This is my favorite Thai food spot on the Peninsula. I live near by and walk here at least 3 times a month. I recommend the pad thai, drunken noodles, yellow curry and rotti bread for dessert. Their bar is great and people have been very friendly. .. staff and frequents. Try this place out... definitely worth it. Dinner for 2 usually runs $40-$60. Lunch for 2 for about $30.

Seriously, why do I keep giving this place a shot! The food is really good but the service is TERRIBLE. Th staff doesn't seem properly trained and don't seem to know how to greet/approach/interact with customers. It was difficult to flag people down when we needed things and everyone except for the person who took our order seemed to be mute. On top of feeling unwelcome and insufficiently helped, our waitress also forgot two items in our order and only offered a half-hearted "sorry". I really like the food here and it's located in a convenient location for me but the service is so awful that I can't come back.

Could I give it a zero star? Where should we start? Service is incompetent they did not bring it dishes after multiple question who brings out rice 10 minutes after your dish and put Thai ice tea in a cocktail glass and argues with a guest when you ask for a regular sized ice tea? Food was mediocre unauthentic and terrible. The curry tasted like paste and the pumpkin was undercooked. Would I recommended it? Only to your worst enemy if you really hate them that much. On top of it all when u point it out their ride instead of being apologetic. They need new management, severs, and cooks. Don't waste your time and money turn away and have a better meal somewhere else.

An extra star for good green curry. Service is horrible. Don't know if they are severely understaffed, or severely disorganized, or worse. Ordered food to pick up from here about 3 times. Each time they have me wait an additional 10 to 30 minutes beyond what they tell me on the phone. That is, on the phone they tell me 30 minutes, I arrive after 45 minutes, I wait an additional 10-30 minutes on top. Each time I have to walk over to someone in the back to ask them for help, because they rarely keep a host/hostess at the door. At 7pm is the worst. I had better luck on a weekend around lunchtime, when they actually had a nice hostess one time. Tonight, felt bad for the couple who decided to dine there, had been waiting by the door for at least 10 minutes before even being acknowledged (had been waiting when I arrived), despite all the empty tables. While waiting for my food, I noticed they sat for 20 minutes at a table, no waitstaff going near them.

Coconut Bay Restaurant is a Thai restaurant with a modern look and young staff. The inside is spacious and clean, yet the service and menu is definitely lacking. I came here about an hour before closing, there were a few couples having dinner and a large party enjoying what looked like a birthday celebration. It took a while before a host came to greet my friend and I to show us to our table. Our waitress did not appear to be interested in serving us and overall gave us a bad feeling about the food we were ordering. Her negative attitude took away from the experience. When it comes down to food this restaurant definitely reminds me of a nail salon where every little thing is an extra cost. I was craving the coconut soup and was very disappointing that it only had shrimp in it with nothing else. Other Thai restaurants Ive been to had mushrooms and a variety of seafood in the soup. I asked to add mushrooms which was $1 extra and since I opted for the shrimp instead of the chicken it was also another extra $1.50. The extra cost was not an issue, except it made the restaurant look cheap like the ladies that do my pedicures and try to get an extra dollar out of me for every little flower or design that's put on. The food tasted alright, definitely not anything special. Some of the shrimp still had the tail on which I was not happy about. The Thai iced tea was absolutely disgusting, seems like they messed up the mixture. If I am in the area again I would definitely try one of the other restaurants.

Food Presentation was well put together. Group seating was accommodating Family Style Dinner is not recommended for a large party of 5 or more. Food was tasteful! Roti Appetizer was disappointing.

Decent prices, and not that decent customer service. I say this because it took three minutes, and about 10 employees staring at me and walking past me before they acknowledged I was at the front door when I was the only person standing there. Their food does not taste that great. Does not taste authentic. I had the peanut chicken. Needless to say it was very very peanut-y. Not quite the subtleness of the peanut sauce I was looking for. Lady fingers are great for appetizers. That's all I got. :)

Is it just me or does it bother everyone? Having to order rice as a side when ordering a dish that one eats with rice seems underhanded way of over charging and just doesn't sit well with me. I wouldn't be peeved so much to put it in the review if I had to do it just once for a dish... but doing it twice...just seems very wrong. The side order of rice was so small...it's absolutely not enough for a grown man!! I guess my 1 year old nephew would still be hungry after eating that... .may be a little hyperbolic... but not too far from reality. One more negative is that their curry is pre-made with fish sauce... I wish they change that..coz I tasted their curry and it is good. Going to a Thai joint and not being to able to order their curry...I think is unfair. We ordered the Drunkard noodle and they were pretty good too... The positives were that the food was decent, it came out spicy when asked to make very spicy ,the service was good and the portions are big enough except for the side order rice.

My mother and I had our hair done at the salon across the street, and the hairdresser just raved about this place, so we decided to try it for lunch. We went in at 1:00, so it was just after the main lunch rush, but the place was still crowded. I ordered the Pad Thai with pork; my Mom ordered something called "Spicy noodles in black bean sauce." (I thought that sounded a little too Chinese-ish, but I let it go). We also ordered the spicy calamari as an appetizer. The service was horrifically slow--it took about 20 minutes from the time we walked in until someone came to our table. Since we both ordered noodles, my Mom and I asked for chopsticks (it's an Asian thing--eating Asian noodles with a fork just doesn't feel right!)--the waitress came back 10 minutes later with our chopsticks, after going to at least 3 other tables. We ordered the food...then proceeded to wait. It was at least 40 minutes before we got our food, and the food was nothing to brag about. My Mom's noodles weren't the least bit spicy, even though she had asked for spicy noodles, and there was no black bean sauce to be found. Instead, it was served in a bizarre broth that had absolutely no taste. The vegetables were soggy and the broth was bland. The pork in my Pad Thai was tough and overcooked, and some of the noodles looked like they had been microwaved--they were stuck together in a pile. It didn't even taste like Pad Thai--it tasted like sweet and sour sauce over noodles. The best part came when we told the waitress we wanted to take the left overs home. She asked us if we wanted it all in one box--we told her we wanted separate boxes, but she kept insisting on "one box." Did she really think she was going to throw all that stuff into a single container? We told her to just bring us the take out containers and that we would put the food in ourselves. Overall, we were very disappointed. Both of us have been to Bangkok and have had authentic Thai food. This is more like "Thai food for Western tastebuds." The service was horribly slow and the food was bland. I am so disappointed--I am never coming back here.

Great lunch experience. The ambiance and service were spot on. I had the coconut cove noodles and they were splendid. My guest had the drunkard noodles with the prawns. Awesome flavors and very fresh ingredients. Enjoy!

My girlfriend has gotten takeout from Coconut Bay and the food was excellent. Went to go eat at the restaurant today for lunch and once again the food was top notch!!! However, don't expect good or even decent service. 1. It took them forever to seat us (the restaurant wasn't busy at all). 2. They forgot to place one of our orders. 3. I later ordered a Thai iced tea. The waitress confirmed by repeating my order but she still forgot to place the order. Food is excellent but after the crappy service I won't be returning.

They have moved to a much nicer location. The food was surprisingly decent, even while the service pulled things down. Suggested dishes: Roti with curry sauce ($7.50) not very authentic but crispy and delicious. Chi Chi ($8) nice looking but not very potent. Basil Beef ($11.59) a nice non-curry dish with good flavors. Chicken pumpkin curry ($14.99) came in a nice looking squash and had some really well done curry. A little stingy on the chicken. Spear and Shield ($9.99) a decent vegetable dish. Overall - Very Good Food - Very Good Decor - Very Good Service - Good Value - Good

The place is cozy, modern and clean but the food here is terrible! The Tom Yum Soup was a total disappointment! It was so sweet . The BBQ chicken was overcooked to the max! We will not definitely go back .

Base on location, prices were great! Had skewers, calamari and rice order. Compared to other places I have been, the skewers were moist and tasty! I could have eaten more! The calamari was so crunchy and yummy!!! Wish their serving for calamari was a little bit bigger. The rice order was really good too. Highly recommended.

The new Coconut Bay is my new favorite Thai place. Te pineapple rice is served IN A PINEAPPLE....the Pumpkin Chicken is served IN A PUMPKIN! Okay, i'm a fan of plating. The interior design is beautiful, has good energy, and the bar is very attractive for a thai restaurant. It was clean, nice servers and I enjoyed the music they were playing in the background :o) I went for lunch and want to go back for drinks now. Successful experience.

  • Alice C.

Not sure I can rave so much about this restaurant. The interior is nice and more upscale looking that a typical Thai restaurant, but the food didn't wow me. They did have a nice menu with interesting item names. However, the food was not spectacular (a couple of the black bean items were noodles or rice surrounded by a lot of sauce with very few black beans visible. Mostly flavored corn starch..? The tom yum noodle soup was barely spicy) and the service was slow. So unless someone convince me otherwise, I probably won't come back.

Coconut Bay Restaurant does not disappoint. I have been enjoying consistently fabulous Thai food at this restaurant for a few years now. They recently moved to a new location, also on Howard Street, with a larger and more impressive interior. The owner definitely knows what he's doing because it's an altogether pleasurable experience to dine here... from the service to the food. My favorites... pineapple fried rice served on a hollow pineapple, panang curry, thai barbeque chicken and sticky rice with mango. I've also tried other dishes and suffice it to say that I have been impressed each time. I don't know how they do it but I've brought various friends and colleagues for both lunch and dinner here. They all had to suppress a satisfied burp(!) to be polite. Mind you, it was a struggle.

From the outside, there was so many billboards/announcements posted on the windows, we thought this was a bookstore and almost passed it up. Sunday at 1pm, they weren't that busy but we made reservations anyways. What we swallowed: ROTI WITH CURRY SAUCE: Crispy roti (4 pieces) with light curry sauce. The bread was light and crispy and not too greasy. The curry was very light and runny, but had a good, sweet flavor. TOM KHA (COCONUT) SOUP with TOFU: This broth was really good, tasty and not too sweet. Since we ordered it vegetarian, there was more veggies in here then if we just got it with chicken and just a small handful of veggies. RED CURRY BEEF: Good sauce, it was alright. The beef wasn't too tough but the spiciness was a bit spicy for it being just 'mild'. CURRY VEGGIES: Basically the same thing as curry beef except no beef and WHY WAS IT SO SPICY?!?!? GEEZ! We also ordered this for my vegetarian, non-spicy liking cousin and it was so spicy even for me (and I like spicy). She took one bite, starting sweating, and couldn't eat the rest... only to find big slices of chilies and jalapenos in the curry. I don't think the waitress heard "No spicy!". EGGPLANT CHICKEN: This dish was good. The eggplant wasn't too mushy and the chicken wasn't too tough or salty. DRUNKARD NOODLES with BEEF: These noodles were good and had a good flavor. The beef was a bit chewy. THAI ICED TEA: Served in a pint glass, was all ice and a splash of tea with condensed milk. I think I had two slurps and the whole thing was empty already. Other than the Tom Kha soup, there wasn't really anything special to write about the other dishes. The food was good, but didn't hold any flavors so great that I would crave to come back. Service was OK. We would often have to ask for something (water, spice dish) more than twice before they even brought it to the table and then closing out the check took more than 20 minutes.

2 of us dropped in before a Massage Envy appointment at 2:35 pm. We looked at the menu on the outside of the business, and it said 'lunch served until 3 pm". We were greeted inside, and I specified we were going to want the lunch menu. Friend ordered soup, I ordered Pad Thai and 2 hot teas. When we got the bill, it was $25.00. I called the server over, and she barely understood my questions. I was told we ordered the dinner sizes, even though we had the lunch menu in our hands! Very deceitful. No manager was called over, no ther explanation. I paid the bill, and I will Never return. This type of practice is not appreciated, and I will tell everyone I know to eat else where.

Coconut Bay fulfills my Thai food cravings. It's nearby, decently priced, and delicious. I've been coming here since before it moved to its current location and I have not been disappointed with their products so far. I highly recommend coming here during the lunch time to get their lunch specials. Extremely reasonably priced, great portions, and delicious food. Of course, like with most restaurants, you can only select from their lunch-special menu. But, I am perfectly content with this. I leave full and satisfied with my meal. I really enjoy the curries (the green curry is my favorite because it has a little spiciness and that wonderful taste of Thai basil) and the Thai basil chicken. In case you couldn't tell, I'm a fan of the herb (and by herb, I mean Thai basil... you silly high flyers). The pad thai is also a winner. I will say, however, that the atmosphere of the new location surprised me a bit. It does not yell "THAI RESTAURANT!" right away. Small decorations here and there may allude to it being a Thai restaurant, but it looks more like a classier establishment that would be great for intimate or group dinners. Don't get me wrong. It is very nicely decorated- modern and clean. Maybe I'm just not used to change, and maybe the new look will grow on me. Another change from the old location, definitely for the worse, is that tthe service can be lacking. Wait times can be long when waiting for food or requests. They can be inattentive, slow, and unprofessional. I admit, I occasionally have to keep my arm raised for a while before I grab anyone's attention. And, whether it be negligence, forgetfulness, or whatever other reason there may be, sometimes you don't get what you ask for in a timely manner or not get it at all. Also, there appears to be a minor language barrier with some of the servers. Nothing too difficult to deal with, but when it comes to asking for specific orders or questions, you may not get the answer you'd expect. If you are patient with the service, your experience won't be too bad. Food is delicious. In short: Green Curry: B+ or A- Lunch Special box (includes rice, entree, salad, and egg rolls): A- Price: A (for lunch time specials), B+ or A- (for any other time or anything else) Service: B- or B Tip: I highly recommend coming during the lunch time for the lunch specials. It comes with whatever entree you select, rice, salad, and some egg rolls. Filling, satisfying, delicious, and priced well.

I used to really like this place until their recent relocation. We dined at their new location across the street (which is much larger and very swank) and the service was absolutely horrible! It took about an hour for us to get our entrees and we were the only people dining when we arrived!! When I spoke to the manager about the long wait and lousy service, she dismissed it as growing pains and offered us free drinks and more food. Well since they weren't able to even get what we ordered to uss in a timely fashion, we declined. (We still did not have our complete order at this time.) She never acknowledged that we had a problem with the service and I don't think she even spoke to our waitress, as she only got worse as the night went on. I can honestly say that based on tonight's service, I have NO desire to eat here again!

I have been an occasional client of this restaurant since its grand opening. I have always received very good customer service. The quality of the food has been superb. My favorites are the various chicken dishes. ... They are superb. The other trademark of this restaurant is its clean, quiet and serene setting.

Had dinner here a little while ago and loved it! I loved their Papaya Salad! And their Mint Leaf Surprise was sooo good! I've never had Drunken Noodles so those were a pleasant surprise! Servers were attentive and the food came out fairly quickly which was nice cuz I was starving! Ask for their spice tray if you like your food on the spicier side. Will definitely come here again!

This place is pretty big. Service was a little slow cuz it was super busy for a Wednesday night. Siam Satay with charcoal broiled chicken marinated in Thai spices and served with peanut sauce and a cucumber salad-this was flavorful, the peanut sauce was good, and the salad was refreshing Spicy Angel Wings with fresh chili, garlic and basil-yummy Papaya Pok Pok Salad with shredded green papaya mixed with green beans, Chili, carrots, tomatoes and ground peanuts-love papaya salad, but wish this was spicy Garlic Beef sautéed with garlic, black pepper and Thai spices-not bad at all. Especially with an order of garlic rice. Highway Noodles with pork stir fried with rice noodles, special soy sauce, broccoli and egg-good flavor, but wish it had more sauce Savory Sea Bass topped with Stir fried garlic, fresh chili and crispy sweet basil-good, but watch out for the bones

Only ordered to-go but based on that experience I could only imagine the service if we sat in. But without talking about service, the food was actually very flavorful and good. Got a green curry and a noodle dish. Green curry had a good kick of spice. The noodles were slathered in black bean gravy (it was more like a soup), but was very tasty and only a hint of black bean flavor so it wasn't overwhelming.

Another must-go when I visit the Bay Area. Even though I've moved to Los Angeles for about 10+ years, I still think about the Chilean Sea Bass, Lamb Curry Roti, or even the Pad Thai. I'm not sure if it's a LA thing to make the pad thais really sweet or what, but the one at Coconut Bay just tastes 10 times better than the ones I've had in LA. The Chilean Sea Bass is grilled and seasoned to perfection, so moist and flaky altogether. Oh YUM...to my imaginary Coconut Bay feast. Definitely recommended.

Stopped by for the lunch special today, I've really wanted to try it out since the sign is pretty big and its been up for about the last month now. Quite on a weekday, normally it is really busy on the weekends. Ordered the basil with vegetable for takeout and didn't take too long. Brought it back home to eat and its really nice how they packaged the food, the vegetables were in foil instead of the Styrofoam. And there was also vegetarian egg rolls with the dipping sauce. Gonna try out the other lunch special selections next time!

We just discovered my kids like Thai food now so we are thrilled to finally start eating Thai again. This place is awesome for a family with young kids like us (especially when you eat early like we do). It has beautiful decor, clean bathrooms and the tables are spaced nicely apart so the kids don't feel cramped. It is kid friendly: they brought out kid sized places, plastic cups and smaller utensils without us having to ask, though no kid menus or activities (not a problem: we brought our own). I don't think they expect kids to run around and make a lot of noise, so good for well-behaved kids I guess. I personally prefer it like that: I don't want to eat in a zoo. The food was very tasty, but I think there are some misses. Chicken Satay was really tender, kids loved it (especially eating off a sharp stick). Came with a well-done peanut sauce and cucumber salad. Green curry beef was so tasty, creamy and perfectly spicy. Except the beef was SOOO tough. I prefer dark meat chicken but the waiter told me they only had white meat and yes, it is on the dry side so he suggested the beef (but somehow they manage to make really tender chicken skewers?). I just ate the veggies & sauce. Highway Noodles were so flavorful and came with broccoli so the kids even got their veggies of the day. We paid extra for the shrimp but those were overcooked and not very good at all. In all, I would definitely want to be back just because the food was so tasty. I just need to stick with chicken satay and get vegetable options of everything else. It's still worth it to come back because it was so easy to bring young kids (5 and 3) and I am looking forward to trying non-beef and non-shrimp items to see what else will be good. Also, the place looks really upscale but the service is lacking a bit. No set waiter for your table, just wave down whomever. If you do wave them down, you will get your bill, water, etc. But none of that was automatically done for us. However, everyone was friendly and sweet. Probably just need better training. It looks like a good place for couples too and they have a full bar/happy hour.

The pumpkin curry, if that's all this review was to be about, would garner 5-stars. Hands-down. No contest. I'll return to this place for that dish again, for sure. It's unique, it's some of the tastiest curry I've had (yes, there is a pumpkin flavor to it and there are pumpkin chunks in it), and it draws the ooos and ahhs of onlookers ... and I'm an attention seeker by nature. What I didn't care so much for was the establishment itself. I guess these are new digs for them and I'm sure they're all proud and happy and all ... so sorry to rain on your parade, Coconut Bay, but your space is very noisy and a bit too cold and sterile. The place was pretty full when I visited and the noise of the crowd was pretty incredible. There are a lot of hard surfaces everywhere here, so sound is bouncing around everywhere. Maybe it was just tonight, or maybe it is a function of their space being new, but all the staff seemed harried. There was little connection with the diners and, as I sat at the bar, several servers called in orders to the bartender ... right across my shoulder. Excuse me! How rude! Can't you see I'm eating pumpkin?

This is one of my regular restaurants. The staff knows me by name and I know the menu by heart. My favorite dish is the Coconut Bay Trout, the Pad Thai and I love everything on their lunch menu. The combination lunch deal is one of the best I've seen. They also make a mean Mai Tai!

We went there for dinner tonight. We had cocktails, an appetizer and two entrees. The food was actually good. Service was slow but they were also very busy and the large dining room was full. What ruined our dinner, however, was a heavy cigarette smell in the dining room. There were a couple of chain smoking Asians standing outside the entrance and smoking like a chimney and so the whole dining room was filled with the disgusting smoke smell.

Food: fine, nothing to write home about. We had.the basil chicken and drunkard noodles. Service: awful. They sat us at the bar and apparently told no one that we were ordering food so despite is having menus in front of us and looking bored and playing with the phone, it took forever for them to cone take our orders. Then they accidentally brought our dishes to another couple sitting at the bar and they had ordered the basil chicken lunch special (we had gotten the dinner size) and they left the chicken with them and took the noodles back to the kitchen. A minute later she comes back with the noodles. We're about finished with the noodles and wanted to cancel the chicken except there was no one around to help us. Finally the chicken dish came. When we finished no one was around so I had to walk up there to get the bill. They actually charged us for rice when in fact we had not ordered any. So I think this was about one of the worst experiences in service I've had. Ambience. Fine. They have a bar

Exceeded my expectations when we had a company lunch here a few months ago. The prices here are cheaper than other places during lunch time ($6.95 noodles whaat). I had the drunkard noodles spicy and it was very good. I've been having bad drunken noodles recently but this place hits the spot. My coworker had the spicy basil chicken and it looked good, will get that next time!

Coconut Bay.....What can I say? You satisfied me in a very special way. I wish to say to you khorb koon & sa-wat dee. The Box had many selections, that I did sup. Your generous portions, made me fill up. I spied some pictures, on the wall, of your revered Thai King. Reincarnation makes everything go around Fortunately for me Buddhism, I have found Coconut Bay.....What can I say? You satisfied me in a very special way. Ref from Wikipedia: Massaman curry (Thai: kaeng matsaman, IPA: [ mát.sa .màn]) is a southern Thai dish that is Muslim in origin. It is most commonly made with beef, but can also be made with duck, pork, chicken, or tofu. The flavoring for Massaman curry is called Massaman curry paste (nam phrik kaeng massaman). The dish usually contains coconut milk, roasted peanuts, potatoes, bay leaves, cardamom pods, cinnamon, palm sugar, fish sauce, and tamarind sauce. Muslim, and later Portuguese, traders brought spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, cumin, cloves and nutmeg from the Middle East and India to the south coast of Thailand. The dish is served with rice and sometimes with pickled ginger or "achat", an accompaniment made with cucumber and chili peppers macerated in vinegar. Etymology:The name Massaman is thought to be derived from the word Musulman, a linguistic variation of the word Muslim. One of the earliest Thai recipes of the 19th century AD recorded it as "Mud-saman".

Came here with a friend yesterday around 2. It was quiet but there were some other tables of customers, so it wasn't empty. Had great service from the staff. The food came out fast and was so delicious. The garlic chicken was to die for. We got the garlic rice and the broccoli beef, too. Everything was so full of flavor, we finished everything...and the portions pretty large too.

My family loves this place. I always order food here before we moved to another state. I would just call them and order and tell them were on our way and when we get there the food is all ready. More like coconut fail. OMG, this roti with curry cost me a whopping $10! Came in wanting thai food, and ordered their green curry and roti and with tax and tip it was $25! For what? A small thai dish that I could have gotten at the mall for cheaper that wouldn't be as watery and have more ingredients, that's what. Oh, and a lukewarm roti with no curry sauce. You seriously want to charge me $3 for some dipping sauce? Um, no. But they did and I finally added it to my roti.

I have been here thrice to date and the experience has been good so far. The food is consistently good tasting, not to mention "good-looking." We make it a point to have Singha beer every time. Goes well with most dishes. Outside of this, we have not had less than pleasant experience with the service. In fact, we had a positive one. My plate was not taken away when I was still eating, the water no ice was actually room temperature as it should be (water no ice does not mean chilled water as most other places think it is,) we were asked for dessert, our order was repeated back to us (always, always a good practice,) and best of all, they don't have a silly no sharing policy for the kind of place they are. We split two lunch specials between three of us and had two appetizers. More than enough food between us and they were OK with that. I am reserving the fifth star because it was not a superlatively exceptional experience but I will definitely go there again. Also, the place has multiple sections, a bar I think. Should be good for birthdays and large groups. I never speak about decor but they do have a nice ambience. A touch here and there but does not seem overdone. Good enough for me. And all of this for a perfectly reasonable price.

We ordered food for pick up so I can't speak to the service or the ambiance of the restaurant. However, the service over the phone was very pleasant and the food was ready on time and it was warm when we brought it home, thanks for this, Coconut Bay. First thoughts, a bit overprice, as others have mentioned. I feel that we could get the same quality food elsewhere, for a fraction of the price, no doubt. Pad Thai was tasty, but nothing spectacular to warrant the price. We ordered a beef dish as well, super heavy on the garlic and a bit on the greasy side, but also, tasty - high priced, but decent quality. Nothing to run back for, but it did satisfy the craving. I hear that the appetizers are good here, but I don't think we will be going back.

I came here for happy hour and dinner tonight and this place is pretty solid. It's in a bigger and newer establishment, with a very clean and chill ambiance. Happy hour was really good and pleasantly surprised me! We had a glass of Chardonnay and an IPA. After ordering our drinks our bartender told us that our drinks came with an appetizer. WHAT?!! That's awesome! We got the lady fingers and the chicken satay. I didn't expect much since they were free but both were surprisingly tasty! The lady fingers were tasty and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. We moved over to a table for dinner and ordered the following: yellow curry, roti, potstickers, highway noodles, crab fried rice, some kind of fish, and duck curry. Everything tasted good and I was happy with my meal. It wasn't the best Thai food I've ever had, but it was definitely good. The best things I had were the yellow curry, fried rice, and the fish. All three were well prepared. The roti was very different from other rotis that I've had in the past. It was thick, deep friend, and crunchy. It was good, but unusual and not what I expected. Service was excellent throughout dinner and we ended our meal with the triple chocolate mousse. I give it a two thumbs up for sure! This thing couldn't have been better :). Great way to end the meal.

Situation - Lunch with co-workers in May 2015 - Appetizers ordered: Roti with Curry Sauce, Ladyfinger Rolls - I ordered the Lunch Special Yellow Chicken Curry combo ($8.95) Pros - Great service - Nice presentation of food - Nice decor - The appetizers were tasty - Good lunch specials Cons - The chicken was a okay, a bit bland and dry

Big Restaurant, Clean w/ a Bar. I'll be returning but likely on select dishes. Lunch seems to have a better deal, you can get a meal for 9 bucks. I've lived in Asia for almost a decade and have traveled to Thailand quite frequently. This place reminds me of the authentic flavours of Thailand, more on the sweeter side though but that may be to tailor to the taste of those in Burlingame. Was here for both lunch and dinner in the same week during the Warriors finals last week. We ordered the following and here's my rating and comments for each: VERY GOOD - Lady Fingers, Very Good would order / highly recommend - Sweet Basil Pork (Pad Ka-Prao) w/ special request for ground pork, Very Good, would order again/ highly recommended - Duck Noodle Soup, Very Good, would order / highlight recommended GOOD - Fish Cakes, Good - Sweet Basil Calamari, Good, little on the sweet side - Green Curry w/ Chicken, Good, flavourful/ fragrant could have been better spicier but that may be bc I'm a spice freek JUST OK - Tom Yum Kum, OK, can be spicier and use more lemons NOT GOOD - Roti, Not good, would not order unless you like not so fresh, hard like Roti they sell at Costco - Highway Noodles, Not good, noodles are not the fresh kind overall presentation sucked and def was not the tasty kind. I'd prefer the Osha Thai version of Pad See Yew

My mom and daughter were famished and frustrated after waiting a few hours for me to get my hair colored and cut. Though I got recommendations for a few chi-chi eateries nearby, I opted for Thai. My mom got Thai potstickers(she had already had dinner). I can no longer eat fried food(long health-related story) but my mom and daughter raved about them. Then my daughter got her Kid Fried Rice; there is a Kid's Menu! Too many ethnic restaurants are missing out on providing kids with options so I appreciated the choices as well as the overall presentation. Kids can't resist happy faces. I opted for the Peanut Sauce Vegetables over Brown Rice. It was delicious: just the right amount of sweet with the veggies steamed to perfection. Service was attentive but not meddlesome. I don't think I've ever received a check so quickly. It came in a clever wooden box and the three of us had a great dinner for $35.

I came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner - so I can only attest to what their food is like when you use their buffet style. [atmosphere] Since the walls are black and most of the decor are dark in color, it looks pretty elegant for a $$ restaurant. I think it would make a good place for a family gathering/dinner, birthday parties for people in their 20s or older, weddings, baby showers and other similar sorts of events without breaking your wallet. It's a restaurant that I think you COULD dress up for, but not necessarily. [food] The buffet we had I thin had about 8 different types of food. Yellow curry, Pad Thai, ladyfinger rolls, siam satay (I think), and two other meat dishes I wasn't sure of. The ladyfinger rolls were really dry. I really liked the yellow curry and the pad thai. The other foods were pretty good. I think though the place uses quite a bit of MSG because the dishes weren't salty, but I kept reaching for my water and I'm not someone that drinks a lot of water between my meals.. but it allowed me to try out their pineapple juice! It's a bit pulp-y, but it tasted like real pineapples. [service] considering there had to have been at least 100 people there, the service was really great. They did run out of food on couple occasions, but refilled quickly. There was a lot of mouths to feed and it was after everyone had gotten their food once so I think that it was pretty good service. [overall] I'd recommend it to be a good place for a large private party or any time if you want pretty decent Thai food.

What has happened to this place? Used to be one of our favorites but after the poor service tonight I doubt we'll return. Neglected to bring silverware and napkins; never came by to pick up empty serving dishes or otherwise check on us; **forgot** to bring out an entree - once reminded she re-heated (somewhat) the dish and delivered to our table very much too late. And with not a wisp of apology nor offer to make things up to us. My table wasn't singled out; even the diner behind me asked his waitress, "Are we invisible?" The wait staff was seldom seen in the dining area. No checking on diners. Nowhere to be seen. EXCEPT I saw four of them all huddled at the cashier stand, chatting it up. If there was a manager I certainly never saw one around.

I don't have many go-to Thai spots, but this is certainly one of them. Their new space is much bigger than the original restaurant with modern, yet traditional décor. I normally come around peak dinner or lunch hours with my family and it is usually crowded. For the first time, my bf and I came for a late lunch around 3pm with only 2 other groups inside the restaurant. It was our first real meal of the day so of course we had hungry eyes. We started with the lady finger rolls, which is basically their version of fried imperial rolls. It came with 6 big pieces, fresh and hot with a light sweet and sour sauce. Another must order for appetizers are their spicy angel wings. This is the epitome of all the generic "Asian zing" flavors places like wing stop and buffalo wild wings try to imitate. It is oozed with a sweet sauce with a spicy kick and I love how the basil adds the extra flavor. The wing and drumsticks are pretty big and come with at least 8 pieces. For our main entrees, we went with the yellow curry with chicken and basil beef. We both really enjoyed the chicken curry, the sauce was really milky and not too curry-y. The chicken was really tender and there were good amount of onions, carrots and soft potatoes. The beef was spicy and not as tender as the chicken, but the sauce was very flavorful. It came with mushrooms, bell pepper and other veggies. Half way through the entrees we were super stuffed and almost forcing ourselves to finish the food. The chicken curry was done and we ended up taking the beef to-go. Next time we for sure won't order as much with just the two of us. The service was good, but our food took a little long to come out. Our appetizers came out one at a time and probably waited another 25 mins for our entrees. We didn't think they'd be that busy since not many people were in the restaurant. It is a little on the pricier side, so for 4 dishes our bill was close to $60. Next time, it would be good to catch their lunch specials.

Went here for lunch to celebrate a coworker's birthday. The feeling of the restaurant is definitely more formal, but you can get bento boxes for lunch at a good price. I got the chicken with the basil sauce and my friend got the chicken with the peanut sauce. Both were good, but I haven't been inspired to go back. I do like that the bento boxes come with rice, salad, and egg rolls for only $9.

It was my first time here with other people who had been to this restaurant several times. A few of the persons in the party ordered a majority of the many items for the large group to share - the downside with this, I lost track of which items were ordered (though the upside was that I got to try a number of different dishes)! Anyhow, the food was delicious and spicy (goodness)! Also, vegetarian-friendly which was a plus! With regard to appetizers, the Roti with Curry Sauce was HELLA GOOD (!); the Garden Fresh Rolls with the dipping sauce = yummy. The soup in the coconut milk was very delightful. The Drunkard Noodles and other curry/vegetable dishes were very flavorful & tasty as well. We got a few dishes with tofu (substituted for the meat). And, I was a FAN of the fried rice! BTW, a lot of options on the food menu. The mint mojito was good though not very special - it tasted like any other mint mojito. Though the LYCHEE MARTINI was VERY yummy! = it tasted and smelled very fresh! ***I recommend drinking the lychee martini BEFORE consuming any spicy food items though - as having the drink with spicy food may offset the flavor of the lychee. Overall, great experience. The service was good. Parking could've been tough though I was able to find a spot not too far.

Went here today for lunch with three friends. Here is the rundown on what we had. 1) Ginger paste pork. This dish was delivered to me cold. I asked for it to be heated up. They microwaved it (you can tell if your meal is reheated by a microwave if the dish it is served in all of a sudden becomes uncomfortably hot. The pork was cooked properly, just not warm. Post-microwave the pork was overcooked (of course). They didn't bother to remove the strings on the snow peas - yuck. The sauce had good flavor and the green beans and carrots were cooked properly, but I can do a lot better at home. 2) "Legendary" Pad Thai. Overcooked pork, overcooked noodles, overcooked veg. Sense a theme here? Not only didn't live up to the "legendary" lable, barely made "edible." 3) Mint leaf surprise. We asked if they had any "larb" since it did not appear anywhere on the menu. The server confirmed that this dish was indeed larb. Larb is ground meat - always, not sometimes, always. The meat was tough and dry and overcooked and NOT ground. It did not even resemble larb. Final complaint... I am ALARMED at the new trend toward ordering rice separately from the dish. I expect ALL Indian, Mediterranean. Mexican and Chinese food to be served with rice. Who doesn't do this. Well, these guys for one. I ordered garlic rice and it was actually good, cooked properly with plenty of garlic - both raw and toasted, very well done. Overall, would not go here again. In California, there is a Thai restaurant on ever block. If you don't make Thai right, why not just go down the street. next time I will.

If you're looking for a place to satisfy your palate this is the place to go. The great selection of appetizers will make you drool. I tried the Pumpkin curry and it was sooo delicious. That dish was a complete meal already. The Highway noodles has to be ordered everytime we go there, it's the family favorite. We tried all the fish dishes and they're all outstanding. To top off the great meal, the fried banana with ice cream and a drizzle of caramel is to die for. This restaurant is highly recommended!

i came here with 3 of my girlfriends for an early dinner a couple of sundays ago. at 5pm on a sunday (or any day really), it's not hard to get a table and the restaurant is still pretty quiet. we decided to order family style: 1. roti with curry sauce - pan fried east indian flat bread served with curry dipping sauce 2. papaya pok pok salad - shredded green papaya mixed with green beans, chili, carrots, tomatoes and peanuts. this was very refreshing, but i had a hard time tasting the papaya, maybe b/c it was sliced so thinly and there was a lot of dressing on the salad. 3. lettuce wraps (special of the day) - vermicelli noodles, charbroiled chicken (chicken satay), bean sprouts, roasted peanuts, cucumber slices, shredded carrots, red onions, and peanut sauce wrapped in a piece of lettuce (do it yourself style). these were my favourite since i loved all of the ingredients that i could choose from...the chicken, especially, was very tender and juicy and the peanut sauce was the perfect touch for the wraps. 4. legendary pad thai with prawns - traditional thai noodles, stir fried with bean curd, bean sprouts, scallions, and prawns, topped with ground peanuts. they served us a huge portion, and i especially enjoyed the pieces of jumbo prawns that sat atop the noodles. 5. sticky sweet rice with mango - sticky rice, sweetened, with fresh mango slices. the sticky rice was very good, sweet, but not too sweet, and mango was fresh, although not as ripe as i'd like my mango to be. the portions were definitely very generous, so much so, that we had a good amount of leftovers to take home after. the service was solid, as the order-taking, food delivery to table, and ringing up of the bill were all done very promptly. they also ensured that our water glasses were refilled periodically. including tax and tip, we each paid $17, which was a great price considering how much food we had. i'd definitely return to coconut bay the next time i'm in burlingame! note: they don't take reservations, but if you come early enough, you won't have a problem getting a table.

I was here a couple of days ago with my daughter and wife. I often go to various Thai restaurants because my wife is a fan of Thai food. We found this restaurant to be incomparable to most of the Thai restaurants in or around the Peninsula. With full bar and big dinning area and various rooms for group party, this place is also great for family and friends gathering or office party. Service: Fantastic, attentive, friendly Ambiance: Cleanest and classical with comfy seating arrangement. It feels like seating in a peaceful Buddhist monastery in Thailand. Food: Young Coconut curry with sea food - a lot of shrimps and fish pieces. The vegetable is so fresh and healthy - not over cooked. Pad Thai - not oily and made with right amount of spices and salt level. Yummy. Banana fried with Ice cream (wrong name!)- I think that was the best dessert I've ever had in my life. I am dying to go back at least for that dessert. We will definitely go back and explore more and more stuff.

Our big group had a dinner reservation on a Saturday. My pork highway noodles and my wife's chicken pad Thai were tasty. The food definitely needed hot sauce, but the flavor was good otherwise. The rest of the experience was bad... 1. It took the waitstaff about 15 minutes to figure out that the kitchen couldn't fill someone's order (out of lamb curry) and that he'd have to order something else. 2. Entree arrival time was incredibly spaced out (15-30 minutes between waves of dishes), with the last two dishes arriving OVER AN HOUR after the first dish. Inquiries about missing dishes were dismissed with canned responses, e.g. "on its way right now." When we asked about the last dish, the waitress tried to argue that we had already received it. Wrong. (We weren't dining family-style, so it was plain to see someone hadn't received his food.) 3. There was no manager at the restaurant to resolve the problem. Nobody was in charge to take responsibility for the screw-ups. 4. The waitstaff didn't know how to handle our complaints, seemingly uncertain what they could offer as compensation. (After a long period of deliberation, they comped the two extremely late dishes and took 20% off the bill. meh.) 5. A busboy spilled curry on a member of our group. He was unable to even produce a clean napkin for her to wipe it off. The ridiculous wait put a damper on the evening (and delayed our post-dinner plans). Thankfully we had good company, but it was awkward that half our friends were waiting and waiting for their food. food: 4 stars value: 3 stars service: 1 star overall: 1 star tl;dr: Where's the rest of the food?

Beautiful spacious dining and a plus is the easy parking. There's no wait for table on Sat nite dining and that too is a super plus. There's no wait because the restaurant is huge yet comfy. Tom yum soup was good that it's not spicy. Fresh mushroom were a nice add on. We ordered Satay and the peanut sauce accompaniment was sweet and tangy. The cucumber pickles were yummy that I asked for seconds and the nice server was very obliging and sweet about it. The basil chicken was good with jasmine rice. Overall nice service, nice decor, spacious dining area and we will return

Thai food is everywhere. But it is hard to find a good Thai restaurant. Thai is come of my favorite cuisines and yes, I have been to Thailand before. Coconut Bay is pretty high on my ranking in the local area if I need a sit down place to eat Thai food. Great ambiance, full bar, fun cocktails, appetizers are really good, and of course their dinners are fantastic. Price is standard for dinner. Only thing that I don't really like are their noodle dishes here. I have given them several occasions to prove me wrong but, not yet. Curries are done very well, so now I just stick to their curries. Try it if you are around. I think their food will make you happy.

This review is only based off drinks and happy hour. I have been here three times during happy hour and have sat at the bar. They have great cocktails: my favorite is their green tea mojito I've consistently had great service from the bartenders and I really can't believe the fact that they actually give out FREE and tasty small plates during their Happy Hour. I love the chicken satay and eggrolls! Their menu looks great. I will definitely be back for a full dinner sometime.

I had been coming here for years. I order pretty much the same thing. Spring rolls with shrimp and chicken satay. A few weeks ago I noticed the satay was a little tough and less seasoned and the spring rolls were bland and so was the sauce, weird. I was then informed the chef quit and the owner was doing the cooking. I was disappointed because that two things I love were not the same and not even good enough to suck it up because they have an awesome happy hour. I found out they had a new chef and she was suppose to be great. I went back and ordered my spring rolls (the pic that is listed) and yuck! The first one the shrimp tasted spoiled. I tried the second one and the same. I sent it back only to be told "they are fresh". Yeah right! I have NEVER sent the rolls back and it was so obvious that they were not fresh it concerned me. I then ordered the appetizer chicken satay, that was meh. Tender but under seasoned. I felt a little queasy so I asked for the tap carbonated water. When my check came they charged me $1.50 for my water, really?! I never got sick or anything but I'm pretty sure I would have had I eaten the entire portion. I'm giving 3 stars because it was delicious up until a month or so ago. Whomever the chef is that left I sure wish I knew where she went. Hard to find good Thai.

Honestly, it can be probably be the best TASTING thai food restaurant near San Mateo (which really says a lot), but service was slow, food was SO MEDIOCRE, and a lot pricier for a regular thai restaurant. I think they were going for a "higher end" type of feel and seating arrangement, but just because you have lap napkins and tablecloths does not mean you have to make mediocre food and have crappy service.

This place is delicious! Best Thai food in Burlingame. Good service as well. For appetizers I recommend the lady fingers and the chicken skewers. For main course the drunken noodles are delicious. As well as the pineapple fried rice (actually served in a pineapple). I am not a huge curry fan but my family members that ordered it loved it. Definitely 5 star worthy!

Stopped here for a late lunch after shopping on Burlingame Ave. Great service! I got their lunch special which is reasonably price at only $8.95. I ordered the yellow chicken curry which came with rice, salad, & a couple of veggie egg rolls. It was delicious.

So the Manager sent my girlfriend a gift card to make up for the misunderstanding which I thought was very nice - so I've upgraded my review back up - but unfortunately while the food was very good - the overall experience still doesn't sit well. But we will go back to try it - not in a big party and hopefully between food and a better experience this can come up a little more... But if you are to have a big party there - be sure to ask about cake cutting charges even if you don't bring a cake - for some reason cupcakes still require a charge from them - even if you pass it out yourself. AND double check on the rice charge. I think my girlfriend was pretty generous - it wasn't like she was trying to cut back - she even ordered bottles of wine there for her guests... so it's not about cutting cost, it's about paying for what you have eaten or services you've received. I know when my sister had her party in Redwood City (and I won't mention the restaurant) but they didn't charge per person - they only charged per bowl they served and my sister specifically asked for a certain number of bowls... and if we needed more she asked and that's what we got charged for - that seemed fair....

One of the best Thai places I've had the liberty of eating at. The service was prompt, the staff was friendly, and most importantly: their food was amazing. I would highly recommend the Pad Thai. The noodles are buttery and the sauce tasted amazing. Their quail has proven to be a great start to the meal. Extremely tasty, especially with the sauce it comes with. Then, there's the chicken lettuce wraps. The only thing I would caution with the wraps is that you may get very full very fast from eating those alone. Otherwise they were also delicious! Their red curry surprised me. There was exactly the right amount of spiciness with tons of flavor behind it. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the chicken I ordered with it was tender and succulent. In short, not a single negative thing as far as my experience went. Fast, friendly service. Delicious food. Decent pricing. You can't get any better than that. The next time I get a hankering for some Thai food I would most definitely come back here again. I would highly recommend it to anyone else who loves Thai!

Thai food is just about my favorite thing. Since I've stopped eating carbs, I've avoided Thai restaurants because I was worried the temptation would be too much. I was shopping, inter alia, on Burlingame Avenue and decided to try Coconut Bay. I had heard great things about it and noticed they are always full. I sat at the bar to avoid the wait, which was a great plan. I ordered the chicken satay and a garlic chicken dish (sans rice, sans noodles). Both dishes were delicious! I love peanut sauce, and CB's sauce accompanying the chicken satay was mighty flavorful--sweet and tangy and downright delicious. The garlic chicken was dynamite as well. I'm pretty sure I must have reeked of garlic for several days afterwards, but it was well worth it. I could not get the garlic flavor out of my mouth for the entire evening! I must have smelled like one of those crazy hipsters on Bart (garlic pores + musty old apartment... minus the old apartment must). After dinner and a couple of drinks, I decided it would be a good idea to go shoe shopping. I found a gorgeous pair of shoes and went to pay for them when I realized I lost my CC. I ran back to CB to get my card in a panic and the bartender had kept it for me at the bar. Whew! I'm a fan!

Ordered ahead for take out for an early dinner. The interior was quite nice, enticing me to return. Friendly staff greeted me and had our food ready on time. The restaurant looks to have some decent lunch specials in addition to the reasonable dinner entrees. We tried the Bean Curd Eggplant (excellently spicy), Jasmine Rice and Shrimp Pad Thai. Each item kept well on my drive, and was delicious upon consumption at home. I hope to be back!

Back in the Bay area on business, and staying near the airport in Burlingame. When I come up here, I usually stay either at the Embassy Sts. Burlingame, or So. SF... but I prefer Burlingame. And because I'm driven by food, I prefer Burlingame for the greater selection of restaurants. For Thai, I was relying on yelp. The problem is that many of the Thai restaurants are running 3.5 stars..... so it's hard to separate out the "best guess." When this happens, I usually look at the "number of reviews." And Coconut Bay had over 300, compared to other local spots with under 100. I ordered three items; vegetable spring rolls, fried (as opposed to "fresh"), chicken satay, and lad nar with brocolli and beef. My entire bill was $28.00, a "cheap date" as far as expensing to my company, and still reasonable if paying out of my pocket. The quality of all three items was good....... not the best I've ever tasted, certainly, but better than many of the "Thai Restaurant Wanna-Be's" that I've tried in the Bay area. I was a "to-go" customer, so ordering when I got there meant I had time to chat with the young Thai hostess up front. I told her about my two years in Asia during the mid to late 60's, and we shared my "historical prices" for Thai food from the 60's, with her relating current prices in Bangkok, as her parents are still there. I liked the atmosphere, and saw a reasonable number of filled tables, with clients who looked like they were enjoying their food. I'm bookmarking Coconut as one of my "OK for Thai" dinner spots. And I know I'll be back. Question is... will I be hungry for Thai on my next trip North?

For our lunch food run. I only tried the PadThai which is okay as I had better. Never dined in though so I cant speak for service and other dishes on the menu. It wont hurt to try.

Where do I even begin? I was craving for some thai food this weekend because yesterday I had some good thai food at Stockton and I wanted to eat thai again today. My friend told me that coconut bay is nasty and expensive but I wanted to try it myself. He was right. Not just the food that tasted dry and nasty, the service was terrible. It was Mother's Day, me and my mom wanted to try some thai food but we were both disappointed. First, when we got our food, it was all wrong, we just ignore that. Also it was really expensive too. A plate of rice is two dollars and it was really really small. The food wasn't so great too I rather eat at mcdonalds than here to be honest. The place is run by little high school kids who think they are always right. They gave us the meanest look when we didn't want an dish because we had too much. This place shouldn't even be here

I come here pretty often with my family when I'm in town and have never been disappointed. For appetizers, I've tried both the spicy angel wings, which are great. I also have tried the roti with curry dipping sauce, which I will probably start getting every time I go there. My mom usually doesn't even like curry, but she did like this appetizer. I've tried both the green curry and pumpkin curry, which are also delicious. They have great presentation for the pumpkin curry, it's served in an actual pumpkin. They also have really yummy cocktails here which is a plus! I definitely plan on continuing to come here when I'm in town.

What a huge disappointment! I've been wanting to try Coconut Bay for about 8 months now after reading the rave reviews but after mine and my husbands visit a few weeks ago and reading the latest reviews it would appear that since moving to the new location their standards have dropped. Real shame, as the restaurant is really quite swanky but what's a nice restaurant when the food doesn't match up to the decor? While my husband and I were in the restaurant we didn't appear to have one particular server. A male took our order but then 2 different females brought us our food and not one of them bothered to check back on us until we were brought the check. Which given the quality of the food was needed. Also the lady that brought our main meals out just dumped our food on the table knocking my Fork on the floor before turning and walking off. No replacement utensil was brought so I had to spend the next 5 minutes trying to flag someone down. Starter: Roti with Curry Sauce ($7.50) yelp.com/biz_photos/coco… Meager portion and quality. Roti is typically thin and crispy this was thick, doughy and under cooked. Not to mention also very greasy. The accompanying Curry sauce was good though. Main: Yellow Chicken Curry ($10.99) yelp.com/biz_photos/coco… Tasty sauce but not a great deal of Chicken. My husband and I split it and had maybe 5 small pieces each. The Onions were also not cut up small enough and most were bigger than the pieces of Chicken. I liked the addition of the Cucumber Salad ( yelp.com/biz_photos/coco… ) on the side. Main #2: BBQ Chicken ($12.99) yelp.com/biz_photos/coco… So dry! My husband was first to try it and I thought he was exaggerating how dry it was when he said it was like a sponge but one bite and I was gasping for water. I tried dipping it in the Yellow Curry sauce which didn't help in the slightest. I could only eat 3 or 4 bites. The guy that took our order reappeared just as we were brought the check so we aired our concerns regarding the food to him and he was nice enough to take the Roti off of the bill for us which sort of made up for the poor food and service a little. Likely to return? I highly doubt it. My husband and I have tried almost 20 Thai restaurants since moving to the Bay area 2 years ago and Coconut Bay is among the bottom 5.

Where to start! Pookie (owner) and the whole staff were amazing! This restaurant is hands on the best venue for a practical wedding reception. I recently found out you can have the ceremony in the restaurant as well! Pookie is very helpful and accommodating to all needs and wants for the reception. She made our wedding go very smoothly and stress free. She helped with the decoration and made sure everything is 100% to our liking. Also, she and her staff kept everyone happy, we had some guests who decided to order on their own without our knowledge due to some special reasons, she made sure that they were helped. She was my hero in making our special day STRESS FREE! Also all of our guests commended the restaurant for the food and ambiance! They all enjoyed the food and the venue! Thank you for the wonderful experience Coconut Bay!

Loved the Tai food here. We've gone twice now and both were consistently tasty and very spicy as we asked for that. We have trouble getting actual spicy food but they listened at coconut bay and it was delish. Panang Curry is always my go to and this one didn't let me down. Eggplant is also amazing!

Favorite Thai restaurant in Burlingame! Food was good, and somewhat authentic (a bit westernized). Got the Phad Thai, Tom Yum, etc., which were all pretty good. Service is good during the weekdays when they are less busy - service can get bad on weekends, especially when they have parties. They get 5-stars because of their Thai Ice Tea Ice Cream!! Amazing and one of the few places I have found it.

Just ok.. nothing special. Paying for ambience. Ambience: 4 stars This place seems like it'd be great for happy hour & drinks, since there's a lively bar scene - they have doors that open up in the front, leading to an outdoor area with high tables. The interior is also designed nicely, adorned with lots of gold fixtures and decorations. Moderate noise level, so great for conversations with good company. Food: 3 stars. My 2 friends & I shared 4 dishes: Roti Prata - not your typical roti - it was thick & drenched in oil, rather than flaky & layered like I'm used to - also, it came in 4 small squares, rather than the traditional large round piece that you peel/cut pieces off from yourself. Beef Satay Skewers - meat was tough & not as tender as I'd liked - while I usually expect to just slide the meat down the skewer with my fork, I had to physically use my knife to slice off each piece from around the wooden stick. Highway Noodles with Prawns - like Pad See Ew - this dish was pretty good. Sweet Basil Chicken - delicious, though I wish portions were larger Service: 2 Stars. Service could be greatly improved. It's not that they were rude or anything (they were actually very friendly), I just think they could better allocate their time. It took us 10 minutes to flag down our waitress to order, and then at the end, 10 minutes to flag her down to pay our check. However, during the meal, she stopped by our table FIVE times, often even interrupting our lively conversations, to ask "How is the food?" ... I think usually when people look happy, are chatty, and have finished the food on their plates, they're likely enjoying their meal - thus, this time could be allocated to maybe taking other tables' orders (or getting their bills), since they were probably waiting for her like we did. Just a tip....! OVERALL: my meal was enjoyable since I got to catch up with friends over good food in a great ambiance. However, I left a bit hungry as portions were small, while prices were high. I recommend the highway noodles & sweet basil chicken, but service needs improvement.

Order take through Door Dash for the first time and the food wash excellent. Even my boyfriend who says he hates Thai like the meal. He's not very adventurous and much to my chagrin hates curry but we still managed to find several dishes that he loved. In fact we regularly order from door dash and coconut bay is the first place we've ordered from where he hasn't given me any complaints. Although I do agree with some of the Yelpers regarding price and portions, we've paid $80 (for 3) at various other places and have been very dissatisfied. We loved everything we got, it was flavorful and spicy and tasted fresh. Much better than most Chinese food delivery. We were big fans of the pot stickers, not like the traditional pot stickers you get from Chinese restaurants, these were on a whole other level. I loved the chicken with the flat noodles and the coconut and garlic rice were on point. We will definitely add this place to our weekly take out orders!

Not impressed. Service is fast and friendly, but the pad Thai was greasy. They also served my lunch on a paper plate with plastic utensils. Wow, really?! I asked for a real fork and the waitress did bring one. At 1pm there was only one other table here. I probably won't be back.

Best things that evening were their Mint Surprise grilled beef appetizer and the Thai Fantasy drink. Rest of the items tried (both main courses) were either too rubbery to notice there was flavor, or included far too much skin to detect actual meat. Specifically, those dishes were Roasted Chili Prawns & Calamari, and Tangy Roasted Duck. Nonetheless, still had pleasant enough visit with my dad here, which itself helps raise the star level up. Service was decent. Not even the best Thai food (I know a guy...), but if you don't intend to spend a fortune nor purchase fully authentic cultural cuisine, you can still find certain items that fit your fancy. My second visit, should there be one, would include different main courses. There apparently is a second location under same ownership a few blocks away. Might try that out for comparison's sake. I usually eat in SF every weekend, so I simply can't help but constantly compare at all times. This gets about 2.5 stars, almost. Atmospherically, at least three stars, but that might be misleading.

I love Coconut Bay! I never tried Thai food before I found this place, and no I love it! I come here all the time for business meetings with clients and even came for my bachelorette dinner. I think the service is great, and my favorite dishes are the legendary pad thai and the red curry (i like chicken in both) and if i feel like splurging, I go for the pineapple fried rice, which is also stellar. Overall i highly recommend this as I grew up in Burlingame and don't like much else of the cuisine there.

I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place yet. I have been here 100 times, literally. The food is amaze, and the service is good! Get the drunkin noodles and any curry with coconut rice! Super yum! If you're feeling really thai get a Chang beer with ice! :) f*ck I miss Bangkok ;-)

I walk past this place a few times a week when I'm taking the dog for her evening constitutional. It's a really nice looking restaurant with warm lighting, slick decorations, and a decent size menu of options to choose from. My wife and I have been planning to walk up here for dinner, but today I ended up here for lunch because the place I usually go to was closed for a family emergency. After we sat down, one of my friends happened to look on Yelp and see that our other friend had already Yelp'ed the place and didn't think it was that great. That made me nervous since I trust my Yelp friends' opinions on places pretty much implicitly (especially this particular friend). I ordered the bbq pork lunch special. When it showed up the actual pork and noodles part of the dish was pretty small and the noodles were all stuck together in a huge ball. It tasted ok, but I ended up having to cut them up with a knife. The pork was very lean, but didn't have much flavor at all. The lunch came with a salad which was the largest part of the meal with a heap of iceberg lettuce and some watery dressing. Actually, the largest part of the meal was the bowl of dipping sauce that accompanied two small cut up fried spring rolls. Seriously, there was enough sauce for 10 spring rolls. There was a movie I saw last year that was a big disappointment for me called Prometheus. It was a beautiful looking movie that had all the ingredients for success, but it just didn't come together into anything. At one point in the movie one of the characters tells another character to "try harder". I'd say that applies to both that movie and this restaurant. Like I said it's a super nice looking place and the staff are really friendly, but the food was just sort of bland by comparison. If the food was more flavorful, this place would be awesome!

We went here for my father in law's bday. The restaurant is very nice and if you are here for happy hour the drinks are 50% plus an appetizer but after 25 minutes we still never received the satay and since our party arrived we just told the bartender to close our bar tab. The staff is friendly and best of all they were able to take our reservation to seat 17 people. The only downside is the price for the amount of food compared to other Thai restaurants. More fillers are used in their dishes than meat. If I'm in the area during happy hour, I'll be back but not sure if I'll be back for dinner.

I have now eaten here twice and both times was diss appointed. The food here is just plain and flavorless and reminds me at times if cheap Chinese food..greasy and salty with nothing memorable. The yellow curry had undercooked yeggies and no flavor an the three chicken dishes I tried were extremely bland. The worst us that the rice for all dishes is 3-5 dollars extra and it tastes awful! Our rice each time arrives cold an tastes like it's been sitting overnight..not fresh at all. I had high hopes since I love dining out in Burlingame but I will not be returning for a third dissapointment.

I'm not a big fan of Thai food but this place had plenty of options. It was a good atmosphere and they had a decent drink menu. It was clean and not too loud. I had the spicy Thai chicken and that was pretty good. My girlfriend had the more traditional Thai cuisine like a soup and then some noodle dish. I wasn't a fan but she liked it. It is a great place that has a good mix for everyone

I can not tell you all enough what an amazing place this is. Especially to hold any event of your choosing. This place is my best friend Amy's FAVORITE restaurant so we decided to have her baby shower here. This is a great find because a lot of places don't hold private parties or impose ridiculous minimums that make everything so expensive. Everyone was so nice to us from beginning to end. The whole staff was so accommodating. They opened up early for us and let us decorate the back room which was the perfect size for our party of about nine. It will hold about 25. They even created Amy a special menu so people can choose what they wanted from a list of items selected by the restaurant. They even printed up menus. It was just so nice for a small event. It really added an elegant touch. There were other people in the restaurant because of course they had to open it up to everyone but the way everything is situated, I didn't even notice and everyone pretty much left us alone. The space is just beautiful too. Very modern with mood lighting to highlight your floral centerpieces. The food was so delicious I tried Thai tea for the first time which was so yummy. Slightly sweet and creamy. We had a list of items to choose from that ranged from noodles to curry. We were presented with two appetizers, the dumplings and the egg roll. So yummy. The dumpling was crispy with a mayo sauce on top. The egg roll had chicken I think with a sweet sauce. I decided on the Pad Thai with shrimp. Thin noodles, slightly sauced with fresh shrimp. I haven't had Pad Thai since I moved and it was so yummy. Not spicy at all. I love this place. Our event was a hit. Thank you to the whole staff for helping us host Amy's baby show. I can't wait for this to be my new regular spot.

Great Thai in Downtown Burlingame. They recently moved to a larger location. One of my favorite dishes is the BBQ chicken. Usually get their lunch special as you can't go wrong with lunch for under $10.

The last time I had come here was back at their former location for lunch, and I was very happy with my meal. But something must have changed once they moved into their new spot, because my meal this time was definitely lackluster. We started with the roti w/curry, which was super greasy. Peanut sauce beef was tasty and initially looked substantial but we quickly learned 2/3 of the dish was actually cabbage and there wasn't much beef at all. The yellow curry chicken tasted like it was just broiled chicken in a broth with dark yellow food coloring. There was no taste of curry at all! Which was strange since I would have thought it would be a similar sauce to the one given with the roti, but it wasn't even close. In the end, I felt this was a Thai restaurant for people who have never had Thai food before. It's just disappointing because that wasn't the take I had back when they were in their old location, so I wonder if the chefs or owners have changed in the process (or if I just came on a bad night).

Came here to eat lunch on a Saturday afternoon. My favorite Thai dish is Pad Thai. This place is gooood. The food smells so good, and they also give you a pretty good amount in portion size. My favorite dish is the Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken. Staff and service was nice. The restaurant itself is clean. I will for sure be coming back to this place. The only bad thing about this area is that you have to pay meter parking everywhere you go. So bring some change to park. Also the parking is only 2 hours long around the area as well. Make sure you bring quarters. Nice area to shop on a sunny day. I will be coming back for more Pad Thai!

Back to dine at Coconut Bay after 3 years at its new location on Howard Street, and I was pleasantly surprised at the new digs.Coconut Bay has officially brought trendy, upscale, and chic Thai food to Burlingame. We ordered: - chicken satay: Not your average satay. With five large satays, chunky peanut sauce, and a refreshing cucumber salad, this appetizer was filling and plentiful. - red curry w/chicken: The usual red curry with a spicy kick! Great flavor. - bean curd and eggplant: Also known as tofu eggplant with basil. One of the Thai dishes that I've come to adore. Melted in your mouth. - highway noodles w/chicken: Also known as pad see ew. Plentiful chicken and perfectly done. - jasmine rice: With all the flavors ordered, my philosophy is to keep it simple and aromatic with the rice dish. While coconut and garlic rice seemed tempting, we kept it simple. Overall, the portion sizes were large, which compensated for the higher than average prices. Definitely a great meal that I would return for.

I haven't posted a Yelp review in a long time but after my experience here this past week, I just had to come and post a review. I came here with my friends on a Thursday night after work. We first started at the bar during the Happy Hour special. The drinks are amazingly priced and the bartenders had perfect service. The bar area is nicely set up with three TVs and comfortable seating (Jon Taffer would approve). But then things went downhill. We decided to eat at the restaurant. The seating area is split into three areas: one large area in the back, which was closed, one hallway area that led to the bathrooms + kitchen, and a main area with about 10 tables or so. Initially it took us ten minutes to be seated. However, they sat us down in the hallway area, right next to the kitchen door. Because the kitchen was loud, we asked to be reseated in the main area. Because all ten tables were full, our server asked us if we could wait. No problem. We were being picky so the least we can do is wait another 10 minutes or so...right? We ended up waiting a total of 30 minutes. Four parties that walked in after we had asked to be reseated were seated before us. Eventually, out of the ten tables, four had opened up. It wasnt until I flagged both our and another server down AGAIN, did they notice the empty tables and said they would clean them for us. Nope. Took our server another 10 minutes as we just stood and stared at the empty tables waiting to be cleaned. Even after cleaning the tables, he still didnt sit us down at the table so we sat ourselves. At this point, it appeared we were the last party to sit as only 3/10 tables were emptied. After we sat, we ended up waiting another 5 minutes for our server to come drop menus for us. Because we had been waiting for about 40 minutes or so at this point, we each immediately knew what we wanted. We immediately flagged the server to take our orders and he said he would return after taking the other party's order. Fine. We can wait another 2-3 minutes since they sat before us (even though we should've sat before them). We ended up waiting for 12 minutes before we just got up and left. Look, I get we are a young party of recent college-grads, while everyone else was older. Makes sense to prioritize the older crowd because they usually have less patience. But having us wait more than 50 minutes despite only having about 40% of your restaurant filled and three servers for a total of 7 or so tables is just crazy. You're not a San Francisco restaurant. Get your act together. TL;DR - Happy Hour + Bar is great (one star). Service is horrible (0 stars). Didnt get to try the food because I got up and left after waiting for more than 50 minutes. This restaurant needs to hire new servers.

I very rarely go to the Burlingame area, but my friend was having her bday dinner at Coconut Bay so I ventured out yonder. The restaurant has a nice modern, classy ambiance. The main dining room opens up and towards the back is sectioned for large parties. Our party was seated in the back area. One of the side walls had a nice wine display with holiday decor. The lights were dim and romantic. Since we had a large party, we decided to order family style and share everything. We had a good variety of appetizers: satay skewers, spring rolls, flaming beef and spicy angel wings. Pretty standard stuff. We then proceeded to order 16+ entrees. Too many to name but a good variety of curries, seafood, fish, meat, duck, veggie dishes. My favorite was the scallops and prawns with eggplant. I thought the curry dishes were small. The entrees with meat had very little meat. The ratio of meat to veggies was like 1 to 3. The signature dish of thai macaroni was not macaroni but penne pasta which was completely overcooked and soggy. The pad thai was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. The flavors of all the dishes were good but nothing orgasmically mind-blowing my any means. One plus is that they have a wine/cocktail menu. I'd probably rate 3.5 stars but I'm rounding down because the waitress gave my friend attitude. She had brought her own cake and cleared it with the manager that there was no cake cutting fee when she made the reservation. The waitress gave my friend a hard time and said there was some misunderstanding and in fact there was a cake cutting fee. Then the waitress proceeded to act pissed off when bringing us plates for the cake. She also avoided our table for some time. In the end, everything worked out and we did not get charged for the cake fee but that little tiff was unnecessary. Not cool to mess with the bday gal. On a lighter note, the other wait staff was cool.

I've mostly had good experiences here (have only come here for lunch) - you get a good amount of food for a reasonable price. I really like the peanut sauce and chicken lunch special. The sides that come with it are also pretty good. However after coming here 2-3 times I've had different experiences service-wise. On one occasion the service was very prompt, even during a fairly busy lunch hour with a full restaurant. The most recent visit, however, saw really slow service during a very non-busy time. The food took forever to reach us. On top of that, it doesn't appear like they actually replace the tablecloth in between visits, as it was dirty when we sat down. Disappointing since the food is by and large pretty good.

Delicious Thai food in Burlingame. The service was very good and they also speak Thai. They have a full bar to the side, and I saw a lot of people grabbing drinks. They don't name their dishes in Thai here but pretty much have everything that you would want at a Thai restaurant. The green papaya salad was very good and so good that we ordered two!! It came with a lot of lettuce as well, which tasted so good after soaking up the fish sauce. I had the sweet basil chicken, which was sooo tasty. They also put mushrooms in it and didn't grind up the chicken too small. The pumpkin chicken was also very tasty. I definitely will eat here again if I am craving Thai.

Oops - meant to go to the Coconut Bay Restaurant down the street! Have been to this location a couple of times before and the food/service was excellent. However, when we pulled up to this same location - the windows said - Coconut Bay - Street Cafe. That should have been the clue! Well, we ate here anyway. I had the pad thai - (just meh) and my son had the garlic fried rice with tofu - NOOOOO. The foil wrapped paper plate was a good clue this was a 'street cafe' alright. The food quality was quite disappointing, the service was fine and the ambience fine. However, if you're looking for the Coconut Bay Restaurant on the corner of Howard - it's not here - it moved down the street on Howard, closer to California Dr.

We came to Coconut Bay on a Saturday night, but a lot earlier to beat the dinner rush. When we came in there were a couple of tables already, and the servers were chit chatting around the registers. It was unprofessional, but I guess ok since the place was pretty empty. But I hate it when people are chatting and are slow to give you menus or take your order, so it got to be annoying. Anyway, we ending up ordering- -Mint Leaf Surprise (Grilled Pork Seasoned w/ Mint Leaves, Lime Juice, Chili, Onions, Rice Powder $8.99): Eh, this was ok. I enjoyed the taste of the sauce, which was a good combination of sweet and tangy with a hint of spice, but the pork was really overcooked and dry. It comes with pieces of lettuce leaves on the side to eat it with, the but the leaves weren't quite large enough to use as a wrapper, so it was confusing. -Green Curry (Chicken in Green Curry w/ Coconut Milk, Peas, Eggplant, Zucchini, Jalapenos, Bell Pepper $10.99): Pretty good, but their curry is on the watery side. I prefer thicker curries that have more coconut milk in them. I think they sear the eggplant before putting them in the curry, so they tasted awesome! However, I didn't care for the zucchini in here, although the extra jalapenos was good. -Red Curry (Chicken in a spicy red curry with coconut milk, eggplant, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, jalapenos & sweet basil $10.99): Pretty good as well, and I loved that they had eggplant in this dish also! -Ginger Chicken (Sautéed Chicken w/ Fresh Ginger, Black Fungus, Onions, Tomatoes, Scallions, Bell Peppers $10.99): Eh, I didn't like this very much. It was very mild tasting, and the chicken was dry and overcooked. Skip! -Legendary Pad Thai (Prawns Stir Fried w/ Thin Rice Noodles and Bean Curd Served w/ Ground Peanuts, Bean Sprouts, Scallions $12.09): When the name of your dish begins with "legendary", it had better be pretty freakin' delicious! This dish though was just good. I like pad thai with thicker noodles and a drier sauce, and this dish had thin noodles with a wet sauce, so it wasn't my favorite. But still a good take on pad thai, and I enjoyed it. Overall, Coconut Bay has good Thai food, but it's nothing special, and the service is so-so. There aren't any dishes here I would come back for, but give them a try if you're in Burlingame and in the mood for curry and pad thai. Parking was easy to find at the time we came.

Okay, I don't know if it's just been too long since I've had Thai food (thanks South Beach Diet!), or if this place is really the best Thai I can remember having, but holy deliciousness. Four of us shared enough food for a small army - chicken satay, the little crispy chicken curry pouch things (golden cups?), pineapple rice with prawns, that spicy basil beef, drunkard noodles with pork (so fitting), and yellow curry with chicken. We DEVOURED it all. It was SO good. And Mere - holy crap, I was super thirsty when I got home too and figured it was just from salt, or from the fact that I haven't been eating like that lately, but MSG would make sense. I didn't even think about it! Oh well, bring it!

AWESOME!!! I'm not even talking about the food-- Check it out for the dance nights. Drinks are decent, usually $7 for mixed, including Liquid Cocaine, "Thaihiti", and Pisco Sour (but ask for "Nata Nam Special" and it will give you some extra tipsy time).

There are lots of Thai places in the Bay area. Most are pretty good, which is actually surprising to me. Coconut Bay is a little more expensive than most (just a little), but the food is also better. Given a choice, I'd rather pay a little more and have better food. I love all the curry dishes they serve, and the fresh veggie spring rolls are awesome. Service is friendly, and not under or over attentive. They handle special requests with a smile, which is really nice.

The service here is very good the food is also good. I work down the street so I order from here with the brown rice all the time. They give you a fair amount of food. One thing is that sometimes I feel like the food is hit or miss.

1 star to start. Food (0.5 stars): I ordered my usual Pad Kee Mao (Drunkard Noodles on their menu) with chicken here and I found it to be very flavorful, though I probably should have asked for more spice. The chicken was tender, with good flavor coming from the generous basil. I also tried some of the curries here and I found them to be fairly average. Service (0.5 stars): We had a hard time flagging our waiter down near the end of our meal, even though we were the only customers in the restaurant. That being said, they were fairly responsive and the food came out pretty fast (again, probably because there were no other customers present). Value (0.5 stars): Prices were about right for Thai at dinnertime, but I thought the portion sizes were a bit on the small side. I think I probably could have eaten another half portion but I do eat a lot! Experience (0.5 stars): It was slightly eerie being the only customers in the restaurant, but I did find the interior to be well-done and modern. There is a bar that has its own entrance separate from the main restaurant, but again, there was no one at the bar. I enjoyed my experience here and hopefully they get some more customers as the food is good here and the restaurant is pleasantly decorated. Overall: 1.0 - Baseline 0.5 - Food 0.5 - Service 0.5 - Value 0.5 - Experience ============= 3 stars

Not sure what to give this restaurant because sometimes when I come the food taste good and other times it just does not. I think they really need to be more consistent about everything. My family and I shared a couple of plates and overall they were just average. Nothing too great that I would miss and crave to come back for either. Parking here is street parking and is metered as well. Make sure you keep track of your time or else there will be a ticket 5 to 10 minutes later :(

Went here for a going away party!!! Food was GREAT...We had a large party so we ate EVERYTHING on the menu...ooops!! G double O...D! GOOD....Their servers changed our table arrangement around 3 times because we couldn't make up our minds as to how we wanted to sit. I would def go back. We shut the place down , stayed well passed closing...

This place has a romantic, upscale atmosphere. The service is warm and not too pushy. Coconut Bay is close to my home, so it's the to-go place for Thai. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food they give. After living in Davis for a few years (all they have is Thai food), I feel that Coconut Bay tastes "cleaner" and makes its food with fresher ingredients. I usually get the pineapple fried rice (very moist), but lately they haven't put much pineapples in the mix. I like their pad thai cause they make their noodles chewy (but definitely better at Osha Thai).

I think this place is just meh and overpriced. I ordered the roast duck rolls, which had one tiny piece of fatty duck skin and an even tinier sliver of meat attached. It was disappointing. Crab rangoon was okay, nothing special. The pumpkin curry dish, I think that's what it's called, was really watery. It was basically sauce with bits of chicken, bell peppers, and kabocha pumpkin inside a pumpkin bowl (think bread bowl but made with pumpkin). The fried banana had too much coating on the outside. The one thing I liked was the mango sticky rice, it had some good coconut flavor on the rice.

This is a review for their food that was provided for at a party. Roti with curry sauce, chicken satay, fried prawns, and the golden cups (ground chicken. potatoes in a fried rice paper triangle) well all fairly tasty. Though I've only tried mostly finger food, I'd definitely go to check out the restaurant and get my staple roast duck curry and see what their main fare is about

12 of us spend a birthday dinner here. We had a good time. They put us at the back of the restaurant, right next to their wine collection inside a locked pantry. The restaurant is roomy. This is more like a Thai fusion restaurant. The menu still carry varieties of food. We ordered twice for the same item so that we had enough to share. We ended up having a few boxes of food to go. I recommended their crab meat fried rice. I was able to taste crab meat every single bite. There are plenty of parking around the block. If you have been dining in this area, you know finding street parking is not that hard. The service is good. The waiters kept checking on us, and cleaning our dirty table. They did a good job to make us happy.

Every time I come here, I feel as though I have entered a portal to Thailand. It may sound crazy, I am aware. But this place has the decor, the friendly peeps and wonderful Thai food! Come here for happy hour and get a free appetizer with any drink! Try a GTT from the bar which consists of Gin and Thai Tea, perfect for a hot day or when you feel like some wicked tea! But make sure you stay for the Golden Pouches, which are incredible! My favorite main dishes here are the Drunkard Noodles and the Red Curry. Enjoy!

Came here with two friends for a late lunch, err, snack for me. I only ordered the Spicy Angel Wings because I wasn't very hungry. Just this small plate alone already made up my mind that I was gong to come back and eat an actual meal here. The sauce the wings were marinated and cooked in was sweet and semi spicy with a hint of garlic. It was garnished with fried garlic and basil leaves which I loved! The decor inside was very clean and modern with nice furnishings. Apparently this place is new or just opened not too long ago, but it seems pretty "fancy" for a Thai restaurant. It would be a nice venue for hosting a dinner party. The service was decent and prices were moderate for the portions we received. I'll be back next time to try more food from their menu!

One of my favorite thai restaurants. The new location is great! I love the decor and how much bigger it is. The food is absolutely delicious, I've never had a bad meal here. Their chicken pad thai is my favorite as well as the yellow chicken curry. Very flavorful. The customer service is good as well.

Tell me another bar that serves FREE appetizers during happy hour...No crappy warm dirty hand bar nuts here! You can pick three. Chicken satay, lady finger rolls and samosas are my fav. I love that I can come here and eat as lite or a heavy as I like without sacrificing any flavor. Favorite lite dishes include: flamming beef. Oh my! the hot sauce is to die for. It once inspired an entire dinner conversation amongst friends. The chicken satay wraps are wonderfully lite as well, an come w an assortment of accouterments. When I'm in the mood for a heavier bite I op for the Roti, samosas, lady fingers, coconut rice...o sooo good. Anything fried is quite delicious. The staff if terribly nice as well. All in all this is a great place for dinner and particularly happy hour!

This restaurant definitely presents itself to be very elegant with its decor and tablecloths, along with a bar. Even the regular menu seems higher than the normal Thai restaurant, especially if it's over $10 for an order of tom yum soup. At least for lunch they do have a $7.95 for a lunch special that includes salad, spring roll, and one item. I ordered the spicy BBQ chicken which was pretty enjoyable. I saw order tables order curry which looked good as well. I'm a fan of red curry so if I return that's what I'll go for. The two young lady servers were very nice and cute, which would be the motivation for returning. :)

I've been here 3 times. Once last year and twice in the last couple months. I think they must've hired a new cook sometime between my first visit and the second because although I didn't hate the food last year I didn't remember it having an impact on me. I still preferred to go to Thai Stick in Millbrae when I was craving Thai food. Well I have to say that these past 2 times I've come here I had absolutely no self control at the dinner table. I swear to god I shoveled that food into my mouth like it was going to be the last meal I will ever eat. I just couldn't get enough of it. I don't know what it is exactly but I think the cooks stepped it up in the spice department. The food is just so flavorful. I love the garlic beef. The Sweet Basil Bean Curd is so yummy and I really like the chicken yellow curry too. Oh lets not forget about the Roti. Mmmmm I can eat like 5 of those all by myself. The service is always good. For me the ambiance is a little off. For some reason I like my thai places a little more laid back. I feel like I need to be really proper in there when all I really want to do is lick all the sauce off my fingers and the plate. Yeah.. it must be the Burlingame vibe (Its the same type of atmosphere at Migalaba a couple blocks away). They should both make sister restaurants that have a fast food/take out quality to it. Not that I want the food quality to lessen, maybe I just want to feel like I'm in Thailand eating at a food market. Ah! Bucket List item!! **note to self: must go to Thailand and eat at food market.** Hmm.. ok so back to my point. Coconut Bay is now my favorite Thai place :)

Went there on a Saturday evening. Upon arriving we were asked if we had a reservation - we did not but I was puzzled by the question because there were plenty of empty tables. We were seated within a minute. The atmosphere is cozy as described but I would describe this place more as a family place than a romantic couples place - there were little kids running around when were there. The food was OK but not great. Both of the dishes we ordered (sweet basil chicken and sizzling seafood) had a lot of onions so if you don't like onions you may not like at least two of the dishes here.

I wish I lived closer! Thai iced tea is amazing and I usually never drink anything besides water and plain green tea. Love their fried rice and I NEVER eat rice unless its on sushi and even then I will eat as little as possible. Holy crap. Their rice is made with heaven. Had my 18th birthday here with 10 other guests. Called and told them I wanted a vegetarian/nonvegetarian dinner that would be served family style. They took care of everything and were super accommodating. Had a blast and everyone loved the food. It was the perfect amount. It was just about $300 and I think it was two appetizers, two main dishes, and fried rice. I'm not sure what else we had. My brother's company holds their holiday parties here sometimes and the place looks really nice at night and the food is always great.

I'd like to give a better review, especially since I've been coming her for years, but I just can't. I'm not sure to what event I can tie the decline in quality and quantity, but I'm pretty sure that it happened when they moved down the street to their current location. For what it's worth, no restaurant has made it more than a few years in this spot, it seems to be jinxed or something. My complaints about the food are that it is just ok, while the portions and especially the quantity of meat has declined as the prices have gone up. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken the last time I was here, and it came with half the meat I'm used to receiving with my order. The same thing happened with another dish I ordered: same dish, but with less chicken at a higher cost. The drinks have definitely gotten smaller and less potent as well and I think some of the happy hour regulars have gotten wise to it, since it's considerably less crowded at happy hour. I know they just completed a renovation in this current space and probably need to make a lot of money to pay for it, but giving longtime customers the short shift isn't the way to do it.

After a fairly intense hike and promises of "lunch soon", after 4 pm and a near stop elsewhere for food, we finally got to our lunch stop. With all that said and the fact that I'm picky about my pad thai, this place surprised me. We had a shrimp egg roll appetizer. Definitely a take on egg rolls I have never seen before. They were delivered in a wooden cup and were long and think sort of like spiral things filled with chocolate that you're supposed to dip in coffee. They tasted pretty good, but couldn't find the shrimp...so maybe they weren't actually the appetizer we ordered? The pad thai. There was a lot of it, try a really huge mountain of pad thai. First bite confirmed that I wasn't stuck with a mountain of bad pad thai. I'll admit, it was not the best I'd ever had before, but it was right up there at a notch and half or so below the best. Also, I think I got an entire chicken and block of tofu in mine. They definitely don't skimp on the protein that's for sure! They earn the 4th star for being open at an awkward time of day on a holiday.

Their lunch specials are a great deal, very reasonable. It took us awhile to get menu's then once we ordered three of the four entrees arrived. I think they clearly forgot the 4th. But it eventually arrived. The thai iced tea was amazing. The pad thai was ok. The yellow curry was good. The menu had a lot of items I would like to try.

Two words: Thai whiskey! Not many places have it, and they DO! The food is decent. I find it fairly white-washed...after all, it IS in Burlingame. They have a full bar. Haven't had the mixed drinks...but...... Did I mention Thai whiskey?

Redemption time: I like to think I'm a fair person so I'm compelled to update from my last review because we had excellent food this weekend. New look inside, freshly renovated. New menus too. Woo Hoo. Green curry chicken here is fantastic & for you non-kosher people, the garlic pork was pretty tasty too. Service is pleasant but that was never an issue. Thai folks are some of the nicest people, but you knew that. We were overall very pleased & giving them another chance definitely left a better taste in my mouth. Literally.

Had dinner here the other night with my husband, my father in law who was visiting from Indiana, and my Mom who lives nearby in Burlingame. I love Thai food and this place did not disappoint! We enjoyed several of the appetizers - the beef skewers, the purses (kind of like a samosa) and the roti. I think the roti was my favorite, I wanted to hog it all for myself. For entrees, we shared pork fried rice which I loved, and I am usually pretty bleh about fried rice...yellow curry with chicken which was very good and a seafood green curry of some kind. Oh and we had a side of brown rice. We all liked everything and thought the brown rice was so unique, almost like wild rice instead. Very tasty. The seafood dish was just okay. The only reason I won't give 5 stars was that Mom and I each had cocktails and they were served at nearly room temperature with melted ice and my club soda was totally flat...and I am not sure how much vodka was in either drink - very weak. Service was good, prices are on the high end for Thai but I think worth it. The place is very clean and the ambiance is nice.

I love this place for grabbing a bite to eat on my lunch break. It has such good specials. There are so many options for under $8 and they come in bento boxes with all of the fixings; soup, salad, rice and vegetable eggrolls. Most recently, I got the masaman chicken. I've never had this dish so watery before and I was not impressed. My boyfriend, however, ordered much better. He got the noodles with BBQ chicken. It was delicious with a nice kick of garlic. My sister and her boyfriend also came with us and both ordered the chicken satay lunch. They were both happy with it and I will probably get it next time I go because it looked fantastic. We also had the roti appetizer with yellow curry dipping sauce. The flavor was amazing, but the curry was too thin. I'd recommend trying the roti at Straits just a couple blocks away. Their roti is light and fluffy and the curry has more flavor and a better texture. This is a pretty good restaurant to get thai food, but there are better places not too far away. The redeeming factor are their specials. If you are going to make a visit here, make sure it's for lunch.

One of the best Thai places I have been to. I have eaten several times and never been disappointed. Pookie, the owner, is super friendly and helpful; she always suggests stuff that goes well together and she is always right! There is also a bar area in the next room. I like to stop by there with friends, just to have a drink before going out. They make a great Mai Tai!

The food is probably closer to 3.5, but their service pushes them up to 4 stars from me. I used to work in downtown Burlingame, and would eat here at least once a week. I like my Thai food extra spicy, and they knew that's exactly how I wanted it as soon as I walked in. I watched almost every World Cup game here this summer, sitting with the owners and discussing their food with them. If you're lucky, the owner will be in the back cooking, and her food is amazing. Their lunch special is an absolute steal. Ask for the minced pork with basil(Pad Gra Pow) or their Panang curry. I had a friend get their pumpkin curry and he couldn't stop saying how good it was.....and ask for their chili plate! Finish it off with a dessert Roti and you're good to go.

Great Thai food, nice modern interior decoraion, but the service was not that good. The waitress are not that attentive, and you need to wait for more than 15 min to get your food, so if you're in a hurry for a meal, don't come here. The food is really delicious, though; (I like their rice and noodle dishes). I'll be happier if the service was better.

The service was despite the place was just getting full. I will definitely come back

I am coming back from grocery shopping tonight and decide that I have overloaded the messenger bag and I should take a break. Coconut Bay has a small attached bar. It is right on the way so I stop. Tanqueray over with a couple of olives. $7.70 +- WTF. When I lived in the City it was routine for me to go up to the Starlight Room when I was in Union Square shopping at Christmas. I was willing to eat the cost because of the view and it would prepare me for spending too much money later. But $7.70 for a cocktail in a bar next to an apparently only good Thai restaurant in Burlingame (I have never eaten there and now will not). We are not talking about the stupid airport related hotels in Burlingame we are talking about an establishment that needs local patronage to survive. I could only mutter at the bartender on the way out, "tell the owner that the prices they charge at the bar cost them customers and the bartenders tips", I only left $1.30+-. I was so mad I did not check the exact cost, the $2.00+ in the shot/change glass told me all I needed to know.

I love this place, my favorite Thai restaurant. The food is always good, I wish I could say the same about the service. Most of the time the service is pretty good and consistent, but if you get certain servers they are slow and not as attentive as they could be.

We went to Coconut Bay on a very busy Saturday night with a party of 7. We had a reservation but it took over 30 minutes to seat us. The food was decent even though they got one of our orders wrong but the service was extremely slow. After ordering it took 40 minutes before our food arrived. When we were finished we couldn't find anyone on the floor to ask for a check.

This review is more for the bar since there are tons of reviews on the restaurant and food itself. *** HAPPY HOUR is 5-7 pm with half off well beers. *** If you go, there is this big jar on their bar that looks like it's been preserving some branches, leaves, and other goodies. If you watch "No Reservations" or "Bizarre Foods" on the Travel channel it looks really similar to the jars in Asia where they ferment alcoholic drinks with some snake, beetle, or some other type of reptile, amphibian, etc inside of it as well. I asked the bartender what it was but I couldn't really understand her English but just said I'll take two. So me and my boy Clarence drank it and now we call it "Katrina" because that shit FUCKS YOU UP just like the hurricane.

*Thai Hot Pot Stickers (1/5 stars) (Chicken and vegetable dumplings served with spring mustard, teriyaki and spicy chili sauce) *Jungle Tom Yum Soup (3/5) (Chicken or prawns in spicy and sour soup with mushrooms, tomatoes and lemon grass (add $ 1.50 for prawns) serves two) *Broccoli Beef (3/5) (Sautéed beef with garlic, broccoli, shitake mushrooms and sliced red bell peppers) My friend invited me to go here for Tom Yum Soup. We used to get it at Buathong Kitchen on Broadway and she told me that this place was more consistent and better tasting on the broth. After trying it I think it's less authentic, more generic and has a more Western appeal i.e. sugar added. It was not spicy at all. I think the soup at Buathong Kitchen is better, even if it's a hole in the wall restaurant that no one goes to. My friend did all the ordering, so I wouldn't have ordered pot stickers or broccoli beef. The potstickers were not appetizing to me b/c they were deep fried, previously frozen and covered in mayo and a too thick "teriyaki" sauce. lmao Brocolli was fresh and crunchy and I like shitake on anything. The beef was steamed and not very tasty at all. The recipe for this was not Thai. In fact this restaurant did not taste like Thai food. It was more reminiscent of Cheesecake factory's Asian section of the menu. Very bland flavors, no chopsticks lol, the quality of ingridients is good though. There we lots of white families there. The noise level was very high. (Friday night). Kind of pricey. I was kind of irritated by the waiters because every time I was in the middle of eating a dish they said "Are you finished" and wanted to take it away, like they were inexperienced or trying to rush me out. They did smile and were friendly. Overall, I will not be returning to this restaurant because it's not my cup of tea.

THIS IS AN UPDATE FOR THE NEW SPACE, CLOSER TO CALIFORNIA DRIVE. THE OLD BISTRO IS STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS AND STILL GETS MY 5 STARS. The new dining room is one of the loudest rooms in Burlingame. I think even the Crepevine with about 250 people in there is more quiet. We had to move tables because of the screaming kids, but the tables are so jammed in there and the place was so full at 7pm on a Friday, we could barely hear each other speak. Also, this new place is understaffed when busy, the bar is open making for more noise. I like the old location much better: the bar was separate, the place was more intimate and even when busy, not so loud. Bummer! Apparently, Coconut Bay is the joint for happy hour, EVERYDAY 4-6pm. Who knew? This place is jumping every weekday and is a much more pleasant place to be than some poser bar (see Straits) or scary pub (see Paddy Flynn's). The food is great, the drinks sometimes slow because of the sheer density of people, but they made the most of this nice lil bar that in previous years, was woefully underused. ~ Ms. Ali

The best Thai restaurant I've been to a long time. We ordered the Spicy Angel Wings, Drunkard Noodles, Pumpkin Chicken, Spear and Shield and brown rice. I couldn't stop saying how good it was. We will need to come to try other items on the menu. Didn't have room for dessert this time. The decor was nice and atmosphere was very inviting. The service was good. Happy hour is between 5-7, but only at the bar area. At the tables they are full price during those hours. Street and lot parking available. The restaurant is located right on the corner of Howard and Park across from Bank of the West.

Reservations were made for a party of five. When I checked in, the waitress kept correcting me saying it was a party of seven. Nooo, it's five- but I'll still take the table. Points for at least having the reservation, I guess. This party of five ordered the: Fiery Beef for appetizer, Drunkard Noodles, Garlic Beef, Roasted Chili Prawns & Calamari, Yellow Curry and alongside single servings of Coconut Rice, Brown Rice, and Roti for dinner. Every dish we ordered was good- no complaints! The staff took turns to make sure we had everything we needed, water glasses stayed filled and last minute add ins were brought out quickly. I didn't even have time to take any pics cause I was too into the food. We never pass up dessert, so we ordered 2 orders each of the Sticky Rice with Mango and Fried Bananas with coconut and mango ice cream. Service here went a little downhill. We waited about 15 minutes for them to tell us they were out of the Sticky Rice with Mango, then waited about another 15 minutes for the Fried Bananas. When you're with good company, the time just seems to fly. Even so we still noticed the desserts were taking long, so it might have even been more then 15 minutes. It finally came and they ended up just being OK. They failed to tell us each dessert only came with 2 pieces of fried bananas- and there was 5 of us. The mango ice cream tasted like orange sherbet- which didn't compliment it at all. Pretty good Thai food at average prices, and I may try for the Sticky Rice with Mango again. If all else fails, Tuttimelon and Powell's is just down the street!

The lunch menu is a bargain; $7.95 for a rice dish with several choices of curries and meats. I had the yellow curry with beef, my fiancée had the green curry with chicken. You also get a vegetable spring roll and salad with your lunch special. Both curries were very tasty but we agreed that the green curry was the most flavorful. My daughter had the Thai Crepe appetizer; we all tasted it and were pleasantly surprised --the flavors in the crepe just "pop" into your mouth; we were not expecting this simple crepe to be so yummy! To sum it up; very good food, great prices, and pleasant service. Definitely worth a visit.

Have been coming here for years...used to work nearby...suffice to say, Coconut Bay you're still on it!!! Today's fiesta was a group lunch to celebrate a colleagues birthday! Here's what we noshed on: -- Ladyfinger Rolls (fried rice paper rolls with ground chicken, shrimp, veggies) with a peanut dipping sauce - Roti with Curry Sauce (Grilled East Indian flat bread...toe curlingly good) -- Siam Satay Skewers (Chicken) (marinated/grilled chicken, more peanut sauce.) -- Golden Cups (Ground chicken, potatoes, onions and curry in fried rice paper) sooo nummy! As typical, they served complimentary soup...had various veggies in it, the broth was heavenly. Frankly, we could have/probably should have stopped there...but we went on: Coconut rice Yellow Chicken Curry Shrimp Pad Thai Mint Leaf Surprise (grilled beef with mint leaves, lime juice, chili) Lamb Curry Sea Bass Drunkard Noodles As you can see, we chowed down big time, just missing the kitchen sink! All that food and Thai iced tea for 8 people and tip/tax included, we were out the door for $185.00!!! This place also boasts a full bar! (It has it's own side door entrance but it is also accessible thru the dining room) It's small, but eclectic, cool and sexy....(like the owner, Pookie (~_~) The lil bar always has delicious and inventive drink specials! If you pop in on a Friday/Saturday without a reservation (this space isn't big and it really fills up) you can usually always squeeze in at the bar and have drinks and appetizers there! (Kinda cool in a sexy/first datey lean in close to talk/feed each other spring rolls kinda way) Burlingame, for me, has become a favorite destination for some really excellent dining and drink opportunities! And Coconut Bay, you're definitely in the mix!!!

I came here for a family lunch on a Sunday. Although we made reservations the place was still fairly empty when we arrived at noon. The interior is very classy and modern and makes the place seem more expensive then it is. I was surprised when we received our menus and the dishes were very reasonably priced, ~$10 each. They also had select lunch specials available for $7.95ish. Although I ended up ordering off the regular menu, some of my family did opt for the specials. They reminded me of bento boxes and were served in a tray. I decided to try the Sweet Basil Bean Curd because I'm a complete sucker for all things basil. It was really flavorful, although parts of it were make-your-mouth-water spicy and others were significantly less so. My sister ordered the Two Highways (it might have been Twin Highways, I can't remember!) which she said reminded her of pad see ew and looked just like it. The guys in our group all ordered the lunch special but I don't think it was particularly filling for them, so if you have a big appetite I would go with a regular dish.

I have always loved this place. I have to say that anytime you move a restaurant to a new location , you have to expect a few growing pains an patience is required. The food is great and what is not to like about attractive Thia waitresses and bartenders..

Solid thai food and very reasonable prices (especially at lunch). Have gone here several times and the food is always good. Have tried almost all their vegetarian options, and nothing bad so far.

We have been coming to Coconut Bay for many years. The food has always been good. Unfortunately since their move from the corner cafe to the bigger location the service has been horrible. They have hired many more inexperienced servers. Two visits ago, they kept us waiting for 45 mins and then didn't bring out the food that a guest of ours ordered, while the table next to ours never got their food at all. Our last visit they brought one of their dishes out of their dishes out with very little chicken. We mentioned it to them and asked if they could bring a little more. They said yes of course. We waited to eat the dish. It never came. The manager eventually asked us what the problem was. We informed him and he said he would take it off the bill. At the end of dinner, when the bill was presented, they had the item on the bill. We then again spoke to the manager and he didn't honor his word. Again, the food is good, but the service is horrible and not respectful. I will always go to a restaurant that has great service and OK food over a restaurant that has great food and horrible service.

Came here for dinner. We had the pad see ew which they called freeway noodles, which was odd because I have never heard of that before. The food tasted ok, not the best and not the worst. The price was ok but was a little bit high for what you can get at other places. Wait staff is on everything and will make sure that you are comfortable and your food is good.

The noodles we ordered had a burnt taste however the BBQ chicken was good. The people did not seem very happy working there so the overall experience was just average. The good side is that they offer a very healthy kids menu (which is rare for any restaurant). The new location seemed like a night club from the outside with odd green neon lighting under the outside sidewalk. Definitely not like the cozy, down to earth Thai restaurants you find in other areas.

It's ok for lunch. Their food is watered down. I asked the waitress she said most of the customers don't like it if it's too authentic.

I love to eat Thai but this place probably won't earn a return from me. Had the passion fruit cosmo which was pretty good. My fave dish that night were the golden cups appetizers, good one to start the night. They were deep fried wonton look a likes with chicken, potatoes, and onions. Always have to order pad Thai to compare and it was only okay. It seemed like there were more bean sprouts than pad Thai. Where were the noodles?! Green curry chicken didn't have much flavor and it was swimming in a LOT of juice...not sure if that is how it's suppose to be. It kind of diluted the flavors. Basil chicken is a dish worth trying. Fresh basil always makes things taste way better!

Two stars, one for each of the decent appetizers. The "golden lockets" and roti were both pretty good. And now, onto the list of the bad. None of the main dishes were especially tasty. All the dishes I tried had a strong ginger taste.. especially the golden duck? Can barely even remember what the dish was called.. The "drunkard noodles" also had a gingery taste, some people at the table thought they were ok. Aside from the appetizers my main complaint was the staff. We made reservations for 18 @ 7:30, and at 7:50 we were still waiting for them to figure out whether or not they could accommodate all of us... tried asking us to sit separately in two tables of 9 which I thought was pretty silly considering we had...reservations for 18. I also thought the staff was extremely slow with taking orders, bringing/taking away the food.. the meal just sort of dragged on due to waiting on the staff. I'd much trade in the "nice decor" and go to the hole in the wall (but delicious), white elephant in south city.

This place is great. We order take out or sometimes stay in for lunch or dinner. They never disappoint. From the appetizers we have had: the calamari, spring rolls, potstickers, golden pockets every time is delicious. Main dishes- eggplant chicken, drunkard noodles ( have tired tofu and chicken), garlic beef and few others I can't remember...each dish is wonderful. My daughter loves the kids menu options.

This review is for the lunch service. We were first seated at a table where the paper tablecloth had obviously not been replaced since the last customer(s). How do I know? There was a really long hair on it. When the waiter came with drinks, he actually saw the hair and simply moved it off the table with his hand. He didn't replace the paper! Also, about half way through my meal, I noticed that the side of the tablecloth had a large spot of caked on food. So, cleanliness: not so good. Service was really slow. Since it was lunchtime and the restaurant wasn't very packed, I expected it to be quick. However, everything took forever to get to our table. We finally had to ask for our check at the end because the meal was almost over an hour, which seems long for lunch. So, I might go back to give this place another shot. The food wasn't too bad, and you do get a lot for your money. Maybe we just got unlucky with the table.

Found a big bug (looks like a cockroach) in my jungle noodle soup at lunch today. I wanted to throw up but couldn't. I came home and got a stomach ache...hopefully it will go away soon. It was my first experience here and will never come back.

This was my first time here. I had a tofu/basil dish from the list of vegetarian options. The place is nice and has a bar area. I went for lunch and it was very kid friendly. There was a large baby shower going on at the time and the waitresses seemed to handle the large crowd and the rest of us very well. My dish wasn't the best thai food I've ever had, but it was good and combined with the friendly staff and location, I would definitely go back. The menu had a lot to choose from, not the biggest vegetarian list of items, bug more than enough to give me several options.

Thai One On My wife and I recently went to Coconut Bay for dinner, and also for lunch. The restaurant is well lit with a nice decor. The service is very prompt. There was another Thai restaurant in the same location a while back, but this is definitely under new management and different. They have a full bar with some excellent mixed drinks. I had the Thai Tea with Gin, very delicious. I know all the food at lunch and dinner was excellent, but due to the Thai Tea Gin drink its hard to recall all the details at the moment. Their appetizers, soups, and main courses are excellent, with a good number of vegetarian dishes available. They have a Special Lunch Combo that is very tasty and affordable. Parking in Burlingame is sometimes challenging, so get there before noon so you can find parking for lunch.

Have to downgrade this place...last time we visited, there were no polite charming Thai girls but a young man who manipulated the bill and substituted our request for 'well' drinks with the pricier spirits. I must say that the manager immediately took care of the problem and was very apologetic so I am only removing one star but since it was an unpleasant experience, I will not be returning there. Cannot speak for the restaurant area but the appetizers were good in the bar.

This restaurant JUST SERVED ME FOOD WITH SHARDS OF GLASS in it, and let me tell you, IT WAS SO EXCITING! I mean, I saw something on the internet where a restaurant in Spain called El Bulli was serving people glass made out of cheese and I thought to myself that it must be some kind of thing like that. Wow! Unfortunately, closer inspection revealed that this was just boring, plain-old glass glass. Not cheese glass. Oh-well. I was still kind of into it though, but my wife wasn't, so I instructed the waitress to take the dish back to the kitchen to replace it with a new one with (Gee I hoped!) potentially more and/or better food glass in it. While we waited I tried my best to soothe my wife's concerns. I even produced a reasonable explanation that due to the recession this restaurant probably can't afford the expensive food glass like in Europe, but maybe if we give them a second chance they might do better. Besides the other food here is very good! Certainly the cooks in the kitchen would be so ashamed and concerned that they would open new ingredients or possibly add some more exotic type of food glass. Of course, right?! If they don't have Parmesan glass then maybe they have Cheddar glass. There's just NO WAY that they would make the same mistake of putting ordinary, inedible, hazardous, lethal, throat-cutting, bloodsport fist wrapping, lethal weapon foot walking, deadly, intestine-perforating, totally unacceptable glass in there TWICE! Then, the owner stopped by our table to explain what happened. What she tried to say made no sense. Something about 'fish sauce...special bottle...hanging down'. It was nonsense what she was saying. And, the worst part was that I just couldn't tell if she was going to bring back more glass or not. It was almost as if she didn't want to serve us glass at all! The lack of clear signals left me feeling extremely frustrated! Still, I tried to calm my wife. "Don't worry", I said. "It's just a language problem and she is very busy". Finally the new dish arrived, and with great expectation - A-wahun bite. A-two-hoo bites. A three-hee... CRUNCH!

I tried this Thai restaurant for the first time last night, and while I haven't completely written them off, there were a few things I wasn't thrilled about. I tried the Roti with curry sauce as an appetizer and thought it was delicious, but would have liked to see a little more of both roti and sauce on the plate. For the entree, we tried both the Tangy Roasted Duck and Crab Fried Rice, which was on the Specials menu. I'm a huge fan of duck and this dish had the potential to be great with its combination of tomatoes, spinach, pineapple, and bell peppers if it weren't for the heavy-handed use of ginger by the chef. Just a hint of ginger would have been fine. The crab fried rice was the dish I was really looking forward to, but was disappointed to find both the rice and the crab overcooked. The meal wasn't a total loss. The hot tea was very flavorful and aromatic and really hit the spot on a chilly winter night in Burlingame. We also decided to try some dessert and ordered the fried bananas ala mode with caramel sauce and the fresh mangoes with sticky rice. Both of these dishes were delicious. By far, the service was the highlight of this dining experience. Our servers were both pleasant and attentive and never let our glasses go empty. I'll be back here again some day and when I am, I'll be sure to try some of the dishes recommended by others on Yelp.

My boyfriend and I went here for lunch about 6 weeks ago. We ordered to eat at the restaurant. When our food came, it was served in to-go containers. It was almost as if they forgot we were dining in, and then were too lazy to rearrange the food on plates aand bowls. My noodle salad was over salted. My boyfriend's vegetables were bland and didn't taste fresh. The worst part about our meal, was that he found a small rock in his food. It was jagged and hard, and he bit right into it. He showed it to the lady behind the register, who promptly took his dish and replaced it. They also threw in some more bland, old vegetables for free. The chef who was visible through the restaurant, gave us dirty looks throughout he remainder of our unappetizing meal. The rest of the afternoon I just felt like my meal didn't settle right. Talk about an awful experience!

Heaven, I'm in heaven!! I have a thing for rice.. I'm very particular about it.Coconut bay has the best coconut rice I have ever tasted! ;) Seriously, I could eat this rice all day all night, for snacks, breakfast and dinner--OK maybe I'm being ridiculous, but at least I'm selling you, right? This place is a must try! I had the egg plant, and my boyfriend had the peanut sauce chicken. Superb! No complaints. The portions were also enough to extend into left overs! ( Big perk for meal saving!) Total we spent was 30 bucks, that included 2 bowls of coconut rice and our entrees--we had water with lemon. ;) Please don't hesitate to try this place out! Your taste buds will dance all night! (Next time we plan to include some drinks from the bar, so, to be continued!!)

Yellow chicken curry is my favorite. A great value w/ nice lunch specials. They also have delicious dish called Dancing Prawns, big stuffed prawns. Nice staff. They just moved to a really Beautiful new restaurant close by to their original location, classy looking and still awesome food.

Matt had an infrequent evening off and planned a dinner with the four of us. As leader of the Fantastic-4, Mr. Fantastic ordered wife hurried and helped the kids with their homework. While she does that, Matt plays with their 64 color Crayola crayon set. As a one-dimensional family in terms of ethnic food, we decided to switch the variations up and decided on Thai. Wife and kids has very negligible tolerance on spicy food, so Matt decided to take it easy on the spiciness. Burlingame's Thai restaurant is not too far from the noisy and busy Cal Train station, and we managed to park our van within a few blocks in between the two busy locations. Walking to the restaurant on Howard Ave. is nice and very amusing. As expected, the restaurant was filled to capacity and we had to wait a bit for a table for the Fantastic-4. And as obedient and well-disciplined, we never whine, and accept the busy moment of the restaurant. Many of patrons dined there with the dates or loved-ones, like us. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, we were finally seated. We started with the Siam Satay as our opening appetizer. The $8.00 dish had 4 piece of grilled chicken on a charbroiled skewer and a nutty peanut-sauce for dipping. We also had Coconut Bay Soup. The $9.00 soups, which had broiled chicken and galanga in a savory coconut soup, serves two, but was good enough for the four of us. Now for the entrees; we ordered a Garlic beef dish, coconut bay trout and dish of the vegetarian combo. The $9.00 beef dish contains a sauted beef with garlic and Thai-spice seasoning. The $12.00 trout was fried blanketed with a spicy chili sauce and garnished with traditional basil florets. Also, we got to have our veggies and the $9.00 plate had a variety of seasonal veggies (broccoli, green-beans, onions and mushrooms). The two adults had a bowl of $2.00 Brown Rice and the kids each had the standard Jasmine rice for a $1.00 a bowl. The plates were a tad too spicy for the three, but acceptable. Oh yes, Wife had two $5.00 bottles of Singha Thai beer to extinguish the spiciness from her bud, and three of us had iced-water. And yes, for dessert we wanted the sticky rice and mango, but they were out of mangoes. So we settled with the Fried Banana and Vanilla Ice-cream. The $5.00 dessert had a mixture of freshly deep-fried bananas and cold Vanilla Ice cream, which makes the combo unique. Do you guys should take a guess on who ate most of the desserts? The food was good, but a tad too spicy for the three to handle. Matt is horrible at Math, and couldn't add up the total for our average meal. The wait as expected seemed like an eternity, but what do you expect for dinner? Matt's goal was the rice and mango, but must wait another time or get a rain-check from this place or elsewhere. More importantly, with Matt's awkward work schedule and rare day-off, the goal is just to enjoy the moments with his family.

The drunken noodles everyone is raving about were good, however I am a total noodle whore and to be honest there was way too much fish sauce on them. I took a bite and was like, "oh fish sauce." The green curry beef was delicious but too bad they gave us chicken by accident and took forever bringing us the right dish thereby ruining the whole concept of putting the green curry on top of the coconut rice (which is heavenly) because when it got there the rice was cold. No deductions from the bill or free dessert I might add. With the lemongrass chicken the flavor was delicious but it was a bit watery. We might go again and order some different items.

When you're craving some Thai food and want a LOT of food during the day... the lunch menu is SUCH a great deal! $7.95 (I think?) for soup, salad, curry and rice (or whatever you want, that's what I always get) and little mini egg rolls!!! I can eat the whole plate. I love the decor and the colors. I haven't been to the bar yet but I did order the margarita and it was tasty. Will definitely be back when I need to satisfy my desire for some yellow curry..!

I suppose it's time for me to write a review for a place i think I may actually hang out more than at home... This ones going to be hard because I literally adore everyone here, the food, the surroundings, ummm... Ok I'll admit the happy hour rocks as well! But I gush :) I do think that most people would have to agree though, what more can you ask for between the service and the undeniable yummyness of everything... You actually may be doing yourself a disservice by not stopping got their happy hour (7 days a week, 5-7, free appys, half off well drinks... I'm trying to be slightly informative people) and then enjoying a great dinner at the bar or in the restaurant. Not going to lie I'm in the bar typically... Ahhh but I digress just show up already ;)

As a vegetarian, I did not like this restaurant. While ordering my curries, I made sure that they were all vegetarian. I was told they were, yet all the curries had fish sauce in them. Otherwise, this restaurant seemed to be famous among the local crowd for its strong flavors of fish and coconut. I'm sure a seafood lover would appreciate this food.

The food was great, the servers were awesome, and parking was easy to find, even on a Sunday where there was a faire or a farmer's market right around the corner of this restaurant. One of my friends had her baby shower gathering at this restaurant. It's a small place but suited us just fine. Next door to it (actually connected to it) is a small bar if you happened to be in the area during the week nights or even a saturday night. Since it was a fairly large party, our food was prepared upon arrival since we were able to choose what we wanted from a special party menu. I had the yellow chicken curry. My bento box style lunch came with fried eggrolls with it's sweet and sour sauce, salad, rice and my entree-yellow chicken curry. It was delish. The eggrolls were crispy, the salad and the dressing was yum. It wasn't creamy or sour like at some places so I was pleasantly surprised. I wish my yellow curry could have had a little more potatoes in it but I was more than happy to devour all the meat that had come with my dish. They sure weren't skimpy about that. I was even able to order a Thai iced tea. I couldn't believe it. I was so happy since I hadn't had one in a long time. Even though we had a fairly large party that took up most of the restaurant, the servers were happy to great us and get us whatever we needed. No request went unanswered. Our water glasses were constantly filled and even the little children that accompanied us were entertained, which I thought deserved 3 stars in its own right. I would definitely come back if I was in the area. If you are in the area, try their pad thai or the basil beef/chicken. My other friends ordered those entrees and they were huge. They looked so good to the point that I wanted to ask if I could order all three. Oh well, at least it leaves something to be desired when I am back in town. Until next time Coconut Bay.

Friends of mine are getting married next year and reserved the entire Coconut Bay Restaurant to host their engagement party this past weekend. They set up 3 long rows of seating and even though it was a bit chaotic and tight, the servers managed to get everything out without any problems and always came back to refill everyone's glass. THe pad thai was probably one of the best that i've ever had and the coconut curry was absolutely mind blowing- i loved it! Great service and excellent food = Highly Recommended!

By far, this is my favorite Thai place ever! I had the safe dishes. It was clean, but I loved everything from the salad, which had a light tangy sauce to the yummy eggroll to the entree. I had the Rice with Basil on the Lunch Menu. I would definitely re-order the same thing. I've never liked every single item extremely. Maybe I was having a good day or something. Everything was awesome! The Ma-Sa-Man curry was good too! Nothing exceptional, but I loved my Rice with Basil :) I came during a random hour near lunch so the service was attentive and great. The big windows and usually sunny area makes this restaurant feel clean and refreshing especially with a name like Coconut Bay! :)

3.5 stars - friendly service, convenient location (parking, plenty of seating), solid food and yes they serve sticky rice w/ fresh mango. Coconut Bay is a simple low key restaurant that is family friendly. (There were 2 with kids when I was there.) It is located a block or so away from the main shopping area, which makes it harder to find, but offers more privacy. The food, while not impressive, was nicely presented. We started with the Roti w/ Curry Sauce - fresh & crispy roti served with curry that came in a hallowed gourd. Thought that was a nice island touch. The Ladyfinger Rolls, which may be described has long leaner and lighter egg rolls, were served in a cylindrical bamboo holder typically reserved for breadsticks. I like this version a lot. For our mains, we were drawn to the Legendary Pad Thai. With a name like that, you expect great things. Upon tasting it, I was still questioning what makes it "legendary"? Truly it was a large portion of noodles. I give them credit for an eye-catching name though. We also tried the Eggplant Chicken. This was prepared with lighter flavors than other Thai restaurants but I found it equally good. Perhaps it was the extra basil they threw in at my companion's request. Despite being stuffed, we couldn't resist the Sticky Rice w/ Mango. Yum! They sliced the mango into little sectionals with a scoop of sticky rice drizzled in sweet stuff. This dessert helped give Coconut Bay that extra half star more. I probably won't be going back any time soon, but the menu still has a few interesting items that piques my interest. I'll have to try the Drunkard Noodles next time. They have some great names for their noodle dishes.

After reading the reviews, my gang and I tried the golden bags, ladyfinger and roti with curry apps. All were fine but not great. We specifically missed the roti with curry from scratch at Banana Leaf... but not every restaurant can pull that off! The pumpkin red curry and pineapple fried rice with cashews were both good. The fresh seafood/silver noodle special was salty/fish-saucey, and the filet mignon salad with wine sauce special was tough and over-dressed -- think chewy beef on hot lettuce drowning in brown sauce. What was excellent was the decor, corner location with windows, abundant street parking (metered), service and presentation. All of the dishes were presented just beautifully! That being said, if in the South Bay with similar cravings, I'd consider Banana Leaf instead. If further north, I'd try to get myself to Burma Superstar, unless there's going to be a wait.

The spicy angel wings were not as expected but were still pretty good. Not like normal angel wings which are usually drumsticks stuffed with a ground chicken mixture... but it was just wings tossed in their special sauce. It was different but still good. Ordered the beef boat dish(forgot the name), which was a beef stew over rice noodles and it was very flavorful. The beef was tender. Nice that they have a full bar with happy hour specials. Cocktail menu was average. They had the necessities like long islands, mai tais, mojitos, margaritas, and more. My long island was nice and strong.

Great service, good food. I was craving tom yum soup and it really hit the spot! We already ordered some other great dishes - Chx Satay and Masaman Beef Curry. Also, had the Pad Seew but it was just ok. The only problem is that when we got home we were super thirsty...have a feeling they use MSG. :(

I love this place. I do. The food is very good, the service is excellent, and above all, the prices are VERY reasonable. Thai food looks easy to make, but I've tried it at home on several occasions, and while it looks like Thai food, even smells like Thai food, were I to open a restaurant, I'd have three regular customers, all three of whom share my last name. There's an x-factor that turns mediocre Thai food into excellent Thai food. The dishes I really like are the Garlic Beef which is made, simply, with garlic and beef. But it's served very hot and goes down so easily. I also like the Curry Powder Prawns and Scallops. The flavor is excellent. I had a special the other day, crab fried rice. This is an excellent dish though it is flavorful so if you have two particularly rich or tasty entrees, you're probably better off with white rice. And the appetizer of choice - Garden Fresh Rolls. This is one of those places you go when you're hungry, you know you want Asian food, and you want a hassle free and friendly dinner. It's on Howard Street and not Burlingame Avenue which means parking is easier. And it's got a nice, airy feel which means you can move out an extra inch or two, giving yourself room to expand, while not banging into the people behind you. A note on the prices - Yelp has a categories, "$ - under $10.00, and $$ - $10 - $19.99." While technically, most dishes are $$, if Yelp had a category for $10.00 - $11.00 - most dishes would fall in that range. Put succinctly, it's a lot closer to $10 per dish than $20. I cannot say this enough - it's a great place to go. I can't wait to go back. What time is it now...how long would it take me to drive from Mariposa Street to Howard Avenue and back....maybe....I can just....

I love this place especially for their 5-7 pm happy hour. They serve complimentary appetizers and we had the lady finger rolls and chicken satay for starters. They have my favorite vodka here...Chopin! If we wanted to order more food, we could but they always seem to bring out a lil' complimentary dishes here and there. We must've had our third round of drinks and the bartender brought out a small plate of these spicy thai roasted peanuts mix with red onions and sliced chilis. OMG, these little gems were so addicting. Every morsel was just as spicy as the next one. It totally hit the spot especially when you're wrapping conversation up to end the night and say our goodbyes. Their drink specials are written on the bar's mirror and there's actually a drink they make called "Pookie Monster." I chuckled. Yup, it piqued my curiousity..might have to try it next time! I'm definitely coming back for more.

Sigh. This is a good restaurant and I want to give it 4 stars. But Coconut Bay, let me ask you this one question. Why, oh why, do you still use styrofoam carry-out containers? Is this the 1980s? I'll probably go back for dining in, but you won't find me calling in an order anymore.

I have to report that this place has some very yummy food! Guy friend and me ordered takeout, the chicken basil is spicy with jalapenos, but the white rice took the burn right away. Yum! the Beef with peanut suace, the one bite that I got that night, was like food heaven. Next night I had to go back and get some of my own beef with peanut sauce... So I brought my best friend for sit down dinner. Service was great, my water glass was never half empty. and timing of plates was great, since we started with the vegetarian tom young (variety of veggies- green beans, zucchini, carrot, baby corn, mushrooms, tomatoes, broccoli- super delicious- not too spicy but full of flavor, and there lemon grass and kaffir leaves where broken down enough to actually be edible, unlike some places that they are huge and too much. Best Friend got a noodle dish, the highway noodles or something- not MY favorite seasoning, but she really enjoyed it. Best part was that we both had leftovers for the next lunch. All in all a great experience and I will be going back again for the soup, the beef with noodle sauce and tho I didn''t try the spring rolls they looked tasty.

The lunch special here is a good deal, you get a Bento box that includes, egg rolls, salad and rice plus whatever entree you order for $7.99 which is a pretty good deal. I ordered the Spicy Garlic Chicken which was pretty good and my boyfriend got his usual Red Chicken Curry. We both enjoyed our meal and it was the perfect amount. The service here was really, really good. I'm not sure if we came on a good day but he definitely earned a good tip from us. The bar in the back looked pretty nice as well. We'll more than likely return here.

Decent Thai food. Loud atmosphere. Savory sea bass was excellent. MSG? perhaps. Dancing prawns was dry and overcooked. Attentive waitstaff. Ran out of coconut sorbet

Came here NYE, and everything was very tasty. The golden pouches were very good if you like potato. The curry was spicy and well seasoned. The rest of the dishes were very good. Will definitely come again if I want Thai food.

The last time I saw so many kids running around late on a Friday night was a Chucky Cheese. The price is very expensive, even the new kids menu they have now. This is not the place for friends or a date. Its cramped already and parents dont control thier children from playing tag and hiding under your table. The service is slow.

Poor service, overpriced, bland food. We waited for half an hour before the waiter took our order. When the food finally came, another half hour after ordering, the fried dishes were overfried and everything was oversalted. We also only got our water refilled once. Nice decor, but will not be back.

I know for some it may be hard to believe that there are really good Thai restaurants outside of San Francisco. Well sort of off the beaten path is Coconut Bay (1 block from Burlingame Ave.), it is bar\restaurant, serving up authentic Thai dishes that are reasonably priced and not toned down too much for the Western palate. The service is always friendly and accommodating, helping those unknowledgeble first time Thai diners navigate through the menu. Having been here about 5 times in the last couple of weeks due to training close by, I've gotten a chance to sample most of their fairly large menu. Be sure to check out their: Fried Calamari Roti with Curry sauce Duck Noodle Soup Coconut Cove Noodles Garlic Chicken Although there are some average dishes here and there, the service and the majority of the dishes makes up for the minor flaws. For the cash conservatives: The lunch includes a inexpensive special menu packed with dishes served like a bento box. You choose one of the dishes from the list and it comes with a salad and vegetarian egg rolls. Also they have a happy hour on drinks and select items for those in the area looking for an after work place.

Huge fan. I noticed the poor reviews saying that the atmosphere and prices were poor, but I'm not about to let that ruin their amazing Thai food. I usually go for lunch because it significantly less busy, but went for dinner there this Friday night. Granted, there were noisy kids, but I was craving their Tom Kha soup so badly I did not care at all. It's the creamiest, most flavorful Tom Kha soup I've had, with chicken or seafood--either way the proteins are cooked perfectly here. So many spices and coconut flavor. Usually I get their spring rolls, which come paired with a not-to-heavy spicy peanut sauce, but this time I got the chili garlic chicken wings, which I'm most definitely getting again. You can't go wrong with their Pad Thai. I've had sooo many gross, oily Pad Thai dishes before, and this is far from that. Their Drunken noodles are also a favorite of mine if you're feeling like flatter noodles in a spicy bean sauce. The coconut water is the best treat--they serve it with the coconut meat chunks in the glass. I down it in 10 seconds literally. Definitely recommend going here, I try to once a week because I crave their soup so often. I guarantee lunch will be an overall better experience.

I ordered Tom Yum which was really good, and my husband ordered yellow curry that was just average. They didn't ask us how spicy we wanted it and our food ended up on the bland side. I think it's toned down Thai food for Americans. They have a pretty good drink list and a nice bar attached. The restaurant is attractive, and if there was slow service I didn't notice it (good company?). I'd definitely give it another try, and next time ask them to make it spicy (but that always makes me nervous at Thai restaurants).

Nice decor, separate bar area which looked inviting. The drinks menu seemed cool and trendy. We had lunch on a Saturday, ordered the Tangy Duck and Yellow Chicken curry., Rice is extra. The portions were good sized and the service was good and prompt. The chef was way too generous with the onions in both dishes, so much so that it overtook the whole entrée. The Curry's potatoes could have been more tender but overall the curry was good. The duck dish was very fatty but tasty. A good choice in small Burlingame for Thai food but I wouldn't say it is the Best Thai curry I've had. The entire bill was $ 31.00 for lunch. We'd definitely go back for the Bar area and have drinks and appetizers has opposed to dinner.

I actually thought it was an Indian restaurant but then I saw the bar and menu, it has a feel of a restaurant/pub with some Thai dishes like Pineapple rice (which I didn't get to try, this is always a dish which I will order all the time) and various curry dishes. Since I was only there for a short time (have to head to the Elite event), I just ordered their calamari which was served with something that looks like pesto sauce with a semi-sweet taste. The servers were very nice and hospitable since we ended up with more than people than expected. I do find the restaurant appealing and quite better than any Thai restaurant I have ever been and will try to check it out again when I visit Burlingame.

I came here for dinner with some Yelpers before the Elite event. Caroline and I thought before the event we should eat. We were late and traffic was killer. The place is very small but very cute. It is nicely decor and they dim the lights to give it more of a romantic feeling for dinner. The food was good here. I end up ordering the Sweet Basil Prawns. I wish they gave me more shrimp but the sauce was good. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The appetizers was great at the Elite event. I wish I ordered the appetizers there. There is always next time.

Update - went to Coconut bay again last night, had a thai-jito, like a Mojito but with lemongrass and some kind of thai liquor. Interesting but waaaay too sweet. Flaming beef starter, shrimp and calamri with roasted chilli main - great food, certainly hit the spot.

Everything was DELICIOUS. The seafodd yom yum soup was phenomenal, as were the spring rolls and the beef satay - and all the main dishes we ordered. We eat a lot of Thai and this may be the best Thai we've had. Love it!

This place is okay for a Thai restaurant. The food is satisfactory and the staffs are pretty friendly. They offer a lunch box special that is pretty reasonable but the selections again, satisfactory. To be quite honest, my favorite dish I had there (and we ordered a lot) was the Paratha. It's like a very thin pancake deep-fried and it comes with a delicious curry dip sauce. I would return just for that. There are other Thai restaurants that taste more authentic then again, this place is in Burlingame. They have to cater the palates of "westerners." Go to the city and there you will find an abundance of authentic Thai dishes. If you're not incline too, then this place is not too bad.

  • Lu W.

I think the place is a bit over priced. I got some standard-issue yellow curry with tofu instead of chicken, and it tastes... just like yellow curry in any other Thai restaurants. I would prefer the fried tofu, but they offered regular tofu instead, which falls apart in the world of pineapples, snowpeas, string beans and so on. I suspect the hot curry itself would have disintegrated the tofu. As a result, the otherwise tasteless tofu gets completely overwhelmed among all the other things - in its semi-liquid form I must add. The bar is in a separate room but it was very crowded when we got there. Again, nothing special except it offers a unique meal-after-beers experience. The tab comes out to be around $20, definitely on the high end for Thai food.

I recently went here for dinner on a Saturday night with two other people and we ordered several standard dishes, such as vegetarian pad thai, drunken noodles with pork, green papaya salad and broccoli beef. When we ordered, we specified that we didn't want anything spicy, and that all dishes we ordered should be mild. But when the green papaya salad came out, it was so spicy that we could barely eat a mouthful or two before gulping down an entire glass of water. Our mouths were still burning when our waitress finally showed up. We had her take the dish back to the kitchen and asked her to have the chef make it with NO SPICE, which was what we had specified when we ordered. She brought the salad back and it wasn't spicy the second time around. The next round of dishes brought another spicy surprise, because even though we specified MILD for the veggie pad thai dish, that was spicy too. In fact, it was so spicy we had to send that dish back to the kitchen as well! Looking at the dish, we could see where chili paste was literally sticking to the sides of the bowl, more unevenly distributed than anything. The odd thing is that in 99% of the Thai restaurants I've ever been to, Pad Thai's default taste is not spicy. The Drunken Noodles we also ordered mild, and they were edible and not spicy, when they were the noodle dish that should have been spicy! It made no sense. When we finally got the pad thai dish a second time, it was not spicy, but it also lacked flavor. There were no green onions in the dish and the sauce was lackluster. And yet this was a dish that was touted as "special" on their menu. We weren't sure whether there was some kind of communication problem between ourselves and the waitress, or between our waitress or the cook, but I can't remember the last time I've sent two dishes out of four dishes ordered BACK to the kitchen at any restaurant. I guess if you don't mind spicy food, eat here, but otherwise, be careful.

bad experience with a good restaurant today ! #5, table 15, I took 4 employees their today again for last time were not bad at all. service were slow; we have to ask 3 times for peanut sauces. that is not bad, but it is all 5 dished were too salty; I can not drink salty noodle soup w " thin slices of lemon grass all over in the soup w noodle" the worse part is 2 patine noodle w sour tofu in it, tofu has bad smell n falling apart, we did not ask return food back for they are too busy, however it is not acceptable. I hope the owner aware what's going on there today/

Sorry Coconut Bay...there are plenty of restaurants that could be my first bad review, but you were my most recent unsatisfactory restaurant visit. 2 Lovers - (Chicken & Prawns) was overcooked and very dry. The hot sauce that comes with was tasty though. Drunken Noodles - more cabbage than noodles and while it tasted OK, there was nothing too special about it. Garlic Chicken - Boo. Just chicken stir-fried with garlic and basil. Didn't even taste seasoned. Or, at least, properly seasoned. Green Curry w/ Chicken - was the saving grace. This dish was tasty, although the paltry amount of chicken that came in the bowl was gone after a few spoonfuls over rice. I'm used to being served portions that leave me satisfied at Thai restaurants, but I think they were going more for polite-sized servings here...the kind where you dab your face with your napkin rather than give it a good wipe. The lighting and table settings make this place a notch fancier than most of the Thai joints i've been to, but i'll trade bigger plates and better taste for a white table cloth and servers who speak fluent English. They WERE attentive about our water glasses though. Good job there.

Honestly errmm, the food is mediocre at its best. The peninsula pretty much suffers the general lack of decent Thai food. I'm afraid that this one counts. Look, I don't mind having some 'fancy-schmancy' Thai dishes as long as they still have the tone of momma's cooking. Generally speaking, Thai food is best eaten casually and the food IS sissified to cater the fussy palates of predominantly non-Thai folks in the vicinity. The quality still didn't impress me at least. Something's missing, they still tasted two-dimensional. But hey the decor's lovely though and they've got a bar in the back, still lovely.

Since living in Burlingame I must have driven by this place a thousand times and never tried it. I don't know what it was, there was just something about it that didn't appeal to me. Maybe because I have actually been to Thailand and the food was not my favorite part of the trip. It seemed like I always ordered the wrong thing, or the way it was prepared was disappointing. Lots of beautiful huge shrimp but with shell, guts, and eyes still intact. There is nothing striking about the decor but it is roomy and clean with lots of windows. It manages to be both a little austere and welcoming. But on a warm night my partner decided to go for it and we have been going about once a week ever since. The food is great and the value is even better. Pretty much everything we've ordered has been great. It tastes fresh and there are so many things to order. I don't know if it's going to win any awards for authenticity, but the food is good, cheap, and the service is great. Try the pumpkin curry, it is served in a whole pumpkin and it's fabulous, also the green papaya pok-pok salad, it's so spicy it hurts and worth every bite. Check it out, it's almost cheaper than cooking. You'll love it!

What a cool place! I just happened to discover Coconut Bay a couple of weeks ago and I'm hooked. Their fried rice is TO DIE for seriously!...I haven't had such good fried rice in a long long time. You've gotta try it out. The food and the ambiance make Coconut Bay a great place to discover.

A bunch of Yelpers came here for dinner before an Elite event. The restaurant is very clean, they like to keep lighting dim at night. Overall, the food was alright. I ordered a Roast Duck dish, which was just ok for me. Not much flavor and I've had better at other Thai restaurants. Can't really say much about other dishes, but some of the appetizers they served at the Elite event was pretty good, particularly the Pot Stickers and Golden Cups (the pouch-like paper wrap).

We have eaten at Cocunut Bay on Howard avenue several times now... and it is delicious! I've gone with girlfriends, my family and grandparents... and everyone has enjoyed their meals. Lots of vegetarian choices, noodle/rice dishes and a variety of meat and fish... the sauces are flavorful and yummy. Some of our favorite dishes are the curry vegetable and eggplant and tofu (and we don't usually like tofu!). The chicken lettuce wraps and silver soup are tasty, as well. The restaurant is very comfortable, nice decor and the staff is friendly... although, sometimes the service is a bit spotty. If you like Thai food you will enjoy this restaurant.

I have been visited Coconut Bay Restaurant to enjoy Thai food for six years now. The thing that I like most is the service. They never put you to wait more than 5 minutes. The food is delicious and nicely arranged. My favorite is lady's fingers, yellow curry, pumpkin curry and pineapple fried rice.

i know good thai food. ive lived in bangkok, i have thai friends and relatives. While the food here is not super authentic its very tasty. Western thai cooking tends to be sweeter to cater to the western palette. Everything here is sweet but very flavorful and tasty.

Coconut Bay is not a traditional Thai restaurant and has more progressive dishes. Very tasty for the most part. Service is sometimes slow though. A little pricier than most other Thai places, but they also have more exotic ingredients than most.

Great for a quick, inexpensive Thai lunch in Burlingame. Good lunch specials, good atmosphere and easier to find parking at this location rather than search Burlingame Avenue for parking; this restaurant is two blocks away from the crowded avenue yet a quick walk to the street if you feel like shopping.

3.5 Pretty good, though I am definitely a fan of Narin which is doors down. We came here since Narin was closed on Sundays so as sad I was, at least I got to experience something new. The ambiance is quite dark. But the orange walls and fancy decor didn't make this anymore upscale than it needs to be. The menu has a good selection, though a bit overpriced than other Thai places. We ordered the Eggplant Beef EXTRA spicy... as spicy as they can get, we requested because my sister's man loves him some spice. We also got the sweet basil tofu, Pineapple fried rice and green papaya salad. Pina Fried rice was one of my favorites. I hate, hate, hate when the dish is served with raisins and this was omitted. There was enough to go around and very filling with lots of meat, pineapple, cashew goodness. The Sweet Basil Tofu we requested to be regular spicy, but ended up being spicier than the Eggplant Beef dish! Tasty nonetheless with Lots of tofu and green veggies. Beef was good as was the eggplant. I don't think I'm a fan of green papaya which is why i didn't really enjoy the salad. Service was great. The ladies were attentive, surprised that their spicy beef didn't make the white man (sis' bf) turn red... and they were very prompt with every thing, refilling the water and even giving us sides of spicy stuff... I'll be back if I crave Thai on a Sunday night... otherwise, any other day of the week, you'll find me 3 doors down.

After 91 reviews, I'll keep mine short and sweet: Me - I'll also get a Singha beer please *smile* Waiter - um...can I see your ID please, sorry Asian people usually look fairly young. That oughta earned one extra star for Coconut Bay, well done.. Went there for lunch, we ordered: Tom Yum soup - chicken was really really dry Flying Duck Salad - duck was alright, the dressy tasted like light honey muster sauce at Subway. The bed of salad was crispy and fresh. Fat Noodles version of Pad Tai (don't remember the name) - it was just a-okay. My beer - was good Hence 3 stars + 1 for mistaken me for someone under the drinking age.

The place is nice and clean, although a little small. The food is pretty good, and a little bit more pricey. I don't go there much anymore since I stopped working in Burlingame, but it is one of the nicer cleaner Thai restaurants. The food is a little more delicately prepared too, I remember the food being pretty good. Would definitely go again if I was in the mood for Thai and wanted to visit the area.

I love this place! Really good thai food, fun happy hour with chicken satay (BONUS!), great service...going for eight years strong, you have to try this place out. I hear the lunch specials are good too, haven't had time to try yet but I will and will keep you posted. Their pumpkin curry is my favorite treat and their thai iced tea is spot on.

So my friend & I just enjoyed dinner here tonight. I would definately go back! As a matter of fact I'd like to try their lunch. The traditional pad tai was good, the green curry excellent, had a lil kick to it. The peanut dish & coconut soup were also great but I'd have preferred to cut the sweetness factor with some rice perhaps. We didn't order cause we figured we probably ordered enough food. Sure did, as we both took food home. The golden pouches had good flavor & great crunch!

I've been coming to coconut bay for the past two years. For the most part I've enjoyed their good prices and tasty food. I've been a fan of their Fresh Spring Rolls for quite some time. The minty blend of vegetables and spicy peanut sauce has been the highlight of my meals. As of late I've noticed that their prices have been creeping upwards and the quality and taste of their food has been going down. My most recent experience at Coconut Bay is going to keep me away for quite some time. We started with the Coconut Milk Soup. Usually this is served in metal pots warmed small bits of charcoal underneath to keep the soup warm while its at your table. You can usually get 4 portions out a single order. We were a party of 6 and ordered two orders of the soup. Instead of the usual metal pots we each got individual bowls of soup which weren't even filled to the top. The soup was thin on veggies and heavy on broth. I asked why the soup wasn't served as usual in the self warming pots and the waitress said "there is no room on the table"... the table was empty. We continued with the meal and the rest of the food was mediocre. Not the typical flavorful food I have grown to expect. Unfortunately the Coconut Bay experience continued on to the next morning with a surprising bout of pedoodles. A quick SMS to the others in the party reveled that the food had come back to haunt all of us on its way out. After two year of enjoying Coconut Bay I am going to give it a rest, there are plenty of other places in Burlingame that won't destroy my stomach and will give me a better value for my money.

i first tried coconut rice here and was addicted! i think coconut bay ranks among the other really wonderful thai places. to complement the coconut rice, we usually order the yellow curry and sweet basil prawns, with a side of pad thai. for dessert, we get the crispy roti! when we can't make a drive to thai time, coconut bay is always a great substitute.

Some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time. The beef/mint appetizer was incredible, followed by the green curry chicken, pad Thai and peanut chicken. The rice was perfectly cooked, and even the Thai iced tea (unsweetened) was very good. I highly recommend.

Oh Coconut Bay, how I love thee... I often work at the office late and just don't feel like cooking when I get home. And invariably, my go-to restaurant for a meal is Coconut Bay. They are super quick getting the take-out ready (I call and place and order 5-10 min when I get there, its ready!). (side note - they have pretty cheap lunch specials too). I always get the chicken green curry, which has that proper green curry taste and consistency. I kinda judge a Thai place on its green curry - that's my standard. Anyways, they do not disappoint. And there is this cute little old grandma cooking in the back. I feel like my take-out was made with love :)

Prefer dinner menu to lunch menu, would give dinner four stars, greater variety and not as constrained to rice and noodle dishes. Sweet Basil Beef, Cashew Nut Chicken particularly great. Dined there again for lunch recently, and service was very slow. Re-confirms feeling that it works better for dinner than lunch in my view.

This place has some pretty good Thai food!!!!!! Yum! While I can only speak for the veggie items on the menu, I'm impressed. The flavors are totally there and the fact that they have garlic rice, OMG! This girl goes wild for anything garlic! YUM!! The atmosphere here is also really nice. Recently went here for my birthday dinner and I wasn't let down. We kept adding on more tables cause more friends continued to arrive and the staff was completely helpful. The only time I've been slightly disappointed was with service one afternoon for lunch, I think we were there for somewhere close to an 1.5 hrs. Oh and they get extra points with me since they have a full bar!!

I really wanted to like this place after reading so many great reviews. Yes, the coconut rice is yummy. However, it's a little too mushy. The exotic lamb curry was a little too salty and it didn't have much except for lamb and potatoes. The basil bean curd didn't have much flavor and the tofu tasted spoiled. I have a good sense for spotting spoiled tofu, by taste and smell. I complained and they let me order another dish in place of it. They said they put vinegar and that's why the tofu was sour. We ordered the curry vegetables. They said that dish has tofu as well. When I asked if they put vinegar in the dish, he said they steam the tofu to make it softer. I'm not sure why that would make it sour? I passed on the tofu and just asked them for extra vegetables. I don't want sour tofu, even if it's because of vinegar. This was my favorite dish, although it still wasn't great. The service is friendly and there's lots of nearby parking. It's a little pricey. There's a bar area and they have happy hour from 5-7pm. The food was nicely presented. However, I wasn't impressed. I won't be going back any time soon.

I went here for happy hour with some friends this past weekend. Yes, that's right...this Coconut Bay offers a daily happy hour from 5-7pm. Well drinks and beer are 1/2 off! I had rum with pineapple juice, and the bartender made it nice and strong. The best part is they offer free appetizers. We had chicken satay and eggrolls. We also chose to buy the spicy peanuts and shrimp seviche. All the appetizers were very good. My only complaint is that the bar area is a bit crowded, so all of us were crowded around one wobbly table.

I actually really like this place, considering how hard it is to find good Thai place in San Mateo. I usually have to go to San Francisco or San Carlos for a good Thai place, so I'm really glad I found Coconut Bay. Their Angel Chicken Wings, Yellow Curry, and coconut rice were all delicious. I'm very picky with my curry and I judge all Thai place by how good their curry is. So, when I enjoyed the curry, I knew I have to come back and I will tonight. Also, great, friendly service.

  • Chantal P.

People, people, people, taste. mmm... Good! The people who work there couldn't be more considerate and more welcoming. The menu has an awesome variety of thai food. My favorite is their Pad Thai with shrimp and when I use to eat red meat I'd order the Mint Leaf Surprise. If you're looking for an easy lunch choice on a weekend afternoon they have lunch specials for like, $8 or something... they have a hodgepodge variety of little thai yummies in a lunch box. I've been going to Coconut Bay for so long and with my younger sister and family. It's the type of place that if you go there often they recognize you. It always makes me when I return. A nice restaurant which welcomes families, but has the sophistication of a date-night dinner. Near the main street, but not over-whelmed by outside activity, it's a no-brainer meal decision. Your tummy will be happy.

The place seems to be like any other Asian / Pacific Islander restaurant. When you walk in, it is decorated with a Thai theme...just like if where to walk into any other Thai place or Malaysian place, etc. The food was pretty good and there was just enough for everyone. I too was here for a wedding rehearsal dinner so all the food was pre-ordered. At first, I was iffy on if there would be enough for everyone because Thai places usually serve very small portions and I myself am a big eater so it takes a lot to fill me up. Well, I am glad to say that this place did do them job. Perhaps the couple had ordered just enough? Overall I give this place a three. It was nothing amazing, nor did it really, really impress me but it was a good place in general. Service could have been better and prices? I didn't pay so I can't comment on that.

If you are headed here...turn away now, do not pass go or collect $200, just keep going! I don't know where my fellow yelpsters have eaten Thai food, but this place pales in comparison!!! The salad was boring, the tofu was warm and it was so bad we sent it back...a salad! Then we moved on to the entrees, basil rubber and way too garlicky beef...oh I'm sorry I mean basil chicken, but it had such a weird texture and was so spicy (we asked for medium and I am not afraid of spice by any means), it was inedible!!! The garlic beef wasn't terrible, but it had more garlic than beef! After we sent the salad back, they then tried to charge us for it and when I mentioned it, with no problem she took it off, but I more felt they were trying to get over on me to see I'd I'd pay for! I will never come here again and I advise you to find a different thai place to have some yummy goodness!

One thing going good for this place is lunches are cheap ($7-8) But the portions are small. And the food is kinda blah. And it's definitely not the most authentic Thai. And because it gets so crowded/busy... the servers are a little pushy and rude. But it works in a pinch and since I call in my orders to-go, I don't mind it once in a blue moon.

The place has cute decor; a little on the small side but like I've said in the past - what Thai place isn't small and cute? The food was pretty good. All I can say is that I left this place feeling fat and really stuffed. We came here with a big party for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The couple ordered more than enough food for everyone. At first I thought I would be hungry still because the waiters serve the rice to you and they only put a tiny scoop on your plate. But I guess the other food we had ordered did a good job filling my tummy. I don't think there was anything I didn't enjoy. The tom yum soup was very good. I had the spicy angel wings for the first time here and I really liked it. It was sweet and spicy - just the way I like it. The prices seemed reasonable. The service was ok... I gave this place three stars because the food was good but wasn't so extraordinary that I left the restaurant talking about it.

I phoned it in, still had to wait a few mins. No big deal. The lunch specials on the weekdays are very very reasonable. Like what other reviewers say, the food is not traditional and is quite unique. Plenty of strong spices, its quite a delight. Servings could be a bit larger, but everything else is nice.

Great noodles, easy parking (especially around Burlingame) and super decent-sized portions. The Thai staples are all good: pad thai, curries, see ew, and kee mow. However, their coconut rice is superb. It's like they marinated the rice into cream of coconut for three full days before steaming it. We come here just for their coconut rice. There is even a bar if you want to have a drink or two here while you wait. If you're looking for a good, solid Thai joint on the Peninsula, this place is it.

It's okay. Been here twice. Once for din and once for lunch. Lunch menu is good. Nicely priced and good selection. I loved the red curry chicken. It was delicious. The dinner was just average. I remember the tom yum soup was nothing spectacular. I'd try the lunch 1st, if I was you!

Yuuuuuum!! Thai food is always delicious, but somehow this restaurant seems a cut above! And great presentation - pineapple fried rice comes in a pineapple half, pumpkin curry comes in a pumpkin... Just really yummy food at very reasonable prices. Have already been back and it hasn't even been a week! I'm addicted....

This is my first time to this Thai restaurant. What I liked outweighed what I didn't like. The sauce that came with the roti was unusual and was so tasty that we kept the sauce for the remainder of the meal. The roti itself was heavy and rather modest in portion. The best dish we ordered was special of the day, a pork dish called Moh Kha so something like that whose spelling I may have butchered. The green curry was also very tasty. The roast duck dish was so-so while the sweet basil tofu was a disappointment. The fried tofu had no character and the sauce was not particularly noteworthy.

I've held two parties at Coconut Bay so far and the service doesn't get better than this. The latest party was for a birthday with about 60 people and everything turned out perfect. The service was impeccable. Our guests really enjoyed and remembered the food. We brought our own cake that they cut and served without an additional fee. The prices are so reasonable for the great food and service that we'll be hosting more parties here. Some of our favorite dishes are the yellow chicken curry, beef peanut sauce, pad thai and the roti for dessert is a must. Thanks Coconut Bay for two great parties :)

Good Thai food. The service is always outstanding and it is the kind of place where every guest is made to feel at home. Our favorite server always remembers our names and gives our kids ice cream on the house. I'd give it 5 stars, but I have to reserve that for Cha'am in Berkeley.

I've been here three times now. Both of the first two times I swore never to go here again. But if I kept my promises not to re-visit a restaurant just because one thing irked me, I'd run out of restaurants. First visit (dinner): Were told the wait would be 20 minutes. While we waited at the bar, we saw a couple that came in after us get seated before us. This is a big no-no. We were obviously forgotten. So I swore I wouldn't come back. Eventually we got seated and got to eat. The roti was amazing, the Coconut Bay beer (or is it Dark Bay???) was great, and the food was pretty good. The server was nice, though slow. Second visit (dinner): We were seated immediately, but service was painfully slow. I swore I would never come again. Same as before: great roti and beer, pretty good food. Third visit (lunch): We were seated immediately. No drinks this time, so I had to settle for great roti only. Again, the food hit the spot. This time... I admit, I'll likely be back to try happy hour at some point. Overall, the food is tasty and hits the spot. I'm vegetarian and they have extensive vegetarian options (relative to other local restaurants). I recommend making reservations if you're going during the dinner hour Thurs-Sat.

Let's start with the food... We ordered three dishes; my favorite was the tom yum soup. You can't go wrong with that because it's a traditional dish. Next is the Papaya salad which lacked spice and flavoring. The third dish was the Drunkard noodles....again it was supposed to by spicy but it had none. I guess what the waitress should of done is ask us how spicy we like our food and not assume that we can't handle a little spiciness. The service was attentive; probably because it was on a quiet Sunday evening and less tables to wait on. However, I did think they were friendly because they always had a smile on their face. Parking was easy...again it was Sunday. I'm not from Burlingame therefore I don't know the area. Overall, this place is just ok. I've had better Thai food.

We ate there recently on advice from a friend. Preface: we have extensive experience of all things Thai. As for Coconut Bay: Nice decor, good atmosphere. Service was fairly indifferent. As for the food: it was fine, but none of the items we ordered was very THAI. I'd give this place a miss if authentic Thai food is what you're looking for...

This place was good. We had the roti, lady fingers, coconut rice, and the paid thai, which were all pretty good. The chicken eggplant and the chicken basil were both kinda dry. yeah I know..the latest reviews are so un-inspiring! I'm un-inspired!

Very good prices and pretty good Thai food. The service is great, everyone is super friendly and the design would be great if they put just a little more work into it, looks a little old but whatever, I come here for the food, not eye candy. Pumpkin curry here is DELISH with chunks of pumpking it is SOOOOO good!!! Noodle dishes are yummy as well but when are noodle dishes not? I hear they have a great and inexpensive lunch menu too.

I think the food is good, though I haven't tasted what I've actually ordered yet. My wife and I just moved into town. The first time we got there about half hour before closing and one of the wait staff girls gave a very obvious sigh at our arrival, and another asked us if we could take it to go. We can't be seated half hour before the advertised closing time?! Not only that, but the order was wrong. I ordered yellow chicken curry, no onions and medium spicy. What do I get? Onions and completely mild. The second time I ordered there (tonight) I asked for the same thing. What do I get? Onions and mild. I'm starting to get really irritated with them screwing up what I order.

Great curry beef but I come here for fish cake appetizers . . . reasonable prices but understaffing makes service a bit slow. This is an alternative if you do not want to drive to SF for real Thai experience.

We went to this restaurant on a Sunday evening with a group of 6. When we arrived at 7pm, the place was packed, but by 8pm, there were only 3 tables occupied. I suddenly turned around and everyone was gone. Did I fart? I was meeting some friends who were driving up from the South Bay, they picked this place only because they didn't want to drive all the way up to San Francisco and deal with traffic!~ For appetizers, we ordered the Golden Cups and Lady Finger Rolls which were over fried and very greasy. Since I was with a large group and we're all Asian, we decided to eat family style so I was able to try many different dishes. The Legendary Pad Thai didn't live up to its name as the noodles were very sticky and dry. When I tried to take a portion of the noodles, the whole lump got stuck to my fork and the whole group thought I was being a greedy hog!~ Of the 2 curries we ordered (yellow and green), I prefer the mild taste of the yellow. I prefer alot of 'yellow' things in my life, including the girls I chase... anways. The Pineapple Fried Rice was not very memorable while the Fried Chili Pompano was more vegetable than fish. The tangy Vegetables were over cooked but the beef portions of the Sweet Basil Beef were quite generous. I also could not smell or taste any jasmine on the Jasmine Rice. The waitress was attentive, friendly and kinda cute in a immigrant sort of way. But coming here from San Francisco where I could find better and cheaper Thai restaurants, the only reasons I would visit this restaurant is because of the ample parking available and the small-town atmosphere shops in the surrounding area.

the pad thai and crab paste rice is average. but they have these spicy fried chicken wings that are pretty darn tasty. the green thai curry is also not bad but too watery for my liking. the service is a bit slow and the prices are a little above normal. parking is easily available on the street. it's a thai restaurant...but unfortunately, it's not a great thai restaurant.

Nice Restuarant , good food till I found a plastic (polythene)layer in my "savory sea bass".

  • J M.

I think this place has an all around good menu. I really like their garlic rice and sea-bass. We're still experimenting with other dishes, but nothing really seems to grab my attention yet - especially with their seafood dishes. Beef satay was a bit "stringy" and most other dishes were just ok. Narin next door is the sister restaurant of our all time favorite Narai which closed down in SF. However, although Narin's menu appears the same, its not the same, and we actually like Coconut Bay better. Still on the search for a 5 star thai place.

Experienced Coconut Bay yesterday for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised by their reasonable lunch prices. They also offer $7.95 lunch options which all sounded good. We ordered their Drunkard Noodles, the Papaya Salad/BBQ Chicken $7.95 Lunch, and Fried Noodles with Chicken and Broccoli. All was good and cooked well. My favorite turned out to be their Duck Salad! Service was excellent. I think I am going to have to return for dinner.

One of the better Thai places in the bay area! The curries are very good, without being too heavy or spicy. Also, if you need gluten-free options, ask to speak to Lurt-- he was incredibly helpful (lots of gluten free choices).

Went here on a workday lunch outing. My coworker was so intrigued w/this restaurant and implored all of us go try it out. Okay..burlingame ethnic food is a true oxymoron..whatever the cuisine is. I warned my co-worker as such, but she was insistent that we all try it. Already knowing that, and then having to head to this Thai place was setting me up for it to fail. Sadly it did. All you PF chang lovers rejoice. You don't have to go to Palo ALto, Vegas, or LA for sweet/sourey food. You can get your vinegar/sugar fix here at Coconut Bay. We had the flat noodes, egg rolls, a couple of the side dishes etc. Now what I'm saying is divergent of the popular view there. IF you're a chad bradman, or ashley...you'll LOVE this stuff. People have glowing reviews of this place. It's all according to your palette and penchant for vinegar/sugar satisfaction! Food came out great, heated and flavored decently. IT wasn't anything special, and I am not overly impressed by food just cuz it's sprinkles w/coconut or has it in the name of the restaurant. The other patrons were chad bradman, and ashley's older parents Gabe, and Francine bradman(yes..these are generic names), who want to be adventurous in food in spirit, but not in application. Everything is PF Chang tasting and doesn't stray off from that. They get a pretty good following of Gabe/Francine corporate folk and do well for themselves. If you are looking for REALLY GOOD thai food...look not in burlingame. If you are in the mood for PF Changs ...come to Coconut bay.

Food here is wonderful! We eat here once a month and frequently bring biz guests here for lunch. Service is always kind, punctual, and accurate. I've never had a problem. One of the few restaurants left where the owner comes around table by table to make sure all is well. I really like that. Pook is doing a great job. It's nice to have such a great bar, food, and environment one block off of Burlingame Ave. Keep up the great work!

My husband and I have been here several times and enjoyed ourselves - it is a nice restaurant to have in our neighborhood... Pros: Good appetizers, friendly owner, generous drink pours in the bar area, excellent lunch specials... Cons: Can be a bit crowded during Fri/Sat dinner hours - try to call ahead for a reservation... Recommended Dishes: Roti Appetizer - Slices of fried Roti bread w/ a Curry Sauce that is to die for - we get this every time! Also....the Lamb Curry has a nice Cocunut-type curry, the Drunkard Noodles are good, and I enjoyed the Chicken w/ Peanut Curry for Lunch....the Egg Rolls that I had w/ the lunch were also good as well as the soup that they served with it - all in all the lunch specials are a good deal! My husband and I both enjoy the taste of their special Cocunut Bay Beer (it is a darker beer with a nice flavor) - we would definitely be back for lunch and would like to try out their happy hour special (I believe it is Mon-Frid 5-7 pm) sometime - a few beers and some roti would really hit the spot!

Yum!!! Thanks to yelpers for this find. My dinner mate and I ordered the green curry roti, crab paste rice, and bean curd and eggplant. All three dishes rocked. The flavors were all distinct and yet complimentary. The prices were reasonable (for Thai food). We'll definitely be back! My only issue with the otherwise perfect dinner was the lack of service from our waitress. I think she was just overworked but we had to ask for water refills a couple times, and we waited a while before our order was taken and getting our entrees (after other patrons who ordered after us). p.s. I have been back a couple times - more satisfied and tasty than ever!

Decent place for lunch time. But beware, it can be VERY VERY SLOW, so budget your time! and if you see a crowd, move on, they have very slow service!!! a lunch hour is not going to be enough... food is pretty good and have a decent lunch menu for $7.95, which includes a bowl of an entree, rice, salad, and veggie egg rolls and a dipping sauce =) good deal!

What to do when you want to visit your friends from Palo Alto, but no one wants to drive forty minutes? Why, rendezvous in Burlingame of course. Given the relative dearth of Thai places in the city, Coconut Bay seemed like a solid choice. I haven't eaten on the peninsula in a long time, and this place reminded me of being back in Mountain View, very sleek-bourgeois. The prices are quite reasonable given the polished ambience, however (most dishes are under $10, even at dinner). Overall, I'd say it fills the same sort of MOR Thai niche as Spice Islands did (though that was technically Malaysian). I tried both the Green Curry and the fried rice, and they complemented each other nicely. They also have a decent cocktail menu and my old-fashioned was made to perfection (could have arrived a little faster though; the point of cocktails, IMO, is to drink them while you're waiting for the food). Oh, and another thing: just because there's only sauce left in the curry bowl doesn't necessarily mean I'm done with it. I've still got a spoon, haven't I? Of course, just about every place takes the food away before I get a chance to lick the plate clean:) But all in all, a very pleasant experience. (That's right, pleasant--this is, after all, the suburbs)

  • Kevin G.

This place is not bad, overall. The prices are pretty reasonable. They make some excellent cocktails. The coconut bay soup is good, as is the yellow curry. The sticky rice and mango for dessert is fantastic. Then again, I'd be worried if they could screw that up. Neither the lemon grass chicken nor the basil chicken were very good. Both were overcooked, tough and bland. Service can be very slow at times, and the wait rather long. I would definitely make reservations during dinnertime.

Rick and I liked the two dishes we ordered for lunch. We got this crazy looking wonton, it was fried with potato and curry. Really interesting presentation and good to the taste buds. Our second dish was the fish special. It was really good and flavorful. The restaurant was clean and the service was good. Our glasses were never empty. I would definitely eat here again.

Best Thai Food in Burlingame/San Mateo! The place is dim and perfect for a dates! You have a small candle burning on each table. Food is good especially the Pineapple Fried Rice which they serve in a really Pineapple that is cut in half. The price is cheap for a upscale Thai restaurant. Definitely be back plus it's like 4 block away from my place.

Been here several times on Sunday cuz the kid was hungry mid afternoon while in the area. The food is overpriced, and under-whelming. The service is more under-whelming and annoying. I can't remember one memorable dish I've ordered here. Won't be going back since the kids gone vegan.

I've eaten at numerous Thai spots in SF and up and down the Peninsula and have to say Coconut Bay ranks near the bottom of that list. If you're used to eating at Thai restaurants like Marnee Thai, Sukhothai, Khan Toke, Chiang Mai, and King of Thai Noodle, you may want to pass on Coconut Bay. The food here is not very authentic. My review is based on the dinner I had which included the Beef Salad, Yellow Curry Chicken, and Sweet Basil Shrimp.

Setting: Very nice quaint place. It can be a very romantic spot, as well as casual. There's a small bar area for small hang outs. Restroom is clean, but the ramp down towards it can be a little bit dangerous...it's quite slippery. Food: Very good for the price. A group of 4 can order 4 plates family style, with rice, and 2 desserts, and come out paying just ~$16/pp. The dishes were tasty, and filling. I like that there's choices for spicyness for those who are sensitive to it. Service: No complaints here. The bill had "tip recommendation" too. All restaurants should have this. Now if they could just split the bill price between how many people in the party, that would be great! =) Conclusion: Nice little spot to hang with a date.

Meh... it's OK here. V ordered the Red Curry Chicken which was room tempature and not very flavorful, and I ordered the Mas-sa-man curry which was also luke warm although better tasting still nothing to write home about. I'll probably give it another try because it's so close to my house.

I have only been for lunch, and love this place. The $6.95 lunch special can't be beat, so long as you have the time and patience. The service runs on the slow side unless you continually flag the waiter down. The lunch special comes with soup, salad (great salad!) and small appetizer rolls (not sure what they are called) and your selected dish. My favorite is the man-sa-man (or something like that!). I have also tried the chicken basil, but that was on the spicy side for me. My friends who like spicy, love the chicken basil.

The food here is good thai food for being in the peninsula, but I still like Osha better in the city. The flavors don't run very deep here, and the service is a little underwhelming. I'll go there if I have a craving for thai food that doesn't go away, but its not a place I rush out to all the time.

In the short time I've been living here in the Bay Area, I've developed a taste for Thai cuisine. Pad Thai and Basil Chicken were my standards in the past and I was never really thrilled with either of those choices. Now, it's all about the curry for me. The creamy goodness of a great green curry over rice is something that I've come to appreciate and Coconut Bay does it well. The lunch specials with egg rolls and salad are affordably priced at $6.95 which is an added bonus. The decor is actually nicer than what I would have expected and it would seem that the owners took the time to create a slightly exotic atmosphere.

I haven't eaten in the restaurant section of this place because I always go here for happy hour. $3 cosmos!! And happy hour is EVERYDAY from 5PM - 7PM. Weekends are great because it's not too busy. During the weekdays it can get crowded....standing room only. Pookie, the owner, is awesome! If anything is wrong, let her know and she'll fix it. I have ordered from the dinner menu and what I have tried has been great however a vegetarian pad thai would be nice.

This is a great thai food restaurant. A few years back, I went on a trip to Thailand, and had lots amazing food there. Recently, I had been craving some authentic thai cuisine, and this place hits the spot. My favorite dish was the green curry, which I requested for spicy and it had a real nice kick to it. Their prices are very fair and they give a good portion of food. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to a friend and definitely come back again!

-Updated 12-13-07- I came back here for lunch w/a group of coworkers. For Burlingame, their lunch special is pretty darn cheap! $6.95 gets you soup, salad, an egg roll, and your choice from a selection of entrees -- rice included..brown rice if you prefer

Personable and timely service for a place that seems to always be crowded. Serene ambiance and very dimly lit and relaxing. Their vegetables are always fresh and this particular night, my veggie tofu dish was juicy, fresh and filling. The brown rice, however, was just OK (texture was a little dry). Their curries are relatively mellow, at least those I've tasted. Another real plus, was the presentation of the kids' 'bento box' style dishes (yes, kids can appreciate these fine dining details if you expose them to it!). The roti appetizer was a bit greasy and the accompanying curry, watery; But, there are plenty of dishes I'm ready and willing to try in following visits to this Burlingame gem. A short, quick stroll away from bustling Burlingame Avenue.

One of the BEST Thai restaurants in the area. The appetizers are fantastic. They make very good curray's. The Owner is sincerly interested in you having a good experience. We love to take people here for lunch. They can make the food very hot and spicy if you like it that way!

my sister lives in burlingame, so i've been here on many occassions. the quality of the food is pretty standard as far as thai food goes. everything is decent. some dishes are pretty good, but nothing is outstanding. spring rolls, curries, and pad thai are pretty consistent and enjoyable. of all the items we ordered on our last visit, i would say the two that most stand out are the garlic prawns and the beancurd with eggplant. we special ordered the beancurd with eggplant so that it would be spicy, and it was great. definitely the most popular dish of the night! the fried prawns were disappointing. they tasted plain and had too much batter. while the prawns didn't meet my expectations, i really enjoyed the fried banana that came with the dish. the dungeness crab fried rice also seemed like an interesting item, but i was pretty disappointed with the dish because it wasn't as flavorful as i expected. coconut bay is a good place to get take out. the quality of the food is pretty consistent, so if you're looking for a place to get decent thai food, give it a try.

i very much enjoyed the dinner we had here. we had the spicy angel wings appetizer. sort of like thai style buffalo wings. kinda sweet with a little kick, really not that spicy. the sauce was tasty. then for entrees we had sweet basil chicken, peanut sauce beef, and pad thai noodles with pork. the peanut sauce beef i've had better sauce elsewhere but the beef was good. my most favorite was the pad thai. there was just something about it that left me wanting more. it was really good..next time i'd order it with chicken or prawns though and not the pork. the atmosphere is nice...there were lots of people for a wed night. the bar was full. It's a bit pricey but hey it's thai food. i'd come here again for dinner....and i'd love to try their happy hour.

I came here from San Francisco on the night of the grand opening of the new location. The pumpkin curry was great with coconut rice. The pad kee mao (drunken sh*%t noodles) had a great flavor of mint and basil infused into it. The lady fingers with dipping sauce were great for sharing--nice and crispy! The servers were very attentive and have great customer service. Very helpful and will go the extra mile to make things happen for you. The restaurant itself has a great setting. Indoor decor is elegant. There's an outdoor patio area too. I was thoroughly impressed all around.

Near-perfect except for the unfortunate surprise of my chicken dish (bbq chicken) being on the bone in 3 pieces instead of cut-up chicken breast like I'd anticipated. A minor fault... the rest of the food was great, and I was impressed by how much food I got for the killer $7.95 lunch special price: the chicken (good flavor, just not a fan of knawin' on animal bones!), sticky rice, papaya salad which was tart and refreshing, and three mini spring rolls with sweet & sour sauce. Cute, modern furnishings and lovely service. Not bad when your boss treats, either. =) I'll be back fo sho!

Well I have mixed reviews about this place. I have been going to Coconut Bay on and off for years and have always enjoyed the food. Tonight was no exception BUT I have to say that the prices for the food are ridiculous. $11-13 for a plate of Thai food, that is extortion. I think you can get the same quality food for about half the price at other local spots. However if you want good food and don't mind walking out broke after an evening of Thai food, then knock yourself out. I think I have new places to explore.

Came here for lunch....ordered Yellow Curry, which wasn't very good, but tried the Red Curry a friend ordered and it was great. Next time I will order the Red Curry. Lunch price was right...Thai Ice Tea was really good. Since it was lunch hour, couldn't try out the bar but it looked intriguing. One con, on the way to the bathroom I was able to look into the kitchen and it was a god awful mess....made me a little apprehensive about the food, but it came out fine and I didn't get sick, so I guess all is well. Not the best place on earth, not terrible, just decent. I would go back if the opportunity came up but won't knock myself out to go again.

I hear they have a pretty decent happy hour, I really like their thai iced coffe or Jasmine Tea with a hint of sweetness... I always get it to go.

I have recently discovered this amazing restaurant that serves delicious Thai food. I have gone to many Thai foods in various states and I believe this is the best I have ever tasted. The prices are very reasonable and the servings are very large. The staff is very efficient and the service is very friendly. I would recommend the Thai iced tea as well as the Coconut Rice. The dessert is also very good and does not cost too much. Everyone should go try this amazing restaurant even if they don't like Thai food.

The green curry and tom kha soup are very good. Make sure to order the garlic rice - it's phenomenal.

Overall it was a great experience except for the entrees: The appetizers (5.0) we ordered were excellent! Siam Satay Chicken was tender and perfectly flavored! Even the peanut sauce was good. I usually avoid this dish because I have not had good experiences but I will definitely order this again here! Mint Leap Surprise - Wonderfully limey flavored salad with tender juicy and flavorful beef. For main entrees (3.0), we got the ginger paste prawns and yellow curry chicken. Prawns were overcooked but the snowpeas and sauce were great. I would not order the curry again. Food was not very spicy despite their "warning" that it would be. The wine (5.0), well, I only had 1 glass but it was very interesting. As promising as the description on the wine menu - hints of crisp apple, balanced by subtle notes of vanilla, with a finish consisting of dried hay and guava, etc. Yeah I know dried hay, that was...interesting. It was why I wanted to try it and it was good. I want to go back just to try their wines from labels that I've mostly not heard of...that I can't recall now dammit! Service was fantastic(5.0), it was as though the waiter had read our minds. Our water was filled frequently. Entrees arrived only after we finished our appetizers. Interior decor was very nice (5.0), it created a delightful ambience as a fine dining place should. Prices are higher than average not too bad if you don't order from the Chef's Suggestions section.

lunch combo here is amazing.. sometimes they don't give u the lunch menu until u ask for it, which I find weird especially since they advertise their lunch specials on their store window.. otherwise, pumpkin curry, pineapple fried rice, Thai iced tea and green curry lunch combo is always a safe choice for this place.. great place to impress for dinner party, make sure u order the calamari appetizer, sauce is heaven!

Meehhhhh is really all I have to say about this place for lack of a better word or description. While the food isn't bad, I definately wouldn't call it great. Prices are more or less average, as are the serving sizes, but I think the menu is lacking a little. My friends and I all shared a number of plates: the green curry was acutally pretty good but I didn't find the garlic chicken very satisfactory and the drunkard's noodles and the two lovers (pork and prawns) were nothing to write home about. They didn't even have pad see ew...what Thai restaurant doesn't serve that!? Why not make it a night and make your way over to SF where there are more than an abundance of Thai restaurants to choose from....

We ate dinner there with some good friends who go there frequently. It is a small place with friendly staff. Several members of the staff knew our friends by first name. The food was good. We ordered several dishes and shared. The crab fried rice was good all alone. We also had a piece of salmon wrapped in a banana leaf - good flavor with a two sauces - one light and one heavier with a sour cream base. One person ordered garlic rice and they kept us supplied with small bowls as we ran out. The top item on our table was the pumpkin curry spooned over the top of the garlic rice. The curry had a good spicy taste that just kept getting better. We don't live near this place but would go again when in that area.

He says : I went here with she says and another couple on a weeknight. We ate there around 8 pm and the restaurant was about half full. The decor is nice and comfortable....dimly lit and not overly loud. There were several highlights - the beef/mint flavored appetizer was very yummy (an almost Vietnamese flavor) and the green curry w/ chicken was also good. I have to say that I usually don't care for eggplant in most dishes - most often times they turn out mushy but the eggplant chicken with basil was great! The eggplant wasn't hard but it was just right. The only dish that disappointed was the "ginger beef." It wasn't bad but just not distinct in flavor. We wanted the "ginger paste" but I guess they got a little confused on our order. The portion size is a little smaller that I would have liked but hey, I'm a big eater (with an OK metabolism?!?! hahaha). Prices are about $10 a dish. The staff was pretty good. They dished out rice to each of us (nice touch) and gave us attentive service. They also let us stay for quite awhile to talk and didn't rush us to get out. We'll be back - RECOMMENDED! She Says: To keep it simple, it's a nice spot to eat and have a relaxing meal. Trendier than your classic thai, or at least tries to be. I wouldn't say its the best but it's consistant and I would come back.

I came here for lunch today with a coworker after he raved for days about their pumpkin curry that he had for dinner. So we decided to order a samosa appetizer and we each got a different curry, me the yellow with chicken and he the red with chicken. The food was good and for their lunch special, which I believe was about $7, you got a bowl of curry, a generous helping of rice, a small salad and an egg roll. You definitely cannot beat that kind of deal. I am interested in trying a few other items on their menu and will be taking a few other coworkers back with me next time!

THE SKINNY: When my dad makes us go to church, we always go to Coconut Bay after. Maybe it's because my ma knows the owner, or maybe it's the blessing from Jesus, but I always leave fat and happy. THE FATTY: If you're in the Peninsula, and don't want to make the drive to Marnee's in SF, then Coconut Bay it is. Thai iced tea, tom ka, spicy angel wings, roti with curry, roti a la mode or fried banana a la mode for dessert are my usual pickings. Ladyfinger rolls are a nice light appetizer. The dancing prawns always cause "ooohs" and "ahhhs". And I like that they redecorate every now and then to upkeep their Feng Shui.

GABRIEL: Jerry, you need to broaden your horizons. Thai food-- JERRY: -- hey, I *love* Thai food. GABRIEL: I thought you couldn't eat spicy food. JERRY: I can't. But I like my Thai mild, okay? GABRIEL: You baffle me. You're Latino and don't eat spicy? JERRY: This Coconut Bay place is good -- and just how I like my women. GABRIEL: This again? JERRY: Not too expensive. Nice presentation. Not too spicy. Creamy. GABRIEL: You like your women "creamy?" What does that even mean? JERRY: Yeah. That was a little too much information. GABRIEL: So why'd you give it only four stars? JERRY: Like I said, it's how I like my women: Needs more meat. GABRIEL: Oy vay!

If service is king in your dining world, you should steer clear of this restaurant. However, they serve some great food. I got a bit of a curveball trying to order my favorite dish "Pad See Ewe" (or however you spell it). It was actually named "Highway Noodles". The curries were great and the prices reasonable. Decor is nice, and burlingame is the trendiest place to be (in that area -____-). Though the service was slow, it was polite and nice. We ordered mango sticky rice for dessert, but they noted that the mangoes were not in season and just doubled up on the sticky rice part. Perfectly fine with me! So if you're not so bothered by bad service, or you have no shyness in yelling for your service, this is a great place to dine. Also, do not get the coffee here. I don't know if it was just the day I went, but it seemed diluted (like they reused the same grinds all day).

I have been going here for 10 years and still love the food. Their pumpkin curry is excellent and so is their Tom Kha soup. AND you can substitute their yummy brown rice for the white rice.

First, let me mention that I appreciated the very pleasant staff. If it was not for them, my visit here would have been a complete disappointment. As I waited for the rest of my party to arrive, I sat at the bar to order a drink. I ordered a simple vodka and tonic. The bartender seemed a bit challenged with communication and I've never been served this drink in a smaller class. At the dinner table, drinks (non-alcoholic) were also very small. The service was slow and a couple of the people who worked there didn't seem to speak English very well, as I found myself asking for things twice. For appetizers, we ordered the calamari, rangoon, and potstickers. The rangoon and potstickers were ok but the calamari was covered with a sauce that was a bit too rich and overwhelming in flavor and texture. We ordered bass that had a flavor which was equally overwhelming. The Peanut Sauce Beef was okay...had better. The Thai BBQ Chicken was nothing to die for. Although the price was reasonable, I enjoy going to dinner where the food doesn't make most of the people at my table frown. Sorry Coconut Bay. You're great people, but your food isn't.

DEEE-LISH! Consistently good food, good service: Had the: ~Golden Pouches (YUM- deep fried potato goodness) ~Basil Chicken (tender chicken all white meat, beautifully seasoned) ~Drunkard Noodles (need I say more) Also try the coconut rice and cucumber salad- they are $2.00 add ons and worth every penny. Good portions, always have more than one meal. Would get 5 stars if the place was climate controlled.

I've eaten here twice, first time I got the bbq chicken Second time I got the Crab paste rice dish. The chicken was huge and good the crab paste rice is really great with bbq pork and shrimp on the side. Their egg rolls and lady finger rolls are great too. At lunch they always give you a cup of soup. Their service is friendly and fast. their store is cute and quiet with a rose at the end of every table. I've seen other customers eat very interesting looking food. They have great presentation. There was soup in a pumpkin and crispy noodles that looked like a wreath surrounding whatever you're supposed to eat it with. You should try it~

This is one of my favorite Thai places in the peninsula and to be absoultely fair I probably do take out more than I dine in (due to my three year old)-- so my rating is primarily based on the food. I have dined in a number of times and the only thing I will say is that althoughh the food quality is still high, the wait staff is a bit inconsistent. Wait times are random-- sometimes they are very fast other they take forever. Only dine in if you don't care how long you're eating for. Now as for the food-- the quality is excellent. We're fans of the lady finger rolls and the garden fresh rolls. The golden pouches are nice too. Crab Fried rice is nice are as the curry dishes. You can't go wrong with the pad thai or highway noodles and my hisband is a big fan of the two lovers shrimp and pork dish.

This review is late because we come here often. The owner and staff knows us pretty well. We tend to order the same thing because we have tried some of their dishes and came into conclusion that the food we order is really really good. For entree we always order the Chilean Sea Bass and the sauce is too die for. Though their cucumber salad is hit or miss, it's a hit more often than a miss. You have to order their soft shell crab and their calamari. I have tasted a lot of calamari but so far Coconut's is the best. I love everything spicy so they know to make my food really really spicy. Like putting wasabi directly to your food without the soy sauce. Though I am a fan of this place. I would say there are times it's a miss and I've left this place disappointed. The cucumber salad's sauce doesn't always taste the same. Sometimes spicy sometimes not. Pad Thai a little dry. Try the Ladyfinger rolls, chicken satay and the fried banana with ice cream.

Had dinner with my two teen kids, we ordered yellow curry, sweet basil, and one not from manu but I love, Larb, I asked if they can make it. The waiter was courteous and checked with kitchen right away. They made it just for me. all 3 dishes are great, the service was perfect too. I will definitely dine here again.

coconut bay reminds me of banana bay in rowland heights. except this place seems a little americanized to be called authentic thai cuisine. the portions did not really fill me up as i went home and filled myself up with more food. i would only take my friends here if they didn't want to go all out on authentic thai.

Lunch special (entree, rice, salad, egg rolls and soup) makes this place a super great deal - $7.95 until 3:00 p.m. including weekends! Service is sweet. If you're craving some pretty yummy curry over rice, Coconut Bay is a good option. They're quick and to the point, just like this review...

I'm not sure why I can't give this a 5, I guess I'm just a hard one to please. Since I live close by, I used to just pick up food on my way home after work. But now I make sure to sit for a while. Perhaps their Singapore slings have something to do with that? That's what I love about this place- where else in this town can you even get a Singapore Sling, or a Gin and Thai Tea? The food has always been fantastic (the Dancing Prawns are worth bringing your dancing shoes for), and I love that they can adjust the spicyness to your taste- try the "pookie spicy" if you're really adventurous. I like thai food, and I prefer coming here because it's a little bigger than the other local thai place. The bar area is a little small, but it's separated from the eating area and very comfortable. One thing I'll always rave about this place for- the staff is very warm and friendly. Their 8th year anniversary is coming up shortly, and this place shows no signs of disappearing anytime soon (like so many other Burlingame restaurants). Definitely a keeper!

Good taste and value! Went there for lunch based on the reviews. We ordered Drunkard Noodles and Red Curry (chicken) lunch specials. The Drunkard noodles are pretty good and tasty. For $7.00, its a pretty good deal. Nice decor too.

Terrible service, absolutely one of the worst ever in this reagrd. So i go to lunch here and they take over 80 minutes to serve the first dish to our table. It took an additional 40 minutes after the first person got their food (red curry chicken) for last person to get their dish (beef pad thai), and the first person has finished eating by now. To top this off, i order chicken pad thai, they try to serve me shrimp pad thai 35 minutes after serving first dish to table, i refused this dish because i ordered chicken. They decide to take it back to kitchen, pick out shrimps, add in chicken, and microwave and re-serve it. I find i keep tasting something fishy in certain spots, tofu tastes like shrimp, chicken tasted fishy also. Noodles are all mixed up and rubbery. I wanted to send it back but did not due to already being there 2 hours for what should have been a 30-45 minute lunch . All other FRESH pad Thai dishes coming out nice neat and layered with nice looking noodles while mine was all mixed up and noodles stuck together, it was so obvious they re-hashed a shrimp dish into chicken. If i was allergic to shrimp, i could have died and they would have a huge lawsuit. Crappiest thai place i have ever been to, i suggest you take your business elsewhere. If you have a shrimp allergy STAY AWAY from this place!

Pad See Ew is my favorite! I usually judge Thai restaurants based on how this dish turned out. Noodles were just right with the right flavoring. The veggie with peanut sauce was just OK, a bit too sweet. The garden spring rolls were fresh and yummy!! Good service and we were seated promptly! Will come back.

I just moved to the area and found quite a few positive reviews on Yelp fo rthis Thai restaurant so I gave it a try. Well it was worth it! Much better than the place we used to go in San Mateo on 4th street. We ordered 2 curries - Panang Chicken and Yellow Chicken as well as an appetizer of fried spring rolls. The curries were excellent - full of flavor but not greasy or too heavy. The spring rolls were good, although not my favoriete. They make them a bit different than most places as they come in long oieces, like a churro - this results in a bit of an overwhelming fried flavor. Take out service was quick and very friendly. The ambiance of the restauarant is very appealing as well so I look forward to dine in as well. Prices were on par with other thai restaurants (The curries ran $8.99) Enjoy!

I tried this place for the first time yesterday, It had a very nice ambiance and was extremely clean. I went during lunch but surprisingly it wasn't busy, maybe it was because of the major storm we just had. We were seated promptly and served really great food in a timely manner, I had the sweet basil rice plate (with ground chicken) YUM and my boyfriend and I shared the nicely presented ladyfinger rolls. My boyfriend is a plain jane so he got the chicken fried rice and for the record there wasn't a piece of rice left... Oh if you go there.... you have to get the coconut bay soup!! very good... All in all they left a good taste in my mouth.. literally...

If I could, I would give this place no stars. My family and I went there last year. Everything we had was terrible!! The pineapple fried rice was extremely mediocre and the curry got my entire family sick. I give stars to their decor and thumbs up to having an excellent spot on the block where everyone can see them. I would go to Narin. Their cook is straight from Bangkok, Thailand and cooks family-style. Narin's food has a taste of home cooking. I have also been going to Narin since they first opened about 16 years ago. I will remain a loyal customer. I highly suggest that if you were willing to try Coconut Bay, please take a 30 second walk to Narin (next to AceHardware and Vinyl Room). They are best known for their spicy chicken, eggplant curries, and other exquisite dishes that do not give you excruciating stomach pains. You will not be disappointed with both service and food. Unlike Coconut Bay, it does not have a bar, but you can easily go to the Vinyl room after you eat and have a drink!!

Good place for a nice date. The food is very good, the service is very attentive, and the atmosphere is sophisticated. You don't have to get dressed up but the atmosphere is slightly more formal then casual. Located in downtown Burlingame a block off of Burlingame Ave, Coconut Bay is priced fairly. Drinks are a little pricey but not terrible. The focus is more on the quality and taste then quantity. If you are really hungry, get an appetizer and you'll be all set.

I had been here a few times for lunch a few years ago and it was nothing special to write home about, typical thai food I thought. But last Friday I had a serious craving for thai and I was in Burlingame so this was the only thai place I could think of in the area. walked in, sat at the bar and sipped on an Anchor Steam while they set our table. Started off with some angel wings, then moved on to coconut milk chicken curry and minced thai basil chicken. The key is to ask for it minced, our waiter said minced is actually the traditional way to go. Seriously solid all around, pretty comparable to some of the thai places in the city.

We go there with our two young kids a lot. We have ALWAYS had great service and great food. We often do take out but when we do eat there the servers are really kind, friendly and helpful. What can I say...it's a Thai restaurant in Burlingame. The pad Thai and pad se ew are good but the bbq chicken was a bit dry while it's sauce was a bit too sugary...but I guess I'm used to the Thai BBQ chain! Overall I consider this an average Thai restaurant but it gets an extra star for having roti on it's dessert menu! An absolute must if you come here! It's basically a more flaky version of a funnel cake but instead of powdered sugar, it's coated in condensed milk! Sooooo good!

The Green Curry is Great!!! Pad Thai- The best ive ever had..sticky noodles...superb burst of flavor. Coconut Rice-Costs a lil extra but well worth it. Overall, this is my favorite Thai restaurant in the Bay Area..If you are in the area i suggest going here.

The food is always tasty and delicious. Great casual little place to meet up with friends. The curry roti, spicy prawns, basil chicken and pad thai are must haves! The fried golden pouches are sinful delights! Wash everything down with a yummy thai ice coffee. I'm rubbing my belly just thinking about the meal I had there last night! UPDATE: Went back for lunch recently and the service was very, very slow. My basil chicken was cold (like it was just defrosted) and the roti had a little too much grease.

The service and food here are great. All the servers here are so pleasant, it's just too bad that there weren't more people in the restaurant for them to attend to. I don't know why, but every time I have been here, either for lunch or dinner, there are always so many open tables. The menu selection is great and prices are inexpensive. The decor is modern but kind of quirky (hula skirt around the front table and curvy carnival mirror in the bathroom). There is a great bar separated from the dining area, and it's sad to see it not being taken advantage of. If you're craving Thai/Vietnamese food, definitely try this place out. The roti with curry sauce and fried calamari are great starters. Try their specials - they won't disappoint.

I can't understand the positive reviews on this restaurant. I've been there 3-4 times, each time hoping for better food. When I ate there with my Singapore-trained chef friend, he told me that their Pad Thai is cooked in KETCHUP! The crab fried rice was overcooked and partially burnt. And the variation on the lunch menu is really just permutations of curry/peanut slopped over the beef/chicken/tofu. It all seems like a lazy, careless effort. Although the wait staff is attentive and the interior is somewhat exotic, for Thai food, I prefer Narin Thai half a block away, up Park St.

YUM. this place is quite cute and cozy with a nice full bar/waiting area. i enjoyed my pad thai very much despite the chicken being tough and dry. the noodles were good and that was all i really wanted. the check comes in a cute wooden coffin and the service is rather fast and friendly. also, not expensive.

I can't get enough of this restaurant. By far the best yellow coconut curry I have ever had. I love curry and it is very hard to find it done just right. Whether I do carry out or dine in the service is exceptional and always friendly no matter how busy there are. The siam satay with peanut sauce is amazing as well for an appitizer. The Roti is to die for!!!!!!!!! That comes with a curry sauce to dip too. I can't rave enough about this place!

Poor rating due to the following: The last TWO times that I have been here, the wait staff has tried to get away with slipping in an 18% tip onto the bill then recommending an ADDITIONAL tip when I sign the credit card slip. Maybe appropriate with a large group but not a party of 2 adults and 3 kids. Pretty weak. Pay with caution.

yum yum, i can't get enough of their pineapple fried rice. this is a nice place just off the main burlingame strip. it's fairly quiet and the service is pleasant, albeit sometimes i've seen it take a little longer than i would like. the food is very tasty, full of flavor, and thank gawd not all the dishes taste the same. in other words the entire menu is not cooked with one of 4 sauces like at some thai joints. the prices are a little high, and i'd like larger portions, but that might be because i just eat too much and i'm used to eating at places like le cheval and cha' am where i fealt like i got more food for the $$

Excellent restaurant. It's got it all, delicious food, friendly service, and cool surroundings. I've been here several times for dinner and it's been a great experience everytime. we decided to check this place out instead of going to our usual haunt, roti indian bistro, which is right next door. the place was packed during the lunch hour, and the food was pretty good. seemed like a wide variety of different things, including different options for vegetarians. of course, i had to stick with the basil veggies and rice, since i have an obsession with basil. not too bad. everything wasn't too bad but we couldn't help but think of roti during the whole meal, thereby rushing out afterwards to get some roti naan. in other words, not quite a memorable meal, but i would definitely give it another shot.

This place has an interesting character. The setting is very quiet, and the athmosphere has a dimly sweet note to it. The food is very good. The taste has that kind of coconutty tinge to it, that makes you remember it for quiet a while. Service is great - attentive but not annoying.

Yehhh we finally found a new favorite Thai on the Peninsula, lately we have been underwhelmed by Thai restaurants in the Bay Area, particularly the Peninsula, last Friday we were actually headed to Narin but ended up at Coconut Bay, initially not too impressed with the roti (too thick and greasy a pancake, very disappointed by the curry sauce, too thin and no taste, now if that would have had the pumpkin curry sauce!!!!) but then......the entrees came out, we had ordered the pumpkin curry and the dancing prawns, both awesome dishes. Absolutely loved the pumpkin curry, great presentation and super curry sauce, the lemon sauce on the dancing prawns (stuffed with crab and chicken) did not look much like a lemon sauce it was a green sauce the sweet taste with a bite complimented the prawns very well. The latter dish we had to wait for a bit but our awesome smiley waitress came to apologize ahead of time and who can resist a smiley face like that....She also thanked us profusely when we offered to move our table over to accommodate another big group next to us so they could add some more people to their table. Definitely will return here to try some other dishes

i think stacey said it. nice presentation with not so nice food, i had a fickle dish thats not easy to make and they did just fine, however its pricey for its overall value-i think.. i'll be going back, but only cause i work near by and LOVE thai food so, eh...

Great place for Thai lunch. I had the chicken with peanut sauce - my only complaint would be a shortage of chicken. My fellow diners had red and green curries, both were good. The coconut based drinks were a big hit, too. Excellent spring rolls.

Had lunch on: March 3, 2006. Food was great. The service was very slow. There were only 2 people serving the entire area - they should've more. I would give only one more try. The price was just right. lunch combo with thai ice tea (plus tax) came out around $11.

one of my good friends adores this place, and while i think the food is good, i really never found it to be all that fantastic. the pad thai is good and they can really spice up the spicy dishes, but that's really all i have to say about it...not exciting!

Great little spot for a nice, inexpensive meal, that leaves you satisfied and happy. We love the roti as well as the basil chicken. What keeps me coming back is the Jasmine Tea! I sometimes stop in after work to get one to-go. They have a full bar if you looking for a cocktail to go with your meal. They also have a great lunch special that comes with your choice of entree, plus rice, salad and spring roll for $6.95.

as one of the reviews below says, this place indeed has 'character.' cute, cozy colorful spot with statues, paintings of things. i had some kind of lunch special served in a bento box with papaya salad (yummy), egg rolls (so-so.. i wasn't feelin' the sauce that came with it though), and bbq chicken (tasty). about $7-8 or so for lunch.. if i remember correctly. good sized portions. their fried bananas are good too. waitstaff were very quick to serve our food. pretty quiet on a sunday afternoon for lunch. a spot i'd consider a regular place to hit up.

The Bay Area of course has TONS of fantastic Thai restaurants. And of course a review is biased by the reviewer, but I have made my best effort to check out all the noteworthy Thai restaurants running from San Francisco to Milipitas,, and I honestly find this one to be the best. Their lunch special is fantastic (Spring roll, salad , rice, and a dish). The curry lamb was the most tender that Ive ever had, possibly even more tender than my mother's lamb curry. And Ive never had to wait more than a minute or two to get service. Ive tried most everything on the menu and have never been let down.
