I ordered an hour ahead for take out because I heard this place has a looong wait. I got there right at noon, my scheduled time to pick up, and the dining floor was filled, no one waiting for a seat. I don't know why they only had two waitresses there, but they already seemed a little flustered and busy. I told them I was here for pick up, waited, waited, waited, and I even saw my order under the heat lamp when I got there! The food was ready at noon!! I looked around, and all of a sudden there were 10 people waiting to be seated. Waited more, and then I waited some more. And I mentioned to one of the girls that my food was ready, and kindly asked if I could just pay and leave. They were kinda nice, but definitely overwhelmed. They need a host, or a third waitress, or both, even. They cannot handle the amount of people that were there. Ah, finally got back to the office.. but wait, my food is already cold. Well, yeah, I took it to go, but it was ready, sitting there for 15 minutes before I got to leave! Well, my pulled pork sandwich was pretty yummy, nothing spectacular (I bet it would have been better if I got it earlier). And the sweet potato fries were a little soggy from being in a bag, and not exactly warm. I'd give this place another go some day. Do NOT eat here during weekday lunch hour. You will be taking a 2.5 hour lunch. I also do not suggest going in and ordering to-go. You should definitely phone in an hour ahead. When I got there, two guys came in after me, and wanted to order to-go. By the time I left, they hadn't even placed their order yet.

We got the BBQ chicken dinners and beef rib dinners with sides of potato salad and coleslaw. Food is great. But a warning (and why one star is deducted): call ahead to see if they have what you want - I didn't know that part. It takes hours to cook this stuff, and they don't make so much that it gets waisted. I think they would rather run out than throw out or reuse the next day. Once we went a little late for dinner and they were out of most of the stuff we all tried to order. Take out is great too. but call earlier in the day so yours will get reserved for you.

I would actually like to give this place more stars, but the me tell you when you here during the week for lunch please expect to wait an entire HOUR to get your food. The food is good if you have all day to wait this do so, but I don't. I have gotten the pulled chicken sandwich and you have the option to add slaw with fries. Everything taste great. Will not go on my lunch hour again with out calling ahead.

A home converted restaurant with an old American rustic vibe. You enter through 2 sets of old wooden doors before getting to the actual restaurant. Ceiling/walls are of thick wood with old posters and license plates as decor. Ordered brisket, rib and beef tip platter but was sadly disappointed. More on the fact that the meat was not as tender as I had expected. i was honestly expecting for the meat on the rib to melt RIght off! sighs. Sauce was flavorful and was definitely a house special but the meat did not hit the spot. I would visit again if I was craving bbq around work but definitely not drive 30 minutes from home for. parking was limited in a very small side lot. OHH the gravy with the mash potato was veryyyyyy good though. You taste the flavorful meat in the gravy they brewed in? This would actually be the star for me on the menu.

came here for lunch and let me tell you..the drive to get there was both arduous and treacherous but it was worth it! once you open the door, you'll immediately face another door with the sign "siblings welcome relatives need appointment" or something in that regard...i thought it was a funny lighthearted humor...we're off to a great start! my friend Jeff C and I walked in..starring blindly around for the waitress..she quickly found our lost souls and permitted us to sit wherever we wish. After we sat down, I saw the please seat yourselves sign...d'oh! I ordered the brisket plate as many fellow yelpers suggested. It was probably one of best briskets I have ever eaten. It was juicy, tender and that bbq had a little spicy kick to it too. I had coleslaw and mashed potatoes for sides. For someone who's rather picky about coleslaw (cuz KFC makes the best in the world hands down), it was actually not too bad. Overall, I really enjoyed eating here and would like to come back again for the pulled pork, now hopefully the next time I go it won't be right when kids get out of school

Canyon City BBQ is the best place to go, if you are not in Kansas, Kentucky or other midwest cities, But i do have one vital comment, they do not have enough help. It is like they are trying to save a few bucks by not hiring enough folks. you have to wait for your food often and many times your orders are messed up. A word to Canyon your food is Good but your service sucks. And Service is the name of the game , people will find other places, if you you dont step up your service game. Unfortunately people are in a hurry in these days

I've driven by this place many times before. I decided to stop by during the lunch hour and get something to go. We ordered the combo plate which includes spare ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket. Comes with two sides. We got the cole slaw and baked beans. Also ordered some corn bread and mashed potatoes with gravy. The meats seemed a bit overcooked. I initially couldn't tell the difference between the pulled pork and brisket since the brisket was chunked instead of sliced. The barbecue sauce was of the sweet, thick and vinegar type. It was pretty good. The baked beans were very good as was the mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy was the essence of beef. Corn bread was served with honey butter. All in all fairly decent barbecue.

AWESOME place. I've had great bbq (the best is in Amarillo, TX), but I think this is as good as it gets for SoCal. - food: Simply put: to die for. - ambiance: Basic joint, no fru-fru-ness, very laid back and clearly all about the food - service: Got there around lunch time, definitely busy and the staff did their best to seat us asap. The staff looked a bit overwhelemed, but once they got things under control, they were very very nice. The owners were going around teh tables making sure everyone had extra napkins, bbq sauce, and whatever else they needed. You can tell they are awesome people. - price: Not bad for the quality of the food overall: Pulled pork sandwich is awesome, make sure to get a side of coleslaw and slather the sandwich with their delicious bbq sauce. Support this place because this truly is a gem.

A good, down to earth, unpretentious place with affordable food and good beers. (One of the few left that isn't catering to the trendy upstarts!) The staff has been friendly each time I've been there. Their pulled pork is the BEST and their sides are decent. They even have items for vegetarians like a special baked potato. It is worth the drive - I get carry out for my son who was never really into BBQ until I brought home this. Now it's one of our favorites.

By all means. This place has the best barbeque east of downtown LA. I always order the Canyon City sampler, which has a little bit of everything. The food is great, it has a Texas taste to it. What I really love is the potato salad, it taste home cooking, let alone the pulled pork and brisket is cooked slow to perfection. Well if you ever want a good taste of barbeque and you happen to be around the San Gabriel valley, this is place to go. I try to eat their at least once a month.

I must admit, I would have never come to this place if I didn't know anyone who had personally dined here. Although it is located on a busy one way street in Azusa...it's primary surroundings are residences. It actually does look like a little house/shack with a half lit neon sign advertising it's name. If you were to drive by, you'd probably miss it...so it's obvious that their patrons are either locals or regulars who have found the place by word of mouth. Considering the size of the establishment from the outside, there was ample dining area. I like the casual atmosphere and the decor of license plates collected from different states across the US. The servers were very attentive and friendly, which was definitely a plus for me. I liked that I felt like I was actually in a barbeque joint in the south. We sampled a good portion of their barbeque. The waitress said they were known for their pulled pork and their brisket, so we ordered that and added their spareribs and tri-tip to go with it. I thought the pulled pork was good, not great but better than the brisket. The brisket was a bit dry and didn't have the smokey flavors that was expected. The same goes for the tri tip...it reminded me of a thick piece of roast beef, and again, the cut was very dry and tough. My biggest disappointment was the spareribs...you gotta leave on the rib tip with spareribs...what would be the point?! Side dishes were very pedestrian...almost like afterthoughts. The peach cobbler dessert a la mode was mainly all ice cream...would hate to see what the peach cobbler by itself would have looked like. The prices were reasonable, but I think more if you were to have one of their sandwiches. I really wanted to give this place atleast 3 stars for it's uniqueness in the restaurant and the service in itself, but for me it really comes down to the food.

a little house located in the butt crack of glendora ca. but this place is bomb!!! they make the softest meat on bbq. souce is just perfect and has the perfect amount of sweetness in them. they have the best pork ribs and chicken served in most expensive bbq places! the price is also super GOOD!!!!

This place is legit, I am not much for BBQ but I know good BBQ when I taste it and on top of that their prices are ridiculously low for good hearty comfort food. Def. a must go and did I mention its a moms and pops joint; now you gota go

I didn't go to the actual restaurant, but a couple of blocks away from Canyon City BBQ, there was a summer concert in the park, and lo and behold, there was a Canyon City booth. Since this has been recommended to me by several people, I figured I had better try it out. At the booth they had sandwiches and pork rib tips. I opted for the rib tips. $5 bought me a giant pile of meat. whoa! $1 more and I got a bottle of water and a bag of Lays chips. I never even used the wet wipe they gave me because the tender meat just fell off the bone and my fork was all that was needed. A nice service offered is free deliver to the concert. With a trustee menu in hand, you can call CCbbq and order an entree from the restaurant and they will bring it to the concert, ready for you to pick up from the booth at your convenience. Perusal of the menu shows offerings of nachos, burgers, quesadillas and fries, and about 16 different side dishes to accompany your BBQ. But I intend to hit the actual restaurant for pulled pork plate with some coleslaw and steamed veggies.

I'll start with what they are best at: They make the best pulled pork and spareribs ever: sweet, smoked and tender! The service was fast and friendly. The sweet potato fries, mashed potatoes and rice and gravy were great. The tri-tip was very good, but one slice was all fat. They should be more careful when slicing. They only lost 1 star for the baked potato they tried to kill me with. It was as hard as a rock. It mus have been cooking all day. My knife couldn't even cut through the skin. I should have sent it back, but I hate to be difficult. I ate a few bites, gave up and purloined my daughter's sides. My husband gave me a rib to try from the side o' Wilbur he had on his plate. All in all, a great place for BBQ. because of that wonderful pork, the great service and the reasonable prices. I will be back,

I could smell this place from the freeway!!! Came here to get some pre-game BBQ. The service is great. They are very nice here. Not to pricey and a variety of choices. The BBQ ribs are great! I had the ribs and tri-tip. Both were tasty! It's a must try if your in the area. ; ^ D

Quality home cooking. We have been to all the chains and have also had authentic Sant Rosa and Texas BBQ in the heartland; however this place ranks high up there. Prices are super reasonable, the service was top notch and friendly. Casual atmosphere....a must try. We will be back; good job Canyon City.

I went back today and got the parental unit a Pulled pork sandwich. I got myself a 3 meat combo. Pulled pork, brisket and Tri-Tip (which I have not had yet). The Brisket and Pulled Pork were just as amazing as I recall back in January. And the sweet potato fries that I got the moms were pretty good too. But, MOTHER OF ALL THINGS GREAT AND SMALL!!!! The Tri-tip, man! THE TRI-TIP! As far as meat in my mouth, this was the highlight of my slightly over 20 years on this planet (slightly being a relative term) The only other flavors to ever illicit this sort of dumb grin are the Corn from Baby Blues and the Flour Tortillas from La Indiana (both places that I have reviewed, CHECK'EM OUT!) I am in a state of beefy / porky bliss....

  • Joshua N.

Best BBQ I have ever had. They have a great sauce, which they sell (and I have bought several times). The Brisket in conjunction with their sauce was mind blowing. The side dishes could use a little love, not going to lie. But what is supposed to be good at a BBQ place is very good.

  • Richard O.

This place is all hype. Is it the best bbq? Nope...Is it average bbq? Nope...As a matter of fact, I prefer bbq at chili's and I hate chili's. The sauce here is so bland and unsatisfying and the portions are skimpy. Not the best or average bbq. Very disappointing.

So, all i have to say is this place is orgasmic. With my dad being a bbq lover, ive traveled all throughout the us in search of good bbq and this is probably in my top 3. It looks a little jenky on the outside but don't let it fool you. The brisket is to die for. I put a little extra bbq sauce on it and it was perfect. But most importantly DO NOT leave this place without trying the beans. They are absolutely marvelous. I couldn't put them down. The potato salad is also very yummy. I had the st louis ribs, they were pretty good as well. I will definitely go back for more, the peach cobbler sounds delicious i just couldnt save enough room in my tummy. Most importantly the price was average for bbq. I noticed some things on the menu were reeaally cheap, like sandwiches and hot dogs. Thanks canyon city bbq for contributing to my obesity :)

I lived in the neighborhood for over 4 years before I got enough nerve to try this place out. Don't let appearances fool you, the food is really good. Their claim to fame is the pulled pork, and it is every bit as good as everyone says it is. They have a menu item called "BBQ Dogs" which is two split hot dogs served on a bun with grilled onions, BACON and bbq sauce. It's simple, but surprises you with just how good it is... just like this restaurant. Prices are pretty reasonable. Since our first visit we've also catered from here for parties, and they do a good job with that as well.

4 stars, based solely on their exemplary brisket. Their tri-tip is pretty good, the side dishes can be hit or miss. But that brisket is stand-up-and-applaud outstanding.

Okay this is gonna be short and well, short. We liked it mostly, with a few suggestions. The pulled pork is very good but served on a soft hamburger bun. My wife could not pick it up to eat it without it falling in a heap. Had to use a fork. Blow 25 cents and get it on a french roll. Don't order the 'Texas Toast' as a 'side dish'. Despite the name it's one small piece of bread. Hate to see someone waste a dinner side order on one small piece of toast. The name may refer to the spread (?) Walking in I asked where the big spud count was at. Got a blank look. We were told they keep a running count of the number available. I guess they run out sometimes. I never got a Coke refill. A great place never the less.

A great little BBQ shack - about as authentic as you will find anywhere near LA. I've driven by before, and today I finally decided to check it out. My stomach and I are very glad we did. I was in the mood for beef, so I ordered the brisket sandwich. I got the super size for $8, which is twice the meat as the regular for an extra two bucks. Shazam! This sandwich was not just stacked, but overflowing with tender, juicy, savory brisket slices. The sauce was excellent - a perfect mix of sweet and tangy. I stuffed my face (and belly!) like no one was watching. (Actually, no one was watching - which is good, because my face and hands were covered with sauce!) =P~ This place was exactly what I hoped it would be. Delicious food, friendly staff, and down-home style. I will definitely be back to Canyon City!

A buddy and I came across this place one day and decided to try it. The first thing you encounter is a wave of bbq goodness on the outside as the you can smell that wonderfulness! Drool................ This spot has been really hit and miss with me, though. I've been going to this place for about two years and it's always a toss up. I've had good days where the brisket and tri tips were on point with flavor and then other days when it was meh. But the one thing there that nevers disappoints is the pulled pork sandwich. It's so ding dang flavorful. They got other stuff there too like burger's, dogs. links and of course ribs! Oh I have yet to try everything on the menu but I sure will. Oh and they also serve beer!

So far this is the best BBQ I ate at. I love the beef brisket and the tasty sides. The corn bread & honey butter they make themselves is to do for. Great Service, Reasonable Prices. This is a for sure BBQ to try and I bete u will want to go again. They are closed certain days so check hours b 4 u go. Don't expect nothing fancy inside but, kinda small but cozy.

Best bbq I have ever tasted. The meat is falling off the bone, its moist, and flavorful. I usually get the create your own platter. It's cheaper and of course you get to choose. The portions are huge. I had enough for two meals. Awards are all over the restaurant so you know they know bbq. Its small but, in case it gets busy you can also refill your own soft drinks. They also sell bottled beer and have a pretty good selection.

I was surprised how many 5 star ratings were given to this Humble BBQ place. So, of course, I had to go. First, this place is what you want to exoect from a BBQ Joint. Quaint, Kind of Rustic very friendly waitresses and even a smattering of old license plates. But as far as expectations stop there. You will not be prepared for the Delicious BBQ here. I wouldn't call it Memphis or St Louis. I think that the taste was developed through many trial and error. The vast amount of awards from BBQ competitions show effort, time and creativity. Now the Raving. One of the Appetizers is Rib Tips. I've had these at many other places, but these were off the charts. My Daughter had the Hamburger, Just a Hamburger, No Way In her words " Now This Is What A Hamburger Is All About " I tasted it and she was right. Heck even the Fries were Delicious. Their cooking technique leaves Ribs falling off the bone, pray there is no stiff breeze or you could loose them. I sampled Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, Hot Link and Rib. Brisket - I have never been to a Texas Brisket establishment and Now I don't need to go. The Brisket is the best I have ever tasted, Velvet Tenderness, slightly smoky and very juicy. The Sandwiches that have Brisket are to Die for. Pulled Pork - Outstanding Tenderness, Moist and Mouth Watering Could be smokier. with the Sweet Sauce. Heaven !!! Chicken - Fall off the Bone and Still Moist. Excellant Job Guys. Sausage - Very Good Taste, could be hotter, but Delicious. Ribs - Probably some of the Best Bones I have ever had the chance to put in my mouth, That is saying something as I have eaten Ribs at most of the LA BBQ joints and also Charlie Vergos Rendezvous from Memphis. These are right up there with the Best of them. All in All Canyon City BBQ is Outstanding and You really need to try it out. Please Leave Some For Me !!

More like a 3.5 My con-artist, shrewdish, non shower taking, WoW playing, like wench of an ex-roommate of about 2 months worked here. I had dropped her off here several times because she thought it was a privilege for me to give her rides, vs. being an adult and doing things for herself....... this is becoming a review of her ("tangent"!). Well anyways, I finally had the chance to try this place out. I ordered the baby back ribs (only about $20 for a rull rack), and the first thing I could think of was the "lloyds" pre-prepared ribs that my mom would buy for my dad. Nothing wrong with that, but it just had a flavor that reminded me of the processed flavor of Lloyds although I did like the place, and I think it's a cut above the avg. The texas toast was decent, and the sauces were on the sweet side, but it did have a decent depth of flavor. All-in-all, I'd definitely come back here again, just make sure its before 6pm if you're going on a Sunday (closing time).

Love this place! I have gotten the takeout a few times, and was never disappointed. I dinned in last night, and it was just as spectacular! I always get the brisket, tender, juicy and flavorful. The pulled chicken is always a good choice too. Don't forget to get a side of beans.

If you are a fan of brisket, ribs and pulled pork, this hole-in-a-wall bbq joint is the best place to go around this area (and within the 20-mile radius). It's very reasonable and the quality of food is top-notch. Of course it's not Beverly Hills or Old Town Pas, but hey, the meat is tremendously tender and you won't even see red dye on your tongue. You must order their baked beans, fries w/gravy, pulled pork sandwich w/slaw, their creamed corn and Texas toast. During lunch (on weekdays), there might be a 5-10 minute wait but it's worth it!

Texas size patrons but not portions. The pulled chicken was perfect juicy and tender. However, the pulled pork was a little dry but still tasted great when smothered in the BBQ sauce. I ordered the two meat combo plate: pulled pork & pulled chicken with corn on the cob and Texas toast as sides. Much to my surprise the portions were not overwhelming. I left without feeling exhausted from my eating efforts.

I came here a couple Friday's ago and I am craving it today. I had a "philly cheese steak" sandwich, which said on the menu that it wasn't like what I would get in Philly but it was good! And sure enough it was GOOD. The BBQ sauce (even the "spicy" version) was a bit sweet for me and I was a little offended they charged me 50cents for a few slices of jalapeno that wasn't even enough to spread throughout my sandwich so maybe next time I will get the sandwich to go and eat it at work where I will have my favorite chilis on hand ;) The service was good and pretty prompt. Since it was going to be all of us girls in the office (8 of us?) we called ahead of time and made it back to work before our lunch hour was over. It was pretty busy and cramped in there. I would suggest goin in around 11:30 to beat the rush. In the end, I had a yummy sandwich, arnold palmer and a few slices of jalapenos for just $10.

Delish! Great BBQ. The price is average for BBQ which is to say, not cheap. The hours are also kind of a bummer since I'm a late eater. They have defiantly lost money from me closing at 8. But when I have the money to spend and it's early still its an awesome place. I haven't had anything bad there. The cajun sausage is great too which is not something I normally order at a BBQ place. The ribs and the pulled pork is the best. I'd probably skip the cobbler though, it's not worth the calories.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. We arrived at about 7:15pm on a Friday night (tonight actually...okay, technically yesterday now) and waited maybe 10 minutes to be seated. All of the tables had people, there was a quiet roar of folks laughing, and the smell of bbq sauce filled the air. I think we may have been salivating. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. The place is a converted house that doesn't look like much from the outside. Heck, it doesn't really look like much from the inside either. You can totally go in flip-flops and fit in just fine which we LOVED. This is how bbq joints should all be, right? It was clean and it did sport a self-serve beverage area that you can get your own refills I guess. Once seated, the server was quick to bring us drinks. We decided on ordering a sampler for 18.99 that had a chicken leg, beef brisket, a hot link, ribs, and I think two more meats along with two sides. We also ordered a combo (you can get them with two, three or four meat choices) which also came with two sides. We opted for a four meat combo with pulled chicken, tri tip, pulled pork, and two hot links. I think that one ran 16.99. We chose the french fries, bbq baked beans (2 of those), and the o'brien potatoes for our sides. We also ordered a side of the Texas toast with 2 slices for each of us. The three of us picked and pecked and used our little piggy snouts as we shared all of those goodies. My personal favorites were the tri tip and both the pulled pork and pulled chicken. My pal and I agreed that a really tasty sammy would be if they used that Texas toast (garlic goodness-yum) and one of the pulled meats. That would be super delish together. Maybe that was on the menu? I dunno...but if it isn't, it should be!!! Though our beverages didn't get refilled super fast (we could have gotten it ourselves...just lazy), we hardly noticed because we were really enjoying the food. Nothing fancy. Just normal bbq. They have two bottles of sauce on the table. One is their original sweet recipe and the other is zesty. I stuck with the sweet beause that is more my speed. Plus, I needed something to cool my palate after eating my share of the hot links! All three of us ate to our hearts content. We still had leftovers. But, that didn't stop us from all sharing a brownie sundae. The brownie was warm, with a healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate dripping down the ice cream, and a mile of whipped cream on top. Three spoons and a few minutes later, we were all done. Toast. History. Where's my check? I need to go home and rest... I highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. Now, if you are some sorta high fallutin' bbq snob, you may not be impressed. I thought it was great and reasonably priced. I also think it would be a great destination after a day of motorcycle riding. The only downside for that is if you are with a large group, you might have issues getting seated. I'm guessing that they may have room for 50-75 people tops...just a guesstimate. So, only go with a smaller group. Then enjoy a sampler or a combination...and wipe the sauce off your plate with the toast. Tell people you licked your plate. They won't know the difference and you will have gotten every last drop!

Try the sampler plate, and the prices are cheap an they have good selection of sauces. Try the brisket plate and the pulled pork sandwiches, and ribs.

Hazy eyes and scrounging for money was a common occurrence as a teenager growing up in Azusa. So when my friends and I had enough money to splurge we would come to gorge away at some very tasty BBQ. The service is great and really hospitable, I think its family run and operated. So for $20 dollars, a friend and I would get a generous portion of assorted cuts. Plus included in the sampler was two sides we always got fries because it was bigger portion then getting their very good coleslaw. We always ordered water because we were always broke lol. Oh that 20 dollars included tip and when we had enough money we throw in some more bills cause they always treated us so nice. Have I ever said Azusa is amazing? oh because it is!

Great bbq. Each time we go it's packed, so we have occassionally ordered to go. Love the pulled pork, pulled chicken, pork ribs, brisket, beans, I could go on and on. Servers are always nice and friendly and very attentive.

Definitely the best bbq place in the area, I highly recommended the rib tips if you can get there before they sell out of them.

I went over a friend's house for Poker saturday night and they were serving takeout from Canyon City. We had chicken quarters and baby back ribs. The chicken had a nice crispy skin and tender on the inside. Flavor was good but better when you add the sauce. The bbq ribs were meaty and tender. This place is more like a 3.5 stars. I like it better than Lucilles.

I have been driving by this place for years and have always wondered if it was any good. So last week I decided to stop in. It is fantastic. The best BBQ that I have had in a really long time. The chicken is tender, the meat falls off the ribs. Their sides are definitely comfort food. This place is not for the health nut this is pure indulgence. You may have to run a few miles after your meal but not before you wake from your food coma. I highly recommend Canyon City. Service is nominal, but polite and homey. Prices are reasonable. Unfortunately for me they were out of Fosselman's ice cream. The Beef ribs and brisket sandwich are my favs.

I only came here after my motorcycle friends suggested it after a ride up Azusa. I grew up in an area where they really know how to do barbecue, and it's not usually my first choice when it comes to cuisine. However, we were all pleasantly surprised, including one of our friends who was VERY reluctant to even walk in. She didn't seem like she liked the looks of the place AND there were no cars in the parking lot. Our bikes were the only occupants of the small lot. Portions were huge AND the menu offered lots of choices, too. I had the loaded spud, and the rest of us ordered a combo with two choices of meat (which is more meat than I have in a week), a pulled pork sandwich, and I can't remember the rest. This is definitely a place for a return trip.

came here earlier this afternoon with some friends first timers and man were we satisfied! i got a beef brisket sandwich which came on a burger bun. bomb! with fries that were good. a buddy of mine got the rib tips appetizer which my friend said was great and side salad that was way huge so we shared it amongst 3 friends. the salad was decent. watever. my other friend got the pulled pork and st louis spare ribs combo plate which my friend said was badass so i had to try it and i concurred, it was the best of all the meats. i only ordered a beef brisket sandwich because i noticed that there was a brownie chocolate ice cream sundae but i was done by the time i got through the brisket sandwich. shite! it was supposed to be with fossellman's ice cream! dammit....o well. there was two bbq sauces, a spicy and a tangy saunce. both excellent the place may be a bit hard to find, but we all have crazy ass cell phones so go, now! well b4 8pm cos it closes eearly

Had the pulled pork sandwich was good, ribs looked a little scrawny and dry (glad he ordered them). Overall it was good notat the top of my list but if we are in the area we may consider.

The best BBQ in the SGV, I eat here at least once a month. It's not a big chain restaurant, all of the food is very good. I recommend the beef brisket or the pulled pork. Almost forgot about the Loaded Spud - it's a baked potato filled with everything, topped with your choice of meat. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

I catered this place for my husband's birthday party and the food was EXCELLENT. We had the bbq chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. Everything was perfectly flavored and super tender. I enjoyed the pulled pork and ribs the most. The rib meat just fell off the bones. The pulled pork was delicious!!!! I lost count of how many pulled pork sandwiches I ate throughout the night. The sides (cole slaw and baked beans) were both delicious. I'm not a fan of either one of those sides at other places, but I kept eating it b/c it was so good. The servings were extremely generous and I was very happy with the food.

I gotta say this is mighty fine BBQ. Everything I have tried has been excellent. The ribs are very tender and tasty! The sauce is great. One of the surprise highlights was ordering the Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. If you imagine in your wildest dreams what beef brisket gravy might taste like - well this does! The sauce of the gods I tell ya. It was all so good, I ate there the next night as well!

This was a pleasant surprise. Real barbecue in socal, who would've thought? It wasn't as good as I was hoping it to be, but it was pretty good and that's why I give it 4 stars. The service wasn't anything special. Nice casual atmosphere, like you'd expect a BBQ joint to be.

The two times I've left this place with a smile and a nod to the owners - a silent "thanks. thanks for the great food, and the awesome, can't- be- beat pricing" A mountain of rib tips piled on top of another mountain of fries for 8 or 9 bucks, pulled pork quesadilla....yum. and the sauce...wow.

I've really always enjoyed the food here, but i had such a horrible experience today as we were waiting ti be seated that we all ended up walking out. The two waitresses were upset at the help in the back for getting an order wrong. The way the handled the problem was completely inappropriate. They were talking down to the worker in the back in a way that made my stomach hurt. They were completely discriminatory and racially insensitive. I will never return!

spudindiculously scrumptious baked potato! Loved the loaded spud with BBQ sauce that rocks and pulled chicken, sour cream, butter, green onions and cooked to perfection. Tasty, tasty, tasty... I really enjoyed the serve yourself soda, as that is handy not to have to wait for another refill. A bit warm in their if it is hot, but it could be that every seat was taken. Must be good, if that is the case for Azusa. I had trouble coming here as it was my favorite Mexican restaurant - El Patio in the whole wide world, but there were enough visual distractions to almost keep me from being teary eyed of all the great memories. I think I might have made some new ones to add to the bunch. Hope they will serve breakfast one day!

so i went in for the pulled pork, and i've gotta say i had a pretty good experience. the ladies who work here are really sweet, although a bit short staffed, with the two of them serving everyone in the restaurant and taking orders to go. everything inside this dimly lit restaurant LOOKS sticky from bbq sauce (i'm sure it isn't), so how could they NOT have good bbq here?? after i put in my order, i sat at one of the chairs at the bar and just started to take in my surroundings. they have a fairly expansive collection of license plates from all over the place hanging on the walls, a section of photos of locals(?), and what's this?....a shelf stacked with a couple dozen trophies?? why would they showcase trophies of a local football/baseball te---wait! these are trophies from bbq competitions!! wow. trophies for all sorts of bbq categories. i have to admit, that's pretty damn cool. just my luck, they're out of tri-tip the first day that i come. well i still wanted to try the pulled pork anyway. it was really good. very tender, moist, not too chewy, and the bbq sauce had a sweet tanginess that complemented nicely. the bun seemed to be a standard hamburger bun, but if it was a roll baked in house, that might've sealed the five-star deal for me. the macaroni salad was alright, and the regular fries and sweet potato fries were nothing special. if you like bbq and are ever in this area, try out Canyon City Barbeque! the prices are good (total came to $27~ for three of us at lunch). i'm definitely gonna hit this place up on the way back from a trip to Big Bear! i'm sure a tri-tip sandwich would hit the spot after a long day of snowboarding :D

Canyon City BBQ looks like a small outhouse on the corner of a little neighborhood. It's much bigger on the inside, it's like a pair of my well worn jeans, they've been worked but they're comfortable. Came by here with a co-worker who said they have good BBQ. He recommended the all American Brisket. It was a juicy chopped brisket with sliced tomatoes, lots of American cheese, BBQ sauce and bacon on grilled sourdough. All for only $6.99. The sandwich was huge and for this much meat this is definitely a bargain. I wouldn't say this heart stopper is the best BBQ I've had but damn good and definitely worth the trip. We came here for a late lunch and it wasn't too packed friendly service staff. I hear from my co-worker that the wait can be long on the weekends and now I know why. It's hard to rate all the BBQ on just me having a sandwich but for what I had and the prices this place will get another go around maybe some pulled pork.

The food here gets 5 stars. But the place gets 2 stars. The BBQ here is very good. There is better BBQ out there I'm sure. But you're gonna have to drive south of the Mason Dixon Line to find some. The BBQ here is very saucy and good. So if you like your BBQ on the less saucy side, then this isn't the place for you. I had the Rib Tips and shared the BBQ nachos. They were great. Come here with an appetite and a Defibrillator because your gonna get allot of meat! The place looks like a home converted into a restaurant. It's very rustic and dark inside. The whole place needs work. Otherwise I would have given this place a 5 star rating. If you're finishing a long day in the Azusa Canyon, this is a must stop for hungry adventurers.

I eat barbeque from Texas to South Carolina to Illinois and beyond. This place is one of the best. I had the pulled pork, my wife had the brisket, and my daughter had the chicken. We were all extremely pleased with the taste and tenderness. Can't wait to try the ribs.

Atmosphere: Place is good size on the small side. BUT can handles large groups. kind of a homey feel. Very open. Food: been here a couple of times. Ordered the pulled pork quesadilla. This was no joke. Very good. Had the right amount of sauce, pork, cheese, onion ratio. Had the sampler plate as well to share between friends. slab of spare ribs that just melts in your mouth and falls off the bone, bbq chicken good nothing to wow about pulled pork and spicy sausage yum yum you definitely get your money's worth. Rib tips were finger licking good. Sauce is not overly sweet still has it tang. Would I go here again? Heck yeah didn't i just say Been here a couple of times? i will be here again since its close to work and home

I love bbq and I know what bbq is supost to taste like and sadly canyon city is not it. I went in with high hopes, the smell of smoke surrounded the building so I was expecting good smokey flavorful bbq. I ordered the brisket, my favorite form of bqq, and was very very disappointed. The meat was tender however it was also dry and flavorless. I attempted to give the meat some favor by dumping the canyon city sweet sauce over it, which just made it worse. They seemed to be proud of their sweet bbq sauce, our server mentioned it many times, it was very sweet however lacked the tangyness that makes bbq more then tomato paste and brown sugar.

Oddly situated in the middle of a residential neighborhood on a one way street, Canyon City BBQ has piled up numerous awards for their "Q". Most of their awards have come in the pulled pork division, but have also won awards for brisket and chicken. An old house converted into a restaurant, this quaint space churns out some pretty good food. The Rib Tips are 2 pounds of St. Louis rib "scraps" covered in barbecue sauce and served with French fries. The ribs are dry rubbed before being smoked, and the tips are very meaty and tender, although some of the pieces were dried out and tough. The French fries are nothing to write home about. They are standard fries that you get at most mom and pop burger stands. The pulled pork is smoked 12-14 hours and leaves a nice smoke ring to the meat. The amount of smoke time allows for the smoke to penetrate the meat and give added flavor. The pork is tender, although a slight bit dry and chewy in some spots. The pork is sauced with a minor amount of molasses based BBQ sauce, which is on the sweet side. Similar to the pulled pork, the brisket is smoked for 12-14 hours. A nice smoke ring can be seen on the edges of the meat. The brisket is very tender and it almost falls apart when you pick up a piece. There is a very thin layer of fat surrounding the brisket, giving it even more flavor. A fair amount of sauce comes with each serving, but there are two types of sauce on the table should you need more. The sides here are very uninspiring. We had the cornbread, which is a little dry; the Texas toast, very nice grilled piece of bread; the mashed potatoes and gravy, the potatoes were okay, but the gravy was heavy, salty and didn't have much taste; the chicken and rice soup was also very salty. For my taste, the BBQ sauce here is cloyingly sweet. A very small amount is okay, or mixing it with hot sauce to spice it up a little will also do the trick. This is Texas style BBQ so a sweeter sauce should be expected. To view pics: vegasbuff.blogspot.com/2…

This is a great place to get BBQ in the East San Gabriel Valley. The wait staff has been very friendly and accommodating every time I have been there. I enjoy creating my own combo to get the food that I enjoy, such as the pulled pork, brisket, and beef ribs. Give it a try!

Consistantly great place to have BBQ. We've never had a bad meal, and the service is always friendly and good. Pulled pork, as well as the brisket top our menu choices, and my daughters just love the "loaded spud", a meal onto itself due to the size of the portion. But, they also have wonderful, and all too often overlooked sides as well. Their coleslaw is great, as well as the beans, cornbread, and rice with gravey. The beans have a wonderful flavor, and the gravy has the "drippings from the BBQ, and makes for a wonderful side. All served up in a no frills type of interior, that makes you feel comfortable, and ready to sit back and enjoy a great meal!

If you have all day to eat here great. We loved the food, but waited about 30 minutes to be seated, then waited over an hour for the food. I know they were busy, but really....they could have offered an extra rib or meat for the wait. The ribs were great, but time and service hurt this place.

I am not a big red meat eater but this place ROCKS! The meat falls off the bone and the sauce is to die for. We may make this a weekly dinner spot. One thing to do before your first visit is call and verify the hours.

When I think of BBQ ribs I think of this place. I been hearing about this place from a friend for the past month so I decided to go try it. Me and my friend order 7 Beef Ribs each and shared some chips and salsa. And WOW! We didn't expect it to be that much food. The ribs were soooo yummy. We both ate 2 out of the 7 we ordered and took the rest home. When I got home my parents thought I Got To Go food. lol. I really recommend this place.

Why anyone goes to a bar be cue place and orders anything else is something I'll never understand. Oh, well...! This is the best bar be cue place for miles around. The Loaded Potatoe with pulled pork just can't be beat. It's a whole lot of wonderful eatin for a reasonable price. I've only found one bad thing about this place....I don't care how good a customer you are, they will not donate a free dinner or lunch to any of the local organizations fund raisers. That is really sad...they just don't participate.

After going here a couple of times I have noticed a few things, some good some bad. I will start with the good first. The first thing I noticed was the smell walking up. You can smell the smoke from the smoker - very appetizing. Their cornbread is delicious. Slightly sweet, soft and not too dry. They also give you a side of honey butter which is a nice touch. Get it as a side. I tried their sampler plate and my favorite thing was their beef brisket. The first time I had it for dinner it was a bit dry, but when I went for lunch it was more moist. I suggest going for an earlier dinner so you don't get the last of their food which may have been in the smoker too long. I also like the small family run restaurant feel. Now for the bad. The service is slow. So just be prepared. We went for dinner, it was very busy, but it took almost two hours total. I had to go up and get my wife's second side and ask for the check. We went for lunch and were only one of two tables full and still had to ask for the check. That is really my main issue, but I also have to not the slight inconsistency I noticed in the brisket. One time it's dry, next time moist. Overall I do recommend Canyon City Barbeque. Try the brisket and cornbread. Their sandwiches were also very good.

Best barbecue outside of Texas. :-) The beef ribs, beef brisket, and jerk pork are especially recommended. The service is superb, and the prices almost too low to believe. This isn't a fancy place, but then good barbecue isn't *supposed* to be fancy.

I worked in the area and visited many times for the awesome BBQ but I changed jobs for 1 year and didn't come back for almost 3 years. I finally came back and waves of wonderful pulled pork memories came rushing back. It almost seemed better than I remembered, but I was very hungry and salivating in anticipation , so my perception may have been skewed. I've only had the pulled pork sandwich, regular and southern style (with coleslaw inside...mmmm....mmmm good!) Man it's awesome! I;m stubborn and once I find something I like on the menu I stick with it, southern style was a risk for me but turned out very well. Yeah, the fries actually kinda suck but they're just filer. They have 2 choices of BBQ sauce on the table, I liked one but not the other. I like tangy, not too sweet. I coworker had the tri-tip and loved the high quality and generous portion. The decorations are a hoot and the fact that it's in a re purposed residence is interesting too. License plates, pigs, cow, and chickens everywhere.....incase you forget what you're eating. This is my favorite place for pulled pork, hands down. I hope more people visit and give it a good review. It's great for lunch if you work in the area. It's on the edge of how far I can travel at lunch and still be back on time but it's well worth it.

This place is GREAT! I Love it! It is a small place but it is always packed. From the outside it looks like theres no one there but its always busy. It has a mommas kitchen feel and everyone is very nice. The brisket is delicious! My boyfriend and I tried it and are now hooked on it (and I don't really like meat thats how good it is). You must try the All American Brisket Melt.

I dig this place. I discovered this BBQ place as I was driving by. Everytime I go there I tend to try something new, so far I have had the tri-tip plate, the pulled pork sandwich and the beef brisket. Each meal is an adventure for my taste buds. Will have to try the nachos with bbq meat topping. I recommend this to all of my friends, mmmmm BBQ.

when i was moving from covina to glendora last year, i was looking at a few homes around the corner from Canyon city .... if not for being too far from my daughters school ....i would've done it ...the thought of walking / jogging by this place almost everyday and of course weekly meals ....beautiful !! the key to this place as with most decent bbq places is ...don't get there late !! you snooze, you definitely lose ....this place is no frills, simple but the bbq is all good ...brisket, pulled pork links ... more consistent then hungry al's

its a little hit and miss on their pulled pork, sometimes its good, other times it is really mushy. brisket is really dry and you need to drench it in their sauce to enjoy it. i cant say for certain whether this place is great or bad, but it is bearable. i love these types of mom and pop shops since they are great alternatives to chains, but i would rather drive 20 more minutes to lucilles.

The pulled pork was great, I ordered it because I read about here on the web. The TriTip was ok and the St. Louie ribs were decent. The service was terrible. Took about 45 minutes to get my food and they told me there were no beans left, yet they gave me beans in my order. You would think that was a good thing, but I had changed my order to get a baked potato. The place is way better than Chicken and Ribs in Azusa, but not by much.

Ok, this is about the best BBQ you will ever find in Los Angeles, that being said, I have never had anything even close to what they serve here in LA...... I had the beef brisket the first time I ate here, it is to die for, the next time I had the Tri Tip I cannot beleive it, it is as good as the Brisket, is it possible for one restaurant to have 2 or more perfect meals????? apparently it is.... you need to try this place out, have a party, order food from here and impress yoru friends... I live in San DIego, anytime I am in LA, I go to this place, have ridden my Harly up to LA just to eat BBQ here... sounds strange I know ... it is worthy though............awsome service too.............

Came on a Sunday afternoon with the hubby's family. As soon as we walked in, we thought we've walked into hick town. Keep in mind his side is white and they thought the same thing. Service was terrible. How many times does one need to ask for a high chair before actually getting it, especially when there were only 3 other tables. It took forever to get our food. Refills were few and far between. I got the brisket dinner with rice and gravy and baked beans. Brisket was DRY!! Rice was not good and had an odd looking and tasting dark brownish gravy. Beans had a slimy stringy substance in it. Sis in law got the chicken dinner which was equally dry. Same gross gravy on her mashed potatoes. Husband got the pulled pork which he liked but I thought it tasted like the chicken that my mother in law ordered. I got an order of steamed veggies for my baby, which were totally frozen. His Grandma got the chicken salad which was mostly iceberg and giant shavings of carrots. Funny thing is the lady who made the salad said, "Wow the salad looks really good" Who compliments themselves in front of their customers and why would she be surprised that it looks good?! The sauces on the table had no discernable difference. Perhaps its been sitting on the tables too long? Not a return place for us.

Wow! We have lived in Azusa for five years and just visited Canyon City Barbecue last weekend. The pulled pork is great. The exterior doesn't look very inviting, but you will be surprised when you walk inside -- the place was hopping on a Saturday afternoon. The interior is sort of country diner decor, not fancy, but clean. The service was fast and attentive. The menu is extensive, but I'm guessing that the pork barbecue is the favorite. There are numerous trophies on display from recent local barbecue competitions. Definitely check it out.

I love this place. I haven't been to many BBQ places but to me, this one is the best. I always get the two meat combo with pulled pork and St Louis spare ribs. With a salad and fries. They have two BBQ sauces on the table. A sweet one and a tangy one. I grab them both and completely cover everything I order(salad w/ ranch and fries as well) So freakin good. I definitely recommend this place to anyone. Drinks are "Self Serve" so don't expect the waitress' to keep your glass full(even though most of the time they do) :)

As I drove home on the 210 freeway I felt like I was drunk....drunk on meat. I saw large pigs driving down the freeway dowsed in sauce. Billboards looked like plates of meat. My vision was fulled intoxicated by meat, meat meat. Times like this I am very glad to be a carnivore. These guys make a mean pulled pork, and the sauce is deadly.

The beers are cheap and they have a decent selection. It is a must try if you haven't tried it already!!!! Plus they have 2 kinds of homemade BBQ Sauce!

Ok so I consider myself to be romantic from time to time, and im like you know what I am going to surprise my girl and take her to Canyon City BBQ, cause shes an avid meat eater. Anyway we roll up and her eyes are as big as basketballs, and I am pretty damn excited myself because I had been wanting to come here for years. We order the pick 4 special which we got ric, tri-tip, pulled pork, and brisket. Everything was so juicy flavorful, fall off the bone goodness. I was washing out bbq sauce from my beard for a week. wow...... I mean seriously it is so freaking amazing when I was done eating I wanted to drive around the block and come back. The decor is rad, you get to see all types of pictures, trinkets and shit of basically what you came to eat..PIG. My girl loved it so much I thought she was going to have to go to bathroom for an underwear change. I cant stress enough that every meat eater needs to come here to feast, our waitress was awesome. The waitress's look like christian bales sisters in the fighter. Also get the special where you can choose the 4 meats if you are with a date, or whoever. Its an amazing deal, inexpensive and perfect for 2. I would be a horrible employee working here because by time I would get the food out to the customer half their shit would be gone.

Just because I am not writing paragraphs and paragraphs of good things about this place doesn't mean it isn't good! This place is great! Pretty decent BBQ... In fact pretty darn good BBQ! and because the price is very reasonable for what you are getting. I give this a 4 out of 5.... even a 4.5, if it existed! Great job, Canyon City BBQ. Ive had you twice; once in 2008/2009 and once in 2012. I hope to visit you again very shortly! --------------------------------------------------------------- great honey butter and cornbread baked beans were good very tender brisket and really good taste as well very delicious smokey bbq sauce great ortega melt

I was sold on this place as soon as I got out of the car. You can smell the meaty, bbq goodness before you even get through the front door. Back in the City of Angels and hankering for some bbq for two days! After hitting up most of the nation, I gotta say this bbq is my favourite so far. No goofy white bread and pickles like in the Kansas City area! For dinner I had the 2 meat combo - pork ribs and the brisket. It's rare that my bbq meal comes slathered in bbq sauce! The brisket was falling apart. I have no clue how they sliced it. A little dry, in some places but the bbq sauce balanced it out well. The ribs were excellent as well - well seasoned and falling off the bone. Coleslaw was good and the beans were spicy and had almost as much pork in them as the ribs. My eyes popped out of my head as I saw what other people were ordering and copious amounts of food that was brought out. Wine and beer only, with a decent selection for BBQ in this neck of the woods. The bbq sauce was very good. Basic sweet tomato based and a spicy version - not really spicy for my taste, but it doesn't need to be. Be prepared to use half your bottle of bbq sauce for your already well bbq-sauce-drowned meal. If I lived down the street from this place, they'd be lifting me out of the front wall of my house with a forklift - I'd come by this place several times a week until my girth prevented me from walking/driving, then I'd use the disability payments to hire someone to pick up the carry out. This restaurant is about 30 mins. away from where I usually stay when I'm in the L.A. area for business, but I'm definitely hitting this place up every time I come out here.

First time trying this place after hearing how good it is, and wow, the best BBQ I have had! We went for an early dinner and thank god we did cause by the time we left the place was packed! Would highly recommend to anyone!

I'm not the biggest fan of bbq but this place is legit. the best bbq i've had. my favorite item is the tri-tip roast beef dip. the beef is is tender and cooked to perfection and i'm not sure if the bread is but it tastes as if it's baked fresh daily. there are two bbq sauces on the table. the one in the yellow bottle is more tangy and suggest to be paired with pork items while the other sauce is for beef and chicken. with this dis i actually prefer the sauce made for pork. i've also tried the pulled pork sandwich and the tennessee tostada. the tosda is also a pulled pork item served with veggies, tortilla chips, cheese and jalapeno-ranch dressing. although items are also tasty, i still suggest you go with teh tri-tip. both times i've been the service has been great. it does take a while for your food to come out but this is the case with a lot of good food.

I haven't written a review for this place yet?! All I can say is that if you like bbq you have to at least try this place Coming from the SGV this is the best and closest place there is to get American bbq. The food is great and the next best part is the price. A full rack of ribs for less than $20, that's reason enough to check this place out.

Had the pulled pork sandwich. It was delicious and a must try. The pork was so juicy and moist. The hot links are GOOD and HOT! I love spice and these links hit the spot. Don't forget to get some biscuits with some extra honey butter sauce.

Their food may be spectacular but I will never know. Why you ask? Because 45+ minutes to order and fill a SINGLE TO GO order is patently absurd. I arrived at 5:10 and there were all of four tables already seated and eating. Quick survey of the place starts to set off the WTF alarms in my head. Front of the house is dingy but I don't spot any of the telltale signs of infestation. So I cut them some slack. I look through the order window to see the dish washing station and dishwasher in to close for comfort proximity to food and food prep areas. However cleaning supplies are far enough away from food and there is enough care that I can over look that as well, however that point I'm inclined to say thanks but no thanks. However I am a brisket slut and I've been craving BBQ for a while, so again I cut them slack. Then the wheels totally fall off. I glance at the menu spot the brisket plate deicide on my sides and I'm ready to go. So with FOUR count 'em four people working the front of the house I get told by the same vapid girl that it'll be "just a minute" every few minutes while she and the others scurry around doing everything but take an order, seat patrons, etc you know do the job they should be doing. Mean time a significant line has formed behind me and all of us are being blissfully ignored. Said girl finally takes my order at 5:26 and I proceed to wait and wait and wait and wait some more. I am far more patient and lenient with this place than I would be with ANY place else based solely on it's reputation and on my desire for BBQ. However at 5:55 I asked for my money back and walked out, and will never step foot in this place again. Pat Neely himself could offer to personally cook and serve me brisket at this place on a gold platter and I wouldn't show.

Tried this spot based on a friends rec. Ordered out. Food was great, employees were friendly. Easily one of my new favorite spots. If you live in the area, you gotta try it.

O MAN!!!!! I have been looking for a great bbq spot in the SGV forever now and we have just found it!!! We ordered the sampler, pulled pork, and chicken plate. The sampler had ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork, links, corn bread, and baked beans. The meat on the ribs fell of the bone (which is great!), the chicken was moist (+), the brisket and pulled pork was very tender (best!), corn bread was sweat and moist (+), and the baked beans had some brisket in them which gave it a great flavor. This is just a great spot to eat some really really good bbq!! We will be going back soon and often!! GOOD EATS PEEPS!!

If you're around the area and craving BBQ style food, you need to get your butt over here to get your grub on. I recommend the pulled pork and the beef briskets. Those are by far the most popular meats here. However everything else I have tried its been pretty darn good. Get here early, they close by 8pm and sometimes there's a bit of a wait.

I gave it one star because its required, not because they deserved it! Went here last night with my family. The service was HORRIBLE. If you don't want to be a server then do us ALL a favor and don't work as one. The server seemed as though we were bothering him. Then once we gave him our order he comes back to tell us they didn't have Tri Tip. Why not tell your customers what you DON'T have when they order instead of letting them order it, then come back 5mins later and say you don't have it? I mean its not difficult, its customer service. Not only did we have bad service but my pulled pork was cold and tasted like they flopped it on the plate and just through some bbq sauce on it. I've been here before when they actually grilled it and made it warm and crispy. Last but definitely not least, we found a HAIR in our food! Words cannot explain how upset we were. Horrible service, cold food and hair as a topping. Wow. I will NEVER come back and would recommend you all inspect your food before digesting someone's hair! They didn't offer to give dessert for the inconvenience or discount the bill. This place is DISGUSTING. Never again!

Disgusting RIBS!!!!!! STAY/ AWAY!!!! They claim to smoke their ribs for hours, thats bullshit!!!! My ribs were chewy with a thick layer of crust that surrounded the ribs and were either recooked from the day before or were baked. Also the most unappetizing spice rub on the meat and the most disgusting ketchup tasting bbq sauce. When the creators of the television show "Restaurant impossible" came up with their idea for failing restaurants they must have walked into this place. Food was horrible the interior made me feel like I was at some truck stop in the middle of nowhere, it was dingy, smelly, and dirty. This place is doing everythIng wrong. My rack of ribs included two bland sides, the mashed potatoes were cold and the potato salad was warm. What the hell. Maybe they only smoke their meat on certain days either way it still sucks.

Its taken me a while to review this place for two reasons. 1. I was kinda disappointed, 2. its always closed when I want to go back and try it. 1. I expected spicy bbq... instead I got sweet bbq which totally threw me off my chair. The food is good but not the type of bbq I was looking for. 2. its always closed on Mondays! :(

Okay over the past couple weeks I got a chance to visit this place again several times which provided an opportunity to try quite a few menu items. Most of them were sandwich items such as tri-tip, pulled pork, beefeater (brisket sandwich), patty melt, a couple of burgers, and the chicken plates. I gotta admit everything was pretty good. Service was adequate and after a few days they actually knew me by name at that point. A couple of things I noticed is quite a few people there ordered their 'loaded baked potato' and that appeared to be a popular menu item. That dish is a potato with butter, sour cream, and cheese and then topped with either brisket or pulled pork or chicken. I need to try this one next time. The place gets pretty crowded at lunch time and sometimes service can be a little slow. I notice the local fire department eats here quite often and you know that firemen really do find the best eateries in the local area. I wish they'd add sides to their lunches and not charge extra for them, but of course that's because I'm frugal. I'll definitely be back again soon.

Just got home from my first time eating at Canyon City Barbeque with my wife. Ok now that you know the setup to this here is how it went. I had heard from a previous review that someone got the sampler plate and was told they where likely not going to finish it. So challenge accepted! I ordered the sampler plate which comes with their pulled pork, brisket, 3 pork ribs, chicken and 2 hot links. My wife ordered the pulled pork swiss onion sandwich. My experience. The food is as good as the positive reviews say it is! Dont know how this place can get bad reviews. The pulled pork is tender and falls apart, the brisket, well crap I couldnt pick it up because it was just melting right off the fork. The ribs fell off the bone easy, but where a bit chewy at some points. The chicken was like the brisket, it just melted the moment I touched it. The hot links though seemed generic. If you ever bought the andouli sausages from a supermarket then thats pretty much the flavor of them, still very good, but not super amazing. My wife's experience however was... upsetting. She took three bites of her sandwich and found a large variety of ways to explain how she could vomit. I tried the sandwich and honestly it didnt taste any different from my own pulled pork. She said it was the BBQ sauce, which again, I personally felt tasted fantastic. So for a good measure I will describe the BBQ sauce they use. My wife and I both agree that its got a very sweet flavor at first and then starts a slow spicy roll down your throat. My wife said its the sweet that really bothered her and made her feel sick. So the meal was cut short but I personally feel the food is amazing and if im lucky I might be able to go back again some time. I will also add the service all be it a bit slow at times was very friendly and helpful. The young lady that was helping us really tried to help me out after she found out about our trouble. I hope this helps anyone out there!

This place is soooo good!! Got the sampler plate the first time and enjoyed every single item. The meat is so tender, juicy and full of flavor. I shared with my bf and still had left overs. Second time I went I got the beef ribs and they were incredible. Meat fell right off the bone. Can't wait to go back and take my family there. The owner was also really nice and attentive...which is always a plus.

Good portions at a good price. Their bbq sauce has great flavor. The meat is nicely barbecued. Its flavorful and not dry. To get: mashed potato with gravy, thick gravy with, meat chunks. And corn bread. Sweet, corny and holds nicely, together.

The only thing that keeps me from weighing 300 pounds is the fact that this place is far enough away from my home to prevent daily visits. My vice of choice? The brisket. My work occasionally caters this place for luncheons, and they bring in trays of brisket cut like London Broil. Glorious. Last week, I decided to stop by here after work to bring some food home for the weekend. After perusing the menu for a brisket dinner, I was dismayed to find my only brisket option came in the form of a sandwich. (Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me at the time to ask if they had just brisket). For some reason, I found the brisket in the sandwich to be a bit dry, so I don't know if the bread soaked up the extra juices or what, but it just wasn't the same as what I was used to. I haven't tried any of the other BBQ options, as I am one of those eaters that finds something that they like, and they stick with it. The cornbread and beans are both good. The staff at the restaurant is welcoming and friendly, so it was a pleasure to actually visit the place, which isn't fancy but meets most of the qualities you'd expect of a BBQ place. Especially the self-serve soda fountain to wash back all of that BBQ goodness.

We tried this place based on a recommendation from my cousin. We don't agree on everything, but we definitely agree on this! The food is fantastic. We shared the sampler platter, which came with hot links, chicken, ribs, brisket and two sides. We chose the mashed potatoes and baked beans and ordered a side of rolls. Honestly, there really isn't anything I can say that's negative. The place is kind of small, but it's charming in its own right. We love BBQ and will definitely come back here for more.

I'm originally from Texas and being from Texas I've had some excellent BBQ and this is the closest you can get to Texas BBQ.. I've been in California for 12 years now and I've tried many places for BBQ out here and have not found anything that comes close to as good as Canyon City BBQ in California. This place has some of the most tender & juicy brisket sandwiches ever!! I love this place and so has everyone else that I have brought here since I first learned about it. The quality of the food has never gone down and they always treat you like family here. Can't wait to come back here.. Thanks for everything Canyon City BBQ!! Keep up the great work!!

This place is amazing. Their home made BBQ sauce tastes awesome. I bought some and always have my own bottle at home to cook with. My husband and I have been here a few times and the service is eh. I mean, you get what you need and they are nice, but its nothing special. Beware, this place gets PACKED. Go during off hours to be sure you dont have a long wait. (Ive tried going the weekend evening a few times and the wait is over an hour) Everything I have tried on the menu is good. For a California BBQ place, this place is awesome. The sweet tea isnt real southern sweet tea, but its still good too.

My family and I have been pigging out at Canyon City for around 3 years now, it is easily my favorite BBQ joint around. Let's put it like this the day after tomorrow I'm leaving for Africa (Seriously I am:) and were do you think my friends and I are going to dinner tomorrow? Yes Canyon City BBQ! I can't think of a better place to eat before i am deprived of my favorite foods for half a month. Everything is awesome on the menu, haven't had anything i didn't enjoy. But my usual is the pulled pork plate with two sides (Corn bread and baked beans yum:) The prices here are very reasonable especially for how much food you are given, I've never left this place hungry. If there is a complaint it is that it isn't open on Monday's or Tuesday's, but hey that may just be me being picky. Try it out you WONT be disappointed!

Was here yesterday and picked food up. Was pleasantly surprised to find a decent BBQ joint in Southern California. Having been to really good BBQ in Texas this place in Azusa really takes the time to slow cook rather than flash grill there BBQ. Ordered the Pulled Pork Plate & the loaded spud. sides of corn bread and baked beans. Enjoyed the BBQ sauce on the meat which was also different from what was on the potato. Its a bit of a drive for me but I can definitely see going back to this place.

This was a great off the beaten path find. I got off the highway to hit some gas and there it was... the look that catches the eye: that hidden gem that you know you just found. The unassuming exterior opens into a pack home style dinning area with plastic squirting bottles of homemade BBQ sauces. and the meat.... to die for. when in the area... check it out

EXCELLENT BBQ! If you love BBQ beef brisket, this is the place! Best you will EVER find for sure. It's so good that we phone in orders for three pound trays that we pick up and eat at home over 2-3 days! Add different side dishes each day and it's as good as going out to dinner! Stuff some of the succulent brisket in warmed King's Hawaiian Rolls and you have tasty sliders instantly. Great meal solution for working families and perfect for an easy potluck dish. Your friends will thank you! Tender, sliced brisket, smothered in flavorful BBQ sauce. Just delicious! Thank you Canyon City BBQ! I'm a tough critic and your beef brisket deserves a perfect 10!

Review 700 has gotta be BBQ After a pretty long and exhausting day at Raging Waters with my son and younger daughter we decided to give one of my bookmarks a try. The Canyon City Barbeque. yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… I swear I ate here a long time ago and it was a Mexican place. I digress, I came for some BBQ! I love me some BBQ and smoked meats and as I've had this place bookmark for a very long time it seemed the perfect choice. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic waiter who quickly brought out some ice cold sodas for us to refresh ourselves after a hot day in the sun I think I had 4-5 refills. There were only a few patrons when we arrived (many more by the time we left) and I was sweatin' it because it was 40 min 'til closing and thought they'd be out of stuff, but luckily they weren't. FOOD ORDERED: I ordered a rack of the baby back spareribs with mashed potatoes and gravy and Texas garlic toast. yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… My ribs were a bit of a disappointment as they appeared to be sitting in a hot-locker a while too long and were dark and looked overcooked. The ribs were meh. Some way overcooked, some tender. I didn't taste any smoke either. Ribs 2.5**Star However I found the holy grail of GRAVY! The beef brisket gravy served with my mashed taters! This is the BEST BEEF GRAVY I've ever eaten period! yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… So good I got an extra cup to take home. Gravy 6 *****Stars My son had a four meat combo with mashed potatoes & gravy and corn bread. yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… The meats included hotlinks, beef brisket, beef tri tip, and pulled pork. I helped him pick it out so that I (we wink) could sample as many things as possible. We shared our plates and compared notes. Hotlinks ... These were some tasty critters. Not overwhelmingly hot but just enough and charred a tad to make them awesome. 4****Stars Brisket ... This was a perfectly cooked brisket one I'd get again. Beefy, with a nice dry rub crust and nicely smoked. 4.5****Stars Tri tip .... A deliciously seasoned and smoky cut of beef cooked just right. 4****Stars Pulled Pork .... Very tender with a hint of smoke. Went well with the mustard sauce. 4 Stars**** My daughter had the Kraft macaroni and cheese. No BS at CC BBQ they call it what it is, unlike so many others who fake it. yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… My youngest loves Kraft M&C so this was a hit. She inhaled it before I even had 2 ribs down. 4****Kid Stars 2nd TRIP FOOD: While we were eating the previous week I saw someone get a loaded potato and man it looked good. I had to try one! OK so I loved my brisket gravy so much I had to return the following week for more. A 45 min drive I may add but this time I had a plan. The following week it was packed with a line. But me being me I ordered at the bar. Oh yea Lagunitas IPA on tap! yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… A beef brisket plate with a side of chili and tater salad. The brisket was again on point and the chili was on the sweeter side but still tasty. yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… Again tasty brisket. But this time I asked for one of the LOADED SPUDS with butter, sour cream, cheese, opting for the chopped brisket and rather than bbq sauce I asked them to smother it with the awesome brisket gravy! yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… I created a masterpiece! Not pretty, but soooo gooood! You gotta try this! 6******Stars! SERVICE n STUFF The service was five-star as our drinks were refilled multiple times and our food was brought up rather quickly and we were checked up on several times as well. The bathrooms were well kept, and the resto was spotless. There's a decent amount of seating and a beer bar for waiting. A route 66 vs BBQ motif that's cute and well kept. yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… The staff and owner were all super friendly. Give CCBBQ a try your stomach will thank you! Ask for the Roy B Special Loaded Spud! yelp.com/biz_photos/cany… You know I'll be back!

Came here after a long hike around the Azusa mountains and I think this will be my go-to place for food after hiking in that area! The service was pretty standard. They were a little bit slow. The food was pretty great. I got the sampler plate which had everything on it. My favorites were the BBQ chicken and pulled pork. Their beans were great too! As were their cornbread

This little hole in the wall place is so bomb! It is always super packed but they also offer the call in take out service, just give them a call and they will have your food ready in a few minutes. I've done that plenty of times and they are always on point on their time and the food is still super hot when I get home. I've also dined in and it has also been a great experience. If you love BBQ, you must check this place out. From their tri tip to their pulled pork, it is legit. Their portions are also decent in size (big enough to share, if you feel nice). -My go to: *Pulled Pork Plate ($12.99) I love their pulled pork, the light smokey taste to it with their tasty bbq sauce has always hit the spot. Their pulled pork is so juicy and flavorful, you can even have it in a quesadilla! (which I've also tried). The plate also comes with two sides. -Sides I've had: *Cole slaw *Baked beans- drool!! really good!! *Macaroni salad *Corn bread- the best! You can skip: *Chicken- it's been on the drier side both times that I've ordered it Ok, writing this review has officially made me hungry. Canyon City has been consistent and has not disappointed me. PS They also have salads, chili, burgers and sandwiches. Don't forget about dessert too. You should totally get a slice of their old fashion apple pie and/or peach cobbler. Both are great!

My Friend recommended this eatery so I made it a point to stop in since I was in the area on sales calls on a Thursday. The parking lot behind the business was at capacity so I ended up parking across the street . Once checking in, I was seated in the nearly filled restaurant. The menu didn't offer a lunch menu but the waitress highly recommended the brisket which I ended up going with. The Brisket was so tender I cut it with my fork and my side choices of baked beans & Cole slaw were both yummy. The portion of brisket was generous and I even took home leftovers. Service was solid and friendly. I thought for lunch it was a bit on the pricey side even though the quality was great!

Really friendly service, great atmosphere! When I was first asked if I want to get BBQ, I really didn't want to go at all. Haven't found a place in California worth my money for something i can do better myself! I ordered the loaded spud with chix and the chicken was cooked perfect! Great sauce, however the spicy BBQ I didn't find to be spicy, still good though. I recommend going and trying this place out when you come down from the mountains!

January 17, 2015 Wait! I thought I wrote a review for this years ago! I guess not. Well, a little over two years ago, while I first started dating my ex, I brought him here for some good ole BBQ. The meats were so dang perfect! The meat will just fall off the bones. Currently, I brought my mom here for some BBQ. It was random and spontaneous, and totally worth it. We ordered the sampler for what I believe to remember for it to be $23.99. Sampler of meats with two sides of your choice. I ordered fries and exchanged it for sweet potato fries and a side of macaroni salad. Mom love it and I was happy that she enjoyed it. I say, if you aren't down to drive to San Diego for Phil's BBQ, then stop by Canyon City BBQ! It's worth it, think of the tastebuds! Please! Won't someone think of the tastebuds!!!! Lol that was a reference to Simpsons' Evelyn Lovejoy. Hope I made you laugh.

This place has remodeled the inside since I last was here, but he food remains to be as delicious as I last remember it. My drive up from San Diego was well worth it. Please open another location in San Diego, we are in great need of a good bbq place down here!

Finally got to try to place after listening to my friends rave about this local favorite for months! Came here to meet up with friends and was surprised that there's a mini bar in the front when you enter. Lots of seating! And enough to fit our group of 6! Their bbq was good!! We ordered the pick 4 + 2 sides plate to share - pork ribs, tri-tip, brisket, and half a chicken along with the cornbread and mashed potatoes. Pork ribs and brisket, melt in your mouth goodness. The tri-tip was good but I thought it was a little dry for my taste. The chicken was delish!!! As for the sides, they're just an added filler. Cornbread was good! Mashed potatoes lacked butter and the gravy needed a little help. Next time I'll get the fries and beans since that's what the majority of our group ordered. Definitely come here for the bbq!!! It's a local gem!

This place is great. Friendly staff, delicious food and the best prices for what you get. I love the pick two meal, you'll get two choices of meat (I love the tri tip and the ribs, but the brisket and hot links are also great!) and two choices of sides. The mashed potatoes are filled with brisket meat and gravy. My husband and I come here regularly and I have never been disappointed.

Best BBQ hands down!! Even for the price too! It's a little hole in the wall joint and if you drive too fast on the one way street, you'll pass it. It's a lot bigger inside than what it looks. Parking is a little tough, but you can park on the street as well. I got the beefeater sandwhich and gravy fries. Oh my gosh! So damn amazing! The sandwich has cheese, brisket & green chilies. It's not spicy it's for flavor only. The gravy on the fries also had bits of trip tip in it which made it so much more awesome! It was so mouth watering. I know what you're thinking... Gravy on fries?! But don't knock it until you try it! Promise you'll love it, if not like it. My boyfriend got the two meat combo with two sides. He got the trip tip and beef brisket. It was so soft and moist. His sides were mashed potatoes and bread. He loves it as well. We are sold on this spot and will be back!

Oh my Lord what can I say about Canyon City BBQ... Only that it's the freaking best BBQ in these here foothill cities. Got the beef brisket and it was perfectly rubbed with them spices and smoked oh so tender. Those hot links were great... I know my friend Farmer John when I see him. There St. Louis ribs were soft and falling off the bone. And those BBQ sauces were splendid. But then there were sides to choose from so I chose a bowl of chili and mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy on them taters was so flavorful and beefy it will knock your socks off! And that chili will blow you away with all that spice and flavor mixed to perfection. Good job Canyon City BBQ, I was skeptical but you blew me away!

As I am parking and strolling up to this joint with the munchkin, some of the absolute most delectable scents penetrate my olfactory senses... I am suddenly moved from a point of light hunger and annoyance to blissful anticipation. Heck I think I drooled a bit... sorry if you saw me. I may have looked like a disheveled wino following his nose to the door of this joint. To be honest I was relieved to have made it after a ridiculous commute. So you walk in the door and you have traipsed through a portal taking you from the suburban hell of one way streeted Azusa into a sensual grub paradise. The walls are covered in wood BBQ related signs and license plates from all over the states. Exactly the type of ambiance you would desire from a sit down BBQ joint that can never seemingly be achieved by any chains anywhere ever. The menu is mostly Chicken and Ribs. Yeah they have a bunch of other stuff... but those are their pushed items. So I ended up getting the 2 item combo. I shouldn't have =\ The chicken was unbelievable! Falling off the bone and the bones separated so easily I was in stunned disbelief. The taste was exactly what this place smelled like, ridiculously beyond awesome and delicious. I have never had such good bbq chicken in my life. Pro Tip: DON'T ORDER THE RIBS! Then there were the ribs. My stepdad and I both got some super thin dried out hard to chew chunks of meat and bone. It was later on in the evening when we ordered around 7 and they close at 8 so we must have gotten the dregs of the bbq ribs. These things were tough as can be. At one point I thought I was chewing on leather. At least the ribs the munchkin got had had a layer of fat on them and were pretty succulent and moist. Thus they were still tasty. But I was very disappointed with the dry husks that they called ribs. Everything that the chicken was, the ribs were not =( I also got to taste some of the tri tip. This was done very well also. It had a nice flavor, visible smoke ring, and when combined with their BBQ sauce, was beyond savory delightfulness. Pro Tip#2: Look for street parking. Their "lot" only has 4 spaces in it. To go with dinner we had a variety of sides, the munchkin got the fries which were totally typical bleh fries, my mom got the coleslaw and loved it as well as a baked spud which was average, my stepdad got the corn bread and a house salad, and I got the garlic bread, cornbread and salad. The garlic bread was more like homemade texas toast and was every bit as tasty as I had hoped. I did have a lil wish for more garlic on it, but I love garlic more than most others. The cornbread was moist and tasty but came alive when combined with the honeybutter. The salad could have come from a ready pac bag, but who knows maybe it didn't... haha The service that we got was great. They were consistently checking on our drinks, any missing food items, and if there was anything that they could for us. This is what got them to stay at a 4 star with the chicken and tri tip... but those ribs almost pulled it down to a 3... So check this place out and try their bbq sauce as it is excellent. Just anticipate something other than the ribs as my experience with them was piss poor.

Must try the pulled pork quesadilla with side of bbq sauce....mmmmm I would give 5 stars but the french fries are very bland and mushy. I wish I lived closer.... The qusadilla is a generous filling size with tons of cheese oozing out and the pork is cooked to perfection.

This was a new place my family and I wanted to try for Father's Day. The wait was extremely long and waiting for the food was even longer. I don't know what the other tables around us got but everyone definitely got their food before our sad little table ( and we were seated before them). I give it a three star because the ribs were good and so was their pulled pork. My tri tip was too chewy and hard to cut with my knife, but the waitress's said it was the last of it. Maybe if we went on a different day the service wouldn't have taken so long and we would have been attended to more. My recommendations would be the mash potatoes, the St. Louis ribs, and definitely the bbq pull pork.

The food and service here is pretty darn great. But their portions are embarrassingly small for the price. 16 dollars without tip for two small pile of meats and two sides is robbery. When I try to add on a side of tri-tip to my tri-tip plate to make my meal more substantial, they say I have to buy a whole other plate instead. Either they are making money hand over fist or something is wrong with their system..

As BBQ goes it's Okay! Pros: 1. Consistent quality 2. Good Cuts of Meat 3. Fair Portions for the Price 4. Overall An Okay Value Cons: 1. Unsauced Meats have no flavor! 2. Tri-Tip is shaved causing it to go cold rapidly. 3. They are pretty much the only game in town. I've been fortunate enough to have the real thing in various BBQ cities around the country and when I look for BBQ, I look for three things: Flavor, Flavor, Flavor! So much so that I have been inspired to learn how to wood smoke, and BBQ meats myself... That said I have visited Canyon City a few times over the years and I can honestly say it has been consistent. Now, as far as flavor goes, unfortunately this does not have much of it! In my experience, Que should have flavor if it is unsauced (dry). Then sauce and any extras to take the flavor profile up a notch... The flavor of Canyon City is in the sauce. It is a tomato based sauce which is sweet with a back hint of smoky spice, but over all a bit middle of the road. I'm guessing it's a bottle sauce that is either doctored or made from a 3rd party. As for the meat itself, it always seems to be of good quality, good doneness, and you get a descent sized portion. However they thin shave their tri-tip and unless you eat within 5 to 10 minutes of it being served, it goes cold really fast.

I'm going to start with the positives. The service was excellent. The meat was tender and moist. The cornbread was perhaps the best I've ever had. The beer and wine selection was better than expected. The stark looking outside belies the comfortable, living room like interior. The regulars here clearly love the place. On the not-so-positive side, I really hated the candy-sweet sauces. The meat, while tender and moist, had no hint of smokiness. I only tried the brisket and the St. Louis ribs. I want to try the beef ribs and the hot link next time, but I don't see myself becoming a regular here.

Spectacular little treasure in Azusa! Stopped in for a quick pick up order. The place was packed and luckily I had called it in. I ordered 3 sampler platters to take back for Mothers Day! There was a tremendous amount of food and everything was delicious!! It fed about 7 adults and 2 kids! Everything is so good but I do have to say it was the best pulled pork that I have had in a long time. Ok... EVER best pulled pork ever! I cant wait to go back and try some more!!! Thanks for making our Mothers Day lunch a success!!

This place is one of a kind and not fancy. It's built into an old house in Azusa and they make up in quality with BBQ meats that are tender and great tasting. They recently made the entry way a bar where you can eat and or drink some brew. 2 TV screens now adorn the bar. The dining room is basic tables and chairs and their is always extra BBQ sauce at each table. Great pricing and you get big servings. This appears to be family owned and operated.

Canyon City BBQ came highly recommended from a stranger I met from Pasadena. I took the hour drive from my house with a big chunk of my family. We went for an early dinner and were seated promptly with a party of 7. The space is small and looks like it may have been a house in its former life. Although small, there were about 15 tables and enough for our party. The menu had a good selection and multiple ways to combine BBQ meats to get what you want. They also had a lot of sides to choose from and most meals came with two sides of your choice. I ordered the beef ribs. When they came I was sort of surprised because there was a lot of bone showing. After picking one up I could tell these may have lost some meat while cooking. The meat that was on them had flavor but had a lot of fat. I would try something different next time for my meat. I ordered corn bread and mashed potatoes for the sides. They were both awesome! My brother in law and I were bummed though because we saw a guy behind us with way beefier and meaty looking ribs. I'd return if I was in the area but I wouldn't drive an hour again for this BBQ.

"WHATS OKRA" ... We asked for collared greens & okra and our waitress had NO idea what okra was... How is this even considered a good BBQ place? I came in with three friends- We waited 10 minutes with about 5 other people, without being acknowledged. My friend finally asked, after three other people came in, "Is there a hostess or do we seat ourselves" and FINALLY someone seated us. So.. There was that. I read a lot of the reviews and settled on the brisket- THAT is NOT "tender" brisket, people!! Everything that comes out is smothered in sweet BBQ sauce, there's no smokey flavor, but it smells good walking up.. Maybe it's those ribs they don't serve until 4- I won't be back to find out. People, if you consider this good BBQ, you need to get out more

Fantastic! The combo was 23$ and had 3x portion. It was very sizable. Look at the before and after picture! The tangy barbecue sauce was a must have. And I used it a tad bit too liberally on the meats. I had the bbq ribs and the slaw and the link before I was full. Also the baked potato salad! Everything was smokey and tender! Is highly recommend! Unfortunately they are not open Monday's and Tuesday's for some strange reason!

This was the best bbq I have eaten in California. We ordered the sampler platter, which came with pulled pork, hot link, brisket, chicken, and ribs. Everything was cooked to perfection. My favorite was the pulled pork, which was so flavorful and moist and the sauce they use for the pork is to die for. Our sides were coleslaw, beans, and potato salad and each accompanied the food perfectly. We left with very satisfied bellies and can't wait to go back.

Yummy comfort food. Showed up 5 minutes before they were closing and the customer service was good. They ran out of a lot of stuff but makes sense since it was so near closing time. The baked potatoe is something to get here

Damn, who knew you could find such authentic Texas BBQ in the SGV!! If it's your first visit, I definitely recommend the sampler ($22) which comes with beef brisket, hot link, quarter chicken, pulled pork, and three bbq spare ribs along with two sides of your choice. I feel like it's a better deal than the four meat combo which is $1-2 cheaper. But either way, it's enough food for two people or one really big dude with an appetite. The sauces they put on their meat have a touch of sweetness, tang, and spice perfectly balanced to complement the meat. The brisket is super tender and falls apart when trying to scoop it up with a fork. The chicken was super moist and had a nice glaze coating of bbq sauce. The pulled pork was generous and you're gonna need more sauce on the side to spread on the mound they give you. The hot links were only ok for me as well as the ribs. They both tasted good but not completely differentiating them apart from any other bbq restaurant. I would liked the ribs more but they were a bit tough and could've used some more time in the smoker. The interior and exterior isn't much to look at but the food is amazing and portions are generous. If I could guess, the whole restaurant was probably once a house but converted to seat the public. The also have a covered RV section at the back of the restaurant so you can actually see how they smoke and bbq the food before actually going inside. I could definitely come back here a ton more times but fyi, come any other time besides the prime lunch and dinner hours. It gets packed quick at noon and 6pm and your wait could be a while.

After a long days work/class the last thing I want to do is make dinner-- also the last thing I want to do is drive far... With that said, This Jem is about a mile from my home! It has amazing BBQ, and I'm referring to the actual BBQ sauce and their seasoned meat which they spend hours marinating. I love the pulled pork sandwich and my husband got the BBQ ribs we were in heaven. The plate sizes where big too! The atmosphere is pretty laid back and country-like in an old restaurant so no need to get fancy to eat great food (I also love that)! If your in the area and craving some BBQ this is the spot to go!!

I ordered BBQ here for Fourth of July and everyone loved it! We got the beef ribs....tender falls right off the bone and amazing sauce! We also got the cole slaw and beans. The beans are made with brisket and as someone who doesn't really like beans I can vouch that these are my favorite beans I have ever eaten! Great prices and very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend canyon city BBQ. My only complaint is the small parking lot. For being in the suburbs, parking is slightly difficult to find. Could have been just that day, but I had to park pretty far away.

My first time coming here and sorry but I have a few things to say...... Basically the food was good and the service was horrible! We first came in and the server already had a bad attitude when putting two tables together for our group. I'm sorry but you work in a customer service environment so leave the attitude at the door and clean up your look! We came on a early Sunday afternoon and they were all out of rib tips, tri tips and barely had enough ribs for one of our orders. Not even saying sorry just like oh well attitude. We asked for our corn bread to come out before our meal because we were starving and it came out with our meal. Thanks for not paying attention. Our side dishes came out super late and they forgot one completely. The food however was really good. So they at least have that going for them. I'm I ever do come back I'll order to go and maybe by then they will have enough food to last the day and the service gets better.

Had brisket and 1/4 chicken plate, baked beans and side salad. Sauce and beans are really sweet and overwhelm the meat so it doesn't seem smoked or barbecued at all. Salads are iceberg, and the balsamic left a funny taste in my mouth. Two stars for good service and a pleasant dining room.

Starting with a 3 for now.... We came in before the dinner crowd after biking the Azuza mountain trail. Also note that I'm not a complete fan of wet BBQ and prefer dry rub. -ran out of tri-tip -ran out of beef ribs -sweet tea, was pretty good! -briscut- tender as can be. Suttle smoke flavor. We ordered them dry, but I should have said dry rub because it wasn't too savory. Slather the brown gravy for meat on meat perfection. -pulled pork- good, but nothing to write home about -forgot that they ran out of additional sides, like chili. They only had enough for orders of chili frito pie :( Our server seemed new and frazzled. He constantly went back and forth from the kitchen and told us what they were out of. I had to remind him about my side dish by the end of our meal. I left the coleslaw at the table because it tasted a little too water-downed. Be willing to try this place again just for the tri tip!!!!!

Worse service I have experienced. We called to make a special occasion order for father's day. Even though they were busy they took our order. Mind you, we ordered all of our food, for a big party, from them that day. When we went to pick up our order they tell us that they don't have any more ribs!! How can you place a order and then just tell someone you don't have it. That's why why you place orders so that stuff like that doesn't happen!! So we were left with no food to serve to people. I definitely won't be going back there and neither is any of our friends or family members. We don't support businesses that can't even deliver a simple order. Untrustworthy.

I would give it 5 stars, but came here yesterday and it was closed LoL And not all the items on the menu are avail such as cobbler or rib tips (depending on what left over) Customer service is ALWAYS excellent and I love that about Mom and Pop spots. Fast fresh and friendly service. Our waitress was very personal, funny. Didnt get her name but she was awesome. I love leaving a restaurant in a good mood Food was delish! Butter for cornbread MMMMMM.. Boysenberry pie a la mode is a fat asses heaven Spicy sausage yummy Pulled chicken OOOH and sweet tea all very delicious savory

The food is great. Love their tri-tip and their homemade BBQ. The service is pretty fast and the workers are all nice. Why I gave a 2 star? Well they don't take reservations. So if you are planning to have a bday dinner there or a group of friends to eat out...you need to go early and wait. Their place is not big so you might have to wait for a while. If you don't like waiting then don't go here.

Got the pulled pork plate and it's so delicious. Juicy meat and tangy barbecue sauce. Mashed potatoes with gravy and cornbread sides complimented it perfectly. I wish cornbread was slightly more moist but it was still really good. My friend got the loaded spud and I'm kind of jealous that I didn't get that one. It's loaded with cheesy goodness and a choice of meat. Next time, I'm so getting this one. Our waiter was awesome! But seemed to disappear for periods at a time. And everyone was friendly, the establishment has this very home-y feel. Will come back if I'm in the area.

Best barbecue I've had in a really long time. Where have I been???? The barbecue chicken is so tender and delicious. Half a chicken comes with the combo plate. The sauce is great!! Had a baked potato with brisket gravy...that gravy is probably the best I've ever had. The pork ribs were fall off the bone tender and delectable. They have really good jalapeno ranch dressing, too. It was pretty crowded. Beer and wine. Merlot was decent. Definitely returning here! Husband wants to try the beef ribs but they don't serve them until 4:30 and we were there at 4.

  • T M.

This place gets packed, so some patience is necessary. if u go too late, ribs, brisket, and such popular items can run out.. the finest BBQ isn't something u put on grill and plop out in 10 minutes. So it is understandable. Also, beef ribs available only after 4PM! This is the best BBQ place in Greater LA area. The meat doesn't get any better. Can't get this quality at Lucille's , tony Roma's , and such bigger names. Whatever problems people had to give this place an average of 4 stars, the food should easily bring it up to a full score.

There's almost always a wait here. You've to come when they are slow. Their bbq is very tasty and delicious. Especially their beef ribs! They also have really good sides that goes very well with their food.

Sooooooooooooo I've been trying to find quality BBQ in the San Gabriel Valley for a long time. I guess I have kind of found a place...sort of...perhaps. I've been here just once, last week, after trying to get over here for about three or four weeks during a bbq craving. In Southern California, I have only had good BBQ in L.A. and even that BBQ was inconsistent. To Canyon City I finally went. It's housed in a non-descript place in the middle of a residential neighborhood. You may miss it the first time...and even if you do see it, might have to circle back as parking is not ample. I won't say location is everything, but hopefully they'll be able to invest in a bigger lot. The parking was not a huge issue when I went but I can certainly see how it would become cumbersome on a Saturday when they are supposed to be especially busy. Onward. I called and after being put on hold for a moment, I ordered a full slab of the St. Louis Ribs which is a plate and comes with two sides. Cool, seems like a good value. I wanted the fruit and the Veggie of the Day. I asked what that Veggie was. The woman said they had no more Veggies. I mean, ok, I guess. Occasionally folks run out of stuff. No big deal. So, let me uhhhh, ok, let me have the fruit and the potato salad. She doesn't say anything about the P. Salad, just says, "How about the Garlic Toast?" Did you not hear what I said? Here's the thing: I can only assume one of two things: 1. You have nothing available but the Garlic Toast and the fruit, in which case your management sucks and you need to supply yourselves better. It was about an hour and a half away from closing.....but I doubted everything was out. 2. You have certain sides on certain days...in which case you should have either said or listed on the menu. The policy there was about as visible as their prices...which I will return to. I simply said, yeah, that's fine and was told, without mention of how much, that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I looked back on Yelp to see if they accepted credit cards and headed out. When I walked in, I was impressed with how big the place was on the inside and how the establishment had made room for everything. Kitchen, of course, to the right and to the left was a neat looking dining area. The guy who was seating folks told me to wait to the side for my take out order and when the lady comes out.....between the two of them....the service was bland. There was no smile, no real welcome. It's a BBQ joint that is going for some sort of authentic feel of something so I guess they are going for rugged cowboy instead of welcoming southern charm........or something. I tell her my name, she comes back with the order and there was an awkward pause as if I was supposed to know the price. How am I supposed to know the price...when...you...don't....have them online? Right. It was $25.06. My expectations grew. I got home and took everything out and immediately thought...I must take this picture for my fellow Yelpers. ONE piece of toast was included; ONE slice of watermelon was included. The ribs at least looked meaty but I then began to wonder about the other sides. Did a side of potato salad or baked beans come in a container that is more suitable for some ranch sauce on the side or what? Took out half of the slab and began to dig in. I wouldn't call it fall-of-the bone but it was pretty good. The sauce was sweetish and had some tang to it. Do you read the neutrality in my emotions? I really just was neither thrilled nor against the food. If I am in the BBQ mood, I won't scratch it off the list, but it certainly isn't a destination spot and judging from the hospitality, I don't think I'd need to stay there and eat, all of my food can be "To Go".

I don't get the 2 star comments. I have been here several times and the service and food are constantly wonderful. I came in today in a hurry. They didn't know that. They sat me down and I had our order in within five minutes and they were busy. The food came out in 5 minutes after placing the order. It was hot and it was great! What place asked you when you are leaving, "would you like a to go cup?" The rib tip plate is great. The portions are great. The service is great. They feel like family. I have brought my family to this place and I have brought customers to this place. Canyon city, you are fantastic! Keep it up. If I came in and received bad service, I would give them a second chance. Remember, they are human, we all have an off day. I will be back, with a ferocious appetite!

Visiting the Angeles National Forest, I thought I'd stop by here on my way back up the mountain and check out the BBQ. Really good food. I went there on a Friday night, they were busy and I was by myself so I sat at the counter. I was able to observe the crew in action and they do a great job. I ordered the brisket. It came with two sides and was around $15. In my humble opinion brisket can really be the qualifier for a BBQ joint. Theirs was delicious, moist and smoky. The portion was enough for two, but I gobbled it all down. The next day I visited Ren fair with my daughter and her husband. On our way back to camp we stopped again and got the sampler. Chicken, pulled pork, brisket, beef rib and hot link. Fantastic! I highly recommend. Don't be put off by the building, looks like some kind of private club. The staff is friendly, priced right, plenty to eat, and really tasty!

I really was hoping this would be a great BBQ place it was ok just ok the hot link was good the pulled pork didn't have much flavor and they didn't have all the sides available that were offered so we tried the cornbread ,beans and french fries the corn bread was really dry and the beans were okay I'm kind of a BBQ snob but "ribs to spare" in Covina is much better in flavor I don't think I'll come back just so you know we tried to sampler platter and rib tips plate and it was just still okay.

This is The Best Barbeque Place I've Had In a long Time The meats were so dang perfect! The meat will just fall off the bones. ! The cornbread was perhaps the best I've ever had. The beer and wine selection was better than expected.

Brisket! Brisket! Brisket! Get the brisket! Their delicious, tender, juicy, flavorful brisket is not to be missed! Price point and value is off the charts. I ordered a 2-item meat combo that came with 2 sides for $13.99! The meat was a generous portion - I ordered the aforementioned brisket and also the pork spareribs. The pork ribs were good, but nothing all that impressive. The brisket, however, knocked my socks off. Both meats were topped with bbq sauce, however, next time, I'm going to ask for them not to sauce them. I didn't care much for their bbq sauce and would have preferred to enjoy the brisket naked (on its own). For the sides I got a side salad and fruit (watermelon). The salad was your standard salad and was fresh. The watermelon was thinly sliced and a generous portion but barely edible (it was tasteless). Service was friendly. Overall a 3-star experience, but I'm rounding up for that brisket! The building is a little off-putting from the street, IMO, but inside is spacious and clean. Free parking in the adjacent lot or street.

I tried coming here a few times just to find out that it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. So I came here on a Wednesday and waited for 11am to come and for them to open. As time approached I saw some other workers start to stand in line. I sat waiting in curiosity and then saw one of the waitresses open the door. It was 11:01am. I was parked on the street because the parking lot was small and equipped for small vehicles only and I was in a giant work truck. I go in and sit down and immediately get asked for a drink and handed a menu. I just got water but I looked around and they had a TV on each side and license plates lining the interior of the restaurant. I ordered the brisket after the many reviews highlighting the brisket and got potato salad and baked beans. I waited for my food to be made and saw the waitresses hurrying to place menus and silverware on tables. It was about 11:15 when it started... people started coming in by the loads. I blinked and by 11:30 the restaurant was full. My picture was of the restaurant being half empty. The waitresses were hauling tushy trying to get to all the tables and keep the food going. I got my food and it was actually really good. I was pleasantly surprised. They had two different barbeque sauces to choose from. I liked the original that they put on the beef. I would definitely go back and now I know that being there when it opens is the thing to do. I am sorry for the bad stuff that other yelpers experienced, but for me ...I am a fan. I will be back!

So I was coming back from hiking from that damn mountain in pain and tried and my friend said lets get BBQ so we came here and ordered the two meat to sides combo and it was the tri tip and beef brisket and mash potatoes and rice and gravy with two hot link sausages AND IT WAS AMAZING ! I completely destroyed the whole meal. Super good can't wait to come here again !!!

Had another excellent meal there yesterday with a buddy. He got the pulled pork plate with baked beans and fries, and I got the pork sandwich, along with a bowl of chicken soup as a side. Everything was excellent. Had a nice slice of pie for dessert as well. A little crowded since we were there on Saturday at lunch time, but worth it. Highly recommended. Good food, nice service, pleasant atmosphere. You'll like it.

We have been coming back to this place and I would proudly say that they serve the best BBQ in Azusa, California. So good, so tender and so loved by me and my friends. Celebrated a friends birthday here and the service is awesome. Have tried a lot of BBQ restaurants and by far this is the place I go back to. Waiters are friendly and feels like home here. I enjoyed my pulled pork, spare ribs, beef brisket and hot links. What more can I say? I love it. I love it. I love it!

Amazing!!! Everything on the menu is simply delicious. By far the best place to come and enjoy over the top delicious BBQ. The food served here is always cooked the way you want it, how you want it, and how you asked for it. Service is always friendly and quick. The only bad part is that since the food here is soooooo delicious, sometimes there can be a wait. It can get annoying having to wait while your hungry, but once you take your first bite, you'll forget everything. I love the whole Texas feeling environment, and it's always fresh inside so don't worry about breaking a sweat. Everyone must try this place out, you WON'T be disappointed.

I didn't actually come here to eat the food, but rather, had it at a party I was at where the meal served was catered from here. I'm not a bbq person but I thought the stuff here wasn't bad at all. We had a selection of baby back ribs, brisket, hot links and chicken. The chicken was a little dry, unless you selected the dark meat. The baby backs fell right off the bone and was very tender and flavorful. The brisket was not dry either which was a good sign. My favorite though were the hot links, they were really tasty with a nice kick to it. They only got 2 sides -- potato salad and corn bread -- the latter came with honey butter as well. For someone who ordinarily loves corn bread and not potato salad, I actually liked the potato salad better than the corn bread which was crumbly and on the dry side. I couldn't tell you what the price point was, but flavor wise it was good, especially for catered food.

This is one of my favorite places!! The meat is absolutely delicious!! Like seriously anything on the menu is so great!! The portions are pretty big, so it can last for more than one day if you are not super hungry! And it is still very good the next day or even two days later!! To be honest, even though I love this place, I prefer to take out, because sometimes when it gets busy (and that happens pretty often), it gets sooo smoky and super loud!! But either way, it is a great place and the staff is so nice and kind!!!:) 5 stars!!!

This used to be my favorite place to eat. I used to tell everyone I met about their delicious food and friendly service. I'm sad to say, I can no longer endorse this restaurant. :( My husband and I have been coming here for about 3 years. The waitresses have watched my son turn from a baby into a boy and they always rememeber her and come over to say hello. The restaurant used to have a nice homey feel that I loved. That feeling is gone. They remodeled and everything changed. Their prices went up, their portions went down, and their service went right out the window. :( My husband, two sons, and I went to Canyon City on the Saturday before Father's Day. We were quickly seated and given menus. Our waitress came over, said hello, and gushed about our sons (we can't really blame her, they are super cute :)). Our drinks came quickly and then everything went wrong. It took her forever to come around to take our order even though we always order the same thing and were ready to go. Once we finally gave our order, we sat and waited....and waited...and waited. How long has it been? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? 15 minutes? Luckily I had checked us in on facebook as soon as she took our order. I looked back at the check in and to my surprise it had been 17 minutes. By the time ONE of the items we ordered came, it had been 22 minutes. Our drinks were long empty, our stomachs were growling, and our 1 year old was beyond restless. My husband asked to speak with a manager and we were told there was no manager. What? No manager? On a Saturday? On FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND??? I don't know about other men, but my husband likes meat, which is why we came to CC. What a huge disappointment. We picked up our stuff and walked out. A nice waitress apologized as we left and explained that a server had walked out on them, leaving them short handed, and that a problem in the kitchen was throwing everything off. Keep in mind that this is a BBQ place, so all the food is ready, it just needs to be put on a plate. Average service time used tobe 5 minutes. Anyway, she told us to call and speak to the owner. I tried and have not gotten a call back. :(

Rib tips! YUM As far as bbq joints go, this place has it pegged. Could use better beer selection, but who cares about the beer when the food is so incredible. Highly recommend this place. I'll stop by any time I'm in that area.

Food was really delicious there was nothing to complain but the customer service was mediocre. Not the best or the worse but it can better. It was my first time today and the sampler was more than enough for two people. I would go back because the food was delicious and the prices are more than fair. I suggest giving a shot.

Your diet will lie in a bloody dieing heap in the gutter after you indulge at CCB. The food coma afterwards is viscious. This is the best 'Q i"ve had in a long long long time. I had the St Louis half rack with garlic toast and cole slaw. The pork falls from the bone. The ribs are not over sauced. There is sauce for you to add if you want more, but it's not necessary. This is a food orgasm. At $ 15.99 for the 1/2 rack + sides it's a very good deal. They also have Blue Moon on tap - YUM. I love this place!

Forrest Y's dad is a huge bbq expert - he's eaten bbq at a bunch of places, bbq's and smokes at home - and Canyon City is his favorite spot! We took him here tonight (Saturday 5pm) to celebrate his birthday and it was already about a 30-minute wait to get a table! We almost left but the owner and her daughter were really accommodating and no regrets because the BBQ is definitely worth the wait! It's amazing how moist and flavorful all of their meats are. We ordered the 4 items plus 2 sides - good enough for 2 people. While all were awesome, my favorites were: - Brisket - a must-get! Such a great flavor - Ribs - falls off the bone but still has that crunch on the outside - Chicken - super moist - our kids couldn't get enough of it (me too!) Of note it does take a little bit of time for the food to come out and, as we realized tonight, it gets busy on Saturday nights so if you're in a rush then call ahead or stop by during the day (we haven't run into any problems getting a table during lunch).

This pace deserves 3.8maybe 4.0 stars. We arrived to this place pretty tired and hungry. We were seated fairly quickly and received The menus by our friendly. Service time on the food was fairly quick, we ordered beef brisket sandwiches and pulled pork sandwiches. The pulled pork sandwich tasted very good and tender, but the beef brisket was a bit bland and need some more flavor. We also ordered the beans and cornbread. Both were good but the beans were exceptional good. The portion sizes could be a bit bigger and the price a bit lower but overall it was a good experience for the first time.

Good BBQ I like the brisket sandwhich the best. Tri tip is not recommended. Price is decent and service is good. On Fridays you need to get there early because everyone wants to come here.

Great bbq, great prices, hidden gem, love it. Get the combo platter 4+ meats that come with 2 sides and split it. It's perfect for 2 medium eaters. All the meat is good, I love the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, hot links, everything. The beans and cornbread are good too. Didn't care for the Texas toast and salad last time, but they're okay. The restaurant has a home-style feel since it's basically a house that was turned into a restaurant. It's located in a neighborhood so it's easy missed. People are friendly and you feel like you're in Texas. Love this place!

For a person who doesn't eat BBQ...i will GLADLY come back here. 3 stars only because their service is whack. Their servers do not know how to serve lol they have blank faces and stand at the end of a long table with a big group kind of...waiting for one person to stop talking so they can take their order. Why don't you just walk to the other side instead of looking like a weenie?? That's none of my business. This would be 4 or 5 stars if their service matched their delicious food. They ran out of food )tri tip and beef ribs and chili) which is a huge bummer cuz thats what i wanted. So i had to settle. Luckily it was delicious but damn cmon.

We found canyon city on yelp after Lucille's was booked for the night. We arrived at 6:45 on a Saturday night with a party of 6. Please note that the restaurant does not take reservations. We were told it was going to be a 20-25 minute wait but ended up being seated in 5 minutes. Servers were friendly and attentive. I ordered the two meat, two side combo for $13.99 (three spareribs, beef brisket, fruit (watermelon) and sweet potato fries ($.50 extra). The spareribs and beef brisket were tender and you could definitely tell they've been cooking all day. I'm not a huge BBQ sauce fan in general but the BBQ sauce here wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of tang. The sweet potato fries were also average - they weren't the most flavorful but still crispy and you get a large portion, nonetheless. Other people in my party also had the tri tip but my favorites were definitely the spareribs and beef brisket-they fell right off the bone!

Oh my goodness. BBQ perfection in the middle of Azusa. Who would have thought?!? The outside isn't much to look at, but the wonderful bbq smell is what draws you in. Our first dining experience was yesterday, and I'm already planning when I can go back again. I don't eat red meat, and often, chicken is an overcooked afterthought at bbq places . That's not the case here though. I've never used the phrase "melt in your mouth chicken" until yesterday, and wow, it wasn't an understatement. My husband was equally impressed with his brisket and ribs. The sides you get are also good sized, and the cornbread was a favorite of mine. We left happy and full, and for the price, what a bargain. No more local bbq places (e.g. Jakes Roadhouse, Woodranch), we're going here.

I have seen this restaurant for years and now am sorry we didn't go in sooner. My Dad was in town from out of state and loved Barbeque so even though we hadn't been there, we gave it a try. Wow, all 3 of us were bowled over with our meals!!! Melt in your mouth, fall off the bone, awesome meat!!! The meat and sauces were absolutely finger linkin! The sides were perfect and the staff and service were great, very friendly and checked up on us regularly. I totally recommend this place for great food and and a nice casual atmosphere!!!!!

First time coming here. Generous portions, but the pulled pork was dry and the ribs has too much fat for my taste. Service was great even though they were short staffed.

Very busy tonight.... Our 30 minute wait was more like 45. Quickly decided on our order since it was officially after hours at that point, only to be told there was no cornbread-- major let down! Hate when items I want are not available. The waiter came back to let us know there was ONE piece of cornbread left... And he got that for us.... Sadly, it did not impress-- dry :( We ordered 3 item combo: short ribs-- dry; tri-tip-- pretty good; and brisket-- fair but a bit over cooked. BBQ sauce was nothing more than average. Also ordered a side of gravy fries-- not hot enough but had potential... Overall, bf says no return-- I think I'd try it one more time to see if it better earlier in the day with fresher, less dry food.

Outside of Bludso's, this is the best BBQ I've had in Los Angeles. I've had bbq in San Diego (Phil's), Texas, Kansas City, Chicago, Lexington, KY, and Charlotte, NC. Canyon City is pretty good and ranks up there with the best in LA (LA bbq overall is below the other cities IMO). Some friends took me out on a Thursday night and I had the Sampler ($23) which comes with Brisket (really good), pulled pork (moist but not overly), chicken (a little on the drier side), hot link (whoa, this was spicy and good), and pork ribs (tender but does not slide completely and unnecessarily off the bone). They have two different sauces. The yellow is their tangier and the clear, their original (on a sweeter side). Their sides are plentiful. I ordered the baked beans (on the sweeter side) and cole slaw (sweet but not overly, only a hint of vinegar taste). Free refills on the sodas. Desserts looked really good though I was good and stayed away (man, was it hard!). AMBIENCE: The place feels like a bbq place. Limited windows, a small hole-in-the-wall, great service and really good food. SERVICE: Great and friendly. PARKING: Small lot, good street parking (be careful of the one-way street on San Gabriel). The front door isn't marked clearly, so just go to one of the doors opposite the parking lot. Prices are reasonable and the portions hearty (I could only eat half of my plate). This is a GREAT find and you'll be in for a surprise. Who would have ever thought great bbq in Azusa, but it's there. Just go find it!!

Being from Texas, my BBQ expectations are high. This place didn't meet them. I may have caught them on a bad day...but the quality of sausage was poor, and I didn't care for the way the brisket was cooked.

WOWIE! This is my new BBQ place. I absolutely looove, love, love the bbq here. It is absolutely delicious and the closest bbq I have found to the ones I had in Texas. I also really loved their Chili Cheese Fries. Excellent find :)

Randomly came across this place with a couple people after hiking in Azusa Canyon. The outside didn't look too promising. We walked in and were seated immediately. The service was great throughout out entire visit. I ordered the pulled pork, and I think garlic toast and watermelon. The portion was big, I had leftovers. I can't remember what everyone else got, but I remember it was good. The prices were great, especially when you consider how much food you are getting. I will definitely be back the next time I am in Azusa, and I definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.

We have driven by this place several times and decided to try it for lunch today. The meats were delicious, the corn bread and baked beans were really good. The potato and mac salads were a bit bland for it being a BBQ joint. You would think they would have bigger flavor, but overall a great place to eat.

Let me start off by saying that I've never actually eaten there. So my reviews going to be based off of my take-out experience. That being said, this is one of the best barbecue places in this area. The brisket is out of this world. I have three words for u. Brisket. Grilled. Cheese. OMG it was a revelation. Perfectly smoked brisket, tomatoes, bacon, oozing cheese between perfectly grilled buttery bread. For those of u that are more carb challenged. There is a barbecue brisket salad that is also one of my classic go to's. The ribs are very delicious but I usually go for the rib tips because hey, I like rib tips. That and a side of corn bread with honey butter :9 There is an extensive menu and no matter what u choose u can't go wrong. I'm still working through it myself. The location just recently went through a slight renovation, such that u can't really tell if the place is open from the outside, especially if the sign is not lit. But just go try the door, it probably is open.

The first time I visited Canyon City BBQ I was pleasantly surprised by the casual an comfortable feel of the location and the staff was great. I had the loaded potato with pulled pork. It was awesome. HOWEVER,the second time I went, I ordered for pick up. I ordered several items (one was bbq chicken) was told the wait would be 45 minutes. I waited 45 minutes, hauled my 3 year old out in the rain, waited ANOTHER minutes inside only to have the hostess come out and tell me that there was no more chicken. I was livid. So I waited 45 minutes, another only to be told there was no chicken. Had to turn around and go home empty handed. AND I dropped my iphone in a puddle on the way out. Not their fault, but upsetting nonetheless. :/

Hole in the wall. I mean Azusa general, not just the restaurant. I'm always tempted to drive here, just for their food. I'm drooling just thinking about their loaded spud with beef brisket. Ashamed to think I get full off of just one potato, but there's a lot going on in it, very filling, totally getting what you're paying for.

Good food. Sometimes bad service ever since they started their remodel. Shouldn't put new hires at the entrance to take names down. Had a bad experience last time. Hopefully this time is different otherwise we won't be coming back at all.

  • David C.

The brisket is amazing. However, the rest of my meal was pretty mediocre. DO NOT order the hot links. They were overly salty, and spicy. It does not help that the place was packed to where you have to wait almost an hour for a table. The anticipation only increased my expectations but they let me down. I still prefer Lucille's BBQ.

I may never eat here again. I hate doing this but I have no patience for laziness on the part of the restauranteur. My family went to eat here and I was home ill. They told me they would bring something back. So I ordered the "tri-tip plate" not the most expensive item on the menu, nor was it the cheapest. It's tri-tip w/ bbq sauce (or aus jus) and It comes with 2 sides. So I went with my favorites mashed potatoes w/ gravy and cornbread. I'm willing to overlook the fact that everything was cold, that's bound to happen, but we don't live too far (under 5 minutes) away. Still I get it, it's not fast food it's cooked to be eaten in house. But that, and the cornbread is the only thing I can let slide. First things first: I got a baked potato and a tub of gravy. Not the mashed potatoes I ordered. The excuse given to me was "we [they] ran out." What? You have baked potatoes but don't have the time to mash them for a paying customer? Unacceptable. I guess they included a giant tub of gravy to make up for it. Thanks now I have gravy soup ... That doesn't make up for your lack of service. Next I opened the cornbread. It seems fine although not at all even remotely warm, and IMHO the key to good cornbread is for it to be steaming and moist; not soggy, and definitely not dry. But it came with sweet butter and I'm all about that. So i'll give it a pass. On to the main course/plate. Delicious stea---- what? No barbecue sauce!?!? Nope, nothing. Dry, pathetic, & over cooked meat. (Not even au jus!) --and a dinner roll. What? I don't need a dinner roll. I do need barbecue sauce though. What the hell? There is no excuse for this. None. They also did not even ask to what doneness the meat was to be cooked (if it ain't medium rare it ain't done right). It was solidly in the medium-well or more range. If this is how Canyon City Barbeque treats first time customers like myself they won't have many repeats. It's disappointing because this place is highly rated and I'm told its often very busy. Next time I want barbecue I will definitely be skipping this hole and going to Robin's BBQ instead. Of which I am not affiliated with. I just feel if I'm going to give a 1 star review I better have a comparable recommendation for a place that's doing it right.

The rundown exterior betrays the hearty, home-style grub that awaits you inside. The boys had: brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, tri tip (too well-done for bf's liking.) No beef ribs til 4pm, otherwise they would've had those, too. I ordered a small gravy fries for the table, which had a super beefy-tasting gravy. Needless to say, I only ate a couple fries. Nachos had several types of cheese, jalapeños, & tomatoes. I found the brisket to be too fatty (some call it tender.) Large portion, nothing fancy, pretty tasty. Delicious berry cobbler (or peach, if you so desire.) Tart & sweet & flakey. Service is a little slow. Just not a very memorable meal for me...

[4.5 stars] Summary: - Service - exceptionally friendly - Food - LEGIT BBQ - Price - standard-average-I'd-gladly-pay-more - Ambiance - you wouldn't think you're in CA anymore...more like CO/OR/AL ******* When the lady and I walked in, we both had the same reaction...woah, lol. We didn't feel like we were in California anymore. She felt like she got whisked away to CO/OR while I felt like I just ended up in some joint in AL. The main difference, however, as the lady noted, was that the patrons here didn't wear cowboy hats. ******* If I really had to complain, this would be it: I dinged half a star for having to fight off two kamikaze flies that wanted to get a piece of our food. Yes, I know that the food is so good that they were willing to risk their lives but man...I got really annoyed when they tried to go for my beer too, lol. But whatever, I won...they got NOTHING on me and my fast hands. ******* FOOD: [ yelp.com/biz_photos/u_r_… ] [ yelp.com/biz_photos/u_r_… ] [ yelp.com/biz_photos/u_r_… ] - Tri-tip - it was too done for my liking. I like blood...lots of it. My lady loves it this dead though...so for all of you out there that still likes it alive...ask if they have it bleeding OR just skip it. - Pulled pork - if you love pulled pork as much as I do that you profess love towards pigs and their lovely sacrifice for humanity, order this. I just couldn't get enough of this-14-hour-perfectly-cooked-babe. - St. Louis Style Spareribs - this...is...another...must. I cannot describe the immaculate love I now have for this place after taking a bite off these ribs. OMG. - Sliders - my fair lady asked for avocado with her sliders and they were GOOD. ******* Service was awesome. I packed some of the stuff to go and when we asked for it to be bagged with ice [since the day was exceptionally hot and we were going to a movie after], our server was more than glad to oblige. Talk about catering to random requests, lol.

Great service, very friendly, the food was ok, not nearly the amount of smoky flavore I'm used to or desire, but the food was good, super soft fall off the bone rins, and super soft brisket. The beans were tsty as well as the garlic toast! Very reasonable proces, very modest place in a so-so neighborhood.

We came here after the Ren Faire deciding we would get much better food for about the same money. I was pleasantly surprised as it was in a neighborhood where locals seem to go. It was very packed for a Sat evening but we were seated within about 20 minutes. It's really simple inside decorated with license plates and a few flat screen TV's. It did the trick for me. I opted for the brisket plate (over the ribs and pulled pork). They were amazing... basically melted in your mouth. I also liked the bbq sauce they used. I thought the gravy on the potatoes was a bit too thick for me and the Texas toast was right now and the perfect complement. Everyone else at the table was happy with their orders as well.

Besides the awkward double house doors, Canyon City BBQ has a cozy, home-like feel. No regrets ordering the Sampler my first time around. The platter came with 3 spare ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken, and topped with a sausage link. The only meats I missed were the tri-tip and the Beef Ribs. I didn't mind though - I can go to Wood Ranch for tri-tip, and I have yet to find a place that even comes close to the amazingness that is Phil's Beef Ribs. I did like the Loaded Spud offering topped with a BBQ meat of choice (beef brisket!). The Spud was practically on steroids! I'd say it was at least 1 pound and resembled a tiny premie. Tiff L. had mentioned that this place is known for their beef brisket. As flavorful as it was, it was still a tad dry. So was the pulled pork and chicken. And I have a bone to pick with the BBQ sauce (for the beef/pork)... what is up with the lingering smoky aftertaste? I was not a fan of that. We were having in-depth chick time and we still had a ton of food on our table when our waitress came by a few times to offer us to-go boxes. Granted, she was courteous and Canyon City does close at 8pm, but I felt like I was unwelcome and being kicked out... especially when there were still a few tables who hadn't gotten their orders yet. I guess this place isn't good for *slow eaters *old friends to reconvene. Pricing: really affordable. BBQ Sampler $19.99, and came with 2 sides. Loaded Spud $8.29. Even the adult beverages range from $2.99 to $4.49! If I'm back, I'll give myself plenty of time to eat, so I can enjoy my whole meal before getting rushed out.

I'm not a fan. The meat, while soft, was not juicy or had any smokey flavor in it. It's just slobbered with sauce, and I don't think that's what makes good BBQ.

Good meat. I've been here several times and never left disappointed. Their sauce is really good and they have a decent amount of flexibility with their sides, which is a plus. Will be back again and again.

Less than 5 min to get to from my house. Ordered take out. Took 10 minutes. Had the 3 meat combo with 2 sides. Had pulled pork, spare ribs, and links. LOVED the pulled pork. It was not drowning in sauce and was still flavorful. The spare ribs weren't bad, but I probably wouldn't order them again. Same goes for the links. Had fries and corned bread. I like how they package the fries, it kept them crispy and not soggy when I ate them at home. I don't like cornbread in general... but really enjoyed the cornbread here. $20 fed two of us. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it if you ask me. I will definitely be back. What I would like to try next: Pulled pork sandwich Beef ribs. Rib Tip Plate.

I'm having tender pulled pork with a side of beans and cole slaw, very satisfying. Friendly staff and funky country/farm atmosphere. Doesn't look like much from the outside, sign is hard to see and it's on a one way highway so be careful finding it. Country music playing but not too loud.

We've returned to Canyon City BBQ, and it appears they are over their growing pains. To be honest, we were not there on a weekend, and will probably continue to avoid weekends. Food is excellent, and trumps any issues with their service.

My favorite BBQ joint ever and its only ten minutes away. Okay this is a BARBECUE place they don't specialize in regular hamburgers or fries or salad so if anyones rates this place low because they didn't enjoy what they don't specialize in then...you came here for the wrong reasons. Its like going to an Italian restaurant and ordering their tacos, ya feel me? (but their cheese fries sprinkled with bacon are good) These are things that i've tried here: The sliders - Delicious and piled high with meat. The three sliders are chicken, brisket and pork so you get to try a little bit of everything. Get it with coleslaw or pickles and onions. Mmmmm! The brisket and pork quesadilla - boyfriend and I share this as an appetizer, it has ortega chiles and tons of meat and cheese. Regular brisket sandwich - Huge slices of brisket piled high. Nothing bad to say about that. Pulled pork with swiss sandwich - My boyfriend loves the combination of swiss and pork and the special bbq sauce they use especially for the pork. Cornbread - So yummy and warm with a side of honey butter. Peach cobbler - I love peach cobbler a la mode. Ugh so good! The main stars of CCB are the brisket, chicken, pork and sausage. Oh and they don't put a whole lot of BBQ sauce on your food so you can put just the right amount that suits you. Servers are always attentive and nice. One more thing...this isn't a place for take out. Just sit down, shut up and eat! I mean enjoy :)

Poor service having cute girls helping you doesn't make up for a general just eat and shut up atmosphere, used to love this place remodel made it uninviting combo was cheaper and used to include Beef ribs now it depends on who's waiting on you if you get them!!!! That's just bull I suggest trying Joeys BBQ in chino off 71fwy and riverside worth the 10 min drive and cheaper

The place used to be really great - but since they remodeled, the prices have gone up and the portions have gone down. We went to eat here on June 14, 2014 and didn't get food or checked on for 20 minutes; and 20 minutes with a hungry 1 and 3 year old is an eternity. I asked the young guy at the front where the manager was and he just stared blankly. I told him no, I'm actually serious, who's the manager and he replied that there was no manager that day. I asked him well then who was in charge, and he went to the back where there were a few other servers. They proceeded to have a football huddle, but by then we had had enough. We gathered our kids and left. A waitress followed us and apologized, she said to call back and talk to the owner Don - but Don has yet to return our calls. We decided to try and give the place another chance and went to eat here on July 4th, 2014 but found that they were closed. A BBQ place closed on the 4th of July?! Epic fail CCBBQ.

One of the best bbq places we've had! Beef ribs & rib tips were excellent. The sides we had--- baked potato, rice & gravy, cole slaw, corn bread were all great. The owner even came by to check on us. One of our favorite places now. Definitely will be back!

Guys guys guys guys if you ever make it to my neck of the woods you gotta join me at Cayon City Barbeque! I had two meat combo brisket and hot link combo with slaw and potatoe salad....its all good, on the other hand a clear stand out is the Brisket! They gave me a knife and a fork. I gave the knife a rest. The only down side now is the last bite of brisket.....going down the hatch in about 2 seconds. Please be advised three stars so that Canyon City Barbeque will always Endeavour To Persevere.

Forget all these haters on yelp who complain. The wait is long because the food is that damn good. Dont be picky dont come with a bad attitude ready to critique just show up and enjoy. Some one commented with a 2 star rating complaining but also saying they somtimes come weekly and monthly if they come so much and only want to leave a 2 star review there idiots. This place is extremely delicous meats fall off the bone the bbq sauce is the best. It doesnt get any better than Canyon City BBQ its a small place so wait times are long but well well worth it. I love canyon city bbq and my friends and family love it as well. Enjoy!

Love this place. Everything I've tried is fantastic. The quesadillas are great, as are the baked potatoes...but my FAVORITE is the brisket melt....sourdough, brisket, bbq sauce, bacon, cheese...AMAZING. Try it. Really can't go wrong here. This spot is pretty popular though. I've had to wait a long time on several occasions...but it's always worth the wait.

My wife and I went here with a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon. It doesn't look like much from the outside but we've found that some of the best places are holes in the wall. I had the make your own 2 meats and 2 sides combo. Had the tri tip and pork ribs with French fries and beans. Wife has the pulled pork sandwich. Ribs we're fall off the bone tender and flavorful. Tri tip was a bit more done than I care for but was still tender. Wife is a pulled pork freak and she thought it was some of the best pulled pork she has ever had. Overall the service was good and the food was great! We will be back !

I can't believe I am yet to comment on this place. I am not much of a BBQ person, but after coming here I am a huge fan. The portions are so big, but the taste and tenderness is what takes the prize. The briscuit was so tender, and the ribs just fell of the bone. Everything about it was perfect. The only downside is the wait, but totally worth it. Forget Lucille's, and come to this place. It was amazing!

Best bbq! I recommend rib tips. Lots of food. Try the loaded potatoes a meal in itself. Service was okay the place itself isn't the nicest but will kerp coming back for the delicious food. Been here 4times and haven't been disappointed yet.

Hot damn, this is some good BBQ! I do love me some good BBQ, and this place delivered like whoa! Messy, saucy, tasty, flavorful, the whole she-bang! I ordered the 2-item combo; that comes with 2 meats of your choice + 2 sides. I got the spareribs and beef brisket, with mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries. Every single item was amazing. The ribs were finger-lickin' good, and a huge mess to eat, which is always fun. They also had a lot of meat on the bones! I approve! The beef brisket was tender, juicy, perfect. My friend also ordered the hot links, and I tried a piece of that and was also impressed. At $12.99 for that combo, you're getting a great deal. The portions are large; you'll have a difficult time finishing all your food. The service is efficient and fast, and our waitress was super friendly and attentive too - she would come by and grab and refill the soda glass as soon as she noticed it was getting low. I like that! The place also has a nice country feel to it - with woodsy furniture and low lighting. Walk, no, RUN to Canyon City BBQ if you're a fan of BBQ. This place is just as good as BBQ that I've had in Texas!

Came back to this place after a nice talk with the owner. This place is family owned. Everything was delicious and they accommodated our family perfectly. The service was excellent! I'm so glad we worked out the kinks because we love this place and want to continue coming. I highly recommend Canyon City BBQ!

By far one of the best BBQ places I've been to.... I've been coming here for a couple years now and have always ordered the sampler platter. I get a little bit of everything (ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork and hot links) with two sides. I recommend this place for its excellent food and service by everyone here.

My wife and I have eaten at Canyon City since the year it opened. It was 10 years ago! Interestingly, for many years going back to the 1950's this place was a family run Mexican restaurant and was my parent's favorite place. When the family retired, they sold the business and Canyon City BBQ was born. By the way Azusa, the city in which this establishment is located is known The Canyon City. As you get close to the door you can tell this is a BBQ place as the sweet smokey odors greet you. You expect to have a good experience and you will not be disappointed. The restaurant is fairly small, I have never counted the tables. I would estimate that they could cram about 50 people at a time into the seats. Please do not hold me to the accuracy of that number! At most dinner times you will probably have to wait, however the longest I think we have waited was 15 minutes, usually 5 to 10 minutes is what we have experienced. Service is always friendly and prompt but if they are busy, do not expect your server to stand around and chat, he or she has other tables to which they must attend. Restrooms are clean. If you show up late in the evening, do not get your panties in a bunch if they are out of an item. Remember that it can take from 2 to 14 hours for them to cook an item, so when it is gone they are not putting another rack of ribs in the smoker! The ambiance is BBQ joint, do not expect a quiet romantic evening here, expect a tasty meal. The main decorations on the walls are old license plates from other states. On to the star of the show --- the food! For a BBQ place they have a large menu and if you don't care for BBQ, you can find something to eat while the rest of your party enjoys what the place is all about. My favorite item is their pulled pork. You can get it either in a sandwich or as a dinner plate. The flavor of the pulled pork is smokey and it is moist. They will put just a SMALL amount of BBQ sauce on it unless you order it dry. Two different sauces are provided, a sweet sauce and spicy. The beef brisket is also outstanding. My wife enjoys the chicken which I have never ordered though I have tasted hers and it was excellent; I would just rather eat the pork or brisket. IYou might want to try the BBQ sliders which includes three different meats and they are not the tiny little slider type of buns. As a BBQ place, of course they have ribs. Want hot links? Get 'em here! These are not your typical hot links you buy at Costco or the local supermarket. They are tasty! Some days they have just a little different taste, not bad, just different. All the dinners come with two sides and they have a wide choice, fries, sweet potatao fries, cole slaw, green salad, veggies, macaroni, etc. I think the choices are about a dozen. Portions are ample! I do not think we have ever walked out without my wife carrying a box and even I have taken items home for later consumption, a very rare occasion for me and my big appetite! They have desserts but to be honest, we have never tried any, because we are full. I have eaten at some of the nationally known BBQ places in Kansas City, and I can tell you that what you get here is every bit as good! So quit reading reviews and go eat at Canyon City.

OMG the best barbecue I've ever had! The beef ribs were amazing! I can't wait to come back and have more. Their BBQ sauce is wonderful. Loved this place. Very friendly staff. It's a very homey restaurant and I love that. Can't wait to bring my family here to try it out. Thank you very much!!!!

Can't believe Boog didn't take me here sooner. THE BEST BBQ I'VE HAD - POSSIBLY EVER. No joke I could write a for days on how delicious the food is here. Best tri-tip for miles hands down, fall off the bone beef ribs sauced to perfection, trip-tip chunks inside of the baked beans, tri-tip chunks inside of the gravy with mash, and some honey butter for the mammoth size of cornbread. Adding a side is only $0.50 extra- well worth it. I have found my new go to bbq spot, gratzi Boogie!

I haven't received my food yet, but the service by Daniel deserves 10 stars! Not only is he attentive and kind but he is also kinda sexy. His voice makes me purrrr with excitement. Then the food came! My god it was enjoyably tasty! The American brisket melt sent a jolt running through my taste buds! If I were to come here though, I would demand Daniel as my server!

THE.BEST.BRISKET!!!! I can't stress it enough. Get the brisket! Don't be one of those people that come and get chicken at a BBQ spot, and I'm sure that's good too but just get some brisket.

It's so hard to find good American BBQ in the SGV area. Luckily there's Canyon City. Here we go with the rundown. Service: Very attentive. Great service. Friendly staff. What else can be said? The guy that served us took care of us. Price: About right for good BBQ. Not cheap per say, ~20 or so dollars for the combo plate but that's normal for good BBQ places. Portion: Large portion. The combo plate I ordered I couldn't finish and I eat a lot. The plate could feed up to 3 people with the sides. Food: The ribs were yum, the brisket was yum, the hot link was yum, the chicken was... not so yum. It was a bit on the dry side. Unfortunately they do not have beef ribs until after 4pm so was unable to try that tasty morsel. Will be back for it though. Ambiance: The decor is like you walked into a western. Wood walls, relaxed environment. There are TV's adorning the walls so it is a great place to come watch a game and eat some meat. Conclusion: I am a fan. Will I be back? Of course. I need to try the beef ribs! There aren't many places that have good BBQ but this place is good. Recommended.

The meat was good, but the side dishes we had were OK at best. Very small place and the tables are very close together. When you walk in, it feels like you are walking into a small house. I might order take out of the ribs, but would not sit in again.

Definitely will be back! Pulled pork sandwich not the best I've had but very flavorful, little dry so added sauce or ask for side of coleslaw to add yourself. Ribs we're tender. Limited parking. Very friendly staff, great service! !

My family enjoys this BBQ hole in the wall restaurant. My dad likes the pulled pork sandwich. My mom ordered a patty melt and it had two HUGE patties on it. She actually took one of them home. I ordered the chicken breast sandwich which was okay but not much flavor. I wouldn't recommend ordering it. HOWEVER, I have ordered their loaded spud and it was very tasty. Oh and my parents always order the peach cobbler and they love it.... Some items are hit and miss but if you keep to their traditional bbq items it should be a tasty meal...

This is a wierd place in the sense that its a house that's converted into a restaurant. Other then that it really cool, a little out of the way but nice. I been here twice and both times I've been very happy with the food. I ordered the brisket plate and was surprised when it came because its basically a whole steak! My wife ordered the rib tip plate and almost fell out of her seat when she saw the portion size. As is the case with all BBQ places and sauces its very individualistic. This sauce has a sweet tangy taste to it with a not to inconspicuous heat element. If your a BBQ fan in the area it's worth the effort to stop by.

Stumbled across Canyon City this past weekend and what a stumble it was! Super delicious BBQ; best I have ever had for sure. I decided to take our servers recommendation and ordered the pork ribs; the meat was fall off the bone tender and sauce was that perfect combo of sweet & savory. The restaurant itself has a homey feel that is hard to find in SoCal ... I give this place 5 succulent stars and will be back soon!

Rib tips!! Every time I've eaten here it's been delicious. I've tried different things too. Hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, brisket. Tri tip wasn't my favorite, but the rib tips are a great deal, enough for two. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars is every now and then the wait is a little long. But I have to say it is ALWAYS worth it and I don't mind. If you feel you must leave though, take a brownie. They are super delicious and you'll wish you grabbed a milk to go. =9

I've been coming to this place for years. It actually pains me to write this review, but I want to prevent others from experiencing what I experienced this week. Never again will I be returning to this venue. Over the years I didn't want to believe that the quality of food and service was declining, but the harsh reality is simply that. I ordered a "Pulled Pork Sandwich" and "fries" to go. When I arrived, the food wasn't yet ready so My girlfriend ordered a Margarita from the bar to compensate for the wait. That came out watered down and without a tinge of alcohol. She remarked that it tasted like "strawberry syrup" as if it was Kool Aid. I usually don't mind waiting awhile (especially for good quality food) but when I got home and realized what had happened. I couldn't believe my eyes !! The food, extremely cold (as if it had been made and hour earlier and was sitting) , the "BBQ pulled pork" was anything but. This dried up sandwich didn't have a hit of BBQ sauce or moisture. It was like taking a bite into sandpaper. Historically, the meat here would be juicy and packed with flavor. But not anymore. A pathetic attempt at making food and customer service was just.......unbelievable. They recently remodeled the joint, but honestly, if the quality of service continues as is, this place won't be open much longer. I never thought in a million years I would have to write a bad review about this place. But as they say "with time, comes change ....", & CANYON CITY BBQ is no exception ....! Stay Away from this place if you value your time & Money !!!!!

This is by far one of the most convenient BBQ places near my home. Prices are fair, food is tasty. Decent BBQ for sure. From their tri tip to their pulled pork, it's all good. The place is clean and they have friendly service. As for their BBQ sauce, it's great, don't get me wrong, but for sure I've had better. If in the area, you must check out this spot though. Small little place but it won't let you down. Portions are decent sized too. Their pulled pork is juicy, their tri tip can be a bit inconsistent. The first time I had it it was ok, yet this last time it was better than the pulled pork. The chicken is a bit on the drier side and their corn bread is good with butter and their beans.

My friend and I have been watching BBQ Pitmasters and developed a craving for some delicious BBQ. I looked up some BBQ restaurants and saw Canyon City BBQ had some excellent ratings. That's were we went today. It is a very small restaurant with a home style feeling. One of the things, I found interesting, was the license plates that were hung on the wall. The food and service were excellent. Our waitress was very friendly. Always coming around filling up our drinks, even if they were half full (That's what I call service.). I would recommend this place to anyone. This place is small. I would recommend dining after the lunch rush or just before the dinner rush.

I first tried their BBQ when my company ordered lunch from them for one of our meetings. Even their catered BBQ is awesome and the meat stayed tender. Ever since then, I had to bring my husband here since he's a huge BBQ-eater. The owners used to be competitive BBQ-ers before they opened this place so it's worth having a taste! They have 2 varieties of BBQ sauces. (one is sweet for beef and one is more tangy for the pork) I've basically tried almost every BBQ they have, but the brisket is definitely my favorite. My husband is a beef rib fan, which is also great and falls off the bone! The Canyon City Sampler is a good option to order if you want to try a little bit of everything.. just make sure there's someone there to help you eat it though! NOTE: If you get the brisket sandwich, the meat is sometimes not THAT hot (almost room temperature). It's happened on 2 occasions so I always get the brisket plate instead. They also have sweet potato fries here and Brownies are good here too :) Check their hours, they are closed on Mondays and they don't stay open late. If feels like you are eating at someones house when you eat in. Don't be fooled by the exterior, it's easy to drive by it since it's surrounded by a residential area and it's right on San Gabriel Avenue which is a one-way street. The parking lot awkward if too many cars (hard to back out), so it's better to park on the street. You can also park on the street at W. 4th Street (side of the building) Overall, the BBQ is great.

Tasty, tangy, tender, and triumphant in the realm of BBQ. Rib tips are fantastic and cheap. This place gives all other BBQ places a run for their money when it comes to the ribs. You can get a rib tip meal with fries for 8 bucks. It is enough to feed 2 people and have leftovers for the dog at home.

SOOOO GOOOOD. Canyon city is a great neighborhood spot with awesome food. The Beefeater sandwich (swiss cheese melted over ortega chilis and beef brisket on grilled sourdough) is my jam! If you like BBQ you owe it to yourself to at least give this spot a try. The meat is so tender you can cut it with a fork. I used to think Lucille's was good, but now I save those cards and re-gift them. Canyon City is just straight up better BBQ at a better price.

Canyon City is a GEM! We have been going here for about 15 years, and have never recieved anything but the best food and service. We had the pleasure of working with them for our wedding. They came early and set up a fabulous buffet. Our guests are STILL talking about how good our food was. Don is a pleasure to work with, and his team of workers are nothing less than great. We will be back as often as we can! 5 stars!

I wanted so badly to like this place but I just couldn't. I'm honestly not sure that I went to the same place that people reviewed here. I had heard many good things about Canyon City when I first moved to LA and never got a chance to get out to Azusa to try it. Well my chance finally came and I was looking forward to what was reviewed as a decent smoked brisket. Be careful parking, the lot is next to the dumpster and it smells very strongly. It was so bad that I parked on the street instead. The inside was nice and homey, intimate feeling and what I'd expect from a barbecue joint. When the food came, I was worried. I take my brisket seriously and had brought family based on reviews that I'd read. I like central Texas barbecue, the kind that's tender and meant to be eaten without sauce because it has nothing to hide (Smitty's, Kreuz, Luling City Market, Snows, etc.). The brisket had an almost rubbery look to it and was covered in sauce that was far too sugary for my taste (i should have gotten it on the side). I can accept that my style of sauce might be different (I like the kick of places like City Market) but the real problem with the brisket was the meat itself. I tried some of the meat without the sauce and it was dry, under seasoned and had no smoke flavor to it. There was almost a smoke ring around it but it looked like it wasn't cooked long enough or at the right temperature. I'd say they need to re-imagine the dry rub and play with the cooking time a bit. Having no smoke flavor on a smoked brisket is unacceptable. I hope that this was just an off day, but I judge my barbecue on the brisket, and based on the brisket alone I won't come back. Honestly, I can make better brisket in my oven at home (not that I would ever waste a good brisket that way). For completeness, my sides were cornbread and baked beans. The cornbread was dry and not very flavorful and the beans, although the best part of my meal, had some nice bits of meat mixed in but were way over sweetened like the bbq sauce. I still ate the food but wish that I'd had something else. The others had chicken and salad which honestly weren't great either. The chicken tasted broiled, not grilled, and was covered in the same sauce. The salad was iceburg lettuce with corn and honestly didn't look appetizing enough for me to try. Prices are on par with other barbecue places, 13.99 for the brisket plate which is about 1/2 a pound or so of brisket with two sides. Oh well, at least I can check Canyon City off of my list of barbecue places in LA to check out. At least the server was really nice and attentive. He seriously came by every 10 to 15 minutes to check on us. I couldn't bring myself to say that I didn't enjoy the meal since he was so nice.

I'll keep this review simple WOW! this place was right under my nose and I didnt know that this place existed. I'm glad I found this place. Its family owned and it feels like its family run. The place ran out of ribs but we tried the pulled pork and the tri tip and they along with the sides (beans and cole slaw) were to die for. I had to try the corn bread and it was the cherry on top of the meal. Must try.

Excellent service and food! It's so hard to find good BBQ in SoCal but this place is spot on! Ribs, tri tip, hot links, and pulled pork were delicious. Both BBQ sauces were tasty too! The brisket gravy is excellent and all the sides were impressive. Will be back! If I could give extra stars I would!!!

Bummed. Take your hard earned money else where, they don't care about customer service. If you want to take people you'll be disappointed. My daughter took me here because I've been wanting to try them out for sometime. I love BBQ. Environment is less than inviting, it's dark, no frills just blah, license plates are cool, I guess. We were seated immediately but we waited 17 minutes before we were acknowledged and asked for drinks. There was only us, two tables occupied in the front and two in the back so we weren't sure what the hold up was but weren't deterred, food was good. Typical. Lucille's is much better. We ordered the 3 meat combo and 2 sides, it came super fast. The baked beans aren't good DRY. The ribs are great as are the pulled pork, the Tri-tip isn't good very dry. After we finished our table was bussed just as fast if not faster than when the food was brought but at least the kid (and it seems like child labor is common here) told us "Oh, no rush but I'm just going to take your plates." We looked at each other and then around us - ohkaaay. Yet they're good ol' boy regulars were still sitting back yapping and tables full of plates and trash unbussed. Not sure what's going on here but I'm sure you understand; anyway we won't be back. Don't fret though because if you're blond haired and light skin you'll probably like it here and be treated better. Anyway, I hope the owner fires the manager or keeps his kids and their friends at home instead of working them for cheap wages and service. I was really disappointed because I wanted to make it a regular place.

Great food, great service! Nick was extra friendly and on the ball the whole time we were there. The food looked and tasted great. The place is a charming little spot, that looks like it could have been a house at some point. The decor was cute with license plates from all over the country, and country store like ceramic pigs and stuff lining the walls. Portions are large and inexpensive. Definitely a spot to check out if looking for bbq in this area.

This is the best barbecue in the area, hands down. My favorite is the hot beef brisket that comes on brass and mashed potatoes and is smothered in gravy. Yes, it's as good as it sounds. Ask the meat I've tried has been good. If you like or are leery of spicy food, be aware that the hot links are much hotter than any other hot links I've had. Seriously spicy stuff. The corn bread and sweet potato fries are also excellent. If you can't decide what to get, they have a sampler platter with most of the meats and is plenty big enough to share. If you like nachos, their barbecue nachos are great, but be warned that they are a meal by themselves.

This place is a great small owned family restaurant with some of the best bbq in the San Gabriel valley! Been coming her for years. Friendly owners and wait staff. I give it five stars and suggest you stop in the next time you are in the area. You won't be disappointed,

I would have to say this place is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover". Came here for the first time today. We were in the area and found it on Yelp. Decided to come here based off the good reviews. After arriving, we were very skeptical as the exterior of the restaurant is, shall I say, not too appealing. Well, after trying the food, WHO CARES!!! I can't say that I've tried BBQ here and there and everywhere. But I do know good food when I try it. I ordered the Sampler platter, which came with Pulled Pork, Brisket, Spareribs, Chicken, Hot Links, and 2 sides. Knowing full well that I wouldn't be able to finish the meal, as warned by our waitress. The plan was to take the rest home for leftovers. The food: Pulled Pork - This is by far the best Pulled Pork I've ever had. Juicy and smokey. Pure Pork Perfection 5 stars Brisket - The brisket was pull apart tender. Most of the brisket I've had before was rubbery. 5 stars Spareribs - I've had better. Not that theirs wasn't good. 3 stars Chicken - Saved for leftovers. Did not try. If I remember, I will update later. Hot Links - I love spicy food and I think I can really handle my spice. These had a kick which really surprised me. Forgot to ask if these were housemade. 5 stars Sides - Ordered 2 baked beans. Ate one there and saved the other to take home. These were on the sweet side. Not my cup of tea, but my cuz liked them. 3 stars I would definitely come here again if ever in the area. The pulled pork was that damn good. I live too far away to be able to come on a regular basis. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves their BBQ.

We recently went on a hike to the bridge to nowhere and came down the hill starving. We were able to find this BBQ place on Yelp so decided to try it. I got a salad which had pulled pork on top of it which was really good and a very large portion. My boyfriend got the make your own combo with the Brisket and hot links. The Brisket was to die for! When he tried to pass over some to my plate the entire pieces of Brisket just fell apart. He also got the side of beans and mashed potatoes which were very rich in flavor and creamy. Also the service was amazing. Our server was very attentive and seemed to really care about how we were doing. He also even made very good recommendations on food and always kept our cups full. Although I was a little iffy about going here from the weird exterior design I would definitely come back. My boyfriend said he would love to go on another 10+ mile hike as long as he gets this bomb BBQ after.

Visited 5/3/14 with my wife and daughters. They had the tri-tip and I had the St Louis style ribs. WOW! This place is great and our visit and dining experience was just as great. By far, the best bbq joint in the SGV. The Dog House Grill now has serious competition; but heck, that's my bbq joint when I visit Fresno. Fresnoans, you are lucky to have DHG, but now, I have a place just as good in the SGV!!! I just created my yelp account and I will post more as time goes. Hey, I love to eat too! Haha!

I waited until the lunch time rush to visit this place. Immediately greeted by two different employee upon arrival and seated right away. There were 3-4 group that were already served and more came after I was seated, so it looks like they don't have much down time. Service was great. My server checked on me 3 time throughout my meal. Food was good. Sauces selection was way to sweet for my taste. I was hoping for some vinegar based sauce or something spicy, but nope- all sauce were sweet and thick. I guess that is their style. I had the spare ribs and brisket with Cole slaw and fries on the side. Meat were tender, Fall of the bone, melt in your mouth, etc. The smoke flavor were very light. I was expecting a heavier flavor considering the amount of time they were smoke. Perhaps it was drowned out by their overly sweet but sauce. Ribs exterior were almost candied, but the sauce kind of soften it down. Brisket was lean and tender. Fries- hot and crisp. Cole slaw were drowned in dressing, but edible if you drain out the dressing. I should ask for no sauce next time. Definitely will be back. Plenty of food for cheap, so I can't complain.

I've been all over the US and tried great bbq. From Kansas City to Texas, this place is good. I'm not too big on bbq being served on the meat, I wish it was simply a condiment on the table but all and all this place is a good bbq in SoCal.

This is one of my all time favorite places to eat! The atmosphere is great, service is fantastic, and well the food is superb! To drink I always get their homemade southern sweet tea which is great! To eat I get the tri-tip sandwhich and add cheese and avocado on it, than pour the homemade Barbeque sauce (whichever, there are three different kind)! Than order some cheese fries which come with BACON on top served with ranch dressing to dip in! I've tried the pulled pork and chicken which are great as well!! Also, you can't go wrong with a side of mashed potatoes and beans! Overall a spectacular place to eat at! You're a pansy if you don't use all three of the sauces

Pleasantly surprised! Anything you order is delicious, servers are nice, prices are reasonable. Don't drive too fast because you'll miss the place, and be prepared to park on the street, yet, not an inconvenience. Wish it would stay open a little later than their current schedule of 8 p.m.

Damn Good BBQ, Mashed Potato's and GRAVY (when you get it you will know why GRAVY must be capitalized), GRAVY FRIES and there's really nothing more you need to know. This place knows their food and they do it well....

The best BBQ in the area by far! Always a great meal, and nice servers with great service. Come hungry and leave happy! The recent bad review by "Hungry G" is so off base, he must weigh 500lbs if he thinks the portions here are small! The portions are all more then generous and the price is at least 20% less then any other decent BBQ place around.

Wow what a hidden gem! My boyfriend actually found this place! on the way here we were actually in a neighborhood that just had homes everywhere we were actually confused. But finally we spotted canyon city BBQ on the corner and in we went! (: This is an actually house made into a local bbq joint and its the BEST BBQ i've ever had! Walking in there was an entrance door and then we walked into a little doorway with another door, just like a house! Their menu features a wide variety bbq meats such as tri tip, pulled pork, bbq chicken, brisket, pork and beef ribs, etc. We ended up ordering the $14.99 meal combo and that comes with choice of 2 sides and 3 choices of meat. We chose their Tri tip, brisket, and beef ribs. We also got the mashed potatoes w/gravy and the sweet potato fries. The tri tip was amazinggg! definitely soo tender it was falling apart when i put my fork into it. The brisket was also very good and flavorful, the beef ribs were succulent. They were big, meaty, and juicy! They had 2 bbq sauces on the table for you to choose from. Theres their original BBQ sauce which is a sweeter bbq sauce they use on their meats and theres another in a yellow bottle which is a zestier sauce that adds a small kick of spiciness. The mashed potatoes w/ gravy was awesome, the gravy actually had bits of beef in it and it was well flavored so it really amped up the potatoes. The sweet potato fries were crispy and plentiful and really hit the spot with the BBQ sauces. The only down part about this place is that they need more people to wait tables because there were tables that weren't cleaned after guests leave ( I guess that explains the wait even though there were open tables) and our waitress was managing half of the restaurant herself. Service was slow and we ended up waiting 30 minutes before she took our order. The people next and behind us got their food first even though we were there first. WTF? so i had to take off one star. But hey once the food got to the table it was ALL WORTH THE WAIT. Overall, this is the best BBQ i've had that wasn't overpriced or too far away! I'm definitely coming back for more!

Have been coming here for years and have always had a great meal except for today. Brisket was really tough and my dad's half slab of St.Louis were like beef jerky ...So so disappointed and it's going to be some time before coming back.

  • Han G.

Yum. Really. Yum. I am not a beef person. But, the brisket is the most tender brisket I've ever had. We've gone several times and every single time the food has been amazing. The last time I went, I got the large portion Beef Brisket Sandwich. The meat that fell out of the sandwich was enough to make a second sandwich. And the sampler is perfect for anyone that doesn't know what to order. The wait staff is also incredible. They work so hard, and the last time we went they were prepping a catering job for 1500 people. They didn't even look stressed. I knock off one star for the run down decor. Its not dirty or unpleasant. But, at the same time, it kind of feel like I'm going to a lunch at the Moose Lodge more than a restaurant. I hope this place gets so busy they can revamp the place a little, because they deserve all the success they get.

My friend took me here. It was quite surprising at first because I never knew there is a restaurant here before. I ordered the ribs and it was really good! The place is so cozy. The service was good too. Will bring my friend here next time.

Went here for a friends birthday on a Sunday evening at 6:30pm. The restaurant closes at 7pm. The server was quick in providing a menu and my drink. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich. The food was out quickly but I asked for lemon slices and the waitress forgot to bring them. Also, she didn't ever refill my water. Now, about the important stuff, the food. I was not impressed. Others in our party were pleased with their choices. ( brisket, baked potato, spare ribs) but my tri-tip was boring. It was dry , poorly seasoned and way overcooked. In addition, the roll it was served on was gross and poor quality. I would not recommend the tri-tip. The portion was okay for the $8.99 price but there was no side of coleslaw or potato salad that you would expect from a BBQ joint. If I happen to be invited for a dinner and it's here again I'd probably decline and save my money for something better.

  • Shannon N.

I love this place. The sauce is great and I love the tri tip sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich is out of this world. The spicy BBQ sauce in the yellow bottle makes it even better. Solid, hole in the wall barbecue spot. The folks are nice and it's reliable and tasty. All around great spot to kill that barbecue craving. I just wish they were open later. But I guess when you're awesome you can close whenever you want and not have to worry about it. :)

Pros: The quality of the meats are stupendous-- they're full of flavor, cooked just right to the point of falling off the bone. Even the chicken is delicious and cooked well (this is coming from a non-bbq-chicken fan). The portions are large too (I shared a 4 meat combo with two sides with another person. We still ended up with leftovers). The mashed potatoes served with meaty gravy is wonderful. Great and fast service. Cons: Can't complain Tips to you- Beef Ribs are to die for. You also can't go wrong with pulled pork and beef brisket. Try their BBQ nachos (people always come up to us and ask what we ordered whenever we order the BBQ nachos, you will get asked and people will stare at your order, haha).

By far the best barbecue spot around. Enjoyed the 3 meat sampler (pulled pork, tri tip and hot links) with side's of French fries, baked potato and texas toast. Everything was outstanding. The links had a nice heat to them, pulled pork was tasty served with a sweet and tangy sauce, tri tip was nice and tender with a nice chard crust on the outside. You've gotta try the gravy (off the hook good) especially drizzled over some french fries. We will definitely be returning to this spot..

I found this restaurant on yelp because I wanted some good bbq and this place popped up. I am so glad it did because the food is awesome, the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food given, and the staff are very friendly. I loved the brisket especially in a dinner roll. I highly recommend this play over Lucilles.

  • Ralph F.

Food here is really good! Brisket is tender, pork ribs are bomb. My favorite by far is the pulled pork, except there was hair in my pulled pork our server was very apologetic and did her best to make it right. I really liked the food but it's hard to forget when you see hair on your plate. Cool little place to eat. Might try it again someday

Canyon City BBQ is my favorite BBQ. Lucky I work in Azusa so I can have it every few months with co-workers. Pulled pork and the sliced brisket are my favorites. I wish they served Mac and cheese.

Waiting for 20 mins for a table still have 9 empty tables left. Suck !!! How can you run out off beef ribs at dinner time 6:49 pm. The Tri-Tip and BBQ chicken are over cook. Cook too many time . The only things good are the Cornbread, Rice & Gravy, and Coleslaw. Lucilles and Woody's taste better at least the meats aren't over cooked.

  • Corrina A.

Our favorite BBQ joint ! You cannot beat their tender Beef Brisket and the Pulled Pork. Every time it is consistent and good!! And when they run out they run out. We try to go at least 1 time a month, but we are remembered and given first class service. Mary is a pro in that area. Although you do not have to be a regular to be treated like family. Support our local BBQ restaurants, no need to go to a chain restaurant for quality smoked bbq.

Back for round 2 and food was definitely scrumptious. Service was a lil slow but food definitely made up for it. I got to try the berry cobbler ala mode. Make sure u save room for it bcuz the berry cobbler was just as good.

Hella Good BBQ!!!! Great food along with great prices! This was my first time eating at Canyon City BBQ and I will for sure be back! Our table ordered Frito Pie to share and it was amazing! I had the BBQ Pulled Pork salad and it was HUGE and super yummy! The spicy jalapeno ranch dressing was very good, I've never tried anything like that before =) Next time I'll go with a big appetite since there are so many things on the menu that I would like to try!

Azusa's gem!! This is a mom and pops shop that serves finger-lickin, down and dirty homemade barbecue. Best barbecue flavor and quality meat I've had in SoCal. Pulled pork Swiss and onions is my default order every time because its too good to pass up. Chunks of meat and barbecue sauce drip off the bottom of the sandwich for each bite i take just like the Carl's jr. Commercials. "Don't bother me, I'm eating". It's true, don't bother me because i'm busy picking up the scrap of meats that I've dropped. No pulled pork left behind!

I really like the bbq here! I've introduced quite a few friends to it and they've liked it as well. I've been told that Phil's in San Diego is the place to go but I still think this place ranks high on the bbq meter. Their portions are more than generous and their service is always friendly. They cater quite a few of the events at my workplace and the food is always consistent. I am in love with their pulled pork and cornbread. I've tried all of the meats and they're equally tender and delicious but I always come back to the pulled pork.

We needed a place to eat after orientation for our son at Azusa Pacific University. I'm so glad we stopped here. Great food and a great menu. If you like BBQ this is one of the best I've had. Brisket and pulled pork were great. The loaded baked potato was big and tasty. We loved the Texas toast as well. The only reason this is not 5 stars is that the service was terrible. As I looked around, I think it was just our sever as the other tables seemed to be having better luck than us. If you're in Azusa I would definitely recommend this BBQ place for a tasty filling meal.

This place is a little mom an pop BBQ shop, the food is very good, and the prices are great for the quality. In 3 visits the only "miss" for me was the chili, which was good but a little too beany for me, another hour or two of simmer probably wouldn't hurt either. After 3 visits I still enjoy the food, and atmosphere, I will continue to recommend Canyon City BBQ to friends and family. It's worth mentioning this place was brought to my attention by someone who flirts with being a vegetarian.

Surprisingly good! Pulled pork and brisket is superb. I've made my way through about 1/2 the menu and everything has been outstanding. Nacho's with brisket of pulled pork or chicken is very good. If you add their baked beans your eyes will roll back in your head when you eat it. A cold beverage goes nicely. A dude order a full order of beef ribs at a table next to us. The entire party laughed at him when he was served because it looks like Fred Flintstone's dinner plate. He smiled happily throught a meal he could not finish. $1.75 brownies on the counter. The kid grabs one as soon as we walk in (before we are seated) because they are known to frequently disappear. Real ice cream, too. Servers are 'real' people. They know their menu and take pride in all they serve and do. No surprise the origins are from BBQ competitions.

Finally made it in to this joint been driving by it for YEARS so here is my opinion. Tri Tip was so so. Had a good smoke ring kudos for smoking it but this cut of meat is just too tough. These guys do an ok job but just dont waste stomach space move to another menu item. Pulled pork was very good. Good taste all by itself which is the true test. Slap a little of their bbq sauce on it and it was really good. Note though that i found their bbq sauce sweet. It is very good but some may find it on the sweet side. Now for the winner BRISKET. This was phenomenal just melted in my mouth. So tender and good flavor. This would be my main choice when I return. Sides - baked beans were killer with what seemed like a little brisket in it. Great taste little sweetness was great. Mashed potatoes were good but it is a basic side. All in all worth the stop. Prices were about normal for a bbq joint and was worth it. Will definitely go back.

One of the best BBQ places I've ever been to. I've been to many BBQ places and this one takes the cake. We were quoted 15-20 min wait and within 5 mins we were seated. I always have the sampler platter which is way more then enough food for me which is great because I always have left overs to take home and eat the next day! The meat is so juicy and always falls off the bone, never chewy. Space is a little small but makes it feel like home. Their Chili is awesome, could've just had a fat bowl of chili and I would've been happy. The only complain I have is that they close at 8pm which is super early. We left about 8:30pm but didn't know that they closed at 8pm and they never rushed us out which was great. Can't wait to go again.

Wow. I have never had BBQ as good as this. I had the loaded spud with brisket and mannnn was it ever so tasty. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich and I have to tell ya, I wasn't that impressed. The brisket takes the GOLD. Their BBQ sauce is freaking yumminess in a liquid form lol. They even serve Fosselmans ice cream here. How awesome is that?! The servers are so nice. The staff is very attentive and the food comes out in a timely manner. Now, if you are coming here during lunch, expect to take longer than an hour. The wait can be awhile due to high traffic but once you're seated, you're good to go. I'm so excited this place is close to home and work. They even cater too!!!! OHHH and don't forget the Blue Moon!!!

This place is a hidden gem. A true hole in the wall that serves up good bbq..all housed in a quaint plain 'ol building. Located in Azusa, this place is worth stopping by. Friendly and attentive staff walk around and make sure that your drink are topped off and you are happy...even if there is a crowd. The food is legit!!! they serve up some mean bbq and bbq sauces. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu.

Authentic BBQ joint in Azusa? Holy crap! I've had my doubts in this city but it has come a long way! I ordered a sampler and the rib tips(after living in Chicago for a while, gotta try the rib tips) Sampler comes with pulled pork, smoked sausage, ribs, brisket and 2 sides. Favorite? Sausages and brisket, that brisket melts in your mouth son! Rib tips can use little more work, but nevertheless, this place is probably the best bbq spot to go in san gabriel valley. Wait time can be long if you have a big group.

Once you find the place and walk in you will feel, know, and smell this great BBQ smokehouse. I ordered the two meat combo with tri tip and pulled pork. Very tasty! I will be back to attack the full rack of ribs!

Came here with my sister because my brother has been raving about this place. So I had to try. My first impression if this place was like is this a house or a restaurant? Once you get to the front of the building all I see is a black door once you open it there's another door a wooden one. I didnt know what to expect of this place. I was kind of freaked out until I opened the wooden door I was wow this is ok. isnt as creepy as I thought. When we got our table I opened the menu. Lots off meat to choose from. I continued to flip the pages and wow they even have chili cheese fries and gravy fries which I thought was kind of odd especially at a bbq joint. My sister and I decided to order the sampler that comes with two sides. The sampler had a bbq chicken, bbq ribs, hot links, pulled pork, and brisket. The best part off the meal was the bbq ribs I didn't need to add more bbq sauce which I did use a lot of with all the other meats because it didn't have enough flavor. So this place I have it a 3 star.

Canyon City Barbeque is by far the best Barbeque in the San Gabriel Valley. We have going there since they opened. Love the remodel. The counter now allows you to have a glass of wine or beer from their newer selections while you wait. This place is always busy, but definitely worth the wait, as the food is great. I try to go there early whenever I can. This is a family run business and they do a great job.

Oh my goodness I love this place! My husband would drive by on his way home from work and had mentioned that we should try it out. I was not excited to say the least. While there are many great places to eat bbq doesn't really come to mind when i think of AZusa. I must say i was wrong an pleasantly surprised. Great staff and some of the best bbq i have ever had. Had dinner there thursday night and ordered 2lbs of brisket to pick up and feed the family at home on Friday. This will be a once a week dinner night out for sure!!!

OMG. Why hasn't anybody ever told me about this place!! CCBBQ opened in 2004, and I must've driven past it a hundred times since then. In fact, until I was in the area getting gas and yelped 'Best Restaurant' did I even know about it. It's located in a neighborhood surrounded by 90 year old bungalows, and because the cross-traffic on the street is treacherous and my eyes were on the road, I never even noticed it was there! Well, I parked and went in. It's probably the tenth business to inhabit the building it's in, and it shows, but this is BBQ and if there is no quirkiness in your BBQ restaurant...well we know what that means. The only thing I have resembling a complaint, and I've been back once since and this didn't change, is I stood waiting for a table for about five minutes before i was seated. During this time there were maybe a dozen to 15 patrons seated, so they weren't busy. As I stood there salivating over the wafting aromas, everyone on the wait staff smiled, acknowledged my existence, and then went on their way as if it were the responsibility of someone else to seat me! I seriously don't even think they care! But you know what? After the brisket and pulled pork, neither did I!!!! Both times I've gone the table service was enthusiastic, helpful, and timely. I ordered the brisket/pulled-pork the first time, and it was so good that by the time I went back again I was craving it. So I can only vouch for the brisket and pulled pork!!! In fact, I can't ever see myself ordering anything else in the future...unless they run out! I live about 50 miles from this place and if my car broke down I would walk there.

Wow!never assume that hole-in-the-wall joints can't cook..the BBQ here is amazing! Despite it's unnoticeable appearance, the servers, food and price make coming here all worth the while. We had: -1/4 dark meat BBQ chicken -full slab of st Louis style ribs -BBQ beans/sweet potato fries/macaroni salad/Texas toast Each of our dishes came with 2 sides. Total bill for our dinner: $30 Oh and try the brownies too ($1.49)-they're delicious ;)

If you enjoy oven baked over cooked meats, very sweet and bland sauce, potato salad equally bland as a matter if fact all the food was un-eventful. The dining and restroom was clean and our server was nice so that's why it gets 1 star. But that's not enough to ever make us want to try it again. But hey this is just my review and I like good BBQ cooked on a BBQ grill with seasoning, spicy tange sauce, and flavor.

This place has outstanding BBQ. Great beef and pork ribs, tri-tip, and brisket. Be sure to get there early so you don't miss out on the ribs. I once ordered take out here for Valentine's Day, which was on a weeknight. My guy was so surprised, he nearly had tears in his eyes, he loves this BBQ so much. It was the best foodie gift I ever gave him.

Best bbq place around. I love this place so much that I had my birthday dinner here with about 15 people! I LOVE their rib tips and St. louis style ribs. The rib tips and St. Louis fall of the bone. Ugh, now I want BBQ. But I digress now back to my review. Their baked potatoes are amazing and HUGE, it is a meal in its self. This place is definitely not fancy, it's kind of a hole in the wall, but it has the BEST BBQ in the SGV. Oh and the brisket is also to die for. This place is definitely THE place I go for BBQ. The price is also a GREAT value too, I think a full slab of St. Louis ribs is about $18, not bad since it can easily feed two very hungry people. The staff is also really nice, especially the blonde woman, who I think owns the place, since she is always there when I go.

Went here for lunch, and the place was packed. I wanted rib tips-but they were out. No beef ribs until 4:00?? Settled for tri-tip. It was tough and rubbery, not fall apart like other reviews. I looked around and about half the customers were waiting for food. The only thing that was good was the bread. I waited over 30 minutes for my lunch; they seemed to be way understaffed. Only one kid in the kitchen, and overworked waitresses. Sat next to a dirty table that never got cleaned up, and the Xeroxed menus are covered in " sticky finger" plastic-ugh! The parking sucks because they only have a tiny lot behind, or on the street. Better to head West on the 210 to Robins BBQ in East Pasadena, or Joey's BBQ in Pomona/Chino- they have much better BBQ and service.

Great lunch place. Awesome tri tip sandwich, ribs, pulled pork, and good place to use if needing a caterer.

Many employees from Rain Bird eat here. The owner and his team are so accommodating when we have large celebrations / going away parties. The food and service is ALWAYS great. Highly recommend and promise you won't be disappointed. (Unless of course you go on Monday or Tuesday when they are closed. :-))

Came in on a Yelp recommendation looking for barbecue. This place is worth the five stars. The brisket was, dare I say, silky and practically dissolved in your mouth. The sampler platter is huge and could easily feed 2 - 4 people. The ribs was tender and had a smokey flavor to them. The gravy is insanely good. Everything we sampled was outstanding. Definitely will come back and bring a larger crowd.

One of the best BBQ places I've tried to date. Their barbeque is very authentic and has a homemade taste to it. I got the two meat combo plate which came with two sides. I was pretty excited when I saw that they served beef ribs because for some reason quite a few of the BBQ places I've been to don't serve beef ribs and only offer pork ribs. Anyway I ordered the beef ribs and the beef brisket as my two meats. I was VERY impressed with the beef ribs because the meat was very tender, flavorful, and fell right off the bone! It tasted amazing and I didn't feel the need to douse it in barbeque sauce because of lack of taste. The beef brisket was equally as good and I would describe it as tender, tasty, and moist. The meat here is DEFINITELY done right! The two sides I got was the rice and gravy and the mashed potatoes and gravy. I did like their gravy because there are actual chunks/pieces of meat in the gravy. I'd probably skip the rice and gravy and just stick to the mashed potatoes and gravy next time just because I enjoyed the taste of the mashed potatoes and gravy more. For dessert I tried both the apple pie a la mode and the brownie hot fudge sundae. The brownie hot fudge sundae was actually too sweet and chocolately for my taste. The apple pie a la mode was AMAZING. The apple pie had a very authentic taste as well and the crust was amazing. It had the right amount of sweet without being overbearing and had just enough crunch with just enough doughy-ness mixed together. I was very surprised by the portion sizes of the desserts because they're pretty generous. They definitely looked to me like they were meant to be shared between at least two people. The portion sizes were pretty generous and the price for the portion sizes was pretty good! There was no wait to be seated when I went and the waitress kept my glass filled with water and the food came out in a timely fashion. Overall, I had a great experience and the food was good. It definitely won't be my last visit to Canyon City Barbeque. If you're a fan of authentic/homemade tasting food, DEFINITELY check this place out.

Wife and I went to this place and ordered to go. The Ribs were so good. The chicken was delicious. I recommend this place. The only thing is that I would put a little less babeque sauce on the ribs so I can put it on to taste. Other than that, I'm a fan!

We love their BBQ! By far one of the best, and my husband is not a fan of BBQ. We have always had great service, and quality food. There can be a wait, but what else can you expect if the food is that good? Our kids 3 and 6 enjoy it as well. The kids menu is great, and allows them to get exactly what they like. We haven't been disappointed.

They have the thighs that will cross your eyes The breast that is better than the rest The woman....never mind, we're talking about food This place is on my too 5 list of BBQs of all time. The pulled pork is juicy, the meat from the ribs fall off the bone and the place looks like a house. What more could you ask for?

Canyon City Bareque is probably one of my favorite places to have BBQ. I would definitely have many recommendations for meals to try. Warning: Some meals can be enough for two. BBQ salad: You get a choice on the meat you can add. With beans, lettuce, cheese, and much more to it. It may sound disgusting in the combinations that they put in, but boy does that salad taste wonderful. Sampler: Not sure what to get? try the Canyon City sampler plate, you get a little bit of everything from briskets to chicken, and from ribs, to sausage. Comes with sides which is a whole another topic to discuss about. Briskets: Definite must here. You may want to get here early to try as it does happen to be one of the first thing they usually run out of quickly. Sweet Potato Fries: These are simply amazing and wonderful. Had to literally fight my friends for them, even after ordering another order. Corn bread: many places has corn bread that is just plain and dry. With here the bread is actually warm and delicious nearly melting in your mouth as you savor the taste it gives. Mashed Potato and Gravy: You can never go wrong with mashed potato and gravy is what people would normally say. Canyon City can easily make you take those words back by providing wonderful mashed potato that is actuallyfilling, and tasteful. It is not the type of cheap runny mashed potato, ladies and gentlemen, this is how mashed potatos should be. Sweet Tea: Theyhave their own style of sweet tea not exactly as the others have for southern style sweet tea but it still is pretty tasty (had to refrain from getting too much refill so I can at least eat the food). There are so much more that they provide in their menu, tri tip, ribs, pulled pork, burgers, and more. But honestly, when you are their try their BBQ selections and I gurantee that you will not regret it. Finally information to part, service may seem to be a bit unsatisfactory to some people and I have noticed some others had complained that the servers may seem to have the unfriendly look. I wager that may mostly be because they are really busy and are on the constant move servicing people so expect some slight delay or servers acting a bit rushed during busy hours. There are a few waitresses and lots of customers. Now I do not know why you are still reading this if you are, you should have already been on your way to this place before you are halfway through in reading my review. If you have read my review to the end congratulations, but you just missed about a minute headstart in trying to get the to place and are letting someone else take your chance to eat and enjoy your time there. So go! :)

My son loves the brisket, tri-tip and pulled pork. Me- chicken breast. We try to get there early before it gets super crowded but even when it's busy we have a good meal. Just a bit noisier. Love Mary and Nick!! The tea is good, not weak. Wish it was closer to Ontario.

Read the reviews and had to try it..... The Cheeseburger (two hand made charbroiled patties) was excellent, the fries were just ok and my wife liked the pulled pork on a french roll. All you can drink sodas and friendly service made it well worth the trip. Total bill $24 including tip.

When we first moved in to Azusa, we kept wondering how good this place really was as my hubby and I both love BBQ and ribs in general. So when we finally made a date night out of it, we were excited to check this place out especially since it's such a local spot. First of all, the inside is very super casual of a restaurant. The food was just okay, it wasn't bad. I guess we had high expectations, so we were a bit disappointed. Maybe one day we'll give it a 2nd try.

Best BBQ in the San Gabriel Valley hands down. 1/2 the price as Lucille ' s and way better. Beef ribs could be meatier though. The brisket is the most tenderest I've ever had. Pulled pork, and tri tip are also very good. Get the 4 meat combo for around $20 and leave full with some left over's. I've been to places like gus' s bbq and Matt denny's and both those places are horrible. When I BBQ I smoke my meat and cook all day long, and you can tell they do also.

Came here from out of town for the RenFaire and insisted we get to SoCal in time for dinner here -they do close early (8pm), but they let customers in until then and still give great service. We made it by 7 and they still had pork ribs - YUM! Falling off the bone, served with their wonderful sticky, sweet, tangy sauce and sides of smoky beans and homestyle cornbread. Dependably delicious. Very casual atmosphere with friendly service. Load of cops eating there as we left, which is a good sign, like Asians in a Chinese restaurant!

I don't believe Californians know what BBQ should taste like. The meat should have a smoky flavor throughout. This place does not come close to BBQ. Also, mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a box. Coleslaw was drowning in mayo. Really don't understand what people like about this food...

Beef brisket for the win. The beef was so soft with the perfect amount of bbq sauce. Very good. Too bad that the BBQ beef ribs is only available at 4pm.

I had their catered BBQ at an event and was in the area last night so we visited the restaurant. It had a larger dining room than it looked like it would from outside. Not fancy at all, very much a roadhouse atmosphere. My wife doesn't like BBQ places. She tried a pulled chicken quesadilla with grilled onions and cheese and she loved it and wants to go back. Yea! I had a combo of pork ribs and hotlinks. The ribs were pretty tasty. I liked the sauce (we used the sweet sauce, they have another that is tangy that we didn't try). The hotlinks were so spicy that I couldn't finish them. I love hotlinks but these killed my taste buds. For sides I got the BBQ beans which were assume, among the best I have had, and the mashed potatoes and gravy, which were pretty bland. No bread comes with the mean, which is unusual. You can choose Texas toast or cornbread as one of two sides. I think next time, I'll try the brisket. That seemed to be a popular selection.

Awesome BBQ and old fashion atmosphere. If its your first time, get the sampler platter so you can try all of their meats. It's big enough to split with someone else unless you have a mighty appetite.
