I've been going here for 20+ years and I have to tell you that in my life, this has to be one of the best chinese food places ever. I know that this will sound like a bunch of Bull. But realize this I am a chef, at a place much different from here. Yet when I think of my childhood and foods that I ate and enjoyed the most this place comes to mind. Yes it is a fast food layout like panda express, and yes the interior does not have all the bells and whistles. But to call it anything remotely similiar panda express is blasphemy. The same people have been working here for 20+ years, where else can you find a restaurant like that, the recipes have been the same for years. The bbq pork is where its at, the fried rice and chow mein always perfect and not greasy. kung pao chicken and almond chicken on point too. Trust me get over the interior and focus on the food and how this place is a landmark in the anaheim/garden grove border and you will not be disappointed. Thank you Great China Kitchen for showing me as a chef that great food doesnt have to be expensive and sometimes simple things and honoring where you came from is the best way

Best cream cheese wontons ever!!!! Gotta give this place a shot. You can dine in or take out. Service was legit too.

The best Chinese food ever, I've been coming here since my mom was pregnant from me. Safe to say its they best.

Great China Kitchen is like a Panda Express but better, the food is more authentic and the prices are cheaper. Dishes can be made to order if asked. I love their beef and broccoli. The portions are HUGE and every Tuesday you buy one egg roll you get one free. Great for take-out and you could even share one take-out box with a friend there's that much food. :) Stars 3 1/2

I have been going here since I was five years old. I'm now thirty-two years old. The BBQ pork is delicious. I never had anything even close to it. Everyone is really nice. The prices are reasonable.

Stopped in as usual here for a bit of food, it's never good but it works for before shopping and a beer. Last time I came they wouldn't accept my credit card because the amount was too small. This time they served my beer in a dirty glass. As I currently need a charge on my phone they said they have no plugs....no plugs at all... Very rudely after giving them so much business they did not assist me! Anywhere...I mean anywhere even in this bad area people help with small things like this. But in this case they decided not to bee good business women or good people. Every time I come in same scene: sitting three older Asian ladies on the customers booths. Barley any food in the steamers and a fake cold smile. Although this once was a little bit better...they have lost all hope for any kind of roots ...manners or good food. Really lame guys. They did not accept the yelp ad either heads up yelpers!! Seriously skip it "for to go or for here."

I heard good things so I went today to try the food with my son. We ordered rice, chow mein, almond chicken, and beef w broccoli. The food was ok, it reminded me of panda express. The reason why I give it two stars is because there was a woman who seemed to be the boss (because she wasn't wearing a uniform and was the only one charging at the register) that was sneezing and blowing her nose with tissues. Yet continued to be around the food serving without washing her hands. Once I saw that I immediately stopped eating and packed up and left. On the way out my son pointed out a large roach trap (the square black ones) that was in a plant by the window. I almost vomited my food right then and there! I just hope we don't get sick.

Little hole in the wall, mom & pop place. Very casual atmosphere; a lot of regulars come back here from the surrounding neighborhood. If you want good and cheap Chinese food then go here. Fried fish filet w/ stir fried noodles 3.5 stars Was good a bit on small side & not greasy like other Chinese restaurants. =) Service: A (chinese ladies are friendly & nice) Atmosphere: C Food: B+ No sit in eating after 8:30 PM. Tip: Yelp check in 10% off your entire bill.

It's simply Amazing good food Best Chinese food ever sweet ladies that are always smiling and ready to serve. They must never take a vacation because it's the same 4 or 5 ladies that have been working there every day for over 20 plus years. I love it.

I love this place!!! I started coming her 4 years ago when I work at Disney and of was a little out of the way but the closest Chinese food restaurant. I've come different times of day and for is always fresh. Best bbq pork I've had I years . Don't like all the homeless around and how the workers just sit around, clean do something.

It's sad to give this place this low of a review especially when I use to come here years ago & my opinion was different then. Customer service & food is no where near where it use to be. I arrived there and it was decently busy yet out of all the people working, only one lady was helping the tables, taking orders, getting the food and drinks....While everyone else was standing around looking at you like you're dumb. Food is gross, not good at all & not worth the money in my opinion. There are better places to get chinese food..

  • Brooke H.

I ordered the Orange chicken and chow mein. The chow mein tasted like plastic and the Orange chicken did not taste like chicken or orange-y. It seemed as if the chicken could've been leftover from the day before. The service was okay and the prices are cheap but I don't think I'll be returning due to the poor quality of the food.

It DOESN'T get any better than this! I have been coming here for 8+ years and I have never been dissapointed or left unsatisfied! The food is delicious and oh, dont even get me started on the BBQ pork!! :P mmm.. my mouth just watered thinking about it. All the ladies there know me and automatically know what to serve me without asking since I always order the same meal. This is my place for chinese food hands down and as long as it stands, i will forever come here!

Thank you Christine N. for sharing this place with me! It was a Saturday night and I was in full fledged homebody mode so Chinese takeout was the perfect dinner option. As others have mentioned, be careful of the parking lot. A new supermarket opened next door so even at 8pm at night, the lot was practically full. Heck, one guy was on his cell phone and almost hit us as we were turning into a spot. I wasn't expecting much of a dining area but there was a family of 6 enjoying a meal together when I arrived. There is plenty of seating here but the decor and ambiance isn't exactly Great China Kitchen's (GCK) strong suit. The menus look dated, the tables a bit run down, and there was a cart that had dirty dishes on it in plain view. I even scoped out the place for a trash can but none could be found (after getting samples of the food, I had two toothpicks in hand). The people working the food area were eager, almost overly eager, to get us our food. I was able to try the following: - chow mein - honey chicken - orange chicken - string beans and chicken - champagne beef - cream cheese wontons I felt the chow mein was very hearty and was cooked just the way I like it. There weren't too many vegetables in it to detract from the great noodley flavor (adding noodley to my food vocab). The meaty sides were all good, I would probably get the orange chicken and the champagne beef again. The latter was unique, and had chunks of green bell peppers, onions and pineapples. All in all, the dishes tasted a bit better than I have had, but not too far off from what you can get elsewhere. I am a sucker for cream cheese wontons and this one didn't disappoint... I want to say it is mixed in with a little imitation crab and chives... 6 comes in an order, I probably could have all 6 to myself. The person that appeared to be the owner said we looked new (and she was right). She also gave us a little history of the restaurant, and it dates back to my birth year of 1985. For them to be around as long as that has to mean something right? I will be back!

I've been trying new items on their menu again! Cream cheese wontons (salivating as I type this -- it's that addicting!) yelp.com/user_local_phot… . Sesame chicken (not really a new item for me, but it's one of my favorites) yelp.com/user_local_phot… . The inert's of the burrito (can't recall the name of it right now, but it was very filling) yelp.com/user_local_phot… . Two comes in one order (It was good, but I'm not really a fan, but my friend enjoyed it) yelp.com/user_local_phot… . Also, just wanted to say, I'm so proud and honored to be a part of helping them achieve the "Yelp loves Us" sticker! They were so ecstatic to share the news with everyone that Saturday afternoon... and I just happen to pop in as the lady was putting it on the door! =)

We got food here because the Pho place next door was still doing renovations. I really enjoyed how much food they give you (they stack that box). I got the two item combo (half and half, kung pao chicken, and orange chicken). The lo mein was really good, probably one of the best lo mein's I've had at a fast food chinese place in a long time. The kung pao wasn't what I expected, but it was still good. I wish it had peanuts in it like most kung pao dishes. We also got the wonton soup which was stacked with a lot of flavor and wontons. If you live near this place, you can't go wrong with a 2 item combo for 6-7 bucks. Great deal for some Chinese fast food.

I have been coming here for over 8+ years! Before I can drive, my family would take us all here at night when they were too tired to cook. On those nights, I can remember hearing, "Great China Kitchen for dinner" and my eyes would just light up. I'm having nostalgia and salivating right now as I'm thinking about how flavorful and crunchy their honey chicken is, chow mein has just the right blend of seasonings, broccoli beef is tender and not too oily, teriyaki chicken bowl is amazing, etc. The prices are average, but their portions are huge! I'm reading reviews about how little they have received, but that doesn't make sense because why would I want excess food? I'd either gain 5lbs or throw it away a few hours later because chinese food usually doesn't taste as great when its fresh. I think the portions are equal to the amount I paid for, compared to Panda Express G.C.K. shoots them a mile away. If you're in the area and craving some authentic chinese food, stop by here and give it a try because you'll find yourself a regular in due time.

This place is awesome it may look like a cheapy fast food place but trust me go in and order the food is delicious tastes way better then a panda express has the authentic taste the beer is cheap also, my family of 6 at for $45

Went in last night to pick up take out because I was too tired to cook after work. Rude, rude, rude, is all I can say! I agree with the Yelper below. I can not understand what you're saying because I can't speak your language, but it's only obvious that you're talking shit. Don't make it so obvious. You weren't talking to your co-worker until I walked up and suddenly, you've got all this crap to say to her in Chinese while you're waiting on me. I get enough of this crap from my fellow Viets. I know when the crap talk is going down. This is possibly the rudest, most annoying thing you can do to a customer. What was so important that you couldn't WAIT until AFTER I left? This place is convenient because it's across the street from my house, but I'm NEVER coming here again. The food is average at best. So it's not like the food is so spectacularly good that I will endure shitty customer service just to eat here. This is possibly the worst customer service ever.

Let me just say ever since I set foot in here I haven't been to Panda Express ever since! The chow mein is so good and you can tell they use fresh vegetables. My boyfriend and I TO GO TO Chinese food place.

Not your average Chinese Fast Food. Awesome little spot close to my work, I try to make the effort to come here when I get a chance on my lunch times. You can almost say its a hole in the wall. The prices are pretty much the usual $5 to $6 combo plate. The quality is not the usual though. You can even see the difference on the food. For example, if you look at their tereyaki chicken, it looks crispy and mouth watering. The taste? good! They have other yummy dishes. Some of my favorite are Fried meat Wontons, Tereyaki chicken, and the beef chow fun. Pretty much everything they make here is good. I have brought friends and co workers here and they all agree its good, try it!

Service is great considering that this is "fast Chinese food" restaurant akin to a Panda Express. Server was extremely friendly and offered lollipops to our kids after dinner. The food hit the spot especially as we were pining for Chinese food. Prices are very reasonable as well.

Delicious, non-greasy Chinese food. Service was great. The fried rice and chow mein are really yummy. I had the orange chicken that was really good. My coworker had the beef with broccoli, Kung pao, and black bean chicken and has loved all of them. Super cheap, $5 for a 1 item combo. Definitely going again.

The orange chicken and honey chicken is second to none, and the chow mein isn't bad either. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

This has to be the place with the shitiest customer service ever.. The ladies are just behind the counter talking shit on their customers & hurry you up when its not even busy & on top of that the food wasn't even good.. Never coming to this sh*t hole again.. Save your money and go to a better place.. I recommend the Manhattan Pizza place in the same shopping center.. Or if what you want chinese food im sure you can go any other place & get better food & service..

Honey chicken-absolutely amazing! Orange chicken ran a very close second.... And yes, the chow mein IS to die for! Very friendly staff, and the 10% off for the yelp check in made my visit almost perfect! The eggroll was a bit disappointing though.. i didn't think it tasted right... my friend tried it and said the cabbage was still a bit raw. Besides that, it was delish! I will be back soon! And double honey chicken this time... YUM!!!!!

I used to be a really big fan of this place. However in the last couple of years they are total skimpers when it comes to their portions. They have gone as far as using smaller sized to go containers. Trust me, I have frequented this business for at least 10 years. But as the service when ordering to go is almost a battle. The rudest one is the lady with the freckles. We have recently discovered a new place to go to, Twin Panda Bowl on Harbor & Trask behind the Yoshinoya. This place is 100x's better. I am never going back to Great China Kitchen!!!

This place is really good. One of the best fast food Chinese places I've been to. A lot of items are made when you order them. Service is pretty good too. BBQ PORK very good. But like I have said before you get what you pay for. Its fast food and cheap so don't expect something AMAZING.

Went to this restaurant because it's close to my job and I was craving Chinese food. However, I was quickly disappointed when most of the food looked old and there weren't many options. Nevertheless, I opted for honey chicken and BBQ pork along with rice and chow mein. The rice was ok, but everything else was bland. I was really hungry so I just ate until I was full and threw out the rest. I will not be going back nor recommending this spot.

Wanted to find a good place that has BBQ pork fried rice. FOUND IT! And cream cheese filled won tons. It decently priced, and pretty good for cheaper Chinese food. I will definitely be going back. And its down the street. I might become a regular.

I've been looking for the perfect Chinese take-out for over 2 years. This one is okay, but not perfect. They gave me a lot of food, but then again, what Chinese take-out place doesn't? The Broccoli Beef was among the best I've ever had (Seriously amazing) The BBQ Pork was pretty good, but didn't blow my mind. I tried a few different types of chicken they had: Orange, Honey and Tangerine. They were all 'good,' but still close to mediocre. The fried rice and chow mien were 'meh,' and the eggrolls were huge, but only okay. Overall, I would say it's 'Good' and far from the worst I've ever had, but I'm not ready to settle on it as my go-to place.

I hate giving indie places like this hole in the mall Chinese fast food joint a bad review, but food is food and duty calls. We ordered four entrees: 1. Broccoli beef: Beef not flavorful. Not hot (barely warm). Broc had good crunch, though. 2. Spicy chicken. Someone, it seems, forgot the spice. I guess there was some there...barely. Like the broc beef, lukewarm at best. 3. BBQ pork. Looked good, but the story was the same as the other entrees...not hot and not much flavor. The meat was okay, though. This was the best of the lot. 4. Almond chicken. A watery flavorless sauce surrounded uninspired chicken. Again, not piping hot. Lukewarm food leaves me lukewarm. My wife said it best: This isn't as good as Panda. And, really, that's what an indie place must do--it has to be better than its megacorp competition. GCK is not. On the upside, the lovely woman who served us was very nice. She needs to get in the kitchen, though, and kick some ass.

Meh. I wanted to try a new chinese fast food place in garden grove. I didn't feel like going to hong kong express, so I tried this place out. Swing or a miss...it was a miss to me.They had about.. 6-7 food options...maybe it's just me, but I felt like thats a low amount of options. I got a two item plate : orange chicken and another chicken entree along with chow mein. The chow mein was different... bad different. I cant really explain it besides "it looks lighter than other places with chow mein" I wouldn't recommend it. The orange chicken and the other chicken entree was also meh. It filled my chinese food fix, but nothing to remember by. I won't be coming back.

Oh gosh I can't even begin on how good this place is. I'm 24 years old and my family AND my boyfriends family has been coming to this Chinese place for years!! The BBQ Pork is always the best. Also their Honey Chicken and their Tangerine chicken is to die for. Also one of my favorite things to get there is their Wor Wonton Soup. Now for those of you who do not know what that is, it's a veggie broth that has mushrooms, snow peas, and bok choy veggies. Along with big pieces of chicken, beef and shrimp. A huge bowl is about $5 and some change. It's light but at the same time it fills you up and it's served pipping hot. Best thing to have on a cold day!! Definitely worth your time.

On a random decision to try this place out during a bike ride, Great China Kitchen did not disappoint. It is not the typical greasy Chinese fast food place. The workers are cheerful ladies who make you feel at home. They have a pretty good selection of food and several combos for you to choose from in addition to being able to make your own combos. Their prices are pretty cheap, ranging from $5 to $8 combos depending on what you want. General portions are served so you'll leave the place full and satisfied.

This is THE place to go if you are craving Chinese Food and want to get more than your moneys worth. They will pack the food like no other. When I say pack, I mean they will shove the food until they could hardly close the box. My favorite is the BBQ Pork and Teriyaki Chicken. Mmm Mmm Mmmmm. Sooo delicious! Thank you Great China Kitchen for putting Panda Express to such shame.

I love good Chinese takeout, but this is not it. Tried the 2 item combo: teriyaki chicken, tangerine chicken, chow mein and fried rice... also an order of fried wontons (plain) Teriyaki chicken: meat was OK, sauce was a little musty tasting, and didn't have the classic teriyaki flavor. I know of better places for this dish. Tangerine chicken: came fresh out of the kitchen, but was not spicy unless you chomped a hot pepper. It was also soggy and a little rubbery, and I would not order it again. Fried wontons: were crispy like they should be, dipping sauces were good (sweet/sour and hot mustard) but the wontons tasted like they were fried in oil that has been in the fryer for weeks and weeks on end. After 10 or so hours, oil becomes carcinogenic and loaded with free radicals. Yuk. I ate 3 of the six them and then the ikky stale oil flavor took over and they were trash-bound. Chow mein looked fresh and appetizing, but noodles were undercooked and as a whole very bland. There were a few decent crunchy veggies in the chow mein, but it didn't save it. Fried rice was 100% generic/forgettable While I was selecting my items, and was considering the spicy chicken, I spied a nice straight black hair lurking in the sauce. If my very antsy husband in the car expecting me to come back with food, I would have skipped this place altogether just based on the hair in the food. The search for good Chinese take out goes on.

You like a lot of food? Come here and you will be shocked how much the scoop in your to go box. Oh me oh my I like it! Ladies here are friendly and they love to give a little extra. Wink and you might get an extra eggroll. Me likes.

I have been coming here since I was a kid. I love this place. Sure, it isn't the greatest, but it is still the best Chinese food I have had. I strongly recommend the orange chicken or the black pepper chicken. Those are my favorites and they accommodate each other well with a little sweet and spicy. I also think their chow mein is hands-down the best I have ever had (bold statement, I know. It's just my opinion.) The price is cheap and the ambiance is decent at best. They really fill up your box with a lot of food which I think is pretty cool. The soda here does taste a little bland and uncarbonated. They also charge for refills which is lame in my opinion.

Just stepped in here last night after not having been here in years. Still looks the same and they even upgraded the facilities a little bit inside; the dining area looks a little larger. This is not a bad place for pretty good and inexpensive Chinese food. They're pretty fast with take-out orders and they do accept credit/debit cards-- a major plus.

Been going to this place for 20+ years. Have never had a combo, I'm a big fan of ordering individual items from the menu and its always made fresh to order. I LOVE the Shrimp chow mein and shrimp fried rice. The bbq pork is the most tender and delicious I've ever tried. You have got to try the egg flower soup. The Owner and Staff is honestly amazing! They are so kind, call us by name and remember our entire order. I highly recommend Great China Kitchen.

Decided to try Great China Kitchen tonight after reading all the good reviews on Yelp. Once again my fellow Yelpers were right on the mark. The family really liked everything we ordered. The food had good flavors and the employees were both very friendly and helpful. My String Bean Chicken and Wor Won Ton soup was made fresh. All other items were already made and sitting under heat lamps. (But still tasted great). I did spend more than I would have liked to, but only because I ordered Pints and Quarts of food for the family. It is probably cheaper to go with 2 or 3 item entree meals. So I'll have to that next time. Below is the exact breakdown of what I ordered. My order consisted of: 1 Quart of Chow Mein $6.78 1 Quart of String Bean Chicken $9.98! 1 Pint of Orange Chicken $3.79 1 Pint of Fried Rice $3.39 4 BBQ Spare Ribs $10.31! 1 Large Wor Won Ton Soup $5.79 Total with Tax: $43.54 BBQ Ribs were really good, even my two year-old ate one down the bone. My wife said the Won Ton soup was the best she's ever had. I think we found a new favorite Chinese fast food place to return to.

My favorite is the tangerine chicken, orange chicken, sesame chicken and bbg pork. I don't recommend the sweet and sour pork. The chow mein is good also, its not greasy like most places. The staff is always very friendly. My bf has been going there since he was a kid and got me hooked!

GCK is my go to Chinese place. You can't go wrong with the honey chicken and BBq pork. They are always consistently good. I keep telling my self to try something new here but I can't help it. It's definitely one of Garden Grove's gems. I will always come back for more. In fact I come so often they just bring my food knowing I always get the same. Great job GCK!

Not the Best Chinese food in the World but it is honestly really good for what it is. I love the number 12 and after a night of drinking... you have to get the War Wonton Soup.

When visiting the Happiest Place on Earth (Disneyland) trying to decide what to eat is often a challenge. When you are in the theme parks it's burgers, hot dogs, fish & chips, nuggets - all deep fried. We've even ordered Chinese food to be delivered from hotel fliers. One time it took 1 1/2 hrs. This trip we Yelped and found Great China Kitchen 13 reviews avg 4 stars, we drove there and brought food back to the hotel. Verdict: 1) Location in a strip mall (other shops there Albertsons, Popeyes, and a few more restaurants) - 7 minutes from Disneyland 2) Prices reasonable 3) Portions HUGE 4) Food precooked - menu 2 items w/fried rice & chow mein for $5.89 5) BBQ pork & Broccoli Beef - highly recommended

I've gone to this place since I was a little kid and not much has changed! This mom and pop Chinese food establishment is friendly and is never stingy with the amount of food they give considering the price. - The food is great and unique to their own style and is nothing like the mainstream Chinese food you'll get at say, Panda Express. -Love the fried rice -Try the honey chicken ! Do it now and thank me for it later! -There's a little Asian lady that has worked there for about 15 years and she's never aged and remembers EVERYONE AND THEIR ORDERS. (It's kinda scary) This is a great place to grab something quick and filling to eat and take it with you or to sit down with someone. I usually order the B combo with fried rice, honey chicken and/or broccoli beef or BBQ pork. I have never been disappointed with this place.

I've never eaten AT the restaurant itself, but the their food is seriously delicious! It's a tradition amongst our friends to have it every 4th of July. The egg rolls are to die for, I can just eat those all day. And the fried rice is super yummy as well! It's like a yummier version of Panda Express =)

I grew up around the corner and Great China Kitchen (and still live around - on the other side - today) so their food is something I've had a number of times... I'll be honest - I'd give this place a 3.5 if I could but if you focus solely on the Honey Chicken and BBQ Pork, it's a 4 star easily. Tender, juicy, some pieces crunchy some soft, topped with sesame seeds...the orange chicken is where it's at. Same with the BBQ Pork. The well done end pieces are my favorite. The staff have always been nice ( and original - for as long as I can remember). It's got the vibe of take out and the option of sit-down (plus a tsing-tao if you're so inclined).

This place is a gem! Do not let the strip mall, hole in the wall look, or dated interior run you off. It is great cheap Chinese. The best in Garden Grove/Anaheim. Great food & great prices.

Rude Rude Rude!!!! I have been coming here for like 20 years. It's conveinant and the food is good when you can get the food you want but they are so rude. I have overlooked it for so long but I have had it. Just seems to be to typical in Asian restaurants that they can just be as rude and cheap as they want and it's ok because that's the way they are. Well I have had it. They are always out of food that I want and then they get mad when you won't just take what they have made big I would have wanted that I would have ordered that. An hour before they close and they are almost always out of everything so you can't get why you want an they they have an attitude. I have eaten there before and asked for a seperate plate and they charged me extra and it wasn't even a disposable plate it was a real late that they will wash. They Nickle and dime you like crazy. Typical. They are always talking shit in there language and that is so rude. You have been here long enough learn how to speak to your customers.

Customer service is awful and very rude. The food had no taste to it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Great China Kitchen...Is really my favorite place to get fast food Chinese food....Yeah its not panda express or anything, but really the food here is really good. I was actually introduced here by my mom, because she always got take out food here and was served to us for lunch at home. I love getting the two item combo, all chow mien, with orange chiken/or honey chicken, and broccoli beef! All I gotta say is bomb.com ! They give you more than enough good, to either put you into a satisfying feeling or a damn im stuffed feeling! The only reason why I gave this place a 4 star instead of 5.is well when me and the girlfriend went here, sometimes I get the craving of sweet and sour chicken, and well I got that ontop of my orange chicken, and really the sweet and sour chicken didn't taste as good as it usually does. I was actually a little disappointed. But that doesn't stop me from ever coming here, I shall always come here whenever I want my Chinese food fix! Feast well my fellow yelpers! - Ssp

3.5 stars I've came here a few times and have always thought their food was good. The chow mein and fried rice are pretty good I've had the BBQ pork, orange chicken, broccoli and beef, and spicy chicken. The food tasted fresh and was hot. I also tried on of their egg rolls which were good as is the hot mustard they serve with it. Decent prices too for chinese fast food.

This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant. My family has been coming here since I was little and now I bring my family! We love the honey chicken. I haven't tried anything here that I don't like! Great place!

I came here totally based on the Four Yelp Star count from 17 reviews. Only one Yelp review was from an Elite Yelp member. After reading the reviews and seeing those stats...we wanted to try it. The Great China Kitchen is in a strip mall that has a few businesses that are out of business. It can be considered not the cleanest and safest area...but you be the judge....I was alright with it. There portions are generous and the staff behind the counter was very nice. After choosing our food, they brought the food to us at our table. Everyone in our group chose different dishes. Besides the rice and noodles, the group said the beef and brocolli, bbq pork, orange chicken, sesame chicken, and sweet and sour pork was very tasty and good. A quick note is that I did not get sick later, so I assume there was no MSG in the food. The food looked very fresh even at one hour till closing. Don't be fooled with this place...the food is really inexpensive and surprising tasty....when in the area, I will probably be back when I need the quick Chinese food fix. It definitely is a great place for low cost Chinese take out. Four Yelp Stars! ;-p

I would give this place 3.5 if I could? Food was not bad. We had string bean chicken and orange chicken. I liked both. Each one was a bit spicy. We got the $1.99 fried shrimp and found out quickly why they were $1.99. They weren't very good. Tiny shrimp in a large thing of batter, and not very fresh tasting. The decor isn't super but the waitress was very kind even though we cheapskates just split a combo between the two of us. Customer service was definitely great imho. I ordered iced tea which was HUGE and came with an XL slice of lemon. I was also offered a free refill-- WHAT? being offered a free refill at an Asian restaurant? NICE. I probably won't be back because this is out of the way for me.

I went here based on the reviews and this place is fabulous. The food was delicious, affordable, and Super fresh.....Yummy, Yummy, Yum, Yum. I ordered the #14 which consisted of Champagne Beef & Honey Chicken, which also came with Rice or Chow Mein, and Fried shrimp all for the whopping price of $6.19, not to shabby. The service was fast, friendly, and fabulous. Definitely will frequent again the next time I have a hankering for Chinese.

Good is ok. About what you expect at a typical Chinese food place.

One of my favorites! I've been going here since I was a little kid. There is one waitress in particular that I love getting. She always knows my order (fried wontons, honey chicken, steamed rice, chow mein, Cherry Coke) and even asks about my family since she knows them, too. She likes to make small-talk about things. Even remember when my sister was getting married! Okay, on to the restaurant. The food is super yummy! Sure, it's all Americanized, but what do you expect? It's not greasy, which I LOVE. The BBQ pork is probably the best thing on the menu, although I have a lot to try still. Portions are gigantic for the price. I can never finish a two-item entree by myself. The food isn't always super fresh, but it's never tasted like it had been sitting for too long. Definitely the place to go to satisfy a Chinese craving. =) BTW- I think you can only use debit if the total is over $5

Food is delicious,. prices decent and portions huge. They have a wide selection of food available and offers fresh and fast service. I was a little disappointed today because I went to buy food and the credit card machine was having problems. I would have cash on you just in case. They do have an ATM but it charges a fee.

Really good bang for buck although I wasn't impressed with the quality of food. Sorta stale and not enough chicken in the orange chicken.

While the folks here have reviewed the food that comes in platters and combos, I'm just as much a fan of their individually prepared orders . . . A big fan of the Fried Noodles . . . and as a take-out order, they'll keep the sauce separate from the noodles so the food arrives, basically, "fresh". Practical and ideal, with big portions and extra fresh veggies, it's definitely more than one would expect from your typical fast food Chinese joint. Sometimes when I feel like going a bit up-market, Great China Kitchen is there to serve, too. Sometimes, if I'm tired of orange chicken and chow mein, but I still want to stay in, their Beef with Snow Peas (for under $6) often does the trick . . . Check out the entire menu the next time you swing by. As far as the restaurant itself . . . every time I come to this establishment, it's always busy. Always. And that's a good sign. And given the fact they've been in the same, at times very dilapidated strip mall for years (at least fifteen, if not twenty-plus -- talk about staying power), it'll continue to be as busy, showcasing its generous portions in its display of the best of Americanized Chinese food.

Good prices, hefty portions, really good cream cheese wontons, yummy champayne beef. Tangerine chicken has flavor, so-so fried rice and chow mein.

My son decided we should go for some Chinese, so we headed for Great China. We have been going here for over 15 years and the waitress knows what we all like. It's great to know you won't get an attitude for ordering the same thing time after time. We started off with the wor won ton soup, it's always very hot with plenty of fresh shrimp. Then comes the sweet sauce with crispy noodles, the noodles are so good you can add some sugar and have them for dessert. We actually never have any left to try them this way, it's an on going wish. Next comes the sweet and sour chicken, the chicken chow mein and the third dish varies. We always have plenty of meat and the entrees are freshly made. So far the entrees feed 2 adults and 2 kids. My mouth is watering just thinking of this place.

Been going to Great China Kitchen for about 8 years. Will continue to go back. I would give them 3.5 stars if possible. The location is typical strip mall dive restaurant, and in fact I almost never dine there but prefer take away. What keeps me going back is the food is basic, good Chinese, more authentic than the chains like Panda Express or Pick Up Stix. Also, there really aren't many edible Chinese places in this part of Anaheim / Garden Grove. And they give HUGE portions. One combo plate easily feeds two normal people. I especially like the BBQ pork, orange chicken, mu shu pork, and chow mein. The ladies working behind the counter are quick and efficient, and actually are friendly once they've seen you a few times. One lady has my "normal" order memorized, and they always wave and say hello when I walk in. (Ok, I only go there about 10-12 times per year, not there every day.)

This place was pretty highly rated, so I decided to check it out on the way home from Disney. It's in a pretty ghetto strip mall, but It seemed pretty promising since there was a bunch of people inside. At the counter the food looked pretty good. The cashier the girl asked 'for here or to go' and when I said 'for here' she made go me sit down to order, lest the staff get confused (she seriously said this). So we sat down. The service was less than stellar. The food was okay, but it certainly isn't anything I would go back for. The fried rice and the chow mein were kind of bland. The orange chicken, although it tasted okay was kind of mushy. The BBQ pork was really moist, but had a funky taste to it. If you're in a pinch it'll do, but I assure you there is better out there.

I went here based on my co-worker telling me that this place had great reviews and I must admit....the joint lived up to all the HYPE!!!! The food was excellent and extremely FRESH FRESH FRESH! I ordered the #14 which consisted of Honey Chicken, Fried Shrimp & Champagne Beef which comes with Rice or Chow Mein. The service was fast, the waitress was friendly, and the food was fabulous at a great price. Definitely a place I will visit again :)

This place is AWESOME! Their chinese food is always fresh and doesn't taste greasy. I found this jewel after many trips of doing runs as the office grunt to get Chinese Take-Out. Everyone is always friendly and the establishment is nice and clean. You MUST have the honey chicken because it's the best! I always get the honey chicken and the BBQ pork combo! You could either take it out, or if not they will actually serve you! I always choose to drive here for Chinese food since I know it's always right on, it's never gross. Oh yeah, and the plus is that they have yummy crushed ice in their soda! :)

I have been going to this Chinese joint for years. But I just though of yelping it because we went last night. We went to visit my parents (who live 5 minutes away) and they wanted us to pick up food. So we went here to save time. The food is always fresh. They are very generous with the portions and the staff is pretty nice. The place doesn't seem like its the cleanest, neatest, nicest, but its chinese take out. You get what you pay for. I am a fan of their fried rice, bbq pork, and teriyaki chicken. The fried rice is never greasy, which is hard to find at take out places. The bbq is moist and flavorful. And the teriyaki chicken is moist and tasty. They don't have too many vegetarian/ pescetarian options but we were able to get entrees to accommodate our party. They sweet and sour fish is a bit strange, but its good. The fish was fried and was a little dry, but thats nothing sweet and sour sauce can't fix. I also appreciate how they server the sauce separate, as to not make the fish soggy. Would I go back? Definitely.

if you are looking for some delicious, quick chinese that isn't a panda express, then this is the place to go. i have been going here since i was a kid, and although i no longer live in the area, i always try to eat here whenever i have the opportunity. i have even gone as far as driving about 30 miles out of the way, i miss it that much. they have both sit down and take out for whichever you need. they are pretty inexpensive, and the portions are huge. by the time i am stuffed, i usually have a panda express size meal leftover. they also almost always have coupons in the local coupon booklets, as well as on the back of the receipts of the albertsons a few doors down. i highly recommend their tangerine chicken. it is a little bit spicier/tangier version of an orange chicken, and it is delicious! just be careful of the peppers in it, they are whole and easy to pick out, but bite one by accident and you won't be a happy camper. if that does happen, just get one of their sodas, which i also love because they have crushed ice! the staff is really nice, and if you go enough, you don't even have to order, they will know what you want. ah, now i am really craving some chow mien and tangerine chicken... and if you eat here... hopefully you will too!

so much food.... seriously, when you've eatten all you can from you 2 entree $5 plate, there is still a full meal left. i appriciate the white rice. it's sticky, but not too much. moist, and clean. it's a good side dish to the various dishes they serve. i really enjoyed the honey chicken. not too much honey and sesame seeds made it for me. the orange chicken can use some work. it's a bit too sweet. still tasty though. the tangerine chicken is good too. it's almost orange chicken but has some spice. careful of those whole chili peppers in them! i have to agree that the ice is awesome. it's slushy ice. mmm. my fortune (from my actually tasty fortune cookie) was "stop searching forever, happiness is just next to you" which made me smile. my friends was "you like a challenge" haha.

Worst chinese food ever!!!! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I ordered beef chow fun. It was tasteless. My friend ordered chicken gravy rice. There was so much gravy, it looked like soup. It looked nasty. Then my other friend ordered something from the steam table. It looked like orange balls of dough with chicken. This is just a guess. When my friend cut it open, we played the game, "WTF is this." It was just a nasty gross food. There was only one order that looked edible, the deep fried noodle chicken.

I'm giving this restaurant one star and I'm being very generous about it. The Wor Wonton Soup I ordered was edible but filled with msg to the point where it was hard to drink it and there was hardly any toppings. Went with a group of friends and we pretty much paid over $60 and had to buy more food afterwards just because most of us couldn't eat what we got.

For quick service and inexpensive but delicious chinese food, this is an excellent place to visit. Crowd favorites are the sesame chicken and orange chicken. Crispy and sweet but not greasy. The chicken salad has a very unique taste and is a must-try! This restaurant has been here for ages and I remember from years ago. Very friendly staff and you wont break the bank as you enjoy quality food here. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
