Village Host Pizza & Grill Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

Look, I enjoy good food - really good food. I have also ordered a lot of pizzas and sandwiches over the years from various pizza restaurants in Capitola, Soquel and Santa Cruz . I recently called in to place an order late on a Thursday night at about 10 minutes to closing. They treated me very well - and, although ten minutes to closing, they said we' be there in 30 minutes! It was at my house and on time. All along they were pleasant, accommodating and the sandwiach and pizza were delicious. The best service and some of the best pizza I have had on the Monterey Bay!

Great pizza place and very nice staff. Liked the little side bar to order beers. Asked for a few tastes and he was happy to oblige. Agree with other review. Light red sauce is critical to good pizza! And it was light. Thank you! Had the Hawaiian and ur was good but didn't like the run still in the ham which probably doesn't matter to most people. I saw a few sandwich he's delivered and they looks reallY nice and toasty and filed with a lot of meat!

Went to get an order for take out stood by front counter listening to woman behind counter for over 5 minutes on her cell with personal call. Never got to order so I have no idea how there food is. Service absolutely sucks

I used to live down the street, and this is my favorite pizza/sandwich place. I would order a custom pizza, chicken, onion, garlic, bell peppers. When we would play rounds of golf at the Seascape golf course, I would get two chicken pesto sandwiches for the game. This is definitely a family friendly place, and it's situated in a nice little shopping center.

If you are thinking about eating here-don't. Firstly, I waited two hours for my cheese pizza. When the pizza was ready, they didn't bring it to me and I had to personally ask for it at the counter. Secondly, when I took a bite out of the pizza, it burned my mouth and was way too hot. I am never going there again and would never recommended it.

This establishment is most definitely not worth the lifetime waiting for a single mediocre slice. Even as our pizza was ready and getting a lil chilly the employees refrained to inform us with a holler that our number was currently available. May I also add that the man portrayed on the logo eerily resembles the monopoly man.

  • Gina M.

Great pizza but wait too long salad bar okay. Workers nice and friendly. Location very nice near a beach resort. They have video games for the kids and some flat screen tv's.

  • Arnel L.

We had a small sausage, mushroom, pepperoni. I thought it was pretty good. The crust was crispy just how I like it. One thing that bugs me about Pizza My Heart is the soggy crust. I thought the wait, however, was a bit long. It was over 30 minutes for small 3 topping. We're not from around here, so we'll never be regulars, but we drop by the next time we're around.

We have been customers of Village Host for over 10 years. They have been our go to pizza place usually on a weekly basis. Well not anymore! Tonight my husband called to order a pizza for me to pick up on my way home. He was told it would be 30 minutes. I arrived about 40 minutes later. I was told they didn't have an order for me. They suggested my husband called the Capitola store instead. I confirmed the number and the time my husband called. The girl suggested that my husband was lying and acted as if she couldn't care less about loosing my order. I understand they're busy and lost orders can happen. But it's how the business handles the problem that makes for a happy or unhappy customer. If the girl had apologized and then simply offered to put in a new order I would have been miffed but appeased. But to be completely apathetic and rude they just lost a customer.

Decent pizza with quality toppings. The kids loved the arcade. They could use some improvement on their beer selections in the bar. Also a bit run down and could use a face lift.

    (3)
  • John F.

Lackluster, pricey for what you get, the large is the size of a medium. I live in the neighborhood and the pizza is never consistently cooked. But try it for yourself once.

  • Eileen T.

Horrible customer service! Called and ordered a pizza and was put on hold TWICE for over three minutes each time. Was told pizza would take 45-50 minutes. Called after an hour and a half, and know that sometimes these things happen and they are busy etc. Was told it was in its way and it has now been over two hours. Called again, and was told there was nothing they would do about it and that is was "on its way" have starving kids and the fact that they were so rude about it, makes it even worse. Won't be ordering for them anymore which is a real bummer. We have been loyal customers for four years...

Great place for pizza if you're staying at Seascape! Makes for a nice walk and I love pizza that has a crispy crust! Try the garlic chips! Yum!!!!!! Save your leftovers because pizza is better the next day too! They have several TV's so you can watch your favorite sports too!

We stopped in last night an hour before closing. While we waited, we noticed the floor in the dining area was filthy and at least 5 tables had not been cleared off. I have had better frozen pizzas than the pizza we had and the pesto bread tasted like it was a glorified hamburger bun. Maybe this was an off night, but I would recommend saving your money and your taste buds!

I went here recently for a coworker's promotional party. They were very accommodating with our large group. Our group had at least 30 people and they were very prompt with getting the food ready in a timely fashion. They also had no problem with us hanging out after most of the party left. We challenged their silverware and plate supply though, and they ran out of beer pitchers. Their pizza was average and their drink setup is odd. I would go here again, but it's not in the restaurant rotation. I may call them up from the bench occasionally though.

  • Mike F.

Worst pizza on the planet. Crust is completely flavorless. I mean, even my kids commented on how bland the pizza is. The salad bar is located directly beneath a neon sign which makes it nearly impossible to see the colors of the various veggies and such, which is sad because it really deterred me from wanting to buy a salad. To top it all off, it took 25 minutes before the pizza was ready. The only reason I even gave it one star is because it is located only a couple miles away which is convenient. That being said, I would drive to downtown Santa Cruz for a better pie.

    (1)
  • Chris Y.

Really, the only reason we ate here was because we were staying nearby at Seascape. The pizza is mediocre at best, and the wait was really long, especially for a Monday night when it wasn't that busy.

    (2)
  • Meredith G.

Waited for an hour for our pizza only to find that they had forgotten to call our name. It had been sitting behind the register for 40 minutes and was cold. No one apologized. The large amount of staff seemed incompetent. The pizza was also greasy.

  • Dana W.

RUDE! I called early in the day to let them know I would need 5 large pizzas for my son's birthday later in the day. They asked me to call back 45 minutes before I needed the pizza because they didn't have the capability to pre-order. Knowing the World Series would be on later, I called 1 hour before we needed the pizzas. I was told the wait would be close to an hour, perfect. I called before leaving to pick them up, and was told they hadn't even started the pizzas. Me:" but you told me they would be ready" VH gal: "Oh well, they aren't, it will be at least another 1/2 hour to 45 minutes". Me" really? How will I know they'll even be ready then, you haven't even started?" VH: "we are busy". Never an apology or acknowledgement. The pizza is good, once you get it. But being one of the only places is Aptos and South County-they don't care. The adults at the birthday party had a good laugh as they told their VH customer service nightmares.

Really needs to be updates. Everything seems to be falling apart. Decent food, but nothing to write home about. Their vegetarian pizza however, is dynamite and packed full of fresh veggies.

Convenient for us as we live in the area. Pizza is ok. Just ok. Sandwiches and salad are better. If your in the area and need some food give it a try.

I order from here on a regular basis. The pizza is usually fantastic, once in awhile we'll get a pizza thats just ok, but usually its as good or better than any other pizza I've come across in Santa Cruz and I've lived here for a long time. This review isn't about the pizza though, its about the service. So I ordered a large 3 topping pizza a few nights ago and the crust was unusually thin making the pizza floppy. It wasn't a huge deal, but I called back anyway thinking maybe they had a new cook or something and thought I'd give them some feedback. No questions asked they told be to come back in 20min and they'd have a new pizza for me, keep the old one. They offered to deliver it but I live right down the street so I came in to save us both time. I went in and the guy hands me the pizza and my money back. I told him its not a big deal he can keep the money, but he insisted so I did. He apologized, explaining that they were running low on doe and they were trying to use less per pizza than they usually do. In my 15 years of ordering from here they've never been out of anything I've ordered. The pizza was great and had extra cheese and toppings. Thanks for the free pizzas!

  • Karne N.

I am not a huge pizza fan, but I have to say their pizza is excellent. I had the pizza sandwich for dinner and thought it was extremely tasty. Others had the cheese pizza and pineapple/ham pizza which I did not try. We took a mushroom/pepperoni pizza back to Seascape with us to eat while we watched the Olympics. It was totally delicious (even if we were disgusted at ourselves for eating so much). Would go back any time I'm in that area. The kids had fun playing video games and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Even the boxed wine wasn't bad.

Don't waste your time with this establishment. In town for the weekend and tried to find a local spot to get some food delivered. Called to order a bunch of food only to find out their promotions can only be redeemed using their online ordering system. No big deal, although they said their online system doesn't work on smart phones or tablets (what year is this now???). Good thing I have my laptop (which is also making this review much easier to write as we're minutes removed from my awful experience). I go through the online ordering process only to be given an error message saying the online promotion is no longer available, although the website says otherwise. I call back asking what the deal is and all they can say is the promotion has to be ordered online as previously stated, and that they cannot be of any further assistance. When I ask about using one of the online coupons, they say it has to be printed out (again, what year is this now???). I wish I could have tried the pizza, but zero effort to actually assist their customer means I will be finding somewhere else to eat. They don't deserve my business.

I have been to this place about four times. Only because it is so close to where we stay. Pizza is rather poor and highly priced. Sandwiches are pretty bland. Main guy behind the counter lacks customer skills. That's all I have to say about that.

    Best pizza locally, hands down!

I am revising my previous review. After my previous bad experience with a very delayed delivery, the manager of the Aptos Village Host sent us an apologetic email and a coupon for a free pizza. While the original experience was unacceptable, I appreciate the sincere effort to make it right. We will continue to patronize the Host - the pizza is still the best.

Great pizza I'd put it against any in town when it's cooked correctly. Service is hit or miss Kinda pricey but you get what you pay for! Family friendly and very cool sports or arcade. Bar with cheap beer and sodas Good location and lots of parking Sweet local hang out spot. We almost always see someone we know. Try the "Tripe P" pizza Or the chicken in a green dress. Off menu specials Also print out a coupon online to save $4!

Best pizza in Santa Cruz period. Ive had pizza all over california, chicago, nyc, and even Italy and Village Host is still my favorite. Not to mention the burgers are unbelievable. I drive out of my way at least once a week to enjoy Village Host.

  • Vince C.

Pizza was ok, but service was really bad. If you don't mind waiting for over an hour for 2 pizzas. We went to ask what was going on, they told us another 20 minutes, but 20 minutes came and went. Another 10 minutes elapsed, they finally got out pizza. We asked for the manager and asked why it took over an hour for our pizza. The mgr in charge, apologized and blamed that the bottom oven was not working. This is unacceptable, the manager should gone around the tables and notified the customers and given something for waiting around for an hour. Salad, breadsticks, free drinks would of fix the situation but none of that happened. Poor service all around. Should of gone to the other restaurants around this mall.

Love love love there combination pizza . The absolute best traditional crust pizza I've ever had. There vegetables are fresh and a little crunchy the amount of cheese they use is perfect as well as the sauce. Actually I can't say enough about the crust. It has that perfect taste with that crunch I always desire but rarely find. Yummy yummy, the bad part is once I come with my daughter we remember how great the pizza is and crave it everyday which is not good for my diet. Also the price is good we paid 14.00 for a combination

I warned you about this review more than a year ago Village Pizza...or whatever the heck your name is. Don't think you can get away with turning away girls that are hungry! We were craving a later dinner and pizza sounded great. It also sounded great because we were staying at the resort across the street and there were like zero options. Note: when your hours on your door say you close in approximately 30 more minutes, you let someone in to your establishment to eat. In fact, having your doors locked while people are inside eating and before your closing time is not the smartest business scheme. I realize that pizza takes a bit of time to cook and we will probably be there longer than 30 minutes, but hey that's the restaurant business. Deal with it. If you refuse customers then you get reviews like these. We would have been understanding too, believe me. We would have just ordered it to go and taken it back to our suite, had you let us in! Yes, one of us in our group may have been a little vocal about the situation (not it!) and perhaps we had had a little to drink earlier that day....but that is no reason to next threaten us and say you are going to call the cops if we don't get off of your property. Geeeez. 20 year old boy working at the pizza place in a tiny town on a Saturday night, get a life.

Stopped by during a Sunday drive and I was pleasantly surprised. Had a plain ole pepperoni pizza which was excellent, it had a perfect crunchy crust. I'd definitely come back here if I ever found myself in the same area again.

I came here last night with a friend. This review is more about the salad bar and staff not protecting the health of its customers. There was a customer here last night ... maybe 5'5 with large circular framed glasses. She was sitting at a small table immediately to the left of the front door. According to staff, she comes into Village Host every other day. This customer was making humongous towering salads and stuffing the fixings into a pizza box that she'd placed on the seat next to her. Not a big deal, you may say ... she *did* buy the "All you can eat" bowl. Well, she was picking items out of her salad bowl with her fingers, licking and wiping them off with napkins, and then proceeding to put those into the pizza box. She even picked up things off of the table with her fingers and ate them as well. Fer Chrissakes - she wiped dressing off of the bottom of the bowl (table side NOT food side) and licked it clean. My friend and I saw this woman make 3 trips to the salad bar. No telling how many trips she made because she was here when we arrived & we left before her. Another thing - this obnoxious woman had the gall to tell staff that they were running OUT of things in the salad bar. Seriously? They're out of things at the bar because those items are in THE PIZZA BOX! The manager had a long talk with her. Apparently the one he's had with her before. Instead of puttin his foot in her butt and kickin her out, he lets her stay. FIVE MINUTES LATER she was making another Mount Whitney salad and nobody said a damn thing. So. My interpretation of this is : Village Host does NOT care about the possibility of cross contamination of their UNCOOKED vegetable salad bar and dressing from the unhygienic patron that the staff KNOWS about and TOLERATES. Hope you don't get the shits -or- die from salmonella or e.coli the next time YOU decide to eat there.

I am actually writing my review about the NEW Village Host Pizza place on Bay Avenue in Capitola, across from Nob Hill. I went in there tonight to order a take out pizza. I have been to their Seascape Village Host. These I believe are owned by the same family. I have to say that this is the BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER EATEN HANDS DOWN, and I have eaten pizza from many places. This Village Host Pizza has been opened for a little over a week, I think. Anyhow it might be because the owner was there ACTUALLY WORKING ALONG WITH HIS PEOPLE like a person who really cares!! What a concept these days, right? Anyhow I just have to say, the Village Host Pizza place is as good as the Seascape one!! There is something different about their pizza dough, I think. Also they don't overdo it on the pizza sauce. And the toppings were so good!! I had a takeout of a large salami, sausage, onion, mushroom, and olive. And i have to confess that the entire large pizza was for me by myself!! All I can say is go forth and get soem of the best pizza you have ever eaten in your life!! And i heard it form a friend that their burgers are awesome also!!

Combo pizza Salad bar Pitcher beer (nice price on pitcher beer) Update-went in late FEB 2012 with intentions of using a $4 coupon from their website...but alas they don't except the coupon unless it's PRINTED! Are you frickin kidding me?? This is 2012 and the California coast just south of Santa Cruz! Printing a coupon is a waste if paper and ink! I was hugely disappointed! The food was still marvelous though.

I'm sorry to say that after many reasonable experiences in the restaurant I finally convinced myself to order for local delivery (as in 1/2 mile away) and am EXTREMELY disappointed. I write this as I am 1:15 wait for a delivery that was expected in 45 minutes. Huge bummer. The kids and momma are hungry. VH you can do better than this if you choose to, otherwise you are going to continue losing business to HWY1 and others.....five minutes later the pizza arrives and it's guess what - luke warm at best. Come on VH!!!!

    1. Ordered online on a Wed. Night. Easy system. Delivery estimate was one hour, and my order arrived right at the one hour mark. Really friendly delivery guy. Got the Complete pizza (veg and meat). Piping hot, thick with toppings, crisp crust (which I love)--a totally excellent pizza. 2. Ate in on a Friday at lunchtime. Plenty of seating (seat yourself) and the staff was friendly. Strange two register system for sandwich/pizza area vs beverage area. Probably something legal to do with serving beer. Hot roast beef sandwich w/ jack cheese--tasty on an oven-crisped roll. Nice salad bar. Simple, but fresh and surprising to see in a sandwich/pizza place. Casual, relaxed setting. Family environment.

I was annoyed with all of the 1-2 star reviews so I had to write up a review. I've been eating Village Host ever since I was a kid. We had little league parties here, birthday parties, etc.. the pizza has always been good and consistent.. the staff is great. When I come back to Aptos from the Bay Area and I am in the mood for pizza..this place is my #1 choice! Also I LOVE their Terriyaki Chicken Sandwich! (It has a lot of mayo but its yummy and reminds me of home!)

I went here on a Monday night with friends to watch the MSU vs. UNC championship basketball game. The place was overrun with families and loads of little kids running around (at one point they were being completely obnoxious in the arcade portion of the restaurant). We were pretty engrossed in the game though, so we pretended not to notice (besides, everyone pretty much cleared out by 8pm or so). My boyfriend and I shared a medium "Triple P" pizza: pepperoni, pesto, and pineapple. There was cheddar cheese drizzled over the top. The pizza was ready pretty quickly and it was quite delicious. The crust was the perfect texture. Our total came to about $17. Bonus: there were enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

We were staying at the resort and all 10 us 4 adults and 6 kids went there at 630 pm and it was not that busy. We got served 1.5 hours after ordering how long does it take to make a pizza? The staff was kind of rude the food over priced and mediocre quality at best. Much rather eat at the restraunt at the resort or the mexican restraunt. Very slow cruddy service. I go there every year and won't be going to this pizza place again.

Way expensive beer. Pizza is just ok. Service is poor. Oh! By the way it's seat yourself cafeteria style.

We like it! Good food at a fair price tucked away in a quiet area! Will come back when we visit again.

Came here last saturday because I was fishing at a couple nearby beaches. I ordered a personal size pizza with artichoke and it was delicious. I ate the whole thing without breathing. hahah It was very fresh and cheesy and it reminded me of costco pizza. Also, we came here before the rush and their were a lot of kids and family there.

For a pizza place i have yet to order and try them.every time i eat here i either go for the burgers or salad bar right away.the burgers are really good!!!i usually go before it gets crowded so the wait is short.one of these days i guess ill try ordering their pizza and see how it is. just a heads up,bring cash for the soda/drinks since you pay for it separately.

My favorite casual place to eat. The pizza is always SO good. In fact everything there is good, the burgers, sandwiches, garlic bread etc. Very reasonable prices and a fun atmosphere in gorgeous Seascape. I drive out of my way to come to VH!

At a friend's house last night, I had the triple-P pizza from Village Host - pineapple, pesto, and pepperoni. I had heard about it before, but had never tried it. Wow! Great mix of spicy, savory, and sweet. I think there is some type of sauce drizzled over the top too that brings all the flavors together. I'll give a four for this pizza - sorry I have no clue what the restaurant is like, service, other dishes, etc. But if you go, get this pizza! They do deliver to the La Selva area, which is nice.

  • Zack L.

Getting a pizza here is always one of the highlights of coming back into town(La Selva), I now live in San Diego, but there are two or three "must-haves" when I roll back into the Bay Area, and getting one of their pizzas (pep and artichoke hearts is my fav!) is on the list. Good location, family-friendly, decent beer selection and a usually on-the-ball staff, yet to have a screwed up order to date!

  • David L.

So I tried them again only this time I called them instead of using their internet ordering. This time the pizza arrived on time and was hot. Best pizza in Aptos.

  • Laura R.

The only good thing I can say is they deliver. The pizza is very inconsistent with quality, consistent with make my stomach hurt however. There are better options in Aptos, now if only they would deliver!

Great Pizza and tasty sandwiches, they have an interesting setup to pay - like two different windows to pay for food and drinks. The pizza was great, and I would definitely enjoy another dinner or lunch here. They have a salad bar that looked simple and not to over exaggerate... just enough to get the job done.

  • Brian B.

I've never been a terribly huge fan of their pizza. I always find the crust sort of hard, burnt, and cardboard like. Still, it's not too bad and is nice to have once in awhile. They also serve a myriad of other grill items and are really involved with the local community, which is nice. The thing I remember most about Village Host from when I was younger is the 2 - 3 arcade games in the back of the restaurant...

Good sandwiches! Pizza is good too but a bit pricey. Pay $5 for a cheap frozen pizza at Safeway (or homemade) or $20 for a good pizza of the same size. Drop prices about $3 for a large and I think your sales will increase and we'll skip the frozen pizza or homemade pizza more often.

It's a good place for kids to run around and for parents not to worry. Safe environment. Pizza is ok. Definitely better selection in town. Staff is a little cold. They seem put out by requests. I had a pesto chicken sandwich, which was decent, but I wanted a little more pesto. Staff behind the counter acted like I wanted a cup of pesto instead of just a small container. I wasted $2.00 on a broken video game for my son and asked for a refund. Guy behind counter said, "I can only give you $2.00 back. It's not even our video games". I am getting tired of this". That's not my problem. It's your establishment, you have the video games there. Get rid of them if they are a hassle. I don't know, the staff just has a very odd, distant feel. It's good in a pinch if you are hungry. But, I won't seek it out.

I really only go here because I live close by. The pizza is okay, but it gives me really bad indigestion. I think their pizza sandwhich (on a french roll) is more enjoyable. But, the thing to get here is the burger. They use good meat. I'll often get the double cheeseburger. It comes with a small bag of chips. I just wish they had more side items to choose from. The salad bar isn't the greatest. Don't be surprised if the place is a filthy mess. For some reason, many of the families that eat here are complete slobs. And, the staff is often not in a big hurry to clean up after them.

  • Shauna B.

Pizza was meh. The toppings were good but the crust was like cardboard. The place was not clean and the bathrooms were sickening. They also said they ran outta lettuce, so no salad bar. My husband asked them, "why don't you run down to Safeway and buy some lettuce?" Oh, we did he said and Safeway was out of lettuce. C'mon really! Bleh meh I say!

This is one of the pizza places, that my husband and I love to go to. We live in San Jose, so we don't get here too often. When we are headed to the coast, we are definitely headed to Village Host. Every year, my extended family stays at a beach house on Manresa State Beach for a week and we always go Village Host once or twice. The crust is a medium crust in my book. Not thin, but not super thick and doughy either. It is sightly crispy on the bottom and stays flat when you pick it up. It has cornmeal on the bottom for sliding it in and out of the oven. I like that texture. The sauce is interesting and has a lot of flavor/spices. The cheese is the real stuff and tastes really good. They put a generous portion all the way out to the edge (bonus points for that!) One of the things I use to evaluate a pizza place is the sausage. Village Host sausage ROCKS! It is not that nasty pre-processed type (think Round Table) or the pre-cooked sliced kind. This is little lumps of fresh yummy sausage cooked right on the pizza. Soooooo gooood!!! When they had a shop in Redwood City, we used to drive all the way there just for a "fix". You need to try this place if you love great pizza. THe extra bonus is that there you are at Seascape just steps away from some of the best beaches in the area.

We came to Aptos for a California State Sheriffs conference for 4 days in november 2012. i love pizza with a crisp crust and a good red sauce. We live in Northern California , which doesn't have decent pizza anywhere I try. This place was great for a good crust and sauce! I look forward to going back to the Santa Cruz area only to go this restaraunt!!! I live near Reno and I have not found anything even close to their pizza. The staff was also great the night we went. I had to eat there twice and this pizza place is the only reason I would go back to the Santa Cruz area, not the boardwalk

surprised to see so many negative reviews here, but one aspect I can agree on... oh man, I definitely felt this pizza the next morning. even moreso than the 5th of Jameson. anyhoo... standard pizza fare. of the chains, it reminds of Round Table, which depending on your taste and preferences can be a good thing or a bad thing. each time we ordered, went and picked up instead of delivery, and the pie was always piping hot even by the time we got it home. prices aren't the cheapest but the pie isn't half bad. Im not raving about it, but im not ranting either.

One of the best pizzas I have ever had... perfect medium thickness, crispy crust, amazing sauce (not too much either), and real cheese. The sausage is also amazing.

Timely deliverly. Crust was crunchy and flavorful. Good value.

  • Bob F.

Possibly some of the worst pizza I've ever had. We got delivery and it was very timely but the pizza was simply awful. Would have been better served going to the store and getting frozen. Cardboard consistency crust, cheap canned sauce and then it settled like a bowling ball after eating. FAIL.

This review has been long in the making. I work across the street at the Seascape Resort . It was about 1.5 years ago I was working swing shift one night and called to order a pizza for pick up. I was told by the female employee that they were no longer taking orders for the evening. She advised me they did not take orders after 9:30pm. I pulled my phone away from my ear to glance at my cell phones "Network Time", it read 9:23pm. Keep in mind the hours posted on the business door says they are open until 10pm this particular night. A little flustered as to why they would not make a pizza with over 35 minutes until closing time, I headed over to speak with a manager. Upon arrival I tried ordering again just to test the waters and no go. By now it was 9:27pm and I asked for the manager. The manager came out and met with me, saw my uniform from the resort and yelled to the employees to go ahead and make me a pizza. No apologies, really no emotion in the guy at all. I departed with such a bad customer service experience and on top of all the other complaints I'd heard from other resort guests, I decided I would never return there again. Mind you I am a pizza lover and by now would have spent hundreds of dollars there. I also made it a point to never refer any resort guests to this place. I would not want to wear the burdon of sending a guest there only to have them come back and say they didn't like who I reccommended. The pizza at the time I remember being very good and tasty. I did break down and go here 2 times since this incident once for a friend who was having her sons birthday party there and once with a co-worker on a whim one night and both times the pizza was not so good. The crust literally tasted like cardboard , with low grade cheese and the sauce was just tasteless. All around a not so yummy pizza. Therefor solidifying my original plan never to return to the place again. If you value customer service and good pizza this is not a place that offers either.

Well... what can I say... we didn't want to get our sober on to actuallty go and pick up our pizza... so we called the closest place to deliver and it was decent considering in our druken stupor.. we wanted food... so.. it fitted the purpose. thank you for the pizza but it wasn't the best or even worth writing about other than we are at a resort and we need food. We appreciate that but it was as good as we could get at any grocer store and for a lot less... oh well my belly feels good!

I have been coming here since I was a kid and I even worked here at one time. The pizza is delish, my favorite is the combination pizza with no mushrooms or cheese and olive. The salad bar is a must cause they make their own ranch dressing, and its amazing. I also really really love the hot ham and cheese sandwich, but then again the chicken teriyaki sandwich is also good too

Best little pizza joint in Aptos! Awesome for locals and group gatherings. Fun atmosphere, good food!

  • Al R.

This is just my personal opinion. Any place that uses yellow cheese on pizza will take a hit from me. Yellow cheese on pizza? That's almost like using canned tomato sauce for pasta sauce. It should be gastronomically illegal. And perhaps slapped with a one year probation from stepping foot on Italian soil!. That's what Chucky Cheese is for. I don't make any effort of going to Village Host because it's just average. They've been around a long time so I guess they make enough people happy - just not someone who grew up in the East.

  • Russ J.

The pizza is pretty decent. Not as good as Aptos Pizza or Pizza 1, but close. Better than any of the chain pizzas though. Crust a little thick, tasty sauce, always cooked just right. They also have some pretty good sandwiches, particularly the burgers and chicken sandwich. They're served on toasted french rolls. A drawback is you get a small bag of chips with them, no fries. Service is friendly, but sometimes turns into a teenage social event behind the counter if the owner is not there. Bussing tables gets very low priority. However, if you have kids, this is the best place in Aptos due to the ample parking, good sized dining room and video games.

After reading the other reviews, I expected more. I orderd a takeout pie. Pepperoni with 1/2 anchovies. I also did a take out salad bar. The pizza was OK. I confess I prefer thin crust with just enough cheese to cover the pie. This was too thick and the cheese was too heavy, so that it covered the taste of the pie. The salad greens were fresh. The seemed to have alot of odd things on the salad bar. I worried about turn over. The pizza here would be fine if you are looking for easy take out food to serve at a game or a movie night, but it would be hard to get excited about this place as a destination for pizza. I would call ahead for take out - 20 -30 minutes.

My favorite pizza in Santa Cruz County! Their pesto pizza freaking ROCKS. Great place to go with a bunch of friends or your family. I usually call ahead for take-out, available in 20min.

The pizza is good. The produce is fresh. The salad bar is great. and this is my perfect Friday night spot where my boys can go bananas in the video arcade, because every other kid is doing the same thing.

This place gave us great food, and great drink. They are one of one of the few pleaces that has fanta. The pizzia was great.

the pizza was good, but it was heavy so you definitely don't want to go here if you are looking to eat "light". There was a lot of grease and a lot of cheese with thick crust, the taste is good but you do really feel it the next day, even for pizza it's a heavy meal. What this place really has going for it is the atmosphere, it's simple and feels like the neighborhood pizza parlor, the kind of place that sponsors your kids soccer team and gives the team free pizza after the game. The beer selection is good too, a good place to go to every once in a while.

  • Dick H.

I love the Host. The pizza is not gourmet but the hot sandwiches and burgers are great. Good salad bar and it's a great place to take the kids. (video games) My favorite thing on the menu is the hotlink sandwich.

Host is GREAT!! Very unique pizza....craveable texture and crispy crust. And the granulated "stuff" is cornmeal dude.and its delicious!!! Try the veggie pizza for yummy flavorful veggies.and if you are craving something unique i used to loved straight up pineapple pizza here....yum...... great for kids too.oh and a block from the ocean....yay seascape.

I have been going to Village Host Pizza for years. I absolutely love it. The pizza is great, but what I really love is their Teriyaki Chicken sandwich with jack cheese. Their salad bar is the best kept secret in the county - great lettuce, artichoke hearts, salami, and all the rest, at a very reasonable price. Nice, friendly staff. Great location with easy parking.

    (5)
  • Vi N.

The pizza was EHHHH okay. it was kind of inconvenient because you have to buy the drinks and salad separately....kinda weird actually. the people there were...not very nice. they were caucasian and looked at us kind of weird. never going there ever again.

Don't order pizza from here by phone unless you like being on hold for 20 min. (and no thats not an exaggeration) It happenes everytime I call. The worst part is once hung up and I drove down and they were not all that busy. The pizza is mediocre at best. most of the time the crust is burnt. The staff is rude, and the place is usually filthy. The ONLY reason I ever eat there is when I dont feel like driving since I live in the neighborhood. A much better alternative is Pizza 1 only a few miles away, or Woodstocks in Downtown SC if you want to take the family out for the Video games and sports on the flat sceens. I have to Agree with some of the other posts the only thing really worth getting at Village host is the Burgers. I really hate to slam them like this since I am all about supporting my local business's but the owners and managment need to take a hard look at how this place is runned.
