" save us all the trouble.

We sat inside Tartine for dinner one night but there is also very nice outdoor seating. I love this place! We ordered the Greek Salad and Curried Chicken Salad. The salads and delicious baguettes were wonderful. I had a glass of Shiraz from the drink special menu ($3.75 - where can you ever have a nice glass of wine at this price in a good restaurant?). We brought home coconut cream torte and mango cheesecake tart from the bakery case and oh my were they delicious. The bakery items displayed in and around the case were beautiful, unique and abundant. Service was awesome. If there had to be a drawback to this place, I'd say it would be the noise level and small tables inside the eatery. I say go and enjoy!

I was there for lunch today, cute place with a simple menu. Assorted salads, sandwiches... medium priced. We sat on the patio (which is dog Friendly) cooled by a nice bay breeze..I was starving after spending the whole morning at the hospital doing blood test..( had to be fasting..) The waitress recommended the quiche.. "we are known for it" she said.. i followed her advice and chose the Lorraine( classic ham and gruyere cheese) I regretted my order after the first bite.. Blend and under seasoned.. inexistent cheese.. no flavor at all.. Unfortunately a quiche lorraine is all about cheese.. It came with a nice side of greens with just the right amount of vinaigrette.. and a side of bread which saved my lunch.. Too bad.. the spot was cool, th staff was friendly.. but blend food doesn't do it for me..

Well, I never actually got to eat here. We were looking for a place to grab a quick meal the other night at around 6PM and we decided to look at the menus. I had my 16 month old with me as well as 5 other adults. The place was less than half full and half of those people were leaving. The woman who was in charge that evening took one look at my son and in TRUE French fashion said she would not have anything available until 8PM. Oh really? 8pm? The place was almost empty. She should have said, "What time does he go to bed? Oh 7? e have nothing until 7:30". When I was a child we were in Paris. I believe I was 7 or 8 years old. We had a reservation at a 4 Star Michelin restaurant and when we got to the door the maitre'd took one look at me and said they had no tables available. My Father was furious, the place had ONE table with a woman and her dog. (Yes, the dog WAS sitting at the table) Anyway, we didn't eat there. This reminded me off this because two men were sitting at a table with their little dogs in their laps. Hmm... I guess this place really IS French.

Tartine is a European Cafe and is knows for its delicious pastries. The dishes are small and there are only a few options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but they are all good. Options include quiche, paninis, and salads. I like the atmosphere and it is right across from a bunch of touristy shops and the Coronado ferry, so it's a good place for visitors to walk around, buy souvenirs, and take beautiful pictures. All of their pastries are delicious, but I like the Mexican wedding cookies the best.

This place is cute and has a good tuna salad but the service and menu selection could be better. The guy who cleaned up everything (different from the woman who served us the food) was either in a little bit of a bad mood or doesn't know his own strength. There was lots of clinging and clanking of objects on the table and so forth. Not a bit deal, I just found it a little irritating. The selection of breakfast items is really lacking--that's prolly my biggest complaint. You can't get scrambled eggs and what not. If you serve breakfast, that should at least be an option for goodness sake. You should consider visiting just because of the location. That is its best asset.

Yummy, yummy food and desserts! I've had the caprese sandwhich, one of their weekly special gnochis, tried a variety of their cheescakes, and creme brulee. I hosted my birthday here with a group of college aged girlfriends. The waitress was pretty rude to our group and I contacted Tartine management following the visit. They sent an aplogoy note and gift card to enjoy a second chance. The second time, I enjoyed dinner with my roommate on the patio. Our water was always full, the two different gnocchis we ordered were delectible, and the staff was more than friendly. I'd definitely reccomend Tartine--just not for big groups.

I wish there were more tartines on the menu at Tartine (perhaps this place would be more appropriately named Panini) but I did enjoy my lunch the other day. We got the mixed greens, melon, and parmesan salad with balsamic dressing and prosciutto as well as the roasted eggplant, red bell pepper and goat cheese panini; you definitely get your money's worth in the cheese department at Tartine! I have never seen so much goat cheese on a sandwich... fantastic. I wish the sandwich had been a little hotter, but it was really tasty and the bread was pretty delish. The salad was generously topped with prosciutto crudo and shaved Parmesan along with what appeared to be an entire chopped up cantaloupe; I think I managed to get a bit of everything in each bite. Yum! Unfortunately, my satiated appetite could only handle ogling the desserts through the display cases... I'll be seeing you next time, chocolate loaf cake. The lunch menu, though not particularly unique, has a good number of options and is likely to satisfy a variety of palates (esp. within the sandwich/salad area). This is probably a pretty good place to search out if you feel like skipping the tourist traps in Coronado landing. Go inside and check out the baked goods before you order lunch so you can compartmentalize your stomach beforehand (I wish I'd done this).

The desserts are amazing. cheesecake is french style and not American or NY style and that's a lovely and less rich change. share it with someone though. My fave is the Gorgonzola sandwich. it has pears, walnuts and a house champagne vinaigrette that is to die for. a side salad is also dressed with the vinaigrette. i want an IV of that stuff injected permanently. A date i once took there said that the ham, gruyere and dijon was the best ham sandwhich he ever had. my now husband was less than pleased with his turkey sandwich and rightfully so. it looked awful and boring and tasted the same. the quiche is mediocre too. my advice, get the gorganzola sandwich, any cheesecake or mouse or creme brule or dessert or pastry and you will have an amazing meal. The service is often pretty bad and don't get coffee with dessert,. in fact, take everything to go, have as picnic and just go enjoy the island.

Desert was good. "Mexican Mocha" was the best mocha ive ever had! The only downside was there were three people smoking just outside the patio (which is a smoke free zone). I asked the barista as well a waiter to have the men removed/told to leave. I made eye contact when telling them, but they all carried on and have a cowardly look down/away. I asked the waiter a second time to speak to the smokers. He nodded as if he was going to say something then went back to waiting tables!!! I asked the smoker to leave and he willingly did first try! review: Food: great Ambiance: excellent Service: great Moral courage of barista (white guy with beard) and two waiters (bald mexican guy): Needs improvement.

I've been to Tartine a handful of times and their food, while consistently nice, is overshadowed by their service. It is slow like molasses. I swear glaciers move faster. The staff, however, have generally been very polite and courteous barring one occasion when my sister and I showed up for an early lunch on a weekday. The place was nearly empty, with a few customers lounging outside and an old couple gumming some oatmeal of whatever inside near the window. Immediately after walking in, a blonde woman (a hostess, maybe, or manager?) shrieked, "Do you have reservations?" From behind the counter. While pointing at us. We weren't dressed poorly, weren't cradling fresh road kill or bottles of Tequila Rose in our arms, so it came as a mild shock to be barked at like filthy street magicians who'd just crashed a very exclusive, yet unexciting, party. A lovely waitress came over quickly after that and got us seated and served without any further dramatics. I enjoyed my lunch, but haven't been back since. The caprese panini with added prosciutto is yummy, as is the hot chocolate. Anyway, that's the gist: tasty food, sometimes good service, shrieking harpy. I'd be back more often if there were more consistency in how customers are treated. Also, if they had a trampoline or performing Michael Jackson impersonator, because those are always awesome.

Location, location, location. Yes, this applies to this cafe as well as the location is a huge draw. A lot of people have nailed this place on service. I've been here twice and can say that I was well taken care of both times. Our server/hostess was helpful in explaining the coffee drinks to me, as a macchiato here is not what you will get at starbucks. But I did enjoy the macchiato here. Blood orange cheesecake was decadent, a nice twist on an old favorite. The place was a bit busy that night, one poor server dropped a desert and we got some entertainment as it shattered on the floor. But we saw that they handled it with grace and fixed it right away. The place is pricey however.

Soup and salad were delish. Quiche just average despite the sales pitch. Cavernously loud inside but pleasant outside. Not great for kids.Limited seating so be prepared for a wait. Desserts 1) look better than they taste; 2) are heavy on the real whipped cream; and 2) are sized according to American instead of French standards.

We've been to Tartine couple times. The food is delicious but the service needs a better touch and training, not just the servers but as well as the manager that does not manages his employees well. Today, 07/27/3, we were there w/ our family, it took more than 20 min after we arrived and sitting down..... asked 3 times to see who was helping us, and finally we got help. The only person w/ manners was the guy that served us water. After a long time we were served but my daughter's food didn't. It took another 15 min after we complaint several times and our waitress never came and apologize w/ care and concern. Around us, there were other people complaining as well w/ the same problem. I would like to suggest to the owner to be there and better help her/his employees. They all need to be polite, have GOOD manners to deal and respect their customers and the manager needs to learn how to manage, he doesn't know. It is vacation time, so get help.

Perfect little place to grab a quick breakfast, lunch, or very surprising dinner. Nice baked goods (gruyere and bacon scone) and really good coffee. The menu is limited but EVERYTHING is perfectly done, sized appropriately, and very freshly made. Their outdoor patio is packed everything afternoon and night so if you want to guarantee a table call ahead - they will reserve one for you.

Okay, My wife and I just visited Tartine again yesterday. It was okay. Their deserts are good, not great, but good. The coffee has potential, but lacks what makes good coffee good, someone who really knows what they are doing. Honestly, I don't know if I'll get coffee here again. My wife is a fan of their chocolate mouse, so we will be back for that. Hmmm, 30 bucks for 3 servings of chocolate mouse, and a pretty terrible iced latte. That doesn't make me happy. If the coffee was good, I would have given them at least 4 stars. and if the coffee was good, and the service was nicer, then I would have even considered a 5 star ratting. Tartine, take a note. Make better coffee, and give nicer service.

This place is a little off the beaten path and away from the main strip of Coronado restaurants but it is worth the trip. Although it is not on the water, the water is in sight. They have a large patio area which is great, especially if you have a dog with you. I have only tried it for lunch but dinner sounds good as well. For lunch, they have a decent selection of salads, sandwiches and paninis. The curried chicken salad was refreshing and hand a good size portion of chicken salad, so that you did not feel like you had to eat again right away. The panini was also good sized. They serve it on a round roll that seems like a variation of an english muffin and focaccia bread. Not quite as good as normal focaccia but it wasn't bad. It was stuffed full of eggplant, roasted red peppers, and goat cheese and was accompanied with a side salad. They have one of the best dessert selections of any place I have seen in the city and better that some places that specialize in dessert. I was pretty full after lunch but forced myself to try one of the chocolate bread pudding a la mode. It was good but I was definitely overdoing it trying to polish off dessert as well.

Nothing special here and not much to eat for breakfast. The scones were hard as a rock and my mexican mocha wasn't all that great. Disliked the consistency of the egg in the quiche. I gave this place a 4 because the mexican mocha I had the night before was delicious. I think they should expand their menu.

I've been going here for coffee and dessert while I do laundry and the service has been ok. It's not the best, but it's not terrible. The coffee I've had was fine, though when I got a steamed milk they put in too much syrup and it was too sweet. I have LOVED the cheesecakes. The mandarin orange was kind of strange at first, but the crust was so good! The champagne cheesecake was also delicious (my favorite now)...the taste was subtle and addictive, and the chocolate sauce was so good I was almost licking the plate. It's expensive...maybe too expensive to be quite worth it...but it's great while the cheesecake lasts.

Food was good....cookies, cake and different types of coffee. Service was 'normal' for me...the order placement and delivery were efficient. I wasn't expecting much more than that....maybe the other folks got unlucky! or I got real lucky! In any case, I'd go back to this place...very inviting and relaxing, cozy neighborhood type of place that the locals seem to hang out.

Terrible, was in this morning for a cup of coffee to go. My daughter and I stood at the counter for 5 minutes while 3 employees walked past without a word no good morning no someone will be right with you so we left. I will never go back there and will let everyone I know about the terrible service!!!

I've been to this place twice - first and last time. Ordered the key lime cheesecake. It made me puke! I took my order to go and would have given it one star for customer service, but a busy, blonde waitress walking by did address my presence to let me know someone would be with me soon, hence 2stars. Kudos to that waitress. The cashier had the personality of an executioner. Careful, there are many friendlier places in Coronado with better and less expensive food. Lighten up!

The salad? Good! The sandwiches? YUM! The coffee? Mmmmmm! The lemon cookies? Definitely the shit. I'm dreaming of one now. I eat lunch every summer when I come home for a visit. Hit the beach, then hit Tartine...you won't be disappointed. P.S. I've NEVER had bad service. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy the beautiful day...you won't even notice if everyone's a little "relaxed".

just had the most delicious soup of my life there! the tomato basil soup with risotto is absolutely wonderful and much needed on a cloudy day like today. :) and their epi bread is always delicious (and one of the only times I indulge on straight carbs as a meal source haha). i've been there in the past where people sit themselves and have been overlooked, but not today! so 5 stars it is.

Stopped by here for lunch on a Sunday. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food was really good, but the food came out SLOW. There seemed to be plenty of front-of-house servers looking out after the customers, the problem seemed to be the kitchen keeping up with the demand. It took about ten minutes to get our bread. Admittedly, it was delicious, warm and with some wonderfully soft butter. We sat next to a table of what looked like a couple of arm-crossed surly teenagers there with their mom, but their faces lit up when they finally got their food. I thought "uh oh, I'm gonna have that same look on my face soon." It took about 35 minutes for us to get our plates. The brie wheel was very good, nice warm brie cheese with baguettes, accompanied by sprinklings of pistachios, raisins, olives, and thinly sliced apples, pears, and strawberries. The prosciutto panino initially tasted like it was overpowered by the cheese, but after a few bites it tasted pretty good. The portion sizes weren't huge, but they hit the spot. We split a the white chocolate cheesecake dessert as well, and that had a terrific flavor, not light but not terribly heavy either. I'm not generally a fan of white chocolate, so I thought I'd only have a couple of forkfuls, but the cheesecake flavor was so good I ended up eating an entire half.

This place is so good for a family dinner. And better yet pet friendly!!! They have great service and delicious food and dessert! I usually don't like mousse, but the chocolate mousse was excellent! It came with an excellent raspberry sauce! Also the, Banana Chocolate Chip Streusel Coffee Cake was phenomenal! It has the right amount of chocolate right down the middle, and also has nuts in it. So if your allergic to nuts, I suggest do NOT eat it!!!! I love Tartine! I eat here every time I come to Coronado!

This review is based solely on the service (or lack thereof). I was here last week during a visit to San Diego/Coronado. My uncle took us here for brunch on Memorial Day. My uncle and his wife tell me that dinner is very good and the service is much better. The service was flat out awful for brunch. After we were seated, no one came to help us. No one. Not until my uncle got the attention of a bus girl did we start to get some attention. She then told us unapologetically that she wasn't a waitress and wouldn't be able to help. We counted 5 girls (average age of 17) making coffee and tending the register. Not a single one came to help, and we weren't the only table who wasn't being helped. Finally, some frumpy looking woman came over to take our order and she looked like she had just sucked a bucket of lemons. She didn't even bother pretending like she gave a shit about us. It took so long that we had to take some food to go because we had to rush off to the airport. When we asked for the food to go, they brought it out on plates (!) and made us put it in the boxes ourselves. The unfortunate part is that the food was good, but I wouldn't rec'd this place for tourists visiting Coronado.

A cute-looking cafe, this place catches your eye amongst all the other cute-looking places in Coronado. The decor is cute, the little flowers are cute, it's all pretty... cute. The place is a nice location for a chat and a little bite to eat. It was slightly confusing to seat yourself at the beginning instead of getting seated by a staff person, but the staff there was friendly and everyone was pretty eager to help us out. We had the blooming teas, which are a ball of jasmine white tea that is placed in a wine glass with steaming hot water; slowly the ball "blossoms" as it hydrates. The pommes frites (french fries) were good: slender cuts with some seasoning, and garlic aioli sauce was very tasty. The desserts were very pretty in the window, and food for dinner looked like it would've been good; the place looks like a nice location for conversation and a bite to eat.

Nice little place for morning coffee and pastries. Popular w/both locals and tourists. Service can be a little pokey/indifferent, both at the counter and the tables. The sandwiches and salads are tasty, but can be almost too heavy (they go all out w/the cheese on the sandwiches). Their chocolate mousse cake is a standout, and they'll put a mini one in a little gift box for you to take and give away, or eat all by yourself later!

Great bistro! Caprease panini is terrific as well as the Gorgonzola tarting sandwich is the same! Bravo to the chef for the great selection of desserts, get the creme brûlée!

As a transplanted, card-carrying foody from San Francisco, I was over the moon to discover Tartine - in of all places, touristy Coronado. The menu is simple, featuring French-y style pates and cheeses, great grilled panini, perfectly dressed salads, and a pretty fabulous wine selection. On Wednesday they host a wine tasting called Women Who Wine - a fun night for everybody - not just the cougar wino chicks who show up with alarming regularity. But what rocks my world about this place is the desserts. The chocolate bread pudding, served warm with freshly made, REAL whipped cream will leave you pondering what you can forsake if only to enjoy this chocolate decadence on a monthly basis. You may have to wear the cilise as penance. The coffee is some of the best I've ever had (although spendy at $2.50 for a small cup), delicious Irish oats with dried cranberries and cream for breakfast, and the croissants - airy, buttery, flakey puffs - are the best I've eaten on this side of the big pond. Try the scones too - perfectly moist and positively delicious. The bad news (and hence the 3 stars) - if you sit outside, you'll all but be forgotten, and, you have to practically get down on bended knee for a coffee refill. The servers are friendly, albeit a bit spacey (or drugged) - once they make it to your table. But I still go because I miss European-style, San Francisco-inspired cafes with GREAT food, and this is as close as it gets. p.s. Gratefully, they've recently posted No-Smoking signs on their patio so you won't have to sit next to a gaggle of teenagers trying to act like "grown-ups" stinkin' up the joint.

A very nice place. They accomodated our small dog on the patio. Dinner was fantastic. Service was a little spotty, but this is a casual place. Very friendly staff who were patient with our French guests.

asked the concierge at the resort we are staying at for a local coronado restaurant that was casual yet served good food - not a burger bar. this place came up and it did not disappoint. the locale is great - over towards the boardwalk and the owner/staff made us feel right at home. we have a 2 year old so there several factors we need to consider when dining out. the staff were great at accommodating the seating and the menu for our little one. the food itself was excellent - try the rockfish! the desserts were well displayed and numerous. the new york cheesecake is ridiculously good! a great place for a tourist to get a very good meal in a signature san diego location. as a local on "staycation", this place will be one i bring out of town family and freinds to in future.

My husband and I tend to find a few restaurants we really like and stick with them, so we decided that we needed to expand our culinary knowledge of Coronado's restaurants and stopped by Tartine for lunch. We'd seen the cafe a few times from the outside and both of us thought it looked really cute. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I was quite disappointed. The menu was quite limited for lunch, mostly sandwiches, which I'm not too fond of. Nothing really caught my eye except for a tomato soup with risotto. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. I could make the same thing at home for less money and it wasn't enough to be a complete meal. It seemed really trendy, and it didn't have very comfortable seat; even the booths are unpadded, like church pews. All in all, I don't think we'll be back for lunch, but we might try it for dinner.

Came here when I first moved to Nado, and have not been back. I got a mocha, one of the worst. I thought it would be amazing after seeing all the yelp reviews. Bleh! Food was just ok. I much prefer Cafe 1134 on Orange. On the plus side, nice location, with nice decor and a cute outdoor seating area.

Food is excellent. Service is nonexistent. Torturous, even. There are plenty of great options in Coronado. I don't wish to encourage such lousy service by suggesting anyone eat here even if the food is remarkable. Would love it if they stepped up their act.

Best cappuccino I've had since I moved back from Europe. The pastries are good although they're more French inspired then French, too much sugar... Americanized. Other than that it's pretty good. The prices are a bit high but everything on Coronado is expensive.

Had amazing food and amazing service. No complaints at all. I was hesitant about ordering the spaghetti because I'm not 8 years old anymore, but it was outstanding. Delicious spicy sausage and a chardonnay sauce. We had a really good coconut cream dessert as well.

We went here for New Years Eve and the Chef Brian put on one excellent 3 course meal. Our main course was a medium rare steak and it didn't require a knife. It was delicious. You can also bring in your own bottle of wine and pay just a $10 dollar corkage fee. Excellent Server named Sara.

Perfect for a light breakfast. The bacon panini is so delicious. The mochas are good too - heavy on the chocolate, but for me, it's perfect. Walking distance to the Ferry. It's a fun thing to do if you want to park downtown San Diego, take the ferry for a quick bite, and back again....

Cute little place. Got the turkey sandwich without the artichokes. It came with a little salad on the side. Turkey sandwich was good, I thought it was a little plain but that is probably because I ordered without the artichokes. The salad was good too. Could only finish about half of my meal... the sandwich was very filling! Saving it for dinner :) Hoping to try some of their desserts another time.

Wow - giant gold dusted blackberries! Tartine has really tasty and creative baked goods and desserts. It's the perfect place to meet for coffee and a treat. Overall the food is great and I would give this place 5 stars but I have to agree with others that the service is poor. For starters when you walk in you're not greeted and expected to find your own table. There's a sign that says "Seat Yourself" but it's easy to miss. Our waitress was fairly attentive but then her shift ended in the middle of our meal (at 1:30 pm on a Saturday!) and we were pretty much forgotten. Also to comment on the posts about this being a counter oriented business - that's IF you can get someone's attention to place an order. The restaurant is very cool and drafty on a rainy day - don't sit near the exit to the restrooms. Luckily it doesn't rain that much in Coronado!

This little place was packing them in! My sister and I spotted Tartine as we were unable to locate our geocache...oh well we found this place instead! I was able to pick up a chocolate mousse cup which I enjoyed that night when we got home. A bit more than I would have liked to spend however given that you are in Coronado and I really wanted chocolate mousse I shelled out the $7.95. The restaurant was very crowded and close for comfort, but everyone's food looked great. The staff was very friendly.

Loved the atmosphere! Had a wonderfully fluffy lemon blueberry scone and an Americano that would make me swear off Starbucks forever if I lived closer. I enjoyed the rack of current magazines and the gorgeous pictures of pears on the chalkboard. I hope I have the opportunity to return and have lunch.

The view was gorgeous. The BF and I came here for some sweets to balance all that spicy Thai over by Swaddee. It was a nice day out the weekend we decided to come play, so we got our desserts to go and walked across the street to where the little "park" is and sat at the benches over looking the cove and eat there. The feel of this place is very relaxed and comfortable. They have a extensive menu of sandwiches, salads, and desserts. After much deliberation, we ordered their lavender mascarpone cheese cake, mint chocolate earthquake cookies, and a latte. The cheese cake was light and fluffy. It was almost like eating clouds. The cheese cake was not heavy or dense and not too sweet. You can taste a hint of the lavender in the filling. The mascarpone did a good job giving the cheese cake a sweet and tangy taste without an over powering cheese taste. Eaten with the latte was great. Nothing fancy here with their coffee, just standard traditional Italian style coffee. The mint chocolate earthquake cookies was on the heavier, sweeter side. These little chocolate cookies are covered with powdered sugar and have a scone like texture and a hint of mint. The service was great. The girls were friendly and gave advice if you can't decide on what to eat.

We noticed Tartine when we were getting wedding pictures taken in Coronado just a few hours before the ceremony. Having about 40 minutes to relax, we decided to come in for a drink and a small bite. Tartine was able to get us a table for 14 right away and had bread and water sent out within minutes. They were also able to serve us some Prosecco and light fare all within our small time frame. With a large group on a short time frame we were asking a lot of the place, but they did an amazing job and were pleasant the entire time. Now I can't wait to come back and try some of those desserts!

Great food....the menu changes every 2 or 3 days. All the food is bought locally, many times at Farmer's Markets throughout San Diego. The wait staff is fabulous and friendly. Tartine is my favorite eatery in San Diego.

This place has the WORST service in Coronado! It took about 10 minutes to even get a glass of water (which mine had a long piece of hair stuck to the side of the glass that the waitress just pulled off before walking away from the table)! Gross! Our waiter never came back to check on us because he was busy chatting it up with co-workers behind the counter. We had to ask the bus boy for refills on our drinks because the wait staff could not be torn away from social hour. They were all dressed like hobo's wandering on Pacific Beach as well. The food was eeh, ok, not great. Never going back and will tell all the people I work with on Coronado to choose elsewhere. $50.00 bucks out the window for a crappy lunch. Thanks Tartine!

tartine made a mean americano. and that's saying a lot. there fresh baked bread was delicious too. but i cant speak for anything else. they didn't seem too friendly though...i was with a big group of people including two toddlers (who were really behaving themselves) and i felt like we were getting vibed by them. good espresso though!

I'm giving these guys 2 stars because the service here was super slow! I ordered a Grilled Eggplant Panino & the consistency was dry, eggplant and goat cheese were lacking. The salad which came w/ the sandwich was plain. They didn't even leave dressing on the side. Husband ordered the NIcoise Tartine & complained that it was flavorless. The tuna sandwich at Subway is much better than this. His salad was also plain w/ out dressingl. I also ordered a Croque Monsieur for my son and requested that the mustard be removed. The waiter (Hispanic man) told us that we can remove the mustard w/ a knife. I requested mayo in place of the mustard. We never got it. The wait times to get our food and bill took longer than 5 minutes. THe place wasn't even packed! I am giving one extra star for the delicious Chocolate Bread Pudding. If we ever visit again, we'll skip the food and have dessert.

Tarine is tarty ! Conflicted about review 1 or 2 stars. Went in on New Years Eve day just to grab coffee and a warmed bun. The coffee came right away but she forgot about the bun. And taking the money. Walked around for a few mins. Another person came to counter and asked for menu and the waitress said we are booked. Not one table occupied inside or out (but all marked reserv). The person said. It was for take out but never mind and walked out. A few more mins came and went finally my server reappeared and without prompting said we don't have any tables tonight. Did she just forget she served me coffee ? Finally got the message through to her that I wanted to pay for coffee. No sorry excuse me or even oooopppps. Never got bun but didn't pay for it either. Snarky bunch ! but the coffee was good. So one star review but will give them two. I will give them the benefit of the doubt .... being busy on NYE even though they had two hrs to go before dinner rush. Yes I am a local but first itime In this place. Prob won't be back.

Love going to this place. I work on Coronado Island and love to escape to this cute cafe that makes/bakes their own breads and desserts. Their homemade soups, salads, and paninis are killer. You cannot go wrong with the Caprese Panini w/tomatoes, mozarella, basil, and balsamic vinagrette. Yum!!! The desserts are delightful...mousse, bread puddings, cookies, cheesecakes, tarts, creme brulee. There's something here for everyone. :)

So we tempted to have breakfast here. We sat outside, got our water, and menus. The menu had about 4-5 items for breakfast. We ended up venturing elsewhere. Disappointing. Based on the reviews, it must be a place for desert.

It's really too bad the service is so slow and spotty here because the food is excellent. If the service was better I'd rate this 5 stars. The bakery is fantastic, all the desserts are awesome. The food is high quality, fresh ingredients that are well prepared. Not a bad dish in the house. Coffee drinks are great.

This place is known for sweets but lord have mercy...the steamed black mussels at Tartine were the best I've tasted in my life. They were fat, juicy and fresh. Look for them if you decide to dine here. They're cooked in a white wine cream sauce with chopped fennel. Divine.

**EDIT: 7/19/2007: I'm getting steadily disappointed in Tartine. So, I knocked off a star. The last two times I went to Tartine, we were completely ignored. We had to flag people down for service, coffee refills, and even the check! Once I had to walk up to the register, point out my table and ask to please get my check. We used a credit card, and then when no one came back around to process it, I had to walk BACK up to the register to process and sign. What the hell? I can understand one off night, but twice in a row? Is this a restaurant or a self serve cafeteria?** My favorite entree is the Pan Seared Flat Iron Steak with Arugula, Gorgonzola, Tomato Salad, Pomme Frites and Cabernet Sauce. The quiche on their all day menu is really good, too. Wednesday nights are wine tasting nights, and the tables get reserved quickly. Like most places in Coronado, it is overrun with flies in the summertime.

Tartine is pretty solid if you feel like having a latte and a sandwich for lunch. The food is not amazing, but it is good and not super expensive. The sort of place where I go with a girlfriend and my 5 month old to be "ladies who lunch". Service is always friendly.

We had dinner there last summer. My wife and I became engaged that very weekend and having dinner at the Tartine was unforgettable ! ! The food was great...the waitresses was fun to talk to and kid with....great location...great desserts....Aug.2010 we went back to have dinner again to see if things had changed, we took my sister and brother in law this time, no surprise, it was great again... Chef "Billy" is my new best friend ! he came by the table and shared some fun conversation with us and his recipe for golden yukon potatoes ...when in San Diego this is a must dinner place... UPDATE...Nov. 16, 2013....once again we were back to see my friend Chef Billy and celebrate our Anniverary ...April had the spinanch salid con pollo...and I had the Pasta Cappollini...wow was that great, along with the great bread that was served , I was in heaven...once again Billy came by the table to see how I was doing, he told us about how he buys all his veggies and fruits for the restaurant at the farmers market near the Coronado landing on Coronado Island....how great is that....thanks Billy and staff..we had a great time.....

Our last day in San Diego we opted to head over the bridge to Coronado to explore. Instead of heading South into the heart of the tourist scene, we went North on a Google-maps based hunch, and discovered Tartine. Tartine is a wonderful little French cafe, well away from the tourist madhouse of downtown Coronado. We had a great breakfast where we all got our different needs met: Little Q needs bacon, Mama Q likes good fruit & pastries, and I need good coffee. And bacon. The staff was friendly, we ordered at the counter and they brought our food out when it was ready. They took good care of us, were timely with the check, and kept our needs met throughout the meal. Later we wandered in to Coronado and were stunned at how touristy the South side of the island is. Thank goodness for Tartine! Get an outside table on a nice day and enjoy incredible views of downtown San Diego, the Bay and the shipping traffic.

Love you Tartine! Thank you for fixing a bad lunch somewhere else! My friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice dessert in Coronado after a crappy lunch in Encinitas. We yelped dessert and this place came up on her iphone! We ordered a split of champagne and 3 desserts. We hadn't seen each other in a bit and may have overstayed our welcome, but never felt rushed from the staff. We were probably there 3 hours, catching up with each other. We had a macaroon~excellent, they offer it with or without chocolate. We also had the coconut cream pie, I know what you are thinking, but this was not like anything I have ever had it was rich, creamy and real chunks of coconut. The third dessert was the chocolate mousse...it was some of the best I have had lately. I remember Piret's, owned by the Munger's, in the late 80's and I loved them. This is a cross between Piret's and Cafe Chloe. I can't wait to bring Paul here for dinner, everything on the menu looks great. Good prices, fresh and delicious items....this is going to be one of my go to places!

For this place, I'll actually get in my car...see, after living within walking distance of the 'village' (Coronado's heart) for awhile, you develop an aversion to cars. I'll also head here to pick up a dessert to serve at a dinner party when I just don't feel like putting the effort in myself. The food is good, not outstanding, but the setting is nice (especially on the patio). I typically go here for a light breakfast, sweets (great mochas & decent tea), or lunch...and when having a meeting, this is the first place I suggest. Dinner can get busy and I have a hard time paying the higher prices for the casual atmosphere...we've actually encountered such a crowd a couple of times that we had no choice to go elsewhere. I've never had bad service, but nothing top-notch either.

  • Benjamin V.

Servers were downright rude. My wife was scolded for asking to sit at a table after ordering at the counter (our child needed to nurse), the food sat at the counter for 10 minutes before she finally got someone's attention to get it. The servers were sarcastic and condescending. I'm not sure where they get the attitudes from, but we'll never go there again.

I've only ever been here for lunch. I ordered a Gorgonzola, pear, baguette and it was amazing. Everything was perfect, even the coffee. The atmosphere is very relax and the staff is friendly. The only thing I was not fond of was the fact that there was a little bird walking around on the floor by my feet. I guess that is part of the charm though.

Breakfast and lunch are fine. Exactly what you'd expect. I've never had any problems with service. Prices are reasonable for food, but desserts are over priced and not as good as some other reviews have indicated. The only dessert that is KILLER is the Lemon Bar. YUM YUM YUM!

I got a text from one of my best friends, Sarah, this morning a bit after 7 AM. My alarm had gone off but I was doing what we call goooing in bed (i.e. rolling around in bed, in and out of sleep, with little intention or desire to wake up). All she had to do was put the word "Coffee" in her text and I was at Tartine on First and Orange (right across the street from the Ferry Landing on Coronado Island) in no time. Only four of the many tables were taken, the place was serene with great soft lighting and seating indoor and out. There was a huge case of the most delicious pastries and baked goods you've ever seen and all your favorite coffee drinks, exotic and classic, ready for your ordering. I always choose salty over sweet so I went with a Spinach and Tomato slice of quiche and a drip coffee. Sarah sat down to join me and I dug in. Right off the bat: Best Quiche of My Life. I don't even SUPER like quiche but I've had it a lot. It looks like pizza...sometimes I get confused...BUT this slice made me a believer. Two reasons: It had equal parts of delicious gruyere cheese and egg and the crust was exceptional. Somehow they made a thick, dense crust flaky? I dunno, but I tore right through it and I'm a person weary of eggs, especially coupled with morning grogginess and only into the first 1/4 of my coffee. I also loved the fruit salad that came alongside. I work right under the Coronado bridge so I got to hang out and enjoy the view of the harbor skyline and wake up without being late for work. Tartine is open for three meals a day and features tasty Euro Cafe items ranging from an assortment of paninis to Roasted Duckling! Whether it's for coffee and creme brulee in the morning or Curry Chicken Salad and Steak at night, Tartine is a great place to dine alone or with friends any time of the day. Say HEY! to Sarah if she's working there :)

Get whatever's on the nightly specials menu. Salad, entree, doesnt matter. I just had their "Bistro salad"($11), and I cant say I've had a better salad in my life. Maybe none as good - and I'm 48. It was neither complex nor pretentiously plated, but was unbelievably satisfying. I wont do it justice by listing ingredients - in fact if I confided it involved poached eggs, greens and bacon, you might be turned off. Just get it - and enjoy. The fisherman's plate was around $23 and worth every penny. Shellfish, fish and sausage simmered in a sublime, fennel-infused tomato broth. The seafood - clams, mussels, shrimp and bass - were expertly cooked. For dessert, a lemon raspberry tart that we're both talking about a week later. Our young server screwed up my coffee order and yeah, the service is slow (and sometimes not the most informed) - but it's pleasant enough. The food is so ridiculously good we just buy champagne and laugh over the fact we're "trapped" for two hours plus in an intimate Coronado bistro serving some of the best food of our lives.

This place is very cute and everything I have eaten here has been amazing. The dessert is a MUST and you won't regret it later either. The mocha is definitely better than Starbucks and lunch was very fresh and not crazy expensive. I highly recommend eating something at this place before leaving the island.

I give the food 3 stars ...but my selection was nothing really out of this world..something I can whip up at home. I like the fact they serve Orangina. I had the ham and Brie on baguette and my friend had the prosciutto with Parmesan and arugula... Like I said nothing really spectacular..but more of a place to have a tasty dessert and some cafe surrounded by a pleasant location.

Had the double chocolate bread pudding when i was in coronado last week. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. It was really nice and moist and tasty. Will go back to San Diego for this pudding...yumm

Tartines is small but the food is wonderful and the staff is friendly. I haven't had as many sit-downs for dinner here as I have a stop-by for dessert. God, I love their desserts.

My wife and I have been going to Tartine for several years now, and their food is excellent. I've tried most of the items on their menu, and they were all prepared well. Often they will have a wine special which is also very good. This is a great place!

I should preface this review with a disclosure, I worked at this restaurant for a summer. With that being said for those who have worked in the food industry often after you have worked somewhere you never want to eat there again- not so for Tartine. I still dream about the Gorgozola Tartine, a sandwich made of the freshest, softest bread, candied walnuts, pears, mache, and champagne vinaigrette. The fare is typical of a European style cafe, fresh and tasty sandwiches and delectable salads. But the pastries put this restuarant over the top. From the largest selection of cheesecakes you can imagine to the fresh fruit pavlova to the decedent white chocolate pistachio bavarian torte you just can't go wrong with their desserts. For breakfast, lunch or dinner, I promise you will be pleased.

Nice atmosphere. Nice outdoor space to sit and easy street parking. Nice selection of pastries and drinks, but very limited food menu after breakfast. A bigger menu would be nice. Also, definitely not cheap.

This is the place where the locals linger over morning coffee and pastry post-yoga. Later, you'll see Coronadans enjoying a terrific salad or sandwich for lunch. Dinner hour finds relaxed diners savoring a glass of wine with one of the nightly specials on the comfortable patio. Yes, the service can be spotty, but the food is some of the best on the island.

Good coffee and great pastries. When sitting down to eat, the service isn't all that and the sandwiches are ok. I miss living right around the corner, so I'll occasionally make the trip back over the bridge for coffee and scones...they're worth it.

I keep coming back because it feels like your on a little vacation from the relative hustle and bustle of SD. For some reason this place transports me. Everything is good, nothing is spectacular. Enjoy the getaway.

I love the location! It is so cute I just love seating there and enjoying a glass of wine and dessert. Food: I've had one of their prosciutto and provolone paninis (they don't call it that b/c they are French and not Italian, but I can't remember now what the girl said they were). The prosciutto was salty enough and the provolone cheese pretty basic. But the mix is great and I am a sucker for good bread- which is their specialty. The desserts I've had here have always disappointed me, they look wonderful and always ended up being bland. Last time I was there I had some caramel millfleur dessert, which look so luxurious but ended up tasting like old pastry and bland caramel, don't be fooled into that one. I am sure one of the other 100 torts, tarts, cakes, pastries, etc, in that place are as good as they look. I just need to keep on trying. Atmosphere: hands down their best feature. How can you beat the view, the ocean breeze, and outside seating? They have a wine list: have a glass of wine and pretend you are in Europe! PS: The servers are a bunch of teenagers, so don't expect much.

Went there on Labor Day and yes they were busy, but that does NOT excuse the atitude and behavior of the wait staff. Upon our arrival, one of the waiters simply said "we're busy" when my wife asked about a table for four. While waiting, I overheard a family ask for the check they had previously asked about 15 minutes prior...the exascerbated waiter (dark hair, glasses and ATTITUDE) exclaimed, "hey, we're busy what do you want me to do?"....Really? He then proceeded to fling open the door making a spectacle of himself whilel leaving the family that had simply asked for their check aghast...I don't care HOW busy you are, you DO NOT treat customers like that...EVER! This guy should lose his job with that type of attitude...maybe he'd be better off in a different job....like doing dishes in the kitchen, NOT waiting on people that PAY his salary....disgusting and, oh by the way, I never saw a manager come to help...

This restaurant has the slowest kitchen service ever. We ordered a sandwich and waited for 30+ minutes. Then when we flagged down our server, she said there was a mix-up in the kitchen and apologized for the wait. They didn't even give us an estimate on how long we will have to wait for our dish. We waited a while longer and decided to just get the check and left. They didn't really have much of a variety in terms of a breakfast menu either.

We've been here for breakfast several times with friends who live in Coronado. Tartine is a charming little bakery/bistro with delectable desserts and a small but interesting menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner items. Every table has been filled when we've been there. Something as simple as toasted ciabatta with butter or cream cheese and fruit preserves or the ham and gruyere quiche with a small green salad, along with a fine cup of coffee, hits all the right notes. I hope to come back for their mussels and frites dinner and a nice glass of wine sometime soon, not to mention some of those fabulous desserts!

Fantastic sandwiches, great coffee and even a decent cafe wine list. Eat outside. The like dogs and generally have a water bowl or treats out there. One of the hipper places to have lunch on the island. The staff is also very friendly.

FOOD: They have a few vegetarian options on the dinner menu. Yay! 1. Grilled eggplant panini - comes with a side salad - simple vinagrette with dark mixed greens. Generous with goat cheese - yum. Very filling. 2. Wine - Malbec - full bodied red wine from Argentina, very good but I'm not a wine expert either. First time having it. They serve it in cute little bottle containers that you pour into a wine glass. It's approximately 2 glasses per bottle container. Their wine list is more extensive than listed online. SERVICE: It was good in the beginning when we arrived around 8pm but towards the end of the dinner it was quite slow. Maybe because they were closing? However, service wasn't horrendous in contrast to the other posted reviews. ATMOSPHERE: It was so hot inside so we chose to sit outdoors, which was nice with the comfortable weather. Nice area to walk around afterwards since it's right by the bay across from downtown. PARKING: on the street without any problems CONCLUSION: Small, very cute place. Nice for a casual dinner. Tempted to go back to try desserts!

We had a really great meal and evening here. The service was fine for us (party of six). The orders included the eggplant/goat cheese panino, the caprese panino, the flat iron steak, and the special panino - grilled ham and Gruyere cheese.Good bottle of Italian red wine. New York cheesecake and a fresh hot coffee cake with cappuccinos for dessert. Casual atmosphere and really good food - it's a winner!

Ok, I hate to be doing even a somewhat bad review, but I am not happy with this place's service either. I have been 3 times and each time, it seemed that our waitress/waiter did not take care of us as she should have. The first time it was a young girl about 17/18 and she acted as if she were stoned. The second was a guy and he just abandoned us and the people who sat down next to us a few minutes after. The couple next to us sat there for about 15 minutes before the guy got up and went to the counter for water. He came back and told the girl that someone was going to come out soon. We sat and waited for our food and finally it came about 30 minutes later. That poor coupple sat and talked the whole time and got no service! We waited for what seemed like forever for our cappuccinos and finally my husband went in to tell them. Still that couple had no menus and got no service. The guy went back inside and asked for menus. We finished our coffee and waited for the check...which we had to go in and just pay. That's not how it usually works there, but it did that day. That poor couple ended up leaving after they drank their water. What is up with this? The third time was just slow and mediocre service from a girl who seemed overwhelmed by the 3 tables she had. It's good food, but this place would be awesome if they hired good people! The food: I got a portabella panini and it was really good. It came with a nice spring mix salad. My husband got some sort of chicken panini and salad and he liked his too. The view of the bay is nice and it's a peaceful street with a nice outdoor patio to cool off on. Too bad they aren't more concerned with the service. I think they are more geared to take counter sales with the baked goods than as a fully functional restaurant.

Whenever anyone asks me where to meet for breakfast in Coronado, Tartine is the first place I think of. They have great espresso and breakfast treats. I also love coming here for a glass of wine in the afternoon. Only downside, not a lot of sunlight on the patio out front. But whatever, it's a total locals spot that is very tasty.

Had the quiche, it was very good, the side salad was really tasty with light, flavorful dressing. I ordered two desserts to go. $7 each?! Wow. The chocolate mousse was not up to par and had an odd aftertaste, like it was sharing the refrigerator case with a tuna-fish sandwich. The service was okay, not great. Got a little bit of an attitude. If I was in the area, I would order the quiche again.

Great foods, but service is terrible. I have been here twice, and both times the service was very slow. It takes forever to get your menu, drinks, foods order and check. I would reccomend the place only if you are patience and have lots of time to spare. Doesn't seem like the waitress/waiter care.

First time at this place and if I come back to Coronado I would for sure go back to this place. It's a laid back cute bakery/cafe. The price is right too. We each got a salad and shared the caprese panini with fries and it was plenty! It's a small place so you may want to call ahead just in case. We were lucky to get one of the few remaining "two tops" especially for a Saturday night! It gets really busy at dinner time! Great find!

Discovered this place last Saturday we took the ferry over to Coronado. We had already eaten lunch so we stopped in for some sweet treats in the late afternoon on our way home. Two iced coffees and a pavlova later we were very happy! We'll be back soon. We just wished there was an option to get more fruit on the pavlova.

It's rare to find a good cafe and bakery in San Diego. Thankfully Tartine was one of those places. It is a bit expensive, but the desserts and pastries are excellent. Their blend coffee is also excellent, plus you get free refills! Their tea selection is also good. There used to be a WiFi hotspot nearby that allowed you to log onto the net from within Tartine, but it disappeared. I don't know if it has come back though. Still, Tartine is an excellent place to come to read, study, write, or bring a friend. The nice view of downtown San Diego from across the bay doesn't hurt either. I also wonder if the owner is Australian, since Baclavas and ANZAC cookies are always on sale.

Great contemporary French bistro that will surpass your expectations, even with the simplest lunch dish on its menu. The prices are beyond decent for the quality you'll end up ravishing and savoring til the last bite. The menu addresses all the food needs you might have: breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, coffee, tea, champagne (god, do I Iove seeing a slew of veuve cliquot champagne in the beverage cooling tray when I enter a casual bistro). The croque monsieur and panini I ordered have been consistently scrumptious, and what I find exceptionally pleasant is the salad accompaniment that comes with it--a delight of its own. The mesclun is crispy fresh, and the dressing is minimalistic with a fleur de sel, dijon and oil mix that doesn't suffocate the salad but enhances it just right. The fact that their excellent chardonnay by the glass is served in a small carafe (French style), which equates to 2 glasses instead of one is a nice change from the usually stingy quantity you experience at other restaurants. Another service charmer is the mini cast iron teapots in which your tea is brought to you.
