I placed a phone order for chicken tikka not too long ago and I'm glad I did. The food was fantastic but it took over an hour until it was ready for pick up. This place is super small, and is always pretty busy which makes dining in nearly impossible.

Awesome food. A must visit place for Indian food.

I have read the favorable reviews of this Indian restaurant in Camarillo and have been longing to try it. Finally, had our chance on Friday, May 22 for dinner. It is a small restaurant and filled to capacity not too long after the later afternoon/early evening opening time. Tables are clean and topped with clean white cloths and paper sheets on top. We ordered naan (garlic and plain variety), chicken lollipops - chicken drumsticks with the meat pulled to one end and cooked as such, chicken bombay, chick marsala, and two orders of saffron rice. Food was good and flavorful. Please note that there was a 20 - 30 minute wait for the poultry food items as stated in the menus. Also, the items were ordered separately as opposed to a dinner combination. The food tasted good and was flavorful. Gave 4 stars - docked 1 star for the wait time. Will definitely come back again.

Ugh this place should get 5 stars. The food is worth 5 stars. But the service is so shotty I find myself debating whether or not I actually want to go and just deal with it. Story time. Once dined there for lunch, left my jacket there. Place is not so big, so I call to ask about it. Guy answers me in less than 5 seconds, so I know he didn't bother to look. So I called back later, asking to please look at the table where I sat; again they said it wasn't there. I KNEW it was there, it had to be. Sure enough, I drove all the way back into Camarillo and there was my jacket, right where I left it and where I asked them to look. So that was a little annoying. Second story. I don't think the owner (I'm assuming he's the owner) let's anyone else there do any work besides refill drinks and bring to-go boxes, which really slows everything down. Once he was on the phone and the other people there would not take our order, they said we needed to wait until he was off the phone. So whatever, a 15 minute wait to place an order so dude can finish his call is a little annoying (again). Also lunch took almost 2 hours that day. Which is fine, but just be prepared for hit or miss service, it's slow, it's small, but gosh darnit the food is worth it. Just don't expect over the top service, but you can expect over the top food.

This is the BEST Indian food I've ever had. Never had a bad meal there. Anyone I've ever brought there comes out fan. Even people who never thought they liked Indian food. The Chicken Tikka is so tender and flavorful. The chicken Tikka masala is great as is the chicken saag which is my personal favorite. Can't go there without having the garlic cauliflower to start. It's insanely delicious. Sweet and spicy at the same time. Excellent Variety of naan bread. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because sometimes the service is a little slow and the wait to get in is long sometimes. I wish they would expand to a slightly larger location with more tables and servers. But overall it's BEST!!

The Curry Leaf is a Camarillo gem tucked in the corner of Mission Oaks Plaza next to CVS Pharmacy. While quite small and usually crowded, it is crowded for a reason. The food and service is absolutely fabulous. I have been coming here for a number of years ever since the took over after the previous fish restaurant went out of business. The food here is always fresh and provides the taste that you would expect from an Indian restaurant. If you don't want to dine in or are in a hurry, you can always order to go and then pick it up after it is ready. Either way, the food will always taste great and keep you coming back for more.

Awesome flavors. Chicken 65 and Chicken Lolipop are to die for. Very casual ambience and a very pleasant host

I understand why there were so many take-out orders being made on that Saturday night. The restaurant was full and we waited about 15 minutes for our party of 3. While we were waiting, there was a couple with a kid who walked in and persuaded one of the waiters to let them sit at the 2-person table while their kid could sit on the side. I thought that was a bit unfair. On top of the table cloths were paper table cloths to make clean up easier for the staff. I found it a bit bothersome that the corner of the paper was sticking out right in front of me. No worry, just fold it underneath and you're good to go! On the menu it states to expect a wait for the food. We ordered the garlic cauliflower appetizer, garlic naan, paneer masala, tandoori fish, and chicken tikka masala. The garlic cauliflower was pretty good. If something has 'garlic' in the title I expect there to be a distinct garlic taste. However, this dish didn't have that :( It was still good, though. Reminded us a lot of the orange chicken you get at Panda Express. The masalas were tasty and flavorful.. great sauces to sop up with the garlic naan. The owner, I presume, seemed to know a lot of his customers. He greeted everyone and checked on the tables to make sure everything was okay. I overheard the owner rushing the guys so the environment felt a bit hectic at times with all the waiters rushing around.

I love the food when I can get it. Opening hours are advertised as 11.30-3. Reality is that they close whenever they feel like it. Arrived once and was told the kitchen closes at 2.45. OK, have to get there by 2.45 Get there at 2.30 CLOSED. So what time is closing time???? Food is great, just impossible to get sometimes. So I guess I'll make believe closing time is 2....or 1.....who knows.

Curry Leaf has really good food. Tonight was my first night dinning here. I must say The Gobi Manchurian is really tasty, next to what I've had in India. Definitely recommend the paneer Manchurian as well. The only set back which is kind of a big one is the service. It's so sloooooww! They don't seem to have a process or routine for seating customers. They don't seat customers in an orderly fashion. They also took the order of people people who came in after me before me. They take a long time to bring your food. Also they don't have high chairs, which establishment doesn't have high chairs these days? If the management could work on these issues the place would be perfect :)

One of the best Indian places in California. The flavor in meat and the sauces are amazing. The owner is also very nice. I'd give it 5 stars

As many have said before me ,SERVICE IS SLOW! Took forever to get our check. We had to wait for the owner to talk to his friends! The food is alright. Never, again!

FOOD: * Chicken tikka masala- delicious! * Chicken Bombay- a darker spicier curry. Still very good * Bhindi masala- some of the best okra I've had * Yellow dal- I was not a fan of this dal. It had a lemon flavor that wasn't working for me * Rice- the rice was good as usual however I felt the portion size was a little small so you may want to order two * Mango lassi- AMAZING! It's so thick and has such a beautiful mango flavor. I would come back just for that * Garlic naan- delicious delicious delicious SERVICE: Everyone was very nice and respectful FAVORITE DISH: mango lassi, tikka masala and naan PRICE: the dishes range from $9-$13 which is fairly average for Indian food, however since the portions are slightly smaller im inclined to say it's a little on the pricier side DIETARY OPTIONS: Vegetable dishes available but nothing is explicitly stated "gluten free" or "vegan"

We have been back to the curry leaf about five or six times since my last review. I will say that the dining experience has lacked its luster the last few times as well as flavor. For whatever reason the seasoning/flavor/sauce whatever it is that they use for the garlic cauliflower, garlic shrimp, chicken 65 etc...you know what I mean if you eat there, has changed. It is more soupy now, I really can't explain it but they changed it up a bit and we don't like it as much. So kind of sad about that. The rice hasn't seemed really fresh lately and just overall a bit overpriced. The NAAN also doesn't taste like it used to. Can't put my finger on it but it just isn't what it was and that makes me sad. It used to be our favorite place to go in Camarillo...now we need to find another go to place after a long day at work.

Sandy, the owner is the hardest working restaurant in Camarillo hands down. He greets me my fiancé with hugs and really cares how we've been and what we have to say about his product. Absolutely try the cauliflower appetizer it will blow your brains out. Every time we sit down to order we just say Sandy, just give me whatever you think is the best. Never fails to be top notch in the best of ever had

  • Steve C.

All I can say is excellent food and I must go back to try other dishes. I had the chicken Dhaniya and it was tasty along with the naan. My mom loves Indian food and she was extremely happy with her meal.

  • Kent V.

Excellent, consistent food and inspiring service. Feels like home cooking and the boss treats you like family. Yes, it does get busy, especially at noon time, but that is to be expected with such amazing and delicious made to order meals. I am the duke, so trust me you won't be disappointed. Ask for it spicy if you like it real deal. Garlic nan is a must. One of the best Indian/Pakistani restaurants around! Closed on Mondays!

  • Mary K.

Absolutely delish! Garlic Naan, chicken tikka masala, lamb korma , Indian fried rice. Everything was fabulously good! Very nice people. We will be regulars.

Service is very very slow. Starter and main menu come together. Owner has rude beheviour toward Indian.I do'not know why....Avoid this.Owner should learn politeness.

Don't believe the bad reviews because this place is THE best indian food ever. Service could be slow but they are nice and attentive if you tell them.

  • Nicole M.

First, let me say: I hate Indian food. I thought. Would never go to an Indian restaurant. My husband loves it, so I agreed to try Curry Leaf. Wow. My husband's Chicken tikka masala smelled and tasted heavenly. The owner recommended I try something called korma, supposedly favored by nobles and royalties, made from cashews. They added shrimp. Wonderful! And don't miss the fried garlic cauliflower appetizer! The creamed spinach was good, too. Now, the coconut and mushroom soup was tasteless. But that's pretty much the only complaint. He should have taken it off our bill, as neither of us has a second bite. The next day, I was craving those sauces! Even the kids, who aren't very adventurous, wanted the leftover sauces over meatloaf! Even if you're not a fan of Indian food, give this place a try.

Curry Leaf in Camarillo with amazing people from work! If you haven't been there...What are you waiting for? It is DELICIOUS! I really appreciated our server giving input on all the dishes and letting us know his favorites. The creamy chicken masala, the savory lamb stew and the soft herb naan bread romanced the senses and made my stomach scream for more. #indian #goodeats #indianfood #jesstorres #Camarillo #thousandoaks #food #foodie #goodfood #greatfoodgreatcompany #eatingout #foodforfoodies #restaurant #restaurants #venturacounty #diningout #yummy

Tried this place for the first time today, and will never go back. Found a hair in the korma at the start of the meal. There were 3 other food items untouched. Still charged us for everything except the korma. I don't recommend this place.

Definitely a hidden gem. They are the best Indian food around with excellent vegan and vegetarians options available. We always leave satisfied

  • Margie S.

Hidden gem in Camarillo. Garlic cauliflower was amazing. Meat samosas and tikka chicken were good also. Chicken was all white meat. Server was very nice but owner insists on taking all the orders and he forgot an item in our order.

  • Jeff R.

Food (taste/portion) and service is excellent. Owner Sandy is classic and a bit of a comedian. A must have is the garlic cauliflower appetizer. All the naan's are delicious and the curries... mmmmmmm. Pick a favorite, mine are the Tikka Masala and Saag. Add in a few nice bitter beers and you have a dimond in the rough (Camarillo).

Curry Leaf has the best Indian food I've ever had in the US, and I've tried a lot of places. (Best Indian food, short of India, is England.) I've long looked for a curry house in the US that matched England's, and this is as close as it gets. Outstanding food.

Darn it...... it has/had such good potential....... but potential just isn't good enough in my book. First of all, the place is way too small. What tables are there, they were too cramped together, and while I've seen worse elsewhere, the truth is, I just don't like eating so close to others. That'd even be okay if that was the only issue. What I believe to be the owner, we spent 15 minutes listening to him rudely insult one of his table servers. I couldn't see that the young man was doing anything wrong, per se, but to hear the owner, you'd think the younger man/table server had committed the worst crimes. Every sentence had some serious curse word added, and while I myself am no stranger to cursing, I felt it was inappropriate...... especially in as small a dining area as this place has. To add insult to injury, the owner made mistakes of his own with our order. So, who is he to insult his worker when he himself can't get it right? We asked for 2 orders of soup......... we got only one. The kitchen didn't screw up. Only one was requested. We asked for EVERY dish to be mild....and specifically said without heat, spice, fire, whatever you want to call it....... but what did we get? All dishes were HOT. They were so hot that we didn't even come close to finishing it, and we were not that full. To say the least, we wanted no part of bringing the leftovers home. Normally, we look forward to Indian food leftovers more than eating it initially. However, food that already has heat/spice in it will reheat to even spicier flavors. Didn't want it. We were pissed too because we could tell the actual Indian spices, flavors and textures were right on point....... but just too darn spicy for us. The owner was so frazzled trying to do too many things at once that he never asked us how we liked our food....... or we would have told him. We didn't want to tell the young man for fear that if he told the owner, he'd have screamed at the young kid, not remembering it was he who placed the order. Anyway, I know others love this place, and we sure wanted to, but with as few tables as they have, and with as crowded as it was, if they can't pay attention to what their customers want, I don't see this place staying around forever....... chain or no chain.

Maybe it's our fault for going on a Friday night but it was a disaster. 4 of us were seated next to the kitchen then summarily ignored for nearly 30 minutes before we decided to leave. It took us 15 minutes to get menus and another 10 minutes to get water before we realized they were woefully understaffed and decided to take our business elsewhere. Really a shame considering all the positive reviews.

I haven't had a lot of experience with Indian restaurants, but I LOVE this place! I always get the "Heavenly Chicken" which I think is actually called Tandoori garlic chicken, but our server always knows what I mean by "Heavenly Chicken." The na'an with chickpea hummus and the dessert na'an are wonderful! Small place, always crowded, and even getting order to go can take awhile, but it just goes to show how yummy it is. We live in San Bernardino County, but any time we are in the area, we go out of our way to drop by.

We love this place! The closest we can get to Indian food from India. A small secret spot tucked away in Camarillo

  • Tedi P.

This was my first visit and I left satisfied and with enough to take home. I met 2 friends for lunch so, we were able to sample three items. The Saag Panneer was smooth and flavorful. The Lamb Bombay was tender with a tomato and chili sauce. The chicken tikka moist. All were served in individual copper pots, Basmati rice, a salad and the side of the day. That day it happened to be vegetarian curry with a kick! They had the biggest pieces of naan! They were like small surfboards cut in half. Hot and fluffy, too. I look forward to going back and trying everything on their menu! Tip: go early. The place is small but, people were waiting an hour for a fine Indian meal!

  • David G.

Worst service I've had at a restaurant in YEARS Wait staff was both incompetent and unorganized. They kept bumping into our table while still managing to ignore us. I had to wave my arms on 4 separate occasions for someone to get water, get the rest of our order, get plates to eat the food on, and get the bill. One server nearly dropped our plates on us trying to collect them. While polite this was a new low for service and I eat out far too often. The food was good. We got a curry and a tandoori dish. Curry was great, the other... Okay. Naan was good as well. They were expensive though for what you get. So if you feel like slightly overpaying for decent Indian food, please PLEASE order take out.

I happened upon this area lately. I have been there twice already for lunch. The lunch specials are superb, especially the vegetarian varieties. Lunch specials include nan bread, a number of rice dips along with the main dish.

Excellent indian food. The place is bit small so wait time can be longer but loved everything about it.

  • Ashley B.

Great food but truly the worst service in camarillo. There was 8 of us and the owner said it would be a 20 minute wait, even though there was two 4-person tables and one 2-person table empty. There were multiple 4-person tables being used for only two people. The owner would not move around tables to seat all of us. Finally after 40 minutes of waiting (outside) I asked how much longer it would be, he said as soon as there's tables open. At this point there were 3 4-person tables available. I pointed out the empty tables he could move around and he just walked away from me. So we all left. Not once did he apologize, or offer us water or anything. I'm sad because the food is so good but I don't think I will ever go back. Especially since it was the owner that did this to us.

Curry Leaf is a hidden gem in Ventura County (as so many other reviewers have stated). Definitely ranks in my top three restaurants in Camarillo. It's small in size so it can pack out during peak hours. I usually get my food to go. The food is absolutely incredible. So much flavor! My favorite dishes are the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan bread, saffron rice and the chicken 65. I highly recommend his place if you live anywhere in the area. Worth the drive if you don't.

It is pretty easy to overlook this Camarillo HIDDEN GEM!!! But, if you enjoy the Asian Indian cuisine, The Curry Leaf is a must try! Just gotta get over the fact that it's in THE BOONIES, away from anything that will attract you to Camarillo (or Ventura County)!!! WAY out in the hills, near the Camarillo High School if you're in the know, or closest to the 101fwy off Santa Rosa Rd./Pleasant Valley Rd. exit. It is certainly in a small location, but DEFINITELY NOT chintzy on deliciousness! Simple in its decor, it's hard to tell this is an Indian restaurant other than what its storefront sign indicates. No crowds to contend with when we sat down promptly on a Wednesday early afternoon. We sampled a few of the lunch menu items... *CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA: This was PERFECT! Absolutely how I WANT IT!!! Creamy, thick, flavorful, and not soupy at all, with tender chicken pieces. NomNomNom, best in the county! Yeah... THAT good! Sopped up every last bit with naan ;) *CHICKEN NILAGRI: New (to us) dish we sampled and our taste buds enjoyed it. Yum! A mixture of spinach, coconut milk, mint sauce & green curry along with, again, tender chicken pieces. Pretty spicy for Wifey, yet, only minimally spicy for me. Could easily order this again. *LASOONI (GARLIC) KEBAB: Tasty chicken kebab that was moist, tender, AND flavorful. A good quantity was served. No kids options here, but this was a non spicy option that Mini-Me enjoyed. *GARLIC NAAN: Regular naan comes with meal but there's no way I'm passing up a garlic option, even if there's a minimal extra charge! Naan is served in big pieces and didn't have to ask for an extra order. And, yes, the garlic naan accented the meal wonderfully. All lunch menu items are served with naan, salad, basmati rice, and vegetable curry. Service was attentive and personable. Juan was the primary server and dude was one cool bloke. Sandi, the owner, was his welcoming and personable self, as usual. Didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive nice and hot. We left comfortably full, within an hour after arriving. No hating here, this was a GREAT experience! Looking to sample Asian Indian cuisine? This is an EASY recommendation ;)

The Curry Leaf is my go-to Indian joint in Camarillo. I've had some instances where my samosas were overcooked or it took longer than normal to serve the food/drinks. Those are the only things preventing me from giving them five stars. Everything I've tried has been wonderful: the butter chicken, chicken tikka, vegetable samosas, meat samosas, garlic cauliflower, chilli chicken/paneer, tandoori chicken, naan, chana masala, aloo gobi... seriously, it's all so good. I love it.

Finally tried this place after eyeing it for the past few years and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed every single dish we tried, from the garlic cauliflower and veggie samosa appetizers, to the chicken tikka masala, Bombay chicken, vegetable biryani and naan. The service was also fabulous. Very nice and attentive. We will definitely be back again.

Curry Leaf is an excellent indian restaurant that reminds me of some of the food I would have sometimes growing up. Being half East Indian; my family's food wasn't this good. We like many of the dishes but some of the gems are the cauliflower appetizer, chicken Bombay, chicken vindaloo, lamb vindaloo, and the old staple - chicken tikki masala. The restaurant does a strong take out business and can get busy at lunches and weekend evenings. We went one of the first nights they opened a few years ago, and our order for take out took over an hour. I wasn't in any real hurry that night and it was fun to just watch the place. The owner gave it to us on the house, was very apologetic, and said the next time it would be free. We came back a few months later, he remembered the entire order, and he gave it to us for free - which was very thoughtful. Sometimes the kitchen can get backed up. If you are in a rush for hurry curry; this isn't the place. Also - the naan and garlic naan bread for me is addictive. The stuff is awesome. Enjoy it and just don't be in a rush.

Sandy is the best host ever! He is a one stop shop here. He is the greeter, host, waiter, busser, everything! The food is just as stellar. This was my first experience trying any Indian food, and I was so surprised when I fell in love. The Garlic Cauliflower is so yummy, and our table we usually argue about whether we are having chicken tikka masala or the butter chicken. But we usually leave it to Sandy to pick out the naan (garlic, cheese, whatever its all good). Small restaurant, but so fun for two, four or a group of people. I'm here at least once a week.

Probably the best indian food I have ever had. The owner is friendly and the restaurant is clean. The garlic cauliflower, tikka Masala, and butter chicken are out of this world. This is definently a place to go if your time in Camarillo is limited and you want a great place to eat!

The BEST Indian food in Camarillo. Very clean, great menu and friendly owner. Prices are fair for the area. You may have to wait a little for the food but TOTALLY WORTH IT!

  • Jessica M.

The Chicken Vindaloo is amazing! I was taken here as my first (proper) Indian food experience and I was definitely not disappointed. The portions are generous and packed with flavor! I love a spicy dish and this did not disappoint! I mean.. that's kind what Indian food is known for. Granted the restaurant is a little small, but I was totally diggin' the 'mom-n-pop' feel to the place. It has a family ran and owned look & feel about the place. The focus is on making delicious Indian food. I've been to a fancy-schmancy pick-your-own-dish Indian place before and the food was awful enough to make me almost never want to try Indian cuisine again. I'm glad to have found this place so close to home. They will be seeing me again most definitely!

This place is fantastic! Such great food. Their food tastes just like my mom's cooking. I ordered the chana masala (vegetarian) and chicken tikka. I also ordered the garlic naan bread and vegetable samosas. The portions are perfect and the taste is excellent! If you're in the mood for Indian food, you must go to this place.

This restaurant is the place to go in the area. I was working in the area for three months and after this restaurant was recommended by a coworker, my boyfriend and I ate there once a week until we left. The garlic cauliflower is a must try. I've never had anything like it. My other favorite dish is the chicken tikka masala. The owner takes orders and if you ask, he will recommend a dish. When we asked, he had the dish that he thought we'd like written down before he could even say it. Such a great place. Definitely a must try! I guarantee you'll keep going back.

Food was great! I consider myself an Indian food snob but this place did not disappoint! Sandy (the owner) brought me a great IPA while I was deciding! I had the lamb vindaloo, I ordered it spicy and it was amazing. Hot but tasty. Asked for some hot sauce and the owner brought me the secret sauce! If u like spicy try it, but be careful a little goes a long way! Amazing food, naan was fresh and soft. So good! Highly recommend!

The Curry Leaf is the best Indian restaurant food I've had!!! It is so fresh and is amazing. There's a lot of Indian places that taste like everything is frozen and their food does NOT taste frozen. It tastes like it's cooked to order it tastes so fresh. I love their naan and saag, also, Chicken Tandoori to die for. Please try them out of you love Indian cuisine!

The first time I walked into this place, I wasn't impressed with the look of it. It's very small and not much decor but the smell of the food blew my mind! And the flavor is even better. He has a great vegetarian menu which included Malai Kofta and 5/5 Cauliflower is extremely delicious! We are fans of spicy food. They are not afraid of spice so, if you are not into spicy, you have to make that clear. No one at our table is afraid and went right for the burning bullet nan (with ghost pepper). SOOOOO GOOD! Even if you are not a vegetarian, you should really try there vege entree's. You won't miss a thing! What most people don't know about this place is that a lot of the dishes served at the Curry Leaf has a British influence. I have had dinner at the Curry Leaf with friends from Britain and they were extremely impressed and grateful that there was a local place with some of the dishes they miss. Great work Curry Leaf! Really some of the best food in town.

Excellent. Very small restaurant, but the food is a big hit. Best Indian food in Camarillo. Service is very friendly, food is full of flavor, and very reasonably priced. Favorites are the Chicken 65, all types of naan, and the cauliflower dish. Hidden gem for sure. Hint: Expect a wait, especially for dinner.

The best Indian food I've ever had. Really. Better than LA, San Francisco, even London. Sandy is the perfect host! I've never had a bad dish, but the cauliflower and the Salmon Tika Masala are divine.

Granted, the food is delicious. But even if they served liquid gold, it would not be worth the Curry Leaf's absurd lack of service. Especially given their rather steep prices. We placed a take-out order tonight and were told it would be ready in 35 minutes. Which turned out to be patently untrue. We were made to wait for more than an hour after arriving to pick up the food. That's right: we stood around inside the restaurant for over an hour, all the while being told that the order was "almost ready". In total, it took almost TWO HOURS from placing the order to getting our dinner. What restaurant in their right mind makes a hungry patron wait that long? That kind of wait is completely unacceptable under any circumstances. Even worse, the staff seemed supremely unconcerned with the delay. Any other business would have apologized profusely, given a discount, SOMETHING. Not the Curry Leaf. NEVER AGAIN.

So my fiancé and I came here for our very rare lunch date. I was kind of skeptical because I'm not a huge fan of Indian food but he loves the stuff. We walk in and were right away greeted. I have no idea what to order! Idk much about Indian and I don't like curry (and I'm at a place called the curry leaf, go figure right?) but the waiter was so helpful. He recommended this chicken kebab which was amazing! My fiancé got the chicken masala which pairs amazingly with our garlic naan! The manager greeted us as well an was so kind and very outgoing. I enjoyed every part of my meal and the service! We'll definitely be back :)

I've been coming here for 6 or 7 years. The customer service is always so welcoming and warm. The Naan is warm and fresh & my favorites are chicken korma and lamb bombay. I think this place is like coming home-whenever you come back you always remember why you like it so much: the food is fantastic and the personality of the owner makes you feel like you're seeing an old friend. A definite 5 stars.

Love this place! Staff is super nice and food is delicious! The tandoori chicken and curries are fantastic. Definitely try the butter and garlic naans.

Owner treats employees very unprofessional and rude. The employee, busting his a**, while the owner insisted on micromanaging every move, and cursing the worker out. The food lives up to the hype, but I refuse to support a place that treats their employees this way. " you can find a better place to work for!"

The food is amazing and then everything goes down from there. The wait to order is always in excess of 10 minutes. Then it will take 20 minutes to the deliver the food. When you want your check or extras - more drink, nan, etc. expect to wait another 10-20 minutes. My opinion is order take out only - call ahead! Picking up your order will also take about 20 minutes. Your food is hot, ready, and ... Waiting :(. Also, turn on the AC!

The Hidden gem from the valley! This restaurant reminds me of an LA restaurant! Where should i start?? forsure order the CAULIFLOWER (5/5) DRUMSTICKS (5/5) naan bread is great but spicy! 4/5 curry - great texture and flavors 4/5

We were planning to have an extended family dinner, about 29 persons at Curry Leaf as we had heard that their Indian food was very good. My wife and I decided to check the restaurant out as we had seen some negative reviews on yelp about the 'service' aspects of the restaurant. We arrived at 845pm on a week day night. As the posted closing time was 930pm, we figured we would be able to evaluate the food and service with hopefully not much stress on the staff. We were told that it was too late for us to have dinner but can wait to take a take-out. Funny, it was OK for the restaurant to have customers waiting, but not OK for them to sit and eat their dinner. If the restaurant can not seat customers after 845pm, that should be the closing time posted, not 930pm. Thank you yelp reviewers for CONFIRMING the 'service' aspects of this restaurant. We will never come back to see how good the food is....zero stars.

This place is absolutely amazing. If you aren't adventurous with food this an establishment that you need to go to and escape your comfort zone with food. Everything thing here is amazing. The wait can be long but well worth the wait. The owner treats his regulars like family and is very approachable and nice. Come early if you come here or order out. A ++++

Chicken tikka masala & garlic cauliflower are great!! If you order to go or even call ahead be prepared to wait. I've usually waited at least 20-40 min longer than expected. Other than that I love this place, the owner is really friendly and always has great recommendations if you aren't sure what to order

I've been here once for dinner and once for lunch. Both times the restaurant was at least 70% full. I'm no Indian food expert and can't handle really spicy food, but everything I've had here was good. The Lunch time specials are actually reasonable for the amount of food you get.

The food is fresh and well prepared. Service is good, and the owner is a friendly man who goes around the tables ensuring everyone is pleased. It's one of those places that makes me want to go back again and again.

This place has Americanized Indian food. Period. Please the demographics. Can't really complain about that. Service is bad and the owner has regular customers that he tries to please. The rest can goto hell.

Poor service I have ever received in my life. The owner or waiter I am not sure, have to learn to be polite to customers. He brought a wrong item and was not happy saying that I ordered wrongly. And he was rude after that.

This is the best food in Camarillo. Go in enjoy all that the kitchen has to offer. If you are in a hurry or need to me catered to this is not the place. Order food enjoy conversation and wait for a great dinner. If you don't know what to order just tell Sandi what you like and he will make it happen. ENJOY!

This place always smells so good, on my way into Vons. Since we aren't experts on Indian food, the waiters are always so helpful and patient with all our questions. I don't have a favorite dish yet, because everything I've tasted there has been wonderful.

The first advice i would give is DON'T come here if you're already hungry. Why? Only one person taking orders and serving the food. You come in no one greets you or seats you. The lay out of the tables were really crowded. The dishes and utensils were pretty dirty, made me question if i should stay. As soon as you pick out what you want, you're going to be waiting some time to get that order in. There was a period while we waited if we should just leave but then realize we already got drinks? Sandy the waiter, the ONLY waiter, and owner i believe gets the order but doesnt bother to apologize for the wait. I order the lamb vindaloo and naan cheese. Of course the wait time is ridiculous...cuz like I've explained there was only ONE waiter for the whole restaurant during dinner time. My vindaloo comes and at this point im starving! However i still have to wait for my Naan?! Long story short, "ok" food..HORRIBLE dining experience. Good luck getting served at this place.

Seriously yelpers? I don't see why this place has such high ratings. My boss and I came here for dinner recently, and when we got there the place was fairly empty so we got seated right away. There was one guy taking care of everyone in the front, and you could tell he was a bit frazzled. Sweat dripping from his face, he did not look like a very happy camper. Their beverage menu said "beer and wine also available" and I asked what wines he has, and he just asked if I wanted red or white. Call me a snob but that just does not fly with me. I just wound up sticking with water. When we ordered, we just decided to order appetizers and entrees together. We got the garlic cauliflower and some deep fried veggie dish (sorry, don't recall the name). For the entrees we got Chicken Saag and then Dal. Server then proceeded to go off and help other people. When the appetizers were brought out, we were surprised. The deep fried veggie dish was HUGE. Could have fed like 8 people. As a guest in a restaurant, I think it's the server's responsibility to let the customers know if they ordered too much food, or at least he should have let us know that it was a large portion, rather than keeping quiet and letting us order enough food to feed a small village. Anyway, it was ok, I think it was quite bland. The garlic cauliflower was good, but it was not what I expected. It was very Chinese tasting with some kind of red sauce. The time between appetizers and entrees was very long. When it finally came around, it was okay. The dal did not appease me. The Chicken Saag I admit was very delicious. It was the highlight of the dinner for me. Unfortunately my boss is vegetarian and didn't get to have any. Ten minutes after the entrees arrived at the table, the server came out with the white rice we had ordered. That was just a no-no for me. I've already eaten the dish without rice, and now that I'm full you are bringing me rice? Really? I also forgot to mention that we had ordered another appetizer, but he never brought it to us. We didn't bring it up because we were so full and had too much food anyway, but I think it's an important thing to bring up in a restaurant review. We waited a while for the server to bring us our check, he was busy helping all the other people in the restaurant. When he did bring us the check and my boss put his credit card down, the server grabbed the tray and dropped the credit card on the floor and didn't notice until we pointed it out to him. Meanwhile there are several parties waiting to be seated, but they are standing outside because there is no room in the restaurant. Just staring at us eating through the window. Would I stand outside for 45 minutes to eat here? Definitely not. Would I eat here if I didn't have to wait for a table? Probably not.

Would not recommend. Small place, 10 tables total. Ordered the butter chicken for 13 bucks but had to order rice separately. Naan is also extra. So that's 20 bucks total. Chicken was plain, overcooked and chopped into slices so thin that it just didn't make sense. Services was okay. The sauce was flavorful but average. Unfortunately, your options are limited in Camarillo so the tables fill up quickly.

This place is a real treat. We have been looking for good Indian food since we moved to SoCal and we looked to have finally found the spot. Really friendly staff and a great relaxed atmosphere. The food is amazing, that Peshwari nan is one of the best I have ever had. Couldn't recommend highly enough- a real hidden gem.

  • Catherine B.

I give the food 5 stars, the service and location gets 3 stars (really 2, but the food is so yummy!). I wish that the owner would move to a larger location. It's so small inside, you get bumped by other diners if you choose to eat inside and it's the weekend. My husband always wants to order take-out from here, but the service is horrible because they are so small but so busy! The employees and owner are very friendly and give great food recommendations. I wish that they'd move to a larger location, we'd eat here at least monthly if not more if the seating was comfortable. The poor server is always slammed, and doing his best, but you have to wait way too long for your order on a Friday or Saturday night.

Man, what can I say about this restaurant that doesn't sound like pure hyperbole? This is the best Indian food in ventura county, and possibly the state of CA. You will not be disappointed. The owner is super friendly and gives great recommendations. Start with the garlic cauliflower for sure! Great service and food. Cheers!

Love this place. The veggie korma is excellent and the spicy cauliflower is worth the wait. But go at 11:30 so you don't have to wait! Sometimes I get owner to surprise me, and I've never been let down.

Never fails, always delish!! The wait is worth it. They no longer have my favorite Rogan Josh but the Kasmiri is just as good. Compliments to the Chef(s)!

This is a very small, intimate restaurant and great for a date. It is not so great when others bring in huge parties during the lunch rush and act irate that they can't be accommodated immediately. If you are going to patronize a small, excellent, local business I think you need to exercise a little patience! I've loved every dish I have tried, but the Rogan Josh is my favorite. Sometimes I order the naan to go just to have a yummy snack.

I'm a big fan of all kinds of food, but my favorite has got to me ethnic and authentic Indian food. Out of all the places that I've tried indian food around Ventura County, The Curry Leaf is the best one. It's a small restaurant in a strip mall, so it's easy to miss, but because it's so small and kind of (in a way) hidden, it makes it so much more of a local gem. The forget the name of the owner, but he always manages to acknowledge all of his guests and is out on the floor himself, taking orders. There's nothing better than to see pride in ownership. And I love that he gets to know his guests! My beau and I come here every so often, and he always recognizes us. Very sweet. I feel bad for all the yelpers who have experienced something negative with this restaurant. I'd suggest to try and give it another chance, and try to be more patient as this place is short-staffed. The food is outstanding. Some of my favorites include: Appetizer: - Garlic cauliflower. Everything my beau and I come here, we can't get enough of this flavorful, and tasty dish. It's marinated with the spices that make indian food.. well, indian. - Garlic Naan: a staple in most indian food lovers, this naan has the perfect balance of garlic, spice and what I love about it the most is that the naan itself is light, and not very heavy. Entrees: - All the different curries (unfortunately, I can't name all of them because I can't remember all the ones I've tried!), I love the fact that the curries are arranged in a way that people can order it according to their spice liking. Again, a burst of flavor in these curries, so be ready for a party in your mouth. I would have given it 5 stars, except for the fact that it can get busy quick! And since it's such a small business, there's limited seating. My advice, go before the dinner rush at around 5.

  • Pia D.

My family and I always order this to go. And while the butter chicken (my order) and dhunya (seriously misspelled my apologies) chicken (parents' order) are great, the level of spicy ness really varies each time. Also the naan is usually pretty stale-ish tasting not as fluffy as I would like but still yummy. Overall it's still good and we keep ordering.

This business is small, so if you're going on an evening during dinner time, please be prepared to stand outside. This isn't a deal-breaker. The service is excellent and friendly. The food is good. But if you "know' Indian food, it is average to slightly above average.

    (3)
  • Darby C.

The food at curry leaf was good but not great. A little over valued for what you get in my opinion. The restaurant itself is typical strip mall dining which is so prevalent in this area. The space is fairly small so waiting for a table can be expected on busy nights and weekends. I enjoyed the food but I think I sill like Cafè India better. Just a preference.

We went for dinner at around 7 on a Saturday night. There were a couple of issues for us. 1. It took more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive at the table (we did not order any tandoori items that as you to allow "10-15 minutes") 2. We also ordered the "hot bullet naan" for my girlfriend who loves spicy food, which is listed as having habaneros and ghost pepper powder and another order of garlic naan for myself, who cannot handle that spice (I'm ashamed). The hot bullet naan came out with our food, but then the garlic naan never came until we asked for it around 5 minutes later. Also, we're pretty certain there was no ghost pepper powder, and the naan was not very spicy (though it did have small peices of habanero scattered over it). 3. The restaurant is very small and there was a lot (I counted at least 5 at one point) groups of people in various stages of ordering and picking up take-out food standing right by our table. The milling around of various groups people in their Saturday sweatpants and t-shirt finest does not contribute to the ambiance of a restaurant in any positive way (although I'm not sure how they can fix that). Overall, I thought the food was good 4/5, but the service was very bad 2/, a 30+ minute way for food is just unacceptable- this is probably not the fault of the servers as much as a back of the house issue - the waiters are always very attentive. I really don't think we'll be back due to these issues, which is a real disappointment, because we love the food.

There are a number of reasons why I love the hell out of this place. 1. The owner is a classy guy, always friendly with us and makes sure we get amazing service. 2. The food is absolutely amazing. There's never a dish we've tried we didn't enjoy. The nan is well-prepared, appetizer and entree portions generous. And each bite is full of incredible flavor that references it's traditional cuisine while fusing it with exciting variances. Also they have no problem customizing orders (ask for the spicy chicken tikka). 3. The Chicken 65 is the most amazing thing I've ever tried. This is the reason I come on a continual basis. Folks that complain about long waits or whatnot. There's a reason for that. I suggest you come early for lunch, prepare for some wait at dinner and just enjoy the culinary ride.

Was fiending for some good Indian food and with so many reviews recommending this place, we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately, when I called in to place an order for takeout, it went to a voice mail that was full. Now, there is some quality customer service. I want to give you my money and you cannot pick up the phone. Cafe India it is!

Delicious! Small restaurant with limited seating. Very crowded during lunch hours. Take-out is not the fastest, however the customer service is great. Allow 30 mins for pick up. Food is excellent one of the best restaurants in town if not the best. Vegan recommendations: -Veggie Mulligatawny Soup -Dal -Dal Palak -Poppadoms -Roasted Cauliflower

Love their food, very authentic, fresh, good portions at good prices! I always order the Garlic Caulliflower, the Malagatwany Soup(vegetarian) and the Eggplant&Peas dish(i cannot remeber the name). The caulliflower is out of this world...MMMMM...and the spiced soup can beat up a cold or a flu, right on a spot! I always want to try something new,but for some reason I love my basics so much :) I see pretty nasty comments left by others for this wonderful place and it just makes me sad! It's so hard to make a living nowadays pleasing the crowds! People forgets to be patience, understanding and compassionate;they think if they have some spare change to buy a meal out they can own the business and the working staff. Sad and scary in the same time! I wish more NICE customers for Curry Leaf, they deserve a better karma ,they do a great job and they work so hard(like everybody else in the services).

The food is amazing here! I always get the chicken 69, spicy garlic cauliflower or spicy eggplant. Rice peas and naan are just awesome! My friends and I meet here a lot to chat. The place is pretty small, which is why I gave it the 4 stars instead of 5. I wish they would expand. Good service! It seems to be always the same guy that takes the orders, at least, all the times that I've been there, which is during lunch. Very nice guy, really polite. If you plan to meet here for lunch or dinner, come early!!!! The place gets packed !! You can also order food to go and enjoy very yummy Indian food at home.

My recent experience at the Curry Leaf was excellent. The restaurant is small but the dim lighting made for a lovely atmosphere. Here is what we ordered: - Garlic naan: I don't have naan often enough to have a real opinion to compare with however it was soft and the flavor was not over powering so it went well with our dishes that were PACKED with flavor. - Butter Chicken: creamy and flavorful! The sauce was so good that I couldn't help pouring more over the basmati rice to keep tasting more even after the chicken was gone. - Lamb Nilagri: We were craving lamb and though the cilantro-ish sauce on this was REALLY good, it probably would have been better with chicken as we were not really able to taste the lamb anyway. I don't mean that to sound as if it wasn't delicious because it was. I would just recommend another sauce if you really want to taste the lamb. I would have been perfectly fine to have this with chicken or shrimp. - Garlic Cauliflower: Wow! So much more than you'd expect from the description. You can see from the photos. It's AWESOME. Just order it. Trust me. I do want to mention that the best part of this restaurant was the service. Our waiter was extremely attentive and very friendly without being annoying or seeming fake - you know how that goes sometimes? He was pleasant enough and gave great suggestions but didn't hover so much that we felt like he wanted to join in our dinner. All in all - highly recommended. Go!

Being a British guy living in the states the thing I miss the most is my Indian food. And when I say my Indian food I mean the British influenced Indian food that you'll find all over Britain, the chicken tikka masala being the classic Indian invented in Britain disk. You just don't find it the same over here. Many places have the same dishes on the menu but they aren't made right, often being too buttery or creamy to be any good. This place was a revelation. It's run by a guy who is clearly of Indian descent and yet equally clearly an ex-Brit. He knows exactly what I'm looking for and makes it. The food is delicious in particular the naan is fantastically fluffy, just what you want for mopping up curry sauces. I can't wait to go back again.

This place is the best Indian food around here, I have been to almost all the Indian food places around. Unless you want to drive up to the Valley nothing comes close to this place. I wish this place is little bit more spacious, weekdays it's hard to get a table during lunch hour, but still it's worth the wait !!!

So we came here because it was around Camarillo Premium Outlets and we didn't want to eat inside the food courts..and I must say it was a good decision! The owner of the place is VERY nice and friendly. In fact, he even gave us a special dish for free, which was deep fried cauliflowers (I don't know what the name of the dish is) just because we were first timers at the restaurant. I think he's middle eastern, but he has blue-ish grey eyes. It's something worth checking out! Or it may be color contacts..hmm. We ordered Lamb Curry, Chicken Ticka Masala, and this Shrimp curry with a coconut base along with the basic naan, cheese naan, and saffron rice. The naan is smaller than the ones I've had in the past..So that was sort of a disappointment. But the taste of the curries were great! It may be because we went in at 11:30, when the place opens for lunch, but the service wasn't SUPER fast or anything. So we needed to wait for some time. But the taste of the food won't disappoint you! My only wish is for the naan to be bigger.

Lost our reservation which was made in person. Took 45 minutes to get a table. Portions are small. Three pieces of cheese in the Saag Paneer. Four pieces of chicken in the Chicken Marsala. Had to ask for water refills. I have no idea why this place is so popular. The food was okay but not worth the wait or the expense. Cafe India on Daily in Camarillo has much better service and food without any wait. And Bollywood in Westlake has a dinner for two for under $40 that feeds four. Won't go back.

I live just around the corner, and love Indian food. I was very excited to try this place after the ratings it received - and was very dissapointed. The bus boy was great at getting drinks and taking our order right away. I ordered Samosas for an appetizer, Chicken Tikka Masala and Safron rice. I waited over 30 minutes and never got a refill on my drink or my appetizer. I watched 3 tables that came in AFTER me, all get served before I did. After another party of 6 people was served their appetizer and I was not - that was it. I walked out. As I walked out, I saw another table get served thier appetizer - once again, they arrived AFTER. I will not return to Curry Leaf again unfortunatley. Service is paramount when owning a business. No matter how good the food is, I need to know that my business is valued.

Great food. Definitely worth the wait. Only reason for knocking it was our waiter was really distracted and messed up our order twice, then told us he would comp us one of the plates and instead overcharged us... I didn't say anything. They were too crowded to care. Eh.. If in the the area again I'll stop by again for sure.

I discovered this quaint place shortly after they opened as I lived across the street and would visit frequently. The food is delicious compared to Café India in Camarillo. It tastes fresh and flavorful and doesn't leave me feeling like a stuffed pig. The owner is often there and is very nice and helpful when it comes to food suggestions. One night I came in with my husband and a group of our guy friends after happy hour at JJ Brewski's. We enjoyed many different entrees, good Indian beer and the owner gave me a dollar folded into a heart. We've returned on a few different occasions and sometimes the service can be a little slow depending on how busy they are but food is always consistently yummy.

Holy Geez. I was not a fan of Indian food but when a friend dragged me here, I changed my tune. Now, we go once a month. My favorite is the paneer tikka masala. It is so flavorful and has just the right amount of heat. The place tends to be pretty busy and the service can sometimes be a little slow but the food is worth it. They are closed in the late afternoon between lunch and dinner service so make sure you plan ahead.

The food here is *magical* and the chicken biryani rice dish here is my all-time favorite food in the world. so so good. I've had at least half of the menu here over the last 3+ years and i've never once been disappointed. I dine in and also take out here. Take out is pretty fast and never over 20 minutes (so after the phone call, i wait 10 minutes, then drive over and it's always ready). The owner, Sandy, who usually serves us, is a very nice guy and is very confident that all of the food here is the best thing you've ever eaten - and you know, he is right! Be sure to ask him questions like "what do you recommend?" and "what's the best thing on the menu?" - you'll love the answers you get haha....

We went for the first time on a Friday and reserved a table for 5 (4 adults and a 5 year old). The table was ready when we arrived on time. Sandi - the owner was pretty entertaining and made some good recommendations. The curried cauliflower was amazing as a starter. I have eaten great indian food in the UK and in the US and this ranks among the best I have experienced. Okay the servers were a little disorganized and we had to wait for some dishes a little longer than expected but the food quality more than made up for it!! Go and give it a try - just book a table in advance. Oh and If you need to use the bathroom, watch your step as you navigate through the kitchen to find it. Very cramped and slippery!!

Food is always excellent, but service is a little on the slow side. Owner is a super friendly gentleman and is super helpful with food recommendations. If eating at this establishment make sure you go early because it gets crowded quickly. I think it is one of the tastest places to dine in Camarillo!

Food is always excellent. Lamb/chicken Korma, tikka masala, dhaniya are my favorites. The food is very authentic, even my Indian friends said so. Sandy, the owner is always friendly, and remember the regular patrons. Come early & beat the lunch crowd!

Stars are for food. Service and atmosphere are totally lacking. The food is awesome. I would probably order Togo. The service is crazy slow and a bit annoying. The wine list is nonexistent, with 4 of the 6 wines not available. We had the garlic cauliflower and its amazing. The chicken tikka and tandoori was fabulous. The korma was mediocre. The chai tea was very good and not sweet which I like.

This was only my 2nd foray into Indian food, and it was life changing. From the welcome at the door to the pallet seducing food this was an amazing experience. I would love to tell you what i ate, but we just asked the owner to bring us whatever he though was best. I recall a spicy cauliflower, some salmon and there was so much more. I could not find one flaw in the entire meal. I am ashamed of myself for having passed this place by so many times. I will never make that mistake again. This place is a hidden jewel in Camarillo and even more so in Mission Oaks.

The Curry Leaf has got to be the best Indian curry that I've ever had!! It is that good, trust me. To start off the meal, we tried one of their stuffed naan with cherries and walnuts (first time going away from the standard naan option). It's very different from the standard naan as it has more ingredients and substance. Very tasty and a nice change of pace for your naan appetizer. We had two of their curries (one with chicken and one with beef) and the sauces for both were just so flavorful. Not that kind of watered down curry that you get at many low cost Indian restaurants but you can really taste the spices here. The beef curry had a darker sauce to it and I felt the beef meat was amazingly tender compared to the chicken. They were both great, as the curry sauce can make any meat tasty, but the beef curry takes the cake. Extremely nice people work here, they genuinely want you to have a good time and really enjoy their food. The manager highly emphasized that I have to "get the lamb chops when I come back." I would have totally took his recommendation but unfortunately, we only decided to stay in Camarillo for one night. At least we picked a big winner in The Curry Leaf.

Came in for a lunch with a friend on a rainy Sunday afternoon. She had a late breakfast, so she just had a mango lassi. On the otherhand, I was starving so I ordered the karikuda curry chicken, rice, and garlic naan. The curry was nice, good amount of spice, and the chicken was tender. The naan was fine. It's not really that much food. I forced myself to eat a bit less so I could take some home, but probably it's only enough for 1 person. Overall the food was fine, and the people were nice, but the portions aren't that big and it is is bit expensive since they charge for rice--who orders a curry dish without rice?! Probably won't be back.

I would give the food 4 stars- its not bad at all- definitely tasty but be aware the portions are small for the price! I would give a 2 for the service because it is extremely slow and takes forever (it is mainly because they are always busy and there are only a couple of servers). If you are in a hurry, this is not the place to dine.

The Curry Leaf is excellent! We received good service both times we have been here, even with larger groups. I loved the garlic naan, spicy garlic cauliflower, Indian French fries, and the butter chicken. We will definitely be back!

Well...going in I thought for sure I'd walk out with a 4-5 star review on hand (the aroma outside was incredible) and I do see the appeal but based on my one experience: No, not so amazing. Veggie samosas a definite disappointment taste and size wise and on top of that, at twice the price compared to other Indian eateries. With my lunch combo, one dish was hot and the other almost cold - as if the timing in the kitchen was off - the rice was unimpressive - raita not included and an extra buck for garlic on the naan which had no crispness to it whatsoever. Likely the best Indian in the local neighborhood but if you ask me, cannot compare to the likes of Punjabi Tandoor and more.

Best Indian food in Ventura County hands down! Chicken Tikka Masala was top notch. Only down side is that they charge you for rice with your meal. It's worth it though!

Two of us went for dinner on Tuesday evening around 7:00pm and the place was pretty full. We have traveled a lot and know good food when we find it! This place was incredibly delicious. We started with the garlic shrimp as an appetizer. We tried the Chicken Tikka which was moist and tender and flavorful. We also had the most delicious Tikka Masala with chicken and we asked for it spicy....it was soooo good! Their spicy isn't hot and spicy, just wonderful flavors, we will definitely return to try other dishes, but I will be getting the Tikka Masala again! We also had the garlic naan and washed it all down with an Indian beer. The service was great and they were very helpful with suggestions. They mentioned they have a great deal at lunch time. So we will have to check that out too. Please go and try this restaurant!

Best Indian food restaurant I have been to in all my travels across the US... The biriyani is spiced just right... I'm very happy to be staying nearby this wonderful restaurant.. Made to order goes !!!! The don't have a buffet , but that usually brings down quality , so no complaints there. Rice may be a la carte sometimes when you order the curries but other than that everything seems just perfect here !!

The positives - Very tasty food, friendly service, good variety on the menu with some unique items which you don't get in most Indian restaurants The negative - Very small portions Gets a high four!

The dinner was kind of pricey, but the food was pretty good. The owner and wait staff were friendly. The garlic cauliflower was delicious. All the curries are good as well, along with the chicken tikka masala. The garlic naan is good too! For a much better deal than dinner, however, go there for lunch.

Forget the whole indian food thing, This is just great food period!!! All of the food is prepared very gourmet, presentation of food is nice, and prices are reasonable in relation to the service and quality of food and atmosphere. This is definitely a culinary chef who opened an Indian restaurant, opposed to an indian family who opened one. Oh yeah,,., Get the garlic cauliflower. I also enjoy the Aloo gobi

Experience: For dinner, we (my gf and I) waited 20 minutes without service, in the cold [because they sat us near the door], and the only thing we received was the cold shoulder to go with the waters that they gave us when we first sat down. We didn't even get eye-contact. I don't even think they noticed when we walked out. Very unprofessional. The only reason I even care to want to give this place another try is the fact that the food smells really good. I mean, that good that if we finally do get served, then I might be able to overlook my first [bad] experience. Plus, the place was packed when we arrived. Note to self and fellow Yelpers, must give this place a fair try!

This is probably the best Indian food I've ever had. I've never had better Chicken/Goat Vindaloo. I was in the Camarillo area and we found this place on Yelp. I was a bit skeptical at first because it didn't have a buffet. I like the Indian Buffet because there's variety and not everyone wants to do family style...OK, I just want to pig out. On a Monday, we arrived to find the restaurant closed! they are always closed on Mondays. Disappointed, we ended up at Mo's Cafe at the other end of the plaza. That place just compounded the misery I was feeling, but that's another story for another time. Came here Tuesday and had the best Chicken Vindaloo ever! Spicy and full of flavor. Spicy, but it wasn't overpowering where I could taste the chicken or the sauce. Salad, soup, rice and a basket of naan come with the meal. Tons for food for less than $10. We also ordered the Saag Paneer to share. Cooked expertly. I can actually see some spinach leaves versus the cooked to a fine baby food mush texture. I also had a mango lassi...probably the thickest lassi I've ever had. Makes all other lassi drinks look like they filled the glass halfway and topped it off with ice water. This place was so good that I had to return for another meal in the same week for some more lassi and Vindaloo. Only negative for this place is that the tables are small and you feel a bit cramped. Also, the only way to the bathroom is through the entire kitchen.

This place is bomb. I think it is owned by the same people as Spice Avenue in Santa Barbara on State St. Always the same guy in there and he's cracking jokes half the time. The Garlic Cauliflower is probably the best starter. Then any entrée you order will be good. They are served in little individual pots which looks cool. Rice with peas and then lots or different flavored naan. Only had dessert once because I'm usually too full. I had this pancake ball thing. It was also good. The lady next to me said she thinks about the food all the time. It's true. Go here!!

Simply the best Indian food in Ventura County. Do yourself a favor and have the cauliflower appetizer. I could have this as my lunch and be very happy. Also, have the naan. All the different flavors are amazing but the sweet naan with the cherry paste is awesome. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Absolutely fantastic food. Ingredients are fresh and flavors take you to a state of sensory euphoria. The garlic cauliflower is an absolute must. You will rarely find a table without it! Deep fried cauliflower in a mix of spices... Truly one of the most delicious dishes we have ever tasted. The sauce on the chicken tikka masala is so amazing we could drink it! "Heavenly chicken" isn't on the menu so just ask Sandy for it, it's lovely. My mouth is watering!

I got the chicken vindaloo and my brother got the chicken masala. Both were exceedingly spicy. The heat is a gradual one, leaving one to believe the food is mild at the beginning, but at the end it gets spicy hot. All in all, this place was ok. I wouldn't comeback, just wouldn't want to deal with the heat.

I have been to too many Indian restaurants, from San Diego to Tehran, and I know this sounds completely random, but the Curry Leaf in CAMARILLO is quite possibly the BEST Indian Restaurant I have ever been to. Everything looks and tastes amazing. That being said, it is a very welcoming place for first time Indian food eaters because the food does not look intimidating at all and is presented very nicely. Not only is the food great, but the owner is just the nicest person you could ever meet. They own a couple other restaurants up in Santa Barbara. For those who want to try someplace new like the Curry Leaf, order the garlic cauliflower, which is fried cauliflower in a tangy (tamarind?) sauce. I know, cauliflower isn't for everybody, it usually has a funky smell and texture, but this is great (almost tastes like Orange Chicken). I am a regular and encourage people to come and try this place out!

Great, little curry joint . Friendly staff. Authentic and unique at the same time. The food gives homage to India. Vindaloo is spicy and delicious. Hands down the best Indian food I've had in Ventura county. Go, eat, be happy! The only reason I didn't give it five stars was you half to walk through the kitchen to get to the restroom. I always feel like I'm intruding..."sorry, sorry"

What a great place...As soon as we walked in, the owner had a Hayward beer, before we even orderd it...lol. The food and service were great! We had the cauliflower appetizer which had wonderful flavor with equally wonderful texture. We ordered the Mahi Mahi, which was very fresh and tasted soooo good. The hit of the night were the lollipop style lambchops...incredible. I ordered a lemon rice, that surprising had ginger and for a tiny bit red hot pepper for some added heat, This is a definite place we will return back to real soon

I've been to Curry Leaf several times and each time, I leave saying, "I'm never coming back here again!" But, I find myself returning...their only saving grace being that their food is pretty good - I can't give much praise for anything else other than that. This time, I think I will be sticking to my decision not to return ever again. Today - as with all the other times - the food was good, but the service was far from desirable (aka Horrible!). We typically eat here during lunch and beware, if you are going to grab lunch here to set aside AT THE VERY LEAST 1.5 hours and to have some Febreeze handy (terrible ventilation so you'll stink like greasy food the rest of the day). We arrived around 11:50am today so that we can beat the crowds that flood in around noon. We were the 2nd table of customers there and figured we'd get our food quickly. Wrong. It took the waiter (the big guy that works the front end) a while to get us our menus, then to take our order - and yes, as another Yelper mentioned, he always looks frazzled and is always sweating. He always seems so busy, when in fact, a lot of times there isn't much going on. We ordered an appetizer, that ended up never being served - turns out he never even put in the order for it - and offered no apology. 30 minutes into our wait (still with no food), the table of customers that were there before us finally got their food. We had to wait yet another 10 or so minutes to be served. By then, every seat in the restaurant was filled, with only 3 people with food in front of them - no wonder it's always packed, people are just sitting there waiting for food. Everyone ordered garlic naan - only to have a basket of naan bread come out with only two pieces of garlic naan - with the rest plain. We pointed this out, only to have the waiter just turn around and walk away without even acknowledging whether or not he heard us. 10-15 minutes later, he did bring out a basket of garlic naan... which we considered a redeeming moment (at the time). We never got our waters refilled (not good when you're eating spicy food) - and when we asked for the bill... there was yet another long wait. We each pulled out a credit card - to which the waiter told us that he's far too busy to ring up each of our cards and that one of us would have to pick up the entire bill. No good. Bad service. All-in-all, it was not a very good experience. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that we were again accompanied by a big fat fly that was buzzing around our food and table. Wouldn't be a Curry Leaf experience without the fly, bad service, a long wait for food, and the pungent smell of food on our clothes to remind us for the rest of the day how bad the experience/service was.

Excellent garlic naan, chicken tikka masala and cilantro curry, per recommendations on here. Cons: small portions. Their little metal serving buckets seemed particularly small. One peeve I have about Indian restaurants versus other Asian restaurants is that rice is not served as complimentary with the meals, when it is such an essential part of the meals. We tried to get just naan but ended up having them bring us rice later. I think these places need to bone up and provide the rice with their curry dishes. Rice is so cheap - what gives?

I'll start with "The food is great". Now that that's out of the way let's talk service. Awful. Unforgivable. Rude. Disgusting. Disrespectful. Yep. All of the above. I walked in and waited 10 minutes (my wife really wanted some sauce from there) and I didn't even get a glance. The owner walked by me four or five times and said nothing, didn't look at me, didn't say "hey, we're rally busy. Give me a sec", nothing. His server was the same way. Terrible. I will never go there again out of principle even though the food is so good. I actually called Cafe India from inside Curry Leaf, made a to go order, left Curry Leaf and drove ten minutes to Cafe India and my food was waiting for me. Cafe India's food is really good too so I was happy. If I could give Curry Leaf no stars for service I would but Yelp won't let me. And this happened a few months ago. I still haven't forgotten how awful this place made me feel.

I need Indian food, at the very least, once a month. Cafe India is usually the go-to place...and then my husband and I visited The Curry Leaf. I was a little weary because a vegetarian friend of mine had visited and left unimpressed, but we were desperate on a Sunday night at 9:00 PM with a raging hunger that could only be satisfied with Indian. While they close at 9:30, we thought we may get some attitude showing up at 9 PM ready to eat, but we were welcomed and seated promptly. Another couple came in ten minutes after us and were welcomed as well. My husband and I ordered: Garlic Naan Chicken Tikka Masala Narratan Korma Rice & Peas I have never had better Chicken Tikka Masala. It was amazing, and not just the masala sauce. The chicken itself was so flavorful and must have been seasoned before being added to the sauce. The rice & peas were also very good, but next time I may stick with just basmati rice since we usually order a vegetarian entree. WIth a shared soda, we spent $33 and change. We will definitely be back!

As a long term resident of Camarillo/Point Mugu it pains me to say that the Curry Leaf is vastly approaching Fail status. Over the recent years the quality of their fare and service has left me less than impressed. When my friend approached the manager in regards to a billing error, the manager became belligerent and quite disrespectful. The young man who waited on us was trying to correct the error and sadly to no avail. The long and short of it, Curry Leaf is failing and it is painful to watch a once great Indian restaurant fall into to Failure.

The food is good, but the prices are high, and the atmosphere is not so hot. The place is small with moveable tables, as opposed to built-in booths. It is like going into a Subway sandwich shop, but with Indian food. That is why I was surprised they charged sit-down, table cloth dinner type prices. The bill there ended up being the most I remember paying at any Indian restaurant. The time we were there one of the wait staff was visiting with some friends at the table next to us, using foul language and laughing really loud. Because the place is so small, everyone in the place seemed to be focusing on him. Of course that was a one-time experience, but it gives you an indication of the atmosphere of the place. We won't be back. Café India on Daly drive is the place to go in the area.

I really wanted to like this place, and maybe sometime in the future I'll give it another go, but my first time here was majorly meh. My boyfriend and I came in, and were greeted promptly if a bit sullenly. However it then took forever for someone to come over and ask us for our drink order, and then we had to wait again a very long time for someone else to come back and take the rest of our order. What bothered me more was the fact that while we were speaking to our waiter, he was obviously distracted and kept looking back at the kitchen, and we had to repeat ourselves a few times. The food was just okay. I had the chicken vindaloo, and my boyfriend had the chicken korma. The taste was fine, however my chicken was really on the dry side. I will say the chili naan was fantastic, however. So good. But on the downside, although we ordered rice, it never came, and we were charged for it at the end of the night. They did fix that quickly and apologized though. :) All in all, really not impressed, but I love indian food, so I might give it one more shot regardless. Anyone can have a bad night, and maybe my boyfriend and I were just unlucky.

UPDATED: Sandy must be reading yelp because the bleach smell is gone and has been gone the last four times I was there, the music has been turned down, got rid of the server who didn't understand English AND they've cleaned a significant amount of crap from the counter. 5 stars and becoming a hot spot in Camarillo. Very happy to see the place packed every time I am in the area and plan on becoming a regular. I recently started trying their lunch specials and just love it. Enough food for a good sized lunch and leftovers for dinner. Delicious. **************************************************************************************** I always love the food here. We order entrees and make the rice at home ourselves. I love the different options for Naan and that each curry can be chicken, lamb or shrimp. You always see fresh bay leaves, peppers and chunks of spice in the food, which means it's fresh and it's always delicious. Favorite are the Lamb Saag, Chicken Tikka Masala with a nice stack of garlic and basil Naan. I do wish the music was quieter and that it didn't smell like bleach all the time. That's why i don't go inside and is my only complaint about the place....the bleach smell. It can be clean without smelling of bleach. Also there always seems to be something broken and being repaired on the counter. It kinda kills any ambiance, although it does lack ambiance. For sure though, just walk by the place between 6 and 8 on a weekday (except Monday) and you will smell what I am talking about. would be a 5 star review if not for the bleach and dirty counter. Also, last time I was there, I gave the girl my name for my to-go food and she didn't understand me so she had me write it on the ticket myself.....not good. Customers shouldn't be doing that sort of stuff.

A friend took us out to this place when we got the hankerin for some Indian food. Cafe India is our usual stop when it comes to that but I figured this place was worth checking out. The spot is located within a strip mall up in Mission Oaks right by Vons. My first impression was that this place was tiny! There couldn't have been more than 10 tables in there, most of which seated no more than 4 at a time. It gets quite cramped in there too and it almost feels like you're sitting at the next table over at times. Service was good. This place I gather is a mom n pop shop so I'm thinking the person that seated us was a somewhat unwilling family member as he looked lost and didn't exactly give the warmest vibe. The older gentleman that took our order, however, was extremely nice. As for the food, I have three letters for you: O-M-G. Some of the best tikka masala I've tasted, bursting with flavor that'll make you forget about smelling Indian food on your clothes even after three washings. Sure, the place might be cramped but that's not the real big thing that bothered me though....it was the portion size. They serve everything up in these fancy ornate metal dishes but they themselves were miniscule leaving my man-pettite unsatiated. (I heard that the portions are bigger if you get it to go so I may give that one a try next time) Overall, I would definitely come back to this place. I just wish the small servings didn't match the small location.

This place opened 3 months ago in a strip mall of Camarillo. I just found out about it this week and could not wait to try it out. For the first time ever in a casual Indian Restaurant, I was impressed by the decor. It is nothing to write home about, but for once, it is airy, and the table decorations is simple but cute. We order Onion Bahjj, Chicken Tikka, Saag Paneer, An Eggplant Dish, Raita, Shish Kababs, Garlic Naan, and Rice... EVERYTHING WAS great. Though I am a meat eater, when I eat Indian food I mainly stick to the vegetarian dishes. Everything was excellent. The Saag Paneer and the raita were to die for. I found the meat dishes a little dry, but the rest of my group loved it and finished every bite of it... The service was great. The owners are Indians transplanted from London. We chatted with them a bit, but they were busy. They have beer and wine, which always makes me happy.... We are definitely going to return... even though I can cook a pretty mean Indian meal!

Staycation Meal #1 In planning our Staycation in Westlake Village, we knew we wanted to stop by the Camarillo outlets and looked for some Yelp favorite'd restaurants in the vicinity. The Curry Leaf came up no matter how much I zoomed out of the area and since both the husband & I love yummy Indian food, we made it our first meal. It is in a strip mall very typical of this area (we soon found out), right to the left of the CVS if that helps you spot it. It's a really small place that can seat maybe 25-30 at a time, but tables are primarily meant for 2-4. We came in a little near the end of Friday lunch and while waiting for a table to clear, stopped by CVS. By the time we came back, the table was ready and waiting. We ordered the following... *Strawberry Lassi: I think the mango lassi would have been better but we were both curious about what a strawberry lassi would taste like. It tasted essentially like a strawberry shake, but maybe with coconut milk instead of regular? Not exactly sure. It was good, but didn't quite hit the spot *Chicken Tikka Masala: Lunch specials come with a small side of salad (good), vegetable curry (okay), rice (crucial), and naan (delicious). The Chicken itself was good- moist, not too dry. The Masala was delicious! I was a little worried it'd be uber spicy based on another review, but it was actually just fine. It had a little kick, but nothing to make the eyes water. *Tandoori Chicken: half chicken, looked awesome straight from the oven. It definitely tasted richer and more moist than the breast meat in the Tikka Masala, but that's just how bone-in meat is. *Garlic Naan: we paid $1 to upgrade one of our naans to Garlic Naan and it was really good. Hard to mess up naan, but it was fresh, warm, and perfect. The lunch specials were definitely a good deal- I don't think they post them on the website, but I want to say they were the same prices as listed online but with the extra perks of salad/curry/rice/naan. The bathroom does take you through the kitchen and as someone commented, it looks like the cook the curries in batches... but honestly? It was delicious. No dings from me for that. I would say this is a 4.5 star review only because it seemed a little under-staffed. It was somewhat difficult to grab the attention of our server, but we were so happy with the food we really didn't mind. Something to keep in mind if you're in a rush, though! PS: Leftovers heat up deliciously & they gave us an extra bowl of rice to take home... suhweet.

I love coming here because all the dishes are flavorful and delicious. They sure know how to prepare dishes that use a lot of ingredients that all work together. There's a chicken appetizer that uses like 30 different seasonings, which I thought was kinda ridiculous until I tried it and found out how good it was. The owner is quite a character, and if you aren't sure what to order he'll pick something for you and you won't be disappointed. This place is awesome!

My husband & have been hearing rave reviews from our friends so on a Friday date night we decided to try it out. When we told the owner/manager we had never been there before he asked if he could pick the items on the menu for us. I'm so glad he did because the food was SOOO GOOD! The quality of the meat was amazing and melted in our mouths. I have to say The Curry Leaf is my alltime favorite place to go for Indian food.

I adore the Curry Leaf. I've seen a bunch of businesses come and go from that spot over the years, but I really hope this one is here to stay. I much prefer it to Cafe India in town. Their curries are rich and flavorful, though sometimes a touch underseasoned for my taste. I especially love their korma, rogan josh, and chicken tikka masala. In the past I've literally chomped into cardamom pods, or even had to pull a bay leaf out of my mouth. It was a bit strange, but I didn't mind it too much; that's how fresh and authentic their food is. The last time I went there I was pretty disappointed by the service to start with. Things are a bit slow, despite its small size. We ordered naan and didn't receive it until 20-30 minutes after we finished the rest of our meal. I was all geared up to complain to the waiter about it, but after it finally came to the table and I took my first bite, I couldn't complain at all. It was nice and hot, fresh from the oven, and so worth the wait. The best naan I have ever tasted.

It's hard to compare Indian cuisine to other foods because the power and taste of the beautiful spices. Like I've always said when watching the vast amounts of competitive cooking shows on TV... you could serve dog turds Indian style and it would taste good. But that being said, this place has GREAT food. The owner is very nice and I will definitely be eating there more often.

i lost my virginity the other night, my Indian food virginity. Thanks to a gal-pal convincing me to finally try it, we headed over to one of her favorite restaurants, The Curry Leaf. i figured it must be pretty good since she thinks it's worth driving to from Ventura at a moment's notice. don't be afraid to ask questions or advice. the server guided me through the menu and made some suggestions on what a newbie like me should try. i had the: -vegetable samosas: potato and peas turnover -cheese naan: flat bread filled with onions and 3 cheeses -saffron rice: more expensive than the other rice options, but well worth it for the flavor -a curry: i can't remember what the name of it was, but it was a creamy, coconut milk based curry, so it was one of the milder options -chicken tikka masala: the chicken morsels were tender and the tomato gravy had a big kick -mango lassi: a cool, yogurt-based drink to soothe the palate of a spice-wimp like myself don't be fooled by the small portions. start off by choosing a handful of plates to share. you'll be surprised at how filling these little plates start to become!

WOW. This place was great! First off when you see where this place is located, you wouldn't think it would be anything special (It's located in a shopping center/plaza). But once you see inside you'll see it is. Small and clean, but almost upscale looking, but the food will blow you away more. All the different curry and tikka masala where great, dip some garlic naan... even better! Surprise of the night? The Chicken Loliipops. Don't judge a book by its cover (surroundings). Can't wait to visit the cousins again... and maybe they'll take us here again... =)

Lunch menu is large, but $12.00 each for chicken tikka masala. The plate came with a good india. Version of ole slaw, rice, and a large enough bowl of chicken in perfect sauce. It slso came with a bowl of curry potatoes as a side dish. The naanbread was fresh and hot. The restaurant is small, one bay in a strip mall. No outdoor seating. Food was great, however like I said, overpriced. I have been there about four times over last four years as I dont live in the area. The bad: there is one bathroom due to space limits for staff and guests. You have to walk thru the kitchen which is way too small, crowded and looks dirty. The bathroom was a mess. I thibk it has gone downhill and clearlt needs a good cleaning and organizing. I had to walk by open bowls of food in the kitchen, I mean right next to it. Also the kitchen floor and bathroom were so sluck and wet with sonething I had to walk very careful and no staff warned me but you had to notice. Like an oil slick. A real mess. After that I decided i'm not going back. My daughter & I both actually got diareah for days.

Both my vegetarian self and my super picky (and hesitant) husband left very satisfied and impressed! The food was outstanding, particularly my husband's Butter Chicken (get it with some garlic naan). Service was also great---efficient and friendly, without overbearingly trying to sell their personality. We spent just a bit more than we normally would on an impromptu night out but I am STILL thinking about our amazing meal. Can't wait to go back.

first time eating indian food. we always go to the vons down the way and the smells coming from the restaurant is what lured me to try it. the portions for the lunch specials are a pretty good size and comes with rice, salad, naan, and your choice of curry. i ordered the chicken korma & my boyfriend ordered the chicken tikki marsala. we ended up trading because the korma was a bit too spicy for me. (but i don't eat much spicy foods so for spice fiends out there, it might be alright for you...). oh, and their hummus is yummy too!! the staff is friendly, and it seems like they get a lot of repeat customers because the owner (i think he was the owner) was really buddy buddy with them.

Last night, my boyfriend and I met my son at The Curry Leaf after his evening class at CSUCI. The route there is a little circuitous. It is not a quick hop off the 101 in Camarillo. Allow an extra 5 or 10 minutes to get there from the freeway. Let me first get the negatives out of the way: The posted hours stated 9:30 closing. A restaurant's closing time generally refers to the time up until customers can come in and sit down and order. My BF and I arrived at about 8:45 and ordered for everybody. My son arrived at around 9:00 and ordered his drink. About 9:10, we ordered some Samosas to round everything out. Once 9:30 rolled around, though, the message was pretty clear: Get the F*&^ out of here! Hey, if you run a restaurant and want to go home at 9:30, then you should "close" at 8:30. When we first arrived, we sat at a table along the wall to the right. As soon as I sat down, I realized we needed to move. A very bright quartz light pierced my eyes. We moved to another table closer to the kitchen and that was a lot more comfortable. We had two waiters. I'll call one the "short guy", and the other the "tall guy". I was glad to see beer on the list. I've been to a couple Indian restaurants that don't sell alcohol... or meat... But the one thing conspicuously missing from the list, was wine. I was ready to order beer when I noticed wine glasses hanging up along one wall. At that point I asked the not-so-thrilled-looking short guy about wine. It turns out they had Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Merlot available. (He didn't enlighten us as to the winery. Sorry.) We ordered a couple glasses of the Chenin and it was actually pretty good. But can't they just list the wine? Or maybe create a real wine list with a variety? Their food certainly warrants it. I think a restaurant which slightly under-salts its otherwise excellent food, should provide sea-salt grinders on the table. Honestly, sea salt is so much better than standard table salt in a shaker... and their food deserves it. Some of the portions need to be bigger. The Chicken Tikka Masala needed to have about 3 or 4 more chunks of chicken. There was a lot more sauce than chicken. The Garlic Naan was two pieces. They were about 9"x5", but not enough to complement the meals of all three of us. We ended up going for a second order. OK I'll stop bitching and discuss the good stuff. But first an apology for any mangled Indian words. No offense intended, I'm just an ugly American. The Chicken Tikka Masala was tender, with layered flavors. The Masala tasted to me like they blend it in-house. It was aromatic and nutty with slight toasty notes. We had another chicken dish recommended by the tall guy. Sorry I don't know the name of the dish, but it was roasted slices with a lemony flavor, served with thinly sliced onions. It was a very "white" dish with the exception of the edges of the chicken, which were toasted almost black. To look at it, you'd think "bland". Not. Very nice, complex, bright flavors. To complement everything, we had the Saag Paneer, vegetable rice, and garlic naan. The Saag Paneer had a delicious, earthy flavor. To me, the Paneer tasted home-made. We smeared it on the Garlic Naan for a beautiful complement to our chicken dishes. The unsung hero of the evening was the vegetable rice, recommended by the tall guy. Godly. No question about it. Think about vegetable rice in your head. What do you see? Something like fried rice in a Chinese place? OK now just shake that image right out of there like an Etch-A-Sketch. This stuff was a deep tan color, not because it's "brown" rice, but because of the rich broth and infused seasonings. Yes, they must have used a broth that had been reducing for, like, 10 years. It was perfectly cooked long grain Basmati rice. Not too firm, not too soft, not too sticky. It had all kinds of big veggie chunks in it: broccoli, carrots, peas, onions... I let the Chicken Masala sauce merge with it and it was truly a wonderful moment! If you were to just order that and some kind of protein you'd have a hearty meal. My 6'5" son is a big eater so we came to realize that we needed a little bit more. So, despite the not-so-enthusiastic reception by the short guy, we ordered the Vegetable Samosa. Very tasty but when I exhaled through my nose, I could detect slight essence of refrigerator-freezer. Maybe they pre-make them, store them in the walk-in, then drop them in the deep fryer when people order them. I'm not going to bitch about it. It *was* the end of the day and they otherwise tasted really good... and the men didn't notice so all's well. I'll go back... but earlier. We'll probably try their lunch buffet. Five stars if they were to fix up their wine list, increase the aforementioned portions, adjust the lighting... and adjust their attitude. My money's just as good at 9:30 as it is at 8:30.

Seriously the best Indian food I've ever tried. It kinda sucks because I'm not local and this place puts my local place to shame. I have the feeling this restaurant got "discovered" because when I first came here the place was deserted - every time I've been since there's been a line out the door! The place is in a weird location with very little Indian decor - but WHO CARES about the atmosphere, all I'm looking at is my plate! My stomach is growling just from writing about it.

We tend to eat like gluttons every time we go for Indian food! We came around 8pm on a Thursday night. The place is simply decorated and clean. We were promptly seated and a very nice man with long (dreads?) hair was our server. He was very friendly and helpful. We decided to try some mango lassi which is a thick yogurt drink. Though it didn't taste bad, it's way too thick and seemed more like a dessert than a drink to wash your food down. We started off with the meat samosas with ground lamb and peas. Very yummy. We usually get 2 entrees, basmati and raita every time. I tried the aloo gobi, which is cauliflower and potatoes. The hubs got a lamb curry that was absolutely delicious! The lamb was in cut into cubes and SO tender. Although I liked my dish I wanted to eat all of his! We saved room for a lil dessert and got kheer even though our server recommended the gulab juman instead. We probably should have listened to him! The kheer wasn't that great to us, BUT, I also think it's like an acquired taste thing. Food was great and prices reasonable for Indian food. One major bad thing is that I smelled for like a day or two. And yes, I did take showers!!

Excellent service, a clean restaurant and delicious food. Get the potato and beef samosa and the chicken tikka masala.

The veggie samosas here are BOMB! It's not spicy, but it is flavorful. The shell is just the perfect texture. yum yum! The chicken masala was good. I've had better.. but I still consider this one good. I do appreciate that they were able to tone down the spiciness level for us. I'd probably try other things on the menu next time. But this place is def worth a try.

Great food, but very small portions and hefty prices. Two on a take out with Naan is over $35. Too much for takeout and that much of food. There is never ANY leftovers when we go there. I vouch for Chesters Chinese off Arneill than choosing this high priced, even though its a chinese restaurant. There are other cheaper Indian in this city and in Ventura.

Four of us went to The Curry Leaf so we shared four dishes (3 chicken, 1 shrimp). Had a couple orders of rice, one garlic and one plain naan, and one mango lassi. The main dished were very tasty but the portions are small. The naan was just ok, I've had better garlic naan. I would like to return to sample other dishes. The mango lassi was not cold, we added ice to chill it; I'm not an expert on mango lassis but it tasted better cold.

Holy Crap we need to talk. This place is de-freaking-licious and for a great price. While dinner can get a little pricey (still well worth it), the lunch specials come with entree, rice, naan, and a (very) small salad and curry that makes it a great deal. Of course you can't go wrong with chicken tika masala. If they made the sauce in a "to go" cup I'd probably have them fill it up and just sip at it the rest of the afternoon. The place has a great homey, family run, sort of feel. The wait staff looks to be mostly a few regulars who are gracious, attentive, and always make you feel genuinely welcome and glad to be there. If you love Indian food, great, here's a nice spot. If you have had Indian food in the past and didn't like it, give it one more shot here; it's worth it.

My BF and I tried Indian Food for the first time last night and were so pleasantly surprised! We were referred to this location by a bank employee who is Indian who had told us that it was the best in town. We order the cheese naan to start, which was fabulous. The Chicken Dhaniya (cilantro curry w/coconut milk) was to die for over basmati rice and the Chicken Tikka Masala was equally as good. I could eat just the sauces with the rice and be happy! They say if you want 'flavor', Indian food is it! They aren't kidding, this food is so flavorful and delicious! I might have to reconsider sushi as my favorite now :) We really wanted to try the Indian beer to round out the whole experience; however they were out of it, which was kind of a bummer. The service was slow at best, but they were understaffed due to an employee call in. I actually felt a bit sorry for the one employee who was hussling to please us, and the owner who was ensuring that a full restaurant was taken care of! This was just an off night for them I believe. Overall experience was good and we will definately be a returning customer!

Best Indian food I've had that wasn't homemade. This is a small restaurant-be prepared to wait, or you can order take-out. The food is amazing and they have lots of regional specialties I haven't seen elsewhere. Plus you can order goat! The popadums are super to start with--great flavor, and a little hit of spice, and both chutneys are tasty but I give the edge to the tamarind one. Naan is fluffy and has great texture. The vindaloo and rogan josh are standouts. I ate here with a group and most were pretty unfamiliar with Indian food but everyone was happy with what they got. Friendly service and super food--who would've thought this place could exist in Camarillo?

Clean restaurant. Friendly service. It was our first time there so the owner gave us his recommendations and we were NOT disappointed! We started off with some spicy garlic cauliflower that was amazing... We wolfed it down in no time! Rosemary bread was good, rice was perfect, and the shrimp I ordered tasted so fresh and delicious! My husband had the korma curry dish and was pleased with it as well. There are so many menu items that I am eager to try like the samosas and garlic naan. I can't wait to go back!

Had Indian food at a handful of restaurants/markets around the LA area and this place is legit. Came here for lunch with four friends and we all agreed that this is the most unique Indian food we have ever had. Intrigued by the rare Indian flavors that I experienced here, I googled one of my favorite dish, the Chef's special - Chicken 65 and found exciting facts: "Chicken 65 is a spicy, deep-fried chicken dish popular in South India, as a bar snack, entree, or quick snack." So just like Cantonese, Mandarin and Szechuan associated with regions of Chinese food. I think I'm beginning to fall in love with South Indian cuisine. Will be coming here a lot in the next couple months to test out this theory. Ask the owner about how it all started... It's a pretty cool story.

I know a lot of people say a lot of the same things in their reviews. But oh well, I don't care The Curry Leaf really is the BEST Indian food I've had in Ventura County. We came here for lunch today and all the tables were full. A man, Im guessing was the owner, said to wait about ten minutes. So we returned again 10 minutes later to see two individuals lined up outside. When the time came, the owner made it clear that we had came first and seated us promptly. Surely it was a sign of good customer service. I ordered the chicken tikka masala. Very predictable of me I must say, but I always enjoy this dish. It exceeded my expectations. Not too mild and not too spicy. The Mango lassi was the best I have tasted. It was very thick and creamy. It was not overly sweet as some lassis are. A good balance of yogurt and mango. Perfect compliment for food that is spicy.... I will return very soon!

Great food! Went here for lunch based on some of my co-workers recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. I got the dhaniya lamb which for lunch came with rice, salad, and a side of saag. The lamb was delicious, spicy but not too spicy, and the naan was yummy (although you can hardly ever go wrong with naan). This is a good spot if your in the mood for some indian food!

I haven't been able to find an Indian restaurant I love since moving back from Hawaii. The flavor was amazing, fresh and authentic. I've often found flavor lacking in other restaurants and a bit dull, but not here! The Chana Masala and Matter Paneer were delicious, perfect amount of spice. I was really impressed and thrilled I finally found an amazing Indian restaurant! They never disappoint!

We went to this restaurant not knowing what to expect. And boy we were shocked!!! The food was outstanding. Cooked to order, fresh, great presentation. Bombay chicken, delicious! Chicken lollipops, spectacular! Lamb Vindaloo, amazing! The staff was kind - especially the owner, Sandy. We loved it so much that we came back following day and enjoyed it even more. Surely recommend it.

Absolutely superb cuisine. I could probably count the amount of Indian restaurants I've eaten at on around 10 fingers, but this is by far the best... every dish we've had here has been tasty. They are a little small and the whole restaurant has a strong Indian food smell, but give them a shot and you'll enjoy it.

Food is ok, but it lacks flavor. Food is slightly sub-par compared to most LA area Indian restaurants. The samosas were very greasy and expensive. Basmati rice was good and reasonably priced. Chicken Tikka Masala was not very tangy - sorta bland. Aloo Paratha was tasty but pretty thin and barely any potatoe. The kitchen seemed a bit dirty, and it seemed a lot of food was pre-prepared. Staff is friendly and work hard. Interior is ok, comfortable but not fancy.

I live in Mission Oaks and this has been my go to place since they opened a few years back. The restaurant is really quaint and small so you may want to get there early during the busy dinner hours. I tried there fast food spot in Isla Vista as well and consider this location to be much better.

Holy Bajesus... This place seriously has the best Indian food I've ever tasted. I think I wrote a review already maybe last year, but I just went AGAIN for the 5th time and I have to tell you the food is FANTASTIC. Not a place for ambiance really.. Not bad, just a little hole in the wall place in a strip mall... BUT THE FOOD IS BEYOND! I'm writing this because of 2 reasons. First, I have been pleading with my hubby to go here with me and he's all... "I don't like that kind of food"... Shut up pansy... get off your island and pop that bubble you live in.. YOU NEED TO TRY SOMETHING NEW.. Trust me! You will love it.. Kicking and screaming, he obliged. Then to his horror... I had to tell him to let SANDY (the owner??) to order for us.. So.. not only was I dragging my hubby, but now I'm telling him he can't choose anything. I've never ordered anything myself each time I've been there. I just tell Sandy to order for me. EVERYTIME it's a dream meal. The quality and taste is really really good. OK... fast forward to hubby sulking in his chair, adamantly not giving in to GIVING up control.... TRUST ME... TRUST ME... He did after pleading, and begging and all out nagging... Sandy delivered!! Chicken 89 or something was our appetizer, then a spicy lamb something and a chicken yummy something along with the most amazing naan bread fresh from the oven made fresh for my pouting spouse... HE WAS BEGGING for more and literally wanting to lick the plate... He was even moaning with each bite. I explained to him this is not your average yellow curry stuff our white-bread moms TRIED concocting when we were wee ones.. This was the real deal, the right stuff baby!!! Didn't hurt that an awesome Indian beer washed down the kick that my husband asked for... Second reason, is I wanted to send a big ole THANK YOU CURRY LEAF for transporting my husband from In-In Out Burger and BJ's for an evening off our island... Truly... WE will be back!

Took me a couple bites to get used to the flavor. Second time around I should like it even better. I don't really have any other restaurants to compare with since this is the first time eating Indian food. I really enjoyed the mango lassi and hummus with the fried bread. Delish!!! The pungent smell of the tikki masala didn't seem too inviting for me but as I started tasting it the different exotic flavors made me keep on wanting more. I'm not totally experienced with this whole spicy food movement soo I was happy when I enjoyed my first, second and third bites. Service was great and decor was lovely and not to overwhelming. I fully enjoyed my first experience eating Indian food. Will def come back!

I love Curry Leaf. The place is run by Sandy, who is a very personable guy. The food is delicious, and the lunch menu is the best deal. However, the restaurant is small, so there might be a wait (but it's well worth it!). They are closed Mondays and also close from 3-5:30 every day. Their chicken tikka masala is THE BEST I've ever had, and they make some freaking AWESOME naan :)

I used to love this place. Now I am taking a second look. We ordered tandoori chicken and the vegetarian mixed veggies with coconut milk and spinach with some kashmiri tomato soup. Every littel item costs more, naan $3 kaching, rice $2 kaching, papadoms $2 kaching. this in addition to the $12 and $10 for entrees Well for that price we would expect really good food. The papadoms were cold and burnt. Server said they were 'supposed' to be served cold. The tomato soup was like Campbells soup with some garam masala and clove powder stirred in. The naan was doughy. Main entrees were OK, but not great. The kitchen, which you cannot help observing if you go to the restroom... well!! have you ever seen the show 'kitchen nightmares?' I might add there was not a chef in sight in the kitchen, only heater uppers

I loved this place!! It's clean, inviting, and was really busy at lunch which is always a good sign. I ordered the lamb samomas and chicken korma lunch special. The total came to just under $15 and it was enough for 2 meals. The samosas were incredible, just as tasty as I've ever had! The lamb was tender and juicy and they were the perfect golden brown. The naan was perfection (can it be bad? haha) and so were the sauces provided. The chicken was tender, in nice large chunks and the sauce was divine. I had never had chicken korma before, but will definitely have it again! I am so pleased to have found a decent Indian place so close! Can't wait to return...

I've been here a couple of times and enjoyed the environment and food. Everything was fairly priced and friendly environment. My friends and I went there to have dinner this past Friday (08/23/11) there was a total of 5 in our group. Once we get there the restaurant is pretty busy, which I understand for a Friday night and for the size of the restaurant. We had to wait roughly around 20 minutes for our table which I did not mind at all. Once we were seated we waited additional 20 minutes for the server to take our order, during that time there was another party of 5, party of 4 and a party of 2 that was seated after we were. My friends and I were just trying to kill time until our food came out and while we were waiting the 3 parties that were seated after us got their meals before we did. Once we got our meals (which took close to an hour) I was pretty irate that the parties that was seated after us received their meals before we did. One of my friends pulled the waiter aside and told him our complaint and the only thing he could say was it was some mix up in the kitchen and they mixed up our tickets. It's funny how when the other parties walked into the restaurant the waiting staff knew them by name and gave them a hug.... Which made me think and feel that they were giving more attention to their "regulars" then some ordinary customer. From this past experience I will never return this restaurant and I do not know if I will ever find a Indian restaurant that was as tasty as Curry Leaf. **Curry Leaf- You need a new ordering system so tickets do not get "mixed up" so your future customers do not have to experience what we experienced.

Really solid Indian food, and the owner is super friendly. Its always ridiculously hot in here, so bring some swim trunks and a sweat band, I blame this on a cultural thing. A bit pricey as well.

I have been to too many Indian restaurants, but the Curry Leaf in CAMARILLO is quite possibly the BEST Indian Restaurant I have ever been to. Everything looks and tastes amazing. The food is fresh and made to order. Do not go if you are starving because it will take some time to get your food, but well worth the wait. Quaint and in a small shopping center. A+++++

As far as Indian cuisine, this is one of the best I've had in Ventura County, they have a cauliflower dish that is absolutely impeccable. Their curries have a wonderfully traditional feel and flavor to them, and the staff there have been nothing except pleasant to me on all occasions. A true gem

We were driving back from LA to SFO via Santa Barbara and stopped here for lunch. The menu is very good and reasonable. The food is tasty and not spicy. Good for moderate spice lovers and Indian food beginners. The service was good and fast. Kerala fish curry is a must try.

Well from some of the other reviews, they must have had a 'hard opening'. While there were still a few chinks in their armor, this was a charming place. This is a Cafe type setting - not really for large groups or families, especially those with children. I can't believe that anyone could find the British born Indian Sandy, one of the owners, offensive. He was very friendly and helpful. He even took my jibes about not having a good beer on the menu - they carry a couple mediocre Indian beers and Stone IPA, in bottles - but were out of the Stone. I told him to contact Stonebrew.com and get regular deliveries! It is one of life better pleasures and should not be missed. Too often, as Sandy admitted, the people that run a restaurant are not beer drinkers. Indian food is the only time my wife will drink a beer, she feels it is a necessary part of the dinning experience. The food and service was better than good. The dishes we choose we both very tasty and well done. We started with Onion Baji and Papadoms, followed by a Chicken Korma and Lamb Vindaloo. My wife has trouble getting a a 'mild' version of a Korma, apparently the ginger can be over done, therefore it is often too spicy for her. It smelled and looked as tastey as it was. My Vindaloo was perfectly 'medium', brought a sweat to the back of my neck, as a medium dish should do. The white meat chicken in the Korma and the lamb were tender and very tasty. The little 'milk balls' served a a finisher were perfect matched to the spicy meal.

The food is good, the service is acceptable. There are times when I feel like I am in Bombay itself when I eat here; that can be both a good and bad thing. The food here does call out to you, there are times when I think about the chicken kasmiri for days....

If I could give this restaurant any more stars I would. Seriously. The Channa Masala? Orgasmic. The Aloo Matar? Amazing. Any of the Vegan dishes I've tried have either been mouth watering or savory or both. I think there might have been a dish that I was like, "Ooh, this is spicy and not in a good way..." and I'm thinking it's because I don't do spicy all that well. The owner is so courteous and wonderful...and I can go on and on....the only little drawback is that it's in the most random place. It's located in the Vons shopping center...tucked away in the corner...but for some of you that are up for an adventure and don't really mind the locale...it's worth heading over there.

Delicious food. Please don't tell me how many calories are in the saag paneer, I don't wanna know! Just keep it comin'.

It's a small place, but the service is good and the food hits the spot. I take it they cater to the local community, because the food is much less spicy than other Indian food I have tried (for spicy try curries). Regardless, it is very tasty. For veggie palates, I highly recommend the Chole Bhatura (sp? garbanzo beans in a tomato broth) that comes with the fried bread...delish!! I absolutely love it. Also, the chicken tikka masala (the consistency reminds me of Mexican mole) is really well seasoned and the chicken absolutely tender. Shrimp curry was nice and spicy. Lunch is the cheaper way to go as you get a main course, dahl, salad and naan. For dinner you will have to get these separately. Try the Iced Chai and plain and mango lassi, very, very good. Only downer was the chicken tandoori. Too many added veggies on it and my chicken (bone in) was not cooked all the way! Also, it would be nice if they served in katori bowls in the thali platter, aside from that eat with your hand and enjoy!

Been there for a couple of times with a yellow chicken curry lunch special the first time (forgot the exact indian name of the dish) and chicken tikka masala dinner the second time. From trying different dishes that my crew has ordered, I'd have to say that chicken tikka masala must be the best dish there since nothing comes close to its rich, flavorful aroma. Garlic naan is also good, Overall, I'd recommend just sticking with the lunch special if you're on a budget since it comes with big yummy slices of plain naan and a side of this yogurt dipping sauce and salad along with your basmati rice and curry. I mention this because I don't see that big of a difference between the portion sizes of a full dinner entree versus the lunch deal except that the former doesn't come with free naan, rice, salad, or dipping sauce but you do have to pay about 3-4 bucks more for it (bummers).

"What could possibly be in Mission Oaks, and be good?!!" That's what I thought when I saw 'The Curry Leaf' on yelp, and was I surprised when I gave this place a try! I did not dislike this place, but I hated it! JK! When it comes to Indian cuisine, I am still a novice. Not sure if what they sell is the real Indian food or Americanized version of it, but whatever it is, I love it! I sampled their meat samosas, chicken tikka masala, and cheese naan. The meat samosas were good, but could have been better. They were a little dry inside, probably due to the chickpeas. When I went to school at UC Irvine, the students of an Indian club sold better ones on campus. The chicken tikka masala was on a different level. I will admit that I was a little sad that there were only like six pieces of chicken in this dish. They do need to step it up a little on their chicken portions, but their broth was oh em gee amazing! Not spicy at all. It was this tomato broth that also had a slight taste of coconut milk. Sounds strange, but I liked the coconut milk in there. This dish is so so good. If it's your first time there and you have not a clue of what to try, get this get this get this. The naan was okay. I guess I was expecting the cheese to be a little different or exotic. It tasted like store bought cheddar cheese to me. I will definitely be coming back as it is now my new favorite eatery in Camarillo!

So sad, used to be my favorite place to order Indian food. Until I ordered take out for the first time. The portions were small and I paid out of the nose. All of the sudden what had cost me 55 bucks when I ordered at the table cost me 89 when I ordered take out.

The best authentic spicy exotic Indian food in VC! When it says spicy next to the dish, it is really spicy, unlike other Indian restaurants I've been where they tone down the spice to cater to non-indian customers. Try the samosas as appetizer - yummy, and perfect to start the main course with. The naan's are also served fresh and hot, the aroma alone would want you to dip it in right away to any of the chicken dishes they had on their menu. For veggie lovers, they had a long list of dishes just for you. Price is just about right.

Best Indian food in Camarillo, and rivals any of the best we've tried in Ventura. It's a small place and it's a mom n pop type business, so sometimes the service is slow because they get busy. Also, the ventilation system is in need of an upgrade because the smell of cooking oil from the kitchen hangs in the air. If you like those aromas from the kitchen youre fine, but on that and the occasional slow service, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. Food is fantastic though.

I've been to the Middle East, and this place is authentic as you can get. The food is always phenomenal, and the staff is very friendly. My wife and I love dipping the cheese naan in yellow dal. If you're looking for some suggestions try the following: chicken tikka malsala, butter chicken, balsamati rice, vegetable samosas, and let's not forget the mango lassi.

IN 10 WORDS OR LESS: "DON'T JUDGE AN INDIAN RESTAURANT BY IT'S LOCATION" Coming from someone who grew up eating Indian dishes, this place is pretty good. It's the size of a small cafe, so it doesn't work well with large groups, but the food is great and the prices are very reasonable. The Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area doesn't have a lot of choices for Indian cuisine, but this is a great option that's nearby. The foods have just the right amount of spice and flavor and the curry isn't overbearing like a lot of other curries I've had. Definitely recommend The Curry Leaf to anyone looking for some quality Indian food at a reasonable price.

I love this place. If you live in Camarillo and want authentic Indian food, look right here. All their curries hit the spot and the owner is so friendly. He remembers me and my gf each time we come in, which always makes it enjoyable to eat at this restaurant. They menu is well worth the price. Get the Chicken Tikka Masala or Butter Chicken. And don't forget the garlic naan. Vege Samosas too! I've tried Indian food in places like London and New Zealand, and this place is on the top of my list of favorites!

My wife and I had driven by the Curry Leaf several times on our way to Vons Supermarket for grocery shopping. I thought," wouldn't it be great to not have to drive to the valley for some great Indian food?" In this case the wish did not come true. The eggplant (bharta) was very oil laden and fairly flat, the garlic Naan was mediocre, my wife's Chicken curry was fair at best. The service was good and the premises were clean and well appointed. Unfortunately I was disappointed as IMHO the "other" indian restaurant although not great is much better than the Curry Leaf. I will not eat at this establishment again.

I want to start off by saying the food was DELICIOUS! The service not so much. My girlfriend and I went here for lunch. This is the order of occurences that took place. 1 sat down at table. Was asked what to drink. Asked for water. 2 waters, came were placed on our table, both had no ice. The water was luke warm. 2. Server / manager came to our table and was not too interested in being cordial, instead, was more about hurrying and taking the order. We asked for reccomendations as to 2 different entrees I was teetering on, he was quite unhelpful. 3. My girlfriends food came out before mine. Our server came back to inform me that the cook made the wrong dish. I had to wait 10 minutes for my food while my girlfriends food was cooling off in front of her. Usually I'm quite patient with these kind of mistakes however when a server can empathise with it and offer an accomodation for the mistake this annoys me. 4. At last , the food came. The entree came with a side of Veg. Curry (A+), basmati rice (A+) plain naan (A-) , and a side salad, All of the food was delicious. My reason for taking away 2 stars is 1- Eh, service and, 2- No lunch buffet. All indian restaurants should have a lunch buffet. My girlfriend loved her food too. I reccomend trying it .

The best Indian food so far in Los Angeles for me. I decided to go for only vegetarian dishes in the restaurants of LA, so that I can be happy and healthy. We ordered (1) Chai -- Indian Tea (2) Roti (3) Malai kofta (4) Onion Kulcha Chai is the best (besides what I had at Indian Summer, Monterey Bay), and the waitress asked us for a free refil. Wow , that is so nice of her, felt like at home. Onion Kulcha is one of the best I had here in USA. The cook really knows how to make kulcha. Malai Kofta is so tasty and spicy enough ( I asked to make it spicy , Also no nuts and raisins) I have never had such a fresh kofta so far. The service is good and very quick. Also they did good packing of leftovers. I will definitely visit this place whenever I goto Camarillo outlet malls. Can't drive for two hours just for one meal, otherwise I would prefer this place very much among any other LA restaurants.

Service seems the same at every Indian restaurant so it was mediocre....although the owner keeps a good memory of the regulars. So service was decent....fast liquid refills...food came in less than 10 minutes. Now for the food, I ordered tandoori salmon with an appetizer of cheese naan and safron rice. My wife ordered vindaloo chicken with safran rice and we shared raita (yogurt sauce)...if have to say the food was absolutely amazing. Perfect blend of spices...not too overbearing. The salmon flaked like dang....can't even describe it. My wife is a huge fan of Taj in ventura...she liked the chicken vindaloo at the curry leaf but will always prefer Taj's. Overall great place to eat and great addition the mission oaks restaurants.

We moved to Camarillo from the Seattle area where excellent ethnic restaurants are everywhere. We tried a couple of the Indian restaurants (Cafe India in Camarillo and Taj Cafe in Ventura) that had good reviews and found them to be terrible both in food and service. We saw The Curry Leaf being built in the strip mall and were hoping that we'd finally have a good Indian restaurant. We happened to be grocery shopping at the Von's in the strip mall on opening night so gave it a try. And, boy, were we happy to find an excellent Indian restaurant! The people there are super friendly. Every time we go there, we're warmly greeted by the staff. The servers are very attentive and speedy...even if I'm just picking up a take out order. And the owner usually spends a few minutes chatting with me no matter how busy they are. They definitely show their appreciation for your business. The food is absolutely awesome as well. The vindaloo is spicy and the chicken tikka masala is deliciously creamy. The dal and saag paneer is perfectly flavored as well. Their chicken lollipops, while having a strange name, are very tasty and an excellent starter. Unfortunately, they don't have a lunch buffet that many Indian restaurants have. But they do have reasonably priced lunch specials that are a good substitute. As a side note, The Curry Leaf is owned by the same owner as Spice Avenue in Santa Barbara. I've had the lunch buffet there and found it every bit as good as The Curry Leaf.

The food is great. I have trouble remember names of some foods, but I ordered one of the curries, a side of rice and garlic naan. Their naan is amazing and costs about $3. They also used some kind of seed in their basmati rice, which added a nice aroma to it also about $3. The curry I ordered was a chicken curry. They used chicken breast so the meat was a little tough, but still maintained a good taste. The curry cost $11 that I ordered coming to about $17. I gave 4 stars because food was overall good; however I feel that the cost was a bit expensive (I did order a lot and could've split between two as a light meal). Still worth it though, please come here!

One of the perks of working in Camarillo, aside from the Premium Outlets. They have lunch specials on entree's that are complete with basmati rice, naan bread, salad, and vegetable stew. I usually upgrade my naan to garlic. Every item does not overpower one over the other in taste. Quality of their food, atmosphere, and service is superb. My goal is to try every lunch special on the menu because so far, every trial has been a party on my palate! This place gets packed by noon and some regulars even wait for a table just to get their Indian food fix, and I claim to be one of the regulars.

At this point, The Curry Leaf does not need a review, given the raving collection of fans but when I first moved to the area, I was desperate to find "ethnic" (no, Italian and Mexican don't count) food and was sorely disappointed at the choice. I noticed this place being built on a visit to MOs Cafe and have been coming here almost weekly ever since. Having eaten Indian food throughout the world, including all over India, I can tell you the food here is fantastic. Each dish is unique and flavorful and the lunch prices can't be beat - there is no buffet but it is not needed. The Chicken Tikka Masala (CTM) is fantastic. This is obviously the most commonly eaten Indian dish in the West and Curry Leaf does not disappoint. It is creamy and buttery and everything it should be. The Saag dishes, especially the Saag Paneer is out of this world. Most restaurant mush this up but these guys have delicious pieces of cheese in the most flavorful spinach you can find. I can just eat the spinach - even without the paneer or chicken or whatever you choose to add. The lamb dishes are also expertly made, the Rogan Josh, the Dhaniya are all fantastic. The fresh naan in its plain form, outdoes the flavored naans in most other locations. I also love the service here. No doubt it is crowded and you must come in before noon to get seated for lunch at a reasonable time. and they could also use a few more waiters during the peak hours like Friday at lunch time, but the owner is a great guy who is friendly and warm. Go when it is quiet and have a conversation - it will further improve the experience.

Best Indian food in Camarillo. I highly recommend their lunch specials. My only negative comment is the service is sometimes slow.

  • Doug F.

Despite the fact I'm walking distance to The Curry Leaf, I'd still be willing to drive a ways a way, and for good Indian food in this neighborhood you have to, for pickup from this family owned/operated restaurant. The food is 4 star+. The stand by's (palak paneer, aloo gobi, and vindaloo) are all very good. Their take on butter chicken could use a little more meat, but the sauce over rice is top notch. And the Bhindi Masla for the okra lover out their should not be missed. The balance to bring them to a 5 star rating is to support a local business. They're nice people and you can tell they care about their business. Give them a chance next time you're looking for something a little out of the CV ordinary.

I have never Yelped before, but I was so impressed by The Curry Leaf that I decided I needed to give it a good review! The service was a little bit on the slow side, but our food was fantastic! We met some friends for an early dinner. We were the first group at the restaurant, but it got crowded quickly - always a good sign on a weekday evening! My meal was great, I always had a refill of water (a must at an Indian Restaurant!) and everyone in our party was more than satisfied with portions and quality! Two Thumbs UP!

First of all, I want to say that I have been looking for a good Indian restaurant in Ventura County for a long time, and tonight, I thought I'd found it. Unfortunately, my experience was one of the worst, and most upsetting restaurant experiences I have ever had to date. When we, my date and I entered the restaurant we were greeted by a wonderful curry aroma, and I thought...wow, this might be great. The busboys were pleasant and attentive, and the waiter, was extremely cordial and polite. We ordered, and were immediately brought our order of papadum, with mango and mint chutney. It took awhile for the rest of our appetizers to come. As we were waiting, the waiter came up to us, and let us know that he made a mistake and gave another table the rest of our appetizers, and that they had already eaten some of them. He said that he would place another order for our already late appetizers, that another couple were enjoying. We said that is okay, however, we would like to be compensated in some way for this mistake and the additional time it would take to remake the appetizers. Then the owner/manager, not sure which, came over, and told us that he would take them off the bill. We were fine with this, and felt well taken care of. Then our entrees came, and we finished our meal. Right before the bill came, I ordered something to go, and asked for it to be put on a separate bill. When the bill came, not only did they put both our meal and the to go order on one bill, but they never took anything off the bill. We asked the waiter to remedy this, and he took my date's credit card and brought back the bill for a second time, but now we had two bills, one for our meal and one for the to go order, and STILL they had not removed the appetizers that were given to another table. We asked to see the owner/ manager, and the waiter, said he would try and fix it again. He took it back again to the owner/manager, and there was yelling and throwing of dishes, as the owner/manager yelled at our waiter. The waiter came back and said "hold on a minute" and ran out of the restaurant. He then came back with his own cash from a near by bank to give to us to remedy the check situation. We refused to take his own cash, and again asked to speak with the owner/manager, who by the way was right behind us the entire time, and completely ignoring this entire fiasco. At that point, we had had it, and i asked the owner/manager who was extremely sweaty and seemed very frazzled to come over. He just continued to yell and throw a temper-tantrum at the back of the restaurant, and completely ignored my request. I then lost it, and told him that he needs to remedy the bill, and that he is being rude, and is acting completely unprofessionally. He then came over and lied to us by saying that he never told us he would take anything off the bill, and said that he was outside the entire time we were eating. This of course was a complete fabrication, which we tried to defend. At this point , we realized that he was not going to rectify the situation, nor take responsibility for any of his actions, the bill, or anything. I then told him that he will have to deal with his own Karma, and that I will write a scathing review on yelp. He replied" go ahead, I hate yelp". To which I replied will write reviews on every on line forum to make sure people know what went on here tonight, and to let everyone about this surreal and very unfortunate situation. This is such a shame, because the food is pretty good for Indian food in Ventura county. This restaurant does not have a chance of succeeding with someone like this running it. I say to all who want to try it, forget it...make the trek to LA, where you will find great Indian food and decent service. This is off my list, and should be off yours too!!! What a terrible and very unnecessary experience. What ever happened to restaurant etiquette that the customer is always right, or at the very least made to feel welcome and well taken care of!! This is a miserable service and dining experience fail !!!!!

Coming from an Indian, I must say this is some of the worst Indian food I have tasted period. We visited about a week or so after it opened and the food totally sucked. I should have expected that since its run apparently by some british expats that dont know a crap about Indian food. Worst of all we had the tandoori chicken and it was STALE!! Yuck. What should have clued me in was when my wife and daughter had to use the restroom for which you have to go through the kitchen. My wife noticed the packs of Shaan curry powder !! Thats about as lazy as a restaurant can get. Clearly they are mixing and prepping store-bought curry powder and it shows in the quality of the food. This restaurant comes highly recommended by a lot of people that clearly have no idea about what is and isn't authentic Indian food. You are must better off going to Cafe India, or better still driving all the way to Anarbagh in Woodland Hills.

They have great vegetarian food since they serve indian food after all! They also have a special lunch menu that is fantastic. It's in expensive, but lots of food. It comes with your dish, a side of rice, a side of salad garnish, and a side of peas and potato curry. The only problem is that is small so it's not good for groups. Plus, I've arrived for lunch on a work day and left because there was no where to sit.

Came to this place after looking for a place to eat on yelp, and once again yelp does not disappoint. It's a nice little restaurant located in a strip mall, kind of hidden. The restaurant had nice decor and good ambiance. The place wasn't that busy, maybe Indian food isn't very popular in Camarillo. I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine and have eaten at some pretty good places. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. I had the chicken Tandoori w/ grilled onions and peppers. It was a southern Indian dish, w/ southern Indian spices. It was very good, tender chicken and very flavorful. We ordered the basmati rice and the garlic naan which was also great. Their red and green sauce wasn't bad, but I've had way better. The rice and naan you have to order seperate, which is odd. It's the only Indian restaurant I've been to that it's not offered with the meal. The portions were decent. I also had the "gateway to India" beer which was pretty good. Overall, not a bad place for some quality Indian cuisine.

Went in for the first time tonight, and it was great! The staff were warm and very friendly, and the food was awesome. I started coming here during the lunch special hours since 5/09 a little after they opened. Made it a goal to try something new before the end of summer. The fresh ingredients and blend of flavors are so perfectly balanced. I'd recommend just about everything on the menu. My personal favorite is the roasted eggplant (Baingan ka Bharta). The owner, Sandy, and his wait staff are exceptionally pleasant. Lunch prices are very reasonable. If you go during dinner, be prepared for a la carte pricing.

AMAZING!!! The food is great. I've been here so many times and every experience has been great. The Chicken Tikka Masala is amazing and that the my one thing that I always get to compare to. And the price doesn't hurt either. A lunch special is around $8 and dinner is not that bad as well. All in all, if you live in Camarillo, come here to enjoy great tasting Indian food for prices that doesn't hurt your wallet.

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the area. Lucky for me it's just right down the street from my house. Considering this hidden gem is tucked away in a residential area, the place is always busy (definitely a good sign of great food), especially during lunch time. From the meat dishes like the lamb vindaloo and the tandoori chicken, to the vegetarian dishes like the beingan bharta, the sauces are outstanding, offering the perfect mix of spices, an incredible aroma, and intense flavor. The meat is cooked to perfection, not too tough and not too tender as to break apart once you sink your fork into it. The restaurant itself is small, yet inviting and very clean. The staff is courteous and very attentive to your needs even when the place is packed. Lastly, the prices are very reasonable considering what you get in terms of quality and quantity.

this place was really good, i've had aloo pratha's at other places, this was pretty good, but i am not Indian, so if you can find a better Indian food place in the 805, then please say so because I think this is the best Indian food I've ever had.

  • Stephanie E.

Yum! The yellow dahl and the aloo gobi are both 5 stars, as are the sauces that come with the delicious vegetable samosas. The rosemary naan was something new and fresh. My order for pick-up was ready in 10 minutes, and the food was fresh and light (sometimes indian food can be too heavy or greasy). Also, the take-out was NOT packaged in stryrofoam (an environmental nightmare)...so that is always a good sign. The only reason I am only giving this 4 stars is because I've only been there once....so may change my review after I've been there a few times. I'm definitely going back!

Before moving to Ventura county, I often ate dinner at the home of a neighbor who had moved here from southern India. She was a wonderful cook and introduced me to many dishes that I loved. I have tried lots of restaurants in Ventura and also the valley and have been pacified but never satisfied. And although I have had some wonderful meals in the Little India area of Norwalk, it is far and a bit difficult to navigate most menus if you do not read the language. Locally, I continually find indescript servings of food with very little variation in flavor or texture. The Curry Leaf had me planning my next visit after the first bite of lamb vindaloo. Yes, the servings were not huge, a plus in my book, it allowed us to also share a serving of biryani with chicken...amazing. We ordered the lamb samosa's but I was unable to eat another bite, and sent them home with my friend. I am looking forward to eventually eating my way through the entire menu.

We went to this place last week and we were not quite satisified with the food. First off, the papadam appetizer was stale. It no longer had a crunch to it. Not good for first impressions. Secondly, as mentioned in previous meat review, our choice of meat dish, the chicken tikka masala was on the dry side. We were disappointed since this favorite dish is what would make us come back if it was great. In all fairness, the aloo gobi and the dahl makni were both very good. The place is small and did not have a relaxing atmosphere. We had to wait just like others guests who came after us for a table. The owner's over friendliness was a bit contrived, I thought. Could not put a finger on it, but his actions as he was going around the floor talking to the same table over and over again and not going near other tables was a bit strange. He must be new in the customer service oriented type of business.
