The food here is bland, but it's fairly cheap and not greasy. The green curry chicken and yellow curry chicken taste good and come with a nice portion size for lunch. If you're getting the lunch special, then the red rice tastes pretty good, but I thought it was not really worth the extra money. Things I stay away from: the basil chicken didn't really taste like basil and lacked flavor in general. I ordered the eggplant tofu once, and the eggplant was undercooked. What I really like about Jasmine Thai is that, like some of the other restaurants around Euclid, they provide large trays of food for nearby events on campus. It's very easy to get vegetarian options (green/yellow curry tofu) and even vegan options (pad thai without egg). They also provide free rice and utensils.

I ordered the Pad Khee Mao (their menu omits the Pad) When I got home I was excited to dive in but when I opened the take out box it was not the same recipe I was accustomed to. I even took the time to look up the recipe on the Internet to find out if I was right or wrong. Well sadly, I was right. No chili, little basil. Full disclosure, it was still edible and not bad (not great either.) I also treated myself to a Thai iced tea. $3 for 16 ounces. That is a ridiculous price. It is also impossible to sit on the stool lining the right side without blocking the entrance (or no one can get to the back)

Jasmine Thai is probably my favorite Thai restaurant in Berkeley! It's a very small hole-in-the-wall restaurant that is definitely underrated. It's SOO GOOD! I always crave their Panang Beef Curry.. mmm The food is delicious! It really gives you a home-cooked-meal kind of feeling. The food is high quality and tasty WITHOUT being overly greasy and salty like all the other fast food Thai restaurants around campus (ie Thai Basil, Bangkok, Thai Noodle...etc). My boyfriend and I finally decided to try Jasmine Thai during our senior year and we loved it. Unfortunately we didn't discover this place until our last year of college : ( We occasionally make a trip to Berkeley to eat Jasmine Thai. I usually order Panang Beef Curry and my bf usually orders the Chicken Pumpkin Curry. The panang beef curry has a generous amount of tender slow cooked beef and bamboo and it has just has perfect balance between sweetness and savoriness. The chicken pumpkin curry comes with white meat chicken and an assortment of vegetables and is a little bit more sweeter than the panang curry. Both are yummy! I have yet to try the other dishes they have, but I can vouch that their curries are delicious! If you go during a weekday for lunch, they have a really great lunch special. It's a great place to get quick, tasty, somewhat healthy (it's not overly oily, greasy, and salty like other Thai restaurants), and authentic Thai food. The restaurant itself is very small and has limited seating, but you always have the option of ordering to-go and taking your food on campus to eat! It's located on Euclid right next door to Brewed Awakening Coffee! And lastly, the owners and staff are incredibly friendly and sweet. We always have a great dining experience at Jasmine Thai. Give it a try! : ))

This place is super underrated but it has way better food than most Thai places on Southside! It's a super hole-in-the-wall restaurant but my experience has always been on point. (IT'S NOT IN NORTH SIDE ASIAN GHETTO). I think most people don't know about this place because it's further up Euclid instead of in the North Side Asian Ghetto. It gets surprisingly crowded around lunchtime. A+ for having seating inside! (There's about 10ish tables or so because the place is still pretty small.) & THEY ACCEPT CREDIT CARD. All of the Asian restaurants in NS Asian Ghetto is cash only, which can be pretty frustrating around lunchtime if you don't have cash on you! (+) Garlic Shrimp and Artichoke! Better than most shrimp stir-fry dishes out there! (And better than Camille down the street IMO). The sauce wasn't as spicy as I would have liked but the overall dish was delicious. Yum! Will definitely come back to try more of their lunch dishes. (+) Tom Yum Noodle Soup! My favorite Tom Yum noodle soup out of all the Thai places I've tried in Berkeley! The soup is sweeter than it should be but there's a real authentic flavor to it that most other places don't have. I like how it's thin noodles instead of big flat noodles (which can be too much sometimes). They're pretty generous with their seafood and the mushroom adds a nice touch to it! (+) They have their lunch specials (rice + any type of combos available ). It's super quick and easy if you're in a hurry! They have food prepared already and you can choose any of the dishes + rice for about $7-$8! (They have Pad Thai, Curry Tofu, Pork & Eggplant, etc...) Will come back in the future to take a picture of this! (-) Meh, don't get the pad thai. Totally not worth the money. It was flavorful but it was lacking what a regular pad thai should taste like. The noodles were still super clear (where's the sauce?) and the tofu was dry and unflavorful. The portion was relatively big but they would have lost a star if I had try this dish before all of the other ones.... Also, I love how they're vegetarian and vegan friendly. The menu is big and easy to see when you enter! More points for having a lot of options for all types of food lovers. The only reason they lost a star is how clean the place is. It's a pretty run down place and pretty dark inside. The tables are always sticky to me and the place personally doesn't scream "CLEAN" when I'm in there. But besides from that, the food is bomb.com so it's worth it!

IMPORTANT INFO FOR VEGETARIANS: This place considers both seafood and chicken to be vegetarian. If you are looking for something that has neither (in other words a true vegetarian dish), you have to go Vegan. The guy didn't tell me about their unusual definition of vegetarian until after he already served me the food. That being said, the food isn't that great. There are a lot of way better Thai places that are about the same price within a few blocks. I'd go to one of those. I got the eggplant tofu (which btw has oyster sauce and some other seafood stuff in it), and green curry (vegan) with red rice. The red rice might have been the best thing about the whole dish... Definitely do not plan to go back.

  • Amy E.

I had never eaten here before during my time at Cal. It was okay. Probably a decent place to get takeout and has a lot of vegan options. It's small, its kind of dirty. They pour tap water under the filter for the "filtered" water. I probably wouldn't go back.

  • Wendy C.

Kind of expensive and not that good. I had the lunch special though- so maybe that's why. The lunch special at Thai Basil is WAY better and almost $3 less expensive. I was hungry, so I wolfed down their green curry- that was actually pretty good. The eggplant, though, was not. I love eggplant- but there was just no flavor to this eggplant so I found it hard to enjoy even in my hunger. I wouldn't come here unless you have a major craving for Thai and you're stuck on North side for the day.

  • Jing X.

The food tasted over heavy and felt like that they added a lot of artificial flavor to hide the actual freshness of the meat and vegetables...

  • Richie Z.

I come here all the time since it's the only good Thai food restaurant on the north side of campus. I almost always get either the Pad Thai or the Pad See-ew. Both a pretty fundamental Thai dishes and Jasmine Thai makes them really well. The Pad See-ew is perfectly done. The Pad Thai is interesting. It doesn't have the redness that you usually see in Pad Thai, but is still really good and has a nice sweetness to it. I've also tried the lunch special a few times. Pretty good deal and they serve you really fast.

    (4)
  • Hina S.

I don't know what to rate thing place because I come here all the time, and I am bound to come here all the time since I spend a lot of time in north side and I need Thai food. All the time. I usually get pad kee Mao or pad see ew. Both are pretty decent, light and delicate flavoring, good serving... It's a little bit too sweet and sometimes makes me feel gross after eating. Recently I tried prawns and eggplant. Good flavoring, but definitely prefer Thai basils basil eggplant dish-- the eggplants didn't have the flavor absorbed and it was kind of bad....

    (3)
  • Allan P.

pretty bad service. pretty terrible food.

    (2)
  • Lily L.

The Pad Thai was terrible and pricey. I mean if you're a thai restaurant, shouldn't you at least get that right. With the addition of chicken, the Pad Thai came out to be $9 and there was no sauce, no veggies except bean sprouts. The chicken tasted like someone literally just dumped them in hot water and sprinkled them on top of the noodles. Their lunch special seems ok but it's just your average chinese buffet looking thing. I came here for thai food and was severely disappointed.

    (2)
  • Christina Y.

I always just got the lunch combo from here. They have been resizing the togo box, which makes the portion smaller now but with the same price. I probably won't go back anymore just cuz the portion is not good compared to the given price The eggplant was really watery but the pumpkin curry chicken was good. I always get the thai red rice, which is pretty healthy. If you go, try to avoid exactly lunch hour since the line is super long.

    (2)
  • Linda L.

As a vegan, I appreciate they they can make me pad-see-ew, pad-thai, and other dishes for me (they are actually on the menu, I don't need to special order). There are also two curries (yellow and green) that I can grab for the lunch combo. I used to love it here because I don't like very salty or oily food; recently their food seems to be saltier and more oily (but they aren't as salty or oily as other thai options), which is a bummer for me. Also, I would be happy to pay around $5-6 for the food, but they change more (~$8), which is a bummer, but it's convenient to where I work, so I put up with it.

    (3)
  • C C.

There's always a line out the door at Jasmine Thai! So of course I think I must go there too! Sometimes it doesn't seem like the line ever goes down. But finally there were only 5 people in line, so I decided to see what it was all about. The lunch special seems to be a good deal. They have quite a variety and veggie friendly too. I tried the pad thai noodles and the pumpkin chicken curry. I love thai food and can eat it quite often, but on the day of the food was just ok. It just needed more flavor and spice.

    (3)
  • Shawn S.

No. Just No. There are, unfortunately, barely any options for food on the north side of campus and this place is definitely NOT the place to go. I suggest you go to more cleaner places for your lunch. The prices they charge here are typical of thai places, except inferior quality and horrible atmosphere. The place looked so sad and gloomy I just couldn't stand but sit there for more than 5 minutes. This place definitely needs more cheerful service, remodeling, and invest in making the restaurant more appealing to customers and less sad looking. There are no other thai places on this side so I suggest you skip out on a thai experience and go somewhere else.

  • Jerome T.

My desk being on the North side of campus, Jasmine Thai has become my go-to place for a quick lunch around campus. I usually order the lunch special for $7-9, which includes white or (healthier) red rice plus a choice of 1, 2, or 3 items between 6 to 7 items (green/yellow/red curry, son-in-law eggs, eggplant-tofu, pad thai). I find all of these combos pretty yummy. While the place is small and modest, and can get very crowded during lunch break, the service is always quick even at peak times, the staff is friendly, and the food is tasty. Jasmine Thai is also among the healthier options on Euclid.

    (4)
  • Mathias P.

Great food for a reasonable price. I usually go here for lunch and take the two items combo (Green curry - love it! and some vegetarian side disch). They have both vegetarian and meat dishes for you to choose from the lunch buffet. Prices are a bit high at 8.60 (including tax) for the two-item combo but the food is super tasty! The seating area is kind of small but up to now we always found a place to eat in.

  • Jeff B.

Everyone who reviews this restaurant is pretending to be some sort of snooty, pretentious foodie who knows all about Thai food, as if they grew up in the Bangkok hood and were in the Hangover part 2 when Stu gets that tattoo on his face and bones with that shemale.. With that said, come here for lunch! This was one of the first Thai restaurants that I have ever gallivanted to, now that I attend UC-Berkeley. Nonetheless, this place is on point. I ordered the three-item lunch combo (actually four items because I had originally wanted pad thai as one of my 3 items, but since it wasn't ready yet at 11am, I got the eggplant tofu as my third item--then they brought out the pad thai so I asked that dude to put some of dat jaunt on my plate and I'll pay you an extra dolla dolla bill for the fourth item). I also got the basil chicken and pumpkin curry chicken. The food itself was good. Not everything was as spicy as advertised (namely the basil chicken). Nonetheless, the basil chicken was spicy, just not *hot* spicy. The seating area is sort of cramped, but that is precisely why you ought to come here at 11am!

  • Ken W.

The food is just not good at all. I had a curry chicken and the curry was horrible. Size is big and price is low but the taste is far far far away from good. Wouldn't recommend at all

  • Victor G.

Jasmine has a regular menu but i lacked the coins in the meter so i got take out. eats: 2 item lunch(7.91) -panang beef and basil chicken flavors were subtle, not vibrant on your tongue spicy. beef chewy, chicken tender, , lots of bamboo, a bit of flavorful sauce. -lots of rice. 3.5 stars for good value crumbs: -fast, friendly service -many tables for sitdown.

This place is starting to become my favorite Asian restaurant on Northside. It's pretty good thai food at a decent price. Of all the thai places that I've been to in Berkeley and I've been to A LOT (Chris Thai, Thai Noodle, Tuk Tuk Thai, Toss, Bangkok Thai, Berkeley Thai House, Gecko Gecko Thai, Thai Basil, Lucky House Thai, and probably more), I would say that this place gives me several reasons to keep coming back. 1. Their food is good and not very greasy. The greasy part is big for me because there are some thai restaurants I like in Berkeley that I still shy away from sometime because of the pool of oil at the bottom of my dishes. 2. They can get you your food quickly*. The star is because it depends on what you order and the time of the day. If you want to sit down, you do have to order and wait for your food. However, they are pretty quick about getting their orders out. If you want food quick, get their one-, two-, or three-item combo. All the food is pre-cooked so you can get your order in less than five minutes. However, if it's peak lunch hour, you can expect to wait a bit depending on how long the line is. 3. I really like their one-,two-, or three-item combo. I like having choices and I like mixing them up too. My favorites are probably the vegetable pad-thai, basil chicken, and tofu with string bings. The food portions they give are also pretty generous. Overall, I would say the lace is pretty good and worth a visit if you have not tried it before!

Jasmine Thai is GREAT! I've had several large dinners from there and they are absolutely wonderful! I'm quite impressed with their PadThai shrimp, it is really good and everyone seems to love it.

  • Genny C.

When I crave for quick, hot Asian food, and I'm around the area, Jasmine Thai comes to mind. It's true that their lunches are on the more expensive slide - I believe that a plate with two dishes costs around $8.5 - not cheap considering it's a college town. However, the dishes are really tasty! I have always gotten their beef with potato slices dish and son-in-law eggs. Especially impressed with the eggs - they are crispy on the outside, with the yolk slightly runny. Yum. Give it a try if you're around the area - just keep in mind they have very limited number of seats, so you might want to do take-out instead.

Oh Northside ghetto. Like everything in this plaza, the restaurant is not as good as it's big brother in the Asian ghetto on south side. I guess this would be the equivalent of Thai basil. The food is not bad, but it's not great. It's cheap, but not worth the food you pay for.

I can't believe this used to be a Quizno's. I mean, I ate at the Quizno's and I was sad that Subway survived instead of Quizno's. Now that I've purged the sandwich shop out of my vision of what this space should be: I'm in love. The dining area is sparse, yet elegant. It has proper table service. The menu is huge considering the size of the kitchen. I've only had takeout so far and it was tasty and a good value compared to other offerings within walking distance. Also a prime lunch order only took about 10 minutes from ordering to paying to carrying out. Friendly and efficient service. One star off because I wasn't given the option to customize the spiciness of the curry I ordered (I likes it hot!) but I am happy to say it didn't come out gringo mild. They also packed the steamed rice in the same box as the cold salad. The curry was packaged separately. I walked a block and a half back to the office and the salad was already wilted. Not a big deal. I'll still go back.

Maybe it is better for lunch? Went to Jasmine Thai with some friends for a late-night dinner. I was starving and even then the food still seemed a bit disappointing. We ordered the crab meet noodles, the pad see ew noodles, and the eggplant tofu. The crab noodles were one of the daily specials, and they were a decent dish. They had real crab meet and a tasty sweet house sauce. Unfortunately, the portion was not too big and they were devoured quickly by the group. The egg plant tofu was also good. It was spicy and seasoned with Thai basil. The big disappointment was the pad see ew. The noodles were dry and mushy/ They were clearly not made fresh and just reheated from earlier in the day. Every Thai restaurant should always deliver on the stapes, and this dish was a huge miss. The restaurant was empty, so service was fast. (Probably too fast because it resulted in reheated noodles) Maybe if you come by at lunch you will get fresh ones. There are only a couple of Thai places on northeast campus, so you might have to eat here to satisfy your craving. You might get a satisfying dish or you might get a dud.

Just went here for dinner. it was a great experience. :) Ordered the Panang Beef Curry and Ginger Tea. The curry came fast and was very filling. It had a savory flavor that went well with the white rice. The tea comes in its own pot and fills exactly two cups, which is nice if you're eating with a friend. I totally recommend it if you're northside.

Summary based on 1 lunch: --My standard test lunch for dining solo of Tom Yum noodle soup wasn't that great. It did have scallops, rarely seen, but no ground pork, no bean sprouts, no coriander. No discernible citrus. --service just ok --Restaurant was cold. Waitress said there was no heat. --Pricey. Paid $11 with tip for what's usually around $9 --Parking limited without a UC parking pass. If you have one there's a huge lot nearby. --rest room was better than average --ad supported free wifi didn't work out --seating area not that large. Probably not suitable for groups.

Expensive. $9 for Pad Thai with prawns. This is a pretty standard dish; anything above $7 is unreasonable, especially for low-quality ingredients.

Nice place for lunch. 2 items deal is good - also superfast. For dinner, its a bit pricey but arguably one of the few healthy food places on euclid. For six years, I have mostly ordered for take-out here but staff are quite friendly. The place is small but usually quite. Comparing with all other places on Euclid, I give them credits for mainly two things: being superfast at lunch as well as serving reasonably okay thai food. They sure are priced a bit high.

Really yummy and really fast! For a quick lunch that is healthy, fresh and tasty, I'd recommend this place. The prices are a bit high (7-8 clams for lunch) but I feel that you get what you pay for. It's delicious and doesn't give you a grease-coma. I've ordered the green curry with chicken and the yellow curry with chicken. PERFECT portion sizes. Not too much, not too little -- I always finish everything on my plate and feel perfectly full. They also provide red rice, which is extremely tasty and appears to be whole grain. The vegetables are fresh, and when you sit inside you can see down into the kitchen that prepares the food -- a very clean and cheery place! Note: I would recommend dining in -- this ensures you get the fresh stuff. They have a little to-go area in the front, but I think those items are microwaved for speed. If you sit inside, the food comes out pretty quickly and it's really fresh.

I've only been here once, and I don't think I'll be back again The Pad Thai tasted like soy sauce noodles, and I had to try to take bites just to get it down. The Thai tea was good, but how do you mess that up? Honestly for that amount of money, I would have rather went to La Val's or something to get a few slices.

Lunch combo not too bad, $7-9 depending on one-three item combo. I ordered from the warming table and they had a pretty good selection. Had the green curry chicken and basil chicken with red rice. All items were good enough, not spectacular. I wanted to try the wild salmon curry but you had to order it and I wasn't sure how long it would take. I got there around 11:20 ish and it was already starting to fill up. Be sure to get here before noon to get a table. However, it was high turnover and we were done by 12:30. The line out the door was about 10 people though. I will definitely try it again when I'm in the area.

A thai place that doesn't serve duck??? I was so sad! I got the Basil chicken instead which was still tasty, but so not what I was in the mood for :( If only I wasn't there in a group...I could have gone elsewhere.

The entree menu is quite repetitive-I came here 3-4 times on random occasions and remembered seeing the same entrees every time. I will let the statistics speak for itself. The quality of the food was ok, but the tastes was not up to my Thai standard..i.e. the dishes definitely lack Thai characteristics. For example, the level of the spiciness and the taste was way off and the texture of the curry was not quite right. However, I had to admit that they had good brown rice. Thai iced tea, bun, or anything else that was not entree were not great and tasted really bland. Don't waste your money on it.

Been her a few timed over the years. It was around the corner from where I lived and the food and price is comparable to the other Thai place around the corner in the Asian Ghetto. While the food isn't spectacular, they do have one item on their lunch menu that I always have to get when I'm here, and that is the son-in-law egg. It's basically fried hard boiled eggs with tofu and a tamarind sauce over rice. If it wasn't for this dish, I'd be giving this place two stars. When I'm here for dinner I usually opt for the BBQ chicken (it's not really BBQ chicken, they really should think of a different name for it, like Thai Chicken or something). If you like rice, the upgrade to the sticky rice. It's worth the extra money. Bottom line, I'd would only go here if I was craving some Thai but was too lazy to walk down to Shattuck, where the better Thai restaurants are

WOW Food so ridiculously terrible I am completely amazed that this place is still open. This will be your cup of tea if you like food that looks and tastes like it was made yesterday and left out overnight. I was embarrassed to be seen walking out of this place, disgusted at myself for even trying two bites of the crusty, atrocious noodles, and ultimately regretting that I didn't try to get my money back. It's one thing to have a bad meal and decide you're not going back, but its another thing to have it be so bad that you have to go somewhere else to get food you can actually eat.

My go-to place for Thai food during lunch. They have around 9 pre-made trays of food for lunch combos. Dishes start from $6 and go up depending on the number of entrees you choose. I also tried ordering off the dinner menu (during dinnertime) and much preferred the lunch entrees. They handled my catering order for $450 worth of food very professionally. And gave me a free thai iced tea when I placed the order!

Pretty decent selection of precooked trays for daily lunch hour combos. When I was on my vegetarian streak, this was the place to go because they have tasty veggie options. My favorite is the eggplant tofu. Portion size is just enough to fill the average person and not put you over the top. If you're looking for larger potion sizes, go to the Thai place in the northside asian ghetto (They too have a lunch combo special; about the same prices for more food, but slightly inferior in quality). Sometimes there's a long line out the door during those peak lunch hours but it goes fairly fast. Still definitely a quick eats kinda place: Thai on the go!

Food and service is okay. The place is small and tight. I do believe their food has a more Asian taste than other Thai places, so if you want a more Asian Thai place, that would be the place to go. To conclude, this place is okay, not a bad place to go for lunch if you are around the area, but otherwise, go somewhere else.

I love Thai food, and this little hole-in-the-wall is as good as I've found in Berkeley - much better quality and taste than any of the bigger Thai restaurants on Shattuck (avoid Cha-am!). I would rather go to Jasmine Thai than any other place around, simply because nothing beats the flavor when Thai food is done right. Organic thai ice tea with soy milk?? Yes! Vegan green curry with eggplant? My favorite. The pad thai is very good, too, very authentic, not sticky-sweet, actually the pad thai is the best that I've had anywhere. Very nice with a little key lime slice on the side. Vegetarian yellow curry with onions... mmmm..... and tofu with peanut sauce and a big helping of steamed spinach and broccoli. Can you tell I'm a regular? I haven't tried any of their seafood or meat dishes, but those are available as well. At Jasmine Thai the menu items are separated between meat, vegetarian, and vegan. All the vegetables are always very fresh and prepared well, steamed but not overcooked. Each meal comes with choice of white rice or red rice for 50 cents more. The red rice is amazing - hearty, nutritious, and very flavorful - I like the flavor better than brown rice. I also love that there is filtered water, big plus. After you order you go and pick up your own flatware/chopsticks and water, and it always makes me happy to pour myself a glass of filtered water, as most restaurants serve their customers tap water. I can really taste the difference. Prices are very reasonable. Two adult dinners and one thai iced tea to share rings in under $20. Lunch for one is around $6. During the daytime hours, Jasmine Thai has a very fresh buffet where you can order one, two, or three items for a tiered price. At night you can order at the register from their menu, and your food will be served to you at your table. Or you can call in an order ahead of time (or order there to go). It's never taken more than ten minutes for my food - service is usually very prompt. The atmosphere is not such for a hot date, unless you have a cool "Mr. Big showing Carrie the best Chinese food in the city" kind of affair. Not too many tables, mainly college kids ordering take-out and a few sitting and eating meals while they study.

Their fried rice is superior than most other Thai places. Let me be honest, though. Everything is over-priced. You might think it is worth paying as long as it is good, but... Come on. This place is next to Campus and most of their customers are poor students. If you get a basil fried rice with extra rice, (which is not even much more rice than regular) the total is about $9.50 just for a fried rice plate. Regular fried rice is also over $8.00...(At least a dollar or more expensive than most other places) I like that they use paper container for to-go unlike most other places. It is sad that I usually go to Chiang Lai even though I like Jasmine's fried rice better.

Jasmine makes it possible for me to wake up at 12:40, eat a filling and sufficiently exciting meal, and still make it to my 1 o'clock class. For them, I'm going to create a new evaluative point for restaurants; let's call it factor C. And we'll define this factor C thusly: C=(goodness of food on a 1-10 scale) / [(divergence, in feet, from the route I would be walking if I didn't eat anything) x (time it takes, in seconds, to get and pay for food)] - (price of food in USD) It so happens that Jasmine Thai has the highest factor C of any restaurant on earth. Twice or thrice a week, I walk in and utter all of six words (seven if I'm very hungry)... Not one minute later, I'm crossing the street onto the UC campus while shoveling Panang beef into my mouth with a plastic fork. I give them four stars and not five as a result of my best attempts to block out my bias. Factor C aside, Jasmine is good but certainly not the best Thai around, and if I were to move neighborhoods or stop going to school here I would probably return only for sentimental reasons. But for all those who lead UC-centered lives and live on Northside, this place gets an easy five stars. *Recommended items: iced coffee; crab noodles, basil chicken

Wanted: quality Thai food, minus the overdose of MSG/salt enough to put me in a coma. I've been here three times for lunch, all for the quick lunch combo that comes with rice and 1-3 entrees. First try: thought the eggplant tofu was delicious. Portion was big enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day. (Yea, I get full fast.) I was young and naive...might have considered four stars. Second try: had eggplant tofu with some other entree. Again, enough for leftovers for next day's lunch. Felt like a three-star place. Third time's the charm? Methinks not. Going after the lunch rush, I got a better flavor for the place. I didn't get a very pleasant vibe from the staff - they even asked for my flimsy plastic fork back when I sat my to-go order down at a table. This was just really odd. I apparently ordered the bottom of the red rice barrel, and got a disproportionate amount of rice as compared to the eggplant tofu and chicken basil I ordered. The chicken basil had an oddly off-putting aftertaste to it, and the chicken pieces looked like scraps. There was a really weird drain a few feet from our table that spurted an extremely unappealing slosh of water every few minutes...gross. I guess these are the details you don't notice when the place is packed and loud. The last straw was when I had my leftovers for dinner today (stuck at work late), and I felt like I had eaten spoonfuls of salt. About ten gallons of water later, I think two doses of Jasmine Thai is just too much for one day. All this and my wallet was about ten bucks lighter...not worth the quality. Next time I'll go for a healthier sandwich at Stuffed or the other asian offerings at the ghetto.

I could have sworn I wrote a scathing review about this place back in August after getting seriously ill from some food from here. A group in our department had a Friday lunch catered by Jasmine Thai and while the food was tasty, I was laid up on the couch for half the weekend feeling like I had been shot with a tranquilizer dart. NOT that I have first hand experience with that. I'm usually just the one shooting the darts. If by shooting the darts you mean making paper airplanes. I guess in that food-poisioning-induced trance I forgot to spread the word. Some sort of MSG mind trick, I suppose. Many moons having passed since that incident, I decided to give their food another try yesterday. It wasn't exactly worth the money for the hot lunch tray items, unless you think a giant pile of mostly rice is worth $6. And, surprise surprise, I ended up with a terrible headache and felt like not-a-million-bucks the rest of the day. Worst restaurant in the North Gate area by far. Even La Burrita doesn't make me feel ill EVERY time I eat there. As Meatloaf said, "two out of three ain't bad."

I'm not sure if I really want to review this place, or any place on or near the Euclid x Hearst, hence north gate of UC berkeley. I ate here couple of times for lunch. Not bad compared to other food joints in the neighboorhood. I particularly like their thai iced tea. Not too sweet, just right. Lunch combo is a bargain, and I like the fact they serve red rice, as well as white rice. Be aware, if you're not a big eater. One order of lunch combo will last until lunch the next day. Big portion.

Nothing fancy, modest little restaurant. The food was good for the price. The combo special was a good deal. I ordered the pad Thai though, it was ok. The flavor could have been a little bit more intense.

Seeing as I work right next to the Euclid strip, I'm not left with a lot of exciting choices on my lunch break. For this Jasmine gets points just for being a non-sandwich place close by. The food is neither remarkable nor cheap, and there's been chicken in my veggie plates more than once. The people behind the counter are friendly, though, and they've got some nice bottled drinks (yerba mate!) so I'm never really disappointed.

Good God, this has got to be the worst Thai food I've ever eaten ... bland, no flavor, zest, no anything and the appearance is like slop, honestly. I realize that this is a "fast food" type Thai place meant mostly for the student population but I would think even students would have a better sense of taste than that if they've ever had good Thai food in the way it's suppose to taste. I will never return to this place. The worst part of it is I got the 3 item combo dish with an eggroll and a drink and the bill came to $19.46! Talk about waste. The eggroll, albeit pricey $5+, was probably the only half way decent food item on my plate. The most unsatisfying meal I've ever had. Two words, "stay away"! It really doesn't deserve even one star but I'll give them that for the eggroll. Great Thai restaurants, should you be interested are: 3 Thai in Pleasant Hill and Sa-wooei in El Cerrito. You can get it very hot & spicy if you want it.

Solid place for thai lunch. They have a "buffet" where you can order one, two or three things and they put it on a good bed of rice. Very good selection of veggie options with lots of tofu. Weird layout and really loud. Hard to get a seat during the rush! Will be returning, but not too much: this $6 meal is 3 soups at Stuffed Inn..

I have been to this place for dinner twice. Both times have been pretty bad. The first time I got take out and was disappointed with the price and quality of the food. The second time, I made the mistake of dining in. - The service is terrible. They brought me my food to my table, but they did not bring water or silverware. You are also expected to bus your own table. - The food quality is low. While not terrible, it is definitely cheap and mass produced. They also give you very little. I ordered the BBQ chicken and was served two thin slices of chicken on a plateful of rice. - The price is not as cheap as you would expect. For $8 or so I would expect some real service or some decent food or at least a reasonable volume. This place gives you none of the above. The one kid who was working at the registers was very nice so I feel guilty leaving this one star review, but a smile and small talk can't make up for the basics.

Northside Berkeley sucks ass for good food options, but Jasmine Thai is certainly an exception. Nestled in a tiny slot on Euclid, Jasmine has managed to break the curse of that location by staying open for more than 6 months. I noticed right away that unlike every other owner, they stopped using the front reheater and almost exclusively cooked everything to order. The menu options offer a good variety of the usual Thai favorites (Pad Thai, Chicken Satay) and House Specials that often involve seafood. The service is friendly, prompt, and (again, unlike previous owners) clean. When considering the limited options available on that tiny strip of commerce, there's really only Bongo Burger, Top Dog, and Hummingbird Cafe to go with. LaVal's used to be the best, but now it's either shit or god awful, depending on how little the server cares. La Burrita serves the worst "mexican food" you'll ever eat in your life. The weird Korean BBQ/Asian Vegitarian place is bland at best. Around the block there's a food court that should be condemned (barring Top Dog) and the rest of the street is soup n' sandwich joints. Jasmine is a gem amongst gravel. I routinely order their Pad See Ew and Chicken in Garlic sauce with a side of eggrolls. The eggrolls are absolutely fantastic - so much so I got a friend who hates eggrolls to dog mine once I forced them to try one (use the dipping sauce!) Their prawns are shelled and picked so you can just eat them down. You can get anything to go and they never forget to give you all you need (sauces, utensils, napkins, etc.). Often I'll order on my way home and pick it up before I get there - that's a 15 minute walk, so we're talking fast cookin'. If you're looking for a tasty bite to eat north of campus - GO HERE! You won't be disappointed.

i just ate here for lunch. I had actually never been on the north side of campus, so I decided to walk up and check it out. There were a couple places to choose from--Hummingbird Cafe, Stuffed Inn, etc-- and I basically picked Jasmine Thai at random. It's a pretty small place, with most of the seating in the back of the restaurant. Nothing fancy at all, but I definitely didn't get a dirty or unclean vibe. I ordered a Pad Thai with Prawns (I know, pretty unoriginal thing to order, but you might as well test the waters with the Thai staples first before getting into something more complex). I was expecting it to come from a hot plate given the price point (only around $7.50), but the lady actually took the time to make it fresh. And she took the extra 3 seconds to bring it out to where I was sitting, not just slap it up on the bar for me to pick it up. All in all, it was pretty delicious. I have a feeling this will be a definite regular lunch stop for me once school starts back up.

Wholly disappointing. I came here for lunch because Stuffed Inn had their usual ridiculously long line coming out of the building. The lunch specials are between $5.50 and $7 for rice and a choice of 1-3 entrees. Food at Thai eateries usually have a rich flavor, but this place's green tofu curry and chicken basil was flavorless aside from the spiciness of the chili. It was just watery, spicy meat-and-veggies plopped atop soggy rice. With competition like this, it's really no surprise that places like Stuffed Inn and even La Burrita can continue to attract large crowds during lunch hour on Northside.

I'm quite frankly surprised at the negative reviews. I think that the food is way better than the much praised Cha Am and much cheaper than many full service places. The lunch buffet is good, cheap, plentiful, and fast (in and out in under 30 minutes). For $6-$8 I really don't think you can expect better. I haven't ordered much from the full service menu but that too was fast and good. I especially appreciate the fresh and perfectly cooked vegetables. (And I love that they use real straw mushrooms rather than just tired-out-sliced- up regular ones.) The pumpkin curry is particularly good. Check it out.

I ate at Jasmine Thai at least twice a week for all of last semester and almost always from the ready-made food. I dug the red rice. I dug the not too spicy for my impossibly wussy taste buds yellow curry with tofu. I dug the friendly server and cashier. But why I am I writing a review now? Because my spring semester dining companion went to JT without me (how could you!?) and an employee said "How have you been? How is your friend? We have her sunglasses." It is now October. The last time I went there was MAY, freakin' 5 months ago. I had forgotten I ever owned those sunglasses. Sure enough, I stopped by and they had my glasses up by the register (coated in 5 months of dust and cheap-food grease) but they were there none the less. Three stars for reliably decent food (ooo! try the black rice pudding for dessert! mmm...) but five stars and a round of applause for dedication to customer service and the best memory in the ENTIRE world. Maybe Thai food is the next gingko biloba.

Occasionally I get obsessed with a certain meal and try to have it everywhere I go. Right now I am all about Tom Kha Gai, an amazing coconut milk soup with chicken and mushrooms, flavored with lemongrass, ginger, and galangal. So I had time to kill and thought I would try Jasmine Thai's version. It was... Not good. There wasn't a single piece of ginger, lemongrass, or galangal in the whole dish, so I'm guessing they used dried spices and probably a decent amount of sugar to (poorly) approximate the taste. The soup was really watery, not creamy-- the white color could have been achieved with cornstarch, not coconut milk, for all I can tell. It also contained random things like baby corn and cherry tomatoes, and the chicken was dry. It is cheaper than Racha Cafe on Southside, but it's so bad that I'd much rather spend the extra money at Racha, which has the best Tom Kha Gai I've had so far. The only reason this got more than one star is that the lunch specials looked pretty good and others seemed to enjoy them, so I'm guessing it's just the soup that is utter crap.

It's a little overpriced for what you get. It's not very fresh. I agree with Josh K, the people who own and run this place are incredibly sweet. I go here for the convenience (fast, close to campus) and the RED RICE. Yeah, I get red or brown rice every time I want to justify a greasy thai meal. It makes me feel like I'm making a healthy decision.

overpriced, dingy little place... belongs in the asian food court on heart down the street guy there had no idea what was in some of the menu items that had foreign names but no descriptions... took quite a while for the 1 item to go order... small portion... quality of food was better than chiang lai but worth twice the price. not coming back again.

The food at Jasmine Thai is definitely the best Thai food near the north side of the Berkeley campus--their lunch specials are very tasty (the Pad Thai and the green beans in particular), and their Pad Se Ew is great. You don't have to wait long for your food if you order at lunch, which is a great bonus for those of us who only have 30-minute lunch breaks. The downside to Jasmine is that it simply doesn't have enough room. Waiting for your food can be quite an experience, as there is little room to stand or sit to wait and people are constantly squeezing by you to get to the tiny dining area. Finding a seat during lunchtime can be difficult to impossible, and sometimes your table can be intruded upon by people asking to share (I found this to be uncomfortable). But the food is cheap, tasty, and fast--three things I value highly on my lunch break!

Finally, a place that has lasted longer than 6 months in that space on the northside. It is not a bad option for a quick meal. There are a few preset items you can quickly order for lunch. They also give you the option of black rice which is a good change of pace. The prices are reasonable, about $7 for a two-item lunch with rice. While the food is not exceptional, it is not too greasy and the spices are balanced. I like the pumpkin chicken and the green beans & tofu. Remember to bring some cash. They do not take credit cards, and they charge a small fee for using your debit/ATM card. There is a Bank of America ATM nearby on campus at the Terrace Cafe.

The son-in-law eggs are their specialty, and that's lucky for me. Hard-boiled eggs and tofu in a sweet sauce, perfect over some red rice. You can also choose between various curries and pad thai for their excellent lunch special - one, two, or three items, plus rice, for under 10 bucks. It's great!

    (4)
  • Cris L.

Very adequate food at a very reasonable price. The layout is very awkward, though. You queue, order and pay right by the door. This means that the people done with the queuing, ordering, paying and eating have to squeeze through in between the wall and the people still queuing, ordering and paying.

my favorite place in northside in term of getting food. the buffet lunch is very good. if you get lucky, u'll get the server that does a REALLY good job. watching him filling my lunch order is very satisfying as he carefully fills my dishes into respected corners of the take out box, adds extra sauce from the dish on to my rice, and wipe off any sauce around the container that might make the food look messy. his action makes me respect my lunch. but if u get unlucky, then u get good food that is slapped into a box. it happened to me today. sadness. it's just not the same when it is not handled with care.

I've walked past this restaurant multiple times before but I never had a chance to take a look inside until today. Jasmine Thai offers an assortment of standard Thai dishes and surprisingly, a selection of both vegetarian and vegan options. They also have specials posted outside the door and quite a bit of beverage options. Dishes are pretty cheap price-wise, although there are better Thai restaurants in the Berkeley area that charge at the same price. I ordered the Beef Pad See-Ew and a Thai Iced Tea. The Pad See-Ew didn't appeal to me as anything out of the ordinary; if at all, a bit bland. The noodles were plain and didn't have as much flavor as I expected, and the beef was slightly overcooked. Regarding the Thai Iced Tea, it actually tasted pretty good. The drink was just right - not overly sweet and not too much tea flavor. There aren't many other places on the north side of campus where you can order Asian-style drinks, and if you're looking for something to quench your thirst, try here. The food is fine, but as I said before, you can find better quality Thai restaurants in the area charging the same dishes at the same price. The restaurant usually isn't crowded, and almost every time I pass by the restaurant is empty. Even so, they cook their dishes quite fast, so if you need something quick or on the go you can always stop by here. Jasmine Thai also sells bottled beverages and pre-made buns - perfect if you want a quick snack. The food is decent, but if you prefer a place to sit down and enjoy your dinner, try a different Thai restaurant.

Among the many restaurants on Euclid and Hearst across the street from the North Side of the UC Berkeley Campus, this is a great place to eat. They have several vegetarian and vegan options and they have separate menus for vegetarian and vegan meals (I love it when places do this). They have yellow, green, and red curries, which have various levels of spiciness. I've only tried their vegan yellow curry tofu which is mild and tastes pretty good. Their vegan crunchy tofu is also quite good. The main reason I don't here more often than I do is their prices (Expect to pay between $7 and $8.50 for lunch) This place is really close to where I work and has a pretty good selection of vegan items, which is why I'm willing to pay slightly more than I typically would to eat here. But if you're not restricted to the North Side of campus, I'd suggest trying Thai Basil, which has slightly better quality food.

    (3)
  • Josh K.

Go for lunch, their buffet is solid. I usually get "double basil" - basil eggplant tofu, and basil chicken, on red rice if I'm feeling rich. They have raised prices due to hard times and red rice, which used to be free, is now 50c extra. I've never bothered to go for dinner and the style of the restaurant just does not fit with a sit down dinner place. The people who run it are really nice though! It is a husband and wife (or at least a significant-other) team.

  • Angela T.

Although I liked the flavors, they give very little portions. My boyfriend and I were going to share the lunch special (3 items with rice for ~$9), but it was barely enough for one person. We had red rice with green curry, green beans with chili, and basil chicken. I liked the green curry the best, but again, it was a very small spoon of it. The actual restaurant was very small. I found myself very carefully navigating down the aisle so that I wouldn't accidentally hit the person at the next table as I was getting up. On the upside, it was fast. I don't think I'll go back.

1.75 stars. So, I've been craving some Thai food ever since a colleague of mine brought some to a study session for the group. She got it from Thai Noodle on Shattuck, and it was delicious. However, since I was at the top of campus, I did not feel like walking all the way down to Thai noodle. On top of that, I'm not really sure what the dishes were that she got. Anyway, so I decided to try Jasmine Thai. I ordered the Cashew Bean Curd dish. It was pretty good/ok, about a 3 star dish. I also got a Thai iced tea with organic soy milk, which was absolutely awesome. However, while sitting down to eat I started looking over the reviews on Yelp for this place on my iphone. I noticed one individual who commented that they had gotten food poisoning from here. I didn't think anything of it. Probably just an individual experience, and nothing to worry about, right? Wrong! I totally got sick a couple of hours after eating here. My stomach was jacked up for a good two days. So, while the food was decent - it was definitely a solid 3 stars in the taste department- it's not cool to get sick after eating out somewhere, which is what knocks this review of Thai Jasmine down to 1.75 stars. The extra .75 is for the friendliness of the people working there.

I went there to lunch a couple of times and I felt in love in their red rice. They made the best rice I have had, and coming from a Thai, this is very rare. The entrees need a bit of variety though. I love their tofu n eggplants, son-in-law eggs, and tofu w/ string beans. I have never tried the curry because I dislike the way they put broccoli and carrots in curry. It's just not right for Thai curry. Pricewise, it is more expensive than other places in the area.

If you find yourself on the northside of Berkeley, Jasmine is the best Thai food you will find. It has quite a good selection and almost everything I've had there was good. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean. It can get a little busy sometimes, but thats true of any good food place. I recommend the pumpkin curry and panang beef on red rice!

Taste: 3 Value: 3 Service: 4 I came here for their lunch special one time, and I was somewhat disappointed. Their food was okay, but the price was a tad higher than I would have liked, given the quality. Also, there's not much seating inside, and the hallway you order food in is very narrow. Also, the lines during lunch can be quite long. All in all, it was okay.

They have the best coconut ice cream! I love getting their fried banana and coconut ice cream. Other than that, pretty standard, but convenient if you're a vegetarian or a vegan (they have whole vegan selection). It's not that great, it's not that cheap, but I like their Yellow Curry Tofu.

A simple Thai lunch place close to the North Gate that serves tasty and fairly authentic meals for reasonable prices. Don't expect to be floored by the food, but don't expect your tummy to hurt after your meal either. I appreciate the fact that the people that work here are actually Thai (I can hear them talking in the kitchen, and better yet understand!) as I've been to one too many restaurants where the language from the kitchen is not Thai. The place also has the aroma of a true Thai kitchen (like my momma's) and the decor includes a portrait of the revered king as well as the requisite Thai elevator, oops, I meant restaurant, music. I feel at home.

I eat at Jasmine Thai quite a bit. Their lunch buffet is always really good and their spring rolls rock the party. Folks from school meet there often. Good neighborhood vibe, and I've never been disappointed.
