YES. I'm all about good customer service, and this place is like the epitome of that. Elaine is THE NICEST girl, and she remembers me even when I don't come in for months. 5 stars because the service is bomb, and the prices are really good for what you get. I come here specifically for the bento boxes (get popcorn chicken!!). I consider it relatively healthy--minus the rice, there's cooked veggies, tofu, a tea egg, and meat. As someone who is always trying to eat more protein, this is the perfect meal. I might come here whenever I day drink... but I also come here when I'm sober, which says a lot about how much I like their bento boxes. :)

I think this is my favorite boba tea place in Berkeley that I've tried so far (: pearls are consistently chewy and sweet, and every drink i've had here has been on point. I like that they're not too sweet because places like sharetea seriously go way overboard with the syrups and sugar... the workers are also super kind and patient! they have a lot of snacks here and it looked like wifi, so it may be a great study spot!

Dear tea express, why do you make it so hard for me to spend money on you? You say you open at 11:30. Yet by 11:40, with a line of tired students forming outside on a hot hot day, your doors remain adamantly closed, your lights unlit. Now I stand outside your steps with nothing to do but write a passive aggressive review. If you're advertising you open at 11:30, for God's sake open at 11:30.

Bento box of popcorn chicken was yummy and filling. I tried some of my friends ground pork box...pretty yummy too. Green tea boba combo addition was so so. A little too sweet. Awesome deal tho for $8. I'll be back cause I got tofu, egg, vegetables, rice with the pop chix. Packed with protein for after work meal. I want to try out the other boxes. I did however wish they had a mayonaise/siracha dip for the pop chic. That would have been great. Chicken was really made well. Service was good too. Lady was nice.

I got an orange chicken bento box and a lavender milk tea to go. The lavender tea took 20 minutes and the chicken took 30. Both were decent and the prices are very good for college students. However, I don't think it was worth the wait. Maybe I'll come here again just for a drink but I don't think I want to wait so long for a quick meal again.

If you're looking for a solid place to get boba or milk tea in Berkeley, tea press (or moccaccino) is where it's at. The service is amazing (yes Elaine is very kind and sweet), and boba tastes great (try their Thai or jasmine) and there's never a line. I'm a fan of shatters and asha, but tea press takes the spot! drink well and prosper!

Surprisingly, this is the first boba place that I'm giving over 3 stars, and well deserved too. It's surprising because I love boba so much, but no other place nearby sells both delicious tea and fresh fruit smoothies, makes chewy and sweet boba, is CHEAP, has friendly staff, is family owned, AND is conveniently located close to my neck of campus! It costs me just $1.49 for a small jasmine tea, lightly sweetened and fragrant. I also adore the avocado fresh fruit milk smoothie, $4.25 but it's bigger than Sweetheart's. Thus, this is my new go-to for bubble tea. So sad I didn't try this place sooner since I pass them pretty much every day; I would've gladly supported them the last 2 years with all my past boba money. But they totally have me now for the next 2 years! They should get a new sign though. It still says Double Rainbow Cafe on the outside, people still refer to it as Moccacino, and Yelp says it's Tea Press...

Very flavorful boba tea. During our recent visit to Berkeley our daughter had to stop here at least once a day, enjoying a different flavor each time. Very friendly service!

Dear Moccacino (now Tea Press, but whatever, I like the old name better), Thank you for making my bubble tea addiction more affordable. The 2 for (now) $3.50 deal and the stamp cards for the off-deal items helped me pay my rent while still enjoying delicious milk tea. Also, Elaine is super sweet and incredibly efficient at her job -- props to her! Oh oh, and you take credit cards now! :D A million times thank you, Alice

I came here today because I have been wanting to try boba tea for a long time.. I came in and stared at the menu for like 10 minutes and finally got a Kiwi strawberry slushy with boba added:) there were two people in front of me and it took like 3 minutes to get my drink very quick service! The drink was really good and the boba was so weird! I enjoyed it but maybe next time I'll just get w slushy type drink! The staff were very nice and patient while I asked questions and quick too! The next time I'm in Berkeley I will for sure be coming back!

Ever since I was a freshman (and even before then, I've heard), Mocaccino/Tea Press has had this awesome deal that allows you to buy 2 drinks (jasmine green tea, jasmine milk tea, thai milk tea, and regular milk tea) for less than $3. This is an awesome deal for decent milk tea, especially since other places charge you around $3 for one drink. I haven't tried any other drinks here, but I did hear that their bento boxes are quite good and reasonably priced as well!

Tea Press/Mocachino Cafe is a decent staple of my diet here at Berkeley and in the impossible-to-count times I've been there, I have several things to say. Coming in, you'll definitely want one of their bento boxes and get the combo with a drink for $6.95? A full meal and drink for that price is an awesome deal. I recommend popcorn chicken or teriyaki pork the most! You get a hearty portion of rice, a tea egg, mapo tofu, and steamed veggies with the meat of your choice. Tea press only has 3 people working here... an old couple and their daughter, Elaine! They're all super nice. You'll always order with Elaine. They use a digital menu and even the Five Stars reward system. Very good value, food, and service... but the caveats. Service, while nice, is VERY, VERY SLOW. It takes on average somewhere from 15-20 minutes to get your food. You'll usually see a line of 3-4 people waiting, but again I think they're understaffed even though they might like that it's family owned. Elaine usually makes food/drinks after handling your money... without washing her hands. It's a little unsanitary IMO, but I've never been sick from eating/drinking at Tea Press? Definitely returning and would recommend, but your choice of what to make on the caveats.

The food/drinks aren't anything spectacular, but it's CHEAP and you get A LOT. Their bento box deal allows you to pick from a main entree with rice, veggies, and a tofu soup. The take out box is packed and definitely enough for two meals. The shop is pretty small, so it's definitely more of a grab and go type of place. It's also a family business, but because it's small, it can get backed up during lunch time. If you have the time to wait and you're short on cash, this spot will fill your tummy for not much at all.

Boba specials AND bento box specials. This place is college student affordable, tasty, and worth the bang for your buck. The Boba Tea Special is a lot cheaper than the ShareTea down the street and it still has the same great taste. They give you four options to choose from: Milk Tea, Jasmine Milk, Thai Tea, or Thai Coffee. It is a little sweet for my taste but I still enjoy coming here for boba from time to time because they have a stronger tea flavor. I also recommend trying the bento boxes too. The tea egg is a unique side dish that they include, which is often not an option at many restaurants.

I've been coming here since even before I started attending Cal--and back when they were still known as Moccacino. But even then they still had the best deal in town--two boba for $3.50?! Sign me up! The taste is just right for me--sure it's not like the super-hipster organic feel of the newer shops, but it's familiar and satisfying. Plus, I love their Taiwanese bento options--not only are they tasty, but you get a generous amount of side dishes as well! The cafe's always been family run I believe, so you should expect a bit of a wait if you're ordering food (~15 min or a little more if they're really busy) but the customer service has always been nice and friendly, and they've never messed up an order for me. Great place for grab-n-go lunch, especially with the PMT + bento deal for under $7!

  • Katie P.

Tea Press is one of my go-to meal stops in Berkeley! I liked it before the TV screens and reinstallments and when they still sold ice cream! I especially love the Curry chicken Bento box combo. It's a very reasonable price, usually around $6-7 total including boba! One of my favorite drinks was the black sesame milk tea, but I guess it never passed the trial run... Elaine is probably one of the best servers in Berkeley! She's really adorable and sweet, and she remembers names and chats with everyone who visits, surely the reason everyone keeps coming back for more ;) Their boba prices are the best, and there is a pretty good variety of tea flavors. I sometimes indulge in the selection of snacks at the counter, as well! Used to be cash only, but now have the electronic card swiping system.

Back, and this time around much happier. A couple years ago, my experience with the rose boba drink wasn't the best and I ended up giving this place 2 stars. Now, as a senior enjoying the remnants of her time at Berkeley, I've decided to swing by here again, which seems to be under new management (or at least a different name). I'll update as as come here another time for the beverages, but today... I'm here to try their BENTO BOXES. OPTIONS ($5.37 + tax): BBQ Pork Terriyaki Chicken Terriyaki Pork Curry Beef Stew Curry Chicken Curry Pork Marinated Ground Pork Original Beef Stew Popcorn Chicken Soy Sauce Chicken Sauteed Fresh Vegetables Orange Peel Chicken (There might be more options, but since Yelp is repeatedly refusing to save my drafts, I have lost them. How dare you, Yelp.) MY REVIEW: The bento boxes here are great for the price. My Soy Sauce Chicken bento came out with a tea egg, Asian tofu cubes, and steamed vegetables. Rice and the two dark-colored chicken drumsticks dominated the to-go box. I have to add, that the chicken color initially looked so off-putting; it's that deep brown, almost black. But don't let that deceive you, because the chicken was great. Now, the rice is definitely meant to be what guarantees to fill you up after you're done with the entree, but I was pretty satisfied with the two drumsticks, which were tender and marinated well. The vegetables look a bit limp and uninteresting, but eat them because 1) they're good for you and 2) they're pretty yummy. I waited for a total of maybe 10 minutes for my food to come out (which, in today's U.S. society, is no big deal when you have a phone to zone out on... sorry for the social commentary). The server/cashier woman was sweet and prompt, so I have to say my review shouts... 3.5 to 4 STARS because I'm happy with the affordability and relative quality. It's cheap, easy, and filling if not exactly FABULOUSLY healthy. I'd look forward to swinging by here in between classes when I'm hungry and needy for rice.

Update, Elaine is actually the sweetest server ever. Drinks and food here are great as is but if I could give a bonus star for service, I would. A+++

  • Jude N.

Cheap bento boxes and cheap boba drinks. This would be the equivalent of a "dive" boba joint if they existed. Still a step up from ubiquitous boba chains starting wtih a Q*. Server who ordered our drinks was also responsible for making our drinks and gathering our ourders. This added to the wait time qutie substantially. They should really consider hiring a second server since this place can get easily packed and the venue is qutie small. MIlk Tea was mediocre at best. No tangy tea flavor. Just sweet milk mixed lightly with tea. For the prices one can't really complain.

  • Amandine J.

They don't have a big range of teas but their lemon tea is definitely a must try! They're not expensive and I think they have a dairy-free option. I recommend it for the tea! Their bento is meh though. Not expensive at all but the 'veggies' don't seem fresh and are not very good. I took the teriyaki chicken once and it's okay.

I've gotten milk tea from here pretty often, and we even catered from here once for an event. The milk tea is pretty average, and the pearls are pretty chewy. The milk tea is too sweet even when you ask for less sugar, and I think the tea flavor could be stronger. The drinks here are pretty cheap though; you can get 2 for $3 (there are 3 choices for this deal: Thai milk tea, milk tea, and jasmine milk tea I believe?). It's not the best milk tea around the area, but it's probably the best quality for quantity!

I've been going to this cafe consistently for the past year now, and I feel like I have eaten here enough to justify giving 5 stars. Personable, inexpensive, and delicious. The thing I love about this place is that it's so personable. The cashier, the old lady in the back who makes the bento boxes, the drinks and food, everything in general. It's a very subtle thing but I'm not a number when getting boba here - I'm a customer being served. I like how when you order food you get a porcelain mug of water. Very homely. The one thing that keeps me coming back every time, however, is the Taiwanese bento boxes. They're so delicious and inexpensive. They remind me of home. I generally enjoy the non super Americanized ones; I usually pick the marinated ground beef, BBQ pork, or the popcorn chicken. There almost no place that will give you steamed veggies (flavoured too!), soft tofu, meat, rice, and a tea egg for the price you get here. It's fantastic. They also are consistent in quality; however, they're always upgrading. The serving area is now renovated and nice. They're also renovating their kitchen currently. It's nice to see that they want to improve what's already good. My only complaint is that they're closed right now because of it and I was really hoping to get my bento box fix. It's okay, it's worth waiting.

When ordering my barley milk tea, I was in for a surprise because it had actual barley in it. It wasn't a very nice surprise though because it was totally unexpected and just made me think that they made me a really gross drink with old stuff in it. But after a long couple seconds, I realized that it was just real barley. It would have been nice if they had told me when I was ordering that my drink would have real barley in it because then I would have decided on no boba. Oh well. After assuring myself that it was just barley, it was okay. Not bad, but not great either. I would have enjoyed it more without the barley, or without the boba, too, because with the barley and boba, it was just a lot to chew. On my next visit, I will definitely try another drink.

I love the 2 for $3.50 deal, even though I wish there were more options for flavors for the deal. Not a huge fan of that granite countertop and the service isn't always the fastest but the tea is reliably good. I had the popcorn chicken once and that was pretty yummy too. It's a pretty convenient location if you're on south side as well.

Everyone loves Elaine! She's the regular employee here who remembers everyone's orders and is so friendly, she is basically the boba fairy godmother :). The boba is always fresh, and the drinks are veeeery sweet, just the way I like them. The bentos are yummy, I like orange chicken or the fried chicken. There is a 15-20 minute wait for these though, I'd recommend calling in to order ahead of time. This shop is very small, with only 2-3 tables so it's a grab-n-go type of place.

  • Sarah H.

I usually get the jasmine green milk tea here and it's so deliciously fragrant that it sends me running back for more xD plus you can't go wrong with the boba special right? Service is pretty fast as well! The lady who regularly takes the orders here is very sweet and friendly however, avoid the aloe vera topping...I got it today and it was really unpleasant :( it's mushy and substanceless and melts in your mouth rather strangely...

  • Doris C.

I can't say too much about their bubble teas because I always go for their $3.50 for jasmine, regular, or Thai tea. This is the best price ever since I'm basically getting two teas for the price of one if you compare it to other places. However, I have to say that the teas here are really sweet so for those who don't like too much sugar, it might not be the best option. You can tell them to have no ice but I have never asked about changing the sweetness because I love sweet drinks. I have also tried their rose milk tea but I don't recommend it. There was only a hint of rose flavor and the drink was light pink. It looked like they added milk or cream to it and it had a weird sour taste to it.

My favorite place to go for bubble tea in all of East Bay! Great selection and excellent customer service. And as most of the other reviewers above and below have suggested, Elaine is a pro at her job. Thanks for all of the great drinks over the years!

They just changed their name to Tea Press, but it's the same cafe. Their bento box combos are amazing, especially when you don't have a lot of time and yet are craving food that tastes like home!

As the closest milktea shop to campus, this place gets its fair share of business during the day. And the business for boba is booming - gone are the cute hand drawn anime pictures and sketchy ice cream tubs. Moccacino, or now known as Tea Express, proudly displays their products on flat screen TVs and has blocked off much of the behind the counter view with an imposing granite slab. It doesn't quite have the same charm as the old interior, but at least they kept the little date-tables (perfect for two) and the "cute Asian cashier girl" (I'm going to refer to her as CACG for the rest of the review, and yes, that's what she's referred to by those of us who don't actually know her name). On the plus side, they do take card now on orders over $2.75. Their booming business is also reflected in their price increase. You'll have to fork up an extra $0.50 for your 2 milktea drink deal, which equals a quarter less for each of you for laundry money. Their drinks are still good, if on the sweeter side, and the boba is just the right amount of chewiness for me. They're super quick with their drinks, and customer service is awesome! CACG (see above) will deliver your drink right to your table if you're seated and offers useful suggestions for first timers. She'll throw in some flirtation free of charge too. And something that super impressed me today was the fact that CACG noticed my friend's lactase pill as he was taking it out after she rang us up and asked if we wanted to get soy milktea instead. No extra charge. Um, yes please!

I usually get Thai tea or thai coffee here -- but today I got the watermelon juice with rainbow jelly and it was very refreshing! Not too sweet or flavorless (:

Tea press is a lovely little boba shop with great quality tea and fantastic service. I grew up drinking a good amount of boba milk tea and this small shop has come to be one of my favorites. I am fond of strong tea flavor and very light sweetness for my bubble tea and this place just does every drink right for my tastes. I have tried about all of their milk tea options (black, jasmine, roasted olong, thai, etc.) and every drink has been quite good and definitely worth ordering. For their fruit teas I favor the jasmine tea with any of their fruit flavors, but the black tea is still a solid choice. Their snacks and bento are also pretty good and very affordable. I often get the soy sauce chicken when I am craving home-cantonese food and have not been dissapointed with any of their bentos (even though they can be a bit rice-heavy). This place is not as grand or gourmet as places like Asha's Teahouse, but it's homey, family-owned feel is really one of the factors that keep me coming back. You can tell it is a family operated business and that everyone really puts a lot of care into what they do. Elaine(the main cashier/drink maker) is extremely sweet and welcoming, not to mention also really effcient with her job. Out of all the boba places in Berkeley, Tea Press is the one that has won my heart. I highly recommend giving this shop a try!

One of my favorite spots in Berkeley. Fun drinks (enjoying the oolong milk tea currently); delicious, cheap Taiwanese bento meals (those tea eggs are something special); and excellent, friendly service. There's some seating inside and more in the little walkway right next to the place, so it's a nice place to study or hang out for a bit too.

While I was attending Cal, this place used to be called Double Rainbow Cafe. And as such, it was utterly impossible for me to take it seriously as an establishment, despite the fact that I'm 100% sure it's name pre-dated the viral internet video the name now brings to the forefront of my mind. It made no matter, I couldn't get over the hump. However, during my most recent return to the Bay Area, I was pulled in by their promotion offering 2 milk teas, with boba, for a measly $3.50. What a deal! I picked me up 2 and was on my way. It's fairly impossible to be disappointed by something that only costs a hair more than a McDonald's fountain drink, so I drank them both and then promptly sought out a rest room. They weren't bad, but they weren't great. There are much better options for milk tea in the area, and if any of them are open, and if you and your friend aren't total cheapskates, then I would advise you to patronize one of them instead. But if it's the end of the semester, and your financial aid is all but spent, your laundry all but packed for the long drive home, and the last of your top ramen is still freshly sitting in your belly, then this is the perfect place to drop by in the hope of putting a cherry on your cheap-sundae.

I am stuck between giving this place a 3 or 4 stars. If I could, I would really put it to 3.5. The service of this place is really nice, the girl at the cashier, really knows her stuff and she seems to know the regular customers which is always a plus! But the main downfall of the 3 stars is because of the food. Before I tried this place, for the first time, I looked through the Yelp's reviews and pictures and I really liked it! After I ordered and got my food, I left to go back to school and eat there. Only to find that the food isn't as greatly as it seemed in the pictures or a lot. I wasn't given enough food compared to all of the pictures that were posted about this place.. maybe because they were really busy when I went? But still doesn't give the excuse of not putting much food at all.. that was really disappointing to me. Overall, I would try this place again, probably at a later time than when I went, and hopefully it'll be better.

Boba. Come on, 2 for $3. And it tasted all brown sugary? HELL YES. There's an impressive selection of drinks ranging from the passionfruit slushy (personal favorite, not in the $3 deal) to the $3 deal Jasmine Green Milk tea. Hot or cold, doesn't matter. I'm really into this joint, mostly because it served me well on my way to and from class and work. I could also impress people by bringing them boba from time to time. And all those times I didn't have cashmoneyyoungmoney? No worries; most friends got you covered with a $3 boba in which they get one too. All in all, I'd be back. A hundred times over. But I would also direct you to Asha Tea House for the super quality stuff.

I love this place! I hope this place stays in business until I become a grandma so I can visit Berkeley and eat here and reminisce the good old days lol. Something about this place is just really cute. I always get good customer service here. Always the same girl behind the counters, I think this is run by a family. Food here is cheap and they give you a lot AND it tastes good! I think it's Taiwanese style bento. Try chicken teriyaki! It's my favorite, also love all the sides that come with it: eggs, cabbage, and tofu. Oh and don't forget bubble tea. You can eat and drink here and get little snacks. Perfect place for hungry students!

  • David D.

The 2 for $3 meal makes for an easy choice when I need to grab some boba! The woman who works there is super nice, and finishes the orders up quickly! The boba here is sweet, and tea isn't too bad tasting either. Good texture, for those of you who need your boba tender (or "qq" for my taiwanese friends!) but not too hard from being too cold. This place is a winner!

The first time I had milk tea was in Chinatown in SF and I didn't like it but I decided to give it another chance. Moccacino had the best reviews so I gave it a try. Within the last week I've been here 4 times; each time getting a different drink. I've had the regular milk tea, rose milk tea, almond milk tea and jasmine milk tea, all with tapioca. The regular had a slight coffee taste to me. I had to get use to the rose flavor but it went really well with the tapioca. The almond was sweet and tasty. But my favorite was the jasmine because it had a great flavor that was not overpowering and it was perfectly sweetened. I didn't give it 5 stars b/c I don't have anything to compare it to and I haven't tried any other cafes but it will definitely be my go to place for milk tea.

  • Jennifer H.

Love this place! Great boba (and so many varieties), and the bento deal can't be beat. I only stop by here at night, so I've never had to deal with lines. That said, it does take a while even then for my bento to appear, but it's not something to flip out over. I'd rather wait a little and have my little container of Asian comfort food! Remember that it's cash only.

  • A L.

It's ok. I ordered an almond milk tea for $3, took one sip and blech! Tasted like powder. I could actually feel the powdery grainy-ness in my mouth. I told the nice girl behind the counter that I wasn't so into the drink and she offered me another. Actually, what she said was, "Umm ... what would you like, because they're all made from powder." Well, I figured as much, but asked for the watermelon juice, which, as far as I could tell, was made from blended, frozen watermelon cubes and was delicious. I would definitely go back for that, but would never order a milk tea again. Also, I didn't get my $1 back (watermelon juice was $2), because they don't do returns. I wouldn't exactly call that a return but what are you gonna do. The girl was nice about it though.

So, that sign really said 2 boba drinks for $3? Just checkin'. Granted, the only flavors you can get for that offer are milk tea, jasmine tea, and Thai tea it's still a pretty damn good deal. Especially since I'm used to buying my drinks at Tapioca Express in Vallejo for $3.50+. Highway robbery, I know. But c'mon, I live in Vallejo. My friend and I ended up buying two Milk Teas and we split the price. The drink was good, but they definitely skimped on the boba, which I might add, was a bit too soft for my liking. But hey, the price was good and the drink wasn't terrible. So heyyyyy they still win.

their 2/$3 deals are pretty darn good sometimes the milk tea tastes really watery though i wish this place was open later at night :[ one time i got a strawberry snowbubble, hoping to be filled with memories from the past when boba had first come out and snowbubbles were like the "it" thing it was just crushed ice and strawberry syrup. so i dont recommend getting a snowbubble from there unless its like those oreo ones, etc..

Oh how I miss thee! Their drink special got me every time! Why buy an Arizona tea when you can get a fresh Jasmine Milk Tea with pearls?! Their 2 drinks for $3 was awesome and you can mix/match the black, jasmine or thai milk teas. The owners are very nice and the drinks taste great! I also remember asking them what type of milk they use and they said it was lactose-free so for those that are lactose intolerant, it's not excuse to not try this place :) The only downside is that their pearls are sometimes inconsistent but when they're fresh, they are heaven! :)

This place didn't exist when I was at Cal. I think there was something else here. Glad my friend included me in her boba cravings, though... the two for one deal is pretty awesome, I must say! I am not a major fan of boba anymore (I used to be but for some reason the charm wore off) but I do enjoy a nice plain milk tea on occasion. They can definitely deliver this - I've had it 2 times in a month and both times it was pretty good.

They have this thing called salt & pepper chicken, which is like Chicken McNuggets on crack - They're served in a little paper baggie so you can grab & chomp. It's just chicken piece in Tempura batter, and not the best batter at that, but there are these leaves, and you just grab one after another like a kitty at the sushi bar...meow!

I have never tasted anything so bad. Try having some of their Strawberry Milk Tea, then throwing it back up. It's the worst possible aftertaste ever. I had to do it multiple times after having their food. I got a nasty case of the stomach flu from this place that landed me in the ER less than 24 hours later with an IV stuck up my arm. Unless you are a fan of vomiting and diarrhea I would not go to this place. Yes I am positive it was from this place and no, it was not a coincidence. Buyer beware

Friendly staff and amazing selection. While I'm determined to try every flavor, I keep returning to my old favorites: kiwi, grapefruit, and rose green tea. On colder days, or if you're up for the adventure, try ordering your tea and tapioca pearls hot.

LOVE THIS PLACE!! I'm a huge fan of boba/pearl drinks and this is the perfect place to go to on your way to Haas, Ihouse, Wurster, etc. They offer $3 for 2 bobas (Thai, Jasmine, Regular), cheap price, good service, comes out quick, and is good quality. Great service~ I definitely recommend over Sweethearts, provides more "sitting space" for their customers so if you want to talk to your friend over boba (or the other food items they provide) this is a great place that I recommend.

The black milk tea is ok....made from a typical powdery mix. The 2 for $3 deal is great, but 1 costs $2.50.

I've had their tapioca milk teas before and they are delish, but I would like to share today's experience with them today. I ordered a tapioca milk tea and a tapioca green milk tea and put them in a tote bag with two books. After selling my books at the student bookstore and doing a little shopping at Urban Otfitter's, I looked in my bag and saw a MILK TEA FLOOD. Despite the fact that they were both unopened, the cup with the milk tea was defective because it started to leak. I decided to take it back to Moccacino's to see if they could replace it for me, as I never even opened it. I went back and the girl (the brother and sister works the front while the mother makes bento boxes in the back) was more than happy to replace my milk tea and apologized repeatedly. She offered to wash the unbroken green milk tea cup and put them in a bag this time. She gave me a wet nap to wash my sticky Milk Tea covered hands. I recommend this place for their yummy drinks, but I COMMEND them on their excellent, stress-free customer service. Final Verdict: Their drinks kick ass, I've been here before, keep your eyes peeled for this little store. I considered their milk tea to be perfection with ice, who knew that the owners were so friendly and nice?

3.5 stars: breakdown below 5: The jasmine green tea (without milk) was great- not too sweet, yet not too bitter. 3 stars: the pearls were so small! I'm used to sweetheart where the pearls are fat and chewy. If you're a boba place, you should get these right. 4 stars: unlike a lot of other boba places, you can actually sit down here and chat for a while. not the coziest of atmospheres, but everybody is nice, and the place is clean. So overall, 3.5 stars.

I was introduced to this cute little cafe by a friend this semester and so far I haven't been disappointed. Granted I've only tried two different drinks and their popcorn chicken but they were all very yummy. I also have to agree with most of the reviews about the customer service. The girls behind the counter are always sort of chipper and greet you with a smile on their face--something not to be taken for granted as the opposite can surely turn customers away. Next time, I'll be a good little 'bobian' and order one of the milk teas.

I've witnessed friends experience verrryyy slooooow service once (waiting over half an hour for two bento boxes), but I'm pretty sure it's because they had some fill-in employees there. Seems like a kinda family-run business. The location is very convenient for those on campus. If you want to buy just one milk tea drink, and sans boba at that, I'd refer to you stuff on Durant (Quickly and Sweetheart's have better deals under $2). However, if you are a pair, both with a craving for milk tea, the 2 for $3 deal is pretty sweet, especially if both of you get boba (this deal is restricted to milk/jasmine/thai flavors only). I like how the people are friendly (not listless, impatient, or bored-looking, the sort of service I'm used to at Sweetheart's). I never get a drink that tastes overtly like powder (which I've gotten at Quickly's). The line can get long, and the shop can get crowded, but there's typically space on the covered patio for people to sit. It pains me, but cash-only.

Today was my second time there (I don't go to berkeley that often)...I had the Jasmine Tapioca Milk Tea with the salt/pepper chicken lunch box the first time and today I only got the Ovaltine Milk Tea....(I liked the Jasmine one better). I'll go back there again the next time I'm in the East Bay...or unless I find a better Tapioca place :P

it's gone down in two stars because i came back. and the boba was the same price. the boba, however, was chewy and kindof gross. and the staff was snooty and impatient. i don't know if i will come back anymore.

When I first came here, it was because a new friend introduced me to this place. The first time, I ordered a Passion Fruit Honey Green Tea. The second time I ordered the same thing. The third time, the super-cute, super-speedy girl who usually runs the counter remembered my order. :) I've had a few other types of drinks here, from Strawberry Milk Tea to Honeydew to Thai Iced Tea, and each one has been pleasant and sweet. The food is decent too--the popcorn chicken makes for a great and filling snack and the tea eggs are a quick burst of energy--and it is actually possible to study here with my laptop. The prices are fine, too. Combined with the service, I think I've found my main tea place for my time at Cal.

Love the bento boxes. Perfect portions of rice, meat, veggies, and an egg for brainpower! Exactly what a student needs for lunch. As for boba, I keep it safe and stick with basic flavors and they're decent. This place is much cleaner than any of the other tapioca places around Berkeley :)

  • Alysen D.

They have the best Jasmine Green Milk Tea here, depending on who makes the drink. Their 2 for 1 deal is great, since I don't see many places giving such a deal for Thai Milk Tea. Sooooo good. The food that they serve is decent too. I love their stamp card, since I go there so often. The new workers may mess up once a while, but whatever. Anything that they make is good... except for the plum green tea.

best boba place EVER! srsly the best in berkeley. quicklys and sweethearts cannot compare with their lukewarm drinks. the boba at moccacino is always perfect, chewy and sweet. the drinks are always perfectly chilled. BEST thai tea in berkeley. the warm green milk tea is delicious too. and it comes with boba, free of charge! i also love their bento boxes. the minced pork one is delicious! comes with rice, veggies, ma pa tofu, and a tea egg. :)

  • terra d.

theyve had the 2-for-$3 deal on jasmine milk tea with boba forever. and i love them for it. elaine, the "barista" is always super nice and works so hard :) they also have rainbow ice cream (pumpkin, too!) and an assortment of candies (like those chocolate pandas).

  • Mitsuko H.

Nice, cheap combos (aka. bento boxes). I haven't tried their boba, yet, but their food is fine for the price and pretty generously-portioned. Fine flavors, nothing to complain about. NOT the place to go for quality Chinese/Taiwanese food, but for the average poor starving student, it ain't bad at all.

  • K M.

Two stars for the 2.50 for two Thai Milk Teas deal but anything else is kind of bad. I had a Red Bean Milk Tea and it was so chalky and disgusting. It tasted like some odd Mexican chocolate drink. Plus it cost a $3.40 for a little bit of boba! I will not come back.

Way better than Quickly and about the same price if you buy two.

  • Stella O.

New ownership has taken over the bubble tea business at this location. Still exploring their clientele and profit margins, the food and goods purchasable here varies daily, from strawberry cheesecake to gummy candy to hot dogs. Their main specialty, bubble tea, is the one constant. Bring a friend to take advantage of their 2 for one deal on black/green/thai milk tapioca tea for $2.50 (definitely a good deal!). Also for tea regulars (ie adicts), pick up one of their business cards--on the back you will find a buy-10 tea get 1 free deal. Pretty good, since the freebie is for any drink any size!

  • Victor L.

Got the 2 for $3 PMT today. I liked it a lot more than Sweetheart or Quickly's on the other side of the block, it actually tasted like milk tea rather than the sugary brown concoction made with coffeemate over there. For all I know they could be doing the same here, but they had me fooled.

    (3)

Definitely the best Bubble Tea in Berkeley. Hot Almond Milk Tea.

  • Ken T.

Great place! I am a huge fan of their Taiwanese-Style bento boxes. For what you pay, you get a lot of food and it tastes fantastic too! My favorite is the salt and pepper chicken but all the other bento boxes are pretty good too. The service is pretty good for a milk-tea place. You go in and your order is taken fairly quickly and the speed of your order just depends on how busy they are. If you don't want to wait, you can always call in your order too!

    (5)
  • Christina H.

Milk tea quality isn't that good, but the price is: $3.50 for 2! No charge for making it hot or cold! And the service is super fast. The pearls are smaller than the normal, but pretty chewy and flavorful :) The girl who works there (i think its a family business?) is super friendly and patient. I don't think she's ever gotten my order mixed up.

  • Esther S.

Bento boxes for cheap dinners and home style Asian food and boba to boot? I'm happy. They take some time to make but that's okay. There are tables to sit at in the meanwhile and lots of things posted on the wall/bulletin to look at.... This is my favorite place for boba because you can get it hot or cold for the same price! Other places seem to charge more for hot........ The boba is consistent every time I have been and Elaine is great! :). Reliable, close to campus, good for food and a nice place to chat with a friend over tea. Solid!

they don't press the tea but they got this machine that goes chugga chugga chugga chugga and it's fun to watch lol it jus shakes up and down and the little black ball things swim and it's cool chugga chugga chugga chugga

I haven't posted on Yelp a while, but TeaPress is so deserving of a good review. TeaPress (formerly Moccacino and Double Rainbow Cafe) is a family owned boba place and the family is as sweet as they come. They recently renovated last year and the place is even cuter now. My favorite drink is the strawberry milk tea with mini boba. It's the only place near campus where this drink doesn't taste weird or artificial. I've also tried the soy sauce chicken bento box and it was aight. Their popcorn chicken is pretty good too. Sign up for the FiveStars rewards card and you'll get a free drink when you buy 10 drinks (not counting the 2 for $3.50 drinks, I believe)!

    (5)
  • John D.

They've recently renovated (flat screen monitors replacing the old menu boards and new counter tops). Everything else is still the same. This is my preferred boba place south of the UC campus. Their bentos are also a great deal and filling. (Sometimes they give you broccoli and sometimes they don't...)

    (4)
  • Lizard W.

Check out the $3.50 two for deal! This is a nice clean place. They serve food too. But we only came for boba. Enjoy.

    (5)
  • Anna Z.

I've heard they've recently rebranded themselves as Tea Press - from what I've seen, they've stayed with what they're good at and only made things better. Their rebranding comes with a shiny new interior, new digitalized menus, a new digitized stamp card system (they're using Five Stars now!) and best of all - they now take credit card on purchases over 2.75! Their drinks are pretty consistent, but on the sweet side. They've kept their 2 for $3 deal but have only expanded their already-extensive menu - their new roasted oolong milk tea is really good! Their tapioca is generally good and I've never encountered boba that tastes like it's been sitting out for ages. They also have lots of little packaged Asian snacks and candies available. This 5-star review is really for the girl that works there though - anyone who has been here knows who I'm talking about. Elaine is so friendly and polite and remembers my order even after a three month hiatus. Even when there's a line, she's super speedy with getting drinks out and never serves anything without a smile!

If there is such a thing as quality * taste / price ratio, this place blows other places out the water. Hope the food sits well in my stomach.

[THE SPECIAL] Good place if you want cheap, convenient milk tea with a friend, so you can get the 2 for $3 special. [THE DRINKS] Milk tea is sugary and is suspiciously similar to the powdered ones from Quickly's. Boba peals taste strangely standard, as if it were from some frozen mass-produced stock. Taro milk tea is good though! It's creamy and almost smoothie-like. [THE FOOD] Bento boxes taste pre-made and take FOREVER. Like Thai Basil status... where you think it's fast food, and it's slower than restaurant food. [THE SETTING] Seating is nonexistent, except for some run-down plastic tables outside. [THE VERDICT] I used to think Moccacino was acceptable, but after Asha opened, all other milk tea is now phony.

Seriously. The BEST bubble milk tea I've ever had. I do my best to grab a drink before class.,. it's that addicting. And Elaine is the coolest! Thanks tea press for being the highlight of my day

If you are in the mood for something besides coffee, this is the closest boba joint on the southside of Berkeley's campus. Lots of drink options and there are some food items too. Price is decent. You can get two boba drinks for $3.50. But you are limited to only thai, jasmine and regular milk tea. The rest of the milk teas, fruit teas, smoothies and ices are about $3. I got the honey milk black tea and it tasted watered down. It wasn't too sweet, which I liked but it didn't taste much like tea and the flavor was very light. Not sure whether it was just an off night or the drinks are regularly like this. According to other yelp reviews, quite a few of the drinks usually taste watered down. =/ I'd come back at least one more time to try another flavor. But if the drinks taste watered down regularly, count me out.

Their Strawberry Milk Tea and Thai Milk Tea are close to perfection. I used to come here religiously since my freshman year back in 2006 to get my daily dose of sugar. I recently came back... and the place hasn't changed a bit. Even the worker their is still the same! Most of the drinks at Moccacino have that old-school taste that we all know and love. The new-and-exotic-flavor enthusiasts may find their drink menu rather boring and bland, but I find their taste reliable and satisfying. It's like your mom's cooking; you never know how good it was until you stop having them. I don't know how good these new boba joints like Purple Kow and stuff really taste, but Moccacino has and always will be the best boba place in berkeley to me.

  • Genny C.

Though not my favorite place for I really like the bento boxes they have here when I crave for Taiwanese food (plus it's cheap!). I'm not sure what it is called in English, but the minced beef ride with tea egg is super filling and always reminds me of home. Their lemon honey hot tea was my medication when I caught a cold, and their two boba for $3.5 is a steal (lah out limited to three flavors)! The place is recently renovated and has a modern feel to it. The Cantonese girl at the counter is really nice and always feels welcoming. Will miss this place when I graduate.

  • Sunny H.

I can't rave about this place enough! Their bento boxes are a hidden gem that I'm surprised a lot of students still don't know about. I always get the salt and pepper chicken bento box with jasmine green milk tea. Their jasmine milk tea is my favorite in Berkeley - not too sweet and just the right amount of milk. Even better, their bento boxes include a large portion of food (includes your choice of meat, rice, tea egg, ma po tofu, and vegetables) for only $5.85. If you order boba along with it, the total only comes to $6.95 including tax! I love that the food has a homemade touch to it. The vegetables and tofu provide a healthier alternative to many other restaurants in the area. If you want to make the meal even healthier, you can also opt for a different meat such as ground pork. The only reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the service speed. With their extensive menu options, they should definitely have more than 3 people running the whole restaurant. I've learned to combat this by calling ahead to place my order, but otherwise I would have to wait much longer for the bento box to be ready. Overall, one of my go-to places for lunch or dinner. Definitely try their bento boxes if you haven't already!

This is my favorite place to get boba tea in Berkeley! The girl who works here is very nice and has remembered what I order every time I come here. I love their special which is $3.50 for two teas (either jasmine, thai tea, milk tea, or Vietnamese coffee) which includes boba. The boba is always really yummy.

  • Kaitlynn L.

Delicious, affordable bento boxes. The people here are very polite and friendly! 4 stars because there is always a long (15-20min at least) to get a bento box. Nonetheless, the bento boxes are awesome. I always get the popcorn chicken bento box! It comes with tofu, popcorn chicken, rice and vegetables. Tea Press is also at a convenient location, on Bancroft by Sproul and Barrows.

The tea is slightly better than Sweetheart and worse than Sharetea. Nothing really distinguishable about this place at all.

It's the best boba around. The tea is not overly sweetened. The boba are nice and chewy. Service is always speedy and nice.

  • Tiffany D.

Their prices on the milk tea drinks are a bit lower than the usual at other boba shops. I got their Rose Milk Tea with boba for $3.25 and their Rose Tea flavor was unique - it wasn't great nor was it bad. Their boba is alright. They have other snacks and meals at this place, but it's such a small cafe. They shouldn't be called a cafe if they don't have Wi-Fi - especially when it is located near Berkeley college campus. I was passing by and thought to hop in. Other than that, I think I'll pass this boba place and go to others in this area.

I came here for the first time today after hearing awesome things about their bento boxes. I ended up ordering one with popcorn chicken that came with steamed rice, and egg, and veggies, and it was really good, up until the point where I found a hair in the veggies. Super disappointed and will probably never come back.

I would not call Moccacino the boba place of the century, but it's extremely close to campus and is a satisfactory source for a quick boba fix. I appreciate the 2 for $3 (not $3.50?) deal, since so many other boba places really like to hike up the prices. Can't comment on the food since I've never tried it. They also sell a lot of Asian candies/snacks (at a higher price) if you are in desperate need of some.

    (3)
  • Anu P.

Good AND cheap boba--pretty perfect! Their two for $3.50 deal is cheap and a steal--great for a warm day in Berkeley on the way to campus! Their service is quick and they have a huge variety of food and milk tea flavors too if you want to experiment! I can't comment on the bento boxes which I've heard are pretty good as well or anything else, but I will definitely be coming back!

never going here again!!!! i ordered popcorn chicken and they only give about 10 pieces !!! wtf!!! the rice is mushy, tofu have no taste! horrible!! plus they raise the price!!! wish i can give them zero stars

  • Amy H.

The only reason I would go here is to get their cheap boba. When you have to buy boba for a group, this is the cheapest you can get it if you want the pearls in there too. You get two drinks for $3 and the boba is pretty good. It is better than Quicklys but never as god as Sweathearts. **TIPS** 1) Two drinks for $3.

Moccacino is so conveniently located, right across the street from campus on Bancroft. I've never gotten anything besides their boba deal, but I'm never disappointed by it! The price for it has gone up 50 cents since last year, but a 2 for $3.50 deal is still hard to beat. The milk tea, jasmine milk tea and Thai tea are all really yummy, I'd recommend trying them all. Also, Elaine is super sweet and helpful and always has a smile on her face - definitely the nicest server of boba we have around campus. She has also been deemed as some of my guy friends as "one of the cutest girls in Berkeley," it's no wonder they keep going back here... In terms of other options, Moccacino has a ton of different kinds of drinks. I feel like I should try them, but the boba deal is always too tempting and worth it...They also serve ice cream and food here for decent prices. Looking forward to coming here one day to try the bento boxes, which seem like a good amount of food and variety of food for around $6. Cash-only!

Oh man. This place. Is great. Hands down. Two words. Per sentence. Moccaccino cafe. The young lady who works here is so cute (in a non lez way). She's really sweet and quick and attentive and always seems to be working here. I actually tipped her after my friend did, and I never tip at fast food joints like this. First off, gotta review my most recent expenditure: strawberry milk tea with vanilla pudding. I noticed the last option for add-ins (because I don't like boba) was "vanilla pudding." After inquiring about it, I decided (hesitantly) to try this firm flan-like thing in my drink. The drinks (my friend ordered a peppermint milk tea) came out fast after an intriguing shaking in this dual metal boba shaker thing. Let me say, strawberry milk tea: soooo good! It even had occasional strawberry seeds in it, which excited me cuz I knew real food not just syrup went in this drink. And it wasn't sickeningly sweet like the cantaloupe snow ice I got at Tapioca express. It was perfect. Then, getting to that pudding! Surprisingly really really good and melded with the strawberry milk tea really well! Tasty even after you've finished all the liquid portion of your tea and only have the pudding left. If you're adventurous and like tasty thins, definitely try the strawberry milk tea/vanilla pudding combo out. Price 5 stars, service 5 stars, interior layout 4 stars (cramped), food 5 stars (based on 1 time eating a bento, will be in a following review)

Fair pricing, but a bit upset they changed the 2 for $3 deal to $3.50... Service is fairly quick depending on when you come. There might be long lines, but this is a rarity. The cashier/owner is quite friendly. People say she remembers their name, but as someone who comes here often, I don't think she has recognized me yet.. lol. It is RARE to see someone washes their hands after dealing with money then making your drinks/food. Impress with their standard and the facility looks overall clean. Judging solely on their 2 for $3.5 deal. Ranking by taste: Jasmine, Thai, normal Milk tea. Jasmine is my go-to, but a bit disappointed they overly cream their drinks with dry milk powder... Would recommend for your quick boba craving and run near campus.

Wow. I've been a customer of Moccacino's for 5 years now, and it's still 2 for $3 for your choice of MILK TEA, THAI TEA, OR JASMINE GREEN TEA, hot or cold, pearls included. $2.25 for a large milk tea with pearls, $2.75 for a peach green tea with lychee jelly (my friend's order all day erry day). Don't forget to have your rewards card stamped! Cash only!

  • Lisa N.

Moccacino is your standard, go-to boba spot. It won't wow you in any way, but it's always reliable. I absolutely LOVE the 2 for $3.50 deal. Jasmine milk tea is my favorite milk tea to order anywhere, so I appreciate that it's approved for the deal! I wish you could swap out boba for coffee jelly for free, but any replacements are $.50 extra. It's pretty tasty, but not the best. Every time I go, there's not enough ice so it doesn't stay cold for long. I appreciate that there's more milk tea that way, but it starts to get lukewarm when I'm about halfway done :( You could probably find better boba at Asha Tea House, but you can't beat the deal or the proximity to campus.

    (3)
  • Jash P.

Boba run?! This is my place. You get cheap boba--especially if you choose one of their specials with the 2 for $3.50 deal. Compared to boba places back home, that's still cheap! However, without the deal, they charged me $3 for a hot Taro milk tea boba. Shoul've just copped another 50 cents to get two drinks! The boba were nice and chewy. I've never tried their bento box, but they do look good! According to friends, they're a must try! Maybe next time. Service is quick, and Moccacino Cafe offers cheap boba. Do note their hours. Sometimes it's hit or miss, especially if you want that late night boba run.

So recently I've developed an obsession with boba (or bubble tea as we Canadians call it). This is hands down my favorite boba place in the Berkeley area. Their boba special is the best deal you can find. You can get 2 for $3.50 and this includes the tapioca pearls! The options are Jasmine milk tea, Thai iced tea, Thai iced coffee and regular milk tea. My favorite is definitely the Jasmine milk tea since it's not overly sweet like the other flavors. I haven't tried their food yet which, to be honest, doesn't look too appetizing (although I'm curious if their tea egg is any good) but if you are craving some delicious boba, definitely check this place out!

  • Amy T.

Although I do not think Moccacino is the best place for boba in Berkeley, it is the place I find myself going back to the most. You cant beat 2 for $3.50 for a cup of yummy bubble milk tea (Do be warned the deal is only for regular, jasmine and Thai tea). The quality of both the tea and pearls are up to par with the the places that charge you $3.00 per cup. The people who work there are very accommodating about special request such as "less sugar" and "soy milk" and the service is reasonably fast. The location is pretty small so don't go there planning to find seating. Highly recommended for both the casual Berkeley visitor or a longer time resident!

  • Ashley N.

Popular because it's so cheap, but in my opinion, you get what you pay for. I've been here twice just to confirm that their drinks are really poor quality, and not just a case of inconsistency. The first time I got their thai tea, and it was so watery I couldn't finish it. Their boba was terrible too! The second time, I tried it again, hoping that it was going to be better. Instead, I spent the evening throwing it up; not fun. So now, instead of thinking 'deal' when I see Moccacino, I think of 'bad boba' instead.

Elaine makes the meanest Almond boba in all of Berkeley. There are lots of boba places, but this surely the best. I admire people who can make cold boba ACTUALLY COLD, and Elaine, unlike many boba baristas, does not extract such frost from her heart. No, from this kind young woman, there are only smiles, I am sure she lives in the actual cafe. I'm serious. She's always there. She is the patron saint of Boba. Bless her holy soul. Remember, cash-only.

When in Berkeley, I'm bound to get boba at some point during the day. There's only 2 major spots I hit up for boba in Berkeley. Moccacino is one of them, primarily for a Thai iced tea or when me and a friend want to split the 2 for $3.50 boba special! They also sell a variety of other things, but I'm mainly here for a boba fix. I frequent this place so much that the girl, who I assume is Elaine, already knows the drill when I come through: Thai iced tea, no boba. I'm surprised that she's not working at Sweetheart because she's a total sweetheart! You seriously need to see her in action. She's swifter than Taylor Swift. I'm always amazed at how fast she prepares orders and still manages to deliver with the utmost quality! If you read this, Elaine, then this one's for you, girl! Your search for the best Thai iced tea in Berkeley ends here. I've experimented with them at other places around Berkeley and Moccacino takes the win. The milk-to-tea ratio is almost always on point, they don't use powders, and it's well worth it for $2. The milk gives it the creamy taste, but the tea makes a comeback and gives it that edge! More of a side note, but I also like how they don't mix the milk and tea because I like to mix it and watch the two fuse together. I've yet to have better in Berkeley and I doubt I will. Please do yourself a favor and get your Thai iced tea from here from now on. Trust me, I know my boba. I'm about this life. This probably isn't much of a big deal, but I hate how their plastic coverings on the cups are tougher than a condom. This ain't no Tootsie pop where I have to count how many times it takes for me to get the straw through!

901239320942309420 hands down for the best boba and Taiwanese bento boxes in Berkeley. Great value too for college students like me. I graduated recently.. and have moved back to socal and I miss this place a lot! Their boba is really good, better than all the other crap boba places like quickly, sweethearts, kips, tapioca express, etc.. I honestly don't know why anyone would go get boba anywhere other than Moccacino cafe. Boba: I've had the 2 for $3 boba many times and it's the best tasting deal for boba! Sometimes I get the Almond milk tea with boba, which is also delicious, however it's like 3 bucks. I only get it on certain occasions. The boba they have is always fresh everytime I go. Its chewyness is like perfect. It's chewy yet has some really good texture. The milk tea also tastes great. It's not watered down like sweetheart's nor does it taste overly sweet like tapioca express's milk tea. In summary, Don't go to sweethearts or quickly. Just go to Moccacino. It's a better value and a better experience. The person that works at Moccacino is nice and she doesn't look pissed off all the time unlike the workers at sweethearts and quickly.

Moccacino Cafe is popular among students because of its really cheap deal: 2 boba drinks for the price of $3. Whenever I want boba quickly, I just go here because I can get 2 for the price of 1. However, if I were to judge based on the quality of boba and flavor, the drinks are not good at all. The Thai iced tea is always not as flavorful and the milk tastes a little weird, but they both taste normal enough. I was even more annoyed because this business did not have its 2 for $3 deal on Cal Day because the cafe knew more outsiders (non-Berkeley students) would be in the area.

This is my favorite boba place in Berkeley! I recommend their jasmine milk tea, popcorn chicken, and their Japanese milk tea icy (my favorite boba treat). Elaine is always really sweet and has an endless amount of energy and smiles! There are also a few tables inside and seating outside in the patio type area. A few tables is, in fact, a generous amount of seating at a boba shop! I've always been able to snag a table if I wanted to sit and chat with a friend.

I love Moccacino! The cashiers are always extremely friendly, I thought the bento boxes were good (I liked the soy sauce chicken), and the boba deal (2 for $3.50) is awesome.

I love coming to Moccacino for their 2 for $3 deal. They let you pick between bubble milk tea, thai ice tea, and jasmine milk tea, but what makes it awesome is that you can also choose between hot and cold. At Quickly's, hot pearl milk tea is about $3, so this is a real deal. I feel like all 3 flavors are pretty good. It's not really authentic milk tea, but instead just super sweet. The pearls are good too; my only complaint is that they don't always fill the cup up completely. I've also tried their hot barley milk tea, which I found to be really gross. Just a warning.

2 for $3 boba what more can you ask for :3 They have cutest and nicest worker there all the time that will remember what you get if you go there regularly like me. My all time favorite boba in Berkeley now has to be their Thai ice tea. It's literally super addicting as well as really cheap for the price. To top it off it's always really fast service and I never have to wait long at all :D

This is my favorite place to get milk tea. $3 for 2? That's a deal you can't beat at any other place in Berkeley. The tapioca that I get in my milk tea definitely tastes better than what I've had at either Sweethearts or Quickly's. At those places, it tastes like either they're reusing a batch of tapioca from yesterday or they undercook it pretty badly -- not good. I haven't tried any of the bento boxes here but they're priced fairly cheaply and you can combo it with a milk tea for just a dollar more. Being Taiwanese style bento's, you really get a sense of home cooking from eating them. Service is pretty quick for one small girl working behind the counter so during a break between classes, Moccacino is a good option for a quick milk tea.

I dunno about you but this place is the bomb! :) WAY BETTER THEN QUICKLY and other boba places! I love their bento boxes it's delicious. Their boba is amazing the tapioca are always fresh, chewy and it's just that good. Give it a try it's amazing. This place NEVER disappoints me. NEVER! :D

  • Michelle L.

The only redeeming factor about this place is the 2 for $3 deal. Being a student means that such an awesome deal is EXTREMELY hard to pass up on. My friends and I came here for boba just because it was so close to campus and so cheap. But once again, Cheap does not necessarily mean it's Good. I usually just stuck with their regular milk tea. I mean it's okay but it is seriously watered down and there is this weird powdered texture that I really hate. And I found their other drinks to be too sweet. It's mediocre boba, super close to campus. That's it. 2/5

Really like their bento boxes and their milk tea deal! My go-to lunch and dinner spot when I need meat, rice, veggies all in one meal. I can finish this meal in one sitting but I do eat a lot. Definitely a good portion for the money you pay. Their two milk tea for $3 deal got increased to $3.50, but still a pretty decent deal! Perfect for sharing with friends or saving an order of milk tea for yourself later. They have various meats and flavors (teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, salt and pepper chicken, curry beef, beef stew, curry beef stew, ground pork...) or veggies as their entree for the bento box. Also comes with rice, a tea egg, veggies, and mapo tofu on the side. For the ground pork bento, I would have wanted more sauce on the rice, but it was still really good :)

  • Olga M.

They have pretty darn good pearl milk tea. And what can beat their fast service and the aweome 2 for $3 deal? I'm pretty sure they are the cheapest boba around.

BBBB - best bubble tea for your buck in Berkeley (though cash-only, unfortunately). They will do non-fat milk without batting an eye, can cut down on the sugar, and have a pretty good selection of non-milk teas, which is a plus as I'm not into drinking my entire day's calories. The service is sweet and it's usually not crowded, plus there's a bit of outdoor seating in the back. As far as the food, I've only tried the takoyaki, which was pretty decent (again, "healthy" as far as takoyaki goes; no mayo, light on the sauce, heavy on the katsuobushi). I definitely want to try a bento box here sometime - like everything else here, they seem like a pretty decent deal. Unfortunately - and this is kind of bizarre in Berkeley - I've never seen anyone else white in here , and I've gotten some uncomfortable stares from other customers. I usually take my tea elsewhere...

  • Lucy N.

The bento boxes left much to be desired. I had the ground pork bento and it was relatively unmemorable. They definitely did not skimp on the portions so I'd say it was decent for the price. It came with a side of tofu, which had a very runny sauce that I wasn't too fond of. I suggest you buy it if you are hungry to the point where you no longer have the energy to search elsewhere for food. My friend got the Chicken Curry bento and he said it was fine, but he is easily pleased so I'd deem his opinion to be very unreliable haha The taro & red bean boba was great though! I'm not a big fan of tapioca balls in general, but the drink itself left me satisfied!

  • Amy L.

The price for two Thai iced teas plus boba is very reasonable here at only 3.50. The drink was delicious and I really enjoyed it as today was warm and my friend and I were on a long walk with our dogs so it was refreshing to have such a yummy drink to have with us. I wasn't a big fan of the texture of the boba. It was a bit too hard. The service here was great Maybe I will try their food sometime. I am rating this place 3.5 to 4 stars.

  • Lynn L.

Moccacino! :) Bento boxes are pretty great here, but be prepared to sit in and wait for 10-15mins as they prepare it. Though, the wait is worth it though since the product is warm and toasty goodness. You get a little bit of protein, carbohydrates, and vegetables. Avocado shakes are DA BOMB here. You can actually see them use whole avocados so it's real fruit going into the shakes. That is definitely my favorite thing to get here as a nice pick-me-up during bad days. It's creamy and sweet :) 2nd - Honey Green Milk Tea - is pretty sweet and delicious here too. The boba's consistency is not as great as Sweetheart's though. (1 star off for that) And customer service is great! The cashier is a super cute girl with super awesome piercings that I am so envious of. She always notices mine too :D NOTE: Please ask for a stamp card!! You will definitely need it later. I always forget mine at home -___- I think I have like 3-4 unstamped sessions here at Moccacino because of my forgetfulness.

Despite a number of boba shops finally opening here at Berkeley, I'm still a big fan of this place simply because it's the cheapest and the 2 for $3.50 deal! I'm not particularly picky about my boba. If it's soft, then I have nothing to complain about... I like this place but I was pretty disappointed yesterday. I've always had a gut feeling to stray away from their takoyaki balls but I was craving some so badly and it was my last day before I start my diet so I was like "YOLO just get them"... I regretted it so much because for 4.25, you get 5 soggy pieces that are wrapped underneath seran wrap. Yup, they microwave them... So I learned my lesson to never order takoyaki but once, I finish my diet, I'll be back for some more boba!

  • Michelle L.

3.5/5 (rounded up) I come here when I'm craving Taiwanese bento boxes for lunch or dinner, and they have them here for pretty cheap. It's cash only like most Asian restaurants and cafes but it's not a big deal. I've also come here during the summer for their watermelon icy and also their Japanese milk tea icy, which is actually a matcha flavored icy, one of my favorites. The reason I give them 3.5 stars (-0.5) is because there is always a bit of a wait even when it's not super crowded, but it usually is.

  • Tiffany N.

They have recently raised the price to $3.50 for two milk teas, which isn't a huge problem. I'd still gladly pay that much for two teas, but I visited here recently and my Thai tea tasted really watered down. I hope it was just two particularly poorly mixed cups and not a new policy to add more water.

    (3)
  • Maggie W.

Sad to say that the prices went up to two for $3.50. Arguably, it's still very cheap but considering all of the other boba places that have opened up nearby, you can get better quality tea elsewhere for a similar price. Moccacino tends to have a chalkier consistency that makes me think their tea is made from powder and has also been diluted, while uCafe and Sheng Kee actually have a more authentic flavor in their tea.

  • Daniel C.

I used to come here a lot to get their 2 for $3.00 deal on 3 types of milk tea with boba. I'm a fan of their Jasmine Milk Tea or just their Jasmine Tea, and I thought the taste was better than the Quickly's and Sweethearts nearby. I'd recommend getting no ice because the ice dilutes the drink and makes it taste a little too watery. Recently their prices went up to 2 for $3.50 and I haven't visited this business as much anymore. Not because of the price increase but I've started liking different milk tea places. However when I'm really craving I'd say Moccacino is still the place that I'd visit in Berkeley. The girl who works there has been there for a long time and is pretty friendly, as well as who I assume is her mother who works the kitchen and front on occasions. This place is a nice little spot for a quick drink or meet-up that is super close to campus as well. Overall - Pretty long time customer during college, one of the better choices to visit if you're a Berkeley student. Cheap drink special and leaves me with the impression of long-run family business that I appreciate. 4 out of 5 stars.

The potstickers are so good! They are handmade by the mother!

The Dish: I always and only get the Thai Tea. Their $3.50 deal is good (used to be $3 though). Before Sheng Kee came along, this was my favorite place for Thai Tea. Other places pale in comparison in terms of the taste for the Thai Iced Tea. However,I cannot guarantee the quality of anything else that Moccacino offers. Their drinks are pretty good - definitely not amazing, but I would definitely go here on a hot day. Ambience: Small place, nothing spectacular. Cash only, which sucks.

    (3)
  • Amy G.

I won't lower my rating, but I am a little disappointed that they raised their two-for deal by $0.50 to $3.50. Plus, I found out that they don't stamp cards for the cheaper drinks, including the main three that qualify for the deal.

    (4)
  • Lucy C.

Moccacino, Moccacino... To be honest, I just come here for the 2 for $3 deal. In reality, your boba tastes the same as Sweetheart and Quickly, it's just because of the low price that I keep coming back! One thing that I dislike about Moccaccino is that it always seems to be understaffed. And by that, I mean, one girl is the cashier, boba maker, and cook all at once. And by that, I mean, be prepared to WAIT. Bottom line: Moccacino is great for the budget-conscious, but those in a rush would be better off swinging by Sweetheart or Quickly for boba in seconds.

    (2)
  • Frances L.

Bubble tea here is cheaper than at anywhere else (2 for $3.50) and you can pick from different types of tea (green, black, and jasmine) and hot or cold. The drinks aren't consistent though. I came here three times, and once received a diabetes-inducing sugar bomb of a drink, and once a watery bubble tea.

    (3)
  • Tianyi S.

Moccacino's bentos remind me of home! Including the cheap price! And that's the only reason I come here! This place is very Taiwanese, and though the food is not superb, it is plenteous (like, really plenteous) in portion and nostalgic value. For ~$5, you get a bento box loaded with MaPo tofu, steamed veggies, a tea egg, rice, and your choice of meat. (Ie: Teriyaki, cutlet, popcorn chicken, curry, etc.) This is the only place in town you can get Lu Rou Fan (marinated ground pork) and though I wish it was authentically fattier, it is not bad for the price point... (but mostly for the fact that it is otherwise unavailable.) The drawbacks include the "cash only" rule that is carved in stone, and the exorbitantly long wait time for a bento box. Though I generally bring a book and wait out the 20-30 minutes, a savvy insider tells me that you can just phone in your order 30 minutes before you want to eat and walk in when it's ready. Either way, it will be 30 minutes before you see your lunch box. Bottom Line: Feeds the soft Taiwanese spot in your heart when you aren't in the mood for Cheeseboard.

  • Jennifer W.

Don't get the boba, but go for their bento box lunch deal. For about five bucks, you can get a good serving of rice, side, and dish. My favorite is the curry beef bento that comes with silken tofu and veggies on a bed of rice. The bad thing is that the service here is SUPER SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be prepared to wait at least a good 20 minutes for your lunch box, even when the place is empty. I don't know why it takes that long for them to prepare the food.

    (1)
  • Aaron D.

Quick, friendly service. $2 for $3 on certain milk teas. I also dog their bento box specials; the food has a homey feel to it. Meat Quantity Radar: MEDIUM Considering the bento is around $5-6 for 4oz of meat and an egg, the price is right for a meaty meal.

  • Victor G.

Moccacino cafe's menu looks like any typical boba tea shop. place is compact like some quickly's sampling: peach green tea (1.50 munch on me coupon) -had neither peach or tea flavoring. tea drips -service not a problem -cashier looked up my munch number and crossed it off. -parking meters enforced rigorously. saw meterperson pass just before my time elapased.

I used to live for their 2 for $3 when I first came to Cal and in fact, it was the first place I ever got boba when I visited Berkeley for the first time. Sadly, I realized 1) boba is absolutely terrible for you 2) the price has gone up to 2 for $3.50 - boo! (cheap asian here) Because of these two reasons, chiefly the first, my boba consumption has significantly declined to once a month. If I do get boba though, this is where I go. Moccacino holds a special place in my heart and I will always believe that it has the best boba in Berkeley :) And holla to the girl who works here! She has never gotten my order wrong, even when I'm all like "can I get one half sugar and the other one no sugar without ice?" because I'm a picky, picky person.

  • Tina A.

boba is old, cold, and hard milk tea was watery and a little sour? jasmin green tea was barely passable, and was certainly more sweet than the milk tea we ordered 3 drinks and 2 of them were dumped, it was just that bad

  • Phoebe L.

LOVE this place so much! I come here regularly for my boba fix with the almond milk tea, which always tastes delicious! I always come with a friend and do the 2 for $3.50 deal (used to be $3 as other reviewers said, but hey it's still pretty cheap xD) and it's a nice place to sit and chat. I have also tried their bento boxes with teriyaki chicken and I really liked it, especially for its price, and the best part is it comes with a tea egg! I dont know anywhere else that has it. Also, the girl and old lady who work here are super sweet and friendly. They just make me love this place even more. Definitely a fan. Although I do wish they took card--it's cash only, people!

I really like coming here for milk tea! It's super hard to be satisfied with Taiwanesey food in Berkeley, so this is the place to go. Their 2 for $3 special is amazing, and instead of just the milk tea/thai tea/green milk tea, you can also get it without milk!!! The way I like it. And their crispy chicken isn't bad either. It's very juicy and delicious. And they sell an assortment of delicious candies such as gummy eggs and pocky and chocolate. And their stuff is evenly rounded to a nice and beautiful number so instead of paying $1.79 for milk tea like some other places in Berkeley, you pay a nice $1.50. And their bento boxes are big, and it's only around $6.50 for food+drink. HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE THIS PLACE? Granted sometimes the pearls taste bad. But sometimes they are amazing. It kind of depends on your luck. I'd say the hit rate for me is 1/6 times is excellent, 4/6 times is just good, and 1/6 times is bad. :)

EVERYONE NEEDS TO TRY THEIR BENTO BOXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's soooo goood! Their Taiwanese style bento boxes are only $5.65 including tax and you get SO much food! White rice, braised tofu, boiled vegetables, a tea egg, and a generous portion of the meat of your choice, including teriyaki stuff, popcorn chicken, and even taiwanese ground pork! Add a boba milk tea for $1.10! It makes a perfect lunch on a weekend! The workers here are also extremely nice and welcoming! Only thing is boba here isn't as great compared to other places if you get the 2 for $3 deal (You can only pick from Thai milk tea, Jasmine milk tea, Taro milk tea, and Green milk tea.) Their non-promotional flavored milk teas, however, are good and pretty cheap relative to non-berkeley locations!

Single worst experience I've had at a tea place. We walk in and order two thai milk teas. The girl behind the counter takes her sweet time making them, then gives us two tapioca teas. We see that the teas aren't the distinct orange color of thai milk tea and say "Oh, that's not what we ordered." The girl flat-out refuses to believe us and she starts yelling: "Yes, this is exactly what you ordered. You ordered tapioca tea." We knew exactly what we ordered, because we always get thai milk tea, and yet she persists. "That's what you ordered! That's what you ordered!" Not sure how a place can stay in business when they screw up this badly and blame it on the customers.

After rushing to turn in a paper 5 minutes before it was due, I felt parched on my way home. 2 for $3 boba? I figured I'd give one to my roommate. People have told to try their cheap bento boxes and since it was already 2ish and I didnt eat anything I figured I'd try it out. $5.65 for veggies, tofu, tea egg and whatever main dish you choose. $1.10 for boba. I got the teriyaki chicken with jasmine green milk tea. last time I got the taro milk tea which was not made well.... but i appreciated that the jasmine green milk tea wasnt chalky and not too sweet. Overall the serving was pretty good for 5.65 but the chicken looked like ONE costco chicken tender cut in half. At least it tasted good. Meat to rice ratio was poor. Veggies was one broccoli and cabbage, eh. The tofu was not warm and broke up easily. Tea egg, *shrugs*, its a boiled egg thats brown. The service was SO SLOW. -___(") they need to get another worker there because obviously one person is not able to handle all the traffic at 2pm. Some people were waiting forever just for their boba because she would take 6 orders and then make 6 of them at once. I wont be ordering this bento box again but the 2 for $3 will bring me back. I still havent tried the HK style waffles....next time.

Since there are a lot of boba places around Berkeley, like Quickly's and Sweetheart's they usually all well - taste the same to me. So, what makes Moccacino different from the rest? Four stars just for their bento boxes. I'm really tired of seeing other restaurants like Steve's KBBQ and Mandarin House getting 3 or 4 stars at times when they're expensive and horrible. The bento boxes are around $5.50 and comes packed with a meat topping, rice, tofu side dish, hard boiled egg, and veggies. It's enough food to get you through a long day at a cheap, cheap price. As a college student who's looking around trying to find something delicious and cheap, their bento boxes are a MUST. Wait time? It varies, but being patient is a virtue. Service: the girl who works behind the counter is very nice and reliable at getting your orders right.

These folks used to have particularly good pearl milk tea, but the recipe change several years back dropped it down to 'average' status. Decent and well-priced, but better can be had elsewhere.

I think I finally have a new favorite milt tea place in Berkeley. Sweethearts is complete crap. Tap-Ex is so so. Quickly's was the only choice I had left, so that was my go-to place for boba. Not anymore!!! I've been waiting to write this review for a while now, because I wanted to compile my perspective based on a combination of visits here, and not just one. Today was pretty much the culmination of my experiences at Moccacino. I had a mango milk tea with passion fruit jelly. It was out of this world. The tea is the closest to mango I've tasted anywhere in the East Bay, and the passion fruit jelly is much better than bland tasteless pearls. Awesome combination that you can't really find anywhere else.

The first time I wrote this review I had confused this place with somewhere I wasn't a fan of. Sorry! My boyfriend and I come here all the time. We both feel that the drinks are delicious and come at a great price. If you're thinking of stopping by please do.

This review is strictly for their milk tea with pearls. You know how there are coffee enthusiasts? I would say i'm a boba enthusiast. Instead of going out to run errands I go on boba runs to get my boba fix. My 3 P's for boba are price, presentation, and product. Moccacino's got the first P down 2 for $3 is a steal, but if they can't get product right then it just all goes down hill. Okay, I should just take the second p out because as long as my milk tea has a nice secure seal on top with a cute little design then i'm fine! But what it really comes down to is the milk tea consistency and the texture of the pearls. The milk tea was watery and the pearls were soggy and not the nice chewy texture i'm looking for. This place is also cash only. I guess they have to do that because their stuff is pretty cheap, but just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's great!

I went here two times already when I was visiting my friends. I think I'm gonna become a regular like every week! I love their 2 for $3 deals, TOTALLY WORTH IT! Their drinks are soooo much cheaper than other places (Cha Time!!!!). Bubble tea, Thai Tea, Jasmine Green Tea (wasn't a big fan until I tried theirs) and the Mango Green Tea is delishhhh. They look like they have good deals on the food too. $6 for Bento Box? I think I'll get on that :P

Ok, I might have given this place a high rating thanks to sentimental value. It reminds me of times back in Toronto when my friend and I would hang out at Tea 168 and study for hours. That's what I do here, study. Only alone. What a loser. Great value for food. It's tea food. What do you expect? It's not gourmet but it's filling, flavourful, and inexpensive. Just what I need when I'm studying. I love the girl who works here and the boba is pretty good as well. I know a lot of people who get tea here to go, but this place is actually an undiscovered gem of a study spot.

Pretty much my main boba place again after returning to Berkeley this semester. I was pretty much spoiled by the abundance of super cheap boba by being abroad in China for four months, but I got my cravings fulfilled thanks to Moccacino. I always get the 2 for $3 deal and am not ashamed to say that both bobas are for ME! Also haven't had problems with their bento boxes at all this semester. Sometimes the sweet old lady works the counter and her English is actually really good! It surprised me. My new favorite bento box is the curried beef stew. Generous chunks of beef, potatoes, carrots and lots of curry sauce to mix with the rice.

I just came back in here tonight after a long hiatus. I decided to get the rose milk tea with boba this time (it's me and i love the pearls here) and i loved it! Elaine even noticed that I wore my piercing down then asked if it was new. When I told her it wasn't, we chit-chatted for a while and she remembers my face and my usual order! holla. That's good customer service. My drink was ready in 5. :) And my drink tastes like asian falooda. win-win.

The best place to go to get boba! My lovely friends and I usually get the two for $3 deal! Which is a great deal for delicious boba! You can pick from regular milk tea, jasmine green milk tea, or thai tea. The other great drink they have is the pina colada icy. Its a bit on the sweet side, but its very good. The mango icy is good with the jellies. There are different flavors too! Tried their bento box before, which is pretty good too. Cheap for their price. They make a great lunch!

  • Lori C.

They have this deal where you get a bento box for $5.95 and you get a drink for $1. That's $6.95 for a healthy, filling meal! The bento boxes can be teriyaki or curry flavored, and can be either meat or just veggies. They come with rice, veggies and a broiled egg. The options are on the menu. It's cheap for a Berkeley restaurant. The boba drinks here are good quality too. They have a 2 for $3 deal that you can share with a friend or just save one for yourself. It's pretty quiet before 6pm so when I went there early, it was quiet and I would study. It's a good place to study or hang out with friends. There's not too many seats though but it's right across the street from the campus, so there'll be lots of options for seating. The staff are mostly Canto and are really nice and friendly. The music they play is awesome since it's asian pop haha.

I came in here to get a pearl drink and it wasn't too bad. I got the rose flavor, but was bummed to see that they also had fresh avocado milk tea after I made my order. The girl that was working there was pretty friendly too.

I walked 4 blocks to get there in the windy cold weather but I must say it was worth it. I ordered the strawberry milk tea with vanilla pudding and it was bubblishious! I've tried Strawberry flavor at other bubble tea shops before and it tasted like dental flouride but this one was great! I decided to try the pudding after reading the review on here and they were spot on. Its has a flan texture. Not to sweet. After my drink was finish I was craving for more. I guess I'll have to go back tomorrow. I ordered the bubble waffle and they said the machine was broken so I was disappointed I couldn't try that. I'm very curious to find out what this will taste like.

Two drinks for $3?! Who can turn this deal down? I think the deal only pertains to milk tea, jasmine milk tea, and/or thai milk tea drinks though, so FYI! My friend recommended the Jasmine milk tea w/pearls to me an it was good, so if you're indecisive,...try that!

Cheapest boba around campus. 2 for $3, so I usually ask a friend if they want to split with me, but if not, I get 2 anyway, hahahaha! I think the deal is Jasmine, Milk, or Thai Tea. Hot or cold, with or w/o boba! The pepper chicken bento box is pretty filling and decently yummy - if you order this, get a boba for $1 more! Yup - this is pretty much my to-go boba place if I'm around campus during the day. I like it better than Quickly's and Sweethearts that's for sure.

I stopped coming here as much as I did in the past. When I tried the milk tea again, I realized it really lacked the tea flavor and just tasted like sugar water + milk to me.. Oh, and the prices went up. I believe it is 2 for 3.50 now. The Jasmine and Thai Tea are pretty good though. Still have to give their other drinks a shot but never got the chance to.

2 for $3 boba, with a choice of Jasmine, Thai or Regular. Boba texture varies. Sometimes too chewy; sometimes perfect. Great place to catch up with a friend. Inside seatings with 3-4 tables for two. Cash only.

I'm obsessed with this little place... It's so cheap. Two milk teas for 3 bucks. AND it tastes good too. But my true love lies within its bento boxes... It comes with veggies, rice, spicy tofu, and meat. Everything's just.. sho good. I think I eat here like.. at least twice or three times a week... My favorite bento is curry beef stew.Their popcorn chicken is good too! Mostly it's flour and chicken is really little, but it still tastes great. Their spring rolls are reallyyyy greasy tho. The girl who works there (always the same one, always) is friendlyyyy too! A great place to go if you are a Berkeley student.

I HATE THIS PLACE!!!!! Whenever I think of this place, rage permeates my body and mind... So... I ordered "Gei Dan Jai" (the bubble pancakes, hong kong style). And they ended up giving me a paper bag filled with INDIVIDUAL bubbles broken apart. Its like someone chewed it up and spat it back out, and thought that I won't notice. SHAME ON YOU, MOCCACINO CAFE. And the boba taste like complete turd + vomit. Happy Holidays. I hope you close down soon.

Great little boba shop. Inexpensive and tasty and Elaine is always smiling behind the counter. Twice I came in and handed over three bucks with a "Surprise me" and both times she came up with something nice. My favorite here is the honeydew melon tea. Only complaint: I've had better popcorn chicken. But definitely the best boba place in Berkeley I've experienced.

The red bean milk icy always hits the spot for me, and I'll take it over milk tea any day, even if it does cost more at $2.85. I've tried their boba, and it's nothing that stands out but it's not terrible like the places on the other side of the block (especially Quickly's whose red bean drink tastes like salt and pepper). Service is fantastic; the girl behind the counter, Elaine(?), knows my order as soon as I walk in the door. I didn't think I was that much of a usual, I come in about once every two weeks. And sometimes she double stamps the frequent buyer card.

Located literally right across from campus, this is my go to place for a complete meal. Where else can you get a bento box and a boba for $7? Granted, there's only 3 options for the drink: regular milk tea, thai tea, and jasmine, but their jasmine is pretty good (for $1.10) so I won't complain. Those 3 are also part of the 2 for $3 special. I always get the teriyaki chicken bento. I've tried the salt and pepper chicken, but it's basically fried chicken with no seasoning at all. At least the teriyaki chicken has nice teriyaki sauce. The sauteed veggies are basically boiled veggies with some weird flavor, so I sub that out for more tofu. Mmm love their tofu. More like I love tofu in general. But there's is pretty good, since there's no excellent tofu in Berkeley anyway. Most of the time, the bento box takes forever to come out, but on occasion if you're lucky they make it really fast. The food is very consistent, probably because both the teriyaki and tofu sauces are pre-made. The drink quality can be pretty random though. Once again all pre-made stuff, but sometimes it gets really watered down. I've never gotten their other drinks, because I'm cheap and the jasmine probably isn't that much worse. I don't know why more people don't eat here, but that might be good for me so I won't have to wait forever every time I come or fight people for their limited tables.

P.S. Take a joke please. I know you were out of tapioca. I even made a joke about walking away just as dramatically as the previous customer. And even though I asked (jokingly), can I have tapioca after we paid and were waiting for the drinks to be made ... just give me a half-ass laugh at that. Geez I must have a warped sense of humor. : / Good drinks though.

I really like the 2 for $3 deal. It's perfect because it's right there in the midst of CAL and perfect pricing for the budget friendly college students. The flavors included in the 2 for $3 deal are Jasmine Milk Tea, Milk Tea and Thai Iced Tea. I got Thai Iced Tea, my go-to flavor. It's not as great of a thai tea flavor as other places I've had, but I really like the boba/tapioca. It was chewy and not soggy. Tasted kinda fruity, different than I've had before, which I liked a lot. But I would probably get something else other than Thai iced tea because I didn't like the flavor.

Quick service. The Thai Tea was a sort of bland, but delicious nonetheless! The bob a was soft but a little bit chewy. $3.25 for a large.

Maybe I'm just entranced by the boba shaker in the back, but in my opinion, definitely the best boba in the UC Berkeley area. Service is also fairly good. I once didn't have enough money to pay (didn't know it was cash only) and after pathetically counting all my coins, I realized I came out short -way short. The owner, however, didn't mind and said it was alright. Only downside is the late opening time, but I suppose most students don't crave boba at 8 in the morning like me.

The bento boxes are pretty decent in taste, size & price. The people there seem quite nice, however, everytime I go the milkteas are really watery... Not my favorite place for milktea.

I came by to grab a rushed bite to eat before attending my friend's graduation ceremony at UC Berkeley. Historically, this place used to be a Double Rainbow but now they have kept their traditional ice cream flavors and added a set of new repertoires that include eggettes, Taiwanese lunch boxes, and an extensive list of boba drinks. My ground pork over rice lunch box ($4.97) came with a nice portion of ground pork seasoned with garlic powder, stir fry cabbage, mapo tofu, a stewed hard boiled egg, and steamed rice. Aside from the hint of garlic I thought the pork was one dimensional, but I liked the stir fry cabbage and the tofu was decent but lacked spice. The highlight was the steamed hard boiled egg which best resembled my childhood days, but otherwise the experience was decent for fast food and not much more. My warm taro and red bean boba ($2.75 + 50 cents for boba) was okay. I thought the mixture of flavors between taro powder and real red beans was a bit too artificial to my liking, and the boba texture was good but not the best I've had. Service was friendly and personalized. I hope to check out their eggettes next time in an otherwise a decent stopgap for those on the run.

Some of you are just too picky for me, this has been the boba spot in Berkeley for a while now. Cheap and delicious. They've made a Honeydew & Watermelon Milk Tea addict out of me.

Finally started on their regular drinks (not the 2 for 3) and signed up for a punchcard. This time I got their fruit slushies, starting with kiwi strawberry. It was quite good, but again, I just couldn't justify the 2.75 to myself. Given the consistent Groupon specials, Tap Ex just seems like an upgrade for boba even cheaper than here! Everything aside, it does it's job, mediocre boba (good for near campus boba, but I don't want to lower my standards just because it's close to campus). I just have a bit of a problem with the price, it's quite small for its price. There's a spot of sadness left when you get down to the last 4 boba pieces and you're trying to get them with the straw. Still would come here to read. Enjoyable atmosphere

Meh. I've seriously experienced better... On Bancroft Cafe to quench my thirst? Came here after the Dalai Lama event A short walk from the Greek Theatre Can you believe they serve watered down tea with jelly? I got Jasmine Green Tea with lychee jelly Not worth $1.75 Ordering tea elsewhere

I usually come here when I'm with a friend to get the 2 for $3 deal (which includes boba!). I've actually never tried their non-deal drinks before even though a lot of them sound really good since I usually end up going to Sweetheart, but maybe I will next time. You can choose between regular milk tea, jasmine milk tea, and thai iced tea. I usually just opt for the regular milk tea with boba, which is pretty much your standard milk tea. Nothing too special here, but it's always satisfying. The boba is really soft too, which I like. Sometimes the service can be really slow though, as I've had to wait 10+ minutes for my drinks to be made. There's usually a drink special too featured at a cheaper price than normal. If you're hungry, they also sell bento boxes that you can combo with a drink which I hear are good, but I've never had before.

One of the best boba places in Berkeley, having consistent quality drinks and great service. Elaine is amazing and friendly, and I've noticed has incredible memory, able to remember everyone's drinks down to personal tastes and details. You actually have to remind her if you want to order some different. I love the Ovaltine Milk Tea. The food is pretty decent too, the popcorn chicken is tasty. The bento box is a great deal for what you pay, and you can throw in a drink for a discounted price too. There are several tables if you're looking to sit, but it's a perfect pick up and go spot with campus right across the street.

I hate the fact that this place is cash only, but I love their $4.95 bento box deal!! The portions are huge and I really like lu ruo fan (ground pork+rice) because I often find myself craving Chinese food/missing Chinese food and this hits the spot :) the quality of the food is nowhere near amazing, but for $5 I'm not complaining! It also comes with steamed cabbage and tofu. The only drink I've ordered from here was the mango green tea with half lychee jelly and half tapioca pearls. The lychee is so good :D and the drink wasn't bad, the tea taste was very strong so if you're a tea lover, moccacino's is definitely right for you! It was ~$3

  • Emmanuel C.

2 for 1 deal for the basic milk teas (black, green, thai...) + their bento boxes are decent. I would suggest you substitute the veggies with more eggs because they're rather plain. A bit on the "too-sweet" side, and it's obvious that this place doesn't prep their teas authentically.

    (3)
  • Victoria L.

Where else can you find boba for 2 for $3?! Moccacino's menu is reminiscent of Tapioca Express. However, the quality of the tea actually tastes like authentic tea and not made from a powder mix. These Cal kids sure are lucky to have a little Taiwanese cafe so close to campus. I mean, tasty cheap bentos and yummy boba to go along with it? Coming from Irvine, I have to say, I'm pretty jealous.

Thursday, 5:30PM. CASH ONLY. Meeting to meeting. Needed a beverage for a jolt of energy. Quickie: ++Friendly service ++In a rush? No worries, orders are pumped out pronto ++Awesome deals! ++Soy options (not common for bubble tea places in the area) Special of the day: green almond milk tea +refreshing almond essence +followed by slight bitterness of tea And then...? Hoping they keep that almond green tea special for awhile.

3.5 stars. This is my favorite boba place in the UC Berkeley campus area. My favorite drink here is the rose milk tea. Fragrant, light, and tasty, but pricey at $3.25. They have a frequent buyer stamp card - buy 10 drinks, get 1 free. They also sell lunchtime bento boxes with rice, veggies, a marinated tea egg, and your choice of chicken teriyaki, popcorn chicken, marinated ground pork, curry, etc. The lunch boxes are cheap (~$5), but not very good. My favorite part of it is the marinated tea egg, so I would buy that again by itself. The cashier at the counter is always very friendly, but service can be very slow. It may take over 20 mins for your bento box to come out, so don't come if you're in a big rush!

The waitress who works here every day knows how I like my milk tea. I've officially reached Asian Pop Star status 0_0v Joke aside, pretty nifty to me, as Milk tea is interchangeable with coffee and in most cases even better for a pick me up. How do I like my milk tea you ask: whatever flavor I order comes with non-fat milk and easy on the sugar. The only boba joint I know that has offered me non-fat milk as an option without a "huh?"/confused look on their face when I ask. Bless you, Moccacino Cafe. They also have these Bento boxes that are under 5$. The deal comes with rice, tofu, a boiled egg, meat of choice and a milk tea order (I think the options are thai tea and milk tea). The Bento boxes are pretty good for what you pay for. I heart this place. I just wish they opened earlier than ~11am.

I'm giving them 4 stars so that when i try everything on their menu i can still upgrade. Out of the four most proximal bbt places near campus, I think Moccacino has the best in terms of variety and flavour. They also do a pretty mean version of popcorn chicken - hot and tasty with delicious basil leaves. Their tapioca is consistently cooked properly. At both Quickly and Sweetheart's I've had old tasting tapioca that was hard. Sometimes when they're super busy it can get a little slow, but I am forgiving since when my stuff is ready it's always good! They've also recently expanded their "bento box" menu. the curry could be a little spicier but they give generous portions. the tea egg, veggies, and tofu that come with the meal are all delicious, and for $5 [$6 w/ drink] it's a great deal. Yum!

The sign says double rainbow cafe, so it was hard for me to find it on yelp. Anyways, went here for lunch and got a bento box combo. For under $7, you get a bento box and a drink. Food was really good, although the portions are a bit smaller, but for the price is very good. The speed was decent, but it was during lunch time. Space is limited for seating though. Food tasted great, although I was not a fan of the side of tofu.

Cheaaaaap food! Be aware, it's cash only!! They have a 2 for $3.00 boba deal and you can choose between regular boba milk tea, thai, or jasmine I think....It's a pretty good deal and their boba is comparable to Sweetheart's. Whenever I go it's ALWAYS the same person working there....I wonder if she lives there! I'm giving this place 4 stars mainly for their bento boxes though. They're really cheap, 6.50 for bento and boba. I alwaaaays get the salt and pepper chicken (popcorn chicken). It comes with vegetables, tofu, and a huuuge mound of rice. Definitely worth the price and it's tasty

pretty ghetto boba joint tucked away in a little hippie town. Definitely, staying in business only because its right across campus. No redeeming features of the place nor their drinks. Boba was pretty bad. They do offer a good deal 2 drinks for $3 deal. Only on three drinks. (Black milk tea, Green milk tea, & Thai Iced Tea)

Nice, helpful cashiers help you decipher the menus/sales which are all over the place. Good 2 for $3 boba, which comes in 3 flavors. I usually get the Thai ice tea one, which tastes surprisingly undiluted compared to the regular milk tea they offer. They also have a special deal involving boba and eggettes. The eggettes take around 5-10 minutes since they are made-to-order but they are fresh and come in at least 6 different flavors.

  • Rick C.

Hello 2 for $3 deal! I have never gotten food here but have always stopped by for a quick boba with a friend when I'm on my way to something or the other. This has got to be the cheapest boba in Berkeley. One thing that I love about this place is how efficient it is. I'm always in and out in no more than five minutes! Their boba is pretty good, as the milk tea is really tea-y. What I tend to hate about other boba places is that they just taste really sweet, I actually like the tea flavor of boba! The boba are pretty soft and chewy, which is always a plus because I hate having little rubber balls in my cup.

Woohoo! As good as it gets! Moccacino.....probably my favorite boba place on campus! When I was a freshman, I lived in Unit 1 right on Durant, so I would frequently stop by Moccacino's on Bancroft on my way back. I love their 2 boba milk tea for $3 deal! As most yelpers have already pointed out, it's a great deal in a college setting, where students are always looking for cheap and yummy deals. Their cashiers are always really friendly and have good energy. They're really efficient with their orders, which is definitely necessary on a college campus. The boba is always nicely chilled and doesn't have too much sugar in them. Their milk tea also tastes so much better than Sweetheart Cafe. It's a great afternoon/night delight after a long and hot day's worth of class. During my freshman year, I have ordered the teriyaki chicken with rice. It was really tasty. :) See? Even though I ordered it as a freshman, two years later, I still remember it! So, all you freshman or ANYONE who's on campus and has never tried Moccacino or boba milk tea in general, you definitely have come here!

My favorite place to go when I want some milk tea. I was a fan of Sweethearts because their strawberry milk tea wasn't that bad, and the pearls were chewy and not hard (unlike Quickly's). Ever since I've been introduced to Moccacino Cafe, it's the only place I go to when I'm craving strawberry milk tea. While they only have one size, it seems like they use actual strawberries and the pearls are incredibly soft and chewy, which is what I like. The prices are great too, especially with their 2 for $3 deal. With all the different boba places in Berkeley, I'd say this one is the best.

    (4)
  • Jay P.

Rose Milk Tea with pearl. They have the softest and perfectly cooked boba pearls of any boba shop in Berkeley. The bento boxes are surprisingly really good. I recommend the salt and pepper chicken. The tofu side dish that comes with it is an acquired taste. I recommend that you put the tofu on the side, and pour the sauce it comes with over the rice to give it a real spicy kick. Be wary that there is usually a really long wait, especially during rush times. Even when it is slow, it will take at least 10 minutes to get your bento box, as it is all fresh.

    (4)
  • Eugene C.

This place is passable. They usually have the two-for-2.50 deal for regular milk tea boba, which is pretty decent. But all their drinks have that powdery texture which I hate. Interior doesn't have much space to sit, and the whole shop is really narrow. There is outdoor seating in the general area farther back shared by the other restaurants in this little nook. If you're looking for good boba, go to Sweethearts on the other side of the block instead.

    (2)
  • Ceecee W.

$6 for a teriyaki chicken combo that comes with rice, teriyaki chicken, a tea-boiled egg, tofu, and steamed vegetable, I won't deny that I frequented this place sometimes more than once a day (hey, I was a cheap college student living off of money earned on selling back books) They also sell boba and shaved snow, in the summer they usually have drink specials.

    (4)
  • Hilary L.

I think that their boba is pperrrfeecctt, their pearls are delicous and they have a sweet deal of 2 for only 3$ which comes in 3 diffferent delicious flavors that you can choose either hot or cold, which is great for having both at the same time. The reason only four stars is because the popcorn chicken wasnt that good, but i usually dont order it anyways. I only love the boba, better than any other place which charges you for a hot one.

  • Mochi L.

Wow, this bubble tea place is sooooo good. The tapioca pearls are excellent. My mom would describe them as "q", describing the great consistency and bounce. The milk tea had the right combo of sugar, tea, and milk... and it was frothy. The 2 for $3 helps too, that's a great price for authentic, satisfying bubble tea. The 2 for 3 only applies to their black, jasmine, and thai teas. We also go the salt n pepper chicken, which was very delish... yum I'm just drooling thinking about this place.

    (5)
  • Farrah F.

I love the 2 for $3 deal. Granted, it only applies for jasmine milk tea (the only one I've tried--repeatedly), thai iced tea, and regular milk tea...but still good! They have a huge selection of other types of drinks, food, snacks, candy...even ice cream! But I can't say anything about any of those since I've never tried it. I just take advantage of the aforementioned deal. It gets crowded with students at times, and like most Asian establishments, cash only!

  • Janice W.

While others have mentioned that their drinks have been watery, powdery.. too sweet.. etc., I actually like this place. Well, just for one particular drink, actually. This is the only place in Berkeley that makes a pretty good Rose Milk Tea. Light rose flavor, and milk tea! Not too sweet at all. I remember ordering this drink at Quickly's before, and they just made my drink taste oddly like roses. Like I just chomped on a bunch of rose petals, and was drinking watered down milk tea. Not the case here! Also, they have a 2 for $3 deal, so get one for yourself and a friend! Yay

    (4)
  • Eileen L.

Both their black milk tea and coconut taro milk tea lacked flavor . Their takoyaki was no good ... it was very mushy .

I always come here for milk tea! I heard their Rose Milk Tea with Pearl is fantastic, but I haven't tried it yet. There's this one young woman who is always working there, and she is really nice. I love the restaurant's decor. I swear, it's like a real-legit Chinese milk tea shop. It's kind of hard to describe it in words, but it's like one of those quaint shops nestled in between the busy streets of Berkeley... If you're looking for a cheap meal, get their bento box+milk tea combo. (total price comes out to be $6.50 exactly). I think this place is a family-owned business. I have to say their salt-and-pepper chicken bento is pretty good! It has a mildly spicy flavor. Each bento box comes with steamed vegetables, tofu, and a marinated tea egg. I think some people have different views on the tofu. I personally adore it, but I didn't always like it at first. They like to use the really soft tofu and they cook with a spicy sauce. I would just have to say that the sauce is sometimes excess but is easily remedied by distributing the sauce over the rice that comes with the bento. I love their tea eggs. For those who aren't familiar with what that is, it's basically a hard-boiled egg marinated in tea and soy sauce, which gives the egg a rich-dark color. The vegetable salad is pretty standard. I am a BIG fan of strawberry milk tea. And I have been to a lot milk tea shops around the Bay Area. When I go to a milk tea restaurant, I judge by the store's ability to make a good strawberry milk tea :) In short: they have good milk tea. I like their pearls because the tapioca is cooked so that each pearl is nice and chewy, giving a slight bounciness with each bite. Some places have rock-hard tapioca, which makes for an unpleasant effort while trying to drink your milk tea. Also, I like how they use real strawberry extract in the drink, whereas some places use powder :( Also, last thing: their milk tea isn't too sweet. You still know you're drinking some tea from the after taste, which is, of course, a good thing. I'll give the Rose Milk Tea a try the next time I'm here.

Moccacino's is really small and often gets really crowded, people don't realize that there's a back door that they can exit out of to avoid fighting through the crowd. Other than that I stand by my five-star review. I am a frequent visitor and once you get to know Elaine, you'd be a frequent visitor too. She's fast, efficient, and very friendly.

  • Rose Y.

My go-to place when I was in Berkeley! Their milk tea is reasonably priced (2 for $3!) and the strongest in tea flavor amongst its competitors nearby, Sweetheart's and Quickly's. It still cannot compare to Fantasia or Tea Era, but for the price, who can complain?! I always get the jasmine milk green tea with pearls. The pearls are not as sweet and chewy as Sweetheart's, but Sweetheart's tea sucks in comparison. I've tried one of their bento boxes before too; not bad! I think the smell alone makes it taste better. Overall, good place. However, they close way earlier than all the other boba places and don't have a convenient location. :(

  • Jen C.

I've recently tried their bento boxes and I loooove coming here for lunch. They have a good variety that you can choose from, and each comes with rice, steamed lettuce, tofu, and a tea egg. All for $5.65! (The only thing is that there is definitely a long wait). But mmm, so worth it.

  • Hannah H.

If I told you that one can still get a satisfying lunch meal for five bucks, you'd probably do a spit-take from your $3.50 double-shot latte and drop your $10 fist-sized anchovy sandwich. Better believe it, because Moccacino has the deal. Five bucks (plus a couple of quarters) will get you a bento box, which includes rice, mapo tofu, steamed veggies, tea-boiled egg, and the item of your choice. I almost always pick the salt-n-pepper chicken, which has the best protein-to-flavor ratio I've ever tasted for that particular item, and if you're lucky enough, there'd be a little bit of fried basil to boot. Other items are just as good, but somehow I find myself drawn to the chicken, slave to my addiction to fried goodness. The veggies are never too salty and have the right amount of crunch; they're usually cabbage, but I've gotten broccoli and carrots before. The mapo tofu is silky and comes out hot, though fans of the spicy kind will be disappointed. Even though you'll see chili flakes, you'll have to imagine the spicy kick. To sweeten the deal, for just one buck more, you get a drink with the bento, and boba pearls come FREE! For me, a Thai tea lover, this can't get any better. They make it well: great tea-milk ratio, and the boba is nice and chewy. Ok... but what if you don't care for the bento? Well, the café is of a pretty decent size, pretty close to size with Sweetheart Café, with a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating, but Moccacino has plenty of bright light. It's a pretty typical Asian café for the most part, except the bento deal makes this one of my favorite stops for lunch. The buy-one-get-one-free drink deal is nifty too, though I never have anyone with me to drink the second. They serve ice cream too, but I've seen maybe four people get a scoop in three years. Might as well go to the one-dollar scoop place down on Shattuck or the many ice cream/yogurt/gelato places in this area. One note about service, and the reason why there aren't more stars for this business: the bento take a long time to drop into your hands (and eventually into your stomach). Expect around twenty minutes for your order to come, which is plenty of time to finish off your one-dollar drink, so grab-n-go customers should steer clear. Otherwise, the clerks are friendly and don't give you trouble. Drinks, of course, take just a few minutes to reach your lips :) So if you want your boba fix AND some great bento (Chinese, not Japanese, mind you), Moccacino can't be beat with its five (or six) dollar deal.

For $5-6 dollars you can get a boba drink and a bento box of your choice. To me, when I'm feeling in need of some more basic homey-feeling asian food, I swing by Moccacino for a curry chicken bento and milk tea. It's nothing spectacular to be honest. But it's so casual, cheap, and convenient as it's right across the street from campus. Don't bother buying boba drinks here unless you have a second person with you. They have a 2 for $3 deal. Otherwise, walk for a couple of minutes over to Durant for boba at Sweetheart cafe. I'm no boba connosieur or anything, but the boba tastes much fresher there.

My roommate and I were forever texting each other "BOBA????" in our last year at Cal because of the 2 for $3 deal at Moccacino. Choose from Bubble Milk Tea / Jasmine Green Milk Tea / Thai Milk Tea, hot or cold, with or without tapioca. I like that the boba here is soft and chewy and flavorful. I hate bland boba. And since it's always the same kawaii girl and guy who work there every time I go, you can expect the drinks to be consistently good. I can't say much about the food, snacks, or ice cream that they also sell. I got the popcorn chicken bento box combo once, and it satisfied those crazy post-all-nighter-exam cravings for salty fried things. Also:cleaner, brighter seating than any of the other boba places around campus make this one my favorite.

Horrible service with attitude. Ordered two drinks, and the woman went off to talk to her (what seemed like) boyfriend for a couple minutes and then make my drinks. Ordered a drink with boba and grass jelly, and it only came with boba. I told her, and she gave me this look like I was crazy, and then pour out the boba and put some jelly in there. Didn't even clean the cup, and it had MUCH less milk tea in there than usual.

The boba is high quality - nice and chewy with a good brown sugar taste. However, what makes this place special are their bento boxes. They have many choices and all are the same price. They give you a plenty amount of meat for a very affordable price.

Really big fan of the cheap bento boxes, my favorite being the marinated ground pork. They come with a delicious tea egg and this tofu that I have slowly become addicted to. I don't come here as often as I like because it is cash only, and I rarely carry cash. The teas here are pretty good and very cheap with the bento box combination. I'm not a huge boba fan, but I tried their yogurt green tea, which was tart and delicious but too sweet. I recommend going low-sugar/no extra sugar if you aren't a huge fan of sweets.

I used to come here nearly every week my Freshman year at UC Berkeley. Elaine is super nice and makes the perfect-tasting boba! I can't say enough about the boba: the tapioca is soft and slightly chewy, and sweet as well. Pretty much the best boba I've ever had so far. Try the peppermint boba - one of my favorites. Another bonus is that you can get 2 regular bobas (3 types of flavors) for $3! Also try the takoyaki and/or bento boxes if you're hungry for a snack. And don't forget to get a stamp card, you'll definitely be coming back.

This is a really cute place, and I really like their bubble tea. I usually like my tapioca pearls softer than what I find at other places, so this place fits me just right. I had their jasmine thai iced tea three times in my 2 weeks at Berkeley. I also ordered their chicken teriyaki bento box (came with veggies, tofu in soy paste, and rice). It was yummy, but chicken teriyaki reminded me of what I had at L&L Hawaiian BBQ in NYC. it was like teriyaki sauce drizzled on slices of cooked chicken rather than chicken teriyaki itself. But it was still good. $6.50

With their 2 for 3 dollar deal, I think Moccacino's is officially the cheapest place in Berkeley for boba ever since Sweetheart's and Quickly raised their prices. You have a choice of Jasmine milk tea, regular milk tea and Thai milk tea (I think there's another one, but I can't remember at the moment) with the 2 for $3 deal, not to mention you can get it hot or cold. Pretty good selection. Their tea quality varies and recently it's gotten worse, in my opinion. I usually get the almond milk tea or the jasmine milk tea. The regular milk tea was incredibly powdery the couple times I got it and I've steered clear ever since. The Thai milk tea is pretty decent. I'm talking even more powdery than Sweethearts (but don't get me wrong, I love my Sweethearts). To me, all of their drinks have gotten more powdery and more watered down now a days, but some days are better than others. Sometimes they can be quite flavorful, so I'll give them that. I don't know how people can praise the boba at this place -- I think it's some of the worst in Berkeley. I've tried it twice and both times it's been too hard in the center and too soft on the outside. I mean really unbearably chewy. I'll give it one more try and revise my review if I have a better experience, but one more strike and this place is out. They also have cheap "bento" boxes (not really what I think of as bento, but you get a meat item, veggies, rice and a tea egg). They look pretty good and you get a free drink with them. I know people who really like them but I've yet to try one. I'll revise my review accordingly once I do. If you and a friend are craving cheap, fast boba, this is probably the place to go, but beware of the tapioca....

I love the milk tea with boba! It tastes like Chuck Norris rode into my mouth on a unicorn and personally coated every one of my taste buds with awesome black tea flavor! Also, the popcorn chicken makes me cry diamonds, which is awesome cuz I'm poor. GO HERE!

Yummy boba! And you can't fins a better deal for milk tea and Thai tea... 2 for $3.50 w/ tapioca.

Their bento boxes are great! The rice is very yummy. The box also comes with a side of vegetables (steamed cabbage/broccoli/carrots), a side of tofu in a slightly spicy sauce, and a tea egg so there's a good balance between everything. The bento boxes take about 10 minutes to make. I usually order the teriyaki chicken, which is delicious! But I have tried others: salt & pepper chicken - a little on the spicy side, and they don't give you a lot orange peel chicken - very saucy, sorta felt like I was eating more sauce and no chicken chicken curry - for some reason I felt sick while eating it...might have been the sauce/potatoes or the fact that I had a cold veggie bento - very yummy! a great vegetarian option...comes with cabbage, broccoli, bok choy, carrots, and shiitake mushrooms The boba is undiluted and also good, and it's consistently better than Quickly's or Sweetheart's. By the way, the lady that works there is adorable!

Their boba deal cannot be beat. Two for the price of one! I don't know about the quality of the drink "liquid", as I have had better milk tea elsewhere, but I will say without a doubt that their boba "pearls" are the best in the immediate south campus area. They are soft and consistent throughout the whole ball, just how I like it (sounds vaguely dirty? Sheesh get your mind out of the gutter). On boba run days on which I have a partner, this is the place I go. Otherwise, down to Sweethearts it is. They also sell food here. They have bento box deals that are pretty decent. After trying all the different options they have, I probably will stick to the boring popcorn chicken. The other dishes taste a little too one dimensional to me for me to really enjoy them. As a note, they also serve ice cream which I NEVER EVER seen anybody order. If you look at it through the glass partition, they also look like nobody had touched them for ages. I swear, if they end up scooping something out of there, the color of the top of the oxidized ice cream will be a completely different shade from whats underneath. Granted, this is all conjecture on my part and probably just from an overactive imagination, but DANG. That looks like some shady ice cream.

If you want good boba, look for the sign proclaiming Double Rainbow Ice Cream. In the berkeley tradition of not taking down old shops signs, this marks Moccacino Cafe. What isn't fantastic about this place? They have the best boba I've found in berkeley, the barrista's are super friendly and fun to chat with during the off hours. Only got a couple minutes between classes? They're right across the street on the south end! Oh and then there's the bento boxes. $6 for an amazing filling lunch of veggies, meat, rice, and a tea egg. What you say, only $1 for a bubble milk tea? When you toss in the covered outdoor area, there is nothing this place does not do right. I do wish they'd bring back the vietnamese sandwiches though. I remember those from about 4 years ago when I first arrived in Berkeley. They were the only place that made one that I liked in the area.

Ordered Papaya tea with milk. I took a gamble with that flavor since I usually don't like the taste of papaya, but I was pleasantly surprised. The best tasting milk tea I had in awhile. The consistency is great. Not too thick and not too watery. The tapioca was fine too. All this for $3. Sounds like a steal to me. At least it doesn't have the manufactured, mcdonalds type of taste like quicklys usually has.

  • Maggie L.

They had a 2 for $3 deal where you can choose between any two milk tea, thai milk tea or jasmine milk tea for $3, no tax, boba included. I went with the thai milk tea, my friend got jasmine milk tea. Both tasted horribly terrible! The thai milk tea LOOKED like it was thai milk tea, meaning, it had the right color, but when you take a sip, it tastes like nothingness. It was so watered down that it felt like I was just sipping on ice water with boba. Disgusting. Even after I mixed it around, it still tasted the same. My friend also disliked his jasmine milk tea. He said that it had the right jasmine flavor to it, but they put waaaay too much sugar, causing his concoction to be way too sweet. If you're really craving some good milk teas, just walk a bit further towards telegraph, turn the corner and try out Quickly's or Sweetheart in the asian ghetto. Those are MUCH better and more worth your money.

I am a staunch believer that in a Nor Cal vs. So Cal competition for best-tasting boba, So Cal boba shops win hands down. HOWEVER, amongst Berkeley campus-side boba places, Moccacino is the best one. Their boba balls are usually pretty chewy and good and the service is pretty fast. I've only ever seen one girl working there and I have no idea how she's able to handle all those customers all the time. She's super nice and really quick. My favorite this summer was the Watermelon slushy drink with boba and ohmygosh that was enough to get me through the hot summer days. From a So Cal perspective, Moccacino is decent (:

This place serves the best boba in town and has something for you whether it is hot or cold outside. I come here regularly and their boba always hits the spot. Most people order cold drinks, but definitely give their hot tea a try. Unlike other places, they do not microwave it. They make their hot boba using a frappacino maker. So it tastes foamy and delish. I have tried their food combos and the fried chicken is very tasty. Try it!

  • Chris L.

The boba here is pretty good...but I've had better. I usually only come here if someone comes with me for the 2 for 3 boba deal. The price for just one is more expensive than other boba joints around here. Like sweethearts, the boba is sweet, which is something I'm not fond of, but many people i know are. I would not recommend getting a meal from this place. I ordered a pork curry bento box, and it took a pretty long time, and it wasn't even that good. There was like barely any curry taste in the rice.

In a sea of disappointing bubble bev pretenders in the vicinity, Moccacino does bubble drink right. When I drink Moccacino's Thai milk tea and savor those huge tapioca pearls, it makes me softly close my eyes as I smell incense & peppermints inexplicably waft in from Berkeley circa 1966 and suddenly I'm just as happy as a petite jasmine girl in a new summer dress who just got another set of straight A's at Cal and freshly inked lower back tatts.

" Best Tapioca in Town" - and it's TRUE They know my "usual" once I take one step into the door way. 2 milk tea's for $3 and it couldn't get any better! Something as simple as a milk tea can be altered to destruction and I've had some awful tea's. Once I had one tea here, I was hooked and now I've been coming to Moccacino for a few years now and I have never ever had a bad tea! PS. Cash Only.

Not the best Thai Iced Tea... go to an authentic Thai restaurant for those.... But this is has the best Thai Ice Tea + Tapioca since Thai restaurants don't seem to catch on that people like tapioca in their Thai Tea!

Poor Benton Box, the worst milk tea ever! only one girl over there and run whole store ! their milk tea was very watery! I have been waiting for almost 30mins to get my bento box! bad service

This place may have the cheapest deal for pearl milk tea in Berkeley BUT in my opinion it's pretty much an insult to it.

  • Kim-van T.

Not too shabby for a place with a strange name... My sister was telling me about this place because of the BOGO milk tea deal they have (only for certain flavors). I decided to give this place a try and was happy to see that they had my fave (honey green milk tea) on the menu. The server was friendly and I probably only waited 2 minutes until my order was ready. The milk tea itself wasn't too shabby - a tad sweet and I found the tea not as fragrant as the tea I get at Tapioca Express. However the boba wasn't too soft and had a good texture. For $3.25 it was pretty satisfying.

  • Jenny W.

Sweethearts is cheap, but you can taste the the cheapness/get what you pay for. Tapioca Express is always too syrupy. This place, on the other hand, has some of the best bubble tea in berkeley, *and* they have a stamp card for frequent buyers. What's not to love? I highly recommend the rose milk tea, with lychee jelly. Their bento boxes are also pretty good - cheap ($4.95 a pop), and filled with asian goodies that I have a hard time finding anywhere else in Berkeley, such as tea-boiled eggs, and soft (mapo?) tofu. The only downside is the extremely long waiting time it takes for them to cook each bento, and the toughness of some of the meat dishes. I always get the salt and pepper chicken, which always turns out great. Customer service is good- I love the chic/sweet cashier up at the front. I just wish they weren't as understaffed, so they could take orders/cook a little faster. But maybe I'm being too demanding.

Moccacino is a cute, cramped little hole in the wall selling yummy boba milk teas, juices, smoothies, chinese bento boxes, double rainbow ice cream, and all manner of asian snack foods and candies. Not the sort of place you're likely to hang out in for any length of time as it is a long skinny space with sparse seating, but it does have a pleasantly funky vibe. The people working here are extremely nice too. I once came in on a blisteringly hot summer afternoon and the place was packed. The lovely and very chic Asian girl working behind the counter had a lot going on and a lot of impatient customers behind me to deal with, but she was still willing to take the time to give me directions to the BART station in addition to bringing me my yummy Honey Chrysanthemum Boba. You really cannot beat this place for convenient location (right across the street from the UCB campus and a short jaunt from Cesar Chavez Center), fantastic student friendly prices (for $5 you can get an enormous yummy bento box to-go and add a boba tea for $1!!!), and good eats. My only complaints are how busy it gets and the often long wait for the food to come out. This to me seems like as good as it gets for a poor, hungry little student with a short lunch break and a major wheat-gluten allergy, but then I'm no Bubble Tea connoisseur . . . yet. ;) (I have had the hellish experience of being diagnosed with Celiac disease and a host of other food allergies recently, so finding a place where I can SAFELY grab a bite to eat is a lot harder for me then your average person!) What I recommend: Rose Milk Tea w/ pearls, Thai Milk Tea w/ pearls, Black Milk Tea w/ pearls . . . etc., etc., etc., the chicken curry bento with tofu, veggies, and a tea egg.

This is my boba go-to place! I ALWAYS get their 2 for $3 deal with jasmine green milk tea + boba. Not only is it a good deal, the milk tea here tastes 100x better than Quickly's and Sweetheart cafe.

Mmmm it's not yummy..I always give in to the 2 for $3. Seems like the people that work there hate their job or maybe they just don't like me.

A typical college establishment. Barley milk tea was actually good. Half-sugar tasted just fine for me, which is GREAT! (Just to put it into perspective, I usually order half-sugars at all Asian-drink shops cept at Class 302 in Irvine..) I also ordered the Curry Beef, uhm...not so sure about this one. I like it came in a bento box and had side dishes, but the side dishes tasted bland. Rice was hard..but typical in many places. The Curry was too bland, the potato too hard, and the egg..well, was bland too. I would recommend food in the Asian Ghetto.

    (3)
  • Karen W.

FRESH Papaya milk is great. And...I just noticed today that they have Barley Milk Tea! This stuff has an absolutely *exquisite* taste... I was surprised that another place could have Barley tea that even comes close to yumminess that is Tea Era (in Mountain View). Yay for Moccacino!

Came here with a few friends on a random trip to Berkeley. The girl is super lovely and down to earth. I am pretty picky on my boba but I have to admit, she make some pretty good Thai Tea. (:

I am ALL about deals. The bento deal and boba deal (2 for $3) are awesome! My boyfriend and I ate here one night and each got a bento and a bubble tea. When he told me it was $5 for the bento box I was like "are you sure?!" I had the jasmine milk tea and it was pretty good. The food was a decent portion, and pretty tasty. I appreciated the sides which consisted of steamed veggies, tofu, and the tea egg, (except it gave me a bit of indigestion later curse you tea egg -_-) I would definitely come here again when I'm in the area and want a cheap meal.

  • James W.

They have your typical milk tea, snow, regular tea, comes hot or cold. Also sells some Asian snacks like chestnuts and Pocky. There's three or four tables for doubles in the main shop and a few tables that the neighboring shops share outside. I recommend rose milk tea hot on a rainy day. I still love the cold mango and peach milk teas. You can catch AirBears from inside the shop. Cash only.

  • Ryan C.

Esther Y. and the other optos are always exhorting this place, but I never really believed them because it just didn't look so great. But I think I'm sold. It's kind of loud in there but oh-so-Asian, and the drinks are quite good, and quite variable as well. You can ask for things less sweet which is great. For some reason "mango passion" stuff is really popular. When we were there, everyone was ordering it. I theorized it's because "mango passion" is the longest thing on the menu, both in english and chinese, so you feel like you're getting more for your money.

Probably one of the better boba shops around campus. The drinks are good, the boba is chewy, the food is yummy (and cheap!), and the service is really friendly-- what more could you want? The service is pretty speedy considering there is usually just one employee. THEY ACTUALLY SPEAK ENGLISH HERE, AND YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THEM, unlike other shops where I feel like I only understand what is being chirped at me because I'm from an Asian family (Quicklys, Sweetheart, I'm looking at you). One of the most impressive things about this shop is that their straws are individually wrapped! No longer will I have to reach into a communal bucket of straws after Lord knows who has stuck their grubby, disease infested hands into the bucket and thereby infecting all the straws with some new pestilence. As someone that frequents this shop way more than I should, I can in very good faith call out all the low rating people as dipshits. I eat here on a weekly basis and have never once gotten sick from the food. Maybe they've been shoveling so much garbage food down their gullets that the moment something that wasn't processed entered their stomach it felt it had to purge it from the system? Just a thought.

Boba milk tea, thai iced tea, and jasmine milk tea that taste really good AND only cost $3 for TWO cups!!?!?! This place is 10x better than sweethearts and any other Boba place within wakling distance. I drive from Northside for their drinks... Cute girl that's always super nice and friendly (the one without the height advantage anyway)?!?!? She sometimes wears preppy glasses, but she can prep my drinks anytime :D Delicious food at affordable prices in the SAME place??!? Yes, it's true. Go. Now. I really wish they didn't use plastic take-out containers though... If I could give this place 10 stars, I would.

Yeah, that 2 for $3 deal, so very awesome!!!! You cannot beat that deal. That was tasty Thai milk tea with the perfect pearls. I'm getting some every time I'm on Telegraph with a friend. And I wasn't the only one to think that about the pearls, my date made a conscious effort to consume them all, it was cute :0).

This used to be an ice cream store, I think it was Dirty Rainbow, and it still serves Ice Cream. But the big thing nowadays is Boba, Milk Tea, Bubbles, in other words, tapioca balls in your hot or cold tea or fruit and ice flavored drink. And since Boba drinks are an Asian invention (a store in Taiwan claims to have invented it) and becoming wildly popular, this is a good location. Since the student population at UC Berkeley is now about 42% Asian (the largest single ethnic block) then you can see where this place might be popular, at least in the fall when the kids come back to school. This is on Bancroft right across from campus, just up the street from Sproul Hall on the other side. The prices are student oriented, as is the service. You know what I mean.

  • Dee D.

I love this place! Not only is their boba delicious, but their bento boxes for ~$5 are VERY filling. I usually get the salt+pepper (popcorn) chicken bento box which comes with loads of rice, steamed broccoli/cabbage/carrots, mapo tofu, and a tea (aka hardboiled) egg. For an extra dollar, you can get bubble milk/jasmine/thai milk tea with boba. Their 2 for $3 boba (same choices as above) is also a great deal considering its consistently good and never filled with ice (like Sweethearts).

    (4)
  • Stephanie L.

My favorite drink here is jasmine milk tea. It's not too sweet or bland and I can taste the jasmine. The pearls are good and chewy. I also tried their milk tea and thai tea, but unfortunately they were both too watery for me. The price is really cheap though so that's always good.

    (4)
  • Mason T.

by far my favorite boba place at Cal. Usually my conscience would tell me not to order two beverages, but it's hard to say no their 2 for 3 deal. I usually keep it simple with just a thai tea and a milk tea. The tea itself is perfect - not too sweet nor bland and the tapioca pearls are just chewy to the point where they become cumbersome to eat. The prices here are kept really low, even for berkeley standards. Better yet, the cashiers here aren't pms-ing like the ones at sweetheart. Service is quick -- highly recommend.

I realize this place is about bubble tea, but they do also sell food. It takes forever, the service is sub-standard and the menu description is vague... but it is cheap. Salt and pepper chicken. It was hot deep fried morsels of... maybe chicken. Doesn't really matter, it only cost $4.50.

Moccacino is the best! Before discovering Moccacino, I was not fond of milk tea. The stuff from Tapioca is too sweet and Quickly's milk tea is boring. At Moccacino I always request my milk tea to be less sweet and the girl who usually works there makes it perfect every time! There is also a huge menu. The ones I've tried have all been delicious including: Jasmine green milk tea Honey green milk tea Rose milk tea Taro coconut milk tea Ovaltine milk tea Black milk tea If you come with a friend then you can capitalize on the 2 for $3 deal! It used to be 2 for $2, but 1.50 is still very cheap. But you are limited to a few choices such as Jasmine green, black, and thai (I think) and the drinks are smaller. It is still worth it to order just one because it's about double the size of the 2 for $3 deal and they range from $2 to $2.75 depending on which flavor you get. The service is great. So is the location. A hot milk tea on one of those cold, dreary Berkeley days makes a whole day of classes and lab much easier to endure.

although the staff was nice & friendly, i was not satisfied with the taste of my jasmine green tea with pearls. it tasted as if the pearls have not been fully cooked, and had somewhat of a grainy texture and at the same time it had a weird after taste, ruining the drink so i just tossed it. :[

  • Justine K.

2 drinks for $3? I'm sooo there! I got thai milk tea with pearls and my friend got jasmine milk tea with no pearls. Good prices. Good drinks. The taste of jasmine tea reminds me of walking into a hippie/organic shop where they burn incense. I don't think that makes sense at all to anyone but me, but whatever. I wanted to buy cute little asian snacks but they're pricey and I get scared that I won't like them and it'll be a waste of money. I want thai milk tea now.

I actually really liked the bright atmosphere of this place. Their store is a lot more inviting than Quickly's or Sweetheart Cafe on the other side of the street. The only thing difficult about this place is the 2 for $3 milk tea deal, you need to find somebody else or just have 2 for urself :p

i can't remember the last time i had boba... today i walked by and my friend wanted to get some and it sounded quite good so her and i both got the jasmine green milk tea with boba... cashier was quick and friendly and in no time did we have our drinks and were on our way... :)

The "Taiwanese bento" portions are generous, if not entirely authentic. A little too much garlic and not enough sauce, potatoes, or carrots in the curry chicken, though the sides of cabbage and mapo dofu are a nice touch. I'm sure the little red sweater hairS (not just one, mind you -- MULTIPLE hairs) wrapped around some of my potato and chicken pieces are not part of the authentic recipe. What the hell? Still, it's cheap enough that I might go back. They seem like nice folks, and they're well-liked by enough Yelpers that my hairy incident was probably an anomaly...

the people who work here are so nice! i always get strawberry kiwi juice with boba, a little extra ice. one time, the chick made it with only kiwi juice. laughed, and remade it. then, she forget to add the ice. took her like 3 times to get my boba correct. usually, it would annoy me like crazy, but she was so sweet and did it all with a smile on her face so i couldn't even be mad! (espesh because that's something i would do!) maybe it's a good think that it's cash only. prevents me from going here so often since i barely ever carry cash ;)

This place is great if you're walking around campus aimlessly with a friend in between classes. They have an amazing buy 1 get 1 free deal for milk teas! This goes for regular milk tea, jasmine (green) milk tea, and even thai tea. You can get it with or without boba, plus when it's chilly, you can even get the drinks hot. You don't even have to get the same one as the person you're with to qualify for the deal. Basically it's like 1.25 for a milk tea. And it's less sweet and fresher tasting than Quickly. They also sell Asian candies and when they're making the little egg cakes, the whole place smells heavenly. The workers are always really nice and it saddens me that this place is overshadowed by other institutions. Go here to satisfy your milk tea craving and your loneliness!

i had the coffee milk tea with pearls. Good but not great. Tapioca balls are sublime as always though.

I love Boba, and decided to give this place a chance instead of going to Quickly. The guy that took my order was really nice but I guess there was a small miscommunication about what the order was (no big deal) but I confronted the girl who gave it to me about it and she automatically started giving me attitude. She insisted that it was me who made the mistake and refused to let me finish my sentence. It was probably the worst customer service I have experienced in my life and you could tell the guy behind the counter was feeling awkward about it. No human being deserves to be treated with such disrespect, let alone in a professional and customer service oriented environment. Saving a few bucks on some good boba will never be worth being treated like that. I reccomend going to Quickly or somewhere else that appreciates your business. If you are the manager and reading this, I highly reccomend you have a talk with your staff. It is apparent that this has been a problem before and it can be turned around with some adjustments.

It is so hard to find a good boba place. Some places have a billion menu items, but they are not that good. Some places are great, but have a limited selection. Moccacino has the best of both. They have a big selection AND their drinks are great. I had to give them one less star because it gets crowded during the school year when all the students are in town.

I see no reason to dock this place a star at all... good thai milk tea, great price, fast service, and pretty nice people too. =) $1.25 for thai milk tea WITH tapioca? come on, it doesn't get much better than that... i've yet to try their bento boxes, but they look good too...

I haven't reviewed this place already? Weird. I can't believe the first time I came, I only bought ice cream. After that, until the institution of the Clipper transit card, the staff graciously put up with me requesting certain denominations of change back from my cash, for the bus. Because I come here that often. The bubble tea is fabulous. I haven't found any other place as good. The yogurt green tea and the peppermint are two of my faves. Love it here.
