I like tacos and burritos. El taco is one of about 12 Mexican spots on Euclid in between ball and la Palma. My previous post was on taco boy, which is a stoned stones throw away from el taco. El taco is different from most spots I guess it's like a New Mexico style or something? They're big on their green and red chiles with whatever meat you choose. Personally the green sauce is one of my favorites and the chile verde pork is great. It's my go to when in a hurry and the convenient drive thru makes it that much better. The prices are reasonable - sure you won't find 85cent tacos there but you also wouldn't be able to eat as many especially with the awesomely delicious flour tortillas the tacos are in. The service is hit or miss honestly I've had it both ways but that'll happen. They give you taco sauce with your food, like actual taco sauce in a packet that you'd get with a school lunch, but don't forget to ask for their homemade salsa as it is very fresh and tasty. All in all I'd recommend this place to try something different because there are so many 4 star Mexican spots in the area, you won't be disappointed.

Well I guess I have to scratch this place from my lunch list. Used to be pretty good but no more. Food quality has taken a nose dive and now they're even screwing with the customers. They asked me if my food was "to go". They don't have a dining room! When I got my I found out why they asked, they put in a jumble of sauce packages that had leaked sticking several together! No way to mistake that old dried mess. I won't be returning!!

This place used to be really good, what happened? I have not been here for a few years so I decided to try iy again. I had two tacos and a chunky beef burrito. It's not bad but not whst it used to be.

Been passing this place for a while finally stopped by. Ok so guacamole isn't homemade that's not cool. Neither is the salsa. Little bit over priced for the portion sizes.

Worst restaurant I have ever been I don't feel like writing more but if you just pass by your going to see is always empty...

This is a walk up/drive up taco stand. As simple as it gets. Excellent LA style mexican food.

I just love their green chili verde burrito. I'm so happy eating these things and it's my comfort food since I grew up eating this burrito. Just have it all meat and no beans or rice. It's so delicious!

Worst Mexican food I have ever had. And over paid food too literally I took one bite of the carnitas taco and carne asada burrito and I had to throw it away! The taco was not even cooked the corn tortillas were grabbed out of the bag and not even cooked. The beans from the burrito were from a can. In fact my dog didn't even want a bite I should of known not to go here! It's always lonely. But when your working 2 jobs you only have time for something quick but I give you my word I will never go there again. Your better off at Taco Bell lol! Don't open a Mexican Resturant if you don't care about the quality of the food!

I grew up in Anaheim and graduated from the high school down the street from this place in 1986. Even though I live in Glendora, my mom still lives in Anaheim and I try to get to this place whenever I am in the area. Over the past couple of years this place has really gone down hill. It is unfortunate I have to give them this kind of review. After reading many of the bad reviews on this place I see there is a couple of recurrent complaints. The ladies that work here are really rude. They are so disrespectful, rude and unfriendly to customers that even if the food was good I would not want to come back just on principal alone. I tried numerous times to give this place the benefit of the doubt because I have enjoyed their food in the distance past but after going there this last Monday I do not think I will be back. Their prices have gotten out of control while the quality of the food they prepare has declined drastically. I have gotten sick the last 3 times I have been here. I was talking to my mom about this place and she was telling me that they don't eat here anymore because almost every time they go through the drive through their order is wrong or missing something. To be honest, I really do not think the management of this place even pays attention to these sites that review their establishment. I do not see any responses to any of these complaints. You would think that the owner would be a bit concerned about the way his/her employees are treating customers. I think they are either behind the on the times and don't realize how a site like this can affect their business or the owners just don't care. There are a lot of complaints about how rude they are. This place is going to go out of business eventually. I remember a time whenever I would drive by this place the drive through would be packed. Now it is always dead when I drive by, even at the prime lunch hour. As for me, after my last experience I do not think I will be back.

I love El Taco. I live right next to it. I have no complaints about the food. I do have a huge problem with the stingy workers/ cooks. You ask for salsa or taco sauce and you get 1 salsa and 1 taco sauce. If you ask them for more they coma in and act like it's coming out of their salary. I can't be more annoyed of these employees when it comes to the sauces. Today I asked for 3 salsas and 5 tacos sauces. She handed me the bag, I got home and there were no sauces in my bag. I was livid. These employees need to get their act together and give their customers sauces they want.

I typically love this place....but the retired chola that was working the drive thru window was a total bitch. If she gave less attitude she might have gotten my order correct.

Food was delicious Drive through attendant was very young, and not so bright but he meant well After 15 minutes we finally got food situated (he forgot I was in the drive through so I was sitting for 10 minutes after he said he would be right back) then messed up order but he fixed it and food was awesome so there is redemption!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Avoid this place like the plague it is. Worst service ever. The fat chick who took our order gave the worst service I have ever had. She was rude, tried to over charge us and when we asked for salsa she scoffed and just stood their, and mumbed somthing in spanish to another employee and slammed the drive through door. So rude. I paid 4$ for a cheese quesadilla with guacamole and I got a skimpy burrito, barely sprinkled with cheese and doused in green sauce. Disgusting and unedible. My boyfriend got carnitas burrito but it had chunked chopped pork. It looked like throw up. And it made him sick. The two tacos we got tasted like they stole the shells from their cafateria job. I take that back cafeteria workers are nice and sanitary... Avoid this place. Its the worst. I wouldn't even consider this Mexican food, I'd call it dog food but my dog wouldnt even eat it.

One word... SUCKS!!! The food is gross and the portion is small. Not worth the time and money. Disgusting!! I'd rather get Taco Bell or del taco

A friend of mine treated me to a Burrito and a Taco here. I have eaten a lot of Mexican food in my day and I would say that the four stars are slightly too much. Not because they are lacking, but my comparison is something quite extraordinary and it set the bar so high that a 3 star from me, on here, would be like a four star from someone else. The items were very full of seemingly good ingredients but there was nothing ultra special about them. Nothing that made me fall to the ground because my legs gave out...no "OMG, this is so good, I need to sit down." My only complaint would be the lack of flavour. I don't like to always have to refer to the Salsa to save the flavour day, but I had to this time. Perhaps a nice Marinade would enhance the flavour enough to get four stars out of me. The meat in the taco was just like taco bell, nothing special, but just more of it. All in all, I would eat there again, but the flavour was not memorable but I didn't get sick! I don't know if that's a compliment, but it is kind of meant to be one. Like I said, I would go back.

Long time customer.. And I hate to give this such a harsh review but after today I may never be back. The food taste like el taco but no longer resembles what it used to. Sloppy quesadillas to match the sloppy and rude service we've got the last two visits. I hope who ever owns the business reads all posts and fires the heavy set woman with dark dyed hair. If this place goes out of business SHE will be the reason. While we waited we listened to her be rude to the person behind us in the drive thru and laughed because she kept saying "what?" like she did to us. I'll miss you el taco, it's been great, maybe when you hire quality people I'll be back. Thanks.

This walk up/ drive thru joint is exactly that nothing pretentious about it. But what they lack in fancy they make up in food flavor one of the better hole in the wall places in the area. What they do & for what the charge they do well. If your looking for a chili Verde burrito that's loaded with chunky pieces of tender & flavorful pork slow simmered in green chili & cheddar cheese with nothing else in the way served molten hot h requiring @ least a half a dozen napkins this is your go to place. The Quesadillas are great as is most everything they make the crispy Tacos are just not my style they do them picadillo beef & potato style an old school technique that is hard to find these days they ate good but not for me! I read some of the other reviews & have to say this is a taco stand that makes good food not a sit down restaurant get over yourselves! On the fence or like good affordable food that's not processed & chemical laden give them a shot you won't be disappointed.

From the beginning the experience was horrible. Couldn't understand the person taking our order in the drive thru. Then when we got up to the window it took the girl over minutes to acknowledge we where there waiting, all the while having to listen to their conversation about bullshit. we got a drink, fries and an asada quesidilla. One that bullshit was not a quesidilla, you don't roll a quesidilla like a damn burrito. There was NO cheese, and grease from the burnt dry meat got all over me. Their "quesidilla" is not worth the $4.49 they charge, more like a $1.50 and that's still to much. Worst experience ever, I wouldn't feed this crap to my dogs.

Ordered a breakfast burrito that clearly said $4.10 she cashier said it was 6$ and some change. I called her out on it and she said oh,,, sorry ... Ok cool no worries... The simply put 1 skimpy ass slice of bacon and scrambled an egg, wrapped it up in foil and handed it to me. Stomach hurts all day since the morning and it's 8:30 am Flavor?? NONE! Food quality poor.. Just over all a horrible experience . Quick buck robbery Never will I go back

Perhaps im just too americanized for this place, or too picky.... But im not a fan. First I tried the flautas... Not crispy at all And the guacamole was like cheap crap to get at the supermarket .... Then we tried a quesadilla with carnitas... barely any meat barely any cheese... Then the original Crisp taco....they use this like secret sauce in the meet reminds me of corned beef.... Not a fan at all.... Totally done.

I didn't have high expectations for this place, so I can't say I was disappointed with the food. As I pulled up, I took notice of the two, old white guys sitting at different tables outside. They were the only customers. As I placed my order, another old white guy pulled up on his bike and perused the menu. After ordering my two tacos, I glanced at the driver in the truck at the drive-thru window. Not surprised, another old white guy, at least with a white beard this time. I should mention that this neighborhood is almost entirely Hispanic, making the appearance of so many white people, and the complete lack of any other demographic, somewhat curious. After accepting my tacos to go, an older white woman walked up to the ordering window, and another older white woman pulled up in the parking lot. Being a well into middle aged white male myself, it seemed a strange assemblage, so many white people in a sea of non-white folks. I only mention this as it provided a predictor for my meal. Why would this place, with so many other, wonderful taco places a stone's throw away, attract such demographic specificity, at the exclusion of all others? Betty Crocker, Better Homes and Gardens... that's why. This place has been around since the fifties, and that explains it. They are making the same kind of tacos I remember my mom making as a kid in the sixties and seventies. They were quite familiar, not horrible, but unlike any other local places. I had a carnitas taco, and one with carne asada. They were almost identical in flavor and texture. Pretty dry, hard, and quite peppery, with pepper being the only noted seasoning. Both were topped with "chunky salsa" which translates to diced onion and tomato, and a heap of shredded iceburg lettuce. My mom and dad would love this place! The tacos could better be called roasted pork and pepper beef, and the mild salsa they serve with them on the side couldn't offend the most heat-phobic of eaters. If you want the tacos your white, apron-draped mother made for you as a child, the ones that likely were paired with a small margarine tub of green jello, then this is your place. Really. With two tacos the bill was just over five dollars.

I would give it 0 or nil stars for what I experienced yesterday,I don't even do reviews but I had to. I ordered a super carne asada burrito and what I got appalled me. it was nowhere near super, very skinny, no rice in it and the cheese wasn't even a sprinkle. Why charge extra and not include the full items?? if I want a flaccid burrito I would go to del taco.shame! be wary..

Although I have lived in the area for many years and have driven past this place hundreds of times, it wasn't until recently that I pulled in to give it a try. I like authentic Mexican food, which means I never eat at Taco Bell. I wasn't expecting much, but was hungry enough to give it a try. I ordered a chunky chicken burrito and my son ordered the delux version of the same (adds sour cream, guacamole, etc). They have a convenient drive through, with an easy to read menu board. The place is clean outside, which offers patio seating only. I took my first bite before we even got out if the parking lot. I was pleasantly surprised at the large chunks of stewed white meat chicken inside my burrito. Many places skimp on quality by using thigh meat. My burrito also had home made Mexican rice. It was cooked just right and tasted fresh. Again, some places use day old rice to cut expenses, but not here. There was also a red sauce (not canned) that was added to give a good balance to the meat and rice. I must have said "I can't believe how much chicken is in my burrito" a dozen times as we drove home. My son also thoroughly enjoyed his burrito, though he did lament getting less meat because of the other items added to the delux version. Passing buy again the other day with my wife in tow, we pulled in and ordered 3 chunky chicken burritos. Same generous portion of meat, but this time the rice was a little too salty. It was still good enough to finish every bite. On my next visit, I suppose I should get a little more adventurous, but that chunky chicken has my attention. It's ironic that a new "Mexican" place opened up a few blocks away that's all the rave (Chipolte). But their chicken is thigh meat, and that location at least, is super skimpy on quantity, especially the meats.

One of my supervisors chose this place for his birthday lunch probably due to his fond memories during childhood and we went with what the birthday guy wanted though some of my coworkers didn't seem too excited. I had seen their logo at other locations in OC but never venture out to one. But I am sorry; I can't say I'm a fan of this place. It wasn't very good. Like Taco Bell makes tastier food and they don't even really make real Mexican food. I ordered two tacos, when soft and one crispy. I imagined when I saw crispy tacos; I was thinking old school tacos, not Taco Bell/elementary school taco shells. I left unfulfilled. There are so many better and tastier options in OC, and you should go to those.

  • Bridget P.

Pretty solid breakfast burrito spot. Lately, I find myself waking up on people's couches in the OC, and hunting for breakfast burritos for the drive home. This one didn't show up in my Yelp search, but I happened to drive by and notice that it was 24 hours. And had a drive-through. That meant I could stay in my car and no one would notice my dress and makeup from the night before. The menu is huuuuuuge, with a great variety of burritos, tacos, breakfast, quesadillas, sides, and so much more. I kept it simple and ordered an egg, bacon, and cheese burrito with guacamole and sour cream added. I could have gone crazy with some of the options (salsa, chorizo, ham, more cheese, just about anything) but what I got was perfect. It was ready in minutes, and didn't even cross the $5 mark along with the Orange Bang I ordered. It was a pretty amazing burrito, the bacon was crispy, and the cheese was plentiful. So glad I stumbled upon this place! Would definitely go back.

One star is being generous. So the first time I went here my boyfriend ordered 2 carne asada tacos and he said they were decent but not the best he's had. He also ordered a chicken quesadilla and they gave him what looked like a chicken burrito I asked for a bit to try it and I can totally tell the chicken is CANNED it was actually really disgusting but Whatever he ate and said it was OK. I ordered a chili rellonos and it was HORRIBLE I don't think I've ever ate anything so disgusting. Any way, so for whatever reason we ended up going back and I ordered a carne asada quesadilla and apparently to them that means a rolled tortilla stuffed with meat and a little bit of cheese and I'm not entirely sure what type of meat that was because it wasn't carne Asada At least not what I'm used too. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. ITS SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY. AND YOUR STOMACH WILL THANK YOU

I wish yelp allowed for half stars because El Taco deserves a 3 1/2 more than a 4... It isn't the best hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, but it's solid. When you have so many great choices for Mexican food around, you tend to go to different restaurants for specific things. El Taco is my place for quesadillas, taquitos, and flautas. The quesadillas are more of a grilled cheese burrito -- unlike the gigantic ones you get at Alberto's or Pepe's, this one is rolled and easily held in one hand. What makes it, though, is the sauce. You have the choice of a salsa verde or rojo that's in the quesadilla. The red sauce has meat, but the green is my favorite. The taquitos are the best because they're so crispy. At a lot of places, the cheese and guac on top softens the shell. But not here. The flautas, however, don't stay crispy, but they're still delicious. The best part of both, though, is the guacamole! So good! No trip to El Taco is complete without cinnamon crisps! Simply flour chips tossed in cinnamon and sugar and only a dollar. Yummm

This place taste like shit, I've been to many Mexican restaurant and this place is the worse of all. Overpriced menu and their so call steaks taste like cans shit and it's not even grilled, they boiled it. Even Taco Bell taste 100x better this this shit hole place. I oredered carne assada burrito by the way.

Wow, talk about authentic and fast food at the same time, this place is it. If even our men in blue come in to order all the time, then you know the food is good. I remember back in the '70's, El Taco was as numerous as Del Taco. I only know of this one last El Taco place on Euclid street. Excellent burritos, rice, tacos, you name it, it's good. Sometimes the person taking the order is hard to understand, and when she tells you the total, it sounds like two or three dollars, but then ask for a receipt so you know how much to pay.

Probably drove by El Taco hundreds of times before I tried them several years ago. I thought it was a joke Del Taco or something. Plus it always looked empty and super 70s looking. Then a friend talked about it and said I'd like it. So I said to myself what the hell I love Mexican food why not give it a try. Wow wish I'd tried this place like 30 years ago because it is fantastic. Since 1958 they must be doing something right. yelp.com/biz_photos/el-t… FOOD: This ain't street taco, nor is it authentic Mexican fare or fancy sit down Mexican food joint but rather its leaning toward an comfort almost Southern Tex-Mex kind of deal with a good pork green chili stew that they use on many of the items. No frills blue collar food. Kind of like the stuff I grew up with. My favorite is the smothered chunky green chili burrito combo, The lava hot (heat not flavor) green chili and cheese poured all over a pork stuffed burrito with beans and rice. The pork green chili sauce is great. Very tasty. yelp.com/biz_photos/el-t… I like the asada super burrito too. Asada, guac, cheese, rice, tomatoes, beans, sour cream. just like mom used to make. yelp.com/biz_photos/el-t… The chili relleno burrito is also very good. eggy, cheesy goodness. yelp.com/biz_photos/el-t… Real handmade taquitos are bombdigity not the pre-made frozen crap that most budget taco joints use. Chili verde burrito is filled with tender pork marinated in a green chili. yelp.com/biz_photos/el-t… Also love the quesadillas, huge cheesy belly fillers. Made different, rolled like a burrito, different but good!. Even the ground beef tacos here are superior to all the fast food chains. The tacos are a cheezy filled great snack. yelp.com/biz_photos/el-t… So many choices and all I've had are good! Don't forget to ask for hot sauce. Don't be put off by the nonexistent indoor seating or the surrounding neighborhood. Pull in, forget the drive through and take some time to study the HUGE menu and all of the many choices you can pick from. This ain't Burger King so don't go trying to have it your way and reinvent the burrito. Youll just piss of the old ladies. Go with the flow man. Don't expect Gabbi's kitchen fancy shit. Order then enjoy your meal on the concrete tables outside as you'll be smiling as you chew. The sometimes sweet sometimes crabby older ladies making your food will make feel like you at your Santa Fe New Mexico grandmas house. I always leave with a full belly and a smile on my face. FYI this place has some history too with the likes of Del Taco, Der Wienerschnitzel, Naugles & Taco bell ... yelp.com/biz/taco-bell-a… No bathroom, No Wi-Fi, No bullshit! I'll be back!

The only good memory I have of my mother is this place. LOL! I think this was the first solid food I ate. This place started me on my love for Mexican food. This is my favorite location and would drive hundreds of miles to eat here. My entire life I have always ordered the same thing. 2 mild quesadillas and a side of rice. I can taste it right now. Yum! These are not your typical quesdailla, they are almost burrito like. Full of cheesy goodness, red sauce and just the slightest hint of shredded beef for flavor. The rice has green bell pepper chunks in it and big pieces of green bell pepper. Sounds crazy, but so good. I have brought many people to this special place and everything that has been ordered is out of this world amazing. Don't forget to get the taco sauce packets, they are like nothing you have ever tasted.

Second time for food poisoning, this time both me and my husband were hit, same item as last time: ground beef, one in a burrito, and also in a ground beef taco. I think they must keep the ground beef on the steam table all day, throw Saran wrap over it at night, put it in the fridge, plop it into the steam table the next day, then when it's low add new meat to the old meat, etc. thus cross-contaminating the new meat. No other item has made us sick and both times it was at the end of the day. There are new people working there, and if they do not follow proper food procedures, they will be poisoning the public. I've been coming to El Taco for over 25 years, and both food poisonings have been within the past year. Very disappointing, there will not be a next time, too bad because my husband likes their food as long as he doesn't have to taste it on the flip side. A call to the Health Dept on Monday is in order.

The ghettoness of this place just spices up the authenticity of its food. DON'T BE AN AMERICAN PANSY who's too afraid of food poisoning or something. THIS IS LEGIT MEXICAN FOOD. THE REAL DEAL. You get so much for your money. 1/4 of a combo would probably make a petite girl go full the whole day. I recommend the wet burrito or enchilada. Yummmm! It's good comfort food that just makes you feel relaxed the whole day. I do recommend not taking drive-through, though. It's not updated in tech stuff so the speakers and mics aren't up to date. You have to also take into account there aren't many employees bustin there butts to serve a train of people, so yes, you will have to wait in your car for more than 10 minutes. Oh and this is the absolute best place to eat out if you have nighttime munchies. I can't explain how great this place is even though it definitely doesn't look like fine china. Give it a try with some friends so you guys can split. It's worth it.

REASONS TO CHOOSE EL TACO FOR LUNCH OR DINNER: *The idea of food poisoning sounds like a fun, eventful evening to you *You've only eaten dirt and chunks of tree bark your entire life, and el taco seems like it could be a nice step up from what your generally used to (without getting too crazy, of course) You THRIVE off adventure and DANGEROUS situations. *if you lost a bet *if you lost your dignity *if you LOVE to puke, puking's your favorite!! *If you enjoy getting demeaned and/or insulted by others (employees of el taco to be exact) *If you looooove germs, and all germ related things. OR..... *If you are on the worst, and I mean the absolute WORST blind date of your life, and you just want him/her to leave you alone.....take them to el taco, and act like the food .is the best you've ever tasted. They will come to the conclusion that you have problems and need help.....Trust me, it's also the easiest way to scare off a psycho stalker. BASICALLY, If there's someone you don't like, or hate, and want to see them feel miserable, buy them el taco for lunch, when they say they want something yummy. You will have very effectively destroyed their appetite and they will no longer ask you for favors. seriously, it's foolproof......... MY FINAL THOUGHTS: el taco is the direct descendant of a disease ridden monster cockroach and MANY of the pictures you might find on google images when you try to search "most disgusting pictures of all time" And that's all i gotta say about that.

We stopped by here because it looked like a clean establishment. there were couple people eating outside so we thought we would give it a try. we ordered burrito and nachos. i don't know how they can claim "super" burrito and "super" nacho. i don't know what part of this burrito and nacho is super. definitely not the size or the quality. burrito and nachos were regular size and nothing special about them. guacamole sauce on the nacho was near brown and watery. chips were stale and cheese was not melted. oh, the meat tasted really old and rubbery. it was quite gross. the burrito was soggy and yucky. oh, and get this! our bill came out to like $14!!!! like John N. i would rather go to taco bell and have a feast with $14.

  • Geoff R.

It's better than your typical fast food joint...but that isn't saying much! The service could be better. They'll give you salsa with your order...one incredibly tiny, half-full cup of salsa for like every 4 or 5 items ordered. If you actually want to have enough for your meal you'll have to ask for extra...and then they STILL won't give you enough so you'll have to ask again! Also, there's a good chance they'll get your order wrong. In spite of all this you'll probably still eat here because your other fast food options in this area are FAR worse.

Definitely not a place for a vegetarian... All the salsa they use has meat in it!!! And on top of that service sucks!!! When I went there for the first, an the last time! I didn't know that getting bean and cheese burrito with green sauce means I am ordering meat in it... After eating a little when I found meat I went to the server and explained that I don't eat meat and the lady said that all sauses comes with meat, btw there is no sign that indicates that! And then instead of saying sorry the lady confronts me by saying why did u order this if u didn't want meat?, and that next time don't order this way if u don't want it! I just think that it is very unprofessional for them to talk to a customer this way.....

I recommend getting either a Chile Relleno burrito or a Chunky Pork burrito (spicy and juicy chile verde). I like their taquitos, but as another reviewer commented on here, they're not much different from the ones you can get at the frozen food section. Having said that some people love them. Their guacamole is better than the one at El Pollo Loco but not as authentic as the hand-made one at Rubios or El Torito. I've only tried the food I mentioned above. I took a couple of people there and they ordered chicken tacos and they hated them. I will have to knock them down one star for price. Drinks are very expensive here -- higher than in most places. Expect to pay about $13/person. $13 per person seems quite a bit for the type of establishment they have with only uncomfortable outdoor seating where you have to deal with noise, flies, and wind blowing your napkins away. I will have to knock them down another star because this location doesn't have a public restroom. They told me they closed it a decade ago and that they don't need to have one because it's an outdoor seating only location. They're forgetting that it's not so much about the requirement to have a public bathroom or not -- it's about providing your customers a good customer experience. Incidentally, there are other restaurants in the area with the same type of outdoor seating arrangement -- and they do have a public restroom -- this includes their location in Orange. I just hate to pay to eat at one restaurant and then have to go to another restaurant just to use their restroom. There's something wrong with that.

If you want an awesome burrito, head to El Taco. I have been getting food from this location for over 28 years. Their food is out of this world good, and they are always very kind and polite. The Chili Relleno burritos are fantastic! I have never had bad service here, and I tend to go almost once a week when in OC.

SUPPORT YOUR EL TACO! First off, this is another restaurant I grew up with. I was happy it didn't suffer the same fate as the much beloved Pup n' Taco. Okay, apples and oranges but nostalgia all the same. This place is the Anaheim ghetto that actually produces some great eating(see Little Caboose, Albertos, Los Alazanes to name a few). El Taco is in a decently shifty neighborhood on Euclid just south of Orange Ave. There is a crack-house near by but they are pretty harmless. They have exactly 4 round tables. 3 are positioned out facing Euclid St. and one is hidden. That's the best table for deflecting bullets. I'm joking, it's not that bad. On to the food. El Taco has great straight up Chili Colorado style burritos, the ground beef burrito with cheese is legend. Their tostados are very plain, beans, cheese, the awesome shredded type lettuce and one lone tomato but you can add anything your heart desires to them(sour cream, onions, guacamole etc.) They have a drive -thru and take credit cards! El Taco has been around before I was born. It's very solid Mexican food with a slight American table feel to it. ASK FOR "HOME SAUCE" otherwise you'll get Smart & Final Heinz 57 Taco sauce, which is pretty flippin' brilliant anyways.

Five stars for price and an incredible Chile Relleno Burrito. I'd go here way more often but I have probably 6 or 7 closer places to choose from. Don't get it twisted, I'd drive just to have a bite of that hot mess if I was in the mood.

So I"ve been going to El Taco since I was a kid. I used to go to the one in Santa Ana back in the 70's but that was later torn down and I've been going to the Anaheim location ever since then. Every year was a tradition with my kids to go Black Friday shopping and then to El Taco afterwards. Needless to say this year we went again and I ordered my enchilada plate to go since I was exhausted and preferred to eat at home. I get home and realized they forgot to include my enchilada platter which I was quite dissapointed since I wanted to eat El Taco with the rest of my family. So I decided to call them and advise they had forgotten my item and to hopefully just go the next day since I would be passing by the area again. Well as soon as I started explaining the forgotten item, the person by the name of Nayda jumped down my thoat and became defensive insisting she remembers giving me my enchiladas. I was quite suprised on how rude and defensive she became when I was not at all attacking her or rude myself. I remained calm and I told her I beleive she was not the person who gave me my item. She may have collected my money at the drive thru but the cook (who I remember had a lisp) came to the window and gave me my order. She kept insisting "no, no I remember giving you your enchildas" in a very condenscending way. I told her that I did not appreciate her insinuating I was a liar and then I asked to speak with her manager. Unfortunately she was the manager, but obviously not a good one. She finally gave up and told me to come in and she would give me another order. I said sure but no thanks....I'm sure she'll probably spit or do something else to my dish. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever encountered, and unfortunatly at one of my childhood favorite spots.....shame on you Nayda!!

This place is just GREAT! I had been craving AUTHENTIC mexican food for a while, so as we were going to Disneyland we bumped into this little place, when I say little i mean it. If it werent for yelp I probably wouldnt have stopped here, not to be mean but it looks ghetto, and its not in the best part of anaheim. But this place is a Diamond in the rough. So we decided to get "drive thru" since we were on our way. They have a LARGE LARGE variety of delicious food. I got the "wet burrito" Best one ive had. Albertons Mexican american food does not compare. My hubby got the Torta which was also very delicious. My son got a taco de carne asada...dont get those little tacos confuesed.. these were big tacos, none of that measly little tortilla full of cilantro and onion. These were big full of juicy meat and spicy salsa...which btw, it awesome, you need to ask for it on the side cuz if not they'll forget. The ladies inside are older but they give you the feel as if you're at your grandmas house and all the tia's are cooking. This food is soo worth it, the portions and the price. I loved it. Ratings: Outside 2 stars ** Inside: No Inside- just 4 tables outside 2** Drive thru: 4 **** Food: 5***** Price: 4**** Service5*****

Got the Pork Burrito with the Chili Verde (very spicy!) sauce. The whole meal came in a container that also had rice and beans in it. It was really messy but I have no problem with that. As you're eating though everything starts to taste the same no matter where you fork the food from. Burrito was a bit salty and the rice and beans help balance it out. Chili Verde sauce was medium spice by my standards. This place was neither exceptional nor horrible.

Growing up in Southern Arizona in the 70's these restaurants were everywhere. Once Taco Bell and Del Taco started taking over they soon faded into obscurity. So imagine my surprise when I moved to Fullerton and found this one. It had been decades since I had this food and was naturally curious. The restaurant met all of my expectations, which is a combination of good and bad. Food was cheap with large portions and actually tastes more like Mexican food than what the other main chains do. The restaurant chain itself alas still has that run down 'ghetto' feel and is more suited to drive through ordering. Only seats are outside seating; but I always drive through ordered anyway, so this isn't an issue for me. They do take credit cards as well, so definitely a plus. All in all, not a bad experience, but one I would take as an occasional guilty pleasure.

I've been going to El Taco since 1964. My family has three generations of El Taco fans. It's not as good as it one was, but it's still the best Mexican fast food around. My favorite is the chunky pork (greeen chile) burriito, but the beef burritos, the quesadillas, and tacos are all excellent. The combinations are great, too. If you're eating there, don't expect a bathroom. They do have a fast drive thru, however. Other than that, it's outstanding:the food is cheap, delicious, and fast. The El Tacos in Downey, Orange, and San Pedro are excellent as well.

I fricken love this place. Te Amo Much El Taco!!! It's amazing how something so simple as ground beef tacos can be far superior to any other place. It's like the perfect combination of meat and cheese! I never get lettuce! Sin Lechuga por favor! I also through in a red quesadilla. The blend of sauce in cheese, wrapped up like a snuggly little baby... yum! This is not your typical tortilla and cheese... it's so MELTILCIOUS!!! God I'm craving one now. I prefer this location over the Orange branch. I think that's it in OC now. The one in Costa Mesa converted to Taco Jr. It pretty much has the same product. The best one in my mind, is the one in Downey. It's off the freeway at Paramount, about a mile west. Paramount and Florence. The manage to make a mean egg and cheese burrito. There's some extra greasy-gooiness in there!! Yum!!

This place has the best Red Chili Quesadillas in the OC. It's also one of the few places I've ever seen that sells Cube Fries. French Fries in cube form are somehow even more delicious. El Taco as has amazing Super Nachos(chips, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, beans, cheese, and carnitas. Best place ever.

This place is hit and miss... some things are fantastic others lack flavor completely. Prices are decent, they aren't the cheapest but its not too expensive either. If your in the area its not a bad place to stop by, its just not worth a special trip out. Bottom line there are much better hole in the wall Mexican places out there.

This is a review on service more than it was on the quality of the food. When I was a kid I lived near an El Taco in Long Beach, California. I wasn't fond of their food back then because we had a Taco Bell even closer and I was more of a Taco Bell kid at the time. As an adult, I thought my tastebuds may be a little more mature so I decided to pull into El Taco in Anaheim on my way to work on October 25, 2009. I went to the drive through. Drive Thru woman: Can I take your order? Me: Hang on a moment, I'm still looking at your menu. I was ready in about 20 seconds. Me: Hello, I'm ready now. *Silence* Me: Hello? *Still Silence* 2 minutes later... Drive Thru woman: You ready? Me: Yes, I'll have the number 330 combo please. Drive Thru woman: How many tacos you want? Me thinking...*ooh, I can order more tacos. Sweet.* Me: Cool, I'll get an extra taco with my combo and make my drink a coke. Drive Thru woman: *Unintelligible accent apparently reading back my order, and I have no clue what she just said* Me: Um...what's my total? *Silence* I drive forward to the window. Me: "I think you didn't hear my whole order. I said I wanted an extra taco with my combo and to make my drink a coke, and I also wanted to know what the total was before I pulled up to the window. Drive Through Woman: You didn't order a combo. You ordered a taco. No drink with taco because it's not a combo. Me: Like I said, I don't think you heard my order. I said I wanted a 330 combo and an extra taco with a coke. Instead of beans or rice, I want fries. Drive Through Woman (with an annoyed look on her face): Okay, what size coke? Me: Small please. Drive Through woman takes my money and hands me over my food which felt really light. I looked in my bag and saw only one taco, but was too annoyed to say anything and was in a rush to get to work. So, I got to work, ate my whopping one taco which was an average tex-mex tasting taco, fries and soda. The shredded beef tacos del carbon at Del Taco is way tastier and tastes more Mexican than the El Taco with ground beef, lettuce and cheese in a hard corn shell...it's like a Taco Bell Taco without the flavor in the ground beef. The best part of the meal was the fries and coke. *disappointed*

El Taco is this hole-in-the-wall Mexican fast-food joint in Anaheim, CA on Euclid. It's Americanized Mexican food, but definitely a lot more "authentic" than Taco Bell. Good thing is they now take debit, credit, and cash. You can order up front or go through the drive-thru. I've gotten the special and nachos before. The special I got includes: 1 cheese quesadilla (plain, with green sauce, or with red sauce), 1 side of beans (or salad), and 1 medium soda for $4.77. The cheese quesadilla actually came wrapped like a burrito, very un-quesadilla-like. However, with the green sauce, it was very good. Normal quesadillas sometimes are a bit dry, but the green sauce made it moist and flavorful. The beans were a great side for my quesadilla and nachos. The regular nachos with cheese and guacamole cost $4.69. The nachos are covered with a thin layer of melted, shredded cheese. However, they can be more generous with the guac. It was decent enough. However, I would like it if they rationed the cheese/guac to chips proportions equally. Overall, El Taco is a decent taco joint. It's possible to spend around $5 for a meal (i.e. if you get 3 tacos). However, I ended up spending around $10 for a feast - quesadilla, soda, beans, and nachos. Up to you!

This review based on customer service and the drive thru mannerisims and the food!! mostly.. Lol..this is what happens.. Long time customer. Live one block away. Here twice a week! you pull up.. Static and silence.. you will hear the total of two sentences.. can i help you?.. and ... Anything else? they never repeat what you ordered. You have no idea if they got the order due to static.... Long time employees are rude one day flirtacious the next.. One thing for sure ..drive thru customer service is THE WORST anywhere.. Cant get any worse than this.. Which obviously means they hear you .. They just HATE their job and hate the customer too.. You get to the window .. Have no idea what the cost is.. No matter who is working.. They all SUCK! but it is cheap druken grub !!! DO NOT order ground beef anything!!!!!!!!!!! you have the guac is GROSS! Fake runny snot!! Do NOT order taquitos.. Frozen Costco nastiness.. whats good?? Carnitas anything! because its drowned in salt... Chile reanno or how ever u spell.. Gross soggy frozenness! Drive thru is totally broken A LOT.!! for years.. WHY NOT FIX IT? Whats funny is they dont put up a sign ever.. So when its broke. You sit there for a while before realizing.. food is the basic hole in the wall fast food mexican.. Its not authentic and the idiots that say it is havent had authentic! ive seen the workers roll eyes and make fun of the customer while waiting in drive thru ... the employees .they are all so overweight and its a small space to share.. they barely fit in the space to work.. oh and my BF was a regular ground beef burrito eater until he too got the food poisoning twice to many times costing a day off work both times.. The food is like the slop we used to feed pigs back on the farm!! like I said..drunken grub!!

I have passed by this place hundreds of times for the past 11 years. I finally decided to try it today because it's outdoor eating area and retro construction intrigued me. I always avoided coming here because it NEVER appeared busy, and I only saw white people there, no Mexicans. So, I figured it was "white" Mexican food. Well, I went there today for the first time. I was right. It is TOTALLY white food. Shredded cheddar cheese. Shredded lettuce. No chopped onions. No chopped cilantro. I was bummed out. Taco Bell is more authentic than El Taco. I was in the mood for real Mexican food. I will give it another chance and try other menu items, but at least I now know that if I'm in the mood for real Mexican food, I'll go somewhere else. But if I'm in the mood for Naugles or Pup-n-Taco, I will come back here.

i have been coming to El Taco for roughly 32 years (downey location(s) (since i was able to eat solid food) [El Taco may have been among the first solid food(s) i ever ate] the Cili relleno is my favourite but the burrito looking quesadillas are GREAT they have 3 options for those red, green, or combo (both) the tacos are great also. come here for the chili rellenos i hear a lot of people say good things about the chunky beef burrito (chunks of beef simmered in red sauce) i have not had anything besides the chili/red relleno, quesadilla(s) and tacos as i dont usually deviate from my usual stuff from joints like El Taco...

You can get some fast, fresh, and most importantly very tasty mexican food here (oh, and cheap)......one of my favorite fast food mexican joints around....much better than the likes of Anda and Triunfo, imo...don't underestimate it just because of the orange paint and cheesy sign You can get a piping hot platter of chile verde, which has a nice spicy kick to it with rice beans n a large tortilla for 6 bucks, you can do a burrito mojado style (wet) if you prefer

I've passed by this place millions of times every time I go visit my grandma and it wasn't until today, I finally got to try this place out. I thought I had read reviews of this place before but I must have been hallucinating! I tried the Chicken Soft-shelled Taco and the Cheese Quesadilla with the special green sauce and they were pretty good! I was looking for some cheap, genuine, yummy Mexican restaurants in the OC and I think I have finally found a place to go! I heard that the carne asada taco and nachos are really good, so I will be trying these next time. There's no place to eat inside but there are a couple benches outside that you can sit on and enjoy your Mexican food. They also have a drive-thru for the lazy ones.

I'm the type of person who goes to the hole in the wall mexican joints all the time. I'll never come back to this place. We ordered a carne asada burrito and their taquitos. The burrito was super dry and the lazy lady at the drive thru didn't even remember to give me salsa. It's a given that you need some kind of salsa when you're eating a burrito. Wasn't impressed with their guacamole either and their taquitos taste like the ones you microwave yourself from the grocery store. Will not be returning.

This review is solely based on the Chile Relleno burrito. It was love at first bite. Fresh tortillas, lard-free beans, melty cheese, Fluffy eggs, Juicy fresh Chilis. This is a big ball of comfort rolled up in a tortilla. If you're feeling daring get the super burrito they lube it up with guac and sourcream.

Beef tacquitos my favorite. Haven't had better anywhere, not even in a sit down restaurant. The staff are very nice and will even adjust items, such as putting green sauce on my cheese enchiladas, even though they don't say so on the menu. I've been eating this fast food since my teens and still say its my favorite fast food mexican stop!

I've been going to El Taco for over 30 years and its an Anaheim icon. The star of the show is the Red Quesadilla. They're famous for their Red Sauce and when added to the basic quesadilla it tranforms it into a meal. They roll their Quesadillas so they look like a big burrito. They also have amazing Beef Taquitos with Guacamole and Chicken Flautas with Sour Cream. Every time I pass by my car automatically turns into their parking lot. I wish they were open 24 hours. Thanks El Taco for the great meals!

It's fast food, not gourmet, no indoor seating, be prepared to be attacked by sparrows while you eat at their outdoor tables. Comfortable? No way, it's kind of a dive, but even a dive can have a certain charm. I grew up coming here so my love extends to two particular items, their red quesadilla and chili relleno burrito with red sauce! Actually, I had them for lunch today. They're filling enough where my hubby and I split them and we're pretty stuffed afterwards. Most of their employees have been there for quite a few years, slightly limited English ability, so don't expect to converse about the latest headlines, unless of course you speak Spanish. The crew works very hard, they're friendly, not overly social, but that's not why you come here. They're regular tacos are pretty much just run of the mill, but their chunky beef burritos with red sauce are terrific. They simmer their beef in the sauce pretty much all day so the meat is normally quite tender. I think you'll like it. For me, El Taco is comfort food. Kinda fattening, but warms the heart. They do have a drive-thru which is helpful when you're in a hurry. Lunches are their busiest time, but their service is pretty fast.

I don't know if this is authentic Mexican food, but it's pretty tastey nonetheless. I have gotten breakfast here too which is Americanized (at least what I ordered was). I have gotten the green quesadilla, chicken and rice burrito and my hubby has gotten the enchiladas and bean burrito. Make sure to order some "homie sauce" if you want some yummy tasting salsa (instead of the normal taco sauce).... good sheeot! =)

Wow, I can't believe this place is still in business after all these years. So, many good memories for me. I was talking to my Adult kids tonight about this place called EL TACO and how we would go after school and order the hamburger taco to this day i have never tasted anything like it. So, I was wondering if they were still around and here they are and nice to read so many good reviews. So, next time were in Orange County we will make a point to stop by. I can't wait and I remember going to this place in 1970. Talk about some history. They were great then wonder why they never franchised.

my husband and I were starving for dinner. we couldn't decide what to eat and decided to try this place since we drive by it a lot. first off I ordered a chicken burrito with everything on it and green sauce. my husband ordered carne asada super nachos. it came to $22 dollars for nachos a burrito 2 drinks and a small fry...what the??? we get home which is a few lights down. food still hot. husband opens his super nachos ...small portion than mos places. they were hot but soggy and they forgot to put CARNE ASADA on the CARNE ASADA NACHOS. the fries were like deep fried frozen ones and not fresh at all. there was chicken fat in my chicken burrito. deff wont be back. dont know how they are still in buisness.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
