Hubby and I stopped in here to get a break from the traffic and were very pleased. Fun atmosphere, great food and great salsa bar.

After about a week solid of complaining about Mexican grill overload in SoCal and especially in Ventura County, I'm not really sure what possessed me to eat at Olas Mex Grill, but I'm glad that I did. This is now my new favorite Mexican place in the sorta-close-to-me category. There were a lot of people there for lunch, but no semblance of a crowding problem because there was so much seating. The place definitely has a surfer theme, with various surfboards mounted on the wall, but more of an authentic one than a commercial one -- it generally looks like they've collected things as they've seen them and thrown them up somewhere in the place. They've also got a few well-positioned flat-screen TVs and wooden chairs with backs so high that I'd initially mistaken them for being upside-down like places put them at night. It's fast casual here, and the service is both very nice and very competent. It feels like the food's a little watery here in general, not meaning flavorless but that they made a conscientious choice to go a little wetter, even in the salsa bar. My wet chicken burrito also would have been soft even if I'd ordered it dry, because of the beans inside. The burritos are big, too, so you might have to resort to fork and knife, but it's worth it, in this case for the chicken itself. It was the star of the show -- a big, soft, shredded mess that worked beautifully with their style of burrito. They gave me a giant basket of chips, too, and theirs are great -- crisp enough to work well with the salsa bar, and with a nice, grainy signature quality.

If you're from the midwest you'll love this place, if you're from California you'll appreciate the atmosphere, but that's it. The owner is really nice, but the food taste like Captain America is making it.

Since I moved to Camarillo, it's always been an uphill battle trying to find a decent Mexican food place here. Nothing really authentic or great-tasting like the hole-in-the-wall places in Oxnard. This place is pretty decent. It's better than your average Baja Fresh or Chipotle. I almost always get the Carne Asada Chimichanga...WHICH IS MASSSSSSSIVE. If you're a light eater, plan on sharing this or taking it for leftovers. Since I'm a good eater, I can devour this thing in one sitting. They offer a pretty good salsa bar, with the usual mild (red or green), medium (black-chipotle) and hot (dark red). All are good. Prices are not too shabby. You get a lot of food for what you pay. Tacos are good, but I wish they would put onions and cilantro on them. Burritos are tasty. All in all, a good place to visit in Camarillo if you're too lazy to drive to Oxnard (i.e. Tacos la Costa and Taco de Mexico). - 1 star because they charge you $0.50 to pay with a credit or debit card, which I barely realized a week ago. Who charges nowadays for using credit cards? I can understand debit, but come on!!

Good food and portions. I had the Chili Verde Burrito Platter and it was great and more than I could eat with the rice and beans. All the chips and salsa bar you can eat also. A wide range of cold bottled beer and TV's to watch the games. I will eat here again

If you are looking for fast, filling and familiar California style casual Mexican food while driving through Camarillo, this is the place for you. After spending the morning in Zumma Beach at the Malibu Triathilon we took a nice drive North towards Point Magu (the Oxnard Ventura area). Passing through miles of farmlands we came up through old town of Camarillo from the North off Highway 1. We found a cute, busy, and semi tasty faux Mexican restaurant without searching too long and once inside saw tons of people and place that could have been down by the beach back in Malibu. I ordered the chile verde which came out kind of drippy and a on a messy plate. The GF had red-carnitas burritos which I did not care for too much. We both chowed down on semi tasteless chips, fairly decent salsa and soda, and the pooch sat in the car. She got to lick my face when we were finished - the dog, not my GF she's not into that! She seemed to be the most excited about the whole experience. One hoot! Two Ruffs!!

If you want some "white washed" mexican food then this the place to go... Went here for lunch with my BFF for Cinco de Mayo... to enjoy some tacos... dude I could've had better tacos at taco bell.... well not really but you get the point. The ground beef inside looked like it was from taco bell though... my other taco was chicken... straight tasted like it was just boiled and shredded.. no flavor... if it wasn't for their whack ass salsa bar I would've had a flavorless meal. The only thing I got out of that meal was gas and heartburn!!! LOL ... Nasty!!!

Great local place, good to bring a couple friends and have good mexican food and a couple beers. The food is good I love the wet burritos and the chicken tacos are awesome with the hot sauce in the squeeze bottle. Great atmosphere, who doesnt like to watch surf flicks while you eat?

I will never understand the hype of this place, I've been there like three times and it's medicore Americanized Mexican food. I hear such good things that I'll go every so often and I go and then remember why I never go. There are way better Mexican choices around, that's for sure... Unless of course you like bland food

    (1)
  • Brandon L.

Umhh, its ok. Not much creativity or even effort to provide any sort of unique taste to the food. I guess if your in camariillo it is a good mexican/although american food place. Overall, I would not go out of my way to eat here. I have been more than a couple times and never have been impressed. Just alright overall....

  • Jean S.

Great food! Wonderful salsa. Great fast place to get lunch. You order at the cashier and they bring it to your table. It's fast, and very reasonable. The food is wonderful. You'll never leave hungry!

  • M. D.

Great food and large portions. Lost a star for the order taker/cashier guy who seemed a bit annoyed by our couple of questions. It was our first time there and there was no line behind us so no need to be brisk. Not the cleanest place but we liked the food enough to go back for sure.

This place looks like a Wahoo's Fish Tacos, thanks to the TVs running skateboard footage and the surf/skate stickers on the wall. And that's all good -- but it just isn't as good as a Wahoo's. This is average Am-Mex food (Americanized Mexican). Not terrible, but you won't think about it later. The salsa bar has an excellent hot salsa that doesn't burn your face off (unless you end up drowning your food in it, which I did, but that's my own fault). We got burritos, and Husband was much smarter than I was -- he got his chicken burrito sans rice but with cheese, sneaky monkey, while I got a carne asada. The beef wasn't great, and the rice was just meh at best -- it tasted like the filler it was. Husband's burrito, though, was all white meat chicken. Now, that's not something you see every day, and I had severe burrito envy. Because here's the other thing -- you get a burrito, it's rice, beans, meat. The menu said I was supposed to get pico de gallo on mine, but I never saw it or tasted it if it was there. Sour cream and cheese are extra -- but what about onions, cilantro or tomatoes? My mouth got bored before my hunger was satisfied, and that's a sad statement. The food is cheap, but not so cheap I want to run back or anything. The bathrooms aren't particularly clean, but I didn't feel like it was a crime scene or anything BUT I will say we were there on a slow Sunday, so they probably had time to go in and mop up. Service was fine, if weighed down by "I am so bummed I'm working this weekend" ennui. If you need Mexican and you're in Old Town, sure. But don't go out of your way or anything. Unless you want a white meat chicken burrito. Dammit!

  • Julie L.

I come here for their soup. There are really good choices tortilla soup that you can add chicken to at no charge or Tuesday and Wednesday they have Albondigas. That's my fav. The meatballs are yummmmyyy! Every order comes with chips and tortillas. Oh and the salsa, the avacado salsa is goooood, mmmm my mouth is watering. The rest of the menu is good but nothing beats the soup for me.

I really don't have much to say about this place only that if you really want to get full you should come here, the food is good and the portions are huge so you can even split the plate for two people. Price is cheap for what you get the atmosphere is good and the staff is pretty friendly.

    (4)
  • Melissa T.

My goodness the portions here are huge!! And for a very reasonable price too! They sell chimichangas, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, taquitos, and more. They definitely top off a lot cheese on your meal. I ordered the special shrimp tacos; which were good. They had a spicy kick to it. Better bring cash with you, otherwise it's a $0.50 charge to use credit card. Their tables are sticky, they don't clean up well afterwards. There's only one table outside of the restaurant to eat. Great place to go when you're super hungry.

Good veggie burrito that can easily fill two people. Cute surf deco. Lots of yummy chips and salsa.

2 stars: Meh. I've experience better. I'm a diehard Wahoo's fan. This means that I generally support surfer food joints and tend to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their food quality and operational status. As other reviewers have mentioned, Olas has a credit card surcharge. There's a little note by the register stating as much. For being a laid back surfer spot, that nickel & dime attitude is a bit shocking. In this cashless society, credit card charges are downright silly, and probably in direct violation of their merchant account agreement. They really need to reconsider this type of mercenary behavior. Not cool. So, if you're a repeat customer, and been here a few times, there's a few bright spots. The chicken tacos are tasty. White meat, shredded, a nice amount of cheese and a crispy shell. Very nice with hot sauce. The ground beef is seasoned well. Not too salty, not too bland. Way better than Taco Bell or Del Taco. The taco salad in a big tortilla bowl is pretty safe bet as well. Their salsa bar has some decent salsas, but none of them are hot like I like salsa. But then again, in this gringo spot, who would expect a fiery salsa? The food is solid here. Greasy, white-ified Mexican food that hits the spot after surfing all morning. They've got beer. Lots of Mexican beers. So why the 2 stars? Let me end this review by saying that a couple years back, I'd have given Olas a solid 3*, but the shrinking portion size and rising prices irk me. When I first starting coming here, 2 chicken tacos were enough to fill me up. Over time, the taco shells starting getting smaller, and as the shells shrank so did the size of the plates, as if they were trying to fool people by preserving the same proportion of taco to plate size. But no one was fooled because instead of 2 tacos, I needed 3, then 4 tacos to fill me up. Skimping on the portions is a big no-no when it comes to hungry surfers. So 2 stars it is. Which is a shame, because I really want to like this place more.

My first review to one of the restaurants I am probably most loyal to. I grew up on great Mexican food. My family always gave me the top of the line, and my mother is probably the solo reason I am in to food in the first place. To say Olas is up to par with mom's cuisine would be an outright lie. But to say Olas is a good solid Mexican surf cafe would be fine by me. Olas keeps it seaside, inland style. It has become a fixture on Ventura Blvd in Camarillo, and since it became "Olas" from the sub-par "Yolandas", has kept me interested and always loving a visit. The chips and salsa are a great start to a wet burrito, crunchy tacos, or enselada. They are very generous with the cheese, which is good for some, and annoying for others, as well as the lettuce. Healthy size plates can curb your hunger, or smaller size entrees can give you a great mid afternoon snack. Great taste, tender meats, flavorful and authentic. They have a good sized beer selection for a restaurant of their nature, and a Pepsi fountain with Ice Tea for the caffeine addicts. Olas' attire has grown on me, but probably isn't the neatest or most pleasing to the eye. Banners, posters, surf boards, advertisements, murals and flat screen televisions cover just about every inch of the walls. The tables have always seemed wobbly to me, but I can't complain. As time has passed and the restaurant has gotten more popular it always seems to be lacking seating, and its lost the charm that it once had.

There's Mexican food and there's Mexican American food. On the sliding scale, Ola's leans more toward MA. And you know, sometimes, you're just in the mood for that! There are plenty of other choices in the area if you want to slide toward the other end of the scale. I've enjoyed Ola's since moving out to Camarillo three years ago. I've not been unhappy with anything I've ordered, although I see others have. It's understandable as everyone's taste is different. It's a place where I know I'll get substantial portions of food for a fairly reasonable price. (My recent excursion to El Tepeyac in ELA confirmed that Mexican food isn't always on the cheap as they charged $9 for 2 taquitos!) So far Olas is charging $7 for 3! Such a deal! The one significant downside is that when Olas is busy (which it frequently is), parking is gonna be a problem!!

I used to go to school at CSUCI and would eat here a few times a week. Over Christmas vacation I returned to my favorite Am-Mexican food place on the planet. The counter staff has always been friendly, they always get my order right, and the quality of the food is a lot of bang for the buck. The atmosphere is always stimulating enough to keep my seven year old nephew entertained yet not annoying if you want to have a relaxing lunch by yourself. The carne asada chimichanga is my go to dish, I crave it when I am in Boston and look forward to coming out west to have it.

Large portions, great in or take-out. Salsa bar is all you want.

i'll admit, this place is pretty fucking cute inside. but the food? NAH. i want real mexican food, not some freaken beach kid mexican food. sorry olas, but despite the fact that you're clean inside, i'd much rather eat some TDM in oxnard, dirty atmosphere included. if you want authenticity in camarillo, the closest thing would be Bobbi's.

in a perfect yelp world i would like to give this so called "mexican grill" a star and a half, but two stars it is becuase the food was definitely edible, just not enjoyable. the menu: not updated, as i was informed i couldnt order a certain type of taco that was clearly written on the menu above the cashiers head, who told me the menu was wrong. super, thanks. the food: not worth it. the awkward seating arrangement, bitchy service, and absurd high prices for anything extra, like a lousy half empty basket of chips, not worth it.

Great food! great prices!! love the atmosphere here as well.Their chicken chimichanga is a must!!! and you can definitely split it with someone it is so big and only about $6. cant beat that. highly recommend!

  • Melissa D.

We've eaten at Ola's for years. Low key and casual, it has a California beach vibe and is good for kids. Ambiance is what you'd expect - surfer decor, seat-yourself. Staff is friendly, mostly teens so you're not going to get 5-star service here. Quality of food is good - always fresh and plentiful, a great value for the price. In general, their red sauces (chile colorado, enchiladas, etc.) are better than their chile verde. Lots of TVs for the sports/boarding/surfing enthusiast. Great...now I'm hungry.....

    (4)
  • Melissa L.

One of the more "hip" places to eat in camarillo. its always busy but service is fast. It attracts the college crowd so its a fun place to relax and eat some good mexican food. not amazing prices but affordable. Recommend: Really good wet burritos and amazing Carnitas =)

  • Brian S.

Surfing and Mexican food DO go hand in hand. With surfboards and TVs hanging on the walls and ceiling, this local, family owned hang out is perfect for a family style meal that doesn't empty your wallet. You can tell some of the kids that work here were probably at the beach this morning surfing. Grab a Pacifico and munch on the chips and salsa while you wait for your food. Carlos, the owner will greet you at the counter and take your order. He has kids, so you can get a milk and quesadilla pretty quick. My wife's favorite is the Carne Asada. I like the tacos. Nothing fancy, just tastes good. It might be hard to find a table on the weekends since it is open seating.

First.......one needs to understand this place. It's one of those hidden, whole in th walls that all the locals go to. Like something that would be on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". Right....you get it now. Lets talk about a value. You will not over pay. The chimichonga(sp) is huge and flavorful with shredded chicken (not those gross chunks of chicken at lesser places.) This place has the best salsa bar. I like the guacamole salsa. It is Mexican/American. They are very generous with any request you may have. The owners walk around to make sure everyone is happy. We don't live in the area but, whenever we drive pass, this is our stop. You have to love this place for what it is. It is not one of those uncreative, pretentious, chain restaurants. I never understood why people are suckered into those places. I guess it's just that most people are sheep. Enjoy this place. It's a casual, happy, tasty, enexpensive find.

  • Arsenio V.

This place is definitely on my A list. It's sort of my go-to guy in the clutch when I'm feeling a Mexican craving. The burritos are good, the tacos are good, and the cheese and sauce toppings come in mounds. My fan favorite from this place is the carne asasda burrito. Sometimes I like it wet, that's what she said! okay, we won't go there, but seriously if your in the area, or a local, this place will make your appetite surrender and your wallet still feel full!

    (4)
  • Christopher S.

Not all of the items here are amazing, but the ones that are truly make up for the others. Stay away from the chimichangas, which are mediocre. The tacos are great here, and the quesadillas are absolutely amazing. For a first-timer, I would highly suggest the carnitas quesadilla.

    (4)
  • Brandi C.

Had the fish tacos here & was not impressed! Very bland & it had lettuce & cheddar. I like cabbage & queso fresco. Okay if you like more american mexican food.

    (2)
  • Brian B.

I cannot believe this restaurant has 4 stars. This is probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The beef has no flavor. The rice had a really strange taste. The salsa bar is just a waste of space; no variety at all. Out of my family of four, my youngest son was the only one to finish even half of his meal. That's because he had the chicken fingers and fries off of the kids menu. My oldest son barely touched his. Partly because he found a HAIR in it! Not to mention the place is filthy. Maybe if the staff spent a little more time trying to run a successful restaurant, rather than standing around bs-ing with their friends, I would think about going back. As it stands, I'll never eat here again!

    (1)
  • Charity K.

I would have to rate Olas as pretty average. There was nothing particularly bad about it but there was nothing really great about it either. The decorations were my style - surf's up, man, and they had numerous TVs with all sorts of extreme sports shows on, which I like. We were in a rush because of a meeting I had at work, but the service was fast enough to get us in and out. They serve Pepsi instead of Coke, which is a bummer but ok. I got one cheese enchilada, rice, and beans. I am not convinced the beans didn't have some sort of meat base to them because they tasted funny, but I didn't actually ask. Though I didn't feel particularly great a bit later, but that could have just been a coincidence. I definitely didn't feel awful. The enchilada was extremely cheesy. Nothing had that much flavor, and the chips were just average. I heard they used to have really good chips. My coworker's chimichanga (is that what it is called?) was HUGE, and my other coworker's tacos plate was actually a really good size as well. They had a good selection of both salsa and food options, and we all felt satisfied afterwards. I would go to Olas again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had ventured away from the norm.

This place is amazing. My favorite place to eat. The bean and cheese wet is the best!

    (5)
  • Brandon S.

If you like big, cheesy burritos, then this is the place. The Chile Verde wet burrito with sour cream and guacamole is one of my favorite meals anywhere. I usually can't eat the whole thing in one sitting and it only costs $6.00. My only complaint is that Ola's can be hit or miss. I've had a couple of mediocre meals there, but usually it's spot on. Also, they do go heavy on the cheese and if you don't get something that has it is melted all over it, the cheese can be a little bit too much.

    (4)
  • Tom G.

The people that eat here do not know what Mexican food should taste like. I could only recommend this place if you love cheese and greasy food. Otherwise, keep driving to Oxnard where there are decent Mexican restaurants.

    (1)
  • Darren W.

Big fan of this place. I work long hours and have a family to feed. Olas is quick, affordable, and pretty good food. No doubt, it's gringo mexican so keep some tapatio ready to go, but I've never heard any complaints. This is also our #1 spot for chips and salsa in Camarillo. We buy the big bag and a large salsa and snack on it for a week or so.

    (4)
  • Brian M.

Always good food. Hot sauce is the best too. We try to go during non peak hours because especially on the weekend (if it's packed) you'll have to wait. (once waited 30+ minutes for 2 plates) 4-5 tables outside but traffic noise too loud sometimes. Lots of tv displays with skating/surfing/ball games. A friend had them 'cater'. Had to keep reminding them what our order/event date was. Nothing was ever written down. No hot trays as promised, only aluminum foil covered trays. Great for a meal but only there. Parking limited and spaces are tight. We go about every other week.

  • Nathan G.

I have been a few times before but today I was double charged for my drink. I probably could have brought it up and gotten my $1.60 back but it wasn't that important, just watch your receipts everyone. Seating is okay, it gets crowded during lunch hour and parking is horrible so my suggestion is go at 11 or 1. The food itself is average. I've had better and I've had worse, though the helpings are pretty generous and the chips and salsa are nice too. Oh and there is a .50 cent credit card fee so bring cash.

    (3)
  • Michael A.

If you're very hungry and need a lot of food this is the place to go. The servings are big and the burritos aren't too bad either.

  • mick k.

Great Mexican food. Worth making the trip for their great taquitos, nachos, burritos and mini tacos. Decent beer selection from south of the border. The Salsa Bar is the best around. Everything on the menu is fabulous. We love the casual atmosphere. Order at the desk and find your own table. Lunch time gets crowded but worth the wait.

    (5)
  • Lance C.

These guys no wet burritos! Different from the average mexican food joint, this one is done up surfer style. Plasma screens cover the walls with looped videos of surf, skate, and extreme videos. The owner's are cool, and the food is always fresh and hot. Ask for the free bean dip for you chips.

    (4)
  • GABRIEL A.

I have been watching Hell's Kitchen and chef Ramsey is big on keeping kitchens clean. Olas has to have the most filthiest restrooms and floor I have ever seen, except when I was at the Tijuana whore house when I was experimenting as a youth. Olas clean your floor and and wash your walls; there is grease everywhere. I can only imagine what your kitchen looks like. Food is decent, but for the love of Clorox, clean that place up. You have to have respect for your self and having clutter and dirt is not proper.

    (2)
  • Jack B.

Its fast and cheesy. Veggie burrito is very good wet. Awesome salsa. Fuel, OLN and good surfing videos playing on all the TVs. Order the bean dip with your chips, it's pretty awesome. So is the salsa. Only bad part is seating can be tight, parking is hard to find and that they charge 50 cents to use a credit card. Everybody is pretty laid back and friendly that work there.

We've tried Olas finally for the last time. We've been there a couple times and have have some bad experiences with food not being prepared right. We even sat and watched one of the plates that belonged to our party sit up at the kitchen window for 10 minutes when even else had their food delivered already. Our last straw was a take out order. We had ordered a chimichanga without cheese and sourcream because husband is lactose intollerent. When I went in to pick it up, I asked the counter attendent if it indeed didn't have cheese and sourcream, she confirmed with the kitchen that it did not have cheese or sourcream inside. When I got it home and he opened it up it had everything inside that we didn't want. I think there was a language barrier between the kitchen staff and the counter staff because I saw the whole conversation and yet they were wrong. We live on the Channel Islands Campus and that is a 15 minute drive to go back to fix it. After our last few visits we were both livid. Called and no manager on duty - staff said he would be back in an hour and would call us. He never called but we called him. We believe him to be the owner and not just a manager. He really didn't seem to care about our past bad experiences there but did say that he would refund us the amount back onto our credit card. If you want this style of food in Camarillo, try Snapper Jack's instead.

Decent taco shop in downtown Camarillo. It's white wash Mexican food with a beachy vibe. I don't mind it just worth mentioning If your expecting something else with the name "olas". Pricing is good for what you get and the service is fast, even when they are packed with long lines I feel they deliver quickly. It's one of those places that I feel like theirs something for everyone. White wash in the sense that there isn't anything too spicy or overly complicated, yet flavorful and large portions. Food 4 stars! There carnitas are Darn good! Great burritos, tacos, and nachos. Also I appreciate the wide variety of drinks and beers :)

    (4)
  • Todd O.

Everyone loves Olas! Not the place you go because your dying for the best Mexican but where you go for the friendly local Mexican joint probably to take the kids as they fill up on starchy decent Mexican fare for a good price while you enjoy the great beer list. I sound sarcastic, which I am most times but I'm serious in this one. I recommend!

I come here almost every time I go to the beach with friends. After becoming vegetarian I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy their delicious burritos as much, but the no meat burrito is equally as amazing. I always get it wet! Just come ready to eat because the portions are huge.

This restaurant is location in old town Camarillo and stands alone. I used to come here with a few friends from school back in 2008 and I finally got a chance to bring my hubs last month. This restaurant definitely attracts a lot of surfers and really anyone who loves Mexican food. I've always stuck to my fav dish - cheese enchiladas. They do not skimp on cheese but rather they drown the enchiladas in cheese, so if you're looking for less fat / sodium, I highly recommend skipping this dish. I also like to get the combo plate so I can have a bite of the cheese enchilada, rice and beans. My hubs ordered the special burrito I believe it was called on the combo menu and was a little shocked by the size of it. Not to mention, he didn't read the full description of the burrito.. So he was slightly bummed. The burrito he ordered was stuffed with just ground beef and slathered with the enchilada sauce on the outside. It was a pretty massive all beef burrito and a bit too much salt for him, so he ended up not being able to finish it. He really enjoyed the rice and beans and said it was one of the better ones he's had. They also had a salsa bar and give you complimentary chips when you order. The salsas that we tried all had a kick and it was probably one of the spicer ones I've tried. To be honest, I haven't tried anything else on the menu but I might next time I go in.

Nope, not really. A total miss! First of all, everything is DRENCHED in cheese. It's almost as though that's all that's on the plate. I got an a la carte plate of a tamale, a taco, and chile relleno. The chile was small and mostly breading unlike the ones I'm used to. The tamale was alright, but appeared to be store bought rather than made in house. The taco was, again, mostly cheese, with some chile verde meat in the bottom. I can't stress enough that the entire thing was covered in a layer of melted cheese. Also, the portions here are WAY too big! Everything is HUGE. I don't want to be bombarded with food, especially bland food that's covered with cheese to mask its blandness. I'd rather have a little bit of something good. So yeah, if you like cheap cheese, then this is the place for you, perhaps, but if you have a taste for fine cheeses or just want the meat to speak for itself, I would definitely avoid this place. 2 stars because I didn't get sick.

Just to add to my experience, the chile verde tostada and chicken enchiladas are always on point, but I tried their chile relleno for the first time and it did not live up to the rest of their menu. The ratio was totally backwards...it was about 75% egg batter and 25% Chile and cheese. By the time I was done I left what looked like an omelette on my plate. I'm keeping the five stars because everything else I've had has been delicious, hearty, and well priced. Also, they have very friendly, courteous busboys/girls.

This place never gets old and is a staple in my diet.. Healthy and Freshly prepared food will leave you feeling satisfied for the day.. Great after a good surf... Or with the family.. Have a bro fest with an array of beers from Costa Rican Beers to Tahitian.. And local favorite like 805.. Guac is fresh AF so get down and happy grubbin!

Tired from shopping? How about some hardy Mexican food? Parking: street parking and a small parking lot on the side. Food: We highly recommend the guacamole! It was really fresh and delicious. They give free chips and they had a salsa bar. I got the number 10 combo, which includes a chicken enchilada, a pork tamale and I asked for a potato taco. The rice was really tasty and the tamale was really good. The potato taco was a tad bit bland. Alvin ordered a chicken wet burrito, it was huge! This place was tasty and prices were good, our meal came out to be around $18.50.

Two stars for the crap attitude from the employees. We eat here all the time and it wasn't the first time I've gotten a bad attitude. We phoned in our order and was told it would be 10 minutes. After waiting 40 minutes I asked if my order was ready. The bad attitude employee girl grab my food that was sitting behind her and drop it on the counter and walked away. After I asked why it was just sitting there I got two dirty looks like I said something wrong. She says it's a phone order and didn't know you were here. But I paid her money for the order. Food gets 3 stars. White people Mexican food at best. I won't be coming here anytime soon.

We had a dry carne asada burrito and a chicken chimichanga. Yummy! My husband didn't want the rice and bean in the burrito so he told the cashier but said on the side and they charged about $1.50 for each. But if he knew he just wouldn't have gotten it. And he couldn't put his finger on what ingredient was missing from his asada burrito (he had added poco de gallo, sour cream and guacamole). There is an up charge for the guac and sour cream, but most restaurants do that. My chimichanga was awesome and HUGE!!! I think we could have shared it. And it was perfect. The place can use a little bit more upkeep but it was busy on a Saturday afternoon and I noticed they also had a lot of to go orders too. Anyway, we will definitely be going back again.

Foods fairly good, but it's kinda American Mexican. I guess if surfing is you thing it's a fun place, but there are much better in Camarillo. Service is hit and miss.

Was on my way to the outlets and did not want to eat there. Was craving Mexican food and took out my cell and went straight to Yelp. Found this great place and loved it. The service was great and the food was even better. I got a ground beef taco and a ground beef enchilada with rice and beans. It was just $8.00. The taco and enchilada was full of tasty meat. I will definitely go there again.

Good food but it's small and crowded and they have weird rules like don't save seats till after you've ordered....and their not open on Monday or Tuesday, um taco Tuesday!!! Guess not. People who work here are hit or miss, sometimes I come across the really nice ones or the rude ones. They use to give military discount then all of a sudden stopped too, seems like they're always changing something. But at least the food is the same, good!

Ola's is hit and miss! My husband and i have tried just about everything on the menu. The chicken and pork dishes are delicious! However, they burn the shredded beef ! The shredded beef tacos and nachos are not good. You taste the burn on the meat. The chips are usually stale! The lines are long on the weekends and the staff does not monitor them. People waiting in line actually get in the way of those eating at tables! We have given up on Ola's. Better Mexican food exists! .

Tried 1 last time. Me: "the prices online say your Carne asada burrito is $10.70." stoner: "nah, they're like 5 bucks, dude." me: "so, what's my total?" Stoner: "beats me, I can't use the register. It's like 12,13, 15 bucks." Hey Owner, WAKE UP!!! Imagine what you could achieve if you gave a good God Damn. Yelp really needs a less than 1 star option. A pile of poop with eyes would be appropriate, more wrong with this place than right.

I've been coming to Olas for years since they first opened and it's always been great. Unfortunately, the last three times we have come (which is become increasingly less frequent), the experience has been spoiled by the "manager." I've had the displeasure of seeing this guy every time and missed the owner, Carlos. This "manager" stomps around with an attitude, acts as if the smallest request is putting him out, and generally makes us feel unwelcome. I've seen other mention of the poor service and attitude from this guy (grayish hair & goatee). My family and I are about at our wits end with what used to be our favorite restaurant! It pains me to only give two stars as the food is still good but the service needs to change or this guy is going to drive away more business than just ours.

I've been to this establishment a handful of times for lunch or dinner. I find myself torn between enjoying the place or completely unimpressed. I'm pretty consistent with my order of the enchilada (cheese) and taco (potato) combo plate. On the other hand they are usually received in an inconsistent fashion. I've gotten plates covered in cheese where I can't make out the taco from the enchilada. Corn tortillas that are just folded in half smothered in cheese or a perfectly plated entrée. Although I do enjoy the potato taco, it is typically a bit soggy from marinating in the oodles of cheese. The beans seem to waver from edible to inedible. This is the main reason I haven't strayed from my standard order, because I would hate to receive wonky beans in a burrito. This place is not for a person with strict dietary habits, because it gets pretty filthy with the cheese and large servings. I'm conscious of the fact this place is trying to have that laid back vibe, but often times it looks a little to chill (I also understand Mexican establishment's shouldn't be to polished). The salsa bar often looks like it has been pillaged and I'm even talking set out like that when Ola first opens the doors in the morning. Bussing of tables seems like a leisure activity. The interaction with the staff has always been enjoyable. I'm really not sure if I will return or not. Either way it's a solid three.

First experience here today and the food was above what I expected. Peoples burritos looked HUGE. I ended up with a shrimp tostada salad which was very good.... Salad came almost immediately! Love getting my food fast after a long line. Salad was actually great. I like my salads with a bit of grilled peppers, and a touch of beans so this was right up my alley. The tostada was the major stand out. I rarely find myself eating the tostada, but it was super flakey and the salsa was way above par. I destroyed that salad. Quick. The experience is very much that of a fast food restaurant. Think In-N-Out. Very little space, people jockeying for seats, quick and good food. I did see a couple of people having to clear their own tables both while smiling/cringing/looking for help. Busy, but not that busy. The staff is slow. Lucky I ended up with a shrimp toatada salad, though. Although it was listed on the menu I had checked online/it wasnt on the board in store. The gentleman (not) who appeared to be the owner at the counter, had an attitude when my girlfriend ordered it. Going as far as saying "these are our fish items" and throwing/tossing a menu at her....I may be back. Just not soon.

Oh Olas. What can I say about you?! You never cease to please and amaze my taste buds. Had a work lunch here last Friday and I had both (yes, it was my cheat day so don't judge) the taquitos (such great guac) and the cheese enchilada (can't wait to have this again). I killed it and it was totally delicious. I've enjoyed their street carne asada tacos and their street potato tacos as well--these are both great selections I would recommend them to anyone!! The salsa bar is totally awesome and now they have a mango salsa?!? My gosh!!! Go here. It's delicious.

Yelpers got it right with this place. We were leaving the Camarillo outlets and wanted mexican food and I saw this place had four stars and the food looked good. It was clean, there were plenty of open tables and televisions all around. You can also sit outside. We ordered at the counter and they gave us a number as they bring your food to the table. I ordered carnitas chimichanga with everything that included lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream And cheese with beans and rice on the inside and he ordered a ground beef taco and enchilada plate which comes with beans and rice as well. We also ordered two fountain drinks and all this came out to $19.36. (He ordered extra cheese and tomatoes) the portions were huge. They give chips and there is a nice size salsa bar. My only complaint, while the chips were very good, they were cold. The food was delicious, the meat for everything was well seasoned. The place was clean and the service was good. This may become a regular stop after shopping. Good food at a reasonable price.

The best Mexican food in camarillo!!!!! I came here for the first time last night...and the only thing I'm disappointed about is not coming here sooner! Everything everyone ordered looked amazing, the portions are plenty, and everything is FRESH! I'm truly impressed by their salsa bars 'verde' sauce. Literally the BEST verde I've ever had!!!!!! I got their carne asada burrito....when I was done I bought another for today's lunch. Great restaurant and awesome good!! I love finding these diamonds in camarillo

Great food, huge portions and reasonable prices. The carne asada and chicken burritos are the best. I live 30 minutes away and drive all the way to this place for good food. Nothing beats it.

I've been frequenting Olas since it opened. All of the food is really yum but the Fish Tacos are amazing. Large portion of fish, lettuce, pico, cheese, slice of lime. I get two Tacos Al A Cart for $5.00 Try and beat that!

Stopped by with Yelp friend James R. and friends after a great surf session at Mondos on Sunday 10/6. We arrived about 11am so opted for lunch verses breakfast. I have been here for breakfast before as well, and their breakfast is great. Sunday though, was an early lunch. I ordered a two chicken taco combination and was pleasantly surprised to received two shredded chicken tacos with tender, juicy, and well seasoned meat. The rice and beans were excellent as well, and were obviously prepared without any lard. They provided chips and a nice sized bowl for use at their salsa bar. The mango salsa was so good. At least three others commented that it was so good you could just drink it straight. This is a great local surfer eatery and is decorated with surfboard and video screens showing various surf videos. The walls are decorated with lots of photographs of local surfers and clubs and nice posters of past contests. The owner and his family are on site and the difference is in the food and service. Olas is a definite return visit.

Me and girlfriend have been eating at this place at least once a week for the past few months that I've been living in Southern California. Love the surf videos while eating my food. I have to say the portions are big. You get a lot to eat for the price. (They don't overcharge) Which is the way Mexican food should be. I've found that other Mexican restaurants in this area tend to charge more just cause they can...And they have the same quality or just down right mediocre food. I should mention there is a lot of down to earth good people that work there too. Very good service for not having to leave a tip at the table. And their beers are only 2-3 bucks a bottle too! Try this place if you're debating where your wanting to eat! I promise you won't regret it

    (5)
  • Kevin W.

The food is kind of generic Mexicali fare, but they do it well. The best part is the cheap prices and ridiculously enormous portions. Unless you're a competitive eater, plan on taking some leftovers home. Don't forget about the salsa bar. They also have a pretty decent beer selection.

    (4)
  • Adam W.

Shabby and mediocre from top to bottom. Either this part of Camarillo is starved for legitimate Mexican options (likely), or I hold up my food to an entirely different standard. This place does tend to fill up, so it must have something that keeps people coming back----possibly the price, which is very reasonable. But for the quality, this is nowhere near a 4-star establishment.

  • Sarah J.

I was always an Olas fan but they have gone downhill. If takes about 30 minutes from the time you actually order until you receive your to go order. The cook that made my burrito included tons of extra chicken juice so I tortilla was a wet mess by the time I got back to work (7 min drive). I paid for cheese and guacamole and both were missing from my burrito. The chips tasted like they were leftover from yesterday. They changed the lay out so everyone has to wait in the very front to order, for the salsa bar, to pick-up orders, and to get your drink. Most people were waiting in the wrong line so at least you have some entertainment as you wait for your soggy burrito.

This place I found on yelp and thought I would give it a try. I was really craving tacos and it was Taco Tuesday, so I figured I would give it a try and was really impressed. I posted a picture but I got the number two combination of two asada tacos with rice and beans. The service was really quick and fast which was really surprising considering it was a little busy. Compared to other Mexican restaurant or probably wasn't the most authentic but definitely great. They were friendly, quick, reasonable with price and their location was easy to locate, which is why I am giving them five stars.

A surf themed Mexican restaurant? Just about as odd as an Elvis themed Mexican restaurant (PS - An Elvis themed Mexican restaurant really DOES exist), but the place is still pretty amazing. Their food portions were bigger than I expected (I got a burrito with carne asada [grilled steak] and rice)! In fact, the portions were so huge, I did not get to finish my burrito on how big it was. That burrito was just tasty to perfection! Their salsa bar had plenty of awesome tasting salsa to dip my nachos into. There's a sign on the bar that says "Do not use your water cup," even though I've used that much salsa with the little cups to dip the nachos into (they do refill nachos). Parking is pretty limited, which is the only downfall that I can think of. This could be frustrating when I want to come here but the place gets so busy that all the parking spaces get taken. Aside from the parking issue, this Mexican restaurant is the best I've found in Ventura County so far.

$16 for three people to get very full on (two) delicious (vegetarian) burritos and chips and guac? Sounds good to me.

  • Cynthia A.

This place never fails when I'm looking for a cheap bite after class! (Both a la carte) $2.80 buys you a carne asada taco. $2.60ish buys you a chicken enchilada. Get some chips and ask for a water cup and you have a decent size meal! They're closed on Mondays but it's ok I think I'll survive. Btw they love to pile on the cheese, so if your arteries need a break even asking for a lite amount of cheese might not be enough. You'll still have a small hill of cheese instead of a mountain.

Came here last Thursday for a quick lunch on the suggestion of a friend. The menu was expansive and there was almost too much to choose from. I opted for the carne asada tacos. The tacos were filled with an abundance of well seasoned meat and cheese and the tortillas were fresh and hot. The beans and rice were also good. There is a salsa bar with several different salsas to choose from. The mango salsa was a favorite of mine. One of my group ordered a dry bean and cheese burrito. It was fairly large and stuffed full. She took half home to enjoy later. The restaurant is decorated in a surf theme and there are surf boards hanging around and surf videos on the TV. There is plenty of seating and the prices are reasonable. Definitely will return to try some of the other menu items!

I ate here around 830 at night, so I am sure the lack of ambiance made my overall rating lower than what I had wanted to put when I first read the reviews. I ordered the number 10, which I figured would be a nice, filling meal. While I loved the chicken taco and shredded beef enchilada, the tamale left a lot to be desired. I always hate when I give an average review, so I am hoping my next experience will be much better when I come through town again.

  • Kym B.

With 187 reviews and counting, I don't really know what else to add that hasn't already been said! Olas offers tasty food at reasonable prices. It's a good place for kids. There are veggie options. The salsa bar rocks. It's always loud and crowded. I had the fish tacos and they made up for the low quality fish (you know when fish has a bunch of sort-of greasy brown areas? yeah, that) with REALLY tasty seasoning and perfect cooking. In short, they made up for the quality of the fish by the delicious way it was cooked and served. This is a no-frills joint and it does what it does well. Go get some.

I'm not sure why I didn't like this place when I was in high school, but I was a fucking idiot so who cares. For Camarillo's standards (Tapatio, Establos, Potrillos, Bobbi's, etc.), Ola's has a pretty solid salsa bar. I'm sure there's better salsa bars in Oxnard, but I like bomb Mexican food without feeling like I'm in Mexico so fuck Oxnard.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Huge portions requiring a take home box. The tostada plate was a crisped tortilla, mounds of tender shredded white meat chicke, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and chunky guacamole. The above average refried beans on the side were excellant. Their salsa bar has a really nice not too chunky salsa that went well with my meal. Funny sign on the salsa bar, "do not use your water cup"!!! Actually, I do think I used that much it was so good! Hubby's burrito was jam packed with a well spiced ground beef ( you can choose other meats) cheese and covered in a not too spicy wet sauce. Rave reviews from his seat. Our tab for the two meals and drinks with a bowl of chips a and salsa war $20!! Pleasant tab! Judging by the crowd on a Saturday late morning, locals know this gem well. It was nice after a big meal like that to have parked in old town Camarillo and walk the great shops, Saturday bustling farmers market. Enjoyable way the start the weekend.

This place is amazingly delish. Had beef tacos and enchilada. Rice is awesome and so are beans. The real kicker is the delicious salsa bar. Bf had the Carne asada taco and taquitos. Again. The meat quality was great...no fatty pieces. Got a side of grilled jalepenos which were nicely cut and make sure to get a side of bean dip for only 25 cents. U won't regret it. So happy for this small family owned business. I love seeing quality mexican places that do the basics and do them well!!!! I will definitely be back!

Love this Place! Carne Asada Taco and Beans and Rice was delicious. Cheese Enchilada and Chile Relleno was good. Everything was great. Portions are massive. most people cant finish there plates. Was not disappointed when I came here.

Really good vibe and the place is always hustlin. Maybe for a reason. I enjoy what I eat every time I come here. Prices are very reasonable and the decor is decked out with surfing related props and pictures. Give this place a try you won't be disappointed. They sell beer here as well.

I went in last week to get a paper menu since we had a party of 10 to order for that night. The lady said no menus go online to see. So we did. It turned out to be very disappointing for each person, not only are the prices wrong up to a dollar fifty per order but the orders said they came with rice and beans...which none of us got. The lady was rude and mislead us. Not good business.

I first came to Olas several years ago. A buddy brought me here after we went surfing, and I was instantly hooked!! These guys have BIG burritos, you can also get any burrito wet for a nominal charge. I seem to alternate between the carne asada and the shrimp burrito when I come here. Olas is busy on the weekends and the dining room is noisy. They have tv's but you wont be able to hear what is on it. They do serve beer, but no other alcohol. I would reccomend Olas to everyone who is looking for a hearty burrito!!

Stopped here after a long day shopping at the Outlets, my girl and I where craving some Mexican food, after reading some good reviews we decided to try it out and boy where we happy we did, this place was effen delicious! great food and portions we where like wow, we couldn't finish we where so stuffed lol plus the prices here are great! Service was also awesome. Cool atmosphere too like a Hawaiian beach style Mexican restaurant with cool classic rock music playing! Will definitely come back here soon when we come back to the Outlets!

I have eaten from here a couple different times. It's a bargin! Food prices are reasonable, and you get a lot of food for you money. I am a taco lover, so I tried the grilled fish tacos, the chicken tacos and the potato taco! The potato taco was so unique and came on a thin, crunchy, freshly fried corn tortilla. It was so good! The chicken tacos were so filling and delicious as well! The fish taco was so-so, but by no means bad. They have a salsa bar, which is awesome, because you get a wide variety of colorful toppings to choose from, including onions, cilantro, etc. They have a mango salsa, which is really sweet, a mild, a hot, an avocado salsa, etc. And one of my favorite things about Ola's is they have some of the most nostalgic/hard to find sodas from my childhood. They have Squirt, A&W Cream Soda, etc.

  • Lindsey D.

Love the surf theme of this place but most of all the food is bomb!!! Burritos are HUGE and easily can be shared. Also the 2 fish taco plate (with rice and beans) is large enough to share too! (Husband and I found out the hard way haha) love the avocado sauce at the salsa bar-YUM! Only complaint I have (and it's a very very minor one) is the chairs are not comfortable. And awkward!!

Came here last week after a hike and had a great experience. We didn't realize they closed at 8 and at 8:30 they let us order our tacos and sit and relax. I've been coming here for years, finally decided to give a review.. I always get the chimichanga with either asada or chicken.. Took my girlfriend with my cousin for there first time and they enjoyed it just as much as I do... Only bad thing is the salsa never tastes fresh, other then that plates are always fresh.

Great place to eat after long day of shopping. The nachos I ordered were filled with delicious food . You get a lot a lot of food for the little money you pay for. The nachos were $8 and covered in meat . The only thing about this place it has its restrooms pretty close to the dining area which it's not always a pleasant to see or smell. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Overall I enjoyed my meal at this place. will highly recommend for anyone that is seeking on venturing to taste the delights of mexican food.

I've been here many times usually for lunch but decided to come for a quick dinner. The food is consistently good and the atmosphere is nice, especially if you are into surfing which I am not. I ordered the two cheese enchiladas combo and was disappointed when my meal came and it was actually ground beef enchiladas. Although I could have taken it back and had them fix what I actually ordered, I decided just to keep what I got and not waste a perfectly good meal. I was also in a bit of a hurry so it is what it is. I would have given four stars had I actually received what I ordered. Olas is not the best in town, IMO, but good if you want a step up from fast food. Will be back again.

Love this place! My girlfriend and I go here all the time, the burritos are always big and the beers are cheap. The only downside I can think of is that it's so popular, the place is always busy. A must visit camtown hole in the wall.

Yep. Fresh, homemade, salsa bar, cold beer, quick service. The efficiency with which this place whips out inexpensive, delicious food speaks volumes for the management. Extremely friendly. Looking for a pleasant place to grab some quick Mexican grub, go here! My wife wants me to say the rice and beans are outstanding. Done

Come for the surf videos and the environment. The servings are a good size and the salsa bar is extensive. Now, if you seek authentic mexican then reconsider your options. If you seek hearty servings of tex mex and mango salsa with chips then you're right at home. Carlos is happy to be there and is friendly after you break the ice.the food is above Taco Bell but do not expect any cabeza tacos or authentic seasonings beyond the realm of Chevys or snapperjacks

Carnitas Nachos. Holy freakin' GOD! I was in Heaven. Very rarely do I get this excited about food, but I love Mexican food and I FREAKIN' loved these nachos. PLUS, I think they were under $7 for a plate I continued to enjoy for dinner, and lunch the next day. Delicious local beers available ice cold. You can't miss. Ola's is spanish for 'awesome.'

We've been eating here since we moved to Old Town 6 years ago & have always loved their food. The last two times my burrito (I always get the same thing) wasn't quite as good. We'll certainly try again, we prefer to support local businesses and their patio is dog-friendly.

Most awesome chimichanga I've had in recent times! It was huge gigantic enormous flavorful and stuffed with lots of good stuff I had ordered grilled chicken and they were kind enough to accommodate me because typically they put shredded chicken in burrito/ chimichangas. They stuffed a lot of food and meat in my chimichanga and made it to perfection. For some $7 odd bucks ( after taxes!) I got a massive meal which I could not finally finish in spite of the fact that I love huge portions and I was freaking hungry when I reached here. This is a family owned business and the teenaged children who serve there are very very sweet children and I am highly appreciative of their wonderful service, excellent food, very low prices and enormous ( monster sized!) portions. If you are in Camarillo or close by and hungry for scintillating mex food, don't waste your time anywhere, just come in here!

Amazing wet burritos, tacos, tostadas, and nachos. Can't go wrong with this amazing surf grub style Mexican grill!

Awesome , surf boards hanging , video's playing. I like to stop hear after a surf session in this area.

It's been a while since I have been here. Fugured I had time before work. I either get an asada burrito or carnitas burrito with no beans...wet. Best way to properly enjoy it. Always satisfied. Inexpensive and worth the price. Try it and see for yourself :-)

Food is so fresh here. Nice and hot too. The food is full of flavor and it's one of my favorite hot spots to eat. I usually get the taco plate with rice and beans. The ground beef tacos are seasoned perfectly

I enjoyed the food here. I had a huge craving for a shredded beef burrito and guess who had it? Yes, after searching all over, I found it and it didn't disappoint. Also got their chile verde chimichanga , it was huge and oh so good. Can't wait to have it again.

If you don't mind dirt with your surroundings your fine. The floors and walls are really dirty. But the food is good

Number 11 everytime. They are just so good! The salsa is a bit lacking, but it gets the job done. 4.9 overall. Besides the salsa the food is a 5 and the service is never anything less than stellar.

The food was really good- but the place is dirty. After sitting at the table receiving excellent service I began to notice dirt on the walls, floor and on the trash cans. I won't be back...

Super large portions for a very reasonable cost. I got the chicken tostada and couldn't even finish 1/2 of it because it was such a large portion. The salsa bar was a big hit for my husband and he loved his tacos. The only thing I found a little strange was it's surfer theme since it's not really that close to the water, but whatever...good food so who cares about the decorations.

Olas is located at the edge of old town Camarillo. Parking isn't hard to find, there are stalls located all along the edge of old town and in front of the restaurant. Olas is decorated with lots of stickers and has a beachy, mexican divey feel. There are lots of table and its always packed with a decent amount of people. The customer service is okay and our food came out fast. My friend who is a regular here ordered for us, and got us a wet shredded beef burrito. The sauce that they put on the burrito was so salty and I didn't end up eating even half of the burrito. The chips were okay, but I just don't see the hype. With establos down the road, i'd rather head there if i'm craving Mexican food.

  • Shane H.

Chimichanga with half chicken and half steak is out of this world! Salsa bar is no joke either, their "hottest" salsa kicked my butt but I love the fact that it isn't just a plain salsa bar with your standard mild, milder, and mildest salsas.

Tbh, if you go here and you live in Camarillo or anywhere in the surrounding area, go to a more authentic Mexican food place. Trust me. Like seriously, Establo's is 1) down the street, 2) cheaper, and 3) tastes way better. This place is decorated in the typical SoCal beach theme, which fits, I guess, with the massive amount of surfer guys and obnoxious high schoolers that roll through the place. The servers and cashiers are nice, and the place is nice, but the food just isn't that great. Honestly guys, there's not much more I can say.

This place is for you if you: like maple syrup-sticky chairs and tables rude people sub-par food disappointment I have gone here since high school. I liked it in high school, when we had nowhere else to go and I couldn't really tell the difference between great food and okay food. More recently, my boyfriend and I went here to get a quick bite to eat for lunch and when we walked inside, it was dead. I think we were the only ones inside. My boyfriend had gotten other food (I think Nona's because it's right next door) but I told him I was craving Olas (which was the last time I've ever craved it). We walked up to the register and the first thing the guy says to us was not "Hey, how's it goin" but, "Oh you can't eat here" and I was like "I'm sorry, what?" and he says "He has food from somewhere else and he can't eat it in here" and so I said "Fine then it's to go" (what I SHOULD have said was "Okay well I don't support small businesses whose food AND service suck" but oh well; opportunity missed). For some reason, I still ordered a burrito. It was the nastiest "burrito" I have ever eaten. I mean, no one comes to Olas for authentic Mexican food, but this wasn't even good. The tortilla tasted really old (partly stiff and hard instead of warm and soft) the beans were watery and half cold, and the guac was bad (I ordered a veggie burrito). In all honesty, I have no idea why people eat here when there are so many better choices in Camarillo alone. And hello, Oxnard is like 10 minutes away. With horrible service and gross food, I'm not quite sure how they've survived.

  • Ron W.

Great food, quick service. I love the carnitas burrito; always fresh, and a good value for the price. Nice salsa bar. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this may not be the place for you. It's more a "California surf vibe" place (not a bad thing for SoCal). That said, the food is always well prepared with high quality ingredients & generous portions. I go there often, and highly recommend them!

  • Charlene F.

Went in today to grab a quick lunch to go. I got the alacarte chicken taquitos. They were really good. They were fat, and filled with white meat chicken which is great! It was a bit busy, but it was lunch time. I didn't wait long for my order. The woman who gave me my order was super nice, complimented my top, offered me chips and made sure my order was correct. What else can you ask for?

  • Vicky Z.

What's with all the hype? I dined at Olas Mex Grill for the first time, thinking that everyone loves their food. I ordered a combo plate with a chile relleno and taco, and my husband had a burrito. Both were just ok. The chips were just ok. The salsa could be better. Overall, I was not impressed. When comparing Olas to other Mexican restaurants in the area, they don't stand a chance! Sorry, Olas, time to step it up a notch.

If you're looking for a fun and fairly quick place for lunch, then you've found the right place! Great food....portions are enormous and the prices are low! The beach type atmosphere makes this place fun! I would come back often if I lived closer!

  • Jonathan W.

Called in my order and the guy was very rude, very short and unpleasant, he practically hung up on me, a part of me wanted to not even pick up my order but given the fact my child was hungry I went against my gut and picked it up, when I arrived he was just as rude in person and to my surprise it was the actual owner (I guess he thinks he's too good to work at his own restaurant) and the food wasn't even that great, I'll be sticking to establos meat market down the street from now on, I'm not an unreasonable person but being treated like a nuisance is not cool! Done!!

Live right by this place. Call in orders and still have to wait 20 minutes. This seems like a normal complaint. Not enough for me to write a review about it. I tried to contact the manager about this issue via olas website no response. I finally gave this place one more shot. Called in a order and waited a while before pickup. Got there and waited 20 minutes. Finally got my shrimp burrito (most expensive one) and found a long black curly hair in it. Contacted manager no response. Go to elrey cantina pay a lil more and have a better meal.

My bf and I came here on a Friday mid-afternoon for lunch, so the place wasn't busy at all. He ordered a taco and I ordered the wet Burrito w/ chicken. The burrito was huge so I only ate half of it. The sauce was good, but the chicken was dry. I liked how they offer free, unlimited chips, which I ate with the green salsa (yummy and better than the average salsa). The service was okay. The staff was very friendly. It took awhile to get my burrito because they made the wrong one for me. This place wasn't very clean. I saw food on the chairs and the floors. If I'm ever in the area, I wouldn't mind coming back here if I'm craving Mexican food. You can get a lot of food for cheap. It would be nice if they kept the place cleaner though.

I was in Camarillo yesterday and googled a few places to eat. Decided on Olas. It looked a little scary outside, seeing a few creepy people walk out of the liquor store next door, but I decided to give it a try. I was glad I did. I ordered the chicken nachos and it was huge! Big enough for at least two people if not three people. Tons of chicken, guac and sour cream. It was so good. Also ordered the quesadilla, it was a generous portion as well with no complaints. What I really liked about the chicken was that it was shredded and you could tell it was cooking all day in a pot, which makes it taste so much better! Def worth another try next time I'm in Camarillo.

The best Mexican food in Camarillo! A lot of food on plate!

  • Jay A.

My favorite Mexican Food spot. We loved going to Olas on sunny weekend afternoons. Olas captures the Ventura lifestyle better than any restaurant in Ventura can, on the water or not, and it's not even in Ventura, it's in beach less Camarillo. I love the atmosphere. It can get busy, but never unbearable. The salsas are good, the employees were nice. The owner is cool. Surf is always up here, bro.

I love getting introduced to new restaurants and walking away knowing that I am going to start frequenting their establishment. We all ordered something different, so I sampled a few items and the winner for me was the Carnitas Chimichanga!! So good and huge. I was full less than half way through this beast, but it was so good that I just kept stuffing my face! It's a cool place, friendly staff, probably gonna head there for a Chimichanga right now as it was a few weeks ago when I was there and now I'm feening for one!

  • Joe C.

Got the asana burrito and chicken burrito, not impressed with either. Flavor was pretty boring. Worth icing another shot though because their hot sauce and salsa made everything a lil better. Good place for a quick bite with the kids, but their are far better Mexican places In The area

One of our favorite places in Camarillo! We have never dined in but, I assume the quality is just the same with their take out. Everything we have ever ordered from the tacos to the burritos (wet or dry) to the combination plates to the chimichangas have ALL been delicious! Not to mention that you get free chips, and many of the dishes come with fresh made guacamole, sour cream and Pico de Gallo for no extra charge. Don't even get me started on the salsa bar: )

  • Jeffrey L.

This place is awesome. Was recommended to this place by a local. The burrito I ordered was huge and very yummy. The decor is very interesting. The price was very very reasonable. I wished I could have gone there again on my trip. Oh well, next time then.

  • Tyler T.

Great food with a fun atmosphere. As mentioned in earlier reviews, it's not the cleanest place in town but they focus on the quality of food instead, right? My two biggest complaints would be the horrible parking and lack of Sprite/7up/Sierra Mist. There are probably 6 spots that are for their facility and then it's a free for all for the rest. Be prepared to walk far or drive around for awhile on a busy day.

Hands down the best Mexican food in Camarillo. I am from San Fernando (where we have the OG Carillo's) so needless to say I am used to the real deal, unfortunately not much luck in the Conejo Valley and I have tried a handful of places over the hill which have all left me still craving true comida mexicana (till I found Olas that is!). Enchiladas, burritos, tamales, salsas, chips, tortillas, breakfast, lunch, dinner whatever time it is...it is all on point and will not disappoint. And it is super affordable...cool, surfer restaurant atmosphere without the restaurant prices...totally comparable to the mexican taco shack on the corner. Whether you are on the way to the beach, the outlets or if you live in town...give them a try! If you know real mexican, you will not be let down :)

I have olas two stars because it felt like being at wahoos tasted like eating a fast food wrapper. The foods only saving grace is it didn't taste bad but it happened to be the least flavorful Mexican food I've ever had. Cumin. Try it out guys does wonders. The place also seems to be run mostly by self absorbed teenagers. If only the rest of our lives were as seemingly interesting as yours I'm glad I got to listen to your Friday night report while ordering food. If you happen to stumble in and feel comfortable with the atmosphere. It stops there. You'll have better luck ordering from tasty food from the market across the parking lot.

Olas is more of a Mexican-American restaurant then an "authentic" Mexican taqueria, but if that's your thing then you might like it here. They definitely value quantity over quality. Their burritos are freakin' huge, but the beans and meat aren't very good. They pile on a ton of cheese, and I can never eat more then half. I would definitely bring a friend and go halvsies on an entree. Chips and salsa ain't half bad.

Mexican food - it's pretty tough to find a good burrito or taco here in LA, believe it or not. If I were in El Paso, I could tell you exactly where to go and what to get...but LA is sorely lacking in the Mexican food department. Along comes Olas Mex Grill to completely dispel the notion that I have that LA (well, the LA and surrounding areas) doesn't have a good selection of Mexican restuarants. I had the chile colorado burrito - wet with cheese. The pork in the burrito has just the right about of red chile sauce, with rice, refried beans and...that's it! No, really - mix of flavors is absolutely perfect! No cumin, no cilantro, no anything other than pork, red sauce, cheese, beans and rice. This is one *excellent* burrito! I've been there a couple of times - I had the chile verde burrito, also "wet", as well as the nachos and the taquitos. So far, I can't find anything at Olas I didn't like. Unfortunately, Olas is only about 2 miles from work...and they aren't open on Mondays...otherwise I'd be there just about every day. Luckily, on the days that Olas isn't open...I head over to the Texas Cattle Company on Arniell for a great Pulled Pork sandwich. These burritos are huge, so bring an appetite. I can have a huge lunch, with drink, for about $8. Not bad at all! Do your taste buds and your tummy a favor - try Olas. You won't leave sorry or hungry!

Have been here twice, really like the food and service. Had a combo number ? (I forgot) but do remember a tasty taco, enchilada, and Chile Relleno. My second stop involved some wonderful Chili Colorado and a cold one which they have a mighty selection of. Yap liking this place, good food, good atmosphere, good crowd, good service, good!

  • Julieanne F.

Olas has a nice local laid back feel. Service so-so. Asada has good smokey flavor but missing something, chicken was dry and flavorless. Nachos are good. Overall, Olas doesn't cross my mind when I crave Mexican.

  • Chris D.

I've been going there for a long time now, and the food is always great! Amazing people working there care about the customer and enjoy there jobs. I really like the vibe if you want to eat in, and the food holds well for take home. Get the chile relleno burrito wet and add asada! Everything is really good though. And on my last visit Mike bough me and my fiance a beer while we waited for our take out order. Amazing place!

    (5)
  • Matt S.

Possibly the only place in town that has a chile relleno burrito without any meat in it, oddly. Good food, plenty of options, relaxed atmosphere. The ONLY complaint I have is that there is not enough parking! It seems like the last few times I've gone I've had to park a couple blocks away. Worth it though!

    (5)
  • R T.

Best Mex Grill in the area. We go there often and never tire of the food or atmosphere. Laid back, friendly, generous, and delicious.

    (4)
  • Stan W.

"good bang for your buck"...Yes I'm talking about the food. Get your mind out of the gutter! The portions are ridiculous. I never can finish the chimichanga even when I don't fill up on the chips and salsa. The tacos combination plate may not be too adventurous but it is really good. The lady usually goes with the enchiladas and she always seems very pleased with her selection. The surf decor and the TV's displaying surf videos go well with the relaxed and calming atmosphere that is Camarillo. I agree with other Yelpers that the food doesn't seem as greasy as other mexican restuarants but it's easy to be a glutton here. This is a great stop for anyone doing outlet shopping or heading to the beach. I think most people won't be disappointed.

Came here for lunch with a group of ten and we got our food within a few seconds. Food was delicious. Authentic Mexican food...yum! There isn't much parking which was probably the only downside for the restaurant.

Really long line on a Sunday. Expect to wait like over 20 minutes in line. Its good but not the best. Not sure if I will go back. Its a cheap eat but not something I really think I will crave. Theres better places I think.

  • Tom S.

Close to Tex-Mex. I love this place. Food is great and the staff is accommodating. Hot sauce bar could be cleaner... needs constant maintenance. Highly recommend their ground beef tacos and cheese enchiladas. Best thing on the menu is the steak encebollado!!! Get it med-rare.

Ate here yesterday -- had the ground beef burrito. Came with beans, rice, and beef. I like it plain like that so I was happy. It was a very good burrito. I love their salsa too.

  • Matthew B.

Food is delicious - don't get me wrong. We came here on a Sunday evening, sat down, and ordered nachos, fajitas, and burritos. From ordering, it took us 45 minutes to get our appetizer nachos! Food came out at the same time too which is fine - but still - that's a long time for food to come out! The waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there and was very snappy when we asked her questions regarding the menu which made us say "never again". +5 stars for the food -2 starts for the service = 3 star rating.

If you love Gigantic portions and cheese overload, this is the place to be. Pretty much everything has cheese and lots of it. I got the shredded beef burrito. A little on the salty side for me but still worth a try.

  • V S.

Excellent mexican food from Burritos to tacos and everything in between. I usually have the fish tacos. The shrimp tacos are very good too. Always serving big portions with friendly service. It can get busy so plan ahead. Plenty of seating but it's a coastal favorite so there can be a line for seating. We come from Ventura for this special treat, and it never disappoints. Good beer selection too.

This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant. My favorite was the crane asada burrito, but the last two times I tried it, it had no taste. I'm giving them three stars for past experiences, with the hope that they can go back to the old quality.

Everytime we travel to the area, we stop here at Olas!! The prices are affordable and they are generous with their portions. Everything we've tried has been good. So far our favorites are the carne asada wet burrito and the carne asada nachos. It can get really busy so parking can be a problem at times. It's worth taking the time to find parking cause the food is really good and the service is fast and friendly. The atmosphere makes us feel like we're at the beach or a surfer place. Give this place a try. You won't regret it!

One of my "go-to" Camarillo restaurants. Not authentic Mexican fare but great California-ized Mex food. They usually have surf movies running and have a great atmosphere. If you're looking for a monster burrito, this is the place. My favorite is the shrimp tacos. The guacamole is hit or miss.

    (4)
  • Robert F.

Go here if you want to eat a chimichanga the size of a child's thigh. Don't go here if you want one that tastes good. On the other hand, you don't have to worry about running out of food. Because it's all there, on your plate. All the food.

    (2)
  • Toya L.

Their food is just really good. Love their hard shell tacos. They could spruce up their salsas though. Not hot and delicious enough but it works for now. They put on lots of meat. Maybe too much at times but why complain.

Here's a simple to write review: Read what the other folks say who gave it 5 stars. They're right. Here's the long story: Stayed at a hotel close by and hit the "Nearby" button in my Yelp app on my smartphone. Lots of reviews and lots of 5 star ratings. We walked over and found everything the 5 star reviewers said was true. PS: The Hungarian Hunney had the vegetarian burrito and I had the carnitas chimichanga. I also had the County Line Pale Ale. All were superb - particularly the beer. We saw A LOT of people eating the quesadillas, so we'll try that next time.

Absolute best! Love the food, the people and the beer! Owner and staff are ways pleasant, food is always fresh, authentic and incredibly good! Would have given Olas a 5 star, UNTIL I found out that the employees/owners are uneducated and do not know the difference between VEGETARIAN and CHICKEN STOCK. Months ago I called up Olas and talked to a girl on the phone to make an order. First thing I asked was to find out if their RICE (which mind you is listed in their VEGETARIAN BURRITO!!!!) was vegetarian friendly, meaning NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS IN IT! Well she informed me that in fact it was, and it was vegan friendly as well! Okay then, problem solved. I ordered and enjoyed. That night I had a slight stomach ache after eating, figured it was the beans and super hot sauce they had. Did not think twice. Ordered another time, same thing, was told the rice was okay to eat, it was after all on the veggie burrito. I go in yesterday, order the same vegetarian burrito. The girl who was working the register asked me if I was vegetarian, I kind of laughed, wanting to be snarky I almost told her, "DUH, why else would I order the VEGETARIAN burrito?? She then procceds to inform me that the rice DOES contain chicken stock. I told the two girls who were manning the counter that on two separate occasions their workers had falsely informed me, AS DID THE FRICKEN MENU posted on the damn wall above their heads! I asked them how can they post it on the menu under something stating it was vegetarian then? Their responce? "Well MOST people ASK before they order" UH EXCUSE ME?? Had I not just told them I had asked on TWO different occasions! How can you provide this service?!? Do you not know the definition of VEGETARIAN? Must I remind you? vegetarian /vejite()ren/ Noun A person who does not eat meat, and sometimes other animal products, esp. for moral, religious, or health reasons. That does not mean you can post a menu item stating that it is vegetarian and be lying to your customers. Me and my son could have gotten very very ill from their incompetence! How about you reeducate your employees and remove the menu items before you get another outraged customer. OLAS, YOU JUST LOST MY BUSINESS! Only sad thing, it their salsa is awesome. To bad I won't be going back again.

I remember my sister taking my brother and I here a couple years ago and it was amazingggg! The restaurant is family-owned I believe and it's unique because of its surf-related equipment and memorabilia. The Mexican food here come in large proportions and is reasonably priced. I think I had enchiladas last time and they were tasty and satisfying :) I would recommend this place or anyone in Camarillo and just writing about it makes me want to go have some! :9

Food was very reasonably priced. It was good and plenty. However the place is disgustingly dirty. Bathrooms are worse than gas stations., Soda machine, floors, walls, salsa bar, tables were nasty. Bus boy wiped down salsa bar with a napkin, it fell in the salsa and he picked it out with his dirty hands, looked to see who was watching then kept going. Pass.

Great place to bring the gang when you're paying ! Consistently good food at a really competitive price. Great salsa bar. Like the surf-mex atmosphere. 5 stars when it's not crowded, 4 when it is (noise and parking).

I came here with my family yesterday night for dinner after scouring yelp for a good mexican restaurant. I ordered the fajitas which came with a lot of food, however it was very blah, blank and lacked basic fajita ingredients (sour cream, cheese, and pico de gallo. My wife ordered The chimichangas and she complained of them being too cheesy and she loves cheese! My sister ordered the tortilla soup, which was also a very large portion considering the cost, she said it was good. However my reason for the poor rating is because of the horrible service. We were the last customers in the restaurant and they were closing as we were eating (understandable). However, the two (17-19 year old) waitresses kept asking us if we would be wanting more tea, as they wanted to put it away for the night. Then they asked if we wanted more salsa, as they were wanting to put it away... If customers are in the restaurant it should be a fully functioning restaurant. We shouldn't have to be questioned about our future plans to hit the salsa bar because they want to go home faster. THEN after my sister had about 5 bites of her soup, a fly flew in it (flies at 8:30 at night?). We brought it to the attention of the waitress, and she asked us if we wanted to go boxes. We said "a bug landed in her soup". She AGAIN said "can I get you some to go boxes?". We loom at each other baffled and amazed at her lack of understanding. We then said a THIRD time " A BUG LANDED IN HER SOUP!". She said "ohhhhh!" And looked really confused about what to do next...we asked could we get a new soup. She said the kitchen was closed even thought it was 8:50pm and their hours posted said they didn't close until 9!!! Quality service is everything in the restaurant business and Olas is lacking it bad! Oh yea, and they only had 1 menu for our table of 5... I wouldn't recommend this place unless you love too cheesy food and subpar flavors. (The man at the register wasn't very inviting either. They did all say "thank you" as we left...but I feel like it was more like a "thank you for leaving" instead of a "thank you for your business!"

Best Mexican Restaurant in Camarillo! Everything is delicious. Large portions. Excellent staff. They're willing to go out of their way to help you out. The quesadillas are my favorite!

We ate here tonight. The place was really dirty, I mean filthy. The food was also very bland and dry. My chicken enchilada meat and my son's tamale were so dry that neither of us really wanted to eat much of it. My husband wasn't really thrilled with his nachos either. This is the last time we come here. Why not clean up the place up, serve smaller portions and cook the food better. I felt like I was eating slop as my arm stuck to the table.

To know Olas is to love Olas. I love everything I order, but if possible choose beef over chicken. A tip to Carlos: Season your chicken and it will live up to the rest of the menu. My Olas staple? A wet bean, cheese, and rice burrito. It's the best around. Make sure you grab a TON of salsa- it's the best. Staff is friendly and fun. If you're in Camarillo definitely stop by.

This place is a lot of undeserved hype honestly. It is seen as the "cool" place therefore it is "cool" to like it. In reality it is mediocre food given to you by a bunch of snobby little teenagers who have BMWs and pretend to surf. The service is horrible and the food is bland. There are stickers and surfboards everywhere to distract you from the fact that you are paying to much to just sit around and wait. I would go somewhere else.

Very tasty food. Especially like the combinations and enchiladas. Nice salsa bar. Casual atmosphere. Good to-go service.

Best mex food in town, and hes always got surf videos playing on the big TV. The owner also is a great surfer and a great guy and does alot for the community. if your passing through camarillo and you got an itch for some good mexy food, this is the spot

I have been coming to Olas for almost three years now and they are one of the best kept "secrets" in Ventura County. Hands down the best Mexican food in the area. The chimichangas are a must here and will blow your minds! Not only do they give you plenty of lettuce, sour cream and guacamole on top of the chimichangas, but its stuffed with chicken (or whatever meat you want). I don't think I have ever left here without being stuffed and often times I leave with leftovers. Even their burritos come fully stuffed with meat and they don't mess around, its crazy delicious. Also they possess one of the best staffs in all of the area, but when this place is busy don't be surprised if you have trouble parking or finding a table to sit. However, its well worth the wait!

My family and I went today and ordered the asada chimichanga, shredded pork and asada quesadilla and everyone of our meals was delicious. The scene inside is surfer type and it keep my 3 yr old entertained. The service is not the best but I would go back just for the food. :)

Whenever I'm in the Camarillo area, I try to come down to Olas for lunch. Its a cool little "surfer" spot to grab some great food. Most of the time, I go for their Chile Colorado burrito. Its awesome! Perfectly marinated pork with a red chile sauce wrapped up with some beans, cheese and rice. All that and a side of chips. I always have leftovers to bring home. To top off your food, they have a great free salsa bar. I love their mango salsa, for that extra sweet and spicy kick! Their guacamole's great if you wanna pay a little extra. Its nice and chunky, and they give you a big helping of it. They also offer a number of beers to go along with your meal, so if you have time, relax and hang out with the local crowd and kick a few back! *And, if you're in the mood to do a little shopping, the Camarillo Outlets are just a few blocks away.

Fast. Affordable. And VERY good. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Prices are very reasonable and they quality of the food is very fresh and delicious. Portions are large. And they serve beer! Ding! Environment is fun with local 805 surf stuff all over the place. Can get a little crowded. Staff is friendly.

Quesadillas so cheesy, Crunchy tacos come in any meat your choose. (LOVE the carnitas.) Rice beans and salsa bar is great & their self serve soft drinks are a great size and under $2 each! I really can't complain here.

Went here today with my parents, who were visiting from the east coast and really wanted Mex food. I found this place while we were out shopping and didn't know anything about it other than the reviews on here. I was a little skeptical when we first walked in. It was very crowded and I didn't realize you placed your order at the counter. But we decided to stay and I am so glad that we did! My mom and I each had the chicken tostada and my dad had a combo meal. It was very good. And fresh. Big servings and they were not skimpy with the guacamole or sour cream. Salsa bar was great as well. We all enjoyed our meal. I will most def be back!

Oh my god they're shredded chicken burrito Every time I order it, the chicken is super moist. My usual is the dry chicken burrito and I top it with the cilantro sauce, mild salsa and cilantro and onions that they offer at their salsa bar. They're burritos are huge so it's always nice to get full From eating half as saving the rest for later. The horchata is the best I've ever tasted, and it's like 10 minutes from where I live so that's a plus. People are really friendly and it has this surfer joint feel to it, that brings me back home to Long Beach.

Taco Tuesdays have been my only experience with Olas because I live so far away, but DAMN those are some tasty tacos. The potato taco is my favorite, and the fish taco is good, too. The place is loud, full of people, and laid back.

Olas is, hands down, my favorite Mexican place of all time. I'm never disappointed. Delicious food at an affordable price, you can't beat it!! Today I had half a wet bean and cheese burrito...(it's so giant I can only eat half) and chips with salsa. Their salsa is so good! And they're always willing to give me as many refills on chips as I want. Olas, you're number one!

They have a great salsa bar. Mango Salsa is killer. Don't worry about the portion sizes here they serve it up big. Burritos are huge!! The shredded chicken is not dried out and has some great flavor.

  • Richard A.

I love this place... think of it as surfer mexican food, lots and lots of cheese!!! The employees are all really helpful and I've never had a bad experience here. TIP: get the bigger bowl for the salsa to the right of the salsa bar. Be sure to try all the salsas, they're really tasty. I just started eating the mango salsa, it's really good on everything. I usually get a quesadilla, it'll fill you up trust me. If you really want a filler get a chimichanga burrito wet.... but good luck finishing it! Asada is great, carnitas are awesome, and to be honest all the meats are really good :P Just remember, you will get a good portion so dont over order. Oh and try their civehe if it's around This place is usually busy during lunch so make sure you have enough time or do a phone order. You got to try this place if you havn't already... if cheese isn't your thing then why are you eating mexican food?

Been here plenty of times for quick business lunches. The food is great and decently priced; the atmosphere helps ease the mood, considering the usual crowd of people. Can never go with beef (or carne asada) nachos and tacos!

Food was decent, price very good, but service lacking. I paid with my AmEx card and was charged a 50 cent transaction fee. When I inquired about the fee I was told that I had a choice of going to an ATM and getting cash or using a card. For the privilege of using a card they charge 50 cents. I think the ludicrousness of this policy is self-evident, but what really burned me is that I had cash on me. I just always use my card for convenience. I was not warned in advance that I would be charged for using a card. It's not the 50 cents that burns me, it's the principle of the hidden fee.

  • Kevin K.

I ate here for the first time today and had a pretty rockin' carnitas plate. It was the requisite pile of pork, with rice, beans and a side of tortillas. The beans were delicious and the carnitas were very wonderfully porkalicious. My father and son were not so fond of their dishes, but alas they did not contain any pork. They lost, I won! Go me! Pork, its what is for meals and in between meal snacks.

Oh la la me loves Olas! I was skeptical when I first walked in. It was like a crazier looking Wahoo's but it had really good reviews on Yelp so we thought what the heck. The hubs went for a carne asada chimichanga and I opted for the combo platter of course with pork tamale, chicken enchilada and potato taco! Platters come with rice, beans and chips, too! The food here is monstrous! 2 people can definitely share and still leave full. They give you a basket of tortilla chips and there is a salsa bar. I really enjoyed the potato taco because it was something different. The enchilada had high quality chicken breast meat. The pork tamale was just OK. There wasn't that much filling and too much masa. But to me it's pretty much impossible to find good tamales in Cali. I took a bite of the hubs' chimichanga. It was drenched in shredded cheese, guac, lettuce, etc. It was pretty darn good! Service is fast, too. This place is def worth it!

We always get take out and it is a weekly tradition. I love the burritos, the enchiladas and quesadillas. Nice big tortillas, good beans, tasty rice and lots of it. Love their chunky guacamole, nice and fresh using local avocados, like every restaurant should. The owners are cool and they support local sports, local athletes and artists. I give them 4 and not 5 because while I do like the food, it is quite greasy. For that 5th start you really need to make everything not only tasty and fresh but I can't be having heart burn at the end of the night.

TRY THE SHRIMP TACOS. Big old juicy shrimp. Seriously wonderful. Breakfast burritos are PERFECT. Parking kinda is hit and miss,in other words, it sucks sometimes. But plan it right and you're fine. I want some NOW.

This place has great Asada. Its decor is beach but the location is city/town. I was there for lunch so I couldn't have a beer but their selection was decent. They also had fountain soda as well as bottles for those who don't like pepsi products. If this place was walking distance from my house it would become my go-to establishment. I liked the vibe of the staff, the food was good and the bee selection would keep me happy. They also had TVs on to watch if you wanted to hang out for a while.

I visited Olas on Saturday night. From other reviews I knew it was going to be busy so I ordered food to go. Parking was a pain in the butt. I ended up double parking in the back alley and ran in. The line was long but I looked behind the counter and some nice girl asked if I was a to go order. I said yes and she handed me my food and took my money, avoiding the long line (thus the extra star). I grabbed some salsa verde and headed back to he hotel. My daughter got the rolled tacos which she said were good. I also liked that they gave free bags of chips with each thing ordered. However, my carne asada burrito was a bean and rice burrito with a few (and I do mean a few) pieces of meat. I will say I'm from So Cal and I am used to a meat burrito being meat and maybe some pico de gallo. If you want meat at this place I saw a "meat only" burrito is $1.75 more. Bummer, guess I should have ordered it that way. I don't mind rice and beans but that's all I got at Olas. I was truly disappointed after reading the reviews. One star for the rolled tacos, one star for the nice girl.

Top 3 Mexican Food in Ventura County. Legit. Very casual. Order at the counter (great Latin beer selection), find your own seat, great MexiCali grub is brought to you. Portions are large, not huge, but very hearty portions. Try the carnitas chimichanga. Delicious pork and the burrito is topped with fresh diced lettuce, shredded cheese and sour cream. Love the surf vibes and videos playing on tv's.

Remember that time you went to a cute little, quick Mexican place where the staff was charming and the food made you always long for that place? That place that left a perfect taste in your mouth like some sort of crack taco? It wasn't Ola's. Bad service. I actually watched them take a girl's plate away when she turned to converse with her friend before she had finished eating. The cashier was just downright rude and the bus boy or owner or whatever he was was just kind of creepy. Prices... eh. The food prices weren't terrible; however, the add on's were ridiculous. $1.75 for a half a basket of tortilla chips, to go along with their offensively bad salsa. The regular salsa they have is ok. The mango is weird. The "avocado" puree is baby vomit; I'm pretty convinced. The hot was just water with kick, no flavor. The main dishes were alright. If someone had made them for me at home, I'd probably say 3 stars. Unfortunately, I paid for it and had to wash it down with the impressively bad tasting Horchata they dared to serve. Also, seating is just weird. Be prepared. It is never a good thing to walk into a Mexican restaurant to be greeted by a crowd of upper middle class white people who look like they've never met a hispanic person; it's worse to be snubbed by the white college aged staff. I am not a fan, but maybe that's because I've had Mexican food before and could make this at home with less effort and more success.

I've come here once and have never been back since then. You have to wait in a long line with only ONE person taking orders, so patience is needed. Especially when the person ordering in front is like "hmmm.... what do I want.. Is this good? How bout this?" It's like move your ass and let me get my order in if you don't know wtf you want! So after waiting FORVER in a long single line to order my enchiladas, you have to find a seat among the sticky dirty tables. Very unsanitary. Then when I received the enchiladas I ordered they were extremely watery and soggy! I'm a full blooded Mexican woman & the food is totally WHITE WASHED! You can tell it's white washed because of all the surf videos on each and EVERY single screen! You think they would give you a variety of options on what to watch, but no, your stuck watching surf videos on repeat! And the girl taking my order looked sloppy and smelly like she just woke up on the beach somewhere. My enchiladas were not authentic at ALL and over loaded with cheap craft shredded yellow cheese. I recognized it immediately. Even Yolanda's enchiladas funk ALL OVER these crappy ones! I tried eating the enchiladas and the tortilla was SO soggy and over cooked it literally crumpled and turned to a crummy cheesy mess when I tried to cut slices to eat it. Tortillas just shredded apart when I tried cutting into the enchilada. So that means they either buy cheap ass paper thin tortillas or over cooked & fried the HELL outta them! I would have been better off using a spoon to eat the crummy mess it turned into! The beans were watery and had no flavor at ALL sprinkled with more of that cheap craft cheese! And the rice was dry and over cooked as well. The only thing that was enjoyable was the beer I ordered at that's because they didn't make it it came bottled! Don't believe the hype like I did. This place isn't worth the money. If you want real Mexican food go to ESTABLOS down the road instead! You'll thank me later! The only people who like this place are white people who don't know what real Mexican food is SUPPOSED to taste like!

I love Olas' salsa. If you get a burrito, it's worth getting it "wet." There's something about the enchilada sauce and the cheese that just makes for a better experience.

What a fun place! It's the best combination - yummy homemade type Mexican food in a surfing/ocean atmosphere. Olas is a great place to grab a quick meal and not be stuck with greasy fast food. One delicious perk to Olas is that it is within walking distance from my home, so I'm able to walk-off my guilty pleasure. Pay them a visit, I think you'll be pleased you did!

  • Connor H.

Worst Mexican in Camarillo. Don't understand the buzz. All but the green salsa is terrible. Mango salsa is utterly discusting. The only saving grace is that the food is cheap. The place itself is so filthy you don't want to eat there. And to to it off, the staff is full of slackers.

  • Hattori H.

Out of all the Mexican restaurants in the area, this is one of my faves. This place is located on Ventura Blvd just up the street from the outlets. Granted I won't find any Oaxacan dishes here, this place is just fine for burritos, fish tacos, and fajitas. When I think of "real, authentic" Mexican food I think of Mole sauces and various Oaxacan dishes (yeah, there are other regions too). I really like the salsa here - one of the best I've had. Portions are more than enough for what you pay. Good fish tacos and chicken fajitas. It's a good thing that Carlos hired help to run the place. This gives him more time to surf. I have to admit the manager he hired kind of looks like himself (Carlos) - a little funny. The place itself is surfer themed with a surfboard hanging from the rafters and various surf videos playing on the TVs. Good portions, cheap, and tasty dishes.

Best Mexican food ever. Terrific deal for the price. I just wish one thing.. They'd take a scrubbing brush and a bottle of bleach/409 and scrub the place from top to bottom. Everything has that 'tacky' feel and needs a good clean... If the place were cleaner - I'd give it a 5+

    (4)
  • JJ K.

It's the highly sought after combination of great food, reasonably priced, with great service. Everything from the chips and salsa to the famous wet burritos to carnitas plates are insane. I have yet to come across a dish I haven't fallen in love with!

I went here today for the first time after my boyfriend told me that this place has really great food. I ordered a dry, chicken burrito which well, I've decided wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Yeah, it had all of the typical things like the tortilla, chicken, rice and beans...ohhhh, the beans. I was so overwhelmed with the amount of beans. We were lucky we had gotten a drink because the beans made everything taste dry and nasty-yucky. The chicken was moist, burrito was big, but I just feel like I've been to a lot of other places that would do me better. I'm not picky, but I've been to a lot of places where food doesn't 'pop' and well, this was one of those places. This place is just like Wahoo's. Same restaurant concept and food. The food and service are the same. If you're ever in Irvine, Santa Monica or Laguna Beach, try it out. Prices are also the same.

Great atmosphere, great food. I love the salsa bar, so much variety! They give heaping portions of food, so come for lunch one day and you can have leftovers for tomorrow's lunch! I've had taquitos, taco salad, BRC burrito, and tacos. My husband loves their wet asada burrito. This is a family-owned restaurant and they are super friendly. They really care about their customers and you're not just a number. After a few times eating there, you feel like you're a part of their community, which is pretty cool.

This place is so yummy! Great prices, GREAT HORCHATA! And delicious Food. Anything you get is delicious. My favorite is their Quesadillas, Tacos ( Beef ) and Taco Salads with Hard Shell! You won't go wrong coming to this place, right off the freeway too and next to the Camarillo Outlets, it just doesn't get any better than that! Trust me!!!!!

  • Michelle M.

Cheap(ish), cheesy Mexican food is the specialty at Olas. I haven't encountered anything on the menu that I don't like, except maybe the nachos, which are barely average. My only complaint is that both times I have ordered take-out, they have messed up my order and I had to drive back to get it fixed. If you get take-out, check every part of your order before you leave!

Olas is somewhat boring and the food is just okay however, everything is smoothered with cheap cheese and one is not able taste the food. Olas's food is good if you order enough beer!!.

    (2)
  • Vicki M.

Family owned business; food good; prices better; poor parking unless you're lucky. Very busy at noon; also very loud. Great beer selection. Order at counter, they deliver to table. Get a take-away box when you order your meal, you'll need it. Only complaint is that they put lettuce on the fish tacos, not cabbage. Great chimichangas!

  • J-Money F.

Great place to eat if you're on the Boulevard looking for some Mexican food. Parking however can be a pain! (side note: parking in general can be an issue in downtown Camarillo). If you're headed here for lunch, beware of the parking. Nevertheless, it is some excellent Mexican food with a Surfer vibe. Salsas are decent and the fact that you can knock back a Corona is excellent too.

I've been going to Olas since I was in 8th grade, I am now 21. There has been two times I can recall them messing up my order, and they had no problems fixing it. I love the tostada asada suprema....huge fried burrito bowl/shell... its amazing. they do use a lot of cheese and lettuce. nothing a simple request such as "easy cheese and easy lettuce" can not fix.... last time i went the asada was very greasy, but i think any place has fresher food in the morning/lunch time. this morning i went and it was GREAT! i definitely do recommend it, and i agree with everyone else, parking and seating can be issue during busy times. awesome atmosphere though. salsa is the BEST!

i love eating at this place for lunch. i usually get the chille colorado or carne asada chimichanga, or the taquitos a la carte. the portions are pretty big and i enjoy the food very much, the staff is pretty friendly to me so its a plus

I hope you like cheese because Olas is not afraid to give it to you. I am not a huge fan of cheese so I ask for less. I love how this place has wheat tortillas as an option. This place is also cheap!

this place is pretty legit.. great food and huge portions. I'm diggin the whole tv settup and surf ambiance of the place. The owner Tony is a pretty cool guy and is on it. not traditional mexican food, but pretty tastey never the less.. super close to las posas exit and near the outlets... i would recommend you trying this place anytime.

  • Richie W.

I like to think of Ola's as restaurant-style food at fast food prices. They offer many types of fillings for your tacos and burritos: chicken, carnitas, steak, ground beef, pork, carne asada and potatoes. I'm a big fan of the vegetarian chimichanga and the potato tacos. Their salsa is awesome.

    (5)
  • Dylan C.

pretty tastey stuff, get the burrito enchilada style. i always get just chicken and cheese but its pretty yumsters..

  • S M.

We used to go here a lot. The food was cheaper when they first opened and they took credit cards without a surcharge. The food was really good. Recently, the food has gone down in quality. We've felt a little ill after eating there the last three times. The food has gotten progressively saltier and greasier. We usually get a chicken burrito and the carne asada burrito. The flan is pretty good.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
