I came here with my sister's 3 and had a fabulous time. The atmosphere is very relaxed, bands playing and beautiful outdoor scenery. The staff was very friendly and they made sure I got to taste the different ciders they carried before I ordered, since I was looking for Angry Orchard and they did not carry it. I tried the blackberry cider which is not as sweet but was very tasty. The only complaint I would have was the chicken wings were not what I expected. They should have been marinated more in the garlic soy. It was not their best. .....but they will still get 4 stars for their service, atmosphere, and music. Will come again!

Jupiter has a great custom selection of pizzas that are perfect for any occasion, they also come in two sizes: 9 and 13 inches. The outdoor seating is a must for any date. The string lights are my favorite :)

*sighs* I want to give this place a 4 because of the wonderful atmosphere and beer but my experience here last night was such a let down that I can't justify a 4. My actual first experience here wasn't even a dining experience. First time: came in after around 10pm? and wasn't allowed in because I was under 21. Second time: came in on a Friday for dinner, WAY too crowded, absolutely no seating. My third time here was my ACTUAL first experience. Came in on a Sunday night at around 11pm. The kitchen was closed so my friends and I got a beer. Seating was still fairly scarce but we managed to get a spot. It was my 21st birthday weekend and when the waiter carded me he noticed. He brings us our beers and about half an hour later brings me a free drink and I have to chug it faster than he does, if you win you get another free drink. I lost by a second but it was good fun and the awesome waiter decided to take my first drink off the tab. Absolutely amazing night. (5/5 for the experience, the drinks, the ambiance, etc.) About a month later I came back with a slightly bigger group (5 people including myself). The entire place was insanely busy (Saturday night 8:30pm). There was no one else waiting for a seat but there were also no tables available that would fit us. This sucked especially because there were 2 tables that would sit 5 people easily but they were taken by couples who could easily fit in a few of the available 2 person tables. The seat yourself thing may be effective but it also leads to people taking way more room then they need. The waiters completely ignored us until we managed to squeeze our group into a tiny table area meant for 4 (though with the amount of people around us, 3 people would be more appropriate). The waiter wasn't nearly as friendly as last time which is understandable considering the number of people and with that considered I'm glad we actually managed to get our order in pretty fast. I ordered the chicken liver pate and the 5 of us shared a 13" gaia. Chicken liver pate: This is only my second time having it so I admit I don't know it very well. Only one girl in our group was willing to try it (besides myself) and she didn't enjoy it. I thought it was good but after your 3rd crostini the after-taste gets to you. It's definitely meant to be shared. As soon as the waiter brought me the crostinis he knew I'd need more and offered to get me some but he never came back. Gaia: One of the girls said a 9" would feed 3 people so everyone thought the 13" would be enough to feed the 5 of us. I completely disagree. With 5 people we each got 1.5 slices of pizza (1 person got 2 slices). If you are coming for beer and a snack MAYBE that's enough, but a meal? Absolutely not. As for the taste, well, everyone in our group seemed to enjoy and praise the pizza but I'm not sure if they were being sincere because personally it was a VERY mediocre pizza. There weren't enough mushrooms on it (several slices had none at all), the chicken was dry, the crust was crisp but had an undercooked taste, and overall it was just very very bland. It's not the worst pizza in the word but if you expect a slightly-higher end pizza, you'll be disappointed. (1.5/5) Despite all this, the ambiance was still wonderful and the bad was great. I will be back to give another pizza or dish a try. I really want to give this place at least a 4 and I think I just haven't had the best luck.

This is for the food ( my ordered item only). The Appetizer Bruschetta was disgusting! Un Toasted bread completely drenched by the marinated tomatoes, with an almost complete lack of cheese. If there was olive oil somewhere in it it was overwhelmed by the vinegary bitterness. Yuck!

A planetside setting for every dining occasion. Seriously. Cute lunch date? Sit at a patio table surrounded by flowers. Lab social (yes, those two words DO go together)? Grab a table upstairs and bring on the appetizers. Surprise birthday? Under the light-strung trellises. I wasn't sure what to think of Jupiter my first time here, but it's definitely grown on me because of the versatility and heartiness of the food. I never get overly full because of the thin-crust pizza, but I can count on satisfying any cravings I have with the Spinach and Artichoke Dip or Chicken Wings. Pizzas sometimes arrive a little burnt, but I cut them some slack because of how many they're loading and unloading at a time. Jupiter's population: maximum capacity + 10. You have to raise your voice if you're sitting inside, but I make it a point to try and sit outside and avoid the stickier tables. Sometimes they'll have a DJ outside too, although the music is... unique, if you catch my drift. On my last visit, the wonderful Kadie took care of our group of 12 people with patience and grace. My table split a Golden Watermelon and Goat Cheese appetizer (eh), plus the daily special pizza (CORN??), a Cassiopea, and Xanthea. If you don't mind cilantro, you NEED to get the Jalapeno Salsa sauce to dip your pizza in. When we asked what was in it, Kadie rattled off some 8+ ingredients. All in that little sauce cup. If it's your birthday, you have the honor of challenging your server to the Jupiter beer challenge. They'll bring out two half-pints of beer (mine was a delicious stout) and explain the rules. If you guzzle faster than your challenger, you get a pint of your choice on the house! Being a swift drinker must be one of the pre-requisites to working here, but although I narrowly lost to Kadie, she said it was too close and let me have my Honey Wheat. I'm a darker beer fan though, so probably should have gone with the stout. The non-alcoholic beer and fruit ciders are bleh though, stick with the craft beers. After a trip to the dim bathroom in the alleyway of Jupiter, filled with cheesy space-themed stickers, Kadie took pictures for our large group and was somehow still grinning through the hectic hubbub of diners. We learned that Jupiter is designed pretty much with just enough empty space between tables to allow the servers to zip around, not for group pictures.

Jupiter is a great spot to kick back and enjoy pizza and beers. Ample seating for groups or pairs. I've been three times and will be going back again and again. The pizzas all have excellent toppings. The garlic fries are delicious and covered with so many cloves I have to restrain myself. But what really makes this place a favorite is the service, I've never felt rushed sipping beers and enjoying the assortment of live music. Top that off with a guest beer list that keeps me wanting to order and order and order. Do yourself a favor and go to Jupiter when you don't have to bother driving.

Jupiter is a casual pizza eatery in downtown Berkeley. It's known for its huge back patio with fire pit, Adirondack chairs and outdoor fireplaces. If you enjoy beer, check out their extensive tap selection and house custom brews, made by Drake's Brewing of San Leandro. Jupiter's Shattuck location, in a 120-year-old brick buiding, is ideal for walking around the University/Telegraph community. Jupiter's menu is a classic fill-me-up-I-live-in-a-college-town fare. The pizzas are solid and fairly priced - a 9 inch from $8, and 13-inch'ers from $13-17. There's an $8 fondue appetizer that's ...err... sub-par. Other items include $7.95 garlic chicken wings, $11.95 lamb skewers and $7.50/9.50 beet salad. Items can be vegan and/or gluten-free. We enjoyed the Quasar double DIPA, a Drakes-brewed house ale that's $6.50 for 20 ounce Imperial pint that is filled to the brim. We're talking 8.8 ABV and 80 IBU here...that's an amazing price. Jupiter pours their house pilsner, lager, honey wheat, amber ale, red spot ale, porter and more. And with another two dozen guest brews on tap, chances are they'll be pouring one of your favorites, or something you haven't yet tasted. But what I like best about Jupiter is the multilevel back patio on a warm, sunny day. Come for the beer, stay for the sunburn! The down & dirty: Food - 3+ - It's good...but that fondue appetizer needs improvement! Service - 3 - They're well organized but weekend service can be slow. Value - 5 - Good food, great beers in a million dollar spot! Setting - 5 - After dinner, enjoy walking this awesome town! Date worthy - 5 (on the patio, sunny day). Dogs - nope. Original review below: I like the vibe of this spot! Great place to take a date or even feed the kids. The back patio is a la Hog's Breath Inn: firepits and an old European feel. The patio has several levels. At the uppermost, you'll find Adirondack chairs that are a great place to hang out when it's sunny - with a brew in hand. The tap pours, BTW, are all 20-oz which is very fair for the price. Anyway, great brews on tap - belly-filling food to match. Ride on in and order up!

Live music during the summer nights, great outdoor atmosphere, yummy salads & pizza, and good service. The biggest downside to this otherwise perfect experience is that it's self-seating. Given it's popularity it's usually packed during the evening and patrons often have to compete with other patrons for seating. This makes seating like a lottery system, if you happen to be standing in the right place then you might be lucky to get a table that is just becoming available. Conversely, if you have been waiting for 40 min. and someone who just came in from the other entrance happens to stumble upon a party that is starting to leave, then it's a lost opportunity. It's very uncomfortable having to hover over someone's table as you protect you "turf" against other patrons eagerly seeking a table.

So I came across here confusing it with a bar.. Smh then I read yelp again and it said pub ok we are here and was seated don't want to leave. So we decided to get something small and he got a beer. Two different types of bread with cheese fondue. I thought I was getting the pot of cheese and sticks the whole shabang but I didn't and had to dip with my hands. It was a cheesy fondue that I fell in love with. Wasn't all saucy like I had before elsewhere. Once like warm or cold it isn't very friendly anymore so kinda hurry lol. The place is dimly lit and alittle tight seating I'm sure the people next to us was listening to our interesting conversation lol oh well. Newho the bad for the star missing. There is one person who takes your order and brings the food!! One for a number of tables!! And another lady was walking around to clean tables only one. So a little wait is expected. Chill out it's decent here.

Went to this establishment to meet a friend, talk and have a beer. Noise Level: Loud, it was difficult to hear. If you want a quiet place to talk, avoid going indoors. Although I am not sure if patio would have been quieter. Service: Our server was very attentive despite being really busy. Food: Although the pizza looked good, I don't know how good they are since we did not have any. So, 3 star because despite the noise, the ambience was pretty good. 3 star is good, I can't give it a 4+ star just for the service.

Good bar food. Great location. Love the outdoor fire pit. Good selection of bands. Horrible service. Don't forget your credit card here; potential huge security risk. It's a good venue for large groups. It's a nice place to come with friends, and usually I am too buzzed to notice their lackluster service. Their service is usually just meh even if it's just simple ordering and eating. They do what they have to and nothing more, which I usually don't mind, but the air of pretension is quite annoying. I lost my credit card at their restaurant. Called them and asked whether they found a lost credit card to have them reply unhelpfully, "We find a lot of lost credit cards." I asked them if they can verify whether my card was in their possession with my credit card number and they just told me bluntly I have to come down to the restaurant because no employee there has time to do that. And then they hung up. Seems like the guy on the phone was dying to hang up as soon as he can. I had my friend go down to check if I have indeed lost my credit card at their premise (I was already on a plane bound for elsewhere). I gave my friend my identification (my student ID) in case he did find my credit card and so he can grab it for me. It turns out they didn't even need to see any identification before they release someone's credit card to a stranger. In fact, I think they just gave my friend a stack of lost credit cards (to be fair to them, they did have a lot of lost credit cards) to sift though and he just took mine. A few weeks later, Chase informs me about a suspicious charge on that exact credit card. Someone took hold of my credit card information and tried to buy something online. Well, I don't think it's a scam by Jupiter's, but I suspect their lax security on other people's lost credit card enable someone else to grab a hold of my credit card information (and who knows? maybe other people's as well) and misuse that information. Other than this incident, as a patron for several years, I'm also pretty fed up with their "I don't give a crap about you as a customer because we have lots of other customers, so just order, eat, drink, and get out of here" attitude. They are lucky they have such a good location in a college urban town. However, good food is plentiful in Berkeley; better bars as well.

Stopped by on a Saturday night for dinner. The atmosphere was hip and loud. We were seated right away and ordered the Garlic Chicken Wings and Bruschetta. We also ordered their Stout and IPA, which came out quickly. The Stout was awesome-creamy/smooth flavor, one of the best I've had! I didn't try the IPA. The Garlic Chicken Wings were very odd. I'm used to Buffalo Wings, and these were very different-I wouldn't order them again. Although, the sauce they came with was delicious! We also enjoyed the Bruschetta, quite tasty! Based upon reviews, we ordered the Xanthia pizza for our entrée. The waitress said it would take 45 minutes, so she gave us fair warning. It seemed like it came out much quicker! I also ordered a Porter since the Stout was so good. The Porter was equally as good, I wish I could have ordered another but I was getting more drunk than buzzed! With the Xanthia pizza, I thought potatoes would add extra flair, but they didn't. I didn't taste the ricotta cheese-seems like the flavors weren't there (I did order without bacon, so maybe that screwed it up). We dipped the pizza in Garlic Chicken Wing sauce, adding intense flavor! The service was slow, it took us about 15 minutes to get the check and pay. I would definitely go back for the beer and give the pizza another shot.

I've been here twice now and have enjoyed both visits thoroughly! Friends and I wanted to have a girls night and chose Jupiter for it's convenient location and great atmosphere. Also, pizza + beer, what could be a more perfect choice for this occasion on a Friday night? ;) SETTING -Right next to the Downtown Berkeley bart station! and in the heart of downtown -lively, bright-lit, college town. -Jupiter itself has a dark, European styled, candle-light ambiance with holiday lights strung on the ceiling for decor - romaannticc! -During busy nights (ie - Friday nights ~7pm) things can get REALLY crowded. We were a party of 5 so our wait was about ~25 to 30 minutes just to get a table. -Open seating in the patio area, otherwise you can put your name on the list for the next open table -They have 2 floors for seating area. I prefer the upper floor since it's a little bit removed from the busyness, but still crowded. FOOD -Artichoke and Spinach Dip. Loved that it comes with focaccia and sourdough bread! The spreadable dip was creamy and delicious. Great appetizer while you're waiting for your pizza to bake! -Eutropia Pizza. Mmmeaty + Saucey... if that's how you love your pizza, then this is what you need to order. Lots and lots of toppings - pepperoni, sausage, onions, marinara sauce. -Triton Pizza. Love!! The Triton pizza was thinner than the Eutropia, but the taste and texture of this thin crusted pizza won my vote for favorite pizza that night. Deliciously sweet onions, basil, mozzarella, and sausage. -Galileo Pizza. Lots of veggies - tomatoes, artichoke, spinach, and mushrooms. The artichokes had a sour taste which I wasn't a huge fan of. Still a great pizza though! -Honey Wheat Beer had the perfect hint of sweetness to compliment the salty/savory flavors from the pizza! PROS -Delicious pizzas are definitely worth the wait. You won't be disappointed. -Beer + cider selection - Pomegranate Cider is also a favorite! -Great service! Our waiter was super hip and friendly. -Paying with several credit cards was not a problem ;) CONS -Waiting to get a table during busy hours.... but hey, by the end of your meal you'll be so happily full you ain't even gonna be mad 'bout it no mo.

I want to give this place 4 stars, but I'm gonna give back that 5th star because my reason for taking it away is pretty unfair: why are all your servers and bartenders so damn good looking? You'd think that would be a reason to GIVE a star but oh no. Normal people tip their servers/bartenders based on good service but I'm weak for a scruffy beard and a tousled combover so naturally I tipped out the ass. You hit my sweet spot, Jupiter. Touche.... Touche. Other than that, I came with some friends and the vibe here was great! Very chill, no obnoxious drunk people (or not many) ruining my date with the very smooth and yummy porter I tried (DELICIOUS BTW). And the pizza was so. Damn. Good! The decor was great too. I got a rustic/hipster/Doc martens, jeans and a beanie vibe. I am coming back. Yes. Yes I am.

I was checking out bars in Berkeley the other night and I stumbled upon this one; I have to say its probably one of my favorites in Berkeley. The beer and pizza are awesome, the bartenders are cool and its a great place to meet people and have a good time. If noise doesn't bother you, definitely stop on by if you are in the Bay Area.

Loud. Dingy, in the best ways. Good beer. Nice waitresses, though they take a while. Delicious, though not completely gluttonous pizza. Seems to be a good date place for hippie crunchy cycling gay men.

When a restaurant has over 2300 reviews and an average of 4 stars, I kind of feel like there's little point to adding another 4-star review, but here I am. I went to Jupiter with my boyfriend and a good friend of ours this past Saturday evening. Our friend had been there before for just drinks so dinner was new to all of us. It's an interesting setup: if you want to sit inside, you wait for a host to seat you, but to sit outside, where the live music is, you find your own seating - on a busy night you stand around like a vulture, waiting for someone to leave. You can scope out a table who's finished and politely ask them if you can swoop when they leave, but where's the fun in that? We didn't have to wait long for a table, but we were rather ruthless in swooping (sorry to the two dudes we beat to the table, better luck next time). However, with it being so busy, it did take a pretty long time to get everything else involved with the meal going. It definitely wasn't a problem since we hadn't seen our friend in months and had tons to catch up on, but by the time we ate, we were pretty ravenous. I don't drink, by the others at the table got two beers each and were, as far as I know, really pleased with their choices. I got the beer cheese fondue for an appetizer and ate it all. Seriously, the entire ramekin. I didn't eat all the bread because I gooped on a ridiculous amount of fondue onto each bite, but man was this stuff delicious. Our friend got the spinach and artichoke dip and I was kind of disappointed in it. It was cold and more fluffy than creamy. The flavor was good, but it didn't have that warm, creamy, greasy feel that good spinach and artichoke dip has. For my entree, I got the salmon salad. It was pretty good. I'm not a fan of my salmon being already all shredded, since then the bites are too small to pick up with the fork. I like salmon and I like pieces bigger than a kernel of corn. The salad itself and the dressing were pretty tasty though. I don't know if I'd order this again, and it paled in comparison to the fondue, but it was a nice light meal. This place is pretty fun. The live music isn't really my thing, it's too loud for me, but when you don't want to wait to get seated inside, it's the price you pay. The outside is really nice though, with foliage all over and cobblestone paths and whatnot. Overall, the fondue and the fact that the rest of the crew really dug their food makes this place get 4 stars. I definitely won't become a regular, but if someone suggests coming here again, I won't argue.

Ok so I went here yesterday hoping to have better experience than last time, but nooo. My friend and I both ordered pizzas (Circe is my FAVORITEEEE! Which is why I keep coming back.) Any how, 20 minutes passed by and I got my pizza, my delicious pizza, I nearly finished half of my pizza before realizing my friend didn't get his. Meanwhile, three tables after us got their pizzas. We continued to wait, and wait, then when we were told that someone was checking on it, we decided to just ask for it in a to go box. We didn't even get an apology from our waiter, it was a great dinner gone wrong. And then when they bring the check they want to be all nice. The pizza really deserves 5-stars. Will I come back? Well... yes, just for Circe, and probably order for takeout this time.

I came to Jupiter in search of a post rugby drink and snack. The dingy interior contrasts well with sunny beer garden. The best part of the bar is the beer garden which basks in the afternoon sun. I found the service at the bar a little slow but later realised that the place was well served by waiting staff who would come round to each table.

Good pizza and beer. But slightly over priced. Can we do something about the Southwest Airlines style seating? I don't want to wander around for 20 minutes looking for a spot! And I feel like if you are a waiter here, you struck gold because you don't have to do shit!

I've been to Jupiter twice and have had a great experience both times. I went during the day and it was open seating. The first time I went I was seated inside. The atmosphere was nice for catching up with an old friend. It had a kind of "tavern" feel like in the movies. The second time I went I sat outside on the patio which was great for enjoying the perfect Berkeley weather. I have still yet to try something off of their long list of beers, but both times, I've had pizza which has been delicious. I would definitely recommend coming here to catch up with friends or just looking for a nice spot for lunch.

I love their courtyard, the atmosphere it's so relaxing... also with live music... It's a nice way to spend the afternoon if the weather is right... The food is good, not exactly very impressive, but reasonably priced. All tables are self-seating, so, if you spot people leaving a table, u better rush there fast. Servers will come serve you once u seated at a table... but sometimes they are hard to catch...

Cool place, good food but a bit overpriced for the portions. Garlic chicken wings appetizers - very tasty and well cooked. Circe- shrimp perfectly cooked but rather sparse nice buttery slightly salty cheese Cassiopeia- Mild BBQ sauce. Ckn not dry, but not juicy, love the fresh cilantro Large is only 13" maybe 2 ppl. Comes fast though!

Great food and environment. It's definitely a popular place. Going alone for a meal late at night though I wouldn't recommend unless you're willing to wait. The demand on the staff works great with a group of friends to pass the time. It's more of a social environment, it just happens to have tasty food and drinks available. The outdoor area is amazing as well and has a nice fire pit.

It pains me to give Jupiter a one star because I used to love this place but this past weekend a saw a humungous rat running around the outside area. I understand that the area may be bringing the rats in and not the actual restaurant kitchen but this is a serious health problem that needs to be addressed. This happened smack-dab right in the middle of dinner.

I do miss being walking distance from here, but I'm still a short BART or car-ride away. Amazing beer, decent wine selection, quality bar food and fantastic pizza. The ambiance is my favorite part of this place. All wood indoors and it's 2 floors. Outside there is live music and a fire pit. This place can be a bit much to handle when very crowded, but when the students are on break and Berkeley is quiet, I love going here with my friends. They are also super accommodating if you want to do anything with a larger group. You just need to give them the heads up. Surprise parties for the win.

    1. Eat outside. Beautiful fire pit creates a cool ambiance and sets a really chill atmosphere. The whole place gives off a very classy vibe. 2. I'm a pizza lover and I have to say... their pizza is so delicious. (Cassiopeia) 3. Good beer selection. 4. I am definitely going to come back. 5. I was very pleased with the service as well as my meal.

Great place to grab drinks with friends. Very nice casual ambiance and the beer was very tasty. It was very crowded so we couldn't find seating. The beer garden in back was nice with the lights and open air. I had an unremarkable appetizer.

I came to celebrate my 21st bday here with my family and friends. I thought this place was the bomb.com because it always looks very crowded. Honestly, the food and drinks were great but the server we had was very rude. There were about 10 of us and the server gave us plastic cups and i thought it was very rude. We came to eat and drink and he should at least give us regular cups. Not plastic cups. I was very disappointed and i felt like we weren't treated the same us other customers.

Sat down, ordered 2 small pizzas, waited 50+ minutes for our food, gave up and left. No pizza should ever take that long. Not even the deepest of deep dish. The service did nothing to offset the ridiculous wait time.

  • Abner M.

Always a good experience! The staff usually leaves you to your party until they see your glass near empty; don't mistake this for bad service though, as the people who frequent Jupiter are so busy socializing that you're not, just sitting there quiet and waiting. The staff is friendly and helpful. My absolute favorite thing here is the garlic bread becomes it comes with roasted garlic bulbs cut in half. There is always enough to spread on the bread and have tons leftover to spread on your pizza. The live music is great, usually on weekends (Fridays too?) Anyway, always a good experience.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century.
