I seriously wish I could give this restaurant zero stars, one is too many! The food here is horribly bland. Worst Chinese food I've ever had and even worse customer service. It's close to the house so I stop by out of ease of accessibility from time to time but never again. They serve all of their hot food in styrofoam containers (which leech toxins when in contact with hot food) and they refuse to produce alternate packaging. Do yourself a favor and go to Waterwheels or anywhere else.

Food is great and service is excellent best I had from most restaurants. Quick and tasty, with great value.

We used tovisit this place at least once a month. This last time I went, however, is my my final visit. We always went with a big crowd (4-5 families). There was always good seeting for all of our kids, etc. But since the management or name change, their customer service has been really bad. The food seems the same to me, but the specials changed a lot. We were used to just walking in and not even looking at the menu. This last time it seems the new staff is very disoriented as to how the restaurant is supposed to run. They were very unorganized in taking our order and getting it out to us. Like I said, the food was the same, but we're always going everywhere with a big family/crowd, and we want service just like they want tips. We will not be visiting this place again. The guy taking our order was like "Come to the front and get your tickets when you're ready to go"... Really? You want us out that bad? Rude....

Mei Mei's, now known as The Rice Bowl. Has the worst Customer service I have had in a Antioch business. My wife and I went there tonight for dinner. We had not been there sense they changed the name. The place was near empty with only 2 tables or 4 people total. We ordered and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. My wife had Spicy green beans with beef I had the Lemon chicken both were served as a plate which included rice and egg rolls and soup. My wife's food was cold and the beans had very little taste. My lemon chicken was pretty good. We were having a conversation and when the waitress came over. My wife explained that she was unhappy and would like to change it for lemon chicken or take it off our bill. She came back from talking with the owner and told us that he could NOT do that because she had eaten over half of it (which was not the truth) and we waited to long to tell him. I said you got to be kidding. He refused and continued to say it was OUR fault. I told him how he should treat customers and he said "I DON'T CARE" I mentioned that I would place this information on YELP he said it again. "I DON'T CARE..." If you have thoughts of going there please save your time and money and go to Panda Express. The owner is a jerk and did all this on the floor in front of other customers and his staff.

Wow. I just got an order last night and HAD to update my review. Ordered the usual amount of stuff we always get in order to qualify for the free egg rolls. Standard procedure with this place. I love freebies, so I always make a point of making sure the order qualifies. When our order was delivered, we didn't see any egg rolls nor the pot stickers we purchased. Small snafu. I called them up and they told me they didn't charge me for the pot stickers, so I didn't get the egg rolls. No idea why they didn't just call me about it. After arguing with me a bit to dissuade me from pushing for the freebie, they got a manager's approval, and agreed to send out the pot stickers with the free egg rolls. To their credit, the delivery was FAST and cheerful and they were nice about the mistake. Plus there were several extra egg rolls than usual. +1 star for customer service. However, when we started eating the dinner, I almost had a heart attack from ALL THE SODIUM in the food. My mouth was puckered and burning, and we were dying of thirst the rest of the night. Plus there was no sauce on the Sweet and Sour Pork - very dry. Stubbornly, I am trying to eat the leftovers for lunch right now and it tastes like they dumped a can of MSG into my Kung Pao. Kill me now, this stuff is going in the trashcan. Having second thoughts about trying this place ever again. For me, MSG and a TON of it to boot, is a no-go.

Kung pao beef is good; very spicy. General chicken is okay; could be better. Service was friendly and the prices are great! Best bang for your buck in the area.

Every city I move to I always have to find that awesome chinese food and id say this place is good enough. I've only gotten take out and the food is always good. The employees are friendly and quick to get you in and out.

I think it is the best Chinese in the East County - plus they deliver. Very good potstickers (which is a large factor in my evaluation of Chinese restaurants).

i have been going to this place since i moved to the hillcrest area, since it is so conveniently located for me. Especially when i am sick, i get shrimp wonton soup, which is a) my comfort food and one of those few thing my body will tolerate and b) because i haven't found another place in the area that makes their shrimp wonton soup without pork. The reason i know it doesn't contain pork is because...TA DA!, i check it, have taste buds, and i know what pork looks like. So here i am, sick, and i order my favorite soup. The waitress has NO idea what i am talking about and treats me like an idiot, very rude customer service. i try and explain that this is my standard order and i have never had a problem before. but again, she treats me like i am stupid. Granted, i hadn't ordered from the restaurant since the end of january-ish, so a couple months. Maybe the item had been removed from the menu. Nope, i was again berated and was told that it had never existed on their menu, pork had always been the filling. so i discuss this with some of the people i had shared it with, and who had occasionally picked it up for me, and they all agreed that the description i had given and thay i had gotten the location right ( in case i WAS crazy) I work in the restaurant biz as a server, so i know people can be rude, adamant, and down right wrong to get what they want regardless. When that's the case, i try my hardest to work with them to find something as close to what they desired in the first place. The manager was dismissive, and basically made me believe i had always ordered the wrong thing. Really? you thing someone that doesn't eat pork wouldn't check, or notice a bunch of pork falling out of these wontons? (i have to bite them in half, so there would be no missing it) I understand that it seemed the item was no longer available, but it was just very frustrating that they made me feel this way and offered no solutions to try and help a customer out, and treated me the way they did. This is one of my few reviews i posted because i generally dont feel the need to post comments, every restaurant has a bad day. Next time, i will drive a little farther for some better customer service.

I've had delivery service from Mei Mei several times now and have always been satisfied. Some of my observations: #1 - RIce and chow mein dishes are never too heavy or saucy. I like mine on the light side. #2 - Portions are generous. Have plenty for leftovers the next day. #3 - Delivery has always been faster than the 30-40 minutes they quote. #4 - I like that you can get a free rice, chow mein or pot stickers by spending $20 #5 - Prices seem reasonable to other restaurants in the area. They do charge a delivery fee

It was ok, nothing to ride home about. I wanted to see what the "rave" was all about, I tried it once, went back for a second try and it still was just OK. I will give it a 3rd try, not sure when.

This place is fairly new to Antioch. Excellent delivery time and in-house service. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food is wonderful. When we ordered fried asparagus for home delivery it arrived with tiny cut-outs in the box so it wouldn't get soggy. Have been back with friends and haven't had a bad meal.

Ordered delivery from here a few months ago. Food was just mediocre. Will probably not be coming back but, if we do, I'll dine in. Maybe we'll have a better experience then. For now, Asia Kitchen is still my favorite choice.

We have been coming here ever since thru opened. At first the food was decent but more convenient because of closeness and delivery. We love chow mein and don't like the noodles the use. After several trips, the chicken with sauce dishes all taste similar. The manager is very rude and will argue and refuses to compensate the customer for employees errors. Once found a rubber band in my lobster yee mein dish that obviously came off of the lobster. After a long argument that it was an honest mistake from the chef he did not want to compensate me but I insisted on either a fresh dish or refund, he angrily handed me a ten dollar bill as a refund. The last straw was when I wanted the very same lobster yer mein dish delivered for my birthday in March of 2014 and the new employee on the phone quoted me $12. I placed my full order and when it arrived , no lobster yee mein. I called and and said I still wanted it and when I was given the total I was charged $14.99 and an additional $2. for delivery. So I asked for the manager or owner and got the same gentleman(sorry, I don't know his name). He argued we me about the price then asked the new employee what price she quoted me. When he returned to the phone he said she claimed to give me the correct price and if I wanted them to come back out with the dish I would have to pay the additional $4. and that I was trying to take advantage of the situation and he would check the recording of the phone call in order to prove I was wrong. I told him to do that and call me back because I was positive she quoted me $12. We Jung up angry and when I tried to call back a week later my number had been blocked from their phone. He is a BIG JERK!! I am pretty sure he is the reason for lack of employee retention. There is a high rate of turnover.

I've done take out and delivery from this place a few times while living in Antioch and always happy with my meals. They are quick, good prices, tasty food and good customer service. Especially like the freebies when you order a certain amount of food. I've had several chicken dishes, prawns, chow mein, fried rice, soup and egg rolls or spring rolls. Never greasy or overcooked and make for great leftovers for a few days to come. I have not dined inside the actual restaurant since it was a Hi-Bar but the decor doesnt seem to have changed much when I've dropped in to pick up my orders.

Have been back to Mei Mei's a few times, and each visit we try something new. Have not been disappointed. The Chicken Corn Chowder soup and the Wor Won Ton soups are both very good. The portions are very large so there is always leftovers which taste just as good if not better the next day.

We ordered food for Chinese New Year and were very impressed. The food was delivered in 15 minutes even though on the phone we were told 30-45 minutes. The chow mein and fried rice were good. I really enjoyed the orange beef and peking spareribs. Wonton soup was very good too. We will definately try them again. Their menu is so big we cant wait to try more.

At last, a real chinese restaurant in the antioch area! After hearing rave reviews from my mom who is very critical of chinese food, we decided to try it. We walked in on a friday night for dinner. Seems the word is out that this place is good because it was pretty crowded inside and there was a line forming for take out. The food is definitely a 5 star, but since our service was extremely slow, and spotty, they lose one star. We waited an awfully long time to get our food. My 5 year old was getting bored eating the fortune cookies, that I had to whip out my IPhone for her to play with. We also watched other starving faces at other tables. We ordered 5 dishes. We were were expecting our Westlake Sizzling Soup to arrive quickly but it took a long time. After 20 minutes, our server finally brought us the soup, and Honey Walnut Prawns. The honey prawns, alone, was totally random because we wanted to eat the prawns with the mei mei noodles we also ordered. Usually soup comes first, then all the other dishes come together. Prawns were just there on our table to eat with our soup...... Our soup also arrived with no bowls, or spoons. We had to flag down someone, anyone to get us bowls/spoons. After we finally got them, it was placed on our table, and that was it. No one served it for us either. I guess I am used to other chinese retaurants serving the soup, but oh well. So we have our soup and our prawns. Another 20 minutes our mei mei noodles, black mushroom chicken and ginger crab arrives. The mei mei noodles were very good, hong kong style - thin and crisy! And it's combination style with chicken, bbq pork, and beef. The mushroom chicken was very tender and had lots of flavor. The crab was the best! Very tender and fresh! I am going to order the fried crab the next time, because the ginger crab was a little messy for me. It was good though but I needed tons of napkins (which we had to again, ask for). Will come again - maybe on a weekday, or order take out. They were having an off night, or one of the cooks, or maybe a server called in sick. The food, however, is really good.

This place is pretty good. Great food. Big portions. Awesome price. And the best part??? They deliver!!! My coworkers and I love to order from here and they are always prompt and smiling, no matter how hot it is outside. If you decide that you want to dine in, don't be shocked by the odd decorations inside, this place used to be a Hawaiian restaurant, and I'm guessing interior decorating wasn't a priority when they bought this place. Service is pretty good, considering the language barrier. Water is always refilled (which is important for me). The Mongolian chicken and salt & pepper crab is always a crowd pleaser and absolutely delicious! There's a TV in the dining area which will keep you entertained if you like watching sports and whatnot. This place is great for big families, there's a lazy Susan on the circular tables, which is good for family style eating. One last tip: - If you're getting your food delivered: Don't be cheap! TIP WELL!! This guy drove around town, looked for your house, and brought you food!

salt and pepper crab, 4 stars, nicely done, not too much batter. mixed veggies, 4 stars, again, almost cooked the way I like it. Mandarin chicken wings, 3.8 stars, pretty good but not damn good! Overall, this place isn't bad. I wouldn't say it compares to Oakland Chinatown restaurants or San Francisco Chinatown, but it's pretty close. It's nice to have 2 good Chinese restaurants in Antioch, Mei Mei and Asia kitchen.. Excellent food for the price.

We just moved into the neighborhood and after a day of moving things about the house, we were too tired to cook, so we called Mei Mei for a delivery. We ordered House fried rice, some chow mein, and shrimp dumplings & pork buns for appetizers. It was promptly delivered by a very affable gentleman. That's where the good stuff ends. The food just didn't have much in the way of flavor, the pork buns in particular were very dry and needed lots of liquid to get down. I ordered my house fried rice very spicy, as I always do, but it was barely tepid on the heat index. My wife's palate basically agreed with mine, and therefore we'll reluctantly be going elsewhere for our Chinese food. Sad...because they are located very close to us, and are reasonably priced. But the lack of quality in the food just can't be overlooked.

I have been a regular of Mei Mei since it opened. I usually order delivery but have eaten at the restaurant a couple of times. Food is usually good, but there are times when my food is just ok and too salty for my taste. I think it depends on whoever is cooking. The staff and usual man that delivers are all super friendly and courteous. Overall good place for chinese food...wallet friendly:):)

Best part about this place is that they deliver. The food is ok I had a lot better Chinese food especially for the price. The food is Panda Express level. Also the delivery driver forgot an item from my meal and said he will return shortly. I only live 3 mins away. i had to call twice in 40 mins to see if he would be returning. Each time they said he just left. 45 mins later he comes back with soda after my family was done with their meal. Wish I never gave that tip now. Save your money go to panda express.

No probblem finding parking here. The place is big and lots of seating room. Not too sure about the peking spare ribs and noodles. The staff is great but the food is OK. We had the fried calamari (a little under fried), peking spare ribs (I think that's what is it called, and the taste is so-so), the house chow mein and string beans with white rice. I think it lack a little taste. Maybe i am use to unhealthy chinese food. Not sure when I will go back but I know not anytime soon.

Just moved down the street from here and hubby wanted to give it a try. The 3 stars are for the customer service, which was pretty good, the food...not so much. If you want real Chinese food go to South North Dragon. The food here was very very disappointing. I'm Irish German and I think I could make it better at home. Will not be going back. Sesame chicken was tough and not crispy, Kung Pao chicken was not like any I've had from any other Chinese place. Pork fried rice was just not good and the hot and sour soup...I don't know where they got their recipe but Panda Express is more authentic.

This is not the best place, but it is nowhere near the worst either. We ordered delivery and there was a $2 charge, which was fine. We get the option of a free fried rice or chow mein because we ordered enough to qualify (I think, not exactly sure, but I wasn't asking questions either). We ordered: BBQ pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, lemon chicken, broccoli beef, and Szechuan beef. They were out of pork buns. The Szechuan beef had an odd taste, not my favorite, but others seemed to like it. The lemon chicken was delicious! It was by far my favorite of everything we ordered. BBQ pork fried rice is always a must for me. It was good. I have had better, but it was not bad at all. The broccoli beef was good as well. It tasted fresh and the meat was not hard or gummy. Will definitely be ordering from here again.

I ha high hopes for Mei Mei's because they had some pretty good ads out, full color, full menu and the reviews were pretty good. We got the s&s pork/prawns lunch special, orange chicken bowl with chow mein, and the Szechuan prawn rice bowl. Came with egg rolls as well. All was a little under $20. I wasn't dissatisfied with the price although South North Dragon has better prices. I was a bit disappointed with the food though. The orange chicken had a very strange pungent taste that was unpleasant. The chow mein and fried rice were average. The prawns, in both dishes, we're soggy and the Szechuan sauce was a bit gloopy. I was not highly impressed with my experience. They do deliver though...but then again, so does South North!

4 stars for DELIVERY service. 3 Stars for the food. They charge a $2.00 fee for delivery but the convenience of it helps a lot. I ordered the family dinner special for 4 which included a 2L Soda with my co-workers and it worked out pretty well. We had leftovers the next day. $40.00 including tip. The Dinner included: -Fried Rice -Sweet and Sour Pork -Fried Chicken Wings -Beef Broccoli -2L Soda -Fortune Cookies

I will say for Antioch, this is a pretty good Chinese place. But not the best. First time I've been here the fried rice was very dry. The second time it was much better. Their braised green beens are really good! So is there half duck entree. Been wanting to try their salt & pepper crab but both times they've been out. Don't blame them though seeing is it is not crab season yet. Settled for the salt & pepper lobster instead & it was pretty tastey. Not too much breading which is nice. All & all I will be coming back to Mei Mei if I don't want to travel to Pleasant Hill to go to my fave Chinese place.

Really good Chinese food. I was pleasantly surprised. Chinese food that doesn't need added soy sauce is great. The Mongolian chicken, house chow mien, and house fried rice were excellent. If you're used to San Francisco/Oakland Chinese food then this is the place.

We love this place!!!! The service is fantastic especially the young Asian girl that always waits are table. We love the fried rice as it is fluffy and flavorful and tastes very fresh. Also we always order the Mongolian Chicken which also tastes as if it is made with high quality ingredients. We will defiantly go back. So if you want great food this is the place for you.

Just another Chinese food place. My mother-in-law recommended this place to my wife, and so we ventured to the "better part" of Antioch to try it out. We arrived around lunch on a Sunday, and were seated immediately. The place was probably around 30% of capacity, so not very busy at all. The decor was nice and simple, typical of business suite converted to a restaurant. Also, the place is well kept and very clean. Being there at lunch, we were provided with both the main menu, and "lunch specials". I opted for the Combo Lunch Plate #1: Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Broccoli Beef, Fried Garlic Chicken. I know, nothing special here, but I can say that the chow mein wasn't greasy. The fried rice was your your typical run of the mill blend and flavor. The broccoli beef is nothing better than what you'd get out of a Trader Joe's pre-cooked frozen bag. And the fried garlic chicken was kind of a letdown (at least they served it to me straight from the fryer). The wife (after checking out some of the reviews here), got the salt and pepper crab. You can't typically get this stuff within a 30 minute radius, so it was worth trying out here. I'd give the crab a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was well prepared (and tasty), but I'm not convinced the crab was as fresh as it could have been. They also had a laughable dim sum portion of their menu, which had two items: pork and shrimp dumplings. I figured what the heck, might as well try the shrimp dumplings...what a letdown! The rice flour to shrimp ratio was atrocious, and the steam must have blasted the shrimp flavor out of existence. Overall, it's worth trying out...only if you've tried every other single Chinese food place in the area.

We have ordered from this restaurant once, and had a very pleasant experience. We called in for delivery and our order was at our door in less than half an hour. The lady that took our order over the phone was very nice and made sure we knew about their current promotions to help us save money on our order. The delivery service was great and very personable! I would order from them again in a heart beat! Only one star removed for flavor of the shrimp won ton soup, it definitely left much to be desired. Also, they could have definitely added more chicken to our broccoli chicken order. Other than that, they were flawless! Thank you Mei Mei!

I love the food here. I think it's probably one of the top Chinese restaurants in town! My favorite is the hot n sour soup, egg rolls and fried chicken wings. The food is not only delicious but also very affordable. And they deliver for just a couple of bucks more!

Best Chinese restaurant in the Antioch area. My kids love it too. Salt n pepper pawns with no shells, best I have ever had.

Worst fried rice ever...not even really fried. Had a 22.00 special which gave you a free item but wouldn't honor it because I bought their Honey walnut prawn special. I also heard them arguing about their special with 2 other phone orders. In just 5 minutes they alienated 3 customers over their special. Cheap ripoff place, mediocre food. The lemon chicken was fair but won't go back.

My first visit to Mei Mei. The food is good. They have live seafood swimming in their aquarium. Other seafood places claim "fresh", but will cook you their previously frozen stuff. I 'd ordered the salt and pepper crab, lightly battered ..then deep fried with jalepeno peppper. It was pretty good. Came back with a friend on her birthday. She had a birthday coupon for a lobster at $15. We ordered the lobster and 2 other items. One of the workers (or was it the owner) was complaining, "Damn, I'm loosing money, wtf is with these people coming in with all these birthday coupon today.??!!" Really? If you can't honor the coupon, why even mail it out? This is one cheapskate owner. Had I gone in by myself, I wouldn't understand what he was saying. But my friend was Chinese with a tan..lookin' like a Polynesian. Little does he know that she speaks their language. HAHA!! cheapskate =2 stars.

Gotta admit, our 3rd meal here (and probably last for a while at least) was a bit of a disappointment. Once again, we ordered the crispy fried chicken. It was good but didn't live up to the first experience. It seemed much more salty, which is usually what happens when it's less fresh, although I don't know if that was the reason for it this time. We also had a coupon for a $2 rice bowl. Anything under the basic menu sections (pork, chicken, beef, etc) over rice for only $2. Fabulous deal. Even at the regular price of $5, it's a pretty decent deal because the portions are big and they give you a couple of vegetable eggrolls. We opted for the mongolian spareribs. I can only say that I would have been slightly pissed if we had paid full price for it because the ribs were so heavily slathered in a very artificial, somewhat "off" tasting, sweet-n-sour-ish sauce, it was kind of nauseating. We should've tried the dry version. Still, can't complain because it was only $2, which is the usual price for a side of rice alone. So this place still gets 4 stars overall, but I think we have had our Mei Mei fix for a while. BTW: REAL fortune cookies!

no flavor! we tried this place once and it was pretty bad.... don't know why we gave it another shot a few months later, but this visit only confirmed that the food has no flavor, in fact we ended up throwing away the chow mein and the free fried rice that came with our order. i am not one to throw away food at all, everything gets eaten even if there are left overs for days, however, the rice was pretty much inedible, and the chow mein had zero flavor. i also ordered some tofu and eggplant with white rice which was okay. nothing to brag about. the food is simply bland. will not go back again.

If anyone goes there and they like crab and can afford it(use it with the 5.00 off coupon they send in the mail) you have to try the green onion and ginger crab-saucy and good! I think it would be better than the salt and pepper one which you can get at other places so not special as the saucy one. Also they have great fried calamari when hot and crisp with sweet sour sauce as dipping sauce. I often go for their wonton soup which is the best one in the area that I have tasted and I even mix a bit of the beef and broccoli dish with it so it is even richer. Great when I have a cold like now! Now like I said this is an authentic Chinese restaurant but there are people out here that may not be used to the authentic taste and may want an Americanized version of Chinese food which may taste better to them. Since I know both sides, for beef and broccoli for example you may like the Hidden Dragon restaurant's version of broccoli beef and also their sweet sour chicken(the one here is authentic but not crispy) may be more to the American tastebuds which is crispy and fried. So for those two often ordered American style dishes Hidden Dragon may taste better for you,but the rest you will like. Their Mongolian beef is hot and spicy and good. Kung Pao chicken is good too. Hot and Sour soup and sizzling rice soup is good too. So other than those two dishes better for American tastes at Hidden Dragon, the rest is good. And those 2.00 rice bowl dishes are big(have to have coupon for the 2.00 price)-at least for me. The staff was very friendly as I met a friend over there and started to speak with them when I was waiting for my take out and they brought me free hot sour soup too! That was a nice touch!

After multiple visits to this quiet restaurant, I have come away appreciating a couple of things. First, the Kung pow beef and sweet and sour pork are pretty good, and the Orange chicken is delicious. Second, this place may have the best service of any restaurant I have experienced anywhere. I never wait for refills on drinks but most importantly the waitress I have had most of my visits might possibly be the most polite human I have ever spoken to. Genuine kindness and courtesy going hand in hand with great service and food, well played Mei mei you win my favor. My one problem is I have yet to figure out how to verbally say your fine businesses name. Yes, I fail at life I know, but still worth eating there despite my failure.

Mei Mei has only been open a few months and they are still working out their service issues. The service can be inconsistent and slow. If you get a server who speaks little or no English, you may have a hard time. Also, the kitchen doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason as to which order the food should be served. Very often we'll get our appetizer after the entrees or our soup at the end of the meal. This can be quite annoying since it's happened so often. We've spoken to the manager about it and he just doesn't seem to get it. This is the reason for the 3 star rating. Other than that, we find the food to be good. Up until Mei Mei opened we went to Tao San Jin exclusively. Chinese is not my favorite food so it has to be GOOD for me to eat it. My husband on the other hand loves Chinese so I have made many concessions for him, trying every Chinese restaurant in town. I still like TSJ the best but Mei Mei is not bad and much closer to home. We've eaten there about 8 times now and have always had good, hot, freshly made food. UPDATE: 9/14/2012 We have figured out how to fix the"out of order" food service issue. We've learned to order appetizers or soup immediately after being seated and tell them we need more time to decide on the main courses. This way they put the appetizer order in right away and we get them first. Some people may not think this is a big deal but we really like our Chinese food served in a certain order. Appetizers, soup (if having), Main Courses with rice and/or noodles. I don't know why Mei Mei doesn't think this is an issue but we do. Every other Chinese restaurant we've ever been to makes it a point to serve in that order. Mei Mei does not. It is annoying that we have to worry about something that shouldn't even be an issue but we still like the food, even though it's not as good as it was in the beginning, so have just decided to overlook their stubborness and deal with it the best way we can. Hope this idea helps anyone else having the same problem. LAST UPDATE: 2/17/2013 This will be the last update to this review because basically, we won't be going back to Mei Mei. Over time, this restaurant has really gone downhill. It started off really good, became somewhat mediocre and now is terrible. Each meal over the last year has just gotten worse and worse. We just finished eating....or I should say, throwing out....some of the worse Chinese food we've ever had. We received a coupon in the paper advertising a Shrimp Teriyaki Bowl for a discounted price (approx. $1.50 off) so we decided to get one of those and a Chicken Teriyaki bowl (regular price) for dinner tonight. It specified "takeout only" so my husband stopped by on his way home. He was home within 5 min after the food was ready so I know the problem wasn't because the food sat around before we ate it. I don't know about anyone else, but when I order a Teriyaki bowl, I expect the meat or fish and veggies stir fried in a Teriyaki sauce and served over steamed rice. Usually, the meat, chicken or shrimp doesn't have a coating or breading and the shrimp are cleaned and deviened. The Teriyaki Shrimp I got was coated in a thick breading that was so soggy and gummy I couldn't eat it. I didn't like the fact that the shrimp was breaded anyway so I pulled the coating off, which wasn't easy because it was so gummy it stuck to the shrimp, and when I did I saw that the shrimp had not been deveined....gross! As for the veggies, there were 2 tiny strips of broccoli, 1 very thin slice of carrot and a couple shreds of cabbage. There was almost no Teriyaki sauce and what there was had no flavor. The whole thing was just terrible. My husband's Chicken Teriyaki was not much better. No veggies other than a tiny bit of cabbage, hardly any sauce and flavorless. The rice was so gummy and yet dry at the same time, it was hard to swallow. We would call and complain but the person who runs this place is not very customer friendly and when you try to explain your concerns about something, is not receptive. So, we just won't be going back....ever.

Good Chinese food! I love their variety of chow main and fried rice. Very quick delivery for home and work. Price is a little high but you get a lot of food. It'd right across the street from my work so when I am not feeling well I like to go get the hot and sour soup or won-ton soup. They even deliver it to me! Nice people to!

Was a bit apprehensive about an Asian restaurant in Antioch as we have encountered disappointments in the past. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and tasty the chow fun dish turned out. The won ton was equally good (lots of large fresh shrimp ) and there was nothing skimpy regarding the portions. The best thing for me was "no MSG' which is generously used by Asian restaurants to enhance the taste. The place is clean and the staff friendly. Highly recommended and we can't wait to have a great dinner there. MW

We tried this place because of all the rave reviews in Yelp but we were not impressed. The eggrolls and chow mein had a bitter after-taste, almost like they were using old oil, not sure if that was the reason. We ordered for delivery -- portions were ok-sized. We ordered Cashew chicken -- it was so-so but they did not use white meat, which I prefer. The combination fried rice had 1 shrimp in it......I'm not kidding you. Like someone intentionally counted it to make sure we only got 1, haha. The won ton soup was the best thing but portion size was not great. Won't be going back here. South North Dragon is still better in my opinion.

We received a coupon in the mail for $2 Rice bowls, so we wanted to check this new restaurant out. I was looking forward to dinner after reading the reviews on Yelp. We arrived around 5:30pm, and no one else was there. The place is fairly large inside and has a lot of booth seating, which we like. We decided to go ahead and get the Family dinner for 2 for $9.95 each, which included: Egg Rolls, Soup, Chow Mein, Fried Rice, and Sweet n Sour Pork. It was rather difficult to understand our waitress, since she didn't speak much English. We were able to substitute Lemon Chicken for the Sweet n Sour Pork. We were surprised that they let you pick what kind of Soup, Fried Rice and Chow Mein, and the fact that you get both rice and noodles. We went with the Won Ton Soup, which was kind of salty, and only had Won Tons, and Scallions, no other veggies. The Egg Rolls were yummy. The Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Chow Mein came out next and both tasted good. A few minutes later the Lemon Chicken arrived, which comes with the Lemon Sauce on the side, which I liked. The Chicken was in small chunks like you would normally see in Sweet N Sour Chicken. It was fried in a light batter, and was yummy. The only veggies in the Rice and Noodles were Onions, Peas and Carrots. It seemed like they used the same base for the Won Ton Soup and the Chow Mein. There wasn't much in the way of presentation of the dishes. The waitress didn't come by to check on us until we were almost done, but she was near by, if we wanted to get her attention. You do get quite a bit of food for the price. I will go back again to try their $2 Rice Bowls or something else for lunch. 9/15/11 - My neighbor and I decided to come here for lunch with $2 Rice Bowl coupons, and they still gave us Soup and Spring Rolls for FREE!! The Rice Bowls were quite large, and with the soup and spring rolls, we both took home leftovers.

So I went yesterday. I've been receiving the adds in the mail for a while and i decided to try it. I'm not a huge chineese food fan but i though " hey, why not" My bf and i arrived at about 7pm and we wanted take out. We looked at the menu and decided to order the dinner for tow $9.75 each. It had fried rice, beef and broc, and chow mein, we ordered a spicy chicken on the side. all together it came to $29 and some change. not totally expensive but not cheap. The restaurant was not so busy. Maybe a total of 4 families eating at the place. The restaurant looked clean and the tables were nice. I noticed that about 3 other ppl were waiting for take out too. I decided to go over to walgreens and shop around while the food was ready. about 25 min later i came back and still NOT ready. at 7:45pm it was still not ready! i noticed that the other ppl that had ordered take out were frustrated too. I even heard the cashier girl tell maybe the owner " the kitchen needs help, they are behind" we finally get our food, i ordered the veg rice, it was good, not greesy like the others, the broc beef was ok, sorta tasteless and the broc was hard, the chicken was really good, and the chow mein were good but greesy. I don't think i'll be going back and if i do, i'll make sure i call in advance for the food!

I love this place. The food is great and so is the price. You should definitely go there if you want great food for a great price. The waiters and waitresses are always polite and are happy to help you. Except yesterday. I was attended by the rudest, most stubborn lady I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. Not only did she not write down my order, but she absolutely refused to believe she got my order wrong. When I asked for no onions and the plate came with onions, she said that's what I asked for. Two men were sitting behind me, one told her his order was wrong. He asked for a Number 3 but he got a 4 instead. To which this lady replied "No, you ordered a number 4" leaving him having to explain that he cant eat pork so it's impossible for him to have ordered a 4 has mostly pork. They discussed back and forth over who was right. When common sense dictates that the guy who ordered the food is right over the lady who doesnt even write down orders. Later, we got attended by a young man (17 I'd guess) who was much nicer and actually attended to my needs. I made sure that he got the tip instead of that lady. I didn't wanna risk her swiping a tip she didnt deserve. So all in all, Mei Mei (now known as rice bowl) is a great place to go to. Just make sure the older asian lady (50ish) DOES NOT attend to you. You're in for a bad time if she does. Besides that, great service. 4.5/5 Also, the hot and sour super is to die for. Make sure you get some if you go there! 7/18/15 I still HATE that lady. SHE IS THE WORST. Good food though.

Horrible service and even worse food. I called in an order for delivery. It took over an hour. Then when he arrived he did not put in the right gate code that I gave him so I had to come down the stairs. Then when He parked the car I saw that he had my food sitting on the floor by his feet smh he was also on the phone yapping away forever in his native language. Still with my food sitting on the floor. Then when I finally get the food upstairs the chow mein was dry with NO flavor no juices at all. The rice was also dry lacking flavor. Cold fried prawns that tasted uncooked. Beef and broccoli was very mediocre ...broccoli was not steamed very well. Overall the food was terrible and not worth the wait or the money. I will never order here again and I wouldn't advise anyone else to neither. Zero stars for poor service and poor food. Ugh yuck.

UPDATE!!! I usually base my reviews on the food alone despite service, BUT this time, this was just bad!!! We have been ordering delivery from Mei Mei for a whole year now! 1 year! When we call they confirm our phone number & address. Plus the delivery guy, I think, is now familiar with our address. The girl that took our order on this day had to have been new or something. So here it is... We called in a delivery order around 4pm. The girls was nice on the phone. I specifically said "Order to go". She asked for my phone#, I gave it to her. But then she asks for my address. Weird, because usually they confirm my address with me NOT ask my address. I give her my order and tell her we're paying cash. End call... 1 hour passes... 1 1/2 hours passes... I call them because this is really weird. Even on their busiest nights we still get our order in like 30 minutes. A girl answers & I ask about my order... She puts me on hold, comes back & says, we have this order for pick up. WHAT?! I explain to her, "Why would I have it for pick up when the girl who took my order asked for my address." It sounds like she steps away from the phone to talk to someone. Comes back and she does apologize and tells me that the order was marked for "pick up". I explain again that it doesn't make sense for this to happen when I was asked for my address. So... I tell her, ok, can you please re-do my order for delivery. I request, "Please DO NOT send me the food that has been sitting there "waiting for pick-up" Please re-fire and cook a new order for me." She says ok, no problem. About 5 min. after getting off the phone... The doorbell rings! We don't live that far from Mei Mei. It's clear they DID NOT cook us a new order of food!!! I go out & explain to the driver that this cannot be new cooked food. I just got off the phone & asked that they DO NOT send out the food that was sitting there "waiting". Please cook us new food. He was confused of course, but I'm sure that's because the restaurant didn't tell him that some girl screwed up our order for delivery. I actually felt bad for him because we sent him away & said sorry no, we're NOT accepting that food! Mei Mei.... I understand that restaurants get busy, especially those that have delivery BUT if YOU mess up an order, you can at least do what the customer asks & cook a new batch of food!!! Would you eat ROOM TEMPERATURE FOOD that's been sitting around for almost an hour?!?! It will be awhile until we get delivery from Mei Mei again... It's unfortunate because they were so close, convenient & their food is good.

You're NOT welcome here twenty minutes before they close. As soon as you enter, the chef/cook signals or yells at waitress that they close at ten. So no more seating and ordering. They should change their business closing time at 9:30 PM.

Attention all Antioch !!! I should of never deviated from Tao San Jin. Tao San Jin cares about the customer . This restaurant The Rice Bowl formerly known as Mei Mei's . They have the same owner just a change of names which is also questionable . I never got a call back from the manager. I was told the manager would call me back last Saturday after telling me pick up (20-25) would be faster than delivery (90 minutes) on a Friday night. Had my husband go down 20 minutes after calling the pick up order and the food was not ready after an hour. Not the first time we've had bad business with this restaurant. They have forgotten parts of our order . They've told us wrong wait times for past deliveries. 90 minutes for delivery is unheard of. Customer satisfaction is not a priority with this restaurant . Please do not support this business .

They're a step above your local Chinese fast food. On occasion, they'll have traditional specials (black bean bitter melon and beef) and have a fresh lobster tank. Flavor wise, they're very good consider they don't use any flavor enhancers. Delivery is also fast. If you're order totals $22.00 or more, they'll throw in a free item (usually egg rolls or a fried rice). Not bad and very reasobly priced

The only thing good about this place is the service and the pricing for the food which is really cheap, BUT, the food was horrible, cold, taste boxed! Don't waste your time, you'll be sorry and disappointed, definitely will not return I don't know what all the hype is for. Honestly Panda Express is way way better than them

I've eaten here a few times and the food was really good except for the last couple of times and now it's called the rice bowl they still have their original menu and I normally get their individual meal its filling... The meal also comes with two egg rolls... Most of the product was fresh but a lot was wrong they brought out cold rice when we asked why that was the server said "Ooh well umm would you like me to put it in the microwave and warm it up for you" normally we just get fresh warm rice.... And this last time the servers came up to the table over four times asking all sorts of question which was nice but just let us enjoy our meal even though we were the only ones there... After all the food comes out they forget the egg rolls so I wait and they don't come after we were done I figured I would go up and pay and just ask them for the egg rolls and have them later as a snack... The front desk lady said "Ooh umm that's a typo you only get one or the other" I told her it said plus egg rolls... That's when the other server chimed in and said "you either get fried rice or chow mein or egg rolls" I didn't want to cause a fuss so I left but they need to change that typo or not forget my food next time if there is a next time...

Love this place. I've always been treated kindly by the staff. Food is always good. Large portions. Good prices. Not much to complain about. I have seen some reviews with negative things to say about the staffs attitude. I'm an upbeat person that makes sure I treat people nicely. I've been to this joint about 20+ times and not only have I never been treated poorly, I've never seen anyone treated poorly during any of my visits. I'm usually there for about 45min to an hour. I'm thinking that it may be a situation where people are getting what they're giving. Talk to people crazy / get talked to crazy. Just because you're spending money somewhere doesn't mean you can just say WTF you want and expect to be treated well. Keep it pushin. There is actually someone on here complaining about them using Styrofoam. Enough of the hippy crap. Take your tree hugging ass somewhere else then. Complain about that stuff back in Chicago and they'll find your ass in the alley somewhere between the empty non-recycled cardboard boxes. and the empty non-recycled tin cans. Grab an apple and STFU. To the broad that is talking about the food being bland.. you are wrong. nuff said. Hating ass miserable people are going to hate. Don't listen to that junk. Go check this place out. I'm telling you.. the food is good.. the people are good.. the place is clean.. I don't know any other reason for you not to try it for yourself and come to your own conclusion. It's most definitely worth your time.

Got food togo from here one time. Unfortunately the food was too salty I couldn't eat it. Neither could my mom. We ended up throwing all three dishes away. Ive never not inhaled chinese food and eaten leftovers the next day. With the first bite I got poisoned with salt and felt my legs constricting and heart hurting. The only reason I came here is because my favorite restaurant uses msg and in the window of this restaurant there's a sign that says no msg....well I'd rather eat msg and be able to eat what I paid for. It was the worst meal of my life and I've never said this about Chinese food. Please do your customers a favor and cut down waaaaay down on your use of salt. It was inedible. And you can die from too much salt. I'm sorry I have to say this about your food but for my takeout dishes it was waaaaaayyyyy too much salt. On the brighter side the girl that took my order was very nice :)

Ever since this place changed from Mei Mei to Rice Bowl I've had some issues. Their meat quality went downhill, their garlic chicken wings taste like fish, and their portions shrank even more. The orange chicken tastes funky now too. I'll order it when I'm craving their cheese puffs, and get some wor wonton soup and rice or something, but the rest is kinda crappy now :(

Food here is good customer service sucks came to pick up a order two people in the front had no idea what they were doing passing the phone back and fourth with one another I usually call my order in easy this time it was difficult on the phone for 10 min for a two simple combo plates not rocket science both clerks did not acknowledge me until I said " hi can I pay " after standing there for 10 minutes sadly I'd rather go downtown where I get better service worth the wait........... Please get better people with customer service skills in the front as well as understanding orders it would be convenient for your customers ...

I have not been inside Mei Mei as we always order delivery with them. The food comes quick, hot and it's very fresh. I love their wor wonton soup. It's packed full of bok choy, large shrimp, pork and all the delectable things that go with wor wonton soup. Their vegetable platter is fresh as can be and has a very mild delicious clear sauce that is placed over it. The orange chicken is wonderful. I would definitely recommend Mei Mei for fast, fresh, delicious Chinese food.

The food is always fresh. Whether you dine in or take out, you can count on the food to be hot, and cooked fresh. Plus they don't use MSG. Major bonus points there. My only complaint is they close at 8:30, even on weekends. They would benefit from the nite owls if they stayed open til 10.

The salt and pepper pork chops are very good. We often order the orange beef and the staff is friendly and courterious. The chow mien is really pretty tasty (pork). My wife enjoys the food and she is Chinese!

They really need to work on how they treat customers. If they treat their customers the way they treated me (cursing and overall rude) I could only imagine what they do to their food behind the scenes. I really base what I eat on how I am treated because the quality of service is reflective on the quality of food.

We live the next town over but travel here regularly to eat in and take out as well. We have tried every other place in the area and this is by far our favorite. Hong Kong style pan fried noodles, Beef Chow Fun, Beef and Brown coli, Honey Walnut Shrimp all are most delicious. For all shrimp dishes you get 20 pieces of shrimp that's huge for a Chinese place yet their price doesn't reflect the large portion you get. Beef chow fun has that great smokey flavor that we love and they let me order my broccoli well done cause I'm a white girl and don't like my veggies hard and crunchy. Recommend!

When Mei Mei first opened I ate here and it was pretty good, but after a while the food got sketchy and inconsistent, "prawns" could be micro shrimp or actually prawns, but the quality was going down steadily. Then they changed the name to "Rice Bowl" and i was getting frequent mailers from them saying the quality was better, healthier etc. I was still skeptical because the ads said same restaurant, just new way of cooking blah blah. One day i was in the area and i was craving some sizzling rice soup so I gave it a try despite my misgivings. I ordered sizzling rice seafood soup and Mongolian beef with a small steamed rice to go, came to $19+. really. But that was ok cuz I was ready for some good soup. Let me say one of the reasons I quit Mei Mei before was because the sizzling rice was tasting of rancid oil, so that was the first thing I checked. Well, that was the only thing Rice Bowl got right. it must have been "Change the oil month" or something. The soup tasted so spicy (I know, right?? WTF???), it looked like gray dish water with a LOT of what looked like dirt but I hope was black pepper in the bottom of the container and very salty with tiny tiny pieces of shrimp floating around, some cilantro maybe?, a few water chestnuts and that was about it, no chicken even which is the usual filler when they don't give you much seafood. I've never had such crappy soup, those little shrimp pieces probably would have totaled one whole reassembled shrimp-some things never change (see my previous review). This should have been on the menu as "sizzling rice tiny shrimpy bits soup" with a little chile pepper next to it indicating "hot"( or peppery as the case may be). On to the Mongolian beef. Now this is SUPPOSED to be spicy, right? I've never ever had it like this! The first thing I noticed was an overpowering odor of bell pepper, when I opened the container I saw why. This was pepper beef, with a few chile seeds (no chiles) tossed in for the "Mongolian" effect I guess. I tasted it, nothing Mongolian beef about it. Tasted like bell peppers and beef in gravy and if this was their Beef with peppers, WAY too much bell pepper, like at least a couple of them in this container(sale on bell peppers? need to use a bunch before they rot?). Overpowering bell pepper, it was the only thing I could taste. Take out the peppers and I was not left with much lunch. Maybe the cook couldn't read? Maybe they were trying out a new cook? Cook was sick and busboy was filling in?Whatever, keep looking! cuz this cook doesn't know anything about basic American Chinese restaurant fare apparently, I mean Mongolian Beef? thats a staple of any Chinese restaurant! And the peppery soup? This soup isn't supposed to be peppery or spicy, the broth isn't supposed to look like gray dish water. The skimpy seafood? Boo, but I've experienced that before, cutting corners? out of seafood? but still the basic broth, fillers, etc is expected and this place didn't even get that part right. Don't know what's going on in that kitchen but that was a total waste of $20. Never again. I was done with Mei Mei and now I'm done with Rice Bowl. Fooled me twice, shame on me. On the upside, no complaints about customer service!

Went here yesterday because I was craving some Chinese food. Read some of the Yelp reviews & decided to give it a try. I ordered the salt & pepper crab. It was actually really good. Hot & fresh tasting. It better had been fresh crab cause nobody likes frozen ! The crab was a little salty on certain part I ain't gone lie but aside from that it was good. I'd go again if I'm in the mood for crab. It was a huge portion & came up to $23 & some change. That's all I ordered because I wasn't spending no more than that for myself to eat!

The customer service was horrible. The young lady who answered the phone asked for my number three times and when I repeated she said "I just need you to say the number again I'm not hard of hearing." I was very shocked as she continued to curse at me and say nasty things. The food is mediocre at best. The service/food not worth the money

Ok, I tried this place again and thought I'd try some fish this time. I ordered the Szechwan prawns. Wow! This was even worse than the tofu dish I had before. This was absolutely disgusting. The batter was so thick and undercooked that the dish was nothing more than a pile of doughy mush surrounding the prawns. And the Szechwan sauce was bland. No spice at all. I only ate here again because family was eating there and forced myself to get something. Now this time Mei Mei's.... Never again for sure this time. Yuck!! I can still taste this vile food. Bleeeeahhh!!!!

Food wasn't all that high quality. We ordered dinner to go and were not impressed. Sweet/Sour pork was horrible tasting, pork-fried rice was okay.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
